Speaker 1 (00:00):
Run along here from Radio Row in New Orleans, and
you never know who you're gonna run into and join us.
Now a baseball star, he is World Series champion from
two thousand and eight. I believe with the Phillies. He
is Jason Worth. Jason, welcome in man, are you I'm good?
Speaker 4 (00:13):
Good? Thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
It's good to talk with you, man, because UH, you've
you got a new venture you're doing right?
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Horse or horse racing?
Speaker 4 (00:21):
Talking about horse racing.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
So we got into horse racing a couple of years
ago and I ended up on a horse named Dorric
and he won the Belmont last year, ran ten to
the Kentucky Derby.
Speaker 4 (00:31):
I was buying.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
I was into kind of kind of getting at the
lower levels doing some Phillies and and and that cold game,
and then got into it, got into a colt my
first call I got into wins the Belmont and uh
and we went on to win a couple of great
ones last year and really just changed our lives. And
and since then we've we've started icon Racing.
Speaker 4 (00:49):
UH.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Icon Racing is a is a partnership, so we were
it's kind of a fun, you know, we bring people
in as owners to UH to experience the sport. You know,
I think it's it's just an unbelievable sport. It's it's
on the decline, and I think it's just because you know,
there's not there's not a lot of people that know
how to get into the sport. So icon Racing the
whole idea is to bring new owners into the sport,
(01:11):
experience with how great the sport is, and hopefully, uh,
help help revitalize and grow grow the sport. I got
my I got my hat on Marga make horse racing
great again, and uh and you know, and we started
a podcast to talk about it as well off the
rails podcast icon Racing l FG on all the socials
and uh, yeah, we're just here to promote it. And obviously,
(01:31):
uh with the Eagles being in the in the Super
Bowl and go Birds.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Yeah, it's it's pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
I mean, that's kind of an untap market when you
talk about you know, horse ate horse racing and that
sort of thing that happened to podcast. But we got
a guy in Houston who he's still in Houston technically,
but he's a free agent right now. It's our buddy
Alex Bregman. He's in the horse racing. Have you all
cross paths at all.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
In that, Yeah, of course, we uh, we've we've I
saw him at the World Series in Phillya a couple
of years ago and I was talking to Dusty Baker
and he came up and was like, hey, man, I
heard you, you know, herding the horses like awesome game.
I was like, yes, we've. We trade numbers and stayed
in touch, and you know, he's doing his own own,
his his thing, and got our thing, and we've talked
about collaborating because you know, I think I think it's
(02:11):
a great sport for athletes and retired athletes, especially when
those horses leave the gate. For us retired guys, you know,
it's almost like you're back on the field. So it
gives it fills this void for the retired athletes. I
think it's an awesome, awesome spot for guys once they're
done playing to kind of kind of you know, feel
that you know, the thrill of the thrill of victory
(02:33):
and the agony of defeat that you don't really get
anywhere else that you've you've done every day for your
whole life, and now you know, now it's gone, so
you know, it's it's for anybody, but for retired, for
for retired athletes.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
I think it's uh, it fits, it fills the void.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
You got any any intel or bread he might be going.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Uh No, I had some. I had some intel on
on sure's there. But then he then he signs.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
Uh okay, because I.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
You know, I came up with Toronto. Uh when I
was like first getting to the big leagues and and
he was calling me asked me about it, like why
are you asking me about Toronto? Well, and so that
was like a week before he signed. But he has
since signed. But I haven't heard anything from alex on
uh on that when we when I talked to him,
it's it's it's horses only.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
Okay, Well, let's let's talk about it.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Because you were it was seventeen eighteen was when you
kind of I think eighteen you were in the Mariners
organization and then kind of decided to call a career.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
But all the allegations that came up with.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
The Astros, the cheating skinner, where did you fall on
that kind of stuff, Because there's people said there was
stuff going on with everybody. They were just a little
bit you know, ahead of the game. And he was
in the real time sign stealing all that. Where do
you come down and all that stuff.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yeah, I mean, like I think there's a line right that,
Yeah that you know, everyone's kind of skirting around. Obviously
they they crossed it and uh and they got had caught.
H So it's you know, I think it's that old saying,
if you ain't cheat, you ain't trying. But you know,
when you when you get banged for it, then you
kind of gotta go own up to it. So I'm
(04:03):
sure that that there's people that are that are pissed
off about it, you know, Like I don't just I
you know, I didn't really affect me a whole lot.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
You know, if if you're on the other side of
the of.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
The of the coin there, I can see why you
you would be a little bit out of shape. But
at the same time, I mean everyone's looking for an edge.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
You know.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
I played on teams that that had all types of
schemes going that you know, nobody knew about and uh
and and I'll never tell anybody, you know.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
So it's it's just it's just what you can get
away with, you know.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Yeah, it's uh, it's everybody's looking for an advantage winning.
Winning is hard, and if you can you can find
something that helps you, you, uh, you take advantage of it.
And if if you crossed the line and you get caught,
you you got to own up to.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
It's interesting because it's something that could have easily been fixed.
I mean, you know, everybody's got their signs for stuff.
But like we see guys all the time, catchers will
meet with the picture go hey, I think they're tipping.
Let's change our signs. If you change your signs, that
solves everything, right, I mean.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
It's good.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
I mean the we we we definitely were on the
other side of that. We played against some uh certain
teams in playoffs where we were certain that they were
doing something. We didn't know what, but we we knew
that something was up. There was this, there was something
was going on, so we would you know, always were
always changing signs and making.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
Sure but uh, you never you ever can't be.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Too careful these days, you know, and you just I
think you gotta assume that stuff's going on. But I'm
with you, you know, like if if if you're if
the guys that are that are mad, like you're saying,
like all you had to do is change your signs.
I mean, and if you weren't changing your signs, you
think that nothing's happening.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
I think you're stupid. Yeah, so, I uh, I don't know.
It's a it's part.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
It's all part of the game, you know, if you
get if you cross the line and you get caught,
it is what it is.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
It was.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
They did win it in twenty two, so it almost
was kind of a I don't know, justification, but like,
all right, it looked really good, clean, like yeah, we're
supposed were really good and hey whatever, so they wanted again,
what do you make of I.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Want to know if like where we're at on the
you know, or is it too soon to make jokes
on it, you know, as far enough past it we
can we can laugh about.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
It now, I think.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
So, you know, I'll uh, I've been I've been wanting
to get bragmant on the on the show. And then
my co host Sean is like, well, well if we
what if we see how many times we can say
trash can why he's on the show. I'm like, I don't,
I don't know, I don't know if we might be
too soon.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Yeah, we've heard the joke so many times and it
falls on deaf ears or more. For you on this
current Asros team, who do you like a lot?
Speaker 3 (06:33):
I mean, Jordan.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Alvarez has established himself as a as a crusher. Al
Tuov is just a constant. But who on who on
that Asterros team do you kind of like?
Speaker 2 (06:41):
I mean, I'm I'm I kind of came came up
with L two V. I think he's you know, the
guys that are that are still playing that I've played against,
you know, for like a long time. I you know,
I still, uh keep an eye on those guys because
there's not many left, you know. But he's a great player,
you know, I don't I want the National League more
than I watched the American League, So I would I
(07:03):
would go with L two.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
Of A for sure.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
The uh we went to Philly for the World Series
in twenty two. I mean that place was absolutely rocking.
It was cool to see them back in it after
you guys wanted you know, so many years prior. But
that atmosphere, I mean, it's got to be one of
the best in baseball. When it's sold out in Pact.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
It's the best.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Philly is the best, is uh when the Eagles one
the other day they showed them the all the pictures
from Broad Street and the fans going crazy.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
It's just it's just an unbelievable city.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
It can be brutal, but it can also be, you know,
unbelievably good. So they can as as bad as they
can be, they can also be as amazing.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
I see your hair still kind of flee You got
the flow going a little bit still.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
Huh oh, yeah, it's it's it's uh, it's all. It's
all up in my hat right now.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
I don't want to scare anybody, but you know, I've
got superstitious about that whole thing.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
That's why.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
That's why it uh was it was as long as
it was, and now with horse racing, I'm even even
more superstitious. So it's yeah, it's anytime I cut my hair,
something back that happens.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
So I just can't cut it.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Last thing for my wife, she went to University Kentucky.
So we we've been up to Keenland a bunch and
see a lot of the horses. Is is that the
Where's the best place to to raise horses?
Speaker 4 (08:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (08:11):
I mean so Kentucky is the best. There's some stuff
going on in Florida right now. That's uh, they're trying
to kill the sport in Florida. We need to we
need to do some things to keep keep it. It's
a it's an amazing sport Florida. Uh, Kentucky. You got
Saratoga in New York. You know del Maart out in
Santa Diina out in California, and the same thing happened
in California, and uh that's going on.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
In Florida right now.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
So hopefully we can we can help help, you know,
bring new owners to the sport and bring awareness to
how great this sport is and and uh help grow
up because I think it's it's worth saving. And these uh,
these horses that they are incredible athletes and if we don't,
if they don't have horse racing, then these guys go away.
So I'm uh, I don't want to say I'm here
to save the sport, but I'm definitely here to uh
to promote it.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
And the key is you would one Derby and man
the stut Fees, I mean you were set for life.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Right pretty much. I mean we won the Belmont. It's
it's pretty close. So it's amazing, amazing experience, amazing animals
and with Dornick it was life changing.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Well one more time, lever, But I know where they
can find the podcast.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Yeah, so it's off the real podcasts on all the socials.
It's Icon Racing LFG. The podcast is on Spotify and
YouTube and we're just getting going, so give us a
follow and uh.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
And if you're interested in on the horse, hit.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
Us up, Jason.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
Great stuff, man, I really appreciate you stopping bye. That's
a corporate We'll be right back right after this
