Speaker 1 (00:02):
Lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show. I mean, it's
literally feast or famine. But there isn't a hard fought
loss in the mix. There isn't a give up two
and the ninth and rallying and come back. There isn't
a small, little midgy little two game win streak. There's
(00:22):
only a small, little two game losing streak. I mean,
this is the epitome of Alvarage.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Mediocrity at its finest, The Quintessen's Matt.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Of mediocrity, the quintestens Hayt's Ross.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
I'm Matt. We are with you today for a full
four hours.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
It's be nice to hang out with you guys today.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
We've got a lot to get to the day. On
the radio show, we will start off with the little
Astros chatter as the local nine do not win a
series against the Cardinals, dropping two out of three. Now,
since it is an off day today and they have
a three games series with the Podres, congratulations ross to
the Astros, who will win two or three against San
Diego starting tomorrow night. I hope so it'd be cool.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
How about this agon at Well.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
San Diego Padres are pretty good. How about a sweep.
Can you sweep somebody?
Speaker 3 (01:16):
Giants did? Well?
Speaker 2 (01:19):
You have to bring that up. But yeah, win some games.
Let's go with Ryan Gusto going, Hey, Friday, have we.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
Had a stupid nickname for Gusto yet? No, we haven't
thought of. Come on, now go with the Yeah, go
for the You don't live for Gustos? That would be.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Uh, he's blowing in the wind.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Excuse me?
Speaker 3 (01:43):
What? Okay, it's a Bob Dylan song. What are you
talking about. I'm not a Dyllan guy. Oh that's true,
you know?
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Oh please? You know everybody hates Bob Dylan except people.
Everyone hates Bob Dylan seventy five years old. People hate
Bob Dylan.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
I don't know. I I haven't gotten into his music,
so I don't really have a judgment on Bob Dylan.
Let me get let me give you a little sample.
There you go. It sounds like somebody's starting up a chainsaw.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Yeah, I would explain, probably Bob Dylan past age of thirty.
I would say Bob Dylan is the most overrated performer
in the history of me. Wow.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Oh yeah, I said it. Come at me, Bob Dylan fans, Well,
people disagree.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Oh, I'm sure they do. And Bruce Springsteen, You're not
far behind saying it now.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
Bruce Springsteen is way worse.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Ross Hall, the hell are you?
Speaker 3 (02:40):
I'm great? Like you're fighting the sniffles a little bit.
Speaker 5 (02:44):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
I got a little bit of a cold or some
allergies or possibly both, but we're making it through.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
I think I'm in the same spot. I think I
went from COVID to ALLERGIESUS. So I'm just a beauty
full of health at this point. But actually I feel
really good to look forward to hanging out with you tomorrow.
As long as we have a window separating ourselves, we
don't get it as other allergies or colds or whatever.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Yeah, we're gonna both do show the show with masks on.
It's gonna be.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
We know what we'll do. Bob Dylan. I don't think
we're going to Bob Dylan conversation this early in the show,
but we did. Yeah, that's what makes this show so good.
By the way, shout out to Steelers Wheel. I mean,
he's stuck in the middle with you. It is a
good one, but it's.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
Also kind of a Bob Dylan type of rip off.
The way they're taking it.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Yeah, I mean, Bob Dylan, look is a great songwriter.
I will give you that. Like a Rolling Stone is
still an outstanding song, and it's got a couple of
the ones.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
But they're largely speaking and he's inaudible.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
He really is.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
Okay, I'll take your word for it. I'll get it.
I'll do a book report for you on Bob Dylan
coming up in a couple of weeks.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Do kids even do book reports anymore?
Speaker 3 (03:52):
I feel like they have to know.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
Can't you just have chat GPT to it for you.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. That's why you gotta write
stuff now. I remember when I was.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
They were just starting up with these services to see
if people were plagiarizing stuff.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
Yeah, we were born in the golden age of age
of plagiarism. At least I was Matt. I was ripping
stuff off of the Internet and nobody was none the wiser. See,
we didn't have we didn't have the Internet.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
We had.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Oh there were books with yellow cliff notes.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Cliff notes. Yeah, and that was the best because if
you were given a book to read and you didn't
want to read it, you would just get to go
get the cliff Notes.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
Books and you can knock it out. But forty five minutes.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
The beauty was you could just get spark Notes online
and it was basically cliff Notes, but it was free online.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Yeah, I was. The spark Notes was basically my homepage.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
So my daughter, who is now part of obviously this generation,
wrote a paper and one of her teachers is about
a year ago, claimed that she was plagiarizing something, and
so she had to go prove that she didn't, and
Carly won the case. But it was again, you have
these teachers that are very hyper sensitive. Let's face it,
(05:02):
today's kid don't want to write papers.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
She was probably cheating.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
That's not nice, not nice at all. And if she
was listening right now with you letting because she doesn't
like you, she would expect an apology from you.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
I just mean, if she's anything like her father.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
Now that is accurate, actually accurate. I mean I did.
I mean, I can't lie to you. I mean I'd
lie to you about a lot of things, but that
wouldn't be one of them. All Right back to the
issues at hand. Um, So cam Smith had another air yesterday. Look,
I'm not doing a cam Smith air watch. It's just
(05:40):
it's gonna come with the trials and tribulations playing a
position he's played less than twenty five games in his
entire life. I mean, it is what it is, right,
I mean, I can't kill the kid. His bat's starting
to pick up a little bit, which I'm very excited about.
He's gonna go through some growing pains. And you ain't
the only one out there. I mean, you got a
lot of guys, a lot of inexperience the outfield right now.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
It is what it is. Growing pains are going to
be there, Matt.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
And the Astros offense at four hitch yesterday? Is that good? Well?
I mean is that their average?
Speaker 3 (06:16):
I guess it is about one run? Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
I don't check their ops and stuff usually because it's
one of the worst in baseball. Is either twenty ninth
or thirtieth.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
No, they've actually been.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
I'm hanging around twenty third recently after that fourteen inning explosion.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
See you said the term fourteen inning exploding.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
Sorry, fourteen run explosion.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Yeah, fourteen run explosion and we can go in fourteen
in for that to happen. Yeah, uh ol two days.
Ops has dropped considerably the last week or so h oh,
they're back down to twenty six in baseball.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
And can we wait for when's Christian Walker gonna wake up?
Speaker 1 (06:56):
I'd like to ask that question. Is that there?
Speaker 3 (06:59):
I'd like for it to have and soon it'd be nice.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
We had Brian Bogosvik on yesterday on the on Deck
Show Normal Wednesday guest. He said he thinks Christian Walker
is pressing. Man, I know how much you love bat
speed statistics. Oh oh, here we go stat cast?
Speaker 1 (07:15):
Sure, why not?
Speaker 2 (07:15):
He's down just a small tick from the last two years.
I don't know if that is just a small sample size,
if it's just an oblique lingering issue right, or age or.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Much ado about nothing.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Ooh boy, It's funny because I'm seeing this a little
bit on Twitter. Not that Twitter should be telling us
how we should feel about a person or a subject matter,
but it is just a small sample size of the society.
People are asking why there are any heat on Christian
Walker like there certainly was with jose A Bray. I
(07:55):
would say if it went back and looked at jose
A Bray, you April seventeenth, his first year with the Asteris,
which would have been what two years ago, right, m hmm.
I don't think there was heat on him at this point.
Like people are waiting for heat on Christian Walker. I
think the heat on a bra you came probably you know,
forty five sixty days into the season and he was
(08:15):
sitting there not batting half his weight. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
Remember didn't he get his first home run against the
A's and he like slid into first It was like
months into the season.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Yeah, I mean, it wasn't like he was eighty four.
He just was providing no pop. Honestly, I hate to
say this, but my gut tells me that maybe even
Walker start is worse than a bray. You start as
an astro.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
It is right now, first fifteen games, I'm pulling up Walker.
I mean, uh, Jose Brays twenty twenty three, he started
out hot and then he got super cold. Yeah, did
not hit his first home run into the fifty second
game of the year.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
It was against Oakland.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
And he's slid into home plate, yeah, or under.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
The May eighth.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
Now, Christian does at least of a home brown, But
it looks he's as pronounced U poorly swinging as a
break did. But look again, everything to me, and I
know you're gonna go all get mad at me. But
this is the truth. This is the sample sizes tills
too small. We're not even in a month in the season.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
Well, he needs to get better.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
And we talked about this man on the Crawford Box cast,
which you can find for free in the iHeartRadio.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
I did listen to that for a minute.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Gives myself and Chris Gordy, Uh yeah, I think to me,
the biggest uh, the biggest hitters I'm keeping my eye on.
The most, I should say, are Christian Walker and Thenarty is.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Yeah, your heart of the order has got an ops
of let's go. I mean, come on, I just looked
at it and I turned it off immediately. I wouldn't
even bother all Right.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
Radio show today Brian McTaggart eleven o'clock, Shut your bumb
ass up at.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Eleven thirty, the News at noon, we're pushing.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
I just don't get it too twelve thirty today because
we've got shut shoe at eleven thirty. He made docus
gonna be with us at one o'clock today. Wow, Yeah,
this is a show. And then we've got to believe
it or not. Today leek horso he announces he's going
to retire after the week one episode of Game Day
this fall. M ninety years young, well overdue, very very
(10:19):
entertaining in his prime. Frankly, ESPN did him no favors
of the last decade by putting him out there. So
I don't know if his doctors told him he can't
do anymore, Lee Corso said it to himself, Kirk herb Street.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
I don't know, but they have like an intervention with him.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
No, I'm no, I'm sure they were having to scoop
him up and pick him up and put him on
a plane and go something.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
And he started grabbing the brutus Buckeye had you like
put that down, Lee, You're not going to a house
at every week. Let's relax. He's looking for ug everywhere.
Where's soccer? Where's Sucker? All right?
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Ten fourteen on the bat top of his show with

If you want to get with us today seven one

speak today or yesterday? We have to have a debate
about Ross whether we even play a SoundBite of it,
because I just have some theories behind that also no one,
I should say, no one, very few people think the
(11:16):
Rockets are going to beat the Warriors. We'll get to that.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
And who had the worst week for a Nico the
quarterback or the general manager of the Dallas Mavericks. A
lot to get to today between now and two o'clock
seven one three two one two five seven hundred ten
twenty Sports Talking at ten twenty one on Sports Talk seven,
honety Man and Ross with you here on this Thursday
(11:40):
seven one three two one two five seven nine zero
seven one three two one two five seven ninety If
you want to visit with us on Twitter, you may
do that as well at Sports MT and at Sports RVY.
A lot of different moving elements on the show today, uh,
and we will get to that, including the Rockets. I
(12:00):
wouldn't say perceive lack of respect. I think it's more
of if you've been there, done that, people are gonna
believe you. In Golden State has been there and done that,
and the Rockets have not. But there is an overwhelming
sentiment that Vegas is gonna be right about this Rockets
Warriors playoff series. All right, Yesterday, Rossie, when we went
(12:21):
off the air, because at an Astro's day game and
you were recording the very successful Crawford box cast. Casario
spoke for forty minutes, wow, forty minutes, and I was
on my computer and I went to the Texans website
to listen to some of it, and how do I
(12:43):
put this delicately? It was horrifically bad. And it's not
his fault, per se. I know that we thirst in
media for access and availability from our coaches, our play
our general managers, our owners, and every team has to
(13:06):
have this kind of pre draft availability by the team.
And Ross's I talk about this. Pull up just a
Randall cut. You let me know when you have it ready.
I don't really care what if it's about, it doesn't
even matter, but just pull one out point being is this.
It was forty minutes or forty five minutes of complete
(13:27):
and utter rambling about absolutely nothing that you got no
real insight, and then you have you'll have your fake
Texans homer media say well, you didn't dig deep into
the comments. Yeah I did. I've been around a long
damn time, and I would say this about Dania Brown,
I would say this about Raphael Stone the night before
(13:47):
a draft. They don't want to give you anything. They
don't want to tip their hand, and if anything, if
they do give you something, you go oh, would have
dow on that. It's because they're probably the line to
probably chaate put take you off the scent, so U
(14:09):
under the category rossup, I just don't get it, which.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
We'll have coming up at twelve thirty.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
Okay, I understand why you have to do it, and
it's the right thing to do. When I'm glad the
league does it is compared to say we don't let
our our front office people meet with you. They're in't
a damn thing you're gonna learn about yesterday. Nothing.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
Okay, Well, here's Nick Casario on players available at number
twenty five.
Speaker 6 (14:30):
If we pick at twenty five, we're gonna get a
good football player. I mean, honestly, we feel good about
this draft. I mean there's players let me throw out
the draft, so we're pretty well positioned. Well have an opportunity,
we think throughout the draft to add players that we
think are gonna create some competition on this football team.
I'd say, whoever we bring in, I mean, it's gonna
be hard to make this football team. We feel good
about the players. I mean, our board is probably smaller
than some other boards, and that's okay. But there'll be
(14:52):
players that pick on Thursday. There's gonna be players to
pick on Friday. Honestly, there's gonna be players for us
to pick on Saturday that we actually feel good about.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
We're gonna get a good player.
Speaker 6 (14:59):
If we pick a twenty five, and if we don't
pick it twenty five, then wherever we pick next or
whenever we do pick, we think we're gonna get a
pretty good player.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
Good player at twenty five. Unless they trade down.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
It feels like you're trading up.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
Feels like he was hinting more to trade down than
a trade up. Though. Man ah see, you're not reading
between the lines.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
Man, You know what, Shame on me for not reading
between the lines. Let's cuss and discuss. You should dick
the Seria trade twenty five?
Speaker 3 (15:34):
Maybe?
Speaker 1 (15:36):
Oh did he did he take us off the scent?
Or is he giving us something we can do a
four hour YouTube show about.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
Hmmm, hmm, Okay, here you go, Matts once and more. Duh,
Nick Cassario and drafting need over talent.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
Oh, we never drafted need around here.
Speaker 6 (15:57):
I mean, we're never going to So we're gonna pick
the best player that we feel fits our program, regardless
of the position. I'd say other than a quarterback. I
mean i'd say pretty much, any positions on a table.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
Everything's on the table. Here's what I want you to do,
ross I want you to save these clips and put
them in a secret files, play them a year after year.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
And then next year we're gonna play did he say
this this year or last year? Play that last cut again?
Speaker 6 (16:28):
Okay, we never drafted for need around here, I mean
we're never going to. So we're gonna pick the best
player that we feel fits our program, regardless of the position.
I'd say other than a quarterback. I mean, i'd say
pretty much, any positions on a table.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
So, Rossie, he says he's not going to draft for need,
What exactly do you do a draft for?
Speaker 3 (16:47):
Then?
Speaker 1 (16:48):
Personality?
Speaker 3 (16:50):
For the best player available? Like you said, what do
you mean?
Speaker 1 (16:53):
What do you mean you don't draft for What the
hell does that mean? You don't draft for a need? Well,
of course you need people. You don't take a draft
just because you're trying to add to the population of Houston, Texas.
They're gonna stay true to the board. Matt all right,
Rick Smith, I hear you what Now, you're just trying
to agitate me, and it's worth listen.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
I'm not trying to agitate.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
This is whatevery.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
GM says they're not gonna draft for need. They're gonna
go ahead and go and get the best player available. Now,
of course they lie to an extent.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
So if you don't draft for need.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
So so that's the case, then just start picking a
bunch of kickers, keep your payroll down.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
Well, you don't normally draft kickers, Matt, so they're not
gonna do that.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
Oh my god, you're missing my point. Of course, you
draft forded. Everybody needs things. You need to stockball positions,
you need to add depth.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
Yeah, but what position would they draft outside of quarterback?
As he said, you would be completely shocked if they
took in the first round. I mean maybe pass rusher?
Speaker 1 (17:49):
Uh yeah, probably how about are you know? But he doesn't.
They don't need anybody, so you know what, go throw
people off.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
First off, ascent, let's go with a punter. Nobody's drafting
a punter in the first round. Oh, come on, it'll help.
This isn't in the nineteen sixties.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
And there's some Sebastian janet Kowski field goal kicker available.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
Yeah, he was in the first round.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
Oh my god, I just I just I think it's
it was comical. And again it's not Nick's fault, per se. Now,
Nick's never going to be very glob to begin with.
But this is the this is the kind of wheelhouse
press conference. He It's like, Nick, can you speak to
the media about this? Do I have to do? I
have to talk about this signing of that time? But
this trade? Hey, Nick, the NFL is going to make
(18:36):
you go up there and do a pre draft am
media availability and can you just use your best word salid, Yes,
can't wait. Let's get up there and do it.
Speaker 3 (18:45):
Matter of fact, he probably has another availability today, does he?
Speaker 1 (18:51):
No, he doesn't. I was kidding.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
That won't be there. Well, at least you went yesterday. No,
I didn't. Very busy.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
Okay, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
I just general managers.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
This is their time to just go up there and
just throw a bunch of spitballs, right, is that what
you throw? I guess.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
I mean, yeah, he's not going to give anything away.
He's even more boring than most and he's just gonna
kind of stick to his gm isms and.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
It worked, and that will be and the question speech.
We play some more Casarra soundbites between now and two
o'clock today. If you like the interest of keeping people
interested in this radio show.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
We gotta ask him about the offensive line. He's got
answers on that. Well, I don't know how deep the
answer is.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
All right, well, here's what we'll do. We'll do it.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
We'll come back when we come back.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
When we come back, you will hear how concerned he
is about the offensive line. Let me guess it's ross.
Is he somewhat concerned, very concerned, or not concerned at all.
We'll have the answer for you momentary. All right, to
wrap up the Cacero conversation, we're gonna get back to
the astros here. How's it feel about the offensive line?
Speaker 3 (20:09):
Sports?
Speaker 6 (20:09):
Every I mean, honestly, it's the same every year.
Speaker 3 (20:13):
Every year is different.
Speaker 6 (20:14):
We didn't go into the offseason and say, Okay, here
are the things that we're gonna do. I think some
of this is you always have to be adaptable. You
have to be flexible and just take the information in
and then just make the decisions that you feel our
best for the football team, which is what we did.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
You know, if we.
Speaker 6 (20:29):
Didn't make any changes, if we had to go into
the season with the group that we had, we would
have done that.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
But that's not wasn't the case.
Speaker 6 (20:35):
I'd say each case was a little bit different, Each
situation was a little bit different. Yeah, I wouldn't say
there was anything specific that we said, well, this is
what we're gonna do, this is what we need to do,
and then even moving forward, or we're going to add
some players that potentially think can help our football team.
That's always a goal. Drafts no different than free agency
than it is any training camp process. You know, we
lost some players or moved on from some players at
(20:57):
a lot of different positions. We've added some players other positions,
including the offensive line. So you know, once the players
are here, once we have an opportunity got on the field,
we'll kind of see how it all fits together.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
Okay, there we go, Shure brilliant.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
Oh huh, unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
I give him credit, I really do. Do you think
he has like a stop watch in his left hand?
He's like, all right, if I just go for fifty seconds,
no matter what I say, at some point, people will
just tune me out.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
I think that's what he figures.
Speaker 1 (21:33):
Maybe that's how this show goes. If I just talk
for long enough, will people either stay with her?
Speaker 3 (21:37):
No, not this show. Oh man, look you imagine him
getting in an argument with his wife.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
Oh my god. She's just like yeah, because he doesn't
raise his voice. He's just gonna continue to just talk
and talk and talk. She's like, all right, I'll do
the dishes. Oh, I know, Hey, honey, why don't we
change things up. Let's put some salt and pepper on
our chicken breasts and broccoli.
Speaker 3 (22:07):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
He doesn't do that, and then it becomes an hour
of you know, salt's not good for you.
Speaker 3 (22:12):
The other thing about that is you got a number
of different toxins and various sourcings of the sodium pressure. Okay, fine,
and studies have shown long term damage arterial damage is possible.
I mean, you could have congestive heart failure other resultant
issues from that. So at the end of the day,
that's not really something that I want to do, and
(22:35):
we're just going to move forward on that. And the
decision has been made.
Speaker 1 (22:38):
I mean, the thought is we may we maybe put
some lemon juice on it, but maybe we don't, but
then if we do, we have to. Okay, got the lemon,
do we use the rind, we use the juice to
we work with the seeds. I mean he's going to
beat you up by just out talking you, and there's
gotta be some credit to that, correct, I mean, there's
gotta be that's an art, the art of bsing or
(23:04):
just it. No, I think I don't think it's bs
I think he's it's because in some ways he believes
what he says. But it's just word solid, it's just
less just I mean, that's how you win a negotiation
like I like Jalen Peatrie probably wanted forty one million
dollars at a day Ross only got thirty nine.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
I think Jalen Petri is just fine. He might he might,
by the way, for a nickelback.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
Did he get paid? I mean he instantly both got paid.
I mean that that that Texas secondary is but very
well compensated for the next couple of years at least
mm hmm. But do you think Jalen Pecher's like me
and I must get forty one point five million dollars
I'm leaving.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
Okay, you win, not thirty nine done. I'm good, I'm out.
He just gives up, Drew Rosanez just gives up, or
whoever's healing is?
Speaker 1 (23:56):
I mean, we love our guy.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
Could you imagined Jerrod versus Cassio would be a showdown
for the ages in a talk show? Would either want
of them get a chance to speak?
Speaker 2 (24:08):
The showould be over in five seconds? I mean they
run through every break. Yeah, crazy, absolutely crazy. You don't
have to prep anything for that show.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
Nope, you just go up there and just talk, all right?
Uh seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven unti Astros
of an off day. Brian mctagger to join us coming
up in about to twenty minutes here on the Mat
Thomas Show with Ross. Let's talk to uh j W
on seven hunty JW. Good morning.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
Oh you guys doing good.
Speaker 7 (24:40):
I hope you're going to.
Speaker 1 (24:40):
Have a good age you too.
Speaker 8 (24:43):
Is there any rumor, I'll put it this way, I
hear the rumor that the Astros are going after this,
say young when you're out of Miami? Is that threem?
Speaker 1 (24:58):
I have not heard of any rumors about any pictures,
especially You're not gonna hear.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
Much in the middle of April. Yeah, where did you
hear that from?
Speaker 8 (25:07):
Ask on, Wow, that guy by the name of Miller.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
Oh, Matt is it Matt Miller?
Speaker 7 (25:14):
Maybe yes, her believe so hm hmm.
Speaker 1 (25:20):
Yeah I have I have not. I have not heard
of the you're talking about. You're talking about Alcon Tara, Yes, yeah, okay,
I have not looked at his numbers this year so far. Hmm.
That's yeah. Thanks JW for.
Speaker 3 (25:36):
The phone call. Appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
So like you're in a boat. He's a point blank
where's point blank ross? We know where that is.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
I have no idea. That sounds quite frankly, sounds made up.
It's a movie in it. It could be.
Speaker 1 (25:48):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
Oh, maybe that's point break. I have not seen the
astros linked to Ascendi. I mean not recently. I think
maybe a year ago. I'm looking right here at Yahoo.
I just happened to do it.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
Let's see. Yeah, it sounds like to me three starts
from returning from Tommy John surgery. Looks like he's completely back,
He's under control.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
This is another one of those aggregate ridiculous things. Bleacher
reports Kelly Miller listed Marlin's picture as a potential trade target.
This is Yeah, this is where something gets aggregated and
then there's a misleading headline. Newsweek is doing it, Sports
Illustrated is doing it, All these other things are doing it,
(26:42):
and then people this is the most Like, We've been
getting three four calls in the last few months about
these fake bait headlines. So, yeah, somebody listed, somebody did
an article basically who could Sandy el contur go to
if he's gonna get traded? And one team lists, you know,
they list of the Astros as a possible team.
Speaker 1 (27:02):
Right.
Speaker 2 (27:02):
Then somebody else runs with the headline says Astros listed
as trade partner with Marlins.
Speaker 9 (27:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
Will Salmon writes for the Athletics.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
Has no decision has been made yet by the Marlins,
he says, quote, the Miami Marlins have not decided on Arcantara.
Speaker 3 (27:19):
Is that how do you pronounce it again? Algandra?
Speaker 1 (27:25):
He had the Marlins view their current pitching improvements optimistically.
Aren't ruling on a midseason push. By the way, is
professional baseball in Florida should just be extinct? Basically? Did
you see the photo in the Marlins the other day?
They had seventy five hundred people at their game that
many huh in Miami.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
And they're not bad this year.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
Apparently the Marlins aren't and it's a beautiful day. They're
playing decent baseball. Matter of fact, I'm looking at the
Marlin standings right now. They are eight to nine, which
is they're two and a half out. The Mets aren't
crushing in the National League East. And they had seventy
five hundred people. And that's a nice stadium too. If
you ever flowing to Miami Airport, it's very close to
(28:10):
Miami's airport. Beautiful facility.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
I'll take your word for it. We always have to
go to Fort Lauderdale. That's fine, it's it's cheaper Fort Ardella's.
We're on a budget, we are budgeted.
Speaker 3 (28:23):
Naturally, we flew to Miami, that had drive to West
Palm from there, that'd be quite a haul. Rossie, Oh,
I feel like it could happen.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
We'd definitely be on that turnpike going about one hundred
miles an hour.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
So yeah, this is floated by somebody in an article
where they're just listing teams in trades.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
This is not real news.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
This is you know, unfortunately autough people are faking getting
faked out by this type of stuff. So I would
just say, when you see stuff like this, try to
vet it out, folks.
Speaker 1 (28:51):
Yeah, by the way of getting movies in gross point
blank is the name of the movie. Apparently it was
out nineteen ninety seven. Oh okay, Uh starring want to
use accusact John Cusack is in it?
Speaker 3 (29:06):
Dan ackwordy Mini Driver. Oh wow, must have been amazing.
Speaker 1 (29:10):
Uh seven point three out of ten according to IMDb.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
Oh that's pretty good. There's many Driver doing these days.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
I know, Uh, what do you put on your list?
Speaker 2 (29:22):
I mean I was a fan of her and Goodwie
hunting sneaky, right, what's sneaky about it?
Speaker 1 (29:29):
I'm just saying, you know what I mean, not her
acting ability? Yeah, yeah, many I don't. I'm promenade driver.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
Oh yeah, I'm gonna say something crazy. She's attractive, She's not.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
Crazy, not crazy, all right. Joelton Joe's Sports show says,
we are going to trust the process. We might trade up,
we might trade back. We got our eye on some
talented address our needs. So yeah, there's many different directions
we can go about cover. Yes, it will, that's exactly
what it is. That's what it is, all right. Seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven to
(30:04):
one three two one two five seven ninety It is
the Matt Thomas Show with Ross. Brian McTaggart will join
us here in about fifteen minutes here on Sports ten
forty eight. Brian mctagger's going to join us in just
a couple of minutes seven one three two one two
five seven ninety We will get to some serious astrosk conversation. Uh, Rossie,
(30:27):
this is a bigger issue that I want to bring up,
but I just want to localize a little bit of
the Houston side. The Cougars announced yesterday, my beloved Cougars
that Jojo Tuckler's coming back next year. He is there talent,
the big Ford and UH defensive player of the year.
Speaker 3 (30:43):
Blah blah blah.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
I mean he's done.
Speaker 3 (30:44):
He's excellent.
Speaker 1 (30:44):
I mean from his improvement from his freshman to sophomore
year was amazing.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
So you of h uh sends out a.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
Tweet yesterday probably around this time, and since we have
a major announcement coming up at three o'clock today, and
I'm like, oh, this is gonna be the big news.
Maybe we're playing somebody cool or we're opening up the
season with a big devil header on a cruise ship
or I don't know, something goofy, and the announcement was
(31:17):
JoJo's coming back, and it just kind of just dawned
on me that the world of collegiate sports certainly has changed,
because no one had ever heard that he was contemplating
going to the NBA draft.
Speaker 3 (31:34):
I mean, there may have been some.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
Rumors in some innu window on the among the real,
real diehard Cougar fans, and most draft boards had him
as a late second round draft pick or not being
drafted at all. He doesn't have the offensive skills to
play right now in the NBA. He has the defensive
skills for sure, but he doesn't have the offensive skills.
Speaker 3 (31:54):
I was also disappointed to hear he fouled out of
the press conference.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
Oh God, that felt real personal right there. I mean,
a good line by you, but that's still terrible for you.
Speaker 3 (32:04):
To say that. I couldn't help myself.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
So it made me think of two things. One, JoJo's
getting a bump in his nil.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
That's what it's basically the announcement of him signing a
one year deal, right, isn't that basically what it is.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
And I'm thinking myself, is this what we're doing now,
is we're going these kids are signing to go to
these schools and get these scholarships and ultimately nil. And
then when someone stays we're supposed to celebrate it. I
was a little I wouldn't say bothered, but it just
(32:43):
kind of struck me as not funny, but just it
was just weird that you would have the you know,
the eyes emoji, big news coming from you, of ah,
and then at three o'clock andone's sitting there by the
computers are looking to see what social media is saying,
Jojo Tuggler's coming back. Well, he was supposed to. That's
(33:03):
what the scholarship's about. He didn't say. He wasn't deciding
whether he was gonna stay or not, and he wasn't
thinking about it. Was like they must have put enough
money in this piggy bank, or Kelvin said, hey man,
you go to the NBA Draft, You're gonna have a
very disappointing night. Just yet, it's just the latest form
of this. Ain't your college sports that you watch up
(33:26):
growing as a kid. It is just completely five thousand
changing that it used to the way it used to be.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
Yeah, he got the reup. He's re upped his deal.
That's what they're That's what they're announcing.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
Isn't that weird though, that you I mean if because
if you if you come back year, like when uh
players play four years, you don't wait for the obligatory
he's coming back. You just assumed he's coming back.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Right, unless somebody's declaring for unless somebody's like supposed to
be a lottery pick.
Speaker 1 (33:59):
Right like my hello, Suzanne made an announcement that he
is going to declare for the draft. I don't believe
he's gonna sign with an agent because he wants to
see what his value is before he comes, you know,
whether he decides to go to the draft to come back,
and that's a news item to just tell me he's
coming back when you have When Jojo didn't say like, hey, everybody,
I need to I'm gonna I've been thinking about this
(34:20):
for a while, I don't know, but I was like, hey, wait,
so we took care of him.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
We took care of him. What's good. He's staying in
the building.
Speaker 1 (34:31):
I mean, yeah, I'll take his twelve rebounds per game
without an issue. Get the shooting percentage up a little bit,
maybe that foul triple down a little bit, and it
won't be really in a good spot.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
Fifty three point eight percent free throws, five point five
rebounds six I mean sorry, five point five point six
rebounds a game. Fifty three percent free throws, an announcement
that he's returning.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
Yes, you do.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
Gotta love that he's an adult that goes by Jojo. Well,
it's Joseph has grown up. I think he just goes by.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
You know, if my name was Joseph, what should we
call Joseph d'Arte Jojo d'Arte?
Speaker 3 (35:09):
I think you should. I just feel like nobody does
that anymore, unless you're like a baseball player in the
nineteen thirties.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
Really, okay, I got you, I got you? So which
Nico is having the worst week?
Speaker 3 (35:23):
ROSSI go ahead? Former Tennessee quarterback.
Speaker 1 (35:26):
Or Nico Harrison who had a press well in him
press conference? It was not. It was a press availability
where the Mavericks general manager invites some members of the
Dallas media, not all of them, and he tells them
you can come in and hang out with me, and
you can take all the notes you want. But then
we know audio or video recording of anything.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
I say, and then he gets basically undressed by Tim McMahon.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
Yes, apparently, And now that more things are coming out
about this meeting they had a couple of days ago.
It got quite contentious on a couple of differ in
a vacation.
Speaker 7 (36:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
I bet well, Tim McMahon's probably pissed. He spent all
this time researching and writing this this Luca Doneons book.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
He wrote that book, and he's doing like the press
tour for his book. And then if they announced that
he's traded.
Speaker 1 (36:13):
Yeah, yeah, who's who's exactly buying the Dallas Maverick version
of Luca Dodge.
Speaker 3 (36:18):
Yeah, I mean that's kind of hurt sales, folks.
Speaker 1 (36:23):
I mean, think about it. He's probably working on that
bad boy for years.
Speaker 2 (36:26):
ROSSI, That's what I'm saying, Like, look, Maverick fans are
holding grudge like Tim McMahon's holding the probably the biggest grudge.
Speaker 3 (36:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (36:33):
It's funny. I saw Tim about a month ago and
he came home and apologize because men, I didn't return
your Texas said, I know. I said, I could have
sold you some books, and he's like, yeah, I couldn't
use your help.
Speaker 3 (36:44):
Poor guy.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
What's another bad example that would be Oh, uh.
Speaker 3 (36:50):
I don't know Bregman through and through a Houstonian.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
Bregman astro for life, the Alex Bregman story.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
Eric Cole only had eyes for Houston.
Speaker 3 (37:02):
Oh poor guy. Yeah, I mean you blood, sweat and
tears your life.
Speaker 1 (37:11):
And you're right. And I don't know mc man's written
a book ever before, but because I mean there so
you had to go through his history as a kid
or something. Look, yeah, I mean and by the way, Dirt,
you noticed that Dirt n Novitzky has gotten sideways with
the Dallas Mavericks organization. Yes, I mean, what more can
Nico Harrison do to piss off an entire section of
(37:34):
the of a fan base? I mean, is there anybody
that's a Maverick fans like?
Speaker 4 (37:38):
Man?
Speaker 1 (37:39):
I like the direction Nico Harrison has take.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
On our team. Yeah, that's that's the funny. Yeah, you know,
there's always at least some split, Matt. We've seen some
people back Data Brown, some don't, Joe Spotted, some don't.
Is anybody backing Nico Harrison anyone? It's crazy speaking of
a data Uh. He spoke to Shawn Salisborough play some
of that for you in the next hour of the show.
(38:02):
But we're going to get right on the beat next
and we'll do that with our friend Brian McTaggart of
the Houston Astros website and MLB dot Com.
Speaker 1 (38:11):
He'll join us after Ross tells you how you can
help with your taxi. He's one of our favorite parts
the week. We get to spend ten quality minutes with
the established, well beloved.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
Beat writer for the Astros.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
MLB dot COM's Brian McTaggart. Brian, first and foremost, you
have gone to Saint Louis a lot in your life
covering the Astros, especially when they are in the National League.
It was like clinically depressing watching Cardinal Baseball there there.
I know yesterday with the crowd was pretty good, but
what the hell has happened in Saint Louis? That used
to be like an automatic forty thousand they're building every time.
Speaker 10 (38:45):
Yeah, I mean, I've never seen the stadium as empty
as it was. And I actually asked that question to
one of their beat writers and he said, you know,
opening day it was it was magical. They had, you know,
the Clydesdales and that whole thing, and then beginning with
the second game of the season, the fans have just
checked out.
Speaker 3 (39:00):
I mean, they really didn't make any.
Speaker 10 (39:03):
Upgrades in the offseason other than signing Phil Maton, and
you know, they weren't a good team last year, don't
look like they're gonna be a good team this year.
Speaker 3 (39:10):
So I think the fans have just checked out.
Speaker 10 (39:12):
It was it was sort of a depressing three days.
Usually you go to go to Saint Louis and it's
you know, it's this baseball like it's supposed to be,
but not this time.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
All right, we looked at the graphic onto Twitter and
a lot of people are doing this as well.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
I have.
Speaker 1 (39:29):
And look, everybody goes through a stretch where you're winning
and paying five hundred baseball. But even when you play
five hundred baseball, Brian, you maybe win three in a
row or drop four in a row, or win to
this continued streak of uptown up down.
Speaker 3 (39:44):
It is legendary right now for.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
The local nine.
Speaker 10 (39:48):
Yeah, I think somebody said, I'd have to confirm that
it's the longest streak and Astros history where they haven't
won two consecutive games or lost two consecutive games. So
I guess that's the definition of media awkwardy when you're
just when you're going win loss, win loss. So you know,
they're eight and ten, it feels like their record should
be a little bit worse, I think, just with the
(40:08):
way they've played, especially on offense. But they've pitched the
ball pretty well, and that's sort of why they're at
where there are because right now their offense is u
is really tough to watch because you've got guys in
the middle of the lineup who just aren't producing, and
they need to get it turned around quickly because the
schedule's getting really tough here with the Padres coming in
and then the Blue Jays they got to go to
(40:30):
Kansas City, so this is not an easy stretch for them,
and then they got to figure out a way to
start stacking up a couple of wins in a row,
which they haven't been able to do yet.
Speaker 1 (40:39):
Any hints from your perspective about maybe a little bit
of a lineup change, because right now Walker Slash Diaz
is providing you just about nothing in that four or
five spot.
Speaker 10 (40:51):
Yeah, And after the game yesterday, Joe Espotta was asked
about any possible changes to the lineup and he said
he seemed to dedicate that wasn't going to be the
case at least, you know, anytime soon. You know, he said,
all nine of these guys have to come up and
hit at some point, no matter the order.
Speaker 3 (41:07):
And I get what he's saying.
Speaker 10 (41:09):
I mean, I mean, you can move Walker and DS
to other points in the order, and you know they're
still going to have to hit for this lineup to
work and click and be successful. And I still think
they will. I mean, Janner Diaz didn't forget to hit
in the off season. Christian Walker is a guy who's
you know, hits thirty home runs every year, So you know,
(41:31):
not sure what's going on with those guys. I know
that Christian Walker looks increasingly frustrated by the day, But
it is only eighteen games. They got a long way
to go. They got to get this thing turned around,
and I think they will, just because the track record
of those guys and they can't really get much worse
at this point.
Speaker 2 (41:48):
Brian McTaggart with us here on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Let's just go to Cam Smith, eighteen games into his
major league career, both in the field and at the plate.
Speaker 3 (42:00):
How are you feeling about the way. He's looking.
Speaker 10 (42:04):
Well better in the field than have to play it.
I mean, he looks a little more natural and right
field with every game. I mean, I thought he had
a pretty good defensive three days at Saint Louis. He
looked pretty fluid down there, ran one ball down. His
throws have been pretty good. I think he's going to
be fine out there, you know. Offensively, I think he's
still trying to figure it out. I mean, you got
to remember, this is a guy who played five games
(42:25):
above Class A ball prior to this year, and now
all of a sudden you're in the big leagues, facing
the Mets on opening Day. That is not easy, and
so there's going to be some growing pains. Did not
have a did not have a good series against Saint Louis.
But you know, again, they got to get him going
a little bit as well. You know, he's he's still
got a runway here to try to figure this thing out.
(42:45):
He does seem to take walks from time to time.
He doesn't look overwhelmed at the plate, but the results
haven't been there. So I think that's something they're gonna
have to watch here closely. In the next couple of
weeks is just to see where he's at and then
decide whether they want to keep running them out there
or or or send him the Triple A and and
get some momentum and get some more bats under his
belt where he gets some some confidence and maybe bring
(43:06):
him back up.
Speaker 2 (43:07):
Uh back to Christian Walker real quick. Uh, just if
you had to guess, do you think there is any
sort of lingering issue with the oblique that could be
hampering them that he could be playing through or do
you think most of his problems are just mental and
some bad luck.
Speaker 10 (43:23):
Yeah, I don't think the obliques is an issue because
he's still you know, still taking uh sticking his hacks
and taking his swings. If there was pain there, especially
with his history, I mean I think he was shut
it down. You know, he's they're they're pitching him to
the point where he's chasing a little bit more than
he normally does. And I think he's getting frustrated. And
when you start pressing, you start chasing pictures off the
(43:45):
plate a little bit more. And I think Pictures are
realizing that, and they're they're pitching him to try to
get himself out, and he's doing that so far. But
you know, that's just the adjustments he's gonna have to make.
He's been in this league a long time. I don't
know if he's ever been through a stretch this poorly.
But when you join a new team, there's a lot
of pressure on you. When you're especially when you're making
that kind of money and you're hitting in the forehole,
(44:06):
there's a lot of pressure on you to produce. And
the longer you don't, I think all that builds. So
how's he going to handle that? How's he gonna respond?
You know, he's got a chance Friday to, you know,
get a couple of hits, have a good series, and
then he'll be on on the right track. But he
hasn't been able to do that so far.
Speaker 1 (44:22):
Brian mctaggard MLB dot Com with us here every Thursday
on the Matt Thomas Show with Ross Tax. There's one
player that equals the mark of the team. It might
be from Bervaldez. One night, you were ready to go,
all right, Astros, let's get into a deep conversation about extension.
The next nine is look forward to seeing where you're
(44:42):
pitching twenty twenty six.
Speaker 3 (44:45):
He is literally just like the squad right now.
Speaker 10 (44:49):
Yeah, he's he's an enigma. I think the team right
now is enigma. When friend Fromber's on, he's he's the
best there is. He's got one of the best curveballs
there is game. But he just tends to lose it
at times. And you know, we've seen that this year.
He's got a couple of good starts, a couple of
not so good and you know, again the second half
(45:11):
last year, he was piling up those good starts. And
when he does that, you know he's he's one of
the top two or three left handed pitchers in the game.
Speaker 3 (45:17):
And so.
Speaker 10 (45:19):
It's gonna be really interesting to see what they do
with him if this season progresses and they they're not
contending in the the the division, which I don't think
is gonna happen. The division is not that strong. I
think they will play better. Do they consider trading him
because I don't think they're gonna resign him. I don't
think they should resign him. Uh, you know, let someone
else pay him, you know, the money. But that's something
(45:41):
they're gonna have to entertain. And I just don't think
they'll get to the point where they're so far out
they're gonna trade him because if they're gonna.
Speaker 3 (45:47):
Contend, they'll need him.
Speaker 10 (45:48):
But uh, they're gonna need the good frobber and not
the one that you know we've seen on and off.
Speaker 3 (45:53):
But you're right, he's he's sort of like the team now.
You just you don't know what they're gonna get from
day to day.
Speaker 1 (45:58):
What do we know about the health status and latest
on both Forrest Whitley and Lance mccollors.
Speaker 10 (46:07):
Yeah, Lance is throwing Saturday for Corpus Christine. I think
what could be his final rehab start there in Midland,
So I hope he likes likes spending a night or
two in Midland. Nice place, I hear, but I think
that'll be his last one, and at that point, I
think they're going to consider activating him and Dana Brown,
I think said last week maybe when they go to
(46:27):
Kansas City next weekend, he could be back by then
in the rotation. So that's gonna be a big storyline.
Whitley through back to back games, I don't know if
I don't know if the second one was today or yesterday,
but he's really close to being activated. I think he's
a little ahead of Kayleb wort who's going to be
activated soon too. So I think we're about to see
a couple of new relievers in the bullpen with Whitley
(46:50):
in order. I think we'll see them both up here
within the next couple of weeks, I mean, within the
next few days, and then probably Lance within the next
week or so.
Speaker 1 (46:58):
Get your crystal ball off form on Lance. If everything
works out well, and like I said, you know, he
must be really ready to go. If he's gonna go
to middle in the pitch a baseball game, what do
you think ultimately he will look like, forgeting about performance,
but just about length and pitch count and whatnot.
Speaker 3 (47:14):
What do you think could be his forecast for the
next thirty.
Speaker 10 (47:17):
Days now, I think he's gonna get up to the
goals to get up to seventy five eighty pitches in
this start on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (47:24):
So you're looking at a guy if he makes his
first start.
Speaker 10 (47:27):
For the Astros, you know, could do eighty ninety pitches
by four or five innings. I don't think I'm gonna
see him go out there going seven eight innings, but.
Speaker 3 (47:36):
It's gonna be interesting to see because his numbers have
been pretty good and his rehab starts.
Speaker 10 (47:41):
I mean, his vlow was down quite a bit his
last start, But I asked a round about that to
some people, and no one seems too worried about it.
Speaker 1 (47:49):
You know.
Speaker 10 (47:49):
They think that once he's in a big league environment
and the adrenaline is going, that you know, he's not
gonna throw ninety seven ninety six anymore. But they need
him at ninety five and not at ninety one ninety two.
So if he's at ninety ninety four ninety five with
the fastball, Lance has got a track record at when
he when he's healthy, he's really good. So I'm really
(48:10):
anxious to see, after what two and a half, one
and a half years whatever it is, what he can
do against the big league lineup, and I think we're
gonna get to see that shot here pretty soon.
Speaker 3 (48:23):
All right, rossetting else from you?
Speaker 2 (48:26):
Oh sorry, I'm good, I'm good. Thank you, Matt, y'all.
A wait, y'all, Yeah, that's where we're on. What's a
split site? That's my bad.
Speaker 1 (48:34):
I'm just gonna say, I think I'm done with mctack.
Speaker 3 (48:38):
We'll give you some bullpen at this point anyway. So yeah,
that's true. We are talking down run if you're back off,
you got my jerseys, You got your jerseys are gonna
put on. I I already have several jerseys, but thank
you for asking. Yeah, didn't you get one?
Speaker 1 (48:51):
Matt?
Speaker 3 (48:51):
You got to pick it up at some point.
Speaker 1 (48:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (48:53):
You know, what we can have about a bullpen question
when when Ort and Forest Whitley do come back. I mean,
who are the guys you think aren't gonna be the
ones who are gonna get shut down? And how we're
just feeling about the the middle innings, especially of the
bullpen in general, and really kind of a bray who's
been a little bit shaky.
Speaker 10 (49:11):
Yeah, I mean, you know, Nick Hernandez just came up.
I mean I could see him. You know, he's a
guy who's probably gonna go up and down quite a
bit this year.
Speaker 3 (49:17):
I think he would. He could probably go back down
at this point.
Speaker 10 (49:20):
Contreras has been up and down and he's back down,
so you know, there's moves that can make there pretty easily.
Brian King has settled into that seventh inning role. Pretty
good left hander and pitch really well, uh you know,
or I mean Okrat has immerged as a weapon again.
He came in yesterday and pitched well, he's been really
(49:40):
really good.
Speaker 3 (49:41):
So uh, Josh Hater has been terrific.
Speaker 10 (49:43):
I don't know one's really paying attention to his numbers
because he hasn't had a ton of save opportunities. But
he his his numbers across the boarder are really awesome,
So he's.
Speaker 1 (49:54):
Having a good year.
Speaker 10 (49:54):
A Bra has been up and down. You know, he's
walking too many guys. But you know, I think I
think his last ABDIC was a little better. So their
pitching's fine. I mean, I'm if I'm the astros, I'm
not too worried about the pitching right now that they
just got to start hitting the bottom line.
Speaker 3 (50:08):
We'll leave it that friend.
Speaker 1 (50:09):
Thank you for the visitors always. Uh, and I'll be
sending you my rocket Shersey if you'd like to have one.
And uh, we'll talk with you in next week about
the same thing.
Speaker 3 (50:18):
All right, see you later, guys, got it.
Speaker 1 (50:20):
That's Brian McTaggart MLB dot com with us every Thursday
and they get the boys on. Uh they do the
on Deck show.
Speaker 3 (50:29):
Remember that.
Speaker 1 (50:30):
Uh, he's sust be on Fridays with them to here.
Speaker 2 (50:33):
I'll be yeah, I'll be doing Friday with Brian ay
Tiger Tomorrow, I'll be doing Saturday games as well, and
I'll be doing the Rockets on Sunday. Man, you're on
Sports Talk seven nighty your home. We actually Saturday Sunday
with the Rockets will be on news Radio seven forty
k trh.
Speaker 1 (50:46):
Oh, I definitely have to call you on Sunday then
because that could be a little lean late start.
Speaker 3 (50:50):
To public service announcement.
Speaker 2 (50:52):
Folks, Rockets coverage Sports Talk seven ninety late night on
excuse me on news Radio seven forty k TRH late
night on a Sunday listen, learn love all of those things.
And and now, when, seriously, when we do have the
Rockets and Astros playing still with the Rockets in the playoffs,
just always look for if you're looking for one or
the other, it will be seven ninety or seven forty.
Speaker 3 (51:13):
Generally ninety nine percent of the time. We should flip
it over to seven ninety when the Astros are done too.
Speaker 2 (51:17):
Don't you think it'd be smill it'd be nice, But
it's a Sunday night game too with the Astros, so
who knows?
Speaker 1 (51:22):
That's right?
Speaker 3 (51:24):
Man?
Speaker 1 (51:24):
We get a lot of Nashville run here. You got
the game of the week. You got the Apple games,
you got the Fox games, you got the Sunday night games.
Speaker 3 (51:33):
For a five hundred baseball team. Yeah, you know what
could be worse? Under five hundred?
Speaker 1 (51:40):
Slightly? My glasses half full? Is it?
Speaker 3 (51:44):
They're only three games back at first?
Speaker 11 (51:46):
That's right?
Speaker 1 (51:47):
Feeling goods right bout your jersey looks good by the
way they got Villa Reale spelled.
Speaker 3 (51:52):
Correctly and everything on the back of that bad boy.
Speaker 2 (51:54):
You're like the third person to say that to me.
It was the first thing that I looked at, just
because I have a long history pe misspelling it. But yes,
shout out to the PR Department of the ASH, I
mean the the Rockets with those great gifts in appreciate
them getting my name spelled right.
Speaker 1 (52:08):
I think people misspell When I first started spelling your name,
I got it wrong because I didn't.
Speaker 2 (52:12):
Had a second R at the in towards them. That's okay,
that's it's very common. It's a common name, and there
is a lot of people who spell it with just
one R.
Speaker 1 (52:19):
All right, seven one three two one two five seven Ounty.
You want to tell those people to shut their bumb
mass up. Ross, We could do that, sure, in.
Speaker 3 (52:26):
About fifteen minutes here on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (52:30):
Shut you a bull, mass Off, I ain't no, but
I got time for that coming up to the bottom
of the hour on Sports Talk seven ninety men and
ross with you here on Sports Talk seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven nine zero seven
one three two one two five seven ninety congratulations with you.
Thirty six officials named for the first round of the
NBA Playoffs. Ross critique, uh critic, I should say criteria
(52:57):
for the name.
Speaker 3 (52:58):
Thirty six people.
Speaker 1 (53:00):
NBA ref upgrades rankings, player calling accuracy, and team rankings.
How about that Scott Foster at the very top of
that list. Wow, two hundred and fifty five playoff games,
Scott Foster, Good for him. Mark Davis two hundred and
four playoff games. Okay, Tony Brothers two hundred and one
(53:27):
playoff games career.
Speaker 3 (53:28):
This is all from Wexer.
Speaker 1 (53:29):
By the way, he did he count every one of these.
Speaker 3 (53:31):
We probably did by hand. Lord, it's a lot of work,
a lot of free time.
Speaker 1 (53:35):
Who a lot of free time, by the way, A
lot of folks, I wouldn't say a lot of me.
Three or four people have sent me tweets about the
various ESPN and other prognosticators predictions of the Warriors Rocket series.
I think it's going about eighty twenty Warriors. Is that
how you're kind of seeing?
Speaker 3 (53:54):
It's probably about right? Yeah, I'm not mad about it.
That's fine.
Speaker 2 (54:00):
I understand the Warriors are being one of the hottest
teams in basketball. When are they twenty three and seven?
Speaker 1 (54:05):
Yeah, they're also starting war titles. I mean, you know,
they actually are playing better probably than they did last
year with Clay there. I mean I could get upset
you what I mean? Do you think em Adoka gives zero?
I mean, how many f's does he give about the
fact that Dave mcminnimon thinks that the Lakers or who
(54:29):
I'm just throwing a name out there, that the wars
are going to beat the Rockets in the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (54:34):
Seriously, I don't think he cares that much. Ramoona Shelbourne
picked the Rockets.
Speaker 3 (54:40):
Hmm, friend of Adam Clinton's, Yes, Adam's best friend.
Speaker 1 (54:47):
You know what, when you work for a media site,
they ask us every year give us your predictions on
variety of things. How many games are the Astros gonna win?
How many games of the rock it's gonna win? How
many you have to do it? I don't think it
unless you have some sort of deep seated hatred towards
the team. You're gonna try to be as fair as
(55:08):
you can.
Speaker 3 (55:09):
Yeah, the Rockets are underdogs.
Speaker 2 (55:11):
If you think they're gonna win, I had two hours
east and later downs.
Speaker 3 (55:16):
I mean, it's not that difficult.
Speaker 1 (55:18):
Yeah, I mean if you and I were doing a
show in Cleveland, what do we think we're gonna win
the series?
Speaker 3 (55:23):
Probably picking the Warriors.
Speaker 1 (55:25):
Yeah, I mean I can't get mad about that. I mean,
of look, first of all, you have what Orlando's in
the playoffs relatively an unknown team. I mean among the
how many are teams left? There are eighteen teams left
in the playoffs and see eight six. Yeah, there's two
(55:45):
playoffs and there's two playing games left. Of the eighteen
teams that are left, what are the Rockets probably seven,
sixteenth or seventeen.
Speaker 3 (55:52):
In terms of.
Speaker 1 (55:53):
Familiarity run the league, I mean who is more well
known around the league? The Pacers are the Rockets right now?
Speaker 3 (55:59):
Rockets significantly, not significantly.
Speaker 1 (56:03):
But Caliburton is still a pretty good star.
Speaker 2 (56:05):
Again, people know, you know, if we went to one
hundred people, who's the rocket that would be named most
in Houston or across Houston, across the across the country.
Dylan Brooks, If you and I went to a sports bar,
let's go at Rando c.
Speaker 1 (56:23):
Let's try Charlotte. We went to a Charlotte sports bar,
name a rocket. I would have to probably lean Jalen Green.
Speaker 3 (56:36):
Maybe because of the commercials he's doing for.
Speaker 1 (56:39):
The food for the because he's on ming Mop. Yeah,
I understand. Which is it's the chicken wing. I forgot Huh,
it would be I don't know. Maybe you get a
bunch of hands in the air.
Speaker 3 (56:58):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (56:59):
You know, matam fan of net rating, which is your
points per hundred possessions subtracted by your points given up.
Speaker 3 (57:04):
All all of us are yes.
Speaker 2 (57:07):
Since Jimmy Butler joined the Warriors, yeah, you could probably
guess number one. Probably for sure you can guess number
one in net rating and be the Oklahoma City Thunder. Okay,
and it's the Celtics, then it's the Warriors. So since
he's joined them, they've been by net rating, which I
really like as a good metric, third best in basketball.
Speaker 3 (57:27):
Here's the thing, And I watched every single second that
Memphis game.
Speaker 1 (57:31):
Did you see the same A lot of it?
Speaker 3 (57:32):
I wis think I watched ninety percent of it, including
the end. If it ain't Jimmy Butler or any Steph,
it ain't much.
Speaker 2 (57:41):
Well then that game, Yes, but Brandon Pa jimsk has scored,
so maybe good Kevon Looney quite frankly has given the
Rockets fits throughout the years.
Speaker 1 (57:51):
But a little bit of Moody, a little bit of
Gary Payton, but it was mainly those two guys the
one wild card. And we're gonna talk to the Voice
of the Warriors tomorrow on the show. I like Jonathan Kaminga.
Why does he just why is he falling on a
favor there?
Speaker 3 (58:08):
I don't know. He was DNPCD on Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (58:11):
Yeah, I don't care. It's one of those I just
don't get it, because man, he has toasted the Rockets
multiple occasions this year.
Speaker 3 (58:19):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 1 (58:21):
Would you do with johnthan Kaminga for cam wentmore trade
straight up? Yes, something like that, right, Yeah, I think
there are two teams that are like man, maybe a
change of scenery for these guys wouldn't be the worst
thing in the world.
Speaker 2 (58:34):
Comingo's uh average sixteen points per game last year, fifteen
this year.
Speaker 1 (58:39):
But doesn't even play I mean in a playing game
where you need offense.
Speaker 3 (58:44):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (58:47):
It must be something we don't know about him.
Speaker 3 (58:50):
We'll find out more tomorrow, all right, so we'll talk
to Tim Roy.
Speaker 1 (58:53):
The Voice of the Warriors, is part about anything goes Friday, um,
and we got we all use some Dana Brown. We'll
get to that coming up in a little bit in
the show. We may have that as part of the
news at noon, and then you have I just don't
get it, but yeah, if you're looking, I would just
say this for the Rocket fans that are out there,
you're not going to get the majority of the people
(59:15):
are going and maybe, and as I said before, has
there ever been a seven seed be a two to
one favorite over a two seed ever in an NBA
playoff series. Now, we've seen some twelves be favored over
fives in instability basketball games tournament games, but those are
one offs. I mean, that's a one and done. That
(59:37):
was a serious price to say that a seven seed
could beat a two seed four times out of possible
seven tries.
Speaker 2 (59:49):
Well, they don't play the games at the betting window. Matt,
we'll see what happens.
Speaker 1 (59:53):
And it just goes to show you that again they're
basically saying that a golden State has the playoff pedigree.
B the Rockets don't. And see they're a different basketball
team with Jimmy Butler than they were before him. All right,
time for people to help us tell some people to
shut their bum asses up.
Speaker 12 (01:00:13):
Can't let me again here, let me get t hear.
Let again damp here, Let to get damp air, Let
me get damfide. Let again here, let me again time here,
let me get damp it.
Speaker 1 (01:00:27):
Thirty four Matt Thomas Show with Ross continues seven one
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven nine zero. What are you
bothered about? You call this show? Seven one three two
one two five seven. I ain't tell us tell us
about people to shut their but asses up? Or if
(01:00:54):
someone is just going on and on and on and
on like words solid, if you will say, ain't nobody
got time for that?
Speaker 2 (01:01:03):
Nobody got time for you have to take shots at
Nicossario like that?
Speaker 1 (01:01:06):
How did you think I was not doing that?
Speaker 3 (01:01:08):
It seems like you might have been. I might mind
might have been, but I wasn't.
Speaker 1 (01:01:15):
To the NBA. Uh, eight thirty start time on Sunday
really means about eight fifty.
Speaker 3 (01:01:23):
Ain't nobody got time for that?
Speaker 1 (01:01:24):
That's too late.
Speaker 3 (01:01:25):
Ain't nobody got time for dad.
Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
Gotta keep these Warriors fans up on West Coast time, Matt,
We've been through the drill before.
Speaker 1 (01:01:35):
Because here's the thing, Mavericks Rizzley's winner, play the Thunder
Sunday at twelve, all right, two thirty Magic Celtics. Uh huh,
you could play Heat Cavaliers, Heat Hawks winner versus Cavaliers
at five, Warriors Rockets seven thirty.
Speaker 3 (01:01:55):
Boom boom boom boom boom.
Speaker 1 (01:01:57):
Right Sunday night. Why are we waiting to start a
Heat Hawks Cavaliers until six? Ain't nobody got time for
eight fifty star time? It's gonna thank you? Well?
Speaker 2 (01:02:13):
Uh, don't I have this correct? Isn't there only one
West Coast team in the playoffs or at least, I'm sorry,
on Sunday at least that is gonna play Sunday.
Speaker 1 (01:02:24):
Yes, that would be the Warriors.
Speaker 3 (01:02:29):
But I mean, why are you waiting an extra hour?
Speaker 1 (01:02:32):
Like if you if you're gonna go, you should go
back to back to back to back. If you want
all these games in international by themselves, window, you could
play the Magic Celtic, which you're playing at two thirty.
You play the heat Hawks at five. Is compared to six.
Push everybody up an hour.
Speaker 2 (01:02:49):
I'm gonna tell you, Matt. I'm sure they have data
on this. I know they know how to get the
most eyeballs on this. I'm sorry to tell you again.
All right, we're hearing from league offices. They're saying, shut
Joe Bumass, up, shit, Joe Bumass. You get an extra
cup of coffee. Exactly another thing. I got an one
for you here.
Speaker 1 (01:03:08):
You Rocket fans, you better show up, and you better
not sell your tickets to Warrior fans, because I'm definitely
afraid of me. Nine thousand step curry people in the
stadium on Sunday night. We'll see in advance. Ain't nobody
got tired for you selling your tickets off.
Speaker 3 (01:03:22):
Ain't nobody got for this tough economy out there right now?
Speaker 1 (01:03:27):
Matt, Well, it can't be that tough if you're buying
the tickets, unless you're just using them. It's a like
a stock.
Speaker 3 (01:03:35):
Yeah, don't check the Nasdaq or the Dow Jones.
Speaker 1 (01:03:41):
I'm just I'm really worried that it's gonna be San
Francisco Bay Area East at.
Speaker 3 (01:03:49):
The TODE Center.
Speaker 2 (01:03:50):
At least I'm confident that the Rockets fans will be
in their seats in times since it's eight thirty, so.
Speaker 3 (01:03:55):
That's a good news. Yeah about.
Speaker 1 (01:04:00):
Sunday night, Yeah, come on, you gotta be there that right,
I've seen these means.
Speaker 2 (01:04:06):
Read your voice to me, just saying you know them right,
We've been in the same building.
Speaker 1 (01:04:12):
I see the seats that are empty, like do you
see them? Right?
Speaker 9 (01:04:15):
Right?
Speaker 1 (01:04:15):
All right, just get I'm just saying, Houston, you better
get there and it better be full of Rockets gear.
I mean, you have to wear like jerseys and stuff.
But if I see step courageers everywhere, it's gonna make
me vomit. But I'm going to see it.
Speaker 3 (01:04:30):
It's gonna happen. It's just to what extent. Let's go Rockets,
all right, what you got this week? Let's matter with you?
Speaker 1 (01:04:36):
Uh, you know what.
Speaker 2 (01:04:37):
I'm just gonna go with Houston drivers in general. You know, man,
I told you I went to Kansas City last week
and I was driving around in a rental.
Speaker 3 (01:04:44):
It was pleasant.
Speaker 2 (01:04:45):
Now, maybe I was just in the wrong place at
the wrong time, and there's crazy Kansas City drivers, but nobody.
Speaker 3 (01:04:51):
Was acting like it was a NASCAR race. I didn't
have any jacked up F two fifties like tailgating me
and acting like a their mother is in the ambulance
and they need to go to the hospital. It wasn't
like an F one track a city track either. So
you know what I got back here in Houston and
(01:05:11):
then it's back to the same people are zooming in
and out, like acting like we're playing Need for Speed
video games. Ain't nobody had time for these Houston drivers.
Speaker 2 (01:05:21):
After a pleasant weekend in Kansas City driving around, I
was actually a floored And then it was a culture
shock again when they came back here to Houston.
Speaker 1 (01:05:31):
The worst drivers I've been around my entire life were
in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Speaker 3 (01:05:35):
Explain just pound for pound horrific, like just aggressive.
Speaker 1 (01:05:40):
No. You know, when you're in a parking department, store,
parking lot or any kind of lot like Walmart or whatever,
and you lean out to turn, they put out eighty
percent of their car you have to swerve to avoid
hitting them. Geez, that happened, No less, and I lived
in Salt Lake City for two and a half years.
It happened less than about fifty times the worst drivers
(01:06:03):
pound for pound Salt Lakes in Utah. I stand by
my statement.
Speaker 3 (01:06:09):
I'm not going to dispute you.
Speaker 1 (01:06:10):
Thank you friend.
Speaker 3 (01:06:11):
Houston's are pretty bad, though, Oh Houston's bad. Oh, don't
kid ourselves.
Speaker 1 (01:06:15):
We can. Let me tell you.
Speaker 3 (01:06:16):
I get out of fifty nine and leave in Tode
Center at night.
Speaker 2 (01:06:18):
That's right, you're always in the drag races now, with
the drag races.
Speaker 1 (01:06:21):
For some reason. And then I caught and get up
in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom,
and I check on the local news. You have three
died on fifty nine at uh Laura Copy because of
a terrible accident involving drag racers. What is it? When
did we decide that we are as Americans needed to
drag race at any point in our life? Did we
(01:06:42):
just do we not get hugged up? As a child?
Speaker 3 (01:06:45):
Maybe not. I used to go check out the drag
races on the good Night Trail.
Speaker 1 (01:06:49):
But when I was in high school, well, I lived
in Katie back in the day, and there were long
stretches of like Katie Clodine Road and stuff like that
that you could really if you want to go out
and drag for a little bit, you could get away
with it. You're on a major interstate or highway now
with sixty nine fifty nine whatever it's called. I mean
that you're just you're just playing Russian. What are you not?
Speaker 3 (01:07:13):
I guess. So we went a few times. He will
rank and road. Yeah, but we've ranking road is no
big loss, is what it is. So let's started getting
busted up by the police.
Speaker 1 (01:07:23):
All right, let's let's check it with Jonathan. Jonathan, something
matter with you this week?
Speaker 13 (01:07:30):
It's about the Neco trade. I just thought he went
to Ucla to transfer and I just had to get
this off. I've been waiting for the whole week. Look,
it looks bad, all right, I understand that. But he's
making an example. He's making it like himself, like the
Icarus of the whole na A trade. So we're gonna
have a bad example for the kids going flying too
close to the sun. Yeah, he just bit the head
(01:07:52):
in that fedom. He's gonna get paid like, not even
close to a million after TAXI is going to UCLA
when he had two point five million sitting there. But
this is just gonna show the few for kids and
athletes what not to do. And well, the programs like,
all right, this is our biggest case. We can do
it now, and now we can focus on contracts, one
year deals and all that stuff. But and a by
that time, for all you, all the people that I'm
begging for more money.
Speaker 1 (01:08:13):
I don't understand it.
Speaker 13 (01:08:13):
I just don't understand it. He made it look bad.
I don't I don't like it.
Speaker 3 (01:08:17):
Hmm. So he's going to u C l A making
is it a million?
Speaker 1 (01:08:21):
Is that what he's making basically, which is in California
money is.
Speaker 13 (01:08:24):
Terrible whatever spot, Well, he's from there, so I guess
he might get the you know, the NIO sponsors and deals.
Speaker 1 (01:08:30):
From the LBC. LBC mm hmm.
Speaker 2 (01:08:37):
Long Beach College, Long Beach, California is where you from.
Long Beach is actually nice these days.
Speaker 1 (01:08:42):
I like Long Beach.
Speaker 2 (01:08:44):
I have friends that live there. I don't really tell
you how many millions their house is.
Speaker 1 (01:08:50):
I haven't heard the term LSB seen a long time.
Speaker 2 (01:08:52):
By the way, once you're not listening to enough snoop
do o, double g exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:08:57):
That's what I was thinking, all right, seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seven ninety Christian, what's the matter with you?
Speaker 11 (01:09:10):
Tick Noster Thomas?
Speaker 1 (01:09:11):
By the way, I do my normal.
Speaker 14 (01:09:15):
Guys sees with the rockets you talk about.
Speaker 3 (01:09:18):
It is this our phones? I think it might be ours.
Speaker 1 (01:09:27):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:09:31):
Anybody had time for these phone issues.
Speaker 1 (01:09:35):
Hey, nobody got time for Maybe it's just line one.
Speaker 3 (01:09:37):
I think line one is the worst problem of them
all and feels like line was like two, does it too?
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:09:44):
I'll put it in another trouble ticket and then it'll
work for three weeks. Because now these people, these it people,
think I'm nuts because everything fixes once I put in
a trouble ticket.
Speaker 3 (01:09:51):
They start getting really terse with you. Oh my god. Yeah,
They're like, all right, this idiot here, all.
Speaker 1 (01:09:57):
Right, we will take a sh time out and hopefully
Jason and Katie's line will be much more clear than
Christian lamartin may Mee La Mark's got bad phone lines.
You never know these things too. Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven ninety It is the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross News and Noon is coming up. Em a
(01:10:20):
dooka at one o'clock, before that at twelve thirty. I
just don't get it held one second. All right, let
me tell you right now about two creeks crossing a resort.
If you want some downtime, if you want to relax,
if you want to get out of nature. Ross's problem
is sometimes they press it too many.
Speaker 3 (01:10:41):
Bit that's not true.
Speaker 1 (01:10:42):
All right, let's get back out on the phone. Seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven ninety of the news,
and noon is coming up in about ten minutes from now.
Speaker 3 (01:10:54):
Jason, thoughts and prayers. What's the matter with you?
Speaker 1 (01:10:56):
Jason?
Speaker 15 (01:10:58):
Well, first off, that that long beach stuff yard time
on that place is nice. We went on the cruise
out of there, and the airport's fast and clean and
everything's nice.
Speaker 3 (01:11:06):
Oh the airport's great.
Speaker 15 (01:11:08):
A little airport's badass, but anyway, uh, and nobody got
time for the roundabout and Katie at Canaut and Parkay
where the BUCkies did. There's more honking going on there
than an entire downtown Houston.
Speaker 1 (01:11:22):
For I've never been to that. I mean, I've been
to that BUCkies. I don't know that round about it
being such a bigger problem though. Huh boy, I ain't
got time for my car to be vandalized at eleanor
Tinsley Park this past Saturday. Plow that out there.
Speaker 3 (01:11:39):
Welcome to age town, baby, five hundred and sixty three
dollars in damage later. Ugh, that's tough.
Speaker 1 (01:11:48):
This is tough, especially when you're deductibles five hundred are like,
you can pay that, go ahead and knock yourself out.
Speaker 2 (01:11:55):
At least everything got recovered. That is that's rare. Honestly,
you guys are lucky.
Speaker 1 (01:11:59):
Very very lucky on that. Because she has a little
stuffed animal she's been sleeping with since she's a baby.
And really, yeah, so what teenage girls do they still
sleep with stuffed animals.
Speaker 3 (01:12:12):
You don't have to do, man. You need to put
her business in the streets like that, Matt, I know,
because she's.
Speaker 1 (01:12:18):
Seventeen, it's fine.
Speaker 13 (01:12:19):
What if her friends clipped that dude and then next
thing you know, she's had that for the rest of
her life. Her friends have ammunition.
Speaker 1 (01:12:25):
Nah, I got a lot worse things on her than that,
trust me. Let's go to Roger on seven nine, eight
eleven fifty two Roger, what's the matter with you?
Speaker 16 (01:12:39):
Well, I'm a little don't have time for certain passengers.
Speaker 3 (01:12:44):
I'm a Uber driver.
Speaker 16 (01:12:45):
I've done on like twenty thousand rides over the last
six years. Yeah, and one of my passengers was certain
that she had to talk to me the whole way
with NonStop because because normally I'm okay with that, But
she said that she was afraid that her drivers would
(01:13:08):
fall asleep.
Speaker 3 (01:13:09):
That's why she always talked to them the whole.
Speaker 1 (01:13:11):
Way without NonStop.
Speaker 16 (01:13:16):
She must have had some PTSD going on with her,
some previous driver or something, because it was actually made
the ride up actually not as safe because I have
this person rambling.
Speaker 1 (01:13:28):
Roger, I'm sorry for you on that. By the way,
are you both an Uber and a left or are
you just an Uber.
Speaker 16 (01:13:34):
Both both Between the two of them, I've got over
twenty thousand rides.
Speaker 1 (01:13:37):
Well, first of all, congratulations, Second, I'm sure you've got
a great star rating. And third, what up with Uber
way more expensive than a Lyft these days?
Speaker 16 (01:13:48):
That's a good question because they actually give the drivers
less than Lyfts. So I don't make it don't make
any sense to me.
Speaker 1 (01:13:57):
Okay, Well, you get me your beginning a five star
review and a ginormous tip. So how about that sounds good? Yeah,
pick me up today. I'll go anywhere with you.
Speaker 3 (01:14:08):
Thanks Roger for the phone call.
Speaker 1 (01:14:10):
Ross I Hello to the driver, and and maybe just
a little bit of small talk if neither one of
us needs it. But most time I get in the
back and I just close my eyes or I get
on my phone.
Speaker 3 (01:14:19):
Right, Yeah, that's me. And when I was a driver,
you kind of have played it by year because you
want to get a five star rating.
Speaker 2 (01:14:24):
Some people want silence, some people want chat So I
would just kind of say hello and then maybe one
other thing.
Speaker 3 (01:14:32):
And if the chatting kept going, that was cool.
Speaker 2 (01:14:34):
If not, I'm more than happy to sit there in silence.
Speaker 9 (01:14:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:14:38):
You know there's on the rift app you can ask
for uh, I guess you can.
Speaker 3 (01:14:44):
You can detail what you want, like if you want.
Speaker 1 (01:14:45):
The car to be cool, if you're really be warm,
if you want quiet, like no music, all the above.
Speaker 2 (01:14:52):
They can customer that bad boy for you. That's great.
And yeah, as a writer, I don't ever want to
chat my driver.
Speaker 1 (01:15:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (01:15:02):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:15:02):
The only thing that ever kind of bothers me, and
it's it's the music choices sometimes, well, you're there, you're
in their car, bat I know, but they're the one
they want a good tip. So putting on this outrageous,
terrible music from nineteen ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:15:19):
Four that goes it's not what it sounds pretty good,
and they're trying to educate you on some music, Matt, they.
Speaker 1 (01:15:29):
Got time to I don't have time for education.
Speaker 12 (01:15:32):
Hey, nobody got time today exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:15:34):
I did have a driver, by the way, who kind
of started to nod off at a light. Uh uh,
But we were like so close to home. I didn't
really want to like start an incident. He got up
when the light turned green. He kind of woke up,
and I was just like watching him. I was like, Okay,
if this guy starts to not off or something.
Speaker 1 (01:15:50):
Yeah, I have not, by the way, taken the car
with no driver yet. I was supposed to do that
this week in California, but I got start getting to
do it. I'm good.
Speaker 3 (01:15:59):
I guess My question is what's the charm in it?
Is it just because macharremy? Is it saves them money
they don't have to pay drivers.
Speaker 1 (01:16:06):
But I'm talking about does it past savings belong to me?
I would imagine, so it should I mean you wouldn't
have to talk to the driver at that point, that's
for sure.
Speaker 3 (01:16:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:16:17):
Especially Yeah, when they're going in the middle of traffic
getting in a wreck, you can't tell them to stop.
Speaker 1 (01:16:24):
I don't know. How have there been a high accident
rate on those things?
Speaker 3 (01:16:28):
I don't know. I imagine it's lower than humans.
Speaker 1 (01:16:33):
But these things that they're like a little flying saucers
on top of the on the hood of the car.
Speaker 3 (01:16:39):
Yes, we're just continuing to automate the working class. Let's go.
Speaker 1 (01:16:43):
Well, as long as I'm safe, I'll pay for it.
Somebody's making some money off of it. Who is it?
Speaker 3 (01:16:48):
What do you mean the big companies?
Speaker 1 (01:16:50):
Okay, well, I mean somebody's got to get paid. Just
give me there safely, make sure the car doesn't smell.
H have a terrible EDM music on from nineteen four wolf.
You sound like a hater, not a hater, just I
just want peace and quiet and not to die on
(01:17:11):
the drive there. Worst uber ever took was from a
downtown San Franco the airport. My wife and my oldest
who you know, Cameron, it was. They were bawling, We're
gonna die, Dad, We're gonna die, Like we're gonna barely
make it. We barely made it.
Speaker 3 (01:17:25):
You made it, all right, Quit your whining. Tell them
to shut their masks. I'm not me. I was finer
in the whole thing. I've been in worse upers for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:17:34):
Yeah, all right, get Taiwanese and tell them to try
a Taiwanese cab driver.
Speaker 1 (01:17:39):
How was that? By the way, moving and shaking, Maddie,
you felt like you were in an Indy car speaking
of a NASCAR that small to they take you in
when you over there? It depends.
Speaker 2 (01:17:49):
Yeah, the cars are a lot smaller, like we would
get Uber XL and it would just be like a
regular car in America.
Speaker 3 (01:17:56):
Really, yes, at least you got good value, I mean,
was cheaper.
Speaker 2 (01:18:01):
But also everywhere in Taiwan there's a million people driving
in their little motor scooters weaving in and out of everyone.
Speaker 1 (01:18:07):
Oh, Bob, I got one for you, real quick, for
wrapping things up. I was in California for the last week.
Motorcycle drivers just in general on freeways in and out
of people's lanes, going high speed. Ain't nobody got time
for that.
Speaker 3 (01:18:23):
Nobody got time for just terrible? All right?
Speaker 1 (01:18:29):
Uh that starts, Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:18:32):
I actually said.
Speaker 1 (01:18:32):
Wraps up this week's edition of Shut Your Baw mass
up seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven nine.
Speaker 3 (01:18:43):
Zero on Twitter at sports MPT, at sports rv uch Timers.
Speaker 1 (01:18:48):
This is our number three of the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross on a Thursday. As we do every time
at this spot, around twelve o'clock, we.
Speaker 3 (01:18:57):
Present to you the news at noon, and we'll do that.
Speaker 1 (01:19:03):
With the Hugh Downs of Houston sports journalism. We present
to you the one and only Rossviller.
Speaker 2 (01:19:09):
Well, that what a great compliment. I appreciate it. A
lot of stuff to get to you. Here are all
the news at dude. Let's go ahead and start with
your use at Astros scoring all of one run yesterday
in Saint Louis.
Speaker 5 (01:19:23):
Runner goes again in the O two and that's back
to the right field, but that is right at. Scott
reaches up, makes the catch and that is the ballgame.
Saint Louis Cardinals take two out of three from the Astros.
That's Houston still looking to win back to back games.
Cardinals victorious four to one.
Speaker 2 (01:19:42):
A bunt, then a bloop, then a Lars Newt bar
three run homer. The difference in this one other than
that Renel Blanco was pretty solid and the bullpen did
their thing, but the bats again quiet for the Houston Astros,
only four hits, only one run scored, all for five
(01:20:03):
with runners in scoring position. A day after I believe
they were one for seven with runners in scoring position.
The Astros for thirteen straight games have alternated wins and losses.
Speaker 1 (01:20:16):
You added up.
Speaker 2 (01:20:16):
They are eight and ten on the season and well
as mediocre as it gets right now, Matthew, the.
Speaker 1 (01:20:24):
Reality is this ross and we now have a little
bit of a better sample size than we even did
a week ago.
Speaker 3 (01:20:30):
This pitching staff, generally.
Speaker 1 (01:20:32):
Speaking, with the exception of the implosion that Farmer had
a couple days ago, is saving the Astros bacon right now.
I mean, this offense just cannot get stuck out of
neutral or in that case low speed.
Speaker 2 (01:20:49):
Yeah, it has been a lot of the pitching. I mean,
even if you go to ERA, they're still like tenth
or twelfth in baseball, So it's not like they've been
completely dominant like they were maybe earlier on in the season.
But teams right now, twenty sixth they're better than the
White Sox, Royals, Pirates, and Reds.
Speaker 3 (01:21:06):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (01:21:07):
If you took that fourteen run amount, how bad would
it have been?
Speaker 3 (01:21:10):
Good? God, I didn't even want to know.
Speaker 2 (01:21:14):
At least those runs still count even though they are
against the Angels, although.
Speaker 3 (01:21:17):
The angel is still in no second place.
Speaker 1 (01:21:19):
Now, yeah, I mean it's a very winnable division. The
Astros are as mid as possible.
Speaker 3 (01:21:24):
There what three back of first place? You can you
can knock that out in ten days.
Speaker 2 (01:21:29):
There's still only one division in baseball where nobody has
a positive run differential.
Speaker 3 (01:21:34):
It's your American League West. Oh you know what?
Speaker 1 (01:21:38):
Why do they? Why does the American League West and
the AFC South mirror each other?
Speaker 2 (01:21:43):
It's a pile of blah, that's what you've got elsewhere, Matt.
Speaker 3 (01:21:50):
Well, let's go to the NBA quickly.
Speaker 2 (01:21:51):
We know the Rockets and Warriors will be facing off
at eight thirty pm on TNT and of course on
our sister station, news Radio seven forty kt o H
no games today.
Speaker 3 (01:22:02):
You'll have the Heat and Hawks taking on each other
at six o'clock tomorrow, and then the Mavericks and Grizzlies
Grizzly six and a half point favorites, while the Hawks
are home dogs to the Miami Heat favored by one
and a half.
Speaker 1 (01:22:17):
By the way, I just saw a tweet. If you'd
like to go to the Mavericks Grizzlies game in Memphis
right now, you can walk in for nine dollars.
Speaker 3 (01:22:26):
That's a deal on this series.
Speaker 2 (01:22:29):
Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, John Moran, Jaron Jackson, Junior nine bucks.
Speaker 3 (01:22:33):
Put igo gonna fly up there, Maddie.
Speaker 17 (01:22:37):
No, oh no no. But that either that is that
the playing doesn't have the Bucks, or that no one
in Memphis wants this season to continue.
Speaker 3 (01:22:51):
On and don't want to see it first hand.
Speaker 2 (01:22:54):
Well, it's basically for the right to get destroyed by
the thunder.
Speaker 1 (01:22:57):
Correct. So here's what you do. You play the late
game on Friday night. Your reward, You leave your building
and you fly right to Oklahoma City, where you get
to play the very first game on Sunday. You get
basically thirty hours off before you get pummeled by shake
Yalders Alexander and Franz by the team.
Speaker 2 (01:23:16):
Yeah, your reward is the team with the greatest point
differential in NBA history.
Speaker 3 (01:23:21):
Yep, who've been resting for a week.
Speaker 2 (01:23:23):
Oo, well, good luck to the Memphis Grizzlies or the
Dallas Mavericks there.
Speaker 3 (01:23:31):
All right, let's keep it moving.
Speaker 2 (01:23:32):
Mat Your general manager of your Houston Texans, Nick Casario,
speaking to the media yesterday. Guess what he said about
players who are gonna be pick number twenty five.
Speaker 3 (01:23:42):
They're gonna be good.
Speaker 6 (01:23:44):
If we pick at twenty five, we're gonna get a
good football player. I mean, honestly, we feel good about
this draft. I mean, there's players letter throughout the draft,
so we're pretty well positioned. We'll have an opportunity, we think,
throughout the draft to add players that we think are
gonna create some competition on this football team. I say,
whoever we bring in, I mean, it's gonna be hard
make this football team. We feel good about the players.
I mean, our board's probably smaller than some other boards,
(01:24:04):
and that's okay, but there'll be players that pick on Thursday.
There's gonna be players to pick on Friday. Honestly, there's
gonna be players for us to pick on Saturday that
we actually feel good about. We're gonna get a good
player if we pick it twenty five, and if we
don't pick it twenty five, then wherever we pick next
or whenever we do pick, we think we're gonna get
a pretty good player.
Speaker 3 (01:24:19):
Very profound stuff there from Nick Cassario. They're gonna get
good players in the draft.
Speaker 1 (01:24:23):
He thinks it would have been so much funnier if
you just said, look, we're so good that we might
just skip picking twenty five because we can't find twenty
five good players in this draft. Play the first can
you play at ross the first five seconds of that?
It sound bite again?
Speaker 6 (01:24:45):
If you pick it twenty five, we're gonna get a
good football player. I mean, honestly, we feel good about
this draft. I mean, there's players let me throw out
the draft.
Speaker 1 (01:24:53):
Okay, here's what we want them to say. Oh god,
this draft blows. We're a pick twenty five. I mean,
we might as well just put a blindfold on and
just throw a dart at the board and whoever we
throw it, and whoever it hits, we just pick, give
him a first round graft, give him a first round
(01:25:13):
contract and say congratulations, you got lucky. Could you imagine
him saying, yeah, we picked at twenty five, and man,
we suck. We have we have no chance. Whoever says that, Nobody.
Speaker 2 (01:25:27):
Ever does nobody. All right, man, we'll get go ahead. Sorry,
did you want to It's.
Speaker 1 (01:25:33):
Gonna say he was gonna say, what if the Texans
first pack draft pick was at eighty seven? May We're
at eighty seven and we love our spot. I mean,
we just cannot.
Speaker 3 (01:25:42):
Then it's time to take Davis Mills.
Speaker 1 (01:25:45):
Money Mills. Let's trade. Let's trade around our overrated offensive
lineman and give up two drafts for.
Speaker 2 (01:25:52):
They got picks back for for Laramie Tunsil. Who you're
calling an overrated lineman pro bowler, Laramie Tuencil.
Speaker 1 (01:25:58):
He's properly rated, properly rated.
Speaker 3 (01:26:02):
Uh huh.
Speaker 2 (01:26:04):
A couple of college football notes, Matt, Let's start with this.
The NCAA has implemented a new rule to address injury faking.
The Playing Rules Oversight Panel has approved changes to the
rules that where a team will be charged a timeout
if medical personnel enter the field of play to evaluate
a player for an injury after the official has spotted
(01:26:26):
the ball for the next offensive play, the team does
not have any timeouts remaining, they will be charged a
five yard delay of game penalty.
Speaker 1 (01:26:39):
I applaud the idea.
Speaker 3 (01:26:41):
The execution could get a little Murky Ross.
Speaker 1 (01:26:43):
And most importantly, the going to these coaches are going
to tell these players is if you have any alleys,
you better tell us really fast.
Speaker 3 (01:26:50):
You better run your ass off the field.
Speaker 1 (01:26:52):
Or stay down quick, because if you stay down quick,
we can get out there faster before the ball is
spotted and we then a dust don't get charge.
Speaker 2 (01:27:02):
So if the medical personnel comes on the field before
the ball is.
Speaker 1 (01:27:05):
Butted, they're good.
Speaker 3 (01:27:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:27:09):
If they enter the play the field after the official
ast spot of the ball.
Speaker 3 (01:27:12):
Interesting, Yeah, so that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (01:27:15):
So what they're basically telling you is don't try to
get up and fight it off.
Speaker 2 (01:27:19):
Just sit there and there basically a soccer player. Okay,
so they can still fake injuries.
Speaker 3 (01:27:24):
Yeah, of course, it's just gonna be a little bit.
You get to do a lot of faster.
Speaker 4 (01:27:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:27:27):
Yeah, it does happen in soccer, and obviously it fall
happens with so much in college football.
Speaker 3 (01:27:31):
They're making rules about it. Oh I know, I know.
Speaker 1 (01:27:37):
Could you imagine a new penalty in college football personal
foul fifteen yards offense, offensive alignement, fat and out of shape,
faking a penalty, faking an injurytion.
Speaker 2 (01:27:49):
City Now they do give out yellow cards in soccer
for flopping.
Speaker 3 (01:27:53):
They call it.
Speaker 2 (01:27:54):
Simulation, but it's like kind of like the NBA. They
for every hundred flops they penalize it.
Speaker 3 (01:28:02):
Just a couple of times.
Speaker 1 (01:28:03):
Ross. I did an eighty.
Speaker 3 (01:28:04):
NBA games this year.
Speaker 1 (01:28:05):
I think I called three three flopping calls, two against.
I think I'm pretty shate dude. That's what it is. Oops.
Speaker 3 (01:28:14):
All right?
Speaker 2 (01:28:15):
Anyways, Matt elsewhere in College Football News Elite Courso we'll
sign off as College Game Day analyst in August, ending
his career that began with the Family Networks in nineteen
eighty seven, thirty eight.
Speaker 1 (01:28:29):
Years doing it on ESPN. Would you put him on
your Mount Rushmore of I shouldn't say Mount Rushmore. If
you want an ESPN Hall of Fame Personalities group, is
Courso in that inaugural class?
Speaker 3 (01:28:47):
I would guess?
Speaker 1 (01:28:48):
So here'd be my inaugural class of ESPN Personality? Is
you ready? Okay? Go cal? I just don't.
Speaker 3 (01:28:58):
He was just much more sticking.
Speaker 2 (01:29:00):
Okay, you blipped a little Dick Vitel.
Speaker 1 (01:29:02):
Yeah, Dick Vitowel. Okay, I go dick Ytwel. I'd go Corso,
I'd go Berman. Huh. Anybody else i'd put in my
hall of Stephen A.
Speaker 9 (01:29:13):
Smith.
Speaker 2 (01:29:14):
No, No, I'm just saying the accomplishments there. You don't
have to like him, you cannot. Sorry, I'm sorry, Matt,
he's if we were on the committee together, I'd have
to overrule because I understand you don't respect him.
Speaker 3 (01:29:30):
But he has been that network for like twenty years now,
or maybe ten fifteen years. I know, I know it's true.
Speaker 1 (01:29:45):
But if I'm building my hall of fame ESPN class,
am I putting Steven in that first group? Yes? Guys, yes,
are you sure?
Speaker 3 (01:29:54):
I'm sorry to say, all right.
Speaker 1 (01:29:58):
You win, you win. By the way, I cannot wait
for him to run the president. I cannot.
Speaker 3 (01:30:06):
He's not it's not happening. He cannot. Please. Oh, he's
already opened it up. He's gonna consider it now.
Speaker 2 (01:30:11):
No politics are enough of a farce. This is ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (01:30:15):
I would literally, I don't care who it is.
Speaker 3 (01:30:17):
I would vote for uh.
Speaker 2 (01:30:20):
Jimmy Carter over him his court, Jimmy Carter's corpse.
Speaker 1 (01:30:24):
I would vote for Jimmy Carter's corpse over Stephen A. Smith.
Speaker 3 (01:30:29):
Well, I will just be like every other presidential election.
I will not be voting in it, and that.
Speaker 1 (01:30:36):
My friends, was the news at noon twelve fifteen, Sports
Talk seven and coming up at the bottom of the hour,
I just don't get it seven one three, two, one
two five seven onety I don't get While some of
you are having a tax issues, we saw you some
dand Brown will get that for you coming up in
just a few minutes here on the program we have
(01:30:59):
I just don't get it coming up at the bottom
of the hour. We have Ema Adoka at one o'clock
this afternoon, and if you missed a conversation with Brian McTaggart,
that's shameful on you. We'll be playing some of that
coming up for you in about one thirty, so about
an hour from now. So we got a lot going on.
We got another person and we were talking about Steven
(01:31:20):
Asmith want to run for politics. Roman Rains might want
to run for politics when his WWE contract is done.
This is crazy. Everybody wants jump in the political waters.
I wanted to go far away from it.
Speaker 2 (01:31:32):
Who was that wrestler that was governor of Minnesota? Jesse Ventura,
Jesse the body Ventura.
Speaker 3 (01:31:38):
That is correct. Whatever it is interesting, how our society is.
Speaker 1 (01:31:47):
We will go from We need experience in our in
our office, and then we need oh, we need a
fresh blood.
Speaker 3 (01:31:53):
We need somebody that's non political.
Speaker 1 (01:31:54):
And now we're looking back, we can't figure what we want.
Speaker 2 (01:31:57):
Yeah, you say interesting, I would say disappointing and disheartening.
Speaker 3 (01:32:01):
Okay, I think it's probably right.
Speaker 1 (01:32:04):
That's probably right, all right, seven one three, two one
two five seven nine zero Astros. With the day off tomorrow,
San Diego Potres are coming into play. Here's the thing
that worries me, ROSSI. The San Diego Potters can score
some runs here. I mean, this is gonna be either
the pitching's got to be amazing or the pottery's better
be off, or whatever the case may be. Because the
(01:32:25):
San Diego Patres are in first place in America in
the National League West. They are fifteen and four, they
have a plus thirty seven differential, and they've scored eighty
eight runs have only given up fifty. Woo.
Speaker 3 (01:32:41):
It's pretty good.
Speaker 1 (01:32:45):
Yeah, damn that America League West. San Diego fifteen and four.
Sat nashally rescuse me, fifteen and four. San Diego sam
Cisco is thirteen and five. The Dodgers are fourteen and six.
The old lowal Arizona did are eleven and seven, and
then you have got Colorado three and fifteen Rockies.
Speaker 3 (01:33:03):
What's going on over there? Rockies are like, man, we're
the bitch of this division. Yesh, yeah, they are three
and fifteen. Come on, they're the the the National League
West is the anti American League West. The Rockies have
ever been good like the Rockies?
Speaker 14 (01:33:21):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:33:21):
They made the World Series in what two thousand and four.
Speaker 1 (01:33:25):
Four and eight? One of those two one of them
the Red Sox one of those years. They also, I
want to say, took a wald cart away from the
Astros back in the nineties, but I wouldn't. I mean,
if you're if you were to go to the most
non descript Major League Baseball team, the Colado Rockies are like.
Speaker 3 (01:33:46):
Right at the top probably. I mean, here's what they have.
They won one in seven, seven.
Speaker 1 (01:33:54):
Yeah it was seven. They lost this to the Red Sox.
They have a beautifl full city, an amazing ballpark. They
just don't spend any money.
Speaker 3 (01:34:05):
I don't think. Man, it is a gorgeous ballpark, very.
Speaker 1 (01:34:09):
Nice, and you can't get pictures to go there, nor
should you, Like, you know, Garret Cole's like thinking about
where should I go to you?
Speaker 3 (01:34:16):
Mike Anton went over there. I guess yeah, and then
he saw his Daryl Kyle went there. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:34:23):
It's not a even when they I mean, they could
put like butter coating on those baseballs. It wouldn't make
any difference.
Speaker 3 (01:34:29):
I don't know what. Yeah, the humidor is not working.
The humid are working.
Speaker 1 (01:34:35):
They've scored fifty two runs in eighteen games. Oh, their
run to Frenchi or Rossie is a minus fifty one.
They've scored fifty two and have given up one hundred
and three. Makes the Astros offense, who's scored sixty six
(01:34:55):
looking like the twenty seven Yankees.
Speaker 2 (01:35:00):
Here are their top ten career leaders for a picture
war for pictures you ball tho him in as one.
Speaker 1 (01:35:11):
Can I even name ten? No?
Speaker 9 (01:35:12):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:35:13):
These are A Kyle Freeland, Aaron Cook, Hoge delar Rosa.
Speaker 1 (01:35:19):
Wasn't there at Jennings at some point there.
Speaker 3 (01:35:22):
Herman Marquez who Julie's Chasine?
Speaker 9 (01:35:28):
What?
Speaker 1 (01:35:29):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:35:29):
John Gray, I know him, Pedro A Stasio, I know him.
Speaker 1 (01:35:33):
Yeah, Jason Jennings, Jennings somewhere in the mix.
Speaker 3 (01:35:38):
This is bad. Yeah, their all time leader and wins
is hoge de la Rossa.
Speaker 1 (01:35:46):
How many do you have.
Speaker 2 (01:35:48):
Hunt hold on eighty six and how many years? Looks
like he was at Colorado for ninety years.
Speaker 3 (01:35:56):
So nine ab out of eighty six is a little
more than nine.
Speaker 1 (01:36:03):
Do they retire Horhead? I mean I can look, I
can name some offensive players, Larry Rocker, Dante Boschett, Vinnie Castilla.
I mean there are plenty of guys on the offensives
that I can name. I can't name pitchers. No, yikes,
Let's go to Corey New Orleans at twelve twenty seven
before we get to I just don't get it.
Speaker 3 (01:36:22):
Hello, Corey.
Speaker 18 (01:36:25):
Hey, guys, you can't have inaugural ESPN Hall of Fame
class without the guys that made that network what it is,
and that's Stan Patrick, Stuart Scott, and Bob Lee.
Speaker 3 (01:36:38):
No question took it to enough level.
Speaker 1 (01:36:41):
Yeah, you're right, Dan Patrick.
Speaker 2 (01:36:43):
You were saying personalities, so I was thinking maybe not
Sports Center anchors, So I.
Speaker 1 (01:36:48):
Thought that's why you were doing. I was much more
ross with the with the broadbrush I was going with.
If you were to create an ESPN Hall of Fame,
you know how you have on these Hall of Fames
and the astros unfortunately probably burn too many too early.
If you would have like that inaugural class of three
or four right at the top, how long does it
take before Corso gets in?
Speaker 3 (01:37:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 18 (01:37:09):
Even like the second class. Second class would be guys
like Peter Gammons.
Speaker 1 (01:37:16):
Maybe, Uh, Chris Mortenson.
Speaker 18 (01:37:19):
Being on Sunday Night Sunday Night Baseball for so long.
Speaker 1 (01:37:22):
Yeah, Chris Mortensen, John Miller, Joe Morgan, h exactly. Yeah.
Speaker 18 (01:37:28):
Yeah, but inaugural you gotta you gotta at least have
Stewart Scott.
Speaker 1 (01:37:34):
Uh. Yeah, he was the first. Really, thank you for
the phone he Keith Oberman and Patrick were probably the first,
would you say, ross the first personality driven sports anchors?
Speaker 3 (01:37:45):
Yeah, I guess, so put them in there.
Speaker 2 (01:37:49):
But yeah, I guess when you were naming off people,
I was just thinking non sports center anchors because you
were saying like personality show.
Speaker 1 (01:37:58):
I didn't really define it very well. Yeah, I just
I mean, they're all the names you brought up are
all if you had this ESPN Hall of Fame, would
all be in it. I mean we're not gonna argue
that point. What about Sean Salisbury, Uh? Sure him and
John Clayton. I mean wanted when those two guys did
(01:38:20):
four downs together. That was some great television.
Speaker 3 (01:38:23):
It was Michael Wilbon, Tony Kornheiser, yep, yep on there
on there, Michelle Beadle. How long was she there?
Speaker 1 (01:38:35):
Not long? Pam Ward.
Speaker 3 (01:38:39):
Okay, now we're getting deep into the list.
Speaker 1 (01:38:47):
No, I think Krnheiser and yeah. I mean that's why
if you if you have an ESPN Hall of Fame,
you gotta you gotta let train down. Like who is
left for the Astros Hall of Fame? Is there anybody left?
When we know Wagner, well, he's already in.
Speaker 3 (01:39:04):
I think Charlton Jimmerson is in the next.
Speaker 1 (01:39:06):
It's not true. It's not true. Willie was Wiliadamas and Astro.
I always forget these names.
Speaker 2 (01:39:14):
Willie tavaresvars is their longest hit streak of all time.
Speaker 1 (01:39:18):
I mean, if Tonio Sabio is getting in the ass, heay, hold.
Speaker 2 (01:39:22):
On now, hold on now, Astro's Clipper needs to be in.
Speaker 1 (01:39:30):
I knew you were going to say that. I knew
you were going to say that. All right, seven one three,
two one two five seven nights years.
Speaker 3 (01:39:42):
Do you have something in your life that you just
don't get no need to worry, no need to.
Speaker 1 (01:39:49):
We will discuss the something.
Speaker 3 (01:39:50):
Just see if we comprehend the things that make him
use our friends. It's time to say, I just don't
get it, all right?
Speaker 1 (01:40:01):
What don't you get ladies and gentlemen seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seven ninety But something that bothers you
in terms of Hey, I'm just kind of confused by situations,
or I am befuddled by something, or there's something I
saw on the road, or you know, in your life.
(01:40:23):
Ross and myself, we have a lot of user experience,
as a father, as a friend, as a brother, as
a resident of our town. Things I just don't get.
I would say, I have a question for you. When
you have three young teenage or teenagers at eleanor Tinsley
Park that have a car vandalized and it takes a
police five hours to get there to take a look
(01:40:46):
at the scene, I would say, Ross, I just don't
get it.
Speaker 18 (01:40:52):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:40:54):
Oh, you're out to tell me some bad news, aren't you.
Speaker 3 (01:40:57):
Am I gonna? I don't want to be me. I mean,
I'm not trying to be mean. It's just police have
a lot to do.
Speaker 2 (01:41:04):
There are and while your your property is very important
mat it's probably low on their praiory list.
Speaker 3 (01:41:12):
They deal with it.
Speaker 1 (01:41:12):
Probably, I think by waiting five hours, it's definitely not Probably.
Speaker 2 (01:41:20):
Stolen vehicles, stolen property happens, how would you guess, hundreds
of times a day in the city, But isn't supposed to.
Speaker 1 (01:41:28):
Be Saturday at five point thirty not supposed to be
an issue, don't They don't. Don't the hoodlands usually wait
till like ten o'clock at night, the great I.
Speaker 3 (01:41:35):
Don't think the hoodlands are on a schedule.
Speaker 1 (01:41:39):
You don't. You don't get early bird pricing on the
victimization of things, Okay, I got you.
Speaker 2 (01:41:44):
I mean we've all been there. I had a car randomly.
I think it was just a random act of violence.
I don't either it's kids down the street or whatever.
I had a window smashed in the back of my
car and it took them hours and hours to get
And the guy was like.
Speaker 3 (01:41:59):
He's like, do you even want to write this up?
Like you wanted to? And you know, you kind of
have that realization.
Speaker 2 (01:42:05):
Like, yeah, they don't really care about this, This doesn't
really matter to them. They got bigger fish to fry,
so in a way. I mean, look, I wish it
were better. I live with I wish we lived in
a in a world where there weren't thousands and thousands
of murders and serious crimes being committed and to.
Speaker 1 (01:42:23):
That's why burglars do it, because they know that I'm
getting tried.
Speaker 2 (01:42:25):
That that's a huge part of it, absolutely is that
there's going to be a very low rate of them
finding stolen cars or stolen properties, stolen property and chasing
all that down because in their mind, and they're probably
right for the most part, they got bigger fish to fry.
Speaker 3 (01:42:42):
Unfortunately, well and thanks for helping me out, I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (01:42:49):
So really the burglars get away with it for the
most part, well, they'd not give them up. They didn't
get caught. I just spent almost six hundred dollars getting
a window replaced, and my daughter's and everybody's a little
night trip to Galveston was basically ruined. Although they got
a freeze cheesecake at the restaurant they went to have steak,
so there was a small consolation. I mean, if actually
the cheesecake then went to free was five hundred and
(01:43:09):
seventy five dollars with the cheesecake. That's the way I
think of it.
Speaker 4 (01:43:13):
Oo.
Speaker 3 (01:43:15):
I mean, I'm sorry it happened to you. Man.
Speaker 1 (01:43:17):
Like when I go to the casino and I lose
like eight hundred bucks at the Black Tesch Cable and
I go like it was a hundred dollars Michael.
Speaker 3 (01:43:21):
Of Ultra, I've had some ETI one hundred dollars mers
for sure. It's not fun.
Speaker 2 (01:43:29):
No, Like, uh, you know, as the worst part and
you start looking up the nearest ATM on your phone,
that's the lea.
Speaker 1 (01:43:35):
Oh, oh, don't do that, ROSSI.
Speaker 2 (01:43:37):
I already know where the nearest ats. You know what's
really bad is I already know where the nearest Make
of America ATM is to the Circa Sports Circa casino.
Speaker 1 (01:43:48):
Yeah, we got to continue to work on that. By
the way, Oh, we'll be fine. I think we're good. Okay,
I think we're in good hands. By the way, I'm
proud of myself the amount of money I have paid
an ATM fees. What do we mean twenty twenty five?
I bet you in the last twenty five years of
my life, I have spent less than fifty dollars in
(01:44:09):
ATM fees.
Speaker 3 (01:44:10):
I'm proud of you, Matt. It sounds like you're not
going to enough strip clubs. That may be fair.
Speaker 1 (01:44:16):
Seven one three, two one two five seven on eight Jonathan.
Anything you don't get this week my man? Hmm, all right,
let you think about it when you when you go, hey,
I got one, then we'll go right to go. I'll
let you think about it. Let's go to Geo in
a Taska seed assass a seat at twelve forty Geo,
(01:44:39):
what don't you get my man?
Speaker 19 (01:44:41):
Okay, guys, first and foremost great shows?
Speaker 3 (01:44:44):
Thank you, guys, thank you.
Speaker 1 (01:44:46):
So I don't get this.
Speaker 19 (01:44:48):
So uh adel and they are from the UK?
Speaker 11 (01:44:52):
Are rank from that?
Speaker 4 (01:44:54):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:44:54):
Geo? You sound like you are calling us from a
ten can Okay.
Speaker 14 (01:44:59):
One say I'm sorry?
Speaker 18 (01:45:01):
All right?
Speaker 20 (01:45:02):
How's that?
Speaker 1 (01:45:02):
Oh? Much better? Much better?
Speaker 15 (01:45:04):
There we go, there we go.
Speaker 19 (01:45:06):
Okay, Now the question, So Dille the singer and Elton
John the singer they're from the UK?
Speaker 15 (01:45:11):
Correct?
Speaker 3 (01:45:14):
Yes, they're both. Yeah, Elton John is yes.
Speaker 19 (01:45:17):
Now they speak in their normal UK accent, but when
they sing they sing in an American accent.
Speaker 11 (01:45:24):
I don't get that.
Speaker 19 (01:45:25):
And the UK rappers like Central c and stuff like that.
They rap in their UK accent. So like, I don't
get why the rappers can rap in their UK accent,
but his singers they sing in an American accent. I
just don't get it.
Speaker 1 (01:45:40):
Ross, I have no reply to that.
Speaker 13 (01:45:42):
I can answer this.
Speaker 2 (01:45:43):
Okay, there we go, John, we go to our linguistic experts.
Speaker 13 (01:45:46):
That's the reason why is because just kind of simple,
it sounds you're not going to sell records singing in
a UK accent. And it's really hard to sing big
songs like a do does in that UK tonge, the
what you'r tonguing, how that you pronunciate the words and
those different bellels. That's why a lot of people go
to English to sing. It is easier on some of
these songs and like that that that's laying and talk.
Speaker 1 (01:46:12):
So he's going with ease, is what he's saying.
Speaker 2 (01:46:16):
It was going with selling records. Google says, just because
accident's flatten out when you sing.
Speaker 13 (01:46:27):
I mean, that's that's the part of it.
Speaker 3 (01:46:28):
Yes, Like when you hear adele.
Speaker 1 (01:46:34):
Uh, I couldn't tell that she's from Great Britain. When
I listened to the Beatles, I sell, they sell like
they're from Great.
Speaker 3 (01:46:41):
Britain depending on the song.
Speaker 1 (01:46:46):
I guess what about the Rollings Jones, they don't sound
like they're from No, no, uh do you think that.
Speaker 3 (01:46:55):
Freddy Mercury sounds America?
Speaker 1 (01:46:59):
Do you think Dion sounds French Canadian when she sings? No,
it is weird, isn't that? That's a that's a that
just I'll give you. I'll just don't get it. How
all of a sudden, no matter where you're from, you
get into this more American tone. Now, John Lennon had
a I thought, a pretty distinct British sound to his voice.
Speaker 13 (01:47:23):
What's the band Leonyard Skinyard or if you or the
one that died in the plane crash, the Leonard Skinner?
Speaker 9 (01:47:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 13 (01:47:30):
Yeah, yeah, they have the American accents as well when
they sing.
Speaker 3 (01:47:34):
Weren't Leonard skinnered? American? Yeah?
Speaker 13 (01:47:37):
Oh, I don't get it.
Speaker 1 (01:47:47):
Okay, we're getting there.
Speaker 3 (01:47:51):
Maybe a led Zeppelin.
Speaker 2 (01:47:52):
Nobody died in a plane crash at a led Zeppelin, though,
they just use one guy choked on his own vomit.
Speaker 1 (01:47:56):
Yeah, saw a Mama cass on a on a handbone.
Speaker 3 (01:47:59):
No, that was a ham bone or a ham sandwich.
Speaker 2 (01:48:02):
Matt John Bottom choked on the drummer, the greatest drummer
of all time. By the way, did we say Ammy Whinehouse, Oh,
Amy Whinehouse. She didn't really Yeah, see that she didn't
really sound British. She just sounded like she was shooting
up heroin and she was well may she rest? She
shout out twenty seven club.
Speaker 1 (01:48:22):
All right, we'll see one more forga. One more international
performer that sounds American when she he or she sings ding.
Speaker 3 (01:48:32):
Sting is British, isn't he?
Speaker 1 (01:48:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:48:34):
Sting is British.
Speaker 1 (01:48:36):
Oh how about uh what's his face?
Speaker 3 (01:48:40):
Uh do you uh?
Speaker 1 (01:48:43):
Eric Clampton? Mm hmmm. He sounds American.
Speaker 3 (01:48:47):
That's true.
Speaker 1 (01:48:49):
All right, we're done.
Speaker 3 (01:48:50):
Mike drop, Phil Collins, Oh good one. Wow.
Speaker 13 (01:48:57):
This is I just a good I just don't get
it because now, yes, the.
Speaker 3 (01:49:01):
Question is about rap. That's we couldn't give you answers to. Well,
I think it's yeah, that's maybe this is more talking
than singing. And I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:49:07):
Like I said, Google says, the accent that kind of
flattens out when when you sing, and the American accent
is as flat as it gets.
Speaker 1 (01:49:16):
It is flat. All right, James and Manuel and Gerard
we'll get to all of you coming back Ema a
Doka in fifteen minutes here on Sports Talk seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety All right,
(01:49:37):
here we go, final segment here of uh I just
don't get it. We've got em a Dooka coming up
in about eleven minutes here on Sports Talk seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven nine zero
seven one three two one two five seven ninety something
in your life you just don't get. We're here for you.
(01:49:58):
Let's talk to James and Kline. James, what don't you get?
Speaker 21 (01:50:01):
Yeah, with the expansions of the NBA and the UFL,
why don't they ever consider Austin has an expansion team.
It seems like that'd be an ideal place to start.
Speaker 3 (01:50:10):
To in what sport?
Speaker 21 (01:50:13):
Well, UFL would be great, I mean using rough next
to play Austin Steers or whatever you want to call them.
I mean even in the NBA the Rockets going over
to Austin to play would be good. I don't understand
why Austin's got a huge population and why they're none
never considered for our expansion.
Speaker 1 (01:50:29):
Team Honestly, I had not thought about that.
Speaker 18 (01:50:38):
You.
Speaker 1 (01:50:39):
First of all, the ufl is doesn't mean anything. I mean,
it just doesn't. And their ratings are horrific. The tenants
is terrible. It's just it's bad. It's not good. And
then where we're going with the other one oh three
teams in Texas. The NBA is plenty, and even though
(01:51:00):
Austin's population is growing, doesn't necessarily mean you want to
support from a corporate standpoint wise an NBA franchise. Look,
this is a it's a mood conversation. I just don't
I just don't get the Austin vibe to it.
Speaker 3 (01:51:14):
It is the I think, either first or second biggest
metro area in Yeah, the country without any major sport.
Speaker 1 (01:51:25):
Honestly, if Austin was gonna get a team, Rossie, don't
call me nuts what it wouldn't it be hockey? Be
the one that would go get it?
Speaker 3 (01:51:32):
Hockey?
Speaker 1 (01:51:32):
I don't know, I.
Speaker 3 (01:51:33):
Mean, you can't.
Speaker 1 (01:51:34):
You're too close to San Antonio, You're seventy seventy five
miles from sant anturnin that ain't happening. Baseball and not
enough people in the area. Okay, fotball, Yeah, there's second.
Speaker 2 (01:51:48):
So the Riverside San Bernardino, Ontario, California Metro Areas has
four point seven million.
Speaker 1 (01:51:53):
That's twelve, which is like super Super East LA is
what that is?
Speaker 2 (01:51:57):
Yeah, they have no major team, but I guess I
imagine that the LA teams are claimed there.
Speaker 1 (01:52:02):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (01:52:03):
So from there, Austin is twenty fifth bigger than Portland, Sacramento, Pittsburgh,
Las Vegas, Cincinnati, Kansas City, Columbus, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Nashville.
Speaker 1 (01:52:15):
By the way, the latest numbers are out. Do you
know that the Pittsburgh I know, if it's a media
market or just overall size, is twenty seventh in the country.
The Pirates Triple A team is in Indianapolis. They're twenty fifth.
They're They're minor league city is bigger than their.
Speaker 3 (01:52:29):
Major league city.
Speaker 1 (01:52:31):
Isn't that weird?
Speaker 3 (01:52:32):
It is?
Speaker 1 (01:52:34):
Yeah? I I nobody when I mean this, and I
love they're very nice people at the UFL, but nobody cares.
I just I they had an idea and they just
people just ross openly reject minor league football. They just do.
(01:52:55):
And I'm surprised that's one of those ones that are
like a nineteen ninety nine two thousand gut feeling I
would have had, hey mind, like spring football can work.
It just doesn't work.
Speaker 3 (01:53:05):
The product is so bad. It's just it's just a
terrible product.
Speaker 1 (01:53:09):
Because the uniforms look cool, they get plenty of media
attention on the networks, They the major production, lots of
good spots for it.
Speaker 3 (01:53:17):
I mean, there is decent marketing for it.
Speaker 1 (01:53:19):
People don't like it.
Speaker 3 (01:53:20):
When you watch you go.
Speaker 1 (01:53:21):
Jesus is terrible? Uh, Manuel, Manuel, what don't you get?
Speaker 3 (01:53:29):
Okay?
Speaker 9 (01:53:29):
Real quick?
Speaker 14 (01:53:31):
Why your uh your accent changes when you're seeing this
because you're using a different part of your voice box.
You're you're building up octaves, are going down octaves, You're
getting different notes, so your accent tends to stay it
out over over time. And when you're rapping, of course,
you're just using your regular voice and you've got to
skill the rap. So that's why his accent still stays
when you wrap. Okay, But yeah, what uh what I
(01:53:55):
don't get is, uh, well, what's all this affable rock fans?
I'm hearing that you're saying that guide you are hoping
people get in the stands, and they're they're not selling
their their tickets to Warrior fans. I mean, come on, guys,
I want that place filled up. I want them to
fill up the whole brunt of Red Nation. Man, we
(01:54:16):
got to be there. I don't want nobody selling tickets
and seeing a bunch of Warrior fans there and fake
Warrior fans and just wearing Curry jerseys. And it's time
to just you know, it's just time to pay them
all back to you know, we got enough of them
back to when we had hearten and I'm just I'm tired.
I don't get why people would want to sell their
stuff and not want to support the team. They've been
(01:54:37):
waiting this long for the team to be good, and
finally we're here, the rebuild done. So come on, man,
they should get there, get there early, sell it out,
and just represent no matter what happens.
Speaker 1 (01:54:48):
Thanks. There you go. We're gonna have lots of We're
gonna have I wouldn't. We're not gonna have Dubb Nation
ross in the building. We're going to have Curry Nation
in the building. A lot of it.
Speaker 2 (01:55:02):
Yeah, not a lot of Brandon Perjimski jerseys.
Speaker 1 (01:55:06):
You're saying there'll be very little Moses Moody Nation in.
Speaker 2 (01:55:09):
There, Okay, well, we'll see.
Speaker 1 (01:55:15):
I can't imagine a lot of Gary Payton the second
Gear bumping around to Tote Center on Sunday Night. Chris
Jersey Village, Chris, what don't you get?
Speaker 20 (01:55:25):
Yeah, I don't get why here on this station and
other places that the Rockets don't have a superstar.
Speaker 1 (01:55:32):
They do have a superstar. His name is Aman Thompson.
Speaker 20 (01:55:35):
He may not score a whole bunch of points, but
he does everything else really, really well. So I'm sick
and tired of hearing that the Rockets don't have a
superstar when they clearly do, and whoever says they don't
they need to shut their bumb.
Speaker 3 (01:55:48):
Ass up by a Hi, my name is Ross. They
don't have a superstar.
Speaker 1 (01:55:51):
Men.
Speaker 2 (01:55:51):
Thompson is a very good player. He's been in zero
all All Star teams.
Speaker 3 (01:55:55):
He's been in zero all NBA teams, and hopefully he
will be as his career goes along.
Speaker 2 (01:56:00):
But superstar means top ten to fifteen player in the
league and all over advertisements and globally known, and men
Thompson is not that.
Speaker 3 (01:56:07):
I'm sorry. Hopefully next year is in that spot.
Speaker 1 (01:56:11):
That'd be great.
Speaker 2 (01:56:12):
He's very affable, good interview, fun hilarious.
Speaker 3 (01:56:17):
He's not a superstar. Let's not be stupid.
Speaker 1 (01:56:22):
Yeah, I'm a I am, I'm a ridiculously big feom
man huge.
Speaker 3 (01:56:32):
Can I get an um man?
Speaker 1 (01:56:34):
No, we don't do that on this show. But I
cannot brag about how awesome Amn Thompson is over and
over and over and over and over again.
Speaker 3 (01:56:44):
But the reality is, if you're looking.
Speaker 1 (01:56:46):
At superstar, think what a superstar defense definition is?
Speaker 3 (01:56:53):
I mean, and a man would be the first tell you. Look,
I'll get there.
Speaker 1 (01:56:58):
We've got work to do, and hopefully it starts this
weekend before we get to Emay.
Speaker 3 (01:57:04):
Oh, nice little here, our buddy Ji.
Speaker 1 (01:57:06):
Rod Rod Good, afternoon, twelve fifty seven, Sports Talk seven
ninety How the hell are you?
Speaker 11 (01:57:13):
I'm not all right?
Speaker 9 (01:57:14):
Man?
Speaker 11 (01:57:14):
How you doing good?
Speaker 9 (01:57:16):
All right?
Speaker 14 (01:57:17):
Going?
Speaker 3 (01:57:17):
Ross? Great? I'm glad you asked about Ross.
Speaker 11 (01:57:21):
About the Rockets, man, I know you both. Y'all y'all
taking the Rockets, and how many games y'all taking the
Rockets in this series? Four three is gonna go to state.
Speaker 1 (01:57:28):
Hoode four go Rockets in four three.
Speaker 2 (01:57:32):
They're gonna win by forty points in the first three games,
and the Warriors are gonna quit.
Speaker 11 (01:57:37):
Okay, Okay, Okay, yeah, I do. I do believe the
winner this series is gonna be in the Western Conference
Finals playing in Oklahoma City. I do agree with that,
but I think it's gonna be a long series. Both
of these teams are great defensive teams. I think the
Rockets have the advantage in side they shoot, be able
to pound them with the on the boards. That's gonna
be a key. I think the number one matchup is
(01:57:57):
gonna be a dealing Brooks against Jimmy Butler man because
Butler has shown in the playoffs he takes his game
to another level. So they're gonna need to get dialing
on him to kind of slow him down. He's gonna
put up numbers, but he can't put up the numbers
like he did when they went on that run from
the playing and went to the NBA Finals when he's
with the heat. So if a Dylan Brusk can kind
of slow him down, you put a mean thompsin on
(01:58:17):
Steph Curry. They don't fight through them picks and try
to bother. Steph Curry shot with his lift and that
left and I think Pozzi is gonna be a key
guy to try to slow down too. Because he played
well against the Rockets in the regular season, So maybe
we see a little bit of Aaron Holliday Jalen Green
kind of pay a little bit more attention. They try
to cut his effectiveness down.
Speaker 1 (01:58:35):
All right, it looks like he mad Dog is still
practicing with the uh Rockets right now. Yeah, there, they're
still practicing.
Speaker 3 (01:58:47):
So huh.
Speaker 1 (01:58:49):
I'm just getting word that he is still practicing. Uh
so we will have to push that back a little bit. So, uh,
welcome to the final Ane the Show. Hello man. Yeah,
I'm just I'm getting him trying to respond to fifteen
people texting me.
Speaker 3 (01:59:05):
I'm at practice, he's practicing.
Speaker 1 (01:59:07):
I'm like, okay, we get it.
Speaker 3 (01:59:07):
I get it. To get to get so Roster come
to entertain the people.
Speaker 1 (01:59:11):
For a while here.
Speaker 3 (01:59:11):
Okay, we can handle it.
Speaker 1 (01:59:13):
We can do that. We're gonna Brian McTaggert replay coming
up in a few minutes. I'm going to assume that's
gonna be maybe we'll get closer to one thirty on email,
but we'll hopefully have that coming up here in just
a little bit. Hey, we've got to call out a
certain suburb of our town.
Speaker 3 (01:59:31):
We do.
Speaker 1 (01:59:32):
It's not a call out.
Speaker 3 (01:59:33):
It's more like a you've been warned, Tomball, it's time.
Speaker 1 (01:59:39):
For you to just associate yourself with Jimmy Butler.
Speaker 3 (01:59:44):
Wait he's from tumble No way, yes he is?
Speaker 1 (01:59:54):
What what what.
Speaker 2 (01:59:58):
Tombull textas his Ownjimmy Butler not Houston. By the way,
he doesn't claim Houston claim.
Speaker 1 (02:00:05):
He never claims Houston under any circus.
Speaker 3 (02:00:07):
I mean he's right, people call it.
Speaker 2 (02:00:09):
And when people you meet somebody somewhere else and they're like, yeah,
from Houston, You're like, oh yeah, well part like Tomball,
You're like, oh, come.
Speaker 1 (02:00:14):
On, do we even as Houstonians claimed Tomball?
Speaker 3 (02:00:18):
I don't know, love all your great folks out of Tomball,
But let's play. Let's play a game called do we
as Houston to claim this part of town? Ready?
Speaker 1 (02:00:26):
Woodlands?
Speaker 3 (02:00:27):
Sure, Kai, it's it's not Houston either, Katie. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:00:35):
But rather than explaining it to everyone, you just say Houston.
So I get that, Okay, But I'm just saying what
we're gonna run through a few more here, Okay.
Speaker 3 (02:00:44):
Jersey Village, sure, yeah, I would say that's in town.
Speaker 1 (02:00:47):
Proland Yeah No, yeah, no Baytown No, I mean.
Speaker 3 (02:00:57):
Bay Ten Your love, Erry Houston, You're all Houston area.
Speaker 1 (02:01:00):
Yes, including you, Matt King. What is not Houston up
in there?
Speaker 3 (02:01:06):
You were in the deep in the piny woods.
Speaker 1 (02:01:08):
Guess what I got? My man address is Houston, Texas.
Speaker 3 (02:01:12):
Okay, guess what your commute says. Your commute says it
takes you an hour and a half to get here.
Speaker 1 (02:01:16):
My commute says, utter hell.
Speaker 2 (02:01:18):
If it takes you hour and a half to get
from one point A to point B, point a is
not in Houston.
Speaker 1 (02:01:23):
Hey, we're just a sprawl. We're a sprawling metropolis.
Speaker 3 (02:01:26):
Sports you're in the suburbs, that's okay. Yeah, But there's
a lot of different cities.
Speaker 1 (02:01:34):
For instance, let's see, uh, steph, your friends in Long Beach.
Where do your friends saying they are from They say
they're from LA.
Speaker 2 (02:01:44):
No, they normally say Long Beach, but Long Beach is
technically LA. It's like saying bel Air is not Houston.
It's it would be the same thing.
Speaker 1 (02:01:51):
I don't know. I've been to Long Beach plenty of time,
and then around the corner from downtown l A Long
Beach to down from Long Beach to from downtown in
LA has got to be an hour.
Speaker 13 (02:02:01):
It's close, it's close to that that's traffic.
Speaker 3 (02:02:03):
How many's just over there?
Speaker 2 (02:02:06):
Yeah, it's it's thirty nine minutes twenty four miles too.
I just put in downtown Los Angeles.
Speaker 1 (02:02:13):
Okay, Now, I'll say this. The only exception I think
that that is if you say where you're from Orange County.
I don't think you can be from LA and Orange
County at the same time. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (02:02:26):
I'm like, I'm a county map of California out right now.
Speaker 13 (02:02:30):
Well, like people in Crenshall only claim ConTroll and in
Inglewood names Inglewood and stuff like that, they don't even
claim their own big city that because they're.
Speaker 3 (02:02:38):
Busy fighting each other. Inglewood is something else that they
got that.
Speaker 1 (02:02:44):
They get the Sofi Stadium, you have the arena, you
get the Hollywood Park casino. It's it's quite a sprawl
metropolis over there.
Speaker 3 (02:02:51):
Well, wise man once said, Inglewood is always up to
no good.
Speaker 1 (02:02:54):
And you got forty eight drive through hamburger joints.
Speaker 3 (02:02:57):
That sounds great.
Speaker 1 (02:02:58):
I'm telling you.
Speaker 3 (02:02:59):
You guess some fat burger.
Speaker 1 (02:03:01):
Oh my god. So we did the game against the
Clippers last week and I'm like, you know, you work
the NBA life, you want to eat at ten thirty
at night. You've got no reason to, You've done nothing
to earn the energy for it. But you getting that.
You're getting your bus and you get back to the
hotel and you're like, oh my god, we could have
stopped off in Inglewood. Fat Burger, justin Burger del Taco
(02:03:26):
with the burger, with the tacos and the crinkly cut
fries you have in and out you got jack in
the box. I mean, you could gain twenty pounds going
from the arena to every one of the uh the
fast foods in Inglewood itself. I'm just hungry thinking about
it right now? Yeah? Are you hungry? Right now?
Speaker 3 (02:03:46):
What's going on?
Speaker 1 (02:03:47):
I'm starving? I having nothing beat all day?
Speaker 3 (02:03:49):
That makes a lot of sense, actually, I know.
Speaker 1 (02:03:52):
All right? So uh emaduc is gonna join us here?
Speaker 3 (02:03:55):
Sure today? Where tomorrow?
Speaker 1 (02:03:58):
I mean, look, what's you doing? More?
Speaker 3 (02:04:00):
Are we getting tomorrow?
Speaker 1 (02:04:01):
I'm just looking. I mean I sent him a text,
I said, do you want to do todor or do
you want to do yesterday or today? And he's like,
let's take a look here. What I keep his tweets
because he's like, Matt, wish you the very best, hope
you're feeling. I said, are you available Thursday or Friday?
At one o'clock? He says, Thursday works. I said, well
textion in the morning. He says, thanks calling you one o'clock.
Speaker 13 (02:04:19):
Thanks, as it means they're getting the work in that
you should be happy, you know.
Speaker 1 (02:04:22):
What they were. He's so, he is so upset about
the fact that all these national media pundits are picking
the warriors with their rockets. He's like, I'm gonna I'm
worth these guys hard. Let's talk to Dave in Spring
at one eleven on seven Y Dave, Good afternoon to you, Hey.
Speaker 4 (02:04:43):
Matt, hey Ross.
Speaker 9 (02:04:44):
Enjoy the show as always.
Speaker 7 (02:04:45):
I want to run a conspiracy there carry buy you
guys real quick, see what you think. I called another
radio station the other day and they kind of listened
to me and then started making fun of me after
I hung up.
Speaker 1 (02:04:55):
So now, David, first of all, we love you, we
love you, but if it's a terrible it was terrible,
we're gonna make fun of you.
Speaker 7 (02:05:03):
That's okay, what's you thing?
Speaker 3 (02:05:06):
All right?
Speaker 7 (02:05:06):
And first of all, to set it up, you know
you have to remember, give you some context. Remember when
Jim Crane bought the Astros. They were in the National League,
and there was a lot of talk that Major League
Baseball said yes to Jim Crane, but the condition was
he would agree to move the team from the National
League to the American League. So it was kind of
conditioned on the purchase. Was there was a lot of
(02:05:28):
Astro fans, they had the National League history. They didn't
like the idea of moving to the American League. But
Jim Crane, if you want to buy the team, that
was what he had to do. So now let's look
at the the Luca Anthony Davis trade. Okay, and again
conspiracy theory. Guy, I'm looking at this, I'm thinking it's
very odd. Everyone says the dumbest trade ever made, So
you know, I mean, and they're talking about Nico Harris
(02:05:48):
being so dumb and Rob Polinka being so smart. And
what I'm going to suggest is that those guys had
nothing to do with this, That this decision was made
much higher up.
Speaker 4 (02:05:56):
The food chain. And here's why Lakers are. They're a
critical franchise. Know that the Yankees of the NBA, and
so it's important that they stay good. Well, their best
player is aging out Lebron so they needed another Superstar
out in La So Maverick for being sold to the
Addleson group, which they owned casinos and everything else. I
(02:06:18):
don't think they're that interested in the basketball. I think
they're more interested in the gambling part and expanding their
reach into sports gambling.
Speaker 7 (02:06:25):
So the league goes to the Addleson and said, we'll
approve this sale on the condition that you push through
a trade Luka Doncic to the west coast of the Lakers,
and you have to say yes to that, and then
we'll approve this sale. And you again, I think everyone's
focused on Nico, so dumb, rob, so smart. I don't
(02:06:46):
think they had anything.
Speaker 3 (02:06:47):
To do with it. I think it was way up
the line.
Speaker 7 (02:06:49):
So just my theory.
Speaker 4 (02:06:51):
I want to see what you guys think of it.
Speaker 7 (02:06:52):
Go ahead and makes fun of me whatever you.
Speaker 3 (02:06:54):
Want to do.
Speaker 1 (02:06:55):
Well, you're very eloquent in your conversation. I don't buy
a minute of it, though I have my I'm gonna
just give it to you in a real dumb down way.
I think the Mavericks were tired of telling Nico or
telling Luca to get into shape, and they did not
want to spend crazy money on a guy they worried
(02:07:15):
about it was going to have an history of injury
issues for the foreseeable future. If they're gonna pay the
guy seventy five million dollars a year, and if you
really wanted to believe this, that you believe that Luca
wasn't worth it, at least open it up. That everybody
got a shot and you got a great rate of return.
Not only did you trade him, but you got Jack
(02:07:35):
squat back Ross quickly thirty seconds. Agreed, disagree? What do
you want to add to it?
Speaker 2 (02:07:39):
I don't think there's a conspiracy now. I think Nico
is just incompetent and overvels Anthony Anthony Davis.
Speaker 3 (02:07:47):
Yeah, all right, Brian mctagger, conversation up next.
Speaker 1 (02:07:50):
Then hopefully you may after that Ross, let's get some
folks from taking care of when it comes to their taxes.
I would say, don't listen to that. Seriously, dub Dynasty podcast. Now,
I'm good. We have nine million great podcasts listen to you.
That ain't the one you want to listen to.
Speaker 3 (02:08:09):
Is there an episode on Draymond Green kicking every one
of the nuts and ranking them in the eyes?
Speaker 1 (02:08:14):
How about we do an episode called The National's greatest
road team of the twenty nineteen season. Seriously, what are
we doing here? No, I'm good.
Speaker 3 (02:08:26):
Eighty six Mets Team of Destiny and catch that one too.
Speaker 1 (02:08:31):
Podcast for Houston listeners Frank Raight the great fourth quarter comeback.
Speaker 3 (02:08:37):
Yeah, maybe they want to erase that one in the
Houston market.
Speaker 1 (02:08:40):
I mean, man, we are so tone deaf for us.
I mean everybody's tone deaf. And look, we didn't promote
these things. They're given to us by our parents.
Speaker 3 (02:08:48):
It's national. Yes, it's not our fault. Now those are
running in uh boy, Gainesville, Florida.
Speaker 1 (02:08:57):
Yes, right, people in Dayton, Ohio hearing the same thing.
You get this, Oh it's coach all right, let's go
uh on Sports Talk seven ninety. I am I'm gonna
tell you right now. I'm gonna repeat this again. Do
not listen to the dubbed Nation podcast. I have zero
(02:09:18):
interest in that. Whatsoever? We got like a five million podcast.
Listen to music, Listen to a jazz podcast or something
like that. Don't listen to that thing. Let's uh, literally
off the practice court the Sahias for a few minutes.
Is the head coach of the Houston Rockets, Ema A.
Doka emy, it's Matt and Ross. Thanks for coming on.
How was practice today?
Speaker 9 (02:09:38):
It was good. It was very eventful and lively. Guys.
Speaker 22 (02:09:42):
They're getting after it the last few days. Happy to
be back on the court after a few days of
rest and looking forward to the series.
Speaker 1 (02:09:49):
All right, lively and eventful, meaning that am I getting
elbows throwing at each other, anybody fighting with each other?
Just all competitive spirited practice.
Speaker 22 (02:09:57):
Competitive spirit overall, like we always especially when we go
out of each other. But I think we got a
little liver shot from Fred.
Speaker 9 (02:10:05):
Other than that, We're good.
Speaker 3 (02:10:08):
Somebody protecting you too. I don't need you down. I
was down last week. I don't I need you ready
to go for this week.
Speaker 9 (02:10:14):
I'm good. I'm good with the kids out there, all.
Speaker 1 (02:10:17):
Right, I got you. Hey, Have you had that quote
unquote talk yet about life's about to change for you
boys in the next handful of days playing the same
opponent at least four times, maybe as many as seven.
Speaker 22 (02:10:30):
I mean, we talked about the playoffs and the experience
for the guys for the first time, and you know
how it's a privilege to be playing at this time
of year. So half of our guys have been there
obviously the young guys haven't. But what we're trying to
do is overall simplify and keep it simple, keep it basketball,
and talk about what we do and how it carries
it well into the playoffs, and so not make it
(02:10:53):
more than it is.
Speaker 9 (02:10:54):
It is an opponent we'll see multiple times, but our.
Speaker 22 (02:10:57):
Guys have played in high pressure situations throughout this ear
oft times and we'll be prepared for that. But like
I said, keeping it simple, keeping a basketball and not
trying to overthink.
Speaker 3 (02:11:06):
It through the kitchen sink.
Speaker 1 (02:11:08):
Defensively, at Steph Curry went one for ten, we could
go Saturday against Golden State? How much of that was
spent looking at that film, viving the memory of the
guy's minds and what can you do beyond just the
fact just irritating best you, candid to replicate that.
Speaker 22 (02:11:25):
Well, understanding that it's not a one on one thing.
It's a full team defensive scheme. When you have four
guys on their team hunting shots for him, you have
to have four or five on your team preventing those shots.
Speaker 9 (02:11:37):
So it's not just one guy.
Speaker 22 (02:11:38):
Denying him, being all over him, taking away pick and
roll and all those things, especially with all the off
ball screens as everybody being on the same page, the
communication being great, and when we're doing that, we're in
good shape. When he gets off the ball, relocates and
guys get cast standing, you know, he gets those he's
gets those relocation threes and a lot of like I said,
they're all hunting shots for him. And so we have
(02:11:59):
to be on point. And that's what we were in
that game. So I have to duplicate that effort.
Speaker 2 (02:12:03):
What is it like for you as a coach and
with the staff as well, just preparing for this one
opponent going into game one, as far as adjustments that
could happen as well, maybe not even wanting to overprepare,
not wanting to underprepare.
Speaker 3 (02:12:18):
What is that like for you?
Speaker 9 (02:12:20):
Well, it's busier at this time.
Speaker 22 (02:12:21):
Yeah, of course you have all these days to prepare
for one opponent, multiple games, like you said, and so
where during the season you play one team and you're
on to the next and you know you're not going
as in depth. You have to do that here, take
away certain actions, take away certain personnel, and you can
dig much deeper into that. And so for us it's
great to have the time. Obviously we earned it to
(02:12:44):
not be in the play in to have these days
of rest in preparation, and now it's our chance to
get out there and execute.
Speaker 9 (02:12:49):
But for us, especially.
Speaker 22 (02:12:51):
Against the team like going State that does a lot
of different things, especially with their off ball actions, we
have to be on point, like I said, with our
communication and coverage, and when we do that, we're going
to shape. We showed that throughout the year in our
meetings with them, holding him to low points. I think
Curry averaged sixteen against this overall in those games, So
we've done a pretty good job on him, but understanding
that others are there as well, and Butler's added to
(02:13:11):
the picture. We've only played against him once this year,
so that'll be a newer challenge.
Speaker 2 (02:13:15):
Yeah, you mentioned Butler getting added to the picture. So
they've obviously been a very good team twenty three and
seven with him in the lineup. What does he do
and what does he bring to the table that makes
him so much better?
Speaker 22 (02:13:28):
Well, another facilitator that you know, can obviously take some
of the pressure off of Curry. He's the isolation guy,
which they didn't have much of without without Curry and
some you know, losing Wiggins and some of those guys.
And so a guy that can create his own shot
obviously brings a defensive mentality and you've seen seen the
numbers as far as that with him in the lineup.
But the main thing is that you know, a one
(02:13:49):
A one B batman, Robin whatever you want to call it,
another guy that can create his own shot, command double teams,
and he's a really good facilitator.
Speaker 9 (02:13:57):
So it's not just Draymond Green getting guys involved.
Speaker 22 (02:13:59):
He's looking looking to pass the ball as well or
create for himself.
Speaker 1 (02:14:04):
I may we were there last week Draymond tried to
poke the bear that was Aupura and shing Gun basically
just praying for a technical foul, got one that's going
to be in play again.
Speaker 3 (02:14:15):
Uh how much did APPI.
Speaker 1 (02:14:18):
Learn from that experience? Know that more that it's coming.
Speaker 9 (02:14:22):
I would say we already knew.
Speaker 22 (02:14:23):
We talked about personal and personnel in depth during the season.
So certain guys, you know, bringing that edge and toughness
and physicality, and we'll talk as well. And so Green
has been one of the best at that and that's what.
Speaker 9 (02:14:35):
He brings for his team. Uh.
Speaker 22 (02:14:38):
And so for Alpi is just keeping his composure, you know,
not backing down from challenge, but also going at it
and then when the chippyiness happens, just continue to play
through it. And so he did an excellent job of that.
Of course, the end of that half was a lot
of back and forth. That last minute felt like it
took five or so, with all the fouls and re
looking at looking at the reviews and all the all
(02:14:58):
those things. And so for us as a keep our composer,
continue to play. We play a physical brand as well,
so we know where it can get to. But especially
in the playoffs, it's too important to have guys kicked
out of games, and so you have to keep composer
and play through everything.
Speaker 1 (02:15:11):
So many folks, he may have discussed the double big lineup.
You've thrown it there with Adams and with Shnghun out
there together. Of all the teams, you wouldn't normally play
a lot of that. It would be against Golden State.
So I've asked you this once before, and it's worthy
you's certainly come playoff time. How much do you want
to dictate that? How much do you want to surprise
them by that? And how much are you're going to
see what they do? And whether or not you can
(02:15:34):
go without that double big lineup and when to use
it in spots during the course of the series.
Speaker 22 (02:15:40):
I mean, for us, it's something that works very well.
It's you know, you can see it on the court,
the numbers show it as well. But that team has
been very successful out there, and so we won't go
away from that. Of course, we'll use the things that
have worked for us throughout the season, and so we
can do that. Obviously, run some different things stematically defensively
to hide certain massups and lineups, but it's something you
(02:16:01):
definitely want to take advantage of it. But it's not
just a piece of it. Obviously, in the last Goo
and State game alone, we went with a double big.
We went traditional to start and then we went small
ball with Jabari at the five and a bunch of
athletic long wings out there. And so the versatility that
we have is just another piece of it and keeps
teams off Dard I think keeps teams out of rhythm.
Speaker 9 (02:16:19):
You ad the zone in there.
Speaker 22 (02:16:20):
And some of the things we do offensively with attacking
up glass, it gives people problems and so definitely something
we'll use and continue to go to.
Speaker 2 (02:16:28):
And what is that like, especially when you're talking about
rotations and things you're trying to do, is in the
playoffs and in a regular season, if you try something
it doesn't work out, okay, you move on. In the playoffs,
I mean, you can only lose four games in a
series and you're out so kind of trying to figure
out a sample size of something and trying to decide
when something's working or when to go elsewhere, whether it
(02:16:49):
be rotations or things you're trying to do offensively or defensively.
Speaker 22 (02:16:53):
Yeah, I mean you have to see what, like I said,
what worked well during the season, and then understanding certain
lineups that you'd like to kind of deployed against. But
at the same time, you still have to make adjustments
end game. And that's what the playoffs is about, seeing
what works well, scrapping something if it doesn't, but also
imposing your will. If we're a team that plays big
and they play a lot of small, somebody's gonna have
(02:17:14):
an advantage and it's up to us to defend certain actions
well but also punish them on the other end.
Speaker 9 (02:17:19):
And so we'll look at that.
Speaker 22 (02:17:21):
Like I said, we can always put up play the
zone like we've done at times with that double big lineup,
but we have some things we can go to, and
I think if you're punishing them to the extent, they
go back with their big lineups and it kind of
works in your favor.
Speaker 1 (02:17:33):
Last question, he may do you like the way the
schedule lays out a couple of days in off in
between games one and two or do you like to
get them kind of every other day if you could.
Speaker 22 (02:17:42):
Yeah, for us, I think it doesn't matter. I think
the rest is always a good thing. Maybe you'd like
to play them against an older team, you know, more frequent.
Speaker 9 (02:17:50):
But we've had this time off and we're ready.
Speaker 22 (02:17:52):
To get back after it, especially with resting the team,
resting the guys in LA on the Clipper Laker game
and so got a little bit of a half or
three quarters three runs in against Denver, and our guys
are getting after now and ready to get into another series.
So it really doesn't matter us the chance for adjustments,
You have a little bit more time for preparation in
between games if something doesn't work well, and so either
or it's fine with us, but you'll get to one
(02:18:14):
day off in between pretty soon.
Speaker 1 (02:18:16):
Really appreciate the visit tonight, and congratulations on a fantastic season.
Look forward to get catch up with Atty on Sunday,
and good luck in Game one against the Warriors.
Speaker 3 (02:18:23):
Thank you, you got it.
Speaker 1 (02:18:24):
Im Adoka with us here on the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross. Brian McTaggart's visit is up next here on
Sports Talk seven nine eighty and we appreciate you may
jumping literally off the practice scurt to join us here
on the radio show. Earlier today we talked to Brian
McTaggart and this seesaw ride continues here.
Speaker 3 (02:18:45):
Yeah. I mean, if we can want to be glass
half full on this is that the bats. The bats
are gonna be better. How much better? Again, we that's
the question that remains to be seen.
Speaker 2 (02:18:56):
They will be better, and the pitching has been good
as it is, and the division continues to be So
you're three games back, you're eight and ten.
Speaker 3 (02:19:02):
That's fine.
Speaker 2 (02:19:03):
The Rangers are the best team in the American League
West right now. I think that was a lot of
people's preseason pick. But if you can just get this together,
you just got to focus on the division. It's kind
of like last year where you won eighty eight games.
Not the best season in the history of the world.
But you want to win to your division. Priority one
is to get into the playoffs. Hopefully now with these
(02:19:23):
three wild cards, you're not ending up as the third seed,
so you can be one of the ones that end
up with the buye in the first round. But win
the division, get in the playoffs, and then anything can
happen in baseball, even if maybe you're going to be
dogs to certain teams who are in the American League
and performing a little bit better right now.
Speaker 1 (02:19:40):
Yeah, I mean, the reality is they're not an elite
team in the American League that we shouldn't be talking
about who they be playing in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (02:19:46):
It should be about just the first.
Speaker 1 (02:19:47):
And foremost that is building some sort of consistency, and
right now the Astros just doing well.
Speaker 3 (02:19:52):
They're consistent in a way.
Speaker 1 (02:19:55):
It is. It is woefully It's willfully consistent, is what
it is. It's like, who are you. Are you gonna
gain five pounds, You're gonna lose five pounds?
Speaker 3 (02:20:06):
Mmmm?
Speaker 2 (02:20:07):
Well, they do them both. You're saying that they're the
Luther Vandross of baseball. Is what you're saying.
Speaker 1 (02:20:14):
Is is he the poster child for weight fluctuation.
Speaker 3 (02:20:17):
I would say, here, oprah uh, Christy Alley before she passed,
rest well may rests as well. Yeah, yeah, the old,
the old, the I think it's actually really bad for
the heart, I believe. Oh, I would think so.
Speaker 1 (02:20:32):
Yeah, if you're gonna go go right one way, stay
with one way.
Speaker 3 (02:20:35):
He'd be nice.
Speaker 1 (02:20:36):
Who is today's weight fluctuator of the world. I don't know.
Adele's lost a lot of weight.
Speaker 3 (02:20:43):
That's true, she's keeping it off. Charles Barkley's gone up
and down.
Speaker 2 (02:20:46):
Well, the kids these days got the got the Olympic
njaros and whatnot.
Speaker 1 (02:20:51):
In the Monte Geralds. They're they're doing right well for themselves. Oh,
he did say that we're gonna see Lance mccollors pitch
this weekend in Middland. Boy, He's like, can I go
anywhere else? Is there? Literally? Any other? Is there?
Speaker 3 (02:21:11):
Like a seven A team?
Speaker 1 (02:21:13):
I can go pitch for them, maybe plays games, and like,
I don't know, sci Fair, Maybe you gotta go to Midland,
Texas to pitch.
Speaker 9 (02:21:23):
Now.
Speaker 1 (02:21:23):
I bet the weather's not terrible out there, Wendy. It's
gonna probably affect his Where do you fly in to
get to Midland? Midland.
Speaker 3 (02:21:31):
Oh how's that airport? How many flights a day are
going out there?
Speaker 1 (02:21:34):
Well, you gotta remember the Space Cowboys. My guess is
they do they drive that one?
Speaker 3 (02:21:39):
M uh alanspic Coulor should get everybody flights.
Speaker 1 (02:21:45):
Well, you remember when we teased last year about how
uh oh in the text, when uh when Verlander pitch
for the Double A team. I know at Double A
they don't they don't fly anywhere, but I knew he
had to have flown there. My guess is they probably
fly to Midland. I mean it's so well, it.
Speaker 3 (02:22:00):
Looks like there's a lot of flights. I guess for
the oil and gas folks.
Speaker 1 (02:22:03):
Oh yeah, very busy airport. Actually yeah, they probably flighted
Dark Breast.
Speaker 3 (02:22:09):
So all right, well, Anthony's in the A group.
Speaker 1 (02:22:14):
Can I tell you real quick? I flew Dark Breast
this weekend home. I got C forty. How did you
do that?
Speaker 3 (02:22:24):
We bought the ticket late and so did you like
a punch of airline attended? Put you in C forty?
Speaker 1 (02:22:31):
So I bought the A. I bought the A group.
Speaker 3 (02:22:33):
Okay, well how much it cost you?
Speaker 1 (02:22:34):
You want to take it?
Speaker 3 (02:22:35):
I'll give you a range. Okay, they say five dollars
either way. I mean it varies from flights.
Speaker 2 (02:22:40):
They always say as for as little as fifteen, and
it's never fifteenth.
Speaker 1 (02:22:43):
It was La Houston.
Speaker 3 (02:22:44):
It was NonStop, thirty dollars seventy dollars woo, and it
was well worth it.
Speaker 1 (02:22:50):
I got exit row window, I put my head back,
and I slept the entire way. Did not And if
they had to wake me up during the exit row conversation.
Speaker 3 (02:22:58):
No, I'll be fine, dude. See forty is the back
row in the middle. I'll take a seventy bucks.
Speaker 1 (02:23:04):
Bathroom where people snore and make strained sounds in the bathroom.
Speaker 3 (02:23:09):
Seventy Bucks. It's a nice bottle of bourbon. Matt's in
the middle, all right, believe it or not.
Speaker 1 (02:23:13):

tomorrow's fantasy vive building a Master's dinner for ourselves if
we were on the Masters?
Speaker 3 (02:23:52):
Well, like a meal?
Speaker 1 (02:23:53):
Yeah, who has the better meal?
Speaker 3 (02:23:57):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (02:23:59):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (02:24:00):
Two apps, main dish, main side dessert. Okay you okay
with that? Or no, I'm just gonna have Fuzzy Zeller
step in for me.
Speaker 1 (02:24:13):
I don't. I don't know if that's what you want
to be.
Speaker 3 (02:24:18):
I guess you could you want Fuzzy doing it? Probably not? Uh?
Oh okay. It's like building a Thanksgiving meal, but different.
Speaker 1 (02:24:30):
Yeah, because when you when you win the Masters, you
get the next year, you get to choose.
Speaker 2 (02:24:33):
What you want, right, so's yours is gonna be the
McRib followed by a fileo fish and with gas station
nachos as the as the appetizer.
Speaker 1 (02:24:46):
And one of those missus Barts pies for dessert.
Speaker 3 (02:24:48):
That's actually not bad.
Speaker 1 (02:24:51):
I thought of this is because somebody, uh, this year's winner,
the last year's winner put vanilla bean ice cream on
top of his cop But I'm like, you know what,
that's a good man right there.
Speaker 3 (02:24:59):
That does sound good.
Speaker 1 (02:25:02):
Ben Leabean.
Speaker 3 (02:25:03):
We have like an official list of what they get to.
Speaker 1 (02:25:05):
Choose anything you want, literally, anything you want.
Speaker 3 (02:25:09):
Yeah, but how many.
Speaker 1 (02:25:10):
Courses it's it's I think it's five course. I think
it's like you could do a salad and an advertiser,
but we don't.
Speaker 3 (02:25:15):
Sally, anybody got time for that the masters.
Speaker 1 (02:25:19):

aside and a dessert. You in okay, I'm looking at
Scottie Scheffler's looks like you get three apps, first course,
main course and then dessert.

bit here, okay, because it's a Fantasy five, five minutes

Speaker 3 (02:25:49):

of it. Look at that what is this what you said?
Four people drop literally sign me up for these? Does
it say what section they're in?
Speaker 3 (02:26:55):

Speaker 1 (02:26:59):
