With the trade deadline coming to a close yesterday afternoon and rolling into Week 10 of the NFL, the Texans shockingly abstained from tampering and making any trades ahead of the deadline, leaving many scratching their heads as to why. With offensive struggles continuing to appear detrimental to the team, many fans thought Houston would be active leading into Tuesday's deadline. With no buzz following no trades made, the Texans appear content with their roster moving forward in the weeks ahead. After reviewing all the trades yesterday and evaluating the Texans' current roster, Dan and Chris pose: can the Texans still make the playoffs, given their current level of play and the current roster players they have?

Speaker 1 (00:00):
NFL trade downline, Keeman Wentz.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
I mean for basically everybody else except for the Texans.
I mean, the Colts made a deal. The Jags made
a deal, Colts made a monster deal. The Cowboys made
deals plural, I mean. And that's the funny thing is too,
is I've got people this morning, they're three and five.
Why'd you expect them to make a deal? Well, the
Cowboys made deals. I mean, my god, you're in a

(00:24):
better position than they are, and they still felt like, hey,
let's let's make a deal here, and let's let's be
able to try to see what we can do about
making a run. Which they're foolish, They're they're not making
a run. That defense. Quinn Williams, No, Quinn Williams, Logan Wilson, No,
Logan Wilson. The defense is atrocious. It's terrible.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Didn't I tell you yesterday though, that the Texans were
not going to make a move.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
I was, uh, optimistic, maybe foolishly optimistic, but I was
optimistic because I just was looking at, you know, what
was possibly out there and what was supposedly get a
bull and I mean it's just nothing crickets. And now
I can't wait until we're gas lit by a guy
that built his life in his career off of a lie.

(01:13):
The Patriots way of trying to say, oh, well, that
organization's guy had all figured out. We need to completely,
you know, emulate what that organization does. No, it was
the Tom Brady way the entire time. So again, I
can't wait until we'res old we don't know what we're
talking about, and it's much ado about nothing and all

(01:33):
the other things that I'm sure he's probably gonna say
when he sits down with Texans in house media, and
when he does, then I'll have a response to go
along with it too, because I mean it's just what
have you done? Seriously? Like I was thinking about that
last night, Cordy, what has he done? Oh he pulled
off the trade to get c J. Strout on Draft night?

(01:55):
Or actually Will Anderson Junior on Draft night?

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Woo?

Speaker 4 (02:00):
Well, I mean, look, I.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Think I think a lot of the moves he made
when he first got here, and then you know, there
was a debate they took the injured Derek Stingley Junior
over Sauce Gardener and that could have been you know
that after the rookiear, what was everybody saying Stingley looks
like a boss and Sauce his hands down better. Right,

(02:24):
And now a few years later, Stingley has has proven
he has the edge. Now Sauce is still really good.
But if he was that good, would Jets be moving
on from him?

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Well it's not even about I mean the Jets looked
at it as oh, we're getting this for this, Okay,
well then yeah, we'll absolutely do it. The Jets know
they're not going anywhere anytime soon. Okay, fine, make a
trade and be able to set yourself up for the future.
And I think they'd like to have Sauce Gardener as
part of their future. But they also realized that right
now they're not a better team even with him.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
But there's a few people, like even when you suck,
there's a few people you. So these are our franchise
building blocks.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Is a corner of a franchise building blocks? Yeah, if
if it's a shutdown corner, sure your best player. You're
not going to move your best player if you're building
towards something.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
I like to meet.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
I saw about Brice Hall, because I mean, Bresall was
a guy that was thought about with the Texans too.
And it was from Batman or from The Dark Knight
with Bain when he's telling the one guy that he's
got to stay in the wreckage. They're expecting one of
us in the wreckage, brother, And they said that Brece
Hall was told that by the Jets front office that

(03:36):
he had to be the last remaining guy.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Although I mean, what was it.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
I saw a Jordan Schultz report that Hall was openly
pining for a trade request. So maybe that could be
a cut and you could pick him up, which would
be nice. But I think the only other problem is
there's going to be a lot of other teams that,
if that's the case, say okay, yeah, we'll jump on that.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
When did they trade? They traded Cam Robinson back a
month and a half ago, right, yeah, it was the
beginning of the season. Sam Warren of The Chronicle, he
tweeted out yesterday AFC South trades before the deadline. He says,
Colts gets Sauce Gardner, dealt ad Mitchell.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
I missed that one. They traded a d Mitchell.

Speaker 1 (04:18):
Ye, they traded Adie Mitchell as part of.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
That Jaguars ad Jacobe Myers and Greg Newsom, the old
Tyson Campbell Titan Steel, Draymont Jones, Jarvis Brownley, and Roger McCreery.
And then he lists Texans dealt Cam Robinson. That was
September twenty ninth. Brother, that is not a trade deadline move.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Well, I mean, you know, as we've been told much
ado about nothing, but in that case, I mean, they
felt like that Cam Robinson was not going to be
able to help out this team, so why keep him around?

Speaker 4 (04:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (04:48):
Well that was when you were playing musical chairs on
your offensive line and he just he's stunk.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
You mean, when you were playing your left tackle who's
supposed to be your left tackle over at right tackle
and confusing him even more.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Coaching great, Jonathan Alexander. I did not read his piece yet,
but he said this shouldn't come as a surprise. I
explained why it was going to be a quiet deadline
from them right here.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
No I saw. I saw then.

Speaker 4 (05:12):
If I'd read that, then I would have felt like
a genius because that was my TAKEO.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
No, I mean, look, I think that all of the
signs point to that Nick Assario was not going to
do anything yesterday. But it's still I mean, it's just
you look at this offensive line. Could you not have
found somebody that could come in and play left guard.
Could you not have found that guy? I mean, what
was it that you've seen some massive injuries hit the

(05:36):
the LA Chargers and they decided to try to do
something about it, making a trade with the Saints. I
can't remember who they got from the Saints, but I
mean at least they tried to do something about it.
There were teams out there that were gettable that you
could have traded with, and you could have probably found
some help there at that spot.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
Jonathan Alexander said they liked the Texans, liked their draft
capital and the picks they acquired from Washington. The Tunsil
trade a second or fourth round pick, which have become
significantly more attractive than when they made the trade. The
Commanders are three and six. Jane Daniels dislocated elbow could
be done for the season, so you know, those those

(06:15):
draft picks get much more attractive.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
But my thing is.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
Cool, I mean, nice first round pick and then you
traded out the first round.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
Not every trade yesterday was for a draft pick.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
I mean it was, you know, I obviously even thinking
if you make a trade, make a trade for a
player like there's a.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
No, this would have been made make a trade for
a player. I don't give a damn about draft capital.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
Well, but what I'm saying is he's saying the Texans
didn't want to give up their their capital. Who says
you have to give up the cap, That's what I'm saying.
They were there were players for players moved yesterday.

Speaker 4 (06:44):
It wasn't.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
It wasn't.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
All the deals didn't include draft picks.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
So it's not like, oh, my precious, my precious draft picks,
I can't give them up.

Speaker 4 (06:52):
Like it's the same guy.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
Yeah, but but I mean it's the same guys like, ah,
well first round pick.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
Yeah, we don't need those, We'll move back. I don't
need that.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Well, I mean that's the way that they've done business
the last couple of years.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
I mean the draft.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
A couple of years ago, they didn't have a first
round or because of those said trades that they made
to be able to move up and get Will Anderson junior.
But last year, I mean, you were right there, and
I guess the offensive lineman they thought that they liked,
which was I think one of the Ohio State offensive linemen.
Then they trade out and move back into the second round.
I mean it's like, look the trading out and moving

(07:30):
back into the second round. People point to Bill Belichick
when he used to do that in New England. It
worked because you had the franchise quarterback already and you
had a team full of veterans, Like, yeah, of course
you want to be able to not pay that first
round money for players. I get that. And it worked
when you had again number twelve there. But when you
don't have Tom Brady there and you make moves like that,

(07:54):
you significantly downgrade your chances at having a better roster period.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
This was the quote from cal McNair when he was
asked about it last week. If something makes sense, Nick
is always very active in trying to make the roster better.
If there's something that makes sense, I'm sure they'll find
a way.

Speaker 4 (08:14):
To do it.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
Well, you had the Jets having a freaking fire sale
out there. It was a grass sale. Everything must go,
everything must go, and.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Even the Saints to a certain point.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
Yeah, I mean the Saints are like, let's get rid
of Rahishahi, Trevor Penning, all these pieces, and you get
the Jets out there selling everything and Brice Hall literally
saying I want to get out of here. Please, somebody
get me the hell out of here, and let me
just remind you you're starting running back Nicholas Chubb over

(08:48):
the past three weeks has rushed for sixteen yards fifty
six yards of thirty four yards. That is three games
combined to get to one hundred yard rushing mark. What
did Brice Hall have just this past week he went
off off? I would say, like, that's a guy that
could be a little bit of a difference maker for you,
even behind this offensive line, which isn't great. I just

(09:11):
I would have liked to have added another back to
the mix. Yeah, p he saw that one hundred and
thirty three yards rushing in two touchdowns on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
I mean to me, that guy, I imagine having that
in this building.

Speaker 4 (09:21):
He is, hands down.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
That's all we can do is just imagine.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
Better than Nick Chubb. And I get he's twenty four
years old. I just it doesn't make any sense to me.
He was available. There were websites written about, hey, like
we can we can Texans can move this guy. This
make or they can get this guy. This makes a
lot of sense.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
But whatever, No, I mean again, I just I can't
wait for the gas lighting. I can't wait for, you know,
basically for all of us to be told we don't
know what we're talking about. We're making much ado about nothing,
and all of these other things. Well, I mean, you
know what, Usually people who I think say stuff like
that are people who they then s selves don't know.

(10:01):
I mean, how many countless examples do we have to
have in this league and throughout sports in general that
whenever people get defensive like that, you're insecure about the
way that you go about your job. And I think
that's one hundred percent the case here because again, aside
from the draft night trades, I can't point to one
good thing that Nick Casario has done as the general

(10:22):
manager of this team. Is this roster really, even that
good Gordy top to bottom?

Speaker 4 (10:26):
Is this roster? Look?

Speaker 3 (10:28):
It is gonna that's news to me. I'm not gonna
poo poo on Nick. I mean the moves he's made
to get them where they are.

Speaker 4 (10:37):
He's done. He's done.

Speaker 3 (10:38):
He's done more good than bad. Like I said, I mean,
you know, and it's maybe you could argue it's easy
to it's easy to draft in the top ten, but
there's missus all the time.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
You know, I'm not you know, doing the good versus
pad here.

Speaker 2 (10:56):
I'm just saying that has he necessarily made this team
better because you have like this is vacation right now
that you're on and you're putting it all on the
credit card. This is vacation, and they're spending it like
somebody that doesn't want to completely enjoy the vacation and

(11:18):
be able to pay it off later, which I get
financially again, you know, talk about financial sense all the
time here, but I mean I understand that to a
point that's kind of irresponsible. But this is the time
to be irresponsible. This is when you're supposed to go
all in on a rookie quarterback in a rookie edge
rusher that you have, which both of those guys are

(11:39):
gonna have to pay, and when that happens and the
party's over, you better make sure you draft.

Speaker 4 (11:43):
Well.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
They haven't necessarily done that either, guys.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
He's traded up for Christian Harris, will Anderson Junior, Juice Scruggs,
Tank Dell, Henri to Otel, Xavier Hutchets, and Caitlin Bullock.
I mean, these were all guys that have played a
big part on this the last few years, and then
guys they've you know, even picks when they traded down.

Speaker 4 (12:04):
Kamari Lassiter was a trade down.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Last year was a good pickup. I'll give him that.
Last year it was a good pickup. Obviously, it's still.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
Jalen Petrie in the second round. He's turned into a
stud player for you.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
He turned into a good player for you.

Speaker 4 (12:19):
Jalen Petrie a good player. Man. You're you're grading harsh today.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
I mean I'm grading on the fact that you had
a guy that was playing safety that you had to
make a linebacker because you just weren't as confident in
his coverage skills.

Speaker 3 (12:33):
That's a good player. I think it's a thumper. I
think they've built. Look, I'll say this right now. Coming
into the season, the roster, they they they did what
they thought they needed to do. They blew up the
entire offensive line and said let's try something else. This
clearly isn't working. I give them credit for that. I
think coaching comes into player. I don't think this is

(12:54):
all Casario. I think this Nick Cayley is a terrible
higher whoever hired him. If it is Nick Okay that
hire the offensive line coach. I think was a terrible
decision to stick with Popovich. But again, like I I
at the time, people said, oh, I think this is
a good move, So I can't say the GM made
what we thought was a good move and it didn't

(13:15):
work out. So he's a terrible GM. I think it's
the people he hired haven't worked out.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
Who is the constant in both of those guys that
you just mentioned.

Speaker 4 (13:26):
What, Yeah, I get it's him.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
So there you go. This wasn't Demiko. It was him.
He's the one who made those decisions.

Speaker 3 (13:33):
Okay, But but at the end of the day, the
blame should go on the sucky OC, not the GM
who hired. I'm like, the blame is you didn't do
your job.

Speaker 1 (13:41):
You put them people.

Speaker 4 (13:42):
But people wrote articles of what a great move.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
It was like it's the same thing, like who wrote
articles about how great it was.

Speaker 3 (13:49):
The day the Astro signed Christian Walker? Everybody said this
is a great signing.

Speaker 1 (13:55):
He sucks.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
Who Now, were you gonna point go Dana Brown, You're terrible. No,
Christian Walker, You're terrible. You're the one not producing say
they were Nick Kayley. Again, yes, Nick hired him, but
at the end of the day he's supposed to be
a good OC and he's not.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
I will give Dana Brown's track record a lot more
credit because his track record actually actually yielded results and
had them competitive as opposed to again, you know the
moves made this last offseason with the offensive line. And
we're gonna continue this conversation because I mean, just as
a whole this year, if we want to go that route,
we can absolutely go that route, and we'll discuss right

(14:32):
here as we're just getting going on a Western Wednesday
