(00:01):
This is the Dog Pike Show, brought to you by American Shooting Centers Guns
Shooting at Instruction since nineteen eighty nine. Now here's Doug Pike. Nobody probably
nobody, Melbourn. Nobody really knewthat I forgot my headphone, did they.
I gotta start working out. Igot to do like twenty yard sprints,
(00:23):
twenty yards over there, twenty yardsto get back, and then it'll
be okay. And this thing, somebody's been messing with this in here again.
Let me see there we go.Now it's working. There was a
big calamity, well was it twoor three months ago before you got here,
Melvin, where I couldn't get theheadphones to work and it was driving
me crazy. And we finally figuredit out. There's just one little button
(00:46):
that wasn't being pushed. I needto take a couple of deep breaths.
Breathe in, breathe out. OhMercy, such a feeble old man.
I'm becoming. It's a good thing. I've got fish to catch and golf
balls to hit, play some prettygood golf on Monday actually with and the
reason I think it went so wellpersonally it felt pretty good. Now I
(01:10):
made some bad shots. The coursewas wet and yucky. Oh goodness,
I'm out of breath. It's apretty good run from where I am when
you're under pressure, and I didn'tslow down, So now I know what
kind of a wimp I am inany event, Yeah, it went very
well. It was over at RoyalOaks Country Club. My friend Joe says
(01:32):
Arado, asked me to join himand his wife and one of her friends
for a charity event, and itwas a lot of fun and we just
from jump we knew we weren't goingto be anywhere near the top of the
pack, and it was going tobe all we could do to be in
the middle of the pack, andso we just got out there and had
fun and just relaxed and took ourtime and didn't slow anybody down. Eighteen
(02:00):
hole scrambles with mulligans with cart pathonly are going to take time, and
we all just kind of conceded thatas well and just sat back and enjoyed
the ride. It was almost afive and a half hour round, which
is not my favorite. But thefortunate part about this one was always in
good company and we all had agood time. Seven one three, two
(02:22):
one two five seven ninety Email meDougpike at iHeartMedia dot com. I've got
a well, I've got two pagesactually of stuff I want to talk about
today, and I'm honestly uh wellthat we're gonna start with tomorrow being Mother's
Day, and I don't want toneglect that at all. If you haven't
made plans yet, you better start. Uh. My wife has has gone
(02:44):
into I'll just buy something myself formyself mode. Uh. She did that
for her birthday a while back, and she did that for Mother's Day.
And I have no problem with thatat all because she as she's got most
of what she could, most ofwhat she wants or needs, I think.
And so if I try, ormy son tries to go out and
(03:07):
buy something at a store and crossour fingers and hold our breath, sometimes
we don't exactly get it right, and that just generates another trip. It's
so much, so much more somuch. It's not easier. It's frustrating.
I love buying gifts for people,but someone who's and I can't blame
(03:30):
her because I'm the same way.She has a hard time buying for me
because I have very specific wants orneeds at my age, I've got so
much fishing tackle. There's no reasonthinking about that. I've got all the
honting equipment I need. There's noreason thinking about that. And not at
(03:50):
I'm not a clothes horse. I'mnot trying to win cover of GQ.
So I just just humbly put onwhat I got close to me and go
to work and go home and takea nap and whatever. Let me get
to the outdoors, shall I?And by the way, for some of
you younger guys in the audience, unless mom specifically asks for something outdoors related
(04:19):
and gives you a specific brand andmodel, don't try to here's the deal,
don't try to buy her any ofthat. For Mother's Day when I
was little, for my sister's birthday, she's two years younger than me,
almost two years, and we weredown on vacation at my grandparents' house in
(04:41):
southeast Florida, just a little northof Lauderdale. They live on the water.
I fish all day long when I'mdown there as a little kid.
She hangs out with mom and grandmotherand they go shopping, and they go
to the beach and they do allthese other things. I'm fishing either with
my dad or my grandfather or buymyself on one of the piers or in
their back guard. And for herbirthday I bought her roden reel Zebco two
(05:05):
o two that I convinced myself eventhat she might take up fishing if she
had her own rod and reel, and she didn't, and I did.
I don't think she used it evenonce, but it didn't go unused for
long. Probably in hindsight, Iprobably still owe her for that lame move,
(05:28):
and it was it was. Itwas the move of an eight year
old or a nine year old, however old I was. There was a
little part of me that thought Icould get my little sister to fish with
me if she had her own rodand reel, which she didn't at that
time. She could have used mygrandfather's gear, she could have used my
gear. It wouldn't have mattered. But the truth was she didn't like to
fish. My wife liked to fishup until we got married. That was
(05:51):
an interesting transition. We fished hmwell. The farthest we went was a
trip to massat Lawn, which waspretty awesome. She caught her first and
only tuna, first and only sailfish. It's either sailfish or strike marlin.
I can't remember exactly which, butshe she earned her offshore spurs, if
(06:13):
you will. And then once wegot married, it was kind of like,
yeah, you go, you goahead, I'll stay here. And
she was busy at the time. She had a career going and was moving
and shaking and moving up the ladderthrough a pretty big local company here.
And so I don't blame her forthat. It wasn't her thing, and
(06:35):
that's okay. She doesn't mind medoing it, and thank goodness, because
it's part of what I do forwork. I've been able to say that
for the better part of what thirtyfive almost forty years now, I've been
able to say, but I haveto go fishing, it's my job.
But I have to go play golf, it's my job. And I almost
(06:59):
I have to pinch myself almost everytime I say that salinity in Galveston Bay,
well, there is really none. Not Galveston Bay, not Trinity Bay,
not East Bay. They are stillfloating around zero. I checked the
chart this morning and it's dark blue. Is zero salinity on this chart?
(07:24):
And I mentioned that, let mesee if I can find and find it
real quick and I can give youthe exact way to go get it.
The way to go find it isto just type in Galveston Bay salinity levels
and then search that and somewhere inthere you will hold on, why is
(07:45):
this that way? I'm not onthe right thing, Yes, I am.
I've got to go way over here, though. Let me find there
it is. It pops up aso f s. Let me see,
yeah, ofs map plots and it'ssomething that's at the Noah Site, National
Oceanic Atmospheric Administration under tides and currents, and it's just a little looping animation
(08:11):
of you can actually see how thesalinity changes right at the jetties in little
teeny tiny ways up into the shipchannel when the tide comes in, and
then when the tide is out orflaw, it's either flowing out or at
full dead low. There's not anysalt water inside the jetties, virtually zero.
(08:33):
It's going to a low right now. Let me see, Yeah,
there is zero saltwater basically inside thejetties except for the extreme southwestern edge of
the bay system moving up toward Houston, and then there's a little bit of
salt in West Bay and by little, I mean very little, and then
(08:54):
you have to go all the waypretty much to said Luis Pass to find
the colors that are comfortable and healthyfor trout and redfish and all those things.
The red fish, redfish can livein a bucket of damp sawdust,
but the trout are a little moredelicate, and there's not enough salt to
hold them in East Bay, inGalason Bay, or in Trinity Bay.
(09:18):
Right now, Trinity Bay is justa total washout, and yeah, pretty
much so is East Bay. They'reall gone for now. They'll be back,
though, they will be back.I've got that taken care of,
got that taken care of. Oh, Melvin, I've got this information here
for you. By the way,you had asked, or we had talked
(09:39):
a little bit about the catfish stockings. You are familiar, I presume with
that little park in Missouri City wherethere are a bunch of soccer fields and
then one little small lake right inthe middle of that. Yes, I
am. That's one of the placesthat gets stocked I think every two weeks
with catfish. So time to takethe kids out fair enough, and I'll
(10:01):
give you I'll show you this releaseand you know where the lake is and
I can even die you down intowhere to fish and how to fish it.
And that's gonna be fun. Withsummertime coming, these kids are going
to get out of school and withintwo or three days they're gonna be bored,
silly. They're not going to knowwhat to do with themselves, and
(10:22):
it's a good time to connect. How old did you say? What are
you dealing with? The kids? Is? Twelve years old? A twelve
year old daughter? Correct? Littleboy? God, leave, My memory
is going. I'm so sorry, that's not that's all me and I apologize.
So you had a twelve year oldboy, that's perfect. To get
him out there, you're gonna havea good hour of attention span from him,
(10:46):
so and maybe even a little bitmore. Bring one of his friends
and bring that guy's dad if y'allwant to sit there and have a cool
one while you're watching these corks orwhatever. But just make it a fun,
relatively short experience the first time. And you live pretty close to that
lake, I'm about maybe maybe aboutsix blocks away. All the six blocks,
(11:11):
holy cow. Yeah, you couldgo over there and chum an area
heavily and then wait about thirty minutesto take your son back over there,
and the fish would already be therewhen you get there, and he'd think
you were just the best fishermen inthe world, because as soon as you
throw that line in there with thatbait, the cork's gonna go down.
Man. Yeah, they when theystock those fishing there, it's pretty easy.
(11:33):
I'm not gonna say it's just everytwo seconds you catch a fish.
But if you hang out there thirtyforty five minutes, you'll catch enough to
make it worth your while. Andsome days we'll be better than others.
There are a lot of small sunfishin that lake too, and there are
I think four I counted on themap four sites around Houston where they get
(11:56):
these twice a month's stockings of cats. One of them is is out in
Katie. I can't even think ofthe name. Mary Joe Peckham Park,
I believe is where they do itin Katie. And then I can't recall
where the other two are, butI fished both of those two. I'm
the one we're talking about in MissouriCity. My son and I were over
there probably once a week now whenwhen he was little like that, and
(12:18):
it's fun get him to heal,Bring a soccer ball, bring a football,
whatever it is that they like tokick around or throw around. So
until you get a bite, atleast they got something to do, and
you can just gently bring them intothe outdoors and there's a room to run
around. You've seen that park, you know where I'm talking about. Seven
one three, two one two fiveseven ninety Email me Doug Pike at iHeartMedia
(12:43):
dot com. Not even barely startedon the list, by the way.
At nine o'clock, I've mentioned beforethat we have a live golf event coming
up. We have a live golfevent coming up to a golf course near
you if you live near Golf Clubof Houston, U six and seven.
And at the top of the hour, in the nine the third hour,
(13:03):
nine o'clock, I'm gonna bring ina guy named Troy Tutt, who is
the Let me get his title, official title. Make sure I get it
right for him, because he's prettyhigh up there. He is the senior
vice president for Live of Ticketing andHospitality. And what I'm gonna get him
to do is is kind of explainthe format, Explain the scoring, explain
(13:26):
the team concept, all of thatwhich has been confusing a whole lot of
people for a very long time. We're gonna take a little break here.
On the way out, I'll tellyou about Belleville Meat Market, about fifteen
minutes north to Sealy, fifteen minutessouth of Hempstead on Highway thirty six.
Very easy to get to, andonce you get there, what you will
find is delicious meat products. Youwill find appetizers, cheeses, spices,
(13:50):
a delicious lunch or dinner, dependingon what time of day you arrive.
They have two dozen plus flavors ofpremium pecan smoke sausage. They have beef,
chicken, and pork cut however youwant sausage, jerky, dry stick,
all of these delicious meat products.Like I said, and all you
have to do is get there.Well, you don't even have to get
(14:13):
there, really, they will shipmost everything they offer right straight to your
door. If it needs to staycold, it'll stay cold all the way
to your door. The fun partfor a family is to drive out there
and along the way think about allthe things you want to bring home to
eat for the next couple of weeks. From Belleville Meat Market, you get
there, you hand the order offto somebody in there, and then you
(14:33):
go order yourself some lunch or dinnerand go sit out on the patio and
eat it, and come back inpick up your boxes to take home,
and it turns into a very productive, wonderful day for the entire family.
Forty two plus years while game processingyear round. By the way, did
I mention that anything you can harvestlegally and drag over there, they'll take
(14:54):
care of that for you. Fortytwo years it says here serving the greater
Houston community. I insist on changingthat to southeast Texas and half the Hill
Country because I know people now fromfarther and farther away who have heard enough
times about Bellville Meat Market that theyjust had to go try it, and
then they had to go back andgo back and go back. Belleville MeetMarket
(15:15):
dot com is a website, BellevilleMeetMarket dot com. I'm send an email
to somebody real quickly if I canfind him there. This girl said them,
he's trying to send me emails andthey're not coming through. I'm just
gonna send him a quick little testto see what happens. Okay, it's
on its way, Rick, Let'ssee what happens. Oh, that's him
on the phone right there. Youcan just punch him straight up, Melvin.
(15:37):
I know who that is. I'mgonna catch him. Ready, he
set You got to set it whereI can get him. Oh is he
Rick? Rick? Come in Tokyo? Hello there, here we get Now
we're going come on, try again? I oh man, what's going on
(16:00):
with him? Rick? Something's goingon? Oh? Finally there we go,
Melvin, Melvin, Melvin, scareyou? You can't email me,
and now you can't talk to me. Well of email you earlier. Yeah,
(16:22):
so outside, Well it ain't gonnawork. I'll just call him not
as well. I'll sent you atest, by the way, check that
later. What's up? Okay,Well, I want to talk to you
about photography and sunrises. I'm settingup a deals like I have already have
some customer clients. That's all theywanted sunrise pictures. Okay, short day
(16:47):
and uh se well right, Butbut my point is is, uh I
know where the shots are at.I know where the hills are. Yeah.
I think people that are going todo the sunrise the worst thing you
want is a bluebird sky. Iagree with that. You want some clouds
(17:11):
because I look at it this waythe shot that you want. The subject,
the real subject is not the sunrise itself, it's everything between the
person taking the photo in the horizon. Yeah, the sun itself just kind
of sets it all up. Thislittle picture of big ol' orange ball.
(17:36):
Yeah, I can get that.I could just get a basketball and hang
it off in front of a bluesheet and there you go. Now,
the other thing what I'm doing isI'm putting together a map because it's got
to all be timed. And forexample, the official sunrise in Wall,
Texas and the Love Struck stop rightnow is, uh six thirty one am.
(18:03):
Now two ninety generally runs northwest fromhere to Austin's And so I have
figured it out that every about fortyfive miles maybe fifty, you lose two
minutes. For example, today ChapelHill, it was six thirty three.
(18:23):
Sure, and if you if youflip that over and at six thirty five,
sunrise was being giddings. Okay,Now what I'm doing. I have
so many places that are if youwant to take one shot, two shots
and go and jump another angle, another background, the windmill of the lake,
(18:47):
the river, whatever. Uh,we can cover a lot more ground
if you want to sit there andwork this when really over and you want
to spend once we get there, get stopped and get set up. What
you're gonna do. Got to toturn being in a hurry is for the
big difference what we're doing here ina hurry and being fast. See yeah,
(19:08):
sure everybody who's getting hurry, butnot anybody can be fast, right,
And so you got to keep thatin mind because what we want is
the maximum shots that from different locationsthat's possible, right, Well, I
mapple that where I might can getyou know, in five minutes. Well
(19:30):
for one minute, I might getjumping run, jumping run, maybe get
six really good ankles and then jumpover. You know, it might take
ten minutes and then I've got fiveor six more cloud cover. We'll just
all wrap it up this one.Today, yesterday was the absolute perfect sunrise
(19:52):
Pitcher day. No wind, thesky cooperated beautifully, the sun did.
Everything was perfect, and today itwas working on it. It got real
close. But see today, ifthat sun would have jumped a little bit,
or the clouds would have, wewould have had another perfect day.
(20:18):
Because I'm over here on the lowbank side of the Brass and I'm shooting
to the east, which would bethe east bank of the Brass and there's
so much shot of the river intosomething within three hundred George. You know,
the sun, the background, thewoods, the water, the sandbars.
(20:41):
Absolutely perfect. Anyway, I'm puttingtogether this this map because I've got
some people that are in a clubat a college station and we've made an
arrangement before I'm gonna be their photoSafari Gay. So anyway, I'm learning
I find extremely interesting. And ifpeople would just sit still. If you
(21:03):
can't go hunting, you know, like with a gun, sure, get
a camera. There's more around you, right in front of you that you
don't even pay attention to. Tollyou get a camera and then you start
seeing a lot more what's around you. That's true. That's so very true,
it really is. You're exactly Yeah, man, all right, buddy,
thank you rick By. Yeah,he makes a lot of sense.
(21:26):
And there it takes a lot toget a really good picture. I know
that I've done it for a longtime and i've done I've quit doing it
professionally, but I have my phonewith me, and that phone is pretty
darn good. It's pretty darn good. And getting photographs, so I don't
(21:47):
mind just pulling it out of mypocket. And the thing that that some
of the shots I've gotten have beenpretty good, and the reason I get
them, especially things that have anyaction involved in them. In the sunrise
technically has action. It's just realslow because it's ninety three million miles away,
but there is a little bit ofa sense of urgency. And if
(22:10):
you spend all of your time whenyou're trying to do this, if you
spend all of your time trying toadjust your camera and focus this and focus
that, you may miss the shot. What I've learned by shooting with this
phone of mine is the very firstthing I do if I see something that
(22:33):
really catches my eye for whatever reason, the first thing I do is just
pick the phone up and shoot twoor three pictures, just raw through the
lens. I'm not trying to zoomin. I'm not trying to zoom out.
It's just right now here. Yougo, get the picture. Now
I'll go from there. I startcry, or I start trying to draw
(22:56):
it in a little closer, maybewalk closer to my subject. It's a
lot better if you can to walktoward it and leave the camera kind of
wide open, rather than to startmagnifying it, because you're going to lose
resolution when you do. Get theshot first and then take it back,
go sit down somewhere and crop it, crop out all the garbage. I
(23:19):
got a really nice shot of ahawk, just in fully extended wings,
and this bird is only I'm shootingacross his back basically, and he's actually
about it eye level, and hiswings and tail and everything are just fully
extended. Beautiful shot. And inthe original there are a couple of power
(23:44):
lines I think there's one telephone poleor a pole for those lines to hang
on, and just stuff that didn'tbelong there, and it didn't help the
photograph at all. I got theshot, but if I had tried to
present it to anybody like that, there were just too many distractions. So
instead I cropped it down to theessentials, the parts I really wanted to
(24:06):
show, and suddenly it makes senseand it looks really cool. Now it's
not of high enough resolution that Icould blow it up and put it on
a billboard somewhere, but just forI used it as a screen shot on
my phone for a while or onmy laptop, and now I've switched out
actually to a sunrise shot that Igot down in El Campo last year,
(24:30):
and while three or four people werestanding on the back porch of the lodge
there at Wildlife Specialties, I tookoff running for an old dead tree in
a field, and I got thedead tree between me and the sunrise at
the pretty good angle I thought, and the sky absolutely cooperated. An amazing
(24:52):
sky. That's why everybody else wasstanding over there about forty yards from me
taking pictures because it was an amazingsky and that was enough to get your
attention, but it needed just thatlittle touch of something else to put some
perspective on it. And I feellike I captured it pretty well. I
think. I know I've posted thatpicture. I know I have, and
(25:17):
yeah, it's still one of myfavorites, my phone favorites. That's what
I'm gonna call these, Captain Scott, you and I, I know you
still are shooting with real cameras. If you're listening this morning, you're still
shooting with real cameras, and morepower to you, man. But I
think I'm gonna hand that baton toyou, and then you and I are
going to have to have phone favoritesthat we can share. I know you
(25:40):
know how to use that phone totake a picture, and I'm learning more
as I resigned myself to not havingto carry a giant camera bag anywhere anymore.
It's kind of nice, all right. I gotta take a break here
on the way out. Black HorseGolf Club up on Friar Road open ready
for you to go. If it'stime to take Mom somewhere to go play

You can't miss the place. There'sgolf course on both sides of the road

Melvin should be there in a second. Oh wow, let's see what Rudy.
(27:57):
Rudy just sent me something that caughtmy That's interesting, know that.
Okay, Yeah, I'll go backand look at that in a second.
I don't see anything with it.I'm not sure what. Yeah, there's
nothing to open, Rudy. Idon't know which set, Bud, but
I want to unless you're referencing thesunlight and the sunlight that I just showed
(28:19):
Melvin, that picture I was talkingabout from down in El Campo, and
yeah, I'm pretty happy with that. One seven one three two one two
five seven ninety. Email me DougPike at iHeartMedia dot com. Send me
a little more info, Rudy.I want to know what you're talking about.
And maybe I just miss something.I just yap and yap and yap
and yap and yap. Sometimes Isometimes I get emails that reference something I
(28:42):
said a few minutes ago, andI sometimes I don't remember. That's okay,
I am plotting a trip down southby the way, speaking of fishing.
Going back to that, I talkedto Cliff on Tuesday. Cliff Webb
and uh uh. He assured methat the surface picked up and that there's
some big stuff right now hanging outand not even sure. A lot of
(29:04):
mullet in the surf down there, and the little ones to the little finger
mullet that are like like cheetos,I guess to speckle trout. They can
eat dozens of those things, andI'm sure they do almost on a daily
basis this time of year. Heand my good buddy Mickey from down to
dal had a great trip earlier inthe week, and I'm really glad they
(29:26):
did. I called Mickey between inone of his breaks this morning on the
way in just to pat him onthe back and say, man, well
done. You know, I'm gladhe got down there. I'm glad he
got the the and actually what hedid he talked cliffs some stuff, and
that's that's kind of the way goodfishermen work with each other. You don't
(29:48):
keep secrets. You just teach eachother, and everybody gets better and everybody
catches more fish. That's kind ofwhat it's about. Everybody catches more,
but that doesn't mean everybody keeps more. Still dealing with the the new,
I'll wrap new in quotes. They'renot new anymore. I'm writing a column
right now for Texas Fishing Game aboutthe changed limits that took us down to
(30:12):
three fish, and I'm hoping thatthat's going to pump the brakes a little
bit and inadvertently reduce the number ofpeople out there catching medium to big sized
trout on croakers all summer long.I just can't imagine how, in this
(30:37):
economy, especially how it makes senseto spend the money for a guided fishing
trip for you and your buddy togo out and catch six trout or nine
if you throw in the guide trout. If you want to do that,
whether it's right or wrong, it'sjust not going to that up. And
(31:00):
I think that's going to really slowthat, which in turn saves all the
more fish. And I'm not gonnanot gonna go so far as to say
anybody should, anybody's bait should beoutlawed, because there was. There's been
a long time Tambourine banged about makingcroakers a sport fish, and I would
(31:25):
not be a I would not beagainst that, but nor do I want
to take away a reasonable way tocatch fish. There could be some sort
of limit. I don't know whatit would be. There have to be
some sort of regulation that made sensethat still enabled people to use crokers if
they if they really want to.Nobody has to use crokers for bait.
(31:52):
That's that's not out there. Nobodycan tell me that you have to have
crokers as bait. That's it's anoption that we allow now. But if
it was, if it was pulledoff the table, I don't think it
would stop real fishermen from going fishing. It certainly wouldn't bother me a bit.
I haven't strung a croker onto ahook in more than probably twelve or
(32:15):
fifteen years. It's been been aminute since I've done that, and I
have no desire to go do itagain. I did it a couple of
times when I was at the paper, and that was more than twelve years
ago. But that and that wasjust to write stories about it. Is
I didn't know much about about thetechniques and how people were doing that.
(32:36):
It's really not a whole lot differentthan it's live bait fishing. That's what
it is. And I'm not reallyknocking it because live bait makes the world
go around, that's for sure. The next live sardine or pilcher that I
put on a hook to try tocatch a big snook in Florida won't be
the first, that's for sure.I prefer to use lures, but boy,
(32:59):
you can't beat live bait for someof those bigger fish like that.
Seven one three two one two fiveseven ninety. Email me Dougpike at Iheartmeeting
dot iHeartMedia dot com. I'm thinkingabout meeting Cliff Webb and I can't even
get it out of my head afterwhat he told me is about to happen
down in that surf. It's it'slike putting a putting Melvin. You remember
(33:20):
Jiffy pop popcorn? Yes? Ido. So you know how you when
you put it on the stove andyou keep sitting there and just shaking it
and shaking it, and nothing's happening, and it's kernels are just banging around
in there, nothing happening, Andthen the foil starts to lift a little
bit and you keep shaking it andshaking, and all of a sudden,
there's pop pop. That's kind ofhow the trout fishing is starting in the
(33:45):
surf down there at Corpus right now. Not a lot of them yet,
nothing. This not just blowing upthe top of the the foil bag whatever
you want to call it, thedome. No, but man, it's
popping now, and they're big popsand there's a big fish in that surf.
And I don't want to look upthree months from now and feel like,
(34:07):
gosh, I missed that. NowI'm not doing that. Rudy sent
me a very cool story. Bythe way, Thank you for remembering Jiffy
Pop. That was a stretch foryou, probably, I know, and
you barely just better. Your grandparentstold you about it, didn't they.
God Well, Actually, my motherused to cook it on the stove,
so cool. It was fun tostand there and watch it, usually about
(34:30):
eyeball level with the stove, gotyour hands up there. Don't put them
on the hot part, though, you know, and all that way from
mom, and then the Jiffy Pop'sgoing and you know how good that's gonna
be. When they rip that foilopen. Oh my gosh, you reach
in there and the steam just meltsthe flesh off your fingertips. Holy cow.
So Rudy is sending me story aboutthe Northern lights visibility widening as the
(34:55):
geo magnetic warning increases Alabama and Texas, not down here on the Gulf Coast.
But apparently the Northern Lights have beenvisible all the way down to northern
Alabama to Texas and might even geta little bit farther down. Let's see
(35:22):
this week the sun unleashed. Ohgreat, No, I don't want to
do that. Put me back onthis story. Oh this is some The
tease is that it's a Chronicle Onlinestory that the headline says, will you
be able to see the Northern Lightsthis weekend in Houston? And it keeps
(35:43):
flashing me back off the page.I have a subscription, I just don't
have my stinking account number memorized,so it's not allowing me to read the
story. And I'm gonna have tohave a little phone call with them after
this to really kind of get somebody'sattention and fix it. But anyway,
yeah, apparently there's an outside chancethat certainly in Dallas or north of there,
(36:09):
the Northern Lights might be visible andacross much of North America, where
it's usually been kind of something thatCanadians and super Northerners in our country get
to see. I've actually seen themup in Canada on trips a couple of
trips up to Canada two to one. Two trips. I think at least
(36:30):
one good goose hunt, I know, and there may have been another one.
In any event, Yeah, theNorthern Lights are pretty cool, I'll
give it that. And if wecould see them here, that would make
them the Southern Lights then, wouldn'tit, because that's where we'd be,
right deep in the south. Astypically arrogant American would say, Yeah,
that's there. Now, they're theSouthern Lights because they're in the southern part
(36:53):
of the United States, never mindabout the Southern hemisphere. In any event,
there there's another story that I saw, and this is one that I
wanted to bring up for sure.Oh, we're late. When we get
back, Yeah, I'm gonna bringup something about wildlife in the wake of
these floods when we get back.On the way out, I'll tell you
about American shooting centers and all thatthey do. On the largest non military
(37:17):
shooting facility in Texas, they havefive stands setups all over the property.
They have ten I think it istrap and skeet fields. They have three
sporting clays courses that meander through thebrush out there within attics dam. They
have rifle and pistol. The pistolarea starts at five yards, that's your
(37:39):
home defense stuff, and then riflegoes all the way out to six hundred
yards, which is that's a prettygood distance to be throwing lead and actually
trying to hit targets. It's fascinatingto watch those guys shoot. If you're
not hitting your targets, you're notbreaking the clays. Get some lessons.
They have fully professional instructors out thereto teach any of the shooting disciplines and
(38:05):
make you a better shot, whichwill save you money in the long run,
especially if you're a bird hunter. No excuse for being the guy who's
super embarrassed after opening day of doveseason. Everybody else has got a limited
birds and a couple of shells leftover, and you've got seventy five holes
at your feet and one dove youshot out of a tree. That's not
(38:27):
the way to do dove season,is it. American Shootingcenters dot Com is
the website there on West Timer Parkwaybetween Katie and Highway six. American Shootingcenters
dot Com are Sportstock seven nineties HoustonSports where you go with an iHeartRadio.
Now now get more Doug Hi,welcome back Dougpike Show on Sports Talk seven

to ninety. Thank you very muchfor listening. Certainly, do appreciate it.
I have. Yes, I'm I'mgoing to answer this online question in
just a minute right now, though, I'm going to go talk to Allen
down in Corpus, and then I'mgoing to get to what I told you
I was going to talk about. But phone calls first. Here we go,
what's up Allen? Hey? Whowas that? Who was that on
(39:14):
theok come to come Back music?Well? That was it? I know
what Nelse says? Who was that? Melvin? Who was Remember thirty eight
special? There we go thirty eightSpecial? Okay, yeah, I love
that songs. I just remember theman very appropriate for this show too.
Only only I doubt that I doubtthat very many people still carry thirty eight
(39:35):
specials. Oh well I do.That's wow. Okay. Well, you
know I want something to me arevolvers, quick and easy, right,
That's true. That's a good pointconcerned anyway, because I'm a bad shot.
I need all that I get.I did close way, Okay.
If I if I had to livein the Western days, I'd just be
(39:55):
a storekeeper because that's the safest wayto live for me. Oh yeah,
I'm flashing back to drag Net.You're too young, that would be that's
me right there. Yeah, dragNet is my that's to me right there,
especially the one with uh uh DadEchoid and Tom Haks. Oh God,
really me, man? So what'sup? Man? What can I
(40:16):
do for you? Okay? SoI'm not in Corporus Christie, but I
want to go to corp So andI'm gonna wait in a couple of weeks.
So maybe you know today that Idie down. Yeah, let everything.
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. So, uh, did you know
(40:37):
what? What worked? I didn'tknow where to go. I just need
to get a map. Effect Buthere's the beach. Go here, you
know it's it's almost Oh yeah, you're gonna have to cross the big bridge.
You have to get on the beach. Okay, okay, and then
you know where you know where Snoopiesis? I can't remember where Snoopies is.
Man. I know I know whereto go. I know where to
(40:59):
go, but I don't know what'sbetween between the hotel and there, you
know? Okay, Okay, Sojust across the Big brid. I might
cross the Big Bridge, okay, because I know there's a marina across some
snoopies, but I don't know ifthere's if that's the beach area or what
that area right there is. Well, if you once you get onto the
(41:19):
beach, you can go left andyou can go to Packery Channel. You
can go right and you can goto the North Padre Island Seashore. Uh
Cliff was telling me that from Packeryback east and north they have roughly the
same the the opposite of what wedid to to roll over pass. What
(41:42):
they've done is they've opened up morepasses so that the water is just even
flowing more freely through there. Anda lot of that stuff's fairly new,
so even he hasn't had a chanceto explore it all. But when I
was down there, and I've goneon my own a couple of times when
he's been too busy, I meanhe'll jump in into a way with us
or something like that, or walkon a beach, but he likes that
(42:07):
North Padre and Seashore and the placeshe's looking for. You have to study
the water and maybe you and Icould swap a couple of emails this week
or something, and I can giveyou a little bit more information. But
what he's looking for and what he'sfound and knows how to walk right back
to until a storm comes is gutsin the sandbars where and that's ambush points,
(42:29):
you know, and some of thatstuff on a on a high tide.
You don't even have to get yourfeet wet to fish this stuff.
It's just it's fantastic. Yeah,you'll love it. I guarantee you're gonna
love it. I mean, I'mnot I'm not. I'm not completely stupid,
but sometimes when you go fishing,it makes you stupid. Well yeah,
dose you think, how why amI not catching? Everything's perfect but
(42:51):
me? Well even Cliff said hefished yesterday and walked the beach and didn't
do well. He pretty good.Everything was lined up a mullet and serve
or not not too big a wavesor anything, and it just didn't work
out. Sometimes they just don't eat. Here's here's my thinking. I will
I have a little bit. Ihave a little bit of teardrop camper,
(43:13):
uh huh, And you know morethan a little two man, that's a
fancy right. I'm just wondering canI pull that down the beach as I
fish? I think I hang outin there. I'll spend mine at a
hotel. I'm pretty sure you can. I see people doing it all the
time. I'd call down there andfind somebody who can tell you, or
just look it up online. That'swhat the internet's for these days, right,
(43:35):
look up the rules for camping onthe beach and bide by those rules.
Nobody's gonna stop you. And thatboy you talk about me first in
the water, you know, holycad. Oh man, I get well.
I mean, I'll play fish allnight. But when I do want
to take a little power. Now, if I got somewhere, I mean
I could land back in my truck. But no, Yeah, that's a
great idea. I think it's afantastic idea. He also fishes went when
(44:00):
you go into that uh well,he fishes the beach beyond back east from
Packery Channel. He fishes the beachas you go on to North Padre Island
Seashore. There there are bollards therewhere cars can't go, and then there's
the open area where cars can go. He fishes all of that, and
he's taken me to all his spots, most of them. He probably got
(44:22):
a couple of his pocket still. But nonetheless, I mean, I hear
y'all talk about these spots, andI'm thinking, you know, where are
they at? But I guess I'lljust look on the map and I'll find
it. Yeah, I think maybeif you can find the best thing to
to be, call Cliff. Justcall him. He's he I don't want
to, you know, if I'mnot going to hire him, don't want
(44:45):
to bother him. I can do, I can. I can tell you
more, but I'm pretty much outof time right now. So do me
a favorite, email me and youknow, get let's get an email thread
going back and forth, and Ican give you a lot more, a
lot more detail. Yeah, what'syour Emiligan Doug Pike at iHeartMedia dot com.
(45:06):
Oh that's something. Yeah, okay, Doug, I appreciate it.
I'll just put this as O oneor whatever. Yeah. Yeah, don't
don't catch them all down there whenyou go it's okay, real quick,
yeah, real quick. Let mesay this real quick. You know my
cousin he just got back from anAfrican safari hunt. Right, oh wow?
And uh, you know the onething he told me that I would
(45:27):
never would have never dreamed of that. Their main stayed down there, he
said, is giraffe, He said. Their girass is like our cattle.
He said, in its absolutely delicious. Wow, I said, isn't it?
Who I ever thought that? Iwould have never thought that. Holy
cow, No, you never know, you never know. Weird. Okay,
Thanks Doug, Yeah, thank you. Audio sound fun fact to know
(45:49):
and tell. I would have neverBoy, it'd be tough. Like if
you're doing one for Thanksgiving, yougot to stuff that neck in there,
You're gonna pull that thing out,be too, Just pull the neck out
of the thing. All right. We got to take a little break here
on the way out. I'll tellyou all about Carter's country, everything you
want to know about Carter's country, and especially with Mother's Day coming up,
(46:12):
you might want to think about doingsomething to help Mom feel a little safer
when she's out. I've got acouple of emails now actually about what handguns
people are carrying and whether that thirtyeight special something that they might want.
A little thirty two also is avery very concealable weapon. If you just
need to get something shut down veryquickly, talk it over see if she's
(46:32):
interested, See if she wants totake that step toward kind of next level
protection. If she's out doing stuffby herself a lot and maybe having to
go into parts of town that area little bit not safe, and it'd
be nice to have something so thatshe could have the confidence and get her
lessons too, if she's not beena shooter before, get lessons. Get
(46:55):
that concealed carry permit. At Carter'sCountry, they teach that course every other
weekend up there at the trash weekstore. Anything you need for shooting guns,
m O hunting stuff. That's whatCarter's Country's been doing and now concealed
carry, especially at this Mother's day, it's a it's not a bad thing
to think about, really from mom. Help her feel safer, Help you
(47:17):
feel safer when she's out and feelmore comfortable. Had a lot of anxiety
when you can't find your wife somewhereand you hope she's okay. That's tough.

by American Shooting Centers, Guns,Shooting and Instruction nineteen eighty nine. Now
here's Doug Pike, all right.Second hour starts now, Second Hour and
(48:07):
second cup of coffee. I readsomething yesterday about artificial sweeteners and how I
shouldn't be drinking them. So fora couple of days, I'm gonna lay
off. I'll probably get back homeat some point. All things in moderations.
The way I look at it,I'm trying really hard to moderate my
intake of all this weird stuff. But I think I want to feel like
(48:31):
a little bit of an artificial sweeteneris probably better for me than a bunch
of sugar, because I know sugar'snot gonna do me any favors at my
age. Brian sent me a picturefrom a picture that his sister took last
night while camping up in Goliad ofnorthern lights in a Texas sky. There's
(48:59):
a country song in there. Inthere, Melvin you back, northern lights
in the Texas sky and it knowingit doesn't mean we want to take on
the politics of the north either. So don't worry. If I write the
lyrics for that song, that's notwhere it's going. It'll be some sad
thing about a guy and his girlfriendand his pickup truck breaking down on the
(49:21):
way to take his mama to thehospital. What else? We gotta work
something else in there? Don't wea train? There's got to be a
train that slows them down somewhere, flat tire. Somebody's going to jail before
the song's over. She's gotta touchall the touch all the bases, man,
(49:43):
check all the boxes. Somebody donesomebody wrong again? In every is
there a country songwhere nobody did anybodyany wrong? I don't know. Seven
one three two one two five sevennine Email me, Doug Pike cad I
hurt me dot com. I wantedto talk a while ago. What was
(50:04):
it I was going to talk about? Oh? Yes, wildlife and how
much wildlife has been displaced by allthe flooding north of town here. Pretty
much we were very much spared onthe southern half below Eye ten. And
if you live south of I ten, count your blessings because the people up
(50:24):
north of us got hammered pretty hard, and that watershed still not finished.
I was looking at a little thepiece of Oyster Creek that runs closest to
my house, and the last timeI saw it doing what it's doing now
was with Harvey. And what it'sdoing and what it's been doing for about
(50:45):
a week is despite our minimal rain, Oyster Creek's coming up. And it's
not from not from runoff anywhere nearmy house. It's from runoff from North
Texas. And the brasses is sohigh. I'm gonna go check the level
of that, by the way, while I'm just sitting here. The brasses
(51:07):
is so high that it's kind ofbacking up into Oyster Creek, and it's
up pretty significantly. I was reallya little bit shocked. I wasn't stunned,
but I was a little bit shockedabout what was going on. Let's
go talk to Kevin. Kevin, what's up, buddy, man, I'm
up here. I just sent youan email picture of all the kids resting
(51:30):
for the good. Yes, sir, how's it going. Oh, it's
good. There's a good crowd rollingin here. They're already starting to line
up the banks of the dead endof the Old River. Here I dig
you the dog huh, getting readyto start fishing at nine o'clock. How's
everything with you this week? Sofar, so good man. When I
(51:51):
was just talking about the brasses backingup essentially into Oyster Creek because of all
the water, and I've driven overit a couple of times recently and noted
that. And I'm looking at theflood stage now at Richmond and it's just
it's just into minor so I'm notworried about it too much. And it's
gonna start going on down finally. But I think it was supposed to peak
(52:14):
either yesterday or today. Yeah,it's leveling off. It looks just like
a nice dome. And about twomore, uh, give it twenty four
hours, and it'll be on itsway out of here, Thank goodness.
I'm about tired of it myself. But that little little piece of Oyster Creek
just a day and a half agoor maybe a day ago, was almost
dry, not dry, but itwas. It was down in its normal
(52:36):
ho hum. There's a little bitof water there. I wonder if there's
a perch down there at that littledrain whatever. And this morning when I
drove over it. It was like, holy cow, this thing has come
up I don't know, six sevenfeet overnight. Yeah. So yeah,
I went down yesterday. It lookedat I cut a new trail at Brass
(52:58):
River County Park year ago to you, and i've cut in a matter of
fact, there's a first leg ofit is up on the upper level of
the park and then you got adrop off, and then the drop off
I cut some stairs down and itgoes down about another twenty thirty feet and
then there's another drop off that takesyou on down to the river. Well,
(53:21):
right now, the stairs that Icut in on that next level up
or are are covered up. Youcan't even see them. Holyday. Well,
I'll tell you who I feel sorryfor you. There's a there's a
crew doing some kind of work onjust north well north south, George,
let's call it just south actually ofninety nine and where the bress flows under
(53:44):
it out toward Richmond, and theyhave been there's been this major project with
little big stairs steps kind of goingdown. I don't know what they're doing
over there building, but every bitof that's underwater now and it's just not
gonna They had it so neatly trimmedand carved, you know, just like
slices of a cake almost, Andnow it's just it's all gonna be just
(54:06):
a big muddy mess when it comesdown. So how many kids you got
done there? Oh? Man,I would say it's still early. There's
probably one hundred and seventy five.Wow. And by the time we're all
sitting done, I think they saidthe last year that they had a little
over three hundred kids that fish itlast year. That's awesome. Years past,
we've had up to three hundred andfifty. So what can have some
(54:30):
of them started fishing already they gotto have now, well they can't start
until nine o'clock. We oh mygosh, oh hold them back, gets
down there fishing already. Yeah,I was gonna I was gonna say,
man, yeah, I don't knowthat I could have been held back.
Yeah, it's like dad, Dad, seriously, we're here to fish,
right, Okay, let's fish.Yeah nine o'clock. If that's the case,
(54:52):
I'll be driving around on a cowsackymule and be letting them know that
they can't keep it, can't putin and count it? Yeah until yeah,
you can you can catch it,but you can't count it. That's
only I mean, that's fair, that's the reasonable rules. Yeah, little
kids getting the head start like that, that's not right. If you know
what I'd be doing. If Iwere down there right now, I'd have
(55:15):
my spots staked out real good, and I'd be chumming exactly, humming,
humming, humming. They provide shrimpfor bait, back to shrimp, make
them shrimp and peel them and breakthem up and chop them up. Yeah,
that's what a cutting board and agood knife for four and parents don't
let the kids chop it all up. But yeah, man, I got
(55:36):
to tell you this quick story, and I know you got to go,
and I kind of do too.But about a week ago, my son,
sixteen years old, one of hisbuddies, I said, hey,
man, y'all want to go fishing. She said, I don't know.
It doesn't look that great. Dad. I said, I'll tell you what.
I'll go out to my little spotthat I do this now, and
I will chum two places and meetme there in about thirty forty five minutes.
(56:00):
And I went out there and theysaid, yeah, that sounds kind
of fun. And I went andrigged up a few rods, and we
were just going to go catch catfishand these giant carp that are in this
place. And it'd be the firsttime that he and I have actually done
that together. The only time Idid it before. I sprinkled some corm
up with vanilla on it out there, and I went back about twenty minutes
(56:22):
later, and there wasn't the theline was already tightening up before the cork
hit the water. It was itwas just like it was stupid. So
we were all set to go,and then the lightning starts up. And
I'm at a golf course and whenthe lightning starts you got to get off
(56:43):
the course, which meant and thewalk back to where we would have been
fishing, which would have been stupidanyway, carrying fiber graphite fishing was but
nonetheless the walk would have taken fortyfive minutes. So yeah, I told
I told my son, they said, you know what, this is a
freebiefore this first one's free, butit doesn't like a drug dealer out there.
I'm gonna the next time they're gonnapay man. Yeah, fun,
(57:07):
all right, Well, good luckwith those kids. Let me know tomorrow.
How it goes well, yeah, please please, I need to follow
up for this, all right, buddy, see man, take care.
Yeah, yeah, that's some thatwas frustrating that day, and it just
never let up for ust. Wesat around, we hung around, We
twiddled our thumbs as long as wecould, and it just still. The
(57:28):
sirens go off when there's lightning withinI want to say, I don't know
eight ten miles, and there's atimer thirty minutes after the most recent lightning
strike before you can go out,And every time there's another little flash,
the clock resets. And I wassitting in there, I'd walk into the
pro shop and take a look atit in eight sixteen minutes, seventeen minutes,
(57:52):
eighteen minutes, and then you hearthis zero. They go okay,
great, And after about I don'tknow an hour of that, we just
we just threw in the towel. That's all we could do, all right.
Speaking of golf courses, south sideof town, timber Creek, no
(58:13):
lightning expected today, by the way, just good weather to play golf in
FM twenty three to fifty one,a few miles west of Friends would off
the golf freeway, very easy tofind. Twenty seven holes. That means
they can start people on two differenttea boxes and keep the line moving,
keep the line moving all day long, so that many more people can get
(58:35):
out and enjoy a very good qualitygolf course that plays. If you've got
any kind of common sense at all, you can stand on any tea box
on any hole out there, andyou can see where the architect suggests that
you hit the ball. This iswhere you're supposed to hit the ball.
If you hit it left or right, that's when you go over to the
JJ Woods Performance Center over there atTimber Creek, just next to the practice
(58:58):
facility there and get that swing fixedup. But if you can get it
somewhere near where you're supposed to be, then you're gonna have a very comfortable
depending on how the pins set, some of those pins on some of those
greens are they're tough, their tournamentpins, we'll call them. But by
and large, it's a very fun, very playable, very relaxing course.
(59:20):
And if the golf isn't relaxing you, there'll be somebody put putting around there
in a cart that can provide youwith something that will relax you as you
continue your around Timber Creek Golf Clubdot com is the website. Go make
yourself a tea time. I alwaysenjoy going down there, and I go
down there every chance I get TimberCreek Golf Club dot com. H twenty

on Sports Talk seven ninety The DougpikeShow, Thank you for listening. Who
can't We just can't get rid ofthis wind. And now it's a kind
of northeast wind which just blows straightdown the beach and messes everything up.
The only place there might be somedecent surf even and be with the rock
growing protection maybe in Galveston, andthen jetti protection all the way over at
(01:00:05):
Quintana that actually might be lined uppretty good. I'll sneak a peek at
that. I bet the surf sideside is just a filthy mess blowing seventeen
seventeen, fifteen twenty three a littlefarther down the coast eighteen at Galveston,
Oh twenty three, right here too, it's surf side. Holy cow,
(01:00:27):
let's go talk to Dave. Seewhat's up? What's up? Dave?
Well, well, I got arain check on that on the date that
I had that I didn't get togo on. Oh no, I'm at
Lake Conroe. Yep, So herewe go. So I'm right here,
No, no, I'm right acrossfrom Papa's over here on Lake Conrod.
(01:00:51):
Again, I'm watching a dad withhis son and his daughter and they're fishing
over here. And then we gottwo guys over here. They're they're hitting
around the docks. And then Isee another boat out there, far away
away, and he's cast and itmay be that same guy. And there
goes another one. I got quitea few of them, has been scooting

through, you know, and viceversa. Yeah, but it's it's it's
and you're exactly right. I'm Ican feel it in my face. Uh
yeah, it's it's. It's it'snorth east. Yeah. Uh and yeah,
we got a little cloud over hereand everything, and but man,
it did true lawful. I'm I'mwearing a light jacket out of here right
(01:01:37):
now. But yeah, and youknow, uh yeah, your producer dude,
he was asked me, you know, well, I mean, I'm
I'm scouting, you know me.I'm still scouting, sure, you know,
And I'm gonna look around and seeand I think we're gonna go run
around and look and see, uh, any of the fridges washed out or
(01:01:57):
anything like that. I don't know. I I got today. In tomorrow,
yeah, I think we're there. There's technically still flood advisories up until
I think tomorrow maybe. But Ialso feel like, okay, because there
is rain predicted for tomorrow, soand any any rain that falls may push
(01:02:17):
a creek out for a little while, but we're not supposed to get a
del uge tomorrow. That's the goodnews. I hope nobody does sprinkle here
to sprinkle there. Okay, wecan, we can absorb that, but
we don't need any more than thatfor anybody around here. Thank you very
much. You said you said itlike my mom. It was the old
(01:02:40):
Oh yeah, man, deluge.I remember that word. That's an old
school word out there. I knowthat's old. I just saw another one,
uh ting across. But it's notwhite captain where I'm at or nothing.
As far as I can see.The wind's a lot lighter up inland.
The wind's a lot lighter. It'sit's I'm looking at five and sevens

and two's and nines and whatever. But on the coast, man, it's
it's screaming. That's hard for them. Hang on a minute, there's a
kid over here with the cash net. He's Oh my word, that covers
it all. Oh man, Ican't. This is I this is better
than watching TV. It's much betterthan watching TV because you're outdoors for starters.
(01:03:25):
Yeah, that's a good dave. It's always good to hear from you,
man, all right, tell you, yeah, I'll do some shouting
around and I'll holler at you long. All right, thanks, Yeah,
find somebody caught fish, man, there's got to be somebody up there who
knows how to catch a catfish.I'm gonna go sliding around over to see
what's happening. Follow that kid withthe cast net, all right, buddy,
(01:03:46):
I'll see you. Oh my goodness, Dave Man, he's he's observant.
He's up at Conrad. He wasall dressed up and ready to go
to you had a date, rememberthat last week? He was. He
was all spiffed up. He hadhis his start shirt on for that.
Probably got his belt buckle polish, got his boots polished. He was ready
(01:04:08):
to go. I don't know whathappened to that one. She missed out
though. He's a good dude.He is a good dude. Seven one,

(01:04:29):
I call it, and that's that'swhat it's called it where I go looking
for it too. This is juststraight up nerd news. But there is
scientific reason to believe. And thisis all hypothesis still at this point,
but it's becoming It's kind of likenobody ever thought anybody would go to the
moon, but then we did,and now there is thought that that warp
(01:04:56):
speed may be possible. And andit dawned on me that the only place
that anybody could be doing research onsomething going that fast, I would be
it redfish fishing tournaments. Those guysgo up and down that intracoastal. Man.
That's about as close to warp speedas you're gonna see, and maybe
(01:05:18):
even the best guys aren't is asaggressive even as some of these redfish cat
They've got boats that'll do ninety milesan hour, one hundred miles an hour,

I thought, boy, this isgoing to be really really cool and really
(01:06:25):
really exciting and fast moving. Andthat was one of the most boring two

think about that outer space black holes, this void of everything. You
know, it's supposed to be thisamazing, crazy thing that just compacts everything

to be drawn into this thing. And you just from the time it starts

guess to all the nerds who putit together was pretty fascinating, but not
so much to me. Man,this is something I like, Melvin,
You're gonna appreciate this. There wasa guy up north and that the story
didn't even say what city it wasin, but it could be anywhere anywhere,
especially where there's a real snooty homeowners'association and a guy who's just about
(01:07:32):
sick and tired of it, whichcould be anywhere in America probably. So
this guy's got his boat. Itlooks like a kind of a northern boat.
I'm guessing like a little Great Lakeslet's go trout fishing boat or walleye
fishing. Anyway, he's got ittrailered and parked on his driveway facing the
street. Okay, so if youdrive by his house, hey, you
(01:07:53):
got this boat parked on the driveway. Nobody wants that, certainly caring that
the HOA doesn't want it, hegets a letter says, hey, you
got to put a fence in frontof that boat so that nobody can see
it from the street. Well hesaid, okay, fine, I'm gonna
do that for you. They didn'task him what he does for a living,
(01:08:15):
but I suspect that at least parttime he's a mural artist, because
what he did was put up thisbig six foot wooden fence all the way
across the driveway. And on thatfence, with incredible skill in detail,
he painted exactly what you'd see ifthe fence wasn't there. He's got the
(01:08:38):
boat, he's got the trailer,he's got the bushes next to the driveway,
he's got the drain spout, thegutter coming off off to the ground,
everything exactly as you would see it. And it's almost like looking at
a photograph. So now when theydrive by, it still looks the same,
(01:08:58):
but it's on wood, piece ofart now, And surely they can't
make him take down it's a pieceof art. I don't know. I
bet they'll try, though, andI bet there's some people, there's some
people on that little ho way boardwho were telling the one who made him
put up the fence, we toldyou just leave him alone. We know
this guy. Don't don't ruffle hisfeathers, don't do it and it's really
kind of cool. I'll try tofind that picture, Melvine and send it
(01:09:21):
to you. It's pretty dang funny. There's a chimney everything, it's all
in the paint and he's got abeautiful time lapse video of him doing that,
and it was very deliberate and heknew exactly and on the ground,
it's if I were to try todo something like that, it would look
(01:09:41):
horrible. There'd be like four cansof spray paint on the ground. On
the ground, he's got this hugetarp covering the entire driveway and the grass
and then back away from the fencefor about ten feet and I bet there
are thirty paint cans on that tthat he's using different colors. And I'm
(01:10:02):
not kidding. The shrubbery even hedidn't just use one shade of green.
He's probably got four or five shadesof green in that shrubbery too. It's
just an accurate depictse. It's hilarious, is what it was. Just hilarious.
Like take that ho a. Youwant a fence, I'll put a
fence. Not a problem. Anybodyelse, Does anybody else need a fence
in the neighborhood. I'll be happyto put one up for them too.
(01:10:25):
Amazing Shooter's Corner. Also amazing PalmerHighway at twenty nine Street down in Texas

It's certainly one of the top five. And also in that top five
would be his son Jay. Theyhave run that store together since Jay's been
a grown man and Jerry's had itdown there for more than forty years.
(01:10:48):
I think it's about forty two now, maybe forty three, but I don't

and that's what a gun store smellslike. Guns, Ammo Optics, Camo

he's going to give up a fishingspot. I bet that's not what
it's about, though, Hey Phil, what's up man? You're giving up
a fishing spot? Are you lookingfor one? No? Well, I'm
out of your neck of the woods. I believe in sugar Land and I
just recently. A couple of weekendsago, did like a low key kind
(01:12:43):
of a bachelor party with some friendsof mine and we tried this spot,
and I was curious if you'd hadany luck, er any experience with it.
It's the Braves Baying Park. Where'sthat. It's just it's uh so
you're you're from kind of Sugarland, right, yeah, yeah, so it's
it's kind of on the opposite sidefrom American shooting centers actually off a Highway
(01:13:11):
six. It's a bit south.Uh what is that south east of I
ten and Highway? Is it?Is it back from America? Is it
in the same property? Is itit within that attic? No? No,
no, So, like you've gotAmerican shooting centers on on the over
there of Highway six and then righton the flip side just north of of
(01:13:38):
just on the flip side of Highwaysix, literally just north of West Park
Tollway. Yeah, I kind ofknow what you're talking about. Yeah,
I'm just curious if you'd I mean, we didn't we didn't go out at
a great time. It was likekind of late in the morning. Ten.
Yeah, you just finished up abachelor party too, so well,
(01:14:00):
I mean, like I said itwas low key and none of us or
what none of us are kind oflike hardcore. But I'm just curious if
you had an experience with it,because we didn't have any No, but
I mean fish. There's a bigpiece of water there. If I'm not
mistaken. Yeah, no, what'sa good size to me? Like what,
we didn't go deep. It's gotsome parks and what on, and
it's like, you know, youwalk your dog and everything. We didn't.
There's a lot of area. Apparentlyyou can walk around. We didn't
(01:14:21):
go deep. Yeah, I meanthere's a sign that's got bad limits and
everything. And apparently you don't letoff your dogs because there's theoretically gators.
Yeah, all you gotta do youdig a hole in the in the ground
and fill it full of water.Anywhere within twenty miles where I'm sitting outside
of Beltway, there'll be an alligatorin there. It won't take Yeah,
(01:14:45):
but I just I'm just curious ifyou'd tried it or not. But because
we didn't have any look, god, yeah, I didn't realize that you
turned that into a big old park. And also there's easy access to the
shoreline though right there, where'd yougo. Oh, Phil Bascheler, party
man just noted off. I can'thear you anymore. Phil, I'm gonna
(01:15:06):
let you go, but i'na I'mgonna hunt that down, and I think
my son and I might go checkit out first. He's got one friend
of his who's a pretty good bassfisherman. I'll go look at that.
And if you're wondering how to goabout finding out whether there are any fish
in a place like that, mystrategy always has been on new water,
(01:15:28):
to cover that water as quickly asI can with maybe a crankbait of spinner
bait, depending on what kind ofstructure's in there. I would reserve top
waters for a time, and aplace where it really looked like a top
water is the best choice. Butlittle crank baits and little spinner baits are
they're bike getters, and you mightnot catch the biggest fish in the lake
(01:15:51):
on either one of those. Youcould in theory. But nonetheless, if
there are bass in there, andeven if there are croppy in there,
the ell eite small crank baits aswell, the next one I catch out
where I do most of my fishingnow in fresh water won't be the first,
certainly, And if there are bassin there, the good news is
(01:16:13):
that a six inch bass will eata little crank bait. Six inch bass
trade at four inch crank bait,if there's such a thing. But yeah,
I got to go out there.I know exactly where you're talking about
too. That used to be actually, it used to be a golf facility.
If I'm not mistaken. I wantto say it was a three hole
or a three par thing, ormaybe just a little nine hole course.
(01:16:35):
It was a nine hole course,is what. It was. Nine hole,
regular golf course. And I neverdid play it. I don't if
I did, it was not memorable. I don't think I ever played that
thing. I stopped by once totalk to him about something, maybe,
but that was about it. Yeah, I've got to go inspect that place
(01:16:57):
and see what's up. I wantto go check it out. We're going
to talk to Yeah, I gota little time here. What's up,
Robert, Good morning. Uh.That last caller there was talking about is
that that there used to be apart three right there on Highway six.
That's gotta be it. Yeah, that's it. I was just talking about
that. Yeah, I think you'reright. Yeah, because I remember we
(01:17:19):
had a party out there. Wellit was more like a New Year's party
on the golf right, and Iguess we got kind of thrown off of
it. Two wasted. Yeah you'renot New Year. You weren't just just
enough wasted. You got two wasted. Okay, that's all right. So
(01:17:41):
what you're telling me is you didn'tfish it. You have no idea if
there's any fish in there. No. I think I put a plenty of
golf balls in the water though, but uh yeah, uh but they turned
it to a large like a lakeor a small lake. Uh So,
yeah, I believe there's some goodfishing there. Would almost have to be.
It's been there, so yeah, that water's been there so long now
(01:18:04):
that there would almost have to besome some good fishing there by just by
default, you know, they fallout a sky in there or whatever.
I'm gonna go check it out.And then there's another place just up the
road or is it connected around Eldridge. There's another body of water also off
of six off the west part.Oh okay, oh okay, Oh yeah,
(01:18:28):
I know where that one is too. I know that piece of water.
I've never fished it. I've nevereven tried to fish it. I
haven't looked for access to it.Yeah, it just sounds like I need
to go on a mission. Itlooks pretty deep. Yeah, I know
it does. Yeah, it's abig retention pond. And uh, if
it's anything like the retention ponds outin sugar Land, it'll have some pretty
good fish in it. Yeah.Okay, Way that guy had brought up
(01:18:53):
a funny memory. Well, it'sgood that you remember since you were too
wasted. That's good. That's funny. Man. All right, Robert,
thanks, I'll see audios or yeah, Melvin, have you ever been too
wasted? No, not yet, just just wasted enough, just being haven't
(01:19:17):
stepped over the line, all right, man, tell my gosh, all
right, let's take a break.We'll take a little break here. We'll
be right back to Doug Pike Showon Sports Talk seven ninety. This is

We're all want to go. Bythe way, did I mention that
a minute ago? Melvin about thegrocery store. I think I did,
didn't or not? You sure did? Yeah, I'm glad I did too,
man, because that guy was Iwas just so please that somebody remembered
(01:20:01):
all that stuff, because boy,we had a good time doing that.
All right, I want to go, No, let me get to this
email first of all. Okay, this email came from Jason, and this
is We're going to golf here alittle early. But nonetheless I want to
make sure I catch you before hehas to leave the show or whatever.
Uh he's Do I know of orhave I heard of any talk about people
(01:20:25):
doing golf opening up golf courses aroundhere? Well, yeah, the latest
one, the latest public course toopen is Highland Pines and it is if
you live on the north side oftown, good for you, because it's
an awesome track. It's already winningawards and it is just a stunning view
from the first hole and it justgoes winding through the river bottom. Now,
(01:20:47):
they may have a little water issueright now, I'm not sure.
I know. I've already gotten aninvite to this year's media day in June,
and I'm hoping we'll be okay then. But in any event, that's
probably the newest and best one Iknow of that's public. And then on
the private side there is soon tobe open. How Sutton has got a
(01:21:14):
place out off of seventy one aboutmaybe I don't know, three four miles
north of I ten that I havetoured with how I did that about two
weeks ago, and it is goingto be a showstopper in and of itself.
And then if you really want togo whole hog, it's certainly worth
(01:21:38):
looking at Big Easy Ranch and thecourse that was built there, called the
Covey, that is once again anotherone that's just winning one award after another.
I want to say it was thebest new course in Texas just recently
named by the Dallas Morning News.I'm pretty sure that was where it was.
I think it was the best newcourse in Texas, and it's it's
(01:22:01):
a fantastic layout as well. Therecomes with a lot of bonus stuff too,
like big game hunting if you're intothat, like duck hunting and pheasant
hunting. And if you're into that, there are two totally different properties,
both of them out off seventy one. As I mentioned, Hal has focused
entirely on the golf, and it'sgoing to be a place, not where
(01:22:23):
you're going to go spend all daymaybe, but just go out there,
play you around to golf and grabsomething to eat and head on home in
a very relaxing, smallish setting.It's it's it's just one. It's just
golf. It's just golf in itspurest form. It's an absolutely stunning golf
(01:22:43):
course and it'll it'll win its shareof awards too once it kicks off.
And then Veigi'sy Ranch right down theroad is totally a different experience. It
is the It is anything you wantit to be, from golf to hunting,
everything from deer to red stags toexotic animals to ducks and all kinds
(01:23:04):
of stuff, ducks and quail andpheasants, beautiful facility, a fantastic restaurant,
fantastic accommodations, lots that you canpick up. So that's the newest
stuff I can think of off hand. And if I've missed one, I'm
gonna feel horrible about it. Idon't think I have. The Augusta Pines
(01:23:28):
on the public side is absolutely worthgoing to and playing if you haven't yet.
It's a premium premium price to playthat place, but well worth it.
Just make sure the floodwaters have subsided. They used a unique turf on
that course too, on the greensand the fairways. And boy, when
(01:23:49):
those greens get rolling, if theyget a chance, if it's a little
bit dry and they cut them close, they'll roll easily eleven twelve. And
as the undulation on those greens takeshold of that, there's gonna be some
four putts. If you don't knowwhat you're doing with the putter in your
hand. Seven one three seven ninetyEmail on me, Dougpike at iHeartMedia dot

me know. Chances are pretty goodI've played it. If it's new,
well, I'm scratching my head.I think I'm okay. If I'm not,
though, let me know. Uh. Speaking of floodwaters and whatnot,
I wanted to make sure that everybodyjust I'm just to issue a reminder here
(01:24:33):
in these last few minutes of thissegment that all that flooding displaced a bunch
of wildlife. There were animals caughtin the rising water that got moved who
knows how far from their normal stompinggrounds, snakes, four legged animals of
(01:24:57):
all sizes, everything from a mouseup to a deer. A lot of
livestock got moved too that maybe couldn'tbe gotten to in time to trailer them
up or put them into a higherpasture. But anyway, the bottom line
is if you come across something likethat, and the alligators certainly I mentioned
on fifty plus I think it wasjust yesterday the story of a Cleveland,
(01:25:24):
Cleveland, Texas not Cleveland, Ohio, Cleveland, Texas police officer got called
to a scene along with others fromthat department to move about an eight or
nine foot alligator out of the roadup near fifty nine, and they did
the best they could as police officersand couldn't get any help from the game
(01:25:47):
wardens because the game wardens were stillrescuing people. But this alligator needed to
be moved, and they came upwith a plan, and they put their
plan into motion, and one ofthose police, I'm it's not funny,
but I can just see them andknow that going into it, they were
(01:26:13):
just as uncertain and a little bitscared as I would have been trying to
wrestle that thing. And it endedup biting this guy on the wrist and
it cracked a few bones and itcut him up pretty bad. He's supposed
to be okay, which is good. That's why it's you know, you
can breathe a little bit of asigh of relief and see the craziness that
(01:26:33):
must have ensued when two or threepolice officers perfectly capable of fighting bad guys
of any size, shape and formor whatever, come across a bad reptile
that is lost. It's kind ofticked off. It's probably hungry, and
(01:26:55):
yeah, it fought back in waysthat I don't know of. Any bad
guys got a tail that weighs onehundred and fifty pounds and can slap you
up side of the head with it. Yeah, he got a bit pretty
bad. And again the surgeries allapparently were successful, and he's supposed to
be just fine, thank goodness. But holy cow, that's there's enough.
(01:27:17):
There are enough animals half a mile, a mile, two miles from where
they should be that they all needto be respected. And the best thing
you can do, honestly, now, if there's something in the road,
try to get it out of theroad. Just encourage it to get out
of the road so it doesn't gethit and so it doesn't maybe a wreck
of car or whatever, but otherwisejust kind of leave them alone. Just
(01:27:42):
leave them alone. They they're wildanimals, they're equipped. They're not accustomed
to having to to being dislocated likethis, but they are equipped to deal
with it, and somewhere in theirDNA it says, Okay, either try
to find your way back home orwelcome to where you live. Now,
let me go talk to Brandon beforewe get off. You are here.
(01:28:03):
What's up? Brandon? Good morning, Doug. How are you this morning?
I'm good man me mister pik pleaseman, No, no, really,
seriously, no, I wanted tocomment. You're right about the floodwaters
moving around and uh in rearranging animalsand where they and they call that home
now, I mean after Hurricane Harvey, I can I mean the little communities
(01:28:25):
that I live around here in WhartonCounty. I mean, you would go
and drive and you be like thisdeer over it? What the heck is
that? And then I got tothinking, I'm like, oh, thissen,
I'm some some of these bucks arelike you would have never seen them
because they got pushed out of theriver bottoms and arrows here, and they
called they call this home, andI'm like, oh my gosh, look
(01:28:45):
at that. You know, soit does make a difference, and they
do. They don't. It's notlike it's not like they know where they
to go back to. They justfind a way to call that home.
Well. Yeah, if you're ifyou're used to eating wild grass wherever it
grows, and you wake up amile from where you ate your last piece
of grass and there's grass at yourfeet, welcome home, right exactly.
(01:29:06):
That's how a lot of the exoticranches in the Hill country, because they
were susceptible to some pretty significant flashflooding and whatnot that actually would go over
the fences as they used to buildthem. That's how a lot of these
axis deer and fallow deer and psychadeer and black buck antelope, all of
them just got cut loose all overthe Hill country exactly. I mean,
(01:29:31):
it's like a zoo in the Hillcountry. I think it's pretty neat.
Especially in October and November when allthe tourists get away. You can drive
on county roads and you can seeall kinds. Just get your binoculars out
in your camera or whatever. Theyain't no telling what you might see.
No, you see it? Stand? Oh wow. Yeah, it's like
seeing the elk standing next to ablack buck antelope having a converse. Hey,
(01:29:56):
you know, an elk and ablack buck and a psycha deer and
a Faali bear deer playing poker orsomething on the side of the road.
All right, but yeah, yeah, I'll deal. That'd become a cool
game, all right. Man.Hey, thanks Brandon you yeah, you
too, man audios, Oh mygoodness. Yeah, there's all kinds of
(01:30:17):
and the little animals too. Theythey have to swim for it, and
we lost a lot of them. That's the sad part. Some of these
animals just get washed away. Ifyou're a three pound u three pound possum
or something like that, you don'tstand a great chance if the water comes
up swiftly and you're getting banged intosticks and trees and all that as you're
(01:30:40):
trying to find some kind of purchasefor your little feet in that water.
You know, I feel kind ofsorry for all those animals that got killed
by this, And and don't thinkthat they didn't for a minute. They'll
there'll be all kinds of stuff, you know, float up or Yeah,
it's just sad that we lose somuch wildlife in something like this, but
it's just it's nature, and that'spart of it. The strong survive.
(01:31:04):
The strong ones make it, Theymake it to dry ground, they make
it to high ground, and theygo on to keep things moving for all
the rest of the animals. AllRight, we got to take this little
break the top of the hour.I will I will reserve my two things
that I have left to tell youabout until a little into the next hour.
(01:31:25):
Coming up at the top of thehour, here we're going to talk
to Troy Tutt. He is theman when it comes to live golf and
explanations of it. And we've gota tournament coming up here in June the
seventh through the ninth up at GolfClub of Houston. We'll talk about that
when we get back The Doug PikeShow on Sports Talk seven ninety. This
is the Doug Pike Show, broughtto you by American Shooting Centers, Guns
(01:31:50):
Shooting and Instruction since nineteen eighty nine. Now here's Doug Pike. All right,
welcome back, third and final hourthis program this morning. Start trying
now. Thank you for all forlistening. We are going to talk in
this segment, as I promised, going out about an event that is gathering
a lot of momentum on the localgolf scene, and that is the first
(01:32:12):
stop in Houston ever for live Golf. I've been waiting for this for a
long time and it's gonna be herein less than a month, June seventh
through the ninth up at Golf Clubin Houston. And to help those of
us who don't really understand how itworks quite yet, because we haven't been
right there on the ground and tryingto watch it on TV, and it's
(01:32:34):
confusing a little bit to me,frankly. But fortunately I've got Troy Tutt
Live Golf, Senior vice president ofticking and Ticketing and Hospitality on the phone.
Welcome Troy. How you doing?Man? Oh? Did I push
him up? I didn't do it. Now I got you. I'm sorry,
Troy. No problem at all,Doug. It's great to be on
(01:32:57):
and appreciate you having me. Ohit's my pleasure. I've waited a long
time for this to happen. Honestly, how long ago did you guys decide
to come to Houston? You knowwhat? It's a lot of our planning
for a season really happens, youknow, a solid six to twelve months
and evance. For example, we'redeep into our scheduling already for twenty twenty
five. So Houston has been onour radar. And I heard your comment
(01:33:20):
about first time in Houston. Wall. To be honest with you, it's
actually our first time in Texas. So you guys, you guys are our
first stop coming to your state. So we're excited to be there. And
to your point, we're I wouldsay a month away, but actually now
less than a month away on Juneseventh. Oh yeah, it's just right
around the corner stopping first in Houston. It's all downhill from there, Troy,
(01:33:41):
you might as well just come backhere next year. Sounds good.
Well, based on how ticket salesare going and the vibe that we're getting
from the Houston market, you mightbe right. We might just need to
go back to back because the uh, you know, the response has been
strong. So we're excited to bethere. Good. How did Houston get
the NOD the first time? Yeah? So the you know, a lot
(01:34:02):
of what we do from our planningstandpoint, there's a lot that goes into
it right. So one, youhave to find the right golf course that
stands up to the caliber to test, you know, some of the best
players in the world golf club ifHouston certainly does that. Everything I'm hearing
from boots on the ground is thatthe course is in spectacular shape. So
we're excited for that. So youknow, you certainly need to check the
(01:34:23):
box there. Our players schedule. You know, some of our guys are,
especially next weekend, are playing inthe PGA Championship. You know,
that's an example. We just needto make sure we're giving the players the
right cadence throughout the season to keeptheir game sharp. And then certainly there's
no doubt Houston is a great market, and so you know that's something that
as a sport and as a leaguemaybe a lot of folks may not know
(01:34:45):
yet, but as a global league, we're really focused on super charging the
game of golf for global audience. And so that's not only here in the
US or North America, but that'syou know, across the world. So
we do pride ourselves in moving aroundquite a bit because we do want to
provide lib golf to variety of folks. So we don't have a ton of
interest of saying, hey, hereare fourteen or so events, and we're
(01:35:06):
going to be at the same coursesevery year for the next ten years.
You'll see us move around. Yeah, I don't blame you for that.
So let's get to the meat andpotatoes lib golf, which is quite deliberately
and significantly different from all the othergolf that happens around the world. Tell
us how the team structure works first, sure, absolutely, So we have
thirteen teams. Each team is madeup of four guys, right, so
(01:35:30):
you'll have four players. Each teamwill have a captain, so a lot
of them are names you'll recognize, like a Brooks Koepka is a captain,
or Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson andCam Smith and our newcomer John Rahm with
Legion thirteen is the name of theteam. So you have each captain.
And what's interesting about it is they'replaying multiple roles, Doug, So they
(01:35:54):
are not only a player and acaptain, but they're also the GM of
their team. So think about theyare creating a franchise or a team,
just like the Houston Astros or theteams or whatever it might be So they're
selling their own sponsorship deal, theyhave their own management team, they have
to manage their own travel for theirteam. Everything that's wrong with creating a
franchise or a team. So that'swhat a lot of folks maybe don't see
(01:36:16):
behind the scenes just yet. It'lltake time for folks to understand that,
but they are. They're managing afranchise just like anybody else. They're building
up their brand just like any otherbrand would do. So, so you
have the captains coming in and theycan trade. We actually, for the
first time, we just opened upour first mid season trade window, so
you could have them just making up, but Dustin Johnson could take one of
(01:36:40):
his players and he could trade themwith John rom Right. And so these
guys, these four guys make uptheir team and they're all competing for the
team championship, which is coming upin September. The location is to be
determined. We haven't announced it yet. It's going to be coming soon,
but it'll be another big city, prominent city here in the US that we're
focused on. We're excited for,you know what's yet to come. Yeah,
(01:37:02):
it's kind of that's more than Irealized about this so essentially Live is
NFL, and all the captains arethe Saints, the Texans, and the
Cowboys and such. Right, thatmakes sense exactly, You got it right.
Live Golf is the league, LiveGolf of the league. And then
we've got thirteen teams and they're allcompeting for the championship. Right. So
(01:37:25):
I would say the only thing that'sa bit unique is our guys. They
week in and week out when they'replaying our tournaments, they are they can
perform and they can win as individuals. So they still have the capability from
a perse standpoint individually, but thefocus is really on team performance. And
speaking of seeing them on I've watchedseveral times on television, explain Troy Tutt.
(01:37:47):
Please that scoreboard that I see overthere, it looks like something out
of like the NDY five hundred. Now, I don't get it. We
got we got a lot going on. It's a little bit just like any
It's just a little bit and justlike anything that's new and different at the
time. But the feedback that we'regetting from folks is they love it.
So a lot of times what you'llsee on the screen your top left is
(01:38:09):
showing your individual leader board scores ifyou would for any professional GOP tournament,
and then a lot of times you'llsee at the bottom the left you're just
seeing what the accumulative team score is. So what we do to bring the
fans in a little bit of howwe're structured, especially for those who are
maybe interested in coming to join usin a month or so, is we
go over three days, right,so our formats a little bit different.
(01:38:30):
We're not four days like a lotof others. We also do a shotgun
start, which I can tell youfans absolutely love, so you no longer
have to spend ten or twelve hourson course to see your favorite players.
All the guys will tee off atthe same exact time with a shotgun start.
So for our Houston event, thatwill be right around twelve o'clock twelve
fifteen, and then our event goesfive hours and you're seeing all the players
(01:38:54):
playing at the same time. Sothat's what you're seeing on the TV there,
Doug, is you're seeing both theindividual scores on the team scores,
and the first two days they'll takethe top three players in the team.
So let me break it down alittle bit better. So if you have
four guys on the team. Thetop three scores out of those four guys
will count for Day one and Daytwo, and then on Day three Sunday,
(01:39:16):
all four players scores will count.Oh well, okay, so you
can throw out yeah. Yeah.We just had it in Adelaide if anybody
watched TV obviously on a different timezone there, but we had, you
know, just a fantastic response overninety thousand fans over the course of three
days in Australia, and we hadour first team playoffs. So we had
(01:39:41):
the Rippers. I mean, obviouslyyou couldn't script it any better. You
have the Rippers, which is CamSmith's team, which are all all Stream
players, right, so it scriptedwell. Playing against the Stingers was a
South African team, and so theywent into a playoff back to back and
I think, you know, youknow, maybe when you're doing something right,
one of the players from the Stingers, he was in the bunker and
(01:40:03):
he hit a shot and unfortunately wentback into the bunker, and that everybody
erupted cheering because obviously they're they're pulling, they're pulling for the Rippers, right,
So that's the kind of team atmosphereyou're seeing now and they might have
had a beer or two. Idon't know. I wasn't there out that
definitely plenty afterwards. Oh god,Troy Tough from Live Golf on the Doug
(01:40:26):
Pike Show, So let's talk aboutthe atmosphere at your events, which we
kind of did just It was amazing. It was like you were reading off
my page talking about fifty four holes, talking about the shot and gunn start,
which actually I kind of like thattoo, because I don't have to
show up at seven o'clock in themorning to watch one guy I want to
see and then hang out until sixo'clock at night to see my other guy
finish. I do like that aspectof this. It looks as on TV
(01:40:51):
at least, to be a lotlooser, a lot more casual. Are
the players more interactive or are theystill really still grinding? Yeah, great
question, Doug. So we areWe're one big family. And so what
I mean by that is the playersare not independent contractors. They're all part
of the Live Golf family in theLive Golf League, and I think that's
(01:41:12):
created, you know, indirectly, this vibe of we're all in it together.
And so we kind of use thisterm internally that those thing ropes that
you are always at golf tournaments thatare separating the fans to the players live
golf, those are truly just onethin, skinny rope versus maybe another experiences.
It almost feels like a wall.So I say that in which our
(01:41:35):
players love to interact with our fans. Certainly we're big into welcoming youth and
family. We have a whole fanvillage, which is as a person who's
been here in sports for twenty plusyears, it's one of the best,
you know, fan villages I've seenas far as an interaction, interactive area
(01:41:55):
for families go in. You haveface painting and golf simulators. A lot
of times have concerts going on,so there's a lot to do. It
doesn't matter if you're you know, the biggest golf fan in the world,
or you've never been to a golfformat before, or you're looking for a
day out to bring your family. We have something for everybody Troy to If
traditional golf is traditional Troy, thenwhat is live golf. Yeah, we're
(01:42:19):
just we're taking the game of golfand we're not really changing the integrity of
the game or you know, majoraspects outside of playing three days versus four
days and a shotgun start, forthe most part, everything else is pretty
similar. You know, you're addingin that team atmosphere. It's really just
the vibe that's going around during ourevent. So, Doug, you know
one thing a lot of folks don'tknow. And if you watch our event,
(01:42:40):
you'll certainly hear some of that timesthat music that's in the background.
So for many of our events,we'll have between one hundred and fifty to
one hundred and seventy five speakers allaround the entire course. Wow, so
we are we are playing music throughoutthe entire event. So are you an
NBA fan at all? Doug?Yeah, dabb it's the rockets, Okay,
that's all I got. That's good. So you may remember back in
(01:43:02):
the eighties and nineties, do youremember music being played much? Not really,
No, the sneakers right, organplaying or the sneakers squeaking, And
so now this day and eighty right, you go to a game and there's
music playing all the time. Soit's just an evolution of you know what
the NBA. You know, thesimilar comparison went through. It's similar to
us now when folks go out andplay golf. Most folks have their own
(01:43:25):
individual speakers on their golf carts andso on and so and forth. So
the vibe is a much looser toyour points, friendlier atmosphere, and you
can just you can see it inthe kind of the faces of our fans
and also our players. Everybody's intertwinedfor this kind of thing. Friendly atmosphere.
Sure, when I play now, some speakers are louder than others.
(01:43:45):
You can hear them four four wayfair ways. Hey, that's right,
that's right, that's just one again. Everything there's a change with everything,
and that's a bit of the evolutionwith golf. So we're just going along
the lines of you know what folksare used to. Okay, we're close
out of time, Troy Ted,I want to ask you what a come
out the ticketing options. Does thepublic have access to any upgrades and ticketing
to get into some of the hospitalityareas or no? Yeah, absolutely,
(01:44:08):
So we still have tickets available. So our traditional grounds ticket is available for
all three days once again, we'reFriday, Saturday and Sundays taking off on
June seventh, and so they cango to livegolf dot com and they can
quickly see that right there under theHouston page. But then we also have
upgraded hospitality. So we have ourBirdie Shack, which is our entry level
hospitality. So what you'll love aboutthis, Doug, if you enjoy music
(01:44:31):
that you get a couple of drinksincluded, a few drinks included all day
there's a DJ playing music in thisarea all all day long. You can
upgrade to our Gallery Club, whichhas food and drinks included. We can
go to our Club fifty four, which is our more premium club that's located
right on the eighteenth Green. Allyour food and drinks included there. So
we got a wide variety no matter. You know what the appetite is,
(01:44:56):
you know we're here to fill it. So you're not like that, You're
not like the f one g onyour prices. Did you see that story
over the weekend, Just as aquick aside, I did, And you
know, certainly you know there's alot of sensitivity pricing that is not us.
As I say, we're super chargingthe game of golf and for global
audience, and I I love youyou look at our grounds ticket prices there,
(01:45:17):
I would say they're almost similar toyou know, any you know,
maybe from a minor league sporting event. Right now, we are Wow,
we're in our infancy stages of ourorganization. Right we haven't even hit the
two year mark of the first timewe hit a golf ball as a lead
point. So this is not aboutfor us. The focus isn't here about
you know, squeezing every penny out. It's really introducing live golf to a
(01:45:39):
global audience. So we want tomake it reasonable for the majority of you
know fans out there to attend.Come one, come all, Live Golf
coming to Houston June seventh through theninth. Troy Tutt, Senior VP of
Ticketing and Hospitality, thank you somuch. Thanks for having me. Doug.
You ever read that up? Yeah, I'm going to be I may
bring you back up at some point. Man. I got a couple one
(01:46:00):
more questions I ask you later.Thank you, Troy. Let's bubby.
Wow, that is good stuff rightthere, That's very good stuff, all
right. I know I'm late.I apologize, so sorry, so so
sorry. Melvin. On the wayout, I want to tell you about
Primo Doors. This is my friendJason Fortenberry, who told me yesterday that
my door is ready and now we'vegot to schedule it. It's ironic this
(01:46:24):
is so close yet so far away, because the first date he threw at
me for installations the same day I'mgetting a new roof, and I don't
want that door anywhere near a bunchof roofers. That's just not a good
idea. We're gonna wait a littlebit, let them get done, and
then we're gonna get that brand newfront door put onto our house, and
we're gonna have the coolest looking housein the in the neighborhood, gonna have
(01:46:46):
a brand new roof on it,gonna have a brand new front door on
it, and it's gonna look spectacular. The grass is growing, the flowers
look pretty. Primo. Doors willhelp you. The front door says,
probably be the most about the peoplewho live behind it. Put flowers out
in the front yard. Okay, hey, it's water them a little bit,
and they're gonna grow, all right. But if you don't take care
(01:47:09):
of your door, it starts tofade, it might start to crack.
It just start to look like apiece of driftwood. And that's not what
you want. You want your doorto reflect the pride you take in your
home. You want your door toalso be safe. That's why they have
thousands of options from which to choose, literally thousands of wood doors, fiberglass
(01:47:31):
doors, of iron doors. Ifsafety is a real concern of yours,
now there are ways to safeguard awood door too, and the people at
Primo can help you with that.Go to the website, get all fired
up looking at before and after picturesto see just how much of a difference
this can make, and then takea picture of the front of your house
and your front door and set upan appointment at Primo Doors showroom, which
(01:47:56):
is just a few minutes north ofme on North Post Oak. Sit down
down with somebody there and let themhelp you sift through those thousands and whittle
it down to just a few choices, and then you and your family pick
out the door. You pick outthe hardware, you pick out the stained
color, all of that, andthat makes it your door. Primo Door's
(01:48:19):
been in business a long time.Owner's been in owner's been in that business
Primo Doors more than ten years, and he's got more than twenty years of
door installation experience. Right here inHouston. Fantastic company, family owned,
competitive pricing, and that's all theydo is doors, and they're very good
(01:48:40):
at what they do. They're opentoday, by the way ten to two,
just in time to take advantage andhall mom over there and get a
brand new front door for that houseyours, make her happy, make her
proud. Premodors dot com is thewebsite premodors dot com. Ques This is

just kind of crashed. I'm gonnashut her down if I can, and
then start her back up. Idon't know what's going on. It's got
a little blue circle. It's justgoing round and run and round, and
I've never sewn gont to shut itdown, and I'll rewind all right.
(01:49:27):
Seven one three two one two fiveseven ninety Email me Doug Pike at iHeartMedia

know, Oh my goodness, that'sokay. That can be open. It's
saved. Oh that's kind of scarywhen you have to shut down. You're
forced to shut down, and youdon't remember what you got up there and
it tells you a couple of thingsfingers crossed. Huh okay, let me
(01:49:50):
let me get this thing kicked backon real quick. Hopefully, see what
happens here, all right? Goingback to weird? Oh, I know
someplace I needed to go. Well, I can't go there right now because
my computer's not working. I can'tgo to the PGA tour. You know,
this is kind of weird. Thisthing is acting kind of strange,
(01:50:13):
and I don't know why. Letme go to this Go to deer hunting
for just a second. Fast forwardto this coming deer season. There are
proposals up that would change the waythat we have to care for deer after
we kill them. And a lotof places take these carcasses to commercial processors
(01:50:34):
who properly dispose of unused parts. But a lot of times that could change
because there is a concerned effort underwayto make sure that we don't let chronic
wasting disease get even another inch intoTexas than it is now. And it's
(01:50:59):
already it's already here, and it'salready being found. Well, even one
case is more than I want tosee for our deer, honestly, But
what they're proposing is some changes thatin particular areas, at least you and
I and anybody else who shoots adeer would have to follow these guidelines and
on disposing of these carcasses. IfI can get the right page here,
(01:51:23):
there it is and what it sayshere is and there's a public comment period
open I believe until yeah, untilMay twenty second on this very briefly carcass
disposal. Currently, hunters who harvestdeer within a chronic wasting disease zone and
(01:51:44):
so for starters, if you're outsidethat zone, you don't have to worry
so much. Must comply with carcassmovement restrictions which require quartering a hunter harvested
animal and leaving the most infectious partsof the animal, the brain and the
spinal cord within the zone. Nowthat's not that hard to do for most
deer hunters, but the bottom lineis it goes on and on and on,
(01:52:08):
and some of the at least oneof these situations requires burying the carcass
at a depth of no less thanthree feet below the natural surface of the
ground and covered with least at leastthree feet of earthen material, or I
(01:52:28):
mean it just goes on and on. I would strongly encourage you if you
are in one of those zones, and you probably know if you are,
you know by county and specific partsof counties, and if you are in
one of those zones, I wouldencourage you to go look up the rules
as they are proposed and see howor if they would affect you, and
(01:52:49):
if they will affect you. Byall means, make sure your voice is
heard on whether you like that ideaor not. Frankly, I think that
that we need to be very watchfulof the spread of chronic wasting disease because
it's it can be devastating to herds. And if you've seen the stories coming
(01:53:13):
out of some of these breeding facilities, the concern is so great among biologists
state biologists that a lot of times, if one infected animal is found,
they end up having to euthanize theentire herd. And that's just that's just
frightening. It really is. Thisstuff can take hold, and it's moving
from state to state. It's it'sa little bit everywhere. Now, there
(01:53:34):
was a story floating around about amonth ago about how two guys somewhere died
from the first transmission ever of thisto of chronic wasting disease to humans from
from animals, And that wasn't thecase. There was. It was a
(01:53:54):
somebody had just taken a tiny littlepebble and turned it into a boulder of
a store that came rolling downhill onus all and really wasn't anywhere near accurate,
not even close to accurate. Allit was was just a bunch of
hullabaloo, if you will, Andit caused a lot of cause a lot
(01:54:15):
of anxiety amongst a lot of people. But what this was was actually crutch
felt I think it's called Crutchfeldt Jacob'sdisease, which is a similar neurological condition
to COVID. I mean to excuseme, not COVID for Haven's sake,
to CWD. But yeah, itcaused a lot of angst when it came
up. All right, let's takethis break here at the bottom of the
(01:54:39):
hour. I'm still trying to getmy laptop to recoup and regenerate, and
I think it's coming back to life. I'll check it during the break.
On the way out. I'll remindyou that Carter's country. You know,
if mom likes the outdoors, likesthe shooting sports, and you might be
able to find just something she wouldreally like at Carter's Country. If it's
going to be a big purchase outit, ask her first. If it's
(01:55:00):
going to be something as an accessorythat you think she needs or wants to
have in her hunting bag or inher shooting bag when she goes to the
range or goes to the stand orwhatever, go ahead and get it.
A good chance you can find somethingshe doesn't have it Carter's Country because they've
got everything, and nobody I knowhas everything. A lot of guys I
know have almost everything, but notmany have it all. Carter's Country does.
(01:55:24):
Carter's Country has all these They gotthe stores, they got the online
shopping option, they have the rangeat the tresh Week store. Now that's
a good idea if you want toget mom a concealed carry course, which
I think is fantastic really, especiallyin this day and time. That added
confidence you're going to get from knowingthe law on when and where you can
(01:55:45):
carry and when you can't, whenyou should and when you should not produce
your weapon to defend yourself or somebodyelse or your property. All of that
is available at Carter's Country and hasbeen for the better part of what is
it now sixty something years, beenaround a long time, always guns,
amo hunting stuff, and all onlinetoo, which is kind of new relatively
(01:56:12):
for a company that's been around andhelp so many people hunters and target shooters
and competitive shooters and recreational shooters.Carterscountry dot Com is the website. Start
there. See what I'm talking about. Carterscountry dot com. This is Sports

already on Sports Talk seven to ninety, The Dougpike Show. Thanks for
listening. Guess who's laptop's back upand running? Hee huh. I was
a little scared. I got totell you because I've got got a texaspicion
game column sitting here, and Iam I am at present five hundred and
(01:56:55):
twenty words into about a seven sevenhundred and fifty word call them that I
owe them and have owed them sinceMay one. And I'm very fortunate that
the publisher of the magazine already atEves and her husband don't mind me being
a little bit late, and Ithink it's that they know that I'm not
going to send them something that's goingto take a lot of work to get
(01:57:20):
ready to go. I hope that'swhat it is. Anyway, I feel
like I'm doing a pretty good jobfor him. I got an email also
from Aaron Raybold. If you've listenedto this show for a very long time,
you will remember Aaron as a producerof it. At one point he
may have been I don't know, four five six back at this point,
(01:57:40):
Melvin, he'd been you are you'resitting in the seat where Aaron once produced
for me and did so wonderfully. And he reminded us, because his memory
is way better than mine, thatthat par three complex we were talking about
over off Highway six was called Mulligans. Mulligans that's what it was, very
(01:58:03):
appropriately, a little it says,a par three course off Highway six and
Jones Road was named Mulligans used togo their all time growing up, if
I remember correctly. There was alsoone in the Champions area. Yes,
that's maybe. They were fun whenyou could find those little places. There
was a lit one that I thinkwho was it? Owned that? Oh
(01:58:26):
oh man, I'm looking right atthe guy. He and his dad had
a hand in the one that wasout in a leaf. Goy Lee is
a good friend. At my poormemory, little things are slipping out of
it. I'll remember it as soonas we go to break or something like
that, for sure, and theni'll tell you when we get back.
Anyway, there, they were alot of fun, but they just aren't.
It's very difficult to keep those thingsrunning. Just as golf facilities.
(01:58:51):
There's that new little kind of aquirky place. There was one by the
way. There was a golf coursethat closed off belt Way eight around oh,
I want to say around two fortytwo, somewhere over and there,
close to that Tomball exit. It'slong gone now, and it kind of
(01:59:12):
spooked me. I talked to theguy who ran that place once, and
he he just had to carry insurancebecause every now and then a golf ball
would get loose and get out onBeltway eight and go through somebody's windshield and
he just had to cover all thatwhen it happened. Said it would have
cost him more to build netting tokeep the golf balls off of belt Way
(01:59:38):
eight. If I remember the storyis correct, it's been a long time
ago, but there was some somethingto do with that. Trying to think
of where else there might have beena facility like that. Let's just not
dwell on the past and what's gone. For heaven's sakes, we do have
still in this region some of thebest golf courses in the entire United States,
and there are a lot of them. I would that there are a
(02:00:00):
lot of them that don't get theacknowledgment they deserve, frankly, and I
wish they did. Where did thisthing go? Oh? There it is.
Let me get this leaderboard up fromthe Wells Fargo. The big boys
on the East coast swing out inCharlotte, North Carolina now at Quail Hollow,
(02:00:20):
Xanders Shawfley through two rounds is elevenunder par. That's nothing to sneeze
at, and he has opened afour shot lead over Rory McElroy and Jason
Day, either of whom could catchfire Shaffley. Shawfley had a sixty four
on Thursday, and that's where hegained all his strokes. The rest of
(02:00:42):
the guys underneath him I'm looking athere didn't miss by much, but that
sixty four was enough to vault Shawfleyinto that four shot lead over those two
and then five shots better than thesix unders, which are Taylor Moore and
sun Y A m all By himselfin sixth place, Colin Morikawa tied for
(02:01:03):
seventh. And then I'll stop becauseit's gonna take a while. Four under
par, se Sigala, Stefan Jaeger, Corey Connors, Taylor Pendrith, Lee
Hodges, and bionghun On all atfour under par. The rest of these
guys playing hard for the next twodays for a better check cut line on
(02:01:25):
this one, I can get downto it. Seems like everybody's still here.
No, we're good, We're good. Nevermind wells Fargo going on now?
And then, like I mentioned talkingto Troy Tutt, first weekend in
June, first full weekend in June, I guess it is or whatever,
seven through ten, bottom line, seven through ten, we're gonna have live
(02:01:46):
golf here at the Golf Club ofHouston. I really am looking forward to
this earlier. If you'd asked mea year and a half ago, when
all of this was just really gettingits feet under it, I would have
been maybe, maybe not. Butnow that it's a little bit more established
and it's actually coming to town. It's piqued my interest in many ways,
(02:02:11):
and I'm gonna spend as much timeout there as I can. I really
am. I want to see howthey do this. I want to see
how different it is and how howit impacts the people who are watching.
I think it's going to attract Ibelieve a younger crowd overall. The music
(02:02:31):
on the golf course, the speakersystems all throughout the it's a little more
laid back. Frankly, I'm kindof with Troy. I'm intrigued by the
shotgun start. The fifty four holesdoesn't really make that much difference to me.
It's only the sad part is it'sone less day, one fewer days,
(02:02:54):
I guess, one less day thatyou can go out there and watch.
But nonetheless, when you go outthere, if there's somebody you want
to watch, they're not going tobe far away from you for long because
everybody's starting at the same time andeverybody's going to finish at the same time
about five hours later. And thatthat tells me that they're taking their time.
(02:03:16):
They're not rushing these guys around thegolf course, and they don't have
to, as the the PGA Toursometimes does, to make sure they get
everybody out and around with tea timestarting at seven o'clock in the morning and
the last people off the course justbefore dark or even later if something comes
up and takes them off the coursefor a little while. It's different,
(02:03:38):
there's no question about it. It'svery different. But everybody who's playing on
the live golf format now on thelive golf circuit really good players. They've
got some of the best of thebest there's there are, And I like
I like the team idea. Ilike the trade idea. I didn't get
a chance to ask Troy how someof these players might act if they got
(02:04:01):
traded by they by somebody they thoughttheir captain, who they thought was their
good buddy. It's it's strictly business, I imagine, and I think it
would be just crushing to be tradedoff your team, although you would instantly
be welcomed by the team that gotyou. I think that both sides would
(02:04:23):
have to feel like they're getting valuefor their trades. It's gonna be fun,
and now that I understand how towatch it, it's gonna be even
more fun. I yeah, I'mgonna be out there as much as I
can. I think it's gonna begood. Checked off that trip, checked
off that box, that box inthat box. I'll find some more fun
stuff to talk about. Coming backfor this last segment, we are going
(02:04:43):
to take that last break of theprogram. We'll come back to wrap her
up in a little while. TheDoug Pike Show on Sports Talk seven ninety
ninety. This is Sports Talk sevenninety Houston, Sports online at sports seven
ninety dot com. Back back tothe Doug Fight Show. All right,
yeah, I got that man.Welcome back Doug Fight Show on spours Talk
(02:05:03):
seven to ninety. I got aboutnine or ten minutes. I was laughing
with Melbourne during the break about howhe lives. He lives close to this
little lake in Missouri City, andso do I. Where we are plotting
a trip to where I'm going tomeet him and his son over at that
lake, and we're going to introducehis son to catfish at least. And
(02:05:25):
I let him know that years ago, many years ago, probably ten years
ago now at least, when myson and one of his little buddies talked
me into taking him over there.I ended up watching a line, come
tight and say, he, oneof you guys grab that, and thinking
it's going to be a twelve thirteeninch catfish like the ones they're stalking in
there. Only when they reared backand set the hook on this fish,
(02:05:50):
it was substantially more, very clearlyso, and I thought, oh boy,
what do we got here? Andthe fight was on, and they
both were cheering each other and takingturns a little bit with it, and
I still couldn't identify what it was. I had an idea that there are
only a few things in that lakethat could have done that. But nonetheless,
(02:06:11):
when it finally showed itself, theywere really excited, as was I.
I was more nervous for them becauseI didn't want to lose this fish.
This was the biggest fish, byfar, that either one of them
had even caught at that time intheir lives. It was about a twelve
or fourteen pound carp and you'd havethought it was an eight hundred pound blue
(02:06:31):
marlin the way they were hooting andhollering, and this was giant to them.
It was almost as big as them. And so I got the thing
up and they got pictures of themwith it, and they never quit talking
about it. They they just yappedand yapped and yapped forever. And that's
the kind of fun thing, thekind of really fun thing about taking these
(02:06:53):
kids fishing in a little lake likethat. I know the state's stocking those
little bitty catfish a dog on.I also know that they're a big carpet
there now, and that that givesme something to hope for when I take
when I take Melvin and his sonover there. Oh what is this?
Mike weighs In. Had my windshieldknocked out at gus Wortham three weeks ago.
(02:07:16):
They need a taller net along numbernine. Oh man, I'm so
sorry. Holy cow, I'll tellyou this. Well, if it's been
a week or three weeks ago, yeah, you've already gotten your windshield replaced.
I had to have one replaced.I had a little tiny bing hurt,
(02:07:36):
A little rock hit my windshield abouta week ago. Now, man,
I thought, oh, no,you know how it is. You
just hold your breath and you cussa couple of times, and you start
scanning every inch of your windfield windshieldlooking for a crack. Every inch you're
looking at. I didn't see anything. Oh it's gonna be Okay, just
(02:07:58):
keep driving, let's go home. And when I finally got home, still
didn't see anything. The next morning, I got a six inch crack running
across the windshield from over in thatblack part where the all the sensors are
and all that stuff, and itgot bigger and bigger, and I finally
ended up getting on the phone withsomebody I was referred to by the guy
(02:08:20):
from whom I bought my son's littletruck. And as it turns out,
I'm gonna actually be endorsing them. They're called VIP Glass, And it was
a fantastic experience. I can't ye. I mean, they came right here
to the office and took care ofmy windshield in about less than two hours.
(02:08:41):
Did all the reprogramming too. That'ssomething. If you've got a newer
car and you've got all those littlelike rain sensors and all that in your
windshield, you're gonna have to haveit reprogrammed. The glass is less than
the reprogramming costs for these things. Now, thanks technology, thanks a lot.
Used to be, you knew youhad to turn your windshield wipers on
(02:09:01):
when it was raining, and thenif it slowed down a little bit,
you either slowed them down or youturn them off. Now the car is
going to do that for you, because you're not smart enough, I guess.
But anyway, you have to reprogramall that. I guess you don't
have to reprogram it. If youstill can tell the difference between light rain
and heavy rain, you can youcan manually operate your wipers. But anyway,
(02:09:24):
I got it all done, andthey were very easy to work with.
I'll be telling you more about them. You hear that sound, you
know, it's just it's heartbreaking,It's just, oh no, what a
hassle. And you got to thelast time it happened, I had to
go sit in this place on closeto where I live, but not that
close. Had to sit around thereand wait while they did it in their
(02:09:48):
shop. The good thing about VIP, like I said, is they just
come right to you. They've beendoing it for like fifteen twenty years,
I don't know, very long time. So anyway, you'll be hearing more
about that from me. Let mego talk to Brandon for a minute.
Hey Brandon, what's up, buddy? Brandon? Come on, man,
Brandon, where'd you go here? There you go? Thank goodness? So
what's going on. How'd you likethat game last night? Oh, I'm
(02:10:11):
not hearing you at all, Brandon. You're kind of coming and going.
Yeah, I tell you, hangup real quick, Brandon and call me
right back, because you're not comingin very clear. We got to start
over. Okay, I'm gonna dropyou off. Okay, call me back,
Brandon, and we'll bring you rightup and we'll take it to the
end. I don't mind it.It's just kind of an upward trend for
the Astros. They've won two ina row, and considering they're playing Detroit
(02:10:35):
and they ought to win the nexttwo as well. Hopefully, Boy,
you talk about a nice string topick all four wins in a row,
that would be uplifting. I waslaughing with Brian Lilima this week. I
was talking to him a little bitabout how one good game, we win
one game and everybody jumps up incheers that they've turned it around. I'm
very, very cautiously optimistic about thatteam. They have. On paper,
(02:11:01):
they have every bit of the tools, every tool in the box that they
need to be very successful. Nowthey've just got to put those tools to
work. And if we can getmore than one super hot bat for a
little while. That would be good. I'm seeing seeing improvement across the board.
We just got off to a goshawful start. That's all it comes
(02:11:24):
down to. We just got offto a horrible start. As baseball teams
go. We made a few blundersand airrors and goofs and mess ups.
We have a major we had amajor issue with pitching. I think that's
kind of working itself out as someof these guys come back, and if
we can get back to full steamahead, I think we'll be very well
(02:11:46):
positioned. Hey Brandon, let's tryagain. I can hooray. You got
to stick your head out the windowsometimes, you know, No, no
problem, that's great. Well, the phone you're on right now is fine.
How'd you like that game last night? Fantastic? I was watching at
the Space City on Network. Yes, likewise, likewise I like those earlier
(02:12:09):
starts too, because I'm I'm gettingto be so old. I gotta go
to bed early, I got toeat dinner early. Gosh, I'm just
send it like an old goat,Am I not? Holy cow? Yeah?
Five was early, so that's allright. I like that. I
do five ten even better. It'llbe done by the time by my bedtime,
I tend to stay up late.I don't know why it is.
(02:12:31):
I get up there and I getmyself, I get myself all all ready,
I wrapped my head around going tobed, and then I just I
find something to do for another hour. And it drives me crazy. Yep,
it drives me crazy. Man.So do you think the Astros have
turned it around now? Yes,like we did yesterday? Boy, Yeah,
you know what, let them winthree out of four they won,
(02:12:54):
they won the last game against theYankees. Now, let them win three
two out of three against Detroit andI'll like our trajectory at that point if
they start winning, siri, ifthey can take two out of three in
the series they have coming up,and they got a long stretch of games
coming up here, man, thatwould that would really right the ship.
(02:13:16):
We're playing Monday. Yeah, yeah, and we can do this. It's
such a long season. There's reallyno, there's really not. It's still
too small a sample size to knowwhat it's gonna look like in about July
or August, it really is,and hopefully we'll have we'll have righted the
(02:13:39):
ship, and there's gonna be somebodywho's up higher up the ladder than we
are. That's gonna take off andkeep running away from us too, and
we that's why we've got to startwinning games right now, because we've got
to keep up with whoever's running awayfrom us, and then hope we have
time to pass them. Holy Cal, Brandon, you and I are gonna
have to watch the Astros and androot them on the set. Noon,
(02:14:00):
buddy, thank you for calling.Ma. I gotta go check out now,
give a holler. Tomorrow we'll doit again, Bud audios. All
right, I gotta get out ofhere. Thank you all for for listening,
for listening, I really do appreciateit. I'm excited about lib golf
coming here. I'm excited about fishingright now. I'm excited about the prospects.
I got some kind of interesting informationon ducks and maybe even some geese
(02:14:22):
coming on back next year. I'dlove to see that fishings ride open,
bass trout well, not Galveston Bay. Galvason Bay is going to be fresh
for a month, probably, HolyCal. We'll talk about that some more
tomorrow too. All that and morebright and early tomorrow morning, well not
that early eight o'clock civilized start onThe Doug Pike Show. We'll be back
(02:14:45):
then, Stay safe, Happy Mother'sDay tomorrow, Audios.
