Speaker 1 (00:00):
But right now we're excited to recap this Texans win
last night with our Sports Talk seven to ninety. Insider
also does some work with KPRC two. He is Aaron
Wilson and Aaron, you know, just coming out of this
game last night, we'll start defensively. I mean, I think
we knew that this was going to have to be
an all around elite effort from that group, and I

(00:21):
think we can probably say top to bottom we got
exactly that.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
They rose to the occasion. And you think about the
defensive flex that we witnessed, and this is a real greatness.
So we're talking about the top ranked defense. They've been
the top ranked defense for a long time, and they
showed why. Eight sacks, three turnovers, and this is against
a great quarterback, reigning NFL VP Josh Allen, and they

(00:46):
made him look so ordinary and just suffocating, relentless pressure
led by Will Anderson Junior and Neil Hunter, but a
lot of guys got into the act. It was a
group effort from the defense, and no one was better
at then Calen Bullock with a couple of interceptions and
forcing a fumble. So yeah, just kudos to the defense

(01:08):
and Dmicaul Ryans and the architects of that defense is
in collaboration with Matt Burke. Doesn't really get a lot
of credit, but that's because we'll overshadow by Demico. But
rightfully so, I look at the defense as a whole,
the strategy, the talent, and I don't see a hole
in this defense. I think that I've covered some some

(01:30):
great defenses in the past, like including the Baltimore Ravens
with Ray Lewis. They may not have a Ray Lewis
type of guy, but collectively, this is a really strong defense,
and you know, statistically they're starting to rival teams like
the Legion of Boom Seahawks Defense and others. It's really
been a historically great run for this defense, and they've

(01:53):
put years, putting a lot of resources and time and
money into investment and they're really starting to reap the
rewards and it's paying a lot of dividends for this defense.
That's why they're in the thick of the playoff hunt.
It's because of the defense. The offense. You know, special
teams not really doing their part holding up there into
the bargain at all times, but this defense is special.

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Yeah, I was gonna say, Aaron, I know you've been
here a decade now, so you've seen a lot of
different iterations of this Texans defense. I mean, obviously the
teams with JJ Watt and Jonathan Joseph, I mean, those
are some really, really good defenses. But this may be
the best iteration we have seen, and hands down looks
like the best one in the NFL. No, Denver's got
a great defense too, but the way they played last night,

(02:41):
and then sometimes a certain team just has your number.
I mean they they dominated Josh Allen last year and
they did it again this year, and it's the guy's
MVP of the league. Is that the case here that
they just there's certain guys that just are able to
scheme up and they have Josh Allen's number.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Right, And it's not just them, it's all of the
renditions of the Robert Salad defense that was taught to
Demico Ryans that he adopted and brought with him from
the forty nine ers to Houston. But it's whenever Josh
sees that defense, it's like it's kryptonite. It's really glaring.

(03:19):
The numbers and what you've seen from the performances of
Josh Allen. You know, Superman's really human. He's he's a
great quarterback. But for them to do that, I mean
last week against the Buccaneers, so I think are a
good football team. He's had six touchdowns, three runs, three
touchdown passes, and so it's not like it's this fluky thing.

(03:43):
I mean he did him last year. He was worse
nine for thirty fo one hundred and thirty one yards.
But this time, I mean he was absolutely suffocated. They're
surrounding this guy. I mean, where's he gonna run? And
I thought he's a little stubborn. At some point he
should just get rid of the football. That's not his style,
because it's worked so well for him. The ad living

(04:04):
the improvisational skills of Josh Allen. But to their credit,
the Texans had a very disciplined, organized rush and not
guys just su freelancing and playing hero ball. And I
thought Tomorrow last year said something very wise this week
about the reason why we're the number one defense because
we don't care about being the number one defense. We

(04:26):
care about just doing it right and playing together. It's
not necessarily all about stats. Although yes, you've got ten
sacks apiece for Anderson Hunter and you know, let's just
say it, they're the top book in pass rushing tandem
in the NFL. But it's about more than stars. It
is you know, they talk about swarm all those things,
and maybe it sounds like a cliche, but it's legit. I mean,

(04:48):
there's a passion to get to the football. There's good
pursued angles. They're not perfect. I mean they missed some tackles,
the hook and ladder play. They almost you know, screwed
up the game on that one. But they're resilient and
there's definitely a real resolve and toughness to the defense.
And this was the game of Kaylen Bullock's life. What
a game by Klan.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Yeah for sure, as he was factoring in on all
three turnovers last night by the Bills.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Again.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Aaron Wilson are seven ninety insider for the Texans also
with KPRC two joining us here on the seven ninety
Morning Show. Just a simple question, where was Nico Collins
last night? Why was he not used?

Speaker 2 (05:27):
More great question. I mean there's so many head scratching things.
If they had lost this game, you know, I people
would be saying about Nick Calean, about the special teams,
but especially Nick Cayley and the Conservatism, and I don't
think they did anything that they had. He had to be,
you know, taken out of the game plan. I mean,
there was a twenty four yard pass him, there was

(05:48):
a nineteen yard pass toim. Just keep doing that, do
more of it. Why would his targets go from fifteen
to single digits makes no sense, A real head scratcher,
and it could have cost them the game. And you
know there were toms where I was like, well, why
is it? Would he marks game more runs? And why
are these players so basic? What are they doing? And

(06:11):
just yeah, Kaylee's as you can. You know, you just
probably have heard and seen. There's been a lot of
criticism of the game plan from last night. And I
know you've got a backup quarterback and you think Buffalo
is this or that, but they're thirty first against the run,
and you could have ran anymore. I thought they should
have ran it thirty forty times. If you don't feel

(06:33):
like Davis is going to get into a groove. Davis
have one good quarter. The second quarter. First quarter pretty
ice cold, and there were drops and there were some
overthrows and it really didn't seem like it was anything
with the Bills. It was just him maybe, you know,
feeling some stress. I don't know. I mean, I know
he seems like very stoic, but he didn't start the
game very well. But to his credit, he's now three

(06:56):
and zero. I mean, that's the bottom line. Is the
bottom line. They got the win, But yeah, I think
there's some things to look at if they're going to
continue to win. Maybe I look in the mirror and
they got to get better. I like the offensive line improvement.
I love this five. I think it's the best that
they've had out there, and jurors sacks and more pressures.
But to protect that well from run block that well,

(07:19):
you know, some of this is Davis and some of
this is Kayley, but I think you got to look
a lot at Kailey and why wouldn't she throw ton
Eco more? I mean, Nico is your best playmaker. And
he said that just days before this game, so he
knows that he recognized that. He says it, but then
the game plan didn't reflect it.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
Well, Aaron, you know what we've gotten already this morning,
and so I'm gonna I'm gonna bring it up. We've
gotten some calls from some people out there who say, well,
look at this offense last couple of weeks, Davis Mills
three and oh you know earlier in the year they
were struggling to score points with UH with CJ. Stroud.
So there are some people out there Aaron who were

(07:57):
saying stick with the hot hand, ride with Dayavis Mills,
But tell us why they're all stupid and the franchise
quarterback should get his job back when he's healthy.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Yeah, I think that they're mistaken to think that. I
think Davis kind of showed you last night why you
should go back to c J. Stroud. There were some
throws that he missed, some plays that were there to
be had and he didn't make them. And as good
as he is, and he's one of the best backups
in football, it's why to get him a seven million

(08:28):
dollar extension. C J. Stroud is a special quarterback when
he has time, and he's shown that before and he
can show it again. And there's been some good games
this year. I'll be it against you know, some depleted
teams like the forty nine ers in the Ravens, but
he still showed he could throw the football. The hot
streak he got on against the Titans in that fourth quarter.

(08:50):
There're been enough moments and moments over the years, and
you know, the past three to feel like CJ. Stroud.
He's still guy, and he was dressed the second overall
for reasons. He was a heismand Trophy finalist All America
House State and he just plays the game. It's a
little bit different because as than Davis Mills. It's just

(09:15):
I understand that Davis won these games and he was
a good caretaker of the offense. He managed it so well,
and he made a few plays too, he kind of
stepped out of his comfort zone, like scrambling for the
touchdown against the Jaguars. I still feel like Stroud is
definitely the superior quarterback and there's zero controversial least in
the building there turning the football right back over to TJ.

(09:40):
Stroud and he's QB one again. I had a chance
to say, hire the CJ last night and talked to
him a little bit, and he's in good spirits and
ready to get going. And Davis himself said TJ is
the quarterback.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
A couple more mans. Aaron Wilson again our Sports Talk
seven ninety Texans Insider find him on Twitter at Aaron
Wilson Underscore NFL Will and Anderson Jr. I mean we
talked about a little bit earlier to Aaron where the
price continues to go up for him when it comes
time to extension if he's putting together performances like this.
Are we talking Miles Garrett's Micah Parsons you know Hutchinson

(10:20):
type of money for Will Anderson Jr.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
Yes, yes, and yes he's going to be a guy
that makes over forty million a year. I see that
for him. He one of those guys that's paid almost
like a quarterback, and he's everything that Texans want their
team to embody. And it's not just the effort, but
it's the skill. It's the love of the game, the passion,

(10:44):
the way he represents them on and off the field.
I mean, what doesn't he do? They're one stack. The
next time stats had this, he ran a total of
fifty one yards. And when I told him about this
the first he was like trying to figure out what
he's what's you're talking about here? I just how you
had a run all over the field to finish that play.

(11:05):
Then it resonated and he's like yeah, yeah, that was
pretty good. You think about all those kind of special
plays that he will make, or when he had three
sacks against the Patriots last year. There's just so many
moments it's hard to really rank them. And it's starting
to become like a JJ Watt kind of thing that
this guy and the JJ is a big fan and

(11:26):
talked about last down on social media how special will
and Anderson Jr. Is? And I agree, this is a
pick that they nailed. And if they don't make that
trade to get Anderson, do they win games like this one?
Because I think he's what makes them specially, He's what
sets them apart, and he's really the heartbeat of the
entire team, not just the defense. But there's really no

(11:47):
better player on the team to me than Anderson all around.
You can talk about Stingley, you can talk about Nko,
you can talk about lots of guys, but I think
Anderson is a cut above.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
True. Two guys to highlight here on the way out
Aaron Kaylen Bullock, I mean, we can't say enough about him,
the kid who had I mean I remember reading his
his draft profile when he was coming out and obviously
played on some bad USC defenses, but I remember reading
the draft profile that said, yeah, he could be somewhat
of a ball hawk, and he had nine interceptions in
his career in college. He's got nine interceptions already and

(12:23):
not even two full seasons in the NFL. And it's
crazy what this kid is doing. And then the other
one I want to highlight who deserves a lot of
credit for how he played last night as Jalen Reid,
a guy who was a sixth round pick out of
Penn State this year for them, got his first significant
action last night, and boy did he deliver.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
Killing jually instinctive and you know, he played on a
bad defense USC, which I think, you know, really showed
some issues in tackling and things like that. He's worked
hard on that, but he's always been someone that could cover.
And he's a converted corner. See see some corner skills
from Bullock and his range. He runs a long way

(13:02):
to get to the football sometimes, so he's fast and
in Jalen Reed always felt like this is a tough guy.
I like the way he competed at camp and he
was a hard hitter for the Penn State d Indy Lions,
and so you're seeing that he's almost like a little
linebacker out there. He's over twenty pounds. He throws his
body around and he had a dozen tackles and I

(13:22):
was talking with him after the game and he took
it in stride. It was just like a lot of confidence.
And he's been waiting for his chance, and they were thinking, well,
they're gonna go with Jalen Mills, more Miles Bryant, and
they were getting him ready. I think they didn't like
what they'd seen. They didn't see enough from those guys,
enough plays made, including last week, and turned out the

(13:43):
playmaker was on the bench the whole time. And he's
a real talent and they got him laid in the draft.
But remember at camp he was picking off Davis Mills.
He had a lot of pick sixes as with the
second team defense. And I think they may have found
their starter to Bullock and that they can go forward
with him and establish him with another good young starter.

(14:07):
And you know, I'll give Nick Concaro credit. So his
defensive draft picks have been really really good. Offensive line, yeah,
he's had a lot of problems there and he's been
something like a few other players, but on defense he's been,
you know, pretty good. He hasn't missed a bunch on defense,
and this is one of the later round success stories.
So if you find a good chief starter and red,

(14:31):
I think that's really something. But yeah, he's uh, he's speisty,
he's tough, and he's instinctive. He's got to make sure
he has miss tackles like he did on that one
long one and you know that was that was a
bad play. But overall he tackled really well and had
a very encouraging night.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
