Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Turn on one of its town Good morning and welcome
do a Tuesday edition of The Matt Thommas Show a Ross.
This is Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Here's the three too it well again, this one to right.
Phil cam Smith back in. That one's gone. He kept
this one fair and it's one nothing Detroit.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
I had that.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
Joke on to.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Oh My Bed Live and Love deeps. I had him blue,
so trenal for two.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
First pitch and Green hits this in the year pretty
deep to right. Smith is back and he will watch
that one go Riley Green with a two run homer,
and just like that, it is five nothing Tigers.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
One out mid on first and second.
Speaker 5 (01:25):
It's a two two count to Sweney.
Speaker 6 (01:28):
Here's the pitch and that's driven to right field. That
goes Smith. He looks up and it's ten rows d
Sweeney goes deep.
Speaker 5 (01:36):
That's a three run homer for Detroit.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
Man's rise to their feet. First pitched, he has hits
it in the air, shallow rights center going out, Torres
coming in, Jones and the right fielder Perez and his
paris who makes the.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Catch, and that is the ballgame.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
Astro shut out for a third time in the last
four days, as the Tigers beat him ten nothing. Astros
haven't scored in their last eighteen innings, so.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
This is an old timer. And then I thought about Ross.
We're playing a song for about a guy who's now
being accused of sexually molesting his mates. Oh yeah, I
forget about that. Can we not have just normal say
in America in twenty twenty five? Come on, now, I
forgot about that. They support the arts, not the artist.
(02:36):
Matt Yeah, I've got a lot of guy Michael Jackson
sirk to slay in Vegas a few years back, and
I guess it was fantastic and his music's amazing. Just
he had a dark and creepy life. Well I think
they were lying on him personally on that one, but anyways,
that's another story for another time. Well, hopefully the things
about smoke here and are accurate either. But apparently his
(02:57):
wife's involved in the mix too. She was completely complicit.
Excuse me, maybe complacent and complicit. Yeah, I guess.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
All right.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Anyways, about the Masstros baby Hello, all right runs in
eighteen innings and Derek Scoople on the Mountain today, don't
say how we feeling, don't do it. We feel, don't
you I asked you not to do it, just wondering,
you know what, just asking Jonathan get the Ao song.
Ridyboy's requesting for Aos literally is to start the show. Well,
(03:33):
I mean we got to get him out. It's not
a matter of if it well, Lord, yeah, I mean,
I gotta do what the people ask menw they want
as I gotta give him Ao's right. You gotta do
what you gotta.
Speaker 7 (03:45):
Know.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
You're supposed to program the show, Matt, sorry for the listeners,
although you need to program it for the listeners, which
you do a great jow. Thank you very much. I
appreciate that, all right, God was it ugly? And then
the power went out here we got lightning strikes. I
was worried about you. You you were. I didn't get
struck by lightning, no, but I was very I didn't
want you a monologue for like thirty minutes. I did
(04:06):
monologue for a while we were off air. Oh you did.
I had this beautiful, eloquent, flowery poetic opening about the
peaks and valleys in life, and the peaks and valleys
in one hundred and sixty two game season. Yeah, and
I tied it all together beautifully with the intro of
the show, and then Josh goes, you're off air because
I was listening on the iHeartRadio. A yeah, we went
(04:27):
to fun. We were in Fox Radio nothing, and then
you heard two commercials going at the same time, like,
oh hell, something's going wrong over there. I mean, we've
had producers that are bad like that, but not currently,
of course, not currently. Jonathan has a double source in
many moons. He's doing great. I've asked for aos and
he's looking forward. It is right, there's waiting for you.
(04:48):
Let's do it. Thirteen hours ago. Astros Twitter Tigers ten
Astros nothing, one hundred and nine retweets, two hundred and
fifty five likes in seven There's also there's also a
tweet at sports sports Talk seven ninety put out about
improving the uh my offense, which has a lot of responses.
(05:09):
If you want to check that one out, here we go, hey.
Speaker 8 (05:12):
Oh, let's go, hey oh, let's go astros over reaction
right here in seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
I didn't even looked at these. I don't. Oh, we
gotta fire a spot a picture that's at the pac Man. Okay,
uh JFC Chas is now in our starting rotation. Uh
at FCBM eight eighty five spot is on a winning manager.
I don't care what anyone says. Uh uh, let's see here.
(05:49):
Doctor Karen says she switched to the Phillies game. It
was more fun to watch. I thought the Astros played today.
Seems like I was watching a rerun of yesterday's game,
except there was a different team. Navid Moran forty eight.
He's sus Sanchez now a nifty zero for his last
twenty four. Oh my god, that guy's muted. He's worse.
(06:10):
Let's see, uh looking here, embarrassing, says Rocket E. Nbncn
AT Astros fan Tuoa one called the triple A guy's backup.
This major league roster needs a boost. Oh my god.
By the way, Logan van Way has been called up.
Oh yeah, so we're all good. I'll read you something
from these What can the Instros do to get the
(06:30):
bats going again? Sim Cam and Mountain to triple A
bench Sanchez. Okay, if you send Cam Smith and Jacob
Melton triple A and Ben Santia playing who was on
the team two outfielders who's on the team. Don't use
jiner As DH. He's not a great catcher. Why wouldn't
you use him at DH? Dana blew it with a
(06:53):
bad trade period and didn't get a picture. The ship
is sinking. Crane should fire a spot and Dana to
shake things up and salvages season. This is brilliancies from
these people speaking of did you say Facebook or where
would you first? This is on Sports Talk seven nineties Twitter.
Our good friend Chris Gordy put the Astros have been
shut out in three the last four games. What can
they do to get the offense going again? It's got
(07:14):
ninety five replies. There's a pick of yord On. That's funny.
Somebody said start the twenty twenty sixth season. Oh that's
so I went to the Facebook page. Afo Leoko says,
force the pitchers to actually hitters, to actually take pitches.
I swear this team swings at nearly every pitch. First
a BA the game, folks, Jeremy Page, it took strike
(07:36):
one and two down the pipe. He's down zero to two.
It's not that easy. This is not high school. Whereas
the year your high school coach tells you to take
a couple of pitches because you got a fifty to
fifty shot of them throwing a ball. Yeah, it's not.
It's major leagues, folks, Major League Baseball. The funniest thing
I saw last night was on our Facebook page, same question,
(07:56):
how do you improve the Astros? Actually that guy got
a point, but go ahead, he said, for those of
you not paying attention, which is apparently Sports Talk seven pointy.
Isn't there a stomach bug going around the clubhouse right now?
Of course nobody stops to think about that. Let's see
one of you go to work and perform one hundred
percent when you've got the blanks. I honestly laughed. Honestly,
(08:18):
I'm kind of buying into that. Jeremy Panna was sick,
Christian Haavier has an illness. The whole team's got the runs,
and that's why they're not getting runs. Well, wouldn't that
make them faster on the base pack? The runs are
going to the playoffs? I mean into the bathroom. I
(08:38):
don't know, Matt, this is upsetting. Are fire Dana Brown
score points? That's funny, all right? I imagine they're Troy
a couple more here still in first Lol. That's from
Texan two step seventy three. Oh now, everybody's got the
revisionist history that they should have traded against Arroghetty for cease.
(09:00):
Arragatty is under team control until twenty twenty nine. Dylan
sees is a rental. I gotta have a shut your
bum ass up on a Tuesday at Jelly Astro's poverty team.
Oh no, now they're not a okay, two World Series
since twenty seventeen is not poverty franchise. Shut your bum
ass up and getting angry?
Speaker 7 (09:20):
Now?
Speaker 2 (09:21):
When can we dfa Aspata and Centron firing the hitting
coach fire, the hitting coach fire. Joe got tickets to
the wrong park zoo trip tomorrow. Since all of you
want to watch Tigers on the basis crazy what happens
when you don't play a little league ballpark. That's from
(09:41):
a Tigers fan. Good god, David Ran, your buddy. I
can't wait to see the postgame presser war. As Spota says,
he loves how his guys are battling when it's obvious
as hell they're mailing it in with almost every inning
being under ten pitches. That dude, maybe it doesn't even
be more muted. Why I can just do it? Please?
(10:01):
For for my man, I'm asking you to do me
a favor. Man, I don't ask a lot of you.
You do actually quite a bit, No, I don't. Okay,
we meet that guy. So I hear Houston Sports musas
sell the person as a miserable human being. Maybe he's
he's very affable, maybe he's got a family. So I
think a lot of these people are miserable human beings.
That's a but that's another discussion for another time, unless
you want to have it right now. One more. I
(10:22):
wish we could say suck, but that would mean we
were doing something that makes much sense. Sucking is something men. Thompson,
keep up the good work guy. So it's Thomson with
the zero, not the real men Thompson. Oh that's not
the real Thompson isn't getting in the mention of the
Houston As again. Massive shout out to c J. Stroud.
The Mariners are zero and three. Yeah you should be
(10:44):
thanking CJ.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
You, c J.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
Stroud, thanks many blessing, Thank you.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
Farmer.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
You know Farmer's on tweeting a handful of days. Well
that's maybe that's a good sign. I started twitter a
Keby's been horrible. I gotta get those notifications out. Although
it's a quality starter Friday as I called, and not
quality defense, quality start though not quality a backup job,
quality quality start quality thrown say he was gonna have
quality defense. You had never heard me say he's gonna
(11:10):
have quality defense. Let's go hey out, Let's go astros
over reaction. You just heard it on seven ninety All
right to a rip royan start here gang um, Okay,
you intimately watched the game because you were doing the
tenth inning show? Did I miss it? I mean I
(11:32):
was in and honestly miss anything.
Speaker 9 (11:34):
I was.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
Eric Getty got out of a bases loaded jam early.
There was a bunch of people like they're not even trying,
they don't even care. Jacob Mountains like flying around center field,
calls Korea had a nice play that he managed just
to double play. Yeah, six out of your nine starters
went over at the plate. Everybody was upset that Hay
(11:56):
Sus Sanchez was bat and clean up instead of Christian Walker.
I can probably dig into that. I think the Hey
Sus Sanchez upper half of the line of bitest kind
of fires. But then they if you wanted Christian Walker,
They're like he's on a oh for twenty one. Christian
Walker was like on a one for fifteen. Yeah, right,
he's on eight straight games. He's not had a home run,
so a hit. Yeah, uh now I'm talking about Walker
(12:16):
at home runs, a home run or anything. Okay Walker,
So yeah, Walker was on a one for fifteen. And
Sanchez has better ops numbers against righteyes than Christian Walker
does easy, So that's that's that, and it doesn't It
didn't matter. Carotene's not been great. Yanerdy is what O
for Cam Smith Melton? So yeah, I understand being like, hey,
Sue Sanchez is not a cleanup hitter. No he's not.
(12:37):
But nobody was hitting. They got they They've been shut
out in three of their last four games, so it
doesn't matter whichever way you want to shuffle the deck.
So that was the only time I was getting angry
at somebody because he was being so smug about it.
The guy was yeah, it was yeah, anyways, it's fine,
We've played it. It's fine. It's fine. Is gonna be
(12:58):
the mantra noth in the last two games Deep breath,
Deep breath Astra fans remember the you know I felt
bad for was Robert Ford last night Why you know
he does is the game recap and they only play
positive highlights. Well, you had a couple of defensive plays,
like I said, he didn't play them though, he just monologued.
(13:19):
I didn't notice that. Yeah, he monologued, which is you
know when the look when the Rockets get their butts beat.
Unfortunately it happens. We do play a couple of amazing
playsmenter side, because it's the game story. No, but they
don't get you don't get shut out in basketball, thankfully. Yeah,
that's true. There are some There are some calls like
I was pretty amazing and in one of the games
when the Rockets, like four years ago, had Christiano was
(13:41):
their best player, and then we're getting beat by forty
Oklahoma City, we play a Christian Wood highlight. Rockets down
thirty one, three oh nine left to go in the third.
It happens. All right, let's get after it. You guys
need to talk it out. We're here for you. We
are your therapist. Need a therapist, You get two therapists
for the price of zero. We didn't even try. Do
you to come in and be a what do you
(14:01):
all mean? What's your cope? Hmmm? We could really you
know we could do. Let's try the next segment here
of the show in a therapist's voice. I think everybody
kind of knows what therapist's voice. So how about we
get I think you should let it all out for
a couple segments, and then we do we do soothing. Okay,
So what do you think you want to do right now?
You want to as angry as you get, Yes, fire
and Brimstone for a couple segments, but then we need
(14:24):
to chill o. Okay, all right, we'll rows because you
need to release and confront these emotions, Matt. Okay, so
we're gonna back haul the cathartic part fire in Brimstone.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
Right.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
If you don't have fire and Brimstone right now for
the local nine, we don't want to hear from you.
If you do have fire and Brimstone and you're completely irrational,
you are welcome to call seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven nintie, All right, next two segments, Fire and Brimstone.
I mean, you gotta be mad, you gotta be a
(15:00):
you have to be basically a tenth inning caller. And
then we are going to so you're saying this is
how this effectiveness goes in the therapy world. I don't know. Well,
I mean, it's it doesn't sounds reasonable. I was going
to try to calm the waters down, but we're gonna
incite people in the next minutes. You can let it
all out and then we can we can calm down.
You know, peaks and valleys, Matt, I don't know. Okay,
(15:24):
but you don't have to come. You don't have to scream.
Most everybody was pretty chill in the post game last night.
I was actually shocked. I only had one bad caller.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
It was you.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
No, it's funny. You were struggling for calls until I
called in and the show had just started and I
had somebody on hold. Go ask Josh c how the
impact of me being on the tent shows. That's because
you beg for callers harder than anybody. I love that,
you know why, because it's a it's a tenth inning show.
I'm not gonna sit there in monologue for half an
(15:52):
hour if you go. If we don't talk, ask for baseball,
I'm gonna go to night night. I'll watch Lauren shot
in his black Scott turned this off. You we have
lost you for the show. My lord God, black leather
skirt is not fair for Matthew by the way I
got I'm trying to get him focused. Here, folks, are
you ready for this? I'm not. I got sent to
me from one of my childhood friends, you know, my
(16:13):
buddy ed Yes photo on Instagram of Tiffany Amber Theiesan
eating a piece of cake completely naked. Yeah, how was
I supposed to How was I supposed to watch the
rest of the game with that in front of me?
I'm trying to figure out the connection your brain made
(16:34):
to feel the need to say that on air. You
want to see it? Let you No, I don't want to.
You don't think a hot woman eating a piece of
cake is something worth discussing, right, But we came back.
We're talking about astros here. Look at this. She's wearing clothes?
Speaker 10 (16:54):
Is this ai?
Speaker 2 (16:56):
No, she got the cake in front of her. Tell
me that's not she's wearing clothes. Oh, no, she's not.
Your microphone is covering your phone. I'm sorry. The cakes
behind it. Oh it looked like she was wearing a dress. Yeah,
she's not Tiffany, and she could be wearing a bikini.
I mean, I don't care. She is an All timer,
(17:17):
she's number one and number one, number two in the list.
She how he moving up that ranks and ranking? So who? Okay?
So the Astros fell ten nothing, fire and brimstone.
Speaker 4 (17:29):
Here we go.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
If you're a rational phone caller, save it to ten fifty.
If you're completely rational and absurd and want to fire everybody,
let's go to the phones and talk to people. We'll
start with Matt on seven and onety.
Speaker 11 (17:41):
I'm Matt, Guys, I hate that I first because honestly,
I don't have fire and brimstone for you.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
That's actually maybe I'm happy.
Speaker 11 (17:50):
Maybe with a little reason, a little perspective on on
this team. I gotta say, coming into this season, I
didn't expect much from this group with all the play
that they lost, and it's to me incredible that at
this point of the season there's somehow still a game
and a half in first place. And I remember getting
to the All Star break when they were like twenty
(18:12):
games over five hundred, just texting people friends of mine
and watched the strows and just saying, how are they
winning these games? Because you look at the guys that
are running out there and it's just not adding up.
And so for half the season, I think they overperform,
and now for about a month we've been on the
opposite end of the spectrum. But I called to say,
(18:34):
I don't think they're as good as we saw for
the first half of the season, and I don't think
they're as bad as we're seeing right now. They're somewhere
in the middle, and I think what we're witnessing is
water finding its level with this group. But I mean,
I look at the lineup last night and after Altuve,
it's just not that good. I mean, they're about three
(18:55):
guys deep the starting staff. You've got two proven guys
you can count on. Everybody else is either working back
from injury or somebody we had never heard of until
this year. And the bullpen is just decimated. You've got
one guy with a track record right now, a bray
You and other guys that we're finding out what they
are right now. But I think at the end of
(19:15):
the day, if this group can make the playoffs win
the division, that's great. But my eyes are on just
making the playoffs, and if they don't, you know, it's
kind of what I expected going in. Thanks for taking
my call.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
Thank you, Matt. That was level headed. I hated that call.
That was thoughtful. Uh huh, that was not over analytical.
That wouldn't fire anybody. What does that we're talking about here?
Come on that. It didn't make me feel good about
the team though. By the way, Taylor Scott, I mean,
my god, all Joe Spot has said to you is
please go ea innings. We've got nobody, no high leverage guys,
(19:52):
Please go evenings and try to keep things close. One
in two thirds, five hits, five runs, two walls, one strankout,
and two home run surrendered. He's hiding homage to the station.
Speaker 12 (20:06):
You know what.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
He was so sertling when he was with us that
one year. It's almost like it's a curse. You see
his era seven ninety. We don't want pictures having that era.
We would like to see batting averages there. I would
take an ops and be very happy. Slug would be amazing.
Era is not what I'm looking for. Great, Well, the
(20:32):
good news is you were on the road, so you
didn't have to piece together a ninth inning of pitching.
You only had to get eight, and Chaz took one
of those. I mean tattooing is a strong term. They
were tattooing him. He's gonna be released from three He's
gonna release three times in one season, twice by one team.
(20:53):
Tanner Scot's not long for this team. No, he's not
long for the major league. No, he's long for the
Savannah Bananas. We're not doing I just don't get it
this week. Okay, I just don't get the bananas. And
we've been there, We've done that already. Wait, okay, I
just wanted to make sure I was not. But he
can still, he can continue to not get it. I
understand they wrong under day and I get that. You
don't get it. Do you get it? I get that
(21:15):
you don't get it? Do you get it?
Speaker 13 (21:16):
No?
Speaker 2 (21:16):
I don't get it. I mean it's I mean, I
guess I kind of get it. Kids like it, and
that's well, I mean, it's basically when I was a kid,
I loved the Harlem Globe trying. So maybe it's just
a baseball version on him. I didn't realize it demonstrated
such emotion from you seven one, three, two, one two
(21:37):
five seven any more irrational phone callers. And then, Jonathan,
You've got twenty minutes to find us a I'll find it, okay,
a cathartic yeah song you'd have while you're to get
the music while getting a massagine? No, like, yeah, we
got it, okay, okay, we're not giving massages on the
massages all the time.
Speaker 14 (21:54):
You're an athlete, right, well, I get you get rolled out.
I guess, excuse me what you get rolled out?
Speaker 2 (22:00):
What are you rolling out? You don't know what that is, Jonaman.
You're always getting said, Jonathan, what are you rolling out? Jonathan?
You like to get stretched out? And that's cool. I
don't know how to guid this. He's so exasperated in
air makes him he's very man at us. Hey, there,
(22:27):
rossfer Real here in Sports Talk seven ninety and I
wasn't sure if we're starting the relaxing segment now or
if we're doing it later, because honestly, I wasn't paying
attention to what Matt Thomas was saying. And sometimes it's
(22:49):
best to admit your own faults, and a big fault
of mine is quite frankly, tuning out to anything Matt
Thomas has to say. We're going to roll with this
right now, because I've got some nights soothing relaxing music,
and we're looking to be a release for you, a
(23:14):
calming force to where you can mindfully calm down. Yes,
and I'm mistake to you as well. So if you'd
like to get in on the phone lines.
Speaker 5 (23:27):
And you have some.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
Things you need to get out about the Houston Astros,
because it's been horrible. The good news is they're in
first place. They have sixty nine wins, and they still
sit in the catbird seat to make the playoffs and
possibly challenge for another American League pennant. But there's no
(23:53):
way to sugarcoat it. Things aren't going well right now
for the Astros. But I want to remind you that
in baseball, much like in life, there are peaks and valleys.
There are good times, and they're bad times. And one
of the ways that we can embrace the good times
(24:14):
and feel them even more is to experience the bad times.
Bad times let you know, and they let you calibrate
and let you feel how good and how high the
good times can actually be. And right now the Astros
are giving you some horrible times. They haven't scored a
(24:38):
run in three out of four games, which they haven't
done in twenty years. They're testing us right now, our
fortitude and our resolve to stay invested in a team
that continues to whiff and strike out and hit into
constant double plays and look completely hapless at the plate
(25:00):
in situations with runners in scoring position. But it's gonna turn, folks.
Things will get better. Things get darkest before the dawn,
even though that's actually not scientifically true at all. So
we're looking for things to get better. If you have
something you want to get out, whether it be positive
or negative, at the end of the day, we just
(25:22):
want to say we embrace you and we welcome you
with open arms. Are you a psychologist or a psychiatrist?
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety. I'm
not licensed for either right now, so I'm not going
to declare myself either of those because I don't want
to get sued. So you can't write a prescription seven
one three two one two, you're just like basically a
(25:44):
counselor five seven ninety. You get a PhD in nothing
that really matters? Yes, okay, much like does Tony Robbins
have a PhD in anything? What does he? Just talking
and give a bunch of platitudes. Move called Delilah she
gives a good advice at night and sunny. Yeah. She does,
got a great soothing voice, playing the soft hits that
(26:05):
you love. And then she puts on a Celine Dion
song and says, live with it. Oh great, we have
some people wanting to get in. Therapy is in session.
You can keep the music up. Is stunning job. You're
doing a great job.
Speaker 15 (26:20):
You know what.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
By the way, Jonathan, it's great to see your voice
and we see your your wonderful, smiling face. You really
bring a light to our lives here at Sports Talk
seven nineties. I appreciate you. You've been average. I really
would appreciate some more anticipation. But other than that, you've
been fine. Matt Thomas is a hater and you got
to have a positive attitude sitting next to him in
a chair for as long as I have fifteen years,
let's go, Oh god, I'm going to hit sixteen years
(26:43):
in January. I'm not gonna throw up until you can't
because you're mister positive. You are having a great time.
I'm happy to be here. I sit in front of
a microphone and talk to Houston Sports and they give
me money. Jonathan, I will reiterate you can keep the
music up, thank you. So you get seven three, that's okay.
I was getting calls. Yeah, he's getting callers. He's very
busy back there. You know, Jonathan doesn't know this, but
(27:04):
in the old days you would have a board operator,
somebody who booked guests and did pitch show ideas, and
somebody who answered phones. Yeah. Now he has to do
all of that and an hourly wage, and we pay
him less than a burger king fry cook. But that's okay.
We appreciate him. Wapper junior sounds good right now. A
wopper junior does sound good. I mean, you'll lead it
(27:26):
all I preferred, but okay, the man's really hits well
on that burger. Before we started. Earnest, I think we
should just take at least one quick deep breath matt
in through the nose, out through the mouth, and you
can even outlet out a deep sigh. When you do that,
you shoot on something. You can I can take release
some of the pressure, you can prescribe something, let the
(27:48):
stress and anxiety melt off of you. This is good
because that because this has been frustrating. You got a
migrant okay, okay, well, just for you Jonathan more one
more deep breath in through the nose. How did the mouthful?
Can Ross buy your lunch today? Make you feel better?
I'd love to buy you lunch, Jonathan. If you want it,
let's do it. Buy my lunch. But I mean if
you guys willing to Thank God, I was bluffing. He
(28:11):
didn't call my bluff. I'm going on vacation. I need
every dollar I can say. Stunner, walk into the office,
my friend with Tony your mind, having a beautiful Tuesday.
Speaker 10 (28:24):
That same d breath they cake is a strike three?
How many you got?
Speaker 13 (28:30):
You got?
Speaker 10 (28:31):
Christian Walker getting the double but running a single? How
the hill do that happened?
Speaker 2 (28:36):
He's very slow. He would have been thrown out at
second stunning. He would have been thrown out. That was
He's very slow. Oh, he would have been and then
you would have been yelling about how slow he was.
It would not have been a stand up double. It
hit right off the carimed. It was played perfectly by
the left fielder. He would have been thrown.
Speaker 15 (28:49):
Out and then he was standing at man.
Speaker 7 (28:53):
He would be a second n I had a double play,
I mean a spata.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
He's going to exactly they had a double play anyways,
and they would have maybe scored one run and they
had all lost ten to one instead. It doesn't matter.
But go ahead, stunner, Hey, give me one one. I mean,
just give me one one. Is that we're looking for
you on one run. They haven't gotten one and two days.
I'm sorry, hold on, Yeah, you know what you're not sorry,
scored one run in two games? Oh my god, you
(29:18):
know what you need to management. You're the one running
this course. Sorry, go ahead, I'm sorry.
Speaker 16 (29:26):
I'm not already leaving them as CD.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
I don't need yeah, thanks, I don't need no more
of that crowd.
Speaker 15 (29:36):
I know, I know, you know what you need.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
You need the NBA and NBC. Yeah. By the way,
you have to some emotional support runs. You know what
I've been looking at that's really helping me during these
rough times. Tiff the ambertheestan with no clothes on. That
plus the AI videos of baby speaking. You've been watching those, those? Man?
I lave those. Don't be like, don't be like, don't
(29:58):
be Grandpa, No, I look at the ones in our
foul Grandpa is doing those too.
Speaker 14 (30:04):
As a young kids say that you're looking at a
brain rot brain rot man. Oh my god, your brain,
guy is rotting your brain?
Speaker 2 (30:10):
I love it. I am addicted to a man. Let's
get your screen time under six hours a day. I
don't think it's spot with the astros not scoring runs.
That's not gonna happen. Let's get your touching grass. You
don't think when's the last I was going for a
walk yesterday. You don't think those babies on the AI
are aren't funny? I don't count walking to your fridge.
Speaker 17 (30:29):
Man.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
Reagan's with us on seven out to get ten forty two.
Hello Reagan?
Speaker 10 (30:35):
Hello, how you doing, guys?
Speaker 2 (30:37):
Wonderful Reagan. I hope you're having a beautiful Tuesday, and
I'm wishing you peace and love.
Speaker 10 (30:42):
Oh I am with our astrois rotation. It's not giving
much peace right now. Who is y'all's top four playoff rotation?
If we make the playoffs? If I mean, I'm just
not having much confidence after after Hunter Brown under Brown
is not really going as much as it used to.
(31:03):
Oh uh, Fromber, don't get me going on Fromber. But
that boy Jason Alexander, he's doing great, But I don't
know when he's going back to comedy from some Steinfeld,
but we don't have much after those theory.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
Oh man, Jason hurting my head. Well, I know it's
gonna hurt your head and it might hurt your heart
to hear this right now as of this moment, Jason
Alexander's is your boyoff frontation. By the way, there's no
more Seinfeld references. You can only reference him, and yeah,
a you can exactly. Seinfeld references are fun when he's
giving up five runs and four innings, but when he's
(31:39):
out there given quality starts. Put some respect on that
man's Let me say you, if you besmirch him, bad
things are gonna happen to you. Like he will not
go six innings, give up just one run. Come on, folks,
respect who he is right now. The man's got a
life too. He's tired of nineteen nineties television references and
he's embraced it because you you don't really have any
other choice when your name is Jason Alexander. Yeah, it's
(32:00):
more parents kind of like seth beer back in the day.
He's like, yeah, they're gonna make beer jokes. It is
what it is. Yeah, poor guy. Now he's like, I
think he's in a plane in oki Nawa. I believe
he's in a Beer League softball league. Oh sorry about that. Uh,
James and Rod, hang tight, now what ethic? Laughing through
(32:24):
the pain. That's all you can do in life. I'm
telling you turn into the skid. The AI baby videos
can cure a lot of all right, please, that's that's
just a sweet release, Matts. You need to confront these emotions.
I'm not asking you to watch this for Academy Award material.
Not run Away and AI slop is is taking away
(32:45):
from real artists. And the way about the old people
talking about having sex, it's pretty funny too. Oh yeah,
it's a real laugh laugh riot, real knee slappers over there, Matt.
The babies are actually funny. The old people are just saying.
But the great part is both you know what I'm
talking about. So that means you're watching them. No, I'm
not watching them, but I've seen them. No, yeah you are, Jonathan.
I've had them sent to me and I'm thumbing down them. Jonathan.
(33:07):
When you're with a girl at night and she's like, oh,
this is so cute, You're like, yeah, girl, it is.
I know you, Jonathan, we don't know. Yeah, yeah, yeah, No,
AI video. Yeah you do. I'm gonna watch videos after
I tell you about uptown and plants repair. All right, yeah, cut,
you know what, tell us about uptown of plants for prayer,
because you know it can be very stressful. Matt, All right?
Uh rossa, Matt with you here. We've got gut feelings.
(33:27):
At eleven thirty, we have the news at noon. Joe
Spot is with us at twelve thirty today. That'll be
a real peach. What are we sposed to say? I'm sorry,
I mean, that's I I don't know where the I mean, honestly,
I I feel like every time we do an interview,
(33:48):
we've got some questions lined up ready to go. What
am I supped? What a we so say? What are
you gonna say? What's what's right out of the gate?
How you doing? How did you say? I see you
know what? Detroit the same of year, I almost feel
like I want Robert Ford to go to the hot
Dog Spike Store for me. Oh okay, there's a there's
(34:09):
two islands next to each other, and I wanted to
figure out which the one best one is when they
insult you. Oh no, the Spike Store, I know, never mind. Yeah,
spikee story is uh, two Coney Island hot dog places
literally sharing a wall. It's the big It's the number
one Spike store in America. Okays, a lot of places,
Like you'll see a coffee place in the same strip center,
(34:31):
but it'll be like two or three down. They literally
are next to each other. And when I go to
try later this year, I'll being a hot dog from
both really chili cheese onions, relish, give me the whole
damn thing. Okay, I miss like rams Roney Island, I
haven't been in years. Well it's like, yeah, you walk
(34:53):
out of there, You're like, why did I just spend
eighteen bucks on two hot dogs? I mean their prices
are really really high. And when they do the disc
count days there's it's six hundred and fifty people deep,
and I ain't got time for eighty four. Since hot
dogs out of business, Yeah, hot dog stands are kind
of more of a thing of the past, especially brick
and mortar ones. Yeah, let's up up our bet to
(35:16):
uh at on a raiins Rodney Island. How's uh, what
do you mean? How's Kyle Tucker doing these days? He
didn't play He's not playing he's been giving some time off.
Oh hell yeah he did. Oh yeah, I mean, come on,
he hit it right to the first basement and didn't
leg it out. People were all upset. Don't worry, Jonathan,
I'll be taking pictures from our uh from Harbachi, and
I'll be showing the build our sports RV. Yes, I
(35:38):
don't know. RV is this uh this bet has good time.
I'm not worried about it. You should be people I
trust to think that I have the best side. So
that's all. Say the person that you trusted last year,
boyt Bregman. You want up us an avtuk to multiple people.
I have multiple people. Ain't getting everyone. Everyone is on
my side. So I'm feeling I'm at least on the
right side of history and won't see how it goes. Okay,
(36:00):
you've been the right side of that check. Everyone's like, man, man,
what is he thinking? I'm just kidding. James on seven
speaking of Coney Islands, Hello, James, or I'm.
Speaker 7 (36:11):
Gonna stay.
Speaker 2 (36:14):
My friend this this game, this game.
Speaker 7 (36:18):
I'm like, I was looking forward to this matchup literally
for weeks, but I saw it on the calendar. I
was like, I'm going to.
Speaker 18 (36:24):
Try and go to that game.
Speaker 7 (36:25):
I tried to talk my wife into it, and some
other stuff came up, and I was like, all right, well,
at least we're going to go out to dinner and
we'll watch the game together. And we had to turn
it off and went the sixth inning, and then I
started drinking. And so now I'm at the beach, I
called out, sick. I've got my astro's gear on. I'm
at the beach a little hammered. But I want to say,
what if? What if this is the bottom? You know,
(36:48):
what if this is the bottom of everything we've experienced,
coming all the way through this series, this this season,
with all of the losses, the injuries and everything, And
what if now we've get to fire off, you know,
like we have stripped the space shitty Cowboys down to
(37:09):
the hubs and the windshield wipers, and now we'll maybe
we get a few these guys back, and that you know,
new light shines in the U, in the locker room,
and everybody just gets going again. I feel like, this
is it, This is the bottom. How much worse could
it possibly get? I can't imagine it getting any worse.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Well, the worst thing you can get, thank you for
the phone call. Sorry you're not feeling well hashtag brew flew.
I think he's in Orlando. I don't think he's in
New York. I think he was in New York one time. Okay,
big me new York for us, it's got a New
York accent.
Speaker 16 (37:41):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (37:43):
The bottom is that they don't make the playoffs. Yeah,
they're in the playoffs. And by the way, last time
I checked, they have a game in half lee in
the division in first place. First place, let's go. If
the playoffs began, we'd be raising another division banner. That's crazy.
Now this we'll see what happened. I have wore the
Jim Cranes, like, if we win this division going eighty
(38:03):
two to eighty, we're not getting You're not getting champagne.
You're getting like Michelo Ultra. Well they get those anyways,
it's true sponsor. Oh that's right, they're getting uh root
hud risers, red risers, rick rolches and red lights mm hmm.
Or they're getting sprayed into my face blitz malt Lika.
(38:24):
You're not getting schlitz Matt. Guess who still has the
weakest schedule remaining Between the Seattle Mariners and the Houston Astros.
This is still the Astros, yep. Yeah, but they're counting
four against Baltimore, who who beat the Astros two out
of three. They're counting that, yeah, exactly. You gotta fight, Mack.
Maybe all right, we're fighting our body. West is going
(38:44):
to join us at the top of the hour. Wonderful.
Speaker 1 (38:46):
We have.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
Gut feelings at eleven thirty? Would you like this? Can
I take this week off? Can I read Rex's tweets, tweets,
read Wex's tweets? Why he's he? I mean he is
and lessly tweeting at Texans practice today. That's good. Is
this a football town, Mattie, Well, it might be pretty
quick if this team continues it struggles. Of course, it's
(39:10):
a baseball town. Now it is a baseball town. But
if the Texans had won two Super Bowls and been
to what was it, seven straight AFC champions show above
the helicopter in a helicopter because we wouldn't be a
lot on the hellow grounds. Is the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross Love it O three Sports Talk seven ninety.
(39:33):
It is a Matt Thomas Show with Ross watching Kyle
Tucker highlights and how he's mailing it in defensively. Isn
Okay still having a plus season? Yeah, I mean the
open the uh. I believe his ops plus still one
thirty eight, which is really good. I think they would
(39:54):
be leading active astros. Jeremy Peney might be up there. Yeah,
uh okay. Joe Spotted joins his twelve thirty. Great, we're
gonna read. We're gonna read Wax's tweets in seventeen minutes.
Gotta make mix things up a little bit. I do
want to give you one NFL note you do? Uh oh,
(40:15):
I was I gonna tell you.
Speaker 15 (40:16):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
We met. Joe Flack was gonna start for the Cleveland Browns.
We found out that yesterday Daniel Jones will be starting
for the Colts, and Arro opener over Anthony Richardson. Yeah,
let me ASKT mean seriously, cults, I'm gonna pat myself
on the back for for talking about that. Anthony richards
(40:38):
has sad hype at the beginning of last year and
how was ridiculous. Thank god Thomas Sports Enterprises and not
endorse him more than Will Levis who sucked and then
now hurt. Yeah, but he's gonna be better wherever he
plays next year. The reality is this Jacksonville to me
is the team that might be a little scary, but really,
if the Texans don't win this division, what by at
(40:59):
least two games, it will be a massive failure. And look,
their defense is going to probably win them six games
by themselves. So if he asked if the Texans offense
could be just pedestrian ross, I mean, I'm saying as
average as average, gets some sort of running game, Nico
Collins putting up comp numbers, Christian Kirk being healthy, c J.
Straw being upright, They're going to find themselves with at
(41:23):
least at least ten wins this year. Yes, they are
Arianta Erseries making plays already looking good, not allowing pressures.
They look like they're going with a lot of quick
passing game. Now, of course it's his preseason. We'll see
how it goes right there, right, Joe Mixon needs to
get healthy. By the way, I'm gonna be three for
three on my Texans predictions. Would like to hear them.
(41:46):
Go ahead. I told you that Laramie Tunsel was a
bad dude. Check I told you that what are you
talking about? Offensive line coach said he was great, he
lied well a lot. I'm going to trust him.
Speaker 19 (41:57):
He was.
Speaker 2 (41:57):
Why am I trusting you because I told you? Because
Demiko's telling me got he got rid of him. An
offensive line coach is gone fired. And say that Larmie
tunsl is a good pro. Okay, whatever you know, then
why would you trade him? Then? Yeah, you don't have excuse.
So I'm gonna stay with.
Speaker 19 (42:11):
Me on this.
Speaker 2 (42:12):
Okay, Laromy Tunsil bad seed? Check coach, he's good? No
check Nope. Stefan Diggs one and done check And I
had that pegs penciled in from day one. I'm two
for two and when Joe and then when Joe mixons
al ready, I want to be easy. I want to
be known as the Texans insider. I'm known right now
as mister Texas. They literally restructured his contract to make
(42:33):
it a one year deal. Of course he was probably
gonna be there for one year. Yeah, ching because that's
a great because people are like, oh no, he'll come
back and he'll like you here. No, Stefan Diggs was
one and done. Looks just like I told Joe, And
when Joe Mix, most everybody agreed. I will be mister
Texans Insider. Okay, period under story. I'm mister Texas. Now,
(42:54):
uh huh, Extra tex You are not mister Texas, Yes
I am. Stop. Yeah, you were the absolute worst candidate
from mister Texas. I'm gonna I'm embarrassed you keep bringing
this up because I really don't want to, like keep
putting you down, but you keep talking yourself up. You're
forcing You're forcing my hand. I had somebody a at
the grocery yesterday refer to me as mister Texas. Yeah,
(43:15):
they're making funy and then they snickered behind your back.
I don't care what they did. They called me mister Texas. Okay,
gonna call me a lot worse. You've been called worse.
I know I will call you worse. You say director
in my face, absolute worst candidate for mister Texas West
and Humble. How are your friend man? How you doing good? Buddy?
Speaker 18 (43:35):
Hey, I'm spot up now. PG Tour selected the ass
and send their zero hand for the Ryder Cup. Where's
the Scotty Scheffler in the lineup?
Speaker 2 (43:48):
We missed all of that. I don't we can't hear you.
We're having some issues with the connection, Wes. I don't
know what's going on. Did he just go Scottie Schaeffer
on the Astros lineup? I guess so, Wes's that's your
best material. I mean we missed maybe we missed the
really funny parts. Matt Wes, Now Wes. I played poker
with Wes. You have two I think once or twice
I have. Yeah, he's a big Dynamo fan. Uh and
(44:09):
I'm like, come on, go Dynamo, go where maybe out
like the Roughnecks. Let's see. Just checking out their recent schedule.
I think drew Vancouver recently. What's her record overall? Seven wins,
eight draws and eleven losses eight draws. Let's get to
(44:34):
scoring a MLS. I can't watch MLS. I just can't.
Nobody can't. Nobody watches it. It's awful. I mean I
can go to the it's fine when you go to
the games, but man, it's a tough watch. Premier League
much better. Manchester City with a big four. Nothing went
over the Wolves over the weekend. Matt, congratulations looking forward
to the World Cup to Johanni Reinders looking pretty good
(44:56):
off season signing Roling Holland with a nice happen. H
and Ryan Shirkey with a with a late goal as well.
I really like what he's done late in games. Yeah,
he's clutch. He's probably one of the better final fifteen
minutes of players in soccer. Things looking up for Manchester City.
How's Team USA doing? I don't know. They usually suck.
(45:19):
I say this, if Team USA does not advance to
the knockout round? Is that correct? Here we go, Here
we go. We should just start calling you Sizzle Thomas.
We should start We should disband soccer, the United States
Soccer Federation whatever it's called, just eliminated because of wasting
our time in resources. Well, I think the women are
very profitable. Good for them. Give them the one money
(45:41):
they find they should, and then give them an I
Heeart radio podcast on top of it. They will. Yeah,
we're yeah, we're If Team you are not going to
disband it if they don't make if they don't make
the knockouts? Yeah why not? I mean, okay, why would
they disband it? Because nobody can. No one's gonna be
waste your time. Look at you. You're a you're a
(46:02):
one percent American and you you don't even have any
passion at all for Team US. There's a lot of
people that do. I mean, I'll watch him. You're not
rooting for him. I'm like, what was that touch? What
was that pass? Oh my, oh my god? What is
this defending? That's me watching Team USA and I cannot
wait for that. Angry sports RV on soccer is gonna
be something else. Yeah, you know, soccer roll always in
(46:26):
a special place in my heart. My first play by
play of a professional team in town with the Houston Hotshots,
I did indoor soccer. Yes, so there you go. That
was entertaining, right, Yeah, game was like nine to eight
going with four minutes left to go, fourteen, oh eleven.
I was all for it. You can only run, you
can only say he shoots you score so many times.
You know what I liked when we had Omega ball on.
It was three teams playing soccer against each other. All
(46:48):
that was cool. That was actually pretty sweet. It's fine,
all right, Uh Wax's tweets are coming up next. Okay,
we're gonna run through what's going on in Texans and
he's the one who can wait. Yeah. Uh we are.
Oh by the way, rotos with us on Thursday, This Thursday,
This Thursday. You're gonna be on the you actually probably
(47:09):
on Thursday, San Angelo, I will be on the way.
I'll be around junction. You know, it's so weird. You're
going to be going to places that I've only heard
of when I fly United. Okay, let me explain quickly.
Go ahead, when you on the computer screen in front
of your on your on your in front of your
seat and the plane, if you look at the airplane map,
(47:31):
it'll show you little cities that you're flying over, and
a bunch of these little, small little towns. I've never
heard it before. You're gonna be in all those small
little towns. Yeah, that's fun. I'm looking forward to it.
You should like can you will you send me a
postcar where you're going? I can send you one from
Carlsbad caverns, Yeah, send me probably. Can you get me
a stamp? Do they have stamps at these places? I'll
(47:51):
then know you a stamp? Okay, I have to call
you on What's app? By the way, are you gonna
be any cell service out there?
Speaker 4 (47:58):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (47:58):
Sales service should be pretty good at big end. Obviously
inside the counts caverns, it's not a lot of seale service. Okay,
I just worried about you. I'll be fine. I don't
want you coming back in and then bag of bones.
You know what, I appreciate that, man. That's very sweet
of you. I mean, I've already got your speech, your
your funeral speech already knocked out, locked and loaded. I
know it's just mostly because there's a shortage of other
(48:20):
co host options. So but that's okay. Yeah, I still
appreciate your kind I heard you here because the depth
chart isn't really long. It's good, but this is not
very long. Okay, don't don't clip that. Eleven twelve is
our time Wex Texan from the Texans I knew he
was afraid of that. Wex's tweets are up next on
All Things Texans Love It. It's eleven twelve here on
(48:42):
The Matt Thomas Show with Ross seven one three, two
one two fives of a ninety. Everybody listen to me
very careful. You've got predictions coming up in about fifteen
minutes from now. It's our gut feeling segment.
Speaker 7 (49:02):
Do you want?
Speaker 2 (49:02):
Is there something you want to bring up? Astroile that
we all three should answers in England. We're all gonna
say they're winning the West right, you didn't answer quickly.
Let me just put your headphones on, That's okay. Yeah,
if you're Seattle, are you embarrassed you can't take advantage
(49:23):
of this Astros team that's been outscored by twenty two
runs in the last two games. I'm sure they're sad.
You gotta be feeling snake bit if you're a Mariner's fan, right, Yeah,
our friends at fangrass fifty two percent to win the
division for the Mariners, forty seven percent for the Astros.
How's the Astros playoffs seedings? Looking the seedings, I mean
(49:46):
the playoffs, you know, to make the playoffs at And
that's say Cleveland's not doing much. I mean the three
teams that are kind of in that wald cart are
kind of just kind of beating each other. Right, everybody's
in kind of a malaise. Maybe it is dog days
this summer for everyone. Yeah, man, it feel like it's
been dog d is for a month ever since what
(50:08):
is it the week before the All Star break was
this team? It just hasn't been the same.
Speaker 20 (50:12):
Is that fair?
Speaker 2 (50:13):
You think I would say so? But I mean, yeah,
it's that's going to week When did Estock preade us
go down. Probably around Estock has been great. Jake Myers's
absence has not frankly been talked about it. No Jake
Myers yet you know what, as president of the fan club,
I completely one hundred percent agree. I figured as much
Josh Hater is down. I think we kind of talked
(50:35):
about this when when they were winning, we were saying
to ourselves, how are they doing this? And as we
know in baseball, a lot of times what goes up
comes down a bit. As the previous caller I brought
up in the first star of the show, actly, yeah,
all right, so we need something not hot takesh but
(50:56):
let's do something. All three of us have to do
something gut feeling on the astros in the next next
segment of the show. We'll alwaysould usually do anyway, but
I'm trying to think of something a little more than Hey,
quality start tonight. Hey what's wrong with that? Our mister
quality start guy? Yes, sir, well that's easy for for
Hunter Brahma stay away from that one, all right, real quick.
What Texans are doing today? Let's see they signed a
(51:21):
wide receiver Cornell Powell and Juwan Winfrey. Cornell Powell, Xavier
Johnson's been released. JJ Taylor's been released. Cornell Powell. That
sounds stately. Yeah. Uh, Wax is taking pictures of Christian
Harris apparently ready to practice this morning. That's good. He's
(51:42):
also got a photo of a coach at Texans practice
going down on the uh padded area. Wow, that's that's crazy.
He's got eleven on eleven's offensive line ursery, Tomlinson, andrews,
Ingram and Howard. That was fifty one minutes ago. Then
the second team offensive line had Robinson, Thomas, Patterson, Scruggs
(52:04):
and Deculus deculous. Okay, lest Tiger's legend. Yeah he's fine.
And then uh, thirty one minutes ago, Cam Robinson at
left tackles Scrugs right guard, and now work this is
this is boring as hell. I've apologized. I mean nothing
against WEX, but I just just suit up and be
ready to go. I don't think the water coloriversary had
(52:28):
left in the first OH line. I think that's interesting.
Well it should be. He's a high draft pick, second rounder,
doesn't normally always doesn't always get plugged in immediately at
left tackle at start. You're a weekly right about that,
But that just shows you how bad the offensive line is.
It ursher keme in and took the job. Good for
him that, you know what, there's a positive note I
can tell you that. Yeah, we'll see what happens with
(52:48):
Cam Robinson. They wasted. I liked it if at first
reserned the job out of camp and they give it
to him, that's great. I like that. Don't just hand
Cam Robinson the job because you sign him too. I
mean it was like a huge deal. It was like right,
but he has had established NFL veteran and it's awful
hard sometimes because maybe Cam Robinson was promised something when
he got here. I can't imagine Robinson was. Yeah, they
(53:11):
probably had to say, we'll see what happens in the draft. Look,
we saw your PFF grades the last couple of years.
You'd be willing to take this job.
Speaker 19 (53:18):
And like it.
Speaker 2 (53:21):
Heal out a lot of pressures, but I had to
pull the grades back up. It was actually, when not
bad PFF for is Pro Football Focus, they'd be correct,
Oh thank you? Oh you mean there are a lot
of people that aren't running around going I wonder where
the PFF grade is of said player? Good first, you know,
(53:41):
and then that's not lb All. It's one data point,
but I like it because that's they're doing more research
than you and I would ever won on that particular situation.
I'm trusting them, Yeah, I gotta trust them too, all right.
So the Texans are going to have one more practice.
I think tomorrow they're gonna fly Totroit.
Speaker 18 (53:57):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (53:57):
And then at the game Saturday. With the line, I
would assume that most players are not playing the game
of any value, that there's just second and third teamers going.
Do you see who played late in the game yesterday?
Joe Burrow for the CINCINNTI Bengals was playing late. I
saw the beginning of that game. I didn't watch the
(54:17):
end of it. Okay, so getting some work? Is he okay?
Is he healthy? Well? I think he just is, Like, man,
why are they putting him out there? For guys's been
as brittle as he's been. I'd be very careful about
the Bengals because put it this way, if the Bengals
are gonna be good this year, which I think a
lot of people think they can be, they're gonna have
to outscore people who like scoring thirty five points a game.
(54:40):
Mm hmm. You note that for your fantasy draft, Matthew
just saying Chase T. Higgins, I mean, load up on
anybody since any I'm sure, mister Barre are people that
are are fantasy experts talking about like drafting their whole offense.
Some weeks you're gonna you're getting like Chase Brown, Burrow,
Higgins and Chase the Tell me why Joe Burrow isn't
(55:02):
the number one quarterback taken, I'm gonna say Josh Alan
or Lamar Jackson are the number one, and that would
be so in our league, we have six point passing touchdowns,
so that would make a lot of sense. But just
because over the last few years, Josh Allen and and
Lamar Jackson have been better and they give you the
they give you the rushing yard, and they play seventeen
(55:22):
weeks and they give you the rushing touchdowns as well,
which Joe Burrow doesn't. But as I said, in a
six point passing touch most leagues are four point passing touchdowns,
so you get that extra premium for the six point
rushing touchdown for Josh Allen Lamar Jackson. When you switch
to six it becomes more of a conversation. I don't
disagree they're really good their defense, and Hendrickson they don't
(55:47):
have any money to sign him. Adam Schefter was talking
about this like they simply don't have the money. Trey
Henderson is one of the best defensive players in the NFL.
Is also thirty one years old. Yes, that makes teams
the nervous. He's camp with Sinsanny. He's not happy. He
is set to make I think sixteen million dollars a year. Yeah,
(56:08):
but he wants a big deal. He wants a big
deal and he's like, I'm not playing the regular season.
What in life would be the equivalent to that? In
regular work, a salesperson can excuse me coming to the
office and just all right, Lee, there's no equivalent to me.
Because Trey Hendrickson is putting his body on the line
(56:34):
week to week and he does not have a guarantee.
There's no fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL. There's not
no fully guaranteed. Guys are getting more and more fully guarantees,
and some of these draft picks are getting full guarantees too,
which is great. He wants as much guarantee money as possible,
and the Bengals have said we're not giving you as
much as you want. It becomes a difficult situation because, yeah,
if a if an NFL team is winning on a deal,
(56:56):
they keep you. If they're losing on a deal, they
cut you. And there's usually not a whole lot of
repercussions because there's not a whole lot of guarantees. So
the players don't have the power balance in the NFL,
so they hold out, which I will never begrudge anybody
for doing that. And the problem is that he's going
he plays for a team that has been known as
a miser league football team is always on the bottom
(57:16):
floor when it comes to money spending. No one's ever
said the Bengals go out and above and beyond take
care of the players. So when you are one of
the most recognizable defensive players in the NFL complaining about it,
you're just adding to the storyline. Yeah, but they already
paid Chase in Higgins and Burrow and it's just hard
to pay everybody. That's the beauty, the beauty and the
curse of the NFL. Now, it's interesting, as I was
(57:37):
reading this last night, so Hendrickson's like, I don't want
to be in Cincinnati. I don't want to play here.
They're not going to pay me. The Bengals went and
told him, go find your own deal. Excuse me, h,
nobody was willing to do it. Yeah, I mean he
can go and find he doesn't have to get paid
(58:01):
if he doesn't have the leverage. He doesn't have the leverage.
Speaker 5 (58:04):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (58:05):
So he went and looked. And that's why he's back there,
because he's gonna be if he's not in camp, he
gets fined. In the NFL, you cannot retract those fines anymore.
There used to be a forgiveness plan. They don't do. Yeah,
they used to be like, ah, we're good, We're not
gonna find you. No, they can't do that. So honestly,
I guess the owners voted for that. How the players
ever agree to that, I don't know. The collective bargaining
(58:25):
agreement has not been very fair to the not fair.
It has been kind to the players, yes, because they
have such a they have such a expansive for the
haves and the have nots. It's a huge golf right
and a lot of times they don't get paid as
much and there's no guarantees and players generally cannot strike
as long in the NFL as in other sports, and
(58:51):
you also have a discrepancy. I think this is the
biggest problem with the league. I told you about this before.
You've got offensive linemen and you've got backup running backs
making decent money, but the difference between the quarterback and
the next highest paid player is astronomical. So you really
aren't an union for everybody. Yes, your your union is
(59:12):
so widespread because when you typically unions are about I mean,
I don't know a lot about unions, but I would
assume that most people in a union at a normal
place like a plant or a autobile, they're all making
comparable money. Your union has thirty players making sixty million
dollars a year. That's uh huh, and then everybody else
is making making like five hundred thousands. So it's hard
(59:35):
to negotiate when you have such a wide disparancy in cash.
So that's Cincinnati's problem, and frankly, for Texans fans, that's
got to be good news because since Anni will be
a team that played really well the back half of
the year, they had a terrible September, and that bad
September cost them a playoff spot team that Texas could
be potentially facing in a playoff game. You never know.
The AFC is so ridiculous. It is ridiculous. All right,
(59:57):
now it's time for us to make some gut feelings.
Here's what we need you to do. Will you need
you to think about what you've been telling your friends
at the office, at the water cooler, at your house,
in your group chat about sports predictions. What do you
got going this week? Seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven aunty, Time for you to make some sports predictions.
(01:00:18):
If you get them right, we'll let you brag. If
you get them wrong, unless they're completely preposterous, we will
not make fun of you. Jonathan's worst of the year
was Cooper hummels. Right, No, I think it is no.
This one might be the worst one at the one
coming up? Yeah yeah, if I remember Craig, Oh, we
(01:00:38):
gonna make fun of you big time or a little time. Actually, no,
Coup Humble might be the worst one. Acay, Cooper humbles
the worst. It is the absolute worst, all right? Seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven nine zero listen up segment.
Speaker 19 (01:00:56):
So appeals tumm it, you'll make got it good.
Speaker 2 (01:01:01):
This is their gut feeling on the Matt Thomas Show,
eleven thirty four Sports Talk seven ninety time now for
us to get some gut feelings in. You are more
than welcome to Jordan's at seven one three two one
two five, seven ninety. And remember when I tell you
all this, if you ever get your gut feelings right,
you did call on him. Brag. It's what we do
(01:01:21):
here on the show. I told you that, uh that,
uh Larmie Tunsel was a bad dude. I'm bragging about that.
I told you that, uh the coach said he's good
Stefan Diggs and won and done. I was right about that.
And when Joe Mixon's not ready for the start of
this is season, I'll be ready for that. Boom boom boom.
Mister Texans insider, you take credits for ones you didn't
(01:01:42):
even get right, Like the Erdea is leading the team
at home runs that's like five or six away. I
said it's a sneaky pick. I didn't say it was
a it was a definitive. He's getting closer. He's getting closer,
all right. The one on the one prediction I'm ready
to be wrong about and I'll be happy is when
uh Jordan Avarez goes deep with the Astros. By the
(01:02:02):
way he plays with the hooks tonight. Yeah, looking forward
to Yeah, we'll see how it goes. Jordon's life style bad.
He's been a wetsbawn beach in Corpus for the last
three weeks. Yeah, it's better than Detroit, you know what.
I kind of need him in Detroit. This offense needs
in battling Detroit. By the way, Joe soft landing spot
(01:02:23):
for him in Colorado next week. That's what they got.
My Oh you know what? Write that down? Good feeling
games are here though during Houston. Yeah, against Colorado. It's
a in college? Did I say in Carlo? I mean
against I know they're here. Okay, Uh yeah, so U
Joe spotted with us in one hour from now? Right
now you can be with us seven one three two seven?
Any how do we do last week's sports HARV Last week,
(01:02:44):
Matt you said C J. Gardner Johnson will not play
week one. MM. I don't know what the latest on
that is, but looks like could be an l you
said a Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros game over there
in their series in September will get flexed to Sunday
Night Baseball. Feel really good about that. I would imagine
it'd be of high interest. You said the Astros will
(01:03:08):
not fall to second place this week. They did not,
and it wasn't not for trying. They did not fall
and they're still I know this is a shaker for
you folks. There's still a game and a half lead
over the Mariners. Again, if I'm Mariner fan, do you
think Astro fan goes to Mariners account and rips them
like Mariner fan comes to the Astros account. I think
(01:03:30):
a little bit, but I don't know if it's as
much because I don't know. I'm not a weirdo who's
getting up into the mentions of the Seattle Mariners social media.
That seems fair, but whatever. Okay, uh, let's see. Yes,
the Astros have lost four of their last six. That's
not good. Anyways. You also said, no, that's all you said.
(01:03:50):
I said that doll I had a random one out
of left field. I said dollar dogs will go to
two dollars, might take a year or two on that.
Wait a minute, what is what is the length of
time we've a whole next season is a gut feeling,
cause I don't care two thousand and forty one at
their two dollars dollars, you're gonna claim that one. Actually,
you know, I'm gonna call you. I'm gonna call you
at the home at the sanatorium in between the lobotomy sessions.
(01:04:15):
Do I have a hot night nurse? You're gonna think
she is, But it's because your brain's gonna be damaged.
That's fair, I said. Spencer a getty quality start. Nope,
he had five innings and two run ball and five walks,
and then yesterday was far for quality starting that was
five and five. He need that last little five to five?
What is Spencer cri ra since his return? Go look
(01:04:36):
it up, It doesn't matter. You don't want to look. No,
I don't care. He's looking good, he's got he was
getting some whifts yesterday, all right Injamous and I had
yourd on back by September. First, let me bring it
up fifty times and then talk about it and pat
myself on the back, talk about how right I am,
how smart I am? You know what, you're the Astros insider.
(01:04:56):
Nobody can argue that monominate Hey, he can still have
a set back, though, I'm gonna not for the Astros
wall media fans. Actually no, I'm gonna take I'm gonna
take credit for something that hadn't even happened yet. I'm
saying I was on two for two. I'm gonna be
three saying I'm right. But I want to be known
as the Texans insider when it happens. Oh my god,
this is not good. Go ahead. I don't think Hater
(01:05:18):
is out for the year. This is before the shoulder
diagnosis and the thing. Don't forget. This is like the
day after he went down. That's gonna be I said,
I kind of forgot you. It was being optimistic. I'm
trying to be optimistic. Obviously he's gonna I said, out
for the year. He could bitch in the playoffs. Man,
(01:05:38):
you said, not off of the year. So if he
comes back, it's a win for you. Yeah, so hold
on to it. We probably let you sure, We probably
put it on the back burner. All right, How did
Jonathan do? He said the Astros will win their next
two series. They won the Red Sox series. They did,
(01:05:58):
They did not win the Oral Series, and he said
as well as the first game Monday against Detroit. Oh god,
it was close, all right. Now he's gonna he says,
he's got to take that could be as bad as
his Cooper Hummelton. So we're gonna let you go first. Okay,
so you got you got sage ones this week, Taylor
(01:06:21):
Tremmeelle five hits tonight.
Speaker 14 (01:06:26):
Hmmm, let's see if you got to think, yeah, come
back to me, come back to me, all right, Uh,
never mind, go ahead.
Speaker 2 (01:06:39):
I was thinking say something good for Hazy Sanchez. Then
I remember who's on the mound for the Tigers today.
We'll take it. Too many losses and now we're scared
to say something. I will make a gut feeling about tonight,
Jesus Sanchez gets to hit. Well, what's what's the timeframe
on this?
Speaker 16 (01:06:52):
Today?
Speaker 5 (01:06:53):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:06:53):
Today today? Astros score at least three runs against Schooble
tonight off of Schooble, earned runs off earn runs off
of I want you to be right. I'm not even
gonna career runs off of Schooble tonight. I'm not gonna
provide further comment than I want you to be right.
(01:07:14):
Thank you, you hear that, Houston, Texas. I got Tark
Schooble giving up three earned runs. Now, it doesn't mean
they're gonna win, doesn't mean that he still can't get
a quality start. I'm just saying the Astros offensive woes
come to an end tonight and the ask they actually
score a run and actually score three runs against Tarak
(01:07:36):
schoobl gut feeling. Okay, there you go. Good God, God,
I'm wishing this one bad. I'm also I'm trying to
will this one into play. Mmmm. You don't want to
back No, I told you. I'm not providing further comment.
Speaker 21 (01:07:53):
Other than I hope you are correct. Jonathan, all right,
I'm gonna just go for it, and I will go ahead.
I'm gonna do a numbers thing. We're gonna say in
the next two series, Astros will score over.
Speaker 2 (01:08:11):
Fifteen runs combined. In the next five games. Is scoring
fifteen runs. It's not that great. That's good. Let's just
do twenty five, three games, twenty five. Look when we
could go to let's suckered. You we sucked because we're
resting the Orils again. There's no way, there's no way,
(01:08:32):
right way. Oh, by the way, you're on neword On
back in the lineup. Tuesday against the Colorado. Now, of
course I'll take a week. The Astros have two more
with Detroit, yes, four in Baltimore, three with Colorado, and
I believe the Angels are coming back to town. Is
(01:08:54):
that correct? After that?
Speaker 22 (01:08:55):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:08:55):
Huh oh, you're getting bold, daddy. When that stretch is done, please,
the Astros will lead, will be at least two games
in the American League. Oh, they're going to gain a
half game against all these bad teams. That's pretty vanilla.
All right, you know what you're going to there, Now
you do it, Jeemen three, I'm not doing three. Fine,
(01:09:15):
I'm not doing anything. That's fine. Three game lead, and
then you're into September where all bets are off. Okay,
after the after which series, after the Angels series, which
will be not this weekend but the next the Astros
leave the American League West will be three games. Get
a hold onto that for two weeks. That's that's wistful thinking.
That's what I'm saying. It's a gut feeling. And maybe
(01:09:37):
it's my fandom. I get it. Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven nine zero anymore from me? You get
nothing over there. That's not true. Oh, by the way,
I wrote this down. When did I When did I say,
Christian Kirk over fifty receptions in six hundred and forty
nine yards has his projections. I wrote that down for okay.
(01:09:57):
It's fine to do it. That's fine to use that. Okay,
I said, your ons in the lineup, and I said,
hose said hezu Sange is getting a hit. You don't
want to hear my gut feeling about how tonight's game
is gonna go. So I'm not gonna say it. All right,
we're off the record here. This is not count How
is tonight gonna get house? Tonight going they lose like
three to one? This is just fine. That's my gut feeling.
(01:10:21):
I'm all right down. No, you shouldn't want to be
wrong three to one exactly, just for the one. Yeah, well,
we're not gonna hold him too bad. But I was
going to all right seven one, three, two, one two
five seven on you. Our gut feelings are in what
are yours? We need yours? Next we'll get to the
phones and we come back. I'm gonna cry. I'm gonna
cry and come up with a puzzle, you know. Why
(01:10:42):
you know, what's you know? Why you don't need to cry?
Why they're games, they're still in game. In alf lete Houston,
Texas seven one three two one two five seven ninety biscuit.
What's in your gut this week, Biscuit? Besides gravy?
Speaker 5 (01:10:54):
Hey?
Speaker 13 (01:10:54):
What's up my brother?
Speaker 7 (01:10:55):
Hi?
Speaker 2 (01:10:55):
Hey Rose.
Speaker 20 (01:10:57):
I think I've had a pretty good record with the
cooler in my bold Predictions.
Speaker 13 (01:11:01):
Of Good Feelings.
Speaker 20 (01:11:04):
I called it back to back and I called the
final four. Matt, I'm going out there on the limb again.
This tign Matt as a recruit in the state of
Texas in basketball who's just been deemed the number one recruiting.
Speaker 19 (01:11:18):
The twenty twenty seven class.
Speaker 20 (01:11:21):
He his father just happened to be a former cowboy.
Speaker 2 (01:11:26):
And he likes toughness.
Speaker 20 (01:11:30):
I'm saying that Houston Cooper is gonna land the number
one cool to twenty twenty seven.
Speaker 2 (01:11:34):
Man.
Speaker 20 (01:11:35):
He's gonna be over there on color playing.
Speaker 7 (01:11:38):
For Kelvin Samson.
Speaker 23 (01:11:39):
What's his name, uh, Spears, Marcus Spears Son.
Speaker 2 (01:11:44):
Oh really, the one that's on TV.
Speaker 20 (01:11:48):
Yeah, you know the son is her plays high school
ball in Dallas area.
Speaker 2 (01:11:52):
Marcus Spears junior. You know what I see him as
number two. I've been looking forward to calling his games.
You know, every one of the top recruits in the
country shoul go to university. I mean, it's just God's
gifted college hoops.
Speaker 20 (01:12:04):
I just think that the style of play, the Kevil
Santon play, I think it's gonna mess with Spears' attitude.
How you wanted something to be.
Speaker 2 (01:12:13):
Pushed yep, couldn't set it better myself.
Speaker 20 (01:12:17):
I think, uh, Kevin right now, I think Kentucky U
of H and one other team has got him off from.
Speaker 2 (01:12:25):
Rival, says s m U. He's he lives in Plano.
Oh my god. Yeah, I got bad news, Biscuit. We can't.
We can't cash whip s MU. They got more money
than God in Texas A and M they got they
got money.
Speaker 20 (01:12:39):
We're not going to outbuild on Matt. It's gonna be
the style of play.
Speaker 7 (01:12:42):
That's what I'm going.
Speaker 2 (01:12:43):
Well, you obviously haven't been a seventeen year old then lately.
Speaker 7 (01:12:47):
Well, yeah, Daddy Trump, that's true.
Speaker 2 (01:12:50):
Dad's got money. That's true, Thanks Biscuit, s m U,
A and M Texas Oklahoma State. L s U offered,
I don't see Houston on here right now. Every now
from the I'm on the rivals page. I'm sure he's
been offered bro yeah to twenty twenty seven Marcus Spears Junior.
Let's just hype and wait. Uh six eight one who
gotta eat? Yeah, Houston, Indiana, Kentucky, LSU. I mean he's
(01:13:15):
got offers from everything. Six eight one five. Yeah, that's
something bad for for a for a seventeen year old lean,
he's twenty class of twenty twenty seven. Let's feed him, Okay, man,
I'm sure he's eating just fine. I don't think so.
I think six eight one five means that Marcus Spears
eating more dinner than Sunday. He just had a growth spurt.
I mean again, Matt, you're you're you're going probably off
(01:13:37):
an NBA heightweight. That's true, he's in high school. Okay,
let's go to Ponder in Baytown. Bonder was in your
gut this week?
Speaker 13 (01:13:48):
Hey man, got a quick gut feeling for the night's
game going back. I didn't write them all down, uh,
but my gut feeling is we.
Speaker 24 (01:13:56):
Take to win the night.
Speaker 13 (01:13:57):
Stereotypically five hundred plus teams, the feel for this team,
we show up, especially against our number one pitcher all
the way back. We've I know we didn't do well
last night against Clarty, but we beat him the last
time we played him. I'm not sure about Tyree, but
I will I will tell you that we beat Zach
in the last few series, even the ones that we've
(01:14:17):
lost where we pulled out a win, we beat Jacob
de Gram, Zach Gallon Uh, which I believe are both
of theirs those teams aces Uh. There was another big
name in one of the last series that we Mackenzie
Gore with Washington. We show up, when the players show up,
and this is the start of a ten game win
the street.
Speaker 2 (01:14:37):
That's my gut feel responsible, logical, completely believable. Take thank you, Ponder,
We'll see Look I've got did wait met You were
just our therapists an hour ago. Now you've clammed up.
What do you mean I said, we'll see you paused,
(01:15:00):
you shook your head, you went. You don't have to
tell everybody that, Well, we're not on space any network.
They've got shut out in three in the last four games.
I'm sorry if I'm worried about them scoring runs against
one of the best pitchers in baseball. I got a
gut feeling if I'm being unreasonable for that, I don't
know what to tell you. Chas McCormick's era will be
(01:15:21):
lower than Taylor Scott's. Oh it already is a car close,
I think, I think as there is down to six right.
Wasn't it wonderful? Did you see him picture?
Speaker 19 (01:15:30):
He?
Speaker 2 (01:15:30):
Obviously you did? H I did? He He was almost
balking every time he did. He didn't come to a
complete stop, but it was a brief one. But he
got on that bump. Yeah, you know, no, no stinking pitchclock.
He threw sixty two, sixty three and then he burned
him with any two bomb per hour slider. It's not bad.
He's getting out better. I mean, Tanner Scott. Who's the
(01:15:53):
other guy that got lit up over the weekend? Sean Dubinch,
John Dubin or Chas McCormick. Which one do you want
finishing out a game? Sean Dubin? Are you sure? Yes? Yeah,
me too, But it's not by much.
Speaker 1 (01:16:08):
I know.
Speaker 2 (01:16:09):
We want to be funny about it. No, we don't
want to be funny. We're being sad about it. But
it's even a conversation piece.
Speaker 1 (01:16:16):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:16:17):
Chas McCormick will not pitching the next week. Is that
a big gut feeling. I mean, he's done it three
times his arm. You're gonna have Tommy John. He's gonna
get elbow discomfort. Major league outfielder gets Tommy John? How
what do he throw some of There was a pitcher
who I mean, there was a recently in the last
five years. I want to say there was a position
player who got Tommy John from pitching in a game.
I can't remember who it was. That comes us to
(01:16:38):
no surprise at all. Oh, James and garden Oaks calling in. Oh,
there we go. I'm gonna wrap this bad boy up
with the right way, everybody. You gotta get our sounders.
We gotta get our sounders. He's got to get him
on the screen. And then we're gonna see if Jonathan
can find sixty six. Wf AGA's that's your home for
Yankee baseball right here? Sixties Yeah? How come James and
god knows didn't call when they sit Ashrows went up
(01:17:01):
in the Bronx and they with that Yankee. Yes, we
didn't hear it from James after that, And you said
he was gonna call the hell of Monday. Where the
hell are you Yankees, Keith, oh, hiding scoundrel? Funny how
that works?
Speaker 19 (01:17:14):
All right?
Speaker 2 (01:17:14):
Do we have the sixty six sound or no? Headshake
and nod? Play it and he's saying he's working on
That's fine, we'll get it back. All right, we'll take
the We'll talk to Cole James and god Oakes. Well,
Kyle first, we'll hello Kyle, what's what I got this?
No rules? Hi Kyle?
Speaker 25 (01:17:32):
Good morning?
Speaker 2 (01:17:32):
How you guys do it? Wonderful? Thank you for asking? Hey?
Speaker 26 (01:17:36):
My good take is?
Speaker 13 (01:17:37):
Uh think Ohio say we'll upset Texas and Arch is
gonna get injured?
Speaker 2 (01:17:42):
Ooh, double doozy. Hang up on this idiot, Kyle. You
don't double my partner mad? You know I love you, Kyle,
Hang up on this guy.
Speaker 15 (01:17:51):
It's all good.
Speaker 22 (01:17:52):
I know, it's all good.
Speaker 23 (01:17:53):
Good luck to Texas. I hope I have a good season.
Speaker 2 (01:17:55):
Yeah, you just said Arch is gonna get hurt. Though
I would Yeah, he wasn't very We don't like to
predict injury. We no, I mean he likes to make
plays with his legs.
Speaker 5 (01:18:03):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:18:03):
I dream of people getting injured. I know you do,
because you're a sick human being. Oh yeah, I tell
you just a meeting ago. Oh yeah, okay, we got
the w in here we go away. We Yankees suck.
(01:18:30):
Here we go James and God.
Speaker 15 (01:18:32):
No saylers, thank you for taking my call, man, Governor Thomas. Look,
I'm gonna give it to you straight. I believe my
Yankees are gonna rise from the ashes and everything and
all that talk about Avan Boone. Aman Boone's got to reprieve,
but he's got to take it to the next step now,
he got to bring him back to where it should be,
(01:18:53):
to the standards of what Yankee universe is. We're going
four and two this week, and Judge will real and
you start hitting some bottles, smashing some homers. And I
can't wait to get to that football prediction next week
because I'll touch the base with you guys, because fellas,
I think the Astros will surprise people and they will
win today. Because the Astros they they never you know, uh,
(01:19:15):
they never quit right now, they're just you know, right now,
you know, hurting a little bit, but they ain't gonna quit.
So just had if you are a two Astro fan,
you hang with your team, man, you don't start backstabbing
and talking about people.
Speaker 10 (01:19:27):
Man, All right, Thank you for taking my car, fellas,
I think for your.
Speaker 2 (01:19:35):
Jingles like that. Oh it on town. I was gonna
do a seven on singing jingle. You were ahead, you
got a song. I'll have to drop a beat. I'll
have one after the newt after you know what, I'll
(01:19:58):
have one for you after we hear from Smokey the Mayor, No,
the Robinson. Oh were we sticking with that? Tracks of
our tears?
Speaker 13 (01:20:07):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:20:07):
Maybe we got something else. Now we're gonna do it.
Twelve o'clock on something Renny.
Speaker 1 (01:20:12):
Is the Matt Thomas Show with Rocks three two.
Speaker 2 (01:20:34):
Well again this one to right field. Cam Smith back in.
That one's gone. He kept this one fair and it's
one nothing.
Speaker 4 (01:20:42):
Detroit did joke on to Green over two first pitch
and Green hits this eigh in the air pretty deep
to right. Smith is back and he will walch that
one go Riley Green with a two run homer, and
just like that, it is five nothing.
Speaker 5 (01:21:00):
Tigers check one on first and second. It's a two
to two count to Swedey.
Speaker 6 (01:21:19):
Here's the pitch that's driven to right field, that goes Smith.
He looks up and it's ten Rose d. Sweeney goes
d that's a three run homer for Detroit.
Speaker 4 (01:21:35):
Substance fans rise to their feet. First pitch, dis hits
it in the air, shallow rights center, going out, Torres
coming in Jones and the right fielder Perez and his
Perez who makes the catch and that is the ballgame.
Astro shut out for a third time in the last
(01:21:57):
four days, and as the Tigers beat him ten nothing.
Astros haven't scored in their last eighteen innings.
Speaker 2 (01:22:13):
Twelve oh six on Sports Talk seven ninety. This is
about Thomas Showan Ross. Joe's spotted joining us in twenty
five minutes from now, right now, time now for the
news and Nune what by the way, Joe's spot at
twelve thirty NFL rewind Ross at won twenty oh. I'm
gonna save some of these stories then see whatever you
(01:22:35):
gotta do. It's fine, all right, Matt, let's talk about
your use at Astros shut out three of the last
four games. The lone bright spot really the last week
has been Jas McCormick in relief. One inning, pitched, one hit,
given up. He also issued a walk, but he got
to strikeout in a double play to lower his season
(01:22:55):
eer eight to six. Astros did get two hits with
earners and scoring for the but still did not play
to run six of the nine starters going over And
I mentioned this on the post game last night. Jack
Flaherty was dotting up corners and his knuckle curve was
was just outstanding, and he was getting some help from
(01:23:16):
the home plate umpire because it was it was working
in the end of the zone and he was getting
a lot of calls. So in a vacuum this happens.
But when you add it up with multiple recent shutouts
against less instellar pitching, it certainly hurts. But Jack Flerity
was very good for the pitch for the pitching for
the Tigers yesterday. Trek Scuble versus Hunter Brown five to forty.
(01:23:39):
First pitch here on Sports Talks every night. Of course,
Hunter and Detroit Kidd went to Wayne State or my
mother went to college. Tark Scoobel, who will be a
Tiger for a couple more years until he gets traded
for the big mega deal with one of the coastal teams.
Seven innings, one run, ball porsch one. I hear you Brown, Baby,
(01:24:03):
Hunter Brown greater than Tark schoobl tonight believe it or not?
Oh you let's do a Tark school Believe it or
not today? Why? Because I mean, he's gonna be a storyline.
The other idea is already gave you. I'm writing it
down seven innings of one room Ball. I'm feeling I
just it just struck me like a lightning bulb. Okay,
(01:24:24):
what else hapning? Oh, there's a lot happening. Actually, Matt,
let's talk about the Indianapolis Colts. Colts fans how I'm
feeling like, Hey, we're not gonna go with Anz Richardson.
We're gonna go with Daniel Jones name. Sure you get
her thoughts. Uh, but she's been she's been on the
on the National NBA show. Yeah you know what. Uh,
(01:24:49):
John has been talking to Kendrick Parkins. Jonathan, you've got
Vanessa's phone and Barada gave it to you. Oh by
all the us. Okay, thank you. Call her, call her
and tell me want to talk to her about the
quarterback situation. Like right this second, Well, she's probably taping
for ESPN's very bid.
Speaker 14 (01:25:06):
She's not.
Speaker 2 (01:25:06):
I think she's in town. Now call it right this second,
Jonathan can get time for you, man, I send it
up for like fifteen minutes or not. She's gonna give
you a real body got time for that? Oh, she
wouldn't do that. So Daniel Jones sister starting quarterback, opting
for him over Anthony Richardson Senior. I mean, my god,
that's horrible if you're a Colts fan, But good if
you like to Houston Texans as they should win another
(01:25:29):
AFC South Crown. And yet the Colts, how do they
get away with this?
Speaker 19 (01:25:34):
You?
Speaker 2 (01:25:35):
This is a great example of you messed the quarterback's
decision up high first round pick. It can doom your
franchise for years. The Giants are saying the same thing
as they got rid of Daniel Jones. Remember they paid
him big time before they did, but they had to
eat some easy outs in that contract. I don't think
it cost him too much. Okay, Oh he's talking to her. Okay,
(01:25:56):
all right, Well let's go elsewhere in the news and
noon real quick, or you want to real quick. John
Wallace retiring Matt He hasn't played in the NBA since
two thousand and three. He's been podcasting more than playing basketball,
but now is officially announced his retirement. Five. What was
it you want to talk about? Miss richardson the text
the quarterback situation with the cult. So I'll talk through
(01:26:18):
shut or down?
Speaker 27 (01:26:19):
Yeah, yeah, but that's up.
Speaker 2 (01:26:21):
Yeah, what are you doing?
Speaker 17 (01:26:24):
I was just laying out outside and then I'm getting
ready to go interview Bunbee.
Speaker 2 (01:26:28):
Shut up. I love him, that's my guy.
Speaker 1 (01:26:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 17 (01:26:33):
Is he another one of your best friends?
Speaker 2 (01:26:35):
Seriously, you must reference him and he will say nothing
but great things about me. Period into story. But that's
some of reason why we call it. He might call
him the whitest man in America, the whitest man in America. Vanessa,
He's not wrong.
Speaker 13 (01:26:46):
I mean, everybody knows.
Speaker 17 (01:26:47):
Everybody knows that.
Speaker 2 (01:26:48):
All right, walk me through, Daniel Jones here, what the
hell's going on in your beloved town.
Speaker 17 (01:26:55):
They say that if you've got a quarterback competition, if
you've got two quarterbacks, you've got none. And I couldn't
agree more. I couldn't agree more. You know, you're talking
about a city that went from Peyton Manning to Andrew
Luck and after Andrew retired out of nowhere for a while,
for years, the Colts were you know, basically nursing home
(01:27:17):
for quarterbacks that were getting ready to retire.
Speaker 18 (01:27:21):
And then you know, when.
Speaker 17 (01:27:23):
Anthony Richardson was drafted. I liked it, but it was
a small sample site. He didn't play a lot at Florida.
He was very inconsistent. He's got a cannon for an arm.
But you know, there wasn't a lot of there wasn't
a strong track record, and so it, you know, was
a draft where it's like, Okay, we'll see what happens.
Speaker 2 (01:27:44):
And I don't know.
Speaker 17 (01:27:45):
I mean, I'll be interested to see if they tanked.
I'll be interested to see if this is like a
move that they actually think.
Speaker 23 (01:27:52):
Can help them win.
Speaker 2 (01:27:53):
I don't know, but your buddies are not excited about this.
I'm assuming, yes, who are my buddies? Group chat saying
you got to be in a cults group chat, right
of some sort?
Speaker 17 (01:28:05):
I am in a group chat.
Speaker 19 (01:28:07):
The group chat is not excited.
Speaker 2 (01:28:08):
I think.
Speaker 17 (01:28:09):
I think the expectations for this season are measured, is
what we'll call them.
Speaker 2 (01:28:16):
Vanessa. I'm sorry that Matt would call you at a
at a low time at this point, He's given me
more analysis about this than you ever could. I'm sorry,
you know, cultre, but you know.
Speaker 17 (01:28:26):
What, honestly, Texans fans could feel very very fortunate rape shroud.
I mean, this is this is like to go from
decades of always knowing that the quarterback situation is in lockstep,
and then you look at what Dad and Daniels has
done in Washington. What a joke of a franchise that
(01:28:47):
a good quarterback can turn around. It's insane. I mean
it's it's the hardest position in sports to nail down
because there there are thirty how many NFL teams?
Speaker 2 (01:28:56):
Thirty two?
Speaker 17 (01:28:57):
Yeah, there are thirty two starting quarterbacks in the NFL.
Let's say maybe a third of them. It's that our
actual franchise, elite quarterbacks that could take you to a
super Bowl. I mean, it is the hardest position in
professional sports to nail down. And if you don't got it,
you don't got his hands.
Speaker 2 (01:29:17):
That's why she's space sitting and now ESPN star Vanessa
Richardson breaking it down like a mumm. Remember us, small folks,
when you make the big time the seriously, I mean,
when you leave us for good, which hopefully will be never,
but you are going to be such a star and
you're gonna know who Barry Sanders is, and I'm gonna
be so happy for you.
Speaker 17 (01:29:35):
Will I can tell it you. I will definitely know
who Barry is.
Speaker 2 (01:29:38):
Yeah, all right, tell Bonn I sent my best and
he needs to send us some Choe Burgers and bestie.
Speaker 17 (01:29:43):
Okay, all right, talk to you soon.
Speaker 19 (01:29:44):
Bye.
Speaker 2 (01:29:44):
That's Vanessa Richards and our friend ESPN and Space City
Home Networks. She was at the rocket shop yesterday. Didn't
get me any gear rude? Did you ask her to?
Speaker 7 (01:29:52):
Yes?
Speaker 17 (01:29:53):
You did?
Speaker 2 (01:29:53):
Yeah, Oh well, I guess that's my name is Paul.
That's between y'all and that's your news at noon. That
is a news dude, all right. Joe spotted with this
in fifteen minutes. This is the Matt Thomas Show at Ross.
I'm gonna give you some great advice. I've already given
you great insights. Now that's time for some great advice.
(01:30:18):
Twelve twenty the Sports Talk seven. I we've got Joe
a spotted joining us in about ten minutes from now
from Detroit. I feel like I want to send him
over to the to the Spike Store for James Coney
out for the Coney Island Dogs. You gonna talk about
hot dogs the whole time? No, because he'd be like,
what do you look, I'm major league manager? What there's
really very little bs with him. He's probably on the
(01:30:42):
best mood. I wouldn't be in the best mood. I
don't know how you could be. I mean, if I,
if I and I could say, how how you feeling?
I mean, I gotta be honest, We'll be walking on
some makeshells here because look, we've all, we've all had
disappointing performances in our life. I feel like my show
(01:31:03):
has been that way for the fifteen years. So you know,
when people say, how's the show going, it's fine, Jack
Clairy's pitching, Well, guys aren't hitting. It happens in the
course of a one hundred and sixty two game season.
They're still in first place. It to me Ross and
this is in all seriousness, it's about roster construction. The
roster right now is incapable. Okay, like who is under
(01:31:28):
Walker's underperformed all year generally speaking, mm hmm ds generally
speaking is underperformed.
Speaker 18 (01:31:36):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:31:36):
Carotene has done what it's expected, Payne has been an
uptick out two bays what we kind of expected, right
maybe even a slight ten chorte optimist over expectations are
better than last year. Right now? He had I think
a seven ninety ops last year and he's in there
still hovering around eight hundred this year. You've missed a
heart of your lineup order guy for four months. That hurts.
(01:31:59):
You are just throwing people up against the wall in
center field and you've and we were kind of teasing
by Kyle Tucker, you miss Kyle Tucker. Cam Smith did
not fulfill Kyle Tucker's role. Very few people would have
been able to do that. You thought after his great
spring in the first month of the season where he's
getting his feet wet and getting comfortable. But Cam is
(01:32:22):
just he's I mean he's platooning right now. It's a
long season, and yeah, he's platooning, and they're trying to
manage his workload. So there isn't a lot of lineup shifting.
There isn't a lot of let's try this guy. It
feels like to me that Joe changes the lineup almost
(01:32:45):
every single day. He's trying to find the hot hand.
He's trying to go off the metrics, he's trying to
go off of what this guy has done over in
the past. He's trying to make the lineup's best he
can now, Hey, sus Sanchez batt and Clinton up yesterday.
Probably wasn't on my Bengo card for a guy that
was over twenty one going in didn't get it, didn't
(01:33:08):
get any help. But frankly, entire lite, I mean, nobody,
nobody's on a good streak. There is no obvious what
are you doing decision that Joe Aspotta hasn't thought about.
There is nothing that goes is why is he seeing
a different game than I am. Well, some people would
(01:33:30):
disagree with you, but I get it. As I argue
with a call yesterday, his is Sanchez was going up,
the were going up against righties Christian Walker. It's not
like he had been hot hot hitting. He did get
a two hits yesterday, but he was like one for
his last fifteen or whatever it was. And generally speaking,
Sanchez is going to be better against righties and lefties.
And oh, by the way, we've seen this time and
(01:33:52):
time again. Joe does like to show confidence as guys,
and it's a vot of confidence with Sanchez in there.
On a personal level, we know he's a player's coach.
I mean, the reality is you're going paying your kore
at it. That's not bad for a one two three.
It's uh Correa's power is a little down. I had
(01:34:13):
a whole I've had a home run since that Boston series.
Am I correct on that? I don't remember. I mean
he's getting a lot of hits. Got one more, you
get one more yesterday the teams I hit the home
running New York, but not since then. The last game
is okay, that's okay, Okay, there you go. But not
only is this team not hitting, but they're not There's
(01:34:34):
not a whole lot of slug and that's a problem.
That's why the heart of the order is hard to
figure out. The only guy slugging, frankly is Josel Twov
with a little bit of uh yan Er Diaz. Well, yeah,
you don't have anybody who's like one of the most
feared hitters on the planet, like your note ever is is.
And in fifteen games corre is ops with the astros
(01:34:57):
is still eight eighty two. It's a very good he's
still hitting three thirty nine as an astro. He's getting hits.
He's been getting hits the last few games. Some others
have it. I think he's on a three game history
or something like that. Let me go, oh, let me
tell you something. There is not a single person. There's
not a room person. This room's implained about Carlo's Korea.
He has handled third base beautifully. He looks good, he
(01:35:18):
looks like he again, he's not twenty four year old
Carlos Korea. But nobody was insisting that when he was
signed here he was gonna be twenty four year old
Carlos Korea, right, I mean it was acquired from the Twins. No,
and he's a guy that I can pencil in the lineup,
in the middle of my lineup or the top third
of it. Every single day between now and the end
of the season. It feels like I've got to punch
his chance.
Speaker 1 (01:35:41):
Now.
Speaker 2 (01:35:41):
Is this illness? Is it slowing down Jeremy Payne a
little bit? Yeah, well apparently is it christ Did he
get it from Christian Xavier too or did he give
it to Christian Javier? How's he doing? I don't know, Well,
we can ask, because I don't know at this point.
I don't think he's I don't think Joe knows what
he's gonna do pitching wise. In Baltimore now, they've been
kind of more secretive this year than had been in
years past. Mm hmm, well, I think they've had a
(01:36:01):
lot of question marks. I mean, get eight and eight
starters on the eye out one point. Yeah, all right,
Speaking of Joey's going to join us here in just
a couple of seconds. Let's get to him and then
we'll get to you after that. Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven nine zero.
Speaker 7 (01:36:17):
Joe A.
Speaker 2 (01:36:18):
Spota is next here on the Matt Thomas Show. Ross
probably the man joining us now would certainly love a
plate of jbr M barbecue. Right now, Joe Aspota with
us from Detroit, Skip Hower things.
Speaker 19 (01:36:31):
I'm doing well, guys here Detroit raining right now. Hopefully
clear is.
Speaker 2 (01:36:36):
Up for game time. Hey, my partner here, Ross is
going to do the postgame calling show. Let's pray for
a three hour rain delay. What do you say, come
on man.
Speaker 19 (01:36:46):
No, no, no, no enough, we you know, we we
need this game to start on time. It looks like
he's going to be clear for for game time. But
right now, uh yeah, it's pretty well outside all.
Speaker 2 (01:36:58):
Right, Well, thank you for the weather date update on
your squad. Look, you can move on up around. You
could move guys in and out you've tried, You've in
combination of things. Do you want to chalk this up
to dog days a summer? Is this a team wide funk?
Where are you right now? As you've seen your team
unfortunately not be competitive the last couple of days.
Speaker 19 (01:37:21):
This is this is baseball, man, I is August. It's
late grinding through things. You know, the guys are are grinding.
They they're preparing himself very well. Now when it's time
when the game starts, it's taking us were having difficulty
executing our game plan, which is which.
Speaker 2 (01:37:42):
Is part of the game. This is what happens in
a long season.
Speaker 19 (01:37:45):
Now, our job is to walk in every day with
a winning attitude. You know, we we're going to do
whatever it takes to put ourselves in the best position
to win today and not talk about yesterday. You know,
today's a new day and we got we got you know,
we got Hunter on the mound. We're going to prepare
ourselves to to put a height against Coogle.
Speaker 2 (01:38:07):
I want to ask this. I know that Jeremy was
kind of feeling it this weekend. I know that you
had to leave Christian Hobber off the mound earning the
game on Sunday. Is there any sort of sickness going
to the team right now or is just a couple
of remote guys.
Speaker 10 (01:38:20):
You know, just just a couple of remote guys.
Speaker 2 (01:38:22):
I think it.
Speaker 19 (01:38:22):
You know, we there's been like a like a bug
around and some of these guys, well, you know, they're
under the weather a little bit, but that's that's part
of when you are, you know, at home with your
family and your kids, and you know, that's how I
consider our clubhouse. This is a family, and we are
around each other all the time. So some of these
stuff it's going to spread around. But right now, you know,
(01:38:44):
things are the guys are feeling better, and those guys
that had the little we're not feeling well, they're starting
to feel better.
Speaker 2 (01:38:51):
You know, no one's going to ever question it.
Speaker 28 (01:38:54):
They do.
Speaker 2 (01:38:54):
They're ridiculous about the game plan, the approach going in.
But when the game gets going, are there things like
maybe taking a pitch, not taking a pitch, trying to
go the other way not go the other way? Are
there little intricacies that maybe you're not seeing right now
from this team that maybe you saw earlier in the year,
Or am I just trying to get really micro on
(01:39:15):
this trying to figure out why the team is struggling
offensively these days.
Speaker 19 (01:39:19):
You know what, at the end of the day, you
have a game plan, and sometimes it comes down to
the fundamentals of the game. Sometimes it comes down to fighting,
grinding in a bat, doing.
Speaker 10 (01:39:29):
Whatever it takes.
Speaker 19 (01:39:30):
You know, when you get too strikes, hit ball the
other way, you know, it's it, you know, making the starter,
you know, work, let me take a few more pitches.
You know, sometimes you've got to do things that are
uncomfortable to become comfortable. So we're trying to do those things.
Speaker 1 (01:39:46):
We do it.
Speaker 10 (01:39:48):
We've been doing it lately.
Speaker 19 (01:39:49):
The last couple of games we have not It has
not work out our way, and sometimes it's about fighting.
Sometimes it's about who wants it more than the other team,
you know, that's the mess such that we always continue
to preach our guys that sometimes when things get tough,
you got to be tougher. You have to fight, and
(01:40:09):
you know the fights in there. It just things haven't
gone our way to the last the last two or
three games.
Speaker 2 (01:40:14):
You mentioned maybe taking some more pitches as far as
an approach, and we kind of talked about when estock
paratus went down that that was a big piece of
the lineup that was missing. But what exactly what does
that mean? Like in practice, you just talk to guys
because you want guys to stay within themselves but maybe
be more patient. But also if the guys out there
throwing strikes, you can't just sit there and take pitches correct.
Speaker 19 (01:40:35):
But you know, another thing is you know they're not
always going to throw strikes. That's the part of the
game that yes, the guys throwing strikes, but once they're
head in the account, they're just not going to continue
to throw the ball in the box. So us recognizing
is where they go with their mythis what pitches do
they want us to chase when they're ahead? And if
we are overly aggressif now we see pitches that we
(01:40:58):
normally don't swing at that on the edges that we
usually take, we're chasing because because we find ourselves on
our heels and so that's the balance when he comes
to having an approach. You know, we know we have
the tendencies of the pitchers, we have faces pitchers in
the past. Now is us staying within ourselves, not trying
(01:41:19):
to do too much, trust to plan and fight.
Speaker 10 (01:41:21):
Through our back and and that's that's what leads you to.
Speaker 19 (01:41:26):
Good offensive games like we saw in that series against
the Yankees against the Red Sox in Miami, where we
grind it and we got the starters out of the
game in four or five innings. And we need to
kind of go back to that. And we saw some
of that, yes, we Flairty where he was high pitch
counts to three or four innings and and and we
were we were right there and then things just got
(01:41:47):
out of just got out of our hands.
Speaker 2 (01:41:50):
Astro's manager Joe Spotta was here on a Sports Talk
seven ninety. What did you see that you like from
Spencer Arraghatty yesterday and what does he need to improve on?
Speaker 19 (01:41:59):
You know, I think the last you know, every start
he's gotten, he's gotten better. He stuff's gotten better, Yester.
The first two innings it was a ton of strike,
sweeper fastball, uh some through some really good changes against
some lefties. So so you started seeing the signs of
the Spencer that we've seen in the past. Now is
once you get into the middle, middle of the game
(01:42:21):
and you start building up the pitchcownt seven, you know,
the sixty seventy pitches, keeping the quality of pitches going,
you know, limiting the walks. You know they're falling behind hitters.
That's when hitters kind of capitalize the same way we
do against our opponents, when we start seeing the pitchcown
go up, our bats get better. He just got to
be able to you know, finish some of those get
(01:42:41):
some of those hitters up.
Speaker 2 (01:42:43):
Joe. I've tried to avoid getting into a deep injury
conversation with you because it's been a broken record, unfortunately,
And I want to talk about one player We've not
talked about a lot. It's going to be playing today
for the Corpus Christie Hooks and that Jordan Alvarez. Can
you definitively and maybe there's not a definitive answer to it.
What do you want to see? What is the game
plan from an organizational standpoint to say, Okay, all this
(01:43:07):
time away, the rehab, going down to West Palm, it's
all paid off. He's coming up here. He's gonna play
for you. You're gonna put him in the heart of
your lineup and hopefully he stays healthy the rest of
the season.
Speaker 19 (01:43:18):
Yeah, you know what, For me, to be honest, I
really not looking out the outcome of the game, like
performance wise, you know, I'm not looking for him to
go there and get three or four hits today. I
just want what's what comes after the game, how he
feels postgame, and how he feels tomorrow morning. If he
(01:43:40):
feels good and he's able to play tomorrow Wednesday, I'm
feeling great. So for me, I'm not really looking at
how many a bass equality at bath You're done, is
a great hitter? All I want to hear that Joey
felt good. I'm ready to go tomorrow, and then we
could continue to move forward and building building him up
(01:44:01):
to get him back at some point.
Speaker 2 (01:44:05):
Do you want him in the outfield at all during
this time down there or does that come when he
comes to see you.
Speaker 19 (01:44:11):
You know, we one day at a time. Right now,
he's going to DH and we are focusing on just
trying to get as many as the bats we can.
You know, if we put him in the outfield, which
we probably would during this rehab, the problem with that
will be if we you know, he has him play
on the field for a few months. So if he's
(01:44:31):
six innings and he needs to come out of the
game because of the length of the game, he could
miss out on a fewer bats, and I want him
just to try to get as many as a bass
as possible, and the best way to do that is
you're dhing. You lead him off and just let him
control the volume of swings and the volume of the
game as he goes.
Speaker 2 (01:44:50):
In that DH spot.
Speaker 19 (01:44:52):
If he feels good and we could get him in
the outfield, let's go for it. But right now, DH,
let's try to get as many as the bats as possible.
Want to make sure that he feels good postgame and
tomorrow morning a.
Speaker 2 (01:45:03):
Couple more minutes here with Joe Spotif from Detroit Astros
and Tigers here tonight on Sports Talk seven ninety. You
lost Josh Hater for the regular season. You've got Brian
Obray now as your closer to me. The indirect effect
of that is, I think Brian Bradw's got closer stuff.
It could probably close for ninety percent of the teams
around baseball. You're now going to be asking some guys
(01:45:23):
that were your fifth, sixth inning, midleverage guys to be
in some higher spots. And I think right now you're
kind of thirsty to find that guy that wants to
take that seventh inning from anybody in this Astros bullpen.
Speaker 19 (01:45:34):
And we've had guys that have shown capabilities of doing that.
But you're right, you know they they're going to be
exposed to more of those big moments the next six weeks,
and I know that they're capable of doing that. They
have shown the toughness and the ability to do it,
you know. But it is different now when we get
(01:45:57):
to all this September right, the stage becomes much larger
and now it's us helping them manage that volume, those
big innings, those big moments, because we know that they
have this stuff is the toughness to do it. It's
just making sure that they know how to do it
day in day out.
Speaker 2 (01:46:17):
The chas McCormick making his bid, is he telling you
he wants to close it games out?
Speaker 1 (01:46:23):
You know?
Speaker 19 (01:46:23):
I I hit my hat to chast because he understand
them the situation that we've been the last two days
for sure. And as a professional man, he's he's a joe.
I understand, I get it. I go out there and
do it. You know, he's not a pitcher, uh and
we'll know that, but he's a team he's a team player.
That's a class act. What he's doing, and I have
(01:46:45):
a lot of respect for him for doing what you
know what he's done the last the last few days.
Speaker 2 (01:46:49):
And hopefully you never had to see him anymore this
season on the Man, to be honest with you, Skip,
that would be great. Thanks Joe for the time as always.
All right, guys, you'll see Joe spotted with us from
Detroit Astros and Tigers shattle. I mean, he's been great.
I don't want to see anymore. I'm done. I would
like to see him get a safe No, no, no, no, no,
what it's matter with you me? No, Chaz is getting
(01:47:11):
out chomping up innings, Baby, I am done with the
Chazz chomp on the mound. At least it's something, at
least if you're going to lose ten nothing we get
entertained with Chas McCormick on the mound is out there
spinning an eighty plus Baby. I'm good, Okay, find it,
I'm good seven one three two one two five seven
(01:47:33):
ninety seven one three two one two five seven nine
zero twelve forty seven in the PM here on Sports
Talk seven hoety many thanks to Joe Spotta for joining
the show weekly as he does yeah, you know, it's
(01:47:57):
hard to kind of wrap your head around sometimes, but
you have to be more in tune with a good
process rather than good result. I feel like, especially in
a game like baseball, for example, if we look at
the result the last two games, you would say Chas
McCormick is the best relief pitcher on this team. He
needs to be in more relief appearances. But that's obviously
(01:48:18):
not realistic. You have to look at a little bit
more than that. So how much of it is that's
just baseball that we can sweep away, how much of
it is the Astros need to improve their processes and
Joe did talk about that with the approach and taking
more pitches, being more patient, not going so much outside
the strike zone, making guys work. So it's good in theory,
(01:48:40):
but I will point out again Jeremy Pania took the
first two pitches yesterday and then he's down oh two
in the count, So you have to have better pitch
recognition and all that type of stuff, and it's just
not been great for the Astros the last few days.
And there's also a factor too that's very sensitive that
a manager's not going to answer. But if you don't
(01:49:01):
have enough personnel that can compete at the major league level.
You're going to be hurt. And look, Melton, Turmel, who
else am I thinking about? I mean Cam Smith has
he's regressed. He's regressed. I mean looks he's a rookie.
He's a rookie. Notations are low, right. I mean Dubon
(01:49:23):
at the plate is just not very good. He's very nice,
he's a great utility guy. But there's no slug. It's
not going to be a hard of the lineup guy.
I mean, Sanchez is struggling Sanchez, but Santche' is a
manjor league player. Sanchez is just going through it. I'm
just saying there are gonna be guys during this stretch
of the last thirty games, give or take, that just
(01:49:46):
wouldn't be on a lineup card five days a week,
and the Astros are having to use it. I mean
saying what you all about Jake Myers. The Jake Myers
loss has hurt this team because he was having a
great season offensively and you never worried about his defense. No,
Jake Melton's out there making defensive plays. Taylor Tremmell can
play defense. There they've been solid defensively. It's just they
have they have to get better at the plate, and
(01:50:07):
they need they need guys to be themselves mostly. We've
been talking about this a thousand times over and over.
Heanerdyas and Christian Walker, who we've seen flashes from them here.
They are who they are, but they haven't been consistent enough.
And jord On Alvarez is the cornerstone of this lineup
and he's been out since May third, and I mean
(01:50:29):
if there is tremendous pressure in him, but you know what,
you're major league player making really good money. It's gonna
come with the territory. Yeah, you need a talent influx.
It's not like if if Kyle Tucker and Bregman and
Alvarez in this lineup and they were underperforming and not
scoring runs, and you'd be saying, Okay, this is a
team that's just not executing. But this is not the
(01:50:52):
team that was created when the start of the season,
even with injuriasy, with guys having slumps. Christian Walker's had
a season long slump. He's been better lately since what
July first, been significantly better frankly, but two hitch yesterday, Yeah,
I mean he's yeah, let's go man. He needs it.
(01:51:14):
He needs he needs a like a an amazing September,
because I don't think it's fair to put the way
of the world on your down, Alvarez. I mean, guys
hadn't played but a handful of games this year. Well
they handful. I see what you did, twenty nine games.
He's played seven hundred even ops for Christian Walker this
year he gets seven twenty five. That means he's at
(01:51:36):
a good September. He's been over he's been over eight
hundred the last couple of years. James and Alvin at
twelve fifty two on The Matt Thomas Show with Ross James,
What do you have today?
Speaker 12 (01:51:46):
Oh?
Speaker 16 (01:51:46):
Thank you gentlemen for thee my call.
Speaker 2 (01:51:48):
Listen.
Speaker 16 (01:51:50):
I was watching UH the pre game yesterday and they
retired Billy Wagner UH uniform number, and I was I
was trying to go back in time and say, what
did he really do to justify him being a Hall
of Famer. And I'm trying to say, I know he
had over ten point some eria. He he never won
(01:52:14):
a playoff series with the Astros. As matter of fact,
in ninety eight. All I can remember Billy Watner doing
was giving up a walk off home run to the
third string catcher in San Diego and the Astros had
a hell of a.
Speaker 18 (01:52:30):
Team in nineteen ninety eight, and the nine years that.
Speaker 16 (01:52:34):
He played with the Astros, he never won a playoff game.
And I'm wondering what justified him retiring the number, other
than striking out a bunch of average Major leaguers in
accomplishing I want to say, basically nothing. He just stopped
(01:52:57):
pile some numbers. Do that make him all? I'm gonna
hang up and listen.
Speaker 2 (01:53:13):
Ten point zero three e r A in the playoffs
for Billy Wagner. It's not good.
Speaker 12 (01:53:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 22 (01:53:20):
You know what.
Speaker 2 (01:53:20):
If we're crushing Jeff Bagwell for his playoff performances, I'm
crushing Billy Wagner. He's the worst. Doesn't deserve it, shouldn't
be in the Hall of Famer. Should the Baseball Hall
of Fame retract his invitation? Uh? Seven time All Star
Billy Wagner, Wait, he got MVP votes. Wait this can't
(01:53:43):
be right. Eighth and all time saves. It's pretty good.
Speaker 4 (01:53:49):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:53:49):
I think his ERA plus and his k per nine
are like among the best in baseball history. Career era
of two point three to one. That's pretty good. Four
and twenty two saves, that's pretty good. Almost twelve hundred strikeouts,
Oh yeah, but he only pitched nine hundred innings. Oh
you only pushed nine ins and he got nearly twell
(01:54:12):
hunerd strikeouts and that, but only pitched nine hundred. I actually,
and even before Billy Wagner made it in, I'm okay
with the argument that relievers shouldn't get in because they're
just the best of the worst pitchers. I I I'm
okay with Billy Wagner being in. It's not a travesty.
But if you want to gate keep in that way
that he only pitched nine hundred innings in his entire career,
(01:54:34):
where's where's I'm curious, just like out of the blue,
where where's Farmer Valdez on career innings? I can look
it up for you. Let me tell you he's got
a thousand innings. So he Fromber's already thrown over over
one hundred or almost one hundred and fifty innings more
than Billy Wagger ever did. Okay, you know what I'm saying.
(01:54:55):
Let's let's then let's chew this up a little bit
a number of high lever jinnings that Farmer Valdes's history.
Every inning is high leverage because it's your starting. The
first inning and the second inning don't carry the same
weight that the ninth inning with two on and two
zero zero the tie game. He's pitching more Thaig game
innings than anybody else. You're not lay and close. You
(01:55:16):
know what I'm saying. M hm uh impactful moments. Uh huh,
Billy Wagner, I mean I got this is that this
is about any closer. The great closers are brought in
in the most tumultuous times. Not every patch of very
single time, but most the Billy Wagner pitching the seventh
inning games in a seven to one game unless he
(01:55:37):
was getting worked done, Yeah exactly. Sometimes you got to
give him plan in a low leverage situation just to
get him some more. Frankly to me, uh, not every
picture is created equal. Some are built for the distance,
but some are like you know what, ninth inning, two on,
I need three strikes to get the guy out. I
got a guy I'm gonna trust over somebody else. And
(01:55:58):
that's what makes the great closers is that he's gonna
go in there, Mariano Rivera, Is anyone going to be
smirch Marion and Rivera's career, Mark, I mean, regardless of
whether he's the start of really were one of the
best pictures of all time. He took one pitch and
made a fifteen twenty year career out of it, and
it was unhittable for ninety percent of it. I am
not arguing against Billy Wyger. I'm saying I think, to me,
(01:56:18):
it's it's arguable. Uh yeah, there're no when I think
of sure fire closers, Billy didn't come to mind. I'm
glad Billy got in. He was one of my favorite
players as I was a young broadcaster. But I could
see why.
Speaker 12 (01:56:36):
But to.
Speaker 2 (01:56:38):
I mean, it also took him ten times to get
ten go arounds here when it was close, he had
to wait. H That's why I don't think it's a
slam dunk case. But is Kate for ninety But the
reason why you shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame
because serious, that's when you kind of lost me real quick.
We go to Ryan before the top of the hour
on seven one Hittle, Ryan, I.
Speaker 23 (01:57:00):
Don't want to hear this Billy Wagner slander. This is
this is crazy talk.
Speaker 7 (01:57:07):
Okay.
Speaker 23 (01:57:08):
I get Ross's point. Relief pitchers, you're the best of
the worst. However, I would argue that with Matt, a
closer is a whole different designation of pitcher. In my opinion,
a closer is while they are technically a relief pitcher,
they are doing a very different job. But come on, man,
why we're sitting here cutting hairs over Houston great achieving
(01:57:32):
that ultimate goal, going into the hall wearing an Astros hat.
That's legit. And I and the fact that people are
even calling I heard him talk, I didn't. I heard
his name, and I didn't even They just went right
out of my head because I was like, you got.
Speaker 2 (01:57:46):
This, yeahs James and Allen's a good friend of ours,
the outside pitch guy, but he's he's got some whack tags.
He knows it too. High leverage plate appearances pitched for
frombers seven forty one for Billy Wagner's seventeen eighty, so
one thousand more high leverage played appearances. I mean, can
I make this blanket statement? Yes, there are probably a
group of pictures that would be considered all the greats
(01:58:08):
of the great that probably don't want the ninth inning,
and Billy Wagner's DNA says, I want the ninth inning,
and all the great closers. Goose Gotts is one of
the ninth inning, Mario Rivera one of the ninth inning,
Trevor Hopton one of the ninth inning, Kan Giles one
of the ninth inning. Ken Giles that wanted to hit himself.
I just think that there. I don't treat closers to
me as guys that can't do with starting a rotation
(01:58:31):
and you know, and if you can do bo, thanks
for the phone call. Ryan. Like John Smoltz to me
is great wins, two hundred wins and two hundred saves.
He was able to do both. I don't know if
there's a whole lot of John Smoltz out there. Do
you think Justin Verlander would be a guy that I
want to go in the ninth inning of a game
fresh with not having a warm up. I don't know.
He could have done it, absolutely, he just was.
Speaker 7 (01:58:54):
That.
Speaker 2 (01:58:54):
That's kind of the point though, that Justin Verlander was
never going to be a closer because he's one of
the best pictures and the best pictures pitch more inings.
So I said to me, it's kind of a valid argument.
I'm not gonna smirche. I don't think I'm going to denigrade.
If I see a guy that's a ninth inning guy
that I can use three times in a week and
can get me, that's as much value to me as
(01:59:17):
the guy that gives me something every five days. It's
not a dinner Gray Shorty, either one of him. It's
just that's who that guy is. If I can use
him three times a week to get me three saves, boom,
I'm all for it because teams value the closer ninth
inning game over. Bobby Jinks got the rest of his
soul Chicago White Sox when he was playing in ten
(01:59:39):
to fifteen years ago. I mean, good gracious, he came
on the mountain. He was He scared the living crap
out of you. You know, he was also eating Chicago
style dogs on the mound. He was big. Is the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross So I checked my phone
during the break front of the show. I will keep
(02:00:00):
his name anonymous. Is that call about Wagner was some
of the dumbest blank I've ever heard. There was no
walk off in San Diego. Yeah, yeah, no walk off
in San Diego. We just fought out long. No, I
don't think so. We gave up a home run in
ninety eight but I think it was in Houston. Okay, whatever, whatever,
That ninety eighteen pissed me off. Like I said, I
(02:00:22):
kind of hear arguments of the contrary, but that's just
as a blanket sabment of relievers, not necessarily an indictment
of Billy Wagner. Once you moved the goalpost of relievers
are in, Billy Wagner should be in.
Speaker 7 (02:00:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:00:31):
And then I went and check Facebook. And since we
don't do non Florida, we can't do Florida stories. We
should on Fridays. We're only when I'm in Florida I do.
I do a Florida story for you that I'm going
to wrench in here quickly, Okay, and we get back
to sports, sports and more sports, because that's what we
here are here for, h Rossie. I'm going to invite
(02:00:52):
you on a cruise. Now, you and I will not
be going together on this cruise, but I'm going to
invite you with a c one of those cruises on
from match game. Uh No, passengers. We'll be able to
pack lightly for this journey, which will be leaving in February,
and it's going to be going for eleven days. It
will deport depart Port Miami on February ninth. That will
(02:01:15):
include stops in Aruba, the Bahamas, and Jamaica. The ship
will return to Miami on February the twentieth. Okay, sounds
pretty good right. Name of the travel agency handling is
called the Bare Necessities Tour in travel it is the
Big Nude Cruise. Oh excellent. Here are the rules? What
(02:01:36):
are the rules? Matt Attendees are required to wear clothes
in the dining rooms, thankfully, but not at the pool
side buffet. Oh, come on. Clothing must be worn when
port authorities are on board inspecting the ship, and guests
must exercise modesty when they are in port. Individuals are
also expected to be clothed during the captain's reception introduction.
(02:01:59):
The cruise employees will not be nude. If you want
to inside cabin will cost you two thousand dollars for
eleven days. It doesn't seem too bad, right, No? If
you want a three bedroom via villa, thirty three thousand
dollars three bedrooms for thirty three k. The website I'm
with free Loop the webs The website advertises theme nights, workshops,
(02:02:22):
and the unique entertainment you've come to expect to enjoin
a bear cruise b A R E B A R
E B E air A R fair. So you're gonna
be going. According to Tampa Bay Times, there are fewer
than twenty five percent of cabin's loft for this cruise.
(02:02:44):
I mean a lot of parrot heads on that cruise.
I've made this blanket statement before, not that I ever
been anywhere in a newdist area before, never been a
hippie hollow in Austin. I did as a kid by accident.
Oh okay, why are you winking at me? Because I
got some of my I don't know. It was when
(02:03:08):
I went to that swingers convention, nippy hollow swingers conventions
all on accident. Being at the Stardus was a pure accident.
I was just looking to gamble and I was the
only person that didn't ever bracelet on. I'm going to
presume that ten percent of the people that are on
this nude cruise are going to be very very attractive
(02:03:30):
under Okay, my point is at least ninety percent will
not be attractive. Okay, I don't know. If I want
to go on eleven day cruise, you'll probably find picks.
What's it called. I'm not it's it's it's fine. I'll
do my work laptop if I get fired. You guys
know why? All right? It's the name of the group
is called Bare Necessities Tour and Travel a r E.
(02:03:54):
Bare Necessities. I'm just gonna put Bare Necessities cruise, big
nude boat, the nude cruise. All right, let's get some
images here. What the hell?
Speaker 18 (02:04:07):
What?
Speaker 17 (02:04:08):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (02:04:08):
These can't be real. Oh no, I don't think I
should be clicking on these. I'm gonna again. I'm gonna
be safe in saying ninety percent of them are unattractive people. Correct,
that should be fully clothed. I don't think anybody is
(02:04:28):
about under the age of fifty year So why would
you want to go on to be out from attractiveness?
I guess sorry, go ahead, No, I'm just saying I
don't know why you'd want to go see fifty plus people,
fifty year old plus people. What if you just like
to let it all hang out, Matt, But I don't.
It's to be uninhibited. Well yeah, well some of these
(02:04:49):
people do. There's really no area in tallying being nude
in You have to wear clothes to go to work,
you have to wear clothes to go out. You are
not you can be naked in your house. Yeah I can't.
I'm not gonna there's there are pictures, but I am
not going to click them up.
Speaker 7 (02:05:08):
Oh do not.
Speaker 2 (02:05:08):
I want you to keep your job. I don't need
Bob Pittmanson in a group. Hey, guys, uh, team, I
gotta invite for Microsoft teams for hr Anger management. That's
for you.
Speaker 12 (02:05:24):
I just.
Speaker 2 (02:05:26):
No, thanks. Good looking bikinis. If you're fit, God love you.
But I guess there's a lot of flab. And then
some people just like to go and be free. Matt.
Let them live their lives. Clearly there's enough interest in this.
They're charging thirty three hundred bucks for a villa. What
do you think about the people that are working the crews?
Speaker 28 (02:05:47):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (02:05:47):
You got If you're the comedy writer, you know there's
some comics on those things. Oh my god, does he
do nude comedy? Do nude comedy? Like you need to
put some clothes on and probably would making enemy jokes
kind of thing. I don't know, it's just things you
check while you're trying to do a four hour major
market of sports program. You sound like you want to go,
(02:06:07):
but I do not want to go. I'm first of all,
I'm too pasty white. I don't even I don't know
what better way to get at ten than it be
a completely nude I was about to say, do you
think guys should go? Yeah? I think you and the
missus should go and report back during All Star break. Oh,
you see, you're already planning it. You really want to go,
(02:06:28):
You just don't want to admit it. No, I need
to get No, I can't. I don't want to my
out binal body being seen by other people. I'm sorry
and brought this up, but I just wanted to. We
need a little small segue from the intensity of that
has been the Astros disappointing last couple of days. It's
a must win Tuesday, you claiming it. No, it's funny.
(02:06:53):
They've had two terrible beatdowns and their lead has not
shrunk at all. Beauty of Baseball lose ten to nothing,
we're one to nothing. Does the winner of the American
League West get to ninety wins. What are we pacing
for now? I will say yes, well, okay, so let's
do this. If they're gonna if they're gonna play five
hundred the rest, I will say yes, yes, over ninety wins. Okay,
(02:07:17):
let me look at the standings. The Astros right now
are at sixty nine, fifty six thirteen above five hundreds.
So they played five hundred the rest of the way,
they would be eighty seven and seventy five. That's not ninety.
(02:07:38):
I said they're gonna get there. They're gonna play above
five hundred the rest of the way. The winner the
division of the Astros both ohning the division of the Astros.
I like it the Astros. I like your I like
your optimism. All right, we're gonna come back. Doo been
paying off this week? It has been, mister. You mean
you've put too many quality starts on Spencer Raghetty's agenda.
(02:07:58):
I'm gonna keep saying until it's gonna have and you're
gonna be boastful about it. Okay, Yeah, start calling you

Now Matt Thomas, Ross Viel It's a Matt Thomas show
with Ross Hi Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (02:15:12):
What twenty one on Sports Talk seven ninety is time
for us to find out what's happening around the National
Football League With all the headlines. Frankly, there isn't enough
NFL talk at our town. That's why we bringing Ross
to bring us the rewind. Thank you, Matt. Now, we've
talked a lot about things going on in the NFL,
including recently named starters. We mentioned Daniel Daniel Jones. We've
(02:15:37):
also mentioned Joe flaccoh we should have mentioned Daniel Jones
in Indianapolis now yes and taking over for Anthony richardson
week one starter, Joe Flacco the week one starter in Cleveland,
coach Kevin Stefanski with a vote of confidence quote, I
thought he's done exactly what we've asked him to do,
and I think we have a lot of confidence in him.
(02:16:00):
Flacco has been the only healthy quarterback. Also since it
started camp. You got your door, Sanders, can you pick it?
Dealing Gabriel, others dealing with injuries, but Joe Flacco entering
his eighteenth season, starting Week one for the Browns against
the Cincinnati Bengals. That game is in Cleveland, I believe,
(02:16:23):
or is the Cincinnati It is in Cleveland, September seventh.
How we feel him? I mean yeah, for sure, because
I mean he's going to throw a pick six at
least one, and the Bengals will score twenty eight of
their own, So thirty four right there from the Natty.
Can you believe he's even still in the NFL and
(02:16:45):
now he's also named a Week one starter. Yeah, I
mean case Keenum gotta love him. He's still in the NFL. Yes, Yes,
where is he? You had to ask that question, he'd
have to go somewhere. You continue, He's playing with the
Barcelona Dragons.
Speaker 19 (02:17:01):
He is not?
Speaker 2 (02:17:02):
Okay, is the Chicago Bears? Apparently?
Speaker 1 (02:17:05):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (02:17:06):
Yes, Matt. We also mentioned Daniel Jones named the starting
quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts. He is the eleventh quarterback
to start since Andrew luck retired, Sam Mellinger Longhorn Legend.
Among those names was Philip Rivers, Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz, Matt,
Ryan Gardner, Minshew, Anthony Richardson. It's not been great for
(02:17:32):
the Indianapolis Colts. And then you kind of just added
Daniel Jones under that pile of mid I mean, you know, Robert,
that was the dad right the sun was Jim Jim
he passed. Jim's kids are running it, Okay. Don't you
think that they're going to clean house at the end
of the year. I probably if things don't go well,
(02:17:54):
I mean, which they probably won't. Here's the reality if
you're a general manager. And again this is the second
time I brought this subp that it's worth of repeating.
If you have a top five pick and you pick
a quarterback and that quarterback does not work out, it
screws your franchise. For years, they've had no excitement, no
enjoy in Indianapolis a lot. I mean, they went eight
nine last year. I don't know how the hell they
(02:18:15):
did it. The team is gonna finish second in this division,
and even close it could be the Jacksonville Jaguars. I
could see Indianapolis and Tennessee fighting for five wins. Guess
dependent on cam Ward and how good do you think
he's gonna be? Been kind of quiet. It feels like
for cam warden the Titans, it was quiet the night
(02:18:38):
the moment he got drafted. It was like cam Ward's
number one, number one pick in the draft. Mm hmm.
By the way, then Titans are not gonna wear those
god awful order jerseys anymore. Get their ass beat twice
and said we're enough's enough. Oh they're not gonna wear them. Nope,
They're not good. I mean, it doesn't matter. They're also
getting a new stadium too. We all got to move
on from the oilers. It's not they did anything, all right.
(02:19:00):
Bill Barnwell came out with an article Matt five teams
to decline in twenty twenty five. Okay, man the Coulter
on the go ahead. Well, the culture on the list,
and then everybody else made the playoffs last year. Okay,
So they're saying the Colts could be worse than eight
nine last year. All right, I'm gonna go with Kansas
(02:19:23):
City being one of them. Wow, look at you, Kansas
City's on the list. You looked at this article, Bill Barnwell, No,
who else was really good last year? That's gonna take
a step back. Nope, let me just tell you go
ahead and then you can react. Commanders. They did make
(02:19:47):
the NFC champions. Little sophomore slump for the quarterback could
be Jaden Daniels and the Lions and the Vikings. Makes
sense because the starting is gone, you got a rookie
quarterback and the Lion lost both of their coordinators. Chiefs
and Lions on this list, Commanders, I can it makes
a little sense. I mean, the Chiefs did go fifteen
(02:20:07):
and two and go to the Super Bowl, So decline
could be. Well, here's the thing, not that far off.
You've gone fifteen and two, wouldn't you naturally, even though
you're maybe still an awesome tes it's thirteen and four
that Tenant clans to the climb. But is that really
a decline? Exactly? Dude. I was listening to a fantasy
football podcast and they're like, if you look at the
numbers for guys after two thousand yard seasons, all their
(02:20:28):
numbers go Yeah, nobody's having a back to back two
thousand yard season. Yeah, breaking frigging news. Okay, oh, quarterback
through for five thousand one year and he's only thrown
for forty six decline. There's a material decline after the
year after somebody rushes for two thousand yards. Yeah, because
nobody ever rushes for two thousand yards twice in a row. Now,
we will not have NFL RE one next week because
(02:20:50):
you're gonna be gone. Okay, we call it. No, you're
not coming, We'll call it hell. No, let's do this
right now. Let's not hold ourselves to this. Okay, first blush.
Super Bowl teams. Wait, we had time opening days now
for like two weeks. I'm saying you're walking just right.
First blush, Blush, Ravens Eagles first blush. Bill's first blush. Okay,
(02:21:32):
you raise your eyebrows on the nine. They could bounce back.
Coleanhan's a great coach. The NFC wes is Christian McCaffrey's
twenty nine openly winnable. Okay, and Brockport has got his money.
We also mentioned this earlier at Trey Hendrinskin. Hendrickson remains
entrenched in his position on not playing the upcoming season,
(02:21:58):
Hendrickson telling Laura Ruttge that he and the team are
in close agreement on the total average annual salary of
the deal and the length, but not the total guaranteed money.
He ended his hold out on July thirtieth. He's been
holding in since then, but not practicing. So he goes
to the camp, he puts the gear on, he eats
(02:22:20):
the food, but doesn't practice. That's the way to get him,
not find I guess what a completely uncomfortable situation that
is for them. I'm not, He says. Recognition is not
something I'm chasing. I think I've made my statements clear.
Security is something that I value in telling my wife
where we're going to play. Those are the things that
matter to me. Got feeling deal by week one or
(02:22:45):
he missed his time, Well I would have had him traded,
but he would kick the tires on it, and nobody
wanted the trade for him. So he's got two options.
If they're agreeing on years and I think something, ill
got feeling something gets them if they've agreed on years
and money, just not on guarantees. But man, the Bengals
have been pretty steadfast. I played day games every single day.
(02:23:09):
They used to when you were your kids. They have
lights are now ross because see they didn't wire up
the lights to the stadium. Can you name the year
they got the lights? Nineteen twenty one? No, stop, Crosby Field. No,
when do the Cubs get their Oh? The Cubs? Yeah,
I'm sorry, I thought you'd been when the first night
games the Cubs get the night night game? The first
(02:23:30):
night game was Crosley Field. I know, I'm first night
like the Reds beat the Phillies or something like that.
There you go. I don't remember nineteen eighty seven, oh
when they got them? Yeah? Oh, I didn't know that. Yeah,
Ronald Ranking went to the game and everything. Really yeah,
oh dang it. Nineteen thirty five, you're rolling off by
a decade. Cincinnati beat the Phillies. Though, What do I
get for that? It was at Crosley Field? What do
(02:23:51):
I get for that?
Speaker 19 (02:23:52):
Firm?
Speaker 2 (02:23:52):
Handshacking and out of boy? Who could have told you
it was the Reds and Phillies? Come on, Wexler, I
think he wouldn't have got it. We'll have to ask
him before he comes in, because you're not listening to
sh He doesn't listen to us, No chance, okay, all right,
real quick, oh Hendrickson, I mean he's already there. Ross.
He wants to start getting paid. He knows he's not
(02:24:14):
going anywhere this year. Yeah, I'll go with you and
say he's gonna be signed by by the play by
the time I play week one. That's the NFO one.
Thank you, Matt, No, thank you? You did the heart?
Have you left? You're am? I nuts on the Niners
being sneaky on them this year. That's fine. It is
kind of sneak. So they're good because I I mean,
I could see Washington maybe taking a step back, Detroit
(02:24:35):
maybe taking a step back, Philadelphia probably stip all right,
I'm just throwing it out there. He wants some new blood.
And remember the texansers are new blood recently. If the
Texans go to the Super Bowl, become a fan, I
become a fan. And I when I mean fan, I
will be getting a jersey, No chance, I will be
(02:24:56):
getting a hat with horns on it, Okay, I will.
I'll be taking an l and saying they will never
make the Super Bowl with count of Arizona correct. And
I will go interview hal Hannah McNair often and pretend
that I'm a real journalist. You know what they call that? Yes,
what do they call it? Your age. I'll tell you
after to break. That's the radio t's right there. I'm
learning so fast. I'm about to be called a name
(02:25:18):
by the youngins. I'm a little nervous, is can you?
Can you say it on the air?
Speaker 19 (02:25:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:25:22):
Yeahllent, don't say it though, little drama seven one three
two one two five seven out he seven one three
two one two five seven nine zero. College football headlines
two things One. There is a guy named Josh Pate.
(02:25:43):
He's like a college football analyst. Ross. You heard the
name Josh Pate if you heard it? Okay, So Josh says,
the reason why the Big Ten is doing what they're
doing and trying to expand it is because they're really
giving you a completely prepossible, serious idea, hoping that you'll
take the deal that they originally said. They really wanted
(02:26:04):
to go to sixteen teams, and that's why they're throwing
the twenty four to twenty eight out. There's really no
intention of going to twenty four twenty eight. They just
want to get to sixteen. I totally believe that. Okay,
all right, I just wanted to see if that was
that made a little bit of sense. You've done that before,
in your life. Yeah, you over negotiate, like, honey, let
me go. You asked for a raise X, knowing you'll
(02:26:24):
probably get raised y, Like you say, let's go on
a vacation to Tahiti. Well, how does galveston' sound? Okay,
that's fine. So you admit it wasn't your first choice. No,
I'm saying that I love Galveston. Mister Texas appreciates Galveston.
(02:26:44):
I appreciate it. All right. I'll give you another example.
I want to buy a Maserati. How about a nice
full loaded suv? Exactly? Okay, there you go.
Speaker 20 (02:26:53):
Work.
Speaker 2 (02:26:54):
Yeah, you probably get out negotiated by your wife every
week week, I think three times. In the show began
in and b Yu is gonna have a bran new quarterback.
You remember the by jew who's no longer there too.
I can say that he says it. I'm not nothing.
Guy said wrong. I didn't say a word. You smile.
I said nothing because I'm a happy guy. So the
(02:27:14):
b Y Formerson person, the b why Jewish quarterback person
who got who got a piece ass and pro bone
not supposed to such a ridiculous now, Julane. So the
quarterback is going to be a true freshman. He was
spent last year at Stanford, I guess leaving. He left
(02:27:35):
high school early to go train at Stanford. Now he
is transferring to BYU. His name is bear Bachmeyer and
that's no big deal, right, first true freshman quarterback ever Blackmere,
I don't think so. First true freshman quarterback ever by
is he from munich Okay, here's the diva part. You
know what jersey number is gonna wear? Sixty ninety seven
(02:27:59):
forty seven forty seven? Why? Because you're an attention seeking whores?
What you are? What does the name? Does the number
have significance to him? I don't know, but it doesn't matter.
Just doesn't that number come with a neck roll and
unlimited steroids? Yes? I don't know why it is. I'm
sure it's a wonderful reason. Sorry, quarterbacks, you do not
(02:28:22):
have the jersey number forty seven. I'm old school that way.
I understand it doesn't matter. All right now, Jonathan, you
were gonna call me a name? What was the reason?
Why was called me a name? Again? Because I changed saying?
How I changed my stance on something? Oh the Texas?
Do you become a Texans fan? Yes? They win yes,
and you know what we call that is a bandwagon?
Speaker 19 (02:28:44):
Matt.
Speaker 21 (02:28:45):
How can you be missing Texas? If you never you're
not REPONTENTI all the way through. If I told you
right now, if you have base would have won last year.
I'll be a U bade basketball fan. What would you
call me?
Speaker 2 (02:28:54):
Welcome to the friend, Welcome to the party. Really yeah,
I'll accept. I don't care. I'm not gonna bandwagon, So
you're gonna be bandwagging uge football. If we put the
beatdown on you a week from Thursday, you it's a
week from Thursday from your beat down. I mean beat down,
I mean other embarrassment guys, Oh my god. I want
everybody to tune in sports the day after. Oh I do,
trust me, I do. I don't even care we get
(02:29:16):
blown out.
Speaker 21 (02:29:17):
I want everybody to call it in because if we win,
let me tell you, it's gonna be me talking the
whole show.
Speaker 2 (02:29:22):
You're welcome to talk to the whole show because I
probably not gonna be on the show on Friday. Sick.
And let me tell you something right now. Posted a
line for this year. No way, no chance, no how
SFA is beating Houston. No, there is no possibility you surprised. Zero,
(02:29:43):
it's okay, eleven, I don't know, twelve maybe that is
probably gonna be in ne stadium. Yeah, it's gonna be
like a home field. Matt, y'all even have cars up there.
Is there a line? Is there a line? There's not,
There hasn't because Vegas is like, we're not gonna embarrass you.
It's gonna be like it'd be like a seventy point line.
