Speaker 1 (00:02):
Lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Ten two in Htown.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
Good morning, everyone, and welcome to a Wednesday edition of
The Matt Thomas Show with Ross on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Hope you guys are in a spectacular mood. Hope you
are ready for a busy kount of sports in the
community because the Rockets and Clippers are in town for
the first of two with the clips, we have a

(00:28):
busy show for you today.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
We have some new news on.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
What the Astrodome Conservatory group wants to do with the Astrodome.
We will discuss that it literally has just come down
in the last couple of minutes, so I don't want
to necessarily get into it right now until I have
a chance to read what exactly is being discussed, but
at least the early blemishes and again we'll get more
into it later on. The show is bars, restaurants, parking spots,

(00:53):
but keeping the dome as is because it is the Astrodome.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Been destroyed twenty five years ago. Tear it down. I
am a Houstonian.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Ninety percent of my life, I've lived in Houston, Texas
ross the year at a hundred right, No, I lived
in Austin. Okay, so you're ninety eight percent. Tear it down,
get rid of it. It's ridiculous. But you know what,
we will hold.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
The rest of the conversation about that until we have
a chance to read exactly what it is. Yes, because
I want to be a judgment. Yeah, I don't want.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
I don't want to, you know, say something that's just
ridiculous that we don't know the rules are.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
So well, we'll read that. Literally.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
The press conference is going on right now as we speak,
so we'll have a chance to digest some of that,
and there'll be a press conference by the rats, I
believe at eleven o'clock.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
The response I think the rats are like, wait a minute,
this is our home. Can't take us out of our home.
This is that mass deportation I've been hearing about. Yeah,
is this Trump's fault? Biden was running things we didn't
have to worry about leaving. Oh my god. All right,
we've got a very busy show for you today. Besides

(01:58):
the astrodome stuff, we have shut your ball mass up
at eleven thirty today. That's always our favorite half hour
of the week. I got one, do you really? Yes,
it's from this morning and actually from something gonna happened
last week. Okay, I'll leave it at that. I'm just
gonna tell you this. Mine goes without saying and I
say this every single time. I left the house at

(02:18):
e twenty this morning and I got here at nine
forty two. I love Kingwood. I love when I get there,
get into my house and relax. I love the fact
that things are cheaper out there. The gas is the
cheapest in Houston Kingwood. I'm just gonna tell you that
flat out it is. I have a lot of house
for a little bit of money, very nice neighbors, got

(02:39):
plenty of restaurants to go eat.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
But my drive sucks. And you're like, Matt, we do
it every damn day.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
Guess what. I'm in your fraternity. We are in a
brotherhood of suck. You driving took me an hour. Let
me tell you what it did today, really quick. Sixty
nine fifty nine to equipment. Okay, got off on the
side street. Oh wow, you were taking ways, weren't way?

Speaker 2 (03:04):
You know ways? Love that equipment.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Okay, stay so stay with me on this a normal
non traffic y day, which I would used to do
when I was we were working at noon. Was fifty
nine to six ten to the station two freeways. Okay, No,
sometimes traffic was bad.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
I mean, it is what it is.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
But I could still leave a house comfortably at about
ten ten and get here by eleven o'clock.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (03:31):
Today, fifty nine to Quipman Feeter Road for two miles,
then turned right. Was on the feeder road of I
ten for about a mile. Yes, jumped on I ten.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
Got to the far left lane to go to forty
five south to Galveston. Yes, was on forty five from
Smidge got off at Allen Parkway.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Wow, Alan Parkway.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
You got on the running trail, got on the side
on the running trail on Alan parkwayd you take a
canoe in the buffalo by you?

Speaker 2 (04:10):
You're gonna make me cry. I'm sorry.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
You're paddling to work Alan Alan Parkway to another side
street that I want to say.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
It's a. It's a. I can't take the name of it.
At this point. It's off of Allen Parkway.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
I turn right.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
It's almost like it's pasted bond. It's the one passed it.
I can't. It's a five letter word.

Speaker 4 (04:35):
I can't.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
I can't think of it right now, No five four five? Uh,
not Elgin whatever it is? Okay, turned right at that street.
Then a very quick U turn on that street. Stop
to go to Memorial Drive West.

Speaker 5 (04:52):
Uh huh.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
Memorial Drive West splits into Woodway to the left, which
I did wood Way to the feet of road of
six ' ten and then took the feeder road. You
turned back at Post Oak and got here. Wow, welcome home, Matt.
This is you, you folks. Hear the trials and tribulations
he's going through to bring you four hours of radio greatness.

Speaker 6 (05:13):
Hey Matt, yes, sir, I know you live a little
bit farther north than me, but I've done that every day,
that exact same route.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Really, what's that?

Speaker 3 (05:22):
What's the name of that street that I turned right
on off of Allen Parkway. I can't think of it either,
but it's bothering me in road anyway. It's yeah, you turn,
yeah you have. I mean seriously, and by the way,
ways give us a little more heads up, bro, I
mean far left off of forty five to get off
an Allen Parkway. I mean it gave me like fifteen seconds.

(05:42):
And I don't know if you notice there's still rush
hour traffic at eat forty five.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
In the morning. You gotta switch four lanes and yeah,
and like one hundred yards. Oh, what is the name?
It is bothering me? Not Elgin, It's it doesn't matter, man,
we'll find it in them. Okay, what's your map out in
the break?

Speaker 3 (05:58):
So instead of being happy, go lucky and positive and
thinking about great things in life, I come in in
here pissed.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Oh and I hate listening to sports radio in the morning. Uh,
don't do that. See, that's what's frustrating.

Speaker 7 (06:11):
You.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
Put on some easy listening. Put on your yacht rock. Well,
that yacht rock documentary is coming out very you're made
up genre yacht rock. It's gonna be a huge documentary.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
It's gonna it's going to be one of the most
amazing documentaries in the history of the world.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
I can't wait for that to come out. It's coming
out next weeks. I want to say, waw waw, that's it.
W A U A g u a h that's it.
Wall good call, Yeah, wah. Drive's a classic. But I'm
you're barely on Wall. And then if I'm a world
drive West, you gotta flip it fast, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
Lay it down and flip it fast, Mattie. Let's okay.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
So again, I know nine to nine percent of you
do the same thing every day. I'm not looking for sympathy.
I'm just telling you this is my plight and it sucks.
But I love you guys, and it's worth it. And
at some point I will be financially available to get
a high rise apartment in this city and live there
and not to worry about any of this crap. Yeah,
right now, at this point, I'm not in that. In that,
in that particular situation, you almost got them all out

(07:07):
of the house. Is Carly a senior? She's a junior?
Ooh you one more year?

Speaker 2 (07:12):
And are you pushing her to graduate early?

Speaker 3 (07:16):
It's funny on Curby Enthusiasm, there was a he kept
the calendar of getting rid of his girlfriend. Yeah, and
he was striking through. I have the same calendar in
my office.

Speaker 8 (07:24):
Dad.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
What is this? Oh honey, nothing, It's it's just counting
down the day you see your next birthday.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
Oh you're gonna miss her? Oh I'm going to miss her. Yeah,
there's yeah, it's gonna be rough. I mean I miss
all my kids. I mean, my my middle is at
A and m about to graduate in the mid in May.
So I mean I miss him. So it's good, you
know now I feel calm. Now, it's just good. Took
me till about ten or nine, and I don't want
to stand him giving you any credit for that. It
was cathartic. I walked you through that. That's actually true.

(07:50):
You did, but you couldn't come up with wah. I
did come up with wah. No it once I looked
on the map.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
You okay.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
Yeah, so you know we had to just start doing
live like you your drive is fifteen minutes. Yeah, I
should just start getting I put my phone on live video,
like to an Instagram live during the whole thing.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
You should not do that.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Here's what I do. Somebody.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
You're gonna be liable. I swear, Oh, I see, I
can see that. I hate listen. Do you what do
you sing at the top of your lungs?

Speaker 8 (08:21):
No?

Speaker 3 (08:22):
I text a lot, not don't Matt. Siri text for me, okay,
I have I have the Apple. Carla Seiri and I
are are very close. I always go Syrian and she
goes hmm hmm, yeah, yeah that she does that for everyone.

Speaker 4 (08:36):
Matt.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
I know there's really millions of people.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
Yeah, I've I've had to learn that kind Okay, So
all right, that's what we got going on. We've got
Rockets and Clippers tonight at seven o'clock right here on
these air waves of Sports Talk seven, and we'll talk
to emy Don't at one o'clock about such events.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
Wonderful, give yourself a five to five, didn't you?

Speaker 4 (08:52):
No?

Speaker 3 (08:54):
You know to Rockets launch pad is already in eighty
percent done. That's not true. You know what a thirty
minute program mata? Are we going to talk to him
for twenty five minutes? We'll go thirteen and you get
to ask three questions. It will sound organic to you.
And I'm busy you're not got as some questions? Yes, okay,
we got Wildie Fritz at one thirty this afternoon.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Oh wonderful.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
Shut your bumb ass up, and again we will get
some further details on this Astrodome Conservancy group. Do you
know there's something there's an executive director of this who
pays for that? Do the taxpayers pay for a conservative
is what I'm saying. It should have been dismantled decades
ago and we wouldn't have to be paying these commissions
and these people in these grifters to come up with
a plan.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
What's your plan? Restaurants in a parking lot? Cool? Terrible?

Speaker 3 (09:41):
By the way, one other thing about this, for we
get to the other headlines a day and we have
not talked about this. And Wexler brought this up on
the A team yesterday. You know, the Harris County Sports
Authority has gone on over a massive overhaul. They got
rid of their executive director, they got rid of their
chief operating officer, I mean the two top people at
the Harris County Sports Authority they got rid of. I

(10:04):
think John Wentmeyer did that action. Actually, you know why
in part they did that. Why it's because they're gonna
have to bring some people in here. They're gonna start
talking about stadiums again. Think about it. This is this
is just a straight bitsteal from wex Okay minute Made
Park two thousand, Yes, Energy Stadium two thousand and two

(10:26):
mm hmm, Tota Center what two thousand and five ish,
somewhere in that range. Pretty much a couple of years
after that three something like that. These sports venues sports
RV in general, not everywhere, but in general usually have
to get either a massive overhaul or destroyed after about

(10:48):
twenty years October sixth, two thousand and three. Okay, so
that's yeah, we're talking to We're talking twenty plus years
on all three of those frame on those facilities. And
my gay, this is John went Myer's like, I'm getting
ready to have to have some difficult conversations with the
sports owners these based of these professional teams. So yeah,

(11:09):
that to balance and the Asterdom conservancy we're going to
be doing. And you never got to live through this
because you were in the business. I got a lot
of dome talk, but do you build it to keep
the team here talk?

Speaker 2 (11:22):
Yeah, you never got any of that. I never got that,
and I don't think we'll ever be in that situation.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
But there's going to be some interesting conversations about what
to do with the current facilities, whether you renovate them,
whether you destroy them. Look at case in point, I'll
give you this, and we got attle break here. Atlanta,
Georgia Dome twenty twenty five years old, got rid of it.
Turner Field where the Braves played twenty twenty five years
got rid of it. They took the Braves of the
suburbs and made a new community out of it, and

(11:49):
I'm sure there are other Soldier Field completely renovated about
twenty years ago. Bears thinking about going to suburban Chicago.
So I want to welcome you to the next phase
of your sports talk career.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
Sports r V. Thank you. That's gonna be restaurant and
hotel taxes, bonds, rental cars bonds, tax at rates, hikes
to pay for sports facilities.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
Hell to San Antonio, the Frost Bake Center where the
Spurs play, which is just outside of San Antonio. Meely
Santonio proper, But it's not a se at and t center.
It's just a sponsor and no sponsor. They want to
go back, they want to go back to downtown. Oh boy,
now that they got Wimby, Welcome to Sports Radio twenty
twenty four. Okay, all right, up next, the Texans had

(12:37):
another meeting ross.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
Another team only meeting.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
When are we gonna stop meeting or players only meeting?
I should say, and I'm.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
Going to tell you something.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
Of all weeks not to have a meeting, this would
have been the one not to have it. You don't
have meetings before taking on the Cowboys ten to fourteen
on Sports Talk seven ninety seven, one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven ninety more.

Speaker 9 (13:03):
Matt Thomas now on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (13:08):
We are giving away a pair of tickets to Justin
Timberlake is part of Believe It or Not Today at
one fifty Major Star, absolutely slightly fading Star. You think
so slightly. I mean we got tickets on the Matt
tom of the show.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
It's got to be slightly, all right, So I where
he's at Toyota Center or Toda Center and Connor will
give you more details than that, but we want to
take care of those that listen to the show and
this don't come on.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
Turn the radio on at two fifty to play the game.
We're trying to weed out the prize horse. Yeah, so
we're gonna give the password out three.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
Times today and I just thought of the I thought
of it doing one.

Speaker 3 (13:51):
Okay, of what you want to use for today, okay, ten, twenty, eleven,
twenty and twelve twenty.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
Right, we're gonna get out the pass each of the three.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
So if you don't, if they don't hear it, they're
not gonna play Connor. Today's passphrase D in a box.
So when Connor I work with a twelve year old, folks.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
I hope you know that.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
So when when conn when Connor asked you what the
pass phrase is to let you to let you get
into the contest, you're getting more immature as we do
the show. I feel like it's actually remarkable to see.
I didn't think it was possible. Okay, so what you're
gonna do. You're gonna call for believe it or not,

(14:39):
at one fifty we're giving away the tickets to justin Timberland.
You have, but you have to play the game to
win it. You have to play the game, and Connor's
going to ask you for the password, otherwise he will
not let you in, so you give him the password
Matt D in a box. So give the password D
in the box to Connor McGovern and we will let.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
You on to be a contestant. That's right.

Speaker 3 (15:02):
If you don't know the password, we will not let
you be a contestant for the justin Timberlake ticket. So
if you can't call one fifty, have one of your
friends calling, give him the pass, give the password. Yeah,
we can peek a password, pass and the password again,
Matt is D in the box A fantastic snl skit.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Yes, it was. It's an old timer. Yeah, so don't
crush me for it. Yeah, but there's like a thousand
different things. We can't way more tickets tomorrow, so we
could say inc today is today, but out of the
gates the first day we're rolling with d in the box.

Speaker 3 (15:38):
Yes we are, okay, seven one three two one two
five seven OUTI Charlie on The Matt Thomas Show with
Ross Charlie.

Speaker 10 (15:44):
Good morning, Hey Matt, first time caller.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
Nice to hear from him.

Speaker 10 (15:51):
I have a lot in common with you. Actually ran
into you once at Costco on Townsend. Oh yeah, said hello,
just because I recognized your voice. Anyway, I'm calling because
I was screaming at the radio earlier. I was yelling wah.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
Wow, good for you. I mean point yeah, go ahead.

Speaker 3 (16:15):
And I was just gonna say I think Wall is
one of the most unrecognizable streets in Houston. I'll give
you any one for you forness plate it's in bel Air.
It's like two blocks.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
Oh yeah, I know forness. I don't know.

Speaker 3 (16:28):
I feel like Wall is kind of major on Wall,
go ahead, Uh, what do you mean? Name play name
jacket boxes. There's a jacket box on wall Sunny's Convenience store. Charla,
there's nothing on Foreness plate either. I can tell you
that right now, continue on, sir, Hey, Matt.

Speaker 10 (16:43):
I lived in Kingwood since two thousand and five, and
I used to drive. I work in television and sports, television,
news and sports. But I used to drive to the
gallerya area from Kingwood.

Speaker 7 (16:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (16:55):
Two.

Speaker 10 (16:56):
But now my kids, well they go to Saint Thomas
h great and camera did, yes, and I hear Connor did.
But Connor with the Saint Martha's as well, so did
my kids. But anyway, I now live in the Rice
Military area and my wife, my wife teaches at St.
Thomas and she taught cameraon.

Speaker 3 (17:15):
Oh nice, what a great story. By the way, I'm
very jealous you live in Rice Military. I'm just going
to tell you that right now. I'm very very envious
of you. Congratulations on building a successful career in media
and your wife working and your kids being raised right,
they've got a good father and a good parents.

Speaker 10 (17:31):
Well you probably know who she is.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
I think I think I figured it out.

Speaker 8 (17:35):
Yeah, Connor will tell you all right.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
Thank you, Charlie, We'll see you later. I'd like to
hear from you. All right, how about that? Oh it's oh,
it's it's okay. I'm getting clarification. It's D in a box,
not D in the box either way, either way, Conn.
I think you'll be able to figure that out, right,
I mean we're good, okay, Yeah, you'll go Alex Trebek

(17:57):
on this. We will accept that answer. Yeah out semantics there. Jeez,
that's not coming from me as some somebody else. No,
the password came from you. Oh I blame anybody else.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
That's true. All right, real quick, Texas another meeting? Why ross?
Why not?

Speaker 3 (18:13):
Here's what you have to do, and this is a
smart sports take you will hear from.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
No one else except this show.

Speaker 3 (18:20):
Okay, when you play the Dallas Cowboys and you get
your ass kicked week after week, let the Cowboys have
and you're gonna send Cooper Rush out there to quarterback.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
Yes, you know what you do in this particular case.
What you don't speak to each other this week?

Speaker 3 (18:35):
Why not you have the anti meeting, You go out
to practice, you fist bump, you high five, you say hello,
but you do not talk about what's wrong with you.
Because it's going to prove that the team meetings don't
mean Jack squat. No, it's gonna prove that team meetings
work once they beat the Cowboys because the first team

(18:56):
meeting worked. They cover the spread. Everybody thought that.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no no, don't don't even
put that in people's minds. That's ridiculous. The first one work.
Everyone thought they were gonna get crushed.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
Some people predicted them to lose by double digits, right,
and they lost by a last second field goal. I
guarantee you they're not in the team meeting going hey
everybody and just won't let y'all know.

Speaker 2 (19:15):
I know it hurts, but at least we covered.

Speaker 3 (19:17):
No one is saying that, but yeah, But that's what
I'm saying, though, is that the meeting brought them to
those new heights. Without that player's only meeting, they would
have lost by twenty one. But since they had the
players only meeting, it brought them that close to the Lions.
And now this new player's only meeting is gonna have
them crushing the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
Don't speak to.

Speaker 3 (19:39):
Each other during the week, you're gonna beat the Cowboys.
It'll prove that the team meetings don't matter. And apparently
there may be me another one stop meeting. Just go
you know what, you know what, you should go meet
with Nick Cassira. Why don't you go to Nick Asia
and say, hey, Nick, you keep throwing Titus Howard out
there and we could have gone a better offensive guard
at the trade deadline. Then you know why no one

(20:00):
wants me with niked because you have to go in
there here to listen to forty minutes award salad. Yeah, well, well,
Titus wasn't never going to be a place replaced should
have been.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
You're not gonna be resigned? What's the deal? Probably not?
I don't know. Does he have a new contract? Didn't
he get old last year? Please tell me he doesn't
last year. He's just a guy. Titus Howard's not that bad.
He's just a guy. Fine.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
I would say he's above slightly above average. He's like
a he's like a C plus student in my opinion.
Oh god, I don't want to look at this. Here
it goes what oh, three year extension in July of
twenty three, so twelve so last year. So he has
one more year left in his contract?

Speaker 2 (20:40):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (20:41):
Oh, only one point eight of his twenty twenty five
salaries guaranteed however, okay, So you have him as a
pre June first cut or a post un June high
is a cut, whatever it takes, because the guy's just average.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
Now you have you have to replace him with somebody better.
So if there's nobody better.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
Than you, I'm saying that you're okay with Titus Howard.
Is he going to be a first team All Pro?

Speaker 11 (21:01):
No?

Speaker 2 (21:03):
But he he's not the problem to me, all right?

Speaker 3 (21:08):
Ten twenty eight Sports Talk seven ninty seven one three
two one two five seven nine zero Dimico did speak.
We'll run through some of those cuts throughout the course
of the day. We got shut your ball mass up

Speaker 2 (21:28):
Today? Let's do it. You want to do it? Okay,
justin Timberlake, Believe or not?

Speaker 3 (21:31):
Four pairags of justin Timberlake tickets seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven ninety We want to mention that two
Creeks Crossing Resort is a really cool place to uh
get away from a horrific traffic. Yeah, go up to
Livingston Young go fight traffic there. Maybe busy on the
weekends and people going in and out of the lake,
but generally speaking, nothing compared.

Speaker 2 (21:52):
To what we have to go through in Houston, Texas.
I can do that for sure.

Speaker 3 (21:54):
Get up the Two Creeks Crossing Resort. Rent yourself a cabin,
rent yourself a yert. You're saying, what is the hearth
Go I've been inside these things. They're absolutely amazing, very comfortable,
very spacious, puts a whole family in. They have these
glamping tents to which are really cool. But I'm telling
you right now, you get with a waterfront cabin with

(22:16):
a hot tub and the family, and you and the
wife are gonna have a great experience. Major discounts available
right now by going to Two Creekscrossingresort dot com.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
Get up there.

Speaker 3 (22:25):
If you have an RV and looking for a place
to store it and place it, you can get that
there too. With all the modern amenities like a pickleball court.
There's a huge swimming pool, hot tub, there's a bar
that's opening the weekends. There's a laundry facilities, there's a
workout area. It's high speed Wi Fi throughout the property.
It's fantastic. Two two creeks, two Creekscrossingresort dot com. All right, now,

(22:51):
I'm pissed. I was in a good mood after Ross
taught me off the ledge. If they're driving, I'm reading
this chronicle story about the Astrodome conservitce scene what they're
gonna do. All right, I'm gonna just read this a
little bit here and there, and you can interrupt me
whenever you want to, because I don't not going to
read this thing for batim Um.

Speaker 2 (23:12):
Oh my god, do you want some reading music?

Speaker 7 (23:15):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (23:15):
Sure, Oh let's do something from the sixties though, because
this is a statium that was built in the sixties. Matt,
that's too much to ask on the fly. Okay, well
you said in music, you put something whatever. Today, the
Astrodome Conservancy Conservancy unveiled its ambitious one billion dollar plan,

(23:35):
the Vision Astrodome, with a mission to answer the decades
long question of what to do with the landmark. Something
called Gensler Houston designed from created the redevelopment concept. Okay,
the Conservancy is chairman, Phoebe Tutor. That's what I saw
on TV last night, Like, who is this woman? Phoebe
Tutor Tutor tud R. She established a nonprofit organize. In

(24:00):
twenty sixteen, she issued a one hundred thousand dollars investment grant.
She says the building is structurally sound, has undergone remediation
for asbestos, and is debt free, quoting hurt. It's over engineered,
solid and strong. It's in really good shape and just
needs some TLC. So this architecture firm Gensler, proposes four

(24:27):
hundred and fifty thousand square feet of new revenue generating space.
It conceptualizes four state of the art buildings under the
Astrodome's iconic roof, inspired by the Highline of New York.
A boulevard would cut through the Astrodome to connect existing

(24:47):
buildings within NRG Park. There would be a room for
fifteen hundred additional parking spots and animal handling facilities could
be located under a new ground floor for the rodeo.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
Oh okay, now, if you're cat's and dogs that want
to come hen come on ross.

Speaker 3 (25:02):
It's like what we got a pet motel around the
perimeter the vision is the Astrodome has conceptualized a retail
village for year round restaurants, hospitalities, exhibitions, and shopping.

Speaker 2 (25:17):
An idea has been put.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
Forth to lease out real estate within the Dome's concrete
walls for data storage.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
What okay?

Speaker 3 (25:25):
This conservancy has been aiming to take care of his
two primary tenants, of course, the Texans and Rodeo Houston. Meanwhile,
some dude named Chris Bowman, who's the president and CEO
of the Houston Livestock showing Rodeo, send an email to
the Chronicle on Tuesday saying as follows, the Rodeo has
not had formal conversations with the Astrodome Conservancy in more

(25:48):
than a year. The Rodeo does not support the previously
presented concepts as they conflict with our organizational strategic vision
and operational needs.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
So they're already getting pushed back from the Rodeo.

Speaker 3 (25:58):
I don't know if the Rodeo saw I would think
that if you're the conservacy, you would show this to
them before they would show the media, right, I would
think so, I mean that would make comment sense.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
So the Rodeo is on board with this. No further on.

Speaker 3 (26:10):
We have voice our concerns on several occasions with the Conservancy.
There is no proposed or official plan that our organization
has agreed to are been made aware of regarding the
future of the Astrodome. However, the Rodeo Texans and Harris
County Sports and Convention Corporation have been working on plans
for energy Spark future. Our goal remains to focus on
the functioning buildings, enhancing our experience, and growing our events.

(26:35):
The Harris County Attorney's Office and a representative for the
Houston Texans to climb to comment on Tuesday. You know
why they want to didn't want to comment. They say
this plant sucks. For the love of God, blow the sum.

Speaker 2 (26:48):
Bitch up now.

Speaker 3 (26:50):
Don't plan MUEE anymore. I don't want to hear that anymore.
We're trying to call you down. It's not working's too late,
bad driving, and bad ideas for the Astrodome.

Speaker 2 (26:59):
I got some new for you.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
And as a Houstonian, Rossie and you and I have
spent ninety five percent of our life here. That part
of town sucks. Sucks bad. It's got pawnshops, it's got crack,
it's got prostitutes, or as they say on.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
The movies hers. This part of town sounds great.

Speaker 3 (27:21):
It's got CD motels, it's got PI wannabes. We can't
even get downtown busy all the time.

Speaker 2 (27:33):
Why in the hell.

Speaker 1 (27:33):
Would anyone who want to go over there?

Speaker 2 (27:36):
That area sucks. It's bad, it's not good.

Speaker 3 (27:42):
I'm sorry Stellink and Holly Hall and Merworth. You guys
are lovely people over there. I just don't want to
hang out with you.

Speaker 2 (27:57):
Oh you're thinking. My biggest concern.

Speaker 3 (28:01):
Is the price tag on all this one billion dollars
one billion, And it goes on to say in this
Chronicle article which they got the exclusive to take it
to a demolition would cost one hundred million dollars because
they basically have to take it apart piece by piece.
They can't blow it up because that would because the

(28:23):
the astrodome is in underground, basically part of it is underground,
and to blow it up with like crack foundations and
probably ruin energy stadium or something like that, that would
be Yeah. So they were not engineering majors, but that
would probably make a lot that has to be dismantled.
You basically got a wrecking ball, this bad boy, and
take it apart piece by piece. So that's why, that's
why demolition would cost so much. But do it if

(28:47):
it's going to cost US one hundred million dollars to
get rid of it and turn it into a parking lot,
or it's going to cost US a billion dollars to
turn into for profit shops with an avenue in between
that goes to the stadium where people are even going
there unless it's there's literally a Texans game on Sunday,
or rodeo for two weeks, rodeo for a couple of weeks,
so eight nine times a year, and then a couple

(29:08):
of weeks in February, and maybe Taylor Swift concerts.

Speaker 2 (29:12):
Yeah maybe? But how long have this eras tour has
been going on? For too long?

Speaker 3 (29:16):
Copa America, I guess, but yeah, I'm George Straight. How
many events per year in ourgy?

Speaker 2 (29:21):
Not many? Not as many as you would think any
more farewell tours? Could George Straight? Have geez, George hang
them up.

Speaker 3 (29:29):
It's been lying to us for years, okay, not that
we've been given any information. We're simply reading off of
the press conference. Are literally finished about I don't know
a handful of minutes ago. It was at ten o'clock.
We're getting this chronicle exclusive. Yes, at bare minimum. It

(29:51):
sounds like this Conservancy and the livestock Seowan Rodo are like,
what who are you? We don't want anything, We don't
want any We went out. We've been talking about this
for so long, Matt. Oh, yeah, since the show began.
You know, we had back in the day, we had
an iconic call on the Matt Thomas Show. Yes, with

(30:12):
a suggestion of what to do with the astrodome. Do
we have that audience? We do here it This is
a this is a deep cut of the Matt Thomas
Show what got to be ten years ago at least
at least maybe more.

Speaker 11 (30:25):
Do you want to help me encourage people to drive
their trucks into the astrodome and start tailgating?

Speaker 2 (30:32):
Why so you're telling me compact cars are not invited.

Speaker 11 (30:35):
Say again, compact.

Speaker 2 (30:37):
Vehicles are not invited to go in the in the
in the asterdome. Just just trucks.

Speaker 11 (30:42):
Oh man, you're limiting to a deep to small detail.

Speaker 2 (30:47):
What about four tauruses?

Speaker 8 (30:49):
Oh?

Speaker 11 (30:49):
I don't care. Hey, I'm not worried about the little details.
I just picked the trucks because they can haul the
seats out.

Speaker 2 (30:57):
Could Kevin Someone's helicopter be invited?

Speaker 11 (31:00):
Well, yeah, I didn't make the news.

Speaker 2 (31:04):
Ronald. It's been a pleasure visiting with you.

Speaker 11 (31:07):
But you won't encourage the tailgating.

Speaker 3 (31:10):
What do you want me to do and encourage? And
I'll give you the last five seconds here of this
radio conversation to encourage people to go into a place
that is heavily infested with rats and bugs and asbestos
and tailgat and Sundays.

Speaker 11 (31:21):
Yes, yes, we can barbecue the rats.

Speaker 3 (31:27):
Barbecue the Rats is on the All Time Matt Thomas
Show with Ross bingal.

Speaker 11 (31:30):
Board Barbecue the Rats.

Speaker 3 (31:35):
He wanted people to tailgate inside of the just turn
it into a tailgate lot inside the dome, right, like
you can drive it to the fourth level of the area.
Like sometimes you see trucks inside arenas and they go
like how they get up there?

Speaker 2 (31:46):
Well, I think that's what Martin, Martin want.

Speaker 3 (31:51):
You can tailgate and barbecue the rats. You know, he's
a practical man, Ronald. I appreciate him for that. That
was Marvin. Oh wait, Ronald, Ronald was Ronald? Okay, maybe
the same first people change their names all the time. No,
it's not the same. It's Ronald. Okay, is Ronald still
with us? I'm gonna guess no, may he rest It
was a while ago. That was Kevin someone's helicopter. So
that's a key, that's a clue. So it is probably

(32:12):
around twenty twelve. Wow, I love the fact we still
have audio that old. Most stuff is gone. I'm I'm
here for you. Matt as the official historian of the
Matt Thomas Show. Now with Ross. So apparently our friend
Jones says that Phoebe Tutor is really rich.

Speaker 2 (32:26):
Well, she sounds really rich.

Speaker 3 (32:28):
She started commissioning the donated one hundred thousand dollars. Now,
I know there's a famous Tutor family that has spent
a lot of money at Rice over the years. I
wonder if if it's a really field house, Yeah, Tudor
field house. H Maybe maybe that's her or her fact
you know what, it's his wife. Oh, there he goes,
that's exactly who it is. And Bobby played basketball at
Rice back when Willis Wilson was playing. Let's go back

(32:50):
early eighties. No, wonder, there's she's got this. Yeah, she's
the vice chairwoman of the Houston Archaeological and Historical Commission,
founder and a woman of the Astrodome Conservacy. She needs
to be the vice chairman of the Tear Down the
Dome project. And I don't want to call her FEBEs
because I don't know her that well. Okay, miss Tutor,

(33:13):
we appreciate your trying to keep things alive, but we
got to blow the some bitch up. That's why let's
get some t shirts made. Tear it down. No, blow
the some bitch up.

Speaker 2 (33:24):
No, that's you.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
Can't blow it up. We've talked about this. Tear down,
tear it some bitch down. Yeah, Structurally, it's just not feasible.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
Matthew.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
Okay, does she not know that no one wants to
go over there.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
We ain't gonna break nobody. Ross helped me out.

Speaker 3 (33:43):
Nobody wants to go over that part of town ever,
unless it's a sporting event. I've never been over there.
Unless it's a sporting event. I mean, you can get
you just picking up some crack. There's fourteen churches chickens
on the way there. There's an rbus not too far.
There's a muddy murder on Kirby. There's a ripley row.
Runts break it up, tear it down, tear it down.

(34:14):
Oh my god, you would to think what do you
think Janet and not jenis? What do you think Hannah's
thing about this? She's not thinking about this at all.
She's thinking about which tennis bracelet to buy. Seven one
three two two one two five seven ninety. I'm gonna
ask you all this right now. Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety. How does billion dollars into

(34:35):
building four buildings within the dome's roof sound to you?
Should we try to reinvent or create something in that
part of town?

Speaker 2 (34:44):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (34:47):
Uptown appliants repair, you know, I wish uptown a plant
shapear could fix the astrodome. They can fix appliances, and
they could probably take a big project like that. I
don't know what they can do for that, but I
can tell you what they can do is fix your refrigerator.
They can fix your icemaker, they can fix your wine cooler.
They can fix up anything. When it comes to things

(35:08):
like your grills at the house. If you spend a
lot of money and grown it's all of a sudden
one of the burner's not working or it's not heating upright.
How about that sub zero refrigerator. That's just not cool
the way it should be. That's when you call the
premiere appliance professionals at Uptown Appliance Repair two eight one seven,
five eight nine nine seven eight two eight one seven
five eight nine ninety seven eight. You can also check

(35:28):
out their website at Uptown Appliance Repair dot com. They

Speaker 2 (35:53):
That more. Matt Thomas now.

Speaker 9 (35:57):
On Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (36:04):
Ten fifty two on The Matt Thomas Show with Ross
seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven nine zero. You
want to follow us on Twitter, and I'm thinking about
going to the alternate stuff because a lot of people
are asking me to, but Twitter is still number one
and until it completely implodes.

Speaker 2 (36:26):
I just I'm gonna check it out.

Speaker 3 (36:27):
I just opened up an account on blue sky and
what is your initial take on that? Oh the way,
at sports MT, at sports RV and at Connorty McGovern. Uh,
the things are picking up on threads for me, Matt people.
A lot of people are following at sports RV on
threads and what are you?

Speaker 2 (36:44):
Are you posting on threads a little bit? Okay?

Speaker 4 (36:50):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (36:51):
I did put a pull question up and you're more
than welcome to get into seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seveninety.

Speaker 2 (36:59):
The question is on the poll question. It's at sports Empty,
at sports RV, and at connored Y McGovern and it
is I just lost it here.

Speaker 3 (37:09):
Stay with me oh one billion to renovate Astrodome and
create four h and fifty thousand square feet of revenue
generating space and fifteen hundred new parking spots.

Speaker 2 (37:20):
Quick question is what's your name?

Speaker 1 (37:22):
Tudor?

Speaker 2 (37:22):
Going to play for this?

Speaker 5 (37:23):
Well?

Speaker 3 (37:24):
I mean she's got money, but she's paying for this conservacy.
She created this herself. So far small votes are in
forty seven percent say sounds good, Let's do it fifty
three percent say tear it down. A Sports Talk seven
ninety also put a poll up and leading forty four
percent is leading is tear it down? The other options hotel,

(37:47):
convention center, retail and event space, which is what they're doing,
and renovate hash.

Speaker 2 (37:52):
Slash, leave as is. There's no no, you can't leave
it as is?

Speaker 4 (37:57):
What is it?

Speaker 2 (37:57):
What's its purpose? Just to sit there? Grais ourselves? Yeah,
do it for twenty Well yeah, no, I think it is.
I think you have this majestic view of Energy Stadium
where the national folks come into call games and they
have this small little astrodome. It's crazy to say that,
but it is, and it just sits there, and people say, well,
what do you do with it? No, it just sits there. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (38:20):
I mean I've been teamed to blow it up for
decade plus. So you're telling me it's one hundred million
to tear it down piece by piece?

Speaker 2 (38:30):
Yes? Or a BILLI is that what the kids say that? Billy? Yeah?
Billions billion to put four hundred and fifty thousands square
feet of revenue genera generating Maybe it could be a
variety of things. Yeah, but what if it all fails?
What if nobody goes there.

Speaker 3 (38:46):
Like we said, there's only a handful of events over
there a year. If people aren't going there, answer my question,
because you're you're a city guy, I'm not. If downtown
isn't doing it, why are we going to take that
part of town. Exactly as you meant, bars and restaurants
are closing downtown, so people are you're telling me people
are gonna flock to the to the southeast part of

(39:08):
the town. The only way you could legitimately put that area,
that four hundred and fifty thousand square feet of revenue
generating space is if that area had three hundred events
per year, literally three hundred literally. Now in Philadelphia, they
have a football stadium, they have a baseball stadium, they
have a an arena that has three hundred events per year,

(39:32):
and they have an epicenter with bars and restaurants in
the middle of in the middle of this parking lot.

Speaker 2 (39:36):
That makes sense. It's ridiculous, and I met southwest part
of town. Sorry, all right, but.

Speaker 3 (39:46):
These businesses will fail. They will amally fail. Downtown Downtown
is saying we love you. We have the Toda Center,
we have energy, I mean, we have a Minute May Park,
we have terrific convention business. We can't survive. Very few
restaurants have long term, tenured success in downtown that are

(40:09):
our standalones. The Downtown Chamber of Commerce is saying, bra,
try this, you'll go bankrupt. Biscuit on seven ninety and
ten to fifty six high, Biscuit.

Speaker 12 (40:22):
Cougar mad Cougar Mad, Hi, did you just throw a
section of the city under the boat?

Speaker 13 (40:28):
Yes, I did, my my mister Hein and mighty Kingwood.

Speaker 3 (40:32):
No, no, no, no, everybody. Everybody agrees with me. That
whole part of tennis crowd.

Speaker 13 (40:36):
Mad mad mad Our Meda is booming over there.

Speaker 4 (40:41):
It's a lot of new houses and things coming.

Speaker 2 (40:44):
Up over That's not from there.

Speaker 3 (40:47):
That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about. I'm
talking about ost Holcombe, Holly.

Speaker 14 (40:53):
Hall, Fanning, you know it.

Speaker 2 (41:00):
Ba Biscuit, you know water. Nobody wants to go over
there except Papas barbecue in the areas and an empty
parking lot that used to be the astrodome.

Speaker 4 (41:10):
It is brother Susans hang over there every weekend.

Speaker 2 (41:14):
Well, I mean you gotta go eat.

Speaker 4 (41:17):
No, there's some cars over there too.

Speaker 2 (41:19):
Then biscuits cost too high.

Speaker 4 (41:23):
I get what they're gonna try to say that.

Speaker 15 (41:25):
Of the city that's not a great part of the
There might be.

Speaker 2 (41:29):
I'm just saying, I know I'm not.

Speaker 3 (41:34):
I'm not gonna argue with you, Okay, So I'll rephrase,
that's not the worst part of the city. It's a
bad part of the city. How about is that better?

Speaker 2 (41:43):
All Right? We'll see.

Speaker 4 (41:43):
I'm telling people will call.

Speaker 2 (41:46):
No, they're not.

Speaker 3 (41:46):
They're not going They're not going downtown. They're going uptown.
They're going to the Heights, they're going to Midtown. They
ain't going to downtown. And they sure as hell ain't
going over there. That's why the Dome, that's why we're
never getting a Super Bowl again. Flat out go ask

(42:08):
the people that created that facility twenty five years ago,
what the thought that area was going to be. I mean,
like we we tweet, we tried, we tried it, we
tried to build that area. It's not working. It's I
don't think it's an indictment against that area. Tenant's an
indicatment against we as Houstonians. We don't go into a
city from the suburbs, Jersey Village, Cypress, Katie Kingwood, Clear Lake.

(42:32):
We don't go in three hours before, and we don't
stay three hours after. We go to our sports events,
we go to our concerts.

Speaker 2 (42:39):
And we take right back off, going home, back to Spring,
back to Katie, back to Pariland, back to clear Lake,
back to all of them, all of them Kingwood. Yeah,
because it's just it's just a spread out city. It's
just spread out, and we're just we don't have the vibe.
And I've talked, we talked about this at least once
a month when I go to different cities around the league.
We don't.

Speaker 3 (42:56):
We just don't have the vibe that other cities have.
Doesn't make us a bead city, just makes us differ.

Speaker 2 (43:00):
It's different.

Speaker 3 (43:00):
Yeah, second hour the Matt Thomas Show shuts, you'll bump
ass up in one half hour on seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (43:05):
Yes, and well, I do need.

Speaker 3 (43:07):
To talk to you about the NBA being back and
the Rockets in action against the Clippers tonight, And if
you've been looking to have a little extra something on
the games, have a little fun, which I like to
do myself. I've been playing Pick six from DraftKings and
official partner of the NBA. It is very very simple

(43:27):
to get started with DraftKings Pick six first, you download
the DraftKings Pick six app. Then you select two or
more players and choose if they'll have more or less
of a stat points, rebound, three pointers more. They also
have football on there if you're looking to get some
NFL action as well. And for first time Pick six
players you can get five dollars. You can get fifty
dollars in pick six credits when you play just five dollars.

(43:51):
I've been doing it. Like I said this week, I
got my eye again on over twenty one and a
half for Jalen Green. I feel like he's due to
make some three pointers. I'm looking at that one. So
it's gonna be some fun on the DraftKings Pick six app.
You can do it now if you choose code nine
eight seven. That's code nine eight seven for new customers,
play five dollars, get fifty dollars in pick six credits

(44:12):

Speaker 1 (44:41):
This is the Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 2 (44:44):
Club at O three has sports talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (44:46):
Texans are actually off today. Normally their Tuesdays are their
off days, but because of the Monday night game, they're
taking today off.

Speaker 2 (44:53):
We will have a little bit of.

Speaker 3 (44:57):
What Tamiko Ryan said yesterday and is met available to
coming up in a few minutes, you know, ROSSI And
and to his credit, his glass is still remarkably half full.
Teams lost three out of four. Yes, it would be
a huge lead. Yes, he's always going to be that way.

Speaker 2 (45:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (45:18):
I just don't want any more team meetings. The key
to this week is not speaking to each other during
the week. Players only meetings. Baby, let's go. We need
to have a players We need to have a show
only meeting. Let's still only meeting. Okay, go ahead. I
mean to tell you about this, Oh, you're deep set
in of hatred for University Houston is driving the show.
Zero hatred for the city of Houston is what is

(45:39):
University of oh The University of Houston in those Maybe
just because we're more academically accomplished than what than Texas,
Just because we have a greater fan base worldwide.

Speaker 2 (45:52):
Are you sure this is the delusion to go ahead?
Just bigger fan base, Yes, academics, conger ex mix, yes,
let's see.

Speaker 3 (46:05):
So if the fan base is so big, how come
there's only twenty three thousand at your football games?

Speaker 2 (46:08):
Because we have a lot of family commitments on the weekends.

Speaker 3 (46:11):
Oh okay, and so nobody else has family commitments in
any other fan because a lot of Texas fans don't.

Speaker 2 (46:18):
Have welcome to the family Welcome.

Speaker 3 (46:19):
The stadium only seats forty thousand because we want to
make it more of an intimate atmosphere.

Speaker 2 (46:23):
It's just like making a big fair type atmosphreih.

Speaker 3 (46:26):
And then when it's only forty thousand and then it's
half half empty, then that's really extremely It's a closer group.
Have you guys considered tarping off the top level of
the stadium? This show meeting is not going particularly well. Okay,
I don't have any hatred, Matt. This is your ridiculous
blind homerism. Yeah, I used to always root for the Cougars,

(46:48):
and then I started working for you, and you started
calling them the Harvard of Southeast Texas, and you have
them winning the championship and every sport every year.

Speaker 2 (46:57):
It never happens. Yeah, Well, we're getting closer, that's true.

Speaker 3 (47:00):
I think we're second or third favorite to Vegas to
one of the NCAA Championship. But I get there before
Kelvin Sampson. I mean, he's approaching seventy, is he not?

Speaker 8 (47:08):
You know what?

Speaker 3 (47:09):
I have not checked to see if I can go
to any of the tournament games. The Rockets have precluded
me from doing it.

Speaker 11 (47:12):
Now.

Speaker 3 (47:12):
One time I did go. I remember when I went
to the Final four and I said, I'm rossing going now.

Speaker 2 (47:17):
Was that when they got blown out? Or was that
when they lost in the last second? Oh, they got
blown out by Baylor in the final four Indianapolis.

Speaker 3 (47:23):
I used every flicking fly mile I had. Oh man,
I did get a free room from a buddy that
was there. But I went there and it was by halftime.
It was me and.

Speaker 2 (47:35):
Who's Deshaun Watson's attorney.

Speaker 3 (47:38):
Rusty hardsty Hart and I were drinking beer, which one
we were drinking beers at halftime thinking about how we're
going to get home.

Speaker 2 (47:43):
I'm sorry, Matt, it was a great experience. Kelvin Sampson
sixty to nine years old.

Speaker 3 (47:50):
Yeah, but Kellen's there, and Kellen's just I mean literally,
his son's taking over for the father.

Speaker 2 (47:55):
Has a great history of working in sports.

Speaker 4 (47:58):
Matt.

Speaker 3 (47:58):
Oh God, hell here, you know what, this this team
meeting is overw this show meeting is over with Connor.

Speaker 2 (48:04):
By the way, you're doing a great job.

Speaker 3 (48:05):
Never change, and thank you for your Missouri Tiger's beating
O'clahoma in the very last second of that game.

Speaker 2 (48:10):
On Saturday night, wash.

Speaker 3 (48:11):
O Oklahoma as they're known seven one three two one
two five seven ninety Rockets taking on the hated Los
Angeles Clippers. James Harden back in town tonight, PJ. Tucker
a Clipper, but not here. He's still looking for a
place to play. Everywhere he goes, he's unhappy.

Speaker 2 (48:30):
PJ. Yeah, I don't think that's true. Is he unhappy?

Speaker 3 (48:34):
I think he's just like thirty eight and just going
where whoever will sign him. He's definitely unhappy in Los Angeles,
that's for sure. Let's go to UH Steve and East
Houston on the Matt Thomas Show Ross Steve, good morning.

Speaker 2 (48:44):
Hey, good morning.

Speaker 16 (48:45):
I thought for the astrodome is to tear it like
you guys say, tear it down, and then put at
the edge of the circumference of the of the circle
there a series of three and then step in forty
yards and then plant another concentric circle of trees, and

(49:07):
then the rest of the area would be a lawn.

Speaker 2 (49:12):
A great lawn.

Speaker 16 (49:13):
Houston does not have a great lawn like many of
the other great cities of the world do, and that
would be my thought.

Speaker 2 (49:20):
Just build a lawn, you know, I wait, wait, some greenery.
I'll give you that.

Speaker 16 (49:26):
And then but then the trees and then and then
actually the county could sell spots that a butt, the
that a butt, the uh, the circle there and for tailgating.
And then you could also use the lawn or as
it becomes a whiteboard. It can be whatever you want

(49:48):
it to be. It could you You could have festivals
there at the rodeo and then just anything.

Speaker 2 (49:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (49:54):
All I'm saying is is that I think, at the
end of the day, make it a bunch of parking
spots and plant some trees.

Speaker 2 (50:02):
Yeah, plant some trees.

Speaker 3 (50:04):
Make a little historical markery, build another area for the
animals for the rodeo.

Speaker 2 (50:10):
I feel like that energy arena, energy mark is whatever. Okay,
make some barn dominiums Oh, some people are into barium.
I would sleep in a barn dominium.

Speaker 3 (50:19):
Oh you would now granted to have Wi Fi satellite television,
Oh my god, and room service.

Speaker 2 (50:27):
Jesus, what you were the fanciest of mets. Well, I
mean think about if I get it.

Speaker 3 (50:32):
If you get a barnaminium, the barn dough and you
could you could get all the os T restaurants. You
could get to your uh KFC, you could get to
your Ripley row ruts. You can get to what now,
Ripley you can get that in the breakfast in the morning.
What else is there over there on os There's a
couple of pawn shops going to hand deliver the items

(50:53):
you're looking to purchase or you're drinking the drop off.
What are we gonna do with the Scottish inn? You
leave a Scottish in right where it is.

Speaker 2 (51:01):
Excuse me? Oh, you got one more on your punch
card for a free night.

Speaker 3 (51:05):
No, Remember that time we talked about the PI and
the guy that owned a bunch of them Bussinest's like
staying whenever you want, and.

Speaker 2 (51:11):
I'm like, I'm good. Get you a jacuzzi room, Matt
zi Water's nice. Let me say something.

Speaker 3 (51:18):
If y'all ever see me in a pi alarm, everyone
is that you know, I'm being held against my will.
I'm doing something that's very, very bad. Now I'm gonna
mind my business. Matt's what I'm talking about. Seven three
two five, seven ninety. Let's go to Tracy and Magnolia
on The Matt Thomas Show with Ross Tracy, good.

Speaker 12 (51:34):
Morning, good morning, tell us, how are we doing outstanding?

Speaker 2 (51:38):
Thank you?

Speaker 12 (51:39):
Well, I wanted to weigh in real quick. I don't
think it's a good idea what they proposed, but I'm
all for it is provided it is one privately funded.
Don't come to the county looking for money, don't come
to the city, no hotel tax. If they want to
fund it and take a flyer on it, I say
go for it.

Speaker 3 (52:00):
Well, Tracy, you're a wise man. You know these things
would never come into play without us getting involved with it.
So I don't know.

Speaker 12 (52:06):
Well, that's yeah, that's my point. So that that's why
you know, that's kind of my point. Yeah, just just
burn it down if unless somebody wants to put up
their own money for it, I'm not paying for it.

Speaker 2 (52:16):
Yeah, I would be. It'd be hard pressed.

Speaker 3 (52:18):
Tracy, thank you for the phone call that if he
went to public voting, would have a chance.

Speaker 2 (52:24):
I'm yeah, even if downtown was thriving, do we need
another area of what we're perceiving to be restaurants, real estate, hotels, bars,

(52:46):
a top golf. I mean, because they're saying it's four
hundred and fifty thousand square feet of revenue generating space.
They're not saying what it could be, but that those
are the things we're talking about here. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (52:56):
But as you said and I said, and they need
to realize, the city of Houston is not just going
to flock to that southwest sector of town to go
in to go to a restaurant, to go play top
golf unless you literally live in that area, which I
imagine it's somewhat densely populated. Nobody is coming from all
around town to go there and support those businesses long term.

(53:20):
And you know why that part of the reason is
beyond being spread out, is the communities in which we
just spoke of have created their own entertainment metropolis is
in their own area. For instance, the Woodlands, Yes, you
known't the Woodlands, it's the mallef sustaining you don't. You
have the pavilion, you have the top golfs there, You've
got the big mall.

Speaker 2 (53:38):
You've got.

Speaker 3 (53:38):
I mean, if you read the Woodlands, nice restaurants, beautiful restaurants,
new town homes and what do they call them the East
Coast those little condos or what cotton lofts?

Speaker 2 (53:50):
Flats lofts they have that.

Speaker 3 (53:52):
Now, Yeah, you go out to Stafford, they're doing that, Katie, Katie, Uh,
Cyprus pair Lands getting built up. I mean the only
area town Franklin doesn't do my whole that is where
I live, which is fine, that's fine.

Speaker 2 (54:07):
I can live with. You had that Umble, go to
the go to the bowling lane. I'm good with that.
What's wrong with Umble?

Speaker 3 (54:12):
It's not great? What's wrong it's got it's got a tissue.
I think the people of Umble are nice? Connor, Connor, you,
how many nice are you hanging out with? Are you
cutting the rug and Umble?

Speaker 17 (54:23):
Mmm?

Speaker 2 (54:25):
Like maybe like once a year? Yeah, that's my point?

Speaker 3 (54:28):
What's wrong with Umble? Chuck e cheese over there is
very nice. There's one of those places you get to
bounce with those bounty houses.

Speaker 2 (54:35):
You know what I'm talking about. Urban area Urban Air.

Speaker 3 (54:37):
Okay, that's not like I'm gonna snap a tibia if
Taylor comes to town.

Speaker 2 (54:41):
We're taking it Urban Air Swift No.

Speaker 3 (54:49):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety No.

Speaker 2 (54:54):
Man, I guess Taylor could go if she wanted to.
Bibi a lot of security issues.

Speaker 3 (54:58):
Seven one three two one two five Sevenatti, it's how
you reach the show today. We are with you till
we're here till two o'clock. I'm just competing. Yes, ten
to two, Matthew. It's been that way for a week now, right, Uh,
and then we've got to shut your bum mass up.
At bottom of the hour, we have the rockets and
email Doka. We get the Cougar's taken on the hated
Arizona Waldcats. Hated Cougar's win two.

Speaker 2 (55:19):
Out of three.

Speaker 3 (55:19):
They're going to a bowl game, all right, they got
a meat loafit let's go. Oh it took me a
second to figure that out.

Speaker 2 (55:26):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (55:27):
Eleven fourteen on Sports Talk seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven doti.

Speaker 2 (55:33):
More Matt Thomas.

Speaker 9 (55:35):
Now on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (55:38):
All right, we are playing for a pair of Justin
Timberlake tickets during Believe It or Not today at one fifty,
and you have to have a password to get in
to even compete.

Speaker 3 (55:50):
And the password remix and the password is Dina Box.
The password is what Dina Box.

Speaker 2 (55:57):
Okay, so coming up at one fifty, Yes, we will
be playing for a pair of tickets to see Justin Timberlake.

Speaker 3 (56:02):
That is correct, and you have to have the password
and you have to tell Connor to get in.

Speaker 2 (56:06):
Right. This is to beat out the prize horse and
toward you the regular show. That's exactly right. So listen
at one fifty for Believe It or Not.

Speaker 4 (56:15):
Now.

Speaker 3 (56:15):
We're not gonna do passwords every day because some of
our prizes are just bla.

Speaker 2 (56:19):
But these are good ones. This is a good one.

Speaker 3 (56:20):
So Connor's feeling this edot me Tay Connor has danced
with this song. Connor got grow number one with this song.
I thought he got it with his his smooth talking
and his new specs. Yeah, he looks like a NASA engineer,
I know, seriously, No, it's the compliment.

Speaker 2 (56:40):
Connor we're not We're not ripping you. I'm sorry, you
look like a genius. No, fine, I say, I didn't
say anything. Stop overreacting. Yeah, okay, fine, you fine. You
look like a serial killer.

Speaker 3 (56:53):
All right, Diana Box, it's your password to get in
today at one fifty sports time. Like those are sharp glasses.
I think I'm gonna have to start getting glasses. So
I got to start looking at frames from getting old.

Speaker 2 (57:02):
Oh you are getting on.

Speaker 3 (57:03):
I picked up vision coverage in my enrollment. Jason and
Katie on seven ninety Good morning, Jason.

Speaker 18 (57:09):
Hey, uh, there is one way that that could work,
and this is it. You build a two hundred and
fifty thousand square foot casino. You get with the state
legislature to legalize sports betting within that complex. That will
attract people to that area and that complex to gamble

(57:31):
and sports bet.

Speaker 3 (57:32):
Yep, you're right. Yeah, but you know what, here's the
thing I think. Yeah, that's good stuff. Thank you Jason
for the phone call. Here's reality. You could build a
casino anywhere in town. It'll be fine, exactly is my point.
Why would you spend money converting this old aspesis written
building into a casino when you can build a brand
new taj Mahal like we were at circa matt Yeah,

(57:52):
I mean that had all the modern amenities, it has
everything like you built it. You would build it from
the ground up. First of all, it's probably cheaper to
build from the ground up than to the refashion the astrodome.
So I'm all on board with sports betting in casinos
here in Texas. But the fact of the matter is
it's probably just more cost effective and you can make
a better building long term if you build your own

(58:15):
casino rather than just trying to put lipstick on that
pig that is the Astrodome and make that into a casino.
All right, So Twitter has given me a lot of
mixed reviews on this. Okay, this is the Chadwick says
the Yankee Stadium was torn down because New Yankee Stadium
took a city parkland to build on. The original Yankee
Stadium is replaced by mccomb's park. You want to demolish

(58:38):
a dome for a parking lot in a city that
is already suburban healthscape filled with parking lots. It's obviously
the Chadwick. It wants to keep the dome alive. He
already called you called it a healthscape, a suburban healthscape. Okay,
something that can generate revenue can make money back. Tearing
it down for with forever would be a net loss.

(58:59):
I don't know park lots charging hard mounds of money
would be around. I don't think all these businesses are
going to be profitable. We're gonna be sitting here in
twenty years like man, this.

Speaker 2 (59:06):
These these uh, these.

Speaker 3 (59:08):
Restaurants have turned over like crazy because they're gonna charge
too much rent. It happens, it's already happening downtown with uh,
Like at Post Houston, there's restaurants that are already failing
in there like it's it's it just doesn't seem like.

Speaker 2 (59:21):
It goes on to say it's a plan.

Speaker 3 (59:23):
In frankly, by actually doing something with it, it will result
in a lot better return in investment than a parking
life for the make meer family.

Speaker 2 (59:28):
I don't believe. I simply just don't choose to believe that.

Speaker 3 (59:30):
And this is also my point, I don't want apparently
it's going to be a mix of public funding. If
you're if you are telling me, as a Harris County taxpayer,
we're either going to spend one hundred million dollars blowing
it up, or we want you to spend five hundred
million dollars turning it into restaurants, which I'm not going
to see any of the revenue for.

Speaker 2 (59:49):
Then I'm voting for the tear it down. It's very simple.

Speaker 3 (59:53):
And if it's even more than that of the billion
dollar proposal, I'm certainly out. I'm out if it's a
scent over tearing it down when I'm not going to
reap the benefits of any of this rent, of these
restaurants and all this revenue that they're going to be making,
supposedly where all these people are gonna come from all
the way around town to head the six to ten
on the Southwest corridor at Kirby.

Speaker 2 (01:00:12):
It's not gonna happen. It hasn't.

Speaker 3 (01:00:16):
This NRG Stadium's creation did not revitalize that part of town.
It was just the exact same part of town than
it was when the Astrodome was built.

Speaker 2 (01:00:27):
So there used to be a Luther's over there. I
don't think the Luthers are still there or not.

Speaker 3 (01:00:31):
Oh, Luthors, I don't think there's any more. Remember of
those commercials we used to go to Luthers way back
in the day of the Astrodome. Okay, there was at
Luthers in the Astrodome. No, it was on Uh it
was on uh like Fan and I want to say
or Main Street, one of the it was one one
street over ost maybe mm hmmm. So No, the returning

(01:00:53):
investment will be a parking lot. Everybody complains about parking.
Everybody loves parking spots. Okay, it may I be I
may esthetically pleasing. It may hurt your feelings that the
once great facoda that you went to as a kids
no longer there. Yeah, So I'm saying like, it's it's
about the sentimentality and get over it.

Speaker 2 (01:01:12):
Yeah, I'm sorry. And someone that Polo grounds are gone, Yeah,
they're more of history. King the Kingdome, they're gone. But
King Dome by Yankee Stadium, by what veteran stadium by Yeah,
Three Rivers is gone gone, river Front Stadium gone.

Speaker 3 (01:01:30):
These stadiums have shelf life and we move on. Yeah,
you can move on with our lives, you people. It's
like this horder mentality. We can't hoard giant buildings. The
history of the Asterronom won't go away. The fact that
it was the first Dome stadium won't go away. Just
the iore and the money pit that it is will
go away. The fact is I flung jalapenos to dodge

(01:01:51):
your outfielders during batting cages just practice times. Yeah, they
will never shake those for me, absolutely, And as you
hit your deathbed that will still be true. Yes, it's
that isore building that is a money pit, will not
be there. Pam in the Woodland's on seven ninety five.

Speaker 8 (01:02:03):
Pam, Hi, are you ready for?

Speaker 7 (01:02:06):
What?

Speaker 4 (01:02:07):
Go for?

Speaker 8 (01:02:07):
Pam?

Speaker 1 (01:02:08):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:02:08):
No, here we go, Pam, let's go.

Speaker 15 (01:02:11):
Oh anyway, why not turn it in to a place
for the homeless. Nobody wants them all over everywhere.

Speaker 8 (01:02:19):
Just have them go there.

Speaker 15 (01:02:20):
First. They start in the parking lot with their tents.

Speaker 8 (01:02:23):
That's up where they go.

Speaker 15 (01:02:24):
They have the choice to be charged with loitering and
go to the count jails or go there. Then they
stay in their things. They're the ones that do the work,
I mean not they're the grunt work. They go in
and to be there and to have that as their home.
They get it cleaned up, and there's a million things
you can do with it. You know you could eventually

(01:02:46):
when you know you can have the top shelf up there,
Have a clinic, have people volunteered to help the you
know these people. Have a shrink up there.

Speaker 8 (01:02:54):
Have you know a nice area.

Speaker 5 (01:02:57):
For all this.

Speaker 15 (01:02:58):
The shelters could send their people over to learn how
to work a cafe, have some food in there, have
food banks in there. There's a whole bunch of things
in this town. You don't have to not just the Woodlands.
I'm saying everywhere in the whole Houston outer area, inner
area has enough money just the people if they wanted to,

(01:03:19):
and you made it almost like a telethon to have
the cleanest, safest whatever they think is bad about homeless
people pay for it. They'll donate everything. I see them
pay ungodly amounts of money.

Speaker 8 (01:03:33):
For stupid things. They would pay for that alone. And
as it.

Speaker 3 (01:03:37):
Goes me, get this right, You're going to pay for
shuttle service so the homeless can stay in one area
town and not be in other parts of town.

Speaker 15 (01:03:46):
No shuttle service. They pick them up and they move
them to move them there. They either have the choice
to go to jail or go there. Then you make
it nice for them over there.

Speaker 3 (01:03:56):
That's not gonna work, Okay, I'm gonna have to put
a little moratorium on some things here. We are not
going to spend the next however long this is talking
about what to do with it.

Speaker 2 (01:04:09):
There's two options.

Speaker 3 (01:04:11):
The Astrodome Conservancy puts together a plan that puts it
on the public ballot, the Rodeo decides what they want
to do with it, or we tear it down. I
don't want to create a Malibu Grand Prix. I don't
want the ultimate putt putt. If you want to put
a casino there, that would make sense. But again, if
you're a casino, why do you want to go over

(01:04:33):
there to begin with when you can just buy a
plot of land and call it a day. Yeah, it
needs to be torn down. There is no plan B.
There should not be a plan B. It'd be a
lot easier to build a state of the art hotel
and casino from the ground up rather than trying to
refashion the astronome. Yeah, put a casino, needle call today,

(01:04:56):
let's go. I thinking Galveston Fine Golf, Greyhound Parks sitting
out there. But the casino there, Okay, let's go. I
think Lamark would would scoop that up in the millisecond.
If we're not We're not gonna spend any more time
taking conjecture calls about what to do with it. This
is the astronom Conservacy having a press availability today that

(01:05:18):
the Rodeo is like, with all due.

Speaker 2 (01:05:21):
Respect, shut your ball mass up? What is that coming up? Matt?

Speaker 3 (01:05:25):
It's next on Sports Talk seveninty. You got somebody you
want to get mad at? Yes, tell us about him?
Were her?

Speaker 2 (01:05:32):
You got something, don't you? Yeah? You wrote it down
to I did you didn't even forget it. I'm proud
of you.

Speaker 3 (01:05:38):
Seven one three two one two five seven, eleven twenty
eight did. It's a Matt Thomas show and this is
Sports Talk SEVENINTI.

Speaker 19 (01:05:44):
Here again, here, here, here, here.

Speaker 2 (01:05:54):
Again, tam Ain't nobody got time for you.

Speaker 3 (01:05:58):
Not to call this radio show and tell somebody off.
If you aren't mad about something, well then you're just
not normal. And that's why this half hour's b meant
for you. Seven one three two one two five seven.
And if you want to tell somebody to.

Speaker 2 (01:06:14):
You know, kiss, kick rocks, kick rocks, shut the bumb
ass up. You know where to find us, okay?

Speaker 3 (01:06:26):
Or if things are really busy in your life and
someone at the office is pulling you aside and having
a twelve minute conversation that you don't care about. Wow,
this sounds wildly specifically. It's happening quite a bit these days.
Ain't nobody got time for long conversations? Anybody got time
for our twenty traffic going down Wall? No hate wah,

(01:06:46):
you poor baby hate Wah. I love Wall. Drive to
classic waw sucks fun to say to wah wah?

Speaker 2 (01:06:53):
What is it good for?

Speaker 3 (01:06:55):
Sorry, there's an you tell me to shut my meet.
There's a meaning store in the northeast cos whuah wah
that makes a mean sub sandwich.

Speaker 2 (01:07:04):
Oh my god. I had some for the first time
with Mandatthews when we were in training. Oh yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:07:10):
We were getting wahwah sandwiches like every day wahwalk and cook.
And it's strange because a former partner mine Man's merline
would like, you can't get any good food of convenience store.
I'm like, you can get the tacos, you get those
nasty nachos though you're the nachos. I moved down a
little bit, but I can give me a wua wa
sandwich and be very happy. Seven one three two one
two five seven seven one three two one, two, five seven.

Speaker 2 (01:07:31):
And I ask you, Rossfield Riale, what is the matter
with you? Okay?

Speaker 3 (01:07:35):
So I was driving to the Toyota Center last week
and as you know, Matt, I was taking Memorial and
there is Memorial Park and there are biking and running.

Speaker 17 (01:07:49):
Trail.

Speaker 3 (01:07:50):
Is a delightful trail if you are driving and you
happen to see some people running the well, these two
jokes ares on their bikes and now look if you want,
I had to understand we got to share the road
and all that type of stuff with the bikers. It's
frustrating because they go slow, but it is what it is.
But as I'm going to pass them, and then we.

Speaker 2 (01:08:09):
Come up on a red light, they start swerving in
and out of cars and traffic and start breaking the
rules of the road and don't stay in their space
and nearly get killed multiple times. And oh, by the way,
they're dressed up like in their full Lance Armstrong helmet
and gear like cosplaying his Lance Armstrong and they're not

(01:08:31):
following the rules. And then as I was coming to
work today, there was a runner on the street who
is I'm making a ride at a red light and
the traffic stops and he bolts and takes off and
I nearly hit him, but he's not. He has a
red hand. Red hand means stop, don't be zipping it
out of traffic. I understand we have to share the

(01:08:52):
road with you runners and you bikers, but follow the
rules of the road or you're about to get killed.
Ain't nobody got time for you breaking the rules of
the road out there on your bikes and running.

Speaker 1 (01:09:04):
Hey, nobody get it.

Speaker 6 (01:09:06):
See I was on the sidewalk the other day and
I was running, and I usually when I have my
headphones that I don't do the noise canceling, just in
case people are around. Mary, there's a biker. He doesn't say,
out on your left, and he almost hits me. Yeah,
and scare and scares the crap out of me. So
anybody got time for that? You got to be vocal
say you're on your left if you're zipping by me
and your scooter or your bike or whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:09:25):
Why are the bikers like the most stuck up, pushy
people on the road. How does this happen? You can
get crushed in a moment's notice. Follow the rules, stay alert,
and don't be zipping it out of traffic.

Speaker 3 (01:09:39):
Bikers preach. We've come after the bikers multiple times. Oh yeah,
I think all of us have done this over the
course of the year. Anything else wrong with you, Connor?

Speaker 11 (01:09:52):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (01:09:52):
Yeah, you guys were talking about me more of my glasses,
and I appreciate you guys complimenting me on them.

Speaker 2 (01:09:58):
However, I'm just not a big fan.

Speaker 6 (01:09:59):
I like my contact Unfortunately, over the weekend, I've been
the reason I've been wearing the glasses because I had
an eye infection. It's all cleared up now, I've got
the drops in and everything. Oh and I'm extra cautious
when it comes to my eyes. That's why I'm still
wearing the glasses. But and I know there's worse health
problems out there, but nobody got time for eye infections.

Speaker 2 (01:10:14):
It really just kind of screws everything up for me.
Oh nobody, thank you. What kind of infections have you
do you have time for?

Speaker 10 (01:10:21):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (01:10:22):
I mean me, none of them, but eyes especially, I
don't know. It just kind of freaks me out.

Speaker 3 (01:10:27):
Well, I'm actually gonna leave it right here for now.
I was just upset about my traffic drive today. I'm
really good beyond that. I mean, family is good. Okay,
show's doing well, rockets are doing bad. I'm in a
pretty good spot. I feel like I shouldn't really just
make something up just to make it up. Okay, that's fine,
but driving today sucked.

Speaker 2 (01:10:47):
Anybody get time for wall driving? I have time for
wall driving for sure.

Speaker 3 (01:10:51):
Seven one three two one two five seven Annie Felipe
on The Mat Tommy Show with Ross Felipe, what's.

Speaker 2 (01:10:57):
The matter with you?

Speaker 4 (01:10:58):
Well?

Speaker 8 (01:11:00):
About it all the morning, So I guess I'll go
ahead and stay for everybody.

Speaker 20 (01:11:02):
You know, I was on board with that whole Conservancy
thing like back wait, you know, earlier than the year.
But man, it's just a waste of time. You don't
do whatever I want with it. I don't really care.
I like the casino partment. Man Ain't nobody got time
for you to keep this buildings. Let it go, I
hate to say it. Let it go, man Ain't.

Speaker 3 (01:11:18):
Nobody you don't wanna do. We're gonna let it go.
We're gonna have a huge party, we as the consider
of Houston. We're going to have We're gonna raise some
money for some charities, okay, and we're gonna watch this
project take a couple of years for happen.

Speaker 2 (01:11:30):
And we're gonna tear it down brick by brick.

Speaker 3 (01:11:34):
I feel like I'm talking about Colt McNair here for
a second. Okay, we're building a brick by break. That's true.
And oh, by the way, and this is brought up
by somebody on Twitter minute ago. Nothing gets past without
the blessing of energy in the Texans. That's just a
flat out of the radio, the Rodeo, the Rodeo and
the Texans. If they a on board, it ain't happening
because they will fight that tooth and nail. So this

(01:11:57):
conservancy can do all it wants too about preserving these
old great facilities. If you don't get on board and
you don't make sure the Texans don't make money on this,
and you don't make sure that the Rodeo will make
money on this, nobody's making money on this. It's done.
So it's gonna sit there. This is gonna be another
blip on the radar. This to me again, I'm looking
at my Crystal Ball Ross. Looks like it's gonna be
a whole bunch ado about nothing.

Speaker 2 (01:12:18):
I think you're right. I think you're right.

Speaker 3 (01:12:20):
I thought this was gonna be bigger news than it
was when I read the article. It's just a proposal
by some commission that found it itself. Yeah, and a
rich woman who's got money and got time, you know,
likes the Astrodome. I love the Astrodome me too. I
went to my first sporting event there me too, Well,
I think so I did. Yeahah, I mean I was
there when Mike scott'son the no hitter. I saw the

(01:12:41):
rolling Stones there. I've seen Rodeo there. I mean, I
love it.

Speaker 8 (01:12:44):
But it.

Speaker 2 (01:12:46):
Am I doing to show in twenty ten? This feels
like I'm gonna do a best of Yeah, I think so.
Barbecue the rats Mike in Cyprus? Mike, what's the matter
with you?

Speaker 4 (01:12:57):
You know, I really appreciate all the female callers because
there's not as many that come in. But Pam, Oh
my goodness. I went to the de Texans game the
other night. I can imagine if I mean, there was
already enough of noxious fans for a pretty game to
go to any visiting team. Detroy fans were actually pretty okay.
But you imagine also having to deal with me an

(01:13:19):
hour and a half to get out of the parking lot,
yellow lot. Do you imagine how to deal with a
bunch of homeless people on top of that, just bugging you.
I mean, the rodeo would just be so freaking cool
with a bunch of homeless people out there and drunk cowboys.

Speaker 2 (01:13:32):
I think it would might have a new sport.

Speaker 4 (01:13:35):
But anyway, anybody got time for.

Speaker 2 (01:13:37):
That, Pam, Yeah, Pam, it was.

Speaker 3 (01:13:39):
I understand your heart was in the right place, but
that made absolutely zero sense. By the way, Joan tells
us that old golf Grohund Park's gonna be opening up
a new concert venue in that area, so we haven't
yet another concert, Dame.

Speaker 2 (01:13:51):
I'm sure it's going to be huge. Man, i'd go, okay,
I am not going that way.

Speaker 4 (01:13:56):
No.

Speaker 2 (01:13:58):
Seven on the way to Galveston. I think I see
it on Galveston. That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (01:14:04):
It's close enough so we don't get in trouble, exactly
a far enough way, I should say, mm hmm. Seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven.

Speaker 2 (01:14:15):
Nintie Jimmy and Tomball Jimmy, what's the matter with you, man?

Speaker 21 (01:14:19):
I got two things, one of them pretty much piggyback
with the last. Guy said, you're trying to take your
kids to the rodeo, walk around the carnival.

Speaker 11 (01:14:26):
Ain't nobody got I was already.

Speaker 21 (01:14:27):
Sketchy enough around there. Imagine it's another million home with
people all you know, you go get in a carnival
ride and there's some dude in the corner.

Speaker 17 (01:14:35):
No.

Speaker 21 (01:14:36):
And secondly, ain't nobody got time for the Astrodome? I mean, seriously,
nothing was ever even one in that place. People want
to look to the past that you got men in
May Park. You've had five different World Championship Astro teams
compete for a World Series in there, two winners, You've
got an MVP, cy young no hitters going in that place.

(01:14:58):
Enjoy what you got and move on from the past.
And there was literally nothing ever won inside of that building.
So ain't nobody got time for the astrodome or paying
for the astrodome or anything like that?

Speaker 2 (01:15:09):
All right, thank you for the phone call.

Speaker 3 (01:15:11):
This is a this is a personal story I have
to tell about the Astrodome because Dan Matthews, our producer,
to any team wants it. When I was a young man,
the Astros were playing the Pirates, okay, and Dave Parker
was playing, and I was a young kid. I used
to love Dave Parker. I used to love the Pittsburgh
Pirate uniforms. Will they Stargeel and all that group. So

(01:15:32):
Willie got into Willie Dave, Dave will Star Joe. Dave
got in some trouble with some cocaine back in the day,
and somebody screamed right behind me, Hey, Dave, I hear
things go better with coke. Wow, it was a play
on the coke. So there you go, Dan, here's your story.

(01:15:54):
You're happy the mayor of Cyprus is calling in? Is
he is self proclaimed? Is that rule with the mayor
of Cypress? I don't even know, I believe, I don't
even know had a mayor. They don't have my vote.
I can't vote for the mayor of Cipers. They don't
live in Cypress. All right, If you got anything else
that's bothering you. Seven one three two one two five

(01:16:14):
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven
ninety more, I've shut your ball mass up.

Speaker 2 (01:16:20):
It ain't nobody got time for that.

Speaker 3 (01:16:22):
After I tell you about two creeks crossing resort, I'm
very pleased to tell you that you can get forty
percent off of a cabin rental.

Speaker 2 (01:16:28):
Now through the end of February. They want to see
you out there.

Speaker 3 (01:16:32):
When the weather cools off a little bit, you can
actually get outside and take a walk and enjoy all
the modern amenities that you can find the Two Creeks
Crossing Resort. It's not far from Livingston and a lot
of waterfront cabins on the premises. It's really relaxing. It's
a very short drive ninety minutes from downtown Houston. If
you live north of the city, it's even shorter than that, obviously,
and you can enjoy a great festivities.

Speaker 2 (01:16:53):
A big water area with.

Speaker 3 (01:16:55):
A pool, huge barbecue pit area, huge pickleball area, lot
of things to do athletically, but if you just want
to go back to your cabin, get in the hot
tub and relax, you can do that too. It's got everything,
modern amenities, laundry facilities, workout area, high speed Wi Fi
throughout the premises. It's two Creaks, two wo Creekscrossingresort dot com.

(01:17:16):
When you get out there, you're gonna enjoy the experience
of being away from town but not too far from home.
Two Creaks Crossingresort dot com more. Matt Thomas now on
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:17:34):
All Right, I got something for you.

Speaker 3 (01:17:36):
Remember when you and I had a healthy debate about
how special it was for Brownie James to play with Lebron.

Speaker 2 (01:17:42):
Yeah, it was cool. It was not cool. It was
nepotism at its worst. Not good enough. Fifty fifth pick,
Oh no, a second round pick and fifty fifth play
with his son to make NBA history. It's not history.
It was forced.

Speaker 3 (01:17:56):
It was It was not on natural. It wasn't because
he deserved it. It's be different if he deserved it.
But let me further my point here on this again.
It was okay, go ahead, further your point. Brian Windhorse
reporting that you know he's been going back and forth
between the G League and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Speaker 2 (01:18:11):
Yes, he is only going to play G League home games.

Speaker 3 (01:18:17):
He is not going to fly with the team on
commercial aircraft to go play G League road games.

Speaker 8 (01:18:22):
Why not.

Speaker 3 (01:18:23):
He's only going to play in the South Lake Bake,
South Bay Laker home games. Going to Brian windhorrse, he's
only going to be a kind of a part time
G League player, and he's not getting on Schmida the
airlines in front of those road games. I know he's
getting somewhat special treatment and nepotism somewhat, that's fine.

Speaker 2 (01:18:40):
I don't care. Like I said, it's normal. Now, I
think it's actually detrimental to him. I don't like that.
I don't know whose idea it was, but obviously the
Lakers are fine with it. They're doing it.

Speaker 3 (01:18:47):
On this particular instance. I think that it's gone too far,
and I don't think it benefits Brownie. I don't think
it benefits the South Lake Lakers, and I don't think
it benefits Lebron at this point. You know what the
ross would I thought you and I we're going to
agree on that we think was the right thing to do.
Is we wanted Browny to spread his own wings, to
create him be his own man. This doesn't help that
at all. He's not an NBA player, and he's probably

(01:19:10):
he's probably not gonna have any sort.

Speaker 2 (01:19:12):
Of NBA career, so he's enjoying as long as he can.

Speaker 1 (01:19:15):
Exactly.

Speaker 2 (01:19:16):
That's what I'm.

Speaker 3 (01:19:17):
Thinking this is, he's not an NBA player, he's not
going to have an NBA career, he's not a mascot,
he's not the face of the Lakers. They they smuggled
him into the system because of how great Lebron James
Is and he strong armed the Lakers to put his
son on the floor with him for three minutes and
to create NBA history.

Speaker 2 (01:19:39):
I'm a problem with it. It's nepotism one, but sometimes
nepotism can work this. He's on the end of the
bench of a G League team.

Speaker 8 (01:19:48):
What did it call?

Speaker 3 (01:19:49):
And it cost him a fifty fifth overall pick, which
he doesn't do anything to howny fifty fifth overall picks
off to travel on road games of league games.

Speaker 2 (01:19:55):
How many fifty fifth overall picks have ever become anything
in the NBA? Question?

Speaker 3 (01:19:59):
How many fifty fifth go to play for Jens special?
I didn't say he's not getting special treatment. He probably
shouldn't even have been picked where he was right, Yeah,
probably so, But it just further pushes me towards the
It wasn't special because it was manufactured. It wasn't authentic,
and it wasn't deserved. Yeah, but if they didn't manufacture,
it never would have happened. So you know what, Bronnie, Yeah,

(01:20:20):
you're a kid, You're dad. Should you know him? Buddy, Lebron,
shut your bomb ass up about your son. Let him
go on the road. Let him see what a commercial
plan was like. So you're one of the all time
great NBA players and your firstborn son, you say, I
have the ability to get my firstborn son on an
NBA floor and to play with me. Michael Jordan Junior

(01:20:40):
didn't get to do that. No, he didn't because he
wasn't good enough. So it never happened. So Bronnie Jameson
Gold not either, Michael.

Speaker 2 (01:20:46):
If we asked, well, Michael Jordan probably wouldn't because hates
lebron so much. He's just gonna say it.

Speaker 3 (01:20:50):
But if you ask, if you asked him in nineteen
ninety seven, hey, is if there were a way for
us to get your son on an NBA floor with you,
would you do it? He would probably say yes. I
think Michael would say I would be like, no, good,
I'm good.

Speaker 2 (01:21:02):
I'm he wants to win.

Speaker 3 (01:21:04):
Can we get your Yeah, he might do that because
he's an ego psychopath. But I'm saying a forty year
old man said I have the ability to get my
firstborn son on an NBA floor with me to make history.

Speaker 2 (01:21:16):
Should I do it or should I not? And he
said I do, I'm going to do it, and we're
crushing the guy for it.

Speaker 3 (01:21:21):
I guess, not crushing. It's just it wasn't special to me. Okay,
Well it's probably special to them, and that's what matters.
And you know what's special to the Lakers because when
he when they did it, Lebron's like, yeah, I'll stay
with you.

Speaker 2 (01:21:34):
I got zero.

Speaker 3 (01:21:36):
It was an end game. There was a few bumps
to make the mean. Look, we have nepotism in this
world all over the place, exactly. That's maybe that's all
I'm saying. We got a really close nepotism. Talk about
who's Connor's dad? What are you talking about? The mayor
of Cypress? Mayor, what is the matter with you, Mayor
of Cypress?

Speaker 22 (01:21:55):
I got issue with the Salisbury show in the more.

Speaker 2 (01:21:58):
Oh now, wait a minute, our guy, what are you
talking about? I know, I know, he is a grown man.

Speaker 22 (01:22:04):
They should not be referring to each other as dogs
and calling people that call him dogs. It's so cringing
when they call each other dogs. Second, on top of that,
he doesn't finish anything he's saying. He'll be on a subject,
stop mistin and start talking to something about something else.

Speaker 1 (01:22:19):
Ain't nobody got time for that?

Speaker 2 (01:22:21):
Ain't nobody got time for that? Humm I will? I
guess I would take that up with them. Yeah, them
phones open six to ten.

Speaker 14 (01:22:30):
Like that douchebag that called their show a couple of
days ago mentioned about me, call me m.

Speaker 2 (01:22:37):
Yeah, I have no comment. What's over? You know Seann's
big boy. He can find his own battles. I didn't.
I don't know. They call each other dogs. What's wrong
with that?

Speaker 4 (01:22:44):
What up?

Speaker 6 (01:22:44):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:22:45):
Yeah, there may be a little bit of dad jokes
in their show occasionally. Okay, still good listen. I listened
driving in. I don't normally catch the show. When that
douchebag that ripped on me called their show, I texted him.

Speaker 14 (01:22:58):
And by the way, Sean and Brian, you didn't text
your back, so shut your bomb asses on man oh man,
you got the cold shoulders.

Speaker 2 (01:23:05):
I'm serious. If I text you, you better damn we'll
text me back.

Speaker 3 (01:23:11):
And the proper way to end the text thread is
by using an emoji, you know, exclamation point, ha ha,
thumbs up, thumbs down. You just are are like see
you later or I'm busy when I text you, you
text me back. Period in the story. I sometimes I forget,
I know, you're the worst cross anybody got time for
you not to return my text? Hey nobody got and no,

(01:23:33):
Carlos on Twitter, Bronni is not D of the Year candidate.

Speaker 2 (01:23:35):
No, he's not D of the Year. It's funny that
you say that, though.

Speaker 3 (01:23:38):
If your dad's like, hey, I'm gonna get You're not
good enough to be drafted in the NBA, but I'm
gonna get you drafted, and I'm gonna get you on
the NBA floor in a Lakers uniform, you'd be like, hell, yeah, dad,
let's go.

Speaker 2 (01:23:47):
But you know what he did. He didn't want to
separate himself. You want he's he's okay, isn't gonna.

Speaker 1 (01:23:51):
Make He's not.

Speaker 2 (01:23:52):
I will, I will predict the gut feeling he's not
gonna have any sort of NBA career.

Speaker 3 (01:23:58):
So I'm five years from now. This is a moot point.
Five years announce a mood point. And you got they
got that special moment between father and so it's largely forgettable.

Speaker 2 (01:24:04):
Mac on seven on a mac, what's the matter with you?
I got hot, y'all going amazing. I don't know if
y'all remember this call.

Speaker 8 (01:24:12):
You might not.

Speaker 23 (01:24:12):
I do, because it was a day where y'all made
me feel like I was an idiot. I called y'all
and I said Travis Hunter was better than Stingley. Uh,
if somebody drapped the Travis Hunter right now and said
they're trading for Stingy with that guys doing.

Speaker 3 (01:24:25):
Now, let me tell you something right now. Mac, First
of all, thank you for calling. There's no way in
the world I would ever you bring up Travis Hunter's
name and saying that he's better than stinging than us
making fun of you. Could have been somebody.

Speaker 2 (01:24:36):
Else, now sure?

Speaker 3 (01:24:38):
Oh absolutely, Now Max, there was a different show tender.
Yeah there's the Mac. I swear it wasn't us. Now, Mac,
I will tell you, and honestly, if you listen to
Noon to three show, I wanted Sauce Gardner over Darryl
Derek Stingley, and I remain consistent on that.

Speaker 2 (01:24:51):
Sauce Gardner's had I've been having a great year. He's
still better. It's up for debate.

Speaker 3 (01:24:56):
No sign, thank you, Mac. Okay, how is Travis How
is Travis Hunter doing? He's trying to win the Heisman.

Speaker 2 (01:25:05):
My vote goes to Ashton genty the you know he's
like four foot seven, No, he's running for like three
hundred yards a game. He's playing Wyoming. Can't you break
he ran?

Speaker 3 (01:25:16):
He ran for almost two hundred yards against Oregon, the
number one team in the country.

Speaker 2 (01:25:19):
Yeah, non commerce, Oregan didn't care. Oh my god, look
at their Look at their Look.

Speaker 3 (01:25:24):
At their body of work. You're playing, they're playing Nevada.
Nobody's some there's a there's fifty other running backs on
that same type of schedule and they're not doing what
he does. Watch watch the games, man, A two way
awesome player is getting the Heisman. Probably put it on
the board. He got one hundred and ninety two yards
on twenty five carries against Oregon, the number one team

(01:25:45):
in the country. Seven point seven yards good and three touchdowns.

Speaker 2 (01:25:49):
That is good.

Speaker 3 (01:25:50):
I'll give you credit for that one again. Come on, man,
what do you do against Central Central Wisconsin or something.

Speaker 2 (01:25:56):
Like that, Georgia Southern? He had two hundred and six
or seven yards to go. You're helping my point. He's
an animal. Bell and Katie, what's the matter with you?

Speaker 4 (01:26:05):
Yeah?

Speaker 13 (01:26:05):
Man, I heard you and Biscuits going at it early
about they actually don't blowing it up and making something
out of it. And Biscuits the stead of talking about
you know, the people will come. Ain't nobody come in
there for people from Third War?

Speaker 5 (01:26:18):
Ire?

Speaker 11 (01:26:19):
What or what?

Speaker 4 (01:26:22):
Oh?

Speaker 13 (01:26:22):
Night Ward and Louis down on biscuit. I'm a brother,
I ain't going that way and I'm da Ain't nobody
gonna count for that?

Speaker 2 (01:26:29):
This?

Speaker 3 (01:26:30):
Ain't nobody got time for this biscuit. You just got
called out. I don't care what word you come from.
No one from any part of town's going to energy.

Speaker 2 (01:26:39):
You have to go to Texas.

Speaker 3 (01:26:41):
It was a great point made by you, Matt, about
how these suburbs now have their own self sustaining ass
and things to do.

Speaker 2 (01:26:49):
Yeah, go to Sugarland. Do you ever leave it? Did
anybody from Shoreland ever leave Shreland? Less? They have to
run out?

Speaker 1 (01:26:55):
Last?

Speaker 2 (01:26:55):
Call real quick, Joe seven ninety Joe, what's the matter
with you.

Speaker 24 (01:27:00):
Calling about in defense of nepotism. You know a lot
of people criticize, and it's okay to say that maybe
the recipients of nepotism are not worth it. But if
you were ever a father, and you have a son
or a daughter, and you're a fortunate enough position to

(01:27:21):
help them succeed in.

Speaker 4 (01:27:22):
Life, you would most likely do it too.

Speaker 24 (01:27:25):
And everybody else that sees that and can't do it,
I guess or isn't fortunate enough to do it, they're.

Speaker 11 (01:27:34):
Kind of just hater that.

Speaker 2 (01:27:35):
That is not the definition of nepotism.

Speaker 3 (01:27:38):
Helping your sons out and your daughters out is part
of being a good father, getting them jobs and don't
deserve them. As nepotism, there's a significant difference. Anybody that's
a parent, I would think would try to help their
kids in life, whether it be for education or buying
a car, helping them get a job, or whatever the
case may be. But flat out nepotism is getting a

(01:27:59):
job and not deserving it. I disagree. I think it's
getting an opportunity that would not be there if you
were not the father. For example, where would now would
No Eagle might find his way as he would. Yeah,
he would take a lot long, he would absolutely take
the opportunity. That's nepotism. That is absolutely nepotism. And argue
at that point at all, John, I got to roll
at the top of the r.

Speaker 8 (01:28:19):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:28:20):
No Eagle nepotism, Joe Buck nepotism. Tom Brenneman nepotism, they're
good in their own right, but they became good. Helped
them law Yeah, yeah, but I think his parents. I
want to help my kids if I can help get
him a help job. That's what Lebron's doing, wants to
help his son. But I don't carry any weight like
that he's going. He's trying to get him a job
in one of the most exclusive jobs in the in

(01:28:41):
the world, being an NBA player, when he has no
business being then now he's hanging out with the G
League home games only.

Speaker 2 (01:28:46):
Yeah, all right, the news at noon is coming up
in a matter of moments. You know what you can do.
You can't bet on Brownie James in a Laker game tonight.
Ain't not there.

Speaker 3 (01:28:55):

Speaker 2 (01:30:29):
Show Tomo seven. What's happening in lunch timers.

Speaker 3 (01:30:32):
It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross on Sports
talks of an hony time.

Speaker 2 (01:30:36):
Now for the news at Noone. We've had one main
topic so far today, have we not? Well? Madden, That's
gonna stay at the top of the New year today?
Every time? No, I only do it a half half good.
I I can't help it. I hear this music and
I want to talk like this. How about this weather?
We've been having renderings of the astronome conservancies one billion

(01:30:58):
dollar plan to say the Landmark Stadium have been revealed
today Matt in a Houston Chronicle exclusive. The conservacy is
looking to turn this into a four hundred and fifty
thousand square foot venue with new revenue generating.

Speaker 3 (01:31:18):
Space, talking about shops, restaurants, facilities, storage of animals for
the rodeo, hospitality exhibitions, shopping of course, and it's going
to cost a billion dollars. They say, a mix of

(01:31:39):
public and private funding how much of that mix We
do not know. The alternative, which I am in favor of,
would be one hundred million dollars to demolish the Astrodome,
which is just a money pit at this point, because
why does it cost so much to keep it operating
with the electrical bill and stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:32:00):
They can't just flip that all off just past our
pay grade. It just says, I don't have an answer,
because every time you try to get an answered, they
you get into a word salad with people about it.

Speaker 3 (01:32:09):
And I'm sure there is there is. Seriously, I always
thought it was one million dollars operate, not one hundred No,
one hundred millions. Oh okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:32:17):
My guess is because you can't do it the old
fashioned way, just to implode the some bitch. I don't
like keep calling us some bitch. I shouldn't. It's my girl,
but it's time to go bye bye. I agree.

Speaker 3 (01:32:28):
But the new plan unveiled for the Astrodome, and we'll
see what happens. But it feels like this happens every
few years.

Speaker 2 (01:32:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:32:34):
I don't know if this is going to get on
any sort of balloting. Apparently the Rodeo is not really
aware of these plans on the audios, send an email
of the Chronicle in advanced and says we're not aware
of this, and we everything we've heard in the past
doesn't make any sense. And I said this about a
half an hour ago, and it bears repeating because other
folks on Twitter, a SYD the exact same thing. If

(01:32:55):
you're with any conservacy group, if you are with anybody
that wants to build anything in around that stadium, you
better get the Texans and already on your side.

Speaker 2 (01:33:04):
And until you do that, this is a moot conversation.

Speaker 3 (01:33:07):
Phoebe Tudor in a statement, we are confident that because
of the Astroms designation as a historical landmark and astrodom
redevelopment can leverage significant private dollars dollars that are not
available for new construction or other improvements to Energy Park
to minimize public investment. We can create a successful public
private partnership to ensure this Houston treasure will have a

(01:33:29):
bright future. Did she write this in two thousand and two?
Feels like it feels like we've been going through this
for a while. This is a This is one of
the all time classics on this show, I think Pete
Wilson Hall of Fame is Matt Shobb and elite quarterback
Vince Young. Well, I guess those Mario Williams, Mario Owins

(01:33:51):
before this show. But regulation sports, yeah, radio history, yep,
that's one of the al teimers. Certainly this one is
well as well. Elsewhere in the news, Matthew the Los
Angeles Clippers in town for a two game set against
the Houston Rockets. Rockets at this moment a minus three
and a half game tonight at seven o'clock here on
Sports Talk seven ninety at the Toyota Center. Fred Van

(01:34:13):
Vliet still a questionable for tonight's game as Steven Adams,
but that feeling, I'm gonna say, you need Steven Adams,
but he played last game. Yeah, feels like he's a
fifty to fifty guy. Literally every single day he's fifty
to fifty. It's how he feels, how he warmed you
know a lot of times it has been actually how
he warms up.

Speaker 2 (01:34:30):
So there's no need.

Speaker 3 (01:34:32):
Guess he's going against vices Zubats. He's got a big
physical guy.

Speaker 2 (01:34:38):
By the way.

Speaker 3 (01:34:38):
Kevin Porter Junior back in town for the first time
since being released by the rock are being traded by
the Rockets.

Speaker 2 (01:34:43):
Okay, okay, okay, I don't have a whole lot of
comment on that. Okay, that seems fair. Let's see.

Speaker 3 (01:34:51):
Also, the college football playoff rankings are out out mat
the Oregon Ducks number one, Ohio State number two. A
lot of being questioning this. The Texas Longhorns are number three.
The team that beat them, the Georgia Bulldogs are twelve.

Speaker 8 (01:35:10):
Now.

Speaker 3 (01:35:10):
The Bulldogs do have two losses, including the bad one
at Ole Miss, but a close one to Alabama.

Speaker 2 (01:35:17):
They beat Texas and they also have a big.

Speaker 3 (01:35:21):
Win over Clemson, who is twentieth, but they are twelfth
despite the head head win over Texas, who is number three. Now, again,
if just because you win your conference doesn't guarantee you
a spot in the four or are you if you
win your conference, yes, you're guaranteed. For example, BYU is
six in the rankings, but they're the four seed, which

(01:35:44):
I think is ridiculous. So if you win one of
the big four conferences, you get wow, but you're not automatic.
If you are saying Boise State correct, they get an
automatic bid, but not an automatic bye. They would have
to go over one of those other four teams. Yeah,

(01:36:04):
they're thirteenth in the College Football Playoff rankings, but they're
in the playoff because right now, right now, Georgia at
twelve would be outside looking in because Boise State is
the highest ranking outside of the Power four.

Speaker 2 (01:36:15):
Ooh, gotta you know what? Can I say this?

Speaker 3 (01:36:17):
And I don't mean to be rude, just wake me
up when the decisions final decisions made, I don't think
getting all but heard about where the rankings are. Was
still three weeks left to go and the regular season
makes much sense.

Speaker 2 (01:36:29):
Yeah, so there you go.

Speaker 25 (01:36:31):
Four.

Speaker 3 (01:36:31):
It's the top four highest ranking conference championship champions. So
if Boise was better than say, BYU, Boise could supplant BYU,
or Boise could be better than SEC champion. Right, you're
only guaranteeing four conference champions in the top four, right, Yeah.
If a group of five champion is not in the

(01:36:52):
top twelve, they will be automatically placed at twelve. The
top four teams receive a first round by to the
quarterfinals no matter what.

Speaker 2 (01:37:01):
So I think that's correct.

Speaker 3 (01:37:02):
I think so Boise if they somehow continue to win
and finish ahead of BYU. So there are five conferences,
and well the Power four and then the highest ranking
of any other conference champions. Right, so if the sunballoty
could be MAC But in this particular case it's Boise State.
So Boise State's guaranteed in and if it had a

(01:37:24):
higher ranking, it could be it could supplant one of
the other four teams that are Power Force. Yes, so
apparently yeah, Boise State can this is I guess where
we need to bring in, Gordy. They can earn a
top four seed if there is chaos with the Big
twelve and or AC seed.

Speaker 2 (01:37:40):
Okay, got you interesting? All right? What I was leaving
the ACC right now? Miami? Yeah, Miami's ninth and they
get a top four seed right now because they're a
Power four school.

Speaker 3 (01:37:51):
They should have just want done one through twelve plus
the the out side of the power flour.

Speaker 2 (01:37:56):
How have them with the buys? How they are? Okay?

Speaker 3 (01:37:58):
But whatever, and well that's your news at New Matt
and Anthony Richardson is now the quarterback of the Cults.
I was gonna mention that also very quickly, Greg Popovic,
it came out that it was a mild stroke was
his health issue. He will be back coaching the Spurs,
but the timeline is TBD. Okay, there's the news at
noon twelve fourteen on Sports Talk seven ninety seven one

(01:38:18):
three two one two five seven.

Speaker 2 (01:38:20):
Ie.

Speaker 3 (01:38:20):
So the question I have for the conservancy and I
don't really necessarily have him on the show because I don't.

Speaker 2 (01:38:26):
I don't.

Speaker 3 (01:38:27):
I don't support her, So why I don't? I don't
want to hear the side. I mean, I know what
she's going to say, But why bring this out today?
Did something happen that was just this felt like that
mid November twenty twenty four was the right time to
put this out there. Do they finally have their ducks
in a row? Does miss tudor have the financial people

(01:38:47):
backing her that maybe they haven't had five or six
years ago.

Speaker 2 (01:38:50):
Why was the point? What was the point of going
out today and.

Speaker 3 (01:38:53):
Saying these things when we've been talking about this for
twenty years seven one three two one two five seven
one three two one two five seven nine zero. On Twitter,
it's at Sports Empt, at Sports RV, and at Connerdy

Speaker 9 (01:40:04):
Thomas Now on Sports Talk seven ninety we have an early.

Speaker 3 (01:40:09):
Busy show between now and two o'clock today one o'clock
you Mayo Dooka is going to join us for a
few minutes Rockets and the hated Los Angeles Clippers. In
one point thirty, we'll talk to Willie Fritz Cougar's against
Arizona Wildcats on Friday night, and then we have Believe
It or Not Today, which will be about all things
about Justin Timberlake. Yes, you got time to write a door,

(01:40:33):
I will, and we are trying to weed out the
Price Horse. Yes, so we're requiring you to have a
password to get in, and the password to get you
to play the game today is D in a box.

Speaker 2 (01:40:50):
Or d in the box. We'll take either one.

Speaker 3 (01:40:52):
D NA box is the password for us to let
you have the opportunity to win a pair of Justin
because we have a lot of people that we'll say
I just turned the show on, and I'll say which
favorite part of the show, And you could really lie
and say all the astros talk and got prize Horse,
but we got price Horse, and we're gonna make sure
the prize hors don't win these nice tickets to see
Justin Timberlake. Connor will ask you what the password is

(01:41:13):
and you will say, Dana box A good one coming
up at one fifty, that's right. Twelve twenty three on
Sports talk somebody. A lot of our conversations today. What
do you feel like you're dancing? We're not on television.
Space City's not here, So what man? You don't want
to play proof? We play hundreds of bump music songs

(01:41:36):
on the show.

Speaker 2 (01:41:36):
You don't dance with that. It's a jam though, Is
it shooting time? Come on? Craak this up, craak it up. Yeah, Look,
Connor's feeling it. Jac's got hits.

Speaker 7 (01:41:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:41:45):
What's the car like on a JT concert in this
day and age? I mean, Connor can rope him some
cougars over there? Connor here, you'll go chase cougar's once.
All right?

Speaker 6 (01:41:58):
If we don't get winners, I'll be there. Oh so
he doesn't want you to win. Yeah, I'm rooining against
him for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:42:06):
That's actually very funny.

Speaker 3 (01:42:07):
Okay seven one three, two one two five seven eight.
I brought this up a min ago. And if you're
just joining us, a where the hell have you been?
Be dang glad to have you here. We brought this
up about this conservancy, uh creating this one billion dollar
plan to create I'm gonna look at the pole question,
how manny square feet? We talk about forty four hundred

(01:42:29):
and fifty thousand square feet of I don't know, shopping,
and I guess it's it's just going to become a
glorified mall. Well, they're they're living in an open for interpretation,
and they want to have an avenue that goes through
the middle of it so you can walk through it
on your way to NRG Stadium. Right one bang in

(01:42:51):
a renovated astrodome, four hundred and fifty thousand square feet
of revenue and fifteen hundred new parking spots.

Speaker 2 (01:42:56):
Three hundred and four votes are in.

Speaker 3 (01:42:58):
Sixty four percent said tear it down, Thirty six percent
say sounds good, let's do it. That's I think that's
the percentage that's basically been pretty consistent for a better
part of a decade.

Speaker 2 (01:43:07):
I feel like two thirds of every person that I
find is saying tear it down. I would agree.

Speaker 3 (01:43:14):
What I don't understand is if you're with anything any
sort of business development, somebody, this architectural firm created this thing,
but you have to do the due diligence on this
and say is the city of Houston is Harris County
is the seven county area around us thirsting for such

(01:43:36):
a complex and my answer to that has been for
where that is in town, the answer is no, because
of two things. One we go into our sporting events,
we go into our concerts, and then we leave. Well,
some people can say, well there's something for me to
go to before and after. That may be true, but

(01:43:58):
with the number of restaurants and bars and social clubs
that are closing on the daily, to put that amount
of money, time and effort into that area of town
doesn't make any sense at all, especially because the Woodlands
had its own community. Cyprus has his own area of
town where they do their thing. Katie's got their own thing,

(01:44:21):
sugar Land has their own thing. Everybody's for the most
part kind of has their own thing. Keema, Yes, I
think the answer is in plain sight. The last event
in that building was in two thousand and two, and
in Houston there's been a lot of business developments, a

(01:44:42):
lot of architectural developments and lofts and bars and venues
and all that built up in that time, and not
one company has said I can turn this into a moneymaker.

Speaker 2 (01:44:54):
It just hasn't happened.

Speaker 3 (01:44:55):
This plan is put together by a commission that found
it itself with Phoebe Tudor making one hundred thousand dollars
donation to herself.

Speaker 2 (01:45:04):
To found this thing and come up with this plan.

Speaker 3 (01:45:07):
I just feel like if it were profitable, it would
have happened by now. We've been sitting talking about this
for twenty plus years more than that.

Speaker 8 (01:45:15):
Now.

Speaker 3 (01:45:15):
Is Miss Tudor doing this because she just loves the
astrodome or she loves it? Sounds like to me her
background is appreciation of all sorts of architecture. Yeah, she's
she likes to preserve all landmarks, not necessarily just the astrodome.

Speaker 2 (01:45:31):
Yeah. I think that's what it is.

Speaker 3 (01:45:32):
I think it's grasping at the straws of the history
of what the astrodome represents. And I understand all of that,
and it is a historical building. But more historical buildings
than the Astrodome have gone away in every major city
in everyone in the Yeah, in the entire world. How
many seven wonders of the natural world are still up?

(01:45:54):
I think, why is the Pyramids?

Speaker 8 (01:45:56):
Is that it? I mean?

Speaker 3 (01:45:57):
And I appreciate the legacy that the stadium as I
appreciate the first of its kind, but as charming as
the astrodome is it's just concrete, it's just metal.

Speaker 2 (01:46:10):
Yeah, it was what was it sixty three, sixty four
whatever when it opened or built sixty five. I think, okay,
so whatever, that's been sixty years. It's an old building.

Speaker 3 (01:46:22):
Sometimes after sixty years, buildings need to be taken down,
or buildings just they need to be condemned or they're
not going to be I think flipping it into this
restaurant thing, it's just not going to be viable. And
I don't want to spend a public scent on it.
I put this up for a vote. I can't wait.

Speaker 2 (01:46:38):
Let's do it. I mean, here's what I want. I
want to know somebody that's with the Rodeo.

Speaker 3 (01:46:42):
I want them to publicly come out and say, girl,
love you, appreciate you, but we don't buy into this.
And as long as the Rodeo doesn't buy into it,
and as long as the Texans don't buy into it,
nobody's buying into it.

Speaker 2 (01:46:55):
Four hundred and fifty thous for what.

Speaker 3 (01:46:58):
A billion dollar plan, and I'm about tells they're talking.
I mean, it could be a variety of things.

Speaker 2 (01:47:05):
It's just a gang.

Speaker 4 (01:47:07):
I I.

Speaker 8 (01:47:10):
There.

Speaker 3 (01:47:10):
I want Downtown renovated before I want the Astronomarya renovated
to be brutally honest with you. Yeah, and as I
mentioned this before, I gonna get to break on this one.
This here, Harris County Sports Authority is gonna be busy,
really busy the next ten years. We've got three facilities
that are over twenty years of age. They are neither
gonna need a major facelift or they're gonna want a
new building. I think all the well, I haven't been

(01:47:33):
an energy recently. They some they like the Georgia Dome
in Atlanta, but they got rid of it. Okay, they
like Turner Field Atlanta, but they Toyota Center.

Speaker 2 (01:47:42):
It's just fine.

Speaker 3 (01:47:43):
Oh no, they're gonna they're gonna refurbish it. It's they
got a nice new video board. It's nice. But they're
gonna be looking for other things. I everybody, every sports
team in this you're gonna expect if the Texas win
the Super Bowl, Are you kidding me, You're gonna be
hearing about getting a major facelift for NRG immediately. Because
here's the thing. They're not going to host a final
round of the World Cup. They're no longer in Super

(01:48:04):
Bowl rotation. So that's what they want is this for
the bigger events. I guess I think they want more
bells and whistles and they don't want to lose out
on other events. Jerry World's being built, so FIH in
Los Angeles, everything a legion. In Las Vegas, there are
there are some facilities that are just from a structural standpoint,

(01:48:26):
have all the bells and whistles that these rich owners
and rich sports leagues want. Seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven ninety with the ward here for quality home

They are pricey. I'm not going to kid you on that,

We've been giving out the password that you must give

if you have missed that, we'll give away the password again.

Speaker 2 (01:50:24):

seven one, three, two, one two five, seven ninety. As
we continue rolling on Don't Talk seven ninety, Don't talk
seven ninety. How long are we going to go on
with this? I mean I'm talking about not today, if
I mean in general, I mean, are we gonna get
this once a year? Is this gonna fall in deaf
fears again? When you when you read the Chronicle story

(01:50:49):
and I invite you all to do that. They the
Chronicle reached out to the Texans, they said nothing and say, hey,
this sounds encouraging. Can't wait to see next stagey. This
is starting to feel like a nothing burger. If there
were piles of money to be made with the Astrodome,
it would have already been done.

Speaker 2 (01:51:06):
Correct. That's my question is why is this popping up
again now?

Speaker 3 (01:51:12):
Because our lady Phoebe Tudor just just did her god
knows how much money she spent on this project. And
then as our good friend of the show Joan is
mentioned on Twitter, I guess it might not be torn
down now since it was made a historical marker. But
I don't know about the ins and outs on that. Okay,
So at this point we're saying it's either just standing

(01:51:33):
there and sitting there, or it's going to be refurbished.
All right, fine, refurbish it. Let's spend a billion dollars
of our money. Let's not reinvest in.

Speaker 8 (01:51:41):
Our roads and our schools and our.

Speaker 2 (01:51:43):
Highways and oh, I don't know, flood infrastructure. Let's spend
money on the free rim the power grid.

Speaker 1 (01:51:52):
Now, let's just let's make the.

Speaker 2 (01:51:53):
Astrodome into an indoor mall. Yeah, that sounds like a
great use of resources. Ridiculous downtown shopping in Cleveland, or
I stay at a nice hotel casino next door to it.
Oh hell yeah, ghost town.

Speaker 3 (01:52:16):
If you're gonna say, Matt, hey, Matt, let's go to
a restaurant and you know what, I want to get
some shopping done.

Speaker 2 (01:52:21):
Let's go all the way down to sixteen in Kirby
for it. There's a hundred places we're gonna pass. We'd
rather go on the way O.

Speaker 3 (01:52:30):
First of all, malls are dropping by the way, they're done. Yeah,
Old Navy dot com is your friend, well, Jeff Bezos
at Amazon dot Com. I mean, the last two pairs
of dress shoes I bought were on Amazon.

Speaker 2 (01:52:43):
Did they fit? Okay?

Speaker 8 (01:52:44):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:52:44):
I feel great? Okay, look good?

Speaker 3 (01:52:46):
Too, did you Now what I will do is I'll
go try them on in the store and then order online.

Speaker 2 (01:52:50):
You're discussed. What's disgusting about that? I don't know. I
just want to see you're discussed. Just say, if it's
cheaper online, then why would I do that? So this
per in the shoe store you go to, it's like, oh, hello, sir,
what is your name? A Ross? Ross? Oh, it is
my pleasure to have you here.

Speaker 3 (01:53:07):
Yeah, I cannot wait to find your the shoe that
fits you best so we can make a dime to
keep this company going and thriving. And you go in,
you know what you do, You taste tests and then
you leave. Basically I did it with the I went
into mar me My and I tried I tried the
I talked to the lady and I was like, yeah,
I've been looking at the sleeping bag and I went

(01:53:28):
to go see if I could fit it because it
was on it was on discount online.

Speaker 2 (01:53:31):
So I'm going to free market economy.

Speaker 3 (01:53:33):
So are you doing the same thing when you go
to rest rye and you go look at a television
and then you go buy it online. Guess what that's
absolutely on percent? What I did the television that is
sitting in front of my couch right now. I went
and looked at it at mess May you said, sleeping bag. Yeah,
so you got like in the sleeping bag in the store. Yeah,
they have they have you're putting on shoes. You're not
gonna buy shoes. And then you went in the sleeping bag.

(01:53:56):
You're not buying from Rory Rye.

Speaker 2 (01:53:57):
They don't have to open.

Speaker 3 (01:53:58):
They have them hanging. They have test sleeping bags. Is
they're the purpose of those sleeping bags to see.

Speaker 2 (01:54:02):
If you can fit in them? Oh, unfortunately I need
the wide body. Connor, just sketch it all or just legit.
Go ahead, Connor, just testing out sleeping value.

Speaker 3 (01:54:13):
Common go go to a camping store with my brother
and you'll see him hanging up in there and you
can hop in him if you see if you can fit.

Speaker 2 (01:54:18):
Why would you buy a sleeping bag if you're not
sure you're gonna finish. So when you go to.

Speaker 3 (01:54:23):
And you walk in there and you try to sleeping
bag on it, yeah, and you said, oh, this feels good,
and they say what would you like one? You say, no,
I'm gonna go online and buy it. I told her, Yeah, absolutely,
and what did she said back to you? She said, oh,
that's a good price. It was it was like seventy
bucks off of what uh what I was gonna get.
And she was like, whoa, that's a good price.

Speaker 2 (01:54:42):
So it's all it's all chill. What do you want
me to do? You wanna lie to her? I'm not
gonna buy it online. It was on clearance. I'm not
gonna buy it.

Speaker 3 (01:54:48):
You're kind of lying, You're giving You're giving her the
impression that you're gonna buy it.

Speaker 2 (01:54:51):
I I told her to her face. It had what
the price was online, but it was on clearance, so
I couldn't buy it and send it back if it
didn't fit. Go ahead, poke holes, No, I'm good. I think.

Speaker 3 (01:55:01):
I think what you're doing is honest and above board.
What I did was totally reasonable. So just remember next
ting we go to a ray Rest shoe source and
you're looking at a pair of sneaks. Ross Viller out
probably put them on first. I have, well, anybody has
put those on first? Did krittle on the Matt Thomas
shoid twelve forty D?

Speaker 2 (01:55:22):
What's up?

Speaker 4 (01:55:23):
What's up?

Speaker 2 (01:55:24):
Matt hi Ross? What's up?

Speaker 4 (01:55:27):
Hey?

Speaker 2 (01:55:27):
How's it going? Dcred a long time.

Speaker 7 (01:55:28):
No hear from h Yeah, man, Duke basketball is starting up,
so just pay attention. So on Astrodome talk, man, there's
only one person that I haven't heard nobody put all
this blame on, and that's Ed Emmett. Ed Emmett is
the sole reason why we're going through this conversation year

(01:55:49):
in and year out because of his greedy motives. And
the last time I played in the Astrodome, it was
two thousand and three. I went I went to Willer
High School and we played Madison High School. That that
turf was like playing on concrete.

Speaker 8 (01:56:04):
It was horrible.

Speaker 7 (01:56:06):
The astrodome, the locker rooms was horrible.

Speaker 2 (01:56:09):
And just put that one little mote.

Speaker 7 (01:56:11):
Uh that one time that I played in the AstraDome,
I knew that the astrado needs to go. It was horrible,
and so I just say, hey, it's time to get
rid of that. I've been said it's time to get
rid of it. But I had a good feeling that
said it's not gonna get gone until twenty thirty two.

Speaker 2 (01:56:28):
May never go away thanks to twenty thirty two.

Speaker 8 (01:56:31):
Why is it? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:56:32):
Why twenty thirty two? That's interesting.

Speaker 7 (01:56:35):
Because they keep prolonging.

Speaker 3 (01:56:36):
No, I think you know what de Kurnel our grandchildren
I have been finding about the astronom. Unfortunately, thanks for
the phone call. We'll see you later, all right, Sports
Talk seven ninety. What's he doing here? Who damn are
you coming in for some reason? Are you cared to talk?
You keep staring at me like this is really weird?

Speaker 2 (01:56:56):
What do you need? Number three? I do have experience
in situations like this because of what the Braves did
building their own little mixed use. But here's the thing
of why it worked in Atlanta. They built two hotels
on site. They built apartments there, so you already had

(01:57:16):
built in people who would be there. And also too,
you have to have attractions like this almost kind of
looks like to me like another Discovery Green. We already
have one of those, and it's pretty much sparsely used anyway,
So give me a reason to come down there, then
maybe it works. What I can't understand why doesn't cal
McNair buy that plot and try to build his own
thing where he can control all that recause it doesn't

(01:57:36):
need it. He doesn't need it.

Speaker 3 (01:57:39):
Why is why are owners buying anything when the cities
will pay them for because they go and visit the
braves and they ask them, hey, you control all this revenue.
We do really Yeah, but I mean if that was
the case, then we see a lot more owners doing it.
We're not seeing that very many owners. By the way,
Craig Evlatti in front of the show, I just left
the press conference. It is not a good sign when
the rodeo doesn't want want to do any have anything

(01:58:01):
to do with this plan.

Speaker 11 (01:58:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:58:05):
Could you imagine that woman what's her name, Phoebe, Phoebe
tudor Phoebe Tutor. Yeah, Phoebe. A question for you. What's
the rodeos thoughts on this? Oh, well, we've had some nothing.
That's how probably went.

Speaker 3 (01:58:22):
Yeah, they said see you later, No, watch your plan go.
I did bring up Atlanta earlier in the show today,
before you were, before you even hear, I said that
these stadium ages used to be thirty forty years it's
twenty twenty five, and Atlanta is a great example of that.

Speaker 2 (01:58:39):
Well, it also takes somebody getting the ball moving too
as well, Like somebody gets a new stadium and then
all of a sudden, somebody else pops up and says, hey,
what about us? And then Harris County tells them, well
we got them. That's when Fort Bend. That's when Montgomery
County hops in.

Speaker 3 (01:58:55):
I want a crazy take. Uh oh yes, I love
crazy takes. I sit by, I sit here and hear
them Monday through Friday. We really prefer strong takes. Strong
takes right here, and I'll am my sentences to kttle style.
Let's hit the Sizzlet's all right, this is an ultimate sizzle. Okay,
the next Texas home will not be in Harris County.

Speaker 2 (01:59:19):
Four Bend.

Speaker 3 (01:59:20):
Yeah, four Bend feels like the favorite. Montgomery's too far. Yeah,
I don't know, just throwing it out though. Okay, I
like it, just I don't like it, but I just
see it. Ask us an example, right, Thank you very much,
Dan Matthews, thanks for bringing us lunch seven one three
two one two five sing. Dan's gonna be filling in
for you sometime while you're gone. Yeah, sorry, I'm going
to vacation, Dan, enjoy those extra hours. Yeah, I don't know, Jane,

(01:59:41):
I'll bring it back some Japanese with I'm not going
to Japano Korea and title Kwan bring us some cream
barbecue back.

Speaker 2 (01:59:49):
I'm gonna put it in my Belly.

Speaker 3 (01:59:52):
Twelve forty four on Sports Talk Sevenatti seven one three
two one two five Savinati. We got an ema Doka
coming up in fifteen minutes right here on seven Nati,
right here on seven ninety where I need to talk
to you about your health and well being.

Speaker 7 (02:00:03):
And you know what.

Speaker 3 (02:00:04):
You've probably heard me talk about Centergenics and you said, yes,
I've been slowing down, Yes, the libido hasn't been great,
Yes I'm plant toing in my workouts.

Speaker 2 (02:00:11):
But you haven't gotten it done. Why not? It is
so easy because they have the clinics all over town.

Speaker 3 (02:00:16):
They are going to get your results back at your
very first visit, and they're also going to give you
customized TRT plans. It's more advanced than the basic standard there.
Some of the places are going to give you a
bottle and send you on your way. You do not
want to be under the care of a place like that.
You want somebody that's going to tailor treatment specifically to
your needs. That's why you go to centergenicshealth dot Com

(02:00:36):
with those clinics all over town, with them being experts
in GLP one weight loss, where you can be evaluated
for prescription weight loss medications. So stop waiting. Don't wait
to the first because you're not even gonna do it.
Then get it done now, book your appointment at centergenics
Health dot com. That's s y n e R gen
Xhealth dot com, Centergenics Health dot com. Matt Thomas, we'd

(02:00:59):
like to thank his parents for only giving him two first.

Speaker 9 (02:01:02):
Names, because who would listen to Billy Ray Thomas talk
about Houston sports the.

Speaker 2 (02:01:08):
Matt Thomas Show on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 25 (02:01:19):
Any game plan, you talk about adjustments, and that's always
a factor when you talk about scouting yourself a Seales
scouts and also scouting your opponents. So you're always looking
at tennessees and things to change, things, to add or
do something a little different. But it's the day of
the day. You still have to execute whatever changes you make.
But that is that's part of any game is about,

(02:01:42):
you know, adjusting.

Speaker 2 (02:01:46):
Man, his coach speak is just it's top shelf, it's
every bit of Kubiak. Yeah, doesn't give you a whole lot.
I would say that's majority of coaches in the have
we been unlucky. We just haven't had a real plain spoken.

Speaker 3 (02:02:06):
Like who would you say in the history of Houston
sports that we have had hearing that just man, give
it to you and it's like relatable, it's it gives
you a little bit more of it in depth. I
would say the coach that doesn't pull punches the most
that I can remember, at least recently, he's coming up

(02:02:26):
on the show in nine minutes. That's what you want
to listen to you, I mean, he does it. It's like,
we got to get better, we got to execute. I
mean he was even talking about first week of the
season about alprin chingoon playing himself into shape. I mean,
coach Udoka, he's not with the BS as you know, matter.
He's not demonstrative. He's very matter of fact, matter of fact.

(02:02:48):
He doesn't call people out. He doesn't lose as cool
And that's what I that's why I think his messaging
works is because he's not reactionary and emotional about it.
He's just a matter of fact, like, yeah, we got
to play better, Yes we need to ex cute better.
Yes this guy's not playing well on defense. Yes this
guy is not making good decisions with shot selection. And
it's just it's it's not calling out people for the
sake of calling out. It's question asked, question answered, I'll

(02:03:12):
give you one. I thought Larry Derker was excellent with
that kind of stuff. Okay, the only thing I remember
about him is massive hands. Well, a lot of people
have massive hands.

Speaker 2 (02:03:24):
It's got like one hundred of the giant hands. Nothing
to do with what he said, I'm sorry, playing one more.

Speaker 3 (02:03:31):
Let's see, I'm gonna let's go. Let's go spin the wheel. Okay,
number one through ten? You want to pick a number
one through twelve?

Speaker 2 (02:03:38):
No, do that, Let's go speak. You know, how about
just the.

Speaker 3 (02:03:45):
He was asked about coaches making adjustments, and I think
so a lot of the talk about with people has
been oh, no second half adjustment, no second half adjustments,
And as Dimko says, coaches are making adjustments like after
the first plays the game. Adjustments are happening throughout the game.
Here's what Demiko had to say about well, people questioning

(02:04:06):
the lack of adjustments in the second half from the Texans.

Speaker 25 (02:04:09):
First of all, the biggest thing coaches make adjustments all
throughout the game, So it's not like a big second
half adjustment that happens in games. Defenses, they don't run
one coverage the second the first half and come out
and run a different coverage. That's not what it is, right,
They're always rolling different calls, and you have to be
able to make plays based on whatever you're seeing from

(02:04:32):
that perspective. So it's not so much about for me,
not the adjustments. I look at us first and foremost. Right,
A lot of people can focus on whatever adjustments defensive makes,
but it's about us and our focus and our execution.
And I'll continue to speak about that because that's the
only thing that matters to me is the Texans and
how we execute and how we operate. And right now,

(02:04:55):
first half we had some really good things that happened
that it wasn't all perfect, and the second half for
the game, we didn't.

Speaker 2 (02:05:01):
We didn't execute the right way.

Speaker 25 (02:05:02):
We didn't we couldn't get plays started, we got penalties,
we got negative plays.

Speaker 2 (02:05:06):
We're not blocking the right people on our assignment.

Speaker 25 (02:05:09):
So let's do that right and then let's see how
we can how we can play and finish in the
second half.

Speaker 17 (02:05:17):
Hmm.

Speaker 2 (02:05:18):
It's about executing, Matt.

Speaker 3 (02:05:20):
I really want to go into the locker room and
I want to hear him because I don't think we're
getting even a close ERF a sample size of who
he is when that door closes. What do you think
he's chewing everybody out and MF and everybody? I think so,
I don't think so. I think he's like, what could
I possibly accomplish by giving anything sort of incriminating or

(02:05:40):
damning commentary about my guys in front of this microphone?
The answer is zero. I'll never, I'll never, nothing will
ever be accomplished. But I can go in there and
whip the and talk them down to them and yell
at them and try to motivate them differently, I think.
I I don't know if it's a jackal on high,
but I think it's significantly more demonstrative. You can't be
that playing spoken with fifty three grown men in the

(02:06:02):
locker room. I know, of course, I imagine he loses
cool sometimes, But to me, he seems more of like
a positive reinforcement. Let's keep plugging, let's keep getting after it.
So he's Tony Dungee.

Speaker 2 (02:06:15):
Too much?

Speaker 3 (02:06:16):
Maybe I would say, how about Pete Carroll more okay,
more Pete Carroll or more Tony Dungee, I mean, or
one of either of those guys. But he's not gonna
be but he's not. He's not Bill O'Brien, who just
thankfully because what happened to Bill O'Brien is is is
basically what would happen people tune him out. Very Let's

(02:06:37):
go to before we get to email Doka, let's talk
to Steve on seven ninety High.

Speaker 26 (02:06:41):
Steve, Hey, uh, you guys were talking about the Dome.
I think you're overlooking something. What is becoming increasingly more
legal in every state, but it's not yet in Texas.

Speaker 3 (02:06:54):
Gambling, yeah, marijuana, gambling in marijuana. But we talked about
this before, Steve, and again we got as much as
people surprised. We have audience turnover all the time because
people are doing things. My thought is we thought. I
thought was, Steve, if you're gonna build a casino, why
do you want to worry about doing it on the
Masterdom property. You can build a casino in any plot
of land and throughout Southeast sexas you don't have to
worry about doing it at the Dome.

Speaker 26 (02:07:15):
Well, it's a great location. You start building the bars
and restaurants, you have the infrastructure, so when it does
pass through three four years or set up, you have
the sportsbook minimum. Possibly if it's legal roulette, the whole,
the whole casino, and it's perfect. It's right there and
near reliant, good part of town.

Speaker 8 (02:07:32):
No it's not.

Speaker 2 (02:07:33):
It's not a good part of town. That's hard that
what are you talking about. It's not a good part
of town.

Speaker 26 (02:07:37):
Well it used to be. It could be again.

Speaker 2 (02:07:39):
No, Steve, Steve, I.

Speaker 3 (02:07:40):
Could go build a massive casino in Keema and and
have plenty of people come see me. I could have
built a massive casino U in next to Katie Mills
Mall and people would go. You don't need a central
location to put a casino because people will travel to casinos.
I mean, they put a casino in the middle of
Lake Charles, Louisiana. Who the hell would ever go to

(02:08:01):
Lake Charles, Louisiana except to go to casino. Houstonians and
Texans do. That's why I go.

Speaker 2 (02:08:06):
And those are the gambler. I agree, that's good. I'm glad.

Speaker 8 (02:08:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 26 (02:08:11):
And so it's an iconic location. You have the astrodome
and the good use that he preserved both done.

Speaker 2 (02:08:20):
Uh yeah, I just thanks Steve for the call.

Speaker 3 (02:08:22):
I disagree. I don't think you waste if you're a
casino operator. You're not wasting the time of having to chisel.
You're part of this four hundred and fifty thousand square feet.
You want your own casino. You want to be out
there by yourself. You want to be able to have
all your restaurants built. You want to have all your
sports books built. You want your casinos Lazy River. Yeah,
you want, you want resort. You don't need just space

(02:08:43):
right Emanka joins us to start the final hour, The
Matt Thomas showed a matter of moment seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven to one three

Speaker 1 (02:09:48):
Launchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show one o.

Speaker 2 (02:09:53):
Three on Sports Talk seven NINTI.

Speaker 3 (02:09:55):
Our weekly Wednesday visit begins with the head basketball coach
of your Houston Rockets to the Rockets at seven and four.
Take on the Los Angeles Clippers for a matchup tonight,
and they'll also play each other on Friday.

Speaker 2 (02:10:07):
They'll be a part of the in season tournament. Coach
of Doka's with us here on the show.

Speaker 3 (02:10:11):
Coach, thanks for the time, congratulations on the recent good run,
nice streak for the guys. I gotta be honest with you,
and you're not talking about this almost every single night.
You got a couple of guys off your bench, and
I know men started for Fred the today but have
been tremendous spark plugs for your squad. And that's no
surprise to you, but the emergence they've had has been
quite special that so far, this young part of the season.

Speaker 17 (02:10:32):
No, it's good to have guys back healthy. You know,
they both missed some time last year and having those
guys as a tandem coming off the bench freaking have it.
The defensive things that they do obviously have given us.

Speaker 3 (02:10:43):
Ay whose spark does that not necessarily motivate, but just
keep everybody knowing that you may start a game, you
may start a second half, you may be a part
of a fourth quarter, but you're definitely the coach not
afraid to go with the hot hand.

Speaker 2 (02:10:55):
Correct.

Speaker 17 (02:10:57):
Yeah, I mean it's kind of laid that lowdown last
year where we're going to play the guys that play
best and finish the game with those guys. And so
guys understand that it's not about starting as much as
you know who's going to be in there at the end.
And we have a ton of options, a ton of versatility,
and a ton of different guys that have stepped up
at different times, and so we're comfortable, you know, going
fourteen deep with all our guys, and we understand the

(02:11:18):
sacrifice that's going to take every night for a different
guy to step up and lead the team. And I
think we have very capable guys and they've shown that
so far.

Speaker 3 (02:11:25):
So honestly, you know, when most teams shoot the way
we've shot so far this year, where it's been lower
third in the league, you're not supposed to win a
whole lot of those basketball games.

Speaker 2 (02:11:34):
So it becomes the intangible.

Speaker 3 (02:11:35):
So if I told you that this squad was not
shooting as well today as it did maybe a year ago,
at this point, you would say, we're doing these things
to win basketball games. What are the types of things
that you are seeing that are helping you get over
the hump when the team has not been overly hot
from the floor.

Speaker 17 (02:11:50):
Well, first off, we always want to rely on our defense,
and you know, we've been playing pretty good defense overall.
We've had a few quarters where we've given up thirty eight,
but other than that, we've been solid for the most
so we always know when the shots are on fall,
we can rely on the defensive end and still hold
teams down the second part. You know, we emphasize offensive
rebounding this team or this year, and it's not due
to horse shooting. It's just an added bonus that we

(02:12:12):
have some guys that can really do it naturally, and
so we're I think we're second in the league right
now in offensive rebounds. So those extra possessions count well,
especially on with the misshots. But once the shots start
to fall, we defend at the same level, play at
a faster pace, gets some offensive rebounds, will feel like
we'll be a much more complete team. But in the meantime,
until the shots do fall, we can rely on those
things to maintain a winning record.

Speaker 3 (02:12:33):
How much is that the play of the players and
then you guys coaching as far as guys crashing and
telling certain guys to crash for offensive rebounds or telling
some other guys to get back in transition.

Speaker 17 (02:12:44):
No, we've really stressed it. We want to be number
one in offensive rebounds this year. We finished eighth last
year and it wasn't a real emphasis of ours. But
you had Tari back into the mix. Who's naturally great
at it. I'm in, who's there? You gets Steven, you
get out, and those guys that do it well. Jabari
came on last year, so for us, it's really something
that our guys do well already naturally, but we definitely
stress that and our goal is to be number one,

(02:13:05):
and so we're run away from that right now, and
we understand the impact that has on our game, and
we don't say any direct correlation with poor transition defense.
It's almost our first layer of transition defense. Teams don't
want to leak out. They can have to get a
body on the body, and us attacking the glasses has
proven that so far.

Speaker 3 (02:13:20):
Rocket Tech coach Emo Doko, what was here on Sports
Talk seven ninety You mentioned Jabari Smith Junior. The shooting
numbers have not been there, But how are you feeling
about the shots he is taking and working within the
offense and about how you feel about the other aspects
of his play?

Speaker 17 (02:13:35):
Yeah, the shots, I mean, I think him Fred you know,
I think Jayalen been okay. But some guys have been
off to start the season, and we understand those numbers
are going to come back to form eventually, and so
we encourage them to be confident and take the correct
shot and we'll live with the result. But he can
do other things the impact the game. It's not just
relying on a jump shot. He obviously is versatile defensively,

(02:13:55):
but we want him to crash the glass area. He
really improved in last year, get out transition, try to
get himself some easy but so it's just not relying
on jump shots. He still can impact the game in
a ton of ways, playing much small ball five and
put a bunch of guys around him that we're we're
switchable and can do all those things. And so until
the shots comes back around, we want guys to stay confident,
continue to hunt the right shots, and we'll live with

(02:14:16):
the result.

Speaker 3 (02:14:17):
You went with some different guys in the fourth quarter
of some games about a week ten days ago, Alpi
was not out there. Since then, he's put up some
huge numbers, back to back twenty seven point games. Where
have you seen Alpi just in the last two weeks
kind of a step his game up because he's been
it feels like to me, m a pretty much automatic
ten feet inside.

Speaker 17 (02:14:37):
Yeah, I think you know, we didn't get tricked by
the easy miss shots at the start of the season,
Like I said, Fred had missed someone, so he missed
Jalen miss him and then Charlotte Gag specifically. Jabari has
missed him as well, but Alpi was missing point blank
shots that he normally always makes, and so we're going
to take those shots every time. We understand that's going
to come back around, and when it does, he has
these huge games and so he has advantage pretty much

(02:14:58):
every night. We want him to say aggressive and when
he gets in better conditioning gets up and down. He's
a massive problem for every lineup and so that came
to for him the last few games against against New
York and then last game obviously, and he's had a
huge game. So with him, he's never gonna lack of
confidence scoring. He gets the looks that we love and
obviously he's gonna start to put those in as the
season goes.

Speaker 2 (02:15:18):
How's Fred feeling right now?

Speaker 17 (02:15:21):
Fred's okay. He felt good today. He's untested before the game.
But Fred's a warrior that pushes through almost everything, so
you don't expect him to be out long at all.
He can play through some things, high pain tolerance. But
he looked good this morning and to shoot around and
we'll see what he feels like before the game.

Speaker 3 (02:15:35):
Is the hamstring the cruelest part of a basketball players
game that once you heard it and during the course
of the year that you got to do everything you
can to rest. But you guys play three four times
a week, it's hard to have that day or two
to rest.

Speaker 17 (02:15:48):
Yeah, I mean, it depends on the severity of it,
and it seems like it's settled pretty quickly. He felt
some tightness in the Detroit game and so sat out
last game obviously, and sometimes for some guys are quick healers,
and he's back that soon, and so that's where he's trending.
But we'll see how it feels before the game and
obviously severity wasn't that bad words and keep him out
long term and hopefully have him back sooner and later.

Speaker 3 (02:16:09):
Paul George is not a part of the Clippers anymore.
You've had a chance to look at them a little
bit on tape. You'll see them tonight and Friday, a
glimpse of what they have been without him.

Speaker 17 (02:16:18):
A different team led by different guys. Obviously Kawhi Leonards
out as well, but James Harden's gonna do what he
does and Norman Powell's really emerged in that PG role
and so you know, averaging twenty six on the year.
He's a twelve leading scorer in the league and he's
taken advantage of those opportunities. So a guy that's super confident, aggressive,
looking to score, and he's really taken on that scoring
load that's missing with Kawhi and Paul George and so still, guys,

(02:16:42):
you have to worry about Zubox a little more aggressive
in the post this year, and so we'll have our
hands full. Obviously James is going to dictate everything, but
those guys are really looking to be aggressive as well.

Speaker 3 (02:16:51):
You know, Zubots is a guy that's just kind of
under the radar in terms of big, physical guys. But
I kind of look forward to seeing what him and
Alp will do with each other tonight in terms of
competing with each other.

Speaker 17 (02:17:02):
Yeah, they've gone at it over the years. Alp he's
had some really good games against the Clippers. He's one
of the most solid post defenders. So Alp he'll have
his work cut out. But we feel good about oppring
every night against whoever he's guarding him. And so no
different tonight. Like I said, they are posting to the
block up a little bit more and so he'll have
his challenge on that end as well. But yeah, we're
happy with Alpi against everybody, and we'll take advantage of

(02:17:24):
whatever match will be as.

Speaker 2 (02:17:25):
And I'm assuming you were talking about we're talking about
day to day situations. Steven Adams still for you for
at least for foreseeable future, kind of like how he
wakes up and how the schedule looks, that kind of
thing in terms of when he's going to play when
he's not.

Speaker 17 (02:17:37):
Yeah, until he feels one hundred percent normal, you know,
will be cautious with him the shortestants in the game,
but also one day of rest might not be enough
at times, and so anytime we have a chance to
give a few days, he feels much better, and we'll
play it by year and how he feels until he's
one hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (02:17:52):
All right, Thanks for the visitors always. We'll see you
tonight at the Arena of good Luck against the Clips.

Speaker 17 (02:17:56):
I said, thank you, guys, you got it.

Speaker 3 (02:17:57):
That's he may dooka joining us here for his weekly
Wednesday visit on Sports Talk seven ninty one eleven is
our time seven one three two one two five seven
aunty if you want to get in seven one three
two one two five seven, Aunty. I feel, and it's
small uptick that when I listen to you on the
call in show, there are a few more.

Speaker 2 (02:18:17):
People that call in. Yes, I feel there's a little
more buzz on the show.

Speaker 3 (02:18:21):
Again, I'm not trying to oversell anything under any circumstance,
because that's the last thing you want to do is
sort of oversell.

Speaker 2 (02:18:26):
Something and then let people down.

Speaker 8 (02:18:29):
Mm hm.

Speaker 2 (02:18:30):
But a little more energy in the in the arena.

Speaker 3 (02:18:34):
It isn't a foreground conclusion that someone's gonna come in
and score forty five points and beat you now, and
you've the schedule has been pretty easy so far, relatively speaking. Yes,
you're about to get an upgrade little bit with the
Clippers coming up, but I I'm feeling a little bit better.

Speaker 2 (02:18:51):
Good. Really, they only only have what two losses. You
kind of just shake your head out.

Speaker 3 (02:18:56):
The opening night game Agains Charlotte was kind of a
buzz kill, and then losing anything to San Antonio is bad,
but let's face it, san Antonio is better. They're not
gonna win forty games, but they're gonna win probably thirty,
so they've got to beat somebody thirty times. I think
that's bum and slash stiff Victor Wimbinyama. I think he
scored what thirty thirty four the other night. Yeah, he's
just a guy, says some people look and said, and honestly,

(02:19:19):
I hope Victor is just a guy. I hope Victor
continues to fall in love with a three point shot,
because when he does, he's not very good.

Speaker 2 (02:19:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:19:28):
Oh well it was against the Sacramento Kings. Thirty four points,
fourteen rebounds, six assists, three blocks. No tweet from somebody.

Speaker 2 (02:19:41):
You can talk to that somebody in about forty five
minutes if you want to just throw that out there.
That's just you though, that's just me.

Speaker 3 (02:19:48):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven

Matt Thomas returns on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (02:20:50):
This is a perfect song for white people to dance
to a city. When Connor was first cutting his first
rug back in the day Thomas High School, and he's
going to those crossover dances with Saint Angos girls. This
is the song that was on. This song was everywhere
for a year when it came out, Like the Trolls movie.

(02:21:10):
It was on every commercial, it was everywhere. It's a
catchy tone, Oh.

Speaker 3 (02:21:15):
Yeah you again. It's a white person, I can feel
like I could start dancing. Matter of fact, this comes
un during the Rockets game to night. I'll be in
my broadcast spot, I'll get out of my chair and
I may I may dance a little bit. Don't subject
to the public to that. Get on dance camp. I
think I've seen more of your dance moves than anybody
in history. That may be true. And you've never asked
for any repeats. No, I'm not thirsting for more.

Speaker 2 (02:21:42):
Do you think we are like recording artists, go want
to go? This is gonna be really good. I think, yeah,
I'm gonna at Oh my god, we just made a
mega hit.

Speaker 3 (02:21:52):
Yeah, sometimes they can be surprised. But anyways, Matt, why
are we playing this? Justin Timberlake song para tickets to
give away. It's a first winner for today's edition to
Believe or Not one fIF first winner one pair today.
But you cannot enter to play unless you know the password,
like you can't go to the bar s speakeasy like

(02:22:13):
we were in Vegas without knowing the password. And the
password is to play the game today for the last time,
D in a box, d n a box password And
if you're like what does that mean?

Speaker 2 (02:22:24):
Sagat live skit?

Speaker 3 (02:22:25):
Yes, most famously a couple of different occasions with Justin Timberlake.

Speaker 2 (02:22:30):
Who's the other guy was in that? Andy Samberg? It
was Andy Samberg.

Speaker 3 (02:22:33):
Yeah, So at one fifty you will call in for
Believe It or Not and Connor will ask you the
password and you will.

Speaker 2 (02:22:40):
Say D in a box.

Speaker 3 (02:22:44):
Now, Connor, I want you to tell us at the
end of the show today, tally how many people don't
know the password? Okay, And we're gonna start doing the
passwords for all the good prizes we value, all the
prizes will give away.

Speaker 2 (02:22:58):
But so just now, we'll be good for the rest.

Speaker 4 (02:22:59):
Of the here.

Speaker 2 (02:23:02):
So we'll do that again all week and again off it.

Speaker 3 (02:23:03):
Nobody wins today, we'll push push those take us over
to tomorrow. Way two paris So, And today's topic is
about Justin Timberlake, right, yes, okay, uh yeah, I just
finished writing it.

Speaker 7 (02:23:17):
You know that?

Speaker 2 (02:23:18):
Or do that'll put this song on during the Texans
next team meeting. What can't stop the feeling? Yeah? What
get by in better mood?

Speaker 3 (02:23:25):
Because obviously the previous two meetings haven't worked out and
Hannah's gonna bust in there and start dancing like a
Laine Benis. Do you think when Hannah walks in there, like,
oh cool, Hannah's here, they like, what.

Speaker 2 (02:23:38):
Is she doing here?

Speaker 7 (02:23:40):
No?

Speaker 2 (02:23:41):
I think they're like, oh, the boss is here. Everybody's
straightened up, fly right, you got to you gotta clean
your little locker room space.

Speaker 3 (02:23:46):
Yeah mm hmm. When Cow's in there, you're slapping a
kick me sign on his back. When Hannah's in there,
you're straighten up and fly right. Hey, Cow, put your
h's up. I think anybody over the age of fifty
should not be putting up pages. I like smoke sausages.

(02:24:07):
I didn't realize Gump was in there. I'm gonna start
calling your impersonation. Just call it col Gump. What are
you talking about? I think it's dead on and is
not even close, And I continue to tell you how
bad it is. I do not want them to tear
down the Astrodome. I want to go shopping there. We

(02:24:28):
can put a big screen and I can play Grand
Theft Auto.

Speaker 2 (02:24:34):
Stop doing it. It's not good. I'm sorry. I'll stop now.

Speaker 3 (02:24:37):
The key to I told this is the last time
I want to tell you this. Just speed it up
three times as fast. Where do I plug in my
you know, speeding it up, just.

Speaker 4 (02:24:48):
Speed it up.

Speaker 2 (02:24:52):
I I don't know where to go after this. And
I got me an Xbox gift card. I'm getting nothing
but shaken heads. I'm saying, Oh, I didn't know what
to do for the prostitute. Way that again, I just

(02:25:15):
ran over the prostitute? Is that ai?

Speaker 4 (02:25:19):
Or?

Speaker 2 (02:25:19):
Is that is that raw thing? When did you when
did you say that about grand theft? Auto? Oh my god,
I got my money back. All right, I'm sorry, I'll stop.
I'm done.

Speaker 3 (02:25:29):
No, it's not good work on it. I watched her
to work on my impersonations in the shower. Yes, I'm
glad you had to retire one of them. Mill Mosby. No, yeah, Bill,
I have not dropped the Bill Cosby on this show
in a long period of time, and probably ever, we'll
never run it again.

Speaker 2 (02:25:46):
That's a shame, all right.

Speaker 3 (02:25:47):
Seven one three two two five step at ninety seven
one three two one two five seven nine zero. Texans
off today, back on the practice field tomorrow. It's gonna
be strange a Monday night game. This is three straight
primetime games. We were like, damn, look at the Texas
getting all this national runner. I'm almost like me, better
think go back to the news. Let's see dud where C. J.

(02:26:07):
Stroud was running for his life. One of the worst
collapses in franchise, His Tree and the Cowboys, a.

Speaker 2 (02:26:14):
Great national television audition.

Speaker 3 (02:26:17):
Houston Texans, you're doing great. Those uniforms look nice. I
like the battle red. Those are really nice. The battle
red with those helmets and I couldn't even really tell
what the hammet was.

Speaker 2 (02:26:28):
Was it a horn? Yeah, they got the it's got
the Texans toro horn to horn.

Speaker 26 (02:26:35):
I like them.

Speaker 2 (02:26:36):
I like them a lot.

Speaker 3 (02:26:37):
And with the red face mask too. I thought they
were sharp. They were okay, I thought they were spectacular.
They're better than the Atlanta Falcons ripoffs. Oh they're not
Atlanta Falcons, Matt. It's more of a Seahawks font. But
the color is definitely fall with black and white. With
the black and white with red trim, which looks like
the Falcons. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I don't think
they yeah Seattle font with the Atlantic colors. Then things

(02:27:01):
start to get a little easier. That's why maybe it
was the right thing to do to to have a
team meeting. Uh yeah, it sounds like that Nico Collins
is ready to go, and they saved him to preserve
him for the long term, which is probably the right
move as well. So if we did an over under
our Nico Collins yards this week against the Cowboys, if.

Speaker 2 (02:27:23):
I said sixty four, I'd go over. That's probably about
where the line is. Look at you, Matt, Did I
just make that up?

Speaker 4 (02:27:30):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (02:27:30):
It's probably close. I really didn't mean to do that.
I don't even have any idea what it is. Okay,
I'll go look it up.

Speaker 3 (02:27:41):
Nico's back schedule softens up, and I mean this in
awsin Sara and I brought this up a little bit
a couple days ago when we first talked about it.
Seventy point five close, proud of you. If the Texans
win this game, it is feeling better about ourselves. Check
further giving more misery, Dallas Cowboy fan chick love it,

(02:28:04):
furthering your lead in the AFC.

Speaker 2 (02:28:08):
South, Because here's the thing. Anthony Richardson's starting.

Speaker 3 (02:28:12):
Jacksonville is not beating Detroit and Detroit. No, Anthony Richardson
is not gonna well, I don't know they're playing the Jets.
The Jets have already they're a lost coming. Jets suck
even though they crushed the Texans and Tennessee's home from Minnesota.
So I mean there's a chance to even gain more
ground all your opponents in your division, not that it
makes any difference. Conversely, Ross, you lose that game, Cowboy

(02:28:33):
fans are like, it's one of our worst teams in
the last decade and we still beat your ass.

Speaker 15 (02:28:38):
Two.

Speaker 3 (02:28:38):
It's three straight losses in four or five and three
locker room players only meetings just don't matter. So we
are calling this a must win game for the Texans.
I'm glad you thought the exact same thing. I'm telling you, Houston, Texas.
Whether you believe me or not, Monday Night is a

(02:29:02):
must win game. You're ridiculous. You know we should do
We should get the sound effects of me with the
reverb moss must mus must win, must win game. Yeah,
that's all we should do that.

Speaker 2 (02:29:18):
Yeah, it's not good. That was all I've been clipping
underneath circle.

Speaker 15 (02:29:24):
I love it.

Speaker 4 (02:29:25):
Let's go.

Speaker 2 (02:29:27):
You tell me it's not a must win game. It's
not a muscle. The city will will lose its MFN
one not over Well, you lose the Cowboys, the Titans
a couple of times, and the Jaguars.

Speaker 7 (02:29:39):
Move on.

Speaker 2 (02:29:40):
I'm not gonna They're not gonna. They're not gonna halt
the season. No, it's not a must win game. Stop.

Speaker 3 (02:29:45):
Okay, it's important game, you'd like to have it, but
the season goes on. They're not getting eliminated in this game.
They're gonna get eliminated in the second week of the playoffs.
I would say that is the bar right now. Seven
one three two one two five five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven NINTI. We say
hello to the head football coach of the Houston Cougars.

(02:30:06):
Willie Fritz is with us next here on Sports Talk
seven ANTI. After I tell you about affordable tree service,
I want you to make sure your trees are looking

Speaker 8 (02:30:16):

Speaker 2 (02:31:11):
Affordable Tree Service.

Speaker 3 (02:31:22):
Time out for our weekly visit with the head football
coach of your Houston Cougars. Our Cougars are gonna be
on the road this Friday and Tucson, Arizona to take
on the Wildcats. It'll be an eight to fifteen pregame
show on nine fifty KPRC kicktime at nine fifteen, which
means Coach Fritz Willie, you guys can get back to
Houston Saturday morning just enough to cook breakfast with the

(02:31:44):
team about six o'clock in the morning.

Speaker 8 (02:31:45):
It feels like exactly right, it's gonna be a little
bit different game.

Speaker 5 (02:31:50):
We played some late games so far this season, so
this will be another one, but this will be even later.
So we're doing a few things a little different in
terms of when we get up.

Speaker 8 (02:32:01):
Letting the guys go back to sleep in the afternoon.
I'm sure they'll enjoy that.

Speaker 5 (02:32:05):
And they're kind of fixing our h or adjusting our
eating schedule as well too, So it'll be interesting and
we're excited about going out there. I've never played a
game there before. I heard it's really nice stadium and venues.

Speaker 8 (02:32:19):
I'm looking forward to it.

Speaker 3 (02:32:21):
Let me ask you this, and you have been around
and played all different time slots from eleven to nine
o'clock at night, what is the best time to play
a football game on the road and what's the worst?

Speaker 2 (02:32:30):
And maybe does it change for home games too?

Speaker 8 (02:32:34):
Oh, I'll be honest. I like playing early games myself.

Speaker 5 (02:32:39):
Get a little big time off after the ball game
and and things, so you don't have the you know,
anticipation in the game, you know, hanging over you, you know,
all morning, afternoon, at the end of the evening So
that's what I like is it doesn't matter whatever it is,
and they tell us to do well, we'll adjust to
it and to the very best we can.

Speaker 8 (02:32:59):
Look.

Speaker 3 (02:33:00):
You put in your players, do your staff does the
heart and soul of an entire week of play? And
if you win a game or you lose a game,
you're gonna obviously be still, you know, full of emotions.
Is it easy to go to bed after a game?
Do you need an hour to decompressed? Does it make
it a sleepless night? How does the Fritz family, you,
the bride, the kids? What is it like trying to

(02:33:22):
decompress after working so hard for six days to play
that one game on the seventh day?

Speaker 8 (02:33:27):
Well, we usually have to go home watch a little
did TV.

Speaker 5 (02:33:30):
So you know've been watching games and my wife and
I sitting around talk and visit because I I had
had a chance to see you a whole lot, especially
in home games. I stayed in the hotel at home games,
and she stays at the house. So it's good that
we're able to talk and visit for a little while.
And then and then we start, you know, about one

(02:33:51):
o'clock on Sunday, So we have a little bit of time,
you know, on Sunday morning, So that's how we kind
of do.

Speaker 3 (02:33:58):
I'm assuming during this time I had some guys heel
up a little bit. You had a chance to probably
use a coaching staff to get on the road and
do some recruiting. This would be your first in season
run recruiting the state of Texas wearing the University of
Houston gear. What are some observations you've seen so far
from Texas high school football this season?

Speaker 8 (02:34:17):
Oh, it's been great. I went to a game last
Friday night.

Speaker 5 (02:34:21):
I guess I can't save the game I went to,
but want the top games in the state, and it
was really exciting. So I sold that of crowd and
two really good teams, very competitive game, and really enjoyed it.
It kind of after first quarter, I kind of talk
to the guy who standing next to me, I say,
you know, this is why I came back to the

(02:34:41):
state of Texas to see great high school games like this.
And then I went around a few schools on Thursday
and Friday, and so did my staff. So it's fun
to jump in the car and have any direction and
find great football players.

Speaker 3 (02:34:57):
Do you balance on the big scale of things they do?
On a Friday night as compared to what they do
when they come to your camps or you've had a
chance to visit with them. How do you balance that out.

Speaker 8 (02:35:08):
It's fun to watching from the sideline. I'm getting an
opportunity to do that very often, but I need to
see out the interact teammates, you know, and then how
hard they really do play.

Speaker 5 (02:35:20):
You were able to kind of see that a little
bit differently when you're out there, you know, blocking on
the perimeter, I the're receiver. How hard they chase the
ball if they're a defensive player. So yeah, there's a
huge advantage to actually going to games. I've gone to
games before where I was on the fence and I
recruiting the guy, and I said, you know, hey, this

(02:35:41):
is a guy I gotta have a program that I've maybe,
Hey this is a guy I really got to have,
and I've got to watch him playing. Personal, man, I
don't want this guy playing for me. I don't know
if I could get him switch to how we do
things here at the University Houston or wherever I was at.
Got a huge advantage for the games and watching guys
in PERM. Unfortunately, the NA limits you how many games

(02:36:03):
you can go to and you just don't get to
do it very often.

Speaker 3 (02:36:06):
Welly, I know that the off time is good, but man,
the momentum that this program had after beating kansasdate the
way that it did. There had to be a large
secret segment of your guys that wanted to get back
on the football field and play as soon as humanly possible.

Speaker 5 (02:36:21):
You know, we've gone on quite a bit of a
run and we were a little banged up, and I
think it was good for us having the time off.

Speaker 8 (02:36:29):
You know, you got to approach it that way because
that's the way the schedule is anyway.

Speaker 5 (02:36:33):
So we took a little bit of time off, We
practiced a couple of days hard last week, and obviously
we we just pushed everything up today. You know, Sunday,
it was a Monday, Mondays and Tuesday, et cetera leading
up to a Friday night game. So I think the
bye weeks are good, just you know, need to understand,

(02:36:54):
you got a little bit of time.

Speaker 8 (02:36:55):
Off and then you got to crank it back up
when it's time to go to work.

Speaker 3 (02:36:59):
You've got momentum on your side. The team you're playing against,
the Wildcast is not they have not won in a
long period of time. They got blown out by Central
Florida the last time they took the football field. The
one thing I noticed was that they're having a difficult
time rushing the football. So I would think that's, you know,
you want to maintain that as one of the things
for a key for victory of you for you this

(02:37:19):
week is not letting their ground game become a difference maker.

Speaker 8 (02:37:23):
No, you're exactly right.

Speaker 5 (02:37:24):
It's one of the keys to to winning football games.
I was looking at some stats the other day and
you wanted to turn over takeaway and the run battle
and the teams that have done that Division one football.

Speaker 8 (02:37:37):
Of the ballgames, so that status very very important.

Speaker 5 (02:37:43):
We want to do a good job running the football
and do a super job playing leverage and tackling.

Speaker 8 (02:37:48):
Every week, we want to try to make the opposing
team be one dimensional. It was something we did a
good job of our last outing team.

Speaker 5 (02:37:56):
That was averaging I believe over two hundred twenty yards
a game rush and well a little bit eighty two yards,
and you know that was a big reason for the
success that we had. So we've got to do that
against Arizona as well.

Speaker 3 (02:38:08):
And Lastly, I'm going to assume I don't know this
for a fact, but quarterbacks that don't throw any incompletions
usually win their games too, right, I mean, is hi,
I'm gonna do that for you for you again this week.

Speaker 5 (02:38:20):
I guess there hadn't been a quarterback who completed you know,
more than ten and being been one hundred percent.

Speaker 8 (02:38:26):
I don't think that's happened for a little while.

Speaker 5 (02:38:28):
And yeah, he did a great good job of it,
you know, part of that, you know, limiting how many
times through the balls. You know, he was writing pretty
hard during the game, and we kind of found out
that we were able to run it and doing a
good job defensively.

Speaker 8 (02:38:43):
You know, I wanted them to go to the big field.

Speaker 5 (02:38:45):
So every week it's a little bit different, you know,
your path to victory and we'll have to see who
that is, you know, on Friday night.

Speaker 3 (02:38:52):
Great visitors, always coach, Safe travels Arizona. We'll talk again
next week. And thanks for the timing and congratulations. In
the last couple of victories, had been a lot of
funda watch.

Speaker 2 (02:39:01):
Thank you, you got it. We'll see you got it.
That is the head football coach of our Houston Cougars.
Willie Fritz joining us, and he's brought to you by
the Joint Chiropractical, the official chiropractor of University of Houston Athletics. Uh,

Speaker 3 (02:39:17):
Believe it or not, coming up, and we're I'm kind
of nervous how this is going to turn out here,
because you know, we tried to cut out the prize hors.
We have never ever done this before. We eliminated prize horse.
Nobody calls in, then we'll just let the prize horse in.
I think we'll be fine. I think we're gonna be

(02:39:37):
fine too. I think it's a lesson learned. I believe
in our audience. I believe that we've have people that
listen to us for at least more than fifteen minutes.

Speaker 2 (02:39:45):
One waiting already. That's good. He's ready to go.

Speaker 3 (02:39:47):

Speaker 2 (02:39:50):

it today and I know that people are like, I've sorry,
but it's it's a relevant story. There was a new
big proposal today that is largely going to be shot

(02:42:27):
down by anybody involved with the Texans or the Rodeo.
We had our own, Craig Levati, our insider, said, I
was there today. The Texans had no comment. The Rodeo
folks had no comment. They don't care.

Speaker 2 (02:42:42):
That means it ain't happening. That means is this much
ado about nothing?

Speaker 5 (02:42:45):
Then?

Speaker 3 (02:42:46):
Yeah, but I think when you do when you obviously
the Astrodom Conservancy folks said, you know what, we gotta

dollars going to it. If somebody privately wants to go
in and put the building. I'm okay, yeah, what do
you think that's the chances are that? Uh slim and none.
When is anybody said, you know, I'm just gonna buy

it profitable, it would have been done already. Yeah, it's
it's it's basically just again a situation where you are.
This conservancy group is just trying to be relevant and
keep the building alive, which you know what ross As
much as I don't I want it torn down and

(02:44:00):
