Speaker 2 (00:06):
Sen oh two in h Town.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
Good morning everyone, ed.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Welcome to a Thursday edition of The Matt Thomas Show
with Ross Today, coming to you from the San Francisco,
California where tonight the Rockets are gonna take on the
Golden State Warriors. And uh, you may need to do
some prep on your Golden State Warriors because there's gonna
be some stars that are missing in tonight's game. We'll
get to that coming up a little bit later on
in the show. We have a busy program today which
(00:32):
will feature I Just Don't Get It at eleven thirty.
We'll have the News. At noon, We've got Doctor Roto Today.
At one o'clock we have Rosses Rotten five. At one thirty,
we've got Believe It or Not, and we most importantly
have you at seven one three two one two five seven,
ninety seven one three two, one two five seven eight
Sports every It's also a big day for us here
in the company iHeartRadio, putting our support hopefully getting all
(00:56):
of our listeners support to help out the Saint Jude's Children's.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Yes the Saint Jude Radiothon sponsored by gallery furniture on
for today and tomorrow. We'll have some more on that
as we go along.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
We will give out the numbers all the times. And
I'm gonna just say this real quick before we get
to the news and the conversation of the show today.
This summer, I had a chance to take a day
trip to Memphis to take a look at the facilities
and see the work that's being done by Saint Jude's,
and blown away would be the term I would use
in terms of its organization, its success. It's technology, it's staffing,
(01:32):
its research. It is if you have a charitable heart
and can afford to help us out, it is the
best money you will possibly ever spend, if you are
so inclined to do so. Families that get hit with,
you know, life threatening ailments, don't worry about a thing.
(01:52):
They bring their child up to Memphis, they take care
of them, they feed them. Then we're talking about the families,
we're talking about the kids, the patients themselves. It is
unbelievable the stress that would obviously come into play if
you had a child of yours that was suffering from
a life threatening and cancer or whatever the case may be,
to be able to go to a hospital and a
research facility and have everything taken care of. I mean
(02:15):
literally everything is taken care of. So that's why it's
very important for us in this our radio station and
our radio cluster here in Houston to get behind Saint
Jude's because it is as awesome of an organization as
you think it is.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
It's got a huge history.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Going back to Danny Thomas many decades ago, and the
work continues to be just amazing. So please and we'll
give you that number a couple of times sots of
the course of the show.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
So hopefully you guys can contribute.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Now to the sports headlines the day sports Harv, I
did make a gut feeling on Tuesday you were still gone.
I didn't think Alsi's alschei Ear's suspension was going to
be reduced. I know a lot of people wanted it to.
I know a lot of pundits frankly around the country.
We're looking to see it being reduced. And yesterday they met,
(03:00):
the appellate board got together and they said, how's easier
going to miss three games? Surprise? Not surprised your thoughts, I.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
Would say, not really surprised. My prediction was it was
going to be reduced by one game, but the fact
that they upheld it. We talked about the very strongly
worded from Yeah. The message from John was it running.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
What's his fame? First?
Speaker 3 (03:21):
John running? John John Runyan.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
J by the way, not jh okay.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
That is very confusing John Runyon, and how strongly worded
his message was, and how it did feel like an
example was being made. He has been a repeat offender,
he has been fined before, so I would say I
thought it might get to I thought it was going
to get reduced by one game, but not really surprised
that it wasn't. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
And then al Shaher went to his Twitter account and
I guess he went he kind of em guess embraced
the villain card.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
I guess so said, if you want a villain, I'm
ready to be a villain. It's like, wait, I thought
you already were a villain. Tom Brady thinks you're a villain.
Roshawn Johnson, who you punched in the face, thinks you're
a villain. And Trevor Lawrenson the Jacksonville Jaguars already think
you're a villain.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yeah, I think every Jacksonville fan thinks you are not
that there's very many of those. But yeah, I again,
and then you have people attacking the appellate process of
how a ex Titans player who may have had a
couple of dirty shots back in the day when he
was playing, and he's a member of the Tennessee Titans
radio crew, and this is a guy within the owned division.
(04:31):
I mean, it was it felt like yesterday when the
decision came down ROSSI that it was just one conspiracy
after the other. It was, this doesn't make sense, this
is wrong the NFL. And look, the NFL is not perfect. Frankly,
a lot of things the NFL doesn't make any sense.
But I feel like if they were to put up
if they had to put the pope up Ross and said,
you know, I want you to listen to this. Well,
(04:52):
he is Catholic, he can't possibly get this right. I mean,
the sticking people, I don't know, but I'm just saying
that anybody would have been brought up in front of this, like,
who's the nicest person in the world besides the Pope?
Me they put up Rossville n said, I said, you.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
Know, Ross, mister Rogers, Let's go with mister Rogers. He's dead,
don't like Okay, well see he's even nicer now he's
not gonna hurt anybody. That's true.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
Let's think about this. Who is the nicest, most commenting,
most for uh forgiving person in America or in the
world for that matter. We get the Pope.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
I just put it in Google and the first answer
was Keanu Reeves. So let's go with Keanu Reeves.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Keanu Reeves. I wouldn't have put that on my Bengo board.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
But sure.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
He made the movie with Sandra Bullock when he was
on a bus that had to go ahead to go
like a certain speed.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
And then they were on a boat and speed two.
It's speed, but on a boat instead of a bus.
It's speed too.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Okay, So Canna Reeves makes this decision and says, I'll share.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
You're gonna miss your three games.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Oh no, you can't have him doing his speed too sucked.
It wasn't nearly as good as the first one. That
guy's a fraud.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
Can we just have an honest discussion about this, Matt please?
People are being homers. If C. J. Stroud got trucked
in the exact same way, everybody would be all up
in arms. About the linebacker that did it, and he
wouldn't be defended nearly as much. Trevor Lawrence started to
slide maybe a little bit late, but as he's alsha here,
(06:24):
he put out his forearm and he it was a
conscious decision, in my mind, a conscious decision to try
to knock him and hit him as hard as possible.
And it's not an accident. What happened. It was not
an accident.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
So you're telling me that there are members of the
Houston media that are blind homers to this situation. Correct, stunned,
and frankly that those those blind homers are just wanting
to make sure they get their pie at the end
of the year from the Texans.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
And then we can agree that three games seemed a
touch heavy handed, but I would agree with that. I mean,
but the the fact of the matter is it was
it was a bad, dirty hit and it's something that
the NFL is trying to eliminate from the league. So
there absolutely was going to be a suspension.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
And here's the thing that's gonna be another unpopular was
he made to be main example of Yep, yes, that's
exactly what the NFL said. We don't want to see
this happened, and now to say it's never gonna happen
again will be ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
But we don't want to see it happen.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
And if it has happened again, we now have a
fresh precedence in front of us and says you do this,
you're gonna get a very heavy suspension, especially if you
have a track record.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Now again, what I think has.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Really caused perhaps the most uproar is the fact that
John Runyon statement a couple of days ago, I mean,
let's let's call let's let's be honest with it. He
tore apart the personality, the integrity, the sportsmanship of Alsi's
al Shah here. And that's why Nikki se was so
pissed off. A couple of days ago. He went right
(07:59):
at him, he said this, this is a bad dude,
and we're gonna we're gonna let you know that your
actions as a play happened, and what happened after the play,
plus your history, We're gonna put all that together. We're
gonna wrap it up like a Christmas gift. We're gonna
give you a nice, a nice gift of a three
game suspension.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Yeah, I mean, it was definitely a bit sanctimonious from
John Runyon.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
But I mean, oh, there's there's sanctimonious behavior on everybody's side.
I mean everybody at this And look, this was a
very very controversial event that took place. Everybody has an
opinion on it, and and including the great listeners of
this radio show. And if you say this is a
too harsh of a penalty, I mean, I mean, what's
(08:40):
for us to say? I mean, you and I don't
know what goes into this kind of stuff. Again, if
you and I were on this quote unquote a appellate board,
or you and I were the ones that are making
the penalties, I would have said, you know, he got
ejected from the game, and a one game suspension would
have felt like the appropriate punishment, right he felt thought otherwise.
So I mean, there's only so much that we can
(09:00):
do and so much we can discuss about it. But
I just think it's interesting that there are people attacking
who the appellate group was, who listened to it, John
Runying and then showing videos of what I mean. You know,
I guess what this has shown to all of us
is that everybody has a history, and that you bring
up anybody to look at this. If they'd have brought
(09:23):
up I mean, who would have been the next appropriate
person to come into I mean, is there a perfect
NFL player? Is there somebody that just never did anything wrong,
that never got a fifteen yard penalty, that never hit
a quarterback late, that never.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
Formed a player?
Speaker 2 (09:39):
I mean, I guess there's plenty of them that have
done that, But those guys don't want to do with
this job is being a vice principal ross is not fun?
Speaker 3 (09:47):
Who wants to do this?
Speaker 2 (09:48):
It takes a special person to do this.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
And I think especially on defense you're talking about linebackers
and when defenders in general, you gotta have a bit
of an edge about you to make it to the NFL.
I think that it's kind of baked into me.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Yeah, yeah, seven one three two one two five seven ninety.
I would say if you took a poll that the
majority of Houston sports fans probably said this is ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
And he's being made an example. Well guess what, that's
exactly what's happened.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
And now the Texans are going to have to play
the next three games against two playoff teams for sure.
And I don't know, but it's not a great stretch
to be playing what it's going to be three games
in about eleven days. I think when it's in the dust,
settles on this and then have to do it without
a guy that has come in and been pretty good
for your football team this year.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
Should be fresh and ready to go for the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
Let me ask you this, so we'll talk about this
coming back. Is this going to galvanize the team losing
your best linebacker? No, I'd rather have him on the field.
Speaker 3 (10:50):
Is this the latest round of adversity? Oh, we talked
about this? What you were gone with? Because I despise adversity. Well,
nobody likes adversity, but ROSSI. Everybody has it. Literally everybody
in the world has it. Some people deal with it
better than others.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
I have adversity every day between ten and two, some adversity,
and I overcome it.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
Yeah, mean calls and tweets, you make it through, Matt.
We're proudy I do I do?
Speaker 2 (11:17):
Seven one three two, one two five seven ninety. When
you heard that al SHARE's penalty is still gonna be
three games, what was your initial reaction.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
I want to hear from you, guys.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
Seven one three two one two five is seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven nine zero. Uh,
let's give out the number, by the way for the

Speaker 3 (11:56):

Lunchtimers, Lunchtimeers.
Speaker 1 (12:56):
This is the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 2 (13:02):
Ten nineteen on Sports Talk seven ninety. It is the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross. I'm here in San Francisco. Ross,
who's got a full night's rest? Is your body clock
back to where it's supposed to be now? After your
little international getaway?
Speaker 3 (13:15):
I think I'm pretty good. I was strung. I wanted
to fall asleep around five pm yesterday, but I had
I had to make myself stay up.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
When's the last time you said I need to go
to bed at five pm.
Speaker 3 (13:29):
Never I was geta say, poor, I was draggon, so
I had a Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
I was just I don't know, doing anything possible to
try and stay up. Yeah, it's funny because I took
a nap yesterday here at the hotel ride for the show,
and I was like, I'm taking a nap. At one
point fifteen, It's like this is pretty good. But then
I thought to myself, I've been up since six forty
five in the morning. I'm damn tired. So but the
fight must move on. We are very happy to be
with you every day between ten o'clock until two. On
(13:55):
seven ninety we have Rockets Warriors. Tonight. We'll have the
coverage beginning with the launch pad at eight o'clock tiptime
is a little past nine. Rockets game two of a
three game West road trip will be in Los Angeles
for a game Sunday night against the LA Clippers. I
do want to give you an injury update because there
is a bunch of players are going to be out
(14:16):
for tonight's game.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
Let me see here.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
I know Draymond Green is out for sure.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
That's good. Everybody's not gonna get poked in the eye
and kicked in the nuts today. That's great, all right,
Steph Curry's out for tonight's game. Well, that's good. Knee
injury management. Well, I mean I want him to be helped.
Well I don't really. I mean, you know, I don't
want him to be hurt. But if he's going to
miss the game, I'm not mad. I mean, I'm let
me be honest with you. I'm sick and tired of
losing the Warriors. I mean, it's ridiculous. Is it?
Speaker 5 (14:41):
Was it?
Speaker 2 (14:41):
Fourteen in row? Now it's something. I think we've all
lost track.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
It's not fun, it's not great.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Andrew Wiggins is questionable with right angle ankle impingement. Right
ankle impingement, okay, Rockets will not have Tarre easton tonight.
He's the cancussion protocol. Fred van Vliet is questionable with
a right knee contusion. Okay, And no word yet on
any sort of fine for on a DOKA after what
(15:11):
he said the other day.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
So yeah, he was on on this show yesterday and
said he was waiting to hear pretty soon.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Yeah, I want Could the NBA let him get away
with it? I don't think so. I wouldn't think so
you drop an F bomb and glasses in the same
seton you're kind I don't feel like that's one you
let slide as a league, Like, for instance, did you
ever have friends of yours that, like, I have a
(15:41):
I have a pretty decent silver tongue.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
You do as well.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
But there are some people that are you know, that
don't want to get in fights, that don't want to
insult you, that you feel like, you know what, if
you get into a barbers ar arguing with somebody, you're
gonna win because you gotta you gotta more of a
silver tongue than the other person does. I don't think
I want to get into a verbal or physical.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
Confrontation with No, I don't think so, not me personally.
I'm gonna go ahead and sit that one out.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
Because didn't he call Lebron a soft ass b?
Speaker 3 (16:08):
I believe so he did.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
He just called the second greatest player in the history
of the NBA a soft ass b.
Speaker 3 (16:15):
I mean that's something special, right, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
Well, I mean, I mean he didn't call some you know,
thirteenth player and a roster some scrub a soft day.
He called the I mean, the all time winning score
in the history of the NBA.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
Yes, also the most misshots in the history of the NBA,
by the way they got their ass kick.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
Yes, most turnovers in the history of the NBA. But
a great player, a fantastic player who they got crushed
last night by the Miami Heat, I mean destroyed.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
How's coach Reddick feeling about that? I don't think he's
feeling great.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
Let me check the old scoreboard here. This is the
NBA todeboard that last night saw the Miami Heat beat
them one thirty four to ninety three h.
Speaker 3 (17:01):
Twelve and ten. Now the Los Angeles Lakers, what happened?
They're off to that hot start and everybody's talking about
how great JJ Reddick was. Yep, yep, but it once.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
It's one of those situations now that basically everybody in
the world of sports media is like, no matter who
coaches the Lakers, it's just it's Lebron and he runs
things and I don't And I don't know if it's
necessarily fair for him to do that, because if you're
on if you're an alpha dog, you're gonna always get
their characteristic But are we saying that Lebron and the
people around him are totally unculturable?
Speaker 3 (17:31):
Is that?
Speaker 2 (17:31):
Is that the trend? Because Eric Spolster was able to
coach Lebron James, right, Yeah, I was able to coach
Lebron James.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
I just think they're just not very good as a team. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:39):
I mean, look, I have been critical of certain things
that Lebron has done in his life, but I don't
think he should be wearing this. I think this is
a first year coach who is learning the tricks of
the trade. And it's a lot easier to be a
television analyst and talking about how things are happening as
compared to trying to, you know, to motivate and draw
plays and try to get a team of a few
(18:00):
stars and a few fringe players to play hard every
single night.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
It's just difficult.
Speaker 6 (18:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
Lebron had twenty nine points, eight assists, five rebounds in
that game, twelve eighteen from the field.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
So not only was he efficient, but he was scoring,
but he was efficiently scoring.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
Yes, he had twenty nine of their ninety three points.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
I mean, my god, what do you want him to do?
He's forty years old, sirir. I mean, for all the
crazy stuff he says off Mike, he's still must watched,
especially in person. Mm hmm, because he can still at
his age take over a game. Can you do as
much it did ten years ago? Of course not, but
(18:37):
he still can. He gives you one the two wild
moments per game. He just does even at forty years old.
Speaker 3 (18:45):
Yeah, impressive, unprecedented.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
Yeh, all right, more on the Alsi's alshi Ear suspension.
We have a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars that said
a few things within the last couple of days.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
He talked about how much he loves and supports his ease.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
I don't believe that'd be at the caase that'd be
a one percent lie. But you can sell it that
way if you.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
Want it to. We'll see, we'll hear it, and we'll
come back.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
We've got to just don't get it at eleven thirty
and mine is a once a year. I just don't
get it every time I go to a particular city,
and so that do do you have an international flavor
if I just don't get it from your tra.
Speaker 3 (19:22):
Hm We got an hour to think about it. Things
ran pretty smoothly over there. It was more of like
I just don't get why we can't have good public
transit here in America.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
Maybe it's maybe it's a diamond against the United States.
How they have it, they're act together and we don't.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
I guess you can't build underground in Texas or in
Houston because of the soil or something like that. But
the subway systems and are getting around in those cities
so much easier than getting around here.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Yeah, seven one three, two two five seven nine. If
you want to join our conversation today that I just
don't get, it's coming up at eleven thirty. By the way, Also,
Connedy mc governor went to see justin Timberlake last night.
We got to get a quick recap of how that
concert went down. So I got a lot to get to,
Doctor Rote. We've got the Rotten five the news at noon,
so we want you to be a part of the
show at seven one three, two one two five seven
(20:06):
ninety seven one three two one two five seven ninety
It's Matt Thomas old Rawson.
Speaker 3 (20:10):
This is Sports Talk, seven ninety.
Speaker 5 (20:13):
Quick cannimal fact number two hundred and thirty three. Most
Wales don't watch sports. They're Dallas fans. And when I
think of whining, I think of Dallas and.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
Speaking of Wales. Back to former whale Matt Thomas.
Speaker 5 (20:28):
I'll be back to my girlish weight of two eighty
six on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (20:37):
Probably got rid of that one. Be on Rude.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
Uh. We are looking for those great citizens of Houston,
which obviously we believe that you are to help with
the Saint Judes and becoming a partner and hope nineteen
dollars makes you a partner and hope. We're looking to
raise a million dollars that we raised last year for
the Saint Juds Children's Hospitals. Fun number is one one
hundred five eight eight one four three three. One eight
(21:03):
hundred and five eight eight one four three three. That's
brought to you apart by Gallery Furniture, as we look
to raise a lot of money for a worthwhile cause.
It's our Saint Jude Radio Fund throughout our iHeartRadio stations.
And again that number is one eight hundred five eight
eight one four three three. All right, let's talk about
jerryan Jones. How much you know about Jerry and Jones
(21:25):
Sports RV.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
I think he's done great things as owners of the Cowboys.
He's really raised them to new heights and don't know
Jerryan Jones. Oh, I don't know a whole lot a
lot about him.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
He's a cornerback for the Jacksonville Jaguars. We can do
believe or not about him today. I don't know if
you say so. Third round of the last year's NFL
Draft put his college football at both Mississippi State Yes
and Florida State uh huh. So he had a few
comments about uh Demiko Ryans after Dimiko came to the
(22:00):
defense of Alsi's Alshaier just a couple of days ago.
Speaker 7 (22:04):
I mean, that's my brother. You know, I kind of
regret that.
Speaker 8 (22:07):
One of the biggest things I regret about it is
getting ejected, you know from the game that you know
to be there, you know, for my teammates and stuff
like that. But you know, as far as the whole thing,
when you know that's my brother, you know, I do
the same thing for all seventy guys or however that
make up you know, Zack's organizations, So you know grand
scheme of things. You know, you can't get ejected from
the game. That's just something you can't do. And I
(22:28):
probably don't have a health to find coming for that.
Speaker 7 (22:30):
But you know, the Miko rans he felt like you
guys ever reacted.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
It's not how you think any team would have reacted
to their quarterback in the head like that.
Speaker 7 (22:37):
I don't even want to talk about that guy.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
H I don't even want to talk about that guy.
Interesting hmm.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
I brought a question to you a few minutes ago.
Did this suspension and the upheld of the suspension upholding
a yes, I up holding you mm hmm?
Speaker 3 (23:01):
Did that gallant?
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Is that gonna potentially gallanize the Texans locker room?
Speaker 3 (23:06):
No?
Speaker 2 (23:08):
You think it's net loss of a key defensive player.
Speaker 3 (23:12):
Yeah, I mean they're gonna play, they've played without him before.
They're gonna be fine. But I think all a lot
of times we talk about how this is going to
motivate people and all that type of stuff, Like I think,
as a practical matter on the field, I don't think
it's gonna matter much. I mean, and also they have
a bye week as well.
Speaker 9 (23:33):
Umm.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
The funniest thing was somebody who was it Casaro City's
gonna be gone for a month. I'm like, yeah, I can.
I don't think he's gonna be running to make to
every fast food between the house and the facility for them.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
I mean, I think he can be able to handle himself.
So you can't be around the facilities when you're just
suspended at all.
Speaker 2 (23:51):
I guess not, that's what it sounds like. I mean,
he wasn't gonna be there this week anyway, because that
was you know, that's the off week, so nobody's gonna
be around anyway. Mm hmm.
Speaker 3 (24:00):
But yeah, I guess he can't be anywhere near it. Huh.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
Maybe it kind of makes sense if you're suspended, you're suspended.
I mean, I know you can't practice clearly, but we
can't play. But I didn't know that you could.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
Like I s there like a detector says, hey, we're
watching over to make.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
Sure he doesn't show up to the weight room or
doesn't go eat with his buddies.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
I don't know what I'm reading. It just now says
they are allowed to practice with teammates.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Then why was there such a big deal made out
of him being gone for a month. I guess just
the playing time. But that doesn't make any sense.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
Well, well, obviously we'll figure out next week when they
start practicing again.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Yeah, we'll figure it out.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven,
one three two one two five seventy. We're gonna have
Gordy come in eleven twenty today, the Chris Gordy.
Speaker 3 (24:41):
The Chris Gordy.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
I mean, I know he's busy with god knows how
many meetings I've never heard of before, the people who've
never heard of.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
But he is busy. Man. Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
I think I think he's I think he's just booking
appointments for Memphis Radio and Jacksonville.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
Well he's got to do that too.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
He's on Columbia's South Carolina Sports Leader kind of thing.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
But he's going to join us at eleven twenty.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
Because I don't know how much you spent yesterday looking
at Twitter about people are losing their mind over the CFP,
this college football playoff and how you've got all these
conference commissioners defending their conference. Brett Yormark is like, where
the freaking Big twelve. We do not deserve a We
(25:23):
deserved absolutely one hundred percent have a buy in the
second round Where the freaking Big twelve. And I'm sure
the ACC is saying the exact same thing. Where the
ACC this is, how do you how do byu b
SWU for the only loss of the year. We run through,
run shot at rough shot, through all of this, and
(25:44):
if we lose to Clemson, we still deserve to be
in the playoff. I mean, everybody is rossy grandstanding to
the umpteenth degree to defend their schools and defend their conferences.
It's just going to come across like Sunday, you're not
gonna want to watch anything related to college football because
you're gonna have so many fan bases. So like, we
got screwed. How we not in this thing? How did
(26:04):
the three loss team get in? How did our one
loss team not get in? It's a mess. And I
feel like even if you open the tournament up to
sixty teams, teams sixty one, sixty two, and sixty three
three would still be mad that they didn't get in
the playoff.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
Yeah. But I mean this is I said this the
whole time, is that even when I thought I was
gonna go to eight or maybe twelve, is that you
should not do anything by conference champion. It should just
be the top four teams get a bye. And that's that.
It shouldn't be by comp because some years you are
gonna have, particularly the ACC and the Big Twelve be
weaker than the other two conferences, and they might not
(26:37):
be worthy. You might have three or or maybe even
sometimes four loss teams depending come out of those conferences,
and they get all get an automatic buy. I think
that's ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
Well, the thing that's making people so upset is that
you have teams that are not playing in conference championship
games that feel like they've got a better chance to
make the playoff because they're not playing with a chance
of potentially chose it. And that has happened before the
teams in the past where you've been actually penalized by
playing in your championship game.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
It's also happened before where there's let's say, a team
that is like twelve and oh or eleven and one
is in the conference championship game and they get upset
by a team with three or four losses, and then
all of a sudden, that team gets to buy and
they have all those losses. I mean, I think it's
just not fair.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
Yeah, I don't know what the right answer is. I
just know there's going to be a lot of grumpy
people whenever that announcement comes up on Sunday, because somebody
is going to feel like they got screwed. So even
though we expanded from four to twelve, the angst and
upset college football fan, I don't and again the general
(27:38):
college football fan who doesn't have a dog in the fight,
Like for inst if you're a fan of I mean
sadly Houston, I don't care who shows up where. Just
give me a good tournament. That's what my philosophy is.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
Yeah, we run into this in basketball, right, it's sixty
eight teams and then you have coaches coming out and
talking about how they.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
Got robbed and they deserve to be in.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
It's like, Okay, if you're the sixty ninth best team, relax, Okay,
you didn't really deserve to be in.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
I guess the biggest argument is is that Alabama looks
like they could be in with three losses. Yeah, I
get that, losing their mind.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
It's a bad lot, like twenty four to three to Oklahoma.
Why are we forgetting this? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (28:17):
What's their best win? I think, and I think Georgia
our government is too. Is that people are saying, what
is the College Football Committee? What's their criteria? What they're
telling us they're going to do one thing, but then
their votes say another thing. And that's why, Well, you know,
we'll get Gordian And this is the thing I brought
up last week when you were gone.
Speaker 3 (28:35):
When Gordy gets.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
Going, it's so fun to listen to. He'll be like
nice and calm, and then something will come up and
then he will raise his voice. It's like we don't
even need to turn the pot up the volumin Gordy's
voice goes up like tenfold.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
It's generally something about Alabama then right, it's generally.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
Something about well he got Texas fans got.
Speaker 3 (28:54):
Mad at him. Oh oh, what do you say about them?
Speaker 2 (28:56):
Because he was talking about how Texas's schedule was was really.
Speaker 3 (28:59):
Soft, really soft. They beat seven teams in the SEC. Well,
but they were the apparently they were the seven easiest team,
the seven, the only the seven easiest.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
I wouldn't make the schedule. I'll let I'll let you
argue with him about that. Ask Alabama how easy it
is to beat Oklahoma? Ask Alabama how easy it is
to beat Vanderbilt on the road? Mm hmm, Ask U
who did Florida be?
Speaker 6 (29:20):
Was it?
Speaker 2 (29:20):
Old? Miss?
Speaker 3 (29:21):
Well?
Speaker 2 (29:22):
The fact is this is that Texas did not create
the nonir their conference schedule, so I can't. What you
have to do is if you have a super soft
schedule like Indiana's a great example of this, ROSSI they had.
They had Michigan on their schedule this year at home,
but Michigan turned out to be a five hundred football team.
They didn't expect that going in. They had one opportunity
(29:44):
to prove they were worthy of being an elite team nationally,
and they went to Ohio State and get their ass kicked.
So that's the only thing that I think when you
get the schedule conversation is if you have a bunch
of cupcakes on your schedule, you can't control that. But
if you have one good one and you don't show
up for that game, that to me shows that maybe
you aren't among the elite and maybe you shouldn't be considered.
(30:06):
Because Indiana has all these wins against all these secondary teams,
which is fine because again they didn't create their schedule.
They created their non conference obviously, but they didn't create
their conference schedule, and the one chance they had to
show who they were, they went to Ohio State and
blanked the bed m HM for me, that that to me,
is more of an indictment against Indiana because you had
one chance to prove how good you were and you
(30:28):
weren't able to do it. That's when it comes to
me when I when arguing about schedule, is that if
you have a good one on your schedule, and by
the way, if you're in the Big ten, if you're
in the SEC, you have to have at least.
Speaker 3 (30:39):
One or two quality opponents. The conferences are too good. Yeah,
you can't. You can't have SEC.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
Every game that you play in a particular conference that
team sucked every week. It's just not possible.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
Yeah, ask ask Elasu how easy it is to go
into Kyle Field and win. Oh they didn't. M By
the way, my Facebook reels are just oh, go ahead.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
This is the yell leaders.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
They know you click on them. Man, it's the algorithm
they're getting you. Stop clicking on them.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
But they mean they're lifting their leg up in the air,
they're putting their hands in weird positions.
Speaker 3 (31:13):
They're yeah, they're they're losers. Just saying they're losers. I
don't go ahead.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
They're losers. Look, and we're going to beat those purpose
those burnt orange horns.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
They're fat could.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
You imagine speaking in in yell leader tone your entire life?
It's Matt Top show. Ross.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
Wait, do you sound like Jim Rome?
Speaker 6 (31:45):
Now?
Speaker 3 (31:46):
No, I don't have a take. Do not suck.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
Rockets. We're not the little brother I mean, god, my
middle son justscus so mad at me. But they're such dorks.
I find them not charming. I don't find them interesting.
I find and again they're not looking for my approval.
I get that, you know what a name's looking for
my check and they're gonna get it from me, and
(32:14):
my son in return is getting a great education.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
So I got zero complaints.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
Seven one three two one two five seven out of
all the Yelier fans that can come after us.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
That's fine. We can handle it, right, Yeah, I think
we can.
Speaker 2 (32:26):

We've got a huge Saint Jude's radio thion going on today.
We'll give you the phone number on that a little
bit and we look forward to talking with you at
seven one three two one two five at seven ninety
seven to one three two one two five seven ninety
We've got I just don't get it coming up in
(34:25):
about fifty minutes from now. Let's talk right now, forty
minutes from now to Dwayne calling us on seven ninety
at ten forty nine, Dwayne, good morning.
Speaker 9 (34:35):
Good morning.
Speaker 10 (34:35):
Can you hear me?
Speaker 3 (34:36):
Yes, sir, okay good.
Speaker 10 (34:39):
I wanted to first of all, make a comment about
the college football playoffs. Sure, and I think that a
lot of teams that were left out. And I am saying,
I don't know what you guys know about USC's defense
and and how many points they give up. But Florida,
(35:00):
Florida State's defense is just as bad as theirs. And
I don't think that I would like to go into
a game watching them play Alabama or whoever they're going
to play and end up losing something like sixty to
ten or something, because when you got a defense that bad,
there's no reason you should be in the playoffs. And
then I think at the end, it's going to be
(35:21):
Oregon in Texas, that's all, and the winner of that
one will be the champ. And the second comment I
wanted to make was about the game on Sunday between
the Texans and the Jaguars.
Speaker 9 (35:33):
If it would.
Speaker 10 (35:34):
Have been a running back or a wide receiver that
got hit like that, do you think that the punishment
would have been as bad? And that's all I like
to say.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
So basically, what you're saying, Ross is if that was
let's say that a quarter a receiver was running over
the middle of the field and he got yeared with
a forearm and he didn't know it was coming.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
I guess this is the question, just a different situation,
because Trevor Lawrence was giving himself up. He was sliding.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
But if you're but if you're a helpless receiver don't
know what's coming. They also treat those very severely too.
Speaker 3 (36:17):
Yes, but I think they do punish crimes against quarterbacks more.
You can't hit him high, you can't hit them low.
I mean if you have them hard. A lot of
times clean hard hits on the quarterback get called for
in the passer. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:29):
The reality is this ross and this is our audience
as well. The quarterback is the most important player on
the football field. It's the most expensive player in the
football field. It frankly determines your franchise's future. The NFL
has made it a point, and this is no you know,
crazy observation to make sure they're protecting more than any
(36:51):
other player in.
Speaker 3 (36:51):
The football field.
Speaker 2 (36:52):
Yeah, because there's more invested in those guys.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
It's not an accident. They drive the product. If you
if you have two good quarters in the field in
an NFL game, it's gonna be a lot more pleasing
to the eye. It's gonna get more ratings, it's gonna
get more points, it's gonna get it's just gonna be
a better product. Yep, yep.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
So, as far as I'm concerned, I think you have
to absolutely make sure that they are protected under every circumstance,
and that's the reason why they're going to get the
benefit of out more than anybody else. And so let's
say that, Let's say it was Nico Collins that got
hit like that against a member of the secondary, there
(37:32):
probably would have been an injection. I don't I'll say this.
I guess it also depends on Ross who did the hitting,
because clearly by what John Runyon said it was verified
yesterday by the appellate board, is that history and previous
activities did play a factor in the Alzit Sharer al
Sharers three game suspension.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
As it should I think it should have, and I
think that's why it was three games. You literally punched
somebody in the face earlier in this in this season.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
Yeah, So what may ask then, why didn't they suspend
him at that point for that? I mean, do you
basically let guys get away with things for a while
and then all of a sudden say enough's enough?
Speaker 3 (38:14):
Is that is that how it works? Uh? I don't.
I don't know. So what did he get suspended? What
did he get fined for earlier the punch? And he
got fined for the punch suspended but not suspended. I mean,
I'm not trying to justify it, because again I'm not
surprised of the the upheld of the suspension. But in
(38:35):
his defense, if you are really mad at me for
my actions, you're finding me one week and then a
bunch of weeks later you're saying, well, I'm adding this
to the other. I mean, it's like you're got you know,
they don't call me mister analogy for a reason. It's
like a lump sum, like a balloon payment at the end.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
Yeah, I mean, are they are they accruing penalties and
saying once you get to a certain but we're gonna
then we're gonna ing you hope.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
And then we're gonna open the floodgates. He was also
fine for a late hit out of bounds of Tony
Pollard in week twelve. So yeah, this has been adding up.
You punch somebody, you're fine for a late hit, and
then you do this to Trevor Lawrence, get ejected, start
a fight, and as the statement said, continue to fight
two different times.
Speaker 2 (39:19):
You're gonna get to spendfit three games.
Speaker 3 (39:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
Yeah, So I'm just I'm just trying again to try
to figure out how these big organizations, these big governing
boards penalize their people. That's beyond our pay grade. Helsa.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
Here is not the victim here, he's not. Trevor Lawrence's
stuff is.
Speaker 2 (39:37):
Well, his Twitter accounts as he is. Yeah, the villa.
I know that. Well, now he's the villain. By the way, Elsie,
you probably shouldn't have done it. I just running the
social media to make a point. I don't think more times,
more times than that ross doesn't work out. I don't
think here saying there's a level of sympathy that just
came over this.
Speaker 3 (39:53):
This is my villain arc.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
You were flagged, you were fine for a late hit on.
Speaker 3 (39:57):
Tony Pollard, fine for punching a guy, and now find
suspended and ejected for a forearm shiver to the dome
of Trevor Lawrence.
Speaker 2 (40:07):
It's knocked him out for the season.
Speaker 3 (40:09):
He's not the victim here, he's not. Well.
Speaker 2 (40:12):
Social media says that. Well, social media, the ultimate Texans
kool aid drinkers are saying that, I'm just telling you, friends,
our guy c J.
Speaker 3 (40:22):
Strod our hero gets knocked out like that, and you're
coming in.
Speaker 2 (40:26):
With your pitch for exactly you just are it's it's
just the reality of it. And thankfully you and I
are here to make sure we put that out there
and we hope it never happens. Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven nine zero. I want to tell you
about Game Day Men's Health second hour of the show
(40:48):

(41:50):
That's Game Day Men's Health dot Com slash Houston.
Speaker 1 (41:55):
Launch timers. This is the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 3 (42:00):
Our number two of four is the Bad Time of
Show with Ross.
Speaker 2 (42:04):
That is me.
Speaker 3 (42:06):
We have coming up at eleven to thirty. I just
don't get it. We also have a couple of you
on the phone lines which we can get you at
seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety Rockets and Warriors.
Later on tonight that'll be a late night nine o'clock
start here on Sports Talk seven ninety eight o'clock Rockets
(42:29):
launch Pad with yours truly. We also have doctor Rodo.
As we get into crunch time, only a couple of
weeks left before the playoffs start. Doctor Roto with us
from one to one thirty and I'll bring you the
Rotten five coming up at one thirty as well. Phone
lines open at seven one three, two, one two five
seven ninety if you would like to get in seven
(42:49):
one three two one two five seven ninety. And it
boils down to this, and we've been talking a lot
about this as ease alsha here suspension upheld three games.
Is that Demiko is going to come out and he's
going to back his guy. We know like that. That
should have been the easiest thing to predict, is that
Demiko Ryans was going to have Aziz al Shalleer's back.
(43:09):
He always has his players back, he always goes into
the coach speak. He's always going to defend his guys.
That's not surprising and maybe it's making some waves. We
played the audio from jerryon Jones of the Jaguars and
how he doesn't even want to talk. I didn't want
to talk about that guy talking about Demiko Ryans. Well,
he's doing what we thought he was going to do.
I was a little more surprised that Nick Cassario came
out as heavy handed as he was, dropping bs bombs
(43:33):
as well on John Runyon. But the fact of the
matter is there is some history there with Aziz al Shaller.
It continued to happen, and they want to make a
statement and they want to make an example of him.
They want to stop this type of activity. So it
shouldn't be surprising to anyone that the suspension was completely upheld.
(43:53):
And again, azizausha Heir is not the victim here. Seven one, three, two,
one two five, seven ninety. You get the late head
against Pollard, you punch Roshawn Johnson, and then now you
do this, you're gonna get suspended.
Speaker 6 (44:07):
Matt.
Speaker 2 (44:08):
Yeah, I again I wouldn't three is too many, But
what are you gonna do? I mean, I just I
just don't think it's conspiracy. I think it's we just
saw it dominate the news headlines. And do I think
Rossie I got something for you. I think this the
penalty was partly media driven. It's a graphic, uncomfortable, uneasy look.
Speaker 3 (44:30):
And you got the replay and it was how many
times did the replay? A thousand times?
Speaker 2 (44:35):
Thousands of times, which didn't help the cause. But that's
what the NFL is everything is magnified because it's the
most popular sport and everything.
Speaker 3 (44:44):
You can't get away with anything. Yeah, And I will
also say it also looked bad because the way that
Trevor Lawrence's head went into the turf and then he
went into the you know, the limp handy like fencing
response is what they call it. Like clearly a brain
injury there. If he'd have gotten right up from it, didn't,
didn't didn't. It also wouldn't have been as much of
a talking point. So uh. But the fact of the
matter is that doesn't change what Aziz al Jaira did.
Speaker 2 (45:06):
All right seven one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven ninety
We got some folks that want to talk about this,
and we are here for you. Kevin and Humble on
eleven o three.
Speaker 3 (45:17):
Good morning, Kevin, Good morning guys. Uh.
Speaker 1 (45:24):
John Runyan I should have uh removed himself from the situation,
being that he's employed by the Titans.
Speaker 3 (45:32):
Uh. And no, no, no, no, no, no, no no no.
Speaker 2 (45:35):
John Runyon is not employed by the Titans. The sideline
what No, that's somebody else that's in there broadcast. That's
the appellate guy that did that, Ramone Foster. Yeah, Ramone
Foster was that. That is curious that he would be
doing that because you have that dual role. But no,
(45:56):
John Runyan is in charge of penalties. The other guy
that you talked about is the one that is the
appellan judge or not the judge. But they heard the
heard the herring Vermone Foster.
Speaker 3 (46:13):
Hello, he's well, thanks for that.
Speaker 2 (46:16):
Here's my point. It is a little weird. I will,
I know what he was trying to say. He's got
the name wrong. It is a little weird that you'd
have Ramone Foster doing it that currently works for an
NFL team, that works for a team within the division.
I mean, I can see the conspiracy theory in it,
(46:38):
but I would think Rossie, the NFL vested these guys
and hear the things. And by the way, Ramone Foster,
well I don't even know existed until yesterday, was cleared
by both the Players Association and the NFL. So they
they gave no one forced Ramone Foster down either side
throat here.
Speaker 3 (46:57):
Yeah, That's what I was gonna say as well. They
they both sides of pro so I mean that that
just throws out any sort of like this is by.
Speaker 2 (47:04):
All he works for the Titans, and and.
Speaker 3 (47:06):
They're just gonna try to break down and bring down
the Houston Texans, and they're gonna suspend it like the
Titans earning for the division. He works on the sideline. Sure,
but as you said, vetted and approved by both sides.
He got a hold on.
Speaker 2 (47:18):
I just saw a text this from Amy Krunk Strunk.
Speaker 3 (47:21):
It says, get him.
Speaker 2 (47:25):
You don't have Amy krunk Strunk in your in your contacts.
She is in my four utab for some reason. Yeah,
probably everybody's in your four U tab. My for you
tab is so dangerous, it's terrible.
Speaker 3 (47:36):
By the way, I had to mute the words Hawk
and Tua. Did you see what she did this yesterday?
She's crypto drifting too, like your girl, Taylor.
Speaker 2 (47:45):
Taylor, Yes, can't grit, You can't. What is going on
with that? She didn't even know what a crypto coin is.
She knows two things, Hawk and Tua.
Speaker 3 (47:56):
I know bitcoins over one hundred thousand. Now, somebody in
our traveling party sold out yesterday, quite sold out, really, Okay,
A lot of people, A lot of people were waiting
to one hundred to sell.
Speaker 2 (48:09):
Yeah, so Hawk to a girl has her own bitcoin.
Speaker 3 (48:14):
Basically, I think they call them meme coins.
Speaker 11 (48:17):
Ros.
Speaker 3 (48:17):
So you gotta get out of that. I don't want
you lose any money of this.
Speaker 2 (48:20):
This this sounds so freaking shit quite well right now?
Speaker 3 (48:23):
Quite lock? What who is that?
Speaker 7 (48:28):
That? Me?
Speaker 2 (48:29):
You?
Speaker 3 (48:30):
When did I say this? That sounds vaguely familiar? Now
play that again?
Speaker 2 (48:35):
Hawk Connor. You've been holding out of that sound bite
for way too long.
Speaker 12 (48:43):
You know what?
Speaker 3 (48:43):
I hate Connor hates strong. Yeah, I know that's why
I used it. No, I'm just kidding. Damn Ryan and
Montgomery seven to a Hi Ryan.
Speaker 13 (48:56):
That was funny. I was anyways, lost my t thought.
I gotta so, I gotta make this quick. I gotta
get back to work. I understand as ziz al Shaire
had previous run ends. I get that if those were
as bad as they were, they should have punished him then.
And I'm not disagreeing with this punishment here, but previous
that incidents, it's like it's like the court of law,
right is you're doing You're you're treating. One instance. Now
(49:19):
that being said, it was a dirty hit. I watched
it live. My wife heard me audibly go, oh my God, and.
Speaker 3 (49:26):
She goes, what happened. I think they just killed Trevor Lawrence.
I think he's dead.
Speaker 13 (49:29):
And so she came over there and looked at it,
and she's like, is he not moving now? He hadn't moved,
But everybody's just beating each other's ass. But that was
a dirty hit. But to bring up all the old stuff,
not to I'm sorry to disagree with you, Ross, but
it should be. If they didn't like him punching that
dude in the face, or they didn't like him making
that other hit, they should have punished him adequately then
not okay, let's wait for the next one.
Speaker 3 (49:50):
Let's wait for the next one. Both os.
Speaker 13 (49:54):
But okay, maybe they suspend him a game for one
of those, I don't know. But bringing it all up
and piling it onto him into one suspension, whether the
league did that or not, it was a media driven thing,
I don't know. Just it should be one incident, one incident,
one punishment, not oh, we're going to stack up all
this other stuff. It's not like previous offenders and dwis.
Speaker 3 (50:11):
I don't know. Maybe I'm the.
Speaker 13 (50:12):
Lone ranger here, but it was a dirty hit. He
did deserve a suspension. I don't know about three games,
but he did deserve to get suspended. It didn't look good.
And I hope Trevor Lawrence turns out okay, But I
gotta get going to work. You guys have a good one.
Thanks Ryan, as soon as I can thank you.
Speaker 3 (50:27):
I appreciate.
Speaker 2 (50:27):
Let's do this, let's do let's let's go to Ryan's
philosophy in this. Then if he would have been suspended
for the punch right against Chicago, yes, would that have
changed the suspension time Lenk yesterday?
Speaker 3 (50:40):
No, I don't know. I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (50:43):
I don't think you would do that because if you
get a slap on the wrist for one game, if
you do something again, would you get a larger suspension
the next time? I think this is I think, I
think you look at it. I think Rossie, they're lucky.
He's lucky he didn't get suspended for the punch.
Speaker 3 (50:59):
Absolutely, And I would also say that I think in
here a one or two games suspension was warranted. But
you can't cry foul over three games when he's been
there's just been accruing. This pattern of behavior has continued
to happen, and the NFL has said enough, and you
add in that they're making example, and you add in
that it was against a quarterback. That's just how I mean,
(51:19):
is it fair? I would say not completely, but that's
also just how it goes. You can't cry victim when
you're the one pounding Trevor Lawrence's skull into the ground.
Speaker 2 (51:32):
Yeah, I know there's gonna there. I mean, there's gonna
be the was he made an example of the answer
is yes, we can objectively say that, but I'm telling you,
if it would have been a C. J. Stroud or
anybody else, you'd have been you know what, somebody needs
to be me an example of this sort of behavior
(51:52):
in the NFL. The way that the hit was applied
has to be stopped. And if somebody has to be
the post child for it, pray and hope it's not
one of your favorite players. In this particular case, it was.
I mean, I honestly I go I mean, I don't
mean to go back to the twenty seventeen Astros, but
there were a lot of people that got were allegedly cheating.
(52:14):
Astros were the ones that got caught. They they have
made examples of it, and then it happens in all life,
in everything, you have people that get in trouble at
work all the time and you have to give them
suspended or they have to lose accounts or that.
Speaker 3 (52:25):
I mean, that's maybe not fair.
Speaker 2 (52:27):
Of in the world of punishment, but don't you sometimes
put out harsh punishments to make sure that the rest
of your colleagues and the rest of the world knows
that this type of behavior is not going to be accepted. Now,
if this happens again, Let's say Pat Mahomes gets hit
by somebody and it's a similar type situation and there's
a similar history, and the guy only gets a one
game suspension, doesn't get it, then then I would definitely
(52:48):
stay all right. Maybe there was an agenda against.
Speaker 3 (52:50):
Alsi'sa share, but Russie, we can't.
Speaker 2 (52:53):
We can't possibly think the NFL office is like, ooh,
we got the goods and Alsi's we wait for one
more little thing for him to do and then we're
gonna really knock knock him out.
Speaker 3 (53:02):
We're really gonna punish him hard. They don't they all
got time for that. No, I don't think so. But
I think whoever is putting out these punishes like this
guy again, we got to do something about this.
Speaker 2 (53:10):
Yeah there's money. Yeah, the money situation wasn't good enough.
And so you think about this, maybe he was Maybe
the Texans caught a break by him just getting fined
as compared to the other things.
Speaker 3 (53:25):
You can say that that it all balances out that
maybe he should have been suspended a game for the
punch and then now that's the extra game on here
and it all even know, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (53:32):
I mean, I'm not trying to justify it.
Speaker 3 (53:33):
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (53:34):
I'm just saying that if you're thinking about this and
you're all like, well, wait a minute, they're using all
the other things, well, frankly, if they're using all the
other things to spend him, now, maybe it's saved them
getting to spend it.
Speaker 3 (53:43):
Earlier this year.
Speaker 2 (53:46):

Speaker 2 (56:31):
All right, Ross, we gotta beat we gotta step out
because Gordy is here to save the show again.
Speaker 12 (56:35):
I mean you invited me. I didn't create that sounder.
Speaker 2 (56:38):
I think it's a great I thinks one of my
favorite one sounder I hate. That's part of the reason
why we bring it. Brought you in is the half
of the sounder play?
Speaker 1 (56:43):
Why do you hate it?
Speaker 3 (56:45):
I just do. It's it's classic.
Speaker 2 (56:49):
Come on, we we we we value as a member
of our seven ony air team we have.
Speaker 3 (56:53):
Well, yeah, we gotta get you on her somewhere. Now.
Speaker 12 (56:55):
It's good to see Ross back where it is Texas
gear in here.
Speaker 2 (56:58):
Hoo come horns baby?
Speaker 3 (57:01):
All right?
Speaker 2 (57:01):
Now everybody has seen the top twelve or whatever, then
the thirteen forty list. Yeah, Gordy, when you first saw it,
what is your thought? And how are you thinking about
it now? And what are you thinking about what's going
to happen this weekend? However, I guess the easy question
for you is who is going to be?
Speaker 3 (57:17):
Who's me? Really super pissed off? This weekend.
Speaker 12 (57:20):
I think my Miami fans, I think SMU fans. I
think if SMU loses, they are out. And so you know,
this is on Clemson. Who you know, Clemson has been
pretty steady most of the year. They lost to George
and the opener. They had a hiccup along the way,
but you know, should have beaten South Carolina last week.
They didn't. But I think I think this this committee's
(57:45):
defiance for or insistence that Alabama belongs in. I think
it's absolutely ridiculous. But uh and look, I'm an SEC guy.
I you know, I'm through and through. I'm cool with
the SEC getting four teams in, but I don't think
Bama does be in. I mean, they're getting the respect factor,
the brand is getting the love just simply because of
(58:06):
what they've done over the years, but nobody wants to
acknowledge it, like Savan's not the coach there anymore. This
isn't the Bama teams of years past. And I'm sorry,
but two weeks ago, I just watched them get their
ass beat up in Norman twenty four to three, couldn't
find the end zone. It's put their third loss, and
yet we're still to believe this is one of the
twelve best teams in the country. I beg to differ.
Speaker 2 (58:27):
Okay, so let's let's go in that room for a second.
Tell me on the resume, what makes Alabama a three
loss team in this conversation?
Speaker 3 (58:34):
To begin with Chijing, Chijing, Chijing.
Speaker 12 (58:37):
It's money, that's all this is. This is a to
put a brand in. It's gonna get eyeballs, it's gonna
create viewership and ratings. No offense, SMU. Ain't nobody watching
the ponies. It's bad. It's Batman watch it. It's Bama.
It's it's the brand. That's all it is.
Speaker 2 (58:54):
So SMU has one loss this year to a very
good BYU football team. That's it? Now has it? How
has the acc been weekend and week out? How have
the opponent's been for SMU? Have they beaten anybody of
the chess moment?
Speaker 12 (59:08):
That's the thing. You You brought up their loss? How
about their wins? What's their best win? Pitt You know,
that's that's where you get into it. And then you go, well,
Bama b Georgia, and Bama beat l s U and
Bama beat You know that. You start you start comparing
resumes and you go, well, what's sm you have to
stand on for their best win?
Speaker 2 (59:25):
All right, so let's go through the list of the
better se ACC teams. Did b YU play Syracuse this year?
Speaker 3 (59:32):
Excuse me?
Speaker 2 (59:32):
Did SMU play Syracuse this year?
Speaker 12 (59:36):
No? Think so?
Speaker 3 (59:37):
I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (59:38):
Did b YU play Clemson this year?
Speaker 12 (59:43):
Did b Y you play Clemson?
Speaker 2 (59:45):
Keep saying B way, I'm sorry, sm get these letters
on except did SMU play SMU? Did SMU play.
Speaker 12 (59:53):
Play them Saturday?
Speaker 3 (59:54):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (59:55):
Did s MU play Miami this year?
Speaker 3 (59:58):
No?
Speaker 9 (01:00:01):
So?
Speaker 2 (01:00:02):
Where is SMU's signature victory?
Speaker 12 (01:00:04):
It's Pitt and Louisville was ranked when they played him.
Speaker 2 (01:00:08):
But that's how it doesn't do you any favors.
Speaker 12 (01:00:10):
Yeah, that's their two best.
Speaker 2 (01:00:11):
Shippert doesn't do any favors. Flora State certainly need you
know favors.
Speaker 12 (01:00:16):
I mean, this is what sucks because, like, I don't
want to discredit them. They've had a hell of a year. Yeah,
but if we're gonna start comparing like that's that's what
people people like to jump to. What's your what's your
worst loss? Well, how much did you lose by the
other argument is what's your best wins? And I think
you got to put something on a resume to say
I deserve to be in because I beat X.
Speaker 2 (01:00:35):
Okay, so if SMU loses to Clemson, they're out, you're thinking.
Speaker 12 (01:00:39):
I think so. I me, personally, I would keep them
in because I don't think BAMA watching BAMA just get
shellacked by six and six Oklahoma, who then in turn
got their SBT at LSU, Like, no, I'm sorry, you
didn't earn it, Alabama. In my point, what.
Speaker 3 (01:00:53):
If SMU said they had plane problems and they can't
get to Charlotte for the game.
Speaker 6 (01:00:56):
This year.
Speaker 12 (01:00:58):
They're gonna play. I think they can beat Clemson. If
they beat Clemson, that's a signature win and obviously they'll
get in.
Speaker 2 (01:01:05):
Well yeah, but that's a fifty to fifty proposition at
this point, right, I mean, yeah, Clemson has been there,
done that, sem this will be the biggest game they've had.
I mean, look, Indiana had one chance to prove to
the America they were good and they gotta beat badly
by Ohio State, who then lost the final week to Mission.
Speaker 12 (01:01:19):
Yeah, they're still gonna get in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:01:21):
Why is that?
Speaker 2 (01:01:22):
Can tell me why Indiana gets in over SMU?
Speaker 12 (01:01:26):
Because this committee doesn't value strength to schedule. They just
value wins. They don't care that you beat Florida International
and Charlotte.
Speaker 3 (01:01:36):
They just look at you got w's. But that's not
the case. And against Alabama though, I mean with Alabama, right,
they're getting the love just because of the brand. But
he asked, why is Indianian because they're eleven to one.
Speaker 2 (01:01:47):
Okay, mister college football, you this cannot happen Alabama. If
you're telling me if Alabama has three losses, of which
how many of them are really?
Speaker 6 (01:01:56):
Like?
Speaker 2 (01:01:56):
The Oklahoma loss is super bad, right, Theoria law the
Georgia win is their best win. Okay, and then they
beat Missouri when they were ranked, and to beat LSU
when they were ranked. Their losses were at Vandy, at
Tennessee and at Oklahoma. So I mean two of the
three losses aren't terrible.
Speaker 12 (01:02:12):
Well, Vandy and Oklahoma both finished six and six, so
my opinion, those are both bad losses. It's funny because
Ward Manual the other night that he was comparing bamat LSU.
He goes, well, Bama's three and one against teams in
the top twenty five currently, And I said, yeah, but
what's their record against six and six teams, oh and two, Like,
why are we not bringing that up? They just ignore that.
Speaker 2 (01:02:32):
So Alabama's gonna get in once once. So if SMU wins,
is there any scenario of the teams in front of
Alabama that Alabama with three losses doesn't get in.
Speaker 12 (01:02:43):
Here's the problem where they positioned them. They positioned them
at eleven. This is what's so stupid about South Carolina
that's won six in a row, is nine and three.
They just beat number twelve Clemson on the road, and
they moved up one spot. Bama turned the ball over
four times against a bad All team, beat them twenty
eight to fourteen, and moved up two spots. Bama got
(01:03:04):
rewarded for beating a bad Auburn team, So they're eleventh,
and so you can't move Bama down. I mean, they
don't play a game this week like they're gonna they
can't move out of the top twelve. In other words,
nobody behind them can jump them. Miami doesn't play a game,
they can't jump them.
Speaker 2 (01:03:20):
So here's what you need to do. Why don't we
tell these conferences don't not to play these conference championship games?
And they're like, well, that sounds great and everything, but
are we're getting paid millions of dollars by these TV
networks to play these games.
Speaker 3 (01:03:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:03:31):
And by the way, we're gonna fill up a Bank
of America Stadium in Charlotte because Semu and Clumps are
gonna play.
Speaker 3 (01:03:36):
All the Clempson fans are gonna come down and root
for my team and this team, and we're gonna make
more money.
Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
So it's frankly Rossi and and Gordia, it's a little
bit hypocrisy, these these conference championship games of the Antichrist. Well,
you're gaining the revenue from it, and you're geting the
TV ratings and you're getting the money from the networks
for it.
Speaker 12 (01:03:51):
Well, Lane Kiffin, which which way you're gonna have it?
Lanot Lane Kiffin was onto something. I mean, he made
the case a few weeks ago. Why would you want
to play for a conference championship, play another game where
risk injury and all this. I'd rather take the bye week,
host a playoff game the next way. And that's what
Tennessee is going through right now. Tennessee is like Josh
Hipel just wrapped up Siding Day. They're going through a
little bit of practice, they get a little weak to rest,
(01:04:12):
get healthy, Like it's actually a little bit of a benefit.
Who wants to go play? Like watch what happens in Texas.
Watch if they lose the conference championship and suffer a
significant loss, like when yours gets hurt or something like
they're screwed.
Speaker 3 (01:04:24):
They're like, it would be the worst thing of Quinn
got hurt. Well to you, that's true. I'm an art
I'm an arts truth.
Speaker 2 (01:04:30):
You are endorsing injuries.
Speaker 3 (01:04:31):
I'm not endorsing any wier the running back saying they
have a capable backup, so it wouldn't be the worst
thing in the world.
Speaker 2 (01:04:39):
Matt, I just thought you just texted me. Can Alzis
play for uh suit up for Georgia for Georgia this weekend?
Speaker 3 (01:04:47):
I don't think he can. No, I didn't text you that.
Speaker 2 (01:04:49):
All right, so Monday and I won't be here. But
when Gordy and you argue with Ross about this, if
you work Monday, what's gonna be the biggest complaint, What's
who's gonna be the lottest barker of all of everything?
By the way, do you see brenton your mark? The
Big twelve commissioners said, we deserve a bye. We're the
freaking Big twelve. We deserve a bye. We are, And
(01:05:12):
there's no way to know how that a Boise State
or anybody else none. P. Four should beginning to buy
over us.
Speaker 12 (01:05:19):
Well, you asked, who's gonna be the biggest complainer of
the room? Yep, Danny Canell. I mean that guy hates
the SEC so much he is going to be bitching
up up a storm about Oh, the SEC get four
teams in Miami deserves to be in.
Speaker 2 (01:05:34):
Okay, So Miami's gonna be mad. He's gonna be mad.
I think so is big As. Are you clear? Are they?
Are they good to go?
Speaker 6 (01:05:40):
There?
Speaker 12 (01:05:40):
In Indiana's in. Yeah, the big the Big ten has
got four end no matter what.
Speaker 3 (01:05:44):
So wait a minute.
Speaker 2 (01:05:45):
You were telling me you were talking about strength of schedule.
I used strength schedules terrible. They had one chance to
beat to beat their chest and they could.
Speaker 12 (01:05:51):
I agree, But they're ignoring it. They're not looking at
strength of schedule with with the other teams, all right.
I mean in Texas played the weakest strength the schedule
in the entire SEC. Ran sixteen of sixteen.
Speaker 3 (01:06:03):
Oh roushie I don't think you can get away with
that sixteen and of sixteen based on what opponent record
or something. Yeah, okay, yeah, how about you Texas, they
didn't make the SEC schedule if you want to go overboard,
they played really only two true SEC road games all
year at Arkansas at A and M, and they won them.
Speaker 12 (01:06:19):
Yeah, congrats. How about you go to Knoxville or Oxford or.
Speaker 2 (01:06:22):
Bat kyle Field so easy to win? And what else
you do it?
Speaker 3 (01:06:26):
That's that's so easy, Fandy, so easy to win? O.
How come Alabama didn't do it?
Speaker 6 (01:06:29):
Well?
Speaker 12 (01:06:29):
You you guys are aeronaud kick away from bowing that one,
but they didn't. Yeah, congrats, win is a win you took.
You took basic math and got and hey, plus we
all took algebra three and oh we got.
Speaker 2 (01:06:41):
Yeah, they they scheduled, who scheduled them?
Speaker 3 (01:06:44):
Who's on the schedules?
Speaker 2 (01:06:45):
What they didn't make it?
Speaker 12 (01:06:46):
Or medial math two point zero? Next year you get
the same schedule. Congrats?
Speaker 3 (01:06:49):
Okay again, ls, you didn't think kyle Field was so easy?
They got their ass whipped over there. Here's so you
need to think and then score a point.
Speaker 12 (01:06:57):
Joe Jammel family The Red McCombs family call them passing
dollar bills onto the Thanks for giving us the easiest
schedule at Oklahoma the toughest.
Speaker 2 (01:07:07):
Okay, yeah, Florida is so easy. That's why Lis, you
got their ASSA by Florida quarterback got their ass all right.
Speaker 12 (01:07:20):
And they're losing bleeding recruits and you're very upset. I
wish you well playing all these backup quarterbacks every week.
It's great.
Speaker 3 (01:07:26):
Thanks for the DBS. We appreciate you.
Speaker 12 (01:07:29):
Here's a spoiler. Carson Beck will not throw a pick
this week.
Speaker 3 (01:07:32):
He will not.
Speaker 12 (01:07:33):
Georgia wins big.
Speaker 2 (01:07:35):
We'll see.
Speaker 3 (01:07:38):
That's why we.
Speaker 2 (01:07:39):
Brought Gordian here. By way, Connor, do you regulate Gordion's microphone?
You know, always gets his microphone levels way high during
this spirited conversation.
Speaker 3 (01:07:46):
Yeah, I've been moving it up and down as the
volume gets louder.
Speaker 2 (01:07:49):
Man Gordion, I don't know what roster you plan for money,
but you gotta bring Gordian for Lisa segment and you
can just fight for he's busy.
Speaker 12 (01:07:56):
By the way, Texas next year gets San Jose State
UTEP and Sam Houston.
Speaker 3 (01:08:00):
No wait, is that true? What happened to Sam Houston?
Somebody was a backed out on him, and you didn't mention.
Speaker 12 (01:08:09):
One other one in Houston. Yeah, you open at Ohio State.
Speaker 3 (01:08:13):
Okay, wait a minute, you're such a fraud.
Speaker 12 (01:08:17):
You didn't bring that Upmengra.
Speaker 2 (01:08:20):
They went, they went to Michigan this year. You know
the team that beat Ohio State.
Speaker 12 (01:08:26):
Oh oh, guess what next year? You gotta go to Kentucky.
Look out, Yeah, you gotta go to Mississippi State. Oh
my game.
Speaker 2 (01:08:34):
Hold on. I was the one that was told the
SEC was the greatest conference in all times.
Speaker 3 (01:08:38):
We play eight games against the SE That.
Speaker 2 (01:08:41):
Sounds like that should be a pretty difficult the conference
in the history of conferences. So if you play eight
games in the greatest league.
Speaker 3 (01:08:49):
That sounds like it's up the deepest and best conference ever.
Speaker 1 (01:08:53):
Well, okay, you're playing.
Speaker 12 (01:08:54):
Games top half of the of the conference.
Speaker 3 (01:08:57):
I didn't make the schedule.
Speaker 12 (01:08:58):
Okay, I didn't do anything about. It's like saying I
beat Kansas and Baylor and I won the Big Twelve.
Speaker 3 (01:09:03):
Yeah, come on, it beat A and m l SU.
Couldn't get it done.
Speaker 12 (01:09:07):
Okay, great, but you didn't play You didn't.
Speaker 1 (01:09:11):
You didn't get it done.
Speaker 12 (01:09:12):
You didn't play Alabama. You didn't play all the Michigan
in Kentucky. You didn't play Miszoo Connor's Missoo would have
given you all better file.
Speaker 3 (01:09:17):
Okay, Well they didn't. They weren't on the schedule.
Speaker 12 (01:09:19):
Well that's what I'm saying. Thank you, Greg Sanky in
the SEC office. You paid them.
Speaker 2 (01:09:23):
Well, so you're saying, you're saying that money was paid
from the Texas Long Orange Athletic Department to the commissioner
in order to get this scheduled.
Speaker 12 (01:09:34):
Diamond did not. Who did of Omni? The Red mccomb's family,
The Red maccombs family gave the money family.
Speaker 3 (01:09:40):
You're saying they gave money to Greg Sanki to manipulate this,
this SEC schedule. That's what you're deny. You're an idiot.
Speaker 12 (01:09:47):
Bob Rowling is worth ten point nine billion dollars owns
the Omni. Where was SEC media days this year and
that they were in? Okay, the the law Proud Longhorn
Alum paid for that one.
Speaker 2 (01:09:59):
He paid money for. Yes, Gordy gotta love this. I
just this is like radio sex. It's how it's not
good it is that is weird.
Speaker 3 (01:10:10):
You know what I mean? No, I don't you do.
Speaker 12 (01:10:14):
God, I'm done.
Speaker 2 (01:10:16):

Come in and fight with Ross for like an hour.
It'd be good whatever it boost. So I can't fight
with you like that because my coups we we we
we first of we scheduled Big twelve competition tough, and
then we got non conference tilts like you wouldn't believe.
At we got a game at Rice, got a home
game with SFA, and then a tough trip to Oregon State.
Speaker 3 (01:10:36):
That's what I'm talking about. I'm gonna mess around, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:10:43):
Uh, let's we'll take some vote calls coming out in
a minute. We've also got I just don't get it.
In the next second of the show, as we take
this program until noon, doctor Rhode is with us at
one o'clock at the Rotten five. At one thirty, Ross,
what is today's edition.
Speaker 3 (01:10:55):
To believe or not?
Speaker 2 (01:10:56):
Today?
Speaker 3 (01:10:56):
At one to fifty.
Speaker 2 (01:10:58):
My doing that. Yes, it's back to you.
Speaker 3 (01:11:01):
I will figure I see why I ad you yesterday.
We'll figure it out, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:11:06):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven. If you just
don't get something, If you just don't get something, what
is it. We'll help you next Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 14 (01:11:24):
Do you have.
Speaker 1 (01:11:24):
Something in your life that you just don't get?
Speaker 15 (01:11:27):
No need to worry, no need to We will just
do for something. Just see if we comprehend the things
that they can use on friends. It's time to say
I just don't get it?
Speaker 2 (01:11:41):
What don't you get? Houston, Texas? That's what we're here
for Sports Talk seven ninety. We've got to call it
that once to talk about Elsie's sure, we'll get to
that as well. So Greg hank Tight, we'll get to
you in a couple of minutes. But right now I
want to ask you a very simple question. What don't
you get ross Once a year we go to or
twice a year, sometimes we go to sick.
Speaker 3 (01:12:00):
I'm in a California, the capital city.
Speaker 2 (01:12:01):
Of California, right and we see a very nice hotel
and it's with the case with all the time in
a nice hotel here in San Francisco. And I put
this on Twitter a couple of days ago. You might
have been out of you were traveling back. The shower
doesn't have a door, and the water spout gets out
of the out of the shower and it covers the
ground I can't imagine that's very healthy for the floor
(01:12:22):
in the bathroom.
Speaker 3 (01:12:23):
What are you doing in there?
Speaker 2 (01:12:25):
Are you splashing stuff all around?
Speaker 3 (01:12:27):
I'm cleaning myself off, singing a dancing?
Speaker 2 (01:12:31):
Are you twisting and shouting?
Speaker 3 (01:12:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:12:34):
I mean I'm getting zestful.
Speaker 3 (01:12:35):
Are you doing a lot of fast short motions or something?
Excuse me, I'm getting zestfully clean. Why can't I Why
can't showers and really nice hotels have doors?
Speaker 2 (01:12:50):
Hmmm?
Speaker 3 (01:12:52):
I showed you a picture on Twitter.
Speaker 2 (01:12:53):
It's you just walk in, you do your thing, and
you get I think the reason why they know the
door on it says they want your ass out of
that shower is that's humanly possible. But sometimes you do
want to take a fifteen twenty twenty five minute shower?
How long? What are you doing? The singing? Don't play
by play, the balling your eyes out, contemplating life choices?
Speaker 3 (01:13:15):
Yeah, don't you do? In your case? Maybe you drink
a beer in there sometimes?
Speaker 2 (01:13:20):
Have you?
Speaker 3 (01:13:20):
Have you you've been saying you're gonna have a shower
beer if you haven't had a shower beer yet, I've
had a shower beer. How was it? It was just okay? Well,
you're such a liar. It was fine.
Speaker 2 (01:13:29):
I mean I was like, I wasn't like, oh my god,
this is the most refreshing experience of my life.
Speaker 3 (01:13:32):
That's because you don't do any physical activity.
Speaker 2 (01:13:36):
What you're saying run probably.
Speaker 3 (01:13:38):
Just in the shower. Excuse me, what.
Speaker 2 (01:13:42):
That's blasphemy. Maybe have you ever had a shower beer,
Connor McGovern.
Speaker 3 (01:13:46):
I have? Yeah, good, it's ice cold and refreshing before
the pregame. Yeah, Matt's never lived.
Speaker 2 (01:13:55):
Oh you're telling me I have to live because I've
had one shower beer in my life.
Speaker 3 (01:13:58):
Correct, Yes, well that many among many other things. I
had a shower Long Island tea once before. And you're
also you waste meals on the GRIBs. So you say,
you just having you're not living properly.
Speaker 2 (01:14:09):
So I say to you, gentlemen, showers without doors that
close the entire shower, I say, I just don't get it.
Speaker 3 (01:14:17):
Okay, that's all I got. Thank you, Matt, Thank you.
You're welcome.
Speaker 2 (01:14:26):
Who's going next?
Speaker 12 (01:14:27):
Is it me?
Speaker 3 (01:14:28):
I don't care who goes? Go?
Speaker 2 (01:14:30):
Uh, I'm good for right now you go, Connor.
Speaker 3 (01:14:37):
Okay, Now, remember we did tell you guys, I'm censoring myself.
So give me a minute.
Speaker 2 (01:14:44):
No, No, we don't censor ourselves on the show. Censor myself. Well,
I'm not gonna I'm gonna show whatever you're trying that
you don't want to say, just say it.
Speaker 3 (01:14:54):
You'll feel so much better. No, I'm I know it's
not happening. I had something that was kind of non controversial,
but I can't remember what it was, So give me
a minute. Okay, I'll go go ahead. Connor. So, last
night I went to the Timberlake show.
Speaker 14 (01:15:11):
Oh, was with my girl. She had a purse. Didn't
think much of it. We stand in line to get
into the Toyota Center. They say the bag is too big,
So I'm like, okay, I'll be a gentleman.
Speaker 3 (01:15:22):
I'll just run it back to the car.
Speaker 14 (01:15:23):
And I did have to run because we were cutting
it close with the show open.
Speaker 3 (01:15:27):
She opens up the purse.
Speaker 14 (01:15:28):
All she has in there is her ID, credit card,
and lipstick. Why do you need a bigger bag for
just those three things that could fit in your pocket?
Speaker 3 (01:15:36):
I just don't get it. Did she have pockets? She did? Yeah, Okay.
A lot of times women complain about them, like their
clothing they don't have pockets sewn in. Yeah, she was
wearing she was wearing jeans, she had pockets. Did she
ask you to dress certainly a certain way for the
concert last night? By the way, was you guys match?
Speaker 2 (01:15:54):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:15:54):
No, she did not tell I didn't have like a
dress code or anything.
Speaker 2 (01:15:57):
No, but she didn't. Did she ask you what you're
wearing or just jeans good enough? Or should you wear
like slacks or pants or something like that?
Speaker 14 (01:16:04):
I mean what not this time, but she usually does.
She's like, oh, what are you wearing if we're going
out to dinner? Yeah, you want to match energies. Yeah, okay,
that makes sense. So yeah, bigger, bigger bag, like a
big purse for just those three little things they can
fit in your pocket.
Speaker 3 (01:16:15):
I just don't get it.
Speaker 2 (01:16:16):
So, yeah, that's a question for women.
Speaker 3 (01:16:19):
You and I. We don't have answers for these things. Wrong. Okay,
you can't help them on this. No, I got no
help I'm giving you.
Speaker 2 (01:16:26):
Would she would not wear a fanny pack in the arena?
Speaker 3 (01:16:28):
Correct? What's wrong with a fanny pack?
Speaker 2 (01:16:31):
No, there's a lot of things wrong about fanny packs. Sorry,
they're wrong, They're wrong. You know what. I just don't
get it. Why you why you get why you all.
Speaker 3 (01:16:39):
Upset about fanny packs. Packs are back. Yeah, they're way back,
Matt or across.
Speaker 2 (01:16:44):
They never should have begun to begin with. You can
do it. They're ridiculous. It looks stupid. Hey, you know what,
I guess what I was in Korea?
Speaker 3 (01:16:51):
It was cold, thousands of men wearing scarves. Zero stunning.
No on that one.
Speaker 2 (01:16:57):
I'm not surprised at all. Roman shouldn't wear scarf either.
Speaker 3 (01:17:01):
Oh my god, not good luck. You know what Matt thinks.
He knows fashion. I just don't get it. I get it.
Speaker 2 (01:17:08):
I'm going to shopping in La tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (01:17:10):
I'll be getting a lot of faskay, come back soon.
You start calling mister you see if the re ray racks, wait,
that's where I shot.
Speaker 2 (01:17:20):
So I go to roll Raby.
Speaker 3 (01:17:24):
That sounds about right.
Speaker 2 (01:17:26):
Right, all right? If you guys, something you don't get,
like this radio show, you don't get seven one three
two one two five seven n eighty seven one three
two one two five. So how was the councher, by
the way you enjoy it?
Speaker 12 (01:17:40):
It was a good time.
Speaker 3 (01:17:41):
He put on a good show. You know, he's got
a lot of hits.
Speaker 14 (01:17:43):
I was just we were kind of up there in
the Toyota Center, and our section wasn't really getting into it.
Speaker 3 (01:17:48):
I thought you were gonna. I just don't get it
that connor that people weren't dancing at the concert.
Speaker 2 (01:17:52):
So we were on the younger side, which is fine.
But you're saying everybody had busted hips and they couldn't move.
That's what you're saying. That's messed up.
Speaker 3 (01:17:58):
Come on, they have n't know.
Speaker 2 (01:18:01):
They were just sitting in their seats. I'm like, you
rock your body's playing. You can't get up and dance
to rock your body a little bit? Yeah, man, if
you're gonna, if you're gonna dance of that, shouldn't you
go to the side of this, of the section so
people can baction that don't want to dance and sit
and watch the performance.
Speaker 14 (01:18:16):
So I did think about that, but I there was
because I wanted to stand up a couple of times,
but there was people behind me. So we moved a
road down where there was nobody sitting to be like
somewhat nice, but also at the same time, like, if
I want to stand, that's on that. Like if they
want to stay seated, that's on them. They can stand
if they want.
Speaker 2 (01:18:30):
So when you were dancing with your girl, like, this
is my guy.
Speaker 3 (01:18:32):
I liked it. This is what this is what I
like about it. Yeah, she was dancing with me. Oh
that's nice. Nice, it's putting on the moves.
Speaker 2 (01:18:40):
Connor's got better game than the three of us, the
two of us, Camby and Rossie.
Speaker 3 (01:18:43):
I feel like, okay, definitely you.
Speaker 2 (01:18:48):
I haven't had games since the late nineties, so I
I don't have a need day in that.
Speaker 3 (01:18:52):
That's when you got married. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:18:53):
I was gonna say my game I retired.
Speaker 3 (01:18:55):
How about that? I need to play the game anymore.
Speaker 2 (01:18:58):
Hung them up. I'm in the Hall of Fame. Him, Well,
I don't know if you're right. I don't know if
you've got the votes. I'm in the Veterans Committee book

Hopefully you won't hang up.
Speaker 16 (01:20:58):
I mean while you're being all but he duddy about
to walk in shower, I have one in my house.
You're probably gonna have some inappropriate thoughts right now, but
I have a dual shower heads one. It's an L
shaped walk in. It's got a two foot opening. I've
got a slanted bench like it's almost like a.
Speaker 3 (01:21:16):
Recliner, but the back is slanted. It's got a drain
in the back.
Speaker 6 (01:21:19):
It's great. Man, after you're working outside all day, you
have the dual shower heads hitch in the legs and.
Speaker 16 (01:21:25):
The on the torso awesome.
Speaker 11 (01:21:27):
And what do you care you're in a hotel.
Speaker 16 (01:21:29):
It's not your house is lets splash everywhere, So that's
all good. The other thing that I don't get is
I've moved from Columbus Born there bucket list. All time
thing I want to do is go to the OSU
the team up North game and you know, they took
them too lightly. They didn't come out to play and
(01:21:49):
played like trash with my ninety year old mom. So
it's fun visiting up there. But the game sucked and
the Rockets are doing awesome.
Speaker 3 (01:21:58):
Man, I love them.
Speaker 16 (01:21:59):
Hated that they lost the Sacramento But anyways, that's all
I got, thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:22:04):
I just you know what, don't you think they opened
ship the door kind of make things colder in the shower,
don't you guys cold? Turn the heat up on the water.
Speaker 3 (01:22:13):
What do you what?
Speaker 2 (01:22:14):
Are you getting cold in there?
Speaker 3 (01:22:16):
Yeah? Now you're being ridiculous. Okay, are you showering outside?
Speaker 2 (01:22:23):
I don't know, but I just feel like a doors
that there's like in this hotel I'm in San fran
let's go as a door.
Speaker 3 (01:22:29):
There's no way. Yeah, there's no way. You're in these
five diamond hotels and you're cold in the shower, There's
no way.
Speaker 2 (01:22:36):
All right, I just I'm worried about the ground. I'm
worried about the.
Speaker 3 (01:22:41):
I think it's supposed to be it's more accessible, it's
supposed to be easier.
Speaker 2 (01:22:44):
You stroll up in there.
Speaker 3 (01:22:45):
Man, they probably got people like you breaking their doors
down all the time, and it's like a cost saving measure.
Speaker 2 (01:22:53):
I've never broken a shower door intentionally.
Speaker 3 (01:22:57):
Yeah, exactly, no, whoopsies. Yeah, I mean you have to
really be very physical in the shower and had the door.
Speaker 2 (01:23:07):
The door collapse.
Speaker 3 (01:23:09):
Probably happens in those high price hotels. All right, I
will let a lonely businessman up there. Hey, I will
never bring up again the thought of a non shower.
You can bring it up. It's fine. I've been shamed.
What did the people, what were the what were the
Twitter streets saying about it? Nothing?
Speaker 2 (01:23:27):
Nobody's listening to show to right, nobody likes to show anymore.
Speaker 3 (01:23:30):
All Right, relax, we're getting I'm back. So we're good.
Speaker 2 (01:23:34):
We're good now, and the rains are gonna good back.
There was there was two weeks of ross and I'm
not listening. Yeah, I know, for at least from my
mom and your dad too. Uh no, he's well, no,
he didn't have any options. Actually, all right, that has
been this week's edition of I just don't get it.
(01:23:55):
Thank you very much for your contributions. And again I
would just I would say, it's anybody in your house
at your house, haven't Do you have a door in
your shower.
Speaker 3 (01:24:04):
In your house?
Speaker 17 (01:24:05):
Yes, it's always bringing up No, I don't have a
shower curtain. Oh okay, well same thing basically, mm hmm okay, all.
Speaker 2 (01:24:15):
Right seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven NINTI. That's
what happens when you go out of town for a
few days. You just lose track of all things. Like
I don't live in the real world right now. I
mean this town of San Francisco where there are people
that were dodging poop on the ground every a week. Really,
Oh yeah, two people in our traveling party are ran
(01:24:37):
into sun the other day.
Speaker 6 (01:24:38):
M M.
Speaker 2 (01:24:40):
That's a shame. You know what else? I noticed in Asia?
Speaker 3 (01:24:44):
No homeless people, at least not that I saw the
neighborhood's I was at.
Speaker 2 (01:24:48):
Yeah, I literally saw.
Speaker 3 (01:24:49):
I think one in two weeks. So I mean, are
there just shelters in place?
Speaker 2 (01:24:54):
Because I mean, we can't I was gonna say, we
can't assume that everybody's some places to go, which is
I you know, for me on I don't like to
ever talk about the homeless because I I feel bad
for them, so I don't. I wish no one was homeless,
put it that way. So I don't really know what
to say about it. But yeah, it's I just don't.
(01:25:14):
We gotta we gotta get shelters in places or something.
We gotta do with something because we just can't have
we can't be dodging poop when we go to the
different cities across this country.
Speaker 3 (01:25:24):
I have nothing to contribute to it.
Speaker 2 (01:25:26):
Yeah, saying nothing, there's nothing can possibly add.
Speaker 3 (01:25:29):
Just a just a segment killer right there.
Speaker 2 (01:25:32):
Thanks Matt.
Speaker 3 (01:25:33):
I'm sorry, it's my fault. We have the news of
new coming up, thank goodness.
Speaker 7 (01:25:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:25:38):
Uh, do you want two quick news items that will
not make the news at noon please? Louis Severino signing
a deal with the Oakland A's okay, and Eric b
enemy out as offensive coordinator. And you see, la boy,
he has had a bunch of jobs.
Speaker 2 (01:25:53):
I remember when there were people screaming for Eric being
to me to be the head coach of the Texans. Yes,
did I haven't make that a gut fe way back
in the U. Actually you put your name on it.
Oh sorry, there's a reason why he never got a job.
He maybe just not very good at his job. Maybe
Andy Reid covered up for him.
Speaker 3 (01:26:14):
I mean there were some players that was Lashawn McCoy,
whoever it was, it was like, yeah, he he doesn't
treat the players right.
Speaker 2 (01:26:21):
And apparently interviews horribly too, because I mean he's had
probably what ROSSI ten ten interviews in the last ten years,
think about.
Speaker 3 (01:26:28):
It, probably, And he was supposed to reinvent himself as
the Washington Commander's O coordinator. Then he went to UCLA
and now he's out at US at UCLA, So what's next?
Is he gonna go to the high schools or what?
I don't think, So we'll see.
Speaker 2 (01:26:41):
Isn't that is that what David college Iston? Isn't David
Colley coaching high school football?
Speaker 18 (01:26:44):
Now?
Speaker 3 (01:26:45):
Well, that's fine. He's living off of that buyout money.
Speaker 2 (01:26:48):
Yeah, I think he's doing quite well. You know, Hannah's
pissed about that. She's like, I'm taking over this team
because we're paying David Kelly.
Speaker 3 (01:26:57):
Now they're good.
Speaker 2 (01:26:58):
They got Demiico Ryans even though some Jaguars don't like them.
Speaker 3 (01:27:02):
Yeah, well, I don't know.
Speaker 7 (01:27:03):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:27:04):
Some people nationally took some shots at Demko.
Speaker 3 (01:27:06):
Some said he's got his players back. Clearly Nick Cassario did,
because he was.
Speaker 2 (01:27:11):
When you drop a bs during a press converence, you
know that that he was not happy with the way
that his player was being portrayed. All right, the news
that dude's coming up next. If you'd like to join
us seven one three two one two five seven ninety

Lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show, twelve.
Speaker 2 (01:29:07):
Three out Sports Talk seven HOI. We are one hour
away from getting the best fantasy football advice you could
possibly get with a good doctor. We've also got the
Rotten Five in ninety minutes, believe it or not today
at twelve fifty. So a lot to get to between
say one to fifty today. Lots to get to here
on the radio program. But right now, as we do
at this time every time, at the noon hour, we
give you the News at noon.
Speaker 3 (01:29:31):
All right, Matt, time for the News at noon where
we took a look at some of the hot news
items of the day. Of course, we've been spending a
lot of time talking about the three game suspension for
Azase I'll shire upheld by the NFL and Ramon Foster.
The arbiter picked by both sides are approved by both sides,
(01:29:53):
by the way, so he is going to serve the
three game suspension and Aziz al Shay you're going to
miss that time. After knocking Trevor Lawrence out of the
game over the weekend, and also we do have the
comments of Jaguars rookie Jerry and Jones. Here's what he
had to say about that ejection and an interesting comment
about Demiko Ryans.
Speaker 8 (01:30:12):
Yeah, I mean that's my brother. You know, I kind
of regret that. One of the bigges things I regret
about it is getting ejected, you know from the game
that you know to be there, you know, my teammates
and stuff like that. But you know, as far as
the whole thing win, you know, that's my brother. You
know I do the same thing for all seventy guys
or however that makeup you know, Dad's organizations, so you know,
grants game of things. You can't get ejected in the game.
(01:30:34):
You know, that's just something you can't do. And I
probably don't have a help to find coming for that.
Speaker 2 (01:30:38):
But you know, Demiko Rans, you felt like you guys
ever reacted. It's how you think any team would have
reacted to their quarterback in like that.
Speaker 7 (01:30:45):
I don't even want to talk about that guy.
Speaker 3 (01:30:48):
I don't even want to talk about that guy. Matt
I cannot.
Speaker 2 (01:30:52):
But I mean, in the history of Demiko Ryans, could
you imagine this do you think Damik Orions has five
enemies in his entire life? Well, he's got at least
one in Jerry and Jones.
Speaker 3 (01:31:02):
I have like five enemies in the last hour. He's
had maybe five in his life, but.
Speaker 2 (01:31:06):
Jerry and Jones is one of them. Gosh, that was
I don't even want to talk about that guy.
Speaker 3 (01:31:12):
Hmmm. But Demiko Ryans is just taking him for his
guy did he? Did you hear any comments from Demiico
Ryans that really made you think he was out of
line or anything like that.
Speaker 2 (01:31:23):
Actually I did. I was not happy with the way
he basically said that Jacksonville overreacted.
Speaker 3 (01:31:28):
Oh that's true. I do have a problem that wasn'taction.
Speaker 2 (01:31:31):
But I didn't like that he was trying to place
more of the blame on Trevor Lawrence on Monday than
he did on Sunday after the hit that that wasn't
very important. I don't, honestly, And I think Demiko is
an excellent football coach and the Texas made the right decision,
and I'm very happy with the future of this organization.
But I think he was wrong. I think he was
I think he took two missteps in this.
Speaker 3 (01:31:50):
In this situation. I just do all right elsewhere on
the news at noon of the Golden State Warriors taking
on the Houston Rockets. This game tonight on NBA TV,
by the way, but of course here on Sports Talk
seven to ninety couple of key injuries for the Golden
State Warriors, with Draymond Green out and Stephen Curry out.
(01:32:10):
Andrew Wiggins listed as a game time decision for the Dubs.
Matt the Rockets at three and a half point favorites.
I know you can't comment on lines. Yes, it should
be a winnable game, we'll put it that way for
the Houston Rockets. Some calling it a must win game.
Speaker 2 (01:32:26):
No, no, there's not a single person in Houston calling
and a must.
Speaker 3 (01:32:29):
Know there is who is? I was tagged by Ben
de BOE's do you know what the must win game
is next Wednesday? That's the must win game because that's
the must win for you getting to Vegas. But really
that's good. That's gonna lose you money putting you in Vegas, Matt,
so you realy should be rooting for them to lose
that one. Gott I hate when you use logic on
(01:32:49):
this show. I tried to every day no, because I because, let's.
Speaker 2 (01:32:57):
Let's face it, the NBA is using Vegas as a
incentive for these guys to go. So we're gonna be
treated like kings, right, not Sacramento kings, just regular kings.
M Yeah, you don't want to be treated like Sacramento
kings generally.
Speaker 14 (01:33:13):
No.
Speaker 2 (01:33:13):
No, I mean we're not staying at like a you know,
a uh a bed booth in.
Speaker 3 (01:33:21):
No, you're gonna be fine. Yeah, where where do you
know where you would stay? I guess we could draw
that's not public knowledge. But no, I don't give me
in a nice spot.
Speaker 2 (01:33:28):
Imagine.
Speaker 3 (01:33:29):
Yeah, I mean you're not gonna be able to the bellagio?
Are you?
Speaker 6 (01:33:31):
Do you?
Speaker 2 (01:33:32):
They stay at casinos in Vegas?
Speaker 3 (01:33:33):
How does that work? I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:33:35):
That's something don't you want? Don't you want me to
experience this to give you the first experience a life.
Speaker 3 (01:33:39):
Of No, you want the first and experience exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:33:43):
You're just a conduit and a reporter or an observer
to me.
Speaker 3 (01:33:47):
You always bring it back to me. That's because I
know where you're bringing it back to. All right, maybe
it is.
Speaker 2 (01:33:54):
I want all of you to say a small prayer
next Wednesday. That would be nice. Sunday against the Clippers
would be cool, But we're all mind jet laser focused
on next Wednesday against Golden State inside Toyota Center. Okay,
Matt elsewhere in the news.
Speaker 3 (01:34:12):
Your thoughts on the Texas Longhorns, according to twenty four
to seven Sports, also on three Sports, the number one
recruiting class and all of the land in Austin, Texas.
Speaker 2 (01:34:23):
I got a question for you. First of all, congratulations. Second,
do you think that we should publicly know how much
money was spent on each nil class?
Speaker 3 (01:34:32):
Well, it's funny you say that because on three is
kind of the new kid in town with recruiting.
Speaker 2 (01:34:38):
Websites and stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (01:34:40):
But they put the average nil spending on each recruit
and next to their scores. Yeah, do you want to
know the average for the Longhorns nils all twenty four signings?
Speaker 2 (01:34:52):
All right? This is every position, right, This is from
everywhere from linemen to wide receivers to quarterbacks.
Speaker 6 (01:34:57):
Right.
Speaker 2 (01:34:59):
And they they they have firm knowledge.
Speaker 3 (01:35:01):
I don't know how from their knowledge is quite frankly,
that might be more question for Schmidt Schmorty, the resident
college football expert here, And this is pretty are estimates.
Speaker 2 (01:35:12):
I'll say two hundred and fifty thousand dollars, two hundred
and fifteen, look at you, Okay? For Texas Alabama, they
have the average recruit at two hundred and eighty thousand dollars.
Speaker 3 (01:35:23):
Same thing about for Michigan. Uh the you gotta step
up your nil game, Matt, because they have the University
of Houston Cougars at the number forty three class average
nil per Sonny forty five thousand dollars, Matt, forty five thousand. Huh,
come on, now, you gotta you got those rookie numbers
(01:35:43):
in this racket.
Speaker 2 (01:35:45):
Let me tell you when this stuff comes out, that's
going to affect future recruiting.
Speaker 3 (01:35:49):
Classes, does it not? I would say so. And by
the way, you need to uh yeah, you need to
get those numbers up. And there seems to be a
pretty direct correlation between highest recruiting class and highest average
in IL scores or money. Then let me let me
be real real with you.
Speaker 2 (01:36:05):
Then if Texas makes one hundred times more money than
you of h does, which is probably the truth, how
the hell are we ever going to compete with them?
Speaker 6 (01:36:14):
Or not?
Speaker 3 (01:36:14):
When did they ever?
Speaker 2 (01:36:17):
But I mean, at least when you didn't have im money.
You could say you could come here, you can be
in Houston.
Speaker 3 (01:36:24):
Yeah, but then the recruits are getting paid by Texas
and whoever else under the table. I mean, you know,
let's be real, Matt, the Cougars have never won a
football championship every so we don't cheat. We didn't believe
in cheating.
Speaker 2 (01:36:37):
Well, Texas, but then you were trying. I don't know this.
This nil. What it did basically is it gave the
super one hundred athletes a lot of extra cash, and
then it kind of just took care of some guys
middle of the road, I mean, mid major guy guys.
Speaker 3 (01:36:56):
I mean right, yeah, at least they're getting forty one
K instead of nothing. But it's always been a part
of college sports. I started when when I went on
my long flights, I brought a book with me. It's
a book about Jim Thorpe, you know, playing college football.
This is in nineteen oh seven, and like nineteen oh eight,
the players were being played paid under the table. Nineteen
oh eight, the players were being paid.
Speaker 2 (01:37:16):
Anut, you went on this long ass flight, yes, and
you read a book about Jim Thorpe.
Speaker 3 (01:37:21):
I read a good chunk of it. I didn't read
at all.
Speaker 2 (01:37:25):
Let's show you between the difference between you and me. Okay,
I downloaded yacht rock for my trip back to Houston
on Monday.
Speaker 3 (01:37:32):
Yes, and I'm educating myself. Really, I mean, I'm kilty.
I just.
Speaker 1 (01:37:40):
You're listening.
Speaker 2 (01:37:41):
Great, it's fine. This is an opportunity for you to
take unported shots at me.
Speaker 3 (01:37:48):
You might as well do it. No, I'm not taking
any shots. But so they played for Carlisle, which was
a native school, and they played like Prince They played
all the heavy hitters Princeton, Ohio State penned back in
those days. And yeah, they were being paid bonuses under
the table for touchdowns and stuff like that. And this
was over a hundred years ago. So it's always been
a part of the sport always. But man, now that
(01:38:08):
we're getting what is it called twenty four to seven
or is it what is it on three? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:38:11):
Three on three, it's guestimating what these what these schools
are making. It's it's further separating. It's making it basically
about and I know you're gonna say this has always
been the case, but realistically, we're talking about ten teams
every year legitimate playing for national championship.
Speaker 3 (01:38:24):
I mean playing for fun Boise States in the playoff
SMUs in the playoffs. I mean who else is.
Speaker 2 (01:38:32):
Uh, the playoffs is not going to help their nil
Indiana SMU.
Speaker 3 (01:38:38):
You've got some teams that are maybe wouldn't normally be
in the picture that are now with the expanded playoffs,
all right, No, And of course the number one team
is Oregon phil Knights. It's the Oregon phil Knights.
Speaker 2 (01:38:48):
Who, by the way, said just a couple of days ago,
I've got blank checks, whatever it takes, fill it out right.
Speaker 3 (01:38:55):
And then you got there.
Speaker 2 (01:38:56):
You got the Oracle CEO's wife saying, I'm a Michigan fan.
Blank check Michigan get take LSU recruits away by overspending.
Mm hmm, no salary cap, no payscale. You know it's
jealous about college athletics, pro athletics.
Speaker 3 (01:39:15):
Yeah, they are, all right? Is that the news at noon?
Speaker 2 (01:39:19):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:39:20):
Okay, one quick, you want some off the wall news? Absolutely?
Speaker 4 (01:39:24):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:39:25):
Josh Hart talked about the NBA Cup because we brought
this up with the Rockets and how they'll be playing
the Golden State Warriors. He was asked about winning the
five hundred K pay day if he'd be happy for
some of his teammates on two way contracts. He said, no,
I want to win because I want a damn watch.
You to watch this part of this, No, he wants to.
He's about eyeing buying a new watch. So that's why
(01:39:46):
he wants the five hundred gh get a new watch.
He doesn't care about it. And then you could hear
Jalen Brunson in the in the background calling him a bleephole.
Speaker 2 (01:39:58):
H It just means more, Ross, It just means more.
It just means more. And that, my friends, was the

from our from Texans fans have been like, why is
John Runyon making the decision? Why is the analysts on
the sideline.

For the Titans?

Speaker 2 (01:43:25):
I mean they're obviously can do it.
Speaker 3 (01:43:26):
Let's get you in there, Matt, No, I no, I think.
Speaker 2 (01:43:31):
I think these players, these coaches, these general managers want
players that to play the game right.
Speaker 3 (01:43:35):
I think so yah, because they can say in the
heat of the battle, you were there, you know exactly
what happened, blah blah blah blah. I mean yes, And
like I said, I I still can't I get it.
I didn't want to do it. For I just don't
get it. I get white people are because people are
homers and they want to defend as he's all show
here and he's our guy and all that stuff. But
(01:43:56):
I mean, you can cry a little bit foul on
on an extra game or two, but look at the play,
look at the history. Look what happened, completely understandable the
punishment that has been meted out by the NFL.
Speaker 2 (01:44:10):
So let's let's take this to the next step. I
do believe the Competition Committee is going to look at
plays like this, and there's this notion of it. I
think Tom Brady has brought this up. I think a
lot of other defensive players have brought this up, certainly
to me. Coo Ryan's did about the slide and it's
it's the attempt of the quarterback to get that one
(01:44:31):
extra yard. And look, you and I have never taken
a snap before, so we don't even know what it
would entail. But do you want to guess Ross, how
do you how do you know when to take the
appropriate slide? How do you know when to give yourself up?
And I don't have an answer for that. So for
me to try to even guess what the answer would
be would be would be foolish on my part.
Speaker 3 (01:44:52):
I do think eventually there needs to be a punishment
because like Pat Mahomes is a repeat offender of the
fake slide. He acts like he's going out of bounds
and he cuts up field. Josh Allen has done it
a bunch as well, and sometimes guys do try to
take advantage of that. It was it famously in college
at pitt can He Pikett did it the fake slide. Like,
you can't do that. That should be illegal. There should
(01:45:12):
be some sort of penalty against that because it's it's
just affording too much to the offensive side of the ball.
But at the same time, there was no fake slide
from Trevor Lawrence. He got down maybe a touch late,
but it's not like he was trying to do anything
outside of the rules of engagement in football.
Speaker 2 (01:45:32):
Yeah, I don't know, And maybe it's because there was
no juke right that he wasn't trying to fake slide
and then take off or five more years. No, No,
I could.
Speaker 3 (01:45:41):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:45:41):
I mean, the number one thing that I'm hearing is
that maybe. I mean, how do you prevent if you
were to say quarterbacks don't do this to our defensive players.
It's not fair because they're the ones running full speed.
Then what is the quarterback supposed to do? Case somebody
have the definitive answer to.
Speaker 3 (01:45:56):
This, Yeah, get a little white flag and he can
throw it on the ground and he's down. I don't
think so how about he taps his helmet, because if
you're in the middle of the field, you can't you
can't go to the sideline.
Speaker 2 (01:46:10):
And I mean, you're you're, you're. Yeah, it's easier said
than done. And if you're running a full momentum, you
can't just like stop and take a knee.
Speaker 3 (01:46:19):
It's just it's just tough. It's we keep talking about
legislating the making less violent a sport that is inherently violent.
Speaker 2 (01:46:28):
Yeah, I I really and and and and look, you
under have to understand, folks, the NFL is thinking about
this all the time. Now, whether they're doing anything about
it and thinking about are two different things. But they
have to protect the quarterback. They have to protect the
quarterback at every single level because it's the most valuable position.
(01:46:49):
There's more money being spent on in that one position
than anything else in professional football. And honestly, look at
the number of backups that are playing rossy right now.
I know Jameis Winston's got a little bit of a resurgence,
but Jameis Winston still who Jameis Winston is. He throws
three touchdowns, he throws three interceptions. Do you want Mac
Jones playing fifteen weeks the season?
Speaker 14 (01:47:09):
No?
Speaker 12 (01:47:10):
No, you don't.
Speaker 2 (01:47:10):
You want Garner Menshew getting significant playing time?
Speaker 6 (01:47:13):
No? No.
Speaker 2 (01:47:15):
You're paying for your stars and they have to and
they're going to be protected unlike anybody else. And even
though Trevor Lawrence has been I think to me largely disappointing,
he's still a guy that is considered the most.
Speaker 3 (01:47:28):
Important part of that Jacksonville Jaguars franchise.
Speaker 2 (01:47:30):
If the Jaguars are to be good in the next
couple of years, they need Trevor Lawrence on the field.
Mac Jones is never gonna get them there. Just like
in the Texans case, if C. J. Stroud was to
go down for any length of.
Speaker 3 (01:47:39):
Time, the Texan season is over because Money Mills is
not money. Yeah, it's it's totally understandable. It's unfair in
ways and how they protect the quarterbacks now you can't
hit them and all that type of stuff. But the NFL,
at the end of the day, is about making money.
And by making money, you put a good product on
the field to get a lot of points, and that
(01:48:00):
by that you need quarterbacks. So what if he dove?
What if he instead of slid forward?
Speaker 2 (01:48:07):
And then and so then let's again, I'm far from
a football extra the nose, So outside you're gets to Trevor,
and Trevor dives. Then you're talking about forearmed a head
and so you're not really avoiding what you're trying to
do here.
Speaker 3 (01:48:26):
You're thinking the slide prevents.
Speaker 2 (01:48:29):
The leg I mean the legs going down, so the
player can go after the legs as compared to the
shoulder pads and above right, Yes, because I'm trying to
empathize with the defensive player.
Speaker 3 (01:48:43):
What is he The easiest argument is is what is
he supposed to do? He's supposed to pull up there
or not lower the boom on him.
Speaker 2 (01:48:56):
And I do believe ross if we took games we
watch slides, you're seeing more players pulling.
Speaker 3 (01:49:01):
Up, are we not?
Speaker 2 (01:49:02):
You're seeing That's the thing. Like I think we are analyzing.
Speaker 3 (01:49:07):
We're looking at this one tree and being like, oh man,
you know, uh as far as against the forest as
the tree is the analogy I'll make it. You were
looking at this one tree and we're like, man, he
you know, what is he supposed to do? But we
see this one hundred times every week and players do
pull up. They do have the capacity to win. A
player slides. They don't just do what Aziz alsha here does.
(01:49:28):
Their quarterbacks slide one hundred times a weekend. And and
what Aziz alsha here did is out of the ordinary.
Speaker 2 (01:49:35):
It is We're not we're not having these collisions on
a weekly basis, well just not.
Speaker 12 (01:49:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:53:14):
Thanks for holding good afternoon.
Speaker 9 (01:53:17):
Hey guys, Ross, I'm glad you could make it back
without without any cuff marks or anything crazy.
Speaker 3 (01:53:24):
Thank you.
Speaker 9 (01:53:25):
And somehow and somehow, I'm not surprised that the one
calling for discipline and in fightly outraged also supports no consequences.
Speaker 3 (01:53:36):
You so no consequences?
Speaker 9 (01:53:39):
What you university? University of Texas, the University of zero consequences.
Speaker 11 (01:53:46):
Zero consequences for one throwing bottles on the field.
Speaker 3 (01:53:50):
Oh, I didn't condone that activity. Did you think I
said it was? Did I say it was awesome for
them to throw bottles on the field?
Speaker 9 (01:53:57):
No, But you support Texas and I'm just I.
Speaker 3 (01:54:00):
Support everything that they do. I don't support the fans
in the student section, and yeah, throw it. It was embarrassing.
Speaker 2 (01:54:06):
It was a terrible look for the program and for
the students, and apparently come out that they're not going
to be punished at all, which is kind of surprising me.
Speaker 3 (01:54:13):
That's crazy to me.
Speaker 9 (01:54:14):
That's that's absolute insanity that they are unable to identify
any of the perpetrations. Come on, man, anyway, I'm just
trying to buster chops a little bit. But like, as
far as this Trevor Lawrence saying goes, as soon as
I saw it happen, Like the second I saw it happen,
my brain went, there needs to be a halo rule.
That's the only way that you can solve this entire problem.
(01:54:34):
Has to be a halo rule. And I'm thinking the
best way to do it is five yards after the
line of scrimmage, same as you would do a legal
contact with the receiver. After a quarterback is five yards
beyond the line of scrimmage. If a defender gets close
to them within like a one yard two yard halo,
the play's over. Quarterback gives himself up. Nobody needs to
touch each other, nothing, just in the play. Otherwise you're
(01:54:56):
gonna have this because I don't think that as these
really did anything that bad. I don't think that they're
leading with the form. What was he supposed to do?
Was he supposed to be like like a centaur and
go in with his chest?
Speaker 2 (01:55:07):
I mean, one pure Steve. Let me ask you a question,
just for a second, Alex, excuse me. How many football
do you watch a lot of football?
Speaker 3 (01:55:18):
I mean during the season. Yeah, I mean, I'm not
going out of my way to you know, but I.
Speaker 2 (01:55:22):
Mean when you watch a football game. Are we seeing
slides like this all the time?
Speaker 3 (01:55:26):
In the NFL?
Speaker 2 (01:55:27):
The answers, of course we are. We're seeing this on
a very regular basis. Quarterbacks are taking the opportunity to
give themselves up. How many times are we seeing these
types of visis hits we're not seeing very often. To
be brutally honest, that's the thing.
Speaker 9 (01:55:41):
The outlier is the quarterback that decides he wants to
get an extra yard or two. All of the other
quarterbacks that we don't have this problem with, all of
the other incidents of the slides that don't have this issue.
The quarterback has given himself up. The defender has time
to acknowledge, Okay, this play is about to be over
because he's sliding and I can see it and my
brain is processing it. Trevor got what he deserved. Dude,
(01:56:04):
if you're trying to get that right yard?
Speaker 3 (01:56:06):
What what I didn't know?
Speaker 2 (01:56:09):
You're not watching the same thing the rest of us
are watching. You're you're You're even the.
Speaker 3 (01:56:13):
Minority on this.
Speaker 2 (01:56:14):
The NFL, who does this for a living, is saying
you're completely wrong.
Speaker 9 (01:56:20):
Completely I disagree. I disagree. Look whenever you.
Speaker 2 (01:56:25):
Three games, where do you see the logic in what
you're saying is what the majority of people are seeing.
Speaker 9 (01:56:33):
I think that Trevor waited too long a side. If
you don't want to get hit, slide sooner, you got
to protect yourself. It's just like you put yourself in
that situation and bad things happen. Right, you go to
you're one of those kids with the broccoli hair, and
you go to those car takeovers and they take over
the middle of the intersection and start drifting and you
get hit by a car. You brought that on yourself, Dude.
(01:56:55):
You put yourself in a bad situation and bad things
are going to happen. You wait until the very in
to slide, You're gonna get hit. If you don't want
to get hit, put the ground.
Speaker 6 (01:57:06):
Bet.
Speaker 2 (01:57:08):
I can't believe that Trevor Lawrence is saying, you know,
what what can I do to get the one extra yard?
That every other quarterback is not thinking the exact same thing.
Isn't isn't every quarterback trying to get every yard humanly
possible then to start the slide because he feels like
this is the spot to do it. Are you telling
me that Trevor Lawrence has a different philosophy about the
(01:57:29):
slide than other quarterbacks who slide on a weekly basis
and don't get hit like that are going through?
Speaker 3 (01:57:34):
Is that?
Speaker 9 (01:57:35):
Well, then he executed it poorly. I don't know. I
don't know what to tell you.
Speaker 2 (01:57:40):
I'm gonna tell you is that is the National Football League,
who watches this stuff over and over again, completely disagrees
with what your sentiment is, does not say the same
thing they're seeing.
Speaker 9 (01:57:50):
Well, yeah, they have an investment to protect they they're
definitely more interested in the financial side of it than
the competitive side of it, a players safety side of it.
Speaker 2 (01:57:59):
I mean, again, I'm watching You're telling me that every
single game that doesn't have this problem is because the
quarterbacks and I want to take to start to slide earlier.
You're telling me that Trevor was the outlier on this.
I don't believe it to be accurate. That that's just me.
Speaker 9 (01:58:15):
I mean, it's just it's it's a fact.
Speaker 3 (01:58:18):
If you don't say no, no, no, no, it's not
a fact.
Speaker 2 (01:58:22):
The fact is the National Football League looked at this
probably five hundred times and said the way that Alshaire
went after him with the forearm with the slide in
play was illegal and forced an ejection and a subsequent suspension.
Speaker 3 (01:58:39):
That's the fact.
Speaker 9 (01:58:40):
Well, there's not a whole lot to argue on that
point there. I mean, it is what it is. He
I'll show you hit him, I'll show you're led with
e elbow or the forearm or whatever. But at the
same time, if you watch this thing in slow motion,
Trevor starts his slide after alshi years kind of already committed.
Speaker 3 (01:58:57):
To hit him.
Speaker 9 (01:58:58):
And at the same time, if you're going down and
I'm going forward to to make a tackle or to
make a hit, what am I?
Speaker 18 (01:59:05):
How?
Speaker 9 (01:59:05):
How was also you're supposed to hit him with? His
options were leaving my.
Speaker 2 (01:59:10):
Question why are other Why are other players in the
Nastionville Football League able to do this?
Speaker 9 (01:59:14):
And I'll share because they get down faster, bro, But
that's it's that way you're you're.
Speaker 6 (01:59:18):
Painting with it.
Speaker 2 (01:59:19):
You're telling me that every single quarterback except Trevor Lawrence
goes down the approbably the right time, every single time.
Speaker 3 (01:59:26):
I don't believe it to be accurate. I can't believe
that Trevor.
Speaker 2 (01:59:30):
Lawrence all of a sudden said I'm gonna be rogue
about this and I'm going to try to circumvent the
system and take and use it from my advantage.
Speaker 9 (01:59:37):
Yeah, because Trevor Lawrence is well known for making great
decisions on the field.
Speaker 2 (01:59:40):
Right now, now, you're just generalizing.
Speaker 9 (01:59:43):
I mean, come on, I mean that Matt you're not
Matt He made a bad choice. He made a bad
choice in.
Speaker 3 (01:59:49):
That moment, a bad choice. He took his form. He
wanted to hurt him. That's that's the bad choice. That's
the bad choice.
Speaker 9 (01:59:56):
Absolutely, I'll show you definitely if he could go back,
he called, we wouldn't do it the same way. But
why would Trevor waited until the very last second to
get down.
Speaker 2 (02:00:08):
I don't think anybody sees it that way. I think,
I think, I think, and thank you for the phone
called good debate. I think diehard Texans fans are singing
it that way. I think nobody else is sing it
that way. You said, well, I listened to Mark Shuller.
Speaker 3 (02:00:20):
There are timers. Look, that's what I'm saying. It needs
to be reviewed.
Speaker 2 (02:00:26):
But what is indisputable is is that this is happening.
These types of players are happening week in and week
out in the NFL, and we're not running into these
situations unless you're telling me, Unless you're telling me every
single time that quarterbacks are on the NFL are sliding
in the appropriate time, and that Trevor Lawrence is wrong.
(02:00:48):
If you're guaranteeing me that, then I will, then I
will that will change my stance. But if if we
sat there and took a stop watch and watched thirty
other games, are you telling me that Trevor Lawrence took
liberties that other NFL quarterbacks don't do. If you're telling
me that, then okay, it's Trevor Lawrence's fault.
Speaker 3 (02:01:08):
I just can't see that.
Speaker 2 (02:01:11):
I just I don't see where you're putting the onus
on Trevor Lawrence to go, well, take it at earlier.
It's your fault. I just I can't find blame in
Trevor Lawrence. I can't, just like I wouldn't find blame
if CJ. Stroud, I mean if other fans will you
if you you know, because CJ. Stroud likes to run.
(02:01:33):
It's not a favorite part of his game, but he'll
do it if necessary. If y'all really think that Trevor
Lawrence is the guilty party in this, I'm just seeing
it differently than you are. And thankfully I got the
NFL side on this one. I got an appellate board
on my side on this one, and I got the
NFL Review Committee on it. And I've got other games
(02:01:54):
where this doesn't happen. This is not happening on a
weekly basis. This is not happening every single week. Is
it happening before it will happen again? Yes, but there
are way too many other games that you can watch
on a Sunday where quarterback slides and maybe some are
trying to get the extra maybe they're not, but we're
still seeing the defensive player's ability.
Speaker 3 (02:02:16):
To avoid such collisions. Ross you want to anything else,
I think you got it pretty well wrapped, Matt, I
just don't understand. Yeah, like I said, in a vacuum,
if we're looking at this one play, maybe you can
convince yourself that as he is asha here, there was
nothing he could do. But if you what you look
at the NFL, you look at the dozens of these
plays that happen every weekend, and this is one of
(02:02:36):
the rare cases where it ends up like this. It's
to me, it's not an accident.
Speaker 2 (02:02:42):
Seven one three two one two five seven unting. We'll
get to more of you in a moment. Seven one
three two one two five seven untying. Our time is
the twelve forty four Doctor Roto going to join us
at the top of the hour. I want to say
about love Volleyball. League One of Volleyball is a brand
new league of professional volleyball coming to Houston in January.

my family does, and you want to watch some of

Speaker 5 (02:03:41):
Coach Bumphillips said, you fail all the time, but you
aren't a failure until you start blaming someone else.
Speaker 3 (02:03:50):
Or now pitch for the A's. Hey, this is Mike Fires.
Speaker 14 (02:03:54):
Sometimes I'm getting fired up for more Houston sports Talk.
Speaker 3 (02:03:57):
Back to Matt Thomas on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (02:04:05):
Tipton, We got roto coming up in ten minutes. I
do want to say one more thing, Ross, is this
unfair to the defensive player. There's a large party that says, Yes,
there's a large party that says, you're asking a defensive
player to go full throttle, to go make a stop
on a player, and then all of a sudden he
(02:04:25):
has to figure out a way to give himself up
to make sure he avoids it. I mean, it's it
seems like it would not be the easiest thing in
the world to just turn it off and on, like
we were talking about a minute ago. But the reality is, Ross,
the quarterback is the most important player in the football field,
and the NFL is gonna do everything and it's power
to protect them.
Speaker 6 (02:04:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:04:45):
The way that you make the NFL as a as
a defender or a linebacker is you have a lot
of instinct. You fly around the field and there is
a certain defensive edge a lot of players have, at
least like he's all show here, one of the nicest
you hear all the beat writers talk about one of
the nicest human beings on the planet. But when he
steps in between those lines, he has an edge about
(02:05:07):
him and he needs to have that edge that's how
you get to the success. That's till you get to
this level, and it is very difficult to turn off.
And I do sympathize with Aziz alsha Here, and I
understand what people are saying about, you know, certain quarterbacks
like Pat Mahomes and Josh Allen who he's brought up
in others who kind of fake slide. And I do
think that there needs to be something that the league
needs to address that and do something about it. But
(02:05:28):
at the end of the day, Trevor Lawrence didn't fake slide.
Could he have maybe, but until we have some evidence
that he's gonna do that all the time, if you
see him pulling up, you have to do the same.
And rather than doing that, Aziz alsha Here, in my opinion,
tried to did he accomplished what he was trying to do.
He was trying to knock Trevor Lawrence out of that
(02:05:48):
game because I can't.
Speaker 2 (02:05:50):
Let's let's do this. If you're gonna put the onus
on the quarterback? Is the official supposed to say, ladies
and gentlemen, that hit was legal. In my opinion, Trevor
Lawrence tried to take an extra yard. I don't see
how that could possibly happen. I don't see how you
could regulate that in the middle of a football game.
When was he supposed to slide too late of a
(02:06:13):
slide offense number seven ten yard penalty?
Speaker 3 (02:06:15):
I mean, I don't know. Yeah, a few years ago
the NCAA with that fake slide that Kenny Pickett did,
which was more egregious than what we've seen as well.
They said, once you start to go down like that,
the play is dead. The play needs to be blown dead,
and they need to do the same thing in the NFL.
I would agree.
Speaker 2 (02:06:32):
Charles on seven ninety and twelve fifty one, Charles, thanks
for holding good afternoon.
Speaker 3 (02:06:37):
Good afternoon, y'all.
Speaker 19 (02:06:38):
Actually just said exactly kind of segued right into what
I was going to say. I grew up in an
era where you had players like Jack Tatum and those
guys who literally tried to decapitate a man when they
hit him, and that was kind of what I saw.
Speaker 3 (02:06:57):
I mean, did Trevor Lawrence slide late? Absolutely?
Speaker 19 (02:07:01):
Would it have been tough to stop and not hit
him at the point where he did. Absolutely, But if
he hadn't been loading up getting ready to decapitate him.
It wouldn't have been a personal foul in my opinion.
Speaker 2 (02:07:21):
Yeah, we'll leave with that. Thanks for the phone call,
appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (02:07:24):
You know I got I don't know the I don't
know what the it was the intent for Alsheer to
take him out. I think so only one person will
know that, right, Only one person can Only one person
knows that, and that person is already playing the victim
guards so.
Speaker 2 (02:07:42):
And that person has had a history of late hits,
punching players in the face players. I mean, it's it's
this isn't a this is not a first time offender.
But this is a evidence building case that obviously the
NFL had on their radar. As I said the first
hour of the show, frankly, a lot of people are saying, well,
(02:08:04):
why are they finally suspending them now? They should have
spent him earlier.
Speaker 3 (02:08:07):
Think about it.
Speaker 2 (02:08:07):
If it had suspended him for stuff early in the year,
maybe the punishment today would have been significantly more difficult,
more of a penalty, because there would have been presidents
to say, we've already suspended you once you didn't learn
your lesson. Now here's a bigger one. So maybe the
NFL strangers. This may sound may have been doing that.
I'll share a favor by just giving him a fine
(02:08:28):
Let's go to talk to Tom in Victoria, twelve fifty
five on seven ninety Tom, Good, afternoon to you.
Speaker 9 (02:08:35):
Hey guys, I got two points to make.
Speaker 3 (02:08:40):
Go ahead.
Speaker 9 (02:08:40):
How bad that we get.
Speaker 18 (02:08:43):
A voice activated LED light system on the helmet and
the jersey of the quarterback and when he attends to slide,
he screamed like a thirteen year old cheerleader to activate it.
Speaker 7 (02:09:08):
Putting of that.
Speaker 2 (02:09:11):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety. If
you want to join us on the show today seven
one three two one two five seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (02:09:22):
Catcher at the catch Tom at the open mic night
later this week.
Speaker 2 (02:09:28):
By the way, I got today's Facebook real update for me.
I saw Zach Galifanekis's first ever national TV appearance when
he was on the Late Show with David Letterman.
Speaker 3 (02:09:36):
Uh huh. He was hysterical. Yeah, he's he's a funny comedian.
He is, really, I don't realize how funny he is now.
I do good.
Speaker 2 (02:09:48):
You're late, Matt, like twenty years late. No I knew
who he was, but just I never had never seen
that clip before. Have you ever seen them? Between the
two ferns? No series?
Speaker 3 (02:10:00):
Watch those? That was that I'm planning in the background,
saying so good? Why is planning at the office worling?
What do you mean he's out here grinding, putting in
the hours working. There's no chance. Everybody not everybody's just
kicking their feet up in five diamond hotels and hanging
out and complaining about open showers.
Speaker 2 (02:10:19):
How do you know where my feet are right now?
Speaker 6 (02:10:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:10:21):
They're kicked up, one of them is.
Speaker 6 (02:10:25):
God?
Speaker 2 (02:10:25):
Seriously, you are you filming me that you don't even
know this? I just sometimes, man, I know you better
than you know yourself. God, this is pissing me off.
Speaker 3 (02:10:34):
I can't believe you know one of my legs is
kicked up? Terrible? All right, what is believe or not?
Speaker 6 (02:10:43):
Today?
Speaker 3 (02:10:44):
I'll figure it out. I gotta look.
Speaker 2 (02:10:47):
You get three minutes off.
Speaker 3 (02:10:49):
Yeah, I know, I gotta believe it or not and
I gotta do Rotten five.
Speaker 2 (02:10:52):
Well, you got a lot of work ahead, so to do,
is doctor Roto. He'll join us to start the next
hour The Bat Thomas Show with Ross. I'm in San
Francisco and I'm not put one of my legs down
that make you feel better?
Speaker 3 (02:11:02):
Ross seriously shame yes like that terrible.
Speaker 2 (02:11:06):
Seven one three two one two five seven seven one
three two one two five seven HOI rot is next.
Speaker 1 (02:11:14):
Lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 12 (02:11:31):
Waiver claims.
Speaker 20 (02:11:34):
Have to be made, and I've got trade proposals fly
in my way.
Speaker 1 (02:11:44):
My first round pig.
Speaker 2 (02:11:47):
Turned out to be a big flop.
Speaker 3 (02:11:51):
I don't know which.
Speaker 20 (02:11:52):
Wide receiver I need to drive. Doctor wrote gave me
the new Who's. I really don't know what else you do.
My quarterback keeps getting sacked. I've got a bad keith
of fair deceive me.
Speaker 2 (02:12:15):
It is the fastest thirty minutes in major Brocket Radio,
the one the only Doctor Roto with his own sports
talk seven ninety Good Doctor. We have the Packers and
the Lions tonight, super sexy matchup in both teams practicing
a normal week. They both played the previous Thursday, so
we should get I would think top five performances from
(02:12:36):
both teams.
Speaker 6 (02:12:38):
I think we're going to see as highest scoring a
Thursday game as we've seen in quite some time. Emptyam
really so right now? I think this game is like
fifty one and a half. But there's a lot of injuries.
It seems like every time the Lions play, they get
another two or three guys injury on the defensive side.
And the Packers have their injuries as well. So look,
(02:12:59):
here's what people may think of. You think of the
of the Lions as a poor as a good run defense,
which they are, a bad pass defense, which is true,
and they play a lot of man coverage. Christian Watson
gonna score tonight. He's gonna find a fifty yard bomb.
Dantavian Wicks is gonna is gonna play well tonight. I
don't love Jane Reed. He might be the receiver I
(02:13:20):
don't like because he thrives against his own coverage, which
you know the Lions don't tend to play. So keep
an eye on Love, keep an eye on Christian Watson,
keep an eye on Wicks. On the other side, Amal
Rossain Brown, this is his game. He's gonna be fantastic tonight.
And of course we love the Lions running game. And
if you have Jared Goff, you start Jared Goff.
Speaker 3 (02:13:38):
All right.
Speaker 2 (02:13:38):
That game is indoors Detroit. We saw the weather situation
last week between San Francisco and Buffalo and we're gonna
start focusing on that are Look, we're always looking at
weather forecast, But tell me about how last week turned
out for both of those teams. Did it? It didn't
feel like it impacted Buffaloes when it came to fantasy.
Is that correct?
Speaker 6 (02:13:59):
No, not at all. I mean, Josh Allen did something
that was pretty amazing, right. He caught a pass that
he threw, passes, he ran, he ran, He did everything,
and so did James Cook. They had traction. It was
like they knew the right cleats to wear. Sometimes when
teams don't play in this type of weather, they don't,
they have to change their cleats at halftime. You do that,
you're down by twenty points. At halftime, the game is over.
(02:14:19):
So the Bills. The Bills are really a great regular
season team. We know that it's in the playoffs where
they tend to fail. Maybe that changes this year. I
hope it does for their sake. I'd like to see
Josh Allen go far. I mean, right now, San Francisco'm
gonna give you a guy. If Isaac Grendo is available,
you have to pick him up asap. First of all,
(02:14:39):
we know McCaffrey's out, Jordan Mason's going to be placed
in the ir any minute now. Grendo's their starter, and
he's going to get twenty five touches. He ends a bad,
bad Chicago run defense.
Speaker 2 (02:14:49):
Speaking of bad, the Jets are horrific. Aaron Rodgers is
worried about, maybe in that may mint publicly but privately,
about his future. Is there any possibility he wants to
build the resume the last couple weeks of the season
to make him whether he's a Jet next year or
somewhere else, that.
Speaker 3 (02:15:06):
He's got it left?
Speaker 2 (02:15:06):
And does that mean because we've got some bye weeks,
last week of bie weeks this week, any thought of
sneaky Jets numbers spiking this week.
Speaker 6 (02:15:17):
I like what you're thinking. I like where you're going
with that. I think Aaron Rodgers may play one more season.
I don't think he's playing in New York for one
more season, but I do think he's playing for one
more season. I don't know where he ends up, but
you may be right. This is a time to pad
the stats, maybe get another I don't know, seven eight
touchdowns the rest of the way, which means he could
get to this week I think the Dolphins are a
(02:15:37):
better team. But I think the Dolphins are There was
rumors that after the game, after they got slacked against
Green Bay, that they're doubting Mike McDaniel. It's a big
so this is a big referendum game. What's going on
with Miami, what's going on with the Jets could be
a little messy. I tend to stay away from messy
games for fantasy. But John new Smith is fantastic, Devona
(02:15:59):
Chan is fantastic. I'm gonna fade Waddle. I'll play Tyreek
Hill on the other side. Give me all the Garrett
Wilson I can find, and of course Breese Hall.
Speaker 2 (02:16:08):
I know Kirk Cousins wants to go back to Minnesota
and prove that they should have spent the money on him,
whether that was.
Speaker 3 (02:16:14):
Ever going to happen or not.
Speaker 2 (02:16:16):
Tell me what it's like for quarterbacks and revenge games
going to the place they were last season, And what
do you expect between Atlanta and the Vikings.
Speaker 6 (02:16:24):
You know, I love a revenge narrative. I just don't
know if it fits here. Cousins is not mobile and
the Vikings are gonna blitz him, and if there's Anybody
that knows Kirk Cousins is Brian Flores. And I think
the problem is Kirk Cousins is a master against man coverage.
Vikings throw a lot of blitzing and they have a
lot of his own coverage. It's just not a great
fit for him. I would think, I'm gonna say this,
(02:16:44):
I'm gonna go I'm gonna give you a bold statement.
If they lose this week, Michael Pennox may be the
starter next week. And I know, look, yeah it's possible. Look,
Kirk Cousins the last three games, zero touchdown, six interceptions.
You don't make the playoffs that way. And the Falcons
see themselves as a playoff team. I think most people
see them as a playoff team. You're bringing Cousins, you
bring him, not Judan, and your team is you know,
(02:17:06):
mid it's a five hundred team. Michael Pennix got mobility
and he's got a laser beam for an arm, so
maybe you give him a shot.
Speaker 2 (02:17:16):
Your takeaways from Cleveland to playing that game Monday night
in Denver, Jamis Winston, big yards, big touchdowns, also threw
some picks in terms of teams that are under five hundred,
not going the playoffs, but could be sneaky acquisitions. Do
we want to load up on Cleveland players or is
it Pittsburgh defense so stout that they're going to have
a tough time putting up yards against them.
Speaker 6 (02:17:36):
I think there should be a ride at Universal called
the Jamis Winston Experience. Right. It just takes you up,
it takes you down, takes your left taxtion right, kind
of makes you crazy because the dude will throw for
three hundred and fifty yards. He'll throw for three touchdowns,
and they'll throw for three interceptions too, of which are
picked sixes. But there's something about him. Guys love him,
they like that, they play hard for him. He's not
afraid to throw it, as a lot of quarterbacks are.
(02:17:59):
I think Jamis is playing for a starting job somewhere,
and it may just very well be back in Cleveland.
Deshaun Watson's never right again. So look, if there's any
guy on this slate who can throw for three hundred
and fifty yards this week, his name is Jameis Winston.
I think he got to give them a shot. I
know Pittsburgh has got a good defense, but I don't
know if it even matters. I think Jamis doesn't stop
throwing regardless.
Speaker 2 (02:18:20):
All right, if you want to get with doctor Ronald
will be taking your calls shortly at seven one three,
one two five seven ninety seven to one three two,
one two five seven nine zero. I'm looking at the
slate of games this week sucks. I mean we got Jacksonville, Tennessee.
Who cares Vegas at Tampa Bay. Eh, Carolina's gonna go
to Philadelphia, I mean blowout city. I mean there's gotta
(02:18:44):
be some sneaky selection somewhere in these dog games.
Speaker 3 (02:18:46):
Give me, give us a couple of names.
Speaker 6 (02:18:49):
I think they're better games than you think they are.
Seattle against Arizona. The winner of that game could be
the NFC West champion. The Bills and Rams. Bills want
to get a bye and the Rams are clinging onto
their playoff hopes. But I can give you some love
in the other games. Saquon Barkley want to be the MVP.
Put up one hundred and eighty yards and two touchdowns
on the Panthers. Buccaneers. You want to make the playoffs,
(02:19:11):
you better win at home. And Brock Bauers may be
one of the greatest tight ends we've seen. I mean
What a rookie season for this dude. I can watch
him all day. And the Jaguars Titans. Look, it's the
Calvin Ridley revenge narrative game, and look the Jaguars stink.
But Will Levis has actually been better and Tony Pollard
has been sensational. Between Pollard and Ridley, there's elements of
(02:19:34):
something going on in Tennessee. They just need more stability,
better defense. But I mean that game could surprise and
be higher scoring than people think.
Speaker 2 (02:19:42):
Sunday afternoon, the Bears are at San Francisco. The Niners
have to be the most underperforming team right now in
the Nfcno perty has been in and out, but.
Speaker 3 (02:19:50):
They look like they look liftless, listless. Against the Bills. Again,
the weather didn't help the cause.
Speaker 2 (02:19:57):
They've got to basically play perfect football the rest of
the way I think to win that division. So does
that mean we should stack heavy against the Bears Against
the Bears or do we want to stay away from
their defense?
Speaker 6 (02:20:08):
Well, look, I'm more interested in watching the Bears this
week than I am the forty nine ers because the
Bears are playing a little better. Got rid of their coach, right,
Matti Eberfluss, who basically lost them that game on Thanksgiving.
You know, this new coach is saying all the right things,
and I think they're going to come out and play
for him. And if they do, San Francisco's right for
the picking. Everybody's injured on San Francisco. It's hard to
(02:20:30):
watch them right now. So look, am I interested in
Caleb Williams? I am? Am I interested in DeAndre Swift? Yes?
Am I interested in DJ Moore? Absolutely?
Speaker 11 (02:20:39):
So.
Speaker 6 (02:20:39):
I think there are bears you can play in fantasy.
On the other side, I mentioned Isaac Garndo. You play him,
George Kittle, you play him, Deebo Samuel, you play him.
And Juan Jennings has been really good. I don't like
the matchup for him stylistically in terms of they play
his own coverage that he doesn't thrive in. But he's
been really good thus far this year. And it's hard
to Benham at this point.
Speaker 2 (02:21:00):
All Right, Dallas has got a couple of wins under
their belt. They still can't do anything at home. Bengals
have underperformed big time as well. How does I mean?
I always look at the numbers for the Bengals and
they're putting up huge numbers, but they're not scoring victories.
But for fantasy vooteal purposes, we don't care about that.
So do we remain bullish on all the Bengal players
(02:21:21):
going to Dallas this week?
Speaker 6 (02:21:23):
I think we were in bullish on this game in
its entirety. So, first of all, Zach Taylor could get
whack and is his fall entirely I don't know. But
the defense is bad. I mean even Jamar Chase said
that the offense feels like it has to score every
time they have the ball if they want to win.
So you're starting Joe Burrow, You're starting Jamar Chase, You're
starting t Higgins, You're starting Chase Brown, who's been a
(02:21:43):
revelation this year. On the other side, would you be
shocked if I told you Dallas has an outside chance
of making the playoffs. I mean they got three games Cincinnati, Carolina,
and Tampa. If they win next free games, yeah, then
they have Philadelphia and Washington in the last two games.
If they go one and one, they might actually make
the playoffs. Cooper Rush has been good. I think you
(02:22:05):
play him. Rico Dowdell has been great. I think you
play him, and Ceedee Lambing play and then Jake Ferguson
is coming back this week. I expect him to play.
Cincinnati has been horrific against tight ends, and Jake Ferguson
could be a sneaky start too. So I think if
you want to talk about explosive games, if you have
any players left on Monday night, you could win your
week this week.
Speaker 2 (02:22:26):
All right, now, we'll start taking your phone calls for
doctor Rodo here on Sports Talk seven ninety seven to one,

Speaker 3 (02:24:18):
Five, coming up in about ten minutes from now.
Speaker 2 (02:24:22):
Worst teams in the NFL One man handles that responsibility
weekly on this.
Speaker 3 (02:24:27):
Show when he's here Sports Sports Harving.
Speaker 2 (02:24:29):
We take your phone calls now for the Good Doctor.
On Sports Talk seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven, Nauti Mike is first up for doctor Rot.
Speaker 3 (02:24:37):
Mike, what is your question for the Good Doctor, Doctor Rono?
Speaker 4 (02:24:42):
I need some advice.
Speaker 2 (02:24:43):
I be saying the Fantasy bulls and would that be
his thing?
Speaker 3 (02:24:49):
If I win?
Speaker 2 (02:24:49):
I'm mean, oh, quarterback with Detroit, I had him all year.
I picked up Famous James on the wave of why
do I see go down and go with Fame of John.
Speaker 3 (02:25:01):
Wait because he said who empty Jameis Winston playing this week?
Go over who for Jered?
Speaker 6 (02:25:08):
Oh no, no, I think you gotta play Jared Goff tonight.
I think this is a high scoring game. You know. Look,
I get it. Winston's look great. I like Jamis. He's
a great guy. But man, I don't sit Jared Goff
at home. Ever, ever, Lion's gonna put lines are unstoppable
right now offensively, and their defense is so bad that
I'm thinking that he's gonna have to do even more.
Speaker 3 (02:25:29):
All right, that's your answer on that one.
Speaker 2 (02:25:32):
Let's go to Alexander on seven on me, Alexander, what's
your question for doctor Rodo? All right, mister Rono should
up that Week three?
Speaker 3 (02:25:41):
Unfortunately I had Jawanna Jennings on the bench and I
lost by five points. So this year and this week,
the Flagons.
Speaker 16 (02:25:49):
Are gonna say something number one team, and I have
one question, and all the time I win and loss.
Should I start either Jordan Edison or Jylen warreny flicks no,
sit down.
Speaker 7 (02:26:00):
And listen for you.
Speaker 6 (02:26:01):
Yeah, you got it. So I do like Jordan Addison
this week. I think that the Falcons play the Viking.
Shipped up three touchdowns, shopped up three touchdowns. I like
Justin Jefferson to score. I like Addison's score. I like
Jalen Lawren. Jay Lawns is okay, But I don't know
whether this I think this game. People look at what
Vegas is saying. Right, we saw the Steelers last week,
(02:26:22):
we saw the Browns the other night, high scoring game.
Why is this all? Why is this a forty three
and a half. It tells me be careful. It tells
me this game may be under. If this game is
going under, give me the game that I think is
going to be higher scoring, which is the Viking game.
Which is why I'm going to play Addison over one.
Speaker 2 (02:26:39):
All right, let's go to Brendan for Doctor Ronald on
seven hoey High.
Speaker 21 (02:26:42):
Brendan, Hey, guys, I appreciate you taking my call. The
first question is did I play Herbert or Mayfield? Then
my second question is, let's pretend that Bucky Irving is
going to play. I know he's questionable at the moment,
but should I play him or Tracy?
Speaker 3 (02:27:05):
And I believe that was it?
Speaker 2 (02:27:07):
Yeah, you got it.
Speaker 6 (02:27:08):
I'm gonna play. I'm gonna play Baker and Irving. Irving
was questionable all last week. He has looked fantastic. He
is absolutely the RV one there and he's playing in
the Raiders who went up like almost five yards to
carry justin. Herbert's got a tough matchup against the Chiefs.
These are two teams that like to hold the ball
a lot of time of possession. I don't see this
(02:27:28):
being a Boom Herbert week, but man Baker Mayfield in
a game that the Buccaneers have to win against the Raiders,
a West Coast team coming in to play the early spot.
I love Baker, I love I love Irving. You know
the problem with Tyrone Tracy is, as much as I
think he's been a good player, all of a sudden,
Devin Singletary was starting last week. He was way too
involved for my liking. So Bucky and Baker.
Speaker 2 (02:27:49):
Yeah, I picked up deferent Singletary and he did nothing
for me, but appreciate it anyway. John and Conrall on
seven Hoey, Hi John.
Speaker 22 (02:27:57):
Hey, how's it going guys? Good Doc Brotto, I got
a question for you. Do I play Gus Edwards or
Nick Chubb?
Speaker 3 (02:28:07):
And that will be it? All right? Thank you?
Speaker 6 (02:28:09):
Yeah? So very similar guys, right, very similar guys. So
basically is who do you think is gonna score? Do
you think that Gus is gonna score? You think Chubb
is gonna score? I think I'm gonna take my shot
on Gus Edwards, I do. I think I'm gonna take
my shot there. I think the Chiefs are beatable and
I think the Chargers are our team that can beat them.
They just have to play the same defense they played
(02:28:30):
last week against Kirk Cousins. Nick Chubb has struggled a
little bit this year. I like the Steelers more at
home than I do on the road. Let's go with
Gus the bus.
Speaker 2 (02:28:38):
You know, you said the Chiefs are beatable. So is
everybody else in the NFL. This They've been saying that
all year. All the Chiefs are beatable. They've had one loss,
the luckiest team ever and and honestly, right helped me
out here. Uh, Mahomes and fantasy numbers are dramatic down.
They've been in seasons past.
Speaker 6 (02:28:53):
Correct dramatically down. But you know, look, I'm not gonna
gripe here, but I will do you ever see some
of the shots so that some of these ow the
quarterbacks take and they don't get calls. I mean, Jameis
Winston was crushed on a play on Monday night. Nothing
if that happened to Patrick Mahomes. I mean, forget about it.
There's seventeen penalties being called on that. So I don't
(02:29:13):
want to complain like that. But the Chiefs get every call,
and look Mahomes does It's third and ten and he
doesn't throw it. He's running for fourteen yards, so he
figures out, he does what he needs to do, and
that's what the Chiefs have done all season long.
Speaker 2 (02:29:26):
Let's go to Fernando on seven ninety for doctor Roto.
Speaker 3 (02:29:29):
Hi, Fernando, Good afternoon, fellas.
Speaker 7 (02:29:34):
Just had a question for you, Douc.
Speaker 9 (02:29:38):
Jayden Daniels is on my bench this week, and I
picked up Russell Wilson. But now I'm looking at Caleb Williams.
So who should I start there, Russell or cayleb.
Speaker 6 (02:29:48):
Yeah, I mean I would probably start Russell Wilson. I
like Caleb, but I don't love Caleb, to be quite
honest with you. Now, look, if Cooper Rush is available,
I like him this week. I think he's got a
great start against the Bengals. So if not, I mean,
I guess I see why you like Caleb after what
he did on Thanksgiving. But Russell Wilson is good. They're
(02:30:08):
gonna put up three touchdowns, all right. And what I
like about Cleveland is Cleveland lets up explosive plays, big
downfield plays. We should see Russ going to Pickens at
least once this week. I think Russell throws about two
hundred and fifty yards and two touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (02:30:22):
All right, let's go to our buddy Keso on seven
Aunty Kso for doctor Rote on seven Hounty High Kso.
Speaker 11 (02:30:29):
Hey, guys, I'll make a quick golf baker or loved
and I have Nico Collins out this week, so I'm
looking at the waiver wire roto what do you think
Keon Coleman, Christian Watson are Dantevian Wicks?
Speaker 3 (02:30:41):
Thanks guys, thank you.
Speaker 6 (02:30:43):
Yeah. I think what I'm doing with you is I'm
picking up Watson. I'm going to go Love and Watson.
I'm going to put them together tonight, and I think
they're going to take a couple of shots deep and
I think they're going to connect on at least one
of them. I really do. K So, so look, I
love golf at home, but man, Love against Detroit with
that defense right now, they're decimated. I think there's time
to take advantage of him. Love and Watson.
Speaker 2 (02:31:05):
All right, two of these five, Garrett Wilson, Jacobi Myers,
cade Otto or Sam la Porta.
Speaker 3 (02:31:10):
Two of the five in a PPR league.
Speaker 6 (02:31:13):
Myers and Wilson.
Speaker 3 (02:31:16):
All right, and let's see if anybody else on Twitter
wants to get something in. We gotta lot.
Speaker 2 (02:31:21):
Let's see here, Uh, Gus, Edwards, Hunt or Bigsby. Pick
one of those three.
Speaker 6 (02:31:26):
I guess I'm gonna go with Gus. I don't trust
Hunt anymore. Pacheco played last week, and please don't play
tank picks. But if you do, it's you know, I
know it's desperate times and you know we week fourteen
with all the teams on by.
Speaker 2 (02:31:37):
But he's unplayable, all right, Deebo, Davante Smith or Westbrook.
Speaker 3 (02:31:41):
Ee, that's a great, great question.
Speaker 6 (02:31:44):
Let's see if Devanta is healthy. If he's healthy, I
like him, but this could be a debo week. The
problem is, Bears are very generous to running backs and
very generous to tight ends, not as generous to wide receivers.
So you know what, I think. I'm gonna go with
DeVonta Smith if he's playing and if he's healthy. If not,
going up of course, people, All.
Speaker 2 (02:32:03):
Right, last call belongs to Will on the West Side
for doctor Roto on seven.
Speaker 3 (02:32:08):
Honey, Will, what's your question? Please?
Speaker 7 (02:32:11):
Thanks to take my call?
Speaker 2 (02:32:12):
Guys, I got a Baker Mayfield or Jordan Love.
Speaker 6 (02:32:17):
Yeah. Look, Will, I've got the same question in three
different leagues. I'm telling you what I'm doing. I'm clicking
the button on Jordan Love tonight. I don't like playing
Thursday games, but this is a dome. This should be
a high scoring game. Give me Jordan Love all right?
Speaker 2 (02:32:30):
Thanks to the phone call, will ladies and genterally asked
Doctor Roto once a week to help us out with
a knockdown, drag out one guaranteed winner, a guy that's
on our team we have to use.
Speaker 3 (02:32:39):
We present to you Dr Rono's lock of the week.
Speaker 6 (02:32:45):
Is it too basic to say sa Kwon Barkley, I
feel like it is. Is it too basic to say
Alvin Kamara? I feel like it is. But you know what.
Those are two locks, but let's go with a third one.
Let's go with George Pickens. We mentioned him before. Cleveland
plays a on a man coverage. Pickens love seeing man
coverage and they take a lot of shots downfield. Denzel
(02:33:06):
Ward makes a lot of big plays, but he makes
a lot of bad plays. I think George Pickens one
hundred yards and a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (02:33:12):
Ladies and gentlemen, that is Doctor Rodo's.
Speaker 3 (02:33:17):
A lot of the week.
Speaker 2 (02:33:18):
Are you surprised how bullish and I use that word again.
But I mean we're using Pittsburgh players a lot this year,
doctor rohdal, No would possible to have thought of that
coming into the year.
Speaker 6 (02:33:28):
Well, you know what, you had Russell Wilson. Everybody thought that,
you know, justin fields, justin fields. But Russell Wilson has
been really good. The running game has stabilize this team.
He doesn't feel like he has to do too much.
And you know what, we haven't even seen Mike Williams yet.
They barely used him. This is a team that could
be very scary as they head into the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (02:33:46):
All right, where can we find you between now and Sunday?
Speaker 3 (02:33:48):
My man?
Speaker 6 (02:33:49):
You know you can always find me on exit d
r r ot O. You can find me at my
website doctor Roto dot com, and of course on Serious
Section Fantasy Sports Radio every Saturday morning eight to ten
amis awesome.
Speaker 2 (02:34:01):
Thank you as always, and we'll do this again next Thursday.
Appreciate the time, my friend, looking forward to it. Take
care of you, all right, doctor Roto with us here
on Sports Talk seven ninety. All right, the Rotten five

one three five SEVENNA. You'll be using that for the
uh believe it or not? What are we playing for today?
By the way, spectacular prizes.
Speaker 14 (02:35:19):
We got a four pack of tickets with pitt passes
to Monster Jim on February second at n RG Stadium
with a little.
Speaker 2 (02:35:24):
Forward promote there, ladies, gentlemen, it absolutely takes zero knowledge, insight, analysis,
brilliance to give you the five best teams in the NFL.
I know who can give you the five worst. It's
our buddy sports RV.
Speaker 6 (02:35:38):
They've gone there by they draw flies.
Speaker 1 (02:35:44):
Wits, Ross's Rotten five.
Speaker 3 (02:35:48):
This don't smell quite right? Yes, Matthew, after some time off,
and thanks to Connor's Rotten five for taking over the
last couple of weeks. I'm sure he did just great,
probably even put more effort than I have into this
one today. But that's okay. Let's get rolling with the
bottom five. Congratulations to the New England Patriots for being
competitive in the game against the Colts this weekend, but
(02:36:10):
missfield goals, turnovers, penalties, sending them to their third straight loss.
The squad just three and ten on the year, the
defense middling at best, their offense horrible. How about a
thirtieth place in the NFL four point seven yards per play?
That is awful. Remaining schedule also not looking great. The
(02:36:32):
Pats have to go to Arizona this week. That's not fun.
Speaker 2 (02:36:35):
They also have to play the Bills twice, and the
Chargers down the stretch looks like they're going to be
wrapping racking up some more l's bottom line. Patriots terrible,
the fifth worst team in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (02:36:47):
Good rid for cancer, That's what I'm doing. No, you're
not getting O it's you. First of all, you're on
the coach Bills is Arizona.
Speaker 2 (02:36:52):
Come on, let's go.
Speaker 3 (02:36:52):
All right, let's talk about two weeks ago. The Tennessee
Titans surprising and much deserve win over the Houston Texas.
But make no mistake, the Titans are terrible. They proved
that this week getting blown out by the Washington Commanders
and now have lost three of their last four games,
only three wins on the whole year against the Commis.
How about allowing two hundred and sixty seven yards on
(02:37:14):
the ground in the NFL. That's horrible, getting down twenty
eight to nothing in that game. Also the most penalized
team in the NFL, averaging eight point three per game,
a minus thirteen turnover deferential minus nine point three point differential,
both second worse.
Speaker 2 (02:37:30):
Than the league.
Speaker 3 (02:37:30):
The Titans are terrible. They do get the Jaguars this week,
but right now the fourth worst team in the NFL.
It's like deja vu.
Speaker 12 (02:37:38):
Twice in a row, shooting ourselves in the foot.
Speaker 3 (02:37:40):
Yeah, I know you don't want to do that. Well,
all right, Jacksonville Jaguars got down big. They did rally
against the Texans, but at the end of the day,
the squad has lost five games in a row. They've
only won twice on the year. Adding to that, Trevor
Lawrence now out for the year. Although mac Jones looked
pretty solid, Trevor Lawrence has been bad, so maybe things
will get better for them, but looking like another high
(02:38:00):
draft pick. They do have a soft schedule coming up,
two games against the Titans, matchup against the Jets, Raiders,
and Colts, but no point in trying to win any
of those games. They should be playing for the highest
possible draft pick because they are terrible. They are the
third worst team in the NFL.
Speaker 7 (02:38:15):
You can't have a newcomer come in and steal a show.
Speaker 3 (02:38:19):
I know, Jaguars, lady, I know, all right. Mel Las
Vegas Raiders. They have been horrible this year, losing a
whopping eight games in a row, the last of which
was closed to the Chiefs. But who doesn't have a
close game to the Chiefs. We're not giving you credit
for that. Good news, Brock Bauers has been a revelation,
should be in line to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Bad news though, well, team only has two wins on
(02:38:41):
the year, no quarterback of the future. They're also a
league worst minus eighteen in turnover margin. Statistics do show
that turnover luck can flip from year to year, so
they have that in their favor, but right now they
are terrible. Only two wins and they are the second
worst team in the NFL. Jarrads suck, all right, let's
(02:39:04):
keep it moving that. Things continue to sink lower and
lower and lower for the New York Giants. They now
lost seven games in a row. They've gone from Daniel Jones,
the Timmy DeVito, the Drew Lock and it doesn't matter.
They just continue to lose no matter who the quarterback is.
Speaker 2 (02:39:18):
As they've lost those seven in a row.
Speaker 3 (02:39:19):
Things looking even worse as both starting tackles have been
missing practice this week. Up to five starters could be
out this weekend against the New Yorleans Saints. My goodness,
the Giants. Things keep getting worse and worse. Remains to
be seen if Brian Dable will stay in place in
New York, but things have gone awful for them. They
are the absolute worst team in the NFL. I've seen teams.
Speaker 4 (02:39:40):
Suck before, but they would just suck you as a
bunch of sucks that ever sucked.
Speaker 2 (02:39:45):
And then you're run in and five.
Speaker 6 (02:39:47):
Great. Have you back?
Speaker 2 (02:39:48):
Rossie?
Speaker 6 (02:39:49):
All right?
Speaker 2 (02:39:49):
Ross it out, look at your Twitter account, turn your
computer off. Okay, we're gonna play the range game. Okay,
we need a little breaking news sounder here, Connor d
McGovern if you don't mind.
Speaker 3 (02:39:59):
Oh Soto, I haven't looked. It's just a one. Oh okay,
so that's not Soto Range game.
Speaker 2 (02:40:10):
Oprin Shangoon. ROSSI was fined.
Speaker 3 (02:40:13):
Hmm.
Speaker 2 (02:40:14):
You get a range of twenty five hundred dollars either direction?
How much eleven and seventeen fifteen thousand?
Speaker 3 (02:40:20):
So you lose. That's fine.
Speaker 2 (02:40:22):
I feel like I came pretty close though.
Speaker 3 (02:40:24):
Your directing, your little range that you made up wasn't fair.
Speaker 2 (02:40:27):
It was only fifteen genes.
Speaker 3 (02:40:29):
Will I give you nine thousand dollars range? CA I
want ten? Ridiculous, I want ten range.
Speaker 2 (02:40:33):
Fifteen thousand dollars for Aprin Shangoon for directing inappropriate language
towards a game official. Now if you swear at him
in Turkish. Is that the same thing?
Speaker 3 (02:40:41):
Probably he needs to stick to that and they don't
know what he's saying unless they had a translator.
Speaker 2 (02:40:45):
All right, next game ran the range game five thousand
dollars Range. Tarry Easton got fined today by.
Speaker 3 (02:40:53):
The NBA seventeen thousand, five hundred thirty five thousand, thirty
five geez.
Speaker 2 (02:40:58):
For throwing a towel on a deal for throwing a
towel and directing inappropriate language in the direction of a
fan in the spectator stands after the game had concluded.
Speaker 3 (02:41:09):
Hmmm, wow, Emadoka Range ten thousand, I'll go fifty right
in the nose.
Speaker 2 (02:41:20):
Okay, fifty thousand dollars Fordoka for confronting and directing profane
language towards a game official. Failing to leave the court
in a timely matter. That's when you cross over the
half court line. That's not timely. Rossi after being ejected
and public criticism of officiating during his postgame press conference.
Speaker 3 (02:41:38):
Extremely public criticism. You know what he did. He bundled
his fine. Yeah, that's that's good man. That's smart you
say when you bundles. What I've heard, Yeah, I mean
he didn't he didn't want to. He didn't go out
a card. He didn't want his egg muffin, hash brown
and coffee all separately. He went to the buffeting. Yeah, yeah, he.
Speaker 2 (02:41:52):
Wanted the He he went with com one number three,
called somebody a name postgame press conference.
Speaker 3 (02:41:58):
And didn't leave. And it's only matter.
Speaker 2 (02:42:06):
I want a living ross where I can lose fifty
thousand dollars and it doesn't hurt, because I'll be Let's
be honest.
Speaker 3 (02:42:12):
It doesn't hurt name antoka gotta hurt a little bit,
no fitty geez, what is it hurt?
Speaker 12 (02:42:20):
A little bit?
Speaker 2 (02:42:21):
Five million? No idea, no idea, Probably around there, maybe more.
I might get the over on that.
Speaker 3 (02:42:28):
Okay, so let's do this.
Speaker 2 (02:42:29):
Let's do the math on this. If you're making five
million dollars and you got fifty thousand dollars, fine, that's okay.
Ten percent of his salary would be five hundred thousand,
So it's one percent of his salary.
Speaker 3 (02:42:49):
Oh, you could go with the mouth on the fly.
Speaker 2 (02:42:52):
If you lost one percent of your salary because of
something you said, yeah, it'd be a lot.
Speaker 3 (02:42:57):
Would it hurt you? It's not like, Okay, I'm not
saying he's gonna starve. He's struggling to eat, but good food.
Speaker 2 (02:43:05):
I think he'd rather not. If you ask anybody on
the planet, would you rather have fifty thousand dollars or not?
Speaker 6 (02:43:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:43:10):
But don't you think that he knew that was coming?
They was like, you know what, Like I said, I'm
gonna bundle my situation. I'm not gonna leave half court.
I'm gonna cross half court. I'm gonna make sure John
go On knows exactly how I feel about him.
Speaker 3 (02:43:21):
You ask him pregame if he if he rather have
fifty thousand or not. I want to hear this here
three two what Matt Thomas and he made, don't it.
We're in the coach's corner and is presented to you
by Total. Let's go places, coach, you're fifty thousand dollars
light in the pocket? Your thoughts?
Speaker 2 (02:43:38):
How many gofunny jokes can I bring up in the food?
Speaker 3 (02:43:40):
You've already done it twice. Now let's go for three. No,
I'm not contributing. He's fine. By the way, Google says
seven MILLI he's making. Oh so that's less than one
percent seven million. That's damn good money. He's doing okay
for himself.
Speaker 6 (02:43:56):
Worth it.
Speaker 2 (02:43:57):
Rocket's playing better. Yes, all right, let's put believe it
or not next. I don't even know what the category
is me either.
Speaker 3 (02:44:03):
Wait a minute, what have you been doing?
Speaker 2 (02:44:04):

Speaker 3 (02:44:48):
The Children's Hospital in Memphis does incredible work. I saw
a firsthand. They're amazing.
Speaker 2 (02:44:53):
They take care of families that take care of the children,
They cure cancer, and the numbers are so much better
than they worse twenty thirty years ago. And it's because
of a great public support and hopefully you can spare
a monthly contribution. It's a small amount that's gonna go
such touch, such a good cause, really helping out so
(02:45:14):
many people across this country, not only Houstonians, but people
that travel to Memphis all the time to get their
kids the proper medical attention they seek. On one hundred

Sunday night. Rossing the other headlines, I've failed to bring up.
Speaker 3 (02:45:51):
Nothing off the top of my head. Okay, that's good.
Let's see what else. Green Bay Detroit tonight?
Speaker 2 (02:46:00):
How are they look you? They get to play a
Thursday night game on a full week's rest. Man, The
NFL could take care of some teams, can't they scheduling?
Matt it's random, it's not it's not random.
Speaker 3 (02:46:12):
Scheduling.
Speaker 2 (02:46:13):
There's no chances of random scheduling. I mean the Texas
had to go to New York, short week, travel up
there on a Thursday night game Green Bay Detroit. Our flight.
Speaker 3 (02:46:24):
They play on back to back thursdays. Next thing you're cana,
tell me it's Dallas Cowboys get all on the national games.
Oh they do Monday night football against Cincinnati. It's fine.
Speaker 2 (02:46:36):

Speaker 14 (02:47:20):

Jam on Sunday, February second at Energy Stadium and some
seven ninety t shirts.
Speaker 2 (02:47:26):
By the way, was there an earthquake in California today?
Speaker 3 (02:47:29):
I think it was off the coast. There's you better
watch out. There's a uh, there's a tsunami warning.
Speaker 6 (02:47:36):
There is.
Speaker 3 (02:47:37):
You might want to look into that, Matt Ken I
felt nothing here. It was off the coast of northern California.
Tsunami warning in place. You want to look into that.
For San Francisco, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:47:49):
It's for the coast.
Speaker 3 (02:47:50):
Oh my god, now I'm all nervous. All right?

Safety administration. Duh, of course you do that? What is that?
Is that like being a future police officer?
Speaker 7 (02:48:27):
Is that?
Speaker 3 (02:48:28):
I have no idea? All right, let's go to.
Speaker 2 (02:48:32):
Reggie on seven Aunty Reggie ready to play.

Speaker 6 (02:48:35):
Believe it?
Speaker 2 (02:48:36):
Reggie Alsi's al Share was also an all state basketball
star in high school, but decided to pursue football. Believe
it or not not, that's correct statement number two for
the win. Alsi's al ran a four point seven to
seven forty yard dash of the NFL combine. Believe it
or not?
Speaker 6 (02:48:56):
Not?
Speaker 3 (02:48:56):
No, he didn't. A lot of nots here so far.
Two winners.
