I love this movie.
Speaker 6 (01:51):
I never thought it's a good It's fantastic Dirty Danson. Yes,
nobody puts baby in the corner. Jonathan, I met your girl.
Your girl would melt like butter if you put on
Dirty Dancing on date night. Movie I need And it's
(02:13):
not aged because it was going back to Rutcher anyway.
So now is it like the original foot Looos? Because
we talked a watch't that?
Speaker 2 (02:18):
And that was that was going.
Speaker 6 (02:20):
I was not a big Footloose fan either. I'm a
big dirty dancing guy. Patrick Swayze may he rests, I've
never seen either. Actually, Footloots don't waste your time? Yeah
time at all. Yeah, dirty Dancing I could watch yearly. Okay,
Jennifer great pre nose job and postnose job, delightful in
both situations. Okay, and I mean a nose job Bill
(02:44):
Medley and Jennifer warns. I believe is in the new
one of this?
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Sure? Why not? It's the eighties? Is a good turntoime
a little bit more.
Speaker 6 (02:52):
It is an eighties cheese jam. Turn it up a
little bit more because we got people that are really.
I mean, there is a lot of angst in the community,
and it ain't about the bills in Texas to a
future Hall of Famer has been traded away yet again
(03:12):
from the Houston Astros. Well, I've got an interesting argument
for you, okay, and it comes to somebody on Twitter.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Oh okay, so you know what Twitter.
Speaker 6 (03:25):
Is not a cesspool twenty four to seven. Yeah, I mean,
it's well, it is. It's just it's just you have
to be more selected when you go looking for that stuff.
By the way, excellent job by you, Jonathan again Dirty Dancing.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
Go see it.
Speaker 6 (03:36):
I promise you will be waking up the next morning
with a smile on your face. Hmm, because he'll enjoy
the movie so much. Okay, Okay, you know what today today?
Seriously I would I wouldn't now, No, you get the
Texans game.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
No this weekend. Here's what I want.
Speaker 6 (03:55):
I want a full report from you by Monday, and
how much you love Dirty Dancing?
Speaker 2 (04:00):
All right, So let's get to it, okay.
Speaker 6 (04:03):
So, needless to say that the social media streets are
losing their mind over this, generally speak, especially the initial
reaction which I was surprised as well. Yeah, I mean,
somebody asked us, They said, did you guys even to talk
about this? I thought I thought urreus me being dfaied,
not being offered a contract would was the sign that
no nontender, Yeah, would be the sign to say, all right,
(04:24):
Dubond's going to stick around. Yes, And then the bombshell.
I mean, I don't know if it's a bombshell, but
for Astro fans, a bombshell happened during I was calling
the Rockets Cavaliers game, and I'm just looking at my
Twitter's timel. I think it was maybe during commercial break
or during a halftime or something, and man, oh man,
I mean people were losing their m f in minds.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
So it made me look at it a little bit.
Speaker 6 (04:47):
And you know, Ross, we as sports fans forgetting about
you and I having the microphone in front of us.
We do belabor the point that we have lost our
fandom of particular players, that the players just move on
from team to team and we just go, oh, okay,
that's he's going.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Uh huh.
Speaker 6 (05:05):
But there are Astro fans that loved Mauricio Dubon, So
if they're upset, I'm gonna tell you how something. It's
gonna be Okay, the sun's gonna rise tomorrow and the
Astros are gonna find somebody of comparable talent.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
But if you're a fan favorite, you're a fan favorite.
Speaker 6 (05:22):
Now, what I don't want you is, I don't want
you to say this team is screwed and the team
is decined for one hundred lost season. That's not fair.
That's putting too much on Marisa to Duban. But if
you are upset disappointed because of a guy that, you
know what, utility guys like we were talking about with
backup quarterbacks, fans gravitate towards them for a variety of reasons.
It's funny we were talking about it was it literally yesterday.
(05:44):
Yeah about people. Well, that guy that called in and
wanted out to they traded because Dubon was hitting.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
So well correct a couple of years ago. The reality is.
Speaker 6 (05:53):
This, and Ross is more of a numbers person than
I am. He's going to run through the numbers of
Mauricio Dubon and when he reads that them, you're gonna
be like if I would have changed his name to
Bart Jones, Bar Jones, Okay, you'd been like Bart Jones
seems like a nice fellow. I don't want to Jones,
(06:13):
I don't want Tom.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
On my team.
Speaker 6 (06:15):
Uh well, du Bono's actually a plus player. Last year
for the Astros, he had to play because of the
defense right offense was terrible, and he did hit seven
home runs. But at the end of the day, he
is replaceable. But he does have value, and that's why
I thought the Astros were going to keep him, because
he has in He can play the infield, he can
play the outfield, he plays everywhere. He is beloved in
(06:38):
that clubhouse, beloved by everyone in the organization because he's
a sweetheart. He's a nice guy, but he's got a
little red ass in him too, which I appreciated.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
Yes, And I will also say this, I appreciate Maurice U.
Speaker 6 (06:48):
Duman because when we go and we cover these playoffs series,
you know, I'm not there one.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
Hundred and sixty two like some of the beat guys.
Speaker 6 (06:54):
But there are people that will not talk to the
media after bad losses or if they have a bad
they will stall, They'll be in the shower for an hour.
They don't want to face the music. And you know
who was always there ready to answer in good times
and bad Mauricio Dubon, and to me that is the
mark of a person of great character. And Mauricio Dubon
will be missed, yes again, defensively at multiple positions, hard
(07:21):
to replace, not irreplaceable, but hard to replace. If you
go by Fangraft's war, he was their seventh best player,
and that includes pictures. If you take out pictures, the
only position players better than him where now this is,
of course, was because of injuries as well, where Jeremy
pania Esak Paradist and Jake Myers all who were hurt
(07:48):
by the way at some point last year. So he
was important for you. Again, I have value. Every team
has value in guys that play multiple positions, that don't
insist on being the starre in line up every day.
But if you put them in as long as it's
not every single day of the rest of this season,
you feel like there is a chance that you're gonna
have a chance to compete. I mean, I remember growing,
(08:08):
you know, in the nineties, when the Astros got you know,
we're playing good baseball, winning divisions on a seven regular basis.
People loved Bill Spiers because he would do a third,
a little short, little outfield, a little first base, never
a great bat, but just a solid all around major
league baseball player. Yeah, we can go through the list
of Bill Spiers. I don't know, Orlando Palmero, Marwin Gonzalez,
Jeff Blum, Jeff, I mean, there's a great examine. Jeff
(08:31):
Blum is beloved by this team, even though he hit
the home run for the White Sox. But the point
being is that he was a guy that didn't ask
for super mega money. But there is money, and this
is a business, and the reality is what the Astors
are getting back in return is not even close to
what the Astros are giving the breaks.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
Nick Allen, if.
Speaker 6 (08:51):
You thought dubond was bad at the plate, whoo, this
dude's ops last year was five thirty five in one
hundred and thirty games. It's not like he just got
off to a bad start and got hurt. I'm gonna
tell you how Nick Allen's day went.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
Yesterday.
Speaker 6 (09:05):
Nick Allen got a phone call from the Braves. And
when it says Atlanta Braves in your call already, You're like,
oh crap, I'm getting released. They're not going to tender
me a contract. I've got arbitration years left and I'm
gonna have to go work for the sup fall Sky sucks.
Never in a million years did Nick Allen think he
was going to get traded to the Houston Astros. That
(09:28):
was not on his quote unquote bingo card. I'm gonna
do something that maybe I shouldn't. Yes, I'm about to
compare his ops to Martine Moldonado's. Okay, no other station
in the marketplace is doing this, so just know that
when somebody else tries to do this, it was our
show that did this more than anybody else. Oh my god,
(09:48):
he's been worse his ops plus folks, So those who
don't know, one hundred is league average. He was right
fifty three last year, yes, fifty five career. Maldonado's career
is sixty nine m h and as a Houston Astro
it was never that bad. Because here's the thing, maldon
(10:09):
I don't had a little bit of pop. I don't
think this guy out as last year. Yeah, here's here's
what it is. This is this year's example of Brendan Rodgers,
just literally finding a guy that's got a good glove,
no bad, no excitement, no energy, and oh, by the way, again.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
You shaved payroll.
Speaker 6 (10:29):
The Astros have made it a concerted decision not to
spend that kind of money that he was due to
him in our Was it final year of arbitration? I
think for Dumon, Yes, it was supposed to be according
to MLB trade roomer. Now this is via Chandler Rome
who was putting it out there. Five point eight million
projected for Dubon and I think it's one point five
million for Nick Allen. Okay, so you are literally saving
(10:51):
four million dollars. Clearly, Dana Brown has been told if
you want to improve this baseball team in certain areas
i e. Starting pitching, i e. Trying to maybe solidify
the outfield, you're going to have to shave somewhere else.
And they said, there's a quick opportunity to save four
million dollars, and you do it with Maurso Dubon. Yeah,
(11:15):
this is plus defender, negative hitter. This is a domino.
Where are the other dominoes? And what will they be
and how will they fall?
Speaker 2 (11:25):
We'll see.
Speaker 6 (11:25):
Now, you guys, as decent Astro fans, know there's no way,
know how, no chance the Astros are done with.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
Their posts of their off season moves.
Speaker 6 (11:33):
In fact, My guess is it's spreading been pretty lively
as it is, probably the chances are to be even
more lively in the next few weeks, and then maybe
something that made you go, wow, that's that's interesting, that's
kind of cool. Now it could be underwoman guy, a
underwoman guy, and B. But you are a roster filling.
You are also trying to You are trying to put
together a major league Baseball pitching rotation that's got tremendous
question marks after the number one spot. Yeah, I think
(11:55):
this is the first of several I don't want to
say major moves, but big moves.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
I don't even.
Speaker 6 (12:01):
Necessarily think I'd have to be called big. I think
there's gonna be several moves. They need to fill out
a roster. They're not done trading any of Esak Paratus
or Christian Walker HEYESU Shanchez. I mean a lower probability
of Jeremy Pania, Jake Myers. Jake Myers can be traded
any of those guys. Dana Brown will be listening to
(12:22):
offers on and then you need to You need to
figure something out with pitching, whether it be via trade
or probably free agency. It feels like can we just
go ahead and start stocking all the sporting good stores
with justin verlandard number thirty five jerseys. And I'm gonna
already went and bought a white belt yesterday. Okay, Yeah,
it feels like we can start doing that. Seriously, when
I if we go to spring training next year and
I warn the white belt, JV's gonna be like, dude,
(12:44):
that looks good. Okay, what else are you gonna be wearing.
I haven't determined that yet, but I'm I swear to
guy I warn a white belt. All right, we're gonna
hold you can. He's gonna notice it, and he's gonna okay, dude,
you are night. And then he's gonna come on the show.
Well you'll be traveling with the Rockets something. Well, he's
gonna be asking how big our audience is? We got
the rocket schedule. Yeah, it works out. It always works
(13:05):
out that way because it's all it's always during All
Star break. Okah, yeah, well you weren't there two years ago. Yeah,
it's because I we wanted Dan to go to you
guys a bond.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
It's great.
Speaker 6 (13:14):
I'm sure it was fantastic. Ten fifteen on the Matt
Thomas show at ross. What just checking make sure we're on.
I think we're on. I was just double checking. It
looks like we're on. I'm glad you're here in study.
You sound great, Matt in stereo sound.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
I was here.
Speaker 6 (13:36):
Uh yeah, a good trip to Cleveland. I am dog
ass tire. But this is this is the life I choose,
so I'm not gonna complain about it. I have an
important question. Yes, did you wander back into the casino
or are we all get No, we just did it
one time. It's one seventy and out. Oh that's beautiful.
A little hitting when you get a little hit and
run on the casino, that's a great fu. I'll tell
you the name of the casino is Jack Casino. It
has taken me for That was my tenth straight year
(13:57):
going because we've been doing this for ten years. Okay,
I taking me for over two grand over the years. Okay,
So I feel like I got the plus one seventy
and got out, just did well fine, and I felt
dirty whore because you know, I'm not a I'm not
as nearly as a negative nancy when it comes to
six five black jack. But you have taught me to
smirch it to ridicule it, but I still played and
(14:18):
still won. Well, I mean, you can have whatever attitude
you want. The math is the math.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
Yeah, maths math is the twenty one. They still pay me,
so I was very happy about that.
Speaker 6 (14:25):
Okay seven one three two one two five seven nintie

Speaker 2 (15:18):

Speaker 6 (15:20):

(15:46):
but he back. Mike McDonald's back. The two lead other
lead singers are all there. Yeah, they're all They just celebrated. Yes,
really go to break. Sorry sorry Jonathan seven one three
two one two five seven out All right? If you're
a Doobie brother, how are you feeling? Seven three two
one two five seven. I'm trying to find a gift
(16:07):
of Mauricio Duban all the Giant scare, Isn't it weird?
Speaker 2 (16:12):
You would think somebody would from the astro fan would
have put something in there.
Speaker 6 (16:17):
Really everything is the giants, and he was very expressive.
He had a lot of funny moments, shaking his head,
always shaking his head at yord on ALV resitting home runs.
There's this good one of him rubbing his belly.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
Yeah, how does that?
Speaker 6 (16:29):
How do you get gifts into the into your phone?
Somebody have to just and put them in. What depends
on what app you're on. Well, I'm on the Apple Apple.
What are you texting somebody? Or Oh, I'm just gonna
I'm just I'm gonna put a Twitter out there, Okay,
And then yeah, it's probably from Twitter, and they usually
get him from either tenor or some other website.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
I can't remember what it is.
Speaker 6 (16:49):
Apparently, Mauricio Duban put out something on Instagram. Thank you, Houston,
old man. Hold on, Oh here we go, hold on,
hold on, hold on, well we'll find something.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
Hold on, Okay, I'm holding on. Keep forkidding the name?
Do you the superbug? Here we go? Thank you Houston,
giving me a home again. Want to need it? It most.
Speaker 6 (17:14):
You embraced a kid from Honduras and made him feel
like he belongs my family, and I will be forever grateful.
I'll always have Houston in my heart. What the hell

Speaker 9 (17:51):
Oh wait, Marisa Lebum was the one that hit that
walk off on Father's Day?
Speaker 2 (17:55):
Right boy? You're sure? No sounds good to me.
Speaker 1 (17:59):
No.
Speaker 9 (17:59):
I was at that game. Now I'm said, okay, you
weren't said before that, like you know, I have no
memories and not like dang, I do have a memory
that you have no emotions?
Speaker 10 (18:09):
Do you?
Speaker 11 (18:10):
Kids?
Speaker 2 (18:10):
They don't have any emotions.
Speaker 6 (18:12):
He's gonna get paid walk off on June fifteenth? Yeah,
I think so. Now I'm sad, all right, sorry about that.
Hope everything's well with you?
Speaker 11 (18:22):
What was that?
Speaker 2 (18:23):
That was a sprite? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (18:25):
Sorry?
Speaker 2 (18:26):
Thursday?
Speaker 6 (18:26):
Okay, I'm a little parsh. I any get much last
night commercial? This product placement right now? It should be
we were on Race Cold refresh Ek Sprite Spray zero
by the way, Okay, the I want to go with
I'm gonna say.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Better than coke zero is the best sugar is sugar?
Speaker 6 (18:43):
Yeah, I really never had it, so whatever, And it's
good because I'm trying. I drink too much caffeine some
of my coffee, so I figure I go with the spring,
will be better off. Okay, well I am chucking, but
I'm gonna need a coffee here in about ten minutes.
I think, good, good game last night for the right
thank you. Uh okay, that was on a bump in
the entire flight, which was nice.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
That's good. Yeah, and the Rockets won.
Speaker 6 (19:05):
And uh what a strange third quarter scoring only seventeen
but scoring forty to the fourth because like I drowed
up in the NBA beating a very good Cleveland Cavaliers team, yep,
five in a row. I don't want to be mister
recency biased.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
I'll hold up. You made oka one o'clock today, Now
you may speak.
Speaker 6 (19:26):
This is the best I've felt about Rockets basketball since
about twenty nineteen, maybe twenty twenty, when remember when they
went five out and Russell they traded for Robert Covington
and Russell Westbrook started playing really well as a Rocket
and unfortunately they couldn't win in the bubble because well,
the Lakers were better, and also because Russell Westbrook had
like a quad injury or something like that. Like this,
(19:48):
I felt really good. I might even feel better about
this team than that one right now. I just don't
want to get ahead of myself, but this is the
best I've felt about Rocket basketball in like six years.
I'm feeling good. May I give you what I'm feeling
right now? So I land yesterday, we get I think
I get my car shive of two o'clock, an ESPN
(20:09):
radio does their top calls of the night, a play
of different things, and we had a good game. We
didn't have anything that went down the wire, so I
didn't make it, but I did hear myself on the
ESPN radio they were playing highlights of my calls from
last night's.
Speaker 2 (20:21):
Game, and I'm like, man, this is fun. The Rockets
have won five.
Speaker 7 (20:24):
In a row.
Speaker 6 (20:25):
They went to Cleveland. It's a team they very well
could play in June. Cleveland's considered a contender in the
Eastern Conference. And then right after my highlights were played,
they played the highlights of the Oklahoma City Thunder, who.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
Are fifteen and then one.
Speaker 6 (20:42):
So recency bias in play my heart belongs to the Rockets. Yes,
we got to do something about getting these thunder. Other way,
we got to create an injury. We got to go
Nancy Tanya Harding on them or something, because yeah, you
want to take.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
A crowbar to shake gilges Alexander's knee? Yes?
Speaker 3 (21:04):
Wow?
Speaker 6 (21:05):
Or perhaps maybe maybe food poisoning of some sort to
Isaiah Hartenstein, Well we'll see what happens. A lot of
those guys have frail bodies. It is the NBA. Everybody's
going down with injuries now. That also happen to the
Houston Rockets. And yes, and that's that's the parallel to
what I'm even talking about. That era of Rockets basketball.
(21:27):
There was always they were a big dog, but there
was just the bigger dog and the Warriors around that time.
I think the Rockets are right now playing like the
second best team in the West. I want them to
be the number one team in the West. We need
food poisoning. The Denver Nuggets are in that as well.
You look at the Denver Nuggets are eleven and three,
Rockets are ten and three. They have basically the same
point differential eleven point five and eleven point four. They're
(21:49):
also number two and three in net rating, So it's
gonna be right now. The best three teams in basketball
are the thunder Nuggets, and Rockets, and they're all in
the same conference, and the Nuggets are gonna be hearing
them all night. I mean game huge, in a huge
eralt win game for the rock No, no, maybe you
must win for their NBA Cup hopes. Oh it is
(22:09):
they lose their out, okay, because there's a big logjam
with all the teams in one loss.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
So yeah, you're right.
Speaker 6 (22:15):
On Prime Video and Sports Talk seven ninety eight to
thirty start betweens eight forty five ish. Yeah, I thought
Prime Video was going to try to start their stuff
on time.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
Was that peacock?
Speaker 6 (22:28):
I don't know, but they still games are seven o'clock,
they're seven ten. Like in baseball, bat gets it right away.
NBA just can we just be on time? Just say
seven ten? The Astros say seven to ten. Baseball says
it when I say seven. First pitch, Somber starting and
he's getting in his extra warm ups.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
Yeah, so he's more of a seven thirteen guy.
Speaker 6 (22:49):
Yeah, ten thirty On Sports Talk seven eighty coming up
today at eleven o'clock, Brian McTaggart on the Doobie situation.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
Was he a Dubie brother? Of course he was absolutely.
Speaker 8 (22:59):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (23:00):
Eleven thirty, I just I just don't it's today Thursday
or Friday. Today's at Thursday. I just don't get it.
At eleven thirty, I rely on you for those things.
I'm just these all these days meshed together.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (23:09):
And at one o'clock we'll visit with them. A Dooka
rockets goats to join us. We got tags and mctag
I mean uh, and U Dooka and Willie Fritz At
one thirty four are Houston Cougar's top twenty five ranked. Yes,
big game of td E c U against TCU. Boy,
are a lot of letters.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
In that mix.
Speaker 2 (23:27):
Yeah, it's a little wordy.
Speaker 6 (23:29):
And you got that soup seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven ninety If you're a Doobie brother.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
How you feeling? Seed thirty six sports took seventy.
Speaker 6 (23:40):
We'll get more on the Doobie stuff coming up. At
eleven o'clock. We have Texans and Into Bills tonight. Ross
is already in his battle red gear, ready to go.
Texans and the bills. It's kind of hard to get
through the door with these shoulder pads on, but I
made it spiky shoulder pads.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
Texans swarm, Baby, let's go.
Speaker 6 (24:01):
So we use the same what do you call when
you walk up a plane the stair staircate not staircase?
What would it be a what steps for it? I
can't recall what it is. I'm what you're saying, So
we use So we we are playing parks at the
same exact spot where the textans take off, an intercontinental airport,
(24:22):
and every other row on the way up, on the
stairs there's a textan swarm. Loll go oh really, so
Demiko's trying to get that stairs, boarding stairs, boarding stairs.
I think it was another jet bridge. No jet bridge
is the walkway. I'm talking about the little of the
steps that go up. And we'll go with the air
stair airstairs. That sounds cool, Yeah, that sounds good. But yeah,
(24:46):
and if you're on the first step you see textan swarm.
You see in the third step you see text and
swarm rockets. Players are like, what is this? And I
try to explain it to him, Uh huh, Well they
got a swarming defense Matt and we hating textans swarm.
They do a swarming defense. It's a great baby's getting
swarmed on both sides. Their quarterbacks getting swarmed every game too. Yeah,
I mean it's a lot of swarming the teams. The
(25:06):
game's gonna be close tonight because of the textas defense,
because of offense. Well, if one team's gonna pull away, though,
it won't be the Texans. I don't think it's gonna
be Kymie Fairbaron back in action, ready to go. The
quad is fine, it's gonna kick his way to a Texans. Well,
it's gonna be a seven point loss. Buffalo is winning tonight.
We'll see, Yes, we will. That's why they play the games, Baby.
(25:29):
They don't play the games on paper, They play them
on grass. Will you please send out fifteen tweets per
hour in the game. I try to tweet more during
these games. Why we're watching them? Are you gonna give
me commentary? You can give me pop out play? Well,
because Matt, we need to grow the brand of the show. Yeah,
get more eyeballs on us, or get more earballs on
(25:51):
get pissed off. Actually, I'm new people for several hours,
and I understand we're watching it.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
I don't.
Speaker 6 (25:56):
I don't need to tell me it was a great
pass player. Six hours I see it. Not everybody watching it,
though some people aren't. Some people I catch up on
games from via tweets. If you are following sports people
in Houston, the chances of you watching the game that
I are probably ninety percent. Well, what if you want
to go to the grocery store and you want to
catch up saying no, no, there's plenty of reasons to
go and check somebody's tweets or see somebody's tweets.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
If you're not able to see the game, Uh, maybe
you need remote for you dot biz.
Speaker 6 (26:20):
You're at a restaurant that doesn't have the game on,
you want to kind of see what's happening. I always,
I want to say always, but I often check. For example,
during an Astros game, what did Brian mctagger say about it?
What did Chandel the room say about it? I do
that all the time. Okay, teach your tone. Like I said,
there's there's an audience for it. Yeah, I just don't
need it. I know I'm watching the game. I got
my little fifteen pages. Mister analysis. Well no, no, no, no, no, no, no, No,
(26:46):
I'm the inside. No you're not the insider. Yes I am.
When I haven't seen you break one story in my
note care, I did break stories. I told you that CJ.
Garter Johnson sucked. I told you that Stefon Diggs was
gonna be terrible.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
I told you.
Speaker 6 (26:59):
I didn't tell you that's a cl I'm tired.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
I'm sick and tired of bracking a bout myself on
this stuff.
Speaker 6 (27:05):
Yeah, I'm sick and tired of it too, especially when
it's not warranted. Good God, Jonathan. People called in and say,
what can I speak to mister Texas? Can I speak
to the Texans Insider? It happens all the time. They're
they're mentally disturbed. You know, maybe Caseo Cases says that.
So see miss Roger, who calls our show frequently, He's
gonna call me mister Texas and Texans inCider right now
(27:26):
when he calls the show.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
No, I hope he does.
Speaker 6 (27:28):
He's going to if he knows a good for him,
because I do control the calls during price or time.
Roger on seven and ten forty one, Roger, good morning
to you.
Speaker 12 (27:37):
What's going on there, mister Texas?
Speaker 3 (27:40):
Thomas Thank you very much.
Speaker 6 (27:41):
My friend, thank you for calling the show. You are
calling me the Texans Insiders. What do you got today?
Speaker 12 (27:46):
Well, I do think I do think the games would
be a lot closer than people think it's going to be.
You know, Josh Allen is cable being tackled in the
pocket or for a sack or for forfl and all
that good stuff. So you gotta you can't just just
credit the other side of the football, the other side
of the field with his defense. You know, we get
(28:09):
we get a defensive touchdown and we get a money
throwers and mails. Uh you know, magic, we can we
can win this game. It's not it's not like we
cannot win this game. We can win these games. It's
gonna be some special teams. It's gonna be everything. It's
gonna be it. It's gonna be all facets, right, it's
gonna be like a bill billy, oh BILLYO. You's always
talking about uh uh uh what do you call football?
(28:35):
Complimentary football?
Speaker 6 (28:38):
Those people the sports bars talking about, hey, g a
way for our team to play complimentary football? Absolutely, you
could you let me tell you something if you say,
if you say complementary football at the bars, tonight with
your buddies.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
You can suck it seriously.
Speaker 6 (28:53):
No, no, no, I said complimentary football Saturday when I
was watching Georgia Texas and there was not any I was, yeah,
I was uncomplimentary football was not complimentary football.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
No, this is this is.
Speaker 11 (29:09):
This is good day.
Speaker 8 (29:10):
Man.
Speaker 12 (29:10):
This goes with Duban. I uh. I took my wife
to the doctor yesterday because she had, like I explosed,
she had like a popped in her eyes. Have to
give some kind of special drops to you know, thin
it out. And we came to the house, you know,
and she took a nap, and then I'm marching the
(29:31):
rockets with the volume of you know, moderate levels and
the server and here we go, she tout, She screamed,
and blody never like whipped the heck. I went running
to the room and what's going on that? I'm like, Oh, okay,
settled down, Okay, who do we get? Like, I have
(29:52):
no idea who this guy is. Obviously they're shitting payrolls.
Yeah that's Larry col You're show somebo show. But you
did say you can't get too cataches. These per anmost
because like the lowers who got out the window with
sports teams, so you know, with to that effect, we
love DV but hopefully it's part of a bigger plant.
(30:13):
It better be part of a bigger plant. And as
far as the rocket go, what would you expect at
Rocket Arena but a rockets win?
Speaker 2 (30:21):
Exactly? Thank you very much.
Speaker 6 (30:23):
We don't do put sponsor plugs. So thank you very
much Roger for the phone call. I hope your wife's
eyes no longer an explosion state. My wife's I exploded
and then she got all upset and Dubond got traded.
Speaker 8 (30:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
I think I think the ladies do like Maricio Dumon
for whatever reason. Uh yeah, yeah, I would have say.
Speaker 6 (30:42):
I mean, I follow for a number of people on
Twitter that are females, and I feel like that they're
more emotionally destroyed over this than really this is bros.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
Hmm. Interesting.
Speaker 6 (30:53):
All right, I'm gonna put a poll question out, and
the pole question is what gives you ANNGST to right
now a Texans bills tonight or life without Doobie Dubon. Okay,
I put a poll out. Buffalo Bill's minus six at
the Houston Texans right now we're at eighty bills. I
believe baby Texans plus the points short week home dog,
(31:18):
let's go.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
But you're biased. No, I'm not. I'm calling them like
a season.
Speaker 3 (31:22):
No you're not.
Speaker 6 (31:23):
You're just totally biased. Okay, that's why they come to
me the insider note. Put a bag of chips on it.
Speaker 8 (31:30):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (31:30):
I entered like the low like low ledges from the Delhi,
But those are expensive. That's like two dollars for small.
I want to give you a full bag. You want
to get like a like a big bag. Let's do
a full bag of like a flaming hot cool ranch Dorito's. Yeah,
like four dollars and sixty nine cents. You're the best
chips on the planet are right now flaming hot sour
cream and cheddar ruffles.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
You're welcome, Just do it.
Speaker 6 (31:50):
Why why is trumen hot gotten so unpopular because popular? Yeah,
it's gotten popular because it's delicious. It's causing larger amonths
of heartburn too as well. Delicious, Matt, your stomach.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
Can handle it better than I. Congratulations on that.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
All right?
Speaker 2 (32:02):
So what gives you angst right now? Texans, bills, tonight
or life?
Speaker 8 (32:06):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (32:06):
I got to redo this this I shouldn't tweet during
the show. Quick time out ten forty five, Sports Talk
seven and he coming up at fifty minutes. Brian McTaggart,
All right.
Speaker 3 (32:20):
The angst is out.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
Was giving you more angst right now?
Speaker 6 (32:25):
Life without Dubon or Texans bills tonight sixty five percent
have a lot of angst about Texans bills.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
Watch party at Ross's apartment by the way. Okay, if
I know you to the food, you gonna get sicks. Yeah,
I got I got a bag of cheese sticks for Costco.
Speaker 3 (32:45):
It'd be great.
Speaker 6 (32:45):
M I'm inviting the clients over. Revenge is best served
warm and uh with flavor. Oh, so you're saying that
your Chief six will be more flavorified? Was crinkled in
with salt?
Speaker 2 (32:58):
I got that.
Speaker 6 (32:59):
I guess that'll win. It's all gonna take. We're all
gonna be okay, And then don't eat them. I'll get
you some carrot sticks with fat free ranch. Ough fat
free ranch. Fe it carrot sticks a fat free ranch.
You know you get the job done. Two things are gross.
You can't spoil yourself every second of every sugar free
syrup and fat free ranch. Oh, sugar free syrup's way worse.
(33:21):
I mean it tastes like plastic. All right, so the
pole questions up, what it's giving you more angst?
Speaker 8 (33:28):
Right now?
Speaker 2 (33:28):
Texans bills tonight or life without Dubai.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
So let us know.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
Okay, at supports empty my poll.
Speaker 6 (33:34):
By the way, Texans getting some love back to forty
two percent Texans plus the six Let's go, baby. How
confident do you feel? I feel sixty percent. I'm confident
to bet a bag of chips. Not confident enough to
make a steak dinner on it. Not confidentenough to run
down to the other side of Orange. Oh no, well
I will if I was there. If I were there,
(33:56):
I'd put a fifty spot on it. I wonder how
many people run to the border. Not like rock Correl.
I'm talking about running literally to the border of Texans.
That campaign wouldn't work as well these days. Yeah, that
would be fairly. That wouldn't be what you want to
go with. Uh, make your bet at the state line
because your phone would have it would have the GPS
or whatever it is, and then turn run back around
(34:17):
and come back.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
You can do that.
Speaker 6 (34:19):
Yeah, it's gonna cost you gas. You're already you're already
paying big ten percent. Then you're just gonna cost you gas.
You got a factor these things. But but if you
really love the Texans and you have Texans, or you
really love the bills thousand dollars, or if you're driving
a Prius saving you on the gas, and then you're good. Okay,
I'm gonna get a Prius and become a professional sportsman.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
Are you okay? What this cost? Worried?
Speaker 12 (34:44):
Like?
Speaker 2 (34:44):
I got I break it? Some Vitamin C. God, just
put a mask on.
Speaker 1 (34:49):
Here.
Speaker 6 (34:49):
I'm gonna get you vitamin C. You have vitamins on hand.
I have vitamin C and zinc. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
Absolutely, you overdose thing? No, no, no, you're fine. Yeah,
I'll take one of those. I never had live zinc
on the ear. Now what is this going to do
for me? It's good for your amino health?
Speaker 8 (35:05):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (35:05):
I love this.
Speaker 9 (35:06):
I was telling him when you're gone Ross to get
emergency while he travels.
Speaker 2 (35:08):
I have I keep it on me emergency. Yeah, so
you should ge him a try because he's never had
it before.
Speaker 6 (35:13):
These gummies are these are ones I can actually have?
My These are fine? These are not melatonin, These are
not THC. All right, very good. You mustn't calling you
the vitamin shop. Yeah, vitamin Villarriale Ross. I try to
stay healthy. I know, because I get my vacation time.
I don't need sick time. I want to be here
with you.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
Matt, thank you very much. All right.
Speaker 6 (35:31):
Uh we got me Teger coming up a couple of minutes. McTaggart.
I mentioned rockets being the Cavaliers last night. Uh, there
is an interesting story. I don't know how many you
are interested in the dynamic that is a Dallas Mavericks,
but I read it this morning when I first woke up.
I always thought Mark Cuban was the beloved guy in Dallas.
That organization hated him, hates him right now.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
The new pots.
Speaker 6 (35:53):
Tim McMahon wrote a story about the dumont So, the
new owners of the Mavericks, the Nico Harrison, and the
downfall of this once proud organization. Remember they were in
the finals less than two years ago and they are
headed for sixty losses this year. Did he write a
book on how great Nico Harrison's tenure would have promoted
if you had to return my text?
Speaker 2 (36:11):
But he didn't do so, and so he got shut out.
I used to come on when he was a smaller time.
Speaker 6 (36:19):
He did apologize to me but I'm like, I don't care.
I'm not I can promote your book that you got
no sales for and you wasted your time.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
He wrote a whole ass book on Luca and the
Mavericks and then he got traded. That's so bad.
Speaker 6 (36:34):
I actually have people that I know in my life.
I want some our friends that are not that have
written books, and I'm like, you're wasting your time. No
one's going to buy this. It got to be somewhat profitable. Well,
I mean for somebody. Well, no, what you do is
you publish. You publish it yourself. And yeah, but his
is a major I think it was Penguin or one
of the big ones. I don't know, but it didn't
work out very well for him and didn't publishing obviously
(36:57):
doesn't return text. But that's a different a different time.
But yeah, the story is about how Cuban got involved
in a lot of basketball stuff and they were asking,
the Dumonts were asking to stay out of business because wow,
he was caused a good if you're worthy, it's like
to hear about the I like the inner workings of
sports organizations.
Speaker 2 (37:17):
So it's a good read.
Speaker 6 (37:17):
And again, don't it doesn't necessarily mean, it's anthing about
Dallas Mavericks you particularly care about, but just the Mark
Cuban dynamic and Nico Harrison was recently fired in the
Dumont family, who now owns the Maverick. If you purchase
the Mavericks, though, and you allow Cuban to keep I
think it's like twenty.
Speaker 2 (37:33):
You gotta know that he is going to be meddling.
He's he's one of the.
Speaker 6 (37:37):
Biggest meddlers in sports owner history correct, probably second behind
Jerry Jones. I mean when sub promoters, she's in the
top five of all time. Yes, you had to know that.
You had to know that going in. I'm sorry, I
don't feel sorry for them, but they're a mess. They
lost last night to uh they play last time they.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
They lost Orland or it was. It was a good
team I can't remember.
Speaker 6 (38:02):
But yeah, because we ran through the scoreboard on the
Rockets rap program all four stock seven night, we got one.
Speaker 2 (38:09):
Host needs to be better. That's okay. Well, I think
it goes without saying Nicks.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (38:15):
They were up on the Knicks early, I think, and
then they lost.
Speaker 6 (38:17):
And part of it was that the part of the
conversation was that Mark Cuban's like, we don't need Jalen Brunson. Yeah,
and now he's one of the best players in the
NBA playing for a team that's thousand miles of the East.
Speaker 3 (38:28):
Whoops.
Speaker 6 (38:31):
Apparently they wanted Christian Wood and Jason Kind's like, I
don't want Christian Wood and Jason Kids like you need
Christian Wood. I mean, the rumors are out there Anthony
Davis maybe traded, and that they're gonna blow the team up,
and that maybe Kyrie every once he gets cleared to
go maybe.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
Traded as well. That was Cooper flag doing. I missed
last night illness, Oh okay, like I got got out
of here.
Speaker 7 (38:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (38:57):
I was gonna say, he's gets all excited.
Speaker 6 (38:59):
He's gonna be with Think Davis and Kyrie Irving, like
we're talking about that team actually being decent in the West. Yeah,
they're a disaster. They're flipping. They're gonna have to just
take gear to blow it up. Yeah, all right. Brian
mctaggard on Dubond's departure and not the direct move, but
what's ahead because of that, we'll discuss that coming back.
We got coming up at eleven thirty. I just don't
(39:19):
get it News at noon Emai Adoka at one o'clock
one thirty, we spend time with Willie Fritz. It's the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross seven one three, two, one, two, five,
seven and eight.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
He's the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
Speaker 6 (39:38):
The man that broke the story on Mauricio Dubon to
the Atlanta Braves, joins his next It's our friend. Do
we hear them every Thursday during the baseball season? And
we are certainly going to see a lot of him
because the Cougars are going to make a great Bowl
appearance and a long, long run towards a national championship.
Brian McTaggart MLB dot Com on the show tags how
are things?
Speaker 3 (40:00):
Things are?
Speaker 8 (40:00):
Well?
Speaker 3 (40:01):
What's going on there?
Speaker 2 (40:02):
Another thing?
Speaker 6 (40:02):
We got people flipping out over Riso Dubon. Let me
ask you this ramon Arrius was non tendered. So all
right now, the infield congestion was less congested. Are you
surprised one to ten that this happened? Give me a
scale for the audience.
Speaker 13 (40:19):
Probably probably two or three. I mean, if you would
have told me at the end of the season, I
thought they would have kept one of those guys. But
as you talked to more people as the off season
goes on and you realize they got to free up
some money to do some other things. And then it
became it became likely that you know, paying Maurico Dubon
six and a half seven million dollars when if this
(40:42):
team is healthy, he probably doesn't play much at all.
Speaker 3 (40:45):
Just doesn't make a lot of sense.
Speaker 13 (40:47):
And so that's and you know, infields an area of strength,
they have a lot of depth there when they're healthy,
So it makes sense. It's not like they're gonna put
all this money from I think it's about eight point
five they're saving by by Urius and Dubon being gone.
It's not like they're going to stick that in their pocket.
They're gonna try to reallocate it and get some pitching,
which is their their biggest need. So the long way
(41:10):
to go in this offseason. I know Debonum was a
popular player, man, you know, I loved ing to death
and was texting him last night and laughing and uh uh, man.
You know, we've seen this stuff before us a business,
and at the end of the day, it all comes
down the money.
Speaker 6 (41:23):
So do you think this was part of the plan,
was to get rid of two utility guys. Does that
mean now Christian Walker is safe or is everything still
on the table when it comes to shaking up this
infield for twenty twenty six.
Speaker 13 (41:37):
I think if they traded Christian Walker, they're gonna have
to trade they got like trade Perettis probably and until
and I don't think they're going to do that. I
think Dana Brown's come out and said he's not gonna
do that. So I don't think Christian Walker is going anywhere.
I mean they got rid of to you to you
tell your players. They did add Nick Allen so he
can play up the middle. Perettis, you know, can play
(41:57):
first and third.
Speaker 8 (41:58):
Uh.
Speaker 13 (41:58):
You know, Korea can play short and third base. So
they're covered in a lot of different ways without Dubon
because that you know, Alan can't come in late in
the game. And you know Phil a need as well,
you know, not a great offensive player, but he's younger
and you know, maybe he's got a little bit of
an upside and he's got three years of control left
when Dubon would have been gone after this year.
Speaker 6 (42:19):
What does this mean, if anything, for Bryce Matthews. Do
you think they're planning on him? Having a role in
the infield.
Speaker 13 (42:26):
Yeah, I think it opens up maybe a little spot
to where if he has a good spring, he can
force his way in there. You know, we've seen him
play some short and second you know, can he you know,
maybe he beats out Nick Allen for a spot in
the middle of the infield, you know, I know, you know,
he's the first raft pick that Dana Brown had come
into the Astros, and he's a guy Dana Brown really likes.
And you know, he had flashes last year where he
(42:48):
looked really good and he had a really good minor
league season, so he's played a little bit of outfield
as well. So I think Matthews very much, if he
has a strong sprint, can put himself on the map
to get to get in here and get some bats
in this infield. But uh, you know, right now it's
a pretty crowded infield. They got rid of two players,
got one back, and they still probably have too many
players on the infield. So you know, they still have
(43:11):
thirteen guys that are arbitration eligible that on Friday they
have to tender contracts too, So there's gonna be a
few more guys who are gonna get non tendered, or
maybe they trade somebody before Friday so they can get
something back and return. So we'll just get we're just
getting started in this offseason. There's gonna be a lot
of stuff going on. Yeah, that was leading me to
my next question. Brian McTaggart MLB dot Com with us
here on Sports Talk seven ninety. I mean, where where
(43:33):
do you think the next domino is? There has been
mentioned of Jake Myers. We just hinted at you did
with Matt about Esak Paratus or Christian Walker. I mean,
where do you think the next move is comes from. Yeah,
it would not shock me if they trade Jake Myers
before Friday. I think they feel it's probably time maybe
(43:56):
to see, you know, see what Zach Cole has. Yes,
he strikes out a lot, but you know, Jared me Pen,
You're struck out a lot too when he came up.
Let's find out what Jake Melton has, you know, you know,
looks like this is gonna be a big year for
Cam Smith and right field. You know, it's hey, Sue
Sanchez still gonna be here. They're gonna dfa him and
you know a few other role players who might be
on the bubble, you know, guys like Tremmel and so forth.
(44:16):
But yeah, they're still trying to shape this and I
think once they get all the position players sorted out,
we get past this arbitration deadline to get a better
idea their payroll.
Speaker 3 (44:26):
Uh, they're going to go start to acquire some pitching.
Speaker 13 (44:28):
But I Chess would be surprised at this point if
they traded Parretes because I think he's going to be
right in the middle of that lineup, and I think
Walker would just be really tough to trade at this
point as.
Speaker 6 (44:38):
Well, because of the fandom. It's a tough move for
a lot of fans today because Mariso did a variety
of things. But if there's an end game to it,
making it a sexier offseason, I get the sense. And again,
I'm gonna trust you more than myself, but it feels
like to me there's gonna be some shuffling for sure,
but we're gonna be still.
Speaker 2 (44:57):
Looking for that wow moment.
Speaker 6 (44:59):
I don't know for gonna get it this offic Do
you feel like there is something in Dana's repertoire that says,
let's go get somebody that people don't anticipate.
Speaker 2 (45:07):
The Astros having on their radar.
Speaker 3 (45:10):
I don't think so.
Speaker 13 (45:11):
I don't think there's gonna be a wow moment. I
think there's gonna be a lot of moving pieces, and
I think they're gonna acquire a lot of players who
people are gonna go like, okay, whatever, and then the
astros will have to see how they fit. I just
don't see them going after the Dylan ceases and guys
of the top market, of the starting pitchers, because I
just don't think they're gonna.
Speaker 3 (45:31):
Spend that money.
Speaker 13 (45:31):
I mean, they haven't done that, uh, you know, in
this ownership, and I don't think things are gonna change.
And and that you know, they are a little bit
budget conscience. They're not cheap. They're trying to keep it
close to the the CBT without going over. So there's
gonna be some challenges there. But I do think a
lot of a couple of arms, not high level arms,
but arms.
Speaker 7 (45:49):
Uh.
Speaker 13 (45:49):
But I don't think we're you know, they're not gonna
They're not gonna go out and sign a frontline free
agent outfielder or bring in, you know, a top starting pitcher.
That's just not gonna happen, and that's not what they need.
If this team can stay healthy and they can add
a couple of depth pieces to the to the middle
of the rotation. This is a team that I think
still is a playoff team and a team that could
(46:11):
win the American League West next year.
Speaker 6 (46:12):
Some more minutes here with Brian mctagger at MLB dot
com tags. Do you think there's going to be some
really heartfelt conversations between the Astros and Hunter Brown and
then separately Jeremy PAYNYA, Yeah.
Speaker 8 (46:26):
I think so.
Speaker 13 (46:27):
I mean they're kind of to the point here, especially
especially with Penya, to where they have to maybe get
an extension this year.
Speaker 3 (46:35):
A year from that will be interesting.
Speaker 13 (46:37):
I mean, if we don't have a workstoppage, will they
be sort of in the in the Kyle Tucker position
to where like, Okay, we're going to trade Payya to
get something for him, and you know that, you know,
and that's that. Probably it was a trade that made
sense for the Astros at this I mean, the Cubs
give up three players and didn't get very far with
Kyle Tucker, so, uh, you know, Hunter Brown, probably a
(46:58):
conversation there had as well. I think, especially with Hunter Brown,
he's a guy I think you can build your rotation
around for the next five or six years.
Speaker 3 (47:07):
But they're gonna have to go out of the box
and have one of.
Speaker 13 (47:10):
Their biggest pitching contracts that they've ever had, and uh,
you know, I don't know if they're prepared to do
that or not.
Speaker 6 (47:17):
And just one more about the well, go back to
the catching situation with do you think there's much of
a change or what do you think happens there? Of course,
with Victor Karattini now as a free agent and Yaner
Diaz and how they feel about him being an everyday catcher.
Speaker 13 (47:33):
Yeah, Yaner is going to be their started going forward.
I mean they hired they haven't announced it yet, but
I reported this morning they haven't a new catching coach
that they've hired. Kim Cousin's coming in. Was that the
Orioles work with Adelie Rushman. I mean, he's going to
be a key guy in trying to get Jiner better
behind the plate. I thought at the end of the
season it was probably a really good chance Keratini's gonna
(47:55):
come back, But now I get the sense that that's
not going to be the case, you know, So they're
going to be in the market as they are for
a backup catcher at this point. You know, maybe at
some point next year Walter Yannick, who's one of their
top prospects, a first round pick out at Sam Houston,
maybe he gets a shot if he comes up. But
going into this year, Yainer is going to be their
their starting catcher, and you know, he's got to make
(48:17):
stride with his approach at the plate, He's got to
get better behind the plate, and that those are going
to be a couple of the real tasks between now
and opening day that they're going to be working closely
with him, especially in spring training to get kind of
get those things done. But unless there's some kind of
surprising trade, I think Yanners behind the plate on an
opening day next year.
Speaker 6 (48:35):
So what would be to wrap up our conversation, what
would absolutely wow you in terms of, oh my goodness,
I didn't think the Astro has had this in their
bag of tricks.
Speaker 3 (48:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (48:45):
I think if they find a way to get a
one or two starting pitcher from somebody, whether that's a trade,
and I think they will make a couple of trades.
I just don't know if they have the trade capital
to do something like that. If they you know, if
they get somebody like Ranger Sworez or or you know,
our King or somebody like that, I'd be like wow.
But again, the starting pitching market, these guys at the
(49:07):
top end are gonna want so much money. They're just
not in position to do that. I think if they're
going to get an impact starter, it's going to be
more of more in a trade at this point. But
I still see that matting in a couple of arms,
maybe a couple of bullpen arms, because you know, look
at what they did last year. How many pitchers did
they have. I don't even know, but they probably went
(49:28):
through ten, twelve, thirteen starting pitchers and it still wasn't enough.
They still could have used more arms. So you talked
to Dana Brown. Every time you talk to him, he's like,
we need pitching, pitching, pitching. Jim Crane says the same thing,
and that's their number one goal here in the off
season is to add pitching. And that's what this du
Bond move was made, was to get some money so
they can go get some arms.
Speaker 6 (49:48):
I'm just curious to the reason why I asked it
is because you know, the Astros had Dylan Sees on
their radar. Didn't pull off a deal with the deadline
last year, and then whether that was Jim Crane infuse
about I like this guy because you know, once he
got that's a guy that he likes, he eventually gets him.
Speaker 8 (50:02):
I E.
Speaker 2 (50:03):
Josh Haters.
Speaker 6 (50:03):
I'm just curious where that would be if that was
that conversation was started up because they don't liked him,
or there is somebody above him that said, you know what,
this Dylan SE'SK guy could be a perfect one two
compliment to Hunter Brown.
Speaker 8 (50:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (50:16):
I mean I think getting Dylan Sees for you know,
half a season and you know, giving up with you know,
a prospect, a couple of prospects, is you know, different
than you know, signing him to a five year deal
worth one hundred and eighty million or whatever it's going
to take. I Mean it's those you know, kind of
two different things. So, yeah, they would love to have
Dylan see see, he would be a great fit here.
But again, I mean I just think the money he's
(50:39):
gonna want is just gonna be way put them way
over where they want to be payroll wise. And also
the commitment to you know, a thirty thirty one year
old starting pitchers a lot of the top flight starting
pitchers on the market right now or thirty thirty one
years old, they're gonna want five or six year deals.
Probably not the smartest business move to do that. So
(50:59):
I could see them adding some pitching and then hey
if they get if they get to late July and
they're in contention, then maybe you go get a starter
who's going to be a free agent, that is a
top line starter and you're get him for two months,
like they've tried to do with Dylan Cease, and like
they've done, you know, with with Verlander years ago, and
even going back to Randy Johnson years before that, and.
Speaker 6 (51:19):
Very last should the Astros team shop put the Justin
Verlander jerseys out for sale.
Speaker 13 (51:23):
Right now, that wouldn't be a bad reunion. I think
I'm generally not for getting bands back together. I mean,
they brought back you know, it brought back Marlin. It
didn't go well, you know, Hector Norris came back a
third time and was like eh, But Justin verlind and
quietly had a really good second half last year. It
(51:43):
wouldn't be the worst thing, I think to have him
back in that clubhouse, in that locker room, it's got
to be at the right price.
Speaker 3 (51:48):
He's very close to Jim Crane, so that would be
big news.
Speaker 13 (51:52):
It wouldn't completely shock me, however, So if yeah, if
you got that Verlander jersey, it was hanging next to
that Korea jersey. Uh, you know, maybe there's a chance
you can get the Korea the Burmander jersey back now
as well.
Speaker 6 (52:05):
All right, the Man that broke again, the story the
Big One. Mauricio Dubon now in Atlanta Brave. Brian McTaggart
tags Happy Thanksgiving. You're going to Are you going to
Vegas see the Cougar's Play?
Speaker 3 (52:13):
I am going to Vegas to see the Cougar's Play.
Speaker 13 (52:15):
Yeah, looking forward, I'm going to spend all week in
Vegas and slide back Thanksgiving morning. So yeah, I went
last year too and saw us lose two games, so
I'm hoping for some better results.
Speaker 2 (52:25):
Hey, the kids and wife going on? What's going on
with that? Is it a bros trip or what?
Speaker 13 (52:30):
Another couple and beating up some other Kook fans and uh,
We're going to go see The Wizard of Oz at
the Spear So I'll report back about that and uh, yeah,
should be a good.
Speaker 6 (52:39):
Time must have gotten that lost invite in the text.
I guess it didn't find my way to my phone
for some reason.
Speaker 2 (52:44):
Maybe that's I don't know what happened there.
Speaker 13 (52:45):
I get a lot of texts. I have to go
back there and see. I'm sure it's probably out there
somewhere than goodbye. Thank you very much, Brian McTaggart MLB
dot com Vegas. Let me taste I heard the Wizard
of Oz in this year. Get some hallucinogens and get
going there, Matt. Oh, we got my gummies right here
to go.
Speaker 8 (53:00):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (53:01):
Sphear is awesome, Spear, look at you. You're welcome.
Speaker 6 (53:05):
I'm gonna cry. I'm here today, and I said, Spear, right,
this is so beautiful. Now, I'm sure the best I know.
Uh yeah, I would, I would get I believe that
the Astros should do a should do a white belt
jersey special white belt giveaway. Yeah I would like that. Yeah,
sponsored by our first ten thousand fans. Get a white
belt with a Weekend Talk seven logo on it. Okay, well, yeah,
(53:28):
we'll have to get somebody else to fut the bill. Okay,
get you that's fair enough. Oh well, you know your
money's doing okay today eleven fifteen and the Matt Tamas
showed ross.
Speaker 2 (53:37):
I just don't get it, coming up at bottom the aar.
Why don't you get I'll come up with something.
Speaker 6 (53:42):
Yeah, fifteen minutes two five Civinatti, I might have seven
cups of coffee, plans show.
Speaker 2 (53:57):
I was feeling really good until three minutes ago. So
I need you, Houston, Texas, lift me up.
Speaker 7 (54:03):
Let's go.
Speaker 6 (54:04):
I lifted you up during a Rockets game last night.
Get in where you fit in, Come in and say hello,
I'm gonna have one of these gummies right now. They're
they're Vitamin Sea gummies. There's a come on, No, I
don't like it. I know they're sugar free. I know
it's good for you.
Speaker 2 (54:21):
It's good. I want you to do that.
Speaker 6 (54:22):
That's fine, but I need to be fired up like
Mike fires. I'm fired up for Astros baseball. Just the
sugar freeze are gross. I know they're not good to
get the job done. Well, yea, I bought them. I'm
wasn't gonna throw them away. Once I tried them and
I didn't like them. I'm almost at the end. Okay, good,
you're like you're like my pill popper, you're my pill distributor.
Speaker 8 (54:44):
All right?
Speaker 3 (54:46):
Sure?
Speaker 8 (54:46):
Why not?
Speaker 2 (54:47):
All right?
Speaker 6 (54:48):
Okay, let's run through a variety of scenarios in tonight's game.
You ready, Yes, you're talking about the Houston text. Yeah,
Texans Bills. Uh, Josh Allen once again has a disapponent
performance in Houston. I will gar oh, personally, Gary, he
doesn't get six touchdowns in this game? God, I would
hope not. No, the defense is going to make this
a close game. I I look, I got the Bills
(55:08):
win in my touchdown, But doesn't mean that twenty one
fourteen can me a fight? Can be a close game.
Speaker 2 (55:14):
Let's gonna see. This is the thing though, The Texans
are never entertaining.
Speaker 6 (55:19):
Well, you know what, I guess. I guess the Jaguars
comeback was a little entertaining. Yeah, but the first half
of that was like you wanted to call your eyes out.
That's why there was nothing entertaining about the Tennessee game.
I was like, we were barely gonna discuss it.
Speaker 2 (55:29):
There was nothing redeeming you.
Speaker 3 (55:31):
It was bad.
Speaker 2 (55:31):
There's so many ugly games. By the way.
Speaker 6 (55:34):
On the poll at sports RV, forty seven percent support
of the Texans baby, we're coming back.
Speaker 2 (55:40):
We believe, I believe that we will cover for making
some moves.
Speaker 6 (55:50):
By the way, by the way, let's find out what
people have angst over right now. Okay, at Sports MT
it's Texans Bills tonight or life without Dubon boy. Fifty
four percent on the Texans bills, forty six percent are
having a life without due bottom ankst right and at
this moment, okay, Sarah, number one, Josh Allen throws two picks.
Texans won a close game, uh, twenty four to twenty one.
(56:11):
You envision that he has to turn the ball over.
And this is also been a problem for the Texans.
Is there they have to do something with the turnovers.
You're supposed to take advantage of the turnovers. You're supposed
to score points off of the turnovers. Houston Texans, when
they get all these short fields and they're a kicking
field goals or be not getting any points at all,
(56:32):
it's very frustrating.
Speaker 2 (56:35):
How much of that is play calling?
Speaker 6 (56:36):
How much of that is I think it's more to me, look,
offensive play calling could certainly use an upgrade, but the
push inside the ten yard line is non existent.
Speaker 2 (56:46):
The play calling, to me, has been better.
Speaker 6 (56:48):
There's been a few more gambles, like they had that
fourth and one where they had uh Woody Marx. They
they did the pitch toss to the left side, like
in these short situations, they're figuring stuff out. They actually
scored a sh short yardage touchdown as well. Like it's
getting incrementally better, and they've been doing a more play action.
Dalton Schultz leak out. We're getting that like five times
(57:10):
a game, and that's been working. His targets have been up.
They have been using that tried and true pass pattern
all year long. Yeah, it's on film, and yet nobody
stops it. I would say the Texans and nothing. I'm
sure there's a metric for it. I don't want you
looking it up because we're trying to.
Speaker 2 (57:26):
I can find it.
Speaker 6 (57:27):
Inside the twenties. I bet the Texans are one of
the most effective teams in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (57:32):
They've been good.
Speaker 6 (57:33):
Average yards per play inside the twenties red zone has
been horrible and that needs to certainly get better.
Speaker 2 (57:39):
And then also, yeah, the play action has been good
and they they are.
Speaker 6 (57:47):
You don't have to subscribe to the myth that you
have to be a good running team in order for
play action to work. That's the Texans are greatest example
that who really fears Nick Chubb or what he marks
zero body? But the teams bite on the play action
all the time, defensends build themselves to stop the run.
That's if you needed to establish the run for play
action to work, then they would never call play action
(58:08):
on the first play of the game. But that happens
all the time, and it's effective and it works. So yes,
I'm seeing a little bit more. I think the offense
has gotten a little bit better, and I think it
will It'll get even better when CJ. Stroud's able to
come back in the next game.
Speaker 2 (58:23):
What a stretch.
Speaker 6 (58:24):
Texans colts, Texans bills tonight, then Texans colts, then Texans cheaps.
Speaker 2 (58:31):
I mean, God almighty, win one now.
Speaker 8 (58:34):
Here it is.
Speaker 6 (58:35):
It's down, and I will I will amend my gut feeling,
and I will say I was wrong, and I will
you will if they can go at least.
Speaker 2 (58:41):
Two and one there.
Speaker 6 (58:41):
I think they're gonna be going to make the playoffs
because you got Las Vegas in your back pocket where
you're saying they have to or what was the original
gut feeling they weren't making the playoffs at all. Okay,
I thought there were too many things going against the Texans.
I'm a shocked as you are. They won three of
the last four. I didn't see that coming. Yeah, but again,
there's not a spectacular winning the group.
Speaker 2 (59:00):
Don't won the Broncos game. Should have lost the Jaguars game.
Speaker 6 (59:04):
Should Yeah, Jacksonville in any assemblance of any sort of
decent play call.
Speaker 2 (59:08):
And Trevor Lawrence.
Speaker 6 (59:09):
By the way, even though they beat up on the
Chargers on Sunday, I was now red zone and I was.
Is not a great indicator because you're not watching everything.
They had a great running game that day. Was at
m was when went off. They both went off. How
many times have you seen Basal Touton go off, Matt,
I mean we talk about it all the time. Say
his name again, Baseeal Tutin. Do you think he was
(59:30):
made fun of as a kid? Probably Baseil your darn Tutin, Hm,
bashful and Tutin. That's a terrible name. And if he's
got some weird weird names, hey, we're sleepy and doc
point being you think you got a bad here in town,
you got Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars. There are a
(59:52):
game better than the Texans are they are? But nobody's serious. Again,
I would say probably if you wouldn't suck people and said, hey,
who do you think would have a longer postse postseason run,
the answeruld probably be seeing none of the above. But
if you had to choose one, I think people would
think the Texans would have a better chance of winning
a playoff game than Jacksonville because you've got all this
money and all this time and all this patience in
for a guy in Trevor Lawrence. Who would be I
(01:00:15):
think mid is giving him too much credit. I think
he's below average, and I would say for a one
dash one a bust. He got a second contract. He's
not a Josh Rosen is a bust. He won one
dash one though he was wasn't he was he top?
Speaker 12 (01:00:31):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:00:32):
Maybe he was like middle of the pack, middle of
the first round.
Speaker 6 (01:00:34):
I think when you're one dash one, you're supposed to
be borderline Hall of fame. You are the number one
player out of everybody possible in the draft.
Speaker 2 (01:00:42):
Yeah, but I mean cam Ward was number one. Number one.
Speaker 6 (01:00:44):
Well, I'll guess what that's I think he's headed right
for a bus too, And that's the nice thing about
being the ANFC South Ross is the bright one dash one.
Bryce Young's won one. I mean, did I would Trevor
Lawren's been and Bruce Young, I'd say yes.
Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
Not by much. Bryce is making ketch up a lot
of grind because I got a I got a panther
in my house.
Speaker 6 (01:01:03):
I can't understand Joe Burrow one dash one. Joe Burrow's
been fantastic. He just gets hurt all the Kyler Murray
one dash one bust.
Speaker 2 (01:01:14):
Say it with me? Uh, Kyler we Uh.
Speaker 6 (01:01:17):
Trevor's Lawrence is at least mid. Yeah, I guess bust
relative to the one dash one. That's what I'm doing.
I'm not trying to say overall. Buss Saker Mayfield is
an interesting one because bus for the Browns. He's not
a bust, but he was a bus for the Browns.
Everybody's a bust. And then he went to the Panthers
and the Watson was on a bus with the Texans.
He's been a bus for the Browns. Jared goff Rams
(01:01:39):
went to a Super Bowl. Jameis Winston, he had some success,
but relatively speaking, Jameis Winston one dash one bust one
dash ones are playing in the NFL every single game
for twelve to fifteen years, putting up four thousand yards.
Speaker 2 (01:02:03):
One day.
Speaker 6 (01:02:03):
Hey, Rossie, if he's one dash twenty two, okay, if
he's two dash six, he's still a starter.
Speaker 2 (01:02:09):
Five years in there, six and four oh eleven touchdowns,
eight picks.
Speaker 6 (01:02:13):
Ooh, bust o? What's the what's the word for like
a soft bust? Well, it depends on what magazine you're
looking at.
Speaker 12 (01:02:24):
What.
Speaker 6 (01:02:30):
I'm sorry, No, I set you up. I mean that
was like a double. Sorry, that's a good double. Sorry,
I'm sorry. I'm sleep deprived.
Speaker 7 (01:02:39):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (01:02:44):
I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Speaker 9 (01:02:46):
I'm making it hard for what cliss I want tomorrow?
Play them all, play them all better?
Speaker 6 (01:02:50):
Fake If you play them all, I don't get here
to like the ten twenty althought i'd be rested tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:02:54):
I'm good.
Speaker 6 (01:02:55):
I'm seriously, I will be sleeping at three o'clock eighteen.
I love you, but I'm not gonna let more. People
are tweeting me that you've blocked great, who's that? Now?
Speaker 2 (01:03:01):
Why I have to? I don't know? Why do I
have to deal with this?
Speaker 12 (01:03:03):
Matt?
Speaker 6 (01:03:03):
You don't have to just move along, all right, whatever, bye,
Just tell me who there and I'll see if it's
worthy of being unblocked. There's probably a good reason why
I blocked them.
Speaker 2 (01:03:12):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:03:13):
Seven one three two one two five seven eighty. You know,
if you don't get it, let me know. I got
it to just don't get it. And it just happened
at the office a few minutes ago. Seven one three
two one two five seven one eight. There's something in
your life you just don't get. Let Jonathan h Ross
or myself help you with that. Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:03:37):
That's one Ross.
Speaker 8 (01:03:39):
What do you think?
Speaker 2 (01:03:41):
What breaking news? One more? I guess too. Sure, let's
go one more. It's not really breaking.
Speaker 6 (01:03:51):
You know why because somebody told you months ago this
wasn't gonna happen, So thank you for that. In Rappaport,
following up What I Told You months Ago, says that
Joe Mixon is not expected to play this season as
he deals with a foot injury from the offseason. Mix
unlikely remains in the Physically unable to perform list through
the season. Meanwhile, Houston moves forward with Nick Chubb and
(01:04:13):
Woody Marks.
Speaker 2 (01:04:16):
Hmmm.
Speaker 6 (01:04:19):
The Texans have been preparing for this, having signed veteran
Nick Chubb in June, and he's averaging more than four
yards per carry, plus they drafted Woody Marks in the
fourth round, trading up to do so.
Speaker 2 (01:04:28):
Do you really think that the Texans prepared for this?
Speaker 6 (01:04:33):
That seems like Ian Rappitbort's trying to suck up the
teat of Nick Cassio. And trust me, there are people
that are so people trying to kiss Caserio's on me.
That yeah, I mean he gets stuff from Nick Cassario
and he does a little damage control. He does this,
Adam Schefter does this. Oh yeah, it's not it's not
(01:04:54):
Rappaport doing this by himself. He's he's in a club.
Do you se do they really think that that was
the answer? Four yards per carry? Is that something really
to write home about? He doesn't even really carry.
Speaker 2 (01:05:08):
The ball that much. They don't even run the ball
that much to begin with, No, you got mail, not me.
I'm busy beg here.
Speaker 6 (01:05:17):
That that is that is that's that's a little boot
licking right there. But that's fine cause you got to
four point two yards per ten for Nick Chubb. Great job,
so wayman, you're telling me think about this, and this
is not even not even the football geniuses out there.
You prepare for a guy that got you over a
(01:05:39):
thousand yards last year by going with a guy that's
had multiple injuries multiple seasons, yes, and a fourth round pick.
Speaker 2 (01:05:45):
That's how you prepare for future without Joe Mixon. That's
how you do it.
Speaker 6 (01:05:50):
I guess that I should be the general manager of
the Texans because I could do just as good as
Nick Casseiro did. Right there, I'm trying to see where
Nick Chubb is. Oh, he's twenty eighth in football in
total rushing yards yards per carry. Uh, he's four point two.
He's around Blake Korum and Isaiah Pacheco. Okay, so just
(01:06:15):
get Rappaport gets it. It's right, it's accurate. Somebody told
you months ago, and this show tended to. But the
reality is they You do not prepare for no Joe
Mixon by bringing in Nick Chubb and drafting what he
marks that that's ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (01:06:37):
I mean, it's not a great plan. B or plant C.
Speaker 6 (01:06:43):
I wish they would have traded for somebody. But a
Chan didn't get moved, Breese Hall didn't get moved. Nobody
got moved. They wanted a third round pick, and I
think Breese Hall would have been a rental. So I
understand not making that move. Tell me you wouldn't like
a brees Halt and I against that Buffalo run defense though,
tell me how you like it.
Speaker 2 (01:07:00):
But would you did you.
Speaker 6 (01:07:01):
Want to do it at the expense of a third
round pick? First team and you were saying at the
time was not making the playoffs. So the team's not
making the playoffs and they're done, then why would you
trade a third round Because I'm.
Speaker 2 (01:07:11):
Saying not making the playoffs? I mean, they can't be
thinking of everything. They're not making it either.
Speaker 6 (01:07:14):
I think, oh maybe because they're always listening to the show.
I don't think so Big Fan Sports Radio is he?
I don't know sure?
Speaker 3 (01:07:22):
Why not?
Speaker 6 (01:07:23):
Ladies deemen? This is the next twenty minutes of your show.
You're gonna look back. You're gonna look back at this
and go, thank God I got Matt and Ross and
Jonathan for this. M I just don't get things, do
you sure?
Speaker 3 (01:07:33):
Why not?
Speaker 2 (01:07:34):
Cue the song?
Speaker 14 (01:07:41):
Do you have something in your life that you just
don't get? No need to worry, no need to We
will just does the topics. Just see if we comprehend
the things that make.
Speaker 11 (01:07:52):
And use our friends.
Speaker 14 (01:07:53):
It's time to say I just don't get it.
Speaker 6 (01:08:00):
All right, Here we go eleven forty Sports Talk seven
NUTI I went to go get a cup of coffee
during the break. There was a sign on our microwave
and it very simply said, please cover your food or
don't use this.
Speaker 7 (01:08:16):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (01:08:17):
I love that people are cracking You're cracking down. I'm
so I like this topic. Already.
Speaker 6 (01:08:22):
We got an office email about somebody leaving trash everywhere too.
Speaker 2 (01:08:25):
We believe it's skyt Mike. He's the favorite in the house.
You picks need to clam up after yourself.
Speaker 8 (01:08:31):
Well.
Speaker 6 (01:08:31):
Also, the the drain uh the the uh uh what
do you call it? The drain the sink draines got
stuck here? You got people were They pulled straws and
other stuff out of there.
Speaker 2 (01:08:42):
What are we doing, folks? Let's go Oh, I'm so
glad you about this?
Speaker 6 (01:08:45):
All right, So here we go those three different things
of office etiquette. Every person in this building that works
here is an adult. Yes, it either rents or lives
in a home. Yes, that has worked before. We don't
have a bunch of newbies. When't like college freshmaning in
their first jobs. We are growing adults. Why do people
(01:09:09):
think that just because you don't own the microwave or
you don't live in the place in which you work,
you don't need to maintain it like you live in
a place. I don't get why people would think, Hey,
I'm gonna take my big old plate of spaghetti and
put it in the microwave for ninety seconds to two minutes.
Anybody that knows knows you put spaghetti in the microwave
(01:09:30):
for two minutes and the sauce is splattering everywhere. Same
thing goes for soup, thinks and goes for a hot drink,
frankly for anything. Listen, iHeart co workers, and I love
you well, I.
Speaker 2 (01:09:40):
Love some of you. I don't love all of you,
but I love some of you. Put the damn cover
on things, and let's not have this.
Speaker 6 (01:09:46):
Issue where we're embarrassed to have a sign put up
in our office it says cover your food or don't
use the microwave. Now, I don't reheat food here often, Ross,
you only do the oatmeal. If any of the three
of us would be caught doing such a thing. It'd
be the man that's producing this radio show. Yeah, Jonathan
does bring more food home to reheat than any of
(01:10:10):
the three of us combined.
Speaker 2 (01:10:11):
So are you the guilty party?
Speaker 12 (01:10:12):
No?
Speaker 8 (01:10:12):
What? Look?
Speaker 9 (01:10:15):
Oh, because I could get I could get hot about
this because every time I'm trying to put my food up,
I'm always always get my paper towel, always cover my
stuff up.
Speaker 2 (01:10:22):
Yeah, you're a good young man.
Speaker 9 (01:10:24):
Yeah, and you know that's how I was brought up
in general, Like my mom would kill me if I
didn't do that.
Speaker 2 (01:10:28):
So why wasn't everybody else brought up that way? In
our office?
Speaker 7 (01:10:30):
I don't know.
Speaker 9 (01:10:31):
And it's disgusting because you smell the other people's foods
residue when you're trying to put your own food, and
it's just a nasty it's.
Speaker 2 (01:10:37):
Gross, dude.
Speaker 6 (01:10:38):
So I don't get why adults can't go to their
office and treat their equipment there like their place of
business because don't want to be made fun of at
the office. I mean I made fun of here all
the time, variety of things. Me not covering my food
is the other thing I said.
Speaker 8 (01:10:50):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:10:50):
I just don't get it. It's a very I just
don't get it. Thank you very much, Jonathan. What do
you got this week?
Speaker 9 (01:11:00):
I guess I'm kind of still stuck on from last
week about the President going on Pat What's this Matter
McAfee's show.
Speaker 2 (01:11:09):
Yes, I don't get his.
Speaker 9 (01:11:11):
Response to his audience and kind of just going off
and cussing them out almost and saying bleep you all
that stuff. As a media professional, I don't. I don't
think that's cool.
Speaker 2 (01:11:25):
I don't. I just don't understand.
Speaker 9 (01:11:27):
What's the pointed that, honestly, you get more negative attention
than if you didn't say anything at all, but trying
to say, like, oh, people don't know football, this is
and this and this, and trying to bash your audience
that supports you and make it being condesstanting saying people
that don't know football or trying to tell me this,
this is this, like bleep you. I really don't understand
(01:11:48):
that at all. It's very childish. It was very You
get paid millions of dollars to be on a very
high end network, and I think that was very very long.
Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
You're saying, don't insult your audience, Yeah, but not unto
that point.
Speaker 9 (01:12:02):
With just's you can he showed his character, that's how
you are behind screen.
Speaker 6 (01:12:06):
Well, because he's not a typical talk show host. He's
an athlete that got a microphone that the network in
which employs him said, do some crazy things, do things
that are out of the ordinary. Don't be confined to
being what a sports talk host should be. You don't
have to answer to anybody except us, and there'll be
enough bros out there that will love everything that you do.
Speaker 2 (01:12:28):
That's like, yeah, good for you, McAfee. Good for you
for ripping on your audience.
Speaker 6 (01:12:32):
The only people I rip on my audience, Well, I
was doing it the other day and I've just had
to stop. Ross t'ming to stop ripping on the Cougar
message board. People leave them alone song. I'm not gonna
do that anymore. I'm learnning for my mistakes. Maybe Pat
McAfee should do the same. I would not insult my
audience now. I get mad in my audience sometimes with
horrific astro takes, yes and firing hitting coach conversation, endlesslie.
Speaker 2 (01:12:59):
Maybe, just maybe the new coaches can fix this new
brave guy we got.
Speaker 6 (01:13:02):
Yeah, maybe they can. I mean, it's ops is four
seventy to they hire a second hitting coach or is
still just won. There's two two guys. You know that
happened when I was gone? Yeah, who's the other guy?
Speaker 10 (01:13:11):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:13:11):
George? George? George is not available. He says, you gotta
have faith. Guys, God, what an off?
Speaker 8 (01:13:20):
You know what?
Speaker 2 (01:13:21):
Save it for tomorrow? Eleven thirty? What so you gonna
say sorry for that?
Speaker 3 (01:13:26):
All right?
Speaker 2 (01:13:28):
Is it my turn? Yes? Breaking? No, let's go, you know, well,
let's let's take a break. Okay if you want to follow.
Speaker 6 (01:13:34):
Look, I believe that what you don't understand in your life,
but you just don't get it's gonna better than whatever
Ross is.
Speaker 2 (01:13:40):
You're like, you're like the U. You could probably beat me.
You could. You're like the Brad. We'll take anybody's I
just don't get it over.
Speaker 6 (01:13:46):
Brad's Ross seven one three two one two five seven
seven one three two one two five seven one email
don't at one o'clock today Willie Fritz at one thirty.
It's a Mount Thomas show with Ross. If you don't
get something in life, call us right now and tell
us what it is. We'll try to help you. Ross.
I ask you one simple question, what don't you get?
(01:14:09):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five Seveney, I thought you're
trying to get the callers in front of me. I
can go, uh, yeah, go, and then we'll go to
housing the sports news. Yeah of the day hmm. And
I see a big story about Jalen Hurts, reports about
Eagles players being frustrated with his play, apparently getting called out.
(01:14:34):
Then he has to respond to that, says he's unfazed.
He's their quarterback. So I'm like, wow, Jalen Hurts must
be really having a hard goal of it this year.
Did you know the Eagles are eight and two and
he has sixteen touchdowns and one interception and six rushing touchdowns.
(01:14:55):
Now I understand yards and points wise. The Eagles offense
maybe hasn't been where they want it to be. But
Lane Johnson has missed time and now he's out for
the year with a leaf fronc injury. They've had some
injuries on the offensive line. Saquon Barkley is looking washed.
I don't get why the reigning Super Bowl champion quarterback
with a sixteen to one touchdown interception ratio is getting
(01:15:18):
treated like he's the worst quarterback in football. What's going
on over there in Philly? Is it Philly doing or
the whole national football they do it?
Speaker 2 (01:15:26):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:15:27):
Like, yeah, he's been missing, he's having problems with the
aj Brown, blah blah blah. The yards haven't been where
they wanted. But I mean, are you serious? Players are
frustrated with hurts approach. According to the Athletic, when it
comes to his hesitancy to throw the ball in a
tight windows against zone coverage, well.
Speaker 2 (01:15:49):
It seems to be working out to some extent.
Speaker 6 (01:15:53):
Sixteen tds, one pick, seven yards in a tenth and
they're eight and two and they're the reigning Super Bowl champs.
I don't get why Jalen Hurts is in all his
eight Uh, this to me comes across as it's not
the Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen. It's not Lamar Jackson
in Baltimore. It's not sexy, it's not fun. It's not
thirty five points a game. It's not, for that matter,
(01:16:13):
even the Los Angeles Rams. They're just winning big Philly style.
If you will, you play to win the game. No,
they're rating super Bowl champs in eight and two ridiculous.
It's it's but it's Philadelphia. It's I mean, it's the
cesspool of North America.
Speaker 2 (01:16:30):
Okay, so that's so you do get it. It's Philly. Yeah, yeah,
this comes a zero surprise to me. All right. Seven
one three two one two five seven.
Speaker 6 (01:16:40):
Ninti seven one three two one two five Sevenati Will's
calling us some passing get down? Do you know?
Speaker 10 (01:16:45):
Will?
Speaker 2 (01:16:45):
What don't you get?
Speaker 8 (01:16:46):
My man?
Speaker 15 (01:16:48):
All right, guys, So for a long time, I've heard
multiple people, including very reputable sports fundans, say the best
atmosphere in all of college sports is Tiger Stadium on
Saturday night. I am not I am not an A
and M fan. In fact, I'm a Houston fan, but
my dad is a big A and M fan, so
I bought them tickets to go see the A and
(01:17:10):
M LSU game a few weeks ago. Okay, first off,
that stadium looks like it's in the middle of it
like a third world country, and it is not not
the very pretty campus. But that's okay, that's okay, We're
just going for the atmosphere. I am really not an
A and M fan, but at no point was that
stadium ever half as loud as I've heard Kyle State
(01:17:32):
or Kyle Field. And on top of that, the only
thing that stood up from the reputation I've heard from
Tiger Stadium is the belligerent LSU drunk fan. Really, and
then and one final thing, the architecture of that stadium
makes no sense. You don't know where you're going half
the time trying to find your seats. So LSU is
the greatest atmosphere in all of college sports.
Speaker 2 (01:17:53):
I don't get it. I just don't get it.
Speaker 6 (01:17:55):
Okay, So now I have not gone to either one
of those stadiums in quite some time, but I have
been to both stadiums I've been to.
Speaker 2 (01:18:02):
I went to Tiger Stadium two years ago or it's
maybe three now.
Speaker 6 (01:18:07):
If all things are equal, if the competition on the
field is equal, and there's as much at stake in
two different games, I'm going to Kyle Field over Tiger Stadium.
Because now, because your agument is the outside, is the
uh is the gumbo? Good, is the French brig good?
(01:18:30):
Is the conversation good? Yes, But I'm talking about inside
the stadium. Inside the stadium, Kyle Field is louder than
Tiger Stadium. Now, if you're put the whole thing together,
about the game day atmosphere and whatnot. Maybe a slight
lean towards the Tiger because that's probably alcohol infused and
your chance you're gonna meet up with someone that's got
less than eleven teeth.
Speaker 2 (01:18:49):
I want to spend the night with you. That's a
decent chance of that as well. I guess it was
four years ago.
Speaker 6 (01:18:54):
I went at this point because it's at O'seron's last
game and they were playing the Aggies. Okay, and there
were there's no atmosphere none. Now you can't really they
were also six and six.
Speaker 2 (01:19:05):
You can't give it.
Speaker 6 (01:19:05):
You say, you say nothing about nice about the Aggies.
I didn't think I could even kill They got a
nice stadium, that's very loud. I haven't been in it ever. No,
you've really never been to Calfield one. No, wow, I'm surprising. Okay,
really you been. I've been at College Station.
Speaker 2 (01:19:22):
Just Trucking General and job been over there. I will
put both A and I'm sure take a lot of
as whoopings there. I will tell you this.
Speaker 6 (01:19:29):
I put both A and M and Tiger Stadium in
the top five. Am a lot of college teams have
ever been to? Sure, that's cool, but if you said
for the pure kickoff to the final gun a m
by a smidge over Tiger Stadium. I don't have contact
for that. And the only time I went to Tiger
Stadium was a bad game, and I was very disappointed. Okay,
(01:19:52):
I will give you it's frankly to me, it's much
easier to tell you who is more disappointing than it was. Like,
I was majorly disappointed at Michigan Stadium. May usually disappointed
at Notre Dame Stadium. Those are my two biggest What
is this? It's just people sitting on their hands, old
people sitting around. Maybe everyone's just over hyped.
Speaker 2 (01:20:11):
I don't think so.
Speaker 6 (01:20:13):
I mean when Michigan played Rice, I mean, you can't
get fired up for Rice? What can you not get
fired up for?
Speaker 2 (01:20:18):
Is that what you were there for? Yeah, you're like
this this environment sucks. Oh come on, that is a count?
Are you sure?
Speaker 8 (01:20:23):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (01:20:24):
Okay, So maybe not every game is like Ohio States.
It was that game fifty five to zero by half.
Speaker 6 (01:20:29):
I will tell you the most underrated place I've ever
seen a game, Okay, and it's not there anymore. Robertson Stadium,
the Orange Bowl. I went and saw Florida play Miami
in the Orange Bowl. We dined on falaise and lobster
tail in the tailgate lot. Stood the entire time at
the Orange Bowl for Florida Miami. I think Florida had
(01:20:51):
a huge lead in the game that Miami came back.
I was blown away by how awesome that experience was.
Because Miami, those who don't know, small private school, doesn't
have a huge fan base except for the city of
Miami that does embrace the Hurricanes when they're really good.
But they're not good, they find something else to look at.
I think it's environment dependent. I mean a game environment dependent.
(01:21:13):
It has to be a big game, it has to
be closed. Because I've been a DKR where it sounds
like nothing's going on, and I've been in there like
the Alabama game a few years ago, where it was
one of the loudest environments. I can remember how I felt. Look,
my DKR experience has been Houston and Rice. Yeah, so
beatowns true. Unfortunately, Now I did go when Ricky Williams
set the single season record, okay again saying them on
(01:21:36):
the day after Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (01:21:37):
That was pretty awesome. It was also an environment that
was a ten o'clock or eleven o'clock start. I think
something like that.
Speaker 6 (01:21:42):
It was awesome twenty and I'm expecting a great environment
on Friday night, thirty six thirty, a week from today,
for a week from tomorrow, I will be part of
that environment. I will be losing my voice. You will
be saying, go horns. I will look them o Coome horns,
Lome horns. And it's goodbye to A and M. Maggie,
(01:22:07):
I MNSA speak to you real quick here in the
five seconds we have left. Uh, you need to be
Texas because I'm telling you Texas fan is going to
lose their blank on you if you can't. If that squad,
this year's Longhorned team beats a team that is undefeated,
I don't care if the game is in Austin, it
doesn't matter, for they're still in the playoffs no matter what. Right,
But I mean for brag Sanford this week for s
(01:22:29):
talking and by the way, A and M what you
cannot be playing Sanford. I'm sorry you Go play you know,
go play a directional Louisiana school. Do what LSU does.
Playing Sanford is embarrassing. That could be a seventy two
to nothing game Sanford, I think is one in ten
at a one and an FCS level. Is there even
(01:22:51):
a line on that game? I can go look news
at noon is next twelve o'clock seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:22:58):
Is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross Now.
Speaker 8 (01:23:12):
The time of my life?
Speaker 7 (01:23:15):
Name like this people, Yes, I swear hitsu.
Speaker 11 (01:23:23):
And oh little.
Speaker 8 (01:23:37):
Here's Dubon.
Speaker 2 (01:23:38):
He doubled it last time up first pitch breaking ball?
Speaker 7 (01:23:42):
Is that back to back?
Speaker 2 (01:23:44):
Sez the jor Duba back in Sacramento with authority.
Speaker 16 (01:23:53):
Horatio Dubon hit a home run here when he was
in high school in this ballpark, but it feels even
better are hitting a home run here as a big leader.
Speaker 2 (01:24:03):
Let's back to back for the Astros. It's five nothing down.
They keep pouring it all, so we take it up
the stand. You're received, You're understand.
Speaker 16 (01:24:23):
Van matches it each left. We're going back on the
warning track at the wall, he leaves it.
Speaker 2 (01:24:28):
It's gone.
Speaker 16 (01:24:31):
Horatio Duban's second home bron of the day is a
two run shot and the Astros league lazily.
Speaker 2 (01:24:37):
They're up sixty bo Dubon's fifth.
Speaker 16 (01:24:40):
Of the year, and that's lying down the left field line,
hooking and it's a fair ball just side the chalk
(01:25:00):
and it bounds down into the corner. Tartini scores, Dubon
trades places with them at second and RBI double for
the pit shitter Mauricio Dubon seven to two Astros.
Speaker 2 (01:25:12):
So just let it, gods.
Speaker 6 (01:25:16):
First pitch hit pretty well right field, slicing over the
head and over the fence.
Speaker 2 (01:25:22):
It bounced on top of the fence and gets out
of here. Dubon goes the other way. It's a two
run homer. The Astros finally score.
Speaker 16 (01:25:31):
It comes with two outs in the fourth inning, thirty
one innings without a run, the first runs for the
Astros since Saturday.
Speaker 2 (01:25:42):
A site for sore eyes, and.
Speaker 16 (01:25:44):
It comes on an opposite field toll run for Dubon.
Speaker 2 (01:25:55):
We're gonna mention your be.
Speaker 6 (01:25:58):
I think Astro team broadcast especially do me, do Me,
do Me, And you gotta traded for a guy like
literally never heard of before. Sounds like a regular dude too,
wasn't Nick Allen?
Speaker 2 (01:26:19):
Nick Allen? Yeah, it's a guy.
Speaker 10 (01:26:20):
You know what.
Speaker 6 (01:26:21):
Nick Allen is the starter at my golf course. Yeah,
Nick Allen? Good, Yeah, I had a classroom in high school.
Did you realize a nice guy. He's a starter at
the kingwo Of Country Club. Now really yeah, oh cool?
So if you want to get if you want to
go to a good tea time, I'll call Nick Allen. Yeah,
tell him, I said, Hi, I will do that. Tell him,
I said, snooches baches.
Speaker 2 (01:26:37):
He'll know what I mean. Snooches booches. He'll know what
I mean.
Speaker 6 (01:26:45):
Okay, Like last time I was calling the rock Yeah,
I was calling the Rockets uh Cavaliers game, and I
think for the second and second of year, I was
talking about Dean Wade, and Dean Wade is not saying
an NBA player. He sounds like you're a friendly insurance agent.
This is Dwayne's cousin. No, oh god, no, this one
(01:27:06):
is slow white with a beard. They could be cousins,
no chance. Couldn't shoot threes either, well, neither coul d Waite.
See oh come on, but d Way was going the
mid range. You don't think d Wade is your friendly
insurance agent. Could be for your auto, home and casualty.
Speaker 3 (01:27:23):
M I like that, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:27:27):
This is Matt Thomas Joel Ross. It's twelve nine. We
gotta got right to the news. It knew we gotta play. Yeah,
you got Texans a get two Astros rockets.
Speaker 6 (01:27:35):
Man, ask me a chuck full of information in the
old news at New Yes, Matthew, let's go and start
with the top Houston sports news of the day.
Speaker 2 (01:27:43):
You just heard Mauricio dubon highlights.
Speaker 6 (01:27:46):
He was traded away last night by the Houston Astros
for Nick Allen. If you're asking why the heck did
this happen, well, looks like it was a swap to money.
Nick Allen projected to make about one point five million
dollars in arbitration this winter. Mariso de Bond projected to
(01:28:06):
make five point eight million dollars, So about four million
dollars in savings for the Astros. Does that mean that
they're just penny pitching and they're done?
Speaker 2 (01:28:15):
Probably not.
Speaker 6 (01:28:17):
This will probably be the first domino of many for
the Astros this offseason. Dan Brown gonna be busy, matt
If I set the over under at one and a
half more trades for the Astros this offseason, you say, what,
well Over, I got news trades only, not moves.
Speaker 2 (01:28:32):
Trade trade Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:28:33):
Wow, well Over, In fact, I got news for y'all,
And I'm speaking to a man to my right. Who
is the president Jake Marris fan club? I move he's
getting traded tomorrow. Wait a minute, are you gonna be
more sad about Jake Myers and you're gonna be about Doobie.
Speaker 2 (01:28:54):
I didn't make a.
Speaker 6 (01:28:55):
Fan club for Mari's to do bond and a slap singles.
Jake's out there hitting moms may ging five star catches
in slab hitting singles too well.
Speaker 2 (01:29:06):
And his arm's not great stealing bases.
Speaker 6 (01:29:08):
So what, you don't need a good arm when you
catch everything, baby, when you get your zone rating.
Speaker 2 (01:29:14):
Up, because now too Bay can't cover anything and left,
tell me I'm wrong. His arm's mid.
Speaker 6 (01:29:21):
No, I'm talking about his future. His future is probably
getting treated. Is ever gonna see what Zach Cole has
Jake Melton? I mean, they've got options in the outfield,
options in the outfield instead of angels for the astros?
Speaker 2 (01:29:35):
Moving along?
Speaker 6 (01:29:36):
Okay, fine, tonight, you're Houston Texans on Prime video. You
got back to back Houston sports on Prime video. It
is on channel twenty six and whatever I'm watching it
on Prime video, I would watch it on twenty six.
Why because if you have streaming issues, you won't throw
about it. If you're on twenty six, I'm telling you
the picture is gonna be better you think on Prime video? Okay,
(01:29:57):
And they had the Prime Vision cast which just check
it out, give me a favor. Did you, by the way,
see that when Kirk Kurbstreet got to the hotel yesterday
here in town, what is dog? He had a doll
fleet of dogs with him. They had what his buddy
Peter was with him, okay, the next man up from
the other dog and the h and they had a
bunch of treats for the dog.
Speaker 2 (01:30:16):
Oh great, Well, you know what he's.
Speaker 6 (01:30:17):
Getting sponsorships off that. If he's just like looking for
likes and sympathy, that's fine. But if he's making some cash,
is that wrong with me? I feel like it's better
if he's making cash off it like good for him. No, Actually,
he'd be the worst. It would be the worst part
because they are. If he's using his dog for profit,
then that makes it look filthy. You know what straight
cash homeing cash makes this business. When did Kirk Herbstree
worrying about it check?
Speaker 2 (01:30:37):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:30:38):
I don't guess he's not worried about a check, but
I don't know why. This makes you feel a little
bit better about him exploiting his dog, if at least
the opposite, if you if you're bringing the dog just
because you want to have a companion that seems honest
and genuine and sweet. If you're trying to get like
rets dot Com to spend money on because Peter's got toys,
because it feels a little forced in too much. If
(01:31:00):
he's making money putting it out there, then that makes
sense to keep doing it, but he's just doing it
for attention, like that feels worse.
Speaker 2 (01:31:08):
Well, I'll show you.
Speaker 6 (01:31:09):
We got more headlines to get too for like some
digital hugs, all right, anyways, digital hugs? Yeah, prime Vision.
Check out the Prime Vision. You have Prime Video, right,
I do check out the Prime Vision for Just give
me one drive a Prime Vision and you can check
it out and tell me what you think. They highlight
guys in red that they think there are blitzing. There's
some dude on there that comes out there and gives
(01:31:30):
you some analytics here and there. Even though it's al
Michaels and Kirkurbstreet the majority of the time, he pipes
in every now and then, like on on punt Decisions,
and stuff. I think it's great. I think it's fun.
I think it's a fun way to watch football. All right,
here's the ruling. Now what Two tweets from Kirk Curve Street.
One was about him his travel this weekend, and it
says traveling over a fifty four hundred mile Here we go,
(01:31:50):
Peter and I are heading out on our second longest
trip of the season for week thirteen. I'm gonna go
mute him. Presented by there you go. There's the name
of the dog company.
Speaker 12 (01:32:00):
Uh huh.
Speaker 6 (01:32:01):
He's going from Houston's going from Nashville to Houston. Then
he's going from Houston to it looks like Oregon to
do the game day, and then he's flying to Gainesville
to do the football game that night. Yeah, it's brought
to you by a company that does dog food, right,
(01:32:21):
good friend. No, No, he created this content and he
made money off of it. That's what I'm trying to do.
Follow Sports RV on Instagram. You can see my latest
post about the Mariso Dumont trade. I added captions Is
it too busy?
Speaker 2 (01:32:34):
Tell me what you think?
Speaker 6 (01:32:36):
No, I look, I'm all for sponsorship because sponsor makes
the world go around. So I'm not gonna get sports
RV on Instagram. And then his second twoot was made
it to our first stop here in Houston. Thank you
names he names the hotel where he's at for all
of Peter's toys.
Speaker 2 (01:32:49):
And his TP toilet paper. No TP, they made a
little dog TP for him, like a dog TP. Yeah
that thing.
Speaker 12 (01:32:56):
No.
Speaker 6 (01:32:57):
No, you don't assume that people go on the TPE smoke,
do you. I don't know what you weirdos do when
you go camping, but I didn't do that. Matt and
I wouldn't back on the road with my boy long
we could travel this week. Glad he's getting some rest.
Hashtag Peter just he's hashtag's a damn dog. Yeah, he
(01:33:17):
created some content. He's getting sponsorship off there. I'm all right,
you know what, I can't step doing that. Don't hate play.
I hate the game.
Speaker 2 (01:33:24):
Yeah, I can't hate the game. I guess you can
tweet some more at sports Hervy. You're trying to grow
the show, Maddie today the show tweet you have a dog.
You're posted it. Yeah, but I didn't try to make
a sponsorship off of it. That's just that's just me.
When that's Scooby.
Speaker 6 (01:33:36):
Scooby, Yeah, you know that's a that's the dog that
goes and does a halftime ax around the NBA.
Speaker 2 (01:33:41):
He was last night. Oh wait it is with you
and a dog. Yeah you all right? Hip hop you're
posting your dog looking for the legs. That's not my dog.
That's putting you in a dog.
Speaker 6 (01:33:52):
Yeah, but I didn't put on their hashtag rollo. That
was pretty good. Come on, give me something on that.
You know, you know, university going to be nice, row,
you know, folks, look at this picture. I'm gonna be nice.
Speaker 2 (01:34:12):
It's taking a.
Speaker 6 (01:34:12):
Picture of the two of us. It's me and Scooby
the celebrity dog. Okay, let's take a break. Uh, you
forgot the Rockets last night. Don't forget them. It's last night.
They won, but they forget We just run it and
play was sixteen high. It's fine, probably over modulated, No,
it was. We did a good life. I think we
did good last night.
Speaker 2 (01:34:30):
Oh yeah, we'll see tomorrow.
Speaker 7 (01:34:32):
I Uh.
Speaker 6 (01:34:35):
Rockets get a big win over the Cavaliers, one fourteen
to one oh four. Furious Calves rally fought off by
Shingoon with twelve fourth quarter points and fourteen from Aaron Hollanday,
Aaron freaking.
Speaker 2 (01:34:46):
Holiday saved the day for the rocket.
Speaker 10 (01:34:48):
You did?
Speaker 3 (01:34:49):
All right?
Speaker 2 (01:34:49):
You made okay?
Speaker 6 (01:34:50):
Joining us in forty five minutes Willie Fritz at one thirty.
It's a Matt Thomas Show with Ross seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seven ninety.
Speaker 13 (01:35:08):
All right.
Speaker 6 (01:35:08):
Emai Doug is gonna join us at one o'clock today
at one. If you missed our conversation with Brian McTaggart,
sham on you for that. We'll play some of that
coming up at one twenty. Willie Fritz at won thirty.
Cougar's taking on the hated TCU horn frogs uh Saturday
at TDCUS Dadium, three'clock start time, and we'll have it
for you on nine to fifty KPRC at two o'clock.
(01:35:28):
And then the Cougars wrap up the season at Batter
probably David Randa's last game at Better. I don't know,
we'll see how that goes. I kind of forgot TCU
football existed, So did t TCU fans. What's their record?
They back for a national championship? What was four or
five years ago? They had some cache they were looking
like things are going great and then what you happened
(01:35:49):
over there?
Speaker 2 (01:35:50):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:35:50):
I the reality is ross uh money change everything, which
you would think that TCU would not have an issue with.
They got money over there and forth they got money.
Oh really both those schools do SMU and TCU both
have big, big, big, big money.
Speaker 2 (01:36:10):
Well, then they should be getting in the games.
Speaker 6 (01:36:11):
What's up?
Speaker 2 (01:36:12):
Let's go.
Speaker 6 (01:36:12):
They don't have Cody Campbell text tech money though if
you do. By the way, you know again my oldest
is a text tech. He has zero gives zero f's
about the fact that the text tech is buying their wins.
Speaker 2 (01:36:25):
I love that, you know why.
Speaker 6 (01:36:26):
I love that because he's he's made fun of me
for being a Manchester City fan talking about it being
an oil Is that Royal oil money club?
Speaker 2 (01:36:33):
That is so fun of money? Helpacrid? That's okay?
Speaker 6 (01:36:38):
Well, once again showed you that even though the schools
that you would think have been routinely elite, Clemson being
one example this year, Oklahoma State another example. What else
is Wisconsin down? I mean, these are teams that have
been year and a year out, always playing for you know,
high Bowl games and or playoffs. In or national championship
that if the nil money isn't there or drives up.
Speaker 2 (01:37:03):
You suffer. Yep. And that's just the way of the world. Yep.
Speaker 6 (01:37:08):
We see how these markets are fluctuating and going up
and down, but right now a lot of cash flow,
consistent cash flow and then therefore high demands from the
boosters of these coaches to be successful immediately. And by
the way, we're talking about the Big twelve. B Yu's
got money too. B YU will figure out a way
to pay off the players now that make them they
won't have sex?
Speaker 2 (01:37:27):
How's that real to play? How's that?
Speaker 8 (01:37:29):
What?
Speaker 2 (01:37:30):
Yeah, they can't have sex? Knows that there'll be.
Speaker 6 (01:37:35):
No relations for a college to go to BYU if
you're a young college because your religious background has it
that way. I mean, it would be hard if you
were not a member of the Olds faith to play
by those rules, right Like if you were the b
y Jew Jew who then goes to Tulane and is
probably having quite an interesting time in New Orleans having
(01:37:56):
very little issues.
Speaker 2 (01:37:57):
With trying to find everybody. Is there a big or
flip he could have made.
Speaker 6 (01:38:02):
Going from Brigham Young to going to New Orleans in
Tulane of debauch, like the the least debauchery to the most. Well,
I mean he could have chosen any any SEC school,
I mean he I mean that's one extreme to the
other though, right, if we're going FBS, that's gotta be
about opposite ends of the spectrum. Well, problem is Tulane
(01:38:25):
is in his own little world in New Orleans. It's
you know, it doesn't have the debauchery. It's it's a
very small, private, highly regarded institution. I mean, I would
have loved for any of my kids to go to Tulane.
I don't know what the party scene is there, the
yeah TWU Lane kids party. I would assume they do.
I know for a fact. By the way, TCU was
(01:38:46):
six and four this year. They're three and four in
the league. But they're going to Bowl. So what's the
line looking like?
Speaker 2 (01:38:51):
I don't even know.
Speaker 6 (01:38:52):
Just so I can get an idea of how to
expect this game to play out, Okay, Yeah, my guess
is back to your point, Tou Lane parties. Oh Houston
one and a half, y'all better fill up that stadium.
Come on now, top twenty five close game, intra state rival.
Let's go three o'clock TDCU Stadium seven three. Beautiful weather,
although I think it may begrading great.
Speaker 2 (01:39:14):
It was supposed to be earlier in the week, but
I think it changed. Yeah, it's fine. I put in
a ring coat, okay, yeah, put you know what. I
watched games all the time in rain. They had a
nasty rainstorm in Iowa a few weeks ago for their game.
Speaker 8 (01:39:24):
It was on.
Speaker 6 (01:39:24):
They had fifty thousand people there, so they're not we're
eating too about to go nine and two. It'll be
better go ten and two and playing it. Really, I
think a bowl game that doesn't rely, you know, rely
on Houston to wake up and a lot of things unfortments,
you know, like there's the Male Bowl and the Ketchup
Bowl and the Mustard Bowl and all that kind of thing. Okay,
(01:39:48):
the Italian Dressing Bowl, I believe there is. I believe
there's the Biscuits and Gravy Bowl. Oh that's your favorite. Ah,
you know you're not, mister Texas. Let me let me
here we go making the man making amendments. I like gravy, okay,
I like sausage gravy. I just don't like the texture
(01:40:08):
of putting the sauses gravy on top of the biscuit.
Speaker 2 (01:40:10):
It's chewy and mushy and grol. You got to eat it.
When you put the gravy on there, you don't let
you don't let it sit there for hours?
Speaker 6 (01:40:18):
Can I mush down? Well, I need a ruling from you.
Can I put a very thin layer of gravy.
Speaker 2 (01:40:23):
And you only get it at the Maliday min Express
Press and you think that's good? Can I get it
somewhere else? I don't want anywhere. Can I go to
Rocker Rarel and get it?
Speaker 12 (01:40:31):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (01:40:31):
And then be fine? Yes?
Speaker 6 (01:40:32):
Can I ask for a small amount? Can I ask
for the gravy on the side I can dip the
biscuit into the gravy? Yes, Okay, we got a chance. Then, gosh,
I forgot about all these things when I was in vacation.
Let's try to clear my mind. Wow, you know what
you didn't forget? It was who gave you the information
a long time ago that Joe Mixon was not going
to be a textan I'm back in the thicket of
bad takes. M I'll thank God you've got me, because
(01:40:55):
there are a lot of people like they could be like,
you know, we gont cuss cuz which did Joe Megson
come back? I can play for Dixon's No, he wasn't
gonna do that.
Speaker 7 (01:41:03):
I had that.
Speaker 12 (01:41:05):
That.
Speaker 6 (01:41:05):
I don't know. I just feel like I'm talking country
five when I'm talking about Joe Mixon and Texans running games.
Joe mix Joe Mixon is a word to say country
Joe mix Joe Mixon.
Speaker 2 (01:41:13):
I like that, and we we love Caio. Nick care
is a perfect general manager for this team. He's smart,
he's edgy, he's funny.
Speaker 6 (01:41:21):
Well, and to his credit, he can do everything except
build an offensive line. Yeah, but how hard is it
to build a team when you have the number one
and three pick? Everybody would would you have not taken
Will Anderson and are gone against c J. Stroud? Honestly,
I wasn't that in on c J. Stroud when the
pick was made. Well, they I liked it, but I
would love it. They phoned their lap on that, and
(01:41:42):
by the way, so they wanted to be trade up
for Bryce Young.
Speaker 10 (01:41:45):
You know what?
Speaker 6 (01:41:45):
We had the horrific takes earlier week about whether or
not Davis Mills is better than c J.
Speaker 2 (01:41:49):
Stroud. Oh God, that was preposterous. Yes, I got one
for you here. How much has Bryce Young caught up
to c J Stroud in the last eight weeks?
Speaker 6 (01:42:01):
Bryce Young has been better, but it's not like he's
been lighting the world on fire, right, unless I mean
I missed some time on vacation, so you can tell
me they're on the way out here throwing four hundred
yards four teddies every game. I believe you threw for
a record number of yards this past week. Personal record, yes,
or Panthers record. I think personal record. Okay, I'm just
(01:42:24):
saying that we were so quick to get rid of
Bryce Young and saying he's hot garbage because he's five eleven.
Speaker 2 (01:42:30):
Four and forty eight yards, three touchdowns. Okay, my bad.
Speaker 6 (01:42:34):
I wasn't familiar with your game, Bryce. A lot of
Bryce's overall season numbers, uh fourteen touchdowns, seven picks. Okay,
you want it to be a little bit of a
ratio than little qbr is forty five point eight. That's
twenty third among quarterbacks. So maybe he's just having a
little runnings once ass of light. Ooh at yards per
(01:42:54):
attempt to six point two, that's not great compared to
CJ's numbers. All right, where's the home jeez?
Speaker 11 (01:42:59):
All right?
Speaker 2 (01:42:59):
Miss or on demand I don't have to do it.
Your numbers.
Speaker 6 (01:43:03):
You are my numbers, bitch. I'm the one that gives
the insights. You give the numbers. Oh please, you give
bad insights. I give great insights with supported by numbers.
I don't just read the numbers, no context. You're two
number heavy, okay, twelve thirty. Sorry, I'm trying to be
smarter than the average fan.
Speaker 2 (01:43:19):
Oh. People need to come here because they want to
learn too.
Speaker 8 (01:43:23):
They do.
Speaker 6 (01:43:23):
If you want, if you want, if you want dumb
ass takes, you can go down the dial. There are
some bad ones out there. Seven one three two one
two five sevenati seven one three two one two eleven touchdowns,
five interceptions, total QBR sixty five point four, which.
Speaker 2 (01:43:38):
Is ninth among quarterbacks.
Speaker 6 (01:43:40):
Yeah, I still think cj Ar has a better quarterback,
but I would say seven yards in attempt, so more
yards per attempt, better touchdown interception ratio, better quarterback rating,
better QBR, and longer time on the concussion list. Concussions happen.
It's the NFL people.
Speaker 2 (01:43:55):
I don't arguing and bring it.
Speaker 6 (01:43:57):
Out, none arguing, just that I'd be a little more.
I'd be a little concerned if he gets another one.
I gotta put sixty million dollars in his pocket.
Speaker 2 (01:44:04):
In the next three years.
Speaker 6 (01:44:05):
Okay, Well, tow a tongue of olol got paid and
he's got a millioncussions.
Speaker 2 (01:44:08):
He's played all eleven games in here.
Speaker 6 (01:44:09):
And how those Miami Dolphins looking. Now, Hey, they beat
the Bills. So you're saying there's a chance maybe seven
one three, two, one two five seven out of seven
one three two point two five seven and join us
here on the Matt Thomas old Ross seven one three
two one two five seven nine zero. Shout out to
(01:44:32):
the Rice University Athletics department. They are doing whatever they
can to get the student body at Royce Stadium this
Saturday for a game against the North Texas Eagles. North
Texas a team that very well could find themselves maybe
being the last team in the playoff. There's a pretty
good competition for that group of six spot in the
upcoming tournament playoffs. Right now, I believe Tulane would hold
(01:44:56):
that spot. Tulane would be playing Texas t and Vegas
says well, at least one site says if Texas Tech
was the five playing the twelve seeded Tulane Green Wave
and Tulane would fly to Lobbick to play that game,
that Tulane would be a nineteen and a half point underdog.
So you're talking about the twelfth seed in this group,
(01:45:19):
this masterful, beautiful NCAA tournament being a better than three
touchdown dog. I've said this from the beginning. The auto
bids ridiculous. Just put the top twelve teams in. I
think probably that being nineteen and a half point dog
would back up your case all right. To my point, though, well,
they what's the long going to be? Once their coach
is at lsu h Man, I'm hoping Lane Kiffin stays
(01:45:43):
because I've been on that Lane Kiffin says at Ole
Miss for quite a while. I day by day, I
think increasingly you are going to be correct on that.
And not that I have any inside information on that.
I just think that if you're all Miss, you got
to You finally have a coach that's put you on
the row of map for more than one year in
a row.
Speaker 2 (01:46:00):
You got to keep him.
Speaker 8 (01:46:00):
You do.
Speaker 6 (01:46:01):
But if it depends on how much Lin Kiffen wants
to win a national championship, you see you're saying it's
impossible for him to win and say that.
Speaker 2 (01:46:08):
Okay, what he Then what are you saying?
Speaker 8 (01:46:10):
Then?
Speaker 6 (01:46:11):
I'm saying over the over the span of several years,
it would be easier at LSU or Florida. Oh for sure,
RECRUITI I mean, yeah, okay, I get you all right?
So then Rice we get the Rice nor a textas game.
If you're a student, Apparently at Rice, apparently you do
not get free tickets.
Speaker 2 (01:46:27):
What they charge you for that? I am presuming they
charge you.
Speaker 6 (01:46:34):
But if you go to sit in the nest with
your Rice, I d for the Rice versus North Texas
game this Saturday at six thirty, first five hundred students
get a free T shirt.
Speaker 8 (01:46:48):
You can do.
Speaker 6 (01:46:50):
You get free but ice cream from Ben and Jerry's.
That's nice, Okay, Scoop's New York Chocolate fudge chunk or whatever.
Speaker 2 (01:46:59):
Okay.
Speaker 6 (01:47:00):
Number three, you get a fifteen dollars food truck voucher
for curbside eats and True Dog.
Speaker 2 (01:47:06):
Okay, that sounds making a little more appealing, right they
have a food truck. There's so few people out their
games they have food trucks.
Speaker 6 (01:47:14):
Correct, But here's the kicker twenty one plus with valid
ID free beer. All you can drink are one beer.
Speaker 2 (01:47:26):
It doesn't say.
Speaker 6 (01:47:30):
Now that's the way to I mean, but are these
Rice nerds really getting hit in the hooch? What's the
Greek life at Rice? There is no Greek life? Oh really, really,
I don't think there is. I don't know very little.
I think it's I think the student life. Here's my
guess is that you know they have these separate colleges
(01:47:51):
and you hang out with your college a lot. There
isn't a lot of intermingling between groups. Yeah, like the
athletes at Rice really stay the athletes because they're they're
in a smaller group of people that care about sports.
Speaker 2 (01:48:05):
They probably get made fun of.
Speaker 6 (01:48:07):
Well, I'm sure that athletes make fun of the non
athletes and nerds and jocks. It's always a nerds versus
jocks at Rice.
Speaker 2 (01:48:15):
Huh uh.
Speaker 6 (01:48:16):
Well yeah, and then you get the band, their their
own little Oh yeah, the Mob. They're not cool, they
do cool stunt, they're awkward. They us like the Mob
back in the nineties they were funny. They're just really odd.
Now really they don't. I don't think they take showers.
Speaker 2 (01:48:36):
Not for sure. What makes you say that? And on
what are you basing this? The worst take of her head.
Speaker 6 (01:48:45):
Okay, I guess, so, can you get a couple of
thousand Rice students to go to the game if you're
serving free beer?
Speaker 3 (01:48:53):
Can you?
Speaker 2 (01:48:54):
I'll say this. If this doesn't get them to come, nothing, well,
it's you know what.
Speaker 6 (01:48:59):
Unfortunately, it's a huge risk by Rice because if you
leave risk, No, it's a optics risk. If you often
offer beer and you use people still don't go. I'm
glad they're trying to do something. Let's take a look
at the comment section here. Okay, uh, this is an
(01:49:23):
awesome good move. Tulane Athletics Forum says, yes, No, I
don't think Tulane knows that it's not for them.
Speaker 2 (01:49:31):
Hell yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:49:32):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (01:49:32):
Doctor Buddy ry Dell says, I hope the twenty three
fans in attendants can all find safe rides home. They're
eighteen and a half point dogs. It's North Texas. Highly
recommend that student section go tarps off. See all these
off Yeah, all these North Texas fans think it's the
beers for them.
Speaker 2 (01:49:52):
It's not for them.
Speaker 6 (01:49:53):
No, it's for the Rice to You need a student
ID right, Yes, it says free beer student per with Rice.
Speaker 8 (01:50:00):
I d.
Speaker 2 (01:50:02):
I'm sorry North Texas. You may come to the game,
but you're not getting the free beer. So you know
what this is? This to me?
Speaker 6 (01:50:11):
Could I mean, I appreciate the effort and the desire
to try to get the student body involved, but this
could be this could be work to their negative when
you have all those Nord texts been No. Look, I
went to North Texas. They can drink beer there. That's
probably my first rounds of nickel beers in my life,
way back in the day. Wow for one nickel, one nickel.
(01:50:32):
It was small Dixie cup beers. Still a nickel. Okay,
it wasn't great tasting. I believe it was old Milwaukee
or Milwaukee's best the Beast.
Speaker 2 (01:50:42):
You took your team model forward.
Speaker 6 (01:50:44):
No stop, it's terrible team. No, it was a Nissan CenTra. Okay,
stick shift. I haven't driven a stick shift in thirty
plus years. You prefer stick? No, Nope, automatic, just poland
go twelve forty two of the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 2 (01:51:06):
Ross. Can we get back to some Texans conversation?
Speaker 3 (01:51:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:51:09):
Please please please please go to break down the game.
Go ahead.
Speaker 6 (01:51:13):
I want Matt Thomas' three keys to victory for the
Houston Texans. You'll get him next to twelve forty three
on Sports Talk seven ninety all Right, three things that
are gonna have to happen tonighty. Uh, you're going to
have to Josh Allen's gonna turn the ball over probably
at least twice. That's number one. Number two, I think
(01:51:40):
every time the Texans touched the football inside the twenties,
they're gonna have to get if they're gonna use their
ground game, they're gonna have to go to for at
least four and a half yards to carry something like that.
Gotta keep things honest. It'll be nice to be doable.
This is a horrible rushing defense.
Speaker 8 (01:51:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:51:59):
In number three, while Josh Allen is the main go
to guy for the Broncos, for the Bills, they've got
a great ground game. And I think if you're sleeping
on the Bills rushing attack, you're gonna be in major
trouble today because right now James Cook is got approaching
one thousand yards, he's got seven touchdowns. Now, Josh Allen's
(01:52:23):
probably the better pound for pound runner in terms of
based on his ability and what he can do with
not only with his arm but his legs. But if
you're sitting on James Cook, You're gonna be in trouble spot.
So I would say force Allen to get in more
third and longs. Don't let your James Cook get your
five six yards in first down. You need to get
four or five yards on first down against the worst
(01:52:44):
rushing defense in the NFL, and force Josh Allen to
turn the ball over twice.
Speaker 2 (01:52:50):
Special teams you'll do fine better red zone. It is
what it is, Davis Mills. I don't think that.
Speaker 6 (01:52:58):
I don't think the bright lights are too big for
the job today. It's not like you're I mean, of
all the defenses he'll have faced, I mean Buffalo's defense
again is not going to be nearly as imposing as say,
going against Denver's defense. Money Mills won't crack under the pressure,
won't be good enough. No, you know there's a difference,
and that's that's exactly the point. There's a difference in
the moment is too big as to can he just
(01:53:19):
do it? The reality is I don't think he can
do it long term, But don't put the ball in
his hands. Don't go eighty yards and needing eighty yards
at a minute six off the clock with no timeout.
I mean, you needed it in the Jacksonville game and
he came through. But I think from a talent standpoint,
Buffalo is significant. Rest my laurels on it. You're gonna
win with defense, and it's gonna be exactly what Demiko
(01:53:39):
Ryans wants. He wants to win with defense and running
the ball. That's what the text. That's the Texans formulative
victory tonight since the night, well since the day he
got here too. Yes, that's how he is. He's old
school defensive coach. Do you think that's ever going to change?
Are we not necessarily stuck with that? Because I think
if you sign a defensive minded coach, you're always gonna
have that. But is there a when you know, when
(01:54:02):
the season is done, is there going to be a
serious philosophical change within the organization to say, maybe we've
got to do some more. We've got to go get
that improved offensive line. We've got to go get another playmaker,
We've got to go get a running back. I mean,
they drafted two wide receivers. You have Nico Collins, they
signed Christian Kirk. You should be Dalton schultzsk has not
(01:54:23):
been good here.
Speaker 2 (01:54:24):
He just hasn't.
Speaker 6 (01:54:25):
He hasn't, and now he's been splitting slot time with
Xavier Hutchinson. Well, yeah, no, Jalen Knowle, Yeah, but Hudgins
has been the number two receives. Hutchinson's been Hudginson's Actually,
I actually like Hutchinson as like your fourth receiver. He
blocks well, he can get open here and there, fairly reliable.
Don't ask too much of Yeah, your fourth receiver. I
like Xavier Hutchins. Actually, uh, he's just not special. So
(01:54:47):
you in theory, everything should be falling into place. But
you've had no Joe Mixon all season long, and the
offensive line has been bad, and then now you've had c. J.
Stroud hurt for a couple of games, and before that,
early on the season he was underperforming. Honestly, look, I
said two and one gets him to the playoffs because
(01:55:07):
I think that the back third of the schedule is
relatively easy. But you got back to back road games
at Indianapolis and at Kansas City. You better dann one
win this one tonight, this short week, Buffalo coming here.
You've been home all week, You've had more time for
I mean, look, it's a screw week for both teams.
(01:55:31):
Davis Mills has enough reps now that he's comfortable in
his own skin running things. Josh Allen has not performed
well in Houston, although I think aren't the bill's pretty
good on Thursday night?
Speaker 8 (01:55:41):
Though?
Speaker 3 (01:55:41):
Are they not?
Speaker 2 (01:55:42):
I think they are? Josh Allen?
Speaker 5 (01:55:46):
So what?
Speaker 6 (01:55:46):
That doesn't matter today? I'm sorry. It doesn't matter what
day of the week it is. Who are the opponents
in those games? Were the other opponents injured? What were
the hell of the games play out? I don't I
need I need context for all that, all right, So
you're worried about it?
Speaker 2 (01:55:59):
Give me the score.
Speaker 6 (01:56:00):
Niko Ryans isn't getting in his pregame meeting, going guys,
Josh Allen is hating no on Thursday night?
Speaker 2 (01:56:05):
An't worried about that? You know what he said?
Speaker 6 (01:56:07):
When are you saying Josh Allen's a great quarterback? Yes,
of course, regardless of what his record is. On Thursday night,
twenty seven to twenty Buffalo. Now, usually I don't make
the predictions either too, So I must I must as inside,
I must know something.
Speaker 2 (01:56:24):
Twenty to nineteen Texans? What's up? Twenty tons? Let's go?
Speaker 7 (01:56:29):
What's up?
Speaker 2 (01:56:29):
Nineteen? Scared? Nineteen?
Speaker 8 (01:56:33):
Was there?
Speaker 6 (01:56:34):
He scored thirteen against the Dolphins. Is there a mixed
extra point in the mix somewhere?
Speaker 2 (01:56:38):
I don't know. There's always weird game, weird scores in football.
Speaker 6 (01:56:41):
Now, Okay, so now that Ian rappaport uh basically justify
my predict my thought on the Joe Mixon injury.
Speaker 2 (01:56:49):
Are we ever gonna get the real.
Speaker 7 (01:56:50):
News on that?
Speaker 2 (01:56:50):
Because remember how cranky Demiko.
Speaker 6 (01:56:53):
Was about Joe Mixers like a jet skiing accident had
to be something though, I mean, the rumors have been
that he had some sort of botched, unoff thorized surgery.
That's basically been the room. And the problem is we
shouldn't go off that because that's a rumor. But when
the team is not forthcoming, you only lead in you.
Speaker 2 (01:57:10):
Why can't you say?
Speaker 6 (01:57:12):
The question is the the air of mystery makes us
think that it's something bad or something that was unauthorized, something,
because otherwise, what if he was just working out at
home and he tore his a cl or he gotta
leave frankingdury whatever it's a foot injury right or ankle
whatever broke his ankle and he was doing something that
was above board, that was part of his workout regimen
and happens to players all the time and we hear
(01:57:34):
about it. Oh he was working out and he tore something.
Can't you say that?
Speaker 2 (01:57:40):
I got history too. Athletes during the off season, they
got and do things.
Speaker 6 (01:57:44):
Yeah, that's what makes you me thinking if he went
skydiving and he landed on his ankle, Yeah, he's.
Speaker 2 (01:57:47):
Like zip blinding in Bolivia, Like what was he doing?
We we don't know. And I'm not for I'm not
against the players got and do some adventures some stuff
either go go be a ww.
Speaker 6 (01:58:00):
Absolutely, you hat a boot on your don't own your body.
They don't, but optics or something. I'm just saying, just
thrown it out there. That's why I brought it to
the court.
Speaker 8 (01:58:09):
I know.
Speaker 6 (01:58:10):
We got to stop listening to the mob. There's idiots,
and it's worse and worse and worse as it goes along.
And again, think about the Scataboo thing. For those who
don't know, Camp Scataboo with the Giants running back is
done for the year with the bad ankle. It mean,
very very gruesome ankle injury. He's in a boot, he's
out for the ear. He was pushing around with some
other WB wrestlers that's forhearst. That's difference. Now, if we
(01:58:36):
heard about Cam skataboo in a bar in Homebulken, that's
very stupid of him. But also whatever.
Speaker 2 (01:58:47):
We'll see.
Speaker 6 (01:58:48):
So I I guess the answer will be it will
take somebody outside of Houston to tell us what really
happened the Joe mixing. Yeah, I mean, the truth will
come out at some point. But if it was just
some regular injury would have heard about it. So how
about there has to be some crazy circumstance. How about
Johnny Mixon goes and play somewhere else next year? He
will and he starts to test where he wants to go,
(01:59:09):
and teams will say, well, we wanted to offer him
three years at a certain dollar, and he chose us
to go against us. Maybe they will be the team
that would kinda whisper what happened. Yeah, maybe it feels
like something has to come out at some point. Give
the Texans credit. They haven't said word one about it,
and when asked about it, don't you water carrying Ian
Rappaport hasn't put it out yet. What do you say
(01:59:32):
the Texans feel confident about what here though drafted woody
marks and Nick Chubb has a yards per carry of
over four oh okay, which is just mid, which is
boot looking at its finest. That's pretty bad. The Texans
are in Texas.
Speaker 8 (01:59:47):
You know we did.
Speaker 2 (01:59:48):
I just don't get it today.
Speaker 3 (01:59:48):
I get it.
Speaker 6 (01:59:49):
I mean, you gotta do the you gotta give to
get you have to do the pr spin in order
to get this information. Ian Rappaport's playing the game. It's
a game he's very well versed at and he knows
what he's doing and he will get more texting stories
because of things that he just tweeted earlier today. All right,
Emay Doka is the Rockets coach won five and roll
last night beating the Cacula bab. We'll talk to him next.
(02:00:09):
We got Brian Mtaggart also on the one o'clock hour,
and Houston coach Willie Fritz. It's a busy final hour
the Matt Thomas Show at Ross. If you want to
join us, you may do so at seven to one
three two one two five seven ninetie seven one three
two one two five seven.
Speaker 2 (02:00:22):
NINTI is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
Speaker 6 (02:00:31):
Rockets won there fifth in row last night in Cleveland.
Let's talk about it for ten minutes with the head
coach of the Houston Rockets, Emay Doka with us here
on the Matt Thomas Show with Ross tomorrow night, Denver
in Town. But first things first, victory over the Cavaliers, coach,
thanks for the time. What a strange second half. You
score seventeen and a third and put up a forty
spot in the fourth That in quarter break must have
(02:00:53):
been quite a conversation between you and the boys.
Speaker 8 (02:01:02):
Really when we went up twenty two, got a little stagnant,
you know, stopped going away from the things that got
us the lead. And when you got some really good
scores like don with Mitchell Hunter on that night, they
can get back in the game easily.
Speaker 6 (02:01:13):
Hey, the first half of something special. You guys held
them to horrific three point shooting. That had to have
been part of the repertoire. Because they shoot so many
of them doesn't necessarily mean they make a lot of them.
And boy, they couldn't find him in the first half especially.
Speaker 8 (02:01:27):
Yeah, focus with us to you know, defend Mitchell, you know,
make it hard on him and you know, kind of
lived with some others guys. A Hunter made a few,
but other than that we had some guys taking shots
that we prefer them to take the whole Mitchell the
two points and on one for seven in the first
half is pretty much as good as you can get.
We knew he'd come out aggressive in the third, and
he did that and made a few shots. Like I said,
we got a little stagnant, and you know, they're gonna
(02:01:49):
keep firing, They're gonna keep paying with that pace, and
that's what got them back in the game.
Speaker 6 (02:01:52):
You know, sometimes stagnant play is going to be happening.
It's a long season. But you found another hero last night.
And I feel like I'm talking to somebody different on
the post game very night, because there are different heroes.
What Aaron Holliday did for you in the fourth quarter
that had to been maybe his best stretches of Houston Rocket.
Speaker 2 (02:02:06):
What you got from you last night.
Speaker 8 (02:02:08):
Yeah, he was great. He came in and made timely shots.
You know, he's we have to foul trouble across the
board a little bit with Jabari and some guys, and
so we need some other guys to come in and
you know, defend Hunter, defend Mitchell, and you know, he
did what he could there. But on the offensive end
our Brandon Kevin are going to draw that attention. He
obviously knocked down timely shots, but got a lot of deflections,
(02:02:29):
hands on the ball, get on transition, made some layups
and floaters as well.
Speaker 6 (02:02:33):
Yeah, May you were a role player in the NBA,
so you obviously empathize the guys that are on that
second tier group. What have you used as your experiences
to talk to guys that Aaron's not gonna be called
every single night, but make the most of his opportunity
that's given to him.
Speaker 8 (02:02:48):
Here's you have to be professional, which he is. He's
been there from day one. Be ready for every opportunity,
and sometimes it's going to be two minutes, three minutes
here you have to come in and perform. And when
you come in the game in those situations, your job
is to increase the lead and get an uptick and
effort and all the intensity and all those things. And
I think that's that's it's a tough thing to do,
(02:03:08):
but it's an admirable thing the way Aaron goes about it.
Jay Shawn. Those guys ready to play aren't always called.
Have to stay prepared and you see the work they
put him behind the scenes, and so for us, it's
no secret that no surprise that they're going to make
shots and play at a high level and they get
their opportunity.
Speaker 6 (02:03:24):
Rockets head coach Immiadoka was a here on Sports Talk
seven to ninety Aubryn Schoon continues to impress, even going
after and scoring on the defensive player of the Year
down the stretch in the last game, where even since
you've been here, what have you seen from him as
far as growth in his game?
Speaker 8 (02:03:44):
That's his poise, understand against a long game, if he
has some ups and downs, he's gonna still have his
opportunities to make plays on you know, whether scoring the
ball or facilitating for him. I don't think he looks
at anybody as a defensive player year or anything like that,
and neither do we we Still he has an advantage
every night on who and whether it's mobile one night
or who be it. You know, he's going to attack
(02:04:04):
the same way, be aggressive, and he's confident his ability
to score and make the right play on anybody.
Speaker 2 (02:04:10):
Obviously, one of the nicknames he's gotten has been baby Joker.
What do you think I mean?
Speaker 6 (02:04:14):
Obviously, Nikola Jokicic is just a different animal. But when
you you hear those comparisons, what do you think about
the similarities and differences of their games.
Speaker 8 (02:04:24):
Well, I mean there's the fact that they both, you know,
are flirting with triple doubles every night. Jokis has had
a ton alp He's right around there the passing ability
and it's just not a typical back to the basket center.
They both can score in the post, but they can
handle on the perimeter, they can be we can run
pick and rolls for them, They got isolations on the wing.
I would say the difference is at this point, Jokic
(02:04:45):
is just more seasoned and he understands and makes a
simple play. Alf he'll get caught up but every now
and then. But you know, he's young and ambitious and
learning on the fly as well. And I think for
him that his athleticism a little higher than Jokic's. And
so they have a ton of similarities. And that's obviously
a great name to compared to, but I'll be trying
to carve out his own niche and he looks up
to him and the things he does and season areas
(02:05:05):
he can be successful as well.
Speaker 6 (02:05:07):
I know he's been floating with triple doubles a lot
so far this year. Does he ever beg to stay
on the floor to get that one final assist or
does he get like one shot in one channel, need
to get it done.
Speaker 8 (02:05:16):
Of course they all beg the seeing and to me,
if you get in the natural flow of the game, great,
it's not We're not going to leave you in up
thirty and risk injury or anything like that. And so
you know it'll happen. It continues. He's had him in
European competition. He's flat flirter wh him like you said here,
and so you know last year he had an injury.
Having now I'm in you know he's won away and
(02:05:36):
rolled his ankles out for a few games, so less
and learned. Will never do that again. But guys understand that,
especially a big you got to play with the game.
He messed around with it. Things happening, so h he'll
have a chance to get a ton and he will
throughout his career.
Speaker 2 (02:05:49):
How is a man embraced the role.
Speaker 6 (02:05:52):
He's been your starting point guard and it's not an
exclusively ball handled, but he's been in that lineup and
then in that back cord, and he moved him all
over the spots life because of injuries or whatnot. I know,
turnovers are always a thing, and it's not his exclusive
responsibility to make sure the low turnovers aren't coming.
Speaker 2 (02:06:06):
Players are going to come into play, obviously, But.
Speaker 6 (02:06:08):
Where do you see him now as compared to start
of the season in terms of just embracing the role
of I'm in that back court every single time and
I'm the primary ball handler.
Speaker 8 (02:06:18):
It's just an understanding of, you know, one to be
an attack mode looking to score, when to set guys
up and look to get us into sets. And so
at times, you know, we love him when he grabs
the rebounds and pushes at the pace he does, he's
going to either get to the basket or find guys.
But in the half court is who needs to shot?
Who are we trying to get a mismatch against, cross
match against? And then understanding that part of it. And
so it's only eleven games in and he's twelve games in.
(02:06:41):
He's improving rapidly at that. But it's different from him.
I mean, he had in his hands a ton throughout
his career and ote last two years did a bunch
of different stuff off ball, and now we're asking him
to get back to facilitating that as well as being
aggressive the scorer. So it's a balancing act that he's
improving on game by game.
Speaker 6 (02:06:58):
You mentioned in injuries and trying to keep guys off
the floor and try to avoid that. And there were
some comments from Steve Kerr earlier this week about the
pace of the game now and the way that guys
are pushing their bodies just in your eyes from when
you've been playing for from now, what do you think
about those comments from Steve Kurff you heard them and
just how the game has evolved, and do you think
(02:07:21):
the way that the game has changed, do you think
it is causing more injuries.
Speaker 8 (02:07:25):
I don't know. It's a tough argument to have. You know,
there were one hundred and forty point games back in
the eighties. Consistently guys play seventy two games or eighty
two games back in the eighties, and you know, I always,
you know, I think I take pride on this guy
like Jalen last year the last two years playing all
eighty two games, and different guys that are playing all games,
and so some guys don't want to sit out. We
(02:07:46):
understand the risk on older guys, But you know, at
the same time, it's a balancing act. I think you
don't want to give guys a cop out, but also
understanding those nights of rest, especially three or four nights,
they'll start to add up. But I'm always good as
far as that, and I always give guys examples of
John Stockton missing seventeen games over his career, and like
fourteen of them were due to a broken hands, so
(02:08:08):
that's three games and a twenty year career. Karl Malone
missed like seven games five or due to suspension, and
so I go down those things, and Michael Jordan playing
all eighty two at forty years old, so you can
look at it both plays and guys got to con
condition themselves to be ready to play. But at the
same time, you know it's a balancing act of.
Speaker 6 (02:08:27):
Your ten youngest guys on the team. If you said
John Stockton's name, how many one know who John Stockton is?
Speaker 3 (02:08:34):
They all do.
Speaker 8 (02:08:34):
He's a Hall of Famer assist leader, and so they
may not have seen him, but they know who he is.
And so you know, I tell reading guys all the time.
Stockton was on the toughest guys sitting cross screens, not
getting bullied by Biggs, you know, taking hard fouls and
so just because you're a smaller point guard doesn't mean
get out of the way and get him a layup.
I use John Stockton as an example all the time.
Speaker 6 (02:08:53):
All right, good, because I'm really nervous. These guys don't
know who these great ogs are. And if I let
you run a thought or two about this Denver team,
it's a group game tomorrow night. I'm excited about it.
The energy will be nice. It'll be a little later games,
so people get out and do their thing before coming
to the game. But look, we had a great time
in Vegas last year and I think those guys wanted
to have an opportunity to do that again. And tomorrow
night will be a huge portion of how this group played.
(02:09:15):
Tournament turns out.
Speaker 8 (02:09:17):
Yes, it's added intentive for sure. You know, the energy
is different, like you mentioned, and I think the fact
that we got there last year and had a really
tight game against Okay, see that we didn't play our
best and if we did, we were you know, had
a good fifteen point lead probably if we made some
shots because we defended at such a high level. We
want to get back and give ourselves a chance again
and be on that stage. And so, you know, if
(02:09:37):
not only the fact that we're neck and neck in
the standings already, just you know, to two really competitive
teams that have about a good start, the tournament adds
to it. And anytime you play a team like Denvers,
some of the top of the West, you want to
have a great game.
Speaker 6 (02:09:50):
Thank you Iman for the time. It's always well, see
you tomorrow, and I appreciate the visitors always.
Speaker 8 (02:09:54):
Thank you guys.
Speaker 6 (02:09:54):
You can see he made a duke a Rockets coach
with us here as he is weekly on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 2 (02:09:59):
Hoey, all right, the other big news the day besides
the big Texans bills.
Speaker 6 (02:10:02):
Showdown. It's a showdown. It is going to be a showdown.
It's a throwdown in Texas. Get your boots in your
hat and your spurs. Are they gonna use those kind
of graphics?
Speaker 1 (02:10:12):
No, they do that.
Speaker 2 (02:10:14):
What are we going to a rodeo here?
Speaker 8 (02:10:15):
Or why? That's what?
Speaker 2 (02:10:16):
That's what the cliches that.
Speaker 6 (02:10:17):
Always goes Waylon Jennings sing the national anthem that night
or what I think he's dead.
Speaker 2 (02:10:20):
I think he is too, So that would really make
it out there. What's his name, Clint Black.
Speaker 17 (02:10:25):
I would love Clint Black to sing the Nation Land
changing up a little bit. Throw your ages up, especially
if you're in the media, you throw those hes up.
Let's go, you're throwing your ages up?
Speaker 2 (02:10:36):
Yeah? Okay for h Tage. You know, you know he's
not throwing his hes up anymore.
Speaker 6 (02:10:42):
Cal McNair, Muricio Duban, Oh, we'll talk to Brian mcgaggtant
about that next one twelve on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 2 (02:10:48):
Natty ROSSI and I caught up with Brian mctaggett earlier today.
We missed the conversation. Shame on you.
Speaker 6 (02:10:56):
Secondly, here he is talking about how surprised he was
one to ten Mauricio Dubon and Ramon Urius off of
the Astros roster and out of the infield plans for
twenty twenty.
Speaker 13 (02:11:10):
Six, probably probably two or three. I mean, if you
would have told me at the end of the season,
I thought they would have kept one of those guys.
But as you talk to more people, as the off
season goes on, and you realize they got to free
up some money to do some other things, and then
it became it became likely that you know, paying Mauricio
(02:11:33):
Dubon six and a half seven million dollars when if
this team is healthy, he probably doesn't play much at all.
Speaker 3 (02:11:41):
Just doesn't make a lot of sense.
Speaker 13 (02:11:43):
And so that's and you know infields an area of strength,
they have a lot of depth there when they're healthy,
So it makes sense. It's not like they're going to
put all this money from I think it's about eight
point five million they're saving by by Urius and Dubon
being gone. It's not like they're going to stick that
in their pocket. They're gonna try to reallocate it and
get some pitching, which is their their biggest needs. So
(02:12:04):
the long way to go in this offseason. I know
Debaum was a popular player, man, you know, I loved
being to death and was texting last night and laughing
and uh uh man. You know, we've seen this stuff
before us a business, and at the end of the day,
it all comes down the money.
Speaker 6 (02:12:18):
So do you think this was part of the plane
was to get rid of two utility guys. Does that
mean now Christian Walker is safe or is everything still
on the table when it comes to shaking up this
infield for twenty twenty six.
Speaker 13 (02:12:32):
I think if they traded Christian Walker. They're gonna have
to trade. They got like trade Perettis probably and until
and I don't think they're going to do that. I
think Dana Brown's come out and said he's not gonna
do that. So I don't think Christian Walker is going anywhere.
I mean they got rid of to you to utility players.
They did add Nick Allen so he can play up
the middle. Perettis, you know, can play first and third.
Speaker 8 (02:12:53):
Uh.
Speaker 13 (02:12:54):
You know Korea can play short and third base. So uh,
they're covered in a lot of different ways without Dubon
because that you know, Alan can't come in late in
the game.
Speaker 3 (02:13:03):
And you know Fhill a need as well.
Speaker 13 (02:13:06):
You know, not a great offensive player, buddy, he's younger,
and you know, maybe he's got a little bit of
an upside and he's got three years of control left
when Dubon would have been gone after this year.
Speaker 6 (02:13:15):
What does this mean, if anything, for Bryce Matthews. Do
you think they're planning on him having a role in
the infield.
Speaker 13 (02:13:21):
Yeah, I think it opens up maybe a little spot
to where if he has a good spring, he can
force his way in there. You know, we've seen him
play some short and second, you know, can he you know,
maybe he beats out Nick Allen for a spot in
the middle of the infield, you know, I know, you know,
he's the first raft pick that Dana Brown had come
into the Astros, and he's a guy Dana Brown really likes.
And you know, he had flashes last year where he
(02:13:43):
looked really good and he had a really good minor
league season, so he's played a little bit of outfield
as well. So I think Matthews very much, if he
has a strong sprint, can put himself on the map
to get to get in here and get something bats
in this infield. But you know, right now it's a
pretty crowded infield. They got rid of two players, got
one back, and they still probably have too many players
(02:14:03):
on the infield. So you know, they still have thirteen
guys that are arbitration eligible that on Friday they have
to tender contracts too, So there's gonna be a few
more guys who are going to get non tendered or
maybe they trade somebody before Friday so they can get
something back in return. So we'll just get we're just
getting started in this offseason. There's gonna be a lot
of stuff going on.
Speaker 2 (02:14:22):
Yeah, that was leading me to my next question.
Speaker 6 (02:14:24):
Brian McTaggert MLB dot Com with us here on Sports
Talk seven ninety I mean, where where do you think
the next domino is? There has been mentioned of Jake Myers.
We just hinted at you did with Matt about Esik
Paratus or Christian Walker. I mean, where do you think
the next move comes from?
Speaker 13 (02:14:43):
Yeah, it would not shock me if they trade Jake
Myers before Friday. I think they feel it's probably time
maybe to see, you know, see what Zach Cole has. Yes,
he strikes out a lot, but you know, Jeremy pen
You're struck out a lot too when he came up.
Let's find out what Jake Melton has, you know, you know,
looks like there's gonna be a big year for Cam
Smith and right field. You knows, Hey, sus Sanchez still
(02:15:04):
going to be here. They're gonna dfa him, and you
know a few other role players you might be on
the bubble, you know, guys like Tremmel and so forth.
But yeah, they're still trying to shape this and I
think once they get all the position players sorted out,
we get past this arbitration deadline. They get a better
idea their payroll. Uh, they're going to go start to
acquire some pitching. But I ess would be surprised at
(02:15:26):
this point if they traded Parretes because I think he's
going to be right in the middle of that lineup.
And I think Walker would just be really tough to
trade at this point.
Speaker 2 (02:15:33):
As well, because of the fandom.
Speaker 6 (02:15:36):
It's a tough move for a lot of fans today
because Mauriceo did a variety of things. But if there's
an end game to it, making it a sexier offseason,
I get the sense. And again, I'm gonna trust you
more than myself, but it feels like to me there's
gonna be some shuffling for sure, but we're gonna be
still looking for that wow moment.
Speaker 2 (02:15:54):
I don't know if we're gonna get it this offseason.
Speaker 6 (02:15:56):
Do you feel like there is something in Dana's repertoire
it says, let's go get somebody that people don't anticipate
the Astros having on their radar.
Speaker 3 (02:16:05):
I don't think so.
Speaker 13 (02:16:06):
I don't think there's gonna be a wow moment. I
think there's gonna be a lot of moving pieces, and
I think they're gonna acquire a lot of players who
people are gonna go like, okay, whatever, and then the
Astros will have to see how they fit. I just
don't see them going after the Dylan ceases and guys
of the top market of the starting pitchers, because I
just don't think they're gonna spend that money. I mean,
(02:16:27):
they haven't done that, uh, you know, in this ownership,
and I don't think things are gonna change. And and
that you know, they are a little bit budget conscience.
They're not cheap. They're trying to keep it close to
the the CBT without going over, so there's gonna be
some challenges there. But I do think the a lot
a couple of arms, not high level arms, but arms.
Speaker 3 (02:16:44):
Uh.
Speaker 13 (02:16:45):
But I don't think we're you know, they're not gonna
They're not gonna go out and sign a frontline free
agent outfielder or bring in, you know, a top starting pitcher.
That's just not gonna happen, and that's not what they need.
If this team can stay healthy and they can add
a couple of depth pieces to the to the middle
of the rotation, this is a team that I think
still is a playoff team and a team that could
(02:17:06):
win the American League West next year.
Speaker 6 (02:17:08):
Come more minutes here with Brian mctagger at MLB dot
com tags. Do you think there's going to be some
really heartfelt conversations between the Astros and Hunter Brown and
then separately Jeremy PAYNYA.
Speaker 3 (02:17:22):
Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 13 (02:17:22):
I mean they're kind of to the point here, especially
especially with Penya, to where they have to maybe get
an extension this year.
Speaker 3 (02:17:31):
A year from that will be interesting.
Speaker 13 (02:17:32):
I mean, if we don't have a workstoppage, will they
be sort of in the in the Kyle Tucker position
to where like, Okay, we're going to trade Payya to
get something for him, and you know that, you know,
and that's that.
Speaker 3 (02:17:44):
Probably it was a trade that made sense for the
Astros at this time.
Speaker 13 (02:17:46):
I mean, the Cubs give up three players and didn't
get very far with Kyle Tucker, so, uh, you know,
Hunter Brown probably a conversation they're having as well. I think,
especially with Hunter Brown, he's a guy I think you
can build your rotation in a round for the next
five or six years. But they're gonna have to go
out of the box and have one of their biggest
pitching contracts that they've ever had, and uh, you know,
(02:18:08):
I don't know if they're prepared to do that or not.
Speaker 6 (02:18:12):
And just one more about the well, go back to
the catching situation with do you think there's much of
a change or what do you think happens there? Of course,
with Victor Krattini now as a free agent and Yaner
Diaz and how they feel about him being an everyday catcher.
Speaker 13 (02:18:29):
Yeah, Yanner is going to be their started going forward.
I mean, they hired they haven't announced it yet, but
I reported this morning they haven't a new catching coach
that they've hired, Kim Cossins coming in was that the
Orioles work with Adlie Rushman. I mean, he's going to
be a key guy in trying to get Jiner better
behind the plate. I thought at the end of the
season it was probably a really good chance Keratini's gonna
(02:18:50):
come back, But now I get the sense that that's
not going to be the case. So, you know, so
they're going to be in the market as they are
for a backup catcher at this point. You know, maybe
at some point next year. Walter Yannick, who's one of
their top prospects, a first round pick, out at Sam Houston.
Maybe he gets a shot if he comes up. But
going into this year, Yainer is going to be their
their starting catcher, and you know, he's got to make
(02:19:13):
stride with his approach at the plate, he's got to
get better behind the plate, and that those are gonna
be a couple of the real tasks between now and
opening day that they're going to be working closely with him,
especially in spring training to get kind of get those
things done. But unless there's some kind of surprising trade,
I think Yanners behind the plate on an opening day
next year.
Speaker 6 (02:19:30):
So what would be to wrap up our conversation, what
would absolutely wow you in terms of, oh my goodness,
I didn't think the Astro has had this in their
bag of tricks.
Speaker 3 (02:19:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (02:19:40):
I think if they find a way to get a
one or two starting pitcher from somebody, whether that's a trade,
and I think they will make a couple of trades.
I just don't know if they have the trade capital
to do something like that. If they, you know, if
they get somebody like Ranger Sworez or you know, our
King or somebody like that, I'd be like wow. But
I and again, the starting pitching market, these guys at
(02:20:02):
the top end are going to want so much money.
Speaker 3 (02:20:05):
They're just not in position to do that.
Speaker 13 (02:20:07):
I think if they're going to get an impact starter,
it's going to be more of more and a trade
at this point. But I still see them matting in
a couple of arms, maybe a couple of bullpen arms,
because you know, look at what they did last year.
Speaker 3 (02:20:21):
How many pitchers did they have.
Speaker 13 (02:20:22):
I don't even know, but they probably went through ten, twelve,
thirteen starting pitchers and it still wasn't enough. They still
could have used more arms. So you talked to Dana Brown.
Every time you talk to him, he's like, we need pitching, pitching, pitching.
Jim Crane says the same thing, and that's their number
one goal here in the off season is to add pitching.
And that's what this du Bond move was made, was
to get some money so they can go get some arms.
Speaker 2 (02:20:43):
I'm all right.
Speaker 6 (02:20:44):
That again is Brian McTaggart from earlier today here on
Sports Talk Sonny. Thank you to mister taggart for his
work on that story. I want to tell you that, well,
they Fritz is coming up in a matter of moments,
and you and listen to that conversation with University of
Houston football coach after I tell you about giving your
Homer business a fresh coat of paint.
Speaker 2 (02:21:05):
One thirty three Sports Talk seven nin eighty.
Speaker 6 (02:21:07):
We have missed talking to our man, the coach of
our beloved Houston Cougars eight and two on the season,
looking for win number nine. This Saturday three o'clock TDECU
stading Willie Fritz is with us here on the show.
Speaker 2 (02:21:18):
Willie, thank you for the time. I kind of like it.
Speaker 6 (02:21:21):
I don't know if you scheduled it intentionally this way
or the big twelve guys did it for you, but
having two off weeks in the middle of the season's
kind of nice.
Speaker 2 (02:21:28):
Give you a chance to regroup for the final stretch here, Yeah.
Speaker 11 (02:21:32):
It is good. I don't have that power.
Speaker 10 (02:21:34):
So we got fortunate and you know, wait, a seven
game stretch there where we played week after a week,
and a couple of times in short weeks where we
played on Friday. But I do think the bye week
came to a good time. We were able to heal
up and you know, just make sure there are guys
are ready for these last two very very important ball games.
Speaker 6 (02:21:53):
They are important. Their in state rivals. And I know
that everyone wants to argue about how the league looks
as a six seeing team group and who you play
and who you don't play. But I would love, Willie
for you guys to be able to play TCU, Baylor
and Texa Tech every year. It's not gonna happen that way.
But there's just a little something special about playing the
in state schools, is there not?
Speaker 11 (02:22:12):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (02:22:12):
I think you know that we've said the same thing.
We think would be good if we could play those
you know three schools.
Speaker 11 (02:22:17):
I think you know it's.
Speaker 10 (02:22:19):
You know, our state, and everybody liked to play each other.
I think the other coaches feel the same way as well.
Speaker 6 (02:22:26):
Welly, the turnover battle was has not been your friend
the last few weeks, although you're overcome that in Orlando
with the frederictory against UCF. You have made it such
a priority as most coaches do, but you so more
than anybody else I've been around a long period of time.
It just must you want to pull your hair out
when you turn the ball over, and you're able to
overcome that against the Knights a couple weeks back.
Speaker 10 (02:22:46):
Yeah, it's uh, you know, we're we have four and
I think we're not being minus two on the game
and just makes it, you know, more difficult to win.
It just it's it's most telling statistic and football turnover
takeaway margin, and I've mentioned it many times in my career.
We've been plus one or better, We've won ninety one
percent of our game, and I think in the NFL
(02:23:07):
it's like sixty four percent off your plus one or
better as you're going to win. So it's an important statistic.
We work on it like crazy ball security offensively and
then you know, taking the ball away defensively, punching the
ball out, all those kind of different things. You're actually
seeing that a lot more college football and the NFL
than you know, I've ever seen before here the last
(02:23:28):
couple of years. But some we work on and you're right,
it's you know, I'm all day to day practice. I
just kept talking about plus one Cooch's win. You know
that we got to emphasize that every single day.
Speaker 6 (02:23:40):
But you got a late interception the contest against UCF.
Mess have made that flight to Orlando feel like if
I got a forty five minute trip, I think I
really did.
Speaker 10 (02:23:48):
It was big play by control web. You know, we
Uh think we went ahead and try to take a
shot in the end zone and they're down three, and
we were fortunate to you know, control really played it
well and do a good job of picking it and
I took a knee and we were able to.
Speaker 11 (02:24:04):
Go on home.
Speaker 6 (02:24:05):
You have during this time, and this is where some
of these postseason awards come into play. Tanner Kozu, your
special teams guys, it's kind of nice to get this
kind of recognition.
Speaker 2 (02:24:15):
So how do you let these young men say, yes,
you're getting this run.
Speaker 6 (02:24:19):
But at the same time, we got two weeks of
football at least to play, and not for that third
Bowl game coming up too.
Speaker 10 (02:24:24):
Yeah, those guys, I understand that. We're really you know happy.
Tanner's finalists for the John mckew Award. I think I
had explained to him who John mckew was.
Speaker 2 (02:24:35):
Zero surprise on that, by the way, that's.
Speaker 10 (02:24:37):
Right, But he really had a fantastic season. Fourst and
Denathan Sanchez, you know, it's done, just a great job.
I think he's nineteen of twenty two on field goals
on the Ears. When you know, I had a couple
of game winners as well, and you know, we always
tell them you know, I always make sure that I
announced it in front of the team. These guys get
special recognition. We've been lucky that we've had a bunch
(02:24:58):
of guys who've got special recognition this year.
Speaker 11 (02:25:01):
But you know, it's all about the team. They know that.
Speaker 10 (02:25:03):
I always tell him all the time, you want to
be about the individual or you you need to get
him get into MMA fighting. You know, don't have to
worry about anybody else, but this fights with ten other
guys when you're out there on the field and one
hundred and ten guys when we're in the locker room.
So they all understand that and do a great job
being great teammates.
Speaker 6 (02:25:21):
With all that being said, my last individual question, Cozio
looks the part tell me about bringing him away from
his previous school, coming here and then stepping on the
floor on the field of play.
Speaker 2 (02:25:33):
He looks the part where you have a professional tight end.
Speaker 6 (02:25:35):
I don't know what his future is going to be
on what the draft status is, and hopefully we're gonna
worry about that way down the road, but he just
looks like a guy that's going to be able to
do at the next level and has certainly been a
huge targeting threat for Connor Wigman.
Speaker 11 (02:25:48):
Yeah, he really has.
Speaker 10 (02:25:49):
Those two have developed a really good, you know relationship
throwing the ball and you know, on the field, off
the field, whatever.
Speaker 11 (02:25:56):
But he just got great hands. He's got great catch rate.
He talks about that all the time.
Speaker 10 (02:26:01):
But what really makes it specially is able to extend
his hands towards the ball.
Speaker 11 (02:26:05):
And he's a big guy. You know, he's six y six,
He's got tremendous reach.
Speaker 3 (02:26:10):
Uh.
Speaker 11 (02:26:10):
I think he's a pro guy.
Speaker 10 (02:26:12):
You know, they don't ask my opinion very much, but
you know, I definitely think he is. And uh, you know,
but like you said, we wanted to finish out for
the Koug's the very best he can.
Speaker 6 (02:26:22):
All right, let's get to TCU. First time I saw
them play this year. I'm sure you've looked at all
their film. They embarrassed the heck out of North Carolina,
I mean ruined. Coach Belichick's initial run. This season has
been good for them, but not great. They look to
rather pour us against b YU.
Speaker 3 (02:26:37):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (02:26:37):
And maybe it's because the Cougars, their Cougar's Willie putting
up some huge numbers, especially in provo. But a thought
or two about this TCU team that has had a
couple of very close affairs and then they obviously last
week they were shell shocked against the b YU Cougars.
Speaker 10 (02:26:52):
Yeah, they you know, I think up until that time
losses by less than a touchdown. You know, they've got
a lot of respect for which Digs known him a
long time. Got a you know, real quality quarterback, and Hoover,
you know, one of the top ones in the Big twelve,
really in the nation. Good receiving corps. You know, defensively,
(02:27:13):
you know, they really do a good job and not
allowing you to be successful running the football. They want
you to throw the football and then try to get
after you. And they've always had a really potent return
game special team. So it's gonna be a big test
for us. Our kids understand that. You know, we've been
you know, we worked on him a little bit the
week before. I just felt like, you know, we we'd
(02:27:36):
had that seven game stretch and we had a couple
of days where we worked on and then came back
back in on Monday and you went hot and heavy after.
So looking forward to the game three o'clock on Saturday, boy,
we sure would like to get a bunch of people
out there, and it'll be two quality teams fighting it
out at t d C Stadium.
Speaker 6 (02:27:55):
And reality is, last year, Willie, the best performance with
the Houston Cougar football team was probably in Fort Worth, Texas.
Speaker 2 (02:28:02):
Would you not agree?
Speaker 8 (02:28:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (02:28:04):
Plus four?
Speaker 11 (02:28:05):
You know imagine that. You know we weren't.
Speaker 10 (02:28:07):
We didn't have a real good offense last year, but
we really played well that game and kicked the ball
away from them and played great defense, and yeah, it was.
Speaker 11 (02:28:16):
It was a great game for us last season.
Speaker 10 (02:28:18):
But as we all know, each year is is a
brand new opportunity to play and see what you're all about,
and we will played great this Saturday.
Speaker 2 (02:28:28):
All right, Willie, thank you for the time.
Speaker 6 (02:28:29):
I'm gonna do everything in my humanly power to get
every Houston Cougar alive to get to your stadium on
Saturday afternoon for the three o'clock tilt. Looking forward to that,
and we'll look forward to our visit again next week
as we get ready for the game against Baylor.
Speaker 2 (02:28:39):
Thank you for the time, as always, Thank you.
Speaker 6 (02:28:42):
All right, that's Willie Fritz joining us here on the
program and reminder again in University Houston taking on TCU.
That'll be this Saturday, three o'clock TDUCU Stadium celebrating the
class of twenty five seniors. And if you want to
be there for twenty five dollars, you can do that
by going to uhcugars dot com. Uhcugars dot com slash
tickets are calling seven one three Go coogs at seven
(02:29:04):
one three go kugs for the Cougars and TCU is
Houston tries for their tenth win and they are now
number twenty three in the College Football pol rankings and
you know what, still a chance to make their make
their way to the Big twelve championship game. That have
to beat to TCU this week, bait our next week
and get some help for some folks above them. So again,
if you want to go to the game, twenty five
(02:29:25):
dollars for the tickets, uagecougars dot com slash tickets or
seven to one to three go cooks for the Houston
Cougars taking on the TCU horn Frogs. All right, we've
got coming up here, I believe or not we doing?
Did you able to get it? For a full of
Mariso du bond? Believe the 'or not going?
Speaker 2 (02:29:40):
Nope? Cheg your head, Nope, Nick Nick Oden, Nick Allen,
Hello Nick Allen, muricy to bomb.
Speaker 7 (02:29:47):
What's up?
Speaker 6 (02:29:48):
By way, did you do any personal searching on Nick
Allen at all? You mean, like just google Nick Allen? Yeah,
I google them and uh. He looks like Rudy on
the baseball field.
Speaker 2 (02:30:06):
That's it. He's like five eight wearing rex Beex.
Speaker 6 (02:30:08):
He looks like he looks if you're picturing a gritty
dude who plays great shortstop and can't hit a lick,
That's what he looks like.
Speaker 2 (02:30:16):
All right, can we make up a fake not for
Nick Allen? If you want, go ahead.
Speaker 6 (02:30:21):
I already sent the questions, but let's do a ninth
One'll see if people are even you make it up.
All right, Matt, here's the make up question. It's going
to be his father, Brian is a unicyclist. Okay, that's
a knot. That was an odd pool, Jonathan. It's going
to prove a point to me. We'll see, we will see.
(02:30:46):
You want to play believe it or not? All things

few more minutes before we get to believe it or
not Rossy twenty seven to twenty. The Buffalo Bills beat
the Houston Texans tonight, doesn't fade complete their season. But
(02:31:10):
then they would have to then, in my mind, win
at Indianapolis and at Kansas City to get to two
and one, which then put them at seven and six,
with still the Raiders to play, still the Cardinals to play,
that puts them at nine. They didn't have to either
split the game against the Chargers or the Colts to
(02:31:31):
get to ten and seven. They can do it, but
they must win two of the next three. Okay, if
you say so, I feel I feel like.
Speaker 2 (02:31:41):
That's a it's a it's a rationally thought out conversation.
One and two, six and seven, and then went out.
Speaker 6 (02:31:46):
Okay, I'll tell you this week eighteen at Indianapolis may
not mean much for the Colts.
Speaker 3 (02:31:53):
That's what I'm hoping for.
Speaker 2 (02:31:55):
You gotta be hoping for it. They could be clenched
and out of the first seed, but you're not. You're
not leaving in any room for air if you don't
beat if you don't go two and one.
Speaker 6 (02:32:02):
Well, the Texans and Damiico Ryans are only focused on
tonight and beating the Buffalo bills twenty to nineteen, twenty
to nineteen. That feels like a Texan score. It's a
tag and it's a Texan score, and it's a Thursday
night score.
Speaker 2 (02:32:18):
It's true.
Speaker 6 (02:32:19):
It is likely, seriously Buffalo draw drew a short short
straw on this Buffalo to Houston in a two hour flight.
Oh whatever, they're fine. It ain't five diamond, it's like
four diamond. How many hours of a flight does?
Speaker 2 (02:32:34):
It got to be close to four?
Speaker 6 (02:32:36):
So okay, that's so it's a one extra hour from
a three hour flight. Yeah, fine, one extra hour on
a plush post jumped. It's not plush the bill with
the bills coming on a prop jet. No, they're not
a regional. Come on on the concord. That concord may
serve me Lafe yeaterday. For those who don't know, the
(02:32:58):
NFL is quietly observing whether or not Concord flights will
be back in place, so they could maybe perhaps put
a team in there.
Speaker 2 (02:33:03):
Ridiculous. That is utterly ridiculous. Don't get me started.
Speaker 6 (02:33:09):
Actually, I'm just gonna shut up all right tomorrow on
the show, Yes, full Texans Bill's breakdown.
Speaker 2 (02:33:15):
Yes, what song we're gonna play tomorrow?
Speaker 6 (02:33:17):
Behind the Texans highlight music now now Michael Switch with
a gambler behind it. He likes putting me, he likes
talking odds, he does. What's a what's a song about?
Defeating expectations?
Speaker 2 (02:33:33):
Hmm? Against all odds?
Speaker 3 (02:33:37):
Oh?
Speaker 8 (02:33:37):
I like that?
Speaker 2 (02:33:38):
What did you to say? Sorry from the bottom that
we hear? Drake all right? Against all odds? Tupac? Oh,
against all odds? Phil Collins? Who why did nobody?
Speaker 6 (02:33:52):
That's a that's a crooner. You can't play a crooner
song on a Friday. We got a regular fartay song tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (02:33:56):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (02:33:56):
We don't have to worry about a song. How many
how many clips did you get of us? Seventeen? I
felt like this week was probably wait is this?
Speaker 6 (02:34:03):
It's been a quick week right now, don't use all
because next week we don't have a show Thursday and
Friday because of the holiday.
Speaker 2 (02:34:09):
Oh, I'm I'm gonna be an aust dude. Oh, this
is such a good song. I just wanted to see
what he's talking about. I like Phil Collins, turn it out?
Speaker 6 (02:34:24):
Where this is this song that your girls trying to
break up with you, but you play it for her
to say, Hey, we send a lot of good times together.

is going crazy right now. I'm investing. Now, which is
your favorite housewife? Oh oh, there's only one answer, Gabriella?
Speaker 2 (02:34:45):
LOOKI is too bad? Who Gabriella? Oh yeah, I have
even Longoria. Oh my gosh, I wasn't a fan of them.
Speaker 6 (02:34:54):
We got a type, Helen. Jonathan's got a type. I
got a type too, and I think Hen and I
are in the same type. Terry Hatcher's two, the Redheads three,
and then the other one is distant.
Speaker 2 (02:35:05):

Speaker 6 (02:35:06):
Yeah, yeah, Hey, are you gonna watch Dirty Dancing? This
weekend's gonna to watch? Are you gonna watch it tonight?
