NFL Draft, We had the Astros finally putting up some
numbers yesterday against the Kansas City Royals after going with
twenty six innings without scoring anything. And then we have
the rockets Saturday performance against the Golden State Warriors.

stressful times right now for the Houston Rockets, especially. Don't

quite frankly, the good thing is, I mean, Schador Sanders
in a criminal They've dealt with guys who have been
beating their girlfriends, stealing stuff, you know whatever. If you
can help an NFL team win, they will draft you.

This was a mid level NFL prospect up for Mel
Kuiper and an arrogant father who's probably gonna look for
people to get fired to take the job. So I
was king quarterback his son. Short of that, that's the storyline. Yeah,
I don't. You didn't need a deep scene.

second third round pick on a lot of people's board.

and I don't get it. Are you really going to
fall on your sword for Shador Sanders of all, I
mean he was fighting with people on his set on ESPN.

I think, you know, Matt, if you take a hardline stance,
and I think we see this in politics and other

be a believe you're wrong and you don't know what

remembered for this. If Shadoor is a decent NFL quarterback,

If he's wrong and he's nothing more than a backup
quarterback or a guy that moves from team to team
to team to team, why would I trust mel Kiper's
credibility for anything, because he spent the entire every time

Reece Davis overs it wasn't crazy, And yeah, the last
time I remember him stumping for a guy that felt
like this was Jimmy Clauson. So ooh, but nobody nobody
gets one hundred percent of the draft picks, right, So

it was the astro stuff going on the draft. But
it's playoff time, so I'm locked in on the Rockets
right now. In game number four, a pivotal game number
four tonight, Rockets three and a half point underdogs.

We'll see what happens with Jimmy Butler.

So were you, and I'll use the term exasperated over
the fact that, Yes, Warriors won a game with Jimmy
Butler not on the floor. It was extremely frustrating, especially
they they started Quinton Post.

They wanted to.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
Clearly they knew that they were having some issues on
the boards and issues dealing with Outprenching. So starting Quinton
Post and having him on Aman Thompson allowed Draymond Green
to take Alprinching Goon on one on one. It was
a great adjustment by Steve Kerr and out of necessity
because Jimmy Butler was out, so Draymond Green could guard
Alprynching Goon one on one and did a pretty good

job on him. And then Quinton Post could provide some
help down there because you can just sag off of
Amn Thompson. And so what the Rockets did, I don't
think it was necessarily in the game plan, but the
way it unfolded was that that meant Amn Thompson had
a lot of space to operate with Quinton coast on him,
and he just couldn't take advantage of it.

He went five for sixteen. So Alprinching Goon missed a
lot of buckets in the paint. You went nineteen out
of night. You can't go nineteen to forty eight in
the paint, you just can't. They went nineteen of forty
eight in the paint and Alpryching Gooon and Amn Thompson
missing a lot of those.

Now, credit by the way.

Also not to interrupted, but they also went five or
fifteen on second chance opportunities. That's one of the things
they've lived off of is the offensive rebound and put backs. Yeah,
and a lot of those I'm sure were in the paint.
So yeah, it so credit to the Warriors for playing
good paint defense.

But a'm in and Alburn especially need to be better.

Jalen Green was missing threes and he wasn't aggressive, but
that was because a lot of the shots did go
to the guys down low. And you just add that
all up and it was a disappointing game. And oh,
by the way, on the other side, Rockets did a
really good job defensively. But Steph Curry is just an alien.

Thirty six points, nine assists, seven rebounds.

Speaker 3 (13:27):
He was special.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Nobody in the Rockets was even, I mean above, Jabari
Smith Jr. Had twelve points. You know, people are talking
about him like, oh yeah, he had a good game.
He's had twelve points off the bench. It's not like
he'd liked that. He lit the world up. Nobody scored
over twenty. Nobody was special. Nobody rose above what the
Warriors were throwing at them. Steph Curry rose above what
the Rockets are throwing at them, and they won the game.

I think the term that I'm going to steal off
of you is special. You have to win a playoff
game in a playoff series, be special. Jalen Green in
game number two was special. He took over the game
and did things that made him the guy that the
Rockets extended and you say, all right, I can build
the team around him.

That was a special performance.

They were You know, if Jabari Smith was your most
effective in terms of on the court player, that's not
going to be great.

It's not gonna be enough.

Yeah, he was a nice three of five from three.
Twelve points, five rebounds is good.

Yeah, hits the mid range nicely.

I don't know what's happened with men, but a men's
mid range is and like going right now at this point, I.

I mean, I think he's he's best, like running down
to the basket. And I think it's the Warriors. It's
been drilled in them. They're they're very prepared. This happens.
You know, you play in the in the season, Matt,
you play three games at four nights. That third team
isn't ready for for Amen Thompson, Like they know that
he can't shoot, but there it's not drilled into them.
In a seven game playoff series with days off in between.
Everybody on that Warrior squad knows sag off of men

Thompson make him beat you ten to fifteen feet and
he can't do that consistently at this stage of his career.

And for a guy that doesn't shoot much inside except
for inside fifteen fet, he's only forty one percent from

he would have had thirteen and then finishes with just

I thought Dylan had a good start as well, but

The double Bigs worked for a while. Unfortunately, free throw

And going back to the most essential thing about anything
talking about Golden State, Steph Curry in theory, not literally
but figuratively, is unstoppable. When he wants to take over

Coach Udoka tried to take him out of the game.
They blitzed him a lot and double teamed him a
lot on pick and rolls, and and it was effective
for a little bit, but they adjusted to it. They
found what they did was they on those pick and rolls,
they had Gary Payton get running basically on a on
a runway and then Steph Curry finding him running to
the basket and he got a couple of easy baskets

On the flip side, Jalen.

Green was getting blitzed and double teamed and that's one
of the reasons he only got eleven shots up because
he they were just taking the ball out of his
hands and the Rockets did not adjust to it as
well as the Warriors adjusted on the other side. Yeah,

teams that go up three to one win the series.

get this win and come home and you have If

Yeah, And again it's it's just it's a it's a
byproduct of history and right, Fred is different than every
team is built differently. This team is the best team
it's been, at least in the last handful of years.
But there's just something about Golden State, something about Steph Curry,
something about Draymond Green, something about getting in fracases and
foul trouble and altercations and talel throwing and whatnot that

Yeah, And that's the two biggest reasons they won on
Saturday was Draymond's defense and Steph Curry being special.

And you know how many times have you seen that.

I need Outpa to get right in Draymond's face and
go after him and just do what you can the
pull ups, in the finesse shots, and oh there's just
times I just want I want Alpa to be the
consistent low block. Put your ass of the backsket, jump,
pook your way, slides it because your footwork is so incredible.

And I know Draymon is an excellent defender for being
six foot six, and you could do that against Post
or you may be able to do it against Draymond Green.
But there's got to be a little happy medium here, right.

Yeah, he needs to be more aggressive, like you said,
but I think a couple of things. Uh, Draymond Green
is really strong, and also he does a good job
of poking the ball away and just stifling outbrnching Goon.

they're drilled over and over again at every practice. Don't

piece with Jimmy, But on a night like last Saturday,
and you've known Steph for a long part of me
his entire career, you've known him, does he have a

different mindset with the people around him, or does he
pretty much going to every game going I can knock
back ten three pointers? Or do you think there was
a part of him on Saturday that said, you know what,
no disrespect to Buddy Healed, or to Moses Moody, or
to Gary Payton. But if we're gonna win this game,
I've got to knock down a bunch of shots.

Yeah. I think he felt that going in. I think
he understands the situation.

Most nights the are knights where he doesn't look to

he's an incredible player. He's an incredible person, and you know,
I think at some point we're going to look back
and say, Wow, we got to see this guy play

Houston Rockets the way they have it over the last

think so that was the team that they had the
Warriors had to get. You know, the Warriors had to
get past Houston to get to the finals, and as
we know, those series were not you know, the Warriors
didn't walk over those series. They had to dig deep
to win those games. And so so yeah, I think
it just became a natural rivalry with the with the personnel,

you know, combined with the talent that Houston had.

And the coaching they had.

I mean, you know, unfortunately for the Rockets fans, that
didn't end up the way they would have liked. But

men Thompson has a struggle from the floor as much
as he has so far. What do you think has
been the man we're beating our chess moment so far

for Golden State, at least on the defensive side of things.

For a defensive side of things, I think they're just
happy that they've made some people uncomfortable, and I think
that's part of it. And I think, you know, for
Green and Jalen Green and for Amon Thompson, I think
this is part of their growth. This is part of
their maturity because you know, nothing the coach says, nothing

a teammate says, can really prepare you for the intensity
and the the atmosphere of a playoff series. So I
think in a couple of years, it's just say, for
arguments sake, say the Warriors win this series. But in
a couple of years, the Rockets are gonna win a hard,
tough series and their young guys are gonna look back
and say, well, that series kind of taught us how

we need to be. How what preparation you know, we
had to do to win a playoff series. And I

extreme defensive versatility. He's really good and we like what
