Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Astros Fan the Fest special here on Sports Talk seven,
Honey Rosby or Reale, Dan Matthews, Adam Wexler with you
and now pleased to be joined by Taylor Scott. Now, Taylor,
we just had a Spencer arraghetti and he gave us
the inside intel.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
He said, you got quite the golf game.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
Sometimes I.

Speaker 4 (00:21):
Don't think I do, but I guess I'm gonna play
against them, I do, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
He also said you were gonna sawt sell it. So
he's two for two right now.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
I guess I just had my good games against him.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
That must be Is he three for three?

Speaker 5 (00:34):
Because he also dropped a brief impression of you.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
How did a guy?

Speaker 5 (00:39):
I thought it sounded like just like you sound.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
I would debate that. I think that sounded terrible.

Speaker 5 (00:46):
He a good teammate.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
Yeah, he's a great guy. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (00:50):
You're in this bullpen last year at this point in time,
you know, as you get to spring training last year,
wondering what might be in store for you, how to
pitch your way onto this team into a spot, and
then the season goes on. When you look back at
twenty twenty four for you, and what do you think about.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
I thought it was a crazy season for me. There
was a lot of stuff behind the scenes that had
to just work out perfectly for me to be in
that situation, and it ended up happening, and.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
I just it was just a crazy, perfect.

Speaker 5 (01:21):
Place to be a lot of pitchers talk about maybe
finding something working with this Astros group of you know,
pitching staff, people, behind the scenes, analytics, things like that.
Is there anything that kind of surfaced in your arsenal
that really this is something we want to continue moving
forward with.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
Yeah, that'stra is just a great job of figuring out
what my best pictures were, what made me unique and different,
and then we kind of just ran with that and
use that to my advantage.

Speaker 6 (01:48):
Taylor Scott joined us here at Astros fan Fest and Taylor,
this time last year, you're going to West Palm Beach
with the express purpose of I've got to find a
way to make this roster, and you were able to
crack camp with the team.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Just kind of take us back through.

Speaker 6 (02:02):
That of you know, just going through those competitions and
you know, just kind of measuring yourself up against other
guys to try to give yourself a chance.

Speaker 4 (02:11):
Yeah, as always that competition going into spring training, you
kind of stack yourself up and see where you stand
against those guys, and going in, you know, I knew
there was a lot of guys ahead of me. They
were already on the forty man, so it was gonna
be a tough thing to do. And like I said,
that kind of perfect things happened for me to get there.
You know, some guys just got hurt and injured, and

(02:31):
it just happened perfectly that I was just the guy
at the right place at the right time.

Speaker 6 (02:36):
Do you think that's what led to you having the
season that you did that. I mean, once you cleared
that hurdle, you're kind of like, hey, I'm here now,
it's just time to pitch.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Yeah. I mean, you know in spring I did really good.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
I did really well, and the things I was working
on proved that they were working and good, and so
I was just able to run with that.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
What was it like for you through as the season
went along? You just kept pitching so well the entire
time just kind of as.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
A mental whatever I'm doing was there You're trying not
to think.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
About what you were doing that was working or was it?
What was the mental battle for you throughout the season
that you pitched so.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Well in the beginning, it was still kind of.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
You know, the new plan and strategy that we had,
seeing how it worked, and it was working well, and
Kep working well and Keip working well, so we just
gained more confidence. And so every time you went out there,
you just had this way more confidence every time.

Speaker 5 (03:27):
Yeah, anything different as we sit here and getting close
to February, close to pitchers and catchers reporting just mentally,
is anything different as you headed to this year?

Speaker 4 (03:38):
We usually it's just around the same this whole season.
I don't think I'm trying to come into spring training
as mid season form as the years in the past,
So I'm trying to just kind of build it up
a lot easier.

Speaker 5 (03:51):
Golf clears the mind for some. Does it do that
for you some?

Speaker 4 (03:55):
I don't really Honestly, I don't play golf that much,
like three or four times a year.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
I don't to go out much.

Speaker 4 (04:01):
So I think that's what irritates Arrighetty that much, is
that he plays a lot in that down.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
And then I still get to be him.

Speaker 5 (04:07):
So is there another group?

Speaker 2 (04:08):
You got Spencer there?

Speaker 5 (04:09):
What other two guys do you want out there on
the course? On the fourth room for several hours hanging
out together.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
Watscha was Spencer and Seth matinees us three we've got.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Right now.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
I don't even know who plays that's the left in
the bullpen. I don't think there's really anyone.

Speaker 6 (04:29):
You gotta start recruiting somebody now and give him some lessons.
Was Nesky at least, you know, if you want to
get into the starting rotation. I think when the trade
was made for Kyle to bring him here, that's where
he was. He was on the course, So maybe that's
a guy that you guys can add him. So bus
there you go. Taylor Scott again join us here from
the Astros FanFest. You mentioned about trying to be as

(04:50):
close to mid season four when you guys get to
West Palm Beach as possible. Is that a change to
the offseason training regimen that gets you in that position?

Speaker 4 (04:58):
Well, like I said, that was a thing I was
doing in the year's past just because I was really
fighting to make a team, no matter what team that was.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
And so.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
It was kind of just the most important part of
my season wast spring training because.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
That's you know, where I showed my stuff.

Speaker 4 (05:12):
So this show is a little bit different where I
can maybe come in and slowly gradually build up and
kind of save my strength and stamina for the end
of the season.

Speaker 6 (05:22):
Any teams, you know, will tell you that the best
ability is availability, and you showed.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
That last year.

Speaker 6 (05:26):
I mean when they needed you to make a spots
start against Pittsburgh, you did that.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Is it kind of just.

Speaker 6 (05:31):
One of those things that the phone rings, I'm ready
to go if it's high leverage, if it's middle innings,
if it's long relief, any of those things.

Speaker 3 (05:39):
Yeah, I understood what my role was.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
I like to think of myself as like a utility pitcher,
just like we have utility position players, to where I
could pitch in any position in any role that do
you need me to?

Speaker 3 (05:50):
And that's no problem.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
Was it a good time out in the Astros bullpen
and it become an even better time when Hector Narris
joined the bullpen.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
Yeah. The guys in the bullpen they're great.

Speaker 4 (06:00):
They everyone's super helpful, you know when you want to
run things by them, advice, everyone's down.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
They had the experience, and so it was it was
a good time.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
It's a good group.

Speaker 5 (06:09):
How did it go like watching the routines for the
guys who normally were at the back end. How Presley
got ready for his inning or what he might be called,
how Brian got ready, and obviously how Josh got ready.
How was that like for you watching how they went
through that over the course.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Of a game. Yeah, it was a great, great learning experience.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
You know, each guy was so different in the way
they got ready and and did their things. So it
was very interesting seeing each guy do their own thing,
and you kind of pick and choose kind of things
to try out yourself.

Speaker 5 (06:35):
Can you see exactly what Ryan is locked in?

Speaker 4 (06:39):
He's different, He's a different bolfing guy. He's just one
of those guys that kind of sits there and his
name gets cold and he looks over and he's like,
all right, he gets on the mount and thoughts throwing.
You know. Josh says, he's his routine where he gets
stretched on and ready and he's he's the weight that
bowls stuff.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
So everyone's just very different.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Who's the cut up guy out there? Who's who's the
guy keeps it loose?

Speaker 3 (07:04):
Presley Pressley was a guy kept on this. He's pretty funny.

Speaker 6 (07:07):
Yeah, I mean, is it you know, kind of like
what you're talking about. I mean, does it kind of
dry humor a little bit of you know, somebody in
the crowd says something and he's got a quick one
liner for it or anything like that.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
Yeah, I mean you have to kind of.

Speaker 4 (07:23):
Come up with something to do in the bol thing
because sometimes these games get along and was sitting down
there for hours, so you know, we always come over
there is something to keep each other to entertained.

Speaker 5 (07:32):
Games will be played, I'm sure out there to keep
you entertained.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
Taylor. We really appreciate your time.

Speaker 5 (07:37):
Great to be out here with you and the fans
and best of looks as you get the Florida and
all throughout the season.

Speaker 1 (07:42):

quick break.
