Coming out of their Bye Week, the Texans rolled down to Los Angeles to take on Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams just a few days ago in MNF. Unable to put up a touchdown following 3 made field goals with a total of 9 points, the Texans fall to the Rams with a final score of 14-9, now making the loss their third in a row. Looking ahead to Sunday and noting a few players who intend to be absent for kickoff, Aaron Wilson joins and shares a few things to be mindful of ahead of Sunday's kickoff, as well as the areas the Texans must dominate if they wish to push on to 3-4.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Catching up with our Texans insider. Aaron Wilson also does
some work with kPr Seed two. You can find him
on Twitter at Aaron Wilson Underscore NFL. Aaron, I mean,
let's just go ahead and get started. You know, we've
seen the injury report a couple of days with Nico
Collins and Christian Kirk both on it, so it's likely
they're not going to go Sunday. If that's the case.

(00:20):
Is Jaden Higgins and Jalen Knowle are they ready to go?

Speaker 2 (00:24):
They say they are. I think Nole certainly showed signs
on Monday night that he's ready for more. He's coming
off of a touchdown his first one against the Ravens,
and every time they give him opportunities he seems to
flourish with them. Higgins, it doesn't look like him with CJ.
Stroud or really in sync this past game zero for
three on targets. But I was encouraged by what he

(00:46):
was doing the previous two games, where in five quarters
he's you know, got about five catches and fiftyg yards.
It's still a really high target percentage for Higgins, and
I think that you know, throwing to him as if
the higher this thing because he's six four and you
don't have Collins in the lineup, So I think you
got to give him more opportunities. You got to find
ways to feed him the football. The guy's fast, he

(01:08):
can jump, and you picked him as your highest draft pick.
I know they're basically treated him like their first round
pick the way that they maneuvered in the draft, even
though he's the second rounder, and they set a precedent
to guarantee in this contract. I think that Noel, we
kind of know what we're going to see with the
run after the catch, and they've got to be creative
and he's got to play better too. Higgins and you

(01:30):
don't remember their rookies. This is their first year. They're
still navigating it. But yeah, we have to talk about
all the soul to the little one of them with
dolls a short ones. He said, these guys are workers,
they do it the right way. And he's, uh, he's
not the kind of vet that's gonna just like say, yeah, yeah,
they're they're good. He's very very honest about everything, including
you know, he's like, on my own performance, that does

(01:50):
the matter? We lost? You know, he's coming off of
a big game. They meant talking about the receivers, but
what about Schultz. You know, nine catches, ninety eight yards
on ten targets, all on the losing cause, but still
production nonetheless, so I think they got to throw it
to him. They got to look at you know, ways six,
Van Higgins, Noll and no one's talking about Xavier Hutchinson.

(02:13):
But you know, obviously Hutchinson is a more steady performer
of the healthy guys. And at your beginning question, no,
Nico Collins, Christian Kirk not this week. We're going to
go to practice a couple hours and they don't expect
to see they're got practicing Aaron.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
When you look at the current status of the San
Francisco forty nine ers, they basically have sacrificed every other
player besides Christian McCaffrey, so that way he has a
good year. He's one of the only few players in
nearly a thousand yards going into week eight. When you
talk to defensive players, what's the game plan slowing him down?
Because if not only is he a threat coming off
of a one and twenty nine yard performance against Atlanta
on the ground, but he also is averaging ten point

(02:51):
three yards per cats through the year.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Yeah, there was an interesting conversation yesterday with Jalen Petree
and he talks about the elusiveness the productivity of McCaffrey
and he said, hey, he can't make all eleven guys miss.
So you know, he used the word swarm. He's sounded
like to Miko and he's, you know, talking about everybody
running the ball. And he's right. If you know, if
you do get five six guys, a lot of up

(03:15):
eleven if that's realistic with the why they're deployed. But
if a lot of guys running the ball and you
gang tackle. He's not like a big back. What he
does is he makes people miss. He's got enough power
to truck a few guys. But you know, he's about
two undred pounds, he's got steed, he's got a great
contact balance. But yes, he is tackleable. I mean, there's

(03:35):
been up a word there, but you can tackle them.
It's not like he's never been tackled. He's coming off
of a great game and he's an outstanding player of
all the respective world for him. But I think they
can contain Christian McCaffrey. We'll see if I'm wrong with it.
Wouldn't surprise me if they were able to stay with him.
I worry about them and coverage. That's where I'm concerned.

(03:56):
It's not about stopping him when he's you know, handled
the ball conventionally. It's out of the backfield stuff because
let's be honest, none of these linebackers are really that
great in pass coverage. I'm feel more comfortable with Jalen
Teetree buying him than doing something else with this. And
then you got to worry about George Kittle and Kyle Ustcheck.
So they're not without weapons even though they don't have,

(04:19):
like in that elite wide receiver kennyck Bourne. You'll make
some things happen. And you got to get McCaffrey on
the ground. You got to tackle them, and they've been
a poor tackling team. The stats tell you in terms
of mistackles for a lot of the season tackleable.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
I like that. And Aaron is a guy who creates
words all the time. I'll allow it.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
So well, thank you, I appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
We'll add it to the notepad on the side of
the refrigerator. It is allowed again. Aaron Wilson are seven
ninety Texans Insider also does work with KPRC too. You
can find them on Twitter at Aaron Wilson Underscore NFL.
Speaking of that, I mean you mentioned, you know, Kittle
comes back last night, they got use check. I mean,
they will go a little bit more heavy on the line,

(05:03):
especially for McCaffrey. But it's just in general this week.
I mean having Kittle back, I mean, how much of
an issue can that provide for this defense? But also too,
on the positive side with the defense, do you feel
like they unlocked something last week with being able to
cause as many turnovers as they did.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
You know, they tend to come in bunches, right, they
talk about that being contagious. I think they've got something
going there with how they find the ball and being
opportunistic with will Anderson Junior being the bell cow of
that obviously. But you know, you look at your first
question about Kittle. He adds energy and he adds some
real muscle to their running game. At He's someone that

(05:42):
can get guys blocked, including bigger defensive ends. We've seen
him do that before and just this past game, Daniel
Hunter got locked up by Eric Staubert, not a big
household name obviously, but played physical against him and at
worked so very very quiet game of his best games
by you know, normally excellent Neil Hunter. So yeah, if

(06:04):
sal Bet can block him, maybe Kittle come block him.
I think they could do some things like that. Of course,
they have Trent Williams, who is local guy living in
the Paarland area and as tough as they come and
as big as offensive tackle as you want to see
out there. So yeah, the forty nine ers, this offense.

(06:25):
Max Jones is running it well. Tough guy, pretty gritty
back there, makes good decisions. It looks like he's always
in the verge of, you know, having to leave the
game and he takes a hit, but somehow he gets up,
limps back to the huddle and does it again. He's
been great for them four and one without brock Purty.
So I look at the forty nine ers and how

(06:46):
well coached they are, and there are a lot of
tough factors for the Texans who don't look like a
very smoothly running outfit. And there's some contradictions between me
what the coaches are saying they're telling the guys to do,
and what the players are actually doing in terms of
that executing that's been a hot topic around inn RG
this week obviously for the media, because there seems to

(07:08):
be some sort of disconnect between the coaches saying, Hey,
this is what we told them to do and then
they didn't do it, which to me is sort of
an indictment of the coaching and of the player if
you think about it. So they're not listening to you,
or they're not you know, you're not teaching them, or
they're not absorbing it. So there's there's other problems besides
the forty nine ers personnel. I mean, there's the Textans
guy got to get on the same page with some
things too, Aaron.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
When you look though, this is a forty nine Ers
team that sins at five and two, but it's coached
by Kyle Shane Han offensively some of Demiko Ryans knows
very well. And then Robert staalaz Back is the defense coordinator,
the guy who Demiko Ryans took over for when he's
got the Jets job, having that knowledge and familiarity with
what was being run and how much has been very
much still the same since his tenure out in San Francisco.

(07:52):
Are there some advantages that you think that Demiico Ryans
has for game planning to be able to slow down
Mac Jones.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
And then on the.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
Offensive side, there's enough that CJ. Stroud and the company
are seeing in practice going up against Amico's defense to
where it may not end up being a win, or
it may not end up being a complete blowout, but
it is enough to make this a rock fight going
into the fourth quarter.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Yeah. No, I think that's a great insight because both
teams they know a lot about each other in terms
of Okay, look at the scheme what they run and
look at Dinko's defense. So there's gonna be a familiarity
factor for the forty nine ers just seeing the Robert
solid defense all the time and then practicing against you know,
Tamiico does have a few wrinkles, but it's you know,

(08:35):
it is that it's the defense he was taught so
that they run that and it's a great defense. It's
a scheme that works. It worked very well. You know.
To just counterpoint this when Salid brought that defense to
the Jets, look at how they played against CJ. Stroud.
Look at you know, even after he was fired, they're
obviously still running the same system and that Jets loss,

(08:56):
that the Texans had last year when they didn't have Stibular,
they were missing personnel wide receiver, you know, Stefan Diggs
and those out for the year. You're having you know,
some injury issues there. Now you're having injury issues again.
So I think there's a lot of parallels here. Perhaps

(09:16):
it stays close just because of the Texans defense and
it's just hard for anyone to score on them, regardless
of the appointment. I mean, that was a good Seattle
offense and look at them, they're just giving the ball
away to the Texans. I think that there's a chance
this is a close defensive football game. If the Texans
play very sound assignment football. What they can't do, they

(09:39):
cannot turn the ball over. I know the forty nine
ers are banged up. I think that can help the Texans.
And there's a lot of injuries. We'll see if anybody
shows up today. But you know, we're seeing their injury
report and we're not seeing Bryce Huff practicing. We're not
seeing Ricky Piersall practice. They we're seeing a lot of
key guys that they're missing. For some reason. With the
forty nine ers, they seem to have a great X

(10:00):
man up system. Not everybody has that kind of success
with the backups.

Speaker 1 (10:04):
Aaron gets you out the door on this Texans on Sunday.
Is it a must win?

Speaker 2 (10:10):
I mean they all are now. I mean you're two
and four, you're just fighting for relevance. I don't think
the playoffs is very realistic at this point. Obviously there's
enough football games left for them to climb back into
the race. But the Cults are running away with this thing.
The Jaguars are ahead of them. Is there a lot
of confidence based on the Seattle game? That and you know,
the one was only beaten to junior varsity opponents and

(10:31):
the Ravens and the Titans. I think that everyone. It's
not like everybody thought, oh they're gonna win Seattle, but
we learned something and Lima's tests they failed it that
they couldn't beat Seattle, and really it should have been
a blowout if not for you know, Seattle give away
some gifts. I look at it all and I think
must win. I mean, yeah, they're fighting for their season,

(10:53):
they're kind of fighting for their lives out there, But
what are you fighting for? Are you gonna be a
five hundred team? At this point? I think a lot
of people would be prize that they're going to be
five hundred based on the way they play, unless they
just catch fire and start improving and the certain things
starts to click. But right now, the way they're playing,
it's very hard for me to project a ton of
victories for this team against the good opponents, the forty

(11:16):
nine Ers, the Broncos, the Buffalo Bills. They're playing a
great schedule of teams going forward. There aren't a lot
of games against teams like Tennessee that are left over.
I mean, look at the Chargers. They look for the
Chargers with the Chargers, but they did last night against
the Vikings. I think it's tough sledding for this team.
I think everybody's going to be very realistic about where

(11:38):
this team stands. They've got a good defense, they don't
have a good offense.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
Hard to argue with that logic. Again, Aaron Wilson are
seven to ninety eight Sections Insider and also KPRC two.
You can find them on Twitter at Aaron Wilson. Yeah,
just wanting, yeah, yeah, go for it.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
I'm also, like many of us, I'm on YouTube and
having some fun over there as well. At a Wilson
Aaron Wilson support rather, let's give you my email address.
But yeah, I'm doing that as well. We're up to
about eighteen thousand, five hundred subscribers, so I'm I'm looking
to supplement it all I can doing the YouTube too,

(12:17):
But I'm having fun over there.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
I mean, Aaron, I just I can't wait to see
what that business card looks like, because you're never not working.
You're you're like what You're like what Troy Paulamal who
says in the Head and Shoulders commercials.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
I love those head and Shoulders commercials. I love covering
him a lot of great football games. There are all
these debates, who's better, Troth Palamalu ed Reed. I'd watched
those all the time. That was a lot of fun
for sure.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
Again, he's Aaron Wilson. Find him on Twitter at Aaron
Wilson Underscore NFL. Aaron, you're the best. We'll see you
Sunday up in the box and we'll catch up with
you again next week.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
