Speaker 1 (00:01):
Is The Matt Thomas Show with Ross ten oh one
at h Town.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Good morning, and welcome to a Monday edition of The
Matt Thomas Show and Ross's Sports Talk seven et eight.
That song just around rub and poor Arie hunte ursery
all around the offensive line.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Cam Robinson's like his legas shanking Camp move his shins.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
I think they announced they're putting urcery at d in
this week. God almighty, it was just a bad day,
Ross week.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
Ones are gonna have bad days.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Remember, sixteen teams win every week and sixteen teams lose.
I like that math makes me feel better. Nless, it's
in the bye week, and then there's not as many
teams only you know now, I get your point.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
And the Astros lost.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
They did, Yes, I mean I don't think anybody worst.
The Super Why Watch Saturday was good, Saturday was outstanding.
Sunday not so much. Nope, Friday not so much. A
wonderful Saturday at Rice Stadium. The beat down continues in
to buy you bucket. Hopefully that game will never be
(01:17):
played again. Uh yeah, it's a going on pause. Correct, Well,
it's not scheduled. Earliest it could be rescheduled twenty thirty
but we're moving away from that. Well, Rice football could
be folded by this. It's extraly true. Ross Hell, hell
are you? I'm doing in great, Matt, And I won't
even mention that my fantasy team up, which I was
not a big fan of going out. I think I've
(01:37):
decided that if you don't like your draft, you might
be pretty good. I told you this. Like usually the draft,
I'm like, those are the teams that are dominant. That
actually happened in this weekend. The two drafts I like,
lost one draft I was unsure about justin fields would
offer thirtysh that's right. I gotta tell you. NFL football
(01:57):
was outstanding this weekend. It was great Buffalo Baltimore games
all time. What a choke job by the Ravens that
Derek Henry fumble. Yes, and it's funny because I actually
I I love watching Derrick Henry ply tweeted as much
as like you do the same thing he is he is.
You know what, there's a small part of me it's
(02:17):
never gonna happen. I would love for him to become
the all time leading rusher in the NFL. I don't
think he's up the list, though. I think but he's
got work to do though. I mean, Emma Smith again,
hall of Famer, blah blah blah blah blah, all time
leading rusher, maybe because he's a cowboy may or maybe
(02:40):
because he ended his career as an Arizona cardinal. But
I just to me, if I'm putting together a dream backfield,
ROSSI Aaron Emmitt Smith's not in my dream backfield. I'm
with you.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
You know.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
It's Jim Brown, It's Barry Sanders, It's Walter Payton, Adrian Peters,
Adrian Peterson, it's Derek freaking Henry. Adrian Peterson fifth on
the all time rushing list, Barry Center's fourth, Derrick Henry eighteenth,
and let's just tack on one thousand to his total.
He conceivably could get up to eleventh, passing Jim Brown,
being just behind Tony Dorset. Yeah, he's in a rough
(03:15):
fight air. The funny thing is, though, right now he's
sandwiching between Fred Taylor and Steven Jackson, who you don't
think of his all time, but who had very good careers,
excellent careers, excellent careers.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
All right, let's get to it. We are largely open
line today.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
We do have to tell the truth, come up at
eleven thirty, the news at noon today and we believe
it or not later at one fifty. So much to
get to and we like to leave Monday's rather open
because of this. Yes, okay, so gradually since the Toros
I forgot. Sorry, I will be six and nine before
you know it. In the in and out of the playoffs,
looks good, rough Riders not so much. Toros are looking good.
(03:51):
What's the name of the rough Righter? Just this the
rough Riders, Col's Rough Riders in. Whats your logo?
Speaker 3 (03:54):
Off?
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Why are you asking? Because I forgot? I want to
know why you want to out me in front of everyone, Jonathan.
It's it's a zoom in photo of Cal McNair's mustage.
I think it's a fantastic logo. Okay, that's kind of funny.
I mean I think you should to Hannah's Nema Marcus
black Cart eventually. But that's another here nor there. Okay,
all right, Uh, it's just one game and there are
(04:21):
sixteen more to go. So I want to make sure
I prefence for at least every time I talk about
the team. Under every there is a significant chance next
week they come in at the Loud Energy Stadium six
o'clock kickoff. Y'all are going to be in a fever
pitch and the Texans offense again look for as many
mistakes as they made in the game, including the a
(04:41):
fumble pump punch out the end of the game.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
Ross.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
It was a one score game. I mean, they had
so many penalties. The defense pass pro was atrocious. Nico
Collins was frankly non existent for most of the game.
What else, Oh, Matt Stafford can put every third down?
It felt like he had to get nicool was amazing,
even though they tried to take out part of his chin,
or not his chin, but his uh forehead with that
(05:06):
pad that kept bleeding over and falling off. And he's
still catching passes ten for one. It's pretty good. Probably
when we're targeted fifteen times if not having a thing
that bandage reapplied twice. Yeah, I mean, the the margin
was thin. They they fumbled in the red zone, so
you got to break there, but then you fumbled on
the other end, so that kind of that's kind of
(05:27):
a wash. But as you said, I mean the offensive
line was shifted around the end. It was shifted around
pregame after Ariantai Ercieri has been working out at left
laft back for like weeks correct and and a a
stone cold rookie in his first start on the road
against Jared Versu and Pooda Ford and company. Yeah, they
(05:48):
switched sides on him and then your center goes down,
and so I mean it it. I don't want to
call it a disaster, but it was. It was no,
you know, is a failure by the offensive one and coaching.
In my opinion, it's a okay, I feel like I'm
gonna do with the half the show and a macro
(06:08):
view and half the showing a micro view, and frankly,
maybe mondays we should do more micro but I mean
what yeah, yeah, yeah, So let's so macroview to me
is this team has an elite defense that c J. Stroud,
if given time, is gonna be fine. By the way,
when c J. Straw gets sacked, he doesn't just take
the loss, he he he adds five to six yards
or twelve yards.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
To those things.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
He's in a foot race to the old other goal line. Yeah,
and that and that's something that can be correct a boy,
you know what I means to be correct?
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Well, Matt Stafford took sack yesterday. Yes, he stays in
a pocket.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
I mean, And for those of that are like, well
I want CJ to run Moore, you know you do
not want him run more. He often tries to make
it because it's the blessing and the curse. Sometimes he
can shake guys off and make plays. And then we
talked it. We talk about how amazing it looks. But
when you you go backwards and you go the other
way and you get sacked, then that's obviously that's where
(06:57):
your team gets cost You cost your team. Okay, so
there are things that you say to yourself, Okay, if
he doesn't fumble, you're in the red zone. And remember
the Texans defense last year forced a lot of turnovers.
Turnovers were a part of their game. Lates.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
I thought that the field goal, the third field goal
before the half, was a huge thing.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
That's what I mean. There was so much about last
season in just that one game yesterday that I felt
like I was watching a continuation of last year's team.
And that's not a good thing. That's a fair assessment,
and that's what's frustrating. And I mean, some of it's
not your fault. You had Ingram go down before the
game and you had to shuffle your offensive line. I
(07:36):
still think they should have rather than kicking Titus Howard
and kept him at right tackle and Arianta Ersri at
left tackle, but it is what it is. And then
the running game, I mean, Nick Chubb didn't really get
going until the second half and it was like the
Texans needed a touchdown at the end of the game,
and in the Rams defense was softened up in the middle.
(07:57):
Before that, he just wasn't very good and it's not
like he had a gang us There's day in the
first place. So I am concerned about the run game
going in. We were. I'm concerned about the offensive line
going in. We were And that's a lot of last year.
So yeah, everything in the fears from last year were validated.
You had no Nico Collins was a no show, and
you were hoping to see a little bit more from
(08:20):
Jalen Noel and Jayden Higgins Noel and Jayden Higgins and
you really got nothing. And by the way, when did
the tight end become such a huge part of the
Texans offense. It felt like everything in the first quarter
and then somewhere to the tight ends. So yeah, Dalton Schultzen,
Kate Stover did good. I guess, yeah, five yards of
ketch ish. So let's let me do this and we
got a lot to chew on over the next few hours.
(08:46):
How answer this question for me? Battle right? If the
tech granted, not every team is going to have a
front seven as vicious as the Rams. Correct, but they're
not going against Grambling. You know what I mean? It's
there are going to be playmakers on every single team
that the Texans play the rest of the season. How
in the world do you have issues on the offensive
(09:10):
line in Week one with sixteen games left to go
and think that this team is going to be better
than it was last year and we had basically four
North new starters and then you shuffled around the whole game.
So that's how I mean that to me? Is honestly,
is that the quote unquote new offensive line coach? Is it?
The quote unquote new offensive coordinator?
Speaker 1 (09:31):
Is it?
Speaker 2 (09:32):
To me?
Speaker 1 (09:33):
This is on Casarrio.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
This is you create the roster, you give Demico the ingredients,
and you make it in which you made was a
was a blank pie out there. You can't play, I
can't play match game. It was I was gonna say something.
I mean, if we were all fair out to tell
you what a team, I'll tell you about a one
minute from now.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
Okay, thank you.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
Seven three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seventy. I didn't think the
Kayle offense was this spectacu. I mean, there are so
many people that owe you, guys apologies. All those little
YouTube video nerds that think they're journalists owe you an apology.
They just do well. It doesn't matter who the play
caller is, their offensive line camp. Yeah, yeah, it's it
(10:12):
was again. I want to I feel like I canna
go back and forth three macro micro micro to me
was it was just the same. So the question is
gonna be how does how does this avoid? How do
you avoid this for the next sixteen weeks? Did we
not Rossie? Did we not spend all freaking off season
talking about is this offensive only gonna be any better?
(10:32):
It's gonna get better? How cohesion and health? Maybe c J.
Stroud will have a better week of practice. Yeah, because
apparently it was not a great week of practice. You'll
hear from him next ten thirteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
All right, so, Apparently c J.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
Stroud said that the game week preparation.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
Wasn't spectacular going into this game against the Rams.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
You said four, yes, it says Nick Chubb. Well, I
mean that's what I was told four from Dan Matthews. Okay,
you keep talking. I'll find it, I'll find the car. Okay,
this is what we call advanced preparation for the show.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
That's my fault.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
We were chatting about other stuff.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Yeah. Hey, by the way, talk about the red zone.
I know that was a big issue.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
I watched it.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
What do you think about the commercials? No, it wasn't
a big deal at all. They put it aside. They
put it lower graphic and just put the little wing
stop with the game still going on, so you don't
feel like you're missing out on anything, so you don't
miss anything. Yeah. I think.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
I think Awful Announcing, which is like a broadcaster kind
of website that kind of watches over the media industry.
I think I think they said one minute of commercials altogether.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
Oh I have it. So yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
I didn't watch a supermount of it because I was
at a family event during the before the Texans game
and then one of the Textans games. I was watching
that ninety percent of the time. So but it is
funny how CPS cover it up. Next Detroit and Green Bay.
We're live at Lambell Field and all the NFL Today
people there and they're all doing the Lambele Leap and
they're all getting ready for this big game between the
(12:16):
Lions and the Packer. Some of you will see the
Houston Texans and the l a Rams. I mean it
was we were the complete afterthought of the of the
three to twenty five game.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
Yame.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
I thought it was a huge matchup. Matt.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
I liked it me too. I love Kevin Harley, you
know me. I have a mean yeah, and I love
me some Melanie Collinstro Traations, red Zone, US Open Finals,
wonderful Sunday. All right, I have it now they will.
Some of the cuts were getting labeled Stroud. This one
said CJ with.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
A number on it.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
So that's why that's me. I mean, you know, it
was inconsistently labeled. But it's it's my fault though, Okay
it was. It was it slugged by Gordy. No, it
doesn't matter, Okay, continue on, Okay, here we go. Okay,
now my computer doesn't lie. I thought a computer for
the practice better.
Speaker 4 (13:04):
I think you know, I love, I love the confidence
we have, but there is a I don't know. I
always say, there's like a type of all.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
Right, now, let's just have let's just have him pulled it.
Let's just have a I'm gonna restart this computer. I'm sorry, guys,
this is my fault. It's really not your fault. It's
our computer's fault. But you probably we should have tested
it in the break. All right, here we go, here's.
Speaker 4 (13:27):
J I think you know, I love, I love the
confidence we have, but there's a I don't know. I
always say there's like a type of mindset is I
did I do enough? And I think it's a healthy
way to be because then you'll probably do more. So
I just for me, you know, preparing, I gotta do
a better job. And I also got to hold my
guys accountable, you know, for that one exile and it's
(13:50):
the first end of the year. We had a lot
of exiety looks we did not expect they did too,
but they made the play. So you can come with
a million excuses. We got to just be better.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
You didn't necessarily say they were ill prepared. So that
they could have prepared better, and they got a lot
of exotic looks they weren't expecting because there were some
free runners and that was the big problem last year.
Free runners happened a couple times in the last game.
And again, I don't think I'm overstaying this. CJ has
got to be better about taking the ball, putting in
(14:22):
his midsection and taking that sack. I mean there were
I mean the three sacks, it felt like every one
of them were double digit lost yards on those plates.
I think they were. And yeah, that's just completely At
one point in the game they put up their average
third down it was like third and twelve. Yeah, you're
just not gonna win football games like that. You're just not, no,
(14:42):
you know. And again, the use of tenne was cool.
I thought Nick Chubb showed some signs in moments. Damian
Pierced not so much. Google Wale fumble hurts. That's it's
just the reality of it.
Speaker 3 (14:55):
You know.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
Does that does that question? Why Google Wi it's even
in the game at that point, I don't know. I
mean that's just an It's football. Yeah, Yeah, Landman comes
up there and makes a great punch.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
Land Man.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
I feel like a superhero back in the seventies, when
you when you're watching cartoons, will you I was watching
some Aquaman, I was watching wonder Woman. I'm watching land Man.
Landman sounds way boring, more boring than Aquaman. Yeah, but
then they have to keep on making inventing crimes to
happen in the ocean. Yeah, I was gonna say, usually
the ocean is a pretty safe place. How many maritime
lews could be broken? Exactly? How many squid are causing
(15:28):
those many issues out there? Tim and friends would on
seven ninety Hello Tim.
Speaker 1 (15:33):
What's up?
Speaker 5 (15:33):
Guy's been a while? So first things first, Man, if
only the defenses we play the remaining sixteen games will
just give us the look that we're expecting, we are freaking.
Speaker 2 (15:42):
Golden right, That's true.
Speaker 6 (15:44):
We're ready to go, right, So now listen, man, I
got I got two questions for you. But but real quick,
can I can I talk an Astros comment? I wanted
to say congrats to the Astros for once again making
the last twenty five games of every single season.
Speaker 5 (15:58):
A playoff games. I'm I mean bonus coverage for that, right,
So on the Texans, Matt, you guys are gonna have
to talk me down here, because I got two concerns. One,
I'm gonna talk it up to first game Jitters possibly
but the OC not getting Nick involved, Nico involved, excuse me, boring,
boring play calling, slow tempo. I just I worry big
(16:23):
time that we're not going to be eight games into
the season and being like, where's Bobby Slowick? And then
number two hopefully can address both of these. Talk me
off the ledge that at this pace, every single season,
the O line has been an issue for this team
since day one with David Carr, we have never been
able to find five guys that seem to work together
(16:45):
and can protect the QB. So talk me off the
ledge that DJ is not going downhill, not going to
be beata hell and become you know, basically secondhand.
Speaker 7 (16:56):
Used the goods.
Speaker 8 (16:57):
That's all I got on time.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
I can help with one of those things. The Texans
when seat when they were first making the playoffs with
Matt Schaub, had Eric Winston, Mike Brizell, Chris Myers, Dwayne Brown.
I'm forgetting the fifth guy, the guy that came over
from the Chiefs. Ye, I don't know, it doesn't matter
(17:20):
Waite Smith.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Wait, I've see a volleyball the time, I was gonna
ask him if. Yeah, those five guys were the best
offensive one the Texans ever had, and they kept Matt
upright for the most part. I mean, Matt was not
very elusive, so he was strictly pocket passed. He wasn't
scrambling for any point, but he that was the best
very elusive. As an understatement that you ask, Okay, I
(17:43):
mean cement and concrete. But that was the That was
a three or four year stretch Rossie where the offensive
line was elite. Yes, even Laramie Tunsel, it wasn't particularly good.
Now I remember you did strike out on some offensive
line acquisitions. Uh was the k think I just got
released in Philadelphia. That was a former first round pick
of the Texans a couple of years back. I'm drawing
(18:04):
blank on his name already. And so far it's mixed juice.
Scruggs has been underperforming as an offensive lineman. Uh, you know, Frankly,
you know it's it's they're trying, they're just missing.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
Mm hmmm. Yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
Mean, I don't know, I don't know how to other
way to say it. We talked about this off season.
I mean I understand it's culture, culture, culture, Texans culture.
But Laramie Tunsel was your best offensive lineman even with
all the baggage and the penalties. Yeah, and there's gonna
be some growing pains there. Titus Howard's been just okay.
(18:49):
He's been okay. He's been okay between injuries and not
being able to define a position. Ross probably a little
underwoman as a first round Would that be fair to say?
I would say so, yeah, But I mean he's been
the league on the team this long. It's certainly not
a bust. But you would have hoped for better.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
Yeah. Oh Kenyan Green, Yes, thank you very much. Hey,
he took Kenyan Green.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
You first of all, you overdrafted him, and then he
couldn't stay healthy and he couldn't stay on the field,
and he moved him and then he said he got cut. Yeah,
oh yeah, I think he got cut him. My god,
I didn't know that.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
Well, he's available. You're looking for some help.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
Are you saying we should take a flyer on him?
Speaker 1 (19:35):
No? No, no, no.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
No, okay, I mean please, I don't I don't want
to oversimplify this, but I'm literally asking you if they're
bad in week one How in the world are they
supposed to get better when they first of all can't
stay healthy. Then being the offensive line with so many
different shifts, not enough depth, and you didn't make a
(19:58):
bang bang act move. You didn't replace Laramie Tunsel with something. Again,
Tay Ursery probably gonna be a nice NFL player, frankly
right now being unfairly treated because of the fact he's
having to move all around. I mean, his first NFL game,
he will never uh Ariantasery will never forget his first
NFL game and a regular season contest. He didn't sit still,
(20:22):
keep moving around.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
How do you how does that happen?
Speaker 2 (20:28):
It's not ideal, it's it's anything but ideal. I mean
it's Cam Robbins is kind of a journeyman. Jake Andrews
is kind of I mean, he was just a guy
for a couple of years the Patriots and Lincoln Tomlinson
as a journeyman. That's your whole left side. And then
it was Howard and Ursery on the right side, a rookie,
(20:48):
and then a guy as you mentioned, who's been not
just a guy but play. I didn't even think that
Ingram is like, oh man, we're gonna be so much
better than Ingram have future all program. It's a concern
and it's going to continue to be a concern. So literally,
the season ended in twenty twenty four. Here we are
(21:09):
in twenty twenty five and we're already banging the drum
for changes in the offensive line. Well, we don't know,
if to changes to what. I don't know, maybe just
they get a little more cohesion. They can actually all
stay in one place. And Nick Kaylee, you're imagining, I mean,
you can only go up from here as a play caller.
(21:29):
This is literally his first week ever play as a
as an NFL play caller. And then who is your
offensive MVP?
Speaker 1 (21:38):
In many regards?
Speaker 2 (21:39):
Justin Watson. Yes, somebody if you walked into a bar
and he said Hi, I'm Justin Ross, and I'd say, Hi, Justin,
I'm Madden Ross.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
What do you do for a living? Justin?
Speaker 2 (21:50):
Actually, he's actually been a pretty decent NFL receiver over
the years. Blue guy, But mind, god, was he a
starry yesterday.
Speaker 1 (22:00):
It's not good.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
So, by the way I lean, the points in the
first half is zero in the second. I was gonna
do teos today. But the fan base said it's only
week one, so we will not do tos. Okay, so those
are t Texans proper reactions. It's week to week in
the NFL. Yeah, we did this last year. One week
against the Jets. They just look like they are absolutely
inept and then they could bounce back and get some wins. Yeah.
(22:26):
To tell the truth, coming up one hour from now,
I'll have it Texans hot takes.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
Oh, they're gonna be sizling.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
We'd call you hot take, Thomas. They're gonna be cizzling.
Ten thirty one on Sports Talk seven ninty seven one
three two one two five seven. Ati, you wanted to
discuss what you saw from the Texans yesterday? If you
want to discuss what you saw with the Astros yesterday, boy,
this you know what's gonna happen. I mean, let me
say my astros take coming back, because I think there's
(22:52):
gonna be some people that are gonna come back at
the end of this year. We're gonna come back and
tell us I told you so from our listeners. Okay,
and I'll exp mixt ten thirty one on Sports Talk
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven
ninety all Right, I'm gonna to say my astros take
(23:15):
for little ball because somebody just sent this to me
on Twitter. I gotta, I gotta shut you out, whoever
you are. Let's see who you are, uh, pedro this
guy six ninety three to one. I don't follow Pro
Football Talk because Mike Fourriio is a complete douchebag. But
that's a different issue for a different time. Follow it
because it's got good NFL. It's an aggregation. You You've
(23:37):
taught me stay away from aggregator, so I do. That's
not true. Some of the aggregators who don't provide any
of their own news. Mike Florio does provide his own
news sometimes, that's okay. So you know what, he's maybe
not a complete douchebag, it's just a partial douchebag. Okay,
this is from pro this is so I gotta read this.
I'm gonna try to read the highlights quickly here. Okay,
(23:59):
years ago, yeah, so apparent. Remember our friend carry McNair.
Well he's not everyone's friend, but well he could be.
If you want to come on seven. I don't even
tell a story. I'm more than ready for that.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
He is targeting the NFL Pro Football Talk obtained a
letter from Tony Buzzby because probably Tony Busby sent it
to Pro Football Talk. Let's not kid ourself, you know,
my our friend Tony Busby. He requests mediation from Commissioner
Goodell on behalf of Carry McNair, the son of Texans
founder Robin McNair. The five page document accuses the League
(24:36):
and cal McNair of quote engineering the ouster of Karen
McNair from the Texans and other family interest Whoooooo, I
want you to read that again. Actually, I want to
read this again. The five page document accuses the League
and cal McNair of engineering the ouster of Karen McNair
from the Texans and other McNair family business interests.
Speaker 1 (24:59):
We got.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
Go ahead, sorry, he says. Without a resolution, Busby and
McNair will proceed in court and not in the NFL's
preferred form of arbitration. Wow. McNair's case centers on a
twenty twenty four letter agreement regarding the termination of his
employment relationship with the McNair family businesses. Busby accused of
the League of colluding with cal McNair to harm the
(25:23):
interest of Carry McNair. This is what Busby writes, although
it is clear that both the NFL and cal McNair
conspired to eliminate Kerry McNair, it'll be interesting to ferret
out who came up with the specific plan. I want
to know what lies cal McNair told the NFL about
his brother carry. I intend to find out why the
(25:44):
NFL chose to go out on a limit take action
that it knew would be harming my client well at
the same time subject to the NFL to liability.
Speaker 4 (25:52):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
So, and there's some things about the Deshaun Watson situation.
There is also the sexual abuse case involving a former
minority owner hobby Er lawyer. Skipping a few paragraphs, stay
with me. In this Busby also attacks cal McNair's fitness
to serve as the controlling owner of the Texans to quote,
(26:17):
this is so juicy. I need the funk master fleck
bombshells noise here. It is widely known fact in Houston
that cal McNair is unqualified to be an owner's representative.
The NFL knows it as well. Okay, I'm sorry to
do this. I want you to read that one again. Actually, okay,
(26:38):
stay with me. It is widely known fact in Houston
that caw McNair is unqualified to be an owner's representative
and the NFL knows it as well.
Speaker 1 (26:48):
Oh my god, staying with me on this.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
Despite what he has placed on certain websites, cal McNair
is not even a college graduate.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
Oh my god. Cal McNair interesting.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
Now claims he obtained an NBA from the prestigious Rice University,
although the Rice Administration Office has stated quite clearly that
an individual lacking an undergraduate degree is ineligible to receive
a Rice MBA. These have an exception was made for
col due to a well timed charitable donation by his parents.
(27:23):
These are haymakers the NF. Last thing of Bosby says,
the NFL's interference has caused my client, mister McNair, this
is Kerry McNair, more than sixty million dollars in direct
financial losses. Because I believe the NFL's conduct to be
wilful and malicious, I intend to ask a Houston jury
to award many times that amount as punitive damages.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
Oh, I love a family feud. Let's go.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
I'm gonna just let you folks know Matt Thomas loves
soapropes because he lives for drama, and he is living
for this right now.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
It's my willhouse. Matt is loving this. Carrie is saying
my brother is a buffoon and not said they're going
straight for the going for that vein.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
Oh my god, it go for We always wondered about
that Rice NBA. We did. Oh, we've worried about that
for a long time. It's like he got he got
it NBA for Rice and we heard him talk. I mean,
okay's Robert c McNair business building. So let's put both
sides of this. Carrie might have gotten sideways with the family,
(28:40):
clearly he did. It's I might have he got sideways
to the family, and the family's like, not only do
we hate you for doing what you've done to perspirch
our mother's mental capacities, but we're gonna fire you from
everything and you're not gonna die from it. This is
clearly there is a two sides to this, and I
want to make sure we're very clear with this. But
(29:01):
you go get Tony Busby to fight the NFL and
basically call your brother a dufus and alleged that he
never got a college degree and this NBA he got
from Rice was because dad wrote a check. I mean,
tell me this ain't juicy. Good night nurse. Wow, it's
(29:29):
all about that Texans offensive line.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
Wow. I want to read this NBA paragraph.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
I did read it out loud. Just do it for
it is widely known fact that Kal McNair is unqualified
to be an owner's representative of the NFL knows it
as well. Indeed, despite what he has placed on certain websites,
cal McNair is not even a college graduate yet. Cal
McNair interestingly now claims that he obtained an NBA from
the prestigious Rice University, although the Rice Administration Office has
(30:00):
stated quite clearly that an individual lacking an undergraduate degree
is ineligible to receive a Rice NBA. And then then
they go parent parentheses on them. Oh, perhaps an exception
was made for call McNair do it a well time
charitable donation by his parents. Hmmm, we'll figure that out
in due course. I mean, there are family feuds and
(30:25):
there's this this. I's gonna tell you a little. If
any of you are a part of families that have
multi billion dollars of generational wealth, have your act together,
because this has happened. This happens, I'm sure all the
all the time. We don't care if members the Walmart
family don't get along cause we don't talk about Walmart radio. Well,
actually you do because you're mister Walmart over there. But
(30:48):
when it's an NFL owner, that's juicy. But when it's
a local owner, that's getting I mean, wow, one of
the most recognizable attorneys in his country. Wow Bro goes
against Bro. Wow me, WHOA, I need a cigarette. I'll
(31:08):
see some energy.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
Ross.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
You know what you do? Need some energy?
Speaker 1 (31:11):
Matt ten fifty three.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
Is the time time now for our GUARDI drop by
every Monday and Friday at this time when he doesn't
forget seven ninety is your homie? Did the Astros tenth
inning show? Yes, Shack, shout out to you for doing
the tent thinning. I'll be doing the tenth thinning next week.
But there's no Astros, no Texans game to go mono
monol with it.
Speaker 9 (31:33):
So yeah, it was uh, I think we were midway
late in the second quarter.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
Yeah, when we went live at the post game, we
got a couple of calls. That's fine, that's good.
Speaker 9 (31:43):
But when the Astros have lost Uh, what, they're three
and six and their last nine they're good, stumbling.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
Stumbling, playing about four to seventy baseball for about two
months ago, right, ever, take it around five hundred four seventies.
Speaker 9 (31:59):
But I had a caller who's like one of the
post game calls, like I think they're gonna fall out
of this, and I'm like, that would be an epic collapse. Well,
an epic collapse, like you're talking losing eight of ten.
Speaker 1 (32:12):
They're only two and a half up now, right.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
And by the way, Atlanta, Now, Atlanta got its brains
beat out yesterday. Yeah, but they were pesky to the
Mariners on Friday. The Blue Jays are trying to hold
on the American League East and all the way, try
to be the number one team in the American League.
So that these are not gonna be any fun. I
would say, just don't get swept in Toronto.
Speaker 9 (32:32):
If you can win at least one, I think you
got a good chance to go take two out of
three or sweep the Braves.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
God I hope. So, uh, they just don't get swept
card I don't want to be here. But how about
how about the Rangers? Very unconfident about the the Rangers
have closed this gap too.
Speaker 9 (32:49):
We are guys, this next home stand with three against
the Rangers and three against the Mariners. If the Astros
fall flat on their face, they could end up in third.
We could come out of next week. The ass was
being third place in the Al West with the Rangers
and Mariners ahead of them.
Speaker 2 (33:02):
And you know what, if that happens, they won't deserve it.
They won't deserve to be there. I mean, that's it's
it's as simple as that, go win the games or don't.
And they've had a lot of injuries, and they've had
a lot of underperformances, and that's what a lot all
add up to. They'll have nobody to blame it themselves
and the injuries. Really.
Speaker 9 (33:17):
But the reason why I don't think that will happen.
I don't think they'll flodd of this is because they
are consistently inconsistent.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
They won't go on a stretch where they lose six
in a row. They have those games where the bats
show up and the pitching's great, they went eleven and nothing.
So it's like, you know, those happen more than just
lost loss loss loss loss, Well, I mean that's just
it's just the hallmark of the of the team that
they've been. And again we'll go with the injuries have
been a huge part of it, but they just have been,
(33:47):
for the most part, inconsistent all year long. You know what,
if the Mariners beat them, the Mariners deserve it. To
back up your point, just hold on into that. Those
six games of Seattle and Texas at home. I mean,
the hopefullnest anyone's filled hopefully to be a good buzz
to that. Uh, the Sunday night game and by why,
I got a gut feeling hit on that is moved
to ESPN for Sunday Night Baseball. Good job, that'll be
(34:08):
the final ESPN Sunday Night Baseball game. I think. Ever, dude,
do do do do? Carl Ravage great broadcast and I'm
a play and you know me, I'm gonna play by
a play snob.
Speaker 1 (34:20):
Uh huh.
Speaker 2 (34:21):
I mean usually you try to tear the one down.
Do you feel like you can do better?
Speaker 1 (34:25):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (34:25):
In that case, I can do better. Put me on
the Sunday Night game of the week. I could do better.
Speaker 9 (34:29):
The worst thing they did was put those guys on
the College World Series where they don't know anything about.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
It's like putting Charles Barkley on Final four cover.
Speaker 8 (34:39):
Is good?
Speaker 1 (34:40):
What?
Speaker 2 (34:40):
All right? So let's get to this. Your LSU Tigers
let down America by barely hanging on to beat Louisiana
Tech and then as did Georgia barely beat Austin.
Speaker 1 (34:49):
P and then that true.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
What was the final score?
Speaker 9 (34:52):
It was like twenty eight to six ours twenty three
barely twenty three to seven, and then they were like
forty point favorites both of them.
Speaker 2 (34:58):
And the Saints were in those atrocious uniforms yesterday the
gold Tops. Come on, they got the cover? Is that
worried about now?
Speaker 9 (35:07):
Oh yeah, Saints are Saints are at full on tech
mode and by the way, they are on Arch Manning.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
No, they're not arts coming back way? Do you guys
see the video of the arch Manning arm wins with
the show? Is that AI or is that legit? I
think it's legit and it is concerning.
Speaker 9 (35:26):
I mean, if he's got a shoulder injury, you got
utep and Sam Houston Steak, go ahead and take a seat.
Speaker 1 (35:31):
Arch That's what I'm saying. I mean, are you don
ana want to shoot that bad boy out?
Speaker 2 (35:35):
Quin you? Weres played through injury basically all last year.
I mean it's always he had I think he had
an elbow or a shoulder issue, or there's also context.
When was that When was that video taken? I mean
that could have been in the second quarter and he
was fine the rest of the way. I mean, just
I don't know, you guys are making me sad.
Speaker 9 (35:56):
He looked better. That's predicted. You knew they were gonna
look better again. State. Look look yeah four first half touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
Got hey, you got three straight wings coming up. You've
got Sam Houston, State, utip U, TEP and you're gonna
go to Florida when they're because how Florida goes there?
Now that's a that's a not as scary as a
the game now it doesn't look as scary now that
they lost.
Speaker 1 (36:18):
But whatever.
Speaker 9 (36:19):
But the buzz on the internet, by the way, home
games arch like some some Caucasian receivers, Oh right, stop Parker,
you really didn't.
Speaker 2 (36:29):
You're really running with this on it? It was all
over know you were gonna do this, Yeah, it's all
over certain, Yeah you're for you, Tam. People really like
the guys. I'm all right wing. Breck a brother off.
He's open. I didn't see that tweet. It's not on
that one's not on my algorithm. I'm looking at Gordy's
tweet line right now. It says I love Justin Watson. Yeah,
(36:51):
I love Uh, let's tell also what you love on here.
Speaker 9 (36:55):
There's no freak out for me with the Texas stovered
fan Okay, Rams defense is steadily. I knew they were
going to give the Texans fense, so that's no surprise
from me. Now go take care, beat your crappy divisional
opponents and win this crappy division.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
By the way, in Naples put up a thirty burger
on the Miami Dolphins. Daniel Jones looking good.
Speaker 9 (37:15):
Miami has a debacle though. That's that's crumbling. Their defense
was supposed to be good though.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
Mike McDaniel not a good NFL head coach. Uh yeah,
I mean apparently as bro's bro. But that's not gonna
last very much longer. Eh, Well, to a tongue of loa,
it's so crazy, all right.
Speaker 9 (37:31):
So real hot take is the forty nine ers coaching
tree crumbling here. Mike McDaniel, Demico Ryans and slow. Oh,
Demiko Ryans is good. He's got no.
Speaker 2 (37:41):
Offensive line is, let me defense fantastic. How much do
penalties go directly towards the head coach?
Speaker 1 (37:49):
I'm gonna say zero if you want.
Speaker 2 (37:50):
I'm not gonna say zero, but I mean if a
lot of it is, what like there was a couple
of those. The personal fouls were like just football play
right when Toto went low. And there was another one
where Bullock hit Nikou in the head, but Nikkua is
like falling down. Those are just penalties that happened. But
the ones where it's like false starts, I mean, are
(38:12):
you putting that on the defensive coordinators? Last defensive head
coach that the that Laramie Tunsel last year is losing
his mind and tries to false starting time because he
doesn't want to.
Speaker 1 (38:20):
Give a press on the road.
Speaker 9 (38:22):
I mean, it's I guess it's not a hostile of
all the hostile NFL road environments.
Speaker 2 (38:26):
So I'm trying to think of And there was an
encroachment in clutch time that was big. It brought a
third nine to third and four something like that, right,
that was bad. I don't know. Is the mac Thomas
show with.
Speaker 10 (38:40):
Ross all right?
Speaker 1 (38:45):
It is an open line Monday literally meaning that what
you want to get to astros chatter Texans losing in
Los Angeles yesterday DeAndre Hopkins with yet another one handed grab.
Speaker 2 (39:00):
See and we'll go to the phones in just one second. Here,
look Deandre's tenure the last uh in Houston came to
a grinding halt with the most stunning maybe moment maybe
in the history of our radio show while we were
live on air. And look his places he's gone since
then since Arizona have not been great. He was good
in Arizona, but not great, and he's been kind of
(39:21):
shuffling around from school. But he did make the one
handed grab yesterday that was absolutely sick. Now, if I
tell you he has the greatest hands I've ever seen
live in person. Who's he debating for that? Number?
Speaker 3 (39:36):
One?
Speaker 1 (39:36):
Two?
Speaker 2 (39:36):
Popped in my head that second you said that. Okay,
go ahead, Chris Carter, Larry Fitzgerald. He's on that list.
Speaker 7 (39:44):
Though.
Speaker 2 (39:46):
I don't think I ever saw Chris Carter play in person. Okay,
you mean like that you saw in the building. Yeah,
I mean I was Chris Carter play obviously. Yeah, but
he had some hands. Now, kids, let me tell you,
youngins about Chris Carter. He was a horrible human being,
but he had great an Let me tell about Chris Carter.
What a complete hole I have never been. I was
(40:10):
in Minnesota and one year when we did a Super
Bowl radio row, when I went down to Phoenix and
I and Chris was still fighting to get in the
Hall of Fame, and I said, Chris, come over, I
want to I want to prop you up. He couldn't.
He's working on ESPN at the time. He could not
have been a more miserable human being. I was like, no,
one of the NFL isn't watching the Hall of Fame.
I eventually got in, but yeah, he was just an
unbelievable a hill. Larry Fitzgerald, to me, is a very
(40:34):
good comp and maybe that's the one I'm thinking of
that would be among this generation in terms not necessarily
would seasons without a drop season.
Speaker 1 (40:43):
I'm not talking about.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
Breakaway speed, yeah, I'm not talking about the great route run.
I'm just talking about the ball is near you, that
ball is going to fall into your hands and it's
not going to drop. Yeah. The old saying was that
he had had more tackles than drops. Yeah, and he
made a great catch. That game was phenomenal. Yesterday, the deflection,
(41:05):
the late game come back. I'll be honest with you, Rossie.
I felt when they were up two touchdowns late, I
went to sleep. I was like, you know, a Baltimore
good win, and you know what, I was thinking, there's
got to be a small part of sports every He's like,
you know what, I picked the Baltimore's wind the super
Bowl and when you go to the when you go
to Buffalo in Week one and win, that makes you
super Bowl caliber. It just does well. And then they
(41:26):
lost and then they lost. But I mean it was
a good.
Speaker 1 (41:28):
Game and Cougar great at Oliver crushing like normal.
Speaker 2 (41:32):
Uh yeah, he's very good. Of course, he says he
regrets going to Houston, wishes he would have gone to LSU,
but he had a great career. He wishes he could
have gone to U of h eight years like I did.
You no literal quotes from him saying he wishes he
would have went to LSU. He only went there because
his brother was at you of age. Yeah, and he
said it was the best decision ever and made my attitle.
Speaker 1 (41:50):
I can literally pull up the quotes, all right.
Speaker 3 (41:52):
Seven.
Speaker 2 (41:53):
He had a great career for the Cougars. Seven one
three two one two five seven houety, So if the
Texans offensive line is a hot mess after week one,
how are we gonna feel eight weeks from now? Just
I want you to think about that and called us in.
They're gonna gel and get and pull it together and
maybe a trade's gonna be made. I don't know, but
as it stands right now, week one was not good.
(42:14):
And again, if you're a YouTube failed media person and
you had a video out there and bragging about the
offensive line, you go on your little show today with
your fifty five views and apologize people for saying the
Texans offensive lines can be better than ever. Just apologize,
but you won't cause you'all are frauds. Uh Roger on
seven ninety eleven O eight Roger, good morning to.
Speaker 7 (42:33):
You, and good morning gentlemen. Wow, what are they?
Speaker 10 (42:38):
I mean for our well local sports team actually crapp
in the bed the whole weekend.
Speaker 7 (42:43):
It's just the the.
Speaker 10 (42:47):
That that that that thing you just let out with
the mcgarren's. I mean, how how what kind of effects
you're gonna have? One of the on the team and
they're gonna fight for something we all read you Buck
Alt McNair in the town that guy, you know, Hannah
did a good job reinventing you know, the franchise and
(43:07):
covering it up and you know, making them the tolerable.
But yeah, this is gonna come delighted. Now we're going
to be back again to the to the you know
off there. All that hard work of the sharpening our
engine image and now it's going to kind of falter
a little bit and what kind of what is that
going to have on our team?
Speaker 1 (43:24):
That zero?
Speaker 2 (43:26):
Thanks Roger, I appreciate it, We thank you for the call. No,
Roger will hub and I'm going to say this, this
will not affect the locker room under any circumstance. This
is a pissing match between ridiculously rich billionaires. So generally speaking,
it's more fun for us. Yeah, it's more fun for
the national tabloids. It's more fun for a certain midday
(43:49):
radio show than you know that basically has said that
cow is very lucky to be worried is But that's
not going to Dimico's not let the infiltrate Ni Casserio
doesn't even know who carry is much less anything else.
It's not going to make any difference whatsoever. The reality
is we've always in the back of our mind and
(44:10):
even this is the most dieheard of Texans fans. I mean,
you know, your your owner has been a goof and
it's how do I put this Cal's I think if
Cal walked in here right now and said out and
we would have a very nice, fun, laid back, chill
(44:30):
conversation level, not deep conversation, but that is that's the
off I mean, for instance, I'm not shooting the blank
with Tillman Fertita. He's all about business. I'm not shooting
the blank with Jim Crane, He's all about business. I
don't know if Cal has a real deep understanding of
(44:51):
the business he you know, Hannah probably has a significant
role in that. Now they hired a new team president
who was brought here to get least a minimum new
facility put together in probably either a refurbers stadium or
a brand new stadium. That's the goal. And uh again,
I don't think that Cal is intimately involved in the
data activities of the organization. He probably has a lot
(45:14):
of good lieutenants around him and they do the heavy
lifting forum and that's fine, that's what you're supposed to do.
But It's one thing for us to kind of joke
about it. But when a brother goes after the other
brother and says, the NFL knows that that that cal
is is is what was the exact term on that,
Rossie uh uh, I don't want to miss h not
(45:39):
engineered his ouster. No, no, no, no talking about he's not
he's not he's inadequate to run the team. He's there's
the unqualified to representative. Yeah, the NFL knows it as well,
and they came for his rice NBA, which really strikes
me funny because we've been talking about that for years
on this show.
Speaker 1 (45:59):
Yeah, I don't think we're shocked.
Speaker 2 (46:02):
No, And the problem is just look you like and
I you know, I always talk about that movie that
the TV show Succession.
Speaker 3 (46:10):
M hm.
Speaker 2 (46:10):
There was several brothers and one sister in that show.
And again it's it's fiction. So this is hard for
me to cross over on this. But tell me that
the Ford family didn't have issues with several siblings. Some
were successful, some weren't, Some just collected the check, Some
thought they were more successful than others, Some wanted to
be more power. I mean, this is just that this
(46:30):
is a power hungry, billion dollar family that happens on
an NFL team, and unless everybody is on the same page,
you're gonna have strife. And this is exactly what you're
getting here, is you've got a brother who sounds like
he's been iced out of the organ of the family,
not only of the Texans, but of the family other
(46:53):
business interests. It says, Okay, you're gonna you're gonna kick
me out of this. I'm gonna take you down with me,
and I'm gonna insult you, and I'm gonna go after
the NFL because the NFL is saying, you know, since
Col's been a nice guy and hasn't caused any too
many ripples in the NFL streets, that the NFL had
Caw McNair's back when maybe Cal asked for them to
have his back when it came to brother Carry. This
(47:16):
is getting messy, folks. This is this is gonna be fun.
I thought I thought we were done with Carry McNair.
I did too. I thought I thought everything was okay.
I mean, Carrie basically said mom's not got her wits
to her and well, yeah, there was a lawsuit there
he lost. I'm gonna assume that Carrie will not be
at the mom's induction in the Ring of Honor.
Speaker 1 (47:34):
Probably not.
Speaker 2 (47:37):
Of course, Col's living in a one bedroom apartment off
of West Alabama right now, when the rest of the
family's living on in River Oaks. That's probably not true.
I thought Carry was running all the business interests. Doesn't
sound like it now he's looking he said the cost
of Busby says it's costing him sixty million dollars.
Speaker 4 (47:53):
H m hmm.
Speaker 2 (47:57):
Makes the offensive line issues kind of petty, doesn't it. No,
I'd rather the offensive line be fixed. I don't care
about this. Yeah, this is just fodder because it's today.
I mean, I don't We're only going to really get
into this when we get news developments and a clearly
Mike Florio is very interested in this. Seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five. Some man, let me tell you about
(48:17):
Hannah's pissed. I mean you, oh, you know, she is
running around the house today, I mean dropping f bombs
on her brother in law like you wouldn't believe. She
just crushed her. She had her Pumpkins spice latte in
her hand, and she just crushed the cup. Yeah, she
threw the cup against the wall and had one of
the housekeepers cleaning. I mean it was It's not pretty, gang,
It's just not seven one three two one two five
(48:40):
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven
ninety you want, we'll take your calure to tell the truth.
Coming up at the bottom of the hour eleven fourteen
here on Sports Talk seven ninety we will be uh
doing our own YouTube show.
Speaker 1 (48:57):
Actually, can't we Just the conversation we just had is
not suitable for.
Speaker 2 (48:59):
You, for anybody. Good God, I apologize for asking an
insensitive question.
Speaker 1 (49:06):
You should.
Speaker 2 (49:09):
You know they call me folks thinks that Matt crosses
lines on air. My god, they call me mister insensitive.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven nine zero. Let's
go to the phones to talk to you, folks. Astros
suffer a two out of three series lost the Rangers.
By the way, the Rangers blue uniforms are ugly, gross, nasty. Ugh,
(49:34):
this is a side point.
Speaker 1 (49:36):
I like them. I know I'm in a minority. I
get ACKed.
Speaker 2 (49:39):
No, I think well, I mean, most Astros fans probably
agree with all right, But by the way, every time
I did watch the Astros game, there was still a
lot of Astro fans there shout out to you all
that go there. I mean, yeah, not that far, but
it's niceties. I mean, where do you stay if you're
staying in art in your next to a pawnshop within
thirty yards a six paunchot then a rapplerease? Yeah, but
(50:03):
would you would you see the light is rapleries commercial.
There's like a three combo appetizer for fifteen bucks of choices.
Saucas's like eighty different choices for rappleriase. No, I didn't know.
How about the zero choice I'm making when I'm not
going there? When's the last time you sat down and
ate it?
Speaker 7 (50:16):
One?
Speaker 2 (50:19):
Oh, Cleveland, Ohio? That makes sense? We were like it
was we didn't choose it. We had my son, my
son this is well, this is now going to be
six years or five years ago. My son paint in
the middle. And we went to uh Musselm Parks up
there in Cleveland, you know, the big roller coaster, And
it was the park closing nine o'clock and we were starving,
and you know nine o'clock in rural it wouldn't rule
(50:40):
but it was definitely a suburb of Cleveland. Not a
lot of choices. Were like, we're hunger, We're gonna do.
What do you all want? Just Hamburger's.
Speaker 1 (50:45):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (50:45):
We went to Rappleries and had had you know, dinner.
Speaker 1 (50:47):
It's fine.
Speaker 2 (50:48):
They do have good French onion soup. If you're a
French onion soup fan, which I am. Yeah, I know
you drafted it in soups French onion soup at the rappleriase,
I'm not proud, it's no. And we had all these
calls and all this dropped off. Are you are you
hanging up on these people?
Speaker 5 (51:04):
No?
Speaker 2 (51:05):
Mike just left.
Speaker 1 (51:05):
He was what why why we were?
Speaker 2 (51:07):
We were waiting for a half hour for you people?
Get busy, man, It's all right, No, they come on here,
you call the show, We get you on. So you
get in right this second is as long as you
haven't called before, okay. In the last twenty minutes seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five Seveney, I think we over
going back to the game a little bit with the rams.
Did we overestimate the well? I hope. Matthew Staffer can
(51:30):
walk storyline because he looked pretty good yesterday. Well it's
not like he was lighting them on fire. They only
scored fourteen points, that's true. Yeah, he looked good, slinging
at five yards down the field of Pooga Dakula and
then he ran for another ten and then they get tackled.
How about that bandage that went over his forehead when
he got speared. Okay, he got his cut, He got
his eyebrow cut open, and it was the bandage was
(51:52):
so big to stop the bleeding, they had to kid hem.
He couldn't get the over his helmet. Well, yeah, they
had well because they had to pad it because obviously
he's gonna wear a helmet. He's playing a violent football game.
But I mean that just shows you I so fixated that.
I just think it's intriguing that that must that thing
must have been. I mean, I know, man, Yeah, we're
of helmets since you were six. But that's where the
(52:12):
helmet goes right there, and then when you get when
you hit somebody, it's gonna press on there. So they
had to pad it up. Then they leave a couple
of times, and that's when the Texans defense did really well.
When he came back on the field.
Speaker 1 (52:22):
It wasn't good.
Speaker 2 (52:23):
Tight ends are being thrown to. Their running game was
not was really not existent. I mean, is do you
think there's any part of the defense goal?
Speaker 8 (52:29):
Man?
Speaker 2 (52:29):
We just gave up fourteen points to Matthew Stafford in
Los Angeles. We can't win that game.
Speaker 1 (52:34):
Yeah, probably, I've been saying that for a year now.
Speaker 2 (52:37):
I can't say that. You can't say that allowed team
football complimentary football. But the defense was doing their compliments.
They even got that late fumble to I mean, the
game was dead, they had they were dead in the
water and then that ball and that was an easy challenge,
by the way, that thank goodness, that was an easy challenge.
Speaker 1 (52:57):
And I don't know how you missed that call because.
Speaker 2 (53:00):
The receiver turned his shoulders headed north. Is a bang
bang play though we could see that in slow motion though, yeah,
at full speed it.
Speaker 1 (53:07):
Was pretty coo.
Speaker 2 (53:07):
All right, Mike is back with us here on seven.
I mean, Mike had nced the phone call from his office. Mike,
good morning, Hey, how you guys doing today. We're wonderful,
Thank you for calling.
Speaker 11 (53:18):
Yeah, you let a.
Speaker 12 (53:19):
Quick comment on the results of the game. I mean,
is it really surprising. I mean all all off season,
before the season, local guys and the national media. I
mean they were calling it. It was you know, the
Texans were going to win. It was they're going to
be nineteen thirteen games. The defense was gonn was going
(53:39):
to have to do the job. And they really haven't
done anything about the offensive line that I can see
from last year to make it any better. So Uh,
in the end, they had a chance to win the game. Uh,
the unfortunate fumble. But I have a feeling that's the
way it's going to be the duration of the rest
of the year. I don't see anything else it's gonna
it's going to change that unless you guys do well.
Speaker 2 (54:01):
The reality is this. We brought this up multiple times
to continue to do so. So the head of the
dog for us, Uh, you're not gonna face as good
of a defensive line, but ross you're gonna face good
defensive lines. You were playing a first play schedule. You've
still got to play Baltimore. You've got to play Kansas
City again. I totally discredit anything from the AMC South.
(54:21):
You've got to go to Seattle, who, by the way,
coughed up a lead late in that game San Francisco.
You got to play this year in Houston. I mean,
this is you just don't. You can't. You're not going
to face that front seven, but you're facing comparable front sevens.
And when you're shifting guys around and you have those
(54:42):
pre snap penalties and you have holds and you have
illegal shifts that I guess you could said, could that
be just by a byproduct of Week one and just
going getting off the russ Maybe because some of it
I think, I mean a lot of the if you
look around the NFL, there was a lot of people,
A lot of teams were scuffling. I mean you had
(55:05):
Ben Johnson went to the Bears and so they got
a new offensive coordinator in Detroit and they only scored
six points. Let's see, well, Ravens are doing good, Kyle
Shannan's pretty good. Let's see who else. There's some other
teams that were scuffling. Oh yeah, you had Bryce Young
and then was in the Panthers were supposed to light
(55:25):
things up and they only scored ten points in that game.
So there's been there's been some scuffling all around. There's
I think unders. The understarted like eleven and two or
something like that in the in the first set of games,
something somewhere in that neighborhood. So I I just don't
know how you fix what should have been fixing the offseason. Yeah,
(55:49):
Josh McDaniels and Drake May and the Patriots, they only
scored thirteen points. I mean you only allowed fourteen. Man,
that hurts. Bengals and Browns is a low scoring game.
Let's see Cardinals Saints low scoring. But you gotta get
(56:11):
But the problem is and what hurts, not what hurts,
but just what doesn't give you a whole lot of
optimism is what was the issue last year is an
issue this year with the offensive line and then the
run game with Joe Mixon out and we still don't
know how long Joe Mixon's out. Nick Chubb is not
number one running back in twenty twenty five. He's just not.
And Damien Pearce is just there's the opportunity for his explosiveness,
(56:35):
ability to protect. I mean, I can see Woody.
Speaker 1 (56:39):
Mark's getting a little bit more run.
Speaker 2 (56:41):
Yeah, he got three carries for three yards. It's not
a great it's not great, not great. All right, maybe
he can come along something called old school Houston order bannerman.
Speaker 1 (56:52):
What the hell is this? Explain, Jonathan. He was telling
me that he's the old his name is old School. Yeah,
his name is old but he used to be the
Houston oiler bannerman. If I harden correct, all right, let's
find out. Hello, mister old.
Speaker 3 (57:04):
School, Hey guys, how are y'all?
Speaker 2 (57:07):
Mister old school? How old are you?
Speaker 1 (57:08):
My ask?
Speaker 2 (57:10):
I am seventy, all right, so that would make that
qualify use an old man? Continue on, sir seventy.
Speaker 3 (57:16):
Well, I'm a reguar on the Paul Finbomb Show today.
Of course they don't know who I am. They still
don't know. But here's who I was in nineteen I'd
say nineteen ninety to ninety five. I was a Houston
oiler bannerman or a top and a tuxedo. I was
responsible for the Buddy Ron barn that was slammed by
Kerry Cash in the playoffs against the Kansas City Chief.
Speaker 7 (57:38):
Good Warn Moon.
Speaker 3 (57:41):
And I was a number one fan when the Houston cards.
When a national card show came, I was the first
one taken. As far as our picture, we all got
our own own playoff cards. But here's why I'm calling.
For thirty years I've I've been wounding to some way
apologize to the to Butt Adams, to the to the
(58:03):
hous to the Houston Orders, to all the players on
the Houston Owners, to every fan on the Houston Owners.
And I'll tell you why. Because I was a drunk.
Sometimes I'd get so drunk I'd have to wait to
all the cars left just to find my car. And
I was not a good representation of Now. Everybody loved me,
don't get me wrong. Everybody bought me drinks, but as
far as doing something for charity, as far as helping anybody,
(58:24):
I did not do that. I did not do that.
And I have I had thought thirty years, how do
I get to what? How what I do to apologize?
Well doing the through the Paul find Bomb Show and
and what's going on there, I'm gonna have a second
chance to actually help people and to tell my story
about how it all happened, and to and to make
things better this time around, and to and to actually
(58:46):
help people, you know, charities and stuff that I should
be doing. And so I just want to tell everybody
in Houston, man, I'm sorry when you looked at me
and and I say, everybody thought it was cool and
I had a good time, but I did not do
anything thing can help what was what really really mattered,
and that was people.
Speaker 2 (59:05):
Thank you, school, Thank you very much, wishing the best
on your path to healing and forgiveness.
Speaker 1 (59:12):
Yeah, I'm all.
Speaker 7 (59:13):
You know.
Speaker 2 (59:13):
They call this show the Show of Healing and Forgiveness,
and old school said, you know what, I got to
call the show.
Speaker 1 (59:19):
And do it.
Speaker 2 (59:20):
Wow, we appreciate you, old school, old school banner man.
All right, Uh, you can't. You can't even hang banners
anymore because they're all corporate, corporate logo and stuff.
Speaker 3 (59:32):
Right.
Speaker 2 (59:33):
If you want to bring a banner to a tech
to a Texans game or astros, are right, you can't
even do it, right, So you gotta be signed guy
banner Guy's gone. Yeah, I guess so, I don't know.
I mean he did pull a Kerry Cash on us
against the buddy Ryan Banner. I mean that's I remember that,
(59:54):
being an old school Order fan. Okay, thank you very much,
Old school all right, Uh, to tell the truth is
up next, gentlemen. There are fourth takes I've got coming
your way, thank you. Three of them are the truth,
one is a lie. I want you to be able
to figure it out seven one three two, one two
five seven ninety seven one three two, one two five
(01:00:17):
seven nine zero. I'm getting massive texting people that listen
to the show about old school guy, and it's probably
just one. I'll show you who it is coming back.
Speaker 8 (01:00:37):
Tell me I never know?
Speaker 1 (01:00:39):
Why did you tell me? But I do?
Speaker 2 (01:00:52):
Ladies and gentlemen. This is a weekly segment where I
give my colleagues Rossfield, Areal and Jonathan Allen opportunity to
listen to my four sports takes. Usually they're amazing. In
this case will be the same three of them. I
believe one I do not believe. It's up to you, guys,
(01:01:13):
figure out which of the four I do not believe. So, Jonathan,
I have four, three I believe. How many do I
not believe? One lie?
Speaker 1 (01:01:24):
Just one?
Speaker 2 (01:01:25):
Just one? Rossy, how many do I believe?
Speaker 1 (01:01:28):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:01:28):
I was versus blending to some tweet. Sorry, what what's
your name? My name is Matt? What show is this?
Speaker 1 (01:01:33):
It's Matt Thomas showed Ross what is this? This is
called to tell the truth?
Speaker 2 (01:01:36):
Okay? How many truths? Three? One lie? One lie? Okay,
one lie?
Speaker 1 (01:01:42):
All right, here we go.
Speaker 2 (01:01:43):
Sorry, some guy was trying to tell us the old line, like,
we're blaming the old line unfairly. Who read that out?
Who is it? So it's the old line's fault that
Darry coughed the ball up late, or the secondary can't
stop one man? They gave up fourteen points in score nine.
Let's move on, folks. Sorry, go ahead. That's basically what
(01:02:06):
I said. Don't worry about all right, three one one
lie one line one lie.
Speaker 1 (01:02:14):
Four three truths. Here we go.
Speaker 5 (01:02:18):
Number one.
Speaker 2 (01:02:18):
Okay, got it? Sorry, Nico Collins largely forgotten about yesterday. Right, Yes,
need not worry, my friends. The Buccaneers defense is coming.
Nico Collins and c. J. Stroud are going to build
their relationship to new levels. Nico Collins will have one
(01:02:38):
hundred yards or more next Monday night at Energy Stadium
against the Buccaneers.
Speaker 1 (01:02:44):
Wow, okay, okay, number two number better dose.
Speaker 2 (01:02:52):
The Texans offensive line issues will not improve. Thus, Nick Cassario,
we'll do something he has never done since taking over
this team. He will go get an offensive lineman before
the trade deadline that will immediately come in here and
(01:03:12):
take over. So the gentlemen that are here now get ready.
You're getting a new offensive lineman. I can't tell you when, okay,
but my belief is this offensive line is not getting
any better. Okay, They're gonna make a trade and you're
gonna see a new offensive lineman here at some point
this season.
Speaker 8 (01:03:30):
All right.
Speaker 2 (01:03:32):
Number three, we have a lot of people that call
Ross and myself and Ross. You're kind of getting worn
out on Twitter about this about the hitting coaches. They
didn't say jack on Saturday. They did not. They scored
eleven runs. Every organization does a thorough staff evaluation at
the end of each year. They're going to make it
(01:03:54):
all They're going to make a hitting coach change. They might,
whether it's they're through their fault of their own or
just we got to change the vibe, or the fact
the team was two inconsistent offensively, which really is not
their fault. Again. Hitting coach, to me are the most
overrated in terms of success and failure. But the Astros
are going to make some coaching changes for that.
Speaker 1 (01:04:14):
And number four base I've always saw on the offensive
line yesterday, everybody, if you're on a Davis Mills jersey
like my son still does, you can wear it to
two games because he's going to start at least two
games for the Texans this season.
Speaker 2 (01:04:29):
I never know, because there's no way, no chance, no
how CJ is going to stay upright for sixteen games
with that offensive line sacking him and hitting him the
way they did yesterday. Okay, so the four takes, Nico
Collins bounces back, I'll have one hundred yards against the Bucks.
Nick Cassia will make an offensive line trade before the
(01:04:51):
end of the season. I would not be surprised that
the Astros make a hitting coach change at the end
of the year. Not that I'm endorsing it, not that
I want to, because again, those guys do their thing
and I have no I have no opinion on whatsoever.
And Davis Mills get ready to start two games this
year because CJ. Stride is going to get hit and
get hard and I'm gonna miss time because that offensive
(01:05:11):
line will do him no favors. What's the four? Am
I not telling the truth? I was feeling, Jonathan, this
is actually a pretty good week for Matt. I'm not
gonna lie. I kind of thank you. H Yeah, it's
actually didn't come up with a bunch of horrible stuff
like he normally does. Yeah, and it's only very impressive.
(01:05:34):
The ego Collins could have one hundred yards. But that's
kind of a bold statement. That doesn't mean Matt doesn't
believe it. That's true. I'm mister bold. You know that
Matt hates Nick Cassio, so I don't know if he
really believes would I hate Nick Cassio, So I don't
know if he really believes that he's going to make
a trade. I don't hate Nick Cassio.
Speaker 10 (01:05:51):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:05:51):
I'm not pleased with his offensive line choices.
Speaker 1 (01:05:53):
In Texas didn't get any like wasn't even focused about
old line entire offseason. It felt like so, I don't know,
seeing that they.
Speaker 2 (01:06:00):
Drafted a guy and they hired I mean they signed
Cam Robinson.
Speaker 3 (01:06:03):
I mean.
Speaker 2 (01:06:07):
That he was gonna do.
Speaker 1 (01:06:09):
Uh hitting coach could very well change I do.
Speaker 2 (01:06:11):
I feel like Matt does believe that. I mean both.
I want to say both guys contracts are over at
the end of this year. Man, Matt does hate the
offensive line he want he loves Davis Mills. I don't
love Davis Mills. I'll go with two. Was two long
time that that that Cataria will make a trade for
an offensive line from the end of the year.
Speaker 1 (01:06:33):
M I think your lie is the hitting coaches. I
don't think you believe that they are going to get leave,
especially after this season with all the injuries and everything.
Speaker 2 (01:06:43):
Okay, so you say the hitting coaches stay, ross you
say that I do not believe that Cassero will make
a trade. All right, here we go.
Speaker 1 (01:06:52):
I do believe that c J.
Speaker 2 (01:06:54):
Stroud's in serious trouble, and I do expect Davis Mills
to start two games this year. Okay, I expect to
start none. Okay. Number two, I think the Astros, because
of public pressure, are going to make some moves in here.
Speaker 1 (01:07:08):
Hitting coaches.
Speaker 2 (01:07:10):
It's look, it's whether it's fair or not.
Speaker 1 (01:07:13):
I don't like it.
Speaker 2 (01:07:14):
But it's not fair though. We talk about it and
it's fine whatever. It's gonna be up to the players.
I mean, if Josel Tuva and Carlos Correa say, hey, no,
these guys are our guys and they need to stay,
then I think they'll stay.
Speaker 1 (01:07:24):
But we'll see Joe spot of two. Don't forget how
loyal he is. Remember Joe Spota.
Speaker 2 (01:07:28):
Also Gary pettis longtime third base coach Gonzo after last year.
That's true.
Speaker 1 (01:07:32):
It can happen.
Speaker 2 (01:07:33):
I'm not saying it's not good. I'm not saying this
is not your craziest take. Thank you very much. It
could very well happen. Just to get another voice in
the room, I would have believed Nico Collins had one
hundred yards, but I looked at Atlanta's receiving mixed yesterday.
They had one one hundred yard receiver. It was Bijon
Robinson out of the back. But you know the Bjeon
Robinson for Atlanta, Jon whatever. Bijon had one hundred and
(01:07:57):
twenty four yards in total offense, only twenty four on
the ground and one hundred receiving. There is no Texans
running back that's going to receive one hundred yards. Their
highest receiver yesterday for Atlanta was Kyle Pitts at seven
for fifty nine. Nico's not going to get to one
hundred yards. So I do believe it. Nick Casserio is
going to make a trade, okay, on offensive line. See
(01:08:19):
that's what I would have chosen if I thought I
was dealing with a reasonable person. So you're saying I'm unreasonable,
but yeah, that's good me or no, oh, okay, shure.
I was a confused. This is a good this is
a good week. I really didn't know what's one. Thank
you very much, thank you so you're so pleased with me,
which is so rare. And that, my friends, was to
(01:08:44):
tell the truth. I loved forty four. We got the
news at noon, coming up. I picked the song bad Day.
It was pretty good. So it was just bad day.
It was bad day for the astros too, righte and
you think about it, bad day for a lot of people.
It was bad day for Oklahoma State Universe. Mind. God,
you went to Eugene National TV two thirty on CBS
(01:09:06):
and you got your ass kicked. What was the final
score on that? I missed it. I want to say
sixty six to three something like that. Was like, wait, man,
we used to call these awesome SEC games. Now we're
getting the number two Big ten game of the week,
and is what you're giving under three? I was off? Sorry,
what was my gun? Do you have to say? In
that postgame presser? By the way, I'm looking at this
Phillys Karen Maarn was a crazy moment for the week guy.
Speaker 1 (01:09:30):
His reaction was horrific.
Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
He well, I understand you got somebody aggressively pointing your
head and you want the whole ordeal to be over.
So he looks, he just kids. He gives her the ball,
and he's like, all right, whatever, just get out of
my face. It's a friggin baseball. God, Philly's Karen. I
understand everybody's like, stand your ground, but it's like, I
I empathize with the guy because I'm kind of like
that too, just non confrontational totally.
Speaker 1 (01:09:54):
I don't, I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
I'm just saying his mannerisms were just not the most
He's just like, what are you talking about, lady? Okay,
you want the base ball? Take the frigging baseball out
of my kid's hand. Whatever.
Speaker 1 (01:10:02):
It's a frigging baseball, Philly. That's how it would have been.
Let someone take a see. I know, Jonathan, we know
your confrontational, but we know you throw French fries at
the Windy's workers his hands. He was like having a
nervous Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:10:15):
No, was that all about? My son's right here? I'm
going to sell you. No, no, no, no no. And
I also but it's also easy for everyone on their
couch to say that's how they would have reacted. No, no,
I would have socked her in the throat. I don't
have the issue with him grabbing the ball and giving
it to Phillies Karen. Yeah, I have the reaction of
his hands, like having a jerking motion. Oh you think
he was about to throw hands? No, I don't know
what he was doing having a breakdown. That's the problem
(01:10:39):
I have. So Philly's Karen beat it eleven six on
Sports Talk seven eighty. All right, So I went back
and looked at Philly's Karen. A couple of you ever said, Hey,
he was putting his hands up because he was startled
by this woman walking over to him. And maybe that's
the case.
Speaker 1 (01:10:54):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:10:54):
I don't know for sure, but his hands were twitching
and and maybe if I'm in that spot, my hands
would be twitchy too. I've had You've had people come
up to you before and argumentative.
Speaker 7 (01:11:08):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:11:08):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:11:09):
Look, the bottom line is he did. The dad is
not to blame on any of this. The dad did
the good thing. The dad said, listen, bitch, here's the ball,
Go get away from me. Yeah, he's kind of see
he's just startled. He's like what So maybe he's more
startled than anything else. Yeah, but it was almost like
it was like me and the dance. He thought he
was about the soccer one. I don't know. First of all,
(01:11:32):
nice hair, Phillies, Karen God, double shades up there. That's good.
What else I want to say?
Speaker 1 (01:11:40):
Oh uh?
Speaker 2 (01:11:41):
And then the guy hit the home run for the Phillies,
met the kid after the game, gave him a bat
and a ball. So that was great, and the dad's
you know, dad did the dad did the most important
thing you want the day you want the ball, you
middle age old hag. Here you go. I can call
her middle aged hag, right, I guess. So there's a
lot more things I'd like to call her worse, but
(01:12:01):
I can't do that on air. I'll take you off air, Okay,
Jonathan thinking the exact same thing. I am no, exactly, Jonathan, Yeah,
same page, same page, Thank you, Jansen. So yeah, the
the the the handshaking was like it was like he
was thinking, what was the thing they used to exercise her.
We used to talk about on the show where you
move it up and down. Oh yeah, yes, I know,
(01:12:25):
but don't move your hands. Don't move your hand like that.
I'm getting very uncomfortable. It's like this thing the show's
saint now that's he's double hand in it. What's that
thing called shake? Waight shake? It was like he had
a shake weight in his hand. No, he didn't have
a shake weight, but his hands are moving up and
(01:12:45):
now startled fixated on this year. It's so weird. I'm
trying to give detail on me. You man, thank you? Yes,
you talking about the man in his air shake weights.
Some guys do, uh air guitar. Some guys do air
shake weights. Yeah, I would have. I would have out
(01:13:06):
of gone with a backslap, got out the way. You
wouldn't have hit her, like excuse me?
Speaker 1 (01:13:12):
Who are you again?
Speaker 2 (01:13:14):
So most importantly, shout out to the dad he handled it.
He's like, you want the ball? That damn bad? Here
it is and now my son's crying, and then he
can go back and explain it did work out good
for the dad. Good. Didn't they get a ball from J.
T rail Muto or something like that?
Speaker 1 (01:13:30):
I just are you listening to a different show to.
Speaker 2 (01:13:33):
Know what I was looking at these highlights of the Yankees? Uh,
who did you.
Speaker 1 (01:13:37):
Get a ball from the kid that the guy had
the home run?
Speaker 2 (01:13:40):
They wouldn't met him out for the game.
Speaker 1 (01:13:43):
That's said the same thing James on seven nine and
hello James.
Speaker 7 (01:13:51):
Yeah, shout out to for winning their games.
Speaker 2 (01:13:55):
Yeah, nice victory and in a cover and a cover
seven three at the half.
Speaker 1 (01:14:00):
By the way, Yeah, what.
Speaker 7 (01:14:01):
Did you think of the Rice uniforms?
Speaker 2 (01:14:03):
I mean, I have one Columbia their version of Columbia blue.
It doesn't matter, but I mean, you know, it is
what it is.
Speaker 7 (01:14:10):
We've had enough this older stuff. But that was my opinion.
Speaker 2 (01:14:13):
Yeah, we should let go of the oilers. I don't disagree.
The orders died when they left, and I don't have
a football team and don't and we'll never have one again.
Speaker 1 (01:14:20):
It's fine.
Speaker 2 (01:14:21):
The like North Carolina uniform they're more like Lawrence Taylor
North Carolina nineteen seventy six. Honestly, you know, I know,
I see what they were trying to do.
Speaker 7 (01:14:29):
Yeah, as far as the Texans game, didn't they seem
like it looked like a team that had never played together,
never no continuity or anything.
Speaker 2 (01:14:37):
Well, the offensive line certainly hadn't. I mean, that's for sure.
And you have a new receiving corps too. There were
two guys out there that hadn't played two.
Speaker 7 (01:14:44):
Rookies exactly, and that's that's why I think preseason should
be more than just let's see what we got. You
should have the starters out on the field so then
get some kind of rhythm going in My opinion opinion.
Speaker 1 (01:14:55):
Is I get it.
Speaker 7 (01:14:55):
That's all I got.
Speaker 2 (01:14:56):
Thank you, James. I'll say this did. Does the reason
fix that problem is you go ask, go tell a
coach put your starters out there for a half, and
they're gonna be like you're high on the night. Sean
McVay doesn't play the starters at all in the preseason.
Matthew Stafford did not take a snap at all during
the preseason, not a single snap. Yeah, well he didn't
like the world on fire.
Speaker 1 (01:15:14):
They looked good enough.
Speaker 2 (01:15:16):
Nope. He and Pukinakua seemed to seem to have some rapport.
It's they just don't want to risk injury the long season,
especially seventeen games now, where's on everyone. No one's one
hundred percent healthy by the end of it. So they
tried to shoulder the burden as much as possible. And
(01:15:38):
by the way, we said this last year, we said
it two years before that, We'll say it again. For
the future. Ross Week seven of the NFL will look
significantly in crisper. Then we will see in week one
that that's that's that's just how it goes with everyone.
I mean, you have offensive defensive coordinators hired and fired everywhere,
all over the place, all over the league. There's a
lot of turnover, even with head coaches as well. And
(01:15:59):
then you don't get the preseason, and then practices are
limited the amount because of the collective bargain agreement and
all that type of stuff. It's just it's the way
of the world.
Speaker 1 (01:16:07):
All right.
Speaker 2 (01:16:07):
The Texans had a bad day. Will tay you more
about that in a moment after we tell you about
Big City Wing is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross
enough care And he said calamity. Oh that spelled personal.
(01:16:33):
It was quite calamitous. I was like, all right, they're
gonna have to get a touchdown, and Harland, they could
be up three. Harley can just put together phrases that
just make you go Everything he says is memorable. Respector
Andrew Cantlan or Spiro Needas. But you don't go, wow,
(01:16:54):
I can't believe he just said that, or how he
was able to phrase it. He said, yeah, he's he
phrases things perfectly. He's like almost it's like melodic or
even symphonic, the way his cadence up and down. And
he's very good. Yeah, it's I mean, I he and
he's such an awesome human being too. Now he's being
pulled in five hundred different directions and he's in the
(01:17:17):
sixty year old category now, so I don't know how
he does it. Yeah, he gets some things wrong. I
think was it Jalen He called it Jalen Higgins or
a Jalen Reed or Jayden wait Jadac. I can't even
get it right, Jaden Higgins or Jalen No, No, IM
not ripping up.
Speaker 1 (01:17:35):
I'm just kidding.
Speaker 2 (01:17:36):
So let me just tell you how crazy. So here's
here's his schedule. And this is part of me is envious.
Part of me is like, I don't even think I
could be able to do it. He called the Thursday
night game Dallas Philadelphia on radio. Okay, where was that game? Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:17:55):
She's Philadelphia?
Speaker 2 (01:17:56):
Correct? Where was yesterday's game? Los Angeles? So Friday gets
on a plane. Yeah, flies three thousand miles out of direction,
first class, Yeah, but still still a flight. He's doing
the Monday night game tonight. Where's that game? Who is
it Vikings and who Chicago Bears? Tell me where it
(01:18:19):
is Chicago. Okay, it's a lot of travel. Yeah, he's
done this for like thirty Tuesday, probably at home, sleeping Wednesday,
sleeping Thursday.
Speaker 1 (01:18:31):
He might be working.
Speaker 2 (01:18:32):
Well, he doesn't do anything until the NBA. Okay, he'll
do those Amazon Friday night games. Yes, I mean again,
I don't know how he does it. I am ridiculously
mvs of him. First of all, he's got one of
the greatest broadcasters in the history of sports broadcasting. But
he's able to pull it off. And I'm very, very impressed,
and he does a great job. Yeah, Iron Eagle, same thing.
(01:18:52):
I mean, these guys are getting the big gigs because
they're the best at what they do. I love JJ
Watt in the broadcast movie Yesterday. I thought he was
a he was in a perfect spot. He's he's gonna
be there. Greg Olsen for CBS recently retired player, has
the I mean the acumen to do it. Smart, works hard, Okay,
learning that doesn't take his status for granted. He's like
(01:19:16):
Tony Ramill, get the hell out of here. I'll take
number one spot before you know it. Ladies, gentlemen, twelve
six at the time, gets time for us to get
you the news zet noon. And with that we go
to the James Brown of Local Hues Sports and Broadcasting.
Speaker 1 (01:19:33):
Wait, we did that on Friday. I'm out at James
Brown songs. You are the on the night train.
Speaker 2 (01:19:39):
I stay correct, I was thinking about CBS. You are
the Kurt Menafee of Houston Sports. All Right, we mentioned
that Texans lose fourteen to nine to the Los Angeles Rams.
They start the season, oh and one CJ Strau three
words or less mat or fewer c J. Stroud nineteen
(01:20:00):
into twenty seven hundred and eighty eight yards, no touchdowns,
one interception. How would you describe it?
Speaker 3 (01:20:06):
Him?
Speaker 2 (01:20:06):
Are the team him good? Not great? Hmm oh, I'll
go just okay. I'll use two words, Nick Chubb thirteen
Union to say just oki dokie. Then I said or
less or fewer. Okay. Anyway, So the Texans lose to
(01:20:27):
the Los Angeles Rams, as I said, But the big
story coming out today, Matthew, that we talked about earlier
on the show. Apparently Karrie McNair is not done fighting
for the Houston Texans. He has retained the services of
famed lawyer, or you can call him infamed lawyer Tony
(01:20:50):
Busby and a letter dated September eighth. This from PO
Football Talk as they obtained the letter as well, Busby
requesting mediation from Commissioner Roger Goodell on behalf of Carry McNair.
Five page document accused of the League and Cal McNair
of engineering the ouster of Carry McNair from the Texans
(01:21:10):
and other McNair family business interests. So it sounds like
it's more than just him getting raked over the colls
for not supporting mama. It was, Hey, you're kicking me
out of the family business. I want some of that money.
The letter vows, absent a resolution, Buzzby and Carry McNair
will proceed in court and not in the NFL's preferred
form of arbitration, ultimately controlled by Goodell, citing recent rulings
(01:21:34):
in cases brought on by John Gruden and Brian Flores
striking down the NFL's efforts to compel arbitration. Now, let
me ask you this question. We are maybe months, if
not years away from this getting settled. Yeah, how juicy
do you think this is going to get?
Speaker 3 (01:21:48):
One?
Speaker 2 (01:21:49):
That sounds pretty dang juicy carry McNair's case centers around
a March twenty twenty four letter of a letter agreement
regarding the termination of his employment relationship with the McNair
family businesses.
Speaker 7 (01:22:03):
HM.
Speaker 2 (01:22:05):
Of course, the juicy part of this read that this
is the part I want you all to listen to
very carefully from Tony Busby. It is a widely known
fact in Houston that cal McNair is unqualified to be
an owner's representative.
Speaker 1 (01:22:23):
The NFL knows it as well.
Speaker 2 (01:22:27):
Indeed, despite what he is placed on certain websites, cal
McNair is not even a college graduate yet. Cal McNair
interestingly now claims that he obtained an NBA from the
prestigious Rice University, although the Rice Administration Office has stated
quite clearly that an individual lacking an undergraduate degree is
(01:22:49):
ineligible to res receive a Rice NBA. And in the
parentheses is where it really gets good too. Perhaps an
exception was made for cal McNair to do it a
well timed charitable donation by his parents. We'll figure that
out in due course. So I'll ask this very simple question.
Does cal McNair strike you as someone who got a
(01:23:11):
master's degree from Rice friggin University. Yeah, that would be no. Well,
I mean, wouldn't it take like one second to figure
out where he got his undergrad if he went to Texas?
But did he get it? But he did get a degree?
I mean everything that I've read online says he did.
(01:23:32):
But I clearly Tony Busby is refuting that. So here's
what you would do if you really want to be
an investigative reporter. You call a Texan and say what
year did Cow graduate with graduate in? And what degree
did he get? And they would say, here's what he did.
This could be solved, frankly, very quickly. Not that it's
a huge part of the deal, but it goes along
(01:23:52):
the lines of the NFL's covering for basically an owner
that shouldn't be an owner because of his last name
and last name only.
Speaker 1 (01:23:58):
M hm.
Speaker 2 (01:24:02):
This sounds like a mess. And if he's got could
this saying about having not one but two degrees?
Speaker 1 (01:24:09):
But could this be?
Speaker 2 (01:24:10):
Could this be the opposite of this is a really
really disgruntled, bitter, jealous brother that he was loved more
than that Cow has loved more my mom and dad
than maybe Carrie was. Man, I guess and Look, Tony
Busby has success, but he doesn't bat a thousand.
Speaker 1 (01:24:27):
No, he does not jay Z slap them around. Yeah,
got that stuff dismissed. So it's not a foregone conclusion.
But on the initial premise, could the NFL be covering
up for cal it's certainly in the realm of possibility.
Speaker 2 (01:24:47):
Well, you know, if he says he has a rice
INBA and he doesn't, is that a is it incumbent
on the other owners to have investigated that? That isn't
worthy of grounds of saying you are manipulating the system
and then covering up lying your degrees. That's embarrassing, But
it's not a reason to pull somebody's leadership off of
a committee. Yeah, but terminating him from the family businesses
(01:25:10):
and then having Janis sign over the team. Yeah, that yes,
And if the NFL, here's the thing, the NFL has
no business doing that. They should not be involved in
their in the McNair family business. And they probably wanted
everything to go away and everything to get you know,
expedited and get it there. Let's get let.
Speaker 1 (01:25:29):
Rubber stant this bad boy, let's get it all over with.
Speaker 2 (01:25:31):
We want to think about it. Yep. And that my friends,
the news and Noon Robert wants talking about Jimmy Johnson.
Speaker 7 (01:25:37):
What.
Speaker 2 (01:25:37):
Yeah, they retired Jimmy and he's full of He wasn't
on Fox NFL Sunday yesterday. Oh, I didn't notice because
I don't watch those shows.
Speaker 1 (01:25:48):
Yeah, I'm not.
Speaker 2 (01:25:49):
A big pregame watcher. I watch fantasy football now if
I'm watching any pre game. Thank you for that. Good. Well,
it didn't help me against the Toros. You know what,
do you notice how I'm not even bragging about it?
I know, you know why, because I'm just I just
don't on my team. Maybe I just caught a break.
Oh looks good. Look team squads look good, Mattie. I'll
give you till week five. Oh yeah, so you're nobody
(01:26:12):
likes victory. Uh, I'm so if I'm four, No, I'm
in full bragged ochs mo is what you're saying? How
can that feels fair? Week one fantasy victory lap is
not good? Otherwise I'd be victor oly lapping.
Speaker 1 (01:26:22):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:26:22):
Doctr rote for telling me I'm dumb for not drafting
Jamir Gibbs. Mmm, he was just pedestrian. By the way,
The whole Lions were pedestrian. Yesterday, take one Barkley was better.
But you can't take a week one victory leap. No,
you cannot. Under zero circumstances, you may not. Seven one

if you had a business class with cal McNair at Rice,
we'd like to hear from you as well.
Speaker 1 (01:27:08):
That we we're gonna hear from no one.
Speaker 2 (01:27:15):
I mean, he sat in the back, took notes. Seriously,
this is this, this example, We're gonna We're gonna go
to Roberts a second.
Speaker 13 (01:27:22):
This is.
Speaker 2 (01:27:24):
This story is not a typical of other multi billion
dollar families. It's not I guess, I mean, I guess
nothing's coming on my off the top of my head
about some kind of power struggle. I mean, does this happen?
Speaker 1 (01:27:35):
I don't even know.
Speaker 2 (01:27:36):
I mean, does every member of the family get along?
Does that a member of the probably not of the Chrysler.
Speaker 1 (01:27:43):
Family get along.
Speaker 2 (01:27:44):
I mean, I don't know out of the forge. I mean,
you're telling me that every sibling of every child of
a of a multi billion dollar operation is on the
same intellect level and same work ethic level. Now, of
course not, it's literally. This is literally succession. It's what
this is. People are saying it's loosely based off of
(01:28:06):
certain families. It's probably very largely based off of the
McNair family. Janice and Bob frankly loved cal Moore than
the other kids.
Speaker 1 (01:28:16):
And Carrie's feeling it.
Speaker 2 (01:28:19):
Carrie's like, if you're gonna kick me out, you're gonna'm
I'm gonna take you down with me. Well, and I'm
gonna have my attorney and call you a buffoone Jannis
probably doesn't like when you go to court to call
her incompetent. That didn't help out, That's for sure. That'd
make the Thanksgiving dinner a little awkward. I wonder how
did they even break. There's no way they break, brother,
there's I buried. There is no communication between any of them.
(01:28:41):
You just hired Tony Busby and you're suing your brother
in the NFL because you believe he is inadequate to
own a team. And oh, by the way, you're thinking,
you believe it's cost you sixty million dollars at least,
and he's talking about punitive damages on top of that.
M all right, wow, at least the Texans offensive will
(01:29:02):
be fixed this way? Yeah, well probably not. It can
get better, let's going.
Speaker 1 (01:29:06):
Because discuss offensive line is going to be better.
Speaker 2 (01:29:09):
Who's in you know, NFL dot COM's Lance's airlines seems
to be thinking that the offensive line will be okay, okay, Well,
then he's putting his name on it. Yeah, I mean
he tweeted it, okay, so on his account, then he's
in trouble. Then on his account, I'd use it. I
would use a burner. I'd go with like O line
(01:29:29):
Texans for life. Guys. I don't know if you knew this.
His dad was a coach in the NFL. No way, yes,
an offensive line coaches, So yeah, I mean he knows
his stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:29:38):
Robert on seven ninty Hello Robert.
Speaker 13 (01:29:42):
Hey, guys, Hey, hey, I don't even know how it's
capable of you know, tam either, but uh, the reason
I called was Jimmy Johnson retiring, and uh, I was
just kind of throwing this out there because he's a
good announcer and everything.
Speaker 3 (01:29:59):
He's real and everything, and I was wondering what would
happen if he went back to the Cowboys.
Speaker 7 (01:30:04):
I mean, you know, wouldn't that be something to do?
Speaker 2 (01:30:08):
To do? What to like sit in the stands and
relax the coach to be the head to be the
head NFL coach of the Dallas Cowboys, Robert, he's eighty
two years old. Well you know, no, I do know,
I know, I know, I absolutely know, one hundred percent.
I know at this point, Robert.
Speaker 13 (01:30:27):
Okay, I just thought I'd be great thaking for the Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (01:30:30):
Oh yeah, that I'll fire him up. Eighty two year
old coach with an eighty year old general manager. That
makes puny of sense. All right, thank you, Robert, We'll
see you later. Lordie put Billy Waggert off as the coordinator.
Do you know that when that said Jimmy Johnson on
the line, I knew exactly what was coming. You did,
because that's why I had no idea. I want to
(01:30:51):
look at his age, I said, you know what, I'm
gonna make sure I know how old he is. So
I was impressed that you knew off the bat. You
should have just said you don't it. I was like, wow,
I didn't know that right off the Nope, no chance. No,
I know the dome. I know you guys so well.
I know you better than I know myself. Sometimes I
was blind. I gotta be honest. I saw it say
(01:31:12):
Jimmy Johnson is.
Speaker 1 (01:31:13):
Like, what the hell did Jimmy Johnson do?
Speaker 2 (01:31:15):
Because you were thinking maybe he's missing five or I
met him over the weekend. No, No, I knew there
was a what Now The question was gonna be was
he going to say to come back to coach the
Texans or come to coach the Cowboys? And he went
with the Cowboys. Well, you know, I really love most
(01:31:36):
of y'all. No, I love ninety percent of you. Ten
of you percent you can go get in a car wreck.
What was I gonna say? Oh, Pete Carroll seventy three.
I think he's not eighty two though, No, yeah, seventy
three is accurate. He will be in a week, he'll
(01:31:57):
be seventy four. Yeah, data, pee care. You know that
kind of gives me pause, and it should give a
pause for all of us. That we can do things.
Like when I was growing up, once you got to
sixty five, it was like, you have to retire. You're done,
You're done. You can't teach, you can't coach, You certainly
can't fly an airplane.
Speaker 1 (01:32:14):
Blah blah blah blah.
Speaker 2 (01:32:15):
Now you've got well, I mean, say what you will,
and we'll let you say what you will off air.
We have a mid seventies president, late seventies president. We
have a seventy three year old NFL head coach. We
have an eighty year old general manager. How old is Potus?
I want to say, seventy seven or seventy eight, somewhere
in that range. Seventy nine, he's seventy. The lid of
(01:32:35):
the free world is seventy nine. Oh lordy, Joey B
was too old? I mean, can we all right?
Speaker 7 (01:32:40):
Not?
Speaker 2 (01:32:41):
Do you want to go to the I got an
agent's with us here. This is ages Rossfield, Roreal seventy Okay.
How old was Joey B? He was like in his
eighties almost right? Yeah, good god, it's too old. I
wouldn't want it. Like, give me this, give me twenty
more years, give me the seventies term limits on the
(01:33:04):
show in general. Well, yeah, on the show actually term
limits that I have fifteen years actually on this show.
Speaker 1 (01:33:09):
So you're over so incredibly rude. God, I hate you,
I really do. That's fine, I'm used to it, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:33:19):
Let's see. Okay, back to fewer things from yesterday again, Texans,
pardon me for not being ignorant to the fact that
how does a line that was of a concern before
the start of the season that performed just as expected
(01:33:40):
as supposed to all of a sudden unless again, unless
Tennessee doesn't have a front four that's going to dominate,
Unless you're saying that Jacksonville doesn't, unless you're saying Kansas
City's D line, unless you're saying I to me, it's
not about them getting better and getting more acclimated because
they are who they are.
Speaker 1 (01:33:57):
No, No, it's.
Speaker 2 (01:33:59):
They had a lot of issues with communication with some
free runners and happening. You can get better and more
cohesive when you shuffle things around literally before the game starts,
and then guys go down and you have to shuffle
and you're you're changing the center as well. Yeah, you're
you're going to be You're just gonna be a bit
(01:34:20):
of a preparation deficit, which it seemed like they were.
They just weren't good enough and they can bounce back. Well,
you know what, you have that pro football focus, right,
and you told me that they what do you want
to see? They're they're grades. No, they won't greet until
after tonight, correct, because I game they might have some up.
(01:34:43):
I can go look, and you wanted to because you
had brought up because your captive optimism with them. You
wanted the Texans to be the twenty fifth round in
the top twenty five. Baby, So can is there a
way you can look at sea how they're doing so far?
I don't know if these are the grades from this
year yet. I don't think they are. So yeah, I
think maybe they'll come out tonight, okay tomorrow on the show.
(01:35:04):
I cannot wait to hear what the grade is because
all you've asked for is top twenty five mm hm
and oh the rankings. The rankings will probably come out
later this week. But as far as grades of them
and as an individual players, I think those normally they
might even be out now, but I don't see them
posted yet. So why don't they Why don't you stick?
Arion terrassary at one spot and let them be. Is
(01:35:27):
it because Cam Robinson can't play right tackle?
Speaker 8 (01:35:29):
Is it there?
Speaker 2 (01:35:29):
I mean, that's obviously the reason why when Cam came
in didn't want to I mean they signed up to
be a left tackle and that's what he's been. Yeah,
all right, a little on the Astros when we come
back seven one, three, two two, five, seven nine. If
you want to join in the conversation, we are open
line today. Anything you want to get to, whether it
be the gutty, gritty gritty performance for the University of
Texas against San Jose State, nice win, four first half
(01:35:52):
touchdowns for Arch. Do you watch any of the OU
game on Saturday? Didn't watch a lick?
Speaker 1 (01:35:56):
Yeah, nor did I.
Speaker 2 (01:35:57):
But apparently, oh you is looking a lot better than
people thought they were going to. Yes, you know quarterback
what's his name of tear Yep. The portal can help, John, Yeah, yeah,
the portal can portal can help. And shout out to
South Florida. Here, Cougar's got a portal quarterback. We did,
all we did was still seventy five yard touchdown passes
in the second half. Let's go Cougars, Cougars and Colorado
(01:36:21):
this Friday and apparently already thirty thousand tickets are sold.
Think about maybe building a third fourth Dexas Stadium. Wow,
thirty thousand, that's huge. Well, it's because you, you text
people don't care about anything but your school and don't
want to really support great football in our city. And
that's that's funny on you seven one three two one
two five seven nine zeros. I think we're in a
(01:36:47):
weird part of our sports life schedule twelve thirty five.
It is the Matt Thomas Show. Ross seven one three
two one two five seven ninety so Rossie, the Astros
are playing this intense, really important series of the Rangers
doesn't not an end all, but it could have growne
really really well or really really bad a game of
(01:37:09):
the standings, and now they're two and a half in
front of Seattle, who beat them Braves yesterday. And then
the Rangers gained a game on the Astros yesterday. But
Friday night, you got your high school football, you got
your volleyball for those that do that, you got your
end of the week. Let's go have a happy hour.
Saturday were immersed in college football side of the NFL
(01:37:30):
took place It's almost like you if you needed a
little respite away from the Astros, you had some excuses, right, Yeah,
the frustrations. You could point your attentions elsewhere. Yeah, to
the Texans in the NFL. Yes, and and the frustrations
(01:37:50):
there from the frustrations making the jokes like is anybody
in Houston ever gonna score points or runs? Both are
applicable for sure. Look this week, it's why it's almost
like the mid week games are gonna get a little
more sexier because we'll have they'll have the exclusive once
the weekend's going. You got other things going on. This
(01:38:13):
Toronto series scares me. George Springer is crushing the baseball,
yes he is. And the Toronto Blue Jays like to
score lots of runs. Guess who doesn't like to score
a lot of runs, largely the Houston Astros. Yeah, they're
gonna bounce back, Matt. They scored eleven on Saturday. They
did eleven and nothing nice win. Were you a little
(01:38:36):
wigging out when Luis car See who was a little
supposed to start yesterday, No, did not start, starts tomorrow.
It's all good, yep.
Speaker 1 (01:38:45):
Not wigging out fromber was good enough. Seven innings of
four run ball.
Speaker 2 (01:38:50):
I did stay up late to watch the Friday night
extra inning game. Felt okay in the tenth, felt a
little wheezy in the eleventh. Lance mccutters in the twelfth.
I was on that post game. I've been pretty lucky
all year long, but I've had a little run of
extra innings here lately. I don't like it. How are
(01:39:11):
they calls on Friday night? Well, the game went so long,
it was a Friday night. I think most people were
on out of the things, we got only a couple
of calls, which I was thankful for. Do you think
Lance mccutters realizes he's on the very end of the bench.
I think he should.
Speaker 1 (01:39:28):
He was the last one to come out in that game,
and then he gave up the game.
Speaker 2 (01:39:33):
I mean it was the unearned runner. It is what
it is. He walked the first guy. Uh, I really?
And I mean this he needs a change scenery. Oh yeah,
Florida Complex legue. Well, I mean with Paul, you can
do one of two things with Lance's career. You can
(01:39:55):
say he's washed well, or you can say you what
it's been here. He's been rehabbing a long time. It
hasn't been great. You know, if he's if he's wearing
Miami Marlin gear, is the pressure not nearly as intense
on him as he playing somewhere else to kind of
re reboot his career. If he was somewhere where he
(01:40:17):
could get out there every five games and try to
work out, and you know, he thinks he's close. He
said that, then maybe there's more of a chance. I
don't think he's going to turn it around and all
of a sudden be a really good starter, but he
would have more of a chance in that situation he does.
He's got basically no chance coming out of the bullpen
once or twice every couple of weeks. The only way
(01:40:37):
that a team would want to talk about him in
a trade would be if the Astros were to pay
out of the hour. Yeah he's making eighteen million next year,
you send over I don't know, twelve or whatever, fifteen,
I don't know. Yeah, it's it's negotiated between the two teams.
I just I think Lance's the juju is so bad here,
and it's not our fault. It's not the fault of
(01:40:59):
the manager, it's not the fault of Franklin. I mean,
you say what you will about the medical staff. But
I mean Lance has missed two different stints since coming back.
When though when the weight fell on him and then
you get the blizzed, I mean, there's just nothing. The
aura is terrible. Yeah, and he's not the only problem.
(01:41:20):
I mean, they're gonna they're gonna have to do some
serious rearranging next year. They got to figure out which
pictures are healthy and wealthy and can go six innings.
They've got to figure out, uh, perhaps a backup catcher
if Keratini leaves him free agency. They've got to figure
out their center field, their outfield situation, figure out your infield.
(01:41:40):
You got maybe one too many. Yeah, if he comes back,
if if he's a part of the team, you know,
do you are you going to continue to use you
on here he as a catcher or do you transition him?
Does Christian Walker be talked about in trade possibilities to
move you on here to first base? You know, Altuve
is going to be probably more you know of a
(01:42:01):
guy that you're thinking about dhing even more than he
did so this year, which means that it's gonna be
more youord on and left, which you're already seeing that. Yeah,
those are questions obviously for down the road, but there
it's gonna be a very, very, I think, interesting news
filled off season, dude. I mean, because think about last
(01:42:24):
offseason was Bregman's gone. We weren't surprised by that the
Kyle Trucker Tucker trade. While we were surprised that it happened,
it was a sound decision because he was never gonna
come back and play here. And then you were trying
to figure out which pictures are gonna be healthy enough
to start the season and realizing that many of them were,
you know, we're gonna be on time. And oh, by
(01:42:45):
the way, this young man in rody Field by the
na mccam smith was batting, you know, slugging twelve hundred
oo ps in spring training. You got it, You've got
to be on the team. And then he got on
the team and it's been obviously a mixed bag. Well,
he's been bad for multiple months. Yeah at the plate,
he's still very good in the field. Teams don't want
to run on him. I mean, I believe I'm bullish
on his future. I just if he could the season
(01:43:08):
gonna end now, he'd probably be like, that'd be great. Yeah,
I've just played a lot of baseball in my life
in the last twelve calendar months between college and going
to you know, when you have to go to spring
training and wow, somebody. I don't know if it takes
a lot out of you during the course of the season,
but some guys temper spring training different than others veterans
that are on the team. Jsal Tuba doesn't have to
temp doesn't have to fight for a playoff for a
(01:43:29):
spot on the roster. In March, you got Cam Smith
saying I don't want to start the season on sugar Land.
So he approached spring training significantly differently. And maybe that's
part of the fizzle Ote factor which he had the
last couple of months. I mean, yeah, I'm not really
mad at him about it, but it's it's just obviously
he's just also a point when he gets to the lineup,
you just don't expect it. Now, he had a couple
(01:43:49):
of hits on Saturday, but yesterday he was over three
with three strikeouts. Since July first, he's hitting one ninety
two with an ops of five thirty three. And while
he's also playing half as much too. Yeah, it's in
fifty two games Yeah, because hey, Susanche has been playing
a lot of right field during the time. All right,
that that is uh, that's the thing too, though he's
(01:44:10):
getting he's you're filtering out his negative matchups against right
handed pitching. This has been more more often than not
against favorable matchups, and he's still hitting that poorly.
Speaker 1 (01:44:21):
That's concerning.
Speaker 2 (01:44:22):
Yeah, because against the lefty you don't want Hay Susanchez
out because they.
Speaker 1 (01:44:26):
Not very much.
Speaker 10 (01:44:27):
No.
Speaker 2 (01:44:28):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven nine zero. So
is it a bad Houston day for the city Houston,
both teams or a forecast of which to come? Texans
offensive line gonna keep CJ strat up right? Are they
(01:44:48):
gonna make adjustments? And do CJ's quote about the week
of practice telling we'll play that cup for you again
and we'll comment on that as the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross continues here on Sports Talk seven ninety All Right,
CJ with some brutal honesty about the performance for the
Texans yesterday. Here is CJ in Los Angeles after the game. Ross,
(01:45:12):
give us the great details.
Speaker 4 (01:45:15):
There's a lot of hopes too. We did a lot
of good things. You know, it's a really good defense,
is a really good team. But I definitely think we
could have won. But just you can should have would
have coud all day. We didn't deserve to win that
game because we didn't. We didn't do the right things.
So when you come out in NFL lolly gaging and
you know, not going through the motions, that kind of
what happened. So I think we'll be all right. But
(01:45:36):
I think it's a good way up call for us.
Speaker 1 (01:45:38):
All right, let's go to CJ four because this is
that was lollygagging and going through the motions.
Speaker 2 (01:45:43):
I don't believe I didn't think of were lolligagon, did you.
I didn't see any lollying or gagging here talking about
concerns about the team preparing throughout the week.
Speaker 4 (01:45:58):
I think we could have practiced better. I think, you know,
I love I love the confidence we have, but there's
a I don't know. I always say there's like a
type of mindset as I did not do enough, And
I think it's a healthy way to be because then
you'll probably do more. So I just for me, you know, preparing,
I gotta do a better job. And I also got
(01:46:20):
to hold my guys accountable, you know, for that one
exile and it's the first thame of the year. We
had a lot of exiety looks we did not expect
they did too, but they made the play. So you
can come with a million excuses. We got to just
be better.
Speaker 2 (01:46:31):
There you go, gotta be better. So do you think
in in the back of his mind that CJ got
on the plane to Los Angeles they went Friday, by
the way, and he's like, we're not ready for this.
Noah like friends, not ready for whatever whatever for the
(01:46:55):
react that that he you know, you can get on.
You can have a great week of pride just and
have a crappy game, and you can also have a crappy,
weaker practice and great game. There's no If you practice well,
you are guaranteed success. I just think, well, first of all,
it's the NFL is hard, okay, especially when you have
(01:47:16):
a bad offensive line and no run game and they
know and they're playing too and so they're playing too
deep as he mentioned a lot of the game and
Cover two saying hey, you we're not going to stack
the box beat us with the run game, and you
can't do that. So I mean then you're just left
with a lot of you know, underneath throws and screens
(01:47:36):
and quick hitters and stuff like that, which they did
some of. Here's how I interpreted his comments. And again,
we don't need to overinterpret things, but we can't interpret
because things are said and you're supposed to just you know,
you can you can drink the kool aid, or you
can be honest. He was upset that his side of
the ball could not do things.
Speaker 5 (01:48:02):
That.
Speaker 2 (01:48:03):
I don't think he thinks he put this way. I
think he knew the Rams defense was gonna be better yesterday.
I don't think he was thinking in the back of
his mind, we are better than what the Rams are.
So when things aren't clicking in practice, going, guys, if
we don't get this better, we're gonna go to Los
(01:48:23):
Angeles and lose this game. I think he's going, that's
what it was. We didn't execute during practice like I
wanted to. I'm not gonna say anything because you know again,
because it doesn't mean because you have a bad practice
means you're gonna have a good game or vice versa.
He's by saying we just I he didn't feel as
confident as he needed to be getting on that plane
and going to play that team. Well, it's difficult to
(01:48:45):
be confident in the first place. And then you shuffle
your Now, they announced pregame basically that they were gonna shuffle,
so maybe they knew for a while they were gonna
reshuffle and put the left So that's fine, but even then,
that's not what's had been happening in Texans practice for
weeks been arianta Urser is gonna be your left tackle,
and you're switching him to the other side, a rookie
(01:49:05):
who has never played in the NFL, who started off
as the right tackle. Then you switch them a left
and then days before you i mean, was switching right,
and then you switch him back to left I mean,
or whatever the switching is. It's just it's not a
good situation. You're already in a bad situation. You're already
down Joe Mixon, and then it got even worse and
then you have So here's what happened. Yes, injuries happened
(01:49:26):
during the game. Jake Andrews gets hurt during the game,
and Ingram doesn't even play in the game, and then
you got to move people around because Kan Robinson gets hurt,
which means you got Jared Patterson in there backing up Andrews.
You got Juke Scruggs playing a little bit. You got
Blake Fisher all over the place. You got Titus Howard
staying where he is and then moving.
Speaker 1 (01:49:45):
It.
Speaker 2 (01:49:47):
And it's not like you're even missing all pros. It's
kind of doesn't I don't want to say it doesn't
matter who's out there, but whoever's out there, they need
to have a consistent unit because they can figure this
out because they're changing so many different things offensively as well.
You got a new offensive coordinator. He's you had already
these things that were not in your favor, the fact
that you had four new starters, the fact that you
(01:50:09):
have a guy for the very first time calling plays
in an NFL game. You've got two rookie receivers as well,
who you're hoping are going to be a big part
of your passing game, and no Joe Mixon, and then
all those shuffling happens as well. It's to me, it's
not that unexpected to use a baseball analogy on this roster.
It's like an underperforming baseball lineup having the manager flip
(01:50:32):
the lineup card around and moving guys around and expecting
different results. I would say it's even different because moving
the offensive line, like guys in a lineup, you just
go there and you swing a back. You're going up
against a pitcher. These guys need cohesion. These guys need
to be working together. These guys need to have these
kind of unspoken bonds where they're covering things and they're
covering blitzers and and and being on the same page.
(01:50:55):
They have to do that. And as we know and
we saw, you can make first down at the first down,
at the first down, you can make three first downs
in a drive. But then you're at midfield. You gotta
get further. You gotta get into the red zone, and
you got to get into the end zone. What was
the deepest pass at me, all of us up during
(01:51:17):
the break, the deepest target. Yeah, the longest pass was
twenty three yards to Jayden Higgins. But yeah, they're playing
too deep the whole time. And then they had the
one that got intercepted. That was a nice throw into
double coverage and that was a difficult grab. I mean
that was an interception, yes, and then it got ripped away. Yeah,
I mean it was a slightly I mean just by inches,
(01:51:37):
slightly overthrown, but it was a good overall good not
great throw from CJ. Stroud, and that gets ripped away.
So the way to hurt them, and what has been
a big trend in the NFL in the last several
years is to play more too deep, so you don't
get deep, beat deep, and you dare the run game
to beat you. And the Texas can't do that, I thought.
(01:51:58):
Anybody telling us on Nick Chubb, there were a couple
of moments, but Nick Chubb didn't surprise. He looked okay,
and then that last drive he was he was getting
some runs. But that's also like they needed a touchdown.
But like I told you before, thirteen carries iss about
as much as you're gonna able to get out of thirteen, fourteen, fifteen.
(01:52:18):
He's not gonna be able to carry the ball for
you twenty times per game.
Speaker 1 (01:52:21):
Yeah, it was a ten yard run, nine yard run.
Speaker 2 (01:52:25):
And well that was basically it. Well, he was thirteen
for sixty with a long of thirteen. You take away
that one, and this is getting into minutia a little bit.
He was twelve for forty seven. It was a little
under four yards to carry after that he wasn't very good,
but it's not like he just had a bunch of
a bunch of wide open lanes or anything like that.
(01:52:45):
They have to figure something out, whether it be id
just like would see two more opportunities with somebody. I
presume Damian Pearson Woody Marks had a little more juice
in their legs than Nick Chubb. But they liked the
professionalism and veteran guys, and we know that they did.
We go right, does like to lean on vets. The
longest play today in the game yesterday there were two
plays of twenty three yards.
Speaker 1 (01:53:06):
That was it.
Speaker 2 (01:53:08):
And give give the Rams credit whether the pass protection
wouldn't allow CJ to find Nico downfield, but there were
a lot of times you were just kind of curious
where he was going to be. And he was only
targeted five times. He had three for twenty five. And
that is you know what, that's ROSSI, that's three step
drop getting rid of the ball because my offensive line
(01:53:29):
can't protect me.
Speaker 1 (01:53:31):
M hm.
Speaker 2 (01:53:32):
And as you said, the shuffling of the chairs, of
the shuffling everyone around, you can't run offensive coordinators calling
his first game and you've got no Joe mixing and
you had false starts.
Speaker 1 (01:53:43):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:53:43):
By the way, we hadn't really talked about the penalties. Yeah,
the penalties are way too many as well. You got
eighteen first downs, three of them came via penalty. It's
not like they got thrashed and trashed in this game.
They had a chance in the fourth quarter to win
the football game. Lay in the fourth quarter actually because
(01:54:07):
you were then gonna if they would have scored a
touchdown to take the lead, then you were gonna then
ask Matthew Stafford to go sixty yards in about a
minute and a half. Now, granted he's also one of
the greatest quarterbacks of all time. The Texans have allowed
those types of plays, but it's also the Texans defense
kept you in this game. It really did. It really did. Now,
to the Rams credit, they did convert a bunch of
(01:54:29):
third downs that killed him. Matthew Stafford knows when some
time to take a sack, and he did.
Speaker 1 (01:54:34):
And there was one wide.
Speaker 2 (01:54:35):
Receiver for the Rams that kept getting open no matter
how how much his eye was gashed and how many
pads had over his eye. What. But you know what,
in all serious that though, to me, if you want
to go glass half full in this that's also an
NFC title contender.
Speaker 1 (01:54:51):
There it is, I would agree.
Speaker 2 (01:54:53):
Maybe not the favorite, but they're They're probably closer to
an NFC title game than the Texans are, but not
by much. Their divisions lit more difficult than Texans. Is
will be your favorite at home next week? By a point?
Speaker 1 (01:55:08):
Yeah, i'd see two and a half. Did it open it?
Speaker 2 (01:55:11):
It opened yesterday as soon as the game's ended at
one at one point? Did it move that much already?
I see two and a half at eespn bet But
also you lay one twenty normally you wait lay one
ten For those of them. I don't want you laying
down much more than that, my friend.
Speaker 1 (01:55:24):
I won't.
Speaker 2 (01:55:25):
All right, it's a stay away from me. Seven one
three two one two five seven nineties is the Matt
Thomas Show with Ross. All right, let's get back on
the phone. Seven one three two one two five seven nineties.
(01:55:45):
Seven one three two one two five seven NINTI don't
spend an hour and a half talking to johnath than
GE's your name, part of town, your comment?
Speaker 1 (01:55:50):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (01:55:51):
We got a lot of people that want to get in.
Poor Jonathan's having to answer a bunch of calls about
nineteen seventy five painters at the Astrodome. That's not true.
That was nineteen ninety five House of pain. Miss the
good old Daisy orders. Well they're gone, Matt, They're long gone,
way dead and gone.
Speaker 1 (01:56:09):
Way and gone.
Speaker 2 (01:56:10):
Move on, all right, get my new team that's mediocre
and is going to disappoint you in as long as
Carry McNair's brothers running the Texans, you will we never
go to the super Bowl. Maybe maybe Carry's been listening
to the show, all right, Maybe maybe we wanted that
GM drama from the Cowboys and we moved it over
to the Sextans. You know, yeah, Carry, if you're listening,
come on into the show. Would we not want Carry
(01:56:33):
reach out to Tony Buzzby and get him on? You know,
he like he didn't want to turn down a microphone.
There'll be one station won't ask for that. I'll tell
you that for sure, probably too, honey, Yeah, Sonny, Okay,
I don't think the buzz is asking for Kerry McNair either.
Tony Buzzy really get him on and talk about the
latest Green Day record. All right, So listen to me,
(01:56:54):
Tony for listening, or Carrie call the show and give
us all the deats on this fact that you believe
your brother never got a bachelor's degree. Ever, by the way,
somebody on Twitter gave us a note that said that, yeah,
Rice is acknowledging cal for having a master's He's on
the website. He's on the website and it's Rice. They
(01:57:15):
wouldn't lie.
Speaker 1 (01:57:17):
What if they did, that'd be a huge That would
be the biggest kind of wouldn't it If Rice is
lying about it?
Speaker 2 (01:57:23):
Well, hey, Benjamin says, Cal McNair is listened to having
graduated from Rice's business school in nineteen eighty five by
the Rice website itself out they're lying. Well, that isn't
the issue. The issue is did he get the bachelor's right?
Did he get like you know, you can award like
honorary doctorates, You get an honorary NBA because his dad
(01:57:45):
paid for a business building. Well, yeah, that is so funny.
You're right, you write a check for a building, we'll
give you some degrees. It's like, you know, you get
some bonuses, give and take. That's crazy that we talked
about his NBA and Rice for so along in this show,
and then it's buzzby straight up brings it up in
this letter. That's wild to me because if you're if
(01:58:08):
you have an NBA in business, right, aren't you intricately
involved in all of the businesses because you would thinking
of a mind for it. I guess so, I mean
word has it the count plus video games? Well, that's
in between business meetings, Matt, that's in between his uh
you know, he's on his Excel spreadsheets. So it's Excel spreadsheets. Yes,
(01:58:31):
call of duty stockholders meeting, then Madden twenty six. I
have to fight these zombies. By the way, Cal, I'm
on the NBA two ka. If you will like to
play meeting with my voice again on there, i'd be
I'd be very honored by that. Oh my god, how
did you drag yourself into this actually talking video games?
Speaker 1 (01:58:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:58:51):
But all right, yes, yes, you're doing great, Matt.
Speaker 1 (01:58:54):
Give us a tatoya.
Speaker 3 (01:58:55):
How you go?
Speaker 2 (01:58:55):
You go to the settings and then you put you on.
You have to go to the you have to play
I don't even no, you have to play with the
rockets in the nineties and then you're there, right, I think,
so I've remember played it myself. I'm going a video
you Okay, my son's been asking about it, but I
don't even about it. So would you give another free copy?
Speaker 1 (01:59:10):
Honey?
Speaker 2 (01:59:11):
Know it's free. What if I paid for it? I
know you don't because I know you hands out Thomas.
You get free free copies of two k I can
get you one.
Speaker 8 (01:59:18):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:59:19):
Okay, don't you want to don't you want to hear
your friend on the show on the video game?
Speaker 11 (01:59:22):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:59:23):
Yeah, I have a big flax. I can post it
on aswer. You know this is my co worker, you guys.
Speaker 2 (01:59:27):
Yeah, see big bye. Speaking of Instagram, at sports MPT oh, no,
you should follow at sports RV. If you follow sports MPT, oh,
my Texans offensive line will get better. You said that
the Astros are gonna hit runs if I followed you,
and then they had to do nothing but tossing up
tos and zerus. They got eleven on Saturday at sports
empt Instagram. What about Friday and Sunday?
Speaker 1 (01:59:48):
M I don't know your fault.
Speaker 2 (01:59:51):
That was a sports RV follow day. Oh okay, Follow
me on on Instagram at sports empt, follow me on
Twitter at sports MPT good things will happen free and
by the way, I do get rid of my spam accounts.
Those spam accounts, the porn people, the fake Elon Musk people.
So my number is authentic and true and honest. I like,
I like other brags about their Twitter numbers when they're
(02:00:12):
ninety percent of our porn stars minor down in the forties.
Let's go to Adam and Tom ballnot want to wait
on the Matt Thamas show. Ross Adam, thank you for
holding a good afternoon so strange.
Speaker 1 (02:00:22):
I know you're doing great.
Speaker 14 (02:00:27):
Uh No, I just got a little bit. I've just
got a little bit of ben about a little bit.
I mean, we gloated all all season about our defense. Okay,
the number one defense, one of the number one defense,
probably top five defenses in the league. Blah blah blah
blah blah. You let one guy, one guy by the
name of Pooka Nkua.
Speaker 7 (02:00:48):
He was.
Speaker 11 (02:00:49):
He couldn't even see.
Speaker 7 (02:00:50):
We bloodied him.
Speaker 14 (02:00:51):
It was a blood and massacre on his face.
Speaker 7 (02:00:54):
And he still got.
Speaker 8 (02:00:56):
All the every he was.
Speaker 14 (02:00:58):
You know, scouts talking about shell defense. We were probably
playing shell too, because we were I mean a broken shell,
shell toe. I don't know what they were playing, but
they couldn't stop. They couldn't stop a nosebleed.
Speaker 1 (02:01:11):
But his eye was bleeding. But it was just ridiculous.
Speaker 14 (02:01:15):
I mean, you know, we got we got some a
little bit of pastor us, but I just couldn't. I
couldn't believe what I was seeing. I'm like, you let
the Swan guy beat you the whole game.
Speaker 11 (02:01:24):
You know it just and you know.
Speaker 14 (02:01:26):
In CJ, come on, I mean, he knows if you're
playing shell. I mean, that's why you That's why you
got a whole note new offensive coordinator, and that's why
you did everything in the off in the in the
off season, you said you were gonna, uh, you know,
you're gonna do new looks. You're gonna do uh what
new looks before you know, you know what I mean,
before the snap of the ball, you're gonna do free snap,
(02:01:46):
You're gonna do movements.
Speaker 7 (02:01:47):
You're gonna do all that.
Speaker 14 (02:01:48):
And then what where where was it at? It was
nowhere to be found, if you know, the playing a
certain defense, switch of defense, especially during halftime.
Speaker 7 (02:01:56):
It was just ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (02:02:01):
Thank you, Adam, Adam got you. I understand. Yeah, Pooka Nakula,
I want to keep an eye on that guy who
was on him. Primarily we know the second. So the
last play was Jalen Petrie. The second and last play,
they ran and Pookinakua went and blocked Jalen Petrie. Then
in the last play on third down, Pooka Nakua went
(02:02:24):
to go act like he faked like he was going
to block Jalen Petrie. Petrie bid on it, and then
and then Nikoua split out to the left and was
wide open. Petrie was like bracing himself, he was like
going to go try to blow up Nikoua blocking him.
And then Nikoua he he faked and flared out to
the left and he was wide open. So it was
just you know, the bottom of yesterday, the amount of
(02:02:46):
play action the Texans bid on all day long. Yes,
and that's that's kind of what happened there. And well,
Jayleen Petrie, we we love him. He is prone to
biting on play action. He's very aggressive. It's he he
can get downhill and he can be in the backfield
and he can get a lot of stops and then
unfore well on that play is aggressiveness. But there was
one help me if you remember this, there was a
(02:03:06):
third and long I want to say eight or nine
where Matt Stafford want into play action that never no
one should have thought realistically, they've been writing on third
and eight. I don't know if we're talking about the
same play the very last drive. This was the very
last drive, is what I'm talking about. Okay, Yeah, I'm
just there was there was one play third down, second
half long play action converting because again the Rams did
(02:03:28):
a really good job of converting third downs in which
Texans did not. But one of them was like, come on,
you're not biting on a play action on third and eight. Yeah,
I gotta start writing that stuff down. I was like,
I need to tell somebody. Nobody's in the house everbody's
taking a nap. Why don't you take your Texans games out?
I need to You should your Texans insider? No, yeah,
insider not taking notes? Yeah, you know what I should
(02:03:50):
be doing, Tom, start taking more notes. I am the insider.
Everything I've given you so far in the Texans has
been one percent accurate. Thank you, Matt, and I needed
meaning to thank you about that. You need to the
only way you the only way you should thank me
is by giving me the old follow on Instagram at
sports not.
Speaker 1 (02:04:07):
The sameless FuG too.
Speaker 2 (02:04:09):
This is so funny. You never mentioned your Instagram until
I mentioned mine. You really mean you recognize that?
Speaker 3 (02:04:15):
Right?
Speaker 2 (02:04:16):
May so great? I love you, Matt Thomas. Let me
say that I'm asking real quick in the thirty seconds. No,
do you really think this offensive line is going to
be significantly better? Now worse? It can be better? Yes, absolutely,
it can be better. And you don't think eight weeks
from now we're gonna be bitching and moaning about I
didn't say that, I'm asking. I didn't say they're gonna
(02:04:39):
turn around be a top five unit. But here's what
I'm gonna give you, a little person coming back, I'm
gonna give it to you. I'm gonna give it to you,
Stric it's on the inside. Okay, go ahead. We're gonna
be bitching and moaning about this all season long, and
somebody's gonna have to hold Casseri's feet to the fire
on this. It's very possible, and they tried, and they
drafted a guy and very I'm gonna tell you every
so we can get better. He just started his first
(02:05:01):
NFL game. You're telling me a rookie can't get better
as a season goes on. I'm telling you he can
absolutely get better, and I am I am, I'm excited
about seeing his development. Well, also, you tell me you're
in your first NFL game Ross you gotta play left
and right tackles. I mean that takes something special. No,
I'll get a credit for that. Well, I'm gonna tell
you this that. Also, when is Joe Mixon coming back?
Speaker 1 (02:05:20):
If ever?
Speaker 2 (02:05:21):
Because that's a huge part of it. Joe Mixon is
supposed to be a huge feature part of this offense.
We cannot overlook that he was supposed to be here.
And outside of that, you gotta bust it up. Seventeen
knee surgery Nick Chubb, and then question marks Damian Pierce,
who had one good season and hasn't been good since.
And then what he marks, who's a fourth round rookie.
A lot of people said was overdrafted. We're talking about
(02:05:45):
this all season long. It's possible, absolutely because it was
never really fixing the offseason.
Speaker 1 (02:05:52):
The Texans decided not even to go to it early
in the draft second round for a left tackles, but there.
Speaker 2 (02:05:58):
Were multiple spots that could have been fixed. You could
have gotten multiple rookies in the first three rounds. You know,
Trader uh Nick is always moving around draft picks, Yes
he is. Hannah's not gonna be pleased by this. I
don't know if Hannah is more upset about the offensive
line or her husband being a you know what, She's
(02:06:18):
more upset by being character assassinated by her brother in law.
She's the pr queen. She hates this, this, this story
that's coming out one fourteen, Sports Talk seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven nine zero.
Speaker 1 (02:06:36):
Twenty two Sports Talk seven ninety It is Matt and
Ross with you until two.
Speaker 2 (02:06:41):
O'clock, believe it or not today. I don't even know
what we're talking about. You want to him more? I Carrie,
she got an MTV award or something yesterday, speaking a witch.
Why is Peyton Manning telling me to watch the VMAs,
Bobby when there shouldn't even be a VMA's when there's
no vs videos seven one three two two, Yeah, there's
(02:07:06):
they're just not on that channel. I mean, some visa
better than others, He's got that right, thank you, Jonathan.
Why you startled by the things I say? I just
said some visa better than others?
Speaker 3 (02:07:20):
No?
Speaker 2 (02:07:21):
Uh like? For instance, Uptown Girl back in that day
was a good V song video song.
Speaker 1 (02:07:27):
What are those other videos like Thriller?
Speaker 7 (02:07:29):
Me say?
Speaker 2 (02:07:29):
Okay, did you enjoy the Kendrick Lamar Squabble Up video?
Is that Drake r by the way? He just no, no,
the video is just so. The song was called squabble Up,
by the way. Over the weekend, Kendrick Lamar won an
Emmy for what for Music Presentation for the super Bowl.
Congratulations to him. So that makes a Pulitzer and Emmy.
(02:07:53):
I believe David Tony yet no doesn't have his not
He's trying to get the egot with the Oscar and
the Tony. I don't know if the Oscar is his,
but I think Black Panther for Original Song one, but
I don't know if it was his song, I can't remember.
And then of course twenty two Grammy Awards, So congratulations
to him on the Emmy, Emmy Award for Every Weekend
(02:08:14):
for these for the super Bowl halftime performance and fifty
percent of America hated the halftime performance, probably more. But
you know what, though, I figured this out over the weekend.
America hates everything. Well you just figured that out.
Speaker 1 (02:08:26):
Well, I man, I wanted to put in perspective. Okay,
like you, you and I go to sports bars. You
like Matt Ross, Well, I love Ross.
Speaker 2 (02:08:38):
People love Matt eh, people love mister Texas. I was
in Burnham on Friday night on the streets of Texas.
You know what, that's my fault for bringing that up.
You made it three and a half I brought it up.
You didn't bring it for three and a half hours.
That is accurate. So that's my bad. Anyways, By the way,
I think Jonathan from here on out there should we
should play god Less Texas when I first start the show,
(02:09:02):
because matth that's the appropriate theme for mister Texas. Oh okay,
it was nominated for an oscar did not win. Sorry,
all the stuffs West Texas. Yeah, it's don't play fit.
I'm just saying that was just there should be patriotic
songs about me because I am. I do carry the
flag for the stake, like a bald eagle war.
Speaker 1 (02:09:17):
Or something exactly. Well, it wouldn't it be like an
armadillo and a bluebonnet city. Like that Rudder Rigger commercial
they say the Texas Burger has all the stuff in it.
Speaker 2 (02:09:30):
Big stars at night getting Burnerburgger is getting towo national
hon us. It's losing its Texas charm. Gotta be honest
with you. You agree with me, don't you. I don't
think you're wrong. Oh you know how painful that was
for sports? Are what I mean? I've been talking about
in and out Burger being better for years.
Speaker 1 (02:09:49):
It's not, though, Shut up, you don't know. Guess I
do Burger Burger for Burger. My family is from California. No, no, no, no,
Burger for Burger is not close, right, Yeah, Renten route
is better than if you want to bring in the
French fries and whatnot, we can have a discussion. But
Burger for Burger it ain't even close. That's trying to
(02:10:10):
claim mister Texas. And you're saying the.
Speaker 2 (02:10:13):
Rent routes are you're out Texas now.
Speaker 1 (02:10:17):
Because they're not real. They're not real authentic.
Speaker 2 (02:10:19):
What do you mean real authentic? I walk in there,
go walk into renting route. May help you know that
princes are authentic to me. But WaterBrook is only a
select few southern states, you know.
Speaker 1 (02:10:28):
Sure, they're in Missouri now Missouri in south it is,
by the way, the rent En route.
Speaker 2 (02:10:36):
We're going with that yeah, it's better in California. I
don't disagree with it, but if I need a little
rent or out hook up, I'll go get that hook up.
Speaker 1 (02:10:43):
All right.
Speaker 2 (02:10:43):
Anyways, what were we talking about? Sports? Sports? Dounna on
seven six Donna, how the hell are you?
Speaker 11 (02:10:51):
What's going on Thomas today?
Speaker 1 (02:10:56):
We're wonderful.
Speaker 11 (02:10:59):
Welcome back, Welcome back, man.
Speaker 1 (02:11:01):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (02:11:01):
So I think I've been back for two weeks now,
but I appreciate it.
Speaker 11 (02:11:05):
Man, your personally was pretty, you know, pretty interesting. Manson
was pretty interesting.
Speaker 2 (02:11:12):
What I had two guys come in for a couple
of hours. Gordon came in one day and Okay, what
do you think am I getting Wally pitted out of here?
Speaker 8 (02:11:21):
Uh?
Speaker 11 (02:11:22):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah yo you Adam Palillo? That that
was that?
Speaker 2 (02:11:25):
Oh that's what he called. He called Cole Thompson, Adam Plo.
He's got some Clanton and some Charlie and him. Oh
that's quite an interesting mix. Actually, man, I.
Speaker 11 (02:11:37):
Was really calling because man, hey, Bud gotta sit.
Speaker 3 (02:11:43):
Man.
Speaker 11 (02:11:43):
He can't be starting every game. He's got the bond.
Speaker 2 (02:11:50):
Oh yeah, well he teas not starting him every day.
Speaker 11 (02:11:57):
And man, I just think he got either playing too
Bay at d H or left and pud here he
is that second And I didn't go with that that
whole eight cat out there in lights field, because man,
(02:12:19):
that's our best line up because when you got the
bun and uh, you know, I see him coming out
for minutes at the end of the game for special reasons.
But uh, the spot the spoder gotta stick with one lineup.
Speaker 1 (02:12:35):
No he doesn't. No, that's Stunda. That's not how baseball works.
We don't stick with one lineup. You have to go
with the situational matchups. You gotta go lefty versus righty,
rightty versus lefty. Get you know, guys are gonna get
days off, guys are gonna be hot eye. This the
whole thought.
Speaker 2 (02:12:49):
Love you stunding like a brother from another mother, obviously,
But the fact is, you just know we don't do this.
We don't in twenty twenty five, hell in nineteen seventy five.
You don't go with the same nine guys every day.
You don't work that way. It just doesn't think you, Matt,
That's all I got. You play matchups and well, I mean,
especially in the situation of cam Smith and Sanchez there
their splits are so different against righties and lefties, and
(02:13:12):
the fact that they both are primarily right fielders, and
in the fact that cam Smith can use some extra
days off. Dubond used all over the field. And it's
not like Ramonirius has been great at the plate. At
one point Duban had been better overall. But Bond's payed
one hundred and eighteen games. I mean, that's that's not
every day. That's a lot. And there's also been some
(02:13:33):
pin chainting in there. But yeah, how many I'm curious
how many of those are starts? Probably most of them,
right are two hundred lesson bats and Josel twa who's
payed one hundred and thirty seven, so significantly. Okay, all right,
I didn't have a memorize, but I looked it up.
Speaker 1 (02:13:44):
I thought you had that.
Speaker 2 (02:13:46):
I thought I thought you were channeling Palilo.
Speaker 1 (02:13:48):
Oh, three hundred and thirty six played appearances. He's got
to be better, Like hell, all right, you know, here
we go? Yeah, you know, uh, Nick Cassaria doing some
sort of budstituitional I could control of the building.
Speaker 2 (02:14:08):
You don't come on now, I mean, why is it.
Speaker 1 (02:14:12):
George Burger plight he's twenty five years old, that was curious,
but we knew why. Yeah, team control, hashtags, get me
out of here as fast as humanly possible. And now
he is tearing it up for the Toronto Blue Jays.
Speaker 2 (02:14:27):
Yeah, but it was just a low to start for
a while.
Speaker 8 (02:14:31):
Man.
Speaker 2 (02:14:31):
How is the overall numbers? They're probably pretty good, right?
Speaker 1 (02:14:33):
How many?
Speaker 2 (02:14:34):
How many he's sitting three hundred with twenty seven homers?
How many ops is over all those years in Toronto?
Speaker 1 (02:14:41):
He's got nine forty two ops right now? Damn we
could use that.
Speaker 2 (02:14:45):
How about like the last three or four years? What's
this been ops?
Speaker 1 (02:14:48):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (02:14:49):
I'll give you ops plus's folks, one hundred being average
starting his first year in Toronto one one excellent, one
thirty two excellent, one o two and ninety one and
then one fifty four this year. He's played a lot
of games there. We talked about him being injury pro
and all that stuff. Twenty one he was hurt. But
then since then one hundred and thirty three games, one
(02:15:10):
hundred and fifty four hundred and forty five and one
hundred twenty one and that us money does okay? There,
I know these things, yeah, but doesn't well if and
then getting played paid in Canadian.
Speaker 1 (02:15:20):
That's a good question.
Speaker 2 (02:15:21):
How does that work? I don't know, but you got
Tim Horton. Ryn Morton's up there, and then a little
taxis in Toronto, No Bueno, and the airport's far away
from downtown, further and Intercontinental. Okay, I don't know why
I brought that up. I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (02:15:34):
I think what he's into stretching out in the black
ass UV he's doing all right. It's funny.
Speaker 2 (02:15:39):
We drove to Brenham on Friday and my wife's like, man,
I wish we had a driver. I'd say we do.
It's called Uber.
Speaker 1 (02:15:46):
Everybody has a driver.
Speaker 2 (02:15:47):
Now we can literally get a driver anywhere we want
to go. I'm serious. We if I, if I could
ever convince you to go back to that in your industry, Uber,
that will be good. Well, first of all, you'd be
found awesome at it. Secondly, the stories you could tell. Yeah,
let me check the Iheart's earnings reports might be back
there sooner than I think four old K.
Speaker 1 (02:16:07):
Number breaking news. That's one.
Speaker 2 (02:16:20):
Do you know what it is, Jonathan? No, I was
waiting ross you know, feels like one point five max.
Then around up. Okay, let's do it too, you're reading
it or me. Okay, by the way, I hate to divault,
(02:16:46):
just digress here, Sam. I do not call coke pop.
When I lived, when I was a kid, when I
was seven years old, I called it pop. I always
say that, Matt. You always walk up here and say,
would you like to have a poppy?
Speaker 3 (02:16:58):
No?
Speaker 1 (02:16:58):
I do not up, Sam, shoot your bowmass up, man.
Speaker 2 (02:17:05):
I do not call it pop. I call everything coke,
knt of coke, you on all of a sprite. So Sam,
shut up. You don't know falls some I'm sending him
a yeah, it's ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (02:17:16):
All right, go.
Speaker 2 (02:17:18):
Ahead, Kate to this from Aaron Wilson, who did get
the seed, and we just have to say, did get
the CJ. Gardner Johnson acl teir wrong but also has
gotten a lot of things right. Texans starting tight end
Kate Stover broke his foot against the Rams and is
out indefinitely. Stover was in a boot after the game.
Caught a team high four passes for twenty two yards
(02:17:39):
on four targets. With Kate Stover out, and definitely the
Texans will need reinforcements at tight end. They went with
just two tight ends against Rams, with Dalton Schultz and Stover. Hmmm,
tight end was pretty big, especially in the first half. No,
they were catching everything. Dalton Schultz like, you can keep
(02:18:01):
me around now, Yeah, broken foot, that's what six eight
weeks right in theory think about the I mean, I
think a tight end needs his foot as well. You
gotta run, you gotta push off, you got a block.
I mean, I have not told you this yet today,
but I was able to get a SoundBite that we
(02:18:22):
just found of we we attempted to call Bobby Sloan,
the former Texans coordinator. Here is his thoughts after yesterday's
Texans offensive performance.
Speaker 1 (02:18:38):
Oh, that's it, that's it. It's kind of fun though,
that's kind of funny. Okay. I was thinking more of at.
Speaker 2 (02:18:54):
Okay, a big barrel of chested laugh. I thought it
was gonna be one of these man. Now he is
in Miami where that whole staffs can be fire eventually.
Speaker 1 (02:19:02):
That's true. He doesn't have much of a life that
loved either. But I thought, you're gonna go with the
shack Kobe, tell me dis.
Speaker 2 (02:19:09):
Custers and discussers all the only U two fan boy pages.
Speaker 1 (02:19:12):
Well, it's got it. I'm gonna start throwing shade Bobby
slowly Bobby slogans like shut your bomass them, you give
me a trash offensive line.
Speaker 2 (02:19:22):
Yeah, it's just so easy when someone leaves town, it's
so easy to say, Well, it's like, I cannot wait
for if action to this. If the Astros coaches do change,
there's gonna be somebody I told you so, I told
you that's what.
Speaker 1 (02:19:35):
The problem was.
Speaker 2 (02:19:36):
Yeah, look, that's fine, and they could very well be changed.
And I've talked about this and it's people have misconstrued
me defending the coaches. Well, I've seen your tweets. You're
defending him to the nines.
Speaker 1 (02:19:46):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (02:19:47):
Really, what I'm saying is that the hitters need to
be better because you because the coaches get all the
blame when it's bad and none of the credit when
it's good. I'm just saying, be consistent, and I'm consistent.
It's the players. Carls Korea is how how many years
in the Major League has he been?
Speaker 1 (02:20:04):
Nine to ten?
Speaker 2 (02:20:05):
Carls Kray is a nine to ten major year Major leaguer.
Jord On Alvarez has been great, He's like six seven
years in and oh, by the way, the only hitting
coaches he's had is the one that they have right now,
and he's been pretty darn good.
Speaker 1 (02:20:17):
Jose al Tuve is about the waltz into the Hall
of Fame.
Speaker 2 (02:20:20):
Christian Walker is thirty plus years old, an eight to
nine year vet. He needs to be better too. Jeremy
Peny is having a breakout year. Any coaches don't get
any credits.
Speaker 1 (02:20:33):
Trust me.
Speaker 2 (02:20:34):
If the Texans don't score in the ends on this week,
Nick Kayley, you might as well get ready for Nick
Keyley combo twenty four to seven.
Speaker 1 (02:20:41):
So let's go through the lineup.
Speaker 2 (02:20:42):
Jeremy Penia breakout year, jord On Alvarez amazing, Jose al
Tuve future Hall of Famer, Carls Karrea nine ten years in,
Christian Walker nine ten years in, Jake Myers having a
breakout year, and then Yaner Diez was having a bad
year and it needs to be better. That was your
top seven in the lineup. Where are the hitting coaches failing?
And what I just ran through It isn't an individual thing.
(02:21:05):
It's a byproduct of teamed in not performance expectations. An
owner and a general manager say what can we do
to be better? And sometimes it's a shake up and
that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (02:21:14):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (02:21:15):
I don't think it'll be fair. I have no relationship
with the hitting coaches at all. Yeah, that's fine with
me either. I don't. And you get new guys and
you get Tom Dick and Harry in here next year,
I'm gonna say the players need to hit better.
Speaker 1 (02:21:24):
I'm just saying.
Speaker 2 (02:21:24):
And the reason why I'm cross sport comparison comparing this
is that, oh, Nick Cayley, this is the guy that
went to Los Angeles, he learned from the from the
very best. And Sean McVay. That was a team that
didn'tcore touchdown a week one, right, Cas Wills change everything, healthy, CJ. Stroud,
(02:21:45):
good running back, lead receivers. So we got to do
a better job. We as sports fans got to put
this on the players.
Speaker 1 (02:21:54):
We really do.
Speaker 2 (02:21:56):
Even even your boy, uh Sark was was getting the
brief after the Ohio State gamey other day. Oh god,
oh you're talking all the Ohio State game. Yeah, well
the well also, you were to me, it's a little
bit different when you're a college coach because if you
blame the players, these are the players you brought in
and he developed. Do we have the SoundBite of a
mister sark you want him, okay, set it up. Have
(02:22:16):
you seen the video, folks of there's a video circulating
where arch Manning throws a pass and he's wincing. I've
seen that and he's grimacing. So Steve Sarkisen asked about that.
Here's what he had to say.
Speaker 1 (02:22:30):
Arch Manning seemed to be having some throwing pains.
Speaker 2 (02:22:33):
By the arch arch said that to you. No, according
to who, it just looked like he was.
Speaker 4 (02:22:40):
He doesn't have.
Speaker 1 (02:22:41):
Any that is there an explanation to why he was
It looked like that.
Speaker 5 (02:22:45):
I don't know.
Speaker 9 (02:22:47):
I've never filed I've never filmed any of you guys
when you're using the bathroom, so I don't know what
faces you make when you're doing that.
Speaker 1 (02:22:54):
What? What? What that was?
Speaker 2 (02:22:56):
That was mister analogy level analogy that I would say
that was horrific. I know what about analogy sounds like
that's bizarre. Let me ask you this. If you showed
you know what I would have done. I would I
would that reporter. I would have said, here's the video
I'm talking about. Got didn't show him? Yeah, I mean,
there's the video is circulating and it looks like he
(02:23:16):
wins his before he throws. It looks like he's in paint.
I'm quite frankly we concerned about it because I thought
when I virginally thought, I thought it was something a
I've driven okay, because no one said word one about
it during the game, and we don't have any idea
when that when that video was taken, right, we'd have zero.
I think it's yeah, you can see it's the San
Jose game. Oh, I know that, but I'm saying it
(02:23:37):
was what first half?
Speaker 1 (02:23:38):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:23:39):
I don't know exactly. I just know it doesn't look good.
Best guy, I got sixty seconds for you. You're on
seven ninety good afternoon.
Speaker 8 (02:23:47):
Yes, sir, cool man?
Speaker 1 (02:23:50):
What yes? We got forty five seconds now, Biskey, what
do you got? Let's go fire away?
Speaker 2 (02:23:56):
Brevan?
Speaker 8 (02:23:57):
Where's all Man Cooger in the house on Friday night? Man,
I wish I could make it on a Friday, But
I think it's gonna be at the show on Tam
Couger's Man Coach got him playing some deep at the
ball to the Texas Matt. Come on, man, you change
four office of linemen off. I think it's just gonna
come out the box just shining and looking like a
(02:24:18):
well all machine. It takes time.
Speaker 5 (02:24:20):
Man.
Speaker 11 (02:24:21):
Now listen to me, Rawson.
Speaker 8 (02:24:23):
You can correct me for wrong. The issue to me
to look at seven eight games from now is do
they have enough weapons? And now you're telling me another
weapon got hurt. That's where the issue i'd see is
they don't have They got one guy you scared up
right now, and when Kirk and Joe come back, maybe
(02:24:43):
it'll change. But right now you just got one guy
and he can be taken out the game. The rest
of the guys is this mediocre and you playing one
of the top punk seventh in the league. Yeah, you
wasn't gonna score many points. You know that's the Rams
mess around and go to the super Bowl. Yeah, man,
I think we got to pump the brakes on off
of the line. Give them time to jail. I know
(02:25:05):
they do got some injuries that came in front the game.
Left tackle is an issue, though, But give them time
to jail.
Speaker 2 (02:25:12):
You know what. The thing the reality is, Biscuit, and
thank you for the call. We have to give them time.
That's not out of they I mean we're talking about
first of all, no, a season never finished after one week.
Frankly for that matter, remember you know next week when
teams go in too, we're gonna hear that stat Every
year we hear that teams only make the playoffs certain
percentage of time when they teams go into that. That
is the easy, easy story storyline. I got news for
(02:25:36):
your folks. I watched some of that Buccaneers Falcons game.
Bak and me Ifield can throw the ball around, Mike
Evans ain't slowing down. You're gonna have to score a
bunch of points. And if the offensive line wants to
hold up, that's great. But the reason why we were
bringing this up is because that was the number one
concern going in and you felt absolutely no better whatsoever.
(02:25:58):
And I guarantee you as you're watching the game yesterday,
many many of you were going.
Speaker 1 (02:26:03):
Oh, just give it time and give it time.
Speaker 2 (02:26:04):
No, you're thinking, you know what, same verse same as
a first seven one three two one two five seven

series with the Blue Jays in Canada, then onto Atlanta

close out the week the season with six games in
California three against the A's and three against the Angels.
