Speaker 1 (00:01):
Is The Matt Thomas Show with Ross ten on one.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
In Age Town. Good morning, and welcome to a Thursday
edition to the Matt Thomas Show with Ross Ross Field Raale.
To my right, Jonathan Allen is our producer in the
box studio. That's forty nine degrees and I'm Matt. Nice
to have all of rousses today. Oh it's really cold
in there. I feel terrible. I'm surprised we don't have
more pneumonia cases out of our studios in there, but

(00:31):
that's seriousues. And of course they've got great affordable healthcare,
so we're gonna exactly we take care of them. We
do only the best benefits of the best. Got a
lot of little things I want to get to today,
A lot of little things, okay, and I'm not going
to go on any particular order, because I I do
have one thing I want to get to at the
very beginning.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
The US News and World Report rankings of colleges are out.
Oh oh, I am stunned at how bad the Big
twelve is when it comes to school you are, especially
with a couple of them being private and a couple
of them being about ninety thousand dollars a year, give
or take, Taylor should be good. You will be surprised.

(01:12):
We know you of H's were on the up check
and not where it used to be. We're on the
up tick tick yeah, getting up there. But I'll save
it for that. I'm just gonna say, you're going to
be stunned if you've not seen it yet. I'm surprised
you're bringing this up. Well, I mean, it is what
it is. I mean, you h must be doing better
than they were. Weren't they in like one hundred and
twenty five or something? And you'll find out letter today
on the radio program. I will say this, The very

(01:35):
first thing I checked was University of Rhode Island. Oh okay,
and I was very relieved. We are number thirty four
week because of course I'm gonna be rooting hard for
the Rams in the next handful of years. We're number
thirty four in the country. That's great, and the number
one public school in New England. Hmmm. Oh, it's a
small area, but that's great. I don't know Massachusetts, Delaware,

(01:55):
what else is there? Rhode Island, there's named the four
small estates. New hamp Sure, don't sleep on uh Massachusetts.
I want to go to schools up there, number thirty
four in the Let me tell you if I if
you had kids and I said, I'm sending you the
thirty fourth best public school in the country, be like,
I'm really nice. That's good, But I hope they're cutting
the check. Well they are in some respects, and I

(02:17):
am maybe a different store. But that's another here nor there.
All right, we got that to get too. We have
some not necessarily breaking news, but pending breaking news about
the NC Double A basketball tournament. We need to get
to today. Okay, when I say n C Double A,
what does it usually revolve around infractions? Well, that's not

(02:38):
terrible thought expansion or or like additional opportunities for revenue.
They figured out a way to make that happen. We'll
be discussing on the radio show today. We have the
Major League Baseball playoffs. We have three game threes today.
Huge and I'll tell you what. I spent a lot

(02:58):
of time watching them. Again, I didn't. I didn't get
into the deep dive. I know what going on in
situations and decisions. But it's Wednesday night. Nothing else going
on else. You're gonna watch Champions League was done. That's
what I was thinking. I was like, I was putting
some Champions League. Oh, I couldn't find anything. A big
win for Paris Germain over Barcelona, that was huge, it
was I did a post game show on that. Next

(03:20):
you did on my YouTube channel. Okay, wow, Well what
do you think about Lemnium all second half? I thought
the officiating was very sketchy. Oh, actually that's true. See
I told you if you watch every sport, that's right,
it's always winning. Dad to say the officiating is sketchy
and you can win. Nobody likes refs in any team,
and that's soccer included. That's rights. A questionable penalty given

(03:41):
in the Manchester City game, yeah, uh, the injury poort
for the Baltimore Ravens. Holy smokes, it's like half their
rosters are basically like they're listening to the depth chart.
I mean, and you and I have joshed about this
for I don't know how many years, but the term
must win I would think Rossi, even though you are
not literally my swing guy. Hey, you know what you

(04:02):
were right about the must win game and against the Rangers.
If they'd have won that then made the playoffs, I
point taking him it's absolutely. I mean, that's why they
call me the Astros insider. But you really weren't right.
But but it we're I think if we use must
wins all the time, which is fine, I think it's
part of the reason why you get so cranky about

(04:22):
it because everybody uses it. Yeah, but if you're because
it's October beginning of October. But if you're going to Baltimore,
yes and no Lamar Jackson, yes, and like five defensive
starters aren't playing, you have to win that game. It's
of the utmost importance. You're it's back to two and
a half the line. M h, it's a field goal,

(04:43):
it's a toss up, it's it's a fifty to fifty game, man.
But I don't even care about Las Vegas in this
particular case. This is for you have to win a
game you're not supposed to win to get back in
the chase of the division because you've got two teams
that are two games in front of you, and one
of them holds a slight tie break over because they
beat you. Huh. And again, I know where maybe too
early thinking about division races, but I don't anticipate two

(05:03):
teams coming out of this divisions as a playoff team, right,
so you have to go. You gotta go grab one
when you're not supposed to win and the gods are
telling you you got to go to Baltimore win this game.
You can't let Cooper rush Beeachy, you just can't. Is
a ripe opportunity that you did not have before all
of the injuries. It would be nice to seize this

(05:24):
opportunity for sure. Would it be too hot topic if
I said that they don't beat the Ravens, they're not
going to the playoffs. I think that's fair. That'd be
four losses. Now with it within an AFC, you probably
at least we ran through the schedule. We had them
basically at seven to eight wins, or do we have
them at six to seven? We had one plus six

(05:44):
plus seventy minimum nine maybe ten to get in the playoffs.
You're probably going to need well since Andy may be
in a free fall because of the Joe Burrow injury. Yes,
we can check them off the list. But Jacksonville's a surprise,
Indianapolis a surprise that the Chargers are pretty good. They
made it as ninety eight last year. The Chargers right
and was it ninety eighteen or was everybody ten? So
that was a huge tie up, the tiebreaker. I'm trying

(06:06):
to figure it out. I'm going back to what did
anybody Was anybody thinking Pittsburgh? I don't think so. Yeah,
the you needed ten wins last year to make the
playoffs in the AFC. Maybe the Patriots sneak in. You
never know. So it's a it's a pretty close to
a must win for playoff hopes. Close. I'll never change you,
am I. I have to draw a line of sand.

(06:29):
There's too much gray area, folks. And I understand the
entire world is gray and we all try to make
it black and white. Yeah, okay, I had to think
about that for a second.

Speaker 4 (06:43):
But that.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Except for short a certain amount of things. There's a
short list of things that we have to draw a
line in the sand, Matt. Okay, And I'm on an
island by myself. I understand this. Okay, I'm going to
give you speaking of an island by myself, I'm about
to go on the island by myself from this, Okay,
I got you know how I feel about Texas Tech.

(07:05):
It's my second favorite school in the state. What about
Texas A and M third M. But I mean they're close.
I mean, okay, it could be too A two B.
I mean both those schools have given my kids, my
boys outstanding education. Both had terrific experiences. You know, sometimes
you go to college, you have bad experiences. My boys
love their experiences, and there's two schools that's great. And

(07:27):
I love both those schools too. I mean, I just do.
They've gotten plenty of my money and so I can
say that, I can say we in certain respect. And
so this game with Houston, the Twitter streets ROSSI are.
I haven't seen it as spicy like this for a

(07:47):
long period of time. And I don't know if it's
because all the Texas Tech is showing up on my
four you tab this week or just Texas Tech fans
coming out after being a hibernation for as long as
they've been. But they're really good for fotball team. They
went to Utah and smacked them around. They didn't have
a they had to use two different quarterbacks this year
their defense. So the first time I think since puberty

(08:10):
for me has been decently since ever, I mean, I
can't remember it saying the words as a sportscaster, Texas
Tech and great defense. Every game they had had fifty
five to fifty two written all over. Well, that's how
you won. I mean, yeah, you know that's I mean
b J. Simmons listening to the show occasionally, he's he
was right a part of that, And yes, if Kingsbury
was doing that and Graham Harrold, I mean, and go

(08:30):
through all of them they I mean, you know, obviously
there's one in Kansas that it's pretty good too. You
if you went to Texas Tech, you're gonna score a
bunch of points, You're gonna you're gonna have a huge
offensive numbers, and then you're gonna lose games forty eight
forty five playing nine to thirty games at Arizona, you
know what I mean. It's just just what is. But
they're as good as they have been in a long
period of time. It is not coincidental. It is the

(08:53):
fact that they are paying players crazy amounts of money
and it's paying off. In fact.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
Uh uh.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
The head coach, I'm Jona Blanke. I was just listening
to him yesterday. As a matter of fact. McGuire, it's
Joey mcquiter. He's a fine coach, is working in Lubbock.
I don't think I had a huge Irish crown and
Lubock there's not no, I don't think so. If immigrants
made it to the middle of nowhere or Texas in
the west, Texas fly out of the country. Joseph McGuire

(09:25):
so this, oh, I don't know. He was asked questions
about contracts in his press conference, which is it literally
sounded like I was listening to it to a professional
team's press conference. He's like, yeah, we got four or
five guys, we got to one a half million dollar
deals and we're looking to extend a few more. I
was like, my god, has college sports change? Yes, you can.

(09:46):
You can openly tell them ask questions to a coach
about how much you're going to pay players and if
you're offering new multi year deals. But just the landscape
of college sports. But back to my central point, Texas
tech fan. I mean, they are breathing fire right now.
They're getting chirpy. They're attacking everything you of H. There
are U of H Texas Tech Twitter fights all over

(10:09):
the place. Tech the Texas Tech Bureaus is pointing the
finger at you of H people. Yeah, I mean that
comes to zero surprise, and here's the unpopular. Take you
ready for this? I don't mind it. Yeah, why is
that unpopular? As long as everybody's nobody's getting personal, it's well.
I mean, let me ask you this. If nobody's dosing anybody, hey,

(10:32):
u've ah police department, there's gonna be fights this weekend.
I guarantee there's gonna be a brawl at the TDUCU Stateium.
I don't want it to be, but you're guaranteeing a guaranteeing.
I guarantee you Monday morning, we're going to be looking
at people throwing hands. Why can't you'll behave yourselves? Come on, man,
But it happens everywhere. But it's it's two mid college
programs who haven't done squat ever come talking about in

(10:55):
college athletics and alcohol. I'm just saying that we haven't
had a fight in a long time because, frankly, it's
hard to fight with Tulsa. Yeah, it's hard to fight
with Tulane or East Carolina. And I know you don't
want to fight when army comes into town. We lose
that fight. I don't know I want to part of it.
No chance either, Yeah, no, no, none of the Military
County getting dislocated Ankle, y'all can win. I don't mind

(11:18):
the smack. If you're insulting someone's looks or family, or
origin or ethnicity, that's off the table. But just go
to old fashioned. You suck Houston and you don't fill
your building up versus Tech to tech. You have raider
rash and you're out in the middle of nowhere and you
have to pay your athletes because nobody wants to come there. Good,

(11:39):
let's go Russie. How many years have I been dreaming
of a relevant six o'clock game with two teams that
hate each other, even when the Cougars were playing for
American Conference championships. We're playing Tempo and Navy. We can't
hate them. Well, let's not act like this is Ali Fraser.
Y'all are ten and a half point dogs. Well again,
I'm not let Vegas decide these I'm just saying I'm

(12:02):
here for it. Okay, sure, sure, I mean I haven't
seen any of it. I'm not insulting either group because
I want as many TEXTA Tech listeners as I do
Houston listeners. I like both schools. I want the Cougars
to win. But after that text Tech. You want to
run the table and take one loss, I'm all for you. Congratulates,
let's go it a matter of fac I wouldn't mind
seeing the Big twelve championship game go Koog's, Yeah, and

(12:24):
go Red Raiders after this week. I don't want them
to go. It'd be funny if they spend all that
money and loss. Don't you think we've talked about that before.
There are a lot of schools in this country that
are paying crazy amounts of money. They're gonna be highly
disappointed being on the outset looking in Texas. Spends a
lot of money and loses. So why can't I roof
for everybody else to do it? I mean mentioning the
money at A and M is spent over the years.

(12:45):
Who has the worst have been the worst money pit
of a program in the last ten years, it's got
to be A and M. Like most amounteds. Well, between
that and paying for Jimbo, for sure, I don't think
there's any any that in Yeah, seven one three, two
one two five, seven ninety. So you Cougars are y'all
getting upset? Y'all mind? I don't mind it. I live

(13:05):
for this again. We don't fight, We don't smack talk
with Memphis. There's nothing interesting about going after since any
Bearcat fan, I'm ready. I want. This is why I
wanted the Big twelve. I want Texa Tech v. Houston.
We want I want pure hatred. But leave it on,
leave it on the football field. Just don't get it personal.
And again, if you're gonna throw hands at TDUC Stadium,

(13:26):
if you've got friends with you, have the videotape it
and send it to me seven one three two one
two five seven dotie so under the category of today's
edition of sometimes lessons More. I saw this before the
start of the show and thought, well, I'll just pass

(13:49):
on it. And then Ross says, hey, did you see
what the astros just tweeted out? And I'm like, yes,
I did. And what they tweeted out was Hampy Birthday
to Lance mccultors junior. Nice message, and I almost twittered
it back saying don't look at the replies. I looked
at them, all right, would you like that? I mean,

(14:10):
first of all, this is what I mean, this is
what social media is in twenty twenty five. People are
gonna get their jokes off and be mean and try
to collect likes with it clans. Mccollors Junior has been
one of the hearts and souls of this organization during
its huge Renaissance World Series Champion twenty four straight curve balls. Yes,
he's had a lot of injuries, but he's battles his

(14:32):
ass off to get back out there and try to
provide anything he can for this organization. He could have
required retired like at least twice and nobody would have
said a word. He's out there trying to do what
he can for this Astros organization and you people just
want to crush him on Twitter, and they did. Let's
see replies. His birthday gift should be full time position

(14:55):
in the front office. Oh that's rude, Good luck. I
else towear LMJ. Happy birthday. That's rude again. What the
rule should be in your life? Would you say this
to his face? Well, then that's that would eliminate about
eighty five percent of tweets. Hopefully the last time this
is tweeted for him as a member of the team.

(15:16):
M Oh, here's a nice one, Robert. You know what,
tip of the cat to Robert. I'm giving him a
life just general Robert. Robert catone one of my favorite astros.
Happy birthday, Lands it's nice or you know what again?
This is how I kind of lived my life for
the most part, and I'm not perfect, trust me. But
if you don't like something, you just scroll. Oh you

(15:36):
can keep scrolling. Yeah, that's what I did, Joseph said,
just ruined my morning.

Speaker 4 (15:42):
Rude.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
So a man's birth and an opportunity to spend time
with his family and friends is ruined because this one's funny?
Cool now no now announced cintron has gone. Oh god,
speaking of haartchers, did you see the Angels the way
they set up the Ron Washington goodbye tweet? No, you

(16:08):
go the Angel's Twitter cat. There's no white chalk on
there is there? Oh I'm just asking. Oh my, he
got you know again. I had been unfairly criticized for
being mean. You this week have been way meaner than
I could ever imagine. Ron Washington had a cocaine incident. Okay,

(16:32):
so that means I mean he has one now and
then So you were saying that the Angels did something
they shouldn't have done with the Twitter account. So I
wasn't ask you to guess. Okay, well I was trying
to guess. No, did they put a chalk line on
there or something? I just figured you said. You said
that they were doing something that they shouldn't have done. Sometimes,

(16:54):
Why wouldn't I guess that? Because no one else did?
Else likes a little bug of sugar. I don't care.
All right, let me answer my own question. They don't
care about that. And they have two photos of him
in stances in his uniform, and he's basically standing on
a pillow of clouds. Oh, like he died. Yes, did

(17:19):
they put an angel halo on his head? I don't
never see that. That would be pretty funny if it. Okay,
as soon as you see that, the very first thing
you think of is he's dead. Yeah, they put him
in the clouds with an angels I mean the angel
halo logo. Well that's yeah, that's half of it. Unfortunately

(17:39):
the wrong team. Maybe he was a devil. He'd be
really in bad shape. I like his first comment. The
Angels have announced that Ron Washington seventy three passed his
role of manager onto someone else in his sleep last night.
Not nearly as as your comment. Save it for hey,
remember that tomorrow. Johnathan eleventh thirty when somebody owes people

(18:01):
some apologies. Watch apology. First of all, like I said,
I don't judge the man if he likes to. Okay,
you're gonna tell me how many managers and players over
the years in Major League Baseball like a little bog
of sugar whatever. But the point being to say is
that if he's if he's been long over, it doesn't
mean you to assume he's still doing it. I don't
know that he's been cleaned for a long time. Apparently.

(18:21):
How do I know that? I don't know, but I'm
assuming that again, if he's not, I'm not judging him.
I mean if you have if you have a cocaine,
if you using cocaine, you have a problem. So I mean,
you know that's somebody's Maybe he's a recreational user and
keeps it under control. Functional functional cocaine user. Yeah, what
do you mean? Have you been to Wall Street? If
any of you are functional cocaine users? Let us know?

(18:42):
Seven one no, don't call yeah, actually seven one three
seven ninety William you don't know? Yeah, maybe who knows?
All right? So, yeah, we're we're having some problems with
social media departments. I mean because I literally thought Ron died.
You saw it and you really did, Like everybody else
is saying the same thing in the comments. Yeah, because

(19:03):
it's like the fate. It's like the It's a picture
of him looking into the camera and another picture of
him smiling, and then it's in the clouds. But why
clouds bad? That's what I want to know. Why would
you put clouds in there? This is like I'm on
a base path. Yeah, this looks like he's passed. You
could literally print this out at his funeral and nobody
would say a word. It looks like a funeral photo.

(19:24):
Just so odd. But that's another Okay, all right, So,
uh do you put that on your report? When you're
the social media like they want to know that you
have to report your likes impressions, Like, hey guys, I
got a bunch of likes this like it's got a
lot of impressions. It's got uh yeah, it's got five
million views. So you put that on your monthly recap PowerPoint.

(19:46):
Hey guys, I got five million views on this tweet?

Speaker 5 (19:48):
Oh really?

Speaker 2 (19:48):
How come?

Speaker 4 (19:49):
Why not?

Speaker 2 (19:50):
Well? People thought that I killed the manager. It's a
good and bad. But don't you think that most teams
have more than one person in the social media probably,
So if I created that tweet, no do I go
to you and say, how does this look? You're like, true,
it looks like he's dead.

Speaker 4 (20:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
I don't know who has the the final say or
autonomy or whoever. The main social media person is. Astros
have like three or four people they do. That's what
I'm saying. There's had to be more than one person
said Hey, it looks looks cool, let's put them in clouds. Generally,
the teams rotate really quickly. Well, first of all, it's
a low paying job.

Speaker 1 (20:29):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
And and I tell you this difficult job. Well, it's
not difficult, you're you're it's only difficult when you when
you screw up. They got well, exactly, they got in
hot water when they put the A's they said tens
of runs in front of tens of fans or whatever.
They said, yeah, yeah, that was a big fires. All
the A's fans got hurt. This fan base was hurting.
Why would you say there's only ten fans because there

(20:51):
was only ten fans in the stands. Sorry, A's ridiculous.
So soft we got a PA announce that I got
in trouble too. Do you hear about that? Would you do?

Speaker 6 (21:00):
Do?

Speaker 7 (21:00):
Not me?

Speaker 2 (21:01):
Okay, I am pristine, I'm I've I've never been admonishor
any Did you ever get any any kind of hot
water for anything ever that you said? Uh? Well, I'll
say this. I don't know if the NBA was overly
pleased with my Western Conference Game seven introductions? Oh really?
But did you hear anything from Nobody heard anything? Okay,
nobody heard anything. No, what I will tell you, I'll

(21:23):
tell you when you come back. Because what the guy said,
they're putting Rod Washington to pit you stop it so bad,
get off that account. But but it's it was a
natural it was a natural presumption. Just why exactly? I mean,
I'm sorry. It's a black and white photo and it
says twenty four to twenty five, so it's still him

(21:45):
his managerial of a career of the Angels. That's pretty funny,
all right, So I will briefly, I don't think I
don't even think there's audio of this, but the prob
because it's insensitive, but is a PA announcing you can
get into trouble and I'll explain what that happened. Uh boway,
are y'all watching the playoffs. We do it. We did
have three interesting games yesterday. I watched a fair amount
of it. Yes, yeah, So we'll get a little bit

(22:06):
of that and we'll go over that Texans injury report.
It's not so bad on the Texans side, but on
the Baltimore side, it's a hot mess. That's a shame. Yeah,
it's a shame because it's a must win game Sunday.
It'd be one you'd like to It's a crucial game Sunday.
I think it's a it's a seize the opportunity Sunday.

(22:26):
That that's a little wordy bell accepted. Okay, seven one three,
two one two fives of an nutty You know what?
We need a bump music change, we just do. Look,
I'm not the biggest imagined dragon song. This song's kind

(22:47):
of a jam though. Good all right, real quick, Uh,
just be careful what you say in life. Florida A
and M has a being. You know when they do
band halftime, they have the announcers that are just the
band pa guys, Uh huh, this guy's been doing it
for fifty years. Okay, Florida A and M University, what happened?

(23:10):
They are playing Alabama State. Is that a big rivalry?
It feels like it could be kind of Florida. A
and M was fined ten thousand dollars over inappropriate comments
made by an announcer during the Rattler's football game against
Alabama State. The comments were directed at Alabama State's Honeybees

(23:30):
dance group. Uh oh oh, I saw this. Well they
have okay, so they have a team. Okay, you know,
I'm gonna let you read this. First of all, what
is he talking about Alabama State for? It is what
I don't know. But here's what he said. And again,
I'm just gonna say it, and then we're not going

(23:51):
to get into any more than that. He said that
the honey Bees represent the new face of Ozambic and
that you just come on, I mean, come on. So
the dance team is specifically a plus sized dance team
that I saw it characterizes the plus sized dance team.
So I don't know, I think I saw them again.
That was That's awful. That's an awful generic way to

(24:13):
describe an entire group of people exactly. So I don't
know if they have a regular dance team, and then ay,
I would have I don't even speak to this. I
would assume you don't have a weight two different teams
based on weight, I would assume not.

Speaker 8 (24:27):
Maybe an inclusive at least an inclusive dance team. That's
crazy to say, though.

Speaker 2 (24:33):
Bollard issued in a public apology stating that his comments
were intended as quote lighthearted banter. I don't know. Weight
usually with women is never lighthearted. He recognizes that it
was hurtful and disrespectful. So Florida and m has spent
fine ten thousand dollars and he has been suspended for
two games. So yeah, the Alabama State Honeybees bring positive

(24:56):
plus sized attitude to HBCU dance team. Oh so they
are plus size team there specifically, Yes, they are a
plus sized dance team that promotes body positivity, confidence and
self love. He threw hat can I tell you as

(25:16):
a wife, as a husband of a woman and a
daughter in my family, and this goes for I don't
know anybody, We as men can kind of give each
other grief about weight. That's just not gonna be talked
about with women under any circumstance. Zero. It will never
end well. Like you know, Jonathan, you'll know this when
you if you eventually marry the girl or whoever, whatever

(25:38):
you do in your life. Uh huh does this make
me look fat? The answers always know, always, one hundred
percent of the antime, it's no. It's never well, don't
even you don't even delay your response by the time
she says does this make you? Always say no. It's
a tricky scenario. You have to put it on yourself. Jonathan,
say let's get healthier together. I wouldn't. I'm just telling

(26:03):
you I don't. I think Ross is giving you bad advice.
I'm telling you the couse you mean by yourself. No,
you just talk about your diet. We have to prove
our diets together. Just trust you. Don't say it when
she's asking if you look fat, you're bringing up some

(26:24):
other time. Now I'll say this. If you're lean mm
hmm and she needs to lose weight and she says
we should do a diet together, you know what you do.
Here's the key. You say absolutely, of course, and then
when you are at work, on your way home, you
go get the cheese burger. Why do you do that, man?

(26:45):
Because why don't you stand tall with your lady and
support What if you support your woman? What if you
don't have to lose weight. I'm not saying I'm doing this,
I'm just saying in general, Okay, well yeah, if you
don't have to, I guess you can bulke up some
other time. But then, like what if she finds out though,
how she gonna find out watching you? Just like imagine
you do the wrapper in your car, g two double
deckers on the way home. Make sure you take cash?
Does she gps?

Speaker 4 (27:05):
She does?

Speaker 2 (27:05):
She at the water Burger two fifteen every day. My oh,
lets the kids do that. Safety reasons, right, yeah, she tells.
That's what she's telling. That's exactly what she says. That
is a complete I've never been kidnapped once. What are
we talking about? Safety reasons? Well, if it's like at night,
what are my car breaks down?

Speaker 1 (27:23):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (27:24):
Okay, and then tell me where you live. I've can
turn it on the location after that. I've heard all
those stories before. My phone's already always at one hundred
percent and you're never in any said, let me tell
you she's after she's done with school. She's staring at
that at that phone, she's watching you like at absolutely
so great. You look at her screen time location services,
so you know what you're gonna do you have to

(27:44):
eat one. You're gonna have to eat fat new food
here then if that's ever a green issue, yeah, you
can't GPS if you if you're at the Army's every
day at two thirty, that's gonna be a problem. You're
in the diet playing together, you can always, you can
always as a default goal. I just wanted to get
a diet coke. I need some caffeine. Yeah, Curly, why
did you get to rmy? Did you gotta go on

(28:05):
a mean stone?

Speaker 1 (28:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (28:06):
Why is the carsonmell like curly fries? That's right, we're
gonna leave those crack those windows lingers. So again, we
are all trying to be funny. Wait is never funny.
It's just and it and again. And if I was
you know, wait is a sense of bitu for a

(28:27):
lot of people, men and women for that matter. It
just was just really I saw them like, come on, dude,
it's never so yeah, I mean, he's frankly lucky. You
gets to come back, because that's that's I mean, you
heard me. And those those are young girls, to come on,
let them be in this world of the words never hurt,
and it's not that big of a deal. But also

(28:48):
you should have known better because it unfore it is
the world that we live in. Yeah. Yeah, it's a
harmless joke, it really was. I mean, should he have
made it?

Speaker 4 (28:57):
No?

Speaker 2 (28:58):
Did anybody die?

Speaker 4 (28:59):
No?

Speaker 2 (28:59):
Man, I was like, why don't you mention me exactly
what product plug?

Speaker 5 (29:02):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (29:03):
If you had to spit. If Ozimpic would have dropped
twenty g's on it, it would have been fine. Yes, exactly
seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seventy. Let's go to
a line number two and talk to Leon. You know what, Leon,
I don't know. We've never met. I just thought the
name Leon. I just think the coolest cats in town
are named Leon.

Speaker 7 (29:24):
Hi.

Speaker 2 (29:24):
Leon.

Speaker 9 (29:25):
I appreciate that. I call John Show a couple of times,
but I appreciate that.

Speaker 4 (29:29):
Guys.

Speaker 10 (29:30):
I'm in my second marriage.

Speaker 3 (29:32):
The first one was nineteen.

Speaker 4 (29:33):
This will be.

Speaker 9 (29:33):
Fourteen next month. Wow, And I was teen years in
between the two, so over forty years. Your take, do
not ever ever till they look fat and and you
were Scott, you were spot on when you.

Speaker 10 (29:48):
Said, you know the forty fishes.

Speaker 3 (29:50):
No, No, you look fine, honey, You're good.

Speaker 4 (29:53):
You're good.

Speaker 9 (29:54):
And unfortunately for me, i'm Type too diabetic and my
lovely wife changed her diet help me out nice.

Speaker 3 (30:01):
So that's a good thing.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
That's a good thing.

Speaker 9 (30:03):
But at the same time, don't ever I mean, if
they got, if you got to spend an extra three
four hundred dollars to change their wardrobe to let their
self esteem stay intact, do it. Just just there's there's
no question there.

Speaker 3 (30:15):
Just do it.

Speaker 2 (30:16):
You'll thank me later.

Speaker 7 (30:17):
Because if you don't.

Speaker 3 (30:18):
Do it and you tell somebody, well, honey, you might
want to wrong answer.

Speaker 9 (30:24):
And don't ever ever pinch the gut. Don't please, don't
do that. You're asking for a fight.

Speaker 3 (30:32):
So I'm just saying, so you.

Speaker 2 (30:34):
Are, you are preaching the gospel, and you're always walking
on this show. Okay, Yeah, have a good day. I
will see you later. So Len got double digs with
two ladies. Good for him. Huh. Don't pinch the gut. Okay,
who's ever I've never pinched a woman's gout in my life.
A horrible idea. Yeah, I was gonna say, when you
what what position, what situation would you princh it? Present

(30:55):
your here like your transparencies. He's a gut pincher. It
was a mistake. You've done it before, you learned your lesson,
didn't you, Jonathan. I was just trying to be funny,
you know.

Speaker 5 (31:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (31:11):
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, yeah, no, no no.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
I think the rules should be you never should pinch
a woman, period. I do a little pinching. Well, I mean, well,
you know what, let me let me correct that. There's
a there's a couple of scenarios you can actually pinch
and grab seven one three two one two five seven
NATI the Texans injury report with the bor events significantly,

(31:43):
We're going back to that sweetish. Jonathan was doubtful after that,
but he's back into good graces because he puts the
GPS proper. Yeah exactly, Yeah, yeah, the GPS saved your relationship.
Ten forty two on Sports Talk seven NATI up at
eleven thirty. It's this week's edition. I just don't get it,

(32:04):
and we'll have that. The News at Noon is at
twelve at one thirty today, Willie friends to be with
us to talk about our Houston Cougar is taking on
the Texas Tech Red Raiders, and again, if y'all want
smack talk, all the way until nine thirty at night. Well,
my guess will be smack talking to Sunday morning. Right,
It's good. I'm all for it. I needed it, I've
been asking for it. I want it. You really can't

(32:26):
hurt my feelings unless you insult the way I look
or my family is short of that. You want to
you want to call me cougar high, you want to,
you want to raid or rash, you want to stay
open enrollment, you want to, you know, all those kinds
of things. I'm here for I it's it's what I
live for college football. But I don't. I don't and
I never take it personally. I think others probably do

(32:47):
take it very personally. So not you, miss, I mean
just general. Okay, the the appetizers Texas, Florida. The main
course is Texas Tech Houston. So the national networks, I
don't think that's accurate. I believe it could be completely
completely Okay, Like I said, we'll check the ratings. Well,

(33:07):
it's one of them, is that ABC ones and everybody's
got everybody's got ESPN, Matt, Yeah, but more people have ABC.
Everybody's got everybody's got ESPN. ABC. There's not some guy
getting his rabberty ears out watching ABC HMM should be comparable, okay,
seven one three two one two five seven nine zero.
Al Right, so the injury report on the Texans, Uh,

(33:28):
let me tell you this. Uh, Derek Singly took a
rest day, Rossie, and that's okay, right, yes, I mean
he's obviously not one hundred percent. He has been battling
the oblique issue bleaks for a while and that and
unfortunately you need like a month to get the obliques
taken care of. You just have to. But luckily he's
not swinging a bat. Yeah, well, i anderstond with a

(33:49):
rest day, good because you know what nextra day ar
rest is gonna make him extra frisky on Sunday? Uh, Denico,
do you want an extra frisky? Is that what they
say in the in the meeting room? All right, y'all,
Oh Sunday we gotta be some dogs. We get frisky,
whatever it takes. If you're a well Anderson guy, and
then they do that frisky loves some cats. Well they

(34:13):
probably are. They probably work a little bluer than that.
But this we're on an FCC regulated radio station. Okay,
so let me tell you who's not playing or did
not practice yesterday. Among those for the pat of the
Ravens Rokwan Smith outstanding linebacker, yes Patrick, is it Richard

(34:36):
Rick cart But the fullback yes, yes, uh, that's actually
a big but he's been missing some time. He I
think it's part of the reason why they've not been
able to move run the ball like. He's actually an
amazing full back. That's why I brought up his names.
I don't resinally bring up fullback talk. You don't Marlon Humphrey, cornerback,
Calf Woos he's supposed to miss the game, right, Nate
Wiggins elbow, Davante's walker a bleak. I don't know much

(34:59):
about him. Ronnie Stanley, I do know a lot about him.
Offensive tackle a bat ankle and then he's great. And
then Lamar and Jackson with a hamstring. Hmm, it's a must.
That's win Sunday. That's eight guys. We didn't mention all
of them, but that's eight that it did not participate.
Three limited participants, and that would include Kyle Hamilton. We

(35:20):
know about him safety actually more than that. Excuse me,
let me correct myself. Six limited participants. Linebacker Kyle van
Noy limited Okay, uh, Travis Jones and their nose tackle limited.
I'm gonna say it, you gotta win. You must win
this game. If you can't beat the Baltimore Ravens with

(35:43):
all of that, you're never gonna win in Baltimore. As
a matter of fact, I would if I was Hannah,
I'd be like, next year, if the schedule comes out,
you gonna go back to Baltimore. We're passing on that game. Okay,
you're just gonna forfeit. You're gonna forfeit the game. Thinking
about the costs would be minimal. It's so ridiculous. You
know what you could do? What can you do?

Speaker 4 (36:04):
Matter?

Speaker 2 (36:04):
If you're the Ravens and the Texans forfeit, you have
like a fan fest for the game, for the game.
What they could do like a scrimmage? No, I would
give them and be like an extra by off week.
Yeah they probably want a Yeah, they're gonna want their
money back. That's probably true. TV networks aren't gonna be
interested in Ultimore Ravens. I don't like CBS is gonna
be happy about that at all. That's stout, dude. It

(36:25):
just is. Who's on the call? Uh, Iron Eagle and
J J. Watt Oh do you think they're like, oh great,
where we came up all this way for Cooper Rush? Well,
they're probably yeah, because I think Lamar, I mean Lamar
Jackson say what you will is a dynamic player of
an MVP what two time MVP, correct, two time MVP
and very He didn't win last year because the Bravens

(36:47):
had a good defense and Derrick Henry, but he is
his numbers were to me superior than to Josh Allen's. Yeah,
I mean, how long is always I bring this up
with college athletic somebody say this On the pro side,
somebody that spends a lot of money and has a
good team around him ain't going to the super Bowl

(37:08):
yet Again, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson both can't end
their Super Bowl jinks this year. Correct, somebody's gonna be
and a lot of folks I was looking at ESPN's headlines.
If the Ravens lose this game, do we kick them
out to the curve as a potential playoff team? I wouldn't.
I wouldn't either, But you're taking yourself a pretty big
hole on They've played the Bills, Okay, they beat the Browns.

(37:32):
The teams they've lost to are the Bills, the Lions,
and the Chiefs. That's like three Super Bowl contenders. Then
they have the Texans this week. They're probably thinking this
is a must win game for them. Oh, because of
the fact that Texans have not going and been very competitive.
Because they're only two and a half point dogs, it's
a winnable game for them. They're at home, and then

(37:54):
if they lose this game to the Texans, then they
have the Rams next week and you could be putent
actually one in five. So if we're on Baltimore radio,
we're calling this a must win game for the Ravens.
Now tomorrow we're having Nestor asked, Oh, I was Butcher's
last name, and I'm butchering again? Let me I'm gonna

(38:15):
read his name off of my text, will be easier.
Nestor is a long time Baltimore sportscaster. Okay, he's been
he's been denied credentials now for the Ravens and the Orioles.
Apparently he's pissed him off so much. So oh really
because he crushes them or what?

Speaker 1 (38:31):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (38:32):
Apparently Nestor asparratio Okay, sad three times fast and Nestor Asparritio.
It's let me tell you how to spell it. Here
is a p A r I c Io. Okay, appariccio.
You know is he related to Luis Apparrecio one. I
wonder if it's his dad. I've never asked him that.
Who's Luisa Apparatio? Who's the famous picture? I'm asking the

(38:56):
wrong person. Ezekial A Sacio. I know him, No, no, no,
But Nestor has been a longtime Baltimore host. But apparently
he just gets side a Parisio. Yeah. Well see if
it's put father in the Google and see known by
the nickname Nasty Nestor. Yeah, nasty that's the first line
of Wikipedia. Yeah, wow, venezuelan American? He is. Uh he

(39:23):
is the first cousin of Luis Aparicio. Yeah, call first cousin. Okay,
I got you. But he'll be on the show tomorrow
because he's gonna give us a Baltimore field for and
he will not be Apparently he doesn't. He's first cousin
once removed, which means his father is the first cousin.
Oh I see, okay, there you go. Uh, Oh, we gotta,
we gotta Is this a must win game conversation point

(39:44):
of course, it is folks. Last week was a must
win game. This week's a must wins game. Who knows
next week could be a Muslin game too. You could
have fifteen must win games on the schedule. Sounds fair
to me. Scott on seven Outy Good Morning.

Speaker 10 (40:00):
Matt Ross was killing on guys. This is a must
win game, and I'll tell you why so. Obviously from
a record perspective. However, when we were looking at the
schedule at the beginning of the year, even in our
most fullish predictions, this game was penciled in as a
guaranteed loss virtually by anyone who follows the Texan. So
now with the circumstances of changing, winning this game almost

(40:23):
feels like winning two games. It almost gives you the
Jacksonville game back, because we were never going to win
this game with the way you know that the Ravens
were fully healthy. I think the big key to the
game for me is we need to start. We need
to accept who we are, and that is not a
very good offensive team, especially when it comes to passing

(40:43):
the ball. The goal, in my opinion, especially with the
Ravens offense being so injured, is we need to commit
to running first and second down. The goal needs to
be to get to third and short, second in medium,
and if we have to punt, we have to punt.
Almost play not to lose, because if our defense can

(41:04):
play the way that it's capable of against Cooper rush,
you know, let's make this a ten to seven thirteen
seventeen thirteen type of game. Run the ball. But yeah,
this is this is a must win, and we need
to accept the fact that dropping back the pass is
just not something that we are very good at and
stop trying to prove that it's something that we do

(41:26):
well and commit to being a safe, conservative offense. I
know that sounds boring. I don't know what you guys think,
but I think we need to start start playing to that.
I mean, second and thirty. We're not going to be
able to hit those nee balls to Nco every time
and overcome that to win games. So that is my
analysis on it. Conservative football, lean on your defense, and

(41:49):
we should be Baltimore.

Speaker 2 (41:50):
Well, here, DeVico, Ryan's nodding his head. Yeah, Dniko is
all in on this. There's just one issue. You're going
to have to get what he mars g aets you
four yards of carry. You can't be conservative. And I'm
not saying that what he can't do this, but you
can't be conservative. You're facing a lot of second and eight,
third and sevens, so stay on schedule, that's what you're saying. Yeah,

(42:10):
I don't think. I I again, we're not gonna be
in Louisiana to bet this, but I would bet the
ender on this game. Yeah, it's a low. I think
it's thirty nine and a half or something like that.
I'll go. Look by the way, people were saying the
Jaguars game was a must win game two they did. Yes, Oh,
because you don't want to go Owen three. You don't
want to go Owen three because history saych owing three
doesn't make the playoffs. Correct. Okay, so was a must
win game three weeks ago. This last week was the

(42:31):
must win game. We got another must win game.

Speaker 11 (42:33):
Let's go.

Speaker 2 (42:33):
Okay, so let's help. Let me tell you this. If
the Texans win this week, Seattle game for me, is
not a must win. You heard it here first. Okay,
Texans Insider tells you that me ten fifty nine of
the Matt Thomas Show with Ross we got I just
don't get it's coming up in a half an hour
from now. Seven one three, two, one two five seven

(42:54):
ninety is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross Love It No.
Two Sports Talk seven ninety It is our number two
of four. I just don't get it. Come up at
eleven thirty. You love us in the first hour, you're
the next three hours. We are not going to disappoint you,

(43:16):
or we might have reached our cristcendo. We don't know
these things. Oh man, we're building towards the future. Yeah,
but one fifteen Rick, Yeah, we're caw McNair and the
Texans mortar by mortar, segment by segment radio excellence.

Speaker 4 (43:30):
Ye.

Speaker 2 (43:31):
So uh, I just don't get eleven thirty and Willie
Fritz at one thirty this afternoon, and believe it or not,
today all things about Jane goodall good, goodall goodall goodall
longtime animal enthusiast.

Speaker 11 (43:45):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (43:46):
Yeah, I thought she was dead, but I hadn't heard
her names. Yeah, now somebody else all sold didn't the
one that used to go on the Johnny Carson Show.
She passed away too recently. What was her name? Drawn
a little bit of a blank on Joan Rivers. No, No,
this was he used to have this woman on all
the time. It's his Uh yeah, Joan Rivers, No, it

(44:07):
was not Joan Rivers. Joan and Johnny didn't speak for
thirty years after she went to do a chef's show.
But that's either here nor there. She was a primatologist
and anthropologist. Really, of course she lives with chimps, right, well,
I don't think she like I don't think they live
with her. I'm sure she was obviously spent a lot
on ants out of their hair and stuff. I don't
know she's doing all that. Oh, tonight shows zuit sick

(44:31):
ahead because I'm just so disappointed in you. The comments
that have come out of your mouth today have been
absolutely very bad. Oh my god, she wrote like twenty books. Yeah,
she was like ninety four years old something, ninety one.
May she rest. That's a life well lived with chimps,
Joan Ambery was. I was thinking of him. Oh, okay,

(44:52):
see I'll close. And I think she's also dead too.
We're losing a lot of people, aren't we. Yes stopped
sports Matt sports okay, uh channel to roam in front
of the show. You know he has this little podcast.

(45:14):
It's yes, he does a bit steel podcast because it's
called crush City Pod and that called crush City Territory
or whatever, which is okay. And he's on this show
with the A team during the baseball season. It's excellent. Yes,
he's breaking new he breaks news like a mouda yeap,
breaks hiss like a mother, ask good questions. He's not
like what you would normally hear to Texans press conference

(45:35):
with one stupid question after another being asked. But that's
not an in know there. Wow. Uh it was. They
put a little snippet on their Twitter account about the
future of Dana Brown, and I don't want to paraphrase.
I don't necessarily want to play it either, because it
was just just conjecture. But he felt very uneasy about
that press conference on Monday, and about how we've talked

(45:58):
about this for a couple of days now about neither
one of them necessarily giving themselves, well Danta in particular
giving himself a ring endorsement of not only his manager
but himself, in the way that everything was worded. Yeah,
that it was just it wasn't a fluid or the
future of the administration is sitting at this table. The

(46:21):
future of this team is. We're gonna go in the room,
shut the door, we're gonna knock this out. We're gonna
figure out what's going on for next year and move forward.
I am the general manager, Joe is my manager. We're
running it back for with this press conference. We're gonna
go and there, we're gonna have lunch, and we're gonna
talk about the Yeah, none of that happened. And again,
press conferences don't tell a whole story. Sometimes you're not

(46:44):
prepared for a certain question to be asked of you,
which I would think that would not be the case. Yeah,
I would echo those sentiments and were talking about data.
He was more with Danna than Joe. That makes I mean,
that makes sense to just the way that everything came
out and the reason why it was brought up on
their little pod, and it makes some sense. Hey, don't

(47:05):
call it their little pod. Okay, they're massively huge pod.
On their pod, you don't have to give any sort
of districtor on their pod. There you go and there.
And it's funny because there's actually a legitimate pod by
people that are in the media and like others, but
that's a different issue. On their pod, the question was

(47:28):
has Dana done what he was supposed to do when
he got the job. Very clearly, when Dana got the job,
it was to be to I think his number one
focus was to rebuild the minor league organization because he
got his he learned at the craft by working with

(47:50):
Toronto and working with Atlanta, building drafts, being in war rooms,
being a town evaluator, and had you know, again, we've
the Astros have sent still, even during Dana's tenure as
a general manager, a lot of players away in trades. Yes,

(48:11):
they've had to, had to. And do you do you
give him the benefit of the doubt of the of
the system not being where it's supposed to be because
of that, or do you say, well, the two guys
that are most highly regarded in this organization help me
out with this. It's gonna be Bryce Matthews and Jacob Maultain. Correct. Yes,

(48:32):
Bryce Matthews was his first draft pick, and he's your
number one prospect and Jacob Mountain's number the number two prospect. Correct. Yes,
I don't think he drafted Jacob Mountain. Was that the
year before? I have to go look, But well, even
if you didn't necessarily draft him, you have you are
in charge of the minor league organization. You're in charge

(48:53):
of the instruction. You're in charge of placing guys where
they need to be is And again, those two guys
would would not necessarily decide whether or not a system
is working. It feels like to me they've they've had
to go to the minor league system more than anybody
would should ever have to go to And I would
say the results have been pretty good for the most part.

(49:13):
I mean he would and got Jason Alexander off the
scrap heap. Okay, Meltain was twenty twenty two. The rest
of your top four. This is your top four, Bryce Matthews,
Dana Brown draft pick, Jacob Meltain the year before Xavier
Nine's is your number three. This is Gordon at MLB pipeline.
Is your number three guy just drafted by Dana Brown.
And then Walker Yannick was your first round pick last year. Yeah, So,

(49:35):
I mean your top four guys are all guys that
Dana has drafted. So Jacob mount was a draft pick. No, No,
he wasn't. I'm sorry, sorry, I'm sorry. Yeah, I misspoked. Okay,
three of the top four, Three of the top four
guys that he just drafted. But also Bryce is a
fringe what was he ninety eighth, top hundred huge. None
of them are the best prospects in baseball, but I

(49:56):
mean it's something. And as you said, you've had to
trade away a lot of guys. And oh, by the way,
you weren't drafting one, two, three, four five because of
the team's success. You were drafting in the lower third
or the bottom five of the Major League Baseball draft order.
The Kyle Tucker trade was very good, finding relievers who
who fit and who have been effective off basically off
the scrap heap has been very good for Dana Brown.
And frankly, if Cam Smith spent this years in a

(50:18):
Triple A, you'd be a top Hunter prospect. Absolutely, he
was top twenty five. I would think he was like,
sh no, not that high.

Speaker 4 (50:27):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (50:27):
The point being is that he would be right comfortably
in that top Hunter list. Yeah, so you had to
move you had to move low Berfiito. Yeah. Pre this
year he was Baseball Perspectives had at number twenty uh,
Major League MLB had him at fifty nine, Baseball America
at fifty five. Okay, so there's three different Still good

(50:48):
and still top sixty. I would take it among all
the thousands of players in oren miling systems around this country. Yeah,
top six siess Okay, So you acquired a top Hunter
guy who drafted a top Hunter guy, and then two
of your other top three prospects or guys you've recently drowned.
How was west Esky considered? What was he considered?

Speaker 5 (51:04):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (51:05):
I mean he wasn't a prospect really because he'd pitched before,
but he was That was a good acquisition, Oh I
think yeah, I mean I west Esky did pitch for
the Cubs last year, so it wasn't like it was
a guy that had never seen a major league ball before.
So I just I Pratus was one of your best
hit basically when he went down, he was your best
hitter along a painted Can I just say this and again,

(51:25):
Jim Crane has never asked my opinion about anything. Well,
I ac actually not true, But that's a different issue.

Speaker 11 (51:29):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (51:31):
I would bring both guys back and not necessarily say
this is a one off. But when you've had such
sustained success for so long, I want to see how
Joe's bottle handles this. I want to see how Dana Brown.
What maneuvering that I will let them do in terms

(51:54):
of trades, money, free agency. I want to see how
he's what what what things they're bringing to me to say, hey,
what do you think about this? I mean, flat out,
I don't think they deserve to be fired. No, Now,
I wouldn't be hitting out extensions because again I want

(52:15):
to see what. I want to see what they're doing.
But don't you think that it would be not the
right or the responsible thing to do to just give
them a year to go? All right? Things didn't work
our way. You can chalk a lot to injuries. You
can chalk it up to moving Kyle Tucker and losing
Alex bregmant. How do we adapt to this? Things are
down at the office, as I'm talking about in real

(52:35):
life downsales year, Let's see what you can do? I think.
I think when you have such excellent success and the
reputations are good, and Joe's been here for a long time,
bench coach for AJ for a long period of time,
was a bench coach for Dusty Baker. He has, you know,
first playoff appearance last season. I kind of want to
see how these guys adapt to the when things aren't

(52:57):
as easy as they've been and said past that's why
I keep them. I keep them both. I think they
both actually did a good job. I think they're doing
a good job now. They were a week away from
calling Joe Manners of the Year. Yeah, and then they
got swept by the Mariners. Yeah. The Hayso Sanchez deal
has not worked out just yet. May it never, may

(53:17):
never work out. It's painful for me to it. May
it's very painful for me to watch him play. He
might be going, uh, you moved, You got Jose Arias
for nothing? Really, Yes, it'll be interesting. As we talked about,
I had one if he or Dubon, it feels like
they won't both be back correct and maybe you're looking
for it. Maybe Eurius is a little more offensive punch

(53:38):
down the road. I don't know. Also, you're you, You
don't need the versatility of Dubon as much if you
have Urius and the covering the infield as a backup,
and then you have I mean, you have a glood
of outfielders right now, especially with that Cole in the
fold and Jake Myers and if Sanchez comes back Cam Smith.
Now it's not a glood of great outfielders, but Chas

(53:59):
McCormick is still the system. We'll see what happens there.
I mean, you've you've, you've got guys. Yeah, So all
I would say is to circle back to the pod
part of it was is that I think everybody has
got their own opinions about what the interpretation was of
how that press conference turned out. But nobody felt like
it was strong votes of confidence for either No, no,

(54:20):
nobody is going okay. The organization is a firm handle
about what they want to do with their administration. And
maybe and maybe Jim's maybe that, I mean, maybe Jim
definitely knows what he likes and doesn't like about the
two men, and if he was exasperated on how things
ended this past year or exasperated the fact that hayesus
Sanchez trade did not work out, and he's exasperated that

(54:40):
he you weren't able to get Dylan Ceese away from
San Diego even on a rental Eric Getton three prospects,
which that was probably leaked up by the Astros by
the way, Oh yeah, yeah. When when someone says, what
do you get him? Well, do you see what San
Diego asked Now, if Dylan see said two years off
to hear that report that I didn't like. Now, if

(55:03):
Dylan Sees had a year of if he was guaranteed,
then maybe you make that deal. Eleven fourteen. It's a
Matt Thomas show of ross. If you want to chime
in anything we've discussed so far today, we've included in
the following. Uh, the Texans Baltimore Ravens injury report is lengthy.
We have the astros and that a little bit of
uncertainty still at this point, and maybe they'll be uncertainty

(55:24):
until they come out with a release that says here's
who's coming back and who's not coming back. We have
Texas Tech Houston smack talking each other unbelievably large amounts
of smack. Frankly rarefied air for both of these teams,
Text Tech, I've never been undefeated this late in the season.
You of h We had four wins last year, so
we had four now, ooh, go kooks, go kooks seven

(55:46):
one three two one two five seven Nini And again
we've made the general statement that always fits. Never complain
about a woman's weight, never talk about it, never joke
about it. Just don't ever, ever, ever, ever, ever do it.
It's not fair of them, and you're gonna get in trouble.
Period into story seven one three two one two five

(56:06):
seven ninety eleven twenty am here on Sports Talk seven
ninety coming up at about ten minutes. I just don't
get it. Thursday Staples Segment. Phone lines open at seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven ninety. If you would

(56:27):
like to get in, you can also follow my Instagram
at sports RV. I really would appreciate that. Go shake
your head at me. Uh, I think I was too.
I think I got over twelve hundred yesterday. So I
appreciate those a handful of you who followed me when
I was trying to get over twelve hundred, trying to
post more content and build up the Instagram. I would
appreciate a follow at Sports RV. Got the Baseball playoffs

(56:49):
going on right now. Three of the series are going
to three games, and of course we know Major League
Baseball and the networks like that ESPN getting their money's
worth with all these games. Two o'clock on ABC, it'll
be the Tigers versus the Guardians, Padres and Cubs going
to a decisive Game three, and then, of course the

(57:10):
main event for ESPN seven o'clock Red Sox versus the Yankees.
Uh wow, today's edition of Major League Baseball and nobody
watches anymore is not gonna work. Well, ratings are astronomical
for this while cardon, Come on, I thought baseball is dying.
Tendons is fantastic. Well, I'm not in Cleveland. Well, you
know what's funny is I had a buddy of mine

(57:31):
text me that said that that what was I gonna
tell you? Oh that they sold the game out yesterday?
They did? It didn't look like it. I watched the
same thing you watched the No, this is yesterday? Yeah,
this say is twenty six thousand, six and sixty nine

(57:53):
for Game two. See did my game ban information from people?
Yesterday was October first?

Speaker 7 (57:58):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (57:59):
Yeah, twenty six six six nine. Okay, we're on the
same page. I'm a Texa guy right now. Tell him
shut his bumbass off. Seriously, you cannot be sending me
stuff and saying that the game is sold out when
it wasn't sold out. I'm sorry, man, unreliable source put
that in their contact info. Yeah, I want to be
saying whatever his name is, like Doug, Doug unreliable but

(58:20):
hug mm hmm, can't have it speaking of a team
that's gonna lose tonight. Keith is with us on seven
on eleven twenty two, Keith, good morning.

Speaker 7 (58:30):
Mad I got bad news feed?

Speaker 2 (58:31):
How bad is it.

Speaker 3 (58:34):
Now?

Speaker 7 (58:34):
Not only are the Astros not in the playoffs this year,
they may not be back in the playoffs for probably
like five more years. They got injury prone players like
albare Is. They got Al Tuba who he's like, he's
like done kickle pork and he's about done maybe one

(58:54):
more year and uh and next year, we all we
gonna do it, get better, We're gonna get hold back.
We're just gonna be complete Yankee dominations probably for the
next five years while y'all sit and watch us for
five years at home.

Speaker 2 (59:11):
You know what I mean? No, I don't know what
you mean. I mean, what a grandiose statement of complete inaccuracies.
Your squad was gifted in the American League Championship last
year where Aaron Judge went one for seventy five during
the World Series. You are one loss away from your
season being ending. You are coming across extraordinarily hockey right now,
which is kind of what you've been doing for years,

(59:32):
my friend, love you.

Speaker 7 (59:33):
Though, how about this, I think the same fellow that
you're talking about, he's back in at least five hundred
right now, and I'm looking at him having two home
runs tonight and probably being the American League player of
the year, we Playoff player of the year, whatever they
call that, when we win the World Series this year

(59:56):
and next year. And I hope you have a fantastic days.

Speaker 2 (01:00:02):
I'm going to especially when you don't call tomorrow when
your squad loses. It feels even kind of dirty saying it.
But let's go Red Socks. Yeah, I'll let me tell you.
I'm not gonna say let's go Bregman. I'll say let's
go Braggs. Yes, let's go Kyle Tucker won for seven
so far in the playoffs, not that that's the American League,

(01:00:22):
but if he was zero for seven, you'd be better off.
I guess he can help himself more than he can
hurt himself. At this point, I think, yeah, sorry, Matt,
what's the one is a single? Yeah? Like an infield single,
slap single. Several strikeouts, No advancement runners. Now that's a
big deal. Okay, we shall see hit bachi. I'm going

(01:00:46):
to lose, but it could happen. It will be the
sweetest win if I get it. You get a short term.
If you can he signs like a three year whatever
with opt a hundred minut dollars with opt outs, then
you will win. Hm. That's the only way, right Basically,
anything else yours, that's fine. I've actually I told my

(01:01:08):
wife is sitical. I've actually budgeted our dinner. You have,
You're like, go ahead and put it in this. I
have a I have a gambling stash and I'm gonna
have to go to the gambling store. Really yeah, I
mean she's she's really good about it. But we're going
to haibachi and we're taking John Than with us. It's
gonna be expensive, I know. Especially give me orange Young
he'd eat. You can need to order in the flame

(01:01:29):
and Young like I'll think, No, we've got a flaming
young coming. Yeah, uh no, Yeah, We'll see what happens.
Rabbi Rebby's mid that's five ox up. The Rabbi's great.
Oh Rebby is tasty. I'm just saying that you can
go three different ways on your meat. Yeah, I think
I'm gonna get the tomahawk. You cannot tomahawk a bachi grill.
I'm gonna try break my own. You cannot shut to

(01:01:52):
the hibachi grill. I'm gonna try. By the way, Scott
unless there says tech was ten and Oer ranked second
in two thousand and eight. I don't think I said
the best foign noh, starting history. I say it's one
of the best starts in history. Hey, you kind of
you it rolled off your tongue. I wasn't it. You
kind of said it that way. Oh but that's fine.
I apologies. Yah, that's fine. It's not a big deal.
Well apparently it was the Scott So just people like
to correct when we say things wrong. It's sorry, I

(01:02:15):
made a mistake. Everybody. Sorry, in make Google in front
of me. Sorry, sorry, sorry, It's all good. You don't
get to beig down. Let's go coubes. I don't care
about to bill these Red Raider fans. Let's go kubes.

Speaker 4 (01:02:31):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
I guess I'll have to get the report from you
because I'm not going to be there. Yeah, you're not invited.
Oh well I could have gotten Yeah, I could have gone,
but the Longhorn games at two thirty, and like, if
it goes into overtime and I have tickets, I'm not
gonna want to. And if Florida's winning twenty four to seventeen,
you would really then I could. Well, then i could
go into the stadium easy, But I'm just worried if
it's like a I think it's gonna be a low scoring,

(01:02:54):
close late game, So I don't want to take up
tickets if I'm not going to be there on time.
Be rude. I want to say, is it a sellout yet?
Of course? Gotta be right? Yeah, Okay, I want to say,
as I listen to Joey McGuire, I think there's five
times the text has gone five and zero in their career. Okay,
don't hold me to that. I won't because I don't

(01:03:16):
need to get an email corrected. Yeah, but how how
many times are those? A lot of those wins against like, well,
actually it happened this year, right, was it? Arkansas Pine Bluff?
And who was the other? Well the Utah for them, yes,
of course, but I mean yeah, I mean text text
non conference in the past has featured the likes of
New Mexico State, New Mexico. Mike was the RG of

(01:03:36):
the Soft Conference. The Soft non Conference was invented by
Mike Leach. Yeah, it was embarrassing every year. And Kirk
Signetti did the Saints doing in Indiana and he's like,
y'all can suck it because guess what we're doing on
a big ten. Yeah, I mean it kind of makes sense.
I'm ROSSI you know what I get? Or hypocrites because
we want that sexy Week one match up. But guess

(01:03:58):
what when Texas lost Ohio State, longhorned fans lost their
damn mind. I didn't lose my mind. No, I'm not
talking about you collectively. All right, Well don't you get
you'll find out next seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one Sorry you
and your pauses seven one three two one two five

(01:04:20):
seventy there's something in your life you just don't get.
Seven one three two one two five seven.

Speaker 10 (01:04:27):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (01:04:27):
By the way, we have a listener. We have a
coworker of ours. He's smacked talking to me via an
email during the show. Oh yeah, I said, look, there's
gonna be a lot of text of tech fans. He
goes Yeah, there's gonna be like seventy percent text tech fans.
That's too high. I would hope for your fan base
that it's not that high. I was thinking. Am I
wrong to think sixty forty coops? No, it's gonna be

(01:04:50):
hard to tell because everybod's gonna wearing red. No, it's
it's our blue game. Oh but yeah, but I mean still,
people are not right. Not all the fans are gonna
wear blue. I'll be wearing my blue. Okay, your h
town blue, he town blue. All right, you're gonna get
a seasoned desist from eighty Amy Adams Trunk. No U
any Ntonia says, that's all free and clear, bridge into
the water. They cut the check. Seven one three two
one two five seventy What don't you get? Call us next?

(01:05:15):
All right, what don't you get? My friends? Seven one
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven ninety. This is a segment
where the three of us of three different age groups
come together as one. We say, hey, we got things
in our life, whether it be sports related, whether it
be life related. We try to help each other out,

(01:05:35):
and we as three men of worldly travel and experiences
can try to help you out as well with any
of your things. You just don't get seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seventy. Now Jonathan is moving quickly to
the microphone. So I'm going to assume you got something
like the law. If you don't, that's okay, we'll pass.
But something I just thought you were getting anxious over there.

(01:05:58):
I'm thinking, I'm like, all right, what do I want
to say? What you got? Uh?

Speaker 8 (01:06:02):
I just don't get because I had a lot of
I have a lot of homegirls before it, and one
of the main things is they want their partner right
to tell them if they're getting flirted on right or
like say like Rosster, you're getting flirted on right and
they're like, oh yeah, this girl said I looked nice
to them.

Speaker 2 (01:06:18):
But if you don't tell them.

Speaker 8 (01:06:21):
What I don't get is with you if you don't
tell them and they find out or you know what
the case may be, like, they'll they'll be some time,
they'll be hurt. And you ask them, oh, I wouldn't
tell you, like you know whatever, and they're like, no,
you need to tell me.

Speaker 2 (01:06:31):
I need to know.

Speaker 8 (01:06:31):
I need to know if you know, whatever the case
may be. But I just don't understand why they get
upset if the person thinks you look good?

Speaker 2 (01:06:41):
Does that make sense? Like I don't like it's jealousy.
Don't ever tell them anything in any of that. It's
but I just don't get that.

Speaker 8 (01:06:48):
I just you know, you know what I mean, Like
if I get mad at me, if you want to
know that, if you're trying, if you're trying to totally
get they're searching for intelligence, don't give them anything.

Speaker 2 (01:06:59):
Don't go don't no, no, I got one go home
and be like, oh this bar, I think the bartender
likes me, she gave me a drink. She's she's gonna
stab that bartender. All right, you're just you're just it's
it's messing with her mind. So how about this one?
If you ran into an old high school friend at
a bar. Yeah, and it's a girl, you never ran

(01:07:19):
into her, you don't even bring up the story. No, sorry, Now,
if it's your buddy Scott, that's okay. But if her
name is Belinda, no chance. So it's always in go
down hell no matter what, don't correct, don't say I
think this girl likes me. Or that girl, even if
it's like a joke. Even it's like the old eighty
year old lady at work, don't even joke that she
likes you. Don't no corect no, no relationships, no laughing matter,

(01:07:44):
unless you're just trying to gaslight her and purposely make
her jealous and make her crazy.

Speaker 8 (01:07:48):
So if we flip it and Matt like, so your
wife's like, hey, this dude thought I said I was
attracted And she comes and tells you yes, which had
happened to me before.

Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
Right, and then so what how do you do?

Speaker 8 (01:07:57):
You just oh, okay, like you know, like as a
comp mean to me, I gotta you know, attract the wife.

Speaker 2 (01:08:02):
But like, yes, what I what I say to her
back is something I cannot mention on here. Okay, So all,
but I you know your girls getting hurt hit on
every day basically that women just get hit on every day.
It's yeah, where's men do not get hit on? It
just get hit on and not telling you about it.

Speaker 4 (01:08:23):
Problem.

Speaker 8 (01:08:24):
So like this is a story, and I you know,
I told you that once I went to the dentist
and the first thing the lady at the front desk says,
He's like, oh, my god, you have a pretty smile,
and I did the mistake.

Speaker 2 (01:08:33):
To say that, you know what I mean? And this
is what I just don't get. Honestly, you can't go
you know, no, no and no, and then we're glad
to help you out with you. Let's learn some women
are jealous and others, yes, some have Well you're my man,

(01:08:54):
so sorry for her, but that's it. That's a minority
because then she's it'll be in her head like why
is he telling me this? Yes? And why why would
he tell me? Did he like her? Oh? Does he
like that he got hit on by her?

Speaker 12 (01:09:10):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:09:10):
Why does he keep talking about all these girls?

Speaker 6 (01:09:12):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:09:12):
What is he doing that? He's flirting with these girls
and they're talking to him? Why does he flirt with everybody?
Is you gonna You're gonna put seeds in her mind?
Planting seeds? And that's not seeds you want to grow? Yep?
All right, Mine is a little sports related. And I'm
watching golf here on the Golf channel. Some term I
don't even care about, but it's another here nor there. Uh.
Why did we as Americans act like complete jackasses during

(01:09:34):
the Rider Cup? What happened? I missed the whole thing,
just a lot of swearing, booing, unprofessional uh language, and
and the announcer who announced that the golfers was kind
of provoking pushing it along as well. Rory McAvoy was
getting yelled at all these terrible, terrible things. I heard
him get called an F word, and yeah, it's the

(01:09:58):
Ryder Cup. It's a it's not an individual it's a
team event, which are very few team events in sports.
And I understand you you want to rally for the flag,
but it's still golf. There is never there's one event
per year. And they're even trying to back that down
a little bit. That waste management tournament in Phoenix has
become a huge cheerleading event, but they're they're even trying

(01:10:19):
to dial that back a little bit. People getting tossed
out of that place. Right, Golf is a silent sport, yes,
until the shot has been taken and then you can
cheer and yell and do all the things. Isn't a
whole you know, all that kind of thing the way
that we acted we as Americans, so maybe just New Yorkers.
I don't get why we did that. We haven't done

(01:10:44):
that before a lot. It's not on the regular you don't.
You don't go to the Shell or whatever the Houston
opens called these days and do that. You don't do
it at ninety percent of golf tournaments. You don't do
that when in New York at Bethpage when they were
having other tournaments. What got into us? Is it alcohol?

Speaker 4 (01:10:59):
Is that?

Speaker 2 (01:10:59):
Why don't just don't get why we made a complete
ass out of ourselves. Uh, it just feels like everything's
gone downhill since the pandemic, including fan experiences like this
and fans not conducting themselves properly. And so what you
did is basically is you acted like asses, and you're
never gonna get the tournament back there again. So if
you want to go do that and you live in
that area of the country, you don't have to go

(01:11:19):
somewhere else in a few years to watch the next
Ryder Cup because they're not going to be coming back there.
I just don't get why we continue to act like
complete dufices in sporting events, especially when golf gives you
something that most sports don't give you. You get to
get as close as you can get to those professional athletes.

(01:11:39):
As I mean, basketball would be the difference, but even
so that's only the the courtside, which, yeah, you've never been,
there's gonna be a spot. Well it's nice. I've been
there plenty of times. You're gonna be in a situation
where you're not going to able to do this if
you continue to act like this. So I felt sorry
for those golfers, and I felt embarrassed for that part
of the country. I just don't get why we did that.

(01:12:01):
You were run a good thing and you were losing
by the way. I would just say alcohol, yeah, and
post pandemic. Yeah, all right, that's what I got on
my stuff. What do you got. I'll go to Cleveland
twenty six six sixty nine playoff game. You can't get
thirty k in there. I don't get what's going on
over there. It's not like they've been the playoffs every
single year. I mean it was one Eastern people have

(01:12:22):
to work, but it is the Guardians. They have a
huge they have a pretty good sized fan base. It's
not like it's just you know, it's a raise or
something there. You're also on this miracle run. I think
it'd be fun to go catch the team. And is
it the way that it's attendance and the wild card
just down because everybody's like, Okay, we'll see if they
win and then we'll buy the table. And it's not.
But Cleveland shouldn't be doing that. Detroit has led the

(01:12:43):
division for nine to nine percent of the season. Oh yeah,
they were in the AC I forgot. They went on
that run in the ALCS last year. So they've been
in the playoffs three of the last four years. They
quite a bit. They do go more than I thought. Yeah, okay,
maybe I get it, but you can't get thirty k
in there. I wonder if I would be curious to
hear see wild card attendances as opposed to alds as

(01:13:05):
in a NLDS. Okay, so you know they play today,
they're playing a little bit later this afternoon. There are
only three games compared to four. So it's a must
win game by the way, that is indeed, yes, and
the Tigers. Ooh, that's a tough one to have a
must win for two teams in the same Oh, like
the Ravens and Texans must win. They both must win
this week. Well, I think for mental health it's a

(01:13:27):
must win for the Texans. That's every week it's the NFL.
Anybody ever happy after a loss in the NFL. I
mean I've yeah, I mean no, no, I mean time
great seven one three, two, one two five seven ninety.
Let's take one call here to see what's what you

(01:13:47):
don't get and we as three enterprising young men can
try to help you out with Okay, geo on seven
eighty geo, what don't you get?

Speaker 11 (01:13:56):
All right?

Speaker 5 (01:13:57):
Guys?

Speaker 13 (01:13:57):
As you know, I think the Matt Thomas will is
the best on the lineup. You know, you guys do
a great job. Yeah you're crushing all that. But what
I don't get. The only thing that you guys are
lacking on right now that the Shawn Salisbury Show is
killing you guys on is when we come back from
break that they got some amazing music selections.

Speaker 3 (01:14:17):
When they come back from breaking.

Speaker 13 (01:14:18):
Now, I just don't understand why you guys, don't you know,
put a little bump, you know what I'm saying, coming
back from breaks. And also one thing for Ja and Jonathan.
If a woman gives you a compliment, listen, man, that's
for you. You put that thing in your pocket and
you feel good about that. You don't have to tell
you a girl about that, all right, man?

Speaker 2 (01:14:34):
I hear you man a great show. Guys, that's a
good way to put it. Put it in your pocket
and leave it there. It's my opinion. Well, it's uh
that bump music doesn't matter for shows. Well, can I
appeel the curtain back? Yes, it's my fault because when

(01:14:57):
we play bump music, we tend to talk about at
the bump music. Yes, and my fault too. And so
we play an Elton Johnson and then we started what
your talk about?

Speaker 4 (01:15:05):
John? Right?

Speaker 2 (01:15:06):
So I will say this, when you hear bump music
outside of the normally normally playing that the cool stuff,
it's for a purpose. We use the song as a
as a reach for what we're gonna talk about, or
a way where we were discussing.

Speaker 4 (01:15:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:15:19):
Yeah, so I buy as much as I would love
to play different stuff, it probably keeps us on track
if we don't do it that way. Yeah, and it
keeps Yes, it keeps us on topic. And this is
a sports talk show, not a music show. Yes, Now
do we talk about music occasionally that goes to a yeah.
So what I'm gonna say, as much as I would
love to add some other stuff, it's in our best

(01:15:41):
interest to keep it as much as we can support.
I used to always argue with Indie Kalou about this
because he liked He's like, you gotta play this, you
gotta play that, Like, yeah, it's a it's a talk show.
Do your talk show, it's not a music show. Yeah,
and he's like, oh, it pumps me up for the segment.
Like okay, well, if you can't do a ten minute
good segment without a good five seconds of music, now,
I do not want you playing classical music. That would

(01:16:02):
that would bring me down. I'll give you that. Oh,
I like, what's wrong, that's a you're Tchaikowsky. No, you
tell news, by the way, what you tell Tchaikowsky the news?
When he rolls over Beethove the Lord, all right, love
it see us, we say, that's why we don't do
it more phone calls next. Uh, if you don't get something,

(01:16:25):
we're here for you. Isn't that what they say when
they say, if you you know the news or whatever,
don't look at me. I don't know, look at her.
It's my fault. Much of the reason why this show
goes off the beaten track is my fault. I don't
think that's accurate. Eleven forty five on The Matt Thomas
Show with Ross seven one three two one two five seven, ninty,

(01:16:47):
What don't you get seven one three two one two
five seven ninety Matt and Ross with you Sports Talk
seven ninety. It is the Matt Thomas Show. Seven one
three two one two five seven Natti seven one three
two one two five seven Natti. Let me get to uh,

(01:17:08):
let's see here. James is with us on the show, James,
Good afternoon. What's going on? Good morning?

Speaker 11 (01:17:15):
Yeah, I don't get why you're giving women's advice and
you can't then hold your hands walk down the street.

Speaker 2 (01:17:22):
By the way, I've received multiple videos of people dropping
people hold On that video that you got on Twitter,
they were going into the door. They went to go
open the door, so they they stopped holding hands. No,
that's you can use one hand to open the door.
That's how it happens. When you go to open the door.
You cannot hold hands for a second to open the door.
And by the way, I was recently at a park

(01:17:44):
and I'm I almost texted you. I saw a couple
holding hands for a long time on the walk on
the walk path. The dude had one arm. He had
one arm and he was walking with his lady holding hands.
The one arm man can hold his lady's hand, but
you can't. I can hold a hand, it's not for

(01:18:05):
a long period of time. Okay, two minutes. I thought
of you immediately. I was like, this one armed man
is holding his lady's hand, and that kid, bet Thomas
has two arms? A kid?

Speaker 7 (01:18:15):
Do it?

Speaker 2 (01:18:15):
Do you just have clammy hands?

Speaker 4 (01:18:17):
Is that.

Speaker 2 (01:18:19):
Heavy hand sweater? No, start getting moist. No, it's just
it's just the average person has an issue just walking
in Unison for that length length of time. Okay, you
and I will not hold hands anytime, no ever. Okay,
but if we're walking towards somewhere, are we walking in
Unison exactly the same? So yeah, it's very It's like

(01:18:44):
an Indy car race, one back Indy car race? What
are you running?

Speaker 4 (01:18:49):
Sync?

Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
What's going on that?

Speaker 1 (01:18:51):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:18:51):
You're so wrong. I just don't get you. You shouldn't.
I got issues. I'm just saying that the average I
would say, the average Matt and Kim Thomas handwalk is
probably about two hundred yards. Is she more of like
an armholder? Like you know, like no, no, you can't
even do that. You don't even know, arm in arm

(01:19:14):
unless you do the unless you got an arm around,
put an arm around. No, I'm saying like she us
like she's got her arm around you. Yeah, that's nice.
You feel like a man. Don't you know the last
time you go arm in arms when you do in
the Aggie war chant. No, not like that. So Varsities
holds off. James might have been right, man, James. Why

(01:19:38):
did you cut James off? I thought he had another point.
He hung up on hissel. Yeah, I'm not hanging up
on said Texas Tech smack. So police James with Texas
Tech smack. And I don't know. I think he's a
cougar though, Yeah right, I don't know. Yeah, he was
trying to talk mess to tech. You know what, can
I get some Houston smack in here on this show? Sure?

(01:19:58):
I want to hear. I want to hear a good
Texas tech joke right now, and then, you know, because
we're fair and balanced here, I want to hear a
good Houston joke from a Texas tech fan. Let's go.
I'm ready to bring it. I got zero joke. Your
program's already The joke.

Speaker 4 (01:20:16):
Is that?

Speaker 2 (01:20:16):
Is that your best attempt at material I mean it
was the best wolf came up with it. Can let
me ask all this serious question. Can y'all beat that?

Speaker 1 (01:20:28):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:20:30):
Seven? Seven? And if you're a Red Raider, bring your
Houston smack. And if you're a Roth, if you're a
wait for Friday for this. Yeah, it's fine, Okay, light week,
Friday got a busy show. We got Nestor and he
hates everything. You know, belt Nestor from Baltimore, A Parisio
Apparacio whose uncle twice removed is uh lewis cousin when

(01:20:51):
my dad was first cousin with Luis Aparicio. All right,
Ray is whether it's on seven on the hitdle Ray.

Speaker 11 (01:20:58):
What I'm just here is why people will agree with
me that Crumber deserves eight years two hundred and forty.
I'm trying to explain it to people. And I would
like him to get that million, almost a quarter of
a billion to Rumber. And this guy will to show progress,

(01:21:18):
he will do good. I just would like Fromber to
get locked in eight years two hundred and forty.

Speaker 2 (01:21:25):
Yeah, that's not going to happen. Yeah, all of baseball
just wait till the deal comes out. All of baseball
is going to disagree with you. Is not getting thirty teams.
He is not getting an eight year deal. Trust me
on this. I don't know contracts very well, but I
know that one all thirty baseball teams have said, ain't
nobody get time.

Speaker 7 (01:21:40):
For that.

Speaker 11 (01:21:42):
Is Jim Crane's cash, you know. So Jim Crane may
see light at the end of the tunnel where's no chance,
and he may he may do that, Guys, obviously I
don't want to do that. I'm trying to Jim Crank
twenty get fromber At a dollar to come back, but
he needs to get at that eight years two.

Speaker 2 (01:22:03):
Ray you you gotta stop drinking the Atlantic Ocean water.
It's just not It's not going to be your figure benefit.
Is that Galveston water? No, he lives in Miami. I'm
thinking you're on that side of the right.

Speaker 5 (01:22:14):
Matt.

Speaker 11 (01:22:14):
Matt, if you're going to have us to me and
my coworkers following you, you have to respond to us.

Speaker 13 (01:22:20):
Matt.

Speaker 2 (01:22:20):
What did you? What did you? What are you? I
don't even know what your count is. What do you respond?

Speaker 4 (01:22:24):
What do you?

Speaker 2 (01:22:24):
Maybe you don't follow. Matt doesn't respond to people who
don't follow, except for the follow sports and t.

Speaker 5 (01:22:29):
Oh yeah when you get every one too, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:22:32):
Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. Because they like to talk.

Speaker 11 (01:22:35):
You know, they like the dolphin talk you mentioned sometimes,
and you know the Dolphins.

Speaker 2 (01:22:40):
I don't think I talk dolphins. Do I talk enough
Dolphins in the show Your Big Dolphins? Uh? They were
number one in the Rotten five, but now they won,
so I don't know. They might be out of the
Rotten five. So that's good. Yeah, Tennessee Titans might be
the worst team in football. We oh yeah, I know
a drop I can play on the Rotten five for
the Titans. But oh yes, do we get a cleaner

(01:23:03):
feet of that? By the way, I'm gonna find one
right now?

Speaker 5 (01:23:05):
All right?

Speaker 2 (01:23:06):
Is it run five today? Fifty? Thanks for looking at
the show?

Speaker 4 (01:23:10):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:23:13):
Do I send out every Sunday Jonathan email the listening
what we're doing for the show. Do I pre show
tweet it and include Ross on the tweet? This is
at sports RV. Is the Ross I can help you
on this one, man, Yeah, you cannot. Third hour Matt
Thomas showed Ross next on seven ninety.

Speaker 7 (01:23:29):
Is the Matt.

Speaker 2 (01:23:30):
Thomas Show with Ross twelve O three on Sports Talk
seven ninety. It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross
As we do every single day in this spot, Ross,
we present to you ladies and gentlemen, the News at noon. Rossie,

(01:23:55):
what do we have on the full plate? Oh and
by the way, I could not be more prepared take
your time on this? Oh my god, he never you
know what. Some things are better left Captain House. All right, yes,
I am extremely over prepared for the News at noon.

(01:24:18):
Here on Sportstock seven ninety Matt, we got playoff baseball
action as three series. We'll go to the decisive game
number three, Tigers and Guardians two o'clock Cleveland's sight favorites,
and that one Padres and Cubs effectively a toss up.
And then the Red Sox and the Yankees as seven PM.

(01:24:39):
Yankees at a minus one sixty five. Your thoughts on
Cam Schlitzler, Remember you guys said that slowly taking on
Connolly early and early and Schlitzler no early, Nope, that's

(01:25:03):
the male match. No, no, no, no no, Because there's
all sorts of phrases you could attach to this that
would get me in trouble. So I'm not You know
what silent like in Twitter? Sometimes silence and Golden. I
hope it can ever want to be an early schlittler. Well,
I mean somebody would say, who gives us schlittler? Okay, anyways, Matt,
those are the do Okay, I want you to pick

(01:25:25):
three winners for the three series. I'm going Guardians, okay, Cubs,
Red Sox Tigers, Red Sox Cubs. Hmm, well, we'll see
what happens. Those teams will be moving on to the
A L d S and N l DS respectively. Dodgers

(01:25:46):
already punching their ticket as they beat the Reds eight
to four in that game.

Speaker 7 (01:25:52):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:25:52):
Elsewhere in the NFL, we have discussed the Texans going
up against the Ravens, and there are a lot of
people on that Ravens injury reports. Chief among them would
be mister Lamar Jackson's looking like he is not going
to be able to play in the game this weekend
as he is dealing with his hamstring injury. He was

(01:26:15):
a d NP yesterday. You also have a number of
players on that list, including Kyle Hamilton, Marlon Humphrey, Patrick Ricard,
Rokwan Smith, Ronnie Stanley, Kyle Van Noy. I mean it
is a laundry list. Of players on the injury report
for the Baltimore Ravens for the weekend clash with the Astros,

(01:26:38):
with the Texans and the Ravens, and it's very nice
that Dimiko's like, we're preparing for you the quarterback. You
don't have to worry about Lamar he playing. I don't
think you would. Even though Ian Rappaport tried to walk
it back and be like, what happens, like I wanted
to get some more clicks since I'm going to not

(01:26:58):
give credit to somebody else. It felt like somebody from
the Ravens wanted to walk back the report from the
Baltimore Suns to try for gamesmanship and trying to keep
the Texans on their toes. I just don't think, no,
that's gonna happen. Yep, all right elsewhere more injuries in
the NFL. A Jaguars Trevon Walker has a wrist surgery,
but he still could play against Chiefs as the Jaguars

(01:27:22):
are surprising right now in the AFC South. We called
it a must win game against the Jaguars and it
looked like the Jaguars are really bad. But they're three
and one right now. Man, how are we feeling about
this AFC South frankly could have been four and oh
if they would not have gave that game away at Cincinnati, correct,
you could have a four ton oh Jackuars squad. I

(01:27:43):
did actually watch quite a bit of that Jacksonville game
with Sanpranisco. I still don't think Jacksonville's is very good.
I am way more impressed with Indianapolis and Indianapolis. They
literally gave that to game away with the what's the
game al? What's his name? Aj Al? What's your former
Texas receiver? Add Donna a Donna Mitchell, Yeah, Ady Mitchell,

(01:28:03):
Adie Mitchell, callin eighty for short. That should have been
a Indianapolis win. I've watched Indianapolis and Jacksonville, especially red zone.
I'm more impressed with the Colts, Jaguars, Franklin, Luckey, Trevor
Lawrence still bad quarterback, all right, Matt. Elsewhere in the news,
Jonathan Kaminga had been sitting out in a stalemate with

(01:28:25):
the Golden State Warriors. He signed a two year deal
with him and will join the team in practice on Thursday.
Jonathan mcaminga beck in the fold of the Golden State
Warriors as they're basically trying to along with Jimmy Butler,
Dreamond Green and Steph Curry. Who has the older roster
probably the Clippers. Do you see who the Warriors also signed?

(01:28:47):
Who do they also sign in Curry? That's Seth Curry
and Steph Curry. I believe Seth Curry has better lifetime
three point percentages than Steph, but Steph more of a
primary ball handler. Correct. You always have to contextualize numbers. Man,
numbers don't mean what they call me the contextualizer that
they do. All right? Now, time my turn inherent that

(01:29:07):
he was from New Okay, go ahead. US News and
World Report. Oh, here we go, twenty twenty five college rankings.
These are public. These are all schools private and public together. Okay,
coming in at number sixteen among the big twelve schools
West Virginia two hundred and twenty two. That sounds right.

(01:29:29):
Do they even have classrooms? This is where the insults
just start. What's their favorite? Major? Wood? Whitland, Texas Tech
at Oklahoma State are tied for one or ninety eighth.
Oh who I'm sorry? Who Tech at Oklahoma State Tech
is that bad?

Speaker 5 (01:29:46):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:29:46):
I think it's been in the two hundreds I'm not kidding.
So they're climbing up. Good for them. Kansas eight in
Cincinnati are tied for one fifty eighth. I want to
go look at the SEC schools. By the way, we'll
do this event. But I just saw the Big Twelve. First.
This is among public schools or among all schools, every
school this is private and public together. Okay, Well, Utah

(01:30:07):
one fifty one, Kansas one forty three, University of Houston
coming in at one hundred and thirty two. Now, these rankings.
Everybody when they when they see their rankings, they always
get mad about how they are decided on whatever. And
everybody has arguabent that this is just one metric us

(01:30:31):
arras at a point, Arizona one hundred and twenty seventh,
Arizona State, U c F and I always say, are
all tied for one hundred and seventeenths Jesus b YU
one hundred and tenth, Colorado and TCU are tied at
ninety seven. Baylor the highest ranked school in the Big
twelve academically and eighty eighth in the country. So what

(01:30:56):
begs the question? Rossie? And we do like to beg
questions here on the show. You know, the TCU and
Baylor are astronomically expensive. I'm talking seventy five eighty ninety
thousand dollars a year for I know for TCU, and
I don't think Baylor's that much far behind. Could you
imagine paying three hundred and sixty thousand dollars over a
four year time to have your daughter or son go

(01:31:19):
to the ninety seventh rank school in the country. That
seems pretty high. So why is there Why is TCU
so damn expensive? Yet you're making You're tied for Colorado
as state school at ninety seventh. That is very competitive, Matt.
It's difficult, is that what it is? Sure went up
all right? Rice number seventeen, by the way, Rhode Island

(01:31:43):
I think came in thirty one or thirty four. Rice
is seventeenth, just behind cal Berkeley. Really, cal Berkeley always
feels like to me, that's they're always like in the
top twenty year in year out. North Carolina. I think
Texas also very high in the list. Probably, So we
will do what we'll come back from the breaking. We're
gonna give you the college the SEC rankings. Okay, well,

(01:32:09):
they're trying to make me sign up for their newsletter. No, no, no, no, no,
we can't have time for that. Okay, all right, so
is line to the guy's name is Harold, but that's
but that'd be h A R O L D. Right,
Harold looks like is it Gerald? You haven't spelled h
E R Harold Ben Harold Harold minor? No, Harold is

(01:32:32):
that was not that was not a bad effort, not
bad made good especial. All right, let's go to the news. Harold,
you have a Texas Tech joke or a Houston joke.
What do you go? What are you about to tell
our audience Texas Texas Tech?

Speaker 3 (01:32:49):
Okay, how come Jesus wasn't born in Texas Tech?

Speaker 2 (01:32:56):
How come Jesus because he's born in Nazareth?

Speaker 3 (01:33:00):
Go ahead, they couldn't find three wise men or a virgin?

Speaker 2 (01:33:09):
Hmm okay, that's that's the early bar. It wasn't that bad, hey, Jonathan,
Let's ask cam Ward how that was? I got I
have it up. Yeah, give us time. We gotta get
it better. We gotta get a better. Okay, here's gonna do.

(01:33:32):
Can can you, as a Texas Tech fan out there,
beat that joke? Can you use a Houston fan improve
on that. You know, sometimes you ask for help from
the audience and this is what happens. Yeah, a lot
of times y'all come through, and we appreciate you. Sometimes
it's my fault, though I wasn't gonna blame anyone else.
You should twelve thirteen, It's a Matt Thomas Show at

(01:33:53):
ross seven one three two one two five seven Nintie.
Our attempted humor has failed miserably unless you can come through.
Would won three two one two five seven ninety Welcome
back to the Matt Thomas Show with Roth with Janitor
Thomas on the scene over here, what do you do now?
We had some food, Ok, we had some lunch. You

(01:34:17):
know what, Maybe I should just leave you alone. No,
Matt spills me.

Speaker 4 (01:34:22):
I know, we ass, I mean we keep.

Speaker 2 (01:34:25):
There you go. Matt spilled food all of the floor
in here. Yeah, I think I got Let me try
this one.

Speaker 4 (01:34:31):
I mean, we're keeping a book right now, we ass.
I mean we're keeping a book right now. We ass.

Speaker 2 (01:34:35):
Yeah, here we go and I forgot it all right,
totally my fault. But I've dropped the food and it
hit the side of the waste basket and then it's spilled. O. God,
there's rice everywhere. I don't make it easier for my
for my life or my comfort coworkers for the next

(01:35:00):
hour and forty minutes cleaning it up, I hope. So
put some water on it. I'll do whatever I can.
I want to. You know my fall, you gotta you
gotta take you gotta take take ownership of it.

Speaker 3 (01:35:13):
God.

Speaker 2 (01:35:14):
Okay, real quick, we did the Big twelve academic rankings.
Now again, this is all very not not speculative, but
it's it's it's a subjective, yes, but generally, if you're
ranked two hundred, it's not like you're who you should
be up there with Harvard. Okay, So, of the sixteen
schools that are worse academically, which one do you think

(01:35:36):
is the worst? And this is probably this is a
layup for you, worse than the SEC Mississippi State, that
is correct?

Speaker 8 (01:35:42):
Yes, at two eight two eight, Yeah, that's like SFA level.
Thank you SFA for you helping him with his undefeated seas.

Speaker 2 (01:35:55):
Right, Arkansas one eighty three, Oh, Miss one sixty nine,
LSU won sixty nine, Alabama won sixty nine. No surprisenty
of those three either? Can I guess who the highest
is you get Vanderbilt right, correct? Where are they seventeen?

(01:36:16):
Ooh seventeen? They must be tied with Rice, because I
thought I saw Rice itself the biggest shocker of them all.
There's a tie for second. Okay, you get would I
like to guess?

Speaker 1 (01:36:32):
Uh not?

Speaker 2 (01:36:34):
LSU? You got no.

Speaker 1 (01:36:38):
H.

Speaker 2 (01:36:38):
Texas and Texas A and M. Texas is number thirty
A and M is number fifty one, tied for second
among SEC schools and the college rankings according to the
Best US Miss Florida. Oh well, I am astonished by that.

(01:36:59):
Auburn and Zouri or at one oh two, Tennessee one
oh two as well, Oklahoma at won ten, South Carolina
one twenty seven, Kentucky one forty three. I thought Kentucky
might be higher. Now here's what I don't know which
I got. You got to figure out? Do we? How?
What do they decide? Is this about entrances? Is this graduates?

Speaker 4 (01:37:20):
How do how?

Speaker 2 (01:37:21):
Does this seems like a really broad study to try
to dissect three hundred schools or whatever the case is.
Sure they have I'm sure they've published their methodology. Yeah,
it wouldn't be hard to figure out. But point being
is the whatever US News spent their time on. That's
they've come up with. Mm hmm. Now some sometimes they
break them up into public and private schools, and then

(01:37:42):
sometimes they put all these schools together. And that's what
the US News and World Report did on this one
particular study. So there you go. Okay, all right, So
that's uh, that's your update on how well your money
is going. And you know who you know who cares
about these rankings. None of these schools unless you're like
in the top forty one. I think something they can't too.
They they care to an extent. Do you think the

(01:38:02):
University of Alabama really cares the US News e Ral
Report name in one hundred and sixty ninth bist school
in the country. If their president probably does. They're president
looking at the full Bryant Denny Stadium. I think they care.
I would think they don't care as much as you
may think they do because of what they'll do is
again what you would say is, well, what are your requirements,

(01:38:25):
how do you see things? And what do you judges
successful and not successful? Okay, ranking criteria, graduation rates, first
year of retention rates, graduation rate, performance hell graduation rates.
That's people get pelgrants. I guess HM, pure assessment is
twenty percent of it. That's pretty high. Faculty salaries, standardized tests,

(01:38:49):
standardized tests, citations for publication, it's all. They're all valid reasons.
There's something goofy. Publications share in the top twenty five
percent of journals. So if they're publishing good papers that
are getting recognized. But the reality is this, and I'll
use the University of Houston as a small example. The
University of Houston goes to the final four last year, plays
a NATIONALIP championship game. The amount of people that were

(01:39:12):
trying to get into the University of Houston had a
massive uptick. Yes, it goes up at Butler. Butler had
a huge uptick when they were going to final fours
and stuff like that. Put it this way, twenty five
years ago, when Alabama football was crud, didnybody wanted to
go to the University of Alabama non in a big way? Yeah? Yeah.
So while again Johnny Manziel did huge things for Texas,

(01:39:32):
he certainly did. Kevin someone not so much. Well, he
made his cash. Jimbo Fisher not so much. He made
his cash. Do you think Jimbo Fisher has any regrets. No,
what is he doing? Is he on TV?

Speaker 5 (01:39:46):
Now?

Speaker 2 (01:39:46):
I don't know what he's doing. I've not seen him now.
He was always an ACC guy. I wonder if he's work.
Is he working for the ACC network? I've not seen him.
I think he'd be a SEC network. Yeah, that's one. No,
I'm saying, is he working for them? It's that how
much is that paying them? Coming up next, a deep
breakdown of Wake Forest versus Syracuse football. Oh gross, that's

(01:40:10):
why Flora Hitts gott in Clemson. I got out of
that league. Bad league, man. Miami's all right, Duke. No,
North Carolina State, what are you speaking of? A fine
North Carolina? Bill Belichick over at UNC, how are they doing?
They're barely beating North Carolina directional schools. They got wins

(01:40:33):
against Charlotte and East Carolina or something. I don't even
huge Yeah, huge wins. Okay, speaking college real quick before
we get onto back onto the most important news story
of today, which is we're still trying to figure that out.
Two and a half hours in baseball playoffs, Well, oh,
North Carolina just lost to UCF thirty four to nine.
Ooh good, Yeah, they only have two wins over Charlotte

(01:40:58):
and the Richmond Spider. Yeah, just like I said, directional
North Carolina schools. So they crushed Richmond and Charlotte and
they got crushed by TCU and UCF once the next up. Ooh, well,
that's that's a must win for Clemson. Oh all right,
maybe not point bing is this?

Speaker 6 (01:41:17):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (01:41:18):
Was like? Oh, the NCAA tournament maybe expanded by another
additional twelve teams? What they said they just I thought
they just said they weren't going to expand it threes
reporting else otherwise what mmm? Oh dear, they're thinking about
adding a second some additional rounds and doing them at
two different sites. Stupid, Well me ask twelve extra teams.

(01:41:46):
Let me ask you this. There are how many playing
Division I basketball, give or take bob about three hundred
and fifty. Yes, So if you get it to seventy
two whatever, is that the worst thing in the world? Yes,
you think so. I think there's sixty eight teams right
now who who have a claim to being the best
team in the country and it should be in a
tournament for the national championship. Yeah, they're they're gonna go.

(01:42:09):
They're looking to go to seventy six. Honestly, it shouldn't
be bored than thirty two. What's up? Oh, you are
such a fool. They're only doing it for money. Yeah,
but everything's driven for money. And I'm telling you, I mean,
it's ridiculous that that that the college football is expanded
to twelve I don't know, or sixteen. I'm sorry, it

(01:42:30):
was like sixteen. I could be outrage at seventy six,
but I can't. I know it's coming, it's gonna happen.
It's all for money. So all the prestige and the
fun and all the thrill of victory, now it's for money.
It's all for money cash, straight cat. They're talking about
a seventy six team tournament with a twelve game opening
around played two sites. Starts it in starting in twenty

(01:42:51):
twenty six, twenty seven. That's what I want to know.
When does it end? You're gonna get one hundred teams
in there eventually, When does it stop? I just don't
get it. Yeah, sure, because we talk about a lot
of people.

Speaker 8 (01:43:02):
Are against an il right and making it amateur sports
or whatever, but they don't look at these people, rather
saying making it more schedule, more on these players more
if it is doing athletes for more money, but they're
not receiving anything. A lot of people, but now they are,
people are still upset with it, and I just don't

(01:43:23):
get that.

Speaker 2 (01:43:23):
Well, what are they getting. They're getting twenty point five
million dollars. Those schools can give as much as twenty
point five million dollars and primarily most of that's going
to the football squads. Every school gets that. Every school
that agreed to this back pay get out of the
lawsuit kind of thing. See, that's why they're doing it.
That's the only reason they're doing it, because they're getting

(01:43:44):
sued out of the ass Now, I think there's only
about a handful of schools that do not adhere to that.
Just because you can give twenty point five million doesn't
mean you have to give twenty point five I had
another thing to you for you, like, So if you're
like Louisiana Monroe, maybe you're only allocating four teen million dollars.
But every school that can possibly pay twenty point five

(01:44:04):
which would be all your power forwards for sure, can
give twenty point five million dollars, and you can disperse
it the way that you want to. You can give
it to This is still amateur athletics or what's happening. No,
it's not amateurm they're geting, they're getting checks. Yeah, that's
what I'm saying. Like, now, don't even use amateur. Don't
even use the amateur. And then that so that money
is separate from nil. That is completely separate from nil. Okay,

(01:44:27):
Let's say a team plays in a conference championship game
in three or four playoff games. Shouldn't they get playoff shares?
In professional sports, you get playoff shares. Point, you're getting
all these extra money to play these extra games. They're
these football players are putting their bodies on the line
for extra weeks and practices and all that type of stuff.
Are they getting extra playoff money? Coaches get bonuses. Coach

(01:44:49):
gets a bonus when he makes the playoffs. Coach gets
a bonus when he makes the final four? Right, what
about players? Can I just give you this answer? It's
probably coming in due time, Okay, I don't think there
are I don't think they're saying we're never gonna do it,
because hell they weren't. We They're not even saying we're
never gonna pay these athletes again. They're gonna they're paying
them now. So I think this is by the way

(01:45:10):
that twenty point five moves up every single year, So
there's there's it's not gonna be stuck at twenty point
five million dollars. I think it goes up a couple
of million dollars every year for the foreseeable future. Look,
if you're a college athlete, you're playing a high end university,
you're going to get paid, especially if you're a football player.
If your a football player, you're definitely getting paid. Basketball

(01:45:31):
you're gonna do. Okay, if your golfer, you're a tennis player,
Baseball probably not. And women's sports are probably getting nothing
at all. But again it's it's it's a direct result
of what brings the money in, and college lacrosse does
not bring the money in that a college football game
will bring in. Yeah, that's fair. So it's it's what

(01:45:51):
we're doing now in today's world. Those those that bring
the money in, we'll get the money. Michael Berry brings
a lot of money in and we let hey, we
were at blank checks and you and I hang out
for four hours a day trying to entertain a few people,
and you know, we're driving vers. You went a little
mac brown there again. Yeah, I gotta stop doing it.
And we're taking our checks and we're gonna do our
with everything we can intend to do. You're on Sports

(01:46:14):

Speaker 7 (01:46:53):

Speaker 2 (01:46:54):

skip the Willie Fritz segment. I mean, I'm gonna do
the Willie Fritz segment. Skipped cleaning up, I'm gona keeping okay, good, yeah, yeah,
keep on plugging, Maddie. If I if I make mistakes,
I gotta correct him. That's uh well, it's a new you.
I'm proud of you. Thanks you is great. I just

(01:47:15):
cleaning crew creen and now I'm gonna do it. I'm
gonna do myself. Thank you very much. All right your
mother would be proud. Yeah, uh so you. Uh, we're
gotta do a We got the Rotten five coming up
in fifteen minutes. Yes, we've got a deep dive in
the Texans Ravens game at one o'clock. You want to
do that? Yes, okay, because people we were looking for
textans talk. We gotta give it to him, that's true.

(01:47:36):
Breaking it down like a mutter. We're gonna go twelve
solid minutes at one to one twelve serious, I mean,
film study. Whatever we gotta do. You're gonna be breaking
down the film. No man, all twenty two, Thomas, you
should let's go to uh Mark on seven ninty Mark.
Good afternoon to you, Mark.

Speaker 6 (01:48:00):
Mark.

Speaker 2 (01:48:03):
You've only called five times? What's going on with your phone?
We just figured this out. Mark, Mark, it's a good talk.
Appreciate you.

Speaker 7 (01:48:10):
Mark.

Speaker 2 (01:48:11):
You spent ten minutes talking to Jonathan on his phone line.

Speaker 8 (01:48:14):
Well, the question he had was that he wanted to
know what the highest rating for athletes were compared to
the lowest.

Speaker 2 (01:48:21):
Oh, really what rating? What rating? Graduation rate? The graduation
rating like out of the athletes. Okay, Mark, there's something
called Google. Knock it out. Let's go. Now we can
do an ass ben t. But that would be something
I would that'd be outside of my normal uh framework
of knowledge. Might not be able to find that either
Bitley University Division two in a graduation rate lowest, Oh,

(01:48:43):
looks like SFA in Western Kentucky right there. One might
able to gun violence. I don't know. They got bulletproof
glass on everything around there where you have h yeah,
near the campus. You'd like it if my cousin go
to you bad so I can't talk too much. See
she's a guy or girl? Ye see okay, yeah, you can't.

(01:49:05):
Don't hurt you work with somebody. You live in the
city of a thriving institution. Don't don't take needless shots.
I missed the old instant replay where I had the
gunshot button. Back of the day. People used to get
really mad at me on that one. Oh, we still
hate you. That's why.

Speaker 4 (01:49:20):
I mean, we're keeping a book right now.

Speaker 2 (01:49:22):
We ask thanks cam See, we'll be hearing from cam
Ward in the next segment. Okay, huh.

Speaker 12 (01:49:34):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:49:34):
Division one graduation rates at ninety one percent, says n
CUABLEA called yes on that. Wait minute, ninety percent of
the athletes that go to school graduate. There's no chance,
no way, know how that's accurate. I would agree with
that one. I would say nine point one percent would
be a closer number. Well, talk about it. How many
how many NBA players even graduate? Well, this counts every school. Oh, well,

(01:49:56):
you know what they're doing. They're throwing tennis in the mix.
I mean only about thirty players a drafted or I guess, yeah,
no graduating. No, there's even if you are, if you're
throwing cross country tennis, baseball and baseball. I mean, yeah, no,
there's no way. Ninety one percent. That's that seems way
way too high. Everybody's staying longer. You get more eligibility.

(01:50:17):
They do give you a longer grace period, though I
will say that they don't. They give you like six
or seven years to get your degree. Basically.

Speaker 8 (01:50:25):
Yeah, and there's uh, you know the people that help
like advisors and stuff, or mean the people.

Speaker 2 (01:50:30):
That write the papers. Yes, yes, we had issues like
that back in the day too, So you got dinked
for that douaa infractions.

Speaker 1 (01:50:39):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (01:50:39):
By the way, when I was in Minnesota, they uh,
they they've always made fun of Minnesota because they had
a tutor that roll all the papers for the Minnesota
team that went to the Final four. All the Minnesota
fans like, I don't care. We got on the final four.
Oh we get the we got our Final four. Scrubbed
away our record, nobody. You can scrub all you want to.
If you were there and you were a part of it,
you enjoyed the experience. The Golden Gophers. That's one of

(01:51:00):
the great mascot names. I think NFBS one of the
rare schools that are in that are in a major
metropolitan city that the college teams actually actually care care. Yeah. Yeah,
that's because they're inside. They got to watch something too
cold outside. Well, they're a stadium, their football teams outdoors.
Why do they do that?

Speaker 4 (01:51:18):
And money?

Speaker 2 (01:51:20):
You ever noticed that that stadiums that have domes. Usually
cost college in a dome. They I mean they play.
I guess they can play in dome stadiums, but not
that they're just their owns, their own stadium. I can
think of one. Oh, Syracuse, Syracuse, carry your dome. Yeah,
well it's called something else, something else. Now it's funny.
It was called the Rarier Dome dome and Rarerier was

(01:51:40):
the air conditioning company. I'm more of a diking guy.
And it isn't Americ conditioning in the building or heat.

Speaker 7 (01:51:47):
Well did that?

Speaker 2 (01:51:47):
I might never have been that have heat? I would
think so Syracuse, New York. Although if you got thirty
five thousand warm blooded Syracuse fans there, what's the reverse way? Right,
dyke in doesn't have heat? That's exactly right. We've been
to some aster lunch were like having to bring a
heavy coat in there. Fan fest every year. Ye when
I'm interviewed in Justin Verlander, you know, we seem to
drop that in. I had a chance interviewed justin Verland twice.

(01:52:11):
Never been associate him. Also other guys too, Stray Hayden
wasn't esky good Cory jokes. If there's a metal reliever.
We've had them. Yes, it's all good. We've had We've
had some good ones over the years. So okay, the
graduation rates looking good. Congratulations to the n C Double A.

Speaker 6 (01:52:34):
What is it?

Speaker 2 (01:52:34):
What do you think the college basketball graduation rate is?
I would say it's fifty. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
There's three hundred fifty schools. How many of there's thirty
getting drafted every year? That if you're talking about underclassmen
getting drafted, and these days you can enter and come
back right with an agent, right right. I don't know.

(01:52:55):
It's so hard to say because of my guessing is
that Wisconsin Green Bay kids are graduating from college hurting
the graduation rates. Kevin Dry Yeah, but he does he
he does contribute to. University of Texas have guys who
don't even go to school anymore. Right, the G League,
while G League Knight's done done right? Yeah, but you
had the was the overtime elite, That's what I mean.
Thompson went to you could. Yeah, you can also play

(01:53:16):
overseas for a year if you want. Some guys are
opting for that as well. International in IL money, though,
I think guys are going going back to college isn't
it crazy in just the time that we've been on
doing the show, how the college landscape has completed. It didn't,
It didn't subtly come into play. It went full throttle.
And I still keep waiting for you to tell me

(01:53:37):
because you've told me this, and I do believe you
that things are going to even out. If there has
been voter fatigue, it's been. It's not a school by
school basis. Every school isn't poning out the same ponying
up the same money that they have and them poning
up all that money for all those five stars, and
the money went down and then it came back up.
I think there were there will be some donor fatigue.

(01:53:57):
Cody Campbells having any donating donort. Fritiga a tech to
we'll get if if they keep losing, you can think
he's gonna keep spending the exact same amount of money
year after year on the program. I would say no.
But it's funny because there are some schools that are
you would think would be cash flush, that are basically
asking for more money. Well, you need billionaires, Yeah, Alabama

(01:54:18):
needs a billionaire. I'm sure they have some billionaires. The
one that kind of threw me off was Arkansas. It
needs a billionaire and the Walmart group is in that
same town. Yeah, we don't care that much about the Razorbacks.
Been in football and football is like the nineties. Yeah,
like yeah, basketball, they've basketball. They were really good. Yeah,
forty minutes a hell with was the name Noel Richardson. Yeah. Uh,

(01:54:41):
they won a championship and I went to I think
they win one or two. They won at least a
basketball championship and went to a couple other fives say
Arkansas has been a regular basketball was good last year. Yeah,
but man, you the schools that you would think just
because they're in the power conferences doesn't necessarily mean they're
getting power donations. Yeah, and again that doesn't guarantee you anything. Nope.

(01:55:03):
Aggie has been pouring millions and millions and millions every
year and they're going to the Music City Bowl. We'll
see what happens this year. You you of aged versus
A and M and the Texas Bowl, Sure, why not
Energy Stadium? I would say the Aggies have higher aspirations
than that, but a lot of time they fo After

(01:55:24):
we beat tex attack on Saturday, Texas A and M
four and oh number six in the country. Well then
maybe their money is coming finally coming into play. Now, yeah,
we'll see. There's just there's I don't think we're going
to see top ten schools anymore ROSSI that do not
have serious cash influx put into play. The state goes

(01:55:45):
from two to ten to being a top ten team.
Now that that didn't happen because all of a sudden,
the coaches got smarter, the players grew and ensured they
went to the they went to the portal and said,
we're gonna cash whip some squads. Yeah, unless you have
like a you know, Boise State with a great back
like Ashton genty and they're they're beating up on you know,
Mountain West or whatever. Right, all right, Uh, it takes

(01:56:06):
absolutely no ability whatsoever to tell you who the five
best teams are in the NFL. But it gives you
some time to reflect on who are the five worst
and the man that gives us that as a man
who's considered one of the five worst and a lot
of things, but not the rotten five. It's all coming
up next here. We got Woodie Fritz coming up at
one thirty, and what is today's edition to believe or not. Ross,
Jane Goodhealth, I know Jane good old Jane Goodall. May

(01:56:28):
she rest? Yes, a chimp lady. Yes, that's what she
would be. It just feels word even just saying it.
That's what her autobigiography was called, The chimp Lady. Okay,
maybe it wasn't. I don't think so. By the way,
some Dan and Matthews of Texas. Why isn't Jerry Jones
pointing up at Arkansas? Does he not give cash?

Speaker 3 (01:56:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:56:48):
He should.

Speaker 2 (01:56:50):
He's got plenty of spending's in his eighties. Got to
get rid of that money somehow, some way seven three
two one two five seven Nottty with a word right
now for the amazing folks at Uptown Appliance Repair. They've
gone back. They draw flies Witz Ross's rotted in five.

(01:57:12):
This don't smell quite right, Hi ROSSI yes, Matt Lax,
sit back and let you do your magic for is
that the five horse teams in the National Football League?
Thank you, Matt. Yes, we'll go ahead and get the

(01:57:34):
list started off with a team that was number one
on this list all year long. They finally got a win.
Now it was barely a win against the New York Jets,
but it still counts on the Ledger. Unfortunately, Tyreek Hill
with that bad, gruesome knee injury going to be out
for the season. At least Darren Waller is back and

(01:57:54):
maybe things could be looking up for the Miami Dolphins.
So they were all the board with a win. Let's
go ahead and give them the number five spot on
the Rotten Five. You're Miami Dolphins. Ah, I think I'm
having issues with and Jonathan left. No, it's not it's yeah,
it's not his fault. It's it's this my computer. Oh okay,

(01:58:17):
that's gonna shock you hair. Let me see if this
one all right? That's too loud? Did Jonathan like, I'm yeah,
he walked down. He probably shouldn't have done that in
the middle of this segment. But all right, that's okay.
Hopefully he's back very soon. He just see you. All right,

(01:58:39):
let's keep moving on the list. How about for the
first time all year long? But they've been bad, they've
earned it, they've lost three in a row. Yeah, it's
all right, we're having computer issues, but I think we're okay. Now, Jonathan,
your computer was good, but it was on, but it
was too loud. Anyways, it's okay. Three in a row

(01:58:59):
lost the Las Vegas Raiders. I mean Ashton Genty with
the breakout game, three total touchdowns, one hundred and thirty
eight yards rushing. But Gino Smith, he has just been horrible.
Six touchdowns, seven iron t's on the season for him.
You also have the Raiders going on the road against
the Colts, who have been pretty good. They do get

(01:59:19):
the Titans at home after that, but then they go
on the road against the Chiefs and then they're home
for the Jaguars. Could be a lot of losses getting
racked up, racked up for the loss Vegas Raiders, who
are the fourth worst team in the NFL. Even though
Ashton Genty had a great game, yes he did. I
brought it up and right fore, Lisa, all right. New

(01:59:41):
York Football Jets, man, they are horrible. They just lost
to the Miami Dolphins. Justin Fields came back and he
actually had some fun scrambles and played pretty well as
they didn't have to go to Tarad Taylor, but they
are still winless. Poor Aaron Glenn Nimt's legend. They have
a minus thirty point deferential. Things have not been going
well for them. Also, some bad luck with two fumbles

(02:00:02):
deep in Miami territory in that game. Now they're home
for three straight. But it is the Cowboys, Broncos, and Panthers.
What is going on with the Jets. They're piling up
the losses. They are the third worst team in the NFL.
They can't stopping Noble all right, moving along, They've been
on this list all year long, and they hell might

(02:00:22):
continue to be on this list for quite some time.
I'm talking about the New Orleans Football Saints. Now, it
was a better effort against the Bills. They actually got
close to actually getting a win. And we know that
the Bills are one of the best teams in football,
but the Saints are still one of three winless teams
in football. Spencer Rattler, how about this as a starter

(02:00:43):
oh and ten in his NFL career. They still lost
by twelve to the Bills. They do have the Giants
coming up taking Gone Jackson Dart at home and the
Patriots after that, so they gotta be dogs in both
those games. But they are winnable. But right now, Saints
are terrible. They're the second team in the NFL. Believe it, Yeah,
they'll sick the head up though, crawl Fish. Yeah, thank you, Gordy.

(02:01:06):
All right, I always want them to stay in the
entire season. We can hear that once a week. I
am totally with you. I mean, even if I'm fifty
to fifty on them and they're like gonna be fifth
or sixth, I'm putting them fifth just so we can
play that from Chris Gordy. All Right, we have to
put this team down here because their own quarterback knows
they're not very good. Tennessee Titans getting shut out on

(02:01:27):
the road by the Houston Texans. They have lost four
games in a row. They are a winless team. Now
they do go on the road against the Cardinals and
the Raiders, both those games possibly winless. But I mean,
how happless did that offense look for them? They did
go up against a very good Texans defensive unit, but
Tony Pollard couldn't get anything going cam Ward ten of

(02:01:48):
twenty six, no touchdowns and a pick. That is not
winning football for the Tennessee Titans. So all of you
are Titans fans in Houston, you can suck it. How
are we feeling about them Titans?

Speaker 4 (02:02:01):
I mean, we're keeping a book right now.

Speaker 2 (02:02:02):
We ass yes, you are. You are the worst team
in the NFL, the Tennessee Titans. Yeah, that's something you
want to play that one more time.

Speaker 4 (02:02:13):
I mean, we're keeping a book right now, we ass.

Speaker 2 (02:02:17):
If we're keeping it what a buck? A book? So
he was keeping it in a buck? Well, let me
ask you this. It's the phrase was keeping a hundred
Oh look at this guy. And then we justist, we
said we needed to get rid of that to try
something else. Slang evolves a mat it, does you know what? Jonathan?
You're you are pretty good on the slang on our show. Yeah,

(02:02:38):
why don't we at least once or twice a week
come up with the slang Award of the week slang
a word of the week. Yeah, okay, and you get
so you can kind of inject what you're hearing throughout
your your society, of your life and we can bring
it on the show. Like this week's slang war of
the week was keeping it a book? Now, how would

(02:02:59):
you use that in the phrase in a senate?

Speaker 7 (02:03:01):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (02:03:01):
Us that in the sentence for him first, Matt, but
keeping it in a buck? The Cougars are going to
beat Texas Tech by twelve and a half.

Speaker 4 (02:03:08):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (02:03:10):
I don't think you're keeping it a buck on that though,
as long as that to wager it, if you're keeping
it alive all up, you don't believe all that feels personal.
Maybe accurate, but that's not personal. All right, Thank you
very much for the rotten five tenant. Seriously, did you
think Tennessee ever had a chance in that game? Nope?
I mean you missed. They missed two field goals. I

(02:03:32):
mean they were not easy ones, but they were certainly
very makeable today's NFL. I kind of was thinking, like,
the Texans can't blow this, especially in the first half
when they I mean they they were getting drive sustained
and then they had to settle for field goals, right,
and then the Titans could have made a couple of
field goals that could have been a completely different game.
And the third quarter was ugly as well, and the
Texans didn't pull away to the fourth. Yeah, it was

(02:03:54):
as it was one of the worst games that the
Texans have won in a long period time. But you
know what, the good teams beat the bad ones. Even
the ugly games. Twenty six to zero can argue with
the result. And you enjoyed Beth Mowens on play play.
Oh yeah you did not. I was at the game.
It may have been a plus.

Speaker 4 (02:04:09):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:04:09):
I enjoyed Modello. Medella was doing the color combentary. Yeah
and my seat. Yeah. Okay, twelve fifty nine, we've got
Willie Fritz in a half an hour. We'll get to
the news headlines a day, which again not a whole
lot of piping things going on. We'll get the news
at one. Well, I mean, I'm saying, is there something
something we've not at the top sports news item of

(02:04:31):
the day according to ESPN right now, it is coveted.
Twenty twenty six hoops recruit commits to Yukon. Have you
been to Ukon before? No stores, Connecticut.

Speaker 4 (02:04:41):
I do not like it.

Speaker 2 (02:04:42):
He chose the Huskies over Arizona, Indiana, Maryland and Purdue.
All throw ubreads one o'clock on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 1 (02:04:49):
Ninety's The Matt Thomas Show with Ross.

Speaker 2 (02:04:58):
All Right, I'm going to uh stat steal from our
colleague Adam Wexler. I mean, he's got no likes, so
I figured that this at least we can do his
like it. So I'm gonna hit a likes. I'm gonna
give him credit for it. There's this like Ravens quarterback
Cooper Rush could make his fifteenth career start Sunday against
the Texans. I don't think it's it could be. I

(02:05:19):
think it's probably very likely, right, seems like it. He
started fourteen games so the Dallas Cowboys between twenty twenty
one and twenty twenty four. Do you think he I'm
still recovering? What from you talking about? From you? Like watching? Well?

(02:05:41):
I mean he needs we got a second one and
I did it. I gave him one.

Speaker 4 (02:05:44):
Oh that was you.

Speaker 2 (02:05:44):
So it's me and you gave him the two likes
at least three. Now, good for him. Go like it, Johnathan,
Go like his tweet so he feels like he did
something worthwhile. There Bes and Hills, We're I'm trying to
tell likes here. Look, I'm giving a retweet.

Speaker 4 (02:05:58):
What's up?

Speaker 2 (02:05:59):
Oh? Look at you know points? I'll go the extra
mind you know what, I'm gonna retweet it too. Three posts?

Speaker 4 (02:06:04):
Beat you to it already, Sucker, were keeping a book
right now?

Speaker 2 (02:06:10):
We asked, Yeah, okay, this show's asked today. Honestly, that's
not true. Fourteen games from the Cowboys between twenty twenty
one to twenty twenty four. In those fifty fourteen games,
he went nine and five Wow, sixty percent completion percentage,
which is just okay, two and fifty eight yards two
and eleven yards. It's not great. Per game. Eighteen touchdowns,

(02:06:33):
eight interceptions and eighty five point four passer rating. That's
not great. Eleven fumbles, four of them for lost. He's
been sacked twenty one times. He saw the Texans last
year in that game in Dallas and he was sacked
five times in that game. He's a backup quarterback. Yeah,
he's a backup quarterback with frankly a very much underachieving

(02:06:57):
running game. That Ravens running attack has been not very
good at all this year. And that's saying something because
they've got one of the all time greats going back
there and Derrick Henry did he he started that game
against the Cowboys last year. Yep. Remember Dak was gone
for much of the season. Yeah, Sexan's crushed him on
Monday Night. And the reality is you don't have to

(02:07:19):
score a whole lot because I don't think it's gonna
be a whole lot of scoring on the in this
game between Houston and Baltimore. So if you don't screw
it up and you're a system quarterback, you should have
some success, which would mean then it's not the end
of the world for Baltimore. Again, nobody's gonna dream of
having two quarterbacks in your team because if if you have,
you think you got two, you have none. Forty and

(02:07:41):
a half is the total just pretty low? Oh it's working, Okay,
the print is working, by the way, Oh okay, thank goodness. Yeah,
that's been fiddling with the printer and cleaning up. I've
been busy. I've been more like the you were sprinting
for the free food fleet manager here at the station.
More anything else.

Speaker 12 (02:08:03):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (02:08:04):
Absolute lowest total on the board this weekend is Brown's Vikings.
Second lowest is Texans Ravens thirty five and a half
Vikings and Daniel Hunter should just feast this week. I
don't really know the way way to say it. They're
feasts in every week. Cooper Rush does not have a

(02:08:25):
big arm. But you know what keeps you honest, Derek
Henry run game. But if it's been but if it's
been so disappointing this year, I mean he hasn't been
that bad. He's his yards per carry have been very good.
He's been fumbling the ball, yeah, but that's a big
part of it. But there yeah, but I mean that's
that can go up and down. He didn't fumble one

(02:08:45):
week one and he's fumbled. He's he's lost two fumbles
all year. How many yards does he have so far
this year? He's got two and eighty four five point
eight yards per carry. That's good. So he's got two
eighty four in four games. That's about sevent yards a game.
And you know why that numbers so loose because they've
been trilling so they've been getting yes or or they

(02:09:08):
were blowing out the you just go out there and
run Justice Hill and rest Derek Henry while they're blowing
out the Browns. So I would say i'd be I'm
still wary of the run game for them. For the Ravens.

Speaker 6 (02:09:18):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (02:09:18):
If you if you're thinking that Travis Henry has taking
a significant downturn, I think Derek, you'd be in a
very very bad spot. Travis Henry was the one he
didn't have like ten babies on with like eight different
women or something like that. By the way, do you
see did you see the meme of Tyreek Hill going
around the streets, Tyreek Hill, No, how do I explain this?

(02:09:43):
So there is a I don't know who put it
out there originally, but there are a bunch of women
in nurses outfits that are all bearing. They're impregnant. Okay,
and it says Tyreek Hill after going to the hospital. Oh,
I didn't catch that one.

Speaker 7 (02:10:02):
I mean it.

Speaker 2 (02:10:03):
It gave me a fast chuckle, but it wasn't like
a belly laugher. You know what I mean. Okay, I'll
forward it too. I want you to see it. Okay. Yeah,
I don't know. I don't know much more to say
than the Texan should win this game. This is this
is the best opportunity they've had to go to Baltimore

(02:10:23):
take on a Ravens team that is reeling. There's a
lot of injuries, there's a lot of skepticism. There's a
lot of oh my god, Lamar Jackson's out. Even though
he's not been perfect this year, Cooper Rush is only
going to give him half the arm. He's got no mobility.
He's a straight pocket passer. And the one thing that
Texans been able to do this year is get to
the quarterback on a fairly regular basis. Yeah, how it's

(02:10:47):
one of those things where you feel good coming off
the Titans game. But it's you know, I think earlier
the season maybe we shouldn't felt as bad as they did.
After the Rams loss pretty good. I'm not saying it's
a good loss, but it wasn't not embarrassing. The Jacksonville
loss hurts because again, you go to Jacksonville, it's almost
like a gimme every year. Yeah, but they're they're three
and one and they should should or could be four

(02:11:09):
to Oh and Baker Mayfield's pretty good. The run game
was really good, and the Texans didn't handle business. I mean,
you don't want to lose home games. I get that
Buccaneers are three and one in first place, Rams are
three and one, tied for first place, and that the
three teams you've lost to are three and one. Yeah. Yeah,

(02:11:30):
it's it's not a bad collection of losses. I'm still
not sold on Jacksonville, but they're better than I think
a lot of people thought they were gonna be. At
the quarterpole, yeah for sure, all right, seven one three
two one two five seven ninety. We got Willie Fritz
coming up in about twenty minutes. We'll go to the phones.
We'd come back if you want to chime in anything
you'd like to discuss, whether it be the upcoming Texans
Ravens game, whether it be about the college football slate

(02:11:53):
this weekend. As you've got the Texas Longhorns against Florida,
got the University of Houston taking on Texas Tech, and
perhaps the most would you say, Rossie, the most spirited
U of h home game in quite some time. I mean,
Texas did bring some energy to it, for sure. Yes,
that was what two years ago. Yeah, a good game.

(02:12:14):
It was a good game, still won by your you guys.
It's fine. The underdogs had a shot, but they're committing
penalties and we're thankfully, we're much more disciplined today than
we were two years ago. Thanks Matt. He's now running.
He's now running things in Nebraska, at least on the
offensive side. Seven one three five seven. Nunnis all right,

(02:12:35):
we're back here on the Matt Thoma Show. Sorry, it
took a little long and we wanted to be hiew
were on, all right, so make sure hey is this
thing on? Have can hear myself at least the YouTube
shows get on the air. Okay, God bless it. It's
just awful. Sometimes we have equipment issues.

Speaker 7 (02:12:55):
Matt.

Speaker 2 (02:12:56):
This is the way of the world. It is, and
let's this showmost go on. Let's go on. I got
some folks I want to talk talk to Mark on Saturday. Mark,
thank you for holding in. Good afternoon to you, and
we have.

Speaker 5 (02:13:08):
Been Jack and me with all this I've called ten times.

Speaker 2 (02:13:15):
Hell anyway, I got you right, Yes, sir, you're.

Speaker 5 (02:13:26):
All right listen. Uh oh on the ass spotted and
uh Dana Brown's back for next year.

Speaker 2 (02:13:36):
Well at this point, as the answers, yes.

Speaker 5 (02:13:39):
Okay, let's go to real quick. I'll run through this
in my kingion.

Speaker 4 (02:13:43):
We send me.

Speaker 12 (02:13:45):
Uh, they need a first base, I'll believe I like
Christian Walker, they got to get somebody there. Uh, the
infield set, the outfield, they get the big board back
and last, I like Virus a lot in the center
so they an'tnother outfield hit. And they need to replace,

(02:14:07):
not replace. They need some change in their starting rotation
as well as there.

Speaker 2 (02:14:14):
And I'll hang all right, Uh, you're you're not getting
all those things answered. You're you're you're not literally you
cannot overhaul the franchise every single year. It's not possible.
It doesn't happen, not in baseball for sure. No, it's
certainly not when your farm system resources are limited. And again,
you want to trade Christian Walker. I'm not saying you

(02:14:38):
as a collective audience, but you so you know who
Christian Walker is. The Astros know who Christian Walker is.
I got news for you. The other twenty nine baseball
teams know what Christian Walker is. You think he's got
a little bit of value though if if if a
team says, all right, he got twenty I mean he
got twenty seven home runs. At the end of the day,
the numbers were bad, the the batting avera went down,

(02:15:00):
the ops went down, strikeouts up, walks down to where
he could say, you know what, I was in a
new place. I was pressing. He had a good July
and August and the end of September was good for him.
To answer your question when you originally asked it, the
answer is, yes, he does have value. You'll have some
value to somebody because what if, if, if, how does

(02:15:22):
this sound to you? Koree at third, Pina at short, eventually,
Bryce Matthews at second, and Es suck praise at first,
He suck praise is a pretty good defensive third basement,
so I think he'll be good at first when when
his problem at third is his range. Everything hits to
him is good. He just has limited range that's perfect
for first base. But actually he performed better than I

(02:15:44):
thought he was going to when we first talked about
him at spring training. But he was like a vacuum cleaner.
Anything that hit his way he took care of. He
just didn't He's not super rangy. I just you know,
what are you expecting in return? And you're gonna have
to pay some of Christian Walker's contract. Chris Walker on
the market is not at his age and his urtical.

(02:16:05):
Your decline is not worth forty million dollars over the
next two seasons. You right, But you have a glut
in the infield now that you made the Korea trade
and he which you made out of necessity because Paradis
was going to be out for as long as he was.
And all by the way, the one thing we've not
talked about the Astros made a concerted effort to move
Jose Altuve to left field. Is that done? They weren't

(02:16:26):
happy with him playing second base at all this season.
They were ready to make that move. Why would you
think they would be so excited about him being there
at twenty twenty six. He wasn't great. Yeah, he was
bad at second base and bad at left field, no
matter where you live, the metrics you want to look at.
My guess is if we were to pull those guys
apart at the Astros, they would like to give eighty

(02:16:47):
games to Altwove as a DH and give eighty games
to Jordon Avarez, Which means, if Jordon Avarus can do it,
you can play a lot of quite a bit of
second base or quite a bit of left field, and
you have a split part time situation with Jose al
Tuba playing second base or maybe not at all. But
I can't imagine them going well, that was just a

(02:17:08):
one year bit. We made a mistake because Jose wasn't
great in the left field, but he did embarrass himself.
One wasn't terrible at second base either, but defensive metrics
were better with other people playing second base. Yeah, he fielding.
Our friends at Fielding Bible have him as the worst
left fielder in only forty seven games out there and

(02:17:28):
one of the worst second basemen with only sixty six
games there. Okay, So that sounds like to me, he'd
be a full time DH with any other baseball team
except the Houston Astros because they got another guy who
could probably be a full time DH, right, And I
mean you got to figure stuff out at first first
base as well. So I mean, if you're doing okay,
if you're keeping Walker and Esach and Penna and Korea,

(02:17:51):
you're not stop. You can't. There's somebody has to go
unless East, like Predates, is no trade value because of
his hamstring situation, or or you believe you can play
at second you only get one DA spot. If his
range isn't great at third, why would I think that
second base would be any better? Middle infield? You need
you would like more range? Yes, all right, we will

(02:18:13):
table this for now. But this is this is the
deep conversations your organization has to have. Can you move
Christian Walker? Yes? Do you have to be in his
position to pay some of his salary? Absolutely? And also
don't expect a whole lot of return because again, the
Bible is out, the resume is out on Christian Walker.
Who is He's gonna so hit your twenty plus home runs,

(02:18:34):
so gonna drive in in a four to five to
six position for your team. But the numbers have decreased
the last couple of years, and you would think age again,
it's going to become a huge factor in his future
last two years of his contract, which you pay forty
million dollars total. Four well I Frances next one twenty
nine Sports Talk seven ninety one one. On Sports Talk
seven ninety let's spend ten cold a minutes with the

(02:18:56):
head football coach of are Houston Cougar's four and oh
after an impressive win against Oregon State, Willie Fritz with
us on the show. Willie, thanks as always for joining us.
Congratulations on the great start, Congratulations on having a little downtime.
But let me ask you this, Uh what changed first half?

(02:19:16):
Probably not to your satisfaction. Late fourth quarter the charge
came through. Does special teams make that kind of difference
to get the positivity going on both sides of football,
especially when you're down late in the game.

Speaker 6 (02:19:28):
Yeah, I had a couple of big block field goals.
Those are hard to get.

Speaker 4 (02:19:32):
You know.

Speaker 2 (02:19:32):
We need to add they've been.

Speaker 6 (02:19:34):
Having some trouble with their snap phole kick mechanism, and
you know, Will James and Latrell cutching. Really the second
one that Will James got. There might have been three
or four guys had a chance to get it, but
they really came up big. And then, you know, we
played really well in the second quarter offensively, and we

(02:19:55):
just didn't get the points. I think we had the
ball first and goal on the one yard line twice
and gat you know, I had to kick a field
goal out of it. Had hurt us in the second quarter,
you know, a couple of big plays defensively which we
hadn't given up much, but no other thing. I was
just proud of the guys that we hung in there.

(02:20:16):
Everybody's believing on the sideline, you know, made a few
adjustments and we're able to pull the game out. It's
a you know, you go on the road, it's tough.
All games are tough, but particularly when you go that
far on the road. So I'm proud of the fellas well.

Speaker 2 (02:20:31):
When you talk about adjustments, are we dialing up or
dialing back offensively and defensively? Are there such terms? Will
you go to your coordinator and say, hey, let's throw
a few more blitzes at him. Will you go to
your coordinator on the offensive side and say Hey, why
don't we go a little more up tempo? What are
the little subtleties that maybe we don't know about just
watching the game that you could definitely tell there was

(02:20:54):
a momentum shift in that game because of the special
teams and because things got more fluid on the off
offensive side of the football.

Speaker 6 (02:21:02):
Well, you know, you changed tempos. We wanted to do that.
In the first half. We weren't getting first house. So
it's hard to stay in a drive when you don't
get first down. So do a good job with up tempo,
and you know, it allows you to throw the ball
a little bit more. That can't substitute, you know, do
a little better job with pass protection most of the time.
And that's the case, you know. But the main thing is, Hey,

(02:21:24):
here's what we've been doing, here's how we've gotten hurt
with it. Here's something we haven't done yet. This is
something that we think can be beneficial for us, and
you know, make those adjustments on the sideline and then
then go with it. You know, we just started off slow. Unfortunately,
you know, we just we have a you know, an opener,
so we call them script and you know, we've gone

(02:21:45):
over those in great detail, We lined up like we
out there were going to line up or we're just
execute the way we needed to, kept them in the game,
got them ahead, got them confidence, and then we started
playing a lot cleaner, particularly in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 2 (02:22:01):
I know that it was a non conference game, but
can that build momentum because most teams are down fourteen
to fourth quarter, you're thinking about the long trip, you're
thinking about the you know, the late night and you
know it just wasn't our day. Was Is there anything
you had to say? Was there a beyond the special teams?
Was did you know, hey we got this a we

(02:22:23):
can get this game to overtime, We got a chance
to win this thing.

Speaker 4 (02:22:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (02:22:27):
That was you know there at the very end, you know,
there's always scored to get within seven. The analytics would
have told you to, you know, go for two. That way,
you kick the extra point, make it the extra points,
you win the game. Yeah, yeah, you don't get it.
You got another chance to go for two. I just
I just felt like we get the game in the overtime,

(02:22:47):
you know, and with our kicker, you know field goal
kicker in particular, we were gonna have a great chance
to win the game. So it kind of went against
the book and that point in time, and you know,
we got the big to our touchdown reception. You know,
I almost kicked myself in the butt, you know there
at the end with calling some timeouts and we had
them backed up. You know, we could have gotten to

(02:23:10):
punt and had about fifty seconds on the clock, but
unfortunately we had to make it a little bit more
of a nail biting situation than we wanted to.

Speaker 2 (02:23:19):
So this Red Rider team coming in is also four
and oh no surprise you will. You followed college football
special Texas football for a long time. They're at five
hundred and seventy three total yards of offense per game.
But it's their defense that I think it's probably something
that we're not used to that right raid or squad
on that side of the football is playing some excellent
football right now.

Speaker 6 (02:23:40):
Yeah, they're doing a good job. You know, they're very very,
very talented, wo question, and they're very well coached offense, defense,
kicking game. You know, it's it's a very well coached team.
We're gonna have to do a super job from the
beginning of the game to the end of the game.
On Saturday night, it gonna be very important. We got
like four quarters. You know this. This this last week

(02:24:04):
was the first game that we've been minus the turnover
takeaway margin. We're minus one. We need to be plus one.
We need to be plus two. We got to you know,
play play up to our the best we can play.
It's gonna be important when you play quality opponent like
Texas Tech. So you know, we've talked about to our

(02:24:24):
kids about that and had a good week of practice
and important to challenge Saturday night.

Speaker 2 (02:24:30):
You spend time focusing on a starting quarterback. Obviously you'll
spend a little bit of time i'm assuming during practice
on the backup, but not very much. How do you
do it when you've seen two quarterbacks with some good
amount of game tape on what Texas Tech has shown
them so far this year.

Speaker 6 (02:24:46):
I don't think there's a whole lot of difference between
the two guys. You know, they're going to run their offense.
You know, we've actually gone back and looked a little
bit of the offense. You know, the offensive coordinator did
it a Tech State. He was the offensive coordinated there
last year and I did a good job there and
a lot of similarities what he did there with what

(02:25:08):
they're doing in Texas Tech. It's the style of offense
that they run, and and you know the quarterbacks are
going to pretty much, you know, run that offense. You're
going to get one guys going to be primarily a
runner and the other guy primarily a passer. So we
just got to be smart with you know, personnel groupings, formations, splits,

(02:25:30):
you know, down in distance, tendencies, you know, and then
trying to make the very best call based on all
those different things.

Speaker 2 (02:25:38):
So if you had a chance to and then look,
you'll win a game by one point if it's forty
seven to forty five, or you'll win a game of
fourteen to thirteen if it goes the Cougar's way, which
hopefully it does. How do you see this thing turning out?
You're assuming I'm you know, low turnover side on yours side,
maybe grabbing one away from them. What other keys in
tangibles could you anticipate for your squad if you're gonna

(02:26:00):
pall off his victory on Saturday night?

Speaker 6 (02:26:02):
Well, you're correct, we'll take it either way that you yeah,
but uh, you know, we talk all the time about
the plane to win and the number one component of
the playing to win for us is you know, turnover
takeaway margin. You know, if we can when we plus
and a turnover takeaway margin, it's going to give us
a you know, great opportunity to be successful. And then
I think we've got to do a good job with
you know, the run game, you know, running the ball

(02:26:23):
successfully stop them from running. You know that, you know,
and make a team one dimensional. You know, running the
ball allows you to be too two dimensional. I think,
and uh, you know, you don't allow a team to
run the ball and makes them one dimensional. I have
to throw it every day. Now, you got some calls
that are gonna be in your favorite kicking game. I

(02:26:43):
think it's gonna be important. We talk about, you know,
winning the special teams and you know, on the thing
at this point. Last week we talked about Cooby go
and beat the kooks.

Speaker 5 (02:26:52):
All the time.

Speaker 6 (02:26:53):
We had to wait too many penalties. You know, we
had ten penalties. I think they accepted eight of them.

Speaker 10 (02:26:59):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (02:27:00):
Three of the penalties three stamp you know or self
inflicted loans. So we got to play a much cleaner game.

Speaker 2 (02:27:07):
Does time of possession mean a whole lot to you?
Because I've watched plenty of games where teams will be
on the field eight nine minutes and only score a
field goal. And then sometimes you're on the field for
a minute and a half and you go eighty yards
and four plays. Is that a factor in your mind
in terms of keeping that prolific offense off the field.

Speaker 6 (02:27:23):
Yeah, that's certainly helps you. But you got to be
able to run the ball and you know, you know,
control the game with short passes and all those kind
of things. You know, if you're on the field offensively,
you're playing a really good defense.

Speaker 4 (02:27:38):
You know.

Speaker 6 (02:27:39):
They're not doing anything to you, so you know, you
got to see how the game happens. You know, we'll
take a touchdown, whether it's a one play drive or
a twelve play drive. You know, control of the clock really,
you know, gives you a leg up with not having
defended potent offense like they have.

Speaker 2 (02:27:58):
Well, I thank you for the time, as always, congract
on the late night when you'll be in a normal
spot at six o'clock, you'll be wearing the Royal Blue,
the Houston uniforms. That should be a great crowd, great atmosphere,
and I hope the kids enjoy the experience. Well, thank
you very much, go Koogs. Thank you will appreciate it.
Willie Fritz joining US University Houston football coach with us
here at one forty one on Sports Talk seven ninety

(02:28:19):
again just passing along some words of advice. There's construction
by the University Houston area which is probably going to
make things a little tougher getting in. So if you're
going to the game, six o'clock will be the kickoff
time or thereabouts, get there early. There's lots of good
tail getting to do and flyovers and all that kind
of things. Being a good crowd going to be amped
up on both sides, and hopefully it'll be the perfect

(02:28:42):
main course to the appetizer that will be Texas versus Florida,
the pregame show before the real game of the week
between the University Houston and Texas Tech the game America's
Game of the Week. Ross is working on the Believe
or Not sitting here word I said, We'll make sure
I got that along. Okay, one two, Let's play Believe.

Speaker 11 (02:28:58):
It or Not.

Speaker 2 (02:28:58):

last day, all right, one pair of tickets for that,
and then we also have tickets to a concert too,

(02:29:20):
if I'm not mistaken? Correct? What else we got going on?
I can look it up? I should know these things.

Speaker 6 (02:29:28):

Speaker 4 (02:30:10):
One?

Speaker 2 (02:30:10):
Of the greatest shows of all time. I wouldn't recommend
it to you. Is it too data at this point?
It's a little dated. It's also pretty dense. You have
to pay attention. Oh yeah, I wouldn't recommend it to you.
I was gonna say paying attention, not think it's one
of the greatest shows of all time. I recommend What
would you compare it to like Snowfall? Oh, I haven't

(02:30:31):
watched Snowfall. It's just a good procedural drama. It's as
far as it's it's a mix of things. It's every
year they focus. Basically, it's about institutional dysfunction, which they
go with with police politics exactly, police politics, the mirrors
between gang politics, Like there's a hierarchy in gang politics,

(02:30:54):
and they mirror that to actual politics and stuff like that,
how everything's kind of one and the same, and everything's
messed up no matter where you look, and it's people
who are just trying to get ahead and step on
each other's throats, that type of stuff. So basically seven
nine it is very well written, extremely well written, well acted,
great show, best show of all time if you asked me. Okay,
but I also haven't finished a Breaking Bad, so TVD

(02:31:18):
Breaking Bats very good.

Speaker 4 (02:31:20):

Speaker 2 (02:36:14):
Man, he didn't sound too sure of himself, did he.
I know he's a price. He's a price or two.

I went to him. But normally, let me tell you something,

(02:36:36):
we wanna talk about Jane Goodall? So I didn't know
I One of the first times I remember hearing about
her was in the Far Side. Do you ever read
Gary Larson Farside comics?

Speaker 4 (02:36:47):
No?

Speaker 6 (02:36:47):
You what?

Speaker 2 (02:36:48):
