Speaker 1 (00:01):
Is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross ten o two.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
At h Town.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
Good morning, and welcome to a thirty second issue to
the Bat Thomas Show with Ross. This is Sports Talk
seven ninety eighty three to two. The end a two
game skit. Gotta have and keep first place, sports Harvey,
because the Rangers and Mariners just don't ever want to lose.
(00:32):
Nobody said it was going to be easy. I lost
faith twenty four hours ago. Faith is something you can
gain and lose. Craig quickly, you just said about a
lot of things in the last twenty four hours. Good
morning everyone, Matt and Ross with you here. I'll just
make this very clear and very simple. In the world
of life, in the world of journalism, in the world
(00:53):
of communication, Ross and I are the Toy Department. Yes
did there are a lot of heavy hearts today for
a variety of things that have happened, obviously yesterday and
the anniversary of nine to eleven for other folks to
get to. That's not what we do. But we feel
(01:15):
the same way you feel, many of you about the
same things that have happened in the anniversary and whatnot.
So I'll just say this, we we are here to
do a four hour sports show to kind of try
to take you away from that, and we're gonna try
to do that. We're gonna try to laugh a little bit,
We're gonna try to have some analysis. We got Astros
baseball today, and that's what we're gonna do. But we
clearly understand that there are a lot of other more
(01:37):
pressing issues in the world going on today and it's
a little simple for our radio show that we do well.
So let's just leave it at that. I've got nothing
to app Okay, very good, All right, sports areve You
did the tenth ending show yesterday and people were excited
and are already ready to gain those American League West
t shirts at the local Uh huh. I only mention
it because I don't spend enough money with us. Uh
shmadamy uh and uh money not enough. But that's not
(02:03):
the right show though, You're so funny. I'm good. Sorry,
But yeah, the Astros are doing their thing, well, yeah,
they Alexander is maybe God's gift the pitching. He's the goat.
I mean, he is, he is saving. He's literally it's
not an overstatement to say he's saving. Their season is
(02:25):
under three as a starter. Yes, and the number one
thing I saw last night after he gave you it.
Seven frames last night, seven seven innings of the shut
out ball against the freaking Blue Jays on the road.
I mean a team that can smack the ball, you know,
Dante Bichett, but they could suck everybody else there either.
What did I say, Dante, Dante's sons, his dad, Yeah,
(02:46):
Dante's son bo. Yes. By the way, they don't sound
like he's going to be back anytime soon. It sounded
like it was a pretty severe injury he suffered, So
that's a shame. I'm not shedding tears. Sorry, sorry. Astros
are the last team that should be shedding tears, right,
other people injuries, But you got Jason Alexander. Yes, out
of nowhere, out of literally nowhere. Yeah. Is more valuable
(03:12):
than from Bervaldez, is more valuable than Christian Hobvier. Is
more valued than Lance mccullors, well, thirty two year old,
A thirty two year old, I mean journeyman, the journeyman, literally,
a journeyman two point eight two era is an Astro
out there dicing everyone up with his change up, that
(03:35):
little frisbee changeup he throws is one of my favorite astros.
That's a sweeper. Oh no, it's not a sweeper, Maddie.
He does throw a sweeper, but it sweeps the other way. Well,
it is kind of a sweet how sweep if you
want to sweep at your own thing that I'm judging, Okay, good.
I also have you break down whether or not three
of Bray's last four pitches were sinkers as they're categorized.
But he doesn't really throw a sinker, but I guess
(03:56):
sometimes he does. Do you think the TV crew, and
I've never asked this, I guess I could. Do you
think they just have to guess sometimes now the thing
pops up and then they just say, but yeah, they
discuss it because sometimes things get miscategorized. Mm hm. Like
you know, U Farmer's trying to groove in a fastball
at like ninety two and they call it a change up.
Like for instance, if I was pitching, mine would just
say evus. It would stay on the screen the entire time. Yeah,
(04:18):
but I mean, you know, you just go with the
old breaking ball or fastball. Yeah. Like if I got
on a hill right now and try to throw as
hard as I could, I might hit forty miles an hour.
I have faith before before you tear your labor, I
think you can get over forty once. Yeah, but I
mean after you're me. That would take everything in my
power to throw it as hard as I could. Yeah,
(04:39):
a forty mile per hour pitch to a major league
hitter is like literally a pitching machine that's broken. Well,
it's gonna be a ball. I don't know if you
can get it sixty feet at forty miles an hour.
I oh, that's the that's physics there, sixty foot six
all right. Anyways, Matt Yeap, what were we talking about? Oh,
while Alexander, we've Jason Alexander. Course we'll get to a
(05:00):
break in a second. But yeah, he has been fantastic.
He has been a god, said DFA from the A's
earlier this year, and he's saving the astro season. That's
like Wait Watchers. You're going to Wait Watches clinic and
saying we can't help you lose weight. You go to
the A's, You're like, the A's don't want you. No
one wants you except Dana Brown found him on I
(05:21):
mean a little in a scrap heap m hm. And
now he's the second most important picture in the Astros rotation.
And I can't even believe I'm saying it, because I
really thought that Arraghetti, once he got tuned in and
tuned up and going, was gonna be that guy that
was gonna be potentially the third guy in the starting rotation.
Astro's playoff series starts today. If there's a deciding Game three,
(05:42):
it's Jason Alexander in the mountain, and the first of all,
there's nobody else. Secondly, he deserves the opportunity. Yeah, we'll
see what Javier is doing forward and how much you know,
I mean, he does have more of a track record
and stuff like that. But yeah, going off of you're
only as good as your last game, it's Jason Alexanderson.
Even question off your last game, how about your last
two months? Yeah, he's been great. And then Brian and
(06:06):
Brady threw thirty pitches on Tuesday. Wasn't even sure he
was going to be available yesterday. When I heard he
was warming up, I'm like, oh my god, please don't
do this injury thing again. Please don't hurt his arm,
Please don't. And he goes out there and not only
was he good yesterday, but he didn't have to throw
a bunch of pitches. Now, if I see him tonight,
there's no way I'm going to enforce him to throw
his with his left hand. I would be shocked, but
(06:29):
there's no chance I would call it criminal negligence. No chance,
no way. You heard me, Briana Bray will not pitch
in today's game. All right. We even said this with
yesterday with Bogasavic. We're like, well, we just need to
have some, you know, some low leverage situations so they
(06:50):
don't need him. And literally six hours later they got
to go to him. That caller we had a few
weeks ago that I made fun of me, got mad
at me. When we're asking for Billy Wagner to come back,
they will fly Billy Wagoner in from Virginia to out
the game to night before. Brian bre you pitches, only
threw eleven pitches yesterday. That's forty forty one in two days.
No chance, no way, no how, I'm booking it. Vell
is down. Oh god, damn, why are you doing I'm
(07:11):
just saying doing this because I'm worried. So you didn't
want him out there? Uh? When once he was out there,
it was whatever it was economical. Thank god, it was economical.
I was out of there and actually, believe me or not,
I had confidence that he was gonna get it done.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
To me.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
To me, it was as much about I need to
go out there and prove I'm a closer, and I
think it was are you is your arm? Okay, yes
it is. I'm gonna I'm gonna have the medical staff again.
Granted at that medical staff can give it good information
or not. Who knows. They're they're certainly having a sketch
a year. But if he said I can do this,
(07:52):
I can give you an inning, he probably needed to
do it for his own mental health sake as much
as what he does. He it was great for everyone.
First of all, Yeah, he hadn't pitched since Friday. Before
pitching two days ago, he had not pitched since Friday
the fifth, So he got three days off of entering games.
So if you get three days off, you can pitch
two days in a row. In theory, it's not ideal
when somebody throws thirty pitches, but it happens. So all
(08:15):
that being said, they went to him and Brian A.
Bray even said himself after the game, doesn't normally talk
after games, but he did that. Joe A. Spotta came
to and said, yeah, you're my guy. I have confidence
in you. And people always ask what is Joe a
spot to do? And blah blahlahlah blah. I want to
crush him. But this is what he did does and
we've talked about this, Matt. He's a players manager. He
(08:36):
backs his guys. He shows confidence and if you talk
to professional baseball player or baseball, basketball, football, whatever, they
talk about how confidence is so important. And so Joe
Aspatta shows confidence in his guys. He showed confidence in
his guy and he got the job done. And he
also can give you a storyline that kind of makes sense,
(08:56):
but there was really a ulterior motive. I'll tell you
what that is. Oh wow, after that, brain's in a
pretzel right now? Not like that pretzel? The culture turn
to cell. Are you no like any ants? Have you
seen that pretzel?
Speaker 4 (09:08):
Call?
Speaker 2 (09:08):
No?
Speaker 1 (09:08):
I have what's wrong with it? Go give me the server? Seriously,
just right now, this is library Colts Pretzel Colts Pretzel
in Twitter, and see what you see? What shows upright?
Do right now?
Speaker 3 (09:20):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (09:20):
Yeah, that was you're talking about this one? Yep? Yeah,
that was a month ago. Yeah, you just saw it now. No,
I'm saying when I asked you if it was a
cult pretzel, and you're like your stomach on a call,
it looks like a it looks like a turn. I'll
just say it. Seven one three two one two five
(09:43):
seven dotty seven one three two one two five seven dotty.
Brian McTaggart's going to join us at eleven o'clock, looking
forward to his visit with us, as he does every Thursday.
At that time, Uh, I was not surprised ROSSI about
but jose A Tuba not being the line up yesterday.
(10:04):
I think the mistake would not be I think the
mistake running second to third was a I'm in my
head a little bit. I've been in Major League baseball
a long time. I'm gonna get to three thousand hits
and the greatest master of them all. Sometimes you need
a day just to clear your head and get right.
Because that was a terrible mistake. It'd be one thing
(10:28):
if his bat could justify the occasional base running mistake,
which is not occasional. It's a lot but and for
his career it has, but right now it's not and
so to me. I know what Joe said, but it
was Jose. You weren't ready to play yesterday. You were
not in tune with what was going on in the game.
(10:52):
We're I need you to sit and just think about
it for a day. And I think it happens to
a lot of major league players. It's not an indictment
against Jose. It's just an indictment of this is a
he's individually in a terrible rut right now. His baseball
team is playing four to twenty baseball for a better
part of two months. Uh, you've got plenty of reinforcements.
Urias can play second base, to Bond can play second base.
(11:14):
You got Albarez is playing left field almost every day.
It's a he can play left field in Toronto. It's
not a real deep ballpark, you know what I mean.
It's just the it's a turf field. It kind of
just all made a lot of sense. That's why, well,
he had two hits in his last seven games, most importantly,
but I mean that's that's the reason why, like you're
you don't get a choice of this. I know you
want to I know you want to compete. I know
(11:35):
you want to win, but you're not playing today. Why
do you do this to me? Upsetti's dress is not
even close to her knees. All right, that's buy smart.
Thank you. You told me to change. You told me
to put on MB network. See, folks, he's calls me
out on air when we were what were what was
on golf? Golf? We were watching golf, which is an
(11:55):
actual sport at least, and he said, put on MB
network and then he calls me out on air. Jonathan,
this is what he does. I mean, she's looking smoking today,
there's no doubt. But I mean, now everybody, you're not here.
But Ross made a reaction first I saw him. That
was my fault, yeah, but I didn't say anything. It
was your It was your reaction. My follow up, The
(12:15):
Pillow Fight Championships are on. We're good, Oh yeah, on
the OD Show. That's good.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
But do you you you kind of buy into what
I'm saying that that yesterday was I don't care what
your body says. I don't care what you come and
try to convince me otherwise you're not playing to h Yeah.
I mean I don't know. I don't know if it
was just because of the base running gaff I mean,
we're kind of used to that. I think it is
more like he he's been feeling at the plate. He
had hit sixty nine for seven games, and they tried
to get him the day off. He did pinch hit
(12:40):
and strike out, but he just needed a day to
clear his head. And Joe Spotta talked about it. He
said he sat down with him and said, we're gonna
give you a day off this week. What day you
did they want to choose, and they chose yesterday, and
hopefully he's back up in the lineup today. I don't
know if it's it works so well day game after
(13:00):
night game, so that does help you. I kind of
like we were talking about with Brian bogu Sevoc, It's like,
is this is he just is at the end of
the season dog days? Is this decline because he's thirty
five years old. Is this just a regular old two
V slump which we've seen before where he gets in
a slump, he gets in his head and he starts
swinging and everything and pressing, and he did last night
in the pinch hit opportunity. Yeah, well, so we've seen
(13:24):
this from him before. But then, of course, as we know,
he can get as hot as anyone on the planet
when he's right, and hopefully he's saving that for this
this stretch because they need it and I when he
is on one of those hot streaks, it's it's basically
when people say, well, the the best of Altuve is gone,
(13:44):
and then he'll get six hits in a series and
then he'll hit two home runs. He is still the
leader in home runs, although young Airda is get a
little closer. Not close enough, but no, not close enough, Matt.
But I feel pretty good. I feel like you should
respect my my baseball analysis. What I give you that
in you want to pat on your hold on, let's
go to the team leaders in home runs, So do that.
(14:04):
So he's is tied with somebody who's been out with
a hamstring off their bone for two months, right, correct?
And you want to pat on the back? Yes, I said, sneaky. Okay,
but yeah, he's not leading the team though, I know.
So he's not leading the team. Where is he? Is
he third on the team or where you're looking it up?
I'm looking it up. Okay, he's behind out too, I'm
trying to look he's behind Christian Walker. He's behind So
(14:26):
he's third on the team. He said he would lead
the team. Jordan has been out all season, Estak Paratus
has been out for like two months, and you want
to pat on the back. I would like, yes, okay,
so I mean, all things being equal, in normal situations,
he'd probably fifth, correct, And you want to you want
praise for saying he'd be first. You're speaking truth, yes,
(14:47):
because no one else said it. No one else could
say he's someone else was wrong? Like you close close?
Did you hear it? Can you folks wrap your head
around what goes on in this man brain. The person
who is third should be fifth. He wants a pat
on the back for saying they'd be first. By the way,
it's actually insane. Sorry, stop what you're talking about. Pillow
(15:09):
fighting championships are awesome. This pillow fighting thing is unbelievable.
You have two men, you have a referee, you have
a ring, and I would say the guys are weighing
about one hundred and sixty pounds maybe give or take.
Would that be fair? And saying that, uh, these guys
are probably yeah, they might be in a one to
fifty four, they might be in a super welterweight. They're
(15:31):
being separate and they have Well, this guy on the
right looks way heavier than the guy in the left.
Yeah he does. They have one open hand. Yeah, they
have a pillow on the other hand. You can only
strike your competitor with the pillow, but you can block
with your left yeah. Correct, and you can use your legs.
I believe it's a block as well. Rush yourself, Paul, Yeah,
it looks like it. And they're wearing tennis shoes. They're
(15:52):
pulling up in their cross traders. Oh, and the pillow
leaves one of the guy's hands. I want to see
somebody get knocked out. What's in these pillows? Nichols? So
now he did a flip. Let me tell you some
This is way marching than our show is. I'm gonna
be brilliant with you. No, please listen to the show.
Cut that out of the podcast. Thank you, Joy, and again,
(16:14):
what do you tell your kids that when you're in
your twenties, how did you make a living? Well? You
know some people. I was a pizza delivery driver. I
mean some of these This guy looks like he could
be thirty. I was a teacher. What did you do, dad, Well,
I was a professional pillow fighter. Now the issue that
all of us that are grown ass men are thinking
about us. Why are we watching dudes doing this? Where
(16:35):
are the female pillow fighters scantily clad? I'm sure you're assuming.
Is there any other way? Yeah, they could wear clothes?
I guess they could all right, back then, so the
Cardinals and the Mariners they go thirteen last night sports aren't. Yeah,
at least we're you know what, the Mariners won the game,
(16:55):
but at least the bullpen got taxed. It's a war
of attrition, Matt, would you like the bad news?
Speaker 4 (17:00):
Now?
Speaker 1 (17:00):
What's the bad The Angels are in town for a
weekend series with the Mariners. Oh well, so what Angels
came in town for the Astros and they split a
four game series. Sorry? Sorry, beat the Angels earn your
spot in the Al West. Astros didn't do it right now,
they're in a dog fight. You brought that up. That's terrible.
Seven one three two one two five seven out seven
(17:21):
one three two one two five seven nine zero. If
you're on Twitter, one to follow us there, it's at
Sports Empt, at Sports RV, and at Sports Talk seven.
I mean, of course, following me on Instagram will guarantee
an Astros victory today. You follow me on Instagram or
is the kid say the Graham or ig at sports
(17:42):
MT and the Astros will beat the Toronto Blue Jays.
You just get your standing out false promises. Now I'm
delivering on them because tomorrow will be discussing about how
the Astros beat the Blue Jays for a second consecutive
time and to keep their lead of one game one
measy little game. Blue Jay's at minus one sixty. Well
that's a heavy favorite for baseball, right, m hm, Well
(18:06):
you guaranteed a victory, so we'll talk about it tomorrow.
You said to bring it up tomorrow, so I got
got free rain. You did say that at sports MPT
and Instagram. Follow me Learn Live Love seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seven eighty Rossie, I love the NBA.
(18:27):
The commissioner said something really goofy yesterday that I'm not
real thrilled with. I know you saw it. We'll discuss
it next here on Sports Talk seven euty ten thirty
three on that top of show with Ross It is
uh a Thursday. Oh wait, uh we got a and
M and Notre Dame Sara are you excited about that?
(18:50):
I'm curious. Yeah, uh sure, it's a classic rivalry. I'll
tell you what. I think it's the right thing to do.
Play it in week three, Look, get those, get those.
I'd rather have. Yeah, rather have the big games, I
would say, in the not in week one. Yeah, personally. So, uh,
(19:10):
We're we're gonna be in some pretty decent NBA conversation
in a few weeks. Obviously, the season has to get
underway and the excitement level for Kevin Durant being here
and all the changes of the Rockets. I mean, the
Rockets are legitimately rossy A And I'm not telling you
something you don't know already, but they're legitimately an NBA
title contender. They're depending on what Vegas. Yeah, they're fourth
or fifth, mean sometimes they're even third. Dependence again, but
(19:33):
to say the Rockets are expected to make a deep playoff,
I will be very fair to say.
Speaker 3 (19:39):
So.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
I think I don't know, but my thinking is we'll
get some more NBA chatter on the show, which you
and I would both agree with and I appreciate. So
Adam Silber and I don't know where he was asked this,
but I saw this treat from Rachel Nichols yesterday. By
the way, sneaky, by the way, I'm a big I'm
a I'm a Rachel Nichols fan. Jimmy Butler, grease breath. Okay, So,
(20:04):
Adam Silber, this is her tweet. Was asked about the
rising cost to watch a season of NBA games as
a fan of a particular team. I believe there. I
thought there was media like a video of this or no,
there could be, but I just saw the tweet. So,
and she says, considering all the games are either on
cable or streaming services now either they're on their regional
channel like Space City m which again that's a cost
(20:25):
that people are accustomed to, but now you have to
if you want to watch a steady diet of games,
like for instance, there are many games the Rockets are
on this year that are gonna be what they call
Peacock exclusives that Space City can't broadcast. There's also going
to be a number of games on Prime Amazon Prime
that are also exclusive to Prime. So we're not talking
about twenty we're talking between Peacock exclusives and Prime exclusive
(20:49):
maybe eight or nine. But that's still a lot m
so he was asked about this. Silver says that there
are a bunch of games that will go on free
broadcast TV, and that fans can also consume the league
in other ways besides watching games, noting that the NBA
is a highlight league. I like Adam Silver. He has
(21:15):
to use his inside voice next time. He basically just
told the audience, if you can't afford it, just catch
the highlights. I don't know if if if I'm God commission,
I'm gonna seeing the comission. Comision are gonna be breaking
bread next week. Okay, he can't say that kind of
(21:39):
bother if you ask me explain, Yeah, I want to
hear this. I don't know.
Speaker 5 (21:44):
It's just, you know, he's worried about other things, the
problems he's making money for his league. If you guys
have a problem with you don't want support, okay, you know,
just go caetch the highlights. That's if you want to
say that's baller. Okay, I think that's I think it's
a pr bad mistake. But that's not on a business idea.
I get where he's saying.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
It's like, oh, look, people, I think I think in
twenty twenty five, every league is a highlight league, and
I mean people are watch sitting down watching three hours
of Yankees Tigers. They're catching the highlights for the most
part if you're not a fan, and the NBA is
very highlight driven. Lead absolutely when there's big dunks or
big plays or whatever that it just gets the buzz.
(22:22):
The way I interpret it is he's not overly concerned
that fans are concerned about how it's gonna how it's
costs it's going to be to view the Yeah, he
he is dismissing something that is a real problem. He's
trivializing it absolutely.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
So I just saw.
Speaker 1 (22:38):
I get what he's saying, but he shouldn't have said
as you said, yeah, well, because here's the reality of it.
And even Charles Barkley brought this up. And you know
Charles has been very outspoken about the new television deals.
He said, the owners and Adam works for the owners.
The owners got their check. They're gonna be making more
money on their on their NBA television deals between ESPN,
(22:59):
Amazon on in Peacock, NBC and they ever had before,
and that they knew this would be a byproduct of that.
Oh you have a quote. I believe I have it,
I play it.
Speaker 6 (23:13):
There's a huge amount of our content that people can
essentially consume for free. I mean this is very much
a highlights based sport.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
You know.
Speaker 6 (23:22):
So you know Instagram, TikTok, you know Twitter, you name it,
any service you know the New York Times for that matter,
to the extent that your content is not behind a
paid firewall. There's an enormous amount of content out there.
YouTube by another example that people that is advertising based,
that consumers can consume.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
And don't help. He's like, we catched the highlights. He's saying, Look,
if you would like to watch our games, we've given
you more opportunity to watch the game games. It just
ain't gonna be free. Now, there'll be some free games.
NBC is gonna have doubleheaders on Tuesday nights. There's gonna
(24:06):
be some ESPN games, I mean a ESPN because ESPN
still cable. Uh, there'll be some ABC games. So you're
gonna still see plenty of games. And the NBC package
on Tuesday is gonna be really good. You have a
chance either seeing one or two per games every Tuesday night.
And they're gonna do They're gonna do Sunday night NBA
games once the NFL season's over with. Yeah, and I
mean that's we talked about this, and we talked about
(24:28):
this with the NFL literally last week, about taking the
check now and what it means for the long term
health of your league. Do you remember what you did
Friday night? By the way, I forgot to ask you
this while I was watching the What do you mean?
Did you did you? What were you doing Friday? Were
you the postgame show? Okay, so the twelve inning slog
(24:48):
was the worst game in the history of Sorry, sorry
for your Lossuit. Did you catch any of the Kansas
City st Charter game? Yeah?
Speaker 7 (24:55):
Watch it?
Speaker 1 (24:55):
I watched it all. I mean I had it on. Huh,
I didn't watch any of it while I had Travis
Kelsey too. The game. Yeah it was a great Yeah,
great game. Yeah, Matt, I had TV one Astros, TV
two Chiefs and Chargers. Let's go, baby, it's twenty twenty five.
TV's are cheap. The problem is this, I have very
cheap TVs. Don't up. So now I'm not gonna bargain.
(25:16):
I canna argue with that. So the reality is this.
I was at Audiball game. We went to go eat
after and just as I told you it was gonna happen,
there was no no, no YouTube to be found on.
The broadcast was very simple. It was a TV two
has that Amazon firestick on it. Put the YouTube talking
about bars restaurants. I don't know. I didn't go to
a bar. I'm telling you I did. Okay, you were, Yeah,
(25:37):
and how many drinks do you have? Zero?
Speaker 2 (25:39):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (25:41):
I had unsweet taped. Thanks for asking. Probably could have
had a drink after the loss because it was a
trip to Burnham, long ass trip. But that's a different
issue for a different time. Okay. Point being is that
these television networks, it's not just and not television, it's
it's these sports. It's not just basketball, it's the NFL.
They're going to get the check and they're gonna put
(26:01):
it on you to go get it. If you want
it bad enough, you can you can get it.
Speaker 6 (26:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
I would imagine sports bars. I mean, we can ask
our guys, Sam or Big City Wings, most of these, Yeah, exactly,
I don't know. I think sports bars probably had it on.
Some people have really old TVs, but some places have
newer smart TVs and you can just pull up the
app on the TV. If you're a sports bar on
Friday night, and I'm not talking about just in Houston
talking anyway, and you didn't have the game on, you're
(26:27):
losing because you're going to have to reinvent the way
that you watch your sports. Now, I'm curious, did the
you know, the Direct TV business package is different than
the right I would imagine it. I think it does
have basically access to every game. Okay, buy the so
maybe that's not even a fair And if you buy Sunday,
if you buy a business Sunday ticket right right? Which
and why I know that Big City Wings does so
uh yeah, they're saying we're gonna give you more places
(26:49):
to watch, but it's but we're not giving it to
you for free anymore because we're taking their checks. And
that's what we talked about. How much are they taking
a robbing Peter to pay Paul whatever you want to
call cutting their nose to spite their face? See, but
they're not really doing that because they're taking a check.
Cutting your nose is what if they're shaving and getting
stubble and getting slight cuts, somebody can probably come up
(27:15):
with a better turn of phrase. I few where maps
coming from though, you know, long long term, short term
gain for long term pain, but they don't get the pain. Yeah,
their league doesn't grow. That's pain. I thought if they
take two steps forward but eventually take three steps back. Okay, whatever,
(27:35):
we're done again. I would have if I was commissioner,
I would say inside voice, Yeah, there's gonna be like
I mean, if you are an NBA fan and look,
I don't know how big our audiences. I kind of
have a feeling for it, but I you're gonna have
plenty of chances to see everybody you want to see.
(27:56):
You always want to grow the game. How much does
it matter about getting maximum eyeballs and catching people? Like?
How does one? How does a league grow? But I'll
say this in the NBA's defense. Tuesday nights on NBC.
What has Tuesday Night's been in the past. You know dramas,
Chicago Fire, Chicago pd UH, sitcoms, you know Rescue nine one,
(28:22):
Rest of Austin, Oh, America's got talent. Guess what all
kicked to the curb? Every Tuesday night, NBC, the Big
network is going to give you one and if your
local station wants to do it, they can give you
two games. Per night on that Tuesday. So you are
getting more access middle of the week over the year
broadcast than you would be in mere's past, because I
think about last year it was mostly TNT, a lot
(28:46):
of ab ESPN, and a few ABCS. Now you're getting
a full sled of games on NBA on NBC with
the greatest theme song maybe in sports television history. It
is the greatest drafted number one. The promos even are great.
Have you seen the promos of the Channel two is
doing No, They're all sitting there dancing, going done, and
they're like mixing in the day, like they like Randy
McAvoy's dancing on there. Well, no, it's the news anchors like, uh,
(29:07):
Danielle Guzman, she's going Donella Guzman. Yeah No, I didn't not.
I don't watch a lot of local news sunless. It's
after Sunday night football. And then by the third murder,
I was like, I need to turn this off. Who
all right? This is already getting me fired up. Childhood.
(29:28):
This is what it's called real life right now, childhood
for me and John tash Is. I was in the
middle of the Clippers home court getting on the game
number five at the Garden, Houston Rockets, the New York Knicks.
Now here's for the NBA Championship. The guy used to
voice it is dead, but they're going to use his
AI to try to recreate the indus, which again, what
(29:49):
I want to hear is I want to hear how
he is going to say Memphis Grizzlies. I'm sure they
can find enough phrases where he's close enough and they'll
stitch it together. Matt, Yeah, I see. Yeah. Matter of fact,
you and I probably taken time off to do an
AI show. Yeah, we'll be replaced all right quite shortly.
Help the budget cuts. Ten forty five, let's move on
to something else. Seven one three two one two five
(30:12):
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven
Ony Texans are back on the practice field. We will
discuss what needs to happen this week with them next
ten fifty. We have a little bit of a shorter
show today, not much, just a half hour shorter because
we will go to Astros on Degmode at one o'clock.
Brian mctagger joins us in ten minutes here on Sports
(30:33):
Talk seven ninety I just don't get it. Come up
at eleven thirty and we're gonna keep that extraordinary light hearted.
I mean, please, can we keep it externinary light hearted?
Uh huh. There's a lot of stuff in life that's
much more serious if we don't get kind of doesn't
even have to be said. Uh, News at noon coming
up and the Rotten Five. The debut of the Rotten Five.
(30:54):
Sixteen teams lost last Sunday and Monday and Thursday and Friday,
rossing five of those sixteen make it to the Rotten Five. Yes,
so we have a research team on it right now. Really,
how big is a team? Well, there's seventeen of us
really on staff. I think at four to one K.
My personalities. What's what's the imploy what's the rate? That's
not your business? It's competitive. Are you looking for a
(31:16):
new looking for a new job already? Don't be a
matter of time, you know, I don't think we could
afford you. So this guy is the pillow Fighting Championship.
He just won the champions Who wins five thousand dollars?
Speaker 5 (31:26):
Oh wow, that's it. Wait, what's the what's the points?
How do you even win that? You just just hit
him a couple of times?
Speaker 1 (31:32):
Like I'm guessing it's a job. You're sweating profusely. Is
it like a ten nine must system and it's brought
to you by a manscaped That's good. What's a good bussay?
He's got to do it. You got it. You got
himself a belt out of it. It's good, all right? Uh,
Texans on the practice field today. To me, he watched
me cecle I can do this. Wow. I think it's
(31:55):
Nico Collins is going to be in the offense so
much more on Monday. I don't know. I don't think
he checked out. I don't think he tuned out. I
don't think I don't think CJ forgot about him. But
there's got to be some combination of the things that
I mean. Was the rams secondary good? Was the pass
(32:16):
rush too strong that CJ couldn't look downfield? I mean
we the longest play that Texans had in the entire
day was twenty three yards. That's typically not going to
get it done in the NFL, especially for Nico Collins,
who could stretch the receivers and go deep down the
field with the best of them. I think I think
this week, if if we were to spy in on
the Texans practice, they're going to make a concerted effort
(32:38):
to get the ball down the field. More so, I
think they kind of have to. If you don't have
a downfield threat, then you're wasting Nico Collins. Well, if
you can't pass protect, you can't get the ball downfield,
Well that's gonna be it. No, everybody's telling me not
to worry about it because it was just a one
week bit. So I'm not concerned. I told you not
to worry about. Everybody on on Twitter said that offensive line.
Not true. I think most people are concerned about the
(32:58):
Texans offensive line. Well, I just want to make sure
I'm giving them a benefit of doubt. Okay, you got
people changing around. Maybe Cam Robinson won't miss any time
this week? Did you not hear me? Tell here? Let
me tell you. Ariante Ersery was like rated like the
sixty third out of sixty five tackles. You si, rookie,
it's going to happen. No armand Membu was number one.
He's a rookie. Yeah, but he was a higher draft
(33:19):
cat rookie. Yeh, that's true. I think Kelvin Banks Longhorn legend,
he had a good week. Two mm, do you think
that Demiko keeps Urser at the same spot regardless of
what's going on, or do you think we're gonna see
this fluctuating? Put him at left tackle and take his lumps.
That's what I say. I mean, what's I don't know,
what's the state of everybody? How's the injury? Obviously they
(33:41):
don't want to put Cam Robinson at right tackle, and
they don't trust the rest of the guys. Derek Fisher
and the like over there, or Blake Fisher or Blake Fisher.
I say what I say, Derek Brooks there, you said,
Derek Fisher. Derek Fisher, Yeah, Derek, one of the fis.
Doesn't really matter what Fisher I'm talking about? Does it?
Speaker 2 (33:56):
Again?
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Nobody knows who's offensive line, Nobody cares. Just just just
keep the quarterback up right. If not, you can see
David Smells this week. People care who the offensive line
is when you have good play, when you have marquee
players with guys who are making pro priles right. Like
I said, I remember when you and I talked the
other day, we recited the Texans offensive line because it
was good. Yes, we bragged about him. Now these are
(34:18):
just jags. That's rude. It's not wrong. But it's rude. Well,
I mean, Ursery can't be that. He's gotta be good, yeah,
Arianty Ersery being a household name for the Texans would
either be a very very good thing or a very
bad thing. I feel like a lot of a lot
of Texans fans learned Kenyon Green's name, Yes, and it
(34:41):
wasn't for a good thing. Yeah, it was. Oh no,
are you really telling me he's gonna not play again
this week? Or he's getting bench or he's hurt A man.
I mean, they're gonna be known, obviously, they're gonna be
known for the wrong reasons because we're gonna be sitting
(35:01):
there and look. Kevin Harlan in the NF on the
broadcast on Sunday was talking about, I mean, he spent
half of his prep going into the huddles, talking about, well,
look who's here, Look who's here, Look who's here. I
don't remember seeing that a lot when I when I
watched my NFL games with a lineman, You don't you
didn't see the massive transformation that Texans went from. It
almost felt like from play to play, it can't happen.
(35:24):
But maybe there's not enough depth that maybe there isn't
there is enough depth? I mean, yeah, most most teams
don't have you know, Pro Bowl tackles waiting in the wings, right,
Texans don't have it. It's just not good. I'm worried.
I'm worried, Matt. But they are favored in the game
by how much? Two and a half? Right? So it
(35:44):
opened it one they got they got a point a
halfhead of their direction. That's pretty good. I saw it.
Two and a half was the first I saw, so
I didn't know. I didn't see the opening line. But again,
there's different people doing different lines. There's that, there's that
those email guys that are looking for pre plugs. They're
not going to get it from us, but that's you know,
I'll give them plugs if I use their data. M M. Now,
they gotta pay seven one three two one two five
(36:07):
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven
nine zero. Uh. One of my very good friends, is
there sidin reporter for the Buccaneers, and you're gonna have
them on your show on Monday. Well, I'm a New
York hanging out with Commissioner Silver. Yeah, okay, you're out
Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday. Okay, we'll figure something out. Well,
Monday's gonna be you know, four hours of you know,
(36:30):
I like we do preview radio, That's true, four straight
hours of We're going to recap the last Buccaneers Texans matchup,
which was amazing. I believe the Texans won that game,
did they not?
Speaker 2 (36:42):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (36:43):
Late touchdown two? Ooh take down, wasn't it? M they No,
they couldn't have played with No they played there in
the end, they played No, because you play all the
four divisions, so it couldn't have been. Oh no, that's
not necessarily true, because yeah, because you have the seventh game. Yeah,
Buccaneers Texans history, Vandermy would know this right away. How
(37:04):
do I feel like I'm letting the audience down? I'm sorry, Matt, No,
you apologize. Not your fault. Yeah, thirty nine to thirty seven,
twenty twenty three, November fifth. I was Baker man from
may I think Baker had a good game in that game,
didn't not? Yeah, Baker, Baker was good. C J. Stroud
was better. Yeah, Tank fifteen yard pass. Tank now into
(37:26):
the game. It's funny. Is Baker Mayfield a guy that
we just don't talk enough about. That was the Dario
Goombawally kicker game. Oh it's kim Oh yeah, and now
Monday was saw Sunday was the Daria Gumbwallee football game.
That was basically when it was like c J. Stroud
is the real freaking deal. Yeah. He had four hundred
(37:50):
and seventy yards and five touchdowns in that game and
decent offensive line protection maybe the last time he had it. Oh,
how does he throw four to seventy and five tds
as a rookie in the three stats for two years? Yeah,
that's how it's spend. It's not good time. Now, have
spent ten quality minutes with our good friend Brian McTaggart
(38:12):
MLB dot com on the Astros beat. He'll be with
the local nine in Atlanta, uh for the weekend series
against the hated Atlanta Braves. By the way, they've been
I think fully eliminated from any playoff contention, and uh,
you put tag on the screen format. I appreciate it, Uh, Brian.
It's a strange situation here. You've either got teams in
(38:34):
the midst of a really die hard, tough pennant race,
or you got teams just playing out the string. So
there's no it's a completely mixed bag between now and
the end of the year. Yeah, I mean the the Yeah,
you're right.
Speaker 3 (38:47):
I mean they're gonna they're gonna play nine games against
teams that are completely out of it. I mean, we
all know those games can be a little bit dangerous
because those teams have nothing to lose, But those are
also teams that could be resting players or shutting guys
down for the season. So they're definitely teams they should
take advantage of, you know, especially at the end of
the year, going to the A's and the Angels.
Speaker 1 (39:07):
I mean, those teams have been out of it for
a while.
Speaker 3 (39:08):
So but it's all gonna come down to the next
week's homestand I mean that's massive. I mean, you know,
three teams battling it out for the division title. The
Astros are the only one of the three it gets
to play both of them, and they get to play
both of them at home. The Mariners haven't been good
on the road, you know, the Astros haven't played very
well at home, frankly in the second half of the season.
So if they can win both those series, you know,
(39:30):
I think it'll set them up very well in the
final week week to try to close this thing out.
But you know, if they go into this home stand
next week and lay it egg, you know they could
be in some trouble because if they're now chasing wins
and chasing the Mariners or chasing the Rangers gets a
lot more difficult.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
Every loss this time of year feels like it's compounded
with frustration. I thought that those setback two days ago
really really hurt a because of Garcia b because they
gave up the game late, and the fact that you
really had some serious doubts about the role of Brian
and Bray in the ninth inning, and yesterday he came
back and was really good. Not only did he get
(40:07):
things done in the ninth anybody did it with a
low amount of pitches. What do you notice? What do
you think about Brian and Braw's ability Very early on
when he replaced Hater, it was great, But it feels
like for a better part of a month it's been
difficult for him to kind of assume that role now
that Josh have been going.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
Yeah, and he's not alone in that mean, we've seen
that through the years when when closers go on the
il or you lose a closer to free agency or whatever.
Sometimes there's an adjustment period. Sometimes a guy comes in
and just can't do it. I mean, I remember Will
Harris taking over his closer. He'd been such a great
setup man and just couldn't get it done and they
had to move him back to the setup role. I'm
not gonna say that's happening with the Bray, But Brave's
(40:48):
issue is just when he lets the leadoff guy get
on base, he gets in trouble. And that happens a lot.
I think he's let I think around eighteen percent of
the leadoff hitter get on base via a walk. I mean,
he's got really good stuff. He just needs to stay
in his zone a little bit more. And he did
that yesterday. I mean he came out you could tell that.
I mean that he was he was going to come
in there and throw strikes and and and not spray
(41:11):
the ball like he did the night before. And you know,
I think props to Joe A. Spotted for putting him
back out there. I Mean, no one expected that he
was going to be ready to pitch, but they needed
him to go out there, and you know, he didn't
probably have you know, a lot left as far as
pitches go, and he went out there and threw strikes
and dominated and got it done.
Speaker 1 (41:27):
And I think that will the world's for their confidence.
Speaker 3 (41:30):
As bad as the loss was in Toronto in the
first game, I think last night's game was one of
their biggest wins. And probably the biggest swing of the
bat of the season was by Janner Diaz with that
homer in the ninth inning.
Speaker 1 (41:40):
How concerned are you about his a velocity being down
a tick or two?
Speaker 3 (41:47):
Not concerned, I mean he was, you know, second day
in a row. I mean, he's pitched a ton of innings. Again,
you know, you'd love to get him more rest. If
you're astros, you just don't have that luxury. I mean,
they're just so thin in the bullpen right now. I
mean they're pretty much a bullpenman short than other teams
because mccullors isn't pitching at all. So I think we're
(42:07):
just at that point of the season when guys are
trying to give it everything they have and they're tired,
and you know, off their astros, you gotta hope you
can maybe win the division by two or three games
and just shut some of these guys down on the
final weekend. But with the way this thing's go and
I don't think that's going to be the case. This
looks like it's going to go down right to the wire.
Speaker 1 (42:25):
Brian McTaggart astros dot Com with us here on Sports
Talk seven ninety great outing last night from Jason Alexander.
I guess if we're calling in a fluid situation, but
as of this moment, he could be your third starter
in a playoff scenario, just as we all predicted.
Speaker 3 (42:43):
Yeah, didn't we all say that at the beginning of
the year they would get him off waivers and he'd
be their third starter.
Speaker 1 (42:48):
I don't know I wrote that at that Maybe not,
but I but yeah, you're right.
Speaker 3 (42:51):
I mean, if you look at their playoff rotation now,
it's clearly going to be Hunter Brown and farmber Valdez.
I mean, despite all the things that's gone on with
fromber last couple of months, he's still your second best
option as a starting pitcher. He's a guy that's that
dominated in the playoffs before, like he did in twenty two,
So he's going to be your number two. But yeah, Alexander,
(43:12):
he's probably your number three. I mean, we're not sure
what Christian Haavier is Yet you know he's got going
to get the ball today. He's certainly got a chance
over the next sixteen games or however many starts he
has three, three, four starts to maybe solidify his spot.
But with the way Alexander threw yesterday, they had won
his previous seven starts before that. Just the guy that
competes and throws strikes and doesn't do it overpowering that
(43:36):
you know, throws that change up to lefties and rightys
and just isn't afraid of anything. He's he's your number
three star. I mean, I think at this point in
the season he's probably earned that, and that probably speaks
more to the injuries they've had to anything else, but
also a tip of the hat to him for, you know,
really coming here and making an impact.
Speaker 1 (43:52):
I was talking to Ross earlier in the day about
jose L Twove getting the day off, and you know,
you would think those days off would be few and
far between, especially this late in the season. Combination of things,
day game, night game. Uh, you have turf field. Every
one of these games are impactful. Oh, by the way,
he's in a slump.
Speaker 2 (44:12):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (44:12):
The base running situation wasn't great. The other day, going
from second to third extra innings, I'm guessing Jose went
to him and said, I'm ready to go. I wanted
to play, and I think probably Joe said, I'm gonna
go ahead and just give you the chance to sit
back and relax. On this one. I felt like yesterday
was as much a mental day for Jose as compared
to just getting him off his feet. Yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 3 (44:34):
I mean, I think there were a lot of reasons that,
I mean, you just ran them all down while you
want to assisted him, and you know he did get
get the the get get the pinch it at bat,
but you're right, he needed a break. And Joe said that,
you know, he talked to all two day after the
game on Tuesday, I'm sure was that point that. I mean,
Joe had probably made up his mind he was going
to give him the day and they probably talked about
(44:55):
it after the game. So give him a chance to
you know, go to bed with a clear head and
come to the park and not have to, you know,
worry about getting ready or you know, studying the starter
or all that. And you know this, you know, he's
a guy that's i think played in more games than
anybody else. So it's been a real grind for him,
and he has not played well for over a month now.
And jose L two Bay is a very prideful guy,
(45:17):
and I know this is probably wearing on him big time.
Speaker 1 (45:20):
But he's also a guy that can turn it around
in a dime.
Speaker 3 (45:23):
Where we could see him go like, you know, seven
for sixteen in a series and absolute carry a team,
So that that could happen, you know, this weekend in Atlanta.
Speaker 1 (45:31):
Who knows, but certainly they need him to get going
here over these.
Speaker 3 (45:36):
Final sixteen games because he's he's gonna hit high in
the lineup, he's gonna be in the middle of some
of their you know, with Alvarez, and if they can
get him going, they make him feel a lot better.
Speaker 1 (45:47):
You mentioned Lance McCullers Junior a couple of minutes ago.
Is he just mop up low leverage you need an
arm to thrown inning, because it feels like and you
kind of alluded to it that that just isn't a
defined role for him right now. Yeah, I think so.
I mean, we saw him come in, you know, I
don't know how long ago.
Speaker 3 (46:05):
It was the X Rating game a few days ago,
and you know, you know, he hasn't I don't know
if he's even warmed up, since I think it's pretty
clear he's probably not going to make a playoff roster,
and then you know, they might have to have some
difficult conversations about him in the offseason. But it's just
clearly just he just doesn't have the stuff. I mean,
he's just you know, he's throwing ninety two, you know,
(46:28):
hitting ninety three. You know, he's getting some swing and miss.
He can pitch a little bit, but the fastball just
just isn't there, and he's not throwing enough strikes, and
it's probably extremely frustrating for him, and this is probably
a low point of his career. But yeah, it certainly
looks like I don't even mop up, is one way
to put it. I mean, I hate to say that
about a guy, but the Astros don't blow any teams out.
(46:48):
I mean generally don't get blown out, so there's no
opportunities to throw a guy out there in a six
run game. They just don't have those, So they got
to keep going to the same guys over and over.
Speaker 1 (46:56):
And you know it's clear that to a spot out
with the way he's use bullpen. He's not one of
those guys. Yeah, as you mentioned, we talked about a Braill,
but the rest of the bullpen as well. They end
up in these high leverage situations and it's going to
continue to happen. I mean, I would say there's a
lot of concerns on this team, but especially in the
pecking order out of a Bray, I just it's hard
(47:16):
for me to have real confidence in this bullpen down
the stretch here. Totally agree.
Speaker 3 (47:23):
I think losing Hater was just a massive blow to
this team. I mean, you could put Bennett, Susa and
ort in there as well, but losing Hater, you know,
a guy who's having a tremendous season. Now you're moving
guys into roles and not used to. It just takes
a key arm out of your bullpen. And I agree.
I mean, I think that's the real issue they're going
to have, is just closing out games. And you know,
(47:46):
if their starter goes six innings, how do you piece
together those final four innings and then how do you
do it again two days later at pressure situations in
the postseason against They're going to be playing very very
good teams Toronto, Detroit, you know, Seattle or or whomever.
So that's gonna be a real challenge going forward. You know,
I guess there's still a chance Hater could come back.
(48:06):
I don't think he's even throwing yet, so it seems unlikely.
But yeah, I think that's just the one issue they're
really gonna have to overcome. And that's why, you know,
I really don't see them making a long playoff run.
It's just with the injuries they've had to the bullpen.
Speaker 1 (48:21):
So let's wrap up our conversation with a little bit
of a glass half full situation. They have had all
these things from runners in scoring position to slumps, to injuries,
to bullpen to whatnot, and they're still sitting here with
a game leading the American League West. If they are
to survive this, if you were to write the storyline
of wow, these last fifteen games were so good because
of how would you fill that out? Do you think?
(48:42):
Or how does it have to happen?
Speaker 3 (48:45):
I think they're gonna have to. I think it's gonna
come down to hitting. I mean, they're just gonna have to.
They're gonna have to get a few guys hot. They're
gonna have to slug a few teams. They can't come
home and go, you know, two for thirty with runners
in scoring position in a series, they're going to get beat.
They're just gonna have to I just think they're gonna
have to outscore out slug teams. I mean they're pitching,
is what it is. You feel good when Hunter Brown
(49:07):
takes the ball. Not sure about Valdez. I mean, Alexander,
you feel pretty good. Uh beyond that, who knows. So Uh,
They're just gonna have to find a way to score
runs and not getting these prolonged slumps, not not only
not getting slumps, but come through in the clutch. I
mean they they the runners in scoring position cannot be
an issue. So to me, that's what it's gonna come
down to, is just can they can they hit? Can
(49:29):
they hit over these final six games enough to get
them to that division title?
Speaker 1 (49:33):
Man Taggart, great stuff is always friends. Safe travels to
the atl and we'll talk you with you again next week.
All right, Thanks GV. That's Bryan McTaggart MLB dot Com
with US year at eleven fourteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.
I just don't get it, ROSSI an extremely lighthearted edition
off I just don't get it coming up at about
fifteen minutes here on Sports Talks, sim Ay, if it's
something great life, you just don't get. There's a lot
(49:54):
I don't get. I know, but we're trying to keep
it like seven one three two, one two five seven
ninety seven one three two won two five seven. Nutti
matten Ross with you at eleven nineteen on Sports Talk seven,
Nutti so McTaggart says, Rossly, they just got a hit.
(50:18):
Will that be enough? Bullpen makes me nervous? Isn't it crazy?
If we went back and looked listen to our air
checks of our show three months ago, we would be
talking about how nails this bullpen is. We were talking
about there was a pluthora of left handed relievers. Josh
Hater is having his best season by far as an
(50:38):
astro in the two seasons he's he was so good
he made the All Star team. You had Brian or Bray,
who with an earned run average of under one as
an eighth inning guy. You had Caleb Ord, and you
had who else has been the mix? Not Colton Gordon,
Stephen Oakert, who was the guy that was so good
got hurting and sucking, got letting let him go a
few weeks back. All these names are just running running
(51:00):
a mix to me. Talked about Sean Dubin. Sean Duban,
remember how good Sean Dubin was at the first a
couple of months. Yeah, they got dfad, poor guy, like
four bad outing stuff like all right, that's enough. And
Taylor Scott who sucked, Yes, Tim another team got yeah,
and then he came back and he sucked again, So
he was here for a short term. How did it happen?
Speaker 2 (51:20):
Hot?
Speaker 1 (51:21):
Well, John very easy, Josh Hayter and Bennett Susa got
hurt and Brian and Brady has been shaky the last
few times out. So we were saying, Kayla Board got
hurt too. Yeah, we were going Bennett's were saying, Bennett's
Susa is hurting and it's truth, it is the truth.
But that did not ring up as a wow. If
the Astros bullpen goes south in September, it's because of
the loss of Bennett Susa. Well, Josh Hayter obviously right
(51:43):
is number one, yep, And yeah, leverage. Most teams don't
have more than two or three good leverage guys. The
Astros had three and two of them are hurting, one
of them is underperforming. But at least he got you.
He bounced back and got you saved last night. Yeah,
so yeah, I'm feeling shaky and they got Look last
night leverage situations, you're going to Steven Okert, who's I mean, look,
(52:03):
I mean he's okay. And then Enio delo Sentos, who
was released by the Braves or the Braves suck and
they're like, no, we don't need Enio della Sentos. And
then you're also going to Craig Kimbrell, I believe, also
for the Braves again released he actually pitched one time.
He pitched one time for the Braves, was on ice
for two and a half months. Literally as we discussed
(52:23):
her around the deadline, like eighteen to nineteen. Teams are
in playoff races, and by the way, they all said,
we're good. I know, he's one of the all time saves. Later,
he's not the second most important arm in the bullpen
right now. It's Brian King Okay, because the limited I've
seen at Kimbrel hadn't been great. Bed Okay hasn't given
up an earned run yet, I know, but he hasn't
(52:45):
been walking everybody, but he's the walk totals high is
unreliable and inherited runners to me is a big one.
Does that go against some of the runners at second bases?
I considered inherited. That's an unearned runk think it's in there.
I don't think it's inherent. Heerit. Okay, point is this,
there are some guys you can put a runner at
second base, like you put Josh a runner second magically
appearing runner. I believe what they are like who thin air,
(53:08):
new runner? Who is out there a second base? That's
exactly what the the category I believe is that new
runner who is in our w D thank you? Uh yeah,
I have very little faith in him, as did everybody
else in baseball. You are you are uh you are
(53:29):
piecemelling this. You are you are using one band aid
after the other. It's I was saying that we've have
been saying, they're holding it together with duct tape. Right now,
they're holding it together with bubble gum. Now there have
been there have been some fresh pieces, but it's still
bubble gum. A fresh piece of bubble gum. Yeah, Okay,
what do you think I was saying? Ok who doesn't
(53:51):
like fresh piece. Oh okay, so Brain's unavailable tonight for sure,
and if he's out there, I'm going to have to
probably fly to Atlanta and meet the training staff and say,
what the hell are you doing? Do you want one
more player in the injury list? I don't think he's
gonna get used. Okay, Then that begs the question, who's
(54:13):
your closer? Now if you need a closing situation? Kimber
Wllo King probably right, kimberlo King, Kimber's done it. King's
been better. You didn't use King yesterday. Now again King
being a lefty. What if you're facing a bunch of
right handed hitters.
Speaker 7 (54:34):
No King.
Speaker 1 (54:34):
You know King's reverse splits, He's he's better at getting right,
he's out the left. This is strange that we we
have to that. The natural assumption, and I just did
it here, was that you want your lefty to go
against lefties because it's typically left handed hitters have a
hard time seeing lefties. But it's the reverse. Some guys
are weird. I think, well, at least for a couple
of days. Jordan's career OPS is better against lefties. Yeah,
it's just really high against no matter who he goes
(54:57):
you know what I'm thinking it is because I know
I'm not a professional hitter, but don't want if it's
because you just naturally when you're a left handed hitter
you have to be more patient against the lefties that
maybe you're not as free of a swinger. If you're
facing a right handed bat. Generally a lefty they're breaking
stuff is going to go glove side as into their
right and that's going to fall away from a lefty. Yeah,
so it's a little more predictable. Yeah, I get it
(55:19):
all right. Seven one three two one two five seven nine.
If you want to chime in on the conversation seven
one three two one two five seven nine zero. If
you want to follow us on Twitter, maybe that as
well and Instagram of course, at sports RV is the
better the two accounts. Wow, but mine's worthy of a follow.
Ten you at sports RV on Instagram. I would appreciate
your follow at sports empty if you have time, I
(55:42):
want to record this, you no need to record it.
I'm trying to be struck by lightning. I'm trying to
be a new I'm trying to be a newer, better person.
But what I embrace that man by the way, the
latest odds are out for who is going to win
the American League and the World Series. Uh okay, can
I say Tigers the new favorite to win the American League?
(56:09):
The New York Yankees? Oh please, you know all the
reason why. They're just crushing the baseball. If you were
to go bet the Yankees, if you were to go
bet the Yankees to win the World Series, you'd get
eight and a half one on to win the World
Series of the Ale penn Ale pen excuse me, I'll
make sure clear that clarify that. Well, actually that sound true.
Let me look at here. This is no because he's
(56:30):
got every team listed here, both National American. So uh,
these Jays are three games ahead of the Yankees. Yeah, no,
this is this is the win the World Series. Eight
and a half to one. There they're the favorites overall. No, no, no,
the Yankees. The Dodgers are favorites overall four to one.
The Browers are six to one, The Phillies are six
and a half to one. Then the Yankees are eight
(56:52):
and a half to one, The Tigers are nine to one,
the Blue Jay's nine to one, The potteris ten to one.
The Astros' just gonna say, you haven't said. The Extros
keep running, You keep running teams down. How much longer
do you think I was gonna go? The Astros are
twelve to one, which would put them one two three,
the fourth highest favored team to win the American League.
(57:13):
Astros have better odds in the Mets. They have better
odds than the Mariners. They've got better odds in the
Red Sox, the Cubs, and then the biggest discrepancy, so
the Cubs are sixteen to one along with the Red Sox.
The next favorite team after the Cubs are the Rangers
at forty to one. That's a pretty steep drop off there.
(57:34):
I'd me feel a little froggy on the twelve to
one for the Astros if Hater and SUSA were healthy,
but since they're not, I would it's a massive stay
away to mate, There's too many things. Can I have
rotation questions, line up questions and bullpen questions other than
that great squad? And I brought this up with mctack
a little bit ago. You got it. You got it,
not literally a dead arm, but figuratively a dead arm.
(57:56):
In Lance mc colors. He didn't throw the play. You
get you get one extra picture in the month of
September and he doesn't play. I mean that contract. There's
gonna there's gonna be a very, very difficult offseason for
the Astros organization. Oh, I feel like LMC is easy.
(58:16):
We'll give you fifteen million take him, but I mean
gives some a ball prospect. It's gonna be somebody they're
gonna tell a guy that helped them win a World Series.
Granted was also twenty seventeen. It's been a while. Yeah,
you're you're washed. Well, they told Alex Peig when he
wasn't worth it. He walked, George Springer, Carlos Care. I mean,
we can go down the list, Garrett Cole, but there's
(58:41):
a difference, and those guys were leaving at least with
a future ahead of them. Well, Lance can go and
get like I don't know if he's gonna get probably trade.
I'm gonna imagine a trade with a lot of money
being sent away. Yep. I'll Rafael Montero and if you
(59:02):
get anything back in return to cent maybe Now the
Astros have done a nice job of getting guys back somehow,
some way, But if you're really gonna pay for somebody decent.
You gotta pay that contract. Mhm. And and I told
you this before. If I'm a Lance, I embrace it.
I know he's even bury me in going to that. Yeah,
but there's just bad juju. We bury me in Sacramento.
So yeah, good luck. Yeah, let's go as He's like,
(59:25):
what all right?
Speaker 7 (59:26):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (59:27):
We need some extremely lighthearted I just don't get it,
okay seven one three two one two five seven nutty
seven one three two one two five seven nine zero.
There's something in your life you just don't get. M
We're here to help you. I am the OG of
the group, bye, only by by by a considerable amount. Unfortunately,
(59:50):
Ross is the single guy around town. Jonathan is just
confused in general? Is that? What does that mean?
Speaker 2 (59:59):
Well?
Speaker 1 (01:00:00):
Don't what do you imply? I was just kidding, Well,
you were in three different generations. I'm an elder millennial,
you're gen X, I don't know what I am. And
this guy's a zoomer. Yeah who we're all says we
say gen Z. By the way, did you like faith today?
I forgot to ask you. I actually really liked it. Okay,
I want to call you boomer and zoomer whenever I'm
(01:00:21):
out on the internet only show Yeah, Boomer and Zoom.
I think mess gen X. I just needs a Boomer.
I need some Jared Tall Well, I'm in twenty nine
seven one three two one two five seventy. There's something
like you just don't get let us know seven one
three two one two five seven ninety all right, Sometimes
on things I just don't get, I actually get, but
(01:00:42):
I just want to get verification on these things. Sports
Harvey And by the way, if there's something in your
life you just don't get and it's extraordinarly lighthearted, we're
here for you at seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five seventy.
So yesterday, my wife, we don't eat a lot of
junk at the house. I find I actually eat most
of my junk on the when I'm at restaurants. We
don't keep a lot of junk on the house. But
(01:01:03):
my wife is like, I want to go try this
Ruerel's Pecan pie ice cream. All right, Okay, So she
so she goes and gets it and we each have
a small scoop of it. It's absolutely delicious. I mean,
it's it's tastes like butter pecan, but it's still it's
got little pieces of the pie in it, so it
(01:01:25):
just eat it adds to it. So I go on
Twitter and I put, hey, uh, this Ruerel's pecan pie
scream is good or I got some replies and a
couple of dms that said that's not the best one.
You should try this. I wasn't looking for your comparisons
to do so I did not solicit is it as
(01:01:46):
good as what you guys are eating? No, it was
just like that was a It was a declarative generic statement,
and I was and I was getting the well, you know,
cookies and creams the best, or homemade vanilla is the best.
I didn't ask a pole question like a cookie two step,
you know what I mean. I was like, I just
don't tell y'all. If you like the compie, which I do,
is one of my favorite pies. Yeah, the ice cream
(01:02:09):
is excellent. You should go get some. It was just
a blanket generic statement and it became a no, no, no,
this one's better. I was like, I just don't get it.
That is what is that called in your psychology world
sports Harvey? That is interesting? No, I don't know, but
I know exactly what you're saying, because you could if
(01:02:29):
you say, Matt or for example, when you put you'd
put some briske, we put a video of you eating brisket. Correct,
and you're eating brisket at a certain place and you say, hey,
this brisket is good. You get eight thousand suggestions of
where people's places. Oh, this place is better, the place sucks,
so you can go here. Uh, why are you even eat?
Why are you even wasting your stomach space on that?
(01:02:50):
Let's go go here? It is. It is very weird
people like to I don't even know if you want
to call it a correct to correct others now out
is superiority complace? Use If I said that Rurel's the
COMPI ice cream is the best, and then I put period,
Then I said fight me. Then then yeah, you said
(01:03:11):
a response, You're like, fight me on it, or this
is the best and then or whatever. There's no argument. Like,
for instance, if I would if I say the two
funniest movies I've ever seen in my entire life are
Airplane and The Hangover, then you start getting suggested you
get best. True. I don't know. I guess I don't
get it either. I don't get it. Why we just
can't hit either the like or just move on. You're right, because,
(01:03:37):
for example, Jonathan and I are going to a local
burger joint yeah after, and if I put it on
Twitter that we're going there, we'd get one hundred suggestions
of other burger joints we should Can you please? Can
we try this as an example? You want it, tweet
it out or when we go there. When you go
there and say, hey, uh, you're going to make a post,
I'll post it on my Instagram story at sports r
V Jonathan and I are going going to this place
(01:04:01):
and the burger is amazing, and just leave it at that. Okay,
you will get of your replies. You should try this now,
okay because that my burger place is better than yours.
I won't say where we're going, but I'll post it
on my Instagram at sports r When we go later today,
they are going Dutch. Are you buying? I'm buying? That's nice.
I appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (01:04:21):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:04:21):
Nice Jonathan. Wow, No, actually I'm sitting here like thinking
about this. No, I just don't get it.
Speaker 5 (01:04:28):
Go ahead, and I've never noticed that about people till today,
Like you're making me realize like everybody does that no
matter where you're at, and.
Speaker 1 (01:04:34):
They're not trying to be rude, they're just trying to
say that. It's almost like a dismissive. We don't believe
what you're saying. People like to it's like discussion. I
guess like I don't Yeah, I don't know. People like
to make things about themselves. So I could say the ruerels,
but compie, I scream is good? Is there a better
(01:04:54):
one out there that would mean? Hey, let me know.
I just stick simply declared how good it was, and
it was just like it was, no, you gotta try
this one, you gotta try, like, oh my god. I
just I should never should have said anything because reu
Worl didn't spending money with us. But I was just saying,
you want a little treat comby with damn good Yeah,
So that's my I just don't get it for this week.
(01:05:16):
Thank you, Matt. Thank you. If you have something in
life you don't get seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven nine zero, which you got, I think you're gonna
say you get it, okay, but I need an I
guess further explanation. Why now I know why recently Astros
(01:05:37):
fans are very like pessimistic about every single thing. And
one of the reasons that I post my how we
feel in tweets, I'm gonna tell you the actual reason
I started doing that. It's to demonstrate that the majority
of the time it turns out okay when certain reliever
comes in or this situation and everybody gets all worried,
but everybody's always so defeat is and so angry and like.
(01:06:00):
For example, Chandler Rome will put out the lineup of
the day and generally seventy five to eighty percent of
the comments are about how horrible the lineup is and
how the Astros aren't gonna score any runs, and how
this jo Aspota is an idiot. Why for a team
that is vying for their ninth straight in a full season,
(01:06:24):
not counting twenty twenty ninth straight division championship, is everyone
so negative and defeatist. I really don't get it. I
actually get it, Okay, See I thought you said I
explain it to me. First of all, again, it's easier
to complain about something going wrong as compared to hoping
something goes right. Yeah, but a to the point of
where it's eighty to ninety percent yep. And secondly, the
(01:06:46):
Astros have played for twenty baseball for two months. If
the astron this is last year, This is not even
just now. This is like when they're winning one hundred games.
People calling a J. Hinch an idiot. Oh, there are
people bumping around in town that will not forgive aj
Hinch for using Will Harris in the World Series game.
I think I'm sitting one next to person right next
to me, right, Are you okay with it? What I've
(01:07:08):
defended that I was tolled up to this day. He
was on two days rest, folks. They said they were
gonna use him in a closer's role. Closer situation did
not come up. Maybe that was four producers ago. I'm sorry,
I'm people mixed up. Well, I was co hosting at
that time. Twenty nineteen, Okay, that's what I got it.
That's when they broke me in his bad Boy in
studio nineteen. Yeah, six years. I've made it in this
(01:07:32):
business that's a lifetime and other business doing well. All right, No,
I think it's a byproduct, at least for twenty twenty
five of a team that has performed very poorly in
the last three months, and the natural inclination of I
am a better manager or a coach than the current
manager or coach of said team. But I've been doing
(01:07:53):
that how you feel in tweet for a good six seven,
eight years? Whatever it is. I I almost typed it,
my son. I'm like, wait a man, I'm about the
bitch jil Ross. I can't do that, and and and
like I said, the reason I do is because people
are so I just don't get the eighty eighty percentage
of people being so negative and defeatis It's weird. But anyways,
all right, Jonathan, what don't you get?
Speaker 5 (01:08:14):
You know, growing up watching NFL it was actually it
was so much fun when you get like someone got
a big pop or a big hit and it will
be in their face, you know, talking mess yes.
Speaker 1 (01:08:22):
And then I forgot what I think it.
Speaker 5 (01:08:23):
Was the Bills game and someone got a fifteen yar
apildy for taunting or something that a big like second,
and I just I thought it, even like in a
business standpoint, wouldn't that bring more attention to your league,
especially because you already crack down the targeting rules and
all that stuff, and you're protecting the players. Why can't
the Why can't we celebrate? Why can't we tie after
a first down or like a tackle? So you want
(01:08:45):
more taunting and more passion, more energy, you know, like
these guys are getting paid minutes dollars to go dog fight.
I want to lie to them, like, you know, celebrate,
you know, like yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:08:54):
Yeah, you know when you when you have a hard
tackle or a great pass deflected, you're supposed to just go, okay,
I'm gonna you know what, I don't get it either.
I think I think the NFL is way too quick
to throw the flag I have. It's funny, Jonathan, you've
stumbled against something. I've been on many soap boxes on
this show for many years. Taunting has been one of them.
(01:09:16):
These are grown adults making fifty million dollars a year,
and the counter argument generally is, well, you know, I
don't know if you want to see them starting fights
and then they're gonna get well, let them fight then,
and then throw them out if you can't control your emotions,
like I think the famous example of was it Antoine
Winfield throwing up the piece, that throwing up the piece
to Tyreek Hill who threw it up to him when
(01:09:37):
he went and got a touchdown. That's fun. That's hilarious.
That's good. Stuffy h If you're cracking somebody in half
on an NFL football field and you want to, you know,
and it's legal, you want to flex up on them.
Speaker 5 (01:09:48):
Yeah, that's fun. And you know the dude getting hit
is tucking mess back. So like why, I don't know,
I just be The answer is.
Speaker 1 (01:09:54):
The NFL, especially the owners of the last couple of years,
they're like, oh, we need to crack all. They're not
conducting themselves in its sportsmen like men. They don't want fights,
they don't want fights to get out of control, and
you people get hurt. That's exactly the reason why. Yeah,
that respect, I get it. I mean, how many taunting
penalties have we seen and how many fights have we
seen resulted from the taunting? Generally it's from like the
hard hits. It's like when as is alsha here is
(01:10:16):
like decapitating uh Trevor Lawrence. That's that's that's when the
fights start and then he starts throwing punches. Yeap. Generally
taught like for example, a wide receiver standing over the
dB and going first down that that more than ninety
nine percent of the time does not start a fighting.
(01:10:37):
Can I get some new material on that? By the way,
everybody Dalton Shultz did it like three times. Who's that
wide receiver for the Texans? Didn't a couple of cats?
The Texans have been doing it with the world. Yeah,
like that, some new material. What do you want first down?
Speaker 2 (01:10:54):
You know what?
Speaker 1 (01:10:55):
I want?
Speaker 3 (01:10:55):
A h.
Speaker 1 (01:10:57):
About the nom state. But how about a curtsy? A curtsy? Yeah? Explain? Yeah,
how you do the women do the curtsy that the
dances befo, they go on the dance flore they do
it goertzy. Okay, there's a brainstorm, No bad ideas in
a brain smell. How about the what's so when you
(01:11:19):
do this? What's this one called the uh? Are you
doing the mashed potato or the cavsat the cat? Well,
it's not nineteen ninety two or the Elaine Bennie. You
dance like that and you move your legs around like that. Okay,
it's not nineteen ninety seven. All right? How about the jig?
Excuse me? Like this, I can invent a bunch of
(01:11:40):
new things. No one's doing the jig out that I
get a first nat I'm just saying, I mean, can
you change it up a little touch down? I mean, well,
because also the No Fun League people tryed to do
all these these these in zone celebrations and then they
try to throw flags for that time one for you
when you intercept the ball, don't go right to the
other end of the field that and go for the picture. Yeah,
that's gotten it.
Speaker 2 (01:11:59):
Going for the cameras.
Speaker 1 (01:12:00):
Yeah, zero zero zero shark. I liked it at first,
but now it's gonna jump the shark. I'm with you,
all right, Love in forty five, you got something you
just don't get, let us know. Seven one three two
one two five seven Nutty seven one three two one
two five seven Nutty, all right, last opportunity for you
to come in and tell us what you do not
(01:12:22):
get and we can help you at seven one three
two one two five seven unting things you just don't get. Ross,
What are you running here for? You gotta go to
the bathroom. You gotta go the bathroom. I can judging you.
I was getting some water matts all the hydrate. Yeah,
it's gotta be a thirty two ounce. That's at thirty
two or forty four on the old TC iced tea. There,
(01:12:42):
that's forty four ounce, isn't it. That's too much caffeine
for me in that rate? Forty four mine, Yeah, that's
too much tea. Yeah, I'll be pan for days. Alright, alright,
let's go James on seven ounty. James, what do you
not get?
Speaker 4 (01:13:00):
Yeah, Matt, I don't want to sounded greatful anything, but
I want a contest I believe it or not. Yesterday
and I'm trying to get my tickets and I had
to call your business line and they said, well, they
send email. I said, well, how do y'all know my email?
All you know me is from change some time, and
they go, well, and then I have to get a
little bit marvel more. I just we shall have the
(01:13:21):
easier way for me to get my prize.
Speaker 1 (01:13:22):
I would agree. Why don't you Jonathan? Can't we get
him hooked up? Little lazier that seems like a lot
of hot can't if you want to believe it or not?
Speaker 5 (01:13:30):
Or what? Yeah, if you would have if you want then,
but yeah, I took those tickets for yesterday, those two contestants.
So we have given Friday there if you want to
give it Friday give up Friday.
Speaker 4 (01:13:41):
Ye give up Friday.
Speaker 1 (01:13:42):
Yeah this is they should have been on there. But
that's fine. We will hug the brother up. You gotta
go the game, Okay, yeah, we don't wait. We don't
want to make it difficult for you to win spectacular
Houston Cougar versus Colorado tickets the game was, it's really
give me the game. The you're in college football. I know,
I know a m is playing other day, but really
the buzz in America's on Colorado versus Houston. I don't like.
(01:14:06):
When is it played tomorrow night on the Oak Show. No,
it's on the ESPN the mother Ship. Oh wow, must
because of Coach Prime. No, it's uh it's the Houston
Cougars and well they first against the team from Boulder.
I believe it's probably because it's Colorado and Coach Prime.
(01:14:26):
I listened. I listened to his press confrace yesterday. You
can uh, you could be the the barnacle on the
ride of the ship with the Colorado Buffaloes. What a
SpongeBob have has anything to do with this? Texas long
ones with a huge game on SEC Network. By the way,
I had another one. Here's what I don't get I
(01:14:47):
mean I do get it, but I don't. So what
Nebraska is playing a game this week and Nebraska will
fill up cupcakes here? Uh huh. They're playing HBU HCU
on Saturday. So what. HCU shouldn't even have a football
I didn't know that they had a football team. Well,
they better get to praying. I mean, they're gonna get
(01:15:08):
to check but they're gonna get annihilated. Yeah, I mean,
I'm not talking like thirty seven to nothing. Oh. By
the way, Texas UTEP announces a sellout matt so there'll
be one hundred thousand plus a lot of it must
be a lot of minor fans in the Austin metropolitan area.
I don't think so. Because they're forty point dogs. I
(01:15:30):
think it's forty or forty one. By the way, if
you want to do bet the HCU Nebraska game, you
may not be able to do that, not even on
the board. Not even on the board. Generally, closer to
the end of the weekend they slap something up there.
Look at okay, look at this U. Indiana's playing Indiana
State this week. They're a forty eight and a half
point favorite. Interstate rival Northwestern is oh Northwestern is home
(01:15:56):
this week. Yeah for Oregon, Yeah, Northwestern the games in Chicago.
Oregon is a twenty eight and a half point favorite
on the road. I mean, my god. No. The best
part of that is the total is only forty eight
and a half, so they think it's going to be
(01:16:17):
thirty eight to ten if they're lucky. USC is going
to Purdue, and USC is a twenty point five point
favorite at Purdue. Yeah, but rearly, scheduling Purdue is decent.
It's not scheduling. They're big ten opponents. Oh that's right. God,
I forgot about that. Yeah, they about that. That's crazy.
(01:16:40):
Ronggot that's a conference game. That's ridiculous. USC Purdue should
not be a conference game. And of course Ohio State
trying to play the equally difficult non conference schedule. That
Texas is homeing home for Ohio, that's the Ohio border war.
Ohio is a Ohio State's a thirty and a half
point favorite. Hey played one big one and three cupcakes.
I was playing UMass thirty five and a half Ooh, jesus,
(01:17:04):
you know what. I can't watch these games. There are
some good games, though, what's the best top twenty five.
It's got to be eight and Notre Dame as you mentioned.
H Uh, what is Oklahoma doing? Going to play in
Temple Wisconsin? Alabama in theory would be good, but Wisconsin's
not very good. This year's three touchdown favorite. And then
some Georgia Tennessee. Okay, South Florida Miami. That is the
(01:17:29):
biggest game ever on the CW by the way they're
claiming it. Florida LSU was supposed to be good, but
Florida got trounced last week. Oh, this makes me happy.
Texas Tech is playing Oregon State. The Cougars play Oregon
Stein in two weeks. Texas Tech is a twenty three
and a half point favorite against the Beavers. Oh this
is all good News's Tech looking two? And oh two?
(01:17:51):
And oh baby wow? Two huge wins for the Texas Tech.
Do you wonder know who they played? Oh there's somebody
just off god awful right, Arkansas Pine Bluff? That's yep?
Who are the uh Red Buffaloes? You're actually that's not
the craziest thing. Golden Lions allons. Okay, Golden Red Buffalo
(01:18:12):
same difference. I get you, I get you. I'll give
you like a quick credit, give me credit, quarter credit credit?
All right? And then they beat Kent State, which, of
course are they? You know Kent State team had lost
twenty two in a row. There their mascot, the Golden Flashes. Yeah,
I know that because of Antonio Gates. Mm mmmmm, nicely done.
(01:18:36):
All right, the news and Noon is next. People, including myself, Rossy,
lost faith in the Astros two days ago after blowing
that three to one lead, losing an extra innings Briana Bury,
you struggled, Astros could not get runners in scoring position.
Joselo two Bay got thrown out on a play from
first to third. I'm running from second to third. I
lost faith? Was I going to get it back after
(01:18:57):
last night? You'll find out next eleven fifty eight on
Sports Talk seven ninety I got Havel and yes, Rossie,
we have faith in the local nine. They won yesterday. Unfortunately,
so did the Rangers, and so did the Seattle Mariners.
Although the Cardinals hopefully test them a little bit. Astros
(01:19:17):
find themselves one game in front of the Seattle Mariners
Houston at seventy nine and sixty seven. The Seattle Mariners,
who look as long as they're home, they don't lose,
it's just a reality of it. On the road, they're different,
something different. But right now the Mariners find themselves at
seventy eight and sixty eight. The Rangers are two and
(01:19:37):
a half out at seventy seven and seventy. The Mariners
are seventeen games above five hundred on the at home,
and they are seven under on the road. They have
won five in a row, and they're starting a four
game set with the Los Angeles Angels. Well, you had
(01:19:58):
a four game home set against the Angels and you
split it, So no, since crying Astros should have got
it done. Would you like a terrible analogy? I forget
of the news at noon? Yeah, let's go Ross. You said, hey,
you go out, Matt, you go out with that girl? Uh, huh?
How is your date? It was okay, m Now it's
my turn to go out with her. Huh. And she
(01:20:20):
likes me a lot more she likes you. That is
a terrible analogy and quite a fantasy. So basically, I
have a chance to date the girl the Angels, and
I didn't get very far in your dating the Angels,
and you're sleeping with her. This is getting weird time
now they haven't slept with him yet. Well, you think
they're going to twelve six on sports talks of it?
(01:20:43):
Out of it again, We need to donate your brain
to science. Time now for the news, dude, Well that yes,
thats you'll bet you. The Astros get the victory last night.
Speaker 3 (01:20:53):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:20:54):
Most importantly, despite the Astros going one for eight with
UH runners in the scoring position, and we do reach
for comment, the Jake Myers fan club did not have
one on him, going zero for four with runners in
scoring position. Oh for four in the game, all four
opportunities to run in a score position, with three strikeouts
in a groundout, but anyways, one for eight overall for
(01:21:16):
the offense. However, Jason Alexander was huge. Seven innings of
shutout ball, just three hits, one walk, also had three strikeouts.
He gets a very potent Blue Jays lineup. He did
very well in Dello Santos and Steven Okerk combining to
give up a couple of runs there in the eighth.
But Brian Bray you thirty pitches the day before. We
(01:21:39):
were all worried there was another tick down with the
petrified with the tick down with the velocity. But he
was able to get it done to notch his fifth
save of the season. Joe Spotta showed confidence in his guy,
and he rewarded him with a one two three outing
of the night. And through what only eleven pitches yesterday,
car Ravin pitches eight of a for strikes now also
(01:22:02):
some of them. If mctaggerting worried about it, I ain't
scared either, mctager said, he's not worried. That's fine, We're
not worried. If you missed the Brian mctager conversation part
of the On Deck show, come up in an ounce
it will Astro's back in action two o seven. First pitch,
one o'clock. We get the Astros on deck coming your way.
Christian Javier versus Kevin Goussman. Astros out a plus one
(01:22:23):
thirty five. Blue Ja's up to a minus one sixty.
So if you want the Blue Jays to win, you're
gonna bet them. You have to bet one hundred and
sixty dollars to win one hundred. Since betting is illegal
in the state of Texas, this will not be an issue. Yeah,
and then the Astros will head to Atlanta for a
weekend three game sets. How we feeling.
Speaker 2 (01:22:45):
Mid.
Speaker 1 (01:22:48):
Mid sounds about right. Mid sounds about fair as well.
All right. Moving along in the news at noon, Matt
More keeps coming up about this whole Kawhi Leonard Steve
Balmer Clippers situation, and I'm sticking to my gut feeling
saying that something bad happened here, but also the Clippers
have enough paperwork to cover it up. Let me ask
you this, if this thing gets super bad, like they
(01:23:11):
find out the juice on this is legit, well, the
general sports population even particularly care. I don't know if
the general population will care, but it's a huge deal.
I think have one. I think it'd be We're talking
multiple draft picks in a massive fine, is what should happen. Anyways, Uh, Pablotory,
of course came out with the story a couple of
(01:23:31):
a week ago or so at this point whenever it
was that Kawhi Leonard was paid twenty eight million dollars
on a side endorsement deal. Then Steve Balmer came out
and fired back and said this was not true. Now
Pabulatory is reporting another story related to this, that the
Clippers sent two million dollars to a bankrupt company that
(01:23:53):
allegedly allegedly gave Kawhi Leonard an endorsement deal for a
no show job less than ten days before this star
Forward was paid one point seven five million by the company.
As in Clippers paid the company the money that Kawhi
Leonard said he was short. Then that money somehow found
its way to Kawhi Leonard. Okay, the phrase you years
(01:24:16):
is where there's smoke, there's fire. I feel like there's
an inferno being blown up here right, yes, yes. And
Steve Balmer, by the way, went to ESPN Los Angeles
went to their studios. Ramona Sharboard. Now she's she's she
carries the water for the LA Sports team. There's nony
fans or butts about you. She does uh asked quote
(01:24:37):
unquote probing questions. And my guess is the Clippers thought
that after that conversation with ESPN, that Steve Balmer, the
owner of the Clippers, comes across as well. He you know,
he just told ESPN he didn't do it, so he
must not have done it. This there's it's something. It's
way too fishy ross it just is. Yeah, so his
payday was running late, was Kawhi Leonard? Then a it
(01:24:58):
was not Steve Balmer directly, but a Clipper's co owner
sent one point nine nine million dollars to Aspiration the
company and then all of a sudden, Kawhi Leonards one
point seventy five million dollar payment came through. So what
are they saying what that one point nine nine million
dollars was for? If it wasn't to pay off an
investment in the company Aspiration? Okay, it makes perfect sense.
Speaker 2 (01:25:21):
This.
Speaker 1 (01:25:25):
This feels like the hammer could come down the more
that that comes down on this. Let me ask you this,
And this is again not trying to be pointed this way.
Steve Balmer is probably one of the three or foremost
influential NBA owners. I think did we look it up
eighth most rich person in America or something like that. Yeah,
is he going to tell Adam Silver, look, I bailed
(01:25:46):
you out of this darling sterling mess. You'll leave me
alone on this? And how do the other twenty owners
in the NBA feel about it?
Speaker 3 (01:25:54):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:25:54):
I think, well, there have been reports that you know,
from a no anonymous nobodys say anything publicly, right, Apparently
there are teams who are yeah, they're they're pissed about this.
They should be you circremated the system. There were guys
that want Kawhi Leonard. Now, granted it's been a terrible
contract for the Clippers, but when the Clippers sign originally
won a terrible contract, Adam Silver saying it would be
up to the NBA to prove wrongdoing by the Clippers. Quote,
(01:26:15):
I think, as with any process that requires a fundamental
sense of fairness, the burdens should be on the party
that is in essence bringing those charges, saying the NBA's guy,
I guess they're gonna have to launch their own investigation
about this. Yeah, Adam Silver's right on there. You can't
wait to get this thing resolved. M M all right.
(01:26:39):
Well we also have the Adam Silver comments when asked
about the league getting spread too thin with all of
these streaming services to where an NBA consumer has to
spend a lot of money to consume NBA media, Adam
Silver not worried about it.
Speaker 6 (01:26:57):
There's a huge amount of our content can essentially consume
for free. I mean this is very much a highlights
based sport. You know, so you know on Instagram, TikTok,
you know, Twitter, you name it, any service you know.
The New York times for that matter, to the extent
that your content is not behind a paid firewall. There's
(01:27:18):
an enormous amount of content out there YouTube, by another example,
that people that is advertising based that consumers can consume.
Speaker 1 (01:27:28):
So there, it's a highlight league. We're not worried about
them watching the games. Is that what Peacock wants to
hear is Prime Video want to hear Adam Silver say,
I can catch highlights. We don't want them to sign
up for Prime Video to watch the games. Again. Inside
Voice would have been the perfect player. And that, my friends,
is the newser do one more quick thing back Commanders
and Packers Packers minus three and a half on on
(01:27:49):
Prime Video tonight. Your thoughts green Bay look? I like
green Bay look spectacular against the Lions this past Sunday.
Jordan loved Jade Daniels be a cracker of a match
tonight on Prime Video. And I will find a way
to watch the game sessions in the my home. Yeah
you don't you got Prime I know you got got
a Prime package. Let me tell you something. You could
(01:28:11):
put games on the Hallmark channel. I'd figure out a
way to watch the game. I just got charged for
my Prime and that yearly charge hits. You're like, dang,
I forgot how much is it? I literally don't know
for the whole service for the year. Yeah, for delivering
and all that stuff. So it's probably not free shipping.
Speaker 2 (01:28:26):
No what they call you.
Speaker 1 (01:28:27):
Let say you saved eighteen dollars unshipping. No, why I didn't? No,
I paid it exactly, Okay, all right, makes sense? Twelve fourteen.
It is that Matt Thomas show was going up too.
I thought the economics said they trickled down economics, that
these guys are gonna get richer, and it was gonna
trickle down to all of us. But the price keeps
going up. It makes sense to me, you know, you
(01:28:48):
know why, because there's Jabroni's like myself that doesn't know
how much it costs. You are ruining our It's my fault.
I apologize. I'm only gonna blame anyone else. No, yeah,
I was gonna say, you can't blame Jonathan all right
seven three two one two five seven doty seven one
three two one two five seven ninety. There's a lot
(01:29:08):
of my life that I wish I wasn't ross, But
there's just small parts of it I wish I was,
and I just heard one of those things moments ago
and I can't repeat them on the air. And that's fine.
We all want to be all jealous of each other
in various different ways. And Matt, what do you mean
you got a you got a palatial estate. Yep, you
are a Maid Creek Hall of Famer. I am not
(01:29:30):
gonna be in the Astros Hall of Fame just yet.
A wonderful family with three beautiful children. They're doing great. Yeah,
you doing great, Matt, But would you just told me
Trump's all right? Move on? All right? Look, I'll be honest.
We haven't gotten a whole lot of Twitter interaction into
our phones today because I think, frankly, people are aren't
(01:29:51):
a real big sports moon and I get it for
obvious reasons. Uh but if you are in a you
know what, I need a little uh not what you
call levity levity takeaway from this distraction, diversion. We'd like
to hear from you, because I think we're trying our best.
I mean, look, this is an awkward time in life.
(01:30:14):
Obviously very Saturday details of yesterday and nine to eleven,
which is going to be with us for the rest
of our lives. I mean, I remember everything about nine
to eleven, everything from what I did that morning to
how I covered the world of news because I was
I was at KKH doing morning sports, and at three
o'clock in the afternoon, I was downtown in the Federal
(01:30:34):
Building to make sure everything was okay. It is weird,
I mean crazy, it was. It was not what I mean.
It's funny. I have been. I've had a great fortune
of covering some of the biggest sporting events in Houston
sports history, but I remember more vividly covering things that
had nothing to do with sports, like when I worked,
you know, Hurricane Harvey at the station for seven days
(01:30:56):
in a row, working tornadoes, tropicals from Allison, the ice storm.
I mean, I just these, you know, nine to eleven.
It's just it's weird that I'm I'm built for sports.
I'm not a newsy under any circumstance. I don't dabble
into politics ever. But my most memorable experiences as a
radio professional are not revolving around sports. Now, there's been
(01:31:18):
some great ones. I mean, I'll never forget all the
great World Series and they run and while we were
on the air a twenty four hours in a row,
and after the World Series a man on the street
in Edo. Yeah, rockets winning big games and calling these
things and you know, Cougar's the chip chip and then
losing in the final second. I won't forget that. Only
(01:31:38):
I'll never forget that, sorry, matt Man. The new stuff
sometimes trump's the local sports scene stuff. So again, if
you're looking for a little diversion, we're here for you. Uh,
and we hope we can do that. So if there's
anything you would like to get off your mind when
it's not involving the serious tone of the last twenty
four hours, seven one three seven, if you just want
(01:31:59):
to sit back and listen to us, we're okay with
that too. Seven one three, eight, two one two five
seven nine zero. Just seeing this story and we kind
of mentioned it, I think yesterday a little bit. Thirteen
players from six schools involved in gambling schemes, according to
the nc double A announcing today. So are they are
(01:32:19):
these people admitting these things or is the NCBLA finally
got a force that's checking out these defeaies Eastern Michigan Temple,
Arizona State, New Orleans, North Carolina, A and T, and
Mississippi Valley State under investigation for gambling violations. According to
the nc double A, they declined to name the athletes
or the sports too correct until the infrant. Yeah, so
(01:32:40):
I not only people are betting on track? Well, it
could be tracked after you better investigation, Jonathan, I don't know.
Violations include athletes betting on and against their own teams,
sharing information with third parties for purposes of betting, and
knowingly manipulating scoring or game outcomes, and or refusing to
participate in the enforcement stats investigation. Do you know why?
(01:33:03):
And I have not necessarily disagreed, but we've had a
different viewpoint of this. Do you know why I think
this is happening more than it should is because I
think most young men and women and it could be
women in this mix too, thinking, well, you know, I
play at some small ass school, Catch Temple or Eastern Michigan.
Who's gonna catch if Eastern Michigan loses a game by
nine points to Western Michigan with one of the players,
(01:33:26):
You know what I mean? You can, you can not
get away with it, but you feel like you you're
not the ESPN Big Monday Game. Put it that way,
you know what I mean? Yeah, I mostly this. I
didn't think this would happen as much as it has
been happening. I was wrong, and I'm surprised it's not
(01:33:46):
even happening more than what we're hearing about. And as
I advocated for for sports betting to become legal, I
just meant, you know, go up to the betting window.
If I want to drop fifty bucks on a on
a money line on the Commanders tonight. I should be
able to do that, and you should, and those kids
will be able to do that in their lives in theory,
but I just I think you have to in college athletics.
(01:34:10):
You got to stay far away from it is. But
it's crazy because now we're blurring the lines between these
guys being paid athletes. So why can't they live their
lives like grown adults because they're being treated like adults.
So yeah, betting accounts associated with a gambling ring under
federal investigation placed wagers deemed suspicious by milkmakers against those
(01:34:31):
schools that I named, Temple, etcetera. It's just like seven schools.
And what's the most high prolofile on Arizona State? You
said Temple, mmm or East Arizona State? Yeah, Yeah, Eastern Michigan,
New Orleans, North Carolina, A and T, and Mississippi Valley State.
So probably at Arizona State, then Temple the most. Yeah.
(01:34:52):
To me, this is these are athletes that are like,
I play at a small school that no one cares about.
If I miss a shot or I put a little
couple of bucks down, no one's gonna catch me. Because
think about it, even at the most high profoscos we're
talking about hundreds and thousands of student athletes at three
hundred and fifty or so institutions. Yeah, they can't catch me, right,
(01:35:14):
they did. Yeah, But what they need to remember they
need to think critically for five seconds to say, if
if a sports book sees a flurry of activity on
Eastern Michigan, then that's that's going to raise suspicion. That's
why you gotta be sly, right, Yeah, or keep your
wager small. That's what I'm saying. Keep that's the same thing.
Keep your wager small. So a ball State Troy game
(01:35:36):
does not all of a sudden have fire alarms going
off at different sports books. But if you're keeping your
wager small, then what's the point. Why are you throwing
a game? So some buy guy can't wait. Honestly, at
Mississippi Valley State, if a guy has a chance make
a couple hundred bucks real quick and he can influence
a game, he's gonna take it. It doesn't make any
sense because again, that's such little money to make a
difference in life. But can we chalk that up to
(01:36:00):
young people being stupid? I don't know. I don't I
don't know if I want to do that too much,
they need to. I think, yeah, you got to get
some education programs out or so. I don't know. I
don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:36:10):
It's more of a like I'm not the one who's
gonna get caught how you said, That's right, It's just
you know, I'm gonna do it like it's I just
got to college. And like you said, all these athletes
talk about these games no matter what you think, they're
gonna talk about it. And it's more like, oh, I'm nothing,
everybody else is doing it. I won't be the one
to get caught with it.
Speaker 3 (01:36:25):
Is there?
Speaker 1 (01:36:26):
Uh? Or to your knowledge, Jonathan, like some kind of
education or some kind of like does there like a
clag get everybody in the classroom and say, hey, guys,
this betting stuff is problematic. Don't do this.
Speaker 5 (01:36:38):
Yeah, even Matt Dagger will have to do it when
she gets into the instable a every semester, so every
start at fall and something they do a course training, Yeah,
like a team meeting. Get us at through like for
like two days, and you got to do a training
online as well. They talked about the gambling. They talk
about the Rio rules and Tyler nine and all the
other stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:36:55):
But if you and I are athletes Division one athletes
and Jonathan's our buddy, in which said John than, hey,
we can lose a game by three points for a
thousand dollars. That's that's found money. Right, may not be
found money because it takes two more than two people
to adjust to a game, but we can. We can
get away with it, ross, We really can. Yeah, they're
(01:37:18):
really stupid to do it. I don't know that. I mean, obviously,
I get I'm gonna say I don't think that everybody
that is doing this is getting caught, But I don't know.
There's no more investigations than I thought. There is no
way we could tell you how many kids are doing it.
But I think we're naive to think that the sixteen
you said sixteen schools or how many you say there
(01:37:40):
were thirteen players at six school thirteen to thirteen players
that got caught were not the only thirteen. There were
probably kids jumping around this country right now and going
they're better stuff, and I'm glad it didn't catch me.
Seven one three, two, one two five, seven nine. If
you want to join our conversation seven one three two
one two five seven ninety, The Rotten Five ROSSI is
(01:38:02):
in twenty minutes. I'm very said. This is the first
ever edition of the twenty twenty five edition of the
Rotten Five. How excited are you wanting? Ever? It takes
absolutely zero talent to give you who the five best
teams are in professional football? Thinks something special? Give me
the five worst. I gotta do digging in a lot
of dirt, Maddie, you had sixteen choices to go with
this week. You just did seven. Will the Texans be
on it? I'm gonna gohead and say no, you're not.
(01:38:24):
They're not going to be on this.
Speaker 2 (01:38:25):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:38:25):
Come on, man, it's oka ots brother. Will the Texans
be one of the Rotten Five? We'll tell you after
we tell you about the Shell Federal Credit Union call
thirty four Sports Talk seven ninety It is the Matt
Thomas Show with Ross. We've got the Texans taken on
the Rams on Monday. We have a and m versus
(01:38:49):
Notre Dame on Saturday NBC Primetime Big Game there. Oh,
Notre Dame taking on the Fighting Texas Aggies. Since the
fight at Irish versus the Fighting Agis, should be a
great matchup in South be Indiana. What's the line on that?
I think it's was it Notre Dame six and a half?
Something like that? Yeah? Uh, can Notre Dame lose twice
(01:39:10):
in a row. Lose Also the first week of the year,
did they not to Miami? Oh yeah, that's right. They're
oh to one and they're number eighteen in the country.
I think they didn't. They move up week to week. Yeah,
but that's different. Miami was a big Well, that was
a big opponent. You can't lose to South Florida and
move up two spots. Yeah, that was worse. I mean,
(01:39:31):
you got to you gotta pull your credent. You can't.
You can't have a vote if you're doing that, that's
just dumb ass right on the votes. You cannot be
I don't give if you're a male female, whatever you are,
and you move Florida up two spots into ap polpic
and not give the reasons why she said she had
her reasons. They were dumb ass reasons. According to you
(01:39:52):
can't all right, roll fast for go the phones. Give
me one viable reason why South Florida heavy underdog goes
to Florida and beats the Gators in Gainesville and gain
and Florida moves up two spots. Go ahead. Maybe she
thinks South Florida's the top five team and they really
battled with them. That's not Bible. You lose Jason and
(01:40:14):
conra on seven out of your twelve thirty six. Hello Jason, good.
Speaker 7 (01:40:19):
Afternoon, fellas Hi. I mean, one of my favorite movies
is Blue Chips, and there's always a line in there. Well,
just give them a basket weave in con you know,
basket leaving class. You know it's like if you know
you want to place the debt and you're an athlete
(01:40:39):
in college, man, just get somebody else to place the debt. Man,
give them a give them a common sense class one
oh one. You shouldn't you should know better than that.
Speaker 3 (01:40:49):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:40:49):
Yeah, there, these people are part of a gamble. It's
like a gambling ring. That's that's under investigation that these
players are being investigated as part. It's not them necessarily
placing bets.
Speaker 7 (01:40:59):
I mean, and and to have a big school, I mean,
and I mean it's Arizona State.
Speaker 4 (01:41:04):
They're a big school, you know.
Speaker 7 (01:41:05):
But like the other schools, I can understand. But like
Arizona State, that's a bad that's a bad look fels.
Speaker 1 (01:41:16):
Well, we don't know who it is, what sport it
is U I mean, it could be anything. Right, that
doesn't thank you for the phone call. It doesn't necessarily detail, right, No,
it does not. But I'm gonna imagine, I mean, how
many are there North Carolina A and T tennis matches
we can bet on somewhere? No, No, I'm thinking it's
maybe it's about North Carolina A and T tennis players
(01:41:39):
that are betting on that they're betting on.
Speaker 5 (01:41:42):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:41:42):
This is this is that they they're involved with the
gambling ring, like they're throwing games. Okay, so this gambling.
So we're narrowing it down to the athletes in those sports.
Oh yeah, okay, I understand that. Okay, that makes better.
That's little more sense. I mean, that's my understanding. I'll
pull the article back up, but I'm.
Speaker 5 (01:41:58):
Just saying, if you're a broke student athlete and you
see a comeboy cash in five hundred dollars because he
told the girl at study hall, hey, like, you know,
give me this.
Speaker 1 (01:42:07):
Okay, I'm sorry, Yeah, I said it earlier. They are betting,
but yeah, they include violations include athletes betting on and
against their own team. So yes, they did place bets. Sorry,
that's my bet, sharing information with third parties for the
purposes of betting, and then knowingly manipulating scoring or game outcomes,
and or refusing to participate in the enforcement staffs as investigation.
(01:42:27):
So they're throwing games, giving information, and betting on their
own games and not talking to investigators who be interesting.
Pretty interesting. Huh, what's the worst you could do? Drop
a pass, not score basket, mister fat Well, if you
(01:42:49):
have a prop they're talking about not participating games. Let's
say you tell everybody to bet you're under on receptions
and then you twist your ankle and beginning of the game.
That's what John say Porter was doing, right right, you
telling everybody to bet his under and then oh my Ecohearts.
I'm out here Malik Beasley of the NBA, same situation. Yeah,
(01:43:10):
I would say it'd be hard to manipulate team bets
like I like eighteen plus six and a half over
B team. But if you're going to the first of all,
if you're betting an individual props, that wouldn't the alarms
go off? That's what I'm saying. Hey, everybody's slamming this
player from North Carolina A and t's props. What's that about?
(01:43:31):
Let me ask you this, Can you even get a
prop on a North Carolina A and T player? I mean,
are you sure you can definitely find you?
Speaker 2 (01:43:44):
Guys.
Speaker 1 (01:43:44):
I don't mean to guarantee something in my life, but
if you and I ROSSI were to get in the
car and drive to Lake Charles, I'm not finding prop bets.
Have you seeing that? Kioskar, I'm not seeing Houston Christian
prop bets? Again, it's Nebraska. I'm gonna guarantee it. You're guaranteed.
(01:44:05):
If I'm wrong, I I owe you a meal at
the casino right when we go in a couple of weeks. Okay,
do me favor, do me a favorite right now. And
this is not this is finding on the off shore stuff.
But I'm not looking off shore. I'm talking about a
normal ass person going to a casino and a sports bank.
Find me a find me a prop bet on any
Houston Christian player this week? Can you find it from me?
(01:44:25):
I guess I can. Look, Why can't you do it?
I will do it because I'm wrong. You're making me
your research bitch. Yeah, you're the one who say that's
not happening, jan Hi Stunner, you're on seven. I'm looking.
I'm I'm gonna. I'm my own bitch. Hi Stunner.
Speaker 6 (01:44:39):
He was something.
Speaker 2 (01:44:42):
Laying Nebraska you can put you can put Miles Sanders
in there. I think he kind of told a game
for the count.
Speaker 1 (01:44:51):
Was Miles Sanders is point shaven?
Speaker 2 (01:44:55):
A point shaving. He did more than that. I mean,
you had the linebacker catches and then you throw the
ball in the next couple of snaps. Hey man, that
ran across my mind as soon as I've seen him
get tackled at too, I said, oh, it's gotta be
(01:45:16):
the ego.
Speaker 1 (01:45:16):
Love.
Speaker 2 (01:45:18):
And and then last night watching the game that I
had to turn, man, I couldn't watch it. I watched
it on my phone. I watched the volleyball game.
Speaker 1 (01:45:29):
Yeah, you turn off they won.
Speaker 2 (01:45:32):
I didn't. I did turn it off. I just slipped
it back and forth between ESPN and because the volleyball
game was more entertaining the Long Huns and the Cardinals
of Louisville.
Speaker 1 (01:45:49):
Yeah, I was appreciated the volleyball chatter on the on
the show. Is that true? YEA great game? Man?
Speaker 5 (01:45:56):
It was?
Speaker 2 (01:45:57):
It was they went five six, It was big.
Speaker 1 (01:46:01):
Hey, don't don't don't, don't you just spare volleyball. I'm
not all right, I'm looking for proper I can't fight.
Speaker 2 (01:46:06):
One in the exciting an exciting game.
Speaker 1 (01:46:10):
Man, I'm sure it was. I like, what, Yeah, the
volleyball is good, but I wasn't gonna turn the Astros off. Also,
I was working the postgame show.
Speaker 2 (01:46:17):
But man, I could Hey, I watched them the other
day and and and they blew out just saying, man
to me, look at it.
Speaker 1 (01:46:27):
Uh, Texas Volleyball's on a run, Matt. You want to
hear the schedule? Go ahead. They beat number twelve Creighton
in three sets, Number eight Wisconsin in three sets. Well,
they whipped up on rice, number six Stanford in five sets,
and number four Louisville in five sets. They'd be like
five top ten teams already. And then ego maniacs either said,
(01:46:50):
no one going for another championship. Baby, let's go youngratulations
until they they have Marcus Spears's daughters real good, right, Yes?
I think he even tweeted out something Jermaine O'Neil's daughter
was on ridiculously good. That's not fair. You get Germain
O'Neal's daughter, and you know what, at Rhode Island, Matt
(01:47:10):
Thomas's daughter is gonna be really good next year. I'm
sure she's gonna be fantastic. I'm wishing the best for
the Thomas family. You should come with me on a
road trip. Are you paying for me?
Speaker 2 (01:47:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:47:20):
Got my ticket?
Speaker 2 (01:47:21):
I will.
Speaker 1 (01:47:22):
I don't buy you enough. Yeah, I'll get some Rhode
Island gear. I'm gonna I'm gonna go get you a team.
I'm definitely be at the Mattress. Uh No, but they
sell beer at the bar down the street. Don't you
can't get a cold one at the at the Rhode
Island volleyball game. I don't think you can. I'll speak,
I'll sneak in a flask. Why why are you always
(01:47:43):
looking for alcohol at everyone in these sporting events. Jonathan
I told their big rival, Jonathan I prominence, Providence and
anybody in the A ten like Fordham do. Cane's a big,
big yeah rival. So Jonathan I was telling Ross and said,
all the divorced A moms go these volleyball tournaments. Yeah,
And he's like, oh really, I said, yeah, he goes,
Can I bring a flask? I'm like, why don't you
(01:48:04):
want to bring alcohol? And by the way, people do
bring alcohol? Ye see, what are you talking? A lot
of moms, A lot of moms do. But don't you
want to get the sober moms or do you want
the one that lick it up? I forget. I forgot.
I even asked that whether it is that the Rotten
five is up next to you. They've gone there, they
draw flies. It's Ross's rotten five. This don't smell quite right. God,
(01:48:31):
I love this segment. Ross does the due diligence. He
puts the time in Believe it or not. Yeah, sometimes
News and Noon rarely Rotten five. This is prep. You
gotta roll your sleeves up and get dirty. Maddy. All right,
ladies jumping It takes ab so no ability to give
(01:48:53):
you the five best teams in the NFL. Who are
the five suckist a man who sucks himself rossfield or real?
I don't do that, wouldn't even try. All right, don't
knock it, do you try it? Let's go ahead and
get it going on the run.
Speaker 3 (01:49:13):
Five.
Speaker 1 (01:49:13):
Yeah, you can go ahead, write that down. We'll see
you on Friday, all right. New York Football Giants they
have been a staple on this list for the last
couple of years, and this week is no different. They say,
if you have two quarterbacks, you don't have any, But
what if you have three. Coach Brian day Ball saying
he's gonna stick with Russell Wilson over Jackson Dart this week,
and I guess Jamis Winson just hanging out for the Vibes.
(01:49:36):
Giants offense futured in Week one of the season against
the Commanders. Russell Wilson was the worst quarterback in the
NFL by expected points added. They could only scrape together
two field goals, helping a bounce back this week against
the Cowboys. But as of right now, the fifth worst
team in the NFL is the New York Football Giants.
(01:49:57):
This is my fault hold on, Stall, this will be
worth the wait. This is week one week. This is
like the preseason. The script open on this computer, but
not the other computer. So sorry, here we go. Broncos Country,
let's run. No, it's Giants Country, Russell. Come on, all right,
it's no surprise last year's worst team in the league
(01:50:17):
appears on this list. The Tennessee Titans taking cam Ward
number one overall in the last NFL draft also doesn't help, though,
that Ward had to go against one of the best
defenses in the NFL on the road. Talking about the
Denver Broncos bottom line. Though Titans offense was awful, never
got within the ten yard line in Denver. Their leading
receiver was their running back Tony Pollard. Also doesn't help
(01:50:41):
that Brian Callahan, in a key situation, did not know
that a receiver getting his elbow down counts as a catch.
He thought he needed a foot as well. Come on, man,
that is football one oh one stuff, and that does
not portend well for Brian Callahan going forward. As of
right now, Titan's fourth worst team in the NFL. Guys,
(01:51:01):
we got to go get this show. Oh I miss
playing that. I missed the rotten five all right, how
about them Carolina Panthers. My goodness, they are bad. There
was a lot of offseason hype for them second season
under Dave Canals. Bryce Young played well at the end
of the season last year, and well, Jaguar excuse me,
Panthers falling flat in Week one as they lost to
(01:51:23):
the Jaguars twenty six to ten. Bryce Young throwing for
just one hundred and fifty four yards with one touchdown
and two picks. Also with the second worst quarterback by
expected points added this weekend, only better than Russell Wilson,
who mentioned earlier in this list, Travis etn gashing the
Panthers defense to the tune of one hundred and forty
three yards on just sixteen carries. Panthers bad. Hoping to
(01:51:46):
get better against the Cardinals right now, the third worst
team in the NFL. You lose good Dacer down the list.
Speaker 2 (01:51:53):
We go.
Speaker 1 (01:51:54):
Everyone this offseason talking about how the New Orleans Saints
might have the worst quarterback sit situation in the NFL,
and well, seems like head coach Kellen Moore disagrees. He
decided to throw the ball forty six times against the
Arizona Cardinals, and it's not like it was some shootout situation.
They scored a whopping thirteen points. You do have to
(01:52:16):
credit them for keeping it within the score, but the
team is not good on either side of the ball.
Their best offensive player is a thirty year old running
back who hasn't had a good yards per carry season
since twenty twenty, talking about Alvin Kamara. Of course, they
do avoid Brock Purdy and the Niners this week, but
as of right now, despite going against Mac Jones, we'll
(01:52:36):
see how that turns out. They are the second worst
team in the NFL. Believe it, Yeah, go sick the
head up though, crawl fish. Though I want to miss Gordy.
I know I love putting the Saints on this list
just so I can play that Gordy drop. All right?
Good god, what a week one for the Miami Dolphins.
They got destroyed by the Indianapolis Colts. I'm actually in
the minority in that I like Mike McDaniel and like
(01:52:59):
two is not that bad normally when he's not getting
a concussion. But no excuse for what we saw in
a week one the Dolphins getting crushed by Daniel Jones
and everyone talking about his career renaissance you know, you
had a bad week. That's what's going on. Nothing going
on offensively for the team. Defense was supposed to be good.
They were awful. So is to a people are already
(01:53:19):
predicting Mike mcdaniel'll be the first coach fired in this
NFL season. Now, Tyreek Hill's getting hit with allegations of
eight different domestic violence incidents from his strange wife. I mean,
how could it get much worse? For the Miami Dolphins,
It is a disaster over there. They are the absolute
worst team in the NFL. They are They are number
(01:53:43):
one on this did you find that? Will sound bite?
Iami Dolphins number one on this list, Mattie. They're gonna
be there for a while. They might be. They are rotten, man,
the rotten five. Really rough start, but a great finish.
Thank you. As long as you get that great finish,
nothing else matters. I'm glad you were able to finish.
(01:54:03):
Some guys. You sometimes you can't finish the show. Can't
finish the show. We can't finish fast enough. That's not
true at all. Hey, we're into full astros mode. In
about four minutes from now, you have the on deck show.
Would there'll be some highlights, pleasant highlights, okay, and some
relevant stats watching preview and this date an Astro's history
