Speaker 1 (00:00):
It start to our nine o'clock hour here. We bring
them on every single week our Texans Insider here at
Sports Talk seven ninety also with kPr C two. He
is Aaron Wilson. Aaron, let's just go ahead and get
it started. I think we knew, even without Tamika Ryan
saying it yesterday, there would be no CJ.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Stroud.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
But Thursday comes quickly right after this one. Are we
possibly looking at three straight weeks without number seven?

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Yes, it's possible because there's a small window. He's got
to have no symptoms by Monday at the latest, So
it's nothing they're going to rush. It's obviously, you know,
it's a serious thing. It's a brain injury. When you
have a concussion. That's literally what it means. You're suffered,
you know, of head injury, and you have to have

(00:45):
obviously your cognitive health, your long term brain health. That's
much more important than any football game, especially with what's
happened with CTE, concussion litigation, all those things. So he
had a sensitivity light as recently as the Friday before
the last game. So then this week he's experienced headaches

(01:09):
and I'm totally he's getting better every day. But he
hasn't been you know, and same thing with Jalen Petrie
to a point where they can practice. So that's just
the first thing. Until they can practice and they have
no symptoms, there is no decision because it's not even
like overresting him or giving him extra time. They're not
at that point yet. So it's kind of a mood
point in the sense of you don't even have any

(01:31):
options right now. It has to be Davis Mills.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Right now, Aaron, we know that you're not going to
see MJ. Sewer for the rest of the year. He's
out with the quad injury. No Jalen Petrie this week.
What is the long term plan though? With the stateety position?
I know what they want to get more reps for
Jalen Reed, but they have Miles Bryant. They signed him
to the active roster. He could play everywhere on the field.
Do you have a sense that this is kind of
a weekend against Tennessee where we could figure out who

(01:55):
is viewed as the long term option for the rest
of this year to play in the back end of
the second.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Right, They're in an evaluation mode, So until they start
giving Jalen Reed, who was promising in training camp with
some pick sixes and some hard hits. Until he gets
out there we see, you know, even though they did
draft him late, he was the second team all day
than he runs a four to four. He's a pretty
big in terms of weight. You know, he's a two

(02:22):
hundred and ten pound guy, not a tall but you
know he's a hitter. Until we see him, we don't know.
They might have something there. They just haven't really given
him that opportunity. He's just played special teams since he's
been activated from a knee injury. Miles Wind, I don't
think is the long term answer. You know, he'll be
given an opportunity. He's gonna play heavily. Nickel, I think

(02:43):
he'll play some safety. Jalen Mills is probably gonna be elevated,
who's a former starter for the Patriots and the Eagles,
So I think he'll get a shot here and they'll
use both those guys kind of interchangeable bit. But yeah,
as far as the rest of the season, sure, it's
an audition, but I think there's a good chance next

(03:04):
year's safety playing next to Calem Mullocks pubbing down on
the roster. Yet it's a bad quadriceps tear MJ was
just the emergency feeling. He was playing really well in
terms of stepping in for you know, but yeah, there
was a way out there. CJ. Garner Johnson CD Deuce
who's playing his own defense. He's playing pretty well the Bears.

(03:24):
What him do what he wants. He's got three sacks.
Maybe he was onto something, But yeah, I think the
answer is waiting to see evaluate these guys and then
maybe it's a free agent, maybe it's a draft.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Aaron Wilson, again our seven to ninety insider for the Texans,
also with KPRC two, join us here for his weekly visits.
Let's get to the positive side on the injury side,
where you got ed Ingram back on the practice field
this week. Titus Howard the same deal there. Also, Trent
Brown's ankle was not enough to keep him off the

(03:59):
practice fields. So if you had to guess what the
starting five will look like on Sunday on the offensive line,
what would be your guests?

Speaker 2 (04:07):
I would go with Titus Howard, who cleared the concussion protocol,
actually had gnause and a lot of problems, but it's okay.
Now he's the right tackle. He should play right tackle.
He shouldn't be moved around. I think that was kind
of a fan thing more than anything, talking about let's
play Trent, let's put him at left guard. I don't
think it's a good idea. I think an Ingram will

(04:29):
be the right guard. He's made a pretty good comeback
from this knee injury. It's just a sprain. It wasn't
like a high grade sprain. Jake Candrew's course at the center,
Jared Patterson left guard, and Arion Jstree, the rookie he
is improving, is your left tackle. So yeah, I think
that's their best five that they can put out there.
I know Trent had a solid game, and yes, his

(04:50):
X rays were negative, and to his credit, he went
from hobbling around pretty badly. I think he'd made a
walking boot to practicing every day this week. He's tough,
but yeah, his mobility is limited. He's you know, six
a' he's probably overstree and eighty pounds. I think it's
tough to put him out there. I know that he
had one game, but there was also a lot of

(05:11):
diving around on the field and then things like that,
and he didn't look super you know, clean out there
to me, So I think you go with your best guys,
and you know he's a backup. His Pro Bowl days
are a long time ago. Same thing like Laken Tomlinson
has been benched one Pro Bowl long time ago. So yeah,
go with the current best and youngest guys you can

(05:32):
put out there that are healthy again. They'll let them
play Aaron.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
It feels like that there's not enough juice around this game,
naturally because of one team comes in at one and
eight and a fired head coach. They're looking forward to
twenty twenty six. But in a standpoint of it feels
like that the Texans, so long as they don't shoot
themselves in the foot and quite literally loose themselves, are
going to win this football game. When you look at
that standpoint, what are some things that from the bigger

(05:56):
pitcher or from the overall view set going into your
final seven games with matchups against Los Angeles and with
Indianapolis twice and Kansas City and Buffalo, what are some
things that you want to see in this game that
gives us a sense of confidence that the Texans have
turned the corner they're sitting at five and five, because
that they could end up being one of these teams
that makes a run of the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
I'll start with Nick Hayley the play calling. He showed
a little more creativity and a he wasn't stubborn. He
didn't obviously we've been watching him just try to move
guys in terms of the offensive line and just these
straight ahead running plays that weren't working. Okay, so do
something different, motion away and then pitch to what he marks.

(06:39):
This reminded me of some of his red zone work
against the Ravens, like the Jalen Nole in this direction play,
and you know when you think, hey, there's some hope
to this guy. He can change and he's not just
like you know, annoying the robot. Okay, I thought that
was good. That's a step in the right direction. Acknowledging
some of your shortcomings for pass protection and having quick

(07:00):
hitting plays and also Davis Mills continuing to not hold
the football and get the ball out. That's a big
thing for them. They also, you know, they need to
continue to not give up big plays on defense in
terms of tackling, in terms of any covers lapses. They've
got to keep communicating well and keep rushing the passer.

(07:22):
They can do a lot of those things, run the
football effectively enough to be them honest, And the Texans
are a pretty solid team. Yes, they're a lopside of team.
We know about the money and the talent that's been
devoted to the defense and the lack of resources on offense.
But you know, the Jaguars are a decent team with
a winning record, and they made the Jaguars look pretty bad.
They never blocked Derrick Armstead. I understand that they'll have

(07:45):
problems probably most of the year against really good interior alignment,
just like they did against Denver, just like they did
against Seattle. But if you understand that, you know, just
try to run twenty one dive, then I think you've
got a fighting chance. And just like that boxer they
showed the video of the Danny Williams with the one

(08:06):
arm knocking the guy out, Texas have a puncher's chance.
And if they continue those things, I'll feel a little
more comfortable that, Okay, we're going to know something about
this team that they can be in the wild card mix.
I have no idea if they can win a playoff game.
It doesn't seem like a team that will be a
good matchup, But we're going to know in the next month.

(08:28):
They win this game, they're on deck at five and five,
and then we're going to see how they can do
against some really tough games with Buffalo in the Kansas City,
and I think we'll have a really good feel for
it in the next four weeks.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
Get you out the door on this one again. Aaron Wilson,
our Sports Talk seven ninety Texans insider. As well as
work he does with KPRC two, you mentioned about rushing
the passer. We saw danil Hunter have a great week
last week. Willie Anderson Junior doing some good stuff too.
Are they teed up to be able to do I
have a really good Sunday both of those guys.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
Yeah, they can. And you look at Tennessee, they're not
a team that has like lights out offensive tackles. They've
got they've been drafting and they've got some people, but
it's not you know, cam Ward is on pace to
be sacked a very high amount of times. The numbers
in front of me, but it's a lot, and he
looks like he's a man under siege back there. He's

(09:25):
a tough kid, but yeah, they're not helping him enough,
and he's back there getting sacked quite a bit and
hit a lot, and I think that Nextans are more
than capable of being a first. They're kind of in
a zone right now the way they're getting off the football,
and I see a continuation. Maybe not five sacks, but
I'm sure he'll be sacked at least three times.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
It's gonna be fun to see, that's for sure. Aaron Wilson,
I know, will be boots on the ground there in
a Tennessee for the weekend, so we appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
Buddy.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
It's always great to be able to catch up with you,
and we'll do it again next Friday.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
Thanks guys, great talking to you.
