Speaker 2 (00:00):
Trader.
Speaker 1 (00:00):
Nick talked about him numerous times. You get the NFL
trade deadline coming up next Tuesday, so a week from
yesterday and three o'clock, I believe is going to be
local time when the trade deadline hits, and we've already
seen some trades happen around the league. I know one
of them that you had mentioned as a possibility here
(00:21):
with the Texans where it seemed like they need some
safety help. But Kyle Dugger going to the Pittsburgh Steelers
and Keyon White to the forty nine ers. Both guys
had been relegated to backup roles under Mike Vrabel, So
there was a little bit of capital to work with there.
For the Patriots, where you're kind of looking at it
and seeing, you know, hey, you're trading away guys, Like
(00:43):
aren't you guys in the middle of a playoff push?
Like they lead the AFC East right now, do they not?
I know that they're a playoff team at the moment. Yeah,
second or second best record in the NFL. Right, So
there you go. You got you got Drake May and company.
So Nick Cassi has not necessarily been a guy who
takes advantage of en season trades I mean even last
(01:05):
year it was kind of the same deal. It was
like Nick, come on me, it makes some moves and
he's just like, eh, you know, there's not much this
time of the year.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
The NFL trade dead lie is largely it's largely always
been a dud. Like there's not a whole lot of
recent years there's been a lot more, sure, but it
was for the longest it was kind of maybe, you know,
once every five years you have a huge trade.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Oh remember it was on what was it This is
Sports Center commercials. It was even made a joke about,
you know how they were gonna prepare for Y two
K and they were doing their Y two K test
and one of them was I think Charlie Steiner, where
he had a headlamp on and he was saying, there's
been a trade in the NFL. Like it just goes
(01:49):
to show you how much more rare they are in
the NFL as opposed to any other league. Like you
look at the hierarchy of leagues where trade deadlines are huge,
Baseball's at the top. I mean, it's almost a national
holiday every single year, especially if you're teams in contention
or even if your team's way out of contention. You're
just like, all right, you know what, what are we
adding for the future here? You know, because we've lived
(02:11):
both worlds here in Houston, and the most recent one
it was are they going to get Carlos Korea? No,
they're not going to get them? Oh my god, they
got them. And you know, we got to see that
the NBA trade deadline. I think it's kind of right
there in the middle between the two because you will
see teams that that you know, swing big and at
a guy, but for the most part it's mostly smaller
(02:33):
moves and then you get the NFL. But I mean
for Casario, I think you have to look at it
where if you have a chance to go get an
interior offensive lineman, go do it.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Like, go do it.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Evan Neil is the name that's been floated out there
from the Giants, former first round pick right from from Alabama.
But you know, they're basically it was a piece saying
that they could see him as a reclamation project that
they could go get. The question is, would you know
who would the Texans be willing to give up? And
ESPN had put up a list of players from all
(03:05):
the teams that could be moved, and Christian Harris from
the Texans is one basically saying that he is, you know,
he's falling behind. You know, some of the starters on
this team fell behind Henry TOTOA E. J. Speed Al
Shaier due to inconsistent play, and obviously he had injury
(03:26):
history and all that. But you know, Christian Harris has
won some others. They brought up Damian Pierce obviously, you
know he's he's been pretty good in the return game,
by the way, I've all I've liked him on kickoffs,
Derek Barnett. They've even thrown out Davis Mills. I don't
think you would look at this point the season, you're
not gonna trade Davis Mills because again, you're fighting for playoffs. Botness,
(03:47):
he just drag goes down. Davis Mills is your best
chance to still make the playoffs. So I don't think
they would do that. But but again, ESPN they list
twenty five trade candidates, Christian Harris, number twenty four, number
twenty five, Evan Neil from the Giants, saying the the
number seven pick in twenty twenty two, this feels like
an ideal time to trade him away. He had a
(04:09):
pass block win rate of only eighty three percent over
his first three seasons with the Giants. He missed the
total twenty games during that time span. Teams still could
be willing to take a chance on Neil as a
reclamation project.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Well, and you also have to keep in mind that
the Texans have eight picks in the draft coming up
in twenty twenty six, and I mean, just looking at
some of the deals that were made yesterday, As I
mentioned Keon White defensive end to the forty nine Ers,
that's a swap of seventh rounders. You get a sixth
round pick back from the Steelers for Kyle Duggar, and
(04:43):
you send back a twenty twenty six seventh rounder. So
those were the type of moves made yesterday. And I
think for the most part the trades that you know,
I would be looking for, most of us would be
looking for. Is the Texans trying to take a little
bit of a larger swing. I mean, you've got a
first round under two seconds and a third next year
(05:04):
as well as two fourths, a sixth, and a seventh
for the Texans right now. So I mean, you know,
I look at those fourth round selections. Maybe that's that's
a possibility to entice a little bit more than a
reclamation project, because I think, for the most part, if
Evan Neil, the quote unquote reclamation project is somebody that
(05:24):
you consider, then I kind of feel like you've already
done those moves. Here's the thing.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
If this offensive line plays like they did last week,
you don't need an of Neil. I mean this, If
they can if they can find their groove at play
like that the rest of the season, this team's gonna
be okay. A few other names to look out for
Jonathan Alexander the Chronicle throughout their uh so many national
reporters believe Ravens tight end Mark Andrews could be on
the move. I just I mean, Dalton Schultz is fine.
(05:51):
I don't think. I don't think you need a Mark Andrews.
But two names that are very intriguing. One that came
out a couple of weeks ago, Breese Hall with the Jets. Again,
you plug, he's tall in this backfield, Sorry, Nick Chubb,
take a seat. What he marks and a Breecee Hall
combo would be phenomenal. And the other one Dolphins Jalen Wattle.
(06:11):
I mean, I like what we had out of the
young receivers, all the Iowa state receivers. This past week,
we got a waddle to the mix. Makes this offense
how much more explosive. So again, those are just some
of the names being thrown around there. Obviously, I don't
want to, you know, if you're Texans, don't want to
be giving up any second or third round picks. More
of those, you know later day, three picks is what
(06:32):
I'd be on the move. But we'll see.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
Well, And speaking of some of the names you just
mentioned right there, trust is given and trust has earned.
Maybe some trust has been earned over on Kirby by
a couple of the guys that again Gordy just mentioned.
We'll talk about it right here. And you want to
get in someone three two on two five seven ninety again,
it's someone three two on two five seven ninety. It
is a seven ninety morning show right here, Sports Talk
(06:56):
