Speaker 1 (00:00):
Of course us here on seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
We're also in the home of the Astros and the
GM meetings happening in Vegas getting started yesterday. I believe today,
if I'm not mistaken, at least here's sometime this week
we'll hear from Dana Brown. So, of course, once we
hear from him, and a little bit more light shed
on where we're going for the off season. You know,
I'm sure it's gonna be you know, your your priorities, Yeah, yeah,
(00:25):
you know what we're looking for pitching. I mean, you
know you can never have enough pitching, pitching, pitching, pitching.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
You know, well you mentioned I think I brought it
up yesterday the article in USA Today. But Bob Nightingale
yesterday he basically said the whole GM's meetings are just lies.
It's it's a bunch of lies. Everybody lies. Everybody's like, yeah,
we really don't have much money. I mean, we're kind
of broke this year. And because and then you're gonna
see team spend spend, spend.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
So oh, and did you mention Astro line tonight?
Speaker 3 (00:54):
No?
Speaker 2 (00:55):
I did not, So Martin, yeah, Martin and Angleton who
always asks about ash Line, Yeah, you got Astra line
the night six o'clock Joe A Spota with Todd Kallis.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
So it's gonna be the first.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
I heard a little bit of a sneak peek the
first couple of minutes, and it was Joe being asked
about the World Series and he was kind of giving
his thoughts on it, and.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Okay, you know, there you go. Obviously we want to
be there next year. That's it what Joe would say,
that's it, that's it. So hopefully that's the case. Joe
a Spota and joined some Texans football too. On Sunday,
I saw that nice little picture with Andre Johnson. You know,
looks like he was hanging out in cal and Hannah's box.
So a nice Sunday for Joe. It's good. It's good.
You should enjoy the offseason as much as possible because
(01:37):
baseball you don't have much of it.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
All right.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
So, Dylan Ceese is a name we've mentioned quite a bit, yes,
and this time of the year, it's when you get
the hot stove rumors, fast and furious out there. John
Morosi one of those people who have some of those rumors,
and I mean Cees has been a guy attached to
Houston before well, John Morosi says, well, it's good reason
to have his name attached to Houston.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
At the deadline in July.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
The team that was most interested in him the Houston Astros.
And when you think about the Astros and their depth
chart right now, Lauren, with Fromer Valdez now being a
free agent, I'm sure we'll get into Fromber as the
week goes along. They have a significant need for starting
pitching help now in their rotation via free agency. And
(02:21):
this resume right here Dylan Cees. You talked about the
reliability Lauren and everything that he's done. Those are strong
innings totals for Dylan Cees. He's such a talented picture,
his ability to generate velocity, the quality of the secondary stuff,
and you think too, he is someone that in the
right environment. It's a tough place to pitch there in Houston,
but when you consider that ballpark, I think his stuff
(02:44):
would play very well there.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
So for the Astros, who we know are always trying.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
To find ways to compete, they've had different pictures be
injured in recent years. But I think, especially with Fromer
being a free agent, Dylan Cees to the Astros probably
has as much of a chance of happening as any
their free agent prediction out there.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
All right, So here's a few things had some context
to this is, I mean, Morosi is kind of like
every other baseball insider. Nobody bats a thousand, literally and
figuratively in this case, but for him, I mean, you
also have to remember that Morosi was also on the
show he is on his way to Toronto part of
(03:23):
things a couple of years ago, and he had to
walk that back a little bit. So it it more
or less is it's nice to hear names, It's at
least nice to hear rumors out there. But that was
more conjecture than anything else. There's nothing definitive there. And
you also have to remember that Cease, much like fromber Valdez,
is a qualifying offer guy. So the compensation that likely
(03:45):
you're going to get for Fromber being one of the
first free agents signed this offseason could very likely be
going right back out the door to San Diego if
indeed you do go ahead and get Dylan Cease.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
Well, the the big thing I saw in this Ditingale
piece yesterday was he said, he said, first, what teams
are going to be the most aggressive and free agency.
The Dodgers are number one. They just freed up eighty
seven million because Clayton Kershaw, Michael could Foto, Chris Taylor,
and Kirby Yates all.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Came off the books.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
So they will be players for just about it. Can
you imagine they go at Dylan Ceese with that free
like with Blake Snell and all these ridiculous like this's
just an embarrassment of riches, Absolutely ridiculous if that happens.
He listed the New York Mets as well. He said
they embarrassed themselves having the biggest payroll last year and
missing the playoffs. Steve Cohen's not going to go, oh,
(04:40):
maybe we should learn from this. He's gonna go, no
spend more. So they're gonna spend. And by the way,
I've seen a few things have said perhaps from ber
Valdez couldn't land with the Mets, that they could spend
a ton of money.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
That'd be a very mess move. He said a few
other teams.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
The Yankees are going to spend just to say, oh, well,
the East is powerful, so we got to keep up
with the let's spend. Uh. The Toronto Blue Jays, they said,
just earned an extra fifty million or so in revenue
by getting to the World Series. They're gonna be players
and all this, And then he listened to the Orioles
and the Braves.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
They said the Braves.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
Team president Terry McGirk told shareholders they planned to be
a top five payroll team.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
So if they plan to be that, then they got
to go spend.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
So I just say all that to say, these are
who you're bidding with Astros. So if you want Dylan,
see's great, I want him, you want them, We all
want them to be a great idea, But it don't
work that way.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
There's a market and they're idiots out there.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
It's like going to silent auction with a bunch of
you know, but you you do all right, you make
good money. But there's a room billionaires there and they're
all going, all right, uh, you know whatever. They're raising
their paddles two hundred thousands, Well that would be the
case whatever, you know what I mean I say silent,
You know, you said silent four hundred thousand five. You're like,
oh my god, it's too rich for my blood. That's
(05:58):
what's gonna happen with some of these big these big
ticket free agents.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Out there, get you get money whipped right there, I guess.
And how funny is it too that both organizations that
I've covered extensively in my career, the tie ins between
the Astros and the Braves in terms of the viewing
of the organizations and how they spend because it was
the same deal there, Ah, cheap ass organization.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
You don't spend any money. The hell's y'all's problem.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
You know, you got everybody else in the division that's
going out there and going after the big name guys.
But you tell us that, you know, build you the
stadium and build you all this stuff outside, and you
guys will be, you know, a top five payroll. So
at least Terry mcgirck throwing it out there. That's that's
interesting enough from their perspective.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
The other one they brought up to is the Cubs.
They are.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
They're going to try to talk with Kyle Tucker, but
all signs point the Tucks leaving. Tuck's going, I'm going
to whoever's gonna give me that ten eleven year monster contract.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
So I think we can agree. The Astros won that trade, but.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
They said the Cubs they could with that left over
money could get in a bitting more for from Braveldez
or Dylan Cees.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
So again another one.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
Then this was Bob Nightingale in his piece where will
Kyle Tucker, Boba Schett and Alex bregnant Land. He brings
up that the suitors for Kyle Tucker Yankees, blue Jays
Dodgers again, are we gonna see Kyle Tucker and a
freaking Dodgers? Like just I could, I could summit Kyle
Tucker the Blue Jay. Yeah, Kyle Tucker, they're still in
(07:26):
the al. But again, that's what I said that yesterday.
He's playing with George Springer. You know, it kind of
become Astros fans second team man for him. I hope
good things out performing all this, but I just like
I can't stomach the idea of the Dodgers go, hey,
we free up a lot of money. You know, we're
gonna sign Kyle Tucker and we're gonna sign from Raveldez,
and uh hey, well we play those when we play
(07:47):
those cheating Astros, we'll let him know what cheaters they are.
But hey, we'll take their players and say I called
that from the very beginning.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
I said once some of these guys start becoming free agents,
then all you guys are gonna quickly start to change. Well,
you know, they're actually a really good player, and I
don't really think that they took real that, you know,
part in the cheating scandal. Okay, all right, cool, good story.
Let's continue the Astros conversation because one of those guys
you mentioned, he's a shopping we'll discuss right here as
(08:14):
we get into the seven o'clock hour, seven to ninety
morning show.
