keep my eye on lately. I mean, I just say it.
I want to have his babies.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
I do. I don't want to bust him out. I
don't be teased.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
And it's just this long white pipe and they just
spray and it's it's a little bit of a pain
in the ass.

be doing winter star coverage. Don't say that it is,
I know, but we don't need it.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
We didn't do it. Do we do it last year?
I don't think I did it. Like, No, we did
do it last year.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
We did have a hurricane barrel barrel for like a
day and a half. It kicked our house power for
two weeks. Every tree in Houston was down. Yeah, have
fun times quickly we forget Hey everybody.

I hope you guys are in a in ladies and
a wonderful mood. I am in a.

Fantastic mood, except for that crap that was last night
at the Tota Center. M Uh traffic was connor And
get me back on this. It took like less than
two hours to get from Kingwood to.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
The studios here. Today it was pretty smoothing.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
What what up with that? A people taking Valentine's Day off?

I put it out weeks ago.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
You can't keep track of your schedule. I know.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
That's why I put out frequent emails to say, hey,
you know what, I'm gonna start capitalizing everything and putting
in bold raws and see this day I'm not working. Okay,
thank you, But I'll see you Tuesday in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
That's true. Actually, i'll see you Monday night. We're room dogs,

Speaker 2 (02:33):
We're in the same room, yes, Jesus, two beds though,
here we go.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
You much the rest of us. I'm gonna have to
watch now.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
There'll be no blood on the refrigerator or the stove,
or the bathrooms and the bathtub like there was in
a previous trip. That was that was an all timer.
It wasn't that bad. It was ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
There was never in danger. Didn't feel clean. Yeah, it
wasn't clean.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
I mean we had bacteria build up and all. It
was clean again, How did the floors get greasy?

Speaker 5 (03:08):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (03:08):
With somebody frying up fishing there. It doesn't make sense.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Could you imagine being a part of a greasy floor
in West Palm Beach, Florida?

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Hmm? What even the good side of West Palman?

Speaker 6 (03:18):
Right?

Speaker 3 (03:18):
Guess I don't want the answer to that question. You don't.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Hey, It is ten o five on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Happy Friday to y'all, and welcome to an Anything Goes

Speaker 3 (03:37):
It, Anything Goes for Friday, Yes, Matthew.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
The phone lines are wide open and available to the
folks at seven one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven ninety.
Anything you would like to get to, you can on
those phone lines. If you want to talk more about
Alex Bregman being a Red Sox person, if you want
to talk about person Red Sox, if you want to

(04:01):
talk to about the how you're lining up the six
and seventh innings of the bullpit, how many innings is
Forrest Whitley going to pitch?

Speaker 3 (04:09):
We can talk about that.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
And if you're looking for Valentine's Day and or side
piece day tips.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
Matt Thomas is your guys.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
I'm an expert on one of those, not on the other.
Really let you decide which is which. Okay, but yeah,
we are here for you today. Do you know anything
with the lady for Valentine's Day? They're about to land
in DC, so the answer is yes, right, you're going
to d C.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Yeah for volleyball.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Yeah, the Capitol paintings, right, yeah, this volleyball stuff expensive.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Ma, I'm down to the two years are already committed. Why
don't you cut this out?

Speaker 7 (04:40):
You know what?

Speaker 2 (04:41):
It's funny you are on ice. I almost like, let's
bubble wrap her. Yeah, let's not. You know how ACL
injuries no, no, you know how they don't like college
football players don't play in the bowl games because they
want to make sure their draft stock is good, has
been drafted already. Our volleyball injury is very common there
as common as any other injuries. You can run out
of people. You could turn an ankle, you can, I mean,

(05:02):
there's lighting things you can happen. I mean I would
I would say it's not nearly as you know. It
sound like you're getting up and down the floor. In basketball,
there's a very small court. Yeah, but you can still jumping. Yeah, right,
and you're not and you're landing on a you know. Now,
they have these volleyball courts that are laid down on
the Convention Center floors, but they're not built of uh

(05:23):
soft cotton, I mean.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
To put a pad down.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
They do, okay, but it's still jumping up and down
multiple times in a very short period of time.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Okay, that's fine. I think I got away with that one.
We'll see, we'll.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
See seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seventy. By the way,
congratulations to all of you that voted on the poll question,
which I believe ends pretty quick. Uh, it's pretty much
consensus that Valentine's Day should be eliminated. It's just and
to your point yesterday, you were right, every holiday is commercialized.
Oh yeah, but but this is one of this is

(06:00):
this is the one.

Speaker 7 (06:01):
This is one.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
I'm the most invented out of nowhere commercialized ones.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
Because Thanksgiving there was a you know, settlers and the well,
nobody got. That's what Thanksgiving to me is my favorite.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Nobody's giving gifts we're just going We're gonna hang out
and have a bunch of good food and watch the football.
It's it's the EA's the goat. It's what you want,
oh my god. And it's the leftover's day. And there's
three football games. I'm usually college basketball gamer two.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
It's a goat. It's the best.

Speaker 6 (06:27):
You know.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
It's funny because in my family, Christmas is number one,
obviously with the gifts. Halloweens number two. But you don't
even get a day off necessarily. It could be on
a Wednesday, No you don't. But it's you get the
neighbors around you, pass out candy, you see uh, naughty
nurses and noughty teachers. And it's the super Bowl dressing
like a skink. It's great at your twenties. Oh yeah,

(06:50):
but you gotta stay in.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
You'llet this a.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
Little bit later. You're in your forties now, congratulations hitting
the forty club. God, forty to forty eight is not
going to be terrible for you.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Uh, you got some forty to forty three, forty four
that want ToxT day. They think they're still in their thirties,
and if they can pull it off, it's great, hmm.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
I don't know what you're saying.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
But like a naughty account at forty three, I mean
she was probably not an accountant.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
Yeah, nobody's dressing up like a naughty accountant. You don't
know that. What do they have into it? Turbo tax
outfit on?

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Yeah, they got a calculator in their chat on their chest,
you know, in the in the side pocket. No, all right,
So yeah, Christmas is number one, Halloween number two, and
I would say Valentine's Day is seventeen eighteenth on the list.
I mean I would say probably Flag days seems to
be more valuable for us as the family.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
Well, really, do you have a World Day? Harbor Day?
Do you go playing trees? We could? You know, Okay,
we'll do it, all right.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
So on the radio program today, checking with Gordy at
eleven o'clock at Lance mccullor is just going to speak
in West Palm Beach. Really, I mean that's great, it's nice.
Is he questionable to speak or is he going to speak?
I believe he is scheduled to speak, so we'll find
out if what he's got going on there is. This
is day two of pictures and Catchers working out down
in West Palm Beach, and Gordy's going to check in

(08:06):
with us at eleven o'clock at new will wake the
strippers up and the news at noon at one o'clock.
Greg Rajan from the Houston Chronicle is going to join us.
You know, today's the thirtieth anniversary of the Clyde Directs
or trade from Portland to Houston. Okay, so he'd did
some background stories talking to Clyde, talking to Rudy, talking
some of the people. He talked to me because I

(08:28):
was there, and so we'll talk to him. You were there,
you were sick. I thought I was sick, but I
still went Okay, I wasn't missing that.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
Are you kidding me?

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Announce Clyde director for the first time wearing a rocket hat.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
Great job.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
You weren't around. I was talking about what I was
doing in third grade. That's what I'll do in the interview.
You were the third grade in nineteen twenty five. Uh,
I guess fourth grade. Well, you had to repeat a
couple of times, so I know you didn't repeat nor
one twenty Today the return of the Fantasy five recurring

(09:03):
SNL characters. Now I got news for you. If you're
worried about putting together the list. It will not take
you along because there's a several websites that have the
list of the best recurring characters of all time. So
you got a cheat sheet, you're gonna be able to use.
It just spends on all personal preferences. Okay, when are
we drafting?

Speaker 3 (09:19):
I don't get a good list.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
We're gonna draft in about six minutes here, No, I
need I need to get bottom of the how we're
gonna draft. We told you this yesterday because Connor's like,
you need as much time as possible.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
I've been sick. I went to the doctor.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
You need to go to the doctor. So you look better,
thank you. I mean you got a few more grades
in the hair. But on the night you look fine.

Speaker 3 (09:35):
M hm h.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
And then we believe it or not today at one fifty.
So we've got a very busy show for you today.

Speaker 6 (09:39):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Now, you were resting yesterday, I'm glad you were. Apparently,
Aman Thompson for the most part, Dylan Brooks, Alprin, Shingoon,
Jalen Green and company were can went more resting in
the first half of the game against the Golden State
Warriors yesterday Rossen. I don't like losing to anybody, Okay,
I especially don't like losing to a Golden State team
that's five hundre that played on the road in Dallas

(10:01):
the night before. That's their game started an hour and
forty five minutes after our game started. And they came
in here and they looked like they owned the place
yet again.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
So why are you shocked? But I'm tired of being shocked.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
I mean, they the Rocket starters and rotation guys early
looked like they want to be anywhere else but he Houston,
but the Tota Center last night. Yeah, I mean we
talked with coach about it yesterday. He said that's it's
a big concern of his every year. The day the game,
after the game before the All Star break. But it
wasn't concerned that Steve Kerr. They played fine. No, they
didn't seem to match. It didn't seem to mind at all.

(10:38):
Something called Pat Spencer was shooting shots and making them.
Brandon Pojemski was pretty good on a high volume. Curry
was not great, but he shot a lot and got
the free throw on a bunch of times, and the
Rockets made a massive comeback being down by as much
as twenty four points that got to within two because

(10:59):
of Nate Williams, Jack Landell, Jeff Green, Jay Shawn Tate,
and a mix of Aaron Holliday and a Men Thompson.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
And that's who coach ran with.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
And I mean ran the entire base, well all the
fourth quarter and a lot of the third. You think
the you think the starters are like, eh, it's All
Star Break, you know't no big deal. I want the
home court in the first round of the playoffs. I'm
being greedy, af Okay, I won a third or second
or third Well, I'm telling you, uh, Clippers won last night.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
Minnesota won last night.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
It is going to be a fight to the finish
for a top six spot in the Western Conference. And
I was very disappointed. I guarantee you emay don't. It
was very disappointed in how the team came out yesterday, Okay.
And with that, we take our first time out it
is anything goes Friday at seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two

(11:57):
five seven nine zero. We take this program to two
OClO today. It isn't anything goes Friday. Here on seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
Matt Thomas and Ross by a real two guys, extremely
passionate about Houston sports.

Speaker 3 (12:10):
You can tell them to go get a room.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
We've shared a hotel room, but they already have and
I've shared a band.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
Thanks for the visual pillow in between.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
There's no pillow between you and more lunchtime Houston Sports
Talk on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
And when Ross and I go to Florida next week,
we'll have two queen beds in our room.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
Wow, playing pillows queens.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
Yeah, and the hotel is significantly more expensive than that.
Last time it was two army surplus cots. No, we're
just share one blanket. It was a little Yeah. Ross
likes it cold in the room, so all right, it
isn't anything goes Friday here on the Matt Thomas showed
Ross seven one three two one two five seven nine
zero seven on three two one two five seven nine zero.

(13:04):
Lance mcculor speaks, And I've seen already what Chris Gordy
is sending through Twitter.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
And I guess I haven't even looked. I was looking
at sl characters.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Yeah, well, we don't draft him up in a minute, Okay,
it's a topic that I just shake him ahead about
what guy, what do you what do you think even
the mccullors thing. Yeah, what's the let's see, Oh adversity. No,
everybody's got adversity. That's nothing new.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
Oh he's he's just gonna say that he wants to compete.
He wants to.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
Uh, he's taking it one day at a time, of course. Yeah,
he's taking it slow. Yeah, those are not he wants
to be ready, he wants to and he wants to
help this team this year.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
Yeah. Those are all things that would not be a
shakeable head moment.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
Okay, I thought maybe adversity might make you share. No, no,
because everybody has adversity. Okay, what he wants to be
a starter? What do you mean he's a starter? What
are you talking about? Why would you put him in
the bullpen? He's never come out of the bullpen because
he's going.

Speaker 3 (13:59):
To be.

Speaker 2 (14:01):
Lance is a middle reliever for the rest of his life.
He doesn't know this yet. Why because he, first of all,
can't get on a mound and expect him to throw
ninety ninety five pitches every five days.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
Is just not asking. It's just not realistic.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
If Lance comes back, he's come in my mind now
again I want him to.

Speaker 3 (14:19):
I want him to prove me wrong.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
But for a guy that has missed basically what two
and a half years, m h, give me an inning
every other day. That's small steps, baby, small steps, I mean,
middle relief would be fine. You certainly don't want to
mis he walks too many people. He's gonna go out
there and walk everything anymore? Yeah, he does. I don't remember.
I mean, I'm and I look, if you want to

(14:45):
get some rate of return back, because right now it's
zero once every twice a week, one inning and a third,
let's go. Of course, it's going to depend on how
he is physically and all that type, right, But I mean,
he's making eighteen million dollars a year. If he's an
eighteen million, he's making eighteen He needs me out there
starting unless you're gonna be that's the Josh hater level. Well, No,
the contract for Lance is a loss. There's there's nothing

(15:08):
he can do at this point in his career to
make up for that money.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
Yeah, but on the years going forward on it, you
want to win on those. What's the guy left? I
don't know, one or two years.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
I'm gonna say two three, maybe two three five eighty
five that he signed for it is.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
Five like seventy seven or so, okay or no, it was.

Speaker 7 (15:25):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
And at the time, as long as he pitched, it
was good value. But we kept saying, well, you know,
as a good friend of ours, one set attendance is.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
Part of the grade. M hm, and five eighty five
that's what it was, five eighty five. So that's seventeen
a year. Mm hmmmm.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
Look again, it's not worked out well for the Astros.
They've still been able to win despite him not being
out there. It was a roll of the dice. When
he's out there, he pitches close to an ACE level
at the least like a two guy, and having a
guy who's a number two starter making eighteen million dollars
is a huge win. But fortunately it's been a huge

(16:01):
l Yeah. I don't even think about the money. He's
a free agent. I think about just so neck. This
is his last year. He's a free agent after next year.
Oh so he's got two years left, Okay, Sorry? Yeah,
I mean to me, my expectations are so minimal that
if I get him on the mound, it's a win.
I'm just not necessarily worried about how many innings or
if he's a part of Now, if he Ross can

(16:23):
be a part of the rotation, that's fantastic news. But
I mean he's missed a lot of times. It's like
it's like Forest Whitley. For Whitley was supposed to be
a starter for this organization. He well, he they need
starting pitching. I know you think Ryan Gusto is gonna
come out here and win as young No, I didn't
say that that quote and I quote.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
No, but you need starting pitching Debt two.

Speaker 7 (16:46):
But I can't.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
I'm not having a viable buys right now. I'm not
trusting him to be that guy.

Speaker 5 (16:50):
No.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
You know, look, it's found money and he can give you.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
Yeah, I mean I got until we hear something from
Joe Aspota or or Dana Brown. Otherwise, Look, I wouldn't
be shocked if he goes to the bullpen if they
want to say, hey, we're trying to limit your innings
and keep you healthy. Now, what would be the reason
he does have what he does have in his corner
is he has been a starter all of his life,

(17:14):
So he's obviously revving up to be that now, just
because mentally you want to get back on the mount
every fifth day, it doesn't mean your arm's gonna let
you do that. And secondly, you know, I don't think
he's thinking, well, I'm just gonna just mail my rest
of my career in by just being a one inning guy.
You know, remember the askers already have one high price

(17:36):
middle releiver that they're paying for now they're kind of
on the hook for two.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
But my point is.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
My I guess my issue is, let's just take small
steps in this build up. Get him on the mound
playing in a manor League game, as compared to these
side these videos that we see about once every thirty
days about him throwing on the side, looking good, good movement,
good velo. Maybe just throw puss the rest of the time.
His last full years a starter was twenty one. We're

(18:04):
into twenty five. We're into twenty five. He finished seventh
in syhung voting. He's good and he likes playing indoors.
We know that he also led the league in walks
with seventy six. Yeah, I don't think you can use
First of all, his arm has been in his arm,
his forearm, his elbow, his everything in part of that
arm he's like the six million dollar man. I'm not

(18:25):
using any other that's good. Well, then the six million
dollar man didn't break down. It's all bionic. She did
good until he hung out with the bionic woman, and
then she broke him down.

Speaker 3 (18:33):
She did, She broke him down? Were they breaking each
other down? How did that go? Pretty much?

Speaker 2 (18:37):
The lost sparks flying I'm not This is all flying
over my head. I didn't watch the show. I didn't either,
but well, you know, they were both hurting big accidents,
and they were repelled, they were rebuilt by bonding parts.
Seems very realistic, right, yeah, I guess. So all right,
let's go to the phone. He's got him as an opener.
Let's go throw him out there for like three innings
and then move on and like a middle g.

Speaker 8 (19:00):
I like that.

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Actually, that's not a terrible trap. Him out at three innings,
fifty pitches, and you may be in a night where
you have to go to a six man rotation.

Speaker 5 (19:06):
M hm.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
I just think if he's really trying hard, which it
clearly is, to get back, I'm not putting any pressure
on him to pitch every fifth day. And by the way,
if I'm putting him out, Rossie. If I'm putting him
in my starting rotation, I need him to throw ninety pitches.
Dana Brown has spoken on Lance mccullor's junior being a
reliever earlier today or within the last few minutes. Can

(19:29):
I guess yeah, I think it should be easy for you.
Our plans are going to be a starter. Dana Brown
alluded to Lance mccullor's unior perhaps transitioning to a reliever.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
This is from Chandler Rome.

Speaker 7 (19:39):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (19:40):
Mccullor said, I don't know where that came from. Hmm, okay,
so Dana Brown alluded to it. Sorry is all I
have question. I thought he was backing. I misread the tweet.
That's that's on me. That's my fault. I'd like to
apologize to all the listeners. It was a Dana Brown
illusion and then he Land mccolors junior. Subsequent quote which

(20:02):
we'll be having in moments very soon. Eric and Bay
City on Anything goes Friday, Eric, good morning to you.

Speaker 6 (20:09):
And anything will go.

Speaker 9 (20:11):
Matt Ross, good morning to you guys as well. You
know I'm sitting here looking at our projected rotation with
Spencer rag Getty in it and Hayden west Nesky, who
we know even less about but has to be better
than Araghetty Erraic Getty.

Speaker 3 (20:26):
Was good last year at the end the second half
of the season.

Speaker 10 (20:28):
Trash, You shit there, you're going to criticize what.

Speaker 3 (20:31):
My take is this morning when I no question with.

Speaker 10 (20:34):
Because because but Spencer Araghedty at the same era as
that Grenky essentially in his last season, and Spencer Eric
I'm sorry, Glance mccullors hasn't pitched in two years? Is
that Greenky only took one year off, which is probably
good at his age.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
He's also fifty five years old.

Speaker 10 (20:50):
Okay, good. We get some of that social Security money
to supplement his salary, so we.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
Don't know how that works.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
I don't think there's offsetting language in the in the
contract about social Security.

Speaker 10 (21:01):
Well, either way, we could use him as a pinch
hitter for Jake Myers and Chas mccan't hit every seventh
or eighth inning, so that maybe we have a chance
to get somebody on base. Was that grinky? We're in
a huge hole here with Ara Getty and west Nesky
starting the season this rotation. I think we're gonna.

Speaker 11 (21:19):
Finish behind the Rangers, behind the Angels and the Mariners
right now, because we have thrown so much bad money
out there after Rafao Montero, Lance McCullers, JOSEA.

Speaker 10 (21:30):
Bray, You, Jeff well.

Speaker 3 (21:32):
Go get another at the end of his contract.

Speaker 10 (21:35):
No, listen, we could get Zach Greenky at a very
value bargain beIN Pryce right now. I believe that one
hundred percent, and other teams as signed Scherzer and Verlander
and all these other grandfathers to be Why can't we
have ours.

Speaker 3 (21:49):
Eric, it's not happening. Drop it, Eric, he didn't pitch
at all in twenty four.

Speaker 10 (21:53):
He'd be the best pinch hitter we have put him
in the outfield. He's got to be better than what
we're looking at right now.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
You are correct that is era of zero last year
is better than better than the Spencer Raghetti's. Have you
noticed something during this two minute stretch here? What I'm
not said a word? Okay, No, I didn't notice. Yeah,
well I want you to notice. Okay, we'll notice now
that you told us.

Speaker 3 (22:12):
I'm one not involved in those conversations any further.

Speaker 2 (22:16):
First of all, Eric, in Bay City, we love you,
like A said, we love you Eric, but I'm afraid
you're sniffing more glue than you normally do. He went
from the Elmer's glue to the month to that monkey
you know, the monkey glue that sticks, that doesn't let
ever let you know you get it attached to your hand.
You never go look at the gorilla, that monkey glue. Yeah,

(22:36):
so more of the Great eight family. He's stiff, he's
he's sniff of the good stuff now. Uh, Spencer Raic
Ghetty after the All Star Break last year three point
zero four era and twelve starts. So you're saying there's
a chance pretty good hashtag future Ace ten thirty. It
isn't anything goes Friday on the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.

Speaker 3 (22:55):
This is Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (22:57):
Back to Matt Thomas and Ross VIIa. I'll find one
Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 7 (23:13):
All right.

Speaker 2 (23:14):
The picks are in on the S and L recurring characters, and.

Speaker 3 (23:21):
I like both lists. I don't.

Speaker 2 (23:26):
I don't know if it's gonna be close. But that's
okay because there's so many great recurring characters.

Speaker 3 (23:30):
I'm not worried about it. I don't think you would
be worried about it. It's gonna be great. It's gonna
be fine. We got this.

Speaker 2 (23:36):
Sorry, I gotta sell this. I just know I've been
feeling down and sick, Matt. Sleep hasn't been great. I'm sorry.
It's gonna be better for you.

Speaker 7 (23:43):
Are you really?

Speaker 3 (23:45):
I need you to hang till two o'clock and then
you go back to your norumble.

Speaker 2 (23:47):
I'm drinking, gonna average, I'm gonna get some more coffee,
all right, Monday where I'm out, you're gonna be in Monday.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
We will all address you from West Palm Beach. That's okay,
gotta gotta think about Tuesday. Let's get the Tuesday baby. Okay,
great guest. Anecdotal things. Warmer weather, hmm, can't wait. You
were short? It depends on the weather. Yeah, I shorts
before I know, but I'm just my legs are so
milky white. It's just embarrassing.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
Get them out there in the sun, Matt. You gotta
let those dogs bark.

Speaker 2 (24:17):
You think, Okay, what why don't we do that? Why
don't we Why don't we do it before and after photo?
Oh no, I don't want to.

Speaker 3 (24:22):
I don't want to be made fun of on Twitter.
Let's get you some sundown.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
No, let's do that you like, So go stop by
a little mall means and go get something. Now that
we're off at two instead of three, we can hit
the beach. You wanna go catch a sunset with me? Matt,
I've got plans already the whole trip. What at least
one of the night you're gonna leave me hanging dry? No,
I'll give you the car. Oh this is you're gonna say, card,
give me the card, and we gotta do. I'll give

(24:46):
you a car and the car Rachel's it is seven
one three two one two five seven on the audio
coming in from West Palm Beach. And we'll give you
some of that coming up here, Charlotte. Let's say hello
to Neigel at ten thirty six on Anything Goes Far.
He meja, what do you got today?

Speaker 12 (25:02):
Good morning guys. So I gotta I got a hypothetical
for you.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
Since this is Anything goes So?

Speaker 12 (25:08):
You know, uh, Nico's pretty hated man up there in
Dallas right now. So what if he had a conversation
with Luca and he said, Luca, I don't think we
have enough pieces here to to to win it all.
We we we've got to make some kind of moves.
So we're gonna make this move with La go over there.

(25:30):
You got a chance for this season. Uh, finish out
this season. Next season, you got a whole season. Maybe
you can win one. You can opt out of your contract,
then come back home. We'll have a three headed monster.
We're gonna give you a max deal. Would Nico not
become to go from the dumbest general manager to the

(25:50):
to the most brilliant general manager of all time.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
He's gonna lose his trade and maybe get destroyed for it.
I mean, it's at this point, it's too early. We
will grade this trade out in two or three years.
I don't think there's any sort of pivot to it.
You have traded.

Speaker 3 (26:13):
Maybe.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
I mean, would you say the Mavericks see the second
greatest Maverick of all time already in his young NBA career.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
I mean it's dirt number one.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
You could go back to the eighties with Markguire and
Roy Tarpley and Jason Kidd Steve.

Speaker 3 (26:30):
I mean, Lucas the second greatest Maverick of all time.

Speaker 2 (26:33):
Probably, So you just traded the second best player ever
to play for that franchise early in his career.

Speaker 3 (26:39):
He is not even twenty six years old.

Speaker 2 (26:41):
Yet, Nigel, this is going to be a loss for him,
and it's just going to be how bad of a
loss it's going to be?

Speaker 3 (26:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 12 (26:47):
Well, my thing was is what if Luca comes back
when he opts out of his Lakers contract and then
you know, they got the assets and the pieces from
LA and now they have a super team.

Speaker 2 (26:58):
I can't imagine that happened. I can't imagine. First of all,
he lost he lost a super Max. He can't get
the Supermax now, so he can go anywhere he wants,
but he's not going to get more money in Dallas
than he would somewhere else. The way he was going
to make the super Max money was by staying with
the Mavericks. And when the Mavericks would have offered him
that money, he would have accepted it because they would
have been able to give him more money than any
other NBA team. Why would you go to a team

(27:21):
that traded you away?

Speaker 3 (27:25):
And basically.

Speaker 2 (27:28):
I don't know, you're thank you, Negil. That's a little
conspiracy there, No, I don't. I think I think Lucas
days is the Maverick at least under this current administration.

Speaker 3 (27:38):
Are over.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
Yeah, and remember this was ownership signing off of this.

Speaker 3 (27:43):
You do not.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
Nico Harrison's got power just like Amy general manager does Ross.
But if you try away your franchise player, you better
get the call from the top and says okay, if
you don't tell the owner, you're going to get fired. Yeah,
it's absolutely had to be signed off on because here's
the reality of it. They didn't want to pay three
hundred million dollars for a doey guy who doesn't keep
himself in good shape. He's got a history of ailments

(28:06):
and bitches about referees with.

Speaker 3 (28:07):
The Dowey card.

Speaker 2 (28:08):
Again, it's so such a low I mean, he is Dowey,
but if he ever got himself in a really good shape,
he could own LA. I think he's going to I
think he's going I think he's going to too. I
think I think that he will be a not that
we're gonna sit there and stare at him, but he's
going to be a leaner, meaner looking guy because it's

(28:29):
gonna be around an organization and said, hey, we're gonna
pay you this great money to stay here long term.
We're making you the franchis, We're taking you and putting
you in the number one spot and taking the greatest
player or the second greatest player of all time and
making him the second guy. That's how important that Lukadanci
is the death to the LA. Also, Lebron's forty. If
Lebron's in his prime, that's true. But you know what's funny,

(28:50):
I and you're not the only one does this. He
and his prime, But he and chap Lever, he still
puts up. He wakes up twenty eight and six or
twenty five. I think he's at twenty. He's at twenty
four seven rebounds and like nine assists the game. That's
what the one of the two greatest players in the association,
dude does you're you're not. He's not fighting father time.

(29:13):
I don't think the Rockets have a player. They don't
have a player averaging twenty four points a game. They
don't have a player averaging nine assists a game. No,
the Rockets and they're in the West playoffs. No, that's correct.

Speaker 3 (29:24):
That's insane. And he's forty. Yeah, and he probably can play,
I mean comfortably to his forty five.

Speaker 2 (29:29):
Yeah, we'll see. He hadn't played a lot of games.
He hadn't played he's played around fifty sixty games lost.
We'll probably see him getting hurt. We'll probably see at
some point him go down to a role player, a
six man. But I don't see him being the end
of the bench guy ever in his career. I don't
think he knows he has to retire before that happened.
His averages are going to suffer too much. He's already

(29:50):
got all the totals he needs. Is there anything else
he wants? Is he wanna be the all time assists leader?
Is that what he wants?

Speaker 3 (29:55):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (29:56):
Like, he played seventy one games last year, but before that,
he hadn't played seventy games since twenty eighteen. He's top
five and assists correct all time. Yeah, he's behind like
Chris Paul or Chasing Kidd. It's like Magic Johnson. It's
John Stockton, Magic Johnson, Chris Paul or Jason Kidd and
then Lebron like all time. So not only does he
score a boltload of points number one all time, but

(30:16):
he's also handing the ball to other people to score. Yes,
he's also number one in UH turnovers all time, but
he's played a while. Nobody's perfect. He's number one misshots
all time. Yeah, he's fourth and assists Stockton Paul Kidd.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
That's it.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
He's ahead of Nash. He's a chance to get to
the top. He's ahead of Magic. No, he can't catch Stockton.
He can catch maybe Chris Paul if that dude will retire.
He is nine hundred behind Chris Paul. Chris Paul's not retiring.
He's got dearon Fox and Victor women Yama there, he's
he's very happy. M Yeah, but apparently there are people
who think that he continues to be in that lineup

(30:51):
just so they can kind of kind of like a
soft tank the spurs helpful, kind of like, yeah, can
we stay out of the pilos.

Speaker 3 (30:59):
I've not looked his minutes and is deer deer and
Fox has gotten there.

Speaker 2 (31:02):
He's playing more than he should. That's what the That's
what the Twitter basketball Twitter streets are saying.

Speaker 3 (31:07):
Those streets can be quite mean.

Speaker 2 (31:09):
They can be all right, Hey, let's get you some
audio from what's happening down in Florida that's coming in
as are is it intrepid reporters that were call him, Yes,
the intrepid reporter Chris Gordy. It's gonna join us in
about fifteen minutes too. We're gonna hear from what's happening
right there in fest palmb Neck, Palm Beach next ten
forty three Anything Goes Friday seven one three two one
two five.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
Seven ninety Matt Thomas Ross VIIEL It's the Matt Thomas
Show with Ross on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (31:50):
Ten forty eight.

Speaker 2 (31:51):
It is a Anything Goes Friday, Sports Talk seven ninety
We'll wake the strippers up at twelve noon.

Speaker 3 (31:58):
By the way, are the ups working.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
A lot today?

Speaker 3 (32:02):
I feel like is a is a gang?

Speaker 8 (32:05):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (32:05):
Is it? Is that a good day to be a stripper?

Speaker 2 (32:07):
If you're a regular and you're always giving your your
stripper a bunch of money, all your money, you're pouring
your paycheck, do you show up on Valentine's Day? I
mean that reeks even more than desperation than normal.

Speaker 3 (32:18):
It's pretty bad.

Speaker 2 (32:19):
It's like do you do you give your wife perfume
and flowers and candy and then say, hey, I gotta
make a have a five o'clock happy hour with some clients,
and then you wind up going to the strip club.
I mean, if you're a scumbag, tell me tell me
that's never happened before, then I'll believe you. I didn't
say it doesn't happen. Okay, yeah, So if you're if

(32:42):
you know anybody that's in the stripping world, is today
a good day or a bad day for you? I
would think today would be a bad day. It's in
the stripping world now, side piece day. The next day
is like tomorrow is a great day for you.

Speaker 3 (32:54):
I don't know. It's a Saturday. It might be tough
to get away from the kids.

Speaker 2 (33:00):
Hey, but if you get her a bunch of nice
stuff and she's like, oh yeah, go out with plenty
golf with your buddies, go play some golf today.

Speaker 3 (33:05):
Why there's warming up a little bit. I'm just again,
I don't I don't know that. Why is your tea
time at eight pm? I don't playing night golf? Honey.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
Why do you think it's necessary to play golf in
Dallas today? And you want a hotel for the night? Yeah, okay, sure, honey,
have your Valentine's Day all right, Let's get down to
what's Palm Beach. What's happening down with the local nine
or the local twenty six of the local forty or
the local. How many guys are in roster. That's probably
about the local seventy five down there camp, right now,
that's right, that's right, that's okay, all.

Speaker 3 (33:34):
Right, Matt. So actually, let's go straight to.

Speaker 2 (33:36):
Something we've been talking about, Lance mccullor's junior. You know,
every year we get some kind of pet topic. It's
spring training. Is Lance mccullor's junior the spring training locked
and loaded pet topic. Well, Joe Spotta says, that's Colors
Junior wants to be out there.

Speaker 3 (33:55):
Better than he has handled that better than.

Speaker 5 (34:00):
You know.

Speaker 6 (34:00):
This guy wants to be on on the field.

Speaker 3 (34:03):
He has pitched huge gains for us. You know, while
I've been here.

Speaker 2 (34:08):
I saw him in seventeen shove it up, you know,
against us when I was on the other side of
the field.

Speaker 3 (34:14):
So I respect that about Lance.

Speaker 13 (34:16):
I've seen how how bad he wants it, So.

Speaker 2 (34:20):
I'm just happy that he is close to getting back
on the mountain.

Speaker 3 (34:24):
Contributing what exactly do you say shove it up?

Speaker 2 (34:27):
Is that what he said is that the origin of
shove Now, I don't like when people are like, oh man,
Lance with Colors Junior went out there and he shoved
it's just not a phrase that as I'm a fan of,
I would never use it myself, but I understand that
the context saying it.

Speaker 3 (34:41):
I don't know why.

Speaker 2 (34:41):
I can't even it's like a it's like an odd
pet peeve that I can't explain. But is that what
it's shorthand for? Did I miss this this whole time?
Is it shorthand for shove it up?

Speaker 7 (34:51):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (34:52):
You mean the finishing? No?

Speaker 2 (34:53):
No, I don't I maybe it is. Yeah, I don't know.
Maybe I have to ask the kids. Yeah, tweet at
sports empty let us know because I didn't know that.

Speaker 3 (35:04):
But there you go.

Speaker 2 (35:05):
He said, he wants to be out there, and he's
good when he's out there, and this is the important one.
Matt Lantom Coullors Junior asked about being a reliever.

Speaker 3 (35:16):
He says he has no idea where that came from.

Speaker 13 (35:18):
Yeah, I don't know where that came from.

Speaker 7 (35:21):
But I don't think.

Speaker 13 (35:23):
I don't think that's an easy job.

Speaker 7 (35:25):
And being a reliever.

Speaker 13 (35:26):
I think a lot of times, you know, people almost say, well,
just make him a reliever. I mean, that's not an
easy thing to do, to be a reliever at the
big league level. It's not like a fallback position. I
think that it's doing a disservice to the guys who
are in that in that role, it's very specific, it's
very hard, and I don't think pitching you know, back
to back days or even you know, you know, three

(35:47):
out of four days. For me, I think it's physically harder.
I think the things that the guys in the bolten
have to deal with throughout a long season, the ups
and down in usages, not really knowing when they're going
to be called upon. Sometimes that's not it's a harder
in my opinion, it's a harder it's a harder job.
It's a harder way to stay healthy. And I'm and so,
like I said, it's not just something that you can

(36:09):
just decide you wake up one day and feel like,
you know, you know.

Speaker 2 (36:11):
Being a reliever.

Speaker 13 (36:12):
It's a very specific job. I think suggesting otherwise is
a disservice to the guys in the bullpen that have
you know, in our pen, and then every pinning around
the league. And so you know, for me, I'm I'm
interested in doing what what I've always done, is what
I know. That's what I feel like I can I
can give this team them.

Speaker 3 (36:27):
You know, the most successful was he doing that?

Speaker 2 (36:30):
Was he saying those things to protect his bros, his
fellow bull ben guys who have been in the bullpen
that have worked the way to the big leagues out
of the bullpen. Uh, he's not protecting them, He's deflecting.
It's just a deflection. So oh, because he doesn't want
to go out there and say like, no, I'm not
a freaking reliever. I'm gonna go out there and be

(36:50):
out there for six seven innings because I'm one of
the best pictures on the planet. Because of the implication
is that why are guys in the bullpen in the
first place. They're not going to be starting filt. So
he didn't want to spin it that way, so he
spun it the other way.

Speaker 3 (37:02):
It's a spin.

Speaker 2 (37:04):
Yeah, that to me was a lot of spin for
whatever direction you want to spin it.

Speaker 3 (37:09):
But it was a spin. It was a spin.

Speaker 2 (37:10):
But to also say I ain't gonna be I'm not
gonna be coming out of the bullpen, or i don't
want to come out of the bullpen, and it hasn't
been discussed, and he said he doesn't know, he doesn't
know where that idea came from well, it came from
Dana Brown, right. I mean, I don't think we made
that up. He was alluded to. Yeah, but apparently when
you look, they had some internal discussions about it. Probably,
oh did they? You know, those internal discussions are quite lengthy.

(37:31):
That was on the checklist besides Bregman m hm, he
wants to be a starter. I bet I could find
I don't know this for a fact, but let me
just educated guess. I bet I could find ten pitching
coaches slash sports medicine slash doctors and say, you know what,

(37:51):
pitching every five days, your normal speed, throwing seventy five
to ninety five pitches, normal recovery time for guy it's
had a lot of injuries.

Speaker 3 (38:02):
Okay, that makes sense as compared to pitching in consecutive days.

Speaker 2 (38:06):
Yeah, I could also I could also find probably five
or six guys that would say, you know what, pitching
twice a week, three times a week, fifteen pitches is
going to keep you. Is gonna keep your arm loose,
it's gonna keep your elbow going, it's not going to
put too much pressure and strain on you, and you've
got a chance to have a longer career ross My
relievers typically have longer careers than starters do.

Speaker 3 (38:28):
And also, this is just off the top of my head.

Speaker 2 (38:32):
Doesn't it feel like the vast majority of the time
you hear about somebody getting Tommy John, it's a starter. Absolutely,
Who's okay, we've had there's been some or I'm talking
about just hearing astros recently mccullors Verlander, who's the last
Astro's a reliever to have Tommy John? And this is
just one team sample size, but I'm not sure if

(38:54):
we did some data on this, it's probably starters.

Speaker 3 (38:56):
I refuse to believe.

Speaker 2 (39:00):
Here's the argument, and I'm not a doctor, nor I've
been in a baseball training room. I refuse to believe
it's going to be harder for him to come back.

Speaker 3 (39:08):
Now.

Speaker 2 (39:09):
If he's a closer throwing ninety eight in two consecutive
games or three days in three games and four days,
I can buy that. But if Lance mccullors is ever
going to make the transition of the bullpen, which sounds
like he doesn't want to do, that's not the role
of the Astros probably are looking for. They've already got
their closer. They've already got their eighth inning guy. Honestly,
you're looking for a probably a more recognizable seventh inning guy,

(39:33):
and well he could get in that mix, or what
if he if he were that good, they're not going
to be like, you know what, you're a dominant reliever.

Speaker 3 (39:39):
We're good. Mm hmm. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (39:42):
I again, you could find I can think you could
find different opinions from different people about what would be
best for Lance to maintain a major league career. I
think he's going to start be a starter. I think
they're going to try to make him a starter, and
I think they need starting pitching help. I think it
makes it in all lines, all lines up for me
from a strike investment standpoint. He want him to be

(40:02):
a starter. You've paid him to be a starter. Although
it all points to okay, he wants to be a starter.
He thinks he's a starter. You get more value from
the contract if he's a starter, and you need starting pitching.
And I understand all that, and I don't disagree with you,
but there's one thing that's wrong. His arm doesn't believe you.
His arm does not agree with you, and he his
arm does agree with me. His arms, his arms throwing
fine right now he's gonna throw Game six in the

(40:23):
World Series tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (40:24):
Is he pitching? No, probably not. It's Game six the
World Series a month now, pitching February. He pitching. Give
him some time. I've been giving him time. He's just
giving him time. Yeah, all we do is give him
time after time. All right, anything else? Sure? You want

(40:46):
to talk about him him pitching.

Speaker 2 (40:47):
He wants to get some games in and he's gonna
be pitching spring training, he says.

Speaker 13 (40:51):
Thrown seven pins, which is a good amount, which is
coming through like an off season. I'll throw another pen
I think Sunday, and probably a couple more and then
looking at face hitters, I love to I love to
get in some games for the end of the camp
and you know, from there, probably break a Triple A.
It's been a little while since i've you know, really
faced competition. Spring training is good, but it's not you know,

(41:14):
there's a little bit of a gap from spring to
the season. So I think it would I think we
all feel it would be the best to try to
get a game or twitter my belt down here in
Florida and then probably go to Triple A before you know,
making a decision to join back.

Speaker 3 (41:27):
Before making the decision let's go. I'm I'm you know
what I'm going.

Speaker 2 (41:32):
I didn't like that part, you didn't like the last
place before making a decision to come back everything.

Speaker 3 (41:40):
I just said.

Speaker 2 (41:41):
I don't want to speak for our audience, but I
would take ninety percent of our audience that aren't considered
themselves astro fans are listening to this and going, wake
me up when it's real. Okay, well we can all
say that and that's fair, and we'll get an update
from Chris Gordy.

Speaker 3 (41:57):
He's ready to go.

Speaker 2 (41:57):
I want to hear from the doctors on away, from
Lance who thinks he's gonna be out there, from Dana
who's just gonna give us double speak. We're gonna hear
from doctor Gordy next, really who irritates his client. Him
and Lance wolf see have the relationship that's true. Ten
on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 1 (42:15):
Ninety lunchtimers, This is the Matt Thomas Show, eleven O two.

Speaker 2 (42:22):
Sports Talk seven ninety and as Anything Goes Friday and
we go to West Palm Beach for an update on
what's happening with the local nine. We just played some
Lance mccolors and Joe A spotted the man getting that
audio and checking in the sights of Astro spring training
as Chris Gordy, Chris, have you and Lance mccollor is
made up?

Speaker 6 (42:39):
I think we did ask some about his kids. Is
his daughter's five now? Which is crazy because I remember
when she was born. You know, it's it's it's always crazy.
These guys have been with the clubs for so long.
But it was good to hear from Glance. It's been
a while since we've heard from him. So let's hope
we could see him in a baseball action this year.

Speaker 3 (42:55):
All right.

Speaker 6 (42:56):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (42:57):
He alluded to the fact that that Dana Brown allude
to the bullpen.

Speaker 3 (43:01):
Did you hear Dana speak to this at all?

Speaker 2 (43:03):
Are they Is this going off of previous conversations? Why
do you think it was brought I mean, I know
the reason I was brought up, but I'm wondering why
Lance was so quick to dismiss it.

Speaker 6 (43:14):
Yeah, it's a Taylor Roman. I was just talking. He
brought up that that data brought that up at the
winter meetings back in December, that you know that there
was the possibility that McCullers can move to the bullpen.
But yeah, I mean anybody who's ever talked to mc colors,
you know, he's a He's a guy wants to be
a starter, is a starter, and so yeah, I think
he you know, he was pretty quick to dismiss that, saying,

(43:37):
I don't know where that came from, but yeah, I'm
a starter. So yeah, if the asker has had any
plans of him coming back and working out of the bullpen,
they may want to have a discussion with him. And
I don't know what the avenues of communication are between
Dana Brown and Leans mccullors junior, but he may want
to go have a conversation with him about how they're
going to use him when he does get back, because

(43:57):
Lance is dead said on being a starter again.

Speaker 2 (44:00):
My partner, Ross Villera, you know him, he is way
more concerned about the starting rotation than perhaps I am.

Speaker 3 (44:05):
At this point.

Speaker 2 (44:06):
You're down there right now where pitchers are getting all
the attention before the full squad works out. We talked
a little bit about the rotation yesterday. Is it Do
you think it's set or is there a battle for
a couple of guys that maybe are I'm not on
the radar at this exact moment.

Speaker 6 (44:21):
Yeah, I think one through five is pretty much set
right now, and I think it's a good one through five.
But let's be real, guys. Health is always a factor,
you know, but nobody ever stays healthy. You're always gonna lose,
you know, a piece or two of your starting rotation
for a part of the season, and you got to
be prepared for that.

Speaker 5 (44:38):
Now.

Speaker 6 (44:38):
The good news is you hope to get mccullor's back,
and kind of the timetable he was laying out was
probably somewhere in May is where he could return if
everything continues on this track, and that's a big if
because he said somebody setbacks along the way. Luis Garcia
again some point along the way would be back, Christian
Javier at some point, and then you know JP France

(45:00):
later down the road. Uh So again you could get
some reinforcements that at some point in the season. But yeah,
I mean opening day to go fromber Hunter Brown, run
out Blanco s Fitzer, Araghetty and Hayden Lonski. It's a
pretty solid one through five, especially if arra Getty and
Hunter Brown build off of the turnarounds they had down
the stretch of last season. But again, that's all things

(45:24):
being healthy. If one or two of those guys goes
down with injuries, yeah, you're a little bit behind the
eight ball. And who's the next best person to step up?
That's that's gonna be the big question. And and then
you know the thought on who's going to be your
long relievers. I think Forced Whitley and Sean Dubin are
both kind of in the mix for that role. But
you know, there's a there's a lot of spots still

(45:44):
up for grabs here. But I'm with you, like one
through five on paper, I think it's a pretty strong rotation,
but as you and I know, all these guys aren't
gona stay healthy all year.

Speaker 2 (45:53):
Yeah, that was what I was going to be wondering, Gordian,
you kind of just talked about it there. Let's say
literally somebody goes down with some shoulder stiffness or something camp.
I mean, who would be the next man up? I get,
I guess would it be Sean Duban? Would it be
I don't even.

Speaker 3 (46:07):
Know because Garcia and mccullor's unhealthy either.

Speaker 6 (46:10):
Yeah, you got a couple of guys knocking on the door.
I got to see him third today, Ryan Gusto AJ
blue Ball. Those are the candidates down and the miners
that I think are you know, next man up if
they need to call somebody up. So I think, you know, look,
we I get it. Spring trading game can be very
boring and some people may check out at times, but

(46:30):
I think we want to be watching what Gusto and
blue Ball and those guys do in the spring because
that'll tell us, uh, you know, where these guys project
for you know, at least the start of the season,
and one of those guys may end up making the
big league club out of uh, out of spring. We'll see.

Speaker 11 (46:46):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (46:46):
You also had Joe spotted talking about Cam Smith playing
him some at third base. We've seen the pic. We've
seen the pictures, Gord. He looks like the dudeho's pretty ripped.
What's the camp buzz with Cam Smith?

Speaker 6 (46:58):
Yeah? I got a little mad crush on camp Smith.

Speaker 3 (47:01):
Wait a minute, where do you go to college?

Speaker 5 (47:04):
Uh?

Speaker 6 (47:04):
He went to Florida State.

Speaker 3 (47:05):
So well you're not locking acc stop it. That's ridiculous.

Speaker 6 (47:10):
I mean, being a go on l s U would
be we'd be you know, we'd be full all in
on him. But no, I mean this kid, like just
talking to him. He's he's the real deal. I mean,
he's he is everything you wanted, a budding, potential superstarter.
He's got to back it up. But I mean, he's
got all the tools, he's got the look, he's got
the athleticism, everybody raves about his hitting. A humble kid

(47:33):
gets it. I mean, just you know, really really good interview.
I just again, you can easily see why this kid
is the number one prospect of the farm system. And
he's also confident. You know, he's willing to embrace that
and wants to wants to play his role. So yeah,
if you're an Astros fan, it's been a while since
you've had a top one hundred prospect like this, and
you certainly could be one to watch a thing. And

(47:55):
what's really interesting, guys, is like the versatility. They're gonna
try him a little bit in the field. He could
play the enfield you've got, you know, same thing with
Bryce Matthews and Zach Dezenzo and Shaye Whittam, like all
these dudes who could play multiple positions. It's going to
be really fascinating to see how Joe structures this roster
because it's, you know, the thing you fear though, is

(48:17):
that all these guys are you know, pretty good at
at every spot, but not elite at any That's kind
of the danger. But they're they're going to try everything
they can to let one of these young guys maybe
earn a rotational outfield spot. And like I said, Cam
Smith is knocking on the door, Bryce Matthews is knocking
on the door, and they're sure he's going to be
excited about those guys in the future with the Astros.

Speaker 2 (48:39):
Gordiy's with us thanks to Carboc Brewing down in West
Palm Beach. All right, So the one last thing about
Cam I guess the schedules for him to open up
the year at Double A. And if you don't know
the answer to this, don't worry about it. But what
does he have to do? Is it just a question
of seasoning? Is there something a part of his game
they want him to work on. Are they just going
to just slow play him up here?

Speaker 3 (49:00):
What? What do you think would not necessarily hold him back?

Speaker 2 (49:03):
But what does he have to do in order to
get to the Triple A and perhaps the major leagues
before the end of the season if needed?

Speaker 6 (49:08):
Well I know this, if he hits they're gonna they're
gonna fast track him. I mean if if he if
the bat is is coming around and he's got pop
and he's crushing homers and the average is high, Uh,
they will they will definitely not hesitate to call him
up quickly. Yeah, there's all those other pieces of it.
I mean, they want to find a rule for him
and find one or two positions that he's really comfortable

(49:29):
at and can excel at. But the bat's the big thing.
I mean, that's that's what they're most excited about with him.
And and you know, I think it's probably the asters
best hitting prospect in the system. So if he hits
I would not be shocked if we see Camp Smith's
in an Ascer's uniform this year. I think Bryce Matthews
is really close. I think a lot of these guys
we're gonna see, uh where an Aster's uniform this season.

Speaker 2 (49:51):
And I'm assuming base of what you're just saying, and
what probably Joe Spotta will tell us next week is
these guys, the guys you're talking about, are probably going
to get a pretty good sample size at in Florida
correct in terms of playing in the major league games
at least in Springs Rainning games.

Speaker 6 (50:03):
Oh yeah, yeah. I think I think week one, we're
going to see all these guys and again, like changing
positions every day. Like I think Game one, you'll you'll
see Cam Smith on the infield. I could see, you know,
Game two, he's playing some left field. Same with his Zenzo, Like,
I think Joe wants to kind of figure out because
let's be real. I mean, you guys talked about it,
Jake Myers, the Chas McCormick and what else.

Speaker 7 (50:25):
You know.

Speaker 6 (50:25):
I mean that that's your outfield right now. So they
really need one of these guys to step up and
really exert themselves and say, look, i may not play
every day, but I'm gonna be a rotational guy two
three days a week. I'm gonna be starting to the left
field for you. I mean that that would go a
long way to kind of help some of these issues.

Speaker 2 (50:41):
In the absence of Kyle Tucker, get your crystal ball out.
What is Zach Decenzo's role going to be in twenty
twenty five for the Astros?

Speaker 3 (50:48):
Any idea?

Speaker 6 (50:48):
At this point, I think he can win that utility role.
I mean, I like him. I like him a lot.
You know, he has small sample size here last year,
but the confidence of the plant is going to be
his biggest thing. But I think he can play multiple
spots for you. I think he can almost be, you know,
to go back to years past the Marwin Gonzales kind

(51:09):
of role where one day he's playing at second base
to give out two a day off, one day he's
playing here. I mean I could see him kind of
be that utility guy. We'll see how they use the
bond this year. You know, everything is kind of pointed
towards kind of debond, you know, still moving around a
little bit and playing some outfield, DH in plaints midfield.
So we'll see. But I like, if I had to

(51:31):
put money on it right now, guys, I would bet
on Desento making this this team as a bench utility guy.

Speaker 3 (51:37):
Let me ask you this to sting with the bench.

Speaker 2 (51:38):
And I know the position players won't be there on
next week when we get down there, but I mean
John Singleton is your backup first baseman, he's your left
handed bat.

Speaker 3 (51:46):
Is that enough to hold a roster spot?

Speaker 5 (51:50):
Me?

Speaker 6 (51:50):
Personally, I say no. I mean, I'm just no offense
to the guy. Great guy helped you out of the
bund last year where you really didn't have first basement
by you. But I would not put him on this
team again. No no offense to him. I just I
would turn the page and say one of these other guys,
because you have other options. I mean, Janardez can play

(52:11):
some first base for you. You know, Victor Kartini can
play some first base. I mean you have you have
other guys who can back up Christian Walker, But in
perfect world, Walker's going to be playing there ninety percent
of the year. I want him at first base. So
to me, that's not enough to keep a John Singleton
on this roster.

Speaker 3 (52:26):
All right, you're gonna be down there a couple more days.

Speaker 2 (52:28):
We're going to take over from there, starting on a Tuesday,
and we thank Carbock Brewing for helping you get down
there right now.

Speaker 6 (52:34):
Yeah, and by the way, I'm going to miss out
the big Dana Brown dinner. You guys are gonna get
to take part it next Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (52:40):
So that's one meal taking care of about like that.

Speaker 6 (52:43):
You get the rebelbows with the with the GM. But yeah,
thanks to Carbok Brewing and the Crawford back I you know,
just talking astros and being around these guys that can
already envision being at dyke In Park and craft cracking
open a nice cold Crawford back and get ready for
some Astros baseball. It's always in season with the cross
box from Cardock Brewery.

Speaker 2 (53:01):
All right, save travels back and we'll I will see
at the airport. I guess we're gonna just we're gonna,
we're gonna what do they what they call it?

Speaker 5 (53:07):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (53:08):
When you're one direction coming back together, ship's passing passing
in the night.

Speaker 6 (53:12):
And I will make sure to tell T. S A
to double check that man's bags right there.

Speaker 3 (53:17):
They will, Oh, they will.

Speaker 2 (53:18):
They know Ross is gonna be care You've got some
illegal materials coming on that.

Speaker 3 (53:23):
Thank you, Gordy.

Speaker 6 (53:24):
I've been mad not Ross. Well. We'll have updates every
hour Saturday and Sunday on sports Talks of and I
will be doing hourly updates from from spring training.

Speaker 2 (53:32):
You're not gonna do him every hour? Qu kidding, that's ridiculous.

Speaker 6 (53:36):
Every hour. We will have updates from West Paul.

Speaker 2 (53:39):
Are you gonna claim overtime then, because you know what
the company will pay for it?

Speaker 3 (53:41):
Sorry?

Speaker 6 (53:43):
Yeah, they can't pay me as it is there.

Speaker 2 (53:45):
It is Chris Gordy doing hourly updates three o'clock in
the morning. You want a spring training update, Let's do.

Speaker 7 (53:50):
It right here.

Speaker 2 (53:51):
Sports Talk. He's like on live, is he no mentioned
Gordy at four o'clock? He thinks he's no, he can't.
He can't do a four oclock in the morning call.

Speaker 3 (54:01):
I just saw a couple of ASTRO staffers leaving the
Strip Club.

Speaker 2 (54:05):
They're uh, they're mole of the lawn on left field.
There's your astros update. All right, thank you, Chris? And uh,
maybe do we have certain we have to do the
every hour updates when we get down there.

Speaker 3 (54:15):
We don't do that. Do we have some part of
our deal?

Speaker 13 (54:16):
Is it?

Speaker 3 (54:17):
We'll see. We'll entertain the people for four hours.

Speaker 2 (54:19):
That's all. That's enough as it is. And we're going
to have you provide updates for the eighteen MM busy.
Let's put you to work. Come on, I gotta do
something for the station for once. Everything's all about Matt Thomas.
I am doing stuff for the station. What going down
to West Palm Beach? Can you as going on vacation
to Florida? No, no, no, that's that's other people in
the station that turn into vacations.

Speaker 3 (54:39):
We work do we go? How much fun do we have?
We go on the road a lot?

Speaker 2 (54:43):
Eleven fourteen on Sports Talk seven ninety This is Matt
Thomas Show with Raws seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven ninety coming up the news at noon, We've got
the strippers. We'll walk up as well. And at one
o'clock Greg Rajin is going to join us. He is
uh the one of the senior editors for the Chronicle,
and he's also a guy that wrote a story about

(55:04):
the thirty year anniversary of Clyde Drexer being traded from
Portland to Houston. We'll talk to him about that in
about an hour forty five. We have the Fantasy five today,
which is best SNL recurring characters, and what.

Speaker 3 (55:19):
Is today's edition. It's gotta be Valentin's Day for something,
believe hell yeah or not. You've done that a million times,
so I don't know. You know what CO get the
best of?

Speaker 2 (55:25):
It's okay, Well, I say you said you're gonna do
a live or dead on a Valentine's Day, No chance, whatever.
I can't do a livery That's the worst day we
should do. Conomer government dating Valentine's Day?

Speaker 3 (55:39):
Hell yeah or not?

Speaker 2 (55:40):
Should he do this on Valentine's Day? Hell yeah or not?
Seven one three, two, one two five seven ninety. I

Speaker 1 (56:43):
This is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross on Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (56:53):
So on that TNT show.

Speaker 2 (56:55):
Inside the NBA, Shack and Kenny like the run of
the board to diagram so that they've got no idea
what the hell they're talking about.

Speaker 3 (57:01):
Correct, Explain that to me now.

Speaker 2 (57:03):
Sometimes it used to be just Kenny going up there,
but then they go at random times and they're racing
and Shacks sometimes rices and Kenny's gonna win every single
time because Kenny's just leaner than Shack.

Speaker 3 (57:15):
I saw Kenny get beat by uh, Charte, Chuck.

Speaker 2 (57:19):
That really m okay, I don't want show enough to
tell you this, but this has happened. Apparently last night
as they were discussing something, they raced the board and uh,
they say.

Speaker 3 (57:29):
Comedy ensues on this.

Speaker 5 (57:33):
In the words of Marshall, Lie, I'm tired of America's.

Speaker 3 (57:45):
Just a couple of s bombs F bombs. Wow.

Speaker 2 (57:52):
So Shack's upset, he's tired, he's tired of losing to Kenny.
Guys running the scoreboard. I mean, let me tell you,
when I do my life radio show whatever that may be,
or my last game broadcast, so may you might not
know when your last radio show is. That's true, but
that's the nature of the business. I'm sorry, why did
depress the segment here. I don't think I'm gonna go

(58:14):
on a profanity laced conversation to end it. Not that
that was a lot of it, but there were two
in very short period of time. Shacksvilleing is, well, we're
not gonna be on this TV network much longer.

Speaker 3 (58:27):
Why not? But Shack's not gonna give up on television
making too much money.

Speaker 2 (58:31):
Well, maybe he doesn't want the headaches and the work.
She sits there, he gets things wrong and just goes
in her mumbles.

Speaker 7 (58:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (58:40):
I think John Morant is gonna have a tough time
with Jayalen Green. He's not playing Oh.

Speaker 2 (58:46):
That was actually that was actually too too much clarity
for shot. They don't they don't ask him now. The
only thing I'll probably get him tired would be the travel.
I mean, he has to go from wherever he lives
to Atlanta every week. Now, that may or may not
be the case next year with a new TV Florida.
He's a officer of Florida He's got houses all over
the place. He's on like eighty seven thousand commercials. He

(59:09):
doesn't have a house here in Houston too. He's on
Draft Kings with Shaq, I mean know with uh what's
Kevin Hart?

Speaker 3 (59:14):
Right? He does the Mineral insurance, Yeah, the mineral.

Speaker 2 (59:18):
He's also rapper Ns gold Bond. I think rapper Ron's
pizza Rapperns. He's on the Ice Micey Mott Miicy. Yeah,
he's he's quite marketable. He's America's pitch man. He's on
more more spots than anybody.

Speaker 3 (59:33):
But they know the one thing that those things can't
do is he can't give opinions.

Speaker 2 (59:37):
He's just yeah, but he collects a check. But I mean,
if you, if you if he gave up the T
N T STA, well, whatever it's gonna be called next
year or whatever network it's on. I think it's gonna
be like co J C.

Speaker 3 (59:47):
Penny. I didn't realize that Racy Rennie was still around.

Speaker 2 (59:52):
He owns a bunch of Papa John's apparently a bunch
of risky Risby reems mmm overrated properly where he just
told me you didn't like icing on donuts.

Speaker 3 (01:00:03):
I don't like that kind of icing.

Speaker 2 (01:00:05):
Well, I'll eat it. I like I am in the
minority in this. I like a plane cake over a
heavy ice.

Speaker 3 (01:00:13):
I'm done trying to figure you out good. I want to.

Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
I want I've never asked you to figure me how
to begin with. But you know he can't does Maco
mal but he can't you know what he can't do.
He can't give opinions on stuff. There's literally a Sports
Illustrated article top fifty.

Speaker 3 (01:00:25):
Shack endorsemous and they're not you know, they're all not cheap.

Speaker 2 (01:00:29):
Oh he's he's he's probably making I don't even know.
Let's just get a twenty million a year somehow. I
was gonna say significantly high.

Speaker 3 (01:00:35):
Yeah, maybe more than that.

Speaker 2 (01:00:36):
Yeah, but he when you go on TNT or whatever
it's going to be next year, you get to go
on there with your buddies, have some half assed opinions
about stuff with no foundation whatsoever, and get paid a lot.

Speaker 3 (01:00:48):
Yeah, he's probably making good money from that too.

Speaker 2 (01:00:51):
My guess is that TNT crew, which will be on
the ESPN next year, is all going to come back.
They're gonna tape out of Atlanta like they've been talking
about and they're gonna be on less often.

Speaker 3 (01:01:01):
Well, the show's not.

Speaker 2 (01:01:03):
It's a loss as fastball, you really think it has
absolutely not because of that them not knowing that John
Moran didn't play last time the Rocket, you know, I
mean that's been part of the bit.

Speaker 3 (01:01:11):
Okay, it's just I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
I don't watch it a lot, but when I happen
to be, like, could be in a room in a
hotel or something, getting on a trip or something, I
still chuckle at it. It's because Charles, I've never I've
never gone. Thanks Kenny for making me, making it me
learn something I've never gone. Man, Shack, I never thought.
I never thought of that approach. Charles makes me laugh.
And I don't like Kenny. I mean, Kenny hit the Houston tie.

(01:01:36):
I mean maybe I'm just upset because they just knew
nothing about the Rockets and they still don't.

Speaker 3 (01:01:42):
They don't know. I'm sure, I know.

Speaker 2 (01:01:45):
Yeah, that's but if the best basketball show is just
the best part is when Shack and and Chucks say
they're going to fight each other, and then it's a
good basketball show. Depends on what you looks good entertainment,
but it's not good supports entertainment. So okay, so I
will say it's that's an energy ing show. But in
terms of learning things, I'm not going no. But you
know what do you learn things on the ESPN pregame

(01:02:05):
show in the postgame?

Speaker 3 (01:02:06):
I don't watch those. No, you know that's fine.

Speaker 2 (01:02:09):
All you've got is screaming age just yelling at the
top of his lungs and talk about how much he
loves the Nicks.

Speaker 7 (01:02:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:02:15):
By the way, do you notice there are people trying
to push him for a presidential Canada in twenty twenty eight.
I will not be I'll go ahead and let let
it be known. I will not be voting for Steven
as there is. I'm gonna make this very clear because
we talk politics what once every four years, here's the
obligatory twenty twenty five political Okay, I will never, under
any circumstance, ever, ever, ever vote for Stephen A.

Speaker 3 (01:02:37):
Smith.

Speaker 2 (01:02:37):
If he's a Republican, a Libertarian, a Democrat, whatever, it
ain't happening, not on my watch, never gonna happen.

Speaker 3 (01:02:45):
There's my endorsement. Thank you, Matt, Thank You're welcome. Political
system is just just crazy.

Speaker 2 (01:02:54):
So we're doing is we're looking for celebrities we're looking for.

Speaker 3 (01:02:57):
Let's get off this. I don't want talk about the politics.
I hate politics wall.

Speaker 2 (01:03:01):
But back to the uh who is the Is there
somebody in basketball? I'll throw all three? Are there in
the three big sports that we watch? Who gives you
the most?

Speaker 7 (01:03:14):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:03:14):
I didn't figure that out. Like I'll tell you what
for college football? I mean he tried to uh to
wallet punch us a little bit or whatever you want
to call it. Joel Klatt. It's really good on the
Big Ten games or whenever he does the Fox stuff.
Pistol whippis not pistol wallet wallet whippis And we said enough,

(01:03:39):
I can't pay you that. It's just crazy and you're
hard to get ahold of. So that was gonna help you.

Speaker 3 (01:03:43):
Talking about Joe Clatt coming on the show, Yeah, okay,
I love Joe. I think Joel is an excellent, excellent broadcaster.
I learned things during a game broadcast with him.

Speaker 2 (01:03:54):
So that's college football, pro football? Who do you learn from?
Do you learn anything from anybody?

Speaker 14 (01:03:59):
I like?

Speaker 2 (01:03:59):
I still like Tony Rummel. I know people get excited
about all that. I think Tony explains things really. Tom
Brady's rounding in a form. But are you learning it
from Tom?

Speaker 3 (01:04:08):
I think you are? You learning more anecdotal things when
he was playing the game. I think so. I think he.
I think he's doing a good job, but it can
being uh teachable moments.

Speaker 2 (01:04:17):
Okay, basketball, does Jay Billis help you explain college basketball?

Speaker 1 (01:04:21):
I do?

Speaker 3 (01:04:22):
I do too. I like Jay Billis baseball. Who's the
best baseball?

Speaker 2 (01:04:27):
I don't know if John Smoltzen necessarily is the guy
that's explained situations for me.

Speaker 3 (01:04:31):
I always learn from Sparky. Sparky's really good.

Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
He's always talking about baseball on the inside, baseball as
like how the guy's positioned, preaching stuff especially Yeah, I
think you're agreed.

Speaker 3 (01:04:43):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (01:04:44):
And you can hear Sparky on seven ninety starting next Saturday,
not tomorrow, but the following Saturday.

Speaker 3 (01:04:49):
Can't wait.

Speaker 2 (01:04:51):
And we have to work during spring training too, Yeah, yesteryear,
sorry yesterday. We used to get those time off. Now
it's going to be the A team being the primaryship.

Speaker 3 (01:05:00):
Yes, it's time.

Speaker 2 (01:05:01):
You're still men mailing it in? Not really, I don't
have a mail showing you're not even coming up here.
I'll come up some maillion in. You know what you
should come up one of those days and we'll go
to we'll go.

Speaker 3 (01:05:11):
To the lunch. We're gonna go barbeau. I'm gonna come
up several times.

Speaker 2 (01:05:15):
Yes, because I owe you a fast casual lunch, ding,
and I owe you a barbecue for everyone ding and
Korean barbecue. Korean barbecue. Yeah, give me three meals. One
seventy five. Didn't get that. Berman didn't get that.

Speaker 3 (01:05:29):
We didn't bet on that, we didn't make a better lunch.
We didn't lunch.

Speaker 7 (01:05:31):
Bet that dang.

Speaker 3 (01:05:34):
Okay, I told you I didn't want to lunch.

Speaker 2 (01:05:36):
Bet that you were probably right eleven twenty eight on
Sports Talk seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven aunty is and anything goes and we actually
tell you what we did. Bet, I remember what we
bet on that one dollar? So just uh add a
slice of pot of our lunch.

Speaker 3 (01:05:52):
Okay, an extra dollar tip to the I like it, Wait, staff,
I like it. I like it.

Speaker 2 (01:05:57):
Seven one three two one two un you are right
seven one three two one two five seven ninety By
the way, a team that was in on the Bragman Sweepstakes,
if you want to call it that, like, we don't.

Speaker 3 (01:06:09):
Even know Alex Bragman. I'll explain that next here on seven.

Speaker 2 (01:06:11):
Ninety time is eleven thirty three. All right, I'm gonna
ask you to listen to me read some quotes, and
you're going to decide ROSSI whether this is sour grapes

(01:06:33):
or this is honest, true and legit commentary from a
general manager. Okay, So the Troit Tigers are meeting in Lakeland, Florida.
That's where their spring training is, and their president of
baseball operations name is Scott Harris, and he was asked
about Alex Bregman with the sign with the Boston Red Songs,
and he says the following, we want players who want

(01:06:56):
to be here. I say it a lot, because I
mean it. We want players who want to be Tigers.
We made a very compelling offer to Alex Pregnant, but
he chose to sign somewhere else.

Speaker 3 (01:07:05):
That's fine.

Speaker 2 (01:07:06):
We knew that was possibly a possibility throughout this process,
and we plan for that outcome.

Speaker 3 (01:07:11):
Must skip a little bit.

Speaker 2 (01:07:14):
We were going to be able to run out a
really good team with or without Alex Bregman. Skip skip
skip skip Okay, We're going to be just fine without
Alex Pregman, and we still have a clubhouse that just
got to the postseason and just beat a team with
Alex Bregman, so it clearly.

Speaker 3 (01:07:30):
Can be done.

Speaker 2 (01:07:31):
Oh, we just got to focus on the guys we
have in camp right now and we got to get
after it in spring because we've got to be a
lot better to be able to compete in this division.
Is he like sour grapes or if you ain't with
this year against us?

Speaker 6 (01:07:49):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:07:50):
Both, No, I can.

Speaker 2 (01:07:52):
If you're not with me, you're I don't know, have
sour grapes and you're just I'm just against you. I
think he's got sour grapes and Bregman's against him. So
it sounds like I think I think, Yeah, Bregman spurned
the Tigers six one seventy one higher than what the
Astros willing off. Yes, So apparently, from what I was
reading on Twitter Street yesterday, Alex did not want to

(01:08:14):
pay cut. He wanted to make at least thirty million
dollars annual. He wanted a race from his thirty million
dollars annual value, and he certainly got that.

Speaker 3 (01:08:23):
With the Red Sox. He did on a short term deal.

Speaker 2 (01:08:26):
Yeah, but in his mind, and now we've been able
to deduce this AAV was way more important than the
total sum. He probably wanted both and got one out
of the two. He wanted both, and then yeah, he
can bet on himself. He's gonna say that I'm going
to have a great year and maybe he can opt out.
Even if he doesn't opt out, he has to make
up what is it, fifty one million dollars over three

(01:08:48):
years from the from the Tigers deal. He could probably
do that, probably as long as he's playing well. But yeah,
I mean the Tigers the Astros yesterday were very cooy,
would you say with what their remarks about Bregman like
wishing the very best. Can't say much, but the reports
are true good luck, which obviously they were. I mean
Alex Bregman called the Astros and said, I'm not signing

(01:09:09):
here or somebody different his representation. I had to he
wouldn't have been that rude about it.

Speaker 3 (01:09:14):
Well, I don't know. Dana Brown had been picking up
scot Boards calls for a while. Yeah, maybe do you
think that? Do you think that? Dana sent a text
to Bregman and Bregman said, newphone, who is.

Speaker 5 (01:09:29):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:09:31):
Do you think Bregman was the sent of text to
Dana Brown. Brown said new phone, I think he'd be
professional about it. I think so too, but clearly our
friend in Detroit here is Yeah, I think it was
he spurned. He's he's not happy. Yeah, I would say
so because it was the best. It was the longest
deal that he was being offered by anybody. I think

(01:09:51):
six years was the was the top shelf number, and
the dollar amount was the top shelf number. One seventy
one was more than anybody else will wanted to pay.
So I would say, we gave you the best deal
in terms of length and money, and you still turned
us down.

Speaker 7 (01:10:09):
If you.

Speaker 3 (01:10:11):
The the best part of the quote was we beat
a team with Alex bregmant on it, and we can
do it again.

Speaker 2 (01:10:17):
It's true they did. They did in a three game series.
I only went two. Well, it was still a three
game series, best of three. Can you even let the
Tigers beat the Astros last year? Yes, it was tarks
googled that damn good. Yes, I forgot he was. And
then Farmer had a bad start right in game two.

Speaker 3 (01:10:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:10:40):
By the way, some friends of ours in the media
business happened to be listening to us yesterday saying goodbye
to farmber Valdez okay, and I was like, oh, this
is this going to be uncomfortable, and they're like, no, man,
you guys are spot on. Yeah, you're gonna have to
tell me who these friends of ours. I'll tell you, Okay.

(01:11:01):
I mean I can't say that because I don't I
don't want to give out their names. Yeah, you don't
want to, but protect the innocent, Protect the innocent.

Speaker 3 (01:11:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:11:08):
But yeah, so we could probably update that a little bit,
but it really we got it already knocked it.

Speaker 3 (01:11:14):
We gotta good. We could actually probably do. We could
probably ready for October. You know, we could do.

Speaker 2 (01:11:18):
We got people calling right now with what was their
favorite frober Valdez.

Speaker 3 (01:11:23):
I don't have to get that locked and loaded.

Speaker 2 (01:11:26):
I can put my tweet out.

Speaker 3 (01:11:28):
What was your favorite fromber Valdez as an astro moment?

Speaker 2 (01:11:31):
If I do that right now, people will be like,
what is going on right now? What was your favorite
fromber Valdez is an astro moment? No hitter, no hitter
against the Guardians. By the way, one of the things
about Frober yesterday it was so crazy. He's coolest in
some respects. What do you mean he's like's two, he's
not playing left field, y'all. Y'all y'all being uh hoodwinked

(01:11:54):
on that.

Speaker 3 (01:11:56):
Hos on two. Body's gonna play some left field this year.

Speaker 2 (01:11:58):
Yeah, it seems like it Fromer completely dismissed it yesterday. Well,
he's not paying attention, That's what I'm saying. How do
you not pay attention? This is not like eleven year
olds in a little league. This is this is your profession,
this is your team you would have I'm assuming you
have some show you ever said at second base? He's
the job is just to get him ground balls. He's
not worried about any of that other stuff. He better

(01:12:19):
there are right guys. There's seven guys behind him.

Speaker 3 (01:12:21):
I can help.

Speaker 2 (01:12:22):
He's working, he's focusing on he's locking in on throwing
against hitters, Matt. He's not reading all the tea leaves
and looking at the winter meetings and what Dan is
saying at the winter meeting. You may have tell me
that fron Berval does is not talk to anybody this
entire offseason about what the Astros may be doing in
left field and moving Josale t Bay and he's like, no, man,
y'all stop joking with me.

Speaker 3 (01:12:41):
Maybe he's a vacation.

Speaker 2 (01:12:43):
Well, I'm sure he took a vacation of some some Yeah,
does he need Jose to call him and say, man,
probably it's it's serious. Everybody was laughing about it at FanFest,
but then it just looks like it's become more real.
Or maybe it maybe it is isn't gonna be that real.
Maybe he's gonna play out there like ten games. Maybe
he's out there in spring training for a week and
he's like, uh, all right, what's the number?

Speaker 3 (01:13:05):
How many games? Is L two? Ve gonna be out
of left? When I making a bet because we're running
out of bets. No, I wouldn't bet on this. I
don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:13:11):
I have no idea. This will just be a completely
uneducated guess.

Speaker 3 (01:13:15):
Okay, just set a total thy time.

Speaker 2 (01:13:19):
I'm gonna total forty to say forty one times, I'll
go under it. And the reason why I like forty
one is for one reason, your non's gonna probably play
in the forty range. Mm hmm, You're gonna one hundred
twenty two. So that's all I need to do is
get one third of that what's left to that. I
like my number.

Speaker 3 (01:13:40):
Who's at second base those days?

Speaker 2 (01:13:43):
Parades could be a variety of folks, could be Dubond
playing some second base. Remember Dubon played a lot of
second base when holds on the left. But he's better
at Yeah, you swap him. He's better at second. Dubon's
better at second than al two v is at this
stage of their career. I love my number at forty one.
It's not bad. Yeah, because again, if you think about

(01:14:05):
it for a second, which you don't sometimes you don't
think about, is that he is minus at defensively at
second base. Yes, so significantly if you move rude it's truthful,
but it's your route still, Yeah, you don't if you
put somebody out there in left field that it's not
very good. If you can't improve your second base spot,
then you're hurting yourself potentially in two positions where if
you put Altuve and left the easiest outfield position, maybe

(01:14:28):
you gain a little bit of traction and a better
defensive spot with whoever's replacing him at second base.

Speaker 3 (01:14:34):
I think we're going to see I think we're going
to see some Dezenzo and left Dubon Altuve, yourd On
or who else?

Speaker 2 (01:14:44):
Or maybe they make a trade before the deadline and
go get a big slugger out.

Speaker 3 (01:14:47):
There, Ben Gamble and right with Chassi Fizz left. How's
Benny G looking you? All right?

Speaker 2 (01:14:57):
I don't think anybody in the city Houston is going
for fall. Who is Benning G. They're like they have
no idea who that is?

Speaker 3 (01:15:03):
Second that. I don't think anybody's pencil.

Speaker 5 (01:15:05):
Man.

Speaker 3 (01:15:05):
If Benning G can get up to.

Speaker 2 (01:15:06):
Three nineteen with fifteen twenty home runs still twenty five bases,
oh we're gonna be so good. Maybe he's gonna have
a career renaissance at the age of thirty two.

Speaker 5 (01:15:16):
You know what.

Speaker 2 (01:15:16):
That's gotta happen, something I happen. I know you're working
on this Jake Myers fan club, but.

Speaker 3 (01:15:22):
I'm not starting the Ben Gamble fan club. He would
be actually hysterical if he started the Big Gamble fan Club.

Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
We can if somebody wants to start it, we can
be we can be friends. How about the sister club?
How about the dweed that calls us? Does that about
does that greenky?

Speaker 3 (01:15:36):
Oh my god? Maybe he can maybe he can be
big mac me.

Speaker 2 (01:15:39):
Ben Gamble, Literally no Team Greenky did not pitch in
twenty twenty four. He did not pitch. It's not it's
a it's a bit for him again he sniffing some
of that Lake Jackson clue.

Speaker 3 (01:15:49):
Did like the glues different in Lake Jackson.

Speaker 2 (01:15:52):
I mean it's stronger. Maybe I don't know, Okay seven

Speaker 15 (01:18:02):
Bye.

Speaker 3 (01:18:03):
Look, God, thirty years ago today, I said that my voice,
how do you feel? Back then?

Speaker 2 (01:18:18):
Of course, the body was not in great shape at
that point, and that is what it is. We all
used to be younger, Matt ough a lot poortlier, God mighty.

Speaker 3 (01:18:27):
Yeah, we're proud of you.

Speaker 2 (01:18:29):
Yeah, my twenties were the decade of missed opportunities.

Speaker 3 (01:18:33):
You know what I'm saying. I think you're doing great, Matt?
What do you mean?

Speaker 2 (01:18:36):
I am very happy now, happily married, wonderful career, three
great children, decent friends, would I guess?

Speaker 3 (01:18:45):
Yeah? It's not bad, not bad. Proud of you, all right?

Speaker 2 (01:18:49):
Uh So Greg Ragin from the Chronicles going to join
us at one o'clock today in about an hour from now,
to go over his research behind that. You know it
was and we'll talk more about this with Greg, but
it was such a mind blowing trade because you just
won the championship. It'd be like, I don't know, Ross

(01:19:09):
winning a World Series and firing a general manager right after.

Speaker 3 (01:19:12):
Yeah, but the team was faltering, correct, Yeah, but we
were fin The Rockets finished sixth in the West.

Speaker 5 (01:19:16):
That year.

Speaker 2 (01:19:16):
Wasn't like it was. It wasn't like he came out
all of a sudden they started playing a hunter basketball. No,
I'm saying at the time the trade relayed, right, Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:19:22):
Yeah? Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:19:25):
Was it the first ever six seed to win the championship? Yeah,
and still the only six and below Jimmy Butler's heat
made it as an eight. An eight's made it before,
but he ever won.

Speaker 3 (01:19:36):
I don't think. No, the Knicks in ninety nine made
it as an eight.

Speaker 10 (01:19:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:19:41):
That was a lockout year. And I want to say
Jimmy Butler's was at the COVID year when they made
it as an eight. Ye, so a lockout year, a
COVID year. Yeah, So some strange situations put in the
presented himself and Otis Thorpe was and I've I've gotten
to talk to Otis several times, but we have when
he after post career. When he he was playing, he

(01:20:02):
was so intimidating because if you didn't ask the question,
Like when you go in and ask questions, you're looking
for a desired response. It's almost like an attorney asking
a witness on the witness to know the answer the
answer especially, I feel like especially newspaper people do that
because they're looking for a specific quote about a specific
they're trying to finish, trying to get a storyline for

(01:20:24):
the story right. He would give me the weirdest looks
and I cracked like an egg during it. Would you
do what do you mean? How do you how does
the one crack like an egg? You apologize to him, No,
but it was like, well, it made me much more sharper,
you asked better questions.

Speaker 3 (01:20:44):
Well, I was much more.

Speaker 2 (01:20:46):
I was really nervous asking him questions because I was
always afraid of the stair down hmmm. And it wasn't
a standound like I can't believe he asked it. It
was almost like the blank eating grin of why did
you ask that question?

Speaker 3 (01:20:59):
Again?

Speaker 2 (01:21:00):
Ninety percent of the questions that are asked by members
of the media to a athlete. I'm sure it's in
the political world as well. You're looking for a desired
response or you sometimes you just want to hear yourself
talk and then you can put it on your YouTube
channel later and say I asked this athlete this question.

Speaker 3 (01:21:16):
Gosh, so you can try to get some clicks.

Speaker 2 (01:21:17):
Yeah, and it doesn't work out because you've got a
failed media career that you just gotta created yourself that
you're really not to remember the media.

Speaker 3 (01:21:22):
But that's a different that's you're a different time. But yeah,
he was. He was a one of those guys that
I was scared of because I wasn't didn't want that.

Speaker 2 (01:21:31):
Why are you asking? Look, for instance, this this is elementary.
What happened in the fourth quarter. Let's say you got
let's say you were outscore twenty seven to nineteen in
the fourth quarter, right, Well they the easiest answer is, well,
we didn't make Yeah, we didn't We didn't make baskets.
But was it Was it because the rotations weren't good?

(01:21:52):
Was it because you were taking bad shots? It was
because you were forcing things up? Did you take too
much time off the clock? I mean, there's there's a
variety of angles to why didn't so would you? What
you have to do that as a as a person
to ask questions as an interview worry you have to
get question answers out that are not going to come
across as the what do you mean?

Speaker 3 (01:22:08):
Why didn't we?

Speaker 2 (01:22:09):
Why do we fail in the fourth quart we didn't
score as many points. Yeah, you know what, there was
a I'm trying to find it. I know exactly what
you're talking about. Tarry Easton basically did that the other night. Yes,
he was very short with a couple of if it's
this feel just out there overall good?

Speaker 3 (01:22:31):
Just the way that you guys played in.

Speaker 7 (01:22:33):
The fourth quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:22:34):
What do you think was different from that point from
you know, from the first three played harder?

Speaker 3 (01:22:40):
Oh, how did you feel out there?

Speaker 5 (01:22:44):
Good?

Speaker 2 (01:22:45):
That is exactly how I this is how? Yeah, what
do you need to do in the next game?

Speaker 3 (01:22:52):
Shoot better?

Speaker 6 (01:22:53):
Win?

Speaker 2 (01:22:54):
How disappointing was it that you gave up one hundred
nineteen points? Very Now, the player itself can make things
a little easier. The player itself can understands what we're doing,
because again, you're not going in there. I don't think
most members of the media, even the fake ones, are
going there trying to be antagonistic, try to create a debate.

(01:23:20):
You're trying to go in there and to get your
questions answered.

Speaker 3 (01:23:23):
No, yeah, I mean yes, I'm agreeing with you. Now.
Boston media can do it. New York media certainly has
done it. It can't happen. You have certain a loud
amount types that want to be confrontational because they want
to sensationalizing.

Speaker 2 (01:23:34):
Right real quick, before the top of the hour. Did
you see the people are sending me this photo of
a guy wearing a sweatshirt at the well here it
is CJ. Gardner Johnson. Do you know who that is
with the Philadelphi Eagles. He's got a hoodie on. This
is CEO folk show sentence to us. The hoodie says

(01:23:56):
on it swifties can l I X my You know
what's at the Eagles parade? Huh lax of course is
fifty nine. Yes, licks licks my blanks. Yes, this is
not magic name. By the way, this seels like it
might be. Taylor was thrown for a curve. Wasn't she

(01:24:24):
Why she got She got booed big time? And again
that wasn't boode because she's a bad singer. Wasn't boot
because people in New Orleans don't like her, because that
was wasn't New Orleans.

Speaker 3 (01:24:33):
It was booted because the Eagle fans hate her.

Speaker 2 (01:24:34):
There's a lot of Eagles fans and some people disagree
with her.

Speaker 3 (01:24:38):
Uh political positions.

Speaker 2 (01:24:41):
Not that I could possibly take a poll, But I
believe ninety percent of the people that booed were booing
because she was a Chiefs fan. That crowd at the
super Bowl was severely big time in favor of Philadelphia.
They celebrated. Yeah, and now Taylor is upset, Travis might retire.

(01:25:02):
It's the Chief's kingdom. Is it crumbling?

Speaker 7 (01:25:07):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:25:08):
Maybe? No, you're right, Xavier Worthy's emerging as a wide
receiver one. He's gonna help.

Speaker 2 (01:25:13):
They're gonna go get a running back late first round.
They're gonna get healthy on the offensive line.

Speaker 3 (01:25:17):
They need a running back.

Speaker 2 (01:25:19):
They're throwing the trotting out cream Hunt as they had
Pacheco just hadn't been.

Speaker 3 (01:25:23):
The same since.

Speaker 2 (01:25:24):
No, No, they need they need a RB one. They
get that late first round or early second round. All right,
are you ready to wake the strippers up?

Speaker 3 (01:25:31):
Very much?

Speaker 16 (01:25:32):
So?

Speaker 3 (01:25:32):
Now they don't get off today? Do they? That was weird.

Speaker 2 (01:25:35):
They don't get the day off. I should say because
of its being Valentine's Day.

Speaker 3 (01:25:42):
I don't know, Matt. If it's slower.

Speaker 2 (01:25:45):
We had no strippers calling and ask it and tell
us that they're you're completely off today.

Speaker 3 (01:25:50):
Have we had a stripper ever called the show? No?

Speaker 2 (01:25:53):
We're not in a demographic. I mean maybe maybe they
us didn't identify themselves. That's not bad. We used to
have a strip club bouncer that was good. Derek in
the gallery and may he rest, May he rest would
help trying to get me on the open mic one night. Yeah,
we should have got you. You know what on the
Rocket Seasons are worth in June? I could past he
announced the strip club.

Speaker 3 (01:26:12):
I think I would. I can, I could pull it off.
I don't think it's that difficult. Now at stage, desiree
out of the stage, Ambrosia, Ambrosia, put your hands together
for destiny. There you go. They're not playing this at
the strip clubs. Yeah what Connor?

Speaker 7 (01:26:32):
What are they?

Speaker 2 (01:26:32):
They don't plays the strip clubs of that Connor or
maybe you do know that they played this to the
strip clubs.

Speaker 3 (01:26:37):
I don't know. This is just I've never been, so
that's good for you.

Speaker 2 (01:26:40):
All Right, we're gonna wake the strippers up here after
I tell you about League one Volleyball, a brand new

(01:27:00):

It's one of the fastest growing sports out there and
becoming quite a sensation nationally. It's League one Volleyball LLVB,
LVB dot com.

Speaker 1 (01:27:50):
Launchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 17 (01:27:55):
Twelve three down morn exterrap.

Speaker 3 (01:28:20):
And welcome to tour and three of the van.

Speaker 2 (01:28:22):
Tommy's showing ross this this Sports Talk seven ninety. I
offer to put soup down my body and he wants it,
scolding hot.

Speaker 3 (01:28:31):
Can you listen to yourself? What is happening?

Speaker 4 (01:28:33):
It's not just him now. He's the one that I
keep my eye on lately. I mean, I just say it.
I want to have his babies. I do.

Speaker 3 (01:28:39):
You can get you doing some yoga, man, get your
flexibility up. I'm very flexible. I've heard you're very stiff
that too. I don't want to bust them out. I
don't be teased.

Speaker 2 (01:28:48):
And it's just this long white pipe and they just
spray and it's it's a little bit of pain the ass.

Speaker 3 (01:28:54):
I'm calling you with Dale from Magnolia. Man, we got
about six inches up here. Excuse me what. I don't
care what you're carrying?

Speaker 7 (01:29:02):
Dale?

Speaker 2 (01:29:03):
Come about snow? Oh okay, what are you talking about?
I don't know, but that was very odd. It was
a Friday. Officially, the week is coming to a close.
We thank all of you for not driving into work today.
The drive was nice and easy, just about fifty one
minutes on the old clock.

Speaker 3 (01:29:20):
Fifty one minutes.

Speaker 2 (01:29:22):
Give me a chance to listen to fifty one minutes
of the Shawn Salisbury Show six o'clock until ten.

Speaker 3 (01:29:27):
You know what, in a way, I kind of do
miss the lung commute.

Speaker 2 (01:29:30):
You can listen to a whole album, you can listen
to a podcast, get some time to yourself, maybe even
just sit in silence.

Speaker 3 (01:29:35):
And think, oh God, no, give me five minutes every day.

Speaker 2 (01:29:41):
I'm telling you it's not that bad. I wouldn't trade it.
I'm just saying you can make the best of it.

Speaker 7 (01:29:45):
Matt.

Speaker 2 (01:29:45):
Why don't we do this? Why don't we one month
a year, one week a month? You come to this
Kingwood Studios. Okay, we do the show from the house.
You're gonna stay at your house. We'll have the built
in audience. Sadie Kral watch the show at my house
and then you stay at my place. It's kind of
cramped my place. Yeah, what are you talking to? If you
have a full spare bedroom for me?

Speaker 3 (01:30:06):
Yeah? Do you really? I didn't realize that you what
the hell you're talking about? Okay? As usual? So I
get to spend time at your place one one week
a month. It's awful. Nice of your sports are may
I appreciate that very much? All right? Seven?

Speaker 2 (01:30:19):
One three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven. Untie, it's time for
us at twelve o seven to give you the big
headlines of the day. We present to you because Ross
has been working on this, I've been working on Fancy
five almost very busy, very busy, and believe it or now,
we're ading production vague of the show.

Speaker 3 (01:30:37):
It's fine, Sime for the news at noon?

Speaker 2 (01:30:39):
Sure, alright, man, Well, the big news at noon has
been what's been going down at spring training, as pitchers
and catchers have reported. Well, the big news of the
day has been Lance mccullors junior talking about coming back.
And while he says, I don't know what the heck

(01:30:59):
you guys are talking talking about.

Speaker 3 (01:31:00):
Where did this relief? Relief?

Speaker 13 (01:31:02):
I don't know where that came from. But I don't
think I don't think that's an easy job.

Speaker 7 (01:31:08):
And being a reliever.

Speaker 13 (01:31:09):
I think a lot of times, you know, people almost say, well,
just make them reliever. I mean that's not an easy.

Speaker 18 (01:31:14):
Thing to do.

Speaker 13 (01:31:15):
Uh, to be a reliever at the big league level,
it's not like a fallback position. I think that it's
doing a disservice to the guys who are in that
in that role.

Speaker 3 (01:31:23):
It's very specific.

Speaker 13 (01:31:24):
It's very hard, and I don't think pitching you know,
back to back days or even you know, you know,
three out of four days. For me, I think it's
physically harder. I think the things that the guys in
the bullpen have to deal with throughout a long season,
the ups and down in usages, not really knowing when
they're going to be called upon. Sometimes that's not that's
a harder in my opinion, it's a harder it's a

(01:31:45):
harder job. It's a harder way to stay healthy.

Speaker 3 (01:31:48):
So let's go as you said. I don't know what
you guys are talking about, this reliever stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:31:52):
It is hard to be a reliever. He wants to
be a starter, Matthew, and that has been built into
his DNA since the time he first started pitching. Yeah,
and that's not going to change even though he hasn't
pitched two and a half years. Mm hmm, that's all
I got. Okay, that's how I said that.

Speaker 6 (01:32:07):
I don't.

Speaker 3 (01:32:08):
I don't. I'm telling you.

Speaker 2 (01:32:09):
If I was him and I had not pitched in
a long time, I'd be like, whatever you need me
to do, I'm happy to do it Lands is like
I'm going if I've been putting in all this work
to try to get back on the mound to play,
I want to do it every fifth day. Well, I
want to be able to throw any pitches. He talked
about when he expects to throw. He's been throwing some bullpins.
Also wants to get in some games in Florida and
then head to Triple A.

Speaker 13 (01:32:29):
So I've thrown seven pins, which is a good amount,
just coming through like an offseason. I'll throw another pin
I think Sunday, and then probably a couple more and
then look into face hitters. I love to I love
to get in some games for the end of the
camp and you know, from there probably break a Triple A.
It's been a little while since i've you know, really
faced competition. Spring training is good, but it's not you know,

(01:32:51):
there's still little bit of a gap from spring to
the season. So I think it would I think we
all feel it'll be the best to try to get
a game or twitter my belt down here in Florida
and then probably go to Triple A before you know,
making a decision to join back.

Speaker 2 (01:33:03):
In today's edition of Pure Gas Moments, Yes June first,
before or after this as mccullors make his Astros.

Speaker 3 (01:33:10):
I think it's a good line I'm going to be.
I choose to be optimistic before June first.

Speaker 2 (01:33:18):
I choose to be realistic, and I'll probably say post
to life June first and go if he happens beforehand,
can't wait, Well, let me tell you when Lance is
eventually back of the mound pitching for the Astros, it's
a celebratory moment.

Speaker 3 (01:33:29):
Well, you don't know. I don't know. I'm going to
be optimistic. Let's not call you, mister optimistic. I know
I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:33:35):
Well, let's keep it going, man, But let's keep it
with the starting pitching from er Valdez. With some comments
yesterday talking about being approached for a contract, says that
hasn't happened.

Speaker 3 (01:33:46):
Said, I'm ready for both. Does it matter if I'm
a free agent or the Astros approching to me about
a contract extension.

Speaker 2 (01:33:52):
I'm ready for both. There's always an answer for both.
I'm ready to do whatever is best for me, and
I'm ready for both occasions.

Speaker 3 (01:34:00):
I know she should be ready for free agency in
all likelihood, Yes, what else is happening in the world
of sports? Rossian. How about your Houston Rockets?

Speaker 2 (01:34:14):
Oh no, what we haven't had taken a call in
the Rocket yet today?

Speaker 3 (01:34:18):
Oh should we have?

Speaker 5 (01:34:19):
Did they?

Speaker 3 (01:34:19):
Do they deserve a call?

Speaker 2 (01:34:21):
Well, I mean people could be like man disappointed, angry
here after this. Jack Lockett's seventeen should be Butler right
hand ribble drive out right side, Patjemski pump fakes on
a three kicks out straight away, Draymond wants a three
pointer of that acts up and then that'll seal it at
one five ninety six or forty seven seconds remaining. You know,

(01:34:41):
the Warriors were eleven forty one from deep last night.
That's twenty seven percent. What were the Rockets two thirty six,
thirty three?

Speaker 3 (01:34:50):
Still not good?

Speaker 2 (01:34:51):
Rockets turned it over twenty times yesterday to zero eleven.
I think in the first quarter and a half.

Speaker 3 (01:35:00):
That's not good, Bob. And that's not good, Matt. No,
that's not ideal.

Speaker 2 (01:35:04):
Well, they did have a comeback with a bunch of
backups on the floor, and unfortunately they still lost one
oh five to ninety eight. They limp into the All
Star break having lost seven of their last nine. And
I mean there is pressure coming from four five six

(01:35:26):
NOIX five, six seven.

Speaker 3 (01:35:28):
Right now, you're.

Speaker 2 (01:35:30):
Talking about the Western Conference standing Jess Matt. The Houston
Rockets right now, still in the four spot as the
Lakers lost as well, but only a half game ahead
of them, two and a half ahead of the.

Speaker 3 (01:35:43):
LA Clippers, who, by the way, came from behind to
beat the Utah Jazz last.

Speaker 2 (01:35:47):
Night, also only two and a half behind the Grizz. Okay,
let's get that two or three.

Speaker 3 (01:35:51):
Let's go. It can happen. It's gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (01:35:55):
I'm gonna give you the rest of schedule, the rest
of the way, not right this second.

Speaker 3 (01:35:58):
Okay, but we're going undefeated. Is that what you're saying.
I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:36:03):
I love your optimism. You know, I want to call
you misterroptimistic. All right, anything else, Uh, that's it, Okay,
time for break.

Speaker 3 (01:36:09):
Did a nice shot?

Speaker 7 (01:36:10):
Break on?

Speaker 3 (01:36:10):
You did a nice shove. You prepared that from about
ten thirty this morning.

Speaker 7 (01:36:13):
It's right now?

Speaker 6 (01:36:13):
Great?

Speaker 3 (01:36:14):
All right?

Speaker 2 (01:36:14):
Uh it is uh, anything goes Friday. Here in the program,
Allen in North Houston says he went out with a
stripper last night for dinner.

Speaker 3 (01:36:21):
Huh.

Speaker 2 (01:36:23):
I mean, I'm curious, right, what other radio show to
have people calling and just talking about random conversations they
have at dinner time.

Speaker 3 (01:36:31):
This one does.

Speaker 2 (01:36:32):

you want to jump in on the conversation. Seven one

Speaker 3 (01:38:11):
And this kind of fits the show right.

Speaker 2 (01:38:15):
All right, So our audience's diverse men, women, young, old
called and say, hey Matt, I was at a ball
game yesterday, and or heyman, I went on a trip
and he I went to Vegas or on the beach.

Speaker 3 (01:38:30):
Yes, people that want to call the show, I said
I had dinner with a stripper last night. Wow, Alan,
good afternoon.

Speaker 2 (01:38:39):
You're on the Matt Thomas Show with Ross and anything
goes Farannie Allen, what is on your mind today.

Speaker 19 (01:38:43):
Well, you guys were curious if they were dancing that
on down Time's day.

Speaker 2 (01:38:47):
Right, yeah, it was. By the way, who do you
know this person has a friend? Or is this somebody
you said, Hey girl, what's up, let's go out some dinner.

Speaker 19 (01:38:56):
No, as a friend, as a friend, okay, yeah, yeah,
so yeah, we went up to a nice steak restaurant
last night and I actually asked the question. I said,
are you working Friday? And she said possibly, But other
than that they are they do work on Fridays on balnasday.

Speaker 3 (01:39:13):
Okay, how long? How long has your friend been stripping?
At least?

Speaker 6 (01:39:17):
Uh four?

Speaker 7 (01:39:19):
About three or four years? About three four years?

Speaker 2 (01:39:22):
Now, are y'all like y'all were friends before the strip club?
Or did you meet her at the strip club?

Speaker 7 (01:39:26):
No?

Speaker 19 (01:39:27):
I met her at the strip club and we talked
and had a good bible with she's with each other
and we have changed phone numbers and you can texting
each other.

Speaker 7 (01:39:35):
Yeah. Nice, nice lady, Really nice lady.

Speaker 3 (01:39:38):
Is she older or younger than you are?

Speaker 19 (01:39:40):
Oh, she's definitely younger than me. In fact, she's like
a year older than my son and he's twenty five.

Speaker 3 (01:39:51):
Good has your son asked about this girl yet or.

Speaker 7 (01:39:54):
No, no, he had.

Speaker 19 (01:39:56):
Well, he talks about it and asking me if you
know I'm still texting her and stuff like that. He
starts laughing every time we talk about it. But other
than that, I sent pictures to room and stuff like that.

Speaker 7 (01:40:05):
She's gorgeous. I'm telling you that right now.

Speaker 2 (01:40:07):
All right, Well, good, does does your ex wife know
about this strip you're going out with or at least.

Speaker 3 (01:40:11):
Haven't dinner with.

Speaker 7 (01:40:12):
I don't even care.

Speaker 2 (01:40:13):
You hate you hate your ex wife, don't you.

Speaker 3 (01:40:17):
You hate the mother of your child?

Speaker 7 (01:40:20):
Well? No, no, no, that was my first wife.

Speaker 3 (01:40:22):
So yeah, how many times you been married? Twice? Okay twice.

Speaker 2 (01:40:27):
See, you're going to remain afraid of the rest of
your career that obviously, and this and this girl you
took out to dinner last night.

Speaker 3 (01:40:35):
She's not marrying material?

Speaker 7 (01:40:36):
Yes, uh not right now?

Speaker 5 (01:40:39):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:40:39):
Okay?

Speaker 6 (01:40:40):
Is she?

Speaker 3 (01:40:40):
Is she dating somebody or at this point? Uh no?

Speaker 5 (01:40:43):
No.

Speaker 19 (01:40:44):
I even asked that about what two three weeks ago
if she was dating She said no.

Speaker 7 (01:40:47):
But you know sometimes they say that to you, you know,
just to kind of.

Speaker 6 (01:40:51):
Stroke your eagle.

Speaker 7 (01:40:52):
But uh no.

Speaker 19 (01:40:54):
From from what we've been texting each other and talking Yeah,
we're really good friends.

Speaker 7 (01:40:58):
That's for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:41:03):
I'm done, Rossia, getything o.

Speaker 3 (01:41:08):
Hellen.

Speaker 7 (01:41:09):
I hope I answered your questions.

Speaker 3 (01:41:10):
You, by the way, did you buy that?

Speaker 14 (01:41:14):
Do you?

Speaker 3 (01:41:14):
Guys? Always? Do you have? How many times you're gone
to have dinner?

Speaker 7 (01:41:17):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (01:41:17):
Just twice and you bought both times?

Speaker 7 (01:41:20):
Uh we split the second time.

Speaker 2 (01:41:23):
Okay? Does she wear her stripper garb two said restaurant?
Or she have like a different clothes?

Speaker 7 (01:41:29):
You know?

Speaker 19 (01:41:30):
She she was pretty relaxed, you know, casual, comfortable, you know.

Speaker 7 (01:41:35):
Yeah, she was looking good though. She was looking good.

Speaker 3 (01:41:39):
Well, okay, that's nice. I'm glad. I'm glad to hear
that you approve of her physical appearance.

Speaker 19 (01:41:45):
Yeah, yeah, physical. She's smart. She's a smart young lady.

Speaker 2 (01:41:50):
Uh okay, Uh is she currently okay, going to school?

Speaker 3 (01:41:55):
Is she going to school right now?

Speaker 5 (01:41:57):
Uh?

Speaker 19 (01:41:57):
No, that's unfortunately we were talking and she's gonna ready
to move back to Arizona with her with her.

Speaker 7 (01:42:04):
With her sister.

Speaker 19 (01:42:05):
But yeah, when I take the back, she did say
she was going to school, she's taking classes, but we
never did get into that which classes she was taking.

Speaker 3 (01:42:12):
Sure, yeah that's gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (01:42:14):
You know how that shows yeah, So when is when
is her final appearance in the Greater Houston.

Speaker 7 (01:42:19):
Area, Possibly tonight, possibly to I.

Speaker 3 (01:42:22):
Mean, she has not made up in mind whether she's
leaving tonight or tomorrow.

Speaker 19 (01:42:24):
When well, well we talked about it, because the thing is,
if she's leaving tomorrow and she's dancing tonight, you know,
as far as driving and stuff. I told her, you know,
you may want to be a little cautious about that,
and you know, may not go to dance tonight. But
she said she she was gonna text me how she
was and the best case I was going to meet
her up there for one last you know, one last time.

(01:42:49):
Spends more money. Okay, what do you guys think?

Speaker 3 (01:42:58):
So I got a couple more hair? Okay, So she's
thinking about moving tomorrow.

Speaker 19 (01:43:04):
Well, she is gonna move tomorrow. She is actually gonna
leave tomorrow on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (01:43:08):
Okay, So she's out of she's out of her place
of residence where she is right now correct or.

Speaker 19 (01:43:12):
As of yeah, as of tomorrow, she you know, basically
to be moved out.

Speaker 2 (01:43:17):
And we're until she run in an apartment or a
townhouse or something like that.

Speaker 7 (01:43:21):
Uh right now? Currently was she is that?

Speaker 3 (01:43:24):
What you're yeh, like, where does she where does she
sleep last night?

Speaker 7 (01:43:27):
Downtown? She's got she's got an apartment complus downtown.

Speaker 2 (01:43:31):
Okay, so she told the Renders, I'm out, goodbye. It's
been great hanging out with you. I'm going to Arizona
pretty much.

Speaker 19 (01:43:38):
Yeah, like I said, we're gonna we're gonna keep in touch.
But yeah, I've had disappointed that we hooked up finally.
And next thing, you know, it was like, well, I'm traveling,
you know, Arizona. It's gonna go out you know, be outtown.
And I'm like, oh, we just hooked up with you know,
I understand, I understand.

Speaker 2 (01:43:53):
Okay, Well, I now I feel kind of bad for
you because I like, you guys have developed quite a
relationship and you're unable to tended.

Speaker 3 (01:44:00):
As the kids would say.

Speaker 7 (01:44:01):
Yeah, I know.

Speaker 19 (01:44:02):
That's why I kept telling her too, I said, I said,
you know, I'm kind of bummed out and stuff.

Speaker 7 (01:44:07):
She said, well, I know, I am too. I'm like, yeah,
like I said, we had a good vibe together and
all that good stuff.

Speaker 19 (01:44:11):
So you know, just just you know, good friends.

Speaker 3 (01:44:15):
Well good, I'm sorry.

Speaker 2 (01:44:16):
I'm sorry you're losing a friend, but you got friends
to us now we're not nearly as attractive as as
she is. I'm assuming, but you know we are your
friends here at seven and we appreciate you opening up
your your personal.

Speaker 3 (01:44:27):
Life dust Ross or to Alan, I should say, yeah,
thank you.

Speaker 7 (01:44:29):
No problem at all. You guys are fantastic.

Speaker 2 (01:44:31):
Well see, thank you very much. Nice to hear from you.
All Right, there you go. Well, I feel kind of
bad for Allen. Now Loss's girls going to Arizona. To
the other sister. There will always be another, but there's
only gonna be one of that.

Speaker 3 (01:44:45):
I forgot. We forgot to ask her the girl's name?
Does it matter? I mean, it's fine his name or
her real name? Penelope, Penelope, Tiffany with two eyes, with
two eyes t I A.

Speaker 2 (01:45:00):
Why would anybody put an eye on the end of Tiffany?
That's absurd? All right, crockets for the Suns in March
in Phoenix.

Speaker 3 (01:45:11):
What does that mean? You taking her to the game.

Speaker 2 (01:45:13):
No, I'm just giving information. You're gonna swoop this girl.

Speaker 3 (01:45:17):
Come on, I'm gonna.

Speaker 2 (01:45:19):
Did I not tell you guys earlier that was gonna
give you the rocket schedule the rest of the way.

Speaker 3 (01:45:23):
Oh yes, my job it okay, thank you?

Speaker 5 (01:45:27):
Matt.

Speaker 2 (01:45:29):
So, if there's any strippers out there that would like
to have Allan as a friend, let me tell you
if you didn't hear that, the delightfulness in his voice,
I'm sure Alan, I mean, it's as nice as it gets. Steakhouse. Yeah,
it's gonna try to go back to the club one
more time to see her goodbye, spend some more money

(01:45:49):
on her before she leaves a little extra gas money.

Speaker 3 (01:45:52):
That's what a friend does. That's what Allan is. Alan's friend.
They went dutch at the steakhouse. If you split the
checks or you just say here, I'll pay for this,
pay the rent. I mean you don't. You don't probably
just hand them two cards and tell them to split it.
That's what do you mean? What could be? What if?

Speaker 2 (01:46:05):
What if she spent more money on uh like if
she bought a lot of booze and he didn't drink anything.

Speaker 3 (01:46:11):
I don't know. You're so ridiculous, You're ridiculous. All right,
Thank you, Al, thank you for joining us here on
the program.

Speaker 2 (01:46:21):
Wow, that's let me tell you there are a lot
of radio shows doing Valentine's Day stories. That's not going
to be played anywhere else. The Mad Thomas Show with Ross.
Don't you you can't. You can't eject from this show yet.
I'm trying distance. You wanted your name on the show?
You got it now.

Speaker 3 (01:46:40):
Yeah, mistakes were made. It's too it's too late.

Speaker 8 (01:46:42):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:46:42):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (01:46:45):
I don't want to go from here honestly to break.

Speaker 2 (01:46:49):
I mean, besides that, what's that? What's the very next
thing we're going to talk about on the show today?

Speaker 3 (01:46:53):
Uh, Lanceola's junior not going to the bullpen.

Speaker 2 (01:46:58):
We just talk in the Rockets second half wishes for
the Rockets, all.

Speaker 3 (01:47:02):
Right, I owe you the Rockets second half schedule.

Speaker 5 (01:47:04):
Yes.

Speaker 7 (01:47:05):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:47:06):
And by the way, and I'm not going to mention
this person's name. There's somebody that is a familiar media
personality in this town that tweeted out something today that
it's not great. But stop sending it to me. I've
already seen it. Y'all are sending me a bunch of
dms on this. I'm like, man, I've seen it all,

(01:47:27):
and so's everybody else.

Speaker 3 (01:47:30):
Got no comments? Good? It's better than you don't.

Speaker 2 (01:47:34):
People make mistakes and they send out tweets at hot
hours of the day.

Speaker 3 (01:47:39):
Seven one three two.

Speaker 1 (01:47:43):
Matt Thomas, Ross Viel It's the Matt Thomas Show with
Ross on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:47:56):
We were just talking about a moment ago about how
Shaquille and Neil was like, I can swear on national
television because I'm not going to probably get I'm probably
gonna get fired. Mike McCarthy of The Athletic the Media
Reporter just announcing him about an hour ago that Shaq
has a new agreement in place to stay long term
at TNT that will pay him over fifteen million dollars

(01:48:18):
per year.

Speaker 3 (01:48:19):
Wow, fifteen million.

Speaker 2 (01:48:22):
Dollars per year to not care about the game he's
about to call, to barely pay attention to what the
NBA is doing right now, and to make fun of
Charles and Kenny and Ernie for about thirty weeks a
year and threatening to fight each other basically every show.
It's pretty good, it's fun, it's great, spectacular, dynamite programming.

Speaker 3 (01:48:42):
And the all time category.

Speaker 2 (01:48:44):
If I just don't get it, I got All Time
goat category.

Speaker 3 (01:48:50):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:48:51):
The amount of money that is being spent on national
television personalities, you're bidding against yourself.

Speaker 3 (01:49:03):
In TNT's case, you're.

Speaker 2 (01:49:05):
Bidding against Amazon Prime, NBC in ESPN, although really not
an ESPN because the TNT show is going to go
to ESPN for the NBA side of it, So you're
really bidding against two other groups of people. Mm hm.
We saw the Tom Brady three undred and seventy five
million dollars deal, again a lot of money.

Speaker 3 (01:49:27):
Probably could have got him for half of that.

Speaker 2 (01:49:29):
Maybe what would the viewership have been a Super Bowl
Sunday if it were Greg Olsen instead of Tom Brady?
Zero decline, exact same right, Yeah, broadcast probably would have
even been better. It would have been more analytical for sure.
Not the time did a poor job, but no, Olsen
has prepared for this all of his life and he's
done a great job. He's also very upset about this.

(01:49:52):
Oh you're not afraid to tell you either. So under
the all time, I just don't get it. Look, every
media job, including ours, there's a certain economic expectation to it.
But I'm not necessarily competing against other people in my

(01:50:13):
in my marketplace for my services. I'm competing against do
I want to stay in this business? And there's just
a certain threshold that seven ninety iHeartMedia Houston, Texas is
going to pay for you and I do a radio show.
I mean, I'm just I'm flabbergasted about the money that
is spent. Like Joe Bucken, Treigman do a fantastic job

(01:50:34):
on Monday Night football, did a great job in the playoffs,
did a great job calling that Texans Chiefs game. I mean,
they really separated themselves from the Jibbronis. But it could
have been Lavernon Shirley doing the broadcast and I would
have watched the game because that's the Texans playing, right.

Speaker 3 (01:50:48):
I mean, yeah, I don't. I don't know. I don't.

Speaker 2 (01:50:51):
There has to be some sort of element they look,
they wouldn't spend all this money if it wouldn't worth it.

Speaker 7 (01:50:56):
No, I don't.

Speaker 2 (01:50:57):
If you want to spend crazy money on Steven A
because he drives a show, I get that.

Speaker 3 (01:51:03):
I get that people do tune into Cee Stephen. They do.

Speaker 2 (01:51:06):
Yeah, and I don't, but I understand that people do.
But there is but also he's also competing against what FS.
One's not gonna get in that sweepstakes for that kind
of money going independent.

Speaker 3 (01:51:18):
Let me tell you go into YouTube. Ain't going to
do it.

Speaker 2 (01:51:20):
You may make some money on YouTube but you're gonna
make a lot. But if YouTube offers you money, it
would be Google. It would be giving him the money, Okay,
but it won't be any close to what the ESPN
is offering. And ultimately, no matter, No, there is the
only person I can think of, and I could be
very much wrong on this. The only person that left
mainstream media to go to play b media, meaning something

(01:51:42):
that wasn't the networks that was successful. It was probably
Howard Stern, Right, Howard Stern took a gamble on this
serious XM and has made gazillions of dollars. Yeah, but
they offered him like five hundred million dollars to go.
There's a lot of money to get him to go. Yeah,
it's different. But like even McAfee, McAfee created his little
niche on the YouTube.

Speaker 3 (01:52:02):
Yeah, and then he has ben said I want that.
I'm I'm gonna pay you for.

Speaker 2 (01:52:05):
That, giving him like eighty five ninety million, oh whatever
it is, and to hang out in with tank tops
and his nineteen members of his team. He's got our
shirt on like forty percent of the time. That's nice,
that's good. National media talent spending is crazy, and who
are you competing against. I mean, was there really going

(01:52:29):
to be a bidding war for Tom did? Was CBSK
going to offer ten years three eighty?

Speaker 8 (01:52:35):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:52:35):
That's I mean that you're talking about Fox. That's of
course wh're they're bidding against.

Speaker 3 (01:52:39):
But I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:52:40):
I mean, you're paying Joe Buck to do twenty games
a year, probably ten million bucks? How much does it
matter with sponsors? Are sponsors more attracted because Tom Brady
is on the broadcast? So you go meet people and
why he tom Brady won? There is there is a
sales component to it. You can Fox can use Tom
Brady to go help them sell the Thursday night at American

(01:53:00):
Idol or whatever that, you know, whatever the shows are
on you. I mean, he's not just saying, hey, come
buy our NFL stuff. He's he's you're bringing Tom Brady
to a national pitch. He's going in the national pitch
and saying, hey, why don't you guys sponsored the masked singer?

Speaker 3 (01:53:12):
Yeah, spend money with Fox.

Speaker 7 (01:53:15):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:53:15):
I'm sure the NFL is the most important thing he's
trying to sell, but he's probably being used for the
things absolutely because Tom Brady transcends football.

Speaker 7 (01:53:27):
All right.

Speaker 2 (01:53:29):
Yeah, so Shaq is getting fifteen MILLI a year to
do nothing but basically humor himself, fall down and crash
on a Christmas tree, tackle Kenny and insult Chuck. Not
know who's active for the game or not. Like for Shack,

(01:53:49):
I don't need shacking my TNT. I told you Charles
makes me laugh. Shack is fun.

Speaker 3 (01:53:53):
Shack and Chuck, I mean they got it. It's goods
for sure. Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:53:57):
Let's talk to John and Memorial twelve thirty. Anything goes Friday, John,
Good afternoon to you.

Speaker 20 (01:54:05):
Hey, Matt, Hey ROSSI I was at the Rockets game
last night.

Speaker 3 (01:54:11):
Me too.

Speaker 20 (01:54:12):
Questions, Oh well, you involved one of my questions. So,
I mean, it's been a really fun team to watch
this year, with the exception of the you know, last
ten games or so, it just seems like there's so
much inconsistency. Granted, I'm not a I don't know a
ton about basketball, but I mean, is there a way

(01:54:33):
to get that on track? I at least have one
or two guys that can consistently go out and at
least offensively score some points. And then two other questions.
I'll just hang up and listen. First, who let's read
shepherd walk around with that haircut.

Speaker 3 (01:54:52):
A wait, I'm not.

Speaker 2 (01:54:55):
Don't don't mess them. It's a young twenty year old.
It's kinda he's still a bro. He may be a
rich bro, but he's still a bro.

Speaker 20 (01:55:01):
Even the prime of his life. He needs he needs
a new haircut. He's a good guy, by the way.

Speaker 7 (01:55:07):
Yeah, yeah, I'm sure.

Speaker 20 (01:55:08):
And then my last question, and and then I'll hang up,
is why do you sit in a big, tall, fancy.

Speaker 3 (01:55:14):
Chair at the radio cable over there? I just like it.
That's it. Yeah, there's uh, there's chairs in a fancy chair.

Speaker 2 (01:55:24):
I'm not if it's not. It's not comfortable. It's a
it's a wooden chair. It elevates me a little bit
higher to see over stuff.

Speaker 3 (01:55:30):
Oh you want to be a hell you want to
be elevated higher over everyone else.

Speaker 2 (01:55:36):
Actually, the usually most other visiting radio broadcasters use those chairs.
And I looked over and I said I should try that.

Speaker 7 (01:55:44):
So I have.

Speaker 3 (01:55:46):
Rather than going with I think Ackerman goes with like
four booster cushions.

Speaker 2 (01:55:49):
Well he has a bigger chair than I do. His
has actually got what is this what is this surf?
What is his made of hair? What is this what
do you mean cotton cotton?

Speaker 3 (01:55:58):
Yeah, he's got a cotton chair. I don't have.

Speaker 2 (01:56:00):
Mine is a hard chair. Oh you got a hardwood chair,
hardwood chair. He's got a soft cotton chair. Is it
a rocking chair? He's TV.

Speaker 3 (01:56:08):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:56:09):
Usually I have a folding chair with two cushions on it.
But I just thought I'll try the I'll try the
wooden chair. I like a cushion game. I mean I
don't use one on my side. What do you sit
with you sitting?

Speaker 3 (01:56:22):
It's a regular fold up cushion chair. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:56:25):
I have but two monitors in front of me. One
is a the game, and then I have stats song likes.
Instead of having to look straight, I look over bove it.
I can just sit and sit there. Yeah, you guys
need those monitors. We have monitor We just literally lay
them down because what do you really Yeah, so act
that's funny. They're in the way of us sing unless
I get cushions. Yeah, and then it was I gonna
tell you. Oh. As far as the scores, I mean,

(01:56:47):
the Rockets have been mid scores all year long. They
have not been in the top ten. I don't think
much at all this year has been great. Their offense
is bottom four and free throw shoot. By the way,
the free throw numbers our feet. They went what they
knew yesterday? They were ten of eighteen. What about that?
I mean Alpi's numbers have fallen off the map. He's

(01:57:07):
now under seventy percent for the year, where he was
at like seventy five seventy six. Yeah, he's dropped and
now everybody's missing free throws. Their twenty fifth in field
goal percentage, twenty seventh I think in free throw and
about twenty eighth and three point, twenty eighth and three point.
They got up to nineteenth for a little while. They

(01:57:27):
did for three point, Yeah, they did. It was remember
when when when Jalen Green was hitting everything. It was
like a two week period where Jalen Green was shooting
like fifty percent when he went on that nine game streak,
and then Fred van Vliet was knocking everything down. They
had till nineteen. Yeah, are you absolutely sure about that?
I can pull it up.

Speaker 3 (01:57:46):
You really can't.

Speaker 2 (01:57:47):
I don't think you can pull it up. Does it
show how the numbers change?

Speaker 3 (01:57:52):
It would take some work. Rosse.

Speaker 2 (01:57:54):
I love you like a like a third cousin. There
was never a point there were nineteen.

Speaker 3 (01:57:59):
It was like a game. It was like for a
game or two.

Speaker 2 (01:58:01):
Yeah, when they were very far early in the year,
it was the I'm telling you it was in the
middle of that stretch. You can't go for nineteen. There's
too many shots being taken. You can't go from nineteen
to twenty eight. You can't drop that. It's the percentages.
Don't have to go off that much. They were over
They were like at thirty four and a half percent
or something, and it went from nine. I can I
can find team ranks of three point percentage.

Speaker 3 (01:58:20):
Okay, I gotta check that out, because I don't know
if I believe that. I don't care. I know you
didn't care. What was the other thing? What was the
thing you were wrong on yesterday?

Speaker 2 (01:58:27):
I can't remember. Oh oh, a gold glover moving from
one perce. Yeah, you said it never happened in the
baseball history.

Speaker 3 (01:58:33):
So I took one. You found one person sixty years
or doing. I kind of win my argument.

Speaker 2 (01:58:39):
No, I stopped after finding one. You think I can't
find another?

Speaker 3 (01:58:42):
Keep going.

Speaker 2 (01:58:43):
No, you're gonna walk on this free three point percentage first, Okay.
I feel like the entire season they've either been twenty
fifth or below. Nineteenth right now would be thirty five.
They're at thirty three nine, so one percentage point. They
weren't up a percentage point for like a couple of days.
I'm not saying they were up. They weren't up, but

(01:59:04):
I'm saying they I would. I have to call it
rockets pr. This is gonna bug me really because if
that's the case, then the drop off has been dramatic.

Speaker 7 (01:59:13):
No.

Speaker 2 (01:59:13):
They yeah, they went up. It was it was because,
like I said, Fred Van Vliet was making everything. Jalen
Jalen Green was shooting for like fifty five percent from
three or something for like nine ten games.

Speaker 3 (01:59:24):
People Jalen Green made it. You know what you're I mean,
I could be wrong.

Speaker 2 (01:59:26):
You're sorry, your stats guy, No, it's wrong.

Speaker 3 (01:59:28):
I mean, look, I could be wrong. I'm wrong every day,
I know.

Speaker 2 (01:59:31):
Twelve forty three Sports Talk seven ninety This is a
Matt Thomas show at Ross at one o'clock. We relive
thirty something happened thirty years ago today and that is
the client drex A trade Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 1 (01:59:43):
Ninety more Matt Thomas Show with Ross Now, but Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:59:59):
I just texted the rock it's Pierre department. They're like,
leave me alone. I'm at the altar game.

Speaker 3 (02:00:04):
That's nice.

Speaker 2 (02:00:06):
Well least he responded. So I was telling somebody that
they were nineteen. I have the I have the taproo. Yeah, yeah,
I know, but I must say I think I might
have had bad information. Well, let me tell you something.
You are working with someone that's been giving out bad
information for a long time in my life, no sweat.
The Rockets got the nineteenth ross, they'd have five more
wins and if they could stay there. Yeah, last night

(02:00:29):
the Rockets shot thirty three percent from three twelve to
thirty six. The Warriors were eleven to forty one to
twenty six percent. Rockets out rebounded the Warriors fifty two
to forty two fifteen offensive rebounds. Warriors went to the
free throw line twenty seven times, made twenty four. The
Rockets were ten of eighteen for the line. And all

(02:00:51):
of the starters were told, essentially by Ima Doka, I
shut their masses up, go set on the bench, and you.

Speaker 3 (02:00:57):
Know what they did. What they did. They didn't sell
on the bench.

Speaker 2 (02:00:59):
They stood on the bench like when you know you
get in trouble, you can't go sit down in the corner.
You got a stand in the corner. That's exactly what
he made did to the starters last night. He's like,
you're gonna stand up and you're gonna watch this.

Speaker 3 (02:01:08):
Yeah, he does that a lot. You're gonna watch Jack.

Speaker 2 (02:01:09):
Landell and Nate Williams helped his comeback. Nate Williams out
there taking names. Yeah, they went from they got from
twenty four down to two. And if Jack Landell misses
makes a little runner on the right side, it's a
tie game. Jack Landale, Well, now we're on the All

(02:01:30):
Star break, thankfully, and that one six and nine scored
thirteen points. It's good, not bad, not better at all.
Let's go to uh. Jason and Katie at twelve fifty
on The Matt Thomas Show with Ross Jason, Good afternoon, Hey.

Speaker 6 (02:01:43):
Good after Hey.

Speaker 8 (02:01:44):
Look, yesterday I get to work and I checked the
I always get on my website and checked out the lines,
and the rockets were minus six, and then about an
hour later it moved to minus six and a half.
So I took Golden State. So then I get off
of work and I go to the bar and I
look at the bottom line, and there it is minus
one and a half. I'm like, why did it shift

(02:02:05):
so many points?

Speaker 10 (02:02:07):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (02:02:07):
I think there was people weren't sure that. Uh it
was probably injuries, right, Matt, wasn't it. Curry was in
question for a little while. The only player that was
confirmed out last night for Golden State was cominga. Gary
Payton was a late scratch.

Speaker 3 (02:02:23):
But before the game, I mean like, like the day before,
when did you do this? You said in the morning, Jason.

Speaker 8 (02:02:29):
Yeah, in the morning. In the morning it was it
was it was rockets. But see if it shifted. I
thought somebody was out in the rockets. But then when
I looked at everybody in there, everybody was in there.
So I'm like, why would it shift five points?

Speaker 2 (02:02:39):
I think in the morning there was still doubt that
Curry and others were going to play on the back
to back.

Speaker 3 (02:02:43):
Yeah. K Curry was talking. Remember in this post game,
he was like, Oh, we're gonna get there three A Jason.

Speaker 2 (02:02:47):
They did not release injury reports until one o'clock yesterday afternoon.

Speaker 7 (02:02:50):
That makes shifted it.

Speaker 8 (02:02:52):
I got I got one more thing for y'all. I
would then, and I can't think of anything else or
anybody else it would be. But I bet out to day, Well, well,
how does he call him?

Speaker 7 (02:03:03):
Hosey?

Speaker 3 (02:03:04):
Hosey.

Speaker 8 (02:03:04):
Altuve will be the next guy to have his jersey
in the raptors. I don't think there'd be anybody else
that'd be my bed, but I'll hang up.

Speaker 2 (02:03:11):
Let y'all go among those on this on this current regime.
We mentioned that a little bit yesterday. Korey and no Springer,
no Verlander. I'm going to go to the yes on
Verlander retired number because I think it's going to be

(02:03:34):
more owner influenced, like you know how Clyde's number got
retired by the Rockets.

Speaker 3 (02:03:38):
By less Alexander. Because sometimes you just have your faves.
In Jim.

Speaker 2 (02:03:43):
One of Jim Crane's all time faves is justin Verlander.

Speaker 3 (02:03:49):
I would say probably yes, does he deserve it?

Speaker 7 (02:03:53):
Sure?

Speaker 2 (02:03:53):
When no? No, I see, I don't think you can
say sure? Why not when it comes to jersey retirements. Yes,
I don't have a bunch of them? Yeah, they do
not really for a franchise been around since the sixties,
wy he seven or eight more, that's not that's not
a lot. Go look go look at the Yankees, Go
look at the Celtics. They've got like twenty five round
for one hundred years. The Astros are half that. The

(02:04:17):
Astro's been around since nineteen sixty two. M that's how
many years sixty.

Speaker 3 (02:04:22):
Years of the rocket's been around. They've only got.

Speaker 2 (02:04:25):
Rockets been around since seventy when they were in San Diego.

Speaker 3 (02:04:28):
They've got what six or seven?

Speaker 2 (02:04:30):
Yeah, I think they've They've got a good ratio of
number of jersey retirement now one now, one of them
obviously is Jackie Robinson. Yeah, one is I believe a
player that died early of a heart attack. They've got
ten now astros. So okay, let me let me think

(02:04:52):
if I know who they are. Scott Derker mm hmm,
Ryan Bigio, bag Well.

Speaker 3 (02:05:01):
Yes, Don Wilson, Yes, how do I know that? I
don't know who am I forgetting?

Speaker 2 (02:05:09):
Jimmy Winn, Jose Cruz, Jim Umbrick, Jackie Robinson. You said Dirky, right?

Speaker 3 (02:05:13):
Yeah? I did say Drker?

Speaker 2 (02:05:14):
Yeah, I uh, boy Verlander and Bragman are Wagner's going in,
by the way, so you know what they're both getting
the jersey retired. If Billy Wagner's getting his jersey retired,
so to is Alex Bregmant and so too is justin Verlander?

Speaker 3 (02:05:36):
There I said it so be at twelve? Yeah, for
sixty years?

Speaker 2 (02:05:40):
Not terrible. Oh, like it's too many. I think it's
like God likes Porridges just right. So Jim Umbrick is
the one that died, right, Yes, he's the one that passed. Yeah,
Don Wilson, is he that good? I never saw him.
I never saw Jimmy Winn play. I just saw I
mean obvious, that's the video high it's been.

Speaker 3 (02:06:00):
Or saw him play? Okay? You still okay?

Speaker 2 (02:06:06):
I'm gonna say one two three for who Verlander one
two three No, I wouldn't do it. One two three yes,
Well you're rolling Billy Wagner one two three no, because
I think what what Basically, if Wagner is getting in,
that should push the other two way over the top.
To me, if you are retiring a number, that number
is so tied to that person and it's such a

(02:06:30):
popular number that you couldn't possibly think of another player
wearing that number.

Speaker 3 (02:06:34):
I think of that.

Speaker 2 (02:06:36):
If that that's your argument, I can't think of anybody's
not wearing thirteen.

Speaker 3 (02:06:38):
Again, I can't. Has nobody warned it yet?

Speaker 2 (02:06:42):
Since I don't, I don't know I'm sure they have,
but I don't think anybody should wear thirteen again. Billy Wagner,
for a long stretch was the was the I mean
a shutdown.

Speaker 3 (02:06:53):
Absolutely, he's what, He's what people want. Josh Hanter to be.

Speaker 2 (02:06:58):
Three batters, not nine on the gun boom boom boom
out like ten people have worn it. Oh, forgot about
Tyler White? Did you ever say Tyler or Tyler White
went out there wearing thirteen?

Speaker 3 (02:07:08):
And you're like, man, I can't believe they're using Billy
Wagner's not. I bet you I have. There's no way you.
I bet you Abraham Toro wearing thirteen. You're like, yeah,
I can't.

Speaker 2 (02:07:15):
Believe Abraham Toro is wearing Billy Wager's number.

Speaker 3 (02:07:19):
And nobody said that was zero.

Speaker 2 (02:07:21):
That was an insult, not a person, outrage by the organization.
Literally three years later, Eric Munson was wearing it. Shouldn't
be retired. I'm sticking with it. Ronnie Sedanio, Domingo Santana, Okay,
Dustin Garnett, will you have the stones to say when
Billy Wagner joins this radio show? At some point j
J should chevick, but shouldn't a Hall of famers never

(02:07:41):
be retired.

Speaker 3 (02:07:43):
I guess right. Think about it.

Speaker 2 (02:07:46):
If you're in the Hall of Fame, when Cooper Hummel
was wearing thirteen, did you go did you at any
point say, I can't believe that they're wearing Cooper Hummels
wearing Billy Wagner's number. But he thought, I said, was
who the hell is Cooper Humbles exactly? So nobody said that,
So me go back to my original question. Though, if
you get in the Hall of Fame, shouldn't that doesn't
that mean you're one of the all time, all time greats.

(02:08:08):
The answers yes to that. So he wasn't a Hall
of Famer last year. So because he got twenty more
votes or whatever, he's now you got to retire his number.
The Astros retire his number because some other body gave
him thirty five to forty more votes or whatever it was. Yeah,
to answer your question, yes, okay, if the major it's
a If the Pro Baseball Hall of Fame thinks you're
one of the all time greats, that means you're probably

(02:08:29):
definitely a whole time great of that particular day for
nine years. Cooper Humble, Yeah, Cooper Huma wore his number.
Nobody was an outrage that they do. I can't believe
Billy Wagner's number. Multiple shows with it, Steve Pierce, ste
god Man, there's some sucky thirteen's.

Speaker 3 (02:08:47):
Abraham. I'm sure Piers listening. Nice.

Speaker 2 (02:08:51):
I mean, we're a big tooral fans. Jacob Wilson War thirteen.
Nobody said a word. We were mad. We're still mad.
Tyler the Great White people were manufacturing nicknames for him.
Nobody said, I can't believe he's wearing Billy Wagon. We
let off the show. Won like, at least you're a
liar and a fraud. All right, let's talk to Greg
Razer for the Chronicle. Happy anniversary for you, Clyde Drexler fans,

(02:09:12):
for you Rocket fans, let'scuss that next as a Matt
Thomas Show continues at twelve fifty eight on Sports Talk
seven ninety launchtimers.

Speaker 3 (02:09:22):
This is the Matt Thomas Show, thirty years ago. Today.

Speaker 2 (02:09:29):
The Rockets make a trade as part of the nineteen
ninety four ninety five season that turns into an NBA championship,
their second one for the Great City Houston. Greg Rogin
front of the show, Rossie Greg's been saying, when are
you gonna finally get me on the Matt Thomas Show?

Speaker 3 (02:09:46):
Dross? No, he's been texting me like every day, every day.

Speaker 2 (02:09:50):
It's too much. Greg wants in a show so bad,
So let's get him on the show. Let's get him
some shine. He wrote a brilliant article that I read
today because I'm a Chronicle online subscriber. We only read
it because you were in it. That can't be true. Hi, Greg,
what's going on?

Speaker 16 (02:10:05):
And you know I said I'd only come on once
you added Ross's name.

Speaker 2 (02:10:09):
I know, I know that is the exact sentiment. He says,
I'm not coming on your show until Ross's name gets.

Speaker 3 (02:10:15):
Aid, And Matt said, will only put you on the
show unless you write an article with him in it. Yeah,
aren't you doing a dartest story about me? Soon enough?
It's been a couple of years.

Speaker 7 (02:10:23):
I don't know.

Speaker 16 (02:10:23):
I've only written like two or three profiles of you
over the years.

Speaker 3 (02:10:26):
I guess for an update, Well, the Numberest show they're
doing quite well, quite well.

Speaker 2 (02:10:31):
Hey, Uh, first of all, happy anniversary. Now what we now?
You're younger than I am, obviously, what were you doing
thirty years ago? Do and you're you're you have Corpus
Christy ties. Is that just where you worked originally? Tell
me where you're from.

Speaker 16 (02:10:44):
I'm from Austin, okay, thirty years ago. This makes me
feel old. I was a senior in college.

Speaker 3 (02:10:50):
Oh you are old then, okay, good, you're older than
I am younger.

Speaker 16 (02:10:53):
Than you, but I'm still than.

Speaker 3 (02:10:56):
I got you. I got you, all right.

Speaker 2 (02:10:57):
So, uh so being in Austin, I'm I'm assuming you're
in Spurs country.

Speaker 3 (02:11:01):
Is that correct?

Speaker 16 (02:11:03):
Austin is a Spurs TV market. Yeah, but I followed
the Rockets a lot because of Elijah on back then.
I was more into the Rockets than the Spurs.

Speaker 3 (02:11:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 16 (02:11:12):
I only got to see Rockets games like if they
were National TV games.

Speaker 2 (02:11:15):
Mostly so the kid in you saw this major trade,
the young broadcaster and me saw this as working the
PA that night and the whole NBA world's like Clyde Drexler,
mister Portland Trailblazer, I mean, the greatest Blazer not to
win a championship. And obviously Bill Walton helped them win
in seventy seven, but they were They got close a
couple of different ocasions and eventually lost. He basically says

(02:11:38):
I don't want to be around for the rebuild now.
In your article today, Clyde brought up that this was
comp to Luca leaving Dallas to go to the Los
Angeles Lakers. Do you agree with that comp or is
it pretty close but not completely the same thing.

Speaker 16 (02:11:55):
I think it's pretty close because, like when we grew
up following the NBA, you didn't see guys like Clyde
Dretxler get traded, you know, like guys stayed with one
team pretty much their whole career. Superstars like Larry Bird,
Magic Johnson, those types. And Clyde was the best player
on some very good Portland teams. They went to the
finals twice, lost of the Pistons lost. The Bulls also

(02:12:18):
had the best record in the Western Conference in ninety one,
lost to the Lakers in the conference finals. So to
see a player of his stature being traded in season
that was kind of surprising. I think there's a lot
more feur over Luka Doncic because it's a different media environment.
There was no social media back then. I'm pretty sure
I found out about the Clyde trade. I heard it

(02:12:39):
on the car radio when I was driving. I mean,
I wasn't getting an update on my phone at midnight
on a Saturday like the Luca trade. But I think
I think there's a colonel of truth to what Clyde saying,
because yeah, I mean, he was mister Trailblazer, you know,
for that era and for him to get traded. I'm
sure Paul Allen got some blowback, no doubt.

Speaker 3 (02:13:00):
I'm curious.

Speaker 2 (02:13:00):
I don't know if you had an opportunity to ask this,
but what if Paul Allen, the owner of the Blazers
at the time, had said, Clyde, you're mister Blazer, I'm
not training you. We're gonna keep We're gonna we're gonna
transform this team, but you're still a part of it.
I wonder how things would have turned out if Clyde
would have gotten sorely with the Blazers and done something
that a lot of teams are now doing in the

(02:13:20):
NBA when guys are unhappy, like Jimmy Butler, for example,
and just not play well.

Speaker 3 (02:13:26):
There is a quote in.

Speaker 16 (02:13:27):
The story where Clyde says, I'm not interested in teaching.
I'm a competitor and if I can't compete, I'm gonna
do something else. What that something else is you know,
who knows. I don't know what Clyde have sat out
and demanded a trade. I'm not sure, but we'll never know.
But for him to really to go to the owner
and ask for a trade, I think, you know, it
takes some uh some nerves and you know, eventually got

(02:13:50):
his way. He said Houston was the only team he
would have accepted a trade to, So I'm really not
sure like if Clyde would have been content going to
some other team at that point in his career.

Speaker 3 (02:14:00):
It is kind of strange greg that he was.

Speaker 2 (02:14:01):
He went to Paul and said, look, I want to
go to this young Houston team. Elijah Want's my teammate
uh in college, were in the They're in the prime
of their NBA career. I mean, we've seen teams asked
for trails, like Jimmy Butler wanted to play in Phoenix,
and I hate to keep bring up Jimmy's name, but
that just wasn't gonna happen because Durant wanted to know
part of Golden State. So, uh, I don't know if

(02:14:22):
there's been other guys that were before Clyde that demanded a.

Speaker 3 (02:14:26):
Trade to one particular team. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:14:28):
Did did did a Kareem demand you go to LA
Lakers or the Milwaukee Bucks has found a suitor. I
don't know, but it was certainly strange at the time
that a player could not only ask for a trade,
still very much in the prime of his career, but
do so to one particular team, because I remember some
of the details are sketchy for me because it's been
so long. But it wasn't like you had, Hey, Clyde's available,

(02:14:50):
call my Portland general manager and and I'll take your
best offer.

Speaker 5 (02:14:54):
No, I don't.

Speaker 16 (02:14:55):
I don't recall it being like that either. I think
with the case of Kareem, it was like a lifestyle thing.
He didn't like living in Milwaukee at that point. It
didn't suit him, and he wanted a trade I think
to the Lakers or Knicks. I could be wrong, but
I know I think he had ties to LA obviously
since he played at UCLA with Clyde. I'm not sure
how that worked, but like I had other people saying

(02:15:16):
that Rudy comes down and it's really needed, you know,
to upgrade the offense, and you know Clyde was the
best option to do that, and they found a way
to make it fit. I mean, it took some pain
because you know, giving up out of stop that's that's tough. Yeah,
when he was a big, big part of the Rockets
beating the Knicks the year before, a very popular teammate,
and you're gonna you're gonna ruffle some feathers in that

(02:15:38):
dressing room. But eventually they you know, they pulled the
trigger on the trade and it paid off for them,
although not initially. You know, through the end of the
regular season and lived there were one game under five
hundred to finish the season, so but come the playoffs,
you know, that's when that trade really paid.

Speaker 7 (02:15:54):
Off for them.

Speaker 2 (02:15:55):
Did you make much effort to try to get a
hold of the Portland side of this deal at all?

Speaker 7 (02:16:00):
I mean, I just I was.

Speaker 16 (02:16:01):
I was more interested in the Houston side, and you
know Clyde. I talked to Clyde about this trade years ago.
Then I got back in touch with him this week
and I wanted to get some different perspectives on that trade.
But I mean, with you know, Paul al Lolin, he
is deceased, so I'm really not sure if management at
the time in Portland had anything to do with that deal,
or if that's strictly you know, an ownership deal where
he says, we're trade and Clyde and you know, make

(02:16:23):
it work.

Speaker 2 (02:16:24):
Could you imagine being ot during that time? Greg here
you are now granted that ninety four to ninety five
team just never could not to get out of its way,
but they were losing way more than a defending champion
would have lost. They were a two seed going into
the playoffs. The previous year they had fallen to that
eventually ended up at six. So it wasn't like this
was a juggernaut. I'm curious how things would have gone.

(02:16:46):
And I've talked to Rudy about this several times and
Lady has said it over and over again. He says, look,
people were asking us to make a move because they
were sick of us finishing. They were disappointed ab us
finishing in the bottom four of the West. And then
if you make a trade, who are you giving up?
Because it's going to hurt. And I know Vernon Max
his name was being brought up in possibilities. I don't
know if odos Thorp was a surprise or not, but
you were taking a solid back to the basket power

(02:17:08):
forward a true power forward an ODIs Thorp and replacing
him with a position you already had its strength in
Vernon Maxwell playing the two guard position.

Speaker 16 (02:17:17):
Yeah, you're right, because you're not trading position for position
because Clyde, he doesn't come in and necessarily replace ODIs Thorp.
He's replacing Bernon Maxwell in the starting lineup. And obviously
Bernon Maxwell got sideways with that and left the team
during the first round against Utah. And as for what
ODIs Thorp's feeling, that's got to be tough because you're
a key contributor and a championship team that finally breaks

(02:17:38):
through the year before, and then they deem you expendable
when you're trying to repeat. So I'm sure he took
that really hard.

Speaker 3 (02:17:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:17:46):
Greg graduate with us from the Houston Chronicle, one of
the senior editors, and a piece on their website today
about the thirty year anniversary. So and look, I haven't
gone back to look at how things went, but was
there a turning point that maybe Clyde's maybe that when
you were doing some stat analysis, what was the turning
point that turned this bottom third playoff team into a

(02:18:07):
potential repeat champion?

Speaker 16 (02:18:10):
You know, Cole people I talked you sited in a
couple of memorable moments. Clyde hit a buzz beater in
Denver late in the regular season, he banked a three
pointer at the buzzer to beat the Nuggets. That was
kind of like one thing, although they didn't. That wasn't
necessarily like a springboard. I think it's more two games
that stuck out with Clyde. Game four, the first rout

(02:18:30):
against Utah. They're facing the elimination at the summit. He
and a team both score forty points. Only the third
pair of teammates that both score forty points in the
playoff game. They win that game. Then they go up
to Salt Lake City, come back and win Game five.
But the Clyde game that really stuck out with people,
and it's funny because it's his worst statistical game of

(02:18:50):
the playoffs. Game five, atts He's sick all day with
the flu, drags himself out of bed, gets to the
arena like five to five point thirty. He's in the
starting lineup. He doesn't contribute much, but just the fact
that he was out there giving it a go. He
has a very important contest on Wesley person at the
end of regulation if Wesley person makes his three point

(02:19:13):
of the series is over Rocket surviving overtime. And Tim Frank,
who was one of the media relations guys at the time,
said that was really the game that kind of galvanized
them because they looked dead in the water. He went
out there, he gave them a spark reason to believe,
and they came back to win that series, and then
they took care of San Antonio and Orlando to win
the championship.

Speaker 3 (02:19:33):
Help me out.

Speaker 2 (02:19:34):
Wasn't that the Series two that Jake o'donald tossed Clyde
early in the game with a couple of technical fouls
and then Jake never worked again.

Speaker 7 (02:19:41):
That was Yeah?

Speaker 16 (02:19:42):
Was that Game one or Game two at Phoenix?

Speaker 7 (02:19:44):
Yah?

Speaker 2 (02:19:44):
It was definitely in Phoenix, I know that for a fact.
Don't remember which number it was, but I remember Jake
tossing Clyde really quick. The whole world of sports stopped
for seconds. Did Jake o'donald just tossed Clyde Drexler for something?

Speaker 7 (02:19:57):
You know?

Speaker 2 (02:19:57):
Look, Clyde was sly on the court. He would say
things under his breath to get under official skin. I
think he'd be the first one that meant that to you.
But for him to get tossed for what he said
or didn't say, or how he handled it that fast
in the game, I mean the NBA basically said, Jake o'donald,
you've got screws loose, you lost control of it. You'll
never referee a game again. And that was the very
last time that Jake O'Donnell ever refereed to the NBA
basketball game.

Speaker 16 (02:20:19):
Very sure, because they had had b for years on
the court and then Jake o'donald. If you remember NBA
refs of that era, they had a lot of personality.
You're like Jake O'Donnell, Earl Strom, Daryl garrettson these types. Yeah,
they're not quite the robots you see these days. I
mean Scott Foster might be an exception to that rule,
but back then NBA refs they were a little more flamboyant,

(02:20:42):
and I certainly Jake o'donald will fit in that category.

Speaker 2 (02:20:45):
Well, Greg, your first time appearance on this radio show
is quite successful. The next time you have another feature
article that involves me, you're always walking to come on
the show and talk about it.

Speaker 16 (02:20:55):
So we'll talking about thirty years I guess.

Speaker 2 (02:20:56):
But you notice how Ross is so integral part this conversation.

Speaker 16 (02:21:02):
I was I was hoping to speak with Ross a
little more. But that's what.

Speaker 3 (02:21:07):
I was nine years old when this happened. I don't
really remember. Ask then, ask Greg anything, Just ask him
a random question right now?

Speaker 2 (02:21:12):
Okay, what's your biggest pet peeve about Matt on on air?

Speaker 3 (02:21:15):
That's not nice. I'm just kidding. How's everything with you?
I don't know what do you want? What's the chronicle?

Speaker 2 (02:21:20):
How's how's the chron It's it's.

Speaker 16 (02:21:24):
We're getting busy. You know, it's a busy time of year.
Rockets are uh you know, hit the stretcher on got
Astros spring training? Good time to be a Houston sports fan.

Speaker 3 (02:21:32):
All right, if you need a commis you do know
where to find me. We'll do see that.

Speaker 2 (02:21:37):
Wells dry, Greg, it's been enough. Still listen to him, Greg.
Great to hear from you and my friend. I'll talk
to you soon.

Speaker 7 (02:21:43):
Thanks, you got I got it?

Speaker 2 (02:21:44):
Greg graduate with us from the Houston Chronicle, one of
the lead sports editors, with a story about the thirty
anniversary of today. Thirty years ago today, Wow, Clyde Dretser
a Houston Rocket.

Speaker 3 (02:21:55):
Was it just straight up swap.

Speaker 2 (02:21:56):
What was the whole know is Tracy Murray and Clyde
fore and something.

Speaker 3 (02:22:01):
I don't know the exact trade. Okay, I'll find it.
It was thirty years ago. Damn getting old and you're
doing great, Matt. I am doing great.

Speaker 2 (02:22:09):
I know with you seen your house. You haven't come
by in a long time. Of course you're not walcome
to the house. Miss Thomas believes that, but that's a
different issue. What she upset about the one little Slammy
made many years ago when of you guys came and
had me come over for wrestling, and I said to
place you told me by the way, I was under
instructions from you to talk about how far out it was.

Speaker 3 (02:22:29):
I don't remember that at all. Yeah, Fantasy five is
up next.

Speaker 2 (02:22:32):
Hey, you know, for those that aren't familiar with this,
Fantasy five when he judges, if you're a fan of
Sarta Night Live for decades, not just the last three
or four years, which I haven't found to be very
hard to believe. If you're a fan of Saturday Night Live,
we need five judges now. Connor, I love you like
a younger son, but you're not voting because you don't

(02:22:55):
know I don't think he was alive with any ninety
percent of these characters, you have no ideas. You're not
getting a vote. I know at least sixty percent you
want to vote no because I don't know all of them.

Speaker 3 (02:23:05):
All right.

Speaker 2 (02:23:06):
We need people that have watched Sara Night Live for
a long time. If you have watched Sarday Night Live
for a long period of time, I want to help
us judge. It's a fantasy for five of best recurring
characters seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three, two, one two five seven ninety The
fantasy five is next.

Speaker 1 (02:23:23):
More Man Thomas Show with Ross Now Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (02:23:32):
So we decided that Connor McGovern is not going to
be one of the judges, but friend of the show,
part of the A team, one of my broadcast partners
on Rockets basketball. I think I've got figured out. I
think your percentage is better than in Clayton's.

Speaker 18 (02:23:47):
That is correct, You keep if it's nineteen to fifteen
of the thirty four wins, That's what I'm talking about,
eighteen sixteen.

Speaker 3 (02:23:55):
What do you got next week?

Speaker 18 (02:23:56):
What he's got Friday and Saturday's game. I'll be on
TV Saturday Day and then you're doing TV on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (02:24:02):
Wow.

Speaker 18 (02:24:02):
Finally, yes, where you've been all here on TV? They
have they have the employees to handle it. Most times
that I think they have a second team starting to
play games. Their first game is Saturday. First spring training
game on Space City home network is Saturday.

Speaker 3 (02:24:15):
So you're on.

Speaker 2 (02:24:15):
Space City next week three to six, and you're doing
Space City on the weekend.

Speaker 3 (02:24:18):
Man, you're all over the place.

Speaker 2 (02:24:19):
I got you, but I thought we'd bring them in
because this is somebody that would know multi decades of
Saturday Night Live.

Speaker 3 (02:24:25):
Uh huh, all right, here we go. Uh. We do
a snake system where one of us, say, either gets
the first pick or one of us gets picks two
and three. That is correct.

Speaker 2 (02:24:34):
I was the defending champion between the two of us,
and so I thought there were so many great options.
I gave Ross the first selection. By the way, if
you want to be a judge, Wax's judge number one.
We've got Roger and Lynn are judges two and three.
We need three more judges at seven one three, two,
one two five seven night. If you want to be
a judge, these are best recurring characters on Saturday Night

(02:24:56):
live seven one three, two, one two, five seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (02:24:59):
The floor is yours. Yes, Matt, I'm with you.

Speaker 2 (02:25:01):
I think there is a cluster of top picks to
be made, so I would have seated the number one
overall pick to you as well, but I went ahead
and went with my gut on this as an all
time classic.

Speaker 3 (02:25:13):
It was an all time actor. His name is Chris Farley,
and well one of the Signature A recurring characters it
was Matt Foley.

Speaker 15 (02:25:20):
Well, I'm here to tell you that you're probably gonna
find out as you go out there that you're not going.

Speaker 3 (02:25:27):
To amount the Jack squad.

Speaker 15 (02:25:35):
You're gonna end up eating a steady diet of government
cheese and living in a van down Neither River.

Speaker 3 (02:25:44):
One of my favorites all the time. It makes you
laugh the this is about the entire draft, but an
excellent number one overall selection. Thank you, Matt.

Speaker 2 (02:25:54):
No argument and look I looked at I listened. All
five years are really good, so I can't possibly it
is I get the next two picks. My favorite pound
for pound recurring sketch is Celebrity Jeopardy, And when you
think of one of the contestants that separates themselves and
Burt Reynolds is certainly very good, Tom Hanks being very good.

(02:26:18):
But there's really only one person, and that is Darryl
Hammond doing Sean Connery on Celebrity Jeopardy.

Speaker 20 (02:26:24):
Oh Brother, Sean Connery.

Speaker 7 (02:26:32):
Negative sixty nine dollars?

Speaker 3 (02:26:34):
Okay, that wasn't your score?

Speaker 7 (02:26:35):
Well?

Speaker 1 (02:26:36):
Sixty nine is how I scold with your mother last night.

Speaker 2 (02:26:43):
It's a great recurring character, all right, Next, even though
it's not a sketch of a character, and it's an
impression which we said we were gonna rule out, but
that's okay, go ahead, next. I love when they what
do they break? When they break the third curtain or
third fourth fourth wall? The fourth wall? When they break
the fourth wall, yes, in which Lord Michaels are long

(02:27:04):
time executive producer hates. But there is no funnier moment
when the ensemble cash joins this character when they break
the fourth wall.

Speaker 3 (02:27:13):
I speak of Debbie Downer, who love me some sticking eggs.

Speaker 14 (02:27:19):
Ever since they found mad cow disease in the US,
I'm not taking any chances they can live in your
body for years before it ravages your brain.

Speaker 2 (02:27:35):
And the bone comes to down dise or killer bees
Kenny against Debbie Down. Yeah, Rachel Dratch not overly funny,
Debbie Donner hysterical.

Speaker 3 (02:27:52):
Debbie Down is good. It was on my list. It's
further down, but it was on my list. Okay, good one.

Speaker 2 (02:27:58):
Okay, well it is my turn now and I was
next up, and I went with another classic that also
spawned two classic movies. Did appreciate this sketch that was
by two of the all time greats that would beat
Mike Myers and Dana Carvey doing Wayne's World.

Speaker 3 (02:28:15):
Party Harties Friday. It's ten thirty, It's time to party.
I'm your excellent host, Wayne Campbell with me as always
as Garth. Pretty on, Wayne, pretty on Garth. Okay, all right,
there you go Little Wayne's World. Loved Wayne's World the
movies better than like the weekly sketches, because I thought
the sketches were a little repetitive. The movies are very good.
By the way.

Speaker 2 (02:28:35):
When they did have Madonna and it was excellent. Madonna
was good, Aerosmith was on, it was very good. H
who else what's his name from mary Wood Children was
on there?

Speaker 3 (02:28:44):
Bundymitz. Yeah, well I can't remember his real name. Ed O'Neill,
ed O'Neill, look at you. That's why we bring you,
that's why they pay you the big bucks matter. Thank
you very much. Wayne's World one of my time all
time favorites.

Speaker 2 (02:28:55):
Next, let's keep it going on, and I'm gonna go
to the Chris Farley well again because he was part
of this, but I just called the sketch the the
recurring character would be Bill Swarsky's super fan, but also
of course our good friend Chris Farley being one of
those all right, Bob, Actually this one's really just speculations.
I just got to limit my pork in't think the

(02:29:15):
poor and a Grahams a.

Speaker 7 (02:29:16):
Day, right that stuff.

Speaker 21 (02:29:18):
Yeah, yeah, the doc says that I got a small.

Speaker 16 (02:29:21):
Piece of Polish sausage lodged in the lining of my.

Speaker 2 (02:29:24):
Arc Dub Bears, the Bears and Bill Schwarsky into Super
George WTT. It was actually Bill Swarze Yes, yeah, super
fans mm hm, so you go, yeah, so we'll let
you have both, Chris Farley, I got you, all right.

Speaker 3 (02:29:38):
Next two.

Speaker 2 (02:29:40):
In the nineteen eighties, there was very little that was
enjoyable about Saturday at Live, especially the early eighties, except
there was one breakout superstar on that show. I'm not
talking about Joe Piscobo, but I know you're thinking that
right off the top I was. His name was Edward
Murphy and he had two amazing characters.

Speaker 3 (02:29:56):
One I went and looked at the Google reference to it.

Speaker 2 (02:30:01):
It's a green blocky clamation character and cultural icon created
by Art and Ruth Klosky. Eddie Murphy made him a
real life person. We speak of Gumby.

Speaker 5 (02:30:15):
How the hell up?

Speaker 3 (02:30:15):
People not gonna know who I am. I'm Gumby.

Speaker 5 (02:30:17):
Dammit.

Speaker 3 (02:30:18):
Let me tell you something. I saved this damn show
from the gutta and it's.

Speaker 6 (02:30:22):
Thanks to me.

Speaker 3 (02:30:23):
This is the thanks that I get for saving the show.
Shame on you, Lord Michaels, Shame on you, NBC, Shame
on you. All right, coming, be gummy, just calm down. Come,
don't tell me to calm down. Trailer boy.

Speaker 2 (02:30:36):
Eddie Murphy saved Sarah Live with this character one Gumby.

Speaker 3 (02:30:41):
This is a little before my time, so he what's
a your word for?

Speaker 2 (02:30:44):
He also saved the show with this character, mister Robinson's neighborhood,
beautiful day in the neighborhood of beautiful day for a
neighbor could you be mad?

Speaker 3 (02:30:58):
Would you be mad, I'm gonna fall bit, but it's
now I'm all right.

Speaker 17 (02:31:06):
My neighbors was all black, but now they bite.

Speaker 19 (02:31:10):
Jam Cashing Place turned into a bank, elevated works and
the staff they don't stay.

Speaker 3 (02:31:16):
The white people came and changed everything.

Speaker 7 (02:31:19):
But I am still your neighbor.

Speaker 2 (02:31:24):
Now, this one way better than Gumby. Those are those
are hilarious sketches and of course talking about gentrification and
other things going on.

Speaker 3 (02:31:34):
In this world. Great pick.

Speaker 2 (02:31:37):
And when Eddie Robinson or Ed Robinson, when Eddie Murphy
came back the host couple a couple of years ago,
because first I had been back in like thirty years,
he went and recreated mister Robinson's because he had beef
with Lorne Michael. That was that clip was from that show.
Bill was from the The The Revival, aren't you? Let's
keep it moving with another two of my favorites. It's

(02:31:57):
also involves Dana Carvey and Kevin Nelan and they always
had great sketches. I'm going with the Hans and Franz.
Now can I get two characters with this one?

Speaker 15 (02:32:08):
Too?

Speaker 7 (02:32:08):
Sure?

Speaker 3 (02:32:09):
Hans, you can't have Hans without Franz.

Speaker 7 (02:32:11):
Matt.

Speaker 1 (02:32:12):
Once again, I'm hard, I'm Franz and.

Speaker 3 (02:32:14):
We the bop you here we go. Oh, one of
my favorite sketches. Always laugh like it. I like when
they had Arnold Schwarzenegger on there it's good stuff. Oh,
let's keep it moving, mat because well we got to
get to break like three minutes ago, and we're gonna
keep it moving.

Speaker 2 (02:32:33):
With my final pick, which apparently you wanted.

Speaker 3 (02:32:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:32:38):
Also a lot of catchphrases in this one. Always important
with a recurring character. Did bring this one back in
the revival as well. I'm speaking of church lady.

Speaker 7 (02:32:46):
Well, is that fast?

Speaker 3 (02:32:48):
Shall we kept this?

Speaker 2 (02:32:51):
Kept that one short week last for me, I had
to put a Will Ferrell character in Now cow Bell
would not have been counted because it was only a
one time sketch, but he had a lot of great characters. Uh.
He and Anna Gosteer Uh played a pair of junior
high choral teachers.

Speaker 3 (02:33:10):
They were known as lovingly the Culps.

Speaker 22 (02:33:13):
I Marty Colp and I Bobby Mocan Culp. Promise to
honor you and for Richard, for poor and in health
tillill death do you spunk?

Speaker 9 (02:33:32):
One?

Speaker 3 (02:33:32):
Two, three, four Hot Mike Hot, Mike is on? Is
It's on? Hot Mike, Hot Mike. It's a bad one.
It's a bad picks. Fine, we will make one with
unfrozen kve Man lawyer over that. Let me give you

(02:33:54):
a couple of ones.

Speaker 2 (02:33:56):
Phelps maybe uh continental with uh uh what's his name?
My word tunes is the driving cat. Uh colps is
about a forty fifth round pick. Nah, it's not that
bad forty fifth Uh?

Speaker 3 (02:34:08):
What else? A severe head wound man was also one
of my head mood airy. It's a little one note,
but it's funny. It's funny. All right, we make the decision. Yes,
next when we come back, we come back. Look at this.

Speaker 2 (02:34:19):
We need we need uh Wex's like I only even
scheduled for one segment here.

Speaker 8 (02:34:23):
I can't.

Speaker 3 (02:34:23):
He's like, here's gonna be show. He's got a prepping
like a muddle. He's got to put Adam plant on
his back for four hours. Can you imagine that? Right?

Speaker 2 (02:34:28):
Seven one three two one two five seven if you
want to judge seven one three two one two five seven.

Speaker 1 (02:34:33):
Inning lunchtimers, lunchtimes, It's a Matt Thomas show with Ross
on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (02:34:48):
Seven, and we have a helly are not coming up
in a few minutes, Wex is here. He's gotta get
ready for his show, so Wex, my friend, you had
a chance to look at the list, listen to the
sound bites roster me who wins the Fantasy Five?

Speaker 18 (02:35:00):
So I was compiling a list as you guys were going,
and if you peg one that I had on there,
I'm like, Okay, these guys got it right.

Speaker 3 (02:35:06):
These guys are doing well.

Speaker 18 (02:35:08):
Hans and Franz and the Church Lady were on my list,
and they were both selected by the same person, So
that would suggest where I would be leaning with my pick.
But it's really because of Matt Foley and Wayne and
Garth that Ross.

Speaker 3 (02:35:22):
Is the winner.

Speaker 18 (02:35:23):
And I'm only one judge, a small voice in this
parade of fun you guys have. So I'm going with
Matt Foley, Way Campbell, and Ross v Rall And I
agree with Ross. The Coulps did not help the cause,
nor did Gumby.

Speaker 2 (02:35:38):
I love the Culps because I loved they just sang
pop songs in a choral voice. That's fine, mister Robinson
almost brought you all the way back.

Speaker 3 (02:35:48):
Very so good.

Speaker 2 (02:35:48):
All right, lenn and Spring on the Fantasy Five, Lynn
who wins roster.

Speaker 3 (02:35:53):
Me Ross, all right, appreciate it. Go to hell?

Speaker 8 (02:35:57):
Lynn?

Speaker 3 (02:35:58):
All right? We are you doing best of seven? What
do we do after?

Speaker 2 (02:36:01):
No, We're going to do it until I get one
vote because I'm not going to win. There's no picks, Matt,
There's no chance I'm gonna even one Roger on seven
ninety Ross who wins a Roger who wins a Fantasy five?

Speaker 3 (02:36:12):
Me or Ross?

Speaker 21 (02:36:14):
I'm gonna go with you back because you have the
show here Todi a pix with the celebrity Jacky has
a bunch of everything on it. It's always never it's
never not good, it's always hilarious. So yeah, celebrity Jeffrey.

Speaker 3 (02:36:28):
On the show. So thank you very much. I got
one vote. Thank you.

Speaker 2 (02:36:31):
I was actually gonna go Burt Reynolds because when he
called himself third Ferguson, that's just hysterical, great stuff.

Speaker 3 (02:36:39):
But Connery, what are some of the categories?

Speaker 2 (02:36:43):
Who actually help me out with some of the categories
that he would get wrong?

Speaker 3 (02:36:46):
Uh? You really want me to just do one?

Speaker 2 (02:36:52):
I believe the pen is Mightier.

Speaker 3 (02:36:58):
Therapists something there? What about what about the swords? Swords?
Come on? All right? Two to one?

Speaker 2 (02:37:05):
You lead Greg On seven ninety Greg who wins the
Fantasy five Roster?

Speaker 6 (02:37:10):
Me?

Speaker 7 (02:37:11):
Okay, uh, look, I gotta go. I gotta go with you, Matt.
And the reason why is in the eighties, that was
the high school year and like you said, Eddie Murphy, Eddie.

Speaker 3 (02:37:21):
Murphy, save that show.

Speaker 21 (02:37:23):
So so hey, mister Robinson's neighborhood was classic.

Speaker 2 (02:37:27):
Yeah, you know what, Thank you very much. It's too
two now. I will say this. The coulps hurt me,
but I think mister Robins should ruin your whole. Listen,
let me take you from getting anything. Let me tell
you this terrible Wex loves draft talk. If you if
you have a great third round pick, you makes youre
forget about the fourth round pick, right.

Speaker 3 (02:37:42):
You gotta have a starting five Matt.

Speaker 2 (02:37:44):
He found a star in the fourth round, an absolute star.
So it's two two. We're going best of seven here
to win. You're gonna win, Danny and Sugarland. Danny who
wins the Fantasy five Ross or me?

Speaker 5 (02:37:57):
Matt?

Speaker 6 (02:37:57):
You went off the rills with w Downer and you
crash from firm the Colts Ross for the wind.

Speaker 2 (02:38:01):
Okay, you know what I mean By the way, suck
it Danny, Debbie Downers, have a great weekend, Danny, Danny,
I hope you don't get in a car wreck. Uh,
let's go to Geo in a task to see a
geo on seven. Out of Geo, who wins the fantasy five?
Ross or men?

Speaker 5 (02:38:16):
Yours?

Speaker 7 (02:38:17):
Ross Williams, Thank you, j G.

Speaker 3 (02:38:21):
I hope your girlfriend doesn't cheat on you tonight. That's
it for two. You know what to be brutally honest.
As soon as you drafted, I knew you were gonna win. Yeah,
I'm happy that I got twos. I'm gonna lose the check.
I was the Nate Williams last night. It was back
in his thrown. I was Nate Williams last night. I

(02:38:42):
was just happy to get there and contribute.

Speaker 7 (02:38:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (02:38:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:38:44):
The Colts is about a Nate Williams pick.

Speaker 18 (02:38:45):
Probably also worth a hat tip for both of you
for some of the ones you did not suggest, though
they were popular, they were just unfunny. Mary Catherine Gallagher
noteter another, Mike Myers not funny.

Speaker 3 (02:38:57):
Cheerleaders not funny. Yeah you did.

Speaker 2 (02:38:59):
You guys did a good leaving them out, though I
was trying to find what's the best, what's the best
wilf Farrell. Is it Harry Carey. It would be Harry
Carey or him just him doing George w or when
he and Rachel Dratch were in the hard time, when
they're in the hot tub. Actually good, I should have
taken that, that's actually I probably would have done a

(02:39:20):
little bit better.

Speaker 3 (02:39:23):
All right, Wax was on a big show today.

Speaker 18 (02:39:25):
We'll hear more from Lance mcculler's junior. You guys had
a visit with Chris Gordy. We'll check in with him also,
and uh, we got everybody ready for the weekend. And
now that there's been an Alex Bregman sighting at Red
Sox camp, now we can really move on.

Speaker 3 (02:39:39):
Oh, we moved on yesterday, actually moved on two days ago.
Did you hear, Gordy, did you hear a Ross do
the Rockets rap slash astro Bregman talk in the middle
of the night.

Speaker 18 (02:39:48):
I think the only thing I heard from Ross was
when somebody caught mid bit the bye to fromber Valdez,
which had somebody worried that he was already gone.

Speaker 3 (02:39:59):
Well, we actually prefaced it. We did preface that.

Speaker 2 (02:40:04):
But we're right, all right, Helly airon OWT what is
the category today? Is it Valentine's Day stuff? It's all
things involving the Clyde Drexer trade.

Speaker 3 (02:40:13):
Ain't that a blip?

Speaker 7 (02:40:15):
All right?

Speaker 2 (02:40:15):
That's Clyd Drexler and friends because I kind of know
or are they friends?

Speaker 3 (02:40:19):
Oh? Okay, let's talk about Big City Wings right now.

Speaker 2 (02:40:22):
Delicious wings, amazing sandwiches, outstanding salads, the appetizers and the
desserts are delectable at any of the thirteen Big City
Wing locations. They've got Valentine's chocolate covered strawberries for dessert tonight.
Stop on by there. Take your girl out for a
little dinner tonight. If you're gonna go to a show movie,
maybe so go see some comedy, go listen to some

(02:40:43):
live music, and looking for some late night eats Tonight
at Big City Wings is half priced appetizers. They have
specials every single day and they're the appetizers tonight or
half price after nine pm. But most importantly get out
in Troy. The amazing fresh food, the great wide variety
of menu items, and the daily specials all at Big
City Wings and Big Citywings dot Com thirteen locations.

Speaker 3 (02:41:03):
Stop buy and by it today.

Speaker 2 (02:41:04):
Tell them your friend Matt from seven ninety cent, You two,
the home of Houston's wing joint, Big City Wings.

Speaker 1 (02:41:11):
Back to Matt, Thomas and Ross via Real Fine Fine
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (02:41:16):
We've also forgotten a bunch of different snls. I was
just telling the boys, because IX's still in here getting ready,
that the show, I mean, for fifty years has provided
a tremendous amount of comedy, from the impersonations to the skits.
Now you're asking a group of people to be insanely
funny for ninety minutes, while there there's two musical acts

(02:41:39):
for eighty minutes, commercials, monologues, come on, give us five
good sketches a week is kind of a lot, though,
I mean they're on one of the oy on about
twenty five times a year, give or take.

Speaker 3 (02:41:50):
You have no idea somewhere that I mean, I can, yeah,
we can find that. One thing is that it's never
gonna go away.

Speaker 2 (02:41:57):
I know that people have always thought about it, but
it's still in a television show.

Speaker 3 (02:42:01):
I don't know Lauren Michael's getting up there.

Speaker 7 (02:42:04):
Now?

Speaker 3 (02:42:05):
Do you know who?

Speaker 19 (02:42:05):
When?

Speaker 2 (02:42:05):
When Lauren original Lefkin who replaced him? I don't recall
Dick Eversoll who was then went on to go for
work for NBC Sports and that show, The Dick Eversol Years,
could be its own documentary about how bad it was.
I mean, just one unfunny character after the other. Last
year was twenty one episodes. Yeah, they looks like they've
been about twenty twenty one episodes the last few years,

(02:42:27):
so they've they've dropped it a little bit.

Speaker 3 (02:42:30):
I'll tell you what.

Speaker 2 (02:42:30):
The pound for pound weekly funny thing they have on
weekend updates really funny to me.
