Speaker 1 (00:01):
Ten oh one in eh Town. Good morning, and welcome
do a Tuesday edition of The Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
This his Sports Talk seven ninety eight. I think I
went like six hundred and nineteen feet. Good lord, I
caught the jet stream out there. It's my top five today.
Really little three dollars jam Okay, not one of my favors,

(00:24):
but I felt it was appropriate because there was only
one run. I get you. I'm picking up what you're
putting down, Matthew. I'm trying trying to little little theme
for the opening moments of the radio program that we
call The Matt Thomas Show. A Ross, good morning, I'm Matt,
He's Ross. That is Jonathan, and we are with you
today until two o'clock. Where I mean, I don't think
there's a huge dissection into the Astros game. First fall,

(00:45):
it was at nine o'clock last night, so a lot
of people went to bed. Second of all, they were
only four runs scored. Three swings made the difference in
the ballgame Astros after dark, and it wasn't great initial
thought about watching a game from West Sacramento, California. It's weird.
I just don't want it feels like spring training this

(01:07):
and when they play in Tampa, right, you can just
tell with the crowd, with the fencing, with the the signage,
everything about it there in the whole minor league. Yeah,
everything there looks minor league, as you said, Yeah, during
during the broadcast, you can tell. And I just don't
like it. It cheap mends your product, Rob Manford in Major
League Baseball, and it's disappointing. And the crazy thing is

(01:27):
they're not going to have their stadium ready in Vegas.
Yeah until twenty twenty eight. They get three seasons of
this crap. You couldn't come up with anything better, I
mean twenty five, twenty six, twenty seven. Obviously they're not
worried about revenue. I mean the place only seas probably

(01:49):
with thirteen thousand and Mosey announced crowd last night. I
think they're drawing around nine thousand a game. I looked yesterday.
I mean, and there's probably some Compson to mix. Oh yeah,
there was signed out. You know, that's a lot of
revenue missed. Now. Yeah, obviously they've got Yeah, they've got

(02:09):
a lot of They got a new TV deal coming
up next year because ESPND will go away, and then
I'm presuming will not be nearly as financially rewarding as
what the deal is right now with the ESPN, because
ESPN's like, we're not paying for this anymore. We don't
get much value out of it. We clearly don't think
it's much of a sport because we get rid off,
we get rid of baseball time except on Sundays. Carl
ravitsches to play by play. I mean, it is what

(02:31):
it is. I mean they just haven't put a whole
lot of thought into it. Yeah, it's concerning, but whatever,
just go take the streaming money. You know, it's crazy Roku.
When ESPN got the cable package in, I want to
say it was about nineteen ninety or eighty nine, give
or tick. I think it's ninety. You don't remember this

(02:51):
because you were a young lad. They had a single
game on Mondays, a double header on Tuesdays, a single
game on Wednesdays, a doubleheader on Fridays. Wow, in a
Sunday night game. That was the That was John Miller
and Joe Morgan. The game they used call it the
game of the week. I don't know what they call

(03:11):
it now, but that was one, three, four six. They
had seven games a week, so they went all in
on the baseball package. Now again, Fox came in shortly
after that and took a lot of those games away
and put some games on cable and obviously did the
huge games of over the air stuff. But man, ESPN

(03:32):
used to really give a damn about baseball. I have
a stupid question, why why can't they do multiple games
a week in the summers?

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Now?

Speaker 1 (03:39):
What are they putting on in the summers at nights? Well,
college Series is on? Do you have WNBA, You've got
College World Series? And then they just kind of go
into offseason mode for like a month, month and a half.
You know, they carry spring games. They just you know,
live events cost money. All the investment in college football.

(04:00):
Maybe it starts to August. Yeah, but I mean, yeah,
you if you're going to if you're gonna if you
have a budget for live event coverage, are you going
to put on a Rando SEC game that's going to
get five times the audience and say a let's say
a decent game between let's say between the Guardians and
the Tigers. I mean, yeah, who's really gonna watch that?

(04:22):
It's not going to get you the ratings of the
SEC in college football package. Yeah I got yeah, but
I mean for a while, if you had a ESPN,
which most people did at the time, you got a
tremendous amount of package of baseball. I didn't have it
in nineteen ninety. You really didn't know. I remember as
a kid not having HSC, which was the cable channel,
and to be able to see a rare home game,

(04:45):
I was rubbing wires together and holding Bunny ears in
the in the greens Point Mattic. That's what I did
with Playboy channel. Ironically enough, Bunny years off the Playboy channel. No,
you rubbered something else. Excuse me, No, no, no, oh no,
that not me. Yeah. When I was a kid, the
Playboy channel was scrambled, so if you played with the

(05:07):
remote control thing on the top of your television, you
just hit the right spot. You a bill to see
a few seconds if you wanted to. Those of you
that know those old cable boxes, you know what I'm
talking about. Okay, there's some people like, no, man, I
don't know what's talking about. There are some that do,
and for that I respect you. Remember the scrambling and
the d scrambling. Oh yeah, you can do that with

(05:27):
a lot of any TV channel you wanted to. I
just happen at the second of the day back in
the day. Now you just pirate it on the internet. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
it's now. And that takes a while too, because there's
a lot of pop ups and whatnot, and you could
be doing some malware in your computer and then you
start loading up on hundred dollars to give that girl
some coins. And then you finally get to the game

(05:48):
you're trying to watch. Yeah, yeah, you really nailed it
there all the way through. It's almost like you know
what you're talking about. All right. Today on the radio program,
we will hear from Joe's spot coming up at twelve
thirty today. He will be with us from West Sacramento.
I know they're actually staying in downtown Sacramento.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
You know.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Interesting note from last night, he played in the first
game ever at that stadium. He was a second baseman
for the West Sacramento river Cats, which was an a
I think it was an A's farm club at the time.
And so he was there and twenty five years later
he's now back. Wow does the team lose three to one? Yeah?

(06:27):
On a walk off On a walk off blast, I
mean that was an angry home run. I don't know
if the wind was blowing out in that direction. I'm
petitioning Rob Manford to outlaw that. How far that home
run was hit? I want to say, and I know
there's an official measurement. I thought I saw him. Yeah,
I saw it yesterday too, but I thirty eight maybe

(06:48):
something like that. I flipped the TV off immediately and
went to bed. Yeah, well, I'll tell you what you
four forty seven got almighty XBA Matt one thousand. I
believe it's an XBA was mock three one hundred and
eleven point seven off the bat? Whoa, that was a
rocket and at there was a rocket as well. Yeah,

(07:11):
for sure. It was his hardest hit home run of
the hardest hit ball of the year. So think about this.
You have until they hits the home run of the
first ending your think and this is gonna be a
ninth booze on them. Yeah it felt good. Yeah, I
mean again, that's John Boys followed and now John boy
is a proud partner of Major League Baseball. You know what,
can I admit something to you that I don't want

(07:32):
to admit? Ooh, this is a this is deep I'm
gonna go and say, yes, you may. In general, in life,
I try not to allow things that I cannot control
bother me or anger me. You don't, I'll try to
channel and control my emotions. I don't always succeed. It
pisses me off. It pisses me off, and I don't

(07:53):
want to admit it. I don't wanna say it out loud,
because again, it's something I can't control. It's something that
I have nothing to do with. But it pisses me
off that jose Al Tuve is getting the booze that
he did because of what you exactly what you just said,
a made up buzzer thing with John Boy, and of
course to a lesser extent than the cheating scandal as

(08:15):
a whole, but still it became magnified and it became
much much worse, and he became the poster boy of
the cheating scandal because of the made up buzzer theory.
And it makes me angry. I was sitting there on
my couch, upset at a bunch of people in Sacramento, California.
I don't want to be here, but I must admit
to you the truth. I was angry. I understand it,

(08:39):
and I was once that way. It doesn't bother me anymore.
But I mean, there are certain things that you have
to hear about over and over and over again that
does bother you. It's just a made up buzzer theory.
And now this guy's getting millions from the from Major
League Baseball. We don't know bad, but I'm sure whatever,
I'm sure he's getting something of a financial advantage. They

(09:00):
Major League Baseball bought a minorities take in the job. Yeah,
and he's getting a boost, and he's getting access to
I mean, he used to get like copyright strikes for
using their intellectual property and their their highlights and stuff
like that, and that's all gone. I was talking National's officials,
and I'm like, you know, if John Boy Media calls
and say we want a player, you're gonna probably have
to acquiesce and get those players on because if you

(09:21):
don't guess what John Boy's gonna do, a lot of
phone called the Major League Baseball offices. In the Major
League Baseball officers are going to call the astro and say, hey,
he's a partner of ours. Now I'm gonna tell him
to shut their bump mess up. Tell me issue an
apology and we can talk. But that is you know
what it is again, it's it's the reality of they
have a young audience. They have a huge New York audience. Yes,
that has a lot of people to get on the internet.

(09:42):
And lastly, it kind of admits that Major League Baseball
does a poor job of tuning in connecting with the youth.
They went with a group of people that do connect
with the youth, and that's John Boy Media aspathetic. I'm upsett. No,
I don't mean to get you up set all right.
On the radio program today, besides Joe a spot, we
got gut Feelings coming up at eleven thirty today. This
is where you make your predictions about anything in the

(10:04):
world of support you'd like. We have also on the
show today, Ross's NFL rewind at one twenty right. You
knew that I sent that as a calendar on Saturday.
Oh yeah, I've been studying it. You don't have to
study that. We've been heaving doing NFL rewinded one twenty
four weeks. I got the magnifying glass and everything. It's
funny you didn't know. I'm sorry, is on Friday and

(10:24):
I sent that out a long time ago. Oh, that's
because we had so many stuff to get to. Are
you sure? Yeah, that segment we took Jay, we did.
I'm sorry we wouldn't have got our young ten ten
year old collar j well year old planting year old. Yeah,
I'm not blaming him. I'm saying it gave us a ford.
This opportunity is a great content. Well, the most important
role we have on the show is that the caller.

(10:46):
Good callers are better than any mid bits that we do. Yes,
so sometimes you have to be you have to be
flexible and change things. So you know what, I missed
it and I'm sorry. And because people are probably holding
they wait till the thirty to Farnie to say there,
I'm sorry. Some things get it off their chest. That's true,
all right. Seven one three two one two five seven ninety.

(11:06):
If you'd like to be a part of our radio
Today's show, we'd love to have you. That's seven one
three two one two five seven ninety. Did Lance pick
Color's ailment happen while we were on the air or
did the eight team drop that diamond there in their show? Open?
I think it happened during their show. They get every
break in the world.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
I know.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
It's just awful. They don't do on decks except it's
in their own time slot. They don't do the ten Thinnings,
they don't work on the weekends. They get major headlines
dropped in them nine times out of ten, they'd be
a shame of themselves. Seven one three, two, one two
five seven ninety. It is ten twenty one. Good morning,

(11:47):
Matt Thomas Show with Ross continues. We're with you today
until two pm. Gut filings again coming up in an
hour from now. That's where you make your sports predictions.
And again, the thing I do appreciate about sports, about
the gun feelings is if you hit, please calling brag
on yourself. We do our fair share of bragg in here.
I mean, yesterday I declared I was number one dad
available out there in the world. And so if you

(12:07):
hit in your gut feelings, let us know and we'll
give you the proper props. Thank you, Matt, thank you.
Uh yeah, So mccullor is on the injured list with
a toe injury that apparently happened during a what they
call a freak weight room incident. Okay, you know it's

(12:30):
flexing too hard in the mirror. I don't stumble. I
don't know if that's necessarily the situation. Okay, you know
they did provide what happened, and you can take it
for what it's worth. No, it's fine. I like it.
The injuries literally as far as possible as it could
be from his elbow, so I'm feeling good. It's funny

(12:51):
if you were listening to a radio show hopefully this
station's in the A team, if you say Lance mccullor's injury,
the first thing you think is, okay, is it the
elbows at the forearm? Here we go again. And when
it was almost like when you found out it was
his foot, you go, okay, sign of relief. Yes, So
I got I had I don't know. I was at

(13:11):
home and doing whatever, and I was wasn't on Twitter
and wasn't online, and I just kind of flipped to
Twitter for a second and I got a DM from
just a random listener who sends me stuff every now
and then, and it said, so Lance is headed for
TJ surgery. Huh, that's what the DM said, And I
didn't know it was a joke. So I went in
a panic and had to find out what the heck

(13:32):
was going on and saw there was a foot injury. Yeah,
but likely like you said, yeah, your first thought is like,
oh my god, your first thought is the worst, and
that's what happened to me. Very That's that's totally totally normal.
I mean I would have done the exact same thing. Again,
that's a foot injury. That's why you have to be
careful that you have to listen to everything, because you
would have if you would have said, Lance mcculor is hurt.

(13:55):
Let's say you turn the station, you go, oh, I
can't believe it is now I'm in a bad mood
you and not known it was the foot. Not as
if I would have texted you, or you would have
texted me lancemic color junior to the il, that's would
have been our first thing. I thought would have been
right elbow discomfort or something I should have done that
I should have I should have slow played it. Why
are you trying to put me people in a panic? I
think it's part of it's part fun. It's not fun. No,

(14:16):
it's not fun. Matt making people worried. Yeah, I guess
it's true. Like that happens all the time when people
send stuff like did you hear what that guy said
about you? No, what do you say? What do you say?
He said he liked you. I mean, you know one
of those things that you go, oh okay, and I
I got googed on. So all right, so the Astros

(14:37):
fall three to one. Now, the good news is that
the Red Sox beat the Mariners in Seattle yesterday. Let's
go Socks. But the Mariners don't want to win very
many games. Say well, yeah, they swept the Guardians, but
other than that, they've been losing their ass a lot
of home losses. In fact, I think it was too
nothing the final score, last Mariner fan, that's a shame. Well,
I mentioned that you guys mentioned to you last week

(14:57):
we went to the America League West Rundown. Being an
American League West fan will the exception clearly of the
Astros and to a lesser extent, the Rangers, because they
are two years removed from a World Series. It's painful.
I mean, the Angels have spent money, they've not spent money.
They've spent money. Annown spent money, and they're always going
to be the Bashard step child and the little brother

(15:20):
to the Dodgers. Do you have the Mariners, who have
had a great baseball community, a huge sports town, and
a beautiful facility, and that team never has a history
of spending any kind of money. And then you have
the A's who are in Sacramento now, and I guess
they're going to be in Las Vegas in three years.

(15:41):
But damn, I mean, what are they slow playing in
the stadium? Ye, it's I don't know. I was starting
to explain to my son, I said, they're going to
be uh in Sacramento for three season? And goes, what
are they? Are they working like twenty hours a week
with long vacations or no they play? They're planning for
a couple of Union strikes. I mean, how long I
got these things? We don't know. How long would it
take to build a stadium? I guess at least three years.

(16:04):
I don't know. I guess we can go look at
recent constructions. What's the newest stadium in baseball? I'm going
to assume it's the Marlins Park down there. I don't know.
A Globe Life Field as well. Okay, how long? Google says, Okay,
how long did Global Life Field take to build? Google?

(16:24):
Loosing too right? I'm googling jeez, what do we do
without Google in our world? By I don't know, without
ever the answer somehow though we got dumber. We have
the answer to every single thing and the history of
the world that ever happened at our fingertips, and the
society got dumber. It's pretty crazy. Actually, what it's funny
because they they call and ask us these things when
we all we have to do is check on Google ourselves.
That's true. Oh. A section of the roof caught fire

(16:48):
in twenty nineteen while under construction. It said.

Speaker 4 (16:51):
The official groundbreaking for a globelf field took place on
September twenty eighth, twenty sexteen, with construction being completed in
less than thirty months.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
That includes what Ross just said. So you're talking about
thirty months. That's way less than I mean, hell, are
they gonna be ready in time for they had to
be ready by the March of twenty twenty eight. Yeah,
so you got three and a half years to get
this bad boy ready to go. I don't know. Our
construction costs higher in Vegas and there are other places.

(17:22):
Perhaps maybe it's the hot conditions, maybe there could be
maybe some labor laws. But they have this soil too,
and how that rain is over there all it's all cleared.
It's you know, there is no signs of the Tropicana anymore.
It is. The whole hotel has been gone, so they
got rid of that. It's what I need in a
construction expert on the show. How do you take three

(17:44):
and a half years of bill again? It's gonna be
a small stadium too, It's gonna be about what thirty
four thousand you said yesterday sawhere in that range. I
don't know. It's not like you're building three or four decks,
not like you're building a permanent roof over the way. Yeah,
you're installing the slot machines. That's gonna take extra time, Matt. Yeah,
the blackjack tables. That's how you draw a third in
five years in the age are losing ninety five games

(18:04):
AGA every year, that's how you draw You bring them
in that way.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
Look, they get down five to one in the third inning,
head to the head of the tables. Yeah, I mean
they have slots at the airport. Why can't you have slots?
They should do that. They should pick like better payouts
than the slots when the team's losing or something. Like that. Hmm. Well,
the problem is these casinos want you to go to

(18:28):
their hotel and best gamble when the games are done.
Like if you try to go to a Raiders game,
or for that matter, a Golden Knights game in Las Vegas,
you can't park in the norse parking anywhere. They want
you to park at these hotels, and you get a
lot of the hotels that are around the stadium say
this way to Allegian Stadium, this way to T Mobile.
Arenas so free parking running shuttles. Probably I don't even

(18:51):
know if it's free. I mean, I guess if you like,
if you got a player's card or something like that,
probably can take care of your tickets. But yeah, all
the hotels we walked around on the strip the night
we were in the Strip last week all had signs
to say this way to T Mobile, this way to
Leading Stadium. So obviously they've gotten coots with the hotels.
Imagine that cahoots and government and facilities in Las Vegas, Nevada. Wow,

(19:11):
probably the most corrupt city in North America. Would you say, mmm,
I was gonna go baton Rouge? Oh yeah, Any Louisiana
city's corrupt that's for sure. Atlantic City probably is pretty correct. Yeah,
well probably Vegas one. Vegas one, Baton Rouge Metro Area two, Yeah,
Shreeport three, Monroe four, Alexander, Alexandria five. I think I

(19:36):
think I'm tapped out New Orleans six like Charles seven. Sure,
I think we've we've knocked out. Oh, Lafayette eight. Can't
forget lafayet. Yeah, I got, we got stop naming the Louisia.
I'm sorry. Yeah, it's I couldn't help. It's a nervous switch,
you have, it is all right? Seven one three, two
two five seven ninety. So the Astros game didn't provide

(19:59):
much offense. Did the NBA Finals give us much drama?
We'll discuss that coming up in a minute. Seven one
three two one two five, seven to nine. If you
want to be a part of our radio show today,
we'd love to have you. We do invite callers. We
invite really good ones to call. If you're a lousy caller,
we'll still accept you, but we could make fun of you.
But it's only just done in good fun, right Ross.
We don't generally hate. It depends.

Speaker 4 (20:21):
I hate some of the caller call in and wanted
to say to you, Matt that she loved the intros
and the songs you pick every time, and she wished
she did every day.

Speaker 1 (20:28):
Wow is that her name? Anna? I just saw her
name pop up on the screen. Shout out to you, Anna,
Thank you Anna. Yeah, we try to find songs that
fit the theme of the of the highlights, and one
was the loneliest number we had last night, especially Ross.
That was one nothing. I swear to god, I was thinking.
I was telling Kemp, I said, this is counna be
a seven to one game. I can scrunch the highlights.

(20:49):
And meanwhile I was just waking up and going to sleep.
Opening back up. It was one nothing, then it was
one one, and I gotta watch this thing. And then
I watched that home run that I don't believe is
landed yet still in the Northern California jet stream. Yeah,
it's always horrible when you stay up late night West
Coast to watch and then they lose. Makes you extra cranky.
Seven one three two one two five seven nutties. Please

(21:12):
bear with us, as we mentioned the NBA scorer from
last night. Yeah, you know, it's funny because David Barron
used to write TV radio articles for the Chronicle, and
he would put in the Houston ratings for just Houston events,
how a particular game did or an event. And so
I don't think Greg Ranjan, who does some TV and

(21:33):
radio reporting for the Chronicle, puts that in his columns
or well, let's go get get together Greg. What are
you doing down there? I got ten things going on?
And if you notice, I know he's very The newspair
business is not particularly thriving. Yeah, I know. Uh, court reporting. Yeah,
he's selling ads? Is that was that? What's her name?
He's running security, Livy dun Yes, Matt fu say, look,

(21:59):
we even get a live sporting event on it and
you can't focus. He just whistled. Yeah, no, that was
that was the dog whistled. Now that was you. That
was a mad tom. That was a cat call. Yeah,
why are you? Why are you stomping your foot and
dog whistling? Had that used to work back in the
day if you whistled like no, no, And by the way,
back in the day is nineteen sixty four. Shut your

(22:22):
ball mass up. That that is back in the day. Yeah.
I was not around the cat whistle in nineteen sixty four, Okay,
I was hooting and hollered in nineteen eighty would you
call nineteen sixty four back in the day in nineteen
ninety four? Who is ninety is ninety four? Back in
the day? Ninety fours? Back in the day. You want
my opinion on this? No, no, I don't want your opinion. No,
we didn't ask for your opinion anything. Go ahead, what

(22:42):
do you got No, No, I said, no, no, whatever
nineties now throw guy? Yeah, of course, yeah, I know.
Hell no, we knew that when we had it. Remember
we had that. Uh. We had some interns like ten
years ago and they were doing they were talking about
their so already had nineties parties, and we were like,
oh we feel old. Yeah. The thing that now it's
like two thousdies. Well, it's like my son, my oldest
is like, man, Dad, I've been going back on Netflix

(23:05):
or Hulu. This show Friends is funny. Yeah, the kids
caught back on Friends. Yeah, they did. Which friend sucks?
By the Wayted, if it's on it's like the burg
Kingdom sitcoms. If it's around, I'll eat it, I'll watch it.
But you're not going to go out of your way,
correct Now. It was part of the one of the
greatest television nights in the weekends in TV history, Thursday Nights.

(23:29):
But yeah, I didn't necessarily. Yeah, I liked it when
I was twelve. I thought it was hilarious. Yeah, and
I grew up. Yeah, I mean, first of all, Jennifer
Anison's character, she was such a smoke show and yeah,
and Ross, I mean, please, there's no chance that Monica
is is there Nay Monica or Noel Rachel would ever

(23:49):
want to hook up with the Ross by the way, Yes, please.
Jennifer Anderson, Courtney Cox, best one two punch in sitcom history.
This is My forte. Jenn Andison was so hot she
made Courtney Cox's and like smoke show television back sat

(24:12):
She somehow became underrated because she was on the same
show as Jennifer Andison. So you're talking about in their primes. Okay,
let me give you some can I know people like
the Gilligan's Island, Oh, Marianne and uh uh Ginger, m hm,
that's gonna be in that list, Ginger, mari Ann Rachel

(24:38):
and uh what's her name? Character's name? Courtney Cox's name, Monica, Monica,
I can remember either. We are old. You could go
Chrissy and Janet, but Jenna was a pretty far drop off.
Chrissy was such a prime though on threes company mm
hmmm those two. One more and then we'll go back
to the NBA s. I don't care waiting for NBA

(24:58):
Elene Bennison, George Costanza, pretty good one too? No oh no, no, no,
who's another great one? Two punch? Got marinate on it, Matt.
You don't have to do it right now? Okay, all right,
so last night you tweet us at sports RV and
at sports empty. We don't we need a fourth one?
And then we can put them on a pole. Question.
It's gonna be friends. It's gotta be yeah, I would think.

(25:19):
So I'm turning. Think of the shows that I watched.
I never watched Two Broke Girls? Are those girls? How
are those girls? Okay? Let me let me give you
the rundown on Two Broke Girls? The blonde was unbelievably
hot still end of this day. The brunette was thicker
and probably did things. Did what things, Matt? Everything like

(25:43):
what pilates hot yoga? Um, let's just say she masket weaving.
My guess is her character came across someone that would
be not necessarily difficult to conquer. Conquer. I don't know
that's the word. I'm just all right, well, moving along.

(26:06):
What were we talking to me? Okay, NBA Finals, it's funny.
Not the most will get We'll get more tweets about
the one two punches. And it got a got a
little close there. It did start to feel like one
of those games where the pacers were kept they were
keeping within ten or twelve, keeping with it in ten
or twelve, and then they make their move, so I
would go. I was going back and forth between that

(26:27):
and the nine o'clock, and every time I would go,
it'd be a fourteen sixteen point leader, and then I would
turn it back and it was four to six, and
then go back. It was like Indiana would would waste
all this andery not waste, but it would use all
this energy to get within a two baskets and they
just couldn't get over the hump. I'm gonna get your
second TV, Matt cart I was in bed. I didn't
want to go in bed. That's fine, Yeah, I can't

(26:49):
get dry pad out. I gotta cost it in. Chrissy
and Janet for the one two punch, you know, listening
to the show. What I just say two minutes ago,
were you talking to Jonathan both I'm just on both
of you. Jonathan, you're right here, I said, Christy and
janit in a minute. He's very busy back there doing
what Texans girlfriend probably so just looking at Yeah, Chrissy

(27:10):
probably over Jennifer Aniston in their prime, but Courtney Cox
way better than Janet in their primes.

Speaker 2 (27:26):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 1 (27:27):
So you went with the second part. Yeah, I'd have
to go. I'd have to go, friends, because the two
is better than one and a half. Okay, back the
NBA here we go. So so yeah, uh there one
went away. Oklahoma City is gonna win this championship. Think
they're gonna fish them off in six? Good bye way,

(27:47):
Game number six is gonna not gonna be in two
more days Thursday. That's okay, a couple of days off, everybody,
let it marinate. Jeez. I was thinking about because I
woke up this morning about three o'clock and didn't go
back to sleep. I was thinking these NBA fives. You know,
the playoffs started, what third week of April, we're about
to hit We're in mid June, two full months to

(28:10):
play a sixteen team tournament. It's pretty wild, but it's
calculated and honestly, again, I've said this one hundred million times.
The NBA can say they don't care about the ratings,
but their sponsors are going to care about the ratings.
And I don't know if it's ever gonna be a

(28:31):
change to that, But the NBA has already got their
guaranteed contracts coming in. Now again, you're gonna you're gonna
have these sponsors. The NBA is gonna say, what, we
can't build momentum when you're playing twice a week. That's
exactly exactly what they've done. Now were you and I
are sports fans. You and I are basketball fans, so
we know when it's going to be on. But the

(28:52):
average person I go to the barbershop, they don't know
the game's on. They don't know when they play. They
are when they play next. That's tough. Yeah, that's the
one thing I do credit baseball about again, because baseball
is obviously a different sports. Yeah, you can you play
two games, you take an off day, two games, take
an off day, and you're done with these series in
a relatively short period of time. Now, a lot of
that is because, first of all, baseball plays consecutive days

(29:15):
a lot. Secondly, if you started taking three or four
days off in between games, you're gonna run into some
weather issues. You don't even remember fifteenth playing in Boston
at twenty four degrees. Well, Aaron Gordon of the Nuggets
that he wanted every playoff game to be two days
off in between. Well, that's that isn't surprise me that
an athlete would say that. Extra he got hurt? Yeah, yeah,

(29:36):
extra rest gives you an opportunity to ail what and
get you back on the exactly. All right, So we're
looking for one more combination is that we're doing here.
Let's see if we can got anybody on Twitter's got
one more combination for us? Oh, Ashley and Hillary Banks.

(29:56):
Now she was very young when that show started. We'll
talk about Yeah, we're talking because the rules we're talking
about is in their primes and I'm not going to
go to the Ashley car Hillary Oh hell yeah. Yeah.
It was a big Tatiana Ali fan though. Yeah, what

(30:17):
is she doing these days? I don't know, looking beautiful? Okay?
Uh oh oh, we got it. Bourbon and baseball, Pamela
Anderson and yas mean belief what sitcom was that it
was Baywatch. That's not a sitcom. Yeah, but I'm gonna
talking about TV shows, Okay. Were they together? Yeah? Or
consecutively together? Okay? And he also you also had Nicult

(30:39):
Egert if you wanted to go back way on that
one familiar the Blonde, I didn't really watch. Oh go
go google Nicole Eggert. I mean, I'm sorry that show sucked.
It's terrible. I mean, I understand you want to watch
nobody nobody want I know you want to watch bouncing
bosoms and the bikinis. I get it. And the issues
with this thing, say, there's an issue, like you said,
other than that the show is terror, all right, David Hasselhoff,

(31:03):
It's ridiculous. It was so cheesy, uh peak? Was it
late eighties early nineties cheese? I'm sorry. Frankie Valley says,
beat Arthur and Betty White. I don't think so that's
a good one. Actually that's actually not terrible seven one
three two one two. But what is Rue McClanahan thinking, Uh,
she's thinking she's got to get her energy up. Are
any of the Golden Girls and the mom alive? Yes

(31:25):
or no? Quickly. No, you sure, no, but I'll say no,
they're all dead seven one three, two, one two five
seven ninety all right. The thing that makes our show
so good is that we show prep in the middle
of segments. So we have decided to keep it just
a comedy. And we have a poll question up right
now at sports MT at Sports MT. And also, you

(31:49):
don't have people in mind retweeting. I appreciate that.

Speaker 3 (31:51):
Man.

Speaker 1 (31:51):
Gosh, you know I got to build you up in
their prime the best one two female sitcom duo. Look,
I'll even give you a like look at this, Okay,
it's easy Chrissy Janet from Three's Company, Rachel and Monica
from Friends Kelly and Jesse from Saved by the Bell
That's good, and Caroline and Maxim two broke girls, Rachel

(32:13):
and Monica running Away. I would agree with you. Like
I said, this is Reagan in eighty eight. It is
a beat down. What a pull by you. I'm gonna
start calling you mister political science. Please don't call me
that too late. That's your tag. So what I want
you to do, Jonathan, is I want you to look
at those four combinations yourself, and then when you decide

(32:35):
at the end. It's when you've when you've decided which
four of your favorites. Let us know which one of
the four is your favorite. Okay, okay, the little show
so far, the early votes are in Chrissy and Janet,
Mono and Mona with Rachel and Monica. Hmmm, okay, the
things you learned about the audience Again, my phiosphere of
this is Chrissy was the number one of the group,

(32:56):
but Janet is a significant drop off from the to
the second seed. By the way, I got Lisa Turtle
ahead of Kelly, no chance. She was cute, but it
was Jesse and Kelly and Lisa Turtle is a drop
of thirty. Well current Lisa Turtle for sure. Yeah. What

(33:18):
happened to her? She went crazy? Is she? Yeah? Okay, unfortunate.
Let's talk to some people. We'll talk. Okay, Sure, we
gotta get back to sports because that's what the people
listened for the show. For Jim in Missouri City on
seven on eight, Jim, good morning, Hello Jim. Let's try
this one more time. Here. I know what happened. Somebody

(33:39):
must have restarted this computer. Go he's got it, Hi, Jim, Hey,
can you guys hear me, yes, sir, go ahead, please.

Speaker 5 (33:46):
Hey man, real quick before my quick sports take regarding
the topic. Yeah, before we get to the topic about
the sitcom yesterday. I didn't get a chance to call you, Matt,
but you swear in or to one of the greatest
lines that I've heard you say.

Speaker 1 (34:05):
It was absolutely awesome.

Speaker 5 (34:06):
You guys were talking about naps and you if you
ever needed a four hour nap, you'd listen to the
A Team.

Speaker 1 (34:11):
Yes, freaking standing. That is a mic drop moment.

Speaker 5 (34:15):
That's a golden Radio gold moment, because there is a
case to be made that you could change that name
of that show to the sleep Age Team because uh,
absolute might drop moment.

Speaker 1 (34:26):
It was outstanding. You know, I was. I was just
teasing them, so that was just an easy way to
tease you tease but there, Okay, I won't I won't
go there. But good because apparently somebody called Sean this
morning and ripped the crap out of me. This guy
named Jim and Cypress, who have blocked on Twitter. Hey,
this is Jim. I know there's different gyms. It's a
very popular name, but thank you. Was it was a

(34:46):
I love dabbing those boys and they take it because
they jabbed me too, and it's all in good fun.
But continue on your Astros and or one two punch
combination conversation, I.

Speaker 5 (34:53):
Hear you, and then a real shout out to my
Aggi's winning the outdoor Track and Field champions.

Speaker 1 (34:57):
Yes, let's go, Ba, let's go well. No no, no, Peggy,
no no. I brought it up. I brought it up.
I brought it up because you need it. I brought
it up because you needed a fourth. I did have
a fourth. We have, we have, we have our four
lockdown like that mat.

Speaker 5 (35:22):
Did you ever see her as Jemma and uh sons
of anarchy? Because she like stepped up her.

Speaker 1 (35:27):
Game with I did not. Now I've had I've had
a thing for Christina Applegan for a long time. So
that that that you do? Good points for that?

Speaker 5 (35:34):
Yeah, uh, real quick on the Astros, if yesterday was
just such an Astro thing to do as great of
a run as we've been on for over the past,
you know, close to ten years, it's like how many
to be determined or somebody called up from the minor
league starts against the Astros and just shuts us down,
and I'm like, it was such a frustrating game to

(35:56):
watch yesterday. You get one run, you can't you know,
it's the A's for Christ's sake. And every once in
a while they'll, you know, they'll pull a game out
of there, you know what. But I mean, that was
just like such an astro thing to do with the
the the starting pitcher that we were facing. Our guys
don't have much of a hitting game plan about trying

(36:18):
to go opo. I mean that the guy was throwing
nothing but breaking pitches and you know, you're trying to
pull them in. The only time we ever got good,
good hits is when they left the ball up, you know,
and you could pull it. But everything else they're trying
to pull stuff that you shouldn't.

Speaker 1 (36:32):
So it's a it was.

Speaker 5 (36:33):
Frustrating, but you know, I'll take I'll take where we're
at with the astros, all things considered, with the injuries,
and uh, we just absolutely have to get your on
back soon. This is I don't know how much longer
we can keep keep doing this. But anyway, so those
were my comments.

Speaker 1 (36:49):
Thanks for the phone called. Don't be a strange of
the show. We appreciate you listening very much. It wasn't
I hear that such an astro to do. I got
news for you, all baseball fans. You're gonna lose games
by scoring one run. Everybody loses games by scoring one run.

(37:10):
Even the Dodgers will lose, even the Yankees will lose games.
It's going to happen. And oh, by the way, your
worst teams in baseball, not count of the Rockies typically
wins sixty to sixty five, even if they're one of
the worst teams in baseball. So I don't chalk it
up to it was an astro s type loss. It
was a loss where a team that isn't crushing a

(37:33):
baseball and never has this year, continues to do what
it normally does, and that's score low numbers. Yeah, he's
talking about the like the opposing pitcher not being a
lockdown guy and locking down the lineup. But I also
feel like it is a very astro thing and it's
kind of fun to say. But I think every baseball
fan base says it, like you don't you think opposing

(37:55):
fan base is like the Twins fan base is like
Brandon Walter, who's this guy shot? He is down? Think
Twin fans about feels about Colton Gordon knocking out that
Minnesota lineup. Yeah, so it happens, but it does feel
like just when it's your team, it's like, this guy's
got it now. Mitch Spence wasn't that bad, but this
is some guy who's barely got ten major league starts.
He's got are six fifty. It's time for him to

(38:17):
throw six shut out against the Astros. It does feel
like that happens, but I imagine that feels like it
happens to every fan base. Yeah. I we had somebody
in our group chat was like, oh my god, the
Astlers are just did this to us again. I'm like, bra,
this is gonna happen a bunch more times. Yeah, they
hadn't been given a run. So yeah, that was the
third time this year that Brian Obrady was giving up

(38:38):
an earn run. He's doing okay, he's playing every other day.
Basically he's got I think it's got three losses in
his areas two something like that. Yeah, I means there's
just not a whole lot of offense. Yeah, honestly, second
hour The Matt Thomas Show begins with Ross in a
matter of moments on Sports Talk seven ninety seven one
three two, one two five seven Honty, Well update our

(39:00):
poll question today the best one two comedy punch not
in terms of acting skills, but you know, you just know.
Eleven o two Sports Talk seven Hony. We thank you
for being a part of the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
We don't say this enough Ross, but I think it's
the truth. We love having all of you be a

(39:20):
part of our show. Whether you're giving us good nature, grief,
taking unnecessary unnecessary shots at us at other on on
the radio show. You take more unnecessary shots at any
money in the entire planet. I'm gonna try to be
better about it. Call you stray Thomas. Would you now
who's calling in? Getting upset? Somebody? A great listener of ours,
Kathy sent me a tweet that said that some douche

(39:44):
named Jim and Cyprus rips on our coverage of baseball,
and then he apparently took a shot at me during
the conversation. I'm sorry, Matt, it's fine, and I would
looked at who this person was and I had blocked
him on Twitter, so maybe he's mad. You know, if
you gets hit by a tree, I hope he recovers.
Speaking of that, I was driving in the storms yesterday, yes,

(40:07):
or maybe the day before.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
Whatever.

Speaker 1 (40:08):
Yeah, the car right in front of me, A tree
branch fell on them, on top of them. Well that's
because you show it was like five seconds away from me,
and they didn't call Affordable Tree service today. Well it
was in the middle of the street. Well then somewhere
somewhere where the City of Houston needs to call them,
because hey, you hear that, call Affordable Tree. They'll take
care of you. Make sure that doesn't happen on mid

(40:28):
May rive. Why are we ah wood way, They're not
what we You can't can't be sponsored. Okay, Yeah, a tree,
the car right in front of me, it was. It
was very crazy. Yeah. By the way, Gordy is back
in the day after his uh long trip to uh

(40:51):
from California to Corpus Christie, spend the night and getting
here were you bizarrely tried to call him a lyar
on air. Well, but I was not. He he was like,
I heard what you said. You are right. You can
only keep a person on a plane three hours. Yeah,
but you got to call him a liar. People, let
me tell you he's a little strong. He's not a liar.
He's an embellisher. You're right, it was only five and

(41:14):
a half hours. You know, I have two women in
my life that are terrible embellishers, and I love them desperately. Okay,
your wife and my mother, they're both huge embellishers. Okay,
and how does that make you feel bad? I kept
to get in the car and correct them. Interesting. What's
it like for you dealing with these type of embellishments.
It's minimal. Okay. You're looking for a deep dive in this,

(41:37):
aren't you. No, I'm just asking you know, my stories
are usually truthful. I didn't mean to make that noise.
That was him. Look at child making sound effects. I
was an accident, by the way I'm going, and saved
by the bell. Oh, Kelly and Jesse, Okay, I got

(41:58):
your classic, all right, We'll dated a couple of times
real quick. On the scoreboard of the best one to
two female duos in sitcom history, at fifty two percent,
it's Rachel Lamonica should be more twenty seven percent, Christi
and Janet, sixteen percent Kelly and Jesse, and five percent
Caroline and Max from Two Broke Girls. Well, at least

(42:18):
they've gott in some love. These are the guy coming
in a zero percent? Yeah, that's true, all right? Seven
one three two one two five seven ninety Kevin Durant up.
We need Kevin Durant update. I think if by the
time we get produced ad, he'll he'll have a team
by then, right, don't you think probably we could sing
on ourselves?

Speaker 2 (42:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (42:36):
I know, okay, Key update on the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross Katie update. We're stuck at that point. Well
he it said Matt and Ross's show. Is what the
last one said on Matt and Ross's Show, Katie Update.
But where is Kevin eventually going to go?

Speaker 2 (42:59):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (42:59):
See, you can always used to go when we use
shows very it's classic. We're gotta we gotta find something
more original. Let's talk to Roger wants get some astros
chatter going hello Roger, good.

Speaker 6 (43:11):
Morning, yells the boat man. What about Ronnie Anderson.

Speaker 1 (43:18):
From w k APE and Cincinnati. What the hell are
y'all talking about?

Speaker 2 (43:22):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (43:22):
Yeah, that was a good that was good?

Speaker 6 (43:24):
Then don't sleep off Thelma Woods.

Speaker 1 (43:28):
No, no, Thelma, I get you.

Speaker 6 (43:30):
Well.

Speaker 1 (43:30):
Loma was on in due by the way, we forgot
Ginger and Marianne. We mentioned them, but I didn't put
them on the list. That's your list. I don't know.
On the other those second list, who charmed Oh that
was in a sitcom?

Speaker 6 (43:48):
Yeah, but still.

Speaker 1 (43:51):
And by the way, Lavernon Shirley know and no serious
hell knows on both. What do you mean those are
Milwaukee Eights. No, they're not. They're Houston minus. They're threes
worked in Milwaukee, they were Okay, I got that right.
Uh yeah, but they're Yeah, they're Houston, both alive, both dead,
one alive, one one apiece. They're both dead.

Speaker 3 (44:13):
Dang.

Speaker 1 (44:15):
In fact, I don't believe anybody from that show is
still alive. I think they even like the Grip the
Key Grip Letting and Squiggy are alive. What about the
Boom Operators. I don't know the behind the scenes, but
I think the Big Ragoo is dead. I think the
mom and dad are dead. The Big rag Goo. Yeah, okay, yeah,
this Milwaukee Eights, they're not Milwaukee Eights. I've been to Milwaukee.

(44:39):
They're like Milwaukee four and a half. The rest of
America minus threes like that. You always talked about how
the girls in Wisconsin are big. They are big, they
were and surely aren't. Yeah, but they're okay to Kevin Durant,
are you uh? Are you over consumed by the amount

(45:02):
of people tweeting and saying that they know things? No,
I haven't even seen it. Tell me what you're talking about.
You never want to give it any I don't know
what you're talking about. I can go on the for
you tab. Okay, let's just I'll give you an exercise
in this. Right now, I'm gonna go to the for
you tab. Huh, And I'm gonna look up anytime I
see Kevin Durant stuff. Come up. Here we go. Okay,
start the start, start the clock, go past the ai

(45:25):
large breasted ladies, and then that are in the your
for you tab. Here we go something called the summit Commish.
Who is that? I don't know. You gotta mute these
people Rockets. Acquiring Kevin Durant is equivalent to the Astros
getting Verlander in twenty seventeen. Young up and coming corps
poise for a chance at a title, needing one future

(45:46):
Hall of Famer to push him over the top. Don't
over complicate this, and then he puts in all caps,
go get Kevin Durant and go win a championship. Agree
to disagree Next, I disagree at NPLS oranges at the
Dunk Sun Central. An NBA scout says teams trying to
trade for Kevin Durant are just looking to sell jerseys.

(46:09):
Most teams that want him are teams that just want
to sell jerseys at this stage of the game. Though
he's thirty six thirty seven years old, I don't see
him being a real benefit. Let's see, I don't see
a real benefit in giving up much for him. He's
not leading anyone to the Promised Land anymore. A team
could take him as a rental to move merchandise for
a year, and that's not a terrible idea. Just don't

(46:29):
mortgage the future. Anyone from that thirty five in overcrowd
isn't worth it these days. Kevin Durant is part of
that crowd. Now, who put that you need to meet
that person? That's from so stupid. That's from an NBA
scout telling Amiko Hoops that Who is Amiko Hoops? A
guy named Sam Amko. He is a senior writer for
hoopswire dot com. He's got seventy five thousand followers. Jersey

(46:50):
sales are evenly distributed between all thirty teams, So no
matter what team he goes to, every Kevin Durant Jersey,
every team will get a thirtieth. All right, I got
one more for you. The Phoenix Suns re portally have
no leverage in Kevin Durant trade talks and may have
to produce their high ranking price ber Dwayne Rankin. Dwayne
Rankin is an award winning covering Phoenix Suns for Arizona's

(47:12):
local newspaper. He's got thirty followers. Okay, shams follows him,
all right? Now, did he tweet that or somebody aggregated it?
He tweeted that himself. Well it sounds like he might
know something. Yeah, that makes sense. They haveving low leverage
to get rid of Kevin Durant because everybody knows they
want to want to give him away. The Rockets wires says.

(47:35):
The ringer says, the Rockets are the cleanest trade for
infit for Kevin Durant. Yeah, you are getting all this.
I told you I'm not making this stuff.

Speaker 3 (47:44):
I know.

Speaker 1 (47:47):
By the way, another report I don't know who I
credited tube, and I'm gonna go and tell you that.
Their report says the Rockets will not be moving out
for in Shangoon and r Men Thompson as part of
the Kevin Durant trade. I got news for it. I
could have told you that three months ago. Sham says
Kevin Durant has no desire to be in Minnesota. I
believe Shams Shams is as connected as it gainst Shams

(48:10):
lives for this. When Wojes retired and said I can't
do this anymore, Shams like, give me your phone. Minnesota
wants to give them a lot. I think, yeah, but man,
do you do that with no guarantees? So I was
watching TV last night and they were saying that if

(48:31):
Minnesota was to pull this steal off, you would give
then Anthony Edwards an entire year to convince Kevin Durant
to stick around long term. You would But I and
now Dame Lillard signed with the Bucks. Correct? Correct? Okay,
I'm trying to think of other players and teams that
got traded to where they didn't want to go and
then stayed. Kawhi Leonard did want to did not stay

(48:53):
in Toronto, Paul George didn't stay in Oklahoma City. He
signed with the Clippers, and then that whole that became
a whole thing. I'm trying to think of other like
big name players that were traded somewhere that stuck, stuck around,
stayed around, or even did for for like one year deal.
Basically where Kevin Durant is Paul George to l A. Yeah,

(49:15):
I'm sorry, I was. That's Okayarn before you talegate it?
Are you pantis at Christy is that company? That's why
he's saying that. By the way, Jay just sent me
an email. So if you have a Garra and Julie
Bowen from Modern Family is a one two punch, m m,

(49:35):
we have him around two. Do we need to have
a bracket contest on this? Throw eight of them and
then see all right, go back to your question. That
is a good one. All right, we're gonna oh, Julie
Bowen spectacular. So if you have a gar spectacular too,

(49:55):
I think I still go friends, but that's closer. Nope,
I'm sorry, okay, because I think Julie Bowen is very sexy.
She is over Prime Aniston, over Prime Courtney Cox. Sophia
Vagar is Prime over Jennifer Aniston. I don't think so.

(50:17):
I think you're having recency bias. Recent that show's been
gone five years, are you talking about I'm one of
those two friends. But Jennifer Hansen I see around all
the time. Yeah, she's not in her prime. She's I
think she's still in her prime. You see her in
Wedding Crashers, Horrible Bosses, in that, in that, in that

(50:38):
coach she was wearing the doctor. Yeah, forty year old
Lebron still got game, but it ain't prime Lebron. Okay,
that's that's fair. Is she a Lebron James of Hotness? Yes,
or both of them. There's a lot of the there's
a lot of the modern miracles of science. Yes, they've
all aged all right. Okay, So point being is, if

(51:02):
I'm Minnesota, if Kevin Durant does not want to come
play for me for a couple of years after this,
I don't do that. Yeah, you'd have to swing. You'd
be swinging for the fence. What are the choice you have, though,
if you're in Minnesota, to stay the course? You went
to the Western Finals again, stay what course, Anthony Edwards.
I mean, that's not a bad course to follow. I'm
just throwing that out there. Yeah, but you're not winning

(51:23):
the arms race right now? With the Thunder and the
and the Nuggets. I don't. I mean, even though you
made the finals and the Nuggets didn't. Okay, if that's
the case, and then why aren't the Rockets pulling this
off too? If you're saying the same thing about That's
why I said yesterday Yesterday was the first day I
said I lean towards trading for Durant ok And like
I said, it's not because of what's happening in Houston,
it's what's happening in the West because Oklahoma City looks
like they're not going to slow down. They're not slowing down.

(51:46):
They're not a bunch of aged veterans. They're not gathering
up for one great run. They're all JANEA. Williams in
his prime, the SGA in his prime. The home Gran
if you ever gained weight, will be in his prime.
They got a couple of years of that. The second
Apron will get the They can't pay everybody, keep paying everybody,
so they will have issue. Sign makes a lot of money,
but arts stime makes a lot of money. Chet Holgan's
gonna eventually need an extension. I did. They already paid

(52:08):
SGA and they're gonna go. They're going to pay. They're
gonna pay SGA eight in Jalen William thirty year players,
so he's got one more year before he gets exactly
they can't pay everyone that team, will They can rip
off two out of three championships or something like that.
But then I think they'll get broken up because the
way that the CBA is all right, eleven fifteen, it
is the Matt Thomas Show. Would ross We've got gut
feelings coming up at the bottom of the hoar. If

(52:29):
you'd like to join us before then, you may do so.
It's seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven ninety. We
take you till two o'clock today. We have the News
at noon, We've got to Joe a spot at twelve thirty,
and the NFL rewant at one twenty. So a busy
show today. We want you to be a part of
it all the way till two o'clock. Right here on
Sports Talk seven ninety seven to three, LSU leading UCLA.

(52:53):
They're resuming a game they got rained out at the
College World Series. I got a question for you now.
Last year my wife and my middle son went to
the National Championship three game series. Why they do that
because A and was playing and what happened? They lost
to three in Tennessee. Dang, that's that's heartbreaking. Okay, it

(53:14):
was very expensive flying to Omaha on the last second.
Now we had relatives that lived in Omaha, so we
didn't have to run a career or uh, they didn't
have to uh a hotel. But let's say you're a
fan of l s U. LSU fans travel well everywhere
they got no nose. I don't know how these Louisiana

(53:35):
is getting all his money, so you're spending all in
joe shots. These are all elimination games. How do you
afford to go? Okay, you find out. Let's say, let's say,
uh Texas goes to the College World Series, which they've
been more than any other program in history, and you're like,
I want to go root for my team. Yes, First

(53:57):
of all, who can take two weeks off to go
do that? I don't know with minimal notice? Okay, that's
number one, number two. Flying from Austin or Houston or
Dallas to Omaha short notice probably going to be about
seven hundred bucks per person, and you're not traveling by yourself.
What's the drive? Probably twelve to fifteen hours. Okay, let's

(54:21):
just go with flights. Let's go with flights. Then you're
going to rent a car on short notice. You're going
to go stay in a hotel or in Airbnb on
short notice. And by the way, Airbnb's and Omaha probably
aren't cheap because they know they're holding out all these
rooms to the very last second. And you're gonna eat
and drink on short notice, and you don't even know

(54:44):
how long you're going to be there, because this is
double elimination tournament. I have it's under the category, but
I just don't get it. It's how do you do it?

Speaker 3 (54:54):
Is?

Speaker 1 (54:54):
I guess the question? Well, you have a lot of money,
and you're established in your life and your career. So
there are thousands of LSU fans there. Okay, okay, all
the members of their team had their moms and dads
and girlfriends are there. Okay, you might have a few
rich alums, but ultimately, how many people can just spur
the moment if you get at one summer vacation plan

(55:17):
on going to Omaha, Nebraska, and that's a great city.
But again, everything I just described to you is not cheap.
I think if you've got to do it right and
you want to go see your team, it's got to
cost you ten thousand bucks. I just put in some
airbnbs for this weekend in Omaha. Yes, most of them

(55:40):
are minimum three hundred and fifty to four hundred a night.
Are you serious?

Speaker 7 (55:45):
Now?

Speaker 1 (55:45):
This is one you can stay with Carl and is
upstairs room for one eighty six a night. Carl's also
a predator. Now he's got five stars, four point eight
three stars. Okay, excreemes like a sweet dude. Carl is
a lurker now, he mean Karl might have a he's
gonna watch you get undressed. Yeah, he might have a
nanny camp installed in the ceiling. Now I'm watching this
game right now. There's a bunch of empty seats out there.

(56:06):
But this is a game that was also rescheduled, so
maybe people. But I'm just telling you, how do you
do it? Now? Final four is an Uber special experience
and it's also short notice to ross. But at least
you're not if you're going to see your team play
in game one and all the way to the championship,
you could be in Omaha for like eleven days. Yeah,

(56:27):
how the hell does anybody do that? I don't. I
would say minimal amount of people do that. Probably you
either make it for the first couple of games or
you try to wait and see if they make the
Championship series, which is where we which we did. When
when I bought the tickets again, I paid a heavy
price for them because we bought them at the last
second because we didn't know we were Kim and Peyton
were not gonna go to Omaha to go watch ye

(56:49):
some Rando team play. It was gonna be A and
em or bust. I just I'm fascinated by who that
group of people are and how much. I mean, think
about if you're UCLA, find from La to Omaha. I
mean all these places. You can't drive La to Omaha
if you can't caution two days each direction. Yeah, it

(57:09):
went from last year. It went from June fourteenth to
June twenty fourth. That's ten days. It's a day of
travel getting there in a day back. Oh lordy, no,
thank you. I mean, if you had that kind of money, Like,
I have never seen my Cougars playing a College World Series.
In fact, most of the people that listen to the show.
Have never seen the Cougar's playing the College World Series.
What if you're a retiree, you got a RV, you

(57:30):
just pull up. But I mean retirees are gonna spend
ten grand to watch a college baseball termer for a week. Well,
if you're pulling up in your RV, it's gonna you
can drive up there, so no flight. Okay, so you
got somewhere to stay. The RV park's probably gonna be
like thirty forty bucks a night, depending how many gray
hairs in the crowd. That's what I want to know, Okay,
I just that's the life I'm trying to leave. You
must be a die hard LSU Tiger fan if you

(57:51):
are spending that kind of money to go to Omaha,
Nebraska for ten freaking days in theory, Yeah, you got
some cash. And when the University of Houston Cougars make
it to the College World Series, you won't see me
for two weeks. I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna knock
it out. Haven't they not made it since, like LBJ
was in office. I believe Bill Orell played for that

(58:12):
College World Series team in the sixties. Don't hold me
to that, but it's been a while, a long while
listening to pet Sounds on the way this new album.
Hey hey, you all hear about this band from London.
Liverpool are called the Beatles. They're really good. Let's listen
to on the Way to Omaha. Man I miss Truman.

(58:35):
All right, all right, it's on our TV. That's why
we're just branding up. Yes we're because Gordy came in
here and put LSU baseball on in their winning I
don't need them getting a champions Why does he need
Why do we need to live through his life experience? Ridiculous?
I need Texas Baseball to get back on track just
so I don't have to hear from Gordon. I need
Houston Baseball to get on a track of some sort.

(58:57):
Let's see. Yeah, well, last College World Series appearents and
nineteen sixty seven? Oh god, why we getting sound effects
from you all? What was all sime? We Wasshtern, Kentucky?
One of the College World Series was the lost some
SFA one of the College World Series? What was the
same SFA? One of the NCAA Tournament We beat Duke
and then yeah, yeah, Matt cheating and classes and stuff

(59:20):
and Belzman. But you know, yeah, what was that SFA
went over due? That's gotta be what ten years ago
nineteen shirt?

Speaker 4 (59:28):
Okay, it made the whole program. Like, that's why SFA
now is broke, the entire campus. Why is it broke
because the president in bezzled money and took it all
for the new stadium after they beat Duke, and they
not that in the budget and so they had to
fire him and then it was all no politics down
there in Ncadosa right now.

Speaker 1 (59:46):
Wow, So you're saying that SF Nacadoches is a corup university,
is what you're trying to tell.

Speaker 4 (59:52):
Yeah, yeah, it's pretty bad over there. I wouldn't recommend
if you're going to play basketball everything else. Yeah, it's pretty.

Speaker 1 (59:58):
Nice saying bad football, not corrupt basketball corrup By the way,
you know, Sfane Houston play each other in football. Open
up the year we're gonna make We're gonna make a
lunch bet on this. Okay, I got fifty dollars right
now to do what to show up? You'll win that money.
That's called a paycheck game for the bed guys America.
You're listening, Okay, try to get to give you points

(01:00:22):
no points, no points. I'm just saying, okay, we can
go over under. What do you want to do over under?
He's clinically ill. It's okay, that's fine. All right, let's
make some sports predictions. You ready for that?

Speaker 2 (01:00:32):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (01:00:33):
Seven, one, three, okay. By way, we're creating a second
bracket for our our one two combination. I have three
more here that I put in here, okay, and we're
trying to get to the final four. Ginger marry In
on our list, Lavernon, Shirley on our list, Shirley just cauz.
Oh my gosh, you're cruel. Somebody wants to put Marsha

(01:00:55):
and jam Brady. That feels a little creepy. I mean
when you're a kid. Oh he Tatiani Elie is older
than me and I was always a fan of hers.
All right, we're gonna put We're gonna put Ashley and
Hillary in although the Hill, the Ashley's just yeah, I
get it. Don't do it. It's a weed two bit.
Don't do it. Somebody's gonna get Twitter. Somebody's gonna criticize you,

(01:01:17):
that's true. Somebody's gonna flag the FBI on you, all right.
Eleven twenty eight. If you have any gut feelings, that's
where you make your sports prediction. Seven one three, two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven nine.

Speaker 8 (01:01:28):
Listen up, so appealing, Tommy, Yo, they got a good
deal it.

Speaker 1 (01:01:35):
This is their gut feeling. On The Matt Thomas Show
eleven thirty three on Sports Talk Sevnati. For the next
half hour, we take your sports predictions. Anything in the
world of sports you want to predict is fair game.
If you make your sports prediction and it hits, you
call us back and your brain on it. We'll give
you the opportunity. If you miss, we don't judge you

(01:01:55):
unless it's a ridiculous one, then we'll make fun of you.
But general speaking, most of the the gut feeling predictions
we make on the show are not ridiculous. So Ross,
let's see how we did last week, and we do
that after we tell you the phone numbers again at
seven one three, two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety we're looking
for your predictions on gut feelings. All right, Matt, Let's

(01:02:18):
look at last week where I mean you had a
number of them. You were all over the place. First
of all, you said Damian Pierce, Texans running back will
be traded or released by week one of the twenty
twenty five correct, I mean I all in on that.
You also said Kevin Durant will be traded before the
NBA Draft. Feel good about that as well, with the

(01:02:41):
favor being the San Antonio Spurs. You had Christian Walker's
Walker's average over two point fifteen by the end of
the week. No, it was at the end of the
week or end of the road trip or something like that,
wasn't it. I mean, I then I give myselfs a week.
I rode down. Yeah it was a week. I don't
let me, let me look. Don't don't ruin it for me. Okay,

(01:03:02):
go ahead and look it up, man, look it up
right now. Christian Walker went one for four yesterday. Uh huh.
His batting average now stands at wait for it, wait
for it. Can I tell you? Oh, I'm getting close
to twelve. He was over to twelve when he had
that three hit game. He hit two. He got up
to two eighteen.

Speaker 3 (01:03:23):
Seven.

Speaker 1 (01:03:23):
But the ending number is what I need.

Speaker 2 (01:03:25):
I know.

Speaker 1 (01:03:25):
That's a loss from all right. You had Nick Chubb
under five hundred rushing yards yep. And the Texans with
no thousand yard rushers overall, feel confident about that. Okay,
I said, back to back, two back quality starts for
Lance mccullor's junior a loss, five innings of four run
ball and then he got hurt. I didn't jink some

(01:03:48):
all right, Me talking on a radio show didn't have
him messing up in the in the weight room unless
they were playing the show. Jonathan, he gets rather defensive,
doesn't He went. He went for the he went for
the what what he say in gambling you down? He
doubled down on it, and I told him not to look.
I try to believe in my guys. All right. By

(01:04:10):
the way, I'm sorry for one of your guy, Hey,
the one of your non guys, Ryan Gusto, Don's job.
Two straight starts. Yeah, the man his flowers. What do
you mean? Yeah, he's been good. Your hates ever said, No,
I'm not. You have no Gusto for You're such a liar.
I can check the tapes, check him, pull it up,
let's go. I said he wasn't getting done when he wasn't.

(01:04:32):
And know what I'm saying, he's doing a lot better
appreciate Ryan Gusto, fastball comand looking good like that. That
force seemers working for him. All right. Anyways, I also
said Nick Chubb does not finish this season as a
Houston Texan. M that's way more bolder than my prediction. Uh.
Let's see, Jonathan, I wrote down one for him. He

(01:04:56):
had the Astros winning six in a row. I went
five for six. Yeah, they had a five game winning streak. Wow,
that was close, just because they lost to the I know,
I'm still proud of you though. He had them sweeping
the Twins and the White Sox by the You need
to once again apologize to the city Houston because you

(01:05:17):
have you are been team Indiana Pacher this entire thing.
They're one more loss from being done. Okay. In Tyree's caliburn,
is he hurt or I think it's over. He's got
a calf injury. I think it's over, and yeah it's over.
Really disappointed because I yeah, he's got a hurt calf. Folks,
Why is Oklahoma City only four and a half point
favorites on the road against the Pacers. They've been five

(01:05:38):
and a half.

Speaker 4 (01:05:38):
And six and a half and not only hot Burds
and everybody on the pacer team seems like they rush
every play they do, and it just it seems like
the spotlight.

Speaker 1 (01:05:45):
They try to rush because that's what Rick Carli wants
them to do, because if you let Oklahoma City thunder
getting their half court set, you're done.

Speaker 2 (01:05:55):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:05:55):
I still have a little I have a little faith
you know how I become a big fan of in
that paper Nemhard's defense. Is he just tenacious or what
he's good? I like Andrew Nimhart or is it Nieman
the one that's pump claims on which one? Which one?
I get those two guys, mixture of them. They're both
doing good right now, Okay, but one of them is
really making life hard for Sgah Smith. Okay, I got you,

(01:06:20):
all right. We're ready for this week's uh yeah, go ahead,
all right? Astros have six games left on this West
Coast road trip. They're gonna win five of them. Boom,
you heard me. I didn't set her. Five out of
six left on the road trip? Yeah, wow, five and
one the rest of the way. By the way, Uh, Matt,
let the folks know who's holding. Oh okay, let me

(01:06:42):
tell you what's going on right now? We have one caller.
It's our buddy, Brad. He's not my buddy, he's he's
everyone's he's not my friend. And the rule is with Brad,
we take his call only if there's nobody else on
the line. If literally anybody else calls with a sports prediction,
please with a gut feeling, we take you in front

(01:07:02):
of him. He's like, we love Bridy. He's like the
basic economy of our callers. We'll let you on the plane.
We'll let you have one carry on and you'll get
on the plane very last. Right, He's a basic economy caller.
The rest of you your economy plus. So if you
want to call in with your sports predictions, remember you
call in, you get in before Brad. You don't call in.

(01:07:22):
Brad comes on the show in a very short period
of time. Seven one three, two, one two five seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven ninety
Astros go five and one. Kevin Durant gets traded by Friday.
There's my second prediction by Friday. Friday. Wow, let's go
by Friday. Close the show two o'clock and better not

(01:07:43):
happen during the ATM that's all I'm saying. No, that
wouldn't be a Friday news dump. I think it's gonna
happen closer to the draft. You're saying it's gonna take
a few more days. I will say draft day. Close
to the draft, I say Friday, two o'clock, it's done. Okay,
by two o'clock. Okay, I'm writing that down because I

(01:08:06):
don't think Houston, San Antonio, Minnesota, Miami are gonna wiggle.
If it's gonna be somebody, it's gonna be Toronto or
the LA Clippers are gonna want to jump in there.
But remember, Kevin Durand does not have those teams on
his list of teams he'd like to sun an extension to.

Speaker 2 (01:08:20):
Now.

Speaker 1 (01:08:21):
I could obviously change, but right now, the only three teams,
according to Shamshernia, that Kevin is willing to sign an
extension with are the Spurs, the Heat, and the Rockets. Okay, yep,
I've got a gut feeling, please, and it's non sports.
Southwest Airlines, Matt, what did they do recently? They assigned

(01:08:41):
starting as signing seats and no more free checkbags. That
is correct. I don't know when, but they will go
back it will be like New Coke, where they came
up with a new formula, everyone hated it, they lost business,
and they went back and they were as popular as ever.

(01:09:01):
Southwest Airlines is gonna I'm not saying it's intentional. I'm
saying it's gonna happen. They're gonna see how much business
they're losing from all of these people, and they're gonna
go back to two free check bags and the old
I don't know if they're gonna go back to the
old system. They're going back to two free check bags,
bags fly free bags, fly free's coming back. What about

(01:09:22):
the assigned seats. I can't speak to that because I
don't think that's costing them as much as in your
gut bags thing in your gut it's the bags. Yes,
what do you think? I find it to be a
very valid By the way, it could also be an
incredible marketing plug. It might be a smart marketing ploy,

(01:09:42):
or it just could be accident, which we could argue
about New Coke. People say that they did it on purpose.
Others say it was just the wrong process but the
right result. But what if they all sudden see this
big money boost because of these bags they could. I
think it's gonna cost in business.

Speaker 3 (01:10:00):
Though.

Speaker 1 (01:10:01):
Here's the thing. I'm not flying them with you. If
you get a credit card, you get the bags, right, yes,
And if you are a frequent flyer with up while,
you get the bags. So what precise of population is
not in one of those two categories? Ye, that could
be wrong. I don't think it's a terrible thought on
your part. Okay, it's a good feeling. You know what
I feel I can do. I need to give you
a non sports one, daw Okay, But Jonathan, what do
you have in your gut feelings? Before I start thinking

(01:10:22):
of a non sports gut feeling? I have just real quick,
so I'll put it in there. We're going to games
sead of in the finals. I'm gonna stay on it,
and Pacers in seven, Pacers in seven. I'm just gonna
stay on it. If I get it. Oh, it's gonna
be I mean, yeah, it's good feeling, just low risk,
high reward Pacers in seven. Look, you've gotten this far.
They won more an extra game than I thought they

(01:10:43):
were gonna win. I've been rooting since eight fol twelve,
so I gotta keep going. You are consistent about that.
I give you credit for that. All right, I got
another one now. This is also foreshadowing of the NFL
we want coming up at Uh, We're gonna have this
story for you coming up at one twenty. Jaguars general
manage James Gladstone says Travis Hunter has the capacity to
play all games, all game, both ways. No way ain't happening.

(01:11:09):
I don't care what James Gladstone is saying. It's not
gonna happen. Travis Hunter is not playing the majority of
the game both ways. I don't know how we want
to slice this how many snaps he's playing now. He
might do it for a game or two or something
like that, but I bet you my good feeling is
he doesn't even do it for one game where he's
playing the majority of snaps on both sides, and he

(01:11:30):
certainly is not gonna do it for a season. I'm
put my name on that one. Wow, well, first season,
when would would twelve games concert a season? Sure over twelve.
So he plays the majority of snaps both both ways
for twelve games, ain't no way, ain't no way. There's
no way he's either a gonna get hurt or be

(01:11:52):
either gonna figure out this is very stupid idea. Okay,
but didn't he say he's gonna quit if he can't
do it? Yeah, he said, that's what I say. Everybody's talking.
And then you get up to the NFL and you
realize it's a little bit different. You're not going up
against Iowa State in the middle of September. It's the NFL. Okay,
all right, I gotta think of a non sports when

(01:12:12):
I still have not thought of one. Okay, but I'm
gonna think about it. Brian is up next, because we
take Brian over. Brian, we take Frankly, anybody over Brad please?
Can guys, can you get in over? There's only one
person in front of her. He's so bad. You don't know.
Could you come up with some great predictions this week?
You never know? Okay? Seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven,

(01:12:33):
And I remember you're only one call away from hearing
from Brad. It's up to Brian and then Brad or
you could jump to the top of the list. Seven
one three two one two five seven ninety All right.
Things I never thought we would have in this office.
Gordy and Ross are arguing about the Director's Cup. I'm

(01:12:53):
not arguing with anybody. I didn't bring it up. I
didn't say anything about it. But now that you did, Yes,
congratulations to the Texas Longhorns, the greatest athletic department in
the land, winning the Director's Cup now four of the
last five years. Thrilled congratulations from all of us.

Speaker 2 (01:13:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:13:15):
Like I said, I didn't bring it up. No, but
I was asking Gordy what is topic and the Austin
sports radio station today and he said, probably Director's Cup championships.
How long can you talk about that? That's what I'm saying.
If you are going to if you youngsters want to
get into sports radio, go to a city with pro teams,
because my god, do you want to do? I mean,

(01:13:38):
what is right now Shreport's Sports Radio doing right now
Shreveport Saints LSU. But that's still a four hour drive
from Baton Rouge just saying, thank god, we've got the
local pro teams. We got the Rockets maybe making a

(01:14:01):
trade for Kevin Durant, we got the Texans getting ready
to win. How many games roster this year over a
hundred nine and a half. What do you say? Ten? Ten?
And seven eleven. What do we we? Are we going
for a auction?

Speaker 9 (01:14:15):
Here?

Speaker 1 (01:14:15):
Who says?

Speaker 2 (01:14:16):
Twelve?

Speaker 1 (01:14:16):
Says twelve? Who's game?

Speaker 2 (01:14:18):
Now?

Speaker 1 (01:14:18):
Twelve? Who's it? Text? I'm gonna to the charges and
rams and two I'm going with eleven? Okay. And then
we got the Astros, who are still in first place
by four and a half games because the Mariners lost
to the Red Sox last night two to nothing. Seven
one three two one two five seven ninting. Now we
have two people in front of Brad. So the longer

(01:14:39):
you guys keep calling in with your calls on gut feelings,
the last chance you got to hear from Brad over
the course of the next nine minutes of this radio
show seven one three two one two five seven ninting
is how you reach the show again? That seven one
three two one two five seven nine zero and my
call screen is down, so ross you will pick up

(01:15:02):
Brian online too. Oh, I got it working. Now let's
say to Brian on seven on you Hi, Brian, Brian,
the floor is yours.

Speaker 5 (01:15:11):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:15:11):
I don't hear anything that wasn't my fault?

Speaker 6 (01:15:13):
Was it?

Speaker 1 (01:15:13):
I don't know briany there. We'll put Brian on hold.

Speaker 3 (01:15:16):
It fixed.

Speaker 1 (01:15:16):
Let's try Rick in Sugarland. Rick, what are yours? What's
in your gut this week? A couple of things. First,
you know, the Director's Cup. Man, I'm super excited.

Speaker 7 (01:15:26):
But the thing they didn't mention is the short Horns
do have the best mascot burgers of all times.

Speaker 1 (01:15:32):
So there's kudos of that. But but the feeling today is,
you know, and and it's kind of a brad blocker
is uh? Are the Papers gonna win tonight the Stanley Cup?
Well you tell us, Well, since.

Speaker 3 (01:15:47):
You guys are super big.

Speaker 1 (01:15:49):
Hockey fan, we are?

Speaker 2 (01:15:50):
We are?

Speaker 1 (01:15:51):
They call us puckheads exactly, Yeah, they call us puckheads.
All right, we'll let you a little bit of a
bad connection there.

Speaker 3 (01:15:59):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:15:59):
I like Edmonton to win the game tonight. I get
the Panthers. Okay, you want to put a Hunsky on it?
No either, No, No, I was sure I trick you.
I just looked up who the favorite was and I
picked them. It's really Panthers minus one fifty total six
and a half game. Is game is in Sunrise? I
don't know. Isn't it where they're gonna Rena? Where they play?

(01:16:21):
Where they play? It's not in Miami. Yeah, I think
it's north of Fort Lauderdale. It's like the San Jose
Sharks are really bury his team, but they San Jose
is forty five minute get a team in Houston. We're trying.
That's fine. We don't need it. You tapped out, you
would like it. I don't need more downtown traffic. Who
says it'd be downtown. That's true, Just throwing that out there.

(01:16:43):
Let's go to a second chance Brian on seven ninety. Brian,
you there, you got me this path, Yes, sir, go ahead.

Speaker 6 (01:16:51):
Beautiful day at each town.

Speaker 1 (01:16:52):
I'll tell y'all don't today amazing. Thank you for asking.

Speaker 5 (01:16:56):
I'm wanted a little bit of help here.

Speaker 1 (01:16:58):
I know last week said the Strows we're gonna go
seven and three in their next ten. Wearing my head
on that. You are winning on that.

Speaker 6 (01:17:07):
Okay, gotta work.

Speaker 9 (01:17:09):
I'm happy.

Speaker 1 (01:17:09):
I think we can finish out. Okay, now, let go
city race.

Speaker 5 (01:17:14):
I got seeing man gets breaking money by fourteen seconds.

Speaker 1 (01:17:18):
Wow o second place car this weekend.

Speaker 10 (01:17:22):
The tricky Giant o Buckingo Pennsylvania.

Speaker 5 (01:17:24):
I do not have a beg for that because it's
all kinds of crazy, but.

Speaker 1 (01:17:29):
Uh, I just want to call it that and let
you know about the NASCAR. Yes, sir, you're like our
You're like our NASCAR beat reporter. Now the tray's gone,
we'll send you to the NASCAR in the moon. Do
you have you does texta owner Speedway have NASCAR vins?
I'm assuming you do, right, I think so? Yes? I

(01:17:52):
have no interest in going. Uh Now, I mean if
somebody said, hey, we have a luxury box with food
and drink and you can go sit in there and
watch it, I'll go. I'm not trying to catch a
lugnut to the dome. I don't want to be I
don't think in the uxture box we can have that. No,
I'm good, I would do it. Oh, I know you'd
go to the luxury box. Well, yeah, I don't want
to stay with the regular folks. No, I don't want
to tire. He never been in the lawn in the pavilion,
and I have been up in the upper deck of

(01:18:13):
Dyking No lawn, wo, no upper decket I can or else?
Have I not done? Crazy? Yeah? I got I think
those things are usually. Yeah, you're grifting free tickets normally
I get it. Oh, is that right? Yeah? How much
did you spend in the last ticket you went to
an Astros game, it'd be zero dollars. My mother gave
it to me. Shout up, Mama, what's up? So you're
a grifter too? Not a grifter? I accept gifts, okay,

(01:18:37):
Mike and Beaumont the tomato tomato? Mike, what is in
your gut? I've got a great gut feeling that that
dumb ass brand won't get on the radio. Well, he's
got time, He's got plenty of time. Actually, keep talking
to Mike, Mike, give us some gut feelings. Make something up.

(01:18:59):
Oh you sa la fan there, she's nice, the two
of them. Actually, you see ESPN stared at them for
like five seconds and the cameramen know what they're doing. Yeah,
they're not stupid, all right. Last, but not least, I'd
say very least, Brad, what's your gut this week?

Speaker 7 (01:19:16):
First of all, at Conna Plus. I don't remember any
of those Connell plus is going to Las Vegas? Do
you met at Some stayed here in their mom's basements,
like the losers.

Speaker 1 (01:19:29):
They are ross That little man you had on last week.

Speaker 7 (01:19:32):
That was the best, the best. That little kid blows
most of the callers that call this.

Speaker 1 (01:19:39):
Show, including probably even me, but yeah, a lot better
than most of the callers. Even Jay knew that Brendan
McCurry wasn't gonna be a star.

Speaker 5 (01:19:49):
Well, I have predicted a lot.

Speaker 1 (01:19:51):
When you predict the light, you lose, true, and you
win more.

Speaker 7 (01:19:54):
I guarantee you at them all up. I've got more
wins than losses. Now, my my next prediction is Framber
is gonna get two hundred million plus and it's not
gonna be from the Astros. Another thing, I'm gonna say
that the astros Na Lance went on the shelf. I
think they're gonna get a picture, but it's not gonna
be a very good one. They should call up that

(01:20:16):
you Lola that Ulysses got. I don't know what his name, Ulyssesola,
the one, the one that got seven strikeouts at.

Speaker 1 (01:20:26):
The Appomatics courthouse. He threw a shutout. I heard.

Speaker 2 (01:20:30):
You.

Speaker 1 (01:20:31):
We gotta in all, honestly, we gotta figure out how
to pronoun his name because you probably gona up here
for Miguel Uola. Miguel l is a y like Villa.
Let's go. Let's go back to Spanish from eighth grade.
Pal let's I didn't take Spanish in eighth grade. That's true.
You know you were hanging out with I was.

Speaker 3 (01:20:52):
I was.

Speaker 1 (01:20:53):
I was collecting freshman year in. Yeah, we get what's
up Collette? Okay? All right? Are we don is that it?
Hold on? I forgot? I didn't write them all down
fromber gets two hundred million dollars. I normally write down
Brad's takes because he tries to brag on his terrible
ones and make up ones he did. What was the
other one's bread?

Speaker 6 (01:21:13):
There's tons of me?

Speaker 1 (01:21:14):
You got them all written down? No, I only got one.
I'm talking about the ones from today Frommer's make two
hunred million dollars, not from the Astros two hundred plus. Okay,
that's it a bad picture.

Speaker 7 (01:21:28):
Yeah, he's not gonna be something special because they got
nothing to give.

Speaker 1 (01:21:31):
Okay, all right, thank you, I'll give you one more.

Speaker 7 (01:21:35):
The Rockets are not getting Kevin Durant and they're not
getting the guy from Milwaukee because that that'll strip their
whole team.

Speaker 1 (01:21:43):
It's not worth it.

Speaker 7 (01:21:44):
To too many people. You're gonna have to give up.

Speaker 1 (01:21:46):
You'll lose all your draft picks. It's not worth it.

Speaker 7 (01:21:49):
They'll go after a better, more down to earth, somebody
that's decent, a star, not a superstar, that that could
help them.

Speaker 1 (01:21:58):
Okay, thank you, Brad. It is I don't think they'll
get Durant or Giannis either, but that's my favorite. He says,
a star, but not a superstar. There's a difference between
those last one Joe and Alvin. Joe, what's in your gut?

Speaker 10 (01:22:12):
Well, I got a gut feeling that's the opposite of
what the last guy just said. The Rockets are going
to trade the Dame Farm and all the cows and
all the chickens to get Kevin Durant because Tilman Fertita
wants to put butts and seats for the next two years.

Speaker 6 (01:22:27):
That's all I got.

Speaker 1 (01:22:28):
Thank you, all right, thanks Joe, appreciate it. By the way,
another the for you tab is doing me disservice. For
you tab says that the Rockets would package a deal
that would involve Jalen Green and or Jabari Smith and
or Dylan Brooks to satisfy the financial dealings with one
Kevin Durant. Believe that or not. I honestly, Ross I

(01:22:55):
like this stuff. I don't know who I know who
to believe I know who don't believe when you have
four thousand followers or you are jazz fan for life,
I don't believe your sources. But if you're shamp Sharanie,
I believe you. If you're a Sam Amic, I believe you. Yes,
if you're a Brian Winhorse, I believe you. But that's
about it. Eleven fifty nine the News at noon, and

(01:23:16):
one is the loneliest number. Do you understand that? Uh,
mister Allen, one is the loneliest number, the loneliest number.
One you'll hear? Why next? Just one run Ross in Sacramento,
the Ocremento A's take the series opener. Not enough to

(01:23:41):
get the victory. Out hit the A's. It's funny when
they only score one run. They usually typically out hit
their opponents. I did a postgame show about ten days ago.
I think the other team had four hits and won
the game. Baseball's funny that way. It is funny that way.
I mean they weren't coming through with runners in the
scoring position. Oh for three on the evening, this is

(01:24:03):
all part of the news at noon twelve oh seven
Sports Talk seven Nini. We have the Tim Brando of
Sports News in Houston, it's ross. We thank you all.
Take that as a compliment. I think Matthew here'll lose.
At noon Sports Talk seven hinety we do start with
your Houston Astros losing in a Sacramento Ryan Gusto five

(01:24:26):
innings of three hit, one run ball, also had eight strikeouts.
He is rounding in a form the last couple of times,
just as I predicted he would. And the bullpen pretty good,
Brian Obre you unfortunately giving up the two run Jack there.
The only run the home run from Jose al Tuove,
and we talked about this earlier on the show. Matt
Jose al Tuove gets booed in say New York or

(01:24:51):
elsewhere again, but getting booed in Sacramento, California. Yeah, Anaheim,
I just don't, I mean, I ca, I just get
in Miami, everywhere everywhere he goes, including Sacramento, California, where
they don't even care about their own baseball team. Correct
or eighty five hundred people there yesterday And this happened

(01:25:12):
yesterday after our show ended. Matt Lance mccullors junior on
the il with a right foot spring for pictures. It
is the fifteen day IL, so he will be missing time,
but Joe Spotta says he is hopeful it will be
the minimum amount of time missed for Lance mccullors junior.
And we will talk to Joe Spotta coming up in
twenty two minutes for his weekly Tuesday visit here on

(01:25:33):
Sports Talk seven ninety. That is very true, all right.
Elsewhere in the news at noon, Matt, Thehoma City Thunder
take a commanding three to two lead over the Indiana Pacers.
Game number six is on Thursday, one hundred and twenty
to one toh nine win for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Tyrese Halliburton did not make a field goal in the game.

(01:25:56):
He played thirty four minutes, but he was OH for six,
only four points, seven rebound, six assists. He is dealing
with a CAF issue and it seems like the Pacers
have to be done at this point. Yeah, I had
the Thunder winning in five. Give them credit. Giving the
Pacers credit to win that game won there. The series

(01:26:18):
has been if you if you took the whole pie,
eighty percent owned by the Thunder, maybe seventy five percent.
But it's if the Thunder lose this series, it will
be a very, very big surprise. In fact, remember we
talked about it just the other day about how the
odds were overwhelmingly in favor of Oklahoma City and they'd

(01:26:40):
have to spend when hundred Is that what it was?
It was over seven seven hundred minus seven hundred ish
something crazy like which I wish we had betting apps.
Well we do. That was gonna say the lair state
legal ones. Yeah, we're trying. Thunder would have made me
some cash, but that's okay. Anyways, Yeah, Tyrese Haliburton went
to the locker room early in the game, before returning

(01:27:02):
in the second quarter with his calf wrapped. He did
finish the game. Haliburton's saying quote, it's the Finals. I've
worked my whole life to be here, and I want
to be out here to compete, to help my teammates
any way that I can. If I can walk, then
I want to play. But I ask you, Matt, is
he helping or hurting the team if he's out there

(01:27:22):
for thirty four minutes and not making a field goal?
He they had to very much watch his minutes. I
think he has to give it a go because he
is the leader of that basketball team. But if he
ain't got it. He ain't got it, So I would
say thirty four minutes playing the way that he did
yesterday did not help. I think they'll be very cautious.
He will inject shoot, whatever it takes, ice, thrombosis, whatever

(01:27:44):
the case may be, deep massage, to get on the
floor and try his best. But I think Oklahoma City
wins it on the Indiana home floor on Thursday, all right.
Elsewhere in baseball, this is not going to shock you.
The Red Sox leadership defending their decision to trade Rafael Devers,
CEO Sam Kennedy and Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow defending

(01:28:08):
the decision, Breslo saying, this is in no way signifying
a waving of a white flag. We are committed as
we were six month ago, to putting a winning team
on the field, competing for the division and making a
deep posts season run. Do you think Red Sox fan
believe a word they're saying? Probably not. Uh Man, one

(01:28:29):
of the best power hitters in sports, is now three
thousand miles away. CEO Sam Kennedy. We had certain expectations
that went with that contract, and we came to the
conclusion that we did not have full alignment. We moved on.
There's that word alignment, Matt, who said that a lot
was that Easter Be and O'Brien alignment was a Was

(01:28:53):
it a Bill O'Brien or was it a Rick Smith thing? No,
that was definitely a part of it. I thought it
was Bill O'Brien in Easter Be. Nick Cassia might even
have said, ooh, Casara's very much an alignment. Gls like
something Belichick would say as well. But alignment was the
word of the day at this press conference. Apparently the
word was used by CEO Kennedy nine times in the

(01:29:14):
press conference and by the gm Breslo five times. You
know when you when someone starts keeping track of what
you say, they don't believe you. Yes, uh, pretty funny,
all right. One more baseball note. Matt sho Hoo tany
pitching last night against the San Diego Padres for the
first time since twenty twenty three. He did hit one

(01:29:35):
hundred miles per hour on the gun, but in one
inning he gave up one run, no strikeouts, and then
he was just the d H for the rest of
the way. Yeah, my guess is he's going to be
an opener. I would how about this?

Speaker 3 (01:29:48):
Do you?

Speaker 1 (01:29:48):
Would you if you made a bet? Does Sho hal
Tony throw more than five innings in a game this year?
I would say no. I will say yes, Okay, you
want to make a bet? U? Oh, we could, let's
do a ball circle. I spared you a bet on
the colors. You said he wasn't gonna throw over ninety pin. Oh,
I'm glad I didn't make that bet. Sure that was
a safe. That was a big win for you. One

(01:30:11):
other notemask stepping on your newscast. Yeah, some late breaking news.
Congratulations to Houston Texans mascot Toro. All right, he will
be inducted in the Mascot Hall of Fame Class of
twenty twenty five. M great and one more note, Matt,
Congratulations to the greatest athletic department in the land four

(01:30:33):
out of the last five years. Now, this is not
according to me. This is according to the NACDA Director's Cup,
the Texas Longhorns and Chris Decante, the athletic director over
there on the forty Acres, winning for the fourth time
out of five years. Congratulations to the on launch. Would
you go give up the Director's Cup for a football

(01:30:55):
national championship. I'd give up ten Directors Cups for one
football national championship, probably probably on Infinity. Just put the
old Infinity sign of there and you got a shot. Right,
you beat Ohio State, you're gonna have a nice run.
Well we'll see.

Speaker 6 (01:31:10):
Now.

Speaker 1 (01:31:10):
Will you be grumping in the final four? Will you
be grumping if they lose to Ohouse? That's not a
big deal. All you gotta do is make the top twelve. Now,
that's true. You can you can lose that game. I
actually get your asking and be just fine. It's still
a big game. Not her name about that. It's losing
to Northern Illinois and we never won. It hurt them.
That is correct, and after news, thank you very much
for all that good stuff. No thoughts on Toro winning
the Mascot Hall of Fame entrance. He's in the Hall

(01:31:33):
of Fame. Yeah, I didn't know what continue driving around
in an ATV with fireworks going on. What's the best
thing Toro's ever done? Like this? Has Toro jumped from
the top of the stadium down? I think he has.
I think he does repel from the top of the stadium.
I'll give him kudos on that. Yeah, I don't know

(01:31:53):
the answer to that question. Okay, I mean honestly, and
again I'm biased, but Clutch crushes it at bog place.
Clutch in orbit are one two? What are you want
to put him in? Met Clutch one orbit two? And
then tooral three C Shasta maybe Shasta about seventy six.
That's not nice. Don't don't don't disrespect Shasta Sasha the

(01:32:17):
delightful combination. That's a good one two punch there. Shasta
is behind the public works mascot. Oh my god. Twelve
fifteen on Sports Talk seven, and we will update our
two pole our two pole questions today. We are looking
for ultimate one two brackets in UH for females and
comedy shows. And we've had one group of four and
we said we had need to get another group because

(01:32:39):
we just thought of another set of fine entrance in
that Joe A Spota with this at the bottom of
the hour. It's Sports Talk seven. You at twelve fifteen
here on seven ninety all right, twelve twenty one. We
got Joe A. Spotta coming up at about ten minutes
from now. So the comparisons that I've seen for Luiski
or may the best one I would have to say

(01:33:01):
is a cross between Travis Kelcey and Evan Gaddis you
mean Jason Kelsey Jason, Oh yeah, because Travis is a
little leaner. He's got long, whispy hair. Now, yeah, so
Jason Kelcey and Evan Gaddis comps on those guys. Sure

(01:33:23):
never going to beat you with a speed. What do
he mean? He was tracking down that that flyball caught
on the left field yesterday was a thing of beauty.
He jumped down like a like a dolphin jumping out
of the water, like catching a fish too. He's impressive,
like a great white shark getting a seal. Oh now,

(01:33:43):
wait a minute, that's a little deep. Why that that hurts?
That hurts. It's a nature matt. Yeah, but I like.
I like the fish eating the dolphin from the dolphin.
The dolphin eat a fish, and the and the shark's
eating the seal. It's the same thing. Okay, all right, anyways, anyways,
all right, so he rolled around for a while. It
was good to see each perdies back in the lineup. Now, DHS,

(01:34:05):
that's okay, we'll take it. So we'll ask about how
long that's going to be. Where he's going to DHS
compared to third base getting back on his position, and
the Astros yesterday announced a bunch of different injuries on
their on their Prescotten notes before the game yesterday, nobody
sounded like they were right around the corner. And perhaps

(01:34:27):
of all the information that was presented to us, the
thing that this uponted me most was that Jordan is
still not swinging as bad yet. Yeah, do we want
to do a quick run through some of these? Please
do Arraghetty flat ground throwing report to the Astros facility

(01:34:47):
in Florida later this week. All right, I'll give you
my vocal emotions on that. Okay, okay, Well, if he's
not even throwing and he's got to have a full
spring training, my gos Luis Garcia through twenty five pitches
in a side session, that's good. JP Frantz through live
BP on Friday, twenty pitches. That's further ahead than the

(01:35:09):
side sessions. Do you think either one of them pitches
in twenty twenty five if you ever met a no, Well,
JP France sounds like he's close. You could use the arms.
I mean, I know we have to. Honestly, how much
better is JP Franz than Ryan Gusta or Colton Gordon

(01:35:30):
or well right now, the answer is significantly worse. But
he had a great first season that he fell off
at the end of yep, and then he had five
starts last year was not good, right, and then he
was hurt. I think of him kind of in that
same vein six seventh arm to me, and let's see

(01:35:53):
Javier forty pitches in a side session, twenty pitch bullpen.
That's good. The last step will be live hitter and
then rehab for him. So honestly, it sounds like he
might be getting kind of close. That sounds good. Javier
coming back. What a shot in the arm that would be.
When did he miss? When did he go out? It
was around this time last year. I think it was
June of twenty fourth. I think it's been twelve months.

(01:36:14):
So I'm gonna go ahead and give you a small
gut feeling, even though we're about an hour away from
or from where we did it last Yes, June seventh
of last year. If I'm going off of those three reports,
Javier to me, sounds like he's the closest one. So
it's been twelve months for him and they always have
been saying twelve to sixteen months. The one guy that

(01:36:36):
should be back, probably faster than the other two would
probably in my mind, would be Luis Garcia. Yeah, he's
been since June of twenty three. It's been two years
for him. Yeah, Okay, continue on. Jordan Alvarez and Dezenzo
are in Houston. They're not on the road trip. They
have not progressed to hitting post all start breaking for
both of them. So you're looking at another month. My god,
at least I'm gonna be optimistic and say before before

(01:37:00):
all starts, I'm they call me mister realistic, and I'm
gonna go after all start. I'm gonna be optimistic, all right, Okay.
Chas McCormick is in Houston as well. He is hitting
and throwing, and then Pedro Leon, I don't know how much.
Don't care about that. He's hitting and throwing. Okay, but
you know what, I applaud the astros for giving us
updates transparency. Yeah, and updates didn't hurt anybody. Now, we

(01:37:22):
don't have to spend half of our interview with Joe
spotted talking about it. We just gave you guys the updates. Yeah,
and I think the thing about Paris is going to
figure out whether where he's going to play, how much
DH he's going to play, and how much. We can't
ask that, all right, So that at least we got
some news from the Astros and we appreciate that. It's
all we're looking for and we got it now. On
need of the bats get going. And I feel like

(01:37:46):
we've said that since what day four the season it's
around then, Remember I told you about a month ago
I said this is who they are, doesn't mean they
can't win, and they are winning with these bats. They've
gotten better. I think they're third and team now average
of course and OPS two different things. But right as
of a couple of days ago, now they'd only got
one run yesterday, but there were like third and baseball

(01:38:06):
team average, but like fourteenth in OPS. So we need
a little more slug along base guys. And you know
it's crazy, though, is all the runs that are scoring
after the seventh inning too. That's true with two outs
for a team that is challenged offensively, their clutch ability
to score runs is incredible. Doing what they do after

(01:38:26):
the seventh Yeah, fifteenth in team ops the pack, Yeah, yeah,
it shows you middle of the pack with good pitching.
Wie your division, Christian Walker turning around you enter Diaz
as well. Jordun gets back creeping in the top ten.
Keep the good pitching and you're competing for an a
opennate and we'll have all the games in seven ninety,
all the playoff games. Love it, hopefully a deep playoff run.

(01:38:49):
Joe A Spotted joins us next here on Sports Talk
sent ninety. He will be with you after Ross tells
you about We are very happy to be joined by
the manager of the the Houston Astros, Joe's spota. Last night,
his squad dropped three to one to the whatever they're
calling the A's these days. A skip A good afternoon.

(01:39:10):
First of all, it was a great note from your
PR department. You were there for the very first game
in West Sacramento. Do you remember that game vividly or not.

Speaker 2 (01:39:18):
I do remember parts of the day, don't remember much
of the game itself, but I remember teammates. Remember, you know,
walking into a beautiful, brand new ballpark, the excitement, the
energy in the stadium. I remember that aspect of that
day very well.

Speaker 1 (01:39:38):
Do you have any good like thirty second Joe spotta
minor league stories. I mean you you were well traveled
during there. I mean, if you have to protect innocent
people's names, I certainly respect that. But give me, give
me us something that pokes into the mind and soul
and body of Joe's spot as a minor leaguer man.

Speaker 3 (01:39:55):
You know, I.

Speaker 2 (01:39:57):
Did spend you know, ten years in a minor league's
great experiences, travel a lot, you know, ran into some
really good people, teammates, friends of mine.

Speaker 3 (01:40:07):
Who are still close to close to.

Speaker 2 (01:40:10):
Me, you know, Matt, I think about the the hours
on the bus to grind, the you know, the the
fight that you had to have, the desire to get
to the big league.

Speaker 3 (01:40:20):
The it was. It was not easy.

Speaker 2 (01:40:23):
I never got to play in the big leagues, as
you know obviously, uh as a minor league player, I
worked really hard to try to get there.

Speaker 3 (01:40:30):
Never never got this.

Speaker 2 (01:40:31):
I just think about the journey and and how my
my minor league career just kind of shape out to
be who I am today. You know, I learn a lot.
It put myself in minor league player's shoes to understand
what they go through. So when I conversation with my players,
young players, I remember what they went through. So that's
kind of what I took out of my minor league career.

Speaker 1 (01:40:50):
Well, all right, next Tuesday, I'm I'm at dyk In Park.
I'm gonna ask you and off the record story then
that's just you can't stay on there. I get it.
It'll be good. Hey hey, uh, I thought last night
when al Tuove hit that blast, it was gonna be
a fun night. And uh, the pitching for Oakland stat
Oakland for whatever they're called, stepped up. It was another
low scoring game. Are you just that's just kind of

(01:41:13):
the trend right now. Nothing's going to be easy. But
you've had a lot of success as of late. What's
it like going through these feel like for the most part,
not using Friday as an example, but just generally speaking,
these games that are coming down to one run lasted
back kind of efforts.

Speaker 2 (01:41:26):
Uh, you know, For for me, I look at the
positive match. Like you know, when you when you play
low scoring games, there's a lot of things that you do.
You have to do really well to be able to
stay in the game and have a chance to win
it at the end.

Speaker 3 (01:41:39):
Like we've been doing.

Speaker 2 (01:41:41):
One thing that this team does very well. We're good
coming from behind right like we we we we played
hard till the end. So you know, we are doing
a really good job pitching and we're playing some.

Speaker 3 (01:41:51):
Really really good defense. If you do those two.

Speaker 2 (01:41:53):
Things, you're going to find yourself in every ball game
they hit, you know, the hitting kind of goes and
goes throughout throughout season.

Speaker 3 (01:42:00):
It happens.

Speaker 2 (01:42:01):
You know, we ran.

Speaker 3 (01:42:02):
Into some some good arms. Yesterday we were.

Speaker 2 (01:42:04):
Able to score on the runs, but we were we
were closed. We were one heat away from opening the
game up and winning that ball game. But for me, uh,
it's I'm going to look at the bright side of things, man.
You know, Gusto asking him the night before a you
we need you to pitch tomorrow, he said, Joe, let's go.

Speaker 1 (01:42:22):
I'm ready to go.

Speaker 2 (01:42:23):
He goes out, He points out five eight in five innings.
Those are positive man, our defense. You know, we we're
grinding through some of bats and eventually, you know we're
going to open things up. But I really really like
the way we are playing right now.

Speaker 1 (01:42:36):
On both sides of the ball Skip, you gotch partis back.
You DHD him yesterday? How much DH how much their
base do you want to see or do you feel
like you can put getting back out there at some
point in the field this weekend.

Speaker 2 (01:42:47):
Yeah, so, so he'll play their base today, and we
are you know, I'm monitoring really close. I want to
be careful on how much volume we give them right
up bat. We were very lucky for that injury, you know,
not to be something that will keep him out of
the lineup for a long period of time, and I

(01:43:09):
want to make sure it stays that way. But he
is playing third base today and will continue to keep
an eye on him and the rest of the boys
since we are in a pretty long stretch of games here.

Speaker 1 (01:43:19):
Joe spotted with us here on Sports Talk seven. Christian
Walker had that big three hit game a few games ago.
Since then has slowed down a bit. What are your
conversations like been with him? Just take us from maybe
the start of the season to the struggles and to
where he is now, especially mentally.

Speaker 3 (01:43:36):
You know what, mentally, he's super mentally tough.

Speaker 2 (01:43:39):
I think the mindset of Christian Walker is one of
someone that understands that, you know, the journey of how
long the season is and the ups and downs that
come with with with playing in an atmosphere where you
expected to win and he understands that. I like the

(01:44:00):
fact that he is open about how he feels. He's
open about like sometimes he finds himself trying to do
a little bit too much, and you know he is
working every single day through mechanically trying to.

Speaker 3 (01:44:14):
Get himself right. And we see moments where we.

Speaker 2 (01:44:18):
Okay, he is fully out of this, and then there's
a game or two where he hits some balls where
he's unlucky, and you see his frustration at times, like, man,
I just need to get a couple of knocks and
and get going here. But he's added to his it's
it's good we get him an off day two days ago.

Speaker 3 (01:44:37):
He came out, Yes, that's from the bat. Well got
a knock. They pitched him really tough, which I expect
him to.

Speaker 2 (01:44:44):
He's you know, hitting behind uh hitting in the middle
of a lineup. But you know, at the end of
the day, I think this, I think he's going to
have a solid season for us. It's a lot of
baseball left and I expect him to get going here
and we need him to get going.

Speaker 3 (01:44:55):
He's a big, huge part of our of our lineup.

Speaker 1 (01:44:58):
Would Luis Garmany be your horse in a team? High
jumping competition.

Speaker 3 (01:45:05):
Well, a great play.

Speaker 2 (01:45:06):
You know, in the dugout we started we started talking
to Peret, we started joking with parties.

Speaker 3 (01:45:11):
But he's like, you think he could have made that play?

Speaker 2 (01:45:13):
Uh? And and he's like, Joe, of course I could
make that play.

Speaker 9 (01:45:17):
I don't know, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:45:19):
Yeah, I'll tell you that was Joe.

Speaker 1 (01:45:22):
He went five feet to left field. That's way too
far for him to go out the left field, isn't it.

Speaker 3 (01:45:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:45:29):
But he's like, he's like, you know, I thought that
he could make that play.

Speaker 3 (01:45:33):
But you know, one thing about Yomi is something.

Speaker 2 (01:45:36):
He's done his entire career is he can really defend
everywhere you put him on in the infield, he can
really make some place. He take prizes and he takes
fighting his defense. And he made those two plays bare
hand slow rollers, which you know kept us from you know,
innings to get out of control.

Speaker 3 (01:45:54):
Air for Gusto.

Speaker 2 (01:45:55):
So I really feel comfortable when he's playing defense, and
he'll give you some calling up bats when he's in there.

Speaker 1 (01:46:03):
So what is the doctor said for Lance to do
during this downtime? Obviously, you know, getting a day extra
tour is good for rest, but two weeks maybe a
little bit different. So what what can he do with
his arm and his forearm while is obviously nursing the toe.

Speaker 3 (01:46:19):
You know, you know what, and I think he can
continue to throw.

Speaker 2 (01:46:21):
You know, this is something that it's not going to
pull them back from continue to do his throwing program
or anything like that.

Speaker 3 (01:46:29):
You know, he is getting some treatment done.

Speaker 2 (01:46:31):
For his foot, So hopefully we could get him, you know,
continue to play his flat round, play catch, and once
the foot starts feeling feeling better, we get him on
the mound and get him to uh throw aside. But
I don't expect this to be longer than than the
two weeks. So hopefully we get some good news here

(01:46:51):
in the next couple of days and we get him
back on the mount.

Speaker 1 (01:46:55):
Do you ever call the Dodgers anybody in the organization
and they say, man, we got a lot of injuries
on our starting pitch, and you say, hold my beer.
I mean you these two baseball teams have been beset
by and you're powering through it. That says there's depth
in this organization maybe people the outsiders don't know about.
You've also got a bunch of guys that feels like
to me, Joe, that are making the most of the
opportunities right now.

Speaker 2 (01:47:16):
Yes, yes, you know, Matt and I I've said this before,
how proud.

Speaker 3 (01:47:20):
I am of this group.

Speaker 2 (01:47:23):
We we do an incredible job developing players in this organization,
you know, especially on the pitching side. You know, I
always feel like when we sit down and we try
to push this piece together, this pulcle together, and when
this picture goes down, who's the next guy up? And
there's always someone who's who we feel strongly about. Okay,

(01:47:47):
this guy can come up because he could he could
do these things very well. Our pitching department does a
really good job, you know, putting it plan together for
every individual when they.

Speaker 3 (01:47:56):
Get up here. This is what we do. Well, let's let's.

Speaker 2 (01:47:59):
Just get by this this storm here, because once we
get our guys fully healthy, we are going to be fine.

Speaker 3 (01:48:05):
We've done this for years. You know. It really sucks
that the injuries are piling up.

Speaker 2 (01:48:12):
You mentioned the Dodgers, you mentioned us, but this is
happening throughout the industry and we have to find ways
to weather the storm.

Speaker 3 (01:48:20):
It's it's it's really hard.

Speaker 2 (01:48:22):
I do get credit to our voice that we keep
our eyes on the prize. Man, we know that this
will pass. We know that this is part of the season.
And you know, this is a group that knows how
to play. This is a championship team that know how
to play championship baseball when you need it the most,
which is right now June, July, August.

Speaker 3 (01:48:40):
Man, you grind.

Speaker 2 (01:48:41):
This is a grind, grinding right now, and we are
grinding through this big picture.

Speaker 1 (01:48:46):
If I gave you five if I gave your pictures
five more seconds on the clock, big difference, little difference,
no difference at all.

Speaker 2 (01:48:56):
There will be there's some difference. You know, there's there's
a lot you can do in the five seconds. You
know when it comes to either you know, gathering your
thoughts or you know, a breather, or you know that
there's much you can do with with five seconds. You know,
there's this mental game of baseball. You can really put

(01:49:18):
yourself back and but we don't have those five seconds,
right You have to just do the best you can
with the time that you get on the mound.

Speaker 3 (01:49:27):
And it's important.

Speaker 2 (01:49:29):
To keep your your momentum and your and your focus
and it you know, but you know, five seconds, if
you can use it well to your advantage. I'm sure
that we can. I think I'm sure that you could
do it, especially.

Speaker 3 (01:49:42):
After the picture.

Speaker 1 (01:49:42):
Yeah, I don't know if it's ever going to happen,
but I think because there's there's so many arm ailments Joe,
not only with your squad but around baseball, that at
least needs to be a conversation to say, what can
we do to at least slow these things down? Because
our arm bloms are always a part of it.

Speaker 2 (01:49:57):
Yeah, And I think eventually, you know, we we are
looking and then the league is looking at ways to
how can we you know, do better job of protecting
the pictures. You know, I'm always thinking about, you know,
why not you know, giving us one more picture throughout
a certain time of the season. You know, maybe it
could be April May when we when teams are going

(01:50:19):
through fifteen seventeen game stretch, maybe providing doing those notion
stretch from games, like maybe one extra arms where we
can actually you know, carry someone else that.

Speaker 3 (01:50:30):
We could expand the rotation.

Speaker 2 (01:50:32):
It'd be easier for your bullpen instead of having a
seven men bullpen. And you know there's ways that that
and that we can potentially help our pitching. But you know,
it's it's a lot of it's a lot of conversations
that need to happen, and eventually we do what's bets
for for the sport.

Speaker 1 (01:50:53):
Last question, you saw two pretty seismic homers, actually three
pretty good home runs yesterday, two unfortunately for the A
and one for yourselves. How does the ball carry there
generally speaking? And is that a different atmosphere playing in
Sacramentos compared to playing in Oakland, where last time I
looked at the temperature is about sixty five degrees at
first pitch.

Speaker 3 (01:51:13):
Yeah, No, it was. Yeah, it was a beautiful, beautiful.

Speaker 2 (01:51:15):
Nine in West Sacramento. You know, I think all three
home runs would have been home runs in any any ballpark.
You know, the ball, the ball carries, ball carries well here.
I think the energy at the ballpark was awesome. It
was a really nice crowd, you know, temperature, like you mentioned.

Speaker 3 (01:51:34):
Was was gorgeous.

Speaker 2 (01:51:37):
You know everybody, you know, I do miss the college
and personally, you know, I the history of the ballpark,
and but I'll tell you what.

Speaker 3 (01:51:45):
The River catch Board Park, it's it's really nice.

Speaker 2 (01:51:48):
I played there twenty years twenty five years ago and
continues to be one of the best ballparks in the
Monto leagues in America.

Speaker 1 (01:51:55):
Great missus always friend, Thank you very much the time.
We'll see you back in town. Have a safe trip
and nigget some more wins on Left Coast Man. Thank you,
you got it. That's Joe A spot of Astro's manager
with us here on Sports Talk seven ninety twelve forty
five is our time. I got a quick question for
your Ross. Is it okay to play solitaire? Why are
at work? We'll discuss it next twelve forty five Sports

(01:52:17):
Talk seven ninety twelve fifty Sports Talk seven ninety It
is a Matt Thomas show with Ross. Future presidential nominee
Stephen A. Smith is getting a lot of grief for
video that, as most things Steven A. Smith finds, gets,

(01:52:37):
turns viral, whether he says things that are erroneous or
crazy analysis or just general attention seeking. Hey, he was
getting scolded I think by Jay Williams for saying Giannis
isn't underachiever if he doesn't get another champions ranked. I
mean he got roasted by Jay. Yeah, pretty heavy, heavy handed.

(01:53:01):
So the other night, not last night, but before Game
four of the NBA Finals, somebody was shooting video of
Stephen A. Smith plank solitaire in the middle of the
NBA Finals. In the middle of the NBA Finals. Huh. Now,
let's diagnose this from a variety of angles. Okay, there

(01:53:24):
are some people that just need so much. Was it
not sensory overload, It's they just stimulation over stimulated. They
need stimulation of all sorts. Okay, Yes, for instance, watching
a movie and talking on the phone at the same time,
watching a TV show and checking your Facebook. Yes, listening

(01:53:46):
to music and typing in your computer. I mean, there's
a lot of things that people can do. Stephen A
could be one of those types of people that is,
he's watching a game, just can't sit and watch the game.
The phone has become a crack source for a lot
of us, including myself. Yeah, quick dopamine hits. Yeah, So

(01:54:08):
can you not necessarily justify but understand that he's watching
an NBA game. He's been to thousands of them in
his life, He'll be going to thousands of them more
before his career is done, and that an NBA Finals
game is strange. That may sound maybe been there, done that,

(01:54:28):
and I need something to stimulate while I'm watching this game.
I'm gonna play a game of Solitaire now during games
what I'm calling a game now, it's different than him
watching it. Yeah, you can't be on your phone. I
cannot be on my phone right but during commercial breaks, yes,
I will check my phone for text and I always

(01:54:50):
text you during games and or tweets. I am guilty.
I will. I will do that even on this show
a lot, like all of us do. Yeah, I'll text
you check out section one oh eight, row twelve, something
like that, and I'll say, oh, your best friend Greg
is there. Okay, that's nice to hear ross and bodies
there and enjoying the game. Point being is this, I'd
love to be able to say he's the worst eman

(01:55:11):
being alive because he's got the best job in the
world and he doesn't even care about it. But in today,
in twenty twenty five, but the way that we are
addicted to our phones, honestly, I think it's much do
about nothing. I disagree, and I will say this. I
don't call the games, but when I'm doing pre and
postgame shows, I'm there and I have my laptop open,

(01:55:32):
and I'll get distracted on Twitter or something, or I
have this tension span issues. I try to lock into
the game. I take game notes when I'm there at
the arena. Okay, but yeah, I'll lose focus for the occasionally.
How well, here comes the how I am not on
the national broadcast for ABC pregame, halftime and post game

(01:55:58):
where you're supposed to be given your analysis. If I
were doing that, you gotta put your phone away. I'm sorry.
If you are being counted on to give your analysis
of the game and you speak the loudest and in
this in these loud holier than now I know ball,
don't question me. I'm steven A. Smith tones you need

(01:56:20):
to be watching the game. And the worst part of
it is is that he's lying about when he pulled
the phone out to play his game. Yes, games were
going on. You could see in the upper right hand corner.
There were guys running up and down the court. There
was a yes, people, there were two different first thing
I saw was the screenshot and so he replied to
that and was like, oh, it was during a timeout,
and no, totally false. People found him. There's video they

(01:56:42):
show the court and then they zoom in on steven
A's phone. He's playing Solitaire during live game action. It's
not look. I mean, it's not a good look. He's
obviously embarrassed by it, but he doubled down the wrong
direction on it. Oh shocking that he he didn't admit
fall and say that he did anything wrong. Yeah, if

(01:57:02):
you're on pre post game and halftime, if you're getting halftime,
if you're saying, hey, steven A, what did you see
in halftime? What did the Indiana Pacers need to do?
And he's getting asked these questions, right, you can't be
on solitaire? Yeah, yeah, I mean I understand. I'm just
I guess is that I'm guilty of multitasking altfully as
I'm doing my job. As I'm again mine are mostly

(01:57:25):
not mostly all of them during commercial breaks. It's hard
to have a conversation with you as a host if
I'm sitting here a scroll on Twitter unless I'm trying
to find some information, Like you can tell when somebody
is on the phone and they're texting somebody. I do
it during the show. I'm sorry, Matt, would you cut
off your phone right now? I'm not on my phone
right now? Yeah, right now?

Speaker 4 (01:57:45):
My question is it kind of brings down the whole
industry of sports broadcasting as well.

Speaker 1 (01:57:50):
If he's the figurehead of all of this.

Speaker 4 (01:57:52):
Yeah, seen going on his phone, especially like people like
me coming out of broadcasting, right right, you're ruining for
all of our the people that we want.

Speaker 1 (01:58:00):
To pursue his career, right right. It's just a really bad. Look. Yeah, yeah,
you have lost. I'm going to assume, not knowing you
for very long, I'm guessing your thoughts about Steven A.
Smith have changed from the first time you ever saw
him on television to where they are right now. Would
it be fair to say, yeah, yes, it's look and
he he went on some rant about you know, yeah,
I gotta do this and this and this. I'm on

(01:58:21):
it Sparts Center, I'm on that, and I'm on my phones.
Do it and you can make twenty plus million dollars
to do it? Yes, So it's I mean, I'm sorry.
If you're on the NBA Finals coverage and you're on
NBA and this is who has the finals, and they're
making you the poster boy for all this, it's a
very simple request to ask you watch the game and

(01:58:42):
if you're gonna play solitaire, which again people do, check
their phones or breaks, make sure you're not in view
and you're doing it during commercial, during time. That's an
unfortunate part of this. It's a bit of an invasion
of privacy. But also, I mean he's getting exposed for
something that's true. It's unfortunate. Like I said, if somebody
was sitting behind me during a Rockets game, I'll be
off on Twitter or something for for a few seconds,
and I'll you imagine me trying to call a game

(01:59:05):
and check in texting during the game. People understand what
the hell's going on. No, Yeah, that's just different. That's
a different, Yeah for sure. All right, final hour of
The Matt Thomas Show with Ross will feature the Astros setback.
We will get to the NFL review from this week
one twenty. We'll have it for you, believe it or not.
Today is a Googleble I'm assuming it is. I mean
somewha Googleble College World Series related. All Right, there you got.

(01:59:27):
That's coming up in about one hour from now. I'm
proud of us here on the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
We have gone three hours or two minutes and not
mention Jason Alexander's name. He will be starting for the
Astros today. Not only do we not mention Jason Alexander.
We did not play the Seinfeld drops or anything that
involving the show Seinfeld, not the music, not the sound bites,

(01:59:49):
not significant shrinkage. Yeah, none of that. If I was
in the pool, or I think I have those one
of those, I used to have some old Seinfeld drops.
Bag in a day. Yeah, that's it. That's that? Is
that o G? Or is that ancient? Yeah? Both. It's
been off the air since nineteen ninety eight. That is crazy. Yes,

(02:00:11):
And I ran into Jerry Seinfeld and Phoenix and didn't
realize it was Jerry Seinfeld. Should I not have done that?
Here you go. We ended the draw to three hours
and three minutes, so that can have what he's gonna
say when he gives up a home run? Is that wrong?
Should I not have done that? I don't know why
I have these. We we've never been never been in

(02:00:33):
We've never been huge Seinfeld talkers in the show, because again,
the show has been gone a long time. But you
make a lot of Vernon Shirley references. I made one today.
Oh by the way, real quick on the poll question.
That was your poll. We talked earlier today about the
top one two female one two punch one two one

(02:00:54):
two punch Matt. Yeah, there's onely no thing more. We
end up saying on that on sitcoms now, a lot
of people are putting in dramas, and we brought up
drama's momentary. We kept it in sitcoms and if you
want to vote, it's on my Twitter account. Two different polls.

Speaker 3 (02:01:05):
Huh.

Speaker 1 (02:01:06):
Bracket number one, Rachel and Monica from Friends at forty
four percent, Chrissy and Janet from Three's Company at thirty
one percent, Kelly and Jesse from Save by the Bell
at eighteen percent, Caroline and Maximum two Broke Girls at
seven percent. That's in bracket number one, two broke girls
up to seven percent. Good for them, but the second
one we do things the same In the number two category, okay,

(02:01:28):
Glory and Claire from Modern Family forty four percent, Ginger
and Marian at thirty percent, Jennifer and Bailey from WKRP
and Cincinnati at fifteen percent. Work and Lavernon Shirley got
Lavernon Shirley's Got Dead eleven percent for Lavernon Shirley. Who knew,
see Matt, people love Lavernon Shirley. Shirley was such a

(02:01:56):
prude though, and Laverne wasn't the show. Yeah, it's just
a show, Matt, that's true. But I mean, I guess
are we talking about the characters of the actresses. The actresses,
I mean the big where I go try to get
with Shirley Fever and that she all she want to
do is hang out with Booboo kiddy. See, yeah, this
is all going sailing way over my head as I

(02:02:18):
figured it would. So if you want to vote on
those two brackets of the one two punch, let us
know at Sports Empty. On Twitter, by the way, I
think it's people droping Twitter still to this day, right,
I'll keep I mean, so I've lost probably five innurred
listener Twitter follows in the last probably six months. Oh,
I've gained about one hundred and fifty in the last

(02:02:38):
couple months. Maybe they maybe they dislike me in life
some more. I'm trying to post more, trying to build
a brand. If you could follow me now, especially on
my Instagram. My Instagram account is moving along very nicely,
by the way, follow me on ig at sports rv
and at Sports empty at but most importantly at Sports
rv MA that's already got way more than me. We
will have a IG party when I get to a thousand. Oh,

(02:02:58):
I'm at two thousand and six thirty one. Oh, I'll see.
This is ridiculous. I need to be posting more on there,
but I just I don't want to talk about it.
Let's move on, all right, Let's move on. Astros and
Jason Alexander pitched tonight, yes, game two of four game
series from not Sacramento, but West Sacramento, California. Okay, I've
I've never been to West Sacramento. I've only been to downtown,
so I don't know if it's good, bad or no.

(02:03:19):
I've never been to Sacramento in my life. You're not
missing any It's not on the bucket list. No, But
I mean the Astros and As could play a wall
card series. You never not even close to any I
thought it was close to Usemity. It's like four hours away.
That far, yeah, I know, the Towle's not far. Two
hours and San Fransco's like ninety minutes. I'm sorry, three
hours from Yosemite. Well, if you're here, maybe go. I

(02:03:42):
like to do combo trips if I'm going to National Park,
so maybe I'll do Sacramento in Yosemite. I don't even
know what to tell you what to do in Sacramento.
I'll look it up, Matt. I mean go to a
King's cameras fun. Yeah, I guess I can go like
and light the beam. I hate when they light the beam.
I went, we went there twice last year. They let
the beam both James, Yeah, that isn't fun, all right.

(02:04:03):
Fifteen best things to do Number one Sacramento Ghost Tour.
No thanks, Oh my god, that's terrible. Arts and Food
tour is terrible. You know that's that's every list you
could put in. The fifteen best things to do in
Lufkin in the same stuff as here we go, State
Railroad Museum, Oh Wolf. Number two Old Sacramento. That's a

(02:04:23):
lot of bars and restaurants. Youhao a museum? No, this
is yeah, I'm not going all right. So the Astros
still maintain a four and a half game lead, because
the Red Sox beat the Marineris last night in Seattle
by a score of two. Nothing, So the Astros, let's
go socks yep, when's Bregman coming back? I don't you know,

(02:04:44):
I've not seen an update honestly on him. I want
to say it was two months ago. A month ago?
Does that make sense something like that? I thought that
feels right. Oh, it's a right quad. I don't know
why I thought it was a hamstring. No, it was
a similar injury he had. I think a couple of
years back with the Astros. Will he missed a significant
ma amount of time? We'll say, you know, I wish something,
but the very best for him. Now, the biggest question

(02:05:07):
is gonna be Devers has now gone to the Giants. Yeah,
Bregman does opt out. You've lost two ridiculously heavy hitters
in that Boston Red Sox lineup in a short period
of time. I'm with you, though, I don't think he's
gonna I'm still staying with he's not. I think if
he comes back and he continues to hit like a

(02:05:28):
nine hundred ops, he he might opt out. But that's
what it's gonna take. I just don't think that's gonna happen. Yeah,
I think. I think. I think eighty million dollars in
the next two years, at least forty for the next
year is crazy. Not to say I'm coming back. Speaking
of money, I catch myself doing this when I listen

(02:05:50):
to other sports radio shows. And it could be a
national show, it could be a local show. When somebody
brings up a dollar amount and then I'll hear the
hosts saying, I think we've done in ourselves. That's really good.
That's good value. That's that's that's relatively cheap. Like for instance,
when Steven Adams signed over the weekend, he signed a
three year deal worth thirty nine million dollars thirteen million dollars,

(02:06:13):
and people were like, man, that's not bad. I mean,
Steven Adams was back great backup center. They went with
the Double Bigs for a while. He's one of the
best offensive rebounderies in the association. Plays good defense, good
good glue guy right, uh huh. And they're like, excuse me, man,
that's great value. Thirteen million dollars ross. It shakes me

(02:06:35):
to a core when I hear good value in thirteen
million dollars in the same sentence. Why because it's so
much money? Yeah, I work hard for my ex wag joky,
Yes you do well, Oh I do putting up with
you for twenty hours a week, I deserve very doubt
all I get. But that pales in comparison to the

(02:07:00):
thirteen million that's Steven Adams. Nice player. Yes, never gonna
be a double digit scorer, never gonna make an All
Star team, but has been able to carve out a
very nice career. Now he's on the other side of thirty,
but he's able to get thirty nine million dollars over
the next threes. You don't. You don't ever find yourself
just shaking yourself, going, wow, that is whack money. Not anymore.

(02:07:24):
I'll give you one today. When John Wall was making
forty million, that was pretty crazy. Like Isaiah Hartenstein, nice
NBA player, Uh huh, got overpaid to go be a
quasi starting center for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He's making
like twenty five million dollars a year. Yeah, but didn't.
What was the story that we got a couple of

(02:07:45):
years ago? It was how much Tillman Feteita bought the
Rockets for two million, two billion and now they're worth
like six. I don't know that to be aust something
like that. It's there. There is a good return so
far in a short period of time. Oh here we go.
Uh yeah, hold on, they bought two point two and
now it's five point seven, so not six, but still

(02:08:07):
more doubled in value. So, yeah, he bought the team
in two thy seventeen. Yeah, in eight years shoulders feet
for that. By the way, I think you should the
team because we talked about this when it made news.
Remember a few months ago or so, the team has
went up in three point five billion dollars with a B. So, yeah,

(02:08:35):
start making when the owners are doing what let's put
that in. Let's put that in in in perspective. Okay,
for so many people that tell us that football is
too violent, that baseball is too slow, that basketball is
not the way basketball was supposed to be played thirty
years ago. Yeah, every one of these sports are thriving

(02:08:57):
to unbelievable proportions. Mm hm. And you always ask me
this question. I never have an answer for you. It's like,
when is this going to stop? Yeah that when? Is
it not necessarily stop, but even just slow down, slow
down the growth.

Speaker 3 (02:09:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:09:14):
And that's why I think you are seeing to maintain
these values of these sports franchises. To maintain the values
of these leagues, because the league's salaries are based off
of revenue that come in exactly, they're having a direct correlation.
They're having to go more to the international dollar to
go get that international buck because maybe we are, as
US citizens tapped out. You know, I don't know if

(02:09:37):
if the Astros can sell a third base ticket fifteen
rows up for a game against the Mariners for one
hundred and eighty five dollars, there may be may be
the heart of a heart of a playoff RaSE, but
a regular may game, that ticket's probably going unsold. So
what do you do when it's one to eighty five
minutes unsold? You dynamic price, You drop the ticket price down.

(02:10:00):
Who can I try? I think it'd be fun to
go back to college and take a sports economic class
and just see where this money is coming from and
where's it gonna go. And my guess is a lot
of it's coming from the television deals. A lot of
the deals are coming from the international television advertising advertising
dollars and the marketing dollars. The fanatics, the Nikes, the

(02:10:21):
under armours. That's who's piggyback in these sports leagues. Every
square inch of dyk in Park is advertiss advertising, right,
So when we hear from fans, I don't watch, I
don't like, I don't listen. I don't believe. You're not
necessarily you're in the minority. But there's enough people that

(02:10:42):
do like do watch, do listen that make sports franchises
like the NFL, the Major League Baseball, and the NBA
worth double and triple their values. I yeah, I think
you're gonna see now. The NBA is already doing jersey sponsorships.
Baseball is doing it. I think it's coming to NFL
very soon. I would say if I had just got

(02:11:03):
feeling within the next five years. He's just also making
a boatload of money too, is wrestling. The WWE really
is making hundreds of millions. They made hundreds of millions
of dollars over a WrestleMania two day event in Las Vegas.
They're they're there for a week. They sold out, sold
out hotels, they sold out Allegiance Stadium seventy thousand seats twice.
Good for the huge television deal with Netflix and Peacock

(02:11:26):
and all that. I mean, USA NBC, and that's a
sport that it's not even a sport. Sports entertainment. Is
that what we're going with or you go acting? I mean,
it's fine sports entertainment. I like it too. I mean
there's physicalityteroids, stop, everybody's clean now, I mean not thirty

(02:11:48):
years ago, but now they're clean seven one three, two
one two five seven out. And again, I don't mean
to get all philosophical philosophical on you, but I but
I do think about that when I hear, yeah, oh man,
Steve Adams shure, thirteen million dollars a year. Huh, that's
great value. Now I don't think of the million dollars
a year, because do you think of the billions that

(02:12:11):
the NBA, that the NBA is making that the I'm
not trying to say over Pat, I'm just saying in
these I just networks. I just think about how successful
a league is. When one of its top two hundred
players can make thirteen million dollars a year, they're doing
pretty well, doing really well. Seven one three two one

(02:12:31):
two five seven ninety. You know the radio show in
the marketplace, we'll talk in NFL football, So we'll do
it here even when it's on the NFL season. We
present to you Ross's NFL Rewind from last Tuesday. Thank you, Matt.

(02:12:51):
Always happy to be on the NFL Rewind. With a
little bit a fifth of Beethoven. Let's start with some
news that could tie in here to Houston Texas. I'm
liking miss Missouri. Excuse Missouri Governor Mike Keo signing a
legislative package over the weekend approved by Missouri lawmakers earlier

(02:13:17):
in the week. It includes hundreds of millions of dollars
of financial aid intended to persuade the Kansas City Chiefs
and Royals to remain in the state, and that is
to refurbish those two stadiums or to build new ones.
It says, let's see, it's a I don't know, Matt,

(02:13:43):
there's just hundreds of millions of dollars because I think
it's unspecified aid because the Chiefs were contemplating a move
to Kansas City, Kansas, which is across the state line.
I don't know how. I've heard not great things about
that part of the area, and I know that they
want to get See there's plenty of real estate out

(02:14:05):
there where the where the Chiefs are, and it's not
in downtown. Maybe they want to I know the Royals
want to go downtown. Yeah, this just says the Chiefs
and a statement saying this is a significant step forward.
Royal is also saying a very important piece of our
decision making process. But there is no site specific commitment
for either. Okay, so still up in the air. I

(02:14:25):
know the Kansas City Royals want to want to go downtown.
Some people in Minnesota are opposing this Minnesota, I mean
sorry Missouri, Minnesota, Sorry State Rep. Bryant Wolf and saying
this bill is unconstitutional and fiscally reckless, it is morally wrong.

(02:14:48):
So there was a special session called last week and
then the legislative package was ratified last after the on Saturday,
after the special session on Wednesday. Yeah, my guess sews
with the Texans. And again I'm not an expert in this.
They're going to get a sweetheart land deal wherever they
want to go for their new facility if they decide

(02:15:09):
to leave the energy area m hm. Beyond that, I
don't want to kind of breaks they can get. Yeah,
last year, Jackson County voters defeated a sales tax extension
that was tax extension that would have helped them finance
an eight hundred dollars or excuse me, eighthred million renovation
of Arrowhead Stadium and two billion for a ballpark district

(02:15:30):
for the Royals in downtown Kansas City. Yeah, royals have
not hitting the fact they wanted they want their They
want a downtown ballpark with additional restaurants and clubs and
stuff like downtown Kansas City fun. I don't know about
how much more they can do in terms of adding
more restaurants and bars. But yeah, apparently this bill also
would help the Saint Louis Cardinals get a new stadium

(02:15:50):
if they wanted to undertake a project of at least
five hundred million dollars. Wow, so statewide thing, you know,
speaking of that, and I know it's not a NFL.
Are you a little surprise that Jim Crane has not
developed that area across the street on Texas, Yes, I am.
I thought it was going to become a couple of
bars restaurants. I mean it was. It was the what

(02:16:12):
the bart Union station, the bus home Plate Grill, which
we spent some good times there, a lot of good
times there. You want to go throw up in the
street right after the game getting hammered. Do you know
The reason why they didn't do this is because I
think that the Astros have said, we kind of know
our audience and they're going to go into the stadium
and they're gonna go right back out. I think, I mean,
you do it yeah, sits Houston is a city where

(02:16:34):
a lot of the people are driving in from Katie, Sugarland,
Woodlands wherever, right, and then they leave. Yeah, we are
just not a downtown hub. We're just we've tried. We're
a satellite city, correct. And that's why I think the
next stadium that gets built, whether it's a new arena
or a new stadium for the Texans, will not be

(02:16:55):
in downtown. You could be right. I think I think
we have given up on downtown for being anything more
than what it is. There are some pockets of fun downtown,
but not enough to sustain I mean, think about it.
If Jim Crane won't do it next to his ballpark,
which is full eighty five days a year between concerts
and his eighty one ball games, then wouldn't that be
a huge sign to you to say, maybe this isn't

(02:17:16):
where we need to be spending our money. So all right,
back to football, Yes, Matthew, let's move along, but we'll
keep it in the AFC South Jaguars GM James gladston't
saying Travis Hunter has the capacity to play all game
both ways, telling Andrew Siciliano of Sirius XM NFL radio quote.

(02:17:43):
He does not tire. He's got a spark, He's got
the energy, the capacity from a physical standpoint to be
able to do it is certainly there, certain game plans
might dictate usage differently. Putting a number on it on
this stage is prettymature. And I said this gut feelings
a couple hours ago, Matt, no chance, no way, nohow.

(02:18:07):
Travis Hunter plays a full season of playing both ways,
and my gut feeling is he didn't even do it
for a game. What if he does it four or
five plays on defense exactly? He can do that what
Devin Hester did when they had him at pet returner.
Then they put him at the cornerback, and they put
him in a wide receiver. Now he's gonna better than that.
I think he's a No, Devin Hester is a Hall

(02:18:27):
of Famer, but I still think they did the plans
would be bigger for Travis Hunter. Is I think Travis
Hunter has more going into him than Devin Hester had, right, right,
So it was kind of you were trying to find
somewhere for Devin Hester to contribute. I think Travis Hunter
is a great receiver and is a lockdown corner, but
it ain't. I just don't see it happening. Okay, I
would agree with you, but I think they'll try to

(02:18:49):
make it as much of a story as they can.
You can run a couple of plays for him, a package,
you run him a couple of screens, maybe a couple
of go routes or whatever. I don't even know if
he's gonna be mostly a corner, mostly a wide receiver
or whatever. But I will say two things. I don't
think it's gonna happen. Number one and number two, I
am not drafting him in any of my fantasy leagues.
People are talking about like wanting to take him in

(02:19:09):
the first round and stuff. Oh really rookie at all? No,
thank you. Well, not that I was in fantasy football anymore.
But if I wouldn't, I wouldn't have to take a rookie.
I get you a rookie, rookie running back Ashton genty,
first round. No chance when you're out of the league.
When he snaps his leg and half, you're gonna be
Anybody can snap their leg in half, and I'm predicting

(02:19:30):
one person is going to Okay, let me see where
they I'll find the old adp for Ashton Gent because
now you got me. Now you get me wondering. Let's
see you better go to the web MD for Ashton genty. Now, Dan,
you want to hold on rankings? You want draft? You
want half PPR? Sure, why not half PPR rankings? Ashton
Gent's number ten on this Fantasy pros list. Okay, that's

(02:19:56):
first round. You go to full PPR. He's thirteen. That
would be second round of corpse.

Speaker 2 (02:20:06):
Do it?

Speaker 1 (02:20:06):
Go ahead, stick ass, but put your foot in the ground.

Speaker 6 (02:20:10):
Man.

Speaker 1 (02:20:10):
When I say seven to fifty first rushing airs, you said,
and he said he will never rush for a thousand yards. Okay,
I might lose on that way. You're gonna lose out
that one. But if he snaps his leg in half, yeah,
if he rips both of his achilles, you're looking good.
Gotquot issues, chest muscle issues, say your sh I'm gonna
try to take him in every draft. You should so

(02:20:32):
we can talk about it. I hope you do. We
already got that. We got some of the some of
the weak players out of the league. With you and
Clinton quitting, this year's quitting too. Yeah, he's very busy. No,
he's not what he does. Hopefully I can convince him
to come back. Yeah, you need that easy, don't you
come back? No, I'm good, Jonathan. You want in the
Fantasy League. I'll never played you. Oh yeah, you definitely.

(02:20:53):
Oh this is a great league. You're gonna have a
great time. It's not very competitive money in it. Yeah,
oh yeah, definitely not smart kid, take my money. Man,
I gotta get Spencer Ragetty's contact info. We're low one
players now continue acause Monern mcmuvern was supposed to play.

(02:21:14):
Then that's your NFL rewe. I mean, I've got more stuff,
but it's time for a break. Okay, let's come back.
We'll talk to our friend Biscuit and a minute one
thirty one here on the Matt Thomas Show with Ross
it is all things about the College World Series. For
today's edition of Believe It or Not. If the story
is true that the Sons wanted Outprin Shingoon and or
a Men Thompson is part of the tray with Kevin Durant,

(02:21:37):
I would say, respectfully that Sons shuts your ball asses up. Now.
Those are the only two names I have heard that
have been don't you dare ask everybody else has been
all right, what are we getting in return? I would say,
don't you dare to ask? Unless said Giannis, I don't know.

(02:22:01):
There's part of me that thinks that Yannis may stay
in Milwaukee. I think he might, because again he did
say again he's got four kid though there, right, yeah,
but move they can move them. Yeah, they're not kids
to move all the time. They're not stuck in concrete there. Yeah,
you moved out of Sacramento or wherever? Where were you? La?

Speaker 3 (02:22:20):
La?

Speaker 1 (02:22:20):
Same thing? I mean, kid, you got.

Speaker 3 (02:22:24):
Right?

Speaker 1 (02:22:24):
And I speak about it? Oh, oh, pending litigation. Okay,
your lawyers, you're a lawyer, advised you not to speak
publicly about it. I help me to put out your
business like that. My apologies. Listen right now, you know
all right? Seven one three two one two five seven ninety.
If you'd like to commit, say hello, seven one three
two one two five seven biscuits. Whither us at won

(02:22:46):
thirty six biscuit? What's a good word?

Speaker 3 (02:22:49):
Coogar?

Speaker 6 (02:22:49):
Mad cougar?

Speaker 7 (02:22:50):
Matt?

Speaker 1 (02:22:50):
What's the word?

Speaker 6 (02:22:51):
My brother?

Speaker 1 (02:22:51):
You tell me?

Speaker 6 (02:22:53):
Hey, coach fritz Man, you've seen he got that uh that.

Speaker 9 (02:22:59):
Five star quarterback coming in in twenty six.

Speaker 1 (02:23:02):
Man, I cannot wait that'll be our national championship year.

Speaker 9 (02:23:06):
Yes, sir, I'm gonna be at the Colorado game this
year for sure. But a man, one of the things, Man,
you guys talked about it.

Speaker 6 (02:23:16):
Before I get to that, Matt, I.

Speaker 8 (02:23:17):
Want to write in man on this dynamic duo. Man
may know something about it, what you got. I know
you probably don't.

Speaker 6 (02:23:25):
But I like Pam and Gina from Martin.

Speaker 1 (02:23:27):
You know what. I brought up, Pam and Gina from
my and Ross said no, so take your shots at
him on the phone. I like, I will go Pam
over Gina. Oh, I like I take Gina for Pam. Hmm,
I like Gina. Now see in the in the show,
Pam was Martin always acts like she was ugly, but

(02:23:51):
I was a Pam fan. I was more team Gina.

Speaker 8 (02:23:53):
You ain't by yourself there, my brother, you think so
all right? No Pamas hey man, Pamela's uh yeah, I.

Speaker 1 (02:24:02):
Specific man, hey, biscuit, I specifically said somebody, yes, because
somebody brought it to you. You don't want I watched
the show and I like, Jesus is Pam over Gina.
I thought you were gonna go with Pam Pam And.

Speaker 3 (02:24:19):
Yeah, you could.

Speaker 9 (02:24:22):
Let me let me say this, man, read the Uh
you know what, Man, every time you talk to people,
they're like, man, I don't we don't want to vote
for these sports stadiums or this and that. And you
get to talking to them, Hey, man, do you go
to games? And you if you ask them a couple
of questions, you realize that they're not the ones going
to the game anyway.

Speaker 2 (02:24:39):
No.

Speaker 1 (02:24:40):
No, But the reality is this, twenty five years ago,
we as an American society were paying for stadiums left
and right. We're not doing it anymore.

Speaker 6 (02:24:50):
The I don't know about that, man, Kansas City put
up some money.

Speaker 1 (02:24:54):
Well, but that's that's the State of Missouri special session.
I don't know what's going on with that, but it
just sounds like to me that that's not a done deal.
They voted against it twice. I believe in the county
that they're at. So the state has stepped in. Yeah, okay,
so yeah, I would make this project. I will tell
you this right now. I don't think Harris County is

(02:25:14):
going to give the Texas a dime.

Speaker 9 (02:25:18):
I don't know, but I think if you're trying to
go to Fort Man, then you might be in trouble,
But I think no, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (02:25:24):
For it depends on what you want. If you're just
building a stadium, then that's a bad deal. But if
you're trying to build an entertainment area a lah the
Star in Dallas or the Texas Live, or you're trying
to do with the District in Atlanta, there are some
success stories. It's just going to be how much of

(02:25:44):
a particular county is going to want to invest in
that and how much the team is going to contribute. Now,
do I believe that Energy Stadium is getting along in
the tooth? Absolutely? Do I know? Do I think spending
all the money to renovate it could make a big difference.
I'm not That's not my business. I'm just saying that

(02:26:04):
I think spending a lot of money to build a
new stadium in that area would be a would be
a waste of money. I think renovation, if you're gonna
stay over there would be the would be the proper
way to go.

Speaker 6 (02:26:14):
I think going down to eighty eight that's where they're
gonna go.

Speaker 1 (02:26:17):
Mat You think Brazouria County have, yeah, well in between.

Speaker 6 (02:26:21):
Basouri and areas and you know, I think they're going
down that way.

Speaker 1 (02:26:24):
Well, again, I'm standing by my statement. I don't think
Harris County. I think it's gonna flatly reject the Texans
in any money they want to get from them. But
you know, I could be wrong. You could have a
change in government. You could have a change in mayor.
You could have a changing county judge, you could have
a change in the city council. You there's all sorts
of things. But I think right now as we speak,
this city is not willing to give we'll be willing

(02:26:45):
to give us the Texans a dime.

Speaker 9 (02:26:48):
Well, well we shall see. And getting to the Pacers, man,
uh coach had them right where he won them last night. Man,
they just start turned the ball over.

Speaker 3 (02:26:56):
Man, Matt.

Speaker 6 (02:26:57):
I went into the serious thinking, okay See was a
much better team. I no longer think that.

Speaker 1 (02:27:02):
I still think they are better. I don't think they're
significantly better. I have play of respect for Indiana, but
I still think that Klahoma City was better. If Oklahoma
City and Indiana played one hundred times, I think Oklahoma
City would win seventy five times at least.

Speaker 9 (02:27:14):
Well, I say this, man, one through ten, I think
Indiana's better now.

Speaker 6 (02:27:18):
One through five. Okay, so he got the advantage.

Speaker 1 (02:27:20):
But I'm telling you, man, but one, but they're one
through five is significantly better than the Pacers one through five.

Speaker 9 (02:27:26):
It just is well, it ain't show it in the games. Man,
they've been right there.

Speaker 1 (02:27:30):
Oh yeah, but I got a roll, thank you. I
got appreciate the phone call. But I don't know shake Gilges,
Alexander h Jalen Williams, Chad Holmgren. I mean it looked
them hard and Halliburton and Miles Turner of all other moments.
But I think, I mean, McConnell's played wall of them

(02:27:52):
off the bench. But you got Alex Carusso coming off
the bench for Oklahoma City. No, I still think Oklahoma City,
player by player, top to bottom, is a better basketball team.
But I give I give Indiana card for making a series. Yeah,
they did great, and they're I mean they're pushing. Was
spent after I watched a lot of Game four it

(02:28:13):
and watched a lot of Game fiveers. I was bouncing
back and forth into the Rockets and they're the astros
in this SGA looked like he was cooked, and all
of a sudden he got in the fourth quarter and
just was amazing, and he's been the better second half
player in that series, even though Tyre's has that one
game winner. Let's go to Joe and pass the get down, Dina, Hi, Joe, Hey,

(02:28:34):
how y'all doing amazing?

Speaker 6 (02:28:36):
All right?

Speaker 11 (02:28:37):
Well, my take is is that I know that Charlie's
Angels was a drama, but if you sit there and
have a couple of Coldwells, just pretty funny. But Caton
Jackson and Fhara Fawcett beat all of them.

Speaker 1 (02:28:52):
Uh yeah, Faara Fawcet goat for sure. Thank you Joe
for the phone call, but we were we were sticking
to the comedies. By the way, you're going to win
your friends bracket over there. Good for you on that,
Thank you. And the other one is going to go
to a Gloria and Claire for Modern Family. Probably more
Gloria than Claire, but I think Claire was first of all.
They're both spectacular. Shout out to Longhorn legend. Farah Fawcet

(02:29:15):
Yep died the same day as Michael Jackson, second billing there.
Unfortunately because her his was sudden, hers was not. She
had had some problems cancer for a long time now. Yeah,
that's unfortunate. May she rest all right? So again one
bracket has Rachel and Monic at forty four percent, Christy

(02:29:36):
and Janet twenty nine percent, Kelly and Jesse at from
Save of the Bell at nine eighteen percent. In Carolyn
what Carolyn and Max doing okay for themselves at nine percent.
That's the first poll. Second one we've got forty six
percent for Glory and Claire, Ginger and Marianne at twenty
nine percent, Jennifer and Bailey at fifteen percent, Laverne, Laverne

(02:29:57):
and Hirley freaks out there at ten percent. Freaks well,
I mean, of the eight groups there, they're the least
attractive of the eight. Okay, they still claim ten percent.
I'll take your word for it. You know they like beer.
They worked at a brewery name of the brewery for

(02:30:21):
one million dollars. That would be Miller Cores. They would
not be Miller Cores. Shots S H O T Z. Okay,
I'll take your word for it, okay. And then they
left Milwaukee where they go from there? They went to Kalamazoo, Michigan.
They went to they went to California. I was close you.
I almost thought you had me for them. When you

(02:30:42):

or not? Is up next? All things about the College
World Series. I was want to say publicly, I'm okay
with standing Pat. If KD wants to come and you
got to be a move, that's fine. If Jayalen Green
wants to prove that last year's play out performance was
in one off, I'm okay with that too. In em

(02:31:06):
and Rafel, I trust because look, I got to celebrate
a playoff series. I got to get to a game seven.
Second round would have been nice. But going to all
those games, I was getting tired. It's nice to have
you back in studio for a couple of months. Was
going through it one line. But now you know, let's see,

(02:31:26):
don't go on a vacation. I'm gonna be going uh
first week of July. That's fantastic. Just going to volleyball.

thought you're going to Reno. No, that's next year. Okay, Oh,
there's divorced moms right m the force a moms volleyball
moms ready to party in uh in Reno. You saw

(02:31:46):
