Speaker 2 (02:32):
Spot ten oh two in h Town. Good morning, and
welcome to a Tuesday edition of The Matt Thomas Show
with Ross. This is Sports Talk seven ninety blank a stock.
The latest numbers are in on the Jake Myers Fan Club.
Oh my god, you're like crypto, dude, You're like bitcoin.

(03:00):
I'm just, you know, sitting here enjoying Jake Myers and
what he provived. You're like my four one care after year.
It dipped two months ago, but now it was exploding.
I've been trying to open you people's eyes to the
greatness that is Jake Abraham Myers. I was gonna say

(03:21):
Santander for some reason, that wouldn't fit Abraham. Yeah, Jakub
Abrahem Myers. Yes, let's go. Or if he's from Ireland,
he's my American League MVP favorite right now ahead of
Aaron Judge All Star. Go ahead and say I put
your name on it. Put your name on it, not

(03:42):
on that president. We'll see what happens. We're just happy
that he's being in the lineup every day and productive.
God is That's all The Jake Myers Fan Club overside
cold in here at all. Yeah, you gotta you gotta
neme you. I think dam puts it on sixty three degrees. No,
I don't think so. All right, it's fine, all right,
good morning, every one of these ten oh seven on

(04:03):
Sports Talk seven on you. It is a Tuesday edition
of the radio program. We have a ridiculously busy show. Now.
Yesterday we try to have a busy show, but there
just wasn't a lot of meaty topics. We didn't get
into a deep dive on the NBA Conference Finals. We
should have. It'd been nice. But you know, we got
a deal in reality. Is we gotta play the hits. Okay,
we can play the hits. The Astros have went back

(04:24):
to back road games. It's very good, beautiful. We can
play the hits that they didn't have to come from
behind now they were tied after a while. Yeah, I
mean it's a step of the right direction, is now.
It wouldn't be bad just go and just win a
game from the start. It'd be nice. We're gonna play.
Is this astro a picture in the rotation or not?

(04:44):
Because the names that are being put out there right now,
I look, I'm not a huge minor league dork. I
don't sit there and call what's going on in Ashville
or or Fayetteville or l pas So or you know,
well that's not a pastles on an astros markt. But
you get my drip back Corpus Christie, a little bit

(05:07):
of space cowboys because they're close. Yeah, we do get
their releases, which is nice. So I kind of keep
I read those you do, yeah, I do, well, separates
between me and you. And so a point being is this, Uh,
when their name is being brought up, largely most of
them are like who unless they're phenoms, and the Astros
haven't had a pitching phenom and the system in quite

(05:28):
some time. Well, they're going to. We're going to create
some phenoms that we're gonna create because I have no
idea who these people are. Uh, the Astros again, Colton
Gordon went yesterday. Didn't you know who that is? I do,
because he's made a couple of stars good. But there
are some other people that have yet to really hit

(05:50):
the mark here. In fact, I have to look at
his name because I've already forgotten that already. The Astros. Uh,
let's see, Colton Gordon went tonight, yes and then I
mean last night, Matthew Carra Carra will give me the
name on tonight, of course we got Kara hor Are. Yeah, well,
least I called him Matthew. Yeah, I called him Mark
the other day. That's fine, that's kind bad. He's fine.

(06:12):
I really felt bad, did you? Yeah? I did. Well,
that's nice. But yeah, the Astros went back to back
winning games on the road. They came to half game.
You're true called Brandon Walter. By the way, is his
name Brandon Walter? Are you just picked two names out
of a hat. No, because if you listened to the
on Deck Show, I told you that last week he

(06:34):
was the PCL Pitcher of the Week. Last month, nine
games for the Space Cowboys, e ra a of two
point twenty seven thirty four k's and a point seven whip.
And Brandon Walter is a left hander and he will
throw today for the local night okay, in hot, steamy Tampa, Florida.
By the way, it must have we're going for our

(06:56):
Is that the fifth Astros debut pitcher debutante. It felt
like it's a lot. It's really that is a lot.

Speaker 3 (07:05):
Me.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
It's it's May twentieth. There's too many pictures in my
brain can't hold their names. I know some people said
that the pitching depth was just great, but well, we're
proving in here right now, are we look at that,
all these different pictures that are being thrown out of them. Yeah,
that's they're so good. All these guys are getting one
start and getting sit back down. Hey, Colon col gets
to sleep in his bed today in Tampa. That's good.

(07:25):
He's pitching in front of the hometown fans. He look good. Yeah,
look confident out there. It was so flimsy though. The
folks in Tampa try to make Cyburner feel feel like
a manor league ballpark. Oh, it's terrible spring training. It
felt like a spring training game. I felt the exact
same way the whole game. I was like, my my
subconscious was in spring training mode.

Speaker 11 (07:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
It was like, hey, who's gonna be running on the
outfield eventually? Like, how come this guy has his name
on the back of his jersey. Normally it's ninety nine
with no name on it. Yeah, and there's like strange
broadcasters calling the game, guys I've ever heard of their
work sate games. Yeah, it was Todd Callous and and
Jeff plump they were. It was must have been sweltering
in that press box, by the way. Yeah, they the melt.
The lads were glistening there. What they call it not

(08:12):
drop sweat is it was so they called flooring flop
sweat flops. They were flop sweating. And then the phone
lines must been melted, as the first two innings sounded
like hot garbage. Apparently there was a power outage or
a power surge. I mean, if we certainly can't speak
of technical errors around here, it would never happened up here.
That's something called the well oil machine. We got with
our internet phone lines and all the equipment are room

(08:33):
we don't even use and don't even know how to work.
They were battling through it. It was like a minor
league broadcast the first couple of innings on the phone. Hey,
I did an entire NBA game on the phone this year.
Everything web based. Just say, okay, don't get me started, start,
don't get let's not get ourselves started all. So eleven

(08:55):
o'clock today, Brian Bogus efficts be with us because tomorrow
he's on TV duty, okay, which means he cannot join
us tomorrow. So We're gonna have him at eleven o'clock today,
eleven thirty, we've got Gut Feelings at twelve o'clock with
the News at noon at twelve thirty we've got Joe Aspata,
and then Zach Decenzo is going to join us at
one thirty to day before that, we'll have NFL Rewind
with Ross at one twenty. Love it. I love having

(09:17):
Brian Bogus Evacon. He does a great job. But it's
like I'm getting tired to ask him every week what
the hell's going on with Christian Walker? Getting tired of
asking him every week, what the hell's going on with
you got r DS? What pains me is I wake
up in the morning, look at the box score, and
I go to the very far right side. Yes, where
So's ops. Those numbers just aren't increasing very much. They aren't,

(09:42):
They are not. It's fine, They're still winning games. That's
a good thing. Yeah, it will get better because it
freak pitching any worse. Right, I feel confident the pitching
can keep it going and then the hitting we'll get better.
But I also feel like I could have just played

(10:03):
your recording from the last two months, well month and
a half. I mean, and look, I give credit for Joe.
He's trying everything to mix the lineup up. I mean
he had essach Pretty's leading off yesterday. Yeah, Jose and
the two I mean, I mean, this is absolutely crazy.
It was two two days ago, right, two days ago.

(10:24):
That's why I'm looking at the wrong box score. Yeah, yesterday,
it was two days back. He got three hits and
then now two I was in the third spot, correct,
and that yesterday, yes, and he went over four with
a strikeout. And by the way, why, I mean, we
can talk about this. We got to get to a break.
But why is he getting booed lustily in Tampa Bay.
I'm gonna give you a generic general statement that doesn't

(10:44):
need to reply. Okay, you know how Lance mccullor's unfortunately
got some things said to him through social media and
his family, which was terrible and just shows you how
callous social media can be, especially the anonymity of it.

Speaker 12 (10:57):
M M.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
I got breaking newrail and it's not really breaking news wholesale, TUO,
but he's gotten a ten times worse for a much
longer period. Yeah. But I mean, it's twenty twenty five
and you're in Tampa Bay Why do they care? What
are they booing him for? Yankees? I get it, Dodgers,
I get it, Mariners to extent, I get it, Tampa
Bay Rays at Steinbrenner Field, shut Jobo, mess up. We

(11:20):
don't do that tomorrow. Oh I'm sorry, we're doing on Thursday.
Maybe we should do it today. No, our show is busy,
very busy, very busy. Thursday. Not so much we can
do on Thursday, All right?

Speaker 13 (11:31):
Ed?

Speaker 2 (11:31):
What every day is busy? MP jam packed. We're going
to entertain the hell out of you between two and
nine and two o'clock. I mean, will you trust us
on this? We will not let you down? Well, one
of us won't seven one three two one two five
seven naughty seven one three two one two five seven
nine zero. If you want to follow us on Twitter
at sports empt, at sports RV, and of course our

(11:53):
station address, and of course Instagram, the only account you
should follow is sports empt, what sports RV at Instagram? Please,
for the love of God, but you're now you're just
flat out begging. Yeah, I'm okay with that. I ain't
too proud of bed, sweet darling. I know you want
to leave me, but I refuse to let you go
at sports rmy on Instagram. All right, have you joined
the Jake Myers fan club? You know what we ought

(12:15):
to do? ROSSI here before we start really get going
on the show, is we need to when you have
a new member of a fan club, do you want
to take like an initiation, like an oath? No, because
when we had to just take when we had Wavebusters
remember our Wavebusters t shirt get together a couple of
years back, you had to take an oath about you
could never ever ever start the wave, be a part

(12:36):
of the wave. You can't worry, George. You have to
watch the game, just enjoy baseball as it is. If you,
I think we should create some sort of oath because
I feel like your fan club really gain steam between
say March twenty fifth and like June first, and then
after that it just falls off. Oh that was just
last year. This year, we're gonna sustain, all right, keep

(12:56):
it going SA seven one, three, one, two, five, seven,
ten twenty two on Sports Talk seven ninety. If you
would like to be a part of the radio program,
especially ten o'clockers, I feel like we have a two
different audiences. Are ten the noon is one audience? And
are noon to two is another audience. So you twelve o'clockers,
come on, and we're here everyday at ten o'clock. You

(13:16):
may be fair to some people tune in the whole time,
and we appreciate them. If you're if you're a twenty
hour week person, I wish we'll give you something. I'm
not even twenty hours a week. I know I work
with you. I've seen you. You go into a day by
the light twelve shout out to my guys, my ems, guys.
I talked to you yesterday at the gas station. Okay,
I was no, Yes, that's funny if you bring that up.

(13:38):
I was getting gas at a Kingwood gas station yesterday.
Oh no, gas station nachos and you had to call
nine one one. Speaking of that, We're not doing I
just don't get it. This week got draw go back
to the MP. So these two guys, and this shows
you how awesome are our listening base is and how
long they listen. Yes, and these two guys are in
the Matt I forgot thee other guy's name. I'm hold

(14:00):
forgetting that person's thing. Oh of course you remember the
guy named Matt, Well, that was It's yeah, I totally
understand that. They said, hey, it's not giving a sports
empty curse if I drive by.

Speaker 11 (14:09):
You, is it?

Speaker 2 (14:10):
I said, okay, oh geez, and I went up and
talked to him. But it was nice, a couple of
nice guys that we talked about their lives and my
lives and how busy their lives. Uick are you cause
it's a situation where you don't want to be there forever.
You're just trying to get gas and get to work.
This was at night. Okay, My wife and I went
and had dinner, but I wanted to get some lottery
tickets and then pump some guys. You do well, you're
here so I could have been that, well I have.

(14:31):
I used the app and one of them says I
won seven dollars, but I spent ten, so I'm out three.
Another one I can't get to go through. So all right,
back to the nachos thing. I enjoy nachos, not as
much as Chris Gordy. Chris Gordy eats nachos more than
any other person I've ever met in my entire life.

(14:51):
We're at like a high end steakhouse and he's like, yes,
I'll have the nachos. He orders nachos at barbecue places. Yes,
he orders na choices at Rennie's, Yes, wing places, at
wing Places, at Bybop, Yes he's he's a twenty four
to seven nacho guy. Did you see who now has nachos?
PF Changs and he was trying to get nachos? Well,
it's funny. Yeah, he was any Ann's Dumpling House and

(15:16):
wanted some nacho's. Not any end, it's any something else.
But moving on? Do you see who else this guy
is selling nachos?

Speaker 14 (15:21):
Now?

Speaker 2 (15:22):
Who rubway rubway? Yes, foot long things of nachos, foot
long rubway okay, for the sake of keeping this clean subway?
Who doesn't spend a dollar with us nachos? I don't

(15:42):
even want a sandwich from there? First, I have not
seen it in person. I saw the commercial for it.
First of all, you know there's great deli meats. It's
not even good, so but you're helping that. Never get
a dollar for subway over this stashes, thank you Ross.
So they sell the foot long churos, which I'm probably
in for foot long chocolate chip cookie. The foot long

(16:03):
sub okay, but they're now I saw a TV commercial
for a foot long for the foot long nachos, which
basically just a long plate of nachos covered up. And
think about it. If you go to chips, do they
serve tortilla and they have the cheese? I mean they
just melt it on your chips. I'm really scared to
google this. You can put olives on it. I'm sure
they've got pecante, saucer salt. I guess if you're in

(16:26):
like Columbus, Ohio, this is acceptable. You cannot order this
in Houston, Texas. You should be banished from the steak.
So well, we will put it new it. It was doritos,
that's what I figured. Yeah, it's doritos, Matt. Was it
covered with nacho cheese?

Speaker 15 (16:42):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (16:42):
Huh? Jalapinos? And I don't know, various you did not
put roast beef on your nachos? Why not? That's discussed.
It was a black forest ham. Can I get some
slice circuy Brests on that place too? To salad? So
here's what we'll do. If any of you know, I

(17:04):
just don't do it. Oh you're sick. If any of
you have gotten the dorito nachos from Bubb Bay, what
is on this I can't even tell what the kind
of meat this. You're not putting Deli meats on your nachos.
I'm sorry. You could put ground beef. You can put
the heat of meat you actually might be like from
their steak and cheese. You could do steak and cheese

(17:25):
down there, yeah you could. You could also the chopped
up chicken too. You could do that. This is disturbing,
but I wouldn't do it. I'm just saying I'm not
going to do it. This is sick. You can't tell
what kind of meat this is. Yeah, I think it's
from their steak and cheese. I mean they have onions
and alopanos and tomatoes already. I could guacamole looks hard,

(17:48):
and they do sung guacamole there too. I fus, I
don't eat so that's good. Don't eat subway guacamole. Okay,
well that's I used to not eat guacamole when I
was younger, but that's because I just realized you have
to be discerning about which guacamole you eat. Yeah, there's
good walk and there's bad qualk man. Uh yeah, and
I'm going to go with see none of the above.
I want none of it. I told you I'm gonna
bring you to my mom. She makes the bestqualk mill

(18:09):
in the world. And you know what, because I love
your mother more than you, I will I will take
a taste of it. Okay, Josh in the Woodland's giving
him online one. Can you do that for me real quick?
He says. He went to the Josh, did you eat
the subway not Joe? Yes or no?

Speaker 16 (18:22):
So not only did I eat them, I invented them.
These have been around for twenty plus years with the
employees there.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 16 (18:28):
So the way that they charge employees is based on
the bread. So if you don't get bread, you only
get charged for chips. So employees would dump the chips
on the deli paper, cover it in cheese, covered in chicken, jullapinos,
all the vikings, put that in the toast, rubin, pull
it out, slather it with chiplet and you were set.

Speaker 17 (18:47):
Man.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
So that's been around for twenty plus years. Oh wow,
Now see that's acceptable if you're an employee trying to
get over on your employer. I'm alright with that, actually,
but that hasn't been make sense. He didn't, but he
didn't go in there and go, hey, I saw the
commercial for it. I want to buy it. Okay, we
have somebody else after the break, Yes, ten twenty nine

(19:07):
Sports Talk seven nine eight is the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross.

Speaker 14 (19:13):
Ross.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
If we were playing a game of charades, you are
two for two. I'm pretty good. I feel like at charades. Yeah,
because I don't have the other one heads up on
the phone, I'm I'm great at headset. So let's feel
a curmack for five seconds. So I don't have my
script in front of me of what are if your
computer's not at all that the show shut up? So
I said, what was our first ad to day? And

(19:35):
he gave me the perfect graphic for what Rise Health
was and gesture and gesture which I thought, which you
can't do in front of other people, but you did
in front of me and I got it. Yes. And
then number two you said, uh, let's go for a swim,
let's go hang out at the Two Creeks Crossing Resort,
which we're going to do right now for streets and
on the phones about the nachos at jubb ray website. Okay,

(20:05):
So why the show has been where it's at all
these years? Stuck in the mud, of middays. First of all,
I'm never doing morning drive again. Okay, that's never gonna happen.
In the afternoon drive. I got too much stuff going on. Okay, well,
i'll see you later. I'm telling you, I don't think

(20:25):
you're opened a morning drive. I think it just it
sucks the life out of you, dude. I mean, of course,
the money is good, you're gonna do it. I can't
hear you. Did I hear you say? I'm wanting to
listen to anything anybody. Okay, make me an offer. Let's see.
Let's see where the jobs are looking at these days.

(20:47):
All right, so mid days in Houston or morning drive
in Duluth. It's funny you say that there's a job
opening Duluth right now. Okay, send it oever my resume.
I give you a recommendation. Thank you. May not be
a good one, but I'll give you the recommend Montana
has a spot open. What do you even do?

Speaker 17 (21:10):
Well?

Speaker 2 (21:10):
Duluth is easy? You just you just pretend you're in
Minneapolis and you do a show. Aberdeen, South Dakota. Same thing, huh, okay,
because it's because well, you know, look, Golden State Valkyrie's
play by plays open, Matt, it's already been closed. Oh,
not that I was looking for it, but I'm just
saying it was like, yeah, it sounds like you heard

(21:31):
back already. Oh no, no, no, I'm playing busy here.
I gotta be heard you. I don't want you complaining
about me being gone as much as I am. Yeah,
you wouldn't want me anything. It's like a thirty game season, right,
Too bad. That'd be a little odd me doing the
play of another the other team's NBA Women's and me
doing the rockets, a lot of missed layups. Okay, that's

(21:56):
enough from you. Roger on seven ninety good morning.

Speaker 17 (22:01):
Good morning, Matt.

Speaker 18 (22:02):
So on the subway, on the scrubway, nachos, so you know,
the scrub that should never be on anybody to go
go to lists. That's that's that goes without saying so.
But I live in a Sometimes you work the workload
is such that you cannot get the options are very limited.

(22:23):
And I'm right here off of I can and boss
and right next to I thay Loss is a home
depot park, which is there's a subway adjacent to it.
And then I'll work in the business park right next
to it. Times of options, you're limited and you got
to go and do what you gotta do. Exctin you
run out of gas. Sometimes you just got to go
to gas is. So I get there and you and

(22:44):
you know, the lady did very nice and friendly and
very you know efficient with the way we do things.
And you know, they put you know, they put the
for heat on meat or they can subject you for
chicken heater or whatever it's like a chicken or for
or for heat on meat type of due. But it's
not bad. It's not bad. It's definitely doable. It's very

(23:06):
I was surprised actually by the way. It's by the
way they either sandwiches or what they are.

Speaker 9 (23:13):
Uh.

Speaker 18 (23:14):
Yeah, it's not bad. It's doable in a pinch.

Speaker 2 (23:18):
Okay, well, thank you for the update on that. Thanks Roger,
Thank you, Roger. Look, I have gone to I have
a rubway next to my house, very close to it.
I shouldn't stop saying rubway. Uh, you should very much
stop saying rubway. Dub Bay. I have a dub bay
close to my house. And you know what if if
it's nine thirty at night and you're hungry and you know,
nothing in the refrigerator and you you don't want to

(23:39):
go down to the main intersect. Close and convenient, and
it gets the job done when you need it to.
Like Davison, No, Galveston to me is a destination. It's
a place I pack and go. Hey, we're looking. Hey, everybody,
We're going to Galveson. Yes, let's go, let's have a
good time. Maybe you're in Houston, but nobody else in
the whole country. You know what, it's our little that's
our little paradise. Then sorry, Minneapolis, you can't have it.

(24:00):
Sorry Portland, you don't get it. That's because it's convenient.
It was four hours away, you wouldn't go. Uh, not true,
it was if it was fourteen miles away, then maybe
you're right. But every pocket of the country has that.
I'm sure there's some beaches in South Carolina that aren't appealing,
but they go because it's close. I'm sure not every
beach in Florida is spectacled. Would you intentionally go to

(24:22):
Panama City if you if you had to, if you
wanted to. It's nothing but forty eight rapplereas around there.
What's wrong with Panama City? The beaches look nice, don't they.
I have been. It's a little congested, little little w
t w T. Okay, yeah, we'll be going with this.
I don't remember. Oh yeah you Rubway Nachosubway sub I'm sorry,

(24:47):
Web say nachos there. They're in a pinch and you
should enjoy it.

Speaker 17 (24:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (24:52):
So you know what I'm gonna do next time I
go there, I'm gonna get the nachos and I'll give
you a full report. I'm good. I don't need it.
I already know what if I what I if I
bring you some lunch on Thursday sounds like a pile
of miid Well, I love a pile of mid out there.
Ten forty on Sports Talk seven ninety again, we'll have
Brian Becus. I'm joining us coming up in about twenty
minutes from now. Joe Spot at twelve thirty today and

(25:14):
they highly google believe it or not, believe it or
not at one to fifty. NFL that's going to let
players play flag football. Hey, you're ruining NFL. Rewind, that's
a one twenty. Oh. I feel like we could bring
it up again. Okay, fine, Uh. Well, as I said before,
the Olympic Games in itself have made a mockery of

(25:36):
all the things they've allowed. Why you didn't like breakdancing?
That chick from Australia was hilarious. You don't think when
they were in Athens back in the seventeen hundreds they
were thinking about concocting a flag football game at the Parthenon,
they're probably beat boxing. Now. Breakdancing came down from on
high on zeus now zeus. Now, just to ma make

(25:58):
sure I'm very clear, I mean complete a percent hypocrite
on this because I love beach volleyball very much. Okay,
so I watched If there's anything I watched more of,
it was the beach volleyball in the indoor than any
Why do you watch so much beach volleyball? Because it's athleticism.
It's a very few Christine, Oh Christine, what uh? San

(26:25):
Santiago from Brazil? You should have gone with Santos. That
is a Brazilian name. I mean it's more Spanish, but
I'm sure there's some Santiago's in Brazil. Okay. Point being
is this You just can't sell track and field swimming
and what else? What else is the true gymnastics has

(26:47):
been a long time when you had incorporated bad badminton,
you've had incorporated table tennis, hand ball, not any question.
What is it to synchronize swimming? Love it all every
four years? So basically what we're talking about is the
Olympics is what every other sports that we actually cover
on a regular basis is just a way to make
additional money. Right, nobody was thirsting for flag football? Help me, connected, duns,

(27:13):
Why did the Olympics decide to add flag football? OS?
Are you more apt to watch handball or flag football
with people that you recognize? With NFL players, I'm probably
at flag football. And guess what those Olympic people are
gonna do. They're going to sell the television rights to say, hey,
you can buy commercial inventor adjacent to flag football, make

(27:35):
the package more attractive to NBC slash Peacock. I was
locked in on Peacock and the Olympics. We're gonna be
watching a lot of Peacock this year with the NBA
on Peacock. Yes, ANFL action on Peacock's exclusive late in
the year. I think, well, Premier League of course as well.
And if you're a big fan of Notre Dame football,
think at least one or two games will be on

(27:57):
Peacock huge can't wait to watch the p Is that
what the kids call it? I don't think so, not
at all. So you're again are you? Are you a
big old can of indifference on this?

Speaker 15 (28:13):
No?

Speaker 2 (28:13):
I think it's cool. Why not? I'm gonna tell you
this right now. This is hipocrisy number two. I'm going
to watch it. Yeah, See, you're a hypocrite. I'm saying,
bring it on. I want to watch Lamar Jackson making
spin moves and run touchdowns if he plays. You know what,
I am all for flag football at the Olympics as

(28:35):
long as no Texans play. Why why not? Because I
don't hate the Texans. No, I don't hate the Texans
at all. I know our fan base that listens to
show loves the Texans, so we're gonna take care of
those folks. I would like a quarterback with some more mobility,
so our friend CJ. Stroud will go ahead and put
him on the bench, but I would, But a mobility
is who If you're Baltimore and Lamar wants to play,

(28:56):
Not only are you saying no, you're saying hell no.
I might have to look at their contacts. Can I
put this? I'll save this for the gut feeling. Oh okay,
twenty okay, we'll say it. Fortyvens. Write that down. Matt
has a gut feeling on it, has a good feeling,
and wrote it on flight. Fack, you didn't write it down.
I saw you nothing type it all. Wait, you're in
the room. I know seven one three, two one two five,

(29:18):
seven nineties how you reach a program? Say, that's one
benefit of me not being this So I say, hey,
remember this is coming up, and then you go, yeah,
I'm I didn't lie to you as easily. No, you're
a much better liar when I'm on the road. And
you seem to be proud of that too. I'm not
proud of all, Matt. These are These are lads. This
is the laughter of shame. It is laughter of embarrassment.

(29:40):
Just look at yourself. You gotta be You're a pathetic self,
is what you are. You can't even lie in my
face properly. Again, it's easier to lie when I'm not
in the studio with you. Ten forty four on Sports
Talk seven nineties. You know what I looked at because
I am obsessed with standings. So the Mariners won again

(30:02):
last night. You know, they you know, they swept San
Diego over the weekend. Yeah, they won four in a row.
Now I imagine, Yeah, they have won four consecutive games, which
makes me unhappy. And then on top of that, so
the Astros are still two and a half games out
of first place in the American League West. Okay, that's
no big wolf rank, no big whol. By the way,
the Mariners are playing the White Sox in Chicago. That's

(30:23):
gonna be a sweep for the Mariners. Yet didn't sweep
the White Sox, so they didn't capitalize on their opportunity.
So you can't get mad at the Mariners if they
capitalize on their opportunity. Okay, whatever, so they have. We've
been bemoaning the fact that this is a one trick
pony in the American League West American League West Division.
But I stand to be corrected on this. I went

(30:45):
look at the wild card standings. Okay, the Astros are
a half game out of the last wild card. The
three world cards right now in the American League are Minnesota,
Kansas City, and Cleveland, and they're all set raided by
less than a game. So there are seventh out of
fifteen in one league they're one half game behind the

(31:08):
Cleveland Guardians for the last wildcard spot. They're still mid.
I mean, you're seventh out of fifteen, but I mean,
look at how close you are to getting into the
wild coverage. So I'm going to buy here now. Never
bring up the fact that the Astros in the American
League West is a one team bit, because it's not
going to be if these wildcard teams kind of stay
where they are, and I wouldn't think they were going

(31:30):
to that somebody's gonna leap. But to think that three
teams are gonna leap and get into fifteen sixteen games
about five hundred, well, the Astros are kind of hanging
around five hundred. No, I don't believe it at all.
It's all by the way, American Central team. It's all
Central teams. How about the Boston Red Sox who went
and spent forty million dollars on our good friend Alex Bregman,

(31:50):
who's playing well. It's playing well, So that's money, Wellson,
money weall spent. They are under five hundred and twenty
four and twenty five. That is a astonishing to me.
Not another team. I mean, the dever situation is turned
ugly correct. I mean he doesn't know where he wants
to play. And they went and got a second They
went and call up a second base. Yeah, the first

(32:10):
baseman got hurt. They wanted to play first, and then
he said no. I don't know what the latest on
that is. He said, he said, anybody got time I play?
I don't want to play. Wee I lately. So I
don't know what the latest is on that, but looks
like you, at least in their last game, he's still
d hing. Yeah. Red Sox last night beat the Mets
by a score of three to one. Bragman in the

(32:31):
game went one for three with an RBI and a
Walks was on base twice. He is still his OPS
is still I got to add it up here. Fifteen Okay,
thank you. So I don't know if if he likes
playing in Boston, keep it too, go two more years.

(32:52):
If the OPS is nine to fifty five, he's opted out.
But I think his numbers will go down. So we
shouldn't even make a legitimate's bet on that about whether
he stays or goes. You want to, I don't know.
I'm just saying throwing it out there. You know what
I'll do I'll take it. I'll say that he can
kracka tibia and then opt in. I mean, who knows
what's gonna happen. Well, okay, let's do this. Then if

(33:13):
he plays one hundred and forty games or more, okay,
does that seem fair? Sure? Meaning he's probably avoids a
disabled an injure list at some point this year? Uh huh,
what's the bet? I say that if he even even
if he even if he plays one hundred and forty
games or more. Now I can't say about his batting, averager, slugging,

(33:34):
or if he goes in any sort of slump. He
will slump at some point, I believe. I say he
stays with with the Celtics, with the Red Sox for
at least one more year. He could, because he's got
opt outs after every year. Yeap, because he is on
the other side of thirty. Not the wrong side, but
the other side. The wrong side ain't the winning side
usually most guys. By the way, we have spent a

(33:57):
lot of time talking about how television dictates putting on
a lot of the New York LA Chicago teams because
they draw on We always tease it Sunday Night Baseball
as usually either the Yankees, the Mets, the Red Sox,
or the Cubs in some combination. Huh, maybe a sprinkle
of braves. The Subway Series finale on Sunday Night Baseball

(34:17):
had two point five four million viewers. That is the
largest audience for any Sunday night game since August of
twenty eighteen, really just two and a half million. So
it seems that's how I saw it from you as well.
One that's not a super large number, but two, if

(34:39):
you're going to put a baseball game on your models,
well put on a game that's going to be a
rivalry game that really people can gravitate to. And I
would say that if all the matchups among the rivalry
weekend last year, that the Mets and Yankees seem to
be the one that you should put on the television.
And that's what they did. But that's the highest Sunday
night game since twenty eighteen. That's two point five to

(35:01):
four million people. No wonder. ESPN's like, I'm good with this.
I can live without that. Because let's put something in perspective.
What does a Let's take a look at what American
idol ratings are and so is that Is American Isle
still a thing? I think so. I think they're in
the season seventy six, which they have all these shows,

(35:23):
The Voice, American Idol, What America's got talent? Right right, right,
right right? How many of these people have become superstars?
Like two? Well, okay, let's think about it. I don't
watch The Voice. Has anybody made a superstar? I'm off
of the Voice. I don't know? Okay. In twenty twenty three,

(35:43):
have you heard of Cassidy Pope?

Speaker 15 (35:46):
No?

Speaker 2 (35:46):
The first Okay, this is just okay. I just happened
to look up. I just put American Idol ratings on Twitter.
In twenty twenty three, the first episode of the season
for American Idol drew five point one million. But that's
also on ABC. That's not a cable network. Okay, that
cable We gonna do housewives or something that's actually a
bad idea a live event. Okay, let's go back to
the original points. Okay, Who's become stars? Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson,

(36:12):
Dawtrey something or other here most famous the Voice contestants,
according to Google, Danielle Bradbury, Nope, Jordan Smith Nope, Sawyer
Frederick's Nope. Oh, Morgan Whalen, he's famous, he is famous.
Melanie Martinez Nope. Christina Greamy. Maybe we're just out of touch. Yeah,

(36:35):
that's not our demo. That's we ask our twenty two
year old. He's busy. I think he's busy. Dam his
girl right now. That's like all right. Brian Bogus seven
will join to start of the second hour of the show.
You laugh about over there, I didn't anything funny at
all seven one three two, And that's what I've said
that plenty of times in my life as well. Seven

(36:56):
one three two, one two five seven ninety seven one
three two on to five seven ninety Look at me
when I'm pointing at you to get the second hour
of the Matt Thomas Show at ross and you have
checked out? What is wrong with you? Are you a chip?
I'm in the casino mote all right. Normally we get
to visit with Brian BOGASVC on Wednesdays, but we have
a shorter show tomorrow because the Astros have a game

(37:18):
a twelve to ten first pitch in Tampa tomorrow. Plus
Brian go Bogus evs becoming a major television star and
Space City Home Network last night the Astros. How about this.
We're sitting here in late May, and that is crazy,
Brian Bogus, I think that was the first back to
back road victories of the Local nine this year.

Speaker 17 (37:37):
Yeah, apparently you can do that. You can go out
and win two in a row when you're not playing
at home. Just found that out.

Speaker 2 (37:43):
How about that? You tell me, Nu Geran. You all
of us were not in Tampa yesterday, but we've all
been to starbur Interfield before. It's a nice spring training
ballpark and they try to put lipstick on the pig.
But it still had a very gimmicky spring training feel
even as we were watching it on your network last night.

Speaker 17 (38:00):
Yeah, it just you know, doesn't look the same, especially
you get some of the high shots and then you
know there's nothing in the background behind the stadium. It
just it looks weird. And you know, in terms of
you know, spring training ballparks, it's about as nice as
you can get, and those fields play so differently when
it warms up versus early in the spring. I've been

(38:23):
down to do some rehabbing in the spring and summer
months down in Florida at times, and it's like, oh man,
the ball doesn't fly like this in spring training, so
there's going to be some crazy numbers put up at
that field once it really warms up.

Speaker 2 (38:37):
You know, there was a huge not a question mark,
but a huge bit of uncertainty about Eastsik Preddies. I mean,
you've had Alex Bregman at the corner spot for all
the years, home runs, macho defense, the gold gloves, the
big hits, and we just didn't know because he had
been well traveled Tampa, Chicago to Houston. Tell me if

(39:00):
you remember what you thought of Estach when the trade
went down, and what you think of him now that
we've seen him wear an Astro's gear for the last
couple of months. Yeah.

Speaker 17 (39:08):
I mean, I don't think I've enjoyed watching anybody more
this season than Ethok Parades. He's one of those guys who,
having the chance to watch him every day, you can
really appreciate how good he is. And I knew that
the hitter profile kind of matched up right a pull, heavy,
right handed power hitter. Obviously it plays well here at home,

(39:32):
but it's more than that. It's how well he works
at back and controlled the strike zone. It's how often
he takes information from one at bat and immediately applies
it to a next that bat. You know, he hit
that walk off home run on the home stand and
basically hunted a pitch that he saw in and at

(39:52):
bat the night before off of that reliever. He hit
a home run, you know, right before they left at
the end of the home fan in his second at
bat of a game, and it was hunting the pitch
that he was attacked with in his first at bat.
And it's just like how slowly the game moves, how
cerebrally he works his at backs. You know, you think

(40:14):
of poll hitter, and the first connotation is, well, he's
going to be super aggressive, he's going to cheat, he's
going to swing early, he's going to be you know,
just opening up and trying to let it fly. Is
probably going to chase a ton. It couldn't be more opposite.
It's just a guy who who knows what he has
to look for in order to make his swing work,
and he executes his at bats as consistently as you

(40:37):
know anybody I've seen.

Speaker 2 (40:39):
He has been the power source of this team in
recent days. The middle of the lineup I mean, bogy,
you know, you're not supposed to win baseball games on
the road when you're three four five hitters combined to
go over twelve I did last night.

Speaker 11 (40:52):
No, And.

Speaker 17 (40:55):
It's weird to while you know, we do. We look
at the box score every day and postgame show, and
when it pops up and you see the four O
four O four right in the middle, it's like, man,
how did we how do we even get by with this?
But they've been figuring it out. I mean, a lot
of it has to do with how good the bottom
half of the lineup has been, how consistently good they've been.
And of course now you got Paena and Parades yesterday

(41:17):
bunched up at the top, so you do have a
little bit of length from turning the bottom over and
getting to the top. But I mean, you're not going
to consistently produce runs and consistently win if you're not
getting anything out of three four five, And guys got
to get going. You've got to get jord On back,
you know, having him healthy and in the middle of

(41:38):
that somewhere will certainly go a long way. But it
would be nice to see the big backs, you know,
go off we need some games where the offense just
carries the team. Give these pitchers a little bit of
breathing room.

Speaker 2 (41:49):
You mentioned the back end of the lineup, Cam Smith
a part of that. Nine hits in his last seven games.
What have you seen from him?

Speaker 17 (41:56):
Really competitive at bats? It's it's it's hard when you're
a young player who's working on things which you know
we've talked about. You know, all the adjustments that he's
trying to make, trying to get started a little bit earlier,
trying to move his contact point to go into the
game and not be thinking about mechanical adjustments, right, and
if you're if you're trying to take cage swings into

(42:18):
a live that bat like you are dead. And he's
done a great job of going out there and he
just competes and it's not always perfect, but he's always
going to battle.

Speaker 2 (42:28):
You know, he's got he's.

Speaker 17 (42:29):
Got a pretty good handle on the strike zone. He's
working his walks, he's getting pitching. He's not missing mistakes too.
You know, when when he gets a hanging breaking ball
or a hanging change up like he did yesterday, he's
on that pitch and he hits it hard and he's
living off that he's shooting the fact ball the other way,
So he has a pretty good idea of what he's
able to handle right now, and he's just out there

(42:49):
competing his butt off, which is all you can ask
from a young player, you know, put in the work
early and then just go out there and figure out
how to try how to get on base.

Speaker 2 (42:57):
Brian bogas Sievic was here on a sports talk set
ninety jord and Alvarez still not in the lineup, just
in general, the hand injury. What do you know about
what you've heard about it and how does that exactly
affect him, and obviously they are trying to limit the
possibility of reinjury, taking it slow with him. Yeah, I
don't I don't know much about this injury.

Speaker 17 (43:19):
You know, like it's like a strained muscle in the
top of the head. Typically when when you think of
hand injury, you know, hand being sore, it's from getting
jammed and kind of the inside of your hand blows
up and swells up. But that's not what it sounds
like he's dealing with. So, you know, I don't really know.
I don't have a good handle on what it is.
He's feeling.

Speaker 11 (43:38):
But I do know this.

Speaker 17 (43:40):
If your hands are compromised, it's going to be really
difficult to hit. It's not like I've got a sore
ankle or my back's a little tight. I'm going to
fight through this. You got to get it to one
hundred percent because number one, you're just not going to
be the same. Your back speed's not going to be
the same, your control of the barrel's not going to
be the same. You can very easily fall into some

(44:00):
bad habits trying to overcompensate. And you know, especially when
we're only a quarter of the way through the season,
you know, getting to ninety percent and then getting out
there is not a good idea. You want to get
it to one hundred percent. So number one, he's right,
and also that he stays right and it's not something
that has to deal with for you know, four hundred
at bats moving forward.

Speaker 2 (44:21):
When he does come back, and Keratini and Diaz have
been the lineup at the exact same time a lot
in the last week or so, one dhing and one catching,
would do you think the Astros should catch carry that
third catcher as a backup plan or do you think
that you go back to the two catcher system, and
they have got going.

Speaker 17 (44:36):
You know, I've thought about this a bit. I think
you're they're probably going to go back to the two
catcher system. And Jill has actually been, you know, as
willing as any manager to use Keratini in either a
DH roll or a pinch hit role even when they
carry two catchers, and I think it's probably wise to
continue doing so. He's just he's honestly, he's added a lot,

(45:00):
He's added a lot of balance to the lineup. He's
added a lot of good at bats in the lineup.
It's going to be difficult to try to sandwich, you know,
try to force him in there, because the DH spot
is probably going to be occupied more often than not
between one of Jordan and Jose Altuve. But if you
can get you know, at the very least some decent
pinch hit opportunities, I mean, Kartini has been you know,

(45:23):
up there with with the Jeremy Peneyes and the Jake
Myers of guys who've given consistent at bats. So I
don't think they'll carry the third catcher just because you
have to make a move that you probably don't want
to make to facilitate that, but I think you can
still find ways to get Karatini at bats.

Speaker 2 (45:40):
Brian. You know, look, this Astro team has won three
of their last four and back to back row games
talked about, and they're getting a little bit over five
hundred and still very very competitive in the American League
West and now the wild card chase as well. But
if there's been anything that's been consistent this entire season,
it's been the fact that the offense has been absent
more time than has been present. So what does the
manager do. He shakes a lineupupp he uses different guys,

(46:02):
he changes guys in a batting order. You have been
in that major league clubhouse before, you have been going
to the ballpark and seeing your name in different spots
in the lineup. Does that where on a player on
a team?

Speaker 14 (46:15):
Or do you?

Speaker 2 (46:15):
Or does the player sometimes have to understand that, Hey,
look we've gone through a thirty forty to fifty game stretch.
We're not producing like we think we should. I don't
blame my skipper for making these adjustments on a day
to day basis.

Speaker 11 (46:28):
Now.

Speaker 17 (46:28):
I think for the vast majority of players, they understand
and are fine with things like that. You know, especially
when you're given a long enough leash, you don't want
to see a manager making panic moves or to feel
like he's just kind of, you know, throwing shots in
the dark to try to get something, when there's thought
behind it, when there's communication behind it. I mean, everybody,

(46:50):
everybody in the clubhouse knows who's slinging it well, who's not,
who's struggling, who's starting to come out of it. So really,
what you want to know as a player, you know,
when am I playing, how consistently am I going to
be in the lineup? So I know how to prepare
and then where you're at in the lineup that really
doesn't matter so much. And when you have the leader

(47:11):
of the team switching positions and moving from the leadoff
spot to the two hole now to the three hole,
who I can't imagine anybody is really going to speak
up and say, hey, I'm not okay with this moving
around when you've got jose Al Tube being perfectly fine
with it and.

Speaker 2 (47:25):
Speaking moving around and wrap up our conversation. One of
the things that we've talked about on this show about
why this team is as competitive as they are despite
the fact the offense and not been great is because
the pitching has been good. The bullpen's been outstanding. The defense,
Brian has been fantastic. Especially when you've got two corner
outfielders that have never played the position before, you haven't
been able to settle on second base. I mean, that's

(47:46):
usually a recipe for being a bottom third team in baseball,
and the Astros have kind of bucked that trend.

Speaker 17 (47:52):
No, and the defense I think has really flown under
the radar at not just how they've They've been solid
all around, been spectacular at times. And you know, Parades
and Walker being added at the corner. Walker is really
good over there at first base, and a good first
baseman makes everybody in the endfield better. Parades has been
more than expected. Defensively, I mean, we knew he was solid,

(48:15):
but his seat and his movement in short spaces is
even better. And in the outfield, I mean, al Tuovey
has been fine. You know, he hasn't had any of
the plays like he did in spring training where it's
been like, oh man, that's kind of a disaster type
of play. And Cam Smith, I can't tell you how
impressed I am with him. He's gone from Okay, he's
getting the hang of it. He looks pretty good out

(48:37):
there in right field to he is a very good
right fielder.

Speaker 2 (48:40):
I mean he.

Speaker 17 (48:40):
Covers a ton of ground, he can throw, he's in
good positions. You know, he's thinking about where the ball
needs to go as he's approaching the ball to get
himself in a good throwing position. So yeah, the defense
has been really good, and that's that's one of the
things that has what the Astros have been when they've
been really good, has been solid fundamentally on defense. And

(49:03):
it really shows up when you get teams that come
into town who aren't and then you notice what it
looks like when it seems not very good. And we've
seen a defense this year that that has been really
really good.

Speaker 2 (49:14):
Christ stuff is always my friend. Thanks for the adjustment
and time, looking forward watching you the rest of this
week on Space Sitting. We will talk again next week.
A guy, you got it. That's Brian Bogasvik with us
here on Sports Talk seven. Honey, all right, we got
gut feelings coming up at the bottom of the hour,
and uh, we need to make a gut feeling about now.
I already know how I feel about the Western Conference Playoffs.

(49:36):
I have Oklahoma City winning. I think probably my guess
is that I have not seen the series odds, and
you you are a partic. I've seen the series and price.
I believe it's minus three hundred. I can go check
on that. Now we're going to be three to one.
I don't want those that don't give away our company secrets,
but we're gonna be way one. We're gonna be in
a place today we can actually legally bet on the

(49:57):
NBA game, but you know I cannot because I'm an
and be employee. I'm sorry, three fifty it's up to
so I have to live vicariously through you. So three
and a half the one that means if they yeah,
Oklahoma City is a seven and a half point favorite.
That's weird because Minnesota's been the one that's rested. Thunder
just got off an a grueling seven game series they

(50:18):
played Sunday. They've only gotten one day saying, I mean, yeah,
the over under US two seventeen and a half. That
feels low. Two good defensive teams. So if I could
bet it, which I can't, I would No. I you know,
I probably shouldn't tell you what I think about it.

(50:40):
Why not? You don't. Nobody thinks you got inside information
under I just thought, don't want to, like, you know,
a Asilber to NBA dot com Mallams in the audio.
Already they're trying to get me fired every now. No
I need no, no, I need you. Just keep that job.
There's a cruel street. Can you that a few people

(51:01):
ever see? Oh, I'm sorry, I just said I want
you to keep your job. What you said, keep that job? Yeah?
That people heard of that part. I don't think it's
the issue. So if I was legally allowed to bet
the game, I probably would bet Timberwolves plus seven and
a half and I would probably take the over a
two seventeen and an Okay, what if you don't make
the better as an NBA employee. What if you and I,

(51:22):
like Broski's, were at the bar and we bet what
have we bet? A pint of beer on it? A
pint from it tal your brewing?

Speaker 3 (51:28):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (51:28):
Yeah, of course I That's what I'm going with. I
would take Timberwolves plus seven and a half and I
would take the over two seventeen and a half would
be Mike would be my NBA fanboy analysis. Okay, you
agreer disagree. I'm gonna go with a thunder in the under.
So you're taking me the exact opposite of what I'm going.

(51:50):
We'll come. It's call it the fade MT Parlay. You
know what, if you faded me over the years, you
probably did pretty well for yourself. It's about fifty to
fifty doesn't like anyone else. Yeah, what do they say?
If you're fifty five percent, you're really good at when
you two and a half is where you make money?
Uh depend, I mean if you're getting regular juice on everything.
But yeah, sixty percent you're elite. Obviously, when I hear

(52:12):
that if I make a if I make one hundred
predictions on a game, and this is anybody, whether it's
a sports personality or just a regular sports fan, wouldn't
you think fifty five out of one hundred, you'd get
fifty five out of one hundred, right? But the problem
is no, you throw in the point spread, and that's
where everything gets kind of disjointed. If I bet, if

(52:37):
I bet, if I made one hundred predictions, just straight up,
could I get fifty five?

Speaker 15 (52:42):
Right?

Speaker 2 (52:42):
I would think I could, right straight up? I would imagine, Yeah,
you'd be fine. But man, the whole line that and
that's why Vegas was made. It was built for the points.
They're good and they're getting even better. They got all
these models and algorithms, all that type of stuff. If
you're if they turn out that you're winning better, they
start cutting you off faster. Yeah, they don't. They don't
want you to go enjoy yourself. They want they'll take

(53:03):
they will. They will give you some money within reason.
They reserve the right. It's not illegal for you to win.
But they reserve the right to refuse your action. And
by the way, if you walk in with a ten
thousand dollars bet, the alarms are going off. Yeah they will.
They'll phone calls will be made. That's why you get
beards to do it. That's why, like some big betters,
they would get like uh, celebrities or whoever to go

(53:25):
make the bets. Phil Michelson like where he got tied
up with Billie Walters, he was making bets for him.
And because they won't take Billy Walter's bets, but they'll
take Phil Nickerson's bets. It is kind of sinister, isn't
it In some respects. I think if you're you know what?
No if by who on the better side or on
the casino side, casino side, Yes, on the casino side.

(53:46):
If I'm a better and you take action from one
hundred dopes and I'm a winner, and you should take
my action too, my friends don't put it out there.
And I'm not trying to humble brag here. Okay, but
I could make a ten thousand dollars bet today if
I want it. Oh wow, you are well. I could
make it one hundred dollars bet today. If I couldn't
do anything about anything that was in the bank game
not gonna, I'd have to go into my deep, into

(54:07):
my savings. I wouldn't do it because that I would
be It'd be stupid. I'd be a wreck. I mean you,
I wouldn't even want to be anywhere. See that. Actually,
no chance I get I lose my You know what,
when I'm betting one hundred dollars at the table, when
I'm playing blackjack, that's how I'm coomfortable. I'm about higher numbers.
But if I'm a regular old Joshmo, which I can

(54:28):
I think I am, I could go to the ATM,
go get or the bank and get ten thousand dollars
and I could go back on something tonight. I shouldn't
have to get in the third degree on it. But
they would do that in a heartbeat, because first of all,
I have no track record of doing it. Yeah, why
wouldn't they do their due diligence, find out who the
heck you are. You certainly couldn't do it on the
NBA game. No, no, no, no, no, especially if I'm wearing

(54:48):
like rocket gear or something. I ain't taking this man's money.
In fact, in Las Vegas at the Golden Egg, you
cannot even bet a Rockets game if you wanted to.
Right when this the Amlouf family owned the Sacramento Kings.
What's the casino that's off the strip. It's got the
bowling alley and not the sands. It's well, it's on

(55:11):
the left side of fifteen the Palms. You couldn't bet
Kings games, I mean nothing. People were betting Kings games
on a regular basis. But yeah, sure they were. Who
I mean Kings games you bet in your life hundreds?
That's probably true. What's kind of WNBA action we got tonight?
Whoa you have to do it? Why not? Is there
even a w NBA game tonight. We gotta be now

(55:34):
we you and I could bet the act all. She's fine.
By the way, did you see what is going on
between r G three and Ryan Clark? I did not.
I believe I have them both muted. Well, I did
mute them yesterday because in a nutshell, here's what happened.
So Catlyn, Ryan Clark, and RG three both had their

(55:57):
comments about the whole scrape between Caitlin and Angel Reese. Okay,
and Ryan Clark said, and I'm paraphrasing it out the
quotes in front of because I'm not gonna go look
it up, basically said that RG three can't comment on
the plight of black women because he's married to a
white woman. And RG three went back at him, and

(56:17):
then Ryan Clark went back at him, and I said, simply,
this is a nasty, nasty fight between two men who
shouldn't be fighting about something as stupid as this. And
I I said, you should go clear the air and
get the and apologize for both acting a fool. Ryan

(56:39):
Clark should apologize for saying what he said about RG three.
I don't even know if RG three said anything about all.
He was just defending his wife. But it was a
completely absurd comment that Ryan Clark said that he that
he can't he can't comment because he married a white woman.
It's just patna ridiculous. But point being is this, these
were two guys getting into a real real person who

(57:00):
thing about wives and women and all that. I'm like,
take it outside, go go talk it out, or go
beat the crap out of each other. Don't don't go,
don't muddle up my for you tab. And thus I
muted them and I feel better today. Okay, I got
no comment on the matter. Well, I'm just that's my
name is Paul. That's between y'all. Yeah, that's exactly right.

(57:21):
But instead it's on the for you tab. Hmm. By
the way, I mean to me to give credit for
credits due, I mean Ryan Clark's wives attractive and uh
and r G three's wife's attractive. Okay, I just kidding.
Would you there? Where are you going with that? No,
there's nowhere to go with it. It's a clariss statement.
That's what I would Thomas. You know what I do

(57:44):
at Ryan Clark the wives were ugly? What would how
would that change the conversation. I'm just why would you
bring it up. I'm just having a side note kind
of way to wrap it up. You both have beautiful women,
and I'll stop fighting with each other and get off.
Get off before you tab and that will include our
Ryan Clark hard you three conversation for the day. Thank you, Matt.

(58:09):
Maybe they're just jealous. I don't know. Maybe you're right.

Speaker 11 (58:14):
Of what.

Speaker 2 (58:16):
I'm not answering that. Okay, all right, you said it.
Time for some gut feelings. Yes, or see, I get
good feeling. I'm not commenting on that at all today.
All right, that's fine.

Speaker 11 (58:26):
You can go.

Speaker 2 (58:26):
You can do whatever you want. Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven nine zero. It is the Bat Talby
Show with Ross. It's time for some gut feelings to
make some sports predictions. If you have any sports prediction whatsoever,
we want to hear from you. And if you've gotten
something right in the past, call on and brag and
come get your flowers. Listen up, appealing, listen that thumma.

(58:52):
You'll they got a gut healing. This is their gut
feeling on the Matt Thomas Show. Seven one three two
one two five is seven ninety. I ask you a
simple question. Do you have something in your crystal ball
that you see for sports? If you do, let us
know seven one three two one two five seven. Auntie,

(59:13):
it is time for a Tuesday gut feeling Ross. How
do we do from last week? Well man, last week
you said it would be a Knicks versus Pacers Eastern Finals. Yeah,
which I think was the Chalk at the time. Yeah,
it's I'm not bragging about that one. That's okay. No,
I think I don't think it was Mega Chalk, but

(59:34):
I think the Knicks or at least up to it.
But that's okay. We'll give you a credit for that.
You said under three and a half standalone games for
the Texans. That is wrong. I'm sorry, I'm not I'm
not counting nine pm on ESPN Plus a standalone game.
I'm calling that the wrong. I'm giving that a Nobody
gives two craps about that game. Game you lose no

(59:55):
good days. I'm right, it's a three and a half.
You get a half, you get a half a national
game on an ESPN Plus. Let me tell you there's
nobody in uh Concord, New Hampshire's gonna go on their
computer and watch the Texans and Seahawks a nine o'clock
at night or ten o'clock in the east. That is
a win for me. I will take it. No, you lose, Yeah,

(01:00:16):
you lose. Good day, sir, loss. Lance mccullors Junior, out
of the vari You really want to know how this is.
ESPN plus is for the game you have to put
on because you feel sorry for those teams.

Speaker 10 (01:00:28):
Put it on.

Speaker 2 (01:00:29):
Put the use in Texas on. There's thirty two teams
in the NFL. They picked the Houston Texans. It's a
standalone game. I'm sorry. It's you know what this is.
It's the It's the three thirty Savurn wallcard of National
TV Games. Good, I guess what. It's the national TV games. No, no, no, no,
it's streaming games, national streaming Christmas. Christmas is on Netflix.

Speaker 11 (01:00:51):
That counts.

Speaker 2 (01:00:52):
Netflix is more legit than the ESPA plus is a
huge make No. I'm sorry, I'm winning. Sorry, I w
I win. Continue, you are wrong, you lose. Keep playing that. Yeah,
you can play all your soundbites you want to talk.
And I was like, what's your SoundBite? You play? What

(01:01:16):
is this? Yankees lose again? Thanks Charles long you said,
Lancemer Colors Junior out of the rotation by June fifteenth,
Did I really? Yeah, hater, I don't think I said that. Oh,
I said, we're about to have an uncomforable conversation. Lancer
Colors Junior out of the rotation by June fifteenth. I

(01:01:38):
wrote it down. Okay, well that don't get wrong. Four
weeks of that now, don't forget he had just gotten
one out though, when you had said that he'd only
get one out. Oh okay, okay, well you know what
four innings was a blessing? Then, yes it was. And
then you said Fromervelda his quality start, which was a
piggyback off of mine, which I believe he did. He did,
And I alsow the Astro was going four and three

(01:01:58):
in this trip, and that is still within play. Okay,
they are right now, what three and two on their
two games left to go? I don't know. Nobody cares
all right, Moving along to live predictions. I told you
of a casino mode, I said, I put in all caps.
I'm not bleeping leaving Lance with Colors Junior Island feeling

(01:02:19):
good at least, wait you field good? I have four innings. Yeah,
how many heard was that you give up zero zero
quality start. No, no, but we're trending in the right direction.
I was on an island by myself, and I'm feeling
okay better after Saturday. Okay, I said, over three and

(01:02:39):
a half standalone games for the Texans, that's a win.
I'm just gonna have something my coffee. Mattis beechless for
the first time in sixteen years of the show. I said,
Colton Gordon good start. His first start wasn't no, this
is this was the better the two starts. What was

(01:03:00):
his first start though? Was it four? Didn't go five?
So yeah, he went five. Third said he's gonna be good.
He probably should have been better if he didn't didn't
come out to try to pitch a six. Okay, so
we'll give me an l on that mat all right?
And then I also said from a quality start last week,
which I believe he did have. Jonathan Allen said over
three and a half standalones as well, and he said
Celtics break up. That's the fo that one that could happen.

(01:03:26):
He's the topic. Jonathan Allen's translator. He's being very fast.
He still feels that one. O my bad guys, he
had to clear his throw for it too. All right,
timed out for gut feelings. Okay, I will start with
my flying football question. Gut feeling. How do I do

(01:03:48):
this without having room for interpretation? There will not be
a pro all pro, not pro bowler, an all Pro
cornerback playing in Florida back first or second team. I mean,
there's only one. You're saying Lamar Jackson quarter You're just
saying that it's not gonna be Lar Jackson. I would

(01:04:09):
think a good fashion, old fashioned fantasy football, fantasy flying
football quarterback would be who's as mid as it gets?
Andy Dalton. Well, now he's a backup. At this point,
I'm trying to think of a starting quarterback who's just
good old fashioned mids Jane Smith. Gino Smith is a
good call. Gino Smith in below will be a starting
quarterback in the Flying Football Olympics. Okay, So there'll be

(01:04:35):
no Lamar Jackson, no Pat Mahomes, no C. J. Stroud, Uh,
no Jaye and Daniels, none of that kind of ILK.
All right, we'll check this back and we'll check back
with you in twenty twenty eight. Yeah. By the way,
my wife and all her girlfriends are going to Los Angeles.
They informed that yesterday for the Olympics. They just said, hey,
we're going. Yes, that's gonna be pretty pricey, be expensive. Well,

(01:04:59):
here's the thing. They've got a good friend of theirs
who lives in San Diego. So they're gonna they're gonna
drive to and from every day because you can. You
can ride a train. You could try, but I'm saying
you can't get any hotels on Los Angeles. Turning the Olympics,
it would be astronomical. I've ridden the train to San Diego.
It's nice. You can get nice and hammered. I think
it's like twenty bucks, one hundred and ten bucks. I
think one hundred and ten miles each way. Yeah, but
if you have some else driving you, that's great. Yeah.

(01:05:19):
So yeah, if they want to go, go, I've been
the Olympics one something. It's plenty for me. All right.
So mid level quarterback and below starts for the quarterback
of the USA team, Okay, all right, next Oklahoma everywhere else,
no ol pros anywhere. I'm not ready to make that assessment, okay,
but I would lean towards maybe upper end guys at

(01:05:41):
wide receiver and lower ing guys at running back. Mm hm.
Next next Oklahoma City wins in six games, they will
win on the Minnesota home floor the Western Conference. Okay,
what about the other side, Indiana in five? Ooh, that's spicy. Yeah,

(01:06:10):
uh namhard uh turner, that's shut. Heard was Adam Silver
at the Indianapolis, Oklahoma City NBA Finals. It's funny Scott
Foster is referring all these games. I wonder why yeah,
uh yeah, Indiana in five and it will send off
panic alarms in the NFL and the NBA central offices

(01:06:33):
in New York. They don't think they want a new
like Finals. They don't want Indiana. Trust me on this.
Probably New York Knicks. Come on, now, you have a
chance at the number number one media market in the
country over over in the market number thirty, I don't think. Yeah,
they're very comfortable. I didn't know they were that low. No,
but it's low. If it's Oklahoma City versus Indiana will

(01:06:57):
be the two smallest markets. I think Rosster ever can
head in any championship whatsoever. Okay, somewhere you're making I
think I'm making it up. Okay, but it sounds good.
Doesn't continue all right, what do you guys have me?
I will go, okay, see in five, and I will
go Nicks in the seven, Nicks in seven, Okay, see

(01:07:19):
in five. I'm not really ready to make a prediction
about Brandon Walter start, so I'm going to stay away
from that. He sounds like my doctor. Go say, I'm
gonna see doctor Brendan Walter. I thought it was Brandon.
It is okay, I just quickly said it's I can
cover my basis. What basis? Either one of them? Uh okay.

(01:07:44):
I will say Jeff Blum and Todd Cows pass out
from heat exhaustion in the booth. I will say staying
with television in baseball, that the that Major League Baseball
will make a terrible mistake and they will not re
up under any circumstance with the ESPN next year. M
I think they should kiss and make up and let
buy gans buy guns. I think I think MLB's ego

(01:08:05):
is out of control, and I think they're going to
feel like that ESPN's disrespect has hurt them and most
important of the cash that ESPN gives college football in
the NBA, the in the NFL, for that matter, I
think MLB is jealous, and ESPN's like take it or
leave it. In the ESPN will say leave it, so
there will be no game coverage on ESPN next year,

(01:08:26):
which baseball, okay, no baseball? Okay, Okay, we got some
more coming back. Guy is going to break down all
the great women's athletic events and baseball events in college station.
In the last fourthall and tennis are killing. I heard
lost number one and then in the championship. That's great,

(01:08:48):
but they lost them both, and the baseball team probably
isn't making the tournament. Just throwing that out there, but well,
like they weren't high expectations or anything where there were
plenty of high expectations when you know, like when you're
in college, should always expect high things. They weren't ranked
high or anything. They were highly ranked. They weren't people
calling it the best team of all time. No, I
don't think they're calling it that. Seven one three two

(01:09:09):
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven ninety I would like to say one
thing to y'all, Bross, I want you to great how
I say it? Are yay? Yane? Do you think Johnny
you like it? Are yay? Yang, it's an ice cube
in the building. I'm gonna give it a seven point five,
thank you very much. Out of fifty No out of ten?

(01:09:33):
Are yay yane? Maybe a seven? Are you okay a
yay yane? Hey man? Did you enjoy those roadway nachos?
Are yay yane? Should the Rockets keep Jalen Green in

(01:09:54):
this core? A young core intact? Are yay yane? The
Astro's gonna win the series against the Tampa Bay Rays?
Yay yany Were you wrong when you said under three
and a half? We have technical issues here from Saint Petersburg. Boy,

(01:10:16):
if somebody wants us to have an instapol on it,
I'm gonna lose on that. Okay, good, But I just
want to make sure I'm very clear. You are the
NFL TV bitch. When you were playing at nine o'clock
on the ESPN Plus, you just are well they could
have put titansh Eggs on. They didn't. They put a
team with some cashe hey, maybe on a standalone so
much cash you have to have the internet? Oh please?

(01:10:37):
Sam Darnold, C. J. Stroud battling it out at nine o'clock.
We will all be asleep by ten thirty. No, no, no,
that's you. You're gonna put it here, take your fiber
con and you're gonna go to bed where if you're
staying up watching the game, I'll be I'll be up
late now, we'll be late night with Sports Empt Texans
after dark. Let's go, and you're gonna come on and

(01:10:58):
take calls. I believe Texas post game show. No, we
can't do that. Actually could, but it would have called
lost Our sponsor should be called the Houston Football Spots Show.
We can't say Texans, that's right? What if we rhymed
it the Reefston Rouston Rexins postgame? Ship's time for the
Rooston Rections.

Speaker 15 (01:11:15):
We that.

Speaker 2 (01:11:18):
What the Rouston Rexins. We can't if we can't say
their name legally if on the post games, for example,
other because we are the partner of the Astros. Other
people can't have the Houston Astros postgameshow or the Houston
Rockets post we have the Astros tinton and call in show. Right,
you're on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 19 (01:11:32):
I say it one more time, slowly, the Rouston res
y'all gonna miss that out?

Speaker 2 (01:11:37):
You're right, so don't won't do it?

Speaker 11 (01:11:40):
All?

Speaker 2 (01:11:40):
Right? Uh? Seven one three two, one two five seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven nainti, Aggie, dog,
you have any predictions about the Olympic sports at Texas
A and M University.

Speaker 20 (01:11:54):
Uh?

Speaker 12 (01:11:55):
No, not so much about Olympics. But you do realize
that you can want to get in on a television
plus on a television.

Speaker 2 (01:12:02):
Right, yes, of course, Well you.

Speaker 12 (01:12:05):
Keeping to pull up your computer to pull up your computer.
Like nobody's pulling up their computer, mat, I mean maybe
on their.

Speaker 2 (01:12:10):
Phone while they're no, look, have you met have you
have you met the average sports fan? No, they're gonna
have a difficult time with it, trust me on this.
By the way, I thought, by the way, by the way,
Ai dog, it won't matter because it'll be on local
television here in Houston, So they're gonna they're gonna put
it on over the air station, so it won't be
an issue for people in Houston exactly.

Speaker 12 (01:12:31):
But guys, so a couple of predictions. Uh, I think
both conference finals are gonna go seven games because I
think the NBA is gonna try to get as much
money out of this as humanly possible because they know
that it's gonna be at least one small market team
in the finals.

Speaker 2 (01:12:47):
Yeah, but that's hold on. Everybody said that they were
gonna rig it for the Lakers and the Warriors, and
they're both out. How are they this? Come on, man,
with this rigging stuff.

Speaker 11 (01:12:56):
Well, I don't think it's rig.

Speaker 12 (01:12:58):
I think it's just a situation where I think they're
they're just they're gonna let players play and let things
happen in the game.

Speaker 2 (01:13:05):
I mean, that's rigging.

Speaker 12 (01:13:06):
You knew that the Golden State game was was gonna
go seven, right.

Speaker 2 (01:13:09):
Ross No, they lost to the Wolves in five.

Speaker 12 (01:13:14):
No, I'm saying the Golden State Rockets. You knew that
that was going seven, right?

Speaker 11 (01:13:18):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:13:18):
No, no, no, because no, no, no, no, you Doug listened
to me. You would only go it to seven if
the Rockets were up three games to one. The America
wanted Golden State to win the series their way, sex
or the app. They didn't want the Rockets going around two.
I mean, come on, there's there been no if you
were if you're looking for national cachet, Golden State has
it way more than the Rockets do.

Speaker 11 (01:13:38):
Well.

Speaker 12 (01:13:38):
I think the drama was bringing people to that game
more than anything else. To fe Traymond and all that
kind of stuff. So I think that that that game
was that series was definitely destined for seven. I don't
know about rigged, but definitely destiny.

Speaker 2 (01:13:54):
I think we're getting into semantics here and she's on
stage two. Oh Destiny. Oh did she work anything else?

Speaker 12 (01:14:01):
Ad Uh, The Aggies are actually going to win their
win the SEC tournament, go to a regional and go
to a super Regional and then lose there.

Speaker 2 (01:14:12):
Can you call my son and tell him that to
make him feel better?

Speaker 12 (01:14:16):
I don't know, the fact that we're not going back
to the college World Seriors doesn't make any Aggies feel better.

Speaker 2 (01:14:21):
But well, he's the one. He's he's the one coming
over Coach Earl's contract right now on the internet. So
I'll find anything to make him feel better. Thanks, Adie.
I've never seen a young man like my middle son
Peyton obsessed with a college baseball contract. He's out there
getting making the Freedom of Information Act requests in Texas,

(01:14:43):
A and in to get the contracts. This serious business.
The freedom information is like, you want one on a
college baseball coach? Like, yeah, my son's diehard. So he
had to go out side and walker in the backyard
because he was so mad about the softball team losing
to Liberty. So I'm telling you I don't I don't
know how I did it. But he is not one

(01:15:05):
hundred percent aggy. He's one thousand percent aged for such
a thing. Let's talk to Brian on seven aunty. Brian,
what's in your gut this week?

Speaker 21 (01:15:13):
My gut is something yell, do not talk about Nascar,
and uh, my gut feeling is Kyle Larson will not
complete all eleven hundred miles, Indy five hundred and colch
Pillow six hundred this weekend.

Speaker 2 (01:15:26):
All right, if that hits Brian, would you please call
us either way and let us know because I don't
even know any things you just said, Okay, not a problem.
Please do that. Thanks Brian. Oh, you know, I appreciate that.
If you have a gut feeling about something we don't
know anything about, go ahead and tell us and Brian
come Bragg if it works. Now, if he's wrong, you
and I won't know because we don't gonna care to look.

(01:15:47):
Uh yeah, I got a gut feeling. Man City's gonna
beat Born with today the Cherries and they're gonna finish
in the top four. So they can make the Champions League.
I have a gut feeling that John Cena is going
to be our Truth on Saturday Night's a main event.
R R is in like this, Ron right truth, Our
truth is a truth? Is the name? Yep? Really struggling

(01:16:11):
with these rest are names? He's been run a long time.
His name is Ron Killings. I think is his real name. Okay,
he runs the barbecue joint Parentland. No he does not, No,
it's killing Okay, sorry, all right. The News at Nude

What's bouncing around your brain? Felling well?

Speaker 14 (01:18:08):
That company says I need a new air conditioner in
this company says I need a better one than that,
and then the other company says I need an air
conditioner that's made of gold. Oh there, it sounds like
you're getting the big squeeze.

Speaker 2 (01:18:17):
You just don't know what to do, mister am.

Speaker 14 (01:18:19):
Mind if one of my amazing technicians takes a look

You better believe it. But won't I just be back

I should hope so now sometimes it does make sense

fix at folks who've been around the block a few times.
He where is mister am If my system can be fixed,
why would those other companies want me to spend all

that money with it? H If you really do need

Are you twelve o three on Sports Talk seven ninety
It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross Happy anniversary
Rocket fans. I'll explain in fifteen minutes. Right now, we
present to you the News at Noon, and with that
with Tom Brocoff Houston Sports Journalism, I present to you

(01:19:50):
mister Rossville, Riale Well, matthew Well, thanks for having me
again here all the News at noon. You know we
gotta lead off with that's our guy, Jake Myers. This
was shot to Ryefield backing up on a kapayaro onto
the warning track. Now it's good opposite field home run
for Jake Myers and the Astros take the league back.

(01:20:14):
Bowie saw it on Danny Janson's home run. There seems
to be a jet stream out to right field, like
Jansen's homer that just looked like a harmless fly ball
off the bat. Hey, come on, Robert Ford, wait, don't
why he did that. He's bitter. You get to call
the home run. He always just was adviser. Now that
was I I was calling. It had been a flying ball,
but you got lucky. Still, well, our friends at Baseball

(01:20:36):
savon do say it was a home run in only
two parks. That would be Yankee Stadium and the stadium
that is modeled after Yankee Stadium. George strainbrener Field. Cheapias,
cheapyas they still count, They still count. For Jake Myers
a couple of hits average over at three oh one.
Is he your American League MVP favorite man? I say yes,
all right, fine. Golden Gordon's solid five inning, five a

(01:21:00):
third innings, five hits, three earned runs, giving up one
of them. Are two of those runs off a cheapy
home run that was also to right field. Seven strikeouts
on an efficient eighty three pitches, and then your seven
eight nine guys take care of business, even though you
needed four out a piece from Brian King and Brian
to bray you. But Brian King, Brian Bray, Josh Hater

(01:21:20):
closing it out. We didn't mention this, but we were
going to bring it up if we had time. But
we can bring it up with Joe Spott coming up
a twelve thirty mate, Josh Hater, twelve out of twelve saves.
Dude's been nails. He is every bit of the money
because you just funny, nobody brings up how much money
he's making this year, this year twelve Yeah, no, he
blows his first say but oh no, turten money spent.
Now you have to think macro on it. Did that

(01:21:44):
hurt the Astros in signing other players because you spent
some money on one guy that only pitches, you know,
forty times a year. I don't, I don't choose to
think of it that way. Yeah, I would disagree with that. Yeah,
but they're two, just two and a half games back
of the Mariners, and they they have he has one
win and twelve saves. They have twenty five wins, but

(01:22:05):
he's factored in thirteen of them in that way. So
basically he walks on the mound at least this year,
and you know that he's going to leave with a
bunch of handshakes that and it to me is worth
tremendous value. Definitely tremendous value for the Houston Astros. You
have another player and pitcher for the Astros making their
major league debut today, Brandon Walter. Brandon. If Brandon Walter

(01:22:35):
came in the studio two days ago and said Hi,
I'm Brandon Walter, I'd say Hi, I'm Matt. This is
my friend Ross and Brandon. What do you do for
Welcome to the sales staff? Yeah, can you sell ten
to two? And he would say no and then walk out.
You'd say, uh no, I sell Michael Berry first. Okay,
well that makes a lot of sense. Dude, dude's a
rock star. So Brandon Walter. That's the fifth pitcher by

(01:22:56):
my count, making their major league debut for the Astros
this year. It is on May twentieth. Pitching depth hashtag
it hash debt. If you have five days guys making
their debuts, second, five guys making to do anything with it?

(01:23:19):
All right, let's move on to doing On that note,
NFL will deserve that. By the way, why what did
I do? General disbelief of this show? I misspoke? I
apologize five ways. Five guys burgers and fries. What are
you talking about? NFL to allow players to play flag

(01:23:41):
football at the twenty twenty eight Olympics. It's expected to pass.
The resolution to Tuesday's league meetings in Minneapolis needs to
be approved by at least twenty four of the thirty
two team owners. Adam Schefter says it is going to pass,
and it should be easy. The most recognizable player will

(01:24:03):
come from the wide receiver position. Put my name on it. Okay,
I'm getting corrected by certain sources. Not a major league
debut for Brandon Walter, but it is his first big
league start. Well, just apologize to him. So I'm sorry,
I apologize. That's right. He had nine games a couple
of years ago with the boust In Red Sox, but

(01:24:26):
he's now an astronim I must have read wrong. I
must have got some bad information. Well, he's the PCL
picture of the months. That's true. If you check out,
if you listen to me during the Path to Future success,
you don't know that all these quadruple A pitchers are
racking up these PCL awards. Hey, some are gonna muster
up and be just fine. We don't know who. Colin
mke was back in the day. Now, look what he did.

(01:24:48):
He helped out the Astros get to the long Card
in twenty fifteen and won the game. Okay, So who's
getting the Call of m Chew Award for the Houston
Astros this year? Mmm, you got a lot of candidates.
I'm gonna hold back till June first, Thank you, Mats
call pitching depth back off.

Speaker 15 (01:25:04):
All right?

Speaker 2 (01:25:04):
What were you saying about the NFLPA or whatever? Oh,
the most recognizable player for the flag football team in
twenty twenty twenty eight you said, right, will be a
wide receiver. How about a two way player like Travis Hunter? No,
technically maybe be perfect. Doesn't they play both ways at
the at the Olympic Football What why are you looking

(01:25:25):
at me like? This is depending on the Olympic committee, right.

Speaker 19 (01:25:28):
Well, the Olympic command to do anything to do with
it with it at the rules they have some rules
of the Olympics.

Speaker 2 (01:25:32):
Like how how big of the rosters? We even know exactly? Yeah,
they're not playing both ways. I don't know. I'm not
a flag football at fiicionado, although I did get one
sack freshman year at University of North Texas in a
rect league and then they then they double team me
the rest of the way, and I got help a lot.
Believe that. Oh yeah, ask ed, he knows. Yeah, he's
gonna make it up too. No he's not. I'm gonna

(01:25:54):
call him off air. Do I get a sack in
flag football? And he goes, yes, you did. Okay, We're
proud of you, Matt. Anyways, NFLPA table rush. Uh, let's see.
The new resolution establishes rules and basic structure for how
the NFL hopes to see the process work, but is
subject to negotiansations with the nfl PA. Good like permission

(01:26:15):
for any player under NFL contract to participate in tryouts,
one player per NFL team on each national team participating
designated international player to play for his home country, salary
cap credit for any player that is injured who pays
this the insurance the insurance policy in the NFL. I

(01:26:36):
guess yeah, okay, if the NFL is giving their blessing
to this, yeah, they're gonna be on the hook for
this financially. Expectation that the Olympic flag football teams will
establish medical staffs and field services that comply with NFL
minimum standards. And guess what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna
get a job being the PA announcer for the Olympic
flag football team. Yah, I will see you and them.
I'll be gone for a whole month. And also a
schedule that doesn't conflict with an NFL player's league and

(01:26:59):
club mints. Interesting, I think I'm playing sand I don't
think so. I don't think so.

Speaker 6 (01:27:05):
Either.

Speaker 2 (01:27:06):
That doesn't comply with the NFL's playing service requirements. And
what are those? I imagine that it's got to be
some sort of you know, Kentucky bluegrass or whatever. Yeah,
fresh cut, I get you all right? Moving along?

Speaker 15 (01:27:23):
Man?

Speaker 2 (01:27:24):
Did you see one Sodo and the mammoth shot he
hit off the Green Monster. I saw it. It was
a drive the left field ballpark will hold it off
the monster, and it took him about five seconds to
leave the home play area and round first. That's all
I got, so stood watching it as it sailed toward

(01:27:44):
the wall. It hit about two thirds of the way up.
Soto managed only a single. Mett's manager, Carlos Mendoza, said
he was going to have to talk to him about
getting his hustle up. And that's why I'm team Crane
on the long term contracts. Juan Soto signs a six
year deal. He hustles for that ten year deal. I'm good.

(01:28:08):
I think he's just showed to lack of hustle when
he was a free agent, and that he did. How
old is he again? Twenty six? Now he was nineteen
as a national? Correct? Is that we kept peering over
and off from Joe Bucker? Twenty yet nineteen? I mean,
he was a phenom. He's great. Now he's ridiculous. He's
making three quarters of a billion dollars. So he's doing. Okay,
all right? Anything else and that you do? Is it now? Okay?

(01:28:29):
Up next, Happy anniversary Rocket fans, We'll let you hear
what happened thirty years ago today? Okay, twelve thirteen On
Sports Talk seven on eight, Mario La Cod Drexler.

Speaker 17 (01:28:44):
Achemolan on the border.

Speaker 10 (01:28:45):
Of the rubbers.

Speaker 2 (01:28:46):
Do still hold to the last shot? So the tendency
to setuation to wait too long?

Speaker 10 (01:28:52):
Though?

Speaker 14 (01:28:56):
Eli out of the corner for three?

Speaker 7 (01:29:00):
Kelly, what up?

Speaker 19 (01:29:01):
Three?

Speaker 2 (01:29:01):
What's seven point one seconds to play? Mario? Ellie? Is
that mistake through the heart for a second straight season
by the Houston Rockets. It was the late Greg Gumbele
on the call There kiss a death Mario Ellie thirty
years ago today, What were you doing today, Damni? Any
memories of that? I had to been home because I

(01:29:23):
wasn't traveling.

Speaker 19 (01:29:24):
I was.

Speaker 2 (01:29:25):
I'm sure I was watching. I believe I have the
Gene Peterson version of that. By the way, do you
want to play it? I think I haven't. Let me say, okay,
let's be impressive of you do. Uh, Let's see if
this works. They double up Denny's Beth.

Speaker 6 (01:29:39):
He got j Glaster, Robert orri Orio glaze along past
Ellie in the quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:29:44):
Ellie's got a three butter seven second save a second
to God time out.

Speaker 10 (01:29:52):
To That's the homework call right there. Maybe that was awesome.
That's awesome. That is awesome.

Speaker 2 (01:30:05):
Jane Peterson may rest Jim boy Say thirty years ago thirty.
We used to be younger, Matt. That was my first
full season doing the PA for the Rockets, because I
came in middle of ninety four to do it. That
was after you had served your you on what no
PA as a public address republican dress that means in

(01:30:26):
in arena announcers. I want to say that that was
that's like that. No, that wasn't That was Jean Peterson,
the great, the late great Jean Peterson. Yeah, happy anniversary,
very involved in that. Uh yeah. So that was on
the road. So you were just you were home. I
did travel. I did go to the NBA Finals that
year in Orlando. I was very close to Nick Anderson

(01:30:50):
missing those free throws like I mean next them. No,
well you know what, Yes I did. Yeah, full credit,
I will take full credit. Yeah that's a ticket. How good,
that's a SNL early reference. I got it for that.
I got very much. Yeah, thirty years ago, that was
the case. I did go to San Antonio for the

(01:31:11):
NBA Western Finals that year. For some reason, I didn't
go to fiend for kt H for what Uh no,
this is for KSUVKPR space. Yeah. Yeah, we we took
metter of fact, we took a bunch of four or
five bus loads of listeners to San Antoni. This one
they were playing at the Albmal Dome with that bus
smell like, uh rosemary sunflowers and cool little gret great.

(01:31:36):
I want I'm curious. I want to I wonder if
anybody met that special somebody we took. I think we
took five bus loads of people there. That's when you
go the Almaldome. We got in the upper deck at
the almal Dome for ten dollars for a Western Conference final.
What it's a different time, pal Well. First of all,
almal Dome's trying to fill thirty five forty thousand seats
compared to filling up arenas, and you know, ten that

(01:32:00):
still seems cheap for a Western Finals for ten bucks,
still seems cheap. Yeah, yeah, it was fun. We were
there when Elijah Wan had to watch David Robinson get
his MVP Awarden. He's the side eye on him and
then Elijah on Dreams shook him for about two and
a half hours. Yeah, that was great fun. Then I
went to Orlando and uh, I tell you my Daryl

(01:32:21):
Garrettson story. Do you know what Daryl Garretson is? Yeah,
it was the senator, the junior senator from Senator Senator
Daryl Garretson. No, he was the referee that was traveling. Okay,
oh I think I've maybe heard this, but go ahead
real quick. So nineteen ninety five, we're flying to UH
Orlando and we flew we flew Milta because it was
cheaper okay, we changed plans in Atlanta. Mm hmm. So

(01:32:45):
from Atlanta to Orlando were a lot of NBA people
on it because that was a you know, Atlanta's a
hub for Delta and whatnot. And I happened to notice
Daryl Garretson, who was one of the official referees. His
son Ron was also an official too, but Daryl was
a long time, longtime NBA official and still active at
the time. And I told my radio partner at the time,
I said, Hey, I'm gonna go introduce myself. I mean,

(01:33:06):
he may know my face because I'm the re announcer.
So I wanted to Daryl Garretts and I said, mister
garrett and my name is Matt Thomas. I'm the rena
announcer for the Rockets in Houston. I'm covering from my
radio station in Orlando. And he goes, oh, you guys,
you think you're the stars of the show. All you
do is scream and yell and get people going, and

(01:33:30):
it's really annoying. And then you shocked him right in
the mouth. Twenty three year old Matt Thomas was dismayed.
I said, Daryl, i'p you have a great time. I
enjoy walking your work, and I turned around with my
tail between my legs, and I tell my partner at
the time, I said, you wouldn't believe that it could
not have gone any worse, which once again showed you

(01:33:53):
that twenty five percent of America are pure a holes.
I happen to want and to run into one of them.
Dale Darryl Darryl Garretson. Darryl Garretson, Okay, very bad guy.
Can well, he's known play longer with us? Can tankerous? Grumpy?
You think that Scott Foster gets in the sideways with players?

(01:34:14):
Garretson was way And this is when I think the
NBA only used two officials in games, which I can't
believe the NBA went as long as it did with
just two referees. When did they add a third? Do
you know? Can y'all want you look at it? I
want to try to guess the year. Okay, when did
the NBA add a third official. I'm gonna say nineteen

(01:34:35):
ninety seven, maybe ninety six. This is eighty eight, eighty nine, huh.
But also it's the you know Google gym. No, No, no,
that's wrong. I mean I could be really wrong on this.
I thought there were just two officials for that. First
female was nineteen ninety seven. Okay, we're stilling. Then maybe

(01:34:59):
I'm just off. Yeah, I was apparently adopted for the
experimented with seventy eight and seventy eight. You know, you
know what I'm mixing up. I'm mixing up eighty six
finals with the Lakers and Celtics and the two officials
in three. But it was definitely Daryl Garrettson that I
saw in the Atlanta airport, and I was you wanted
to punch him at the throat. No, I was just disappointed.
I'm like, I came over and said, like, I know
that there are officials in the NBA today. I can

(01:35:20):
go I can when I'm sitting, when I'm in a
restaurant on the road or a bar, I can go
up and say hello to and they can't be any nicer.
And there are other guys that I wouldn't I would
stay far away from because we're just not nice people.
And I'm well mention their names, okay until you find
me off fair and they'll be happy to spend the beans.
I like that because I'm bitter like that. Okay, seven
one three two one two five, so that it sold

(01:35:42):
has been since eighty eight eighty nine. Huh okay, wow,
think we should you think you need for a fourth
I think there should be an official on the court,
on the at the scores team. Man, But that's more
calls and more bogged down games. Don't you want the
calls right? Yes, you are the ones I want that.
I told you, I told you you're right. We want
the calls right, just throwing it out there. How about

(01:36:02):
four out of bounds plays, final two minutes? How about
speed up the challenge system? Yeah? How about if somebody
doing their own challenge. Yeah, that's what happens in soccer.
They had the video assistant referee. It's another referee who
basically does the checks while the game's going on. Because
here's the thing. The crew chief who works the NBA game,
who does the official, he's the one that ultimately makes
the call. So Caucus, New Jersey, where the video replay

(01:36:25):
center it's can help, but they're not. When they're out.
What do they do see if the replay center should
make the call, they're not making the call. Like I said,
you're always going to be biased towards your own call.
That's exactly right, if you are the one that gets
called for the I'm challenging your call often, are you
going to change it exactly? Even subconsciously now, probably consciously
for a lot of these rests, but even subconsciously now.
The problem is if I put a fourth official there

(01:36:45):
and that fourth official says, okay, buddy, I'm sorry, I
got to overrule you. Did they go back to the locker? Man,
go thanks for showing me up like that. Yeah, I
mean I can. There's some indirect hard feelings. Right, you're
an official, you get the call wrong, you get the call.
But people are still they need they need third party
people to do it in every sport. All right, let's
talk to Joe as Spota. We'll do that next, and

(01:37:06):
we'll get to more of your phone calls as well.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two, one two five seven ninety twelve thirty two.
Let's spend ten minutes with the manager of your Houston Astros,
Joe's Spota skip back to back road winds. Did you
celebrate with the Tampa cigar?

Speaker 11 (01:37:24):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (01:37:24):
Or no?

Speaker 5 (01:37:27):
No?

Speaker 12 (01:37:28):
Why should have.

Speaker 15 (01:37:28):
Each olebray with a cigar?

Speaker 11 (01:37:31):
Man?

Speaker 15 (01:37:32):
We are you know it's too hot to be smoking.

Speaker 2 (01:37:37):
Seriously, how miserable was that? I mean, y'are dripping sweat
like at four thirty right basically with the weather, With
the way the weather was in Tampa yesterday.

Speaker 15 (01:37:45):
Yeah, you know what, it was warm and humid. You know,
we usually would come when we come here, we have
the dome and so we haven't been exposed to uh
to the weather yet. But yeah, but it was a
little bit warm. But uh when when you you know,
the the guy's liked it warm weather. He just he
just he was like a like a hat and wave
immediately once we got on the field and and we

(01:38:07):
started sweating. But uh, but you know, it's part of
it this summer.

Speaker 2 (01:38:11):
You know, if you want to get ejected again tomorrow's
games at one ten Tampa time, I'm just throwing that
out there as a possibility for you there.

Speaker 12 (01:38:18):
Uh No, you.

Speaker 15 (01:38:18):
Know what, Rather, I like watching the games from the
dugout better.

Speaker 11 (01:38:24):
You know. The other day watching the game from from.

Speaker 15 (01:38:26):
From the office, it was it was hard. Just happy
that we were.

Speaker 20 (01:38:30):
Able to pull that win.

Speaker 2 (01:38:31):
Well, I will editorialize very quickly and say I applaud
you for doing it needed to be done. Now let's
go to the logistics of it. So you get tossed,
you go say, you're what you need to say to
say goodbye? Are you jumping the shower right away? Are
you still in uniform and the guys are playing? How
does that work on? And how do you kill two
hours of time when you're buying that in their clubhouse
with you in the clubs?

Speaker 15 (01:38:49):
No, you know, I don't shower out and take my
uni off. I'm still I'm still in the fight with
the fellows, even though I'm not in in the dugout.
I you know, I'm watching every pitch. I do shut
it workers. I don't want to hear the fans reaction
because there's like a ten fifteen second pause, fifteen second
pause on the TV. So I want to feel like
I'm watching the game like live. So I kind of

(01:39:12):
shut everything off, try to keep the noise from outside.
And I just walked myself in and I continue to
watch the game and and and you know, hopefully we
can turn things around and and uh, but you know,
it's it's it sucks watching it sometimes from the office.

Speaker 2 (01:39:29):
Does missus a spot? And notice the difference in paystubs
when you get in about the ejection or does she
not even pay attention to that kind of thing.

Speaker 15 (01:39:36):
So, you know, the nice thing about those those fines
is that you're able to donate it to charity. So
I don't mind, you know, making a donation to some
of my uh, some of my favorite charities to you know,
help uh, you know, children with cancer, with autism, awareness,

(01:39:57):
all that kind of stuff.

Speaker 11 (01:39:57):
So don't mind.

Speaker 15 (01:39:58):
I don't mind at all. Tame of fun.

Speaker 2 (01:40:00):
Absolutely. Hey, let's get to the numbers. And again, if
you looked at your season box score, and last night
was a great example that three four to five in
your order went oh for twelve. You're not supposed to
win games like that, but you're getting contributions from the
bottom thirty order. Your defense, for the most part, has
been spectacular this year. Your relief corps has been nails,

(01:40:20):
and your starting pitching is getting you the fifth, sixth
and inning for that great bullpen. Do you even if
you are not the manager of this team and you
looked at the season box score, going, man, this team's
got to be in trouble, but yet you're just a
couple of games at the first place. You've got two
straight wins, you've went three out of four. Are you
even surprised that the team's offensive numbers have not exploded
yet You're still hanging around through about the first third

(01:40:42):
of the season.

Speaker 15 (01:40:43):
Know that, the way I see it, this is the
sign of a good team when you have different different
parts of our line of contributing picking each other up.
That's what good teams do. When our middle a lineup
gets hot. Just think about how we're going to, you know,
put wins in a row. Ones are often just gets
going all at once, so good teams find ways to

(01:41:05):
win games the bottom I order, pick us up yesterday
our bullpen, he's been doing f fabulous job. Our rotation
is keeping us in the game is easy when everything
is going smooth and everything is more in the right direction,
of course, you know, but doesn't happen in a one
sixty two season. We have to pick one another up.
We have to motivate our players to continue to make adjustment,

(01:41:28):
to stay to stay the course because things things change,
as we did last year.

Speaker 2 (01:41:35):
Part of those contributions from the back end of the
lineup have been from camp Smith. What has it been
like for him? He's got I believe, what is it,
nine hits in his last seven games, So things coming
around for him, just for your conversations and things you're
seeing from him in the batters box.

Speaker 15 (01:41:49):
Yeah, developing very nicely. I think he has made some
adjustments to a swing. You know, the guys have been
trying to have a little bit more rhythm, more on
his timing when he approaches you know, uh, you know,
he puts his foot down and want to have a
little bit more momentum, trying to create more power.

Speaker 17 (01:42:07):
And he's he's.

Speaker 15 (01:42:08):
Working out very you know, very well, very nicely. You know,
my Cormy kind of nice game for us last last night,
trying to get him, trying to get him in there,
trying to get him going. We we when we were
getting a solid production from Jake Myers again, you know,
not only he's doing it with the glove, but he's
been very consistent with Pauldy that best night after.

Speaker 2 (01:42:25):
Night Joe spot Ashrow's manager with us here on Sports
Talk seven ninety Brandon Walter making his first major league start.
Do you just have a speech recorded at this point
for guys that are making their first time your league start.

Speaker 15 (01:42:38):
You know, I tell him go out there and have
a good you know, have fun. You know Walter has
been in the big leagues before, but for me, it's
more go out there and just do your job. Give us,
give us an opportunity to win.

Speaker 11 (01:42:50):
Pound the zone.

Speaker 15 (01:42:51):
You have great defense behind you, but try to do
too much. Be yourself and we have a nice game
plan for him. I want these guys just to know that,
you know, and I told him in spring training all
of these guys at some point, so one of you
guys would come up and we'll will help us, you know,
going and start throwing some innings down of the bullpen
and a bad some way, you will find yourself contributing,

(01:43:14):
contributing to our season. Bigg's the long season, and injuries
are going to happen.

Speaker 11 (01:43:19):
Uh.

Speaker 15 (01:43:20):
So you know today today's Walter's chance to uh to
contribute and help us win tonight's game.

Speaker 2 (01:43:27):
Back to last night and the defense, your final two
outs al t with the great grab and then you
have the how much help did you guys give each
when he's coming your direction towards the third base the
dugout we do.

Speaker 15 (01:43:40):
And you know it's funny man that you say that,
because here a need ballpark. You know we we haven't
played in ballpark a few of our guys that play
here in spring training, uh before. But the dimensions are
are very you know, they're they're different right from Trompe
kind of field because there's not much foul territory. The
win you know, bowls out and right and not really

(01:44:01):
bows out to left, you know. So the lights it's
kind of dark because the lights sits low. So there's
a lot of elements that we haven't been used to
coming in this ballpark. So you know, we we had
to do some work early in the day just trying
to get a feel for the dimensions and and the
surface and the walls and stuff like. That's a lot

(01:44:23):
of credit for for paraders to stay staying with that
ball and some defensive play that we made behind Graham
Taylor and our and our leaders.

Speaker 2 (01:44:32):
You know why they know I command there because you
don't take your veterans with you the long ass spring
training trips. That's the reason why why don't you tough
en up? Skip? But why don't you tell let's se
who would you tell who's out to But guess what,
you had a three hour bus ride. Enjoy it, baby, No,
you know what.

Speaker 15 (01:44:48):
Uh, it's uh, it's those other thing about screen training
that you have to uh be smart about how you
you know, how much work you give this guys and
which trip you take and you know, trying to build
these guys there for a season. So you know, not
not really concern about those guys not seeing any any

(01:45:09):
getting any reps here at a baseball park. You know
the most important thing is that we we met our
adjustment yesterday and we played and we played really well.
We got two more games here, two important games.

Speaker 7 (01:45:19):
To go.

Speaker 15 (01:45:21):
For.

Speaker 2 (01:45:21):
Lets your run skip. You have had the ability to
use Victor and use yarn Air in the starting lineup together.
And that's because you got the third catcher. And look,
you hopefully get yourdon back. And I'm not in charge
of making your roster moves. You are, But has it
made you contemplate what you want to do if, indeed
you want to carry the third catcher if and when
Jordon comes but not if but when he comes back?

(01:45:43):
Or is that a situation that you just kind of
taking advantage of the situations in front of you.

Speaker 15 (01:45:48):
Yeah, you know what, I'm just taking the you know,
the situation in front of me and try to and
try to get these two guys opportunities to get their
pasts in there. Also, get him off their feet, get
got both of them behind the plate and give him
some rest that way, you know, and once we get
to the your done decisions, we make that decision when
he comes to you know. Our our goal right now

(01:46:09):
is to get You're done healthy and get him back
in that lineup.

Speaker 2 (01:46:12):
Hey, one thing I do want to bring up, and
you were asked about this last week about the long
stretch of games, and you had I think somebody asked
you when I was at dyke and Park about Jeremy Pinion,
how you said he was built for one sixty two.
And I did the post game show on Saturday when
he got the air the swing wasn't great, and I
know he likes to play it, but reality was that

(01:46:34):
was a perfect time for him to kind of just
take a step back. Did you have since that he
spent that and had How hard of a conversation was
that to say, Hey, I need to give you a
day here.

Speaker 11 (01:46:44):
Uh, you know, he's.

Speaker 15 (01:46:46):
Actually on pace to play one sixty two. By the way,
he hasn't miss the game yet. He came they come
in that game that hitting not start.

Speaker 2 (01:46:52):
So oh, I say, what you are you're just being
sneaky that way. I got you. I got you.

Speaker 11 (01:46:57):
I'm just I'm just telling you, Okay.

Speaker 15 (01:46:59):
The thing about it is that you you watch how
he and it's not so much physical break, is more
mental breaks that these players need. This guy's do a
tremendous job taking care of their bodies, their sleep of recovery,
the way they eat, especially like Jeremy right. So it's
more the mental grind of every day that he needs,

(01:47:23):
that he needs that break. So that's what I'm really
more uh looking at that actually performance when the mental uh,
when he meets a mental break, if that starts, uh
maybe holding him back on his performance, and he starts
he's a best star suffering because he's trying to do
a little too much. That's when we pull back and say,
you know what, today is a good day to get

(01:47:45):
a breather, and we give him a breather that day,
and he bounced back today, It bounced back yesterday with
a really nice offensive game.

Speaker 2 (01:47:51):
Great stuff is always good. Thank you for the time.
Best of lock. Let's make it three in a row
this evening against the Rais and we'll talk again next week.

Speaker 15 (01:47:57):
All right, buddy, Thank you guys.

Speaker 2 (01:47:58):
All right, that's the man at Joe a spot by
man's skips want to get gets Jeremy one sixty two?
Does he wants to get him in that full one
sixty two if you can, A little mental day is
good for him. But do you want to make sure
I got him in late? He is right about that.
He's sure he didn't get in that late situation there.
So it used to be obviously when Cal played, it
was a big deal. But it's I don't find him
to be anybody. I mean, it's it's a badge of honor.

(01:48:22):
But the grind is real. Yeah, I mean, and they
have data on this that guys are going to be
fresher and ready to go over in the playoffs. It's
not an accident that the Astros have practiced giving these
guys regular days off and then they've thrived in October. Yeah,
but if anybody is built for it, and Jeremy, thankfully
he has been injury free. Look at you. I had
to knock, right, you know, I always fully I feel

(01:48:44):
like you gotta knock. Don't even bring it up. You
gotta knock, though, you gotta knock.

Speaker 10 (01:48:48):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:48:48):
See he knows you gotta knock no. I gotta know
you don't even have to bring it up. Sometimes you
gotta knock it. You know you don't knock it to
you try it? Okay seven one three two one two
five seven seven one three two one two five seven
nine zero. Welcome back to the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
Thanks to Astros manager Joe Espada for joining us like

(01:49:12):
he does every single week. Coming up, we will have
Zach Dezenzo at one thirty here on a Sports Talk
seven ninety. We will also have the NFL Rewind coming
up at one twenty. Phone lines open at seven one
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven ninety. Astros in action tonight.

(01:49:34):
Brandon Walter not making his major league debut, as I
said earlier, making his first major league start for the Astros,
and again three days ago, Brandon Walter walks in, Hey, Brandon,
I'm mad he's Ross. I still don't know who he is.
You know what, when he throws six innings of nothing
but goose eggs on the board, you're gonna be loving
him now. I'll bet the under on that. Matter of fact,

(01:49:56):
you may start the Brandon Walter fan Club and Jake
I trying to run more than one fan club. Whenever
Jake gets de faid will make me no, no, no,
no no, don't allow that. That's not gonna happ I'm
sorry when he when he gets inducted into the Astros
Hall of Fame, will pivot. You know what you Your
undying love for him makes me think that when Jake

(01:50:17):
gets into the Astros Hall of Fame and gets his
orange jacket, you should be the one to present him.
No no, I mean he could have him. It's some
family member or some teammate, you know, but I do
appreciate Jake, and you should be invited to the days.
At least. It's been a rocky road. I'm gonna tell
you it's fine, Jake Myers Fan Club, but I just
want to We're gonna we're gonna have to watch him

(01:50:37):
June first, beyond, because that's when the fall last year started.
April of May loves her early season. Jake Myers, perfect
May first, June first, Jake Myers, he's keeping it going.
Blasted a five hundred foot home run last night. A
little short of that. I always think of thirty eight
biscuit on seven out of your twelve fifty two, biscuit,

(01:50:59):
Good afternoon to you.

Speaker 11 (01:51:03):
What's happening to my brother?

Speaker 2 (01:51:04):
Did you tell us?

Speaker 11 (01:51:07):
Hey, man, it's funny when you play that clip. Man,
it was man, it.

Speaker 2 (01:51:11):
Was the Glory Days, Man, Glory Days, Big Baby Baseline three.

Speaker 11 (01:51:15):
Yes, yeah, Ross, you probably what elementary school?

Speaker 2 (01:51:20):
Yes, I was nine years old. I think I know eight, No, nine, nine.

Speaker 11 (01:51:26):
I think I was twenty nine.

Speaker 2 (01:51:28):
Oh, you're on the proud back in today, weren't you, biscuit? Yeah?

Speaker 11 (01:51:31):
Wait, wait a minute, wait minute, let me get my
math right.

Speaker 2 (01:51:34):
This is thirty. I take your current age. It's attracted
by thirty. It's really easy.

Speaker 11 (01:51:41):
Yeah, yeah, so yeah twenty nine. Man. Listen, man, you're
talking about those referees, Man, Scott Foster. Man, my goodness,
but he ain't as bad as those ones back in
the day.

Speaker 3 (01:51:54):
Man.

Speaker 11 (01:51:55):
You know Jack Madden Limber, Jackson Jack Man was he
had that vendetta against the team or whatever threw him
out that different nugget game.

Speaker 2 (01:52:05):
Well, how about the fact that Jake o'donald throws out
Clyde Drexler in the game, and then Jake o'donald never
works again in the NBA and that was his last
game ever. When he threw, uh, Drex were on the playoff.

Speaker 11 (01:52:16):
Game, that was ridiculous, man, I mean they had some
I was trying to think a man of some referees
that were cool, and you know he said season tickets
to the Rockets, and you.

Speaker 2 (01:52:27):
Know you know they Well, if I gave here's the thing, biscuit,
I don't. If I gave you the names of people
that were cool, I aldays feel like, who who what?
And I'm turning the station to put on some Texans
off season backup linebacker talk, So I can't have that.

Speaker 11 (01:52:41):
Leon was cool?

Speaker 2 (01:52:42):
Man, Leon, what was cool?

Speaker 11 (01:52:45):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (01:52:47):
Oh yeah yeah. Danny Crawford, Danny Crafford was cool.

Speaker 11 (01:52:49):
Danny Crawford was cool. Uh, Big Levetta I think was cool.

Speaker 2 (01:52:53):
No, well that's true. He just was bad and old,
but he was he was cool. My favorite guy right
now is Bill Kennedy. First of all, well he's a
very nice man. Secondly, he gives you the best long
explanations you have to think about anything in term interpretation
when it gives you the referee reviews on those on
those challenge calls, right right man.

Speaker 11 (01:53:14):
Getting to the playoffs, man, I'm man Ross, I'm I'm
I'm opposite of you.

Speaker 20 (01:53:19):
Man.

Speaker 11 (01:53:20):
I'll tell you what, Man, I if all the rosters
of the team left, I like Minnesota's roster. Now. The
problem is they so up and down, you know what
I mean. But to me, they're deep, they're tall, they
got experience, and they got their go to guy, you
know what I mean. And I'm looking at okay See
against Denver, and it just that Denver didn't have enough pieces.

(01:53:43):
Well that's not the problem with Minnesota. They can match up.
They not gonna wear it down because they only got
six people contributing or No. Four or whatever. It's gonna
be in the rest of the sea.

Speaker 16 (01:53:54):
Man.

Speaker 11 (01:53:54):
But OKAC is more consistent, hints that's why they had
the better rug the season record. But here will go
to the playoff. Man, I don't seen no problem in Minnesota
going in there okay See and win it. But well,
you know, the consistency, that's the key, because you know,
Minnesota they could lose anybody, they could beat anybody.

Speaker 2 (01:54:13):
Well, here's the thing real fast about this is I
don't think Oklahoma City's a ffred of Rudy Gobert. I
think they're gonna be able to push him around. I
think Hartenstein and Holmgren are going to have forced some
heart and sent for beat him on the inside home.
Grin's gonna extend him, neutralize him.

Speaker 11 (01:54:27):
But they got naves reed though, Man, they got knives reed.
They got to love people.

Speaker 2 (01:54:32):
I mean they're they're good for a reason. I ain't
arguing that with you, but I I just think Oklahoma City,
it would be uh they have they're too deep and
shake Gilgess. Alexander can taste it. I think he had
a very mid series against Denver. I think he's gonna explode.
And Anthony Edwards did not play well last year in
the Western Finals, and maybe that's a that's a reason
why he wants to prove that the naysayers wrong. But

(01:54:53):
he's had to play a lot of minutes and really
be the main go to source offensively for them. And
that's a lot of pressure on for a guy for
yet another.

Speaker 11 (01:55:01):
Series and going to Indiana, man, uh, now you know
I'm Indiana boy.

Speaker 20 (01:55:08):
Man.

Speaker 11 (01:55:08):
If the Pacers can mess around win a championship, Matt,
you think the fans win the street in New York,
You have a whole state in the street in Indiana
because we're all about basketball.

Speaker 2 (01:55:17):
I understand, Bisket. Thank you for the phone call. Do
you make your prediction? By the way, you guys you
said my gut feeling was okay seeing five nix and seven?
Are you is there a part? Look? I have no
infinity towards the Pacers whatsoever. But I just find New
York fans annoying and screaming, annoying and against them. That's

(01:55:41):
exactly what I'm doing. What sports are all about. So
i' I'm done hate watching now as the Warriors are.
I'm team Pacer right now. That's fine them Hard lo
Morn Legend, Miles Turner, Miles Turner, Halliburton, who's the former
uh not Pascal Siaka? Is Pascal siakag all those former
Raptors moving around? Is TJ McConnell on that team Obi

(01:56:06):
topping the former Nick? There's a little rivalry there. Okay, Yeah,
they're a good team. What's I forget my name? Hard?
Who's the other guy that's got a kind of a
weird name. A smith and a great arena? Oh my god,
it's so much fun to watch a game there and
a good downtown vibe. I'm team in Annapolis. It just

(01:56:27):
says the city of Houston's getting swept up. Baby's play
NBA Playoffs fever. We're all catching it, you know, we
gotta do. We'll get back to town next later this
we watch parties. Go to a bar and see if
it's even on. I was somewhere and it wasn't on recently,
really a legit sports this type place. Yes, I will

(01:56:48):
not name it. I went to a U went to
sushi Japanese restaurant last night. They have three televisions boom boom,
boom and on the top of their their top of
the restaurant. None of the more on the astros k you're
at a sushi joint. Yeah, but they had sports on.
They just into the astros on. Okay, it's a little weird,
all right. Twelve fifty eight it is, you know, That's
why I remote for you buzz available. King Wood's final

(01:57:10):
Shushie joined Where was this any bat my meals so
they don't get a plug seven one three two one
two five seven doty seven. We are so happy to
have I am personally the president of the Jake Myers
Fan Club as my co host and the Matt Thomas
showd Ross Let's go, Jakie, go ahead home run.

Speaker 19 (01:57:37):
You know what, ross, I told my girl that was
your favorite player when went to the game, and she
could not understand why.

Speaker 2 (01:57:42):
Now he's not my favorite player. Well, I don't have favorites,
you know. I'm an impartial broadcaster Matt and Jonathan as
you know. But the the the club formed when Jake
Myers first came up and I saw him. He was
putting together good abs. He was fat, he was electric
on the Baits pass. He was making five star catches

(01:58:04):
in the field, putting together some good AB's, showing a
little pop. I'm like, man, this guy's baller. I like
Jake Myers. And then he came under fire, had a
major shoulder injury, and it's been a rough road. But
I've believed in Jake Myers's talent since he was first
called up, and we formed the fan club, and there's
been some lean times, but we're doing good right now. Now.

(01:58:27):
Once a year, the Green Bay Packers organize all their
stockholders and invite them to like a public Yes, so
I want you to take us because Jake hit a
home run yesterday as the Astra is one four to three,
take us into the world of the Jake Myers Yearly
Fanned Organizational Meeting. We all sit together. Tell me normally

(01:58:48):
it's during spring training. Where okay, where are you? What
do you serve? What are you serving? What's the crowd
look like? And then ultimately what you know? Describe a client,
Tell who is in the like. For instance, we know
who's going to Buzzfest on Saturday. What does that mean?

Speaker 13 (01:59:05):
Ye?

Speaker 2 (01:59:05):
No, forty three year olds with tats bingo. Now take
us to the Jake Myers Fan Club. Expel what are
you serving? Who's there? And what's on the agenda? But
generally nobody's there, so you got all this leftover food
to sit there. It's been some lean times, Matt okay, fair,

(01:59:27):
it's been fluctuating. Some of us have been there from
the beginning, and it's of course a great looking crew.
Throw back a few, have some good times. You know
what you should have been We have Jake Drake Myers
Trivia night. You know what you should have done. You
should have taken those leftovers from the Jake morrisnik fan
Club and said come on over again like a special sweet.
We were no, no, it wasn't the Jake MORRISIK fan Club.

(01:59:48):
We were Chas McCormick fan club. We did have beef
with well, you know, the Chazzy fan with the Shark
and all that kind of stuff. Yeah, yeah, we know
who's won that battle. We don't know what it's saying.
I haven't seen a little sharks in forever. Now. I
love Chazz mc cormick. It was never a beef to meet,
but people brought the beef to us with Jake Myers supporters.
I'm a little bit upset with Chaz because I went

(02:00:09):
to we were in down the spring training and I
went to go talk to him and he big timed
me and he said, I said, I'll be in this
exact spot tomorrow, and he goes nowhere, I'll be here,
and he wasn't there. You know who didn't big time you,
Jake Myers. That's right, but I had to bring you
into the conversation. You were in such an odd ject
that I said, Ross, get over here.

Speaker 15 (02:00:27):

He's he's got some curl juice in there. He might
put some curl smoothie in that, perhaps some Moroccan sleek oil.

(02:01:34):
That's what I use.

Speaker 14 (02:01:34):
Kate.

Speaker 2 (02:01:35):

Oh gosh, who shush uh? Kinney Powers? Oh yeah, he
spound him down, a little Kinney Powers.

Speaker 10 (02:02:05):

Speaker 2 (02:02:07):
I look, I people think when you don't have Maine,
you can You're not allowed to rip on maine. I
can rip on a Maine. Okay, I mean you say
whatever you want. I've told you. The amount of people
that find ross and triggering for his hair lonely alone
disturbs me greatly. Okay. But this guy Holmes Grand Home,

(02:02:30):

(02:02:53):
And Atlanta's got a bad and they got a guy

today's baseball players? I told you the stash has been
coming back, but the chimney. But the chin stuff too?
Tin moss, Yeah, chin moss. That doesn't tickle because tickle?

(02:03:21):
What that question your own self? I'm sorry, I'm just
I'm just dismayed at the amount of hair gel that
was in that guy's You know what's wrong? Which games
you let the let man live? Would I look good
in that? No? Would I look good in that at

(02:03:44):
twenty five years old? No? Uh, I don't think you
have the facilities for that, big man. Well, I mean
I might have back in the day, way back in
the day. Okay, I can't believe I went as long
as I did with hair and my sides for as
long as I did. I don't know what I was doing.
I should bring it back. No chance.

Speaker 19 (02:04:04):
You should be with sides like you should do that
with a stash, like you need the two pay type
of thing or what? No, no, no, I mean, well,
my head on top of my Roman colisseum around your
head with the top it's like like Julius what's his name,
Venus to my not Venus who's who had the like
the the the hair.

Speaker 2 (02:04:22):
Sprouting out of his head. Julius's the great one of
those two guys. Yeah, I was a sproutter like Galbert Einstein. Yeah,
I mean you're getting warmer, all right? Uh seven one

(02:04:44):
three two one two five seven seven one three two
one two five seven ninety. Say something real fast. I
love this show you. Not everybody does this show. Not
everybody does Oh my gosh, I love this show. There
are the there are other people that think other shows
in the market better, and that's fine. I can live
with that. And by the way, if you want to

(02:05:04):
be rude to me, no I'm talking about you. I'm
talking about in general at least like people that are
rooted to me and follow on Twitter don't even follow me.
I never respond to you, and I will always mute
you immediately. That's a shame. So if you're gonna be
rude to me, at least follow me, then I'll get
then just a chance, I'll give you a response, okay
at sports empt love it all right? Seven one three

(02:05:28):
two one two five seven nine zero seven one three
two one two five seven ninety. We have Ross's NFL
rewind up next after that Zach Decenzo. Then after that
it's believe it or not. One thirteen on seven ninety
Astro outfielder Zach Descenzo is a guest here on The
Matt Thomas Show with Ross Zachets Meant and Ross. How

(02:05:52):
are you doing and how's the weather in Florida today?

Speaker 20 (02:05:55):
Hey, guys, I'm doing good man, Thanks for having me on.
I'm down here in Tampa right now. It's hot to say,
at least, man, it's hot, so we're enjoying it though.

Speaker 2 (02:06:04):
Hey, you know what you can do? Tell Skip, Look,
I want to play as much as I can, but
don't put me out there tomorrow. It's so damn hot
at one o'clock in Tampa, FLOORA. That's ridiculous.

Speaker 7 (02:06:13):
Uh.

Speaker 20 (02:06:13):
Yeah, it's gonna be odd one tomorrow for sure, boys,
But I'm happy to be in the line up either ways.

Speaker 2 (02:06:18):
All right, before we get to some baseball, let's get
to some football conversation. First of all, where were you
were at the National Championship game? Is that correct?

Speaker 20 (02:06:26):
Yes, sir, Yeah, Me and a couple of my buddies
from the highest we made a trip down to Atlanta
and we were able to get to that game.

Speaker 2 (02:06:32):
It was awesome, and you were at the fifty yard line.
Because you're a major league professional athlete, you live your
high life. You spend no amount of money. Exactly how
far were you from the field itself?

Speaker 20 (02:06:43):
Unfortunately not man, we ended up getting some of those bleats,
but just the fact that we were able to get
some tickets was awesome. My buddy's dad had some season tickets,
got them for a little bit of discount, so we
couldn't pass up on the opportunity, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (02:06:58):
So you got none of the the beach of the
beard die of Ryan Day on your body at this
point as you're trying to tell us that's right, that's right,
all right? Well, now, how hard did you party after
the championship?

Speaker 20 (02:07:13):
We? Uh, we didn't party too hard, man. You know,
I'm I'm in the off season. I'm I'm focused on
on on baseball, still trying to enjoy enjoying life and
and go do some things that I want to do,
you know. But we definitely went and had a celibratory
beverage afterwards and back to the back to the hotel.

Speaker 2 (02:07:31):
So that was about it, all right. Well, congratulations on
your success so far as young major leaguer and your
championship Ohio State Buck Guys, it has been interesting the
amount of games moving around, getting days off, playing a
little bit here and there. I mean that you're not
out of the ordinary doing that. So any advice and
who's giving you the best advice? Did you kind of
work your way through your first full season as a

(02:07:52):
major leaguer.

Speaker 20 (02:07:54):
Yeah, man, I've been blessed to have some great teammates
on this team, guys that have been my shoes coming
up as a rookie and you know, not necessarily being
everyday guys, you know, right away and having to earn
their stripes and and pay their dues, so to speak.
So for me, you know, Jake Myers has been a huge,
huge guy to lean on. You know, he's an outfielder

(02:08:16):
for the back from the game, and his first two
years in the big league, you know, he was kind
of in and out as well. So he's been He's
been awesome. So to talk to Victor Carrottin, he's another guy.
You know, he is getting a lot more playing time recently,
but you know he's prized himself on his preparation and
coming in and pitch his situations. Uh, he and he produces.
He does it with the best of them. And the

(02:08:37):
third guy that comes to mind is Christian Walker. Man
you look at look back at his career and what
he's gone through, and uh, you know where he's at
now and how long it kind of took him to
establish himself. He's been another guy to lean on from me.

Speaker 2 (02:08:49):
I'm glad you mentioned Jake Myers as somebody you've been
getting along with. He's because he tries to call you
off everything when he's out there in the outfield, doesn't.

Speaker 20 (02:08:56):
He He does, He takes charge. He's a leader, uh
he Uh. And he can cover some ground. Man, he
can cover some ground. So uh, I kind of let
him do his thing. But uh, we're we're both warming
up to each other. You know, we're getting more familiar with.

Speaker 2 (02:09:10):
The you know what, he's Zach. He's being cocky. He's like,
I cover more center field than anybody else. Get out
of my wife. I'm already covering the old man val
two bays back. I'll carry your side if I need to.
I don't don't buy his crap. I'm serious. He's a fraud.

Speaker 20 (02:09:24):
That's fine with me as long as the ball gets
coffering out. You know, that's all that matters.

Speaker 2 (02:09:28):
Yeah, hey, you got twelve and left field eleven and
right Tell me tell the different nuances for yourself playing
each one of those corner positions.

Speaker 20 (02:09:37):
Yeah, everybody asked me, you know, do you feel a difference,
And I'm like, you know what, Like I feel like
you just stick me, stick me out there at either spot.
I feel like, you know, pretty comfortable. So that's the
most important thing, is just comfortability and uh, just going
to make plays, cut the ball, get you out, and uh,
you know, keep it simple.

Speaker 2 (02:09:53):
So, uh, I.

Speaker 20 (02:09:54):
Think each park that I played at so far, you know,
presents some different some different things, different nuances, Like you said,
like playing and left and minim made for example, is
or sorry, Diykin Park is a lot different than playing
left field and uh in Kansas City or you know, Texas.
So it's you know, you's got to kind of learn
the parks and learn different intricacies of each of each position.

Speaker 2 (02:10:17):
And do you have to just react differently depending on
lefties and righties out there and spin off the bat
and all that type of stuff out there in the
outfield as well.

Speaker 20 (02:10:27):
Yeah, the spins are you know, I'm still I'm still
kind of uh, you know, experimenting, learning, you know, some
of the spins coming off the bat with different players.
But uh, you know, for the most part, I understand.
You know, if I'm playing the opposite field lefty hitter
I'm playing, I'm playing left left field, right You're gonna
get that lefty spin. Same thing for right field with
the ready with the ready, ready spin. So it's I

(02:10:47):
kind of treat them, treat them both the same wherever
I'm at.

Speaker 2 (02:10:50):
So Zach Dezenzo with us here on Sports Talk seven ninety,
What has it been like for you as far as
mentally and going to the ballpark and conversations either with
show a spotter or others. Uh, when you're gonna play,
what time do they look for pockets? Are you getting
the lineup a couple of days in a row? What
is that like for you kind of mentally to go through.

Speaker 20 (02:11:12):
Yeah, well it was. It was definitely definitely different, you know,
to start the year not being in the lineup, getting
you know, start every you know, once once a week
or so. Definitely different. You know, I'm used to coming
up and do the minor league. He's being in that
being that every day in the middle of the order guy,
you know. So, Uh, it was different. But Joe, like
I've said before, Joe is a great communicator, he's a

(02:11:34):
great leader, and uh he's made a very well known
to me up front early on this season. What what
the expectation was for me? You know, if for me
that is, uh, he's gonna try to get to give
me a line up as much as he can. And
if I'm producing it, I'm playing well, then then uh
we're gonna We're gonna keep rolling and he's gonna keep
sticking me out there.

Speaker 2 (02:11:53):
So last question for you, Zach. Look, the offense has
had its ups and downs. Clearly you're still winning baseball
game games, but the defense has been absolutely fantastic. And look,
you've certainly shown yourself with your versatility. Does that that's
kind of good pressure, it feels like, because when the
bats aren't doing their best to be able to have
the outfield and the guys in the infield. Two plays

(02:12:15):
last night at the end of the game were really special.
The way they that the plays are made by Perettis
and by Al Twuove, it kind of puts a little
bit of you know what, I can handle whatever response
was given to me, and I if I need to
make a play like that to say a ball game,
I can do that as well.

Speaker 20 (02:12:31):
Yeah, man, it's it's great. Our defense, like you said,
it's been been awesome. We have a lot of versatility
in our on our roster and I think that helps
us in a lot of different ways. I pride myself
on that, just being versatile, playing multiple positions and uh
being having Joe be able to stick me in the
lineup you know, wherever, wherever it need be is super important.

(02:12:52):
I think the addition of coach Tony Preschka this this
year has been awesome. You know, he's great working with
our infielders. He does are really goat good job and
as well as as Jason Bellman, I got to give
credit to him. He's been working with our outfielders, working
with me a lot and putting us in, putting us
in great spots and and positions to make plays and
uh and do a good job defensively.

Speaker 2 (02:13:13):
All right, So Texas plays Ohio Satan football this year?

Speaker 11 (02:13:16):
Right?

Speaker 2 (02:13:16):
Is that open up the year? Is that correct? That's correct?
Who do you got in that game?

Speaker 10 (02:13:19):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (02:13:20):
Yeah, who do you have in that game? Zach I'm
just curious.

Speaker 20 (02:13:24):
I think I got the buck guys in that game,
and I think I got the buck guys.

Speaker 2 (02:13:29):
Do you know CJ Strong much at all? None? Zero?

Speaker 11 (02:13:33):
I don't know him.

Speaker 20 (02:13:33):
Uh, I don't know him on a personal level.

Speaker 2 (02:13:35):
We were both there.

Speaker 20 (02:13:37):
On campus at the same time across the past maybe
once or twice. But uh, let the chance to maybe
you know, get to know him a little bit better
and sit down and meet him sometimes.

Speaker 2 (02:13:45):
So why don't you'll do like a ticket trade because
I'm sure he seats for Texans are pretty good and
yours are the Astros. I can't be that that half bad, right.

Speaker 20 (02:13:53):
That's right, Yeah, maybe we can set that up some time.

Speaker 2 (02:13:55):
All right, Hey, Zach, thank you so much for coming
on the show. Try to stay cool and it's impossible
where you are right now. But hydrated, Yes, hydrated, that's
for sure. Thanks for the visit. We really appreciate it all.
Thank you. You got a Zach desenza with us here
on the Matt Thomas Show with Ross. Nice to have
Zach with us. Well, he's gonna be crying when arch
Manning throws for four touchdowns in that game. You know

(02:14:41):

Ohio States frat and use the handshake to get know
how that works?

Speaker 19 (02:14:50):

they have cigarettes and on both sides of their mouth too. Yeah,
all that blue grass. They do smoke a lot in Kentucky.
I think it's the only state in the Union that
smokes anymore. It was the last time we saw somebody
smoke a cigarette in this town and bars outside of bars.

(02:15:37):
Isn't vape the way that people are going on? The
people are vaping. That's way more popular still people, And
when I see them, I'm like, really, twenty twenty five
