Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now here's Doug Pike.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
All right.

Speaker 1 (00:03):
Sunday edition of the program starts right now. I have
to type two words hey, and then I'll take care
of that and that, and now we can start the
show officially. Man, there's just this is such a great
time really to be alive in Southeast Texas. We have

(00:24):
all kinds of options and if you want to count
places you can drive to within two hours or four
hours or six hours. For some of you who are
more more comfortable around the behind the wheel all day long,
it seems like I used to be. I used to
be kind of where faux Pro is now where he

(00:44):
could he'll jump in a car truck while he's driving
a truck. He'll jump in his truck and drive three
hours to go do something fun. My rule back when
I was, and then turn around and drive right back
home that night. My rule as a as a younger
man was that if I had if I could get
to where I wanted to be in X number of

(01:07):
time and then drive home in that same amount of time,
if I had twice as long to spend doing what
I think was going to be really fun at that place,
usually the surf side Jetty back in the day. Then
I would make the drive even later in the afternoon,
in the summertime, when it wasn't going to get dark
until about nine thirty down there, I would. I'd leave

(01:29):
the house at six, be on the rocks at six fifteen,
stay till about eight thirty or nine, and then turn
around and drive back. Three hours of driving, three hours
of fish.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
And that was fine with me.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
It's a little tougher now as I accept my my
begrudge tray movement into a little bit a little bit more.
I've got to be careful where I am and what
I'm doing and when I eat and all that stuff.
Make sure I get my sleep and make sure I
eat right and exercise and do all of those things

(02:03):
that just came naturally, and I wouldn't well. My eating
habits weren't great when I was younger, but they're better now,
at least by the way. Frankie is back. Welcome back, Frankie.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Yeah, good to be back.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
So you went back to back weekends of were you
a participant? Were you were you standing at these weddings
or were there you just were in the in the
gallery at this one this last weekend, I was you
were up tuxedo and all.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Huh tuxedo?

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
And so now were you do you have a girlfriend
who talked you into doing these or were these your friends?

Speaker 3 (02:40):
No? No, these were just really good friends of mine. Okay.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
I was just gonna make sure you didn't have somebody
talk you into taking your turn next or something. No,
not yet. All right, well that's fine. Welcome back, man,
it's good to see you again. Yeah, Brett did a
good job. You had a set up very well. Thank
you for sending all of the information we needed to
get through this, of course. Yeah, there's no problem at all.
Where were these weddings, by the way, I'm just curious

(03:05):
and you don't have to tell me if they're secret?

Speaker 3 (03:07):
No?

Speaker 4 (03:08):
No, uh.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
First one was in Los Angeles? Oh wow, and then
this last one was in Indiana. Oh my word.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
You hadn't been home much, have you?

Speaker 5 (03:18):
No?

Speaker 1 (03:18):
No, oh my yeah, that's a lot of traveling to go.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Those have to be really good friends. Huh oh.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Yes, they're very good friends of mine, fair enough, and
you expect them to be down when it's their turn.
Huh oh yeah, yeah, yeah, just remind them of that
every now and then.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
Hey, man, can't wait to see you. I'll let you know.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Yeah, I when I was your age, well, no, I was,
I was older. My wife's a bit younger than I am,
and when when she was probably your age, just call it.
All of her friends were getting married too, and I
ended up as as the oldest well not the oldest guy.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
In the room.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
There were parents and whatnot, but I was one of
the older people there with a date, let's say, or
with my girlfriend at the time, and even my wife
as we in our early stages of our marriage. Yeah,
I was just that guy who nobody could quite figure
out why I was there. You know, too old to

(04:17):
be one of the bride'smaid's husbands, we guess that was wrong.
And too young to be the bride's dad. We think
we couldn't quite tell.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
It was different.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
Man, you didn't miss a lot. You didn't miss a
lot things. That deal season's coming gone now everybody's geared
up for ducking deer seasons and whatnot. And actually I'm
working on some really good prizes if I can get them,
for a resurrection of the Texas Temperature Game, which I

(04:50):
keep wanting to play. But the differences between the temperatures
the highs and lows really aren't significant right now, it'd
be kind of easy to guess them. I looked this
morning at the same map I always use, and the
difference between the high temperature in the state a little
while ago and the low temperature in the state a

(05:12):
little while ago may have been about the lowest I've
ever seen it.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
It was just twenty degrees different.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
There was a high of seventy five in two places,
one of them a curiosity.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
One of them I can tell you why it happened.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
Galveston's posting seventy five and Presidio way out there on
the western border of Texas, where there is a little elevation. Surprisingly,
also at seventy five degrees. The low in contrast fifty five.
That's in Bernie, right in the middle of the hill country,
And that doesn't surprise me at all. There's this little

(05:49):
faux coal front that's trying to push through. It's just
high pressure. There's not a whole lot of cold to it.
But we'll see some lows in the high sixties for
the next couple of days, and then it's gonna kind
of creep back up a little bit, but not too
terribly great weather If you like the past four or
five days, you're gonna love the next three or four.
It's gonna be a lot of fun. I've got golf

(06:09):
planning tomorrow. There's a media event to check out the
redoing of you know, I don't know if they want
want it talked about just yet or not, so I'll
leave it alone until I get back and can talk
about it. It's here, it's here in Houston, and one
of the big country clubs did a major redo, and
as it turns out, an old old acquaintance of mind

(06:32):
is now kind of running the show over there, So
I look forward to seeing him again in any event.
That Galveston temperature up mostly because our wind, after being
kind of more northeast than anything else yesterday, turned around
to the southeast and is just pushing that nice warm

(06:54):
air off the Gulf of Mexico, and the water itself
pushing that closer to shore. That warm water is pushed
closer to shore, temperatures rise.

Speaker 6 (07:03):
Now.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
The good news is the water doesn't look bad at
all down there. In fact, it looks very good.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
By the way, if you want to call, if you
got questions, Sundays are kind of wide open I got
a couple of things I want to talk about, but
if you want to start something, feel free seven one
three two one two five seven ninety or you can
email me Doug Pike at iHeartMedia dot com.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
What is he?

Speaker 1 (07:24):
Oh? Yeah, okay, yeah, Dan dump truck. Dan waited in
a little while ago. He sent me a picture yesterday
and as old as I am, I'm looking at this guy.
He's got giant sunglasses on and I couldn't I couldn't
quite tell who it was, but the two of them
were just standing there smiling in a selfie, and it
was Jose Cruz. I don't remember exactly where he said

(07:46):
he ran into him, but nonetheless, there he is right
there somebody's garage where that is, there's a big garage
door in the background, and anyway, anyway, he ran into
Jose Cruz.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
You know what, if you've got somebody cool you've run
into in your lifetime, out of our worlds now the
outdoors and golf worlds, we got to leave it there
because now, I don't want to do athletes unless unless
you ran into somebody like that at a golf tournament
something that that would qualify I guess i'd be curious
to know. So anyway, back to wherever. I don't even

(08:24):
remember where I was, but I'm gonna go now to
a video or to live video. I watched this morning
from the sixty first Street pier down in Galveston, and
I'm looking up and down the pier. It's fairly crowded,
because I want know what I was telling about telling
you about the water is actually calm down there, relatively,
so you could wadefish to surf this morning, and I

(08:44):
probably catch some fish. So I'm watching this video from
Saltwater Recon live video just twenty minutes ago, and there's
this little kid sitting there in a chair. Dad's brought
out two or three chairs and they've set up their
ice chests and there the rods are leaned up against
the pier railing, and this kid, who looks to be

(09:04):
about ten maybe eleven, is dead staring at his phone
while his rod.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
Is just boing, boring, boring, boying.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
The tips just bam bam bam, going down, down down, and.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
Clearly this kid's got a fish.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
The fish is hooked, but the fish isn't quite strong
enough to catapult that rod over the railing and I'm
waiting for somebody, and there are people all around him,
and somebody needs to tell this kid he's got a fish.
And finally I can't tell who, but somebody does, and
he grabs his rod and reel and a couple of

(09:40):
touristy looking moments later they manage. Somebody drops a little
dropnet down there and brings up a flounder that, if
I had to bet looking at the video, it was
kind of like, hmmm, I don't know if that's keeper,
but they nonetheless they The kid walked it over to
the ice chest. His little brother opens the ice chest,

(10:02):
and they're about to put it in there, trying to
get it off the hook, and lo and behold, flip flop,
flip flop. The fish comes off, bounces twice off the pier,
and push over the side back from whence it came.
I thought that was kind of a fitting ending, and
I hope that kid learned about twenty lessons. Number one,
if you're gonna fish fish, okay, don't just don't just

(10:25):
prop up a rod and then go back to looking
at your phone and playing candy Crush or whatever you're doing.
The little kids play candy crush Frankie. Yeah, yeah, is
that that one of their games? Okay? Do you no
had a boy making sure?

Speaker 3 (10:40):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
I've never actually seen the game played. I don't know
how it works, and I don't want to know doing
this is a puzzle game. I will never forget this
in the very infancy and I'll Tim, I'm coming to
you in one second, the very infancy of video games.
This company sends me one of their games and it's
it's a deering game, one of the originals. I don't

(11:01):
remember the name of it. I said, this is it
looks really this and this and this and this, and
the trees look really real. And I thought to myself,
I don't want to see a real tree. I'll look
out the window. I don't need a video game to
show me what a real tree looks like. Hey, Tim,
what's up man?

Speaker 4 (11:19):
Hey?

Speaker 7 (11:20):
How are you this morning?

Speaker 3 (11:21):
I am very well good good.

Speaker 7 (11:24):
You were talking about running into people, Yeah, well about
the biggest about the biggest person I ever ran into
was John Wayne.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
Oh wow, that's a good one.

Speaker 7 (11:35):
Yeah. It was at Disneyland.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
Okay.

Speaker 7 (11:39):
I grew up out up in southern California, all right,
and he was visiting This would be probably around the
seventy two.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
Oh man, Yeah he was. He was big time then,
wouldn't he.

Speaker 7 (11:52):
Yeah, yeah, he was visiting. He was there with his grandkids.
And you know what, I really kind of felt sorry for.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
The guy to himself.

Speaker 8 (12:02):
Could he no, No, I mean he handed out cards
so he didn't have to hand out sign everyone. Yeah,
so he had a whole bunch preprinted cards somewhere in
my junk.

Speaker 7 (12:15):
I got it. But uh, I really did kind of
feel sorry for him because of the people mobled him.
I almost asked him if if he wanted me to
bodyguard for him. But but he was a big man.
He Uh, he was a little bit shorter than I was.

(12:36):
I was at the time, like six four. Uh, he's
supposed to be six', five BUT i was a little.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
Taller.

Speaker 7 (12:46):
Yeah, YEAH i don't know, which AND i don't know
if he had his hair piece.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
ON i.

Speaker 7 (12:51):
Don't, NOW i want to talk about local.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
Fishing, Okay i've got just a minute or. So what you, got,
okay real?

Speaker 7 (13:01):
Quick any laws that you know about fishing in The
bayous and the creeks in and around the.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
CITY i don't believe that if you're on public. PROPERTY
i do believe that if you're on public property and
you can cast into that public, WATER i don't think
there's a. Problem the people to ask are game, wardens
and you can find their. Numbers their cell phone numbers are.
LISTED i think you know they carry state cell, phones

(13:28):
and if you can get one of them on the,
line they'll tell you exactly where you can and can't.
Fish and most of the, time these neighborhoods where there
might be fish have and they have their own lakes
and they're managed and. Whatnot they have signs everywhere that
say no. Fishing that being, said you drive through one

(13:49):
of those neighborhoods and almost all the time there's a
couple of little kids, fishing maybe an old man. Somewhere
and as long as you're not making a fool of
yourself and trying to take fish home out of those,
places USUALLY i think the worst you would get would
be a scolding from a constable who begrudgingly had to
come out and and answer the call and see who

(14:12):
was on the property and tell you to read the
sign and go.

Speaker 3 (14:15):
Home and you go. Home but as far as, yeah go.

Speaker 7 (14:19):
Ahead last question is invasu species of the. Water should
we destroy? Them?

Speaker 1 (14:31):
Telapia you are supposed. To i'm pretty sure tilapia are
on the list of catch and. Kill i'm not one
hundred percent, sure but that's something. Else you can look
that up At parks And Wallete. Department you know what
DO i do with? Telapia BECAUSE i remember there's a
there's a little drainage ditch behind some baseball fields over
Off beltway. Eight and there's a guy who listened to

(14:52):
the show a couple of years ago wrote me to
tell me that there were tons of telapia in, there
but that he understood that you're supposed to every time
you catch, one you're supposed to kill it because they are.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
Invasive all, right, WELL i really appreciate.

Speaker 7 (15:09):
It you have a great, day my.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
Pleasure.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
Yeah during the break, HERE i may try and look
up that tilapia question for.

Speaker 3 (15:15):
You all, Right Thanks?

Speaker 2 (15:16):
Tim all, right thank yeah? Man thanks You you bet all.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
Right we gotta take a little break.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
Here on the way, OUT i will tee it up
with shooters Corner Haarbarer highway at twenty Ninth street down
there In Texas. City that, is As i've told you many, many,
many many many. Times jerry AND, jtk the father and
son team who have been in that building for forty
plus years. NOW i bet that's close to most Of jay's.

(15:41):
Life he's not much older than.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
That jerry's a little. Older he's a lot.

Speaker 1 (15:45):
Older he's the one who started that company and one of
the best, gunsmiths well both of them, really because one
learn from the. Other but best gun SMITHING i know,
of at least In SOUTH i ten That i'm aware
of a fantastic bunch OF peo people who work there
with them when they're out guiding giant big game hunts

(16:06):
all Over North. America jerry's mostly down In South. Texas
jay's the one who typically goes off for the big
bears and elk and whatnot way up. North but anytime
anybody's in that store and the doors are open and
the lights are, on you can get any question you
want answered about, firearms about, shooting about, hunting you name.
It they can answer the. Question they can fix whatever's

(16:28):
broken on your. Guns they'll sell you a new, gun
a used, gun, Optics, Camo, ammo and all the boutique calibers.

Speaker 3 (16:35):
And anything else you want to.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
Shoot just a, fun old school gun store to go
hang out and talk about your shooting sports stories and
then sit around and listen to somebody else's for a
few minutes because they listen to. Yours you also usually
find law enforcement in there, too because anybody who wears
a badge for a living gets a discount At Shooters,
corner WHICH i think is pretty. Cool Palmer highway at

(16:58):
twenty Ninth, street forty plus years is in. Business The
Shooters corner T x dot com D Shooters, corner T
x dot. Com, Fie welcome back To Doug Pike shaw
On Sports talk seven nine. AM i was just tell, Him,

Frankie let's. Go, well But i'll tell you it BEFORE
i get To. Brandon so here's WHAT i found Out.
Tim first of, all on, salapia they the state encourage

(17:42):
you to keep and eat every one of them you,
catch no size, limit no bag, limit because they are
an invasive. Species get them out of the. Water you
can fish public. Water according to WHAT i researched any
any navigable, water which means, uh, there there's several different.
Definitions navigable by statute means if the stream or whatever

(18:03):
is at least thirty feet wide from its mouth to
wherever you're, fishing then that's navigable. Water there's also navigable in,
fact which means that it's consistently used by the public
for recreation or commercial. Purposes and then there's a little
bit more than. That but the bottom line is it
should Be. Okay the thing you'd need to remember that

(18:26):
you do have to have though as a grown, man
is a fishing. License you got to have. That in,
Fact i've got to make sure that there's a guy
who wants to go fishing with me and try and
catch some catfish in his neighborhood lakes where he has.
ACCESS i, don't but he can bring me in, there and,
ANYWAY i make sure he gets a license before we
go in, there BECAUSE i don't think that that water is.
Private i'm not, Sure, Okay, brandon tee it, up, Buddy good,

(18:52):

Speaker 5 (18:53):

Speaker 1 (24:35):
Guys it was destined to be sold from the first
time a ball was hit on. It and it was
a shame, too because it really was a nice setup
and with twenty seven holes it. Was it was a
very challenging track all the way. Around it was. Good
it was thanks for, thanks yeah you, too, man appreciate.
It all, right we're at break. Time let's take that.

(24:59):
Break can tell you About Wayne. Errington this is the
guy who two years ago about we were on the
phone talking about electric bikes briefly and just never nothing
ever happened to. That and then all of a, sudden
out of, nowhere a week ago or, SO i get
this call and, says, hey, MAN i got. This this
Is wayne. Again remember? Me, YEAH i remember. You, bicycles, yep,

(25:22):
bicycles only this time now there's one That i'm really excited,
about especially with hunting season coming. On this is A
he has all kinds of different electric bikes at his
shop up In Tomball Tomball. Parkway you can't miss. It
he has plenty of them in. There he even has
some three wheeled bikes for the older and slower and

(25:43):
less agile among.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
Us and, hey it's.

Speaker 1 (25:46):
Someday someday you'll be that way, too and you'll need
a three wheel. Bike but if you're looking for something
to ride up and down the beach on chasing fish
On Padre, island if you're looking for something to ride
through the woods to get very quiet that lead to
your deer. Stand halfway across the, lease there's a bike
called The. Rambo it's called The Rambo. Hellcat AND i

(26:09):
got to test ride one of those last week down.

Speaker 3 (26:11):
Here he came down for an.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
Expo called fifty Plus expo In Stafford center and he
had one of those with. Him he, said you want
to take a test, Ride and before he could get
the words out of his, Mouth i'm, Like, yeah where's my?
Helmet and he offered me a. HELMET i accepted that.
HELMET i put it on my. Head this was after the.
Expo put it on my hat, head got on that

(26:33):
bike and just was amazed at how simple this thing
was to, operate how much power it. HAD i had
it on the lowest power, setting and he even told,
me he, said, look this is your first time on
a knee. Bike don't turn it up because if you
do and you start peddling a little, bit it's gonna
knock your head.

Speaker 3 (26:52):
Back SO i, didn't BUT i.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
CAN i can just see myself the whole TIME i
was riding around this big giant parking lot with nothing going,
on just counting the stripes in the parking. Lot my
mind is on the, beach riding up and, down stopping
WHAT i see blow. Ups my mind is in the,
woods slipping back into the back back back. Woods there's
even a night vision setting on the headlights where you

(27:19):
can go to green on them and you're not going
to scare, anything but you'll be able to see what's
out in front of. YOU a fantastic opportunity to elevate
your hunting. Game this is kind of like having a
flat skiff instead of a v bottom boat when you're
going deer, hunting or when you're going red. Fishing you
want the, best then get on one of These rambo

(27:41):
bikes and see what they can do for.

Speaker 3 (27:44):
You all wheel drive.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
Too they've got Separate this hellcat has a separate motor
and big fat tires for all the traction you could possibly.
Need he likes to say that if it can get,
traction it could climb a.

Speaker 3 (27:58):
Wall AND i do.

Speaker 1 (27:59):
Not Air Ride bikes is the name of the company
a r r ide air ridebikes Dot. Com go look them,
Up go talk To. Wayne he'll put you on one
of those, things and you'll be The you'll be the
quietest guy slipping through the woods this.

Speaker 3 (28:15):
Season air ridebikes Dot.

Speaker 1 (28:16):
Com all, right welcome Back Doug Pike show On Sports
talk seven. NINETY i Hope tim's still, listening because during
the BREAK i went over to my desk and grabbed
a copy of a book that anybody who wants to
fish public water Around houston and really Around.

Speaker 3 (28:36):
Southeast, texas this is a book you need to.

Speaker 1 (28:39):
Have it was written by a guy Named ROBERT. H,
McConnell and it is let me see how many pages it,
is just to give you an idea of where we're going.
HERE i get out of the index and look at
numbered pages of actual. Information that's going to be about
three hundred and sixty pages. All, now don't be don't

(29:04):
be put off by the fact that the title is
Fly Fishing houston And Southeastern. Texas because if you, just
if you just put your thumb over the word, fly
now it says what most of you want to, do
and that is Fishing houston In Southeast. Texas and all
the way through this book there are places and descriptions

(29:29):
and special notes and lower. Recommendations now most of this
is for fly fishing once, again but that's. Okay just
every time you see the word, fly just scratch it
out if you don't fly, fish and it'll be just.
Fine it's an, amazing amazing resource that will put. You

(29:49):
i'm just looking at this little it says urban fly, fishing,
Okay and inside ninety Nine i'm looking between if you
take let's say they Take highway six to the south
and then out to ninety nine and around ninety nine
up Through tomball And spring and all of that, one, two, three, four, five, six,

(30:11):
seven like a dozen or more places that are legitimate fishing,
spots some of them on little, creeks some of them
on little, lakes but all of them legitimate. SHOTS i
wonder what number thirty five. Is that's down by Pear.
Land there's another sugar. Land now that one's There's, OH

(30:31):
i know where that one place, Is Holy. Cow this
one That i'm looking at right, NOW i know exactly
where it is because it's Where Joe doggett AND i
used to go fish for grasscarp with fly rods and
we were that's On Brais. Bio the gartt that's On Brais.
Bio actually he shows three. Spots those are in all

(30:52):
three of those. SPOTS i know very well Because joe
AND i used to go down there on our lunch
hours during some sometimes during when the water level was
right In Brace, bio go down there and catch those
grass carp on a fly. Rod and you could just
as easily catch them if you wanted to do them
on a little spinning rod with kernels of corn or
something like. That you'd load a handful of corn into

(31:13):
a ziplock bag and just put it over your shoulder
and go down there with a handful of hooks.

Speaker 3 (31:18):
And site cast to these grasscarp in.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
There there were tons of them back in the day
When this is back when they were released Into Lake
conroe and told and whoever was releasing them had their
fingers crossed behind their, backs, said oh, no these are triploid.
Fish they won't ever, Reproduce and all of a sudden
there's bazillions of, them and somehow some of them wound

(31:42):
up in Brace bio and they were a lot of.
Fun but, anyway that's the, book and anybody who's looking for,
places this would be a great father son, book or
mother daughter book or mother son a father daughter whatever,
kids a family, place a family book to have around

(32:03):
for a family that likes to fish and likes new.
Places just bring everybody around the dinner table On tuesday Or. Wednesday,
hey let's go fishing On. Saturday somebody go get the
book and let's go someplace we've never. Been and you'll
be able to do that for the next five years
with just this one. Book it would be an awesome

(32:23):
resource for. Anybody And i'm sure there are used versions
or used editions of it. Online i'm sure you can
also get a new, one probably at the fly shops around,
here because the information in there is still as valid
as it was when it was. WRITTEN i doubt that
any of those places is just no longer, there and
there's some surprisingly good fish to be caught in little

(32:45):
little pocket waters what they call it up. North little bitty,
streams little bitty, lakes and little bitty places now a
little bitty. Lakes, ponds if you, will don't typically produce
a lot of big fish because there's just not enough.
FOOD i remember When mac, mchun the guy who Started
Lake Management, services AND i And joe would go fish

(33:07):
some of the lakes he, managed and we were kind
of his test crew to make sure that his efforts
to grow giant bass in some of these private lakes
were paying. Off it was a mutually beneficial, relationship believe.
Me and he would tell us that it would take
it takes at least eight or ten acres of water

(33:28):
to really grow a healthy population of bass in all age.
Classes they've all got to have something to, eat and
it takes about ten acres of water to do. THAT
i think that was the number he gave. Us it
doesn't matter to. Me i'll fish in a. Bucket if
somebody tells me there's a fish in a bucket of,
Water i'm gonna find a way to catch. It and
that started WHEN i was a little bitty kid my

(33:49):
grandparents' house down In. Florida there were these little tiny
fish that lived underneath the little oyster. Shells they were
some of them were as short as an inch. Long
AND i found number twenty two and number twenty four
sized hooks and a fly fishing shop down, there AND
i got some of, those AND i would sit out
on that sea wall AND i would use my little

(34:09):
pocket knife to cut half a shrimp leg off and
use that for bait on that tiny little hook and
catch those inch long. Fish AND i was just addicted to.
IT i still. Am i'd do that again IF i
could get down.

Speaker 3 (34:21):
There that was so. Fun they would poke.

Speaker 1 (34:23):
Their little heads, out, thinking, HEY i don't know IF
i should eat, this and then they couldn't resist because
it smells so, good and then, BAM i got another.
One it would take one hundred of them to fill
a tea, cup maybe two.

Speaker 3 (34:33):
Hundred but it was fun.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
Memories Black Horse Golf club up there on the north west.
Side take two ninety To Fry, Road hang a south
about three miles.

Speaker 3 (34:47):

of you who are compass. Challenged and once you turn
into that, gate anybody in, there everybody you can find
in there who's wearing a name, tag that's who's going
to help you have a good. Time Black horse has
been around for close to twenty five years, now plus

(35:09):
or minus one or. Two and this year they made
the first major CHANGE i think they've ever made when
they took The South course. Private The North course still
there for daily. FEE i love, STILL i still love
playing that golf course BECAUSE i can really air out
driver and not get in too much trouble with it
on most of the. Holes anytime you want to go up,

(35:30):
there if you're by, yourself go up there and just
jump in with a threesome somewhere and play from whatever
teas they play for. Them unless unless you're my age
and they're all twenty, five maybe you, say, Look i'm
gonna have to play up.

Speaker 3 (35:42):
Here can't keep up with you, guys But i'll play
along with. You great.

Speaker 1 (35:46):
Fun great to do, That great to be there for a,
tournament because the tournaments they have can get giant groups
of people out and all at. Once, really they've got
plenty big practice, range a great teaching facility at the far.
End if you're game stinks and you don't want it
to stink, anymore go down there and get some, lessons
for heaven's, Sakes South Course, private all kinds of amenities,

(36:09):

up to and including both courses, there both courses At
Golf club Of houston And Blackhawk Golf club Or Blackhawk
Country club excuse me down there In. Richmond five for
one not a bad, deal and the membership options are

(36:32):
very reasonable still in this kind of first year of
taking it that. Way Black Horse Golf club dot com

(37:17):

Speaker 3 (37:19):
Laughing it says here about.

Speaker 1 (37:22):
Nineteen eighty eighty one Teenage scott that was him From
pasadena playing Glen brook as a, single played up on
three guys on the third. Hole they waved me up
to the. GREEN i thought they looked. Familiar, Frankie you're
gonna appreciate this one AS i was as a as
a music aficionado AS i was, approaching and then realized

(37:44):
it Was Mickey, Gilly Johnny lee And Johnny. Paycheck how
about that for a threesome in front of you playing?
Golf fairly wild, round he, says for a teenager first
time seeing multiple whiskey bottles out of golf, BAGS i

(38:07):
percent surge True, mojo after a long career in the airline,
industry throws, out this is good name. Dropping it really
Is Clint, Eastwood Ronald, reagan And Willie. NELSON i, says

(38:27):

beautiful beautiful picture yesterday AND i commented on it and
he was replying to, that that's okay, there that's. Okay
there his, nephew whose, Nephew dan's got me? Something oh, yeah,
Okay and NOW i get.

Speaker 5 (38:59):
It.

Speaker 2 (38:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (38:59):
Yeah that was at a tire store where he ran
Into Jose cruz Because jose's nephew is running The West
Paarland tire And automotive next to The ol'reilly store that
you get a lot of you get a lot of
good local information when you do a radio show about
different parts of. TOWN i wouldn't have known, that But

(39:19):
i'm GLAD i do. NOW i actually, STOPPED i, think
in one of, those and it may have been in
that store WHEN i had a tire pressure light come
on on the way home from the beach ONCE i
was just about there AND i needed to get that tire.
Checked i'm almost almost one hundred percent sure it's exactly
WHERE i, stopped and they were very nice and took

(39:39):
care of me really well seven one three two one
two five seven. Ninety email Me dougpike at iHeartMedia dot.
COM i have been, really really blessed in this. Profession
i'm in to have met some of my heroes out
of all of the WORLDS i, cover and it's really been.

(39:59):
Fun and some of it was by, accident kind of
like what happened To. Scott you run into people on
golf courses or at charity. Event the charity events are
low hanging. Fruit you go to a celebrity golf tournament
and you expect to see some of, them and, man
a lot of these guys you can, tell especially the
ones that ARE nfl. Related those, guys you can tell

(40:23):
that THE nfl beat their bodies up pretty, hard a
lot of, them some of them more than, others but
especially the. Linemen they're wearing kneebraces. There they're hobbled. Up
their hands just look like they're if you told them
to hold up five, fingers they couldn't make two of
them point in the same. Direction their their, knuckles their

(40:46):
hands just beat up from playing that. Game that's that's
a that's a tough sport to be. In The baseball
players they're still, pretty they're still pretty, clean they're still
pretty snazzy, looking and that many of, them if not,
MOST i would, say tend to hold on to their.
Physicality they stay in shape a little bit, LONGER i,

(41:06):
think just because it may be. Easier basketball, PLAYERS i
run into a bunch Of Robert. OR i don't know
how Tall Robert orry, is BUT i know he's a
lot taller than. Me AND i actually got to do
a wade fishing trip In West bay With Robert ori
in our, group And i'll never forget it because he's out.

(41:28):
There he had kind of gotten out at one spot
and we had gone to another spot with another, player
and we went back to Where ori and his crew
were because we were going to jump out with. Them
they were catching more, fish AND i look out and
there he, is and he's like waist. Deep he's waist.
Deep so and it may have Been James, Plogg i'm not,
sure BUT i and somebody a little shorter than me

(41:51):
pile out of the boat and start walking Toward robert
and we couldn't get within fifty yards of him without, Drowning,
like holy, cow how tall are you? Dude and he
was out there having a blast catching a few. Fish,
YEAH i don't want to start name, dropping, because LIKE i,
Said i'm truly blessed That i've met a lot of

(42:11):
very interesting. People and when you can get them away
from talking about their profession and get them talking about
the things that they liked to do in the off,
season the things they like to do on a day
off when they get, one, rarely when that's when they
really settled. In and the best EXAMPLE i ever had

(42:33):
Was Jack. Nicholas i've talked about it. Before he was
answering questions about some wine company he'd gotten involved, with
AND i was in the same room with all the
media who were all asking him about getting into the wine,
business or what was your favorite golf course or what
was the best shot you ever, hit just all this
stuff about golf and, wine golf and, wine and his
handlers are pulling him out of the, room and he

(42:56):
turned to me BECAUSE i hadn't said a word, yet
and he, said did you have a, Question AND i, said, yes,
sir as a matter of, FACT i.

Speaker 3 (43:02):
DO i understand you like to.

Speaker 1 (43:04):
Fish and he sat back down and shoed his handlers,
away and he AND i just quietly talked about fishing
for about ten, minutes and nobody else in the room
had a. Clue we might as well have been speaking
a foreign. Language it was, amazing and all of them
had gotten pretty much the. ANSWERS i could have guessed
what he was going to say about the. WINE i

(43:26):
could have guessed in many cases what he was saying
about his golf. Career but then when it came to,
fishing he was ready to sit down and. Talk AND
i really appreciated, that AND i think he did. Too
let's take a little break here on the way. Out
i'm gonna tell you About Carter's, country sixty plus years of,
guns ammo and hunting. Stuff they don't sell tennis, shoes

(43:50):
they don't sell golf, balls they don't sell barbecue pits
or any of that stuff exercise. Equipment they sell, guns
ammo and hunting. Stuff and at the store On treshwig up,
there just north Of Intercontinental, airport on On Treshwig, road

(44:31):
protection go right out on the range and test fire that.
Thing if you can't hit the broadside of a, barn

you can, shoot go out there and enjoy yourself with
your brand new, gun, GUNS ammo and hunting. Stuff red
tag sails on hundreds.

Speaker 3 (44:49):
Of items right.

Speaker 1 (44:50):
Now try to kind of roll over the, inventory out
with the old end with the, new but it's still
good new, stuff most of which you'll probably want and
some of which you might Actually going into hunting, season
we only have a couple of weeks before this thing tips,
off and if you're not, ready you're just not.

Speaker 3 (45:06):
Ready get up, there burn some, powder go through the.

got three of them around town and a great online,
presence they also have big game hunting on several ranches
In North, america big private ranches where you and anybody
else you want to drag with you can go have
a tremendous. Experience i've been to three of their. Ranches

(45:33):

Experience carterscountry Dot com is a, Website carterscuntry dot.

Speaker 3 (45:41):

why it looks like it, does because it's a train
wreck right. Now let me see IF i. CAN i
want to get to it quickly because it was. Interesting
i'm glad the guy who won it won, it AND
i want to make sure THAT.

Speaker 3 (46:32):

don't know Why Xander shaffley ended up.

Speaker 3 (46:42):
Winning by the, way let's just get. It get cut
to the.

Speaker 1 (46:44):
Chase shawfley at nineteen under. Par he shot seven under
par yet well kind of, yesterday, today whatever you want
to call, it On sunday and ended up Beating grazerman
by one. Shot graysman shot six. Under he's gonna he's
gonna be somebody for. Sure he's a good.

Speaker 3 (47:05):
Player. UH i don't think.

Speaker 1 (47:06):
It's gonna take him long to to find his way
into the winter. Circle Thor bornson sixteen under in third.
Place canaiyah fourteen under uh and he shot nine under par, today,
yesterday whatever you want to call. It, uh but still
that he had too big a hill to climb. Unfortunately
let's tell you. What let's get out of that because

(47:27):
it's it's kind of halfway around the. World congratulations To.
Showfley Rick, bie there you, Are?

Speaker 3 (47:34):
Rick what's?

Speaker 5 (47:34):
Up?

Speaker 1 (47:34):
Man?

Speaker 2 (47:36):
Good was just uh fonding to our text. Messages, yeah
about THE uh topic? Yesterday your caller that called in
about the uh the cattle syrup mucket syruped us versus
home being harmful To, yeah whether or.

Speaker 1 (47:56):
Not deer can handle. It, yeah what do you?

Speaker 2 (47:58):
Know, well you know they Have I'm i'm around them a. Lot,
Sure and and he was. Correct some have things in,
it you, know for, flies, fly some big, problems, ticks
things like. That and it's a mineral lickus what it.
Is and when it comes in a, tub big black,
tub you see him a. Lot you start, looking you'll see. Them.

(48:21):
Yeah in my, travels the places THAT i work with
managed sell. Whatever ninety percent of these these places are
very aggressively. Hunted and there are also a lot of
them have a lot of cattle on. THEM i Don't
i've never heard or seen a problem with deer in
a in a syrup. TUB i see him walk right

(48:43):
by and not even pay attention to. It, Yeah, uh
that's never been a. Problem. Uh to answer his question
that he had mentioned about, copper that you couldn't give
it to. Sheet the reason you can't but this mental
in this. Tub the reason you can't have sheep on

(49:04):
it is because there's copper in in this mineral tub
one of the. Ingredients and sheets liver for whatever, reason
can't process. Copper now there is one thing that's in
a lot of those tubs and that you might want
to check. On AND i think it's called so selenium.

(49:26):
S i think it's SPELLED S E L. E now
that that is a actually a really useful mineral for,
Humans i'm.

Speaker 3 (49:41):
Not i'm not licking that.

Speaker 9 (49:42):
Tub.

Speaker 2 (49:43):
Man WELL i know, That i'm just saying. It i'm not,
either ALTHOUGH i have carved with. It that's. Millennium it's
also what gets me is it's, really uh used a
whole lot in technology and.

Speaker 1 (50:01):
Processors oh, yeah oh, yeah that's Where i've.

Speaker 2 (50:04):
Heard, yeah, okay, yeah BUT i didn't know it was
an essential thing for human, being But i've read it
down on one of the trading. Magazines but now that
is harmful to deer for some. REASON i can't. Remember
if it's hurts their, kidneys their their digestive system or.
Whatever so you know that might be something you look,

(50:25):
at your concerned for. It but, man forty five years
have been in farms and ranches and cattle and hunting
and all of, That i've never seen a problem with
the deer having any kind of conflict or an owner
or a lease. Holder you know happens with a deer
with a mineral that being out there for cattle that's
not harm.

Speaker 1 (50:45):
Deer you, KNOW i wonder if we know so much
now about these different minerals they need they don't. Need
AND i just popped up AN ai little thing about
selenium and deer and it, says, yes too much selenium
can harm, deer but it's also an essential. Nutrient excessive
amounts can lead to chronic selenium, toxicosis causing symptoms like,

(51:05):
anorexia weight, loss lameness as seen in white tailed deer
heard where liver selenium concentration was, high on and on
and on it.

Speaker 3 (51:13):
Goes, so, yeah they need, it but they can't have too.

Speaker 1 (51:17):
Much so, honestly one hundred years, ago when deer were
kind of on their, own and, well not one hundred
let's take it back forty fifty years when we really
started seeing the explosion of deer in the hill. COUNTRY
i don't think anybody was checking them for having too much.
Selenium they were just letting them.

Speaker 2 (51:35):
GROW i didn't yell. IT i was just reading a
real estate farming. Wrench yeah. MAGAZINE i read that. Here
well that's.

Speaker 1 (51:43):
Interesting i'm, glad But i'm glad you.

Speaker 3 (51:45):
Did but you.

Speaker 2 (51:47):
Know the thing, is it's like. Anything IF i go
google is a lollipop good for? You i'll find a
hundred reasons you need you need to suck on a,
Lollipop and THEN i can switch over AND i can
find a hound of reasons why it's harmful to.

Speaker 3 (52:03):
Suck, honestly you're so, right, man no matter what it.

Speaker 1 (52:07):
Is AND i get all these pop ups and these
little reels and whatever's telling me that something's great for,
me and then tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (52:17):
It tells me it's bad for.

Speaker 1 (52:18):
Me and then too much of, this too little of,
that and it's it's becoming almost. Overwhelming AND i think
it's a source of, real legitimate stress for a lot.

Speaker 3 (52:28):
Of people because they get these seeds planted in their.

Speaker 1 (52:31):
Head and almost every every DOCTOR i interview for fifty
plus that this question can come, up or this statement
can come, UP i throw it in there IF i have,
time say what do you think about people spending a
lot of time on the internet trying to self? Diagnose
and as politely as they, can they kind of, say,

(52:53):
well they're doing themselves more harm than good by not
just talking to a.

Speaker 3 (52:58):
PROFESSIONAL i tend to.

Speaker 1 (53:00):
AGREE i want my doctor to tell me what's best for,
me not some guy in a lab coat on On.

Speaker 2 (53:07):
Facebook, Well i've come to the conclusion that if it tastes,
bad it's probably good for. Me so that's WHAT i.

Speaker 1 (53:15):
Eat you, Know that's that's one way to get. Through,
yet who was? IT i think one of the doctors
actually was talking about having colorful things on your. Plate
you need like four or five colors on your. Plate
and so IF i eat a whole box of those
push up, pops that's the balance.

Speaker 3 (53:35):
Meal maybe.

Speaker 2 (53:36):
Not, Hey, rick it's always it's. Got it's got red
dye number.

Speaker 1 (53:43):
Two and oh, yeah these dyes are they need to go?
AWAY a lot of those. Are they've been they were
proved harmful a long long time, ago and they're still
in half of what we're.

Speaker 3 (53:52):
EATING i hope we can fix some of. THAT i really. Do,
man it's gonna be.

Speaker 2 (53:56):
Hard bottom line is bottom line in, summer this conversation,
is if you're out on your deer ranch you see
a mineral lick, bucket just don't lick.

Speaker 1 (54:05):
You, yeah, amen let's just leave it at, That, rick
that sound, advice my.

Speaker 3 (54:09):
Friend.

Speaker 1 (54:10):
Audios oh, lordy we got in the weeds pretty. Fast
on all that didn't we this good. Information i'm glad
he looked it, up And i'm glad he called this
morning because it had kind of slipped off my. Radar but,
yeah those licks for cattle are out there for a,
reason and there are some things in them that hurt.

(54:31):
SHEEP i don't think we have too much sheep hurting
going on around, here but the, DEER i guess their
own bodies will tell them when they have enough selenium
and when they, don't BECAUSE i don't. Know in, fact
IF i saw a deer that was suffering from chronic

(54:51):
selenium toxicosis with symptoms of, anorexia weight, loss, Lameness i'd
be thinking chronic wasting. Disease i'd be THINKING, cwd not
toxicosis from too much. Selenium AND i would bet that
the symptoms look, very very, Similar AND i wonder if

(55:15):
if there's ever.

Speaker 3 (55:16):
WELL i guess that they do CONFIRM.

Speaker 1 (55:18):
Cwd cases before they make any judgment and or take any,
Action BUT i would be willing to bet that if
there are some cases of that out, there that's the
first presumption that's going to be made by somebody who's,
observing because it would certainly look if it walks like
a duck and quacks like a. Duck everybody's gonna think
it's a duck until they find out it's a. Goose

(55:41):

the golf reviews back. THEN i was his his wingman
going down there to judge these places as only a
couple of chops from the newspaper could judge a quality golf.

quality of, play about the everything they have to offer down.
There they've got great instruction FROM Jj woods and his
crew at the big ten building next to the driving,

Speaker 1 (01:05:45):

manufacturing facility somewhere here in this. Country that kind of
was a big deal and may impact the availability of
aluminum for a little. While i'm not sure one hundred.
Percent going back To Captain, SCOTT i got news from.

Com On Sports talk seven ninety The Dougpike, show thank
you for.

Speaker 3 (01:10:33):
LISTENING i certainly do appreciate.

Speaker 1 (01:10:34):
IT i talked to yesterday a little bit about junior
golf and HOW i felt like there should be more
opportunity for some of these, juniors especially the ones who
have high, potential and my concern AND i want to
bring this back up again today so that if any

(01:10:57):
of you have a son or daughter who is interested,
golf And i'm not talking about six and seven year,
Olds i'm talking about young, TEENAGERS i would say at
least who are going to be able to take advantage
of What i'm about to tell. You but the concern
THAT i raised yesterday was that golf always has, been

(01:11:19):
and still is to a great, degree not an easy
sport to get into financially because it costs money to.
Play it costs money to get, Clubs it costs money
to get golf balls and shoes and.

Speaker 3 (01:11:33):
Everything you need a range.

Speaker 1 (01:11:35):
Finder, now long gone are the days where you had
The they still have the plates in the fairways at
most golf courses that'll tell you two hundred and one
to fifty and one, Hundred but it used to.

Speaker 3 (01:11:49):
BE i, know WHEN i was playing a.

Speaker 1 (01:11:50):
Lot out At Bear, creek there were these particular bushes
that were there at two hundred and one fifty and
one hundred on each side of the, fairway and from
there you could kind of eyeball it and walk it
off to your ball and figure out where you. Were
now you almost have to have a range finder unless

(01:12:11):
you've GOT gps on the carts that can help you
figure out where you. Are but the long and the
short of it is there's money, involved, okay and a
good bit of, it and especially to if you're going
to try to play, competitively because you And i'm talking
about as the families of these, kids the better they,
become the more competition they need to put themselves in

(01:12:36):
front of to see just how good they really can.
Be and that's going to involve getting on an, airplane
flying around like Your, frankie going to weddings every. Weekend
you're going to have to invest in all of, this
and a big part of that expense to get a
good player at thirteen or, fourteen to become a really

(01:12:58):
good player at seventeen or eighteen and then go on
to college and potentially even get into professional golf comes
in the instruction they, need which needs to be pretty
regularly offered and from somebody who knows what they're. Doing
So i'm talking about that yesterday and kind of bemoaning
the fact that bemoaning how hard it is to get

(01:13:20):
into that for the average. Family and lo and behold
my good Friend tommy O'Brien from out At, blackhawk who
was named one of the top fifty teachers in the
state this, Year thank you very much By Golf. DIGEST
i believe it was hats off to him for. That
he called to let me know that in, fact amongst the,

(01:13:42):
best some of the best instructors he's ever met and.
Known there is effort to get these really promising young
talents off to a good, start and a lot of
these a lot of these instructors will offer at least
some if not a, lot but some on the house

(01:14:06):
instruction to make sure that these kids get the tools
they need to become to go from being good young
golfers to great young golfers and then from. There and
kind of Like tommy was, saying most of these, older
older instructors and very high level instructors who are doing
some gradis, works they're doing some free, teaching get it

(01:14:31):
back when those young kids make it to the prosy and.

Speaker 3 (01:14:36):
They don't have to hit a lot of home.

Speaker 1 (01:14:38):
Runs if they're giving, lessons let's, say giving an occasional
lesson to half a dozen, kids.

Speaker 3 (01:14:45):
And even one of, them even one of.

Speaker 1 (01:14:47):
Them gets into professional golf at any decent, level they'll
make that money back because then they can start charging
these young, people and they developed a rapport and they do.
It they don't do it do it for the. MONEY
i don't, THINK i really. DON'T i think the the
the intention is legitimately, benevolent and they want these kids to,

(01:15:10):
excel and they want to make sure they have a
chance to. Excel the money at the end is just
that's that's the cherry on The. Sunday, okay that's that's
something that may or may not ever come to. Pass
but they the good, instructors the best, instructors and AND
i Put tommy in this class Because i've known him
since he was in his twenties and he's not. Anymore

(01:15:32):
the best instructors out there are so passionate about what
they do that they they don't mind taking a little
they don't mind stepping away From, oh this is my.

Speaker 3 (01:15:46):
JOB i got to make a ton of.

Speaker 4 (01:17:21):
TALKING i got this, DANG i got this. Truck my
phone pairs up sometimes sometimes it. Doesn't it's not, bad,
Man i'm gonna tell you right. Now Dick harmon gave
more free lessons to kids than anybody who ever.

Speaker 1 (01:17:33):
Lived, yeah probably.

Speaker 4 (01:17:34):
So and he And dick was you, know he was
the one of a kind. Guy, YEAH i was, HERE
i was hearing you, talk and you know he would
he probably gave away as much instruction as he charged
for and you, know bless his, heart he died. Young you,
Know dick was only in the fifties when he passed. Away,
yeah BUT i do that with kids. Too even in

(01:17:55):
my summer, CAMPS i, HAVE i give. Scholarships you, KNOW
i got. CHURCHES i got church which is Around katie
That i'll call and, say, hey if you got you,
KNOW i let all my employees kids go to the,
camps if they're on the maintenance, crew, whatever, grandkids, kids,
whatever they can come to my summer. Camps and you, KNOW.

Speaker 2 (01:18:12):
I charged three hundred dollars a week for you, know
kids to go to that. Camp So i'll have you.

Speaker 4 (01:18:17):
Know weight staff at the club and kids on the maintenance,
crews kids and. Grandkids So i'm, yeah that's That's but you're,
right people who like to teach the same Way i've given, away,
well you know it's probably.

Speaker 1 (01:18:35):
You, know you're doing it for the right reasons, Too,
lane because golf has given you a great, life and
it's a. Man same kind of same with.

Speaker 3 (01:18:44):
ME a little.

Speaker 1 (01:18:45):
BIT i WISH i had MORE i could. Go the
last Thing i'm going to do is give anybody. Lessons
i'm going to tell you that right, NOW i got
to find something ELSE i can, give maybe a sleeve
of golf balls or, something because they don't want my.

Speaker 3 (01:18:55):
Lessons.

Speaker 1 (01:18:55):
Man but, Yeah i'm really the MORE i talk about,
this the MORE i hear about people who are giving
back like you, are and making sure that that people
who want genuinely want the, instruction generally want to get,
better that they can get it somewhere without having to
pay an arm and a.

Speaker 3 (01:19:12):
LEG i like, that. MAN i do, Well i've got.

Speaker 4 (01:19:14):
It i've got a group of members out Of meadowbrook
and we've are about fifty guys that kind of play
in our. Game and If i've got a kid who
comes and you, know these parents have got some challenging
financial issue and he's playing with you, know he's playing
with clubs that are you, know should be in The,
smithsonian and just.

Speaker 2 (01:19:32):
Send out an.

Speaker 4 (01:19:32):
Email you, know, HEY i got a fourteen year old kid.
Here anybody got any old stuff you know that they
want to get rid, Of and before you, know my
office is.

Speaker 2 (01:19:40):
Full yeah, People, yeah, yeah here's a set of.

Speaker 4 (01:19:42):
Titlest IRONS i played with five years. Ago here's, three
here's a, driver here's. Putters and, SO i, mean, golfers you,
know by, nature are pretty giving. PEOPLE i mean THERE'S
i bet there's more money raised in around golf than any.

Speaker 2 (01:19:56):
Other sport that there. IS i, mean the The Houston
open has given mill millions and millions and. Millions, yeah and.

Speaker 3 (01:20:06):
With no.

Speaker 1 (01:20:07):
Reluctancy there's no reluctancy either WHEN i WHEN i talk
to people, about, hey have you got some old clubs
you could give to a.

Speaker 3 (01:20:14):
KID i, know if they've got, THEM i get.

Speaker 1 (01:20:16):
THEM i had a good relationship With Taylor made for
a long, time the one of the guys In carlsbad
who was one of their pr. PEOPLE i was his
only left handed, friend, Okay and so every time something
new came, OUT i was the first one to get
the left handed version of that club or that putter
or whatever it. Was AND i turned around and would

(01:20:39):
give a lot of that stuff away to lefties because
it was especially hard for.

Speaker 3 (01:20:43):
Them i'd see.

Speaker 1 (01:20:44):
Some guy on the range with clubs from the seventies
or the eighties that his dad gave him or his
uncle gave him that were just. Garbage and to get
clubs that are only five or six or seven years
old is a light year of different for those, kids
and it might keep them in the, game.

Speaker 2 (01:21:02):
You, know absolutely.

Speaker 4 (01:21:04):
ABSOLUTELY i mean there's there's a there's a Mister miyagi
quality about HOW i go about. IT i, mean the
kids have to really want, it you. Know if you
IF i see a kid who's really practicing, hard you,
know and really working, Hard i'm you, Know i'm gonna help.

Speaker 2 (01:21:20):
It but but.

Speaker 4 (01:21:21):
The other side of the coin is Is i've got
parents who bring their kids in there that the kids
don't want to be. There. Yeah, way that's way worse
because my parents are making me do, this you, Know
and that's that's a no win situation for an instructor
because the kid won't.

Speaker 1 (01:21:37):
Practice do you ever really do you ever just asking that?
Question why are you? Here did they tell you?

Speaker 2 (01:21:42):
That?

Speaker 4 (01:21:43):
Yeah what do you what are your?

Speaker 2 (01:21:44):
Goal what do you want to?

Speaker 9 (01:21:45):
Do what are your?

Speaker 2 (01:21:45):
Goals and if, yeah and if the kid, says, WELL
i just want to put this on my college. Admissions,
well you know THAT i was on, THAT i was
on the golf.

Speaker 4 (01:21:55):
Club you, KNOW i know That i'm in for a.
Challenge but if a kid, says, NO i want to
make varsity my junior, year you, know my next question, is, well.

Speaker 2 (01:22:04):
What are you prepared to do for? That you, know
point that.

Speaker 4 (01:22:07):
We've had some kids come through At meadowbrook that have
gone through and won the drive pitching putt At and
in a perfect, world those kids are on the range
and they're in their homeschooled and they spend twenty twenty
five hours a, week.

Speaker 2 (01:22:23):
You, know playing in practicing.

Speaker 4 (01:22:24):
GOLF i point to those kids AND i, say see
that kid right, there he gets teen and he's getting
ready to go off to college In. California you, know
he's got a god scholarship and he works twenty five
hours a week on his. Game so do you want
to do? That and if they say, YEAH i want
to do, that you, know if they, SHRUG i don't.
Know that has a lot of. Work. Man you, Know

(01:22:45):
i'd rather be on my phone or On instagram or
something or you, know, well, okay so you just have
to evaluate each kid. Individually and but when you get
a kid who really wants to, work They i'll give
them anything they.

Speaker 1 (01:22:58):
Need that kid over there is working twenty five hours
a week and the kid, Says, Nah i'm gonna do.

Speaker 3 (01:23:05):
Thirty that's the GUY i.

Speaker 2 (01:23:06):
Want, Amen, Amen, HEY i got a.
