Speaker 1 (00:00):
And now we're pleased to be joined to buy Taylor Trummel,
which sounds a lot more classy than Trammel.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Hey, travel, Taylor, How I'm Taylor Trummel.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
So it sounds much better, sounds classier.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
I like, absolutely, I'm not gonna First of all, Aura,
can we talk about Aura for a second?
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Early hot?
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Oh my goodness, he's got Aura. I like Presidence Primiary League.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Guy. I don't I don't know anything about that.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
I just know the top players, and I'm like, he's
got he's got something to him.
Speaker 3 (00:31):
I'm like, yeah, look at him. He's he's from Norway's
like the Viking Warriors. Yeah, he's got a face on him.
Like that's he's a good looking dude. All right, Taylor Trammel,
I have the okay, truth be told. I got the
Manchester City Chelsea game on right now. They're up to
to one, so I was watching that during the break.
But what's sucks in baseball? You like host I love it.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
I love it here. There's a lot of good a
lot of good people out here. Uh, Southern hospitality is
something I'm used to us.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Very welcoming here. Great food.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
I've had some Mexican I have something. I had some barbecue.
I've had feel about that the well two days ain't
gonna hurt.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
That's what I like to hear.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, when you're new to the team and you're part
of the caravan, which you were for the past couple
of days, you obviously you're going to get to know
your team is a little bit. Did you get a
sense of what Astro's fandom is like because you made
all these stops craziness in a good way.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
A lot of fans, a lot of diehard fans, and
it makes us feel welcome, especially being here and being new.
It's something that I enjoy because I love them interacting
with our fans. I love the interacting with the people
who get us around. I love that the people that
support us. So for me, it's it's a humbling experience
because these guys are taking time out of their Saturday today,
(01:47):
they're coming out here supporting us, and uh, it's like
I said, it's a very humbling experience. You got to
experience these guys from the opposing clubhouse when you were
in Seattle and other stops that you've made throughout your career.
What were your impressions of this organization before you joined up.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
You can hate those guys.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
I got to say, yeah, it was uh, it was,
it was. It was a lot of respect. I'll say that,
there's a lot of respect. Every time you came into
Houston or they came to uh when I was at Seattle,
when they came into Seattle, Uh, you know, it was
gonna be a good It was good, gonna be a
good matchup.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
And for me, uh, you.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Know, you knew you were gonna get you know, the
best arms in the league. Uh every time, you know,
you were gonna get the best hitters in the league,
so you had to be locked in for nine innings.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
And for me, it was.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Uh, it was fun because uh you know, when I
found out I was getting traded here, it was I
was very static because I know there's one thing that's
the culture that they've built here. Uh it's a winning culture.
And uh, I mean, you know we see it especially
last year. Just kind of how this year started and
then how we ended, like being able to get to
the playoffs, being able to win is you know, you're
(02:49):
looking at that and you're just like, these.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Guys find a way to win. And for me, that's something.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
That I feel like in my career, you know, I've
won a lot in my career, so it's been fun
to just kind of be around these guys and to
embrace that winning culture again and I enjoy it.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
And these guys here they're I mean, they're top class. Here.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
You mentioned that hearing that you got the train to
take us through what happened, and you're like, all right, well,
I guess I'm.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Packing up moving to Houston.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
So I was like, I was with the Yankees and
I got a call in talks with my my agent
and everything like that, and I got a call and
the Yankees said that they were gonna add me to
the forty man and they were gonna trade me.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
And I was like, you know, we hear that, you
hear trade. You're just kind of like, Okay, where could
this possibly go? And uh, for me, it was Uh.
There were a few teams where I was like, I
would love to go and play for them.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
Houston was one of them. And when he told me Houston,
I was like, I was like, yeah. I told my wife.
We have family out here too as well. So I
told my wife and she was like she was just
that she was screaming yelling, and uh, you know, I was,
I was pumped up.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
So I was just very happy to be here.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
I mean, it's an interesting twenty twenty four roster for you.
You spent a little time with the Dodgers with a waste,
then you're with the Yankees, who needs its.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Three winning, three winning cultures, which I could say honestly
teams that have experienced in the World Series. And for me,
that's something I'm ecstatic about because I think there's only
one goal for every team, that's the World Series, and uh,
it's it's prevalent here and I'm very excited to be here.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
What parts of your game over the years you're obviously
trying to, you know, be a bigger part of the
Mariners each of those years, and obviously with the Dodgers
and Yankees, you know, let me show you what I
can do and be a part of what you're doing more.
You're in the same situation here. You look around and
what the opportunities might be. How do you view what
this opportunity is here in Houston amongst their outfielders, how
you sit on the forty man things like that.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
Absolutely for me, I'm just I'm excited for me the
work that I put in with a bat, It's been
something that uh, you know, opportunity and consistenty really hasn't
been there the past, you know, three years, and I'm
excited to just go out and just get get at bats,
get get comfortable. I think that's the biggest thing with
with guys when we kind of talk about just you know,
(04:59):
your careers, like, you know, how can you get into
a more comfortable feel how can you feel like you belong?
And with that, it's at bats for pictures, it's more innings.
And for me, I think that was a that's a
big thing that I'm looking forward to in this uh
this year's spring training.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
And then I would also.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Say just as far as my game, uh, just just
kind of knowing the game, you know, defense is a
big part of my game.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
I enjoy.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
I enjoy being out there. I love being able to
save runs for pictures. I love being able to, you know,
do you know, make plays out there, show my athleticism
and do all those type of things. Uh, there's I
don't think there's I think there's more bigger compliment than
a picture coming up to you and be like, hey man,
I appreciate you. You just saved me like two runs
right there. And uh, when those guys are vouching for
(05:44):
you to be out there in the outfield, this is
a very good feeling, very good feeling.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
It sounds like you've already answered the question I'm about
to ask, hit a homer or save a homer?
Speaker 3 (05:52):
Better feeling. Oh, it depends on who the homers off of.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
That's if I can say, because you know, I did
it with Justin Verlane.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
I hit a homer off of him.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
That was probably one of the coolest moments of my career.
But I will say back in twenty three, I had
a really cool, I would say, kind of a game
saving catch over.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
The wall on the side of the left field.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
That was a very cool feeling for me because I'm like, okay, yeah,
we just I pretty much just saved the game right there.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
You're welcome, guys, You're welcome.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
I was like, don't don't celebrate, but thank you in
advance for me. Taylor Tremille joined us here at Astros
fan Fest, and you know, I don't know how much
of a chance you've had to interact with coaching staff,
the development guys here, but I mean from everybody we've
talked with in the organization. It seems like it's a
top notch group in that room. What have your impressions
(06:48):
been with them? It's been amazing. I've had a chance
to be with a Snicker. He's, uh, we're Georgia boys,
so we we've we've known each other in the past.
He was my hitting coach in the Fall League in
twenty eighteen, so that's the connection that we have. And
obviously being from Atlanta, that's another connection that we have.
So I've I've been in contact with him and then uh,
(07:09):
pretty much everybody bell all the guys, uh, everybody that
I've talked to, and you know, you get this inside
scoop on the guys that have formerly played here, the
guys that are currently played here. It's been Uh, it's
been awesome. I've heard nothing but great things. Everybody said, I'm.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
Gonna love it here.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Everybody said that the coaching staff, you can talk to them.
You don't have to worry about, you know, saying the
wrong thing, just asking the wrong questions. Like like I
said earlier, comfortability is a big thing, especially with guys
that are coming in that are new and everybody I
was here yesterday with the staff and everybody like that,
and it was just a very comfortable feeling.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Any of them mentioned that you'd be in a left
field position group with jose al to day.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
No nobody said anything, and for me, honestly, like, I
haven't really thought to.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
So it's been it's been pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
You mentioned Smit and you know, you can't watch a
game and not see him in the dug out with
guys and he's got the tablet out.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
You know, kind of pointing through things.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
I mean, you know, was he that hands on with
you when when you had him and I'm assuming it
was the Arizona.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Fall League, Yeah, not so much, not so much.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
I think we had I think there's that kind of
like balance that you have to have, especially like when
you're dealing with other players and you know, other other
prospects and everything like that. But uh, we we we
had conversations. I could say that part. We had conversations
and he was he was like, hey, man, like really
like you and I really enjoyed the way that he
interacted with the Astros guys that were there. And you
(08:34):
can see a difference between the Astros guys that were
there and then obviously like some other teams, and it
was like, those guys have a plan. Those guys are
like probably a year or two ahead of some of
these guys that are coming up, and you just see
like the as far as the development of the attention
to detail. For me, that was something where I was like,
we're talking about places that I probably would want to play.
(08:56):
That was a pointer for me where I was like, Yeah,
these guys, they they know how to win, They know
how to like develop guys into being.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
The players that they are. Obviously, you see the products of.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
The guys that are in the farm farm system now
and then the guys that were in the farms that
they're in the big leagues or even went on to
different teams, the.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Success that they have.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
So that was, like I said, that was for me
where I was like, yeah, this is an organization that
I really respect and I want to play for.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
Does a left handed hitter come to Houston and think
maybe a conversation with Jordan Alvarez could have some value? Oh?
Speaker 1 (09:27):
Absolutely, I saw him hit yesterday and yes, that is
a conversation that you know.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
I was.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
I was a fly on the wall when they were
talking and I was taking everything in and obviously you know,
you see Crawford's box over there, and you're just like, hey,
that's gonna help my swing.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
Out a lot. Being able to go to the other
side of the field.
Speaker 1 (09:45):
You don't have to feel like you have to pull
everything go dead center or anything like that. It's like, yeah,
you know, I can hit up all hard in it.
You know you be rewarded for it going backside. So
it's a good feeling, good feeling.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
What is that process?
Speaker 1 (09:57):
Like you talked about the attention of detail all that
type of stuff and working with a sticker as somebody.
Are you somebody that tries not to think too much
or try to get you have to keep your head
clear or what is that like for you when you
get into the batter's box and what that batter's box
and work on those things.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
I try.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
I try to prepare as much as possible, and then
once I get into the box or anything like that,
I try to just get away from Like I try
to just clear my mind because overall, if I preper
if I prepare my body for anything that I do
or anything like that, I feel like during the game
it's just gonna take over, you know, I've been doing
this for you know, I've been hitting for I don't know,
twenty plus years or something like that. So it's a
(10:35):
good feeling whenever you prepare, prepare, prepare, and you get
into the box and it's just like, okay, now let's compete,
let's compete against these guys.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Let's uh, let's get the job done.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
So when when I'm preparing and everything like that, it's
a lot of attention to detail how my body feels,
what my form is, and how everything's going. And then
when I get into the boxes, hey, get the job done.
And that's that's how the simplification has kind of developed
in my care as far as just get the job done.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
It doesn't matter how you do it, just get the job done.
We certainly appreciate you sitting down with us.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
Know you've had a chance to see and get to
know a little of the fans yesterday. What do you
think of FanFest?
Speaker 3 (11:12):
This is crazy?
Speaker 1 (11:13):
I love it.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
I love it here. I've been to a few fan fests,
but uh this, I.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
Will say this, this group of fans they're so like attentive,
they know everybody. Uh you know, like I said, I'm
new here, so like I'm getting the whole Hey, Taylor,
how are you doing? He and I'm like, Okay, these
guys know their players, they know they're they're invested. Uh
you know, you know that first first game here against
(11:38):
the Mets, you know they're gonna be out here. There's
gonna be a strong, strong presence out there. So, like
I said, I played here against these guys and it's
not a fun place to play when you're the opposing team.
So it's a credit to the fans, it's credit to
everybody that's here, and uh that invests a lot of
their time and uh and then resources here.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
But Taylor, we certainly appreciate the time. Glad you're here
in Houston. Over good things and best to you guys. Yeah,
hit Florida.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
Absolutely, I appreciate you guys. Thank y'all. All right, thank you.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
Taylor Trummel here on a Sports Talk seven ninety
