Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's get into the Texans because Jamiko Ryans talking yesterday

(00:03):
with the media, the offense, well.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Things have been better. According to the Texans head.

Speaker 3 (00:10):
Coach, the things that worked the past couple weeks offensively
is just us being able to stay committed to the
run game and run the football. You can run the ball,
you can sustain drives. That's the key, right and that'll
be the key for us moving forward. We can do that.
We can control the line of scrimmage, get positive plays
in the running game.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
That allows ours, That allows.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Kaylee right to be able to open up the playbook
and call whatever he wants, whatever he's installed that particular week.
Everything is at his disposal. When you're disposal, when you
can stay on schedule, and that's what has been the
past two weeks.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
And the Texans in those two games have outscored their
opponents seventy to seventy to ten, and I mean to
his points into the third quarter, fourth quarter against the Titans,
that's when you started to see the run game get going.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
And then yeah, I mean you.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Saw good run pass balance against the Baltimore Ravens. Now
here's the follow up to that, Gordy is you're going
to have people who say, well, wait a minute, I mean,
look who they played against. I guess the true test
is going to be against a really good defense in
Seattle on Monday night.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
I was just reading it was a Seattle fan that
took I guess it was a clip of Demico yesterday.
He was asked about Jackson Smith and Jigba and he
said something like who's that or something. So they're trying
to spin it into this guy, says Demiko Rance pretends
he doesn't even know the league's top receiver.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
He's going to regret this.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
And then it follows with a bunch of comments of
pictures of Jackson Smith and Jigba. Let him know what
time it is next week. Fam, like a whole lot
of that. So we heard enough of you guys. You're
in the legion of boom Era. We don't need to
hear from you anymore. All right, you guys are just
another football team. Somebody said, put Stingley on him and
don't worry about him.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Right there, You.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
Go, that all suffice enough, and then maybe if you
want to kick you know, Kaylen Bullock or even you
know out of the star position Jalen p over there
then sure, go ahead, But I mean, it really is
with the Texans. What we've said from the beginning is
that it all starts and ends with the offensive line.
They've played pretty well in the last couple of games. Again,

(02:12):
I understand what the opponents are banged up with injury,
but it is where you can count on the defense.
It's kind of like the Astros. You know they're gonna pitch,
so if they pitch and you hit enough, you're gonna
win the game. So the Texans offensively, you score enough,
you're gonna win the football game.

Speaker 4 (02:26):
Jackson Smith and JAG believes leads the NFL and receiving
yards right now, just a hair under seven hundred yards
receiving through six games. Puka Nakua is second, George Pickens third,
who had that on their Bengo card A Mecca Abuka four,
m Jamar Chase five. Do you know where Nico Collins ranks?
He is probably fifteenth. He is thirty eighth in the

(02:49):
league in receiving yards. This is a guy that established
himself as one of the you know, one of the
top ten receivers in the league the last couple of years.
He is not off to the best statistical start.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Well, if you want to look at a glass half full,
though with Nico is you do actually have other options
to work with.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
Now, it's true, I guess he finished He finished twenty
second receiving yards last year, but did have a thousand
yard season, so that was you know, is he gonna
get over a thousand this year?

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Well, he's also I mean the past couple of years
had hamstring injuries that have kept him out for some time.
But I mean having the rookies and no knowl and Higgins,
that's helped. Christian Kirk has helped. I mean, you're actually
getting production out of Dalton Schultz and then what he
marks too, who you would like to see used a
little bit more, which, by the way, I don't know
if this was real or not, but somebody, I guess

(03:42):
either the mom quote tweeted it or liked it or
did something where it was why aren't we using him more?
So maybe there is a little bit of that too,
where it's, hey, you're using the rookie, but use him more.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Yeah, and I think he will.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
I mean like he's you know how great he is
in the passing game, you know, green game, dump it
off to him. I think some I say, it's fifteen
yards per touch, so like get him, get him the ball.
But I think, like, Okay, if Joe Mixon is really
not going to come back, Nick Chubbs is not, he's

(04:16):
not good enough to be a feature back anymore. In
other words, what do you marks needs to start taking
more and more and more of those carries, like I'd
like it to be we get to in the next
couple of weeks where they are like fifty to fifty
out of the back for That's that's what I would
like to see. But yeah, by the way, Nico Collins
just two years ago finish eighth and receiving almost thirteen

(04:37):
hundred yards and eight touchdowns, So has he dropped off
or is just this offense doesn't know how to get
him the ball?

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Well, I mean, I think that's another conversation to have too,
because once you start extending CJ and will Anderson Junior,
well then somebody might be on the way out.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
So who knows.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
I mean, maybe that's kind of part of it too,
that you could look to and say, well, we don't
really have to pay him this much anymore because he's
not really given us the production to.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
Be able to back it all up. So it's just
been a very quiet for you. Like Nico Collins. Like
I said, I think going in the last two years,
we all agreed he's established himself as a top ten
receiver in this league.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
You paid him as much. I mean, you extended him
to be exactly that guy.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
So I mean, if that's starting to kind of fall
off a little bit, yes, you could look at CJ
and say he's a huge reason for it. But I
mean again, you're gonna have some You're gonna have some
decisions to make when it comes to contracts, and you're
gonna have to draft incredibly well. Once you pay the
quarterback and once you pay your star edg Rusher.

Speaker 4 (05:34):
He does have three receiving touchdowns, which is pretty good,
you know, like Saint Brown and Pickens have six, Dallas Goddard,
a Doonzay and about a half five and then there's
a whole bunch of guys at four and then he's
got three. So yeah, I just put this way. I'd
love to see Nico Collins going to Seattle on mon.

(05:54):
Then I have a monster game.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
I know we're gonna do Notes from the Shield here
in just a few minutes. But ceedee lamb being out
with the Cowboys. And I know that Jerry Jones did
his weekly visit yesterday up in Dallas. That talking about
extending George Pickens. I mean, perhaps it gets to a
point where you even continue the trading in Dallas where
you're like, hey, you want this contract, you want this

(06:16):
guy that could be a top tier receiver.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
We are.

Speaker 4 (06:19):
We are having a garage sale in Arlington, and uh,
if you would like to come buy some of our pieces.
We have some great players we've already got. We got
some great trade assets for Michael Parson's and now we're
gonna do the same CD labor.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
We're just gonna keep selling. You know, you'll get top
dollar for him. I'm telling you, Steve, Stephen, Steven and
the guys will take care of you.

Speaker 4 (06:36):
I will throw in a d or purse as well.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
And even even some of Genie's artwork that we got
all throughout the stadium too. So check it on out
here at at and T Stadium. It's one it's one
of the best in the NFL. It's one of the
best in the world.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
Just sell everything if be like now, if the price
is right, you can have Doc as well.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
I made my mind up. I was gonna work with
my kids.

Speaker 4 (06:58):
Is their backup quarterback trade Lance?

Speaker 1 (07:00):
No, it's not Trey Lance anymore. God, I can't remember
who it is. We'll look that up there in the break.
But like I said, let's do a look around the league,
as we'll call it to Notes from the Shield with
Chris Gordy job.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Now, oh that is right, that is right.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Yeah, where people were talking about him throwing ninety mile
an hour fastballs, that's right.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
Yeah, because he came in and played against the Bears.
But wait, by Tail Milton, if you want Dak, we
will trade that.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
I was going to say, we could very well start
Joe Milton.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
We could win football games with them.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
You wouldn't anyway, I win football games with anybody. I
was going to say, yeah, just look at last week
against Carolina. So we'll do that right here. As we
continue on at the seven ninety morning show, as it
is a Western Wednesday around these parts, Sports Talk seven
