Speaker 1 (00:00):
Man outstanding, Good morning everyone. Jonathan gets an A minus
on the mix today.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Yeah he's getting better.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
Yeah he's strong every day and one goofy highlighted George
Prayer and every here's George Springer scoring. But all right,
good times. But that's all right, you know what? Hey
in school, I was looking to pass man. John's trying
to get into of.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
An a getting there. We are all the way.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
We have a super busy show today. We are very
happy to have you with us. Wonderful uh and uh
the rockets with the wind last night, and I get
that we'll get this far. I just don't get it.
Ten years ago, I never had allergies. Why why do
you use an adult get allergies? I think they're getting
a they're getting worse. It seems like because it's happening
(00:42):
to me as well. I mean yesterday, as soon as
I got off the show, I went back. I got
a hotel and to spend night because didn't want to
make the trip back into Kingwood and wanted to get
a nap in. And I was like, man, I'm starting
to feel it in my nose and my throat a little bit,
and I'm fine. I had some tea this morning, and
I probably had about an eight out of a ten.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
But it's just kind of sucks. This is it?
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Pollen?
Speaker 2 (01:02):
Is it? Humidity? Is it?
Speaker 1 (01:04):
It's due to Allergies can develop or worsen in older
adults due to weakening immune system and changing body functions.
I got a lot of changing body functions. Some some
were functioning better than others.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Back in the day.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Well, let's get you on some vitamin C. I'm trying
getting Yeah. Good. So what we're gonna move to.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
We gotta go somewhere there's there's no pollen in there,
there's no allergens.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
I don't know. We can go to.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Stone in Arizona. That's where Doc Holliday went to relieve
his tuberculosis. So we can go somewhere really dry, like Phoenix.
How about you and I get that's when my nose
starts bleeding. How about you and I get an apartment
like the Golden Girls, and we call us the Golden Bros. Okay,
and we get it. We canet like a big bedroom,
three bedroom apartment. We'll find we'll get a third roommate.
We'll bring us pay in rent. Of course I am
(01:51):
in there. Here's what we'll do well, here's a night,
here's a novel idea. You get an apartment, we'll get
one big one. We'll get one other person, and we'll
have their mother come with us. I'm stay with us.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
I don't know. Did that happen in GD Father? It
would be a golden bros.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Oh okay, I thought you were trying to set up
a three company situation. By the way, Happy birthday to
Joyce de Wood who played Janet. She turned seventy eight today.
Happy birthday to Susanne Summers. No, she's dead. Oh well
she can still have a happy birthday to whom you
still wish you know? Happy bro. Oh, it's George Washington's birthday.
It's literally a holiday.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Matt.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Oh, okay, shot happened. Shout out to anybody that president
says as well, he's dead.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
That's true, that is true. Oh, George Washington, Suzanne Summers
the same thing.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
I mean, both iconic in different ways. Yes, that was
one of my early crushes in my life. Barn Tony Tanil.
One had iconic teeth and one had iconic thighs. Susanna
had more than just iconic thighs, icondic everything. There's a
Facebook rill of her and Jack Tripper dancing in their
apartment and it's she's wearing a blue like a light
blue top spectacular. You know, way too many details of
(03:00):
that Facebook real. Back to the Rocket I am. I
am one und percent Facebook real guy. I gotta fully
admit it. All right, super busy show today, Rockets win,
Astros get the brooms out against the o Jays.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Christian Walker.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
That day off certainly made a big difference for him
as he goes yard again for the Local nine yesterday.
Ryan Gusta's like, uh, lands becutors, take your time. I
want I want to stay in the starting rotation, and
he was able to do that for this Local nine
last night.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Or okay, you gonna argue with me about it?
Speaker 3 (03:31):
No one?
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Okay, So the Astro's gonna sweep. We have NFL draft
tonight from Green Bay, Wisconsin. I'll say this, I'm all vested.
I mean, I have an appointment right after the show today,
but I'll be at home tonight in front of my television,
probably here locked in. You're gonna have your big board out.
I don't believe in having a big board. Okay, I
(03:52):
keep my board all board. I keep my board, very close, tightboard.
I'm like Nick Cassiro, I'm not I'm not drafting for need,
trying for want. All right, you know that's the opposite. Yeah,
that's what he's doing. He doesn't care about me, he
don't need anything. Okay, So on the show today, we
will have Brian mctagger coming up at eleven o'clock today,
looking forward to that.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
I just don't get it. At eleven thirty. We'll have
the news at noon.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
We got people calling right now if we want to
call in about the Rockets win last night or the
Astros victory seven one three seven.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Honey. Shane Hallam's going to join the show.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Yes, draft Sharks, Draft sharks, and we thank him because
look at a super busy time for all these draft gurus,
if you will, and he's gonna take ten minutes of
his time to talk with us today.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
We appreciate him.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
And then we'll have email okay at one o'clock this afternoon,
and believe it or not, at one fifty, all things
about George Washington and Susan Summers. Yes, what a jam
pag show. I know that's a good radio program. We're
moving things around a little bit huh. So I'm going
to open up the floor to the phones, okay, because
what more can I say? We gave you two and
a half hours of entertainment last night on these airwaves
(04:53):
are over. Also on KTRH is a Rockets beat the
Warriors even the series at a game apiece.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
I do have a poll question up this morning. Uh oh.
Speaker 1 (05:01):
It concerns what you folks did at Tota Center last night.
On a couple different occasions, you told Draymond to f himself.
I'm trying to think, Ross. I can't remember the last
time I was at a Houston sporting event when we
told an opposing athlete to f themselves.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Now we've boot athletes before. Aaron Judges gets a lot
of booze.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Anybody from the Yankees period, the Dodgers, the Kelly Kid,
the pitcher, Uh, Joe Kelly, Joe Kelly. But that was
eighteen thousand people in Unison singing if you Draymon and
Steve Kerr was crying about it, and we'll play the
Steve Kirk coment coming out of it in just a second.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
Good.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
I want to hear this. There is I haven't heard it.
There's a poll question. It says that I have on
there today. Should Rocket fans apologize for to Draymond for
saying if you Draymond, I just voted one hundred and
twenty seven an answer I am in the majority say
oh hell no, seven percent say very insensitive.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
Oh my god.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
I mean, here, here's my quick take on it. Honestly,
I'm not a super big fan of using swear words
in public like that, in that unison kind of thing.
But first of all, it's the NBA. It's a league
of swear words. And secondly, the dirtiest player in the
game deserves it. Draymond Green is the dirtiest player I've
(06:29):
ever called a professional sporting event in my entire life,
or amateur for that matter. Yeah, I think he's earned
that title. He's earned that title at this point. Remarkably consistent.
You know, Draymond, your consistency throughout the years has really gotten.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
You the award. He gets dirtiest player we've ever seen.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
He gets tied up on things, he flops, he gets
technical fouls, he kicks, he raps him in the face.
He's just the dirtiest. He's the Rick Flair of NBA basketball.
He's the dirtiest player in the game. He's got a
screw loose. He's got a screw loose. Yeah, and then
he was upset because it wasn't very original because apparently
(07:05):
in Boston they started the FU Draymond.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Okay, what are they supposed to say?
Speaker 1 (07:11):
I don't know, but you know what again, normally, I'm
not a huge fan of square words out in front
of eighteen thousand people. But if it fits, the crime
fits the crime, and the Rockets and Warriors are tied
at a game apiece, and we don't want Jimmy Butler
to be hurt, but we'll see what happens on that front.
We're not a fan of guys taking pelvic hits to
(07:32):
the ground. That's gonna be very painful. He's having an
MRI today. They're not even leaving for another about another hour,
so they're still in town. So Draymond pushed Iman Thompson
into Jimmy Butler. I'm sorry. Watch the replay he did. Yeah,
so blame Draymond Warriors fans. Oh, Draymond gets no blame.
And that's why I might I might need protection in
(07:54):
San francisc because we gonna need it anyway.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
I'm gonna I'm gonna be.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
Really pissed off being around nineteen thousand really uncouth Warrior fans.
No we're talking about I thought it was rich wine
and cheese crowd tech bros. Uh not, Well, the prices
are so expensive, I can't. You have to puye a default.
But it's just a they do no wrong. It's not
(08:19):
like there's like it's not like a prisoner release program.
They got a bunch of guys doing time in there.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
That is true. It is a nice arena, by the way.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
It's it's just a way different vibe than when they
chase Chase Center, Yeah, or the Race Center.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
I'm sorry, race Yeah, maybe don't do that. Well, you
know what, that's right. It is nice.
Speaker 1 (08:34):
So I get to put money in there, I get
I get free ATM withdrawals. I'm a race card member,
So let's go with base base. That sounds good. Seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven ninety The Local nine
Gotta Win and Ross has a concert review of Kendrick
Lamardi get to I Do, But we got a full
(08:54):
show today. Do Not go Anywhere. It's ten fourteen on
Sports Talk seven ninety all Right ten twenty Sports Talk seven,
Nini Ross Matt with you, Jonathan's our producer and lots
of get to Jalen Green an ultimate bounce back game
for the five Rockets and started a double figures last night,
a high double double for one oupri in Shangun. Although
he was not overly fluid in terms of shot makes,
(09:17):
he got to the basket a bunch, a lot of
second chance opportunities, a lot offensive rebounds, and their dominant
rebounding performance. But last time it was Jalen Green's come
out party. He was knocking down some massive threes, huge
stretches of games. I want to say two different times,
Ross d in the game where he was just taken
over the game by himself, scoring it well, and it
(09:37):
basically confirmed the fears of what Golden State fans thought
was we need a second score next to Stephen Curry.
And when Jimmy Butler left the game, Granted the Rockets
were up when it happened, there just wasn't a second
guy to go to. Jonathan Cominga came in, tried to
help out, not much. Quinton Post was the guy knocking
down threes of all people, and the Quinton Post is
your second league go to threat. You're in trouble. Yeah,
(10:00):
you're in trouble. Brandon Pajemski not doing much of anything. Yeah,
have a little food, Deshcus before the game yesterday. Yeah, yeah,
is everything Okay? People are getting people are going down
with these stomach bugs. Lance McCullers junior, Brandon Pajemski. Yeah,
didn't Mookie.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Betts lose like fifty pounds in Japan or something like that.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
You know what wash All's food if you're gonna serve
it to us. Yeah, they just don't have the regulations.
But Jalen Green I mentioned this when we were talking
about DraftKings pick six yesterday. Eighteen point five was his
point total, and that just seemed below. You had a
fire big on that, right, you needed to correct. We
did all right last nay, good for you, right, good
(10:37):
for you. Yeah, So that was great. I didn't know
that he was gonna explode to the extent of getting
thirty eight points. Now he did get up eighteen threes.
I mean he was he was getting him up there.
But it's nice to see him get back in rhythm.
You knew that he could, and especially I mean I
guess I shouldn't care about this, Matt, But you know
how rockets Twitter, there's Jalen Green haters and Jalen Green
(10:59):
lover and all.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Else like OUPBRND truthers. So I just want.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
I wanted Jalen Green to have a good game because
I think he is a good player, and he had
it apps. There's no getting around the dud that he
had in Game one, so for him to bounce back
in a big way is huge. I did notice that
Fred VanVleet was much more gun shy during the course
of the game shooting threes. He just looked like, you
know what, maybe that that I have to take some
by necessity. I'm not going to get up thirteen, but
(11:25):
I'm not going to be nearly as liberal with my
shot selections, and with.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Them leading a lot of it.
Speaker 1 (11:31):
I think Fred is kind of one of those guys
to me in general, he just goes. He knows when
the offense kind of needs him, that's when he'll start
shooting a little bit more. And I think they did
in Game one when nobody was hitting anything. So I
think he will take a back seat, and then sometimes
if he feels like the offense needs a little juice,
he'll take more charge.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
And that just didn't happen at any point really last night.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
Sorry, had a couple threes last night, and men Thompson
was in foul trouble frankly, and the reason why he
was not more effective offensively, But when he was out
there and out of foul trouble, it was quite good.
And then the Draymond being Draymond, and we'll get to
Steve christ comments and just second here, but I do
want to talk to some people first seven one three
two one two five seven. I let's talk to Anthony
on seven I he had ten twenty three Anthony, good morning.
Speaker 4 (12:14):
Hey, good morning guys. Hey, hey Ross, I just saw
your tweet. I'll take fifty seven, though I think they
score fifty seven between the two of them, and uh.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
I'll definitely take is a little lot.
Speaker 4 (12:27):
What was it, fifty fifty five something like that, fifty
five fifty five, okay, And.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
And those you don't know, Anthony.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
Anthony had a gut feeling that alprinching Gun and Jalen
Green were can combine for sixty and we're like, whoa,
we hope that happened.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
So you did get close, Anthony.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
I think It's a lot of fun that we're getting
to literally watch this team and more specifically Jalen Green
grow up right before our eyes. Just a huge bounce
back game for him. And uh, I think Fred van
Vliet means more to this team than then a lot
of people give him credit for. I think he's the
calm when the when when things get messy for the Rockets.
(13:09):
But I wanted to ask y'all a question. Gordy made
a comment this morning on Shawn Show that he was
worried if the Rockets, say, go out to Golden State
and win both games and they come back up three
to one, that that Draymond made sense that the season's
over for them and you know, make a dirty play
(13:30):
on Alpi or something like that. Is that and we
have to move forward with without Alpi? Is that something
that Matt and Ross that you guys think that y'all
could see Draymond doing is trying to intentionally hurt somebody.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
I don't think it doesn't matter whether they're eliminated or
going to be a limited or not.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
He will try to hurt you in any impossible game.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
It could be walking to the grocery store, it could
be a pre game in late September, he'll try to hurt.
Speaker 4 (13:54):
You well, and it's it's frustrating because I think Draymond
played an intricate part and Golden States Golden Years, if
you will. But it's like the less productive he becomes
on the floor, the dirtier he gets as a player.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
Yeah, I would agree with that, that's fair to say.
I mean, his skills have diminished. He's not much of
a shooter at all. What never was a great shooter
to begin with, But he's even less than today than
he was a four or five years ago. Still has
incredible ability to interpret passing lanes and still has to
go you know, he's a six to sixth center and
doesn't not back away from anybody that's going to be
(14:32):
three four inches taller than he is, which is most occasions.
There is still value in Draymond Green, but there's an
ugliness to his basketball game that creates controversy. It creates
harsh relationships, It forces officials to have to make a
bunch of calls. It has to make them referee a
different type of game they want to. He's ultimately, right
(14:53):
now a danger to the game, and we see it
every single time he plays a basketball game every literally
ross every single time, there is usually a dust up,
and if it involves a dust up, it's involving Draymond Green. Yeah,
it's I mean, it is who he is. I mean,
I think they're a legitimate case if you look at
the breakdown video by video for him to literally be
out of the league, and it is a concern. I
(15:15):
guess Gordy was on this morning. I guess he was
saying with the guys, I don't know if he popped
in or whatever, but yeah, I would. We would be
a concern if they got up three to one and
that Draymond would go him and hurt somebody. But let
me tell you, if Dreams try to do that, Steven
Adams will try to choke out Draymond Green. Yeah he would,
But then you don't want him suspended and you don't
(15:36):
want anybody hurt. If there's anybody, if there's any team
in the NBA that's not gonna put up with Raymond Green,
it's the Houston Rockets, and he may donk is gonna
talk to us about that. At one o'clock today, He's
basically like, you know what, guys, this is fine. If
that's how they want to play. We'll throw the rockets,
will throw hands with the Golden State Warriors and have
very few issues doing so. Yeah, I'm not worried about
(15:56):
necessarily the fights or anything. I just don't want anybody
to get hurt because he's poked people in the eye
and stuff like that. I mean, he's just the dirtiest
player in the game. Yeah, period in the story. All right,
so two different times that I remember, ROSSI last night,
the F you Draymond was out there and on the
eighteen thousand plus in the arena, well I probably about
seventeen five five hundred fans of Golden State weren't doing it.
And Steve Kerr was asked about exactly what it was
(16:19):
like hearing F you Draymond during the game last night.
Speaker 5 (16:22):
It's not not ideal when a crowd is, you know,
channing F you Draymond.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
It's just I don't know.
Speaker 5 (16:30):
I mean, it did in Boston a few years ago
in the finals.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
It is what it is.
Speaker 5 (16:37):
Draymond's he's been around forever. You know, he's an instigator.
He's he's always going to be in the mix. And
because of his his career, his you know, his championships,
his fire. He's going to be a lightning rod. And
that's all part of it. I would prefer, you know,
(17:00):
if if fans could use a little more discretion and
you know, uh remember that. You know the guy has kids,
and you know it's like there's kids. I don't know,
I just maybe I'm old school, but I'm all for
the fans cheering for their team, and if they want
to yell at the opponent's great. But I don't know,
I just think F you is it's a little much.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
Oh oh, somebody please think of the children.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
Are such a will Steve Kurry, you are just a
crying little baby. Bach the doing it because he won championships.
Nobody was saying that to Steph Curry or Steve Kurr.
We don't even scream f you.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
Clay No, no, Clay Thompson, whoever.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
Person. At least he said he's an instigator. At least
he admitted that. Well, I mean, I would think so.
He's been there for every one of the games with
Draymonds ever played. Dray mung Green is not the victim
here huckering everyone else who is kicked in the nads
and raked in the face and try to dislocate their
shoulders and elbows as the victim.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
By the way, again, Houston, he does have kids, so
let's be a little more polite about the situation. I mean,
it is unfortunate. If bleep you is it's it's it
is salty. But I mean it's not some high crime
and misdemeanor. And also the games trying to eight forty
five last night, and don't you at some point you
got to look in the mirror and say, huh, why
(18:27):
is everyone saying bleep me in multiple cities?
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Maybe it has something to do with you, Draymond.
Speaker 4 (18:33):
No.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
I mean, Steve Kerr had to defend his guy. I
get it, but he's got to He's good. When he
went to the he's got kids card, I mean that
was that was one. I kind of lost shoulder. The
kids probably know he's an a hole too. Oh yeah,
I mean yeah, My guess is he said dad's an
a hole. Hey, dad was a carminator screw in eighteen thousand.
People were screaming after you, Draymond in multiple times. Or
(18:57):
maybe he's the most gentle, loving father ever and just
when he gets in between the lines is when he
goes crazy.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
I don't know, man, then it's a possibility.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
We've seen a lot of players that have lost their
cool when they step on a quarter or a field
as well. He's a psychopath on the floor, that's what
we see, and so it's not an accident that he's
getting bleep you Draymond Chance in multiple towns, YEP ten thirty,
Sports Talk seven ninety. If you want to join our conversation,
you may do so at seven one three two one

five seven ninety. If you want to join us via Twitter,
you may do that as well. It's at Sports Empty
and at Sports RV. We'll talk Astros baseball in specifics
with Brian mctaggard in thirty minutes here on seven ninety.
Lots of good things happening in the Houston community. Astros
win last night sweep the Toronto Blue Jays. Looks like
our first basement is back to feeling good again with
(19:50):
another home run Ryan Gusto and the relief corporal. The
relief corps has been fantastic this year. I mean, not
gone cheap whatever this is, but gosh, it's been the
fun watching and the Blue Jays came in.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
They're they're leaving town wounded a little bit.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
Astros, by the way, find themselves at a game above five,
two games above five, thirty eleven and they're only one
game out of first place. They're tied for second with
Seattle because the Texas Rangers yesterday lost to the Athletics.
It's sounding weird to say you can't call them Sacramento a's,
can't call them Oakland a's. It's the old playose like
(20:26):
I'm gonna call them the Sacramento As.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
That's why they're playing.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
Why you got to disrespect Sacramento Like, I don't even
think Sacramento wants them. They don't, but that's where they are. No, No,
why are we hiding from the truth. They should have
They should have gone to Salt Lake City, much nicer stadium,
a bigger metropolis that would have been probably enjoyed it more.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
I don't know. Are they really gonna play? Is the
thing in the last fans are really gonna happen? I
think so.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
But the aos standing is shaking out kind of how
we thought preseason with Angels A's second to last and last,
and I think it's gonna be Rangers Mayor's astros kind
of battling for the crown. And we say today, go
Red Sox as they play the Seattle marinerse Go Red Sox.
I hope Alex Redman hits three home runs. Yeah, and
you're charging closer and closer. I think you're looking good
with your ops gut feeling. Yeah, which is which was?
(21:13):
Which was kind of crazy, right, I mean there was
no history of him having that kind of ops. I
mean he could have not had eight hundred ops for
the season. That's true, You've got him. Yeah, Alex bregmant
out here, he's still hitting three ten. I don't think
he's hit three hundreds. It's like twenty nineteen. Seriously, wouldn't
you want to play half your games at Fenway Park
(21:34):
if you're a last year Oh he's got ops at
nine to eleven? And yeah, oh, I'm sorry. He's never
hit three hundred in his career. He did hit two
two ninety six and nineteen. He's hitting three ten, going
for his first three hundred bad season in a Red
Sox uniform. Yikes, in less than a month of performance.
(21:55):
Let's go to oh, look here Leok, who's online one.
Speaker 6 (22:00):
Heday?
Speaker 1 (22:01):
Resident Uncle Warrior fan. Hello, Bleach, Hey, I'm sorry, Draymond
just poked me in the eye. Go ahead, Bleacher day
by the way, dream Bleacher, Dave.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
If you Draymond, if you Draymon? Hello, Hell you're here?
Am I aunt? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Go ahead.
Speaker 7 (22:19):
Oh my gosh, I can't believe you used two shorts
favorite word on the air. I'm just thankful that my
grandparents left Houston in nineteen forty.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
Oh my god, so awful, because.
Speaker 7 (22:32):
Good grief, the vulgarity of the Texan crowd last night
just proves that people in the South are not nice.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
They were with my grandparents.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
Let me tell you about Let me tell you about
the South. Let me tell you about the South, and
we can cook be Our women are better looking, and
see we smell better.
Speaker 7 (22:53):
Have you ever been to the Buffalo Bayou or down
by the petroleum fineries down there in the Gold No.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
We don't count, we don't countsh.
Speaker 3 (23:04):
But let's talk.
Speaker 7 (23:05):
But let's top basketball ball right last night, because we
all know that Dylan Brooks is the dirtiest history the
player of the league.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
Oh stop terrible busting people's busting people's shoulders and legs
and whatnot. And it's just a dirty man.
Speaker 7 (23:19):
And to watch what Jayalen Green did with the elbow
to Draymond Green. And yet somehow Rockets fans are living
in this disillusioned bubble of unreality where their team has
not been grabbing, holding, tripping and being vulgar and and I'm.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
Not gonna call them dirty. This is a physical series.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
I like it.
Speaker 7 (23:39):
But come on, y'all, don't act like y'all don't have
a part of this. Here's what I think. Uh, Can Jevin.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Green go for thirty eight points again? I rather think not.
Speaker 7 (23:47):
And I like our chances whatever they had happened with
Jimmy Butler. And we know you guys have to figure
We know the Rockets have to injure somebody on the
Warriors to try and have a chance.
Speaker 8 (23:57):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
And I'm not gonna'm gonna certain Ramon pushed on it.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
Look at the tape, Draymond pushed on Men Thompson into
Jimmy Butler.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
Watch the watch the replay.
Speaker 7 (24:05):
I watched it, and I saw Steven Adams set up
that whole thing would be Oh man.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
You are watching a completely different basketball game in the
rest of America.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Is I'm just gonna tell you that right now.
Speaker 7 (24:16):
Whatever it is is, it's a mini series, a lot
of fun, and so I like all the tugging Steph
Curry only has shot and six freet throws, so we
know that it's not equitable. But you know, the too old,
too small, two light skinned Warriors or we're coming back
home where we're gonna have an indoor rain shower on
the heads of him offensively challenged Houston rock and moos.
Speaker 2 (24:40):
And I just want to tell y'all one.
Speaker 7 (24:41):
Thing, blah blah blah, because your off season is coming
coming soon. You're at the tickets for Kankrue Reserve, y'all
might want to be with him because, uh guys, you know.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
That'd be pretty nice. I got a bad connection there. Sorry,
seriously delusional Warrior fan, love it, love Bleacher Dave. That's fine,
it's it's a good conversation. Maybe I should start going
on radio shows in Oakland and just starts and just
going to scrap talking. It doesn't drive to the basket
a bunch in this stage of his career. That's why
(25:12):
he's not getting free throws. Oh yeah, I mean he's
getting free throws on technical fouls that are called on
the rockets. Well, he does get those by way? Try
you said, do not be throwing towels of people. Come
on now. It looked like to me when that skirmish
took place that a lot of players left the bench.
Nobody really made mention to that. I don't know if
I thought you weren't supposed to be able to do that.
I didn't think you were.
Speaker 2 (25:31):
Heretick Suns are like what's the deal?
Speaker 1 (25:33):
Yeah, no kidding, the Nicks and the heater like, come
on now, did we create this for y'all?
Speaker 3 (25:41):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (25:41):
But yeah, good energy in the building last night. You
couldn't really tell the team was down on one uh
and just getting off to a good start with Jalen
and men Thompson going. The only thing that was kind
of bugaboo was the fact that you had Brooks and
men Thompson get into foul trouble very early in the
contest and then now be gotting to some foul trouble late. So,
but they also saw a small glimpse of Aaron Holliday
(26:04):
and that old. A lot of it was because of
the injuries sitting, not the injury, but the foul trouble situation.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
And then Golden State went like eleven deep.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
They brought a Jonathan Kaminga out of moth balls to
come play.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
He was like a he was like mummified.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
Yeah, I was like that the guy that we killer
earlier this year and that he didn't do much at
all yesterday.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
No, and but he wasn't doing much.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
Moses Moody was off to a very good starting get
scored seven points in the first quarter and they wasn't
really found much after that. So mostly the same rotation
for ima Udoka, a few extra minutes of Aaron Holiday Yeah,
and again two more off days like it. I mean,
come on in BA, let's go. No Steven Adams, he's
the off days. Well, I'll tell you what it does
(26:51):
help Now after Saturday, it's every other day of the
rest of the way.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
So that benefits the younger team in my opinion, which
is the.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
Rockets, right, yes, yeah, And the big question mark is
going to be how's an MRI going to turn out
for Butler? That will I mean, can you shoot it
up and just suck it up and go? I mean,
my guess is a pelvic injury you're trying that? Just
that the easiest thing to replace a pelvic bruise. Ross
would be just to sit and relax. Got the go
like two.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
Weeks Pelvis, some hot yoga, stretch that thing out. Our
guys supposed to do hot yoga? Yeah, why not?
Speaker 1 (27:23):
I we're supposed to just watch it. What do you mean,
like watch other people do hot yoga? Why would you
watch someone do yoga. I've enjoyed watching people do yoga
before yoga. Pants yoga. Let's go perfect hmm. Yeah, that's
why you gotta stay three hundred yards away from that
yoga studio.
Speaker 3 (27:40):
I mean.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
That's not completely inaccurate. Ten forty three on Sports Talk
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven
ninety If you want to jump into the conversation seven
one three two one two five seven ninety we have
Brian mctagger coming up at the top of the hour.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
Astros by the way of an off day.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
Uh, I got a tweet from someone said, why is
the Rockets playing in Kansas City? And I have a
very simple answer for you. The Rockets. The Astros use
the Rockets plane when we're not using it. M Oh,
that's right, I forgot about that. So there's your answer.
If you ever see the Rockets playing in a strange
American League, baseball city or baseball town. It's because they
share the plane when they can. Okay, they better give
(28:20):
us a plane back. We need we need confidence. We've
got a long flag going to San Francisco, Rossie tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
You can be all right. I'm just saying I need
my stretch out.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
Yes, you're gonna be fine. Get your little shrimp cocktail.
Go play, Go play some Boo ray O. They't they
let me play back there? No, I don't think I
want to play. I don't think you can buy into
that game. I don't think you want to buy into
that game. But that's way too expensive of a game.
Speaker 2 (28:42):
I never played Boo, especially now that Jalen Green and
everybody got is getting paid.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
I know.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
Yeah, it used to be.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
There's to be like two tables, one with the high
minimums and one below. And there's just not just one
table book now. And I'll throw dice in the back
of the plane if they want. Okay, got plenty of
room back there to do that.
Speaker 3 (28:58):
Good luck.
Speaker 1 (28:59):
Me and Jackol Dell can throw some dice. Really, Yeah,
all right, you can play in the same amount of minutes.
That felt personal ten forty four Sports Talk seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven NINTI seven
one three two one two five seven ninety with a
reminder again that Brian mctagger talks all things astros, whether
it's in just fifteen sharp minutes here on seven ninety.
(29:21):
All right, we've got Brian mctagger coming up in about
ten minutes. I don't believe that uh Antonio Brown runs
his Twitter account. Oh no, he does not. Okay, I
think he's got a social media guy. Whoever didn't doesn't
in the history of at AB eighty four, the all
(29:42):
time biggest most savage savagery.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
Is that a word? Yeah, I think so savage, Like
did you see it yesterday?
Speaker 1 (29:50):
No, I have him muted. I would not want him moot.
I would not want to get on his bad side.
It is a photo. You know how they're doing these
these characters where they're creating these figurines of yourself.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
You describe who.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
You are, Oh yeah, kind of like play figures and
you say that you're it's Ai, it's you're a sportscaster,
or you're a cook, you're a teacher, you're a I
put this one up at sixteen hours ago on Twitter.
I'm gonna show you this. So I don't know if
you've seen or not. This is the one. It's ESPN,
it's Shannon Sharp. Yeah, one figurine. It's a young girl
(30:29):
in a bathing suit with the word only fans across
the front in the upper right hand corner. It's like
cassette tape of the word evidence an all timer.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
It has received eleven million views, one hundred and twenty
two thousands, nine six hundred retweets, and twenty five hundred comments.
It is by far the biggest most savage, Oh that's
messed up thing that at AB eighty four has ever done.
(31:04):
And by the way, Shannon sharps toast is he I
think so ESPN's been ridiculously quiet about this.
Speaker 4 (31:12):
Hm.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
I think he's in trouble. And Shannon, well, he came
out strong and said he was innocent. Well, of course
he did, shann Have you ever heard anybody say released
the whole ten minute sex tape?
Speaker 2 (31:24):
That's so Shanny said, It's like, what is going on
out here? He's in his mid fifties. What is he
doing with a nineteen year old or whatever it was?
Speaker 1 (31:31):
I mean, my god, conversations living what he perceives to
be his best life. Yeah, I can't converse with a
nineteen year old no now. And apparently he offered her
ten million to start and that wasn't a way. Yeah, okay,
she wanted fiddy, he said ten and then she said no,
and then everybody was.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
Starting going public.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
Yes, and he's in the process of selling his podcast
for one hundred million dollars, which I don't know if
to mean signed. I don't If I'm that company trying
to buy that podcast, I'd be like, I'd be a
hard pass. But I saw that from AB eighty four,
and I'm like, this picture of Shannon figuring with the
(32:11):
girl and the only fans across her chest is unbelievable.
But truly it's believable there because there it isn't glory.
Speaker 2 (32:20):
MM. Just date people your own age.
Speaker 1 (32:24):
I mean that's our that's our advice for the day, right, Yeah,
day people your own age.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
Yeah, who's the chart and true formula?
Speaker 1 (32:30):
Half your age that's not plus seven, that's made up
by older men.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
It's made up by wise men. That's not in any
sort of dating handbook. So, Jonathan, how old are you again? Two?
Speaker 1 (32:43):
Half your age is eleven plus seven, so you can
date up to the least if you ever break if
you break it with the girl, it's eighteen years old,
which is that's creepy. Don't be doing that. No, that's
how old your girl, by the way, clean one Okay.
And she's a teacher. Yeah, good for her. She finished
school quickly. Yeah, she graduated the same time I did.
And she's a you know what I mean, she's making more.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
Money than you are too.
Speaker 3 (33:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:05):
Yeah, you're not bringing that up? Is she bring? Is
she bringing up to you? Sometimes?
Speaker 1 (33:12):
So I figured let's go to Reggie and Katie at
ten fifty two on seven and Reggie, good morning.
Speaker 9 (33:18):
Hey, what's up man?
Speaker 3 (33:19):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (33:20):
Day people, y'all made that the video?
Speaker 1 (33:22):
Belichick, Oh Bill Bell. He is not following the rules.
He's not following the half plus seven rule, that's for sure.
Speaker 9 (33:29):
Yeah, he's four rule. Yeah.
Speaker 10 (33:33):
I gotta comment on the tyree, I mean, on the
Amyn Thompson foul. But I was at Discovered Green last
weekend and I got a seven year old nephew and
he walked up to a little kid and took his
ball from him. The kid took the ball back, and
my seven year old nephew slapped him.
Speaker 9 (33:53):
Okay, so I had to go break that.
Speaker 3 (33:56):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (33:57):
And my point is, just because that's my nephew, I'm
not gonna take his side just because my nephew.
Speaker 9 (34:05):
I saw what happened. Fast forward to last night.
Speaker 10 (34:11):
I saw what happened with Aman Thompson and Jimmy Butler.
Speaker 3 (34:18):
That dude.
Speaker 10 (34:19):
Listen, man, if somebody pushes you from the back and
you're about to fall down, what's gonna be your natural reactions.
You're gonna put your arms down before you hit the
floor to protect your face, right, You're gonna.
Speaker 9 (34:28):
Try to brace for the fall. Sure is that safe
to say?
Speaker 3 (34:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (34:33):
Yeah, Okay.
Speaker 10 (34:34):
A man stuck both of his elbows out like a
running back trying to stuck past rush.
Speaker 9 (34:40):
He put both of his elbows out.
Speaker 10 (34:42):
I'm a Rockets fan, man, I remember, I'm a Rockets
fan for life.
Speaker 9 (34:47):
I'm just calling. Like I said, I.
Speaker 10 (34:49):
Got a picture of a largah one he punching Dinners
Johnson in the face from the Celtic.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
I'm confused what your point is though, What is your point?
Speaker 10 (34:57):
The point is that he tried to I don't say
he was dirty, but when you've fallen down, you.
Speaker 9 (35:03):
Put your arms down. And brace for impact.
Speaker 10 (35:05):
You don't put your arms in a blocking position over
your head to like block a pass rush, like.
Speaker 9 (35:10):
Running back stoop when somebody coming around the corner. He stuck,
slow it down and look at it.
Speaker 10 (35:14):
He put both of his arms up, both of his
elbows up above his.
Speaker 9 (35:18):
Head and aimed him toward my man's legs.
Speaker 2 (35:23):
Thompson did that to Jimmy Butler.
Speaker 9 (35:24):
Yeah, man, Thompson did, Yeah, go look at it.
Speaker 2 (35:26):
I'm looking at it right now. He does not put
both elbows up.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
Okay, I'm gonna Reggie, Reggie, Reggie, you're serious, Reggie.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
I'm gonna go look at this.
Speaker 9 (35:34):
But do we be bracing for impact?
Speaker 1 (35:37):
Reggie, Reggie, Reggie, Reggie, stay stay hanging. I'm gonna go even.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
Falling down when his legs went over there.
Speaker 1 (35:43):
If you're wrong about this, you are gonna have to
call and apologize to the City of Houston because I'm
gonna look at this. But I want you because I
got mctagger coming up in five minutes. I'm gonna look
at it during the break right now, and if you're wrong,
you're calling me back in twenty five minutes.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
Apologize.
Speaker 9 (35:59):
But Ross said, somebody said he wasn't falling down. How
do you know?
Speaker 2 (36:02):
No, he's falling down, but he's not.
Speaker 9 (36:04):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (36:05):
He's beginning his fall as he runs into Jimmy Butler.
Speaker 9 (36:09):
No, but his arms are up above his head. That's
not how you His arms.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
Don't go above his head. You're looking at a different
player than I am. A men Thompson. Are we talking
about a men Thompson and Jimmy Butler last night at
the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, April twenty third.
Speaker 10 (36:25):
Yeah, he put both of his elbows out in front
of his body.
Speaker 1 (36:28):
Show me where he puts both his elbows out, man, you.
Speaker 9 (36:32):
Show me where he put his arms down.
Speaker 1 (36:34):
Ind we're gonna do live play by player this again.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
Jimmy goes up, a man undercuts him.
Speaker 9 (36:43):
Where's his arms?
Speaker 2 (36:45):
His arms?
Speaker 1 (36:46):
I'm watching one arm is bracing for the fall and
the other one.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
I don't know what you're looking at.
Speaker 1 (36:53):
Yeah, you're working to the wrong player or something, Jimmy, Reggie,
that's ridiculed. What you just did was completely inaccurate. I
just walked stick.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
What are you talking.
Speaker 9 (37:01):
About, Reggie?
Speaker 3 (37:02):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (37:03):
Maybe you're looking what do you mean what I'm looking at?
He's bracing for a fall.
Speaker 10 (37:09):
Yeah, okay, so what what made contact with Jimmy Butler's legs?
Speaker 2 (37:14):
One of his arms? He's falling down?
Speaker 9 (37:18):
Fall you sticking one out to like?
Speaker 1 (37:21):
No, he didn't stick him out. He doesn't even see
Jimmy Butler flying in there. He he's got his head turned.
He can't even see George Jimmy Butler's coming front.
Speaker 9 (37:28):
Okay, hey, listen, I'm a Rockets fan man.
Speaker 3 (37:30):
No, me too.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (37:31):
Look, if i'm in toom's an undercut him. Look, Dylan
Brooks undercuts and hurts people. I would say it too,
so uh yeah.
Speaker 9 (37:37):
People to my DM. But I'm just telling. I'm just calling,
like I said.
Speaker 2 (37:43):
Yeah, I'm saying, and not put both of his arms
above his head. Does not happen.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
Yeah, you're seeing something. I'm watching it now on my
own computer. And he runs into him and then he falls.
First of all, he gets pushed by he's getting pushed
and tripped by Draymond Green, so he falls down.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
No, he does not put his arms out onto him.
He might be he must be a Jimmy Bullet fan. No,
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
It's fine. I mean, I'm sitting here isolating it. This
is it's not great radio. If you look at the
under the basket angle, yeah, this is this is he's
just bracing himself for a fall.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
Now.
Speaker 1 (38:25):
I guess maybe Reggie is looking at the side angle
or it kind of looks like that, but it's it's
it's too bang bang of a play if you go
frame by frame, No, just play it in real speed.
There's nothing that Thomson could have done. In my mind,
I would call I would say it if I thought
he heard somebody. Dylan Brooks does stuff like that sometimes.
Speaker 2 (38:46):
No, this is not.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
I think he's talking about the sideline view because it's
a little bit closer to what Reggie is describing. But
if you look at the under the basket view, no, Reggie,
I'm sorry, you're just you're not seeing what I think
the rest of us are saying. Us spend ten called
a minutes with the one and only Brian McTaggart on
the MLB Astros beat here on Sports Talk seven ninety
(39:09):
tags Local nine. Playing their best baseball this season a
very successful home stand, beating up on the Toronto Blue
Jays in three consecutive games. I don't know what was
more impressive. The starting pitching on the relief pitching, maybe
the answer is see all the above.
Speaker 2 (39:24):
Yeah, they were both great.
Speaker 11 (39:25):
I mean I think the relievers went what seven and
a third scoreless innings, and that was basically the three
back end guys, King of braw and Hater Fort Whitley
did have an out again there. But it all starts
with starting pitching, and all three of the guys that
started in that series were great, beginning with you know,
Hudter Brown being you know, the clear cut ace of
this team. Ronel Blanco with his best start of the
(39:48):
season by far, and then Ryan Gusto comes out and
shows you why they sort of decided to keep him
on this team out of camp after he was setting
down it initially and continues to battle so and you know,
if they keep getting this kind of pitch, and I
think they're going to be all right. I mean, I
think I've said on here and I mean we all
know that they're the guys that are struggling going to
come around eventually. It looks like Christian Walker's there ds
(40:11):
had a couple of hits yesterday.
Speaker 2 (40:12):
He's got a long way to go.
Speaker 11 (40:14):
You know, Alvarez is slowly his numbers are slowly climbing up,
so hey, compared to last year when they were seven
and seventeen.
Speaker 2 (40:21):
At this point, thirteen and eleven looks really good. It does.
Speaker 1 (40:26):
And you know what, and I know that Joe A
spot I mentioned us a couple of days ago, there
is a thought of a six man rotation coming up
because of the lack of off days in the month
of May. You're going to have a really good arm
not available to you because you're going to have to
reduce your bullpen by a spot. And ultimately you've got
to make a decision about, well, how you're going to
treat that six man rotation.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
These are good problems they have right now. Yeah, you
can never have too much fifteen. So if you've got
a guy you're still good guy and you got to
set them to.
Speaker 11 (40:52):
The Triple A it doesn't deserve it, then yeah, that's
a good problem to have with you're the astros. I mean,
you know, maybe guy like Logan Van Why or rookie
who you know they're excited about and.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
They feel as the future.
Speaker 11 (41:04):
I mean, he's a guy I think certainly could you know,
bounce between you know, Triple A and the big leagues
this year.
Speaker 2 (41:09):
So you know that that's the guy to look at.
Speaker 11 (41:11):
But yeah, Lance pitches, uh, you know, this weekend in
corporates Christie and then maybe that was back soon after that.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
But you know, I think a six man rotation makes sense.
They've done that at different points the last couple of years.
I know Dana Brown is a big fan.
Speaker 11 (41:25):
Of that, and you know, it totally makes sense, especially
during a stretch where you don't have a day off,
and they have one of those in May, I think
May like ninth through the twenty fifth, pretty much the
middle chunk of May there, which includes a road trip
to Tampa Bay and Texas, so they can get lanced
back by then and go to a six man rotation
that would come right at the right time.
Speaker 1 (41:43):
Christian Walker got a day off earlier this week, and boy,
that has paid dividends for him. And it's funny because
sometimes veterans don't want to have to have that day off,
say making work out their issues by playing every single day.
But whatever that was sitting there observing, just kind of
mentally watching the sport as compared to physically being out there,
he has been a difference maker the last couple of nights.
Speaker 2 (42:04):
Yeah, you know, this guy.
Speaker 11 (42:05):
I'm really impressed by his approach because when he was
moved down to the lineup a few days ago, and
he's like, totally get it. You know, I'm not getting
it done in the four spot, you know, let someone
else go in there and get those at bats.
Speaker 2 (42:16):
And then when he got the day off, he's like, yeah,
you know, understand.
Speaker 11 (42:20):
And you know what he said last night was he
thought that the day off gave him a chance, you know,
to get away from everything. I think his quote was
he didn't have the pressure of figuring out to come
to the ballpark and try to get a couple of
hits that night. And he made a couple of adjustments
the following day just to try to go back to
some basics, not tinker too much on the batter's box,
(42:41):
and you know, comes out and gets three hits and
two more right off the bat yesterday, including a homer.
Speaker 2 (42:46):
So yeah, science he's coming around for sure. And I mean,
you know.
Speaker 11 (42:50):
A breather when you just you don't see your name
in the lineup and say, you know what, I'm just
gonna sit in the dugout and clear my head and
watch things like this work. I Mean, they've seen it
worked for a couple of players last year, you know,
I think Bragmant had a breather and came back and
played pretty well.
Speaker 2 (43:06):
So managers give these guys the things for a reason.
Speaker 11 (43:08):
But nice to see him get going after I know
that had to be a tough start, especially with a
new team, where you come in, pressure's on you sign
all you know, this money and you got this contract
and you're not living up to it. So there's probably
he's probably putting a lot of pressure on himself as well.
Speaker 1 (43:23):
Yeah, and somebody who benefited from a breather last year,
was it theiner? I think he got like a bad
hit him on the hand or something, and he missed
a couple of days and he came back and his
back kind of woke up. Three game hit street for him.
So he's shown some signs of life. But how do
you think things are going to be handled going forward?
Speaker 3 (43:40):
For you?
Speaker 2 (43:40):
Iiner?
Speaker 11 (43:43):
Yeah, I mean I think they're gonna keep running him
out there too, you know, hope, you know, hopefully for
their sake. This is the start of him, you know,
coming around a little bit. I mean, he's you know,
he's he's going to be an aggressive hitter, at the plate.
Pitchers are going to try to exploit that. But you know,
we've saw in the last couple of years, Uh, he
can do some real damage in the middle of that.
But you know, you know, Kraattini is still a guy
they got to mix in from both sides of the plate.
(44:05):
He's just one of the best pure hitters they have
on the team as far as back to ball skills.
So I don't think we're gonna see any changes in
playing time or approach or anything.
Speaker 2 (44:14):
They're gonna keep finding.
Speaker 11 (44:15):
A way to get Yiner in there when he's not catching,
and hopefully they get him going.
Speaker 1 (44:19):
Brian McTaggart with us here on Sports Talk seven ninety
five hits in his last two starts for zac Desenzo.
Speaker 2 (44:25):
What kind of role do you think he can carve
out for this team? Well, I think he might play more.
They love him.
Speaker 11 (44:33):
I mean, I you know, they like Cam Smith and
you know all you know what he brings and everything,
and certainly Cam has had his moments this year. He mean,
he hasn't been as electric as he was in the spring,
which is to be expected because you're playing in the
regular season. But they really like what what Descenzo brings
to the plate, how hard he hits the ball, his
approach at the plate, Excuse me, excuse me. He's pretty
(44:55):
pretty advanced. And I think we'll see him play more.
I mean, we all know he play really sparingly there
for a while, but I think it wouldn't surprise me
if he starts to take a few of those bats
away from Cam Smith and right field a little bit.
Speaker 2 (45:08):
I think he's starting to force Joe has spot his hand.
Speaker 11 (45:11):
There's really not a spot to mix him in otherwise,
because you know you're not gonna play him and left
unless you know, all two days at d H. But
then you know you got your down. You got to
get in there. You're not gonna play him at third
base with pereties, and you're not gonna play him at first.
Speaker 2 (45:25):
I mean, those are his positions.
Speaker 11 (45:26):
So if you're gonna get him in the lineup more,
it's gonna be probably the expense of Cam Smith. So
I think we'll see dia Uh, We'll see Zach play
a little bit more right field going forward here, you know,
putting up maybe a little bit of pressure on Cam
to start swinging the bat a little bit better as well.
Speaker 1 (45:43):
Isn't it crazy, Brian that it was the Cam Smith
for Rookie of the Year.
Speaker 2 (45:47):
Voting was already done by the end.
Speaker 1 (45:49):
Of spring training, and now you've got your Zach Decenzo
fan club growing saying we got to find a spot
for him. This sound the the wins of Major League
base during the course of the year. And I think
Cam's looking more and more comfortable in right field. I
don't think he's embarrassed himself so far. There have been
some plays that, you know, it looks like he's he's
(46:09):
a professional athlete. But if Decenzos back continues to you know,
be a nice lightning rod for this team. Uh, this
is going to be some interesting times to try to
balance who plays where and how to get guys playing
time because you've got a lot of guys, your veterans
that don't want to take days off. You know, you
know that Christian Walker doesn't want to take any time
off at first base. You know jose L Twov wants
(46:29):
to be in there at least six days a week.
You know you're on if he's not playing in left field,
wants a DH so uh. And then you got a
guy like a Chas McCormick, who just hasn't seen much
playing time at all of exceptional yesterday. There's a little
bit of I'm ready to go, but there's just not
enough spots in the field right now for the guys
that are looking to get that extra playing time.
Speaker 2 (46:49):
Yeah, totally.
Speaker 11 (46:49):
And again, if you're you know, if you're Joe Spot,
no great problem to have. I mean, you got guys
on the bench you want to try to get in
bats because they're being productive, and you can't do it
just because some guys are in train. I mean, Cam
Smith has not been batman. I think his ops is
over seven hundred. But you're right, he's looked more and
more comfortable in right field. The running catch on Sunday
night was was great. I mean he's very athletic out there.
(47:13):
You know, I think if he stayed out there, if
he does stay out there by the end of the year,
you know, I think it can be a very capable
right fielder. Despenso too, I mean, he's you know, he
played he played shortstop in college.
Speaker 2 (47:23):
You know, he's a big guy who can move really well.
Speaker 11 (47:26):
And so I think he can be a solid right
fielder as well. So that's gonna be a position to
watch going forward. When I think he got those two
guys now clearly are going to battle for some plenty time.
Accormacks can continue to be that late game replacement, whether
that's in the left field for Altuve or in right
field for either one of those guys when they had
the lead. So it's, uh, you know, the roster right
(47:47):
now is you know, it isn't bad. I mean, Joe's
gonna have to try to piece it together with the
hot hands and so forth, and but you know, having
Zach Decenzo hit, you know, Joe's spidal will take that
any day and find a way to get him in
the light up.
Speaker 1 (47:58):
All right, You've got a trip to camp in the
city this weekend at the Local nine and then aj
in Town and the rest of the Tigers come in.
They're playing some excellent baseball right now, and I don't
think we're sitting there going revenge series after last year's
wild Card. But that's the Detroit team just isn't slowing down.
So things are about to get a little more stout.
Kansas City can hit, They're not doing much pitching so far.
It'll be just kind of nice facing some American opponents.
(48:20):
It feels like this Astros schedule, at least so far
in the early portion of the year, has been so
National League dominant.
Speaker 11 (48:26):
Yeah, they came out of the gate with what six
games against the NL. Then they faced the Cardinals and
Padres back to back series, So yeah, good run of.
Speaker 2 (48:36):
AL teams coming up here.
Speaker 11 (48:38):
Yeah, I mean the Detroit I mean, myz and porpleson
look like number one picks. Finally, you know, they were
the number one overall picks and that they're playing like
and now school is Schooball. He's got a you know,
a sub one whip and a two point two two era,
so you I don't know if we're going to see
him next week or not, but you know when anytime
the tiger's coming down, AJ's gonna push all the buttons.
And I mean, you know, Detroit's probably one of the
(49:00):
top four or five teams in the American League at
this point. But hey, Astros are sitting at thirteen eleven.
They're only game behind the Rangers for first place. All
the all the talk, you know, a couple of weeks
into the season about you know, how terrible things were going,
and they're right there where they want to be, so
they just have to find a way to keep it
up and they should be able to go to Kansas
(49:20):
City and win a couple of those games.
Speaker 2 (49:22):
Hunter Browns pitching Sunday.
Speaker 1 (49:23):
Uh.
Speaker 11 (49:24):
If you remember last last season, Hunter Brown had that
disastrous start in Kansas City, you know where you couldn't
get out of the first inning. And so he's going
to go back there now as an ace, a chance
to exercise some demons.
Speaker 2 (49:35):
That'll be fun to watch as well.
Speaker 1 (49:36):
Did you ever think you're gonna say a Hunter Brown
and A's in the same conversation. I mean the answer
could be yes, But in your mind when you first
saw Hunter you say, this is the kind of guy
that could be potentially a number one guy in a rotation.
Speaker 11 (49:48):
Well, when you started hearing buzz about him in the
minor leagues, I guess when he got to high A
or double A. Uh, you know, people internally were talking like,
you know, this guy could be a big part of
the rotation. You're always skeptical, skeptical when guys like that
are moving through, and it's.
Speaker 2 (49:59):
Never he was before that like a top top prospect.
Speaker 11 (50:04):
But certainly this time last year I would not have
said that I mean, he was sort of clinging to
just life as a big leaguer. I mean, I think
he was probably getting close to getting shipped out before
he you know, he changed things up a little bit,
but it turned on a dime. And I think over
the since May one, he's got the second best E
ra A as far as starters in.
Speaker 2 (50:22):
The big league. So it's not that he's going to
be the ace or or what have you. He is
the ace.
Speaker 11 (50:28):
And that's some one knock on frimeber Valdez because he's
Ace one one B. But right now, if you line
up this rotation of the playoffs, Hunter Brown would start
a game one. So if you say that, then yeah,
that guy's your ace. And good for him for sticking
with it and making them necessary changes.
Speaker 1 (50:42):
All right, mister Mttager, thank you very much. We'll look
forward to hearing you tomorrow or in the on Deck
show and always reading your award winning material at MLB
dot com and astros dot com.
Speaker 2 (50:51):
Thank you for the visitors always. All right, Thanks Matt.
Speaker 1 (50:53):
All right, we'll see Brian McTaggart with us here every
Thursday on Sports Talk at seven and Ross. I just
don't get things sometimes I can see that, and we're
gonna come back and get a Kendrick Lamar concert review,
okay from you next wonderful.
Speaker 2 (51:11):
I just don't get it.
Speaker 1 (51:12):
Coming up at the bottom of the hour the news
at noon at twelve thirty, we talked to a member
of the NFL Draft community on all things about the
NFL Draft, and then at one o'clock Emai Doka George
is here on Sports Talk seven ninety all right, I
just don't get it as coming up at the bottom
of the hour. That's where you will call us with
(51:34):
something that is something that you're perplexed by. And because
I have sage advice, Ross occasionally at sage advice. Jonathan's
too young to give you any sage advice, so he'll
he'll just be an innocent advice. Soak everything. Uh yeah, yeah,
learn from us, learn from our mistakes, good examples and
(51:56):
bad ones. You can learn just as much from a
bad example as a good one.
Speaker 3 (51:59):
Exactly.
Speaker 1 (52:00):
Twitter question up today, should the Rocket fans apologize for
Draymond to Draymond for saying if you Draymond? One hundred
and seventy to eight votes are in ninety three percent
say oh hell.
Speaker 2 (52:09):
No, seven percent say yes. Very insensitive.
Speaker 1 (52:14):
I would probably think the seven percent that are voting
are saying, hey, we're better than that. We shouldn't be
sworing in a public atmosphere like that.
Speaker 2 (52:22):
I get that sentiment. I do.
Speaker 9 (52:23):
I do.
Speaker 1 (52:24):
I mean, it's it's not the craziest thing, but it's
also it's Draymond. But it's if it was literally and
if it was if you Curry, I'd probably feel a
little worse about it because Curry's irritated the hell out
of us.
Speaker 2 (52:34):
He's not a dirty player.
Speaker 1 (52:35):
And they gave all those negative reviews to his his
wife's restaurant. Yeah, did you ever eat there? No is
your national smoke. You're a big No, it's long gone,
I think. Okay, I have no idea because you're the
big You're the barbecue connoisseur of the group. Okay, I
wonder how their brisket was probably not good? You know
(52:55):
what I feel like? Right now, Let's go get us
a brisket. Let's chop it up, super fine and put
on top of a big potato. Does sound good to you?
Why did you just have a slice of brisket. We're
gonna chop.
Speaker 2 (53:04):
Chop it up. Let's chop it up real fine, real, fuck,
we don't have to We don't have to do this right.
Speaker 1 (53:08):
Well, so you're saying that a chopped baker is something
that should be legally served in Houston.
Speaker 2 (53:11):
I didn't say that.
Speaker 1 (53:13):
If the brisket is good, that's like saying, let's chop
up a ribbi and put it on a baked potato.
It's gonna be good. How you're supposed to eat it?
How about you chopped that rebbi real and put it
on a hogy roll? How about that? I mean you
can have anything, what on a hogy roll? Yeah, rabbi sandwich?
Yeah you want to get it. You gonna take a nice,
delicious crusted prime rabbi and put it on a sandwich.
Speaker 2 (53:33):
What you can be choing forever?
Speaker 3 (53:34):
Wait?
Speaker 2 (53:34):
How do you get your steak coke? Medium? Rare?
Speaker 1 (53:40):
We don't talk about steak temperatures. I've been already mounteds once. Yeah,
medium's fine. No, I'm not talking about me. I'm talking
about friend of the show. Oh okay. When I said
the certain friend of mine likes it well done, and
she's like, don't be putting on my steak temperature business
out there?
Speaker 2 (53:57):
Oh yeah, I'm my girl. You do always try to
put everybody's business out there.
Speaker 1 (54:02):
Well because it needs to be corrected. You don't need
to be eaten shoe leather. I talked to you when
you this show first started. You you talked about I
think you said medium well with a one. Yeah, but
that's big shame you, well, others the family did when
I first went I'll tell you the very fast story.
I'm going to get to this kender Lamar thing. I
(54:23):
went out with my future in laws to a high
end restaurant, Borton's. This has got to be late nineteen nineties,
and we're sitting there ordering our steak and I said,
well done. And he said, if I'm pink for that steak,
you're not getting it well done. I like that, and
I was okay with that. Yeah, I did it well
done when I was like twelve. You know, you don't
know any better. You don't and a one is delicious.
(54:45):
You put a one on it, the steak is like
it's overcooked. You have to figure out some way to
flavor it up. H all right, So there was a
lot going on in city Houston yesterday. He had the
Astros beating the Toronto Blue Jays. Yes, you had the
Rockets knocking off the Golden State Warriors to even that
series at a Game of Peace. And then you had
the Kendall Lamar concert. You said there are fifty thousand
plus people there. It was Honestly, I looked at the
(55:06):
now they did significantly reduce the tickets because the floor seats.
When I was looking at first, they were like a thousand,
then they went to seven hundred, and then they went
to three hundred in the last couple of days. But yeah,
I was a completely packed stadium. I was shocked. I
was floored, especially for someone who like Kendrick Lamar, who
came up as more of an underground type of conscious
rap guy and then to reach the heights that he
has now. Also, this is a co headlining tour with Sizza.
(55:30):
There was a lot of Sissa fans there, Like she
came out and you heard all these high pitch screams.
So I think there was a lot of Scissa fans there,
which I'm not a huge scissor. So did you did
you did you just sit there and listen to it
or did you I sat down? Yeah, So it was
basically so a DJ Mustard, Matt, you know the excuse
(55:52):
me the rap producer DJ Mustard DJ Mustard. Okay, his
first name is djon, so he goes by DJ Mustard,
all right, of course, yeah, uh yeah. He did a
set for like thirty minutes and then you know, that
was fun. And then Kendrick Lamar did a and then
it was basically co headlining. He Kendrick Lamar did a
handful of songs, then Scissy did songs and Kendrick, then
(56:13):
Scissy than Kendrick.
Speaker 2 (56:14):
It was a it was a co mixed.
Speaker 1 (56:15):
Mash and you had a great It's like I got
a little breather. Yeah, it was a great It was
a great time. My brother, uh, the best brother in
the world. He knows how much I like Kendrick Lamar.
He gifted me front row seats on the floor. Those
are the nicest teach You've ever been to in my life. Yeah,
not even close. I've been for somewhere, but I could
spit on Kendrick Lamar.
Speaker 2 (56:33):
I didn't. Did he talk to the audience much? Yeah,
a little bit, just more like, hey, hey, h town,
what's going on? Stuff like that. You throw the up.
Not that I recall he's from He's from Compton, Man,
He's from la. But does mean you can when you're
in Houston. I guess so maybe he did, but I
didn't notice. Again, I'm anti throwing. Okay, you can't throw
into the set up. You can't do that.
Speaker 1 (56:54):
Yeah, all right, Well, you know, if you're in Houston
and you just throw up an age, it's not that
big of a deal.
Speaker 2 (57:00):
And he didn't do people. Yeah, well he didn't do it. Yeah,
but yeah, it was a great show.
Speaker 1 (57:04):
Played all the new songs off of G and X,
played a lot of the diss songs. He had a
little skit where he was in a deposition because he's
being sued by well, UMG, the label is being sued
by Drake for all the diss tracks and stuff, so
no direct references to Drake. He played the song he
does with Drake, Poetic Justice. It was on his album
(57:25):
of Course A Good Kid, Mad City Matt. You know,
Apple Music named a top ten album of all time.
He's the Picasso of the entertainment industry right now, and
we're so blessed he was able to be in our community.
Full surprise winner twenty two Grammys. I think he's he's
at twenty two Grammys. Barry Manilal is still sitting at once,
So I don't think Barry's gonna catch him. Barry's University loved.
(57:46):
Kendrick's got a a mid fan base. Well, it was
a sold out stadium, So you don't think Barry Manilocal
seld NRG back in the seventies and eighties, he sure
as hell did could have.
Speaker 3 (57:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (57:58):
Absolutely, guys eighty years old and he's sawing out Radio
City Music Hall. Yeah, there's like, yeah, you know, Kendrick Comar.
It feels like thirty five hundred people.
Speaker 2 (58:07):
Kendrick Gamar will not be anywhere near this world.
Speaker 1 (58:10):
He's going to be sitting on a pile of money
with twenty more Grammys than Barry Manilow.
Speaker 2 (58:15):
What's up?
Speaker 1 (58:15):
And a Pulitzer Prize. Barry Manilow didn't have pullets a prize.
He didn't even write the song. I write the songs.
Speaker 2 (58:21):
Shut Jobo mass up, Barry Manilow. Wrong day of the week,
Wrong day, I'm kintting out. I got two months of
my concert.
Speaker 3 (58:30):
Where is it.
Speaker 1 (58:31):
Vegas and the West Gate? Yeah, of course that's my
that's my home away from home.
Speaker 2 (58:36):
No, that's good. It was a good show. It was packed.
Speaker 1 (58:38):
People were energetic. It was fun. I honestly couldn't. Like
I said, it's mind blowing to me that it's a
stadium tour.
Speaker 2 (58:48):
It's crazy. It'll be in a local casino within six months.
Speaker 1 (58:51):
Uh, unlikely, unlike Well, he's kind of a hermit person,
so once this tour is over, we're probably not gonna
hear from him for like five years. Oh, that'll be
a tragedy. Won't believe from Kendrick again. I'm so upset. Yeah,
he's already got I mean, in all time catalog, so
we don't need any more from him. No, I think
we've done enough. He's done enough. Let's go put him
in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (59:11):
He'll probably eventually be in there.
Speaker 1 (59:12):
Oh I think so. I mean they put hip hop
in their Donah? I think jas did jay Z make it?
I can't keep track?
Speaker 2 (59:17):

Do you have something in your life that's just don't
get no need to worry, no need to We will
just does something to see if we comprehend the things
that they.
Speaker 2 (01:04:22):
Can use our friends.
Speaker 18 (01:04:23):
It's time to say I just don't get it.
Speaker 3 (01:04:29):
All right.
Speaker 1 (01:04:30):
I have a sports to anyone, and it has to
do with the Rockets opponent in the playoffs. And I
feel like I could have been saying this for the
last ten years of this man's NBA career, Okay, I
and I mean this with the most honest approach I
(01:04:54):
can bring to you. I don't get how Draymond gets
away with it. There is there is not a page
on him. There isn't a chapter on him. There is
an encyclopedia. I know that Jonathan Union encyclopedia is, but
I mean there is a plethora of books about how
dirty Draymond Green is.
Speaker 2 (01:05:15):
There's whole YouTube mixtapes.
Speaker 1 (01:05:17):
You know, I go, I can go to like, uh,
you know Jayalen Green mixtape and it's ten minutes. Yeah,
you can go to Draymond Green Injuring People mixtape.
Speaker 2 (01:05:26):
It's a whole compilation.
Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
I I don't get how he gets away with it
every single I mean, when do you watch a Golden
State game involving a high end opponent. And I'm not
talking about Charlotte or at Landa or something like that,
but if you know there's Golden State's on TV all
the time, right, yes, ninety nine times out of one hundred.
And I'm not trying to embellish on this, ninety nine
(01:05:50):
times out of one hundred, there is a serious altercation
involving Draymond Green, and he comes across either getting just
a slap on the right, a technical foul or a
double foul or a double technical foul. You would get
rid of this insanity that is when he's on the
court by tossing his ass out of games about once
(01:06:12):
every two to three weeks.
Speaker 2 (01:06:13):
It just would work that way.
Speaker 1 (01:06:15):
You you would get rid of the nastiness if you
kicked him out on a regular basis, You just would.
I mean, there was the whole thing when who did
he spin around and hit I can't even remember who
it was. Jonas Valancunis or somebody, and he was suspended,
and then Adam Silver was like apparently like his personal
counselor on the phone with him, and then he had
(01:06:37):
to get counseling, and he had to spend time away
from the league. His old his own teammate, Jordan Poole
January tenth of last year. Draymond Green is vowing a
commitment to playing without the antics that have plagued him
on the court throughout his career.
Speaker 2 (01:06:56):
It's ridiculous. I'm with you.
Speaker 1 (01:06:57):
I mean, I get it to an extent. I guess
it's because you know, I mean, his baseline of violence
is so high that people are kind of used to it,
used to it. But I don't understand. I mean, like
I said, he could legitimately be kicked out of the league.
Don't get how he gets away with it. He got
(01:07:21):
the indefinite suspension last year and then he had like
mandated NBA counseling, and he hasn't changed. He's still the instigator.
And poor Steve Kerr to come to his defense. Somebody say,
please stop saying you Draymond children. Well, Tomas stopped raking
(01:07:42):
people in the face and kicking him in the nads
and pushing him to other people and pulling players down
in order to evolve of Frank. I mean, I talked
to Dylan Brooks about it. I mean it was a
silly offensive. Found got caught up in. I want to
talk to Draymond Green's children. Hey, Dre d Jr. And
whoever whatever.
Speaker 9 (01:08:01):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:08:01):
Look, I'm sorry that people were cursing at your dad,
but it's because consequences have actions in this world of ours,
and he's been kicking and scraping and elbowing and hurting
people for ten plus years. All Right, you have to
do you have to I'm saying now you're making a
little dred cry Matt.
Speaker 2 (01:08:20):
That's fine, he's he needs a tough en up. Drain
Aria is crying. Now you're up. Now, it's just not right.
Speaker 1 (01:08:26):
Dremania, Germania, Germania, Germanium. That is my I just don't
get this week. Okay, what do you got? That's good?
Speaker 6 (01:08:35):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:08:35):
I got a couple.
Speaker 1 (01:08:36):
Now, I get why there are exorbitant fees when you
buy tickets to concerts like these. Big I'll call him
out by name, Ticketmaster, with your your grifting, stealing fees
that you add. Now I understand it's because agreed, it's
because of money. I don't understand how these haven't been
made illegal. Did the Department of Justice sue Live Nation
(01:08:57):
and and and Ticketmaster?
Speaker 2 (01:09:00):
Where are we at on that? Can we get the
Supreme Court on this? What's going on?
Speaker 1 (01:09:06):
I don't get how they continue to allow to steal
money when you have it was like one hundred and
fifty dollars. Ticket had like fifty dollars worth of fees
on it. I don't get how this is continuing to
be allowed. It's ridiculous and I'm sick of it. I'm
gonna piggyback off of years on too much smaller extent.
I staid at a hotel by the office this morning.
(01:09:26):
I brought this up before they charged me at twenty
nine dollars to park Ooh that hurts in resort fees too.
While we're on hotels. Resort fees are biggest scam time.
I mean, I understand why people Some people can uber
from an airport or an office to a hotel so
you don't have to take up the space. But most
people that go to the hotel that are staying by
(01:09:46):
the gallerya where I was last night drove there. It's
a blatant ripoff. You're getting nothing but the ability to
park your car for twenty nine dollars.
Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (01:09:56):
I just don't get it, Greed, it's just charge ten
hours higher and let me have my free parking. Nope,
we got to charge for everything. We got to charge
more for everything. We got to ask for more. Ticket
prices going up really faster than inflation, grocery prices. Movie,
(01:10:17):
have you tried to go to a movie? How about
you going out to dinner?
Speaker 2 (01:10:20):
Yeah? All right, I got one more for you, Matt, please.
Speaker 1 (01:10:26):
And I've done this before too, I think, and this
is fresh in my mind because I was at the
wonderful Kendrick Lamarin says a concert last night. I understand
taking like a couple of photos and a video here there,
especially of your favorite song. But when you have your
phone out the entire is a two hour concert. There
are people who have their phone out the entire concert.
(01:10:47):
I don't get it. You're going to uh, I'm gonna,
unfortunately have to disagree and say I totally get it
two hours because phone. My daughter, who has been to
two Taylor Swift concerts, has about seventy five videos of
every song that Taylor Swift saying it. Each one of
those she goes and watches every one of them all
the time, all the time. Well, your daughter's a psychopath.
All right, I'm glad you said that to me right
(01:11:09):
to my face. That feels a little rather the kids.
You know, it's the kids. No, it's the kids. She's
the kids. She loves it because she likes to go
back and listen to it. It gives her great memories.
So much of the money that I spent on her
to go see I guess at.
Speaker 2 (01:11:21):
Least you're getting your money's worth. That is true. That
is true. You got to enjoy the moment. I got
to get off your phone.
Speaker 1 (01:11:26):
You tell little Carly to get off the phone for
like two songs and just drinking the energy in the
in the emotion. Okay, why don't you give her a
little love on the phone call? You know she's gonna
tell you to do you send that you sent her
that audio?
Speaker 3 (01:11:38):
All right?
Speaker 1 (01:11:39):
Seven one three two one two five seven And let's
go to my screen's networking. Chris in Sugarland. Chris, I
have a simple question for you, my friend. What don't
you get man?
Speaker 3 (01:11:52):
I don't get the way.
Speaker 6 (01:11:54):
These referees allow Draymond to get it away as much
as he does. But I think he I'm gonna tell
you what happened. He set the presidents of intimidate him
so much. They are timidated. They they're scared of him,
of kicking him out of the game. Because now, this
narrative is that when he gave Lebron the the nutmeg,
(01:12:16):
that it cost Golden State a championship, which is false
because they had two other games in their arena and
they lost both of those games.
Speaker 3 (01:12:22):
But there as a narrative out there.
Speaker 6 (01:12:24):
For that, and the fact that you know he's he's
intimidating those reps, you can till they're scared of him.
You know, the things that he get away with no
other player can get away with. And it disturbs the
heck out of me. Man, I can't stand Draymond as
a basketball player. Now I livemon listen to a month's podcast.
He's really good, is informative, but as a player, yeah,
(01:12:45):
he's really good with that. He's good, he's good with that,
But as far as a basketball player, he is not
worth the money he gets. His whole antike is about
being a dirty player. But another thing really quick with
you guys, think another thing that is tied into it
is the fact that without Draymond, I don't think Steph
(01:13:05):
will be stuff. I think he still will be good now,
but he's I think Draymond is such an important piece
to their whole scheme and the way they play basketball.
They need him because they need stuff. So they keep
Draymond on the court because they really need stuff to
have opportunity to keep the you know, to keep the
fans coming in and you know the views on the
(01:13:25):
on the TV. Really one more thing, Hey man, Cam
is coming, cam Water is coming.
Speaker 1 (01:13:36):
That's is who I am is and Zach Mettenberger was coming.
And who's the other stiff quarterback or whoever he was
terrible to Let me tell you, Chris, your team sucks.
Speaker 2 (01:13:49):
Your future stadium is gonna suck. Amy sucks.
Speaker 1 (01:13:53):
And you know who Steph Curry needs. He doesn't need
Draymond Green. He needs Jimmy Butler out there. That was
that was a lost soul out there without Jimmy Butler.
And that was the reason why they made the train. Yeah,
and it worked out for him. Yeah, I disagree with
(01:14:14):
the notion that Draamond unlocks Steph, but he was. He
was absolutely integral part of this championship run that they've
been on for sure, five by five player, great ball distributor,
great defender, defensive player of the year. But yeah, cam
Ward is coming, will Levis is coming, Malik Willis is coming.
Speaker 2 (01:14:32):
Malik Willis.
Speaker 1 (01:14:34):
I don't know if I could if there's a term
for super suck, but he's super sucked.
Speaker 2 (01:14:40):
Marcus Mariota is coming, Zach Mettenberger is coming.
Speaker 1 (01:14:43):
They're all the Titans, QBS. May you live in fourth
place to the rest of your adult life. Granted the
Texans aren't locker back in the old Jake locker too.
Oh god man, it's a pleasure. You can get Blake
Bortles somehow someway in there and for a few snaps,
Mince Young. Where do you go to school? University of Tech?
(01:15:03):
Greg Collgson a great college career, Yeah he did. Is
the steak House still round by the way, I think so?
I ate there once years ago. It was said it
was good as honestly at that at that time, the
best ribbon I'd ever had money. Well, my guess is
that's just his name. He has no no he licensed
the name. Yeah like Bigio's just like yeah, Craig's down
out there cracking eggs and running the bios, not making
(01:15:24):
the nochos for you downtown. No, all right, we will
get to Jonathan's just don't get it. I mean he's
a young man. He's gonna have something in his life
he doesn't get Dan and Mike will get to you
as well. Loven forty three on Sports Talk seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven ninety All right,
Jonathan twenty two years old, if you think it's in life,
you don't get what you got.
Speaker 2 (01:15:44):
Let's go leave no word.
Speaker 19 (01:15:46):
You know what?
Speaker 20 (01:15:47):
I just don't get what? How today is my mom's birthday?
Hy birthday?
Speaker 3 (01:15:51):
Mom?
Speaker 2 (01:15:51):
Does let us out there?
Speaker 3 (01:15:53):
All right?
Speaker 2 (01:15:53):
Do you want us to explain it? How your it's
your mom's birth Hold your mom? Twenty three? Say it again?
Twenty three. He doesn't want to say, man, so I'd
be asking. No, she's tiny three.
Speaker 19 (01:16:04):
You see, I'm just saying, just asking, But what I
don't get Back to back days you're chewing on air
Mint segment back to me you already how.
Speaker 2 (01:16:16):
Long have you been in radio business?
Speaker 9 (01:16:17):
Matthew?
Speaker 2 (01:16:17):
This time slot so long have you been in the radio?
Back to his mom? No, I don't care.
Speaker 1 (01:16:22):
I want to meet his mom. So what don't you
get about your mom's birthday? You didn't get her gift?
I just I just don't get.
Speaker 20 (01:16:31):
You know, it's kind of like I guess y'all are older,
but it's just I just don't get how like it's
on her birthday again, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:16:36):
I'm getting a little mama's well, I I got terrible around.
In sixty five days, they add a number to the year.
They just do, and then nine months later baby comes out.
So what you're and then they call that your birthday? What's
your mom's name?
Speaker 2 (01:16:50):
NAIOLI? Nail me what's up? And nail me what's up?
Speaker 4 (01:16:52):
Girl?
Speaker 2 (01:16:53):
Why are you saying what's up? Girl? It's just saying
why are you what's up?
Speaker 3 (01:16:57):
Girl?
Speaker 2 (01:16:57):
In his mother? I mean she's got to be about
my age, right, Yeah, No.
Speaker 20 (01:17:00):
She's uh, he's not gonna say he said, or gen
X to the next Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:17:06):
My gen x.
Speaker 3 (01:17:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:17:07):
I think I think you're a baby boomer.
Speaker 1 (01:17:09):
No I'm not. I'm definitely a baby, but you're a boomer.
Stop that's false. Okay, boomer, Okay, so I don't really
get what you don't get. I mean, she she turns
every year New Year.
Speaker 20 (01:17:18):
I like how old she has. She's like an old woman,
you know what I mean. Like, I just don't get it.
Speaker 2 (01:17:23):
I just he's trying to contribute.
Speaker 1 (01:17:24):
Man, Okay, we're gonna have to give you some ideas.
I would think in your life at twenty two doors,
all things you don't like at twenty two doors, all
things to my life.
Speaker 2 (01:17:36):
I didn't get.
Speaker 20 (01:17:37):
Oh, you don't have everything. I have one off the
top of head. I don't get the phase and the
lip filler on women. Now it's everywhere, every going to
your serious trouble. Now, am I wrong?
Speaker 3 (01:17:48):
And no, you're not right.
Speaker 1 (01:17:49):
It's every well, Sizza was on stage with her fillers.
I think, I think, can we trace it to the Kardashians.
Speaker 2 (01:18:01):
I think we can. We can trace it to reality television.
Speaker 1 (01:18:04):
Yeah, I think, yeah, Kardashians, and then the Real Housewives
with the lip filler thing, and then you had.
Speaker 2 (01:18:10):
The uh, the the.
Speaker 1 (01:18:13):
Young twenty year olds that are in the house. They
got the summer house and stuff up in the East
and Hampton's and all. Yeah, you know what I got
news for you? I get it. It's reality television has
created a new phenomenon. Yeah, but real housewives all that stuff. Hi,
my name is Ross. Embrace yourselves, ladies. You're beautiful just
the way you are. Don't get these giant lip fillers
(01:18:34):
where it looks like they put helium in your lips
and it looks like I can burst them with a
pinprick like I think. Denise Richards is still very sexy
to this day, but hurt you know from uh you
have I know who she is, but how are you
What is Denise Richard's up to that you're seeing?
Speaker 3 (01:18:51):
God, she's not.
Speaker 1 (01:18:52):
She's got her own reality TV showing okay that for
a while. Okay, Yeah, her lips look jacked. They're really big.
We we as men like regular sized lips, right, Jonathan
see Dan on seven ninety Damn, what don't you get?
Speaker 2 (01:19:16):
Can I can I put two things out there? Of course?
All right? Uh?
Speaker 21 (01:19:21):
Well, I think you're remembering the old Denise Richards. But
this isn't my my my thing. You're you're remembering him
from that great movie in the nineties with Nev Campbell.
Speaker 2 (01:19:32):
But wild Things, there we go, wild Things.
Speaker 1 (01:19:36):
Let me take us up that scene between her and
nev that's a top tenor right there. That's one of
the great old times. Got snub for Oscar best picture.
If you ask me, I mean it was I would
say basically it was a kenderck lamar of acting.
Speaker 2 (01:19:46):
Wow.
Speaker 21 (01:19:48):
Well, I would say it could turn gay men straight
and straight women lesbian.
Speaker 2 (01:19:54):
All right, I get that, continue on, all right, So
here's here's.
Speaker 21 (01:19:59):
My I I don't get why two things. One one,
why Steph Curry is considered a point guard when he's
obviously a shooting guard. He never brings the ball up.
He's he's a shooting guard. He's not a point guard.
Speaker 1 (01:20:15):
Hand Pa Chemski split time. But I it's fine. It's
semantics a little bit, I think. I mean, yeah, he
plays a lot off ball as their point guard. Really
has been Draymond Green over the years, but was off
the ball too. I mean it's just semantics. Is a
scoring point guard whatever? Yeah, they both. They both do
their fair number of bouncing ball across. Again, it's it
(01:20:36):
gets kind of mood that whole team. That whole team
is is atypical. I mean, you don't have six six
centers typical in the NBA, except if you're playing for
Golden State.
Speaker 2 (01:20:45):
True.
Speaker 21 (01:20:46):
No, I agree, It's just it's a different narrative with
him being a shooting guard versus a point guard, because
they want to make him out to say he's, you know,
the top two point guard.
Speaker 2 (01:20:58):
Of all time.
Speaker 21 (01:20:59):
And that's kind of my second thing is I'm kind
of tired of the narrative of him possibly being the.
Speaker 2 (01:21:07):
Goat or up there.
Speaker 21 (01:21:08):
Look, he is good, and he is great, but we
even the greats never had really off nights, especially in
the playoffs. I mean, he just completely dissolved and disappeared yesterday.
Speaker 1 (01:21:20):
Yeah, but he's also got like I don't have the
number in front of him, thirty seven. He's also got
like sixty thirty point playoff games. I mean, he's had
quite a career. I mean, I'm not going to smirt
Steph Curry.
Speaker 2 (01:21:32):
He's not. We were talking about this yesterday and thank
you Dan for the phone call.
Speaker 1 (01:21:35):
He's not a top ten player, but he's the greatest
shooter of all time. I mean that's he's fringe. I
got him in the top fifteen. I would say fifteen, sure,
but not top ten.
Speaker 2 (01:21:47):
If we're bumping.
Speaker 1 (01:21:48):
Larry Bird for Nikoloa Jokic, we're not putting Steph Curry
in the list either. I'm not bumping Steph Curry for
Larry Bird. It's really tough.
Speaker 2 (01:21:58):
Maybe I can. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:21:59):
We'll see.
Speaker 1 (01:22:00):
I'm trying to figure out ESPN ranked the NBA seventy
five team. I'm trying to find out where they put
They put Steph Curry sixteenth, behind Moses Malone and ahead
of Derk Nooviski.
Speaker 2 (01:22:13):
And where is Larry Bird in the mix? He's in
the top ten.
Speaker 1 (01:22:20):
They have Larry Bird's seventh, all right, they carry Hi
dug eighth.
Speaker 2 (01:22:26):
Who Tim Duncan eight eleven. Tim Duncan's not the eighth
best player ever to play.
Speaker 1 (01:22:32):
Seven Durant twelve, Hakeem Olajuan thirteen, Julius Serving fourteen. I
love doctor j. He's not the fourteenth best player of
all time. Sorry, all right, let's go to Mike before
we get to the news at noon. Mike, what don't
you get my man? Good times last night in Houston, Texas.
Good concert at the HBU McNair music Hallaikowski's r G
(01:22:58):
staging Daikowski's eighteen forty nine requisite. That's not really a thing.
Oh you may tell me like some of the Kendrick
Lamar concert for sure. Uh Chaikowski. The new season of
Houston Symphony will have Chaikowski's Piano Concerto Number One, which
is one of my favorite pieces.
Speaker 2 (01:23:15):
I'll be very busy for that. You should go see it.
It's wonderful.
Speaker 1 (01:23:18):
I got astros on deck, so one of the best
pianists in the world will be playing it as well. Okay, good,
can't wait. I'll be busy with astros all rockets that matter. Yeah,
I'm supposed to go see Okay, you're trying to organize
your personal life on the airline. I'm supposed to cut
(01:23:38):
into Symphony in May twenty third of the Rocket's going to.
Speaker 2 (01:23:41):
Be in the laff. Of course they are. Duh oh way.
Speaker 1 (01:23:45):
Another a minus performance for Jonathan Pluce again playing a
Vlad Guerrero highlight as a part of the good Time.
So maybe in his mind, La Guerrero is a Houston
astro because that's.
Speaker 2 (01:23:54):
What he really wants. He's trying to be fair and balance.
So yeah, hey, I get you. You've returned him.
Speaker 1 (01:23:58):
The old Fox News of Thought we were on in Toronto.
They moojazyah. They got swept by the astros. I'd love
to go back to Toronto. I can get my passport updated.
By the way, those pesky astros. Why do you think
everybody sounds like they're from Fargo.
Speaker 2 (01:24:16):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:24:18):
I love Toronto, Toronto, super cosmopolitan city. Okay, you would
love Toronto. All right, get my ticket.
Speaker 2 (01:24:25):
I'll go. Well, it's on the list. The list. You
were on the front road to Kendrick Lamarlos a plane
in Toronto. I got a long list and limited funds. Man.
Speaker 1 (01:24:35):
All right, ladies and gentlemen, twelve to ten, time for
us to give you the news at dude, right now,
right this second, the news, and dude, here we go.
Speaker 2 (01:24:49):
Yeah, some collars chatting them up. We go to the
Frank Bildings Lee of Houston Sports News.
Speaker 1 (01:24:54):
Yes, Matthew, you just heard the highlights last night.
Speaker 2 (01:24:57):
A lot of.
Speaker 1 (01:24:58):
Victories for the city of Houston. Didn't seem like. There
was a huge crowd at the Ashros game. We'll get
to that in a moment.
Speaker 2 (01:25:06):
But Rockets defeat the Warriors one, nine to ninety four.
It was a beatdown.
Speaker 1 (01:25:11):
We had the caller earlier talking about Steph Curry being
a no show. I mean, he had twenty points and
nine assists. I wouldn't call that a no show in
a playoff game. More so, what Jalen Green probably did
in Game one was a no show. But in Game
two he showed up and showed out thirty five minutes
thirty eight points, eight of eighteen from three point land.
(01:25:32):
He also had for rebound, six assists, three steals, turned
the ball over twice, and part of a Houston Rockets
victory over the Golden State Warriors, by the way, where
Jimmy Butler was injured. So far, all we know is
that he is day to day with the pelvis contusion
and they're in flight right now as we speak, and
(01:25:54):
I'm assuming as soon as they get there they will
get an MRI on that. So I thought it was
a lot of times when guys get they don't want
to fly because it can get things can get inflamed.
Speaker 2 (01:26:03):
Well, wasn't even on my train.
Speaker 1 (01:26:04):
Yeah, I don't know. He just may wait wait a
day for the swelling to go down. They don't play
it on Saturday. I mean, I guess he probably could
have stayed. I don't know if he traveled with this.
What I'm saying, I wonder. I'm just curious Anyways, Jimmy
Butler questionable going forward for the Golden State Warriors. I
think the Rockets can beat the Warriors with Jimmy Butler playing,
but without them, and that hugely tips the scales in
(01:26:27):
the rockets favor as. Game number three will be Saturday
on news Radio seven forty eight year age.
Speaker 2 (01:26:34):
It's five to seven thirty Tip time. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:26:37):
By the way, Jay Billis is going to do the
television broadcast of that. He is why he's been doing
a lot of NBA this year. I'll take your word
for it. Okay, elsewhere on the NOWL like Jay Bills.
Do you like ja Billis?
Speaker 4 (01:26:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:26:48):
I think he's like man, I kind of even do
some more than college bass. I think he's good.
Speaker 1 (01:26:51):
He went on the warpath for athletes getting paid and
being exploited by the NCAA, So that always endears Jay
Billis to me.
Speaker 2 (01:26:57):
Yeah, but he probably can't be happy with the way
it's out of control.
Speaker 1 (01:27:00):
Hey, sorry, it's been out of it's out of control
because all the money that's been made for all these years. Anyways,
it sounds like we're gonna get direct payments from schools
to our athletes now.
Speaker 2 (01:27:12):
Didn't wear it how I mean, it's just how does
that work? Losing? Are they losing any sort of legislative powers?
Speaker 1 (01:27:20):
It sounds like the commissioners of these conferences have asked
for Congress that get involved.
Speaker 2 (01:27:26):
How does Congress, What does Congress need to be involved in?
What way? Regulation to do? How much? How much guys
get paid, how much schools? I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:27:33):
It's above my paper. I just don't think there's no
regulation whatsoever.
Speaker 2 (01:27:36):
It's it's I'm just saying.
Speaker 1 (01:27:38):
Rambunctious, it's crazy, it's walk, it's wild. They're looking for
some some sort of oversight. Yeah, let's go to somebody
who's really good at oversights and we'll run things efficiently.
The US government they're known for their efficiency. You do
the Highlands, then look check my four O one K
all right, Astros the Blue Jays, Ryan Gusto, I mean
(01:28:03):
he is going to be a part of this rotation
if Lance Colors Junior comes back and they go to
a six man rotation, as Joe A. Spota alluded to
us here on this show earlier this week, he is
earning a spot five and two thirds innings, pitched three hits,
just one earned run, just one walk, six strikeouts. He
has been very good at two point seven to eight
ERA on this season. And again he goes to his
(01:28:26):
triumvirate Joe Spota that he's been trusting Brian King, Brian Bray, you,
Josh Hater locking things down and by the way, Josh
Hater seven for seven in safe opportunities.
Speaker 2 (01:28:37):
Super low ERA. Right, Hm, it's been very well.
Speaker 1 (01:28:39):
Yeah, earlier conversation with Brian mcteckery, did you bring up
Josh Hader?
Speaker 2 (01:28:42):
I can't remember. I zoned out at the end there,
so I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (01:28:44):
Well, I wanted to bring it up, but yeah, I
think Hunter Brown's probably answer number one for Astros MVP
early this season. I could make an argument for Josh
Hader number two as an Astros.
Speaker 2 (01:28:54):
MVP this season.
Speaker 1 (01:28:55):
He's been great point six nine ERA, point six nine
whip and nobody seems to worry about how much money's
making this year when you're throwing those babies. Funny how
that works? Mat It's crazy? Yes, and that's all we
have time for.
Speaker 2 (01:29:07):
You to do it. Nuone, Okay, fine. Kendrick Kamar was
in town. I thought it was a great show.
Speaker 1 (01:29:10):
A lot of Scizzor fans, a lot of Kendrick fans,
full stadium at NRG and a great show. What did
you eat and drink? I drank some beers. I did
not eat there. I eat beforehand. Okay, it was a
seven o'clock show. I eate a little bit before.
Speaker 2 (01:29:25):
So it started? Did it start right at seven?
Speaker 1 (01:29:27):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (01:29:28):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:29:28):
DJ Mustard came on probably around seven thirty. Okay. So
DJ Mustard comes on the stage.
Speaker 3 (01:29:33):
Huh.
Speaker 2 (01:29:34):
And he mixes a bunch of songs. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:29:36):
Does he sing during them? These things he doesn't sing?
Is just getting the crowd HiPE? Doing DJ stuff?
Speaker 3 (01:29:41):
Hey?
Speaker 1 (01:29:42):
Yeah, I mean, you know, playing the song, let the
people sing the songs, mixing things up?
Speaker 2 (01:29:46):
What's up, Houston? You're ready to party? What I could?
Speaker 6 (01:29:48):
I have?
Speaker 2 (01:29:48):
Hyping things? But I've been able to sing any of
the songs that were the DJ Mustard play.
Speaker 1 (01:29:52):
No, No, you almost thought about what There was a
song he played at the end when I was going
to the bathroom.
Speaker 2 (01:29:58):
I can't remember what his car.
Speaker 1 (01:29:59):
It was like a regular pop song, but you wouldn't
known it because it was after nineteen seventy six. It
feels personal. That's not personal. I have songs on my phone.
Post started his set with some of his stuff from
the new album gn X. Then he mixed things up
and then it was Sizza, then Kendrick. They kind of
alternated and they have a lot of songs together as well.
So I have at least five kum O d songs
(01:30:20):
on my phone cool Mote five.
Speaker 2 (01:30:22):
There's no way I have one Wild Wild West.
Speaker 3 (01:30:25):
Nope?
Speaker 2 (01:30:25):
Uh which basketball there? It is twelve sixteen.
Speaker 1 (01:30:31):
It is the Matt Thomas Show with Raw seven one
three two one two five seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:30:36):
It is NFL Draft Night. Yes, and Shane Hallim is right, gentlemen's.
Speaker 1 (01:30:39):
Name right, Shane Hallam, Draft Sharks Shane he Hallam, by
the way on Twitter, not to be confused with Shane F.
Speaker 2 (01:30:45):
Hallam.
Speaker 1 (01:30:46):
We'll talk to him at the bottom of the hour
if you miss what we What does Steve Kerr had
to say about Draymond Green? My God, I want yeah,
let's play this again. We're gonna play this again. Apparently
you are being admonished by the head coach, you being
the City Houston, about the way you treated.
Speaker 2 (01:31:00):
One dream on Green Children twelve seventeen.
Speaker 1 (01:31:03):
On Sports Talk seven nighty, we have Shane Hallam joining
us our NFL Draft insider insider expert guru draftnick whatever
we can possibly call him, well to call him?
Speaker 3 (01:31:14):
I like it.
Speaker 2 (01:31:16):
Uh, I was just looking at Twitter.
Speaker 1 (01:31:17):
In the for You tab here, Jars Taylor was asked
about his draft night, says he doesn't remember because he
drank forty one cores lights forty one he's talking about
tap the Rockies drained the Rockies. There were no more
Rockies left, no water flowing down anywhere.
Speaker 2 (01:31:35):
Yeah, they were flying with flying forty one course lights.
What was the what was the Wade bogs on one flight?
Did he do like fifty or something like that?
Speaker 1 (01:31:49):
If you're drinking forty one cores lights in one night,
in one sitting, you're just literally pounding them like you're
just not You're not sitting comfortably, You're just literally just
drinking endlessly.
Speaker 2 (01:31:59):
Right, How many times you go to the bathroom? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:32:02):
Wade Boggs apparently tells the story that he drank seventy
three beers on one flight from Boston to it Let,
Los Angeles. That's a five hour flight. Seventy three beers?
Speaker 2 (01:32:15):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 1 (01:32:18):
How do you not just combust? How many times are
you going to the plain bathroom? How many beers can
fit in your bladder. What if your turbulenced you get
into this Times says you can't go Oh, that's can't
be real. I just can't be real.
Speaker 2 (01:32:33):
All the under the Giant ones.
Speaker 1 (01:32:34):
I believe Andre the Giant was seven foot six or
whatever it was founds.
Speaker 2 (01:32:39):
That makes a lot of those.
Speaker 1 (01:32:41):
Yeah, all right, Uh, there's a pole question I have
available if you want to take a look at it
on the Twitter account at sports Wonderful, where you'll find
great commentary, hilarity. It's really pound for pound, maybe the
best Twitter account out there. One hundred and ninety seven
votes are in. We need to get some more votes. Okay,
one of the people voting. This is an easy peasy
(01:33:02):
question here. Question is should Rocket fans apologize to Draymond
for saying if you Draymond, it happened. I want to
say at least two times during the game last night,
okay that I you know, I had the earphones on it,
and I didn't need to really hear what he said
the first time around. I was able to decipher it
the second time, but the first time I was not.
I was like I was telling Clinton, I said, what
are you saying? Is we can't say on the air
(01:33:25):
and the second time, you pretty much could figure it out. Yeah,
And Steve Kerr Jonathan was asked about this after last
night's game, and he gives this.
Speaker 2 (01:33:36):
Responsible, fatherly response.
Speaker 5 (01:33:40):
It's not not ideal when a crowd is, you know,
channing f you Draymond.
Speaker 2 (01:33:46):
It's just I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:33:48):
I mean, it did in Boston a few years ago
in the finals.
Speaker 2 (01:33:54):
It is what it is.
Speaker 5 (01:33:55):
Draymond's he's been around forever. You know, he's an instigator.
He's he's always going to be in the mix. And
because of his uh, his career, his you know, his championships,
his fire, he's going to be a lightning rod.
Speaker 2 (01:34:13):
And that's all part of it.
Speaker 5 (01:34:16):
I would prefer, you know, if if fans could use
a little more discretion and you know, uh remember that,
you know, the guy has kids, and you know, it's
like there's kids. I don't know, I just maybe I'm
old school, but I'm all for the fans cheering for
their team, and if they want to yell at the
opponent's great. But I don't know, I just think f
(01:34:38):
you is it's a little much.
Speaker 1 (01:34:41):
Okay, So let's do this children, Let's be responsible as
talk show hosts here, let's come up with a plan.
Speaker 4 (01:34:51):
B M.
Speaker 2 (01:34:52):
I'm gonna open the phone lines. Well, we can't. We
got our draft guy. We'll wait for this little bit.
We don't like you. Let me episodes.
Speaker 1 (01:35:01):
We don't like you. We don't like you. You're a
bad person. You injure people. You should be kicked out.
Speaker 3 (01:35:14):
Of the league.
Speaker 2 (01:35:16):
None of these are ring. Oh, please be nice, Please
be nice, Please be nice. You're a disgrace.
Speaker 3 (01:35:27):
First.
Speaker 1 (01:35:28):
Yeah, I'm thinking of all the possibilities. I think kind
of f you Draymond Fitz yea if he didn't disgrace
himself for a decade plus injuring everyone and scratching everyone's
eyes out and kicking them in the nads and literally
getting an indefinite suspension from the league for hitting people
with spinning backfists making UFC moves, and then Commissioner himself
(01:35:50):
has to be your own personal therapist. This is all
on you, Draymond. Sorry, is the only time. Can you
recall this happening to any other any other time in Houston?
Let me see this one works? Bitch, Please, no, bitch, please?
Huh could work?
Speaker 2 (01:36:12):
We don't like you. Uh you're playing dirty?
Speaker 22 (01:36:18):
Uh Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:36:21):
He's playing like UFC stuff like UFC one before the
outlawed I gouging.
Speaker 2 (01:36:28):
Meg love not war, Meg, love not war. How about
this one?
Speaker 1 (01:36:35):
Give peace a chance, a chance, A chance, a chance?
How about band Draymond, Band Ramond Ban Draymond. See you
know what, I kind of love to take a break
on this note. I think Ramond is much better. Quickly, Well,
(01:36:55):
it just shows you there was nothing else that fit
this color has a idea. All right, really quick, hit
line one for me because I can't hit it. Oh
my god, don't blame me. It's a technology, John, John,
what is the great thing we could have said last night?
Speaker 2 (01:37:10):
Had been much more polite than nephew Draymond. Let's go Draymond,
Like if you Biden.
Speaker 1 (01:37:17):
Oh, I got you. Let's go draft Brandon thing. Oh,
let's go Draymond.
Speaker 2 (01:37:23):
Yeah, let's go Brandon.
Speaker 1 (01:37:25):
That would have really thrown him off. Let's go Draymon
would have been really funny. All right, let's get some
NFL draft talk. We got a segment of that to
get to. I know nobody else in the marketplace to
talk and draft somes. We might as well do it, right, Huh.
It is twelve twenty nine Shane Hallam from the website
known as draft Sharks draft sharks dot com next on seven.
Speaker 2 (01:37:45):
Ninety all right, is that time of year.
Speaker 1 (01:37:48):
It is finally here Draft Day and we are here
to talk about it with you folks on the Matt
Thomas Show with Ross with Shane Hallam. We do thank
him Draft Sharks. We do need to thank him Shames.
Before we get to the nuts and bolts of it.
We have tried for many weeks to get people on
the show and you are available and nice enough to
come on. So thank you to Houston from us for
(01:38:11):
coming on the show. I know you've been busy time.
How are you, sir? Thank you for being on our program.
Speaker 23 (01:38:16):
Oh no, I appreciate you guys having me. It's like
Christmas Eve here, you know. I'm just waiting to wake
up and open the Presence and in a couple hours,
so I'm pumped up.
Speaker 2 (01:38:25):
All right.
Speaker 1 (01:38:26):
So before we get to the to the nuts and
bolts of the Texans and what they should be doing,
how do you set up your day? You're in front
of a television, you are making some phone calls. First
of all, just generally speaking, do you think there's going
to be a massive amount of up and down with
guys and teams shifting draft orders, or do you think
things will stay pretty much sedentary.
Speaker 23 (01:38:46):
I think we're going to see some movements just because
this draft really falls off after the top three picks.
I think maybe teams have kind of a second tier
there and that four through twelve range. I think it's
where you'll see teams that jump up from maybe the
late teams early twenties into that top twelve and then
I think it will kind of settle down. Then we
(01:39:07):
get late in the first teams are going to be
hitting the end of the who they great as first
round draft picks, and that's when you see those teams popping.
We saw last year the last two picks the first round.
We're trade ups from the second round, so I think
that might happen again tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:39:22):
Yeah, and Shane, I also going to ask you just
in general this draft, how do you see it in
terms of it being top heavy players that you have
with the first round grade and some positions of strength
and weakness in this draft.
Speaker 23 (01:39:37):
I think it's top heavy. I think there's kind of
a big three in this draft. We have cam Ward,
who's obviously going to go number one, Travis Hunter, the
receiver corner from Colorado, who's probably going to go number two,
and then I'm duing Carter the edge from Penn State,
it's probably going to go number three. I think those
guys are the elite prospects in this draft, and then honestly,
from there it really falls off. You know, Ashton jk
(01:39:59):
the running back from State. If he wasn't a running back,
I think would be in that conversation, but positional value,
you know we're hearing he's probably going to go in.
Speaker 2 (01:40:06):
The top five.
Speaker 23 (01:40:07):
Because after those big three, it kind of falls off.
I mean, I think it's a strong draft in certain areas.
Running back, offensive line, corner are all pretty strong, but
not you know, not necessarily players that you look at
and you say, wow, this is a blue chip, can't
miss prospect. Everyone kind of has flaws after those top three,
(01:40:27):
and that's what makes this draft difficult.
Speaker 1 (01:40:29):
Shane, if the Texas day at twenty five, would you
be satisfied with a potential tackle guard available to them
or do you think if they really want to make
a difference maker, get a guy that could start potentially
Week one, they've got to move.
Speaker 2 (01:40:43):
Up in the draft.
Speaker 23 (01:40:45):
I think if you want that difference maker, you have
to move up, probably for Kelvin Banks out of Texas
or Arma Membo out of Missouri, and those two are
projected to go in the top twelve. So I think
if Houston's probably making those calls gauging how much it
would take, and you know, we know that the next
area has been aggressive in the past, so it certainly
(01:41:07):
could happen. But I'm kind of comfortable with the choices
they may have. Josh Connery, the tackle from Oregon, maybe
doesn't have this kind of upside that those top guys have,
but it really rock solid in a major program going
up against pass rushers that are going to get drafted
today and tomorrow. I'd be comfortable with taking him. I
(01:41:27):
think Josh Simmons, the off stack of Ohio State, it
really depends on the medical on his knee that he
injured this year is a pretty devastating injury. So you
could have those options sitting there. The question is do
you want to wait and maybe just see those off
of the tackles fly off the board and get stuck.
Speaker 1 (01:41:42):
And another position of need that the Texans a lot
of people have them getting mocked is wide receiver. How
do you have the top of your wide receiver board ordered?
And who do you think that the Texans could get
around twenty five.
Speaker 23 (01:41:57):
I have Ted McMillan, the receiver from Arizona, just after
Travis Hunter from Colorado. I think Ken McMillan is going
to go in the top twelve. I'd be surprised if
he falls past the Dallas Cowboys. I think for the
Texans at twenty five, you're looking at Anika Buka, the
lade receiver from Ohio State. It's probably the safest option.
He's going to be a solid pro slot receiver. He's
(01:42:18):
not going to be a number one. Texans don't need
a number one to have Nico Collins, so I think
a GUK would be a really good choice if he's there,
or do you swing for the upside Matthew Golden out
of Texas. I have Rayton as the second round pick.
I'm not a big fan, but he did run a
four to two nine, did play with an inconsistency at
quarterback with Quin Evers. The Texas had a great college
football playoff. I think those are the first round possibilities
(01:42:39):
at receiver. If I was the Texans, I would wait.
I like DA two and that wide receiver mix just
as much as some of those late first guys.
Speaker 1 (01:42:47):
I'm curious, Yeah, you and a lot of people are
down on Matthew Golden. I guess is it just the
lack of consistent production that bothers you or what else
would it be?
Speaker 23 (01:42:58):
I think the lack of consistent productions there is now
ever led his team in receptions in college, and you
know played at Houston, so I think you wanted to
see a little bit more of that earlier in his career.
The other thing is he doesn't separate really well for
his athleticism. I want to see a main coverage if
you have that kind of speedat Lenson and that you're
getting away from these corners of slats on out on ends,
(01:43:21):
and he's not doing that. Too many contested catches for
his speed. My other question with him is I don't
think he plays the four two nine. I mean, he
got caught multiple times this season. I think he's more
of a four to four speed player. So all these
things mixed, I would rather be more comfortable with him
in round two.
Speaker 1 (01:43:36):
Shane Hallum joining us Shane P. Hallam on Twitter, Draft
Sharks Dot com As the website, Shane Shador, Sanders, everybody's
got an opinion, what's yours.
Speaker 23 (01:43:47):
I'm not there with with Shador. I have him. He's
thirty ninth on my big board. I haven't ready this
his second round pick. Well, I think he's I think
he's good, But it feels to me like this quarterback
class outside of cam Ward is a lot of reaching
for what you hope can become a franchise quarterback instead
of a player with the traits of a franchise quarterback.
(01:44:07):
I think Sanders is really smart between the ears. He
knows how to manipulate safeties. He does a lot of
advanced things well, but his arm is average. And in
today's NFL, where the defenses like the two deep safeties,
you have to have a cover two beater on the sideline,
you have to have a cover three beater, and I
don't think he has the arm to do that at
the NFL level. And a lot of the just tendencies
in the pocket, bad habits of drifting backwards when there's
(01:44:31):
no one wide open. I think there's a lot of
development that he needs. So if he goes in the
top ten, I think it's a mistake. Now he goes
late first or we've seen the mocks re's falling in
the second round, then I'm all for it. Draft him
development sit them behind someone. But I don't think he's
ready to be an NFL quarterback yet.
Speaker 1 (01:44:48):
So as you know, teams can find some good value
in the third and fourth rounds. I see you have
Jalen Royals of the Utah State mock to the Texans
in the third round.
Speaker 2 (01:44:58):
Who are some guys? Can you just tell us some
more about him?
Speaker 1 (01:45:01):
And then some other guys you think they could provide
some value in those middle rounds.
Speaker 23 (01:45:06):
I'm a really big fan of Jalen Royals out of
Utah State. I think he'll be a solid third round pick.
Turns into a running back with the ball in his hands.
Their whole offense was get the ball to him and
let him do great things. I question his route running,
and then as a Senior Bowl he tore it up.
He beat first round corners in one on one route.
So I think Runs could be a Rashi Rice type
(01:45:26):
of player that you're using in different ways and can
have a lot of production. I really like some of
the tight ends too on Day two, which the Texans
could potentially look at Terence Ferguson. The tight end of
Oregon is really interesting. He's explosive. Organ's offense doesn't really
utilize the tight end. He was so good in that
(01:45:46):
old stick Jason Whitten route that they had to use
him and force some passes that way. So I like him,
and I'll drop one more name. Charles grant yat the
tackle out of William and Mary is getting a lot
of push up the board. I played almost surely his
own blocking scheme of William and Mary, added some weight.
Looks really good in this offseason. So for a small
school player, I think he someone's going to go in
(01:46:08):
the top one hundred and be a difference maker on
the opposite line through Day one.
Speaker 1 (01:46:11):
Shane, Tonight will be the biggest night for at least
the casual fan to watch the draft, not so much
to the Fridday and Saturday. So tonight, as we're sitting back,
having a couple of cold pops and joining this thing,
give me one or two names that you're going to
hear in the first round to night. But you're thinking
this is a mistake. Now maybe not well, maybe you'll
be in the NFL, but way overrated. Way shouldn't be
(01:46:36):
a Day one pick. And ultimately remember if you if
you goof up on first round picks, it does cost you.
Are there one or two names on that list, or
maybe you don't have one that you go tonight? Better
not hear those names. Those teams are gonna be in trouble.
Speaker 23 (01:46:48):
Yeah, well I always have a couple of those things,
so but don't worry U. Michael Williams, the edge rusher
out of Georgia. It looks like he's probably gonna go
in the top twelve. I think it's a big mistake.
Never had production. There was a five star recruit, long, big, rangy, explosive,
but he gets pushed out of so many plays with
just bad technique. Often want to get their hands on him.
(01:47:09):
He's down for the count. I think he's a rotational
pass rusher. At bet you're taking him that high. I
think it is a big mistake. And I'll mention another
name that may pop into the first round. We'll see
Trey Amos, who's a corner out of Mississippi. I have
rated more as a third round pick. He's big, he's physical,
he can jam up a line, but he's so stiff
(01:47:31):
turning and running. I think it's day's NFL. Of some
of these smaller receivers, he's going to really struggle if
he doesn't get them at the line. I think that
would end up being a mistake if he's drafted in
the first round.
Speaker 1 (01:47:41):
Shanehallum Draft sharks dot Com. Thanks for the time, Shane.

Yes or no, no, natural no Major League eight men.

Oh Outsiders in School Back we Are, We Are, Marshall. No,
the most recent sports movie. I watched the UTIP basketball
team on Disney Plus and.
Speaker 2 (01:51:19):

Speaker 1 (01:51:24):
Were they were Texas Western at the time. That Miracle,
the movie about the hockey team. No, okay, Glory Road,

Speaker 2 (01:51:35):
Is that the one she Hoosiers? Have you seen Hoosiers?
Who's the Hoosiers? That sounds familiar? No, okay, I mean
you haven't seen it. And I'm a movie guy.
Speaker 1 (01:51:47):
This is actually like, yeah, it's funny because I this
is a category that I shouldn't be really getting involved with,
because I not that I'm anti movie. I just don't
see a lot of them. Yes there is, Yeah, any violence,
you're out, It's okay. Yeah, I your prerogative, Bobby Brown,
thank you very much. I saw the Whitney Houston movie.
Speaker 2 (01:52:04):

up dead in the bathroom.
Speaker 1 (01:52:09):
Didn't should have they should they should have What are
you gross?
Speaker 2 (01:52:15):
They killed her?
Speaker 6 (01:52:16):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:52:16):
She got killed too? She spoiler, dude, she was on.
She was doing cracking cocaine like crazy guy.
Speaker 1 (01:52:23):
Though she was he was she blameing Bobby Brown, aren't
you no? I think he's going conspiracy on us too?
Why would okay, hold on? Why was she killed? Was
she trying to get her masters too?
Speaker 20 (01:52:35):
No, because she wanted to get out of the contract
with that head.
Speaker 2 (01:52:42):
In the bodyguard.
Speaker 1 (01:52:43):
By the way, I cried like, oh, really, Clive Davis
had Whitney Houston killed?
Speaker 2 (01:52:49):
That hadn't heard that? I don't be I don't believe
that to be true.
Speaker 20 (01:52:51):
Okay, look at the autopsy. She has bruise marks in
the bathtub and that backwater were still warm.
Speaker 1 (01:52:58):
Hd jmk JK. Have our phone president the movie? Yeah,

Speaker 2 (01:53:14):
I say Denzel Washington? Denzel? I thought you're gonna say
Martin Lawrence.
Speaker 1 (01:53:17):
Uh, it's Daniel day Lewis for me number one, and
then I'll put Denzel to what's up? I like Denzel.
I love Kevin cost Dustin Hoffman for me is very
high on my list. The correct Dame Harrison Ford.
Speaker 2 (01:53:29):
The correct answer is Daniel da Lewis. Really, what's his
most movie?
Speaker 1 (01:53:33):
He's got three Best Actor Awards about Robert Downey went
for There Will Be Blood. No, sorry, there will be Blood.
He won for Lincoln and he went from my left foot.
Speaker 2 (01:53:42):
How many of those have I've seen? I'm gonna say
you've seen Lincoln like you haven't?
Speaker 20 (01:53:49):
Six maybe back. I don't know, is either Daniel da
Lewis He only has this.
Speaker 1 (01:53:53):
Yeah, he's got the most Best Actor Oscar Awards. That's
all you need to know. Can you name one Chevy
Chase movie?
Speaker 2 (01:54:03):
Nope?
Speaker 3 (01:54:03):
All right?
Speaker 1 (01:54:04):
Phantom Thread was great, There Will Be Blood was great,
Lincoln was great.
Speaker 2 (01:54:07):
I never saw the ballot of Jackson Rose.
Speaker 1 (01:54:09):
He was great as Bill the butcher in Gangs in
New York, The Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio vehicle. All right,
he's on the phone right now. Can he Can you
think Jonatha Caan named one Eddie Murphy movie?
Speaker 2 (01:54:18):
Not named?
Speaker 1 (01:54:21):
Said Harlem Knights in Life. That's too, that's too. Can
you name one more? I think he knows that. Has
he seen any of the Beverly Hills Cops movies?
Speaker 2 (01:54:26):
I don't know, he's on the phone. Uh. Last of
the Mohicans. Daniel day Lewis was in You never saw
Last of the Mohicans. It's a great movie. What was
the question?
Speaker 1 (01:54:39):
Can you name it? Eddie Murphy? Movie not named Harlem Knights?
And I see Alex Bregman trotting by the way, Is
he not?
Speaker 2 (01:54:46):
Is he not? Is Eddie Murphy and Shrek? Or that's
that he's Donkey. That's a good pull on your part.
Speaker 1 (01:54:54):
They're putting on the mascotthead to celebrate home runs in Boston.
Speaker 2 (01:54:57):
Now, is that Bragman hit the home run?
Speaker 3 (01:54:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:54:59):
He just hit a home Oh my god. He's in
a five game hitting streak. Alex Pragman four thirty eight.
During this five game hitting streak with the home run
and the and the uh and the reds ridiculous, he
just crushed one. Over the over the monster, over the monster.
He's like, man, this is the best thing I ever
(01:55:20):
did in my entire life. He's making forty literally resurrected
his career in one month.
Speaker 2 (01:55:25):
It's crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:55:26):
He's living in ball He's playing for the Boston Red Sox,
making forty million dollars in crushing homers and apparently uh
with with with child number two. Congratulations to him and Reagan.
See it's that dad strengths Part two came back the
first time he knocked up his lady that he was
starting to knock home runs.
Speaker 2 (01:55:44):
Yeah, it was way over the green monks.
Speaker 20 (01:55:45):
Speaking of baseball, and before you get demand that, you
guys forgot Sandlot.
Speaker 2 (01:55:50):
Never saw it? Oh baseball?
Speaker 1 (01:55:51):
Yeah, you never saw baseball. Sandlot is the greatest baseball
movie of all time. That's not true. Bull Durham's D Man,
you never saw it, So how could you say, because
I saw Man, it's the best d Man.
Speaker 2 (01:56:02):
Before we get to emy Doka, Hello.
Speaker 9 (01:56:04):
D Man, guys. I love you, guys.
Speaker 4 (01:56:07):
I mean I listened to every basketball game, every base.
Speaker 2 (01:56:10):
Well, thank you. All right, get to the point. We
gotta go ten.
Speaker 8 (01:56:14):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:56:14):
Your movie selections suck one.
Speaker 9 (01:56:17):
Scarface should be number two.
Speaker 2 (01:56:19):
Josie Will's big lip, big Lebobski. That's a great movie.
Speaker 9 (01:56:25):
Reservoir dogs, I love you.
Speaker 1 (01:56:26):
We're not naming the greatest movies of all time list
right now. We're we're naming old movies and we're just
throwing the raindows.
Speaker 2 (01:56:31):
Hang up on, D Man.
Speaker 1 (01:56:32):
We gotta go d Man, I got her all, my man,
thank you so much. Hold on, we we do love
d Man, We love you. We're just short time coach.
We gotta get coach. Doc is up next Tommy Show
with Ross Rockets Warriors title the Game of Piece to
discuss last night's impressive victory over Golden State. Let's say
(01:56:54):
hi to the head coach of your Houston Rockets one
four over the Golden State Warriors. Ema A Doka with
madn and Ross Coach, thanks for joining us, Congratulations on
the game. Can I ask you because look our audience
and basketball fans, we despise Draymond Green with all of
our heart and soul. E may and it feels like
(01:57:15):
you guys will do some John occasional on the court.
What are those conversations like? Can you say or that
they have to be kind of like PG related and
can't really bring him up on the air.
Speaker 3 (01:57:25):
No, it's nothing crazy.
Speaker 8 (01:57:27):
We have a history of obviously playing coaching against him
and we work together with USA Basketball, so I know
him very well and more just John back and forth,
nothing crazy. We have respect for each other. Like I said,
the relationship and so I know who he is. He
knows who I am obviously played in the finals before,
and so just a little back and forth, friendly bathro
(01:57:48):
nothing crazy.
Speaker 2 (01:57:49):
That's too bad. I'd like you to punch him, but
that's a different issue for a different time.
Speaker 3 (01:57:52):
Coach. It may look like it.
Speaker 8 (01:57:54):
Because of how he or I are talking to each other,
but it's nothing crazy, all right.
Speaker 1 (01:58:01):
You have more restraint than I do, honestly. Congratulations of
the wind. Last week Jalen Green's coming out party, he
mentioned postgame that Game one felt really big. The arena
looked bigger, the court looked bigger, the rim. That's not
uncommon for guys. You've coached a lot of guys that
have made this subtle adjustment between Game one and two.
So for those things come out of his mouth and
(01:58:22):
the way he played couldn't have been a huge surprise
to you.
Speaker 8 (01:58:26):
No, I think you know it's different for everybody, and
we can talk about it, prepare for it, and you know,
have all that time during the week for guys to
share their experiences, but you have to go through it
for the first time, and you know, it's basketball at
the end of the day. But everything is amplified and
magnified and the physicality goes up and everything becomes more
(01:58:47):
more important every possession, and so takes guys some time,
you know, whether it's a quarter, a game, whatever it is.
And once we saw some things on film and saw
the looks we had and understood how they were guarding us,
we had a good feeling that he'd have a bounce
back in our team with as well.
Speaker 1 (01:59:02):
Was there anything to your eye now that you've had
a chance to look the game film that they did.
Was it more in the adjustments on your end do
you think are on their end? And obviously when you
lose Butler like they did in the course of the contests,
it removed their rotation around. Was there any other massive
changes that you could tell our audience that you saw
between the two games.
Speaker 8 (01:59:22):
Well, first of all, you know, when you make shots,
that helps. And so we defended at the same level.
You know, scored ninety five in the first game of
ninety four in this game and early in the eighties
and before they had some late buckets. But so we
defended at the same level, and we knew if our
offense woke up and came to life a little bit
and we'd be in good shape. And so for us,
it was about it more particular with our spacing, not
(01:59:45):
getting this stagnant trying to hunt matchups and just get
back to normally what we do, which is taking advantage
of up the inside or alpying different spots Jalen and
our whole team, you know, doing it.
Speaker 3 (01:59:54):
As a unit.
Speaker 8 (01:59:55):
And I think we got bogged down trying to pick
on matchups and got a little stagnant, which it benefits them.
They're they're they're geared toward hiding guys on defense and
loading up and all those things. And when you're looking
at a bunch of bodies and the way they create turnovers,
I think, uh, that benefited them. So we got back
to more of our norm Uh, tried to get stops
and get out and run the execute and transition and
(02:00:16):
then take care of the ball.
Speaker 3 (02:00:16):
And that was the formula.
Speaker 1 (02:00:18):
Took care of the basketball. Uh, email your squad hit
free throws. I thought of men Thompson was really on
the cusp of having a big night offensively until the
foul trouble came into play.
Speaker 2 (02:00:28):
Did you feel the game.
Speaker 1 (02:00:29):
Was officiated a little differently from games one to two
or was it pretty close in your mind?
Speaker 3 (02:00:35):
No, it was pretty close. I think They've let us
both be physical.
Speaker 8 (02:00:39):
You know, it happens in the playoffs anyway, and we
are two of the better defensive teams that played with physicality,
and so nothing different there. You just have to adjust
the times if you have the foul trouble. And you
know we went with we went with them in with two,
run them back first quarter Dylan as well, and they
you know, picked up their third and so we can
go to some other lineups are bringing Aaron Holliday and
(02:00:59):
some guys that we did, or go to some zone
to protect guys.
Speaker 3 (02:01:02):
And so I think it was.
Speaker 8 (02:01:03):
Officiated pretty similarly both both games. Like I said, just
have to adjust when you have the foul trouble and
not get the super fouls off ball.
Speaker 1 (02:01:12):
How would you assess two games into what you've seen
from men and Thompson and you talked about maybe, you know,
playoff experience and lacking it seems almost like in a
reverse way, you'd have to prevent Timson.
Speaker 2 (02:01:23):
For getting too excited for playoff basketball.
Speaker 3 (02:01:26):
Yeah, he's been good.
Speaker 8 (02:01:27):
I mean he's he obviously can be much better, and
the fouls are a big part of it. He's going
to impact the game as long as he's out there
on the court on defense that offense, and just like
I said, I have to be smart with the reach
and foul when you have one already in the first quarter,
the one he got on the rebound, and then he'll
get going offensively. He's missed some easy shots around the basket,
obviously in Game one, miss a few dunk putbacks. But
(02:01:49):
the way he impacts the game is not just by scoring. Obviously,
he's doing a great job on Curry initially hounding him
and all the other intangibles that he brings to the table.
So that'll in time. You know, the ups and downs
of a young guy being in the playoffs for the
first time show at times, but he's not relying on
scoring only to impact the game.
Speaker 2 (02:02:09):
Rockets Heads coach Ema A.
Speaker 1 (02:02:10):
Dooka was here on Sports Talk seven ninety and back
to Jalen Green quick quickly. What were your conversations like
him with him in between Game one and their performance
in Game two.
Speaker 8 (02:02:24):
Well, the message was simple, like it was going into
the series, is be aggressive, stay confident, and don't second
guess take the shots that are there. They're guarding a
certain way, and he like he kind of kind of
saw that we all saw it on film obviously and
went over as a team.
Speaker 3 (02:02:38):
I think be im patient is a big thing.
Speaker 8 (02:02:41):
You know, you get to you get the matchup that
you like, whether it's a big or small, and you
kind of rush into the crowd and they're all loaded up.
You got to step back, survey a little bit and
let everybody get to their spacing and then attack from there.
And he did a great job of that right from
the start. And so that that the spacing, everybody being
deliberate about, you know, giving him the room to work,
but also him taking the threes at which he took
(02:03:02):
eighteen and when they go under or they're trying to
protect him from driving, you have to take those shots
to loosen them up.
Speaker 3 (02:03:08):
And he did that obviously, making eight of eighteen.
Speaker 1 (02:03:11):
How bad did you need those tarres and three pointers
of fall? I know he struggled in game one from
perimeter and gave guy. He gave you a couple of
early ones in the game two, which are obviously made
a big difference. And how about this coach, did you
know why to wire wins don't happen very often in
the NBA? You got one last night in a playoff game.
Speaker 8 (02:03:27):
Yeah, it was big for Tari I think for us
in general. He hadn't been shooting it well lately, but
he had wide open looks in game one, going over four,
and so when you only make six for twenty nine
as a team or whatever it is, you need anybody
to knock him down. And he you know, he took
the on this song and did that. He had two
really good days of work just watching him shoot and
watching his preparation. He was basically on fire in the
(02:03:51):
shoot arounds and practices, and so I told him that,
I said, how good a shot looks, and stay confident
and be aggressive and came out and made though, so
great carryover from what he did in practice. No lack
of confidence there, understanding the shots he's going to get
as long as we get to our spacing and they
make the right reads. And so that's a big thing
there obviously. With the Wire to Wire, Yeah, we came
(02:04:11):
out and did the same thing we did in game one,
which was jumped out to early leads. Different those we
maintained it and extended at times, and so yeah, when.
Speaker 3 (02:04:19):
You take care of the ball, get shots.
Speaker 8 (02:04:21):
Although we only had eleven offensive rebounds of the post
to twenty two in the first game. Give yourself those
second chance opportunities you can maintain those leads and so
doing a great job overall on both both sides of
the ball.
Speaker 1 (02:04:32):
You've been able to win a couple of challenges late,
including one yesterday in the playoff game. Have you and
your staff, the guys that you trust with the video replay,
even taking in a step further to say, hey, it's
a playoff game. If we're going to challenge something early,
we better Dan be ready to win this one, because
you know these things are so valuable and you want
to certainly have one in your back pocket, maybe in
the third or fourth quarter of a game.
Speaker 8 (02:04:55):
Yeah, it is crucial to get those early ones if
you're going to challenge knowing you may.
Speaker 3 (02:05:01):
Need it down the line.
Speaker 8 (02:05:02):
You know, maybe in the regular season you wouldn't challenge
something that you know that might be marginal. But I
think we got a good grasp of what they call
and obviously looking at the play before the play to
determine if it was a foul or something that initiated
that contact and so, but at the same time, a
few games ago, I would have thought the charge was
a charge, and then I saw that one myself, and yeah,
(02:05:24):
and so you know, it's always a little bit of judgment,
and based on camera angles is a big part of it,
and so our guys got twelve different angles behind the bench.
Speaker 3 (02:05:31):
They have to look quick and see everything and try.
Speaker 8 (02:05:33):
To judge if it's something precurring precluding the play. But
I think we do a great job overall, and like
I said, every possession is important, so we'll be more
resisent to take the challenge early.
Speaker 1 (02:05:47):
Last question, May You've got a lot of young men.
They now have two playoff games under their belt, but
they're about to hit the road for the very first
time in a playoff game. How much of the message
changes from when you maybe talk to them earlier this
week when they were about to play their first place
season game.
Speaker 3 (02:06:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (02:06:02):
I mean, the whole court advantage is great, but we
have to go on the road to win games, regardless
of the series. And so for us, it's more of
the same that we did to start this season. Struggled
last year, you know, on the road, and our message
to our guys this year was come out and be
a different team on.
Speaker 3 (02:06:17):
The road, and we've done that right from the get go.
So at the end of the day, like.
Speaker 8 (02:06:20):
I always say, it's just basketball, and you keep it
simple and you know, once the ball is tossed up,
it's it's whatever. Take the crowd out of it, take
emotion out of it, and just play a player game.
And so that'll be no different going to San Francisco.
Speaker 1 (02:06:33):
Thank you for the visit, my friends. Congratulations, I'll see
you tomorrow. We'll get up to San Francisco. And best
of luck this weekend in Golden State.
Speaker 3 (02:06:40):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (02:06:40):
Thank you. Amy and Doka with us year on Sports
Talk seven ninety. Game three will be Saturday night at
seven point thirty, and that is a national TV game,
so there'll be no Space City broadcast, which means if
you want to purely subjective broadcast, you listen to me
over on KTRH wonderful. And then Monday's game will be
(02:07:01):
at nine o'clock and that will be Park k t
R each and Park KB ME and they'll have.
Speaker 2 (02:07:05):
That Space City broadcast too.
Speaker 1 (02:07:06):
Okay, I didn't watch in the stand band Gundhy. It
felt like to me, he's pretty good. I like him
right next to him in Gundy. Yeah, I think it
does a good job, smart, funny, I like him better.
I like him better than REGGI Miller. Honestly, me too.
Reggie's improved a lot. Reggie went from one of the
worst to like. At least he's decent to me.
Speaker 2 (02:07:25):
Yeah, Kevin Harlan, that's the cherry j Bill. It is
going to call the game on ABC on Saturday Night.
Speaker 1 (02:07:32):
So I don't know, I don't. I think he's working
maybe with Mark Jones. I don't who's working with. But
it's a j billist game. Ou Es get you the
source out. Yeah, he's he's a big time cliche machine.
Speaker 2 (02:07:47):
I'll leave it at that.
Speaker 8 (02:07:49):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:07:49):
One fourteen is the time. It is the Matt Thomas
showld Ross roddessats today's edition to believe or not coming
up in just thirty five minutes from now?
Speaker 2 (02:07:56):
Is that happening today? It is, it's not. It's at
one fifty. I thought we were doing Longhorn Legends.
Speaker 1 (02:08:01):
Steve McMichael, by the way, Yeah, people were getting mad
at you for not knowing you. With the University, I
went there from seventy five to eighty or something like that.
That's a long I wasn't born so but you got
a rich, vivid history of universe Texas.
Speaker 2 (02:08:13):
You're not.
Speaker 1 (02:08:13):
I mean, yeah, I guess really, I don't know who's
on the team in seventy or sixty three when they're
winning this coach, Oh, Darryl eighty could have been Acres, Yeah,
I bet it was. It started with Darrel okay, okay,
Royal probably started and then maybe it was Acres after that,
Freddy Acres. They could have won it all in eighty five.
(02:08:35):
What do they play? Was it Georgia in the Castle?
Speaker 2 (02:08:39):
They didn't?
Speaker 1 (02:08:40):
Was Herschel Walker on the eighty five Georgia team or
was that not? That might have been a little bit
past past that. I think I think I think Herschel
was at eighty two. Sure, honestly, all right, what fifteen
is our time? It is the Matt Thomas show.
Speaker 2 (02:08:51):
Ross.
Speaker 1 (02:08:52):
We've got the replay of Brian McTaggart. If you missed
it earlier today, shame I think you mess up with
Ryana McTaggart on the show.
Speaker 2 (02:08:59):
Yeah. Fred Acre started at seven in seventy seven to
eighty six. Then it was David mccoilliams.
Speaker 22 (02:09:06):
Oh, then it was John mcavic who macamick was fine
and mac Brown and then you get back to prominence
Speck at the University of Texas and Sally the Baked
Cobbler with Strong.
Speaker 2 (02:09:18):
Charlie Strong done a wonderful job. He's building young men
in this program. And we are back at Texas.
Speaker 1 (02:09:22):
We had a bunch of criminals on the program from
Mac Brown's era when he stopped caring and then so
Charlie Strong had to kick everybody off the team.
Speaker 2 (02:09:29):
Are you still computers and boats? We're intimidating witnesses.
Speaker 1 (02:09:33):
Why do we have guys calling the jail and there
intimidating witnesses? All right, well, I think we're done getting
the damn rabbit hole again. Alex Pregnant doing his part. Yeah,
he had a ball over the left of the monster.
Other than that, they ain't done. Squat m get it
what Garrett Crochet's.
Speaker 2 (02:09:53):
Getting touched up?
Speaker 1 (02:09:54):
Come on, man, come on now, crafty left hander. He
got a back in the game. As a matter of fact.
Oh really, yeah, he fell off the mound.
Speaker 2 (02:10:02):
Oh, Alex Bregman's getting put outs.
Speaker 1 (02:10:04):
That's good, and that had a great month defensively but
offensively hasn't.
Speaker 2 (02:10:07):
No. I think you said five airs so far? It really? Yeah?
I saw him falling on his face that one time.
Speaker 1 (02:10:13):
Matter of fact, I don't if you do this real quick,
who has a better fielding percentage?
Speaker 3 (02:10:16):
Right now?
Speaker 2 (02:10:16):
I can't do any Oh, your internet's not working.
Speaker 1 (02:10:19):
Some started my computer. I don't know e sect paradis.
I think maybe I've been fired. Maybe you got a
firewall on you. No, I didn't touch anything. Isn't it working?
Maybe maybe we're outsourcing your job. That could be very
well done, Ai Ross, I've heard worse. Hey, you know
what the you know the new AI that I find
is so funny and actually I may a Doka was
(02:10:40):
part of it.
Speaker 4 (02:10:41):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:10:42):
Jennifer Lawrence you know that. You know she has a
television show, Jennifer Lawrence. How do you feel about Jennifer Lawrence. No, no, no, no.
Jennifer Hudson, Oh okay, Jennifer Hudson has as she is
nice and the herbs producers and her support staff when
they bring a guest out, they walk down a hall.
Speaker 2 (02:11:05):
And then they give him like a little song or something.
It's it's rass viner Reale.
Speaker 1 (02:11:09):
He's here with Jennifer talking sports, talking Live, talking about
his main Let's get some They had a very funny tweet.
It's like This is the only clips I've ever seen
of this show. When do the interview, I've never seen exactly.
I've never seen a second of the show except for
the hallway thing.
Speaker 2 (02:11:25):
But the funny part was the hallway thing.
Speaker 1 (02:11:27):
There is an e may aka AI one okay, and
I saw it and I didn't want to tell about it.
But if we found out about it, it's like, what
is this? You know, today's kids don't appreciate the a
like like us youngsters do. Now what I'm all, I'm
team ay I.
Speaker 2 (02:11:47):
You are.
Speaker 1 (02:11:47):
You have to be very you can be. You could
be replaced by Ai. Matt, literally, you could. They got
the voice. Well, he has had his voice told voice. Yeah,
I'm talking about because I don't want to want to
make it public. That's nothing bad, but it's definitely I've
had my voice aied, which I didn't think was possible. Yeah,
because I don't think I've got an impressionable voice. Do
(02:12:09):
you think I do? What do you mean like AI
does it? It's it's but I mean computer does it
mean we do mac Brown? That's easy. Yeah, that's different.
It's a computer, Matt. It just takes the frequencies. It's
not like it's doing an impression machine, I know, but
it still feels like it's my voice. Would be hard
to impersonate, but the computer says, no, it's fine. So yeah,
(02:12:29):
I've heard myself in AI and it sounds like I
have a cold, but it definitely sounds more me than
not me.
Speaker 2 (02:12:37):
I'm gonna make AI, matt when you leave.
Speaker 1 (02:12:40):
We just have Sabrina Callegehaw. Remember when Sobrina was on.
I can't do anything right now.
Speaker 2 (02:12:47):
Anyway.
Speaker 1 (02:12:47):
I think it's your computer. I restarted it just now. Yeah,
I think I can't connect to any of our wifis well.
So no believe it or not today unless you want
to write one iday trouble take it in Oh, I
can't even sit in a trouble ticket.
Speaker 2 (02:13:02):
That's terrible.
Speaker 1 (02:13:03):
All right, So let's use this real quick before we
get to Brian McTaggart. Uh, without naming names, Texans go
old line first round. I will say yes, if Matthew
Golden's there at twenty five, you take him.
Speaker 2 (02:13:20):
Because here's the thing.
Speaker 1 (02:13:22):
Even with all the Barrios's and the Kirks and everybody
else that's come through here, I don't think the Texans
are particularly enthralled with the wide receiver room. I don't
think they should go wide receiver, but I'm just saying
that if you think this is a guy that can
really be a true number two receiver opposite Nicocollins, do
(02:13:45):
you go, you know what, I go grab that lineman
early second round and that I love this kid. This
is a guy that's got great speed. He obviously became
a huge part of the Texas offense last year. He
had down the stretch, but the production all season long
wasn't great. We talked about that with Shane Hallim as well.
And perhaps the forty time which is four point twenty nine,
(02:14:06):
which is amazing, not as fast as the tape, right
they talk about guys who don't run four. They can
run a four to four, but look faster on tape.
Maybe he looks slower on tape is the concern. So
it would be to depend a lot of people like
a Mecca Buca, the Ohio State wide receiver as well.
I think I would still like to them to go
(02:14:28):
offensive line. And I am curious the Ohio State tackle
Josh Simmons to where if his medicals are clear, I mean,
if he didn't get hurt last year. People think he
could have been a top top five, yeah, top five,
top ten, So that would be interesting. I like, I
think you can get value of guys that are injured
that fall down draft boards that will still be fine
(02:14:50):
in their NFL careers. And the thing about injuries is
there's a difference in having an injury, yeah, and having
serious injuries that playing a guy's career like his, if
his legs are ten years older than he really is
because of all the ailments.
Speaker 2 (02:15:03):
That's one thing.
Speaker 1 (02:15:04):
Like if you're taking a basketball player who's always got
knee issues and leg issues, there's gonna be a wear
and tear on that body. Where if this what's the
kid's name of an Ohio State than the Josh Simmons,
does he have an issue? Is even i ate or
is this a one time thing? It was a pretty
severe well, it was a pell, Yeah, torn pateeller tendon.
So that's pretty pretty severe. To ask you this, what's
the recovery rate of that in twenty two eighty five
(02:15:25):
for a.
Speaker 2 (02:15:28):
Probably pretty high.
Speaker 1 (02:15:30):
But then I don't know how it affects necessarily tackles
and these are obviously very important to tackles absolutely quickness, Yeah,
but you're also it's not like he's a wide I
may be more concerned about a wide receiver or or
somebody in the secondary.
Speaker 2 (02:15:44):
With the PT Teller injury, it.
Speaker 1 (02:15:46):
Just feels like to me, the number one thing that
Nick's got to get right is he's got to get
an offensive lineman in this draft, whether it be today
or tomorrow, that you can plug and play right out
of the jump.
Speaker 3 (02:15:57):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (02:15:58):
That'd be nice, regardless of what the kid did in college,
regardless of where you place him in the draft. If
this is another team, another Texans team that fails to
address the offensive line after all the picks of the
last few years, people are gonna question who's doing the scouting,
who's doing the evaluating in the Texans office. Yeah, so
far the record at offensive line is in spotty. Titus
(02:16:22):
Howard's been just okay. Yeah, he wasn't drafted by this regime.
But they I mean, I'm just talking about in the
last seven or eight years, all the top picks, the
scrugs of the.
Speaker 2 (02:16:32):
World and whatnot.
Speaker 1 (02:16:33):
I mean, this is a team that has not avoided
going after offensive line. Yeah, if we got to go
for a great fine in the draft, we have to
go back to Dwayne Brown.
Speaker 2 (02:16:41):
Maybe he was like twenty six. I think the Texans
took him years ago.
Speaker 1 (02:16:47):
Chris Myers, but that was like yeah, yeah, I mean,
if you're talking about impactful linement, it's gotta be Dwayne Brown.
Speaker 2 (02:16:53):
That's right, all right.
Speaker 1 (02:16:54):
Brian mctagger was a guest of the show and you'll
hear from him next one twenty eight Sports Talk seven
ninety an opportunity most Thursdays, I got a chance for
you guys in a one o'clock audience to hear some
of the conversation. We talked to the Astro beat Ryder
about what has been so good as of late as
the Astro has finished off the sweep with the Toronto
Blue Jays winning yesterday, and it was really about how
(02:17:14):
good not only the starting pitching has been, but the
relief corps as well.
Speaker 11 (02:17:22):
Yeah, they were both great. I mean I think the
relievers went what seven and the third scoreless innings, and
that was basically the three back end guys, King of
Brau and hater Fort Whitley did have an out again there,
But it all starts with starting pitching, and all three
of the guys that started in that series were great,
beginning with you know, Hudder Brown being you know, the
clear cut ace of this team. Ronel Blanco with his
(02:17:45):
best start of the season by far, and then Ryan
Gusto comes out and shows you why they sort of
decided to keep him on this team out of camp
after he was set down it initially and continues to battle.
So and you know, I think keep getting this kind
of pitch, and I think they're gonna be all right.
Speaker 2 (02:18:01):
I mean, I think I've said.
Speaker 11 (02:18:02):
On here and I mean we all know that they're
the guys that are struggling going to come around eventually.
It looks like Christian Walker's there. Ds had a couple
of hits yesterday. He's got a long way to go.
Speaker 3 (02:18:13):
You know.
Speaker 11 (02:18:13):
Alvarez is slowly his numbers are slowly climbing up. So hey,
compared to last year when they were seven and seventeen
at this point, thirteen and eleven looks really good.
Speaker 2 (02:18:23):
It does.
Speaker 1 (02:18:24):
And you know what, and I know that Joe A
Spot I mentioned us a couple of days ago, there
is a thought of a six man rotation coming up.
Because of the lack of off days in the month
of May. You're gonna have a really good arm not
available to you because you're going to have to reduce
your bullpen by a spot, and ultimately you've got to
make a decision about, well, how you're going to treat
that six man rotation.
Speaker 2 (02:18:43):
These are good problems they have right now. Yeah, you
can never have too much fifteen.
Speaker 6 (02:18:48):
So if you've got a guy you's see, a good
guy and you got to set them to the.
Speaker 11 (02:18:51):
A that doesn't deserve it, then yeah, that's a good
problem to have with you the astros. I mean, you know,
maybe a guy like Logan Van Why or rookie who
you know they're excited about and they feel as the future.
I mean, he's a guy I think certainly could you know,
bounce between you know, Triple A and the big leagues
this year, So you.
Speaker 2 (02:19:08):
Know that's the guy to look at. But yeah, Lance
pitches h you know, this weekend in.
Speaker 11 (02:19:12):
Corporates Christie and then maybe he goes back soon after that.
But you know, I think a sixth man rotation makes sense.
They've done that at different points the last couple of years.
I know Dana Brown is a big fan of that,
and you know, it totally makes sense, especially during a
stretch where you don't have a day off and they
have one of.
Speaker 3 (02:19:29):
Those in May.
Speaker 11 (02:19:29):
I think May like ninth through the twenty fifth, pretty
much the middle chunk of May there, which includes a
road trip to Tampa Bay and Texas, so they get
lanced back by then and go to a six man rotation.
Speaker 2 (02:19:40):
That would come right at the right time.
Speaker 1 (02:19:41):
Christian Walker got a day off earlier this week, and boy,
that has paid dividends for him. And it's funny because
sometimes veterans don't want to have to have that day
off to say making work out their issues by playing
every single day. But whatever that was sitting there observing,
just kind of mentally watching the sport as compared to
physically being out there, he has been a difference.
Speaker 2 (02:19:59):
Maker of the last couple nights.
Speaker 11 (02:20:02):
Yeah, you know, this guy, I'm really impressed by his
approach because when he was moved down to the lineup
a few days ago and he's like, totally get it.
You know, I'm not getting it done in the four spot,
you know, let someone else go in there and get
those at bats. And then when he got the day off,
he's like, yeah, you know understand. And you know what
he said last night was he thought that the day
off give him a chance, you know, to get away
(02:20:23):
from everything. I think his quote was he didn't have
the pressure of figuring out to come to the ballpark
and try to get a couple of hits that night,
and he made a couple of adjustments the following day
just to try to go back to some basics, not
tinker too much on the batter's box, and you know,
comes out and gets three hits and two more right
off the bat just to be including a homer. So yeah,
(02:20:45):
science he's coming around for sure. And I mean, you know,
a breather when you just you don't see your name
in the lineup and say, you know what, I'm just
gonna sit in the dug out and clear my head
and watch.
Speaker 2 (02:20:55):
Things like this work.
Speaker 11 (02:20:56):
I mean they we've seen it work for a couple
of players last year, you know. I think Bragman had
a breather and came back and played pretty well. So
managers give these guys the things for a reason. But
nice to see him get going after I know that
had to be a tough start, especially with a new team,
where you come in, pressure's on you sign all you know,
this money and you got this contract and you're not
(02:21:16):
living up to it. So there's probably he's probably putting
a lot of pressure on himself as well.
Speaker 1 (02:21:21):
Yeah, and somebody who benefited from a breather last year,
was it Theiner. I think he got like a bad
hit him on the hand or something, and he missed
a couple of days and he came back and his
back kind of woke up. Three game hit street for him.
So he's shown some signs of life. But how do
you think things are gonna be handled going forward free Ier.
Speaker 11 (02:21:41):
Yeah, I mean, I think they're gona keep running him
out there too, you know, hope, you know, hopefully for
their sake. This is the start of him, you know,
coming around a little bit. I mean, he's you know,
he's he's going to be an aggressive hitter at the plate.
Pitchers are going to try to exploit that. But you know,
we've saw in the last couple of years, Uh, he
can do some.
Speaker 2 (02:21:56):
Real damage in the middle of that lineup.
Speaker 11 (02:21:58):
But you know, you know, Caratini's still a guy they
got to mix in from both sides.
Speaker 2 (02:22:02):
Of the plate.
Speaker 11 (02:22:03):
He's just one of the best pure hitters they have
on the team as far as back the ball skills.
So I don't think we're gonna see any changes in
playing time or approach or anything.
Speaker 2 (02:22:12):
They're gonna keep finding.
Speaker 11 (02:22:13):
Way to get Jiner in there when he's not catching,
and hopefully they get him going.
Speaker 1 (02:22:17):
Brian McTaggart with us here on Sports Talk seven ninety
five hits in his last two starts for Zac Desenzo.
Speaker 2 (02:22:23):
What kind of role do you think he can carve
out for this team? Well, I think he might play more.
They love him.
Speaker 11 (02:22:31):
I mean, I you know, they like Cam Smith and
you know all you know what he brings and everything,
and certainly Cam has had his moments this year. He mean,
he hasn't been as electric as he was in the spring,
which is to be expected because you're playing in the
regular season. But they really like what what Descenzo brings
to the plate, how hard he hits the ball, his
approach at the plate, excuse me, excuse me, it's pretty
(02:22:53):
pretty advanced.
Speaker 2 (02:22:54):
And I think we'll see him play more.
Speaker 11 (02:22:57):
I mean, we all know he played really sparingly there
for a while, but I think it wouldn't surprise me
if he starts to take a few of those bats
away from Cam Smith and right field a little bit.
Speaker 2 (02:23:06):
I think he's starting to force Joe has spot his hand.
Speaker 11 (02:23:09):
There's really not a spot to mix him in otherwise,
because you know you're not gonna play him and left
unless you know two days at d H.
Speaker 2 (02:23:17):
But then you know you got your down. You got
to get in there.
Speaker 11 (02:23:19):
You're not gonna play him at third base with pereties,
and you're not gonna play him at first I mean,
those are his positions. So if you're gonna get him
in the lineup more, it's gonna be probably the expense
of Cam Smith. So I think we'll see dia uh,
we'll see Zach play a little bit more right field
going forward here, you know, putting up maybe a little
bit of pressure on Cam to start swinging the bat
a little bit better as well.
Speaker 1 (02:23:41):
Isn't it crazy, Brian that it was the Cam Smith
for Rookie of the Year.
Speaker 2 (02:23:45):
Voting was already done by the.
Speaker 1 (02:23:47):
End of spring training, and now you've got your Zach
Decenzo fan club growing saying we got to find a
spot for him.
Speaker 2 (02:23:54):
This is sound.
Speaker 1 (02:23:56):
The the wins of Major League Baseball go during the
course of the year, and I think Cam's looking more
and more comfortable in right field.
Speaker 2 (02:24:02):
I don't think he's embarrassed himself.
Speaker 1 (02:24:04):
So far, there have been some plays that you know,
it looks like he's he's a professional athlete. But if
descenzos back continues to you know, be a nice lightning
rod for this team, Uh, this is going to be
some interesting times to try to balance who plays where
and how to get guys playing time, because you've got
a lot of guys, your veterans that don't want to
take days off. You know, you know that Christian Walker
(02:24:24):
doesn't want to take any time off at first base.
You know, jose L Tuov wants to be in there
at least six days a week. You know you're not
if he's not playing in left field, wants a DH
so uh. And then you got a guy like a
Chas McCormick who just hasn't seen much playing time at
all of an exceptional yesterday.
Speaker 2 (02:24:39):
There's a little bit of I'm.
Speaker 1 (02:24:40):
Ready to go, but there's just not enough spots in
the field right now for the guys that are looking
to get that extra playing time.
Speaker 2 (02:24:47):
Yeah, totally.
Speaker 11 (02:24:48):
And again, if you're you know, if you're Joe Spot,
no great problem to have. I mean, you got guys
on the bench who want to try to get in
bats because they're being productive and you can't do it
just because some guys are in France. I mean cam
Smith is it has not been Batman. I think his
ops is over seven hundred. But you're right, he's looked
more and more comfortable in right field. The running catch
on Sunday night was was great. I mean, he's very
(02:25:09):
athletic out there. You know, I think if he stayed
out there, if he does stay out there by the
end of the year, you know, I think it'll be.
Speaker 2 (02:25:16):
A very capable right fielder. Destenso too.
Speaker 11 (02:25:18):
I mean, he's you know, he played he played shortstop
in college. You know, he's a big guy who can
move really well, and so I think he can be
a solid right fielder as well. So that's gonna be
a position to watch going forward. When I think he
got those two guys now clearly are going to battle
for some playing time, Accormacks can continue to be that
late game replacement, whether that's in the left field for
Altuve or in right field for either.
Speaker 2 (02:25:39):
One of those guys when they had the lead. So it's, uh,
you know, the roster right now is you know, it
isn't bad.
Speaker 11 (02:25:46):
I mean, Joe's gonna have to try to piece it
together with the hot hands and so forth. And but
you know, having Zach Decenzo hit, you know, Joe's spottle
will take that any day and find a way to
get him in the light up.
Speaker 1 (02:25:56):
All right, you got a trip to Kansas City this
weekend to the local nine and then aj in Town
and the rest of the Tigers come in. They're playing
some excellent baseball right now, and I don't think we're
sitting there going revenge series after last year's wild Card.
But that's the Detroit team just isn't slowing down, So
things are about to get a little more stout. Kansas
City can hit, They're not doing much pitching so far.
It'll be just kind of nice facing some American opponents.
(02:26:18):
It feels like this Astros schedule, at least so far
in the early portion of the year, has been so
National League dominant.
Speaker 11 (02:26:24):
Yeah, they came out of the gate with what six
games against the NL. Then they faced the Cardinals and
Padre's back to back series, So yeah, good run of.
Speaker 2 (02:26:34):
AL teams coming up here.
Speaker 11 (02:26:36):
Yeah, I mean Detroit, I mean Maiz and Portolson looked
like number one picks. Finally, you know they were the
number one overall picks and that they're playing like and
now school is Schooball. He's got a you know, a
sub one whip and a two point two two e RA.
So you I don't know if we're going to see
him next week or not, but you know when anytime
the tiger's coming down, AJ is gonna push all the buttons.
And I mean, you know, Detroit's probably one of the
(02:26:58):
top four or five teams in the American League at
this point, but hey, Astros are sitting at thirteen eleven.
Speaker 2 (02:27:03):
They're only game behind the Rangers for first place.
Speaker 11 (02:27:06):
All the all the talk you know, a couple of
weeks into the season about you know, how terrible things
were going, and they're right there where they want to be.
So they just have to find a way to keep
it up and they should be able to go to
Kansas City and win a couple of those games.
Speaker 2 (02:27:20):
Hunter Browns pitches Sunday.
Speaker 11 (02:27:22):
If you remember last last season, Hunter brown had that
disastrous start in Kansas City, you know, where you couldn't
get out of the first inning. And so he's going
to go back there now as an ace a chance
to exercise some Demons that'll be fun to watch as well.
Speaker 1 (02:27:34):
Did you ever think you're gonna say a Hunter Brown
and A's in the same conversation. I mean the answer
could be yes, But in your mind, when you first
saw Hunter, you say, this is the kind of guy
that could be potentially a number one guy in a rotation.
Speaker 11 (02:27:46):
Well, when you started hearing buzz about him in the
minor leagues, I guess when he got to high A
or double A. Uh, you know, people internally were talking like,
you know, this guy could be a big part of
the rotation. You're always skeptical, skeptical when guys like that
are moving through, and it's never like he was before that,
like a top top prospect. But certainly this time last
year I would not have said that. I mean, he
was sort of clinging to just life as a big leaguer.
(02:28:08):
I mean, I think he was probably getting close to
getting shipped out before he you know, he changed things
up a little bit, but.
Speaker 2 (02:28:14):
It turned on a dime.
Speaker 11 (02:28:15):
And I think over the since May one, he's got
the second best e RA as far as starters in.
Speaker 2 (02:28:20):
The big league.
Speaker 11 (02:28:21):
So it's not that he's gonna be the ace or
what have you. He is the ace and that's some one.
Knock on Frimber Valdez because he's Ace one one B.
But right now, if you line up this rotation of
the playoffs, Hunter Brown would start a game one. So
if you say that, then yeah, that guy's your race,
and good for him for sticking with it and making
them necessary changes.
Speaker 1 (02:28:40):
All right, That again is Brian mctagger with us every
Thursday at eleven o'clock. We play some of the highlights
of that later in the one o'clock hour. All Right,
our internet is down, which means we cannot play Believe
it or not, not what we want to do, but
things are out of our control. Back to wrap things up,
it'll be in the most amazing final segment of The
Matt Thomas Show with Ross Next on seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (02:29:01):
That had to be Ai generated, right, every would have
said what up? What up?
Speaker 3 (02:29:04):
Right?
Speaker 2 (02:29:04):
I don't think I would have done that.
Speaker 1 (02:29:08):
Still have an opportunity for you to vote in our
poll question today, which is should the Rockets fans apologize
to Draymond for saying if you Draymond, ninety five percent
say oh hell no, five percent said yes, m that's fine.
(02:29:28):
There's no place for this course language in our beautiful
sport of basketball, Doctor.
Speaker 2 (02:29:35):
James Nasmith is rolling over in his grave.
Speaker 11 (02:29:38):
Won't somebody please think of Draymond's children?
Speaker 2 (02:29:42):
You know, honestly though he's not thinking of his children.
We're kicking people in the nuts.
Speaker 1 (02:29:46):
Yeah, you know what, it's not a kid's game anymore.
Going to sporting events is not in baseball to a
certain extent, is because there's eighty one games and you
can get into reasonably. But I've been an NBA game
and any kid's crowd. There are some young ins there,
but generally speaking, it's a twenty four to thirty five
age group for the most part. We can argue whether
(02:30:07):
or not it should be. But if you're taking a
child meant to a sporting event, it is baked in.
They're likely going to hear curse words. Yeah, at some point,
the athletes themselves, the coaches. Man, I love imay, but
and he's got got a potty mouth. Albe at games
sitting with you know, friends and family or whatever, and
I curse, you curse when we talked about curs in
(02:30:28):
our regular and then you realize, oh no, there's like
three kids behind me, and you kind of forget and
you try to keep track of it. But you know
you're crushing Crawford Box and something exciting happens, you'll let
one slip it. I mean, if you're going to be
out in a public space in a sporting event where
there is passion and energy like there is for our
teams in this town, it's gonna happen. And there's two
things why I don't begrudge what happened yesterday.
Speaker 2 (02:30:49):
One it doesn't happen on the day on the regular basis.
Speaker 1 (02:30:52):
And two, look who they were doing this target was
right if they were saying, bleep you Jonathan Kaminga Kaminga,
I out have been a little shot.
Speaker 2 (02:30:59):
If you moody, I'm like, why are you gonna have?
That's odd?
Speaker 1 (02:31:02):
It doesn't seem very nice. It would have been weird.
But it's Draymond Green. Yeah, and he deserves all those.
Speaker 2 (02:31:11):
Alcohol, the smoke, all the smoke. As the kids would say,
all right, uh.
Speaker 1 (02:31:15):
So tomorrow we'll have a full We're gonna wake the
strippers up tomorrow. Yes, we have a three hour I
have a three hours. I'll be off at one tomorrow
as we go off for a team. Am I getting
that guest for you or no? Did you want me
to get that guest?
Speaker 3 (02:31:28):
What guest?
Speaker 1 (02:31:29):
I told you who the guest was for Rocket Chatter?
No mcclaim, no, not, I can get you. John McClean
ain't working for anybody.
Speaker 2 (02:31:39):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (02:31:39):
That's the dumbest running joke in this shows.
Speaker 2 (02:31:43):
It's not even a joke. It's just dumb exactly.
Speaker 1 (02:31:45):
That's why it makes me laugh because it irritates you
do and John's nice. It just doesn't make any sense.
But literally ninety percent of things you say on the
show to't making sense.
Speaker 2 (02:31:56):
True. No, I don't think I need a guess. Okay,
you're gonna get We are planning to come in an hourly.
Speaker 1 (02:32:01):
Yeah, we're Gordy. We got peeps an hour by myself.
Gordy's unavailable, trust me. Now, he's coming by tomorrow at
ten fifty to say hi to us like he does
on Friday's. Okay we have I'm sorry to get to tomorrow.
I am very sorry. You know what, Maybe Rocket Fan
should apologize to Draymond Green. Maybe we'll open it up
for people to apologize. I'm not apologizing to Draymon. I
(02:32:22):
didn't do anything. First of all, wouldn't me screaming bleep
you draymon? Would you have enjoined if you were there? No,
no cheering in the press box. You are a distinguished
member of the media. There was somebody that was, uh,
they were drinking a dakery and kind of cheering in
the press box.
Speaker 2 (02:32:37):
I don't want to snitch on anybody. I know this place,
know who it was.
Speaker 1 (02:32:41):
I didn't know who they had a credential that they
didn't have a seat and they were kind of just
standing in the press area and like crushing a truly
or something and then like doing a little bit of cheering.
Speaker 2 (02:32:51):
As an adult, I've never had a daker before.
Speaker 1 (02:32:54):
Really, Matt, Matt, Matt, No, no the way, no way,
get him, Jonathan, no way.
Speaker 2 (02:33:00):
I'm not trying to avoid THEMN just never had you
never got in New Orleans, drive through Dakar on the
way in. I've had Margarita's and the little.
Speaker 1 (02:33:06):
One kne for the road. I mean, as I'm not driving,
by the way. Thank you, Thank you for pushing that agenda.
Long a designated driver. Yeah, I don't think I've ever
had one. I'm not I wouldn't be adverse to it.
I'm just saying a very sweet depending on I'm not
a huge The only sugary drinks I like Franklin Margarita's,
and that's just that's the devil's poison for me.
Speaker 2 (02:33:27):
A pop quiz question for you.
Speaker 1 (02:33:28):
Did I have some dakara last night while I was
waiting for ubers to go down outside of Nargie Stadium
and or did you pick up the uber eventually? Uh,
let's somewhere on main Street, Main Street, Murworth. Did you
take there? They're eighty dollars? No, I should have done that.
I didn't do that that. I've done that for the
rodeo multiple times, and that's the that's the pro move.
(02:33:49):
I did the dumb move, which was go to the
yellow uber lot and then kind of wait out the
well times you get home one o'clock. No one to
look like a hell damn. I'm here energetic doing a
four hour show and I'm taking a big nap.
Speaker 2 (02:34:04):
After this show in two minutes.
Speaker 1 (02:34:07):
I've got a brand new sponsor coming into the show
and I got a meeting with them today, So I

Speaker 1 (02:34:23):
You're gonna get me brand information that I haven't heard yet. Absolutely,
I promise you roundbreaking stuff. There's no chance for free
on the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (02:34:30):

Speaker 1 (02:34:32):
