Speaker 1 (00:00):
It is The Matt Thomas Show with Ross ten oh.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
One inn h Town. Good morning, and welcome to a
Thursday edition of The Matt Thomas Show with Ross. That's
his Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Start screting the news. I'm leaving today. I want to
be part of it.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
New York New your ballet the Yankee los.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
Yankie.
Speaker 5 (01:01):
Let's go again.
Speaker 6 (01:07):
Yankees, but you don't take it personalize what.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Y top of the heat? Big Poppy is a national treasure.
I don't he knows any of the players either squad,
but he's entertaining as hell, and he takes great delight
and uttering Yankees lose. He actually gave Derek Jeter and
(01:46):
Alex Rodriguez hats for their trip to King Kuon. Oh wow,
that's pretty funny. Oh my, good stuff. That is good stuff.
It's why that's that show is so entertaining, because again
you would think baseball pre or post game show, you're like,
uh whatever. I mean, no disrespect to Bill Ripkin, but
come on, zero entertainment value. I don't normally watch and
(02:09):
gives an excuse to play this song one more times.
I mean, this is great. Turn it out, baby, retire
this for the season. I'm waiting for you Yankees Keith. Yeah,
where's Yankees Keith? I'm waiting for you. James and garden Oaks.
You called it yesterday and he's not gonna call it out.
There's no chance he's calling no chance whatsoever. He's so busy.
(02:31):
He was acting like they were up to one yesterday
when they won one game. And guess what, go Blue
Jays and goat Taggers and definitely go Tigers. We are
your unofficial home for Blue Jays baseball. Where you are, Yeah,
(02:52):
I mean we're official. Hold a lot of unofficial homes. Yeah,
it feels like that way. Oh now, look if people
on sixty sixth WFA and listen to this right now,
they're like, oh, listen to Houston just saying that their
team didn't even get there. We got twenty seven rings
over here, and I got your twenty eight three right year. Okay,
(03:15):
we're gonna stop doing that because no, I don't wonder.
We're not gonna stop. We're not gonna stop, can't stop,
won't stop. I mean you can continue to say we're
not we're gonna stop, but this is but not your
favorite team's life. Don't win every year, so it's okay
to transition to not liking somebody. Does that make sense?
You hate watch? Yeah? We have. If you don't hate
(03:36):
watch things, you will turn the TV off and not
watch anything else. Again, like, imagine being a Texans fan
if you hate it. If you don't hate watch and
you're a Texans fan, you haven't seen the super Bowl
in your life? Well in the last twenty whatever years,
they've been around two thousand and two. Well, you don't
have to hate watch super Bowl. Okay, how about the
AFC Championshi Championship games? You can certainly hate watch. Yeah,
(03:58):
I don't even know. It feels like the tech since
don't even have enough to Who do the Texans hate
and root against? I mean, I guess people do Mahomes
or Travis Kelce because they're all mad about Taylor Swift,
right right right? What else? No, but I feel like
the Bills are rather beloved. My philosophy is this again,
It's okay to hate watch because at least means you're
in vested. I have asked all of you, and I
(04:20):
think unfortunately sometimes I fall onto death fierce ones is
to watch other teams not involving Houston because there is drama,
there is excitement. I wat and I like to do
it and I and look again, I can't control what
you do. You've got busy lives, and that's true. If
you carve out your life to car Houston's sports, you're like, well,
if my Houston teams aren't involved, I'm gonna go watch
my kid, or play golf with my son or walk out.
(04:41):
I can't begrudge at teasers or are you going improving
your life and spending time with your family? Just watch sports.
It's not like a sports radio host. But my point
is that, oh, you have to sometimes, Like for instance,
tonight's there's a Thursday night football game on between Philadelphia
and New York Giants. Yes, you don't have to hate
watch that. You can watch it for fantasy implication. Taste
(05:04):
to watch that, yet little taste on the UH on
the DraftKings pick six app if you are going to
do any sort of wagering, it makes sense. But if
you don't watch Philadelphia and the Giants, yeah, I get that,
because there's a significant chance I'm not going to watch it.
Put twenty on the over. We can't do that here legally,
you're not doing it intentionally, but you're doing all this
just to aggravate me, and you're aggravating yourself. You're right,
(05:27):
I'm fine. Oh no, I want gambling here. I'm gonna
tell you that right now. I will vote for any
politician all and again, I'm not votifingbody I'm going. I
don't typically do a lot of voting. I mean, it
made me a character flaw in my apartment. It's what
it is. No, it's not. I will vote for anyone
who brings legalized sports betting and gambling to the state
(05:49):
of Texas. Love it. Period. You go on in front
of a pulpit, you're at a church or something, and
say my name is Dexter Jones and I'm gonna bring
casino gambling to Houston, Texas or the entire state. I
will vote for you. I live. Donate to your campaign. Wow,
thank you, Matt, because so many other people, my friends
(06:09):
across this country when I go to other cities. Look,
if there are vices in life. There's alcohol, there's drugs,
there is gambling. I mean sure, there's plenty of vices
in life that you have to control. Yes, and if
and in Franklin, marijuana, I mean marijuana is legal in
many states. That's true if you do things within control,
(06:32):
under controlled situations. I don't overindulge. It's good, but there's
gonna addictions no matter what it is. And I would
like to have the opportunity to put a couple of wages.
And now I know me, I don't have an addictive
personality on a lot of things, so I think I
would be able to handle it pretty well.
Speaker 7 (06:47):
I do.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Or how's your craps? I haven't played in stating from
crabs at least a year. Right when you and I
went to Roca? Right, Yeah, we found you at the table,
mister I quick crab. That's because somebody said, hey, one
hundred dollars. But I'm that's like we found our friend
quitting crack in the in the alleyway with a crack
pipe but felt bad. How many times did I play
craps when I was in the lake Charles with you?
(07:10):
I don't know. I wasn't around you the whole time.
Be a zero. You do your little eight am session,
I don't know what you're doing there because I'm sleeping.
It's true. Frusty and Matt don't hang out at an am.
I'm more of them I'm more of the lapp to
be there at one am, and you're more apped to
be there at eight eight. That is exactly right, all right,
So back to it. So the Yankees are out, that's
a shame, and I'm fully expected Yankees. So yeh, here's
(07:31):
the thing. We always welcome all of you to join
the show at seven one three, two one two five
seven ninety. Also, I want half credit for something. No,
you're not getting it. I've already I've had a chance
to think about this. You asked for this half credit
last night, and you're not going did That's right. We
were talking at the Rockets game, which we have to
talk about as well. Yeah. Uh, I had a gut
feeling that Kyle Tucker would get an extra base hit.
(07:51):
He got two singles that adds up to a double
matt and a walk, throwing a walk for Cherry on top.
But neither one of those hits were extra bass hits.
If you said Maddie got an extra base after his
first hit, if you would have said he's gonna get
two total bases a walk, then I would have accepted
then a walk. Yeah, I mean, it's semantics at this point.
(08:12):
Two singles, walk it's a semantics free conversation. He's do
our extra base hit or it's not okay, Well, there's
no gray area, you know how you like it's the
blue or gray or white and black or what red
and red is white and white? I don't know. Black
is black? White is white? Okay, there's no gray area.
You lost? They got and that's okay. I'm taking half credit.
You can do it. Take all the credit you want.
Jonathan and I are like, you get nothing. Two singles
(08:32):
in a walk nothing, good guy, Good day from Kyle Tucker.
Teams are gonna be writing that blank check after and
slugging him two twenty five. What's he slugging right now?
It's got to be too Yeah, you're sitting two fitty
slugging two fitty, not a huge slug. It's not bad,
not great, It's not bad. Could be good for a
short samp side better all right. On the radio program today,
(08:56):
We've got at eleven thirty, Today We've got I just
don't get it. This is the half hour of the
show once a week that we sit back and we
just throw things at each other that we just don't get.
I mean, it could be a plethora of things could
be sports, lead, it could be the life for later.
It could be cooking. It could be I don't know, gambling.
I don't care cooking all right, Like, for instance, I
like green cream gravy and bron gravy, and people that
(09:19):
think they think bron gravy is the anti Christ, and
I just I th both. Situationally, I would say eight
times out of ten, I'm going cream gravy over brown gravy.
I used to be eight to ten, brown more fifty
to fifty. That's good, right, you prefer the cream, No,
it's equal. I enjoy the cream as much as I
love the brown. Seven one three two one two five
(09:43):
sevenati if that's how you reach the show today? Also
coming up, we get the news at noon, We've got rotten,
the rotten five at twelve fifty where I listened to
a national show yesterday. They were doing their power rankings,
and it was so pathetic, yes, because it took no
re and no one to tell me how great the
Detroit Lions are. It takes nothing special to tell me
(10:05):
how great the Philadelphia Eagles are. Quizz number one of
the power rankings right now. Actually, uh, Wells Bills, Oh yeah,
by the time breaker, but it doesn't make them the
best team. I don't think the loss of the Patriots, right,
it's gonna be busy. We're not doing it. It takes
(10:25):
zero ability to give you who the best five are.
It takes something special today. Who the five warst are?
I can't wait, and we got The Texans won't be
in there because they got back to back wins. Baby, No,
they're They're there where their normal spot is, and that's fifteen. Yeah,
we did. If we did the middle five, we'd be
in the Texas there. The Texans would be the all
time Hall of Fame. Yeah, yeah, they would be the
(10:46):
well Bury buns on the home. Bengals would be in
that middle five, right. Generally Steelers, Steelers would be staples
of the mid five. No, Steelers would be like in
the in the decent thirteen. Yeah, Like they're around eleven, twelve,
thirteen every year, every year thinking there's no way they
can make the playoffs, and then oh my god, here
they are.
Speaker 8 (11:06):
There.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
They are in one with airy year old forty one
year old Aaron Rodgers and he's not killing it. He's
just been okay, Right. I don't think they're like going
oh my god, this offense is so explosive. And then
at one thirty we got Willie Fritzer's weekly visit on
the radio show, Cougar is going to Oklahoma State this Saturday.
Huge game for an eleven o'clock game. The game is
so big we're putting it on T n T at
(11:26):
nine to fifty k Precy at eleven am. Yeah, pre
game at ten with me. I'm nine to fifty from Stillwater.
Three episodes of Charmed and then you of hed Cougars football.
I've never been to Stillwater for a football game. I'm
gonna go walk on the field because that that concrete
brick wall. I hate close it's it's like five feet away.
It's dangerous. I hated when the Long Runs had to
(11:48):
play there every other year. Yeah, because you're just getting nert.
People get hurt. And then when the band comes on
the field close to halftime and they really much a year. Yeah,
like there's no room. It's like you're in the club
at one am. Everybody's trying to play football. It's not right.
It's it's frankly dangerous. And I'm the Cougar's about fifteen
years ago had a player seriously hurt there. Yeah, but
(12:11):
it's I'm actually rare. It's crazy how rare it is,
with how close it is. Yeah, everybody has to be aware.
Kt made his rocket debut. It's just the breeze. He's Yeah,
I'm fired up. Maybe ten thirteen on Sports Talk seven
ninety speaking Shanggoon crossover against Nrkitch adds it back to
(12:35):
Katie right down the lane, easy jams. We've seen that
only about the last seventeen or eighteen years. Time out
Will Harding the Utah Jazz Shangoon beyond the rings now
comes inside the ark, hands it out left side to Durin.
He's gonna fall and put up a shot attempt for
(12:57):
the right baseline that is up and in and he
has spouted. Kevin Durant loves that baseline mid range. K
not sitting down and put himself in double figures. Yeah,
here comes all right. Yeah, I'm not gonna use my
(13:20):
list material for the preseason. Okay, I just can't. Why not,
it's new Tom the preseason, it's just the preseason opening
night Oklahoma City. I did I did say something to Ross.
I did use in the broadcast something, but I didn't
think I was going to do. But I'm always trying
to figure out different ways to If you say the
(13:42):
same thing every time, Kevin or Durant or Katie, you're
so I'm just calling the game, just kind of just
get my you know, what's about having him, you know,
rooting for hims compared to hoping he misses every shot,
and he had a shot and I called him the Durantula,
And I didn't think I was going to do that.
I don't think that will do it on the regular,
But I was, like I said, I was just trying
to kind of float off the tongue. Yeah, just working
(14:04):
my way through navigating these these waters of one of
the greatest players of all time. Now we're in rocket gear.
All five starters last night scoring in double figures. Houston
took care of Utah in a defense optional game by
multiple accounts, although one time Alprin Shingoon did not play
very good defense and he Meha Dooka called a time
out immediately and ran the middle of the floor and
(14:25):
chewed his ass out. Yes, I did see that. I
was at the game. Yeah, I got tickets from a
great friend. Well, I wouldn't be publicizing that too much,
but thank you. Ah, I'd say who it was and
you shouldn't have and I didn't. Yeah, thank Gordy for
those tickets. Ten twenty one on Sports Talk seven out
he seven one three two one two five seven OUTI look,
(14:45):
he does what he does. He takes a little bit
to get warmed up. Then he puts up four or
five baskets in a row. He'll turn the ball over
a couple of times, and it's, uh, you know, a
twelve point seven rebound game in about sixteen minutes of play,
basically look good. And he even got a dunk in
the paint. Doesn't score much in the paint these days,
he did when he was a youngin Nope, Because I
mean anything fifteen feet in is basically a layup for
(15:05):
him as it is. But he's gonna be able to
sky over anybody that's six eight garden him. He just is, wait,
go bag dunked. It was like his standing reach, as
they call it in the basketball scouting world. Yes, it's
like basically at the basket, it's basically to the rim.
It's ridiculous. Yeah, but he looked very comfortable. I think,
you know, I think he liked the rockets for a reason.
(15:26):
Because he's got a couple of X teammates with him,
he's got a coach that he knows from international to
play and from when he was in Brooklyn and was
an assistant there, and he said he wants to be
coached hard. Yeah, And as you said, he is calling
timeouts even though there was like two minutes left in
the half, and he called the timeout to chew everybody
that was not just specifically Shinoon that time, it was
(15:46):
everybody mm hm. And you know it feels like most coaches,
like two minutes left in a preseason game, we'll talk
about it a halftime, right, No, No, you Fhills who
don't know. In the NBA, you have two mandatory timeouts
per quarter that has to happen, and those are two
lengthy ones. After the second one meaning the third anything
else is called the rest at court. Those are seventy seconds. Yes,
(16:07):
so a timeout is called and I'm thinking, okay too,
like wait a minute, we already had the second timeout.
We're gonna go to a seventy second break? Why? Or
is the image just chewing ass? Yes, he was not playing.
It was like preseason against the Utah Jazz two minutes
to half, and he's acting like it's the finals. I
love that.
Speaker 9 (16:25):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
There is a kid on the Utah Jazz team and
he literally is a kid.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
He was the fifth pick overall in last year's draft.
His name was Ace Bailey. We mentioned Ace Bailey a
little bit around the draft and for those who don't remember,
very talented player out of Rutgers. The basketball factor at
is Rutgers University. And there was a lot of conversation
about where he wanted to go, if he wanted to
hand choose where he got to go. Utah Jazz is like,
(16:50):
we know you guys don't like coming to Utah. We
get it. We're still taking you. And then it took
him a while to get on a plane and go
see the people in Utah. Yeah, a lot on his plate.
He's busy. He wasn't he at all. He was like
he was. I think he was brooding until the agent said,
you've got no choice. Either either you go there or
you said another season. His given name is Arius. I
(17:10):
like Ace better the limit Now. That was first I've
ever saw him play in person. He's really good, hits threes,
can defend, go to the basket score twenty five. He
now Granted, he was out there more than anybody else
was because they were playing starters late in the fourth. Yeah,
it was like Nurkic was playing late and I was
worried about the eleven and a half of the Rockets. Shawe,
Mkayluke was out there, your buddy. Yeah, that guy that
(17:33):
guys thrown down al oops. Yeah, So he's really good now, Granny,
He's gonna be very good for a team that's gonna
win I don't know, seventeen eighteen games. Maybe they're gonna
surprise the question's gonna have. They're gonna trade Lorie Market
and the old man, Kevin Love is out there with
his gray hair, Yeah, trying to knock down threes and
not because he wants to make them. Dis doesn't want
(17:54):
to go all the way in the low block. He
was out there late in the fourth quarter. I'm like,
can you let this man sleep? I was like, what
is a Kevin wants to make a What? How is
my career gonna end? I mean, Utah back into the
bench and I'm playing in the fourth quarter of a
meaningless preseason game. And by the way, I've been saying
Lebron should be doing this for years Kevin Love just
rocks the gray hair. It makes you appreciate him more.
You're like, wow, look at this old This old dude
(18:16):
is out there on the floor running up and down.
If Lebron would have let the hairline go and then
go full gray, we'd all be like, oh my god,
this is incredible. He's dropping twenty seven, seven and eight
at forty years old. I think there's the reason why
he does it. I think the hair is splotchy. I
don't think he wants to do it that way. I
think about Lebron. Yeah, that's what I'm saying, let it go,
(18:37):
but it wouldn't be uneven. Yeah, but everybody he would get, like,
I would say, seventy five percent less hate for doing
what he's doing on the floor, okay, fifty okay, twenty
five percent. Yeah they hate. Still there Steve steven A
with a gray half row out there throwing down dunks
like Lebron James. Yeah, you'd be insane. Yeah, I Lebron's
(18:59):
catching it for doing a whole You would be like
Uncle Drew would be like watching Uncle Drew. Yeah, I
don't need to see that. I think you should do it.
What's the most famous thing that Uncle Drew has ever done.
Made a movie called Uncle Drew. That's it with Shaq? Yeah,
the Kyrie Irving movie. Was it good? I didn't catch it? Yes,
my wife, the most famous movie he's ever done, and
(19:21):
you didn't see it? You are you tam Uncle Drew?
Speaker 9 (19:24):
Sure?
Speaker 2 (19:25):
Why not? Sixty two percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Great, you
wanted to be at least seventy correct. Yeah, Shaq was
in the movie, Chris Weber, Boy, it was a it
was you men, an all star team out Chew Miller,
Lisa Leslie. Yeah, I didn't catch it. Yeah, I'm sure
it was great. You know, well the way you know
I started doing, we used to do a seven to
ninety movie night. We've been saying this for like a decade.
(19:46):
It's never gonna happen. All right, but go ahead. I
need to watch The Bachelor Party. I still haven't done that.
Bachelor Party is on your list? Have you seen airplanes
start to finish? Absolutely multiple times?
Speaker 9 (19:56):
All right?
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Great movie? Okay, that's when I'm not gonna give you,
uh many things you like? Are weird? Airplane hilarious? Okay? Uh,
you want me to watch walk Hard? That doesn't matter.
What's the one Friday. You want me to see Friday Friday.
You haven't seen Friday Friday yet? Oh my god. Okay,
so lived. So our six week movie series is going
(20:17):
to be Bachelor Party had Young Tom Hanks and Adrian's
a d Yes, yeah, Uncle Drew apparently because I don't
think I don't think. I don't think Uncle drews and
the Triple Bill you can leave for that. No, we
got to do one week. We got to figure out
what Jonathan hasn't seen. That's like unbelievably he hasn't seen anything.
(20:37):
Have you seen Star Wars Jonathan of cos? Al right,
have you seen The Godfather? I fell asleep though? Have
you seen e t It looks creepy.
Speaker 10 (20:49):
You know.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
I like old movies, but that one just made me cry.
Good Fellas, Goodell, what is wrong with you? How do you?
I mean like, I haven't seen good Fellows either, but
how do you fall for like messing around with your
lady or something that's exactly what it is? I tried
watching good pulp fiction. Oh, by the way, I don't
like pulp fiction, Jonathan. By the way, I fell asleep
during pulp fiction. Wink wink, all right, man, if he's
(21:18):
falling asleep. I can fall asleep too, That's true. I
do only like pulp fiction. I think, Daran, that's one
of his worst. Like comedy Wise, I guess I know
it's a good movie. It's not.
Speaker 7 (21:27):
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
I've only seen the first half far of it. Like
his like jokes, he said, Darren like Tancy, No, I don't.
I don't know. I like other movie he just I
just watch Reservoir Dogs and Glorious Bastards, Jackie brownupon a
Time in Hollywood. I don't think we can Philmography, Nathan,
we can't do a movie series of Ross because he's
gonna shame us in all the great movies we haven't seen. Okay,
(21:47):
let's go.
Speaker 10 (21:48):
Real quick before we go to break all right, Ross,
what do you think is the best like five you
can think of all time? It's the best you can
think of on top of your Yeah, I would, I
would say Good Fellows, Godfather, Pulp Fiction's up there. I
actual prefer Jackie Brown and Glorious Bastard's is great. Uh,
there will be blood you go with Paul Thomas Anderson.
Boogie Knights is fantastic.
Speaker 6 (22:08):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
Christopher Nolan Films like Memento Oppenheimer, the The Dark Knight trilogy.
I'm really excited for The Odyssey coming out. I mean,
that's just kind of playing. Oh. Stanley Kubrick's one of
the all time greats. Of course, the Shining is great.
My one of my favorite comedies of all time is
Doctor Strangelove. He also did a full metal jacket. If
(22:29):
you're looking into war films, I got atacular. You are IMDb.
That's I mean, that's just the easy stuff Menso is
a point when I was in college, well this is
now back in mid day, Jonathan. Netflix used to be
a mail in service and you could. They would just
you'd make a list of DVDs and you would mail
them in and they'd be back at your house like
(22:49):
two days.
Speaker 8 (22:51):
It was.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
It was great. And so when I was in college,
I was knocking out there. The AFI American Film Institute
made a top one hundred list, and I tried to
knock out like as much as the top one hundred
list is possible. You know, it's funny you're talking about
how much you loved Netflix. It was awesome when when
red Box came out and they said you don't have
to take it back to the same location. I thought
this is a one game changer, until I realized that
(23:14):
no one used DVDs anymore. I didn't even mention well
I mentioned Goodfellas for Scorsese, Casino, Taxi driver, Raging Bull. Oh,
tax driver is a really good Okay, I say, text driver. Okay,
there you go, mister IMDb over here. I mean, I
respect it because I just haven't. I don't have that
kind of movie catalog in my head. Mm hmm, thank you, Matt.
But I got useless. I got useful sitcoms the seventies.
(23:37):
You want to roll that, let's go. Hey, if you
if I want to ask you about if you want
to get quizzed on random game shows, You're ready. Game shows,
seventy sitcoms, uh, and occasional soap opera conversation. That's what
I'm here for, all right. So waiting for Yankees Keith
to call in, Still waiting for James and Garden James.
Speaker 11 (23:53):
And Garden Oaks, waiting talking about the Yankees that ran
Boom Cane hold Joja Rid.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
Yeah, I have not looked at h Nick Deteruro's Twitter.
We'll go check. Oh I saw it is, he said,
come on my four you tab somehow, all right, we'll
see how he's feeling about these things. Ten thirty one
on The Matt Thomas Show with Ross We've got to
just don't get it coming up at eleven thirty, The
Rotten five at twelve fifty and Believe It or Not
today at one fifty seven one three two one two
five seven ninety. If you want to join our conversation
today seven one three two one two five seven ninety
(24:23):
with the seven one three two one two five seven ninety,
if you want to jump into the conversation that Ross
and I are having about a variety of things, including
last night's wackets game. If you were apple to watch
the game, listen to it, or we're in person. We
keep using the term surreal, but it feels like it
was surreal watching Kevin Durant with the word rocks across
(24:44):
his chest and hopefully he's doing it for the foreseeable future.
It was cool. Yeah, when he got introduced, of course
from Texas Longhorn legend retired number. You know, it's funny,
you know what I was talking about this when you're
doing games now and colleges do it way more announcers
do it than pros so colleges. When you're doing by player,
(25:06):
you just say, you know John Jones, who was a
sophomore sixty five, two sixty five, he played high school
football at TEXARKANAA and you were moved on. Now you've
got played by play. Broadcasters are saying the former UMass
mint Man or the former Central Florida Golden Knight or
the former Arkansas razorback. There's so much transferring. Imagine if
(25:28):
you do the starting lineups of NBA teams and you said,
at six eleven, Ford started out in Oklahoma City, went
to Golden State, then to Brooklyn, DA Phoenix under Rockets. Hey,
come on, be kind of wordy. Well, but if you've
been the league, I mean, you've been in the league
eighteen years. The thought of playing for one team in
(25:49):
this day and age, I mean, I feel very confident
saying that we will never see an NBA player play
for just one team ever. Again. We're seeing it very
rarely in college. I mean in professional baseball and Joseel
two Bay is the one off. There's a few that
you could do that. Uh, you know, but Mike Trout
(26:12):
gonna finish as an angel, probably Aaron Judge will probably
retired Yankee, but you're talking about a handful of Bobby Waite,
huge contract fourteen years. Yeah, so, I mean, but my
point is that you in the NBA, it is just
considered normal to play for multiple teams. Well, you can't
even sign a ten year deal in basketball in the night, No,
(26:34):
they have one implementations. Yeah, but even so, it traded
or like I'm trying to think like even I mean,
we talked about the greatest of them all, Keim, Elijah,
you know, Dwayne Wade went and played for the Bulls
and then came back to the Heat. I'm trying to
think of who's the most. Obviously, Kobe was a lifelong Laker,
John Stockton a lifelong Jazz. Yeah, I'm gonna try to
think of like the last fifteen years of recent Hall
(26:57):
of famers.
Speaker 9 (26:59):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
Dominique Wilkins wasn't even a career Atlanta Hawk. He was
just in down the other day. That's true. Spurs and stuff, right, Yah, yeah,
he bounce around. But even Carmel and his career with
the Lakers. Oh, I forgot about that. Actually, honestly, if
you were let's do this, Let's take a look at
who is in the league right now and who could
(27:22):
possibly end his career with this original team. So let
me let's show some people out there. Okay, I don't
think Giannis is going to stay in Milwaukee the rest
of his career, so we'll put it. We'll take Does
Victor webbiny have a chance to be a Spur for life?
Probably got a chance. You see he's seven for five now, Yeah,
gain two inches yokis with Maybe nuggets might make him
a nugget for life? Yeah? Who else would be potentially
(27:47):
a player for life? Dirk was a Maverick for life, right, yes,
even though he got traded from the Minnesota so he
never wore any other uniform. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm
just going through recent Hall of Fame class, right, Genobili
was a Spur for life? But but you know what
did he knock around somewhere? Janobili finished somewhere else? I
(28:09):
want to say, no Spurs all the way through? Wow? Okay,
Tim Duncan was a Spur all the way through? Was
Tony Parker? No, Tony Parker plates played somewhere else Charlotte.
Yeah that was Tony Parker. What's otter? Tony Parker? Is
a hornet or a kim Elija Want is a raptor both. Yeah.
(28:30):
But but you know what, today's young fans don't necessarily care. No,
a lot of fans are fans of players rather than tea.
I mean because of this what we're talking. I have
a son, my oldest just highways, go my son, and
he's tell my, somebody's he's a young adult. Now he's
still he still is. The DNA results back that up.
(28:51):
He looks exactly like you. Yeah, he chases, he chases
the player. Yeah, he doesn't chase the team. Now he
has affinity for his tech to thatch Red Raiders. But
that's you know, but that's about it. M hm. I
mean there are people bumping around Houston that couldn't imagine
being a Kevin Duran fan that are not because he's
(29:13):
were in the Houston gear. But then, you know what,
that's just kind of the opposite I was trying to explain.
But there are't guys. I mean, if Steph currole by
Steph Cree would be a good example. Steph Curry could be
a Golden State player for life. Yes, Draymond Green maybe
could be a Golden State warrior for life. True, So
maybe there's more than we thought. They were gonna be
just a handful. Yeah, but it's not like it used
to be. No, But either way, he asked, I couldn't
(29:36):
imagine Steph Curry and they're gonna take care of him. No,
Steph Curry's retiring as a Golden State Warrior. Draymond Green
may go have a one off in Orlando or something.
He like put brought up the value of that franchise
like tenfold. It is. It is the number one franchise
in the NBA. And look, I understand the value of
San Francisco, huge media market, huge industry there, big fan base.
(30:03):
Basketball is really really popular in the Bay Area. Yeah,
but what I still antay Ellison the Boys, they weren't
that value. Yeah, A brief sprites or whatever. That guy's
name was Donald Foyle and Bedrin's that's not going to
move the needle for him. But he he basically made
him and obviously the Klay Thompson, the Splash Brothers and
(30:24):
Dreamond and whatnot, and but made them the most valuable
commodity in the NBA, which is saying something. Because the
New York Knicks are a franchise, it has championship pedigree
in the biggest media market, playing in the world's most
famous sports arena. I mean they're in the you know,
the number one media market, So yeah, I can't. Yeah, yeah,
STEP's not going anywhere else. He's he's got a retire
(30:44):
goal and I would say so it's rare and hopefully
I'm in. Thompson is so good. He hit a corner
three last night. Untouchable. Untouchable Thompson. That's what we're gonna
call him. Call him All Star if you want, be
nice to make one All Star, call them Defensive League,
Defensive MVP Player of the Year. That'd be nice. I'm
already for that, all right, ten forty two on the
(31:05):
Matt Thomas Show with Ross. If you guys want to
chime in, you ten o'clockers, y'all there, let's go. Is
this thing on? I seriously, let's just rip on the
Yankees for the next three hours plus down. I'm all
for that. And I also, yes, I think you're right.
You can't win the American Linkue Pennant and then get
(31:26):
fired the next season. You know who also's name we
haven't mentioned, Clayton Kershaw, who is throwing puss an appropriate
term for that. Is there a player in history who's
dominance in the regular season and then just absolutely would
(31:47):
you call it just haplessness or just ineffectiveness in the postseason?
Is such a stark difference, I would call it despair. Yeah,
I mean, because he's going the Hall of Fame, right, Yeah,
he's going to the Hall of Fame. It's a lifetime era.
It's around two, isn't it. Let me pull this up.
He's the greatest April to October piccher I've ever seen
(32:08):
in my life, and maybe the worst post October in
eighteen years. He's got an era of two fifty three.
It's been dodging injuries a last handful of years. Two
fifty three payoff on this. What's his career era in
the postseason. That's actually not that bad for sixty three,
but that's still I don't know. When you are two,
(32:29):
would you say two fifty three to two go to
four sixty three? That that's two different people over a
large sample. Two forty one games. That's a lot for
the postseason. That's a good sample size compared to the
number of games you play. That's a great sample size.
That's almost a season. It starts. All right, we need
is the season to start more than a season? Are
we seeing damage control in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. We'll
(32:51):
discuss that. Oh man, that's getting wild a lot to
get to come on in join us seven one three.
We don't bite. We maybe do, but lord, that was
oh I'm sorry, that was Austin Powers. I don't bite
hard seven one two five guys seven one three two
(33:13):
one two five seven ninety has expected Ross and I
went to go look at Nick Taturo's Twitter account and
he doesn't disappoint. We're going to play it for you
in the top of the eleven o'clock hour if we
have enough time to edit it. Ross bombs. There's so
much language we would get probably a six figure fine
from the Federal Communications Commission, so we can't. We're having
(33:36):
to heavily edit it. Yes, he's very upset, uh, as
is the case, and he knows that's his stick. And
that's good because first of all, I think it's authentic.
But second of all, he did with a camera on,
so Yankee knows he knows, so it's good. Yankees. Keith,
you've got the cart blatch seven one three where you
at let's go start spreading the news. Let's go. Were
(33:57):
you Yankees, Keith? Were you on sixty? Well you James
and god Oakes, come on, baby, let's go. I'm here.
We gett got more Yankees talk yesterday than Astros. I think, yeah, Now,
nothing funny how that works? It is funny. How oh,
y'all trash and the Yankees are gonna win five World Series?
(34:18):
I mean, come on, well, maybe he's back to Texans, Keith.
We'll put this way. Is there anything that you and
I do that we go in hiding? I don't think
we I don't think you well, we can't. We got
this job. That's I'd like to go take some time off,
that's true. I mean Longhors lose to owe. You might
take Monday off. I did. I did do the show
the day after North Florida. Be uh, you did? And
(34:42):
I held off for a couple of days. Yeah, But
the most important thing that you said is a couple
of days. You didn't completely hold off. I would I
if you're gonna brag all tournament long about how you're
winning the championship, yeah, for weeks and weeks and weeks yep,
and months of months and months yep, you know, I
(35:04):
gotta get my shot. Said yeah, I know when your team,
when the team chokes and he doesn't get a shot
off in the last possession with the championship on the line,
that's got to hurt. I mean, didn't feel great. I'm sorry, Matt.
I'm sorry to you and and real Cougars fans out
(35:25):
there everywhere. Thank you. Last night they had Walter Clayton
Junior played twenty minutes for the Utah Jazz. Walter Clayton,
last scene, in my eyes, was the most outstanding player
for the University of Florida in the National Championship game.
I wanted to go put like a master, like a
jinx on him or something like a yes, and I
just you wanted to go jink some. I want to go.
(35:47):
You don't want to do, Jonathan, I want to go.
I want to go to do. He went three of ten. Okay,
it was a minus thirteen. That's way I heard. I
was getting slandered on the on the broadcast. You did
kick brought up. I forgot what it was about. Adam
Clinton called me a bad text or something. I don't
know how you're talking about texting rules. This is at
(36:10):
the fourth quarter of a preseason game. I've imagine go. Yeah,
we were talking, he said, is your rule still in place?
I said, the rules in place. If you text me
and I don't, you don't. If I text you excuse
me and you don't respond to me within two hours
of the text, your phone gets locked until you respond.
You've gotten more than two hours from responding to me
multiple times, not lately. I am in your group of
(36:34):
friends and family. I'm a top five text returner to you.
I don't know about it. You are in my group
of life. You're into five, Jonathan, Jonathan, you're also terrible
at it as well. Yeah, see I'll mess here. I
got the sound effects better. That's true. All right, So
let me get to Bill Belichick. So there were some
(36:54):
published reports and look, well, used to when you say
it was when you used to have the legitimate we
could say publish reports. Now it's internet rumors. Well, that
guy's from the Guardian, right, he's got twenty thousand followers.
What's his name, something Connolly or whatever. So there is
a report that Bill Belichick would be willing to step
(37:18):
aside from North Carolina, providing he had a good landing spot. Whatever.
That means my assumption would be either another coaching job
somewhere or back on television. Allie Connolly is the reporter.
The Guardian is a British paper, but he works for that.
I guess the United States Bureau of the Guardian. Okay,
so you so how log you is that?
Speaker 9 (37:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (37:40):
Exactly, I don't know. So North Carolina had to go
on their socials and say, we are committed to Bill Belichick.
We are committed to North Carolina football. Oh my gosh,
he got like ten thousand followers in the last day.
He's at thirty six now he was at like twenty
yesterday or twenty something. So it worked for him. Then, Yeah,
(38:05):
all right, So they did a bunch of if you
want the report from him, please, Per sources, Bill Belichick
has discussed bio options with North Carolina's hierarchy. Belichick has
signaled a willingness to trigger his own one million dollar
buyout if he can find a soft landing with another
team or in media. He's not gonna play for He's
not gonna coach another team again. He's done. Either this
(38:26):
is he's going to finish this out at North Carolina
and get this thing fixed, or he's going to either
go into retirement or going back to television. He's done
as a coach. Members of his staff have already spoken
to other schools that are expected to be in the
playoffs about taking on roles during this postseason. I guess
you're a coach. You can't coach for another team until
the postseason starts or something. I don't know. Anyways, his
(38:47):
coaching staff is looking for other other jobs. And also
this is this is an interesting one. Reports of serious
recruiting violations remain under investigation at UNC. It's all from
that one guy. They got ten thousand new followers Yestuda.
Recruiting and practice violations have already been proven by the school,
according to multiple sources. Okay, practice violations can be easy
(39:12):
to detect because everything is logged when you get on
the field, when you practice, how much time they're in
the workroom, in the workout rooms, how much they are
in the film study, how much are on the field,
how much hitting there's going on that can be that's chronicled.
Recruiting violations. That to me, I mean, that's a fine
line because you're talking about nil stuff. Because you can
(39:37):
pay the players out of your north Carol Aunt of money. Now,
you can't give them more than what you're allowed to
give them, which is a certain budget. You can push
them to nil people, but the nil people have to
do the heavy lifting. You can't do it yourself. So
maybe who knows, But I mean, was there Maybe I
would think if you're saying recruiting violations, maybe contacting kids
(39:57):
in areas where you can't talk there's a quiet period.
That could be just a situation where Bill Belichick DI
don't even know he was breaking the rules because he
doesn't know college football and he, you know, contacting people. Yeah,
outside of periods where he was supposed to something else
would be a very in the big picture of things,
a very minor violation. Yeah, So who knows. Look, I
(40:18):
don't like him. I respect him, but I don't I
don't like him. I don't like the way he treats people.
I don't like his the way he is this very glib, funny,
interesting television reporter or analysts when he's making good money,
and he becomes a major a hole when he's not.
But he's still great, one of the greatest coaches ever.
(40:38):
But he's ruining his legacy. I mean, is he really,
is he really going to have the fire in the
belly to fix the program? Is probably going to go
three and nine this year. I guess whether they're two
and four now or something like that. Yeah, they've been
blown out multiple times. They're they're horrible. Their wins are
against directional North Carolina schools. It's pretty bad. I mean,
(41:02):
if i'm him, I'm gonna get out. I'm gonna take
my little hussy with me and we're gonna go have
a nice long vacation and get away from everybody and
then show up on the Manning Cast next year and
be beloved, like you know, it was great on the
Manning Cast. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (41:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (41:16):
The last two weeks they lost thirty eight to attend
to Clemson and thirty four to nine to UCF in
that UCF game. Well, which one the Clemson game was
a home game, I think. Yeah, they've had the first
past town, first player in the game, two home games
and two annihilations. TCU beat him in week one badly,
(41:36):
forty eight to fourteen, and then Clemson, as you mentioned,
Bill Retire, Hey, they got a road win at Charlotte,
who's out the road victory against home for Richmond. Yeah,
like I said, I didn't know the Richmond Spiders had
a football team, and that's their FCS I believe. So
that's not even that's not even a real the old
Division one win. Let's get the second hour of the
Matt Thomas Show with Ros started here at a matter
(41:57):
of moments. If you'd like to join us, you may
do so at seven one three two one two five
seven ninety six Love It Oh three on Sports Talk
seven ninety It is a Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
We are with you today until two o'clock, so I
got three hours left to go. We want you to
be a part of the program. We do invite your
phone calls. If they're really good ones, we're gonna elevate
your life and make you feel better about yourself. If
(42:18):
they're terrible calls, which is a great chance to make
fun of you, but we still love you in regardless.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety We
have open lines, especially for the New York Yankee fans,
James and Garden Oaks and Yankees. Keith, you are still
on the clock to call anytime, and we're here all
two o'clock. We're not going anywhere. We'll take a few
commercial breaks. We've got great sponsors, but that's about it.
We're gonna be here the rest of the way. Plenty
(42:40):
of time for you to come in and talk about
your Yankees losing to the Toronto Blue Jays. Yeah. The
crazy thing to me is how they were both acting
like they won one game in a five game series. Yeah,
and they were both acting like they were up nine
to nothing, correct in the in a clinching game. Yeah. Yep,
Yankees fans all accurate, right, there never change alright, seven
(43:00):
one three two one two five, seven ninety. If you
want to join the shows against seven one three two
one two five seven ninety. Uh, we've got a pair
of baseball games tonight and the American League, and you
should say in the National League side of things, Uh,
we have this evening the Phillies and the Dodgers at
five o'clock. The Brewers and Cubs play at eight. Man.
(43:22):
I just I still don't think it's smart putting Brewers
Cubs on that late at night. Now, again, they're going
against Thursday night football, So it doesn't matter. These two
teams are gonna these two games are gonna get demolished
by the NFL. Stuff. That's interesting. They put the Dodgers
so early. Yeah. Uh, Philadelphia and the Giants play in
East Rutherford. It's seven point fifteen and Philadelphia is a
seven and a half point favorite in that game. Detroit Seattle.
(43:46):
By the way, we'll play tomorrow in a deciding game
five in Seattle, m and that will be at seven o'clock.
And they're putting that on Fox, Big Fox, No FS two,
no MLB Network Spotlight game or something like that. It's
gonna be on the Big one. The Glowtorch. Go Tigers, Please,
Go Tigers. Is that Is that too much to say? No,
(44:06):
it's not too much to say. All right, So want
to make sure let's we ain't got the Yankees to lose.
So that's good. That's right halfway home. Let's talk to
Ron on the southeast side eleven o five on the
Matt Thomas Show. Ross, Ron, thank you for waiting, and
good morning to you.
Speaker 8 (44:19):
How y'all doing today? Man?
Speaker 2 (44:20):
Amazing? Thank you?
Speaker 12 (44:22):
Okay, hey man, I just want don't you and Ross
jump on me for not knowing this, But for the
last five or six months I was excited to see
what Cam with More was gonna do for the Rockers
this year. I'm sorry, my surprise, don't jump on me
to my surprise, like three days ago he's been traded.
Speaker 4 (44:39):
But then that's out something.
Speaker 12 (44:40):
Did they trade him because he wasn't good in the
locker room but he didn't play defense, or the coach
didn't like him and one more things. Soon they got
more than just two second round picks for him, They
should have got a first feel.
Speaker 2 (44:52):
I think, uh, the reality is this, he was given
a couple of opportunities last year Ron to make the rotation,
and his defense was poor. It was kind of a
shoot first and everything about everything else second, and it's
just didn't vibe. And sometimes coaches and players and teams
don't vibe. And they liked Cam and said, look, we're
(45:15):
gonna send you somewhere we can go play and score
a bunch of points and have very little pressure put
on you. And the Washington Wizards was the supreme place
for him to go, and that's what they went. And so, yeah,
he wasn't no first round talent. You couldn't get a
first round for him. I think two second rounds not bad,
especially if the Wizards are terrible. That means that those
in theory could be two decent second round selections that
you could use in under trade possibility. So yeah, no,
(45:36):
no surprise there at all.
Speaker 7 (45:39):
Okay, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 2 (45:42):
Huh first rocket call out of the show. I would
have thought, man watching Katie doing his thing was cool.
We got a cam went more call in. Yeah, he
would just come in garbage time and score a bunch
of points and it looked good, especially when he was
shooting hot, which overall the numbers weren't terrible. Third three
point shooter, almost thirty six percent in his two years
(46:04):
as a Houston Rocket. So he would come in and
fill up the bucket, and then a lot of people
would get hopes their hopes up about him possibly being something.
But I think to me it was just more volume.
And then there were the other issues, as you mentioned,
the defensive issues. It didn't seem like he was very
culchable speaking out in the media about being unhappy with
its role and unhappy where he was. It's like, dude,
(46:24):
you just started the game and scored twenty five points
and you're talking about how mad you are. Just seems
like not a what do they say with the Texans,
the cultural fit, Yeah, there was not a lot of
joy in his face. The demeanor kind of said it
all wanted to be somewhere else and maybe not a
cultural fit with the Rockets, who want to be everybody.
What do they say? Sometimes me, sometimes you, but always us.
(46:47):
The Houston Rockets would say, let's get some T shirts
made of that. I think they did make something with
a seven ninety logo on him always us. Oh okay,
with seven ninety logos? Sure, why not? We can sell them.
And it was became was like no, always me, yeah, always,
it's always us when I'm out there, sometimes but mostly me.
(47:07):
Kem whitmore? All right? Can I stay with the NBA
for a second, yes? All right? Well, so we brought
this up two days ago. Lebron James had his quote
unquote the decision is he still getting backlash a little bit?
Okay to me, the backlash would have been worse if
we would have all been sitting there waiting for him
to make this decision. Thankfully, somebody said you need to
(47:29):
put this out here a half hour before your quote
unquote decision because it's softened the blow for sure. His
decision was to drink Hennessey. Yes, a cognac if you
will yes, it is a cognac, which is also a brandy.
You're a fine girl, all right. So if you don't
know this when the decision announcement was coming, I've got
(47:51):
a decision to make. Stay tuned. People lost their mind
in Los Angeles in particular. So there was a massive
run to the Lakers quote unquote ticket office, yes to
buy tickets to the last regular season game, which in
itself is stupid if you think he's retiring. I actually
(48:16):
have a friend who's a Lakers fan who called called me.
It was like, hey, should I buy tickets to a game? Now?
The reason why I think it was stupid? I said, stupid,
it's too strong the term. I think the Lakers are
going to make the playoffs, so it really wouldn't have
unless everything falls a past regular season game. But so
you're you're taking a chance on that maybe being the
(48:36):
last time. You're just taking a chance that he's going
to be able to play in that last game. That's
true management. So the ticket prices for that last Los
Angeles game went skyrocketing up. There's a gentleman that spent
eight hundred and sixty five dollars on two tickets. Now
having done many of games at that arena at a
(48:58):
crypto dot com. Now, that's not crazy money being spent
on two NBA tickets, it's just not Now they could
be super high level upper deck seats. Now that sounds
like that would not be good value on two tickets
for eight hundred and sixty five dollars. So when the
announcement came out that he was going to be doing
the commercials for that said Cognac company, the prices have
(49:20):
dropped in value, and the online folks have said the
value those tickets are now twenty percent of what they
were when the before the announcement. Wow, so an eighty
percent reduction. Lebron James is being sued by this ticket
holder in Small Claims court for fraud and misrepresentation over
this quote unquote second decision. Okay, there was no hint
(49:45):
of retirement. Yeah, there was no hint of you have
to be there. It is an option. No one put
a gun to your head and say you must buy
these tickets. This is a gentleman, This is a a
part of society. Makes me ill. This is a guy
trying to get fifteen minutes. This will be dismissed. Rather,
(50:06):
this will be and I said, fifteen minutes lightning fast.
He's gonna have to kill the other fift forteen minutes
and forty five seconds because the fifteen seconds he's going
to get that won't be on his own clock, will
be in the courtroom when they say get out of here, GTFO,
he's gonna get to shut your butt mass up from
the judge, the Honorable Mildred Jones, Miss Jones, what do
you say, excuse me, sir, shut your bumb mass I
in my courtroom. Pay the court costs. Yes, there's no way.
(50:33):
So I just thought it was interesting that the guy
took a chance. It's like a stock. Everything everything in
sports is a stock. It's the The parallels are quite
incredible pumping dump scheme, but for Lakers tickets. Now, what
if he bought Lebron's tickets. What if he's like, I'm
(50:55):
buying these for sixty five and I'm gonna try to
turn these over for double the prophit? I mean, he
never I don't know who the person is. I don't
particularly care. And this is the last time we're gonna
bring this up. But it's interesting that we are still
trying to sue people for every little thing. And if
this gets even gets to the claims court, there should
be he should have to pay the fines that are
(51:16):
associated with the court costs, because this is an utter
embarrassment that a human being in this country would think
that Lebron James as goofy as the second decision was
and is. I don't know if ill times of the word,
but just it's just a little tone deaf on it.
But again I don't care. It's such a minor thing.
And the most important things I said before is that
he didn't surprise us when he made his second decision video.
(51:39):
We already knew what it was for him. For this
guy to think that Lebron James hoodwinked him into buying
tickets is ridiculously absurd, delusional. This, Yeah, this is not
going to hold up in any court. There's no way.
And it just shows you again, there are a lot
of dumb sports fans out there. There are a lot
(51:59):
of don't may there are a lot of dumb political fans.
There are a lot of dumb There's a lot of
dumb people. There's this rule one of the world. I
saw that and I clipped betweet and I was like, man,
what are we doing again. I'm not going to begrudge
the guy for buying the tickets because if he if
he's a Lebron guy and he's through and through and
you want to be there for the last regular season game,
(52:19):
if and then he is his last game. But dude,
this smell like a rat from the start, because as
bad as the decision the first time went, I don't
know Lebron. I've never spoken to Lebron. I think I've
asked him a question of my or two of my
life and a long half. Yeah, I hope he's not
(52:42):
wrong about that. I hope I'm not wrong about this.
But I'm going to assume he's going to go through
a lot of checks and balances to say, how do
I properly say goodbye? And my guess will be an
It'll be in a press conference stage as compared to
going to a commercial and trying to recreate one of
the things that frankly embarrassed as part of his early
part of his career. And so I it smelled bad
(53:05):
from the start, and I don't feel sorry for this guy.
And it's just again shows you how ligitous we can
be if we want to be. It's ridiculous. It's gonna
be one of the worst history and then Screamina is
all over him for crushing for doing it. I'm like,
come on, dude, are you right? Are the ESPN's are
think that desperate for us segments?
Speaker 1 (53:22):
Well?
Speaker 2 (53:22):
The next segments on the Cowboys, I imagine are the
Jets or Sanders? Should Sanders? I mean, this is rotating
the same four things.
Speaker 4 (53:29):
I mean.
Speaker 2 (53:30):
And look, there's a lot of things about Lebron that
irk me, but this wasn't gonna be one of them.
It was an ad. You'd smell like an ad from
the jump and my and Stephen's not stupid. My guess
is Stephen a is like the producer walks up and says, look,
we've got to kill fourteen minutes. Can you can you
really be upset about this to fourteen? Of course, of
course I can. I can be angry about that postures
(53:53):
from Lebron James, how could he do this to us?
It's his like I say, he's trying for another title.
And remember the only tier I've got la because is
an up bubble and I don't got the bubble. And
I wanted a battle. Oh I want to get mad
Dog mixed in with I don't know what's going on
with me. I just want to pass out long to you,
all right, I just don't get it. It's coming up
in about fifteen minutes from now, sports Are you ready?
(54:14):
What don't you get in life? A lot of things?
A lot of things, A lot of things? Seven one
three two one two five, seven ninety If you want
to join our conversation seven one three two one two
five seven AINI and again we're gonna now hopefully have
Nick de Touro's edited a response when we come back.
What a twenty on Sports Talk SEVENINI? Do we have
(54:35):
the finished product for Nick deturo? Are you sure you
listen to this like multiple times to make sure we
don't get probably fun, we have a dumb button. It's fine.
We be worried about. Are the license getting fine suspended
by the office? All right? All those things all right?
For those of you who don't know, Nick to Touro
is an actor best known probably for his role on
(54:56):
NYPD Blue for all those years. Right, Uh, he's been
a friend the show. We have not broken bread, but
we have we I think I've met him one time.
I'm not sure, but he's been on the show multiple
times over the years. Brother of John Taturo, Yeah, who
I would say is more famous, probably so for his movies. Correct, Okay,
(55:19):
but Nick is certainly if you were a fan of
the NYPD Blue series and I was, Yeah, just a
diehard Yankee fan, and he is. He's kind of the
he's kind of what you think of New York Yankee
fan is with his over auctions and York accent. In
the accent. Here's Nick the Toro after last night's loss
(55:42):
by the Yankees to the Blue Jays. Nothing left to say.
We didn't show up, we didn't get hit.
Speaker 13 (55:48):
After a great emotional win, I thought we would have
momentum and we hit.
Speaker 2 (55:53):
The bet as an offense. Judged it everything he could do.
Speaker 13 (55:56):
Cam shit, it was terrific. Kept us in a game
a era, of course, that's our Achilles heel era always
era couldn't get a big hit, had men on base
seven eight, just could not get it done. God beat
by a better team. It's just very frustrating, very sad
that every October the last eight, ten, twelve years sucks
(56:22):
ass like this.
Speaker 2 (56:26):
Very upset. First of all, we figured out what he
was saying. Second of all, excellent editing by you, except
there was one little part that was weird. What do
you mean you don't have to Yeah, you don't need
to beat you know what he actually said, schlittler just
in case, you know, I mean better safe than sorry.
I guess told me to make sure that our protect
(56:48):
the license. Schlittler, Cam, Schlittler. If you, if you, if
you don't forget the L, you're in good spot. You
forget the L, You're gonna be a little bit of trouble. Yes, hmm,
poor Nick. And it's so funny. People always will send
me a little messages on on Twitter saying, hey call Nick.
(57:09):
I'm not doing that. Yeah, it'd be like if somebody
was like sending a text sorry for your loss after
your favorite team lost a game. He already complained the
last time we got him on, he's like, hey, you
only call me when we lose. We don't even know
anybody else we have. We have Yankees Keith, who really
is a namy Yank Yankees fan. He just he's a
faux fan. He said he's been a fan since like
(57:31):
the seventies. Jameson Gardens is destinately James and yeah, and
you know, and I always appreciated Thomas. He goes calls me, going,
why what are you the governor of? Do you have
to ask bad food takes Texas? You're the governor of
bad music takes and bad food takes, bad movie takes.
(57:52):
I'm gonna be running for political office, and my uh
my stage is very simple. Professional gambling, blackjack, craps, let
and do accept kickbacks. Pie gal sports betting. I've never
sat down at a piegout table. No, that's a lie.
I've done it once. Do you even know the rules?
Speaker 14 (58:10):
I know.
Speaker 2 (58:11):
I had a friend who loves pie gal and I
was playing with him. Is that the game where you
just basically just sit there and watch the cards being played?
You have them basically you have two hands, and you
set the hands and you make a two poker hands
or something like that. Okay, and if the dealer beats
one of yours, if you split, then you split. So
most of the time you split. But if the dealer
beats both of your hands and you lose, if you
beat both their hands, you win. I think, I think.
(58:31):
Don't quote me on that, don't get me started. I
try it now. It's usually taken up. It's usually like
only one table running at least at the Rold and rugged.
See here's the thing is that And again you and
I have run by different rules. I couldn't take the
day off after you have h lost to Florida Lornos.
I wanted to, yes, but I was here. I was
(58:52):
able to take the medicine and go, Okay, you will
be here on Monday. If Oklahoma beats Texas. Yes, I
would still deciding if I'm going to Dallas. By the way,
do you see that to Oklahoma's practicing in the bubble
all week long? Oh, they're trying to hide it. John
Matier is in the bubble. Yeah, that's funny, Okay, Longhorns Apparently,
(59:13):
according to a tweet I saw, are one hundred one
and a half point favorites if John Matier is playing,
so Vegas is assuming they're playing, he's playing. If not,
they are five and a half point favorites, which is
funny because they're unranked and they're playing the number sixteen
at a neutral site. So now in college you don't
(59:34):
have to report anything. Hmm. Correct. The only people that
would probably know whether or not Materia is going to
play for Oklahoma insiders insiders. Well, somebody that's in the
practices that would say something, or the coach would then
tell the broadcasters before the game, hey, you need to
(59:54):
you know, because if I was calling the game this week,
which I think it's Chris Fouder and Kerhurstrate, I would say, Hey,
which type of here for? And if I'm Oklahoma, if
I'm bread Minables, I'm gonna prepare for both of them,
because you're gonna do that anyway. But they probably want
they probably would like a lean as to who they're
who they're going towards. But I don't read it into
either way, whether or not materials playing based off the indoor.
I mean, that's could be just a hey, we don't
(01:00:15):
want you to know, period, we don't care who it is.
I read it based off the line. Vegas can get
things wrong, no, no, not right. Yeah, but if that
line is at one and a half and it stayed
that way, that means somebody's whispering somebody to somebody that's
somebody right, got inside information. Yeah, and I'm recorded line,
you know what I mean? Low total forty three and
(01:00:36):
a half. Do I want to go honestly, oh you
minus one and a half? Now, Oh that sounds like
you sure yeah on ESPN. Bet hmmm, it's changing that quickly. Huh, yes,
because Texas has been the favorite all the way up
until I guess if you're if you're telling me accurately,
they've been favorites all week long. M hm. Let's is
(01:01:00):
really quick for we get to just don't get it
if you decide to go right now. Uh huh, Johnath,
let's help him out here. We're gon we're gona we're
gonna spend Ross's money here for oh for four minute.
Gas to Dallas is going to be around. You're going
with your brother, I'm assuming yeah, okay, so you're gonna
split that's gonna be forty dollars for each of you. Ish, yeah,
maybe a little less, maybe thirty five. I'll find a
(01:01:21):
good deal. Okay, use my roguer points. Let's just go
forty just for banking giggles. Okay. Uh, you're gonna go
to rookies. Yeah, one, that's when rookie stop in Madisonville.
One back, it's twenty five inch, it's fifty there, it's
ninety dollars. I'm not spending ninety dollars on food on snacks. No,
you're spending twenty five twenty five each way. Maybe, Okay,
(01:01:45):
I've been with you. You're twenty five. That's not true.
You're such a liar. Ninety dollars so far, you're going
to go stay at a hotel. Now I have requirements
that you don't. Yeah, I'll state I've been at the
Mesquite Motel six. Folks, easy floors. I wish people could
have there was literally dead roaches in the room. I
(01:02:06):
wish people could have seen our West Palm Beach Hotel
two years ago. That was to tell you that was
the all time war Mesquite Motel six was worse. Okay,
that's not as your ski. That's the suburb of Dallas.
I know, I know's I'm saying like that was not
a good location. Get your hotel. Do you all right, Jonathan?
You want to spend three hundred dollars to be in
town or you're a fifteen minute uber ride away and
(01:02:28):
it's like one hundred dollars. Okay, So let's go back
to this quickly. You're a ninety nine, right, You're going
to up. You're gonna go to I just literally need
somewhere to Later, you're gonna go to bed booth in. Yeah,
I'll go to bed Boof. I don't care, Okay, bed
Boof for you and the brother. That's gonna be one
hundred and ten and twenty dollars. You're gonna be at
the fair all day. You just need somewhere to literally sleep.
So you're looking for a resort hotel. So your hotel
(01:02:48):
is going to be your part of fishep. Cheap ones
are about one fifty right now, okay, so let's make
it seventy five, so your ninety plus five is one
sixty five. Okay, Okay. Your ticket, cheapest ticket's gonna be
what right now? The cheapest ticket is about two thirty
that's to get in. Decent seats are gonna run about
(01:03:09):
four to fifty. This is why I'm not going right now.
Speaker 10 (01:03:11):
And by the way, you can take the transit in
Dallas to go to the straights of the fair one
sixty five.
Speaker 2 (01:03:15):
Let's say you get a ticket for three thirty five.
To even things out, you're at five one hundred dollars. Okay, okay, Uh,
you're gonna uber to the stadium. Yeah, and you're gonna
split the You're gonna split that both directions. We'll put
that at twenty each. That's five twenty. Okay, you're you're
going to eat several Fletcher's Corny dogs. Oh no, one
one Fletcher's corny dog. Okay, but you're gonna need something else.
(01:03:37):
Oh yeah, there's all kinds of I normally find the
there's a list every year that comes out best food,
sac very best food. Sweet. I've always gonna get the
best fifty dollars in foods. That puts it at five seventy.
Oh no, more than fifty dollars. I'm talking about the
no drinks yet, beers in water. I'm saying more than
fifty dollars food, But how about eighty? It makes it
you can get sick this and that. It's like seventeen dollars.
(01:03:58):
So you haven't had a single drop of alcohol or
water yet. Probably don't know dollars I mean cutting back. Okay,
so water, you get thirty dollars in water, that's six thirty.
I'm gonna drink a water fountain. What do you mean
You're not going to water foun means no, he's talking
about you're not drinking the water fountains. Bougie. No, No,
you were a kid. You were drinking out of the
(01:04:18):
out of the waterhouse when you were a kids. Yeah,
you fine, just fine. You get a little rusty taste,
you know what, it's fine. You're not drinking the water.
That's nasty as water. Yeah, you know what. They're putting
tap water in your water bottle and then charge you
eight dollars. It's ridiculous and I will not participate in it. Jonathan,
he's buying water. You can't bring water in either. So yeah,
(01:04:41):
you don't know that. You haven't been to say fair,
have you said? I dang from up there? All right,
So I'll drop it just sneaking it in. I'll drop
it to ten dollars. You're at six hundred and ten dollars, okay,
that's without any souvenirs, that's no rides in the ride,
and you're are spending minimum money on beverages six one
(01:05:05):
and ten dollars on the cheato. Stay. You're right, I
mus stay this weekend. I think we've had we've we've
convinced you to stay. Yeah, especially in this uh this
climate seven one three two one two five seven Honey,
should ross spend six hundred and ten dollars minimum to
go see ou Texas? This weekend. That's I mean, we've
we've low balled frankly. Yeah, but it's a fun experience.
(01:05:27):
But this is okay. Well, let me tell you this.
First of all, the State Fair is wonderful. I'm sure
the Fletcher's Corny Dog is delicious. Yeah, it is the
most unique experience in college football today. It's a massive
rivalry game. It's split down the middle fifty to fifty.
It's extremely fun to go to. I also have been
five times, so this would be my sixth trip to
(01:05:48):
go and it'd be a camaraderie with with my brother. Yeah,
let's spend odo semon called let's spend Rosses money? Should
you do it? Six hundred and ten dollars minimum? Mm hmmm,
keeping in mind I make minimum seven one three two
one two five seven hoey. Also, I just don't get
it as up next, we got a like combo segment here.
(01:06:09):
Uh huh. Let us know about things in your life
you just don't get. Maybe you don't get spank six
hundred and ten dollars on oh U Texas tickets. It'll
be more than that. Yeah. Also because normally on the
Sundays we go to the sports bar for the neton games.
That's gonna run you about seventy five anyway. Now you're
looking at seven hundred now, yeah, easy, okay, help them out.
(01:06:32):
Seven one three two one two five seven hoey seven
one three two one two five seven nine zero. Do
you have something in your life.
Speaker 5 (01:06:44):
That you just don't get?
Speaker 2 (01:06:46):
No need to worry, no need to We will dissuss
the topics. Just see if we comprehend the things that
may can use our friends. It's time to stay. I
just don't get it.
Speaker 15 (01:06:59):
You know what.
Speaker 2 (01:07:00):
We're at Sports Talk seven ninety. We consider ourselves a
full service station. We try to entertain, that's our number
one thing. We try to inform and we try to
give advice. And this is the half hour per week
that we do on this show. Will We try to
give you things that you know that you're mulling around
in your life that you just don't get, and we
(01:07:21):
try to help you out. Sometimes we join you in
your uncertainty. Sometimes we kind of lay you, give you
the facts of why things happen the way that they do.
That's the reason why we call it I just don't
get it. Seven one three two one two five seven
nine zero seven one three two one two, five seventy.
There's anything in your life, whether it be sports or
(01:07:41):
nonsports reletter, you just don't get. Let us know seven
one three two one two five seven eighty, Jonathan, We're
gonna let you sco first. Anything in your life you
just don't get.
Speaker 10 (01:07:52):
I really do not get every time I go on
social media and see people defending arch Manning. And I
know I talked about this yesterday, but it doesn't make sense.
You're at a Power five Division one level for three years,
sitting back there strengths, coaching film across a quarterback that's
now in the NFL as well, and multiple teammates that
(01:08:13):
went to the NFL, and you're telling me that we
need to say he needs more time. Any Division one athlete,
and this is everybody that's been the Division one athlete.
You see those fuple players, and you're expected to produce
as soon as you get on campus.
Speaker 2 (01:08:28):
No ands based about it.
Speaker 10 (01:08:30):
I paid you this much money to come here to this,
this high end university. You need to put up the numbers.
If you can't, you're out, You're gone. You play like
this and didn't want to come out. Arch Manning himself
saying I don't know where this hype came about. I
only played a couple of games, dude, you I just
it doesn't make sense to me, Like everybody in the country.
(01:08:51):
You even had a dude from UCLA I can't say
his name, who just beat Penn State with UCLA team.
Speaker 2 (01:08:58):
So that's the excuse you want to put on. What
about him? You don't get. You don't get the excuse
makers for arch Manning, I just don't get. I'm just
fed up with it. Fed up. I didn't realize there's
such energy for the arch Maning.
Speaker 10 (01:09:13):
You're a powerful, your five star recruit.
Speaker 2 (01:09:16):
Well, here's here's my thought on this, Jonathan. There have
been so many can't miss prospects in college athletics over
my entire life watching college sports that arch won't be
the first, and he certainly won't be the last. The
difference in this particular case is is that so many
high end football minds thought this was the chosen one,
(01:09:41):
and he couldn't even the chosen one in a Sun
Belt school getting hype when he was a sophomore. I'll
give you example.
Speaker 10 (01:09:47):
I'll give you a prime example of someone that was
hyped just as much, like almost not as much but
a high end. It is Spencer Butler going to oh
you and I remember going on visiting seeing him and
he was dog water over there. Man he had a
train for had the South Carolina. Yeah, and improve himself.
And look he didn't make any excuses. We're like, oh,
I've only played a couple No, he was expected.
Speaker 2 (01:10:07):
To produce Arch Manning didn't make excuses and say, oh,
I've only played a couple of what did he say?
Speaker 10 (01:10:12):
He came out saying, I don't know where this hype from.
I've only played a couple of games. I don't know
where this number one Heisman thing to see these quotes.
I can try to find it. I'm telling you this
is this is this week. I'm not making this up.
Speaker 2 (01:10:23):
Okay, we're putting on Jonathan another chase on that. So
he doesn't get I mean, yeah, I feel I feel
like Arch is getting no, he doesn't get people giving
him a back. He's getting criticized. I think it's literally
The Athletic came out with an article saying he's synonymous
with failure. Yeah, which I thought was ridiculous, that that
(01:10:46):
was too much. That was to grab some headlines and
subscribers and I'm not defending arch Manning either. I've been
saying the same thing. He's been had three years on campus.
He is not some true freshman. He's now had seven starts.
He needs to be better. And actually he wasn't that
bad against Florida considering the pressure rate and how much
the offensive line got shredded. But he's got to be better.
(01:11:10):
He's kind of been a one read quarterback in inaccurate
Other than that, he's been great. That's a proper assessment
right there, my friend. All right, we got some other
folks that want to get theirs in. Okay. I was
gonna say I really quick. I don't get the traffic
congestion issue on Tota Center last night. Well it was
a hot mess getting out of there. Uh did you
leave Ryot for the game? Yeah? You left, you were
(01:11:33):
in the garage. Uh huh. I got pretty quick. I
went playing. I've gone two different ways home. Playing one
was a U turn on fifty nine. Oh you mean
after the garage, after the garage, okay, Well I wanted
to do and that was okay. Playing two had me
going through downtown Central Downtown to get on too fifty
nine off of Franklin and that was a hot mess.
Was there any other concert? Was there maybe a House
of Blues Common? It was just literate construction, That's all
(01:11:55):
it is.
Speaker 9 (01:11:57):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
Yeah, I didn't have any issues, but I went a
different way. We live on different spectrums of the city. Yeah,
you live close, I live far. Thanks, thanks sure, thanks
for having to say that you did, I didn't. You're right, Cameron,
What don't you get?
Speaker 16 (01:12:10):
I hate to be personal in this one, but I
don't get ross this week. Yes, you know, listening to
the cheese stick story, the cheese stick tobacco, I may say,
I just I you know, I let it slide. We
all have our crosses to bear. Sometimes we can't help,
but you know, criticize people, you know, free food. But
the second thing I just heard six hundred and ten dollars,
(01:12:33):
My god, Deshaun Watson could have the time of his lifetime.
Speaker 2 (01:12:36):
We know half of that bis and that I mean,
what are we doing here? What does that mean? It's
do you want him to go? Much money? It's too
much money?
Speaker 7 (01:12:46):
Does wait?
Speaker 16 (01:12:47):
I mean in the day, in the in the day
and age of four khdtvs, why would you spend that month?
Speaker 7 (01:12:53):
And it's crazy?
Speaker 2 (01:12:54):
I would say because you can't replicate the experience of
going to that game and the day and the pageantry
in college football and the rivalry. Yeah, I would put
And well, first of all, I'm not it's not like
them going. I've been five times. I'm on the fence
right now. Then the tickets are gonna have to go
down significantly for me to go. But I guess I
just can't explain it to you. Cameron, do you root
for college football team?
Speaker 7 (01:13:13):
I do. I'm I'm a U wage fan.
Speaker 2 (01:13:16):
Okay, Yeah, you don't understand big time football, so that's okay.
You don't know what it is not to be somewhere
where everything is on the line and there's big playoff
implications and a huge rivalry with two storied programs. You
don't understand that. So I understand you don't get it.
So when I and then you go there the State
Fair and you get the fried food and all that
type of stuff, and it's it's just a great experience.
(01:13:37):
I would recommend it to anybody who's not even a
fan of either team. So it's it's fantastic. And then
what was the first thing? You didn't get? The chief
It's not like I'm on a crusade and I'm wearing
T shirts. You your cheese sticks suck. Matt keeps bringing
it up. I don't bring it up.
Speaker 9 (01:13:55):
He was.
Speaker 2 (01:13:56):
I was asked on the air, how is the food?
And I was like, Eh, the cheese sticks work great,
and they were found of a frozen bag from Costco.
So I don't get why that's such an issue.
Speaker 16 (01:14:06):
Ross. I think a perfect TV show idea. You go
from wake to wake and break the grieving widow on
how bad the ham sandwiches are.
Speaker 2 (01:14:13):
Well, if they're bad Ham sandwiches, I won't let you
do that, we were not awake. If it was a
Super Bowl party, if she's shot, that's is that our phones?
If I'm if I'm hosting a party and I put
out bad food, let me know. Please don't be so soft.
All right, Cameron, love you, We'll see it later. Thank you,
Cameron eleven forty four, Sports Talk seven ninety So all
(01:14:36):
you're asking was for Teresa put some salt on them. Yeah,
there's still little salt. I'm seeing you shut up. You're
the worst, You're the absolute worst. All it took was like,
see this was not this is like eight years ago.
At this point Why does this continuent come up? I
(01:14:57):
don't understand why people get I still don't get it.
I don't understand why people fixate on this Ross. Sometimes
you just say nothing is the right thing to do.
That's all we're saying. Sometimes you say nothing is a
nurse country Western songs say nothing in all or something.
She was not. She was not in the back, rolling
out dough and handbreading these things. Grab the grab the
(01:15:21):
other ones. Next time. Your name the freezer at Costco.
Grab a different brand. That's it. It's not that hard,
Teresa Ross. My god, I can't even do it all right,
quick time out. We'll get me back eleven forty five.
I just still get it. Come in and help us out.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety Back
(01:15:43):
after this seven one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven ninety
What are you kiggling about over there? Nothing? Oh? Somebody
said you a funny quick shot? No, I got nothing.
Everything's cool? Am I getting ripped on by something I
didn't do any wrong? Yours? Usually you laugh when I
I'm made fun of for some reason, And that's the truth,
(01:16:05):
Know it is, John. Then back it up. You know it?
Oh my gosh, folks, did you see what I have
to deal with on a daily basis? Matt, You're never mind.
He his walls up, Rossie, he's scared. It's not about
you at all. It's so funny. Okay, it's good if
something can get you. Actually, no, just usually again, there's
(01:16:28):
just people who like to take shots at me. So
I'm just curious. We'll make sure seven one three two
one two five. Been only of the news that noon
is coming up and we've got twelve fifty, we got
the rotten five? Do you mean handle believe it or not? Today?
I'd rather not day you were going to. I did
it two days ago. Don't let me do it. It
was a four winners shape. By wait, when is the
(01:16:53):
rotten five? Twelve fifty? Okay, I could do it. You
knew both. Okay?
Speaker 15 (01:16:57):
Good?
Speaker 2 (01:16:58):
We have no believer or not tomorrow? That's right, because
I'm heading out little early to go to Oklahoma State.
So that's fine. Catch a break and this still water. Okay,
Cougar is what s fourteen and a half point favorites?
Probably I don't even know. I'm men. Look yeah, hm,
I'm na put that on a recorded line. I think,
let's take a look here. How are we doing on
(01:17:18):
the recorded line? Excuse me? Uh, let's see Houston is
uh fourteen and a half. It's a big number on
the road because even though Oklahoma State sucks, how you
feeling confident? Okay? Good James on seven ninety James, what
(01:17:39):
don't you get?
Speaker 15 (01:17:42):
I don't get why they're changing the name of the
Roughnecks back to the Gambler something. I know y'all don't
like the UFL, but I love spring football and I'm
kind of invested in Roughnecks. Now, I got to go
back to the Gamblers. I don't know why are they
doing that?
Speaker 2 (01:17:55):
Just tell some more gear. That would be my guess, right,
I think that's I mean it will. Let me tell you.
They're not selling the product as the product sucks. It
just does. It's bad football. It's bad football.
Speaker 15 (01:18:09):
I don't think it's bad football. You haven't watched it?
Speaker 2 (01:18:11):
Oh yeah, I had. That's the reason why I'm watch
it more because it was terrible.
Speaker 15 (01:18:14):
Well it was terrible, but they actually got good toward
the end of the season.
Speaker 2 (01:18:17):
I don't believe it'd be accurate. Yeah, man, you even
watched the whole season. You watch the growth. You're right,
James probably has watched more UFL than I have. But
by the tens of people that are watching it, I
think it's not very successful. And frankly, I'm surprised it's
still around. Matter of fact, I think I too, honestly.
I mean, it's got to be one more. I mean,
they're they're moving, they're moving teams from city to city,
(01:18:40):
they're rebrand We're in a bubble for a while, right, Well,
they were all the games in Alabama or something. No,
it was in Memphis and the Metamore, Memphis and Birmingham. Yeah.
So now, I mean, let's be truthful. You know what
they do. These teams all practice with each other in
Fort Worth or Dallas, then they fly to their respective
cities to do the game, to play the games, and
then only leave. There's no ties and there's no community,
(01:19:02):
there's no interaction. It's a it's a and the product sucks.
It's very yeah, there is, but it's very small. I
mean there are some there were like roughnecks fans, but
it just it wasn't. Yeah. Look, I've tried to watch it.
It's terrible football, and I I mean I can't really
(01:19:24):
explain it any other way. Yeah, it's it's like how
you feel when you watch MLS. You don't like it.
You like, I know, I know what good football is
and I don't, and I choose nothing to watch it.
Exactly correct. You said the term football. I like that
to you. Yeah, you watch you watch an MLS game,
and I mean the skill level, the passing that touches,
the shooting, it's just all horrible, and I just I
(01:19:48):
can't watch it unless i'm there. If you go to
the game and there's a little atmosphere and I had
a couple of Bruskies, it's good, but uh my sun
game experience. Middle son likes the like the rough next
couple of years ago and then he's like, Dad, I
I don't like it. It's it's hard to want liking it. Yeah,
he's like, because the football's quality of the football is
so terrible. Yeah, because think about this. You can hardly
(01:20:08):
find ten to fifteen good quarterbacks in the NFL, and
you're saying you need to find ten core good quarterbacks
for the UFL. It's hard to find thirty two good
NFL kickers. Imagine what the kicks in that exactly. Look
how many how many UFL players are on active rosters today,
seven or eight. Maybe you just have to change your expectations.
(01:20:29):
It's like you want like like watching NBA basketball and
college basketball. It's almost two different sports. You kind of
have to change your expectations to appreciate it. And the
reality is this, we don't love college basketball. We love
the jerseys they wear because they represent our school. Yeah,
that's how I always felt about college basketball. If you
it's like a fifty nine to fifty three, if you're a
true college basketball fan. You hate the timing of it,
(01:20:52):
you hate the officiating of it, you hate the bog down,
you hate the myth. Free throws are bad. There is
no fluidity. Horrible. When I call an NBA game, I
can go one and a half to two minutes with
I'll stoppage and play college basketball. When I call a game,
there's a foul, stop, free throw, shops, substitution change. It's
just slop. There's nothing close to it. Yeah. Now, high
(01:21:14):
end college basketball you're gonna find over there on colin
That's different. That's true if you're getting too high. But
even then, I mean, but putting on a Rando game
between I don't know, Boise stayed and uh, South Carolina
doesn't know an interest to me whatsoever, because I know
what it's gonna be. It's gonna be a sloppy sixty
one sixty game with a bunch of guys that aren't
very good. Gill a little taste on the over man,
(01:21:37):
it's great boys tastes out there. Yeah, what a non
conference till that is. I've seen you in the book
betting on some strange games. I have bet on. Did
you did you win on the Rainbow Warriors? I did.
I'm so mad I didn't tail on that. I forgot
by the way little because you know, I'm always I'm
a Vegas insider. Always bet the Warriors. You know, you
(01:21:58):
may not win twelve weeks in a ro Open, gonna win ten,
it feels like it. You always give you always give
up for on the road game and you take the
points at home. Sorry, presidents that you lose, all right,
Start spreading the news the Yankees are out of the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (01:22:14):
Is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross?
Speaker 2 (01:22:21):
That's one one man e Now, I don't know what
it is. Definitely two hit it, that's two your decision,
Jonathan do you know what it is? No, not at all? Okay,
too's good? All right, Matt? Can I take three guesses? Sure?
And as long as I'm telling me if I'm running
(01:22:42):
this first one? Sure, Astros are changing hitting coaches, that's correct. Yes,
well with one hitting coach. Oh, the Astros are parting
ways with hitting coach Alex Centron, sources tell the Athletics,
says Chandler Rome. More changes are expected on Houston's coaching staff.
(01:23:04):
So everyone who's complained to a Alex Santrone, your long
national nightmare is over. The offense will be number one
in baseball next year. Isn't that a good thing? Hit
for a Matt? Yes, I think I said I would
we both I think we both said yeah. Yeah. It
felt like it was trending in that direction. Dana Brown
had said publicly that they would like a change in
their approach, and we'll see what happens from here. But
(01:23:24):
Alex Sintrone, who has been here since in Houston since
two thousand and nineteen, signed a three year contract after
the twenty twenty two season contract was done. And I
don't see anything about Troy Snicker and whether or not,
but I believe his contract was up as well, So
I don't see anything about Troy Snicker in this article
(01:23:46):
from Chandler Room of the Athletic. But first on the scene,
Alex c Trone no longer the major league hitting coach
for your Houston ash. Now you have said this, and
it was wise in your part to say this. Had said, Hey,
there have been a lot of players in that clubhouse
that have that said they are team Alex Centron M.
And my retort back to you was, it doesn't really
(01:24:08):
matter that only the players endorsement only carries so much weight,
and that would be this will be yet another example
of why why players may say one thing but front offices,
coaching stabs and ownerships say other things. Yeah, and it
seemed like the writing was much more on the wall
when I mean, Dana Brown was speaking publicly talking about
(01:24:29):
issues with the team approach, and I think Joe Spotty
said the same thing too, And that's that's when it
felt like certainly there was there was going to be
a change made. Well, I'll put it this way, if
you were in a situation where you were wigging out
about whether or not the manager or the general manager
or both were going to come back It wasn't just
going to be let's bring everybody back and let's run
it back. There was no there was going to have
(01:24:50):
to be some sort of job guys. Yeah, and yeah,
hitting coaches. Man, this is awfully cliches, but it sounds
like it's they're hired to be fired. Yeah, I would say,
I mean, yeah, it happened. The Rangers fired their hitting coaches.
You had some other hitting coaches changed recently. I think
the Yankees changed. They had a new guy this year.
Maybe within the last two years. It happens. Yeah, I
(01:25:11):
would be consistent. The players have to perform at the
major league level no matter who the hitting coach is. Yeah.
The reality is, I don't expect this team to all
of a sudden be a top ferocious, top five team
offensively unless again the free agency. Look, Kevin Durant is
going to make the Rockets offense a better offense than
it was a year ago because Kevin Durant's a better player. Yes,
(01:25:32):
we expect the Dylan Brooks, but Kevin Durantz a player
player than Dylan Brooks is. I'll be interested to see
what happens. It'll be funny if if your runs back
and pain is healthy, and Estick Paratus is back and
the offense is really good, and then everybody's gon be like,
so you told you so it's all about the hitting coaches. Well, yeah,
a lot of those guys are missing time last and
guess what. Alex Indron's gonna be really mad because he's like, man,
I didn't get a full roster exactly, and it's a
(01:25:53):
tough situation for him. But the offense, of course, wasn't
up to par, certainly not with runners in scoring position
and the guys who like to be aggressive up there,
the jose Al Tuoves, the the Diaz's of the world,
and not working counts. Especially after Estoc Paradus went down,
it was a problem. Yep. Yeah, this is zero surprise.
(01:26:16):
Now do Snicker get to keep his job? Well? They
you know, I don't know how many of the thirty
teams have tandem hitting coaches. I don't know either. I
think I look, because we did hitting coach, believe it
or not, the other day, Yeah, we did. I'll have
to go. I'll have to go look it up. I
think I went to basically every Oh that's right, there
was this one page. Sweet, Yeah, most places have a
(01:26:39):
hitting coach and an assistant hitting price. I mean, I understand,
but I never got the impression that Snicker and assistance
me either.
Speaker 8 (01:26:46):
This.
Speaker 2 (01:26:46):
I think it was a Baseball reference page list Centron
as the hitting coach and Troy Snicker as the assistant.
I would say they're kind of co hitting coaches. All right,
what's like most everybody's got at least two three people named. Yeah,
I mean the roster's too big to have just one
guy focusing on that, so that doesn't surprise. All right,
So astro fans, uh, you got your wish? Yes, Now
many of you didn't even know who Alex Centron was,
(01:27:06):
so this will be kind of a little bit of
an exercise and get to know your former hitting coach.
We're not doing believe or on Alex Centron sign that's
you know. That wouldn't be very polite. No, it wouldn't.
Although we do dead people all the time. Somebody said,
I hear they're replacing him with a bunting coordinator. We
gotta move runners, guys. I feel very confident telling you
(01:27:31):
that we're not going to see a forty percent jumping
bunts next year, although you know the fans would like
Trot's been doing a fair amount of bunning in this series.
That's not gonna because but part of the reason why
is the Trot's offense not very good. The Troit's offense
for two months has been garbage. I don't know how
they put up eight runs at a day. It's stunning
because they don't. They don't. They don't have much sock
in their lineup. Yeah, was it was it? Then they
(01:27:54):
put up nine or something, and it was supposed to
be the most, the most in a playoff game for
them since like nineteen sixty eight. Oh yeah, sixty eight.
Tigers did win the World Series better way they did? Yes,
look at you. Ye called double day Thomas over here.
You better than call me Abner. What's the rest of
we got? Do we have the News at noon theme?
We're gonna go with us. The rest of this is
kind of the news at noon? It is. This is
(01:28:17):
big news. I'll be interested to see how Jose al
Tuve if I if he gets a new offensive philosophy,
start taking a bunch of pitches and again, Jose al
tu Bay, Carlos Correa, you can pick probably a handful
of other players are like man, we are team Cintron
at the major league level, it does not matter. Somebody
(01:28:37):
had to be a fall guy, and Alex sent Ron
is the first casualty of that said list, you only
had four guys. Well, let's put Cam Smith in there.
He got five four hundred ninety three plate appearances. He's
your top five plate appearances guy, al tuo Ve disappointment,
Walker disappointment, Energy is disappointment, Jeremy Payne had a career year,
and then Cam Smith overall was a disappointment. I mean
he just was I know, he wore down and all
(01:28:59):
that type of stuff. But you ps six seventy one
ohps plus eighty seven. That's a disappointment. So for of
your top five plate appearance guys were disappointments. But also
of course, Yesak Praatus was great, he was hurt. Jordan
was great, he was hurt. Carlos Kray was great and
he didn't come too late in the season. I got
one for you, all right. So if we're ready to
make changes, I don't think this will be the only one.
(01:29:19):
Are we going to get a Chandler Rooms breaking news
sounder in the next couple of days, maybe a week
or so. About the medical staff being completely over. I
would imagine that's what I kind of thought it might be. Yeah,
it says. In fact, Chandler's Stories says the Astros are
parting ways with hitting coach Alex Centron and more changes
are expected on Houston's coaching staff. Yes, I said that,
(01:29:41):
Oh I did. Okay, I was, I was listening. I
wonder I just want to repeat things. Appreciate when you
have co anchors just sometimes like the yeah, they reiterate, yeah,
emphasize if you will. All right, what else you got? Oh,
we're still doing the news in hoon. Sure. I thought
that was the news INONU elsewhere on the news at
noon Yankees lose? Actually, can we play that? Oh, here's
(01:30:04):
a Vladimir Guerrero Junior, noted Yankees hater. I mean, he
hates the Yankees. You could tell after the game, go
ahead and play this, Jonathan, if you have it.
Speaker 5 (01:30:15):
Yankee, let's go Yankees.
Speaker 2 (01:30:32):
He really enjoyed himself, isn't he. Yeah he was. That
was Vlatty Junior and of course a big puppy, ye
big pop I love him.
Speaker 15 (01:30:42):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:30:43):
That was lad Guerrero Junior who started it. He's the
first one to say it and David, is he really
upset because maybe he didn't get the money he may
have wanted from them from the Yankees, I don't think so.
He just seemed to hate the Yankees. There's like quotes
floating around and talking about him never wanting to play
for New York. He's pimping his home runs big time
that he's been hitting in the Yankees. Did you see
the one where he was scoring? I think was he
(01:31:04):
sworn from second or from third? He like full Pete Rose,
dove into home plate. He hates the Yankees. And he
actually ran backwards on one of the home runs. I
hate him do that, but I'm just saying he did cartwheels. Yeah,
he he hipped his way from third base to home
pulled out his pants like Randy Moss. Oh that is so.
(01:31:25):
It was a disgusting act by Randy Moss. I think
Joe Bucks, like, why didn't I say that? Yeah, just
a bit he might, I think from from maybe from
his vantage point, he thought he actually took the drop,
which would have been disgusting because nobody want to see
some barrass out there. No, not in Green Bay. All right,
and Rossie, we've got the rockets. Last night knocking off
the Kevin Durant is a Houston Rocket, Folks, how much
(01:31:48):
of that game did you catch? Missed his first three
buckets but then did not miss after that, seven to
ten from the field, twenty points for Kevin Durant, one
for two from three. You also had uh Men Thompson
with a great game. He had nineteen points, six assists,
seven rebounds, filling up the score sheet like we're gonna
(01:32:09):
expect him to do. By the way, Joe was asking,
is Tony Paris Chica on the hot seat? Quite frankly, honestly,
that sounds like that could be a possibility too, for sure. Yeah,
if you're keeping your job and you got a year
left to keep your job, to try to go a
new contract, and the people above you say make changes,
you're gonna make those changes. Yeah. And frankly again, missing
(01:32:34):
Tony Pettis, I mean, it wasn't like Andy Tony Pettis,
Gary Pettis. Yeah, we need some solidity at third base.
Solid are now. Of course, there are times where I'm
sure Gary Pettis there was people blowing through his stop signs,
but it felt like it happened more last year than
he did. The previous three or four right like they did.
They're like, Carlos, you ran through that sign at third base.
(01:32:55):
We have a third base coach. Yeah, Jeremy Penney is like,
what's his name? I've ever met the guy? Yeah, it
was I like saying I just like saying Paris Chicam.
That's my alias. Is year on the road for the Rockets.
Tony Pettisch, Is it cheek? And that is the news
at noon? Yeah? Any coaches are gone? All right? Okay,
offense is saved seven one three two one two five seven.
(01:33:18):
You've been wanting it, you've been asking for it. You've
been calling us, you've been bludgeting Ross over at the
oh on his Twitter account of Twitter, right now, are
you good? Y'all gonna go? Frsh sports are Maybe he
loved the hitting coaches and I was like, you know
what change got me name? Oh yeah, I said they're
the greatest ever. Come on now you get you get
your chance, come in here and go. You know what,
(01:33:42):
we were right? You were wrong, which again we never
we never argued with y'all. We just said it's not
their fault. Yeah, But and I will stay consistent. And
somebody had be the fall guy, I was taking insistant
on that as well. Uh, twelve fifteen, This is amount
Thomas Show with Ross seven one three two one two
five seven, and then we have NFL Rotten five coming
up in about thirty five minutes seven one three two
one two five seven ninety twell twenty one. On that
(01:34:07):
time the show was Ross seven one three two one
two five is seven ninety If you want to join
our conversation, Rotten five coming up in uh thirty minutes.
By the way, congratulations to WNBA star Angel Reese. She
is going to be a Victoria's Secret Runway model. Oh really,
(01:34:27):
you're right? No, I was ill prepared for that. Do
you need a moment cold towel? Lovely? There has not?
Had there been? Photos have been released? Yes, there have been.
Let's focus on the show. Oh wow, she's she's got
(01:34:50):
long legs. Yeah, that's the reason why she plays basketball.
How tall is she? I don't know, but she's Yeah,
she's deserving of such a great mountain climbing medic six
foot three. Ain't a mountain high enough, Ain't no valley
low enough. Oh look, oh, we gotta go straight to this. Well,
(01:35:13):
we got to get David in first, all right, fine
David On seven and twelve twenty two, David, good afternoon.
Speaker 4 (01:35:18):
Do you hey, how's it going. I just then, you know,
I'm leaving Big City Wings and definitely the first time there.
Definitely love the Wings gray atmosphere. But can they get
coke products instead of fifty Oh.
Speaker 2 (01:35:30):
I'll tell the bosses. I know the people there.
Speaker 4 (01:35:34):
Yeah, that's the reason why I stopped. I'm my way
to Livingston. I told my wife, I said, let's stop
in here and grab some lunch because I wanted to
try it out for the first time. That you always
talk about it.
Speaker 2 (01:35:42):
Yes, that's excellent. I'm glad to hear that. I will
I will make sure your comments are sent to the
proper people. But I'm glad you're able to enjoy the
Big City Wing treatment. That's it's a great place. And
or do you live normal? What part of time you
live in Friendswood?
Speaker 15 (01:35:56):
Yeah, I'm in friends.
Speaker 4 (01:35:57):
Wood and we're just going out to Livingston for the weekend.
And actually I actually Thomas.
Speaker 2 (01:36:01):
That you all right, all right, all right, wow, you
know what you get. You're now an official star of
the show. David, Thank you very much for calling in
for the good words.
Speaker 4 (01:36:10):
And by the way, cowboys, Yeah, it's fine.
Speaker 2 (01:36:13):
Now hang up, now, hang up, hang up with this guy.
We're done. We're done. So you distracted me with these
angel rees photos. I mean, were you prepared for that?
Speaker 9 (01:36:23):
I was not.
Speaker 2 (01:36:24):
I mean I knew she had game. Maddie all pro
all WNBA just got my vote. We hit mute on this, Yeah, Jonathan,
can we get Russell wet Nap over here? I'm doing great?
Walls clock was need? Oh wow? Okay? Can we please?
(01:36:47):
We have an hour and forty six minutes thirty seven
minutes left our show at two o'clock. Can be fine.
You do what you do want to do at two o'clock.
Excuse me, you do whatever you need to do it too.
There's locations all around. What are you talking about? You
know you're you're staring at the computer focus the show?
All right? We have Kat called him what since the
start of the show today, and it only took him
(01:37:08):
two hours and twenty four minutes to come in here, ladies,
gentleally present to you Yankees.
Speaker 17 (01:37:14):
Keith mmmmmm yeah, I actually just actually just got home
and I just now turned on the radio, so I
really don't know what you're talking about Oh.
Speaker 2 (01:37:25):
I do you know exactly what we're talking about. We're
calling you fraud, we're calling.
Speaker 17 (01:37:29):
You, well, we bit the dust last night.
Speaker 8 (01:37:34):
We didn't hit. We're gonna do some changes over the
over on the whole left side of the in It's
gonna be a whole new left side of the enfield
next year.
Speaker 17 (01:37:46):
Then we're gonna get cold back.
Speaker 8 (01:37:47):
So we're gonna be in way better position next year
than we were this year.
Speaker 2 (01:37:54):
Hell, Hell, what lets you talk? We're giving you, Yeah,
we're giving you plenty of is Aaron? You want Aaron
Boone back?
Speaker 8 (01:38:03):
My wife don't want him back, But I think he's
all right. He can't he can't hit for the Yankees.
He can't pitch for the Yankees. He can't feel it
for the Yankees. All he can do is put them
out there and in a certain positions and see if
they do what they're supposed to do, what they get paid.
Speaker 7 (01:38:21):
Highly to do.
Speaker 8 (01:38:22):
If you can't hit, you can't score. We had eight
players in our in our lineup, and you know, over
twenty our runs, I didn't see none of them show
up in the playoffs.
Speaker 7 (01:38:33):
You should be my son, Aaron Judge.
Speaker 2 (01:38:35):
You should be embarrassed. You should be humiliated. You should
You should take your Yankee cap off and put on
any one of the remaining caps. You could be you
know what you could be. You could be Blue Jay Keith.
You could be Mariner's Keiths if you wanted to Tigers Keith.
But you can't be Yankees is gone, gone, gonz Open, Mister.
Speaker 17 (01:38:52):
Thomas, Mister Thomas. I have been a Yankee fan since
I was nine years old. I'm seventy three.
Speaker 8 (01:39:00):
I think there's no more devoted Yankee fan in this
city other than myself.
Speaker 2 (01:39:05):
That's not a bragging point.
Speaker 8 (01:39:08):
They're the bragging point because we're gonna go to next
year and for the next five years, we'll be in contention.
We're gonna be either worlds in the World Series or
will be in the playoffs with your astrosby.
Speaker 2 (01:39:20):
On top of the baseball world. We're gonna be in
the thanking Keith. We're gonna be on top of the
baseball world. We're going to rise above it all. No,
I don't want this. I was gonna let the the Yankees.
Speaker 11 (01:39:36):
I got this down. You asked me what we're gonna do.
We're gonna get better pitching. We're gonna get a new
headed coach, maybe a new third base coach. We're gonna
get rid of Frober Valdez, who throws at the chest
of his catchers.
Speaker 2 (01:39:54):
We're gonna get a healthy orn Alvarez. We're gonna get
a healthy Josh Hayder. We're gonna get a healthy two
and three starters. We're gonna have Christian Walker slugging ops
in one fourteen and then we're gonna make our way
to Dyke and Part and we're gonna open up the
(01:40:14):
year with the eleven or twelve consecutive wins, then go
on the road and beat the Athletics and the Angels
like they got yours. Shush, stay with me on this,
Nick Kurts is pretty good. Then we're gonna beat the Tigers,
be anybody else here the walk the tiebreaker loss too,
and your astros. In twenty twenty six, after Matt Ross
(01:40:41):
go to West Palm Beach and stay in a decent
hotel for the second consecutive year, are gonna win one
hundred and two games and rise above it all and
put another American League pennant inside Diking Park. Then we're
gonna put our third World Series banner inside that majestic facility.
(01:41:03):
We're gonna see RDN go yard forty times, sneaky snag
Jake ops In eight seventeen East Hoc Prett is completely
healthy Hamstring I hope so. And Brian Obray, you wore
one two threes, not one, two, three, four, five six events. Hey,
he was really good all season. Come on, it's October September.
(01:41:25):
September Roark, he rallied, he rallied, and we are going
to see less of of the Caleb Board Colden Gordon,
Brian Bray, you had a two twenty eight ERA on
the season and seventy appearances up. He was great. Just
(01:41:45):
remember Yankees Keith the World Series banner, the trophy h
Town October twenty twenty six. Boocket twelve twenty nine. It's
talk seven to eighty. Alex Citron out as one to
(01:42:07):
be after hitting coaches Channel Roman Athletics alluding to there
could be some more things going on. Medical staff, I
think is a no brainer. And what's the difference between
medical as in doctors, training staff and then strengthen conditioning
staff three different things. Doctors are usually provided by the provider,
(01:42:32):
that is your corporate sponsor, yeah, okay, that's just the truth.
Training staff are usually can be sometimes employees of that
said medical group, or they can be employees of the team.
Most I'd say most times there are employees of the team,
and then strength and conditioning are going to be employees
of the team. Dietitians also are very prevalent around sports,
(01:42:54):
and teams move move away from and moved in and
out of dieticians all the time. Nutritionists, psych colleges, everything
that when it comes to the psyche, both physically and mentally,
are up for grabs every single year. Those I don't
think they work on multi year contracts. Typically, you know,
they work hand in hand. Matt, the physical and the mental?
Which one are you physical or mental? Which one? I
will have this show both? Okay, that's fine. I would
(01:43:18):
say this is more of a what's physical about this show?
Having to carry you for four hours? Mmmm? That was
that was a layup drill. That's the way you see it.
That was a layup drill. That was too easy? Come on?
Is that how you see what's happening here? No, I
didn't say that. It's just a joke. I know that
wasn't mean. It's fine. I've been saying, well, you've been
saying mean things to me for a long time. Not true.
(01:43:39):
I'm just very nice. I'm trying to think what I
actually only say about thirty percent of the mean things
that popped in my head, so the other seventy hold back. See,
I'm I'm o the way around. I usually say ninety
things when I should only say thirty. That isn't add up,
mat I only say I say ninety, but I should
only say thirty. Oh, you're not talking about percentage? Yeah, okay, Yeah,
(01:44:02):
I wish we had old twenty ten tapes of the show.
I wonder when the first time you took a real
jab at me was I Yeah, I don't know. It
had been within the first month. As I told him,
I used to not talk on air because I used
to work with Charlie Palillo. He did not let me
talk about air.
Speaker 9 (01:44:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:44:17):
And I told you I came and I would say
stuff into your ear, yeah, And you would ask me, hey,
was that on the air? Was that in my ear?
I said, I was a you say say it on air? Yeah,
and then look what you created. So whatever you are
now is my creation. God, I'm embarrassed. Mitchell on seven
ninet of you twelve thirty five, Mitchell, thank you for
(01:44:38):
holding a good afternoon.
Speaker 18 (01:44:40):
Hey, good afternoon, guys, long time listener, first time callers.
Speaker 2 (01:44:43):
Welcome Mitchell. Now we want you to be a second
or third time caller as long as this one goes. Okay,
Oh yeah, that'll go fine.
Speaker 18 (01:44:51):
Don't worry.
Speaker 7 (01:44:51):
I know the parameters.
Speaker 18 (01:44:52):
I've heard enough people say things the wrong way that
they don't get invited back.
Speaker 2 (01:44:56):
So all right, Dan, I get it. Worry.
Speaker 18 (01:44:59):
I just hopped into my truck because I'm heading the lunch.
And of course I had the pleasure of hearing that
dumbass Yankee caller call.
Speaker 2 (01:45:05):
Here a few minutes ago.
Speaker 18 (01:45:07):
Uh, and I know I got my days mixed up
triple conve Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:45:11):
He confirmed it for me.
Speaker 9 (01:45:12):
But I just want to let him know.
Speaker 8 (01:45:14):
Yankee, Chris, Yankee.
Speaker 18 (01:45:15):
John, whatever the hell your name was, shut your bum
ass up.
Speaker 2 (01:45:19):
The Yankees aren't.
Speaker 18 (01:45:19):
Gonna do anything over the next five years. When you say, oh,
where the Ashers are gonna be, We're gonna be exactly
where we've been for the last eight years, and that's
into the playoffs sort except for this year, I know.
But we've got the success to track for it. Your
team Enfranchise doesn't have any success to track for anything,
aside from your Mickey Mouse World series that you so
(01:45:40):
happen to stumble into the other year. Uh, and you
got embarrassed on national TV in a pretty bad way.
So dude, shut your bumb ass up. This is Houston Territory,
Houston Astra territory. Stay off the lines and go call
your WFA, N whatever a Yankee call there?
Speaker 2 (01:46:03):
All right, thank you, Mitchell. You're definitely welcome to call
a second time. Although he called you triple lead and
called you Jonathan, but that's fine. That's I mean, it's different.
It's really different, a lot different, not different seven on three,
two five seven, and we need look Yankees, I give
him some kudos, but he's also seventy three, so what
else they can do? The rest of theay have called
(01:46:23):
the show. Yeah, we appreciate him. I want to know
what James and garden Oaks are doing right there? Yeah,
come on, Jane, James and god Noakes, you know what
we gotta do. Let's do that. Let's play the sixty
sixth sounder here, almost like the bat signal. It's kind
of like a hey, it's it's called duty. Yes, we
play the sounder. You got to call it in because
you got play in the morning. It gets everybody's ready.
(01:46:45):
That's exactly right. Okay, it's like playing the cougar fight song.
I'm gonna make it a great day on this show.
Come on now, James, we ain't gonna bite no Oaks.
(01:47:10):
Ifby's in the garden Oaks area right now, I can
see James them to call the show. The show. That's
pretty funny. Is garden Oaks like new the Heights? Am
I making that up? I don't know. I really don't
even I'm event it up when he was first calling,
but I don't know, like, I don't even really, I
don't think I really know where garden Oaks is. It
feels like the Heights is central northwest, so that feels
(01:47:33):
like a north of the north of the west Loop,
north of the west Loop. Yeah, if I make the
movie ninety six, Oh, that's almost like that's like almost
like Jersey Village a little bit, right, that's what this
that's what garden Oaks. Huh? This was this says, I
(01:47:55):
don't know. Okay, it doesn't matter, it's fine, all right.
James Corth of the Houston heights. This okay, so it's
Wikipedia says north of the heights. Okay, very good. So
it wasn't too far off, all right. So well, let's
just this real quick. What else were we gonna? What
else were we asking? If we had a wish list
for the changes? Uh, medical staff. I think it needs
to be completely overhauled. I think it's just fair. I
(01:48:18):
I I can't imagine there was nothing that went astray.
There was nothing that went that. Everything was so coincidental.
I refuse to believe that. I mean, Jake Myers probably
wouldn't be a good person to ask.
Speaker 15 (01:48:32):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:48:32):
I'm guessing Jordon Avroz wouldn't be a necessarily a huge
advocate of the training staff. Kyle Tucker probably isn't a
huge one that I'm gonna call him. He's busy. Well,
he had a fracture the whole time. I mean, it's
not like he came back no, but I mean it
was was he was he given wrong information or was
he told this is what we're gonna tell the world
about you. I don't know. It's weird. That was a weird.
(01:48:53):
That one is a weird situation. And then now you
pile it all up though, and honestly, if if I'm
Dana Brown, I'm asking for a new training staff, I
have been I have been led out there to be
the sacrificial beat I've been beaten up over this.
Speaker 10 (01:49:10):
I asked a question, though, if they don't rush Jordan back,
then do you think this season turns around and we're
in the playoffs today in October?
Speaker 2 (01:49:18):
Well, the problem is is that, uh, he came back
and he hurt himself completely differently. I mean he could
have suffered that ankle injury the first of September. I
mean he could have that could have happened any day
in the week. It just happened. Happened the worst time
of the year. H question is was it a rushback?
Was it a misdiagnosis? Was the athlete doing them? Some
of this too? Because you know and me, I've always
(01:49:40):
said this about injuries. The athlete not necessarily go with
the responsibility, but the athlete has to be truthful and honest,
and if he's not one hundred percent or trying to
play through pain, you gotta tell somebody. And if you
don't because you want to get back on the field,
that can be just as detrimental of the organization as
a as a bad prognosis. Yeah, it just it's it's
a bad situation, and you don't know how much of
(01:50:00):
it is. Each of these cases individually it's to brush off,
but you have them all piling up, and that's that's
when it becomes an issue. I can't if we got
an auditor the National Council on Sports Medicine, what would
that way? And we paid the guy to go in
there and look at every record? Do you think how
do you think his interpretation would be of all this?
(01:50:22):
I don't know, because there's a lot of team Look
we've said this before, to be fair to the Astros,
there's been a lot of injuries all over the place. Yeah,
levels have been this hirating staff has been here for
however long since twenty fifteen, and it was an all
star training staff. Yeah, they won like Training Staff of
the Year in twenty seventeen. So so they forgot how
to be trainers or they or this is some bad
(01:50:42):
luck I don't know. Or maybe they became negligent and
complacent picked up a co cabin I don't know. I
mean I wouldn't put that on them. I'm just asked
a personal I don't know. I'm just saying, what what changed?
How do you go from training staff of the year
to your so negligent and you need to be let go?
And the pitching clock help like contribute to this that's
(01:51:04):
been talked about, Yes, especially I'm talking about no less
the pitching injuries and more the position player hit hit
injuries and the rushing in the return to player policies
which have been under question for several years since Jake
Myers first came back from his shoulder injury and James
Klick was talking about that. And you have Jake Myers
coming back from that calf injury literally doesn't even play
(01:51:24):
a game Like that's alarming. That's alarming that, Hey, this
guy's coming back from a calf injury and then he's
he's listed in the lineup, he goes to run out
to center field to where you need to be running
to play center field in Major League Baseball, especially at
dyke In Park, You're covering a lot of ground and
he doesn't even start the game. That is cause for concern,
(01:51:52):
cause for concern, calls for valuation. And I guess I
could say everything is quintidental, but I don't believe that
just don't. I can't. Yeah, I can't tell you. I
can just say it looks bad. I can definitely say
I can say it looks bad and they change people.
That's fine, I have. Here's here's the sensitive part of
(01:52:15):
it all. We're talking about people's careers here. Yes, if
you're a hitting coach, you can probably go find work
with other organizations. If you're a medical staff guy and
you've let's say you've lived in Houston all your life,
I don't know if medical staffs moved from team to
team to team that I can't speak to. But these
are people that have been Houston guys, that have worked
(01:52:36):
for the hospital or the hospital group, and they lose
your job. I mean that it's gonna be it's gonna
be tough. I don't want to be insensitive to that. Yeah,
head trainer Jeremiah Rendall's been here since twenty fifteen. What
was he before that?
Speaker 14 (01:52:48):
Is?
Speaker 2 (01:52:48):
There is there a bio point on him? I'm reading
his bio. I don't the Reds the Pirates okay for
two seasons, so maybe they seems he was Dodger's Minor
League Green have coordinator in twenty ten, major league physical
therapist for the twenty eleven season. Also, it's been with
the Seahawks and Patriots. Okay, so they move around with
(01:53:10):
a bunch of coaches. Do no, that's all. I feel
sorry for him. But he has a doctor of physical therapy,
damn from the University of Miami's qualified. Yeah, So I'm saying, like,
dude forgot how to be a trainer. Did something change?
Did he lose focus? Or I mean, I don't know.
(01:53:31):
It's up for Jim cranea figured it out and Dano.
And again, if you're Dana, don't you want to like
move get a fresh star here with a group, because
I would think they would, he said, to answer so
many and again I would say, comfortable questions seven one, three, two, one, two, five, seven,
ninety seas. That's one. What's happening here?
Speaker 6 (01:53:56):
You know what?
Speaker 2 (01:53:57):
Let's do one more? Eight minutes ago. In addition to
Alex Cintron, the Astros are also letting go Troy Snickker
major league coach Michael Collins, who worked closely with the
(01:54:19):
catchers catcher's coach. I got you, guys, framing sick. I
gotta be brially honest. I didn't know the Astros that
a catcher's coach. I mean, I kind of know the Astros.
I didn't know if Michael Collins would have walked in
here and he said, I'm the catcher's coach. Of the
Astros are like, okay, what do you really do? So
they're cleaning house on the hitting side of things, and
(01:54:40):
Michael Collins is out as a catcher's coach. I thought
he was great as the drummer for Genesis. You know
what's funny? And you and I have argued about this before.
I don't know that, and I probably should. But some
of the great bands in America, I don't know who
the who their bass player is and stuff and drummer. Wait,
it wasn't Phil Allen's the Genesis drummer. Yeah, that's why
(01:55:02):
I said, Okay, oh he really wasn't Michael Collins or
jennisil Collins. You fraud? Ah am I the fraud. You
hear one sail over your head? You had it mean
going for a minute? Uh you like a Tom Collins?
All right? Oh? I do. Doug Collins great analyst, Melanie
fantastic silent reporter. What's so fantastic about her? Matt Insights
(01:55:27):
analysis and hard information, hard hitting questions. Definitely hard hitting,
all right, and put a leash on you. All right,
let's take a look here. What Oh Michael Brian McTaggart's
Twitter account gator Astro's trump Astro's Trump guy. What and
it's got two p's at the end, says I'll hire
(01:55:49):
Michael Brantley today. Another breaking news sounder? How many? Probably too,
go ahead on more. Let's do it again. We had
what two four six breaking newsouders in one ship. Probably
guess train staff? Oh uh, Paris Chica? No training staff.
(01:56:12):
Jeremiah randall out just brought it. Oh my god, there's
the big one. Where's the big Wow? They are cleaning house?
Who keep in that sounder? Keep in there? You can
get any more? Yeah, so head trainer gone, Troy Nicker
and Alex Sintron gone. Catching coach Michael Collins one more time,
(01:56:37):
hold on Tony Tony parishka Nope, Astro's assistant GM Andrew
Ball is not being retained. Really, I don't know who
that is. I don't know what does he do? Is
he okay? I don't know. I think he's in time.
I think he's in charge of team snacks man.
Speaker 10 (01:56:53):
There, get the brooms out. Everybody that's looking at this
four seven and ninety pages. Look, wow, we didn't notice
gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (01:57:00):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right. You did a
good you did a good job. Wow. All right, so
let's recap. Centron out, snicker out, Michael Collins, Hello, you're out.
Believe it. Andrew Ball the general manager out, Assistant general
manager assisant, general manager and athletic trainer Jeremiah Randall. You know,
(01:57:26):
you know what, Jim crandad he walked in and said,
what the hell has happened around here? Crazy? Jeremiah Randall
never made himself available to the media one time. Now,
that was I don't know if that was Jeremiah's decision
or that was the astro's decision. My guess it was
(01:57:47):
more team than individual. But my guess is Jeremiah was
probably happy he didn't have to answer questions about all
the number of players that were hurt. I never met
the guy. I don't know. I mean, I've seen him obviously,
but don't know him at all. Well, he go, Okay,
so Parishika is still here for now that he could
be gone. The two pitching coaches are still here. Yes,
(01:58:10):
Jabier Brocamante is still here. Hey, it is for life.
Let me tell you something. I love the Brocamante family.
They better not Hobbier get to keep.
Speaker 15 (01:58:17):
His job.
Speaker 2 (01:58:20):
Anybody else first, who's the first base coach? Uh is
a Venezuelan team omarz he's still here. Mmm? Okay, astro fans,
this is your opportunity. We got an hour left to
go on the show. Oh we didn't do right. Oh
we're late for Rotten five. We'll do Rotten five one twenty.
How about that? That's great? You okay with that?
Speaker 9 (01:58:41):
Sure?
Speaker 2 (01:58:41):
Why not believe?
Speaker 7 (01:58:41):
What not?
Speaker 2 (01:58:42):
Today?
Speaker 9 (01:58:42):
Is?
Speaker 15 (01:58:44):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:58:45):
All these people they got fired. I can't wait to
hear this. I'm just kidding seven one, three five, seven nineties.
Pull that off. I'm really impressed. That gonna be your
best work ever. Actually we could, but we want to
honor them. They got fired. No, it's not good. They're
they're probably gonna put four sale signs up in that. No,
you don't want any part. It might be another person
(01:59:06):
get found. How about Eric Spultr. He was just named
Team USA head coach. There it is. Team USA has
a new basketball coach for the next Olympics. It'll be
Eric spolster of the Miami Heat. That's today's edition of
Believe It or Not Rotten five at one twenty. Your
phone calls next, come on AST for fans. We know
you're out there. The organization is cleaning house, new hitting coaches,
a new trainer. I never thought I would be in
(01:59:29):
the business. Hey, Briody, let's call him. But your what what?
Your new trainer? Moment is seven one three two one
two five Savanati Matt Thomas show with Ross. Still don't
(02:00:00):
know what I was waiting for him.
Speaker 17 (02:00:02):
I'm not.
Speaker 15 (02:00:05):
Well.
Speaker 2 (02:00:05):
Gotta be honest, but I don't like David Bowie.
Speaker 5 (02:00:10):
God it married.
Speaker 1 (02:00:11):
It seemed the taste.
Speaker 2 (02:00:13):
This song kind of fits. But so I turned myself.
Tell me tell me I'm wrong. I mean, tell me
if I'm wrong, I'm wrong, I can do I can
accept it. Some people love David Bowie. Yeah, I don't
want David Bowie. Trusers coming after me, David. Both truths
are going to come after you. Some great hits changes
(02:00:39):
one of the.
Speaker 14 (02:00:46):
This is a hit.
Speaker 2 (02:00:47):
I didn't say this wasn't a hit, but I mean
fames a jam. Let me see what else. Yeah, I'm
gonna stay with it. I don't like him. We can't
like everything right, you have bad music opinions. Particularly, some
of my favorite people are the most successful recording artists
in the history of music. I like Billy Joel, I
like Barry Manilo, I like the Beatles, I like Elton John.
(02:01:09):
They're all major, major stars. Dane was a number one
hit nineteen seventy five. You heard the song changes before
by way, Jonathan, What do you think?
Speaker 13 (02:01:18):
No?
Speaker 2 (02:01:18):
I like you. I just I just remembered it from Shrek.
I actually didn't know from under Pressure Let's dance. Oh okay, okay,
China Girl Modern Love. Under Pressure's not bad? Uh? What
was the Blue Jean and Dancing in the Street with
Mick Jagger, which is a cover?
Speaker 15 (02:01:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:01:35):
Yeah, yeah. Oh you know what, I'll say this overrated? Oh? Overrated?
Not I'm gonna say not overrated. I'm gonna say overrated.
All right. What's not overrated is the Astros changes. That's
the reason why we played the song final line with
the Matt Tommy Show with Ross. If you want to
chime in seven one three, I want to hear from
(02:01:56):
a David Bowie truther. Don't why why some people just
really love David Bowie. I don't know. I don't know.
By the way, we are up six nothing on the
breaking new sounders on today's show over the A Team. Yeah,
that's a that's a huge way. You're always whine and complaining. Yeah,
but these are these were decent ones. I'm looking for,
(02:02:17):
like a mega. Okay, I think Kevin was Kevin Durant
on our clock? Or was that on the gay team's clock?
Do you know who played the uh? What Kevin Durant?
When did that happen? That was? Was that a weekend?
Haven't we played something? We just kept playing the sounder
for like endless amounts of time. We just kept playing
it over and over again. Probably one of the Verlanders.
(02:02:39):
I think one of the Verlander ones came. Okay, all right,
the second time he came, he all made it five,
and I wanted, I argued that it was four, but
either wa Okay. By the way, Omar Lopez is the
bench coach, yes, he was the coach coach, was the
first base coach. He moved to the bench coach, and
of course Dave Clark is the first base coach, and
we messed it up. But somebody corrected us on Twitter. Thanksfully, yes,
thank god, and they were respectful of it. Yeah, he
(02:03:00):
dropped the hun on us like we're idiots. But that's okay,
that's fine. Nobody else, nobody makes mistakescept us. We can
live with that. Everybody else is perfect. Seven one three, two,
one two five seven out of If you want to
chime in seven one three two five, you know, it's fine.
We're in twenty hours a week. We're still bat in
nine hundred ish Ain's seventy five. So both hitting coaches gone.
(02:03:26):
The catching coach which you didn't realize they had a
catching coach, is gone. Yes, medical trainer Jeremiah Randall gone.
Gonzo Para Cheek is still here as far as we know,
Lopez still here, Yes, Clark's still here. Pitching coaches are
still here. Yes. Now, this stuff can trickle, so there
could be some more coming. Mm hmm, it's uh, it's
(02:03:49):
at a full pore right now. Well, uh, I will
say this, there is a thought that if there were
some things that were going on in the organization that ross,
it won't be too long until some of the stuff
comes out. Just keep that in the back of your mind.
What do you mean that sometimes teams that let players
(02:04:13):
go are a little more loose lid with the media
about maybe some of the dealings of last season. They
talked bad about a place you were at once you've
been let go, And as long as you keep it
anonymous and say you didn't hear this from me anonymous sources,
now you can probably the team can probably assume that
that where those sources are coming from. But that comes
with the territory. Now, if you want to batmouth the
(02:04:33):
team you just worked for for several years or a
couple of years, whatever, you're probably gonna hurt your chance
of becoming the same position with another teams. So you
just got to be careful. I mean, even we've all
been let go before on things in our life and
you have to just I think you have to walk
a tightrope on this. That's true, especially if you're looking
to find a work In twenty twenty six, I was
slander and clear channel when they laid me off, and
(02:04:55):
look what happened. You're back where we are now. I
can't crawl them back. Yes you did. They We welcome
you back open arms, especially at your salary level seven
one three two one two five seven out he seven
one three two two five seven and Kenny get is
with us so the Matt Thomas Show of Ross Kenny
Good afternoon.
Speaker 7 (02:05:10):
Hey fellas. Hi you guys, doing great job as usual.
Speaker 2 (02:05:13):
Thank you.
Speaker 7 (02:05:14):
Hey listen. Uh, I kind of gave you up on
the Astros there. You know, I've been I've been following
since very beginning, like sixty two and that. You know,
I've never seen such an inability score runs there at
the end of the season, and it just, you know,
it got so bad, I just go I kind of
gave up on him, you know. But Uh, the other
(02:05:35):
thing I wanted to ask you all about is one
player I thought showed some pretty good promise and all
of a sudden he wouldn't play anymore, and you never
heard what was the matter with him? Is Zach Descenzo?
What the heck happened with him?
Speaker 2 (02:05:47):
He got hurt and we didn't hear word well from
him after that, I.
Speaker 7 (02:05:51):
Know, And what what what did he hurt?
Speaker 9 (02:05:55):
Hey?
Speaker 2 (02:05:56):
It was a hand injury. He had a hand injury,
and I think towards the end of the season and
he was on a rehab assignment and then I don't
recall what happened if he went back, did he get
called up for the last week. I think he got
called up for the last series of the season.
Speaker 7 (02:06:10):
Oh I think, okay, yeah, Well, I'll tell you it's
gonna be interesting to see what changes they made. It
seems like after I'm not sure if I'm pronouncing right,
parade just went down. It just it really went bad.
Speaker 2 (02:06:22):
Yeah, because he was having a really good season he
was in is credible by the way I've seen. Thank
you for this phone call, Kenny, and for the nice words.
Channel Rome was doing an article today in The Athletic
as a matter of fact, before all this went down,
talking about est pretty Is maybe going to second base,
and he basically says in the article, there's very few
people in the organization, much less in baseball Estcat Prattis
can play second base. Yeah, what, you already have a
(02:06:45):
negative second basement in Hillsale to Why do you want
to add to the Miss's what I'm saying, Like, I
can't get worse, There's no way. There's no way Danny
can come out in the spring training and go, hey,
we're gonna go with this est socket second. Why, well,
it can't get worse, can't get worse, Well, you gotta
figure out something else. What are you gonna figure out
then it's gonna be done. It's gonna be figured out.
Somebody's gotta move. Yeah, who wants Christian Walker after that season?
(02:07:07):
I mean he hit twenty seven home runs? What's the
Arizona what's Arizona Diamondbacks first base situation? I don't know.
I'm not a huge follower of that organization right now. No,
I just feel like it's going to be solved. It's
got to be. Somebody's gotta be moved. How about this,
how about you go get a starting pitcher and you
move somebody in that infield for that starting pictre because
(02:07:29):
remember Danna said, right at the end of the year
and the end of season press commence, He's like, hey,
we're gonna make a trade for a picture like trade. Yeah,
but the obvious trade candidate is Christian Walker, and you're
gonna just have to send money with that probably return.
What is the I guess the question would be how
much is an average first basement making baseball? I would
say probably, I mean, I have no idea. Yeah, it
is twenty million dollars a year. He's making twenty and
(02:07:49):
it's probably a round well if you count it depends
are you talking about free Asian guys. Arbitration. Guys, if
you're sending him to the Royals twenty million dollars for
first basement, it's not great money, he said them to
the Mets. You're not worried about twenty money, might be
losing Pilonzo, So yeah, there could be a need there.
All right, let's go to Uh, Tim and Katy at
One Town on the Matt Thomas Show had lost Tim.
Good afternoon to.
Speaker 14 (02:08:10):
You, afternoon, guys. How are you today?
Speaker 2 (02:08:13):
We're terrific good.
Speaker 9 (02:08:16):
Two things.
Speaker 14 (02:08:17):
First off, the Astros, Yeah, I don't really care what
too much say, but juries is what caused this season
to go kabluie. I went into something one of the
things you guys probably look at. It had sixteen players
(02:08:37):
on the injured reserve, and it showed the amount of
dollars that was spent. I want to say, ours was
like fifty four million. You go over to Detroit and
Detroit had a lot of injuries also, but instead of
fifty four million, there's were about twenty three, which means
(02:09:00):
it was a lot of people that were not quote
unquote all stars.
Speaker 9 (02:09:05):
Uh.
Speaker 14 (02:09:06):
They led the division for a long time and finally
it just all cut up to him, with a whole
bunch of other people going out hater. Uh, he went
out the last month. It just all cut up to him.
I think if they would have had even half of
those people back, they could have done a lot better.
Speaker 15 (02:09:28):
Uh.
Speaker 14 (02:09:28):
And I am the big David Bowie fan you were asking.
Speaker 2 (02:09:34):
There you go, somebody, don't get me a matured opinion.
That's it.
Speaker 15 (02:09:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 14 (02:09:40):
What what I can tell you is that if I
ever wanted to have been a bisexual man, it would
have been with him.
Speaker 2 (02:09:49):
What well, yousexual.
Speaker 14 (02:10:00):
I will say that, Matt, I met you out at
the place out on Logan Baum a couple a week
ago whenever, and I wouldn't beat by with you.
Speaker 2 (02:10:16):
I will take that as a compliment. That's fine. Tim
does not want to have sex with me. I'm very
comfortable with that. That's unfortunate for Tim or for me both.
Maybe I don't know. I mean I give Tim credit
for going on a major market radio show and saying
that he'd like to have bisexual relations with a dead guy.
(02:10:38):
I mean, well, I don't think he wants to do
it with his corpse. I would certainly hope not. Maybe
Tim's had a couple of pops. You don't know what
he's doing these days. Uh yeah, David Bowie, he was
into the whole introgenist thing right. Yeah. Now, I will
say the greatest David Bowie song is when he and
Bing Crosby did Uh boy, I don't know why you're
(02:11:01):
fixated on that horrible. It's not horrible, it's just I
don't know. Yeah, go ahead, what is it?
Speaker 9 (02:11:05):
You know?
Speaker 2 (02:11:06):
If you do? I think you do, because we did.
We did Christmas songs, Fantasy five, many moons ago. I
believe I want he usually went, I know, would you
ever call radio show and a mint? I mean again,
nothing wrong with being by Yeah, i'd say, hey, you know,
teach his own Yeah, tim like some some David Bowie.
(02:11:27):
Let me ask you, Johns, being open and honest, would
you if you were to have a bio for somebody
you were doing Fantasy five? Hottest dudes he's got, David
bow I'm gonna be on vacation. Why you can admit
a man's handsome, Yes, I can Brad Pitt handsome man.
Uh yeah, I mean he's ugly, yeah, but I'm not attracted.
(02:11:52):
I think he's when you say traction, when you say bye,
he was attracted to him. Yeah, I get it, Tim's
attracted David Bo. I'm not attracted to any man. I
can say, man, it's good looking, but I'm not attracted
to them exactly. You can say something as pretty or beautiful.
That doesn't mean you want to have sex with it.
Lauren Shahani, it's beautiful an attractive. And the Rotten five
(02:12:15):
is next on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 8 (02:12:19):
They've gone there.
Speaker 1 (02:12:23):
They draw flies, wits, Ross's Rotting five.
Speaker 2 (02:12:29):
This don't smell quite right. All right, we'll get back
on the astro stuff. And again, if you're just joining us,
lots of wholesale changes in the coaching staff will recamp
all of them for you here in a little bit.
But we were going to do this a half an
hour ago. But the breaking news sometimes takes.
Speaker 9 (02:12:46):
Over, and.
Speaker 2 (02:12:48):
But the hard work flow with the show. Yeah, we
don't stand pat We don't cuss and discuss things just
because it says it's on our timing sheet. Yes, everybody
has their prip sheets. Yes, we'd prepped for ourselves. We
know what the show needs to do. Yeah, what he said,
we want to go off the beaten track, Go off
the beaten track. We will give you the Rotten five,
(02:13:09):
the five worst teams in the NFL. I'm gonna do
it right now here. Well Sports Talk seven. All Right,
some big shakeups on the list this week. But we
started off with the New Orleans Saints. They did win
a game, so they move up the list. Congratulations to you,
New Orleans. Yeah, sure it was Jackson Dart and the
New York Giants, but at least you won the game.
(02:13:30):
You also played the Bills close the week before. Spinler Rattlers.
Spencer Rattler, if you look at a lot of the
analytics and things like that, actually has not been that
bad of a quarterback for the New Orleans Saints. He
had two hundred and twenty five yards and a touchdown
over the weekend. Things that are looking well, not so great.
Is there gonna be three and a half point home
(02:13:52):
dogs to the New England Patriots. But on the season
Rattler with six touchdowns just one pick. Maybe the Saints
can rack up a victory at home versus the Patriots.
Are also going to go at the Bears in the
following week. Right now, fifth worst team in the NFL,
believe us, Yeah, I sick the head up though, crawl
fish down. Oh, thank you very much. Okay, New York
(02:14:12):
Giants played tonight against the Philadelphia Eagles. Will get to
that in a second, but come on, man, you lost
by double digits after starting up eleven and nothing in
that game, and you lost to the freaking New Orleans Saints.
Jackson dart second start not looking great through a couple
of picks. Campskataboo has been getting a lot of touches,
but hasn't been getting a whole lot of production as
(02:14:33):
far as the yards and the touchdowns. And of course
we know Malik Neighbors is down with that injury. As
I mentioned, you got the Eagles tonight, then they will
be at the Broncos the next week, and then at
the Eagles the week after That. Sounds like three losses
in a row for Brian Dable and the New York Giants.
So right now, Giants fourth worst team in the NFL.
(02:14:53):
Oh no, it's bad, It's real bad, all right. We
shot the Miami doll Dolphins up last week because they
finally got a victory, but we got to bring them
all the way back down to number three this week.
I mean, you get up seventeen to nothing on the
Carolina Panthers and Bryce Young and the Boys, and you
(02:15:14):
cannot get the victory. You're one in four on the season.
You're one wins against the Jets, who are going to
be later on this list. It just has not been
pretty for the Miami Dolphins. Somehow, only three and a
half point dogs against the Chargers this week. But they
are not good. But they have some winnable games coming
up after that on the road against the Browns and
the Falcons. The Miami Dolphins right now the number three
(02:15:35):
worst team in the NFL. All right, we had to
take the Tennessee Titans out of the bottom spot because
they got a victory and the team that's left in
the bottom does not have a victory. But that is
one of the most ugly, gifted, nasty wins in NFL
history that the Tennessee Titans got last week. You had
(02:15:56):
the Amari de Mercado fumble. Then you had an interception
thrown by cam Ward somehow fumbled into the end zone
and recovered by the Tennessee Titans. Technically, they did get
to win. They are twenty they got the twenty two
to twenty one victory. They're one in four on the season.
But that was not a good game by the Titans.
They are the number two worst team in the NFL.
(02:16:19):
I mean, we're keeping a book right now, we as yes,
you are, cam Ward all right, only one zero to
five team on the season. That means you're at the
bottom of the rotten five. I talk about the New
York Football Jets. It hurts me. Nimmits graduate Aaron Glenn
already on the hot seat. What shout out to something
unsuccessful out of alding mimics. Hey, you're making an NFL coach.
(02:16:42):
Even if you get fired about midway through your first season,
that's still a nice feather in the cap for Nimmitz
legend Aaron Glenn. But they were horrible against Cowboys. Final
score of thirty seven to twenty two does not even
tell the story. They do take on the Broncos, probably
gonna be another l after that. They had the Panthers
and the Joe F. Lacko led bingals in the Browns,
So maybe there's a win mixed in right there. But
(02:17:03):
right now, oh, in five New York jitch prolitans, you
are terrible. You're the worst team in the NFL.
Speaker 16 (02:17:09):
They can't stop and.
Speaker 2 (02:17:11):
That'll be on the eight thirty am game on Sunday, London, Lundy, Lundy, London,
eight thirty am. Broncos Jets man, how are you feeling
you're rooting for the Jets honestly? Because Denver is an
eight again, I'm standing. I forgot your standings, guy, Yeah,
five week six, Yeah, okay, Look, when I'm in December,
(02:17:32):
when these things matter, you're gonna be like Matt. I
should have jumped on the the the watch train with you.
So there you go. That great job is always very happy.
I know a little bit later. Usually it's a twelve
fifty stable, but wanted to put it there. So and
there's your rut in five. Thank you very much. Uh.
A friend of the show, Adam Spowling, Yes, uh put
(02:17:54):
a very interesting little anecdotal thing about all the changes today.
And you know what we'll give them when we mentioned
his name, Biden name, so we'll give her a credit.
Nice guy, nice enough guy, Yeah, seven one three two
one two five seven ninety. If you want to join
us again, we will we come back. Let's go ahead
and recap every one of the decisions, and then I
will give at him his shine on what he thought
was interesting about the things he saw today with all
(02:18:16):
the astro changes. I will say when I tell you
what he says, I don't necessarily connect the dots on it.
But it is ironic, don't you think. Yeah? Now the
question is did has Dana been licking his chops to
make these decisions or has Jim Crane said, we've got
to give the optics out there of making moves to
(02:18:37):
make them. Yeah, you can't have this season and run
it back fully. There's just no way. I mean, can't
you can? Right? I Mean that's what I always wonder
about fan pressure because a lot of the I would say,
if you ask to a man, everybody in that locker
room if the if Chroic Nicker and Alex Centron were
failing the team, they probably would have said no. But
(02:19:00):
it would have been very hard for Dana to go
in the room say, hey, what y'all think about your
hitting coaches? And my guess is there Carlos Korea and
Josel Tuby and you're on Albarez and Jake Myers and
anybody else said it's on us, but you can't. You know,
it's again, it's the it's the age old thing in sports.
You can't you need a new voice now? If somebody
(02:19:23):
is saying, if one or two guys are saying, I
want to those guys of the last couple of years
and they told me what to do and my average
drop twenty points or I lost some of my slug
Christian Walker's like, these guys are horrible. You see how
good I was as a diamondback. Look good I've done here.
A change will do you good? Yeah? We's who's that?
Whose things?
Speaker 13 (02:19:40):
That?
Speaker 2 (02:19:40):
A change? A change? Do you think it's gonna come?
Speaker 9 (02:19:43):
No?
Speaker 2 (02:19:44):
That would be the one and only Sam Cook great song. Yes,
died at a very early age. We were talking about
that with my son Metal the other day. Yeah, in
a mix up at a motel, got shot, yes, by
the employee, right, one of the employees. Apparently he got
robbed by I think the story is he got he
was with a woman. Whether it was a hooker or not,
who knows. He was with a woman and they the
(02:20:05):
woman ran off with all of his stuff and then
he came in like bust in naked at the at
the front desk, and the woman got scared and thought
she was being attacked, and then self defense fired upon
him and killed him terrible story. Yeah, I know you're
trying to get some at the motel. Next thing you know,
you're getting blasted on. It's not good. I don't know
(02:20:26):
how I'm going to segue into that, but we will
do that right now, one twenty seven in the Old
Time Greats one twenty seven on Sports Talk seven ninety
we'll recap some of the astro's decisions coming up in
just a couple of minutes. Right now, let's spend a
few minutes with our good friend, the head football coach
of the University of Houston Cougars, Willie Fritz, And he
was brought to you by the Giant Chiropractic, the official
(02:20:48):
chiropractor of the University of Houston athletic department. Willie is
with us here getting ready for to Saturday's game with
Oklahoma State. Willie, thank you for the time. It is
always take us through Connor's situation when you need to
pull him. And where we stand right now getting ready
for this game against the Cowboys.
Speaker 9 (02:21:05):
Well, he's in great shape. You know, we put him.
Anytime there's anything that you worry about with the guy
with the concussion or whatever, you immediately put him into
you know, what we call concussion protocol, and he was
doing good on Sunday, and then he's continued to progress
and been fine all the way through and you know,
(02:21:26):
practice today and we feel great about him playing on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (02:21:33):
Obviously you have Xeon's ion as his backup and has
been able to play some at the collegiate level. How
much does the playbook change? How much does the game
plan change when you make a change in the middle
of the game like.
Speaker 9 (02:21:44):
That, Oh, it does a little bit, you know. You know,
you have a full compliment of plays that you run.
You know, your playbook, and now you want the quarterbacks
to learn all of it. You know, there's definitely some
parts that the one guy might do better than another guy.
And uh, you know, so there are a few changes.
(02:22:06):
You know, probably a little bit more run game with Xeon,
but you know Connor runs the ball very well. Also, Uh,
what what.
Speaker 2 (02:22:14):
Did you think over all of his performance? I know
it's always difficult to be the backup quarterback as you're
only one play away, but uh, for a guy like
that to have some experience as a nice fallback in
case Connor can't go for you or can't be at
one hundred percent.
Speaker 9 (02:22:27):
Yeah, you know, he came in and we gave us
a spark. You know, he had a couple of really
good runs and and uh I ended up catching, you know,
getting a touchdown with you know, a nice throw to
Mark Thomas, and unfortunately we just you know, we needed
to play really well. We need that goal into the game.
I don't think we played as well as we're capable of.
Uh I do a better job of getting everybody prepared,
(02:22:51):
coaches and players, and we got Golhead next to you
on game day, but uh you know, the hats off
to you know. Then they played it extremely well and
very talented team and and you know, just we we
just got to do a better job of executing and
you know, and call the right things of offense, defense,
kicking game.
Speaker 2 (02:23:10):
I knew you were so yeah, I knew you were
so impressed and proud of your guys in the low
turnover count and unfortunately rude ex uckily had this past week.
When you look at the game film on that, were
there some things that tech Tech was doing or was
it just a self destruction a little bit on your side?
Speaker 7 (02:23:27):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (02:23:27):
Both they do a good job of getting after the footballs,
not like we do and targeting it when someone's running.
You know, any time you overtake Dallas Page trying to
get the ball out, you're in his blind spot and
to down. On occasion, we had a foolish interception that
we threw that we didn't need to throw. That was
an easy one form. But you're right, when you play
(02:23:49):
a quality team, you play anybody. You know over your
plus one plus two plus three got a great chance
of winning the ball game. And fortunately we're minus two
and when that happens, you don't win very many games.
Speaker 2 (02:24:00):
I thought Willie. The most encouraging part during that stretch
unfortunately that the squad was turned the ball over was
you were holding Texas Tech to field goals and that
had to be a positive sign that your defense, you know,
try to keep in the game as long as you could.
Speaker 9 (02:24:12):
Yeah, they did. They did a good job early in
the ball game. We talk all the time about four
point plays, both offensively and defensively, when you you know,
hold the offense to a field goal to allow me
to get it, you know, a touchdown seven points. You
know the same thing on offense, you know, when you
get an opportunity to get a touchdown, and we didn't
you know, we had to take a field goal that
(02:24:33):
after we had that long completion to Kobe Young. So
you want four point plays there too, touchdown instead of
field goal. So you know that's a big That's one
of the bigger points in one in football games is
scoring touchdowns over field goals. And we got to do
a better job of that.
Speaker 2 (02:24:51):
Well, you're going to Oklahoma State this week. They've been
a coaching change. If I was to look at their
last week's game film as compared to when coach Gunny
was running things early in the year, would I see
a dramatic difference.
Speaker 9 (02:25:03):
No, not too much. And we got the same offensive coordinator.
Matter of fact, he was here as the offensive coordinator
one year back at twenty thirteen met yep. And you know,
so not not a dramatic difference in what they were
doing prior to you know, coach getting LetGo and what
(02:25:27):
they're doing now.
Speaker 2 (02:25:30):
And for your guys, you don't you haven't had to
have this experience this year because it was your first loss.
But to gather the troops, what was practiced like this week?
What was the mental focus? Did you notice anything different?
You try to not reinvent the wheel after a tough
loss at home, or do you need to give the
urgency of Hey, if we want to do some things
and get back to a bowl and be competitive in
(02:25:50):
this Big twelve, we need to shake things up a
little bit.
Speaker 18 (02:25:54):
No.
Speaker 1 (02:25:54):
You know.
Speaker 9 (02:25:54):
The one thing we did do is we always take
off Sunday, and then Monday we came data week. We
watched every single tape, the offense, watched every single play
together and just kind of see, you know, probably five
or six times I heard the coaches, hey, I won
a good call on my behalf. I sat in there
with them and told them a few things I could
have done better. But we also had the guys look
(02:26:16):
and see what things they could have done better. We
did the same thing with defense, did the same thing
with kicking game. Then we usually run through the tape
pretty quick when we move on to the next opponent,
but spend a little bit more time on it just
to you know, not you know, repeat the same mistakes
that we did in.
Speaker 16 (02:26:33):
That ball game.
Speaker 9 (02:26:34):
So I thought it was really good on Monday, and
I think we've had a excellent week of practice.
Speaker 2 (02:26:39):
We'll leave it at that, coach, We'll see you at
the plane tomorrow. Congratulations on a good season so far,
looking forward to getting up there and getting that victory
against Oklahoma State, and we'll look forward to that game
on Saturday. And still Water, thanks for the time. As always,
I thank you, go you got to thank you. Willie
Fritz joining us here the head coach of your Houston
Coocker's brought to you by again the Joint Chiropractice, the
official chiropractor of University of Houston Athletics. Eleven o'clock to
(02:27:00):
start time on TNT. Not a place you would normally
think for college football, but they're starting to carry some
games now and we'll look forward to having that for
you Saturday as well on our sister station nine fifty KPRC.
If you're just joining us. First of all, Dan glad
to have you be where I'll he have you been.
And the Astros today Sports RV making variety of changes.
Both of the hitting coaches are out, the trainer, Jeremiah
(02:27:24):
Randall is out, and thanks to a great listener of ours,
there is Andrew Ball the Assistant General Manager. His title
assistant GM to Dana Brown, focusing on roster management, player evaluations, procurement,
contrent negotiations and rules compliance. He also oversees research and
(02:27:44):
development and sports medicine and performance. Makes sense, Yeah, so's
he's an R and D and sports medicine guy, and
now he's looking for employment. Yeah. Not knowing Jim all
(02:28:05):
that well, but knowing Jim enough, he probably went in
there and said, do your deep dive come back with
some changes. The run it back philosophy wasn't going to
fit for twenty twenty six. Just wasn't. And as speculations
to who the people replaced, it would be foolish on
our part to do it because my guess is ninety
(02:28:27):
nine percent of the people that we hear of names
will never know. And I know there's going to be
the Martine Mamanadod's got to be a coach on this team.
You gotta get him as a catch and coach Michael.
Everybody wants Michael Brandle, who went through the hitting coach's list.
It's not a bunch of former All stars. Now, knowing
Michael Brandon like we do, I think he'd be a
(02:28:50):
great hitting coach. I think you when you are called
a professional hitter, yeah, just swing at the good pitches
and don't swing at the bad one. Now, part of
the reason why he did retire is because he wanted
to see his kids grow up. Yeah, it's not happening.
I don't think I'll be shocked. I'll put it that way. Oh,
I'll put I'll agree with you. You never say never,
But I would be shocked because again, I don't know
how his hold his kids are. He's got to be
(02:29:11):
in his late thirty some of my guesses they're probably
in their teenage years, young teenage years. Being a hitting
coach at the major league level when you're trying to
watch your kids grow up is fairly difficult. And he's
got plenty of money, so it's not a question of
he's looking to, you know, keep himself employed. My guess
is Michael Brandley could retire, well he has retired, and
(02:29:32):
not do a damn thing the rest of his life.
He's got ten years of major league service time, so
he's got a pension come in his way. So we
will not do that. We will simply go off of
what the reporters. That's Chandler, that's Brian McTaggart, that's Matt
Kawahara from the Chronicle. Those guys will figure it out, man.
I'm sure Ken Rosenthal will mix in a couple of
people and Jeff pass It. This will be an interesting
time where you'll see some names that are brought up
(02:29:52):
because agents are calling these national writers and saying, hey,
can you flow my guy's name out there in Houston.
It even happens for position coaches. Now, we have not
had any breaking news on anything else coaching wise in
forty minutes. Forty five minutes can ever take So does
that mean the pitching coaches are okay? Does it mean that?
(02:30:13):
Does it mean that Tony Paris Chica is safe as
the third base coach?
Speaker 6 (02:30:18):
Now?
Speaker 2 (02:30:19):
I will say this, it probably also you can't assume
that because they're certainly going to want to tell these
people firsthand before they whisper things of the media. So
but so far, on a day where we were anticipating
some changes, it's pretty severe. Jeremiah Randall has been around
(02:30:40):
a long time with his organization. Oh boy, I was
going to tell you what our buddy Adam Spolman has
said about what he thought about this situation. That was interesting.
Now I didn't think of this, I frankly don't know
what the Astros thought of this. But here's was his statement.
Adam says, what stands out about the staff changes our
Astros are making is that they are moving on from
(02:31:02):
people who have been in trench in the organization. Going
back to the No Hinch days. Did you think about
that at all? No cleaning out Hinch guys and Luno guys.
I think if the Astros win ninety two games, which
were there on pace too, and win the division, which
they probably should have done if healthy, my thought is
(02:31:24):
they probably would have been around. I would think so too.
I think that these changes are a byproduct of two
months of utility, offensively because the last two months have
just been way different and the fact that so many
injuries took place. Yeah, I don't know. I don't think that.
Dan is like, I got to get all my people
(02:31:45):
in here, because these are people here that were part
of the World Championship teams in twenty twenty two, Right,
James Clik didn't get rid of those guys right away? No,
well they got rid of him they won the World
Series Series. Here's a one year deal with No Rais,
We're gonna put you in a downgraded hotel. I don't
think did that, but you know, you know what I'm
saying might have that medicaid you're going to you're gonna
(02:32:07):
expense account. You mean to ramp it in a lot.
Not bad, but good you funny. We did have a
call earlier. Jim does watch the dollars and cents. I mean,
that's his job as an owner. The amount of money
that the Astro spent this year, I'm moving guys around,
probably three hundred percent more than they probably anticipated. You mean,
(02:32:28):
I'm moving guys around, calling guys up, flying back and forth.
Probably true, balies. Okay, I don't think that's a huge factor,
but I do believe it's a factor. Okay, to get
to a to get to get a player, to get
to a certain city in a short time, and then
you're paying some major league coming. You paid guys this
year roster on the major league roster, major league dollars,
(02:32:51):
even though they probably in minor league contracts. That adds up.
And when they went into the money spent on rehabilitation
and transferring guys from Triple A to major leagues, we said,
we saw guys move up and down. Almost felt like,
I mean, what it's this AJ blue ball guy. I
mean they had called fifty nine South the AJ Blue
(02:33:11):
Ball express. The guy's been moving back and forth. That's
I mean that there comes a cost with that. Even
though it's in within the city, it's still salary. And
if the Astros having to be on the road, they
gotta fly a player up that all that stuff counts.
So maybe that's part of it is too, is it?
Speaker 9 (02:33:27):
Man?
Speaker 2 (02:33:27):
You guys they go, it's yeah, And I'll go ahead
and give you a small gut feeling even though we're
not in that's part of the show. Okay. I don't
think what they're done. Okay, you different to Tony Parish
chick feeling right now. I think you're trying to hold
onto something here, hold on on some stationary or something.
(02:33:48):
All right, let's play believe it or not? It is
all things about Eric Spolster, right, the new, brand new
US Olympic coach, Yes one on Sports Talk seven ninety.

(02:35:16):
go Saints, Go Rams, go Arizona Cardinals. Colts are about
to go to five and one. Texans are gonna be
two and a half behind now they have a chance
to make it up. They're gonna have to go beat
the Colts at least once. Colts don't. Texans don't beat
the Colts at least once. They won't. They can't win
the division, and you do not want to get into
(02:35:37):
a tiebreaker with any of those squads. Five minutes left
to go on the show. What should we do? We
