Speaker 1 (00:00):
As promised, let's get into a little bit of Texans
with our good buddy and Sports Talk seven ninety Texans
Insider also does some great work with KPRC two. He
is Aaron Wilson and he joins us now Aaron Bye
week and the Texans last week going to your old
stomping grounds, Baltimore taking care of business there. Do you
think it was more of what the Texans were able
(00:22):
to do offensively or do you feel like that it
was really spurred on by just how banged up and
really not good right now the Ravens are.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
It's a mixed bag. And yes, that was like the
Ravens junior varsity, that's the varsity that said they executed
their offense and it was confidence. I did have one first,
a pretty close to the situation, say the Ravens right
now are not an NFL team. It's a very blunt
comment of someone that is in a really good position
(00:52):
to know, and I accept that, but I cannot ignore
the precision, the timing, kind of flow, a little bit
of swag, if you will, even guys celebrating. When's the
last time you can remember some good celebrating in the
end zone by a Texans offensive player. So, I mean
they were bold. They did the Ray Lewis Old squirrel
(01:14):
dance there, Jail Nole. I mean I like what I see.
I like the attitude. I love the blocking and the
receivers on the Nick Chubb run. Seeing Xavier Hutchinson and
Christian Kirk get in there and six and O's in
there and throw some blocks, I just felt like an
offense was working together and I could kind of see, Okay,
well this is how Kaylee sees offense. The misdirection play
(01:38):
on the Nol touchdown. I mean that's kind of cool.
I mean there's just starting to see a few things.
The jumbo package. Okay, you don't really have like a
blocking tight end because Katee stowisingery reserve. So I saw progress.
I don't know if they would have scored forty four
points with rokwand Smith and Moll and Humphrey and all
those guys out there, but maybe they would score like
(01:58):
twenty four again.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Aaron Wilson join us here on the seven to ninety
Morning Show. Offensive Line. I mean you touched on it
a little bits. Where you go Juice Scruggs there at
the left guard spot. I mean is it maybe finally
looking like they've got the right five to work with
up there.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
I think it's the best five, and this isn't as
much of a you know, in credit to Juice Gross,
I heard he was practicing well, but for Laken Tomlinson
at his age, he's thirty five, and there was definitely
signs of decline in terms of not being able to
move his feet well enough to do what he's been
coached to do because he's really fundamentally sound. So you
(02:37):
have to kind of accept that the age factory kind
of hit a wall. So they felt that way, and
you have a I mean, he drafts him in the
second round they should be playing, So I think it's
a combination of both factors. I look at Juice, I think,
you know, he needed to have a holding penalty of
this last game, but overall I thought he held up
solowly and he'll continue to be the guy again.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
Aaron Wilson and Sports Talk seven nineties Texans Insider, also
with KPRC two. You can find Aaron on Twitter at
Aaron Wilson Underscore NFL C J Stroud. I mean, just
before we get it even more into this team going
forward in the last couple of weeks, he's looked a
little bit more like the CJ. Stroud that we thought
we were going to see after the first season. But
(03:22):
I mean, the accuracy looks like it's there, looks like
the command of the offense.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
Is there?
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Is that more on CJ? Or is it that maybe
even Nick Kayley is starting to find his footing.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
I think a little bit more on CJ. Because he
needed to see it confident in what they were doing
and he needs to feel like, okay, I think the
protection is good enough, and I mean he was quite
frankly seeing some ghosts out there. There were times where
he's not under enough to rest to throw those incompletions.
He's just aiming a ball Tampa Bay. That was concerning,
(03:55):
and that's not I thing. A lot of people are
said on one like, what's wrong with him? No, I can't.
He just delivered the ball like he's capable of doing,
because he's a very accurate thrower of the football the
last five quarters. I think that's more what CJ was
like as a rookie, when he's just kind of letting
it loose and playing smooth football and he's eighty one
percent and you know, he's the ashy office player of
(04:17):
the week this week, and now he's at the Dodgers game.
He's you know, can relax and kind of enjoy himself
a little bit a couple of days off. This is
to me what he's always been capable of, because I
think he's always been talented, and I think for him
a lot of it is confidence. It is mental and
you can listened to his comments sometimes we talk about
his body language, or you can kind of watch with
the podium and you can tell, you know, he's a
(04:40):
little bit maybe he doesn't feel like to a media,
or he's just you know, kind of in a mood,
or he's upset about how things are going with the team.
He kind of wears it on the sleeve. I don't
think he'd be a great poker player. I think you
can kind of tell when CJ is in a great mood,
he's feeling good. He's not necessarily one of those never
let him see the sweat. I think he'd like to
be that way, but that's not necessarily he is. He's
(05:01):
an emotional quarterback, and I say it a good way.
He cares a lot about this game and works very
hard that said, sometimes you ride a little bit of
a roller coaster with CJ. And he's only twenty four.
He has birthday last week. I think he's getting there.
And I think him and Kayley it took a while
(05:23):
for their collab to kind of work. And I think
Kaylee's still hidden stride as a play caller because some
of the plays he would run week one and week two.
I mean, it just looks a little better right now,
the whole operation, and if they can stay in the
race while the offense improves, maybe they get in the
mix and it's gonna be tough though there's some difficult
opponents coming up. And I don't think we have enough
(05:44):
information still about this team because I just wonder, you know,
can we just count those two wins and then they
come back to normal, come back to earth against teams
like Seattle, San Francisco and Denver. I'm fascinated about what's
going to happen the next three weeks.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Couple more minutes with Aaron Wilson again. You can find
him on Twitter at Aaron Wilson Underscore NFL defensively. I mean,
is it just as simple as you remove CJ. Gardner
Johnson and the secondary improves because as an entire unit,
ten games are ten points. In the last two games.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Fair point. I mean he was mucking up the works
on some key plays where he would literally cover the
wrong guy. He was freelancing, he would bust, he would
point his finger at people. He did it in meetings.
He even made fun of a guy's contract. I mean,
he was in a lot of behind the scenes and
I think he was becoming a coming. He was a distraction,
(06:41):
and I think he's affecting the culture and the vibe
that they want to have, which is everybody does their job,
everybody runs to the ball, and you've seen it this
year a little bit of I don't know if the
roofless is the right word or just like a it's
all business. If you're not getting it done, they will
(07:02):
not stick with you. So Lincoln Tomlinson out jews scrugs
in Cam Robinson not as good as nursery. Okay, you're
not the left tackle anymore, we'll trade you. And then
on defense CJ. Grnounson, you're not fitting in, you're out
of here or cutting you now. He's on the Ravens
practice squad. Ironically, so is Kenyon. He's the card of
(07:23):
the trade four in the former first round busts of
the Texans. Then you look at you know the other
you know, defensive changes. Toma TIGEI earning playing time, Okay,
he's gonna play. I think EJ. Speed another one. You know,
you look at he's playing, of Creder Toto a little
more snaps, and Christia Harrison not playing at all right now.
(07:45):
So I think they're gonna do whatever they gotta do.
They win on three. They're not trying to be two
and four, two and five, two and six, They're trying
to salve it the season. So I respect that. I mean,
you know, the fans should looking at how determined they
try to win and have a top defense. The defense,
what they got to hang their hats on. It's a
great defense, and that's one thing. You know. Nick Schara
(08:07):
deserves some criticism on some of his moves, but he's
drafted and signed some really good defensive players and this
thing works. And Matt Burks allowing what five points a
game as a defensive signal.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Caller, team is two and three right now, Aaron. So
next week when they take on Seattle, after that, they
got San Francisco coming here, they got Denver coming here,
they got Jacksonville coming here. Let's just say they split
that they're four and five. Is that going to put
them in position to still make a playoff run or
do you have to go three and one or even
better against that tough stretch.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
I think they got to do the three and one.
I think that, you know, being a game under five hundred,
it doesn't get that much easier. There's some games I
think that they'll handle. But you know, we're just not
even sure. Are they as good as the Cold Chet
because they haven't played them though? Are the Culture Jags
that can a slide? I mean the Jags defense that
was pretty legit to me, and I believe in what
(09:06):
Shane Stiken and Daniel Jones are doing their collab. It's
hard for me to just see these teams like, Okay,
they're nothing, They're gonna collapse. It's all fake, it's all
smoking mirrors. So in my opinion, it's gonna take them
winning the division. I don't think Wild Card's gonna get
it done to make the playoffs. I think they gotta
win ten games to be sure that they're going to
(09:27):
win the division. And that's gonna be a heck of
a run to go eight and four. It's gonna be hard, no.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Doubt about it. It's again Aaron Wilson Sports Sox seven
