Speaker 1 (00:05):
All right, hopefully hearing this a lot tomorrow, because that
means that LSU just kicked a pat or a field
goal off field. More for Pats, Let's hear that. Let's
hear this after Pats talk from college Football with Chris Marler,
Louisiana Sports dot Net.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Get him in a second.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
After I tell you about the Rockets being in Toyota
Center tonight for their home opener against the Detroit Pistons.
Six o'clock Rockets launch pack coming away for that. Texans,
of course, get the forty nine ers on Sunday, and
then the World Series game won the night we'll see
you our good buddy Brayden Fisher gets into the game
for the Jays against the Dodgers. Is a game one
(00:43):
of the World Series for that so talks from college
Football Chris Marler, Louisiana Sports dot Net joining us. You
probably remember his work too from Saturday down South. Marlar,
you got a pretty big one there tomorrow, and the
talk of the week has been from LSU fans.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Hey get rid of Brian Kelly.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
It doesn't seem like that's in play right now, but
let's just throw out a scenario. You lose tomorrow night,
you lose to Alabama, you lose to Oklahoma to end
the season, you think those same comments of the people
who have the money are going to be the same.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
That's a good question, you know.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
I think the as of last Sunday or last I
think it's last Sunday.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
The comments that.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
I was told or heard and all that kind of
stuff from people that would be involved in that process
was there's no Apple pliant to pay fifty three million
dollars this off season for Brian Kelly to leave. I
don't know what you do think. The bigger question, Dan
is like, what would if they lose this game? I
had no part of me thinks they're going to beat
(01:47):
Alabama in general.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
Maybe I'm delusional.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
I do think they are going to be able to
beat A and M and maybe Oklahoma because I think
those two teams have flaws that we aren't talking enough about.
Mathink else you can expose those flaws. But nine and
three you end a lot better if you go seven
and five. I think you are having different conversations. And
again that's a quote from one person that would be
involved in that process. As you know, there's a ton
(02:11):
of people that are usually involved in those processes, and
I think that there would probably be a much different conversation.
I think the other part, too, though, is big picture
the scary parts LSH is if you are you're going
into your fourth straight year where you have two losses
for the month of November, and you file you over
the hump this year where you win the first game
of the season, and but you still find yourself in
(02:31):
the same situation at the end of October, and that's
really frustrating, especially with the amount of talent and money
based on this roster. Now moving forward next year, you're
gonna have to go back to those same donors and
ask for more money and try to put together a
roster that's you know, hopefully as talented, but you can
somehow win more games. This is an eighteen million roster
with a five or a fifty year senior quarterback. There's
(02:53):
not a fifty senior quarterback with any of the talent
that the dust part has on this roster. Big makesure
for next year. I think it only would get worse.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
It could.
Speaker 5 (03:03):
Uh, you already brought this up, Marler, about a fifth
year starting quarterback, eighteen million dollars roster and they're taking
on Texas A and M this weekend?
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Who comes in at seven and oh?
Speaker 5 (03:11):
Last time that we saw Texas A and M win
in Death Valley was nineteen ninety four. That same year,
they went ten and oh and won in conference play
on the Southwest Conference title.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
You know me, dude, you know how I feel about
Texas A and M. You know the eight and four jokes?
Speaker 5 (03:26):
Are you ready to start believing that this is a
team that can actually go on a run on the
college football playoff?
Speaker 4 (03:31):
But also, fun fact, thought that ninety four sad stam team,
I'm pretty sure that's the last you have a double
check man a Sermusha Dan, we're actually the host san now.
But I think the the a the was it notre
game before last season? That was their last win in
like a New Year six or VCS level bowl and last.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
Yeah, unbelievable. Yeah there you go.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
So I think that that this I think they're better
than eighty four. I think they're going to I don't
think they're going to have a massive collapse down the
stretch or anything like that. Here's the thing, and I'm
not trying to just gass up my guy, damn here, Okay,
big LSU guy, love the death and I'm not just
trying to win one and side with my boy, but
(04:16):
this team sucks on the road, and they just stuck
on the road. They have gone to two places that
they have a college station twice this year they've given
up over forty points. And I understand this is a
better offensive than what LSU has, but you date back
to last season, in their last five games away from
college station, they have given up an average of forty
point eight points per game in those games, and that's.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
They think that's last year in South Carolina.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
It's forty two point three points per game in the
last four road trips against SEC opponents.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
And I don't know if LSU is going.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
To all of a sudden just foot on a switch
and put up forty points, but I do know that
this is going to be the best EVNSE they faced.
I think that we have really probably like bang the
drum a little bit too hard for Marcel Reid considering
what he's looked like at times away from home and
then also against good defenses. So I mean, the last
(05:10):
play against Other Dame was great, but big in the
statuet there, that was a pretty inefficient game. So I
think it's going to be a explosive, But I don't
see A and M leaving the month of October undefeated.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
Chris Marler again Louisianasports dot Net, Join us here, sec
rider for them. Part of the group over there in Baton, Rouge,
Matt Moscona, everybody of the sorts. Let's get it even
more local here in the Houston area. Texas Longhorns they
had to escape last week. They go on the road
and take on at Mississippi State. In your eyes, Marler,
(05:42):
is there any hope for this Texas team this year?
Speaker 4 (05:46):
I mean there is. They feel like I mean, they're
Notre Dame in burn Orange.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
They are.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
They're like somehow still possibly going ten to two, which
means they would possibly get into the Hosseball PLAYFF, probably
would get in the Hostball playoff.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
And just eking out wins. I don't know. I mean,
they get A.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
And M at home, and just like last year, it's
not like that schedule is super tough. That they got
to go on the road to play at Georgia, team
that I do think will probably hit the nail on
the poffin for their playoff hopes. But also it's a
very flawed Georgia team as well. So there's too much
talent and I have too much respect for Steve Startagian
to not figure it out. But I will tell you
this little interesting note that I looked up yesterday. And
(06:27):
you know, I love to dive into these numbers and
little numbers to know stuff in my little notepoke with
my number two pencil. But this season, Texas, I'm sorry,
missitv State is six and one against the spread, including
four to Zho at home, which is both of those
are tied to the best best second in the country
against the spread.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
Texas is zero and three against the spread away from home.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
The six and a half seems like way too low.
But every single week, and I think today, are going
to somehow turn it around against the team with a
bad defense or bad offense or both, like Kentucky, they
somehow find themselves in a dogfight. So you know, last
week going to Kentucky, I'm tired of hearing the whole
thing about.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Well Coolgerfield's so tough. No one escapes poker field at night. No,
that's not a real thing. That's not a real thing.
Speaker 4 (07:12):
You make Cutter Bowley go thirty one to thirty nine
and dice you up for four straight quarters. That's almost
impossible to do from a red shirt pression quarterback making
like his third career start. So I think I still
I still am delusion enough to believe that Sark will
turn it around. I will just tell you right now,
it's time to look at another option at quarterback, Like
it's the same thing every week, and maybe you figure
(07:35):
out a way to develop him and keep his confidence
in check or keep his confidence from getting shattered for
poor next year. But he I don't feel like he's
playing in a level that you need him to play
at that.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
Position to win games for them consistently.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Marlar, what's more likely to happen this weekend?
Speaker 5 (07:50):
Alabama in its fifth SEC game on the road at
a place like Willye b finds a way to drop
the ball against South Carolina, where John Cohen finally wakes
up and realize you Freeze actually is the villain in
his own story.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
That's time to go ahead to move off of him.
Down at Auburn.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
I think it's the Auburn one. The Bible one is terrifying,
because it's horrifying.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
It's horrifying.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
They are one in five I think against the spread.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
Their last six games against South.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
Carolina, they've like, he see what it's they they play.
Calend Moore has fourteen losses as an FBS head coach.
Twelve of those games have come on the road, eleven
have come against unraked teams. Seven of comments against it
as a double digit favor like all those bosses checked
for South Carolina.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
But Mike Schule is alive and so that is the
ultimate equalizer.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
And I don't think that they had the offense to
go ahead and put up enough points to beat Alabama.
The Alburn thing is fascinating because they really gasped themselves
into believing that this whole thing was a great idea.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
I honestly thought.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
Hugrees is perfect just because the whole hole year that now,
despite the sheckerd past, was like just a perfect fit
with Auburn in my opinion, no offense Thanny Auburn fans
and my fiancee could probably hear me the other room.
But like the idea that they they were gonna bring
this guy in who who's who's gonna get We're gonna
give him everything he needs exactly any more excuses you're
(09:10):
gonna have whatever you need from a recruiting budget, nil,
all this stuff like facilities, up grads, whatever you need,
you will have and most of that and the least
that he has gotten has been so much longer, mainly
because they hated Harson so much. And now you're in
a situation where you've won less games. You've been you've
been embarrassed I think even more.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
I mean, well, let's, you know, lay by my tongue on.
Speaker 4 (09:31):
That for a second, because we don't know how the
boosters will, what story they'll make up to try and
fire Hughes or Hugh Freeze, or maybe they will somehow embarrass.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
Themselves even more. But this is like you're one and
twelve against ranked teams.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
You're an underdog to Arkansas, And I mean, I don't
know how how many more things have to happen for
Alburn to realize, like, you know what, maybe we shouldn't
have like hired somebody solely based on the fact they
beat Alabama twice a decade ago.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
I guess we'll never know.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
It almost kind of felt like those questions were planted
the other day to Marlar to Hugh Freeze. But maybe
that's a little bit inside baseball for some around these parts.
But anyway, Chris Marler again Louisiana Sports dot Net joining
us here on the show.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
You're the best, buddy. We'll catch up soon.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
Sounds good, but I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
All right, There you go, Marlar. Marlar never lacks an opinion.
That's what I love about him. Well, was it a
few things? Notre Damon burn.
Speaker 5 (10:23):
Texas is a star dame in burn Orange for starters, Marlar.
I love you, buddy, I really do. But they are
nowhere near the exact same. One happened offense one doesn't.
He's got away with words, that's for sure. All right,
let's say before we get to Aaron Wilson coming up
here at the top of the hour with the operation
Royal Flush and nothing but net. If you haven't caught on,
(10:45):
I just I love saying the names like I just do. Well,
there's a take that somebody had yesterday, and no surprise,
they're usually wrong, but this might be the worst of
all of them. And we'll discuss that here as we
close out the eight o'clock the Hour on a fight
Song Friday, Sports Talk seven ninety
