Speaker 1 (00:00):
Matt Thomas, Thomas, Ross viver Real is The Matt Thomas
Show with Ross ten O one nh Town. Good morning,
and welcome to a Monday edition of The Matt Thomas
Show with Ross. This his Sports Talk seven ninety All right,
(00:25):
welcome to our house. It's our house, Ross, not just
my house. Yeah, it's the house that's Stevie built.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Let's slow that roll down a little bit. I've never
bought that narrative under any circumstance. Okay, Man, I appreciate
Stevie franchise, but who does it. I mean that that
team was like thirty six and forty six and forty
two and forty. You don't build houses after mid records, right.
The house that Stevie built will house Kevin Durant. It
(00:54):
is held and housed many a star, Dwight Howard, James Harden,
Chris Paul, Joe, Chee, Russell Westbrook. You let me sneak
that one without saying anything. It's fine. All right. Wow,
what an interesting last twenty four hours. For sure, I've
(01:17):
already done like two radio shows I've got after the
show today, I'll be doing this radio show with you
for the next four hours. Wonderful and we will get
to all things obviously. Topic hey today is do the
Texans have enough people in the secondary to take care
of their past defense? Mmm? I think so, Matt. One
of the best secondaries in football they're gonna have, all right?
(01:39):
Is the pass rush? Good enough?
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Seven?
Speaker 1 (01:40):
No stop? Stop? Okay. Kevin Durant is a Houston Rocket.
I want y'all to just sink your teeth into that
for a second. Hey, there you go, perfect, I would say.
And I was asked about I was on a Phoenix
radio show coming to work this morning, because obviously they're
wigging out, how are they doing on? They want to
(02:01):
know a lot about Jayleen Green? Would you tell them?
I said, got better, little by little everything mental improvements
would never be considered a fish and shooter. It's more
high volume, a cusp of being an All star. But yeah,
to have reached it, and uh, you're gonna like him.
(02:21):
And the seven game series against Golden State was not
a great resume builder for him because six of those
seven games he was I mean, he was just show up.
He should have leaked out that he had food poisoning
the whole time or something. I mean, that was just
it was horrible. Some sort of virus, Yeah, like a
I or something. I don't know, you know, some cran
(02:42):
I don't know. I was throwing something out there. Can happen.
I could have said flu, but Jonathan trying to be different.
You know how it is. It can happen. So the
bottom line is this, Uh, the trade that had been
talked about for weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks
and weeks. I knew it had to happen before the draft.
So let me give you what's gonna happen on Wednesday.
I just show you how to screw the NBA is
(03:03):
with their calendar and what you can and cannot do.
The Rockets have the number ten pick and Wednesday's draft
they still do it this point, and they're going to
draft somebody and that person's going to put a Rockets
hat on. But we'll never wear a Rocket uniform, well
at least for the foreseeable future. It'll be a Rudy
Gay Shane Bettier situation. But it is kind of weird
that they would go through all that. Yes, that that
(03:26):
young man's first opportunity, whoever it may be, to put
an NBA hat on to play for a team in
the NBA worked all of his life and the hat
is meaningless. Yeah, well, maybe he'll feel weird about it,
but then he's gonna get a giant check. He'll be
all right and he'll recover quickly. Yes, all right? Do
you want to put the pole question al or do
you want me to do it?
Speaker 4 (03:45):
Well?
Speaker 1 (03:45):
It just Katie thoughts, Katie, how we feeling like? I
did a poll question yesterday at Sports RV and how
is I should I retweet it? Let's see if you want?
I said the Kevin Durantry good for the Rockets, bad
for the Rockets? And isn't it funny? Didn't I tell you?
We did the one last week where it was do
you want Kevin Durant? And it was like sixty percent no?
And I was like, as soon as Kevin Durant is
(04:07):
a Houston Rocket, right, everybody's gonna be like, oh my god,
I can't believe this guy. Eighty two percent good trade.
And it's funny because I was asked about this in
this Phoenix interview that I did like a little half
hour ago. Are you happy that he's there or are
you happy that you didn't give up the future to
get him? There, and I said, it's kind of both.
First of all, you and I were in agreement. Regardless
(04:29):
of age and injuries and whatnot. He wakes up scoring
twenty five points a game. Yeah, he just does. He
immediately helps youre his his He's an efficient two point
shooter for the most part. Okay, as a three point shooter, right,
what would you? What would you? Is it higher than go? Okay,
he's one of the greatest three point shooters all time.
I'm talking about thirty seven year old. I mean, what
(04:49):
has he been the last couple years? I maybe? And
he shot forty three percent from three last year. Then
I love him. He's better than Okay, he was glorious.
It's compared to what it was around here. Come on now,
I mean the Rockets were twenty eighth, twenty ninth or
thirtieth and three point shooting last year. Yes, that didn't change,
uh for his career, he's thirty nine percent last year,
forty three percent the year before, forty one percent. How
(05:11):
many attempts is that per game? Six and five point four? Okay,
so it's not a huge part of his game. I'm
attempts six a game is pretty good. Attempts are makes attempts.
Six attempts isn't isn't crazy? Bit a number that's got
to be probably top twenty in basketball right A game?
(05:32):
Six a game? I don't know. I can go. Look,
that's fine. Point being is this. I'm happy that he's here. Uh,
it's funny that some people have said you gave up
too much. That's not what you didn't give up when
you didn't have to bring Jabari Smith in the table,
when you didn't have to bring Tari East in the table,
when you didn't have to bring up for that matter,
(05:53):
Cam wentmore into the table. Part of me thinks that
Cam can really flourish into this new situation he's in.
Part of me thinks that maybe they still aren't done
with their offseason. What more do you think they would do?
I don't I would say I would sounds like to
me that the Phoenix Houston deal may not be completely done.
They have to get a third team. There is no
(06:15):
there's some like some salary issues, a little bit very
minutia kind of stuff. Okay, that might involve an expiring
contract of some sort or a one year deal left.
Something I don't that I can't tell you that'd be
more for the NBA nerds that can give you that.
But but at its core, the trade was Dylan Brooks
and Jalen Green for you know, one of the top
(06:36):
seventy five players in the league who again downside of
his career, but his downside. Yeah, but if a downside
of a top seventy five player is probably better than
eighty percent of the guys currently in their career, yeah,
I think especially in the case of Kevin Durant, where
his game, especially even last year, not predicated on like
elite athleticism. It's just uh, I mean, I just want
(06:58):
to call him a bucket getter, like he's He's basically
a seven footer who can rise above anybody and shoot
over anybody. And he's when he does and lets it go,
he's one of the greatest shooters of all time. By
the way, yes, six three is a game was I mean,
it was less than I thought. I got sixtieth in
the league around guys like but you know when you
when you said that, Ban, when you said that, to me,
(07:18):
it means that he's a smarter player. He's not just
jacking up shots to take up jack ups. I mean,
the reality is to me, Kevin Durant kills me at
the elbows. Mm hmm. He just and I've called a
lot of Kevin Durant games, obviously not wearing a rocket uniform.
That to me is the fifteen footer, I mean, just
doesn't miss. He's one of the greatest mid range shooters
(07:40):
of all time, if not the greatest, be him, Chris Paul.
I mean that that's where I would start my list. Yeah,
at least, you know, if we're talking about all time're
talking about recent of course. All right, so let me
give you the phone number today and we want you
guys to join us at seven one three two one
two five seven ninety. That's seven one three two one
two five seven nine zero. If you want to follow
(08:01):
us on Twitter, you can follow us there at sports
Empty at sports Harvy and I will retweet as you
still have time for your pole question or where are
you on of that? So what are the numbers right now?
Eighty two percent good trade, eighteen percent said bad. Yes, okay,
And again the number one thing I'm finding that I
it's not about losing Jalen per Se, it's what does
Kevin Durant have left from the tank. Yes, that's what
(08:24):
I don't mean to pay with the broad brush, but
that's what I generally feeling is, why are you trading
for a thirty seven year old who is in the
down part of his NBA career and Jalen Green and
who's probably not going to play back to backs. You're
going to have to load manage where Jalen Green You're
playing for eighty two games, and there is value in that.
The Rockets are not a two seed without Jalen Green
(08:45):
being the leading scorer on that team and playing eighty
two full games, right, Yeah, No, I mean, if anybody
wants to besmirge Jalen Green overall, that's not fair to him.
He's he had a really good Houston Rockets career. The
question is does he ever become a great NBA player?
And I think Phoenix will have to find out about
that if they keep it.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Boy.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
There were a lot of conflicting reports yesterday. Some said
that they were going to spin them off and some
said no, the Rockets, the Sons do not want to
spin them off. They have five two guards. It feels
like unless they put Booker and Green together in the
same back court. Unless Bradley Bual is going on somewhere
else either. There may be a bild situation, but they
got Grayson Allen's over there too. I know ROAs o'neils
on per Se two, but they've got they got a
(09:26):
lot of wing players. As a buddy mine said, if
the Phoenix Suns had a six six six team or less,
they might be the best team in the Nbaby had
like height limits, if it was like weight classes like
in boxing. If they had height limits, they would be
really good. Do you think there's leagues like that? You
could play in the league at six to six and
lot Rockets did in twenty twenty. They're starting Robert Covington
(09:48):
at the five foo and Chuck Call started at the
five way back in the day. Yeah, so let us
know how you feel about the trade. Good bad are indifferent.
I can't imagine you being indifferent to it. But they're
obviously an energy that isn't with this organization that wasn't
here yesterday. And the reality is Miami. The Phoenix Suns
(10:09):
won a lot of their young players who are already
in uniform, and Miami said hell no, Rockets said we'll
give you Jalen Green. Dylan Brooks is a guy valuable
valuable player for this Rocket team the last two years. Again,
hated him when you was wearing somebody else's uniform, you'll
probably hate him as a Phoenix son and started booing
him again. But that young, that guy was a huge
(10:30):
asset of this basketball team. Yes, he was replaceable one.
And the Rockets said, we don't think Jalen Green is
going to be a superstar. Yeah, that's that's the bet
they're making that we need to win now. And as
we said the other day, this is championship or bust, right,
I don't think you just over in the second round
of the series. That's that's the question that was answered.
(10:52):
And that's what we talked about last week. Are the
Rockets going championship or bust? And this is what this
is it. Yes, your Houston Rockets are going championship or bust.
Your thoughts on that. Plus, the Astros get two out
of three, they I don't get a gut feeling win
because they lost the game on Saturday and got their
ass kicked unfortune, I'm sorry, but didn't win the series
and still have a five game lead. We have to
(11:13):
talk about LSU paying off the umpire in the college world,
series game yesterday. Yes, and this is the title tainted.
I say yes, I say that LSU was gifted the
say that, but you just will get to that. But
that Coastal Carolina, poor coach and at first base coach.
They want to throw the water boy up, but they couldn't.
They couldn't find him. Seven one three two one two
(11:35):
five seven ninti seven one three two one two five
seventy please join it. Seven one three two one two
five seven ninti. So Katie is a rocket and the
lines are full already good to see. Ten twenty Sports
Talk seven ninety Ross. It's really matt people. Some people
have gotten into work. Other people are settling in stoners
(11:57):
haven't woken up yet. I will say gen Z.
Speaker 5 (12:01):
And because I graduated over here in Fort Man, Travis,
I have a lot of people not liking the trade.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
Like a lot of why I guess their Jalen Green guys,
Jalen Green fans.
Speaker 5 (12:11):
He's young and like he like bought them out the
slump like they we used to sell like sentimental And
it's a lot of people Mmmm.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
So he was the girlfriend that was with you when
you had no job and then as soon as you
got like a nice apartment and a nice car. Then
they traded them, traded them away. It's like basically you
could actually elevate at one level. Said that's your first wife. Mm,
and then you go find you make a lot of money,
and you go find a Trumphy wife who's younger and
uh huh, well older, No, you find a younger wife
(12:40):
and Kevin Drant's old though, Yeah, that's true. Well you
go for a cougar, I guess with a lot of
money and experience and fakies don't. The analogy doesn't work.
We'll we work it next segment. We got time to
fix out analogy. Oh we had four hours? Well yeah, sir,
we're here for four hours. We're not gonna go anywhere
and at least until they pull us off there on
(13:00):
three two, one, two five seven outie, just your gut feeling,
your gut, your initial thoughts, not necessarily gut feeling, but reaction,
gut reaction. My gut reaction is I'm kind of still
kind of stunned. I still can't believe, even even saying
it out loud, Kevin Duran is a Houston rocket. It's
it's not processing for me. I really really really thought
San Antoanilo was gonna pull the trigger. I thought they
(13:21):
were thinking, all right, we've had back to back rookies
of the year. We need a veteran guy. We got
a nice core around him. I thought they would have
given up. Maybe they were they want to hold onto
that second draft pick, and Phoenix said we've got to
take it from you, and they said no. Miami apparently
had Haimi, Hakkez and all these different guys out there,
their young team khalil Ware. Miami's like, no, you can't
have these guys. Sometimes you have to say, what do
(13:44):
you want to give up? And if you continue to
make that same phone call to Phoenix in San Antonio
that keeps saying no, no, no, you got to go,
somebody says, well, here's what we have. Five second round picks.
Does crack me up a little. It's pretty funny. Mine's
throwing six maybe seven. Yeah. So Base the Rocket's second
day draft party is going to be minimal the next
half dozen years. I would think so, although I did
(14:06):
read somebody say I think it was it's like four
or five of the thunder rotational players our second round picks.
Sam Presty has been finding something to say. Cason Wallace
is one of those guys made Hendrich Williams seems like
a second rounder to me. Oh yeah, there are second
round guys littered throughout the league. Was I mean, was
(14:27):
Isaiah hart and Son even drafted yesterday when he was
out of college? I don't know Rockets legend Isaiah Hartenstein,
lou Dort, did you see his son yesterday? Whose son
Isaiah Harton Steins? Yes? Falling asleep at the game. That
was funny. It was one of the most adorable things
I've ever seen in my life. He wasn't sleeping. He
was like in a deep rim, like I don't care
(14:50):
if eighteen thousand people are yelling, I need to get
my night night time. And he was laying on dad's lap,
on his shoulder and just zonked out. You gotta respect it.
The little man was sleepy. Yeah. Probably the smallest hart
and sign jers you can find in the city greater
Oklahoma City area. So we will get to a little
bit of the NBA Finals from last night, and but
(15:11):
again today is about mostly about Durant. It's about the
Astros winning two out of three, holding a five game lead.
Dana Brown giving us more intel about basically they need
a left handed bat in the worst way, which they
obviously took care of today yesterday with John Singleton signing
a minor league deal. Oh, they took care of today
as well with Taylor Troummel. Troummeel, not Trammel Trammeell. Trying
(15:37):
to say it for myself to so I can remind
myself that's fine. Tremmell is correct because we interviewed and
we asked him, Taylor Tremmell getting called up he's a
lefty bat, and Shay Wickham sent back down, who they
clearly don't think is that great. She's like, do I
get mileage back and forth and fifty nine between downtown
Houston and sugar Land. He should get something every time
(16:00):
you get optioned in the major leagues, you should get
like some kind of gift basket or something. Well, I
just feel terrible that you know, not only you're going
from climate controlled comfort, minute chartered planes, nice hotels, yeah,
to sugar Lane where you're going to mc mullay and
mcmlay's fine, it's fine, but it's different than going that
(16:21):
nice square over there with those restaurants and stuff. Yeah,
I mean, it's a nice ballpark, but it's outdoors. It's
June twenty third. Yeah, they can't be fun at all.
But you know what she's accruing service time? He just
is that's true. So yeah, Taylor uh Wickham sent down,
(16:41):
Taylor tremil Is sent up left handed bat outfielder. And
by the way, should the Astros retired John Singleton's number?
I mean for many years he's been here. Maybe the
Space Cowboys can that's true. I can slug at the
Triple A level. Oh yeah, Actually the Mets didn't think
so much. No, they do. So I don't know what
he was doing. I can pull it. I want to
find his numbers eventually. That sounds like a top priority
(17:02):
at this point. All right, So the starting five next year?
A men and Fredd of your guards? Oh okay, this
is an interesting discussion because I saw Adam Wexer arguing
with not arguing, but just talking to people about it.
Go ahead, I'm just I'm presuming here, Okay, Fred and
a man in your back court? Mm hmm. Durant and
(17:24):
Jabbari an opera? Right, is that your starting five? Wars
the debate point. I'm curious. I believe wex had Cam Whitmore,
which I don't think is gonna happen, but it makes
sense positionally, but I don't think it makes sense with
the way that Udoka feels about Cam Whitmore. Now the
light bulb can turn bright for Cam Whitmore. First of all,
(17:46):
two things have to happen. One, he's got to stay here.
So if he's not being moved in another trade or
some sort, because again you don't, you can also make
other trades happen. You can also include things in if
it helps out with some salary situations. But number two,
he's got he's he's got to buy into what he
may want. And I feel like, and again nobody's come
to me and said Matt the reason why we're not
playing cams because he doesn't care about defense. I think
(18:08):
if you watch him play that defense is not a
huge priority to him. And if he man Doaku's your
head basketball coach. You can jack up all the shots
you want. You can wake up and score twenty one
points a game, but if for giving up twenty four,
you're not going to play. And the Rocket's still with
raphel ston't look just like every of the thirty NBA
teams have analytics about how you do on both ends
(18:30):
of the floor, and obviously the numbers on the defensive
side and the spacing are so bad that he just
can't crack it. Didn't crack the rotation the last couple
of years. I got a sneaky one for you. Oh
please Tarry Ethan. Depending on leg health. You've got ball handlers,
you've got shooters. He is three point shot. I mean,
(18:54):
it has been up and down in his career, but
I think overall it's been good. I have to look
it up, but he's been around thirty five thirty a
thirty six percent. And and you need somebody who is
a good switchable defender. With Kevin Durant out on the court,
you need as much defense as you could possibly get.
And and the only thing is that with Jabari Smith
(19:15):
out there, you could, I mean potentially run into some
matchup issues where you need some guys who can be
more wing defenders. If it's Shingoon, Durant and Jabbari, that's
you're really tall and you've got a lot of length.
But if the opposing team is only playing one big,
we're going small. You're that's gonna be a tough defensive lineup,
(19:36):
and it makes, it makes, But Tari is not tiny,
but he's just he's His spacing is a lot better
than maybe, uh, what would you say, I mean, professor good? Yeah,
I like Jabari too, but I think Tari's would be
a little bit better as a as a wing defender. Jabari
can guard one through five. See, I kind of like
he could hold his own, but it's not like he's
going to be locked down. I kind of like Tari
(19:57):
off the bench just because it's that offensive rebound, second
chance opportunity, a little bit of moxie coming off that bench.
I'm in this second group. And then tell you this
it could be matchup dependent. That's true. Yeah, I honestly,
you can't fight it either way. Let's see if Kim
went Moore buys in, how about giving how about Kim
(20:19):
Wentmore being a fifteen point per game off the bench? Guy?
Yeah if if, yes, if if he can mature something.
Tarry shot thirty six percent from three his second year
last but then last year he was back down to
thirty four point two percent, So career thirty four and
a half percent. All right, so let me ask you this,
(20:40):
how much how much do you value who's who in
your mind? Is a better score Easan or Jabbari jib?
I think, yeah, if if guys are going to the
bench and you want somebody to come off and score,
Tari is more of a uh like a fast break score.
But Jabbari in a half court maybe a little bit better.
But with the I mean he's got a limited bag.
(21:02):
As the kids would say, he's got this. How about that?
Make this a little early got feeling for tomorrow. One
of those two guys takes a significant leap in scoring
next year, that'd be huge target. You kind of needed
to Hary average twelve points per game in fifty seven games.
That's that's good, that's significant. Yeah, you wouldn't want much
more than that from him. Yeah, twelve points per game
(21:24):
in twenty five minutes per game. That's great for Tari. Yeah. Yeah,
I think Jabbari probably got not forgotten about. But when
a men took over that starting spot kind of was like,
how's Jabar doing? And then when Jabari would come in
there was a little bit of gas to him's game. Yeah.
I like him both. Yeah, all right, ten thirty on
Sports Talk seven ninety. If you like to chime in again.
(21:45):
Lions are completely jammed at this point seven to one
to three to two. We are not their wide open match. Okay,
you want people to get in there are Actually we
don't have a single person and that's that upsets me
because I think we do have listeners, right, it does
upset Matt. If you want Matt to feel a little
bit better, anyone talks some Rockets. How are you feeling
about Kevin Durant being a Houston Rocket?
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Baby?
Speaker 1 (22:02):
Yeah, this is a super big time move. And don't
we want our local teams, whether the Texans, the Astros,
or Rockets, to make super big time moobs. Rockets are
swinging for the fences. I like it. I don't mind
being busy at this time of year me either. And
you know you can come with me the NBA finals.
You stay, were going to the finals?
Speaker 6 (22:24):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (22:24):
Yeah, I'm a rob Cott saving this audio as god
as my win is. If we're going to the final
Western you know, Western Finals or more. You're trying to
a fair two two one one one a little tough.
We need two three to two. Back three to two
makes it a little easier. Two two one one. You
hope you enjoying those two games because they haven't send
you back for a single game. Ten thirty on Sports
(22:45):
Talk seven, Didi kind of a black Game seven last night,
a horrific ending to Tyrese Haliburton season. Not only does
his team lose in a Game seven, but he ruptures
the Achilles. And that's that's a year recovery, right. Oh yeah,
he's probably all gone all of next year. So that
(23:06):
we talked about this at the end of last week.
The calf strain we brought up, brought it up with
Kevin Durant. I saw on Twitter. If you have a
calf strain, don't play, just sit out for weeks. The
calf strain and the achille, Yeah, they're they're interconnected. They're twice.
So it's this year it's Lillard Kyrie. Kyrie was a
(23:27):
cl Okay Lillard, Tatum, Tatum, Halliburton, Halliburton, and somebody noticed
that all wear the jersey number zero. Man didn't know
about what is happening. It happened in threes with the
jersey number zero. Conspiracy And another thing I noticed on
Twitter yesterday. We're done with Stephen A. Smith and Kendrick
(23:50):
Perkins yelling at each other on pre and post game shows.
Oh that's a shame. I've never seen a collective basketball universe.
So happy for inside the NBA going to ABC ESPN
next year because they'll have them the shows and Kenny
and excuse me and uh Ernie Johnson won't let it
get out of control like that hot mess of a
studio set was yesterday. Yeah, they're still gonna be yelling.
(24:12):
At least, it's just gonna be more entertaining. Yeah, when
Shack and Chuck yell at each other. The analysis isn't
getting any better, but it's gonna be funnier and you
can put them on like ESPN U and just Steven
A get to do your show. Yeah, yeah, it's And
I'm not a big pregame guy, but I turned it
on because I was like, there was nothing else going on.
I mean, we saw that Coastal Carolina got screwed to
(24:34):
winning the World Series because LSU paid them off. Yes,
Astros had been done and they were up and they
won eight seven, but I was like, I need something
I need. I'm kind of in the because I was
in Basketball Move yesterday. I want to hear what some
of the experts had to say. And all they did
was yell, yell, yell, yell. It wasn't fun. You know,
like there's funny yelling sometimes. I feel like we do
(24:55):
a pretty good job of funny yelling here occasionally. Yeah. No,
well sometimes you and I yell at each other, but
you know it's authentic. We don't do it for four
straight out. If it were Steven A and Kendrick Perkins,
it'd be four straight hours. It's like we got to
relax some Yeah. They're always looking to make a moment
that will go viral on their social media and they're
trying to do it at all times, and as you say,
(25:16):
it becomes inauthentic and it's just tired. I'm just tired
of it. Yeah, I think I think America is tired
of it. I think I can't. I mean, Kendrick and
Perkins to me, isn't. I mean, I don't believe half
things he says. But he's got the Southern accent and
the draw and whatnot. It's from Beaumont, Texas. It's not
(25:39):
the worst thing, but him and Steve and A together
it was just a hot mess and it was uninteresting
and hard to watch. And Bob Meyer's the former GM's
up there, Malik Andrews got you know, bless her soul.
I mean, it just could not control it. It's just
a mess. But Kendrick Perkins, I mean, I don't know.
I think he's one of the worst in that lists
(26:00):
on on in sports on TV. He flipped almost every
single thing I'm saying, when like I would, I would
be locking down Jokic and then they play video of
Rookie Yokics cooking him. I mean it was ridiculous. Yeah,
it was not good. Let's go to some phones to
talk to people. We'll start with Aggie dug at ten
thirty nine. Congratulations on your SEC team, the LSU Tigers.
(26:23):
What SEC SEC went in the College World Series eighty?
What do you got today?
Speaker 2 (26:28):
Oh, Aggie's doing teer for Tigers or Longhorns, no matter
what conference they're in. So that's just always the thing
I understood. But guys, so everybody's killing us right now.
And Jonathan's right, there's a lot of people that are
younger people that are saying the Rockets got screwed. We
got three starters for KD you know, y'all. You know,
(26:50):
so this is the way I look at it. It's
basically a green for KD swap because you don't know
what's gonna happen with Dylan Brooks next year, and also
you know what's going to happen with this tenth pick worse.
I mean, best case scenario, Cooper Flag somehow falls to
the tenth pick, and then now all of a sudden,
it's not a good trade. That's not going to happen.
(27:11):
So let's move on from there. Dude, I was just
digging in a little bit to what KD has done
over his career. The dude averages over thirty seven minutes.
He averages over.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
Fifty percent from the.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
Field, he averages over forty percent from three point, he
averages over five assists a game. He averages over seven
rebounds a game. Like, what is anybody complaining about? I mean,
the dude plays thirty six minutes a game on average. Hell,
if we just get thirty minutes out of him, he's
still a superstar for us.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
Correct, He'd be a super star for anybody. The reality
is eighty there are going to be some fans of
any player that are going to say you got rid
of them one year or too early, or you didn't
give him a second chance to rebound him. And look,
there are moments that Jayalen Green was the best player
in the basketball court. We just didn't see enough of it.
I think to satisfy the Rockets for putting the ball
(28:07):
in his hands and saying go win us a game.
Six out of the seven first round series games against
Golden State hurt really damaged his reputation. Fairly or not,
It just did.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
Well it should because obviously, you know, they were double
teaming him, and any smart player is going to be
able to find the open guy. Jala just couldn't find
the open guy he played. I mean, he was almost
in like a panic whenever they would send two and
three guys. I mean, Kd's had this happen to him
his whole career, so he knows exactly who's open. So
I think that's the That's the other thing that the
Rockets get is that they get the experience of a
(28:42):
Hall of famer, a guy with the ring, somebody that
I mean, obviously Freddy's got a ring too, but I
mean this is somebody that you know, I'm in and
and Tari Easton, those.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
Guys can can start to, you know.
Speaker 2 (28:53):
Adapt their game around I mean, because there's the same
body type, so you got basically three kd's on the
court at one time, and Ross if we're we're talking
to starting lineup, that's exactly who I.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
Would go with.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
I would go with with Van Fleet, I would go
with im and Thompson. I would go with Katie at
the three. I would go with uh Tarry Easton at
the four. And then obviously saying goun but think about
your second team, guys. That's what I'm so excited about.
You got Reed Shepherd, you got Cam Whitmore, you got
Jabari Smith, you got Steven Adams, and then whoever.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
You want to throw in there, who's.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
Who's playing well at that point.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
I mean, that is a solid eight, possibly even a
damn good.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
Not that could be nine. If Cam Wentmore is a
part of the Max, it's nine. It's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
I mean, I'm telling you, I'm telling you guys, it's
going to be stupid.
Speaker 4 (29:39):
For the Rockets last year.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
I mean this year, because of the fact that everybody
got so excited about last year and they're just going
to floor it past the last last year's team this
this next year.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
I had no idea what's.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
Going to happen with Katie in the future.
Speaker 4 (29:52):
But this next year is going to be a damn
good ride.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
Thanks Adie for the phone call. It's nine. If it's
if Cam went mart of the Max right, yes, and
if well reach first of all world presuming that Ring Shepherd,
I mean, Reid's got to take a size. I mean
Cam and Reid with those guys not being a part
of the trade, that's a huge side to say, hey,
we think you can crack our rotation. And in fact,
(30:15):
in Reed's case, Reid needs to crack this rotation. This
team needs better perimeter shooting. I'm concerned about Read Shepherd
for sure. I am. I'm gonna go in complete, and
I would do that even if I wasn't announcer for
the team. I think one year is way too early
to make a decision on that. Yeah, I'm saying I
want to see some more and I'm concerned. I didn't
say his career is over. That would suck. If it's
(30:37):
the third pick in the NBA draft. Can't crack a
rotation his second year, well, they said it was one
of the worst drafts in best Boy, they did, that's true.
Under five points per game he played fifty two games.
A lot of that was, of course garbage time. Yeah,
I would of those. How many meaningful minutes he probably
have in you? Probably meaningful minutes and forty of them
(30:59):
well and Thomson got meaningful minutes as a rookie. Jalen
Green got meaningful mixes at a rookie. Can I be
bullish on cam An every Shepherd if you want to
be I you know I need him to be because
that because they loved him Ross, They absolutely loved him.
He's young, he's only twenty years old, got a wispy stash,
(31:22):
gonna get every twenty one tomorrow. Actually, let's get as
they read, you know, I'll get them a gift. You
get stay in Houston. I'm not gonna get him a gift.
He's me like twelve million dollars last Share them all right?
Seven one three two one two five seven seven one
three two one two five seven nine zero ten fifty one.
Matt Thomas Show with Ross. I'm concerned about something. Ross,
(31:45):
Mike Greenberg, and Steven A. Smith think their Katie trade
is unbelievably good for the Rockets and their instant title
contenders were screwed. Oh god, oh well out in the
first round again, gonna buzz kill. This is gonna be
Oh dear, I don't need I don't need those guys
on our side. Well, they probably both picked the Thunder
(32:06):
to win the championship and they did. By the way,
now there's not something wrong. But I don't respect those guys.
But they're support the trade. But I don't respect those
guys like I cannot wait for steven A. Smith to
nominate himself to declare his president campaign for presidency because
he's not gonna he is going to get worn out
to You think sports fans are bad, imagine that people
(32:29):
who don't know Steven A. Smith knows when they start
talking about politics. No way, no how put my name
on for president's I just told you that. Okay, Okay,
thank god? Really really happy about that? All right? What
was I gonna say?
Speaker 7 (32:48):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (32:48):
I don't know. Yeah, I don't need to. Who do
I trust? I like Tim Legler from ESPN. Okay, I'm
trying to think who also would be out there are
NBA minds that I really go. Man, I learned something
from that guy. Al Right, it makes a lot of sense.
As Huby Brown heard the news, Yet did he hit
the newspapers, sop as you didn't say did he hear
(33:12):
about it from when he was in the home getting
the Western Union Telegram? Stop your QB Brown hate. It's
just that's not true. I love you, B Brown. I'm
just wondering if he's heard yet. Gosh O money just terrible?
All right? Seven one three two one two five seven nine.
If you want to get in, we'll get to some
astros chatter come up at the top of the hour.
They did win a series against the Halos. I took
(33:34):
calls on Friday's Slash Saturday Morning tenth ending show at
to one o'clock in the morning. Yeah, I heard that.
I mean I wasn't listening. There's no chance listen. I know,
I know you better than that. I actually turned it
on for like two minutes. Yeah, I'm curious if you
were getting called. I probably had at least ten calls. Now,
granted they had a loss that had zero day drunks
were there, I mean night drugs. It wasn't bad. Actually,
(33:55):
I was actually pretty pleased. That's good. I want to
say that wasn't a dumb call in the mix. Yeah,
people love Matt Thomas. In the post game show but
you know what, they they love that I give the
effort unlike others. Yes, attendance is part of the grade.
It is Dan On seven ninety and ten fifty four, Dan,
good morning.
Speaker 8 (34:14):
Good morning, Matt. You got the best show out there.
I love to hear you every day.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
Well, that's nice you to say that. Please include Ross.
He's awesome too. Oh thank you. Well, of course, of
course Ross has included. There you go, it's what you
got today. I'm I'm so.
Speaker 8 (34:30):
I don't think that the five second round draft picks
is that big of a deal. I'm not even sure
about the I think it was the tenth, the tenth
pick in this round. I guess my biggest concern for
the Rockets, regardless of getting KD or not, was it
(34:52):
seems like the this is the I've been watching the
NBA and the finals for oh gosh, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
I'm fifty.
Speaker 8 (35:02):
I've been watching it since I was eight or nine
years old. I've never seen a finals ever where teams
pressed non stop and had such stifling defense. And I'm
curious what your thoughts are because it seems like if
Oklahoma City remains in the mix, which there's no reason
(35:24):
to guess that they're not if we're gonna be able
to get past that press, which is so impressive because
you just don't see that in pro ball. And even
if we can, I think a lot of hays made
in the half court. And I just wanted to get
(35:46):
your thoughts on, well, really their defense compared to our
offense and then our defense compared to their offense.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
Yeah, I think Dan, thank you for the phone call,
the nice words. I think the model is Oklahoma City.
I think a men Thompson can do that. I think
Jabari Smith to a le can do that. It's not
like Isaiah Hartenstein is a terrific rim defender. Chet Holker's
block a lot of shots. But you can. But you
can still bully your way past chen Holme. Great, yeah
you can. You can pick on them. But yeah, even
(36:16):
if you get past him, he can recover and he
with his lengthened block shots. I mean, look there, they're
the best defensive team in basketball and there there was
a lot of a ball pressure. And the reason they
do that first of all, Yeah, they do get some
turnovers out of it, not a whole lot. Most of
it is last night, it was terrible passing lanes. But
also it's you know, you spend seven, eight, ten seconds
(36:37):
getting past all that, and then you compresses the amount
of time you have and then you're talking about great
on ball, the switchable defenders that they have with Oklahoma City.
So yeah, it's gonna be tough. General Williams to play
Caruso gives it a really strong, workman like effort. Yeah,
they are the they are the dragon ort that that
rafel Stone is has to build a team to try
(36:58):
and slay unfortunate And the problem is, and we've talked
about this in Lauseum, it's not just them, it's it's
I mean, what is Luke and Lebron gonna be like
next year? Will the Wolves do something? Will the Spurs
take the Super League? Well, win's Denver gonna go away?
That never is not as long as Nickel LOOKI unless
he gets an injury in his horse barn. But just
(37:19):
to show you, the Rockets are the fourth fau we say,
fourth light most likely team to win the NBA Championship
mixt year. Yes, according to Vegas, Yeah, the thunder are
the favorite at nine to four. Basically two and a
half is to one. Right, Cleveland and New York are
(37:40):
basically eight to one. Rockets are nine to one. I
meaning you put down ten bucks, you get ninety champions.
Not that Vegas. The term is everything they don't. But
Vegas has leap frog the Rockets over the Lakers, over
the Wolves, who have been in the back to back
Western Finals. You don't know what's gonna happen with Dallas. Obviously,
the leap frog the Denver Nuggets and championship odds are
(38:02):
greatly influenced by recency bias as well. So this trade
just happens, so they lower the Rockets odds. Yeah, that's fair,
that's fair. All right, we'll talk to Case. I hadn't
tald to Kese in a while. We'll talk to him
coming up the top of the hour. We don't name
our listeners after side dishes, but not normally. I mean,
if if your name is if your nickname is sour Cream,
come on in and be a part of the program. Okay,
if you're salsa, you're more spinach dip. I don't know
(38:23):
who has everybody called themselves spinach dip? Okay, yeah, well
this one girl we knew in college. Really, how'd you
get the nickname? Oh? No, off Air seven one three
two one two see Jonathan he won't tell stuff on air,
The Girl Spinach Dip seven one three two one two
(38:46):

the X platform, you may do so at Sports MT
at Sports r V eleven O three, Sports Talk seven
ninety It is the Matt top Much Show. At Ross
we thank you for being a part of our show
for the first hour. We've got three more left to go.
If you left the first sixty minutes, you're gonna love
the next one eighty. Ryan ROSSI. All we're gonna do
(39:08):
is talk about good things. Rockets make a huge trade.
The Astros win a series two games to one over
the Anaheimer's and they have a five game lead going
into a much more competitive week with the Phillies and
the Chicago Cubs Boo ramping up and the Kyle Tucker
Reuni Measuring Stick series. Yeah, Kyle Tucker, We'll see. Yeah.
(39:32):
Astra's the day off and Phillies will be a three
game series Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and then Kyle Tucker's Big
to Do Friday at UH for the Game of the
Chicago Cubs. I do like the fact that everybody in
baseball plays everybody. I just think it's it's fun. It
makes it more balanced, not completely balanced. Let's playing the Cubs. Yeah,
(39:53):
I don't miss Astros having to play at Wrigley Well,
he said, I was always worried somebody's gonna get hurt
on that ivy out there. But the Cubs play names there,
I know, just scares me. You've been a game of
Wrigley Yes, yeah, it's very nice, really really cool. Really
I love the in neighborhood setting. You're like across there's
(40:16):
bars and red Wrigleyville is Reallyville is the best. It's
gotten very commercialized in the last decade, but still holds
its neighborhood charm for the most part. Go to coaches.
They got the Goose Island Brewery down there, right off
the Red Line. It's you hop off the red line
and you're in Wrigleyville. It's so cool. So my my
oldest is twenty five, just turned twenty five last week,
and when he was in the fifth grade, he and
(40:37):
I did a dad's trip. We went from Minneapolis to
Chicago see the Twins by the Cubs, and that was
during interleague playing. Didn't play everybody that far? Is that
a driver a quick flight? It's a long driver or
a quick flight. So we flew there and we did
the subway thing and the whole thing, and as soon
as we get home. We lived in Saint Paul from
the airport, which is close, and Cam walks in and
(40:57):
the house in Kim says, well, how was your tribute
to Dad? It was great? It was great dad. I
had a great time. Dad had a couple of old styles. Yeah,
he snitched on you immediately. I'm like, son, First of all,
why you snitch you? Number two one in Rome? Yeah, exactly,
when you're in Chicago. I drank Yeah it's not a
great tasting beer. No, it's terrible. I had, but you
have to drink it. Yeah. That's the first thing we
(41:19):
did when we got there is we stocked up the
fridge at the airbnb with some old style. Yeah. Again,
what will be the text equivalent? It was lone Star. Yeah,
it's probably yeah, it's lone Star. I was drinking lone
Star this weekend, baby, did you? Yes? I did ice
cold and refreshing. It is good. I haven't tried it yet.
It's fine. Yeah. Look, this is the thing though. Most
beers in most places in Houston only charge you three
(41:41):
four bucks for a lone star. I'm just saying, you
balling on a budget, get you some lone stars. So
that is good. Okay, So let's go to the five
budget beers. You ready, pbr Okay, lone star, lone Star,
bush Light, bush Light, Keystone Light. Yes, what's the fifth one?
Speaker 9 (42:00):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (42:00):
Did you say natural Light? Natty Light? Oh? Yeah, god,
Natty Light. It's Natty Light I had. Yeah, it's bad.
That's some lone stars to go too cheap. If you're
looking at I always say this, and I don't want
to present any more comment beyond this, you gonna lose weight,
drink a six pack and any light. H Okay, it's
like an epicac Yes, I'm context cooling that very much.
(42:24):
So all right, uh, astros. When we'll get more to that.
John Singleton's now back in the organization. There's that lieutenant
that we were looking for him, Taylor Tremmelle career ops
is six thirty three time. My Brandon Lowell coming here.
Unless the rays fall off the map? Wow, yes, uh
probably yeah, I would agree with that. Why I mean again, look,
(42:44):
the Rays are well, the Rays are always looking at
Say that's true, but do you think that wouldn't it
be in a horrific vibe of the new ownership group
if this new owner is trying to make good will
and figure out to get a stadium, whether it be
in Tampa, Orlando, in Jacksonville, and all of a sudden
he finds out the grape vine that the general manager,
(43:05):
the guy's trying to uh keep his job, trade off
brandle out the trade deadline. Rays are always looking to sell,
even when they're contending, Eh, we got the best ring
in American Like, oh, we could still have the best record.
Get rid of a decent hitting left handed bat, gets
a couple pitching prospects, they'll turn into good pictures, all right?
Seven one three, two one two five seven ninety KSO
(43:27):
is with us at eleven oh seven. CASEA, how the
heck are you being? Hey?
Speaker 7 (43:31):
I'm good man. Hey, I work at U of Age.
It's always terrible to give you guys a call, but
I listened to you guys regardless. So I just felt
like I had to call in about the KD trade.
I think it's a good move, not a great move.
A great move would be like getting the Honest or
Jalen Brown, I guess, but it definitely helps the team.
(43:51):
But the most important thing about this trade was they
didn't mortgage their future, so I know the guys are
still really really young.
Speaker 1 (44:01):
KTI is going to help them.
Speaker 7 (44:02):
With that if the KD era doesn't work out. I
still think the Rockets are set up for the post
KD era with their young guys. And you know, they
didn't even give up that twenty seven pick to the Sun,
so they're in a really good position. So on that aspect,
it turns into.
Speaker 1 (44:20):
A really great move.
Speaker 7 (44:22):
I just hope that the young guys are ready to
move and get working with Katie. I just don't know
if there's another trade coming, but I'm really happy with
this roster, and I don't know if you guys would
think about adding another player or what do you guys
think about. You know, they still have AMMO to work.
Speaker 1 (44:43):
On other trades or even past the KD era, they
have plenty a draft capital. Their young players are not
granted kt is gonna put them over the luxury tax
shng goon is a is an affordable contract. If you
said in a couple years that Apurn wasn't taking the
necessary steps to become the elite player. But there's still
(45:05):
loaded with draft picks through a variety of trades. So
and that seems to be a huge isn't exchange? We
kind of make fun of the NBA draft ross, But
yet the Phoenix Suns needed five second round picks to
make this happen. Yeah, I don't remember team like Kary
the City, Oklahoma City's got four first rounders. What in
(45:28):
the next couple of years. Yeah, I mean they're filthy
full of first round picks. Well, they got to do something.
I mean, you can only get fifteen on the roster. Well,
here's part of it is that some teams need that capital,
that draft capital. Case, we thank you for the call,
because you can't acquire for agents. I don't think that's
gonna be an issue here. I think Imadoka is very
well respected around the league. I think the Rockets have
(45:49):
shown they're going to go over this first round of
the apron. Maybe you do it in subsequent years.
Speaker 7 (45:53):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (45:54):
They've not been afraid, even with Timan running the team,
to go out and get stars. So uh, I don't
necessar think you need as much draft capital now you
got rid of your draft capital when Darryl was Daryl
Moore was running things, and all of a sudden you
ran into a trouble. You got you kept your draft
capitol and you were able to get it with Jabbari
and Jalen and A Men Thompson and Read Shepherd or whatnot.
(46:14):
So it's kind of a nice delicate mix right now
going up with the Rockets. So I would say this,
I believe Rafelstone values the draft more than Daryl Morey
ever did. But sometimes you got a hold out of
those picks in order to go get that veteran player,
especially the coach says, hey, I hear this guy wants
to go and leave, like Jalen Brown may want to
leave any season or so things in Boston implode. Maybe
(46:35):
Jen Jalen Brown and he made Oak and worked together
in Boston win the Eastern Conference together. Just throw that
out there, that would make a lot of sense. Yeah,
it just depends, and there's there there's a ton of
flexibility moving forward for the Rockets, and you only had
to give up the tenth pick, which again I don't
know who the tenth pick's going to be, but my
(46:56):
guess is with this team as loaded as it was,
even if Durant wasn't here, it was gonna time crackling rotation.
Uh yeah, I mean he gave a Dylan Brooks who
is a really good perimeter defender, right, not as good
as I don't think as he was the last couple
of years. But he was your best three point yarge
effort guy, best three point shooting guy. Yes, so I
mean he was. He was an asset. And then Jalen
Green was your leading scorer in a fifty two win team.
(47:19):
That was something they didn't give up nothing. You know,
I've told you this five million times, tay you five
million one. It has to hurt. Gone of the days
of trading again. The only teams that don't hurt are
the teams, like we're talking about the race. Trading for
prospects don't hurt because you don't hear about those guys
for two or three years. NBA trades have to hurt
a little bit. If it's funny to me how differently
we'd be viewing this, or especially Rockets fans, if if
(47:43):
somehow Jalen Green and they were still out in the
first round, but he averaged like twenty game that thirty
eight point game. If he'd done that like a couple
more times, how differently, just from that little sample size,
we'd be talking about this trade because let's let's insert
Jalen Green and kick out Fred van leads productivity. If Fred,
let me ask you, I'll give you a strange one
(48:03):
for you. If Fred has a terrible series, and as
much as he may loves friend, I think it's no
head in fact on that. Like I think college, I
think coaches love veteran point guards, loves his moxie and
loves the fact that he can be a big time
scorer when necessary. Is there even a consideration that Fred's
contract gets picked up for next year or do they say,
(48:25):
you know what, that seven game series kind of told
us who Fred was in the playoffs. Yeah, that's an
interesting conversation too. We'll never know because I think Fred's
going to work on. My guess is Fred's going to
get an extension beyond what is next year? It should
be announced. I think maybe is it today where they
can announce it. I can't remember very soon. Yeah, it's
really a reworked extension. It's so weird how the NBA
(48:47):
does it. Thing, Like I said, on Wednesday. I'll be
down at the draft party with some of the members
of our seven ninety team, and the Rockets have the
tenth pick and they're going to trade and they're going
to announce it's a player that's never gonna wear a
Rocket uniform. If you're gonna do this, if you want,
you know, you got to do either one or the other.
Start the league season today or after the game seven,
(49:09):
or say there's nothing you can do touch even you
can't make a phone call for thirty days or twenty
four days, whatever the case would be. But it's just
weird that we're gonna have this draft and this guy's
gonna put a Phoenix Sun's rocket cap on and never
wear it for the team. Hey, it is what it is.
They'll be fine, get over it. And that's what I'm saying.
It sounds like to me there could be some minutia
(49:29):
involved in this trade that may not be beyond just
what was already happened yesterday. Oh what if this is
some kind of what if the deal falls apart somehow?
I don't think they could. I wouldn't I wouldn't even
throw that out there in the radio sphere. Okay, Ross
is the king of jinks and I'm learning that now
what who either jinks? Just in general, Tyreus Halliburton, You
(49:53):
did you jinx him? I mentioned that cash. I'm sorry,
I laid out a fact that cash strains can turn
into Achilles tears. You know what I thought about before
the Halliburton injury yesterday because you know they had a
one point let at halftime. Remember we were talking about
odd opening odds mm hmm. Weren't the thunder a minus
six and a half And I'm talking about the series
series price seven hundred something, so like seven to twenty.
(50:19):
And what was Indiana to win?
Speaker 10 (50:20):
It?
Speaker 1 (50:20):
Like plus four something four fifty or something that that
that's that would have been a nice ticket to cash,
but it wasn't. Nope, no matter what you do in
terms of giving them odds, the better team typically wins.
And man, the Pacers go from this team that could
tend to if Tyre's Halliburton's gone for a year, does
(50:43):
that mean we're gonna see Obi Toppin shooting as much
as he did? You know what, just got a lot
better the Desmond Baine trade. Oh, Orlando's feeling great right now? YEP?
I like Jonathan just jumping in with some sound effects.
I like it too. I gotta let know what. Yeah,
he likes my point. If you're questioning something, you should
definitely say oh no, then he's never gonna stop every
(51:06):
time you talk. Oh, there's sounds there, sounds right there.
Once again, took an hour fifteen to be rude to me.
That's fine me. Yeah, well actually probably actually yeah, it's
like a record one of your better works there seven
one three two one two five seven ninety. If you
want to chime in, we got some folks online. We'll
get to you, guys coming back seven one three two
(51:27):
one two five seven Untie coming up at the bottom
the hour. We'll have to tell the truth and we'll
have it for you. Russy, what got into Maritio? Dubon
four home runs on the trip hercleese. I don't know
what's going on now. Each of them cleared the fence
(51:47):
by about half a foot. Did they clear the fence?
They'd sutainly been shut up dead? Whoa, well he's sitting
there Dubon fan club. Yeah, dude, I hey, Aby got
his ops over seven hundred. Man, we're just nothing. But
it was like it was like five sixty ish a
few days ago. So good for him. You know who
(52:11):
else is Raking Rake Myers, Rake Myers.
Speaker 11 (52:15):
Baby, he's hit three ten with a seven seventy six ops.
Speaker 1 (52:20):
What's up? They doubted the fan club. Matt y'all are
telling me it was a June slump for him. I
don't yeh're going off, are spirit? Matt said?
Speaker 12 (52:28):
No?
Speaker 1 (52:29):
I said, I said, we gotta avoid the June slump.
That's what hater MT was saying. We did avoid the
June slump. Yes, sir, No, Actually you had a gut feeling.
You you showed confidence. I did, thank you. You said
his Uh, your gut feeling was by the end of
June he'd still be over two seventy five. Yeah, you're
gonna be good on that, thank you. How's my Christian Walker? Uh?
Gut feeling predictions? What's he beat today? He's too eighteen? Okay, Well,
(52:54):
I had a couple of hits. I had him at
two fifteen that one like I was making asking for
a lot of progress. You had him at two fifteen.
You're like, he's gonna charge up the stead of the leaderboards.
Folks at two fifteen six forty eight ops. Christian Let's
get him to the All Star break and do what
and get him rested. I don't know these days, it's
(53:16):
get him to get him to a CanCon again. I
don't even. I don't care. Kozaml wherever Des Moines, Iowa.
Get him out of Houston, get him clear in his mind.
Some will get him on a darkness retreat with Aaron Rodgers. Yeah,
what do you do? You do? You just go away
for a few days and turn your phone off. Amen,
be an All Star? So man, I say, man, I
(53:40):
was so excited when he was acquired by this team.
I'm excited Jose Brady signed him, like, oh yeah, this
lineup is gonna be unstoppable. Christian Walker, we were all excited.
Maybe we're just cursed in first basins. Juli Guriel, Well,
don't worry. Big John Singleton's back in the fold. Kenny
in Downtown eleven twenty three of The Matt Thomas Show
(54:01):
with Ross Kenny. Good morning to you.
Speaker 13 (54:05):
Hey, gentlemen, how was it going?
Speaker 4 (54:08):
Hey?
Speaker 2 (54:09):
Last?
Speaker 1 (54:09):
Uh?
Speaker 7 (54:10):
Last week?
Speaker 14 (54:10):
You always catch on the podcast and always like a
day behind, so I was able to finish up on Saturday.
Speaker 1 (54:17):
But last last.
Speaker 14 (54:18):
Week's shows were classic. You know, h everyone's called in
about its cheeks, right.
Speaker 1 (54:27):
Yeah, cheeks the hamsteret.
Speaker 3 (54:28):
Yes, yeah, I kind of I kind of had a
little I kind of can relate to that. My nephew
he was at ut at the time and he drove
back in the middle of the night to come back
and have like a proper funeral here in Houston for
his hamster that you know, unfortunately passed away.
Speaker 7 (54:48):
So I know the importance of it.
Speaker 14 (54:51):
But last week, you know, Ross, you know, you took
a kind of heavy last week, you know, Matt, you know,
for fifteen years, you know, you've tried to give a
name for Ross, and I think last week, uh, you
you know, you finally coined it. And I'm not going,
you know, with a I think it was Frank that
(55:12):
I called him the backup, which was pretty funny.
Speaker 1 (55:15):
But uh, when you said, uh thirsty r V, that's
because he's getting ridiculous, it's not true.
Speaker 14 (55:28):
That was awesome. I mean, that's the one we should
go with. I mean, I know it's taking fifteen years.
Speaker 1 (55:32):
No, I don't think I'm hanging up on you, Kenny, Kenny,
thanks to the phone call anything else.
Speaker 4 (55:37):
Of you, No, sir.
Speaker 1 (55:40):
All right, thank you yeah, I like thirsty r V,
but I don't the worst. Trevor ruined your name in
one phone call. That's fine. I didn't send any d ms,
not once now this entire weekend. Oh, not to her,
not to his girlfriend. Noh, yeah, she follows me on Instagram.
(56:02):
Now I will not send I will not send our
listeners girlfriends, I g d ms. Never mind, I'm not
even talking about this situation. Moved on. No, we've we've
we've we've determined that you were if you were being
playful playful what is that that sounds weird? No, but
you would. There was something. There was something malicious in
(56:22):
your d ms. There nothing in there when you said,
what up girl, it's not true nice outfit. When you
send the fire emoji back to her, When you send
the picked the emoji of the face, the eyes with
the tongue, tongue out we didn't. We didn't interpret those
(56:42):
that didn't happen. See, you're fake news, Matt, I dog
just kidding. Uh, but yeah, it's a good you know. Look, honestly,
I have been smiling ever since the train went down.
I have I have been in a ridiculously good movie
because I mean I have invested interest in this. I
like to a many games. Well it's fine, No, it's great.
(57:03):
I mean yeah, let do pre and postgame shows for
teams that people. You want people to care about it.
I want people to care about it. I mean I've done.
I've been on shows. I went on national radio yesterday,
The Mad Dog in the Serious Channel. You talking mad Dog? No,
I went on with Phoenix this morning. I'm going over
for Sam. Just going Austin as soon as show's over
with today. Ooh, which Austin outlet? The Craig Way Show.
(57:27):
Oh really you Craig Way. I filling guy. No, it's Craig.
I feel because he actually texted me. I feel guilty
because we've had Craig on numerous times, but I've never
he's never any have you back? Well, it's like you
know what Houston? I mean, are you gonna quiz him
about mascots of various high schools? That's not nice. I'm
just you've done that before. I have, and he's hit
it every time. He's an encyclopedia of Texas high school sports.
(57:51):
Yeah all right, eleven twenty seven on Sports Talk seven ninety.
It is a Matt Thomas show with Ross, if you'd
like to join us, we got a line open for
you at seven one three two one two five. I
have seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven Hounty. You know we got time for to tell
the truth, and we'll do that after Ross tells you
about synergenics. You tell me, but Ross, actually I do,
(58:31):
and in fact, listen to me, both of you, Jonathan
and Ross. So this takes usually three minutes of a show.
We don't never get back. All right, I'm looking you
straight in the eye and listening. I believe three of
these things. So only one line I'm lying about. It's
easier to tell me how many times you're lying. I'm
lying one, Okay, I think I've got this nice knocked
(58:53):
out right. Okay, yes? One? Why three truths? Three truths
in a line. It's like a game we call to
tell the truth number one. I know there's a lot
of excitement in the air for John Singleton signing a
minor league contract with the Astros. Oh goodness. The Astros,
in my opinion, need to get a left handed bat
at the deadline. I'm not sure about what Jordan has
(59:16):
when he's coming back. It's going to be at least
after the All Star break. Even what he has career
is not over, this season might be over. Oh stop,
they need a left handed bat. You hear me, I
didn't stutter. No, I understand that, Okay, regardless of whether
Jordon's back or not, which you mean, he'll keeps coming back.
But I trust me, I ain't hold my breath on
when Jordon's back. Number two. Please no more jose Al
(59:42):
two bay at second base. It is becoming more and
more difficult to watch him defend that position. And one
of the things about this team that is so good
in twenty twenty five is the fact their defense has
been good. The reality is there's a reason why they
thought about movie in the left field for a reason.
And I love a Josel Tufe. He's my favorite astro,
(01:00:03):
greatest of all time. But I'm done him playing second
base number three, with the way that now Kevin Duranas
in the West and the West is super super loaded.
If I'm Yannis, I tell the Milwaukee Bucks I'm standing me, Liwaukee.
I think Giannis should stay with the Bucks and not
(01:00:25):
ask for a trade, because even if you ask for
one then necessarily mean you're gonna get traded into a
team in the Eastern Conference. And if you're Milwaukee, why
do you want to help another team in the Eastern
Conference do something that you think you can do with
the healthy Yiannis and number four whin the dust settles,
Ladies and gentlemen, you're Houston. Astros will win the American
League West by at least five games. It will not
(01:00:48):
be an issue the final two weeks of the season.
The Astros will be your AO West champions with a
winning margin of at least five games. Which one of
the four am I not telling the truth? A Okay,
the Astros need to acquire left handed bat b police
no more housey On two Bay at second base. See
Yanna should stay with the Bucks. Be the Astros win
(01:01:10):
the American League by at least five games, which one
am I not telling the truth? Hmm, these are actually
pretty good in the bag. I mean the Astros need
a left handed bat. Unless you're big on Taylor Trammel
or he's big on keeping until drawn until he gets back, dude,
(01:01:31):
they still need another left handed bat. I mean, you
can only play once the DH spot is taken up
by jord On. You don't it's more difficult to squeeze
Caratini in there. Uh, I'm done with alt two of
a at second base personally, the Astros said that in
the off season two so he could believe that.
Speaker 5 (01:01:51):
Okay, so this is one lie. There's no way you
don't think Giannis is staying. But it makes sense.
Speaker 1 (01:02:00):
I want to kind of gravitate too as well. So
there's three Astros takes and then you're honest and Milwaukee,
and then there's a Milwaukee Bucks take. Right. Hey, we're
in the summertime, guys, help me out here. Okay, robust
college football conversation. I think I'm ast settle for I'll
(01:02:24):
go with number three to three as well.
Speaker 5 (01:02:27):
The Bucks are Bucks are really bad right after Little
just toy stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:02:32):
And the East is wide open. If somebody could get
him in the East, I'll go with that number three.
Final answer, Final answer. I love jose Al Twovey, and
he's playing second base by necessity in large part, but
it's very difficult to watch him play there. M I mean.
(01:02:52):
And ultimately, if the Astros can get the first thing
on my list, a left handed bet, maybe that could
be a left an infielder you never know, knocks that
out so I think the Astros need to be done
with Roseale. To me at second base, the Astros need
a left handed bat. The last week of the Astros season,
they play the A's and the Angels on the road
(01:03:15):
where they just finished. They will get fattened up and
they will win the division the week before and they'll
have a winning margin of five or more games. So, yes,
Gianna should stay with the Bucks. Is not what I believe. Yes,
good job, Jonathan. Now the question is, and I did
bring this up. If you're in Milwaukee and you think
(01:03:37):
you can get some parts back, you're gonna be getting
a large haulback. Why would you want to send him
to another Eastern team? You might as well send him
west to make his life as difficult as possible. So
the fans in the eat some Milwaukee can't go, look,
look a you did. You helped the team. You helped
out a very not vulnerable East, but perhaps a more
wide open East get better right away? I wonder it. Yeah,
(01:04:00):
who were even the I mean, I would imagine Milwaukee
doesn't want to trade him to the East. But again,
it's gonna come down to ultimately, who gives you the
best haul, draft picks and probably players that are in
the league. You can't. Oh yeah, you have. You have
to get proven players to go to Milwaukee. Well you're
gonna have to match that contract too, that's true. So yeah,
(01:04:20):
that's sorry to mean to get three astros in a
Rando Giannis on you. But again with a little more
slim pickings here, it's all right. You're still we're still
flustered from the Kevin Durant trade. I thought you're gonna
have a kid each. Uh. I thought you're gonna say
I guarantee the Rockets to make the West Finals or
something like that. Well, and now whether you would believe
that or not, I don't know. Yeah, I mean, I selfish,
i'd want that for numerous reasons. Sports our behable And
(01:04:43):
you know what, you could have said, I got one
for you, Yeah, go ahead, But I couldn't help you
because I have to guess, right, Uh, if the Rockets
don't make the finals this season is a failure. I
I don't you and you know, we would believe that
because we've talked about championship or bus multiple times. What
is it? What I wouldn't say, it's Nut's not a failure.
They don't make the Western Finals, the NBA Finals. If
(01:05:04):
Kevin Durant is here for let's say three years, he
signs a two year extension, it's three total. They got
to make one finals. They gotta make one final, right,
that would be a failure, correct one, I would say,
or deep The West is so tough. The West is
so tough. But that's why you made the Durant to
absolutely you try to separate yourself. And again, not that
(01:05:24):
Las Vegas says everything, but Las Vegas did say you're
separated yourself a little bit at least, right m hm.
You go that lego that list you that list of
the favorites, I can find it. Oklahoma City is the
favorite finning Championshipically, our next West team is the Rocket
rock who's behind the Rockets? Minnesota and the Lakers are
fourteen to one to win it all. Rockets are nine
(01:05:45):
to one. That's a pretty significant drop off, would you
not say.
Speaker 7 (01:05:50):
So?
Speaker 1 (01:05:50):
And again be okay, see, I think, well, can I
give you one take on this? And I think this
was brought up by somebody on the social media platforms Okay,
I think health is seventy five percent of the game
right now. It's huge. I mean, it's thinking about it,
but would where would it now? Granted Boston was down
when Tatum got hurt, so maybe that's a bad example. Yeah,
(01:06:14):
but Alburton, you could give him back from three to
one with Boston with the two games at home for Boston, Yeah,
they could have come back in that series. And tell
me the Tyres Halliburton, if you didn't have the quad
injury before that and the and the achilles last night,
they they had just as much. It was an even game.
It was a one point Indian analytic at the half
and he only had played what seven minutes. The Cavaliers
(01:06:37):
had three or four players playing on ankle injuries. I
think they had three of them. Miss Donovan Mitchell was
playing through an ankle injury, and then Evan Mobley I
think got hurt in that series. But isn't that don't
you think that maybe when you have a season that
goes as long as it does, that if you don't
have an injury bug hit your team, you've just been
even blessed by the NBA. We can go through the history.
(01:06:58):
First of all, we can start here in Houston and
two and eighteen a great example. You can go twenty
nineteen Raptors win it all when Kevin Durant ripped his
achilles you can. I mean, there's there's some more. Who
else did the Oh there was? There was one of
the times the Spurs went through after Russell Westbrook got
(01:07:18):
hurt in the series. And I think maybe even Serge
Ibaka okay, So, on paper, the Oklahoma City Thunder are
the favorites next year to win another championship. On paper
doesn't tell you that a particular player could get hurt.
Sga could go down, Jalen Williams could go down. If
jal Hartenstein goes down, dor Or usually gonna tell me
ched Holmgan is gonna one hundred percent every year in
the playoffs. This is a weird thing for a heterosexual
(01:07:41):
to say. I look at his legs. They're like Patenni sticks,
and I got skinny ass legs. I know skinny ass legs.
So it takes one to know when you're saying exactly,
he doesn't he needs to gain some weight. He's still
gets thrown around. Maybe he can't. It's how many times
three times he had that he missed the entire first season.
(01:08:03):
He missed the whole three the first season with the least,
and then he had the he had the fractured his
pelvis this year and he missed significant time. But yeah,
it look the rest of the team, the Thunder, you
are uniquely positioned to take on that type of injury
because he can get hurt as long as he wants.
They're so good. They still had the highest point differential
in history. And then as long as he's healthy for
(01:08:24):
the playoffs, the Thunder are good. But you look at
his body. I mean, it's it's it's it's then top
to bottom, but it's really real thing. Why did everybody
cheer when we were at the Rockets draft party when
he went ahead of Jabari Smith? Everybody did? And that's
the only reason for health, Not because he couldn't want
a skill player, not because he can't knock down a three,
could block a shot, but he just looks really. I mean,
(01:08:47):
would it be fair to say that he's going to
be injury pro his NBA career? I think so because
of his build. I think so for Minano as well.
Ya Okay, we come back. The biggest Honk and LSU
baseball history joins the show Man and we're going to
defend Coastal Carolina. Because they got screwed by a terrible,
(01:09:08):
terrible LSU graduate behind the home plate. Last night's sad.
I don't want to hear about any of this. Seven
one three two, one two five seven ninety seven to
one three two, one two five seven ninety eight. It
is absolutely criminal Ross what I saw in the College
World Series. First of all, on Saturday, that number one
draft pick apparently of the LSU baseball team, threw one
(01:09:29):
hundred and ninety five pitches. I mean his arm was
literally dragging on the Omaha turf, wanting to go back
out there.
Speaker 10 (01:09:35):
Yeah, last game in an LSU uniform, playing for pride
in the title, you wouldn't know much about that.
Speaker 1 (01:09:40):
Playing for a title, playing championship. You do whatever it takes.
And then as soon as the game was over with Ross,
he went right to the medical center and had Tommy John.
Speaker 10 (01:09:48):
Can you imagine rockets and no title this year? It's
game seven, and they go, you know what, Durant, we
need to save them his energy for next year. You
know it's you a long off season.
Speaker 1 (01:09:57):
It was basically child abuse is what you had in
Game one, and then game two, you bought the umpires off.
You gave him some budhan, some cracklings, uh some shaphalaya
and uh gata buttes some gata bytes. And you say,
you get to New Orleans, We'll get you a room
in the corner, whatever you want it. We'll get you
some of Louisiana's finest girls with or without teeth. And
(01:10:18):
you ejected the coach in the first inning. Shame on you,
l s U. I celebrate you none.
Speaker 10 (01:10:23):
I don't know how LSU got the coach ejected when
the coach was the one being an ass. I'm sorry,
are there rules? Are the rules reinforced?
Speaker 1 (01:10:31):
Rules? You know? Unless he called you a rachel slur
let him bitch and moan. Yeah, it's the College World Series.
You are You are such a.
Speaker 10 (01:10:42):
Minority of this you can argue balls and strikes. They'll
They gave him a warning twice to warning.
Speaker 1 (01:10:47):
Nobody can hear that warning?
Speaker 10 (01:10:48):
Give you five thousand people ass back in the dugout,
and he kept doing it. I don't know what you
want him to do. Look, I do agree that they
probably shouldn't just let it slide. But again, he was
being a cocky ass. He's the same one two weeks
ago who was telling people how to pronounce chunk to
clears correctly, like get over yourself.
Speaker 1 (01:11:06):
Clears unless junk less, no one even knows what it is.
Speaker 10 (01:11:10):
Pick up, pick up the Bears of the Lions.
Speaker 1 (01:11:15):
You're a really original thereon in Batown. Hold on now, Houston, Well,
we were the first one. We were the first one.
Oh yeah, name it our older.
Speaker 10 (01:11:25):
Cougar, the coach Yu, the Coastal Carolina Cougars. I like
the alliteration.
Speaker 1 (01:11:32):
Yeah, congratulations, really throwed for your squad. And I'm sad
that they have eight is eight championships now a few
more than Texas. Texas has six. Texas still has the
most College World Series appearances. Yeah, and when's and when's
the last championship? Varied for many years? Two thousand and five,
Slash is bringing the championships. Bones have faded to ashes, said, hey, Garritos,
(01:11:54):
Oggie's alive? Right? Do you know he died?
Speaker 6 (01:11:56):
Kip?
Speaker 1 (01:11:57):
I didn't realize that until he was out there the
coach at the former co former athletic director at LSU. Anyways,
now that's good. Us still at home in a regional
I'm sure if you're going by championships in the USC
is the best of all time. Yeah, when's their last one?
Been there the last series?
Speaker 10 (01:12:14):
No, they won one in the nineties, but prior to
that was seventy eight, like their magnificent magnificent run was
in the sixties and seven.
Speaker 1 (01:12:21):
It's still the USC got the most championships.
Speaker 10 (01:12:23):
Okay, yeah, and the and the Cowboys are still the
pinnacle of the NFL for the championships.
Speaker 1 (01:12:29):
No, Steelers have six Super Bowls and then Patriots.
Speaker 10 (01:12:32):
That's the Cowboys roster wasn't born yet the last time
they won a title.
Speaker 1 (01:12:36):
So the narrative out of the broadcast the best two
weeks in sports? What broadcast the College World Series for
the best two weeks in sports? As soon as as
soon as Carl Ravagers said, I said, March Madness is
saying hold my beer here on this. Yeah, the first
two weeks of March madness. For sure, they need to
(01:12:57):
get Ravage off those broadcasts.
Speaker 10 (01:12:59):
By the way, you can't be calling MLB all year
and then come in to call college and you don't
even know how to pronounce the kids names?
Speaker 1 (01:13:05):
Who names? Was he mispronouncing the VI pronunciation? All the cage?
You want, you know, to say a moodro correctly now bam,
But It made me say, so you tell me every
last name with EU accident problem. He was just getting
everything wrong.
Speaker 10 (01:13:16):
Like, I don't understand how we go through all year
and it's Ben McDonald and Tom Hart and all these
people calling the games and then they get to the
college room series they go we needed wa O perez
and uh ravag, Like why what.
Speaker 1 (01:13:28):
Was Ben McDonald? I was it? Chris Burke was calling game,
Chris yesterday game? They did it? Just yeah, it's just
it's silly, so de tilliering like there was a watch
party here in town yesterday or the LSU alumni group. Yeah,
where do they have one hundred people out there? Big
(01:13:48):
screen TV and they're all young thing think they're all
putting together. They put got a big pot of money
and they sent it to the umpire from Yes.
Speaker 10 (01:13:54):
Well it was funny was there was one table of
coastal fans there and I'm like, of all the places
to go, why would you come here? You know you're
you're just asking for trouble. As they were doing five
dollars yellow shots.
Speaker 1 (01:14:05):
What did anybody get in any scraps?
Speaker 2 (01:14:08):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:14:08):
We got out of there before that happened. So what
what did the coastal people look like, because I know
what y'all looked like. Not attractive. Wow. So basically he
just stereotyped an entire campus off of four people that
he saw at one Houston availability. Okay, so that's fine.
Local nine won yesterday way closer than it should have been. Correct,
(01:14:29):
it was. It was a weird game.
Speaker 10 (01:14:30):
It was like the momentum swings do Bond Bond coming out. Yeah,
it was a little dell O Harry when Hater gave
up the solo shot. But that's too strange. He's giving
up home. It's not great now. The one before was
in a tie game. Remember that was the whole thing
last year was in tie games. Haters kind of iffy.
But when they got the lead, he's good. It's fine.
(01:14:51):
I don't think it's a chink in the arm or anything.
He was outstanding yesterday, so that was good. But yeah,
I think I think a little lucky to come out
out of splitting the four gamer with Oakland and take
it too out of three in LA. You're you're lucky
to kind of come out of that.
Speaker 1 (01:15:07):
It's crazy because we've been asking for the Astros offense
to kick it into high gear and they had to
go to three high. You had three high scoring games
on the trip and you only went four and three.
Speaker 10 (01:15:17):
Well, here's my problem is we were playing with house
money for a couple of weeks with the Colton Goldens,
the Ryan Gusto's, the Brandon Walter. It was bound to
hit a the clight. The clock was going to strike
midnight on Cinderella like this can't continue. And they got
roughed up. Gusta gave up five, Walter had his worst
outing yet, so.
Speaker 1 (01:15:36):
They left bought Walter at their Saturday just to just
take it for the team. On that one.
Speaker 10 (01:15:40):
It was I mean, like he had to. He got
six and Gusto got six. So I give them credit
at least they're stretching out a little bit more. But yeah,
I just I'm looking at Arragetty, I'm looking at the Colors, going, guys,
speat this thing up.
Speaker 1 (01:15:53):
We need you back. Yeah, well, you know my philosphan
injuries from here on out. What's that when they come back,
they come back? Okay, I don't believe any of them.
I think mcculors was throwing off a mountain or they
say about Okay.
Speaker 10 (01:16:04):
I flew through on Saturday and I think we're supposed
to be on Sunday too or something like that.
Speaker 1 (01:16:10):
Okay, we'll get an opera from Joe a spot up
tomorrow twelve thirty. Yes, we will all right, oening and
up then, and we're going to do tonight. If we're
just sitting back enjoying a fine summer evening.
Speaker 10 (01:16:19):
Well it's gonna be a nice, beautiful evening here in Houston, Texas.
Might I suggest you grab you a Crawford Bock from
our friends at Carbock Brewing and tomorrow back at the
ballpark dyk in Park where you can enjoy anice cold
Crawford Bok while you're watching your Stros. Pairs perfectly with astrospaceball.
Whatever you have in there at the ballpark, whether it's
peanuts or popcorn or dollar dog night, it is always
(01:16:40):
a good night when you're enjoying the Crawford Bock from
Carbock Brewing and again watching the Astros win.
Speaker 1 (01:16:45):
We'll be out there tomorrow night. All right. That's Gordy
with us every Monday and Friday here on the show.
Guess who's in town? Rossy. We welcome a new rocket
to our house. Oh, we'll do that next. Plus the
news at new An eleven fifty eight on Sports Talk
seven out eight Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
Speaker 8 (01:17:14):
TV.
Speaker 1 (01:17:14):
Let's walko Kevin Durant to our house sports Arvey. All right,
we got the news at noon to get to and
then at twelve twenty we're going to play some Brian
Windhorse audio that kind of gives us behind the scenes
on the trade. And then we've got to make a decision.
Is it my goal? Isn't my responsibility to get you
(01:17:38):
and Katie to be pals? No, I don't. I don't
think he necessarily wants to be pals with media people.
Isn't that kind of guy? But you can be affable.
You both share a love of ut you haven't washed
your hands since he shook yours back in the day. Yeah,
that's true, And I got some sores I got to
clear up. And he's a guy that you have been
NonStop in love with basketball wise, not not negatively. He's
(01:18:01):
one of one of the greatest players of all time. Yeah,
but who do I fawn over more than any other
athlete on the show all the years of work together. Uh,
I don't think I've meted. That's not a hit at all.
Jose l two there. I just call him the greatest
aster of all time. But he's the worst basement I've
ever seen in my entire life. Got picked off again
(01:18:23):
this weekend. Man, that does happen a lot. Unfortunately. I
don't think we can even kid with him about it.
I think he would take it soap her Eric Gordon,
you've fawn over Eric Gordon, Aaron Gordon, of them, I
gets Eric Gordon. I like eg, that was my that
was my Carl g for three G for three. All right,
let's get to the news at noon please. All right?
(01:18:45):
So the Brian Windhorse commentary about the trade coming up
at twelve twenty wonderful and I like Brian, right, we
can play his audio. I trust him, he's connected good.
I would agree with this shams and it's really a
distant thre for everybody else, right, yes, yeah, yes, or no? I
mean not just and third, but a sizeable distinct. Yeah,
(01:19:06):
there's there's a yeah. All right, we want to hear
from you. Are you happy, elated, sad? Indifferent? Give up
too much? Not a huge fan of thirty seven year olds?
Let me know seven one three two one two five
seven ninety how listen? Literally? How are you feeling pour
(01:19:29):
your emotions out to us seven one three two one
two five seven ninety. But first we present the news
at noon. Yes, Matt, it is Kevin Durant to the
Rockets going back to Phoenix. It will be Jalen Green,
Dylan Brooks, the number ten pick in this year's draft,
and five second round picks, including I believe the second
(01:19:49):
round pick the number fifty nine pick in this year's draft.
The trade cannot be formally completed until the new league
year begins on July sixth, Kevin Durant finding out while
he was on stage at Fanatics Fest in New York
when the trade agreement broke. Fans were surprised by the announcement.
(01:20:11):
But Kevin Durant is a Houston Rocket, Jalen Green, what
do you think happens for the rest of his career?
How many All Star appearances? And you can start with zero? Uh,
he'll make one. I got I Fielm feeling like one
or two. If he makes two, that means just he's
(01:20:33):
a significantly better player today than he was when he
was a Houston Rocket yesterday. He's only twenty three years old, Matt.
People don't peak at twenty three. But the NBA see
been on league a long time, relatively not really not
a long time, but he's been in there long enough.
I got him rossy as about a what he is
(01:21:00):
twenty points score. He'll never be known as an efficient scorer.
He's a volume scorer. Will he have as bad of
a postseason as he had with Golden State? No, I
think his postseason future is brighter than what it was
as it left against the Warriors. But do I think
he's ever gonna be an alpha dog for an NBA team? No,
(01:21:22):
he could. I think his max could be the second
best player in a basketball team, nothing on a contending
on a contending team. They could be the best team
player on a bad team. Yeah, I mean the Wizard
wud love to have him exactly exactly all right. Else
where I'm at, we mentioned as well the Houston Astros
eight to seven victory over the Angels to win the series.
They are now forty five and thirty three. That sounds
(01:21:44):
pretty good. The hits keep coming for Jeremy Penna and
Jake Myers multi hit game for both of them. They're
hitting three, twenty six and three ten respectively. Offense. Yesterday,
the lineup people were worried about. I mean, you had
Cam Smith and the clean up spot, Jake Myers batting second.
Camp Smith had plenty of games batting in a nine hole.
(01:22:05):
How many teams in baseball and a nine hole hitter
eventually bating cleanup? Uh oh, yeah, it's kind of rare.
But he has been turning it around and he's been
pretty good played overall. He's a good rookie. But I mean,
you had Hummel dubon your may. I mean that was
a mismash lineup and they still scored eight runs. Congratulations
to them, and the Astros have a five game lead
(01:22:28):
over the Seattle Mariners. The American League West King of
Bray You Hater the seven to eight nine. The latter
two each have the same ERA one point eighty three
on the season, nineteen holds for Brian A. Bray You,
nineteen saves for Josh Hater. Bullpen continues to shine for
the Houston Astros. Bullpen's been good, defense has been good.
(01:22:50):
A little bit of leakage in the on the starting rotation,
but that's surprised not surprising me based off on the
type of arms that have been going out there every day.
Also an Astros. Note they have reinstated Taylor Tremmell from
the injured list. Shay Whitgham sent down overall in his career.
Just a six thirty three ops for Taylor Tremmeelle, but
(01:23:11):
an outfield left handed bet for the Stros. Need one
more like a legit one. What do you mean it's
tremmel season, baby, He's ready to go. He had a
calf injury for a long time, right, I think it
was a calf You know, those caps will do for you.
Speaking of which, your NBA champions are, the Oklahoma City Thunder,
(01:23:32):
Tyrese Halliburton hasn't been officially confirmed. Officially confirmed within the
last minute. Okay, Tyrese Halliburton. It is a torn right
achilles tendon, gonna miss a year plus. They couldn't get
it done. Thunder win one oh three to ninety one,
their first NBA championship in Oklahoma City. And our good
(01:23:54):
friend Softy from KJR and Seattle does the radio show there,
I go on his show. He comes on with us
absolutely annihilating the ownership of the golden of the Oklahoma
City Thunder. For that team who still has Seattle Seonyx
roots to it wins a championship. There, Shake guild is
Alexander NBA Finals MVP. He is tied Stephen Curry, who
(01:24:20):
also has won Finals MVP in his career. There are
some people asking that could Caruso have won it? Hm Caruso.
Eleven people that voted for the MVP award chose Shake
Guilder's other Jalen Williams, was making a case in the
middle of the series. Yes, by the way, imagine being
Pacer Radio today, Indiana Radio. You lose the championship and
(01:24:42):
your star player is going to be probably out for
the foreseeable future. Not necessarily a brighton cherry day in
the old Indianapolis metro area. East Man, the West just
continues to be a gauntlet and then the East continues
to get weaker. Now, but it's not what I'm saying,
And I know that Jannis, that's three three of their
(01:25:04):
top five seeds from from this playoffs. I don't mean
to backtrack. I'm I have to tell the truth. But
why wouldn't Yannis stick it out because the lowerd have
may be gone for a year and they're getting old. Yeah,
Calves and Knicks are going to be the East top contenders,
but if you're a Milwaukee you cannot trade him. An
Eastern Conference team could be sneaky. Could the Detroit Pistons
make another leap if they stop blaming officials for all
(01:25:26):
their losses? But three of the top five seeds, Celtics, Pacers,
Bucks suffering major Achilles injuries to star players, all potentially
out for the twenty five twenty six they're gonna be gone.
Yeah crazy? Is that the news at New? That's your
news a New. Thank you very much, appreciate that. All right,
we're gonna take a short time out. We got Felipe
and Jesse want to get in if you want to
(01:25:47):
chime in. We got two lines open at seven one three, two,
one two five seven nine to zero seven one three two,
one two five seven. Hoiney, We're gonna let you hear
what Brian Windhorse had to say about behind the scenes
and the rocket deal. Will taking more of your phone calls,
believe it or not, Today's obviously KD and it is weird.
I've I've spent my entire NBA career ross downgrading Kevin
(01:26:10):
Durant baskets, Oh Durant for three and another one made
and now he's my bestie. Funny how that works. It's
that's how the craziness of the NBA goes seven one three,
two one two five seven ninety twelve, twenty one Sports
(01:26:31):
Talk seven ninety. We'll get to Steven and Jesse in
a matter of moments. So here is Brian Windhorst. Jonathan
can play the audio for us. This is this Morning
on ESPN. Again, I don't like to play a lot
of their stuff because they're just a bunch of talking
heads talking on their ass. But Brian wind Horse is
connected and uh, this is Brian giving you a little
bit behind the scenes. It's about two minutes, but it's
a good listen, uh, to tell you how exactly the
(01:26:52):
things came down. Ultimately, the decision was made by Kevin Durant,
largely that he was going to be a Houston Rocket.
For Houston, we don't have a problem. Actually were the
opposite over.
Speaker 15 (01:27:00):
So last summer the Rockets made it a very interesting trade,
the trade we've never seen before.
Speaker 1 (01:27:04):
They traded.
Speaker 15 (01:27:06):
Some of the picks that they owned from the Nets
back to Brooklyn, which cleared the way for them to tank,
which they did this year.
Speaker 1 (01:27:13):
They got the eighth pick and they got picks that
the of the Suns.
Speaker 15 (01:27:18):
They got three two two picks in a swap. And
as soon as that happened, people said, I think they're
trying to get Kevin Durant. And all year long the
Rockets said, not really, we're not. You know, we love
Kevin Durant, but he's in his mid thirties. We got
this team in the twenties. We're not really going for him.
And some people thought, oh, it's because they really want
Devin Booker. I believed. I believed her Felstone when he
(01:27:40):
said this. By the way, he said this publicly, he
said it privately too. He said it publicly because I
believe that he wanted to have his young team grow.
But something happened the last few weeks. One you're dead
on Ema Judoka, who had him in Brooklyn Royal, Ivy's
on the staff.
Speaker 1 (01:27:55):
He was his teammate of Texas. He wanted him.
Speaker 15 (01:27:57):
He went to ownership and said in front office and said,
can we get Kevin Durant?
Speaker 1 (01:28:01):
Get him.
Speaker 15 (01:28:01):
The other thing was they couldn't say no to the price.
The price was just so low. They just couldn't say no.
It's meant to say, look what they still have on
their roster, so they now have optionality. They can say,
let's keep letting a men Thompson develop, let's keep letting
Jabari Smith by the way, Tarry Easton, Harry Easton.
Speaker 1 (01:28:19):
They love Tarry Easton.
Speaker 15 (01:28:20):
There he could be the guy who replaces Dylan Brooks's
at the defender. So now they can get Kevin Durant,
get themselves better and still have these pieces that.
Speaker 1 (01:28:30):
They can keep.
Speaker 15 (01:28:31):
Were trade so the Rockets had this happened because Kevin
Durant controlled this process. Last winter, the Warriors were ready
to trade for him, and he said, I don't want.
Speaker 1 (01:28:44):
To go there, but they backed off.
Speaker 15 (01:28:46):
Last week the Timberwolves were on the verge of trading
for him.
Speaker 1 (01:28:50):
I want to go there.
Speaker 15 (01:28:50):
I don't want to go there, Aunt Edwards, and Edwards
could have tried to talk him into it.
Speaker 1 (01:28:55):
He did not, said it's not my place. Kd.
Speaker 15 (01:28:58):
You do what you do, and so the the price
came down, the Rockets moved in. That's how you elevate
yourself as a team. You buy, you buy low, and
you have a great opportunity.
Speaker 1 (01:29:12):
Good stuff there. Let me let me can I just
tell you, isn't it nice? And I think all three
teams kind of have this right now, but we didn't
all have this ten years ago. All three of our
sports teams in this town I think have a pretty
good amount of respect among foreign offices in sports. I
think David Brown's made some savvy moves. Casaro's done a
(01:29:35):
pretty good job overall. Yes, I mean we got some
offensive line issues still need to be discussed. What do
you mean they're all good? Okay? Now again, you get
two receivers that are great this year and the offense
explodes that. You know that's going to further cement Cassio
and e May wants something goes to ownership. General managers, Okay,
(01:29:58):
we'll figure out what to do. I gotta keep my
core because you know, if Rafael had to fight for
the corps. Yes, general managers fight for first round corps.
They have players they like, uh not out of the ordinary.
And it also helped the Kevin Durants like, no, I
don't want to go to Minnesota and I sure apparently
sure is Hell twice told the Golden State Orders, I
don't want to go play for you. Wonder why that is?
(01:30:19):
Do you think any reason why? I don't know, too
old maybe maybe maybe he wants to be surrounded by
more young players. But this that's what San Antonio would be,
and that's what Miami would be. That I not that
I need Kevin Brian Winhortz to make me feel good
about this, but it just listening to that. That's first
time I've organically heard that. Uh huh. I was like, man,
(01:30:42):
we're in good shape. I like, I like winning, I
like I trust my general manager. I certainly trust my coach,
and I like that with all the teams that I
do love. And I got one here, got a duel here, yeah,
the well one one small correction, as the early two
thousands Texas basketball historian here, they were not teammates, Royal
Ivy and Kevin Durant, but of course they both went
(01:31:04):
to the same school. Now DJ Augusty, now in the
Rockets front office, is got TechEd them. But there's Texas
ties all over the place. Here hook of morns the
storied history of Texas basketball twenty nineteen in IT Champions
and are you ready for this? Jeff Green and Kevin
Durant were on the same Sonic team when they were
both tracked. They're still the only two remaining left Sonics correct.
(01:31:26):
That is correct. So yeah, that the price getting too low.
And that's what I thought too when we were kind
of we were going through trade proposals and we talked
about one being for Jabari Smith with Jalen Green, and
we talked about one with Dylan Brooks. It's basically this
exact trade package without swapping twenty nine, they don't get
(01:31:46):
twenty nine back the rockets. And it was like from
some random blog, some Suns fan block, So kudos to
that guy. And I was thinking last week. I was like,
I don't think the Suns would accept that trade. But
clearly they because as Brian Winhorse said, the price got
too low. They were running out of candidates. They had
no leverage because everybody drafts on Wednesday early, and their
(01:32:08):
grandma knew that they wanted to get rid of them
by the draft, So they were in a spot where
they didn't have a whole lot of leverage. And this
is it's while they're still swinging for the fences and
giving up Jalen Green, it is a lower risk long term.
Jesse is with us on The Matt Thomas Show with
Ross at twelve twenty six. Jesse, good morning, we're good afternoon.
Speaker 4 (01:32:27):
Hey guys, I was sick when I saw the trade.
Speaker 16 (01:32:31):
I guess I'm kind of at thirty seven years old
at constantly.
Speaker 2 (01:32:35):
Getting hurt the concerns aut I thought we should hold
pat with a year under our belt, growing young guys.
Speaker 1 (01:32:43):
You know so.
Speaker 2 (01:32:46):
But I guess if you got to roll the dice
and you're in a hurry, I guess you can do this.
Speaker 4 (01:32:50):
But I personally would have preferred.
Speaker 17 (01:32:52):
To keep everything the way it was.
Speaker 1 (01:32:54):
That's fair. There's gonna be a certain segment of the population.
Thank you Jesse for the phone call. I don't think
it's the worst thing to say. I don't want the deal.
He's not far from a no brainer, because again, if
you're worried about Katie at thirty seven, that's fair. If
you're worried about achilles injuries in the NBA, that's fair
because guess what, they're happening all the time. But what
(01:33:17):
Kevin's how many played last year? I think it was
sixty five or sixty I don't know how many games. Yeah,
it was like seventy two and sixty five the last
two years something. I'll pull up the exact number now.
Grant you can drop off that doesn't necessarily twenty five
and sixty two. Okay, so he is playing in back
to backs he was two years ago. I don't think
(01:33:38):
he will with the Rockets. Yeah, I think they're gonna,
They're gonna, they're they're bringing him in for the for
April plus. You just get into the party, get into
in there. I think, first of all, I think seeding
to US this year, you know, didn't make that big
of a difference. Look at it, well, look at the Rockets.
You were a two seed and you lost. But also
(01:34:00):
that was a team that made a big trade in
February became one of the best teams in basketball. So
it's kind of a tough draw for the for the
Rockets there. And I get Jesse's point as far as
the team could have grown and got better, but the
question was could they have grown and gotten better enough
to the point to where you are challenging for the
first Western supremacy. The issue is, and we do not
(01:34:23):
have the answer today, what did the Rockets give Phoenix?
Did they give them him? They them a twenty point
per game guy who shoots about forty percent from the
floor and about thirty two percent from three, or do
they give him a guy in a year or two
that shoots forty five percent from the floor thirty seven
percent from three and shows them in the playoffs. We
(01:34:48):
can't wait. We foolish for anybody to judge us right away.
First of all, it's we got a judge in both directions.
Kevin Durant comes here, plays twenty six games and it's
hurt for eighty percent of the time. And Rockets struggled
just to get in the playoffs and get bounced early.
The trail will be doomed to failure. This is championship
or bust or I should say championship finals or bust.
(01:35:08):
Was that fair? Uh? I think they're trying to go. Look,
if you get to the if you get out of
the West, you're winning the finals. I think unless maybe Cleveland,
unless Cleveland just runs server boat boat, you know, run
server Orlando and Palo Benkera can make that next leap
with Desmond Bane. And it also about yeah, I'm telling
you for me watching this postseason, in particular, it's about
(01:35:30):
who's healthy. In April twelve thirty, Sports Talk seven, Nini
will take some more phone calls next seven one three, two,
one two five, seven ninety seven one three two one
two five Sevenati all right, twelve thirty three. If you
are an Astro fan, your squad went four and three
on the road trip. I don't know if it's disappointing
(01:35:51):
or it is what it is, disappointing, slightly, slightly, disappoint slightly,
but I'm not Look, you still got a five game lead,
a disaster. That's disappointed. Nope, we got get to more
on the Astros coming up over the next hour. So
here's what we got since the postseason. Kyrie Irving torn
left acl Damian Lillard torn left achilles, Jason Tatum torn
(01:36:12):
right achilles, Tyreese Halliburton torn right ACLU, and de Jontay
Murray a torn right achilles tendon. That's all. Oh, that's
just season. I don't know if it counts just the posts.
That's this season. I forgot about Dejontay Murray. There are
everybody's trying to figure out what you do on that.
(01:36:33):
I think Colin Coward, a friend of the show, I guess,
suggests the five game NBA Finals. I don't believe that
to be the case. All Right, that's ridiculous, that's absurd.
I don't even know if you shaved six games off
the regular season slight, does that make a different? I
mean forty minutes, forty minute games forty said, never know
where I'm gonna go never, No, I'm must stay with it. Never,
(01:36:55):
no chance, no how, no way. Okay, Lebron was pushing
for it, pushing for a little bit now and the
and the international. He went to the international forty minutes
and the international. Goaltending is Dad's a piece of cake gold.
That is the best. You can take the ball anywhere
off the room if you want to, zero problem with it.
I would do it because then you know, you can
leave the subjective viewpoint of a goaltending out of the
(01:37:17):
way exactly. And it's more it would lead to more scoring, Yeah,
more putbacks. Yeah, I just can't see. Oh man, I
don't want to follow my sword on this one. You
can rescind it. It's fine. No, I'm not going to No.
I think there's too much money. I think there's that's
(01:37:40):
it's eight lots of minutes to sell a beer in
an arena, that's true, and all mixed drink. I guess
they're going from eighteen dollars to twenty Cocktails are getting
crazy in arenas and he's in ballparks. I told you
we have a tradition, the Mavericks broadcasters and I we
we drink at each other's buildings, and that's always. I
turned to get it in Houston and I get that
(01:38:02):
bill and I'm like, damn, I needed like a discount
card or something. Yeah, you can talk to tell me
about devils are like forty dollars a pop. Water bottles
are free. And when you ain't flying a plane, you
don't wear back, you know, flying back to Dallas, you're
okay for a while, plastic flask under your armpit free? Will?
Will that be rude? If I just hand him a
six pack and said, I got you guys, got you
(01:38:23):
something ahead of time? Yeah, you should do that. Actually
crazy six pack of Loan Star. Yeah. I get him
a hiring beer than that, you know, I'll get him
a little four pack over I go to tire, you know,
a little crap rew hey brought me and I owe
you some, don't don't I? Yes, you do. When we
go down, we'll go there and drink. We'll go sit
in there and drink and eat barbecue. Let's go all right.
(01:38:44):
That's how you're really if you want to check that
out in sugar Lamu. Okay, So the so, how do
you if we're not getting out of forty eight minutes
and we're not reducing games. Because if you could, if
you could promise me those two elements would help that,
I would maybe buy a new a little bit more.
But I can't do that. I can't. Yeah, I can't
(01:39:04):
promise you anything. I don't know what the solution is.
They're probably, they're not probably, they're not gonna want to
go away from eighty two games. These NBA teams, and
that's talking about all sports, forget about basketball. These NBA
teams spend hundreds of thousands of dollars a year on
sports medicine, millions of dollars in their facilities. We have
a traveling group ross six seven people for a twelve
(01:39:29):
to fifteen man roster. I mean the Rockets, I know,
and the we're not in the minority in this. The
Rockets and the NBA teams travel huge massage therapist, sports medicine,
tissue specialist, doctors. We have a doctor that travels with us.
So I mean, they're all there to help recuperate, but
they're also there for preventative maintenance too. Maybe just the
(01:39:52):
game is in itself, it's just super super physical, and
that's is just gonna be a part of the problem.
Everybody's bigger, faster, stronger, everybody is pushing their bodies to
the We talk about this with pitching injuries. Yeah, and
I mean, and we go through this. It feels like
every year with NFL injuries. We were talking about this
last year, about the seventeen game season and and you know,
people and their fantasy teams, and we remember what was
(01:40:13):
the like the week seventeen or eighteen, uh, starting quarterbacks.
It was like a crazy list. It was terrible. And
it is. I think, in my very unscientific opinion, that
everybody's pushing their bodies too hard because that just became
the nature of the game back in nineteen seventies. The
guys in the off season, they were, you know, selling
insurance or just smoking cigs and sitting on a beat.
(01:40:34):
Can I tell you a stupid thing I have Maybe
maybe we're too physically fit. Yes, I think I think
within the span of basically a generation, everyone is pushing
their bodies too hard, and it's the stress on the
on the muscles and the ligaments and the every and
it's and they're they're put everybody's pushing to the limit
(01:40:54):
because that's just what it is now. And that's what
you're working out with their tea the off season, you're
working out with your buddies around the lead over a
year long. We go to the Rockets facility right now,
there's guy's putting up shots right now as we speak.
I guarantee it. And it's not their fault. It's like,
you know what, Hey, if you're not working out of
the off season, you're not a good teammate. You're it's
not trying to get yourself better like Shack back in
the day, who would just show up and play himself
into shape. And that's I think it is the stress
(01:41:19):
that is put on these bodies. Even with better and
improved rest and recovery, it just feels like it's happening everywhere.
But thinking about this, if Halliburton, I don't know how
many games he played during the regular season, but he
probably when he played almost he played every postseason game, right,
So they just finished off about twenty postseason games eighty
two games of a regular season. Let's say you played
(01:41:40):
in seventy and that's that's ninety games plus practices, seventy
three games, seventy three plus you see basically play about
ninety five games in seven months, going hard, but especially
the last twenty five of them balls of ball, super hard,
(01:42:00):
no letdown, no gimmes. You're playing for a championship. You're
gonna go out there and do what you can. You're
not gonna you're gonna go out there and you're gonna
play at less than hundred percent. The game is played
in January, he's setting out for two weeks. But you
can't predict injuries, and you certainly can't time them properly either. Yeah,
I just don't know what the solution is unless they're
reducing minutes or games. Well, the easy thing is if
(01:42:22):
you reduce minutes that forty that guy that plays forty
minutes a game is now playing thirty two minutes a game,
and that less time on the floor would then mean
a smaller chance of sustaining injury. But you could suffer that.
He could suffer the killings injury working out and during
a practice. Yeah, it could happen at any time, are
(01:42:44):
the players. Yeah, we need some more data and research
and all this and it's also for any time to
change should happen, it's gonna take somebody to say something
needs to change, and that would either be the owners
or the governors that they call them an NBA, or
the players. So I wonder how the players union feels
about this and the players in general. I'm sure if
you talk to on a hundred player, you're gonnaet a
hundredferent opinions, right, But what does the union feel about this?
(01:43:06):
And what do the the owners feel about this? Because
even if you shaved, if you went from an eighty
two to a seventy eight game schedule, you're you're just taking.
If you're gonna shave, you're gonna shave forty eight to forty. Yeah.
I mean, look like right now the Oklahoma's under the
city thunder. They don't care. I mean, they were healthy
all year long, relatively speaking, chet Home, chet Holme got
hurt and I don't know the occasional whatever injury from whoever,
(01:43:30):
but it's like somebody's got to win anyway. Dasy answer
is ross, it's just flukish, yes, and the more you play,
the better chance you have of getting hurt. But you're
not going to give up the opportunity to take your
body to the next level in order to win the ring.
But it feels I mean, how many different series that
we can point to are affected by injuries. The Steph
Curry got hurt and affected that one. Aaron Gordon for
(01:43:54):
the Denver Nuggets got hurt, yep, and affected that series.
We mentioned the Cleveland Cavaliers, they had three four guys.
I mean, look, anybody can turn an ankle, but they
had like three four injuries in that one. In the
Bucks series, the achilles injury for Dame Lillard in in
the Celtics Knicks series and an achilles injury, and then
in the finals an achilles injury that started off as
(01:44:15):
as a calf injury. And I'm probably there could be
even some some injury that I missed yep. Yeah. Oh
Jimmy Butler in the first round series, yes, he yeah,
and he never he couldn't full the recover because or
are we just are we just recency bias? Are we
just did this happen every year? Don't feel like it did.
(01:44:37):
We don't have the memory achilles seems like a lot
of three star player achilles injuries feels unpressed. So we've
figured it out here at twelve forty two. Let's get
athletes a little fatter. Let's put little let's put a
little fat on those bones. What if you get like
do a moratorium, like once the league year ends, you
nobody can work out. Nobody can work out. I can't
(01:44:59):
wait at least that. Don't work it out for six weeks.
Take it, take it easy, guys. You cannot get back
on the practice courd until you gained fifteen pounds. Yes,
a blubber. Your body mass index has to go up
full blubber, right, yeah, the body fat percentage. I don't
know what the solution is, Like I said, fewer games
(01:45:20):
or few minutes. But you go from think about this,
you're going from not even winning the thing about it?
You don't You didn't win the championship and you can't
even celebrate because your guys on crutches. He was outside
the locker room on crutches. It was sad and I
don't have it. I don't have I don't like. His
family was there and like she's like, oh, you know,
(01:45:41):
you gotta watch your son on the floor pounding the
floor screaming no. It was heartbreaking and he knew it
exactly when it happened. If he heard the pop twelve
forty three, it is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross
seven one three, two one two five seven. Honey. Hopefully
all these things we're talking about don't hit Houston, Texas
in the next twelve months. Haiti is a rocket, the
(01:46:01):
Astros split these win two out of three against Anaheim.
Is anything else going on? Coastal Carolina got screwed by
a terrible, terrible umpire and we had a PGA Tour
golfer who almost won his first event Ross until he
choked late. We've used the word choked a lot in sports,
have we not? In the last spin happening? Yeah, I
(01:46:25):
started in late early April and San Antonio, but I
don't want to bring that up, and so I won't.
Twelve forty four on Sports Talk seven ninety all right,
real fast, we'll go back on the phones. Does his name,
Tommy Fleetwood, do anything for you? Tommy Fleetwood? Is that
the golfer? That's the golfer. Okay, that's a great name. Oh,
(01:46:47):
it's a great name. It's not like he works on
a rock band. Tommy Fleetwood. He has a war record.
He is zero for eighty four in PGA Tour events. Okay,
I mean, hey, it's hard to win PGA Tour events.
He would agree with you. Keegan Bradley won yesterday. Okay,
(01:47:12):
what was the tournament?
Speaker 13 (01:47:13):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:47:13):
The Travelers Championship.
Speaker 2 (01:47:15):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:47:15):
I love the Travelers. It's one of my what's one
of my top six? Nobody cares? What the chott? I'm
just kidding. So Keegan was three shots behind the final day.
Not again. Three shot leads are not insurmountable, so clearly
he got it. Missed a pair of putts in the
six foot range twice of the last five holes to
(01:47:36):
lose the other oh, six footers twice twice? A professional,
I always alike when professional golfers miss easy shots, you do, yeah,
it makes you feel better about your game, right, Like, Okay,
this guy does this for a living. He's a multi
millionaire and he's out here scuffing putts just like I would.
(01:47:58):
So you weren't now that you were watching, but you
would have been rooting for a guy who went oh
for eighty three for him to lose, No, I wouldn't you?
Speaker 12 (01:48:07):
Sure?
Speaker 1 (01:48:07):
Yeah, you just said you just said he wanted to
miss a couple of six football, I just meaning golfers
in general. Okay, So if Mike fleet Mikewie, if Tommy
Fleetwood would Yeah, if Tommy Fleetwood is the all is
the all time individual loser, who else is on our list?
Who else is on the all time loser list?
Speaker 12 (01:48:29):
Well?
Speaker 1 (01:48:29):
First of all teams that don't win Super Bowls, that's
Minnesota and the Bills. And the Bills is the first
thing I was going to say that came to my mind.
Bill individuals Steelers, I mean the Bill's vikings there are
I mean, they are like tennis players who hover around
like twentieth in the world and they just rack up
money and they just never win a tournament, because I'm
guessing Fleetwood's made some good money during his life. But
(01:48:53):
to go now, it's hard to compare this to a
team event because you're not You're never going to be
favored in a lot of events per year unless you're
like the number one golf in the world. But Rossie,
he's over eighty four. That's not that much. How many
events are they do in a year, That's a good question.
I mean, you can do twenty thirty forty, No, not
(01:49:15):
that many. You play all year long. If you want
to go to like the Philippine Tour, you could probably
play what fifteen, yeah, fifteen events a year. So let's
say say that. That's no, they probably played more than that,
don't you think, Well, you know what, I'll look at
his record. But I just saw that and I was like,
(01:49:36):
poor guy. I mean, granted, he's also making a lot
of money now. He is thirty four years of age,
He's from England. AI from Google says most tour pros
played twenty to thirty tournaments a year. Okay, I'm trying
to look at his results. Remember you who the Masters?
(01:49:58):
He finished it tied for twenty first, So that's yeah,
that's still a good chunk of change. Right, It's not bad.
It's not bad. I'm trying to think when he first
started playing. He started first started playing. Uh, looks like
twenty ten. Yeah, he finished tied for sixty seventh of
(01:50:21):
the check Open, tied for sixty eighth the Johnny Walker Championships.
He was on a partial tour in twenty ten. He
started playing full time in twenty eleven. Missed a bunch
of cuts. Yeah, you gotta also assume he's gotta beet
making all these cuts. Too. M hmm, that's true. M Mmmm,
(01:50:42):
that's a shame. Mickey Fleetwood. What's it, Tommy? I'm sorry,
I want to they're related, could be. It's not a
common name. Not a lot of Fleetwood's running around there.
Sounds kind of cool. Its yeah, it sounds important, like
if I was Matt Fleetwood. He was the voice of
the Rockets, Matt Fleetwood. That does sound good. What sounds
like a guy you bring in from Like, uh, hey, guys,
(01:51:02):
sales are low, we're bringing in, We're bringing in the
big gun. We're bringing in Tommy Fleetwood. Oh, he's in
motivational seah exactly. We got a big We got a
special guest coming in to talk to us to get
our goals. Tommy Fleetwood. Yeah, and he's trying to shill
his book for twenty five bucks. Actually, Tommy Fleetwood, you
wouldn't want him come to salesman. He's over for eighty four.
He and a closer. He wouldn't want him. No, Yankees
(01:51:25):
Keith is with us at twelve fifty five. Hi, Yank
Yankees Keith? What's going on?
Speaker 16 (01:51:30):
Hey, I'm really excited about KD.
Speaker 13 (01:51:34):
But what last year?
Speaker 17 (01:51:37):
The last like the last.
Speaker 16 (01:51:38):
Part of last season when we played the Sun, didn't
he go out with an injury?
Speaker 1 (01:51:43):
Yes? He did.
Speaker 16 (01:51:45):
So is he here now for a physical?
Speaker 1 (01:51:50):
Oh, I'm sure it's be part of the process. But again,
the deal can't be consummated until July the sixth, it's
like two weeks from now. Yeah, I'm sure. I'm sure
he's fine. He was at Fanatics over the weekend and
did he was walking around just fine. I thought that
makes a difference. But yeah, I don't think it was
such a it was. It was a severe situation that's
going to cause him a long term injury.
Speaker 16 (01:52:13):
What's the backup playing if something happens to him?
Speaker 1 (01:52:15):
Praying right? I mean.
Speaker 16 (01:52:23):
You what, I love the trade, but I'm I don't
feel sorry for Jalen because if he didn't bump out
in the playoffs, he may he may not have got trade.
Speaker 1 (01:52:33):
Yeah. I really believe if if if Jalen did not
have the series that he had, that this would be
a non conversation piece. If Jealen Green scores twenty eight
points a game and falls on his sword and does
everything you humanly can, why would the Rockets want to
move him? He would have taken that next step. That's crazy, right,
it's crazy. It's seven games. Now, look, I mean six
games determine his future, six bad games. Yeah, but it
(01:52:56):
was it was six games where he just didn't want
to break through the wall. He did look like he
kind of didn't want to be there. And and that's
what you played basketball for the eighty two games against
Charlotte and Memphis and fellat off. You're cool, but man,
you gotta beat a team that has been your nemesis
and you need to be the hero. And you fought
all your way to be the second seed, and you
got to play Golden State, and Golden State's old and
(01:53:17):
and Jimmy Butler's hurt me. Jimmy but was hurt for
a game and a half and it didn't make a difference.
It just didn't.
Speaker 16 (01:53:26):
What do y'all think would have happened if if Jalen
would have wal do you think we still would have
tried to get Kad and Hulu?
Speaker 1 (01:53:33):
Just I don't think he's here even if I think
even if the Rockets make the second round, how let's
say they win game seven. I think they beat the Timberwolves.
I think they're better than the t Wolves. I think
they make the Western finals and this is a non star.
This is a non discussion, non discussion. Isn't that crazy?
I post? No, I think a post is gonna do that.
We see coaches getting fired. Yeah, my uh got fired
(01:53:56):
and then top Libdau got fired in New York for
not win not one in the East. We are in
a heavy Thanks Yankee, see for the phone call, Rossie,
We are in a heavy results. What have you literally
done for me? Not ately, but just last week? Yes,
what have you done for me? Last week? And in
the last two weeks of Jalen's Rockets career. Ross It
(01:54:18):
wasn't like he went one for eleven. He didn't even
take eleven shots. And I think that bugged the hell
out of the rock It was bad and clearly they said,
if they think he's blossoming into a superstar, you do
not trade him. But they did crazy. So here's what
(01:54:38):
I can't answer, was that Jalen was that was the
moment too big and will always be too big, or
the Golden State put the clamps on him defensively to
levels that we didn't even anticipate they could do, and
that by the time they spent seven games making sure
(01:54:58):
that Jalen Green w isn't a factor. They were tired
out from Minnesota. Do you have an answer for that?
If you don't, you don't, that's fine because I don't.
I don't. I think Jalen Green can be better than
what he was. But the question, the question is, and
always right now will be how much better? We have
(01:55:22):
a four year sample size of him being four years
under league average at three point four years under league
average at field goal percentage his last five games, Oh,
don't even, don't even do it. Eleven shots. God, he
took eleven shots in the last five games. That may
be right, averaging No.
Speaker 16 (01:55:43):
No.
Speaker 18 (01:55:44):
No.
Speaker 1 (01:55:44):
Four to twenty six would be Game two of the series.
Game two eleven shots, Game three eight shots, Game let
me go back three four, five, three four five six seven,
Game three eleven shots, Game four to eight, Game five eight,
games six eleven. He took forty six in the five
games and eight shots in his last game in thirty minutes.
(01:56:05):
He may even try to get him stay out there
on the court to get involved. I'm telling you this series,
yeah forced the trade. It just did, because why would
you give up on a guy that was scoring twenty
four points a game, giving you five or six rebounds,
two or three assist for what you hope it is
(01:56:27):
a thirty seven. I mean Kevin Durant's thirty seven. That's
going to be part of his his his resume. He's
thirty seven years old. It's undeniable. Well, it's also undeniable.
Is Jalen Green was given plenty of opportunities thirty minutes,
thirty two minutes, twenty eight minutes, twenty five played thirty
nine minutes in Game three into eleven shots. Given opportunity,
(01:56:49):
didn't and did not take advantage of it. Final hour.
The Matt Thomas Show with Ross is next. If you
want to join our conversation seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven to one three, two two
five seven nintis The Matt Thomas Show with Ross. What
oh five Sports Talk seven Nintie, Matt and Ross with
(01:57:12):
you for another fifty five minutes. If you enjoyed the
show so far, we're gonna give you more great entertainment,
more insight, more analysis than a radio any other radio
show in the marketplace. Would you agree on that? I
don't know how I wouldn't agree. That's good. That's good.
Astros win eight seven over the Los Angeles Angels Houston
forty five and thirty three, twelve above five hundred, it
(01:57:34):
sounds pretty good to me. On pace guy, what's on
pace Guy saying ninety one wins. Wow, I can't believe
they're here. Can't believe it after all these injuries, and
that means they're gonna win the American League West by
five games. It feels like we always do this. But
what is the What if I told you in spring
training Matt Christian Walker would be terrible, You're done, We'd
be missing two months. Basically, you traded Bregman and you
(01:57:56):
traded got rid of Bregman and traded Tucker. Hey, we
knew that, I mean in spring training, but like wes Nett,
we were hopeful about Wesnesky Runel Blanco all down with
Tommy John Spencer Arrighetty missing multiple months with this thumb injury.
And you are twelve games above five hundred. You have
not seen Jon and Alvarez play in you said May third,
(01:58:18):
So what is that about? Fifty five days, give or take.
Pretty good. They're winning at home. On the road's a
little bit more of a struggle. Well, by the way,
Josh Hatter's earning now is at one point eight three,
even after giving up the run yesterday. You have a
sub to era with Josh Hayter, who had a good
season last year for the Local Night but on a
(01:58:38):
great season. But Brady's era is the exact same as well.
They're both at one point eight three. How about that.
And your favorite pitcher, Ryan Gusto now is five and
three on the year. Had to work his way through
six innings, but got there. Jake Myers, talk about Jake
Myers and the fan club. Maddie, we're having a great year.
(01:59:00):
Eight Myers OPS is now at seven seventy six. Beautiful,
just beautiful. Look at all these OPS numbers that have
started to really rise. Pays is now above eight hundred,
Myers almost at eight hundred, Al two Bays at seven
fifty four, Cam Smith at seven thirty nine. We'll skip
(01:59:24):
Christian Walker, Carottini will worry about later. Hummels short sample size,
Mauricio Dubond's slugging and OPS is at He's over seven
hundred now. He got over seven hundred on a weekend.
Of course he's hit four home runs. Yeah, I mean
that's pretty good weekend. And Luis Gourmet. Luis Gormey has
got gjormeh gyurmey is ops is three hundred three on one.
(01:59:52):
O Your ops is three on one or average? Uh no,
ops is three on one. Now we got some work
to do a little bit. Nine play, but he got
to hit yesterday scored a run. Okay, yeah, literally last
week it was five to seventy one ops for Dubond.
(02:00:13):
In a week he went from five to seventy one
to seven to seventeen. That's what four home runs in
one week does. It's crazy. I'm telling you he needs
about third. When the Astros go back out to Sacramento, right, hey,
get two home runs there? Come on now, last week
of the year, the same exact road trip the Astros
just went on. They'll be their final one of the season.
They'll go out to Sacramento into Anaheim to clude out
the year. Will you popping champagne there? Nope, they will
(02:00:35):
not be doing it. They'll be doing it at dyke
In Park because they will win the division for that
last road trip, if you say so, I feel pretty
confident about that. See what the Mariners are doing and
the Astros again, this in the amount of incredulous things.
I tell you, are three and a half games out
of the best rock in the American League. Can't believe it.
(02:00:56):
Still can't believe it. I mean, do you, as Astro fans,
understand how shell shocked we are. This team for what
seven weeks, kind of hanging around five hundred, couldn't get
(02:01:17):
over the threshold of five hundred winning, But they were
kept winning two or three, two or three or winning
those thirteenth straight games. They were doing win loss, win loss,
win loss. And now you're sitting there. You are a
half game behind the Yankees, have the second best record,
You're tied in the win column. Astros have one more loss. Now,
as I say these things, the wild card team is
(02:01:40):
Tampa Bay and they're only two back of you. So
American League baseball is pretty tough this year. You've got
this even Kansas City, who's under five hundred, and the
Rangers are under five hundred. They're only two out of
Minnesota's two. All but three teams are within three games
of the wild card. That's going to potentially hurt at
(02:02:02):
the deadline. Now, there'll be somethingning out over the next
month and change, But it feels like to me and
maybe if I went back a year ago, at this point,
we were in the same situation. But we're talking about Ross. Now,
twelve of the fifteen teams in the American League could
go on a hot streak and gather a playoff spot.
(02:02:22):
That's why they added the third world card. And I
know some people were mad about it. I think it's
a genius move. I still don't like the dilution of
the playoffs, but I do like the overall. It's good
for the overall health of the league and in viewer sellers,
is good for more blamebases. It also keeps people vested. Yes,
keeping fan bases vested keeps teams vested when you have
a huge checkout factor. It's think about this, if we
(02:02:45):
if we had an Astros team that did not do well,
we'd have a sucky summer. We've been there, and trust me,
I've done it, You've done it. We've all done it.
By the way, Matt, did you know the team with
the week remaining schedule strength in terms of opponents win
percentage is still You're Houston ast say, I say you've
(02:03:07):
mentioned that quite a few times. Huh. I'm stunned by that,
because you have Still you have to go to New York.
You still have New York home with you. You still
have three with the Tigers, Tiger, three with the Dodgers
and Phillies. Now you do have five with the Rockies.
You get se that helps. Six with the Rockies and
seven with the A's, seven with the Orioles as well.
(02:03:32):
Now the Rocky Now these are Yeah, the numbers are
really being dragged down by six with the Rockies, that's
for sure. The Rockies. Oh, I forgot, I didn't see
that last one. Six Rocky games? Any better go five
and one. Yeah. Again, there's gonna be some people like
if you like losing the A's, it ain't great. But
(02:03:53):
remember the worst teams in baseball, not including Colorado, huh
win sixty five times a year, and some of those
sixty five wins are against good teams. So if you
run into a fan, I won't mention names, but if
be running fan, I can't believe we rolls to the A's.
It's going to happen. I'm trying to figure out you're referencing.
I don't know. But still, the weakest schedule you have
(02:04:14):
Seattle is the nineteenth weakest, and then the Rangers have three. Miami,
the Rangers have the eighth toughest. Start popping the champagne.
It's interesting, Sam, I'm gonna tweet that out at sports RVY.
Are you really? Are you looking to get retweets or
just likes? Both? Okay, how's then Instagram account coming along?
(02:04:39):
At sports RV we're at seven hundred followers. I think
we're doing We're doing a followback of on follow me.
I'm following you back at sports RV Instagram. That's dangerous.
Why that's too much? I'm gonna do it for the
next one hundred people at sports RV and Instagram. You
really want to do that? It's fine, I get new people.
So let me just show you how disingenuous that was.
(02:05:01):
What He's going to follow you in number only, but
he's not gonna really look at you. I mean, if
you're putting a bunch of weird stuff out or something.
That's what I'm saying. You know, it's it funny that
I can you know, you can tell who's mute to
you and who's not. Yeah, because you just know, Oh
you can't, don't you know? No? When do you put
when like I put I put out a Instagram story yesterday.
(02:05:24):
Uh huh, and a lot of people that are my
friends saw it. And then a lot of people that
I thought were my friends and I look at their stuff.
They don't. They don't look at my stuff. What Yeah,
I know, what if they just didn't click on your
name for for a day. They are there. These are
IgE aholics. They're looking at every five seconds. I just
know how they are. Okay, Matt just saying take to
(02:05:46):
get you, Matt, No, forgive me. It's just they need
to reciprocate I kind of way he's coming from. Thank
you very much. I know what you're saying. You said,
you know, you just said you're gonna mute the people
that just followed you back. So, first of all, was joking?
When when do you joke on this show? What? Seven
(02:06:06):
one three two one two five seven Natty seven one
three two one two five SEVENINTI are you as an
astro fan as astonished as we are? I mean, I'm
that's a legitimate question. Are you pinching yourself? Because everything
to start this year was no Bvier, no Bregman, this
(02:06:30):
Cam Smith characters out in right field? You said, jose
L Tuoba left field. Mm hmm. Yes, and your twelve
games about five hundred and a five game with the
American League West at the almost a halfway point and
the weakest remaining schedule in baseball. Time to cool the game.
Celebrate seven one three two one two five seven tomorrow.
(02:06:53):
Yeah eleven thirty seven one three two one two five seven. Natti,
you really got twenty new foteles in ig Oh, people
gonna be so disappointed. I got two shout out to
Scouts Revenge and J Kyle Manuel. Those aren't bots, are they.
(02:07:14):
Let's take a look, man, I love you guys, followed
you all back already. I can't guarantee you that sports
are you on Instagram? I mean, if I think you're
all a cool I will, and I'll give me some time.
I can't, I can't. I can't make a risk decision
just yet. But if you follow me, you got a
great chance of being followed, that great, great chance, one
hundred percent. It's a fraud. Oh look at you. I'm
(02:07:36):
gonna follow you, but I'm gonna meet you right back.
That's not true. People just heard you say it. I
haven't muted one person yet. I followed them all though.
You'll be doing it by three o'clock. That's not true. Okay,
y'all do here's the test. In about a month, put
a bunch of photos up and we'll see if Ross
likes your photos, and if he doesn't like him, it
means he is not looking at true. Oh, it's absolutely true.
(02:07:56):
I don't normally like things. You hear that on low liking, liking, latency,
likes digging, digging that hole, digging a hole, just being
you a sports RP. Appreciate all you man guys are awesome.
There's another one boom followed back. Come on, done? What
(02:08:18):
at sports empty? Way more fun interesting stuff, way more.
Come on, peeps, don't let this man what ga gaining
only on me? What do you got? What are you got?
Speaker 16 (02:08:29):
Now?
Speaker 12 (02:08:29):
You know what?
Speaker 1 (02:08:29):
I'm gonna try to pass you one day. I'm a
two thousand shan. You got like twenty thousand more than me,
two thou six forty four Instagram, I'm at like seven
hundred's work to do. Damn follow sports empty, don't unfollow
sports and town.
Speaker 18 (02:08:42):
You know what.
Speaker 1 (02:08:43):
That's rude. Actually, even though you were saying that, apparently
when I was out, do I call that man? You
said it? I don't think so. And I heard I
heard it from multiple sources. I was very disappointed, man,
not that I was surprised. Hey, I oh, we got
calling it golden baby. Let's go seven, one, three one.
(02:09:04):
I'll be back Eric, not yet, Eric on seven. Good
afternoon to you. Thanks for holding.
Speaker 17 (02:09:10):
How you doing good?
Speaker 1 (02:09:11):
How you doing all right?
Speaker 17 (02:09:13):
We're here in Daytona Beach.
Speaker 1 (02:09:15):
You're doing what a big fan.
Speaker 17 (02:09:17):
I'm in Daytona Beach where the Daytona Beach Asters to play.
Speaker 1 (02:09:20):
Oh, Daytona Beach a great, great place to hang out.
Speaker 17 (02:09:25):
Yeah, So I just wanted to disagree on how too me.
I think I think we need him at second and
not out there in the out there. I think he's
making way too many mistakes in the outfield and the
teams until trust his arm. And we got young guys
who want to play out there. So I think he'd
be better suiting his second. And also, what's the spartab
of doing wrestling guys with the vision opponents should need
(02:09:48):
be resting against the national league teams?
Speaker 1 (02:09:51):
No, and that makes no difference what league you're playing.
And it's about how many how many games I mean
think about they just finished off a stretch of thirteen
consecutive games. Gonna need days off.
Speaker 17 (02:10:03):
Yeah, I know, but it seems like we need the
division opponent game more than a good either you're.
Speaker 1 (02:10:09):
Gonna win, Either you're gonna win it or not. I
don't division opponents will not make that big of a difference.
And as far as Eric is concerned, Eric, they've been
trying to move ose for a while. I mean, that's
the case, moving into the left field for a position
they ever played in, because it's not like he can't.
He just can't cover the same territory than he once
did five or six years ago, and they need to
decide to make a change. The reason why he's playing
(02:10:31):
as much second base, not because they miss him at
second base, is because Brendan Rodgers is hurt and Mauricio
Dubon is not a guy that should be playing six
or seven days in a row. Yeah, all right, your day,
Thanks for the phone call. Shout out to Daytona and
you're getting you're getting fewer opportunities out there in the outfield. Yeah,
he doesn't have a great arm, he doesn't. You know,
(02:10:52):
he's not gonna make a bunch of crazy grabs. Well,
he's made some good plays out there, but it's gonna
it's about having fewer opportunities, fewer you know, earning double plays,
all that type of stuff, fewer involvements, and it's kind
of what they wanted to stay in his career. I'm sorry,
former gold Glover, great all time astro. It is what
it is. Was my favorite climb in the field. Yeah,
(02:11:13):
but I think there was there was some communication saying, hey,
we're putting you in left field. It won't not be permanently,
it'll be you be getting some second base. It's just
and I think I'm bringing this up to whether it's
McTaggart or borgo Cevic, it feels like he's playing a
lot more second base than I think they probably wanted
him to. Well, I think it's a lot of that's
what jord On out and then kind of figuring things
out with the outfield and the fact that Brendan Rodgers
(02:11:35):
hasn't I mean for it was bad and then now hurt. Yeah,
I can't anticipate Brendan Rodgers. They probably said take your time, yeah, oblique, Yeah,
make make sure you rest that one. Make sure one
hundred and ten percent before you come back, you know.
Bleaks can turn into Achilles injuries just like that. Oh,
I don't know about that, man, the oblique bones connected
with the achilles mote. Well, I'm just thinking it's a possibility, right,
(02:11:57):
I don't think so. All right, Let's go to our buddy,
uh Gerard at one twenty five on The Matt Thomas
Show with Ross Gerrod. Good afternoon, how are things everything going?
Speaker 6 (02:12:07):
Well?
Speaker 19 (02:12:07):
Man?
Speaker 13 (02:12:07):
How you guys doing.
Speaker 1 (02:12:08):
We're doing great? Thanks for asking, all right.
Speaker 13 (02:12:11):
Man, good news, Man, rockets got a number one option.
That's what they've been looking for.
Speaker 6 (02:12:16):
Man.
Speaker 13 (02:12:16):
They got a lot of good pieces, a lot of
strong pieces, but it was clear's day in the playoffs.
They didn't have that one guy that could give them
a bucket when things got stagnated. Now they got a
pure bucket getter and Kevin Durant. I think it was
a great pick up. They didn't have to give up
give up a lot of assets they gave. They gave
up again, like you guys said earlier, the Jalen Green
and the number ten pick and billion billion Dylan Brooks.
(02:12:37):
They gave up five second round picks, which was uh,
you know, they got Phoenis did get some something out
to deal, but they didn haven't give up too much
of their top asset, so it was a win win
I think for both teams. You know, Phoenix can try
to still be somewhat competitive next year. In the Rockets
in my opinion right now, uh the number two team
in the West. You know, you gotta give okay See
the credit that is winning the championship. That a team
(02:12:58):
to beat. I think the Rockets right there Nicks Uh.
As far as top contenders for okay Cee's crown in
the NBA, so I like to move. I think the
starting file it's gonna proably end up being ben Fleet
and Uh, I mean Thompson in the back court. You'll
have to Easton, He'll be at the three. You have
the Rent at the four, and you have some rul
at the file. I think that's gonna probably be the
(02:13:19):
start lineup with Jabari Smith, Red Shephard, Steven Adams and
Kem Whitt more than coming off the bench, that'll be
your your top nine in the rotation. As far as
kicking the season off, you know they'll better match up
with okay See with okay See goes big too, you know,
oh see okay See has harten Stein and uh and
my boy check Hobrom. They'll be able to, uh, you know,
(02:13:40):
put Jabari in there, go big and they'll still be
able to match up with a team like okay see
and still go small with teams like maybe go to
State and go small with there Easton in the lineup.
So the team has a line of versatility, a lot
of different lineups that they can go with depending on
the potic man.
Speaker 20 (02:13:55):
I just like that.
Speaker 13 (02:13:56):
I just like them, but just bringing in a guy
that can be a number one option. They had a
bunch of guys in my figure that were number two
with number three options and Sagoon and Jalen Green. Now
they got a bona five number one option, your number
two options, it's a gool. And then we'll see who
developer said your number three options, whether it be a
van Fleet again or maybe a mean Tarson man. But
I'd like to move by the Rockets, and I think
they are a top two team in the in the
(02:14:17):
Western Conference. I think, uh, we should be looking at
them as getting to the Western Conferinent. That should be
to go at least get to the Western Conference finals
next year. If you able to do that next year,
and then there'll be a sus six. But what's you
gotta think about this?
Speaker 1 (02:14:31):
Thank you, Gerard. We'll have a chance to chew on
everything you just said. Come back in the sky constructed
piece by piece what twenty seven if you want to,
If it's anything you want to argue about with what
Gerrod said, let us know seven one three, two one
two five seven ninety.

One in my Middles, in my mind, total one thirty
three on the My Topic Show with Ross Believe it
or Not? Today And you know we've done Kevin Durant
before we freshening up Katie or what so far I've written?
I think five questions. All of them are new. I
(02:20:02):
guess I can borrow from the old. Yes, my archives
go back to twenty sixteen, and first I must have
been when he signed with the Warriors. We had we
did Kevin Durant right, believe it or not? In twenty sixteen. Yeah,
I have ten years of we do the show way
too long, ten years of archives on these it's crazy, Josh,
(02:20:22):
and I'm gonna get peel the curtain back here. Well,
what you have to understand is the great radio stations
have stability. That's true. Show stations in this country that
are the legacy's radio stations don't make programming changes. I
got news for you. You're stuck with me for the
majority of the rest of your career. Yeah. Great, it's
(02:20:45):
depressing as hell. What's up a reaction? I'm sorrying, who's
getting I'm going a happy hour at two thirty? Who's
coming with me too?
Speaker 2 (02:20:52):
Thirty?
Speaker 1 (02:20:52):
Why are you waiting thirty minutes? Gotta get there and
I gotta get home in an uber out because I
don't know. Oh, you're really drinking. You know what he's doing.
He's drinking his all the time. Here's a couple that
I won't use from twenty sixteen. Kevin Durant's middle name
is Wayne. That's a believe it that is correct. Kevin
(02:21:13):
Durant suffers from oh, videophobia, which is the fear of snakes.
Don't we all believe in that? Believe it or not?
Speaker 8 (02:21:22):
U not?
Speaker 1 (02:21:22):
Yeah? I made it up. What's the fear of armadillos, Kevin,
that's what you have? Armadilliophobia? Oh? Absolutely, yeah? They give
you loopis or no, what's not loupis? Let's yeah you thinks? Yeah,
I am petrified of armadillos. Kevin Durant was nominated for
(02:21:46):
a Golden Raspberry Word for Worst Actor for his performance
in the twenty twelve film Thunderstruck. Believe it not made that?
Speaker 12 (02:21:53):
You know what?
Speaker 1 (02:21:53):
I'm gonna use that one. That'd be a gimme? Is
it because they roll up? I'm actually really because they
just exist. They don't touch them. They give you lepards.
I'm not going to touch them. I touched very few
things and don't ever go to South Alanto State Park.
Thanks for the heads up on.
Speaker 5 (02:22:12):
That infectious disease caused mainly by type of bacteria. Yeah see, okay,
you know all right, this is a very valid here.
That's disgusting.
Speaker 1 (02:22:21):
Thank you very much. I appreciate you backing me up
all right, I'm going to get to this Ranatics event
they had this past weekend. What did you say you rhyming?
Did you see who was all there?
Speaker 8 (02:22:31):
No?
Speaker 1 (02:22:31):
Everybody and their mother? Okay, Kevin Durant was there, and
Kevin doesn't even like going out. I think in public
only must have made it name. Tom Brady was there,
Eli Manning was there. There were wrestlers there. They're cutting chick.
That's where all the money's going. Because they're making these
cheap ass jerseys. I don't think. I don't think I've
ever purchased a Ranatics jersey?
Speaker 7 (02:22:51):
Have you?
Speaker 1 (02:22:52):
I have no, But remember that was the whole thing.
Everybody was upset with the baseball last year. Everybody was
sweating through their jerseys. The number ring and the letter
was terrible. They're cheap, Oh so they can they can
afford the appearance fees for Tom Brady and Kevin Durant.
What do you think the appearance fees? I would probably
think they're a quarter of a million dollars apiece. If
you're gonna get Kevin, you're gonna get Tom Brady to
(02:23:14):
come hang out. What do they do? What was it
for a weekend? For a day, it was it's called
Fanatics Fest, I think is what it have no clue
what it is. I've never heard of it. And they're
just giving away memorabilia, like what is what is the
I don't know what it was. Once you got in,
it was kind of like a showcase, okay, with all
these with variety of sports celebrities. Wrestling was a huge
part of it. I mentioned Brady, Oh, you got to
(02:23:36):
get him to come out to New York City. WHOA,
that's gotta be too fitty, right, got it costs you something.
Man Born Attis is killing it though. You mean for
hold On to get in about just anybody? That means yeah,
for appearance fees. Joe Burrow was there. Yeah, there was,
(02:23:58):
I mean celebrities, Gronkowski, Yeah, keep going all sports, Tyreek
Hill yeah, Micah Parsons, Yes, Oh they're dropping Tyreek killing,
Cody Rose, are hanging out with each other. Milli's on Millies. Yeah, wow,
(02:24:18):
we should do our radio show from there. We get
some people on. Yao Ming was there. I'm just kidding
made that one. You would Yamming out of just some
Rando as far as you didn't say Katino Mobley, Tony
Yusabo was there she was not. That's right. They couldn't
afford him. He would he'd go for like you better stop,
(02:24:40):
oh stop, Astro Clipper Clipper and the Astro Hall of Fame.
Now I'm getting an astro hall of fame before he is.
Where do I start? I' mnsa start a Twitter account?
You put put Tony U save you in the astros
Hall of Fame at astro Clipper. Yes might be taken.
Though have you worn your Usabio right jersey yet? I
(02:25:01):
have not? When am I going to wear a Tony
Yusebio Rockies jersey? I haven't framed it. Then you're right.
If the listener came to us actually gives two craps
about you and brought you to the jar. Now this
was very sweet. This is a sweetest thing I drink.
You didn't get to buy him a lunch. It was
the middle of the day. It was like eleven in
the morning. I was gonna buy him a joints right,
Big City Wings day day drink at eleven o'clock. There
(02:25:23):
is the not Yeah. I think they have some some
beer specials that are like are It's like a dollar
for a pint from eleven to two or something you
could have done that. It seems like a bad idea.
What do I know? What do you do? Nothing?
Speaker 4 (02:25:38):
All right?
Speaker 1 (02:25:39):
It was very nice, very sweet, and I mean I
still have it. It's all get threw it away. You
should either wear it or have it framed. And by
the way, thanks to all my new followers at sports
RV on Instagram. I'm following everyone back until I get
to five hundred followed what's up? I have no comment.
Appreciate y'all. You guys are the goats. It's funny, folks.
(02:26:02):
I'm watching and go to his account right now he's
muting everyone. He's a tire, he's a liar. My hand's
not even on my mouse. I just hit a follow
back on Papagator twenty two. Appreciate you. Where's your hand
up in the air? You tell me where my hands are?
Why you're bringing up number elevens? Anyways, what happened in
(02:26:23):
fanant effectin Look Oh Here we Go? Three day pass
was one hundred and fifty bucks. Now what does it
get you just to walk in and see these because
they were they're huge crowds and they were walking in
like wrestling style. Then there was vip and VIP platinum.
It doesn't have a price on those. That's crazy. Do
you think memorabilia is as popular as it ever was?
(02:26:46):
I think, yeah, I'm sorry, finished, No, that's it because
to me, I have memorabilia in my office, but it
was given to me as gifts. I don't ever go
after any I'm people like to me, you're in the bit.
We're very lucky. I mean like, in all likelihood we're
gonna get to interview Kevin Durant. That's cool. But it's like, oh,
let me tell you something a team does, we're gonna
(02:27:07):
have a serious problem. Really yeah, why, I don't know.
It's easy to say that. Okay, they don't deserve it. No,
they do a great job. Those guys work real hard.
Are you nothing, Go ahead, No, we're very lucky. We're
around athletes and stuff like that, so memorabilia is a
little less special. I think two guys who are lucky
