Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross ten O
one and ain'ts Town. Good morning and welcome do a
Tuesday edition of The Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
This is Sports Talk seven, Udie.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
Here it comes, and that is pulled and passed a
sliding walker in the right field over toward the warning track.
Bella on his way to third. He's around third and
coming home. They relay to the plate, not in time.
Bell scores standing up and the Nationals on Nathaniel Lowe's
RBI double, tie the game at one.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Here's a pitch.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
It is driven to right field and hit DP Trambell.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Back on the warning track.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
It it's into the second row.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
Riley Adams, an opposite field homer makes it a two
to one ball game.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
In the seventh.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
Sin against two two swing at Avess Belt, strikes out
of the splitter of the dirt, and that is the ballgame.
The Houston Astros suffer their fifth consecutive defeat, a season
high losing streak, as the Nationals take the first game
of this series two to one. On Astros now dropped
ten of their last eleven games at home.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
So the question is was there some sort of misunderstanding
or is fromber just really pissed. We will try to
discuss that today. On a Tuesday edition of The Matt
Thomas Show, was ross here on Sports Talk seven on
any good morning sports are you?

Speaker 2 (02:26):
How the hell are you?

Speaker 1 (02:27):
I'm doing great, Matt. I'm just looking up Nathaniel Lowe's
projected spray angles on different batted balls well relates to
from er Valdez's repertoire. Yeah, okay from bird Yeah. Brian
McTaggart's tweets probably the best, not that we don't like
the other guys. Wow, but he has the video of
where low hit it, and obviously there was a lot

(02:48):
of room in right field. Now, all the Beat reporters
that cover the team did a really effective job of
staying here's the sprays on Nathaniel Lowe and that he
has tended to have a little more appo power, but
this year's even more opo than it has been in
year's past. So but if you pull a ball, and

(03:10):
you pull a ball, you know what I mean? And
that was pulled and you had what's his face? Josh Bell,
who usually gets traded by this time every year, moving
around the base pass and the Nationals tied the game,
the home run given up by King in the next inning, and.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
The storyline for me, and this is just a little
bit of a.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
The whole Frobber stuff is more about just what stays
in a clubhouse and what doesn't. Eight runs in five games, friends,
I mean, that's to me, and that's I try to
say more about anything else. Is that you can't win anything.
You can't win your Pony League championship scoring eight runs
in five games. Okay, well maybe if it's arrogatty going,

(03:52):
it'st make greek. But oh god, he did throw two
no hitters against him. That's true. I forgot about that.
Thanks than that, it's gonna be tough. Yeah, the offense
has been bad. They're hitting a really bad swoon hair
four hitch yesterday, doubles du bond get you the RBI
walker with the other double and two singles and nets,
a couple walks strong, but a lot of gooses and

(04:13):
another good start from Fromber, but they lost.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
The streak is over.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
What was it thirteen straight, thirteen straight games he had played,
he had started, they had won, that ended. He gets
a quality start yesterday, despite the loss. He gets a
no decision because Kingdom's the one they gave it up.
So you know, if you only look at the Astros
pitching part of the box score, you're like, wow, fromber
gets you six with run run Brian King give up one,
but that's okay. A bray you and Hater close it out.
N oh, by the way, nineteen strikeouts, nineteen freaking strikeouts. Yesterday,

(04:42):
nineteen strikeouts. A bray you and Hater closed it out
with the Astros win like five to two. It's funny.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
I think you would listen to the ten didingk show
lesson for that.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Thank you. No, I was not. I said you went
with your number one starter, your leverage guys. In the seventh, eighth,
and ninth you struck out nine team you had the
other team to four hits. Tell me it's a seven
to one Astros way two hours and eighteen minutes like that,
I'd be honest with you. No, I didn't listen. But
we do think similarly, more than I care to admit.

(05:13):
You know that the best part about you is you
do admit it more these days, and it means my wise,
here we go. The knowledge I've been able to give
all these years in this business clouding my brain for
fifteen years. All right, So last night tenth Inch Show
had trade Jordan, Trade Jordan. Yep, you're talking about one

(05:37):
of the five best hitters on the planet on a
team friendly deal because they're just Freddy's always hurt. So
oh what which would make other teams just want to
jump in exactly grab it off an injured player, Trade
yarner ds. I've been seeing a lot of that lately.
What hold on, hold on, where's fire Dusty because he

(05:58):
won't play yaner Dz. He's the greatest catcher in the
history at times since Yogi Mara, And all of a sudden,
it's trade Yiner time. Then it was fire hitting coaches,
And I told the guy and directly now, I said,
you didn't call two weeks ago and asking what the
coach to be fired?

Speaker 2 (06:13):
The hitting coach to be fired?

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Yeah, when they were, when they were on a four
game winning streak. I mean, I mean, just basically on fumes,
nobody was complaining. That's the funny. That's the funny thing
of the is is that we still do this. We
still do this as Astros fans when you know it's
one hundred and sixty two game season. Yeah, and and

(06:36):
hopefully this downturn stretch is going to be short lived.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
I mean it couldn't.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
This is the low point of the season for many reasons. One,
it's your longest losing streak of the year. Secondly, you
losing two teams that are not even going to be
close to the playoffs, that are well under five hundred
and Third, you did it at home, where this was
supposed to be your best place to hang out and
you can get well. We talked about this, right, didn't we,
But about the the A's and the Nationals coming into

(07:02):
town after a four game winning streak, it just seemed
a little too easy. I was a little unsettling.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
You know what it is.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
Honestly, we gotta stop talking about who's got the easiest
schedule between now and I mean, I won't let you
do it because that's one of your go to spots.
I am, I am curious about it. No, they have
to do it. They also have eighteen guys on the IL.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
And I won't tell you.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
Is it eighteen?

Speaker 4 (07:29):
Right?

Speaker 1 (07:29):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Eighteen with uh colors?

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Right?

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Walter Brandon Walter? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
So that how's y'all's day? Like it's just baseball? But
I know anybody's cranky. Frober's really cranky. Frober was also
man eating going to strike call. Uh well, there was
a lot of bad then there was a lot of
bad hoss by the way, I mean, he should have
struck out. Nathaniel Low should have struck out. It was
nipped on the edge. So it wasn't like an egregious

(08:01):
call like it was, Uh, what was it like the
what was the one that I quote?

Speaker 2 (08:05):
It was Old Toronto.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
Oh my god, it was middle middle and that was
called the ball. It wasn't that bad. But also there
was some miscalls on the other side. I can't remember exactly,
but the Astros should have had a strikeout too, and
I think they got a lot.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
Your bond guy called out on strikes in a play
late in game. That was not cool.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
Okay, yeah, it look human element folks, But that's not
why they lost. No, I mean, we're frankly, we're trying
to figure out other ways and other people to blame.
And that's what happens when you lose to the caliber teams.
They've lost at home on a streak and oh, by
the way, it feels like the Rangers and the Mariners

(08:41):
don't lose anymore. And you were getting perfectoed for five
innings by Brad Lord, who, by the way, was on
a pitch count. At least he was going into the start.
He was a guy who went back and forth between
the starting rotation and the bullpen. And you learned that
because you listened to the on Deck Show yesterday during
the pitching preview, thank you and well oh for three

(09:03):
with Runderds in scoring position, four hits the entire game,
you scored one run.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
You scored first, by the way, that was nice.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
Yeah, about way, that's nothing to add struck out nineteen.
You had three leverage relievers, you're number one starter, you
were at home, it was the Nationals, and you scored first.
That's supposed to be six to one, well or maybe
two to one. Yeah, I mean you you just in

(09:31):
a vacuum. The games like that happen, of course, but
you pile it up against four losses against the A's,
it hurts even more. I got news for you too,
and I thought about this as I was listening to a. J.
Prazinski on with Sean This one I was a good conversation,
by the way, worthy of downloading it. Is there anybody
except you, Hineo Suarez, that's gonna really move the needle

(09:52):
trade deadline wise, that's really gonna make you say, like
a smash, that's really going to go all my god,
you're putting this team on the next level. Hell, even
the Yankees moves. What was the utility guy and what
was the first basement that can't hit outside of Denver?

Speaker 6 (10:09):
No?

Speaker 2 (10:09):
No, no, So that's not good. Now you need reinforcements.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
But the Yankees are not going to win the World
Series of Aaron Judge is playing at forty percent the
rest of the year whenever he comes back.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
I mean, this year's trade deadline, well, it feels like
it's going to be a ferocious amount of activity here
in the next couple of days. You, Hindeo Suarez, that's it. Yeah,
I mean, Zach Gallan might get moved from from Arizona.
That's a quality arm who's the guy that would would
to see how the first basement That was a pretty

(10:41):
good move by Seattle move. But there isn't this Verlander
Johnson or you know, going to get Juan Soto or
I mean, I'm just don't even know if there's a
usea Kakuci move out there.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
Yeah, if you can't.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
Get if you can't get Youacucci in late July when
you go and get it. At this point, I'll take Kakuci. Yeah.
Night they struck out nineteen nationals and lost and lost.
All right, we return? How do you how do you
think Fromber handled the situation last night? I will tell

(11:21):
you I cannot wait. I cannot wait to tell you
by Tyler Brewing too teen and the mat Thomas Show
with Ross seven one three two one two five seven
ninety So Fromber, maybe maybe read the quotes? Would you
let me do that? Sure? Now this is through an interpreter.

(11:43):
Uh huh, And this is the reporters going off of
what the interpreter said, yes, and apparently started talking about
the positioning unprompted. According to Chandler, Rome, yeah, uh let's
go here, okay. Uh Fromber, I don't have let's see. Uh,
I can read it if you want. Well, I'm just

(12:03):
trying to get the right one. Okay. Here, I'll give
you a second at sports r V on Instagram. Folks,
if you want to follow me, i'd appreciate it. There's
something buzzing in the back. I think it's okay, here, okay,
here a little humming now too. I think it's the machine.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
Oh, that's what it is. I're working on the copy machine.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
No, I don't know. It doesn't make sense that that
was a double. We're talking about the Nathaniel low not
loud because we got lows and Laos everywhere. I have
to double check every time I think about one of
these players. Wait, Nathaniel low because he's with Brandon low
and then there's.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
A Lao somewhere in the mix.

Speaker 1 (12:43):
Yeah, on Tampa Bay. It doesn't make sense that there
was this was double. It doesn't make sense. The right
fielder was playing center field with a lefty that was hitting.
That should have been a single. That should have been
a double, and the runner should have been at third
and not at home. It's Brandon Lao. Yeah, and there's
Nathaniel Lowe and he has a brother that's Low. Sorry, okay,

(13:05):
thanks for that Ross, think it out loud And then
Chandler jumps onto more of those quotes on that and says,
did you ask any of the coaches about that? And
he says the following He says, I don't have to
ask the coaches about that. I feel like baseball is
a game of common sense. With me as a lefty pitcher,

(13:28):
they don't hit a lot of fly balls against me. Hmm, wow,
that's a frustrated pitcher who wants offense, who had a
nice long streak going. And while again Major League Baseball

(13:52):
teams Rossie generally speaking do a really good job.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
Of positioning their outfielders.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
Yes, and also situationally, they were playing far back because
they wanted to not allow any doubles for the gaps. Unfortunately,
it was a doubles a strict it was a poll hit.
I remember, Yeah, you had Josh Bell running on the play,
so you already had start even though he's super slow.
Well yeah, but I mean he was going to be
at second base by the pretime the ball landed, so

(14:19):
there was still a possibility. Now I think I think
Frommer's right, he would have been at third more so
than he would have been at home, But the spacing
of the outfield would have guaranteed him be getting home.
So I will just say, as soon as I saw
these quotes and talked about them alive on the show
last night, my thought was.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
Part of it was.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
The Astros, just like all these Major League Baseball teams,
do not have malpractice when it comes to positioning their outfielders.
Those outfielders have these little note cards they keep of players.
Plus you have a coach in the dugout that is
positioning players as well. So I don't think it was practice.

(15:02):
But even if there was a mistake, we should know
about it. You got to keep that bad boy in
the house because tell me what, what good came out
of what? Except for talking about it with us on
the air here? What good came out of from we're
going I don't know what our outfitter was doing. Outfielders

(15:24):
were doing. That should have been a single. The runner
should have been at third base. Go ahead, No, go, okay,
we gonna we need spacing here. Friends, My bad. I
don't think it's that big of a deal. I know

(15:46):
that I'm I'm probably in the minority. Uh he Now,
if he had a call, Let's say Taylor Trammell went
out there and was chasing down a ball and mishandled
it or threw it to the wrong cutoff guy or whatever,
and then he started calling out Taylor Tremmell specifically, I
would definitely feel like that was a line that was crossed.

(16:09):
But for him to come out there and say, ah, yeah,
I don't know now. Of course it is through an interpreter.
We don't know exactly how venomous things he were saying. Obviously,
the quotes sound like he's pretty frustrated, and you bring
in the fact that he brought it up pretty much unprompted.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
But yeah, he's like, hey, I'm a lefty.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
And then so he's asking the questions and he's like,
I don't know if the positioning was correct, and then
Joe Spot is going to take him into a room
and say, hey, this is what we had so we thought,
or they're going to say, hey, Taylor Tremmell looked at
his card wrong and he was in the wrong spot,
and then they just and this all goes away. I
don't think. I think is just like a mid season frustration.
They've lost five games in a row. We know that
Fromberd likes to wear his emotions on his sleeve anyways,

(16:52):
and I don't think there's any like any real harm
that it's being done by what fromer Valdez said, Because
I was thinking, we're all thinking the same thing. They were.
They were talking about it on the broadcast, like why
are they positioned over there? And it's fine because bogus
Sevic brought up on the postgame show, because I went
back and listened to him after the my show was

(17:12):
over with, and his philosophy was, you don't want to
put in the alley, you don't want to give the
alleys a yup. And so see there's the answer. So
Fromer's asking a question I was wondering when it was happening,
and then you brought Chandler. Rome's article in the Athletic
has a lot of the spray charts and stuff like that.
Nathaniel Lowe is a guy that does go opole a
lot for a left hander. Fly balls to right field

(17:34):
don't happen a lot for left handers against Fromber, So
it sounds like they were positioned properly. So I don't know, Yeah,
Fromber probably should have addressed somebody that was somebody because
he was out in the sixth he got the seventh,
or you know, if he hit the showers immediately and
then I don't know, he went and go went and
played Xbox. I don't know, but he probably should have

(17:58):
talked to somebody about this, for sure, I will agree.
But also I don't think you know, this is like
some reparable harm that's being done to the Astros clubhouse
or anything like that. I want to make sure I'm
very clear in this. This is not going to split
the clubhouse, losing sports clubhouses. Well, not one person happening to,
not one person in front of a microphone. Yeah, but
I will just say when it sounds like and I

(18:22):
think I'm correct on this. I don't think this was
were you concerned about the defensive positioning on that play?
I think that was Corobber saying that just because he
wanted to give that m And No, this is not
a tactic to get traded. I don't think so. Either.
You're not trading your ace when you're in first place
in division. Now that means coming I start thinking a

(18:43):
little bit here, you know what I'm talking to.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
Let's start thinking a little bit here.

Speaker 1 (18:48):
Just trade.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
You're not trade from or trade.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
It's they're in first place, folks, like everybody really that
way right now, breath They're still in first place. They're
still favorites to win the division.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
But yeah, I just.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
I'm just saying that they didn't and I'm not you know,
I'm not in a baseball clubhouse, and I mean I've
been around baseball for a while with his job, and
maybe there are shockwaves being sent through that he did this,
But to me, this is just like Ah fromber being frommer.

Speaker 2 (19:19):
The difference is that Joe A.

Speaker 1 (19:23):
Spata and he will be with us at twelve thirty today,
does a very very good job of protecting players and
I think probably if you're Joe Aspata, you want that
in return, even if there was a miscommunication or there
was a tactical error in their defensive positioning, which I
can't ross. Look, no team is perfect, but those guys

(19:47):
go through intelligent reports. They've seen Nathaniel low play a
bunch of times, whether it was an astro or a national,
that they're very familiar with his work. I don't think
it was again knowing it, maybe Samuel whispers something in
my air down the road, but there was not a
malpractice and where those guys were positioned. And I think

(20:09):
part of it too is to me, and this is
just me, is that part of it is that he
was madging at the strike call to get the ending
out and that you exacerbated things by not only getting
that not strike three, but loget's the hit, the runner
scores and you lose the chance to win the game
because he knew his pitch cat was high and he
wasn't coming back out for the seventh thing. He was frustrated,
and obviously he was frustrated after the game. But I

(20:30):
just in general, as a rule of thumb, I like
when guys are honest like this, I like it. I
understand keep everything in house. We don't want to it's
us versus them whatever, brotherhood. But Fromber was honest. That's
all he did was tell his truth. He said, I
don't know what the heck those guys are doing out there,
and not in so many these words. And I'm a
lefty and he's a lefty, and we needed some common sense.

(20:53):
I'm going to slightly disagree and say that there have
been times that Frober has lost his mind on the mound,
and I've never heard a single player go. I really
wish Frommer would cool off. Yeah, exactly, Well, he didn't
go after a player, That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
I will, well, I think he did.

Speaker 1 (21:06):
He went he went after combination of a player and
or coach. I you think he was going after Taylor Truelle.
I think he's going after somebody he wanted. He wanted
to know why a right fielder was playing right center,
so he either the positioning coach who decides that, whether
he was going after the manager, whether he's going after player.

(21:28):
I'm just saying that nobody's perfect, and there's a very
difficult time right now that Astro clubhouse because they are underperforming,
and the last thing you need is for someone to
be certain to throw somebody under the bus.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
That's just my personal.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
Yeah, to me, this's not different than you know what,
like a three game winning streak or or getting back
on the bump today and winning fixes a lot.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
We would forget everything.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
I mean, go you go ahead and win the next
two games and we're not talking about this.

Speaker 2 (21:55):
Yeah, it's not that different from I don't even know.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
A football player saying yeah, I think we should have
run the ball in that situation, or why aren't we
running the ball? Or why didn't we pass? Why didn't
we do this? He's just like, hey, I don't know,
why wasn't this guy and why was this guy in
right center? He was quite pretty funny quote, Uh, he's
over there in center field, but we have a center
fielder for that. Yeah, yeah, I just nobody's perfect, and

(22:21):
I think you open yourself up for well, you know,
if if Robert went out of thrown seven straight curveballs,
they didn't know what was coming. I just it just
that's the kind of stuff you want to shut the
door and yell and somebody. That's going to happen in
a clubhouse. To think that no one goes after anybody
in the clubhouses is ridiculous. But I don't know to
do unprovoked to a munch reporters. It was to me

(22:44):
more frustration and you do things. Look I'm the king
of it. I do a lot of things in frustration.
Later apologize for it. I don't need you adding a
PS to this. Sorry, not mean to have my moment.
I'm just reacting. Let's go to some phones.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
Next.

Speaker 1 (22:57):
Luis and Gary will get to you ten thirty as
our ten. We will talk to Joe Spot at twelve thirty.
Gut feelings today at eleven thirty. This is Sports Talk
seven n eighty All right, eleven thirty. We've got gut feelings,
which you get to make sports predictions. At twelve twenty,
we will have Wex's training camp report, which features some

(23:18):
variety in the offensive line. Twelve thirty Joe Spota, one
thirty Jacob Melton will join us fresh out the Angel
list bat at fifth last night, and we'll have him
at one thirty and all leave it or not today
at one fifty is all things. Ryan Samberg, May he
rest in peace for someone that grew up like many
of my age group, in a little bit younger, certainly older.

(23:41):
You grew up watching the Chicago Cubs on WGN and
that Lanabery did on WTBS and Ryan Samberg you get
to watch one hundred and forty Cubs games every year,
and he was amazing. I remember getting a Don Russ
Ryan Sandberg All Star card and I was like, yes, yeah,

(24:01):
he's really really, I mean, one of the best hitting
second basemen ever to play. But all count's a really
good guy, fought cancer once and beat it and unfortunate
to not do it this time. So rip to Ryan
Samberg and we will honor hand with believe it or
not today at one fifty. Well, you you think you'll
find a question of why mom and Dad Samberg Ryan
named him Ryan that way. I want to say. We've

(24:23):
done this before, and I think it was when Ryan Staneck. God,
we asked me about it, rad it or something. Right,
there is a I'm pretty sure there's a reason. I
just can't find it in the recesses of my brain. Well,
I'm gonna give you a little advice. As a father
of three and an unrash you don't have any children
and don't plan on how any that you know of,
Thank God, don't excuse me that's getting choked up here.

(24:52):
Don't spell your kid's names weird. They're they're in for
a life of Is this how you really spell it?

Speaker 2 (24:58):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (24:59):
Because I even though I wrote Ryan, Ri, I and
E on the my pre show tweet, I had to
go back and chuck just to make sure I did
it right. Yep. Look, Ryan Stannek and Ryan Stanberg from
twenty twenty one got the archives. Okay, you know what
I'm saying. I mean, you are just we just got
to like Carly's name C. A. R. L. Y Okay
is the most recognizable name of the word Carly, maybe

(25:21):
largely because of Carly Simon. Okay, well, probably the most
famous Carly I can think of. I think that works. Yeah,
but there is fifteen ways to spell Carly, and it
just you got a K, you got an extra E,
you got a Y, no I E.

Speaker 2 (25:38):
It's a hot mess. Go tradition. Now, as your son
Peyton with an A or E, he's with an E.

Speaker 1 (25:44):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
But our good friend Peyton Party, who is.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
Jack's grandson, who's working with the Buccaneers of office, he's
in a coach, he is p A Y and he
was named after Walter Payton, Ah, because Jack coach Walter
in Chicago. So okay, so that's that's beautiful. It's a
little different. Yeah, why not Walter? I mean, I guess
he could have.

Speaker 4 (26:08):
So.

Speaker 2 (26:08):
Yeah, the the.

Speaker 1 (26:09):
Picking names and keeping the most famous version of that
name probably helps, Okay, not that all the time.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
Maybe there's some family tradition to it.

Speaker 1 (26:18):
But I just was like Ryan are and I when
I was a kid, I was like Ryan Sandberg r
y npopp r y n E. I had never seen
it that way me either, not much since since Ryan
Stannick or the Ryan's it's Ryan Sandberg and it's Ryan Stannic,
even though they're spelled the same.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
Ryan.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
It's what you do in one syllable. Right, that's how
you do it. Ryan, don't know your marketing like that.
Let's talk to Luis on seven ten thirty eight. Good
morning to.

Speaker 4 (26:48):
You, Hi.

Speaker 7 (26:52):
There's something that just doesn't really sit right with me
about the prospect of trading for a Henny Suarez, and
it's that, you know, this off season, we made a
series of moves that were sort of designed to extend
the window of contention for the team. And like, cause,
if you're planning on doing everything you can to win
in twenty twenty five, you don't create Kyle Tucker, right.
So after making those moves and after seeing like through

(27:15):
the course of the season, how much young talent you're
gonna have to leverage into years in the years to come,
guys like Melton Matthews, et cetera, it really does doesn't
make a lot of sense to me that you would
be willing to pursue the guy that's gonna cost you
more of that young, controllable talent than anyone else on
the market.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
It's written. Yeah, it's very simple, Luis. They want to
win the World Series and they need help at the plate. Now,
I don't think they're gonna get Suarez Anyways, but the
point is that that Jim Crane has shown us that
his mantra is penance over prospects, and I get what
you're saying. A lot of that also was trying to

(27:55):
stay under the luxury tax and get something for Kyle Tucker.

Speaker 2 (27:58):
They've been towing.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
They're towing the line of planning for the future plus
still trying to contend in the now and and you're
dealing with incomplete information in the offseason. Now you have
more complete information. You have over one hundred games that
they've played, and they're in first place and the American
League is eminently winnable. So they want to do everything
they can to win a World Series this year. Not

(28:20):
everything they can, I should say, but within reason to
win a World Series this year rather than also just
plan for the future. You don't, honestly, Luis. It's a
fine line. You have to balance it. And what Kyle
Tucker have helped this team, for sure, no question about that.

Speaker 2 (28:39):
But the Astros.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
Knew for many years that Kyle Tucker was not going
to come back, and the editortles, and so you kind
of keep guys around that last year and hope that
you can renegotiate, you can start conversations. Kyle want to
know part of that, and so that one kind of
made sense to me.

Speaker 3 (28:58):
I agree with that.

Speaker 7 (28:59):
I know that the I know that there are players
out there that are definitely like movable to potentially help
this team. It just feels like the price on Suarez
might be almost counterproductive.

Speaker 1 (29:09):
I would have to agree with you. I think they
don't have enough. Thanks Louis for the phone called. They
don't have enough. And if he is the most recognizable
name ROSSI at the deadline, how is the general manager
of the Diamondbacks doesn't have his phone constantly ringing or
constantly getting text messages from probably five or six different
baseball team Yeah, I don't think that. Yeah, they don't

(29:32):
have the facilities to get into that doubt bidding war.

Speaker 2 (29:35):
It would be a while move.

Speaker 1 (29:36):
But while moves also involve sending high end prospects to
the Arizona Diamondbacks, it'd be cool. I mean, you gotta
give to get the member of the Justin Verlander trade.
Were like, oh my god, they gave away what Ryan
Clifford and Drew Gilbert. What are those guys doing? I
don't even know. That was kind of crazy the Kahouchie move.

(29:59):
Of course low Berfeto's hitting now. But you you might
not even win the division if you don't make that move.
I'm with it. We'll see what happens. Funny, we will
tend to say I don't care about the future. I
want to win for now, and there is a certain
amount of that you you need from your general manager.
But the general manager is also in charge of the

(30:20):
foreseeable future. Yes, but also the general manager follows the
orders of the owner. And Jim Crane has shown us
time and time again, let's go and win this thing. Yeah,
he has, and that's to his credit. He has said
absolutely minor leag system be damned. I know. And Dan's like, wait, man,
you brought me here to fix this. I need you
to move you take care of you. It's all right,
that's right. Let's talk to Gary in Spring at ten

(30:44):
forty three on seven IY Gary, Good morning, Hey, good
morning guys.

Speaker 8 (30:48):
Yeah, it's uh, it's kind of odd at the deal
last night. Is It's it's just they're just on this
homestand they're losing all these games and everything, and they're
kind of getting frustrated. Just like Ross said, it's just
frustration bubbling over each each loss this home stand. They're

(31:09):
getting madder and madder, and he, you know, he wears
his like you said, he wears his feelings on the sleeve,
and it just bubbled over. He probably woke up today
if he's awake yet, and he says, oh, I should
have said that, and everything's okay, And like you said earlier,
a win will make everything right. But he wouldn't even
have won the game anyway, because the next picture came

(31:29):
in and he gave up a run, so he wouldn't
He wouldn't have won the game anyway. But so I
think everything's gonna be all right because the Calvary's coming.
The shortstop is going to go play tonight and he'll
be back this weekend, I think when they go up
to Boston and everything.

Speaker 1 (31:46):
So it's just frustration, frustration.

Speaker 5 (31:48):
Bubbling over, and uh, everything will be all right, getting
the pictures back and all that. So I don't if
they don't even make a trade, I think they'll still
be all right. But the main thing is we got
to remember that these teams that are coming in are
not all that good.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
They're playing a triple A team basically, yep. Yeah, their pictures.

Speaker 5 (32:11):
Their pictures are looking like superstars because four out of
the five of the last batters are triple A players,
not even hit two hundred. So there's a lot involved here,
and things are gonna be coming together at the end,
and we'll have extra energy because people have been out
on injury, so I think everything will be all right.
So my good show guys just wanted to chime in
on that.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
Thanks Garrett.

Speaker 1 (32:32):
We take a short time out ten forty four on
Sports Talk seven on Everything's Gonna be all right? All right, Okay,
I think I know what song coming back when we
come back. Now, it's too early. We've got to e
vent for at least an hour. No, we didn't change
a two into the city even all right, Hey, I'm

(32:53):
still a Jonathan eleven o'clock. We're gonna play that song
with the loan after run from Last Days. You know
the song I'm gonna say, No, what's about Marley? Oh?

Speaker 2 (33:03):
Yeah, what's it called?

Speaker 1 (33:04):
Everything's Gonna be alright? What's about Jim Movie?

Speaker 7 (33:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (33:06):
This song is three Little Birds? But yes, every little
thing is gonna be all right. So that's our that's
our eleven o'clock open with the lone astral highlight from
last night's offensive performance. All right, Jonathan Alexander is the
beat writer for The Chronicle. He's one of the few
legit members of the media that go to Texans practice
every day. Adam Wu's are coming up later on the show.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
Yeah, he's a legit.

Speaker 1 (33:32):
That's about eighty percent of it, right there, boy, John
and Alexander, Boy, he can he can run through some
stuff here. I'm just reading through his timeline. I mean
seven on seven drills underway. I mentioned from you don't
really show up in my feed. That's weird mine of yours? Yeah,

(33:53):
oh there it is yours. Okay, I'm trying to do
I don't want some of this is minucia. So I'm
just gonna get three minutes ago.

Speaker 9 (34:03):
C J.

Speaker 1 (34:03):
Strow was five or six on the day. Much cleaner
day for him, some really nice throats. Okay, it makes
me feel good, I guess. But you have to keep stats.
Like JJ Watt said, second team off. No, it's funny.
JJ Watt came out last week and told all the
tweet geeks out there to stop doing this, and it
doesn't stop. But John's a beat reporter. I mean John's different.

(34:24):
I mean, he he. If there's anybody that should be
doing it, it's just him. Resty's fake media. Don't deserve
to be out there. Uh faalse start on Blake Fisher.
Oh oh mm hm, Davis Mills completion nice, he's looking good.
Dylan Horton gets past Austin Declas for a.

Speaker 2 (34:43):
Sack that isn't not great?

Speaker 1 (34:46):
Uh? The first the offensive line for the first team today,
I gotta go scroll scroll, scroll, Well, there's a lot
of scroll. I'm gonna wex Maybe wex will help us
out with this. Uh again, it's just a lot of
stuff to comprehend. And oh here it is, uh Urserie,
Howard Andrews, Tomlinson and Robinson. Is your offensive line from

(35:09):
right to left? Hmm okay. I don't think it necessarily
moves the needle for anybody, but I'm just for those
that are into that kind of stuff that gives you
what they're doing. And then Wexer we tweet tweeting a
few minutes ago that it was Jared Patterson at center.
So I don't know if it's gonna be Jake Andrews.
The draft pick where's rugg A couple of years ago,

(35:32):
Juwe Scruggs. He's been in there at center. I thought
he was the first the first day, right, Yeah, but
I've not seen his name brought up very much at all.
Don't know. By the way, Jalen uh Petrie returned to
practice today.

Speaker 2 (35:44):
You're happy about that.

Speaker 1 (35:45):
I am. Actually that was a big loss for them.
Oh yeah, I mean the reality is now his tackling
skill tackling skills are something to be desired, but its
cover skills are pretty good. No, you got it the
other way around.

Speaker 2 (36:02):
No, he okay, coverage goos are bad as he's a
good tackler.

Speaker 1 (36:05):
Yeah, he's good. He's good around the line of scrimmage
basically as like a like a strong safety or I
can't remember what they call it, a joker position or
whatever you want to call it. Yeah, he's got a
good nose for the football. But he doesn't wrap up
or he does wrap up. Okay, he missed like a
couple tackles. You're you're overblowing it, Matt. He's missed. The

(36:25):
overblowing will be taking his grandiose big sound effect.

Speaker 2 (36:28):
I just said what I said.

Speaker 1 (36:29):
Yeah, he's missed a couple of tackles before. But I
know he hasn't missed. I think Jalen Petrie is pretty
good and he's best going downhill. I would say his
biggest uh, the blessing in the curse of Jalen Petrie
is that he is so aggressive. He can blow up
running plays, but also sometimes he can bite too hard
on play action and then he's he's left scrambling and covered.
But he got a new contract. Mm hmmm, Uh, Derek

(36:52):
Stinglely got a new contract. But he's great. He's he's
what Demiko Ryans wants. He's flying around the field, swarm mentality,
whatever you want to call it. Jalen Peachre, he's really
good at that. Yeah, all right, So that's and we'll
get a much more practical report.

Speaker 2 (37:05):
From wex to twelve twenty.

Speaker 1 (37:07):
Very little minutia, I would hop in that conversation, and
he was going with us yesterday he said the minutia
for his show two to six. Okay, we can take
some oh Network talking about this from er veld is,
I'm and he just Josh Bell just barely made it

(37:31):
even as is hmmm keeping the clubhouse sports RV. Okay, well,
he just finished. He just spoke his truth. He vented
his frustration the truth on I always set you free.
But he didn't call anybody else specifically. What I mean,
he doesn't take much to figure out what he was
talking about. He's talking about the positioning. Yeah, so it's

(37:52):
either the position whoever in defense, positions at the outfielders,
or the player itself. You wouldn't he wouldn't calling out
stretch Suba. He might have been. No, there's no chance
stretch wasn't there there's no chance it would have You know,
you're not curtesizing Hoppy ar Broca Monte. He might have been. Now,
there's no chance he warmed him up. I don't think

(38:12):
that's how our hears fall. You don't make MLB Network
if you don't say what you say. And that's for
a team that's struggling. You that's the last time. But
it's not. Yeah, but if they're on does anybody watching
the guess maybe they're watching MLB Network at eleven in
the morning. No, But I mean it's what MLB Network
is taking their cues off of what the baseball reporters
are on the country going through. I think it's much

(38:33):
ado about and I want to say nothing, but because
he's gonna be told don't do this by Joe Aspota
and whoever, and we can talk to We're gonna talk
to Joe Spotta coming up at twelve thirty. But to me,
it's he's he shows that he cares, he's frustrated, and
he didn't understand it. I didn't understand it when it happened.
The only thing is he had like three innings to
talk to somebody, three innings plus a cooling off period

(38:55):
to say, hey, what was the deal in that positioning? Yeah,
and he didn't do that, or at least maybe he did,
and he still wanted to vent his frustration. Oh no,
when you when you go and say these things in
front of a microphone and the interpreter's doing the heavy
lifting for you, mm hmm without somebody asking about it,
you wanted to make sure that you weren't to blame

(39:16):
for that run being scored. It doesn't mean he's going
to be traded. It also doesn't It doesn't mean he
wants to be traded when he want well, he might
want one in getting are two different things. You're not
trading your ace when you're in first place. I mean,
if you really wanted to get from really want to
get traded to you just said I am sick of
being around this baseball team. That that would have probably helped.

(39:36):
Maybe he said it the interpreter was like, h let
me go and walk this back. I'm just kidding. Yeah,
that's interesting. Does the interpreter also filter? I would say sure,
And people have talked about interpreters getting things wrong.

Speaker 2 (39:51):
Or keeping things out.

Speaker 1 (39:53):
I guess, but I don't think that happened in this case.

Speaker 2 (39:56):
No, No, I think no.

Speaker 1 (39:58):
The interpreter clearly said what he said off of what
Farber said, and again to me, if this is if
there's a strike three called on load end the inning,
this isn't. It was a terrible combination, giving up the
hit after the non strike call and the positioning was
probably just a double doozy of I'm pissed off. Yeah,

(40:19):
and it's it's Fromber.

Speaker 2 (40:21):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (40:21):
I don't know why. For whatever reason, I'm like, that's Fromber.
He's just being fromber.

Speaker 6 (40:24):
Well.

Speaker 2 (40:24):
I mean, we won't talk about this much longer.

Speaker 1 (40:27):
It's not about having to worry about it, oh, worry
about him being uh stalwart in the rotation and eating
up two hundred innings. And finishing top ten and the
sign young. Oh no, we don't have to worry about
that anymore. I want him here, I know, I just
know it's not gonna I know you want him here,
but the uh luxury taxes otherwise, I get it. Well,

(40:47):
they've they just I think he wants a long term contract,
and I mean there hasn't even been an offer to him. No.
I mean, you have a bet that he's not going
to get more than five years. So why wouldn't theytro
assign him to a five year deal because I don't think.
I think they've said, and how I want to make
sure they haven't wanted to go more than five. They
offered Bregman six. What's the longest they've ever offered a pitcher.

(41:09):
I don't know, because Verlanders were two years. I believe
Jim christ wanted to offer him seventeen years Christian, Yeah,
seventeen years in a free belt. Yeah, and also yes,
eight rounds a year together?

Speaker 2 (41:25):
This up for quick?

Speaker 1 (41:25):
How much is Christian Hovier's contract? But that's also arbitration years.
They bought him out of arbitration. But I'm sure it was.
I think it was. Was it? How long was Lance?
How long as Lance's deal. Lance was five seventy five,
and that's also arbitration. Was it five seventy five or
something like that? Because eighty five five eighty five might
be right. Maybe the songs will be played for like

(41:50):
the entire two hours and whatever, how many minutes the
Astros game is tonight, although.

Speaker 2 (41:58):
Smiled est in his going.

Speaker 1 (42:00):
Tonight to the game.

Speaker 2 (42:02):
Yeah, they're doing the nine nine nine thing.

Speaker 1 (42:05):
Okay, so that's gotta be camp. Yeah, he's a guess. Man.
You say you like biopicks. Have you seen the Bob
Marley one?

Speaker 6 (42:13):
I have not.

Speaker 10 (42:13):
It's a good It's it's more about like his spiritual
and like his personal life, not so much for his music.
But it's really beautiful and it's all right. I don't
want a girl, man can say beautiful. It's a really
good sort.

Speaker 1 (42:26):
I saw the trailer and it kind of felt like
the guy now, the guy that played him with Jamaican,
right or no, it didn't. He fooled me. He was like, hey,
min am my, momy mine, and I'm like, I don't
know I can do this. But it was okay for you.
But doesn't everybody do that kind of personation? You're not
in the movie. When it's a biopic, you go forget, like, Okay, okay,

(42:49):
you can get over it. And Man, I just didn't
want to be snickering and mine. They amputated my leg.
Man I was like, okay, well, I just didn't know
it was gonna be Jonathan, you say it's beautiful. And
Ross said the trailer sucks and he didn't watch it,
so I was wary. No, the trailer is like sketch.

(43:10):
So I agree with Ross.

Speaker 10 (43:12):
Okay, into his character probably the first ten minutes.

Speaker 1 (43:14):
Okay, you gotta buy that's anything. You gotta buy in, Matt.
If you don't buy in, you're not gonna like it.
The story is really well well written, for sure. Speaking
of which I finished Happy Gilmore too. We can get
to that in a bit. Best biopic now in terms
of acting or U line, we did a we did

(43:37):
a fancy five the best biotpicks. I honestly don't remember
who won. To me, the person that looked the closest
to the person he was pretending to be. You want
to guess. Daniel da Lewis and Lincoln the guy that
play Queen. No, that's not bad though, uh, Denzel Washington
and Malcolm X. No, yes, Robert de Niro and Raging Bull. No,

(44:04):
Jamie Fox and Ray Oh that was great. Jamie Fox
is great. I'll put Daniel da Lewis in Lincoln number two.
Both of them won Best Actor. It's funny because Amien
Rhapsody I loved. I thought it was really good.

Speaker 2 (44:17):
But camera.

Speaker 1 (44:18):
My middle son Peyton loved rocket Man the Elton John bio.

Speaker 2 (44:21):
Pick a little bit more.

Speaker 1 (44:22):
That's my girl. That's our favorite is Rocketman? Oh, Oppenheimer, Oh,
didn't see it. Won't be seeing it, Matt. It's you've
got to watch it. What's the topic? Go ahead to
say what the topic is. No, it's not for Matt.
It's not for Matt. No, no, no, don't even try.
I want you to low paced and intellectual and a
good film. It's not for Matt to get your no no, no, no,

(44:46):
no no. You need you need slapstick like Airplane, or
you need moms at the Christmas Tree Farm on the
Hallmark channel. That's what Matt needs. Or Ray over here
in Rhapsody. Oppenheimer, you're so weird literally just like Swept
the Oscars. It's a great performance by Killian Murphys. Oscars

(45:11):
will never tell me what I like. I know they won't.

Speaker 2 (45:15):
Mister Lifetime Movie Network, excuse me.

Speaker 1 (45:17):
I'm this embity film critic and I wait for the
masters man, and I need a master piece, you know what.
I want to go to a movie theater, have some popcorn,
have some PENI M and M's and a Coke.

Speaker 2 (45:28):
Zero, and enjoy the movie.

Speaker 1 (45:29):
Nott word with the os, what the French foe and
press has to say about it? You want to watch
Young and the Wrestles, and that's fine, that's your taste. Yeah,
I want me entertained.

Speaker 2 (45:39):
I don't need to.

Speaker 3 (45:40):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (45:40):
I don't need like I had. I had a communications
professor when I was in college freshman year, and he
was he was he was you.

Speaker 2 (45:47):
He'd say, my.

Speaker 1 (45:48):
Wife and I would go to this movie and we
wouldn't speak to each other for thirty minutes after so
we could digest the movie and have a thoughtful conversation. Beautiful.
Did he take notes? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (45:57):
I don't think so. I like the guy, but it
was depending.

Speaker 1 (46:00):
On what the film is. Could you meage if they're Superman,
you don't need to not talk for thirty man.

Speaker 2 (46:04):
You and I went to a movie.

Speaker 1 (46:04):
And we didn't speak for thirty minutes after, so we
could just beautiful put our thoughts together.

Speaker 2 (46:09):
I speak to twenty hours a week.

Speaker 1 (46:11):
That's enough. We're not going to movies then, all right,
back to sports. What are we talking about? Okay, we
started talking about the Bob Marley biopic. Yeah yeah, yeah,
uh man, but you musical biopics almost feel like a
different category than actual biopics, because the greatest biopick of

(46:35):
all time is Goodfellas Henry Hill.

Speaker 2 (46:38):
I'll take your word for it. You've spoken highly of it,
as have others. Oh yeah, you haven't seen it. All right, seven, Can.

Speaker 1 (46:46):
We get back to sports here, because that's what people
are call it turning in for us. They don't need
they don't need us having. We're sports, sports and more sports,
twenty hours of sports per week. Come on, now, let's
go got feelings okay, yeah, let's talk about the astros.
I'm hating guys in the aisle. They've lost five in
a row. They have no res sourses to make any trades.
And this the Seattle manners keep climbing up standings. It's fantastic.

(47:06):
All right, everything's gonna be all right.

Speaker 2 (47:07):
That well, well, that's why we played Bob Marley.

Speaker 1 (47:09):
For the These three little birds are getting shot dead
off the stoop.

Speaker 2 (47:12):
It's not good, all right?

Speaker 1 (47:16):
Uh yeah, we may not have Joe at twelve thirty.
He's got a couple of meetings. I'm gonna hire that, Okay.
Are they with Dave Clark and Tony's Parris, Tony Parish,
Chica and Taylor Trammell. I don't who the meetings are with.

Speaker 2 (47:32):
But get that figured out. Let's go.

Speaker 1 (47:37):
Okay. Well, if I said what your meetings about, was,
I gonna say, I can't tell you. Yeah, let me
take something. Let me tell you all something. I'm gonna
peel the curtain back. We have meetings around here. Oh,
I don't tell you all about the meetings. Yeah, I
call them more interventions. All right, to other things, because
now you're just appressed. The whole Bob Marley song is
now out. We just you you included so quickly, I

(48:01):
poo poot on it.

Speaker 2 (48:04):
You know what?

Speaker 1 (48:04):
Should we will play feel good songs the rest of
the way we need to. Okay, all right, speaking of
a feel good story, did you hear what happened in
New York sadly yesterday?

Speaker 2 (48:13):
Oh, there was a shooting.

Speaker 1 (48:15):
There was a shooting the same Now it wasn't at
the NFL floors, but it was at the at building
where there the NFL is. And apparently the guy went
to the wrong went to the wrong floor. Oh, he
was trying to go to the NFL. Yes, to the
wrong elevator. You know how elevators can have like two
to nineteen and then twenty to twenty nine or whatever
the case would be. Yeah, apparently he was trying to

(48:36):
get to the NFL officers that they're shooting several people
yesterday in the building's lobby, but accidentally into the wrong
set of elevator banks. Jesus, Well, now you poo poot
on it, mat Well, thanks for bringing us up man,
I'm a little more on this. This man had a
history of mental illness, and a rambling note found on
his body suggested that he had a grievance against the

(48:57):
NFL over a claim that he suffered from chronic traumatic
of which can be only diagnosed after someone has died. Yes, CTE,
he played Yeah CT Why didn't they just they should
just said that He played high school in football in
California and nearly two decades ago, but never played in
the NFL. Apparently the TV, the reporters telling the police,

(49:20):
telling the reporters quote he had seemed to have blamed
the NFL. The NFL headquarters was located in the building,
and he mistakenly went up the wrong elevator. Bank very sad,
not necessarily a talk Stow topic, but just wanted to
pass out along.

Speaker 2 (49:33):
Well, there ain't nothing good. Look at this.

Speaker 1 (49:35):
Cubs Hall of Famer Samberg dies at sixty five. We
have NFL New York shooter targeting NFL headquarters. Jesus God, wait,
I'm going to demand that you find us a piece
of good news.

Speaker 2 (49:49):
All right, Well, stand for a break, thank God.

Speaker 1 (49:51):
Okay, So if you are on the phones and have
a piece of good news, it's a good news Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (49:57):
Well, we need some.

Speaker 1 (50:04):
Deon Sanders is cancer free. That's amazing.

Speaker 2 (50:07):
That's not terrible news for sure.

Speaker 1 (50:09):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety We need
something of good news.

Speaker 2 (50:17):
Our stroves have lost five straight.

Speaker 1 (50:20):
Uh. Oh, by the way, people are saying, Jim Carrey
is Andy Kaufman. That was pretty good too. That was
a good one. That was a really good one too.
Apparently he really got in character to that. There was
a documentary about how in case Like he stayed in
character the entire time. Well, I think Andy life, Andy
Kaufman's life was in character. He was never himself for a
very long period of time. Seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two

(50:41):
five seven ninety We need some good news from somebody.
We got gut feelings. Also coming up in fifteen minutes.
This is Sports Talk seven ninety Yeah, what a song
is this?

Speaker 7 (50:52):
Every night I.

Speaker 1 (50:54):
Hear that it's time for me to put Matt on
some vibe. Hold up, did you know about that? To bars? Medic?
Come on, well, what do you know about that?

Speaker 2 (51:01):
The bars?

Speaker 1 (51:01):
Jonathan Nowanasic? Yea, this is supposed to make me in
a better movie. You're saying this is not a jam.
Crack this up, Jonathan, tell me that to shut his
mombass up. Here's some more good news. Spirit Airlines is

(51:23):
furlowing two hundred and seventy pilots. Oh great, there's.

Speaker 2 (51:33):
No way you've heard this. Yeah, I'm telling you no.

Speaker 1 (51:37):
I know you've heard this because I remember Al Far
playing this. Maybe he got those chorus and then we
heard the chorus. I mean, well, the sounds like a
bad Michael Jackson ripoff. You're so disrespectful. No, if this,
if Matt brought us this song to the table, he'd
be talking about how it's the best. But since he

(51:58):
didn't bring it and he doesn't know it, it's well.
I mean, it takes a while for someone to appreciate
a song. Yeah, you got to buy in. So you
know what I'll do on the way home today, I'm
gonna get the greatest hit. I will pull the barge
up and listen to it, and I will give you
a more objective viewpoint of it. Is this is a
very mad I feel like it's a Matt Thomas type jam. Yeah,
all right, Philip wants to talk to us. Let's get

(52:19):
that screen and ready to go find something else? Man,
is that what we're supposed to bring now? Is just
it's just bad? I mean no, Oh, I was supposed
to find some good news. Yeah, you were supposed to
find some good news during the during the time off
we were had there.

Speaker 2 (52:33):
Hmm, okay, let's get to let me get to some news.
Go ahead.

Speaker 1 (52:37):
Uh, we have college football coming up in a few weeks. Yes,
we have which is supposed to be an amazing opening
weekend at football. Thank you college football, and for all
the things that is wrong with n IL and whatnot,
we're getting still great matchups Texas Ohio State. I mean
that is the lidlifter. The what the lid lifter? I'm

(53:03):
not familiar with that phrase. The lid lifter. Yeah, you
pull the lid off of something. That's the very first
thing you see, and the very first thing you see
is Texas versus Ohio. Are you making this up? Or
is that a phrase? No? No, I'm not king. I'm
just not familiar with. If if I walked up to you,
Johnathan and I said this this game is.

Speaker 2 (53:22):
The lid lifter. Yeah, I'm looking it up.

Speaker 1 (53:25):
Okay, No, I'm not calling you no, because I want
to make sure to make something up.

Speaker 2 (53:29):
Lid lifter, leadlifter.

Speaker 1 (53:36):
Thoughts. That's what they did. Oh yeah, that's what they
did at frat party. Lidlifter me the first game played. Yeah,
now you made me. Now you make me from where?

Speaker 4 (53:47):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (53:47):
And oh it's a baseball term. Yeah, but it's an
opening day Yeah. Oh, I mean it's a lid lifter
for it is football. Okay, lid lifter. I didn't know
you were brain like Joe DiMaggio first in the lineup
for today's leadlift. Why does every nineteen forties announcers sound
the shame to you? Vince Gone ever sounded like that
that badcast game in the fifties. The Cincinnati Red Legs

(54:10):
are in town for today's lead lifter at Crosby Field
against the Boston Sets. Actually, that'd be interleagcause that wouldn't work.
I just I don't know. I hadn't heard that before. Sorry,
but yeah, college football should be good Ohio State. I
already told you money line the Texas Long Old Ones
plus the three.

Speaker 2 (54:30):
Okay, we got that locked in.

Speaker 1 (54:31):
What's up? Texans are going to West Virginia next week
and then by the time they get back, they're gonna
go to Minneapolis play their first preseason game. We're going
to the Green bro I thought we were going. I
thought you were booking us a trip for the Greenbrier.
We're gonna go to the casino. We don't have that
in the budget. Plus, if we went in Wexton go,
he'd lose his mind. Ooh that's true, honestly, Yeah, but

(54:52):
Wexkin's gifts, he would start lifting lids. He would not
be little lifted. He'd be splitting wigs, kicking those lids open.
And I heard a week split a I haven't heard
of lid lift. Yeah, what is it? What is a
wig splitter? I'm curious. I have not heard that phrase?
All right? Anyways, Joshan, you ever you ever split a
wig before?

Speaker 10 (55:12):
What I feel like I know what this is and
I don't only respond to it. I don't know is
it's go to urban dictionary for this. M all right,
wigs splitter?

Speaker 2 (55:27):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (55:28):
I thought lid lifter was something you'd heard before. No,
I did not, Like I said. You know, you learn.

Speaker 2 (55:33):
You're trying to teach people things new every day on
the show.

Speaker 1 (55:35):
Chris Spree Speaker and speaker Chris Speaker and the boys
out there lifting lids. You know what it is. You
have to you have to think of different ways of saying, Oh,
try something. Of course, opened the vocabulary. It's like, thank yes, man,
teach me about vocabulary.

Speaker 2 (55:51):
Uh, there's a gambit of games to watch.

Speaker 1 (55:55):
They're gam it as well. Yeah, like when you're writing
pre game, you gotta say the local nine, you gotta
say squad, you gotta say Houston. You gotta say stros.
You gotta say Ernie all the time, ere a Ernie.
Sometimes you just say it earned run average. Yeah, you
do all mix it up, I got you. Yeah. Broadcasting
one on one with Matt Thomas, Well, that's because it

(56:15):
makes you know, are you you have to use the
common vernacular of today with with phrases of yesterday.

Speaker 2 (56:20):
I'm like, I'm like Sonny playing your hits of yesterday
and today.

Speaker 1 (56:25):
It's beautiful.

Speaker 9 (56:25):
Matt.

Speaker 1 (56:25):
What a cunning linguist you are.

Speaker 2 (56:28):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (56:28):
Philip in Pariland, Matt Thomas show Ross Philip, good morning
to you.

Speaker 4 (56:33):
Good morning gentlemen. Uh interventions. Want to hear more about
that lid lifter. I've never heard that phrase.

Speaker 2 (56:39):
Well, now you know something.

Speaker 1 (56:40):
Yeah, Matt's here to teach you, Philip, come on now.

Speaker 4 (56:43):
Yeah, Ross, I love your voices man, especially from the forties. Yes, sir, yeah,
do it more. And when the two of you do
the Louisiana thing, that's that's fun. I like that. Jured
I'm glad he's laughing down For the good news. We
have a great team. We're getting a bowload of pitchers,

(57:05):
you know in waves. We have a great owner.

Speaker 1 (57:08):
And the Yankee suck.

Speaker 6 (57:11):
I mean.

Speaker 4 (57:13):
It's a good day, right.

Speaker 1 (57:15):
You're right, Philip, thank you. It's a beautiful day to
be alive. He just dropped off. He said, owner a
good player, Yankee suck. Good players, be all right? Still
three games in the first place. What is going on
with the Yankees? They are in second? They are five
and a half out of first place? Are they? They're
still in a wildcard. Oh, they're the first wildcard, but

(57:36):
only by a game. Tampa, Texas, Seattle, all those teams
are very very close. Just beat the Mariners, please, who
got Josh Naylor and might make more moves because they
have one of the better farm systems in baseball. And
Dan Brown might have to sit on his hands. And
Cal Rawley is still crushing the baseball. Oh my god,

(57:58):
he's on pacer sixty three home runs now. Yeah, so
you know what, I'm burying something today on the show.
Go Ahead. I still don't want my guys doing it,
but I'm not. I'm going to officially bury that. If
you compete in the home run derby, it doesn't ruin
your swing for the rest of the year. Thank you.
I've been telling you this for years, Matt.

Speaker 2 (58:16):
I don't listen to you very often.

Speaker 1 (58:17):
Oh, I know.

Speaker 2 (58:19):
You should listen to me.

Speaker 1 (58:20):
I give you, I gave you lift, sir.

Speaker 2 (58:24):
It is kind of a tongue twisting. You don't say
it a lot.

Speaker 1 (58:26):
I don't know. I've said it probably in ten years.

Speaker 2 (58:31):
In seventy six years.

Speaker 1 (58:34):
Sorry, I couldn't help myself. Okay, So if that's nineteen
forties play by play game, okay, give me nineteen sixty six.
I don't know nineteen sixty sixties because it's it's because
you've basically taken everybody that you listen to, every any
old broadcast. It's nineteen sixty six. Sandy Kopeks and the
Boys and the Trolley. Dodgers are in town, Hayley Eyes.

(59:00):
It's not a California Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball the golden
age of Hollywood Dodger Stadium, I mean, the only place
they've ever played. Well, they played at the LA Coliseum
for a while before the stadium was built. Its historic.

Speaker 2 (59:18):
By the way, do you see the speedway for this
weekend in Bristol?

Speaker 1 (59:21):
I did an article on it. They're gonna have eighty
five thousand people at this thing, set in a record. Now,
have you seen the dimensions yet I have not. I've
seen a photo of it, but I did not see
the dimensions. Hmmm, yeah, I think it's six hundred and
five feet to right. Well, you know what you could do.
You can put it, you might make whatever you want.
You can do whatever you want because you're playing it
inside the circle. It's not like it's it's a narrow track. Yeah,

(59:45):
there's a huge area from one side of the track
to the other. You're just basically just plopping a baseball
feel in the middle of a track like where they
don't call it the green set, where they call it
the not the they called the pit.

Speaker 2 (59:56):
No, they what's the middle area.

Speaker 1 (59:58):
Of Yeah, oh, I know what you're talking on the
field or just the uh whatever that area is called.
They're taking that area making people screaming out, oh my god.
The infield in.

Speaker 2 (01:00:10):
Field Yeah yeah, yeah, the infield, that's what they call her.

Speaker 1 (01:00:13):
So so the infield is gonna see. I love gimmicky
stuff like that for one game. I love when the
Major league teams go to Williamsport and play every year
in that one game, I think it's just the infield. Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:00:27):
I love it when basketball teams play on cruise ships.
All right, that was a little much. And the tankers, yeah, yeah,
it was cool.

Speaker 1 (01:00:34):
They hit the wave and the ball bounced out of
the goal. That was crazy. I hated that one time, John,
you hate this. One of the players went to go
get a basketball and he fell off the ship.

Speaker 2 (01:00:42):
Yeah, it was very violent. About what seven or eight
years ago?

Speaker 1 (01:00:45):
I think it was Duke playing North Carolina State on
the uss Ulysses. I know they actually play on the ship,
But do you remember that when that guy fell off
the boat going after the basketball. No, that's not that
was a technical foul.

Speaker 2 (01:01:01):
That was a loose ball foul.

Speaker 1 (01:01:03):
So loide news.

Speaker 2 (01:01:05):
No, you're right, I've made that up.

Speaker 1 (01:01:08):
I'm trying to get away with stuff with you. This
is actually becoming one of my favorite bits. I'm here.
My goal is to make sure I tell one horrific
lie to Jonathan per day. He's so young and gullible.
Why are you taking advantage? Next time you hear something
at listen to me. Next time you hear something you

(01:01:29):
filmn't think I'm telling the truth. I want you to
hit the buzzer and you can if you can figure
it out. Correct. The problem is I'm going to direct
and say, hey, John, remember this time this happened. So
it's my it's my opportunity here to at least tell
you some things that are the truth. And you gotta
figure out what Want'm lying to you when I'm telling
you the truth. Oh my God, got you all right?
Eleven twenty nine on Sports Talk seven, No, I need

(01:01:50):
somebody to somebody nw harass you've you've been around for
fifteen years, for fifteen years with you all right? Uh?
Seven three two two five seven ninety We need some
serious This isn't maybe perhaps the most important gut feelings
we've had in a while. What is ultimately your gut
feeling of what the Astros are going to do at

(01:02:11):
the deadline? If you think you know what they're going
to get, not necessarily what player, but how do they
fix what's going on now? Seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven ninety listen up, been so appeals that Tommy'll

(01:02:32):
they got a good deal.

Speaker 2 (01:02:35):
This is their gut feeling. On The Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 1 (01:02:40):
Eleven thirty five, Sports Talks seven ninety seven one three
two one two fives off a night I've told you
about our listener Mike that emails me almost every day
the Astros loose. Oh, so you've been getting a lot
of emails. Your inbox is full, you know, you know
he calls sometimes, and I know Michael listens every day. Mike,
good eye, good morning to you. I'll read you go

(01:03:01):
outside and get some sunshine, Mike, put a smile on
your face. Well, listeners, put on a record that makes
you happy. All right, So I want to I want
to read some of his uh probably during the news
and now, but it's great. It'll just uh, it'll make
you sad. By the way, Charlie Martin throwing the day
for the Orioles. Oh really in his last start before
he might get traded. I don't know, you think no,
if he's.

Speaker 2 (01:03:20):
Getting traded, he's not a pitcher today.

Speaker 1 (01:03:22):
Right, Maybe I guess he could. All right, how do
we do last week? By the way, last week's gut feelings, Matt,
You have the WNBA coming to Houston. Bye twenty thirty one. Yeah,
I feel good about that. You're not gonna feel good
about this one. Go ahead, Astros five and one in

(01:03:43):
their next six games. Well, I mean, if I said
five is the LS you have Memphis going to the
PAC twelve. Did that happen yet? Nope, Gunna, And you
wrote zero home runs for the rest of the year
for your don.

Speaker 2 (01:04:05):
Still a possibility.

Speaker 1 (01:04:07):
I still am going over zero. Well, I mean you'd
be the favorite on that, so you know, I'm obviously
all right getting the points.

Speaker 3 (01:04:15):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (01:04:15):
I said, Bryce Matthews home run in the next week,
and he got a home run the next day he
had three. Well it was the day after he had two. Okay,
I got I said, I'll have another one within the
next week, and he got one. Thank god. We get
that one in. And has he had any more hits
than since then? We don't have to talk about that's
had more hits? Uh, Cooper Hummel or Bryce Matthews in
the last week got hit yesterday? You did one of four?

(01:04:37):
Nice By the way, shout out to the Orioles plane.
Eleven thirty five AM games. That's twelve thirty years time.
But I mean that's a good way to spend lunch
in Baltimore. I mean it's safer there. I mean, Bolt,
We're not the safest place. Continue on, I have lancem
Kellers Junior with a quality start the next time he's out.
You might have to delete that. No, you can't delete.

(01:04:59):
Now you make fun of me for myself that I
get wrong. I don't. I don't ever ask you to delete.
Oh really whatever, it's gonna be nice.

Speaker 2 (01:05:06):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (01:05:07):
Every day, I said, off season hand procedure for yord
On got feeling.

Speaker 2 (01:05:12):
Sounds good to me.

Speaker 1 (01:05:13):
And I said, he'll hit two home runs at least
the remainder of this season. Okay, what did Jonathan have
to say? Well, he flew close to the sun. He said,
Astros atop the a l by August fifth top record.
They didn't get it by. They didn't get it by. Yeah,
that's win. They were tied win and then five in

(01:05:38):
a row and now they're falling off the map unfortunately.
And then he said six home runs for yord On
the rest of the year. Mmm, just being whimsical. You
know what, your your captain, your captain, glass half full.
We appreciate that. I mean, for somebody's got to counteract
Mic on the on the emails. Oh uh, you know
I'm gonna read mics. No, okay, yeah, we got least Okay,

(01:06:01):
because Mike's, Mike's and Murray from the last two days
have been pretty good gut feeling for Thursday. Drum roll,
all right, we want your gut feelings on the Astros
tomorrow by Friday. Now, I don't know if Dana is
gonna be on tomorrow. I would I would almost rather
listen to Dana the day after the trade deadline than
the day before. I don't know what there's well with Sean.
The point being isis the Astros are going to get

(01:06:26):
a left handed bat and they are going to get
a right handed reliever, okay, and they are going to
have to move in one of those two deals a
active member of the twenty six man rotation, twenty six man.

Speaker 2 (01:06:43):
Squad, whomever that may be.

Speaker 1 (01:06:48):
So I will say that at the very end, you
will see deals that will involve a right handed reliever
a left handed bat, and it will involve the trade
will involve of sending that team an active player. Now,
I'm gonna give you switch hitting bat as well, because
I might never.

Speaker 2 (01:07:04):
So do I get switch hit us on that. Okay,
I'll take the switch.

Speaker 1 (01:07:08):
And I'm going to tell you that you're to help
you that it's not going to be one of those
wow moment moves. It'll be a very mid at very
very best kind of deal. That's my gun. On the Astros,
I think they get a bat as well. I'm gonna
go six seven out of ten bat like with a
castro fit that bill. Let me ask you this will

(01:07:28):
the ask will they will the bat of the player
ops be above seven to fifty? No, seven hundred better
be that makes it four or five? Seven fifty bad?

Speaker 2 (01:07:41):
Ops?

Speaker 1 (01:07:41):
Is a six five? You said six to seven, didn't
you on that?

Speaker 2 (01:07:45):
On the bat? Yeah, I think seven to fifty has
to be a six to seven.

Speaker 1 (01:07:48):
Well castro how about ops plus over one.

Speaker 2 (01:07:50):
Hundred better than average?

Speaker 1 (01:07:52):
You are self minutia filled to day you start calling
you mister Minutia.

Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
You've been calling me that for years. That's true.

Speaker 1 (01:07:58):
I've called you other things behind your That's okay. I
usually hear back. Don't worry, I got a voodoo doll um.
I'm gonna yeah, I'm gonna say left handed or switch
hitting bat okay, as well. Pitcher I'm gonna say, infielder okay,
or versatile or well you know what. They got to

(01:08:19):
get their base fixed at the bare minimum ross because
let me tell you a gang, he's not he's not
coming back come snow.

Speaker 2 (01:08:25):
Come on, let's be honest about this.

Speaker 1 (01:08:27):
Okay, I'm with you. A right handed reliever, yep, and
that's it. That's it, because I feel three moves would
be I mean really, either pulling apart members of your
current roster or what's in your minor leagues and Justin
Verlander will not be coming back. Don't even write that down.
You don't get that, all right, Jonathan, what do you have?

Speaker 10 (01:08:50):
I'm going to say, after this and looking at the
Al Al West standings, excuse me, it's going to be
a dog by between one and two games for first
place by the end of the season between Seattle and
the Rangers and the Astros is gonna be a one
game deficit.

Speaker 1 (01:09:09):
One game. So you're saying the Astros do not win
the AL West? Is that what you're saying? If they do?
See he's saying it's coming the race comes down to
one game. Oh, so the winner of the division, I'll
try to paraphrase for you, the winner division wins this
division by one game. Do you want to pick a
winner or you're just gonna say it's coming down to it? Oh,

(01:09:32):
already every week on Tuesday we do this. No, this
is what I'm doing one game deficit. Now, remember, folks,
he has SFA beating you of age. So take everything,
take everything he says with the grain of salt. Y'all
can come. I will put my Twitter public just for y'all.
Oh that's how confident I am.

Speaker 3 (01:09:52):
Just this.

Speaker 1 (01:09:53):
I must stand on my ground here. That is hilarious.
You and hit with a baton too many times. But okay,
I got another bad gut feeling you don't want to hear.
Go ahead, Mariners make significant move. I don't know for what,
if it's another bat or a picture or what I mean.
They go. They got pretty good pitching. But Mariners make

(01:10:14):
another significant move. I gotta move. I got one for you.
This is very lame. Youhineo Suarez is somewhere else in
three days, Okay, where you gonna put my name on that?
You don't have to. I'm just gonna say that should
be a borderline half star selection if I get that right,
I mean yeah, I will also predict the sun will rise. Okay,

(01:10:36):
you know I don't even count that. You're right, You're
absolutely right. Why am I doing that? I mean, there's
too much smoke for you, Heneo to be there first.
Of all, why would be shocked. Yeah, yeah, they don't
need them. They're already they're already selling. All right, let's
go to Doug, Bobby and James would come back back
to Seattle.

Speaker 2 (01:10:55):
If that's the case, I'm taking weeks off. Weeks.

Speaker 1 (01:10:58):
Yeah, I'll talk to your Rockets media day. Okay, I'll
give you my salary. Wha, Yeah, it'd be worth your while. Yeah,
we need to split me a little. Five hundred four.
I got you, I got your chunk. Eleven forty eleven
forty four on Sports Talk seven ninety is a Matt
Thomas shold ross. Those of you on hold, we'll get
to you if you want any of your gut feelings
in let's go right now. Seven one three two one

(01:11:21):
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven nine zero. All right, you heard from us.
Now it's time to hear from the great people of
Houston or least callers. Seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven. Honey,

(01:11:42):
if you've got gut feelings, let your voice be heard
here before we get to the top of the hour
of the news at noon, and then we're gonna read
a couple of my buddy Mike's emails because he hates life.
Seven one three, two one two five, seven ninety Bobby
Immemorial on seven ninety Bobby, what's in your gut this week?

Speaker 11 (01:11:59):
My god is we're not going to be able to
get much because we don't have much to give because
everybody's injured. But one thing that I think that we
could do with what we have is do a little
more stealing, a little more hit and run, put the
ball in play when people are on base. We are

(01:12:22):
horrific at moving runners along, as the three for twenty
nine in the series against Oakland suggests. And the other
night we get a guy on base all two they
hits into a double play. You know, you can disagree
with me all you want, but I'm watching this. I've
been watching it for a long time. The other night,
the guy I think was for Oakland walked, stole second,

(01:12:45):
went to third on a wall pitch, and scored on
a sac fly and we lost two to one. You
gotta do something offensively to create traffic.

Speaker 1 (01:12:56):
EDWARDO.

Speaker 11 (01:12:57):
Fees on Sunday Night said the Giants are having troubles
boring runs. They need to do hit and runs, this
and that, and especially since about five of our players
career batting averages in the majors or under one eighty.
You have to do something, have a philosophy and very fresh.

Speaker 1 (01:13:16):
They can't get hits. How are you gonna hit and
run well?

Speaker 11 (01:13:19):
Lay a bun down, draw long play? You know you
can't let me ask you this question. How are you
going to fix three for twenty nine?

Speaker 1 (01:13:30):
How are you you're gonna get better players to get
healthy in play? I mean, this is not a major
league roster out there now. You got to but them
home from second? I mean, come on, you got Bobby, No,
you can tell I'm asking questions?

Speaker 2 (01:13:42):
Bobby?

Speaker 1 (01:13:42):
Do you know who's out there? Do you do you
know that Taylor Tremmell is not a long term major leaguer?
Do you know that Bryce Matthews is up here way
too early? Do you know he'll give me some more names?
Zach Couper, hum Cooper Hummel. These are not major league
baseball players, They're just nine.

Speaker 11 (01:13:58):
But get them to hit the ball the other way?

Speaker 1 (01:14:06):
By matt is fucking cut. He literally walked out of this.
You know, if they would just listen to Bobby, he's
actually gone. It's okay. If they would just listen to
Bobby and hit the ball the other way, lay down
some months, move the runners, and they would be They

(01:14:28):
would be scoring fifteen runs a game. I don't understand
why every team in baseball doesn't just put the ball
in play and move the runners over and bunts. It's
the simple fundamentals of baseball. I mean, you look at
all the top offenses in baseball. I'm sure you could see.

(01:14:49):
Let's see who's number one in run score. Probably the
Dodgers or the Yankees. I bet you all that went
back the way. I bet you they both lead the
majors in bunts. They they must do that, right. It's
twenty twenty five, folks, Please obviously football around dog.

Speaker 2 (01:15:14):
What's in your gut?

Speaker 12 (01:15:16):
What was the guy that he used to always call in?
I think it was the twenty nineteen season.

Speaker 1 (01:15:21):
Gotta gotta go the other way, gotta James and Alvin
he still calls sometimes God with the asside pitch.

Speaker 12 (01:15:27):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 2 (01:15:29):
Uh, the last couple of years still too.

Speaker 12 (01:15:32):
Okay, Well, I mean this is this is the perfect
scenario for that to happen. But I mean I kind
of see it the way that the last caller saw it.
I'm not gonna go as far as into my my
feelings because of that, but I just don't think we
have the ammunition to get what we need at this point.
And honestly, we lose a lot of players this year too.

(01:15:53):
We're gonna lose Fromber, You're gonna lose Dubon. You're probably
gonna lose.

Speaker 1 (01:15:56):
Jake Myers, don't forget Vitch your carten.

Speaker 12 (01:16:00):
So I mean, it's great that these guys are kind
of getting some time up here with Bryce Matthews, Jacob Melton,
Cam Smith, because guess what, we're gonna have to lean
on those guys next year to actually be productive and
be major league players. So unfortunately, I think we're gonna
have to stand pat and just pray that some of
these injuries work out and.

Speaker 7 (01:16:20):
Turn the right way.

Speaker 12 (01:16:21):
And I still think we'll make the playoffs. I just
don't think we'll win the division, all Right.

Speaker 1 (01:16:27):
That's just gut feeling. Making the playoffs not one of
the division. Oh, I got a late I got a
late gut feeling. Okay, you're gonna hate this. You are
absolutely gonna hate this. You ready, you better write this down? Okay,
put it in all caps. Okay, I'm I'll put my
name out. But it's it's such a crazy ass prediction.
There will be no baseball played in twenty twenty seven

(01:16:53):
for the entire year. I don't think so. All right,
right down? No, but in caps, No, they will not.
They will not shoot themselves in the foot.

Speaker 2 (01:17:03):
You hear me, Lease twenty twenty seven, there will be
a lost season.

Speaker 1 (01:17:11):
I could see a shortened season. Okay, I hope you're right.
I hope, I'm I hope. I couldn't be more incorrect
the entire I'm gonna call you from the nursing home
when this happens.

Speaker 2 (01:17:26):
Why you wouldn't you gonna be there. You're gonna pick
up your phone, your phone and Room one thirty three,
We take something.

Speaker 1 (01:17:33):
If you call me while my night nurses giving me
in my bath, there's gonna be some problems. That's sick.
She's gonna welcome in diper, She's not gonna bathe You
want me at that point? I hope. I mean, you
could be right, but I think you're wrong. Just say
I'm wrong and just call it a day. Brandon, What's
what's in your gut?

Speaker 2 (01:17:52):
This week?

Speaker 12 (01:17:54):
Afternoon?

Speaker 1 (01:17:54):
Guys, I just have a quick one here.

Speaker 5 (01:17:56):
Uh My gut is telling me that between Bobby and
James and garden Oaks, loss is going to have a
coronary body.

Speaker 1 (01:18:06):
Matt was the one that got I've been riding left,
but yes, James and garden Oaks the worst to the
American Bay City horrible. We have about seven or eight
that are just im I'm gonna say the Astros are
still winning the WST.

Speaker 2 (01:18:27):
I'm sorry we didn't hear you.

Speaker 1 (01:18:28):
The Astros are still winning the bill and San Antonio,
what's in your gut this week?

Speaker 12 (01:18:35):
Uh?

Speaker 13 (01:18:35):
Well, I wanted to say one thing. I'm a long
time Houston person. I've been living in Houston for well
I'm seventy four, but it's I don't live in Houston anymore.
But I always remember saying that I remembered at the
time in Houston when I was there, and it was Houston.
We have a problem, and that's the way I feel

(01:18:56):
right now about the Astros. We have a problem. But
it's not physical. You know, they always knock at all
these ball players, do you know what they made it
to the major league?

Speaker 1 (01:19:06):
Ten of them are on the major league roster because
they would rather be space cowboys. If the Astros had
their way, there could be four hooks on that squad.

Speaker 13 (01:19:14):
You're you're you're right about that, You're about that, And
baseball starts at a very young age, and that age
on up. Once he told the just kind of a
ball player, and they made they made the test. They
made it, even if it is three eight, you know,
they made the tests. And now they're they get into
chants play at the major league levels, and we got

(01:19:35):
to get in their heads. Not that he get.

Speaker 1 (01:19:39):
So. So every triple A player can be So every
triple A player can be a major league star if
only they just got it right mentally. Yeah, look, oh
my god.

Speaker 13 (01:19:49):
That's what seven?

Speaker 4 (01:19:51):
You know?

Speaker 1 (01:19:52):
He he's how many how many more five how many
five foot seven successful major league players are they ever?
And the his of baseball like two? How many five
seven people are there on the planet?

Speaker 2 (01:20:06):
How big is.

Speaker 1 (01:20:10):
Oh my god? He also has the best basketball skills
I've ever seen.

Speaker 2 (01:20:14):
Are you leaving or you're staying?

Speaker 1 (01:20:15):
God, walk out of here left?

Speaker 2 (01:20:19):
Yeah, I'm staying.

Speaker 1 (01:20:20):
All right, it's your turn matter and I'm out of here.

Speaker 2 (01:20:26):
The floor is yours. We'll go ahead. Get I want
to hear this.

Speaker 13 (01:20:30):
Okay, psychology in baseball, suh.

Speaker 12 (01:20:33):
You know where it starts.

Speaker 13 (01:20:34):
The psychology and baseball starts at that head coach. I
like the hit coach when he's got all the players.
He's a great coach. But a great coach man can
do it with just ordinary players. He should be able
to fire him up enough to get that. Like like
the other the other person was saying before that, moving

(01:20:57):
players down. You don't have to be a home run later.
You just got to do something positive in and right
now that whole team is not doing anything positive. And
anytime they make a mistakes to pa the pitching all right.

Speaker 1 (01:21:11):
And that Now we're gonna Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
We just got a text from our buddy Chris Cordy.
By what, Happy birthday to Chris Gordy. If you're listening,
Happy birthday. I hope you're not listening.

Speaker 2 (01:21:31):
Huh. It's Chris Gordy's Birthda It's Chris Gordy's birthday.

Speaker 1 (01:21:35):
Get on Facebook, real wish I'm happy birth on Facebook.
I'm not seventy six. I'm not seventy six either. A
lot of people are on Facebook. Sorry, Ross, it's you know, yeah, Okay,
excuse a little older, but it's not like it's nothing
but eighty year old's on there.

Speaker 2 (01:21:50):
Gordy's younger than you are, right, he's older than me?

Speaker 6 (01:21:54):
Is he?

Speaker 1 (01:21:55):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (01:21:56):
I can't believe you. It insulting like that. Actually have a.

Speaker 1 (01:21:58):
Birthday to Gordy and he's send us the most ridiculous
thing I've ever seen on Twitter. No, that can that's
that's trying to be nice. It's too high of a bar.
Something called the Astros. Josh Okay wants to make the
following deal. Twins trade Korea and Castro. That's a utility.

(01:22:22):
He plays everywhere. He's got an ops A seven sixty
two bowie Willie is w I L l I and
include twenty three million per season of the remaining contract.
Astros trade aj blue Ball and Zach Short of the Twins. Still,

(01:22:43):
I don't know if this is smart for the Astros.
Is that the dumbest tweet you'll ever see of the day?
Good Lord, No wonder why Astros Twitter sucks? I mean,
send this to Minnesota they would laugh their ass off.

(01:23:06):
I mean, my god, blue Ball, pal Short, you get Correa,
who is your everyday at their basement granted, he makes
a lot of money, and he is got an ih Castro.
Now he's basically probably a little bit of a better

(01:23:28):
offensive improvement than Mauricio Dubam, but not a whole lot better. Right,
And you're telling the Astros. You're telling the Twins to
pay twenty three million dollars in the remaining contract. AJ
blue Ball's eras around six at Triple A. I think,

(01:23:50):
why have we gone? Oh, keep breath manning, It's okay.
We have been. We have been a relevant baseball town
since twenty fifteen. Okay, sixteen to make the playoffs seventeen
on yes, wild card in fifteen, beat the Yankees in
a wild card, Thank you very much, Dallas Kichele, Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:24:11):
Why do we have the soda?

Speaker 1 (01:24:14):
First of all, that guy should not be Astros, Josh,
he should be something way worse. AJ blue Ball's whip
at Triple A at age twenty four to one point
six one six. Oh, I guess he's saying that you
would the Astros would pay the twenty three million per
CU day. Okay, that makes a little more sense. But
even so, it makes more sense you just you're training it.

(01:24:36):
They're trading them sloppy Joe's and trying to get prime
rate back. I like a good sloppy Joe. Yeah, underrated
Sunds slapper Joe. Huh, don't be eting on sloppy Joe's.
I like sloppy Joe's. He like good a lot of sloppy.
Time for the News at Noon, Today's News the Noon

(01:24:58):
is that's a dumb ass tweet.

Speaker 2 (01:25:02):
Be better Houston.

Speaker 1 (01:25:03):
Seriously, cashro and Korea for blue Ball and friends and
Zach Short. What does Zach Short get you in the market?
I mean, I'm asking for a friend. He plays a
pretty good short stop. He's a thirty year old journeyman.
Owned career ops plus of fifty eight at thirty years old. Yeah,

(01:25:32):
all right, Matt. Sorry. News at Noon. Yes, we have
talked about the Houston Astros and their loss, but we
have not well since the beginning of the show Reset
talking about from Er Valdez very unhappy with the defensive positioning. Yesterday,

(01:25:53):
speaking to the media after the game, talking about the
grounder hit by Nathaniel Lowe, brother of Josh Lowe, not
related to Brandon Law. When he hit the grounder, I
thought it was going to be out when I saw
it went through, I said, oh, it's going to be
a hit, as in a single. But I saw the
right fielder playing center field. You know we have a

(01:26:13):
center fielder for that. I feel like the right fielder
should have been playing right field. I'm uncomfortable with that.
That feels like there's no room for a misinterpretation with
Si'm no misunderstanding what Fromer wanted to say. He didn't
like that the right fielder was playing all the way
in center. Should have been a single and not a double.
Josh Bell, one of the slowest runners in all baseball,

(01:26:37):
barely made it home. Joe Spotted not asked about the
play after the loss because his news conference was before Fromer.
Valdez talked in the club house quality assurance coaches from
Chandler RUMs article quality assurance coach Jason bell In, first
base coach Dave Clark or Houston's two outfield instructors and

(01:26:58):
responsible for positioning, and gains Valde that he did not
approach them with his concerns, and.

Speaker 2 (01:27:03):
He's like, why don't need to approach could you can
do your job?

Speaker 1 (01:27:07):
But of course, if you look at Nathaniel Low and
first of all, the history of Farmer lefty on lefty.
Not a lot of fly balls hit to right field.
Not a lot of batt balls to right field. And
Low himself is kind of an opo type hitter, so
understandable why they were positioned in a certain way. But
Farmer Veld is not happy about it. Matthew, Nope and

(01:27:27):
uh we uh Joe spot us still in meetings. We're
hoping to grab him in the one pm hour of
this show. Yes, all right, textans anything new on that
we'll get from Wax coming up in a little bit.

Speaker 2 (01:27:37):
How about that?

Speaker 1 (01:27:38):
Yeah, when's he supposed to join us?

Speaker 2 (01:27:39):
Talk to one?

Speaker 1 (01:27:40):
Okay, coming up next? All right, real quick, Mike, our
friend Mike who sends me emails. Oh great, this is
the one from Sunday. Done with effing Astros? Oh did
don't watch turn off? You better not send you one
more email? Tell tell him I said it, stay with me,
don't send it. So he sends me this and I
responded back to you yesterday on I said, You're not done.

Speaker 2 (01:28:01):
Done with the fing Astros.

Speaker 1 (01:28:03):
Worst display of baseball over four games series since before
they got good. Brown is a mess and other players
are horrible. Also, injured players taking an extended vacation as
best as I can tell. Don't see how this gets
any better. So if he's done with the Astros, he
would not have sent me an email about today. Oh
and then he also says Brown was stupid to mention

(01:28:25):
Preidis was hurt worse than expected. That shuts the door
on a lot of possibilities with teams not knowing we
are in a desperate position. What Brown is pure dumbass,
So I doubt an He needs to be replaced so bad.
Dana Brown is pure dumbass. The guy that got you
Cam Smith, estoch Pretis and Hayden was an ESKI for
one year of Kyle Tucker. That guy's a dumbass. The

(01:28:46):
guy that isn't covered along with the the pitching brain
trust or whatever you want to call it, guys like
Brian King and Steven Ochred and Bennett Susa off the
scrap heap who are effective relievers for you, Tyger Scott
last year, not so much this year. Who drafted Bryce
Matthews in the first round in two years? Okay, yeah,
he needs a little bit more seasoning in the minor leagues,

(01:29:07):
but showing some promise as a young player. That guy
that's the idiot. It's just a five game losing streak. People.
They are three games in first place, three games in
first place. They got eighteen people on the injured list.

(01:29:28):
Everything that can go wrong has gone wrong this season
and they're in first place. Where did we get so spoiled?
How did this happen? Everyone is acting like they're they're
freaking Oakland A's okay, Sacramento A's okay, they just swept you.
I get it. This is absurd. We're talking about a

(01:29:52):
team that's in first freaking place. What is happening right now?
You're too you're too close? Okay, all right, James On
what are you speaking of on that? I don't know
you're talking about? X joins us next from some Texans
Talk twelve fifteen on Sports Talk seven ninety. All right,

(01:30:16):
let's get you what's happening at the Texans training facility,
and we'll do that with our buddy Adam. WEXS are
nice enough to join us again today. We won't need
him tomorrow because tomorrow, in this mode, we'll be an
Astros pregame as the Astros will have a chance to
win the series against the Diamondbacks or against the Nationals
because they're going to win today and they're gonna hopefully

(01:30:36):
win tomorrow, and we're gonna have better callers today than
we had or tomorrow we had today, Okay, because today has.

Speaker 2 (01:30:42):
Been a rough day.

Speaker 1 (01:30:47):
Yeah, yeah, I'm trying to I'm sorry, I'm trying to
stay calm.

Speaker 2 (01:30:49):
Yeah, I want to say calm.

Speaker 1 (01:30:51):
I know, not finishing. We are. We are an interactive
show that believes the interaction is a key. But we've
had some doozies today. Okay, thank god Wax is here
for some levity. Wax, what did you see this afternoon?
And good afternoon, thank you for joining us.

Speaker 9 (01:31:05):
Great to be with you guys, Pads again today. So
a little analysis of the offensive line obviously continues. They're
probably not going to have a lot of days where
we say, oh man, they dominated up front because quite frankly,
the group across from him has just flat out better
than them, and that's the concern for the upcoming season.
Continue to see a rotation at center that's it looks like,

(01:31:27):
quite honestly, that's really the only position battle among the
five that likely will start against the Rams next month.
Jared Patterson and Jake Andrews continue to each get first
team reps at center. I would imagine they'd like to
settle in on who is the starting center sometime soon.
I'm guessing I'll guess Patterson, and I'll continue to tell
you that. You know, tay Ersrie has gotten all the

(01:31:48):
reps with the ones over at right tackle, and he
continues to get reps as the backups come in over
at left tackle. He's going to be starting for this team.
It looks like this year, and I think there's a
real chance he's starting left.

Speaker 2 (01:32:00):
Tackle the future.

Speaker 9 (01:32:02):
He better play well, but he's obviously outplaying the players
or advanced further than the players he's competing with.

Speaker 1 (01:32:08):
Do you say I'm watching this Ersery young man, man
he is really performing well?

Speaker 2 (01:32:13):
Or you like man?

Speaker 1 (01:32:14):
They must be so bad that Erser is getting every
opportunity to be a starter in his rookie year.

Speaker 9 (01:32:19):
It's much more of the latter, but second round picks
on the offensive line they start all the time. It's
not crazy to think that the problem is this is
the fourth consecutive year the Texans has spent an early
pick on an offensive lineman, and they definitely did not
hit with Kenyon Green. I think it's pretty clear with
Juice Scruggs running with the third team. They did not
hit with Juice Scruggs, which was a massive overdraft, And

(01:32:40):
Blake Fisher's running second team right tackle. As he heads
into a year or two Erseri's already obviously much further
progressed than them. Determining whether he's actually really very good
is the next thing in line. He's just clearly giving
them a better chance than the guys he's competing with.
And Trent Brown, one of the veterans they signed, still
has not come off the pup list. He's obviously not

(01:33:00):
a part of the competition yet.

Speaker 1 (01:33:02):
Now, Wax, I believe that ninety percent of any audience,
unless it's the ten percent that are just deep in
the weeds on the offensive line, they.

Speaker 2 (01:33:11):
Don't particularly care who's up front. They just want to
have improvement.

Speaker 1 (01:33:15):
So not that I'm asking you to go back in
your memory banks, but when you look at them, no
matter what combination is out there, no matter who plays
where and who's swinging and who's playing at center, do
you see okay things will look a little better or
is it just impossible right now to do that, because again,
you're going against yourself, You're not going full speed on

(01:33:36):
every one of the drills, and that we really, logistically,
realistically have to wait till September for our first real,
true glimpse of whether or not this offensive line is
better today than it was the end of last season.

Speaker 9 (01:33:48):
What you want to do when you clearly have problems
on the offensive line and you're spending a lot on
that offensive line because most of it is better in
players that make too much money, You got.

Speaker 1 (01:33:56):
To build it.

Speaker 9 (01:33:57):
You have to start building young talent on this line.
That's where this team is kind of up against it
that they're not building it. They have one player that
I would say I comfortably believe will be starting even
in twenty twenty six, let alone twenty twenty seven, And
that's the real issue they have. Their idea of getting
better from last year to this year is clearly not
talent based. It is coaching technique, offensive coordinator changes. Almost

(01:34:21):
everything they've put into being better this year upfront is
based on those things. Because we can't lie until you
Tomlinson or Robinson or the other players they brought in
from other teams are strong players.

Speaker 1 (01:34:33):
They're not.

Speaker 9 (01:34:34):
They've had many years of starting in the league Tomlinson's
an average guard. Robinson is a below average tackle. Both
of them are currently likely to start here.

Speaker 1 (01:34:46):
What do you think about the conversation from last year
was that the center was making the calls and there's
a lot of misprotection and rotating guys. As far as
Nick Cayley here in his system has there been a
lot of discussion about who basically is the the captain
of the offensive line as far as calling protections.

Speaker 9 (01:35:03):
That's why they need to make a decision on who
that starter is, because I think Patterson did a markedly
better job than anyone that he's been playing with the
last two years.

Speaker 2 (01:35:10):
And Andrews has.

Speaker 9 (01:35:11):
A little bit of familiarity with Cole Popovich from their
time at Troy, but both of them are learning a
new offense with Kayhley, and I think the sooner they
get to, you know, the joint practice with the Panthers,
because obviously some guys aren't going to play a whole
lot in the preseason games. When they get to those
things that they should have a decision made sometime after that.
The plate for CJ. Stroud is what really changes. That's

(01:35:32):
what they've talked about since the offseason. He's got much
more in control of the offense. He's allowed to be
much more in control of the offense, making calls at
the line, making changes at the line, you know, calling
more things out himself. That's probably what we'll see is
the biggest difference between what he did for two years
under slowk and now in year one with Nick Kayley.

Speaker 1 (01:35:52):
All Right, Jalen Petrie back out today. That was a
lot of uh hudbleb a little about that. What was
he ailing and how did he look if you had
his to look at him and all today?

Speaker 9 (01:36:02):
Uncertain, but I do believe it was something very minor
with his foot and obviously, and that he only missed
two practice days only one of which was in pads.
It's clearly nothing of great significance. Darryl Taylor also had
missed part of yesterday's practice, leaving a little early, but
he was out there in full today. You know, Petrie's
part of the best secondary in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (01:36:20):
In my opinion, C.

Speaker 9 (01:36:21):
Day Gardner, Johnson, Jalen Petrie, Kayln Bullock could be the
best safety trio. And I do think there's a chance
that you've got Lassiter in Stingley is the best cornerback
duo in the league, so they're going to be in
position to make plays. One of the plays of the
day was delivered by Petrie. Really nice throat from Stroud
to Higgins who the ball was just over the fingertips
of Derek Stingley Junior, hit Higgins in the hands and

(01:36:42):
Petrie was there to knock it free and ball lands
on the turf. He is healthy again and a big
part of this defense.

Speaker 1 (01:36:49):
Adam Wexler with us here on a Sports Talk seven
ninety the fantasy community getting hold of some comments from
Dimico Ryans yesterday about Nick Chubb talking about how he
doesn't move like he used to and stuff like that.
What have you been your observations of a Nick Chubb
and how he's moving around?

Speaker 9 (01:37:07):
I think after covering the Texans now twenty four camps,
I don't believe in what did I see from this
running back in camp? It just doesn't really ever play out.
I'm basing Nick Chubb on He's two years removed from
the major injury, he's less than a year removed from
the injury that ended his season a year ago, and
he's going to be thirty by the end of the season.

Speaker 2 (01:37:29):
That's going to take its toll.

Speaker 9 (01:37:31):
He had a three hundred plus touch season the year
before he got hurt, and he hadn't touched the ball
a whole lot the last two years. But if you recall,
he's not mister explosive to begin with. He turns out yards,
he's difficult to tackle, he's a physical downhill runner, and
he will get yards even when they're he's not blasting
through a hole. I wouldn't say he's looked great. I

(01:37:51):
wouldn't say he's looked bad. There maybe twenty touches total
in eleven on eleven work over the six days of practice,
so I'm probably not going to base a hole on that.

Speaker 2 (01:38:00):
But if you want me to tell.

Speaker 9 (01:38:01):
You that Juar Jordan looks more explosive because he's way
smaller and that's the type of back he is, I'll
tell you that he looks more explosive.

Speaker 1 (01:38:08):
I just need you to tell me who Juir Jordan is.
That was the first thought I had. I mean, these
people who.

Speaker 9 (01:38:16):
Are okay, Jerry, You've got Chubb is one, Daria Goombalwally
is two. Jordan usually gets the carries behind that what
he marks Now that JJ Taylor is back and British Brooks,
and if I ran through a list of I can't
believe these guys could be carrying the ball for the Texans.

Speaker 2 (01:38:34):
Yeah, that's what it sounds like.

Speaker 9 (01:38:35):
What he marks is the rookie that will probably play
a ton in the preseason, and Jordan was the rookie
last year essentially didn't see the field, spent much of
the year on the practice squad, but a smaller quicker
potentially you know, a return man type of you know
back that they just don't have. So his opportunities go
up dramatically when two of the presumed four running backs

(01:38:56):
ahead of him, Pierce and Mixing, are like, well, obviously
is not likely to be here at all before the
season starts, and you know we're running of no offseason
work on the field for Pierce and we're a week
into a training company.

Speaker 1 (01:39:07):
Obviously has not come off the fuck list. Last question,
there are John Metchi fans out there, because John has
overcome a lot of things medically that nothing to do
with football. But needless to say, his career as a
Texan has been unwhelming in part because of that. I
know he was catching some punts a few days ago.
He seems like he needs to have an amazing camp

(01:39:29):
in preseason to keep a spot on this squad.

Speaker 2 (01:39:31):
Agree or disagree. I agree.

Speaker 9 (01:39:33):
I think every wide receiver that was brought in beyond
the rookies because the rookies are making the team. Jalen
Knowl and Jaden Higans are probably your third and fourth
wide receivers behind Kirk and Collins. And I do think
Xavier Hutchinson is your number five, but Justin Watson and
Braxton Barrios, especially if they want him as the return man,
these are guys that could easily push you on Thattchie

(01:39:54):
off the roster. I think Betchy actually does have some
special teams value both in return game down the chart,
and I do think if he's active any given week,
he would be a part of your coverage teams. It's
difficult to trust his hands, and for a wide receiver,
that's about the worst thing you can say, and I
just haven't seen much difference in that here in camp.
Sometimes he'll hang on to a catch but it's bobbled.

(01:40:16):
Sometimes he makes a great play and had two or
three really nice catches today. It's just how do you
balance out are three or four really good plays okay
if one or two of them aren't, and on a
game day, that's the difference between extending and drive and
punting the football oftentimes. So I do think he's no
better than sixth on a depth chart that may have
only five or six wide receivers when they get to
the season.

Speaker 2 (01:40:36):
All right, Tom going a better mood? Was he grouchy today?
Or is he okay?

Speaker 9 (01:40:41):
As I've said on my show at nauseum grouchy?

Speaker 2 (01:40:44):
Dimiko?

Speaker 9 (01:40:44):
Honestly, I don't even know if I've ever seen it,
and I certainly didn't see it yesterday was asked a
question about something that in his mind. I don't think
the injury situation with Joe Mixon dramatically changed over the
weekend just because I.

Speaker 1 (01:40:55):
And Rappaport reported about it.

Speaker 4 (01:40:56):
I think the.

Speaker 9 (01:40:57):
Texans where you know, he even said that he goes
nothing changed with Joe. But injury questions are his his kryptonite,
his achilles heel. He hates them, and usually you get
responses that you don't like when you ask them.

Speaker 1 (01:41:11):
Awesome, thank you very much for you got Joe Spotta.
You are the appetizer to the Astros manager. Thank you
very much, My friend can't wait to hear it.

Speaker 2 (01:41:18):
All right, that's up next, Joe spotted here on Sevnati.

Speaker 1 (01:41:24):
All right, so our manager of the Astros, Joe Spotta,
has out of his meetings, was able to gradually join
us at his regular scheduled time, and Joe's with us
here on sports talks at I skip uh. I want
you taking deep breaths too, because look, this is a
marathon run you're going through here. This is obviously difficult time.

(01:41:44):
These are the lot of the guys you're not using.
But frustration is starting to kick in your picture you
Last night Farmer was fantastic, twelve strikeouts with six innings
lost for the first time in a starting a long
period of time. Obviously, he was very disappointed in the
out field strategy in the contest. Is that something that
has been addressed with you? Do you plan on talking

(01:42:05):
to him about it? Do you say, hey, we had
the optics on Nathaniel Lowe being an opposite guy and oh,
by the way, you know it was part of his
frustration he didn't get to strike three call that would
never allowed load to get that hit to begin with.

Speaker 6 (01:42:20):
Listen, So you know, for me, I like to make
it clear that. You know, teams go through stretches like
this in a one sixty two seasons. You know there's
going to be ten twelve twelve days where you're having
a tough time to score runs, or you're having a
tough time to getting you know, quality starts, or you're
having a tough time make you know, you make defensive mistakes.

Speaker 1 (01:42:42):
Happens, this is this.

Speaker 6 (01:42:43):
Is baseball, and as a club, you have to know
how to navigate those moments, right. You have to find
ways to you know, press the reset button. Tomorrow's a
new day. Let's try to find a way to win today.
And we're going through that stretch right. When it comes
to Framber, Framber, it is a competitor. He's passionate, he
wants to win. He's a winner. You know, there was

(01:43:04):
some frustration. He threw the ball extremely well, and there
was that one particular play that I will sit down
with him and I'll address that. I do like when
people show passion and they care about every single detail
about our preparation, because that's what we do. We are
really really good defensive team, and we take pride on

(01:43:27):
our defense and our strategy behind our defense. Now, I
wish he would have come to me first, but he's
that's his emotion, and I don't That's what makes Ramberg
the person that I care for and I love. He's
passionate and I will have that conversation with him today.
But again, that happened yesterday. Today we have a Today's

(01:43:49):
a new day, and we got to find a way
to win today.

Speaker 1 (01:43:51):
Yeah, last question about that, because I honestly think Joe, look,
every company, whether it's the Houston Astros, this radio station,
or the restaurant.

Speaker 2 (01:43:59):
That you'd like to go to. Some days, not everybody's
on the same page.

Speaker 1 (01:44:03):
Some days, guys have got to be frustrated, but you have.
I mean, my guess is Joe and your time as
a manager and as a bench coach and being in
a clubhouse that times the door gets shut and things
are said, and I guess the only question would be
is would it have been better if he would have
just told you, hey, I got a problem with this.
It's compared to kind of just on his own saying
what he said to the reporters that were in front

(01:44:24):
of his locker last night.

Speaker 6 (01:44:26):
You know what, I'm going to have a conversation with
Fromberg today. You know it's his emotional moment for him,
and I'll address that today with him. We'll have a
conversation and we'll put.

Speaker 1 (01:44:39):
This behind us.

Speaker 6 (01:44:41):
It is not you know, it's not a it's not
a big deal doing doing time of competition and when
you're trying to accomplish what we're trying to accomplish and
motion stakes over and you know, we all will address
that today.

Speaker 1 (01:44:55):
Is there any part of you that wants to sneak
a little shuttle over the sugarland to see how your
shortstops doing tonight.

Speaker 6 (01:45:02):
No, he's going He's going to be just fine. He's
going to go there today. He's going to dh try
to get you know, as many as the bats as possible.
But he was here yesterday. He looked good. You know,
we are really happy with where he's at right now
physically and mentally. We can't wait to have him back.

Speaker 1 (01:45:21):
Do you feel like you should get a medical degree?
With all the injuries you've had to deal with this year?
I mean, how many different muscles and wrists and elbows?
What have you learned about? Have you learned everything about
the human body this year?

Speaker 6 (01:45:34):
You know, I've I've learned a lot of terminology, and
I did not know there was ligaments in certain places,
you know, bones in certain areas. You know, it's been
it's been a crazy experience. But you know what, what
I'm looking at the fact that these guys are coming back.

(01:45:55):
They're really closer to having our full squat back, and
we're going to continue to grind to we'll get uh,
we get everyone on the fields.

Speaker 1 (01:46:02):
Manager Joe spottleos here on Sports Talk seven ninety and
with that, weighing getting guys back and where they are
and projecting they are both on the pitching and position
player sides. What if conversations with Dana been about is
it has it been more difficult this year as far
as it's not as necessarily as cut and dry about
team needs.

Speaker 6 (01:46:20):
No, you know what, we we take it in consideration
that we have some guys coming back, right, so we
trying to you know, strategize around that, trying to improve
our roster, taking again consideration of the guys that we
have him back and how close they are getting back.
So we are just exploring different areas and you know,

(01:46:41):
hopefully we we can, you know, if there's something that
fits our club, and uh, it makes sense, I'm sure
Dana and his staff and we'll talk about it and
we and we'll we'll address that and make our club better.

Speaker 1 (01:46:54):
The yearly question, I ask a manager, whether it's you
or anybody else that preceded you, how much without naming names,
do run to the guys on the active roster, come
to your room, shut the door and say, hey, skip,
my agent's hearing this. I'm hearing this on social media.
Do what do I make of it? And what do
you say to them?

Speaker 5 (01:47:11):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (01:47:12):
You know what they it's hard not it's hard to
avoid not avoid the you know, the rumors. And there's
always guys who have questions and I I have an
open door policy and those guys come in and you know,
they understand the business side of things. I haven't had
that many conversations with with our guys in the last
couple of years, but if I sense there is something

(01:47:33):
going on, they have a questions, I like just to
put them on the side, on the outfield grass or
in the clubhouse, in the kitchen, and we will talk.
I want to make sure that they all were on
the same page that we all are. This is a
family and I want them to there's any concerns let's
talk about things. But you know, but but they but
it happens, and it's hard for and it's hard not
to have this conversation when they you know, with social

(01:47:56):
media and there's so much information out there in today's game.

Speaker 1 (01:47:59):
All right, So it sounds like the clubhouse is really
jammed right now. That's a good sign. You're seeing some
people back balance. And I'll use Jacob Mountain for example.
Jacob wants to play, Jacob's been out for a while.
Jacob doesn't like to be hurt. He knows his team
is looking for healthy bodies. Did you have to have that?

(01:48:20):
Are you one hundred percent ready to go locked and loaded,
pain free, or do are you sometimes afraid? Not necessarily
with Jacob, but with just some players in general. Hey,
I gotta do whatever I can. My squad's disappointing on
a tough stretch. I'll get out there even if not
nine hundred percent.

Speaker 6 (01:48:36):
No, you know what, No, we're not going to do that.
We're not going to put our players in a position.
This is their career. I'm very mindful of that. You know,
I play baseball. I understand this is their livelihood to
have families, to have kids, We're not going to ask
the player who is not ready to go and put
their career in jeopardy if we could wait another.

Speaker 1 (01:48:55):
Three or four days.

Speaker 6 (01:48:56):
It's very important, you know that we make sure that
we take care of our players. If they're not one
hundred percent, they're not going to be able to perform
out their capability. So we we make sure that those
guys are in a good spot before we bring him
back and be able to perform.

Speaker 1 (01:49:14):
Scape your needed. Thank you for the time, good luck
to night against the Nationals. All right, man, thank you,
you got it. That's Joe spotted with us here on
Sports Talk seven to eighty question asked and answered, appreciates
the emotion. He's gonna have a little chit chat with
the frommer and say, hey, come talk to me about
what we would expect. Yeah, and you know what, winning
will cure all these little issues.

Speaker 2 (01:49:36):
Absolutely kept our phone lines twelve forty four.

Speaker 1 (01:49:44):
Deep press. It's all right, I'm sending an air check.
That is stressing back here.

Speaker 2 (01:49:50):
I know in poor you.

Speaker 1 (01:49:51):
I feel bad for we all Jonathan's fault. We really
love having fine for you go. We love having people
his on, We love having all right, all right, it's okay,
it's okay, all right.

Speaker 2 (01:50:05):
Let me tell you about Shelle Oppoly. I saw a
Blummer yesterday at the ball yard. It is funny.

Speaker 12 (01:50:11):
Do you hear.

Speaker 1 (01:50:11):
I don't know if you heard a. J. Presinski was
on with the Sean and Dan this morning. Good conversation.
It's funny. AJ is a really good analyst. He's the
number two analysts on Fox behind John Smoltz. Still universally
hated by most people in baseball, just because he was
just safe, say a dirty player, right said things universally

(01:50:32):
hated AJ Persinski is he Yeah, I know a lot
of people hate him. I guy, and I was in
Minneapolis working for three years and he was with the
White Sox. He got a boot every time. Just deep
seated hatred for guys. But I think he's great. On
the air, and he was talking about Blum excuse me,
and uh saying that, uh, you know he was. They

(01:50:53):
had a twenty year White Sox reunion if not too
long ago for him, you know, two thousand and five,
and what happened then I forgot, But all Blum one
talk about the astros of AJ is like, dude, we're
here to White Sox. Did stop put you up. It's
funny because AJ does the games for the Braves too,
so everybody's moving on in television. But yeah, we're gonna
see a J in the playoffs. Ross he's gonna call

(01:51:16):
the playoff series. Are we Yes? We are. I'm just
asking how you feeling about putt your name out of
the division. Races are already dead. It's done. It's scared,
and I'm still not. I mean, I'm a little petro five,
but I can really scared. Thanks going to AJ for
joining AJ for Joe. Joe spoted for joining us about
a minute ago. Look not easy, uh, I thought, frankly,

(01:51:39):
And let's let's peel the curtain back a little bit here.
You know, you can hear a tenor in someone's voice
if they're like, all right, do I have to answer this,
I'll get it out of the way, or can I
be up front about it and get it out and
knock it out? And we asked two questions about it.
There were two fair questions, and he answered them really good.
It's gonna have a conversation with Fromber. But the number

(01:52:00):
one sentiment I got out of it from him, and
this is maybe I think you agree with me on
this is that you know what this kind of comes
to the territory with fromber and I think he's I
don't again, I think the door shut.

Speaker 13 (01:52:10):
Huh.

Speaker 1 (01:52:11):
You can m if anybody you want to, because that
happens all the time. We just matter of fact, mf
some people around here last segment. But you put that
out there for public consumption, and so I think you
probably thought, hey, I understand it, just come talk to
me first, because if you are that open door guy,
and I don't think Joe's not an open door guy,
I know It's got to work both ways. But this is,
this is these are the moments why Joe, This is

(01:52:35):
why he builds these relationships with these players. These conversations
are easy to have when you keep the lines of
communication open and you talk to the players and you
build these relationships, then the highs are good and then
the lows like this are easier to handle as well.
And that's why I think he's going to do a
good job. And I think he is a good good
manager for the Astros. Yeah, because if you only are

(01:52:56):
there when times are good, if we're only there to
chew people out, if you're only yelling at him every
single That's why I think, you know, there are coaches
in sports, like for instance, I heard very little bit
of Bobby Nine ever being a man that just was
was team me, our team, you know, team us. It
was I'm going to tell you, it's my way of

(01:53:18):
the highway, and if you did something wrong, you're gonna
hear about it.

Speaker 2 (01:53:21):
There's no flexibility.

Speaker 1 (01:53:22):
Look, Calvin Samson is probably the toughest coach in his
town in terms of what he wants. But there must
be a level of love and admiration that goes in
a direction that we don't see it because those players,
the ex the alums that come back love on him
like nobody's business. Yeah, I think there is. I think
he's talked about that about loving his players, but he's

(01:53:44):
very hard on that. Yes he can, and you don't know,
you don't see the real.

Speaker 2 (01:53:48):
Soft side of it.

Speaker 1 (01:53:49):
But I can tell you when they are celebrating and
popping shit and pop popping cokes, kool Aids, kool Aids, whatever,
Capri sons, that there is a side that we don't
see of Kelvin that those players see.

Speaker 2 (01:54:01):
I think absolutely, And I think that's.

Speaker 1 (01:54:03):
The key of being a really hard coach, but being
affable enough to be not so rigid. And I think
that I respect guys like that. I think Joe is
probably a softer side of Calvin.

Speaker 13 (01:54:14):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (01:54:14):
I'm thinking he's a cast master like he is.

Speaker 1 (01:54:16):
Well. Also, Kelvin couldn't do that in the NBA. No,
he couldn't. And I think Kelvin will be the first
one to tell you that. I think a lot of
college coach would be the first one. Nick Saban, I
think in the NFL got a root awakening that is
kind of strict mentality doesn't work with guys that are
making more money than he is. Yeah, and Joe had
to adapt. But Joe also watched really good managers, watched

(01:54:39):
a J. Hinch was was a eyewitness to the way
that Dusty Baker ran things. He probably took some things
from both of those guys, plus his own style. So
to me Fromber was a upset, no question about that,
But it was also probably pissed at everything that was happening.

(01:54:59):
No run support, frustration, not getting the strike three call
on low that would have ended the inning, major frustration. Yes,
umpires literally put runs on the board and we just
let this go by.

Speaker 2 (01:55:13):
Yeah, ninety one percent accuracy yesterday.

Speaker 1 (01:55:16):
Not good enough. I wonder what Major League Baseball thinks
is good enough, because nobody's perfect in life. One hundred
percent would be good enough. They have the technologies to
do it.

Speaker 6 (01:55:26):
Just do it.

Speaker 1 (01:55:28):
Challengesm would have been good. What if you from were
probably would have been out of challenges by then.

Speaker 2 (01:55:33):
I'm telling you Ross, if I'm.

Speaker 1 (01:55:34):
A manager of Major League Baseball, I ain't touching the
damn challenge system to the sixth inning of a game.
And think about this. At least in baseball you get
two shots at it. Yeah a year, Sure, then you
do it, but you have to be one hundred percent.
There was a strike mischief in the middle, like a
the Orioles game, Orioles Blue Jays game. Go look on
social media from you look at sports RV I put

(01:55:57):
I think I retweeted. Now did the framing of the
of the met hurt? Obviously it did, but it was
still a strike.

Speaker 2 (01:56:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:56:03):
They were set up outside and then it was middle middle.
It was right over the quote unquote heart of the plate.
So insanely horrible, all right, it was I would have
to say the worst call of the year probably. I mean,
imagine somebody's Now, let me.

Speaker 2 (01:56:20):
Ask you this.

Speaker 1 (01:56:20):
If the umpire looks and says, oh, I'm sorry, I
got mixed up, that that's possible. You did get mixed up.
That's a strike. M hmm. But if if an umpire
gets mixed up, you should have an opportunity to get
it corrected. And that would have been as easy of
a correction as possible. This crazy strike. It it was
not like almost a strike. It wasn't an an Yeah, exactly.

(01:56:44):
It was on the corner. You know what it happens. Yeah,
I mean the Frommer miss call was bad, but it
wasn't as many of them were the five worst of
the year. All right, let's get the final hour and
James wants to get in on some astrosk conversation. We
will visit with Jacob Meltain coming up and a half an
hour from now, and believe it or not, Oh, we
get the NFL re want in twenty minutes, what's going

(01:57:04):
wrong in the NFL these days? ROSSI, you're gonna find out.

Speaker 6 (01:57:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:57:07):
I think you're gonna find it right now in the
next two minutes.

Speaker 1 (01:57:10):
Uh. And then we've got believe it or not today
all things Ryan Samberg may he rests in peace, Rossie.
Ryan Samberg was a part of my childhood. And now
he's dead.

Speaker 2 (01:57:21):
Dang Ross, that's gonna say, damn it. When you went
dark quick fast?

Speaker 1 (01:57:27):
What what did I do? He died? You could have
said you had tough loss for baseball, and you said,
and now he's dead. As a child, I'm feeling for you, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:57:38):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (01:57:39):
I threw up the soft landing spot and he crashed it.
All I said was it. Now he's dead. He is
my in line. Did I say something incorrect? This is
not factual because it passed away. At least he's dead
and we're gonna You could have said, and we're now
we're gonna miss him a true Chicago Cup.

Speaker 2 (01:57:57):
Great. Oh no, he went sleepy Pie.

Speaker 1 (01:57:59):
I'm sorry I didn't sleepy pie.

Speaker 5 (01:58:04):
Now.

Speaker 1 (01:58:04):
Yeah, yeah, that's you are almost I call you, mister conn.
Yeah he went to he went to the great baseball
Diamond in the sky. I'm sorry. You could have said,
now he and Harry care. It's not like having a
Budweiser tut. It's not like I said, he croaked and
now he's dead. Ross Villary, I was a great partner
from Matt Thomas back in the day, and now he's dead. Yeah,

(01:58:25):
I'll be dead twelve fifty eight of Sports Talk seventy.
Mister softy, it is so one two on Sports Talk seven.
A lot of meetings going on over in Astro Bilt.
Did no surprise. We were to sneak Joe in between
one and was called to one.

Speaker 2 (01:58:41):
We were just about wrapping up.

Speaker 1 (01:58:46):
Busy times. So let's put in perspective here what the
Astros need? Okay, third base? Yeah, starting pitching, Nope, wouldn't hurt. Now,
I've always been team starting pitching, and I would never
go against that. It wouldn't hurt. And also, you have
a general manager who's said you can never have too
much pitching. He's been right. If you have eight on

(01:59:06):
the eight starting pitchers on the il right now. Yeah, okay,
so let's go third base. Yeah, let's go right hand
or reliever.

Speaker 3 (01:59:17):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 1 (01:59:17):
Let's go second base, second in second basis and Bryce
down say we'll try this again in twenty six. Short
term higher utility infielder kind of thing, second base slash utility.
Remember that goofy asked tweet we got about Carlos Korea
last hour. Uh huh No, he didn't get it, but
somebody sent it to us. That's true. Well it was

(01:59:40):
Korea and Castro for like, yeah yeah, blue Ball, Yeah
yeah yeah. Correa would be a rental because he has
He's got one of those option your deals every year, right,
doesn't he not?

Speaker 2 (01:59:53):
Just like Bregman has.

Speaker 1 (01:59:54):
Uh looks like he No, he does have a long
term deal. He's making the thirty two. This is according
to Baseball Reference. He has a team option not until
twenty twenty nine, so he would be under contract for
this year and three more.

Speaker 2 (02:00:08):
He's not that big of a deal with Minnesota. Really,
I was totally unaware of that.

Speaker 1 (02:00:16):
His option does guarantee with top five and MVP voting.

Speaker 2 (02:00:25):
World Series.

Speaker 1 (02:00:26):
This is why, this is why create doesn't make any
sense to me, because if you were to go get Korea,
painish your shortstop, Paretti's would be your third baseman unless
you moved Parrettis in the offseason. But I don't know
how somebody with an injury as severe is what we

(02:00:47):
believed Jimmy Eastsich Predi's injury would be. Can you play
Krey at second?

Speaker 7 (02:00:53):
No?

Speaker 2 (02:00:53):
I would think you mean like for next year?

Speaker 1 (02:00:56):
Yeah? Why not? He's thirty one. I'm sorry, he's thirty
now thirty?

Speaker 2 (02:01:00):
You want that that? I can't answer.

Speaker 1 (02:01:03):
Most shortstops when they make the transition go to third base,
I would agree, Yeah, I don't. He'd be a better
you know what, he'd be a better third baseman than Paradis.
I think you can move Paraitis a second, could you not?
I think Cray has got a bigger arm in more range. Yeah,
but the but Paridis has really been the problem is

(02:01:25):
what is Paridi is going to be and how long
is this going to be? Paradis is good when it's
hit right to him for the most part. Yeah, range
is an issue, So that would you'd also be losing
you would do that would be also a big prominent
second base as well. He had good hands at Why
Why would you hold Bryce Matthews back for twenty six
if you're gonna let Parides stand in the way of

(02:01:46):
Bryce Matthew's getting a chance for Parade doesn't make a
whole lot of sense. It just doesn't. I would be surprised, Oh,
I would be more than surprise. Would theory is that
is that the the twins are trying to unload salary. Well,
you know why because Aire five out of the Waid
card B. They're trying to be sold there for Celia. Yeah,

(02:02:07):
isn't that crazy? You want to sell your team, So
what you do is you sell a team by stripping
it down so you have a lower margin. So when
you get when you buy the team, you're not giving
this new ownership group a lot of high contracts, which
then means you, as a new owner, are inheriting this

(02:02:29):
baseball team and you're starting from scratch. Ie A Jim
Crane did I mean when when when Drake mcclained, He
told h the general manager at the time, Ed Wade,
just get rid of everybody. Get rid of Hunter Pence,
get rid of Wandi Roriguez, get rid of Lance Berkman,
get rid of there was something other people know. I

(02:02:49):
mean everybody their mother was rid of. Just strip it down.

Speaker 2 (02:02:52):
That's tough.

Speaker 1 (02:02:54):
Imagine being this new owner. Hey, I can't wait to
be the new owner of the Minnesota Twins. And we've
got to pay of eighty one million dollars and we're
gonna finish sixteen one oh two.

Speaker 2 (02:03:03):
Come check us out.

Speaker 1 (02:03:04):
Well, you know you want them to move out the furniture.
When you buy a new house, Matt, build it up
your own way. But don't you let me ask you this.
If I was to sell my house tomorrow, I would
spend money to improve on it, not make it worse.
You got to make it attractive. I mean, I gotta
get new carpets because the dogs have done. God knows
what I'm gonna do, A new paint, maybe put a

(02:03:25):
new roof on it.

Speaker 2 (02:03:26):
I gotta make the look good. Okay, you're not.

Speaker 1 (02:03:29):
Making the Twins look good. If you move Carlo's Korea. Well,
you're winning twice. You're spending less on payroll. You don't care.
If you're winning, I'm probably on your way out. You're
trying to sell the team. You're spending less on payroll,
and it makes it easier to sell. Well, if there's
no doubt in my mind, it makes easier to sell
because we see this all the time when teams sell,
typically they like to shave Payroll'm funny though, Minnesota Twins,

(02:03:51):
I mean Minnesota Wolves were sold and Anthony Edwards big
contract or do you go bear big contract? Julius Randall,
big contract? You do that, you can do it that half,
you can build it your own way. Yeah, and then
again NBA construction is a lot different than the best
baseball and generally teams that are about to be sold
are not World Series contenders. No, Wolves is gonna be
good this year. Man, I cannot wait for the NBA.

(02:04:14):
You're gonna have to I'm gonna Unfortunately I can't get
the schedule yet. Yeah, what's going with that?

Speaker 2 (02:04:19):
It gets always mid August.

Speaker 1 (02:04:21):
We will get next year's astro schedule before we get
this year's NBA schedule. It's whack, but that's how it works. Sorry, Matt,
You're not sorry. I'm really not.

Speaker 2 (02:04:35):
No.

Speaker 1 (02:04:36):
See, the next time, you know what you are You're
the boy that cried wolf me. Yeah, what wolf of
my crying? You're wolfing?

Speaker 2 (02:04:42):
You're sorry?

Speaker 1 (02:04:42):
Like, next time, you're gonna tell me how sorry you
are about something, and I'm gonna know are you really
meaning it or you probably not?

Speaker 2 (02:04:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:04:48):
Ryan Samberg one of the greatest all time astro or
chyro Cubs kid of my childhood, and now he's dead.
I'm sorry for stating. In fact, man, mister Warmth over there,
James is with us at one ho nine on seven
on eight. James, what do you have?

Speaker 14 (02:05:02):
Yeah, this is more of a gut feeling. But I
think the AS is gonna make a scenery change kind
of trade. The guy would be better if he's over here.
And I think they're gonna make that trade with Detroit
and get Mallory at third base, and they're gonna give
up wickhamb is what I think the trade's gonna be.
Or they're gonna trade to Baltimore and get a ruiz

(02:05:23):
for Witcomb. But I think Wis Whitcomb's gone and we're
gonna get one of those third base That's just my
good feeling.

Speaker 1 (02:05:29):
Yeah, I I don't know what kind of what kind
of I mean? Wickham's twenty six years old. Who are
you trying to get from? He's just making Detroit he
hung up ye Lowry, Jed Lowry. No, not Jed Lowry.
He's already been here nine times. Can't come make your tenth?

Speaker 12 (02:05:48):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (02:05:48):
Chay's twenty eight, No excuse me, twenty six. Career batting
average in the big leagues is one seventy four. Is
that good?

Speaker 2 (02:05:58):
Betting one oh seven this year with a Who tell me?

Speaker 1 (02:06:00):
Where am I seeing the value on the other side
of this?

Speaker 2 (02:06:03):
Again?

Speaker 1 (02:06:04):
Remember something that I've said this a million times to
talk about this in the Kevin Durant trade.

Speaker 2 (02:06:08):
When you trade something to someone else, it has to hurt.

Speaker 1 (02:06:14):
If the astroist say goodbye to Shaye Witcomb any unless
it was a part of a package, ain't don't hurt anybody. Yeah,
and Shade defensively is just not very good right now,
say Wickham. Remember everybody's all upset and on everybody. A
lot of people on astros Twitter upset that he wasn't
getting abs. Was anybody getting mad that says ourselves are

(02:06:36):
wasn't getting any abs? There were people. Actually, I'm still
trying to figure out who the heck he was talking about.
I think he's just I think he's making somebody up. Okay,
maybe you can call back and tell us, but it's
not on there that we can move on. Great stuff there,
No the kid from the Twins, the utility player makes
a little bit of sense. Multi position player, probably a

(02:06:59):
little bit of a better bat than dubomb A. Man,
you know, there's a lot of better bat than But
I'm team Dubon. I don't understand. But we also realistic. Yeah,
I know, Uh, you don't Dubon playing six days a
week is a tough watch. It just is it's not ideal,
but I.

Speaker 2 (02:07:16):
Love his versatility. I love that he's he's.

Speaker 1 (02:07:19):
I mean, frankly, last night, well the I mean it
drove the only running the game for the Astros. Well,
you know what, that's okay, six home runs con would
you expect it? He's got a seven hundred ops. That's
actually better. And I thought he's been hugging around like
six hundred most of the year. Doesn't have a lot
of smack. But it's fine. I mean, he wasn't like
five fifty and then he got like three home runs

(02:07:39):
in a week. The most importantly ross he plays. It's
been hurt, that's true. That has value. I mean that,
you know, as a friend, won so many attendants is
part of the grade. Well, he's got good attendance. Not
going to be on the honor roll. No, he's not
going to the honor Society. He's not gonna one of
those strange vests over his chest. When he graduates, we'll
give him a gold sticker. All right, Hey, gang, we

(02:07:59):
got NFL rewind to get to what is happening around
the National Football League beside what's happening in the Texans.
We'll get a little Texans nibblets. If you want plus
big news around the NFL. If there's any Ross, we'll
find it because he does. He is the Ian Rappaport
of Houston Sports. Now, thank you, Matt irritating, Uh, Demico
Ryans whenever he can. And I believe Jacob Mountain's gonna
join us at one thirty and the Orioles dropped a

(02:08:20):
fly ball and right center he's lost in the sun.
Don't show it to fromber in a three four games
messed up?

Speaker 2 (02:08:29):
Seven?

Speaker 6 (02:08:30):
What?

Speaker 9 (02:08:30):
No?

Speaker 1 (02:08:30):
What score? Three to four? Game four to three, four
to three Orioles there he goes that lead whatever? Four
to three?

Speaker 7 (02:08:37):
Whatever?

Speaker 1 (02:08:38):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven nainty. All right,
my favorite time of the week because I get to
sit back and watch the genius it is Ross. You're welcomes.

version sponsored the Sports Harvy. And if we have a
lot of stuff going on in the NFL, but we'll
start with the Houston Texans in the camp today. Demiko

(02:09:44):
O'Ryan's talking about things turning this comment from Jonathan Alexander,
of course covering the Texans for the Chronicle, Tamiko Ryan
saying he's seeing things even out in a practice. The
defense with a strong start in the first few practices,
but today was all about the offense. Jamiko Ryans praising

(02:10:06):
his quarterbacks for making accurate throws and wide receiver receivers
who have made contested catches. Also singled out Jayden Higgins,
who apparently had a pretty good day making some tough
catches for the Houston Texans offense today. Matt, Yeah, I
can't wait to see it when they play Minnesota.

Speaker 2 (02:10:25):
Well, actually, when are we gonna see these players play?

Speaker 1 (02:10:27):
What week one it's gonna be? They gotta be some
joint practices coming up. Don't they have the Chargers or
somebody else and they're going and uh, who's the second one?
I can't remember. It doesn't matter the Niners or no,
I can't remember. It's gotta be NFC because there Adam
Wexler would know. Come up at two o'clock. He'll tell
you all about the joint practices and what's gonna happen.
In every single one first team offensive line combo for
the Texans today, starting from left to right, Cam Robinson, Laken, Tomlinson,

(02:10:52):
Jake Andrews, Titus Howard, arianti Ursery. We got the report
from Adam Wexler earlier in the show. Sounds like tay
Ersery is gonna be the starting right tackle. Of course,
a long way to go right now, who knows what's
gonna happen, but the starting right tackle with maybe future
left tackle written all over him. But again we must

(02:11:14):
caution that it is early for the Houston Texans on
that front. It is funny when I asked wex if
it's a case of ariante Ursery winning job or doing
it because.

Speaker 2 (02:11:25):
The guys in front of him aren't very good.

Speaker 1 (02:11:27):
Wex's thought was, and I trust his eyes that it's
more of ursery getting the spot because there's not a
whole lot of competition in front of him.

Speaker 2 (02:11:37):
So again, if you listen to Wex and.

Speaker 1 (02:11:39):
Look he looks at it, he's not trying to you know,
glad hand handing Cal.

Speaker 2 (02:11:44):
He's out there actually trying to watch the team.

Speaker 1 (02:11:46):
Uh, this offensive line is gonna be a mess this year.
I'm not hearing anything in the in the three or
four reports from him that make me think that all
of a sudden, this is gonna be a this is
gonna be a fluid situation. We're gonna have to find
five hot guys performing at their best at the same time.

Speaker 2 (02:12:04):
To protect the quarterback.

Speaker 1 (02:12:06):
Unfortunate Matt. We also talked about the running back situation, so,
as I mentioned, this was going everywhere in the Fantasy
realm yesterday. Quote from Dimiko Ryan's on Nick Chubb. Guy's age,
He's been through a lot. It's not always gonna be
the same as his early years in the NFL. But
what I hang my hat on with him is that

(02:12:26):
he this guy loves football. He's physical, he plays and
prepares the right way, really sharp guy in the protection scheme. Hey,
how explosive and fast and get strong? Is Nick Chubb
looking like guy's age? He just pushed a sock on
one at a time. He's been through a lot. He

(02:12:48):
knows the playbook. Well yeah, but how's he running? You know,
he prepares the right way. We're gonna love him in
past pro Okay, but how is he running? We call
him turtle Chubb? What does that mean when he gets
out of the pool. No, you know, turtles don't run fast. Oh.
I thought you mean he was going into his shell

(02:13:10):
like he's an introvert. You're talking about his personal life. No,
I'm sure he does quite well on that. All right, man.
Well that's all my notes on the Texans right now. Unfortunately,
we do have to get to the news. We'd mentioned
it earlier, the shooting at the NFL headquarters on Yesterday

(02:13:30):
in New York City six twenty eight nine one one
calls began pouring in from Mintown, Manhattan, the same Highs
Highs that houses the NFL league headquarters and offices for
several other prominent companies. Authorities believe the shooter was focused
on the NFL ween he entered the building and killed
four people. Injured a fifth and then shot and killed himself.

(02:13:54):
A note found in his wallet was critical of the
NFL and mentioned CTE. Of course, the brain disease associated
with concussions and repeated hits to the head. Nothing but
I'm sorry, and that's an awful story. Nothing more we
can really comment on that. Yeah, all right, well we'll
move on from that. A couple of other things going on, Matt.

(02:14:15):
We talked about this. So the last couple of weeks,
as you have said, the Saints are gonna start for Arch,
suck for Arch, parched for Arched, parched for win for Arch,
Banning for Manning, March for Arch. You gotta find some
cliche ter Okay, they're standing for Manning anyways, says there's

(02:14:44):
there there's no bad ideas. In a brainstorm, Matt, she
has them said quote that would be brown its owner.
I bet Arch Manning's days in college two years not
worth discussing.

Speaker 2 (02:14:57):
Oh he's so sly getting people off the ste.

Speaker 1 (02:15:01):
Jimmy Haslam says, I think you know the Manning family.
I would bet, and I don't know Arch at all,
but I would bet he stays two more years in college.
I don't think it's even worth discussing.

Speaker 2 (02:15:12):
Now, let me ask you this.

Speaker 1 (02:15:13):
The timing I'm in he has to decline, well, he
know the draft order by the time he declares one
way or the other. Yeah, because the playoffs will go
into December. That's true. You'll know who the teams of
that don't make the playoffs, So you'll know the draft
order of the top seven or eight teams, provided that

(02:15:33):
he's one of that.

Speaker 2 (02:15:34):
He's considered himself one of those top seven ary, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:15:36):
First week of January, he'll know. You don't have to
declare by then. I don't think I'm saying. I wonder
how the calendar though. Yeah, well, if the Longhorns are
like making those playoff finals, I don't know you and
I don't know Arch. I don't, but I think playing
in New Orleans would intrigue him. I well, we'll see
what happens. I think it would. I think I think

(02:15:57):
it's situation depending as well. We don't even know that
he's gonna be the number one pick, right, we don't
even know that he's gonna have a great season.

Speaker 2 (02:16:04):
Correct.

Speaker 1 (02:16:05):
I will also say, I just continue to believe the
fact that he made a decision. You listening to these
interviews with Cooper and the Manning family and how they
raised him and how they want him to be a
normal kid, and a normal kid who.

Speaker 2 (02:16:19):
Makes more millions dollars a year exactly.

Speaker 1 (02:16:21):
It's gonna be my next that's gonna be my next sentence.
A normal kid who's making eight nine million dollars a
year and doesn't have to go into the NFL to
be the number one overall pick, and would like to
enjoy college life, especially at a wonderful campus like UT
and be a little bit different. It would make sense

(02:16:42):
for him to stay. And the last name that I
can remember that we did this would be Andrew Luck.
But I'm going to give you this. I want you
to put this in the back of your mind. Okay,
if he is considered top three quarterback, he's leaving because
if he was to break his leg in his senior
year or get some sort of probably still be top three.
I mean, there's these days, these days, unless he's gonna

(02:17:03):
rip an achilles or both of them or something. All Right,
how about this for a little late gut feeling. Okay,
if pay if well, I'll get one.

Speaker 2 (02:17:13):
Manning right here.

Speaker 1 (02:17:14):
If Arch Manning finishes el no Arch if Arch finishes
top three in the Heisman, he's going to the NFL
Okay for next year. That's just that's just a gut
gut filing on my part. Just like you said he
was going to transfer, Well he would have Quenn you were,
I mean, Quinn saved him from a transfer.

Speaker 2 (02:17:34):
Houston.

Speaker 1 (02:17:34):
No, I mean you are so delusional.

Speaker 2 (02:17:40):
What is closer in New Orleans?

Speaker 1 (02:17:44):
So it was too late.

Speaker 2 (02:17:45):
Yeah, he want there somewhere.

Speaker 1 (02:17:47):
He's not going to go to the sixty eighth ranked
out of sixty eight Power for school.

Speaker 2 (02:17:51):
You see how we're doing recruiting wise, we're top forty
recruiting national.

Speaker 1 (02:17:54):
Top forty. Okay, let me tell you your Casey casing
me yet. Yeah, we're proud of you. You're Casey. I
had this great school named the University of Houston that
deserves five star athletes because it's a great campus, beautiful people,
good food, good atmosphere, loud, boisterous crowds, and excellent academics
and is the sixty eighth most valuable program out of

(02:18:14):
sixty eight in Power for Football. Case He says, now
you're part of the weekly top forty twenty five thousand
game last year and then not holding back with the
Fritz Will Fritz kicking ass, taking names, great job, writing checks.

Speaker 2 (02:18:31):
Fall comes down?

Speaker 1 (02:18:32):
All right, Matte, Uh, you know I'm gonna skip this.
Justin field story in the My League Neighbors seems okay.
He left practice with a shoulder injury with the New
York Giants. Of course, we know he is one of
the best young talents in football, but nothing to worry about.
People were all worried about his shoulder injury. Media reports

(02:18:52):
that he is going to be okay after initial evaluation.
How does this impact your fantasy draft map? Not okay?

Speaker 2 (02:19:03):
Who's first quarterback being taken this year?

Speaker 1 (02:19:07):
Lamar Jacks or Josh Allen Point Jane Daniels. Jane Daniel
will be top three? I think he'd be third. Not bad,
but I mean, is he gonna have the c J.
Stroud effect in his sophomore season? Just throwing it out there,
just saying that I think about I've already already said publicly,
who who my late QB? I'm king on, But I'm
not gonna say it anymore since I've already said in mind,

(02:19:27):
if I get a chance, I'm picking up Joseph Burrow.
That's not late quarterback dud threw for almost five thousand
yards last year, and he's got the best receiving court
of football. Yeah, but he is Matt Thomas's sleeper picky.
You know what I gotta.

Speaker 2 (02:19:41):
I got a sleeper running back for you guys.

Speaker 1 (02:19:43):
But John Robinson any spelling that pronounce it, keep an
eye out for this Atlanta running back that nobody's talking about.
I got one for you to want to stay away from. Okay,
Ashton genty See, you're gonna be so wrong. It's gonna
be so sweet. Jacob Mountain next at seven ninety. There

(02:20:05):
are a handful of players that I have called games for.

Speaker 2 (02:20:11):
That I'm legitimately scared about who they are.

Speaker 1 (02:20:16):
Like, I think there are some players that would, if
not for basketball, would create would be criminals.

Speaker 2 (02:20:23):
And this is coming to pass on one of them.

Speaker 1 (02:20:28):
Uh, Marcus Morris of the Morris Twins. I believe Markith
is a teddy bear. Don't hold me to thank you, track,
but I think Marcus is a dangerous human being that
would like to crush your neck. I throw you against
the wall to hear your bones break. Now, He's the
one the Rockets drafted ahead of, Yeah, ahead of Kawhi,

(02:20:49):
Leonard correct Marcus Morris allegedly stole more than two hundred
and fifty thousand dollars from a Las Vegas casino or
set of casinos. What how. According according to court documents obtained,

(02:21:10):
the NBA player allegedly got one hundred and fifteen thousand
dollars from the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino via bad
checks in May of twenty twenty four. He never paid
them back when the checks bounced, officials said. A month later,
he performed a similar scam at the Win Las Vegas
Hotel and Casino, netting one hundred and fifty fifty thousand

(02:21:33):
dollars through checks he knew he wouldn't cash. Look at
his mugshot? Does that man want to kill you? Why
is he leaning backwards? Well, some people star in the
sky anyway, I don't why for their photos? Okay, No,
I don't think he looks like he wants to murder me.
He just looks like he's getting arrested. I don't know.

(02:21:54):
And I watched him on ESPN and he esked would
hire him for a while. He scared me. Okay, Matt,
you scare me sometimes.

Speaker 2 (02:22:01):
Why? I don't know I'm harmless.

Speaker 1 (02:22:03):
Clearly, go look at his mug shot and pretty so
I haven't attacked you by now, it ain't happening. You
deserved it. I'm gonna throw wing sauce on you in
my eyes. Yeah, I'm gonna throw some Cajun seasoning at you. Okay. No,
it's it's National Wing Day and Big City Wings brought

(02:22:23):
us wings. Good lord, I'm very distracted. Now, this is
not good. I told him to the break, but no,
that's okay. We want the food. Now are you talking about?
Don't tell them what you do, that's not your job.
Tells them to bring the wings in? Have you not
matt eat on air constantly? It's not true. I mean
I will now, but I won't do it, you know,
until the break. Okay, we're supposed to have Jacob Meltain here.

(02:22:44):
So what's going on?

Speaker 2 (02:22:45):
Because here's the bit?

Speaker 1 (02:22:46):
What is the bit? The bit is this is for
Marcus Morris. We're looking for Marcus Morris. Jacob mount comes on.
You eat during Jacob Meltain, and then I eat during
Believe it or not? Have you read the questions today?
I have to write believe it or not? Okay, I'm
way behind on that you know what, I'm supposed to
do that while you interview Jacob Melton.

Speaker 2 (02:23:06):
I know, so I'll leave you alone.

Speaker 1 (02:23:08):
Let me just read his Wikipedia page. Hell out Jacob
Meltain or Marcus Morris, Ryan Sandberg.

Speaker 2 (02:23:14):
All right, and he's dead.

Speaker 1 (02:23:16):
Oh, Matt, so insensitive of you, it was. Why would
you make mistakes examples from you? Gosh, unbelievable. Say you're wrong?
Ross to say I'm wrong about what I said. He
was dead, he died. I didn't kill him. Why are
you looking at me? Charlie Morton giving the oriole six
strong innings. By the way, speaking of it dead, No,

(02:23:37):
he's very much alive. He's forty one years old, making
good money. That's true. He's doing fine, all right, Jacob Warri,
Because I mean, the scent of big City wings is
in here and I'd rather eat it's honestly. Yeah, this
is not good. Seventy five wings, by the way, ten
dollar buckets, National Wing Day. Okay, by the way, Clainton
and Wexler can't have any of this. Oh, they're gonna

(02:23:57):
crush it.

Speaker 2 (02:23:57):
I know. I can't wait for the clan's going to.

Speaker 1 (02:24:00):
Try to eat during the segment and Wex is just
going to give him the nastiest side eye if he's
ever had in his entire life. So Tuesday, It's true,
it feels fair. Okay, all right? Uh so we were
waiting for Jacob, and why don't I just interview you
like you're Jacob Meltin. Please do? Hey, Jacob, what's it

(02:24:21):
like to be with the big league team here now
that you've come through an injury. I know you've been
through a lot and getting called up to a team
that needs a lot of help. I'm very excited to
be here. It was a long time away from the game.
I missed it and I want to help out the
best I can. Whether I'm playing in the outfield with
I'm DH and once in a while I pinch hitting.
I just want to do whatever I can to help
this team. From Ervelde is calling out the positioning of

(02:24:42):
the team yesterday. Do you think he's off his rocker
or you? What do you make of those comments? To
be honest, he needs to shut his bumb ass up.
I was playing center field yesterday. I had it handled.
What Wow? All right, Jacob, that's you're coming out very
strong against from Ervel. Does you have any personal beef
with him or anything I do when he's calling me
out playing my defense out there, and I think that
the tailor tramailtans me helped me out in center field.

Speaker 2 (02:25:04):
You know, Taylor Tramail, you can shut your ball mass
up too.

Speaker 1 (02:25:06):
Wow, I believe it. You're very combative today, Jacob. Do
you what do you think about your place in the
future and and things like trade deadline? You know, you're
you're a guy who's one of the top prespects in
the Astros system. You try to just keep your head
clear of that. Yeah, I try to. I don't have
to focus on that kind of stuff. I play one
game at a time. I just trying to do my best,

(02:25:26):
trying to figure out where I am. And you know, look,
I battled a couple of injuries over the last couple
of years. But when I when I get here on
this team, I want to help out. I want to contribute.
I want to get some home runs, I want to
get my second one, and I want to help us
end this losing street tonight. Yeah. One of the things
the Astros have talked about acquiring, or I should say
media fans, pundits, et cetera, is a left handed bat. Well,
you yourself a left handed bat. How comfortable have you

(02:25:47):
felt at the play at the major league level? Well, Rick,
that's a great question. I'm going to be happy to
answer it for you. I'm a guy that feels like ross. Yeah, okay, uh,
you know whoever they put me in, whether they need,
you know, I be that guy they don't need to
make a trade. I can be that slugging man. I'm
a number two prospects in the Astros organization. I'm a
top one hundred. I mean I'm here for a reason. Yeah. Oh,

(02:26:08):
you mentioned being number two? Is that something you pay
attention to? You were on some top hundred lists last year,
not so much this year. How much stock would you
put into top hundred lists of Jacob? Well, Robert, Number
one is Bryce Matthews and all he does is strike out.
So I got a chance of bumping myself up to
the top of the list. What was your favorite stop
in the Astros organization? Oh, being a woodpecker?

Speaker 2 (02:26:29):
Really? Where's that? It's in Fayetteville? Oh wow, you think
I know?

Speaker 1 (02:26:33):
So, I didn't know you'd know?

Speaker 2 (02:26:35):
Suck forget it.

Speaker 1 (02:26:36):
Why wouldn't you know, Jacob? You played there?

Speaker 2 (02:26:38):
I don't know if I did I play play there
or did I go right to double A.

Speaker 12 (02:26:41):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (02:26:42):
You tell me, Jacob, how many abs did you get
in Fayetteville? I had a lot of runner ruggers while
I was down there. What was your favorite thing about Fayetteville, Arkansas?

Speaker 2 (02:26:50):
Fayetteville the women?

Speaker 1 (02:26:52):
Really?

Speaker 2 (02:26:53):
Yeah, a lot of women there in Faetteville, Arkansas. It's
faith in North Carolina.

Speaker 1 (02:26:58):
I didn't know that. Duh. Sorry, thanks for correcting me.
How many favor thos are there? Jacob? This interview is
going terribly, Arkins. You know you went to organ Stay.
I wanted to come on the shows. I want to
ask talk in Houston versus Oregon Stay about the Beavers. Yes, okay,
because we're gonna win that game too. I don't see
us losing a game this year. I was supposed to
write believe it or not this whole segment that's going

(02:27:19):
to be horribly all right, let's go back to Big
City seventy five cent wings?

Speaker 2 (02:27:23):
What else we got to mention?

Speaker 6 (02:27:24):
Here?

Speaker 2 (02:27:24):
T do our buckets correct? And I got everything knocked out?
She don't know.

Speaker 1 (02:27:29):
She's like, why am I here? Who are you? I
don't know who you are. It's just a stranger in
this office. Oh you're a sports reporter. Oh, trying to
be stay away from him? Criminal record a little dicey. Yeah,
I think most of that got expunge. Fine, I think
I think President Trump gave you a parton that's got

(02:27:50):
a commutation.

Speaker 2 (02:27:55):
Yeah, we're trying. No, we're on the air.

Speaker 1 (02:27:57):
This this radio goodness is where it's it's little. It's
really working on the air. We used to be on
the show. Okay, we're really on the air. We have
all right, we have believe it or not cover it up?
All all things about Ryan Samberg may resume peace. Did
they just forget about us? Here's what's going on. I

(02:28:17):
don't know what happened. Were sppilled to have Jacob Mountain on?
No text, nothing zilch. Oh, well, Jacob, the opportunity has
come and gone. We're gonna eat some wings and get
ready for believing. Now we're playing for Big three tickets
for the big event that's coming up this weekend at
Tota Center. So if you would like to see Jacken
Meltain play but Calvin Murphy's team, they'll be at the
Tota Center this weekend Tota Center dot com for the

(02:28:38):
Big three tournament. We'll be giving away tickets next for
all things. Ryan Samberg, it is the Matt Thomash Old
Ross and this is Sports Talk seven ninety all right,
just got a word that Jacob Mountain doesn't like us
and is going to be on in two fifteen.

Speaker 2 (02:28:52):
Today.

Speaker 1 (02:28:53):
It is the Matt Thomas should Ross. I'm modeling right now,
me and Wings from Big City Wings. So five cent
wing day, Holla at you boy, ten dollars buckets. So
watch the game. Listen on seven one and go. He
wings period into story and they're ranch dressing in their
blue cheese.

Speaker 2 (02:29:08):
This also.

Speaker 1 (02:29:10):
So Ross. Our fake interview with Jacob melt was significantly
considered a bust by most people. But you have Yeah,
I can't talk to you, I'll talk to him. I'll
talk to the audience a couple of minutes. That's fine.
We've only been on the ear since ten and we
knew Believe or Not was gonna be out at nine
that we talked about and Believe it or Not at
nine thirty this morning and we're still working on it.

Speaker 2 (02:29:30):
That's fine. No issues. There had some ranch dressing on
my daytimer. That's not good. If you missed the conversation
with the manager.

Speaker 1 (02:29:42):
Joe's spotty was with us at twelve thirty today and
he said, look, doesn't he appreciates Fromber's passion. He understands
why he was upset. He just wishes he would have
come and talked to him before he went to the media.
That's exactly what happened, and Joe said that he would
speak to Fromber when the two arrived at the ballpark
today and questions asked and answered, thank you Joe for

(02:30:02):
his transparency. Sometimes we don't get that with our managers
and our coaches and our players, and we appreciate him
telling us that. So if you miss the conversation, I'm
sure the A team will be playing some of that
later on as well. Beside, so Jacob meltain watermind you,
tomorrow's game is a day game, so we will be
on the air from ten to twelve forty before sending
it to Dyke and Park for the finale of the series. Tomorrow,

(02:30:24):
we will have Brian Bogasvic join us at eleven o'clock.
We'll have shut your Bay mass up at eleven thirty
and of course get you ready for Astros Baseball at
twelve noon Mariners play the Ace tonight. That is one game,
and keep an eye on it's a nine o'clock Star time.
The Rangers are playing the Angels. So if you look

(02:30:45):
at the standings, it's a little scary. Honestly, the Astros
once had a seven game lead. They've lost four games
in the last with five days, they're four in their
last six. They've lost five in a row, and they
have lost eleven last home games. You go back to
the series before the All Star break. I don't want
to think about it. What happened to this team? This

(02:31:06):
team loved being a dike in park. Injuries very easy.
This is all injury related. Bottom line, it's all injury related.
We can quibble about who should be starting where, and
who's injured and who should be in what part of
the lineup, and blah blah blah. And our guy wants
to say they want them to hit the ball the

(02:31:26):
other way more and lay down some more bunts. Maybe
we undo this one of them. You and I despise
bunts now. It doesn't mean you can't use it occasionally occasionally.
I was especially a free runner and extra inning stuff
like that. And if you've got a guy that's slumping
and is a good bunter. Here's the thing that people
don't seem to understand, and it's hard to comprehend. There

(02:31:47):
are professional baseball players, major leakers, that have no ability
to bunt, and that hurts. Well, wait a minute, the
kid's been playing baseball two nine years old. You know what.
Jordan Alvarez is not a t I to attempt to
bunt since he was probably seven. Yan Air Diez probably
is not con I mean McCormick can bun a little bit,

(02:32:08):
although that's been dicey the last week or so. Now,
two Bay can bun a little bit. Jake Myers can
bun a little bit. That's three of the thirteen position players.
Rest of them, I don't want him touching it. No,
I don't. I don't want anybody button unless it's just
a dire situation. Like I said, it's the free runner
and the tenth or whatever. If there's anybody with any
slug like no let there's one out, I certainly don't
want to see it. He's got to be no outs

(02:32:30):
guy on second and you need to run to win
tenth inning. Absolutely try it with the guy over ninety
feet sackfly gets some home ball game over goodbye. Yeah,
but that's really about it. It's almost like when I
hear someone talk bunt, I dismissed the rest of the conversation.
That's how bad it gets for me. You probably should
five minutes left to go in the show. What should

(02:32:51):
we do?

Speaker 2 (02:32:54):
We should play.

Speaker 1 (02:32:56):
America's fastest growing sports radio game show. We simply called
it be Believe It or Not. And here's how it works.
You'll call seven one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one three two, one two five seven ninety
today's edition. I believe it on us all things about
the great Ryan Samberg. Don't you say anything just I
just said the great Ryan Samberg. May he rest in peace.

(02:33:16):
I'll read you just namement about Ryan Samberg.

Speaker 2 (02:33:18):
Stay. It was completely and utterly accurate.

Speaker 1 (02:33:19):
You'll say this, believe it sam a tier Roadies football.
Commeit up. You'll say this not two believe it or not?
Sent a row on all things Ryan Samberg. When you
a pair of tickets this Saturday, you'll be going to
the Big Three at Tota Center, fast paced, forty five
minute basketball, competitive three on three games. Marcus Morris won't
be there, so your life will be not in question.
UH Houston's righands team will be coached by Rockets great

(02:33:42):
Calvin Murphy. Cheer them on as they make their debut
that night. Tickets are on sale now at totacenter dot com.
That's Tota center dot com. You can win tickets to
see the Big Three. Let's go to UH Mark on
seven ninety Mark.

Speaker 2 (02:33:56):
You're ready to play?

Speaker 1 (02:33:56):
Believe it or not?

Speaker 12 (02:33:58):
Oh? I didn't know about that.

Speaker 4 (02:34:00):
Yeah, I'll play.

Speaker 1 (02:34:01):
It all right.

Speaker 2 (02:34:03):
I really hope you win. Sounds like you're ready to go.

Speaker 1 (02:34:06):
Ryan Samberg was named after the province of Ryan, Germany,
which is the region his grandfather immigrated from.

Speaker 2 (02:34:12):
Believe it or not.

Speaker 1 (02:34:14):
Believe it no Ny after Ryan during the relief picture, Uh,
he wasn't ready to play anyway. I got a bunch
of price hoars. Now, let's go to UH Hobber on
seven Anti Javy. Are you ready to play?

Speaker 2 (02:34:26):
Believe it or not?

Speaker 6 (02:34:28):
Yes, sir.

Speaker 1 (02:34:29):
Ryan Samberg was an All American quarterback in high school
and even committed to play at Washington State before turning
pro in baseball. Believe it or not, not, that is
a belief of it. Why don't people have Washington State
quarterbacks in the Moraine Ross. That's what I want to say.
Let's go to uh Randy on seven? Annie, Randy, what
was your favorite part of today? You send the two
radio show? Hugh, thank you. Ryan Samberg won the MVP

(02:34:56):
in nineteen eighty four, but did not finish in the
top five minutes any other season. Believe it or not,
that's not He finished top five multiple times. Statement number
two for the way. Ryan Samberg won nine Gold Gloves
and was a ten time All Star.

Speaker 2 (02:35:11):
Believe it or not?

Speaker 1 (02:35:13):
Believe it? That's a believe it congratulations. Do you know
what happens to us when you go to the Big Three?
What do you say? Let's have a good time? Oh yeah,
I guess you could say that too. Jao on seven
a E G. Are you ready to play?

Speaker 2 (02:35:29):
Believe it or not?

Speaker 5 (02:35:31):
Believe it?

Speaker 1 (02:35:31):
Ryan Samberg was supposed to be traded to the New
York Yankees in nineteen ninety three, but the trade was
veto by then owner Larry Hymes.

Speaker 2 (02:35:39):
Believe it or not?

Speaker 13 (02:35:41):
Believe it?

Speaker 2 (02:35:42):
No Ross made that up.

Speaker 1 (02:35:44):
That's a good one, Sam on seven, Auntie sam what
was your favorite part of today's radio show?

Speaker 5 (02:35:52):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (02:35:53):
Ryan Samberg's number seven. Jersey was not retired by the
Chicago Cubs. Excuse me was retired by the Chicago Comes
in two thousand and five. Number seven Jersey Believe it
or not Believe it?

Speaker 7 (02:36:06):
No.

Speaker 2 (02:36:06):
Number twenty three.

Speaker 1 (02:36:11):
Yeah Chazy got that easy, uh, Adam on seven ninety Adam,
you ready to play Believe it or not?

Speaker 13 (02:36:18):
Believe it.

Speaker 1 (02:36:18):
Ryan Samberg's first wife was his high school sweetheart, Cindy.
Believe it or.

Speaker 4 (02:36:23):
Not believe it?

Speaker 2 (02:36:25):
That's a right believe it statement.

Speaker 1 (02:36:27):
Number two for the way and Ryan Samberg managed the
Phillies for three seasons, posting a one hundred and nineteen
one fifty nine record.

Speaker 2 (02:36:34):
Believe it or not.

Speaker 4 (02:36:36):
Believe it?

Speaker 3 (02:36:37):
That is right?

Speaker 2 (02:36:37):
Congratulations?

Speaker 1 (02:36:42):
All right, Bross, I thought the last half hour of
the show sucked, but the brother first three and a
half hours were really good. Jacob Melton said, no thanks
to the eighth to the Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 2 (02:36:53):
Ross. He said, I want to.

Speaker 1 (02:36:54):
Go on Dude Team and he'll join you in about
