Speaker 1 (00:00):
Is The Matt Thomas Show with Ross ten O one
an Age Town. Good morning, and welcome to a Thursday
edition of The Matt Thomas Show with Ross. This is
Sports Talk seven ninety oh Man, the Astros fire away
(00:21):
at the Age yesterday. You know, Ross, I think the
number one thing about as you get older is you
always should be able to learn and accept when new
knowledge comes your way. Hmm okay. So when I thought
about this song coming to work, I was a texted Jonathan.
I said, we're gonna go with hit me with your
best shot? And I was thinking, is that Pat Benattar
(00:43):
or Joan Jet? Everybody gets them confused? I feel like
it's neither one of them. What it's something called a Dona. No,
it's Pat Benatar. Are you sure? Says sung by a
you know what? Maybe this is a version? See again,
this is Ai coming into play. I told you it
(01:05):
is Pat Benatar. I told you you can't trust Ai.
I don't listen to me, right, So how do I
as a music officionado, as a music sorry, as a
music appreciator. That was mean? I'm sorry? How do I
separate Pat Benatar from jone Jet? I don't know. Listen
to their music a lot. I guess that would be easy.
(01:27):
But it's you ever do a deep dive into Jone Jet.
But I mean I would think that I'm not the
only one that confuses Pat Benatar and Jet. I disagreed
with you. It's it's I think it's very common, okay.
And then I brought up somebody named don't I guess
A Dona did a twenty twenty version of this song.
I don't even know what a Dona is. I don't know,
not yet, you know, AI, shut your ball mass up?
(01:49):
Goodness all right, uh, good morning everybody. I know many
of you off today for juneteenth, Yes, and everyone. Because
it was strange to me my I always check my time.
I'm from my house to the office, and it was
kept saying forty six minutes. I'm like, wait a minute,
It's only forty six minutes on Saturdays and Sundays, no traffic,
(02:11):
no traffic, It's forty six minutes for you, Yes, that
is correct, thirty seven miles. Yeah, don't. It's a it's
a very it's a very source. I said, a lot
of books on tape. You knock one out a week.
It's and we're dog sitting this week and the guest dog.
We're doing this again next week to the guest dog
(02:32):
won't be up at four o'clock this morning and go outside?
Oh hell no, And you got to get up because
you don't want mess all over the place, Correig. So
I'm a little sleep deprived. I try to get an
extra wink in between, like six thirty and seven fifteen,
but I'm still not one hundred percent. So you have
to carry the show today, yes, okay, So don't don't
say like I'm not taking the low head. I know
(02:53):
you're going to. I know you're going to. I know
you're going to it resisted. So you had the Astros
playing late? Yes, the dog got the guest dog got
me up at four. Oh you flipped that bad boy
off in the sixth inning, though, I did. When they
score all the rucks, I'll be when they got up
to the bathroom. Last night, I did go check the
sports score, and I looked at the box score and
(03:14):
I'm like, my god, twenty hits. Oh yes, double digit
runs again. Yes, everybody said you couldn't do it, and
back to back games, all right, So let's do this.
Let's send somebody to Lake Charles today and let's bet
the under on the over under on the number of
runs in today's game, because the Astros can't put up
(03:34):
that kind of offense for three straight day. The only
reason why you maybe think you can is because first
of all, the a suck and second of all, the
balls are flying out in West correct and that's what
I remember that we got burned on the under in Tampa,
because we certainly did. That was my suggestion. No no, no, no, no, no
(03:56):
no no, we're together, and then I'm sorry. The over
under HM on runs tonight would like taking guests. Don't
look ten and a half? Ten and a half. Yes,
I was gonna say nine and a half. But now
I remember Monday was the total was four and that
was a day where the temperatures were like eighty five degrees.
(04:18):
The last two days has been really stinking hot in Sacramento.
But I thought it was supposed get a little cooler
to sixteen runs Tuesday, Yesterday fifteen runs. Yeah, it's only
getting up to eighty five today. How much do you
know about Jacob Lopez? Oh it's a lefty. I'll stay away.
(04:43):
Astros crush lefties. Yeah, I was gonna say it's all right,
So then we'd probably want to go with the over
ten and a half. You don't stay away from you
to take the other side, just stay away from me, okay.
All right, So let's pretend we make that we're in
Lake Charles right now at a particular casino. You choose. Okay,
we'll go with the Isle of Capri. All right. Uh,
(05:05):
we go to the we go to the betting window. Yes,
and I have to make you have to make about
what are you doing, lefty. I'm gonna go with everything
you just said. I'm gonna go with There's no way
the Astros can produce that kind of offense for a
third straight day and they may still win. They may
still win eight nothing, but it does take ten and
a half to win, and I can buy in total.
(05:25):
I'm going to go, not betting my life savings, but
I'm going to take money that I would spend on
you on a nice dinner. I'm gonna put it towards
the under ten and a half. Colton Gordon four point
seven e ra A. So elevate that a little bit
because it's out in the west one three whip uh huh,
stay with it. Make your call. Just do it over
(05:48):
over it is okay, it's a Thursday gut feeling. It's
also a getaway day. Two those guys you want to
get it as like Cooper Hummels in the line of
Wave besmirching old Cooper Humble. We're coming, Cooper Humble. Yeah,
she's my little bit back with the team. Yeah, you
(06:08):
gotta pinch at a b yesterday. Yeah, but yeah, it
is fun to see what the Astros are able to do.
And uh, not only that, but the Mariners lost yesterday.
The Yankees lost yesterday, and that means your beloved Astros.
And again I'm not look, I will lie to you
if it if it helps the show. Yeah, we know.
(06:32):
The Astros have the second best record in the American League.
And I'm telling you the truth. Wow, they have a
better record than the New York Yankees. Suck it, Yankees.
They just can't handle the Angels. The Angels just too good,
Hu Yanks. They not only scored runs yesterday, but they
(06:53):
didn't score enough to win. They lost again to the Angels.
The Angels are a juggernaut, They're not a ju according
to the Yanks. And guess who's going to be playing
the Angel starting tomorrow night. That would be Oh, that's true. Actually,
should we be worried? You are heating up? Maddie? Now,
remember I got him going five and one on this
trip and so far or the rest trip after Monday,
So so far they're two and aer in this. I
got a little wiggle room as long as I beat
(07:16):
the ache tonight. I'm trying to see the Yeah, the
the angels probably are right now just getting into their beds,
and it's a cross country flood. They just finished off,
so maybe they could.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
So we tired for Friday.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
You never know, I'm probably not. You'll probably got a
good night's rest. Yeah, you say, coochie, You'll sleep like
sixteen hours apparently. Pat Benatar friend Kenny and Katy says
Pat Benatar does not sing that song anymore. She's against
gun violence, so she didn't sing it. That's too bad.
But wait, it's not even a I'm not making unless
unless Kenny's making me. She's not talking about being at
(07:49):
the Battle of bull Run.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
You sure he's not messing with you.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
I don't think Kenny would. I mean he would have
with some some things, but I don't think I'd be
wanting a metaphor I thought, Pat, unless she's really Wait
a minute, is Pat Benatart been doing gangster out this
whole time? I don't know, wouldn't I couldn't he out
there blasting on fools? What is Pat Benatar's last hit?
Would be probably have no idea in my internet? So
I can't. Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. My wife
(08:13):
right down and there's somebody here. It's in holiday, yeah,
so we can't get it fixed. Everything was weird today.
The drive was ridiculously fast for all things considered. And
I got to the office today and there were five
hundred parking spots. That's when I knew it was a holiday.
It did not click in until I got here because
our sales pit, which normally is fairly empty to begin with, yeah,
was super empty today. Okay, why are you laughing? They're
(08:36):
out there getting selling the show. What are you talking about?
We have great advertisers on this radio show. You're about
to hear for one of them in about thirty seconds. Yeah,
for you look at this like a log to day.
Oh yeah, okay, Hey, everybody, if you own a let's
stand by for this. If you own a business and
(08:56):
you want the business to grow, I want you to
think about having Rossfield every All endors your product. Thank you,
Thank you, Matt send an email Ross at Sports seven
ninety dot com Ross at Sports seven ninety dot com
saying Hey, I am a company that does this, and
I have a budget that I would like to spend
on advertising and I want Ross to promote it. Thank you, Matt.
(09:17):
I appreciate that you ever hear client doctor Waxler? Nope? No,
do you ever hear Sean Salisbury? Do there for Dann Matthews?
Speaker 2 (09:23):
No?
Speaker 1 (09:23):
God no. So it makes me the nicest person in
this company. That's tir Lee's on this radio station. It
took you seven seconds to pat yourself on the back. No,
I'm just telling you the truth. No, no, true, you
are the best Matt. Wait, wait to find out what
happens to me of all the seven ninety talent. If
I was picking a co host, I would pick That's
what I'm talking about right there. That's in fact seven
(09:43):
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven. If you're off today, uh,
and you don't normally get a chance to call the show,
we will give you the leach that we would normally
give on a Friday because it feels it's a holiday week.
So I see people taking Tom off to because of this.
The kind of extent you get the it's like a
donut hole the Friday. You take that one off too,
(10:04):
eat that up. So eating a donut on a Thursday
can also be translated eating on a donut on Friday. Yes,
so you go glaze about what I got donuts today.
I don't know, I want to eat donuts. Yeah, that's
that is not like you. No, I'm not a huge
donut person per se. But I got one glaze and
one plank cake and people complaining about planet cap But
Craig Akerman and I love playing like it's a classic.
(10:26):
I feel like it's almost not like a diet donut,
but it's like the less sugar. I mean, it's for
old people, but I love it. I'm with you. Plain
cake with a cup of coffee. Oh, spectacular, dunk it
in there, I could, Okay, I'm just asking if you're
a dunker from the dunk from the dunk's position on
the court with the dunker, not the dunker spot, a
knuncker spot. Okay, So if you are new to having
(10:47):
a day off on a day like this and what
I call in and say, hello, we would love to
have you at seven one three, two, one two five
seven on a year. So I have been obsessed with
what's going to happen with Kevin Durant. And maybe I'm
the only one, but I even have Shams on notifications
like if something happens, because I don't trust anybody else.
I mean, there's a lot of people got the on Mattie.
(11:08):
Everybody's gravy training off of him, and they're saying what
they hear and whatnot, and that's a that's the for
you tab. But when Shams put something out, I will
then believe it. By the way, Shams yesterday had the
story that the Lakers, Genie Bus and the Bus family
are selling majority interests in the Lakers to a minority
owner for ten billion dollars ten b with a billion.
(11:33):
That's I mean, good for her, I guess, of course,
good for the entire family, But my god, she's gonna stay.
I was confused by the whole thing. She's staying as
the lead governor, right, which is the lead exactly what
they mean own They see he was governor in NBA,
and that's fine. My guess that's gonna be a five
year situation. I mean, she's got to be in her
(11:53):
early sixties. I'm thinking, okay, so yeah, she'll do that
for a while. So SAMs has it. So every time
I go to Shams and I see that I got
a notification, I flip out, only to realize it's been
nothing about Kevin Durant. But yeah, I'm doing that, and
that's all I can do at this point because I'm
not going to bother anybody that's involved in it. And
(12:14):
let Shams because again, when when this deal goes down,
all these teams will go to the highest media source
they can. And Shams has what how many several million followers? Correct, yes,
so his and his word and he is not. I
don't think Shams has messed up much. He may not
have been batting a thousand, but he bets about ninety five. Yes, yeah,
here and there, there's been a little bit of here
and there, But I mean it's something wrong or WOJ
(12:35):
has or each or vice versa. But I mean, you
talk about the two guys that get it right. I
mean ninety eight percent of the time it's those two guys.
So nothing new on that but we'll give you what
the streets are saying, perhaps throughout the course of the day.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety George is
with us, So the Matt Thomas Show with Ross George.
(12:56):
Good morning, No, no way, Hey, Mat, can you hear that? Yeah?
What is it? I'm in the shower right now.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
I didn't think I was to get over this quick.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
Full Well, hold on, why don't you cut? I'm sorry, George.
You're going on to Friday Open tomorrow Friday. Yeah, you're
gonna hear yourself tomorrow at ten o'clock. You understand this? Correct?
Speaker 4 (13:16):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (13:17):
No, in the shower? Yeah? What are you?
Speaker 2 (13:23):
My cat?
Speaker 1 (13:24):
My cat just came in here. Watch out? Are you?
Speaker 5 (13:26):
So?
Speaker 1 (13:26):
It's just you and the cat in the room? I mean,
I mean I got a little bird.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
You remember that?
Speaker 1 (13:32):
What what that bird's name is? Missus Thomas SUPs up?
All right, But real talk, mister, Matt, real talk. You're
the closest thing a black friend I know. So happy Juneteenth.
But also I really called in to talk about Uh. Hey,
you've seen Lance the Golden on Twitter. That's not him, right,
(13:52):
that is not him?
Speaker 6 (13:53):
Yeah, or did he or did he deactivate and just
come out with a vengeance?
Speaker 1 (13:57):
No, he deactivated. Yeah, that's that's a fake. That's a
faking count.
Speaker 6 (14:01):
Okay, Hey, do you think Julian Moralis isn't blocking yet
because she's vaccinated.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
No, you're probably still blocked, probably rightfully. So George, yea
go back, that's not that's that's that dude's weird. Yeah,
George has been calling us for a while. He's a
little officer. It's got a burden a cat. No, the
(14:27):
bird is well, good to know wherever you have got
an actual bird, Matt, not like a bird that Cheeks
would attack. Yeah, Cheeks would attack that cat and bird. Okay,
that's just gross. All right, let's move on, thank you, George.
Let's let's let's give George like a year off. He
can't call the show for a year because one year. Yeah,
(14:49):
I think one year suspensions. All right. Yeah, and by
the way, Lance mccullor is just not going to be
on Twitter ever again. Uh So, anytime you see Lance
mc colors tweeting, it's it's a fake accounta that's somebody
that's obviously somebody with a lot of time on their hands.
Too much free time. Yeah, all right, Uh, where do
you want to go? Oh to the offensive yesterday. Oh,
(15:11):
by the way, I got something for you. We were
talking about this at the dinner table last night, so
we have said we were talking about from er Valdez yesterday,
and I said, there is no chance, no way, no
how that from Ervalde is coming back as an Astro guess,
(15:33):
and I go off of that because the Astros all
throughout spring training did not make any sort of attempt
to try to negotiate a contract. Usually you want to
do it with a year left to go, because if
you if you if you leave spring training in the
final year of a contract and you don't have a deal,
that gives a sign that you know that that player
wants to go out and see what his value is.
Speaker 2 (15:56):
Now.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
It doesn't necessarily mean that he might not come back
under the Astros terms, but that would also go against
what I say of no way to know how he
comes back. I think from ber Valdez, based on what
he's doing this year, is going to be able to
find a deal somewhere that's going to be I mean,
probably to his liking. It may not be a five
or seven year deal. But then maybe a three year
deal that's going to pay him some pretty good cash.
(16:18):
He's going to be looking for you seven to eight
years deal. Whether he gets it or not remains to
be seen. We'll see. So here is the issue we
were talking about this. They said, well, why don't week
because he said, they said we why don't the Astros
do the same thing with from ber Valdez that they
did with Kyle Tucker? Trade him with a year left
(16:39):
to go in the contract, get some prospects. So when
he says goodbye, because Kyle Tucker had shown absolutely no
indication he was going to come back and play for
the Astros in twenty twenty six and beyond that, you
don't sit there with a picture gone and nothing but
a compensatory pick of return on The kids didn't know
about the compensatory pick, but they were just saying, you're
leaving without without anything back. So I'll ask you this question.
(17:06):
Are the Astros in a precarious spot because of what
they're doing right now and how good Fromber is and
how beat up the Astros' pitching staff is collectively organizationally
frankly at the major league level, or do you say
you know what them's the breaks. The Astros are competing,
(17:27):
They're in first place, they have the second best rock
in the American League right now, and you have to
think about twenty twenty five and think of only twenty
twenty five. Well, you have to toe the line. You
have to and that's what they did with the Kyle
Tucker trade and then keeping from Brevaldez. Is they're towing
the line between trying to prepare for the future and
(17:51):
also trying to compete right now. And at this point,
I think you go over that line if you trade
away from Ervaldez right now, he and Hunter Brown as
your one too in this line up the way that
it is, you're competing for an American League Pennant, I
think you're not doing that if from Bervaldes is gone
from this team. So the easy answer to me, and
(18:12):
I told this to the kids, is you are trying
every year. You can play that as long as your
roster is built to some level of success and the
ability to win. You have to win. Why you worried
about twenty twenty six, twenty twenty seven, win twenty twenty
five may be your year now. I don't think the
Astros are a World Series favorite. Matter of fact, I
(18:34):
don't think they're a favorite. They're even a prime consideration
to win the American League. But you don't tell those
twenty six guys at right now because they're playing outstanding baseball.
They have a five and a half game lay in
their division, and they went from a team that was
three to four five games under five hundred of being
double digit games above five hundred. Their thing about winning
and winning now. So I frankly told the kids, I
(18:55):
don't know if I could if the audience agrees, you
have to think about now you have to take your chances,
because what kind of sign would that be to the
organization if all of a sudden, you're in first place
and you are down to two A level pitchers. The
rest of the guys are nice ross, but they ain't
a level. Hunter Brown is a level, Frober Valve is
(19:16):
a level. What would it What kind of message would
you be sending to your fan base that here we
are having this great run much as surprise of many,
and you all of a sudden trade off because you're
worried about what to do in twenty twenty six and beyond.
It's it's just that that's a risk you take when
you keep a guy here with a year left to
(19:37):
go on his contract. So that's a risk. It's a
good risk because right now the Astros are getting good
pitching from him, quality start after quality start. And oh,
by the way, they're in first place in the division. Yeah,
and I would I would say they're absolutely in the
in the thick of one of the contenders for the
American League. If not, I mean, I can look, the
Tigers have been great, but I mean outside of Tarrek School,
(19:58):
they've had some good pitching and they the bullpen's been
good too. But I don't think this despite their record,
I don't think that they are going to be just
some indomitable force in the playoffs because they haven't been
there and done that. They beat the Astros but then
lost the division series. Yeah, yeah, I get it. So
I just something that I think some Astro fans are
probably contemplating because the history has shown that players have walked,
(20:20):
and in this past offseason, one player moved a year
before he could walk. I thought that once they traded Tucker,
I thought they were gonna trade from her because that
would make sense to try to hit a soft reset
button hit the prospects back, maybe take a year or
two off and then be back at it for Jordan's prime.
(20:41):
But clearly I was wrong. I mean, they're they're winning
all these games with like some kind of black magic
of pitching, and it just keeps happening, and they're they're
gonna run away with it. As of right now, they're
gonna run away with the Al West. And then you're
playing for seating, which never we never would have thought
about them ago. No, but they're playing great baseball and
(21:02):
the schedule continues to be fairly soft ing. People will
get healthier, Ordone will get healthier. Eric Getty's gonna come back.
Christian Havier is throwing bullpens. Luis Garcia maybe, I mean,
if somebody I'll put it, was it even live BP
for Havevier? I can't remember. Somebody comes back, that's a win, right,
if just anybody comes back. Ten twenty nine of The
(21:22):
Matt Thomas Show with Ross seven one three two one
two five seven ninety If you'd like to join our
radio program today seven one three two one two five
seven NINTI time is ten thirty three. It is a
Matt Thomas Show with Ross. No Brian mctagger. Today he's
in Paris or London or one of the two. He
was in Paris most week. I think he's going to
Lon for just a day or so, so he'll be
(21:44):
back with his next week. Wonderful. Is he going to
the motherland Ireland?
Speaker 2 (21:49):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (21:49):
No, just that those two is already over there. He
may get to the Motherland. I mean, I don't know
the mctaggarts from Limerick. Go see the old family home.
I mean, I guess next year they've only got you
only could take a week off. I mean, I guess
if you want to go to a third country, we'll
take a few yesterdays. Right, well, come on now they
(22:09):
might be checked. Probably pretty nice, he does. Okay for himself,
he says, okay, all right, seven one three two one
two five seven ninety if you want to join our
program today seven one three two one two five seven
nine zer we have Game six of the NBA Finals tonight. Okay,
I know you're sneak it sneaks up on sneak getting
(22:30):
a rhythm the way that they do this. Yeah, yep, yep.
Speaker 6 (22:34):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
Let's check the four U tab on the latest when
it comes out, by come on, I'm sorry. See women
in bikinis and w NBA fights. Uh, you know, I'm
getting a lot of are guys losing blackjack cans? They definitely,
they definitely know my phone. Yeah, they know what you're
up to. Mm hmm, that's pretty funny. Let's see here
(22:57):
which they do that? And then I thought they didn't
allow you. Most places don't allow your phones at the table.
The last one I just looked at was that the
El Cortes. This guy bet the El Cortez thousand dollars
in each of the hands. He had six hands on
the table. Yes, the dealers showed, don only dealt him
one card. Then the dealer showed his card and they
started playing off with the one hand. Is that an
advantage to anybody? Probably the house they're doing it. You
(23:21):
always whenever you see these new games and you're like, hey, yeah,
I wonder what the math is on that. The math
is you lose. But I've never seen that before, and
I did not watch the entire video so far, he's
two hands into it and he's lost both of them. Okay,
well just keep giving us the play by play. I
guess no, no, no, no, no no no no. Uh okay,
So in an insummation, it sounds like, again, there are
(23:41):
other teams trying to get involved. Toronto would like to
get involved in this. Miami may be pivoting to other
people if the Kevin Durant stuff doesn't come into play.
The Rockets are standing firm. The San Antonio Spurs seem
to be wavering, although rumors have it they may come back.
Phoenix is like, man, you gotta get this improve we
need more value in return. Then Brian Winhorst says, Phoenix
(24:05):
may hold on to it for a while. I still
don't think that's a possibility. I still don't think that's
the right thing to do. If you're trying to rebuild
your organization on a reset, a soft reset or a
hard reset, depending on how bad this is going to
be for them, you need to figure out who you
want in this draft. You need a top ten pick,
and the teams that they're talking to obviously are gonna
all possess top ten picks. Uh Grizzlies said that they
(24:29):
were not interested in the Kevin Durant. The Knicks said
that Kevin Durant was interested in going to New York,
but the Knicks said, we're not interested in Kevin Durant
really yeah, Oh it was Yiannis the Knicks.
Speaker 4 (24:41):
We're all in on.
Speaker 1 (24:42):
I got those confused. I think somebody had reported I
don't remember who it was. It's all crazy. I mean,
the reality is it's just again, it's about thirty or
forty different people aggregating and guessing, and Nick's gonna hire
a coach. I don't know what's going on with that.
You figured when they've hired TIBs there was like a
plane in you would think, right, our plan has asked
(25:03):
every other team if we their coach, Yeah, and every
one of them said no. Maybe maybe they were hoping
that one was gonna say, okay, go ahead, take a look.
Speaker 6 (25:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
Maybe they were like fifty to fifty shots. Someone will say.
Even even Quinn Snyder and Atlanta was told no, you
can't go there. Atlanta's like the epitome a mid and
they're like, no, we like our guy. And Trey Young
was like, stay off our coach. Yeah. I mean even
Chris Finch in Minnesota was you know, might have been
a bump for him, and he's a good coach.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (25:33):
I like Chris a lot so. And then of course
the Rockets told the Knicks to shut their bumb masses up,
and anybody got time for taking your phone calls about
that as they should have. So, uh, I still firm
hole that that this will be done. I I think
I said Friday, it probably may not be until the draft.
But why would the Sun's weight post draft? That doesn't
make sense only if if someone's drafting for you. Maybe,
(25:57):
but that even seems weird. I mean, I'm just trying
to think of it. Do you go baseball style and
you're waiting for camp injuries? I mean, doesn't make any sense. No,
or football style? I should say, you know what it
probably is. It's probably the Suns wanting to make the
move of Minnesota because Minnesota's offering the most, and they're
spending the last handful of days convincing him that Minnesota
(26:19):
would be a good spot for you, and then Duran
saying no, It's like I don't want to go. So
think about this. Is Kevin Durant really anti cold Weather
or is he anti the Minnesota Timberwolves an organization? Because
I would presume that Rudy Gobert would go as part
of that deal to Phoenix. So if you were worried
about whether or not Gobert was a good teammate or not,
or could be a guy that you could win a
(26:40):
championship with. You're doing it with Nasried and you're doing
it with Anthony Edwards. You're not doing it with Rudy Gobert. Okay,
the list is a good veteran guy. I mean, Houston,
Miami and who else San Antonio would be the three
places that he would accept an extension in a better
spot the next few years. Rockets, Yes, Rockets better than
(27:02):
Minnesota after back to back absolutely music, I would say
going forward, okay, I mean with Kevin Durant on the Rockets, Yeah,
maybe not. I don't know. I think Kevin Durant helps
himever he goes to that. I'm not going to question.
I mean, everything's warm climate there, but but are you
really gonna say no to Minneapolis because it's just cold there?
Speaker 2 (27:26):
A lot?
Speaker 1 (27:26):
I mean, I look, I may be a hypocrite because
I did move from there because it was too cold.
I think mentally, yeah, mentally it's it's probably challenging, but
once you get there, it's not that bad. No, that's
not true. It's awful. But I mean, but but I've
been playing for the Timberwolves. Just the weather, yeah, I'm
(27:47):
saying mentally or like, yeah, it's gonna be cold, it's
gonna suck. But once you get in the routine of
it or whatever, if you're a dray, fine, if it's
not weather related, do they Does he think that maybe
Anthony Edwards isn't mature enough to do it to lead team.
Would Anthony Edwards, you know, acquiesced to duran or maybe
Durant doesn't think he would and say that, you know,
(28:07):
it's gonna be Anthony's team and still should be Anthony's team. Kevin,
you can't. You can't be Kevin Durant's team if it
goes to Rockets. It can't be Katie's team at thirty
seven here, it just can't. He could be a one,
A or two, but in Minneapolis you are, You're number two. Well,
Damian Lillard didn't want to go to I mean, he
wanted to go to Miami and there and the trail
lader said, all right, that's cool. I enjoyed Milwaukee. See
(28:32):
the Sons do that they need they need somebody else
to add to that list for Durant that he wants
to go play so they can bump up the price.
When you have three teams, and three teams only that
that Durant has told these Suns, I will go play
for that limiture your possibilities of those three teams trying
to antie up something more to make the deal happen.
(28:54):
Especially if you have one of the three teams, whether
it's Houston or sant Anturnio or Miami, You're like, we've
given you the best we can give. This is all
we can do. That will happen. But yeah, I just wonder.
And also, the Sons have no leverage. Everybody knows they're
trying to offload Kevin Durant. They know they want to
start Game one of the this year without Kevin Durant
(29:14):
on their roster. Everyone knows that. And they also want
to have draft picks back. They've got no draft picks.
You get one if you make a deal. Prior to
next Wednesday. San Antonios had the number two pick. If
they were to give that up, the Rockets have the
pick number ten, and I don't know what Miami situation is.
If the Rockets ended up with two, three, four in
the draft, do you think a deal's already done? That'd
(29:41):
be a question for rofell Stone. I'm saying, do you
what do you think? I think, yes, I think one
they would have kept. I think I think Okay, I'll
purely guess on this. If the Rockets had two, three
or four, do you want to extend to five? Only
could have dropped the jump the four, right, That's true
(30:02):
because after that five through nine would have been determined. Yeah,
I'll say, yeah, that the deal would have been done.
I think so too. So it was the luck of
the draw, or the unfortunate luck of the draw, or
sometimes deals you don't make end up going in your favor. Yeah,
because you don't want that number two, three or four
(30:23):
to be a generational player and you go grab a
guy that is obviously the downside of his career. Again,
I still think Kevin Durank score twenty five points a game.
I still think Kevin Durant's going to make whatever team
he goes to better. But father time never loses. Yes,
But here, Harry, I feel like I'm doing but after
butt after But the NBA player, the really good ones
(30:45):
stay good longer. Uh. Yes. Also, though it was a
good point, it was the podcast that we played. The
audio was that the Zachlone Kirk Coldsberry. They were asking
who is the oldest player right now who made a
huge impact and a team that made a deep playoff run,
Like we talked about these old stupers Steph Curry out
in the second round. Lebron, you want to superstars or
(31:08):
just good players in Q making a huge impact or
in the finals. How about who's the oldest player in
the finals making a huge impact. Well, right now it's
Miles Turner probably. Yeah, he's not even been that great finals.
He's not even that old. Yeah, I mean Miles Turner's
twenty nine Describe Mike Conney to the to the audience, Yeah,
Mike Conley, that's a good one. He's I mean, he's
(31:30):
a good point guard. He gets you. He doesn't score,
but he's a good distributor, doesn't turn the ball over
and plays a good defensive game for a guy his age.
You just I mean, that was just the first random
example I thought of. No, I know, it's difficult, That's
what I'm saying. I mean, Lebron James, what he's done,
what he does is, especially in the regular season, has
been great. He's been out in the first round for
(31:51):
like four straight years or something like that. Right, m hm,
but are you are you betting and then losing in
the first round again next year? Would with Luka doncic
if Lucas Howthy and they play together with forty two
and they get a real center there anything around them? Yeah,
all right. Uh, we've got a couple of different athletes
and sports Ross that had the need for speed. We'll
(32:12):
give you details on that, Okay when we return ten
forty four. It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross
seven one three two one two five seven ninety. If
you want to join us on this June teeth, many
of you of the day offs. If you want to
come in and say hello, you may do so at
seven one three two one two five seven hundred. Jonathan,
We're gonna very safely tell you you'll be suspended without
paying the next time you play. This is a bump,
(32:33):
give get us anything else. I don't care. Just set
a rotation. No, well, it's a crazy I don't hear this.
I don't hear this rotation on the shows. Gordy to
get out of the system. It's not me. It sucks
all right, movie on any other song? Uh, not that
many songs. I loving you. I know you did Okay
one or anything with Edie Bertel this this mini whatever,
(32:56):
this horrific song. God like it. Yeah, matt light and airy,
not light and airy. It's it's burning in my ears.
He listened to five seconds. Oh you don't hit them? Yeah, no,
I hate it. Oh yeah, all right, let's get back
(33:21):
to sport because people people need sports on a holiday,
and they don't need many, No, they don't. Zach Eaty
is a Memphis Grizzly center. I thought I thought he
had a very underwhelming rookie season. At times I thought
you could really take advantage of him, and then many
teams did. Yeah. I look at him and I go,
(33:44):
I'm glad the Rockets don't have him now he could
He turn out to be a much better NBA player,
you would certainly presume. So his limitations are always going
to be his limitations. Yeah. Well, he's got a fast foot,
a lead foot when he's driving. He does Indiana. He
was stopped a couple days ago west or east, This
says Lafayola fie P. It was southern Tipeicannoe County. That's
(34:07):
a great neame of a county. New tipe Canoe County.
He was driving one hundred and one miles an hour
in a fifty five zone on Highway Indiana twenty five,
seven h three pm, probably cause affidavit. When the trooper
(34:28):
caught up with a speeding car, Edie turned eastbound on
Tipican Neo County Road and stopped. Edie has an initial
hearing a ten thirty Monday morning for a misdemeanor charge
of reckless driving. Eightie told police he was trying to
pass a vehicle as an explanation for speeding. Now you're
saying to yourself, well, what kind of car was he driving?
(34:48):
What kind of car was he driving? He was driving
a It's got to be in a big suvney a
bo memento bo b oh be a BM Momento. Okay,
Kia Sorrento. Now one of the vehicles we own is
a Kia. They do a nice job. Very comfortable vehicle.
(35:09):
Huh if I'm rhea, am I bragging about this? That
my guy that you can go one hundred and one
in my car, probably the first of all that you
can fit in it? Was he seven three seven four. Yeah,
it'll be a little bit of a humble brag. Would
it not. I think you get the need for speed.
We'll get you a mono. Yeah, he's listed at seven
foot four. He's not cramming in a Lamborghini. But if
(35:33):
you were to say, let's go through a list of
potential vehicles that would go one hundred and one miles
an hour in an Indiana highway, I would not put
that vehicle in particular in my top five. Now get
to the other story you're going to get to, and
then I have a question before this other one. Yeah,
all right, well I know you're gonna bring up the
other one.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (35:52):
So the other player who has the need for speed
is recent draft pick of the Cleveland Browns, Shrador Sanders.
Let's see here. Uh, he was going over one hundred
miles an hour himself, and I want to read you
the details on that Tuesday morning in Cleveland. He was
only going one on one, but it was in a
(36:14):
sixty mile per hour zone. Apparently milk Kyper was in
the car with him. That's that's not true. I'm just kidding.
They're hitting the club. I have a question, what are
the odds they were both going one hundred and one
miles an hour. You're saying there were You're saying that
(36:35):
maybe the police cut them some slack. Well, maybe the
reverse is there aren't the penalties worse when you're going
over one hundred miles an hour? I don't know.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
I don't know the laws of thirty if you go
over threy to speed limit by charge, I was asking
that can't beat Chase Indiana because it says mis demeanor
on there.
Speaker 1 (36:52):
Oh he was going one on one and fifty five.
I thought that if Will went that over the limit,
that they would arrest you and take your car from you. Yeah,
that's crazy or remember they should? I just find it.
That's I mean, just perhaps coincidence. I guess they're both
going exactly one hundred and one miles per hour.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
Isn't that what happened with the guy from the Raiders
and he ended up in Las Vegas blowing up the Well.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
Yeah, he committed he committed vehicular manslaughter. I don't know
how fast he was going. I think he was going
faster than that. He was in a sports car. I
don't remember what it was, if it was a Ferrari
or a Lambeau or what he recently. I think there
was like a tearful apology for they let him out
of prison, and I saw some story. I didn't read
the detail all the details, but he and he went
(37:38):
apologized to the family. But you know, it's funny you
just brought up I didn't think about. The First thing
I thought about is, uh, we have too many people
in society, whether they're professional answers or not. Uh huh,
that don't understand that going that rate of speed can
kill a yourself and be others. Yes, and that whatever
(37:59):
charge they get does something a light bulb get turned
on in their brain to go, you are playing with
your fate. My daughter, my I have three wonderful children.
Two of my three kids have lead foots, and it
is a constant argument with them. And one time we
(38:20):
monitor on GPS, really and the young one, my Carly,
is about to get seriously in trouble. She's got one
more strike against her or she's gonna lose her car
for a week because her rate of speed is now.
Her driving itself is fine, she uses her blinkers, she
looks on both ways, she's not too close a vehicle
(38:41):
and farm her. She just goes too fast. So that's
what I thought about. Yes, And maybe I'm coming from
a from a falloid perspective of No, it's good. Yeah,
fatherly perspective is good. It means you care. I mean
you want people to be safe. And so that's what
I've thought about, is that Shador Sanders and Zach Eatie
are ridiculously blessed that they got pulled over and nothing
(39:02):
else happened beyond them getting pulled over.
Speaker 2 (39:04):
I think it just.
Speaker 1 (39:05):
Comes with life experience. I mean, I used to drive
faster when I was young, and no, I don't care,
No I do go in now all of us go
over the speed limit. They're in a single human being
in this world that goes over the that doesn't go
over the speed limit. But when you're in that, once
you get past like eighty, you or now granted you
can get killed by a cargoing thirty miles an hour
much less anything. But I mean, when you're on the interstadium,
(39:26):
you're hitting eighty for eighty five, you really are playing
with fire. So that's what I thought of. I thought of,
especially because I'm trying to teach my kids, especially my
youngest one, you cannot go to those kind of rates
of speed that they're doing that. But like my my
biggest brain and I'm sorry, Carl if you're listening, But
she'll go fifty seven and a thirty and I'm like, girl,
(39:48):
you have got to slow down. What does she say,
I'm sorry? And I'm like, I'm sure I wasn't paying attention. No,
she knows exactly what she's doing, and she knows that
we follow her to her speeds. So she's about to
get the ham are pretty quick and she's very social
this summer, so she's gonna she better give it him keys,
you's got to strike two going against her.
Speaker 3 (40:08):
You said she's not taking a car to college, right,
you might as well let her have had the last
little year, you know.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
I'm no, I'm not.
Speaker 1 (40:12):
Gonna let her go twenty five miles over the speed
let it no, come on, come on, Jonathan, what are
you talking about. He's only taking it away if she's
breaking the rules. Yeah, she can drive all she wants.
Speaker 3 (40:22):
Thought, he's already taking away.
Speaker 1 (40:23):
No no, no, no, no, no no no. But she
needs to slow down, Yeah, said, get on the Hoffey,
let's go. Let me tell you something. Make those keys.
My mother still calls me and says, are you how
are you driving? Okay? Really? Yeah, I don't think anybody.
I don't think anybody that has that's a parent ever
wor not doesn't not worry about their kids driving, no
matter where they're going. And I'll be ninety one years
(40:45):
old in a home and worried about my kids driving.
That's good man, because I got people like zachiat Insha
dur Sander's going one on one on the streets these kids. Today,
second hour of The Matt Thomas Show with Ross begins
with a visit with our friend Mike and San Antonio.
Brian McTaggart not here today, so gonna go back to you.
Our friend John Lucas, former longtime NBA player and coach,
will be with us at twelve thirty today. We have
(41:06):
the news at noon, we have I just don't get
it coming up in a half an hour. But don't
you get Ross. Thirty minutes from now we'll find the
answer to that. Seven one three, two one two five
seven nineties is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross. People
asking me if there's gonna be a funeral service for
(41:27):
Cheeks if you didn't catch the show yesterday, we set
our farewell to my hamster for two years. No funeral services,
but Donations can be made to the Venmo account of
at Sports MT. Wow, what don't give him anything? I
we're just saying, if it's to take him out of
the freezer bag and put him in a little tucks, you.
Speaker 3 (41:49):
Go forward that plan? Did you figure out what you're gonna.
Speaker 1 (41:51):
Do with them? We're gonna bury him. We just got
to make sure the dogs don't know where are bearing him. Well,
so you can't do it on your property, why don't
you go to a funeral home and have a service.
Get a little plot. You already got guessed. Well, yeah
we know that, Jonathan. Yeah, that's not hopeless. Let's not
let's not get did the formalities of what happened? We
(42:12):
have to relive the trauma Jonathan, geez, yeah, No, one
of your girl thinks you're not very sensitive. Uh well,
if you missed it, it's on both of them. Well,
it's on all of it. It's Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
We posted we had a little during a commercial work. Actually, no,
listen to our wonderful sponsors. Listen at two o'clock yet o'clock. No,
(42:35):
I think we're going to Fox Sports Radio two o'clock.
I mean, are the wextern Clanton working today, there's no
They tried to bag off every holiday. Yeah, they get
most holidays off and never work on the weekends. When's
ever heard you heard Adam Clanton or Adam Wext on
the weekends of anything. Zilch. That what I'm saying. You
and I work weekends. I'm working late night, frinting night
as a matter of for you are I'm not working
(42:55):
this weekend, but I was working last weekend. I don't
mind working weekends until college football starts, and then you know,
we'll let Damn Matthews handle it all right. Seven one
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven ninety Astros bludgeon the A's again.
ROSSI yes, five and a half game lead for the
local nine now in the West because the Mariners lost
(43:17):
again Yesterdayay actually lost in the daytime. They finished their
series of the Red Sox on the drop two out
of three. That was terrible. That's a shame. And jose
L two Ve hits a home run while somebody was
screaming for him to get his trash can suck it.
Thank you, veryes fan, thank you John Boy Media. Courtesy
of MLB I'm proud sponsor of John Boy Media. Ridiculous,
(43:39):
it's awful. Let's talk to some people. Let's go to
our friend, Mike and san Antonio. Love it oh five
with the Matt Thomas Show. Ross, Mike, thank you for
holding in. Good morning, Good morning guys.
Speaker 6 (43:48):
A lot to talk about animals today. I am not
in the shower and I don't have any animals with me.
Speaker 1 (43:53):
Thank you very much. You're you're a normal human being
that it makes me happy.
Speaker 7 (43:57):
I try.
Speaker 6 (43:59):
I have a question for you about the Rockets. Before
I get into that, you were mentioned about mc taggart
and his his heritage.
Speaker 7 (44:05):
He's from Scotland.
Speaker 6 (44:06):
I just yesterday finished reading the book he wrote for
the second time. I finished reading it and it mentioned
that his parents immigrated from Scotland and like in the
mid seventies. It's a great book. I'm wondering if you'm
Matt updated the Astros. I'm sorry, the Astros one hundred
things to do, to see and do before you die
for Astros fans. And then so he asked something in
there about it.
Speaker 1 (44:26):
But oh, okay, one of the motherlands, he.
Speaker 6 (44:30):
That's the that's his motherland, Yes, Scotland. So incredible what
the Astros are doing. But I have a question for
you on the rockets, and you may have talked about
this on the show. I don't know, but what would
you say would be reasonable for them to do to
get Durant. I'd love to see him just to get
that kind of shooter. But what's reasonable for them to
(44:50):
give up? I mean, I know, you know they got
to negotiate it.
Speaker 2 (44:53):
You don't want to give.
Speaker 6 (44:54):
Up everything, But what would you what's your opinion about
what they should do if they are going to try
to get it?
Speaker 1 (44:59):
Thanks Mike uh. I do believe the tenth draft pick
is in play? That'd be as a starter.
Speaker 2 (45:05):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (45:06):
My guess is a future first round pick would be
in play. Yes, because I do believe that the Suns
want draft capital, I think it would be my guess
to start would be ten for twenty nine. They have
twenty nine, you have ten plus a first rounder, and
then probably then Jalen Green, which they would probably move elsewhere.
(45:28):
You get a third team involved, and we're not guessing
that that's there have been multiple people that have said
the Sons are not particularly interested in keeping Jalen Greens.
You gotta find a third team to move Jalen Green somewhere. Again,
this is if you believe what the rumors are out there. Yeah,
and then either of Dylan Brooks or Jabari Smith Junior,
probably Jabari Smith Junior being more attractive to the Suns.
But if it matches dollar for dollar, can you can
(45:50):
you do that with Jabari because he's still relatively cheap,
or do you have to have Dylan Brooks as part
of the pack. Is a top three pick? I think
I think he's making a good, good chunk twelve twelve
to fifteen a million a year. I can go. Look, yeah, okay, uh,
that sounds about right. Yeah, if you're doing in Jabari,
then maybe I don't know Aaron Holliday or Jock Landale
(46:11):
or something like that, something like that. Yeah, filler, not filler,
but you know, filling up the contract Aaron did okay
for the Rockets with unlimited time.
Speaker 2 (46:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (46:21):
Uh, I would probably agreed towards what you said. I
also believe there'll be more draft pics involved. I think
the Suns are looking for now. Again, just because the
Sons want something doesn't necessarily mean they're going to get it. Yeah,
that's the feeling that we're getting on the streets right now.
And that's where I think raphel Stone hits a limit
and it's like, no, we're good, yep, then something, let
(46:44):
me throw this at you. Then. So if you have
done everything to appease Phoenix and said here's what we
want to give you, do you do what kind of
San Antonio is doing and kind of getting at the
setting out the vibe that maybe that there isn't going
to be a deal done and that maybe you can
try to get Phoeas to come back and say, okay,
we want you involved after all, because again, the lesser
(47:05):
teams that are involved in trying to get Kevin Durant
out of Phoenix, the lesser the hall is going to be.
So you're saying the Astro, I mean the Rockets pull
out of the deal, or well, if the Rockets, if
the Rockets pull of San Antonio, that leaves really Miami
and then Minnesota. Here's the reality. It sounds like to
Minnesota is the one that's got the best package of
(47:27):
them all of all the teams. And you hear Toronto's
being involved a little bit, You get the Clippers involved
a little bit. But remember there's only three teams that
duran Is, at least through his agents, have said that
he would be willing to sign a long term deal
with which again to me, it's like, okay, oh, the
thirty seven year old won't sign for four years. Oh no,
it's what I understand. It'd be two years after this,
(47:48):
it'll be total three years. Okay. Well, the thing of
it is is that there a certain age you can
only sign so many years. They're correct. Here's the reality.
A lot of those teams, we'll give stuff up for Durant,
but they're gonna but they're not gonna give up the
fortune for a one year guy gut feeling, he's a timberwolf. Timberwolf. Yeah, timberwolf, timberwolf. Okay,
(48:15):
for one year, for one year, and then he gets
to go pick where he wants to play for his
final couple of years left, and if they get lucky,
you make a deep run, maybe they can convince him
that's a good spot for him to be in. And
he signed a two year extension and that is a
huge ask. And by the way, Anthony Edwards, like you know,
in the Stand for You tab Ross, which I'm getting
caught up in Anthony Edwards is like again one report
(48:36):
doesn't mean it's accurate. One thing I saw on Twitter
yesterday and I almost feel like I got to bookmark
these bad boys said that it's not gonna Anthony Edwards
has basically said it's not my job to convince Kevin
Durant stay Minnesota. I don't know. I think if you
bring Kevin Durant in because you're if you're new owners,
Alex Rodriguez and his buddy and the general manager of
(48:59):
the Wolves says, hey, Anthony, you guys have gotten to
the Western Finals the last couple of years. We did
something we think is gonna get you over the hump.
Why wouldn't you do your best to try to convince
Kevin Durant to stay there? Doesn't Kevin Durant, Minnesota, Timberwolf
have give you like Elijah and Toronto Raptor vibes just
saying ain' out loud, Patrick Ewing, Orlando Magic. I mean,
(49:22):
we can go down the list, but you know what
I'm saying, that's that's weird. But here's the thing, how
do you if you make this deal, how in the
hell do you spin it? Kevin Durant has to have
an introductory press conference. Kevin Durant is gonna have to
answer questions in Minnesota. She say, yeah, it's a business
(49:42):
and I'm here to win. But hopefully he didn't get
too bad of an attitude. But Ross, let's let's be
let's be practical for a second forgetting about Kevin Durant.
Just talk about anybody. If you get sent on a
job assignment to a city you don't want to go to,
(50:03):
if you've already got that built in your mind, unless
it's just this most wonderful experience, you're gonna probably say that,
but in your heart of heart, you're probably only going
to give sixty percent. Well, Luka dont you could tell
Luka dun which wanted to stay in Dallas. Of course,
Lakers are a better landing spot. I was going to say, okay,
but you could tell that he wanted to be in Dallas,
and you could tell in the press conference that, you know,
(50:24):
when he was asked questions, that he thought he was
going to be in Dallas for life. Uh, Damian Lillard,
we mentioned would wanted to be in Miami, and they
said it in Milwaukee. They said, you said Milwaukee, No,
I said Miami, all right, Milwaukee. He didn't want to
be there, but he is. But but it's easier to
be there. Well, I guess the same situation. It was
easy for Damian Lillard to go there because Giannis was there.
(50:46):
And it's also easy to go to Minnesota and get
to play with a great young coach and Chris Finch
and Aunt Edwards. I think now reads a free agent.
But Rudy Gobert, they've got pieces, they've got good players,
and they made the Western Finals the last two years.
Wyn Wamboo who and you're getting fifty four million dollars.
See that's the reason why I'm trying to piece this.
Why would Kevin Durant exclude Minnesota for the mix? If
(51:06):
Minnesota is an up and coming basketball team. It is
coldse but no cigar two straight years. He doesn't want
his brittle bones to snap in the cold. He's playing
in Oklahoma. He played in Brooklyn, which is cold, but
that's that's New York City. I mean it is what
He's in Phoenix, and he listed San Antonio, Houston and Miami. Yeah,
(51:28):
apparently he believes humanity is not an issue. Yes, what
are they? Humid? Subtropical? I think is what he's looking for. Yeah,
I don't know, I mean, couldn't Minnesota. It's your call.
You're gonna call a shot on this one, Okay, So
if you're let's take it one more extent beyond that,
if you're calling Minnesota, does he then play there one
(51:50):
and done or does he go Wow, this is fun
being with these guys. Yes, he goes. He goes Kawhi
Leonard style. One year on your says all the right
things and have all the cap space to sign him.
He'll be able to sign the biggest deal back in Minnesota.
You know what, My crystal balls is a little fuzzy
that far out. I will go with Minnesota. Timber Wolf
(52:13):
see I in San Antonio. Originally that would I don't
want that to happen. I don't want that to happen either.
Actually part of me wants. Part of me wants it
to be Houston. It does, you know, but I understand
if it doesn't happen again because you don't want to
mortgage what has already been built here. Yeah, we talked
about the Rockets trusting the process. This Burds can trust
the process too. They've just got Nearon Fox Winby comes
(52:37):
back Stefan Castle, as you mentioned, and back to back
rookies of the year. Yes, you have the what number
pick to they have two? Yeah, I have a pissed
off trust the process als got one and san Antonio
got two. Life's not fair.
Speaker 2 (52:51):
You know what?
Speaker 1 (52:51):
Now, and I think about it, I might even see
san Antonio trusting the process more more than even the rockets.
That number two pick. I mean, truth be told. Two
to ten is a pretty seismic difference, all right, eleven
fourteen on Sports Talk seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seven nine. Let's go into the scorecard
the last night's Astro's game and just brag about how
badly they beat up on Oakland A's pitch. What is
(53:15):
the magnet with me? It's fine. They were saying, let's
go Oakland in the stands yesterday they were yes. M
By the way, there was a slip of the tongue
on the Oakland A's television broadcast last night. I wasn't
watching it. Well, you couldn't because we were in Houston.
I want you to listen to it during the break,
and then I want you to let me know if
we can say it, we can use it on the
(53:35):
air or not. Okay? Seven one three two. What problems
we can't I've already asked a question to Ross. I
already know the answer to eleven fifteen on Sports Talk
seven ninety. I just don't get it. It's coming up
in the next segment that TIMEA show with Ross. We'll
have John Lucas coming up at twelve thirty talk at
(53:56):
some rockets and NBA as well with game number six
the in A Finals tonight. Phone lines are open for
you on it. Anything goes. Holiday Thursday, Happy Juneteenth to
everyone out there. Seven one three two one two five
seven ninety is the phone number. So can we play
it or not? No? Seven one three two one two
five seven There was Oh, let's put it this way.
(54:18):
There was a slippitch of the tongue in the A's
broadcast yesterday. And you can find an awful announcing because
they found it. Once you retweet it and tell people
to find it at yours at your Twitter. See that's
a nice, no okay fun. I'm gonna retweet it. You do,
you can find it. See that's a nice no okay fun.
I'm gonna retweet it.
Speaker 2 (54:35):
You do.
Speaker 1 (54:35):
You can find it on my Twitter, and then I'll
re tweet yours Sports RV. You can't retweet my retweet
dry can I can like it? Okay? Yeah, no, I
just like the original one, all right, coming up at
the bottom of hour. I just don't get it here
on the radio program. This is where you get to
call in and you're confused by things and we're trying
to help you out. We have three different respectives. We
(54:56):
have a successful man myself, we have whatever you are
right now, and we've got the young and young and
surviving Matt sixteen years in this business. It's good. It
ain't nothing. It ain't nothing. A lot of guys die
for sixteen years. People be dying for sixteen months, apparently
some cases. All Right, So the Astros win yesterday, Kim.
(55:20):
I've always been bullish on the al two VA three
thousand hit thing. Now, granted, he's gonna have to have
sustained success for several more years. Health health, health, health
and health. That's number one key to me, because he's
gonna he can hit until he's fifty. He's got the
greatest hand to eye coordination of maybe anybody I've seen
in an Astro's uniform. Yeah, but yeah, if you miss
(55:42):
fifty games a year because of a variety of ailments.
You're gonna have a hard time getting there now. Thankfully
he hasn't had that issue at this point. But Rossie,
he can still sock the baseball. Yes he is he
the great? Now, I don't know the answer to this.
I'm just throwing this out out there. Is he the
greatest sub five ten hitter in baseball history? There's got
(56:06):
to be others? But can Jimmy Winn?
Speaker 2 (56:08):
Was he?
Speaker 1 (56:09):
But I want to put him in some particular category. Uh,
how to Hack Wilson? I think only had a few
good years. See, you're making me bring a look up
Hack Wilson. You don't have hack Wilson in the brain.
At least I brought him up. You did. I'll give
you a credit. Told Hack Wilson for the Chicago Cubs.
Let's see Hack Wilson listened five to six. Hack Wilson
(56:31):
had a fifty six home run year career ops plus
one forty four. Now my computer's freezing. Otherwise I'll get
you Jose Al two Bay's career ops plus Ooh, Okay,
so the answer is no. It took you five seconds,
but I got heck a Hack Wilson on the north
side of Chicago. He's the greatest diminutive sledging. You've got
(56:52):
a same al tube three for four yesterday. Three ribis
his average now to two seventy seven ops is seven
sixty four, which is well above league average. It is
third on the team right now, behind Pinya and Produce.
So here's how it works, your top three hitters. Actually,
the ops of uh Al two bays is less than
(57:14):
cam Smith's. But but but but there's been more plate
appearances for all two bay. So let's see that goes
into some of it here. Toy Cannon, that would be
Jimmy winn Oh, he's five to ten. You can't be
toy cannon five ten? Uh he No, he was the
toy cannon. You can't take that away from me. That's name. Yeah, okay,
(57:36):
So then who else? Who else is short guys? I
mean Tony Camp didn't have much of a cur Now
we love Tony Camp. But how tall was Pete Rose?
Speaker 2 (57:44):
I think.
Speaker 1 (57:47):
Always looked like a diminutive guy. Yeah, uh five eleven. Okay.
So that's a little bit about what we're talking about.
All right, So if any if you all can help
us out, give us some people that you would think
are short to Morgan. Ooh, Joe Morgan's a great call.
That's from Google. I just stole it from Google. That's okay,
you got hack Wilson, I named. I should give me
some credit. Uh yeah, you get a hack as I think,
(58:10):
what wasn't gonna think about? Hack five to seven and
Joe Morgan career ops plus one thirty two, two time
MVP twenty two seasons. By the way, woo, yeah, I
wonder what his prime ops plus was probably a lot better,
got a little worse. How many hits? The gentleman looking
at Joe Morgan's hit total, he finished with two and
(58:31):
seventeen hits. That's it. Get together, Joe Morgan. He can't,
he's not, and there's no possible chance he can do that.
It's a mister three thousand situation. Hes gonna go back there? No,
not at all.
Speaker 8 (58:42):
No.
Speaker 1 (58:43):
I wouldn't even be close. Not a bad effort, but no,
that would be no chance of that. By the way,
coming up at twelve twenty today, we have the you
found a list did you not?
Speaker 9 (58:55):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (58:56):
I did.
Speaker 1 (58:58):
It was from our friends at Barstool Sports of the
greatest player for every franchise. There's only one player active
in baseball who is considered by them the best player
in franchise history. Okay, and we'll get that coming up
at twelve twenty today because we got to I just
don't get it coming up now. Now I could be
I just don't get it. You have a holiday and
on a Thursday, don't you. I mean June nineteen moves
(59:21):
around me. I mean it happens. July fourth is on
a Friday, and it's not always on a Friday. I
told you one of the dumbest things ever, one of
the dumbest things I ever thought, was that Christmas always
had to be on a Friday. They show Actually, I'm
not gonna they should do that. You know when I
first thought of that, Johnathan wasn't born anyways, staying with
me in this. The reason why I thought that was
(59:42):
because it felt like many years of were Friday. And
then we had a Christmas Day game last year on
a Wednesday where the Texans play, and I'm like, what
are you doing playing Christmas on a Wednesday? You don't
have Christmas on just for twenty fifth? So you second,
I told you I learned things that you know. I
can't I can't separate Pat Benatar and Joone Jet. These
are just things I fighting with all the time. Incredible.
(01:00:05):
We shouldn't believe it or not? Today is Pat benaturn?
If it's not Pat Benait's Joan Jet, that wouldn't mean that.
That's not a bad idea of fun. That sounds like
a lot of work. You can do it. I like
to make stuff up. Okay, you do Pat or Joan? Yeah, Pat,
believe it. If it's not it's Joan, that's easy. That's easy.
Joan get relegated to know. Okay, Well then, because we
(01:00:26):
played the Pat song, okay, we can do Joan, Pat
just kidding? Are both alive? Yeah, we're doing that again
and noon today. It's a good song. It's a banger.
It's okay. I don't realize how it was that a
little lot longer song. It's only I thought it was
seventeen minutes. Yeah, you did not think. Don't listen to him.
(01:00:51):
You know, if you're a DJ, you play three songs
Stairway to Heaven, American Pie and I got a Davida
and it got anvida and uh anything with James Brown,
he can make any song make you know money's worth
on a on a jukebox.
Speaker 2 (01:01:05):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:01:05):
BB King's loose Seal, It's quite nice. It's ten minutes long.
You get your Money's worth on the jukebox. One time
I was at a bar and somebody went to the
back and fit fast forward. They skip my song. I
was like, I want my money back. This speciful. I
know we're gonna we're you gonna cut a rug on
the floor with blue Seal.
Speaker 2 (01:01:22):
No.
Speaker 1 (01:01:23):
I think it's a good song. Get your Money's Worth
a jukebox? Okay, all right, what don't you get you?
Maybe you don't get this radio show. I mean there's
been a lot of others that agree with you. We
are you gonna hear? Where are you gonna hear? Joan
jet Hack Wilson and BB King's lou Seal in one
segment one other show, Matt, I don't challenge you. And again,
(01:01:44):
you could find other shows that bring you better content,
but we brought ours seven one three two one two
five seven. If there's anything in your life you don't get,
whether it's sports loaded or life relateded, you've got three
different perspectives coming to you next here on Sports Talk
seven ninety. That's one, that's two rise. Do you want
(01:02:12):
a third. I don't know. I'm scared. You told me
not to look at the internet. Say, can I get
a third? Can I get a third?
Speaker 3 (01:02:22):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:02:22):
Okay? What sport? Basketball? Basketball? Two? Kevin Durant would be
way more yep. Uh is it Rockets specifically? Yes? Good
or bad? Good? Okay? On an extension for that is correct? Yes,
(01:02:46):
Rockets coaching madok has agree to a long term extension
with a franchise that makes him one of the highest
paid NBA coaches. A good feeling hit for me, by
the way, good for him. This is no brainer, especially
when the Knicks thing got floated was a no brainer.
He's getting re upped. His initial deal was four years
for twenty eight point five million dollars, so that's seven
(01:03:08):
million plus a year. And the new extension is not public.
I don't think, not from Shams Okay, So I don't know.
It's funny you don't. It takes a little longer to
figure out coaches because you don't think they play them
public unless unless he just wants to write, yeah, unless
some he wants to offer that up. So there you go, uh,
(01:03:29):
emy Doka. I mean, let's let's put the cards on
the table. The Knicks call. They're the only ones thinking
about he may doka down the road. He's a great coach,
one of the five best coaches in basketball if you
ask me. Yeah, yeah, good for him. So he may doka.
It's got himself a new extension. Great players love him.
Wants to win. Signed that he signed on the dotted line.
(01:03:52):
So things sound like things are going well over there
in Rocketville. Seven million dollars, Yeah, I want to be
shitting in the ten spot. Probably m good for him,
But think about it. If you're paying I mean, if
you're paying players thirty forty fifty six million dollars, what's
ten million to a coach.
Speaker 2 (01:04:10):
That you know?
Speaker 1 (01:04:12):
But a coaching does matter in basketball, of course. But
it's funny. We went through the list of like all
the guys winning coach of the year, and now they'd
all been fired. Basically, that's right, that's right, So no
Coach of the year for you. Dooka All right? Eleven
thirty five. Hit the music, please, Jonathan. This is a
(01:04:33):
segment where's our AI jam? Yeah, it would be a
jam that Sorry, don't worry about it. It's too old.
Game's gonna putting it in there, Okay, that's fine. Do
you have something in your life that's just don't get
no need to worry, no need to We will just
(01:04:54):
the something. Just see if we comprehend the things that
they can use our friends. It's time to stay nice.
And now the music Doom Doom, Doom, Doom doom. All right,
this is the segment where you call in about your
life and what we can do to help you if
(01:05:14):
you just don't get something. Okay, uh, Jonathan you got
You gave us nothing yesterday during schut your ball man.
Speaker 3 (01:05:21):
So I'm going to ask you, guys, I don't understand,
and this is about women, so just just.
Speaker 2 (01:05:29):
What there.
Speaker 3 (01:05:29):
I don't understand why women wear these thick, huge wedges everywhere.
I think that's the most I don't understand the I
don't know if that was with you guys when they're
growing up, or the style or whatever. And now now
you're on top of the wedges. It's all the lit filler,
the botox, the the fake. It's like we're living in
(01:05:54):
uh you know those that haunted wax Museum. The it's like,
I don't know, it's you can't tell what a person
is a real person that you'll know where the're race
is not. They just all look the same. And I
don't understand. I don't get it.
Speaker 1 (01:06:06):
It's nice, easy for one. For me, my man, I
totally get it. It is the it is the internal internal,
it is the never ending quest to remain young. Simply well,
i'll tell you insecurity.
Speaker 3 (01:06:20):
Do you guys spell that way? Do you guys speel
like you need to be younger?
Speaker 1 (01:06:22):
No, guys don't feel that way. Typically, Like some guys
get for done, they get you, put it in, put
hair dye, they dye, they're great. I mean I think
putting black hair color or blonde or whatever in your
hair is a sign of not want to get older. Yeah,
it happens to guys too. I would say, it's just
more and it's not even really to me. It's not
even women to for for men, it's women to other women.
(01:06:45):
If we're being if we're getting real talk here, just
because how many times you're going out with your lady
or something you're like, oh, yeah, yeah, I don't care
how you look. You don't have to do your hair,
and she's like doing makeup for twenty five minutes and
you're like, what are we doing? I said, you don't
have to do makeup.
Speaker 2 (01:06:57):
Let's go.
Speaker 1 (01:06:58):
But it's it's for her and for I think women
to look at other women. I think, yeah, there's there's
a constant competition when that's from that's women that are
twenty three years old and that are fifty three years old.
It's like there's a Chris Rock bit where he's like, uh, women,
women are the most dishonest people on earth. He's like,
you're not that tall, you wearing heels, You're not not
(01:07:20):
that tall, you wear a makeup, your face doesn't look
like that. It's a funny little bit, but it should
have be there. You didn't think it's it's it's a
shock Rock bit. I'm just saying, Chris Rock is funny.
By the way, I think, oh no, no, no, no,
Chris Rock. Obviously Chris Rock does the bit better than
I do. Have we ever done a fantasy five of
(01:07:40):
best stand up comedians? Yes, you Lost, You Took, You Took,
Lisa Lampinelli and Carrot Top. Car Top was funny this
past weekend. I gotta say he's not one of the
five greatest of all time. He's that one of those
people that have the plastic too. I just don't Yeah,
understand to see you were talking about that that other day.
Speaker 10 (01:07:55):
He get it.
Speaker 1 (01:07:56):
Yeah, it's insecurity and sometimes but don't you think growing
older is a sign of natural insecurity. I think I
think it's in absolutely, it's more comfortable in their a.
It's most people. I wouldn't say ten out of ten,
but i'd say eight out of ten people are worried
about looking and getting older. The only time I ever
look at myself and go, God, I'm getting old is
(01:08:17):
in my face. You gonna get some work done? No,
But I'm just saying that.
Speaker 3 (01:08:21):
I'm like, but do you ever say pride in like
I look like a good old man like I'm that
day that Thomas is the last person asking do you
think he's good looking at But you know, shut up
both of you.
Speaker 1 (01:08:36):
Yeah, I get it, So I'll say, Jonathan, I absolutely
get it. I think people are insecure about their looks
and growing old is a very difficult part of the process.
And it's I will say this, it may be vain,
but it's totally natural because it's it's it's with just
about everybody. They're all we're all worried about looking older,
growing older, and getting and looking older, and the lip
(01:08:57):
filler thing is out of control. It starting. I think
it's the cardash It's the Kardashians could do it all
that right, right, everyone wants to look like a Kardashian,
like Matt, would you let your daughters get lip pillar
and stuff? And I came home and they had like
some jumbo you know, excuse me, like jumbo lips.
Speaker 3 (01:09:17):
You know the point I'm making.
Speaker 1 (01:09:18):
Don't make this weird.
Speaker 2 (01:09:20):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:09:21):
At a certain point, I have to let them be adults.
But I would not encourage it. And certainly when she's
into my house and spending money of mine that she
didn't earn, if she wants to go get a job
and spend her money on that, I can't. I wouldn't
be for it, but I wouldn't hold her against it.
But no, I'm not spending my own personal money for
a seventeen year old to get that kind of stuff done.
(01:09:42):
But I mean, I'm just telling you. Look, I'm in
my fifties, my wife's in her fifties, Our friends are
in our forties and fifties. It's I can go to
any party that I'll go to and probably eight of
the ten women if it had something done, whether it's
light bulb or whether it's okay with though, Oh it's everywhere,
Are you kidding me? It was probably probably good, yeah
(01:10:02):
in the woodlands, probably worse than the woodlands. Oh yeah,
uh Cypress. Big money out in Cypress, Yeah, bub Way,
you need to start shame in Cypress. They got a
lot of money out there too. You sall's big, big
old houses in Cypresstown. I haven't been on two ninety
in like three years. You're you're consider yourself blessed seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one
(01:10:23):
three two one two five seven ninety Chad is with us?
Speaker 2 (01:10:27):
Chad?
Speaker 1 (01:10:27):
What don't you get my friend?
Speaker 7 (01:10:30):
Okay, it's on this John Boy stuff. So y'all said
that you hadn't heard much about him. He's got a
pretty big YouTube bit a bunch of the stuff he does,
it's kind of funny. I still listen to him. I
don't care about cheating anymore. I get booed at bush
gardens when I wear my yord on jersey. But some
of the stuff he does is bad lip reading. He
(01:10:50):
will lip read calls on the field, coaches, players getting
mad at umpires, and it's always critical of the umpires.
How did the MLB agree.
Speaker 3 (01:11:02):
To this.
Speaker 1 (01:11:04):
Because that because MLB chat. Unfortunately another one of the situations,
I get it. MLB has had a difficult time getting
a hold of younger viewers and younger fans of the sport,
and they think that the John Boy group, largely East Coast,
largely New York and the number one media market, and
largely under the age of thirty, is a way to
(01:11:26):
attract people to their sport. So anything that MLB and
John Boy collaborate together with, I get it. Because MLB
can't do it on their own. They need to get
John Boy involved. There will be nothing that John Boy
will be able to have to change because John I guarantee.
If you're John Boy and MLB comes in and says
we want to buy part of your property, first of all,
(01:11:48):
they're ecstatic. But John Boys going to say, well, wait
a minute, what made us successful is who we are
and how we put out material and put out media
and put out tweets and do all our socials. We
can't change it. MLB is like, that's fine, here's ten percent.
It's it's it's awful. It's mostly Yankees fans. I still
(01:12:08):
don't it's not the right Avenue. That was here. Take in.
We had a supporter of John Boy Media the other day. Yes,
some younger people still. Yeah, I watched their content yesterday.
Who's friend? Oh oh, the guy was watching the show. Yeah,
Nico liked he's a Dodgers fan.
Speaker 3 (01:12:27):
But I thought there was you know, I was just
you guys said, No one cares. I'm just saying I
know people liked him. He was a big like. He
followed them all, he knew everything about it.
Speaker 1 (01:12:35):
Yeah, he also likes the Dodgers and the Heat. Wait
a minute, should we just call him Captain Dan Wagon
or what? In the real Madrid? Real Madrid, which is
like the big the biggest European evil Empire club. It's
is the Real Madrid. That's like liking the Yankees. That's
why I'm team Liverpool. Liverpool is a pretty big power too.
(01:12:55):
But you know, thank you. We we're doing our best.
They're reigning champs. Great all right, Uh, if you have
something you don't get, we're here for you. Seven one
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven ninety The news and Nun's
coming up and again if you just joined us, where
ay where the hell have you been? Be dang glad
to have you and see Imadoka has got a new
(01:13:16):
contrast extension that will keep him as one of the
top paid coaches in the association after the Rockets fifty
two game win of a year ago win season seven
one three two one two five seven nine zero. I
(01:13:37):
wouldn't normally ask you to follow Ross on Twitter. Matter
of fact, I wouldn't follow him, but go to his
Twitter ac County. He does have a fight with Adrian
Peters in a poker room. It's pretty funny. It's from
TMZ Sports. Can I just tell you I've shaken. I
always say this to you, but it's different audiences, different days.
I've shaken, uh, shook un or shaken, shaken, shaken. Adrian
(01:13:57):
shook his hand. I shook his hand twice. The bones
were cracking in my hand every time.
Speaker 2 (01:14:02):
I was Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:14:03):
He's legendary for a very strong grip, and quite frankly,
he gets pieced up in this video. I'm surprised whoever
this guy is. First of all, Adrian Peterson starts running
at me. I'm running away correct and likely getting caught,
of course, because I was doing a show in Minneapolis
and We were at a Rick Sporting Rix Roaring Woods,
(01:14:26):
my gosh, and he did an appearance there and I
went and shook his hand when he got there, and
I was like, I can't move my right hand and
I'm not trying to embellish.
Speaker 2 (01:14:37):
It was.
Speaker 1 (01:14:39):
Ross the most I mean I am. I'll be ninety
eight years old. You'll be feeding putting to me in
the home and I'll be telling you be asking me
who the hardest handshake was in my entire life, and
I will say Adrian Peterson. Yeah, won't even be close.
This guy must have boxing training or something. He's got
a pretty good stance. He got a clean one on
him too. He's throwing counter rights. He he's ducking back.
(01:15:01):
That's how they tell you, you rock back and then
come forward with your right, with your That's what he's doing.
This dude must got some training. And then Adrian Peterson
slips and falls and then he gets caught. I thought
once he got him in the corner, it was over.
This guy did pretty good. I would not be fighting
Adrian Peterson. And then my favorite part of the video
is that and this is what happens when you get
(01:15:22):
a room full of dudes nice nice referee. By the way,
everyone just kind of yeah. The the security guard, he's
like out whatever, let him fight, and they see, that's
what you that's what I want to do. If there's
two people who want to slug it out, who want
to throw hands, and nobody's got a knife for a gun.
Speaker 2 (01:15:39):
Let him do it.
Speaker 4 (01:15:39):
Let him fight.
Speaker 1 (01:15:40):
And then if somebody's being pummeled and you grab him
and you pull them on this guy. Once one guy
starts getting knocked out, yeah, and starts seeing stars, then yeah,
you pull them off of them and then you shake
hands and you move on with your life.
Speaker 4 (01:15:51):
That's how it was back in the day.
Speaker 1 (01:15:52):
That's what doing the hockey. They let him fight exactly.
That's what they should do for Draymond. And when the
first when the first tooth is in the air, then
you called today. Yeah, that's true. You go, you go
try to find it when you're spitting chicklets go pick
them up. By the way, why do you want to
be why do you want to be the referee in
that situation? You're gonna get beat as bad as other
two guysctly, so I love it now. They try to
(01:16:14):
break it up at first, but then they're like, all right,
let them fight. Yeah, Kenneth on seven ninety Kenneth, what
don't you get my man?
Speaker 5 (01:16:20):
Here? That's about beats Nicks. Man, Well, I just don't
get it. You got a coach that took me somewhere,
you ain't been in it twenty five years, and you
find him with no damn plan and then you turn
around and it's like, you know, you roll just something,
you know, Oh we may want em Doku or Jason
k Who.
Speaker 2 (01:16:40):
The hell you think you are?
Speaker 1 (01:16:41):
Man?
Speaker 5 (01:16:41):
I just don't get this man.
Speaker 2 (01:16:43):
What would they thinking? Mate?
Speaker 1 (01:16:45):
You know what, Kenneth, I just don't get it either.
I don't either. You figured when when you fire Tibbs,
I mean multiple time coach of the Year and and
got you to the East Finals. And sure it wasn't perfect.
People thought he was a little too rigid, but you
knew that the day you hired him. Exactly you gotta
(01:17:08):
have a plan in place. He gets the full public backing.
Now maybe Jalen Brunson privately was like, naw, this guy's
gotta go. Then I would get it. And by the way,
that happens a lot a lot of coaches will publicly
say one thing and privately say two things. But funny
because Jalen Brunson was asked about that as soon as
they lost their Eastern final Indiana, and it was like, no,
that's our guy. He's he's the reason why we are
(01:17:29):
or where we are, and then he gets fired like
the next day. So and my thought is, you don't
make a move like this without getting Jalen Brunson's input
on that. So, yeah, I get it. I don't get
I don't know what the Knicks are doing, but whatever,
all right, last call for anybody. I just don't get it.
(01:17:51):
Go I didn't. Yeah, I didn't get you in mind
what you got? Why am I getting like ten to
fifteen I understand bots and spam are a part of
uh social media, but why does it continue to happen? Who?
Who is responding to these messages? I get ten to
fifteen dms not just from your guys, wives and girlfriends,
(01:18:12):
but from from spambots. I'm just kidding. By the way,
you heard that, Trevor, it's the real I was apparently
and apparently they're fantastic sports from yesterday? No, why why
am I getting? Why is this happening? I don't get it?
How is this unchecked. Who are these people that are
(01:18:32):
signing up? And a lot of times it's like verified accounts.
Don't you have to pay money to elon musk to
get this verified account? Do they just pull like a
dummy credit card and then it gets declined so they
can do it for a month. I don't understand. I've
been blocking these people every time I can, and it
doesn't help because I think part of the reason why
I get them is because there are followers that I
that slipped through and they wind up in the and
the bot system figures.
Speaker 3 (01:18:53):
It out and you guys put the like block other
accounts too, like it says a block, and you can
block other accounts that might be associated.
Speaker 1 (01:19:00):
With where is that at? I want that button?
Speaker 3 (01:19:03):
I know for a fact on Instagram you can definitely
see I'm we're talking about the old X platform.
Speaker 1 (01:19:07):
They might have changed it. I know you could, though,
let's see. Yeah, it's ridiculous. It's like, hey, here's my
contact info? Are people clicking these links? What's wrong with you?
They must be Nobody would be farming out all these
bots if they weren't getting some of y'all in your
credit card information. Clicking on these bots, folks, use your head.
(01:19:31):
The hot young lady in lingerie is not reaching out
to you because she loves you. It's a bot and
she doesn't and she doesn't listen to the show. And
you can go check her picks out and then then
then block. But they're not real pegs. There's somebody I guess. Yeah,
they don't. They don't ai those those things. All right,
that's it for this week's I don't have anything. I
(01:19:52):
I use I've got everything.
Speaker 2 (01:19:54):
I think.
Speaker 1 (01:19:55):
I think this is unprecedented in the history. I'm trying
to think. I don't get on this people.
Speaker 2 (01:20:00):
What what did you say?
Speaker 3 (01:20:02):
Because I just saw a video just now they built
an entire barn and from at from.
Speaker 1 (01:20:09):
Seven am to nine pm it was done. I don't
and I'm young, I don't. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:20:13):
They just they just roll people that live in America
and that just built people.
Speaker 1 (01:20:16):
Yeah, they just they they reject modernity or whatever you
would call it technology, and it's just a religious thing
as well. Obviously they're born into it. I'm gonna let
you go with this. I have, I mean a lot
about the inner workings of the of the the honest
I don't they make great they make great furniture.
Speaker 2 (01:20:38):
I saw.
Speaker 1 (01:20:39):
I saw a tweet the other day or it was
a it was a video or Instagram or something like
that where yeah, there's some guy hired them to build
a deck on his house.
Speaker 3 (01:20:46):
See that's an exact same thing too, is that it
was you.
Speaker 1 (01:20:48):
Saw a barn and a deck. I saw too, because like,
these guys aren't getting this deck done by They're like, yeah,
we'll get it done by shundown. And then if they
had it done and it was these guys are incredibs. Now.
They don't drink. No, they don't use electricity though no
we did. We did a non floor story one time.
They got busted with like a pack of cops. Light
oh on the on the porse and buddy, they didn't
(01:21:10):
even spindking for the expenses. I don't know if they drank.
Maybe they're not supposed to drink. And it was like
some rogue kids. By the way, I just checked my
Twitter account. I have muted five hundred and eighty three accounts.
Oh I've muted over over twenty five hundred. I have
blocked six thousand, seven hundred and thirty seven accounts. Oh wow,
and only about fifty of them are real people. Most
(01:21:33):
accounts I block are fifty are just are ore could
be more than that. I've had at least fifty people.
Tell me you've blocked them, so you can get thinking. Unblock,
get unblocked. That's all they got to do is just
pretend they're If they're real, then I'll follow or at
least let them follow me. It hasn't happened a while though. Yeah,
I'm saying thank you. Probably all right. Eleven fifty eight,
The News at Noon is coming up. We've got the Astros,
(01:21:54):
a little bit of Rocket news. Yes, do we have
anything on Kevin Durant. You'll find out with the News
at noon after we hear from Pat Benatur and one
of the Goats songs apparently she didn't sing anymore. Eleven
fifty eight on Sports Talk seven to eighty is the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross second straight day Rossie for
(01:22:17):
the local nine. They get double digits and runs and
the Astros now lead by five and a half games
in the American League West, the Socket best record in
(01:22:38):
the American League. By the way, I didn't you know
what the Angels Ooh, this is gonna be good. I
thought the series of the Yankees was over with. They're
playing a day game. Then they're gonna fly five hours
from LA from New York to LA after the game
to play the Astros tomorrow night.
Speaker 8 (01:22:54):
Woo.
Speaker 1 (01:22:56):
This is called a fat and heavy road trip sports
Harvey Advintage. Is that what you're saying. That's what I'm saying.
They don't play it on nine seven. Oh, that's true
seven local times. There you go, No, six thirty eight
because I got to do the on Deck show and
do the post game. Oh I'm talking about tonight the Astros. Yeah, yeah,
then yeah, they're fine. Only on an hour flight between
(01:23:16):
Sacramento and in Anaheim. Tot late game, day game be
better'd be great. Well, actually it would be three h five,
which means the Adams would have a day off today.
That also mean it's like a five hundred degrees in Sacramento. Yeah,
it's nice, Revity once all right. Time now for the
news at noon, and with that we present to you
(01:23:38):
the one and only man who will not stalk your
girlfriend in Instagram. It's Ross Viler. Thank you, Matt. No,
I won't. I don't stalk anybody. All right, let's start
with the news. Yes, you played the highlights from the
Astros taking out the trash with the A's. They're thirty
and forty six on the season, Astros forty three and
(01:23:58):
thirty one. From about was quality despite five walks for
from Er, still just five hits, two earned runs, three
strikeouts for him on ninety seven pitches. He also had
a wild pitch. Not the most efficient evening for him,
but he was able to get some double plays as
(01:24:20):
well to get out of some trouble as he has
a three point zero nine ERA on the season. Matt
from Avaldez all star worthy. He's all star worthy. He's
also once again doing something he did a couple of
years ago, giving you back to back to back back
quality starts twenty hits for the Astros, four different as
(01:24:45):
excuse me, is this correct? Yes, five different Astros had
three hits, Matt, including Jake Myers who has his average
up to back to up to three hundred on the season.
But Jose Altuve, how about him? He's swinging a hot
bat seven is average ops up to seven sixty five.
He will be shortly catching Jeff Bagwell on the Astros'
(01:25:11):
all time hit list. He has twenty three h nine.
Jeff Bagwell has twenty three hundred and fourteen. By the way,
barstool has a list of the greatest players for each
individual team and we will tell you who they think
the Astros are. Greatest player of all time is coming
up in about twelve minutes from now. All right. Elsewhere
in the news at noon we mentioned this some breaking
(01:25:32):
news in the last hour, Rockets head coach Ema Adoka
agreeing to a long term contract extension that will make
him one of the highest paid coaches in the NBA.
According to sham Sharani of ESPN, he was already making
seven million in change per year he was finishing year.
He just finished the year two of his four year deal,
so he's got two years off from the current deal
(01:25:53):
that could be torn up obviously because there's no rules
about that, and putting him now on the upper echelon.
And my guess there'll be a matter of only not win,
but I may a little bit if in a little
bit of win we found out how much it is,
But it only matter because you don't the capital the notches.
I don't care. He's getting paid good for him and
by the way, don't ever call on him. He's not available.
Speaker 2 (01:26:12):
Bye.
Speaker 1 (01:26:12):
How much does he think does he send a thank
you letter to the New York Knicks for expressing interest
in his services, maybe up in the dollar amount. The
reality is it didn't hurt. It did not hurt that
I may was getting phone calls. And again, my guess is,
if you're Chris Fincher doing the exact same thing in
Minneapolis right now with the Timberwolves, she's staying, Uh, yeah,
the New York Knicks and Jason Kidd too, probably in Dallas.
(01:26:33):
Don't think it's some positive pr I would think so.
I would think so, Matt. How much are you following
the College World Series?
Speaker 2 (01:26:41):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:26:42):
If you want to talk about the final three plays
of the game last night, I'm quite a bit. Arkansaw
eliminated from the College World Series. Some are calling it
the biggest choke in College World Series history. Two outs,
two on a ball hit to left field and I
can't remember the left fielder's name, but doesn't matter. But actually,
(01:27:02):
you gonna talk about the play before that, he would
go ahead the play first and second, one out, ground bottle,
the shortstop not guaranteed, but more than likely going to
be turning a double play. Arkansas wins the game. Instead,
the shortstop third throws the ball to third base, gets
the lead out. Instead of getting two outs, he only
(01:27:23):
gets one. And then that's when the big era happens
in left field. Big air happened in left field, and
then LSU walked it off there going into the championship series.
Also in that walk off, the ball off the club
of the second basement, he could have caught it for
the third out and then they would have went to extras. Yeah,
(01:27:48):
college baseball doesn't move the needle. But if any fan
base that doesn't deserve any additional breaks, it's LSU. I mean,
my god, seriously, they should have they already got seven
should I don't want to hear from Gordy and the
people up here if they eat Gordy. You know Gordy
would do. He'd walk in, he would talk normally, and
then we start and then he starts raising his voice
when LSU comes in, Hey, but what about this?
Speaker 4 (01:28:10):
What about this?
Speaker 1 (01:28:11):
And no, we're talking about our disdain for your school.
He'd be wearing an LSU championship T shirt. I'm telling
you this, how many graphic tas are a d his closet. Yeah,
you guys can plain about h I don't pay for shirts.
I don't think I've seen his shirt. Gordy paid for
in probably fifteen years, paid for all those that is
he really nobody's paying for that. Yeah, he's got ed
Ojeon ugly sweaters. He's not getting those free from anyone. Okay,
(01:28:33):
well that name he needs to readjust his budget then,
and he's got those new Nike Airmax with the Astro
City connect. Them puppies are like, what is he?
Speaker 3 (01:28:42):
What kind of site?
Speaker 5 (01:28:42):
You know what?
Speaker 1 (01:28:43):
Man, this is locked down sec cash. We don't have
a marketing budget, but we got Gordy budget and it's good.
Those bad boys are like one hundred bucks seventy man. Yeah,
all I'm saying, take it a loan, Go Coastal Carolina.
LSU is probably gonna win another one. What are you
rooting for? I'm rooting a against LSU. Go say go
Coastal Go Coastal Carolina. What do they call? They're not
(01:29:07):
the Shanta Clears, are they? Who's the Chanticleers? I don't know.
I thought they were the Shanta Cles. Okay are they?
They're not the war Hogs? Okay, it is the Coastal Carolina. Okay,
go Shanta Clears, Chanticlears for Life, Harder School to get
into Coastal Carolina or l s U. I'm gonna say LSU,
(01:29:29):
but I don't know John Harder School to get into
l s U or SFA Hellsen. What do you gonna
shame him? Acceptance right at LSU one hundred percent, seventy
four percent? No way, you mean out of the rules
(01:29:51):
we had teeth, you got in, then you gotta have shoes,
and that rules a lot of people. It doesn't run around. Yeah,
eighty percent for the Coastal Carolina into clears, all right?
Anything else? Yeah, real quickly. I was going to mention
Matt your favorite artist. Drake apparently is really going through
it this month in terms of sports betting. He was
(01:30:13):
posting some screenshots of his Stake account, which is a
sports betting platform in Canada. This month, he has wagered
one hundred and twenty four million dollars in sports betting.
He is down eight point two million just in this
(01:30:35):
month betting a lot on the NBA Finals. Okay, I
don't know what his what is his his net worth
hundreds of millions. I would guess you're talking about endorsements money.
He's one of the highest selling artists of all time.
So if you look at his tax return, what do
you think his tax return was a mess? Is it? Fan?
Speaker 4 (01:30:56):
Plus?
Speaker 1 (01:30:57):
He's in Canada? Did he make take a lot of money?
Did he make fifty million dollars this past year? This
past year? Probably? Okay, So relatively speaking, one point eight
is not a lot. No, eight point eight point yes
it is. So that's I don't care who you are,
so temper point two million dollars is a lot of money.
Fifteen percent of his salary. If you've made fifty million
dollars a year, yeah, I could not take fifteen percent
(01:31:18):
of my salary and bet it on sports and living
a normal life. Yeah, I know. The famous actor we
knew once noon is now spiraling. It's unfortunate. And he's
still yet to make an appearance on Rockets Radio in Toronto.
You're trying to get him on. I've tried many years,
really with no success. Let's say I'm just putting Drake
networth two hundred and fifty million, says Board Panda, whatever
(01:31:42):
it eight minutes. I mean, it's a lot, it's a
it's a staying. Yeah, you gotta stop, you gotta stop
betting on Sports Drake, although he does have a sponsorship
deal with Steak, so it is a possibility that not
all this is actual losses could beginning a talent for
going six hundred thousand dollars on the Thunder to beat
the Pacers in games and another two hundred thousand for
(01:32:03):
the margin to be six to ten points in Indiana. Wow,
I think, yeah, Well, Tyres Halliburn's game time decision. Yeah,
he's gonna play. I think I bet you he plays.
This is a little tip, folks, from somebody who loses
its sports betting on long Sure, but I always feel
like they don't account They say, oh, Haliberry's playing, We're
gonna keep the line here. I think they don't account
(01:32:26):
enough for the how effective he's gonna be. So I'm
just saying Thunder minus the points in my opinion. Thunder
my opinion win tonight, Angels up won nothing at the Yangyes,
Mike Trout, there's a drime deep bluff. It is Michael
Trout who's not as good as Michael Brantley, according to
(01:32:49):
some twelve fifteen and that is the news at noon.
Barstool Sports says they knew who the greatest aster of
all time is. We'll tell you who that is next.
Speaker 2 (01:33:00):
All right.
Speaker 1 (01:33:01):
I'm not a barstool guy. I don't respect them. I
don't respect John Boy. I just don't bombastic, crazy, not
thought provoking, medium, no interest in Now. Some people say
that maybe their shill, but that's to each its own.
I think we are at least we make you think
a little bit provoking. Yeah, all right, where does one
(01:33:23):
get a mask down? Before?
Speaker 2 (01:33:25):
You?
Speaker 3 (01:33:25):
Guys saw at that point I had to call asked
a question for you guys, Yes, sir. And they wanted
to know about the World College World Series and why
they put the extra green bag on the first base.
They just added that to sport to make sure there
would be further fewer collisions between first basement and runners.
Speaker 1 (01:33:38):
It's safety. Yeah, they talked about doing in Major League baseball.
I think they should do it. It would avoid times
there's collisions. Yeah yeah, it would avoid guys running into
the bag at first base. Very simple. Yeah. I think
it's a great idea thinking this. They need a pitchclock
in college World Is it the same clock as major
League Baseball? I don't want you any college baseball, right, yeah?
(01:33:59):
Text eliminated rather early, so I haven't been paying attention either,
all right, Okay, so barstool puts out its list of
the greatest of particular teams. Now we're not gonna do
all thirty. We'll do a handful. It's a guy named
Chris Klimmer of Barstool. Okay, and this is the greatest
player of that franchise's history. He puts the greatest players
(01:34:20):
in every franchise's history, made a list. Okay, let's go.
Let's let's see how while I do on this. By
the way, John Lucas going to join us in about
ten minutes. Okay, give me a team that you think
I should probably have a pretty good chance at a
good chance. Let's start with the Division Mariners. Ken Griffy, Yes, correct,
(01:34:43):
I was gonna go either Griffy or Echiro As. Gotta
be griff because he was there a long well pitcher,
hit or hitter. It is a position player. Martin maguire, Mmmm, no, earlier.
(01:35:03):
I'm assuming he played there of yeah, earlier, but also
kind of around the same time. Not Carney Lansford. Uh more. Hint, Well,
I'll give you the easiest hint of all. Go ahead,
he played there four different times with the athletics. Oh oh,
(01:35:24):
Ricky Anders, Yes, okay, that's that makes sense, okay, Angels,
Rod Carew No, not Mike Trout. Mike Trout really, for
as much as often as he's been injured, he's like
a four time VY three or four time MVP. Okay,
it's just it's been so long since he was those days. Okay,
that's true. All right. Uh so he's the only active
(01:35:47):
player among these thirty that is correct, okay, which means
who mean well with this new Rangers, real quick, greatest
Ranger of all time. I'm gonna go I feel Paul
Merrow No, but around that era Will Clark No. I'm
(01:36:08):
trying to think of a good hint former astro, former astro,
not Ken kemen Enny, former astro. This feels like I
should know this former astro. He's the greatest astro at
the end of his career. Not Nolan Ryan No. Uh,
(01:36:34):
first letter of his name, first letter of his first name.
He I'll go most Okay, I figured it out. Okay, okay,
all right, So now we go to the astros. Yes,
and you know how I feel about jose L Twove,
the greatest astro of them all, except he's the worst
base runner in Astro's history. Mm hmm. So I mean
that could that could ultimately hurt you, but I don't
(01:36:55):
think it does because of the fact that not only
is he going to get close to three hits, he's
been a multiple Live All Star, he's been a batting champion,
and he has a Most importantly, he has a fantastic
postseason record, which puts him over the top of the
other two candidates in my opinion. Yes, uh, they listen
Craig Bigio or Jeff Bagwell, and there is a paragraph
(01:37:16):
on this. You can make the case for either Bagwell
or Bigio. I'm more of a Bigio guy, but I
understand Bagwell people can Altove catch them. When you consider
postseason success. You can make the case that al Twove
is already the greatest player in Astros. So really he's
he's basically towing the line on all three of the
guys he's He's not. They're not that that guy is
(01:37:38):
saying you can go with either one of the three. Yeah,
but he lists Bigio as his pick. I'll go with Bagwell.
I would get my my list, and I knowing it's
ever going to change alto one, Bagwell to Bigio three,
Ordon can get in there and Jake Myers for cam Smith.
Somebody used to work with us said that you Jordon's
or will be the greatest aster of all time. Well,
(01:37:59):
he got to get on the field a little bit more.
Here's the problem. He's never going to be that because
he's going to look. I don't want you to get
mad at me, but he is has an IH he's injury.
He has an injury history that is over multiple seasons. Yes,
I go with Bagwell because he is now the all
(01:38:20):
time Oh I believe the old PS plus leader all
time is your do? On number two is Bagwell? I
go with Bagwell because he's the all time OPS plus
leader four hundred and forty nine home runs. Yeah, thirty
thirty guy multiple, He got a thirty thirty season, correct,
he got multiple twenty twenty seasons. Great base runner gold
(01:38:41):
Glover at first. Yeah, yeah, the only reason why I could.
If you district strictly regular season numbers, I'd probably actually
lean towards Bagwell. But postseason to me is a is
a huge component of it in his reigning in New York,
which means there could be a delay, which means the
ag that's great. Yeah. Look, the postseason record absolutely is
(01:39:03):
a blight on Bagwell's record. Early on, I mean he
was getting shut down by carved up by the great
Atlanta Braves teams of the nineties yep. One of the
greatest rotations in history. Yep. And then he was bad
late in his career. Yeah, he was years old. His
shoulder didn't work all right, real quick, few more Mickey
(01:39:24):
Mantle for the Yankees. Am I right on that one?
Speaker 2 (01:39:26):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:39:26):
Let me look, No, I already know that one. It's
Babe Ruth. Okay, greatest Dodger of all time. Oh, pitcher,
this is for some reason, it is not showing up.
Oh okay, we'll take it. Take a time having issues
with my We'll giving final. We got John Lucas gonna
join us a couple minutes here, twelve twenty eight Sports
(01:39:47):
Talk seven ninety twelve thirty two. It is Matten Ross
with you on Sports Talk seven ninety joining us right now.
Is one of the great basketball minds, one of the
best human beings you'll ever get the chance to talk to,
listen to, and he's also a six time winner of
the Steve Harvey Lookalike Club. John Lucas with us here
on the Matt Thomas with Ross. What the hell have
(01:40:10):
you been? I haven't trying to chase you down for years?
What are you doing?
Speaker 2 (01:40:15):
Have you doing? Matt Thomas? Not very good? Everything's good.
Speaker 1 (01:40:19):
That's good.
Speaker 2 (01:40:19):
Hey, you gonna listen to you on the radio doing
Rocky James.
Speaker 1 (01:40:22):
Good good, good good.
Speaker 4 (01:40:26):
Hey.
Speaker 1 (01:40:26):
You got a big golf term in coming up on Monday.
Tell us what it's all about, because it's a very
very worthwhile.
Speaker 2 (01:40:30):
Cost Well, it's called the John Lucas Foundation, and in
that group is Jail three Elite, which are groups of
basketball teams that play all over the country. And it's
also kids opportunity for kids to get scholarships. And then
we have a mental health component that really helps kids
who need more help than a little bit in other areas,
(01:40:53):
whether it's in the drugs, alcohol, anxiety, and mental help
that we try to work with and serve and we
raise funds for those kids to be able to have
those opportunities. And fortunately for us, Matt, this year, with
what we've done, we've got over one hundred and twenty
kids who got in college scholarships. We've helped over sixty
kids get in the treatment and We're having a fun
(01:41:16):
golf event on Monday at Memorial Park with the Shell
open course, and we are going to have a lot
of celebrities and deaths, local Rockets and former Rockets. And
one of your favorite and one of my favorite persons,
says one of our coach Drummond is Kelvin Sampson.
Speaker 1 (01:41:35):
Is that right? Good for him?
Speaker 2 (01:41:36):
We have Calvin and we have some of the Rocket
coaches are going to be there all with George, Gervin,
Rudy to Joonovich, Penny Hardaway, Running Maxwell, Mario, Ellie, James Posey,
Mike James, DJ Augustin, and we have a lot of
people and a lot of corporate sponsors that are helping
(01:41:57):
us put this on in our kids and everybody. They
are really grateful to them.
Speaker 1 (01:42:01):
Well, I want to send people to your website, John
Lucasfoundation dot org is the easiest play to got all
the information and if you like to play golf and
you want to hang out with some of the basketball
lead in this community. Luke knows everybody. We were traveling
all those Rocket streets for many years and there wasn't
a town that you weren't getting hugged on by everybody,
So everybody knows Luke and he is going to be
(01:42:22):
a great cause and for what I look your career
as a player was something in your player as a
development coach, but what you've done as a human being.
By the way, a good friend of ours, a mutual
friend of ours, is celebrating one year of sobriety this week,
so I wanted to let you know about that, just
to pass that along to you as well.
Speaker 2 (01:42:37):
But that is really great to hear. You know. I'm
in my thirtyth ninth year. You know, Houston saved me
when I couldn't save myself, and that year was nineteen
eighty six. We went to the finals and I wasn't
able to go on that ride because of my drugging
alcohol addiction. But for thirty nine years I've been on
(01:42:58):
this city and been trying to give back and make
up with Amen's for what it did for me and
my family.
Speaker 1 (01:43:05):
And you certainly have done that again. The event it's
coming up on Monday at Memorial Park. John Lucasfoundation dot
org is the website now. Look for those that don't know.
You have been for a long time involved with high
school athletes and AAU teams and trying to get kids
to go play college basketball and whatnot. Tell me what
it's like right now compared even five years ago the NIL,
(01:43:27):
the club scene, the AAU. Are you having to do
much more accounting than you did just about town evaluation
and getting kids to go play college basketball somewhere?
Speaker 2 (01:43:38):
Well, you know, now with them being paid to go
to school, it really makes it difficult. And now people
really believe that they're at that level. And what has
happened at is now with it's like the NBA, it's
got free agency because at the end of each college year,
you can go get a kid that was on the
bench of a college team that didn't play. So it's
(01:43:59):
making it much charter for high school kids to get recruited.
And so they've got to be better skilled, they've got
to be trained better, and then their parents have got
to be educated quicker because a lot of people will
sell their soul for tweets and hits and they really
don't know the business and how this works. So part
(01:44:19):
of what the Foundation is doing is educating parents, educating kids,
and that finding the best fit rather than who pays
the most money is more important. For that part of
it and only about two or three people will really
get paid on teams now because they now have a
salary cap kind of restriction with them. And that name,
(01:44:41):
image and likeness, as you know, is only for those
that are the elite players.
Speaker 1 (01:44:46):
Yeah, so let me ask you this, if we didn't
have we know that the Super League kids are benefiting
from it, is that what cross section of the athletes
that you're dealing with are getting hurt by this?
Speaker 2 (01:45:00):
Really a lot of them, especially the high school because
why should I recruit a high school kid when I
can get a player that's played a year or two
in high in college may not have played on the bench.
Why would I risk my job or the opportunity for
growth for someone who hadn't get fully developed a skill
level it And there so the high school kid, which
(01:45:22):
where we are, is really affected. So really in the
in event, Matt, education is still the most important thing.
And if you can get an opportunity to go to
school for free as well as to kill an opportunity
to make some dollars for that, what a great opportunity.
But the key is college and education. And now with
(01:45:44):
the way things are going with AI or the more
you can know to be able to work is even better.
Speaker 1 (01:45:51):
John Lucas our guest John Lucas is big golf tournament
coming up on Monday. John Lucasfoundation dot org is a
website you can go to for all that. Speaking of
coaches and you, I've had a successful career in that
as much as you were as a player. Your son
is now the head coach of the University of Miami
thirty six years old. You are you going to go
try to help him out or is he wanted you
to stay far away from him right now?
Speaker 2 (01:46:12):
He wants me to stay as following from him as
I can right now. You know. I went to his
press conference and as the first time Matt I really
realized that my son had betured to a man. And
one of somebody said to me before, why would you
deprive him of him getting his own experiences? So he
(01:46:33):
asked me to move there. I refuse to do that.
I told him that he's on his own. And now
you go from giving suggestions to now having to make
decisions and being one of the youngest coaches in America.
One of the first calls I asked him to make
was the Kelvin Sampson to find out because Kevin down
(01:46:53):
from the same time in the same area in North Carolina,
and we live right around the corner, so I wanted
him to get a better I know the NBA game,
I know what it takes to get to college, but
in a college environment and building the right culture, I
don't think we have someone better than Kelvin Sampson in
the area. And then we have, you know, other people
(01:47:14):
that have been served as mentors. And he's been with
me my whole fifty years in the NBA, so I
think he's pretty well suited.
Speaker 1 (01:47:21):
Except to him, and he was previously an assistant coach
at Duke. What kind of learning experience do you think
that was for him? And knowing that he was gonna
if he was gonna take his own job, he had
to go to the right spot.
Speaker 2 (01:47:35):
Well, I think going to Duke was an opportunity to
see what top level basketball would be like and the
pressure of winning every game. So he got a little
bit of that. And those teams are trying to win,
but Duke is everybody super Bowl and so you know,
for them, they had to be on their games every game.
Scalary reports had to be on point, their culture had
(01:47:57):
to be what it needed to be. And I think
he's learned those things. And I think he's taken a
lot from Rick Bonds, He's taken a lot from uh
Shaka Smart, Rob Lanier who's also coaches at Rice, and
it's been a good resume builder for him as well
as john Shaw. And then he has his dad who
oversees everything from a difference.
Speaker 1 (01:48:19):
Yeah, so you're you're will you text him after games,
call him once a week? Why have you have you
figured out what you want to do in terms of
giving him a space? But yet you got a lot
of knowledge that that ahead of yours as well.
Speaker 2 (01:48:31):
No, I'm going to you know, the one thing I
learned man that there's only one me, There's only one him,
and he needs to find his his who he is
within the face of coaching. He's got to find out
what his disciplines are going to be, what is teaching
is going to be, what is education of teaching them
(01:48:51):
how to play it's going to be? And what is
confrontation's gonna be. I've never seen two people. I've never
seen a person duplicate themsels else to try to be successful.
So they needs to take a little bit from everybody
and then grow, and that's part of what I do
with our organization, grow them to learn how to become
themselves within an environment. And then I'd just take the
(01:49:15):
twelve principals and the twelve principles that I lived by
and apply that to the Lucas Foundation and to try
to help kids grow. And if you use those principles,
you'll be pretty successful again.
Speaker 1 (01:49:26):
The tournament is coming up on Monday, John Lucasfoundation dot
org for all the information. It is John Lucas's yearly
golf tournament, raising some tremendous funds for so many youth
in our community. Last thing about the NBA, who do
you like tonight? And do you think Oklahoma City has
a chance to build a mini dynasty over the next
two and three years.
Speaker 2 (01:49:46):
Well, you know, they've done a lot like we did,
Like we started later than they about five years later
because we were so good with James and that group.
But they've got a lot of assets. They can afford
to lose a young Peace two and restock through the
draft because they have their core now which is really young.
So I think that they're gonna But one thing I
(01:50:08):
notice about the game to night, I really if Aliburton
is healthy. I expect the game seven and I expect
okay See to win it. I think they've matched their pace.
And if you notice, these are the two youngest and
the game has great pace to it, and the two
teams with the most face in the league.
Speaker 1 (01:50:29):
All right, last thing, I want you to apologize for
all the shots you took at the size of my
head over the last seven or eight years. You got
a public form to do that right now.
Speaker 2 (01:50:40):
Every time I see you, it just seems to get bigger.
Speaker 1 (01:50:44):
Jesus, that was That was not what I was looking for. Luke.
Speaker 2 (01:50:49):
I love you.
Speaker 1 (01:50:49):
I love you like like a step grandfather, like a
step great grandfather. My man, congratulations on all your success.
Great success for you monday to go off term and
help you get some people out there. And thank you
for spending some time with us today.
Speaker 2 (01:51:04):
Hi, thank you man.
Speaker 1 (01:51:06):
I will, I will John Lucas with us here. Seriously,
he just always he would stop practice ross the rockets
are trying to get through practice and some saying good God,
you see how big that man's head is. I mean,
just trying to eumiliated all the time. That's rude, That's
what I'm saying. He had a chance to apologize. Pretty
funny though. John Lucasfoundation dot org Memorial Park this Monday
(01:51:29):
Healthy Living program focused on mental wellness, substance abuse prevention,
and youth basketball, all from John Lucasfoundation dot org. Oh,
look at the rain coming into New York. That's gonna
be a lengthy delay, Rossie. Yeah, I think I think
the Angels hit another home run too LinkedIn delay flight
cancelation perfect when Angels up to one, Yeah, it's a
(01:51:51):
rain delay has happened? The tarp's coming out? Oh yeah, no,
I just finished coming out. I think now they're yeah,
they're they're warming up again. I think it was a
very short rolling it up the tarp. Yeah. Oh man,
I had a call it.
Speaker 3 (01:52:02):
Just say that I really appreciate this interview, And he said,
John Lucas is one of the greatest guys.
Speaker 1 (01:52:06):
Like all, let me tell you something about John Lucas,
one of the greatest of all time. Just a good
human being and as literally Rossy as we know and
talked about for years, saved thousands of people's lives. Yes,
in athletics and out of athletics twelve forty five, Sports
Talk seven ninety Today's edition to Believe or not, Ross
is what he's still working on it twelve forty five
(01:52:30):
Sports Talk seven ninety Thanks again John Lucas for joining
us John Lucasfoundation dot org for his golf tournament coming
up on Monday. Very worthwhile cause. And if you're a
basketball junkie, he will have numerous celebrities and of course
Covid Samson he just said, we'll be co churing the
event real quick. Sham's reporting, or at least not a
report but more commenting says it's a game of chicken
(01:52:54):
right now. The Rockets, Heat and Timberwolves are literally one
or two pieces away from getting a deal done. My
feeling on this is and we and again this is
just purely conjecture from San Antonio side. I think the
Sons want the number two pick and the Spurs are
telling them no. Does that feel like that could be
a possible scenario. I think it is. I think, as
(01:53:15):
you brought up asked me last hour, if the Rockets
had had two, three, four, five, maybe they would give
up for Durant and maybe the Spurs don't want to
do that. Yes, Stefan Castle dearon Fox Victor Wembinyama that's
your three big cogs of that of that San Antonio team, Kevin,
Kevin durant on that team would scare me. It just would. Again,
(01:53:39):
I will be not petrified, but I will be like,
he's going to make whatever team he goes to a
better title contender than they are at this exact moment.
I will firmly stand ground on that. But it doesn't
necessarily mean it's going to be guaranteed because think about
it again, history shows most guys in the latter third
of their careers don't make that big of a difference,
(01:54:00):
especially when there's a huge financial ramification attached to him.
And Secondly, the last three spots that he's gone to
haven't panned out. Two spots that lived Brooklyn and uh Phoenix.
Yeah it was before Phoenix. Brooklyn was a golden state?
Was he golden state before Brooklyn? It must have it
worked out there for sure, but yeah, did yeah, you
(01:54:21):
know what I'm saying. No, I mean the last two spots.
And he had town around him in Brooklyn with Kyrie
and with James, and it didn't work out. He had
talent with him in Phoenix with Bradley Beal and with
the Devin Booker and it didn't work out, so it
doesn't guarantee success. But still I still think it's a
stock that you wouldn't having in your portfolio. He can't
be your best player, but he can be an absolute
(01:54:43):
devastating weapon. He wouldn't be the best in the Rockets,
he would be the best score Hmmm, who would be
the best player in the Rockets. I still think it's
a Men Thompson, not outprin Shingoon. I first man doesn't
(01:55:07):
score and Men Thompson his first team all defense. Mm hmm.
You can play four different positions. Yes, he can run
point one day and be your power.
Speaker 6 (01:55:17):
For the next.
Speaker 1 (01:55:18):
And he can cave in the front of the rim
with his shooting. Well, it's not that bad. Three point percentage.
Get was better year to year. What was it, twenty
eight percent? Well, I mean it could have gone down, saying,
I mean, I love him, and I'm also getting pretty
happy about what I'm seeing from the outprinching goon Turkey
videos that are being put out there too. What he
s well, he's dunking on dudes in Turkey. Hey, Turkis
(01:55:42):
could play, that's fine, said he would show me around
Eastant bof ever went fourteen. Hey, I wouldn't let you in.
That's true, those felony history. Fourteen points eight rebounds, three
point eight assists. He is just twenty two. He is
going to get better. You don't think, Okay, answer question.
You know we were talking about him getting benched two
(01:56:02):
games into that playoff series for Jabari Smith Junior. I mean,
that's that was happening. I think a man that was
a real discussions. I think a man can be eighteen
eight and eight and play great defense eight eight assists
per game. Long term, yeah, when Fredly, Hey, yeah, yeah,
(01:56:23):
I'm talking about right now. Next year, your best player
would be Kevin Durant. I think eighteen eight and five.
Oh hell to run Homer Yankees. They lead three to two.
That's a shame. Can Alpi go from twenty one eight
and four to twenty five ten and six. His field
(01:56:46):
goal percentagers have gone down three straight years. The only
part of Alpi's game that drives me nuts is that
little lift leg a flamingo shot. Finest shot. You don't
like the flamingo when it goes it was when it
goes down. When it goes down really to the moon
and it splashes in that's fun. It is fun. I
(01:57:06):
think I think the Rockets told him and get work
on his low post game in terms of back to
the basket. Would be my guest they told him to do.
I if he adds that, it can be even better
because he was an All Star last year he was.
I will make a boxing analogy in that it feels
like right now with Jalen Green and alprin Channgoon that
(01:57:28):
they can hit limits when they go up against the
best of the best, like a get like a fighter
who is a young prospect and he's coming up and
he's beaten this guy and he's beaten gatekeepers when it
comes to them championship fights. Alprin ching Gun was good,
but he wasn't efficient scoring. He led the team in points, rebounds,
assistant steels. That was great, Yeah, but he wasn't an
efficient scorer. He was shooting under fifty percent. Same thing
(01:57:50):
with Jalen Green. Jalen Green was he he got to
step up to the championship fight and he had knocked out.
But is that But who's whose numbers go up in
the regular season. Nobody's against good playoff opponents. It's not
about the numbers going up. It's about them dive bombing. Yeah, okay,
that's fair. Let's go to uh George and Cyprus at
twelve fifty four high George is another home run. How
(01:58:11):
you doing, guys? Good George, what's up? Yeah, it's back
to back home the Yankees.
Speaker 9 (01:58:17):
Oh, I just want to piggyback on what uh Ross
said earlier about trust the process. I mean, if Philadelphia
win a championship with the process, we need to go
out and get Kevin Durant.
Speaker 1 (01:58:28):
Now, no, they didn't. They had a bunch of injuries
as well in that process. Markel's Folts was a dud.
They were pretty good like around twenty nineteen, but Joel
Embiid's been hurt every year. I would say, as far
as teams who are really great right now who didn't
(01:58:49):
make earth shattering trades, who would you say, Well, the
Boston Celtics got Porzingish, the Thunder did trade for shake
gilg just Alexander, but then they built around him with pieces.
Jalen Williams was was a draft pick, was a draft prick,
but that wasn't They weren't looking to grab shake Yilders, Alexander,
(01:59:09):
Paul George told him, I want to go to law. Yeah, yeah, George,
there is there are fifty. If I took one hundred
Rocket fans, I believe they're fifty to fifty split, maybe
a slight tinge chords getting Durant. What would you say
if we grabbed one hundred Rocket fans? I don't know.
(01:59:29):
Poll on my Twitter at sports RV and I'll do
the same thing. And what we do want' we add
our numbers together? Or is that going to skew the numbers?
Don't just do it on yours, mad Then that's fine. No, No,
I will retweet yours to get you a few more tweets,
get you a few more bots. I'll tick the bots.
Speaker 2 (01:59:43):
I know you will.
Speaker 1 (01:59:44):
You don't get rid of bots. I get rid of
by my My account is clean, it's cleansed. It's it's
like silky white. And how much do you factor in
trading for Kevin Durant not only because he helps you,
but he doesn't help the Spurs or the Timberwolves to
so nobody else helps, so nobody else. You don't get
hurt by a history factor a zero percent factor. If
(02:00:11):
I'm the Rockets or any team in contention in the West.
I'm not just worried about San Antonio or Minnesota. I'm
worried about Denver. I'm worried about Oklahoma City. I mean,
that's why the West is so loaded, is because that's
if you just get one guy, does that solve all
your problems?
Speaker 2 (02:00:25):
No?
Speaker 1 (02:00:25):
But it also puts you in that category of, hey,
now we've got one more bullet to fire off to
help us try to beat those top to level teams.
That's why I think you execute the trade. You keep
him from the others. And I like the core here.
I just don't think this core is getting close to
where Oklahoma City is, and that's that's the dragon you
have to slay. All right, this should be quick, something
(02:00:47):
called Big Sea on the Matt Thomas stage, like in Oklahoma.
Where are you calling from? Big Sea?
Speaker 11 (02:00:54):
Small town Texas?
Speaker 1 (02:00:57):
What can I do for you?
Speaker 2 (02:01:01):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (02:01:02):
So, I'm always been a Dark Breast fan, and.
Speaker 4 (02:01:08):
So we're playing a trip.
Speaker 11 (02:01:11):
I haven't booked, had to book a flight in a while.
Give me you know, I know they went away from
there the note or what was it, free check bags
or whatever, So give me the give me the advice.
Speaker 2 (02:01:21):
What do I need to do do?
Speaker 11 (02:01:22):
I just need to shell out the cash and and
pay for the free Wi Fi and get on the
plane first and whatnot.
Speaker 2 (02:01:29):
Give me the give me the pro tips.
Speaker 1 (02:01:31):
All right, where are you going?
Speaker 2 (02:01:33):
We're going to Rhode Island?
Speaker 1 (02:01:35):
Really from what city? San Antonio or Houston? Probably Austin, Okay,
Austin to Rhode Island. Huh by the way, Yeah, I
love Providence. My daughter's gonna be playing college volleyball in
the state of Rhode Island in a couple of years.
Oh lord, I would probably do you have good you
(02:01:56):
have a good income? Or are you doing turn to
do this on a budget? No, we're We're fine, Okay.
I would probably pay on an airline that had wider
seat that give you more leg room, dark breast. Flying
to Providence with a change of plan is gonna be
kind of a pain. You could also fly NonStop to
Boston and then drive the rest of the way into
(02:02:16):
Rhoe Island if you want to do that too, Well.
Speaker 11 (02:02:20):
We were we were like to lacking the appeal of
a thirty minute drive or whatever it is.
Speaker 4 (02:02:23):
From problem.
Speaker 1 (02:02:24):
We're going to Newport, so that's for my daughter is
gonna be going to playing college and Newport. Yeah, and Kingston. Yeah. Yeah, uh,
I'll give you a further report when you when you
go in.
Speaker 2 (02:02:34):
July fourth weekend.
Speaker 1 (02:02:35):
Oh man, that's a great time up there.
Speaker 4 (02:02:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:02:37):
I would. We're gonna fly to Boston because we're gonna
My wife's not a big fan of connecting cities, so uh,
I don't know if you do. You guys travel a
lot or not much.
Speaker 4 (02:02:49):
About once twise a year.
Speaker 1 (02:02:51):
Okay. My suggestion would be fly to Boston NonStop and
drive a little bit more than compared to changing planes.
But in the plus the Boston air for it's gonna
be probably a little bit cheaper. But I would go
with economy plus whatever airline you go on.
Speaker 2 (02:03:04):
Yeah, I was gonna say.
Speaker 11 (02:03:05):
I guess my question was more or less referring to
just by the base, you know, cheapest ticket possible.
Speaker 1 (02:03:12):
Oh hell no, oh hell no, go ahead and cast by.
Speaker 11 (02:03:16):
The time you check it, yeah, by the time you
check in bags and whatnot. And you're gonna pay for
it anyway.
Speaker 1 (02:03:21):
Yeah. Oh yeah, yeah, I do that. Yeah, buy the
whole thing you need it, big seat. Thanks for the
phone call. Now it says something about my hairline.
Speaker 2 (02:03:27):
I was.
Speaker 1 (02:03:28):
I was a little worried about that.
Speaker 2 (02:03:29):
Miss How do you miss.
Speaker 1 (02:03:31):
Airline air Yeah, not airline airline Airline, Like, come on
the come hands back? Comis show with Ross?
Speaker 2 (02:03:39):
All right?
Speaker 1 (02:03:40):
I just check your Twitter account. Seventy eight votes are
in in the last eight minutes. That's not a bad number.
We can maybe get to about I don't know one
fifty one seventy five. Your question on Twitter was should
the Houston Rockets trade for Kevin Durant? You have got
forty percent of your voters say yes, sixty percent of
your voters say no. That to me sounds like you
(02:04:04):
are worried that you'll be giving up too much for
a guy who's thirty seven years old. That you're worried
that thirty seven year old turns into really old thirty
eight year old that turns into missus twenty five games,
doesn't played back to backs. I mean, he's still got it.
But there have been so many athletes that can't tell
(02:04:29):
you when their days are done. I remember Donovan McNabb,
Remember when his career basically ended on the football field.
He couldn't throw the ball anymore, couldn't run, couldn't couldn't
read defenses, and so when it stops, it stops. And
I'm not saying that Kevin Duran's gonna have that fault
because I'm not trying to make him the Doamin mcmab
a football. But point being is that I've watched athletes
(02:04:52):
literally see their careers end in one particular game, and
I think people are a little nervous that he comes here.
If he's here an injury or the shots not fall,
or he turns the ball of the more or the
defense isn't there, They're only getting a certain percentage of
what they think Kevin Durant can be. And there's others
that say he still wakes up scoring twenty five points
a game, and he still does that, but a question
(02:05:14):
of when does that eventually end? That's what the Rockets
are mulling over. And the Rockets probably in their minds,
say this, we think he's got this left in the tank,
and so if that's the case, then we're willing to
give you this in order to make that happen to
him for him becoming a Houston Rocket. Either that or
(02:05:34):
they are like Jalen and I'll be together one more time.
Let's go. Let's see what we can do, because we
think they can be better than they wore last year
and then get over the hump and win some playoff series.
Fifty seven percent from two, forty three percent from three
(02:05:56):
he shot last year. How many games do you play
sixty two? He's a freaking nature. He is a freak,
and he is in that category of guys that you
think can probably play well in their late thirties, if
not forties, because that is something that we're now seeing
in today's NBA. He's shooting fifty seven percent from two
(02:06:17):
and he doesn't really get to the basket like he
did it when he pulls up of the elbows. He
pulls up and he makes fifty seven percent. By the way,
don't think the brand new extension to stay with the
Houston Rockets coming down earlier today, I may doka brand
new extension. Also, we had played the Zachlo audio yesterday
(02:06:41):
saying that the coaching staff is more into Kevin Durant
than the upper management. Uh. Some correlation or no correlation.
I will say no correlation be because I think this
(02:07:02):
happens with every trade. What do you mean, I think
who is a man? I don't know because I don't
know how their teams operate. It would be foolish to
believe that every time a team makes a trade that
the coach and the general manager are on the same
(02:07:23):
page every single time. You maybe the Clippers organization, maybe
maybe uh Tyrone Lew said yeah, I want James Harden.
Maybe the general manager the Clipper said I don't want him,
and then Clippers GM says, all right, you want Tyler,
you want James, you make it happen. Or maybe there's
somebody that's like a general managers like this is a
(02:07:44):
great value trade, let's go get this guy. Maybe the
coach isn't the biggest fano. I would just say, knowing
the NBA streets, that if you can get the coach
and GM degree and everything, that's wonderful. I just don't
think it's possible for that. Yeah, I mean, there's obviously
enough of a lit lack of friction that he just
signed this extension. Now, of course the dollar signs and
the zero's on that extension probably has something to do
(02:08:06):
with it. Just thinking Email has got to feel pretty comfortable.
I mean, got a bran new extension. I think Rafell's
gonna gar an extension too. I mean, they from wall
all accounts, they work very well. Together. It's you know,
with Tilman now involved in the Italy stuff, Patrick his
(02:08:29):
son is now intimately involved in it really always has been.
So my guess is it's a deep three man conversation
with a lot of things thrown against the wall and
see what sticks. I think the rockets again, you don't
hear the rockets pulling out, and enough people would say it,
enough people would would whisper to somebody to say the
rockets still aren't interested. So that would mean to me
(02:08:52):
that is like, man, get him here, I'll make this happen.
But he Hema has also got understand if and we
talk about this on the Sure yesterday, if Durant gets here,
it's championship or bust. Right, you don't bring him here
just to win fifty four games in the advanced one
round of the playoffs. But if he comes down like
that pressure, I think you don't love. I think he
(02:09:16):
wants thrives in it. And honestly, for me, I want
that from my coach. I'm not looking for steadily improvements
like I got fifty two and I got my ass
kicked again by Golden State. You know, it's just remember
how much we were talking about how much. We hated
Golden State. Guess who beat him in the NBA Finals
Golden State Warriors. True, so he's lived with that, is
(02:09:36):
live with that, frustrated, tortured as we are.
Speaker 3 (02:09:38):
Yeah, the same base.
Speaker 4 (02:09:39):
That's exactly right.
Speaker 1 (02:09:40):
Hate Warriors, we hate Warriors, We hate Raymond Green, we
hate Steve Kerr, we hate Steph Curry. We barely tolerate
John the kaminga. Yeah, okay, Moses Moody, Brandan Pajemski if
you will, yes, hate that guy? Terrible hair? Does he
terrible hair?
Speaker 3 (02:10:00):
I don't really Okay, Yeah, that's pretty accurate statement.
Speaker 1 (02:10:04):
Yeah, see he knows he backs to day. I don't really.
Gary Payton the second, they don't call himself junior. He's
a second. What's wrong with that? Sounds more stately? Gary Payton?
Am your kid? Something else?
Speaker 2 (02:10:17):
H Lucas?
Speaker 1 (02:10:18):
You just had us John Lucas the second, Yeah, but
he doesn't call himself that. John Lucas the third was
his son Jay? Well, yeah, I think Jay. There's Jay
and there's John Lucas the third. I think he's multiple sons, right, Yes,
you know I haven't talking about his kids. Okay, Shit,
can you help us out with your family Tree. Yeah,
John Lucas the third and there's Jay Lucas.
Speaker 2 (02:10:39):
MM.
Speaker 1 (02:10:40):
That's confusing to me. I know, let's do it. I mean,
I want to see it. I'm telling you to be fun.
I think the sixty percent of these people saying no
on my Twitter poll, they'd be like, oh my god,
the Rockets got Kevin Durant. Yeah, that's funny. Know what
(02:11:00):
this feels like? This feels like baseball guy, now when
I wanting to give up prospects. Oh my god, Joey LOPERFTO.
Now it's not the same. Here's not the same. Real quick.
So if they're if they're saying no in your poll,
are they saying it's because you're afraid they're giving up
too much? Or are they saying that you would be
giving up anything that you are team Jabbar, you are
(02:11:22):
team Jalen, you are Team out. But you are whatever's
here trusting process. Yeah, that's the question. Why are they
saying no? Okay? Are they saying no because it's Kevin
Durant at thirty seven? Guess part of it. Part of
it is the age and the worry that he would
(02:11:44):
get hurt. But you know what, Matt, life is short
he can't live the whole time worrying. You gotta roll
the dice. He's been relatively healthy the last couple of years.
I think he wouldn't have been shut down if they
weren't trying to tank for for draft position, which well,
I don't even know if they actually they didn't have
their own pick, so maybe they weren't doing it, but
they just were. They were gonna make the playoffs anyways.
M They weren't trying to tank. They were just they
(02:12:07):
just were bad. It is a risk, it is for sure.
It's not a neither way. It's either way. It's not
a sure fire situation. One fourteen of the Matt Thomas Show,
one nineteen out Sports Talk seven ninety. The Astros took
care of business, knocked off the ace last night, chance
to take three out of four. Right now, the Yankees,
(02:12:30):
who trailed the Astros by a half game for the
best record second best work in the American League, are
leading the Angels four to two. Let's go Angels. Come
on now, the fourth, top of the fourth, there is
one out and they've got a runner at first base. Yeah,
(02:12:51):
let's go Angels. They don't they don't even say that
in Orange County. No, they don't care. Who are the figure?
Who are those best? I met am, I not telling
the truth. Let me give you the five biggest step
brother little brother Syndrome sports franchises. You put them in
order real quick. We Clippers, Angels, hold on, I gotta
(02:13:16):
write this down. Clippers Angels because you want me to order,
you put them in order. Clippers, Okay, Angels, nets O
White Sox. Okay, I'd put Anaheim Ducks. But I don't
even know if they that used to be able to
(02:13:38):
say the a's. Yeah, I can't say the a's anymore.
Who else would be a step child to a second
team in the same city Mets? I mean they've had
their own following. I don't count Mets, Yankees, I don't
count Giants, Jets. Okay, Well, the Rams and the Chargers
are step children in their own city. Yeah, they're not
even kids. No, they've got no father? Oh wow? Fatherless? Yeah,
(02:14:02):
I mean the father the father abandoned them. Uh, who
else would it be? He's got a second family in Chicago? Yeah,
Clippers already mentioned the Clippers. Okay, I think I said
for right. I'm trying to think who else is double?
(02:14:23):
I feel like we're missing somebody. Giants and Jets are
both terrible, but I mean I'm talking about they're both
have huge fan bases. Yeah, it's probably just them. Okay,
so White Sox the last. I think they have the
biggest following of those teams you mentioned. They won their
own championship, right, big been around forever. South Side routinely
roots for them. You know, Angels gotta be the worst,
(02:14:43):
then Clippers, then Nets. I think it's Clippers Angels in
there for sure. Yeah, it used to be the A's too,
although they've drawn eight game in second. Such a little brother.
They're moving out of town. But there's the Sacramento Ask
you this if is this ruining Sacramento shot at building
a stadium and hosting a Major League Baseball team at
(02:15:06):
some point in their life because nobody cares? No, I
don't think so. I don't think it's gonna happen for
him anyways. Yeah, I think so. I don't know if
i'm major League Baseball, I don't think I expand. Yeah,
they're just the rebound side piece. It was never any
long term anyways. So Sacramento is a side piece, yes,
and the rebound got kicked out of the house from
your old lady. How they look Sacramento six. Not a
(02:15:32):
lot of effort getting getting there, right. Oh, they welcome
you with open arms, no judging. You can call any time.
They take what they can get because they got self
esteem problems because they're not in La or San Francisco.
Do you have to cuddle after well, for three years,
(02:15:56):
gotta cuddle twenty twenty eight. It's a lot of cuddling.
That's a lot, not a goun one. That's almost like
leaving a toothbrush there.
Speaker 2 (02:16:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:16:06):
I don't even know what the analogy would be. If
you're waiting until twenty twenty eight, your lady's locked up
in prison. So basically you get to leave a toothbrush
and you get to cuddle, and it's you get to
drop by any time you want to, and then you're
going to leave. And you've already told him you're going
to leave. That's why you're not getting the real love though,
you're not getting the support you need, not showing up
(02:16:29):
to these games. Yeah, so Sacramento is getting as much
out of it as you are. Roger on seven ninety
good afternoon.
Speaker 8 (02:16:40):
Good afternoon man. Yeah, it's a cheekless world out there,
and I'm so sorry for that man. Uh So on
the on the intro the Rockets a chance to try
to quire seven Grant. I think that would follow all
his boat he's coaching philosophy. As with the young kid,
you know, very easier to get manipulated by that. What
(02:17:03):
is that kind of like mess up with Frager chemistry?
You can system of that team if he's a guy
to come in older cat and he's there for you know,
he's there for points and to get them up that
that needed bucket and they need it. But also who's
gonna come up for a month deepense? He's gonna you know,
where they gonna hide them, where they're gonna where they're
gonna you know, it's gonna be kind of hard. He's
(02:17:24):
gonna have to guard a big or maybe try to
chase somebody on the wing. So I don't know how
they're gonna try to fix that. Try to make that work.
Give your thoughts on that.
Speaker 1 (02:17:38):
Thanks, Roger. We're gonna get your phone on IM proofs
that Roger was talking like a muffle or something over it.
We've had issues with him before. Yeah, we gotta get that. Yeah,
as far as covering for Kevin Durant defensively, you would
just hope that that would happen with I mean, I'm
in Thompson and depending on who stays here, whether it
be Dylan Brooks, Sorgia Barsmith Jr. You can still try
(02:17:59):
to play good team defense with Kevin Durant. And the
most wonderful thing is I don't think I may would
let Kevin Durant skate on lack of defense. No, he wouldn't.
But also, energy is finite in a forty eight minute
game for a thirty seven year old, how much energy
(02:18:19):
do you want him expending on that end of the floor.
I mean, would the game plan be you're signing him
for sixty games? Maybe do you want to take twenty
two games off fur in the season. He's not playing
back to backs, so here's your non back to backs.
My guess is Steven Adams would be in that mix.
Mm hmm. That's why you got him. I want to
say a bargain, but you got him probably a below
retail value. You've been holding Tarry Easan out of back
(02:18:41):
to backs. Would you still do that to be determined,
but it would be certainly something to keep an eye
on right Fred van Vliet. I mean it feels like
he turns an ankle once or twice. Fred doesn't want to,
but it might be. I put it this way, I
think you're gonna hire the space some them out a
little bit more, uh huh, and probably if not. I mean,
(02:19:03):
you can't have all all those one guy set out
every single night back to back, but maybe limit minutes,
put minute restrictions on some guys, because look, you're doing
You're not doing this to beat Charlotte in November. You're
doing this to beat Minnesota and Denver and Oklahoma City.
You have the eye, you have the eye on the
prize and that is hard to dethrow on Oklahoma City,
(02:19:24):
who will beat by the way, regardless of whether they
win this thing or not tonight, they would be the
heavy favorites to win next year too. Man rightfully. So Yeah,
and there's the West is ridiculous, That's what I'm saying.
If it were in a vacuum and it's only the
Houston Rockets, I'm down with trusting in the process. When
you open it up and look at the other teams
(02:19:45):
and what's going on, and these jones that you have
to keep up with in the Western Conference. Yeah, that's
when I tip the scales too. You have to do something.
You have to make a splash. If if you're saying
it's championship or bust. If you're saying, okay, you want to,
you know what will end up the two three seed
and we'll be out in the second round. It's all cool,
it's all gravy. That's actually okay. We're at such a
(02:20:06):
such a ring championship or culture or bust culture with
the NBA right now, and I think it does lend
to some toxicity and it slants the way that we
view some of the all time grades. Can you space
out four guys not playing eighty two? It's a lot
(02:20:27):
of work, it's a lot of sports medicine. And that's
where does that affect you in your seeding? I mean,
we know how tight it now. They they were able
to rest guys last three games, But that I think
is going to be the exception rather than the rule
with it when it comes to the West. You had
guys going from like three seed to seven seed on
a daily basis down the stretch in the West this year.
But do you think we could give that again next year? Absolutely.
(02:20:47):
It does feel like this top eight are going to
be right there. Yeah, it ain't going away. We've been
wondering when the West is going to get weak for
like the last twenty five years. One it'll start to
be a doubt fully the title turn of the Eastern
It's twenty eight Sports Talk seven nintie It is the

two five seven ninety We had lots of nice folks
that want to get into the sports of the day,
including the Astros double digit offensive performance. Kevin Durant conversation
never seems to die down until he does, and he
has eventually moved. I still think it's gonna happen before
the draft, although maybe Phoenix sits and waits. I wouldn't
(02:21:29):
want to do that if I was Phoenix, especially because
I need to figure out what I want to do
for my draft. Let's talk to uh sal on seven
ninety sal good morning or good afternoon?
Speaker 10 (02:21:38):
Hey, Hey, good have to do Matt he Rosshi, Hey, Matt,
I have an honest question.
Speaker 2 (02:21:44):
What do you what are you?
Speaker 10 (02:21:45):
What is your honest opinion about the two soccer tournaments
happening right now in the United States.
Speaker 1 (02:21:50):
I'm embarrassed for Team USA. Am I wrong?
Speaker 9 (02:21:55):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (02:21:56):
Uh? Yeah, I mean I am wrong, I do, But.
Speaker 4 (02:22:03):
Go ahead.
Speaker 10 (02:22:04):
Yeah, I'm saying they won five zero. But what about
Mexico though they're struggling too.
Speaker 6 (02:22:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:22:09):
No, I think if they go away from their three
four to two to more of a three, that doesn't
add up. But eleven on each sign three four three
four three three four. Yeah, you take the keeper out,
you added up to ten. Okay, if they go more
with a seven to one, one put a lot of pressure. Still,
(02:22:32):
that's only nine. I got one guy hanging out.
Speaker 10 (02:22:37):
Hey, hey, Ross, So do you think is going to
be in the in the Gold Cup final in Houston?
Speaker 1 (02:22:41):
Uh? The Gold Cup? It will be Charat and Charain
and Charay. Sunshine and Desiree will be in the Gold
Cup final. I get you. I see what you're saying now,
and I like and I like Sunshine for the way,
Can you explain to me how come Japan and South
Korea in the CONCACAFT Gold Cup.
Speaker 8 (02:22:59):
No, yeah, no, I don't know how.
Speaker 1 (02:23:02):
It's very confusing. Yeah, thank you, I'm sorry. I don't
I just don't follow it US Versus Saudi Arabia today
at eight fifteen, Matt, tonight, you have paut of the
back for you know, trying. Thank you very much. I
appreciate that I'm bluffing us.
Speaker 3 (02:23:20):
Yeah, first, when you started saying informations.
Speaker 1 (02:23:21):
Oh, so where's the where's the US versus Saudi Arabia
watch party? Wherever you want to go? There's soccer bars.
What channel is it on tonight?
Speaker 2 (02:23:32):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (02:23:32):
It's in Austin. Oh, it's in Austin. We can probably
drive there and get there and town the tickets available.
Not Austin, not a thriving sports mark, I guess not.
You think old Sports Radio thirteen hundred's giving it a
rundown the night. Probably hopefully they're giving away some tickets
at least what we can maybe call gar Buddy Craig Way,
I'm seeing get some ticcks. Uh, it's on Fox Sports one.
(02:23:55):
I get that channel. We're good, you'll come to the house,
we'll watch it together. I am not driving up there.
All right, Let's go to Lewis and Sugarland at one
thirty seven Lewis, Good afternoon.
Speaker 4 (02:24:06):
Matt and Ross.
Speaker 1 (02:24:06):
How y'all doing We're wonderful. I appreciate you asking us.
Speaker 4 (02:24:10):
Look, I want to Bence.
Speaker 12 (02:24:12):
You know, the only people that I believe when I
hear Rocket rumors are Matt Ross and maybe Shams.
Speaker 1 (02:24:19):
Maybe it's maybe not even definitively Shams. That's exactly right,
Thank you very much, Lout.
Speaker 4 (02:24:25):
Yeah, Shams comes in a very behind third if at all.
Speaker 1 (02:24:29):
Anyway.
Speaker 4 (02:24:30):
Yes, you know you're reading all this.
Speaker 12 (02:24:32):
Stuff about Durant blah blah blah blah blah, and you
read stuff like how san Antonio doesn't have to give
up Castle doesn't have to give.
Speaker 4 (02:24:42):
Up the number two pick.
Speaker 12 (02:24:44):
You know they're talking about, you know, the fourteenth pick,
blah blah blah.
Speaker 4 (02:24:48):
And I'm reading names about the Rockets given some.
Speaker 1 (02:24:52):
People up that.
Speaker 4 (02:24:54):
Let me ask you a question.
Speaker 12 (02:24:56):
What's your feeling on the some the rumors about Cam Johnson.
Speaker 4 (02:25:02):
Are you hearing anything about that at all?
Speaker 1 (02:25:04):
Not per se? I mean, I know Cam was talked
about the trade deadline, but I'm not hurt any earlier
things since then. No, But oh, I think do I
think Brooklyn's in a potential spot to be a team
that could be involving a trade, involving a third team
in a mix around. Yeah. I mean a matter of fact,
there was a report that last week had Phoenix, Minnesota,
(02:25:27):
and Brooklyn put together three team trade, and I think
Durant put the kibosh on that.
Speaker 4 (02:25:35):
Wow. Well, you know, it's been a long time, you know,
and you've been with Rockets.
Speaker 12 (02:25:41):
Basketball a lot. It's been a long time since we've
had a guy of name, you know, wanting to come here.
You know, I don't think we've had that since maybe
Charles Barkley. But I just I can't see, you know,
giving up the ranch to get this guy. And I
went to ut and I'm a big Durant guy, but
(02:26:02):
the dude's thirty seven, and I just would hate to
see us give up one or two starters and a
bench person.
Speaker 4 (02:26:09):
So I just thought i'd get you all thoughts and
keep up the good work up.
Speaker 1 (02:26:13):
Thank you, Lewis, Thank you Lewis. Dwight Howard wanted to
be here, yeah, Westbrook wanted to be here. Chris Paul,
Chris Paul, Yeah, go ahead. Chris Paul definitely wanted to
be here for a year and then things got curly
after that. That's a different issue for a different time.
This hamshiing got hurt and they rocket should have won
the twenty eighteen championship against one of the great You know,
(02:26:34):
I'm gonna say two greatest team of all time twenty
eighteen Warriors, Durant Curry, Clay Draymond. They beat the eighty
six Celtics. Yes, you just saying that? Could you want
to argue with me or argue? I just said, I Mom,
We've not going to backtrack five seconds later. I think
it'd be easy if he did ninety eight Bulls. Oh
(02:26:58):
oh wait, no, I'm sorry ninety When did they win?
Said that? Ninety seven? Ninety seven? I think, but ninety
and then bake the same team six? When did they go?
Speaker 2 (02:27:06):
Seven?
Speaker 1 (02:27:10):
Late nineties Bulls versus that Golden State teen ninety six
Bulls were seventy and ten pretty good. I think late
late nineties Bulls beats that Golden State teams. I'm going
with K D.
Speaker 4 (02:27:23):
CLA.
Speaker 1 (02:27:24):
It'll go with the three greatest shooters of all time arguably.
Speaker 2 (02:27:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:27:26):
But I got the number one player them all time,
and I got the greatest batman Robin of all time.
And I got a good squad, I got defenders, I've
got a great point guard. Different games got a better bench,
do you.
Speaker 2 (02:27:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (02:27:39):
Who's on the bench? Uh, Will Purdue? Yeah, Joe Wennington,
