Speaker 1 (00:02):

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Tenh two in h Town. Good morning, everyone, and welcome
to a Wednesday edition of The Matt Thomas Show with
Ross here on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
It is a little.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
More than a snack sized show.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
We're gonna take you till eleven and fifty today and
then send you over to Cattie Park of the Palm
Beaches for little spring training baseball, where today Rossie Brandon
Walter will take the hill.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
For the local nine and spring training play against the Nationals. Unbelievable.
The anticipation is killing me.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Well, I don't want you to die with this. I mean,
there's some bigger issues in your life besides this.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
I was being metaphorical. Mat oh, I see, I see.
All right, So a snack sized edisution show ballock, I
guess yeah, it's fine.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Hey, but we'll have the game for you and everybody
that hates us because we carry spring training games at
night will not be nearly as man as today.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
That's good.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
We've been doing it for a long time, friends, I
mean literally years and years. Yeah, and remember we carry
the ones that the games that really count, one that
the well some are on k it's because we got
rockets a deep playoff run, Rossie.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
We'll see how deep of a playoff run it is. Well,
but it's been for years and years and years, and
if I have this correctly, most teams do not broadcast
their spring training games.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Uh most teams, or at least that used to be
the case. Yeah, most teams broadcast them. They just don't
put them over the radio ever. Like they'll put like
ten games on and the rest will be on there
will be on the internet.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
So you're welcome, Astros fans.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Yeah, we still give you a boatload of games. I
mean all the night games we carry live. We carry
quite a few of the day games. Uh, the weekend games,
I mean we do all right, we get you ready,
m h, we get you ready for little cam Smith
right field debut tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
Oh baby, oh, here we go the future right fielder
of yours Uston Astros.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
So Camp Smith walks in the Astros clubhouse today and
everybody the word travels fast that camp Smith can play
right field.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Camp's like, man, chess, can you help me out with
a kip of thing? Who are you? What do you
do that's not happening? Camp Smith isn't going to Chas
McCormick to learn how to play right.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Oh, that's that's so made sports RV.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
He's talking to Michael Brantley. Oh that's actually true. Uncle
Mike is out there. Do you think they do that
awkward nod like what's up? What's up?

Speaker 2 (02:35):
You know when when you have somebody in the office
it's about to take your spot, or is like leading
the lead, leading the department in sales for the month,
and you're not the top dog anymore?

Speaker 1 (02:43):
What's up? I guess, and get them sales up? Chas
last year was putrid.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Yeah, time for a rebound. We're gonna put you back
in the uh, in the in the with the junior sellers.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Put you back in the make you a free agent.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Oh what about those guys that do the chest chop?
That can be are theyna be Okay?

Speaker 1 (03:07):
I don't know. You have to come up with something
for Cam Smith.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
All right, So here's what we got. We have your
on We have opera and Shangoon Truthers.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Oh what's happening now? Nothing. I'm just trying to think
who who are the current truthers? You know what they do?
Definitely Shingoon. Those are the Dubon Truthers, right, there's.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
There's gotta be a chassy fizz. Oh, Jake Myers Truther.
I'm working with one every day.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
Let's go, baby, you're smacking the ball over. Yeah. I
got them top five m v P this year.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Do you okay? I got him on the roster of
the entire season. That's gonna be some middle ground.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
Between some of us. Uh. Wh who's a Texan Truther?
It was Davis Mills for a while. Yeah. Is it
Tank Dell? No, he's actually good. Nobody likes Dalton Schultz.
It doesn't seem like.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
No, no, no. A lot of money spent on that
cat for the next couple of years.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
Hmmm.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Maybe the Texans don't have a truth of it. Who
is somebody that we.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
Just there are people who are like huge into Nicosario
and think he's a genius.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
That is completely accurate. You're talking media?

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Are you talking about both? Both? Both? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (04:21):
I got you.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
We will have the Nikossero on the show. I believe
we've got it scheduled for Neuber nineteenth at never thirty.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
I'll give you another one. Cam Whitmore. There are people
that think Cam Whitmore needs to start over. Geeland Green,
Cam Witmore doesn't even play anymore. Well, they're getting a
dose of reality. It is weird on the Rockets.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
By the way, Fred van Vliet listed is probable yesterday. Yesterday,
Now after we got to shoot around today. Okay, that's
what they call light practice. The kids would say, well, yeah,
I think it was. He apparently there was practice yesterday, right, yes,
there was so a light shoot around today. And then
when we'll find out a five point fifteen tonight when

(05:02):
the emadocus speaks to the media, of course we'll have
the game right for a year around Sports Talk seven
ninety as it take on the dur Angela Kevin Durant
and then will be gone. Phoenix Suns and Devin Booker
should be playing, correct, Yes, I believe I did not
see him on the injury report yesterday, so we'll check

(05:22):
on that.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
But yeah, they're in the eleventh spot.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
If you're the Phoenix Suns and you don't make the playoffs.
With the fact that Kyrie Irving has done for the
year and the Mavericks trade, Luka, doncic, I mean, is
your life just not worth hanging around for much longer?

Speaker 1 (05:37):
They're gonna make it. I think I think they're two
and a half out. Don't hold me to that. I
won't hold you to that, but I will bring up
the standings. Let me see, I think I have been
a state. You've been a standings whore.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
I am a standing I am a standings whr. I
am standings obsessed two.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
And a half back two in the lost column? What's
wrong with me? By the way on that?

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Why am I obsessed with these Western Conference and I
think I'm the only person's obsessed about them?

Speaker 1 (06:04):
That's not true. I don't think there's just want to
know where you're heading for a playoff series?

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Well, what I want and this is the God's honest
truth on this. I want to avoid the playing game
under every circumstance.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
That's gonna happen. That's gonna happen. They get a three
and a half cushion for that.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Yeah, they're three in front of Golden State for the
six seat. By the way, Golden State just never loses.
They've won five in or own nine of ten. Minnesota
is three and a half out.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
So I've been.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Telling WEX and I'll tell this to Adam klat next time.
We're working to I want scores in the game. I
just I won't be able to focus. Man, I'll focus
on the game. It'sself that I'm calling them. But I
need scores.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
Just close the tab or whatever you're looking at. Although
they put them on the big board at the Toyota
Center two. No, no, I want to see them. Don't look.
I want to No, Matt, I want to look focus
on the task in hand. I guess you know there's
one thing I can teach you, Mad, It's about focus.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
Oh exactly, they do, they call you mister str right,
I on the prize.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
I'm sorry what I on the prize? I was kidding.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
All right, Hey, it's great to have all of you
with us today. We have at eleven twenty today our
weekly edition.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
Of shut Yo, bomass Up. We got a lot to
get to on that we do well. I mean, it
was this just feel like our most cathartic part of
the week, don't you agree? Yeah? I don't think. I
don't know if I have anybody yell at at the moment.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
I mean I could yell at Shack for not knowing
who the coaches the Pistons said audio.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
I did God pretty bad, and and and and by
on that set was just kind of laughing it off.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
I'd be like, if I was a producer or I
was the chairman of TNT Sports, who by the way,
they're paying Shack fifteen million dollars next year.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
I don't want to be made fun of. I. You
know what, we can.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Have goofy takes and things that we can say that are,
you know, kind of crazy and whatnot, but just fundamental
things that you should know. And I'm not asking for
him to give me a deep dive of every player
in the Detroit Pistons or a deep dive of anything
in college basketball.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
But Shaquille O'Neal is paid.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
And he was talking about how much he loves the
Detroit Pistons, and he's bringing up Chauncey Billups name.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Well, there's a problem.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Chauncey Billups is the coach of the Portland Trail Blazers,
not the Detroit Pistons. So then somebody on the set says, well,
I gotta I gotta strain you out with Jamie pickers
Aff And then he goes on and say, well, I
don't watch the Detroit Pistons, then how do you know
they're any good? It's bad, it's and it's not. We
talk let me tell you Ross about this all the time.
I'm gonna do it again, and I'm sorry, Ross. I

(08:32):
apologize ahead of the time for the audience. The biggest
problem in our industry, whether it's local, whether it is national,
is we have given too many people the opportunity to
hold a microphone. I blame the networks, I blame YouTube,

(08:53):
I blame podcast I blame people that just don't ever
hold anybody accountable for anything.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
Yeah, it's a problem, and it's it's not only that.
Like as you said, people aren't holding him him accountable.
Shack's not holding himself accountable. I wouldn't you feel some
sort of personal responsibility to know about the NBA if
you were getting fifteen million dollars or you just don't
care because you're speaking for seventeen different products and you're

(09:25):
America's pitch man, you're one of the greatest NBA players
of all time, and you think it's it's Turner's privilege
to give you this money to talk about the NBA,
even though you know what the hell you're even talking about.
You can't even name the coach of the team you're breaking.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
Down I mean, I'm gonna tall Something'm gonna puiel the
curtain back ross because I think you know, you know,
I like to build a couch.

Speaker 6 (09:42):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
If I miss call a play where I say a
person got a rebound or a score or something, it,
I get in my car and I crush myself over it. Yes,
and I go, I've got to be better. And I'm
I mean, and look, I called twenty five thousand plays
a year. Well, if I get twenty four nine fifty right,
I'm very happy. But the fifty players I get wrong

(10:04):
a year I get, I'm upset up myself. Do you
think Shack got in his car last night after miss
uh naming the coach of the Detroit Pistons or which
he was talking about and he do you think he
was really bothered by that? Do you think somebody at
and T was bothered by that? No?

Speaker 1 (10:22):
Yeah, I'm sorry to get on my soapbox on this.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
I apologize, but I just look, you're not all going
to bat a thousand, We're.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
All going to miss things. And of course, but.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
In this basic world in which Shaquille O'Neil has brought
up on the television set to sit down and entertain
you gotta get a few things right.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
It's funny. I there was. It was literally probably like
a year ago. I said the wrong baseball player. I
said Jorge Silaire instead of like Jorge Polanka or something.
And I literally thought about it like in the last week,
like I was like, oh my god, I can't believe
I said that. Like stuff like that. I'm with you, Like,
if I get some thing wrong, it makes me upset.

(11:03):
And clearly Shaq doesn't care.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
And when it's when I and the day that I
don't don't get upset about me missing a call is
a day I should probably stop doing it. Yeah, I
just you know, on tomorrow's edition, I just don't get it.
I just don't get how people can just go out
there and blatantly get things wrong. Now, opinions, you can
okay subjectivity to it, right, there's some Yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
There's more leeway to me. Crushing people for bad predictions
is one, because nobody can predict the future, you know,
I say the Celtics are gonna crush whoever and then
they live whatever. But yeah, if you're gonna have some
kind of crazy whack opinion, or if you're just not
getting gonna know what you're talking about, or know who's
on the team. That's that's completely you are. You are

(11:52):
failing at your responsibility to bring good analysis. Yeah, you're
just sorry, and I apologize for getting the soapbox on it.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
But I just saw that today and I was like, man,
we have people in the media industry losing.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
Jobs left and right.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
Yes, that are fact checkers for these guys making fifteen
million dollars a year. I mean, Colin Coward goofs up
all the time, very entertaining, goofs up all the time.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
Steven A.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
Smith, highly compensated, Holly Opinion, makes massive mistakes all the time,
and they just shake it off.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
All right. Back does some other things.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
We mentioned Fred van Vliet probable for tonight's game, which
is very good news, especially because the Rockets are down
a bunch of point guards because of re Upperd's injury,
and obviously Man Thompson out.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
Is all quiet on the friege in front right now.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
I believe on the Texans nobody's no new offensive lineman
ha been signed or.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
Anything not that I've heard of.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
Did you see what Ian Rappaport said over the.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
What did Ian Rappaport say well till we come back.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
Oh, so we called Professional T Sports RV. That's what
we do. It is about Thomas Joel Ross shuts your

Speaker 6 (14:01):
Matt Thomas, Ross Burial, It's the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
On Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (14:11):
You said some very interest about Cake. Great player now
at this stage, he plays at his own pace. Anybody
that can consistently play at their own place and put
up numbers, it's a great player. I like the way
he's playing. I like what Chunce is doing. Those guys
play hard. My favorite player on that team is Isaiah Stewart.
Big body, hard guy, like to knock people out.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
Pushing you Like, who's doing it? You said, chunky coaches. Okay,
that's what I mean.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
You know.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
First of all, I don't watch Detroit.

Speaker 4 (14:42):
How about that, Boo boo, I don't watch.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
I made a mistake, all right, yeah, boo boo.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
And by the way, accountability, it was not a Ian
Rapp report support we're gonna talk about. It was an
Albport I make the apology.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
It was not it was It was not meant with
a I'm just kidding.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
No, no, no, I want to miss see.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
But Shack could have done that. He could have said,
I'm sorry. You know, Chauncey used to play for the Pistons.
I got the names mixed. He doubled down, was like, oh,
I don't care, I don't watch Detroit like that's that
was like childlike to me. That's what made it worse.
It's okay to kind of say, you know, Matt, you've
said the wrong or I said though, and when you
kind of play it off, you're like, oh, you know what,
I'm sorry, Matt. That's that's that's my bad. Yeah, you

(15:36):
just move on. You don't double down and be like, oh,
who cares, I don't even watch Detroit. That's that's that's
one of the teams, one of the thirty teams in
your league that's actually doing well, by the way, and
you're completely dismissing them. Yeah, that's It's ridiculous. It is ridiculous.

(15:56):
All right.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross Sports Talks
of a ninety seven one three two one two five
seven nine zero seven one three two one two five
seven nine. If you want to jump into the conversation,
we're with you today until eleven fifty then we sent
it over to Astro's spring training. Hey, okay, so Albert
Breer does the Monday Morning Quarterback. It's MMQB And he

(16:19):
inherited that from what Peter King because Peter King get
tired correct.

Speaker 1 (16:22):
Uh huh, when he wasn't hanging up on producers who
were trying to get.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
A really show really grouchy reporter, I mean super grouchy.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
It is what it is. We can't always be pleasant
twenty four to seven. Uh so uh.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
He basically was asked about why the Texans have made
all these moves, and he said that Laramie Tunzel was
considered well liked by the players and I and Russ.
If he was not liked, we would have heard about it.
So to have the narrative out there that this guy

(17:00):
was a bad dude and not appreciated and whatnot, that's
not necessarily the case, but apparently according to Albert Breer.
He said that the once promising unit of the offensive
line for the Texas, which they spent a lot of
money on the last couple of years, turned into a
borderline toxic.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
Place to be. You know why, that is ross in
my mind?

Speaker 2 (17:26):
It's because you had five or six guys spending on
who was playing and who was hurt and whatever. We're
all trying to pass blame on other people. Is the
reason why they gave up fifty four sacks this past year.
That's what makes it toxic, right?

Speaker 1 (17:38):
Probably that mean that makes sense. There was a lot
of shuffling going around, and maybe there was some finger
pointing and stuff like that. I don't know. I'm gonna go.

Speaker 2 (17:47):
I don't know, but I feel very confident in assuming
that that could be the case.

Speaker 1 (17:51):
Has this been refuted. I'm sure this will get refuted
by everyone and who her players and management and stuff
like that. Uh.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
You know what, though, Ross, I don't know think to
do it because I think the evidence of what that
report is is bearing out with the fact that three
members of the offensive line are gone.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Now, does that Rubga need to be shuffled up? I
would also say borderline toxic. I mean, he's a writer,
so he chose that carefully. I think that kind of
makes it try to sound worse than it is.

Speaker 2 (18:27):
I will say this, you can agree with me. I
don't think he made up that frame.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
No borderline. Maybe there was some disagreements and some heated arguments.
What does borderline toxic mean? It's toxic or it's not
to me? If you're going to be reporting like this.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
I think you can be in a workplace. I think
I know the difference between borderline toxic and toxic.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
I do.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
I think I think I can. I can reasonably understand
anything in life. When somebody says, like if things on
the on.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
The verge, when you hear the term of ross, of
the term verge of disaster, okay, I mean there's a
disaster and then you're on the verge of something, or
you hear the term the verge of something big, Well,
it's big or it's gonna almost gonna get there. I
know what the words mean. I'm just saying I think
it was. I don't know. Yeah, I would say that

(19:20):
would mean nobody cared. If everybody was like all smiles
and thumbs up and everything was great, that means they
didn't care because obviously the unit was horrible last year.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
Here's how I read it, and I'm just one man's
opinion is that that got that room went in there
and looked at the film every week, and everybody screwed up.

Speaker 1 (19:40):
Different weeks were different performances.

Speaker 2 (19:43):
And I think at that point they looked at each
other and said.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
Oh, that was your fault. Oh that was your fault,
that was your fault. And I think that's what happened.
I think there was a lot.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
I think the blame game was very strong in the
Texans old line room.

Speaker 1 (19:57):
I will say I could I could believe that some
of the blame was trying to be placed on Laramie
Tunseel and and he was. There was pushback and then
maybe a lack of accountability from Laramie Tunseell. I could
see that.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
Yeah, I'm not saying that this is not an indictment.
I think overall on Laramie, I think this is an
indictment on the room itself. So then I guess who
was on Pat McAfee was I think it was rappingport.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
On with Pat McAfee yesterday.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
I think it's who it was, sure, And they were
asking he was saying, you know, how much interest was
there in Laramie Tunseell And apparently he reported the Texans
were shopping Larmie to a bunch of teams and a
lot of teams said now we're good. Now, whether that's
because their offensive line was satisfied, or that they knew
that Laramie Tunsell was looking to get a new deal,

(20:41):
because remember, part of this is that Larry Tunseil's probably
going to re sign a new extension with the Washington
General and the generals, the Washington Commanders Generals Commanders. Yeah,
I think it comes as part of the territory. So,
I mean, my guess is that we'll be hearing in

(21:03):
the not too distant future either a reworked contract or
an extension for Laramie Tunsil. And right now, if you
are the Washington Commanders, not on their roster top to bottom,
but knowing a pretty good what they've done so far
in the offseason, Ross, if they don't win the Super Bowl,
could they blow this bad boy up or at least
get there, because they are spending a lot of money

(21:23):
to make sure Jane Daniels.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
Is properly protected. They they are doing what the Texans
have tried to do. They're trying to seize the opportunity
of him on a rookie deal, right, and that's absolutely
what they should do.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
Yeah, Yeah, Ted twenty eight, Sports Talk seven ninety It
is a Matt tom Ross were with you today? Until
eleven fifty Astros Baseball coming up in a little over
an hour from now seven three two one two five
seven nine zero seven one three two one two five
seven Honety Ross, would you like the definitive situation when

(21:59):
it comes to Camp M Smith and whether or not
he makes the twenty six man roster and how it
helps and hurts the Astros when it comes to their finances.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross Sports Talk
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven
nine zero seven one three two one two five seven
ninety If you want to visit with us through Twitter,
you may do that as well. At sports MT and
at sports erv everybody, I want you to get a
notepad out, because I was given some incredible information today

(24:24):
and it wasn't like I was digging for, but I
wanted to get it right myself. So I'm going to
read this information I got today about Campsmith because I
obviously Campsmith is. Would you say, Ross is the second
biggest storyline coming out of camp besides Holsel two van Leftfield?

Speaker 1 (24:38):
Say yes? Okay?

Speaker 2 (24:41):
So I posed a question about the Astros and whether
or not Campsmith's start making the roster out of spring
training would be a good thing or a bad thing.
All right, So stay with me, ladies and gentlemen, as
I read this to you and again write this down
or I'm just gonna have this standby ready because we're

(25:03):
gonna get this conversation probably closer to the start of
opening day. I said, can the Astros delay Smith's service
time a year if he misses the first fifteen games
of the season, and here's a response I got back.
A player must be on a major league roster or
injured list in all but fifteen days to be able

(25:26):
to accumulate one year of service time.

Speaker 1 (25:31):
All right, okay, so.

Speaker 2 (25:32):
He comes back if he starts in day sixteen in
plays of full season, it still wouldn't be a full
year of service time. You can get a draft pick
after the first round if a prospect promotion incentive eligible.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
Player accruise one year of service time.

Speaker 2 (25:51):
As a rookie and then factors into the Rookie of
the Year, the MVP or the cy Young. So if
he comes out here and he's a phenom meaning e
Rookie of the Year, I mean me and be impossible
for MVP. Not impossible, but you get my drift, he
could be a Rookie of the Year.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
Can MVP. That'd be crazy. That'd be crazy if he was.

Speaker 2 (26:12):
Players with little or no MLB service time need to
break camp of the team or be called up within
two weeks of opening day and must spend all or most.

Speaker 1 (26:19):
Of the year in the big leagues. Then they must either.

Speaker 2 (26:22):
Win their league's Rookie of the Year award or place
in the top three for MVP or SIUN. So again,
it's a very narrow situation if that happens. So if
they call up Smith within the first two weeks and
he wins the Rookie of the.

Speaker 1 (26:35):
Year award, they get a draft pick.

Speaker 2 (26:41):
So your option A is start him in the first
start him coming out of camp. He wins Rookie of
the Year, you get a draft pick, and that draft
pick we then we determined last week ross it was
like like a low first round pick, fairly high up.

Speaker 1 (26:54):
It was a higher pick. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Or he
waits the fifteen days.

Speaker 2 (27:00):
And then his service time starts a year from now,
it's compared to starting right away.

Speaker 1 (27:09):
That's how I'm reading what i's I was given this morning.

Speaker 2 (27:12):
Okay, So then the question becomes, would the ask if
Cam is really ready and there's nothing else that they
think he could do, would you potentially be hurting the
player and the player not being in a great mood
if you kept him down there just for two weeks,
just you could say a year of service time.

Speaker 1 (27:39):
I think he's not going to start the season with
the team, and I don't think he I mean, the
Astros have been aggressive, but this would be beyond what
we've seen before starting the season with with cam Smith
on the roster right because if you're putting him on
the roster, you're not putting him on the roster to
just sit the bench. You're putting on the roster to

(28:01):
start every day, because you wouldn't bring him up.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
For the start of the season, lose a year of
his arbitration eligibility just to get three at bats in
the first two weeks. My guess is with you if
you want, if you need him, as you said, you
need him to play right away.

Speaker 1 (28:23):
Four AB's a game. Four plate appearances, which.

Speaker 2 (28:28):
Means either you're not satisfied at third base his position,
or you're not satisfied in the right field position.

Speaker 1 (28:33):
He's got starting to play here beginning tomorrow. He's got
twenty plate appearances above a ball.

Speaker 2 (28:46):
If i'm him and this is now again, I'm trying
to put myself into his shoes. He's got to be
very excited about what he has done so far. Everybody
has been raving about. First of all, we had a
chance of his with him. Bright kid looks the part
built of granite, crushing the baseball. But there are two

(29:08):
things going three things actually going against him. Number one,
he has not ever seen he has what a very
small samples has a double A is that correct? Twenty
played appearances, so that's extraordinarily small twenty. Number two, the
glove is not considered the lead at third base. In fact,

(29:30):
I saw his skind of report on MLB Network that
said erratic at third base. So you're not bringing him
for his glove. And you all, by the way, have
east Soak Pardes ready to play at third base tomorrow?
And number three, if you think he is your guy,
do you want to put a guy in right field

(29:52):
who would be playing his first Major League baseball game
in a position he's never.

Speaker 1 (29:57):
Played that before. It's not happening. I don't think it's
not happening. I'm just trying to logically think of through this.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
Right the back probably is really close, if not ready
to go right now. Now Again, we're also going off
of main number. I mean, e'xcuse be march numbers. Yes,
very very sneaky. Who knows, Yeah, who knows, but obviously

(30:31):
ross with him playing in right field tomorrow and him
taking some outfield drills.

Speaker 1 (30:35):
Yesterday, they are trying to fast track this. Yeah, they're
trying to fast track it, but I don't think he
starts the season on the roster. I think it's a
little while before he comes up, and that's the way
they should do it. He's got twenty plate appearances above
a ball, he's twenty just turned twenty two years old.
So is this a.

Speaker 2 (30:53):
False narrative we're getting out there? Is this somebody trying
to artificially push this guy to the roster, or is
data giving up enough information, enough whispers out there that
we need this bat so bad that we're willing to
take a chance on a guy that has never played
right field at a professional level before. And again granty,
he's been an only professional time since late last year

(31:16):
because he was drafted.

Speaker 1 (31:19):
I think we're over hyping a really good spring, That's
what I think. Yeah, I would, And there's the last
thing I'll say about this.

Speaker 2 (31:33):
I can't imagine Kim would be like, what are you
guys doing trying to hold me back here? He wouldn't
be the first athlete that wouldn't come up to open
up a year with a kind of feena numbers he have,
and he certainly won't be the last. And if he
is the real deal, Ross, he will get his compensation,
and if he's really really the real deal, the Asters
have shown a history with some of their star players

(31:53):
to buy out years of arbitration.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
Yeah, he's he's in his this is second year out
of college. He's twenty two, he's barely been in Double
A ball. Yeah, maybe he's God's gift to baseball. We'll see,
but I just don't see it. I just don't think
it's gonna happen as of this moment.

Speaker 2 (32:15):
So I'm going to join you in saying that he
is not going to make the roster coming out of
spring training for a variety of reasons. I think the
fifteen day rule is a big issue, and again I
think that savvy baseball teams do it.

Speaker 1 (32:30):
I think baseball players that.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
I mean, it would be different Ross if he had
had a year and a half at spring training.

Speaker 1 (32:39):
Let mean, E sue me in the minor leagues and
had been an.

Speaker 2 (32:43):
Ops of nine hundred and crushing it, and there was
nothing else he could have possibly done. I think we're
just catching ourselves because there are so few storylines that
are uber intriguing at spring training. Because I don't think
him come up hoping that he is a Rookie of

(33:04):
the Year to get the extra draft pick is worth
the risk.

Speaker 1 (33:08):
This is crazy. I think it's a hype trained by
a lot of the fans who are looking at We're
grasping at something because look, honestly, this team is not
what it was in the last several years, and we
don't know if this is their last gas. But jose
L Twove is literally going to left field. He's in
the twilight of his career. You have all these question
marks in the outfield, and I think that it is

(33:32):
natural to try to grasp a young, unproven prospect like
Cam Smith no matter what, but especially in the circumstances
that the Astros are in where you really need something
to spark your to help you get to the idea
that this team can contend for a World Series championship.

Speaker 2 (33:56):
And if it's relying on camp Smith to do that
in the first two weeks of the year, then maybe
there are some bigger issues than just.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
Cam Smith joining. I'm trying to avoid saying grasping its straws,
but it's not quite that bad.

Speaker 2 (34:06):
No, no, because he has a great prospect. Yeah, I mean,
he deserves this.

Speaker 1 (34:10):
His Flowers right now. He absolutely does. He's he's having
a spectacular spring.

Speaker 2 (34:15):
But what I'm afraid is going to happen. We gotta
get to a break on this. I'm afraid if he
doesn't make the roster coming out of spring that the
Astros are gonna get hit hard. There will be fans,
it's gonna have a pr standpoint that they guaranteed. Let's
already lock it in Astros aos when he doesn't make
the major league roster to start the season, like an
entire segment, probably he can do it.

Speaker 1 (34:35):
Yeah, I think you're right.

Speaker 2 (34:36):
Unfortunately, ten forty five of the Matt Thomas Showood Ross,

This is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross on four.

Speaker 2 (35:57):
S fifty two of The Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
We take this program until eleven fifty. We have shut
Showbumass up coming up at eleven twenty. Ain't nobody got
time for that as well. Staying with the astros here
for this remaining portion of the ten fifty segment. Brian
McTaggart announcing five minutes ago that Lance McCullers Junior threw

(36:18):
thirty pitches against three different astros Rogers, Giormey, and something
called short I don't know who that is. Struck out two,
had three balls put into play and walked one. Meaning
the balls put in play means there were nobody. Theres
nobody in the outfield. So whethery routes or not doesn't
really matter.

Speaker 1 (36:36):
Jake Myers would have got it.

Speaker 2 (36:40):
Jake Myers has petitioned to play six positions in one
baseball game at the same time.

Speaker 1 (36:46):
They might need him to. They might go with two outfielders.

Speaker 2 (36:50):
You know, it's funny when you play softball you have
four outfielders. Jake Myers is so fast. He only he
only wanted one outfielder. He wanted to be by.

Speaker 1 (36:57):
Himself out there. Yeah, he does, he does. This is
good news.

Speaker 2 (37:04):
I mean again, uh slow slow build.

Speaker 1 (37:11):
Yes, I think it's really good news. Strike I'm still
feeling May fifteenth. That feels a couple of strikeouts is good.
He wanted to get some work in a game in
its spring. We'll see if that happens. Right. The biggest
hurdle for any pitcher is getting outs at the major
league level. So can he get outs after all this
time off what stay is his arm in Is it

(37:33):
close to where he was? Basically last time he had
a really good season was twenty twenty one.

Speaker 2 (37:44):
Here's the thing, though, and this is why I think
it's going to be still two months. We're talking about
thirty pitches.

Speaker 1 (37:51):
That's good.

Speaker 2 (37:52):
If he was a reliever, this wouldn't be an issue,
but I think hasn't. Mister mccullis on multiple occasions said that's.

Speaker 1 (37:59):
Not what I'm and when I'm thinking about, Yeah, Matt,
don't disrespect relievers and what they do. That's the way
he's spun it. That's interesting that he would do it
that way.

Speaker 2 (38:10):
I would think he would like to come out and
contribute to the team and as compared to worry about
his pitch kind of where is throwing. I mean, he
honestly doesn't have any leverage in this. I think the
Astros will do whatever they can to accommodate him, because,
let's face it, this.

Speaker 1 (38:27):
Is not an uberly deep.

Speaker 2 (38:29):
Rotation right now going in, especially because you've got so
many guys hurt.

Speaker 1 (38:34):
Yeah, you need some depth, and you're paying him eighteen
million dollars.

Speaker 2 (38:37):
But at the same time, if the Astros are like, man,
we need a six inning guy, and your arm is
able to rebound from thirty pitches. And I'm not saying
tomorrow he would do it in four days, but you mean,
my point is that if the arm is telling him
we can do this, and we could use you once
or twice a week at thirty pitches, then let's stop
worrying about whether or not you can get this eighty

(38:59):
five or nine, because that's what made I mean, here's
the reality. If all of a sudden and here I
am putting the cart well before the horse, and I
apologize for that, go ahead, but in two months, if
he's ready to go. But the folks say he's about
a seventy five pitch pitcher, you know that every fifth

(39:19):
day you're going to tax your bullpen terribly.

Speaker 1 (39:25):
Yeah, I think that the I'm sure the goal is
for him to ramp up to be a full starter.
That's the goal. Does he get there is another question? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (39:33):
I just would not if I was Lance at this
point in my career. And I'm sure he gets tired
of being asked about it. And my guess is he's
not being asked about it. And there was some initial
stuff early on, but I in my in my gut, roth.
I'm not making a gut feeling, but I'm just saying
in my gut today, I don't think we need that

(39:55):
we should ever close the book on Lance mccolors. If
he returns that he's returning in some sort of bullpen roll,
not because he wants to, not because the astros are
telling him to. I think the body may be dictating
it more than anything else.

Speaker 1 (40:10):
Yeah, we're dealing with incomplete information right now. Right we
don't know how how close to one hundred percent he is.
We don't know. I mean, we've heard some reports of
Velo hitting ninety one or whatever. I mean, did you
see a report on what pitches he was throwing and
the velocities. We don't know that. We know that he
got a couple of strikeouts, So that's good, even though
it sounded like it's against a bunch of kind of

(40:31):
just guys. That's okay. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (40:34):
Other things from McTaggart. Christian Walker doing some more defensive
drills today. Obviously that means not swinging just yet. Caleb
Board had no issues after throwing fifteen pitches yesterday. Osel
Tube and Cam Smith will play in split squad games
in West Palm Beach tomorrow and Pedro leon't play catch,
But I don't care at this point, and we know

(40:55):
this's is back to Pedrock.

Speaker 1 (40:56):
Yeah, he's gonna do it great for the Space Cowboys
Space Cowboys legend. Are they gonna have his.

Speaker 2 (41:01):
Bobble high with him?

Speaker 1 (41:02):
At this point? At some point I think they should
retire his number. Well, that goes without saying. I mean
that that's already locked in. Loader. Retire everybody's number. Now,
let's get page early on retire. Let's go.

Speaker 2 (41:12):
Yeah, but where do you put that? I mean, do
you put it in center field? Do you put it?

Speaker 1 (41:16):
I mean where's where's the proper place to retire? I
haven't been to that ballpark ever? Actually you haven't. I've
been to more games there than you have. How many
have you been doing one? Oh since it been this
case Mas Cowboys? Zero? How about all year time? Yeah? Oh?
Real food? Good food? What are you doing in sugar Land?
People down there? Volleyball?

Speaker 2 (41:36):
No? No, no, my mom used to live down there.
Oh okay, that's right, I forgot we go down there?
All right, let's get the second hour start of the
Matt Thomas Show. Well, with Ross, we're only here till
eleven fifty. So if you're like, hey, I really wanted
to say something to Matt and Ross, we're here for

Speaker 2 (43:25):
On Sports Talk seven ninety. We take this program today
until eleven fifty. Will we send you to forth to
West Paul Beach for the Astros and the Nationals. I
believe they're playing the Nationals the ninth time in the
last thirteen days.

Speaker 1 (43:39):
Ross how many? No, I'm just kidding. They just play
them a bunch. Okay, let's go Astros. If you broken
down the starting lineup for today's game, I didn't even
see it.

Speaker 2 (43:53):
Now, I mean you could, I mean I could run
through the names for you, but you'd.

Speaker 1 (43:58):
Be like, who, what, what do they do?

Speaker 2 (44:03):
It's fine, we got the game for you here on SEVENATI.

Speaker 1 (44:06):
Rockets and Suns.

Speaker 2 (44:07):
Tonight, we'll have it for you also here on SEVENINNI,
beginning with the launch pet at six o'clock hosted by
Rossfield Reale.

Speaker 1 (44:15):
It is far that it was no, I hope not.
I don't think so. You haven't ward framing Rockets games play.
I'm doing Friday and Saturday. All right, okay, we'll go.
We'll get you back in the arena. It'd be nice, okay.

Speaker 2 (44:28):
Rockets against the Suns. Houston has won three consecutive games.
This is a stretch where I want the Rockets to
win six out of seven, and so far they're halfway there.
Rockets again in the number five position in the West.
They are a game behind Memphis for the four spot,
not too far away from the Lakers and the Nuggets
for the two spot in the West. And honestly, they're

(44:50):
not too far away from dropping to seven. So we
don't need their six and we don't need that either,
So it is a very very tight race.

Speaker 1 (44:57):
In the Western Conference.

Speaker 2 (45:00):
Won three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven ninety uh and on
Twitter at sports empt at sports RV and at Connor
d mcgovernor anything also going on news headlines? Was I
mentioned rockets, we mentioned the Astros, all quiet onto the
Texans front at least today.

Speaker 1 (45:19):
Uh, you mentioned it Shack not knowing who the coach
of the Pistons is and then getting upset and saying
he doesn't watch the Pistons and he calls somebody called out. Yes,
that is correct. Have you ever been called boo boo
in your life? Ross? Uh? Yes, many times, Matt. It's
not a compliment.

Speaker 2 (45:38):
I mean I understand if you if you you call
your girl booboo, that's one thing is kind of a
sign of affection.

Speaker 1 (45:42):
Mm hmm uh.

Speaker 2 (45:44):
Wasn't there a booboo character? Like wasn't that Yogi Bear's
best friend booboo?

Speaker 1 (45:47):
Well, you can call something boo boo. That's also not good, Matt.

Speaker 2 (45:50):
Oh, don't need to go look at Urban Dictionary.

Speaker 1 (45:53):
Interesting. I think you can figure it out. Okay. By
the way, like babies booboo in their diaper. Oh, I see,
hey man, that fit you got on his boo boo
Ross and needs to do one thing for me. And
this is so inside baseball for us during the break,
I want you to go. Look at the tyres Halliburton
four point play that helped the Pacers sell the Bucks did.

Speaker 2 (46:14):
And by the way, for those didn't see it, there
were four players lined up on like an offensive line
for the Pacers. This is with four seconds left. They
all broke out like and receiving an offensive line. And
then Halliburton goes to the left corner launches a three
Giannis fousand. The shot goes in. They win the game
because Haliburton hits the free throw. So four point play

(46:37):
at the buzzard literally wins the game.

Speaker 1 (46:40):
Apparently we have it.

Speaker 2 (46:41):
By the way, okay, play this and then I'm gonna
give you this quick thing and again this is more
for inside baseball, but continue on here.

Speaker 1 (46:47):
Let's get the call. Pacers down three, Caliburton's got the ball.

Speaker 7 (46:52):
Caliburton, pardon catch a three head of found. You have
got to be kidding me.

Speaker 1 (47:09):
Here's my question, Ross. Did he travel? I'd have to okay,
I didn't even look for that. I can let's see catch.

Speaker 2 (47:21):
It's such a great uh uh.

Speaker 1 (47:26):
I don't think he bounces the ball. It's very close.
It looks like it is a travel Let me see,
I don't have to break this down literally framed it.

Speaker 2 (47:35):
That's why I was like, this is maybe two inside
baseball for our show here. But I looked at it
and I was like, this is incredible. And then I
look and I see there is no basketball bouncing.

Speaker 1 (47:46):
There is a slide. And look the slide step has
been It's close. It's super close. Yeah, you let that go.
It looks like it might be three steps, depending on
exactly when he catches the ball. No, I'm letting it slide.
Incredible fading reshot Connor or the time. I think it's good.
I think it's good. I would say in the moment,

(48:07):
there's no.

Speaker 2 (48:08):
Way in the world I would ever called a travel
And here we are sitting here looking at this thing.

Speaker 1 (48:14):
My you know, image by image, I don't think it's travel. Okay, Yeah,
I'm going to hide to go frame by frame. Yeah,
I don't think I wanted to.

Speaker 2 (48:23):
If you're if you have to go frame by frame
to determine something, then the call can stand.

Speaker 1 (48:27):
Right. Yeah, I don't. I think it's not a travel. Okay,
it's close.

Speaker 2 (48:34):
I would I would lean towards agreeing with you. I
just was like, am I missing?

Speaker 1 (48:38):
Am I? Am? I? Am I too?

Speaker 2 (48:40):
Caught up in the moment of being a great play
to go. Wait a minute, there was a fundamental mistake
made by the official.

Speaker 1 (48:47):
So let's see.

Speaker 2 (48:48):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety If you
want to jump into the conversation, you want to follow
us on Twitter, you may do that as well. Again,
that sports empty at sports RV and at Connor d McGovern.
Let's go to the phones. Uh, my phone system is down,
so we'll talk to there. Let's down talk to John
and Needville. Hi, John, you're on seven and good.

Speaker 8 (49:09):
Morning, right, hey guys, Yeah, that called that play. I thought,
I don't know, it's too good of a call. It's
too good of a shot, too good shot. And then
again that's a good shot and everything. But it's good
play and everything. But then again, that's the problem with
the whole MDA. That's why the NBA is the NBA. Now,
they don't call, they don't call traveling Palman. They bounced

(49:30):
the ball over their heads, they take four or five steps,
they fly, they're divas.

Speaker 1 (49:36):
Anyway, back to my original call.

Speaker 9 (49:40):
Yesterday, you had a call or call in about Brigman
and did he say he and if I'm he knew
the reasons of why Bragman wasn't coming back, correct, He
said that he used.

Speaker 2 (49:57):
To be the throw bullpen for those guys up until
two batting practice, batting practice and toxcuse me until twenty
twenty two, and that he said that.

Speaker 1 (50:08):
The really let me let me recap.

Speaker 2 (50:09):
He said, the reason why Alex Bregmant did not come
back is because he was tired of being a disrespectful
around baseball.

Speaker 1 (50:18):
And he also said that he will the they were
disrespecting the other players the Astros did, like George Springer,
Carlos Correa not giving them deals. And he threw a
name out there. That's where I'm calling bs.

Speaker 9 (50:33):
When did bel Tron leave this organization with Scott Bors?
And when did Bragman get to the organization with Scott Bores?

Speaker 1 (50:44):
Two? Four was Beltran? And then what when was Bregnant
called them fifteen sixteen? Thank you?

Speaker 9 (50:50):
So how the hell does he know how Beltron was
dealt with?

Speaker 1 (50:55):
I mean, come on, dude, you put your you put
your foot in it yesterday y'all. Y'all may not have
caught it, but when, oh we caught it, trust me,
we caught it.

Speaker 2 (51:04):
I had I had to get a call after me
that Ice smirked, and and the guy was not had
to get Ice smirked.

Speaker 1 (51:09):
So trust me, I heard the cat.

Speaker 9 (51:12):
Yeah, I heard the cat afterwards too, and he was
he was whining and crying of how you were smirking
about and that's your problem with this and that and
you radio host, dude, if.

Speaker 1 (51:23):
You don't like it, change the channel. Yeah. Thanks, John.

Speaker 2 (51:28):
We appreciate the phone call, and I want to make
sure we're very clear on this. There is a difference
between not being respected by the organization because you feel
like you're being underpaid.

Speaker 1 (51:40):
That is separate from what the caller was telling me.

Speaker 2 (51:43):
The caller was saying he was being disrespected because he's
were in the Astro uniform and when he goes to
other places he gets booed and he wants to shake
that out of his system.

Speaker 1 (51:53):
That is one hundred complete Fooie. If you're a major.

Speaker 2 (51:58):
League baseball player, you're going to be bood in every
ballpark no matter what uniform you wear, especially if you
carry the way that Alex Pregman carried himself early in
his career.

Speaker 1 (52:07):
And oh, by the way, the way that.

Speaker 2 (52:09):
The Astros have the cheating scandal attached to them. All
of a sudden, Alex Pregman is not going to be
able to go to Anaheim and play against the Angels
wearing Boston Red Sox gear, and all of a sudden
people are like.

Speaker 1 (52:23):
Oh, that's pregnant with the Red Sox. We forgot everything.

Speaker 2 (52:27):
And if you think he's gonna be able to go
to New York and get treated any easier because he's
wearing Red Sox gear over Astro gear, you're high.

Speaker 1 (52:38):
Now.

Speaker 2 (52:38):
If you want to say the Astros don't respect the
players that got them to where they are by not
giving them long term deals, I don't think the respect
is the term I would use. I would say there
is a certain financial threshold the Astros are using. And
by the way, disrespecting is not offering deals. Disrespecting is

(52:59):
well under the market value. And remember Ross and maybe
you and I will disagree on this, The Red Sox
went well above the market value for Alex Bregman, and
when you do that, you get to get the Alex Bregman.
But every other deal around baseball, for the most part,
was in line with what the Astros were willing to offer.

Speaker 1 (53:20):
Bregman to stay in Houston.

Speaker 2 (53:21):
So I don't think it was a sign of disrespect.

Speaker 1 (53:24):
It was a sign of.

Speaker 2 (53:25):
The red Sox said, short term deal, big cash opt out.

Speaker 1 (53:29):
Bregman's like, I love this opportunity. I'm going to Boston. Oh,
the Detroit deal is better, not much better. What's significantly different?

Speaker 2 (53:40):
Was it?

Speaker 1 (53:40):
Twenty five million dollars more over six years? The Astros
deal was never going to be signed, and they knew
that they did undersell them.

Speaker 2 (53:51):
Under Selling is one thing, Disrespecting is another.

Speaker 1 (53:54):
No, I didn't say he was disrespected. Yeah, he felt disrespected.
I think.

Speaker 2 (54:01):
They felt disrespected by the Detroit Tigers too. He felt
disrespected by by the Chicago Cubs too. He probably felt
disrespected by the New York Yankee. Is there anybody else?
The Seattle Mariners, I mean the Detroit Tigers.

Speaker 1 (54:11):
He thought he was gonna get a deal way bigger
than Matt Chapman's. The Astros offered what only like five
million more than Matt Chapman. Yeah, clearly his market wasn't
as big as he thought it was going to be.
But he, let me tell you something. I'm happy for Breggs.

Speaker 2 (54:27):
He got what he really is going to do really
well on this, and I'm good glad for him. But
the caller that called yesterday basically saying about that he
was tired of being disrespected around baseball.

Speaker 1 (54:40):
Is complete fully yes, And that's where I just I can't.
I can't handle it. I just can't.

Speaker 2 (54:49):
And maybe I should be better about it. And Ross,
that's what you're here for, It's to make me better.
So all right, the stew's already been made. I don't
know what I can add to it. Now, about some
more carrots real quick before we get to shut your
ballmass up. Ron in League City, Good morning, Hey, how
y'all doing amazing?

Speaker 10 (55:10):
Hey, just a point of clarification, Beltran was on the
twenty seventeen World Series team because he was one of
the ring leaders with devising his plan with Cora. That's
why Beltran didn't get that manager job with the Mets.
So just a little point of clarity there.

Speaker 1 (55:35):
Hello, thank you Ron, appreciate it. Thank you Ron. Yeah,
that's good. I mean we like information. Uh huh.

Speaker 2 (55:49):
Information is key and Beltron was as guilty as it gets.
And Beltron was a manager for the Mets for two.

Speaker 1 (55:59):
Weeks somewhere around there. Mets legend.

Speaker 2 (56:03):
Did he get did he get to even make a
decision about anything?

Speaker 1 (56:07):
I don't. I think he got his uniform size? Yeah,
I think. I think you have to choose his number.

Speaker 2 (56:11):
Yeah, all right, ROSSI, it is time for people to
shut their bomb asses up.

Speaker 1 (56:16):
Wonderful.

Speaker 2 (56:18):

Or if someone is just talking and talking and not
letting you work or not letting you get out, because
if you can go get a haircut or go get your
dry cleaning, and somebody the officers telling you about this
long drawn out story, or your wife is telling you

(58:36):

She made and all that. Anybody got time for that?

Speaker 2 (58:41):
Either nobody get tam seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven. Hoti,
we are your place for the cathartic, non judgmental shutting
a bum of people's bum asses. Here we go seven
one three two one two five Sevenemy.

Speaker 1 (58:59):
I'm starting with a member of the media. Ross, Oh
what did I do? Not you? Although you've been plenty
of it. Jeff Goodman.

Speaker 2 (59:11):
Is a basketball analyst, Covers Hoops and and founder of
Field of sixty eight.

Speaker 1 (59:18):
He used to be a big deal, but then his
takes got so bad. He got fired.

Speaker 2 (59:24):
Some dude named Drew Galloway took a photo of his
press credential. He covers Kansas State sports for on three Sports. Okay,
that's fine. He took a picture of his press crenial.
He is high above the American Airline Center in Dallas
or me. It's Sprint Center in Kansas City, where the
tournament is. Goodman retweets him and says, this is why

(59:45):
media shouldn't even bother going to the Big Twelve tournament.
Much more beneficial to just watch on television. So poor
Jeff Goodman doesn't get a mid court seat to broadcast,
to watch the media, or attend a sporting event when
he probably has been to only three or four Big

(01:00:05):
Twelve games this entire season. Jeff Goodman, shit, Jo bumass
something man, Shit Jo bum ass up man. The people
that should be down there close to the game are
a the regular beat writers, be the broadcasters.

Speaker 1 (01:00:20):
They get a decent.

Speaker 2 (01:00:21):
View of things and see the fans who actually paid
their own money to go watch their team playing Kansas City.

Speaker 1 (01:00:29):
I Media. You suck, Jeff Goodman. You suck.

Speaker 2 (01:00:33):
Stop complaining about your freak press creantchel and your free
arena and your travel expenses taken care of.

Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
You have to sit in the upper deck. Oh, poor
as you.

Speaker 2 (01:00:44):
It's a sixteen team tournament in a seventeen thousand seed arena.

Speaker 1 (01:00:47):
Get over it. Shut your bump ass up, shit, Jo,
bum ass up. Man terrible and I'm going to go
after our own. But I'm just I mean, we got
some entitled media. I mean, I'm in I don't know
a certain extent. I'm trying to broadcast a game.

Speaker 2 (01:01:04):
I don't need to be doing it from the love
Field Tower in Dallas, a broadcast at Mavericks game.

Speaker 1 (01:01:07):
But that's a different issue for a different time. You
poor baby is poor. I can't see the game. That's
a difference. You're doing a great job. Thank you. We're
all proud of you. Brousse does the matter with you?
You know what, I'm gonna go to our good friend
screaming a Smith. He got into the altercation with Lebron James.
We all saw the video. He didn't say one word

(01:01:30):
to his face about anything. He tries to say. All
that wasn't the time or the place. Lebron is right
in your face talking to you. And now he's going
on like eight shows. He's done like eight State of
the Union addresses about it, and he's building this all
up and using this as a trampoline to get himself
some more shine, and you didn't say anything until Lebron's face.

(01:01:51):
Ain't nobody got time for that, steven A. Smith. Ain't
nobody got time for it. I'll go one further. Shut
your ball ass up, Stephen Smith.

Speaker 2 (01:02:00):
Don't tell me about your life story with you and Lebron.

Speaker 1 (01:02:02):
Nobody cares shit, So bum ass up, man, and.

Speaker 2 (01:02:05):
Shut your bumbass up Lebron James.

Speaker 1 (01:02:07):
You gotta promise steven A. Smith call him.

Speaker 2 (01:02:10):
You knew what you were doing by going out there
and antagonizing him during the game.

Speaker 1 (01:02:14):
You wanted people to see him take video of it.

Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
You could have called steven A and said you had
a problem with the way he's talking about Brownie, but no.

Speaker 1 (01:02:21):
You want to make sure people saw you. So shut
your bumbass up.

Speaker 3 (01:02:24):
Shit jobum ass up, man.

Speaker 1 (01:02:28):
God. I love this segment. It's a good y'all want
to jump in.

Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
Let's go seven one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven.

Speaker 1 (01:02:39):
Ninety Connor, what's the matter with you?

Speaker 5 (01:02:42):
Well, you guys are kind of fire you this morning.
Mine's a little bit more low key. It's kind of
specific to my situation.

Speaker 1 (01:02:47):
In my age.

Speaker 5 (01:02:48):
I've been looking to try and book a beach kind
of like a beach house thing for a weekend, and
I'm looking on Airbnb, uh and damn, and they require
a lot of the places for are you to be
twenty five and up for booking?

Speaker 1 (01:03:02):
And I'm twenty four, So again unique to my situation.

Speaker 5 (01:03:06):
But most of the time you can just email the
owner and be like, hey, I'm twenty four, I don't
have them as many people, and then usually it's okay.

Speaker 1 (01:03:11):
But we found this one that we really liked.

Speaker 5 (01:03:13):
It was it was nice and cheap, but it looked nice,
it was close to the beach, had all the flights
ready to go, and I messaged him and they said, no,
I couldn't book it because I was twenty four and
not twenty five.

Speaker 1 (01:03:21):
So anybody got time for that? I have good rating
on Airbnb.

Speaker 5 (01:03:25):
Why what's if you're trying to deter college students, make
it twenty three?

Speaker 1 (01:03:29):
Then like the bars and the heights, anybody got typed
for that?

Speaker 2 (01:03:32):
I don't day now, So you're telling me some airbnbs
are twenty five and summer not is that what you're
telling us?

Speaker 1 (01:03:38):
A lot of them are on Airbnb? Are you have
to be twenty five to.

Speaker 2 (01:03:41):
Book because you said you got a good rating? How
do you have a good rating if you've not been
able to rent.

Speaker 5 (01:03:44):
Before I've done I mean I have a good rating
on Verbo, and then I have done Airbnb before, and
some of them are eighteen or like I've said, you've
messaged him before and you're like, hey, I'm twenty three,
I'm twenty four.

Speaker 2 (01:03:53):
Oh I see, Yeah, I ran that same promise a
young broadcast run. I used to try to rank cars
when I was calling games. Before I was twenty five,
I couldn't get a rental car. And then they've been
charge at fifty hours surcharge because I was under twenty five.

Speaker 1 (01:04:07):
That's because you young kids are unpredictable.

Speaker 2 (01:04:10):
Yeah, went down. When's your birthday? December first? Ooh damn
I have your birthday?

Speaker 5 (01:04:16):
Yeah, so just a nobody get time for that poor guy.

Speaker 1 (01:04:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:04:24):
I mean we kind of feel bad for you, not
really understand, and a lot of people listening are not
You can't really relate.

Speaker 3 (01:04:30):
But.

Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
Why don't you lie on the age about how old
you are not going to check your idea, are they?

Speaker 1 (01:04:36):
I guess that's true.

Speaker 2 (01:04:38):
That okay, somebody in life a little bit.

Speaker 1 (01:04:42):
Yeah, everybody tell you average person lives four times. I
met Thomas Life Book of Life. It's chapter one lying.

Speaker 2 (01:04:49):
I mean, as long as you don't destroy the property,
you're gonna be a good shape.

Speaker 1 (01:04:53):
And I mean, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:04:54):
I don't know your crew, but I met your girl,
and you don't do they take your ida on Airbnb
or anything like that.

Speaker 1 (01:04:59):
That's what I don't think, so it definitely forgot they did. Yeah. Yeah,
by the way, Matt Brian McTaggart saying Lince mccullor Junior
said he hit ninety four miles an hour on the go. Oh,
great Fruit League game Tuesday. You better write that bad
boy down. Stop. He's fine.

Speaker 2 (01:05:22):
So mean you're telling me he's gonna play in a
real game.

Speaker 1 (01:05:26):
Uh, He's next step is a Great Food League game schedule.
They're looking at Tuesday, targeting Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (01:05:34):
Okay, we might have to do a live listening on
that bad boy.

Speaker 1 (01:05:38):
Is it a day game or a night game? I
don't even know, pro I don't know. Well, guess day game.
But who knows point being all right? Okay, well that's
great news. I'm still saying May fifteenth. And I hope
I'm wrong. I hope I'm way. I told you to
be optimistic.

Speaker 2 (01:05:52):
Matt Well, they called me up, misdroptimistic.

Speaker 1 (01:05:55):
He could get elbow discomfort on Tuesday. We'll see.

Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
That's not don't put that in there. That's not nice thing.
He could not thing he's going to Okay, all right, Uh,

And he's going to the card of well it helps
out the.

Speaker 1 (01:09:05):
Mid major teams.

Speaker 2 (01:09:06):
Well, you know what, You're not a mid major, We're
a power for conference, he says.

Speaker 1 (01:09:13):
I six teams for a national championship. Can you imagine
that you're looking for the one best team in the
country and you're you're using seventy six teams to find
the one best team in the country. How absurd does
that sound?

Speaker 2 (01:09:29):
He says, Take the top net sixty teams and the
other sixteen low major conference automatic qualifiers, so teams like Pittsburgh, Nebraska,
and North Texas can get in.

Speaker 1 (01:09:43):
I mean, come on, what are we doing?

Speaker 3 (01:09:48):
What?

Speaker 1 (01:09:48):
I mean, what are we doing? When? When did we.

Speaker 2 (01:09:53):
In the world of sports just say we have to
change everything?

Speaker 1 (01:09:58):
Now?

Speaker 2 (01:09:59):
Most of the change in sports in the last twenty
five years has been for the.

Speaker 1 (01:10:02):
Better, but some things have not.

Speaker 2 (01:10:07):
I mean, you know what it is, ross It is
about money because it's an extra layer of games. It's
an extra layer bets for Las Vegas. I don't mind that.
But problem is that all betting on basketball. It's just
it's it's not fun for me. I don't have any
enjoyment or whatsoever. I've bet some college games when I

(01:10:27):
was in New Orleans last week. It's not fun. It's
just not because you could have one team blown somebody
out by twenty two points, the line is fifteen. They
put their scrubs in and they wind up winning by
fourteen points.

Speaker 1 (01:10:39):
Yeah, tournament's fun, though. Tournament's different because every game is
an e limum maybe game, so maybe it's better. Maybe.

Speaker 2 (01:10:45):
So I just look, we've gone through We've gone from
a seventeen team seventeen NFL schedule. We're gonna get an
eighteen we've gone from. You know, we're gonna get an
automatic ball strike system in place here, which probably hasn't
been terrible. We haven't heard much about it, actually, but

(01:11:05):
I guess the news is if we don't hear much
about it, it's gonna be working.

Speaker 1 (01:11:08):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:11:12):
We've seen uniform changes, we've seen logo changes, we've seen
stadiums change. We now have additional fourteen more teams and
tournament or is it seventy six will.

Speaker 1 (01:11:22):
Be what a more teams?

Speaker 2 (01:11:24):
I guess eight is subtle ross. If it goes in
ninety six where it completes a whole brand new bracket.

Speaker 1 (01:11:29):
We can just probably just quit and stop watching. Right,
it's ridiculous. Sixty eight is already too many. Quite frankly,
are those those playing games?

Speaker 2 (01:11:39):
I mean, that's a layer of TV dollars, It just is.
And if the NCAA is going to pay, If these
networks T and T and CBS are going to pay
a billion dollars a year, what's a billion five among friends?
Add ten more teams and nobody cares about in the
hopes that maybe one or two of those teams create
some sort of surprise.

Speaker 1 (01:11:57):
Yeah, you know what looks let's do it. Actually, that
way Texas can get in.

Speaker 2 (01:12:03):
By the way, are you guys still first four out?

Speaker 1 (01:12:06):
I don't know. I don't care. They're they're dogs. Did
later today to Vanderbilt. Where's the Texas Basketball watch party? Uh,
it's at the It's also actually it's a tandem. It's
the Fire Rodney Terry and Texas Basketball watch Party.

Speaker 2 (01:12:23):
You know what I'm helping for, No, honestly now is
for you guys to win the tournament.

Speaker 1 (01:12:28):
So we get the SEC tournament. Yeah, the SEC Tournament. Yeah,
you're not. There's no chance of that. Yeah. And I'm
also gonna win the power Ball and the Mega Millions
this week.

Speaker 2 (01:12:38):
Wait a minute, you're telling me that Texas can't put
together four amazing days of basketball.

Speaker 1 (01:12:44):
Okay, you're probably right, but I bet you why I
get you. If you get to the championship game, you'll
get in. I don't care. Oh, I like I said,
I want. I want Trey Johnson to make it because
he's a great player, and he's a five star player
who chose Texas and he deserves better. But other than that, whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:13:03):
All right, the two big names that are being brought
up as potential Texas replacements for Rodney Perry.

Speaker 1 (01:13:08):
Vandeed he gets bumped. Okay, Billy Donovan.

Speaker 2 (01:13:12):
What of the Chicago Bulls formerly of Oklahoma City and
before that Florida and would take and Quinn Snyder the
current coach of the Atlanta Hawks.

Speaker 1 (01:13:23):
Quinn wasn't he? Quinn was mid at Missoo? Wasn't he
just saying, just saying, what is Quinn's greatest accomplishment as
a coach?

Speaker 2 (01:13:35):
Uh? You taught of the playoffs a few times? Yeah,
it was like he needed to sleep in the worst way.

Speaker 1 (01:13:41):
He always just looks like the the chevel, the evil
henchman in a in a kids movie.

Speaker 2 (01:13:47):
Yeah, I think back in the day she he was
on one of Kim's five top five list.

Speaker 1 (01:13:53):
I'll tell you, Uh, I've heckled Quinn Snyder when he
was a player or as a coach, when he was
at Missoo. You heckled him. Yes, you were a grown
ass man? Were you not in the student section I
was in? You were not a grown ass man. You
were an immature punk kid. That's yeah, that's a true story,

(01:14:14):
all right, the whole student section And what was your
best heckle. I don't even remember. I was just we
were just saying Quinn and yelling at Quinn, what are
you doing Quinn? And shut up Quinn? Stuff like that.
Nothing al so the really good mature then you used. Yeah,
all right. I was on the side of the student
section that was pretty close to him, and we were
just all yelling at Quinn.

Speaker 2 (01:14:35):
My worst heckle was the Dodgers reliever Don Assi Aas
calling him something that was not his last name. Oh jeez,
and unfortunately he passed a couple of years later. Not
the piss of my insult, but just in general.

Speaker 1 (01:14:49):
Mm hmm. I'm not a heckler, Yeah, I mean I
was twenty probably twenty one, probably not sober. Let's compared
to where you are twenty years later. I am sober
right now you are. That's right as.

Speaker 2 (01:15:06):
You're watching Kim Can I text you during the Texas
basketball game today?

Speaker 1 (01:15:09):
Is that okay? Just giving up to say how are
you feeling? That kind of stuff? If you start, If
you start before the game and then text throughout, I'll
let you do it. If I only hear from you,
if they lose, I'm gonna want to choke you out
all right, you're the best. I won't know. I'm not.
You're not getting anything from me. All right, back to wrap.
