Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ten oh one, nh town.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Good morning, everyone, and welcome to a Monday edition of
The Matt Thomas Show with Ross Here on Sports Talk
seven ninety. I'm coming to you from San Francisco, California.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Ross's in our Houston studios.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
We have a lot of interesting sports items to get
to today, almost Rossie too much sports. We had the
NFL Draft, We had the Astros finally putting up some
numbers yesterday against the Kansas City Royals after going with
twenty six innings without scoring anything. And then we have
the rockets Saturday performance against the Golden State Warriors.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
For a love Linus Paris.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
See carry a little San Francisco music going for you, Matt,
you know what, I kind of need that. Yeah, it's
stressful times right now for the Houston Rockets, especially. Don't
get me started hot mess Ross, I gotta be really
honest with you.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Yeah, what's that? How's that different from.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Me the other day?
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Though? That's true. At least I'm consistent consistently.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
You're right, you're the consistency. You're the Luke Garig of
hot messes.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Matt.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Yeah, if there was a streak of hot messes, it
would be me. Had a great dinner last night. I
can tell you that here we go the great Tony
Bennett in sun Fridol. Didn't you tell me you went
(01:33):
and saw Tony Bennet a few years ago and he
sang a song and then he started re sing the
same song everybody.
Speaker 4 (01:39):
It was like he was everybody's sweet old grandpa. He
now actually for a ninety two year old at the time,
he was ninety two. Yeah, he sang really well and
he did a good set, and everyone was like encouraging him.
It was, like I said, it was like you were
cheering on your your senile grandpa. And then he came
on and did encore and he did a song. I
(01:59):
can't remember what it was. It was maybe New York,
New York or something. He started to walk off the
stage paused, was clearly confused. Everyone's cheering them on again,
Like I said, We're all just.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
Like, okay, what's Tony gonna do? Then he came back
on and did.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
The same song, so we got an extra encore out
of the deal.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Yeah, But he also said I love y'all Cleveland all
the best.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Yeah. No, I don't think he even bothered saying singing
and songs his daughter was the opener. She was terrible.
Quite frankly, I'm sorry, sorry to the Bennett family, but oh.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
We've had a lot of gravy trained kids.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
We've had Frank Sinatra Junior gravy train off of Pops.
We've had you mentioned Tony Bennett's daughter. We had Julian
Lennon gravy train off for his dad.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
He had one hit one hit?
Speaker 2 (02:50):
M Yeah, who else didn't?
Speaker 5 (02:55):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (02:57):
And Bob you said, did you mention Bob Dylan's son?
Speaker 1 (03:00):
No? I did not, but I'm not a bop villa.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
It was the Wallflowers. They had a song One Headlight
was their jam. Trying to think who else Jacob Dylan? Yeah,
who else is gravy trained off at Pops?
Speaker 6 (03:12):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Nancytra Is, what's that Nancy Sinatra?
Speaker 1 (03:17):
Uh? Sister?
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Oh wait, that was his sister. I think so, oh,
I didn't know that. Don't hold me to that. But
Frank Sinatra had junior. Was it was up a performer too. Yeah,
he wasn't that bad. Actually sounded it's fairly similar to
his father.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
He he basically said I was gonna do everything I
can to steal off Pops.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
It's okay, you gotta do what you gotta do.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
It up?
Speaker 2 (03:36):
Is Nancy Sinatra related to Frank Oh? I always thought
she was hurt his daughter gonna bother me? Now, this
is Terrbory.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
We gotta talk.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
About sports on the SHOWFT weeked.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
You know this is my fault. I told you, it
is your fault.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
I told John and then to play I left my
heart in San Francisco.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
Yeah, she's the eldest child, his first child.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Oh damn. See.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
I was like, how did I get something right about
nineteen seventies music over you? No, she wasn't seventies. Oh
sixties yeah, sixties even better. I thought that Leslie Gore
was lettered to Al Gore, and I was wrong about that. Okay,
that's kind of a running family. Bet you thought Chris
Gordy was related to Barry Gordy as well, which is
odd because Barry Gordy was playing what folks have come
(04:22):
to us for sports, and we're giving them terrible music
from forty five years ago.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
You know what it is. We're displacing our angst over
what happened to procrastinat.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
I don't want to talk about the rockets and you don't.
It's procrastination, Matt, Yeah, and not looking forward to tonight
although it is not. And by the way, we've put
a more Tom on saying that. Are you arguing You
can say it. I just don't want to argue about it. No,
we're not gonna argue about it anymore. But because here's
the thing, you still have to you know, you're down
to one of the series. You're gonna have to win
three of the next with four games basically, yes, no
(04:56):
matter what, whatever order, you do it right right, You're
already in a bad spot winning three out of four
against the Golden State Warriors. And talked about it on
the Rockets rappar second, Oh got Gary Payton the sect Okay, yeah, well,
I mean at least you got to get in the
NBA in your own merits or the NFL should door.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Yeah, by the way, was that shad door stuff?
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Absolutely crazy that not only did he get drafted where
he did, which I believe again Pops did a lot to.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
Do with that.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
I mean, that's that's the least kept secret in the room.
People just don't trust the family.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
It is what it is.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Yeah, I think to an extent.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
But if he if he was good, if he was
the best prospect on the board.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
He would have went number one. So, I mean the
NFL just wants to win.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
They don't care about narratives and dealing with They've dealt
with bad parents and guys with egos, and I mean,
quite frankly, the good thing is, I mean, Schador Sanders
in a criminal They've dealt with guys who have been
beating their girlfriends, stealing stuff, you know whatever. If you
can help an NFL team win, they will draft you.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
They will. This was not a collusion.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
This was a mid level NFL prospect up for Mel
Kuiper and an arrogant father who's probably gonna look for
people to get fired to take the job. So I
was king quarterback his son. Short of that, that's the storyline. Yeah,
I don't. You didn't need a deep scene.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Of conversation about this.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
Yeah, it's it's it's not that deep. He was a
second third round pick on a lot of people's board.
He went in the fifth. Quinn Ewers was a third
fourth round pick on a lot of people's board. He
went in the seventh round. Yeah, So I mean it happens.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Yeah, And by the way, just because you consider yourself
a draft analyst does not mean the NFL war rooms
believe you're a draft analyst. Yeah, mel Kuiper sounded like
he was taking it personal. Mel Kuiper was taking it personal,
and I don't get it. Are you really going to
fall on your sword for Shador Sanders of all, I
mean he was fighting with people on his set on ESPN.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
Over the weekend. That's how bad it got.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
I think, you know, Matt, if you take a hardline stance,
and I think we see this in politics and other
things too, you have to Your only options are to
be a believe you're wrong and you don't know what
you're talking about, or be say it's a conspiracy.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
And mel Kuiper went with be because it's harder to
admit the truth.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Yeah. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
And again I've known mel and I used to do
a weekly show way back in the day before ESPN
took all of his time away and was really good, interesting,
very good on the radio, A guy ross you'd want
to sit and talk to, I mean, very affable person.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
But this year he lost his damn mind mm hmmm
over Shaudur sand.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Shadure Sanders, really yeah, I mean he's he will be
remembered for this. If Shadoor is a decent NFL quarterback,
he's gonna have the greatest I told you souls than ever.
If he's wrong and he's nothing more than a backup
quarterback or a guy that moves from team to team
to team to team, why would I trust mel Kiper's
credibility for anything, because he spent the entire every time
(07:51):
I turned it on, it was about him arguing with
Reece Davis overs it wasn't crazy, And yeah, the last
time I remember him stumping for a guy that felt
like this was Jimmy Clauson. So ooh, but nobody nobody
gets one hundred percent of the draft picks, right, So
I mean, we'll see.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
But nobody does.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
But yeah, nobody also spends thirty six hours debating.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
The one guy. I mean, God, don't you just move
along and say, all right, I told you guys know
how I feel. Let's get at the rest of the draft.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Yeah, he he's putting his reputation on the line on
shore standers career, So we'll see how it goes, all right,
Astros get a I mean a huge bomb from your
to on Alvarez yesterday as they I finally excuse me
to take the final game of the series front.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
They decided to score a run in Kansas City.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
I like that.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Kansas City, by the way, good baseball team. It is
just beautiful watching a game.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
Kalf Stadium has got that classic look for sure.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Problem is it's it's in the middle of nowhere. I
mean you can't.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
It's you know how these new downtown stadiums and you
connect everything. It's it's arrowheads next to it, and it's
a beautiful complex of two huge stadiums, but there's nothing
around it.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
Huh. So you have you.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
It's definitely one of those citys you have to get
a car or be willing to spend a pretty significant
uber money on that. So we have a lot to
get to today. I want you all to chime in
be a part of this radio show. Seven one three
two one two five seven ninety is how you reach
the program. If you want to get in, let me
give you the number again and everything is up for
grabs in terms of conversation. Seven one three, two one
(09:22):
two five seven nine zero. Astros get some production this weekend.
The Rockets play game number four tonight here in San Francisco.
The Texans go heavy wide receiver in the draft, heavy
on the outside of the offensive line, and do not
even address the instanterior of the offensive line. Thankfully, we
(09:44):
have Ross to break it down for us, as he
will give us his draft grade. On the radio show today,
we mentioned Shador Sanders everything and by the way, more
NBA officials saying oops, we goofed up. We're sorry.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
Doesn't do a whole lot for me, does it to you?
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety with Ross
in Houston. I'm Matt here in San Francisco with a word.
Ten seventeen Matt Thomas Show Ross, I'm here in San Francisco.
Ross back in our iHeart Studios, back in h Town.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
(10:21):
one three two one two five seven ninety If you
want to jump in, we have a warrior's voice.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
Ten.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Boy's gonna stop by again with us in visit with
us at eleven thirty today, get his perspective so far
through the first three games of the series. And then
we will also have a move to tell the truth
to twelve thirty today, so we'll have that for you
coming up today, and then of course we got to
believe it or not at one fifty. All right, Ross,
you are a sports fan beyond being a broadcaster. As
you sit here with a cup of tea in your
(10:48):
hand or whatever you have to be drinking back in Houston,
what's the first thing in your mind of what when
you get to in terms of a busy sports week.
Speaker 4 (10:54):
Oh man, Uh, whether or not one hundred men could
defeat one gorilla in a fight?
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Now, I saw that with your poll question. Where am
I missing this?
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Yeah, it was all over Twitter. I guess it was
in my four you tab but not yours. It was
uh yeah, you probably had a bunch of OnlyFans models
in your four you tab, but I had maybe accurate.
But that's really not my conversation to have right now. Yeah,
that was taking over the internet. We could debate that
later on in the show. I was just joking.
Speaker 4 (11:22):
I'm gonna go with I mean, yeah, like you said,
it was the astro stuff going on the draft. But
it's playoff time, so I'm locked in on the Rockets
right now. In game number four, a pivotal game number
four tonight, Rockets three and a half point underdogs.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
We'll see what happens with Jimmy Butler.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
So were you, and I'll use the term exasperated over
the fact that, Yes, Warriors won a game with Jimmy
Butler not on the floor. It was extremely frustrating, especially
they they started Quinton Post.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
They wanted to.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Clearly they knew that they were having some issues on
the boards and issues dealing with Outprenching. So starting Quinton
Post and having him on Aman Thompson allowed Draymond Green
to take Alprinching Goon on one on one. It was
a great adjustment by Steve Kerr and out of necessity
because Jimmy Butler was out, so Draymond Green could guard
Alprynching Goon one on one and did a pretty good
(12:16):
job on him. And then Quinton Post could provide some
help down there because you can just sag off of
Amn Thompson. And so what the Rockets did, I don't
think it was necessarily in the game plan, but the
way it unfolded was that that meant Amn Thompson had
a lot of space to operate with Quinton coast on him,
and he just couldn't take advantage of it.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
He went five for sixteen. So Alprinching Goon missed a
lot of buckets in the paint. You went nineteen out
of night. You can't go nineteen to forty eight in
the paint, you just can't. They went nineteen of forty
eight in the paint and Alpryching Gooon and Amn Thompson
missing a lot of those.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
Now, credit by the way.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
Also not to interrupted, but they also went five or
fifteen on second chance opportunities. That's one of the things
they've lived off of is the offensive rebound and put backs. Yeah,
and a lot of those I'm sure were in the paint.
So yeah, it so credit to the Warriors for playing
good paint defense.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
But a'm in and Alburn especially need to be better.
Speaker 6 (13:06):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
Jalen Green was missing threes and he wasn't aggressive, but
that was because a lot of the shots did go
to the guys down low. And you just add that
all up and it was a disappointing game. And oh,
by the way, on the other side, Rockets did a
really good job defensively. But Steph Curry is just an alien.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
Thirty six points, nine assists, seven rebounds.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
He was special.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
Nobody in the Rockets was even, I mean above, Jabari
Smith Jr. Had twelve points. You know, people are talking
about him like, oh yeah, he had a good game.
He's had twelve points off the bench. It's not like
he'd liked that. He lit the world up. Nobody scored
over twenty. Nobody was special. Nobody rose above what the
Warriors were throwing at them. Steph Curry rose above what
the Rockets are throwing at them, and they won the game.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
I think the term that I'm going to steal off
of you is special. You have to win a playoff
game in a playoff series, be special. Jalen Green in
game number two was special. He took over the game
and did things that made him the guy that the
Rockets extended and you say, all right, I can build
the team around him.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
That was a special performance.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
They were You know, if Jabari Smith was your most
effective in terms of on the court player, that's not
going to be great.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
It's not gonna be enough.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
Yeah, he was a nice three of five from three.
Twelve points, five rebounds is good.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
Yeah, hits the mid range nicely.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
That's not good.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
I don't know what's happened with men, but a men's
mid range is and like going right now at this point, I.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
Never thought it was that great.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
I mean, I think he's he's best, like running down
to the basket. And I think it's the Warriors. It's
been drilled in them. They're they're very prepared. This happens.
You know, you play in the in the season, Matt,
you play three games at four nights. That third team
isn't ready for for Amen Thompson, Like they know that
he can't shoot, but there it's not drilled into them.
In a seven game playoff series with days off in between.
Everybody on that Warrior squad knows sag off of men
(14:54):
Thompson make him beat you ten to fifteen feet and
he can't do that consistently at this stage of his career.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
And for a guy that doesn't shoot much inside except
for inside fifteen fet, he's only forty one percent from
the floor in the series, right Yeah, And then Fred
got going really early in the first quarter. I think
he would have had thirteen and then finishes with just
seventeen points.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
The night it was I was odd, how I thought,
you know, because there have been some nights where friend
has taken over hitting it's five or six threes, and
you're like, all right, if that's what that's what the
Rock is gonna do this night, let's go for it.
I thought Dylan had a good start as well, but
he got in the foul trouble really quickly in the game.
The double Bigs worked for a while. Unfortunately, free throw
line was not their friend. Fourteen of twenty four from
(15:38):
the line at fifty eight percent.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
And going back to the most essential thing about anything
talking about Golden State, Steph Curry in theory, not literally
but figuratively, is unstoppable. When he wants to take over
a game, he does so. Yeah, and.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
You do.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
Coach Udoka tried to take him out of the game.
They blitzed him a lot and double teamed him a
lot on pick and rolls, and and it was effective
for a little bit, but they adjusted to it. They
found what they did was they on those pick and rolls,
they had Gary Payton get running basically on a on
a runway and then Steph Curry finding him running to
the basket and he got a couple of easy baskets
(16:16):
that way.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
On the flip side, Jalen.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
Green was getting blitzed and double teamed and that's one
of the reasons he only got eleven shots up because
he they were just taking the ball out of his
hands and the Rockets did not adjust to it as
well as the Warriors adjusted on the other side. Yeah,
our bunny on Twitter all texting, no tweeting, says that
teams that go up three to one win the series.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
They don't say that out loud. All right, I'll just
keep it in myself. I will not mention it again
between now and two of.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
You could say it, because it's it's the harsh reality.
Is a very important game tonight. You can get there,
get this win and come home and you have If
you could get this win and have three game series
with two of them at home, oh man, it would
just change a complexion so much because right now I'm
not feeling super optimistic.
Speaker 2 (16:59):
And I and I hate to say this, but there's
and and the new regime doesn't understand this, but us
ogs know this. There's been nothing pleasant about playing Golden
sat in the playoffs for ten years.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Yeah. And Fred, he's like, that's not our team, that's
not us.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Well, yeah, Fred, I I get it, But Fred, you've
also had there's bad things in your life.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
That. I say, oh, Fred, you get past that.
Speaker 6 (17:22):
Now.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
We we as Rocket fans don't want to. We have
a hard time with this. Noah, we will literally will
take on it. We're like Lakers, don't care. You got Lebron,
you got Luca, you got James Harden and Kawhi Leonard
and I bit's a zoobots and Norm Powell and like Clippers,
I know, big worries on that Minnesota and Edwards. You
(17:42):
got Rudy Gobert, you got Nasreen. I will take that.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
I didn't want to play him.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
Yeah, And again it's it's just it's a it's a
byproduct of history and right, Fred is different than every
team is built differently. This team is the best team
it's been, at least in the last handful of years.
But there's just something about Golden State, something about Steph Curry,
something about Draymond Green, something about getting in fracases and
foul trouble and altercations and talel throwing and whatnot that
(18:11):
I just don't like it.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
I just don't.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
Yeah, And that's the two biggest reasons they won on
Saturday was Draymond's defense and Steph Curry being special.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
And you know how many times have you seen that.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
I need Outpa to get right in Draymond's face and
go after him and just do what you can the
pull ups, in the finesse shots, and oh there's just
times I just want I want Alpa to be the
consistent low block. Put your ass of the backsket, jump,
pook your way, slides it because your footwork is so incredible.
(18:42):
And I know Draymon is an excellent defender for being
six foot six, and you could do that against Post
or you may be able to do it against Draymond Green.
But there's got to be a little happy medium here, right.
Speaker 4 (18:51):
Yeah, he needs to be more aggressive, like you said,
but I think a couple of things. Uh, Draymond Green
is really strong, and also he does a good job
of poking the ball away and just stifling outbrnching Goon.
Speaker 1 (19:04):
Yeah, yeah, I agree with you on that. All right.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
Uh So let's get to a more positive thing. How
about the Local nine winning yesterday against Kansas City. We'll
have Jordan and company do their thing and Hunter Brown.
There was an interesting story today about Hunter Brown's future
contract in the Athletic Today.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
We're going through that a little bit as well.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety If you
want to join our program today, we're with you till
two o'clock. We'll talk with a Voice of the Warriors
at eleven thirty to tell the Truth at twelve thirty,
Believe It on at one fifty, and back to Ross
and Houston to talk about how we need to get
our energy ready for tonight and for the future. Seven hits,
(19:42):
one run, struck out nine.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
His Scorla streak is over it. He's four and one
Rossly with an ernie of one point two to two.
Speaker 7 (19:55):
Good.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
It's really good. Brian King was human you yesterday. Boker
gave you a good eighth. Taylor Scott in the ninth.
It's fine.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
It's all right. Taylor and the show, friend of big Time,
Friend of the show big Time. I mean he when
he as soon as he became a US citizen, he's
like a first time gonna do is gotta celebrate and
call the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
That's true.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
Unfortunately we missed the call.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
We missed you know, we must have been missed. Been
the internet issues at our office. You only gave up
one run. It's fine, he's not been good so far,
that's okay. His ernie right now is five and a half.
I mean he's in a fifth sixth inning role right now.
Brian King's locking it down and then a brave you hater.
All right, you're on hits homer number three of the season.
That's nice, but that was a mess. Not easy to
(20:45):
hit home runs there.
Speaker 4 (20:46):
Yeah, he's been hitting bombs or I mean he's been
scalding the ball, as they say, Matt a lot of
high exit vl.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
Oh. Yeah, that XBA is crushing.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
It's looking good. It's a good sign, all right.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
So the Astros who don't score anything in the first
two games with series score seven, that's just crazy how
baseball works, isn't it. I mean, you can't buy a
run in the first two games, and you explode for
a couple of crooked numbers in the game yesterday.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
Beautiful, as we said, of course, met as you say that's.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
Baseball, you also say it's the most unpredictable game. Yes,
all right.
Speaker 2 (21:19):
So our friend of the show, channel Rome puts out
a mail bag every week on Mondays, and I was
looking at before the show started. Somebody asked about you
know what they should do about Hunter Brown, and Hunter
has gone through This will be Scott Boris and now
his third agent in the last two years and apparently
in last year. This is according to Hunter to a
(21:41):
Chandler story, it's that the Astros got a phone call
from somebody representing Hunter Brown or whatever agency was at
the time and said, hey, do you want to talk
about maybe buying out some arbitration And apparently the Astros
did not send a refer the conversation was minimals what
from one I understand reading the story, So, I mean
(22:02):
it would be in their best interest to maybe trying
to have that conversation soon. Yeah, it might be a
little late now. Scotty Bees like, oh you got my
number now, Hondana. Yeah, And I think that Scott Borris
did respond and said hashtag betting on himself.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
So yeah, he'd probably come up with some lame He's
always coming up with some lame things. And the phrases
in turns of phrase and catch phrases for his players.
What was he saying about Alex Bregman. He's like, oh,
he's got gold glove.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
And he's got this, and that he'll play any position possible. Yeah,
I haven't seen his ass anywhere but third base so far.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
Yeah, Astros game and a half out of first place,
Seattle in first place in.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
America League West. Did you see the way the Texas
San Francisco game ended yesterday?
Speaker 2 (22:52):
I thought a literally broke game broke out. It was
literally the hashtag literally he could home run. Let me
tell you what drove me nuts as a little league dad. Okay,
when these mothers are like, my boy hit a big
home run today, I'm like, Oh, did he hit it.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
To like over the left center field wall? Was a
straightaway shot?
Speaker 2 (23:11):
No, he goes It was a ground ball of the picture,
and he threw it out to right field, and then
when the right fielder threw it to the left fielder,
he went all the way around. I was so happy
he got he got four bases. That was his first
home run of the season. And I would argue with
these moms for a while, and then I just stopped arguing.
I would turn my back, walk the other direction, swear
a lot, and then come back and watch the game.
Speaker 3 (23:34):
And let's score that inn e one e nine, e
six home run.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Yeah, the old obligatory unearned run. But it was really
comical how bad. They lost the game yesterday. Yeah, that's great.
What a shame.
Speaker 1 (23:49):
What a shame. By the way, a lot of folks
if I always asked about what it's like.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
Coming to a game here in San Francisco. It's a
great ballpark. And I know if you've been here, ROSSI you're not.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
But under no circumstances you go at night, not because
it's dangerous, it's just because it's.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
Oh because cold, bitch and cold. Oh, you'd be fine.
Put a sweater on. I tried to. I put a
parka on, and I was tasting my own snot it
was terrible, all right.
Speaker 3 (24:12):
See, those are the details we don't need.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
But you go to a game at one o'clock, very pleasant,
It says the lowest fifty one right now. Yeah, I mean,
I'm just say it with it. Come on, you get
to twelve forty five one o'clock, you're fine. Sixty five
degrees perfect light breeze. Come out of my cubby cove.
Seven o'clock at night. You're in a parka, you're got
(24:35):
socks up to your knee caps. You know what if
shivering gets not all over your face, it's a pleasant sight.
The Marked Twain quote or I think it's falsely credited
to him. The coldest winter I ever spent was a
summer in San Francisco.
Speaker 1 (24:47):
M God, you know what you are?
Speaker 3 (24:49):
You are mister Bay Area?
Speaker 1 (24:51):
Am I putting songs on? Oh?
Speaker 2 (24:53):
That's true? Reciting Mark Twain quotes nothing. How are things
out there? You haven't got attacked by a homeless person?
Speaker 1 (24:59):
Have you? I have no.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
Actually that is a little bit overblown. I have had
no problems at this point. Okay, good now, grant. I'm
also in a very affluent part of downtown San Francis. Yeah,
that's true.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
A lot of shaking aheads, Rossy yesterday, Just a lot
of shaking heads.
Speaker 4 (25:16):
Oh you're in your Rockets crew, Yeah, I know, especially
you guys want to keep getting paid Ross.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
Hey me too. Misses out there like that? Hey me too?
Speaker 2 (25:28):
DraftKings pick six use, let's go Rockets stay in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
By the way, Bat will get bored to more of
the Rockets. A little bit. Happy ten year anniversary in
service time for Ross. You ready for this?
Speaker 3 (25:44):
We've got ten years of service time.
Speaker 1 (25:46):
Go ahead. I want to say you can guess. You
get two guesses?
Speaker 2 (25:49):
Uh, Christian Walker, No, Uh.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
Let me think I'm just gonna look, I'm just trying
to pull up the.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
No not no, it is. It's a sneaky ten years,
sneaky ten years. Taylor's could know, not Taylor Scott, I
don't know say who it is.
Speaker 1 (26:10):
Lance mccollors.
Speaker 4 (26:11):
Oh, using the light use of the word service time.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
Well, I mean it is what it is.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
He's you know, it's more ten years of hanging out
time ten years.
Speaker 1 (26:23):
But out of this weekend was good.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
I mean, got up the higher pitch count, so I
think he's gonna make one more rehap start says to
Dana Brown, and.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
Thenybe you me back before you know. It's so m okay,
I think I.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
Had May fifteenth. I'm gonna be right around that area.
Don't you think maybe I may lose.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
The You're gonna lose.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
And it's only good only because he got a stomach bug,
and only because he got the runs.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
Yeah, we can all get those occasionally, you know what
I mean?
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Yeah, but hey, good start over the weekend we got
five innings pitch to shut out ball and now was
double a hitters, but still right better than him giving
up five Arnie. Yeah, and then unfortunately I wake up
yesterday morning with some two hours behind you guys, with
Forrest Wooley's back on the injury list. Yeah, he got
a knat was a knee bruise. Yeah, needs something going on,
(27:10):
you know, come on fast?
Speaker 1 (27:13):
How much Forest? How much? How much? How much potential?
Uh service? I'm could he have had over his career
at this point? True? It is what it is.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
Seven one, three, two, two five seven ninety Astros start
a series with the Detroit Tigers tonight.
Speaker 1 (27:29):
AJ Hinching Company in town for the first time since
Rossi last October. We have to talk about what happened then.
It was almost like.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
They didn't even really count in our world, right, I mean,
you don't lose in whimpering two little wild card games, right,
That's not what you're supposed to do.
Speaker 1 (27:47):
You're the Astros.
Speaker 3 (27:48):
Yeah, well, let me go to ALCS at a minimum.
Speaker 4 (27:51):
I think it's ridiculous that you can, for one hundred
and sixty two games, win your division and be out
in two games. But that's because Baseball wants more wild cards,
because they want more money.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
Everybody wants more money, including the NFL, who decided over
the weekend that we're thinking about playing eighteen international.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
Games in the future.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
Really, that is a super gut feeling I had from
many years ago.
Speaker 1 (28:15):
Because again, Ross, they're tapped out of US.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
I mean, unless you just build up the eighteenth game
and you give you know, you get more money out
of the TV networks. But sure of that, what else
are they gonna do to grab more of the American
sports dollar.
Speaker 4 (28:27):
I think they they need to figure something out with
these local broadcasts.
Speaker 2 (28:33):
Meaning what I mean, well, yeah, some of the the
regional sports networks. I've been having some issues across. But
what do you have to do with the NFL though.
Speaker 4 (28:42):
Oh, I'm sorry you're talking about NFL. I'm sorry I
misunderstood you.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
No, nope, nope, they're gonna have eighteen games. Apparently internationally
they're thinking about going taking some teams to Asia two.
Do you know it's gonna screw up their bodies for
like weeks.
Speaker 1 (28:59):
They don't care. No, I don't care. Get some more cash.
Talk to James on seven ninety at ten forty high. James.
Speaker 8 (29:07):
Yeah, it doesn't take a rocket scientist figure out what
Steve Curr's doing. He's shutting down the paint and making
this for it is forced us to hit three point shots.
Speaker 9 (29:16):
I don't know.
Speaker 8 (29:17):
I know we have the best one, one of the
best coach in the NBA. It seems like they spread
out their offense. They could drive to the basket of something.
We're gonna get that paint back, or we're not gonna
win tonight.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
It Uh yeah, there's I think the whole part of
the basketball floor needs to be better.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
Thanks for the phone call.
Speaker 4 (29:32):
Yeah, they are packing the paint because I mean, look this,
that's what they're gonna do when you have a men
Thompson isn't a shooter, al Prnching Goon isn't a shooter,
and then Jalen Green Fred Vanvliet are not reliable shooters.
So at any given point you can have four people
can't who aren't shooting well on the floor. So yeah,
they're gonna pack the paint.
Speaker 1 (29:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
Yeah, it's funny because you see, when it's a men
in the middle of the paint, they sag off and
you you've used the term a couple of times, but
it's literally a two step drop. It's hey, we're gonna
give you the open space. Why don't you try to
knock that fifteen down foot mid range against us?
Speaker 4 (30:04):
Yeah, start Quentin Post starts backpedaling like he's a corner
and playing off coverage. Right, He's just like a pre
event defense on an NBA courters Crazically, he gives him
as much room as he wants. And then so Quentin
Post is so big that Men Thompson isn't gonna be
able to like dunk on him, and he can't. He
can't go past him because of how far he's backing up.
So he has to pull up from around ten feet
(30:26):
and he has to make those well.
Speaker 1 (30:27):
Quentin Posts. It didn't do much shooting and has not
done so much in series, but he had twelve rebounds
in the game on Saturday, Ross thoms and most has
ever had in a game in his rookie season. So
postseason or regular season.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
Yeah, So we'll see what happens with Jimmy Butler and
how they shuffle the starting lineup with that. And he's
ten forty eight on Sports Talk seven ninety Chris Gordy
with us here as he is from Monday. Stop by
and we are with you until two o'clock today. We'll
visit with Tim Roy, the voice of the Golden State Warriors.
Coming up at eleven thirty Gordy, We're gonna be confused
(31:00):
between the Jalen, the Jaden's and the Jalens that are
now wearing Houston Texans gear.
Speaker 10 (31:06):
Yeah, that was a little bit of a gamble, right,
taking two wide receivers from one school. I mean, look,
I know they like both of them, but like that
just that felt very odd to me, And they need
wide receiver help. We obviously we don't know an official
timeline on Tank Dell and if and when he'll be back.
I mean most people kind of are expecting he's gonna
(31:28):
be out for all of the season, if not a
majority of it with that gruesome knee injury. But two
wide receivers from the same school and the same draft
and the second and third round, I just I don't know, man,
I'm like, there was nobody else like you took Jayden
Higgins and then you looked all around the entire league
and there was no other wide receiver that you liked
other than Jalen Noel.
Speaker 1 (31:47):
I mean, if it works out, it works out great.
That just felt very weird to me.
Speaker 2 (31:51):
Well that first of all, they're preparing for a life
without Tank, They're preparing for a life without Xavier Hutchinson.
They're preparing for a life without John Rossy. They chose
no interior alignment in this group here. Yeah, a bit
of a shock, but I guess to what Gordy was
talking about. It seems like they were just staying true
(32:12):
to their board, like they said, Matt, and they didn't
want to reach for anything.
Speaker 4 (32:16):
And I think if you weren't in a situation where
you're staying true to your board, you probably don't take
two wide receivers from the same school. And then they
didn't feel like they could find anybody that they liked
on the interior of the line. The good news is
is generally, I mean throughout the years, you'll be able
to find guys on the interier a lot easier than
you can at tackle.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Well, I think this screams.
Speaker 10 (32:38):
I mean, like this screams to me, Titus Howard, you
are a left guard, like you're not playing tackle. It's
going to be Nursery is going to compete for one
of those tackle spots. Blake Fisher is probably going to
be right tackle. We'll see what Cam Robinson and Trent
Brown do. But to me, this is a clear sign
Titus Howard, go get your asset guard.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
That's where you are now.
Speaker 2 (32:58):
I wonder how much of it boys was also you
know that deep conversation CJ had with his new offensive
coordinator and with Demiko and said, look, Nico Collins is special,
but the rest of the guys around me are not
going to pose any threat to any corners and secondary guys.
Speaker 1 (33:15):
In the NFL.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
We got to be a little more explosive because granted,
again I'm only looking at Iowa State YouTube highlights. There's
no chance I'm spending a long time watching Iowa State games.
But the guys who put together some good numbers, I mean,
they were not under positioned or picked up wise. They
were supposed to be where they were draft wise, based
off grades and whatnot. So it was just a clear
focus to get a little more explosive because, honestly, and
(33:37):
I love Tankdale more than life itself, if Tank Dell
ever plays series football again for the Texans, it would
be a gain considered bonus, because I just don't think
that frame of his is gonna build a state with
stand playing a seventeen game schedule.
Speaker 10 (33:51):
Well, this to me is where we look at John
Betchi and Xavier Hotchinson and say, are one of you
guys ready to take this next leap, you know, because
Higgins and Noel are coming in to push them and
and they're coming in to try to play. I think
I'm pretty resigned. In fact, Braxton Barrios is just gonna
be a special teams guy. I don't think they foresee
him playing a ton of wide receiver. We'll see on
(34:11):
Justin Watson.
Speaker 7 (34:12):
You know.
Speaker 10 (34:12):
Christian Kirk is gonna play, but isn't he on like
a one year deal, So I don't know how much
they're expecting him to be a massive contributor. But this
whole thing's wide open. I mean, I like, if I'm CJ. Stroud,
I'm getting on the phone with all these guys right now,
going guys voluntary OTAs. I need all y'all there. We
got to start developing this chemistry and get going here.
But I do like what they did with the running back.
(34:33):
I like Woody Marks. He was he was a really
nice contributor Assissippi State for four years before he went
to USC this past year and I got to see
him in person and the opener against LSU and USC one.
But yeah, he like, that's a nice pass catching back,
you know, when he originally got there when Mike Leach
was a Mississippi state where they don't run the football
a ton, So that's why his rushing totals weren't weren't
(34:55):
that high. But over a thousand yards rushing at USC
this year, but a great pass catching back out of
them back. I think he'll be a nice compliment to
Joe Mixon. So run game good. I think offensive line
should be solid. I like Eli Cox two by the way,
SEC guy playing backup center. But to me, if I'm stroud,
I need these wide receivers in camp and I need
(35:15):
to start develop in that chemistry.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
Ariane Ersrie I thought they call him Tay Rossa.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
Make sure you knew that.
Speaker 2 (35:23):
Yeah, I like to pick it's one of their basically
a top five tackle on everybody's board.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
He looks the part.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
He certainly does, and the winning marks highlights were very
impressive when I saw him being drafted too.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
So if I'm Damian Pearce.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
I'm not looking for real estate in Houston, and with
taking Graham Mertz, do you does do you start thinking
about moving Davis Mills?
Speaker 10 (35:48):
Probably? I look I like Mertz a lot. I've interviewed
him a couple of times. He is an awesome interview,
Like if we ever get a chance to have him on,
like you'll you'll fall in love with his personality.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
But as a football player.
Speaker 10 (35:58):
He's a little mid And guys, what does it say
about Quinn Yours that he fell as far as he did?
To me, that was one of the biggest storylines. Shador
got all the conversation. But I mean, I'm literally at
the Cotton Bowl talking to guys on the field before
that game with Texas and in Ohio State, and these
national reporters are telling me they have reports that Quinn
(36:18):
Yours had three to four million dollars nil deals on
the table from other schools and he turned them down
because he said, I'm going pro. And he goes to
the seventh round where he's gonna get four million total
over four seasons. That's a million a year to back
up two or third string practice squad with the Dolphins. Like,
to me, that's like you took Graham Mertz. I had
a Quinn Yours that that was shocking to me, how
(36:40):
much how far Quinn fell.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
That's why Ross if your viewers and you know that
Arch is gonna take over there don't you just go
sell yourself the highest bidder and go say, hey, look,
I've been a starting quarterback. I've been to a national
semifinal for two straight years. I gotta be worse more
than what I'm getting right now or what I'm projected as.
Speaker 1 (36:59):
A draft pick.
Speaker 4 (37:00):
I said this at the end of the year when
people were saying quin Ewers was going to transfer, and oh,
he's going to go to this school or that school
he's got offers. I said, no, Now you don't, maybe
not don't believe that quin Owers is.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
An NFL talent. Maybe I don't. Clearly the NFL, to
it ex does not. But quinn Ewers believes he is.
So he believed in himself. He bet on himself. Right
now he's losing. He has the opportunity to win, but
it's not looking likely right now. A lot of seventh
round picks don't don't pan out in the NFL. So well,
that remains to be seen, all right. That's Gordy hanging
on with us. He does so every Monday and Friday
at this time, and got some Astros.
Speaker 1 (37:34):
Baseball coming up of this week. Gordy back inside dik
And Park at eleven o'clock get Age two.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
This is our number two of the Back Thomas Show
with Ross. We take this program today until two o'clock.
We've got three hours left to go. We thank all
of you for spending part of your day with us.
Hopefully it be with us all the way until two o'clock. Well,
we will mix in everything that has been a very
busy sports weekend. That includes the Rockets lose Saturday night
(38:00):
to Golden State to fall two games down to one,
the astroisk salvaging the series finale Sunday in Kansas City
to lose that series two games to one. But back
home for Detroit, we've got the NFL Draft, the Texans
going with a lot of offense with backup running backs
and wide receivers and a backup quarterback. They do get
himself to tackle in the second round, but they do
(38:21):
not address anything on the interior.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
And uh, you know it felt.
Speaker 2 (38:26):
Like to me and we will gain all mix over
a variety of different things here that the media that
went to Casario's little shin dig after each day, Ross
he was kind of getting cranking with him a little bit.
Speaker 1 (38:37):
He's like, you know what, let me handle this, get
out of my way and I know what I'm doing.
Speaker 2 (38:41):
And leave me alone. I'm gonna be ry New England
of him. I'm gonna be honest with you, man. I
didn't hear a whole lot of Nick Cassario, but I did.
Speaker 1 (38:47):
Don't. We're not gonna play it sound by it's terrible, but.
Speaker 2 (38:50):
I did hear. I saw some people on Twitter, like
national media talking about him being combative and like just
looking like he was didn't care to be there for
media availability, Like I'm so much smarter than you guys,
why are you here asking me questions?
Speaker 1 (39:04):
He gives that vibe off immediately every single time.
Speaker 2 (39:07):
Yeah, and if you won World Series and you've won
Super Bowls and you won NBA Championships, you're kind of
allowed to do that. That's what the New England way was.
But here, he's not gotten this team past the division
around of the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (39:20):
He's got super Bowl rings, Matt please, Actually he did
get this.
Speaker 2 (39:25):
He did easter being up to go check out a
Super Bowl ring in New England and got the slot
by the NFL and said get your ass out of here. Yeah,
he is a company's clambay. Six time Super Bowl champion
Nick Casario speaking of that, and I don't know if
we can pull the audio. Maybe we can do it
a little bit later on. And I didn't tell you
about this aheat a time, but okay, there is a
(39:46):
show on CBS. It's been on Sundays called Sunday Morning.
I as, yeah, I saw this go ahead.
Speaker 1 (39:53):
My assumption is.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
Most people that are non sports fans, it's not a
sports show. It's a general news events, very light hearted,
it's got a little it's.
Speaker 1 (40:03):
Got a Sunday morning vibe to it.
Speaker 2 (40:05):
But one of the things they do which is really
outstanding is they do they get some really good celebrity interviews.
They've interviewed people from politicians to old TV stars to
like musicians, and it's I like the show personally because
it's there's no agenda to it.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
It's just it's a Q and a kind of thing.
Speaker 2 (40:24):
And they always have one really interesting guest where they
talk to. So I don't know if you folks have
salved this or not. And like I said, well, maybe
you pull the audio here in a little bit.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
But Bill Belichick was the subject of this week's Sunday
Morning interview on CBS, and they very rarely ever do
sports they do as much sports. It's like a sixty
minute type show does.
Speaker 2 (40:46):
So they're asking him a lot of questions about his
new book, and questions about the fact that Robert Kraft
is not being mentioned at all, talking about his days
in New England and the final days there, and now
he's in North Carolina. And the girlfriend gets brought up
and she's off of the camera, away from the camera,
but she's definitely in the same room. And the interviewer
(41:07):
ask Bill Belichick how he meets his twenty four year
old girlfriend. She says, don't answer that. I didn't realize
seventy two year old or seventy three year old, however
oldie is right now has to be nuted. But I
guess if you're getting twenty four year olds, you're got
(41:28):
to kind of be neuted.
Speaker 1 (41:29):
Right ross.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
I think we do have that. Actually, Okay, here, let's
hear it. Ah, sounds great to me.
Speaker 3 (41:37):
Jordan was a constant presence during our interview.
Speaker 1 (41:40):
You have Jordan right over there.
Speaker 2 (41:44):
Everybody in the world seems to be following this relationship.
They've got an opinion about your private life.
Speaker 3 (41:48):
It's got nothing to do with them, but they're invested
in it.
Speaker 2 (41:51):
How do you deal with that?
Speaker 1 (41:54):
Never been too worried about what everybody else thanks, just
to try to do what I feel like is that's
for me and what's right?
Speaker 2 (41:59):
How did you guys meet?
Speaker 1 (42:01):
Not talking about this?
Speaker 2 (42:03):
No, no, it's a topic.
Speaker 3 (42:05):
Neither one of them is comfortable commenting on.
Speaker 2 (42:11):
The Only thing I've ever seen is weren't they on
a plane together? I want to say, Ross, Yeah, So
that makes me think that that is a made up
story and they don't want it to come under scrutiny.
Speaker 1 (42:26):
Okay, so let's okay. Two things.
Speaker 2 (42:32):
They didn't rehearse it, and so if they didn't rehearse something,
then their stories could get mixed.
Speaker 1 (42:39):
That could be one of it or the other side
of it is it's just a flat out lie, and
they're going to keep how they met to themselves. Which
makes me then think.
Speaker 2 (42:52):
How does a typical seventy two year old man, now
Bell Belichick is not typical, one of the most successful
coach is an NFL history recognizable?
Speaker 1 (43:03):
Did he go to a website? Did he go to
somebody of a friend of a friend of a friend.
Speaker 2 (43:11):
I mean, I think it makes it sound five thousand
times seedier than saying we met on a plane, maybe
a grandchild's college graduation, Shannon sharp Way, which is only fans. Well,
he said he met her at the gym. That girl
the one that's suing him. But anyways, Uh yeah, a
(43:33):
couple of interesting things here. Did did she shut it
down because the story is already out how they met
and they don't want she doesn't want more scrutiny or
more talk about her. I think that's possible and that
we're just running with this or is there something more
to this? And because if there is, wouldn't they have
gotten their story straight a long time ago? Especially if
you know you're sitting down with CBS Sunday morning, that
(43:55):
is probably the subject's gonna come up, and you're gonna
be prepared for that. You even as life light hearted
ross is the Sunday Morning news report would be, they're
going to bring up the fact that there's nearly a
fifty year age difference. Anybody when that situation would be
asked about that? And how do you not go through
if he asked us this, or ask you this, this
(44:18):
is what you say. That's why I think it creates
way more controversy by her saying what she said off camera.
That's why I think that maybe we're making too much
of this because Bill Belichick and his attention to detail
in football is I'm sure it translates to his regular life.
They would be prepared for this question. I think she's
(44:38):
maybe like saying, you know, I don't want to be
the subject of this interview. And that's why she said,
we're not talking about this, okay, don't you think don't
you think Bill would be prepared for an answer. They
already put the answer out. Don't you think he would say, oh,
we met in a plane in exchange jumbers boom and
question answered.
Speaker 1 (44:55):
But she was so quick to it, and he's like
he didn't go, no, oh, it's okay. He didn't answer it.
Speaker 2 (45:02):
Well, that's because he will keep her happy. Let me
tell you something, not that I'm in a situation like that,
but there's be some guys out there listening to this audience.
It's seventy two years old, maybe down the road, maybe
not too long from now. You had a twenty four
year old.
Speaker 1 (45:18):
That want to spend time with you, You're gonna probably listen.
Speaker 3 (45:20):
To her right do whatever she says.
Speaker 1 (45:27):
You put you know, if she pulls on his chain,
he borrows what yep.
Speaker 3 (45:35):
She says jump. He says how high.
Speaker 2 (45:38):
Oh, she's the one kind of jumping more than he is.
Actually she's leaping. He's lucky to just get off.
Speaker 1 (45:44):
His v Yeah.
Speaker 3 (45:44):
I don't think he can sit up.
Speaker 1 (45:47):
I don't know. It felt very scorely how that thing
went down.
Speaker 3 (45:53):
It was weird.
Speaker 2 (45:54):
But like I said, they would have had their story
straight by now, So I mean, why can't he just
go We met on a plane and knowing Sunday Morning
Ross like I've watched over the years, it would have
been two or three questions and it probably would have
moved on. I mean, honestly, the most I think the
most interesting thing about that whole interview, except for what
that went down, was the fact that there was no
(46:16):
acknowledgment of Robert Kraft in Bill Belichick's book at all,
not zero and zilch, And when asked about it, he
just he went, mumsies.
Speaker 1 (46:25):
He didn't say a damn word about it.
Speaker 2 (46:29):
Mumsies. Mum's the word. I don't know, I made it up,
mums the word, yeah, Bell Belichick. Then later that night
he was dancing the childston Obviously they're pissed at each
other or one or it's a one way irritation.
Speaker 1 (46:46):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (46:47):
Yeah. It was curious for sure. And my first reaction
was was what everyone is like, did that just mean
they meant on OnlyFans, or she's an escort or or what.
But I could also just see a situation where if
they have their story straight by now, they yeah, their stories.
They've probably been asked that question a million times, So
it could be just her saying I don't want to
be the subject of this interview, we're not talking about this. Well,
(47:09):
then this she's stupid, because when you are an NFL
very famous person dating somebody almost fifty years younger than
you are, it's a conversation.
Speaker 1 (47:16):
Yeah, I'm sorry. You have to know that going in.
Speaker 3 (47:20):
Especially when you're hanging about at the interview.
Speaker 2 (47:22):
You're in the next you're you're down the room. You're
not you're in the same room, just offsetting in a couch.
Speaker 1 (47:27):
Yeah, I don't know. Well, let me tell you. If
I'm ever in that spot, watch you don't anticipate ever
being ross. M h. I'll listen to the twenty four
war old.
Speaker 3 (47:37):
Yep, she's got them, she's got them in her purse.
Speaker 1 (47:41):
That's right, all right. Seventh one three exactly. Well, she's
gotten a lot of person since then.
Speaker 2 (47:46):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two, one two five seven ninety If you
want to join our conversations today as we take you
to eleven thirty, when we get joined by the voice
of the Golden State Warriors.
Speaker 1 (47:58):
Uh, Tim Roy, all right, so this should were Sanders
stuff again. Uh.
Speaker 2 (48:03):
I've never in my life, and I've watched a lot
of drafts, not like every single pick. I'm a big
kind of shuer with the first day, not so much
second day. And I didn't even make any note of
the third day until sure got uh got picked by Cleveland.
By the way, how many quarterbacks of Cleveland I have
now like six or seven at this point.
Speaker 3 (48:21):
I think Joe Flacco is still there too.
Speaker 1 (48:23):
I believe that Bernie Coozar is being coaxed out of retirement.
You're gonna run the Browns.
Speaker 2 (48:27):
Brian Sipe is being asked to come back. I Vinnie
Testa Vernie is gonna be over there. Colt McCoy, yeah,
Tim Couch is being uh brought. I mean it's like there,
you can't have enough quarterbacks in the room. Apparently, says
the Cleveland What a horrible run the Browns have had
a quarterback? Yeah, it's uh, Deshaun Watson. Can you piket
Joe Flacco, Dylan Gabriel, Shador Sanders right now?
Speaker 1 (48:50):
So they took two quarterbacks in this draft. Mm hmm.
Speaker 2 (48:54):
Well, first of all, I don't think Deshaun's playing this year,
so we can take we can take him off the list. Yes,
and they're probably thinking Joe Flacco is good for a
couple of games, but he's going to falter and eventually
throw a bunch of interceptions and show his age. So,
needless to say, it's a it's a wide open quarterback
room in Cleveland.
Speaker 1 (49:10):
That's their own issue. Oh man, it's pretty funny.
Speaker 2 (49:12):
But I don't think you know how we have Facebook reels.
Twitter has reels where you can just scroll through and
see video after video.
Speaker 1 (49:20):
After the video after video. Well the og I think
his Instagram reels and TikTok. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (49:24):
I would say of the Twitter reels that I was
looking at this weekend, eight out of every ten were
about Shude or Sanders.
Speaker 1 (49:31):
I don't think in the history of the NFL ross
we've ever talked.
Speaker 2 (49:33):
About a fifth round quarterback as much as we've talked
about your door. Now we tom Brady has talked about
as a six round pick being the greatest of all time.
But nobody ever, nobody talked about Tom Brady that day
like they've talked about Shrude or Sanders the way that
we did this weekend. No, it was interesting, and I
think ESPN and well mel Kiper kept making a story
(49:55):
as well.
Speaker 3 (49:56):
Yep, Like Reese Davis is like, dude, can we move on?
Speaker 1 (50:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (50:00):
Meanwhile, the NFL networks like we're over here, We're talking
about everybody, and everyone's like, no, we want your door.
I didn't look at the morning TV shows Ross because
I intention didn't want to. But my guess is that
ninety percent it is about shudor Sanders today. This was
just really not travisty. They should do as Sander's failed
to the fifth round to the Cleveland Browns. Yeah, and
(50:21):
I'm like Goldberg, and I think I know everything Green Goldberg,
I know it doesn't matter. I just I had to
put on ABC's coverage because I just can't. He's a
tough watch for me.
Speaker 1 (50:33):
M M. Maybe I'm a tough people. I'm a tough
lost for some people. I get it, wouldn't you know?
Speaker 4 (50:37):
We all know we love the show. Matter at least
I do. I listened to you half the time. I
guess thank you.
Speaker 1 (50:44):
Are we on ktr H again tonight for the Rock
News Radio seven forty kay t r H. How he
calls in tonight postgame?
Speaker 2 (50:51):
Oh, we got a lot.
Speaker 4 (50:51):
Well, we moved the post games seven ninety. We're not
idiots smart. Yeah, we don't want people getting mad at
us because they're not getting their coast to coast right.
Speaker 3 (50:59):
So yeah, we got a lot of calls on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (51:03):
And it seems to always go that way when I
start off the When I start off the show, ranting
seems to get the calls to pour in.
Speaker 1 (51:11):
Well, hopefully you are not ranting.
Speaker 2 (51:14):
Let's just have a quiet No, we can do I'll
do post games. I love doing playoff post games, so
we can talk. We can take fifteen calls. I just
wanted to be fifteen happy calls.
Speaker 3 (51:22):
Let's go.
Speaker 1 (51:23):
It is a group chat Monday on the Matt Thomas
Show with Ross. Ross. What's in your group chat today? Anything?
Speaker 3 (51:30):
I'm going with one hundred men over one gorilla?
Speaker 1 (51:32):
All right, God, so let's do this right now?
Speaker 2 (51:35):
Lay it out for us, and then I will give
you my answer once you give us the question. Now,
obviously fatigue is going to be a factor for the
one gorilla.
Speaker 4 (51:42):
Now, of course, the first forty to fifty men have
no chance. I mean they've got no shot.
Speaker 1 (51:46):
I mean they're gotty types of thing.
Speaker 2 (51:47):
They're gonna get there.
Speaker 1 (51:48):
Now.
Speaker 3 (51:49):
See that's another question.
Speaker 4 (51:50):
Now, are we going with one hundred mes or like
one hundred Duwayne the Rock Johnson. That's gonna also factor
in Matt. But I think we're just gonna go with
one hundred average. I think enough this is what you
do now, and a brute strength one on one fight.
Speaker 3 (52:05):
You're you're gonna lose, right, But the men are gonna
have to fight dirty.
Speaker 4 (52:08):
We're talking about eye poking, eye gouging, throat punching, I
mean genital punching and or kicking. And see I think
that's how that's how you win. If you just get
one guy to get a pressure point or you know,
one kick in the nads and you can disable him
(52:31):
for a second and then everybody else goes for the
eye gouging, I think you.
Speaker 1 (52:34):
Can win, all right. So let's get to this.
Speaker 2 (52:36):
Now, let's talk about who these hundred people are yes,
Let's take the first one hundred people that enter the
Chase Center tonight in San Francisco, Males.
Speaker 1 (52:46):
Yeah, he's one hundred men versus on a gorilla, right,
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (52:50):
Okay, So the first hundred that is just random of
a group of people, you can get right, the first
one hundred people.
Speaker 4 (52:55):
Okay, if we're doing complete randoms, I mean the gorilla
is that tips the scales a little bit more in
the gorilla's favor.
Speaker 1 (53:01):
But like I said, those.
Speaker 2 (53:02):
One hundred, how many of them are going to be
able to take the gorilla down and hold him? No,
you're not holding the gorilla like I said, you're going
for eyes. You're going for eyes, ears, nose, throat, and nads.
Speaker 1 (53:17):
Are you? Now? Who wins? Does the gorilla have to
die or just have to be captured?
Speaker 4 (53:21):
Hmm, that's a good question too. I would say die,
are captured? Okay, we're going with captured. That's I don't know. Okay,
So let's go to the capture cart. How many men
would it take to hold the gorilla down until the
official came over and said, yes, one hundred men?
Speaker 3 (53:39):
Oh, like pin him like in a wrestling match.
Speaker 2 (53:41):
And know I'm just saying in general thing ending Let's see,
I think they're excuse me.
Speaker 3 (53:48):
One gorilla is about the strength of about ten men.
Speaker 11 (53:51):
They can lift up to one point five to two tons.
Speaker 1 (53:55):
That's pretty good. All right, put the three of us,
Huh would we be willing to no arm down? No?
Speaker 4 (54:01):
I don't think we could do it. Like I said,
it's gonna be fatigued. Now, yeah, full strength. There's no chance.
What you're gonna need is you're gonna need. If you're
gonna need, uh, you're gonna meeting about forty fifty martyrs.
Speaker 1 (54:13):
We thank you for your service. May you rest.
Speaker 4 (54:17):
We'll try not to bear you all when one hold together,
we'll try to give you all your different your own graves.
So they go down, and then and then everybody else
once the Once the gorilla is fatigued, like I said,
that's when you start poking eyes and whatnot.
Speaker 2 (54:31):
All right, we've had a thoughtful conversation about this. Yes,
I'm taking the gorilla nook. I can't fault you. I
understand because again I'm taking I have to go with
the random one hundred people and that.
Speaker 3 (54:42):
Yeah, if it's rand okay, what if it's one hundred
you have c fighters.
Speaker 1 (54:46):
Yeah, that'd be different.
Speaker 3 (54:48):
Does that change your answer?
Speaker 1 (54:49):
Yeah? Okay, But if.
Speaker 2 (54:53):
It says one hundred men, I'm gonna assume it's just
any hundred men the first on hundred people that walked
into Dike in Park tonight. Well yeah, what's this? Just
do able?
Speaker 1 (55:01):
Bodied? You know, I'm a scaredy cat. I would stay,
you would you would be you would take a loss
if it was I was one the one hundred, I'd
run away from the situation as fast as possible. No,
you don't have a choice, Matt.
Speaker 3 (55:12):
You gotta pick being eye poker or wait a minute, Jonathan,
you can't tell you what to do. I didn't say
I wasn't give up.
Speaker 1 (55:20):
So you're telling me there's like sixty of us after
this kick the gorilla's nads over and over.
Speaker 2 (55:24):
Yeah, you got a shot, and of wan of you
be successful. That's got to put him down for a minute.
When he's down for that minute, that's when you go
for the eyes, and that's when you go for the.
Speaker 1 (55:33):
Theo's gonna poke a gorilla's eyes. I want to know
who wants.
Speaker 2 (55:35):
To raise their hand and want to do that. Nobody's
gonna want to do any of this, Matt. It's a
fight to the death.
Speaker 1 (55:40):
Gorilla wins.
Speaker 3 (55:41):
Sorry, I think most people are with you.
Speaker 4 (55:45):
Let's let's check my Twitter poll at sports fifty gorilla.
Speaker 1 (55:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (55:55):
Now, if you go to a gym with a bunch
of meat heads, you got a better shot. Just Rando's
no chance.
Speaker 3 (56:06):
Go for the nuts. That is your group group text.
Speaker 2 (56:11):
That's our rally and cry. All right, man, we've got
this gorilla backed in a corner. There's a hundred of us.
Say it with me.
Speaker 1 (56:19):
Go for the nuts. Yep, yep, yep. Yeah.
Speaker 12 (56:27):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (56:27):
On my group chat, I got, I got. You know
how AI is doing some crazy things.
Speaker 3 (56:34):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 2 (56:35):
The Steph Curry at the press conference. AI is in
the group chat this Monday, this Monday morning.
Speaker 1 (56:39):
The what AI?
Speaker 2 (56:41):
The Steph Curry talking about going against the Rockets in
Game three?
Speaker 1 (56:45):
Oh I didn't, I didn't catch that. Thankful.
Speaker 2 (56:47):
We can't play any of it because, first of all,
it's eighty percent of it swear words. And second of all,
the thing it's so scary about it is is that
it's definitely Steph sounding health is moving like he I mean,
whatever they're doing to impose the words in the in
STEP's mouth. It's working too. It's ridiculously close. So I'm
(57:11):
sick of Steph Curry. I've been sick of Steph curry s.
And Steph Curry was leaving Davidson.
Speaker 1 (57:18):
Closing his eyes and throwing out these forty foot rain
makers and just go through the nylon and point one
through the clock.
Speaker 2 (57:25):
I mean, it's just God, He's so good, so good.
And you know what I think is even irritatingmore is
that little flippant, little underhand high off the top of
the backboard about the scoreboarding.
Speaker 1 (57:37):
Finger rolls the clock and her finger rolls right in
the basket too. He's good, man.
Speaker 2 (57:42):
People who just pigeonhole him as just a shooter are
wrong and not paying attention.
Speaker 1 (57:46):
Yeah, that is absolutely right. All right, let's check in
with the Warriors perspective. We'll do that next here on
the Matt Thomas Shold Ross.
Speaker 2 (57:53):
If you want to jump in and join us, please
do so at seven one, three, two, one, two, five, seven,
ninety seven one three to five, seven, nine, zero.
Speaker 1 (58:03):
Eleven, thirty of them Matt Thomas Show and Ross here
from San Francisco tonight, game number four, be your first
round series in the Rockets and Golden State.
Speaker 2 (58:11):
Golden State's up two games to one, and a second
time visitor of the show in the last ten days
or so on our good friend, the very talented longtime
voice of the Golden State Warriors, Tim Roy, is with
us here on seven ninety. Tim, first and foremost, there's
got to be a huge part of you that's got
to be thinking, no, Jimmy Butler, if we just get
(58:32):
a split of the series, we're gonna be fine. But
to get that win game number three, that has to
have Warrior fans, the organization yourself pretty happy about how
things turned out, especially with guys like Gary Payton and
Buddy Healed helping the cause on Saturday.
Speaker 9 (58:46):
Yeah, there's no question that was a big, big win
for the Warriors. You know, the dude without Jimmy, Jimmy
turned the whole season around.
Speaker 7 (58:53):
And so to do that.
Speaker 9 (58:55):
To get contributions from other guys, you know, when you're
in the playoffs, you get contributions from role players that
are big. You're you're more than likely you're gonna win
the game. And so yeah, it was it was a
big win. And I think that that they felt, you know,
I'm pretty sure nobody would say they want to go
back to TOO. But they if you had told them you
(59:15):
could go back to TOO, I think they would have
taken that. But but but you know, and now you
know from the warrior perspective, now it's trying to get greedy.
You know, Jimmy plays or not. If he does return,
which I think there's a chance of that tonight, then
I think you get greedy and try to go back
three one.
Speaker 1 (59:32):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 2 (59:33):
It's so funny looking at social media, Tim and you,
I'm sure you've seen it yourself. But the buddy healed
the crowd as a mixed crowd. He helps you out
one night and then you don't hear from him four
or five games.
Speaker 1 (59:43):
Is that how it's been so far as him as
a warrior, is that he you know, comes and goes.
Speaker 9 (59:49):
You know, on the floor, he comes and goes off
the floor. He's consistent, and he's good for this team.
He keeps everybody on, you know, loose. He's a funny guy,
he's a nice guy, and everybody loves Buddy. So his
contributions are more consistent off the floor than on the floor.
But but I think that's that's the way shooters are.
(01:00:09):
You know, he's not. You know, guys are who are
you know, great shooters tend to be a little streaky,
and Buddy is that there's gonna be a nights where
he's gonna be you know, four of seven and from three,
and there's gonna be nights where he's one of seven
from three, and so you have to kind of figure
out where.
Speaker 7 (01:00:26):
He is on particular nights.
Speaker 9 (01:00:28):
But but again, I think his contributions for this team
are really great off the floor that nobody dislikes Buddy.
Speaker 1 (01:00:35):
Heals.
Speaker 9 (01:00:36):
He and Jimmy Butler had this great thing where they
interrupt their press sessions and stuff where it's pretty humorous
if you listen to him all the time. But yeah,
I just think that's the way it is with shooters.
They tend to be kind of a streaky guy. And also,
I think in the playoffs it's harder for a guy
like Buddy to get going because you know, the other
(01:00:57):
team's been drilled over and over. Don't give him an
open shot, don't let him get comfortable be on the
three point line. So I think, you know, in playoff situations,
I think shooters have trouble getting going because the other team,
unlike the regular season, where you know, all of a sudden,
Buddy Hill pops out of nowhere. For the opposition, you know,
they're drilled over and over again at every practice. Don't
(01:01:19):
leave him. He's a shooter, And so I think it's
harder for those guys in the postseason.
Speaker 2 (01:01:24):
Tim Roy the voice of the Golden State Warriors with
us here on the Matt Thomas Show with Rosster time,
he's eleven thirty three. So Tim, you go with the double,
a bigger lineup, putting Quinton Posts in starting five, then
it's you know, obviously a change of what not having
Jimmy out there?
Speaker 1 (01:01:38):
What did you think of that?
Speaker 2 (01:01:39):
And even though Posts did not help out in terms
of going mono and Mono against Shan Gun was more
outbring going against Draymond Green, the rebounding numbers were much
better than the first two games of the series. And
and do you think that Steve will go with that
lineup again tonight?
Speaker 9 (01:01:55):
I think he could have, especially if Jimmy doesn't go.
I think he would probably go with that. The other
part part about it, I remember telling Tom Tolbart my
my analysts during the game.
Speaker 7 (01:02:05):
At one point.
Speaker 9 (01:02:06):
Quintin post was leading the Warriors and assists. If you
had that on your big no card, well you you
scored big. So yeah, I thought he I thought he
played well, you know, for a rookie. The one thing
we've known about him since he started to play is
he doesn't have any fear. And I think it's partially
because in Europe the younger players play against men, so
(01:02:29):
this is nothing new to them, right, They've played against
men their entire lives, and so I think it gives
him a better preparation for the NBA.
Speaker 2 (01:02:39):
All Right, So Steph with Jimmy with has obviously been
a very successful group. And with before that it was
Andrew Wiggins, and there was always this thought of can
Andrew be the second scorer? Clearly that's not the conversation
piece with Jimmy, But on a night like last Saturday,
and you've known Steph for a long part of me
his entire career, you've known him, does he have a
(01:03:00):
different mindset with the people around him, or does he
pretty much going to every game going I can knock
back ten three pointers? Or do you think there was
a part of him on Saturday that said, you know what,
no disrespect to Buddy Healed, or to Moses Moody, or
to Gary Payton. But if we're gonna win this game,
I've got to knock down a bunch of shots.
Speaker 9 (01:03:22):
Yeah. I think he felt that going in. I think
he understands the situation.
Speaker 7 (01:03:26):
You know, he's a he's.
Speaker 9 (01:03:28):
An unbelievable player, and I think he just made sure
that he was gonna get his shots. He made sure
that he was gonna get free. He made sure that
he was gonna use his screens and get get guilp
and use his dribble to get himself a shot. And
I think, yeah, I think he was a little more
you know, intent on getting shots up than he would
be if Butler was on the floor. So yeah, so
(01:03:50):
I think he reads the game and then he plays
the game the way you know it should be played.
Most nights the are knights where he doesn't look to
score because him being a decoy is helping the Warriors
win the game. Yeah, so I think he kind of
reads that night for night. And I know, I know
he's not, you know, Houston's favorite opponent, but but man,
(01:04:12):
he's an incredible player. He's an incredible person, and you know,
I think at some point we're going to look back
and say, Wow, we got to see this guy play
in person.
Speaker 1 (01:04:22):
Oh for sure. And it's so funny because Fred van
Vliet Tim was like, why y'all the tripping? We're a
different basketball team.
Speaker 2 (01:04:28):
Like, do you not realize the Rockets have had zilt
in terms of success against the postseason in ten years?
Speaker 1 (01:04:34):
I mean you have to kind of read the room
a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:04:36):
And that's the thing that's probably bugging so many people
here in Houston is the fact that, look, we've beaten everybody,
I mean over when you win championships and going deep
playoff runs. But there's just been one team that has
been the kryptonite. And I don't know, has Golden State
had as much success against any other team besides the
Houston Rockets the way they have it over the last
ten years.
Speaker 9 (01:04:56):
Wow, that's a great question. I'd have to look back
and do some research. They've had good success against Memphis,
they played them.
Speaker 7 (01:05:03):
In multiple playoff series.
Speaker 1 (01:05:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:05:05):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (01:05:07):
And and Portland, you know, the the Damian Lillard Portland
Treblazers never could get past the Warriors.
Speaker 12 (01:05:13):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (01:05:13):
But but Houston was the focal part of that was that,
you know, James Harden was there and Chris Paul ended
up being there, and the Warriors already had had issues
with Clipper and so so I think the their their
team of destiny kind of twitch when they when the
Clippers started to take a step back there for a
(01:05:36):
couple of years, Uh, the Rockets stepped up, and I
think so that was the team that they had the
Warriors had to get. You know, the Warriors had to
get past Houston to get to the finals, and as
we know, those series were not you know, the Warriors
didn't walk over those series. They had to dig deep
to win those games. And so so yeah, I think
it just became a natural rivalry with the with the personnel,
(01:05:58):
you know, combined with the talent that Houston had.
Speaker 7 (01:06:00):
And the coaching they had.
Speaker 9 (01:06:02):
I mean, you know, unfortunately for the Rockets fans, that
didn't end up the way they would have liked. But
you know, there were some great games in there too.
There were some outstanding NBA Playoff games in there.
Speaker 2 (01:06:12):
And it's been a good series, honestly, despite the fact
we're on the short end of things wrapping us up
with Tim Roy, the voice of the Warriors. So do
you think that Steve Kerr and his defensive coaches are
marveling at the fact they've kept Jalen Green and check
two out of three games, or the fact that a
men Thompson has a struggle from the floor as much
as he has so far. What do you think has
been the man we're beating our chess moment so far
(01:06:34):
for Golden State, at least on the defensive side of things.
Speaker 9 (01:06:38):
For a defensive side of things, I think they're just
happy that they've made some people uncomfortable, and I think
that's part of it. And I think, you know, for
Green and Jalen Green and for Amon Thompson, I think
this is part of their growth. This is part of
their maturity because you know, nothing the coach says, nothing
(01:07:00):
a teammate says, can really prepare you for the intensity
and the the atmosphere of a playoff series. So I
think in a couple of years, it's just say, for
arguments sake, say the Warriors win this series. But in
a couple of years, the Rockets are gonna win a hard,
tough series and their young guys are gonna look back
and say, well, that series kind of taught us how
(01:07:21):
we need to be. How what preparation you know, we
had to do to win a playoff series. And I
think that's what we're seeing here. And maybe they'll, you know,
maybe they'll mature right in front of our eyes in
this series. It's happened before. But I think, you know,
either way, win or lose, I think the Rockets will
look at this series in a couple of years and
say that the series that really helped us because it
(01:07:43):
taught us, you know, what we need to do to
win a playoff series.
Speaker 2 (01:07:47):
And it might even require some position changes and player
changes in the officers, and we don't know about that.
But first things first, we got a game four tonight. Tim,
Thank you so much as always for your valuable time.
We'll look forward to seeing you and Tom of the
arena tonight. And thanks for joining me on the show today.
Speaker 9 (01:08:02):
Always a pleasure. We're going to do a position ship
for you too. We're gonna put you on the roof tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:08:07):
So I don't he like that once you put me
in the San Jose Arena, I'll do this. I'll do
from the Sharks press box.
Speaker 1 (01:08:12):
How about that?
Speaker 7 (01:08:13):
Oh the tank, you gotta do the shark thing. Then
you gotta do the Jaws thing if you get out
of the tank all right now, No, it'll be great. Well,
I'll look forward to see you tech.
Speaker 1 (01:08:22):
Thank you, Timmy.
Speaker 2 (01:08:23):
We appreciate it is always Tim Roy voice of the Warriors,
one of the best in the association to do it,
and we appreciate him spending some time with us here
on the program eleven forty one on Sports Talk seven nine.
We have the News of Noon coming up at about
to twenty minutes from now. We also have but to
Tell the Truth at to twelve thirty, So we'll look
forward to giving you things. I think Ross, I'm gonna
give you four takes. I'm gonna believe three of them
(01:08:44):
and one of them are gonna be a total bullflace line.
Speaker 1 (01:08:47):
Okay, I'm ready, I feel like it. What do is
believe it or not? Today? Coming up at one.
Speaker 3 (01:08:52):
Fifty Texans draft picks?
Speaker 1 (01:08:54):
Oh, okay, which one for Ross was the most impressive?
Speaker 2 (01:09:02):
Are you asking me? Or is that gonna be unbelieve
it or not? No? I think we should. We We'll
open it up. I'm gonna give you Thomas Sports Enterprises sneaking.
Speaker 1 (01:09:10):
Okay, you didn't.
Speaker 4 (01:09:11):
I don't know if Thomas Sports Enterprises has plucked anybody
from out of the draft at all, have they?
Speaker 1 (01:09:16):
Thomas Sports Enterprises has been focusing on the NBA, so
it was not fair. But I'm gonna give you Thomas
Sports Enterprises bullish pick on the text.
Speaker 2 (01:09:24):
Okay, you picked brock Bowers last year, that was good.
Couple of years ago, Will levis not so good. Yeah,
you know, we're still we were remain confident that whatever
team he eventually lands, he'll be just fine.
Speaker 3 (01:09:35):
Cam Wored disagrees.
Speaker 2 (01:09:36):
I think you're right about that, even on the Matt
Thomas Show with Rass thanks again to Tim Roy visiting
with us from his perch getting ready for the Rockets
and Warriors tonight, game number four eight.
Speaker 1 (01:09:51):
O'clock in the launch pad? Is that correct? Sports? Are
we over on ktr H that it is correct? Matthew?
Speaker 2 (01:09:59):
All right, pregame at eight thirty and then we'll tip
it off a little past nine o'clock, and then when
the astros is done, we'll shift both game the game
over two seven ninety so you can listen to the
post game show and listen to Ross. So take lots
of phone calls from people eleven forty five at night
and hopefully raving. Yes, please, Oh my gosh, I mean,
can I beg?
Speaker 1 (01:10:19):
Or is that just? Is that just low?
Speaker 2 (01:10:21):
Is that just yeahoorish?
Speaker 4 (01:10:22):
And they're not gonna listen, but you can try and beg.
I appreciate that you ain't too proud to beg.
Speaker 1 (01:10:28):
Matt. Yeah, I ain't too proud to beg. I am
begging for the Rockets to win this series.
Speaker 2 (01:10:34):
I don't want to go zero for five against Golden
State in the last ten years.
Speaker 1 (01:10:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:10:40):
Great, And I and the reason why this would not
be a monumental upset because it's really not a two
versus seven it's just not. Golden State's completely different basketball
teams and Jimmy Butler has been out there. There was
a mad scramble. You could have had anybody from as
high as three to was low as seven. I mean
this this bad boy was coming down the last couple
(01:11:01):
of days. This was an atypical season where the stars
did not line properly in terms of seating and whatnot.
You had teams fluctuating on a day to day basis. Yeah,
I mean, you know, Golden Say could have easily been
a three seat They just could have been. And by
the way we're looking at some upsets all around the league.
You've got now Minnesota up three to one over the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (01:11:25):
That's a six over a three.
Speaker 2 (01:11:27):
Who told I told you before the series started, Lakers
on fraud alert. I told you, yeah, But all I
kept hearing was from uh Shannon Sharp was the Lakers
in five? Okay, Well he was wrong, and he's been
wrong about a lot of things lately.
Speaker 1 (01:11:44):
He's had a rough go.
Speaker 4 (01:11:48):
For you, you even making some misjudgments. Let's just put
it that way.
Speaker 2 (01:11:53):
The Lakers, Look, it's Lebron, James is old and Luka
Donci doesn't play defense. The better team is the timber Wolves.
And Lebron played like forty seven minutes last night.
Speaker 4 (01:12:04):
Dave jj Reddick played his starters for all twenty four minutes. Well,
I think it was all of his starters plus Dorian
Phinney Smith. Yeah, with Jackson Hayes out all twenty four
minutes in the second half, and they got gassed at
the end.
Speaker 3 (01:12:21):
It worked for a while.
Speaker 1 (01:12:24):
Yeah, I know people are taking shots at Lebron for
not doing much in the fourth quarter. I don't know
that was The defense from Minnesota was excellent. And second
of all, you again, you're asking a forty.
Speaker 2 (01:12:32):
Plus year old to get into that uncomfortable forty three
minute territory natural progression?
Speaker 1 (01:12:38):
Didn't that work? Or decline?
Speaker 2 (01:12:40):
All right?
Speaker 1 (01:12:40):
Real quick before we get to the phones.
Speaker 2 (01:12:42):
Uh rossi my Thomas Sports Enterprises, Bullish Texans draft pick. Oh, okay,
Woody marks the running back wood It mocks wood it
mocks Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:12:57):
His name is not really Woody?
Speaker 3 (01:12:59):
No, is not that Woodrow?
Speaker 1 (01:13:03):
No? I think it's nothing even close, right, it's something?
Speaker 2 (01:13:06):
So dare I ask it's uh gits or.
Speaker 1 (01:13:10):
You a'll look it up?
Speaker 2 (01:13:12):
And for those you're equavius Joe Joe Quavius, Dare I.
Speaker 3 (01:13:17):
Ask how you get the nickname Woody?
Speaker 2 (01:13:18):
Or do we just know?
Speaker 1 (01:13:19):
I know you really don't know that I know the answer. Okay?
Speaker 3 (01:13:21):
Is it toy story?
Speaker 1 (01:13:22):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (01:13:23):
He apparently he wore a costume from multiple years in
a row being Woody.
Speaker 1 (01:13:27):
Okay, that's good.
Speaker 2 (01:13:30):
Should you should you go back to back with your
with your Halloween characters? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:13:34):
If any broke, don't fix it, Maddie, No, when is
that ever?
Speaker 2 (01:13:38):
Broke on it to a house and said trick or
treat and they said we ain't got nothing tricked.
Speaker 1 (01:13:43):
Bye.
Speaker 2 (01:13:44):
That'd be nobody's gonna notice. Nobody cares. If you're noticing
the same kid wearing the same costume, you just assume
he likes the costume.
Speaker 3 (01:13:50):
Or now this wash he was a kid or as
an adult.
Speaker 1 (01:13:53):
I would assume he's a kid.
Speaker 2 (01:13:55):
Why not college? You dress up for Halloween in college?
I'm just letting you know right now, that's a great idea.
The only women that should be doing that is naughty blank.
That's what you should do on a yearly basis. That
is correct, Matts, And who do you think goes to
the parties with these women? Guys? We were dressed up to.
Speaker 1 (01:14:13):
Who is the greatest college athlete to dress up on Halloween?
Speaker 3 (01:14:17):
There's only I know you're gonna say. You're gonna say
scooby doo?
Speaker 1 (01:14:20):
You got that right, Old John Manziel.
Speaker 3 (01:14:22):
Yeah, you see down.
Speaker 2 (01:14:23):
Do you think John Manziel cares what you say about
not dressing up for costumes? John Manziel's probably had at
least four women in his bed that night.
Speaker 1 (01:14:30):
Yeah, but he didn't scooby do it for like five
eight years in a row. He mixed things up. He
was saying roll scoopies.
Speaker 2 (01:14:39):
Now, is that you thelmah what was the ugly one?
Uh the glasses are Shorty Dumbo was the hot one?
That was the redhead that her and Fred were hooking
up all the time.
Speaker 11 (01:14:54):
Um uh is it Thelma? I thought that was Velma
you're talking about. Daphne's a cute one. Velma is the
q one. Who's the one Velma with the with the glasses?
Underrated by the way.
Speaker 1 (01:15:12):
Who Velma was? No way? Okay, I'm Daphne for the win. Okay,
Daphney one.
Speaker 2 (01:15:21):
And then uh uh the Jets and Daughter number two.
Speaker 1 (01:15:25):
Okay, this is getting weird. I remained bullish on Woody Mark.
Speaker 2 (01:15:30):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (01:15:33):
It's just do.
Speaker 2 (01:15:36):
Joe, Joe, Equavius, Joe apostrophe, equavious Marks.
Speaker 1 (01:15:42):
And we got the all name team here.
Speaker 3 (01:15:43):
We got Jaen's like four Jalens.
Speaker 1 (01:15:46):
Jayden, Jalen, Jalen Jalen. And then the Ariante that one
that's a tough one to free.
Speaker 2 (01:15:55):
I like that one.
Speaker 1 (01:15:57):
He's like this kid looks like an Ariante are to Ursery,
but apparently the kids call him Tay, So we'll just
keep a nice in short. Then we have a.
Speaker 2 (01:16:06):
Kante too, I'll take your word for it. Yeah, Keyante
Hamilton is the seventh round selection. He's a defensive tackle
out of defensive tackle. That's right, Rutgers the football fact.
But this is a team is littered with me. Look
at all these Big ten schools Minnesota, USC, Penn State,
Rutgers in Iowa.
Speaker 1 (01:16:25):
Yeah, but I mean, do how many of those belong
in the Big ten? Gordy is he miss be pissed?
There's only one SEC player on the team. I know? Well?
Speaker 3 (01:16:32):
No, did you hear he got in?
Speaker 1 (01:16:33):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:16:34):
I love Woody Marks at Mississippi State.
Speaker 1 (01:16:36):
Oh that doesn't count.
Speaker 2 (01:16:37):
It's where you went transferred. Tell me, I don't know
you could?
Speaker 1 (01:16:40):
You could?
Speaker 3 (01:16:41):
Are you taking credit for Matthew Golden?
Speaker 12 (01:16:43):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:16:43):
Or trom On Mark both? Y'all get your asses out
of it. We don't need you anymore by Matthew Golden. Well,
it's very easy.
Speaker 4 (01:16:48):
If Matthew Golden's a bust, he's a cougar, And if
he's a hit, then he is a longhornon. That's that's
how I'm approaching that year. At the war topic.
Speaker 2 (01:16:55):
Steven in Los Angeles, eleven fifty five on seven ninety
thank you for holding a good morning.
Speaker 13 (01:17:00):
Good morning to you both. Just wanted to talk about
the rockets. Uh specifically Uh Amen Thompson And he's had
a rough series to say the least, and UH kind
of just spitballing. What do you guys think about is
there any chance that maybe Jabari starts the game. I mean,
(01:17:21):
he gives you obviously better shooting in the corners, and
he's a I mean obviously amend is a great defender,
but he's having just everything is out of source for
him this series. To me, you know, he can't shoot,
you know, those bunnies in the paint, like like the
Game three, they were daring him to make shots and
he just couldn't. You know, his rotations seemed to be
(01:17:43):
a bit off, you know, even defensively, and he just
can't get into any sort of rhythm. And you know, conversely,
I think Javari's had a pretty decent series so far
coming off the bench. But you know, maybe you start
him to give you, you know, that option of having
some better shooting on the floor and then because he
(01:18:06):
could I certainly hit those mid rate shots. But I
just wanted to hear what you guys thought about that proposal,
or at the very least, if you see him a
men struggling again, do you give Jabari more minutes? Because
I think he's only been averaging what twenty three, twenty four?
Speaker 2 (01:18:22):
Yeah, minutes been low. Thank you Stephen for the phone call.
Appreciate it. Good stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:18:28):
I don't think that.
Speaker 2 (01:18:31):
E May is a reactionary one game to the other,
got to flip things around kind of thing. I think
it'd have to be a prolonged slump. And I would say,
you know, we're in that range with a men, because hey,
he's not had any really great breakout games. If I
was a betting man, which I'm not on this, I
would say that a man still starts. Could I see
(01:18:51):
Jabari's minutes go up a little bit more? Could I
see the trigger to pull him off the off the
floor a little sooner? Yeah, But a men can still
if he gets to the dunker spot Ross that's his
favorite spot on the floor. If he gets there, he's
also gonna have a defensive intensity. He's gonna probably play
as good a defense on Steph. No disrespect to Dylan Brooks,
but a man's gonna want to get in there as
(01:19:13):
much as he can.
Speaker 1 (01:19:14):
And Tari Eason, So I.
Speaker 2 (01:19:16):
Would say to give you a long win an answer
Steve and an old Ross. You agree or not, I
don't think he may shuffles lineup at least tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:19:25):
I don't think he does.
Speaker 4 (01:19:27):
But I'm very open to it because, I mean, this
is kind of what we talked about this throughout the
season when Jabari did break his hand and we talked
about a men getting in the you know, men started
the season on the bench, right and one of the
things we talked about him starting every day was gonna
be the lack of shooting and spacing.
Speaker 3 (01:19:43):
So if you don't, I would. I don't think it
would be a panic move.
Speaker 2 (01:19:46):
I mean, if you go back to the starting lineup
you've used earlier in the season, it's not to me
a panic move.
Speaker 3 (01:19:51):
I think it makes a lot of sense.
Speaker 4 (01:19:53):
But it's just how does he weigh the spacing that
you gain offensively to what you lose from the versatility
of a Men Thompson defensively. So to me, I would
be okay to see Jabaris Smith junior. They're both going
to play twenty five thirty five minutes, whatever it is
going to be, so they're both going to be on
(01:20:13):
the floor for a lot of the game. It's a
matter of who starts, and do you feel like that
extra spacing gives you a chance to start off a
little bit better offensively if you don't lose some defensively.
But what a men Thompson has been doing. I know
Steph Curry has been going off for like thirty plus
points multiple times in this series. But amen, Thompson brings
extreme defensive versatility. He's really good and we like what
(01:20:36):
he does on the floor. He just hurting them offensively.
So I'm open to the idea. We talked about it
in the postgame show on Saturday. I don't think it's
gonna happen, I'm with you, But if it did, I
don't think a would be super shocking, and b I
don't think it'd be a bad move either.
Speaker 1 (01:20:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:20:51):
Men, So far, forty one percent for the floor in
the series, he's thirteen of thirty two. Meanwhile, Jabari is
nine of fifty, so the sample size is considerably smaller
from Jabbari at least through this point.
Speaker 1 (01:21:04):
All Right, the News at Noon is coming up next.
Speaker 2 (01:21:06):
If you like to be a part of the radio program,
you made to join us at seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven.
Speaker 1 (01:21:16):
Ninety twelve O five in h Town.
Speaker 2 (01:21:19):
What's happened to lunch timers? This is our number three
of the Mat Thomas Show with Rosk. We take this
program today until two pm. We're coming up in a
half an hour from now, we'll have to tell the
truth where I've got four sports takes. I believe three
of them. It'll be up to Jonathan and Ross to
the side. Which one of the four I do not believe.
We've got believing it or not? Today at one fifty
about the Texans draft picks. But right now we present
(01:21:41):
to you the news at noon.
Speaker 1 (01:21:46):
And we will do.
Speaker 2 (01:21:47):
That with the Dave Ward of Houston sports journalism.
Speaker 1 (01:21:52):
One only Rossville are out. Well, thank you, Matt.
Speaker 2 (01:21:55):
Great to be compared to the one of the all
time grades in Houston, Texas.
Speaker 3 (01:22:00):
You have a number of things to get to.
Speaker 2 (01:22:01):
On the news at noon, but let's start out with
Jordon Alvarez heating up of the plates. Oh one, count
runners on first and second, one out, and he drives
this on.
Speaker 1 (01:22:12):
The right center field, maybe a little further.
Speaker 2 (01:22:14):
Alvarez staring at it for.
Speaker 14 (01:22:16):
Good reason, a three run shot in the Astro score.
Speaker 1 (01:22:23):
Three to nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:22:24):
Astros on Alvarez's third home run of the season.
Speaker 14 (01:22:28):
Oh my goodness, he hit that just to the right
of the batter's I almost got it into the fountains
four hundred and thirty six feet and the Astros nightmare
is over for the time being.
Speaker 4 (01:22:43):
Four one hundred and thirty six feet hundred ten point
six off the bat. Jord On Alvarez also had a
very hard hit double. Astros bats wake up.
Speaker 2 (01:22:52):
They finally decide to score some runs in Kansas City.
With Hunter Brown on the mound, it gets them a win.
Hunter Brown, six innings pitch did give up seven hits
and one run to in his scoreless streak. He also
had nine strikeouts on exactly one hundred pitches. He is
one of the best pitchers in baseball. And the Astros
bats did their job and they didn't get swept in
Kansas City. Man, but he gave up a run ross
(01:23:14):
Come on, oh no, Bobby Witt Junior is just.
Speaker 4 (01:23:18):
Can't get the guy out. Ridiculous. He's on a what
kind of street? He was on an eighteen nineteen game
hitting streak, whatever he's on.
Speaker 2 (01:23:25):
And they bought those arbitration years out And that's like
the best man they've they've ever spent in Kansas. Yeah,
that's pretty smart. Yeah, I mean Hunter Brown got the
best of him a couple of times, striking him out.
But then he had the the RBI double to break
Hunter Brown's scoreless streak. And then while Brian King came
up gave up a run, Taylor Skint gave up a
run at the end. But that's okay, no harm, no foul.
Astros get to win in Kansas City.
Speaker 1 (01:23:48):
Elsewhere.
Speaker 2 (01:23:48):
On the news at noon, Matt, a very important, pivotal,
crucial Oh yeah, game tonight in that Golden State nine
pm late start here on sports to excuse me. On
news radio seven forty k TRH our sister station, Golden
State Warriors favored by three and a half.
Speaker 1 (01:24:10):
Go Rockets.
Speaker 4 (01:24:11):
That was the line on Saturday before the Jimmy Butler
news came out. Then it moved to Warriors minus one
and a half. So it seems like at the moment
Vegas thinks that Jimmy Butler is going to play. My
gun feeling last week was that he misses one games
and plays what do you.
Speaker 1 (01:24:25):
Think, Matt, Yeah, every time the TV was showing.
Speaker 2 (01:24:28):
Him, I mean, he wasn't in a wheelchair put it
that way.
Speaker 1 (01:24:32):
Uh huh.
Speaker 2 (01:24:33):
I think they were thinking, if we can get a
split out of this and we can save you, because
I mean, with the pelvis injury, he's even if he
plays a night, it's notgning one hundred percent. You're still
running up and down miles and miles and miles and
miles and miles. I mean, uh, and there's contact and
the Rockets. I mean, let's be brutally honest, Ross. They're
gonna poke at him a little bit, wouldn't you, honestly?
Speaker 3 (01:24:55):
Mm hm.
Speaker 1 (01:24:57):
So I think he's gonna go, but I'll be I
wouldn't put him as the thirty minute category today.
Speaker 2 (01:25:04):
Yeah, it feels like a fifty to fifty call now
after missing the time. If it is a bruise and
there's no structural damage as the reports have been on
whether or not he'll play, we shall see. Either way
he plays or he doesn't. Rockets need to win this
game tonight in San Francisco. Elsewhere, Matt.
Speaker 4 (01:25:22):
One of the big stories of the NFL Draft this
weekend was Shudeur Sanders's slide all the way to the
fifth round, finally selected by the Cleveland Browns, but a
story we have not talked about was the prank call
Right made to Shadour Sanders during the NFL Draft. Atlanta
Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Olbrick admitted that it was his
(01:25:45):
son who made the prank call. The Atlanta Falcons story
is that his son saw the phone number on his iPad,
his dad's iPad, and Jack's Olbrick made the prank call.
Speaker 1 (01:25:58):
By the way, ninety nine percent of men named Jack's
or douchebags.
Speaker 2 (01:26:03):
It feels fair. I don't mean to stereotype, but we
gotta be honest. Name a dude named jax ja X.
It's like that guy's Assault of the Earth.
Speaker 1 (01:26:14):
Can't do it?
Speaker 2 (01:26:16):
Uh, Jack Griffin? Wait, that's Gryffin Jack's. Actually, you can't
do it.
Speaker 1 (01:26:21):
You just can't.
Speaker 2 (01:26:22):
Jack's Olbrick apologizing in an Instagram post, saying what he
did was quote completely inexcusable, embarrassing, and shameful. I'm so
sorry I took away from your moment. It was selfish
and childish. Jack Olbrich said, I could never imagine getting
ready to celebrate one of the greatest moments in your life.
Speaker 3 (01:26:39):
And I made a terrible mistake, and I mess with
that moment.
Speaker 1 (01:26:42):
You knew exactly what you were doing.
Speaker 3 (01:26:44):
Yep, he's just sorry he got caught.
Speaker 1 (01:26:47):
So let me ask you this. If you're the NFL,
what do you do on this? What can you do?
It's just a prank call?
Speaker 2 (01:26:56):
I mean what should you You can tighten things up
as far as these no, and you can maybe set
on a memo to everybody like, hey, if this, if
this happens again, something something.
Speaker 1 (01:27:05):
I mean, you're not gonna draft pick.
Speaker 2 (01:27:07):
I mean, what are you gonna yeah, you're gonna find
the falcons or are you gonna do what?
Speaker 4 (01:27:12):
What recourse do you even have? It was just an
unfortunate accident and he got a prank call and nobody
died from it.
Speaker 1 (01:27:17):
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:27:18):
It's just it's a bad look. And should or Sanders
did accept the apology?
Speaker 1 (01:27:28):
Well, I mean, yeah, he should have did the right thing.
Speaker 3 (01:27:31):
Was a twenty one year old did something stupid?
Speaker 2 (01:27:35):
These kids, these front office people, m m m shame, shame, shame,
But yeah, Jacks, Yeah, apparently Colts tied end Tyler Warren
received a prank call before he was selected in the
first round by the Colts and uh Bill's sixth round pick,
Chase Lunt said he got four or five prank calls.
(01:27:56):
There was also a prank call last year to Cooper Dejen,
so this is not completely uncommon. All right, I don't
know how you stop it. I mean I think I
know a way, but I want to hold onto it for.
Speaker 1 (01:28:08):
A little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:28:09):
Ooh okay, may be part of the tell the truth.
Speaker 2 (01:28:12):
Oh, I see you working this guy. The gears are
always turning, Matt Yep, sometimes at different speeds, but at
least they're turning well.
Speaker 1 (01:28:20):
I mean sometimes I'm playing a forty five album on.
Speaker 2 (01:28:25):
A thirty three and a third. I did little grease
on the wheels. Yes, and that's your news of noon.
Speaker 1 (01:28:32):
All right. Uh, yeah, that was interesting.
Speaker 2 (01:28:35):
The mel Kiper meltdown, I thought was very interesting from
the fact that he just never let it die. And
then everybody in their mother went to Twitter. They were like, ROSSI,
I've got to do an emergency podcast. I've got things
I've got to say. You know what, nobody is saying
anything out of the ordinary. Everybody's got basically the same
(01:28:56):
thing you're in the camp of. This is a coal
llusion by the NFL or it's that Shador sanders Uh interviewed.
Speaker 1 (01:29:05):
Horribly all the reports that were out there.
Speaker 2 (01:29:07):
About him being self righteous and not willing to work
out at the senior boone in the combine all that together.
Speaker 1 (01:29:15):
Said this is a stayaway. I mean, if I'm a
general manager of a team Ross and I don't necessarily
need a quarterback, and I'm not completely sure this is
the guy who's gonna be the answer, and I got
a dad who's probably gonna be chomping after my team's coach.
I don't need the hassle NFL Ross ain't got time
for mid level quarterbacks thinking they own the building. And
(01:29:37):
that's clearly the vibe that Shader Sanders gave to multiple
NFL teams.
Speaker 2 (01:29:42):
Yeah, if he if he was good enough, if he
was better on tape, he would have been picked higher.
That's just the bottom line. Thirty two teams are not
gonna not draft a quarterback that they think is really good.
Speaker 1 (01:29:53):
Yep, all right, that is the news and noon.
Speaker 2 (01:29:55):
It is twelve to fourteen here on Sports Talk seven
ninety seven one three two one two seven nine.
Speaker 1 (01:30:00):
If you want to jump into the conversation.
Speaker 2 (01:30:02):
Time is twelve twenty. Good morning or good afternoon. That is,
it's the morning here.
Speaker 1 (01:30:06):
In San Francisco.
Speaker 2 (01:30:08):
We're doing a show at eight o'clock Pacific time in
the morning, six forty five.
Speaker 1 (01:30:11):
Wake up call. Hit you a little different, doesn't it?
Sports RV? Sure? Why not? Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:30:19):
Astros will win against Kansas City two out of three
loss series.
Speaker 1 (01:30:22):
It's okay.
Speaker 2 (01:30:23):
They're only a game and a half behind Seattle. Thank
you San Francisco for beating the Rangers. Thanks to Texas
is woeful inside the park. Multiple air defense. That was
a Little League home run esque. Two teams in the
aos with positive run differentials.
Speaker 3 (01:30:36):
Now that's it. Shows and Mariners.
Speaker 2 (01:30:40):
Yeah, the Mariners were like beating the Marling's like twenty
to nothing a couple of days ago or something great.
Fourteen to zero, Yeah, fourteen. I knew it was some
some sort of football number to it. Uh, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:30:53):
I don't think I want any part of that, Rossie.
Speaker 2 (01:30:56):
What do you mean, like like I've grown hate Warrior
fan because they're just watching a completely different game than
we are. Do you feel like that every time that
we face somebody, we just hate that sport, hate that
sports fan group.
Speaker 1 (01:31:09):
Not everybody. I don't need Angels fans, but I mean, okay,
there's no such thing as Angel fans. I know.
Speaker 2 (01:31:17):
But let's run through teams that the that the Houston
postseason have faced over the years. Okay, no, are we
just blind Homers.
Speaker 1 (01:31:24):
What's I'm trying to figure out here? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:31:25):
Probably?
Speaker 1 (01:31:27):
Well, I mean there may be a show after ours
that may have one. You don't got call WEX out
like that. That's great, it's true. I'm sorry about that
WEX all right. When the Texans played the Chargers, that
doesn't count. They're no Charger fans.
Speaker 2 (01:31:38):
There are some, you know. Oh yeah that's right, Jonathan.
Speaker 3 (01:31:43):
Oh stop, you know such things and rivers get them?
Come on now we have.
Speaker 1 (01:31:52):
Hey, everybody, we have a Charger fan producing our show. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:31:58):
How about that ass whoop in the Chargers to a
glass last year in the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (01:32:01):
Okay, so let's go back the truth. The truth is
your team sucked. Truth and we have a cot. We
didn't have a coast guys. Come on, you had, Jim Harbaugh.
What are you talking about? What we do? This is
well season? Okay, right back at it. We don't okay,
I'll give you one. We don't hate Chiefs fan.
Speaker 3 (01:32:22):
Uh, Chiefs fan. I don't like it, don't think.
Speaker 1 (01:32:24):
So we're okay with them.
Speaker 2 (01:32:27):
Mhmm. We didn't hate Tiger fan last year. Detroit Tigers
fans they don't really have any either. They don't have
any so that doesn't release poor people from Detroit suffering.
Speaker 1 (01:32:35):
So yeah, go back. Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:32:37):
So over the years, we hated Red Sox fan, duh.
We hated Yankees fan, duh. We were indifferent to the
Rays because the Rays have no fans.
Speaker 1 (01:32:46):
Mm hmmm.
Speaker 2 (01:32:47):
We didn't hate National fan, Guardians fan, didn't hate Guardian fan.
Twins fan we felt sorry for because they're playing outdoor
stadium and forty degree temperatures.
Speaker 3 (01:32:57):
Yeah, it was chili up there. Yeah, yeah, I think
it's the word.
Speaker 2 (01:33:01):
Look, Mariners fan always they act like they've they've won
ten World Series.
Speaker 3 (01:33:05):
It's weird.
Speaker 1 (01:33:06):
It is weird. They've done nothing but like get to
the playoffs once in twenty years, and they're sitting there
like they've hoisted four World Series trophies and they're obsessed
with the Astros and jose L Tuve. Yeah he still
gets it worn out there in seattlemore. Yeah, it's crazy
that the Yankees, I mean everybody wears something. Yeah, yeah,
Yankees fans, I mean they don't have anything better to do.
(01:33:27):
But I just like, I walk around the Chase Center
before the game Ross and I just want to.
Speaker 3 (01:33:32):
Just I want to stranglehold people. You're gonna hurt somebody.
Speaker 2 (01:33:37):
No, I'm not physically strong enough to do that. I'm
just like what I want to do it. Maybe that's
something wrong with me. Do you feel like they're more
obnoxious than in other arenas when you're walking around, Yeah,
because they don't think Draymond Green does anything wrong. Draymond's
the dirtiest player in the game, and they don't see
(01:33:58):
it that way.
Speaker 1 (01:33:59):
That is pretty crazy.
Speaker 2 (01:34:00):
But I'll say this, I think Rocket fans, I mean, look,
Dylan can get you know, he can mix it up.
But I don't think we turn a oh that's Dylan
in the right there. I mean, we know Dylan's can
have been able to do some things that were less
than sports been, like Dylan plays dirty. But also, I
mean some people try to argue that Dylan Brooks and
(01:34:22):
Draymond Green are the same, like, oh, if you root
for Dylan Brooks, you would root for Draymond Green. I
saw that from a TV hack. It was terrible, what
a terrible take. I just disagree with that notion. Yeah,
Draymond Green is way dirty. I don't recall Dylan Brooks
gouging people's eyes out for years. And yeah he.
Speaker 1 (01:34:41):
Or sucker punching a teammate during a practice.
Speaker 2 (01:34:43):
He's an instigator, for sure, but nobody's to the level
of Draymond Green. Really And again, I know Dreamon, I
know Dylan's on a choir boy. I mean, I know
he's totally totally get it, but I think we're honest
with that.
Speaker 1 (01:34:54):
I mean, we call him the villain for a reason.
Speaker 3 (01:34:56):
Yeah, Dylan the villain. It's a role he's embraced.
Speaker 1 (01:35:00):
And kind of needed around these parts a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:35:02):
I mean that the team takes on its personality of
its coach, and I think that there's part of the
reason why Dylan was brought here was because he may
want that kind of hard nosed guy in front of him.
Speaker 1 (01:35:11):
And the crazy part is this is I don't know
if it's an indictment against Rockets or the Dylan's playing better,
but Dylan's probably the most consistent outside shooter the Rockets
have had from start to finish this year.
Speaker 2 (01:35:21):
Yeah, that's why I was thinking we were talking about
getting Jabari Smith junior in the starting lineup somehow it's like,
maybe for Dylan Brooks, but Dylan Brooks has been your
best three point shooter. Dylan Brooks isn't the I think honestly,
his defense is a little overrated because he plays really hard.
But I think guys still get by him. But he's
still pretty good defensively, and he's your he's your best
three point shooter this year, so you can't take him
(01:35:43):
out of.
Speaker 1 (01:35:43):
The starting lineup.
Speaker 2 (01:35:44):
To me, my one of my son's best friends just
texts me. He says, I like to thank you. Think
you don't hate Chief Fan because of me, and that
means a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:35:50):
Damn it. Oh Chase, what a good kid.
Speaker 3 (01:35:53):
Eh yeah, I guess.
Speaker 1 (01:35:57):
Because I don't even think Chief fans obsessed would take
going to the games. I think America is obsessed with
Taylor going to football games. I don't. I don't think
Chief fan can get two blanks.
Speaker 2 (01:36:08):
I guess that's saying being a dump. It's still a
great place to watch a game. I'm not and I
only saw you of Ah play Kansas there where the
the building was only you know, thirty percent.
Speaker 1 (01:36:17):
Full, But it's still a great vibe to it.
Speaker 3 (01:36:18):
I'm sure, it's wonderful.
Speaker 1 (01:36:21):
All right, that game we have to let's do this,
Let's go to a call and then we'll get to
tell the truth. After that, Let's talk.
Speaker 2 (01:36:27):
To Lewis and Sugarland at twelve twenty seven. Lewis, good
afternoon to you. What's going on, Matt and RV. How
you guys doing wonderful?
Speaker 15 (01:36:37):
Matt, I you know, I gotta tell you, I totally
agree with you. I had season tickets for many years,
I mean half a season up until the COVID years,
and I got to tell you, Adam, all the fans
that would come out and we went to all the games.
Warrior fans have got to be the most entirely obnoxious
(01:37:01):
fans ever. Okay, they their T shirt wearing entitled our
team doesn't suck, YadA yady blah blah blah. And I
think part of my hate for them is, yeah, I'm
jealous they've won all those titles instead of us. But
there's just something about them that you just you just
(01:37:21):
want to take a brick and hit him in the face.
So if you see somebody walking around the night, if
you'll do that for me, I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (01:37:29):
Have a great day, and go rockets. Thank you. Ross.
Speaker 2 (01:37:32):
If I throw a brick at someone at Chasinger, will
I'd be able to still broadcast the game.
Speaker 3 (01:37:35):
Now, that'll probably be attempted murder.
Speaker 4 (01:37:37):
Now maybe you can get that plied down to assault,
but you're probably still gonna do some time.
Speaker 2 (01:37:41):
Yeah again, when am I gonna find a raindo brick
around the Chaser? Well, anytime I'm in Thompson Choose.
Speaker 1 (01:37:49):
They do have good garlic fries at Chasinger. I won't
give him that garlic fries. Ross, I'm gonna give you
a really hot take. Okay, maybe the sneaky item of
the night when you go to a ball game.
Speaker 2 (01:38:02):
What if it's garlic a truffle fries? You get the
truffle in there too, Matt.
Speaker 1 (01:38:06):
Lordy Rossly, what were we paying about fourteen fifteen dollars
for those bad.
Speaker 2 (01:38:08):
Way at the Chase Center? Probably at least costs you
about seventeen And then after tax? Don't they have a
bunch of weird taxes? You said in San Francisco? Yeah,
I uh was at dinner last night and I had
a five percent tax on for something I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:38:22):
It was the Pooper Scooper tax I think Cooper Scooper
or believe it was in health insurance for the employees.
Speaker 3 (01:38:27):
Oh that's good, that's actually good.
Speaker 1 (01:38:31):
I gotta be honest. I think it hurts their tips.
Speaker 3 (01:38:33):
I do, probably, but at least it's hurt me.
Speaker 1 (01:38:36):
Because I tip property. But I still think it hurts
their tips. At least they can go to the doctor.
That's cool, and doctor's are overrated to.
Speaker 2 (01:38:43):
Tell the truth is up next, twelve twenty nine, Sports
Talk seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven ninety It's how you reach the show seven one
three two two one two five seven hounty.
Speaker 1 (01:38:54):
Thank you very much, Nick, appreciate your kind words.
Speaker 2 (01:38:59):
ROSSI coming out, But about fifteen minutes we're gonna play
some comments from a NFL general manager.
Speaker 1 (01:39:05):
You went on a radio show today. He was not
happy with the way the media was talking about his draft.
Speaker 2 (01:39:12):
Love it, so, uh, needless to say, we're never getting
Nick on the show, but if we were, we'd be
polite about it. Why Matt, you always crush him when
he's off air? Why would you act any different in
front of him? Crush of air, Let's go, he said,
like you early today on air, not off air, when
he's not on air our air. What I say, you
(01:39:34):
talk about his sweater vests got ters with people think
he just makes he thinks he's smarter than everyone. Why
would't you tell that to him to his face? Matt,
I would say it till his face, I think you
think you're the smartest guy in the room. And he
would say, well, you know, there's gonna be some guys
are gonna be smarter than others.
Speaker 1 (01:39:48):
I mean some of those.
Speaker 2 (01:39:49):
I think I'm pretty smart, but I may not be
the smartest guy, but I may be the fourth or
fifth guy because of a room.
Speaker 4 (01:39:53):
In all right, so we're apparently so the bill GM's
getting Yeah, we have the audio.
Speaker 3 (01:40:03):
So okay, good. I've been waiting for you to scrap
with Joe A.
Speaker 1 (01:40:05):
Spotta. He'll be on tomorrow with you.
Speaker 3 (01:40:08):
That's true. We won't scrap. I don't have anything to
scrap with thoughout.
Speaker 2 (01:40:11):
No, his squad's a game and a half on our
first place America League West under Brown, Cy Young Cy Brown.
All right, so I want you to walk me through
this because again I think you and I are on
the same page on this. But we have to think
about the logistics. Okay, I don't. And again, I don't
know how many people of our audience watch in New
(01:40:32):
York Detroit. I'm gonna say very minimal at best. But
if you've seen the hoighlights on the sports center, Tim
Hardaway was followed by Josh.
Speaker 1 (01:40:39):
Hart and it wasn't even really even close. It wasn't
even a judgment call.
Speaker 2 (01:40:43):
It was kind of It was legitimate contact of the
body as the ball was being released on a baseline
three that would have given Detroit three free throws and
a very good chance of winning the game. I mean
it literally, that call, if it's made correctly with the
clock showing zero, would have been the right call. Or
maybe less than a second, I don't know what it
(01:41:03):
would have been, but it absolutely ross would have made
a difference in the game. Now you can go back
and say, well, games aren't decided by one play, and
you can say the game was very physically called and
blah blah blah blah blah. You have to still interpret
every play by the rule book, and the rules say
the contact that Josh Hart of the New York Knicks
(01:41:26):
put on Tim Hardaway is worthy of a foul being called.
David Guthrie, the crew chief, of the game said as much.
Speaker 1 (01:41:34):
They went right in the room where they get dressed,
they put the DVR on, they went and watch it,
and they said, Yep, it was a foul. I mean ross.
It didn't take much for them to say admit that.
They didn't go, well, we did this, we did this,
they said, we goofed.
Speaker 4 (01:41:49):
He said, after postgame review, we observed that heart makes
body contact that is more than marginal to Hardaway Junior,
and a foul should have been called. Also me, I
was watching that game live and I didn't think it
was a out at first live either, but upon review, yeah,
there there was some body contact. And unfortunately we know
this even if it's a playoff game or not, in
(01:42:10):
the last few seconds, you really got to mug somebody
for the referees to call it.
Speaker 2 (01:42:15):
That's just kind of how it goes.
Speaker 1 (01:42:17):
I don't know. I can't hypocritical.
Speaker 2 (01:42:20):
I can't say that if it happened to the Rockets
on Saturday that I would not be in a full
bitch mode for four hours today on the show.
Speaker 1 (01:42:25):
I'm just gonna tell you the truth.
Speaker 2 (01:42:27):
So if I got if I got a call, like
I want to see it for the Rockets, I got
a call like I see in other games. And I'm
not a big Hardaway junior fan. He comes across as
surly a hole and he was fouling the play. He
crushes the rockets too, he does. He's certified much, but
he's been a rockets killer in his career.
Speaker 3 (01:42:44):
Then what do you do?
Speaker 2 (01:42:45):
Do you just do it to last one minute reviews, Matt,
I'm saying, taught.
Speaker 1 (01:42:49):
Me through this.
Speaker 2 (01:42:49):
What can we do to ensure that everything in the
most important minute or two minutes.
Speaker 1 (01:42:58):
Whatever you want to go? Man?
Speaker 2 (01:42:59):
With the honestly, with the top of the keila the overhead, look,
it looks like Hardaway jumps into him a little hmmm,
but ros's this isn't enough for to interpret Yeah, the
officials interpreted it instead in your quote more than marginal
contact to the to the shooter. Yeah, but upon review, hmm, interesting,
(01:43:25):
it kind of looks like Tim Hardaway jumps into him.
Now now maybe okay with the old call, even though
Guthrie said it was a call and.
Speaker 1 (01:43:31):
Said it was on a call, Yeah, well men, another
thing for you. You blow a call like that, is
David Guthrie calling it, is anybody his crew calling any more?
Playoff games. The guy's a crew chief. Yeah, he's the best.
He's that was his call that he missed. He was
on the baseline.
Speaker 2 (01:43:45):
Yeah, I just emailed you the overhead angle. If you
want to look at and look at Tim Hardaway, kind
of jump into him. It's man, that's bang bang. That's
tough and thereskay. So let's let's defend their officials for
a second. It's bang bang. There wasn't a mugging. There
was contact, but you can allow some contact as long
as it's not beyond with a term as marginal.
Speaker 1 (01:44:05):
Yeah, it's in the heat of the moment.
Speaker 2 (01:44:07):
It was a mad dash to get a ball up
at the very last second. You're watching for a variety
of things. Yeah, it's a scramble moment, and but there
is there is an official literally right in front of it.
All I'm saying is this, I don't want any playoff
game involving anybody to end the way that it did yesterday,
(01:44:30):
with it the way that it ended, with the very
quick admission by the folks that were there at the
game saying we goofed and everybody left and went, oh thanks.
It's it's almost like you'd rather them say nothing than
admit the failure, but then we would hold the NBA
accountable to say you owe us an explanation on this.
(01:44:51):
Was this a correct call or was this a wrong call?
That's that's why I want replay in the final two minutes.
Speaker 1 (01:44:59):
I just do. And I know that it's going to
screw everybody up with timing and it's going to backtrack
games even further for those eight thirty starts and now
becoming eight forty six or whatever. But damn ross, we
got to get this right. We got to get these
calls right.
Speaker 2 (01:45:14):
It's just it's such a difficult sport to officiate. And
also I think they should go to a like a
replay center where they make the determination, not the referees
that are on the call, because Matt, if I call
that a foul or no foul, I'm more apt to
be biased towards my own call. Yes, when you look
for something to play, he gets up with the crew
chief to accept the calls. Now you get assistance from
(01:45:35):
the video center, but it's a.
Speaker 1 (01:45:36):
Crew chiefs call.
Speaker 7 (01:45:38):
No.
Speaker 2 (01:45:38):
Yeah, I'd like it to be called by somebody at
a third party. Not a third party, you know what
I'm saying. A referee that's not.
Speaker 1 (01:45:44):
Likely doing college football little bit, but yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:45:46):
A replay center, yeah are they doing? In European soccer,
they call the video assistant referee. It's a whole other
referee and he does the calls, so.
Speaker 1 (01:45:55):
It takes a responsibility out of the hands of the
three guys that are at the thing.
Speaker 4 (01:45:58):
Yeah, because if I call that a foul or not,
I could I could see somebody. It's called choice supported bias.
Speaker 2 (01:46:03):
Where were you You're supporting whatever you first said? Yeah,
I just think it was lousy. And if I'm Detroit
fan today, I'm super mad.
Speaker 1 (01:46:13):
I mean, I wouldn't be able to do the show.
I would probably I probably would.
Speaker 2 (01:46:16):
Have, you know, Yeah, I mean you know, I mean
we're all emotional about these things, especially with teams that
we love, and the Knicks got away with it. They
flat out got away with it. Let's use technology and
let's start building three hour games that we have to
because we got to get this right.
Speaker 1 (01:46:36):
ROSSI, That's what I'm saying. We just got to get
it right.
Speaker 2 (01:46:38):
You're right, Let's use technology, Let's get every ball and
strike called correctly.
Speaker 1 (01:46:42):
Let's go. We're getting there.
Speaker 2 (01:46:44):
Apparently one efficient one something the Mets game yesterday is
twenty five calls behind the plane.
Speaker 1 (01:46:49):
It feels like quite a bit. It's more than one.
Speaker 2 (01:46:52):
It's the upscorecard on that one.
Speaker 1 (01:46:55):
I'm not good.
Speaker 2 (01:46:56):
All right, final hour of the show coming up. If
you want to jump into the conversation, please you so.
We'd love to have you at seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven to one three two
one two five seven ninety It is The Matt Thomas
Show with Ross into the final hour, The Matt Thomas
Show and Rosso here from San Francisco.
Speaker 1 (01:47:13):
Ross is back in our Houston studios and we are
with you until uh noon Pacific two o'clock Central time.
The A team will take over and then we'll have
Astros baseball here tonight against the Tigers, Game one of
a three game series with the team that eliminated the
Astros last year in the postseason. No Tark schoobl in
the serious sports Harv catch a break.
Speaker 2 (01:47:34):
Yeah, but the Tiger's Jack Flirt he is on the
mountains is a fine young lad from Limerick. He's been
pretty good drinks.
Speaker 1 (01:47:46):
It throws in ninety four to miles probably the fastball
with a pint in his hand.
Speaker 2 (01:47:50):
Uh, I mean at least by e R three good
starters coming up for the excuse me, Detroit Tigers.
Speaker 1 (01:47:58):
Do you know that they have the best rock in
the Maria League. I did not know that. Eighteen and ten.
Speaker 4 (01:48:04):
Dang, they're pretty good. Well, Astros seems to be good
do well against teams with good records.
Speaker 1 (01:48:09):
So yeah, they are two and one against the Mets,
who are nineteen and nine.
Speaker 2 (01:48:14):
They are zero and three against the Giants. They're nineteen
and ten of the Giants. That's the second best record
in the American League, in the National League. Yeah, they
did good against the Padres, but the Padres have lost
four in a row.
Speaker 1 (01:48:24):
Pods have dropped off a little bit and.
Speaker 2 (01:48:28):
Swept the Blue Jays, but would not be under five
hundred if the swept them.
Speaker 1 (01:48:32):
You're saying, all right, we got that going on Texans
draft picks.
Speaker 2 (01:48:37):
If you know a little bit about them, you're gonna
have a chance to win some fabulous prizes coming up.
I'm believing or not, that'll be in about to fifty
minutes from now. All right, so we don't ever get uh.
Nick Cassara on the show and Ross, I'm gonna be
honest with you. I'm thinking I'm okay with that because
it's a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:48:51):
Of word salad. But if we were ever offered him,
we'd take him. Mm hmmm. I'd say, Man, let's just chill,
you mean, Nick, Let's just let's talk some about some broccoli,
some cauliflower and some chicken breasts and no seasoning, and
that would be that'd be a good way to kind
of open things up a little bit, right, mm hmm.
That's his daily meal, okay.
Speaker 12 (01:49:10):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:49:10):
The Buffalo Media and there's a it's a it's a
two sport town between the Sabers and the Buffalo Bills,
but there it's prime. It's prime NFL territory when it
comes to its fan base. I mean, they're diehard Bills Nation.
I really thought they were gonna go to the super
Bowl this year, but maybe this next year, who knows.
Speaker 1 (01:49:28):
Uh. So the general manager goes on the radio show.
I'm assuming that's gonna be the flagship station of the
Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 2 (01:49:37):
His name is Brandon Bean. He's an enterprising young man.
Ross if you knew that or not, okay, i'd imagine
he is. He's made that life. So apparently the wide
receiver position has been null and void. The last couple
of years, remember when they lost to Von Dix, to
the trade with the Texans, and they have not really
addressed it.
Speaker 1 (01:49:55):
So says these Boston these Buffalo radio hosts.
Speaker 2 (01:49:57):
Well, Brandon Bean goes on the radio and says, I
hear what you've been talking about.
Speaker 1 (01:50:01):
And here's what his response was, No, it.
Speaker 6 (01:50:04):
Was it was I was just listen to the last
few minutes of your show before I came home, waiting
on in here. I was like twenty eighteen all over
with you guys.
Speaker 3 (01:50:12):
Oh, we're very how so well?
Speaker 16 (01:50:15):
You guys were bitching in twenty eighteen about Josh Allen.
You guys wanted Josh Rosen, and now you guys are
bitching that we don't have a receiver.
Speaker 6 (01:50:22):
I don't get it, like we just score. Hold on,
let me talk.
Speaker 16 (01:50:26):
We just scored thirty points in a row for eight
straight games a year ago. I get you guys asking
why we didn't have receivers, but I don't understand it.
Speaker 6 (01:50:36):
Now. You just saw us lead the league in points.
When you add all the postseason, no one scored more
points than the Buffalo Bills, including the Super Bowl champions.
Speaker 16 (01:50:46):
So you just saw us do it without Stefan Diggs saying, group,
how is this group not better than last year's group? Like,
I don't like our job is to score points and
win games. Where do we need to get better defense?
We did that, so I get it. You gotta have
a show, and you gotta you gotta have something to
bitch about.
Speaker 6 (01:51:04):
But bitching about wide receiver is one of the dumbest
arguments I've heard.
Speaker 1 (01:51:11):
Wow, shut your bumbass up in there. Bet Yeah. So
Jonathan explained to the audience how these talk show hosts
were listening to this and going on.
Speaker 11 (01:51:25):
Immediately when he started talking, they started looking at each other.
Speaker 2 (01:51:34):
I will say I've had very few combative conversations with
front office people and managers over the years. Part of
it is because they have a tough enough job as
it is. Second of all, we uh, there's very few
times that are just those good old fashioned head scratching moments.
The only time I ever really got kind of sideways
(01:51:58):
or something was probably Ed Wade.
Speaker 1 (01:52:01):
We used to do back in the day.
Speaker 2 (01:52:02):
Ross We used to do these general manager shows once
a month, And remember when Ed was taking over and
towards the end he was selling pieces.
Speaker 1 (01:52:08):
Off and blah blah, blah blah blah, And.
Speaker 2 (01:52:11):
They were trying to sell us that Chris Carter was
going to be a future first baseman and that just
wasn't gonna work out. And he and I are doing
the show, and he texted me during their break and
he was not overly pleased with some of the tones
of the questions.
Speaker 1 (01:52:23):
I was going my direction. But that's so rare.
Speaker 2 (01:52:30):
I mean, I appreciate the general manager going on the show,
and I appreciate it's just not this, yeah, a love
fest back and forth. But I think crazy doing Buffalo
Radio Ross, we'd probably be saying, hey, this has been
a position of need for the last couple of.
Speaker 1 (01:52:42):
Years and it hasn't been addressed.
Speaker 3 (01:52:44):
I don't think draft key on Coleman last year.
Speaker 2 (01:52:45):
He was a rookie. Yeah, they just signed Kleiol Shakira
to a big deal. I'm just looking around. Oh, they
got Joshua Palmer and they're hoping Dawson Knox or Dalton
and Cake can be good. It doesn't seem that terrible.
I wonder what the guys were saying that he thought
was so unfair. Maybe he thought they would draft one
pulling up the Bills draft. They went cornerback, detackle, edge, detackle,
cornerback in their first five picks, So they clearly had
(01:53:07):
an emphasis on defense, which I think is smart for
the Bills. They're pretty Josh Allen can throw it to
a limp post and be okay because he's gonna be
running around. And the reality is when the general manager
comes out and says we're here to score points, we
score the most points ever, you kind of not necessarily
putting in your place. But it's like, hey, hard to argue.
We're just seeing things differently here, and I got some
(01:53:27):
evidence that backs my sign.
Speaker 1 (01:53:29):
Up a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:53:32):
Yeah, Like I said, I mean going heavy defense. And
then you know they took a tight end in round
five and then went cornerback again. So six of their
first seven picks on the defensive side of the ball.
That's probably what you need in Buffalo.
Speaker 1 (01:53:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:53:49):
Yeah, But I think when you're in Buffalo and you
have nothing else to talk about besides that, in the Sabers,
you're really you've got that, You've got that microscope looking
at every single pick, and Tarlie probably trying to compensated
for it. Yeah, they're probably probably hoping Keon Coleman's going
to develop, which I don't necessarily think he is. I think, yeah,
he's just not good enough. But that's my opinion. Khalisha
(01:54:12):
here's good. And then they have a couple of tight ends,
and then you have Josh.
Speaker 1 (01:54:15):
Josh Rosen was gonna be a decent NFL quarterback. I
missed that. That was before Thomas Sports Enterprises was good.
Speaker 2 (01:54:21):
Yeah, I thought Jeaed Josh Allen was looking every bit
of a bust.
Speaker 1 (01:54:26):
He just was because we didn't know much about him.
He was at Wyoming. Meanwhile, Rosen's at UCLA putting up
these prolific.
Speaker 2 (01:54:33):
Numbers, and he had bad he had bad accuracy issues
Josh Allen and and generally NFL history tells you that
those cannot be corrected. But he's done a pretty good
job of it. I think probably the most incredible thing
about Josh Allen is his running running ability.
Speaker 1 (01:54:48):
Yes, being a big, strong arm six', five throw the
ball deep down the. Field cannon he can.
Speaker 3 (01:54:52):
Move, yeah he's got a cannon and he's a great.
Speaker 2 (01:54:55):
Runner.
Speaker 1 (01:54:56):
Yeah all, Right so just let you know that if
we can go on the air today and say The
texans probably didn't do enough in terms of grabbing interior
alignment at least from through the, draft right that's Not,
yeah unfair to.
Speaker 2 (01:55:10):
SAY i don't think. So But Titus, howard come on.

is getting no minutes at? All and he's your really
your best three point.
Speaker 1 (02:02:40):
Shooter off the.
Speaker 5 (02:02:40):
Bench and If i'm The, WARRIORS i probably would Risk
Jimmy butler myself at keep them For game five because
since he squeeze out another, win because The rockets are
district And Jimmy butler's coming fresh off the, injury he
won't be one hundred. Percent but, AGAIN i just wanted to,
ask why do y'all think he May.
Speaker 2 (02:02:58):
Dokah so husitant to go?
Speaker 5 (02:03:00):
Deeper it is, business just stay with an eight man,
rotation just heading.
Speaker 1 (02:03:03):
Up thank you good stuff on that. Holiday to, me
from a defensive, standpoint is going to really hurt, You
AND i think he really only can create.
Speaker 2 (02:03:19):
His shot if they go to, zone Which Golden state
has not done a lot. OF i, MEAN i would
sprinkle him in for a couple of minutes here and.
THERE i mean we've seen that right now with The
warriors side of, Things ross That Steve kerr has gone
deeper to his. Bench BUT i would not say huge difference.
Maker but maybe you got to find something. Again how
(02:03:40):
do you react to Watching Jalen green struggle from the
floor for another game of the. Series how do you
react to the fact that they put the kaibash On
Van vliet after the first? QUARTER i, MEAN i think
these are subtle, adjustments AND i would say that Probably
aaron Haldy is is certainly in the, mix BUT i
don't think it.
Speaker 1 (02:03:58):
Would be a significant difference. MAKER i Hope i'm wrong about,
that BUT i. DON'T i JUST i see him being
a guy that would be no more than say a
five or six minute guy on the floor just to
spell somebody, else especially if somebody is in foul. Trouble,
YEAH i think it would be on bench.
Speaker 2 (02:04:10):
Minutes it would be certainly When Steph curry is off the,
floor just for not That Aaron holliday is a defensive.
Sieve he's ACTUALLY i think a touch underrated by some
of the fan.
Speaker 1 (02:04:20):
Base but.
Speaker 2 (02:04:23):
It would just be limited bench, minutes just to go
in there and get some threes and see if he
can get. Hot it's very clear That udoka wants to
make sure he's playing great, defense and and The rockets
have played great defense all series. Long it's just the
offenses that that is that has bogged them down in
their two. Losses, uh and what else do you ask About? Doka,
(02:04:44):
oh by the, WAY i Think Jimmy butler is gonna play.
Tonight get a little bit of whispers, That oh, OKAY
i was gonna ask because you know what you want
to do if You're golden stat, Honestly, ross you want
to don't you want to put the foot on the
on the neck.
Speaker 4 (02:04:57):
Exactly you can't, say, oh we we can afford to
lose this. Game it's a seven game. Series you can't
afford to lose any.
Speaker 1 (02:05:02):
Game.
Speaker 3 (02:05:02):
Matt they're all of the utmost.
Speaker 1 (02:05:04):
Importance but could you imagine the conference level of The
Golden state would have going three to one To, houston
a place they've won plenty of games over the.
Speaker 2 (02:05:10):
Years, Yeah Jimmy butler on the floor helps your team
if he can go you.
Speaker 1 (02:05:14):
Plan that's just it's very.
Speaker 2 (02:05:16):
Simple, yeah and again it puts not nearly as much
pressure On Steph, curry Though steph has great games with
With butler on the floor and certainly had one. WITHOUT
i just, ROSS i can't Handle Gary payton and, buddy
he'll beating. Me uh, well you, know let's hope it
doesn't happen.
Speaker 1 (02:05:34):
Anymore all, right come, on quick calls before we get
to a little bit With Tim. Roy renfro whether us
at one thirty two one. SEVEN i Need, renfro good. Afternoon,
hey what's going on fellows?
Speaker 17 (02:05:46):
HERE i got one question to, ask AND i wanted
to know if y'all recognized you Notice texan they draft it.
All If i'm not, mistaken they DRAFTED i AND i
want to know if if the philosophy behind it is
because the singers would have more body work in as
(02:06:08):
far as, football and they would be a little bit
more coachable with the added experience that they. Am so
what do you think about the all that draft charts
is being mostly? Seniors thank, You.
Speaker 1 (02:06:21):
Thank, You. RENFRO i don't really have an opinion on
it one way or the. Other, ROSS i would say
THAT i still believe that The texans mantra has been
if there are flags up with certain, people we're going
to stay away from. THEM i don't think being LEAVING
nf colleges earlier year would be one of those. Flags
(02:06:41):
SO i WOULD i would chalk it up to coincidental
at this.
Speaker 2 (02:06:44):
Point, yeah usually that means They're if somebody's leaving after
their red, shirt sophomore or their junior, year that means
they're one of the best.
Speaker 1 (02:06:51):
Athletes, yeah on the. Planet SO i.
Speaker 2 (02:06:54):
Again maybe he would say something just to the, Opposite
BUT i do not equate old players necessarily meaning that
The texans would stay away from younger players so they
thought there was a better player but a different. Position,
YEAH i don't think that's been necessarily a. PHILOSOPHY i
think Was Kamari. LASSITER i think he was an underclassman last, year.
Speaker 1 (02:07:16):
Right you have to go look that.
Speaker 2 (02:07:18):
Up, Yeah, Yeah i'm Sure Derek stingley was an, underclassman,
RIGHT C.
Speaker 1 (02:07:25):
J STROUD i think had eligibility. Left it Was Will
ANDERSON i think it.
Speaker 3 (02:07:29):
Was A, YEAH i think he. Was he had eligibility as.
Speaker 2 (02:07:31):
Well, yeah SO i would, say just off of what
we just referenced in the last, minute that it's just.
Speaker 3 (02:07:36):
Coincidental it's not can't be a bad, thing experience can't be.
Speaker 2 (02:07:40):
Bad but maybe the most dynamic and in special athletes
come out.
Speaker 1 (02:07:43):
Early so, YEAH i mean think about.
Speaker 2 (02:07:48):
This if you are on the draft board in the
third round and you have you left, college, drue it
means there must have been a reason why you probably
should have stayed in.
Speaker 1 (02:07:55):
College. Probably, yeah that's.
Speaker 2 (02:07:57):
True, yeah let's go to our buddy at one. Thirtive,
well what do you got?
Speaker 1 (02:08:02):
Today? Oh nothing, much good, afternoon. Fellas.
Speaker 12 (02:08:05):
HEY i wanted to ask, you is If thompson's uh
defense that much better Than Jabari smith that when we
need points we can't Put jabari. IN i think he
he and Maybe adams were only guys that were plus
the other. Day it's, like, uh AND i think he's
one of our better. Players he's sort of weak, sometimes
but he can get a shot. Off thompson can't shoot at,
(02:08:28):
all can't do layups if he's not duncan or laying
the ball. Up is you, Know i'm just watching these
games and it's Like jabbari even the first. Game in
the second, game he puts up, points he goes to
sits on the bench and he doesn't come.
Speaker 1 (02:08:41):
Back and we just Watched, thompson who's the.
Speaker 12 (02:08:43):
Athlete but is he just that much better defensively that
we don't care That jabari can.
Speaker 1 (02:08:48):
Score he's when he wants. To you, Know, easton what About?
Easton we could even Put, yeah they're all gonna get.
Speaker 2 (02:08:56):
TIME i, mean think about, This, well this is only
an eight man, rotation SO i don't necessarily think that
anybody is.
Speaker 1 (02:09:02):
Going, Man I'm i'm leaving it all on the. Floor.
Speaker 2 (02:09:04):
Now could you see an uptick In jabari's? Minutes, yeah
especially if a man struggles on the. Floor but a,
man despite not having a good, shot still was. Shooting
WHAT Rossi during the regular she's in about fifty percent
from the. FLOOR i, mean granted a lot of it
was in the dunker, spot.
Speaker 1 (02:09:20):
But that's the.
Speaker 12 (02:09:21):
Playoffs So i'm talking about at the end of the
game when we need points and he shooting you, know
five foot, break you, know like he.
Speaker 1 (02:09:28):
No, no, No it's been tough to. WATCH i can't
argue that with. You, WELL i can't it it seems
like he doesn't Like. SMITH i don't.
Speaker 2 (02:09:35):
Know to, me, no, no, no far from, it far
far From he Likes Jabari smith a. Lot he's talked about. That, yeah, yeah, yeah,
Praise but he just became dynamic in the starting. SPOT
i mean, again he's a jack of all. Trades he's
a guy that could play. Four he can guard four
positions on the. COURT i mean there's and as great
As jabari as, DEFENSIVELY i don't want him on the
wing against you, know an explosive point guard trying to
(02:09:57):
get past and where.
Speaker 1 (02:09:57):
Men he doesn't care about that kind of.
Speaker 12 (02:09:58):
Stuff, NO i get, THAT i get, THAT i get,
YEAH i get. That but when we need points like we've,
got we've Got Vaan fleet jacking the ball up, right
and then we've Got, CHAGOON i don't know what he was, doing,
Right the only guy that seemed like to score when
he was in Was, smith and he at the end
of the, game he just wasn't getting In and it
just seems like he's the only guy that could.
Speaker 1 (02:10:20):
Score, right he was like eight four for. Eight, well,
WELL i don't think you're that far.
Speaker 2 (02:10:25):
OFF i think they're Gonna if a man continues to
struggle from the. Floor you're gonna see an effort to
see somebody out there that can do. It tari hasn't
shot really well during this series. EITHER i, MEAN i,
Mean i'm looking at the numbers here ross The rockets
in this series are only Shooting let's, see they've been
under forty percent of the games and the one they
won they were forty five, Percent SO i mean they
(02:10:45):
haven't been over.
Speaker 1 (02:10:46):
Fifty group that that's it's not. Good it's not.
Speaker 2 (02:10:50):
Good and it's some credit to The Golden State warriors
defense And Draymond. Green but you're you're also talking about
as far as What willa was talking, about it's a
defensive minded coach who likes dogs and Am In. Thompson
he finished fourth In Defensive player of The year, voting like.
He Evan mobley had the most first place votes with,
Eleven Amen thompson had, Four SO i mean there are
(02:11:12):
people that think he is the best defender on the.
Planet so, absolutely to this, Point udoka has valued What
Aman thompson has brought defensively over his shortcomings.
Speaker 3 (02:11:24):
Offensively, YEAH i.
Speaker 2 (02:11:25):
Understand, PHILOSOPHICALLY i Like Jabari Smith junior as. WELL i
like him spacing the. Floor but and if he did
start Over Aman, THOMPSON i wouldn't think it'd be the
craziest thing on the.
Speaker 3 (02:11:34):
PLANET i just don't expect.
Speaker 2 (02:11:36):
It and the question would also ultimately be if you
all of a sudden asked For jabari's volume to go,
up would there still be the same. Success, yeah he's
very limited offensively as. WELL i, mean he can get the,
occasionally but he's got five to ten to fifteen foot
pull up and then he knocks, open wide open. Threes
it's not Like Jabari Smith junior is just like breaking
guys down and making plays for other people and stuff like.
Speaker 1 (02:11:56):
That.
Speaker 2 (02:11:56):
YEAH i, Mean jabari's played about twenty five minutes a
game in each one of the three, games and he's
taking fifteen. Shots SO i don't think he's going in
and maybe the mentality has to change.
Speaker 1 (02:12:07):
It he's got to go in and be a little
bit more of a. Score who.
Speaker 2 (02:12:09):
KNOWS i Think men's gonna be give in every opportunity
because of his defensive prowess to stay in the, game
and hopefully the dunker spot becomes a better spot for.
Him all he's got to DO rossi gets hit the elbow,
jumpers because that's what team that the teams are giving,
him the elbow. Jumpers well that includes oprin chingun to
The rocket turn, Trouble Amn thompson taking a bunch of
elbow jumpers is not good offense for The. Rockets, no
(02:12:31):
but they're but they're right now giving it to him
a little bit right. Now With Tim, roy the voice
of The Golden State, warriors we visited with him earlier
today and we talked about how much of a breather
The warriors have because they were able to at least
split the well at least a split here In San,
francisco especially Winning game three Without Jimmy butler on the.
Speaker 9 (02:12:49):
Floor, yeah there's no question that was a, big big
win for The. Warriors, uh you, know the du Without.
Jimmy jimmy turned the whole season.
Speaker 7 (02:12:56):
Around and so to do that.
Speaker 9 (02:12:59):
To get contributions from other, guys you, know when you're
in the, playoffs if you get contributions from role players
that are, big you're you're more than likely you're gonna
win the. Game and so, yeah it.
Speaker 7 (02:13:11):
Was it was a big.
Speaker 9 (02:13:12):
Win AND i think that that they, felt you, Know
i'm pretty sure nobody would say they want to go
back TO. Too but they if you had told them
you could go back TO, TOO i think they would
have taken. That but but but you, know and now
you know from the warrior, perspective now it's time to get.
Greedy you, Know jimmy plays or. Not if he does,
return WHICH i think there's a chance of that, tonight
(02:13:32):
THEN i think you get greedy and try to go
back three.
Speaker 1 (02:13:35):
One, yeah for. Sure it's so funny looking at social,
Media tim and, You i'm sure you've seen it.
Speaker 2 (02:13:40):
Yourself but the buddy healed the crowd as a mixed.
Crowd he helps you out one night and then you
don't hear from him four or five. Games is that
how it's been so far as him as a, warrior
is that he you, know comes and, goes.
Speaker 9 (02:13:53):
You, know on the, floor he comes and goes off the.
Floor he's, consistent and he's good for this. Team he
keeps everybody, on you, know. Loose he's a funny, guy
he's a nice, guy and everybody Loves. Buddy so his
contributions are more consistent off the floor than on the.
Floor BUT i think that's that's the way shooters. Are you,
(02:14:13):
know he's not you, know guys who are you, know
great shooters tend to be a little, streaky And buddy
is that there's gonna be a nights where he's gonna
be you, know four of seven and from, three and
there's gonna Be knights where he's one of seven from,
three and so you have to kind of figure out
where he is on particular. Nights but but, AGAIN i
think his contributions for this team are really great off
(02:14:36):
the floor that nobody Dislikes, buddy. Heals he And Jimmy
butler had this great thing where they interrupt their press
sessions and stuff where it's pretty humorous if you listen
to him all the. Time but, YEAH i just think
that's the way it is with. Shooters they tend to
be kind of a streaky. Guy and, ALSO i think
in the playoffs it's harder for a guy Like buddy
(02:14:59):
to get going because you, know the other team's been
drilled over and. Over don't give him an open, shot
don't let him get comfortable be on the three point.
Speaker 7 (02:15:08):
Line SO i, think you, know in.
Speaker 9 (02:15:09):
Playoff, SITUATIONS i think shooters have trouble getting going because
the other, team unlike the regular, season where you, know
all of.
Speaker 7 (02:15:16):
A, Sudden Buddy hell pops out of.
Speaker 9 (02:15:18):
Nowhere for the, opposition you, know they're drilled over and
over again at every. Practice don't leave.
Speaker 7 (02:15:23):
Him he's a. Shooter and SO i think it's harder
for those guys in the.
Speaker 1 (02:15:26):
Postseason Tim, roy the voice of The Golden Cerate warriors
with us here on The Matt Thomas show With rosster,
time he's eleven thirty. Three So, tim you go with the.
Speaker 2 (02:15:34):
Double a bigger, lineup Putting Quinton posts in starting? Five that,
is you, know obviously a change of what not Having
jimmy out?
Speaker 1 (02:15:42):
There what did you think of?
Speaker 2 (02:15:43):
That and even Though posts did not help out in
terms of going Mono mono Against Shin gun was more
outpring going Against Draymond, green the rebounding numbers were much
better than the first two games of the. Series and
and do you think That steve will go with that
lineup again?
Speaker 1 (02:15:56):
TONIGHT i think he.
Speaker 7 (02:15:59):
Could, have especially If jimmy doesn't. GO i think he
would probably go with.
Speaker 9 (02:16:03):
That the other part about, IT i remember Telling Tom
tolbert my analysts during the, game at one point Quinchin
post was leading The warriors and. Assists if you had
that on your big no. Card well you you scored,
Big so, YEAH i THOUGHT i thought he played, well you,
know for a. Rookie the one thing we've known about
(02:16:24):
him since he started to play is he doesn't have any.
Fear AND i think it's partially because In, europe the
younger players play against, men so this is nothing new to, them,
Right they've played against men their entire, lives and SO
i think it gives him a better preparation for THE.
Speaker 2 (02:16:41):
Nba in a couple of comments From Tim, roy the
voice of The Golden State warriors game number four, tonight
