Speaker 2 (00:07):
Ten O one an Ah Town. Good morning and welcome
do a Thursday of this shoe The Mat Thomas Show
at Ross. This your Sports Talk seven, A little EJ
for you, nine in a row, silver boots. Incredible. I
(00:28):
want the mood for twenty four hours. Uh you know,
I figured I was wondering how long it would take
you to spend it to you, and it took about
fourteen seconds. I mean it was longer than that, but
it was definitely within a two minute time frame. Hey Matt,
good morning to have you back.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Yeah, I I will say I did not watch a
moment of the game because I was planning on being
home in time to watch the game. What happened, Uh,
Newark had some rain and put us on the on
the tarmac for three hours before it took off. So
that's why you gotta go JFK. Man, it come on
the JFK. Make a difference. The weather's kidding. I mean,
it's actually a horrible idea, but JFK is much further.
(01:05):
I was in Jersey City, so the airport was much closer. Okay,
you take the train over there, no uber, Okay, Yeah, oh,
dang Uber's in New York. Well you got the money
money bubers in Jersey. Okay, that was expense with the rocket,
So that's fine. Okay, Oh was I saying? Oh uh?
So I did go to the MLB app and I
downloaded it and I boked. I. You know what, I
I did something for the first time yesterday and all
(01:26):
my years of traveling. I bought the Internet in the flight.
And and you've never done that, and I've never done
How terrible was it? Normally? Schmidd got a new satellite.
Oh okay, if I wanted to grade it one to ten,
the internet, unschmided ten. Wow, I'm telling you, if you
(01:49):
are going to be on a long flight, now a goodment.
I was delayed, yes, and the flight, you know, from
from Newark to here is three, you know, three and
a half hours. So I had the internet for about
six hours. It never ever let me down. And I
was streaming the audio and I thought, we'll be king
in the air. The audio is going to be splotchy,
you know, and look, shmin, it's got its issues. But
(02:10):
that issue that new internet they've got going is spectacular,
all right. So that's a highly recommend for me. Thank you, Matt.
I listened to I guess so I got in the
car after I got out landed listened to you on
the tenth innings. Wow, Holly, would you grade me? I
mean you kind of have an Albuquerque sound to you.
(02:31):
Oh okay, so what's that? Is that? A small market?
Mid market? It's market fifty okay, I'll take it, yeah
fifty five maybe all right? Nice? Thank you? How the
show's got and not listened to a moment of the shows?
Speaker 4 (02:46):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Oh the shows they were great forgot you were gone. Okay.
By the way, a lot of people are sending tweets Matt,
the astros of once since you've left, So take some
more time off and you know, so I'll do that. Huh.
Maybe I shouldn't come back into after the World Series
is over with? Yeah, they are three and oh while
you're gone. That's just saying today's an off day, so
we'll give you a pass Friday. We'll see what happens.
(03:07):
But the Texans are on one I left, that's true,
but they also lost when you were here too. Mm.
By the way, water holders, you owe the city of
Houston an apology. Texans Water Carriers, Texans kool Aid drinkers. Yeah,
well no, they're not telling proper and it's the Texans
people they credential that shouldn't have credentials. Okay, that list
(03:30):
is abundant. Uh, y'all couldn't throw enough shade on Bobby's
slow Bobby slowk was a whole problem. Now, Nick Kayley's
the whole problem. Yeah, I mean, my god, I mean,
do you want to be a cow's cookout that damn
bad that you're just gonna just completely have no integrity.
We'll move on in that, but more important, we'll get that.
(03:52):
I just I got a lot of things pent up.
I was gonna say, we're playing the hits and segment
one we are we are. Uh yeah, good show today,
we got hopefully for you were entertain the hell out
of you between now and two o'clock. Brian mctaggery with
us at eleven o'clock. Huge, I just don't get it, Okay,
I have one for an entire team. I don't get it.
Eleven thirty ooh, all right, all right, the news at
noon today, we've got the Rotten five at twelve fifty.
(04:16):
I sent that out last night, so there's should be
zero surprise yeah, I'm on it. It's it's halfway down
and I will do believe it or not today all things.
Robert Redford, Oh great, did you guys give away those
tickets to the concert? Yeah? How did you do? You
didn't do it? Oh? Man, there's so many. I mean,
I sent you an email and a text. Yeah. Did
(04:37):
you guys not give away those tickets? Are they today? No?
The promotions department said, Monday through Wednesdad, he give away
those tickets. Oh, I'm sorry, Matt's man, I'm sorry. I forgot,
but not in my defense. I didn't remember anything I forgot.
Speaker 5 (04:52):
I remember that.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
I literally to you, I'm sorry, or email them every
Sunday I send you a rundown of the entire thinks
in trouble. I messed up. I'm sorry. I blame the producer.
Producers supposed to be reminding me. Yeah, you know what,
no matter.
Speaker 6 (05:08):
You know I was gonna let him, you know I was, Okay, Well,
I did remind him on Tuesday. I said one time,
I said Monday Friday. I said, because we forgot Monday,
and that's fault.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Well, hold on a second, okay, So we have those
we have trans Siberian for believing not. But there's something else.
There was a concert we're supposed give away. Yeah Wayne,
when is it? When's the Little Wayne concert? Can you
look it up at today tonight? It's today, So we'll
give it away right now. Yeah, tickets, We have three tickets.
We can get like three or three sets right repairs? Yeah,
all right, let's do this. Yeah, people get a Little Wayne.
We're gonna save ourselves here. Well, I'm gonna save yourselves
(05:39):
from yourselves from yourselves. Okay, you want to go see
a Little Wayne tonight? Yes, I got three pair of tickets. Okay,
let's give them away right now? All right, how are
we gonna do this? Just can you just claim them? Well,
you tell me. Do you want him come on the air?
Hmm you no, no, no, no, have him come on
the air. Just say hello, just general how they feel
about sports, okay, and maybe maybe it's something anecdotal about
(06:03):
Little Wayne. Okay, Yeah, we'll see how this goes. Sure.
I don't know if we have a Little Wayne audience
or not. I couldn't name one song. You couldn't. I
don't think I could.
Speaker 6 (06:13):
What We'll play some Little Wayne before I just have
to come on the show.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
And talk to us for just a couple of minutes. Yes,
just say and then say you want some liw Wan tickets?
If you want your Hallowayn tickets, we'll give you on hold.
So if you want the little Wayne tickets, you have
to come on the show for like a minute tonight
at the Woodlands Pavilion. Keep going. Eighteenth ticket master doctor
dormaster dot com. Yeah, there you go, official seller. You
can get him for free here on Sports Talk seven
(06:41):
ninety but if you can't seven one three two one
two five seven Ninetyka this we have some little Wing.
We get some wainy x we do? Can you say
that on the radio? I think? So? Okay, it's the
Carter six tour with low Wayne tickets available to get
mastered doc. Right, so there's a lot of positives from
(07:02):
the Astros series against the Range, surely right? Who broke
brianub are you? By the way? What do you mean?
Who broke him? He's got three saves in a row
two nights ago. Talk to me, what oh when he
got four outs and got the save? How many runs
did you give up? Uh? He zero? Well one of
(07:22):
them was unearned. You're talking about two nights ago. When
he went to he got to thirty two pitches. Yes, yeah,
he allowed a run from I think it was an
Adelas Garcia RBI single, but that run was charged to
in Delos Santosh. Something else was okay, he wasn't broken
because the Twitter verse told me it was broken. He's broken.
Uh well, Twitter versus, you're telling me that somebody overreacted
(07:43):
on Twitter. It happens occasionally. He got a four out
save the runs that scored in the eighth were uh yeah,
he he allowed an Adulas Garcia RBI single, but the
runs were charged to Annio Della sent so the inherited
runners were on him. Okay, it was one. I think
it was one of the inherited runners. Back. It wasn't
the game like six nothing, and then it came back
to seat it was Amo Delo Santos gave up the
(08:04):
four uncentos you deal a suck then, well, yeah, so
excuse me who broke Dela Santos? Okay, yeah, Brian Breve,
you came in. He gave a walk and then in
a Doulas Garcia single, and then he got out the
he got the final out and then yeah he did
get it. Give up a single and then got a
double Did he get a double play?
Speaker 7 (08:22):
No?
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Then he yeah, alright, so I don't know, nont need
to worry about him. Then it was thirty two pitches,
and I mean there were some nervy moments. Okay, but yeah,
Eno Dela Santos did the bulk of the giving up
a run. Well, I stand corrected that. Nobody broke Brian
and he got to save the day before. All right,
all right, Jose, Cody and Jerry are three people that
(08:43):
are going to go to the concert. Now for some
reason they can't go tonight. We'll let somebody else come
on and get on the show. Okay. Well, and by people,
even if you can't go a little way to join
the show. Wow, people love their little one. I didn't realize.
So what was name the most famous little wing song?
Probably a Millie maybe six six six was seven foot?
I was gonna say a milli or six foot seven foot,
six foot, seven foot a foot. No, it's sampled from
(09:08):
Harry Belafonte. Don't tell him that. Yeah, that's from like
the fifties, the man knows that, or the sixties, probably
Harry Delafante, Belafonte, Bell whatever, not at all. You know
you're Harry Belafonte, You'll you'll recognize the songs, he said, yeah,
that song? All right, we'll get a hey, uh, missus officer.
(09:34):
The Carter three is a is a rap classic Carter
four as well. So come back with the most famous
Lil Wayne song and see if I we'll play. Does
Matt know it? Okay? I've played a milli before. Of
course he started with the Hot Boys as an eighteen
year old. Was he had hit? Was he a lot
boy or a hot boy? Hot Boys? With he and
(09:54):
Beg and somebody else? Break? By the way, do you
want me to get every caller into the first three?
You know, we'll see Jose four is going to backup Harry. Jose,
Cody and Jerry want to go. So if one of
those three can't go for some reason, another calls horrific, Wen,
we won't give them the tickets. Okay, chance, so you're
gonna get the tickets. Ten thirteen, it's a mout Tom
Michel ross as we give away more Little Wayne tickets
(10:16):
than any other station in the marketplace. Sports Talk seven
ninety from Miss Candle, what's the world without in it?
I mean, this is this, this is absolutely amazing. Oh,
Matt's bobbing his head.
Speaker 8 (10:27):
Guys, excuse me, like I missed the Life and.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
Sleep.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
This is the Kendrick Lamar of today's R and B.
What this a couple of things here. Lil Wayne predates
Kendrick Lamar by well a decade. Then, Kendrick Lamar is
jealous of how great Lil Wayne's song is. I don't
think so. So Missus Wayne had the baby come out
and she said, I'm gonna name my son Lil No,
(10:57):
it's a it's a rap moniker. Matt Okay, I think
he was the first starter. Now I don't think. Yeah,
he wasn't the first lil I don't know who the
first Lil was, but there's it's a very common rap moniker.
Lil Wayne also apt because he started he started rapping
as a teenager. Yes, boys, he was a little kid
(11:17):
from Denver, New Orleans. I guess actually that was fun. Yeah,
you're telling me the rap scene in Denver is not great.
I would say New Orleans is better. That feels fair. Yeah,
I don't know who the most famous Denver rapper is
might be John Denver. It was a little John Denver. Yeah,
(11:42):
he's on a rocky, rock rocky, rocky Rocky Mountain High. Yes, rocky, rocky, rocky, rocky, rocky,
Rocky Mucket High. I to the folds. Uh, Cody was
on The Mat Thomas Show and Ross Cody, good morning,
(12:03):
Good morning.
Speaker 9 (12:04):
I got three sports takes and then I got some
bars for you.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
Real quick, let's go. This may be the best call
we've had all week.
Speaker 9 (12:12):
But before the before I say the bars, am I
able to say the S word? Would that get me done?
Speaker 2 (12:16):
No? Get you dumb? So do? Yeah? Don't curse at all?
No cursing at all?
Speaker 7 (12:20):
Zero?
Speaker 9 (12:20):
All right, all right, no cursing. All right, here we go.
Texans are back, I mean Astros are back. Texans aren't back.
And Arts Manning couldn't hit the water if he jumped
out of a boat.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
And the bars are better?
Speaker 9 (12:34):
Where a late text because you don't want that late
text that I think I'm late text.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
True, Lord's never spoken. Well, Wayne, got bars, Maddie. Let
me tell you something. I don't know what those bars
were fifteen seconds ago, but I understand them now. Okay,
all right, well Cody, you can really go tonight. Yes,
I'm off all weekend. Don't go back to work. Till
Sunday night. Thank you for calling in Cody, even though
you know real g's moving silence like lasagna. Mmm hot,
(13:02):
take what I like lasagna? Oh my god, I don't
like ricotta cheese. So if you're gonna make a lasagna
for me, no ricotta? Oh please Racona, Jonathan, your thoughts
on raccatta chee.
Speaker 8 (13:16):
You already got your dukes up. But I didn't say anything. Wait, no, Ross,
I'm sorry, but I agree with no, I agree with
See again, I didn't say anything. I'm not the biggest,
but you home, I'm not the biggest Rikanda fans. See
you don't even let me speak?
Speaker 2 (13:28):
All right, I'm sorry. Go ahead, God go ahead. But
if you want to layer of noodles and parmesan and
other cheeses, I'm all for that. I could eat Lasignan
till I'm blue in the face, But don't put the
ricatta in there. Riccatta's gross grainy? No? Yeah? Uh? Jerry
and golf Gate.
Speaker 10 (13:46):
Hi, Jerry, say that. Lil Wayne and I almost share
a birthday.
Speaker 5 (13:55):
Here is a choice.
Speaker 10 (13:56):
Stand that sis tever remind of twenty eight and Matt
two weeks ago. You had a guy on I tell
you something he had. He had been a DJ, and
uh now he's mixing old school songs with with new school,
you know, with a house beat.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
And I want to tell you he said something.
Speaker 10 (14:17):
He says, Man, it gives me range.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
I really appreciated that, you know.
Speaker 10 (14:22):
Uh so that was kind of a blast.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
You know.
Speaker 10 (14:24):
I really appreciate you having having him on. Do you
remember what I'm talking about?
Speaker 2 (14:28):
No idea?
Speaker 10 (14:30):
Oh okay, yeah, you had a guest on. He was
a special guest.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
Matter of fact, all my guests special, just like you, Jerry.
You're a special caller to the show.
Speaker 10 (14:39):
My friend, I mean pressed, I tell you something. But anyway, Yeah,
I'm down for the Lil Wayne action.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
All right, well we'll put you on hold. Done gets
taking care of now we do we have one of
them taken away from us as that right? Yeah, we
only had two bads. But I don't know if you
can get to Marvin bitch.
Speaker 6 (14:55):
Yeah, I think I think eighteen took the.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Did Yeah, because I actually follow rules around here. All right,
I'm sorry, look at me. Hey, I forgot to give
away the tickets. First time in radio history somebody forgot
to give away tickets. Sorry, guys, I just I'm a
little hurt. I like to prepare the show, and I
put things in well John that I'll tell you, I
was very unprepared. I forgot what day it was. I
was saying, I just don't get it on Wednesday. You
(15:21):
do shutch up by mess up yesterday? Yeah we didn't.
Yes we did. Okay. Do you have Joe a spot on? Yes?
We did? Okay. I want to make sure because you
know we had Bogie. Joe spot was good. Was he
as cranky as he was to challenge that today? He
wasn't cranky. He just I mean, you know, jord On
Alfred is going down, you wouldn't be upset either. Uh yeah.
(15:42):
So what are we supposed to make of this? So
I'm trying to catch up a little bit here. Okay,
it sounds like he's gonna Bob Nightingale reported he's out
for the year and they're might going to revalue for
the postseason. They have not put him on the ten
day I l yet, but it doesn't necessarily mean a
whole lot to me unless they make it till if
they make it to this big series against the Mariners
with him not on the IL, that means he could
come back soon. I'm gut feeling is that he'll be
(16:05):
I led today or I'm sorry tomorrow before the game. Yeah,
because you, I mean, you got a week left to go,
You've got nine games left. You you can't play a
man down the wall. You want twenty you want you
twenty eight man roster, you just do an extra position
player would certainly hurt help. I should say, Now, does
Parades take that spot there? That's interesting. That's another thing.
It's Dana Brown. It's been like, hey, we're targeting it.
(16:26):
It would be it would be a long it's a
long shot, but he's targeting it, targeting it. And then
yesterday Joe spot It said he would if Parades came back,
he would be advised to not run one percent on
the basis. So he's either gonna have to hit a
home run, yes, or gap doubles, which will will wind
up being long singles. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yes, So and
(16:48):
then you don't ever want him to go first to
third or second home No, And and everybody will have
the recount on that and intelligence on that.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
So he's literally gonna have to go station to station,
and as he goes that extra nine ninety eight to
ninety feet. We're gonna be praying that he gets there
and doesn't pull something. Doesn't that sound like he's just
a pinch hitter. He can go out there and Kurt
Gibson it it kind of does. So. Yeah, all right,
so Geo and Jose, we don't have any more little waynes.
If you still want to come on and talk, we
(17:16):
will give you some extra time. A matter of fact,
if you want to give us some little Wayne bars
as a consolation price, we'll let you do that. Okay,
but we don't. We are out of tickets, so I
see we got rid of them all. We're good. Okay,
you'll be getting an email from the promotion's pertmit, that's fine,
just say you know what you gotta say. Sorry, Yeah,
Friday eleven thirty. Thanks sorry, okay, Frober Robber's doing great.
Speaker 7 (17:44):
Jazz.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
The best thing about Sweet Matt is they were able
to line up the rotation the way they wanted to
for the weekend and sweep the Rangers. How about Brian
King with a four out saved last night, Yes, sir,
and a nice mustache? Well, nice and mustache can two
different things. He's got. He's got the best stash game
on the on the squad. Is it frothy in your mind? Frothy? Yeah,
(18:06):
like a big thick top, so that kind of thing,
or is it more wispy. I wouldn't describe it as either. Okay,
just regular bro mustage. He's got a nice womb broom. Okay,
very good. Ted twenty eight of The Matt Thomas Showood
Ross will talk to Jose who's gonna spit out some
little Wayne bars for us? Okay, great? Uh, We've got
(18:27):
Brian Bogus and now we have Brian McTaggart coming up
at Brian. Do you think Brian McTaggert knows one little
Wayne song? I mean he's he's yes, you know what,
he's League City. That's gonna be a yes, right, I
will bet you yeah. You're the You're will be the
most out of touch out of any of the middy
that feels fair. That's right. Seven one three five, seven ninety.
(18:47):
And if you owe Bobby slokan apology, wait till tomorrow
because there are a lot of folks that are throwing
him under the bus. And by the way, all of
the defense on Monday night was mid at best. An
unther super hot take for you. Oh, if I want
a quarterback to win a game this Sunday, am I
taking Baker Mayfield? Am I taking c J. Stroud? Oh,
at the moment, it's not. It's not a hot take
(19:08):
at all. Okay, So it's a regular site, regular temperature take.
In twenty twenty three, and they played each other. We
know who it was. That's right, seven one three, two
one two five, twenty eight of them Mount Thomas show
with ross seven to one three two one two five
seven ninety. But then Nagan mccraty goddess is making me
tear up that nuts amazing vocals. Number six hit in
(19:33):
two thousand and eight on What in America? Not the
Billboard Top one hundred, No, Billboard Top one hundred, number
six hit man, You're out of touch, no chance, You're
way out of town. Shit, not even recent. This is
almost twenty years ago. Yeah, that was like six two thousand, Yeah,
six two thousand and eight, two thousand and eight hit
(19:54):
number six, Billboard one hundred. Okay, Millie, it hit the six.
This is a sixth This song is six times platinum.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
Hm.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
The Card of three that was that was some hits. Hey,
wy'd you fade that out? It was making mad angry.
I'm not mad about it. It was the follow up
to Lollipop, which hit number one on the US Billboard
chart in two thousand and eight. Huh, the things you
learn on this show. Yeah, we're not doing a little
way and believe it or not. By the way, why not,
(20:26):
because I'm working on Robert Redford. Oh okay, Oh got
money was number forty overall of the year. Yeah, Amillie
was forty, featuring T pain Man. You know, you can't
add a good song unless you add T pain to it.
T paint could sing.
Speaker 11 (20:42):
Now.
Speaker 2 (20:43):
He usually went with the you know, the auto tune.
But he by the way, don't forget a Little Boozy
and Little Fat okay, and.
Speaker 6 (20:52):
Little Busy Gordy Pie Rosy Boosey had some hits.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
Yeah, let's see, okay. End of the year. Amillie was
the number forty three song of the year. Lollipop was
the number four song. I forgot that that was that
big of a hit man. Congratulations to all that involved. Yeah,
that's why the two thousand has been probably the worst
music decade. And you've actually said that too, so it
makes me feel that's not true. Uh yeah, A little
(21:17):
Riverband not on here unfortunately, Matt. No, they were not. No,
not Barry Mail, No, no, Barry Man Low. No, I'm not.
I'm not trying to say. I'm not trying to put
the seventies above anything. I was just saying that's just
what I like, and.
Speaker 6 (21:29):
That's but I would agree with you, Matt, I'm not.
I'm not hating on you. I'm agreeing with you.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
Look, I wasn't hated. Well. He was the one that
said there was no chance it hit number six on
the Billboard. It did. He probably knew he was, you
know mill Wayne A Millie forty third, God, I can't
man Lord. Number one song that year, Low by Flora
Florida featuring t Paine. Yeah you know that song probably, Yeah,
(21:53):
Bleeding Love number two, No One, number three, Lollipop number four. Wow,
that's been an off year. What do you talk about those?
Some hits music after about nineteen eighty nine sucks and
you know it because you you appreciate the art we
get in the car. You appreciate the old stuff too.
I play the old stuff because I don't want to
(22:13):
hear you whine and complain the whole line of complain.
I'll just put a podcast. Huh all right seven one
three two one two five sevenatti seven one three two
one two five SEMININTI. So let's talk about a few
of the things that we uh didn't discuss because I
wasn't here, Okay, I mean arch Manning is probably headed
for that heisman, probably show the name etched on there already.
(22:34):
Uh huh uh Sam Houston's Is Sam Houston a must
win game for him this week? I would say, so
it's a must win. Yeah, they're forty point favorites. Did
you did you feel any better to last after the
last Saturday's game? Oh? It got worse. He's getting progressively
worse every single week. So what are the what are
the uber homer saying and what other uber real is saying.
(22:57):
I don't know what the uber homers are saying. I
guess that he's going to be okay, and maybe he will,
but I would I don't know how anybody could possibly
be encouraged by him getting progressively worse as the competition
has gotten easier. It is weird, isn't it. And he
says he's physically fine, That's what the speculation has been,
and he just got to go out there and play
his game and be better. But he's missing like wide
(23:19):
open easy, you know, ten yard throws. He's frankly as
a thrower. He's been making and well, unfortunately he might
have to go. And he just had to make him
the eighteen wheeler package and he can be the next
thing he can need. Tyrone swoops two point oh, which
is not what you wanted. Which, by the way, Tyrone
Soops was a five star recruit. I sometimes it doesn't
work out five star recruits. How about that kid that's
(23:39):
at Oregon State that we're going to see next Friday.
The Cougars are that Malik what's his face? It was
a quarterback in Texas for a while, Oh, Jefferson, No,
Milik Malik Murphy. Yeah, he's at Oregon State now. So
he went to Duke and now he's at Oregon State
and then he was somewhere else. I thought it between whatever.
He's at three schools in Oregon. I watched some of
at Oregon State game last Saturday because I was bored.
(24:02):
He's awful. So yeah, these whole all, this whole star
bit thing is Malik Murphy I think was a four
star whatever. My point is it? But Arch Manning's opposing
quarterback for UTEP was Malachi Nelson. He was a five star.
Nicole yamilove in that same class as a five star.
He's not playing well at all. UCLA got their coach
fired already. Yeah, and by the way their schedule they
(24:23):
were looking. I was looking at a website today. There's
people that think that U SLA may not even win
a game this year. Hmm. So there's no guarantees, no
matter what your last name is. With five stars, correct,
and it's not looking good. But we can be hopeful
he can sell. You'll have at least back for next season.
There'll be no thought of it going to the NFL.
Yeah exactly. I mean talked about how the most likely
(24:45):
outcome would he'd be coming back, and well, it's looking
pretty good. Did you get into a deep dive on
the A and M victory over Notre Dame? I did
not good victory by them, a nice clutch touchdown at
the end of the game. I watched the game, but
it was very entertaining. I think the Saturday college football
was really good. Over was good. We did a a
round by round breakdown of Crawford Canelo. How'd that go?
For you. By the way, can I say this, I
(25:08):
do like boxing. Crawford decision was quite quite fortuitous? Was
that that was that the favored result? No, Canelo was
the favorite because of his size. You had two weight classes,
Crawford was jumping up on. Crawford decision was plus two
twenty and that did not even start to what ten
to fifteen our time later. No, it was like it
(25:29):
was like eleven thirty. Yeah, so that's twelve thirty the east. Yes,
And you probably know the answer to this, and I
sort of do, but I just want to just at
least say it.
Speaker 7 (25:40):
You.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
Boxing has such little national star power in terms of
getting on the front pages of the websites, on the
on the leads of the sports shows. Bearing these fights
at that late of an hour is absolutely ridiculous. And
I could say this for twenty five years. One of
(26:01):
the reasons they do it is they try to They
tried to get it done after the U there was
a there was It wasn't even a UFC pay per view.
It was like a fight Night. But there's overlap. But
you do have overlap with people who like combat sports,
and UFC is bigger than boxing right now, and so
I think they wanted to wait until UFC was over
and then started late. But even as too late they
shoot themselves in the foot. Exactly what you said. You
(26:23):
get this massive fight, one of the biggest fights that
can be made in boxing with Canelo, who is the
heritage water carrier in your sport, and you put the
fight on it at like eleven thirty. Well, I remember,
you know when I was for the and I'm gonna
I'm just gonna go to old school fight, the Tyson
Holyfield fight, the famous fighting of the year. I did
an arena football game in all but in New York
(26:44):
that night, so the game was ending at about ten o'clock.
You probably time in pack. Youre up your ten thirty.
We you know, we didn't have social media at the time,
but we were like, hey, has the fight started yet. No,
it hasn't. So we literally took a cab to the
first bar we could find that had so we're looking
at about eleven fifteen, eleven twenty. We got in the bar.
(27:05):
Now we might not have even ordered a drink, but
we got to the bar in time for this amazing
fight between those two heavyweights at the time, two star power,
and it was eleven twenty, my Saturday, and it still
hadn't even started yet. Yeah, I mean I don't know
a lot of times the big fights are in Vegas,
so that's West coast time, but so they don't care
about the Eastern coast, which they That's the thing is,
(27:26):
they need to absolutely care about the East coast in
a central time. They need to do better about it.
And then a lot of the big fights these days
are like in Saudi Arabia, so they're on at like
three pm. Yeah, it is crazy. And then by the way,
you see Wresselmania is going to Saudi Arabia, not this year,
but the year after. I did not see that. There's
also the NFL is doing stuff in Saudi Arabia, like
Tom Brady and somebody else, or they're doing like flag
football stuff in Saudi Arabia. You know a lot of cash,
(27:49):
a lot of oil money over there in Saudi Arabia.
And by the way, I as live golf. Yeah, I
got to take an al on something. I never thought
the Super Bowl would ever be played overseas. I'm going
to change my mind on that. I can't be in
Saudi Arabia, can't it? And ask yourself that question again,
they might drop like a billion dollars. Canelo allegedly made
(28:09):
like two hundred and fifty million dollars for that fight.
Normally he would make like fifty million dollars if the
Saudis weren't involved, but apparently he made a quarter of
a billion dollars for one or either for one fight
or for two fights this year something like that. It's insane.
Terence Crawford won made like forty million dollars an he
won the fight. Tell me Berlin or London or any
(28:32):
one of the other mass Brazil will not want to
write the NFL a billion dollar checks. They come play
the game here. Yeah, maybe they can make it like
the I mean, the World Cup just goes as the
highest bidder. I never thought it, but I am now.
When when it gets announced, whether it be in five years,
ten years, twenty years, I won't be surprised because really,
and the reason why I probably need I changed my
(28:52):
thought on this is that the average personally, you mean,
we're not going, so why do we care where it is, right, don't?
I don't as long as it's on at five thirty
or whatever. Normal this year's going to be in Santa Clara,
it can be a new one. It's gonna be in
Miami now now if our teams are going, which the
Texas are never going to go, so that won't be
an issue. But hey, you you you don't really care
(29:12):
where we go where it is because you're not going. Now,
if your team does go and you get eight thousand tickets,
that's gonna make those eight thousand tickets, you know, the
whole trip of going is gonna be much more expensive.
But my guess is, if you're going to the Super
Bowl anyway, you can probably afford to go wherever the
game may be playing. It will probably still be sold
out wherever it is. Yeah, that way, I think you're right,
all right? Ten forty five on the Matt Thomas Show,
(29:33):
Ross seven one three two one two five is seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven nine zero.
All right, it is Matt and Ross wo with you
until two o'clock this afternoon. I just don't get it's
come up at eleven thirty seven one three two one
two five seven nine if you want to join the
conversation seven one three two one two five seven nine zero.
(29:57):
So kind of getting do a little more catch up here.
A general reaction from the audience on Tuesday after the
Texans game. I will say this, I was at a
New Jersey bar for the entire game on Monday night.
They what's going on with the Texans? You took the under.
(30:17):
I didn't make a bet on the game. It is funny, obviously.
I was in an area of town they called the
Newport area of New Jersey. This is a Jersey city
that there were no residents there. We were all from
out of town because the Yankees were playing, and ninety
percent of the television's in the bar were on the
football game. Wow. And the Yankees in the middle of
(30:38):
a pennant race themselves. I mean, they're they're trying to
secure their spot too. Everybody was upset. I mean, let's see,
the offensive line wasn't good, the running game wasn't good.
You had that long touchdown by Chubb for twenty five yards.
But then the speculation still is and now you got
like Tampa Bay writers asking a bunch of players about it,
and they think that they that the buckets allowed the
(31:01):
Texans to score. Then the defense couldn't hold on to
to Baker Mayfield in that last drive, so and Nico
Collins only had three catches after catching a spectacular touchdown
to start the game. That was an outstand First of all,
that that touchdown pass was what we saw of CJ
in his rookie season. I mean just I mean that's
(31:24):
literally thread the needle. There was no room for the court.
I mean, the cornerback did everything he possibly could. It
was great catch, perfect ball placement, and just enough of
that end zone available for Y. Yeah. And a great
catch by Nico Collins. Yeah, But after that you didn't
get much of anything from him or anybody or the
(31:45):
run game or the offensive line or other pass catchers.
Your second leading rusher in the game was c J Stroud.
Your second leading receiver was Woody Marx on one catch
for that long screen pass that he caught or check down,
whatever it was. By the way, you got a problem also, Rossie,
Woody Marks is your best blocking running back. Well, he's
(32:06):
making some stadium Pierson. It must be so bad at
it that they they made him inactive for the game.
Speaker 12 (32:11):
Now.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
Was he dealing with an injury? I couldn't recall, But
either way, I want to see some more Woody Marks.
I'm not I'm not against that either and we know
who we know who that he is, Nick Chubb. Somebody
on our group text threads said is he running in cement?
And that felt fairy. I'm glad you did that, because
(32:35):
Gordy straight up outed me. Gordy's like, well, you're the
one that said he was. You're the one that said
he was running in quick scent. I was like, yeah,
on a private group text with you guys like, and
he's like, so what, Dick Chubb's not going to find you.
I'm like, no, it's he broke a bro code. Correct,
you did it. You did it diplomatically. Yeah, even though
I didn't say anything bad that I wouldn't say on air.
(32:56):
He looked like, but I'm saying and I wouldn't bring
that up on the show if I thought we were
protecting super private information. Nick Chubb did not have a
burst on that plane. And it's funny I did not
catch some of that part b of Tampa Bay saying
well we made I let him score. Yeah, there was
there was an article today. It was from the what's
the what's the paper over there? Tampa Bay Tribune? I
(33:17):
think Tampa Tribune. Yeah, with the guy and like he
basically he's asking all the players about it, and he's
just getting smiles and winks. So because I don't know
how Nick scored, because it was it was like it
was the game. It was like you had slowed down.
You know when you when you rewind your DVR and
you can come back and you can play it back
(33:38):
at a slower speed. That's how it felt like that
play was. Now, it was nice to see him get
the end zone. I'm sure it made him feel good
and it probably supplanted him on the roster for the
rest of the year. But I was like, man, that
thing is it took a long time to develop. And
Joe mar Joe Mixon, good luck. Well, we'll look forward
(34:00):
to seeing you whenever it is. Yeah, I'm sorry. Tampa
Bay Times and Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times
just getting a bunch of winks and smiles asking everybody
if it was if they allowed them to score on purpose,
and Henry toatoll with what with an, I mean that
that miss block he had was allf and by the way,
Tampa Bay's running game just gushing the Texans alloy they
(34:22):
crushed him. Yeah, Todd Bowles answer to the question, I
don't think it matters. We won the game. That's very diplomatic. Uh,
Antoine Winfield. It was a great run by him, he said, smiling.
Like I said before, it was a good run, good
run man, good play call. Does that that comes across
(34:43):
as now? That could be one of two things. It
could be wink wink, we let him score, or be
you're giving me an out to say how bad we
sucked on that play. Yeah, Tyree Smith, it was a
good the safety. I think it was a good run,
good play for a call for what we were in.
When asked if he was going to six of that story,
he just laughed. So it sounds like to me, they
(35:04):
all have the same storyline. They're all telling the same story.
All right, we'll see it doesn't matter. It really doesn't matter.
Give the Texans a leading and then that two point
conversion play. They should have been able to that. And
the fourth down, fourth down and one third down and
one Nico Collins, I mean it was a bad throw
(35:24):
by c. J. Stroud and then the sprint left with
a right handed quarterback on fourth and one. I guess
you're trying to catch Tampay off guard. They were not
so Nick Kelly. Isn't this or not? I mean, good god,
he's getting crushed. And I follow a lot of fantasy
football people and data and he's getting crushed by all
them too, So it's a universal basically, mm hmm. Is
(35:46):
he getting as crushed as much as the Astro hitting
coaches prior to these last days? I don't know. I
thought that the hitting coaches put together some good abs
against de Gram and Merril Kelly. Not what nineteen runs
in the series. I think he's seventeen maybe, But but
six off of Kelly and five off a de Grom.
How about that thirty pitch inning in the very first
one for de Gram. Yes, so you're saying there's a
(36:08):
chance the old Astros. By the way, and I know
that Todd Cows is kind of getting goofed on because
he was talking about how the Astros could eventually maybe
make it to the two seed. He wasn't he wasn't wrong.
It's not probable, is it? Two games back? At the
game and a half now, okay, game in it? Yeah,
the Tigers are loosing, But I believe the Tigers they
have the uh tie breakers, so they'd have to flat
(36:29):
out whin the division or have a better record by
one game. So in many respects, it maybe gets two
and a half, win two out of three against the Mariners,
and win five out of six against the A's and Angels.
That can happen. It's literally laid out for him the A's.
The flag was put up what in early May. The
Angels have been The Angels are who the Angels are
for years too. There's no reason why you can't go
(36:51):
to California. The crowds will be minimal. You don't have
to worry about anybody showing up. I mean you got
maybe get some September call ups that well, that's only
two calls if you can't be mocking their flights the
king koon, Yeah, when's the damn thing? And preferably, uh,
you know, be a two seed and maybe have a
week off to rearrange your starting rotation. Then have that
heart to heart with say with Frombert. I said, look, Robert,
(37:13):
if you want to play well for your next team,
you need to show up for this team. I think
he knows that. I think he knows he's costing himself money.
If he doesn't, he's a complete fool. He's literally costing
himself millions of dollars per performance in September. Yeah, Brian
McTaggart to join us to start the second hour of
the Matt thamaschol Ross Would you like the jonas you
may do so at seven one three two one two
(37:35):
five seven Auntie seven one three two one two five
seven Anti also a reminder that coming up at eleven thirty,
I just don't get it, and I'm going after an
entire team Rossie at eleven thirty, I just don't get it.
And if for those of you that are not familiar
to that segment, it's basically, you live your life to
the best of your abilities, right, but there's sometimes there's
just some things you just don't get Rossie, and that's
(37:57):
what we're here for. If you don't get something, we
think we between the three of us can help you
out with that. Seven one three two one two five
seven onety for that that's coming up and again in
about thirty minutes from now eleven o three on Sports
Talk seven ninety Matt and Ross with you. I'm gonna
(38:17):
spend ten quality minutes with our good friend Brian mctaggard
of MLB dot Com will open up with a nice
soft one for you here, Brian. Uh, you get the
silver Boot for a day, what are you gonna do
with it? Silver boots for the day.
Speaker 3 (38:33):
Well, I think I'll take it to BUCkies and let
people take pictures of it. Because a few years ago,
when they won the Silver Boot in Arlington, the Rangers
handed the boot to the Astros and an Astros front
office employee. The Astros were going somewhere else, I was
going home, so they asked me if I could take
it home to Houston, and I told them I would
stop at BUCkies with it on the way, and ended
(38:55):
up I didn't have to take it. But I regret
I never got that chance to take the boot the BUCkies.
Speaker 2 (38:59):
I mean, because I'm I want to say, if there's
anybody that has seen as many Silver Boot games in person,
it has to be you, right, I would think so.
Speaker 3 (39:08):
I mean, I think I've seen pretty much every one
of them since since probably ever.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
So yeah, I'm saying, I mean, I'm trying to give
you your flowers here, my friend, just say, yeah, I've
been every one of them because I own this town.
Baseball wise, yeah, well I don't know about that.
Speaker 3 (39:23):
But it's been a weird series because The Rangers used
to kill the Ash for years and years, and now
now the Astra is a one at nine in a row,
and it's pretty hard to believe these teams now have
the exact same record against each other in the regular season.
Speaker 2 (39:35):
So it's been a it's been a fun ribery, all right,
before we get to the on the field play for
those that are just catching up. But I've been out
of town a little bit the last couple of days.
But looking at your Twitter and the stories, what does
your gut tell you about Jordan's injury situation, and what
does your gut tell you about the East like Peretti's
potential return.
Speaker 3 (39:57):
Uh, my gut tells me Parretis will return, and I
think it could be soon, and Alvarez will not be
back until playoffs at earliest, and I think they might
have to go a little ways in the playoffs. I mean,
what Joe Spottas said yesterday pregame about Paretta's all seemed
really positive if you're the Astros, and you know, I
(40:17):
think Joe even used the word soon that he could
be back. So he even talked about, hey can he run?
You know how you know he's but two months removed
from that hamstring? Can he run? And Joe said, well,
I'm not gonna ask him to run. They're gonna need
him to twit the bat. If he grounds shortstop, you know,
he's gonna jog the first base if he But if
he hits a homer, you can jog around all the bases.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
So they're gonna have to be smart with the way
they use them.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
But yeah, I think I think there's a pretty good
chance within the next few days we'll have Perettis in
the lineup. But I don't stee of a returning before
the playoffs at the earliest, and even then, I think
it could be you know, Division Series lcs before they
have a chance to get him back. And what about
your don Oh that's what I mean. I meant Jordan. Yeah,
(41:01):
I meant your Yoda. I don't see Jordan on return.
Ok I gotcha, Okay, I got yay. Yeah, sorry, I
got the name right, Yeah, all right, I think it'll
be it'll be a little bit of play, all right.
Speaker 2 (41:10):
Brian mctagger at MLB dot Com with us here on
the Matt Thomas Show with Ross. Uh So, I mean, look,
it's easy to say, uh, how they do it well.
The bats showed up, and we have been trying to
at least Ross and I for a better part of a month.
Is it gonna be the pitching it's going to carry.
Is it gonna be the relief, Is it going to
be the defense? Is it going to be the health
(41:30):
of returning players that have been gone for a long while.
To me, this felt like this was three games where
the Astros offense just showed up. It's a kind of
a up and down roller coaster team offensively this entire season,
and right now they're catching it at a good time
because the bats against really good pitching. I mean, the
Rangers line their their rotation up for this series and
(41:51):
the Astros uh beat some pretty good people to kind
of push the Rangers for their back in the wild
card chase.
Speaker 3 (41:58):
Yeah, and I think that's the how they're gonna do this.
If they're gonna make a long playoff run, they're gonna
have to jump out to early leads like they did
against the Arrangers. They scored in the first inning every
time they never trailed in the series.
Speaker 2 (42:11):
They're gonna have to come up with clutch hits.
Speaker 3 (42:13):
This is their blueprint to victory and then just have
their starting pitching and their relief pitching be just good enough.
You know, I think they set the tone in Atlanta
with those first two games. You know, remember they went
into Atlanta and I think they had scored four runs
in their previous eight games or something eight games. Eight
runs in the previous four games. I mean, they were
really struggling. Scored eleven in that first game in Atlanta.
(42:34):
UH did pretty well in the second game, but I
think that sort of set the tone for where they're
at now. And you know, some really good at bats
against the Grom in that first inning to get us
pitch count up to thirty five pitches, Jeremy Panya laying off,
you know, a couple of sliders early and then he
was able to able to get a you know, a
double to get that inning going. You go back to
(42:55):
September sixth, when they faced the Grom. H de Grom
came out pounding sliders. UH struck out three guys in
the first inning on sliders. You can tell the Astros
We're not gonna let him do that. And that's gonna
be crucial because they're gonna face a lot of this
this caliber pitching in the playoffs, and even this weekend
against the Mariners. It seems so they're gonna have to
have that same disciplined approach.
Speaker 2 (43:16):
It seems like an X factor, of course, is also
going to be Zach Cole oh for his last five
but we know he's got some some lightning in his back.
Keep asking you about your gut feeling, I mean, uh,
how do you think this plays out for him down
the stretch?
Speaker 1 (43:29):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (43:30):
Ross, It's gonna be interested because the kids obviously pretty fearless.
So I'm kind of anxious to see what he can
do this weekend. I mean, I'm sure he's gonna be
in the lineup once or twice. But then then again,
he he you know, these are very these are huge games,
and he's still trying to feel his way through the
big leagues and and uh, and he's facing all all
this elite pitching when he'd barely been a triple A.
(43:51):
I mean, all of a sudden, he's facing the grom
and you know, Luis Castillo and Brian Wu maybe tomorrow night.
So uh, this is the best pitching he's ever faced
in his life. And he's he's having figured out figured
out in games that matter hugely to the Astros. So,
but I mean he's not he's he's he's not scared
of anything, So I you know, I think the Astros
(44:12):
will give him a shot at least in one or
two of these games and see what he can do.
Speaker 2 (44:16):
Brian McTaggart Astros dot Com with us here on Sports
Talk seven to ninety. On the pitching side, it feels
like this time of year, we're always talking about how
the playoff rotation is going to line up, so asking
you about that and then specifically with Fromber, if he's
really good the next couple of starts, I think he's
the two guy. If he's really bad, how much do
you think he can slide? And what if he's just
kind of somewhere in between.
Speaker 3 (44:39):
Yeah, I still think if he has a couple of
good starts under his belt, then yeah, he's going to
be the number two guy. You know, Alexander can't take
anything away.
Speaker 2 (44:47):
From what he did.
Speaker 3 (44:47):
I mean, they're they're winning every time he takes the ball,
and that's what we want as well. And you know,
Christian Javier Is he has two pretty good starts under
his belt now six innings. I think he's a guy
that maybe the best end of their rotation, if you
need a four starter would be in there as well.
Speaker 2 (45:02):
But yeah, I mean, I think the.
Speaker 3 (45:04):
Next two starts are pretty huge for Fromber to see
just where he will slot.
Speaker 2 (45:08):
In in the playoff rotation.
Speaker 3 (45:10):
I mean, a lot of it's going to depend on
how they use them in that final week of the
season where they you know, do they have to use
them in the final weekend and in Anaheim if they
have to win those games and it looks like this
thing definitely will go down to the wire, and you
know it might that might decide for them how they line.
Speaker 2 (45:25):
Up their playoff rotation for the wild.
Speaker 3 (45:26):
Card series if you know, if they have to, you know,
use Hunter Brown or Fromber in the last couple of.
Speaker 2 (45:31):
Days of the regular season. What do you see with
maybe Peretti is coming back. How much jose L two
a DH will we see between now and the end
of the season, regardless of whether or not the parties
can come back.
Speaker 3 (45:44):
I mean, I think if Preda's comes back, he's going
to d H. I don't see him play in the field.
I mean, he's not going to play third base over Korea.
I mean, I guess I guess he probably wouldn't DH
every game and then and then maybe that's where you
can get too Bay back in the DH spot and
off second base. But I don't I don't think Paratis
is gonna He's obviously not gonna play short, second or first,
(46:05):
and you're not gonna take care off third. So uh,
pretis is gonna be d H only will he play
every game? It maybe depends how he feels how he's
swinging the bat. But jose L two Bay has played
a lot more second base in the second half of
the season as he did in the first, and I
think in the playoffs that's what.
Speaker 2 (46:22):
We'll see him.
Speaker 3 (46:23):
I think it'll be interested if they have a lead
in a playoff game, you know, do they do they
pull Al two Bay and put Urius or Dubon or
somebody who's a little bit better in their defensively. You
know that remains to be seen. But you know, having
that bat partis in the lineup. If he can just
work counts and use that pool power and hit the
ball close to the way he did before he got injured,
(46:43):
that could be a game changer.
Speaker 2 (46:45):
All right. Size up the bullpen. It feels like to me,
especially with the way Brian King has pitched really all
season long, and the fact that somebody guys have been hurt.
He's your eighth inning guy, I bray you as your ninth. Generally,
give me your thoughts about what you've seen from this bullpen.
I would say the undertone to me is it's really
been heavily worked and you need somebody to give you
(47:06):
one or two of those guys this weekend, to give
you some length to give these guys a rest, especially
if they're gonna have to play another bullpen game sometime
next week out in California.
Speaker 3 (47:15):
Yeah, they do, and I think the best thing that
could happen for them is if they if they can
run down the Tigers and get the number two seed,
which is now back and play. I mean, they're only
a game and a half behind the Tigers, and then
you get that buye and now you're gonna rest everybody
for five days before you start the division series.
Speaker 2 (47:31):
But you know, they have a couple of guys in.
Speaker 3 (47:33):
The bullpen now who can give them multiple inning outings.
We've seen it, you know, from Colton Gordon. JP Franz
can throw two or three in so you know, I
think Guys like that could be important here over the
next week if it's a blowout, or even if it's not,
if you just need somebody to give you two innings
to make that bridge to you get the king and
get to break you. You now have guys that are
(47:54):
capable of doing that. But you know, if they have
to fight tooth and nail all the way down the
next Sunday and use all these guys over the week
next weekend in Anaheim and they get on a plane
and go to Seattle or go to New York or whatever,
it could be really really tough. So I know there
was one Astro's uniform member. It told me he was
(48:14):
watching the Detroit game closer than any other score because
they feel they can run down the Tigers and get
that number two seed, which would be absolutely massive because
you would get the days off and you'd open the
division series at home.
Speaker 2 (48:28):
And one more question about the pitching aj blue Ball.
Where do you do you think he could start a
game in the postseason? Do you think he's just going
to be a long relief What kind of type of
role do you think he has down the stretch and
in the postseason?
Speaker 3 (48:39):
Yeah, I don't I don't think he'll be a starter,
but yeah, I see him as long relief. Somebody gets
in trouble, fourth or fifth, you know, you bring in
blue Ball to you know, throw those three and inns,
throw ninety seven to ninety eight, get that bridge. He
could be a huge weapon in the playoffs. He's a
fresh arm. He's another one of these guys who's absolutely fearless.
His stuff plays up in the bullpen more than it
(48:59):
does when he was starting. So they don't have the
you know, the one inning relievers they had earlier in
the season with Susa and Hater and Ort being out.
But now they have these multi ning guys, and when
you get to the playoffs, you can really manipulate the
way you use your bullpen. Where these guys are are
real weapons. So I think blue Ball is going to
(49:20):
be a big part of that.
Speaker 2 (49:21):
All right, in thirty seconds, give me your crystal ball
thoughts about, well, how this weekend is going to go down?
Speaker 3 (49:29):
Yeah, Astros, I think are playing their best baseball since June.
The Mariners are not a good road team. I think
they've had their hot streak. I think the Astros win
two out of three. That will set them up very
well to go on a road trip against two teams
that are out of it. So yeah, I think the
Astros win two out of three, get a little bit
of a lead in first base and first place, and
(49:49):
I think they win the division. I think they close
this thing out. If they don't, they just have themselves
to blame, because after all they've been through here, they
are with what ten games to go, nine games to go,
their signer in first place nine so they get they
got a chance to control their own state here, that's possible.
Speaker 2 (50:08):
Great stuff is always friend to look forward to hearing
with you and Ross tomorrow night before the Astros Mariners
series from daik In Park. Thanks, and we'll talk to
you soon. Thanks. Tags appreciate it all right, Thanks Brian
mctagger with us here on Sports Talk seven ninety eleven
fifteen is our time. I just don't get it coming
up at the bottom of the hour. What did you
get in life?
Speaker 1 (50:25):
Ross?
Speaker 2 (50:26):
A lot? All right? Well, we want to go look
forward to hearing things from you coming up in just
a little bit seven one three two one two five
seven nintie seven one three two one two five seven
ninety If you want to talk about anything that mister
Tagger had to say, come in on that Texans chatter.
Certainly welcome all along the way. Plus, I want to
give you a couple of tidbits from my NBA broadcast
meetings which I thought were interesting about how we are
(50:50):
going to see television now, especially in the NBA. And
then we'll have out. I just don't get it coming
up at the bottom of the hour seven one three
two one two five seven Natti, that's seven one three
two one two five seven ninety Hi, Rossy's giving me
a little tease before the segment began. Bill Barnwell not
(51:11):
a friend of the show, an enemy, Not an enemy.
I mean, I'm kind of just a guy. I think
the name is vaguely familiar with people, ESPN Bill Barnwell,
ANFL writer. Und I think you'd see him. You go
not see him, but maybe you heard the name. Oh yeah,
that sounds familiar.
Speaker 9 (51:29):
M hm.
Speaker 2 (51:29):
So please explain when mister Barnwell was able to decide.
He wrote an article that I was checking out called
ranking the ten winless in FL teams, Chief Bears and
others at zero to two in terms of likelihood for
them to make the playoff. Now, remember this is a
one man's opinion. Yes, this is not an aggregate story.
This is him writing a story. Well, I think they
(51:51):
might also be using the ESPN FPI playoff odds chance playoffs.
I don't know, maybe they're not. Yeah, I think this
is Bill Barnwell's story. Okay, of course he's got the
Chiefs at number one out of the ten teams that
are oh and two most likely to make the Playoffsky,
I mean they're gonna make it. They're Andy Reid, Pat
mahomest cetera. Although you know, I know they're gonna make youse.
(52:12):
I think they're talented. They're in the most difficult division. Now,
would you care to guess where the Texans are?
Speaker 12 (52:18):
Now?
Speaker 2 (52:18):
Of course, there's a lot of bad o in two
teams like Dolphins and Panthers. Yeah, like teams that have
no chance. There's ten oh and two teams. I will
give you a hint in a way, the ranking for
Bill Barnwell surprised me. Third second, and can I give
(52:39):
you a deduction as to why that is? Okay, South,
that's part of it. Although the cults are to it. Oh,
but is it legit? I mean they should be one
and one if the Denver does ain't called for that
launching penalty. That's true. They lose the game, that's true,
but they still got the game. They still want it.
And by the way, they beat Miami in Week one,
and Miami sucks, I mean, really super pion Miami does supersuck.
(53:02):
But hey, Daniel Jones is looking good. The Broncos have
one of the best defenses in the planet, and Daniel
Jones look pretty good, and Jonathan Taylor is running wild.
They have one of the best offensive lines in football.
They've got a great running game, and Daniel Jones is
looking pretty good. Two weeks in, they're better than the
Texans right now. Okay, and they're two games up. Is
there an explanation as to why the Texans got They
have them number two, they have the Bears number three,
(53:25):
And it's like a it's like a thousand words, but
basically part of the talking about getting the running game going,
talking about C. J. Stroud, the offensive line jelling and
stuff like that, and also the opponents that they played.
Rams are probably winning their division, Buccaneers are probably winning
their division. Yeah no, And so while I believe the
(53:48):
AFC South competition will help them, they're not getting any
breaks ROSSI because they are playing a first place schedule.
They still have to play Baltimore in a couple who
else is really daunting? They still have They get the Chiefs,
they get the Bills. Eventually. The schedule's tough. It's a
(54:09):
first place schedule, so it's supposed to be tough. Yeah, okay,
but the AFC South will set you free. But the
rest of the list is not great. Texans might just
be best to the rest. He then he goes to Bears, Dolphins, Giants,
and then who's six? Oh no, the Giants six here anyways?
(54:33):
Like Panthers are seven. It's it's a list of bad teams. Okay, So,
I mean, I didn't think the season was over when
they went to and two, but it's gonna be much
more of a grind. Is the season over if they
go to and three? You'll have to wait till next
Tuesday forgot feelings on that because I'm not gonna say
it right now. Okay, is it a must win game
(54:56):
in Jacksonville this weekend for the Houston tex You understand, though,
what are the percentages of teams that go owing three
to make the playoffs. I'm sure they're very low. The
Texans aren't very good right now. And if you can't
beat the Jaguars, who aren't good, and by the way,
they're underdogs in that game. By the way, you go
ahead Jacksonville every year and beat them. So why would
you win when things dramatically change? I have predicted the
(55:17):
Texans to win this game. Well, that's because you're a
better right ross of course, my gun seven ninety Mike,
good morning, good morning.
Speaker 1 (55:26):
You gotta win in September.
Speaker 12 (55:27):
Play in October, right, Well.
Speaker 11 (55:32):
You can't talk about the Texans because there'll be two
and seven after nine games schedule, Look at the play
what's gonna happen.
Speaker 12 (55:40):
I love crowd.
Speaker 11 (55:41):
I love to meet the Ryans, but there'll be an outclassed,
out coached, and outrun and out trained. These guys are running.
Speaker 2 (55:49):
Over them right now.
Speaker 11 (55:50):
They're done asros. However, this is their season. This is
what they do at the end of the season when
they're under pressure, they make it happen, and they're I
think they're gonna push through. I think they're gonna take
six out of these nine and we'll be in the
playoffs with Detroit will faltered and we'll get the second seed.
So we'll get our home game for the first round
(56:12):
of divisionals playoffs. Let me tell let me know what
you think, all right, thank you?
Speaker 2 (56:16):
You know what. Honestly, Ross and I don't. It's hard
to predict baseball because again, the best the worst teams
can beat the best teams almost every seing, anything can happen.
They need to win this division. I mean, they they
you have Seattle at home. Seattle is not not not
good on the road. They're poor on the road. Okay,
mm hmm. And you're going to two cities that gave
(56:37):
up on their seasons three months ago. I mean, it's
just laid out for them. Uh yes, Seattle. Now, of
course they are on the road, so you do have
the advantage there. But then they got three with Colorado
and then three with the Dodgers. Dodgers who might be
locked into their spot. They're two in front of San Diego.
So we need kind of the Dodgers to just hang
(56:59):
in there for a while to make it to make
it want to play. Yeah, the Dodgers are not catching
the Phillies or Brewers. Those teams have ninety plus wins. Yeah,
uh no, they they need to regress this weekend and
make sure those games with the Seattle Mariagers mean something
that'd be nice, because Seattle is excellent at home as
bad as their on the road. They are as good
(57:19):
at home. Now, you got me catch checking the Dodgers schedule.
They got the Giants for four, Arizona for three, and
then Seattle for three. All right, so we cannot okay,
I'll say it. We're not going able to rely on
the Dodgers. They're gonna be playing, you know, twenty four
(57:40):
six men on the rosters and Diamondbacks are about playing
five hundred ball. Yeah, all right, Rossi and Jonathan, I've
got a simple question for both of you. What don't
you get in your life? And you'll find out next.
You'll find out next if there's something in your life
you don't get. We're here because we are of three
different generations. We can help you with these things.
Speaker 1 (57:57):
Huh.
Speaker 2 (57:57):
I am, of course, to sage one of the three
of us three two one two five seven ninety seven
to one three two one two five seven ninety I
just don't get it. What don't you get? We're here
to help you here on Sports Talk seven ninety eleven
thirty five on Sports Talk seven ninety. It is a
man in Ross with you Jonathan here as well as
(58:19):
our producer. We look forward to having all of you
with us today until two o'clock the News and Noon
is coming up in about twenty five minutes. Also, we've
got the Rotten five to twelve fifty and I will
be handling today's edition. To believe it not all things
about Robert Redford for Trans Siberian orchestraer tickets. Uh one,
we'll really go without saying. And this happened yesterday in
(58:40):
my flight. We were a three hour on the runway
at Newark. As the weather past, it gave the person
sitting I was on a row with three seats. I
was on a window. This gentleman was on the aisle
and he took his shoes off and kept them off
for the entire flight. I don't get why anybody thinks
(59:04):
that's even a decent thing to do. Ever, while you're putting,
taking your shoes off on planes is ridiculous. First of all,
the planes are filthy. Second of all, this isn't your couch,
this isn't your easy chair in your house. You're on
a plane. Taking your shoes off is stupid. I just
don't get it. I'm with you and didn't.
Speaker 4 (59:21):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (59:22):
Somebody was telling me because when I went to Flu
to Korea it was like a fifteen hour flight. They
were telling me that everybody takes their their shoes off,
which is not true. I don't get it either. Now,
if I had a fifteen hour flight like you did,
I probably would bring a pair of slippers, because I
think being intended shoes of fifteen hours. Yeah, that would
because I had some hotel slippers, but I didn't actually
even use them. I just it was fine. I just
(59:42):
slept the whole time. Okay, that's good. I'm glad, thank
you for your service. On that You're welcome. I just
don't get why you need to think. I mean again, look,
maybe a Paris, Austroia, Sam, you know, Brazil, whatever, but
it was Newark to Houston. Come on, now, do you
think that you should make an announcement? I just think
(01:00:06):
it's I think it's off putting. But maybe I'm wrong.
I just don't get it. My second one, okay, And
I was not alone in this, and the the reason
why I brought this up was specifically for what happened yesterday.
We were at the NBA broadcast meetings, and there were
some people saying, well, this person's going to this network.
This person is leaving this job to go to this network,
(01:00:26):
which in the best one of the producers from one
of the regional sports networks is leaving to go be
a producer and director for the Savannah Bananas. Oh, congratulations
to them. And a buddy of mine who's a fellow
colleague of mine in the NBA turning, was sitting in
front of me, Terri and says the Savannah Bananas, I
just don't get it. And I thought to myself, I
(01:00:49):
don't get it either. Now. I know they're the baseball
version of the Harlem Globetrotters, but and I know the
Hallam Globetrotters are celebrating one hundred years and graduations for
them on that But once you've seen the Cardan Glowchotters,
once you their bit hasn't changed. I mean, they throw
popcorn on you, they make fun of the fat referee,
(01:01:12):
they dribble a user, and then next finger they dance
around with some stuff. It's pretty tired. I've tried to
go watch a Savannah Banana game on TV and I'm
looking at it going this is the hardon glowchtters of baseball,
and there are fifty sixty thousand people in these stadiums
that are watching this stuff. So the question I have
for both of you is, Savannah Bananas, I just don't
(01:01:35):
get it. I would say that children's for the kids. Yeah,
that would be the mostly the way I would say,
I kind of get it. I'm with you, like I've
watched it. Maybe you just gotta be there cause I don't.
I don't find entertaining on TV. And now I've never
(01:01:55):
been to a game, so maybe I would change my tube.
The problem is when you find out that the Savannah
Bananas are going to your favorite ballpark, like people will
run to their Facebook. I've got to get to the
bananas going to NFL stadiums, Yeah, and there. I've got
to get these seats and I will pay whatever it cost.
I'm sorry, I'm not going to rose Ball to watch
the Bananas play for two hundred and forty four hours
(01:02:17):
a ticket. Now, again, maybe I would change my tune
if I went to the game. But Rossie, I watch
one hundred and fifty baseball games a year at least.
Why do I want to watch gimmicky stuff? Just don't
get it. I don't get it, but I guess my
answer only answer would be, it's for the kids. For
the kids, Matt Wu Tang's for the kids, Yes, exactly
(01:02:40):
what I was thinking of the East second Wu Tang.
Definitely for the kids. All right, uh ROSSI E're up
next one. Don't you get my I got a couple
of things, well actually both sports related. By the way,
if you don't have something you don't get let us
know at seven one three two one two five seven
ninti seven one three two one two five seven ninety
quick one. What's happening with Esuck Prede. I don't get it.
(01:03:00):
He's gonna come back and he's gonna d h sometimes
but not the other times and just be used as
a pinch hitter. And he can't run on the base pack,
he can't go second home, he can't go first to third.
Is it just going to be a specialty pinch hit?
I kind of don't get what's happening. No, I do.
I think it's they're just gonna they're going to drain that.
But when have you seen this? Never? So what I'm saying,
(01:03:21):
like Gibson, that was a pinch hit right, Yeah, what
is it drained? The turnip? Is that what it is?
Get the last little like you know what it is?
A squeeze? Well, they blood out of a turnip. I
got you one. You have that bottle of Ketchup in
your refrigerator you've turned upside down? Yes, I do. And
(01:03:41):
you know it's not really gonna work. And I can
give you the massive consumption of Ketchup you want at
h B. Black Pepper. Ketchup is elite, but you'll squeeze
it one more time to get that one little drip.
That's what I'm doing. The the est such part is
is that bottle of Ketchup in your refrigerator that has
nothing left, but you're looking to get one little squeeze
out of it?
Speaker 7 (01:03:58):
Wow?
Speaker 2 (01:03:58):
Well can he even swing the bat if he's he
can't even walk? Well, I mean he's obviously smoking the bat.
He's been rehabbing for weeks out of this, So I
mean there's gonna be something going on. So I will
say this, while I don't disagree with you, Yeah, I
kind of get it. I just don't know what. I
just don't know how that's gonna plan. They just missed
bats terribly and then a quick one also sports related.
I mentioned earlier like Canel Alvarez has made like a
(01:04:19):
quarter billion dollars for boxing for these Saudi Arabian fights.
Now when they have him in Saudi Arabia, kind of
get it. But this fight was in Las Vegas at
Allegiant Stadium. Why is And that's that's a gross overpay
for something. They're taking a financial loss on this. The
Saudi Arabian conglomerate that's doing this. Okay, why are they
(01:04:40):
doing this? I don't get it. Yeah, that's off my
that's out of my pay. Yeah, I don't. I mean
if somebody could explain it to me, I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:04:46):
More attention to like just more attention to Saudi Arabia
and like how you know they're how.
Speaker 2 (01:04:51):
Everything's cool but you can't even can't even drink of it,
Like who are these Saudi Arabians? We do we even know?
We even know who they are? And some princes and
some sheeks and whatnot. They obviously got a lot of
oil money. I just don't get what the endgame is.
I guess they just like boxing. They're like, yeah, sure,
here's quarter billion dollars. Canal, Like, how do how does
the Saudi Arabian money like to live golf and all that? Like,
(01:05:13):
what's the end game with live golf? Just just to
compete with the PGA they got turning a profit? Are
they exactly what I'm saying? Like, there's I would say
there's there's very little chance they they turn to profit.
Giving Canelo a quarter of billion dollars and Terrence Crawford
forty to fifty million dollars. How much did Netflix Netflix
pay for that fight? Couldn't have been that much. No,
(01:05:34):
I go with you. I don't get that either. I don't.
I don't get unless they're just blowing money because they
can say they can't. Yeah, I'm not even trying to
be I'm not trying to be negative at all. I
just I just need to explain to me what the
end game is. Yeah, because they're not promoting trip going
to Saudi Arabia to hang out, no, yea, Yeah, when
the fight is in Saudi Arabian they want to attract
tourism and have people come see that that riot or
(01:05:56):
whatever is is a cool place to come visit or
or you know, Abu Dhabi or whatever. I kind of
get that, But when the fight's in Vegas. I don't know.
I don't get, Okay, Jonathan, my friend, well don't you
get this week? Uh?
Speaker 6 (01:06:12):
I really don't get why people paint themselves all over
before a football team, even even like I saw on Monday.
It's Monday night. Why are you shirtless? Is painted all
over for the Texans? And I just don't any team really.
Speaker 2 (01:06:29):
I just called their glory Hounds. I was gonna use
the phrase attention seeking, but we're on the same page,
Like is that not I look, I just I don't
you get a bucket of paint and you start I
don't know, And does someone else apply for you? I
just I don't know. Yeah. Uh no, you're you're you're
you're an attention seeking whore. That's what you are. I mean,
(01:06:50):
that's what Texans Darlene is. Texans Darlene doesn't know the team,
She has no idea who the players are. She just
wants to dress up and scream go Texans for for
four hours. That's what That's what attention seeking horrores do.
But that but you know what, honestly, Johnathan, that's any team,
that's just that's just I don't know, man, I don't know.
(01:07:11):
I look at you differently. Hm hmmm, All right, there
you go. What don't you get, Ladies and gentlemen seven
one three two one two five seven ninety. If you
want to chime in seven one three two one two
five seven ninety. If there's something in your life you
just don't get, we are here for you to help
you out. News at Noon is coming up seven one
three two one two five seven aunty, what don't you get?
(01:07:34):
We can help you here on Sports Talk seven ninety.
All right, what don't you get? We're looking for you
right now. It's seven one three two one two five
seven ninety. The News at Noon is coming up next. Rossi.
The Astros are still standing and for at least for
a short time, all by themselves atop the American League West.
At the moment, Seattle and Kansas City play one ten
(01:07:56):
game in Kansas City. Let's Go Royal. Let's Go Royals.
Probably frequent updates on the A team unless they can
do a deep dive of the Texans offensive line Seattle
minus one twenty Kansas City even Luis Castillo versus Stephen
Kollik HM Royal's top five uniforms. They get the advantage
(01:08:19):
of overs Seattle. Okay, in today, let's go to what
James on seven ninety eleven fifty James, what do you
not get?
Speaker 5 (01:08:28):
I don't get how how great Ross is when you're
not there. He's so nice, he's so kind. He praised
the Kruger's quarterback. He gave the Aggies a backhanded compliment
by saying, nice one over there, Dame, which defense could
have been better. And then then he took on his
own team and told everything he was wrong with the
Texas Longhorns. Soon was I was like, hellll, let's go.
I was expecting that the way in the background, Ross
(01:08:49):
is a totally different person when you're not with me.
Speaker 2 (01:08:51):
You know what, Maybe he's in a Maybe he's in
a better spot. Thank you, James, thanks for telling us
about the time that I was gone. Are you a
nicer person when I'm not here? I don't think so. Okay,
I mean all those things were true. The long words
have been terrible. It was a nice win by the Aggies.
Cougar's a nice win over Colorado. I did say a
nice win, but I don't think I said anything nice
about Connor Wegman because I didn't really watch the game.
(01:09:13):
But I mean I'm wishing him the best. Yeah, tell
you what, U taxa Tech beat Utah in Salt Lake
this week and then the Cougars run through Oregon State.
We could have Little Texta Tech Houston for supremacy in
the Big twelve over the week. Yes, a couple weeks. Well,
depending on what's going with the Astros. I'm just gonna
ask you for tickets to that game. No, that's not correctly.
(01:09:34):
Why not because I already give him men away? Well
did you said you could give me some? Yeah, but
you hate the Cougars. No, I'll be rooting for him
if I go were you really? We wear you of
a shirt? No? No, all right, well I'll wear a
red shirt. I'll wear a Cougar red shirt. I have one.
It's a seven ninety shirt. It's got a seven ninety
logo on it. That's a fair compromise. But what if
(01:09:56):
I go get you a shirt University Houston shirt? Would
you wear it? Say? No, I won't impact your ticket status.
Oh yes, I will wear it. Tickets terrible? You can't
give me tickets. Okay, it's gonna be it's it's gonna
be even. It's gonna be even fuller than the texts
(01:10:19):
than the game against Colorado, because text tech will brings
people down. That's true, and that's the reason. Why don't
you want people there who aren't gonna I'm not rooting
for the Red Raiders. I don't care. Damn sure, I don't.
I don't care who in a bill now forty people.
I'm r in for Houston over Texas Tech for sure. Right, well,
your son took your tickets. That may be accurate. See,
you need somebody there to combat. You know he's gonna
(01:10:40):
be rooting for the Red Raiders. No, but he'd They're
in a suite, so it won't be an issue. Oh okay, fine,
I guess I'm won't go and I'll get you some tickets.
And well, I mean, look at the Astros are playing.
I can't go right and hopefully the Astros are playing.
Let me ask you this is there again? There are
a game in that there are a game and a
half out behind Detroit, so they have to win. They
(01:11:01):
have to be a game better than Detroit. They would
lose the timebreaker. H It's not probable, but it's certainly
better than a pipe dream. Detroit's got Cleveland. I think twice. Well,
they got Cleveland day, I'm gonna pull it up. And
Cleveland wants to be in the playoffs. They're in the
wild card chase. They're fighting with Boston for that last
wild card spot. Continue hold on, I'm gonna pull it
(01:11:24):
back up. Yeah, finishing with the Cleveland and then they
have Atlanta at all oh gez three at Cleveland, three
at Boston, who is fighting for a wildcard spot. That's spicy,
say this extra wildcard. It didn't like it, but it
makes things more interesting. I'll be honest with you. I've
(01:11:45):
liked it since the jump. It delights, it dilutes, It
dilutes the playoffs, but it makes more fan bases invested
and more players and more especially smaller market teams keeping
their players keeping invested. So it's good. And the best
part of it is ROSSI is that, uh, you get
these things done very quickly. I mean you get Monday
off and then you play wild card games. I mean
(01:12:06):
you could be out by Wednesday. We unfortunately what that's about.
And by the way, at the Astros would like to
play some one oh five first pitches or twelve o'clock.
I was thinking about eleven thirty. They don't do eleven
thirty ROSSI okay, ten thirty ten, they could do a
tenele five first place Little morning baseball. Who would to
be up for that? You didn't Mountain Town? Know what
do you do?
Speaker 1 (01:12:26):
You do?
Speaker 2 (01:12:27):
You go get your breakfast? Yes, you go to your
tennel five and you're done by one o'clock. You're at
the office by two. You still put a four or
five hour day in breakfast baseball. Sounds good to me. Well, yeah,
I guess they could play early on the fourth. What
time is that game? No, they we don't know yet. Oh,
it hasn't been out. There's a chance it could be
a big newon kickoff. Okay, well maybe I can make that.
(01:12:48):
You want to be there for that? You want to
go see how well that Cody all that money, Cody
Campbell spend it on Texas Tech. I'll be rooting for
the Cougars. Can we clip that please? There's like a
watershed moment during this specific game against the Red Raiders.
So why why are you just because you just don't
like the Red Raiders. Yeah, I've hated the Red Raiders
for years, back to the Big twelve days. By the way,
(01:13:09):
what are we gonna end the tortillas bit. Never you
think so. I think it's part of the charm of
what tax attacks. It's not jack to do in Lubbock.
So gouds, We'll bring us a tartillas. It could be hilarious. Yeah,
I mean think about this. They had a massive delay
for rain last week. All those tortillas were wet, soggy, soggy.
(01:13:30):
I've never enjoyed a soggy tortilla, have you? Oh? Somebody
says uh atx Obo girl says you, is you have
h wearing H Town blue that game? I believe they are.
Oh well, okay, I got Hetown blue. I got a
shirt that says h Town and it's it's like the
old Rockets. One go wear that. Hmm. Or I could
give you tickets for your birthday. I not just give
(01:13:51):
you some cash, Okay, fair enough. I don't want tickets
to a game. I don't have much of a rooting interest.
But you want to be there because it is America Stadium,
So it's a it's it's it will be the place
to be in America. Let's say there's not a bad
seat in the house. There isn't. It's very small, it's intimate,
it's quaint, yeah, because it's not big time football. But
that's a big time foot Bok, big Football, Big twelve Saturday,
(01:14:14):
let's go eleven o'clock, Big newon kickoff. Joe claud will
be here. He'll probably want to come on the shoe
won't come on the showves to pay him a lot,
you know, I don't want that. It's forty k. Some
some programs get one hundred k for like even when
Sam Houston comes into town. That's because you've got nothing
else to do in Austin, Texas. I mean, you might
as well get your might as well get your same
Houston wons, cause you ain't get a bunch of SEC wins.
(01:14:35):
And I don't think so. Chris on seven on a Chris,
what don't you get?
Speaker 1 (01:14:41):
I don't get tipping at a drive through?
Speaker 13 (01:14:45):
I mean, come on, you pay, you pay four dollars
for a coffee and they're going to put that little
reader in your face.
Speaker 2 (01:14:53):
Who's doing that?
Speaker 12 (01:14:53):
Is that?
Speaker 2 (01:14:54):
Is that? Is that our Rocks that's doing that? Or
somebody else?
Speaker 1 (01:14:57):
Starbucks? Man, Starbucks?
Speaker 13 (01:14:59):
Every time.
Speaker 2 (01:15:00):
It's funny because I use zero percent. I I use
my app very so they don't ask me for a
tip and I use my phone.
Speaker 13 (01:15:08):
Oh every time I do that, they put it up there.
And the first option before you can even get to
the point where you sign off on the card is
do you want to tip the ladies at the at
the at the fast food they had a little cup outside,
now a little tip cup at a drive through. I'm
not paying four dollars for a meal and then tipping
for you know, two dollars.
Speaker 2 (01:15:29):
Yeah, then done. I don't.
Speaker 13 (01:15:31):
But it's just it's annoying, you know. It's like it's like, well,
I give most people money.
Speaker 2 (01:15:39):
Well I'm keep doing it. Yeah, I'm not annoyed by it.
I just do. I just if I don't feel like
they deserve a tip, I don't give them a tip.
I don't. I'm not annoyed by it. I just I mean,
it's one extra step. Jonathan, I know you're annoyed about it,
because you will. They call you mister cortunity around these parts.
You just quite what I said if they did a
good job, did I did? I?
Speaker 8 (01:15:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:15:59):
Yeah, he said the same thing you said, Matt. Yeah,
you're on the same page. We are on the same page.
That's why Jonathan and I are brothers. Much younger from
from Yeah, you're more of his grandpa. I believe that
is not true at all. I think you're old enough
to be his grandpa. That's what sixty seven maybe, Oh
my god, I hate you, Paul. No, you're not. Yeah,
(01:16:21):
it's up to you. I give him a little bit.
I understand if people don't want to. It is what
it is. Yeah, yeah, it's if you're in a hurry.
Well then maybe you're a little upset by the one. Actually,
what if you're getting like a mocha frappuccino with you know,
two splindids and three sugars. I mean it takes a
little time, little craft, right, Yeah, tip your bartender. Yeah,
(01:16:42):
but I don't do I'm not a super big time
like if the if the beer is nine forty, I'll
give him eleven. Yeah, it seems like what's a beer? Yeah,
it depends. I'll tip more for like a craft cocktail place.
Of course, here's why I will not tip. I'll give
you this one, okay, concession stance. I'll take two cokes
(01:17:03):
and a popcorn boom. I don't I mean, I don't
know much more than that. I can't do it up
to your discretion. I'm but I am. I am remarkably inconsistent. Yeah,
it's it's difficult to be consistent because at the end
of the day it makes no sense. Well again, because
everybody wants something, so you just I feel like I've
got my own like a governor on myself. Everybody should
make a living wage, but not everybody does. Like, for instance,
(01:17:24):
I took an airport shuttle yesterday to and front Monday
to the airport Wednesday for coming back, you know, those
no parking shuttle things. I give it guy a couple
of bucks in the Yeah. Yeah, but I mean, I'm
not you know, but again, there's sometimes I don't get
money at all. I'm I am inconsistent. Unlike mister gratuity Jonathan,
he's very consistent with his gratuities or like they'reof all right,
(01:17:47):
you know, yeah, that's good nine percent. All right, the
Astros are still standing. We'll have it for you next
eleven fifty nine on seven ninety's The Matt Thommys Show
with Ross. All Right, the Astros have the boot and
(01:18:15):
they're still standing. I might be the only person that
can give you this declarative statement. I don't particularly care
about the boot. I was just way more concerned about
them winning if they were playing Kansas City or Cleveland
or Boston or Baltimore. Yesterday, they're in the middle of
a Pennant raiser. I didn't care about the boot. I
(01:18:36):
think most people don't care about the boot. It's just
fun to talk about, especially when it's fun to hang
over Rangers fans heads, even though they're more worried about
how the Cowboys defense is going to do this weekend. Yeah,
it's fun. Like like, I've got a lot of friends
that live in Dallas. I can't blank talk to them
on Rangers Astros. They don't care because first of all,
(01:18:56):
the Astros have owned them except for that one American
League championships here. But generally speaking, their stadium is a
ripoff of Dyking Uh. Their fan base could give two
blanks about the team with exception and maybe if they
go the World Series, which has been what twice in
the last twenty years. I mean, if you think this
is a football town, Dallas is twenty five times a
(01:19:19):
football town compared to the baseball team like it is here.
At least here we've had, you know, all this this
success in the two World Series and the endless playoff appearances.
There's nobody to fight, there's nobody, there's nobody to smack.
Like tomorrow, we're getting soft Yam from Seattle, our buddy. Yes,
we're gonna smack talk the hell out of them. Should
be fun. Yeah, and you're working on Jacksonville guests. Maybe
(01:19:41):
for working on it. Okay, it's fine, very diligently. I
like it. Uh, but yeah, it's uh. I mean they
gotta be pretty deflated. But problem is, does anybody in
Arlington really care?
Speaker 7 (01:19:55):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:19:56):
I mean, the Cowboys got that big victory off of
that kicker with a strange name last week. Big long
field goals, by way, Are we got to see a
seventy yard field goal this year? No? We saw sixty
four over the weekend and he made it by several yards.
Speaker 6 (01:20:09):
Okay, maybe the kick two from the Jaguais kicker. I
think that broke the who wrote the record this preseason?
Speaker 2 (01:20:17):
Oh yeah, the preseason record. You mean to tell me, Rossie,
We're not going to see a seventy yard field goal
in Denver, Colorado at some point in our life. Maybe
in Denver. I don't know these. I think these dome
stadia this year, so I don't know, Okay, I'm just
saying we have got a seventy. We've got these guys
that are kicking fifty five like their chip shots. Yeah,
(01:20:38):
Justin Tucker, I forgot this made a sixty six yarder
and twenty one. Brendon Aubrey made a sixty five yarder
and twenty four he was the one that made the
long care Yeah. Yeah, in this year? Why do Why
are kickers better than they were when we were growing up? Wow,
everybody's better at everything. Everybody's bigger, faster, stronger kickers too.
(01:20:58):
You know what, NAKs are better? Kick curious When I
was growing up for fat and smoked cigarettes and drink
wine on the sideline. It's usually some guy who came
over from Bulgaria and was a soccer player, Tony Memory.
Those of you that are old school Oiler fans, Tony Fritch,
I mean Tony Fridge had a massive gut. Martin Germatica
(01:21:19):
had a massive gut. Not Martin, no, no, no, no, Sebastian
janet Kowski him. I was thinking of. Yes, he did
first round pick, by the way, he was great when yeah,
and when he gave a damn But I think he
went I think that, you know, like go to bed early.
I think he won Handikee went to bed with a
with a pack of smokes in his mouth and probably
(01:21:40):
drank himself and did all that, but he could boom
the ball. But now we're seeing these guys, I mean, hell,
Kymie Fairbairn ROSSI where would this team be without Kymie
fairbarn that's seven years ago, because seven years ago we
were like, you're spending on on this dude? Who is
this guy? And he's been They're MVP so far this year.
(01:22:01):
I mean, tell me he doesn't deserve a spot in
the Ring of Honor. He's earning it at this point.
Kickers are jet they've gotten better. Like I just pulled
up the longest kicks and they're all from twenty one,
twenty four to twenty five, twenty thirteen, and then you
go back to like Jason Elam for the Broncos in
ninety eight had a sixty three yarder. But most of
(01:22:24):
these longest kicks ever are if within the last really
five ten years steroids you think kickers, are you think
Kymie Fairbirns on steroids? Have you seen him? No? I'm
I mean always say he's on the best buy geek squad.
Why don't you just put something in that leg? Maybe
they got bionic legs going or something. Yeah, I would
just say techniques are better. I don't know if anything's
(01:22:46):
different about the footballs. Specialized guys, yeah, more specialized training,
yeah exactly. Now are we still seeing as many soccer
kickers doing their thing? I don't think any of these
guys are soccer guys. They're just true field goal guys. Now,
Australian punters are a thing. All the best punters are
coming up for from Australia, like Cameron Dicker and whatnot.
(01:23:07):
Cameron Dicker, who's the guy that's h Dickinson have a
Foster's Bear in their right hands. They're kicking the ball
to yes man. They jump out of a kangaroo pouch
and they like a massive large amounts of fried onions. Yeah,
and that what's that stuff they spread on that nasty
stuff that they spread on bread. I don't know. We
(01:23:27):
all you the news at noon. Sometime next you get
the news at noon, then Ray and Doug are gonna
come in and join the country. Vega might I never
had of you? Apparently it's pretty nasty, I'm telling you
the moment of the year last year from me in
the Rockets. We're in Miami, and I'm not talking about Australia.
Is New Zealand. Steven adams reputation is eats a lot.
(01:23:50):
I mean, when you're seven feet tall and you're twt
a fuel up, manny, you get a fuel up. He
and ironed the elevator together. Uh huh. Now you've had
to go when you brought it to your elevator, right, Okay?
He brought him a tomahawk on the plate with a
massive helping of mashed potatoes. I don't see what the
(01:24:11):
problem is. That's ridiculous. I'm just jealous. You've never taken
a plate of food from the restaurant and not covered
it up just a I mean, it was there the bone.
If he picked up by the bone was eating on it,
that'd be funny. He probably could be doing it in
this room. I wasn't going Flintstone style. I don't know,
but it was probably a forty ounce steak. Did he say, yabadabado?
(01:24:33):
Do you think I would ask him to say? Yeah? Boo?
Oh my god? That was that was That was just
a bad I couldn't let this side that was that
was bad? Yeah, but time for a break. The news
at twelve twenty is next. I thought we were supposed
(01:24:56):
to get rid of this bump. There's not to look
about it. It's everything's about the hay about it. Imagine
dragon sucks, the underneath suck and the thunder that comes
up with follow. What a great hit, What a fantastic
song it was. It's terrible all right. We got the
(01:25:18):
Rotten five coming up at about thirty minutes from now,
if you miss our conversation with Brian McTaggart that's coming
up at one thirty today. And I have just finished
off to day's edition of Believe It or Not see Rossie.
I'm handling Believe It or Not, and I got it
done at twelve twenty two. The segment is about fifty.
I'm proud of you. Well, okay, we'll see how quality
of the questions are. Oh they're mid ha, but I
don't un him as I mean, I don't run them
(01:25:39):
as good as you do. I fully admit that you're
doing a great Matt. We're all proud of you. You don't
know that y'all want you judge these questions when they're done.
I'm going to give you a plus. Matter of fact,
why do we do this when we do it? Want
to you play it first to see how if you can?
You think you know? Okay, it's about Robert Redford today,
so be ready for that, like off air? No on here?
Or do you want to do it off here and
see how I do? No? I thought you mean on
(01:26:00):
air with the contestants. Yeah, okay, like we'll do We'll
solicit Ross advice first and he'll and he'll either believe
it even like a helper. If you will, okay, like
you're alive or dead. You do quite well on those No,
I don't. I got crush the last time. You did
get crushed last time Aggie dog on seven, I congratulations
on the huge win in South Bend over the weekend.
(01:26:21):
We don't talk about those things, Matt. Why not?
Speaker 1 (01:26:24):
Can't can't talk about it?
Speaker 2 (01:26:26):
Why not you get so few of those big wins?
Why would you not want to talk about it?
Speaker 1 (01:26:30):
No, I I I've taken I've turned over a new
leaf this year. I'm just gonna let Aggie football be
Aggie football. And at the end of the year, that's
when I will have my comments.
Speaker 2 (01:26:41):
All right, So then you.
Speaker 1 (01:26:42):
Feel like I've jinxed them basically at this point. So
you know what, I'm just not going to give him
any flowers. I'm not going to give him anything until
we actually see the end result at the end of
the season.
Speaker 2 (01:26:52):
That's okay, to each his own, my friend, I got you,
go ahead.
Speaker 1 (01:26:55):
I'm doing the same with the astros as well. So,
but y'all, y'all were asking about the kickers, and so
evidently the NFL allows the kickers to have the ball
all week long so they can mold it, squeeze it,
you know, inflate it, do whatever they need to do
and as long as it passes specs at the beginning
of the game. And they're doing this with quarterbacks too.
(01:27:17):
The quarterbacks get the ball, have the balls four days
before and and basically that's the reason that the ball
is going further and more or less, that's that's kind
of a fantasy cheet if he didn't know about it.
Speaker 2 (01:27:29):
So basically, they're building relationships with these pigskins before the game.
Speaker 1 (01:27:32):
What you're saying, yeah, I don't know what the hell
they're doing with them, but the balls flying longer, and
I've heard that that they're going to shatter passing yards
this year that several you know quarterbacks are going to
you know, just shatter passing yards.
Speaker 2 (01:27:46):
Well, that's that's not nothing to do with the football.
That's that has to do with the play calling.
Speaker 1 (01:27:51):
Well a lot of the but a lot of the
it is the football. I mean, think about it. I
mean Tom Brady, Brady wouldn't have done what he did
if it didn't help.
Speaker 2 (01:27:58):
I'm not saying that, but I mean, you're you're.
Speaker 1 (01:28:00):
Not going to try to get in trouble if you
if it doesn't work.
Speaker 2 (01:28:03):
But if my if coach of my team still calls
for the ball to be carried thirty times on the ground,
there's gonna be no shattering of a football record. A
shattering of a passive record would.
Speaker 1 (01:28:12):
Be like, I help, what Domito does many Hey hey, hey, hey, hey,
that's not nice. I just do hope Aggies do run
the ball thirty times. So that's what they just need
to continue to do. That's the only comment I will
make on the Aggies. They need to keep running football.
Speaker 2 (01:28:28):
Well, it's certainly worked against under Dame. Thanks for the
phone call. By the way, did you do your check
on the offensive line through two weeks? In the NFL.
Today's the day. I don't profoiball focus, but so out
you want me to go? Look because it was dead
last last week. Yes, by the way, what was Cincinnati considered?
Like thirty one? Thirty every week? It feels like they
were thirty one. Yeah, and Joe Burrows own with turf toe.
(01:28:50):
Let me, I've never had turf toe, because that require
me being an athlete. His his toe must be the
size of a grapefruit. I don't know. Apparently it's very complicated.
There's a lot of ligaments in the toe, and turf
toe sounds like it's something you should be able to
get over, but it's quite difficult. And well, it's gonna
be three months for him. I think he's getting three
months with surgery. But as I saw him get hurtee,
(01:29:13):
I'm sure you were doing the same thing. I was
watching Red Zone, right, it was like, oh no, Joe
Burrow's hurt again. Oh yeah, I forgot the Bengals don't
invest in their offensive line. Sound familiar. It was like,
oh yeah, I forgot Jake Brown and can Ball. He
was good. Now I got to talk to Rotto about
whether I gotta use t Higgins because he has been
(01:29:35):
underwhelming in the first two weeks of the season. Yeah,
I think you should trade him. I'm not training him,
but there's I got a San Diego interested you really
you need some help. I picked up Woody Marks this week.
How you feeling? Are you going to No, I'm one
in one Okay, okay, I'm two in ox and never
won in the league so far. But again, it's very
early in the season. I'm glad to have the Toro's
back winning. Just give him my money back? Why? Because,
(01:30:01):
I mean I have very low expectations of my squad.
I think you're doing great. Thank you. All right, So
how are PFF grades? Do you want to guess where
they are? Out of thirty two teams, I'm gonna say
they got bumped up a spot. They're thirty to a second.
There's still the worst offensive line in the NFL, says
Titus Howard was their best player. You're supposed to get
Jake Andrews back this week. You're gonna say, you're gonna
(01:30:25):
say you're supposed to get Jake Andrews back, and the
Jake Andrews is coming back, man, and the audience in
Houston's going, well, what does he to exactly do He's
the center. There you go. That answers the question. Apparently
ed Ingram played pretty well too. They're they're gonna get
more of a chance to gel with Ursery on the
left side, had Howard on the right side, and Jake
(01:30:49):
Andrew's coming back Titus Howard. Yeah, it's all good. I
told you, I told you. I believe that. I know
you said top twenty five, let's go. But are they
bearing themselves so poorly that they're gonna they're gonna be
stuck at thirty second? It's week two week baby, okay,
so they can have it. They could be number six
next week if they protect cj uh. Yeah, it looks
(01:31:11):
like the bottom Basically the bottom five offensive lines are
all in the same order as last week. Texans, then Bengals,
New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Raiders, Titans are the worst
offensive lines of football, according to Pro Football Focus. The
news at twelve thirty is up next. We didn't do it,
(01:31:32):
that's fine. Did you do it the last two days?
Three days? Yes? I don't, we did, Jonathan. You have
news okay, see the latest edition. And this is totally
my fault. Yeah, you're right, I deserve to suck it.
The News at twelve thirty clips that don't clip. It
is up there to write that down. No, it's not
the usual Friday. I was here last Friday. I know that.
(01:31:53):
Uh seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seventy. What's wrong
with me? I'm not I'm just feeding the tyro of
the segment. The News at twelve thirty is next. Let
me tell you something. Sometimes you have a press conference,
it takes over the news running late. Sometimes a game
runs late. Sometimes the just the woody rip our table
(01:32:15):
between the two hosts delay something. But we owe it
to you to catch up with all the big headlines.
Today we present to you Rossfield Real and the News
at Dude. Yes, Matthew, the News at Dude includes your
Houston Astros sweeping the Texas Rangers. Able to get the
victory last night five to two as they clinch the
(01:32:37):
Silver Boot series. They clinched the tiebreaker and with the
loss of the bye the Seattle Mariners, they're able to
be now a half game up in first place in
the American League West. Check the grom not good. Five innings,
five inned runs? What Christian Havevierre those six innings? Pitch
A couple of runs given up there early, but then
settled in nicely. That's all he gave up with five hits,
(01:33:00):
one walk, four strikeouts. Christian Javier, how are we feeling
going forward? Been up and down for him? May I
throw a question at you with a question back to you? Okay,
I would like you to size up the five man
rotation one to five at this point. Okay, it is
Hunter Brown definitive from from Brevaldez, Jason Alexander, Christian Xavier
(01:33:22):
and aj Blueball. Are we still keeping fromber in the
number two spot? Yes? I would agree with you, but
it's a very shaky too. Just say I don't think
he has a stranglehold on the position. I think it's
no doubt about it. But as of this moment, he
is still there. And the Astros will be after today's
(01:33:44):
day off, lining up their rotation with that one two
three that I put in order there, Matt with Hunter
Brown and then fromber Valdez and then Jason Alexander. For
the Marriners, it will be Brian Wu who's been very good,
George Kebby, who hasn't been as good lately, but has
given the Astros problems before and then Logan Gilbert on Sunday,
(01:34:05):
it's a big three game set coming up this weekends.
Must not get swept series. That feels fair because if
you if you go down three going to the West
Coast with again, remember the Mariners are home the rest
of the season after this road trip. They'll have the
(01:34:26):
Colorado Rockies waiting for them in Seattle, Colorado. I mean
they've been playing out the string since March. They knew
there's they were asking for people to buy tickets for
twenty twenty six in spring training of twenty twenty five.
That's how that it was. It's it's not been great
for our friends, the Colorado Rockies right now. As far
(01:34:48):
as the playoff odds, Astros chance to win the division,
they have the Mariners actually as favorites fifty three point
four percent, Astros at forty six point four percent. Your
Rangers Matt at zero percent. Suck at Rangers, Yeah, suck
itt Rangers. Okay, anyways, moving along, let's keep it in
(01:35:09):
baseball show Atani, did you notice Matt or did you
hear while you were away? He had five innings of
no hit ball this week for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Yes,
and did you see what they're thinking about using him for? Well,
that's why I bring it up on the news. And now, Matt,
right after he went, how about you give up? You
go five innings and no hit ball. You have to
hit your fiftieth home run in a single game? Show
(01:35:32):
Atani is just a friggin' unicorn. And then literally they're
losing the game one inning later because the bullpen for
the Dodgers has not been great. So shoe Otani and
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts in discussions about him possibly being
available as a reliever. Now, if that happened, Matt, he
(01:35:52):
would have to start the game in the field. You
cannot be a DH and then come in as a pitcher.
You can start the game as a picture, but you
cannot come into the game, is what I'm reading. So
he would have to be in the field. Okay, so
say this again. Okay, you can start the game as
(01:36:14):
a picture because you know they change the rules basically
for Shoho Tani and the stay in the game as
the DH. You cannot start as the DH and then
be inserted as a pitcher. Boil boy. I cannot wait
for that complexity to come into play when the Astros
pulled the Dodgers in the World Series. But shy of that, Ross,
I will not be overly concerned with that. Yes, huh,
(01:36:39):
that's very confusing. Oh, I'm very confused.
Speaker 9 (01:36:41):
Back.
Speaker 2 (01:36:42):
Okay, he said he would have to play the outfield
to remain in the lineup after exiting as a reliever.
But he can remain in the game as a DH
if he's a starter. That's what I'm reading. We're gonna
go with that. Okay, continue on, I could be rock
go Google dot com. All right, we will continue on
on the news at noon. Man elsewhere, you have stuff
(01:37:05):
going on in the news, including would you let me
to segue into something different? Go ahead. I was gonna
bring up some Champions League, but go ahead. Oh no,
we don't need that. Uh, you know mine's on the
news and news, so finish your chair. We talked, No,
we talked about this yesterday, Matt. Actually, had you heard
about the good news for Stefan Diggs that he is
on the boat and he's having sex with multiple women
(01:37:26):
at one time. No, he and Cardi b are expecting
a child. Is it his? He and Cardi B are
expecting a child, and Cardi B could be two people
are expecting a child. That it's The assumption is that
it's it's there. Could Cardi B be playing the field,
say he and Cardi B are expecting someone else's child? Okay,
all right, well, congratulations in both. What kind of gift
(01:37:47):
are you giving them to them? I will not be
getting them any sort of gift, but I just wanted
to let you give your heartfelt congratulations. Congratulations to you both.
Hope you're very successful and happy and the child's healthy.
All right, Matt, You're gonna hear more about this team
and the Rotten five later on today, But tonight's on
Prime Video. It is the Buffalo Bills versus the Miami Dolphins.
(01:38:10):
Will Mike McDaniel be fired within the next four weeks?
They got the Bills and they have the Jets, then
things kind of lighten up. They have the Panthers, Chargers,
Browns eleven and a half point dogs are your Miami Dolphins.
I'm going to say this, it's the Buffalo Bills today.
Buffalo wins. If I was a betting man on this,
I would take Miami with the points Miami can score.
(01:38:34):
I know, granted their defense sucks too, But if you're
gonna play a thirty five to twenty four game, I
could see that, but I don't see a forty two
to thirty game. I'm gonna take Miami the points, Miami
plus the eleven and a half. You heard it here first,
it's the lock of a week on a recorded line.
I'm Maddy Esposito, and I got sources of that are
(01:38:59):
better than the sauce than the Dolphins episodes. All right, quick?
American League Baseball, though we didn't mention though that the Astros.
We did mention there in first place. We did not
mention they are only one half one and a half
games behind the Yankees for the first wildcard, and also
one and a half games behind the Detroit Tigers for
a possible two seed situation in the American League met
(01:39:21):
How are we feeling, I'm feeling like I feel like
it's two in the lost column. It's too much to overcome.
I think the if the Astros win to the West,
which I still believe it's going to happen, they will
do so as the three seed. If they do it
as a two seed, then maybe they're the hottest team
going in the postseason because this team was left by
(01:39:42):
some not everybody, but left for dead about two weeks ago.
All right, Matt elsewhere in the NFL, let's go ahead
and talk about your Houston Texans. I was doing some
research and well a lot of the advanced stats we
talked about yesterday for c J. Stroud to have them
as one of the worst quarterbacks in football? Do you
know where are the Texans los in terms of yards
per play in the NFL? Out of the thirty yards
(01:40:05):
per play? They will now give you a hint some
of the best teams in football at the top. Baltimore
is one, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Ram, Detroit, and Green Bay.
That's your top five. The Houston Texans and my educated
NFL analyst mind of mine are twenty sixth eighteenth. That's close,
so not. Great teams around them include the Niners, Bears, Broncos, Falcons.
(01:40:30):
I got one for you. Okay, when is CJ? Now
excuse me, when is Demico going to start feeling a
little bit of the you're just a mid coach heat.
I think he's feeling some of that heat. Now, Okay,
you're getting some of that. Last year, people wanted Demico
Ryans fire. I'm not saying fire, and I'm saying that
to me, it was a slam dunk higher I'm going
(01:40:51):
off for that slam dunk right now, and I'm missing
the rim a couple of times. I would say, generally
for coaches the coordinator, fire is kind of like a
get out of jail free card, exactly right. And so
he's you, I mean, how many times can you continue
to point the finger at everyone else? Now that point
the finger? They threw the bus under under a Bobby Slowick.
I mean, they they, they and they have, they have
(01:41:15):
unfortunately and perhaps unfairly criticized through back door channels how
bad of a coach he was. And if I'm Bobby
Slowk I'm laughing my ass off. I really am. He
probably is, well, I don't know. He's got his own prophecy.
He's the passing game coordinator for the Dolphins tonight. Yeah,
(01:41:35):
that's right, all right. Well, one more quick thing. Did
you see the Instagram post by one Kyler Murray on Tuesday?
I heard about it, I have not seen it. It
was Kyler Murray wearing a retro throwback Virginia Tech, Jersey
by a certain quarterback named Michael Vick. Okay, where's the shit?
(01:41:57):
Also posting with a bulldog? Mm hmmm, that's that's that's
my fantasy quarterback. By the way, Kyler Murray's. He took
down the Instagram posts from Tuesday after seeing blow Black
blow back online. He also expressed empathy for those who
took offense to the posts. Of course, Michael Vick spent
twenty one months in federal prison after pleading guilty in
(01:42:20):
two thousand and seven for operating a dog fighting So
how was Kyler Murray? Maybe seven?
Speaker 6 (01:42:28):
Yeah, Okay, you know what happened to Michael Vick, do you? Jonathan?
So I was a kid, I knew he was. There
were dog fighting, right, That's that's all I know about it.
I don't know any of the details.
Speaker 2 (01:42:37):
But you don't know even did You don't even to
prison in time to prison and you know, like you've
left the matting games. I'm just curious if twenty five
year olds know that Michael Vick went to prison, Well,
Kyler Murray, it went right over his head. And no way,
shape or form do I condone animal cruelty or dog
fighting Murray said during his weekly news conference. Can you
(01:42:59):
believe him? I would say he didn't do that in purpose. Yes,
he just said he won. He put the jersey on
because he's an admirer of Michael Vick and those are
his does happen to be his dog? He has two
bulldogs named Swoosh and Trunks. Oh, they're sweet, they like
the bellies. I don't think he fights them. No, they
(01:43:20):
have like treats and or electrocutes them to death when
they're not good fighters like Michael. Dude, we were drowning
the dogs that weren't good fighters. I mean, he deserved
the present time he did. But thankfully, you know, Michael
(01:43:40):
learned the error of his ways and was able to
be a member of society.
Speaker 13 (01:43:44):
I mean. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:43:45):
Now he's the head coach at Norfolk Norfolk State. Yeah,
they're one and two. They're playing Texas this week. No,
they're Texas playing the Juggernaut in state in state rivals.
Who they're they're University of Houston. No, that's not an
in state rival. That's an in state irrelevant. Oh my god,
(01:44:05):
is it is? There goes your ticket? I think you
could be U two right now. I don't disagree. Thank
you very much for saying thank you. That's okay, Okay,
line them up, let's go. You know what, we'd line
him up at a millisecon. You guys are afraid to
play us. Yeah, that's what's happened. The only time we
read to play was because it's being teve told is
you and nobody wants to play in that tiny little
Mickey Mouse stadium. It is a majestic facility of my friends.
(01:44:25):
All right, the Rotten five is well, get back to
back sevens with you. Are you gonna be able to
handle this?
Speaker 5 (01:44:29):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:44:30):
What is? When's run five? Next segment? Okay? Seven one
three two one two five, seven ninety it'll be fine,
production value will be high, right, yeah, baby? Why is
New Orleans doing that version of that? Okay, that's a
little foreshadowing of the rock. Oh does Gordy know this?
(01:44:50):
I'm afraid for you, Gordy. You hear me, Gordy. You're
not gonna want to listen to Rotten five coming up next?
Are you? Okay? And we're gonna give mad a minute.
It's getting a little stuffed up, stuffed up? Oh yeah,
don't be confident on me. No, I cover my mouth
kind of. I didn't aim towards you, Thank goodness, that
(01:45:11):
would be weird. All right, I cannot focus around you.
Seven one three two one two five seven eighty seven
one three two one two five seven nine zero. Want
to tell you about Affordable Tree Service. All right. It's
still really hot out there, clearly, but we are in
(01:45:31):
for fall pruting of your trees. Trimming in the summer,
that's a bad idea. Now is the time to get
with Martin Spoonmore at Affordable Tree Service because it is
the best time to trim your trees. So you're saying,
why do I care about that? You want your trees healthy.
You want your trees ready for the upcoming season when
you put lights on them. You want them just to
(01:45:53):
be looking their best because you bought your house in
part because of how cool your trees are. You're gonna
call Affordable Tree Service. You're gonna from Martin spoon Moore.
Martin is crazy. He's a nutshot. But I love him
and he loves me, and I want him to love you.
And you're gonna love him because he's gonna treat your
tree trees perfectly, and he's gonna do at a very
fair price. Look at this guy's umpire's arms. Is he's
(01:46:17):
that's that's like a hercules over there. They've gone there
they draw flies. It's Ross's rotting five. This don't smell
quite right. It absolutely tanks. No talent to tell you
(01:46:40):
who the five best teams are in the NFL, But
we'd like to cuss and discuss the five worst teams
in the NFL. Are you okay, we gonna cussing. We
gon't discussing shit. We all right, here's Ross. Well they'
rotten five. All right, let's get it moving, old rotten five.
Speaker 13 (01:46:58):
Woo.
Speaker 2 (01:47:00):
Guysn't come alright, relax, all right. Hard to blame the
Browns for losing last week to the Baltimore Ravens, but
they lost to the Bengals before that, and they talked
all week, Jerry Judy specifically about being disrespected being ten
and a half point dogs, not worried about the Ravens
secondary at all. Well, then they lost by twenty four points,
(01:47:23):
so maybe it was disrespectful to just be ten and
a half point dogs. But on the flip sides, so
the Browns started the season zero and two. Don't know
how much easier it's gonna get. The next two weeks
they take on Green Bay and Detroit. Joe Flacco remains
their quarterback and he was horrible this past weekend against
the Ravens. The Browns the fifth worst team in the NFL.
(01:47:49):
You are a factory of sadness, all right, right on
time as usual? Okay, the Tennessee Titans were the worst
football Come well, talk to RCS news. It's great software, Maddie.
Tennessee Titans worst team in football last year. Of course,
they did earn the number one overall pick in cam Ward.
Welcome to the league, young man. First two weeks you
(01:48:10):
get to take on the Denver Broncos, one of the
best defenses in football. That La Rams defense quite formidable
as well. So yes, the offense has been sputtering. They
are thirty second in football in yards per play. They
do have a couple of divisional games coming up, hosting
the Colts and then at the Houston Texans, so in theory,
(01:48:33):
lightening up the schedule is defensively, but as of right now,
Titans not very good. They are owned two. They are
the fourth worst team in the NFL. Go ahead, guys,
we got to go get Yeah, I know all right, Well,
let's keep Carolina Panthers on this list. I mean, my goodness,
(01:48:53):
how much have they appeared here the last couple of years.
Last year, three good games for Bryce Young. They're feeling
all good. They're gonna get things going. He's gonna hit
the ground running in his second season. Not so fast,
my friend. The good news is that he did have
three hundred and twenty eight yards and three touchdowns against
just one pick this weekend against Arizona Cardinals. The bad
(01:49:13):
news it took him fifty five attempts to rack up
those yards and they only scored twenty two points. Come on, now,
Carolina Panthers, you gotta be better than that. Well, unfortunately
they are not. Offense twenty ninth in yards per play,
defense not much better at twenty seventh. The Carolina Panthers,
(01:49:35):
they are the third worst team in the NFL. The
fucked more than anything that I've ever thought before. I
know it sucks around here. I'm gonna have to restart
this computer during the break. But that's okay, all right.
You kind of knew the New Orleans Saints weren't gonna
be very good.
Speaker 13 (01:49:53):
It is what it is.
Speaker 2 (01:49:54):
They started to know this, yet by the way, Yeah,
well he should know. If he doesn't. If you don't know, now,
Spencer Ratler obviously in the worst quarterback situation in the league.
You're even going up against Mac Jones. You're at home
and you already have players calling out the fans because
there were so many San Francisco forty nine ers fans
in the stadium. Well, it is what it is. Alvin
(01:50:17):
Kamara not very good and just old Spencer Ratler is horrible.
You couldn't beat Mac Jones at home. New Orleans Saints
starting off the season oh and two. It has been horrible.
Now they go on the road to face the Seahawks
and Bills. We're looking at oh to four dead in
the eyes the New Orleans Saints, the second worst team
in the NFL. Whitch yeah, go sick the head up though,
(01:50:40):
crawl Fish. Yeah, thank you, Cordy, appreciate that, all right.
Speaker 3 (01:50:44):
You know it is.
Speaker 2 (01:50:45):
They're playing a night against the Buffalo Bills. They're eleven
and a half point dogs. They continue to lose. Everyone
is making ways talking about Mike McDaniel. He's losing his
mind in his press conferences. Does he have the respect
of the team. They're going to be oh and three
after tonight against the Buffalo Bills. The Miami Dolphins are horrible.
They do get the Jets and the Panthers in the
next couple of weeks, so maybe they can turn things around.
(01:51:07):
But the Miami Dolphins and Bobby Sloweck, their passing game coordinator,
the absolute worst team in the NFL. This computer's number
one too. Here's a computer in my thought about number one.
(01:51:27):
There's your run five. We're gonna restart it literally right now,
by the way, all right, question that you? You and
I are going to Lake Charles this weekend to watch
football and to bet on lots of college and pro
football this weekend. Can't wait. I went. I went to
a little digging. The Houston Jacksonville game is at noon. Yeah,
the other CBS game is at three o'clock. Now, it's
(01:51:51):
a CBS single game weekend, and we'll be at a
book so we'll go to see all of them. But
what do you think New Orleans Seattle is on at three?
Or the Texans Jaguars? What game is the affiliate in
Lake Charles, Louisiana Broadcasting Saints. You're right, yeah, I mean
lose a baby. But isn't Lake isn't Houston closer to
(01:52:14):
Lake Charles than Lake Charles is nor Lean? Yeah, but
everybody Saints an LSU fans over there, that's true. I
was hoping that a puncher's chance that we could if
we were waking up late, we could be in our
room watching the Texans. It's not gone city, Arsenal ten thirty.
Come on now, it's a big game. Come on, sit down.
Oh so we're gonna beat the book early then I'm
going to be I'll be.
Speaker 1 (01:52:33):
There with you.
Speaker 2 (01:52:34):
You come and watch the City Arsenal. Let me tell
you so, I want you to. I will be there.
We got the under and you will shoot a photo
of me watching the game. Wow, I didn't start shocked. Yeah,
I'm there for you as long as I can. Week up,
I'm trying to take it easy on Saturday. That's the plan. Yeah,
so we're we once once a year we go to
Lake Charles during football season, usually when it's the uh
(01:52:55):
By week, which is the case this week, because we're
getting ready for the big matchup of Oregond save money,
I mean massive, huge, but it works out well. Probably
is again it's Jacksonville. We'll get to fight people to
get Houston Jacksonville on the big screen at the book.
I don't know you ponying up the cash for a
nice table. Why wait things I get sadly if you
(01:53:16):
want to go to a casino there, and I'm not
gonna mention anything because they don't spend any money with us.
You have to spend hundreds of dollars in minimum food
and drink per hour, per hour, and they ain't messing
around with you. Ross. We're talking about one hundred and
twenty five dollars an hour per person. That's what it
is for real. Yeah, gosh, they just want you to
(01:53:38):
get hammered drunk. We're driving down that night, no question,
so it ain't happening. Just saying, all right, twelve fifty nine,
let's start the final hour when I'm we lost Jonathan
to see where us still? We still in that turgiom,
were starting the computer. Okay, I's worry about for second.
We don't see Jonathan's is in a studio around the
corner from us.
Speaker 1 (01:53:56):
We don't.
Speaker 2 (01:53:56):
We don't see him really live, right man, It's not
all right, It's terrible.
Speaker 1 (01:54:00):
It is what it is.
Speaker 2 (01:54:01):
I love our company, but we make massive mistakes when
we come to technology a benevolent iHeart Empire. We appreciate you.
I'm happy to have a job, thank you. I'm very
happy to have a job and want to be here
for the rest of my life. Just some things aren't perfect.
Is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross one six to
(01:54:23):
come before the Seattle Mariner storm Frossy, there'll be a
buzz in there tomorrow night Seattle v. Houston Friday Saturday,
and then the last ever ESPN. They're presuming the last
ever Sunday night game on a ESPN coming up on
Sunday at six o'clock. That's good, you know. I get
(01:54:46):
the Texans at noon, Astros at six both and get
their individual time. We'll be listening on the way home,
listening on seven ninety. Yes, can't wait. We are a
blowtorch in Lake Charles. That's true. They love us in
Lake Charles, they do. We're going up Maryls. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:55:03):
I gotta get two sandwiches though, and when y'all go, Ross,
make sure mask not gays and nobody, make sure things
are under what you know?
Speaker 2 (01:55:10):
What do you mean?
Speaker 5 (01:55:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:55:11):
I want to hear this please? You mean his wandering
eye last time you guys went to Lake Charles. I
remember y'all were a black check table. And then oh
because that old bitty, oh when he tried to he
tried to two piece Brenda trying to stand her up. Yeah,
t square up. I wanted to hit that wig off,
that bitch mad. All she did was hit a fourteen.
(01:55:34):
And what she did when she hit that had a
five or four. I want to say a four. I
think you're right. The dealer bust. No, the car she
she dealt she got Delta face card and bust. It's
likely to help. I want to start yelling and screaming
from mountaintops every time somebody plays wrong and it helps you.
You forget, that's fine, that's fine, you'll do it less
(01:55:55):
than three times. Here's have any five year old bitty.
If you're there and your blue hairs there, I'm setting
you on fire again. It was it was it was
it was chestnut brown Matt. She's like, oh, I guess
I shouldn't hit that, Like, yeah, you're dumb, and I
called her name on her right Relax, No, I'm not
gonna relax. Don't take my money. Uh well, don't put
(01:56:18):
it down. It's probably true. All right, So we got
we got that. We got the college football weekends, a
big Sam Houston State Houston game, I mean a Texas game.
What's the sexiest college game of the weekend? Miami, Florida.
Florida needs just wanted to keep the job for Billy
and Nape. You think, uh, he's on the chopping block.
I think the odds are him to be one of
the more one of the first fired guy, even though
(01:56:40):
we not first, but next you've already had two coaches
fired at u C l A and Virginia Tech. Yeah,
let's take a look at what's the sexiest Saturday game
to think of? Here? We got that'd be the in
state rivals Sam Houston Bearcats versus the Texas Loanhorns. We
got Auburn Oklahoma that's not terrible. We got Texas Tech Utah,
but we're not gonna be there in time for that.
(01:57:00):
We can bet the second half. That's eleven o'clock. It's true.
We got a punch of chance. We a's the ten
o'clock Mountain time kickoff? Are we stop? Were stopping at
the rookies in Raytown? Got that right? Okay? I gotta
put some money in that Raytown community. Lord knows they
don't spend any money in their town stimulate the economy.
By the way, there are Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska's kind
(01:57:21):
of interesting, Notre Dame, oh and two hosting Purdue there.
Notre Dame is a twenty six and a half point
favorite against Purdue. What happened in Purdue football? They sucked
the noise left. Yeah, it's true. LSU's got a big
matchup with the Southeastern Louisiana or how about this one.
It's not that anybody around here cares. But Indiana is
played three I mean complete dog crap teams, right. Yes,
(01:57:46):
they're a six and a half point favorite at home
for Illinois, who's the number nine. If Indiana loses that game,
people are gonna make fun of Indiana like you wouldn't
believe because they they're gonna say, well, all you have
to do is step up the league competition, and you failed.
They need that. Indiana beat Dominion, who beat Trounce Virginia
Tech m oh, we're watching that. Texas is a thirty
(01:58:09):
nine and a half point favorite over Sam Houston. That's
a stay away. I'm gonna bet that game. That's a
stay away and look at LSU. How embarrassing is this
l s U. You're playing Southeast Louisiana, You're playing a
non division, you're playing an FCS school. There are no
odds in the game off the board. You gotta be
embarrassed l s U. First of all, Brian Kelly, you
(01:58:30):
tell them to shut his bob mass up the other day.
I did not. You're being too high on us. Shout
out Brian Kelly, overrated ass coach. They beat Clemson in Florida.
They got two good wins. Yeah, but they were They
got a little, a little gimmicky against Joe l LA
Tech and get all mad and Clemson's looking shaky. They
(01:58:51):
lost to Georgia Tech. I got one. I got one
for the list. Double Swiney was coming after people. Double
every every coach. You know why, you know it is
every coach goes after people when they when they're when
they're finally taking the task for something. Nick Saban used
(01:59:11):
to get grumpy with the media. Yes, Brian Kelly got grumpy.
What's the name gundhy in Oklahoma states? Oklahoma State is
acting weird? Who is Sark? Sark was talking about sling
themselves arches sold pants. I mean, thank god, we you
of h are nice and even keeled. M. Tom Herman
(01:59:34):
used to get a little sulted. Tom Herman used to
get salty with the Dana. I don't care about recruiting.
We're not drinking, just party. We're not worried about racooning.
Big game for Dana this week. Offensive coordinator Nebraska huge massive.
You know why these coaches do this in honesty is
(01:59:54):
because they're never challenged. They go in their building and
they're considered god no one, no one, no one. Eighties
are afraid to do it. Who's the eighty at LSU?
Is it that Joe Aller guy? Still no idea? Whatever?
He's not going to Timmy Boudrew. It's a Philippo Langeleier,
is what it is, Tiau, tipdau Arcandoe. These are the
(02:00:18):
only people that are ever afraid of coaches are afraid
of their university presidents. Scott Woodward, Okay, same day, Scott Woodward,
Scott wood Scout's like, what the hell am I doing
in Baton Rouge? He was born in Baton Rouge, apparently
nineteen eighty five. I worked the chimes and I was
serving a lot of brand people. That's right. He was
(02:00:40):
the eighty at A and M and then went over
to L s U. I forgot about that. Who is
that a better job? A and M's a better job?
Sorry he disagreed, clearly he did. But how about Trev
Alberts is eighty at A M. He left his alma
mater Nebraska. Yeah, it's a lot of money, but it's
(02:01:02):
a lot of pressure. Yeah, a lot of undue pressure.
Quite frankly, there's no history. No the banners. The banners
say otherwise. Truly, keep adding, I think they claim three
more national championships this year. Don't Aggie, fans will come
after us.
Speaker 7 (02:01:18):
Smile.
Speaker 2 (02:01:19):
They know I'm right. You know, I gotta see added
a couple of years ago. See, just because you went there,
can't we just be practical and smart about this? Come on, man,
that seems fair? All right? Uh So, now we've antagonized
every college coach for being overrated and else. We need
to get to think big series the Astros. Tomorrow we're
(02:01:39):
gonna be Softy is unavailable. Unavailable. He's you're gonna talk
to him before the show. No, he he says he's
got a golf terma. He's playing in the morning early,
and he's got to take his dog to the vet,
so his partners. Let's get his dog on. Let's get
his dog on. What do think Softi's dog's name is.
(02:02:00):
I can text him Griffy, Oh my god, yeah, uh Griffy.
Or you could go Pete as in Carol. Oh, that's
not bad, Russ. It's a good dog name. Softy Hardy
Sherman Sonic Why Sonic sp Oh, that's true. Softy is
(02:02:21):
pure Seattle. He's go I'm gonna text him. Maybe Hersey
after Hersey Hawkins. Oh, he could be Sean Camp, could
be Camp. That's not a bad dog name. Colin Kemper, Oh,
I know, grown man's in the living room. Get over here, Kemper.
I mean it's a dog always in heat, like Sean Camp.
(02:02:43):
Was I that have big litters? Sean Camp battle litter?
He did. Welcome to Sport. That's right, all right, let's
h talk to U. Talk like this only when Matt's here.
It's his fault. No, if the show the last three
days was more serious, I apologize more serious, but it
probably wasn't as entertaining Matt. All right, I'm texting him
(02:03:04):
right now. What is your dog's name? All right, real quick?
Does Softie have a Seattle tie dog name?
Speaker 7 (02:03:12):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (02:03:12):
Or no?
Speaker 2 (02:03:12):
I will say Griffy is a good dog name. Griffy
is a fantastic dog name. Each your ro Okay, Suzuki, Edgar,
big Unit, Oh, Felix, Oh oh yeah, yeah for king Felix.
That's not bad. That's not bad. I'm gonna say yes. Now.
(02:03:33):
I'm not gonna think about it because there's a lot
of good options. Does Softy from kJ Alreadio have a
dog with a sports what's the best Houston option? Earl
bing Casio. I don't think that's gonna work. Is there
anybody that's got a dog name of Arian? I don't
name your dog arian? No? No, that is your second
(02:03:57):
inappropriate dog? O god, I was thinking about Arian Foster.
What's wrong with you?
Speaker 11 (02:04:03):
Guys?
Speaker 2 (02:04:03):
Big City Wings? Does the buy one get one free
boneless wing today? That's right? You guys had lunch? Yes,
boneless yesterday. I was crushing them delicious, all white meat, yes,
cut hand bread, handbreaded. Oh no, lie, he says, text
me Altuve, like, seriously, you're the worst. That's terrible. That
(02:04:26):
is terrible. His dog's name is not Alto. I say
he does own the city. Uh, he does own. I'm
using your material back to Big City Wings. All right,
So Saftie is not giving me his dogs names. There
must be some sort of family tie to it. But
he sent me a picture of them, and they're really
adorable kind of dogs. These By the way, Rossie, I
don't even know why is he being mum about the
(02:04:48):
dog's names. Well he said Altuve, and I didn't believe him. Okay,
there they are. Look looks kind of like a boxer,
miss like boxers. Yeah, beagle, maybe one beingle in the
mixer tortumental. Maybe a Jack Russell terrier mixed. It's like
mix mixes. Maybe he's got some rescues that'd be great.
I'll rescue your dogs, folks. I am a huge dog lover.
Peering into story all right, real quick before we go
(02:05:10):
to the phones, and Larry's gonna talk with us. From Galveson,
I went to the NBA broadcast meetings. That's the reason
why I was going. The last three days. They didn't
take any just sitting around meeting bond bonds. I was
actually with my colleagues, m and a lot of the press,
a lot of our meetings were let's introduce yourselves to Amazon,
Peacock NBC. You know, no, he was not there. Now
(02:05:36):
what was I going with? Oh? So on some of
the Peacock games. Actually, it feels like a lot of
those those are gonna be the Man United streaming games
they're trying to invent. They were trying to reinvent the
broadcast wheel. The Playboy play Guy is going to be
in his normal mid court, lower levels, you know, seat
wherever he is, you know, okay, table, They're going to
(02:05:56):
take two analysts for those two games. You're gonna have
three man booth. But instead of putting the two analysts
with the Playboy play Guy at the table, they're going
to position one on each bench, on the bench on well,
I mean or right right behind it, you know, thereabouts. Yeah,
that's I know what you mean, and they're going to
treat it. They're gonna send those analysts to shoot rounds
(02:06:21):
in any game day practices or anything availability, so they
really are quote unquote entrenched with that team for that
particular day. So you could have a game with let's
say the Rockets are playing the Mavericks. I don't know
if it's a Peacock game or not. But I'm throwing
it out there. You could have Carmental Anthony if he's
working the game for NBC, right behind the Rockets bench,
(02:06:46):
and you could have Reggie Millner right behind the Mavericks bench.
I'm just using their analysts. So while I understand and
kind of know what they want to go with, these
people have not met the NBA coaches. They're very secretive.
They do not want to open their doors to a
lot of things, and I'm gonna be curious to see
(02:07:06):
how much resistance.
Speaker 1 (02:07:08):
Now.
Speaker 2 (02:07:09):
My guess is they would put real NBA, respectful ex
players behind them so it'll be a little easier. But
Rick Carlisle is not easy to deal with. But a
lot of coaches that don't want you around their huddles
and whatnot. So I want to see how I want
to see how this works out. And they're all gonna
be calling the game and commenting on the game concurrently. Correct.
Speaker 1 (02:07:29):
See.
Speaker 2 (02:07:30):
I think one thing that popped into my mind about this,
and you know this, Matt, when you're working with a
color by or even just you and I sitting in here,
is reading the body language off the other to kind
of know when to talk and when not to talk,
and who's gonna talk and not step over each other.
If you don't have that proximity to kind of pick
up all those it's gonna take a work in progress
for sure. For example, Or like if you if you
(02:07:50):
want to lay out for a call and you can
kind of like, you know, kind of tell the guys,
give them a little signal, Hey, hey, guys, don't say anything.
We're gonna lay out. We're gonna let this breathe. Stuff
like that. Yep, those little nuances that make broadcasts good.
You're gonna you're not gonna have that opportunity to kind
of give cues off of each other. Now you could
clearly turn the microphones off, that's true. Yeah, is the
(02:08:12):
play by play guy who's who's on play by play
on these Are they gonna have like a mute button? Well,
it's gonna It's like Mike Rico's gonna do a lot
of games, knowing Eagle is gonna do a lot of games,
be on the show several times. Terry Gannon, I mean
there's you know they're gonna there's a bunch of announcers.
I mean, I think Peacock's doing sixty games. I mean
it's a lot. Yeah. Like you can see videos of
like Kevin Harlan like with uh, you know, stan Van
(02:08:34):
Gundy or whoever. He's like telling them like, hey, don't
say anything. We're gonna let this breathe. Yep. Interesting, they're
just trying to They're just trying it. Yeah, I get it,
And I try to be open minded to change, So
I'll be open minded. Yeah, but I have questions. Interesting,
I do believe, however, not that I don't know if
people particularly care. I think the NBC Amazon folks will
(02:08:56):
do an excellent job. They're they're putting a lot of
resources behind it. They are good. They're pooning up a
lot of cash. Yep, Yeah, they are, and they they
are not oblivious to They're gonna get a public annihilation
for a while when you when you when half of
(02:09:16):
your national television packages on a streaming service, you're gonna
get criticized. You just are. Now Tuesday, every Tuesday, there
will be a game on NBC that's been unheard of
every Tuesday. That's cool, every Tuesday night. Now, if you're
playing the Lake game. And then let's let's say that
NBC is gonna do two games one's gonna be for
(02:09:39):
East Coast viewers, and Central one's gonna be for Mountain
and Pacific. If you don't live in that time zone
in which your game is on, you go to Peacock
and you can get it too. So in theory, every Tuesday,
NBC is gonna have two games on. One will be
over the year and one will be on streaming. Just
swap depending on your times on that in your time zone. Yeah,
what about the playoffs? Playoffs are Amazon on NBC Peacock
(02:10:02):
Amazon Amazon, Yeah, all the way to like conference finals? No,
I think I think NBC gets a final this year,
and ESPN will always have a conference final and they'll
always have the NBA Finals. Okay, so all right, really
fast here, let's go to h Larry on seven eight.
Hello Larry Ben, How are you good?
Speaker 12 (02:10:23):
Larry?
Speaker 2 (02:10:23):
What's going on? It?
Speaker 12 (02:10:25):
Sure, it's good to have you back, Dude, Ross is
down a great job. But you're the number one.
Speaker 2 (02:10:31):
Dude, No, nor Larry. We are co number ones. We're
we're one A and one B.
Speaker 12 (02:10:39):
All right, that'll work, that'll work. Hey, First of ball,
my question is if the Astros would go on and
put Jordan on on retroactive, I L. How long does
that completely take him out of our alignment?
Speaker 2 (02:11:01):
Well, there's only there's only nine games left, So how
long has he been gone. He's been gone since Monday, right, Yes,
he got hurt Monday and then but he played the game,
so it would be retroacted to Tuesday, right, Yeah, Tuesday
would be the first day he'd be retroactively put on
the sabled list.
Speaker 7 (02:11:16):
So anyway, so.
Speaker 12 (02:11:19):
When it's the next time, if they put him on
the eye, maybe a ten day I L.
Speaker 2 (02:11:23):
And you've got nine games left, so he would be
coming back maybe the last series, Larry, Larry, I wouldn't.
I wouldn't hold my breath, it's too those ankles injuries
look severe. It looked terrible. I mean, I don't tell yeah,
I am.
Speaker 12 (02:11:39):
I am absolutely not holding my breath.
Speaker 4 (02:11:42):
Okay, I want to make sure you and and so
you know, my my point is is that, you know,
if he really did mess up his ankle that bad,
then why don't we just go on and put him
on the I L and bring somebody up and hopefully.
Speaker 7 (02:12:01):
They'll be able to make some type of positive addition
to our team. And the next question is if JP
France is owner a roster.
Speaker 12 (02:12:16):
Why are we not putting him in to throw anything
and pitching anything.
Speaker 1 (02:12:23):
You're all, thank you.
Speaker 2 (02:12:25):
Larry for that phone call. They're gonna they're gonna disable
them tomorrow. I think, I think, and I think it
may feeling. Maybe maybe it's for pride. You don't know.
That would be interesting, but I'm sorry, I don't. I
don't know if J. P. France is the X factor
between now and the Astro is winning the series against
(02:12:47):
Seattle or going on a deep playoff run, or for
that matter, win of the division. It can be an arm.
But Franklin's blue ball. I was gonna go with Jaden Murray.
He did Okay, he's been fine, He's pitching ball is interesting,
And we talked about it with Brian McTaggart. What kind
of role he's gonna have going forward, and we'll talk
and you'll hear that conversation next one thirty one on
(02:13:07):
Sports Talk seven ninety. All right, we got believe it
or not, all things about the late Robert Redford chewing
up at about fifteen minutes right now, a few minutes
from our conversation from Brian McTaggart. He said, look, this
roller coaster ride of a season. Things are going right now,
very well for the local nine. They took two or
three from Atlanta, and they finished a sweep of the Rangers,
who we see in Brian McTaggart.
Speaker 3 (02:13:28):
Yeah, and I think that's the blueprint of how they're
gonna do this. If they're gonna make a long playoff run,
they're gonna have to jump out to early leads like
they did against the Arrangers. They scored in the first
inning every time. They never trailed in the series. They're
gonna have to come up with clutch hits. This is
their blueprint to victory and then just have their starting
pitching and their relief pitching be just good enough.
Speaker 2 (02:13:50):
You know.
Speaker 3 (02:13:50):
I think they set the tone in Atlanta with those
first two games. You remember they went into Atlanta and
I think they had scored four runs in their previous
eight games or something eight games, eight runs in their
previous four games. I mean, they were really struggling. He
scored eleven in that first game in Atlanta. Uh did
pretty well in the second game, but I think that
sort of set the tone for where they're at now.
And you know, some really good at bats against the
(02:14:11):
Grom in that first inning to get his pitch count
up to thirty five pitches, Jeremy Panya laying off, you know,
a couple of sliders early and then he was able
to able to get a you know, a double to
get that inning going. You go back to September sixth,
when they faced the Grom h de Grom came out
pounding sliders, struck out three guys in the first inning
(02:14:32):
on sliders. You can tell the Astros We're not gonna
let him do that, and that's gonna be crucial because
they're gonna face a lot of this this caliber pitching
in the playoffs and even this weekend against the Mariners.
It seems so they're gonna have to have that same
disciplined approach.
Speaker 2 (02:14:45):
It seems like an X factor, of course, is also
going to be Zach cole Oh for his last five
but we know he's got some some lightning in his back.
Keep asking you about your gut feeling, I mean, how
do you think this plays out for him down the stretch?
Speaker 1 (02:14:59):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (02:15:00):
Ross It's gonna be interested because the kids obviously pretty fearless,
so I'm kind of anxious to see what he can
do this weekend. I mean, I'm sure he's going to
be in the lineup once or twice. But then then again,
he you know, these are very these are huge games,
and he's still trying to feel his way through the
big leagues and and uh, and he's facing all all
this elite pitching when he'd barely been at Triple A.
(02:15:21):
I mean, all of a sudden, he's facing.
Speaker 2 (02:15:22):
The Grom and you know, Louis Castillo and Brian Wu
maybe tomorrow night.
Speaker 3 (02:15:28):
So uh, this is the best pitching he's ever faced
in his life. And he's he's having figured out figured
out in games that matter hugely to the Astros. So
but I mean he's not, he's he's he's not scared
of anything. So I you know, I think the Astros
will give him a shot at least in one or
two of these games and see what he can do.
Speaker 2 (02:15:45):
Brian McTaggart Astros dot Com with us here on Sports
Talk seven to ninety. On the pitching side, it feels
like this time of year, we're always talking about how
the playoff rotation is going to line up, So asking
you about that and then specifically with Fromber if he's
really good the next couple of starts, I think he's
the two guy. If he's really bad, how much do
you think he can slide? And what if he's just
kind of somewhere in between.
Speaker 3 (02:16:08):
Yeah, I still think if he has a couple of
good starts under his belt, then yeah, he's going to
be the number two guy.
Speaker 2 (02:16:14):
You know, Alexander can't take anything away from what he did.
I mean, they're they're winning every time he takes the ball,
and that's what we want as well.
Speaker 3 (02:16:20):
And you know, Christian Javier is he has two pretty
good starts under his belt now six innings.
Speaker 1 (02:16:27):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (02:16:28):
I think he's a guy that maybe at the back
end of their rotation if you need a four starter,
would be in there as well. But yeah, I mean
I think the next two starts are pretty huge for
Fromber to see just where he will slot in in
the playoff rotation. I mean, a lot of it's going
to depend on how they use them in that final
week of the season. Are they you know, do they
have to use them in the final weekend and in
Anaheim if they have to win those games, And it
(02:16:49):
looks like this thing definitely will go down to the wire,
and you know, it might that might decide for them
how they line up their playoff rotation for the wildcard series,
if you know, if they have to, you know, use
Hunter Brown or fromber last couple.
Speaker 2 (02:17:00):
Of days of the regular season. What do you see
with maybe Peretti is coming back. How much jose L
two a DH will we see between now and the
end the season, regardless of whether or not the Paridis
can come back.
Speaker 3 (02:17:14):
I mean, I think if Predis comes back, he's gonna
d H. I don't see him play in the field.
I mean, he's not gonna play third base over Korea.
I mean, I guess, I guess he probably wouldn't DH
every game and then and then maybe that's where you
can get a two day back in the d H
spot and off second base. But I don't I don't
think Parretis is gonna He's obviously not gonna play short,
(02:17:34):
second or first, and you're not gonna take care off third. So, uh,
Pretis is gonna be d H only will he play
every game? It maybe depends how he feels how he's
swinging the bat. But Josel two bays played a lot
more second base in the second half of the season
as he did in the first, and I think of
the playoffs, that's where we'll see him.
Speaker 2 (02:17:53):
I think it'll be interesting if they have a lead
in a playoff game.
Speaker 3 (02:17:56):
You know, do they do they pull L two bay
and put Urias or du Bomb or somebody who's a
little bit better in their defensively.
Speaker 2 (02:18:03):
You know that remains to be seen.
Speaker 3 (02:18:04):
But you know, having that bat credits in the lineup,
if he can just work counts and use that pull
power and hit the ball close to the way he
did before he got injured, that could be a game changer,
all right.
Speaker 2 (02:18:15):
Size up the bullpen, it feels like to me, especially
with the way Brian King has pitched really all season long,
and the fact that somebody guys have been hurt. He's
your eighth inning guy, I bray you as your ninth. Generally,
give me your thoughts about what you've seen from this bullpen.
I would say. The undertone to me is it's really
been heavily worked, and you need somebody to give you
(02:18:35):
one or two of those guys this weekend, to give
you some length to give these guys a rest, especially
if they're gonna have to play another bullpen game sometime
next week out in California. Yeah, they do.
Speaker 3 (02:18:45):
And I think the best thing that could happen for
them is if they if they can run down the
Tigers and get the number two seed, which is now
back and play.
Speaker 2 (02:18:51):
I mean, they're only a game and a half behind.
Speaker 3 (02:18:54):
The Tigers, and then you get that buy and now
you're gonna you're gonna rest everybody for five days with
before you start the division series. But you know, they
have a couple of guys in the bullpen now who
can give them multiple inning outings. We've seen it, you know,
from Colton Gordon, JP Franz can throw two or three
in in So you know, I think guys like that
could be important here over the next week if it's
(02:19:15):
a blowout, or even if it's not, if you just
need somebody to give you two innings to make that
bridge to you get the King and get to a bray.
You now have guys that are capable of doing that.
But you know, if they have to fight tooth and
nail all the way down to next Sunday and use
all these guys over the week next weekend in Anaheim
and then get on a plane and go to Seattle,
(02:19:36):
or go to New York or whatever, it could be
really really tough. So I know there was one Astros
uniform member it told me he was watching the Detroit
game closer than any other score because they feel they
can run down the Tigers and get that number two seed,
which would be absolutely massive because you would get the
days off and you'd open the division series at home.
Speaker 2 (02:19:57):
And one more question about the pitching aj blue Ball.
Where do you do you think he could start a
game in the postseason? Do you think he's just going
to be a long relief? What kind of type of
role do you think he has down the stretch and
in the postseason.
Speaker 3 (02:20:09):
Yeah, I don't I don't think he'll be a starter,
but yeah, I see him as long relief. Somebody gets
in trouble, fourth or fifth, you know, you bring in
blue Ball to you know, throw those three and inns,
throw ninety seven to ninety eight, get that bridge. He
could be a huge weapon in the playoffs. He's a
fresh arm. He's another one of these guys who's absolutely fearless.
His stuff plays up in the bullpen more than it
(02:20:29):
does when he was starting. So they don't have the
you know, the one inning relievers they had earlier in
the season with SUSA and Hater and Ort being out.
But now they have these multi ending guys and when
you get to the playoffs, you can really manipulate the
way you use your bullpen. Where these guys are are
real weapons. So I think blue blue ball is going
(02:20:50):
to be a big part of that.
Speaker 2 (02:20:51):
All right, in thirty seconds, give me your crystal ball
thoughts about, well, how this weekend is going to go down?
Speaker 3 (02:20:59):
Yeah, Astars, I think of playing their best baseball since June.
The Mariners are not a good road team. I think
they've had their hot streak. I think the Astros win
two out of three. That will set them up very
well to go on a on a road trip against
two teams that are out of it. So yeah, I
think the Astros win two out of three, get a
little bit of a lead in first base, in first place,
and I think they win the division. I think they
(02:21:20):
close this thing out. If they don't, they just have
themselves to blame, because after all they've been through here,
they are with what ten games to go, nine games
to go, and they're signer in first place nine so
they get they got a chance to control their own
fate here, if that's possible.
Speaker 2 (02:21:38):
And it all starts tomorrow with the Seattle Mariners. Believe
it or not, all things about there's a great Robert Redford,
and I will ask ross the question to help you
out along the way. We'll see how this goes. How
much of sports are you know? Robert Redford seven one
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three
