Speaker 1 (00:04):
By Talk Friday.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Here from the seven ninety Morning Show, Dan Matthews, Cole Thompson, Triple,
Emmanuel Elmore hanging out with you as the Rockets home
opener tonight against the Detroit Pistons. Texans at home on
Sunday against the forty nine Ers.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Let's talk to.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Them right now with a guy I know as Stats
and you can also find him on Twitter at Stats
on Fire. He is Rob Guerrera with the forty nine
Ers podcast, the gold Standard forty nine Ers podcast, and
he joins us right now, Stats. What's up, Buddy. Good
to hear from you again. And you know, with this
forty nine Ers team, brock Party just seemingly a every
(00:43):
single week storyline with him. Is there a chance this
is the return of Brock Party on Sunday?
Speaker 3 (00:50):
No, I don't think there's any chance of Brock Party's
back this week. And I don't really know when Brock
Party is going to be back at all. You know,
they all thought he was going to come back this week,
he worked out before the Falcons game, and then all
of a sudden we found out it's still bothering him.
So there is no timetable for Brock's return. Right now.
It's going to be the Mac Jones show in Houston.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Stats.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
When you look currently at Mac Jones, just to fit
with him and Kyle Shanahan, what have you been very
impressed with? What are some things that you still think
that could be a hindrance that maybe leads to the
Texans making this a lot closer than expected.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Well, Mac has done a great job of getting the
ball out quickly and getting it to where it needs
to go when it needs to be there. That is
what he has been locked in very I don't want
to say robotic because that sounds like a flight, but
he has been very machine like in just getting the
ball to his reads. Kyle Shanahan is drawing up a
game plan that works and Mac is executing it. Now.
(01:42):
The downside to Mac Jones is he can't move at all.
He looks like he is running in quicksand and the
foot nine Ers offensive line is just average in terms
of pass protection. So if you can get pressure on
Mac Jones, he ain't going anywhere. So that's going to
be a big job for Trent Williams and company is
to keep Brock up, excuse me, keep Mac upright on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Again, Rob stats Carrera joining us here on the seven
ninety Morning Show, one of the hosts of the gold
Standard forty nine Ers podcast, So of course talking the
forty nine ers for Sunday.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
Kyle Shanahan. I mean, we know that he's a guy
and it's funny.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
I always love this, Oh he loves to you know,
we you know, work with and manipulate mismatches.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Who doesn't.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
But when you look at this Texans defense, what do
you think that he can try to exploit on Sunday?
Speaker 3 (02:29):
I don't know, they're really could. I mean you're talking
about a defense that is right up there in the
top two and yards and points allowed this season. It's
gonna be a challenge for Kyle Shanahan and I honestly
don't know what he can do, but I just have
such faith in him to be able to continue to
do it. I mean, he's piecing this together with duct
tape and chicken wire. You know, he's out there beating
(02:51):
the rams with his backup quarterback. No wide receiver one,
no wide receiver two, no wide receiver three, no tight
end one. I mean has been comical what Kyle Shanahan
has had to work with this year. But yet he
finds a way to do just enough to get this
team a win. And so there are not a lot
of weak spots to attack with the Texans, but Kyle
(03:12):
Shanahan I just will find a way to at least
let them move the ball between the twenty.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Rob When you look currently, it feels like everybody has
been sacrificed to save the career of Christian McCaffrey this year.
He's on pace for over forty two hundred yards with
this team outside of him. Who is the name that
Texas fans need to know that Brock I mean that
mac Jones can get the ball do in space, probably
makes some plays. And also just a quick update on
Ricky pier Saw what is his stass going into this game?
Speaker 3 (03:37):
So George Kittle is back, which thank god for that
because the forty nine ers finally have a weapon that
could make some explosive plays. So he would obviously be
the first choice after McCaffrey. But after that, I mean,
it really is it's Jewan Jennings and Kendrick Bourne. Really,
Bourn has been the one that had a couple one
hundred and forty yard receiving games. It's sort of been
wide receiver one while everybody's recovering, So I would say McCaffrey,
(03:59):
Kittle and born in that order. Now, Ricky Pearsall is
kind of in the same boat as brock Perdy. They
also thought he was going to be back this week.
He hasn't played in almost a month now and there
is still no timetable for his return. He's not going
to go this week either.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
Stats Tamiko Ryans obviously, you know, making his coaching bones
there in the Bay Area with the forty nine ers,
and then you know Robert Sala being there coming back.
How much of this defense still resembles what Demiko is
known for as a defensive play caller.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
Some of it for sure, because like you said, they
all come out of the same system. But Robert Sala
has done a tremendous job of evolving and adding things
you know used to be we rush for we play
cover three, and that's pretty much what we do every down.
We're just going to be really sound and really good
at executing it. That is not the case this time
around with Robert Sala. He's really mixed in a bunch
of different coverages. And now because Nick Bosa and Fred
(04:55):
Warner are lost for the year. Sala has really had
to blitz a lot more than he as in the
past because they don't really get a pass rush without that.
He blitzed twenty five percent of the time last week.
That was way more than he usually does. So he's
evolving just sort of naturally, but also the circumstances that
he's in are sort of forcing his hand.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
You got to look at the standpoint of and you
just throw this up when it comes to the pass
russ they're bottom three in pass rush win rate this year.
They only have nine sacks through the first seven games.
When you look at this defensive line, what is going
to be a way to be able to pressure CJ.
Stroud into forcing him to make mental mistakes the way
that Seattle did last week and the way that other
teams like Los Angeles and Tampa are able to do
earlier in the season.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
I don't know that the defensive line itself is going
to be the ones to be able to get pressure.
They don't have an active player on the line right
now that has more than one fact on the season,
so that's just not what they do. If they're going
to get pressure. I think they're going to have to
bring safeties and corners. The Niners love to bring their
corners on blitzes. I think that is really the way
that they are going to have to get pressure on Stroud.
(05:58):
So I think there will be up oportunities for Houston
to make plays, especially because the niners best corner, Diamador Lenore,
hasn't practiced all week. He may not be able to
go at all. So that's another opportunity for Houston. But
I don't think Sala has a choice. He wants to
make CJ. Stroud uncomfortable at all. He's gonna have to
send some extra people from the secondary, and that could
be an open door for Houston to sort of make
(06:21):
the Niners pay again.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
Rob stats Guerira, hosts of the gold Standard forty nine
Ers podcast, part of the Pro Football Insiders, Join us
here on the show at Stats on Fire is how
you can find him. Stats gets you out the door
on this one. I mean we've been talking about it
all week. The betting line for this one Texans favored.
That's probably a surprise to some here, but I mean
you've touched on the injuries and how much that's affecting
(06:44):
US forty nine ers team. So all that said, is
it going to surprise you If on Sunday we see
the Detexans coming out of this game three and.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Four, it wouldn't surprise me. The only thing that would
surprise me is a forty to forty two type game.
Like a high scoring game would be the only thing
that surprises me. This is going to be very close.
I could see both teams scoring like one touchdown and
kicking three field goals. I think it's very possible that
this game's swings on a turnover or a special teams
(07:12):
play one way or the other. The forty nine Ers
special teams absolutely stinks, so Houston is going to have
definitely an opportunity there. I think that's how this game
is going to go. I don't think it's going to
be high scoring at all.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Stats you're the best, buddy again.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Find them on Twitter at stats on Fire, host of
the gold Standard forty nine Ers podcast, and hopefully there's
a reason for us to talk to you again here
in the near future, because it's always great to catch
up with you.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
Man, it's been too long.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
Thanks for having me all right.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
Appreciate it again.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Rob Guerrera Stats part of he was with Pro football,
Pro Football Focus or Pro Football Talk for years and
also does some work with ESPN Radio and he's covering
the forty nine ers. One thing though, Oh I've completely
forgot Stats is a big Mariners fan.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
Dang it.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
He is one hundred percent right though, one of the
best bets of the week under forty one and a
half points.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
But I actually like Stats. I don't think that I
would have given Stats a hard time. Yeah, I still
would have. I don't know him on if I can
give he's the best. He is such a good dude
and always great to be able to catch up with him.
All right, So Larry and Stafford see you right there,
were working in. Also one quick note on again Operation
Royal Flush and Operation Nothing but bet I'm never gonna
(08:26):
stop saying.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
I'm just telling you right now. So if you get
tired of it, that's on you.
