Speaker 1 (00:01):
Is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross ten.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Oh one an h Town good morning? Or is it it's
a Monday edition to the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
This is Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Number fifty eight per cal Raley. It's a two run shot,
second home run of the inning for Seattle and the
Mariners have a seventh to nothing le.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
So I put a poor question up to decide what
would be the topic A and a Monday edition of
Matt Thomas Show with Ross. There were four options Sports Survey, okay.
One was the Astros got swept. One was the Texans
now zero to three. One was you of H's awesome three,
oh baby or Cheddar or Swiss cheese. And the winner

(01:04):
of said contest, by the way, seventeen percent text is
that one three, so that will not be topa ka okay.
The tie for second was the Astros got swept, and
the U of H is awesome three and oh at
twenty five percent. The winner at thirty three percent is
Cheddar or Swiss cheese. And we are a man of

(01:24):
our word, we will do a very quick summation of
our thoughts. First of all, both are delightful cheeses. Okay, yes,
I would agree. You cannot go wrong with a Swiss
mushroom combo on a chicken sandwich or a hamburger cheddar.
If you're going, you're gonna go probably good cheddar cheese

(01:44):
in your enchiladage, so says my wife. You gotta go
with a good sharp cheddar when it comes to putting
it on your hamburger. Cheddar cheese would always go well
on your in your faeta tacos, and cheddar cheese not
chose as good.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Mixing it as part of a caeso not so much.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
And that it's my thoughts on cheddar or Swiss, your
thoughts cheddar and jack is the proper way to make keeso. Okay,
let's say just flat cheddar is not accepted. No, no, okay,
uh yeah. The versatility of of cheddar is undeniable. I mean,
it's the top cheese of all time. It's not the
most flavorful cheese. Whether you want to go with a
parmesan perhaps or something else, or a blue cheese. The

(02:22):
pungency of a blue cheese blue cheese, and you and
I are team blue cheese. But you have the versatility
of the smoother, mild and the sharp with a little
bit more bite, correct and you can. The versatility of
Cheddar is unmatches the greatest cheese of all time. Yeah,
but Swiss should is a sweet is good. It's tier
two if cheer. If Cheddar is getting married in the
bridal party, you've got Swiss. It's like a matron of

(02:44):
honor if you will, Swiss is tier two. But it's
it's great.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
Okay, all right?

Speaker 2 (02:49):
That is topice. The rest of it is, what the
hell is that this weekend? Horrible? You ought to be embarrassed,
horful Texans want to be embarrassed Astros. I mean, the
reality is that I'm and I've been thinking about this.
We drove home yesterday from like Charles had a great trip.
Listen to the game, Listen to the games.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
We listened to Robert Forgo that ball is here.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
The reality is the Mariners are a significantly better baseball
team than the Astros. It only took them one hundred
and fifty five games to prove it right in front
of our faces. It took them that time to wake up,
and they were hot. And I do feel like I
kind of gave myself a little false confidence when I

(03:39):
saw the the good performance against the Braves. I mean,
that wasn't super shocking. But the sweep against the Rangers
is when I I kind of convinced myself, Okay, they
can take to us. They're ready to go there. They
they've got something going. They were putting together great at
bats against Meryl Kelly and Jake de Gramman. Yeah, you
got some good starting pitching. They can take two to three.

(03:59):
And then the game started. And then, honestly, man, I
was doing the pregame on on Friday, and I'm just
looking at this lineup for lineup card and I'm sitting
there saying, oh my god, this Mariner's lineup is incredible.
And then you had Brian Wu going against Hunter Brown,
and unfortunately Hunter Brown gave up a couple of solo shots,

(04:20):
and that really, that was the one you really had
to have. You had to have that one with your ace,
and that doesn't even if they're playing the A's, I
would say, you have to have the Hunter Brown starts
down the stretch here to be successful. When they didn't
get that one, that's when I was really worried about
things unraveling.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
And then they did.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
When Randy or Rose Arena is your leadoff guy and
has had what two hits in the last two weeks,
and they haven't missed a beat. Cal Raley, Rodriguez Naylor,
who has been probably even probably more impactful than Suarez,
honestly started hitting. He has he has a He's got

(05:02):
forty seven home runs. He was hitting in sixth place
for them, And when your nine hole hitter is hitting salamis.
I hate JP Crawford just because I mean he seems
to kill the Astros at inopportune times. Yeah, their lineup
is deeper and better, they're starting, pitching is better.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
And really, honestly, the bullpen is better.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
If I would have told you two months ago that
the Seattle Mariners have a three game lead into the
final week of this regular season, I had kind of said, yeah, okay,
I kind of get it, but I didn't think it
would be turned out this way where the Astros and
Mariners were tied going in. Seattle was supposed to be
a wolful baseball team on the road. I didn't prove it.

(05:44):
Astro was supposed to be a good home team. And
it's funny I went on with my buddy Softy kJ
Rrow and Friday to you know, blank talk and they
want you back today. I'm sure they do that, probably
want me to do the whole hour if I could.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
But he's like, why also good at home?

Speaker 2 (05:59):
I said, honestly, I don't get the feeling that we're
just this done at home team.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
We're just I think we're steady Eddies.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Well, your gut feeling is correct, Matt, because our friend
Brian McTaggert tweeted this out. I just saw it a
few minutes ago. Astros went forty six and thirty five
at home. That's great. They started thirty two and fourteen,
they finished fourteen and twenty one.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
Well, I told him, well, you got that feet now.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
When I told him I was on the I said, honestly,
I said, a lot of this is the first of
the last three months of the Astro season. Really, post
All Star breaks, been about four fifty baseball.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
I said.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
A lot of this home feasting was when they had
those great Maids and June's it was that week before
the All Star Game, was that Texas was here and
somebody else I can't remember, but this has been a
different baseball team. They couldn't overcome the numerous numerous injuries.

(06:50):
They couldn't overcome the inconsistencies in the performances of some
of their key hitters, the dz Is, the Walkers, they
couldn't overcome the fact that Fromber is cracked like a
terrible egg. Yeah. Uh, that's the thing too. We can
have painty shoes, we can have perspective, for sure. This

(07:11):
weekend was disappointing. It was terrible, and we were hopeful
that the Astros would be able to at least we
win one freaking game, and they didn't.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
It was a disaster.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
But yes, if you zoom out the perspective on the season,
as everything has just been piling up, Fromber unraveled as
the season went along. Jason Alexander turned into a pumpkin
and Hunter Brown wasn't terrible. But your bats just weren't
good enough, and you go up and down this lineup
and you're just not good enough. A lot of these
names sound better on paper than they are in the lineup.

(07:43):
Talking about Christian Walker, talking about Yanner Diez, talking about
Josel Tuve, who had a decent weekend. Yeah, I mean
let off yesterday because, oh, by the way, the home
run hero of Saturday, or at least for a short time,
hurt his ribs and he wasn't available last yesterday, and
then Jeremy Peney was heard. I forgot to mention even that. Yeah,
it's just it's just it's not so I'm sad about

(08:06):
the Astros. I'm not shocked. Disappointed, yes, and I don't
know how, but if they have a winning week against
two beyond subpar baseball teams, they can make the playoffs.
Fangrafts Odds have them at sixty five point six percent.

(08:27):
They control their own destiny, go out there and win
these games and get it done.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
Well. I felt like you also said that we can
go and.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Well also a week agh guys said they're gonna do
it or not, because as we said, it's laid out
for them, they took care of business against the It
wouldn't have been the craziest thing in the world if
we just said they split the Rangers and the Mariners
six games three to three, right. Unfortunately it just went
and the most painful way for it to go.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
Is to win three and then lose three.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
So here is another reality of it. And again I'm
not a math major. I did firly go all up
until college algebra oh wow. But the reality is you
got Detroit playing Cleveland Mono Amano. That's going to if
you win this week.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
You've won this week, win your games.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Yeah, it's going to help you because you are with
those teams in a race for that final long card.
One's goetting Detroit, so they're going to win the Central.
By the way, they had a fourteen and a half
game lad at one point.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Is that correct? I think it's it's at least it
was at least twelve and a half.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
I'm think it was either twelve and a half or
fourteen a half one of the two, but it was ginormous.
And so if they beat each other up and you
go five and one, you're going to make the playoffs.
So as down trotten as I mean, think about this too, Ross.
You had thousands and thousands of people attend the game
last night. I had forty one thousand people and the

(09:52):
game was over in the bottom of the second cert
chugging that LTA bocane te to margarita. I mean, those
are those are pretty expensive too, right, I've never heard.
I'm not a drinker at ball games, so I'm usually working.
They are quite potent, and I think they cut you
off now, Oh they're good though, they're worth.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
I think they said they cut you off. Don't they
cut you off at two now or something like that.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
I don't know. They stamp your hand? How do they
even do that? I would think when you vomit when
you get to the counter, that's a it's a huge sign.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
That's when they cut you off.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
Meanwhile, what the f was that in Jacksonville yesterday? We
got layers on that bad boy too? Seven one three
two one two five seven out of you. I'm already
seen fired. Nick Kayley tweets people are being serious Bobby Slowik.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
If you're listening in the chances of Bobby Slowick listening
are zero percent, very low. No, no, it's a very low.
As point was a huge fan.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
No, I don't, man, I'd be smiling too, because you
got thrown under the bucks by a bunch of probably
people in the building and probably the YouTube hosts that
don't have careers. You got thrown under the bus in
on your fault. And I think, I mean, I'm not
trying to relive it things, relive things because I get

(11:10):
things wrong all the time. But I remember, I remember
saying Bobby slogan is a fall guy for this and
it wasn't his fault. This wasn't and we're proving it
out to be the case.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
And by the way, oh, by the way, whereas you
replaced Bobby Sloan who did not have a good year
last year. I mean, that's just honest replacements with the
guy I never called plays before. Hey went to John
Carroll University though, same as Nick Cassario. It was what
the Patriots one Nick Cassio was over there. Okay, so
they're bros. Apparently if you're not a bro of Cassia,

(11:41):
you can't get a job with the Texans. Does that
feel like it's fair to say Bobby Slowek came over
from the Niners, was probably Demiko's guy, and then this
hires probably Caserio's.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
Was it Demko's higher I don't know, I don't doesn't
feel like it. Whoever hired him.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
He ain't doing a good job, but he doesn't have
a lot to work. But just like in Slow's case,
in all his fault, there is not a a U
a spoke in the wheel of the offense that is
working well.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
It's it's all bad.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven eight flight from
Intercountmental to Georgetown. Guyana is a Yanna Yanna, Yanna Guiana
passenger vaping in laboratory turn around mid flight. You're not
You should not have to turn around for a vape, right, No,
come on, we're just looking at the news here real quick.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
That's terrible. Got the inmfasima.

Speaker 5 (12:31):
Yeah, but you vaping.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
Doesn't cause airlane airplane issues?

Speaker 6 (12:35):
Right?

Speaker 1 (12:36):
But can you just not? Can you hang on and
not vape for like? Guyana is probably a long flight.
That's well, that's all. I gotta be solid eight right,
I mean let them let the man vape. I mean
I don't think it's gonna call it. No, don't let
him vape, but just back off. How about a little
chouless or uh what do you put smokeless? Smokeless? Yeah,
put it between the cheek and gums. You've your girl.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five I have seven nine
zero award right now for uptown appliance repair.

Speaker 5 (13:06):
The things we can clean up right then we'll and
we played winning football. Then we'll have a chance to
turn it around. But again, man, we're close, that's what
it is. We're close. Close isn't good enough, So we
gotta pick it up and find a way to get
a win.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
Yeah, close isn't good enough. And Rossie, I think I
said it on was it either to tell the no
to tell the truth. I think I told you guys
on gut feelings. If the Colts win yesterday, and they did,
and the Texans lost yesterday and they did, I think
I I've already claimed the Indianapolis Culture your AFC South champions.

Speaker 5 (13:43):
No you have?

Speaker 1 (13:44):
Yeah, okay, you also put your name on the Astros
as AO West champions. Yes, I did so. So remember
jack assery can be found on the Internet, on social
media and can be found on this radio show. At
least I had bet it. I wanted you to be right.
The Indianapolis Cold are your AFC Sound Champions. I mean
that that's feeling quite likely now.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
The only reason why that may not happen or twofold
one the Texans could get their head out of their
ass because they have more talent than the Colts.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
Although I watched it, I don't know. I really you're right.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
I watched a lot of the Colts Titans game Yester
we by the way, for those who don't ross, I
went to Like Charles with some friends and had time.
Well it wasn't and we got to talk about a
bad beat. We won't mention what happened the bad beat
as it is, although the person wouldn't care.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
I don't think person, I don't think so. It was.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
For those of you that don't even bet on sports,
and that's still the majority of our audience. If you
want to just get into a sports book and eat
and drink and watch nine games simultaneously, it's heaven on earth.

Speaker 1 (14:55):
There is nothing better. And I put this on Twitter yesterday,
there is nothing better than being in at a sports
book or being on Gonna be a big sports bar.
You could do that too.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
I've been gambling to have nine games going on simultaneously.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
It's beautiful.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
That's why you gotta go to Big City Wings because
they do have the big screen, they have the Sunday ticket.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
I mean, you gotta go there, you gotta go to
you gotta go eat.

Speaker 2 (15:16):
But there's just something special about having a financial impact
on it. By you know, I was just nickel and diamondbats.
I didn't care particularly one way or the other. I
did have the Texans and the Jaguars in the under
so I felt good about that. But yeah, it's just
there's something special about being in a casino sports book
with some action on these games and loving most of

(15:38):
what you saw and being aggravated about a lot of
things you saw. But the fact is I watched a
lot of that Indianapolis Tennessee game. Colts are significantly better
than Texans. Now the Colts also play the Titans. Were
terrible football team, and the Texans should be getting fat
and happy off them. Colts also beat the Dolphins, and
then they should have lost to the Bronxe's.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
I'm saying the schedule has been very, very soft.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
But guess what, Just like we were talking about, the
Astros need to beat up on the A's and Angels
who they've had opportunities against. Right, you get the Titans
this week, right, and you need to capitalize. Yeah, one
more thing, we're going to the phone. I just saw
the total of the text the guest total of the
Textans Titans. I might throw up thirty half thirty nine
and a half is nailed on the head. I really

(16:23):
didn't see it. By the way, a six and a half.
I believe you, that is a terrible It opened sevens
has already dropped a half point a six and a half. Okay,
thirty nine and a half, that's good. Thirty nine and
a half. That's claw your eyes out, football, folks. I
got more news for you. That's the lowest total on
the board. There's gonna be some empty seats at the
Energy on Sunday, so so get ready all your all

(16:46):
the little media that get credentials that shouldn't have credential.
They're gonna shooting photos of an empty stadium. Oh you
know what I might be going to that game is
a fan you can get you shock at you?

Speaker 5 (16:55):
A jersey?

Speaker 1 (16:56):
I have one?

Speaker 2 (16:57):
What is it up, CJ. It's Dominic Davis. Howbout we
move into the last decade? Why I gotta show people
I'm true blue?

Speaker 1 (17:05):
Baby? What's up?

Speaker 2 (17:06):
O G I'll be the only one in the building
with it. It's actually I think a Dominic Williams jersey.
Oh okay, Dominic Davis. You may not be by yourself.
Dominic Williams, you'd be by yourself. He changed his name. Yeah,
it's a deep cut one. More fans that up on eBay.
I saw it for like fifteen bucks, so we got
more to get to on this. Trevor Lawrence absolutely sucks.
He really. Now granted his receivers didn't do any favors yesterday,

(17:28):
but that interception that he threw was one of the
worst throws I've ever seen him, and he constantly overthrows
as receivers.

Speaker 1 (17:35):
Now, again, there were there were more drops than normally
would have been for that. There were a couple drops.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Yeah, but he sucks, and you couldn't beat a quarterback
who sucks. Trevor Lawrence is not like underperforming or underwhelming
or mid He sucks.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
They tried to hand you that game multiple times.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
Now, you also got Nico Collins fumbling in a crucial moment.
Just like the week before, you get dari ob or
was it two weeks ago, right, whatever it was Dario
gunbowally with a I mean you've you've been a little
bit of snake bit. But again, it feels how many,
how many times you have to talk about this Every
football game NFL generally comes down to a couple of plays.

Speaker 5 (18:15):
It just does.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
And the Texans aren't making those plays and they're owing three,
so you can be close you want to. Yeah, the
scoreboard says you're owing three. So anytime a coach tells
me how close you are, I don't care because they're
actually everything's close, because they're right when they say that,
they're right. And then you flip on the tape and
you're like, Wow, if this guy makes this assignment, if
this guy, if this guy makes this one block, this

(18:36):
is a touchdown. Whatever, whatever, But that's the NFL. This
is the highest These are the best athletes on the planet,
the best football players in the planet, best coaches on
the planet, the best of everything.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
So the margins are going to be thin, and that's
just the nature of the.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
Beast because you're chances are, unless you're playing Minnesota and
you're Cincinnati, you're gonna be close sixteen or seventeen weeks
a year. Life is hard in the big city and
you're making millions and millions of dollars. You're gonna be
held to a state. Yeah, you just are. I swear
to God, we're not gonna say we're coming back. Heidi,
Ryan renfro Okay one, two three. Right after this at
ten twenty eight on Sports Talk seven ninety, all right, well,

(19:10):
I have to ask you if well, the as shows
are down, the Texans are down. How are you feeling
though in your personal life? And this is a serious conversation.
Ten thirty six. It is Matt and Ross. We believe
this is your day to just yell at us, not
for us in particular, just yell because your sports teams
are massively underperforming or the run is inevitably going to end. Well,

(19:35):
then this week on the Local nine we'll discuss Texans
better get their act together? Are they're gonna be the
biggest embarrassment in the NFL? I mean, the Saints were
awful yesterday, so maybe that's number one.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
Dolphins.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
Yeah, I'm just thinking of the whole rotten five ooh,
tightens are in there. You can't be worse than the
Titans when you're favored by six and a half over them,
just saying that's true. Well, the Texans make the rotten
fible find out on Thursday.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
Let me count to you ow and three teams in football.
Heidi conro on the Matt Thomas Joel Ross, Heidi, thank
you for holding in. Good morning, Good morning.

Speaker 7 (20:16):
First, Swiss cheese is best on cowboys from Darryl's.

Speaker 1 (20:20):
Oh we've heard Daryl's over the weekend. Yeah, I know.

Speaker 7 (20:25):
I saw Ross's instagram. Some people actually look at it.

Speaker 1 (20:29):
Whoo, Heidi. My instagram is at sports empt. Holl at
your boy at sports RV for great content. Thank you,
sports Empt, Heidy for life.

Speaker 7 (20:39):
You're welcome. So I had a sort of bad weekend.
I'm a Saints fan, I like the Texans, and I'm
a big Astros fan. Okay, so things aren't going well
in that department, and I have a kind of a
unpopular opinion probably, but to me is just I just

(21:01):
want the Astros to not make the playoffs so they
can focus on getting healthy for next year. What because
I don't have a that's I told it was an unpopular.

Speaker 1 (21:14):
Unpopular it's it's a I mean, Heidi, I love you,
but it's an as nine take whoa.

Speaker 8 (21:21):
That?

Speaker 2 (21:22):
By the way, follow sports empty, unfollows sports empty, Heidi, Heidi,
listen to me. Why would you ever why they're gonna
get healthy?

Speaker 1 (21:31):
Even if they go win the World Series, They'll only
be in the playoffs for about two games. I'm telling you.

Speaker 7 (21:35):
Yeah, I mean that's what I'm with Ross. Why make
the playoffs? Why like?

Speaker 2 (21:43):
I like playoff? I like playoff, win the game, yet
you don't play.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
The rest up.

Speaker 7 (21:52):
Yeah, well I said part of me, not all of me.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
Yeah, it feels like it. You called the show to
say it, so.

Speaker 9 (22:00):
It's in you.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
It's in your pores way more than you want to admit, right,
come on now, Yeah, probably sorry about your Saints. By way,
that was a largely uncompetitive game. At least you could
have turned it off out of the first quarter.

Speaker 7 (22:12):
Well, I pretty much expected it. We don't really. They
don't have much of a quarterback.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
No, or offense or defense, special teams is mid, coaching
is new.

Speaker 1 (22:22):
It's not great, Heidi.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
Thank you very much for calling it's even though your
take was asked, and I we do love you.

Speaker 6 (22:30):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
Unfollow sports empty, heidis Heidi? The real truth comes at
sports empty.

Speaker 1 (22:37):
And you know it. M Yeah, you want to make
the playoffs?

Speaker 2 (22:42):
Am I confident they would even make it out of
a wild card no, or a DS no, or out
of the CS No.

Speaker 1 (22:48):
But you don't know unless you try.

Speaker 2 (22:50):
Yeah, I mean I didn't watch thirty spring training games,
one hundred and sixty games and go, well, you know
it'd be better if they got some extra time off.

Speaker 1 (22:56):
No, who do you who?

Speaker 2 (22:58):
Believes that nobody thought the Diamondbacks are going to make
the World Series a couple of years ago. They've slipped
in as a wild card. You can catch lighting in
a bottle. This team has done it before. The longer
you go in the playoff, healthier you could get with guys.

Speaker 1 (23:09):
Like Josh Haters or others coming back. I'm not even
I'm not going that far.

Speaker 2 (23:14):
Miracle, Maddy, miracles can happen two World Series odds, says Fangrass.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
I'm just saying two. So you're telling me there's a chance.

Speaker 2 (23:23):
If they want to win five of the next six
games and make the playoffs, I will root for them.
Hard to do so continue to do so. Yeah, I'm
not saying that's likely. But you go from no chance
to very little, and that's something I guess. Yeah, let's
go to Renfro on seventy high.

Speaker 10 (23:38):
Renfro, Hey, I was going, good man, you was right
when you see it this morning that how could the
Texas go from an officer coordinated that at least got
you in the playoffs twice? Only thing I'll Bobby need to,
you know, sharpen the step home with how to make

(24:00):
adjustments in.

Speaker 11 (24:01):
The second half, you know.

Speaker 10 (24:02):
But to go from that to how another office of
coordinator and uh, that's you know, going through his first
go around. That's almost a set of fa failure for
either either the head coach or the GM because that
didn't make any sense at all. I mean, you had
quite a few good officer coordinators out there. I mean,

(24:24):
I ain't thought about the enemy. You know, he would
have loved or had an opportunity if acts, you know,
But I just I feel we definitely got worse, and
you can help me with this.

Speaker 12 (24:36):
Head.

Speaker 10 (24:36):
I'm gonna let you go the officer quarter, I mean
the office of line line coach or whatever did they
get rid of him to have gotten offne.

Speaker 2 (24:46):
Coach offensive line coach and they promoted the assistant offensive
line coach to become full time assistant line coach.

Speaker 10 (24:54):
Okay, now now we see why we're in the position
we are.

Speaker 11 (24:57):
I reckon, guys, that's hey, yeah, I have a great.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
Thank you, Ren for I appreciate it. I mean, to me,
this is on Casario. Honestly, this is you know what
I shouldn't say this. This is seventy percent on Cassario,
twenty five percent on.

Speaker 1 (25:15):
No. I'm let me break out one more time. This
is sixty percent Casario, twenty percent on uh Demiko, and
twenty percent on play calling. And c J. Stroud is
just not even a top half quarterback right now. He's not.
He's is not by any measure. By any measure, there's nothing.

Speaker 2 (25:37):
There's nothing that I see from him that makes me
think of the quarterback of two years ago. This is
the highest concern level I think I've had for him.
You know, the regression last year, we could kind of
write it off, but it continues to happen week after week.
Jacksonville defense has improved, but it's not like their world beaters.
The pockets haven't been clean. They've been a little bit
cleaner the last couple of weeks. I mean, you did
have some issues today, I mean yesterday with Arianti er

(26:00):
Seri had a bad does not want to look at
his tape under any circumstance. He also went here, in
your third week in the league, and you go up
against Josh heinz Allen, you're gonna lose. Yeah, Well, I
guess you know, as you would say, guess what you
get paid for?

Speaker 1 (26:12):
This exactly? This is what you He's got. He's gonna
take lumps.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
He is, and especially with left tackles, a lot of
Now there are some who are. I mean there's arm
On Membu, there's Kelvin Banks. There are some tackles who are.
But those are first round guys. And oh, by the way,
another thing rossy on this on that is offensive line
had penalties? Why why is Demiko not running a discipline
football team? A lot of this is correctable. Yes, what

(26:35):
you're saying, you're having these penalties. You had that leverage putting.
That didn't cost you. They kicked the field goal in
that in that drive anyways, but that could have cost you,
like it could have been worse. It could have been worse.
You've got the busted coverage on Nico Collins. That was
a gift. They were trying to hand you the game.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
And Trevor Lawrence sucks.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
He just he's If I'm Jacksonville fan today, I'd be like,
how the hell do we win that game? And we
got to get out this contract fifty five million dollars
a year for that hot garbage in.

Speaker 1 (27:05):
This hot guard. I mean, if Trevor walked in and said, man, Trevor,
I appreciate your long walking flows, but you suck, and
you've sucked for many, many years. He's got two playoff games.

Speaker 2 (27:14):
He's not he's not an elite quarterback and he's not
developing in the one Ryan on seven on eight, Ryan,
I'm sorry for your loss, and I mean that in
more ways than one.

Speaker 1 (27:21):
My friend.

Speaker 11 (27:24):
I started, I started chasing Sunday.

Speaker 1 (27:26):
That was bad.

Speaker 11 (27:27):
It was just all bad at No. No, I was
on a rise of ricks.

Speaker 13 (27:35):
Wait, so you all go to the Golden Nugget. Did
you go to the sportsbook that is in the Golden Nugget?

Speaker 1 (27:42):
Sure? Yes we did. Yes, we did Draft Kings. We
went to raft ricks. No, I'm gonna say draft Kings,
what's up? We ain't paying me, So I gonna say
rapht ricks? Who draft Kings?

Speaker 11 (27:53):
Maybe that place is?

Speaker 13 (27:54):
That place is awesome? Never want to bet there. And
then so Sunday I wake up. I had a few
cold pops to start the day. Yes, and just started.
I got on, I got on prize picks. It just
couldn't nothing. I did it again on sun or Sunday night.
I gave the phone to my seventeen month old son.
I was like, pick them, I don't care. He lost,
he lost, we all lost. It's a bad weekend, Matt,

(28:15):
bad weekend. It's okay, we're gonna get through it. But hey,
oga won some black guys, Gobe, you had a good weekend.

Speaker 5 (28:20):
We did.

Speaker 11 (28:21):
I want to add to what Heidi said. I don't
think the Astros shouldn't make the playoffs. They don't deserve
to go to the playoffs.

Speaker 14 (28:29):
There's a difference. They they've done nothing that tells me
they even care about playing October baseball. And they can
go kick rocks, rebuild Jim Craney, suspend some money, do something. Man,
you want to talk about the window closing, it's it's
about the slam shut if they don't do something. And
I'm gonna I'm gonna get off the phone and go
into work and I'll talk to you guys later.

Speaker 2 (28:49):
All right, we'll discuss that coming back ten five on
Sports Talk seven ninety seven one seven ninety If you
want to chime in on the conversation, we're here for you.
Demiko is supposed to speak in a hand half an
hour and we're gonna try to carry live that. If
we can't, we're gonna carry We'll do we'll record it
and we'll play backfree. Because I want to I want
to hear how cranky the coach is, because there're gonna

(29:11):
be some legit media there and they're not gonna be
most of them are gonna be not non legit, but
there's gonna be some legit media there and they're gonna
hopefully call out what has turned out to be a
ridiculously disappointing start of the season, and hopefully I don't
want to hear about how close are anymore because the
team's not close. So the reality is that I am

(29:32):
down money on the trip because I did put one
hundred dollars like I promised, y'all, I should have put
one hundred and ten dollars on the Astros to beat
the Mariners on Saturday. Yeah good, I'm really happy I
followed just for for a uh for solid holiday.

Speaker 5 (29:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
It was team it was team Matt Thomas already and camaraderie.

Speaker 2 (29:49):
So I am. I'm really glad I tailed on that.
But I tailed you on on the long horns, Yeah
I did. I had, uh, I had, and I I
actually had. I got plus two forty on Arch Manning
flexing on a Sam Houston player on the ground.

Speaker 1 (30:06):
That's good.

Speaker 15 (30:07):
What's the hit that's a game everybody was dropping. I
got my swagger back, Arch.

Speaker 5 (30:12):
Mann, whoa.

Speaker 1 (30:14):
Sucking Sam Houston.

Speaker 2 (30:15):
That game was so bad that it was on the
big one of the screens at the casino. But they
don't have commercials in between, so it's like, we'll be
right back. It was one of those ESPN Plus or
SEC plus game.

Speaker 15 (30:26):
They they have a bye this week, Florida has a
buy and then Texas goes to the swamp. I will
tell you, as bad as Florida's been at one in three,
their defense is still pretty good under That will be
interesting to see because this will be Arch's first true
road SEC test, right he has not started on the.

Speaker 2 (30:43):
Road Okay, Oh yeah, well on the road in the
Shoe in Ohio state. I guess it's going to be
nothing compared to that. He did poorly. Okay, so why
did I say he's gonna do great? But you're like
trying to make this SEC distinction like big.

Speaker 1 (30:56):
Boy football on the road the Shoe is big boys.

Speaker 15 (31:00):
I didn't say that, wasn't I'm just saying this is
his first road SEC game.

Speaker 5 (31:04):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (31:06):
Yeah, it's a little different than Newman hes gonna be.
I don't think he's gonna be good Newman High School
playing the charter school down the street. Again, this is
not his first rodeo. He just had been good in
the rodeo.

Speaker 2 (31:15):
So basically, you're saying nobody should take white people that
play at private schools.

Speaker 15 (31:20):
No, I'm just saying people would like a lot of
people going back and looked at his high school film
and going, what are we sure we didn't just hype
because last name is Manning, And then most people go, yeah,
I think it probably is because of his last name.

Speaker 2 (31:32):
And he was making a lot of the good throws,
and I like the highlights were very good and high
look and I'm not a I don't work for a
recruiting service, but again, I would keep going back. Five
stars are no guarantees. I'm still an arch truther. I
think he's gonna be great. You think he's gonna be
great next year. This year he's gonna go through I
think a lot of the well, is this his third
year in the program?

Speaker 1 (31:51):
Why Sark? Did you hear his post game?

Speaker 15 (31:54):
He goes, yeah, man, they were telling me I didn't
know how to coach him up, and I was just
about to hand the reins off to somebody else.

Speaker 1 (32:00):
Luckily I didn't. Why are you always like that?

Speaker 5 (32:02):
One?

Speaker 2 (32:03):
College coaches are aholes, high level college coaches being smug.

Speaker 1 (32:06):
I mean, you're you telling me you've never heard that before.

Speaker 15 (32:08):
Just like, yeah, we're pretty proud of him. He's coming along.
That's that's what you're saying.

Speaker 1 (32:12):
Guy mug, Brian Kelly as smug as hell. Let's walk
in their shoes for a second. Hold on second, Dabo's smug.
When you run a high.

Speaker 2 (32:18):
End football program, everybody bows to you, correct, except the
university present Athletic directors are scared of coaches, generally speaking.

Speaker 1 (32:26):
So when negativity hits, it's hard for you to You're like.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
Correct, there's I mean, imagine Michael Berry walked in here
and somebody criticized it.

Speaker 1 (32:32):
That's not gonna happen. When Michael Berry goes outside. Michael Berry,
I mean, he make it defensive.

Speaker 2 (32:37):
Well, he wouldn't walk in here. But you know what
I'm saying. When you are compound, go talk to Matt
for him. Yeah, he's gonna send a proxy number one
U number two.

Speaker 5 (32:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (32:46):
Well, Also, you have to remember the coaches who make
these types of move to you. If you think of
how many thousands of high school college coaches there are.
To make it to these heights, you've got to be
pretty cutthroat, correct, you have to be very competitive, you
have to have an ego. And so those are the
guys who rise to the top in many of these professions.
And then we can go up and down the list,
especially at the college ranks, the guys who had he goes.
So I'm just saying it's human nature for these press

(33:10):
conferences to be so combative when they don't face that resistance,
it's the other six days of the week they just don't.

Speaker 5 (33:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (33:16):
Well, I would also say it Gordy is correct and
that like showing a little humility would be nice, especially
when you just beat Sam Houston.

Speaker 1 (33:23):
Yeah, but everybody was liked by swagger. I would like
to see a slumpbuster. You see that.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
I did see that with the AI picture. I got
that sent to me by multiple people.

Speaker 1 (33:34):
Terrible. I think I got it too. I gotta check.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
Interest for the Sam Houston slumpbuster. And it's a door
big girl standing in.

Speaker 15 (33:45):
From a college football standpoint, though, Texas will get there
on the road at at Florida. Florida's next two games
are home against Texas and at A and M. A
lot of people have talked to you said they believe
after that A and M game, they're gonna tell Billion
Apier don't know on the plane.

Speaker 2 (33:59):
Look, I didn't know much of Billion Apier except that
he wanted Louisiana Lafia.

Speaker 1 (34:02):
I mean, good for him, good coach, just not cut
out for this. But my god, I mean, what a
massive rise from a mid sun belt to the SEC.

Speaker 15 (34:10):
But I only bring that up because this is gonna
be the this is gonna be the next or the
really the first big level job that will be open
this coming off season.

Speaker 1 (34:18):
What names could make that leap?

Speaker 5 (34:20):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 2 (34:21):
If I'm Florida, look, I still think it's an operational
on SEC job. But why don't I go get the
hottest coordinator at another power for school as compared to
going getting to somebody that you.

Speaker 1 (34:32):
Know when you went eight. When you go eight and
four in Louisiana and in Lafia, Louisiana, you're considered a king.

Speaker 15 (34:37):
Like Grian Silverfield at Memphis is four to oh. Alex
Golish at USF is doing well. But it's like those
are such gambles. You don't know if that guy's gonna okay,
it's working at the American Well, work at this lovet Memphis.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
They have a good year. They beat Arkansas with the weekend.
I'll though Arkansas gave that one away. All right, So
you did the tenth inning show yesterday. I'm surprised to
anybody that called because the game was over at the
bottom of the second. Sorry about that. So anything else
I think, I think I think people didn't have enough
Crawford back. I think that was the problem.

Speaker 7 (35:04):
But uh.

Speaker 1 (35:06):
It do you want me to do that or do
you have to give.

Speaker 5 (35:08):
It a spot?

Speaker 1 (35:09):
I want you to do whatever you take your show?
Six games left. How we feeling?

Speaker 12 (35:13):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (35:13):
I got okay, Astros Oh, I'll save it for to
tell the truth at eleven fifty. Coming up today it
is eleven o two.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
We normally do to tell the truth at eleven thirty.
We may push that back a little bit, depending on
exactly what demico. And again, we're gonna try to get
the press conference for you live. If we don't get
it live, we're gonna play it for you, hopefully in
its entirety. Uh, coming up at some point this hour,
because again I'm not a big sound bite guy. I

(35:42):
like to hear the demeanor in the in a little
bit longer questions as long as they are legit questions.
But my guess is there won't be. But point being
is that I want to be able to hear and see.
You know, my guess is Dimiko will keep a stiff
up or loop. He's gonna have to. It's this is
not a death nail. He's not gonna break down in tears.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
They're like, don't cry out loud, just keep it aside.

Speaker 2 (36:04):
Uh, but a three hundred death now, but the numbers history,
there is history to this. The Texans did the last
time they went on three did make the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (36:16):
But it ain't easy.

Speaker 2 (36:18):
The only benefit you whole, the only benefit you have
is you thought you were in the worst division in
football and now that the AFC South is no longer
in play.

Speaker 1 (36:29):
Because I I.

Speaker 2 (36:30):
Said what I said last week, I gotta stick I
gotta stick to it, right the cults of the AFC South.

Speaker 1 (36:34):
Champions, you're saying you put your name on that you
don't have to. Don't let me go. Do you do
a lot of that? I would never.

Speaker 12 (36:49):
You just do.

Speaker 2 (36:50):
But that's fine, oh man, Yeah, just a real real
lousy local sports Weekend. I'm not a good Now you
and I argue about length of contracts, we never talked
dollars and cents so much like you would.

Speaker 1 (37:07):
You don't have about Kyle Tucker. He still hurt. Well,
he won't be hurting after he gets this twelve year
deal that you're talking about. I didn't say twelve years.

Speaker 2 (37:20):
Jeffs did well and he should lose his credibility his
credentials too, And you're saying he's a twelve year guy.
But my point is this, how much has Promber lost
in the last two months legitimately? Legitimately I would say
like one hundred million dollars he was probably gonna make

(37:42):
now he's thirty two. He was hoping for a Max
Freed deal. What was Max Freed? That was like, uh,
eight years too, tennish something like that to twenty five.
Let me go look to eighteen eight years to eighteen
from Ax Freed. That's what he was gonna hope for

(38:02):
and he was probably gonna fall a little short of that.

Speaker 1 (38:04):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (38:06):
Now he I mean, is he gonna take a one
year opt out deal at thirty two? Do you know
that I was on the Seattle radio station. They asked
about the throat of Sesar salas Are. I was at
the sportsbook playing blackjack and they were talking about Frombert
and the very first thing that came out of the
guy's mouth was, man, Farmer is a chump for doing
what he did. No one believes that was on accident.

(38:30):
His agent does, Well, maybe he doesn't either. Actually his
agent had to say that to protect his client. But
do you know that in itself probably cost him. That
one pitch cost him money. That like national news, Yeah, yeah,
like you said, the buzz on that was huge. It
was on every everybody who makes baseball content, like that

(38:53):
guy who uh that retired Juco guy who just hits
home runs like video. Yeah, I like this guy's even
talking about it. I was like, man, everybody. Of course,
Jamboy was all over it because it's the Astros especially,
and so all the like every baseball content creator on
the planet. It was like, dude, you'd never even heard of.
Some guy who was a reliever in the nineties who

(39:13):
does a podcast was on it. Even Ben Verlander, who
isn't busy enough you know, you know, doing his stuffed brother, Yeah,
even commented on it. Even Doug Verlander was all over
his podcast Ratioverlander was like, this is a crump move exactly.

Speaker 1 (39:26):
It was not good.

Speaker 2 (39:27):
So I don't I could not even guess if we
if we had a contest, it would be for a
Fromber deal frommer coined. I would have a no, I
would have a I would stay far away from it.
I don't know how many years is going to get
You mentioned thirty two years of age. He has been healthy,
which is a large part of it. But don't you
always believe at some point that pictures are going to

(39:49):
get hurt somehow, some way.

Speaker 1 (39:50):
I mean, this was his one year. Prove it year?

Speaker 2 (39:52):
Oh you proved, That's what I'm saying. Does he try
to do another another one? Because the Astros are going
to make him a qualifying offer because they want to
get draft picks. It's gonna be about twenty million ish.
You know, when you're twenty million in what Fromer could
do take? It doesn't happen very often. I went from
no chance. It still feels like a low chance. It's low,

(40:15):
but I don't think it's zero. He would want like
one year, thirty or twenty five or something like that. Well,
they just not dictated by it, or you know what
I'm saying, Like three years ninety with opt out?

Speaker 1 (40:28):
Wouldn't that be the most unbelievable thing?

Speaker 2 (40:31):
If Fromber said, you know what, I'm testing these free
Injurent waters and they ain't good, I'll come back one
more year. I'll take the dollar amount and prove myself
that I'm good, then move along.

Speaker 1 (40:43):
Meanwhile, it's funny. I don't even think you can find
the name Valdez in the stadium anymore. They've already cleansed
that bad boy out after what happened over the weekends.
Would you just do.

Speaker 2 (40:50):
Three seventy five with opt outs after every year frommer
Houston Astros?

Speaker 1 (40:54):
Would you do that? No?

Speaker 2 (40:58):
Honestly, Rossie, there isn't a single deal that I would
keep him for. I mean relatively speaking, Like if you said,
I'll come back for two hundred and forty thousand dollars, Okay,
I'll get that, but I'm.

Speaker 1 (41:08):
Talking fair market qualifying offer when you're twenty. I don't
look at what that What the qualifying offer wasn't uh
in twenty twenty four, but it's coming in that range
twenty one. Oh, he could do that if you're goes.

Speaker 2 (41:27):
Let me tell you some If your Fromber and the
Astros offer you a qualifying offer which gives them draft
compensation if you go elsewhere, and it's twenty four million dollars,
I take it. I I if I'm him, I need
a year to rebuild my image because first of all,
my second half is sucked. Next I'm considered a terrible teammate. Uh, honestly,

(41:47):
I would. I wouldn't mind Fromber on a short term deal.

Speaker 1 (41:52):
I don't know. The juju is so bad, Rossie, I
understand the juju's bad. It's bad. It's bad. Oh wait,
did you see j Starward a Yankees cap yesterday? Are
you joking? No, I'm telling you the.

Speaker 2 (42:06):
Guy wears every cap but the Astros. Okay again, I
don't care. I just think it's funny. It's funny that
he would do that. I thought you were I seriously
thought you were kidding.

Speaker 1 (42:17):
No, he is.

Speaker 2 (42:17):
At least he wasn't wearing the Mariners gain. Do we
need to get him a cap guy? Do we need
to get him an American League West Championship shirt? You know,
baseball cap guy? They just wear every kind of cap.

Speaker 1 (42:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (42:29):
Trey Campbell was like that. Yeah, all right, So back
to it. Uh So, I'll put this if you were to,
if you were if there was a percentile of him
accepting it, I'd say it's ten percent accepted.

Speaker 1 (42:41):
But it's not zero. And what if he's got one
more start for this team, give us up five runs
in three innings or whatever he did over the weekend
when he couldn't get deep in the game.

Speaker 2 (42:54):
Why would anyone want to commit any sort of long
term deal to him. I don't think they would, or
the money per year may be bad. I think yeah,
the age factor, now, that's that's what you have to wonder.
Is he just over the hill. It's been a great overall,
it's been a great run with Fromer. I know he's
caused a lot of headaches and all that type of stuff,
but he was top ten in the cy Young for

(43:18):
three straight winners. This year, the wheels fell off and
he's thirty two. Bet ROSSI had been saying it for
two and you've been saying it for two for two months,
it's just it's it's tiresome, I understand, because he will
go like it was not this priss start the previous one,
fourth inning, four innings. I mean, he has thrown that
curve ball at twelve to six, inducing ground balls, keeping
guys swinging and missing, and then he has that one

(43:40):
implosion inning and the Astros can't dig. Now, granted, the
Astros offense doesn't help him out much. They he can't
fall behind three nothing. It feels like it's a death nail.
It feels like I'm watching a soccer game. He didn't
implode on Saturday. He just wasn't good. Yeah, there was
no implosion. It was just eram nine for the game,
one runon pining.

Speaker 1 (44:00):
He knows that up and wasn't good. That good?

Speaker 2 (44:03):
All right, Dimiko is going to speak. We'll try to
catch some of that next here. Uh seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seven nine zero. Jamiko's going to speak
here very shortly, and we hope to carry some or

(44:23):
all of it coming up here. To let you guys
hear it right from the coach of a massively underperforming team.

Speaker 1 (44:30):
I could not get past multiple occasions telling you, because
you are right next to me, how bad Trevor Lawrence is,
how bad the jag Now the Jaguars have a respectable defense.
Travis atn didn't do much running only fifty six yards.
Yesterday you bottled up who had been he'd been the
best running back in football in terms of yards in
the yards, but Trevor Lawrence is and I he was

(44:55):
a one dash one and he was the next thing.
He was the next Montana, he was the next name
whatever you want to go to, HM, he's Mark Brunell
is the greatest Jaguars quarterback of all time.

Speaker 2 (45:11):
Over this guy, he's I mean, he's no disrespect Bryan
Byron leftwigh like that. And they absolutely spent crazy, crazy
money on him to keep him there. They you know,
they what do you call when you're uh, when you're
pot committed, you already spent a lot of money on
the on the original hand, and you're like, well I
gotta go on because I've I already spent this much.

Speaker 1 (45:31):
Uh Yeah, pot committed works.

Speaker 2 (45:33):
Yeah, But you know, there's also there's a antithesis to that,
would be the sunk cost fallacy, where you stick with
something even though it's it's it's a sunk cost because
of what you put into it when you should decide
to get rid of it and cut bait, but you
don't because of what you invested. Now, I'm not trying
to put these in the same context here, but if

(45:57):
CJ plays like this for the next fourteen thirteen, there's
gonna be some hard conversations in that Texans over energy
because he's ready not he may not be physically ready
and performance. Who I was ready, but on his time card,
it says time to get me in that fifteen million

(46:17):
dollar club. I don't know that he would. I think
maybe you could give him. I don't think he's going anywhere.
I think he's gonna get better. I was it the
last week. I said the gut had the gut feeling
that he's going to prove that he's the franchise quarterback
or no? I said that on Uh I did I
see that on to tell the truth? So I think
that's all the truth. Yeah, it was one of your opinions.

Speaker 1 (46:39):
Okay, I wouldn't make that opinion this week.

Speaker 2 (46:41):
But uh, I think you might sign him too, like
a Daniel Jones type of deal with the Giants to
where it's big money but you can get out of
it any year.

Speaker 1 (46:49):
Who's his agent?

Speaker 16 (46:51):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (46:51):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (46:52):
Is it David Muligta? You got it? Okay, So go
ahead and what you were saying, go ahead, Well he
can play, so what he hadn't been good enough?

Speaker 2 (47:05):
Michael Parsons, Okay, who I think? I think Casario? Michael
Parsons has leverage.

Speaker 11 (47:08):
C J.

Speaker 1 (47:09):
Stroud does not have leverage, Sarah. Cassario takes care of
his stars. Yeah he does, but he's not a star
right now. Well but maybe, hey, maybe they're saying it's
not you, it's it's the people running will get you back.
I can pull up ten different things that will tell
you with just like metrics that like told you. I
follow a lot of fantasy people. Yeah, and every time
I see quarterback Meckers, I go find where c J.
Stroud is, and he's bottom third everywhere everywhere on everything,

(47:31):
off target rate and all that type of stuff, like
it's passes, any kind of passer ratings, pro football focused ratings,
anything you want to look at.

Speaker 6 (47:38):
C J.

Speaker 2 (47:39):
Stroud has been poor and bottom bottom third of the
NFL this year.

Speaker 1 (47:45):
I'm not arguing with you.

Speaker 2 (47:46):
I'm just saying that the calendar is not in the
texans favor here unless they want to play hard ball,
and I don't think they. First of all, Cow doesn't
even realize they lost the game yesterday. He was worried
about what was on the flight food wise, Hannah's pissed. Uh,
Nick's probably not pleased.

Speaker 1 (48:03):
Okay, but that's but that's but that's the trend in
the NFL now is even the Mids are getting these
super relatious deals.

Speaker 2 (48:10):
Yeah, that's what I say. Like, it's like a Daniel
Jones deal basically. And how that work out, by the way,
for the Giants not great, it's working out for the
colt Yeah. But if you were to say, at it's core,
whose long term future do you believe in more Daniel
Jones and c J Stroud, you'd probably you would. Nobody
would argue and say c J. Stra wouldn't be the
answer to that question, are they?

Speaker 1 (48:30):
What do you? Oh, you're biting your lip for something.
Oh who's been better this year? Daniel Jones?

Speaker 2 (48:38):
Okay, I'm just saying that's that's a fact, right, that's
not controversial.

Speaker 1 (48:42):
But could one could one good week from CJ fix that? Absolutely?
When's it coming? Now?

Speaker 2 (48:48):
Daniel Jones is in a better, much better situation. They
have a great offensive line, they got Jonathan Taylor mm hmm.
Pass catchers are pretty good. Yeah, who number eleven for them.
Michael Pittman, Yeah, he Pierce Goodman's good, not great because
they have the new the new tight end Warren He's good.

Speaker 1 (49:04):
They got better.

Speaker 2 (49:05):
They've got better pass they've got a better run game.
They've got better offensive line and better pass catchers. So
Daniel Jones obviously in a much better situation. What if
I told you that when Joe Mixon comes back, all
is fixed, I will feel a lot better.

Speaker 1 (49:21):
I will feel I will feel you fit? Do you
really no? Feeling better? For sure?

Speaker 2 (49:25):
I will feel five times better about this. He is
the backbone of this offense, Joe mix and he is
and and it shouldn't be I shouldn't be saying that
out loud because Nick Cassaro should have had, you know,
a better players around them on the offense. But he
matters a lot to me, and I said that last year.
The reality is, I don't think of the three teams
that Texans have played so far that any of those

(49:46):
three teams respect the Texans running game at all. Nick
Chubb gets some yards. Every team gets yards. I mean,
it's just a guy. You just don't nobody go rushes
for fourteen yards a game. People are gonna get their yards.
Nick Chubb has been just a guy. We're seeing a
little bit more and more of what he marks. He's
a rookie. They're working them in. Let's go to press
conference right now.

Speaker 1 (50:07):
Something you guys will continue to do.

Speaker 17 (50:08):
And why was that something you felt like?

Speaker 5 (50:11):
Yeah, we did. We rotated the guards in the game
on Sunday because we felt like that's what we wanted
to do to give Juice a chance to get in there.
And Juice did a really nice job some of the
reps that he was given.

Speaker 16 (50:23):
Piko, when you say you're close, are you close to
turning those close games into wins?

Speaker 5 (50:30):
Are you close to where you want? What I mean
by close? As we were close in our three games, right,
We were there in the fourth quarter, right, we were
close to finishing and closing those games out. But there
are plays in each game that we've had these first
three games that we didn't finish and win the game.
So I'm not talking about close as a team talking
about winning the football game. That's what we're here to do.

(50:51):
We're here to win football games. We've been in a
in position to win those games and we have not
won the game. So we got to find a way
to win the game.

Speaker 18 (51:01):
Right.

Speaker 5 (51:01):
We got to make the plays in the fourth quarter
of the games we've been and we got to make
those plays to put us in position and to just
ultimately to win the football game. That's what we're here
to do, right, That's that's what we work tirelessly and
hard for, is to win football games. So the games
have been close, We've been right there in the games, right,

(51:21):
so we just gotta find a way to get it done.

Speaker 1 (51:23):
It's talked about.

Speaker 19 (51:24):
We talked about most games and I think we even
talked about it with you last week. Most games in
the NFL are close and it comes down to a
couple of plays. So is being close encouraging or is
that just kind of a league white games like.

Speaker 5 (51:36):
Oh, it's not encouraging to being close. We want to
win games. It's not about being close. Just that's just
stating the facts and the obviously of how the three
games have played out, where though how those games have
happened for us. But we're not here to just be close.
We're here to win the football game.

Speaker 20 (51:53):
That being said, you you know, you talk about how
close you all are, how you all have been in
those games, and even if you would have those games,
do you feel like that's still w the The win
would have masked some of the uh issues that you
all may have as far as you know, looking at
the the totality.

Speaker 1 (52:10):
Of the team.

Speaker 5 (52:11):
Oh, we go back no matter whin or loss, we
go back and we we dissect the film. Right, so
see issues whether you win or you lose. To me,
you attack the film the the same way every single time,
and you attacking to see first and foremost, how can
we be better? Right, no matter what the outcome of
the result of the game is, how do you get better?

(52:33):
That's what the that's what it's about now long season,
it's about how do you grow? How do you get
better each and every week? And so that's what we'll
that's what we'll do every time.

Speaker 21 (52:43):
Make no could you delineate on the track, just moving
in the same thing close making it making the proper
decision or move shifting the line or either getting a
chip from a tiny depending on whether pressure might become
particularly at a at a critical point, to properly looking
at your tree and then looking at your space and
on some of your receivers.

Speaker 18 (53:03):
Because I think, at least from my perspective, I think
you perceived as that the spacing on it onception because
it was so close within that is that is that
an issue that you can be addressed and you have
to just deal with moving.

Speaker 5 (53:15):
Forward as we as we go through the film, we
talk about the route distribution, right, the protection, all of
those things or things that you know, we bring up
and we look at to see how can we better
deploy guys to make sure we're giving ourselves the best
chance to have successful plays. So some of that comes
with uh protection, where we have a problem goud, we

(53:38):
may need to you know, put some chips on the
edge and make sure we're helping out when we have
a issue. Player like Josh Allen his did a really
good job on yesterday. We gotta find a way to
protect it better. H to come to route distribution or
some plays here it was good, Some plays we can
do better of distributing the guy. Some players we can

(54:01):
do better running the routes a proper way. So it's
all it's all of us. It's all inclusive, coaches, players, everybody,
just fine tuning things to make sure we are giving
ourselves the best chance.

Speaker 15 (54:15):
Right.

Speaker 22 (54:17):
How how do you over all feel about the communication
on the back endfield, there's times where it's a little
bigger communication that can lead to a bigger play in
the secondary. I just feel we're all about the communication
that's been going on in the second area.

Speaker 5 (54:29):
Yeah, when you see a big play that happens on
our defense, somewhere along the lines, there's a busting communication.
It all starts with communication, and it hasn't been as
crisp as it needs to be. So we have to
play better on the defensive side. We gotta communicate better,
and we gotta execute the defense better. And so, yeah,

(54:51):
we it's not not being great. We see that. We
have to make some adjustments there to make sure we
get it corrected.

Speaker 17 (54:59):
That isn't answer. But why do you feel like the
defense hasn't been able to close out games? I understand
the offense put a little bit of the strain, but
why do you feel like the defense hasn't been able
to close our games compared to what we saw in
the past.

Speaker 5 (55:12):
For us defensively, when I look at this past game,
thought we had multiple opportunities to take the ball away.
We had one hit us right in the hands, we
didn't take it away. We had one in Tampa Bay
hit us in the hands, we didn't take it away.
We had a couple where we're supposed to be a
deep safety, they throw the ball up and we're not

(55:34):
taking the football away. So there are multiple things where
we've had opportunities right defensively and we haven't capitalized on
those opportunities by being exactly where we're supposed to be
communicating the proper way, tackling the proper way. As a unit,
the tackling hasn't been up to our standard, and so
we have to get that fixed.

Speaker 19 (55:56):
You do you feel confident that last year kind similar struggles,
So you guys had similar struggles on offense, do you
feel confident now dealing with it that you're in better
position to oversee it than you.

Speaker 1 (56:08):
Were last year?

Speaker 5 (56:11):
For me, right now with our team, like when you
go through different each team, like no matter what year
it is, like, each team has its own it's faced
with its own adversity and different issues that arise. So
for me as the head coach, as a matter of okay,
different set of problems, different set of challenges, and I'm
up for it, right, That's why I'm here, Like that's

(56:33):
how we attack it. We'll get it all corrected, and
we'll get this thing going in the right direction. I
don't compare year to year for me. I said, this
is a different year twenty twenty three, completely different team,
twenty twenty four, completely different team. We're here, we have
different issues here in twenty twenty five, but we go

(56:54):
we attack it the right way, we attack it with
the right attitude, and we're gonna get this thing. Get
it ain't rolling in the right direction.

Speaker 1 (57:02):
What do you do to change?

Speaker 6 (57:03):
I mean, you know you've identify the challenges early on,
and if you have the same challenges, what you do
to try to check away.

Speaker 5 (57:11):
In those Yeah, you just go through it. You make
the the necessary adjustments you need to make right, whether
it's schematically, whether it's personnel, you just make the adjustments
that you need to make schematically and see how it
improves UH from week to week. So we'll take a
look at where we've been over these first three weeks.
Just take a deep dive and look into it and see,

(57:32):
like how can we UH first and foremost as coaches.
It always starts with the coaches, like how can we
put guys in better position? Like how can we help
the players to be in position to get on the
winning side of things. So it all start there with
how we plan, how we prep, and how we structure
practices throughout this week, and then we cut the players

(57:53):
loose and let them go play and let the players
go execute and do what they need to do.

Speaker 20 (57:56):
Put is some of the message into uh, you know,
to the team overall. But some of these young players
who haven't been through this type of adversity, Like you
got some players in their locker room that didn't lose
three games throughout their whole college career, three games in
a row throughout their whole college career. So how do
you keep you know, those younger players motivated, you know,
as the saying goes in the NFL one game.

Speaker 4 (58:18):
At a time.

Speaker 5 (58:18):
Yeah, for sure, you keep guys motivated by understanding storms
are gonna hit you in life, like whether it's yeah,
we do football, but also in real life, like storms
will arise, storms will come in your life, and it's
like when you go through the storm, are you coming
out stronger or are you getting ripped apart by the storm? Right?

(58:40):
And so there are different people who can handle those
at that adversity in the storm that comes, it's like,
how do you handle it. You gotta remain resilient, you
gotta remain strong through it. And it really tests your
character to see who are you? Who are you? Truly
as a as a player, as a as a man,
like how are you? Who are you? And we'll see that,

(59:01):
Like we'll see how we handle this as individuals. We'll
see how we handle this as a team.

Speaker 1 (59:06):
LA team will go.

Speaker 20 (59:07):
The last team to go to start the season falling
three and still make the playoffs was the twenty eighteen
Houston Texas And you know in the midst of that
they had that nine game winning street. Is that something
that you can see this team doing as far as
getting it back on track and ending up like they didn't?

Speaker 6 (59:25):
Did?

Speaker 5 (59:25):
I did not know that? So thanks for the history there.
But at anything can happen. Anything can happen. It all
starts with us first and foremost just playing cleaner right
and protecting the football like I know it's we were
in position there again, like to turn the ball over

(59:45):
three times and only take it one time. I don't
care who you're playing or when you're playing, it's gonna
be hard to win that game. We can try to
point fingers here there, this and that we have to
protect the football no matter what it looks like. If
we want to see our set, you know, start down
that track. We got to just make sure we're protecting
the football, taking it away when we have our opportunities,

(01:00:06):
and just playing cleaner, finishing the proper way. Talked about
the defense before. The general sense is if we.

Speaker 16 (01:00:13):
Take care of our business, we don't care as much
about how the offense that we're playing that recoperates offensively
with your team has some of the mistakes they've made
allowed the opposing defense to sort of dictate how things go.
And is it just simply cleaning up their own mistakes
so that your offense can.

Speaker 5 (01:00:32):
Dictate how Yeah, for sure. It is never about the
opponent to me, especially when you have the penalties that
we have on first down that puts us behind the sticks, right,
that has nothing to do with the opponent dictating anything.
It's things that we control and if we handle that
the right way, if we make sure we got a
proper hat on the hat in the run game and

(01:00:54):
make sure we're executed in the passing game, going through
our progression is the right way. Hitting the receipt like,
those are all things we controlled, not necessarily a defense
is dictating to us anything. We just gotta control, We
control and press forward.

Speaker 17 (01:01:07):
It was a a moment in the fourth quarter where
the campers cut you frustrated and you were kind of, uh,
kind of urging the offense alone. Where were you hoping
from our urgency from the offense at that moment or
or or what was frustrated?

Speaker 5 (01:01:20):
Who says I was urging the offense.

Speaker 11 (01:01:23):
Doing this?

Speaker 1 (01:01:24):
And uh, what does that.

Speaker 5 (01:01:25):
Mean just because I'm doing this that?

Speaker 17 (01:01:29):
And there's some people who saw your work the words
coming out of your mouth. But I'm just I'd have
wanted to ask you and not.

Speaker 5 (01:01:36):
Seam no when I you saw me, if you guys
saw me animated on the field, that was directed. I
think during that snap we got on the ball, we
went tempo, and the refs held the held our offense
from continuing to to run their play, and the ref
said that we were substituting, which we were not substituting.
No one on our sideline got off the sideline or moved,

(01:01:58):
and so they they didn't they didn't allow us to
run our tempo offense. They held the they held the huddle.
So that's who I was talking to. The official right
and making sure that we were able to run our
office the proper way because we weren't young.

Speaker 22 (01:02:12):
I'm just just we don't think you were plas So
just to clarify you weren't yelling at you weren't yelling
at it at the killing correctly.

Speaker 5 (01:02:18):
I just said I was talking to the official. No,
I was not yelling at any anybody on our sideline,
any coaches, any players.

Speaker 1 (01:02:31):
So it's too cool for that.

Speaker 21 (01:02:34):
On the wrap up, is this something that I know
all of y'all sent different things into the League office
about certain places. Is this something that you would know
going up to the League office about that particular issue
to the you know, holding you back and that y'all
not substitute because he's not just part of the overall than
that y'all sending.

Speaker 5 (01:02:53):
Up every week. If we have any issues anything that
arise from from that standpoint of how the game was
man as well, we'll go through it with the League
office and make sure we talk about that. And really
it's us about talking to the officials for the next
game of you know, things we want to do offensively.
If we wanted to do that, just have an awareness, Yeah,

(01:03:15):
Stingley it's still we're evaluating his oblique. He hurt is
oblique in the game early in the game yesterday, tried
to push through it. He couldn't uh pushed through it,
and so we're still evaluating him. Probably be day to
day with where he's at.

Speaker 20 (01:03:29):
Coach, I know that that you all can control with
you control as far as coaches is concerned, as far
as players and play on the field. But you know,
from this fans standpoint, they're looking at it and they're saying,
you know, this team is on three and you know,
for a lot of them, they don't feel.

Speaker 1 (01:03:46):
Like there's no coming back from that.

Speaker 20 (01:03:47):
What is you know, something that you could say to
the fans to you know, encourage them.

Speaker 1 (01:03:52):
To you know, just say hold on a you know,
jump ship.

Speaker 5 (01:03:54):
Yet, you know, we that's all we play the games,
right we're O and three and we don't want to
be on and three. But that's the matter of the fact.
That's where we are now, right. We we have to
go out, we have to play better. So for our fans,
just continue to support us if you want to. I
know how everybody gets rid of everybody gets upset. You know,

(01:04:16):
you should win every game. I get it. We're trying
to win every game. We're working hard, we're doing our best.
We just got to go play better to make sure
we give our fans something to be proud of.

Speaker 1 (01:04:27):
Coach, Coach, Jesus Christ, he's a coach.

Speaker 9 (01:04:36):
Coach, Coach, I want to look your boots one more time. Coach,
can you're looking at lick your boots one more time? Coach,
say some of the fans, Coach tell them and Sinson over. Coach, Seriously,
have we lost it? Have we lost it?

Speaker 5 (01:04:52):
Houston?

Speaker 1 (01:04:53):
We are an embarrassing so called media town. Coach. You
know they're the you win in three and uh, you
know the other team like Monty years ago, one, eight
or nine in a row. You guys can do that.
What's you supposed to say?

Speaker 22 (01:05:06):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (01:05:07):
Hell no, we can't do that. I would be lucky
to go forward and five in.

Speaker 2 (01:05:10):
The next nine games. My god, there are softballs and
then there are beach balls. I mean, my god, that
was interesting. I mean, is to make op poles pants
ever win? I mean, when we're gonna do that, Tell
me I'm wrong.

Speaker 1 (01:05:30):
I'm walking out of here. Tell me I'm wrong. I'm
walking out of here. Good God, le say good graci.

Speaker 2 (01:05:37):
I mean, look, we will be we will saw pedal
ourselves occasionally because the situation is you you get weekly parents,
you gotta you gotta play by the rules a little bit,
and you have to understand these things.

Speaker 1 (01:05:46):
But god, that's the necessary question.

Speaker 2 (01:05:48):
We don't but we don't ever avoid questions that we
and we don't foe.

Speaker 1 (01:05:53):
If I if I asked to email Doug'd be like, man,
shut the hell up.

Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
God, dang, that was bad. Oh awful. All right, we're
way laying for a break. But I oh, man, we
got to tell the truth.

Speaker 1 (01:06:10):
Coming up at about uh fifteen or some minutes here
on seven ninety, I never know why.

Speaker 2 (01:06:33):
All right, ROSSI did Demico Ryan's pull our station cord?
Hey you heard you talking trash and put us off
the air? Nikky s did you pull a cord somebody?

Speaker 1 (01:06:45):
Now I'm hearing a little slight echo. Yeah, just too.
I am too.

Speaker 2 (01:06:49):
So we can call Tom and get that echo fixed.
I'll be back in a second. Oh, you're gonna fix it.
It's nice. Yeah. How do I put this delicately? I've
never been delicated. We have great employees with great staff.
I love this. iHeartRadio family, which we live in Uh.
We just have a lot of technical issues that we

(01:07:11):
fight through and we're trying our best, and we're sorry.
I don't I don't mean to keep bringing up, and
I'm gonna stop bringing up. But it's just it's tough.
We on our station operating board fried and we lost
air for a couple of minutes.

Speaker 1 (01:07:23):
But now we're back. We're sounding better, bigger, and better
than ever sports Harvey.

Speaker 2 (01:07:27):
So I just put a moratorium many of them discussing
any of our many engineering issues here that we have
here at the station forever, or maybe I mean like
thirty days. That's more of a banishment than a morning's
all right, hit the music again. We gotta do a
little to tell the truth.

Speaker 1 (01:07:40):
Let's go.

Speaker 5 (01:07:43):
All right, here we go.

Speaker 1 (01:07:46):
We to answer to this one. It's catchy, isn't it.
You don't know how to tell the truth, but I
do not tell you I do. All right, gentlemen, I
have four takes, three of them I believe, oh one

(01:08:11):
I do not. Okay, which one of these four do
I not believe?

Speaker 5 (01:08:19):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (01:08:20):
Number one?

Speaker 2 (01:08:24):
This may be radical, but sometimes this is the hot,
takiest segment of the week. Would you say, have all
of our tanks. Of course, if the Texans don't make
the playoffs, guess what gang There is a certain owner
of this team, Hannah, I don't count cal who is
desperately trying to get a new, refurbished stadium, okay, and

(01:08:45):
trying to get well, there's an echo again.

Speaker 1 (01:08:47):
No it's not the We just dropped down an octave.
Sounds good. Oh, sound's up girl, You got old Joel Myers. Yeah,
we sound very deep. She wants to refurbish stadium. She wants,
she wants all the bells and whistles. She meaning Hannah,
is going to make a move that's going to please
the city of Houston to get her on their side.

(01:09:07):
She's gonna let Nick Cassero go okay, because this will
be a second straight year of an adequate offensive line,
and you're supposed to be winning games to get approval
for stadiums, not lose. You're not firing Tomiko, so it's
got to be and you've already fired the offensive line coach.

(01:09:28):
This is criminal.

Speaker 2 (01:09:29):
So if the Texans criminal make the playoffs, Hannah's going
to make a move and shock the world by firing Nicky.

Speaker 1 (01:09:34):
Some of these do you believe? One?

Speaker 7 (01:09:36):
Three?

Speaker 1 (01:09:36):
Of them, three of them you believe.

Speaker 2 (01:09:37):
Three? Okay, number two, even though this weekend was a
hot mess, the Astros are getting a wild card spot. Okay, Okay,
that's number two.

Speaker 6 (01:09:52):
Number three.

Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
Still, even though there are three weeks into the NFL
season and it's a very very small sample size good
and bad, the best quarterback in the AFC South this
year and maybe for the entire season will be.

Speaker 1 (01:10:10):
Daniel Jones.

Speaker 2 (01:10:14):
And number four. I despise the tush push. We saw
it twice in the Eagles game over the weekend. Okay,
the NFL doesn't care that. I don't like the tush push.
I think it's gonna stick around. That's my fourth take.
Which one of the four do I not believe? One

(01:10:36):
If the Texans don't make the playoffs, Hannah's gonna let
Nicky see go. Two the Astros make the playoffs. Three
Daniel Jones is far and away the best quarterback this
season in the AFC South, far and away, far and away.
And number four, I despise the tush push. The NFL
doesn't care. I think it's gonna stick around. Which one
of the four do I not believe? He's a very

(01:10:59):
hot already takes by the way, all not really.

Speaker 1 (01:11:02):
Wild card Spot's good. Yeah, I think wild card spot
that's gonna happen. You can put you name on it. No,
I'll put my gut on it. You got an ample one.
All the food we ate this weekend, we eat good.
We ate Darryl's. Lord, I had a fool Darryl's too.
That was too much Darryl, too much, Darryl. I don't
want to get crushed by the people of South louis

(01:11:24):
or Southwest Louisiana.

Speaker 2 (01:11:26):
Go ahead and say it. My shrimp the first time
I had it was great. My shrimp were a little
off this time, and thank you. I haven't suffered any
intestinal repercussions. But I was a little worried. Okay, back
normally Daryl's is great. Sorry, go ahead, good, which one
of the four?

Speaker 12 (01:11:45):
Now?

Speaker 1 (01:11:45):
I ain't the same same wich?

Speaker 22 (01:11:46):
You ate?

Speaker 1 (01:11:46):
And I'm fine, that's good.

Speaker 5 (01:11:48):
I'm yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:11:48):
I mean, like I said, everything's been pretty regular.

Speaker 5 (01:11:53):
But I was concerned.

Speaker 1 (01:11:55):
All right, go ahead, make your decisions. Which one of
the four do? I not pulleve.

Speaker 2 (01:11:58):
Okay, I think he believes they're going on the wild card.
I think he believes that tests will stick. Aroun because
they haven't gotten rid of it yet. They don't really
care about it to seem like they're gonna change it.
And I don't think, but I think he's lying about
Nicky C. Man I don't think they're gonna get rid
of him that. How long he's been here too, I
don't think they would throw four. How many years has
been there?

Speaker 5 (01:12:15):
Four?

Speaker 1 (01:12:15):
He drafted Davis Mills in twenty twenty three. Two, So
I'm going away. I'm sticking almost stick with two. That's
too right, Yes?

Speaker 8 (01:12:23):
Two?

Speaker 1 (01:12:24):
No two is the Ashers make the playoffsh what the
Nicky Sea one would. Daniel Jones is far away in
the best quarterback this season in the ANFC South.

Speaker 5 (01:12:31):
I mean I mean far.

Speaker 2 (01:12:32):
When he adds a far and away qualifier, that's when
you're trying to make a distinction of one of your
lies kind of he do.

Speaker 1 (01:12:37):
Say his fiery take, but I mean Daniel Jones.

Speaker 2 (01:12:40):
But that could happen. I mean he's the best one
right now. Yeah, General Manners is twenty one. Nick Caserio,
I'll go with one as well, so you believe that.
I think if the Texans don't make the playoffs, that
NICKI C Is gonna be gone. I don't think I'm
really gonna argue with you if with any of these

(01:13:01):
really Okay, so what you're going with?

Speaker 1 (01:13:03):
Yes, Jonathan, what are you going with?

Speaker 5 (01:13:05):
Same one? All right?

Speaker 1 (01:13:05):
Number one? I hate the push push. The NFL doesn't care.
They're going to continue to now.

Speaker 2 (01:13:09):
Well we start to see some more faalse start penalties,
hopefully okay, because there were two faal starts penalties in
that Philidelphia game yesterday, the left guard, both guards number two.
I can't believe it, but Daniel Jones looks like a
completely different quarterback. I don't know what he's wearing or
what he's eating in Indianapolis and didn't need in New York,
but he looks great. He looks confident, he can throw
the ball, he's play action well, he'll be the best

(01:13:31):
quarterback in this division. Team around him, he does. And
that's all a lot of it too. But he looks great.
And I do believe the Astros are gonna make the playoffs.
I believe that Nikki c is bringing all these little
New England connections in. Hannah's going to start getting really
mad when she goes to NeiMa Marcus and drops the
black card and they're going to be starting to.

Speaker 1 (01:13:50):
Make some little snippety statements.

Speaker 2 (01:13:54):
You don't make the playoffs with this team with all
the money that you have spent on these positions, skill
position layers, and you've neglected the offensive line for a
second straight year.

Speaker 1 (01:14:03):
I could see it. I could see it. Absolutely. It's
not probable, but I wouldn't be totally.

Speaker 2 (01:14:09):
Surprised if Nikky Seek has to fight the bullet of this,
because youve already changed coordinators once.

Speaker 1 (01:14:13):
I mean, what else are you gonna do? You're gonna
fire to Miko? Wait, so which one didn't you believe
it was?

Speaker 12 (01:14:17):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (01:14:17):
I don't said four of them? Answer is Rod, what
do you gotta from gonna yell? My statement is that
the Texans don't make the playoffs. Hannah's gonna fire, Nick,
You see I believe that. So what's the lie? Where's
the lie?

Speaker 5 (01:14:39):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (01:14:40):
Forget when I said for now, you throw me out?
You throw me out? What's the lie? The lie is
that Hannah is not gonna fire? Nick? I'm sorry, I misunderstood.
It's my phone. You got your own wrong.

Speaker 2 (01:14:54):
I don't like the board is fried. I'm screwed. Yeah,
number one, Look, so we were right. You guys are right. Okay,
he's not. She's not gonna know, she's not gonna fire him. Okay, no, no, no,
no man, no no, I apower. This is what happened
to you. Live a lie, folks. I lie so much
that you would think would be easier for me to
lie on the first David, we're free. You deserve that.

(01:15:17):
You absolutely deserve that for us. He crushed his knee
against the table. You at least a month. You would
deserve that, and I'm so happy for you. I deserve
it because you lie.

Speaker 1 (01:15:28):
I am a liar and I love to lie. Oh
my god, get out of here.

Speaker 2 (01:15:32):
Affordable tree service. I'm seven three. Oh my gosh. All right,

(01:15:53):
he's the Matt Thomas Show with ross.

Speaker 3 (01:16:04):
To nothing Le.

Speaker 1 (01:16:08):
Rossie. It's a free fall.

Speaker 22 (01:16:12):
One.

Speaker 1 (01:16:12):
I'm glad.

Speaker 2 (01:16:14):
I don't want you to look this up. And frankly
I should have asked you this before. But remember when
the Astros had a seven game lead. It's now a
three game deficit. That's a ten game free fall. And
what about three months give or take free falling? I
see what you did there time now at twelve o
eight for the news at noon. See where you startled

(01:16:36):
this bad boy. What we started all the news at nude.

Speaker 1 (01:16:40):
Cheddar cheese named the number one cheese in America Cutter's delicious, Jonathan,
you prefer cheddar cheese or Swiss cheese or seed? You
have a different favorite cheese.

Speaker 2 (01:16:51):
I'm a fan of the Provolone is very good on
a Philly cheese on the top of Yeah, yeah, I'm
I'm all.

Speaker 1 (01:16:59):
But the promo perhaps on a tangy sandwich. Yeah, you
can get it in with the peppers and the onion
then and you get your yo holgie was the had salami?
Well we didn't have much heart to saw me around here?
What good? Uh? Moving along in the news at noon,
astros get their faces caved in. Okay, that's too strong.

(01:17:22):
Wow I felt personal. Astros get smacked in their house.
Well that's also rude.

Speaker 23 (01:17:28):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:17:28):
Astros get their lunch taken and their girls stolen away
by the Seattle Mariners over the weekend. Yeah, you know
what the Seattle Mariners were.

Speaker 2 (01:17:35):
They were the guy that stepp up in the plane
major league and like, how's your wife and my kids?

Speaker 1 (01:17:39):
Yeah, they came over and took your girl, made you
watch mm how was it that I got that messed
that up. How's your wife and my kids? I don't
know what you're doing. How's my kids and your wife?

Speaker 3 (01:17:49):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:17:49):
I don't know. Uh got ahing on Friday six four,
on Saturday seven to three. On Sunday, you're three games out,
you lose the tie breaker. The good news is, though, Matt,
according to our fans at friends at Fangrafts, Astros playoff
odds are sixty five point six percent. So you can
take care of business, regroup on the day off, hit

(01:18:12):
it Sacramento, and take care of it against the A's.
How are you feeling?

Speaker 2 (01:18:18):
I brought this up at to tell the truth. I
didn't do it very eloquently. The Astros are making the playoffs. Yes,
I feel good making the playoffs. I feel good they're
gonna make playoffs. How far are they gonna go to
the playoffs. That's a different score, all right. Well, elsewhere

(01:18:39):
we've also been talking about. Of course, you're Houston Texans.
Ten points against Jaguars on seventy the terrible, offensively charged Jaguars.

Speaker 1 (01:18:50):
A defense is respectable. I give it a Matt. Your
point totals for the Texans this year nine nineteen to ten,
they have yet to score over twenty points. They are
the worst red zone team in football. They've been one
of the worst scoring teams in football, and they're zero
to three. There are seven all in two teams in

(01:19:12):
the NFL right now, Matthew, Are the Texans among the
worst five? You'll find out later in the week on
Ross's Rotten Five. Now, are we going to able to
find out what Wednesday? How the offensive line is doing?
Remember you wanted to be in the top twenty five.
They have been at some point. They have been thirty
second two straight weeks in the See you told me
that was like an easy pretty Like, oh, that's easy,

(01:19:32):
no problem. They've been bottom thirty two for three weeks.
They're gonna have to get some work done to get
to twenty five. Whoo, I'm not feeling I'm gonna guess
the over under this week is thirty one and a
half and over is the favorite.

Speaker 2 (01:19:52):
I got a real simple question for you, Okay, Now,
I'm not gonna hold you to it, not even a
gut feeling question right now in your gut, which is
needs you know you've had a lot of fatty food
this weekend?

Speaker 1 (01:20:04):
Are the texts making the playoffs? In my gut in
my heart of hearts. Yeah no, you still have Kansas City,
you still have Baltimore, you still have Buffalo.

Speaker 2 (01:20:17):
Get it done this weekend. You're only six and a
half point favorites. I mean, let's be on six and
a half point dogs lose weekly in the NFL Weekly.
I mean, sorry, win the underdog comes through YEP. Playoff
odds according to playoff status dot com.

Speaker 1 (01:20:33):
Whatever that is for your Houston Texans you want to guess,
I'll give you a hint. They're the bottom. They're in
the bottom five in football for fifteen percent. Oh wow.
Not great. But you know what, is this a byproduct
of first place schedule? Or this is a byproduct of
this team was vastly overrated start the season. Well, I

(01:20:54):
think you you've had some First of all, you've had
some bad luck with fumbles and Demiico Ryan's pointing out
you could have use some of the any one of
these games could have turned on its head. Unfortunately they
did not. And by the way, I lied, it's not
seven zero three teams, it's six six oh and three teams.

Speaker 2 (01:21:13):
So I'm gonna assume that one team does not make
the rotten five. Coming up in a few days.

Speaker 1 (01:21:17):
Only one of the I'm gonna tell you this, all
five of the rotten five.

Speaker 2 (01:21:20):
Gonna be owing three Will the Texans be able to
avoid such a terrible list?

Speaker 1 (01:21:27):
Fifteen percent playoff odds not great, Bob? All right? Anything
else going on in sports?

Speaker 7 (01:21:33):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:21:33):
You have the Baltimore Ravens taking on the Detroit Lions
tonight in Monday Night football. Those day Flowers and go
Jamiir Gibbs both teams. I would very much like Jamier
Gibbs more than three point five receptions. More on that
in an hour. Okay, but how are we feeling? Baltimore
minus four and a half. Total is very high, fifty

(01:21:56):
three and a half. It means a lot of scoring.
And quick note, by the way, the Texans minus six
and a half, but the total in that game thirty
nine and a half, meaning they're anticipating a very low
scoring affair. Correct, all right, that is the news at noon.
Two things have not discussed that I wanted to discuss.

Speaker 1 (01:22:15):
Were you bothered by Arches flexing over the same Houston player.
We'll discuss the coming back. Don't do it yet. And
we have a great example of why you should not
bet on sports No, I don't want to talk about
that either. You're just bringing up you know what.

Speaker 2 (01:22:31):
Yeah, are you gonna punch me the gut next segment two,
I'm gonna take your lunch money.

Speaker 5 (01:22:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:22:38):
Are you gonna tell me I'm adopted? Next segment too.
But I'm gonna just fine. Actually, I'm gonna have a
loving family.

Speaker 1 (01:22:43):
Yeah, I was gonna see. Your family loves you. They
don't want to disown you.

Speaker 4 (01:22:47):
All right.

Speaker 1 (01:22:47):
I want you guys to think about this, and ladies too.
For the next segment of the show.

Speaker 2 (01:22:55):
Twelve twenty two Sports Talk Saturday, we'll start taking these
responses in about ten.

Speaker 5 (01:23:00):
Now.

Speaker 1 (01:23:02):
I don't know if it's possible to be equal fan
of the Texans and the Astros. My guess is Prairie
Well could be. My also guess is we don't have
that here with this station's audience. I think in general
there are more people who are football people and people
who are baseball people. There can be some overlap, but
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:23:22):
Does it sound weird to be like you're you're kind
of if you're all in on football or all in
on baseball, you're kind of a different, two different kind
of sports fans that makes sense.

Speaker 1 (01:23:30):
For instance, if you were to split up my fandom,
I am.

Speaker 2 (01:23:37):
Sixty percent Rockets forty percent Astros for my pro fan.
I'm not talking about college, okay, I mean I don't
kind of college. And the reason why the Rockets are
sixty because I call their games. I'm gonna have a
natural just a leaning more towards their success. I love
the Astros too, have been a fan all of my life.
There could be people that are listening to our show
that are thirty three thirty three thirty three. There could

(01:23:59):
be people that could I'm one hundred percent Texans, zero
percent Astros on all. Like baseball, I think everybody's got
a lean, but everybody has a lean, So it's just
maybe a jaded question. But assuming that you were a
fifty to fifty you love the Astros and the Texans equally,
what pissed you off more this weekend? A regular o
mundane regular season Week three game was still fourteen weeks

(01:24:22):
left to play, right, It's not over or a ass
kicking by a team that you hate that they are
better than you are. No one's hiding that, and it
should be a credit to the organization. They were able
to stick around as long as they have been. And oh,
by the way, they go win this road trip or
maybe even win five or six. For sure, they're in

(01:24:45):
the playoffs. So life doesn't end for either one of
the teams. But you can certainly be just flat out
pissed off of what happened this weekend. It was collectively
a disaster weekend for the Houston pro teams. So what
made you more angry? What disappointed you more? What made
you sadder? I want you to give me an answer
on that. I mean, do you want my answer? So
I will say it for the next segment.

Speaker 1 (01:25:06):
Okay, what do you do? For this segment? We're gonna
talk about couple of things of the arch you want.
You wanted to gut punch me, and that's fine.

Speaker 2 (01:25:12):
Yeah, how was the arts? I didn't think anything of it.
Oh that was a great show of emotion. You know,
you really want a guys battling out there, and you
know we're out on the same field that you should
be you should be celebrating. I'm just kidding. You shouldn't
be doing it. I don't know what Art is doing.
It's Sam freaking here. It felt like to me that
was not an indictment against Sam Houston. That was a

(01:25:34):
I've been reading my press clippings.

Speaker 1 (01:25:37):
I feel like.

Speaker 2 (01:25:39):
There was a concerted effort from the entire team to celebrate,
place to get some get the I don't know, juice
is flowing or whatever you want to call it, get
some swagger back. I feel like there was at some
point Steve Sarkis and had the whole team in a
room and said, hey, you guys got to get your
swagger about. Go out there, celebrate, have fun, don't put

(01:25:59):
some much much pressure on yourself, and go out there
and have a good time. Because there was just it
wasn't just that play like they were celebrating, you know,
sacks and stops like it was. They were in the
they were in the playoffs. And I'll say this, I
got the sense watching the game like I did, like
you did. I'm sure that probably sarks said, don't let
them score at all. I think it was a main

(01:26:21):
goal of them not to allow any points, and obviously
that they did not. Yeah, if you want to buy
the way for those of you that are are our
casino enthusiasts and bettingers, there was a live prop that
was going on in the game the over under on
the live prop, meaning he was in the middle of
the game, was zero point five for Sam Houston scoring.

Speaker 1 (01:26:40):
I mean, that doesn't happen hardly. Yeah, they and they
did not score.

Speaker 12 (01:26:44):
No, they did not.

Speaker 1 (01:26:46):
So to me, yeah, I mean I wouldn't say I
didn't think it was the most It wasn't classy. But
I was also like, Okay, he's kissed off. It's a
tough season. No, don't show up against Sam Houston. No, no, no,
I don't think you should have done it. I mean
I'm saying he'd been better off not doing it, because
in Na has answered questions about it. But no matter

(01:27:07):
what he does, he's gonna get kicks, win unless he.

Speaker 2 (01:27:10):
Throws five touchdowns and is perfect every single game against
Alabama by the way, but I mean, come on, that
was a little much by like a winless Sam Houston,
who you're favored by forty points.

Speaker 1 (01:27:25):
Don't stand over the guy.

Speaker 2 (01:27:26):
You can celebrate and you can do all your like
your ten piece handshakes and all that type of stuff,
which he was. And quite frankly, even though his numbers
if you didn't watch the game at all, eighteen to
twenty one, wow, three zero nine three touchdowns, a couple
of runs.

Speaker 1 (01:27:39):
He was great. There's a lot of wide open guys
that he was still not making super accurate throws on,
So I'm not super encouraged. Quite.

Speaker 2 (01:27:49):
We'll get a strictly objective viewpoint here. Here we go
from Longhorn Scott Scott.

Speaker 1 (01:27:54):
What he got?

Speaker 4 (01:27:56):
Hey, guys, Well, I guess I would add this. You know,
here's a deal. You're you've been a Texas fan, if
you're a graduate or even just a fan and have
been for a long time, you get used to this.
But it's so typical the it's just it's so funny
to watch, Like, here's the guy that he wasn't out
saying he was the next coming of Jesus Christ. He

(01:28:19):
wasn't saying I'm gonna be the whatever. He's just a
guy and it's actually been pretty humble, and he goes out,
he doesn't have a great first game, and then of
course all the people that said all those things, well
now they're upset, so they're gonna tear the kid down.
That's fine, that's the nature of the beast. That's part
of it. No big deal. But and along the same vein, though,
what's being overlooked is they're earlier in the game, that

(01:28:42):
same player that he was standing over. And by the way,
I still wouldn't have done it either. I still think
you rise above this. But earlier in the game, that
kid had gotten a lig on him and stood over
him and was jocking and running his mouth. So fast
forward to this point later on in the game, he's
got all that, you know, and yeah, and all of

(01:29:03):
the frustrations mounting. You know, had a really nice night
and there weren't a lot of guys. He didn't hit
wide open ross I would disagree with that. There was
a couple of throws I saw where he was behind
a guy or high or whatever. But anyway, so this
guy who was John and him earlier in the game,
and now look at this, the worm has turned. You
come in at the last second, and he's gotten a

(01:29:25):
better view. I would say, as a Texas guy, you
just kind of look at him and laugh, because that's
all you got to do. You don't have to get
up and like, you know, position yourself and puff out
your chest. But to overlook the fact that this kid
had done the very thing to him earlier in the game.
As part of the part of like how all this

(01:29:46):
one down would be irresponsible but yet so typical of
sports media. So just adding a little bit of extra
color behind all of that or what it's worth.

Speaker 2 (01:29:58):
Yeah, I didn't see whatever player were talking about the book,
and we had a bunch of games on, so.

Speaker 1 (01:30:03):
That play I did not see.

Speaker 2 (01:30:05):
I will also say there are a couple sides of
the coin of what long Horns Scott said. Yes, Arch
Manning didn't ask for this hype. He's not doing, you know,
he's not going on the Fine Bomb Show five times
a week, and he's not building up his own hype,
and a lot of this hype that has happened has
been completely outside of his control, completely outside So yes,

(01:30:27):
he wasn't the one saying I'm a Heisman favorite. But
also at the same time, he's not turning down those
nil checks, So I think it's above board to criticize
him when he is not coming through, even though it
wasn't a hype that he manufactured on his own, I

(01:30:49):
can see. But kind of both sides is what I'm
saying there. As far as the hype, he has to understand,
and I think that probably are. I mean, I know
Arch understands the pressure's intense, the last name, the program dictations,
and the nil it's gonna come with it. So to him, Yeah,
I wouldn't do it again, do a pression on SEC
team because if you lose that game, you're gonna you're

(01:31:09):
gonna get worn out. So be careful, I would say,
just be very careful who you flex with. And maybe
it just don't even flex at all. Hmm wow, Sage,
your ward has never found but on this then on
this show right here, be careful with your flexes. Be
careful who you flex with. Yeah, I don't flex. I
don't flex very often at all. Yeah, I like on

(01:31:29):
a good old fashioned Twitter fight with somebody. But that's
not a flex. That's just trying to just backing up
my voice. By the way, me and my girl were
laughing at yo that twit. Yeah, because the guy called
us out and called it and then he got he
uh he deleted it.

Speaker 1 (01:31:44):
We screenshot we got you, bitch. Sorry, it is what
it is. That was pretty funny.

Speaker 2 (01:31:48):
After a grand slam that Jeremy Payne, you hit the
hitting coaches had nothing to do with, which has always
been my point because if like the coaches aren't retain,
there're gonna be people coming out. And so you told
you the coaches are bad, I'm gonna no matter who
it is, the players got to play. The players got
to perform Jeremy Payne or in jose A l two Va,
and these guys got to be better.

Speaker 1 (01:32:07):
And that's that's all I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (01:32:08):
Man, I know that's all you're saying, and it's it's
just funny to me that that guy came after you
and then deleted his tweet.

Speaker 1 (01:32:13):
Don't be a tweeter, which check came after all of us.

Speaker 2 (01:32:16):
Yet I ride it out with our seven ninety guys, except,
of course Adam Clayton twelve thirty two here on the
Matt Thomas, I'm just kidding at them.

Speaker 1 (01:32:22):
We just start with you sometimes seven one three, two
one two five, seven ninety.

Speaker 24 (01:32:28):
All right.

Speaker 1 (01:32:29):
I brought this question a couple of minutes ago, and
I want to repeat it.

Speaker 2 (01:32:33):
I know that all of you are not current equal
when it comes to your fandom, and I'm talking about
your fandoms. Split between the various sports teams, you could
be seventy percent Rockets, twenty percent text and ten percent Astros.
You could be ninety Astros, ten Rockets, zero Texans, you
could you split up your pie. But if you consider
yourself pretty much a fan of all the Houston sports teams,

(01:32:53):
and two of your sports teams had miserable weekends, what
made Jamar angrier?

Speaker 7 (01:33:01):
Now?

Speaker 2 (01:33:02):
Full admission. And I've told this before. I'm not a
Houston Texans fan. I'm an observer. We talk about them.

Speaker 1 (01:33:08):
I want them to be good because so many of
you that listen to the show are Texans fans, But
I have no even they've been around twenty plus years.
I've got no emotional attachment to the Houston Texans, and
I'm kind of comfortable my skin that way. ROSSI has
battle right for the last couple of years. Whoo, that's
been terrible so for me.

Speaker 2 (01:33:27):
When you close your eyes last night, okay, and you
weren't thinking about those bad beats I'm talking about think
about other stuff too.

Speaker 1 (01:33:36):
Yeah, me too.

Speaker 2 (01:33:37):
You and I are more like than you want to admit.
What pisched you off more this weekend? The Seattle coming
in here and taking the lunch money, and the girl,
the Texans losing to that wretched Jacksonville team. I think
it's easy go ahead. It's the Texans astros. I feel like,
look as they've been running on fumes. They did give

(01:33:58):
us a little hope with the text Rangers sweep you
go look up at you just look up and down.
Like I said, just read the lineup card. Read the
lineup card, look at the mound matchups. Seattle's favored in
all three games via Vegas. No, I'm sorry, yeah, you know,
they ended up favored a little.

Speaker 1 (01:34:14):
Bit on Friday.

Speaker 2 (01:34:14):
It was a minus one fifteen to minus one five.
So they're favored in all three games.

Speaker 1 (01:34:18):
They're the better team, they have the better roster, better pitching,
better hitting, all that stuff. You'd like them to get one.
And it was frustrating for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:34:28):
But this the Houston Texans being oer and three against
a bad, a bad Jacksonville team to where we can
excuse week in one and two to some extent because
you're number one. You're on the road against the Rams,
who are very good. They were dominating the Eagles. We
don't talk about the rest of that game. But the
Rams are good. The Rams are gonna win their division.
The Buccaneers are gonna win their division. And I know

(01:34:48):
you're on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but they
are not very good. You are supposed to be above
that class. And I know Vegas had them as dogs
before the game, so I understand. But you're supposed to
be good enough to where you can overcome that. That
was the expectation in the beginning of the season, was
not for you to be worse than Jacksonville. Oh, by
the way, they missed a field goal Jacksonville did, Yeah,

(01:35:09):
they missed it.

Speaker 13 (01:35:10):
It was a need.

Speaker 1 (01:35:12):
That's frankly easier than fair barons. And that's another thing
they tried to hand you that game. You're not very good.

Speaker 2 (01:35:18):
The issues that you're having right now you had last
season with play calling, offensive line, run game, pass catchers,
besides an ECO calls, discipline, penalty disciplines. You're getting your
you're racking up penalties. Your offense is having issues.

Speaker 1 (01:35:31):
Your defense is tiring at the end of games because
they have the whole thing for four quarters because you're
going three and out and you can't get more uh,
you can't get enough first downs. It's just the and
And I.

Speaker 2 (01:35:43):
Really really really don't like the phrase same old Texans,
but it fits.

Speaker 1 (01:35:50):
But it fits, it fits, It just fits. It's frustrating.
I'm way more frustrated with it.

Speaker 2 (01:35:56):
So let me tell you this, if I was a
tech since fan and I was equal parts, I'm going
to go the other direction on this and tell you
that I probably am more hurt about the Astros loss,
even though they've got a chance to make the playoffs.
The Mariners came in and took your lunch money. They

(01:36:17):
beat you up, they doubted yourself. And there is something
that has been talked about in these parts Ross that
we have not talked about since twenty sixteen, and as
thinking about the Astros not being in the postseason, that
is a bitter pill to swallow.

Speaker 1 (01:36:33):
Do we appreciate the time?

Speaker 5 (01:36:35):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (01:36:36):
Have we got accustomed to it?

Speaker 2 (01:36:38):
Absolutely, It's going to be very, very difficult to try
to be upbeat baseball guy, even with all the injuries
if this team at one point at a seven game
lead in the division and didn't even make the vault card.
Now again, I'm one hundred percent Astro zero textan. So

(01:36:59):
this is maybe just me more that me talking, but
that this weekend really hurt. We were embarrassed.

Speaker 1 (01:37:07):
Fromber was supposed to be Hunter was supposed to be
our ace, didn't get the job done. Fromer was supposed
to be our mini ace, not even close. So it
was supposed to be one.

Speaker 2 (01:37:15):
No, there was a point in the season where it
was one A, one B where we were literally arguing.
There was a point in like July or something where
we were like, man, would you start fromber in a
game one? Now we were still Hunter Team Hunter, but
it was close.

Speaker 1 (01:37:30):
It This hurt.

Speaker 2 (01:37:32):
This was the first sign that I really in my
mind going thought they're not making the playoffs. Now I've
since slept on a little bit, had that dream about
Sydney and we're fine.

Speaker 1 (01:37:42):
Sweeny of Corse. Okay, I thought Poitier when you guys
could be dancing.

Speaker 2 (01:37:48):
Her, I've never thought about Sidney Potier that way. Ever,
maybe you're having a dance off. Well, you just said
a dream. You didn't say what kind of dream it was.

Speaker 1 (01:37:54):
That's true. You guys could have been robbing a bank.
I don't know. Yeah, I was robbing a bank with
Sidney Sweeney. She went to the tailor and said, give
me all your money and I'll show you these and
she's they said, oh, here's the money. All right, all right,
phones we go next twelve forty three, it's a Matt
Thomas Show a Ross seven one three, two one two
five seven Onny Ross. What is today's edition of Believe
It or Not? I have no idea.

Speaker 2 (01:38:15):
It was a low energy performance by Houston sports teams
this Weeken, wouldn't you say, Matt?

Speaker 1 (01:38:19):
I would say so beautiful segue very low energy.

Speaker 2 (01:38:23):
By the way, Next Monday, Next Monday, one week from
tonight today, Ross and I will be at the Toda
Center for the Matt Thomas Show at Ross and we
will be there for Rockets Media Day. It is going
to be probably one of the more surreal episodes in
the history of this show because of a variety of things. One,

(01:38:46):
the Texans will be finishing a Sunday game. We've done
that before. We've done Monday games after Texans and games
there before. That's not the ordinary.

Speaker 6 (01:38:52):
Uh huh.

Speaker 1 (01:38:54):
Two?

Speaker 2 (01:38:55):
Are we celebrating an astro's playoff appearance or the end
of a run that's started in twenty seventeen? And three
Kevin Durant will be a guest on our show? What confirmed?
Kevin Durant not confirmed? But I would say better than
eighty percent. Okay, I'm scared now Before the phones got rand, Doug,

(01:39:21):
can you just leave during the interview and I'll handle it.
Here's the thing, I'm thinking a long, warm ball the
whole time. You've loved Kevin Durant, since you and I
have been doing this show together. That's correct, and you've
never wavered from that, no matter what uniform he's worn. Yes,
that's correct, no matter how defended him. When he joined
the Warriors, I was like, though I was on Durant Island,
you were out there by yourself. He's the best player

(01:39:41):
on those teams.

Speaker 1 (01:39:42):
Check the tape finals MVP, which is why I have
him greater all the time than Steph Curry. What's up?
So come at me, bro? Are you going to use
this as an opportunity for sports journalism or to be
one of his bros?

Speaker 2 (01:39:57):
I'm just gonna drool. Hey, friends, I'm gonna drool. And
then pass I had a buddy of mine, Jonathan lis'ten
be very careful. You said to have a show. Oh god,
And he was able to get Paul McCartney as one
of his guests. Okay, and that's pretty cool, right, And
all he did was remember that time you sang that
song and it was really popular, and he goes, yeah,

(01:40:19):
I was there and the host was like, I filled
this interview so bad. He goes, oh, I'm so stupid.
I'm so dumb. Okay, So I'm afraid that Ross is
gonna be the same thing. He's gonna have Kevin Durant
on and he's gonna say remember that time you scored
forty points in a game, and Kevin Durant's can be like, yeah,

(01:40:40):
I'm worried about you. Just completely fanborn in the five minutes.

Speaker 5 (01:40:44):
What if I do?

Speaker 1 (01:40:45):
I mean, okay with it? Yes, so what there will
be ten people in the history of my life that
I would like to interview that I would have fan
boy for five.

Speaker 2 (01:40:52):
Okay, we'll see what happens. I think I should be fine.
I won't know until it happens. But I will say
the only time I've been truly star Trek is struck
in this business.

Speaker 1 (01:41:02):
Is when we had no when I met Yea. I mean,
here's what I here's what I do know. And I'm
not speaking out of school on this. I mean I'm
trying to think of I interviewed Justin Verlander.

Speaker 11 (01:41:15):
I was cool.

Speaker 1 (01:41:16):
Yeah, he never came on this show twice. Actually, I
interviewed Justin Verlander. Yeah, and fan fast and you enjoyed it, right,
It was good. He's really a pretty thoughtful rack. He's
pretty a thoughtful guy.

Speaker 5 (01:41:27):
I don't I don't know why.

Speaker 2 (01:41:28):
Oh you know what, I was a little shaky with
Tom Herman. I couldn't get my question out. That's because
I didn't want to piss him off. Oh sorry, we
were in the ago. Yeah, that's right.

Speaker 5 (01:41:37):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:41:37):
So here's what I know about Kevin Durant. He is
basketball through and through. Of course, he's a hooper. He's
born he is.

Speaker 1 (01:41:46):
He's not looking to create a huge TV show career.
He's not Jones going to be an analyst. He's not
looking to host a serious podcast. In the very end,
he's a Twitter Hall of Famer. He is a Twitter
Hall of Famer. He's a Burner hall of Famer. He'd
be the first wanted to bring that up. But it's fine.
He's been off the burner. He's been off burner for years.

Speaker 5 (01:42:03):
Matt.

Speaker 2 (01:42:03):
You always want to bring up one mistake when you
got a burner. I got a burner way Busters H show.
You probably gonna go dormant for the next six months.
But that's fine. Point being is he's all about basketball.
I don't think there'll be a lot of little chit
chat between he and me and me and you and him.
But he's also a guy that I think is determined
to play into his forties. He wants to be as

(01:42:26):
every bit of the longevity of the lebron James I think.
I think that drives him. And every time I look
at the film that they're showing of him and working out,
it's like he's twenty three years old shooting basketball.

Speaker 5 (01:42:35):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:42:36):
Again, the body may look twenty three, but those bones
are still thirty eight or whatever they are, thirty six seven. Yeah,
I'm excited. We've been in the league a long time.
Longhorn legit. I have had the great opportunity to call
games for the Rockets involving James, Harden, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard.
These are all Hall of famers, and I'm adding another

(01:42:58):
one in the list and fally Dante. I don't believe
in fally Dante's going to make it.

Speaker 1 (01:43:02):
PJ. Tucker. PJ.

Speaker 2 (01:43:03):
Tucker is not gonna make it. He is a goat,
but he's he's not a He's not the role player
Hall of Fame. I think he's in the shoe Hall
of Fame.

Speaker 1 (01:43:10):
Yeah, that's true. Sneakerhead Hall of Fame. Let's go to
the phones.

Speaker 2 (01:43:13):
Talk to Ray on seven ninety and twelve fifty four. Ray,
good afternoon, and thank you for holding hey, thank you.

Speaker 24 (01:43:20):
I appreciate your Rockets coverage and calling the games up
and listening.

Speaker 1 (01:43:24):
Thank you, thank you.

Speaker 24 (01:43:26):
I'll put your number two behind Gene because nobody can
replace Gene, and I will.

Speaker 1 (01:43:30):
I will accept you a lot of that.

Speaker 24 (01:43:32):
No, I would like to hear a lot of that
during the commercial blak.

Speaker 1 (01:43:35):
I got it behind Craig am too the right.

Speaker 24 (01:43:38):
Yeah, I love Craig, you know, because Craig was the throwback.

Speaker 1 (01:43:42):
Just kidding, Matt.

Speaker 24 (01:43:46):
No, but oh, CJ. I think that it's past the regression.
I think that CJ has actually taking three like his
five step drop. He's taking five steps back, and I
don't think nothing's gonna help CJ.

Speaker 5 (01:44:01):
CJ.

Speaker 24 (01:44:02):
I feel sorry for you. I don't blame the offensive line,
because every Sunday I see quarterbacks offensive line collapse, they
roll out and make a play. They even Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 6 (01:44:12):
I love him.

Speaker 24 (01:44:13):
You're Texas boy. Patrick Mahomes is not gonna let you
get him. He's gonna scramble out. He's gonna get that
first down or some of it, and if you if
you catch you slipping, he's gonna.

Speaker 12 (01:44:22):
Throw a bomb.

Speaker 9 (01:44:24):
And CJ.

Speaker 24 (01:44:25):
I don't want to hear about the mental part either,
because you've been through this as you was a kid
with Snoop Dogg and you know, with the calls and everything.
I don't want to hear that you're playing soft. And
I wish you wake up and put a hat on
a hat and try to do something because right now
I'm nervous because Derek Stingley is the best player on
that roster. And I'll argue that with anybody, Derek Stingley

(01:44:46):
is the best one on that team. Without Stingley, you're
super trash. Because CJ man for man, play for play,
down for down, nobody can be stinging on that team.
I don't care about Anderson Junior. I don't care about DJ.
I don't care about running back, none of that. And
number two is the running.

Speaker 11 (01:45:04):
Back, but he's hurt.

Speaker 24 (01:45:05):
So CJ is number three or four on that team
behind Eko, and he should be number one. He's throwing
the ball every play, but you're the fourth best player
and the defensive guy is the best player on the team.
And coach Dimico, you think I'm lying, prove me wrong
even You know what, Demiko, that Steing is the best
on that team, and you wish it would CJ, but

(01:45:26):
it's Stingley.

Speaker 6 (01:45:27):
And once again, I'll hang.

Speaker 11 (01:45:29):
Up and the cry.

Speaker 1 (01:45:31):
All right, thank you very much, appreciate the phone call.
If I'm starting a Texans team right now, defensively, I'm
choosing well Anderson. Yeah, I mean, I mean it's what
it could be, one A and one B. I mean,
I get it. I would go with that too.

Speaker 2 (01:45:49):
I mean, because a pass rusher inherently is going to
be more more valuable than a cornerback.

Speaker 1 (01:45:55):
But that's pretty good too.

Speaker 2 (01:45:58):
And if you just go look at look at the South,
I mean average average, it's basically quarterback, left tackle, pass rusher.

Speaker 1 (01:46:06):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (01:46:06):
All right, uh, Conrad, James and Doug We'll get to
you to open up the final hour of the show. Yeah,
will Anderson more valuable? I guess it's arguable who's better
at their job. It's harder to find a spectacular cover
man instantly's All Pro first team. But I could have
taken Sauce Gartner too, So that's one of Thomas Sports enterprises.
Derek Staneer has been greats first Team Allpro, Carners corner, Suscarner.

Speaker 1 (01:46:33):
Good player. He's sallying me very well. I don't know
why you started talking like Mac brown Texas football. By
the way, have you've known this North Kalina football since
I left? Arch Manning is a great kid. He's a
great young man. And I think he's gonna be well
for that. He's gonna play well for the Texas long Horns.
There's a lot of pressure when you play in Austin.
There's a lot of eyeballs on Mark Manning. I think
he's gonna come through. His name is Arch not Mark Manning.

(01:46:53):
That too, that's his cousin.

Speaker 23 (01:46:55):
We had.

Speaker 1 (01:46:56):
We had an arch and and we had his pops
over and his nephews and his brothers and uncles, and
the Sally mid some of her famous very peach cobbler
with vanilla bean ice cream, because that is deep bass
of ice cream now though French, not ringing a vanello,
just deep Enelopean. And I gotta tell you, Cooper Manning
is the most funny of the all the Mannings. But
you had to have personality when you're not a Hall
of Fame quarterback and you got a bad disc and
you can't play football anymore. All right, what's wrong with

(01:47:18):
spinal stenosis?

Speaker 5 (01:47:19):
I think it was.

Speaker 1 (01:47:21):
That's no good funny though, you got to develop.

Speaker 2 (01:47:24):
Let me take something. I right, funny ones already got
always got a personality.

Speaker 5 (01:47:27):
It's you know what.

Speaker 1 (01:47:28):
Back in the day when I was fat and into girls,
it was a funny. Hey, man, that's mad. That's mad.
That's funny. You're not good looking, but he's funny.

Speaker 12 (01:47:35):
See.

Speaker 1 (01:47:35):
Now you got to bring something to the table. Now
I'm both what both what? It's funny.

Speaker 2 (01:47:40):
We were playing cards at the table yesterday, Johnah, this
is a real story. The three women that were next
to us said, hey, you look some like someone. I said, yeah,
Mathew McConaughey. They said, yes, you do. That's actually a
very good uh.

Speaker 1 (01:47:51):
Choice there must that must have been when I was
at the bathroom.

Speaker 5 (01:47:57):
I did.

Speaker 1 (01:48:00):
Maybe never mind? Yeah, shut up.

Speaker 2 (01:48:03):
Final hour of the mat to a certain role Stop
Matt Thomas Show with Ross back with sixty minutes.

Speaker 1 (01:48:09):
Of radio is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross What
four on Sports Talk seven to ninety. We've got phone
calls to get dude. Doug and James will get you
in a second real quick. We're not a huge college
basketball time except for the future national champions and uh

(01:48:34):
that'll be of course. The Houston called no no, no,
no no no. Bruce Pearl, coach at Auburn resigning today.
I think, is this is this a breaking news sounder?

Speaker 5 (01:48:46):
To give it one?

Speaker 1 (01:48:47):
I'll give it a one. Yeah, I mean probably in Auburn,
it's two yea if we want, oh now my nay,
oh boy, now brou prol over time. Man, I can't
believe it. Okay, So three things come to mind.

Speaker 5 (01:49:01):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (01:49:01):
One, he's in poorous health, Okay, because it's so. I mean, look,
we're in September, the season season. By the way, he's
you know, the new head coaches for Auburn. I don't
his son, Steven. Mepotism works, folks. Okay, so let me
give you one his health.

Speaker 2 (01:49:23):
Two, the NIL game beats him down, the NL I
mean nil, I'm saying nil, beating down the older coaches.

Speaker 6 (01:49:35):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (01:49:35):
Number Three, the Nuba is knocking on the door. Could
be because it already knocked once happened in Tennessee, right, Yeah,
absolutely did knocking on his Explain to me, I'm they're
coming after him. He did something illegal, Yeah, he was.
He was had a bunch of n C double A
in fractions when he was at Tennessee. Yeah, let's see
additional n C double A and let's see. Yeah, can

(01:49:59):
I make a make Can I make a guess?

Speaker 1 (01:50:02):
Go ahead?

Speaker 2 (01:50:03):
He's going to say in his retirement press conference that
the nil is for a young man's game. Yeah, Auburn Alabama,
You're probably not getting a bunch of cash. First of all,
Bruce Pearl is going to retire very very wealthy. Second all,
he's going to be on national television calling games or
doing studios. He's very, very eloquent, very good on air.

Speaker 1 (01:50:26):
So he's he may be done from coaching, he hands
it off to his son, but he will certainly be
able to make some money.

Speaker 2 (01:50:34):
Final poll last year they finished fourth. Auburn one of
the few teams that beat the University of Houston last year.

Speaker 1 (01:50:41):
That's true. That was like a last second thing right
at Toti Center.

Speaker 2 (01:50:43):
I think too. Yeah, we got Florida State coming in
this year. That'll be a piece of cake. So, yeah,
be a cakewalk. Yeah, is that going in Toyota Center. Yepkay,
our non conference at home is not good. I heard
it's ten tickets for one for ten yeah, no, no, no,
we're doing ads for Florida State Houston, so we're going
to support that game. Ross we we iHeart your employer,

(01:51:06):
we but not me. I'm not doing commercials POC. You're
the commercial staff one. Easy to the phones, we go,
get you out of this hole. You're digging yourself. Doug
in South podre on the Matt Thomas Show with Ross Doug,
Good afternoon, and thank you for holding how.

Speaker 12 (01:51:23):
The going guys show as always, you know, in response
to your question, you know, going up in Houston and
being a Cougar alum, I think most people that did that,
it's Rockets, Astros Texans Cougar is equal. But in response
to your question to me that the Texans loss was
the most disappointing because when you look on paper, I'm

(01:51:43):
surprised the Astros have done as well as they have.
I mean, the outfielder is anemic, Christian Walker his his woes.
But on paper they're pitching staff. With all the injuries
and their team, you don't really expect them to go
to the World Series. Whereas with the Texans on paper,
everybody's expecting them to be in the Super Bowl. So
although both were very, very disheartening, I think the Texas lost.

(01:52:05):
To me, it was just was more of a gut
punch than the Astros because I kind of expected that
with the Astros and it's out.

Speaker 6 (01:52:11):
Now.

Speaker 12 (01:52:11):
If you don't watch good football, you need to watch
the Cougars play.

Speaker 1 (01:52:15):
Uh yeah, it's uh Kug's the reality is Doug And
you're right. I wish more people would gravitates the Cougars
because it's a better product.

Speaker 2 (01:52:24):
I mean it's more drum, but that doesn't happen. You
don't lose your NFL in baseball fantom and go, well,
I'm gonna watch the lower league. And no man of
saying college is lower, but it's just a different level. Yeah,
it's just the university.

Speaker 1 (01:52:41):
We've had down Houston sports teams for the Rockets, Astros
and Texans, and it hasn't all of a sudden. I mean,
University of Houston ticket sales did not go up three
hundred percent because the Cougar the Rockets were losing sixty
games five years ago, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (01:52:52):
It's just it doesn't translate either a fan of a
school or you're not. And in this part of the country,
when you are a fan of every school in this
area Texas Tech, A and m Houston, Baylor, Arkansas, LSU,
I mean, I'd like to get some more Cougar people
that are not Cougar fans go to these events, but.

Speaker 1 (01:53:11):
I just think that's just not gonna happen. By the way,
real quick on this couple updates for you. The Texas
Florida game week, which will be two weeks from last Saturday,
not this Saturday, but the following Saturday, is a two
thirty start at Florida. The Cougar is playing tex Attack
will be a six o'clock start, So there you go. Both.

Speaker 2 (01:53:31):
I believe the Texas Flida games ABC and the Houston
Texa Tech game is eespny fun.

Speaker 1 (01:53:39):
That's a good day of football right there. Well, Texas
Florida during the day and Texa Tech Houston at night
for supremacy in the Big twelve. Baby, let's go huge, huge.
I still have a prediction of I might be there.
We don't have to come. We're actually when we don't
really need you players canna be jammed. You gonna take
that rof with raid raiders fans. I don't care who

(01:54:01):
comes up, just by the damn tickets to get in
the building. Shut the door, let's go. You don't care,
that's I mean, what what does that say about your
athletic program? Like, Oh, we don't care if the imposing
team runs over our stadium. Look, we're gonna have forty
one thousand people there. If ten thousand I want to
be tech tech fans, I don't care. That's comiculous. That
is ridiculous out loud. Why would I care? You would
want it? You don't want it packed with your fans.

(01:54:22):
I would like to have forty thousand.

Speaker 3 (01:54:24):
You know what, you know?

Speaker 1 (01:54:25):
We are ross, We are polite. We let other people
come in. No exactly, come over there and run over
and take over your territory. You are a huge enrollment
University of Houston with a large fan base, and you
you you're gonna say we don't want forty thousand people.
I want forty thousand people. Okay, what are you talking about?

Speaker 11 (01:54:44):
Dan?

Speaker 2 (01:54:45):
But let me tell you the text tech crowd. That's
a good crowd. They don't have drink and eat well.
Enrollment twenty twenty four forty seven, nine and eighty. If
every student went to place be full, and then you
got years and years and years and years of a
lums and a big fan base. Yeah, and you can't
get But if text tech fan wants to come, that's sad.

(01:55:06):
Just don't bring the damn tortillas that that will causelection.
They're gonna be tossing up tortillas in there. I know
they're from of those people a lot actually. Conrod James
at one eleven on seven ninety c J Good afternoon
to you.

Speaker 6 (01:55:21):
Good afternoon to you, sir. I've been part of Astro
Nation since nineteen eighty when I first moved here, and
I'm used to having some winning streaks and winning periods.
And I want to say at this point as a fan,
I don't care if the Astros make the playoffs because

(01:55:44):
it's too gut wrenching to watch them. And here's why
we rank at the bottom of getting people home when
players are in scoring position. Okay, there's no excuse for it.
We got the players. We've got Panya, We've got Grea,

(01:56:04):
you know, we have Alto Bay. You know we have
some good hitters. We got the hard word. We're just
not getting them home. I don't want to hear about
Alvarez has sprain ankle. You know that's hurting us. I'm
tired of all the excuses. We do have a good
team and we should be doing a lot better. And

(01:56:26):
I'll just go back to twenty twenty three, when all
we had to do was win one game at home.
We had two games at home. All we had to
do was win one to make it to the World
Series again. So this has been an ongoing drama for
the Astros. Can't get people home, That's what I have
to say.

Speaker 1 (01:56:53):
Okay, okay, thank you. I don't get some of y'all.

Speaker 5 (01:56:59):
I just don't.

Speaker 1 (01:57:01):
Why do you want to watch sports if you don't
want your team to win?

Speaker 5 (01:57:06):
And I don't.

Speaker 2 (01:57:07):
You don't need to give me a list of Well,
I've seen it before, and I'm no. I mean, let
me tell you something. It's easier not to be a
fan if you don't want to be a fan. I'm
not a fan of the Texan so when they lose,
I don't really care. But I'm a fan of some
teams and I do care, and I'm a fan of
the Astros. I want them to win.

Speaker 23 (01:57:29):
It.

Speaker 1 (01:57:29):
So if you call yourself a fan of a team,
you want them to be as good and successful in
deep playoffs and at least hoping everyday to get the
World Series. Because if you don't care about any of
that stuff I just said, then don't be a fan.
It will be easier for you. Trust me, I know
these things.

Speaker 2 (01:57:46):
This a little roller coaster that well the roller coaster.
Really this whole year has been really interesting. I mean,
going into the series Friday, after sweeping the Rangers, winning
five of the last six, man we were riding high.
And then the weekend happened because remember the Rangers came
in playing pretty good baseball too. It wasn't like you
were taking on a team was bat in four hundred,
you know, or playing four hundred.

Speaker 1 (01:58:07):
Knocked out to Gram and Kelly in the last two
games that series, I was feeling good. I'm just telling
you they're going to pack pieces together something. If you
don't want the Astros to make the playoffs, if that is,
if those words have crossed, have uttered but out of
your lips, then just disassociate yourself with it.

Speaker 2 (01:58:26):
In one day, I don't watch the games games, and
that's okay. You don't have to watch name I force
you to. We'd like you to, we'd like you to
listen to.

Speaker 5 (01:58:34):
Talk to us.

Speaker 2 (01:58:35):
Very good for us if you pay attention. Actually, Matt,
shut up, tell them to pay attention.

Speaker 1 (01:58:41):
We need you all in. But don't but don't.

Speaker 2 (01:58:43):
But if you know, but if you don't want them
to make the playoffs, then you're not a fan because
fan means fanatic.

Speaker 1 (01:58:49):
You are fanatical about your team.

Speaker 2 (01:58:52):
And I've never met a fan in my life that
said I am a fan of said team, and I
hope it was ninety five times. I am a they
call me Texans, Matt. I want them to go three
and fourteen, that those that that sentence never comes out
of anyone's mouth, battle y Ross once, seventeen and no,
Now we've got to settle for fourteen and three. Baltimore, Hey,

(01:59:16):
they got it. Thirteen and four, don't start, don't start
in shush kandas city tweve and five win Bill's eleven
and cent victory, Colts split that Nope, sweet ten and seven?
Sweet okay, fourteen and three. You heard it here first.
You're the only plus I'm gonna be hearing it too.

(01:59:37):
One fifteen on Sports Talks, somebody you need to start
working on Believing or Not?

Speaker 1 (01:59:40):
Will you please do that? Yeah, I'm working on more
important stuff.

Speaker 12 (01:59:42):
Matt.

Speaker 2 (01:59:43):
By the way, we will be playing Believe It or
Not today. All things about Bruce Pearl, he just resigned
as the head coach of Auburn's basketball team. Had a
couple of listeners, Jay and Steven shout out to both
of you. There is some rumors out there that he
may be running for US Senate. Hmmm, a little political
career for him. You're shaking her head over there, for

(02:00:05):
we got sports people running for politics all the time.
We got Tommy Tupperville is and a senator somewhere. I
think you got, uh, well, what else we got? Who
else is sports letter that's in politics? Tommy Tupperville, I
don't know. Steve Largent was a US representative for a while.
I want to say geryld Ford. Gerald Ford played ball

(02:00:27):
at Michigan. Well, who else has in sports that was?
Is there somebody that I'm painfully obvious? Oh, George Bush.
Didn't he play college ball.

Speaker 1 (02:00:37):
Or something Yale or something baseball?

Speaker 5 (02:00:39):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:00:40):
But I mean was he a sports figure? Whoever?

Speaker 2 (02:00:42):
You talking about figures? Yeah, I'm sure there's somewhere definitely missing. Yeah,
some of them something to ponder. Oh didn't know, well,
Herscha Walker ran for Senate and lost. You lost in
a run off, but he lost. I mean, Hal, Steve
and A can be running for president.

Speaker 1 (02:01:02):
You never know. Bill Bradley, Bill Bradley, New York.

Speaker 5 (02:01:04):
Nick.

Speaker 2 (02:01:05):
I googled, Oh, you've already got a list, Sam, Yeah,
give me a few more. Chris Dudley, Oh yeah, former
Portland trailblazer, A big man. Dwight Eisenhower played for Army.
But I think, oh, what's the Kevin Johnson? Right, he
became the mayor Sacramentos, mayor Sacramento. He was the one
that got the arena for downtown Sacramento. The Kings are

(02:01:26):
still in the Sacramento Kings thanks to part of Kevin Johnson.
Of course, he got in some off the not off
the corp what would you call it, off of the
mayor's mansion legal issues.

Speaker 1 (02:01:36):
You mentioned Steve Largent.

Speaker 2 (02:01:38):
Sorry I wasn't listening to Steve larg Tom McMillan, Uh, yeah,
I want to say a former Washington bullet he was
a Maryland House of Representative.

Speaker 1 (02:01:47):
Yeah, is that what Fitt says? Member? Yeah, the top
Tarberbill is the current one. Isn't he a senator somewhere?
Wait a second, should this be believe it or not?
Or should it not?

Speaker 2 (02:01:58):
Magleoor don mag don't you he was? He was mayor
of Jue Antonio Sotillo Municipality and one of your favorite boxers.
Had a long political career. He was what Tom Osbourne, Yeah,
Manny Pacia was Uh yeah. He he ran for senator,
congress or something about Philippines, right, yeah, phill in the Philippines.

(02:02:21):
He won a bunch of times.

Speaker 1 (02:02:23):
That's insane.

Speaker 6 (02:02:24):
I know.

Speaker 1 (02:02:26):
Oh Lynn Swan, Lynn Swan, what he ran for Pennsylvania governor?
Did he win?

Speaker 3 (02:02:34):
No?

Speaker 1 (02:02:34):
No, I remember he was. Oh yes, my fishing buddy.
We should have gotten by the way real quick on this,
real real quick on this ross. You know I love wrestling, Yes,
I don't love current wrestling. Okay, I am all. I mean,
I go to sleep. I I listened to old podcasts

(02:02:54):
of old wrestling stuff. Wonderful. Did you see the third
headline on Sports Center after the I mean Cowbo Colorado
game on Saturday night? You may have been at the casino.
I went back to the hotel. It was probably knee
deep at the Blackjack table. So it was this game,
this game whatever. The two games were the third big
headline Sena Versus brock Lessener in Wressell Palooza Palosa.

Speaker 2 (02:03:23):
They're just running out of names now. Well, so ESPN
handles Fest. I'm sure there's gonna be one of those two.
So ESPN now does pay per view events self serving? Yes,
I mean, look, it's not the John Cena Versus brock Lesseners.
It's not the third most important sports thing on Saturday.

(02:03:45):
I'm sorry it's not. But it's embarrassing. It's embarrassing. ESPN
has said we're going to once again, We're gonna give
you a predetermined, fake event and make it one of
our top headlines. That's bad, and I don't like wrestling,
but I but I'm not going to hide the fact
of what it is. When's the last time you watched

(02:04:06):
a full WrestleMania never ever? No, I shouldn't say never ever,
gotta be thirty years really? Yeah, Okay, when's the last
time you, uh went?

Speaker 1 (02:04:18):
You went?

Speaker 2 (02:04:20):
How many times you've been? How many time has Clinton been?
Like ten, Clinton's gone, I've been to zero WrestleManias. I
think he's been to four or five. The last time
I saw real wrestling, or I mean a real event
in town was at Tota Center.

Speaker 1 (02:04:30):
Was it last year?

Speaker 2 (02:04:31):
No, it's been probably four or five. Okay, good season flies,
all right, let's go h Roger free Huh? How dare
you ask that?

Speaker 1 (02:04:43):
Sorry?

Speaker 15 (02:04:44):
You know what?

Speaker 1 (02:04:45):
I'm sorry. I'll we write that down. Yeah, save it
for Friday. You ever noticed, Jonathan he always thinks I
don't pay for things?

Speaker 5 (02:04:51):
Yeah, you know what?

Speaker 1 (02:04:51):
What's that? What's what that you have?

Speaker 12 (02:04:54):
I have?

Speaker 1 (02:04:55):
I accused him of not paying for something and he
paid for it. Yet I can help you here, Matt,
I don't know. I don't know.

Speaker 12 (02:05:06):
Here.

Speaker 6 (02:05:07):
I just ask.

Speaker 1 (02:05:11):
To the phone, to the phones and next.

Speaker 2 (02:05:15):
Next segment is a lot of Roger, a little bit
of James Zero Ross.

Speaker 1 (02:05:19):
He's gotta work. I believe it or not anyway one
seven ninety Madden, Ross said one thirty four Bruce Pearl,
believe it or not? Today? Resigning as a head coach

(02:05:42):
at Auburn is politics in the future? Is TV in
the future? It could be some both.

Speaker 11 (02:05:48):
You never know.

Speaker 2 (02:05:49):
By the way, I need a ruling, our buddy, Jason
Arnold Schwartzeninggger sports mister Olympia. I don't think it's I
don't think bodybuilding is. Yeah, I would say it is.
It's competitive and it's physical. You need a trainer and
a coach to do it.

Speaker 1 (02:06:13):
He was a big star. You watched it.

Speaker 2 (02:06:15):
There was a Netflix documentary on him that's pretty good.
But when you think of him, I think of him
more as a movie actor. The Olympic think of him
as well. You know what, No, no, he doesn't count
because he wouldn't have won governor if he wouldn't a
movie star. He wouldn't won governor if he was just
on a mister, if he was just playing mister Olympia,
he would not have been the governor.

Speaker 5 (02:06:35):
But he won't.

Speaker 2 (02:06:36):
But yeah, so sorry, Jay, you lose. I love you though,
mm hmm. But how many bodybuilding calls will be taken
in the history of sports?

Speaker 12 (02:06:42):
Right?

Speaker 1 (02:06:43):
If you talk about all time interesting lives? Oh, I'm
sure this made would agree with you.

Speaker 2 (02:06:47):
Hey, come on, Yeah, the documentary on him on Netflix
was really interesting. But how he grew up in Australia,
I mean Austria, Austria a little different, a little different.
He grew up in Austria and all that stuff, and
you know, he had had fathered grown up in the
fallout of a World War two, and then he grew
up poor, and then he started bodybuilding and came over

(02:07:08):
to America, took America by storm.

Speaker 1 (02:07:10):
It's it's very interesting life lived by by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Yeah,
very successful. Few blemishers along the way. Well, nobody's perfect.
He he became freaking governor of California.

Speaker 2 (02:07:23):
What's more incredible? Ronald Reagan President Jesse Ventura governor, Arnold
Schwarzenegger governor president wins Well, I mean bit more. But
but Ronald Ringan was the governor of California. He had
a political background before he became the president. He had
tried to run for president a couple of times. So
Rond Ringan had a pretty distinguished political career. Ventura was like,

(02:07:45):
if y'all, I'm just gonna try this and see if
I win. Any won Schwarzenegger, I don't think he had
much of a political career, did he didn't? Didn't Ventura
win as a an independent or like a Green Party
or some other party. Yeah, in Minnesota and Pressige although
you know how about Sunny Bono being the mayor of
Palm Spring, Clint East what was a mayor of some
of the Malibu?

Speaker 1 (02:08:05):
Was he not? I think it was.

Speaker 5 (02:08:06):
Yeah, I think I'm.

Speaker 1 (02:08:08):
Gonna run for nickname. I'm gonna run for the governor.
I'm gonna run for the you know what. I think
you should do that I get to do the show.
You know that, No, you can't do both. I think
I could.

Speaker 2 (02:08:19):
How can you be on the road shaking hands and
kissing babies and do a four hour radio show and
the Rockets played for game. Yeah, you're gonna be like
Doug Gottlieb. You're gonna do a bad show and you're
gonna be a bad coach.

Speaker 1 (02:08:32):
Thanks.

Speaker 2 (02:08:32):
Ross Rogers seven ninety at one thirty seven, Roger, Good afternoon.

Speaker 8 (02:08:38):
Good afternoon, gentlemen. Yeah, I think the more depressing between
the Texans and As is the Texas because at least
give us we're in the goals of era hopefully doesn't end,
but you know, we're always you're not really down with
the ash shows. You know what, they're gonna They're gonna
keep you something good at least for the most part
of the season. But the Texans have always just been,

(02:09:00):
you know, trying to get there but just never can
And for whatever reason. You know, they did all the
bulls move. They got rid of Johnson and they got
Christen Kirk, and you know we're gonna we're in an
addition by some traction and blah blah blah blah blah.
Here they are again.

Speaker 7 (02:09:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (02:09:16):
So on a on a better topic of food topic,
did y'all go try some biscuits and jazz when you're
on Luke Jennys.

Speaker 5 (02:09:22):
No, we didn't leave.

Speaker 1 (02:09:23):
We went from our hotel to the We went to
Darryl's where we were going to biscuits and where I
forgot biscuits and jams. Yeah, Roger, let me tell you something.
On behalf of Ross and myself. We apologized. We had
free breakfast in our hotel and we were cheap. We
ate the free breakfast. We ate the free breakfast.

Speaker 8 (02:09:41):
No, it's all good. We're gonna go for our anniversary
next month. I'm just gonna live with the sports book closed.

Speaker 2 (02:09:46):
They closed it at one pm. I wouldn't make it now.
We did go to a Sheishi coffee place.

Speaker 12 (02:09:51):
What what I call it?

Speaker 1 (02:09:53):
She Shehi me feminine kind of coffee place?

Speaker 5 (02:09:56):
What does that mean?

Speaker 1 (02:09:57):
She is? That's my wife.

Speaker 8 (02:10:01):
Sophisticated always I got the Cougars and we got the Rockets.

Speaker 1 (02:10:07):
Old, yes we do. Happens You're home for Rockets basketball.
Thank you Rogers Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 2 (02:10:12):
Oi, Baby, let's go Rossie, Let's go hmm Okay, she
she has several meetings. Commonly refers to urine or urination
in Hawaiian Pidgin English.

Speaker 1 (02:10:23):
Okay, I'm gonna get rid of the word shishi. I'm
gonna go with bougie. Okay. This is a slang term
for effectively trendy or pretentious. I'll stay with SIHI. We
went to a sishi coffee place, did we?

Speaker 22 (02:10:37):
Not?

Speaker 1 (02:10:41):
For like Charles, for like Charles, not for Houston, for
like Charles. Ross It was a break It was like
a breakfast, breakfast and coffee place. Yeah, cafe. Yeah. I
didn't think it was too affectedly trendy or pretentious. For
late Charles. It was bougie okay, because I mean Lake Charles.
When you think of.

Speaker 2 (02:11:00):
In a place, it usually involves waffle house. Right, yes, Oh,
come on, even Lake Charles's know what like Charles is
all about? Is that what a Lake Charles? And I
don't know Charles are Call her buddy Jared, He'll tell
us isn't never a nieces that Charles Mac. Yes, yes,

(02:11:22):
I try to get my daughter play volleyball, or she
would not play.

Speaker 1 (02:11:25):
Whatever place you guys went to, it definitely was boogie
for it, Thank you very much. So he knows that's
a swamp, Oh my god. Yeah, see he knows. I
think it's a lovely town.

Speaker 2 (02:11:35):
I love like Charles, and I believe at birth the
hospitals they hand up necktats. I believe in sterilizing the
various equipment to clean the surgery rooms optional in Lake Charles,
everybody goes, got sodas on the floors, peanuts strange. No,

(02:11:57):
let me tell you, I love like Charles. I'm glad
like Charles is there. But as soon as Galveston Gainst Casinos, Charles,
there's no way.

Speaker 1 (02:12:03):
You're probably right again there. That place was packed Saturday
night at the at the Rollden Rugget packed. Yeah, high
limits the rooms were. I want to tell you that
four hundred, four hundred night.

Speaker 2 (02:12:23):
Woo, that place is packed. They're not there's Yeah. Telman's
just doing doing just fine. He's in Italy, still counting
the money from there.

Speaker 1 (02:12:33):
That's true. Let's go to James on seven out of
at one forty one.

Speaker 23 (02:12:35):
Hi James, Yeah, it's definitely the asters. The asters are
more heartbreaking because they were twenty games, about five hundred
and seven games in front, and they were on cruise control.
So yeah, that's what got me. I mean, you'vessed so
much time and you hope for the best, but it
is what it is, is what it is. The Texans

(02:12:56):
right can't.

Speaker 1 (02:12:57):
Thank you for the phone callball. We we got some
breaking news right now. How many two two? Especially for a.

Speaker 2 (02:13:10):
Niners fan Matt Jackson. I saw this and I was like, oh,
that's okay, go too. I mean it's big news.

Speaker 1 (02:13:17):
Nick Bosa defensive end for the Niners, toris acl after
the season. Man football, it's we're week three.

Speaker 2 (02:13:28):
We're week three and we're already seeing what was a
Jake Browning versus Carson wins.

Speaker 1 (02:13:33):
Nick Bosa is down.

Speaker 2 (02:13:34):
We wanted to talk with the story work. Derek singlely
got hurt. YEP, go ahead, all right, So those of
you that don't understand gambling, we'll dumb it down for
you really quick.

Speaker 22 (02:13:43):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (02:13:44):
You can bet on games. You can bet up teams
to win straight up.

Speaker 2 (02:13:47):
You can also get some points to help you called handicap, handicamping,
and bounce it out a little bit. Now you're gonna
pay for those points. So the Rams were a three
and a half point underdog. They were plus three point
so you add that to their skills. Yeah, it's very simple.
So if you want, if you think the Rams can win,
can stay within three. If they win the game, you
win the money. If they are if they lose by

(02:14:08):
two points, you win the money. They lose by three points,
lose by one point. I had three point five, three
point five. So to really dumb it down, when the
game kicks off, the score in your mind in terms
of gambling, it's the Rams three and a half for
the Eagle zero. Rams them out to this huge lead.
Eagles come all the way back twenty six to nine.

Speaker 5 (02:14:26):
They led.

Speaker 1 (02:14:28):
It was twenty seven twenty six. Correct.

Speaker 2 (02:14:31):
If I'm right on the score on this, yes, Rams
are driving. If they kicked the field goal and win it,
you win because the Rams just flat out won the
game outright. If the Rams kick the field goal and
miss it, you still win because you got.

Speaker 1 (02:14:50):
Three and a half points.

Speaker 2 (02:14:51):
So in your mind and in the betting ticket mind,
it was twenty nine and a half to twenty seven.
So really the only thing that could happen in order
for you to lose the get in your bet if
you were taking the Rams plus three and a half,
which I did, which Ross did and another person in
our group did m H was have the Eagles score

(02:15:14):
a touchdown.

Speaker 1 (02:15:16):
If you did not see the game.

Speaker 2 (02:15:17):
The final play of the game, Philadelphia blocked the field
goal and took it back for a touchdown. Eagles won.
Rams did not cover the three and a half they
were given. The Eagles covered the three and a half.

(02:15:37):
There's three seconds left on the clock when they kicked it.
There are things in sports called a bad beat. You
perhaps see Scott van Peltzi does bad beat that one.
That is one of the five worst bad beats I've
ever seen in my entire life of watching sports.

Speaker 1 (02:15:54):
All the Rams had to do was miss the kick
and you still won. Jordan David on down.

Speaker 2 (02:16:00):
If Jordan Davis would have ran on an east west
pattern and stop. But at three hundred and twenty five pounds,
He's like, I'm taking this sum bitch to the house,
and he did, and the game was over. The Rams
were the right side. They were dominating that game. Yes
they were until they didn't. Thanks for bringing it up,

(02:16:24):
but they were not all things about Bruce pearlhom I
had some points on that Rams game.

Speaker 4 (02:16:28):
You never know.

Speaker 2 (02:16:31):
Joe spot up with us tomorrow at twelve thirty, looking
forward to visiting with him. Gut feelings tomorrow and what
else we got going on tomorrow, Big recap in Detroit
versus Baltimore, Mondaynight football that uh menor we mentioned this earlier.
One week from today, Rockets Media Day will be at

(02:16:52):
the Tota Center Monday from ten o'clock until two, and
we will be there to do the four hour show
from there. Looking forward to that, hopefully going to get
well if you makes by, for sure, Kevin Durant, Hopefully
we'll be stopping by a couple of the players well,

be a lot of fun and that'll be all tomorrow.
Next Monday, from ten o'clock until two. Thursday, we are

(02:17:13):
at Big City Wings and just gonna be really kind
of a highly charged week on the show. How will
the Texans react to being zero and three? Tennessee's terrible
should win that first game and the Astros have six
winnable games ahead of them. I think if they go

(02:17:34):
five and one, they make the playoffs four and two
Little Dicey, if they go three and three, they're out.

Speaker 1 (02:17:41):
I don't think it's really worth arguing at this point,
five minutes up to go on the show, what should
we do? We should play Merrick Kus fastest growing sports
radio game show. We simply call it b leave it

Speaker 2 (02:20:07):
Bruce Pearl graduated from Boston College in nineteen eighty two,
where you also serve as the manager of the basketball team.

but they reconciled in twenty fourteen.

Speaker 1 (02:21:09):
Believe it or not not, that is also correct. He
went for the old reconciliation one. I don't know that
I was good. I ran out of time. You did,
run out of time, all right, that's it for the
radio program. Uh, sometimes you gotta vomit down the field, Matt.

Speaker 15 (02:21:25):
You did.

Speaker 1 (02:21:26):
You don't know what you did. You hailed married and
