Speaker 1 (00:00):

Good morning, this is no longer the Sewn Salisbury Show.
Get out of our studio. All right, that's Sean, that's Dan,
you're Ross. Good morning everybody. Hope you guys are in
a fantastic mood. Hey, we are not gonna lolligag on

(00:24):
this radio show today. Sports arevy. It is four hours
of intense sports conversation on the show today. Don't you agree? Yes?
All right, yes, gotta get you some cole bruggets, some colebrew.
I got's here a problem with that? I have some
what's my Oh, Jonathan, is something something something happen I

(00:45):
don't know about I don't know. You tell me, I
don't know. All right, Hey doing great? Are you okay?
You look good? Thank you? Like you've lost a couple
I think I have actually, thank you a little more
aerobic exercise. Ah yeah, I doing on a long a
lot of on lengthy hikes on my vacation. I know
I need to start. I need to get away from
you less stress eating. I've actually gained two pounds. I'm

(01:06):
pretty happy with this. That's good. Yeah, because that tapeworm
is doing a number on you. You're looking gaunt. That's
not nice. People have been asking me about you. Oh
my god, I hope you're saying nice things about me.
Hey is he? Okay? Wait, I'm doing this great? Thank you,
thank you. We have a busy show today. We're with
you till two o'clock this day afternoon. Now you make
your thinking. Sorry, that's terrible. What can I don't want

(01:29):
to say that for Friday. I'm sorry. I'm just kidding
that nobody's asking me about you. Trust God.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Oh, thank you. I'm sorry about that one too. Yeah,
I bet you're a wait. I'm trying to move along
with the show. All right, this show today till two o'clock.
We'll feature Got Feelings at eleven thirty. At twelve noon.
We will not do the news at noon.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
Today because Dimiko is going to speak at twelve o'clock
and we will carry that for you here on the
radio program. And that's some some news at noon. Oh well,
I think it is because frankly, you're losing lineman. Jake
Andrews could be out significant period of time, already a
very thin position, and you're gonna be down for him,
for he's got a broken foot. And unfortunately probably Cej's next.

(02:13):
I see what stop, stop stop, He's fine, he's only
he only got sacked three times. Who like, you don't
have any kids? No, but your brother is your closest
family member, right with fair? How would you feel if
your brother was taking snaps as the quarterback of the

(02:34):
Texans behind that offense, be sitting here with you? What
do you mean you'd be worried for his life? You
only I'm worried about c Oh my God, tell you
that's football, baby, all right. News at noon at twelve
Mat Staff got a bad back and he was getting sacked. Yeah,
but he knows how to take sacks. He's fine. He
didn't take any big hits, just kept losing yards and said,

(02:56):
I'm gonna turn this a five yard loss into eleven
yard loss.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
All right.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
Well, he thought he could move out of the way
and he couldn't. He's got to get better at that. Yeah,
all right, Joe spot At twelve thirty, the NFL re
wanted one twenty and I will handle I believe it
or not today at one fifty. So that's the radio
program today, Okay, I gotta be brutally honest with you.
Minnesota Chicago. To me, I know, it was a Monday

(03:19):
night opener. Didn't really move the needle for me. I
don't have a big dog in the fight. It was
a pretty good game. It was a really good game.
I'm not saying I didn't watch it, but I didn't.
But I didn't like watch every second of it, especially
since my fantasy team was all right, good, congratulations to
the Toros. I well, I mean, it's not that your
team total, that's our fight song. Yeah, hopefully you can

(03:43):
get your your first championship. We're all rooting for. I
really need it because it'll really it'll keep you quiet
for a while. I don't think so I'm back to
back to bet. I'm gonna say that until my team's
not looking so hot. So I'm gonna say that. Give
your personal waver list I get those snaps while I can. Yes, right,
uh So the game itself was just okay. I was

(04:04):
Kim's like, can we watch something that's not Sports Leader
because all day Sunday, I say, woman, I'm trying to work.
Shut joby mass up. How many Minnesota Chicago calls would
we get during the show today? Seven? All right, So
if you would like to be one of the seven
people that called in for the discussion of last night's
Minnesota Chicago game. Seven one, three two seven. Jonathan, please

(04:26):
keep track of the number of calls on the Minnesota
Chicago game we get on the show today. Okay, let's
talk about the game, but we can all you can
you spin it towards Houston Matt For example, did you
see how elusive Caleb Williams was and that arm accuracy
on the run. I mean, he looks better than than
c J. Stroud has so far this There were some
passes he missed yesterday. True, there were there were a
lot of open ones, especially the tight end over in

(04:48):
the middle of the field. He was way overthrown. His
receis He can definitely wow you, but he definitely has
some accuracy issues. I think c J. Stroud is one
of his best assets is his accuracy, especially under duress. Yes,
even though he doesn't throws JJ McCarthy yesterday, I thought
he was really bad early. They were having some issues,
like he couldn't even get into plays and then he
was throwing some dimes late, especially that throw to Aaron

(05:10):
Jones at the end. The touchdown to Justin Jefferson was
a really good throw. What, Oh, you don't want CJ
to be better? Wait a minute, you're what you're not? Well,
how about we had this I want c CJ to
be better conversation a month. We're just talking about I'm

(05:30):
not I'm not declaring JJ McCarthy and Caleb Williams better
than c J.

Speaker 4 (05:33):
Stroup.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
Okay, I just just a gut feeling we had many
years ago. Remember that quarter was the quarterback draft. Drafted
two years ago. I thought all those first round guys
are going The only two guys I thought were gonna
make any difference was would be Jane Daniels in Washington
and Jaylen Williams in Chicago. I didn't think j McCarthy

(05:56):
was going to Bail Wims Kayla Williams. I didn't think
that Jji McCarthy was gonna that good. I didn't think
Drake May would be that good. So those are the
only two guys I really pay close attention to. And
Caleb based on your tape evaluations. Well, I mean you
already know, my Texans insider, that's true. I'm also an
NFL analyst. Well, will Lewis was a Thomas Sports Enterprises guy. Yeah,

(06:20):
we've gone dormant with Thomas Sports Enterprises. We're taking a break.
I'm just saying watching other guys make big time throws
and throw a touchdown which shed shrouded not do it
was making me a little jealous. That's all I'm saying. Okay,
I didn't I didn't get that fuel yesterday. So back
to my point. So, while the Minnesota Chicago game did

(06:42):
not like overly enthrall me, She's like, can you find something?
So there's nothing on commercial television that was particularly entertaining.
I mean there's reality shows and whatnot. N CIS Phoenix.
You know, there's like one night a week on CBS
that has nothing, but NIS is one after the other.
Really yeah, there's an NCIS after two people's names, I think.

(07:05):
Really yeah. You can see the promo during the broadcast,
like Tom and Jackson was Tom and Jarret? I think
it was like an Italian tim or something. I don't
know what it was. I couldn't figure out your Solving
Crimes C. I believe it was Heckel and Jekyl. So
I go to HBO okay, and the hangover was about
a half hour in Okay, it's a classic. And I

(07:26):
went to push it on. I thought, I'll just catch it,
and you could. I could actually rewind it to the
very beginning. M So we watched it and it probably
is the fiftieth time I've seen it. Okay. I laughed
as hard last night as I've had before. Can I
say this and please, You're gonna have to interrupt me
with some other answers hm hmmm. In my mind, that

(07:49):
might be the second funniest movie I've ever seen in
my entire life. It's in the short list. It's an
all time classic, and it's very rewatchable, as you said,
and when it first came out, it was it was
pushing the envelope like comedy always continues to push forward,
like what's tab you you? Comedy always towes the line
of what's taboo and what's not? Airplane did that? As

(08:11):
you said, I'm blazing saddles and stuff like that. That's
what makes comedy good is pushing and towing those lines.
And that's the hangover did that. There was so much
wrong with that movie, but it was so good. So
case in point A. Couple of years after his release,
I was in New Orleans. I don't know if I
was at a U of H game for Tulane, or

(08:32):
it was maybe earlier with the Rockets and I'm playing craps.
At at that point it was raris now it's Reezers okay,
and I'm playing craps in the other end of the table.
My buddy who's with me says, that's black Doug. And
that's not what I said.

Speaker 5 (08:48):
That was you.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
Yes, oh you know, I'm let you tell your version
of the story. Oh, this is even better, go ahead.
And I didn't really remember who black Doug was. No,
I said, that's Mike Epps and you had no clues.
See how mad Is miscontrued this story, Jonathan. I was like,
that's Mike Epps. You're like, yeah, I don't know who
that is. I was like, yeah, he's been in a

(09:09):
lot of movies. He was in Next Friday. I was
trying to think of everything that he had been black Dog, Yes,
and he was Black Doug in Hangover. That's that's the one.
I finally said. I named like three movies that I
was in and you're like, yeah, yeah, you're like, I'm
drawing a black I have no clue who that got.
And you said black Dog. I was like, oh, he's

(09:29):
black Dug and the Hangover. He's like, oh, oh guy,
Black Dog. And I saw Black Doug again on the
on the movie and he was phenomenal. Yes, and we
played craps with him, Yes we did. Hey was nice. Well,
first of all, I feel awful that it was you
that hope that was with me and you didn't remember
that it was me that you missed you. You related
the story incorrectly. I thought that you had said to well,

(09:51):
whoever my friend was, which turned out to be you
do we go on a rock Was it a Rocket
tripp or was it something? It was Rockets? Okays, early
on I think it was D'Antoni playing with us too.
I think the table there was Mike D'Antoni. There might
have been a certain Rockets player at the blackjack table
with us for a minute. You could say it, I
don't have to was it rhyme with you know? Oh okay, yeah,

(10:13):
oh Merrick Morton, Yes, okay, very good. Uh yeah. But
Black I was like Black Doug. I told Camosa I
played craps with Black Dog. That is so funny. I
mean he is like, well, I guess, yeah, that's fine whatever.
I mean, he's been in deaf comedy Jam, a bunch
of other stuff. Everything. Everything about that movie made me laugh.

(10:35):
Even the the camera photos at the very end of
the movie where you're we're supposed to walk on and
go to the group. The photos made I was belly laughing.
So that's how. That's how mister Texas spent us a
night home with his family watching Minnesota Chicago and watching
I Believe Behind Airplane, the second funniest movie I've ever

(10:55):
seen in my life. It's on the short list, It's
on my list. Might go like step Brothers in there somewhere, Oh,
step Brothers too, Oh, Stepbrothers Happy. Gilmour was good, but
I didn't laugh as loudly as I did in Step Brothers.
And I mean, my wife's like, can you can you relax?
You've seen this movie, your fest Yeah, but it's still

(11:16):
as funny as ever. Don't sleep on super Bad? Have
you seen super Bad? Super Bad? Phenomenal? Wow, I'm actually
surprised you've seen that. Yes, after two thousand and five
Friday eleven thirty, Okay, you know what I can one
segment for you, absolutely terrible, uh ten twelve on The
mat Thommas Show with Ross seven one, three, two, one

(11:38):
two five seven honey. Seven one three two one two
five seven Honey, Paul, question today, Rossie, how often do
you lollygag? The answers are never, never I should ask
you want my answer or your answer? Never daily, a
few times a week, or only when the time is right.

(11:59):
There's always a proper time for lolligaging. I feel like
I need to do some more lolagaging in my life.
I agree. I've been trying to get you a relax
for like ten years. M I know seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seven eighty bad news from baseball yesterday.
We'll tell you about that, plus your phone calls next.
Ray in Miami wants to talk Texans football, doesn't want

(12:20):
to talk Dolphins. And we're yet we're still trying to
find the Minnesota Chicago call from last night. Seven one
three two one two five seven NINTI ten eighteen on
Sports Talking seven ninety I last time, when I got home,
I rewatched the Steve Starkesian response to that person on

(12:40):
Twitter or no, that reporter at the weekly press conference
is Steve like, was was he off his meds or something?
Because it was such a and we'll play it again
because I wanted those who didn't hear it. It was
such an odd response. Question was again, this is young
reporter who clearly didn't have the back. Kay uh, there

(13:01):
is something wrong with Do we have the autic? Can
you find it's easier if you if we played his character. Yes,
we have it somewhere. Okay, all right, I want to
you have it, Jonathan, give me a second. Okay, follow
sports RV on Instagram. Well you know what, follow sports
RV on Instagram. Look at that switch. Okay, I meant

(13:25):
put it this way. You you'll follow him. You'll look
at it for about a week, and then you'll probably
unfollow because of boredom. No, just mute, don't unfollow me,
keep the following. Okay, So again Steve starkesing every money
is a press conference huh, where he was asked about
a tweet that was out there with video of Arch
grimacing and here it is. Yes, with the.

Speaker 6 (13:46):
Question Arch many seemed to be having some throwing pains
by the affording to who Arch Arch said that to you. No,
according to who, it just looked like he was he
doesn't have any.

Speaker 1 (13:59):
Is there an explanation to why he was I look
like that.

Speaker 7 (14:02):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (14:03):
I've never filed I've never filmed any of you guys
when you're using the bathroom, so I don't know what
faces you make when you're doing that.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
So the singer did not meet the question. Okay, so
let me here's a teachable moment for those of you.
If I was teaching a sports media class, Okay, professor Thomas,
what do you got? It's you should always have a
backup question ready for a question that the coach might
think is uncomfortable. What he should have said, wasn't it

(14:34):
any What he didn't want to say was hey, some
rando on Twitter. He should have said, there's a social
media posting showing him grimacing, or you could just say
that that was from the The social media thing is
is recording the broadcast he was on TV. He could
have said from the broadcast. He didn't. He lost the

(14:57):
battle was shown with with Sarkisian. After he just said,
well it looked like it mm hmm. So just a
little one on one, have a backup if you're gonna
go not and he didn't go after him. It was
a very it was a very good question. It wasn't
the question was the issue, and just to ask if
he's got any issues. It looks like he's hurt. It's
a fair question in an open form like that, it

(15:18):
was a fair question. And he goes to, I don't
want any of you go to the bathroom. Well, there
is a way that that makes sense. I would like
to hear this if Archie messed himself on the throw. Oh,
I'm I'm not trying to be funny. I mean, okay,
maybe you know what I'm saying. Though, that's the only

(15:38):
logical explanation for what he said, right, I'll be brittally
honest with you. I did not think that of a possibility.
But you have a point. Why would he go to
that card? Yeah, that's the only way it makes sense.
That's right, that he that the reporter was thinking that
the Sarkesian I mean, why else would he say that.

(16:01):
That's That's why I'm asking you. I don't you know
the I just don't get it. I don't get that
the goofy response to what I think sark thought was
a goofy question. I mean, let's listen out. Let's get
an analogy on this. I mean, he might not have
this is out of left field, and he was just
trying to be funny and it was Yeah, clearly he's

(16:22):
got a bad sense of humor. You'd say, Matt, you
look like you've lost weight. I don't think I've lost weight.
What happened to your paint? What happened to your your eyebrows?
I mean it's the if. Then it didn't make it
any there's a disconnection. There's no correlation between the two
statements unless I don't know. Now, you got me think
about whether or not are sold himself. That's the only

(16:45):
thing that popped into my mind that made it make sense.
I'm wrong, i'me I know. And in sports history is
Paul Pierce. Yeah, see he did it, But that's one
out of thousands of sporting events. You think arts during
San Jose State, Yeah, I don't know. That's the only
way I could make the connection. I kept watching. I'm like,

(17:07):
I'm what am I missing? I don't want to connect?
To do for you, Matt, one and one, that's all
I gotta do? What oh the Longhorns? Yeah, well his
arm strength doesn't look great and mechanically it doesn't look great,
and he's like supposed to be the best quarterback prospect
of all time. He's throwing side arm inaccurate passes when
he's not under duress. I'm a little worried. Well, at

(17:30):
least you got two more years of him. Yeah, we'll see. Yeah,
he's not playing like one dash one and that's okay.
That happens. And I mean all the hype I would
say ninety percent of the hype that's put on him,
he didn't put on himself. No, his last name put
the hype exactly. So, I mean five stars. We talked
about this, The five star, five star quarterbacks all over

(17:53):
the place don't work out. The number two recruit that
year with arch Manning was Nico Yama Liava. He was
not good at Tennessee and now he's not good at UCLA. Well,
they're terrible at UCLA. Yeah, I'm unbelievably bad and be
going to watch you Kentucky before you know it. Ray
On seven ninety, Good morning, ray.

Speaker 8 (18:14):
Hey, how you doing?

Speaker 1 (18:14):
Guys?

Speaker 8 (18:15):
Good? First, about that coach. They have to watch what
they're saying because if a cheerleader say, hey he was
recording me, who do you think we're going to believe
the cheerleader or him? They have to watch what they say.
They're saying stuff as a shop job just for attention.
They have to watch what they're saying as coaches for attention.
Because of a feeding campus said he was recording her,

(18:38):
the world is going to believe that female. Now to CJ. What,
I don't think I've heard this on the station before. CJ,
schet your bum ass up. You need to be more mobile. CJ.
It ain't the offensive line, it's the quarterback play. You
need to be more mobile. You need to make that
play happen. CJ. You need to make your self a

(19:00):
leader of that team. If you got a crappy offensive line, CJ,
you need to make the best of your play and
stop worried about every other player. You're lethargic, you're coming
out lazy. It's you, DJ. If you want to be
the leader of this team, man, for the Houston Texans,
you need to be the leader. And I'm tired of
these excuses. Man, I'm tired of it. You don't look

(19:23):
like you're ready to beat Baltimore. You don't look like
you're ready to beat anybody. You're not gonna represent the
AFC in the Super Bowl. I'm sick of this.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
Ray Fire and Brimstone. I didn't realize the slander for
CJ was coming out this early. Usually takes an zero
and two star for that to happen. I mean to

(19:54):
somewhat of his point now. I was saying, it's not
the offensive line at CJ. No, but it can be both.
There are quarterbacks who have bad offensive lines, who can
still make throws, who can still be successful, who aren't
losing all these yards on sacks. He's got to be better.
We talked about this last year. It's the same thing
I was this show from last year last December. Well,

(20:19):
that's my problem, Ross is, that's the issue is. And
I brought this up a little bit on the show yesterday.
What noticeable difference have we had from this team? And look,
it is just one game, so it's not fair to
compare one versus seventeen or eighteen, but it is one
that shows that there isn't a transformation, but there isn't

(20:41):
a noticeable improvement that the same sort of man. Can
he make the throws or man I wish he had
better protection. They just were Man. I don't want to
do this. I don't want to say history repeating itself.
So I'm gonna have to I'm not gonna say it.
I think an underrated storyline from this past weekend is
that Mixon is gone. It allows them to play, as

(21:03):
we were talking about, they can play two high safeties
and then they dare you to run on them. And
if you don't have any much of a running game,
which Joe Mixon does a good job of a lot
of those runs in those big runs that Joe Mixon
may last year, or he was just making stuff happen
where they were not clear running lanes, there was not

(21:24):
good run blocking, and he's making guys miss and he's
being patient at the right time and slowing down and
accelerating and making moves, and the run is supposed to
go left, but he has the vision to know that
it's collapsing left side, so he goes to the right side.
You don't have anybody that can do that right now.
And so if they don't have to respect your run
game at all, and they're gonna sit back in too

(21:46):
high safety and so and then you're under pressure before
a pass play can develop. This is what you end
up with. What we saw on Sunday, it's everybody run
game off it'sive line, quarterback, it's everybody. So it shouldn't
be ironic that the Texans spent so much time, especially

(22:08):
in the first half, in one of the tight end
there was no deep downfield routes to go to. Right,
we'll get to more on this. Dimico is gonna talk
in ninety minutes and we will carry it for you
right here on Sports Talk seven. I'm sure he'll be
very transparent and forthcoming about everything. Do you think he'll
be snippy? Absolutely, especially if he gets asked about foot
injuries and all that stuff. Oh no, we we only

(22:31):
got We only want people here that care about the
Oh we can't have that. Well, we'll see. Okay. So
here's what we're gonna do today when we carry the Dimico.
Anytime that we think he's being snippy, we're gonna use
the sound effect. Right, Okay, you want to go with
what is it? Girl? Here? Let's record it is that

(22:52):
you ready? Oh no, let's get some Matt Thomas sound
effects it here? Oh my gosh. Okay, tell when you're ready, right, Jonathan,
three two one? Do what you do? One now? Okay?

Speaker 3 (23:11):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (23:11):
Three two one? Okay, you got two now, Jonathan, your
turn three two one. You know you can't do it? No,
Ross laughed. I'm sorry, I'll shut up. Three two one, Okay,
there is we have three sound effects. I'm trying to
find anything I have that's like punks.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
Punks.

Speaker 1 (23:36):
Now, there will be some softball questions asked by knowledge
of media there, so there won't be any of that.
We can't do that. We can't play that. We're just
playing the girls. Okay, I'm just looking for what is this?
Never mind, that's not playing computer, it's a penis. Matt

(23:57):
m hm, oh that's actually not a bad one. What
is this? No that you know what that's the sound about?
We play for stupid media questions. Okay, well not meeting
there's stupid stupid people that think they're credential media. How
about that? Is that fair? But you know, okay, don't
answer the question. We have the three girls, one from

(24:20):
each of us. And if we feel like somebody is
getting if if Dimiko's getting mad and somebody will have
to play it, just say three gowl growls make me
feel more comfortable, okay, seven one, three two one two
five seven out seven one three two one two five
seven nine zero. That's not bad, great, it's great, Matt

(24:46):
pere gonna be like they're gonna be going throughout the
office today. Wow, somebody thought a bear would be in
the woods. They hear that one. This is what it
sounded like when I had a when I came across
a bear in the in Big Bend. Huh. You're never

(25:10):
gonna have to You're never gonna get rid of those.
I just go to the Fancy Bear. He was a
Metro bear, the fancy Man, Fancy Bear. Seven one three
two one two five seven, Natties, busy day, you're on
seven naety tonight you got the Astros and the Blue Jays.

(25:31):
First pitch, I believe is it six oh seven, which
is six ten Eastern Central Time? But six o seven
Canadian love it? An. It's funny because you know I'm
mister Texas, but I'm also mister Toronto too, right, it's
he can First of all, you can't be both. You're right,
I'm not gonna be mister Canada. Are you really trying
to bring every segment to a grinding hole? But no,

(25:53):
I'm just telling ridiculous, Moniker yourself gloss. I absolutely love Toronto. Okay, good, yeah,
mister Texas it's fine. Astros do play the Blue Jays today.
The Astros, by the way, did got no favorites last night,
the Rangers one and the Mariners one. It's two game later, Rossie,
how are we feeling they're either going to be good

(26:13):
enough if they're not. That's how I'm feeling. It's been
all in front of them. They haven't taken care of
business against some lesser competition. You've got big games coming up,
so you got to take care of business in those
big series with the Mariners. You've got more with the
Rangers as well. This Toronto series is not going to
be easy. They're gonna be good enough or they're not.

(26:34):
We'll see Luis Carcia going to make you second start.
Shane Bieber will throw for the Blue Jays. Blue Jays
are eighty two and sixty one and just smack the
ball around. George Springer having a fantastic season. We'll talk
to more about that with Joe Spotta coming up in
less than two hours here on Sports Talks Everny reminder,
tell your friends, frankly, tell your enemies. Twelve thirty Joe

(26:55):
Spota on this radio show. Okay, normally Tuesdays here on
the Matt Thomics shows. That's right, we're here every day
tended to Bobby's with us on seven. I need Bobby,
good morning, Hey, good morning. How you guys doing well?
Thank you? Hey?

Speaker 8 (27:09):
Just a quick dot in the Texans.

Speaker 9 (27:11):
I mean, I know they just had a loss, and yeah,
they played a really good team. The Rams are a
great team with a great defense. Everybody's kind of freaking out.
But here's my thoughts on this. The Sections are a
really good team. They got a great defense. They'll get
mixing back in four to six weeks. They're gonna win
the division, they're gonna make the playoffs, and then we'll
see what they got. It's just gonna come down to,

(27:33):
you know, they can beat anybody in the AFC. I
believe they play the right game. So I think everybody
needs to calm down, take a breath. They're gonna be
there at the end, and then there's just gonna be hey,
can we beat the Ravens.

Speaker 8 (27:46):
Can we beat the Kansas City?

Speaker 9 (27:48):
Can we beat those guys?

Speaker 1 (27:49):
I think they.

Speaker 9 (27:50):
Can do it, But everybody just take a breath. Man,
It's one game.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
They're gonna be fine.

Speaker 9 (27:56):
I mean, I really believe that what's your thoughts on that.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
Well, first, the only thing I can say is you're right.
Overreaction is incredible after week one of a season. Frankly, Bobby,
overreaction is really going to ramp up. I don't know
when to start. That's when teams always go here that
stat about teams that start the season zero and to
make or don't make the playoffs. The only thing I'm
going to disagree with you with is your initial statement
Joe Mixon is back in four to five weeks. We

(28:19):
have no idea about that. I'm I'm hoping, well, yeah,
you you are hoping if he doesn't. To Ross's point
in the first segment of the show, I think a
Texans running game is in some severe trouble. Uh there.
There's not going to be anybody that's going to overly
respect Pierce Mark's Chubb goal. It's just it's it's gonna

(28:42):
be probably a bottom bottom five. That's not the Texans
running back room. You just ran through it. It actually is.
I'm sorry, But Bobby, the question I would have is,
and again we're not gonna overreact, but did the Texans
do enoughfting wise, framec wise to supplant the teams that

(29:04):
we were afraid of to begin with. That's the Baltimore Ravens.
That's the Kansas City Chiefs, that is the Baltimore Ravens.
That could maybe even be the Cincinni Bengals, although they
struggled against Cleveland last week, and it might be a
team like the Los Angeles Chargers. I don't know. I
don't think Denver's got enough in the in the tank
to be a legitimate AFC title contender. So again, we're

(29:25):
not gonna have this conversation today. We're gonna have it
probably in seven or eight weeks. But it just there
was just so much of the game on Sunday that
made people think, I know we're gonna do. We're gonna
win the AMC South because the South Division is not
very good. They're gonna win their ten games and they're
gonna bounce out in the first second run of the playoffs,
just like the franchise has done for a better part
of twenty years. And that's why I think people not

(29:46):
wigging out, but certainly are like, Okay, wake me up
when something new is happening.

Speaker 9 (29:52):
Right, Okay, just last thought, Okay, you just you just
make one of our good puts. Okay, so they've got
They've got what they have in sixteen games left, Okay.
I believe, like I said, they're gonna win the division
when they get to the playoffs. I believe at that
time we'll have a healthy Mixon, maybe Camberish, and that
we'll have a healthy mixing with.

Speaker 3 (30:11):
The running game.

Speaker 9 (30:13):
I think the offense is allowed to get better as young.
I believe they're gonna and every team has flaws.

Speaker 4 (30:17):
I think the Texas have enough to do it.

Speaker 9 (30:19):
It's gonna come down to can they execute in the playoffs,
and I think we'll all wait and see.

Speaker 1 (30:24):
Thank you for the phone call. I mean that's if
you're a Texans fan. You have to have that optimistic
viewpoint here. You should not be selling on your team
after one loss. By the way you play the Los
Angeles Rams, you played a team that's probably going to
win the NFC West. You're they're gonna probably make the playoffs,
and they might even be a sneaky pick for maybe
a win or two in the in the in the

(30:45):
NFC playoffs. I think the NFC is wide open. Frankly, Yeah,
it's not only that, it's not the result. It's not
only that they lost. It's just the way that it looked.
The offense just looked bogged down. They didn't look good.
They weren't able to move the chains. Like if you
go out there and you lose, Okay, obviously Bill's Ravens
is an extreme. You don't have to necessarily lose like that.
But it just there wasn't a whole lot takeaways that

(31:07):
were that were encouraging, especially losing the way that you
lost last year. They had have went out there and
scored twenty four and lost twenty seven to twenty four,
it would feel a lot better. It's just they couldn't
get only three field goals at the at the in
the first half and then zero points in the second half.
It was not entertaining. It was not encouraging.

Speaker 3 (31:31):
You.

Speaker 1 (31:32):
The most encouraging thing you can take out of it
is our defense is kind of what we thought it
were gonna be. Low score. I mean, you give up
fourteen points on the road, that's gonna win a lot
of games. It just is. But if your offense, if
Kimi Fairbairn is your TV is your deep threat, because

(31:54):
hell Nico Collins wasn't, I think people are gonna be
wigging out. Yeah, ten forty four Sports Talk seven on eight.
Feelings coming up in forty five minutes, all right, ten
to fifty one on Sports Talk seven ninety. It is
interesting every week we get these variety of betting website
emails that say, hey, here's what's going on here. Favorites
for this. Here are not favorites for this. They have

(32:15):
re calibrated the Super Bowl favorites. The Ravens are alonger
the Super Bowl favorites. They're the Buffalo Bills into the
Super Bowl favorites. It's just crazy. After one week, six
to one the Bills are to win the Super Bowl.
The Ravens are six and a half. So it's not
a dramatic change. The Eagles are seven and a half,
the Packers are eight and a half. Put things in perspective,

(32:36):
the Houston Texans are thirty three to one to win
the Super Bowl. So the Ravens were the favorite. Ravens
were the favorite after before the season started. Oak one change.
So you said I was all over the Ravens, Jock,
when I picked them and they were the betting favorite. Well,
I'm just saying when you jump on it, When Ross
Sump jumps on somebody's jock. Bad things happen. Excuse me? Uh,

(32:58):
what else we got here? AFC Conference champion if that's
actually redundant? AFC champion Texans are sixteen to one that
they are seventh among the sixteen teams. Sixteen to one
you win the AFC. I was gonna say it to
win the super Bowl. That sounds ridiculous. No, AFC. Here

(33:18):
are the teams that Vegas believes is a better chance
of making the super Bowl now that they're right, but
it is a it's a it's a number out there. Buffalo, Baltimore,
Kansas City, the Chargers, Denver, and Cincinnati are all considered
better odds to win the AFC over your Houston Texans. Oh,
I'm not really gonna didn't all those teams win Week one,

(33:41):
and that could be part that's not a part of it,
that's all of it. From the Chiefs lost, that's right,
but yeah, but they wont. They played a very close
game with the Chargers, and I don't you know, Look,
thank you Travis Kelcey for being human. I appreciate you
catching touchdown passing me in Brazil. Yes, I don't think
he's gonna have a great season. For it. I don't
think so either, certainly not when Rashid Rice comes back. Yeah. Uh,

(34:05):
that's the That is the early narrative that I think
that I would say not every Texan fan has, but
a lot of it is Okay, we're we're kind of
used to this. I think a lot of people's is
just saying, yeah, same bleep, different day, And I want
to I want to disagree with that, But how could
you have to put it this way? If they play

(34:26):
Tampa Monday and win Monday night and play and win
thirty four twenty four, Bay's gonna feel better. Everybody feel better.
It's it's it's it's a week to week thing. It
happens with your college teams, it happens with your pro teams.
You know, baseball, the Astros could win three in a
row and then lose two in a row, and then
all of a sudden, the baseball seems this year a

(34:47):
grumpier bunch than normal. Astros fans are out of hand,
spoiled this year. It's ridiculous. Yeah, you would think if
you had to have just scanned everyone talking about the
team and where they are, you would think they would
be where the A's are blow it up. Fire Joe,
fire coaches. Wasn't it last week? We had a call,

(35:10):
fire the manager, fire the general manager, fire everyone, blow
the team up. They're in first place, spoiled, and of
course fire the hitting coaches and the pitching coach. I mean, honestly,
for me, I'd rather be spoiled. I can live with
trying to calm the waters down as compared to apathy. Yeah,

(35:33):
imagine imagine how much Royals talk is going on in
Kansas City right now. Not a whole lot. Yeah, and
we've lived through that for sure. In a way, it
beats the alternative. But in a way, it's also just
more frustration. A lot of frustration with the fan base.
Spoiled fan bases is worse than no frustration. But I
get it, especially because we're in a sports business man.

(35:54):
We like ears and the answers. I mean, I don't
know what's Hatriot fan been doing the last half dozen years,
not a half dozen years. Oh, they've been complaining half
does let me sick? I would say football? Hmm, Like Boston,
Even if the Patriots go four and in thirteen three

(36:16):
years in a row, Patriots fans still going to be
loud and whiny and invested in the team more than
here in Houston. I'm just I mean, it is what
it is. There's more sports passion in that town than here.
But I mean, I wonder if Braves fans of the
nineteen nineties got tired of them and there was appathy
for sure, was because I remember going to cover a
couple of Astros playoff series against Atlanta in the city

(36:36):
was empty. Now grand they were also playing at one
o'clock in the afternoon, which doesn't Yeah. No, We've seen
the crowds here, the Wildcat crowds and and the Alds
crowds because everybody's a lot of it's everybody's like, wow,
these prices are insane. I'm going to save my money
for the CS or the series, right. I think a
lot of people did that last year, in fact, because

(36:57):
look as good as Detroit was in Tarcsicool obviously was fantastic,
Detroit was on a household name, and you thought, well,
your home, it's the Tigers, their first playoff appearance in forever.
It should be I'm gonna save my money for the
division series. And I think I can very well be
the case again this year. We shall see they got
to get there first. Only two games up at the moment,

(37:18):
eighty seven percent playoff odds. You know what that's that
gives me still pause for optimism. That means that even
if the Astros don't win the division, they're still gonna
let until unless they go in a free fall. And look,
let me tell you something, gang, your squad has been
playing about four to seventy baseball for about two months
right her to basically, and you're still holding on to

(37:38):
a first place and you've got the the the wild
card is a default. Now you can't play three seventy
baseball and expect the default to come into play. But
if you're you know, if you if you got your
head about water and you're winning just enough, it does help.
The Rangers have been well, they were mid for a
while and now they're playing better, and it certainly helps
that the Astros have a seattle in their division. Starting

(38:02):
rotation against Toronto Garcia, Alexander Javier. How we feeling concerned
against Brios, Bieber and Gussman, Yeah, concern, But remember this

(38:23):
Astro team, somehow someway plays exemplary baseball against the first
place teams. Now, Shane Bieber and Jose Berrios have not
been as good as they've been in the past. So
that's is Bieber been hurt this year. He's only got
a two to one right yet. Yes, And and Kevin
gouson'sn't good, but he hasn't been. He hasn't been a lot.
He hasn't been, you know, cy Young Gousman ten fifty

(38:43):
eight Sports Talk seven On the hour of the Books,
we got three left to go. Still ahead of the
next half hour, you will have got feelings and in
one hour from now we'll hear from Demico Ryans plus
Joe Spoted twelve three. You're here from both to of
the leaders of the sports franchise in this town. In
one hour you can get on the show in the marketplace.
Give you that you damn skippy seven one three five
seven Natty is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross. So

(39:13):
this lolligagging quote has made more rounds around the NFL
scircles than when we originally played it on Sunday after
the Rams loss of the Rams victory over the Texans.
So I've got a question out there if you'd like
to give us a response. Uh, it's at Sports mt
the official Twitter account of the Matt Thomas the only
one that you should follow. How much do you lolligag?

(39:35):
It's never daily, a few times a week, and only
when the time is right. Daily. We've got got a
lot of lolligaggers listening to the show. Forty six percent
of you lolligag daily. We appreciate you lolligagging with us.
Tend to twenty six percent only when the time is right,
twenty three percent a few times a week. Five percent
of you never lolligag. Wow, I'd like to talk you

(39:55):
get out more. I'd like to meet that five percent.
What's your response, man? How often do you lolligag? A
few times a week? I'm a daily lully geger? That
comes to zero. Surprise. Texans have a weird week because
they have the Monday night game, so they will get
the extra day off this week to clear their heads.

(40:17):
I like, this is that what it is?

Speaker 3 (40:19):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (40:19):
Get away from the sport, get away from it all,
and then they here's the thing. I don't think the
NFL does them any favors. Not that this is a
huge deal, but you know, I'm a little bit on
the travel logistics side of it. They have the Monday
night game, which is a big benefit. Having the Monday
night home game is a big deal. There's this an
extra energy and extra buzz and the crowd, especially with

(40:39):
the home opener. Then they have to play. I think
they go to Jacksonville next week the follow week after that,
so it's a short week, and then you have to
go on the road, not to do a lot of
things on Saturday, and not that Jacksonville's the longest flight
in the world. I don't know. I just my guess
is if I was in charge of scheduling for any sport,

(41:00):
would be like, man, leave me alone, know the best
I can. Yeah, I guess, But it is fine. They're
gonna make it. They will make it. Hell, we had
teams that were traveling here middle of the night, coming
in here and beating the Astros after I guaranteed last
the Colors are going to beat the Rangers. That's right.
You said it was a must win game, need to

(41:21):
have a game. Didn't get it. They did not win. No,
they did not. They're still in first place. It's all good.
They got they got games in from they can win.
By the way, I already have a song locked and
loaded for tomorrow's open when the Astros beat the Toronto
Blue Jays. Okay, it's a yacht rock classic and we'll
be playing it tomorrow, hopefully at ten o'clock on the show. God,

(41:43):
what do you mean? Good? God? That's fine. I mean,
I guess it is. It's the It's very on brand,
so we got to stay on brand. Okay, you know what. Nope, nope,
stay on brand. It's fine. We can Kendrick Lamar if
you want. No, Well, that would be disrespectful because Drake's
from Toronto. Oh, that'd be even better. Don't you think
you want to play Kendrick Lamar's song?

Speaker 3 (42:03):
True?

Speaker 1 (42:03):
Actually, okay, play not like us? You played disc track?
Does are there any songs that Kendrick doesn't violently swear
during the song? There's tons? Okay, So you know what
we'll do tomorrow I will make I will pivot and
today don't have to. I mean, everything we have is
played on the beat to diss Drake. Okay, that makes sense.
We will play Kendrick Lamar song that has I mean,

(42:27):
do you want one of the disc songs? There was
like five of them. No, I mean, I trust your choice.
I don't necessarily do that and it's fine, all right
seven one three two one two five seven Anti Vikings
beat the Bears last night twenty seven to twenty four.
Maybe winning on the road isn't that difficult after all,
San Francisco won at Seattle one of the Jets yesterday

(42:49):
on Sunday. Uh, since any one at Cleveland other Cleveland sucks?
Who else? So one on the road over the weekend,
Tampa Bay one in Atlanta. About Tampa Bay opening up
the year, going to play two road games start this season,
Imagine how good they be feeling if they beat the
Texans on Raiders one in New England. Yeah, you know
what I mean, It happens, It can happen. You know,

(43:13):
it's so funny when you hear coaches say, you know,
it's very difficult to win in said sport, when it
really isn't that difficult, Because when you play a game,
one side has to win it. Yes, that's true. But
the best and brightest minds on the planet win more
than the others, win more than they lose. So then

(43:34):
you got to fight against them. You got to be
better or as good as the the Andy Reid's or
the Okay, I know it wasn't a great week for
John Harball, but he's got a very great track record there.
And whoever else the best coaches in football get. They
gave us a forty one forty week one Sunday night
crazy game, insane, And everybody's upset at John because they

(43:58):
keep putting all these stats up. John Harry the most
double digit leads lost since whatever. Well, they've also had
more double digit leads than everybody, just about everybody else.
I saw some other stat that contextualize that. It's like, yeah,
they've lost a lot of big leads, but they get
a lot of big leads. You're talking about Buffalo Baltimore.
Do you know again, one of those two super elite quarterbacks,

(44:23):
they're not just elite ROSSI, there are franchise Hall of
Fame VP candidates. One of those two guys isn't going
to the super Bowl. Again. It's hard to win in
the league game, it's hard To've been telling you it's
hard to win in the NFL. It's hard to win.
And we haven't even mentioned Burrow or Mahomes. Well, Burrow's

(44:47):
gone at least, yeah he's gone, and and pretty soon
you're gonna be hearing about how Justin Herbert just is
a good quarterback that just can't take his sha get
it done. Yeah, it's it's like, you know what, Look,
first of all, these guys are making fifty six million
dollars a year, so I'm not gonna be crying for
They don't have to cry for him. But it's a

(45:08):
pretty hard tag to live with. Lamar Jackson, Josh Josh Allen,
one of those two cats ain't going to the super
Bowl yet again. H whose image hurt is hurt more?
I think it's Lamar Jackson's Franklin I would, well, he's
the multiple MVP. Yeah, and they had They've had the
Ravens that had better, more complete teams. But I mean

(45:29):
people always talk about uh uh Josh Allen not having receivers.
It's like, who does Lamar Jackson have? Say Flowers? Good, Hey,
Zay Flowers ROSSI was great. Was he on your fantasy team? Yes? Seven,
I think is what he had. We're we're all proud
of the Toros. We the Toro that's right. I do

(45:53):
think tour. I do think Zay Flowers is a little
bit too quickly dismissed by the fantasy community. But that's
another discussion for another time. He's good, but he's not great.
I mean, Keon Coleman had a big day. Khalil Shakir
is there, doln Kincaid. I'm not saying neither of them
have weapons, but I think a lot of it. Of course,
especially the last two years now is Derrick Henry. Neither
of them have a Dereck Henry who I mean. By

(46:15):
the way, though, one of the reasons that Dereck Henry
is so successful is because the run threat that Lamar
Jackson is. He was like at six yards of carry
last year. He did not have that his last three
years in Tennessee. He was around like four four and
a half yards per carry. Then you get with somebody
that is the run threat that Lamar Jackson is, and
that helps open up the run lanes. So's they work
in tandem. So you're telling me having a great running

(46:36):
back or a great quarterback helps the other skill position. Yeah,
that's what C. J. Stroud's like, Man, can you give
me some help? Can you give me Dereck Henry? Let
me ask you this. Well, we don't know exactly when
Mixon suffered his injury because they're keeping that super incognito right,
I saw something super unconfirmed on Twitter. He was saying

(47:00):
botched surgery. Have you heard that? Or am I did
that come out when I was on that's just a Twitter?
Or yeah, and again we got to take that. Now,
that could certainly be the case, what makes sense. But
my point is this, when did he have the surgery?
Would you have it in the summertime? If you had something? Again,
this is where the problem is, or the whole we're having.

(47:24):
We're we're we're having we're having to guess mm hmm.
So instead of seeing a perhaps erroneous Internet report, it
could have been just as easy for Nick as Ceio
and and Joe Mixon and or Demik or any of
those three guys say here's what happened. And they're not
going to now let me ask you this. Are they

(47:45):
Are they not saying here's what happened because they're embarrassed
or they just want to keep it super private, because again,
if when you keep it super private, then you have
jimokes like us guessing on the situation. If you just
come out and say he had surgery, we expect him
in six weeks, then the questions would stop. Instead, you
get asked about it at every press conference because it's

(48:06):
all upset about it. And let me give you a
counterpoint to what he said. Okay, and this is exactly
what they said when when they had the press conference,
they said, well, if we tell you six weeks and
it comes back in seven or eight, are you gonna
call us out on that? The answer is not, really.

Speaker 9 (48:18):
No.

Speaker 1 (48:19):
People have setbacks every time. Look at the astros life
over here. Yeah, and that's what they're afraid of. They're
afraid of saying, well, you you told us this, nobody's
gonna nobody's gonna get out pitchforks when you say in
generally you give a range anyways, you say six to eight,
eight to ten. Yeah, but they evaluated in two months.
But saying nothing that makes us figure out, well, did

(48:40):
something nefarious happen? And then, by the way, and whatever
injury he's had somebody's head before, unless he's the first
person in human history to have whatever exact injury he has,
so you have a a timeline or an idea of
how long it's gonna take. Yeah, but my question, here's

(49:01):
my question too. All that is, if this happened early
early on, did the Texans not address the running back
situation the way they should have. That's what makes me think,
actually that he's not going to be gone that long.
I hope you're right. Bigsby just got traded to the
Eagles for a fifth and six. I would have liked
Tank Bigsby here, third round pick in twenty twenty three,
rushed for seven hundred and sixty sixty yards last year.

(49:23):
I think he's a good especially in the open field runner.
Maybe I don't know. Look, I haven't been breaking down
Tank Bigsby tape, but he seems better than a lot
of the options you have here and now, fifth and
six is kind of steep, especially with the Eagles for
a backup running back. But still, look, lossop, there's any
NFL team in the in the league that can give
away low round draft picks. It's the collector. It's the

(49:45):
draft collector. That's what I'm saying. I like tanks bigs
Tank Bigsby. You can say it easily too. Yeah, it's
fun to say, here comes Tank Begsby down. Let me
take some Let me tell you what tank bings. What
is it? Tank tank Begsby Bigsby. He's not a five
seven white guys. Okay, there's no chance he's not hiding.
Wey one hundred and fourteen pounds. Tank Bigsby is a

(50:07):
man's man exactly. I would like yeah, five eleven, two fifteen.
Oh my god, he wants to beat your ass. He
runs hard and it is quite a thriller as well.
Oh yeah, but he could tag maybe he wants some
tag baby baby tanks, barbecue, Yeah, tanks, Barbara, don't you
don't want to see him in here in town Dale Brinson.

(50:30):
That's probably way we're gonna check. I want do you know,
I wonder if Carrie is carry McNair's ever gone to Delicious. Well,
that's a good question. Do we need some intel on this? Well,
you know what, it's been very hard to get a
hold of Dale and probably I don't know if he's
been arrested or what. I don't know, but I bet
car I wonder if Cal goes to Dale over Delicious

(50:54):
and he like spills you know, spills the bean, so
to speak, like, man, I hate my brother, and we
could try to get the tea. Well we go working on.
I wonder if Cal likes Carrie, but Hannah hates Carry
so much that he's like Cal's like I can't talk
to you. Call my burner phone. I want to see

(51:14):
no statement from the Texans on this, and there will
not be one. There will be zero. You will not
hear Mark Vannerver first attend from the Texans nineteen with
nineteen with eleven thirty left to go in the quarter.
By the way, Carry McNair not with us tonight. He
is arguing with his with my boss and brother. No,
I don't think Texans, TV, Texans Radio, Texans, Militia, whatever,

(51:36):
rock and roll. The Texans got a temporary injunction on
Kerry McNair on a creak crab, bad time, Nico Collins
for nineteen yards. And by the way, do you know
the andre that uh Janice loves me more than he
loves my other brother Carrie her day. That's not bad,

(51:58):
fancy bear Matt? Wait, why why is I the only
one being played? Because not the best? I only know
that's pretty great. I was waiting for the right claw,
all right. Remember anytime you think that Dimico's getting tested,
it's editorial for you. We're gonna play it during the
twelve o'clock press cap. That's a new bit in the house.

(52:19):
When does Dimiko get grumpy during Texans press conferences seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven Honey, gut feelings coming
up in fifteen minutes here on Sports Talk seven ninety
eleven nineteen. On the Sports Talk seven ninety this is

(52:40):
Matt Thomas should Ross. I got a question for you.
We got gut feelings coming up in about ten minutes.
So this is a little bit off the beaten track. Okay, Uh,
my wife and I watched it today show as I
get ready for work and had breakfast and whatever. That's beautiful,
thank you. In the San Francisco Seattle game, Seattle police

(53:03):
have been concerned about fan violence. Explain, what are these
crazies in this in the Great Northwest getting up to you?
You know how you see those people fighting in stands. Yes,
Seattle's trying to get a little more proactive about it. Okay.
They took undercover Seattle police officers hmmm. Yeah, they've been

(53:24):
doing this in Philly for years and put them in
San Francisco gear. Okay, all right now, the San Francisco
fan is not inciting anything. Mm hmm. They're just those
watching the game. I wonder do they cheer even because
a lot of times what gets it starts things is
like when something good happens and then they cheer, you

(53:45):
cheer loud for the team, and then that's when you
start drawing the iron. People start getting upset. So I
wonder if I wonder how they're conducting themselves. Obviously, I
don't think they're picking fights out there. Yes, I mean
that would be the bigger story, that would be the
biggest story of today. So again, they're not going to say,

(54:06):
let's see how far we can test somebody. Yeah, right,
but I would assume I wonder if there's any cheering
at all, Just curious. I'm sticking out loud. I can't
imagine if something good happened for the forty nine ers,
you're just gonna sit there and go in your face. No,
I'm saying or doing nothing at all?

Speaker 3 (54:22):
Do it?

Speaker 1 (54:22):
Yeah, exactly, So I don't know, Wait, cheer a little bit.
So I was thinking about this is are you trying
to antagonize? And I would probably not. I would say
the answer is no, Yeah, a cop would never look
for a fight. But it is it is kind of shifty, right, Uh.
I've heard about that, We've heard about that in Philly

(54:43):
and other places as well. I think like they. I
think that in Philly the cops are getting assaulted, So
what happened in Seattle? There'd be all right? Or is
there are some fights there, some arrest that I don't know.
They're just saying that this was a story that that
they were talking about other cities doing this to kind
of try to I've heard of this before, not necessarily

(55:04):
point out, but just give off the How would you say,
You're not trying to, you're not looking for it, but
you just want to see what a group of people
would do in various parts of stadium. An experiment, I guess, well,
it is an experiment. I mean, I had never heard
of it until I had seen story in the show.
I didn't know that they're getting so rowdy in Seattle. Oh,

(55:28):
I think it's every city it was Seahawks. Come on, man,
what do you think they're just gonna go to the
game and drink coffee and enjoy the game.

Speaker 10 (55:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (55:37):
Yeah, they're hitting somebody with some red hots the Starbucks
in the face. They've got Nirvana in their airpiece, yes,
of course, in their airbuds. You don't stereotype on the
show circumstance. I mean, that's goods you publicize it as well.
Of course. The only thing I'm thinking of is what

(55:57):
are you really trying to do? Is this all the
sudden I'm gonna curtail fans that want to if they're
gonna throw hands, it's it's largely alcohol infused. Yeah, and
I think if you were to take five because this way,
how many tickets are is the city of Seattle buying
how many Seahawks tickets are?

Speaker 3 (56:14):
This?

Speaker 1 (56:14):
Are the Seahawks giving the police department where they can
frankly sell those tickets. I mean, if you did this
with six people in a seventy five thousand seat stadium,
are you really curving the durret down the potential violence?
That's all? That's one of that I was thinking is
that is is the are the crowds too big that
you're really this little this little hiding is is doing

(56:36):
a lot of uh you know, so you saw this, Okay, yeah,
I saw a story from Philly, Philly doing that, Philly
cops doing that in uh as Saints fans. This is
in twenty fourteen. And you said, who did the Seahawks
play San Francisco? They did this as a maybe at
Seahawks and Niners. They said, it's six Seahawks and Niners.

(56:57):
They did this in twenty thirteen as well, so they
had to do it. They did it. They're doing it
once every decade. Lay to the Seattle cops in San
Francisco gear in twenty thirteen. Yeah, and then yeah, I
see the Philly I'm just trying to look at Yeah,
I'd heard of this before. Like, for instance, there is
no Buccaneer fan that's going to be in the stadium
this month and it's going to cause any grief. Now,
I've got one friend of my entire life who's a

(57:18):
Buccaneers fan. Maybe listening now, Dice, shout out to you.
He's been He's been a Bucks fan before the Bucks
even were in a team. He was rooting for Tampa
Bay in nineteen seventy three.

Speaker 3 (57:28):
Team.

Speaker 1 (57:29):
Oh wow, But I mean I can't, like I could
see rivalry games. You may want to do that. I'd
be worried for these cops health and well being. You
can get hit with the you get hit with a
full beer can or something. Well, my guess is they're
also probably packing heat, and you know what they're gonna

(57:51):
turn around and shoot the can out of the air.
Did you tell it me?

Speaker 11 (57:55):
Yeah? I did.

Speaker 1 (57:56):
What do you gonna do about it? My name is
Sergeant Miller from the THAT'PD. Bye, you can't arrest one
of us. We thought you were a Nunners fan. Yeah. Well,
it's almost like it's like an undercover prostitution, right basically
think about it. You see a San Francisco fan, it's no,

(58:19):
I think you're solicit prostitute. You're coursing uh, confrontation. Maybe
you're coursing that is with the prostitution. You're a good
looking saying it's entrapment, that's too strong. But I don't
think it's entrapment. You're just sitting there watching the game. Now,
if you're like poking people in the chest and then
cheering a loud boorishly, yeah, I want like a hooligan

(58:42):
because I wonder if you give him like a free pass. Hey,
you don't want to fight me?

Speaker 8 (58:45):
Why?

Speaker 1 (58:45):
Because I'm a police officer? Okay, thank you God. I
turn around, my guess, and how many cops are there?
That's what I'm saying. This does the six cops? Do
six cops figure it to solve seventy so do you
put it in the news. It's more about pr I correct,
you put it in the news. You let everybody know. Hey,
there's San Francisco forty nine er fans dresses cops. That's right.
Everybody conduct yourself like adults. Isn't it funny that we

(59:07):
still have to do this in twenty twenty five. Well,
here's what I don't understand. You can't behave yourself in
an event that's not cheap. Nobody's going to a football
game cheaply anymore. No, you're not. Hell no, I mean
there really not in Seattle either. There are some bargains
to be found in city, you know, like baseball and basketball,
but there's no bargains in football, not as much. Well

(59:32):
it's the end of the season, Texans. Maybe that's what
they give away tickets. Let's talk to Jamal on seven
ninety before we get to gut feelings.

Speaker 12 (59:37):
Hello, Jamal, Hey, Hey, how's it going on to you guys?
Wonderful beautiful mornings this morning? Before I get in, I
was calling in on my ticket and take. But why
I get into that?

Speaker 11 (59:48):
Yeah, I was talking about the you know, the movies earlier,
the comedies and all that I'll share this start with
you guys. Two movies that I saw on the first
time that had like barely laughing, you know that last
where you're like crying and you can't breathe.

Speaker 1 (01:00:04):
I remember as a kid going.

Speaker 11 (01:00:07):
To see Happy Gilmore. The first time I ever saw
Happy gil More. I was like, this has gotta be
the funniest. Like the first forty five fifty minutes of
this movie, I couldn't. I was like in the theater
just laughing. I like, at lol, I'll loud laughing. And
then two the first time I've ever I'm not ranking
the funniest movies ever. I'm just saying how they made

(01:00:29):
me feel. First watch and then first watch co classic
scary movie the first one, the first scary movie is
ub hilarious. I remember going to the Pencil Town as
a kid seeing that and I was like this, these
these guys are these guys are silly. But AnyWho on

(01:00:51):
my tax and take for the weekend, I'm gonna just
say this, and you know y'all get chime in on it.
I'm coming after saying that game, I'm coming in with
a very short lease with the Texans. After it really
looked like more of last season, them not being able
to get in the end zone, going from twenty to

(01:01:12):
twenty and yeah, my my, my lease is real short.
So I'm gonna give them the first month and if
it looked like we're going on to a ten and six,
nine and seven or whatever type of season and it's
got I think the division is gonna be more of
a challenge this year. I think if they don't snap
out of it or show us something, they can wind

(01:01:33):
up and be going two on Monday night. They could
be one and three in the first month and think,
you know, people really hit the panic bunnet. But I'm
not gonna let them, you know, drag my emotions this season.
And if I see more of the same, I'm kind
of gonna disconnect a little bit. And I get you guys,
take on that.

Speaker 1 (01:01:51):
Thank you for the phone call. Let's answer that question
coming back. I don't know if people can disconnect from
professional football. We'll discuss more that in a minute seven
one three, two, one two five seven. Now could this
city do least?

Speaker 10 (01:02:08):
I know?

Speaker 1 (01:02:08):
I know answer coming up next. Gut feelings as well,
set one three two, one two five seven, Lift it
up and so Peter wasn't that touman. You know they
got a gut dealer. This is their gut feeling on
the Matt Thomas Show. All right, let's answer the question
first that we had from our previous caller. Can Houston

(01:02:29):
Texans Texas check out on the Texans? Yes? He Chicago
Bears fan checked out on the Bears over all these
years of utility. No, but that's they're the one off.
Most fans in twenty twenty five can check out of
their team. Colts fans check out of the Colts, Cardinal fans,

(01:02:51):
Dolphin fans, Dolphin fans. Man, if they lose in a
game this week, they may they may check out on
the Dolphins after two weeks. There's very few teams in
sports that can survive extended futility. So that last caller, well,
I wouldn't check out after zho to two.

Speaker 11 (01:03:12):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:03:12):
If they're three and seven, yeah, I could see it.
But the Texans are not going to go three and seven.
The division won't allow it. They just won't. I'm just okay,
and it's a week to week, but my confidence level
is not high. I'm feeling like an idiot for having
them win eleven games with Joe Mixon hurt, Joe Mixon
is missed. That's why I couldn't be a fan. It's

(01:03:34):
CL's a It's a cathartic situation for me, because if
I was a fan, I would be losing my mind.
I hated my offensive line and it didn't get any better.
I'm loving my quarterback because I want to tell my
buddies who have CJ as a twelveth of thirteenth rank

(01:03:56):
quarterback in the NFL, they're wrong. And he acted like
a twelve of the thirteenth rank quarterback.

Speaker 9 (01:04:04):
There was.

Speaker 1 (01:04:05):
That's the most difficult part of this all is that
it wasn't a new storyline. You're like, you know what
you're doing wrong. You're rewatching the same show on TV
looking for a different ending, and you know the Seinfeld
ending was horrible and it was a disagree Well, you're
in the minority, I know. I think it's part of
your charm in many things.

Speaker 3 (01:04:26):
I know.

Speaker 1 (01:04:26):
Yeah, Well, you keep watching the Seinfeld our final episode,
hoping it's gonna be great, and it just wasn't. I
keep hoping the last two seasons of House of Cars
are gonna better than it was, and it sucked. I
can't speak to that Game of Thrones last season Bulow
blue hard. All right, so there you go, so yeah,

(01:04:48):
checking out, it's they'll make that face, johnmen LUs, How
do we do last week? Okay? Sorry? By the way,
did you have the two weeks ago ones? You wrote
them down? Col Matt? Yeah, I mean it's not a
big deal whatever. Last week, Matt Thomas said, touchdown, Christian Kirk,
he did not play. Yeah, that was a loss. You

(01:05:09):
had the Texans winning nineteen to sixteen. That wasn't terrible.
I wasn't off too far off. You had the Astros
winning the series versus the Yankees that was not. Well,
can we stop now? I think we're good. And you
had them three and three in their next six I
want to say they went two and four. I think
you're right about that.

Speaker 13 (01:05:26):
And two weeks ago to Matt, I don't know if
you count this as a cash in, but you said
if Texans like, in order for them to win, cej
has to throw two hundred and fifty yards, So I
don't know if that's like you got.

Speaker 1 (01:05:36):
It right, because he didn't. I think so I'll give
I'll give myself a panel back on that one. Thank you.
Good job, Matt. I said the Astros will win the
Yankee Series. Whoops, Nope. I said the Texans will win
twenty three to twenty No, woops. I said Dalton Schultz
would get a touchdown. Nope, whoops. You had to be

(01:05:56):
feeling pretty good about Dalton Schultz after all those catches
made in the first Yeah, he went over his two
and a half prop. I'm just saying, was that one
of your picks? Yes, that's why you gotta follow you.
I liked it. I really like that side Matt. I didn't. Oh,
I wrote, Oh, Frankie was here, Jonathan was out. Frankie
said five touchdowns for the Longhorns. That's a win. Uh?

(01:06:21):
Did he get five?

Speaker 3 (01:06:22):
Wait?

Speaker 1 (01:06:23):
By the way, Frankie's coming after your job? Dude, I
gotta I can't hide that anymore. How are you saying
that he's my guy? What makes you say that? I'm
just kidding. Gosh, as you leave Jonathan alone, I'm sorry, Jonathan,
you have to deal with this person every week. Very
rude man o way on a non uh, non gut
feeling moment, How did you like the scoreboard crawl on

(01:06:44):
CBS over the weekend? Upper left hand corner and Fox
didn't even put the end of the scores up anymore,
which is really everybody's going more minimal as more minimalist,
because if you want to score, you just put it.
You can just check your phone. You don't, you don't
need a TV broadcast. Yeah, all right, I didn't have
an issue with it, Okay, anything else? Uh yeah yeah,

(01:07:06):
Arch Manning had five touchdowns by himself. I was just
confirming it was five, yep. And that's it, all right,
gut feelings. This week you went over four, I went
over three. We're combined over seven. A gut feelings. Last night,
I did have the Texans opening the yar at three
and one. I kind of have to stay with that,
don't I? Or am I allowed to change? You can change,
I can change, you can change the whole world can

(01:07:28):
change Texans. It's got feelings, Matt. Just just just let
your heart sing whatever's in your gut, just say it.
You sure, Yes, here I go three two one. Texans
win twenty three sixteen over the Bucks on Monday night
and I got No One for you twenty three sixteen.

(01:07:48):
Nico Collins finds the end zone. I like that, okay,
I mean even why let me change my score. We'll
a little high good. Uh thirty twenty three thirty This
Houston Texans all no matter how many pick sixes do
they get one, you got them throw away getting scored thirty. Well,

(01:08:10):
they're gonna have to cause because Baker Mayfield can score
points exactly, They're gonna they're gonna have to get into
a shootout. They're gonna have to figure out a way.
Thirty to twenty three Texans win. Mecca Muka looking pretty good.
Mike Evans tough to cover. Mike Evans, you can't. Mike
Evans is like the Derrick Henry receivers. He don't slow down.
It's terrible. All right, Fine, what's your gonna tell you?

(01:08:35):
Go ahead? I don't want to say, say say loud,
say it proud, Go all right, MTSA S get the
Texans for a minute. Fraud you know you're not even
battle round. Astros win this series versus. I'm sorry, How
am I supposed to have super high confidence in the
Texans after that of what I just saw on Sunday?

(01:08:57):
How am I supposed to They kicked three field goals
in the first half and then score in the second.
They got worse. We will have Texans overreaction if they
lose next Yeah, I'm not gonna be here, but you
gotta do it next Tuesday.

Speaker 3 (01:09:09):
Right.

Speaker 1 (01:09:09):
If they lose, you're not gonna be here. No, I'm
skipping the Texans for now. Okay, continue, I'll let things
marinate for a second. I need to give you some astros,
don't I I got them winning the series against Toronto.
What's up? Four and two? Road trip rest of the Way?
Four and two? I said it right now. Three and
in Toronto, three, in Lanta, four and two. Let's go.

(01:09:35):
I'm trying to see. I'm trying to say something positive
about Jake Myers. There's three hits in a series too many,
I mean too few. Four hits, that's fine, that's fine.
Four hits in the Toronto series. What's up? I'll let
you boy. Texans beat Colorado by seven boom oh excuse me.

(01:09:55):
Houston Cougar's guy said that'd be crazy. I would hope
they beat him by more. Shut off, really, Spider, I
was so proud of myself too. Houston Cougar's beat Colorado
by seven tickets, seven to and three. Gokug's what's the
line on that? One, uh six, Okay, so they will,
I will give it a cougar cover, Cougar's cover, Cougar's cover. Okay,

(01:10:18):
well she got just say it. So before you know what,
Jonathan to say what you got to say, because he's
a scaredy cat over here, isn't ready to tell you
that's not very good right now.

Speaker 13 (01:10:31):
I don't think the Houston wins their first three games
Texans Texans own three. I think they'll go oh and
three big, maybe you know, maybe they switch up things
out there and three. But these first three games, they're
just looking like it's not gonna be We're not gonnaenness around.
Especially the quarterback is talking about lolligagging.

Speaker 1 (01:10:48):
And a lot of loliagon. I mean, what what is
that all about? You know what oligagon means. I know
what it means, but I understand. I also don't think,
like was that actually happening? I mean, who was not
taking the Texans serially seriously all right, saying you don't

(01:11:21):
get a phone calls? Sad Texans lose twenty three two nineteen.

(01:11:42):
I'm sorry. You know you look like you feel like
a dirty hord an't you. I'll be more optimist I
have to be honest with you people. This is a
it's a blessing and a curse. A lot of times
my optimism goes up at the end of the week,
though Sunday not feeling good, Monday, Tuesday not feeling good.
Maybe by Friday I'll be feeling better. But I have

(01:12:03):
to be honest with where I'm feeling my gut. That's
what gut feelings are all about. All of you online,
we'll get to you next eleven forty three on Sports
Talk seven ninety. All right, go get these gut feelings
in because Tomko is going to be talking in about
ten minutes plus Ross. We're going to debut our sound effects.
If Di Miko's grumpy with any member of the media, Now,
if we hear, if we hear a super softball question,

(01:12:25):
are we gonna have a we have a sound effect
for that too. No, No, you growling some more about
that dumbass mediaqual We'll get some of them, We'll get
them all mixed in. Let's go to the phone. Breath, Matt,
take any breath. I'm fine, Terry and Cyprus. What's in
your gut?

Speaker 8 (01:12:40):
Terry?

Speaker 14 (01:12:42):
Heay, Matt Lucas, Terry, but look, man, you know number
one our main issue, and I knew this coming into
the season, was we keep hiring these ocs with no experience.
I don't know if Domko is leaning on Gar at
QBX for some information about bringing in a season offensive coordinator.

Speaker 5 (01:13:01):
That's number one.

Speaker 15 (01:13:02):
That's how we issue.

Speaker 14 (01:13:03):
We need a season veteran offensive coordinator that knows the
right lineman to put on that line to protect our
franchise quarterback, which has been a failure since Domiko's been
in here. And so until they get that corrected, we
gonna get the same old, same old in offense. And
then not only that, this defense is built already to

(01:13:27):
get us to the super Bowl, but will they carry
us teams like Baltimore, a Buffalo, Kansas City, a Denver
team that detections are gonna need to be to get
to that next level. No, they haven't built an offensive team.
The Ravens and the Bill showed us that Sunday night.
This team is not even ready to compete against Baltimore,

(01:13:49):
who's been the kryptonite since I don't know when how long.
Until they get that offensive coordinator position corrected, we gonna
get getting what we get, which is the he sins
is gonna do their job, but how long can that
hold up with what they're doing out there with the
inexperienced offensive coordinator with no experience. I mean, this is

(01:14:10):
the second guy in the world we then brought in here.
I on paper thought that this guy, these guys was
gonna come in here and then another he got that
New England connection, until the Texans cut that New England
connection off. You know, this team is not gonna move
forward with and then not only that, the team that's
coming here Monday night.

Speaker 8 (01:14:30):
It took kank Dell the last.

Speaker 14 (01:14:32):
Time they were here for US and CJ to beat them.
And so are we gonna put up twenty eight thirty
five points that we need to beat the leadings in
the NFL with this team that we got there in
the old line, man, they need to go back to
the all us back when they had Dawson, Donnelly, Flanley, Mags.

Speaker 1 (01:14:50):
All right, Terry, this is the second this is I
don't know what any of that was, but that was
just a lot of offensive line conversations running through the
whole Yeah, gut feelings. When you make predictions, you don't
give us. I mean, it was Terry was passionate. I
appreciate that, but we're looking for gut feelings. If you
will write all that down ROSSI no, Anthony and dere

(01:15:11):
park Anthony, what's in your gut? This week?

Speaker 10 (01:15:14):
Hey, guys, So I got the Astros going twelve and
six over the last eighteen.

Speaker 8 (01:15:19):
And oh.

Speaker 1 (01:15:22):
Hell yeah, I hope you're right.

Speaker 10 (01:15:26):
Well, hey, my thing is this is this is a
team with a lot of playoff pedigree, a lot of
guys who have been there, done that, and I just
think that they find a way to get it done.

Speaker 1 (01:15:37):
Okay, I like it, thank you very much. Twelve and six,
very very impressive. Gary in spring Gary, what's in your gut?

Speaker 10 (01:15:45):
Hey?

Speaker 5 (01:15:45):
Guys, that first caller was not a Gary that was
looking here at John.

Speaker 4 (01:15:49):
He just did a different name.

Speaker 5 (01:15:51):
I guess he called earlier.

Speaker 1 (01:15:52):
But anyway, look at here. John's an cut. Gary. That's
that didn't look you here, That's a deep, deep cut
that was looking here.

Speaker 10 (01:16:00):
Hey. Uh C J.

Speaker 5 (01:16:01):
Stroud was talking about Lollygaggy and he was talking about
the practices before the game. But anyway, my that feeling
is telling me that uh uh, the Guinness Book representatives
are gonna be at the Texans football game, and and
the fans are gonna do the most perfect wave throughout
the stadium and set that new record. And then all

(01:16:24):
the rest of the NBA teams are gonna I mean
the NFL teams are.

Speaker 8 (01:16:28):
Going to follow them, and uh so they will.

Speaker 5 (01:16:31):
That's what's gonna happen on Monday night.

Speaker 3 (01:16:33):
What a beautiful wave.

Speaker 8 (01:16:34):
It's gonna be.

Speaker 9 (01:16:35):
Thank you fellas.

Speaker 1 (01:16:45):
Hadn't done the wave in a while at NRG right
normally happened. They made to made if they got pissed
off when it happened. Yeah, thank you JJ. It's like,
what are y'all doing? This is a football game? Bill?
What are you calling you a for? Believe it or not?
What's the matter with you?

Speaker 8 (01:17:02):
I have a good feeling that I'm gonna win on
believe it to not today, to win some tickets to
sit the Cougars.

Speaker 1 (01:17:07):
Nope, that's not gonna happen. Nope, it's it's all all
things about Toronto, by the way, I'm believing or not
so getting better study. Yes, oh you're writing it. Oh yeah,
you're gonna win, Bill, Yeah, mine or minor much using
in the rosses. But you're still not winning. Uh James
on seven, Hounty, James, what's in your gut.

Speaker 10 (01:17:27):
Wind?

Speaker 4 (01:17:27):
That feeling? Is this next two series between Texas and
the Shadows gonna terms who's gonna win the West? The
Ashes need to go four and six in the West,
foreign see and then win the West they do that.

Speaker 1 (01:17:45):
That's not actually guaranteed, h honestly, Uh that in that
Texas Seattle series not from until next week. This week
it's Toronto and Atlanta. Yes, must win series. Don't you
send this segment to Marconi? Folks, fine, we can cut
the Terry part out. Roger, you're up last.

Speaker 15 (01:18:10):
No, you know, just kills right with you, guys. All
My best feeling is combination of Lewis and Garcia, Pavier
and Alexander. Two of two of the three pictures are
going to have a dominant performance. I see some sustainable
offense happening. I see how two be breaking out of
the slip. And on the strength of those performances, those

(01:18:32):
picture performance will head me into my next week Dellings
next week, All right, guys, thank you.

Speaker 1 (01:18:39):
Go get you a better phone.

Speaker 10 (01:18:40):
Dude.

Speaker 1 (01:18:42):
It's like he's he's sounds like he's in a bathtub
all the time, and look our phone lines are crapping,
but that's not our fault. By the way, I forgot.
I had a gut feeling hit go ahead from June.
What I said, Travis Hunter, know how? No way, will
not play a season of a hunt percent of the
snaps both ways. They're talking like he was who said that?

Speaker 3 (01:19:04):
What? What?

Speaker 1 (01:19:07):
People after the draft Liam Collins said, Oh, he's gonna
play both ways? He played like five defensive snake said
dirty irishman. And I said, and I also said no way, no.
I didn't say no way, no how. I said he
won't even play one game of one hundred percent snaps. Okay,
that's a good feeling. He claim your credit. I'm glad
you did, all right. Dimiko's up Next eleven fifty seven

(01:19:28):
on seven ninety is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross
twelve o one on Sports Talk seven ninety. It is
the Matt Thomas Show at Ross. We are awaiting at
Dimiko Ryan speaking to the media at NRG, well at
least some legit members of the media and others that
will be just pretend they're media. Seven one three two

(01:19:51):
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven nine zero Astros get ready for a
series with the Toronto Blue Jays in Toronto, and we'll
have a Joe A spot coming up in one half
hour from now. Wonderful. We had a Monday night game
last night. Uh, let's see. Oh uh we Minnesota in

(01:20:12):
Chicago played and the Vikings beat the Bears. We asked
for seven phone calls on last night's game. Yeah, we
got four, so we only three more. That's not true,
not true at all. Count what show you you listening to?
Different show? Are you listening to W I and D
in Chicago? Maybe? All right? Yeah, the Bears are really
disappointing last night, Madigan the Vikings. I don't know if

(01:20:34):
Ben Johnson's all he's cracked up to be. Mm wow.
You know things will be better for the Bears with
one thing, you know, don't you? That be Dicka Dicka

(01:20:57):
the Bears. He's live or dad Mike is a lie?

Speaker 5 (01:21:01):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:21:02):
If he knows who he is today, Yeah, he's a
he's still around, right, Uh yeah, but I think he's
an unfortunate and failing health. Oh really yeah, that's a
share all right?

Speaker 10 (01:21:15):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (01:21:15):
Seven one three seven? Are you checking on the website?

Speaker 3 (01:21:19):
Have we not? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:21:20):
I guess I don't see anything right now. Okay, that's fine,
that's good. Uh, maybe maybe he's again. I think Demik
will be. He's got to spin it properly, right.

Speaker 3 (01:21:30):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:21:30):
One week he's gonna he's gonna give lots of kudos
to the Rams. Most of the spin is more Sunday afternoon.
Now he's just gonna be deflecting. No, not our guy questions, No, no,
not our coach. He wouldn't do that, right, hope not.
By the way, Jay sent me an email. Have you
mentioned the Busby lawsuit? Apparently cow led about it living
having an NBA from Rice? Thanks J for listening. We
spent I don't know forty percent of the show about

(01:21:52):
it yesterday talking about we talked about it. Uh, well, okay,
it's it's not that he lied about the NBA. It's
that he was awarded the NBA without her earning it. Correct. Well,
they're saying Rice says you cannot receive an NBA without
getting at least a bachelor's and they're trying to figure
out where the bachelor's degree is from, whether it's from
Texas or not. Yeah, well he attended Texas. He was

(01:22:13):
a walk on on the football team. I've seen the pictures.
He was, hey, look and he looked like cal McNair.
Did he have a stash back then? I believe. So
I'm gonna try to look up photos. Look, yeah, stash. Ah,

(01:22:33):
there he is, Look at young Calbert. No, it's d.
Excuse me, I think it's D. Cal mcnat's D Calhoun. Yes,
D Calhoun. What do you call him? Calbert? I was
just kidding. That was not bad. You had me fooled
for a second there, Daniel Daniel Calhoun mcmae. Yes, there

(01:22:54):
has been a lawsuit filed by Tony Busby on behalf
of Carrie McNair, who says that the NFL and the
Texans engineered his ouster from the businesses and the team,
and well they are threatening legal action, so we'll see
what happens with you. They're saying sixty million dollars in

(01:23:16):
revenue laws during this time and period. Damage is beyond that. Yeah,
there's the and then there were and then there was
the accusation in the letter from Tony Buzby talking about
it being widely known that cal McNair is unqualified to
be an owner's representative, that that's not really even debatable,
is it. That's why Hannah's doing heavy lifting. That's why

(01:23:36):
Hannah got it. I wonder if Godell told Cal you
gotta get handa more involved caw McNair is not even
a college graduate yet. Cal McNair interestingly interestingly now claims
he obtained an MBA from the prestigious Rice University, although
the Rice administration officers stated quite clearly that an individual
lacking undergraduate degree is ineligible to receive a Rice MBA

(01:23:59):
and the coup de gras in parentheses. Perhaps an exception
was made for cal McNair due to a well time
charitable donation by his parents. We will figure that out
in due course. All right. Uh so there you have it.
The conference has started. We were trying to gather it here.
I don't know what's been on their YouTube. I don't
see it on the website. Quite frankly, that's what they

(01:24:21):
said they were gonna put on the website. Sorry, come on, Houston,
we should ever is where's wack? Can't WEX use his
phone to put it up there? I hope? So one
thing that uh, Brian mctagger just put out a minute
ago that the Astros since sweeping the the Dodgers in
Los Angeles are twenty three and thirty one. That was
July fourth weekend. Okay, since okay said they are what

(01:24:46):
twenty twenty three and thirty one? Twenty three and thirty one. Yeah,
that's not ideal. That's not making me feel good about
where they're going to be. No, that I mean the

(01:25:06):
reality is they are holding on for dear life. Yeah.
What was the analogy you made last week about they've
got like a quarter tank of gas left, Well, they've
got ten miles to go the coast and downhill and
trying to make it through the season. All right, we

(01:25:28):
need to pivot to the news at noon then if
we don't have the press conference. No, let's see it.
They lied to us. They said it's available on their
on their website. Damn you Texans. Stop lying to us,
all right? Bringing the news at Noone Manhattan, leg it up.
Let's go make it up.

Speaker 3 (01:25:45):
All right.

Speaker 1 (01:25:45):
Well, some things we just talked about, hell the news
at dude her old Sports Talk seven idy, including your
Houston Astros facing off against the Blue Jays three game set,
six oh seven. Start this evening on Sports Talk seven
and I will have you for the Astros Tenthening show
today and tomorrow, Matt I will be listening and for
the on deck on Thursday. Actually not, Carl's got a

(01:26:07):
game to this. I'm not listless. I don't worry about it.
Uh So, it's Luis Garcia versus Josse Barrios. Then it's
John alex Wait, not John Jason Alex John Alexander the
Texas beat right, Yeah, Okay, he's gonna be on the mound.
They need some pitching help. Jason Alexander versus Shane Bieber,
Christian Javier versus Kevin Goussman. How are feeling about this?

(01:26:29):
We're feeling like we're gonna score a bunch of runs.
I'm feeling like they're gonna be in. They're gonna be
underdogs and all three of those, hopefully they can win
two of them. Astros. Right now, with the Rangers and
Mariners winning yesterday, they are two games ahead of the
MS and four games ahead of the Arlington Rangers. Right now,

(01:26:50):
the Astros still have eighty seven percent odds to make
the playoffs, and according to our good friends at Fangrafts,
in order to win the American League West, their odds
are fifty eight point eight percent whose percentage to do
what do what? Johny Aos the Astros fifty eight point
eight percent like in the eighties for the longest time

(01:27:11):
ties they were only seven games like a few weeks ago.
Two by that, I think a whole on we need
you want a gut feeling that right this minute, I
said that last I didn't I say this last week,
and I stopped myself that it just feels like it's
not their year. With all these injuries, it just feels
like it's not their year. But I feel like we're

(01:27:32):
gonna get what I don't want is I don't want
it in a month of this team sucks and this
tit is what it is. You can be spoiled. They're
in first they're in first place. They've had a billion
injuries including I mean, your best hitter was out for
one hundred games. It's tough. I was a two v's
on the decline. Carl's Cray is not what he once was.

(01:27:54):
Is Carl's Creab by the way, just a two seventy
hitter with occasional power. That's what it feels like. I
think he's been slightly better than that. In the Nasher's
uniform and had to look it up. I don't know
what you're ready because I'm not totally sure. So this
is why I'm doing this. I've done to myself that way. Eh.
On the season, he's hitting two seventy four with a
seven nineteen ops. As a Houston astro, he's hitting two

(01:28:20):
ninety with a seven to fifty five ops. That's good,
But you don't have a bunch of the most feared
hitters on the Planet's just what this lineup was stacked
with five six years ago. So we'll see from there.
Elsewhere in the news, Matt, you have Dolphins star Tyreek

(01:28:40):
Hill accused him of domestic violence by his estranged wife.
She is a legend. Court filings that he committed domestic
violence and at least eight different instances and it took
her now to report this after eight Well he knows

(01:29:01):
the comment. Yeah, it just feels like it's a large amount.
Well sometimes, I mean we women whatever, Okay, I don't
know the details of their relationship, but no anyway, LL's
attarranny said in a statement Monday that the allegations are
part of a shakedown, adding that they are in an
attempt to generate bad media coverage. For Hill Vacarl alleges.

(01:29:27):
The first incident occurred in January of twenty twenty four,
about two months after her marriage to Hill. Hill has
not been criminally charged and was unclear as of Tuesday
whether law enforcement was investigating with Carl's allegations. Karl filed
for petitionervorce on April eighth, one day after police reported
a domestic dispute between her and Hill. Okay, what it
play out doesn't sound great, it feels I mean, but

(01:29:51):
Tyreek Hill. I mean he also didn't he throw his
in college, throw his pregnant girlfriend downstairs?

Speaker 10 (01:29:57):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:29:57):
I don't think he's and break. We have the conference, alright,
let's go to it. What's going on.

Speaker 7 (01:30:03):
We be excited about what we do here, but for
our fans to be excited about anything we do here
in Houston and Texans got to play better.

Speaker 1 (01:30:14):
I go ahead, I got it, all right, Sure, get
in the questions, gon gone, get to the question. Let's go.

Speaker 16 (01:30:25):
Oh, coach, I know that you know there's only been
one undefeated team that you had complete the whole season
that you know undefeated, I think nineteen seventy.

Speaker 1 (01:30:34):
Two Miami dogins. Right, So you know what kind of
question is this, let's go every game?

Speaker 16 (01:30:40):
Oh my god, how much do you emphasize? Hey, guys,
it's only a week going. We still have a whole
lot of football left. How do you tell them, mate,
it's just one game. Let's move past this and.

Speaker 1 (01:30:51):
Get on here.

Speaker 10 (01:30:54):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (01:30:54):
Man.

Speaker 7 (01:30:54):
That's that's the nature of our business, right, that's man.
You lose fire everybody, every player.

Speaker 1 (01:31:00):
Right, you win, going to the super Bowl? Like, then
the next week everything. I get it, Like, that's the
nature of our business.

Speaker 7 (01:31:08):
It's exciting because you have so many different outlets, so
many different people have an opinion, so many.

Speaker 1 (01:31:13):
People love football. So I love the passion. I love
the energy that comes with this.

Speaker 7 (01:31:18):
Right, it's fun, man, We really enjoy this, and we
understand the seriousness of it as well. Right, But to
that point, the realistic point is one game. It's week one.
The building isn't burning down. It's week one. We go
back and we fix what we need to fix, come
out and do the things that we can control. That's
the main emphasis for this week. How can we just

(01:31:40):
control the controllables and press forward? And now when you
have a chance to truly compete, Now, let's see what happens.

Speaker 1 (01:31:47):
All right, we're kind of it's kind of off killed.

Speaker 17 (01:31:53):
But for player going into your shoes, right, that's usually
like the first off season where in college, still going
to college or to nation. How can that transition deep
going into year two where now you have all that
free time and now you have to figure out how
to structure your off system to fit you know what,

(01:32:16):
you go away that under staying about season versus you
going from college and combin trade to ocase all that what's.

Speaker 7 (01:32:23):
Kind of the difficulty in that Year two for a
for a player in our league is a vital year
because of the off season is like your first true
offseason where you're not worried about combat, you're not worried
about training. It allows you to fully focus on what
do you need to get better at as a football player?

Speaker 9 (01:32:40):
Right?

Speaker 7 (01:32:41):
And you can feel that time by being around the
team training, working on those areas of weakness and improvement,
I prove yourself. So I think that's where you see
a lot of guys can take a massive jump from
year one to year two because their time is more
focused and dialed in on actually football as supposed to
just train right before you coming in as a rookie coach, thank.

Speaker 1 (01:33:03):
You, we got that super late. You know, guys, it's
only one game of the season, and you know it's
all hard to wait in the NFL, and you know,
nobody thinks you go seventeen to old coach? How do
you feel about that?

Speaker 3 (01:33:20):
Coach?

Speaker 1 (01:33:21):
It's like it's like a straight up pr plan cat.

Speaker 11 (01:33:24):
What was that?

Speaker 1 (01:33:26):
That was embarrassing? And then they started it late, like, no,
we got to feed late. That's fine. They didn't put
it up in time. No, it's not their fault. I'm
not blaming them, I'm blaming the dumb ass questions at
the press conference. Jesus. Mm hmmm, exactly exactly. How embarrassing

(01:33:54):
nobody to live in. What's your reaction to people getting
mad after you lost the game? That must what kind
of dumb ass questions at hi Ross? How are your friend?
We will get you some quotes from Admiko coming up
a little bit. The feed was late to us, which
is okay, not that nobody's followed. It's fine, coach. You
know the the Pittsburgh Steelers won four Super Bowls back

(01:34:16):
in the nineteen seventies. Are you still looking to win
your first one? Coach? You know, I usually tried not
to fixate on the questions of others.

Speaker 3 (01:34:31):
But that was just.

Speaker 1 (01:34:33):
That was embarrassing. That was it was bad. That was
the lobbing of a softball to try to get the
coach to like you. It's just it's just our media
market is so embarrassing. It's just is. And if you
want to call me part of the media embarrassing newmak
I'm okay with it. But I mean, I you do
embarrass me daily. I probably do. I always have to

(01:34:57):
answer that question in public. What's wrong with Matt? You
should I'm kidding. Deep breath a spot. I can make
him seven minutes and now, okay, hey coach, you know
it's hard to win a World Series. Hey coach? Uh,
you know you guys aren't the gonna win one hundred
and sixteen games? Is that who We're gonna start every question?
You know you're gonna lose sixty minimum minimum. Every already

(01:35:17):
lost more than that. Maybe some people don't I started
a question. I just think I don't know it just
it was just nauseating. Look, I don't every question I
ask an athlete or a coach is not the greatest either.
I admit that we're all guilty of it. Yeah, but
that was straight boot licking.

Speaker 10 (01:35:38):
Her.

Speaker 1 (01:35:43):
Let me give you the quick recap of thank you
that was said. That's fine, Hey, can you drop those
in RCS two. Let's see Demko says the Texans offense
has to have a little more urgency okay in a huddle,
a lot quicker so they can make nice right reads.

Speaker 3 (01:36:03):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (01:36:03):
He quote, he says, everything falls on me, will get
it fixed. He was not upset over the aggressive penalties,
he said. He was more upset about the pre snat penalties,
the two weeks illegal ships, the false starts, and the encroachment.
To Miko quoted, aggressive penalties are going to happen. We're
not losing our minds over that. Well, that Cam Robinson
holding on the first play of the game was a
horrible call. Yeah, yeah, uh Miel. We've also had so

(01:36:26):
many plays where we were playing behind the sticks. We
did that, so we did so many things we were
not trained to do. It's hard to get the ball
to Nico Collins when we were second and eighteen, third
and thirteen. We have positive plays that opens up the
offense for us. These are all you gotta stay on schedule. Yeah,
I mean, football is very, very difficult, but it's also simple.
Stay on schedule, get first downs, protect the passer, open

(01:36:49):
up passing lanes, score points, easy game. Yeah, that's why.
That's why those coaches put in their seven to seventeen
hour days. It's just that easy. It's funny. I've never
heard of a ball coach going to the office at eleven,
taking a lunch at twelve thirty, and living at three.
Well maybe building Belichick at you wun't see. Yeah, they
played Charlotte. Do you think Bill's like, what am I

(01:37:10):
doing here? I mean, not that any disrespectful to the
University of Charlotte, but it's it didn't even the it
didn't even the Uh they win, Yeah, they won, but wow,
was it a tough was a tough battle for him? Now,
honestly I didn't wasn't paying attention. Now, from Chapel Hill
to Charlotte's about a two hour drive. Okay, So I mean,
what is Belichick like on a bus for a couple

(01:37:30):
of hours sleeping? Do you think the girl's next in
the seventies? Do you think the girls with him probably would?
I would almost guarantee. I would almost guarantee because wives
usually travel with with the coach usually or maybe maybe
they got a layer. Maybe they flew separately. That's a
very Belichick. They met on a plane. It's romantic for
them to be together on the plane that they met on.

(01:37:52):
Why are you rolling your eyes on it? That's crazy?
What are you talking about? True love can be found
even when there's forty ninety years of age difference. Hey,
what's up? You look really hot on this plane. My
name is Bill Belichick. Can I have your phone number?
Is that how it went?

Speaker 10 (01:38:10):
You know what?

Speaker 1 (01:38:11):
Your Belichick and my pilot. I really want to get
back a little bit. I could do it for like
two years and then I lost it, and now it
feels like I want to touch you. No, folks, we're
gonna get you up to thirty one five hundred feet.
It should be a fairly smooth flight. We've got a
few showers to dodge around the Rocky mountains, but once

(01:38:31):
we get past the Washatch Front, we'll get you into
Kansas City right about time. Want to have you thank
you for flying with us. I have a great flight.
If anything that you or you need from our fight attendants,
this amazing crudist don't have desk and thanks for flying
with us here on mirrored airlines. Safe they were I
don't think they were on mirrored airlines. They weren't meeting

(01:38:52):
on merit, you know, Jonathan, I really could talk like
this for the entire flight, for a four hour I mean,
put people to sleep or accidents on the road. Joe's
spotted with this here all the show and skip a
good afternoon. Do you thought or two about the weekends
heres at Arlington? Things are getting kind of cozy. Did

(01:39:12):
you spend Monday looking at Seattle the game or did
you that's IM saying I'm doing airline voice and I
shouldn't be. That's ridiculous. All right, Joe's spott it is
up next to Joe a spot it. Hopefully we'll be
joining us here shortly on the program. It's one third

(01:39:36):
in the east. Maybe he's taking an ap or something.
Get a massage at the spa. I've never gotten a
massage in the city outside of Houston. Is that weird? Yes,
it's usually You're awful, Richmond, right, that is awful, absolutely awful.

(01:39:59):
All right, I'm gonna text the pr folks, well you
will promote your Instagram account or something, you know, Yeah,
you could follow me at sports RV on Instagram. I
just posted a little reel of some of my pictures
from the McDonald Observatory. It's in the ut system and
it's one of the darkest skies you can find in
the entire country. Star party on the New Moon was

(01:40:20):
an exceptional experience. I would love to go back. I
had a great time, and I posted some of my
photos there on my Instagram. At sports RV also later today,
if I get around to it, I'll be talking a
little bit more about Texans Week one and what it
means for them going forward. Well, don't do it unless
you do the do the All twenty two.

Speaker 3 (01:40:37):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:40:37):
I'm not gonna do a full twenty two breakdown, but
I might have a little on there. Ooh man, you
know I'm the inside or you're the analyst. Okay, good? Uh, Yeah,
there was. I definitely want to highlight one throw that
I thought CJ. Stroud made that was exceptional. We'll be
doing that later today at sports RV on Instagram. I'd
appreciate a follow I really need it. Has it really

(01:40:59):
helped You've gotten quite a few follows? Yeah, people that
feel sorry for you. That's okay. I don't care. Get
the numbers up at Sports Army. Okay, we are awaiting, uh,
and we're gonna have some of the highlights from Dimiko's
availability at once. That's wonderful, so we'll just get that
done and then Dimiko and Joe. Wow, well we got
Joe in a couple of minutes, so stand by for that.

(01:41:20):
What else is going on in the world of sports
mental Monday Night game from last night? Steve Sarkisian's odd
behavior at the press conference? Yeah, it's yeah. Do you
think if Sarkisian heard what he said, he's like, did I?
I don't think I answered that properly? And and and

(01:41:42):
I guess the bigger, the bigger questions. Do you think
he's oblivious to what the video is of the of
Arch looking like he was really in a lot of pain.
He did some things that I don't like. And you know, Matt,
I am a longhorned Ross as well. Yeah, and I
like Steve Sarkisian, and I think he's a really good
play caller. I think he can get a little too

(01:42:02):
conservative lean on the defense in big games. But anyways,
I don't like when coaches bully young reporters like that.
Jim Schloschnagel's done it. He's with the Longhorns as well.
And that was that was an intimidation tactic to a
young reporter. It clearly sounded like a young kid working
for while being asked a very fair question. If there's

(01:42:25):
somebody asking a dumb question or out of line or
pushing boundaries or whatever, I can I still don't like it,
but I can more understand it. That's a fair question.
That video is all over Twitter. I had it sent
to me. I think other people who had it sent
to them as well. People are wondering is arch Manning
playing hurt or is he okay? So it's a one
hundred percent above board fair question. Then he tried to

(01:42:45):
cut off and tried to intimidate the reporter, and then
he said something really whack about filming people who go
in the bathroom. What the hell is that? Again? I
believe he saw it. I believe that the reporter. If
you would have said the social media video that's going
out there, that would it by bushy. It would have

(01:43:07):
solved them. But he took advantage of young reporter. And
then and the reality is now in these college press conferences,
you are seeing more nineteen twenty year old young people
writing for the student newspapers that because all the veterans
are getting laid off. Well, yeah, but it's easier not
to go to these things. It's easier just to get
to grab the video and go from there. Let's spend

(01:43:28):
a few minutes with Joe a spot of the manager
of your Houston astro is getting ready for Neils will
say a very important series. Really, frankly, all of them
are important between now and the end of the year. Skip,
it's Matt and Ross. Good afternoon to you. Let me
ask you so since Mcbrian mctecker put out a stat
since that July fourth sweep, your squad's twenty nine and

(01:43:49):
thirty one, and look, it's kind of felt that way,
but you've been able to maintain first place and that's
the most important thing. What have you noticed in those
last sixty games is that the injury bugg is hit
It has there been too many lapses in offense kind
of run us through why this team has been kind
of stuck in neutral for the last couple of months.

Speaker 3 (01:44:07):
Uh, you know what, thanks for having me, guys, by
the way, you know, for me, it's it's a. It's
a combination of all of those things. Obviously, we we've
been injured and we've been banged up, and we have
been able to sustain uh, you know, good play during
those stretches. You know, I think that there is there
is a moment where we have seen signs of okay,

(01:44:31):
here we go. We can run you know, four or
five wins in a row, and then there's pick some
inconsistency with with with our approach and.

Speaker 1 (01:44:41):
It's being able.

Speaker 3 (01:44:42):
You know, we haven't been able to put a ton
of gains in a row where we can see our
offense really separating yourself from the rest of the league,
you know. So I think we trying to handle and
trying to make some adjustments, you know, right now, trying
to get our guys to you know, be more consistent
in the strike zone. You know, we're starting to get

(01:45:06):
some good starting pitching, and there's times where we can
be better at you know, probably taking those.

Speaker 4 (01:45:12):
Deep in the game.

Speaker 3 (01:45:13):
So that inconsistency is something that has has been part
of our game for the last couple of weeks. But
you know, we as you mentioned, it's a very important week.
We have the talent and the desire to do it,
and it's just a matter of just us put it
as all together.

Speaker 1 (01:45:29):
I'm curious, Joe, when you are on an off day
on a road trip and you were in Toronto yesterday
and you see a player, do you give that player
an opportunity to just get away from the sport or
do you sometimes take the opportunity. If you were to
find X y Z player, whether he is the team
leader or he is in a slump or not performing
after your expectations, do you pull him aside or do

(01:45:50):
you try to stay away from baseball on the off day.

Speaker 3 (01:45:53):
No, I try to stay away from the game on
the off days. I think I think it's better to
do that. Maybe on the way on the way from Texas,
here is an opportunity for me to maybe touch base
with some of the players on the plane while they're
trying to relax, you know, they're relaxing and they're playing
cards or they're watching a movie. And I asked him
if I could go sit next to them and we

(01:46:14):
could have a conversation something that they can kind of
reflect during their off day and they could come back
game day just ready to go. Put you know, pulling
guys to the side on an off day. I don't
think it's beneficial for them. I want him just to relax,
disconnect to their parents, you know, talk to their family,

(01:46:35):
and just feel like, get the mine away from the game.

Speaker 1 (01:46:38):
You get Jake Myers back a thought or two about
his performance, and not that he's the doctor. You have
to rely on your medical staff and your trainers, but
you're also going to be spending some time talking to
him about how much he can play and when you
want him out there at one hundred percent. Because look,
as much as Jake's had a good season, Jake not
being one hundred percent and playing at seventy probably doesn't
do you or the team any good at.

Speaker 3 (01:46:59):
This point, all right, and especially especially you know the
turf in Texas and the turf you're in Toronto.

Speaker 8 (01:47:06):
So we we are.

Speaker 3 (01:47:08):
We keep an eye on him, wed my conversations with
him and also with the medical department just to make
sure that we don't we we build him up to
one hundred percent. But he is feeling good. He's indebted
tonight and you know, excited to have him. Really, you know,
we really needed.

Speaker 1 (01:47:23):
Him in centerfield. Astro's manager Joe spotted with us here
on Sports Talk seven ninety. Since your Dan's come back,
he's played a good amount of left field, obviously with
wanting to put al Tuve in the designated hair spot
as well. What is that like for you going forward?
Is it more of a fluid situation and plotting that
out and planning it out and trying to figure that
out on game game babies, game two game basis.

Speaker 3 (01:47:44):
Yeah, yeah, just the fluid situations. I want to keep
both of them, uh, you know, rested and healthy. You know,
Josey playing some second base also allows me to have
your donning as a d H and you're trying to
keepe them both obviously in the lineup and you know,

(01:48:04):
healthy for the remaining of the season. Also taking in consideration,
you know, who were playing, who's pitching for us, the
conditions I here turf, you know how, the condition of
these ballpark being a little bit big on left field.
So I'm trying to make sure that I put good
defense out there, keep these guys healthy, and try to
keep a good offense on the field.

Speaker 1 (01:48:25):
Does it make it easier to do that with somebody
who putting fjord on and left I'm talking about with
somebody like Jake Myers who can cover so much ground
and center.

Speaker 3 (01:48:33):
One hundred percent. You know, I think he helps. He's
he's helping his immense since he can cover some ground.
He's a good communicator, and and the guy in left
field knows that he's got someone that ca cover his wings.
So it does really help when you have Jake in centerfield.

Speaker 1 (01:48:48):
Yes, Skip, you've got a balance left of your schedule
of teams that are I mean, seriously in the thick
of things, Seattle in Texas trying to chase after your championship.
You've got Atlanta, the Angels, and the A's kind of
just running their course out. Is it harder to get
guys ready for those types of series where they have
as much on the table as you do, or is

(01:49:10):
it harder to get guys ready and mentally prepared for
teams that are just playing out the streak.

Speaker 3 (01:49:15):
Guys, Listen, anything can happen at any given night.

Speaker 12 (01:49:18):
We don't.

Speaker 3 (01:49:19):
We don't look at Texas any different than we look
at the A's and the Angels and no Debrakes right now.
Every team has a purpose. They're playing for something, and
is it you know, playing for next season? You know,
winning some spots on the roster Like some of these
younger teams, it don't really matter. We're trying to win series.

(01:49:41):
We're trying to win game one pitch at a time,
one game at a time. But anything can happen on
any given night on a baseball field.

Speaker 1 (01:49:51):
How are you at the bullpen? Look, a day off
is always a best friend of the bullpen. As things
shape up, you got guys in and out, obviously, are
you watching pitch counts a little bit more? Are you
looking to extend guys a little bit more? Knowing that
these games, regardless of the punning we're just talking about,
obviously mean a lot more as you're trying to hold
onto this two game lead.

Speaker 3 (01:50:11):
You know, whether they all say yesterday, it helped. We
also got some lend from Hunter and Valdez which also helped.
You know, going into the series, we were in a
pretty good, pretty good shape. You know, it's nice when
we get our starters to give us take us into
the sixth inning. That that's usually a huge help. But
we're just taking one game at a time, leaning on

(01:50:33):
our offense to you know, give us some you know,
score some runs and and give us an early lead.
And getting our starters to settle in and give us
some quality innings and then hand the ball off to
our bullpen. That strategies steel the same thing. That's who
we are when we plan our best and hopefully we
could get going this week, very important week for for
our ball club.

Speaker 1 (01:50:51):
And it all starts tonight with the Luis Garcia. What
has he told you about himself since coming back and
now healthy and ready to be back in your rotation
and is he a different pitcher in terms of mindset,
pitch selection, velocity. What do you or maybe it's just
you know, he's been a long way a long time
and he's just kind of getting back acclimated putching at
the major league level again.

Speaker 3 (01:51:12):
You know, I think we not. You know, he's not
trying to reinvent himself. He knows which are his strength
and he's weaknesses. You know, the pitches that he likes
to go to ahead of the count. He's always been
really good executing a game plan and you know, following
a game plan and things are not working, adjusting to
that game plan. He's always been really good at that. Uh.
You know, obviously this is a really good Toronto lineup

(01:51:35):
he is going to have to execute and stay away
from the middle of the middle of the plate to
have success. And but one thing about him is that
he is healthy. He feels good. The feedback that we
get him from him is super positive. And we're gonna,
you know, we're gonna give him a good game plan
and and and help him execute that one tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:51:55):
Great stuff has always kid. Thank you very much for
the time, best of luck this week, and we will
talk to you back in town next Tuesday. I think
I thank you. Joe Spot a joke with us here
on Sports Talk seven ninety If you want to come
to anything you had to say, we can do that.
If you want to get into some Dimico cuts, we'll
have that for you the top of the ur We'll
have some of the Demico stuff for you, uh in
about fifteen minutes. It's Sports Talk seven ninety seven one

(01:52:15):
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven NINTI. If you want to
follow us on Twitter, you may do that as well
at Sports Empty, at sports r E. All right, we
are a serious sports show. Because people criticize, people call
their shows and say, wish Matt and Ross would be serious?
Do they really? Oh yeah, they called Sewan all the time.

(01:52:35):
I've never heard that, Yeah, because because well, I mean,
I'm not norm.

Speaker 13 (01:52:38):
I just had to call her just uh kind of
you know with rossa a boot lick you a little
bit and said that that was one of the best
interviews you've ever done with a spot up and now
that was nice timing and rhyming.

Speaker 1 (01:52:47):
Is that was a really good interview. I mean, we're polite,
but we're respectful. But there were things we want to
I mean there was Look, the spot's on first place.
They're not lost thirteen in a row. They're not firing
people left and right. It's fine. So I was cleaning
my my daytime are out. During the commercial break, I
saw have a check from Jimmy Kimmel that I have
not cashed. Oh, can I guess how much it is?

(01:53:09):
Forty seven cents? Jonathan? How much is this check that
I have in my hand from Jimmy Kimmel. He appeared
for a few minutes on one episode a while ago
COVID Is it COVID? Nothing to do with COVID? Huh,
I'm gonna go fifteen cents or dollars fifteen dollars forty
four cents? Oh, God, hello, so close. That's nice, man.

(01:53:33):
They get you forty four cents. Yeah, get you some
double bubble.

Speaker 3 (01:53:40):
This.

Speaker 1 (01:53:40):
This check was dated December twenty seven to twenty twenty four.
Part of me wants never to cash us to their
accounts always messed up by forty four cents. No, you
should do it, but then they'll but then they will
just go ahead and say they'll just avoid the check.
Excuse me, boy, the check. After a while, Jimmy Kimmel

(01:54:02):
gave me forty four cents. Now I got more of
the first time around. I guess the episode is not
running as much as you'd like. I need to run
some more. Just go to YouTube and get that run
about five hundred more times. Well, it's funny because they
told me what they were gonna pay me, and then
they then they sent me the contract and say we're
gonna pay you for every word you said. So I

(01:54:23):
literally got paid per word, so probably a cent per word.
I don't even know, but I I just literally found
I was like, man, I'm man, you are on Jimmy Kimmel,
David Letterman, what else? Uh, that's it? That's good. I mean,
I've I mean on TV shows, I've been on Yeah,
uh well, uh Sports Sunday of lots prime stoppers, No

(01:54:49):
America's most wanted.

Speaker 3 (01:54:50):
No.

Speaker 1 (01:54:52):
I would like to be on the host of the
match Game because Martin Shortzter, you're on rappy job Heeping
Tom's three. If people are listening to the show for
the very first time, I think that I must just
be the most horrible person in the world. I think
they know it's just two guys ribbon on each other. Jonathan,

(01:55:13):
you do you do you agree with all Sports Harvey
on this? You're right, I'm sorry it was Peeping Tom's for. Sorry.
I kind of agree, all right, anything you want anything
from the from the A spot of conversation came to play.
He's trying to play it even keel. Yeah, I mean,
I'm gonna be brwally honest with you. I'd start my
color would start to feel a little tighter.

Speaker 2 (01:55:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:55:35):
Look, you can tell you all that stuff, though, it
doesn't matter when they go between the lines, When when
when these pictures and these guys that you don't get
to the major leagues without having some level of mental toughness.
And I think that's what a lot of the athletes
will tell you, is that, yes, a lot of the
outside noise, and we could talk about it for four
hours on this show. And maybe they are talking about
her checking Twitter or joking with terror like man, those

(01:55:57):
Mariners getting close and all that type of stuff. But yeah,
once you get into your routine, you start warming up,
you get ready for the game, the lineup's posted, and
you get in between those lines. They're not thinking about
any of that. They're just trying to go out there
and win baseball games and hopefully doing a good job
of it. Maren's are won three in a row. Rangers
are won two in a row. I think for mental
health Houston, Texas, we need the Astros to make the playoffs.

(01:56:18):
I really do. I I don't if they if they
have held this spot, how long I been in first
place or at least it's been months, right June? Remember
the first like the first six weeks of the season,
they were like playing five hundred baseball and then was
it May or June? They just exploded. They got really
good in June. June was when they were really good,
even though they had all the injuries. And remember we

(01:56:40):
were sitting there saying, how are they doing this? How
did they keep this up?

Speaker 10 (01:56:42):
Well?

Speaker 1 (01:56:43):
The answer was they couldn't. They couldn't keep it up
to the level that they were. Right, they're still in
first place, it's still a miracle, but yeah, guys are
wearing down twenty nine and thirty one since that July fourth.
Sweet I mean, look at your this is your your
literal rotation for this big Toronto series. Luis Garcia, who
just came off with two years of Tommy John. Then

(01:57:05):
it's it's Jason Alexander, who was a journeyman who was
DFA from the A's earlier this year. And then is
Christian Havier who's coming off of Tommy John. And and
you're not sure what he's gonna give you. So I mean,
if I say they lose two out of three of
those games, you're gonna say that's some kind of crazy
travesy and they're not trying and they're not good or
is it just like I mean, it is what it is.

(01:57:28):
So what's the best thing?

Speaker 8 (01:57:29):
You know, you know what?

Speaker 1 (01:57:30):
The best thing they got going for him right now, honestly,
is the fact that Jordon Alvarez looks like he has
been able to sustain a five game a week schedule.
And I wasn't even sure about that. I tell you
I definitely wasn't sure about that. I wasn't either. I
got him at two home runs? Was he got three? Three?

Speaker 10 (01:57:47):
Nice?

Speaker 1 (01:57:47):
But but he's he's getting on base every time, not
every he's walking a lot, and it's it's been great,
but everybody else has to fall into place. You don't
not asking Jordan Alvarez can be the centerpiece of a
very good lineup. He's going to be your best guy.
He is your best guy. But the plan asking other
guys to be that good is that the guys behind

(01:58:08):
him can't do the job. Then you're just gonna walk
alveraaz to you every single time and take your chances.
Uh yeah, depending on the situation. Normally you try to
get everybody out. But yes, it's easier to walk in
when nobody's doing much of anything. Yeah, you're you would
rather pitch to Christian uh Walker, then you would rather

(01:58:29):
pick in Yanyar Diez, and you would Jordan Alvarez. That's
gonna go. That's gonna ring true for the rest of
their further their careers and for the last six years. Frankly,
that's to me. When we're talking about lineup construction, I'm
not really worried about al tuo Ve batting first, second,
third pinion. I'm worried about who's going to hit behind Jordan,
because if there's no respect given to that guy, then

(01:58:50):
Jordon's gonna spend an awful lot of time at first base,
and the teams are gonna say, we're gonna take our chances.
But man, Christian Christian Walker is is he not the
get pit me of a roller coaster this year? More
down than up? But the ups are like three home
runs in four days, six point fifty road trip, a

(01:59:12):
lot of power, and then there's nights where you take
strike three. So I mean that came earlier this week?

Speaker 3 (01:59:16):
Was it?

Speaker 1 (01:59:17):
Where was it against Texas or who they played before?
The Rangers at home? I don't know what. It was
a Rockies, No, the Yankees. It was Yank Yanks seven three,
bottom of the ninth, bases loaded, Korea strikes out, Walker
strikes out. Yeah, yeah, I was eight to four. I
was there eight to four, you were. I was waiting

(01:59:40):
for the dramatic. That kind of mit game could have
changed the fortune of the entire season. I don't want
to put too much in a one game, but I
was going to do it anyway and got my hopes
up too. I really thought something good was gonna happen.
When that would that have not been the moment of truth,
the moment we were all waiting for bases loaded down
for Kyle's cares up a battle. It was like a
full count. Then he struck up and then I believe

(02:00:04):
Christian Walker is three pitches. Christian Walker was quicker for sure.
Final hour it will include, uh, some comments from Dimico,
NFL rewe, what's happening around the NFL will haven't it
one twenty and believe it or not? All things about Toronto.
And I'm gonna say I'm a fraud because I tried
to do believe it or not today, but I've just
tuned down. Unfortunate and Ross is going to pick up
or left off, and that's why he's as valuable as

(02:00:25):
it gets here. And he's a friend of the you,
friend of all of us here at Sports Talk seven nine.

Speaker 10 (02:00:30):
Thanks.

Speaker 1 (02:00:32):
He's the Matt Thomas Show with Ross. I just spent
an hour ago Dimiko, Ryan spoke to the media and
well some others are boot lickers. Uh your phrase not mine?
You know, Gosh, you started it I mean, let's move on.

(02:01:03):
Are you sure one coming? Because I really love this
is Matt goading me because he knows I'm gonna he's
gonna like what I'm saying. But I mean, come on,
invoking the seventy two Dolphins to like to throw us
to lab of softball. Get to the question, folks, Brevity
is the soul of press conference questions, well said, as

(02:01:26):
Bill Shakespeare would say, Bill, okay, a lot from Demico Ryans.
Let's go ahead and start about the injury updates. We
know that the center Jake Andrews got hurt and Kate
Stover as well. Here's Demiko Ryans on the injuries.

Speaker 7 (02:01:41):
Stover hurt his foot, so he'll be, he'll be, he'll
miss some time.

Speaker 3 (02:01:46):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (02:01:48):
I really hate that he's playing tough physical exactly how
he wanted done. But he'll miss some time. So we'll
have to, you know, upgrade our tight end rooms from
that perspective. H Andrews rolled his ankle, so he'll be
day to day.

Speaker 1 (02:02:03):
See how that goes.

Speaker 11 (02:02:04):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (02:02:05):
Barrios and Kirk are doing well on their recovery. We'll
see how they how they go this week. No timetable
set right now.

Speaker 1 (02:02:12):
For those guys. I believe it was a high ankle sprain.
It's a report for Jake Andrews. Yeah, but sounds like
a significant period of time. So they're gonna have to
go get some serious linement help, like right away, where
I mean, can can we just can somebody in our

(02:02:37):
audience back me up on this or say, yeah, let's
slow it down a little bit. That that Nick Caserio fundamentally,
even with the picking up Ursery early in the draft,
even though that he went and got, h what's Cam
Robinson that he so didn't addressed this. I was listening

(02:02:58):
to a team yesterday. I know you do week to
two to six years on such and WHATX is like.
There are teams that fix offensive lines in one season.
This does not have to be a prolonged issue for
this organization, and it's and it appears not. Granted we're
only one game in. Things could certainly change the next
handful of weeks. But if this is going to be
another offensive line issue, this will be the third year
in a row this team has had massive, massive problems

(02:03:21):
on the offensive line, and somebody has got to be
held accountable for this. Well that's somebody is certainly Nick
Cassio and and they did try to address things. I mean,
when you do. The problem is they tried, but they
haven't hit. If Blake Fisher was a hit, Juice Rise tackled,
Juice Scruggs a second round pick, and Arianta Ursery. I

(02:03:43):
have this crazy notion that folks, this crazy thing to
to shout from the mountaintops. You can hit second round picks.
You're supposed to. You can hit second round picks on
the offensive line. If if you had Blake Fisher hit
Ursery hit and your set at the tackle position and
Juice Scruggs in the middle of the line as well,
you're talking about them being you know, at least at
the worst amy yocre offensive line. So they've tried to

(02:04:06):
address it. Unfortunately they've they've missed from there. And Blake
Fisher's gonna end up being a big miss because I
was hoping that, you know, he was horrible at the
start of the season last year, got a little bit
better with an off season to get better, to get stronger,
to to get you know, more reps under his belt
or whatever. I was hopeful this whole offseason that Blake
Fisher would show us something, and he's not even sniffing

(02:04:28):
the field. So we were teasing about Bobby Slowick saying,
not my fault. Yeah, I wonder if how Larmie Towns
is feeling enough to look in at that Texans Rams game.
He's been so apparently Blake Fisher is so bad that
they had to kick Titus Howard in from right tackle
to left tackle, I mean, from right tackle to left guard.

(02:04:48):
I mean, it's just too much. If they were set,
then you could have kept Ursery at left tackle and
Blake Fisher at right tackle. But they clearly don't trust that.
That's what I'm saying, And I'll say this, if this
is all Caserio's mastermind plan, Dimiko's doing a really good
job of hiding it. Because if I'm a coach and

(02:05:11):
I have you're giving me these receivers who are very
highly thought of out of Iowa State, and you have
an elite wide receiver in Nico Collins, and I've got
a quarterback who I believe he's elite, and I can't
protect him and can't give him past protection, and I
can't move the ball down the field because of either
a double guy's in motion or holding penalties or the
inability to keep my quarterback upright in a seven step drop.

(02:05:34):
I'd start to I'd start to show some signs like
I mean again, I'm not expecting Dimiko to come out
and say, well, I can't have this team move if
I don't have offensive if you didn't give me the grocers,
I can't can't cook. And that's what Nick Kayley is saying.
And that's what Bobby Slok was saying.

Speaker 3 (02:05:52):
But I.

Speaker 1 (02:05:54):
Why answer my fundamental question, why do other teams? And
I can't think of one off the top, But I
mean things can be repaired rather easily in the NFL world,
ranging and drafts allow you to do that. I would
say it's first of all, it's difficult because we're in
thirty two NFL markets and talking on the show, we're
talking about how important it is to have a great
offensive line. Everybody knows that. There's no secret, so everybody's

(02:06:16):
got to have a decent offensive line. Everybody knows that
offensive line is a priority. Generally in free agency franchise
left tackles generally don't hit the market unless you're going
via trade. Of course, we know with larrymy Tunsel coming
here from the Dolphins. But that was also Bill O'Brian

(02:06:37):
paid above sticker price. There's two first round picks and
made him the highest paid tackle in football. And yeah,
because he tore up the contract and said, I know
I've got you. I'm gonna get you if every doubtar
I can. So it's not that easy. Everybody wants to
improve their offensive line the free agency market. You have
to find guys who are maybe either coming off an
injury and you feel like they could bounce back stuff
like that. I mean, Cam Robinson wasn't horrible, and Ursery

(02:07:01):
needs to be better. And then I'm I'm just really
disappointed that Blake Fisher so far has has been a zero.
When I was hoping coming out of Notre Dame as
a rookie he would be better than he has been,
and he's just hasn't contributed at all. And area, don't
you go, don't you then evaluate how you're evaluating that position.
I think you should. I think they are. I don't
think because you think I'm now. Of course, we can

(02:07:23):
all have our biases with the decision we made and
say oh this went wrong and that went wrong, But
I think at some point he could step back and say, hey,
maybe I'm not doing correct I'm not valuating these offensive
linemen correctly. It's like, for instance, if I was named
the general manager of this radio station, I have a
pretty good feel of how to program the station, but
I don't know the sales aspects of it. So I
would make sure i'd hire the best people that I knew,
that knew the sales portion of it, or the engineering

(02:07:46):
or the facility. You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (02:07:47):
I just.

Speaker 1 (02:07:49):
And maybe, and maybe Cassario is like, we're trying, weep,
we keep going to it. We're just there's got there's
a disconnect that is happening between what is being and
what is being performed on Sunday, whether it's the coaching,
and you've already tried to fix that now with a
new offensive line coach. You got rid of your offensive coordinator.
You keep drafting people, you went and you got rid

(02:08:13):
of what you thought was a problem. And I don't deny.
I mean, Laramie Tunsseell being traded I think will be
a good thing short term pain for long term gain.
I feel like I'm a cliche machine. What's the wrong
with me today? What is wrong with you?

Speaker 3 (02:08:27):
Matt.

Speaker 1 (02:08:27):
But the point being is this, I guarantee you, I
guarantee you that what is being publicly said is not
how probably it's being felt in that locker room about
how Laramy Tunzel was. Larry Tunzel was not a team leader.
Laramie Tunszel was a captain by default. Larmy Tunsil was
a good pass protection aligneman, but he was not a
good established run blocker, and he gave zero craps about

(02:08:49):
being a good teammate and leading by example. And Demiko's
wan guys like that. So I applaud the difficult decision.
But if that was a decision that Rossie, that was
probably made right after the end of the season, right,
They didn't just wake up on the middle of February
going I gotta move him. Then you had to imagined.
But you then you have to unbelievably overdraft and overcompensate

(02:09:11):
to try to replace him. Give this team options right now,
It's like a bag jigsaw puzzle with a bunch of
a couple of pieces gone. God is Jesus Okay? So
you're asking me the PFF grates, Yes, tell me and
I will stress. This is one data point. One data

(02:09:32):
point not the end point. These are guys that don't
get lad in a regular event, and it's one week
out of thirty two. You wanted the textan to be
in the top twenty five. I'm talking about arianta Ursery,
your second round pick grade.

Speaker 4 (02:09:46):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (02:09:47):
Just for reference, this is on a one to one
hundred scale, one hundred being awesome, one being sucks forty
one point six. What does that rank among other left
tackle six? There were sixty five tackles who received a
grade on Sunday, and he was sixty second. Wait a minute,

(02:10:12):
I was told all during training camp, But how awesome
ariante Ursery was. Why weren't the YouTubers telling me about this?

Speaker 3 (02:10:23):
Go on?

Speaker 1 (02:10:23):
Keep going?

Speaker 3 (02:10:24):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (02:10:25):
Do you want to know where Jemie Dunzel was? Go ahead?
Number seven seventy nine. Grade number one was armand membu.
He's in the number seven pick of the New York Jets.
Well that's gonna happen. How about the entire grade as

(02:10:45):
the team? Is there anything? It's not like a teen grade,
but I can give you any players grade you want.
Just run through the people we would know. Cam Robinson
sixty six, CJ. Shrouds seventy three, he's sixteenth to thirty
two quarterbacks. I feel about right. Mediocre swear when you
game didn't lose you the game? Yeah, that feels right.
He'll win you some games. You know, Hunter and Will
Anderson were the highest rated Texans. That sounds about right.

(02:11:07):
Could have it before kickoff as he's also here, had
a good game too, was all over the place gave
Derek Singley had a bad game. Yes, uh, they have
him thirty nine point eight. What was Sauce Gardner? Why
he's probably worse than the Jets? Secondary was terribly asking
about so garter Man because Thomas Sports Enterprise has told

(02:11:27):
you he was the pick. Well, uh, Derek Singler was
first team All Pro last week, so yeah, but last year,
but saus Garner was Rookie of the Year defensively, Yeah,
it's okay. So why did Gardner great? I don't know.
I can pull up the cornerbacks in a minute here.
I got tackles pulled up right now. Don't worry about it.
He was number one ninety point three. Shut up, Sas Carter,

(02:11:48):
No way, you're lying. I'm not lying. Thomas Sports Enterprise.
God here continues to give you information. What was Will
Levis's greats Thomas sport, It's Enterprises, Thomas' zero because it
was John Ross's grades second Groceries and Kroger's also hurt.

Speaker 5 (02:12:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:12:07):
Oh wait, good pull for you on Kroger because Kroger's
a Cincinnati product and John Ross's baby with bingals. That
was that got lucky? Yeah, you was all right? NFL
rewind is up next. Well, we'll go through more terrible
data points. One data point not the endo bio. Can
you find us a better one better than a point? Yeah?
The Ross Football Focus grades had Ariante arcerated eighty five

(02:12:31):
one fifteen on Sports Talk seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seven on twenty two.

Speaker 5 (02:12:54):
It is.

Speaker 1 (02:12:57):
The Matt Thomas Show at Ross every Tuesday at won twenty.
We'll find out what's happening around the National Football League elsewhere,
because if you think things are bad here, it's gonna
be worse elsewhere. The answer is yes. South Florida is
wigging out right now over the Miami Dolphins. Massive beatdown
over the by the Indianapolis Colts, a fellow AFC south

(02:13:17):
full of the Texans did see a report ROSSI that
Mike McDaniel could be out in six to seven weeks.
First of all, that's a kind of a weirdo. Yeah,
Florida timeline. If you're gonna fire somebody, you're gonna do
If they get their ass kicked in three weeks by
a terrible team and they're owing four, they can make
the move now. There's no reason to wait six or seven.
So I think that report was largely just a more

(02:13:39):
of assumption rather than based in fact. But that's just
one of the things that could be a part of
the NFL rewind Yes, Matthew, Well, we will start with
yesterday's Monday night game, a comeback victory for the Minnesota
Vikings twenty seven to twenty four over their divisional rival
in the Chicago Bears. Lose JJ McCarthy just thirteen to

(02:14:03):
twenty fo one hundred and forty three yards, but a
couple of big touchdowns late in this one. Caleb Williams
had some accuracy issues. Have we seen also throw some dimes?
I mean he can throw some rockets. Got a little
more touch on the ball here and there. Twenty one
of thirty five with one touchdown, no interceptions. Ben Johnson

(02:14:24):
in his big debut. A lot of talk of the
offseason about him and his offense and how he is
the offensive guru that was the engine of the Lions
who might have I mean, there might be some argument there,
but fell short at home against divisional rivals the Minnesota Vikings.
What does this mean going forward for Ben Johnson and
the Bears five and twelve, Well, they would probably hope

(02:14:49):
that they could be If Caleb Williams continues to overthrow
his receivers, they're gonna be a massive trouble. He Now,
he's freakingly athletic and he eludes tacklers and he can
keep plays alive. But the seven step, there were two
or three passes last night. You were just shaking your
head over. You've got to find that man. Yeah, stepping
up of the pocket is an incredibly difficult thing. But
if you can't do it in the NFL and make

(02:15:11):
those throws, you're never gonna be super successful. We just
saw a quarterback on Sunday by name of Matthew Stafford
who Rossie has made a living stepping up in the
pocket and feeling the pressure and still making them throws.
He's done him for sixty thousand yards. I would say good,
not great was Matthew Stafford on Sunday, but he did
get the victory. The Niners beset by injuries again. George

(02:15:34):
Kettle placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. Is
expected to make a full recovery in four to six weeks,
but they will see there. They also waved Jake Moody
after Moody missed a twenty seven yard field goal and
had a thirty six yard attempt blocked against Seattle. Jake
Moody has not been good in his Niners tenure. He

(02:15:56):
was waved. Also brock Purty as a toe shoulder injury,
non throwing shoulder, but also a toe injury. For brock Purty,
he is questionable next week. So Niners getting hit by
some injuries over there in San France, but still won
the game in Seattle last week. Yes, they did, even
with fake Niner fans dressed up and they were really

(02:16:17):
Seattle police officers. Yes. Did we hear of any incidents
like we here's anything after that?

Speaker 3 (02:16:24):
No?

Speaker 1 (02:16:25):
No, no, they were going to show. Did they're a
police offer got suplexed anywhere?

Speaker 3 (02:16:30):
No?

Speaker 1 (02:16:31):
Belly to belly. No, everything is fine everybody behaved themselves. Okay,
it looks like a great place to watch a game,
all right. Well, we mentioned this earlier as well, but
it is a notable NFL news. Unfortunately, Tyreek Hill accused
of domestic violence by his estranged wife. According to documents
obtained by TMZ, wife Keid of Acar, alledging eight separate

(02:16:51):
incidents of domestic violence and finding a filings related to
the couple's divorce case. She filed the petition on for
divorce on April eighth, one day after police reported a
domestic dispute between her and Hill. Tyreek Hill's attorney saying
in a statement to Yesterday that the allegations are part
of a quote shakedown end quote, an attempt to generate

(02:17:13):
to bad media coverage for Hill. Nothing we can come
in on m just an unfortunate situation. We'll have to
wait for all that to shake out. But Tyreek Hill,
of course, does have a history of domestic incidents. Yeah,
I don't. Yeah, people will talk about him getting traded,

(02:17:35):
possibly back to the Kansas City Chiefs. I wonder if
this impacts that at all. The answer is yes, especially
when the the guy that he'd be replacing is out
for six weeks. Yeah, for such a similar situation. Yeah,
that is true, all right. Elsewhere ESPN doing a breakdown
for play callers for every NFL team, of course, breaking

(02:17:58):
down the Houston Texans first year in this role, he
has never called plays. Does have a Patriots background, as
we know. Also, John Carroll Nick Cassario as his bro
key stat that they listed Kaylee's time as a pass
game coordinator for the Rams. They utilized play action on
thirty two percent of its snaps, the third highest rate
in the NFL. Texans eleventh in play action usage last season.

(02:18:23):
But see, play action to me is overrated if you
don't have a running back that you that you can respect. Actually, well,
data and I know you're not gonna get mad at
the data nerds. Data nerds say, it actually doesn't matter
that much. It's all about just baiting the guys anyways.
Uh yeah, because you can in cleary, if you're an
NFL running back on the field, you have to be
considered a potential weapon. Because when you listen to defensive
coordinators and defensive players, what's the thing they say they

(02:18:45):
want to do first? The right? Okay, I get it,
but I'm trusty dat if Damian pears in the background,
I'm not nearly as scared about it. Whether it's Travis Hand,
I would say it certainly can matter. Especially it can
creep into your conscious if somebody if you've been getting
gashed in the run, I feel like, yep, even though
data nerds say that's not true. But you know, I'm

(02:19:08):
just happy that you call them data nerds. You know
what's all with that? I mean, they're not data, they're
not data. Great guys, and you know, gregarious and fun.
To hang out with the nerds is very cool. I
bet you ten percent of them are cool to hang
out with. What's wrong with that ten percent? I don't
want to hang out with those guys. Well you don't, No,

(02:19:29):
it's all we're not friends. That's rude. Nerds could be
cool people. But look, I was a nerd back in
the day. Was gonna look how it turned out. Don't
answer that we were on TV Massive Uptaking Kickoff returns.
If we were on TV, we couldn't play fifth of Beethovens,

(02:19:50):
so we can. I'm actually happy we're not on TV.
We'd play some other instrumental and this segment wouldn't suffer.
I think it's I think it adds to the segment though,
for sure. Okay, sure, Oh one other thing I meant
to mention. The Giants are sticking with Russell Wilson as
their starting quarterback. Jackson Dart of course waiting in the wings.

(02:20:11):
Russell Wilson not great in Week one, Brian Dables saying
Russ will be the starter. He was seventeen of thirty
seven for one hundred and sixty eight yards with no touchdowns.
So I was watching Fox NFL Sunday and Aaron Andrews
went to go talk to Russell Wilson, you know, New Destination.

Speaker 3 (02:20:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:20:31):
I was thinking to myself, this is a guy hanging
on for dear life. You're going to give an entire
segment to a New York Giants sucky quarterback, a Super
Bowl champion. Russell Well, he was horrendous in Denver. I
don't even remember anything memorably he did in Pittsburgh at all,
and he was off to a lousy star with the Giants.
He made some big throws in Pittsburgh. By the way,

(02:20:52):
how did Daniel Jones doing Indianapolis? He was great, seventy
two yards, Michael Pittman touchdowns, they're saying, like Anthonys the
tight yeah, or Anthony Richardson not really, he's been given
every opportunity. Well, I mean he made a lot of money. Yeah,
he's just fine, that's right. Yeah, I guess he's doing Okay, Yeah,

(02:21:13):
thirty three to eight victory for the Colts over the
Dolphins were scared. We're saying, that's what I was gonna
ask you. Is it just the Dolphins? What it's week one?
Just week one against the Dolphins. This week one, okay,
just week one? And that, my friends, is the NFL
rewind nicely done. Sports are all right, believe it or not.
Today is all things about Toronto, Ontario, Canada and Drake. Oh,

(02:21:35):
Drake's getting in the mix on that too. Okay, Uh,
last chance. If you want to come in and say hello,
seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven nine zero, it's
Matt Ross, open line available for you, whether it be
about the Texans and a little hangover after Sunday's loss.
Astro is getting ready for a three game series of Toronto.

(02:21:59):
We gotta you know, we're gonna do it. The Astros
when they were gonna find it Celene Dion is a
low hanging fruit on Canadians. Kendrick Distrack. Oh that's right. Now,
what if they lose the can Pi do the same thing, right,
and then we can do Celine Diona. Yes, she'd probably
got some sad music. Oh she I'm sure she does. Hey,
Seline Dion, powerhouse. I respect Selene Dion's game. So famous

(02:22:19):
Canadian singers. Brian Adams, Celine Dion, Drake Drake. That's three. Oh,
that's a good one. Four we go to google Canadian singers.
Joni Mitchell, Oh, a Pink Paradise, Gordon Lightfield, Foot Dead too, Sonda,
Avril Levine, Oh, Lennis Morrisett. We should have got that one. Yeah,

(02:22:41):
Neil Young, Canada's done quite well. And I went on
the Weekend. Oh that's why he and Drake got beef right,
they got Toronto Turf Wars. And by the way, I'm
gonna leave you a little controversial note before we go
to break here. Oh, Canada better than the Star Spangled
You've been saying that for years and it's wrong. Oh

(02:23:01):
Canada is good. Oh, Canada is fantastic. But come on
now when you go the Oh, say can you see
bring it home, Land of the Free, Home with a
brave doesn't get any better than that. God keep our
land glorious and free. That's good stuff. Oh Canada, Yeah,
we're gonna get you a mounty outfit, mister. You're mister
Canada more than your mister Texas. You know the Canada

(02:23:23):
national anthem and ANDAs. Yeah, he's mister Canada. You know
what he loves Tim Hortons. I do love Tim Hortons.
But there's Tim Hortons and Katie. Yeah, but where are
they from? Canada? Okay, you're a mister. Actually, I'm gonna
start campaigning to call you mister Canada. It's false. One
thirty three. Come on and join us, please please. More

(02:23:44):
of you talking to me and lesson to Ross and
Jonathan makes me a much happier man. Seven one three
two point two five seven Ummy all right, uh, I
need it. I always do this to rosso times, about

(02:24:05):
whether it's sports or life. I need a ruling here.
I'm here for you, Matthew. Okay, I know the right answer,
but I want to just humanize it a little bit. Okay, alrighty,
what a go for us? Matt All right? Missouri played
Kansas this weekend in Columbia, Missouri, Kansas. That's a blood feud,

(02:24:25):
isn't it. It is a long rivalry that has been
called the Border War or something dormant for a while,
but it's back now. Okay, okay, okay. Missouri won the
game forty two to thirty one. Shout out to the Tigers.
McGovern Cono McGovern's Tigers. Here's what happened. The Big twelve

(02:24:46):
says Missouri scored the first touchdown a game on a
thirty two yard run by running back Maud Hardy. After
the play, Missouri center Connor Tollison was flagged for an
unsportsman line conduct. The fifteen yard penalty was assessed on
the kickoff. Does that make sense?

Speaker 3 (02:25:05):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (02:25:05):
Okay, so Missouri had to kick off from its own
twenty yard line Missouri. Instead of kicking off like usual,
Missouri punted to the Jayhawks and the officials allowed the
play to happen. Teams are required to kick off of
the ball on a tee after a touchdown from their

(02:25:26):
own thirty five as a safety. Teams had the option
of kicking from a tee or punting the ball to
their opponents from their own twenty yard line. That's only
after a safety, not after a penalty. Ummm, so the
Big Twelves like we goofed our officials made a major mistake.

(02:25:50):
They have suspended the officials for this week's games. What's
the difference between a drop kick and a punt? Dropkick
has to hit the ground ground. Okay, don't don't let
the confuse the story though. Okay, So they punted and
they should have kicked, and then they suspended the officials
for it. Yeah, the only time you could punt from
the twenty is again after a safe. That's pretty elementary.

(02:26:13):
It feels like I've been hearing that for decades, hearing hearing,
you've seen it. You're watching a football in your life.
And they suspended the officials for that goof? I mean
that seems right?

Speaker 3 (02:26:25):
Is that? So?

Speaker 1 (02:26:27):
Is that is that cutting dry?

Speaker 8 (02:26:28):
You miss it?

Speaker 1 (02:26:29):
Look, they will not fire people for missing for judgment
calls or suspend calls, but they will suspend your ass
for I mean that feels kind of manuchiony. Is that
a word? Manuciinee?

Speaker 3 (02:26:42):
No?

Speaker 1 (02:26:44):
Or is it pretty cut and dry? I guess it's
pretty cutting dry? Seem pretty cut and dry? You can't
after after a touchdown, you kick the ball off. Seems so.
My question is, how did the I'd be alarmed if
that happened in Peewee. There's eight guys that are officiated,
right and on a football field, sure, I think it's eight.
How did it all did? Did not one of them
just snap to it and say, this is not a safety?
This is clearly it was like a hot girl in

(02:27:08):
the JumboTron. They weren't paying attention. I don't know they
have hot girls in Missouri, point ping is. I kind
of feel bad for him because I would frankly like
to see officials score punished for bad judgment more so
than oops, we goofed. It wasn't like this procedural procedural error.

(02:27:32):
I guess you're right. I don't even know the rule.
And like you said, how did everybody let this go?
Nobody say anything? Then one guy was like, hey, they
pinned the ball. You know again? Remember it? In this
world now they all wear headsets. They can all talk
to each other. Absolutely, they can't. Oh, I didn't know that. Yeah,
you've seen guys with the little mica. I thought they
were just talking to the stadium or whatever, talking back

(02:27:53):
to New York I don't know they're talking. They can again,
I don't know if they had here, as I don't
know the story. Worry I'm reading from from Yahu says
the only logical explanation is that the location of the
kickoff caused confusion and officials didn't realize what happened because
of the fifteen yards So this kills. They were kicking
off from where a safety would be. That's it, right,
But man, how does that happen? Slipped everybody's mind at once?

(02:28:18):
But eight guys' minds. That's crazy, And you wanted to
spoke up and then yeah, yeah, I don't know. It
seems suspension. We've suppen them for a game. I mean,
you missed a very basic rule of football. But if
you're working Big twelve college football, that's something. I mean,
I can see that even happening at the sixth grade level,

(02:28:39):
you know what I mean. But I could see it
happening at sixth grade level, But it'd be even many.
We would all be in the stands like what is this?
Why are they punting? We would all be confused. All
I will say is, and I mean this in all sincerity,
thank god it didn't. This didn't happen in a later
point of the game where it could have obviously turned
things around. That's true, But I just I just thought

(02:29:00):
it was not ill timed, but just a little weird that.
Oh you see big twelve suspension. Maybe somebody had a
tie to the school or something. No, it's just because
gambling controversy. That was my first thought when you said it,
isn't that funny? How everybody thinks that too? That's crazy?
All right? So the Texans are off? I think there.
Then I then the practice. Let me look at their
schedule this week because it is a little wonky because

(02:29:22):
of the skimming off there. No, I don't. I'm not. No,
they had their they have their off day. They are practicing. No,
they're off tomorrow. Okay, what's gonna handle all this? He
loves going to practice? What's he gonna is he gonna
leave the Is he gonna leave the A team early
on Monday games at six? You gonna call in on

(02:29:43):
the way. You know that Kirby traffic ain't easy. If
you left here at sick you try to get to
you try to get to NRG from here on the
going down west loop at five o'clock. Whoa will Wex
make it to the game. The answer is one hre percent.

Speaker 8 (02:30:00):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (02:30:00):
The question is going to be win. Will he arrive
third quarter?

Speaker 11 (02:30:03):
All right?

Speaker 1 (02:30:04):
Believe it or not? All things about Toronto. It's up next.
It's one forty four on sports Talks. If any rods
of a price are already locked and loaded on the line,
if you want to follow up seven one three, two
one two five seven ninety non price ors, you get
at the top of the list. I'm believe it or not.
We need some fresh blood on the old believe or not?
Do you We said we were going to do ones
like at twelve thirty and stuff. We've got to remember

(02:30:24):
and I can write them early. Okay, maybe, yeah, we'll
figure it out. Texans are receiving a little bit of
bad news. Actually the Texans aren't. It's Hannah and cal
Uh City. Denver is going to build a new stadium
for the Denver Broncos in two thousand and thirty one.
It's going to be a retractable roof and no additional

(02:30:45):
taxes will be used to fund set stadium. It'll be
all privately funded. Now, they're going to probably get some
kickbacks on the space they're gonna build it a downtown
development around it, you know, kind of restaurant shops, bars
at that kind of thing. But uh yeah, no new
uh tax dollars to be used towards a new facility. Hmm,

(02:31:08):
that's okay with it. I'm okay with Amy. I got
news for you. Denver would pay those those Bronco fans
would pay crazy money to keep that team there. And
the owners could say, we're not paying a dime. You
want to. You want the Broncos to state you got
to pay it, build a stadium will They got three
Super Bowls. It's it's intense there. We've seen this with

(02:31:32):
the Astros. You want your town to fall in love
with you and support you till no end. Yep, you
gotta win. Gotta win, baby. We did obligatory Astros call, Maddie,
you know very well. I think I think I created
the obligatory Astros call. You did. Why did we create it?
Cause nobody was talking about the team. There's Astros love.

(02:31:55):
But obviously it's gotten a lot deeper and wider, wider
or wider wider, and teas like why do you care
what the skin color are? The fans? It's getting very
deep and wide the last several years. Matt her five minutes,
lef to go on the show. What should we do?

(02:32:18):
We should playmer Becau's fastest growing sports radio game show.
We simply call it be leaving it out in ears.
It works. You'll call seven one three two, one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five

things about Toronto, Ontario. kN I was like having brain

(02:32:42):
cramped there Toronto. So you're looking at women Texas women's volleyball.
How come Horns w A and m SMU and Sanfra Missouri.
It's a good matchup there. Tonight I'll read your statement
about Toronto statements completely utterly accurate. You'll say this, believe
if a stavement Tironi is full of ball committup. You
will say this to believe it or not? Its in
