Is The Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Ten o'clock at h Town.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
Good morning, and welcome to a Wednesday edition of The
Mat Thomas Show and Ross. This is Sports Talk seven
ninety and the Mariners one for like the forty eighth
time in a row. Let's go, baby, Wick, come up.
(00:33):
It ain't supposed to be easy. I think I like
it to be easy, and I know you like it easy, man.
Sometimes it's difficult, sometimes it's too much work. Take the
I know you like to take the easy road, man,
I do. When you have a chance to fly first
class or coach, you fly first class. I've never flown
for Actually, that's a lot I have flown for. Ye See,
(00:54):
I knew you're such a fraud just once, and I
wasn't supposed to tell you actually what it was?
Speaker 4 (01:03):
Why?
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Why not? When was it? That's when we went to Minneapolis,
myself and Doherty.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
He bumped you up.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
There was only two seats left on the plane. Oh nice,
Why would you not tell me? That's how we want
to hear anything from you? Oh no, I know, I
mean you have to shame and all that stuff. We'll
talk about how you talk about how we're on a
vacation trip. You are on vac like, we don't want
to hear fro Matt. So we're not gonna tell me
not be on vacation. If things continue the way they are,
they're gonna make the playoffs at least. Yeah, but we're
(01:31):
not gonna go to the Wald card. You'll be home.
Turn it up a little yellow.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
This is a jam. This is my favorite song of theirs.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
I don't even think it's close. You want to Extreme
Matt Thomas Show with Ross History Minutia, please. This is
the first song I played. I played a bunch of songs.
E didn't like them because you were trying to give
me a feel for your music tastes, which are horrible. Yeah,
you told me that out of the gate. This is
like the first one I played that. You're like, yeah,
this is good. It's good. The Brewers are gonna lose
(02:15):
a game either, Jesus whatever. I'm not worried about the
National League. The National League is stacked.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
Yeah, that's true. I'm gonna worry about the American League West.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
First, good morning, everybody, Manna Ross with you here on
this Wednesday edition of The Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
There is a tie atop the American League West. It's
what you wanted, you want a close race. I didn't
say I wanted it. I said I'm having a great time.
I'm having a blast. First of all, you can't control
what's gonna happen, no matter what mat mm hmm. You
(02:45):
gotta learn in life to control what you can control,
that's true, enjoy the things that you can't. So you
know what, this is gonna be a race. Every game matters. Well,
Astros didn't think last night mattered that much as they
got destroyed fourteen to one. Of course they of course
it mattered, and they cared but pregnant with two home
runs in a series so far. Yeah, Jerey Peny had
(03:12):
three hits. Uh Arraghetty gave you five, Yes, it was
he gave you five and five the ugliest five you
have you ever seen, and yet you were still in
the game. When you walk five people in five inning,
you're supposed to be down nine nothing. Well, they eventually
got that way, but it was not because of him.
It wasn't because of him. Yeah. Well, everybody's like DFA,
(03:34):
Hector and Harris bring back Sean Duban baby. Yeah, well, dude,
lord Chas McCormick getting some innings in Yeah, I mean,
my gosh, Well you're saving your book sure least. Yeah,
a couple of innings from Colton Gordon and one from
(03:55):
Chas McCormick. So we didn't have to use any leverage guys,
because you are short on leverage guys. Would you had
two reliable leverage guys, two really reliable? A couple other
guys here and there, Brian King, Bennett, Sue's ash ok
every now and then, and one of them is down.
And Caleb Ward's gonna join us on the show today.
Oh great, so he's squall. He's gonna step up, Caleb.
(04:18):
You got some important games coming up from us, he does.
And the Astros may need still a right handed reliever,
and there's one out there Sports Harvey, Oh why is
he out there?
Speaker 5 (04:28):
Matt?
Speaker 4 (04:28):
What's it hold on?
Speaker 3 (04:29):
What's his name?
Speaker 6 (04:30):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (04:31):
It's Ryan World Series closer Presley? Okay, and why is
he available? Uh? He didn't like his accommodations in Chicago.
Oh that's true. He asked for his release from the
Chicago Cubs. He said, I want to out of this
National League ballpark, this this band box on his roo.
So then they designated him for assignment. They said, hey,
(04:51):
you can go your own way. They fleetwood macd okay,
and did anyone claim him on waivers? He is still
available at this point, okay, for the right spot. How
long ago was that a couple of weeks? Okay? And
he still hasn't been picked up. There's he's thinking about
all of his options.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
He's okay, and no one more thing, Matt.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
How many teams are involved in division and wild card
races in baseball?
Speaker 4 (05:15):
Would you guess, like completely, Matt?
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Eleven? Twelve? Matt, Yes, sir, don't twelve teams make the playoffs? Yes? Okay?
So how many are making the playoffs? And then how
many are in races? Would you say? Still a guess?
I mean, okay, so fifteen, but I mean some of
those races already done. AND's gonna win the Central So
there's nobody in the American League. Cardinals and Reds are
(05:40):
within four games, but he wants to go, and the Guardians, Rangers,
and Royals are within four games. So you add in
those five teams, that is seventeen teams in play. If
you're within four games, would you say you're in a
playoff race? Yeah, okay, So seventeen teams are in a
playoff race, yes, sir, and how many have tender the
services of Ryan Presling? There again, he is, he's got
(06:03):
so many options, he's going through it. He's he's taking
his time with this. I'm just asking. All I'm doing
is asking you questions. I know, and you're Pepper and me,
and I'm trying to give you the right answers. Okay, So,
I mean, I don't mean to go open ended with
you here, but how are we feeling? Does that feel
okay to say that?
Speaker 4 (06:20):
I love that question. I know I've been I've been
stealing some of your material.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
I'm actually feeling okay, not great, but I'm feeling okay.
I'm feeling all right, Poul. Question today, And we're going
to keep doing better job of this. We're gonna try
to daily pole questions just to kind of get the
pulse of things. How are feeling today about the tie
bit astros got? This is option one? M's when the
west is I didn't know what you were talking about
(06:45):
when you said tie bit at first. Took me a second.
I didn't want to just I just want I want
to just change things up litle it, and three was
too close to call. Forty eight percent say Astros got this,
thirty two percent say too close to call, and twenty
percent of the MS win the West. What I didn't
want to do is I didn't I was going to
try to just leave it to people that followed me
on the reply. But you can't do that because I
(07:07):
was afraid Seattle fan was gonna jump in there. I
Sawfee was gonna retweet it and get a bunch of
people from Seattle getting in there. So I mean four
that seem.
Speaker 4 (07:16):
Feels about right. That's what I voted.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Astro's got this baby. Okay, Now, remember you do have
seven with the Baltimore Orioles. You have three more with
the Kalarorado Rockies. Yeah, you had those last six games
of the season against the A's and the Angels. You
have the Angels, I think coming back here one more time. Yeah,
seven with the Angels. Now you do have what three
(07:39):
more with Texas, three more with Seattle, six more texts,
oh six for Texas, three with Seattle. Those are all
in Houston. So twenty sixth schedules strength and raining. Seattle's
twenty third, So it's close. Here's the problem when those
seven games are done with the Oriols, which will be
have been in the next week, that that number is
gonna go way high. Yes it will. Yeah, all right,
(08:00):
guess what you know what you do with those seven
games in the oels, you win five of them, six
and one. Let's go okay, Well you wanted six and more.
You win in five and one. This week they just
lost one. Yeah, they're gonna finishing off win the series
today against the Red Sox. By the way, first pitch
is at six ten if you're going to the game
to night, it's not seven ten. At six ten, yes,
because of Boston's travel needs. What they try to do
(08:23):
is you have to you have to be in a
certain city in a certain number of hours before the game.
And these teams don't like to play afternoon games because
again they're worried about the attendance. And with Boston being
a good draw, the chances of having thirty thousand for
a Boston game at six ten is a lot better
than having it at one ten. So if we were
if the askers were playing the Guardians or the on
(08:44):
the Reds, you can put this thing at one ten
and let those people go on, but it's Boston's. They
want to give an opportunity to play, you know, and
have a chance to get as many focus stadium. So
if you're going to the game to night, it's an
hour earlier on deck tonight five o'clock. First pitch is
at six ten. Here on seventh night, it'll be a
great edition of the Astros on Deck show. Come. I
guess it'll be just a replay Danna Browns conversation because
the person waiting the show will probably mail it in.
(09:05):
Wait a second, why, Brian bogusc two. Oh, it's on
deck with uh, it's on deck with the Adams. Yeah,
is it Adam and Adam? Yeah, that's not what it.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
I like.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
I like the saw your news tenth inning to.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
Night then m yes, oh yes, I knew I was
on post game, but I forgot I had no For
those who.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
Don't know pregames, the hard party, Yeah, that's what the
most work is put in it.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
I will be listening to you on my way to Austin,
going to UH daughter's got her first high school volleyball
doing in Austin, Texas awesome, beautiful, great city. Traffic is
ridiculously bad, but otherwise it's a great city.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
Enjoy squatting on thirty five.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
We're taking two ninety going in so okay, okay, it's
Grand Park better two ninety. That's what that's That's the
way it tells us, Hey, you're gonna get a lot
of tolls. But that's okay, that's fine. What are you
gonna do? I take it tent well, because I live closer. Yeah,
I think. I think from my house to the two
ninety Graham Park it is probably eleven dollars of tolls,
(10:03):
which I think, don't we pay for these roads anyway?
That's one of the reasons I. First of all, I
gotta say, buddy, I want a tight budget. Okay, that's fine.
Second of all, yeah, it's spie. If it's like five
extra minutes to not pay tolls, I'll do it. I
don't care. I need to get d Austin is faust
tell the toll road as already shut their bumb ass up.
(10:23):
I gotta shut your bum mass up. And it involves
a state lawge just got passed. Is the belt were
supposed to be like, hey guys, we're only gonna do
these tolls for a little while. And I don't know.
Same thing with hardy toll road, right, didn't there weren't
they like, Hey guys, it's only be tolls for these
hardy free road exactly. The Grand Parkway should be grand.
That should cost me a grand to get out it
(10:44):
all he does, all right, Uh bugas seven eleven o'clock,
shut your bum mass up. I just don't get it.
At eleven thirty, no shut no, shut your bum mass up.
And anybody got time for that? Eleven thirty we have
the news. At noon, we have Caleb or today at
one thirty, got believe it or not. And we've got
people apparently, as somebody called the Morning Shore this morning
(11:05):
that said it would be better at the Astros don't
make the playoffs. I didn't hear the call. You get
a higher draft pick. Well, I don't know what they
were thinking. There is a draft lottery now, right, Yeah,
but there it's only the top payful. I was gonna say,
if you're really gonna not make the playoffs, you might
as well go Colorado on us here and not win
another game the rest of the season. That's not going
(11:26):
to happen. Seven one three, two one two five seven
onety come on in and join this radio program at
seven one three, two one two five seventy. Did you
go to the game? If I want to hear from
those that went to the game last night, how do
you do it? Rossie? How do you go to a
game when your squad is beaten? Being beaten? The starter
(11:46):
kept in the bullpen? I mean, leaky's an understatement, right
the dam burst? Yeah, I was gonna say, what is
fifty times leakage? I guess it would be depends. That
was a horrific attempt at a dad joke, and I
apologize for that. I was just gonna let it fly by. No,
you shouldn't have you you must criticize. I'm trying to
(12:08):
be nice. It's not trying to be nicer in my
day to day life. All right, if you would if
you went to the game last night, how did you
spend like the innings five to six, seven and eight?
Speaker 4 (12:16):
And did you even stick around for the night?
Speaker 3 (12:17):
I think fourteen to one, by the way, fourteen to
one waves fair game. No, sir, we do not have
the wave under any circumstance. Seven one three, two one
two five seven prid of the show Steff And they
just said, Hey, I was the game last night except
for the pregame. Aside from the pregame excitement, Chas pitching
in the ninth inning was the highlight. If you want
(12:38):
to go to an Astros game in Chas McCormick was
the highlight of pitching, then that means, man, what the
hell happened to the previous eighteditning?
Speaker 4 (12:45):
Well, what means they got their ass kick.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
But I also do like it when a position player
comes in to pitch. It's fun games. A blowout gives
you something to be interested in. How's Chessy fizz doing?
And I ask a rude question, what's higher as the
ra or is batting average? Batting average? Well, depens, Oh
(13:10):
that's true. You're gonna take the desk take all right?
It was a fair question though, right, No, all right?
Uh so if you went to the game last night,
how do you it was a Tuesday night at the
dogs for dollar right, Yeah, so dogs and Chelsy Fizzles pitch.
At the end of the day, you just go hit
you more hot dogs, right, and you walk around, you
(13:30):
go see people in maybe like you ran into you know,
a friend of yours from high schools of the game,
and you go sit with them for a couple of innings. Hey,
I haven't seen you in twenty years. How are things? Oh,
there's another home run. Yeah, it feels like you always do.
Run into strange people you haven't seen in fifty years
happen and then probably it happens to me at least
four to five times a year at Rocket games and
probably three or four times at Astros games. Yeah. So, yeah,
(13:53):
it was last night a Facebook meet up where you
were just asked about what you saw in the field
and you said, Hey, I'm gonna go check my social
media and see if any my buddies are here. Or maybe
that lost love of yours from yesteryear. Oh wow, that
around nineteen. When did you graduate high school? Maybe two
(14:14):
thousand and three? Okay, that girl from two thousand and two. Mane,
you're looking good girl. It's been a while. I thought
you were gained way back in the day. But you
look thin now. Mm hm, This's happened to me a lot.
Man you you you're alive. Glad you didn't get the
charge of arm robbery got dropped. No, she's she got
took a plea deal, but did she really? Yeah, it's
still looking good. Say, hey, interesting spot for that tattoo. Yeah,
(14:37):
a couple of big pin prison tats. You good?
Speaker 6 (14:40):
All right?
Speaker 3 (14:40):
So if you went to the game last night, how
did you how did you survive that hot mess?
Speaker 4 (14:45):
Because even a lot of people probably laugh.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
Because I'll say this, when's when's the earliest you've ever
left a game? I will say I don't leave games
at all. I probably maybe wanted like that unless you're Look,
if it's up to me, if you're with like four
people and they all want to go, it's kind of
like you have no choice, right right, right. But I
like to stay there because I don't have children, so
(15:07):
I don't have to get them to bed. I don't care. Correct.
Speaker 4 (15:09):
Uh So, yeah, I like to stay.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
I I would say ninety seven percent of the time,
I stay full nine innings, no matter what. I am
ridiculously good seventh inning lever. I could see that during
the stretch, everybody's standing up. Great way to exodut again.
The game's close, you're sticking around. I'm saying, if I'm
ten one, I don't care ten zero, I'm done. I'm
hanging out having a good time. You you a lot
(15:35):
of times it's you know, it's easier to get out
of there. At the end when everybody's already left, I'm
gonna blowout. Yeah, Well, I can say seventh th innings
not bad either, So I stay. But I understand a
lot of people leave, all right, especially if you gotta
ge kids to bed. Let's talk to Jim in Missouri City. Hi, Jim, Hey, Matt,
how's it go? Man? Good friend?
Speaker 5 (15:53):
Good? Ninety nine times out of one hundred. If assuming
I've gone to one hundred ascle the games, I've probably
gone to more of my lifetime. But nine nine times
out one hundred, I am watching the game every pitch,
first thing through ninth last night, How I survived it.
We timed a corporate event with this game, so my
company I worked for co hosted with another company, and
(16:15):
we were in the center field upper deck, which has
that capacity for one hundred people, and we had eighty
five guests. So I spent the night checking in guests
and networking for with our clients and prospective clients, and
we had food and beverage, and.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
That made that game.
Speaker 5 (16:33):
I maybe saw about three or four pitches, and I
would have never done that, you know, and and and
you know, being in the stands of stuff. I'm watching
the game the whole time. So you time, you figure
out a way to time your corporate event with one
of those disastrous games, and you just spend time networking
and drinking and eating.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
That's how I survived that. So really, it didn't matter
what was happening in front of you. You were you
were pounded the mooze. I get you.
Speaker 5 (16:57):
The game was in the back because no, after I
checked in people, my intent was to watch the game,
and then I saw it was getting out of hand.
I'm like, I'm just gonna just chitchat with people and
the games in afterthought. But that's not what I do
when I go to a baseball game as an Astros fan,
I'm usually locked in. But this was nice to have
that distraction of company paid beverages and food and again
(17:20):
meeting people that we might be able to drum up
some business. Right, That's how I survived last night.
Speaker 4 (17:24):
We're gonna put your office man in, John Blast, you
ready for this?
Speaker 3 (17:29):
What you listen to me? I want to hear what
was served and I will figure out how much these
people meant to you all by what you served in
the in the suite.
Speaker 5 (17:38):
Well, no, so when we worked with the astros. Uh,
so we had a you you could order from a
so since we were in that central that party deck
in the center field, they had waitresses come out and
play and take the order. So we ordered from an
lt Info Mexican food menu, and then they had a
little bar right there that you basically order anything you wanted,
like Margarita's beer, some.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
Crown and diet were flowing.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (18:01):
So everyone was drinking a whole host of things.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
So we uh we ran up a bill. Man, So
your company paid for that. You're your company paid for
that bill?
Speaker 5 (18:08):
Correct, My company and another company we co hosted, so
we paid for it.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Okay. Well, then, by the way, your office manager gets
a name plus because you guys could have gone and
said dollar dollars everybody all you can eat. No you
w u n L Temple, which is the most expensive
part of the ballpark. So good for y'all.
Speaker 6 (18:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (18:23):
No, we yeah, we no, no we we When we
do events like uh uh network events or go to
conferences and stuff and we have like the booth or
something like this, we'll host happy hours too. We do
it upright. Uh, my company does it upright. So it's
it's a It was a lot of fun last night.
I mean for me, it was for us really. With
the game being out of hand, it's uh the perfect
(18:43):
opportunity just to talk more, you know, because people are
like the games out of hand. It's just right, you know.
So it worked out pretty good. So I swerved into
surviving that last night in a pretty good spot.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
Well, two things once, two things real quick for letting
go h Ross and I would like to come to
your next company event, So I mean bring us there
and then I would need a small appearance fee.
Speaker 4 (19:02):
Other than that, we're good to go.
Speaker 5 (19:04):
Okay, got it, man, see you later.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
You invited yourself and said pay me.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
Damn do you know? Two for that's very Matt Thomas
of you. People would want to talk to me. That's
gonna cost them some money, But you invited yourself. Well,
I no, I floored the idea to him, reach out
to somebody and then say pay me. Sure I get
because if Jim goes to his boss and says, hey,
I went on match and Ross's show and Matt Ross
would be a great idea to bring them to come
(19:31):
talk to our clients. I don't want him to think
that we're doing it for free. Okay, I mean you
could do it. No, I'll do it for half of whatever.
Matt is. You want to split the feet Nope, Now
how would we get a tannem Feemale? Split it sixty
forty sixty to me, that's fair, that's fine whatever.
Speaker 4 (19:45):
I just mean I want to talk to more people
than you are.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
You're bougie, and I want to have Margarita's. That's true.
Speaker 4 (19:52):
You know, I'm very happy at that point you.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
Are chatty Kathy, chatty Maddie. Yes, Ross, I will come
to your company of we'll liven things up. We'll give
you some inside stuff. Yes, but we just we'll We'll
need you to m some cap to us. And at
the end, Matt will juggle knives. Yes I will, I said, well,
and I will vomit for distance, and he will go
on a unicycle and he'll throw bowls on top of
(20:14):
his head. Yes, yes, that's exactly right. And I'll scream yea,
yea for two hours and to the point you'll say,
can we please leave this tall white man alone to
pay money? Stop? That's right, You're not that tall. I'm
six one. It's not grant, it's not terrible, it's above average.
It's in the what's the average hive? I think, okay,
some two inches average height. Ooh, I'm ten eleven. I'm
(20:35):
three inches above average. Seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven nine zero. So that's how Jim spent his day.
The rest of you guys let us know seven one
three two two ten twenty nine Brian Bogus SEVC and
one half hour here on seven ninety ten thirty three
(20:59):
Madden rocks with you on Sports Talk seven ninety Congratulations
to the Angels are pulling off a triple play last
night against the Angels against the Dodgers. I should say,
do you see Shoho Tani's back in the news. Yeah,
he hit into a triple play. Uh, that's part of it. Oh,
but he's being Sue's sports RB. Yes he is. He
(21:24):
and his agent, yes, or manager or something accused of
sabotaging a two hundred and forty million dollars real estate project. Yeah,
apparently was. I don't have all the details. You pulling
it up over there? Yes?
Speaker 4 (21:41):
Here it is had to endorse something.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
And then I always love this phrase, tortuous interference and
unjust enrichment in a lawsuit followed on behalf of real
estate developer Kevin HAYESR. This is happening in Hawaii, So
without getting into great details on this, apparently, the suit
(22:03):
claims that Otani and Balilo I believe his agent interfered
with the contractual rights of Hayes and Matsumudo, the other
guys involved in the deal. They were planning and developing
a luxury real estate project on the Big Island. Otani
and Ballelo are accused of interfering with the plaintiff's interest
in a second neighboring venture. According to the lawsuit, Otani
(22:23):
and Ballelo pushed for concessions from the plaintiffs before issuing
an ultimatum and threatening retali or retaliatory litigation unless one
of the project's business partners removed himself from the deal.
But this is look Otani is a special special athlete.
But who's what company is he hanging with? Bro I mean,
(22:45):
I'll be honest with you, who is nez Maallelo? But
my point is he had a bad interpreter, was gambling
his life away, got him involved, and now he's involved
in a two hundred and forty million dollars real estate
deal gone bad? You know how much? That's how much
the housing project was, how much was how much are
they seeking from Otani? I don't see that. I'm gonna
(23:15):
need to see more details on this, I suppose, But
I mean most athletes, I don't recall anybody else getting
I mean, I'm sure maybe somebody's gotten sued in some
kind of bad land deal. I'm just saying there's just there.
Athletes get suit all the time for misrepresentation or I'm
going to commit something, but you don't. I mean, that's
that's not uncommon that sometimes athletes get put into deals
(23:37):
they should stay away from. But it's just been this
is two straight years of show hey being in these
really bizarre stories. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, they
can town it seem like two different things. Can I
can I guess give shown some advice because you know
he listens to the show all the time. Uh huh,
Just collect your money and put it in I mean
(23:58):
ross an IRA or something. No, he deferred all the
first of all he got he's not eligible for an
IR a man, but okay, put it in the savings
account dollars. I don't care. But just stay away from everything. Well,
he deferred all that money man, so he's got to
make his cash back. To make his cash back somehow. Stop,
he said, show he's getting his chicken somehow. No, no, no.
Speaker 4 (24:18):
I it's just to be.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
I mean, there is so much goodness in him that
this is the last thing you need is another story
to uh not necessarily dampen who he is, but this
is two straight years of all the field stuff is
making sho how Tani's life uh not pristine when it
comes to national headlines. And by the way, he got
into a triple play yesterday that was kind of cool.
(24:41):
And he's going to uh, he's going to win MVP.
I mean, he is as musty as baseball's had. I've
got one for you, but this will put put our
thinking caps on from it. Who is musty before? Show
how tony in baseball? Was it Mike Trout when he
was healthy? Show him greater than I'm gonna go Barry Bonds,
(25:05):
what's up? You can go that far back? That's why
I mean that can present me with something that I mean,
I could change my mind, but I'm telling you what
to come to mind. Uh, let me give you a
few just to throw out there, and I'm just just
just for the sake of argument. Remember when Josh Hamilton
was smacking the balls with the Rangers all over all
the time. Yes, that was pretty much Sye for a while.
Who was the guy from San Francisco Giants? Poppy? Is
(25:28):
it poppy? Big Poppy? Is that it's called Big Poppy?
Played for the Red Sox?
Speaker 6 (25:33):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (25:33):
Okay, one of the Twins before that? I think Barry
Bonds then Barry Bonds. Yeah, thanks, Charthan Uh. I will
say show Hay more must watch than Mike Trout because
of the pitching ang Okay, but that's not my question.
My question was who, If show Hay is the must
watch of twenty twenty five, twenty twenty four, twenty twenty
three and all that, who was before Showy? Who was
(25:56):
who was the must watch before became Showy? Was it Trout?
It was Mike Trout. Probably Aaron Judge would be second.
I guess Aaron Houston Pooles is a cardinal was a
must watch guy? Okay? Well I hated watching him. Well
I did too, because it was rather personal. Yeah, training
tracks pooh holes not great? Yeah, I mean you're gonna
(26:19):
run into these players are going to own the league
and be on the cover of your various video games
and magazines. He is trend to transcended the sport and
is the most must watch baseball player since Barry Bonds. Yeah,
unless I'm presented with something that changes my mind, that
probably needs to keep better company, hang out with the teammates. Well,
I mean, yeah, I don't know. We need more details
on this agent thing. The interpreter thing was certainly sketch
(26:45):
at the very least, at the very least, at the
very most criminal, at the very least sketch. Yeah again,
show Hey, just play baseball, use your put your per
diem in an IRA or something, right, Can you put
something in some tourn of investments maybe? Yeah, maybe up
to four o one K from the Dodgers. Yeah, he
can do that that. You can put more into the
pension plan. Yeah, just do that. But no, he's deferred
(27:07):
all the money, Matt. It's got to make his cash. Okay,
nobody's buying your argument, not a single person, because you
got news for you. He made money with the Angels
before he did as that's true, you know, so he's
doing just fine. Yeah, maybe he's eating ramen for dinner
and struggling. I mean the media dining, I mean the
team dining is good. He gets two square meals a
day and he goes and plays baseball games. You think
(27:28):
he wraps up a sandwich and a napkin and takes
it home for dinner. Uh, same cash. I will say that. Uh.
Speaker 4 (27:35):
To go boxes in professional sports are quite prevalent.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
Yeah, see, especially if you're on a league minimum. No,
it's equal opportunity. Okay, the super rich to do it too.
Evil ones that make forty million dollars a year and
don't play to go to go play, you're calling out
John Waller's fine.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
I mean, if that's there, you gotta eat it.
Speaker 3 (28:01):
I would do the same thing. I'm not here to judge.
Look at it. Yeah, I'm mister t Especially at one
o'clock in the morning when you're in Beverly your family, Maddie, No, no, no,
this is on the road. You know, one o'clock in
the morning. There are no in and out to the
inter and out Beverly Hills. Do what you gotta do, yeah,
or they get door dash. They do NBA more Mash.
NBA players do more Mash a lot or Walmart Express delivery.
Speaker 4 (28:24):
Hmm.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
It's funny. Ross. You see how the folks would be
dropped that in there for no apparent reasons. Yeah, we've
heard Walmart Express delivery. To be a shamed of yourself,
you just should be.
Speaker 4 (28:35):
I'm not. I know you're not. Check it out, folks,
all right?
Speaker 6 (28:42):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (28:43):
Texans back on the practice field.
Speaker 6 (28:45):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
And then tomorrow they'll have the killing the Panthers in
for a workout. Okay, Bryce Young VCG shroud for how long?
Speaker 7 (28:55):
I mean?
Speaker 4 (28:55):
I want CG playing on Saturday a little bit, don't you.
Speaker 3 (28:59):
I don't care. I'm gonna say. I'm gonna say something crazy, Matt.
I'm gonna trust this coaching staff to play him how
much ever they want. Let me ask you this, This
is a real honest question. Has hej been hit since
starting training camp? Probably not? So don't you feel like
you need to get hit? One for what? Why? Zero time?
I think he knows what it feels like. He's been
playing quarterbacks since he could walk. Probably, But doesn't he
(29:21):
realize this offensive line's gone?
Speaker 2 (29:22):
You know what?
Speaker 4 (29:23):
It's Actually he shouldn't beginning hit because he's gonna get.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
Hit a lot more. Yeah. Week one against the Rams
he can hit a lot. Unfortunately. Yeah, just as long
as his head's not hitting the turf like he did
and when he was against the Jets, I feel like
he got can cut, especially his rookie season. Oh I
think there's been multiple concussions in his life. Yes, I
think only one was one or did he get one
(29:46):
last year, which the courch. The question then becomes, how
does the NFL allow that to happen? Because you've got
and you've got an independent doctor upstairs who's got his eye,
his binoculars on watching all the players, it'd be hard
to get away with it. But there's also some places
in the NFL that have I mean, for instance, that
(30:06):
MetLife Stadium turf in New York is supposed to be horrific.
It is, and I'm surprised that more players don't get
hurt on that turf. So I don't know, it's just yeah,
you're maybe right. CJ doesn't need to feel the brunt
of that pain. No, because against the Rams is gonna
feel it. Hopefully it's got that line, that line's protecting him. Yeah,
(30:28):
arianta Urseri is ready at right tackle. Cam Robinson may
be ready to play at left tackle, but we'll see
ol blind say, isn't gonna be an issue there?
Speaker 8 (30:36):
All right?
Speaker 3 (30:36):
Uh, Brian Bogusvik's gonna join us in seventeen minutes here
on the Sports Talk seven ninety machine, that is the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross seven one three two one
two five seven nine zero seven one three two one
two five seven ninety. If you're on Twitter, we'd love
to have you at at Sports Empty, at sports RV,
(30:57):
and of course our at seven pine eight account. We
do have a a Twitter poll question. We're gonna try
to keep doing this on a daily basis here, and
the question is how you feeling today about the Astros
now that they're tied with the Mariners atop the American
League West. Your choices are Astros got this, MS will
win the West or too close to call fifty one percent.
Still feel like the Astros got this, the MS to
(31:19):
win the West at twenty two percent, too close to
call twenty seven percent. ESPN ROSSI has something called a
sports Misery Index. Okay, we're gonna play the Sports Memory
Misery Index game we come back, so get ready for that.
Play along with us here on Sports Talk seven ninety.
(31:44):
There are five levels to your sports misery index, according
to ESPN Ross. So stay with me on this. If
you're the higher the number of the more woeful your
squad is, or your sports fandom is. If you score
between eighty to one hundred, you are the low lows.
We wouldn't wish this on anyone, almost anyone. Okay. Flailing
(32:04):
is between sixty and seventy nine. Some teams have it worse.
It might take a minute to think of them, though.
Meh is forty to fifty nine of the misery index.
Feeling somewhat ambivalent, you find yourself looking up at your
rivals Pleasant twenty to thirty nine. Your teams are competitive,
but there could always be more. Elated is zero to
nineteen in the misery rating. You remember your last championship
(32:27):
like it was yesterday, because it basically was all right, okay,
here we go, we're gonna do this misery rating. Now
I can't get what am I supposed to do? Now
I'm stuck? Click on one? Uh sure, why not? How
do you feel? What is your misery index on that?
My misery index? Yeah, I would say I'm not a
pleasant pleasant let's say pleasant. Okay, Now we need a
(32:51):
little help from you and are your favorite North American
pro team. In the box below, you can choose any
team which team would like you to put them? Put
in my favorite team? Your favorite team, the Houston Rockets.
All right, the Rockets. This is interesting. We're doing this
live on the radio. How long have you been a fan?
Less than five years? Five to fifteen or fifteen plus?
What do you think? Fifteen plus? Okay, okay, okay, yes,
(33:17):
pin doing this any favors here now, it's stuck. Don't
hurt yourself, Matt, you can You've put now, you've really
put some time in your team. All right, we get
your favorite MLB team, NBA team?
Speaker 6 (33:30):
Who?
Speaker 3 (33:30):
What other teams do you love? You want to add
some more teams? Yeah, let's sadd another teams An Astros,
Houston Texas. Let's add the Astros. Now, the Texans are
going to be under five years. I've only been a
Texans fan now for two year fifteen plus on the Astros.
Correct years now, that's gonna be my third years as
battle Red Ross correct? Yeah, of course, yeah, Astros fan
since I was could walk.
Speaker 4 (33:51):
Now an ad pops up, so I gotta go back.
Speaker 3 (33:53):
Okay? Oh now, oh my god? Ross mentioned something. Yes,
follow me on Instagram at sport It's RV. I really
would appreciate it. I'm putting together more content using my
green screen and I'll try to put something maybe tonight
or tomorrow, and I'm trying to build it up and
(34:14):
it would really help me out in my media career.
If you follow me at sports RV on Instagram, thank you, Yeah,
thank you. Follow you at sports RV. All right, we're
gonna add another team. We're gonna add the Astros. This
is not great radio here, but we're trying to do
this for the sake of it. That's okay. It don't hurt yourself,
Matt Well, I'm just saying, all right, and one more team.
We're gonna add the Texans. Uh huh. And you've been
(34:35):
a fan for less than five years. Yes, y'all can
do this. By the way, at home, as you listening
to show if you want to in your misery index,
you're less than five years. See results here it comes.
This is the bot does this? You are meh? You
win some, you lose some. Your rankings are who's your competition? Oh?
(34:55):
The Rockets are fifteenth among the thirty NBA teams in
misery Nicks.
Speaker 4 (35:02):
That seemed with that seems actually a little that's.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
Thirty misery. Well, why you verty straight losing season? Well,
you've been a fan for fifty years or lower. Well
you tell me when the two championships were thirty years ago. Yeah,
but you're a fan of more than fifteen though. Yeah,
it was great. I remember the great times going to
the parades. Team won fifty plus games last year? Yes, okay,
(35:30):
and uh it doesn't seem miserable. It just seems it
could be better. Yeah. I would say you take the
bad years with the sixtieth plus lost season three years
in a row, and then you add the fifty one
year plus the playoffs before that with Hardening, Chris Paul
and with Russell Westbrook. Yeah, it feels mad. The Astros
(35:51):
twenty ninth, that's good, that's great, that's great. The only
team that feels better about themselves are the Dodgers. I
was gonna say Dodgers. The Dodgers. Okay, now the big one.
Where are the Texans in the misery list? Oh my god,
they got to be way down there, number eleven. Yeah,
oh okay. The higher the number of the word the
(36:12):
worship got. So you were eleven out of the thirty teams.
So so nineteen teams and their fan bases feel better
about themselves than the Houston Texans do because again, you
make the playoffs, yeah, and you win some divisional games. Yeah,
and you you got some hope for the future. You
blank the bet in the divisional playoffs. You had huge
hopes that c J. Stroud is going to be a
(36:32):
top five quarterback, and now he's top ten ish and
he's time for ninth according to the Athletic Yeah, yeah,
it's top ten.
Speaker 4 (36:39):
H Okay.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
So this thing was, this is ai driven thing, and
it's not particularly entertaining by it. I want to see
what it how would pace everything? I don't feel that miserable.
Maybe it's just because the Astros are are very good.
What's my most miserable thing right now? Oh yeah? Can
you put the Houston Cougars in there. Well, here's what
I'm gonna say. I am ridiculously excited about Cougar basketball.
(37:01):
But however, however, if they don't win the championship, I'm
gonna be just as miserable as I was when they
lost the championship to Florida Championship bust Or mentality will
drive you nuts.
Speaker 4 (37:14):
But that's where I'm at.
Speaker 3 (37:15):
No matter who you are, you're gonna be disappointed, way, way,
way more often than not. Okay, Okay, especially in a
one and done tournament. That's hard.
Speaker 4 (37:23):
It is hard.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
That's why. That's why the misery is so high. They
were better than Florida. They're better team than Florida if
they play better than Duke. But they beat Dupe, and
that's true. That's another that's a good point. Duke was better.
I think Duke Wicks wins six out of ten, and
I think the Cougars win six out of ten against
the Florida, maybe even seven. So that's who I am
right now as we speak here on August thirteenth of
twenty twenty five. My astro misery is rather low because
(37:49):
I've already tasted championships and I know this team has
been beset by so many injuries. My rocket misery is
minimal because Kevin Durant just came here and I'm really
expecting a lot of things to be fun and coming
up this next season. Texans I'm not really a fan of,
so I'm indifferent to it. They do greatest, fine if
(38:10):
they're miserable. I don't car either way. Misery is like
White Sox. Misery is like Charlotte Hornets Colorado Rockies. But
even the Rockies know what it was. They made series.
Speaker 4 (38:22):
They got their ass swept out right.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
But think about this, but that, but they but they
at least they know.
Speaker 4 (38:28):
What does Charlotte Hornet fan know?
Speaker 3 (38:30):
The greatest player ever to play in basketball owned your
team for a while, and all you did was lose
sixty games. That's misery. And now my Cougars on the
basketball side, if if they don't win the national championship,
I'm gonna be a hot mess and.
Speaker 4 (38:48):
You're gonna text me sorry for your loss.
Speaker 3 (38:50):
I didn't text you that, did it. You meant it
that you meant to No, I didn't you telepathically did it.
I showed you some grace. And you know what I
got on top of that? What the VID? So the
now only that I lose a championship, I got the VID,
we got the code. It was a double doozy of disaster.
That's why when they your team lost the championship in
(39:11):
heartbreaking fashion fashion, you spent a lot of money getting
over there, and you caught COVID, correct Yeah, that's right,
that's misery. Yeah, but they were in the championship game.
That's not miserable. I know you're feeling miserable about it,
but I was feeling miserable about it. Poor Kelvin Sampson,
who I love more than life itself. I want, I
(39:32):
want to be my father figure. Okay he was George Michael.
That makes sure you you saw the cult. Try after
the game, he's like, m I don't know what happened.
I mean people get Yeah, he say a little snake
bit and it was bad. What was it the year before?
Who got hurt?
Speaker 4 (39:52):
H Was it Jamal shed that got hurt?
Speaker 9 (39:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (39:55):
Yeah, they could have won it. Then we need it.
The city Houston needs it. I don't think for my
mental health. I got the Astros. I know you need it.
I got the Astros to get my title for my
astro fandom. I got my Rockets as a PA announcer.
I need one more title from the Rockets, and I
need my Cougars to win the finally win the national championship.
So j Berni's like people I work with, and stop
(40:17):
talking about all the golf championships we have and we
can stage a full segment of Cougar fans calling in
and dunking on me. Oh god, it'd be gold. Can't
wait to shut my mess up. I think I'd be
fantastic seven one, five, seven. You know they don't love you.
Every time I go somewhere. You tell Rossall showed his
bumb mess up. Oh they're so cute. Fans think they're
(40:38):
so big time and they're not. No, they just think
that you're just belligerent and mean and rude. Well, it's
mostly part of the bit of the it's it's mostly
a bit, mostly a bit, I can tell you that
completely a bit. Seven to join us to start the
eleven o'clock hour after is the Matt Thomas Show with
Ross all Right, love it.
Speaker 4 (41:06):
O two is our time.
Speaker 3 (41:07):
We're gonna spend ten colity minutes with our friend Brian
Boga Sevic of Space City Home Network finale of the
three game series tonight five o'clock on the On Deck
Show TV on Space City Radio right here on Sports Talk,
Bogie will be joining me Friday with you out ten
to twelve.
Speaker 4 (41:26):
Well, look at are you gonna talk Texans and Panthers?
Speaker 3 (41:28):
That's good.
Speaker 4 (41:28):
I can't wait to hear your analysis on that.
Speaker 8 (41:31):
Wait two hours of two lane football in the American
Conference here?
Speaker 3 (41:35):
Yeah, okay, a serious question. We're good to the astros.
How much two lane stuff do you talk about with
your buddies and your family and the lums and that
kind of thing.
Speaker 8 (41:44):
Very little? I mean, our our discussions have moved on
from college stuff. I mean there's very little, honestly, turning
baseball season. We'll talk a little college baseball, but in
terms of following football, basketball, it is as casual as
it gets.
Speaker 5 (41:58):
Well.
Speaker 3 (41:58):
One of my best friends is the voy to the Pelicans, Teographini.
He used to be the voice of Tulane. All he
does is text me Tulane stuff over and over and
over again. I feel like the two you should be
bros or something.
Speaker 8 (42:09):
We are from a long time ago.
Speaker 3 (42:10):
All right, big opener against Northwestern August thirtieth, all.
Speaker 8 (42:15):
The smart kids playing football.
Speaker 3 (42:17):
Is there a.
Speaker 4 (42:17):
Dummy in the mix in that group? Jesus, that's crazy?
Speaker 3 (42:21):
All right? So start number two for Arrogatty. Now, giving
up the two runs was good. The walk count was
not obviously a thought about what you saw yesterday from
the starter who man has got a lot of pressure
on him over the next forty or so days.
Speaker 8 (42:36):
Yeah, I would say looking at yesterday and the first start,
even down in Miami, it's a little bit disappointing that
he's not sharper. You know, there was command issues that
kind of ran through both of those starts. From a
stuff standpoint, though, it's pretty encouraging. I mean, the fastball velocity,
the life on the fastball, those are both good. The
(42:57):
shape of the breaking ball, the spin of the breaking ball,
that all looks good. So there is reason to be optimistic.
Speaker 10 (43:03):
You know.
Speaker 8 (43:03):
The first start, he got a ton of swings and misses. Yesterday,
even being constantly behind an account, constantly having to deal
with runners on base, he was still able to win
in the strike zone when he was in the strike zone,
So there is a lot to light there. He's just
got to get better command, get all those pitches working.
You know, his repertoire as a whole versus all of
his pitches is kind of being, you know, one individual
(43:26):
pitch after another. So yeah, not as sharp as maybe
we had hoped from a guy who's not coming off
of an arm injury. But he looks a lot like
he did early on in the season last year. He
made a lot of adjustments and was much better late.
Hopefully those same adjustments can happen on a much quicker
timeline this year.
Speaker 3 (43:45):
Do you think he's thinking about, Man, I really want
to get back in the groove of these things of
pitching every fifth day, I miss so much time. Oh,
by the way, my squad needs me because I've got
injuries in my bullpen. Now I've got uncertain my starting rotation.
I've got Hobvier just coming back for personally, for Spencer,
(44:06):
he what didn't go through Tommy John, He didn't go
through the stuff that makes you miss twelve fourteen, sixteen months,
two years. What's going through his mind? Do you think
for him over the next handful of weeks.
Speaker 8 (44:16):
Well, you know, he's been around the team all year,
you know. Besides, you know when he at the end
of the rehead when he goes down to Florida to
get stretched out. So he knows everything that's been going on.
He knows the injuries that have racked up. He knows
that this team has been kind of piecing it together
waiting for everybody to get back. So he understands the
deal and the optimism of getting these guys back, and
maybe there's a little bit of pressure.
Speaker 1 (44:37):
I think.
Speaker 8 (44:38):
You know, what we have to remember with Spencer is
that this is only the second year, and he didn't
even get a full season last year at that so
he's still very early in the learning process. This was
still going to be a big development year for Spencer Araghetti,
regardless of getting injured or not. So the idea that
he's just going to come off of a long layoff
(45:00):
just immediately go in there and just be, you know,
essentially the savior of a rotation, that's pretty unrealistic, you know,
for us to expect from him, from him, to expect
from himself. I think just looking at it through the
lens of what he did last year and learning things
in a given start and applying them into the next start,
if we can see that growth start overstart, I think
(45:21):
by the end of the year, or maybe even after
four or five starts, I think it'll be the guy
that we were hoping to see coming out of the shoots.
Speaker 3 (45:28):
Here Bogie. This Astros Clubhouse, whatever version has been over
the last seven or eight years, has been cool and calm,
never so down when things are down, never so up
when they're on a hot streak.
Speaker 4 (45:39):
They've seen a ten game deficit eraced.
Speaker 3 (45:42):
Now in twenty twenty five, they've seen a seven game
lead race. It's hard to measure what that brahmin of
that clubhouse is because it's so many new guys. But
take us through what you think the general culture is
still without two b in there, still with a lot
of veteran leaders, but yet at the same time knowing
that the injury buck continues to hamper this team, and
(46:03):
all by the way, the team behind him. The Sattle
Mariners haven't lost since I think the first of the year.
Speaker 8 (46:08):
Yeah, I think, you know, just the circumstances of the
season have changed, right, Everything is fluid throughout the course
of the season. Sometimes you're the team getting healthy, sometimes
you're the team getting hurt. Sometimes you're chasing, sometimes you're
being chased. And you know, it sounds so cliche that
the one game at a time type of thing, but
you can't get through one hundred and sixty two games
(46:28):
thinking about a big picture constantly, and you can't get through,
you know, a decade of seasons. Like a guy like
jose L two. They are some of these veterans by
constantly being big picture oriented because it's overwhelming. So if
you're going to have a mindset when you know you're
chasing somebody in the standings of hey, we just got
to go out there, win a game, win a series,
(46:49):
you're going to apply that same thing when it's the
other way around and you're the team that was out
in the lead that has now been chased down because
there's really nothing else you can do can do. You
can go out there and you can worry about what's
it going to look like the next you know, forty
plus games, who are we playing in the upcoming week?
Who are the Mariners playing? None of that matters, And
to get to the success level that these guys have
(47:09):
gotten to, they know how to compartmentalize those things. They
know how to stay focused on the day to day
stuff because that's the stuff that really matters. So when
it's going good or going bad, it really is the
same mindset regardless.
Speaker 3 (47:23):
Yeah, so we have fans and media of course are
hanging more on every pitch and every game and the
results of that. But you don't think that's necessarily bleeding
into the batter's boxer in the field, No way.
Speaker 8 (47:34):
I mean, it's the same thing whether you're you're you know,
got a twenty game hitting streak, or you're in a
long slump. You're going there, you're getting your work in,
you're game planning, you're going through scouting, of course you're
doing it's all about the preparation. And then you go
out there and just play. And once you're out there
and just playing, what happened yesterday was the last ten
days or what's going to happen, you know, ten days
(47:54):
from now. It really doesn't matter, and it can't matter
because you know, you've got enough to worry about when
you're standing out there in the batter spots.
Speaker 3 (48:01):
Brian Bogosvik with us here on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Why has Carlos Curry been so good at the plate
back in a Nastro's uniform.
Speaker 8 (48:10):
You know, when you hear Carlos talk about hitting, he's
very rarely talking about mechanics, and he's always talking about approach. Approach, approach, approach,
having an approach for a pitch, for a bat, for
a game, for a one on one matchup, or even
the team. And you know, kind of the definition of
approach in my book is what are you doing to
(48:30):
tip the scales in your favor? Because the batter pitcher matchup.
Everything favors the pitcher. It's an impossible thing to do,
you know, hitting a baseball in general. The fielders are
so good, So how can you go out there? You know,
take into account what the picture's repertoire is, take into
account the game situation where the defense is playing, what
that picture's out pitches. You know, how do you factor
(48:51):
all of those things in to give yourself a better chance.
And when you watch Carlos go out there and early
on in account, he's obviously hunting pitches, looking for something
that he can drive, something that he can do damage
on later in the count. He'll try to take away
a pitcher's best pitch and not give them that put
away two strike pitch. He'll shorten up, and a pitch
that maybe takes a big swing at in a one
(49:12):
to zero count, he'll just kind of punch to right
field in a two strike count. So watching him go
out there and just execute and just really fight tooth
and nail on every single pitch, you can really appreciate
how he gets to the results. Where we look up
after you know whatever, it's been ten twelve games, and
the numbers have been really good, and I think that
(49:33):
is going to start to bleed over into some of
the younger players and just the team as a whole
and just trying to have those really drawn out, knockout,
drag out type of that bats ballgame.
Speaker 3 (49:43):
We were looking at MLB Network in our studio here
just a minute ago, and they just went through the
lineup one through nine for the Mariners. Eight of their
nine batters have an OPS plus right now of one
hundred plus. That sadly cannot be said for the local nine,
although there are numbers that are improving, Christian Walker being
one of them. How are you going to outslug the
(50:05):
Seattle Mariners to this fight of the finish in the
very last forty games or so of the season. Well,
I think we're.
Speaker 8 (50:12):
Going to see, you know, the last six eight weeks
of the season. Whatever it is. It's a different version
of this team. It's different guys in general. When you
look post trade deadline, it's different versions of a guy
like Christian Walker, who finally looks settled in, you know,
knocked on wood. If Jorden gets back, that changes everything.
(50:32):
So I don't think you have to look at it
from a big picture number standpoint can they hit with
the Mariners, Yeah, they can, and the end of the
year numbers might not show it, but I think this
is going to be a lineup and they're going to
have to because you know, the injuries are not going
away when you look at what's going on with Josh Hitter,
They're going to have to score runs to win games.
(50:52):
And now you know, there's a lot more length in
the lineup. There's a lot more guys that can can
can hurt you in the lineup, and there's a lot
of guys who aren't necessarily feeling the pressure of being
the one or two guys that it's going to have
to be them on any given day otherwise there's not
going to be aybody else to.
Speaker 3 (51:07):
Do it if Jordan does not come back. Forgetting about
the offense, what's the best Astros? I guess, combined defense
and offense? Outfield?
Speaker 4 (51:17):
Do you see the rest of the way for the
Houston Astros.
Speaker 3 (51:20):
In the outfield?
Speaker 8 (51:22):
I think it's probably you know, we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll
leave out the fact of does Jake Myers come back
or not. Hopefully he does soon, but right now it's
probably a platoon in center field. Uh, Trommel and Chaz
if he can get it going a little bit, which
it looks like maybe he's gotten it going just a
little bit. You know, Cam Smith is your right fielder,
(51:42):
Jesus Sanchez in left field. If you want to try
to work not I wouldn't say a platoon, but piecing
together if you want to try to hide Cam from
a tough riety and move Sanchez into right field. But
it's some combination of those two guys in the corner
and then you know, mixing al tuove in there if
need be right?
Speaker 4 (52:00):
Do you like this real quick? Do you like this?
Or I like five game?
Speaker 3 (52:04):
League? Guy? My partner over here to my right loves
the anticipation of this being playoff time starting right now.
Speaker 4 (52:10):
Where are you on what we have seen?
Speaker 3 (52:12):
Because the Mariners don't lose and the Astros are playing
a little bit under five hundred these days.
Speaker 8 (52:17):
Yeah, as a fan, I'm excited. I'm excited for a
lot of meaningful baseball. I'm excited for a lot of
you know, high energy games coming down the stretch. As
a player and as a guy, you know watching a
team that he knows wants to make a deep playoff run.
It would be really nice to have the last week
or so of the season be sign field and delivered
(52:37):
and you start to kind of line things up for
the postseason. But no, as a fan, you know there's
nothing better than coming out to the ballpark every day
and they're be kind of being those butterflies and that feeling,
and you get that in the playoffs, and the idea
of maybe getting that to the last month of the season,
that would be.
Speaker 9 (52:56):
A lot of fun.
Speaker 3 (52:57):
Bogy, thank you for the visitors. Always look forward to
hearing you. And Ross Friday, thanks for the time as always.
All Right, all right, it's Brian Bogus, gonna hang out
with you for a couple hours on Friday. Looking forward
to that. Yes, tend to noon. I'm excited, which means
ten the noon ratings will be really good noon to
two on Friday. A little concerned about That's fine. We'll
get the Adam Clant, so I'll just go and lay
(53:17):
it out for you. We got Gordy tomorrow t the noon, okay,
Bogie ten to noon Friday, Okay, one o'clock hour, Adam
Clanton tomorrow, one o'clock hour, Adam Wexler on Friday. What
a team effort around these parts. I really appreciate everybody.
I mean, they were See it takes four guys to
fill your shoes, Matt, I couldn't said it better myself.
Seven to one three two one two five seven ninety
(53:39):
seven one three two one two five seven nine zero.
We got to shut your bum ass up. Coming up
at the bottom of the hour, I've got one for
the state of Texas. Oh oh, So I want to
just briefly bring this up to you. What's going on
in a city I used to live in Minneapolis, Saint Paul. Uh.
I was a Saint Paul guy. Loved it there. The
(54:01):
weather was maybe like the crips and the bloods. No,
it was the uh. No, Minneapolis is very cosmopolitan, somewhat bougie.
Saint Paul is more working class, family kind of thing.
Minneapolis more it's a pretty good comp to what you would.
I don't know if Dallas Fort Worth it'd be because
(54:22):
Forts got some horty twity aries too, so it's even
a bad example. I don't know they do. But uh,
there are two incredibly different cities separated by eight miles.
It's really bizarre. Really enjoyed my time there a lot
The main reason why I left was two reasons why
my kids and my wife missed their families here in Texas,
(54:44):
and to the weather is atrocious. I mean, it's just
it's almost unbearable. How many months of the year is
it too cold? Six that's too many. It's it's hard
to live there. To send to May. Yeah, November can
get pretty dice. I remember bundling up on a Halloween. Really,
(55:07):
bundling up.
Speaker 4 (55:10):
January is.
Speaker 3 (55:14):
Cruel to it the human body minus thirteen, it's just ridiculous. Yeah, Okay,
So my point is this huge sports town, big vikings,
big unhockey, basketball getting there. Baseball, the Twins have been
around them since the sixties, haven't won a World Series
since nineteen ninety one. But yet they draw very very well,
(55:36):
diehard group. They knew who they are, they know they're
not going to outspend people. They know they don't get
the free agents. Typically, when they got Carlos Grad few
years ago, it was a big freaking deal with them
because Carlos Grid just doesn't those those types don't choose
the Minnesota Twins. Well, a lot of that was because
other teams are saying no thanks to Carlos. Yeah, I
love Minnesota. Yeah. Yeah. The owners of the team are
(55:59):
the pole Ed family. They've own the team since the
mid eighties, and they're MISI. It would be too strong
of a term, but they're not going to be They're
not Jim Crane. That's why I want to bring this up,
because there's a central point of this is that for
all the criticism that maybe Jim Crane gets, it's it's
just first, it's unfounded that he spends money. He doesn't
(56:20):
spend the crazy contracts. Yes, and we're frankly seeing a
lot of that these days. I mean, Alex Breiman went
to go get that crazy contract and he may not
even get it. He may get a better deal, but
he still may not get that super mega deal. I'm
hoping that Kyle Tucker doesn't get that mega deal. You wrong, Okay,
seven years I'll accept your cockiness on this is so awesome.
(56:43):
I cannot wait to win. This has been my greatest
victory if we lived. Okay, and the driver too. Don't
forget that either. So the pole Adds a couple of
years ago decided they were going to sell the team,
and everybody in Minnesota's like, oh hell yeah, So what
did the Twins do at this offseason or this during
(57:03):
the season. They stripped down last off season, yes, and
then the trade deadline they traded ten players. I mean,
they really stripped it down as a fire sale. It's
a fire sale. So people are like, Okay, now the
Twins have really made it economically viable for somebody to
buy their team. They just announced this morning they're not
selling the team that they've got two They've got two
(57:25):
minority investors that are going to jump in on the
fray and they're going to be exciting additions to the
Twins ownership family. So they're not explain that to me.
They're selling more shares to the minority owners. No, they're
going to They've gotten new minority owners they're going to
bring in. Okay, so they're selling parts of the team,
but they couldn't find somebody to buy it. And I'm
curious to the yea if that's because the sports landscape
(57:48):
in sports today, won't are finding fewer people to buy
sports teams, or that the price they were asking for
was completely atrocious. I mean, I think if you want
to sell a team, you can sell it. That's when
I was I mean, is that because these football teams
are selling for ungodly amounts of money. The Celtics got
sold for an ungodly amount of money. Yes, the Wolves
(58:08):
in Minneapolis. I'm very very mid NBA team Oxford Regez
and his old partner. They's been a lot of money.
Or what mattas Sheep about the Suns a few years ago.
There's been a lot of the Lakers sold for crazy
money to the owner of the Dodgers. But maybe what
about baseball? Though, I've not heard of anybody trying to
sell a baseball team lately. That's why I'm curious if
(58:30):
it's sports related or it's baseball related.
Speaker 4 (58:34):
But the revenues have been way up in baseball.
Speaker 3 (58:36):
They're they're gonna get a new television deal this year,
which usually means a spike it in revenue for whatever
they're going to go with. The Orioles just sold, That's right.
I forgot about that Orioles just sold last year? Or
how much one point seventy five billion? NBA teams are
going for a way above that? Correct? Yes, Rockets are
worth like six billion? Yeah? Yeah? Is this the Royals
(58:59):
sold in twenty two? Oh, Steve Cohen bought the Mets
in twenty twenty. He spent a pretty petty on that
two and a half billion. So I just the reason
why I brought this up. I just wanted to say
that if you are cranky with your ownership in your
particular of your favorite team, whether it be here in
town or somewhere else, just know that my friends in
Minneapolis who watched their twins basically stripped the team down
(59:22):
to a bare minimum. They got a new stadium about
fifteen years ago, but decided not to put a roof
on it because the pole ads are miserly and cheap,
and said, we don't need it because we don't want
to pay for it now that we know, we know
we need it, but we're just not gonna do it.
We're just won't schedules in April, yeah, and October they've
been fine. And so this team is where it is,
(59:45):
mired in a very mediocre division. I mean, the frenk
is Detroit's good, but I don't know if anybody's considered
them a legit World Series candidate. Cleveland doesn't spend money,
kandas city doesn't spend money, the White Sox are a
perennial loser. I mean, that's a division that a good
baseball team or good ownership should win on a regular basis,
And they find out today that they are staying with
(01:00:08):
the Pole II family, at least from a majority standpoint.
So I just was just I saw that on my
time on then I was I got to bring that
up a little bit to say, you know what, sometimes
it's you got a pretty good where you are. That's
the c is who's the best owner in Houston? Is
it Jim Crank?
Speaker 8 (01:00:23):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:00:23):
I someon does a good job. They spend money. Honestly,
all three of them are doing a rocket job. Attacks Yeah,
Hannah's doing great. I mean, Hannah's completely change the image.
I don't think the Texans are miserly. They're always you
can't improve NFL. You have no Yeah, but I don't
know what you mean facilities and stuff like that. Now
because you have this, there's a salary for in a
salary cap, yes, and everybody goes to the salary cat.
It could get It could get surly if Hannah comes
(01:00:46):
out and says we need money to build refurbish our
NRG or get a new stadium that or it's gonna
get really really tough if you lose if you win,
people are like, I can't wait to spend my money
on your new facility. Making a super Bowl or at
least an AFC Championship game is gonna get you votes.
Speaker 4 (01:01:03):
That's literally crazy.
Speaker 3 (01:01:05):
That's a huge proponent in our factor in this is
just on field performance. Yes, if we if we did
a universe if we did a vote where they just
made the super Bowl, and if we did a vote
where they didn't even make the playoffs, it would be
vastly different. Isn't that crazy? Like like if we did
a Paul this question right now and then we saved
it for twelve months and they go to the Championship
game or they go to the super Bowl. Even if
(01:01:25):
they don't win the super Bowl, I bet you that
the survey results would be I wouldn't say a complete
one eighty, but there would be a significant shift in
the well we'll do whatever we can. Just know this,
the Texans are not leaving Houston ever. It's just gonna be.
It's gonna be. There's gonna be some muddy waters for sure,
especially if they don't win. Yeah, and especially if no
(01:01:49):
pressure to be going. Cal has to do stuff without
Hannah by his side because Cal's gonna what does that mean?
Meaning that he's gonna say something that's gonna be misconstrued
or not what the team message would want to be.
That's why going be two more than one foot away
from him. They got a good muzzle on them. They're
training them up, and they've hired and they hired a
guy to be their team president who is in this
(01:02:09):
in the in the stadium business. So he's gonna, Yeah,
he's gonna be handling those documents a lot of confidence,
a lot of phone calls. Hey, we want to bring
on our team president here to talk about what it's
gonna be great for the community and raise money. And
we've got call of duty war zone Cal. Yeah, all right,
you reready to shut your bumb mess up. No, I'm
ready to talk for two and a half more hours.
All right, we want you to call us right now.
(01:02:31):
Have you got something in your life you want tell
them to shut their bumbashes up? Seven one three two
one two five seven NAINTI seven one three two one
two five seven ninety eight aget get confident?
Speaker 6 (01:02:46):
All right?
Speaker 3 (01:02:47):
Eleven thirty five Sports Talk seven NINTI. This is the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross seven to one three, two,
one two five Sevenati, we should explain ross. If somebody
is irritating you at the office, somebody who is sending
you spam emails, somebody is interrupting your lunch with endless
phones calls, text, Maybe somebody cuts you off in the
(01:03:09):
middle of the freeway. Maybe a sports athlete did something
wrong and insulted your favorite sports team. Simply tell them
to shut their bosses up, and you play the sounder
up there you go, up, Oh that pits I've gotten
I get about forty a day. I got three this morning.
(01:03:31):
Did you do that forty a days? Insane? Did you answer?
Speaker 5 (01:03:33):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:03:34):
I know, I don't do that. Oh god, so much
used to, but I don't anymore. Oh God, I live
for it. Seven three, All right, I gotta ain't nobody.
I got time for something. And this may be an
unpopular taken I fully expected. Okay, I am an anti
Texas House Bill fourteen eighty one. I don't know what
that is. Students K through twelve cannot use any personal
(01:03:59):
communication divine during the school day. What about if there
is an emergency? Who's the dean that's an emergency? Well,
I don't know. There's been several school shootings in text
That is my point years now. I don't know if
they're doing it because they think the kids are distracted,
or if they think that the kids are using it
to cheat and look ais being as a huge role.
(01:04:21):
Can I just go to handwritten stuff? And never? I mean,
how can you cheat if everybody has to put their
phone up and then you do handwritten stuff? Isn't that
the solution to all this? Here's what I would do.
And I'm not in education and never been. I've been
to school a long time. Okay. You have a little
room with a little bag in it. You put your
phone in when the class starts, and when the class ends,
you go pick up your phone, or you can get
the little pouches like they take Have you been to
a concert where they take up your phone?
Speaker 2 (01:04:43):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:04:44):
Yeah, yeah, it happened at the Dave Chappelle content to
My daughter's first day of high school was today. There's
a lot of people that are listening to show their
first day of schools. If I want to get a
hold of Carly right now, at eleven thirty seven, I
should be able to do it. I'm sorry I for
me not develop and again and you're saying, well, you
didn't have that communication. The counter argument, I get it.
(01:05:04):
It's twenty twenty five. They've changed. Yeah, theyre also weren't as.
Speaker 4 (01:05:07):
Any school violence.
Speaker 3 (01:05:09):
School violence and school shootings and school period blank happening
is five hundred percent more than it was thirty five
years ago.
Speaker 4 (01:05:19):
I want to be able to get a hold of Carly.
Speaker 3 (01:05:21):
If I want to say, hey, take the dogs out
when you get home, then she needs to be able
to see that. I am against this bill. So I
would say to Texas now again, I don't want her
using the phone to cheat. I want her to be
able to drop the phone off from the class arts.
But if she's at lunch with her buddies, or she's
in the bathroom and she's got her five minute break
and she wants check and see what's going on in
her life, or when her mom and dad text her,
(01:05:42):
or her best friend text her, or whatever the case
would be. What else is in this bill? Uh, it's
it's no phones. It's no, it's nothing. It's no tablets,
none of that stuff. No electronic device is capable of
telecommunication or digital communication. That includes smartphones, flip phones, tablet,
smart watches, radio, devices or pagers. So I say to
(01:06:04):
the State of Texas, anybody got time for your house bill? Hey,
nobody got it. And again, may be on the wrong
side of this, but with all the things going on
in the world, if the blankets the fan at a
particular school and I want to say Carli or Yule
can't guess what, I won't be able to find her
because I can't get she can't get to her phone
until after school. It sucks just my own person two
(01:06:25):
opinions too. Sorry, Matt, Okay, thank you. I don't have
time for this ESPN misery rating. You said they had
me feeling med. I'm feeling pleasant.
Speaker 4 (01:06:35):
Rockets are doing good.
Speaker 3 (01:06:36):
They just got Kevin Durant. Sure, they haven't won a
championship since the nineteen nineties, Astros won two championships. Texans
are looking stagnant, but at least that they're ten in
divisional victories and well, okay, divisional round losses. I'm not
that miserable. Shut you, obamass up misery rating. Shit they
(01:06:59):
shut your momss Ai.
Speaker 4 (01:07:01):
Yeah, shit, tobam mass up man.
Speaker 3 (01:07:05):
First of all, saday I said you trust Ai. You're
gonna fill as wrong A lot way too much. I'm
telling you. In fact, when I do I think you
can do like a slash no AI or something like
that at the end of your Google searches. I need
to start doing that. It's just wrong. It's just it's
(01:07:26):
it's well, it's it's not only wrong, but it's dated stuff.
It's very off the wrong. I know somebody that was
at a trivia night and the guy had looked up
the trivia questions on AI, and he looked up the
trivia question was who's the only astro to win an
MVP award? There's been two. I'll so some people said
(01:07:47):
bagwell and got it wrong, and that there was a
whole trivia night controversy because AI since this this season
was ended by the strike, but still he's nineteen ninety
four National League MVP. It is correct. So there the
it's costing people in trivia night. There's like controversy.
Speaker 4 (01:08:05):
We can't have that, right, No.
Speaker 3 (01:08:06):
We can't have people drinking seventeen Gins and Tonics and
losing the The trivia night is a whole uproar gift
covers to do it, trivia night? What's trivia?
Speaker 1 (01:08:18):
Hey?
Speaker 3 (01:08:18):
I shout to bum mess, up shot, bum Mess, up man, what's.
Speaker 4 (01:08:22):
Cheery night guy?
Speaker 3 (01:08:23):
Like? By the way, oh, trivia night's actually I think
describe trivia night guy.
Speaker 4 (01:08:28):
Trivia night guy.
Speaker 3 (01:08:29):
Yeah, there's probably nerds who like to have a couple
of drinks and prove to everyone else smart they are.
Speaker 4 (01:08:33):
Can I tell you when I'm trivia night guy, what
I do?
Speaker 3 (01:08:36):
Okay? I try to answer the question before the question
is even finished, and you shout it because yeah, because
I should write it down. No, we can. You can
do a shout if you want to. No, you're here
very proud upon Okay, I'm just gonna tell you for
you single fellas out there, if you and a couple
of bros see like two girls at a trivia night. Hey,
you guys want to make a team, and we should.
(01:08:56):
We only have two people. That way we can get
some more people. It's a great way. And then if
you answer questions wrong and look like a doofist, then
it's probably not gonna go well. But if you go
there and you're smart and you interact and then you
prove that you you have some smarts, it's gonna go
very well for you. I used to be you s
to have trivia night with the rockets when Steven Salas
was the coach. Oh yeah, I was always the pick
(01:09:18):
because I did very very well in these things. Thank
you very much.
Speaker 4 (01:09:21):
I'm glad.
Speaker 3 (01:09:21):
I'm glad you brought that up. So wondering very knight guys, door,
what's trivin night? Girl White, she's with a girlfriend, she's there.
Nerdy girls? No, No, I would sometimes.
Speaker 4 (01:09:31):
Bookish, that's okay?
Speaker 3 (01:09:33):
Are you sure? I think it's a little higher than that,
especially when they talk to friends trivia. That depends somebody's
playing friends trivia. They're pretty pretty hard. Smart girls and
nerdy girls are a great and they need love too, man,
I need love. Everybody needs love. Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seventy questions if you're hooked up at a
trivia night seven one three two one two five seven
(01:09:55):
ninety I imagine it's happening all over town with our audience.
Can't wait to every night ours? Kyle on seven ninety colleges, Kyle,
what's the matter with you?
Speaker 2 (01:10:04):
Man?
Speaker 10 (01:10:05):
I got I had one shut you by man's up.
Now I got two because Ross said that, first of all,
I am not a nerd, okay, And I go those
trivia nights. I've been on many cruises. I win every time.
Speaker 4 (01:10:16):
Yeah, you're a nerd. Nerd, now you're a nerd, Kyle, No, no, no.
Speaker 10 (01:10:19):
But tell you, I'll tell you what you can shut
your mass up because MT is mister Texas. And don't
you forget it.
Speaker 3 (01:10:25):
That's right, am you don't call me mister Lonees State.
Now you're you don't actually believe this, right, You're the
absolute worst candidate for mister Texas. Get where am I
going this week? I'm going to Austin.
Speaker 2 (01:10:39):
What don't be jealous?
Speaker 3 (01:10:41):
Jealous exactly? Jealous of what he said?
Speaker 10 (01:10:44):
Well, because we're from you of H and you're from
the school who has to buy their players.
Speaker 3 (01:10:49):
Oh really, So you think this five star quarterback going
to U of H. You don't think there is any
monetary compensation happening there.
Speaker 10 (01:10:57):
Well, no, he just wants to win.
Speaker 3 (01:11:00):
He wins, So he's he's going to the team projected
for five and a half wins. Kyle, by the way,
projected with your thirty first team in the country. Thank
you very much, exactly, Thank you, Kyle. Kyle, feel fIF
free to call anytime you want. Kyle is clearly a
smoking crack this morning, or huffing down some pole that
has his number thirty one in the country, and I'll
(01:11:20):
take what a football? What pole? I don't know I
saw it. You made thirty Somebody backed me up on this,
thirty first, first of all, number thirty getting so proud
about being thirty first compared to where we've been? Are
you kidding me? I'll take thirty one. I would just
remember the Yeah I got news for you five years ago.
You'd love him thirty one. What are you talking about? Hell? Yeah, No,
(01:11:44):
nobody would have loved to be thirty one. And Cole,
when you had Charlie Strong run things and Tom Herman,
you would have died to be the know they were
ranked multiple times during that era, and and Tom Herman
won a won a Sugar Bowl and they won ten
games that season. I want to say it to seven years,
top ten in the country that year. You know what
I'm saying. Would you say it's not always perfect in
(01:12:05):
Austin It's no. I didn't say it was perfect in Austin,
but you were have taken this. No, I would not
have ever taken top thirty one and said this is great.
You know it's called standards man, really pious. Yeah, they
called me win fifteen golf championships and get all excited
about that in the nineteen seventies.
Speaker 4 (01:12:22):
We're all proud of you, mister.
Speaker 3 (01:12:24):
Mister Texas says number thirty one is okay. In twenty
twenty five, next year we'll go about that. But for now,
I'll take thirty one. Mister Texas. You you're not making
it out of the primaries. I'll say it again. You
don't like sweet Tea, you don't like doctor Pepper, you
don't like Enchiladas sugar products. Okay, you don't like Tomali's,
and you're not a big fan of brisket. You're out
of here.
Speaker 4 (01:12:44):
I'm Brisket's fine by me.
Speaker 3 (01:12:47):
I'll be in I'll be in Austin and then I'll
be going to looking back Texas, whyling, No, you're the boys,
such a liar, being Ron Rock all the good stuff.
You'll be in Peach for mister Texas. Within sixads, I
got the lone star state around my belt, around my
way seven one, three, two two five seven ninety kind
(01:13:13):
of love this station. The conversation we have off air,
spectacular Cross. What happened to you over there? All right, a
piece of the microphone fell off. It's all good. Don't
tell them in the cost Now, that's all good. Are
you sure I didn't do it? Yeah? I'm blaming Sean
to the phones. We go, uh, Brian and perlang. Brian,
(01:13:33):
what's the matter with you?
Speaker 9 (01:13:35):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:13:36):
To the people who I got to him, to the
people who control the two eighty eight toll road. Eighteen
dollars at seven thirty in the morning from five eighteen
just ending downtown is absolutely highway robbery and criminal. Ain't
nobody got time to be paying that crap or sitting
in traffic for two hours?
Speaker 3 (01:13:57):
And I'm who there that eight?
Speaker 4 (01:14:02):
Yeah, I totally agree with you.
Speaker 3 (01:14:04):
I've done it a couple of times because I've got
some clients out in that area and the easiest way
to get back into the city is to take that
twoity eight toll It's He's right, it's ridiculous.
Speaker 4 (01:14:13):
Scam it scam scam.
Speaker 3 (01:14:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:14:17):
What can we What can we give up in order
to get free toll roads?
Speaker 3 (01:14:21):
What do they want us to pay?
Speaker 5 (01:14:22):
More?
Speaker 3 (01:14:22):
And probably more tax? But they're just gonna misappropriate the
funds because you know, welcome to machine politics. What kind
of machine like a machete, like a gun, like a
like a whale oiled machine that taking all of our
money and misappropriating funds and kickbacks. And you seem to like.
Speaker 4 (01:14:40):
Your pro government.
Speaker 3 (01:14:41):
I love it. Please join me in this bill on
pro government. It's just the people that I mean. We
need government, we need roads, we need roads paid for,
we need certain things. I don't want to be able
to text my daughter. I hope you're having a good
day at eleven. We need government, but we need good
people to run it, and that just doesn't happen. Well,
that's why as Brian as a Barney Gardener, who's our
Alex and Gardnoks's who's our garden Oaks guy, James and
(01:15:04):
Chadd No, Alex and garden Oaks is the one that
complains about Joe spotted never taking pictures out. Yeah, James
garden Oaks calls me governor. You know I am mister Texas,
so I've hearn in the state. I could.
Speaker 4 (01:15:13):
I could run this thing like a well oil machine.
I just could.
Speaker 3 (01:15:17):
Let's go to uh chance, Jacob on the north side. Jacob,
what's the matter with you?
Speaker 2 (01:15:23):
Yeah, it's all the guys that call in.
Speaker 10 (01:15:26):
With your jokes and your impersonations.
Speaker 2 (01:15:29):
Shut your bum mass up. You're not funny, you're not
a professional.
Speaker 9 (01:15:34):
To stop.
Speaker 3 (01:15:35):
Put your sports take out there, hang up the phone,
move on, thank yous up. Man Jacob doesn't care for
uh let's see. We had Harry Carey recently, a couple
of times. Who else I don't remember we've had, we
had Bradward, Bradward. I think Bradward's funny, it's fine. And
Harry Carrey isn't okay fin the way, Ivan's gonna vote
(01:15:59):
for me for Texas, mister Texas.
Speaker 4 (01:16:01):
Yeah, I called he's got a screw loose.
Speaker 3 (01:16:04):
That's okay. Uh oh. Trevor says, I actually host a
trivia night in the Woodlands every Tuesday. I call it trivia.
It's a travia trivia whatever.
Speaker 8 (01:16:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:16:13):
Look, I mean this in the nicest way, like, yeah,
if you're all super into trivia, now you're a nerd.
But I don't mean that in a bad way. And Core,
of course, Kyle's not that much of a nerd because
he went to you of age. So we're tier one
baby medical school, that's right, Tier one medical school, architecture education, broadcasting.
Speaker 4 (01:16:33):
Law school.
Speaker 3 (01:16:34):
What don't we do we do, we do everything, magnificent, magnificent. Yeah,
your graduates can't even say real words. Yea massif so
I call it because i'm mister Texas. Oh my god,
you're the You're this is a bit right. You don't
believe you're actually a good. Mister Texas. Horrible holds to horrible.
(01:16:57):
First of all, I love Galveston, Okay, why does that
make you? Mister Texas doesn't bother me as much as bothers.
I love Lubbock, I love Austin. I go to the
valley once in a while. It's not terrible down there.
I what else do I like? What year did the
Texas declared its independence? Eighteen thirty six? Boom? Namely three
(01:17:19):
generals of the Texas Texas Texan Army, Lee, Alfonso and
Rodriguez already out. Because you don't like Tomalow's ninchiladas orch
and you like to put beans in chili. I can't
have you either way. Be shown. That shows me flexibility,
because good leadership requires flexibility. You're mister inflexible. Hi, Gary,
what's on your mind? What are you mad about?
Speaker 6 (01:17:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (01:17:41):
I was listening to the radio station and there was
this man that lives out in Kingwood.
Speaker 3 (01:17:46):
I believe he was a.
Speaker 11 (01:17:47):
Tennis dad and then to hurt somebody else somewhere. I
believe he was a volleyball dad. And they're both wanting
to piss all over people's fun parade at at the
ball games because they want to do the way. It's
because you don't like the way we're telling everybody else
what to do and how to have fun.
Speaker 9 (01:18:06):
So shut your bumb ass up.
Speaker 3 (01:18:09):
Shut your bum ass up. Man, You and Gary got
beef again. I thought you'll kissed it made up.
Speaker 4 (01:18:14):
I thought I did do.
Speaker 3 (01:18:15):
Gary. Don't get in a car WRECT today. But if
you do gave in to one, hope you don't get
injured too bad. I hope you don't lose a limb
staring from those eighteen wheelers too, because they can run
over your car real quick. I know about twenty seven
(01:18:37):
law firms you can call if you do get in
the CARRECT, And if those law firms want to spend
money in the station, I'm available. Send me an email
mt at sports seven ninety dot com. Send me an
email Ross at sports seven ninety dot com. No, you're
too busy, Walmart. You don't have time for anybody else Walmart.
Let's go, baby, you're such a You're a Walmart whore
(01:18:57):
who doesn't love Walmart America. It's chine Express delivery within
an hour. Okay, Gary, the wave sucks and you suck
even more. And like I said, if you get in
a car accident, I'll help you be okay. Man, you guys,
he was the one that called you a clown. I think, yeah, No,
it's I love. Let me tell you something, Gary, maybe,
(01:19:18):
and I mean this in all due respect, Gary maybe
one of the dumbest people in here. No, y, I
think Gary makes a lot of good points, you know what.
Speaker 4 (01:19:24):
I think people understand why you think Gary's cool.
Speaker 3 (01:19:27):
By the way, somebody found the thing where the U
of H was thirty first.
Speaker 4 (01:19:31):
Yeah, it was.
Speaker 3 (01:19:32):
Some random guy's ranking of all one hundred and thirty
six teams. And you're trying to heck like this is
some sort of a sort of official ranking. Huge deal
to me, I know, so you know, and you know what,
I shouldn't make fun because this is so pathetic that
a fan base would get excited over this over being
thirty first and one random person's rankings. What is a
guy's name?
Speaker 5 (01:19:50):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:19:51):
Yes, one random person. Yes, a college football analyst R J. Young. Well,
R J Young shout out to you. I heard the
Let me tast some there are bigger losers than our
J Young. Go to your YouTube channels and look for
Texans coverage. That's worse. Well, he has the Texas Longhorns
number one. But let's discount that. Then that doesn't make
(01:20:11):
any sense. See, and I didn't discount anything. I just
think it's it's pretty sad that a fan base, one
random guy puts your team thirty first, and y'all get
a whipped up in a frenzy about it.
Speaker 4 (01:20:21):
It's called respect.
Speaker 3 (01:20:22):
I don't want to make fun of the pathetic history
of Houston Cougar's football. So we not. We took care
of Florista Community College and the peach Ball. We win
games left and right in the league. We've had a
couple of times because our coach decid he didn't want
to recruit anymore. We got a recruiter in there. We
got our five star quarterback. But being with thirty first, Yeah,
like I said, it's pathetic. Athletic had use sixty eighth
out of sixty eighth in program valuations for Power four
(01:20:44):
team that's just one person championships. I mean it's sad.
So I really, I really don't want to keep bringing
this up. So I'm really gonna try to stay away.
You keep bringing it up, making ton of this sad
history of the half empty stadium. So I'm gonna try
to stay away. You're not gonna do sorry. People like
people know you don't go to cook fans. Your feelings
would be hurt badly, but you keep bringing it up.
(01:21:07):
This is the thing. I don't bring up them being
thirty first in some rits. I say thirty first because
because the America is finally respecting the cougar foot, it's gospel.
I didn't say it was gospel. I said it's a
good thing. But people are realizing how good things are
going to be this year. The News at Noon is
coming up after the Astros unfortunately brought us down last night.
Speaker 4 (01:21:27):
Details on that next year. On seven ninety is The
Mac Thomas Show with.
Speaker 12 (01:21:32):
Ross Astros and Mariners now tied for first atop the
American League West.
Speaker 3 (01:21:47):
That's because the Mariners beat the Orioles one nothing. I mean,
come on, one nothing, Come on, you can't score more.
So the great about late Bob, you Christ and you
can't get more than one GD hit. I don't even
know how many hits the Oriols had, doesn't really matter,
(01:22:08):
but they didn't score any runs. Get kind of an
uneasy feeling about this race. Wait a minute, Oh no, no, no,
I'm mister excited. I want these thing's gonna be fun,
and I'm having zero fun. I'm just talking about the
outcome of the race. You having fun? Okay, I'm glad
(01:22:32):
you're even fun. I'm not having a blast at all.
I'm worried to hell that Hoyora alvareizing will be back
for a long time. Why I'm worried because he's in
Florida Complex League swinging a bat. He's feeling good. I
could be in a Florida Complex League swinging a bat,
feeling good. Okay, Well, you don't have a career ops
plus of one sixty eight.
Speaker 4 (01:22:50):
Well I'm trying.
Speaker 3 (01:22:56):
George Kirby seven to three, seven innings of three hit ball. Yeah,
they got a lot of good pictures.
Speaker 4 (01:23:02):
Josh Naylor, the RBA, Josh Naylor is.
Speaker 3 (01:23:05):
The one doing all the damage for the diet, for
the uh Mariner's offense. It ain't you Heineo Hailina Sarez,
he a Flotteth. Oh yeah, he's in ninety eight tos
one for oh for three yesterday they only scored one run, Matt.
They got great pitching, Heeneo Suarez. It's batting, oh ninety
(01:23:29):
eight is coming to the American League and they won like
twenty three in a row. Well, cal Rally has got
like seven hundred home runs.
Speaker 4 (01:23:37):
Let's get to the news at noon.
Speaker 3 (01:23:38):
Okay, I had a Jordon's career ops plus. Wrong, it's
one sixty two. That's fine. Eight. I'm sorry, all right, Matt, Yes,
so those are do the Astros get walloped by the
Boston Red Sox yesterday fourteen to one.
Speaker 4 (01:23:55):
I'll give you some bright spots.
Speaker 3 (01:23:57):
Jeremy Pina had three hits, his averages up to three eighteen.
He continues to play well for the Strows. Jan r.
Diaz had a couple of hits as well. Team one
for seven with runners in scoring position. That wasn't positive.
But I'll tell you, I'm gonna leave one spot off
of Spencer Arrighetty. Start tell you was good five innings, pitch,
just one hit, just two runs, three strikeouts and no
(01:24:22):
home runs, and he had a good time. He said
his fuck, he had many fundsies were had, hair was flowing,
hair was flowing. He enjoyed himself and remind him of
his days when he was no hitting the Main Creek
rams and he issued five walks.
Speaker 4 (01:24:42):
Five walks.
Speaker 3 (01:24:43):
I mean, look, the Astros are gonna win this game
again today. They're gonna keep first place, and we've can
we have some sort of seance for the Baltimore Orioles.
What do you mean, like get a Ouiji board out
or something. No, they just sucked. Just go out there
and beat them. Hey seven with the merit with the
uh Orioles.
Speaker 8 (01:24:59):
Come.
Speaker 3 (01:25:00):
I know we keep talking about and talking about, but
you gotta go out there and win the games.
Speaker 4 (01:25:04):
They do not play them on paper.
Speaker 3 (01:25:06):
Met the Astros going for another rubber match, my rubber game,
Hunter Brown on the mound, Howie Fanz Walker Buehler minus
one fifty five for you Houston Astros. That feels great.
I feel like it should be higher. Astros win five
(01:25:27):
to two.
Speaker 4 (01:25:29):
You were here first, five to two, six oh nine,
first pitch.
Speaker 3 (01:25:34):
Yes. Elsewhere in the news, Matt Shardoor Sanders sitting out
practice with an oblique injury. Cleveland Browns have had injuries
to a number of their quarterbacks. We talked about Joe Flacco,
can you Pickett, Dylan Gabriel. Then they had Tyler Huntley,
I believe had they had to sign. So they got
a whole big pack a mid over there in Cleveland,
(01:25:55):
and it comes to quarterbacks. But unfortunately Shadoor Sanders sidelined
with an oblique injury and it's been held out of
joint practices which they are being held right now with
the Philadelphia Eagles. How many Cleveland brown Victors will be
in twenty twenty five six?
Speaker 4 (01:26:15):
Well, you're you're optimistic on them alone.
Speaker 3 (01:26:17):
I was thinking more than three four? Right up? I
have no idea what's going on in the schedule?
Speaker 2 (01:26:22):
All right?
Speaker 3 (01:26:22):
Matt tom Dundon, the owner of the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes,
has agreed to bly the Portland trail Blazers from the
estate of Paul g Allen at evaluation of have you
seen no, I'm not kind of man. I guess okay,
Now we mentioned just for a mintalometer rockets were evaluated.
I believe it's six billion Portland trail Blazers. What's my
(01:26:47):
range going into this one? Seven?
Speaker 4 (01:26:49):
Billion.
Speaker 3 (01:26:50):
No stop, just guess four point six billion. Four just
more than four billion is the valuage. So I don't
know how much you're in the right ball park, Thank you.
Speaker 1 (01:27:01):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:27:01):
Dundon intends to keep the team in Portland. Sources have
confirms to eat SPN. They're going for a new arena.
Don't kid yourself for the Portland Trail Blazers. They were
put up for sale in May. Did not take that
long for them to get sold a little bit different
than what happened there in Minneapolis. Although we are probably
(01:27:22):
gonna see you know we're seeing in the NBA. And
because I've seen it in Phoenix, I've saw Toronto last year.
The Rockets have been going through this. We're seeing renovations.
I don't know if what the reason for it is
is that it feels like NBA arenas are being more
renovated than they are being torn down and created in
(01:27:42):
new facilities. So Toronto's, like I said, Toronto's got one going.
Phoenix Sano Santurna's getting a new arena back downtown. So
but yeah, anytime a new arena you hear about, Oh,
we intend on staying in Portland. Just give me a
new arena matter. Are you familiar with the name it
David Booth? Is he second cousins of John Wilkes. No,
(01:28:07):
he is an American businessman, investor and philanthropists.
Speaker 4 (01:28:12):
Okay, he has given.
Speaker 3 (01:28:16):
A massive gift to the University of Kansas, unprecedented. I'm
not even going to ask you a guest. Three hundred
million dollar gift to the University of Kansas, believed to
be among the largest single gifts in the history of
college athletics and the largest in school history. Seventy five
(01:28:38):
million of it will go to launching the second phase
of the transformation of the David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium,
imagine that, and construction of the surrounding district. They are
going to put an emphasis on football upgrades through the
University of Kansas with this three hundred million dollar gift
that will also establish auditional revue stream for other can
(01:29:02):
Kansas athletics? Well, what I would have said to this man,
David Booth, is where the hell were you ten years
ago when the SEC was looking to expand, Because my
guess is Kansas is very better than not in the
SEC Missouri.
Speaker 4 (01:29:20):
Because Kansas Surrey.
Speaker 3 (01:29:21):
But yeah, MISSOO was ok it was a different time
and place these days, ten years ago. One more thing, note,
I know, I know you don't have any because you
don't prepare this for March. According to a woman who
writes for front off of Sports, Annie Costabile, she says
that Houston is the still preferred landing spot for the
team known as the Connecticut son of the WNBA. Oh
(01:29:44):
really that the Sun are being sold. There could be
a move to Boston, or there could be if Tillman
Fritino wants to purchase it, move the Sun to Houston, Texas.
So if you're looking for WNBA, it might be now
around the corner, but it could be a possibility. Let's
get you on the beat. I mean, look, I've done
(01:30:05):
to the.
Speaker 4 (01:30:05):
NBA games before they won. I like home basketball games.
Speaker 3 (01:30:08):
I mean I do it. They asked me to for
the right price. That wouldn't be much. I mean, I
just like home games. Okay, I missed, I missed. Now
they don't travel, so I'd stay at home the whole time.
You see me all summer? Dang, all right?
Speaker 4 (01:30:25):
Actually like you better in studio? Well I played, I paid.
Speaker 3 (01:30:28):
Better attention to I like you not in your Apple
watch either. But I've been asking for that for five years.
It's fine right to four Apple watch you put away
your phone. I got my news item from there. Thank
you very much. You have a left up. I don't
like that. Gar you scroll Thomas twelve fourteen Sports Talk
seven out of you. I'm the I'm the governor, and
(01:30:49):
mister Texas, No, you are not.
Speaker 4 (01:30:51):
Scott. People have said it. You heard the previous callers.
Speaker 3 (01:30:54):
Thank you very much.
Speaker 4 (01:30:55):
Well, they're drunk, Scott, Michael.
Speaker 3 (01:30:57):
And Steve hangtag. We're getting to all three of you.
I promise us, you promise.
Speaker 4 (01:31:02):
I guarantee those sir gentlemen are coming on this.
Speaker 3 (01:31:04):
You're issuing a personal guarantee, personal guarantee you as long
as you standing on. Anybody else that calls in is
getting on the show today. With exception that dufist that
called earlier. What's his name? Gary Spring? Gary? You you
got open uh carte blanche as they say, Gary, you
know if you get a flushingting bacteria. I'm sorry, you know.
(01:31:25):
Frank keeps calling back. I think he's mad. I called
him stupid a while ago. I'm sorry. Can we end
this few between you and Frank? Sure?
Speaker 4 (01:31:31):
Put him on right now, Hi, Frank.
Speaker 10 (01:31:36):
Hey, what's going on?
Speaker 9 (01:31:37):
Man?
Speaker 3 (01:31:38):
Frank? Are you still mad at me?
Speaker 4 (01:31:39):
Hias Ross, I'm mad at you?
Speaker 7 (01:31:44):
All right?
Speaker 1 (01:31:45):
You know what happened?
Speaker 4 (01:31:46):
What happened for you know what? I'm sorry, Frank, I'm sorry, Frank.
Speaker 3 (01:31:51):
Get him? Get him? Frank? Can I apologize?
Speaker 4 (01:31:52):
Can I apologize to.
Speaker 3 (01:31:53):
You live on air right now?
Speaker 6 (01:31:56):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (01:31:57):
I'm sorry, my uh, I must I was acting.
Speaker 4 (01:32:02):
Out in anger.
Speaker 1 (01:32:04):
Okay, Well, working with Matt can do.
Speaker 3 (01:32:06):
This, That's what I'm saying, Frank, excuse me, so, Frank,
I think you're kind of a genius.
Speaker 1 (01:32:10):
Frank.
Speaker 6 (01:32:11):
Hey, Matt, you gotta let him know that you cool
with us, because it's.
Speaker 1 (01:32:17):
Cool to be ball hitted.
Speaker 4 (01:32:18):
Yes, sir, it is.
Speaker 1 (01:32:20):
You know that's right.
Speaker 6 (01:32:21):
I am.
Speaker 4 (01:32:22):
I gotta be honest with you, Frank.
Speaker 3 (01:32:23):
I may be one of the in the ten percent
of the sexiest men in Houston comfortably ten percent, ten percentile,
ten percentile, nine out of ten.
Speaker 10 (01:32:32):
Yes, you might might be.
Speaker 6 (01:32:35):
Uh, it might be a little lesson that, Matt, because
I'm in there too.
Speaker 3 (01:32:39):
Yes, sir, you are? You sound like it, Frank. I
gotta get there, Frank, thank you for the phone call.
Glad you guys are buddies. Frank, You're always welcome to call.
Now see now, now see Frank has been bothering on
man Johnathan. Now we're all. We're all kumbaya. We're all
good and gary. Like I said, if you drown on
the pool, I hope somebody's gonna rescue you. Twelve seventeen
on the Matt Thamas shol Ross twenty three Madden Ross
(01:33:01):
with you here. If you miss Brian BAUGUSMC earlier today,
shame on you. We're gonna play a little bit of
that coming up at one twenty Caleb Ort from the
Astros Caleb with a K. I think I misspelled his name.
I never thought of Caleb with a K. I always
love Caleb c A L E B. That's my mistake.
So I apologize and I'll fix that later. What the hell?
Speaker 11 (01:33:20):
I know?
Speaker 3 (01:33:21):
What the hell? Man Ort?
Speaker 4 (01:33:23):
I don't even know where that Where is that name from?
Speaker 3 (01:33:26):
Mark from Ort? Do you think anybody caught that reference?
Speaker 6 (01:33:31):
Maybe?
Speaker 3 (01:33:32):
Jonathan? Are you in there? Yeah? You ask me if
I caught the reference, caught the reference not at all.
Speaker 4 (01:33:40):
If I said to you, Nanu, how would you feel
about that? I would think you'd be speaking a different language.
Speaker 3 (01:33:46):
Hey, good, You're not the only one that can make
references from nineteen seventy eight.
Speaker 4 (01:33:57):
Real quick, Jonathan, fuck on the phones.
Speaker 3 (01:33:59):
Oh my god, here we go. If you if you
and your girl break up, I don't want them. I
don't want you to. But if they do. There's these
two girls I want you to meet. They work in
a brewery in their roommates, and they knew more and
they knew morek from work. They knew what work from,
(01:34:23):
work from Ork, Ork, work from Ork, work from Kayla Bard. Yeah,
it's right. So if you ever want to get ahold
of these two ladies, let me know. And their dad
runs a pizza shop. And one is kind of frisky,
one's not so it's and and one isn't as this
like fake cat that she's like hung and hung out
(01:34:44):
with all the time, all the time. Ross. This sounds
like a seventy sitcom. It's not just friends of mine. Yeah,
and he runs the piece of shop. What piece of
shop is it? It's oh god, I forgot the name
of it. Oh uh, it's this I don't want it's
called it's a brewery and pizza. I forgot what. I
didn't watch the show. I didn't don't say show any
(01:35:07):
time I was in real life. Oh I'm sorry, I
didn't watch the real life story you're telling. They've made
two weird neighbors too. All right, Matt, can you just
get to the college and promise? I promise I've been
talking seven one three, two one two five seven nine yeer.
I apologize for that well in advance, and let's talk
(01:35:28):
to my screen stuck. So, okay, what do you want?
Speaker 4 (01:35:32):
Scott and Brookes line two on seven one High Scott.
Speaker 5 (01:35:36):
And Matt Ross.
Speaker 1 (01:35:37):
What's going on?
Speaker 6 (01:35:38):
Guys?
Speaker 1 (01:35:38):
So, Matt, I know you seem to you seem a
little bit nervous and apprehensive about where we are in
this division race with the Mariners. So I'm not.
Speaker 8 (01:35:47):
Sure if this thought will help make you feel.
Speaker 1 (01:35:50):
Better about the overall state of the team, but it
might help everyone in the audience feel a little bit,
you know, better, ease their nerves on the day to
day stressing the standings with the banners. I don't want
them to win the division and give them that satisfaction
just as much as any other fan does. However, unless
we end up catching Detroit or Toronto, we are regardless
(01:36:13):
of whether we win the division or end up as
a wildcard team going to have to play in that
fluky little wildcard thing, and you know, with Hunter and
Frommer presumably going game one in game two, it doesn't
you know, whether we play that at home or on
the road. You know, we're gonna have to just let
the chips fall where they may with that. So overall,
unless we catch Detroit to Toronto in terms of accomplishing
(01:36:35):
our overall you know, goals for the season, trying to
win win the World Series, it really doesn't change much
about where we are, whether we win the division or not.
As well as we make the dance, does that help
at all?
Speaker 3 (01:36:47):
Really?
Speaker 4 (01:36:48):
But it didn't help at all because the reality is this.
Here's here's the other thing.
Speaker 3 (01:36:54):
If they find they drive the wild card, you're gonna
have to burn your two best pitchers to keep the series.
He's alive, which means you're gonna start from your back
into your rotation. So yeah, but they're not a number.
They're not a top two seed right now, right No,
but they're burn them anyway.
Speaker 1 (01:37:08):
They win the division, they're the third seed. They're gonna
be playing in that no matter what.
Speaker 3 (01:37:12):
Well, we got three with the Tigers coming up, so
you can beat the Tigers and get in that spot again.
Beat the Tigers.
Speaker 1 (01:37:18):
That's right, Detroit, That's right.
Speaker 3 (01:37:19):
It's in Detroit. Stop is fine. Tark schools gonna skip
the rotation because he's tired, needs rest. Okay, I wouldn't
mind that. I wouldn't mind that either, Scott. You might
take your effort was a ten, but the execution was
about a three and a half. No, I thought the
execution was good. You just see it's not being a worrier, Matt.
It's all good. He go, Scott, I worried thanks to
the phone Atros.
Speaker 4 (01:37:39):
Let's go now.
Speaker 3 (01:37:40):
I still have faith, but I'm scared. You're scared. Scared?
Speaker 6 (01:37:45):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (01:37:47):
Do you want our friends at fangrass playoff odds?
Speaker 3 (01:37:50):
Please?
Speaker 8 (01:37:52):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:37:53):
I thought you're gonna give me more than a one
word answer. Give me a second, I'll talk to go ahead, please.
The favorites to win the division and their eyes are
Mariners for sure, fifty six point nine percent for the
Mariners forty two percent, they say for the Astros. Interesting okay,
but the Astros to make the playoffs eighty nine point
nine percent. Looking good, looking good. I'm happy with us,
(01:38:15):
And these odds change daily. You win three out of four,
Mariners lose three out of four. You're looking good. How
are the Yankees to make the playoffs? By the way,
the Yankees to make the playoffs are at seventy one
I'm sorry, eighty five point seven, so they're even though
they've been playing some very poor baseball, they still are
considered a heavy favorite to make it. Yes, okay, let's
talk to Stephen Huffman on seven Aunting you at twelve
(01:38:36):
twenty eight. Hello, Steve, Hey, how are you guys doing?
Speaker 5 (01:38:41):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (01:38:42):
I just yeah, I go away to Chicago for two
days and come back and hater is not not with
us for a while because he's hurt. Yes, sir, Okay,
all right, Well, I went to bed last night and late.
Speaker 1 (01:38:55):
I won't tell you about the escapade I had out
of lower air.
Speaker 6 (01:38:59):
But anyway, here's here's my crazy, crazy recommendation, and I'm
going to give you my realistic one to file.
Speaker 5 (01:39:08):
So why do I get the feeling?
Speaker 6 (01:39:11):
I was watching the Hall of Fame induction speech by
Billy Wagner and I know he's what sixty now, maybe
sixty five, and this YO was telling him at the
end of his career when he was said he's going
to retire. He was still throwing the ball triple digits,
(01:39:31):
and Bid said, do you really think about you want
to do this? And well he did. Well, here's my
crazy here's my crazy suggestion. It's certain way we could
talk him into closing games for a while. You know,
I got the feeling this guy could still bring it
the nineties even at his age. I think he takes
great care of himself. He wouldn't take much to get
(01:39:53):
in shape.
Speaker 5 (01:39:54):
Now.
Speaker 6 (01:39:54):
I know it's a long shot in so many different fronts,
but it's something maybe to think about long term. Now, realistically,
he's fifty four, by the way, Okay, well even better?
Speaker 5 (01:40:07):
What's what?
Speaker 6 (01:40:08):
What about Presley? I know he's lost a lot, the
Cubs get rid of him, but do you think he
could be of help to this team in the short term?
Speaker 3 (01:40:21):
Presley, I'm sure the tires have been kicked obviously a
situation that other teams have had the interest or like
thereof that's why he's still available. Do I think he's
going to figure out a way to be on a
major league team before the end of the year. I
believe the interest. Yes, Let's go back to your an
original point, Steve. The only way that Billy Wagner.
Speaker 2 (01:40:45):
I know, I.
Speaker 3 (01:40:47):
Stay with me, Stay with me, stay with me here,
just stay with me. Step the only way. What do
you do for a living, Steve mask.
Speaker 6 (01:40:55):
Well, I'm a project coordinator for a Fortune one company.
Speaker 3 (01:40:58):
Congratulations that for the only way that Billy Weiner comes
back and pitches for the Astros is if you go
and drag to your office for seven consecutive days.
Speaker 8 (01:41:09):
He yeah, all right.
Speaker 6 (01:41:12):
Well, like I said, I knew it was a long shot.
We were writing a book now that's realistic, you know,
a Grisham type novel. But you know, I know we're
in the real world right now. And by the way,
you know, putting all this aside, everybody's talking about you know,
the Mariners are going to win it now Chant probably.
But you know the thing about the Mariners, when was
(01:41:33):
the last time.
Speaker 3 (01:41:33):
They were in the World Series zero nothing not.
Speaker 6 (01:41:37):
Yeah, they won one and ten, one hundred and twenty
games in two thousand, I can't remember, and they and
they spit it up at that time. And by the way,
gets to the Mariners have to play the next two series.
I think their reality will come come down, crashing hard
on them when they go to a city field and
they go to Citizens Bank Park. There you go. I
(01:41:58):
think we're going to see different outcome.
Speaker 3 (01:42:01):
Much better. Your call rallied. He knows, no, he didn't
rally rallied. The two thousand ones Mariners have nothing to
do with this. Twenty twenty five teams has zero.
Speaker 4 (01:42:11):
Were god awful. Billy Wagner taken, he rallied.
Speaker 3 (01:42:14):
George Kirby doesn't care what each ero is doing in
two thousand and one. It has nothing to do with
this year. It does nothing zero, correct, But at least
it wasn't as bad as the Billy Wagner is going
to come back and try, so honestly, that's going on.
I'm putting on the mount rushmore right now. That that
part of the call of the entire thing that's up
there with uh, Michael, Michael Branley, Michael is better than Mike.
Speaker 1 (01:42:39):
Try.
Speaker 3 (01:42:40):
Is one of the worst takes you will ever hear
in the history of anything. And that wasn't a caller.
That was somebody co hosting, So that makes it worse. Well,
that was four hundred times worse. Car on the Moon
was also somebody in ozy. I'm putting it right there
fifty four year old back after this, after we have
(01:43:03):
a long quick shot of something twelve thirty three on
seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (01:43:09):
Seven, we just finished off a bottle of boons.
Speaker 3 (01:43:17):
Feeling get it? Steve, I love you like a weird
uncle that I stay away from at the family reunion.
Speaker 4 (01:43:24):
Hey, Steve was the call on uh Menoral Moments and
the tenth Inning Show?
Speaker 3 (01:43:28):
Right, I think?
Speaker 8 (01:43:30):
So?
Speaker 4 (01:43:30):
Do we have in the system still from Monday? Was
that from this Monday?
Speaker 11 (01:43:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:43:34):
Why does it feel like that was ages ago? Because
it was Dan hosting the show over the weekend. Okay,
great Moments and tenth Inning Show. I don't know. Let's
ask our friend John. Then you have it, so man,
I can pull it up. Let me get a call
in here, and let's look for it. Because I said,
fifty four year old Billy Wagner is getting loose. He's
ready to come back, folks, I mean that's not a
(01:43:58):
long shot. That is a literally everybody the world has
to be stricken with a zombie apocalypse and they need
to sign somebody, and then Billy Wagner is one of
the last people left on earth, and then he would
sign back with the Astros. Hmmm, that's quite a bit
what you just said there here it is here, is here,
it is here, it is I'm gonnafford it to you
(01:44:19):
right now, Jonathan. Okay, play right off the screen here.
Let's get a phone call and then we'll play it here. Yes,
please talk to uh Michael on seven on the Hello, Michael, Hey,
how are you good?
Speaker 7 (01:44:31):
Okay, Matt, you still got the five bucks you want
off of me on the Phil Nicholson.
Speaker 4 (01:44:35):
Tiger Deal, Yes, sir, I do.
Speaker 7 (01:44:38):
Okay, So I'm gonna make a real stupid bat today.
I'm gonna take JJ spawn to win New FedEx Cup.
Speaker 3 (01:44:46):
Of two weeks.
Speaker 9 (01:44:48):
Over Cheff or any of them.
Speaker 3 (01:44:50):
Wow, well give me that bet.
Speaker 4 (01:44:53):
You get the field, I got the field. I'll take
the field for five dollars.
Speaker 1 (01:44:56):
Sure, okay, you got you got the feel.
Speaker 7 (01:45:00):
Wins it. So yeah, I should get odds on that,
but I'll let yeah tell you. Uh So, I'm looking
at some stats and it looks like Mickey Mantle has
the most home runs in the World Series lifetime. But
he also has that's thirteen, I think, and that's also
his playoff record, which would make hi much two hundred
(01:45:21):
and forty seven because he didn't have they didn't play playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:45:24):
Right, correct, just the World Series?
Speaker 11 (01:45:27):
Yeah yeah, I mean you had to win the pennant
back then he didn't have correct wild cards, right.
Speaker 1 (01:45:33):
Okay, So so okay, I got you there, and uh,
that's that's it.
Speaker 7 (01:45:38):
I just wanted to get a chance to make that
bet years for twenty six years since I sold your
touris for your wife?
Speaker 3 (01:45:45):
Oh where did you work.
Speaker 8 (01:45:47):
Ac Collins when you're in Oh? What is up with
A C.
Speaker 4 (01:45:51):
Collins? They're all still in business?
Speaker 11 (01:45:52):
Or no, well no I'm not there.
Speaker 9 (01:45:55):
I'm seventy.
Speaker 8 (01:45:55):
Do you have been retired six years?
Speaker 3 (01:45:58):
Good for you?
Speaker 11 (01:45:58):
They sold out the mac guye.
Speaker 8 (01:46:00):
It's Matt High Okay.
Speaker 4 (01:46:01):
I usual commercials for Racy Collins back in the day.
Speaker 3 (01:46:03):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 9 (01:46:05):
I used to see you, you know when you guys
came up.
Speaker 3 (01:46:08):
Yes, many moon back when I was a young pup
in the business. Thank you, Michael for the phone. Appreciate Yeah,
and I inherit to you. That's right, Thanks for bringing
that up. Appreciate it one great.
Speaker 4 (01:46:19):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (01:46:20):
So that so Stephen Huffman called the last segment. Yes,
I believe this is also Stephen Huffman on the Great Moment.
Some from the over the weekend. Let's see the voices match.
He would jump back into the conversation on the phones
out to Huffman, seems with us here on the Astros
tenth Inning show. Wex here with you. What's going on, Steve?
Speaker 8 (01:46:37):
Well?
Speaker 6 (01:46:38):
I like Joe. Okay, he's a nice guy. He's a
good coach. He's not a manager. And I'll tell you
I'm saying this. First of all, Penya had a day
off tomorrow. We needed him to play today. We need
to win this game. Seattle's playing a junior high team tonight.
They're likely going to beat and then game a game,
(01:47:00):
and now it's gonna be two games. Really, that was
It was really a poor decision on Joe's part. You know,
if there wasn't a day off tomorrow, maybe I could
see his reasoning.
Speaker 4 (01:47:12):
But we need him in the lineup.
Speaker 6 (01:47:14):
You know, particularly when this we got what forty nine
forty eight games left. Every one of these games are important,
and Joe treats it like it's spring training at the church.
Speaker 9 (01:47:24):
You know, I.
Speaker 6 (01:47:26):
Don't know what's going on.
Speaker 3 (01:47:30):
I'm actually gonna go and say, all right, thank you.
He just called Stephen Huppen just called that called on
on the weekend, Tuck to wax. What about what spring training.
Speaker 4 (01:47:40):
Game as a church?
Speaker 5 (01:47:41):
When?
Speaker 11 (01:47:41):
Did?
Speaker 4 (01:47:41):
When are the spring training games play the churches?
Speaker 3 (01:47:44):
Are the Astros playing a spring training game at First Baptist?
Speaker 4 (01:47:49):
Oh, come on, Steve guy, I appreciate all of you.
Speaker 3 (01:47:53):
We love all of you.
Speaker 11 (01:47:54):
You know we do.
Speaker 3 (01:47:55):
We only tease because we care.
Speaker 4 (01:47:57):
We love you, love you, We love you, Astro a fan.
Speaker 3 (01:48:05):
The Astros played yesterday with Jeremy Paine and they still lost.
I need I need like a call. I need to
I don't know. No, you don't need moon music. I
need something.
Speaker 6 (01:48:17):
I was just math.
Speaker 3 (01:48:19):
Yeah, I don't know. Whiskey straight bourbon to the dome. No,
you're the only person above the age of nineteen who
would ever order that. Oh, come on, it's delicious, freshing.
Were you with him when the guy was buying shots
for us and then I got made? I was buying shots. Yes,

I'll take a tequila.
Speaker 4 (01:49:08):

Speaker 3 (01:49:09):

the beach drinker to shut up? You too, and you

Speaker 10 (01:49:21):

Speaker 3 (01:49:21):

We have Believe It or Not today coming up at
one fifty one hour from now. By the way, uh
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said in an interview that
he dealt with excuse me, stage four melanoma.
Speaker 4 (01:50:55):
An experienced chriald drug saved his life.
Speaker 8 (01:50:59):
There.
Speaker 3 (01:51:00):
There is a Netflix documentary that is out called America's Team,
The Gambler and His Cowboys, at debuts next week. The
Gambler and His Cowboys mm hmm okay. Jones says he
went underground underwent cancer treatments at MD Anderson here in town.
He did not reveal details of the treatment and what
it was for Quota you said. I was saved by
(01:51:21):
a fabulous treatment and great doctors in a real miracle
drug called PD one therapy. I went into trials for
that PD one and has been one of the great medicines.
I now have no tumors. Jones, telling the Dallas Morning
News that he was diagnosed in June twenty ten and
began treatment soon thereafter. Over the next ten years, he said,
he had two lung surgeries and two lymph node surgeries.
(01:51:44):
Stage four meli noma refers to skin cancer that is
fantastasized to other parts of the body.
Speaker 4 (01:51:49):
Oh wow, God, he really is lucky. I'm gonna tell you,
shout out to you.
Speaker 3 (01:51:57):
M D. Anderson.
Speaker 4 (01:51:57):
Y'all do a great job.
Speaker 3 (01:51:59):
My gosh. I mean I've I've fortunately. I've lived in
three major cities in my life. Uh, and two of
the three have been just phenomenal. What comes to I
lived near close to the Mayo Clinic in minnip It
was in Rochester, which is about an hour and a
half from Minneapolis. A lot of people travel around the world,
and now people come all over the world to come
to empty Anderson. So shout out to them. Mm hmm.
(01:52:21):
Eighty two years old. Good for his life, good for
his well being. But man, he still can't manage a
football team. Yeah, no, sarcastic comments from some of you
Cowboys fans.
Speaker 2 (01:52:33):
None.
Speaker 3 (01:52:35):
Now, what y'all want to say is don't say it.
Exephgarian Spring calls and I probably would say it. Oh
uh seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven ninety James
is whether it's at twelve fifty three? James? What do
you have?
Speaker 9 (01:52:51):
Yeah? Last night during the broadcast, it showed my Or
was working out and he looks like he's ready to
come back, and then they showed uh Roads, I think
it's Or the second basement. He said he is about
ready Rogers Rogers, Yeah, I mean Rogers. Did we even
need Rogers? I mean, is he going to be a
guy that we want to bring back to the team.
(01:53:11):
Is your opinion?
Speaker 11 (01:53:15):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:53:15):
I think he's Yeah. First of all, can't hit, and
his glove wasn't as good as advertised. Frankly, it wasn't bad.
But there's there's no need for him. I would imagine
he's not going to be on the twenty there's not
room for him on the twenty six man. And I
didn't see the video of Myers, but I thought the
last time I had heard anything about Myers he was
in Florida. Yes, he Yeah, last I heard he was
(01:53:38):
in FI.
Speaker 8 (01:53:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:53:39):
I don't think we're I don't think we're going to
see him the next handful of days. I mean, look,
as long as there's a minor league season, these guys
need a couple of games to get back in the
swing of things.
Speaker 9 (01:53:48):
Literally.
Speaker 3 (01:53:50):
Yeah, he's traveling to the Florida Complex League to continue rehab.
That's the last update we got on Monday. Those Florida
Complex League like they're they're dinners at night. I gotta
be great. Yeah, you're doing with that big money. Myer's
doing okay for himself. I mean, mccullars has been down
there a bunch. It's basically it's been a there's been
(01:54:10):
a straight taxi to the Florida Complex League all year long.
It's almost like a retreat. We had it for a
few days. I don't get some R and R. Are
you going, I'm going to the Florida Complex League. Okay,
that's what they're doing, and that's where you learn go
to find your swing too. Like Hose Brady, I wonder why,
and I'm sure it's logistically just a reason that you
wouldn't build something here, do the same exact thing in Houston,
(01:54:33):
Texas and keep the guys here in town.
Speaker 6 (01:54:35):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (01:54:38):
Maybe because you you have more, they have to pay
annual rent on that facility, so you might as well
use it. I don't know. And they have I mean,
they have a bunch of baseball all that baseball equipment
and track man and all that type of stuff all
set up over there. They're not and the Astros, I
mean they're not the only ones that would be a
lot of a lot of teams have these complexes where
they have their spring training to use them for all year.
(01:54:59):
Und just I'll just cure why any team would say,
you know what, run down to West Palm for a
few weeks. Because also there's other teams they can play
against over there, right, Like that's true, That is right,
that's right.
Speaker 4 (01:55:07):
So you've got opponents you can play.
Speaker 3 (01:55:08):
You've got all your your equipment and all your trackmen
and all your training staff and coaches and all that
type of stuff over there. So it's a quick flight.
Speaker 4 (01:55:17):
I mean, it beats the alternative meagums into Peka is
the Matt Thomas Show with ross.
Speaker 3 (01:55:27):
Not that Vegas means much. It just means something. The
new odds are out for who's going to win the
American League. The Seattle Mariners are now the favorites at
plus three fifty, which is three and a half to one.
They're the favorites. The Toronto Blue Jays are plus three
seventy five, which is again, for every hundred you win spend,
(01:55:48):
you get three seventy five back. Detroit is plus four hundred,
the Astros at plus four seventy five, so four four
point seventy five to one, almost five to one, meaning
can they win? The word to win the pennant is
a pennant, right, This is American League penit that's correct?
(01:56:09):
One out of six years? Can they win it all?
Speaker 1 (01:56:16):
See?
Speaker 4 (01:56:16):
I don't even think of it that I think of
it as.
Speaker 3 (01:56:18):
I don't. I don't know how I think of it as.
I think as somebody's got to be the team that
you think has got a better chance than others. That's
how I think of it.
Speaker 8 (01:56:24):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (01:56:25):
I don't usually think of it as it's their turn out.
Speaker 3 (01:56:27):
If it's four to one means winning four out of one,
which means winning one out of five, right, that's twenty percent.
So if they if we simulate this season from this
point on five times, can they win it all once?
If you say yes, then the value is good. I mean,
(01:56:48):
I don't know if the value, if the value be
good or bad. If I was in Lake Charles right now,
I'd probably put fifty dollars on it or something like that.
I wouldn't put a lot, but i'd put something on it,
but little fifty spot on it. Yeah, i'd want to mean,
I don't necessarily need value. If I think my team's
gonna win. I'm still gonna win the money. Yeah, But
it's about equity and odds. It's all, well, we've got
(01:57:11):
is the juice worth the squeeze?
Speaker 8 (01:57:13):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:57:14):
You can put that on a T shirt?
Speaker 6 (01:57:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:57:16):
I think not like that? No, no, no, we're good.
Why why can't you don't like that phrase? It's also
it's a double ontongdre because juice means the what they
charge you for for bets. Oh all right, I was
a hater. No smooth, I like that. We're trying to
get you to learn things here. They call it the
vigorous or the viig or the juice that you have.
(01:57:38):
That's basically how the house wins because all of these
odds in theory are short. The house isn't giving you
fair odds. Nobody. Yeah, there's no one gonna say there's
no book in America's going you know, I need to
give my my people that are potentially betting this fair value.
If they're giving you four to one, they think the
odds are worse. Yeah, they're just the only way. That's
(01:57:59):
how we gave it out. We don't you know, we
we you and I credit on odd board. If you
wanted to, let's do it. But you gotta take bets.
So that's the thing.
Speaker 4 (01:58:06):
Though, they put their money where the mouse is.
Speaker 3 (01:58:08):
You mouth is you show up and say I think
this is good value, they say, okay, you think it's
good value than bet?
Speaker 4 (01:58:13):
Yeah, all right, final hour of the show.
Speaker 3 (01:58:15):
We've got to the Bogus Sevic interview coming up in
a few minutes if you missed that real quick. Texans
are having a kind of like a walk through or
did have a walk through today at Elvert Energy Stadium.
They've got a practice tomorrow with the Carolina Panthers. That's
what they're really getting ready for. So they're gonna go
beat each other up for a day and a half
or so and then uh, and then play the Panthers
in the second preseason game Saturday twelve noon. So there's
(01:58:37):
nothing really new coming out of there today, although we
can cus and discuss if you won't to, we could
discuss and discuss. Then Uh, yeah, I want to talk
about Michael Pennis getting in a fight in the Titans practice.
Falcons Titans practice. You know these I don't want my
quarterback fight. Well, here's the reality. I think these things
are starting to really start to increase in terms of
(01:58:59):
you know, these joint practice and I know who they're doing.
They're trying to do it because they feel like get
more accomplished than just a regular exhibition game where you
don't want to put players out there to get hurt.
Speaker 6 (01:59:08):
Huh.
Speaker 4 (01:59:08):
But it feels like to me, we're getting more and
more fights at these things.
Speaker 9 (01:59:11):
That is it?
Speaker 3 (01:59:12):
Because I feel like there's always been fights, But I
think the heat and the I'm sick and tired of
training camp comes into play and I get to face
somebody else, not need my own teammate. Yeah, so I'm
gonna go scrape with somebody else. That's why there's always
been fights to me in these joint practices. I mean,
I feel like every year you watch hard knocks and
every year there's joint practices, and every year there's fights.
Speaker 4 (01:59:33):
That's why again, Roger Goodell, what are you doing?
Speaker 3 (01:59:35):
You should open these joint practices up to the to
the fans, charge ten dollars, put them in the stadium
and call to day. I think they should let them
fight fifty yard line, make a little circle like hockey.
First one down, you're out, you have no players left. Well,
then they would stop fighting, wouldn't they. M I don't know.
You emotions work differently, that's true. Well them fight you
(01:59:58):
could actually we did it to three minute pause so
we can make odds. We need live odds in the fight.
Speaker 9 (02:00:04):
Is that what?
Speaker 3 (02:00:04):
Wet?
Speaker 9 (02:00:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:00:05):
Okay, make me get down a little parley. I'm taking
I'm taking Daniel Hunter by knockout. Who's the most feared texting?
Speaker 7 (02:00:13):
Is he?
Speaker 3 (02:00:13):
Is he?
Speaker 8 (02:00:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (02:00:17):
Or Will Anderson? But I think Daniel Hunter's a little
bigger right Uh to me, I'm not getting in a
fight with Will Anderson. He's so pleasant. But that's that's
Those are the sneaky ones. Okay, I'm trying not to
make a Joe Mixon joke. By the way, if Joe
Mixon doesn't play in Week one, I want to be
officially known as a Texans insider. Why because I got
(02:00:38):
it right. It was a gut feeling. Put your name
on it. I'll put my name on it. Oh yeah, baby,
don't shake your head, Jonathan.
Speaker 4 (02:00:46):
You know I'm right. I'm writing this down right. You
got pare of pressions it is.
Speaker 3 (02:00:50):
I got him all the time. Yeah, he does all
the time. That's what It's gonna taste. That juice is
gonna be squeezed even sweeter when I'm right. I'm not
saying you're gonna be wrong, But you go to me
into saying something, it's gonna really backfire if I'm wrong
about it. Take your time, Joe. No season was lost
(02:01:14):
after a Week one. Yeah, I would say play it slow.
I would sa wait till the one hundred percent healthy. Absolute.
It's a long season, and he is one of the
back of your not only your offense, but your team.
Speaker 4 (02:01:24):
I got news for you. How the hell they're gonna
carry five running backs?
Speaker 3 (02:01:28):
They can't. They're not going to. So if all five
of the following are healthy, what he marks he's safe,
a Goomble, pretty safe, Pierce Chubb Mixing, Who's who out?
I would say either Chub or Mixing. I mean I'm
(02:01:49):
a chubbed sorry Chubb or Pierce, But that's why Mixing'
if he if he's not even close to one hundred
percent Rossie, he's got to open up the air on
the injury list.
Speaker 4 (02:02:04):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (02:02:07):
This is a sneaky little storyline that I think. I
don't know if it's gotten much attention, if at all.
That would if I was a Texans found I'd be
concerned about because again, part of the reason to keep
your quarterback up right is not him dropping back five
to seven steps and having to worry about his future.
You don't have to worry about your future when you
have a good ground gaming you can hand the ball off. Dude,
somebody twenty twenty five times again, Miko, Ryan's wholeheartedly agrees
(02:02:29):
with you. But do you think about that? And that's
five That's a lot of running backs and a lot
of uncertain that. Goomble has just been a fringe NFL
for down back. I mean, typical thirty does a good job.
I don't think you're dropping a mid round, You're just
drafted him. I mean you could, it wouldn't be unprecedented.
What was it, fifth or fourth round? Mid round, fourth
(02:02:49):
round or so. I don't think you would do that.
I think he's going to be fine. Mixon obviously is
very very much going to be okay unless they ir him,
and then you would be very right.
Speaker 4 (02:03:01):
That's what I want to be called the inside saying
you're crazy.
Speaker 3 (02:03:03):
I'm not saying you're crazy.
Speaker 4 (02:03:05):
I'm just throwing it out there.
Speaker 3 (02:03:06):
Okay. If I'm wrong, you call me the outsider. Okay,
if you call if I'm right, you call me the inside,
which means I get more stories right than the average
insider in this town does.
Speaker 8 (02:03:17):
Okay, all right.
Speaker 3 (02:03:18):
Brian bogus Evic on the astros and what he has
saw last night and what he looks to see the
rest of the way.
Speaker 4 (02:03:25):
We'll talk with him next one to twelve on Sports
Talk seven.
Speaker 3 (02:03:27):
Ninety one, seventeen on Sports Talk seven ninety uh Sophia
Santos is the woman's name, right, Rossie that I was
looking at on Aena Sierra, Sanna Sierra. It doesn't really matter.
Another fine great member of the MLB Network. On air
Talent crew emphasis on fine Brian Bogus evics a fine
analysis for you, sitting network for baseball analysis, of course,
(02:03:51):
and we visit with us every Wednesday here on the
radio program. By the way, Caleb Or's going to join
us in about fifteen minutes here on Sports Talk seven eighty.
But right now here is so what Brian Ross and
I talked about when it came to Spencer Arraghetty in
recapping his second start last night for the Astros and
that big loss unfortunately with the Red Sox.
Speaker 8 (02:04:09):
Yeah, I would say, looking at yesterday and the first start,
even down in Miami, it's a little bit disappointing that
he's not sharper. You know, there was command issues that
kind of ran through both of those starts. From a
stuff standpoint, though, it's pretty encouraging. I mean, the fastball velocity,
the life on the fastball, those are both good. The
(02:04:30):
shape of the breaking ball, the spin of the breaking ball,
that all looks good. So there is reason to be optimistic.
Speaker 11 (02:04:36):
You know.
Speaker 8 (02:04:36):
The first start he got a ton of swings and misses. Yesterday,
even being constantly behind an account, constantly having to deal
with runners on base, he was still able to win
in the strike zone when he was in the strike zone,
So there is a lot to light there. He's just
got to get better command, get all those pitches working.
You know, his repertoire as a whole versus all of
his pitches is kind of being, you know, one individual
(02:04:59):
pitch after another. So yet not as sharp as maybe
we had hoped from a guy who's not coming off
of an arm injury. But he looks a lot like
he did early on in the season last year. He
made a lot of adjustments and was much better late.
Hopefully those same adjustments can happen on a much quicker
timeline this year.
Speaker 3 (02:05:18):
Do you think he's thinking about, Man, I really want
to get back in the groove of these things of
pitching every fifth day. I missed so much time. Oh,
by the way, my squad needs me because I've got
injuries in my bullpen. Now I've got uncertainty of my
starting rotation. I've got Hobber just coming back for personally,
for Spencer, he didn't go through Tommy John. He didn't
(02:05:41):
go through the stuff that makes you miss twelve fourteen,
sixteen months, two years.
Speaker 4 (02:05:45):
What's going through his mind? Do you think for him?
Over the next handful of weeks.
Speaker 8 (02:05:49):
Well, you know, he's been around the team all year,
you know. Besides, you know when he at the end
of the rehead when he goes down to Florida to
get stretched out, so he knows everything that's been going on.
He knows the injuries that have racked up. He knows
that this team has been kind of piecing it together
waiting for everybody.
Speaker 1 (02:06:04):
To get back.
Speaker 8 (02:06:04):
So he understands the deal and the optimism of getting
these guys back, and maybe there's a little bit of pressure.
I think. You know, what we have to remember with
Spencer is that this is only the second year, and
he didn't even get a full season last year at that,
so he's still very early in the learning process. This
was still going to be a big development year for
(02:06:25):
Spencer Araghetti, regardless of getting injured or not. So the
idea that he's just going to come off of a
long layoff and just immediately go in there and just be,
you know, essentially the savior of a rotation, that's pretty unrealistic,
you know, for us to expect from him, from him,
to expect from himself. I think just looking at it
through the lens of what he did last year, and
(02:06:47):
learning things in a given start and applying them into
the next start. If we can see that growth start overstart,
I think by the end of the year, or maybe
even after four or five starts, I think it'll be
the guy that we were hoping to see coming out.
Speaker 1 (02:07:00):
Of the shoots.
Speaker 3 (02:07:01):
Here, Bogie. This Astro's clubhouse, whatever version has been over
the last seven or eight years, has been cool and calm,
never so down when things are down, never so up
when they're on a hot streak. They've seen a ten
game deficit raced. Now in twenty twenty five, they've seen
a seven game lead or race. It's hard to measure
(02:07:21):
what that brahmin of that clubhouse is because it's so
many new guys. But take us through what you think.
The general culture is still without two a in there,
still with a lot of veteran leaders, but yet at
the same time, knowing that the injury buck continues to
hamper this team. And oh, by the way, the team
behind him. The Seattle Mariners haven't lost since I think
the first of the year.
Speaker 8 (02:07:41):
Yeah, I think you know, just the circumstances of the
season have changed, right, Everything is fluid throughout the course
of the season. Sometimes you're the team getting healthy, sometimes
you're the team getting hurt. Sometimes you're chasing, sometimes you're
being chased. And you know, it sounds so cliche that
the one game at a time type of thing, but
you can't get through one hundred and sixty two games
(02:08:01):
thinking about a big picture constantly, and you can't get through,
you know, a decade of seasons like a guy like
jose L two. They are some of these veterans by
constantly being big picture oriented because it's overwhelming. So if
you're going to have a mindset when you know you're
chasing somebody in the standings of hey, we just got
to go out there, win a game, win a series,
(02:08:22):
you're going to apply that same thing when it's the
other way around and you're the team that was out
in the league that has now been chased down because
there's really nothing else you can do can do. You
can go out there and you can worry about what's
it going to look like the next you know, forty
plus games, who are we playing in the upcoming week,
who are the Mariners playing? None of that matters, And
to get to the success level that these guys have
(02:08:42):
gotten to, they know how to compartmentalize those things. They
know how to stay focused on the day to day
stuff because that's the stuff that really matters. So when
it's going good or going bad, it really is the
same mindset regardless. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:08:56):
That so we have fans and media of course are
hanging more on every pitch and every game and the
results of that. But you don't think that's necessarily bleeding
into the batter's boxer in the field, No way.
Speaker 8 (02:09:07):
I mean, it's the same thing whether whether you're you're
you know, got a twenty game hitting streak or you're
in a long slump. You're going there, you're getting your
work in, you're game planning, you're going through scouting reports,
you're doing it's all about the preparation, and then you
go out there and just play. And once you're out
there and just playing, what happened yesterday of the last
ten days or what's going to happen, you know, ten
days from now, it really doesn't matter, And it can't
(02:09:30):
matter because you know, you've got enough to worry about
when you're standing out there in the batterspox.
Speaker 3 (02:09:34):
Brian Bogasvik whether us here on Sports Talk seven ninety
why has Carlos Curray been so good at the plate
back in a Nastros uniform.
Speaker 8 (02:09:43):
You know, when you hear Carlos talk about hitting, he's
very rarely talking about mechanics, and he's always talking about approach, approach, approach, approach,
having an approach for a pitch, for a bat, for
a game, for a one on one matchup, or even
the team. And you know, kind of the definition of
approach in my book is what are you doing to
(02:10:03):
tip the scales in your favor?
Speaker 3 (02:10:05):
Because the batter.
Speaker 8 (02:10:07):
Pitcher matchup, everything favors the pitcher. It's an impossible thing
to do, you know, hitting a baseball in general, the
fielders are so good, So how can you go out there?
You know, take into account what the picture's repertoire is,
take into account the game situation where the defense is playing,
what that picture's out pitches. You know, how do you
factor all of those things in to give yourself a
better chance.
Speaker 3 (02:10:27):
And when you watch.
Speaker 8 (02:10:28):
Carlos go out there and early on in the count,
he's obviously hunting pitches, looking for something that he can drive,
something that he can do damage on. Later in the count,
he'll try to take away a pitcher's best pitch and
not give them that put away two strike pitch he'll
shorten up and a pitch that maybe takes the big
swing at in a one to zero count, he'll just
kind of punch to right field in a two strike count.
(02:10:49):
So watching him go out there and just execute and
just really fight tooth and nail on every single pitch,
you can really appreciate how he gets to the results
where we look up after, you know whatever, it's been
ten twelve games and the numbers have been really good,
and I think that is going to start to bleed
over into some of the younger players and just the
(02:11:10):
team as a whole, and just trying to have those
really drawn out, knockout, drag out type of that bats
ball game.
Speaker 3 (02:11:16):
We were looking at MLB Network in our studio here
just a minute ago, and they just went through the
lineup one through nine for the Mariners. Eight of their
nine batters have an OPS plus right now of one
hundred plus. That sadly cannot be said for the local nine,
although there are numbers that are improving, Christian Walker being
one of them. How are you going to outslug the
(02:11:38):
Seattle Mariners to this fight of the finish in the
very last forty games or so of the season, Well,
I think we're.
Speaker 8 (02:11:45):
Going to see, you know, the last six eight weeks
of the season. Whatever it is, it's a different version
of this team. It's different guys in general. When you
look post trade deadline, it's different versions of a guy
like Christian Walker who finally looks settled in, you know,
knocked on wood. If Jordin gets back, that changes everything.
So I don't think you have to look at it
(02:12:07):
from a big picture number standpoint. Can they hit with
the Mariners, Yeah they can, and the the end of
the year numbers might not show it. But but I
think this is going to be a lineup and they're
gonna have to because you know, the injuries are not
going away. When you look at what's going on with
Josh Hader, They're going to have to score runs to
win games. And now you know, there's a lot more
(02:12:27):
length in the lineup. There's a lot more guys that
can can can hurt you in the lineup, and there's
a lot of guys who aren't necessarily feeling the pressure
of being the one or two guys that it's going
to have to be them on any given day. Otherwise
there's not going to be anybody.
Speaker 3 (02:12:40):
Else to do it if Jordan does not come back.
Forgetting about the offense, what's the best Astros? I guess
combined defense and offense outfield? Do you see the rest
of the way for the Houston Astros.
Speaker 8 (02:12:53):
In the outfield? I think it's probably you know, we'll, we'll, we'll,
we'll leave out the fact that of does Jake Myers
come back or not. Hopefully he does soon, but right
now it's probably a platoon in center field, Trammel and
Chaz if he can get it going a little bit,
which it looks like maybe he's gotten it going just
a little bit. You know, Cam Smith is your right fielder,
(02:13:15):
Jesus Sanchez in left field if you want to try
to work not I wouldn't say a platoon, but piecing
together if you want to try to hide Cam from
a tough rioting and move Sanchez into right field. But
it's some combination of those two guys in the corner
and then you know, mixing al twove in there if
need be.
Speaker 3 (02:13:33):
Do you like this real quick?
Speaker 8 (02:13:35):
Do you like this?
Speaker 4 (02:13:36):
Or I like five game league?
Speaker 2 (02:13:38):
Guy?
Speaker 3 (02:13:38):
My partner over here to my right loves the anticipation
of this being playoff time starting right now.
Speaker 4 (02:13:43):
Where are you on what we have seen?
Speaker 3 (02:13:45):
Because the Mariners don't lose and the Astros are playing
a little bit under five hundred these days.
Speaker 8 (02:13:50):
Yeah, as a fan, I'm excited. I'm excited for a
lot of meaningful baseball. I'm excited for a lot of
you know, high energy games coming down the stretch. As
as a player and as a guy, you know, watching
a team that he knows wants to make a deep
playoff run, it would be really nice to have the
last week or so of the season be sign field
and delivered and you start to kind of line things
(02:14:12):
up for the for the postseason. But no, as a fan,
you know there there's nothing better than.
Speaker 3 (02:14:20):
Nothing better than what did he say, finish it off?
Play a match game, nothing better than a pennant race,
I think, and you know what it is. Honestly, we're
in the playoffs. The playoffs have started today. Can a
team go a month and a half of playoffs? Because
that's what the Astros and a Mariners are about to
do here with the last forty or so games left
to go. Caleb Ward's gonna be a huge part of that.
(02:14:42):
I believe we'll hear from him next. As a Matt
Thomas show, Ross continues in a moment seven to one
three two one two five seven on ey the number
you will use to play Believe it or not, a
lot of folks are calling in and still commimenting and
(02:15:04):
commenting on our Twitter account about Billy Wyner getting out
of retirement. Apparently b boiles O six says, Brad Dge

Speaker 7 (02:15:31):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (02:15:32):
I got one from.
Speaker 3 (02:15:35):
Daniel says, can we see what Mike Gallo and Brandon
Puffer are up to?
Speaker 4 (02:15:40):
Tesla bus drivers?
Speaker 2 (02:15:41):
Is?
Speaker 5 (02:15:41):
Why not?
Speaker 3 (02:15:41):
Nolan Ryan and h our H says? Is it possible
to bring back j R? Richard from the dead? God
blessed y'all? What is wrong with y'all? What is wrong
with you? Let's talk to Let's get let's get some
sanity on this round. Okay, let's do it. Last seven
appearances for our next guest, six and a third innings,
(02:16:05):
two hits, Yes, no runs, Let's go seven strikeouts. That's
what I'm talking about. No era, none zero, no earned runs,
Caleb Ort, you are not allowed to give up another
earn run the rest of the season. Can you handle
such responsibility?
Speaker 1 (02:16:21):
I mean I would love that, So I'm in Seriously.
Speaker 3 (02:16:23):
We need you, dude. This city needs championships. It's on
your shoulder. You cannot. First of all, you cannot get hurt.
You're the only one I hadn't got hurt lately.
Speaker 4 (02:16:32):
Number two, we need a zero er, can you You've
got a lot of pressure on you. Are you will accepted?
Speaker 1 (02:16:38):
Hey, that's that's the plan. I think that's that's all
of our plan. You know, go out there and all
of us just keep doing our job, and I think
it's gonna work out just far.
Speaker 4 (02:16:47):
Yeah, for sure, Caleb, it's Matt Ross.
Speaker 3 (02:16:48):
Thank you for joining us for a few minutes on
the show today.
Speaker 4 (02:16:51):
Are you ready for this?
Speaker 3 (02:16:52):
I mean, look, I know that seven game leads are
wonderful in the American League playoffs and metal of the cases,
but regressing can certainly happen.
Speaker 5 (02:16:59):
It.
Speaker 3 (02:17:00):
It feels like to me, we were just talking about
this before. The playoffs don't officially start till the end
of September. But it kind of feels like a full
on Pennant race right now between you and the MS.
Speaker 1 (02:17:11):
Yeah, I mean I think, yeah, you're not wrong. Everybody
kind of feels good. I think, you know, it's good
energy and every day we're showing up and there's no
letting off the prottle at this point. So yeah, it
feels like we're already there, so just keep going from here.
Speaker 3 (02:17:27):
Obviously, in an organization that has been through these types
of battles before, and you've been around a couple of years,
what it's just like, is it business as usual in
the clubhouse for everybody, or maybe a little bit more
chatter about the race and some scoreboard watching.
Speaker 1 (02:17:43):
I mean maybe a little bit, yeah, But for the
most part, it's the same old, same old every day.
You know, we come in, all the guys are this.
You know, we're tight group here, So it doesn't seem
like a whole lot changes. Obviously, you know, we're paying
attention to the paying attention to the race a little more,
but I don't think it takes away from just us
being a tight group all day together and you know,
(02:18:06):
doing the same thing that we normally do.
Speaker 3 (02:18:09):
Visiting with Caleb board here on the radio program. A
different clubhouse for you after spending your first few seasons
as of Boston Red Sox. What's the adjustment Liken this
year two of that new clubhouse significantly easier to kind
of get acclimated of things and the lifestyle is compared
to when you're bringing new with a baseball team.
Speaker 1 (02:18:30):
It wasn't really a whole lot to adjust at all here.
I was welcomed with open arms last year, all the
older Vets that were here last year. I mean there
was no there's no like wall to climb over to
get through with anybody that I was welcomed immediately and
you know, expected to perform right away. It's just who
(02:18:51):
this club is and you know, winning team and that's
what we are. Was chasing the championships here, it seems like,
so there's no like, yeah, they're just welcomed and expected
to perform and everybody wants you to do the best.
So it was pretty easy to come into this clubhouse
and just get along with everybody.
Speaker 3 (02:19:09):
What has it been like for you? Of course you
injured at the start of the season, but also kind
of just hanging around and seeing everybody kind of go down.
What is it like for you mentally, like you just
try to stay tunneled and focused on yourself, or like
you look around and there's just been so many different
injuries going around on this team. Does it creep into
your mind like I need to do better at this
(02:19:31):
or that to try and stay healthy or is it
just something you try to put out of your mind.
Speaker 1 (02:19:36):
Yeah, no, I don't. I don't think any of you know,
anybody that's not hurt right now is thinking about that.
Like you said, I was. You know, I got hurt
in the spring pretty dang quick. This is the spring,
so like, you know, I know what it was like
to go through that, and you know, just keeping a
positive attitude mentality about it at all times is obviously
the best thing to do. But I'm not. I'm not
(02:19:57):
sitting here thinking I could do this or do that better.
Speaker 5 (02:19:59):
You know.
Speaker 1 (02:19:59):
Like what I'm doing is what I'm doing, and I'm
doing everything I tend to stay healthy. And I think
everybody in here is they you know, everybody's got their
routines and arm care and everything that they're going through.
And you know, if somebody goes down, it's it's gonna happen,
you know, it's a sport. You throw a lot, you
play a lot, there's a lot of games, and it's
bound to happen eventually. So if it's gonna happen, it's
(02:20:21):
gonna happen. The last thing I'm gonna sit here and
do is overthink it and you know, try to get
all stressed and tense about it, like there's no reason
for that.
Speaker 3 (02:20:28):
So no, you can't for sure thirty you'll be in
your thirty ninth game the next time you pitch. Any
advice from Feller relievers you've gotten over over the last
few years about what it's like to get this deep
into the season, this many appearances, and just to make
yourself make sure your arm is as physically as great
as possible at this point.
Speaker 1 (02:20:49):
Yeah, I mean guys last year, Guys this year. I
mean Josh specifically too, Like you know, he's been around,
he's been in deep runs before. You know, Presley was
here last year. We talked to him. Guys like that,
I mean, they're they're always just telling you, basically take
care of yourself. Like every week, every guy's gold got
(02:21:09):
something different to do. Not every guy's going to do
the same thing, but you just do what you can
to recover every night, you know, you got twenty four
hours almost like, do whatever you can to recover and
get back and tell them back on the workouts if
you need to, and just be able to pitch the
next night, because I mean, it's all hands on deck
right now until whenever we're done, you know, so there's
(02:21:32):
no no slowing down, and you back off on unnecessary
things and keep yourself healthy that leak you can keep pitching,
all right.
Speaker 3 (02:21:38):
Who's the weirdest left handed reliever in the Astros bullpen?
Speaker 1 (02:21:42):
All of them? All lees are weird.
Speaker 3 (02:21:45):
Because we tease about the fact that sometimes you don't
have any left is you got like a half dozen
back there? What makes them a little quirkier than the
average pitcher that you run into, You.
Speaker 1 (02:21:56):
Know, I don't, I don't really know, but around I
feel like, you know, it's just always been a thing
left these are a little a little bit weirder. I
don't know why. I can't explain it. It just seems
like that's always been a thing, no matter what team,
wherever it's it's like a league wide thing.
Speaker 3 (02:22:11):
I feel like I don't disagree with you. Last thing.
I'll let you're on give me your best conversation of
the bullpen fifthening of a game. You're not throwing yet,
not warming up, just kind of hanging out there. What
what are topics of discussion of the day per se.
Speaker 9 (02:22:26):
Man?
Speaker 1 (02:22:27):
I mean it could be anything. I mean you could
sit there talk about being on a lake, fishing, hanging out,
just chilling on a pontoon, or you could be talking
about how much was here in the day before. I mean,
it goes from onfield off field. Yeah, there's just a
lot of random conversations. It's definitely not anything specific, that's
(02:22:49):
for sure.
Speaker 3 (02:22:50):
How about the women on the MLB network? Has it
ever come up and play what the women on the
MLB network? Do you ever watch that channel?
Speaker 1 (02:22:59):
I do not want?
Speaker 3 (02:23:00):
Oh okay, well, smart answer. That's probably a very smart answer, Caleb.
I want to just get make sure you're all your
bas to cover on that. Hey, uh, thank you for
the time. Congratulations, you're great season so far. Keep it going,
like I said, bubble wrape yourself whatever it has to be,
because we need you all the way to the end
of the season. All right, man, thank you, Kelly, appreciate it.
Caleb board with us here on the Matt Thomas Show
(02:23:22):

Speaker 4 (02:23:32):
What if you and Iron in the outfield, just sitting
there in the bullpen will be talk me.
Speaker 3 (02:23:36):
We bes during breaks? What are you talking about?
Speaker 6 (02:23:38):
You know?
Speaker 3 (02:23:39):
What are you talking about? I was trying to loosen
him up a little bit. Okay, that's all I was
just trying to do, Caleb, it's all about business. Strikeouts, baby,
I'd rather him be serious as a heart attack. But
hopefully Gary Spring doesn't get dang bringing up, and if
he does, hope he gets decent medical care. But if
you doesn't, it's no you know, this is what it is. Oh,
(02:24:05):
I'm done with you.
Speaker 4 (02:24:08):
I'm not leaving you.
Speaker 3 (02:24:09):

How much?
Speaker 8 (02:24:19):

Speaker 4 (02:24:20):
Four billion dollars? A little over four billion is what's
been reported, So who knows?
Speaker 3 (02:24:24):
Let me ask you this. When you when Paul Allen's
family gets the check, is it literally a check for
four billion dollars? Is it literally that amount of cash?
I mean, who has that just lying around? Nobody has
it lying around? It's an assets. I imagine they acquire
a loan and then whoever, like uh, like when somebody
buys your house, you get it from the mortgage coming.
(02:24:47):
But you do get that check. Yeah, pays it off.
That's that's a good looking check. Like what bank's cutting
the check for four billy? All of them? I love
a photo. I'd love a photo of that. Oh, it's
probably it's a big check. Sure, like you're a publisher's clearinghouse. Exactly.
Come with They come with a bunch of balloons and stuff.
