Is The Matt Thomas Show with Ross zen a blockett
Age town A good morning and welcome to a Tuesday
condition of The Matt Thomas Show with Ross from Phoenix.
This is Sports Talk seven nineties and the Sun's.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Heroic Yeah, the Rockets getting together, No Tories, no Freddie Vian,
no Kevin Durant, and sports Harvy a.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Lot of Aaron Holliday for the second time in ten days.
Speaker 4 (00:41):
Got the best shooting holiday, according to Austin Rivers when
he interviewed him on Peacock, How was the Peacock other
broadcast is good?
Speaker 1 (00:56):
I thought when we.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Talked about this in the in the preseason, how they
were gonna have one guy on one bench and one
guy on the other bench. You know how nonverbal communication
is very important on any broadcast with your color men.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
I thought it was fine. I mean it's a.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Little off here and there, but overall pretty good. And
that dude, what's his name Grady something Grady.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Yeah, Michael Grady is the was a voice of the Wolf,
but he does some national stuff now.
Speaker 5 (01:22):
Yeah, I think he's pretty good.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
It was weird because the feed they gave me from
my broadcast spot was the Peacock feed obviously usually at
the Space City feed, and there're Steven Adams got his
legs wrapped up and like Austin Rivers is like within
two feet of the guy. I mean the access that
these analysts get with the headset literally right next to
the bench is you don't find it anywhere else, don't.
(01:49):
You don't get that, Simon. The reporters at football don't
get that as close.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
As those guys get.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Yeah, And one of the there was a moment where
Steven Adams said, are you live?
Speaker 4 (01:57):
Say hello to my mother? And Austin was like, uh,
Steven Adams wants me to shout his mother And I'm
not gonna say no.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Yeah, I was gonna say, I wonder if they if
Peacock and New Zealand. Sure, why not? It's a strange
network name. It just is.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
Why what's weird about it? Matt, It's a beautiful about
NBC Peacock. Let your feathers fly, baby.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
I mean, is there any what's if that's the weirdest
name for network? What's the second weirdest name?
Speaker 5 (02:27):
I don't think it's the weirdest.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
What is the weirdest? To b that's true? But is
that a network or is that a service? Uh?
Speaker 4 (02:35):
TB is a streaming service. Fubo is a streaming service too.
I mean, but tub Is is more of a streaming platform. Fubo, Well,
Fubo is in a dispute, you know what. I guess
I can say it for tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
They're in a.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Dispute with They're in a dispute with T and T
and NBC right now. Oh no, And I'm trying to
switch and then I'm on the phone with the a
AI expindited person for thirty minutes.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
The no, So, mad man, I didn't mean I apologize
to bring that up.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
I was actually having a pretty serene morning.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
I know, Okay, But I want you to think about this.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
If I think Peacock is the weirdest name for a channel,
if if I'm wrong, tell me what's the weirdest cable
channel that legitimate that's out there.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
It was Quibi, but they folded. Now it's too B,
which is owned by Fox.
Speaker 3 (03:21):
I believe it's like they're they're they're streaming service, and
I think everything on there's free.
Speaker 5 (03:26):
It's just got commercials.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Yeah, I watched the old game show channel. It's called
Buzzer that's buzz r oh b u zz.
Speaker 4 (03:34):
Are they take the e out apparently? Yeah, you take
the vowels out to make everything cooler.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Yes, today's kids, it's crazy, all right, that's Ross. I'm
matt here in Phoenix Rockets that came together last night
and knocked off the Suns.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
Dylan brooks Uh not overly happy with the officiating in
last night's game. We'll let you hear about that.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
He says the Rockets are flopper sports RB, not an
even a Doka team. No chance, no way, no a
right what shut yo, bob as up. I don't know
alprin Shangoon apron.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
He looks like the inflatable, a flailing arm dude in
front of the car dealership. Come on, I love Alpi Shangoon,
but let's be real.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
I love Alp Shangun. No, no, I will not bespirched
his great name. Let's be real. Come on now, I
don't know Ross.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
It feels like to me that's the European game, and
it's been that way for feen years now.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
I mean, it is what it is, It gets calls,
it works. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Yeah, so Dylan will in his cerebral way, we'll be
explaining Han happy he is.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
It's funny.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
He wasn't bringing this up when he was teammates with
with Alpera and Shangoon. But you don't have a problem
with it when it's on your team. No, that's all right,
all right, we got a lot to get to today.
We've got a busy show. We're gonna check you in
in Indianapolis coming up at the top of the hour.
Derek Schultz, our friend from indians But he's been our
He's been on as long as I think Roto has
been in one of our correspondences, isn't it maybe longer? Yeah,
(05:00):
But our buddy Derek Schultz, who covers a lot of
things that Indianapolis, is going to join us. He's I
think he's in the Locked on Colts Network, which you know,
Lockdown is Lockdown for life. You know, Gordy's a Lockdown og.
So we'll talk to him. We got gut fillings at
eleven thirty, the News at noon, e may A dok
is going to join us today. At one o'clock, we
have NFL rewind with Ross at one twenty, and at
one thirty, we have a Houston fighter by the name
(05:22):
of Joshua Van who is going to be in an
MMA about and he's representing our two community. And so
when we get like we get some guys together that
represent Houston, we.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Like to get him on the show. His nickname ROSSI
the Fearless. Hmmm. I like that.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
If you're going to be a cage fighter, being fearless
is probably a good quality to have.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
My nickname, Rossie.
Speaker 5 (05:45):
You don't know this, Oh no, totally in fear, the fearful.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
Oh yeah, fearful, scaredy cat, whatever you want to say.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
I'm afraid.
Speaker 5 (05:57):
I thought your nickname was mister mac and Cheese.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
So we had a conversation on the bus yesterday by
the mac and cheese.
Speaker 5 (06:06):
Now let's move on. You know what, I feel like
we're picking on you now at this point.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
No, no, no, no.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
First of all, it's it's Thanksgiving week, okay, so food
is going to be a huge conversation. Piece number two.
If I'm listening to the Matt Thomas Show, Ross and
I hear myself I'm yelling at the radio. Okay, I
absolutely am, but I can't change who I am Sports RV.
(06:33):
I could lie and say I love all these things, but.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
I just don't.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
And it's part of your charm, well or irritants whatever.
But wait, do you put ketchup on your Tomalley's by
the way, No, oh lord, we're gonna throw you out
of Texas.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
First of all, I don't like Tomali, so it's a
mood point.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Okay, But I'm seeing people talking about I've seen it
on at least two different tweets from two different people
putting and I needed to save them, and I apologize
when I'm doing so. People are putting ketchup on their Tomaly's.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Oh my god, that sounds.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
First of all, I'm not a Tomall like guy, but
I understand why they're popular. But you would put like
a gravy or a cheese or something. I don't think
ketchup was on the list. No, no, it's not good,
not good at all.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
All right, So what do you think the last night's game?
A Rockets won?
Speaker 3 (07:26):
No, Aaron Holly, we talked about a man Thompson was great.
It was a night where the Rockets got out to
an early lead and they tried a several different times
to come through. I out Dylan Brooks played really well
last night for them. Booker was just Booker? Who else
was really good. Ree Chepper was okay, and the starrying
lineup you had JD. Davison getting some minutes. I mean
(07:47):
it was literally And again I chose the song Come
Together because you kind of have to go sometimes deep
to that to that bench, and.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
That's exactly what Ima Adoka and the Rockets did last night.
Speaker 5 (07:57):
Yeah, I thought I was a good game.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
As you mentioned, Dylan bro was going off and you
could you could clearly tell that he wanted to try
and punish his old team. And you know, he had
some games like that for the Rockets last year where
he's like making every single turnaround jumper, he's being aggressive,
like his offensive game is really good. Came in averaging
twenty one points per As you mentioned Reed Sheppard a
(08:19):
bit of regression.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
He was due.
Speaker 4 (08:20):
He's been shooting like fifty three percent from three in
the last ten games or something like that, so that
was due.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
But I liked the team ball. I liked the men
Thompson and Alprin Shingoon. There was that one moment where
Jabarsmith Junior and men Thompson were working the ball back
and forth like playing together. As you said, come Together
was a perfect choice for the song and.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
It was great team ball. The athleticism of Amen Thompson.
I was saying this to absolutely nobody listening on k
TRH last.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
Night, Matt but on a in a league of like
the biggest freak athletes on the planet, Amen Thompson sets
himself apart, like the plays that he can make, these
little in out like mini euro step dribbles, did yeah
make the quickness? And actually on the Peacock broadcast, Austin
(09:08):
Rivers are talking about this like he knew he was athletic,
he knew he could jump, he knew he was fast,
but he didn't know until seeing him first hand how
quick he is. And he's six foot seven, Like he's
so quick. His zero to sixties, zero to thirty, zero
to ten is so good. He's so explosive and he's
just the control that he has over his body. And
(09:31):
I would say the same thing for alprn shin Gun
for how big he is. It was just on full
display last night and men Thompson put on a show.
And I'm gonna say this, you know a lot of
those guys on to go to the eurostep like James
would do that, he would have to go right to
the lane he's pulling up at the dotted circle, which
is about a seven foot jumper.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Those should be made, but easier said than done.
Speaker 5 (09:50):
And that's what he had on right, That's what he
has to do. That's what makes it that much more difficult.
Speaker 4 (09:53):
Everybody on the planet, on both teams knows that a
Men Thompson's not a great jump shooter.
Speaker 5 (09:57):
So what do they do.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
They they sat off of him, They back off, They
they play the drive. If they're playing the drive and
you're still able to drive, you're really good. And then
men Thompson's able to do that. This is my obligatory
and I knew this every time after I call a game. Please, Houston,
I love you. Please embrace this team. It's gonna be
(10:20):
a fun season. I cannot guarantee supremacy in the NBA.
I certainly cannot promise supremacy in the Western Conference because
I believe Oklahoma City is ever gonna lose again.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
But it's it's so much fun.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
And look, I have the great pleasure and I'm honored
in privileged to be at these games directly to see
this stuff going on. And I talked to the Phoenix
media or people that are fellow broadcasters like, God, y'all
are good. I'm like, and the number one thing like
I saw you know, can I name.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
Drop here for one quick show?
Speaker 5 (10:51):
Oh, here we go.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
I talked for about.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Ten minutes with Tom Thibodeau yesterday, the former Knicks Wolves
coach Chicago Bully coach, could not have been nicer. I mean,
I was like, are you sure this is really you?
Speaker 6 (11:04):
Are you?
Speaker 1 (11:04):
This is an AI version of you? And he's like,
y'all are really good.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
He says, the West is so filthy, but it's just y'all,
you know, think about it. Tonight last night was a
group of I mean, okay starters obviously, but.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
I know, I know that's all I'll have. People are
so og that I respect. I respect the hell out
of it.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
So the funniest thing was, we're talking about the game
last night and I told I told Dibbs and again
here comes another one of those things. You can and
play it as often as you can, I said. My
first year calling basketball, he was you were the coach
of the Wolves. And we put a crowd mic on
the court table for and I'm broadcasting for my broadcast
bot in Minneapolis, which is the top top bar of
the lower level and there is somebody just mfing everything.
(11:56):
And I said, we realized midway through the first quarter.
I said it was coach thibitdo just I mean? And
I told him, I said you. I said, I had
to turn your microphone off because you were just mf
and he laughed and apologized. He could have been nicer.
He's gonna get Ano their job again. He's a good coach.
You weird and very temperamental, but man, he can coach.
But he's he was there last night. He's like, y'all
(12:17):
are really good and it's gonna be fun to watch
how this thing plays out. The West is so filthy,
so please again, I would love to be able to
tell you this is a sixty win team that's going
to win the West. I would love to tell you
that I can take the minimum of Rockets play the Thunder.
It's gonna be in a very entertaining series. We saw
that in an opening night as a matter of fact,
against the Thunder.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
Just say a small prayer.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
Said that the fountain of Youth hits Kevin Durant, and
he scores thirty six points.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
A game in every one of those games against Thunder.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
If they play him in the playoff series because God
bless it, Ross just won't lose.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
The Thunder are feeling like, yeah, it's there. They're seventeen
and one and Jalen Williams still hasn't played. Yeah, seventeen
and one.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
Yes, I know, seventeen point point differential sixteen point nine.
They set the record last year with twelve point nine
or whatever.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
It's not it's not good.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
You know what, big picture by you play, you play
the games in front of you.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (13:21):
They didn't look like.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
They were overmatched by the Thunder in Game one, Sure didn't.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
We got a few more of them coming up this year,
all right, seven one, three, two, two five seven. And
if you want to chime in on the Rockets Cougars
last night, go to overtime to beat Syracuse in the
players players.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
Araon tournament for the big check. Congratulations them.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
No other college basketball needs to be mentioned.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
Oh, okay, that's fine, we can't. I'm not gonna do
that to you.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
It's fine whatever. I actually I know, well, I was up.
I was on air until midnight, by the way, and
I actually forgot the game was on when I went
home because I just went straight to bed, and then
I checked it this morning.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
And I was disappointed. I'm sorry? How sorry? Are you?
One to ten? Nine? Oh?
Speaker 5 (14:11):
You're such a lie?
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Why would I? Why? Why would I?
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Why we're a nine? Sorry? Bro, MAUI invitational loss. Well,
I think you need to recalibrate. Okay, four and a
nine is like my dog just died. Okay, two point three?
Back with more in a moment where the Matt Thomas
Show with Ross until two o'clock today here on Sports
Talk seven ninety twenty two. On the Tuesday edition of
(14:36):
the show, Rossell, you okay with our tornadoes back home?
Speaker 1 (14:39):
That was crazy yesterday.
Speaker 4 (14:40):
Huh yeah, I'm okay. I know some people who they're
okay too.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
But they went right by them as well, Like over there,
I believe it was like in this in the Spring area. Yeah,
it's crazy, man. I don't know what the heck's going
on there. Looked like there was some a lot of
tree damge, some house damage as well. I don't know
much more beyond that, but it is pretty wild stuff.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
I have never, thankfully been a part of it. Now.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
Look, we've all been around tornado warnings. We know friends
that have been around it, but everybody that they've ever talked
about that says they've been in and around a tornado
knows it's a sound that you'll never forget.
Speaker 1 (15:22):
Yeah, the train horn or something like that.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
The destruction and worrying about whether or not you're in
a safe space or not. I mean when we were kids,
we were like, you able to go hide in the
bathtub or hide in your closet.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
But I don't even know if that even makes a
difference anymore.
Speaker 4 (15:34):
This since you are so powerful, it's crazy and to me,
like tornado, it's hurricane. You can kind of prepare yourself
for earthquakes now, but still tornadoes just seemed terrifying.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
Man, Like, what do you even do?
Speaker 1 (15:46):
You know?
Speaker 7 (15:47):
I have a quick story at Western Kentucky there was
a dual tornado that rampasts to Bowling Green and my god,
all you could do because we were in apartments and dorms,
all you could do is just sleep and helpe. You
didn't get hit and thankfully went around campus, but the
entire he got destroyed.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
Yeah, this is over over one hundred homes destroyed in
northwest Harris County in the Clent area.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
An old coworker of mine at the University of Houston.
One of my old directors on the U of h
broadcast his parents' home just got demolished.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
And he put some photos up on Twitter. It's I
mean nothing. We do say we're very sorry and my goodness,
just our sympathies go out to anybody that has been
affected by that. But my gosh, it's crazy. It just
feels like to me. And again, maybe it's climate change.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
Maybe it's just our weather that's as warm as it
is right now that these bad boys kicking our ass
a lot more.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
Than they did when you know, yeah, I don't know it.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
Your tornadoes has been worse, but I don't know. Yeah,
all right, so hopefully it's weather okay, back home today.
You guys are gonna make it today, all right. Yeah,
there's supposed to be some rain, I think again, But
it was pleasant this morning, and it's supposed to get
chilly I think into the forties tonight or tomorrow night.
Oh you'll be good, good good knife for some chili, right, oh, yeah,
(17:03):
some watching chili. They got a great review from Jonathan.
You know, Jonathan made me feel good. I'm glad you
got me a good review. I'm serious that I'm not
even gonna chugaricoto. It was really good.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
Did you use sausage or ground beef or none of
the above.
Speaker 5 (17:18):
Huh, it's a secret. No, I'm just kidding.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
It was. Normally I make three meats.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
I do a stew, meat a you could call it
a filler meat, and then a sausage I used for
the stew, we used a venison backstrap my brother in
law had recently killed a deer.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
And then I used some.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
Just some chili chuck, a ground chuck. And then I
used some Italian hot sausage.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
Nice.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
Those are all great. I love Italian hot sausage. I
love deer meat. And you know who can go wrong
with some ground chuck? Yes, sir, you know Ross, Let
me shay. Folks can do more than just you know,
come on and babble about endless nonsense.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
He can give you some some good cooking tips.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
Yeah about making a chili truck. But that sounds really
hot in Houston. I think I should go that. Let
me take something that, gentlemen. I have sponsored Ross one
thing in life. It was a pookers But how about this?
Speaker 1 (18:21):
Why don't I sponsor you in a chili contest? Could
you win. I don't know.
Speaker 5 (18:25):
We'd have to talk to our chili competition guy.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
Great, that guy. Where is that guy?
Speaker 4 (18:29):
He's bringing in some samples? Yeah, I know he's the
international champ. Yeah, I don't think I can I can
measure up to that.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
Well, all I'm saying is he's gonna taste it, and
he'd be the real judge if he didn't like it.
You know it's done, but we need, like, we need
somebody to do a real taste test. I'm the people's champ, Matt,
you are the people's champ, all.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Right, real quick. We mentioned that Dylan Brook's not overly
happy with some of the officiating yesterday as the Rockets.
I mean, I thought the game was brilliantly called.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
I didn't see one air on either side for the
entire two and a half hour broadcast.
Speaker 5 (19:05):
It's okay. I mean Dalan Brooks flops around too.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
So I mean, oh he does. You had five fils,
but so did Jabari Smith at five. I mean there
were a lot of guys that felt trouble. So here
is the physical and that for the game. Talking about
how maybe the Rockets got a few calls their.
Speaker 8 (19:17):
Way down the play, but I've never seen so many
flops being rewarded on the other side, and honestly felt
like I was in a FEBA game, like playing basketball
and FEBA where you just get rewarded for flopping and
that killed every single run we had. Couldn't be physical,
(19:40):
but the Rockets were physical, grabbing, holding, and when we
try to do it, there was calls right away.
Speaker 4 (19:58):
Okay, that's just him, it's just him, him, it is
what it is. Yeah, the Rockets do. Al Brunschingen probably
the worst offender. But everybody flops around a little bit.
It's the NBA.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
It happens on both sides, and Dylan Brooks flops around to,
Devin Booker flops around to. But one thing he said
does kind of ring true is the Rockets force the referees.
Speaker 4 (20:26):
To relax a bit to where it kind of like
in football, where there's holding on every single play and
they're not gonna call it on every single play. The
Rockets do do a lot of clutching and grabbing and
pushing and shoving, and they're physical, and they set a
tone and they set a baseline to where there is
going to be a high level of physicality and the
referees aren't gonna call it. So, I mean, that's that's
(20:48):
not an accident, that's an email of Donka will tell you.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
They do that like they get physical. It's what they do.
It's their brand of basketball. Do you know why the
officials give the rockets breaks one because we deserve him
in two?
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Because I Mayadoka gives you the death there. You want
to run far away from that. That's true.
Speaker 3 (21:07):
I mean, if if you were gonna go, you know,
if you're gonna do what do they call it, fight club,
he'd be the first guy coach you take.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
Correct.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
Oh yeah, I wouldn't even be close. We're gonna take
JJ Reddick. Come on, man, you're not taking Steve Kerr. No,
Steve's carr is getting folded like a lawn chair, exactly.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
You're not taking JB. Bickerstaff. He's a lover, not a fighter.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
You know, he'd be be sneaky good. I think who
it's got some sneaky red ass. Eric Spolstra, I got
one for you. Here, give me a ruling on Jason Kidd.
Speaker 4 (21:43):
Oh, I think Jason Kidd would be a good one.
Is Chelsea billups on or off the board? He is
definitely off the board.
Speaker 1 (21:49):
He's he's at home, not available to media.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
He's out on bail, still paying up that five minutes.
He's out on bail, litter. That's so crazy to say
out loud. All right, we're gonna come back. We're gonna
play an audience. This is why the Matt Thomas Show
Ross is so beloved by so few. Ross sent a
SoundBite to me and our show group yesterday that I
sent to Jonathan and said, up, we need to play it. Yes,
(22:15):
it's an ald timer.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
It is an all timer featuring and I would think
Ross of the history of the Matt Thomas Show Ross,
we have played less than three Creighton pluybat play calls.
Speaker 5 (22:26):
It makes me laugh just thinking about it. I can't wait.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
All right, So the Creighton Blue Jays radio playbat play
announcer loses his mind. We'll hear it next under Matt
Thomas Show with Ross continues here on Sports Talk Simon.
I am here in Phoenix. After the Rockets beat the Suns.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
We leave later today to go to San Francisco to
take on the Warriors, and we'll have it for you
tomorrow and that will be then Thanksgiving.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
It's our final show. With a week tomorrow, so looking
forward to spending a lot of time with you guys to.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
And certainly today. If you want to join us, you
are more than welcome to do so. We are I
want to say, ross, Are we the only really showing
talent enjoys talking to people? Everybody else is just monologue radio?
Speaker 1 (23:10):
Right? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (23:11):
What a bunch of idiots and losers, hit idiots.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
We like y'all. We don't mind talking to you.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Yeah, yes, yes, why it's not love sometimes depending on
how some.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
We have some terrible takes, but generally speaking, we enjoy
visiting with you. So let's uh, let's do this. Let's
let me hear the audio. We got our buddy Gary
in spring is an early gut feeling. Now, can you
not wait till eleven thirty? I mean, isn't the rule
of gut feelings at eleven thirty? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (23:33):
But he told me that he got like something to
do at eleven he wanted to get out. You did, okay, okay,
So Gary hangout. He's got something to eleven. We'll get
his early gut feeling because he's an og listener. I
do want to play the audio. Creighton played Baylor yesterday Ross.
How much of the game did you see before this highlight?
Speaker 1 (23:48):
Zero? Me too. Yeah, it's it's not a top of
mind game, but they're two good teams creating the Big East.
Speaker 3 (23:56):
Obviously Baylor in the Big twelve. And there was a
controversial call made in that contest.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
I happen to see the video of it. There was a.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
Blocking foul that was called against Creighton, and the Creighton
announcer on the Blue Jays radio network not overly pleased
with what he saw once agad car.
Speaker 9 (24:22):
Into the pain list the dunk A fucking foul? Why
are you talking about?
Speaker 1 (24:30):
That was two seconds after the planned car driving. He's
outside the circle. He's outside the circle.
Speaker 9 (24:38):
And he's set. He was outside the circle and he
was set. Pratt Smith blew it. He was outside the
restricted area.
Speaker 1 (24:48):
He was straight up and down.
Speaker 9 (24:50):
He was set like the statue sitting.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
Out in front of New York, New York.
Speaker 9 (24:54):
And they called that craft an absolutely horsecrap call in
a game that's been played out like this, unbelievable fail
out call, fight and confident referee.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
And fall do lot. This was in Vegas, by the way,
I don't why.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
Oh my god, that's incredible. Okay, so I am going
to I'll have an opinion about this, okay, but I
want to give you two an opportunity first to say
what you want to.
Speaker 1 (25:33):
Say, uh huh about.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
The raw motions of the voice of the Blue Jays,
A creaton Blue Jays, by the way, better won the
game eighty one to seventy four with that call on.
First of all, did you see the call? What did
you think of the call? And then more important, what
did you think of the play by play call?
Speaker 4 (25:50):
Yeah, so it looks like it's a bad call. I mean,
it was barely a bump. The guy was standing his
ground outside the restricted area. It looks like that's a
pretty bad foul call. And he moved out of the
way too. Yeah, and like he barely touched. Like that's
bad call number one, number two.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (26:08):
I guess I am curious your opinion, Matt, if it's unprofessional,
if it's not becoming of a play by play man
to complain about the officials. But I was say, entertainment
ten out of ten, professionalism two out of ten.
Speaker 5 (26:27):
But this is a clear and obvious bad call.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
It was a.
Speaker 3 (26:32):
Terrible at worst case ross a non whistle. There was
not enough contact. Secondly, what made it worse was the
fact that whistle came, as the announcer said, came so late.
I'm just gonna tell you, I've been doing play by
play on the radio since nineteen ninety six. Okay, I've
(26:56):
never lost my mind that much in a call in
doing this for twenty nine years. Can you ever getting close?
What's what's the most you think you've lost it?
Speaker 1 (27:09):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (27:09):
I got one when when Kevin Durant both of his
feet were out of bounds, Yes, in Golden State and
you're on the call of Craig.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
That was incredible. I think we have that somewhere. Yeah,
because Craig didn't see it, but I did, and he's like, so,
I'm telling Craig what's going on.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
This is the This is when Durant was had. I mean,
did he have both feet out of bounds on the sideline?
I want to say.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
Both he was both feet were out of bounds by
like two to three feet, and he threw the ball
back in bounds and.
Speaker 5 (27:41):
Ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
That was the game.
Speaker 3 (27:43):
Where I was on the color for that game, And yeah,
I guess that was incredulous to that, but there was
no interpretation needed for that.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
That was cut and dry. How far his feet were
out of bounds?
Speaker 3 (27:56):
Because say what you will, fouls are still subject They
shouldn't be, but they are subjective. How much contact do
you allow? Is that the offensive player that initiates it
is a defensive player?
Speaker 1 (28:07):
Is it a no call? Those things can clearly happen.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
But I lost my mind in the most professional way,
like wait a minute, that he's out of bounds.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
There's no way of fans or buds. He's out of bounds.
In terms of subjectivity on a call. I don't remember
losing my mind like that.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
And here's the reality of it is that in twenty
twenty five, while I appreciate the energy, he had to
have known that his rant, it was about forty seconds,
it was gonna go viral, because anytime you do something
like that in today's world, you're gonna go viral. Someone's
gonna catch a piece of audio of that and play it.
(28:49):
So I don't know if that's his stick in general,
or he just was really upset, or he knew the
moment was gonna be opportuary for him to.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
Say what he wanted to say.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
I just know that if I took every one of
the bad calls that I see when I call NBA games.
Ross and had that kind of energy every time I'd
have no voice and probably would die on the air.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
It was great stuff, though it was a bad call.
Speaker 3 (29:13):
I thought he was gonna say horse Bleap too, Yeah,
said horse Craft.
Speaker 10 (29:16):
He won.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
He was awfully close. I'll say this.
Speaker 3 (29:19):
I probably probably would have been on his same level.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
If it would have decided the game.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
Mm hmmm. But it did not do so, I think
what was the score at the time, Like I told you,
they won eighty one seventy four and let's see.
Speaker 5 (29:34):
Seventy two to sixty six.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
So there was still quite a bit of basketball left
two minutes?
Speaker 3 (29:39):
Yeah, yeah, but yeah, two possession game with two minutes. Yeah,
it is what I mean. Look, I don't know if
if that's who he is, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
You know, we had not heard of him before, right, Well,
how many home all Hall announcers have you heard of
it in your life? Zero? Now you got one. I
didn't know what's the guy's name? We would know just
playing leagus.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
He goes by Larry, he goes by one name like Michael, Michael.
Let me let me see if I can figure prince.
I don't think the Creighton Blue Jays announcer is a
single name person. I mean, if he is, he must
be that popular.
Speaker 1 (30:17):
I didn't know. Let's see here, Cranton. I'm googling. This
is great radio. Cranton Blue Jays radio announcer. Let's take
a look. As he was got a name. One of
the comments says, is this Gilbert god Freed. That's funny.
Let's see here. John Bishop is his name.
Speaker 3 (30:36):
And the bald don't lie is like the coup de gras.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
That's Jonathan. Need a ruling on that. Can old white
men say bal don't lie? Or is out of bounds?
Speaker 3 (30:46):
No, that's a that's a basketball thing. Bottle doesn't lie?
You say that. I was in an all game barsad
Orlando bottle lie. You know what I did for the
first time yesterday, I think in probably five or six years,
I said, bang, that's a Mike brain thing.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
Oh you stole a bang. I didn't mean to. It
just clicked out.
Speaker 3 (31:01):
That's fine. It's supposed to be natural, visceral. That's what
the great play by play men do. I don't never
force it down, Yeah, I don't. I don't force it
by the way you of h stole my nothing but
nylon you see on their tweet.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
I had to call him out on a bit steal.
Speaker 5 (31:15):
That's been you since like the seventies.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
Right, as far as I'm concerned, I'm the one that
created it. Ten four The Mount Thomas Show with Ross
We're gonna go to Indianapolis. At the top of the hour,
we'll talk to Gary and Spring because Gary is an
OG and he has an early gut feeling. We must
get that in. It's ten forty four of The Mount
Thomas Show with Ross. Here from Phoenix on Sports Talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
Rossie, I'm a twenty ounces into my first twenty four
ounce coffee. I'm gonna take a break at some point
during the show to get a refill because it is free.
I have free to relative is eight dollars in the coffee,
so I've had more coffee in his trip. Oh my god,
I am so wired now.
Speaker 5 (31:52):
Rossie, Oh lordy, get your tolerance up. You need to
be careful.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
I'm serious. Started a battle pattern. Yeah, it's I've been trying.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
That's why I don't drink any more rice tea because
I feel like I drink so much coffee now that
I have to balance it out with the water.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
First world problems. All right, Matt and.
Speaker 3 (32:11):
Ross with you here, We're we go to Indianapolis. At
the top of the hour. Let's talk to Gary in
Spring who hates the wave on seven.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
I think Gary, good morning to you.
Speaker 6 (32:19):
Hey, good morning guys. Great show as usual. Man, that
was kind of a blast from the past when they
had what's the guy used to play for us in
the game last night was grind Fowl.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
Dylan bok b Yeah, I.
Speaker 6 (32:32):
Heard him on that take y'all had there, and uh,
the big old bully was just a whining and a crime.
But I miss him. I love watching him be the
bully on our team. I miss him and he was
a great defensive player. Anyway, I was calling about when
I called in last week. Just remind you from last week.
(32:53):
I called in on shut your bum ass up, and
there was that one guy, I think his name was Mark.
He was calling in just drag and the Texas through
the dirt the next three games, zero and three, and
I called him a dB and you didn't really care
for that. But anyway, so prus in the pudding from
what he was saying, that's what he is. But I
just wanted to toot my own horn there. I commented
(33:16):
on that take there that the Texans were going to
win that game twenty three to nineteen, and lo and behold,
guess what they wanted twenty three to nineteen. So just
a little two do on mon Hound.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
You know, Lo?
Speaker 3 (33:27):
You know that, Gary, that Brian McTaggart, the astros reporter
for MLB dot com, heard you. He texted me on
Sunday and said, I heard a caller to your show
say twenty three to nineteen.
Speaker 1 (33:39):
So Gary, your words were heard by a respected reporter
in the market.
Speaker 6 (33:43):
Oh beautiful, beautiful, But I do have a premonition. It's
too early for my premonition is and you may not
like this one either, but turn about. It's fair play.
You know what's good for the goose, good for the gander.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
The one of the.
Speaker 6 (33:57):
Starting players on the Oklahoma City Thunder within the next
thirty days will they will go down with a serious
injury to bring them back to the pack. So that's
just what the failing that I have going forward in
the future. So hopefully that one doesn't hurt your feelings
as much as when I called Marca a dB But
(34:17):
you called it going to call and tell you guys,
great show and thanks for everything.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
All right, thank you Gary.
Speaker 5 (34:23):
One of their starters is down. They're seventeen and one.
Speaker 3 (34:26):
By the way, I think it's Ray that he was
talking about in that march.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
Oh yeah, yeah, it was Ray. Ray Miami raised, Miami
great listening show.
Speaker 3 (34:32):
But he was I think he was yesterday when Ray called,
he was much more positive towards the Texas.
Speaker 1 (34:36):
I think you said they're only to lose two more
times before the end of the year.
Speaker 5 (34:38):
What was he all upset about. I can't remember. Last week.
Speaker 7 (34:43):
I think it's how poorly they played against the Titans
and Bailly one.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
I'm not too sure.
Speaker 5 (34:48):
Something about was he talking about c J Stroud or
something too.
Speaker 3 (34:51):
Yeah, there's some CJ Stroud hate. But I'm thinking about
muting c J Stroud and muting the words Davis Mills,
do you think that's the right.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
Thing to do. Yeah, you can do it.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
You can also put a time to mute. You can
mute it for like a week. I mean, look, I
just think for my mental health, I need CJ to
third for three hundred and fifteen yards just when it
gets the cults.
Speaker 1 (35:12):
Well, you're gonna do it. I don't know, But.
Speaker 3 (35:15):
I don't know if I want to live in a world,
Ross where we're having talking about whether or not who's
the quarterback, it doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (35:20):
CJ.
Speaker 5 (35:20):
Stroud is the better quarterback.
Speaker 1 (35:24):
You don't even have to speak it into existence.
Speaker 5 (35:26):
That's the truth, the truth.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
Mm hmmm, that's crazy. Okay, So there you go. Uh yeah,
so Gary in spring literally got the game score right.
And that's why tomorrow when I make my prediction, I'm
going to give you some obnoxiously weird score. I like that,
Like I'm gonna go like seventeen to eleven.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
Or something crazy, like okay, well maybe eleven's a little
crazy little score.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
Got me there, all right?
Speaker 3 (35:54):
Seven one three two one two five seven nine. If
you want to join the conversation, seven to one to three,
two one two five seven ninety real quick, ROSSI uh.
TV analysts of sports you know, writers and whatnot are
predicting at least fifty million people to watch the Chiefs
Cowboys game on Thanksgiving. It would make it the most
(36:16):
watched regular season game in the history of the NFL. Really,
fifty million, which I'm curious for a six and five team,
and what are they five and four and one or
whatever the Cowboys are. I'm just I would think for
two reasons, well three reasons. One it's the only game
on at that time.
Speaker 1 (36:34):
Two of the Dallas Cowboys have this hillaciously big following,
which we don't understand. And three the Chiefs have a
huge following. And my guess is would there be a
shot of seeing Taylor at the game because it is Thanksgiving?
Speaker 3 (36:46):
Oh, Taylor Swift? Yeah, you get that angle in there.
But if you're Taylor Swift and you want to have
Thanksgiving with your fiance, you just wait for him to
come back at you don't. You're not gonna have Thanksgiving
dinner with him before the game.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
You're gonna you can have it when you get back
to Kansas City.
Speaker 2 (37:05):
MM.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
But you get any No.
Speaker 3 (37:08):
She interesting to me that there are several because I
do follow a handful of sports media writers this. They're
talking about this being the most watch game in the
history of the regular season.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
Now I don't even know what is the most watch game.
I guess I could do a.
Speaker 3 (37:22):
Search, probably involve the Cowboys, but Kansas City doesn't. I mean,
the cashape for Kansas City is incredible, I get it.
But isn't it more about the Cowboys and more about
the only game on at three o'clock on a Thursday
afternoon on Thanksgiving Day to anything else. I mean three
o'clock on Thanksgiving. That's that's like prime time win, right
(37:44):
They booking just wins, try to get a playoff. It
is it must win game for the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (37:50):
It really is for them, not for the Chiefs, but
it's for the Cowboys for sure. So Mike, what my
guess is, Look the Eagles.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
I mean, the Cowboys have played the Eagles before and
thanks even they have played the Giants on Thanksgiving, they've
played Curse. I mean, it's not because Kansas City's bringing
the strawts, because I think the game is right.
Speaker 5 (38:08):
The city is part of it. Yeah, of course they are.
Speaker 3 (38:11):
Yeah, Kelsey and whatnot. So by the way, Rono's going
to join us tomorrow at one o'clock.
Speaker 4 (38:18):
Most watched is twenty twenty two Cowboys and Giants. Also,
they've changed the Nielsen rate. It probably is going to
be the most watched because haven't they changed the Nielsen rating.
They're counting more streaming and stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (38:29):
Yeah, they're cu Yeah, because Peter plus those gut feeling,
I'm gonna lock it in most watched game ever in
a regular season.
Speaker 1 (38:37):
Are we supposed to be like applauding in if? I
mean it's cool, it's good for them. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (38:43):
By the way, also Roger Goodell saying they're gonna probably
add some more international games. I'm telling you, Rossie, I
made a gut feeling about two years ago that I
think everybody's gonna have to play one international game.
Speaker 5 (38:51):
And then you wanted to back off that you you
wanted to back off that you back on it.
Speaker 1 (38:56):
I'm back on because I think it does make sense.
Speaker 3 (39:02):
You're playing a seventeen game schedule, at least for now,
you could have eight home, eight road, and one international game.
Speaker 5 (39:07):
Yes, it's ridiculous, but whatever.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
I always thought it made sense to have one neutral
site game, like put it at a college stadium or
something like. You know, you can put the Cowboys against
the I don't know, the Saints and put it in Austin.
Speaker 1 (39:21):
I think that'd be really cool. But they don't care.
Relly care about the markets.
Speaker 3 (39:25):
They want they want to go to Amsterdam, they want
to go to you know, Sydney, they want to go
you know, they want to try. They want the NFL
game to travel the world because people do watch those games,
and you do create a new fan base, and you
do have an opportunity to sell more gear in those Yeah, you.
Speaker 4 (39:39):
Want to expand you want to expand your reach. What
you've they've already dominated, They've already won America. So now
you why not go ahead and win the world? Yep,
Jay and Ray, you can call them agit, I forget it. Uh,
those two gentlemen will get to you. Coming up in
a few minutes.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
Old friend Derek Schultz from Indianapolis, he's the lockdown culture porter,
long time in front of the show, joins us next
year at ten fifty eight on Sports Talk seven ninety
is the.
Speaker 1 (40:01):
Matt Thomas Show with Ross eleven O two. Sports Talk
seven and eight is the Matt Thomas Show. We Ross
were coming to you today from Phoenix, Arizona with the
Rockets beat the Suns last night in the city of
San Francisco. Tomorrow to play the Golden State Warriors.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
But now we're gonna spend some time talking about the
football scene, and we'll do that with our friend, longtime
front of the show, Derek Schultz. Nine at Schultz nine
seven five. He is with Locked on Colts, He's Golden
Black com He's life at Purdue.
Speaker 1 (40:34):
I mean, how many jobs? I mean I ask you
this every year. Are you up in like nine jobs now?
Derek Schultz?
Speaker 11 (40:39):
Yeah, it's probably too much. I have an eight year
old son, which would be I guess, the biggest shob
of all right, But yeah, it's it's getting up there.
I think I'm reaching my approaching my band with maximum
for sure.
Speaker 1 (40:52):
Really quick thirty seconds on this, you go from the
Indiana Pacers winning the Eastern Conference with team that might
lose sixty games in one year. How brutal is that
for a transition.
Speaker 12 (41:03):
It's brutal.
Speaker 11 (41:04):
But the hope is is that you know they're the
ninety seven Spurs all over again, right and then everything
gets back to normal right away. But yeah, it's they've
lost all the momentum and buzz and it's stakes. It's
stakes to the fan base, and the cults are pretty
good again, so it's it's been a tough slot to
the Pacers, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (41:18):
All right, Derek, tell me about the Colts.
Speaker 3 (41:21):
I don't think anybody anticipated them being off to the
start they are, and look they have been on top
of the AFC South or about since the start.
Speaker 1 (41:28):
What did you think about this team going in And
I'm going to assume that.
Speaker 3 (41:32):
You are beyond related on how they've turned out so
far with a handful of weeks left to go in
the season.
Speaker 11 (41:38):
Yeah, I think I thought what most people saw. Okay,
here we go. Here's another team that is not devoid
of talent, but they've got enough talent to go a
nine to nine and eight and not matter for the
tenth straight year eleven straight year. However long it's been,
they haven't won this division since twenty fourteen. They've won
one playoff game over that span, and they've largely been
stuck in the NFL's purgatory. You know, the old saying
(42:00):
is be good or be bad, just don't be ordinary,
and the Colts have been really ordinary over the last
couple of years. So, you know, for them to jump
out to a seven to one and eight and two
start was a very nice surprise around these parts. And
you know, they're still in good position now, even struggling
a little bit over the past three weeks. But you
know the fact that Matty, they were the most efficient
(42:21):
offense in the NFL this entire century through the first
eight games. If you're asking me if I had any
idea that they would be better on offense in the
two thousand and seven Patriots, albeit over an eight week stretch,
I would have leapt out of the room. So yeah,
I mean, this is this success so far, for the
most part, has come out of nowhere. But then you
kind of look at it, and you know, Jonathan Taylor's
been a good player for a long time. The Forrest
(42:42):
Buckner has been a good player for a long time.
It's a lot of the same names and faces. It's just,
you know, Daniel Jones really stabilized a quarterback position that
had been grossly unstable over the last decade or so,
to say the least.
Speaker 3 (42:55):
We have seen a fair amount of the Colts so
far this year, and obviously a lot of folks saw
the game against the Chiefs Sunday. Daniel has been excellent.
I wouldn't give him a ten, but I'd give him
an eight out of ten. And I think going in
people thought Daniel Jones was just trying to hold onto
his NFL crew by signing a deal with the Colts.
Speaker 11 (43:14):
Yeah, I think out of ten eight, I'm sorry about
my job. Let me to us somewhere else.
Speaker 13 (43:19):
I think a.
Speaker 11 (43:21):
Lot of Amazon deliveries here TODs the season, right. I
think that there had been a lot of you know,
when when you look at Jones and playing in New York,
there was a lot of a special you know, the
section of his game, and you wondered how much was
the player and how much was actually the organization. And
I think it turns out that probably a lot of
(43:43):
it was just the fact that the Giants are one
of the worst run organizations in American pro sports. But yeah,
Jones being a solid B has been better than what
the Colts have had because, frankly, you know, Anthony Richardson
has been a D or an S and you know,
to upgrade a couple of let grades the way that
he has. Again, it's about stability. It's it's not even
(44:03):
really about raising the ceiling, which is all that we
talked about in this town of Richardson.
Speaker 14 (44:07):
Oh just wait, he's gonna hit and.
Speaker 11 (44:09):
Man is that whatism? And watch after his ceiling? Well,
the problem is is that the floor was so far
down that you know, you couldn't even see it. And
with Jones at the very least you knew that the
floor was solid, your footing was going to be solid.
And and he's been even more than that. I mean,
at times he has looked like a you know, a
(44:32):
Pro Bowl level I guess player. Now that hasn't happened
in the last three weeks. But when you just look
at his numbers and the efficiency and the way that
he's commanded the pocket, he's been all the things that
he was not in New York. Even in twenty twenty two.
He never played to this level through the first ten
games here that he has in Indianapolis.
Speaker 3 (44:51):
Derek Schultz locked on colts with us here on the
Matt Thomas Show at eleven six. All right, so you
mentioned the last three weeks comfort behind win against the
fount Flkins of Berlin, the home of the road laws
at the Steelers, and then a road loss at Kansas City.
Speaker 1 (45:05):
Are are there chinks in the armor?
Speaker 15 (45:08):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (45:09):
The moment is too big? It's not Daniel Jones fault exclusively.
Speaker 3 (45:12):
And the one thing that I noticed in granted, and
I watched the game on Sunday on the red zones,
I was only catching the the parts of the game.
It felt like that Jonathan Taylor could have been used
a lot more in the second half against Kansas City
to keep the Chiefs off the field.
Speaker 11 (45:28):
Are you suggesting that Jonathan Taylor should have carried the
ball more than once in the fourth quarter? Matt, Is
that what you're is that what you're saying?
Speaker 1 (45:34):
A football god? But I'm gonna go to kind of
go with that if it's okay with.
Speaker 11 (45:39):
You, I mean, come on, yeah, you go. Yeah, You're
one hundred and fifty percent right. And that's been the
main takeaway from this game, you know, as we've been
kind of looking back on Sunday on Monday Tuesday and
sports socc radio circles and podcasts and all that has
been the fact that they just they ignored the best
player that they have. And that's what Taylor looks. You know,
(46:00):
he's stug decided, and he's a Hall of Fame coordinator.
He's done an unbelievable job. He decided that he was
going to die before he would let Jonathan Taylor beat them.
And that's fine. We've seen teams do that and stack
the box and all that, but even running into a
brick wall when you've got an eleven point lead in
the fourth quarter, the utility of running the ball means
that you're also eating clocks. So even if you're not
(46:20):
necessarily gaining yards in big chunks, you can at least
take some time off the clock and not give Patrick
Mahomes more chances, more bites at the apple, if you will.
So it's you know, I think Shane Ssyker is a
gifted offensive mind. He's done a wonderful job scheming up
this team and there's a reason why they were the
most efficient offense in the twenty first century through the
first eight games. A lot of that had to do
with Spike and his smarts. But I do think that
(46:42):
just like all NFL coaches, he thinks himself sometimes, and
I think the outthought himself a lot on Sunday. But
ball absolutely should have been in Jonathan Taylor's hands more,
and the coach went three and out four straight drives,
and that allowed the Chiefs to sneak back into the
game and eventually, you know, kind of stayed their season
by winning that game in overtime.
Speaker 1 (47:00):
I'm presuming that the Cults are preparing for CJ. Stroud.
Speaker 3 (47:03):
We certainly are, and again he's got a clear concussion protocol.
We think we would have he would have done so
if the Texans Bills game was on Sundays compared to Thursday.
Speaker 1 (47:11):
With that being said, describe.
Speaker 3 (47:12):
To the audience back here your general thoughts about the
pass rush that the Colts have provided their team so
far this year.
Speaker 11 (47:21):
Can I can I give you a phrase for the
Colts pass rush, because I'm afraid that pops into my
mind and it's.
Speaker 1 (47:30):
It's fine.
Speaker 15 (47:33):
You know, it's not bad.
Speaker 11 (47:34):
It's certainly not good. I'll give you some optimism, well,
I guess not optimism that you're in Houston, but optimism
for folks here in Indianapolis is that Leasu Latu has
six sacks around five stacks in his last six games,
which I know doesn't sound like much, but that's a
big step forward for a guy that they used the
first round pick on two years ago and who they
really wanted to pop this year. He's really starting to
(47:56):
show some signs and he's not only pressuring the quarterback
where he's getting home twenty cases. The guy he's the
first round guy that they took on a Michigan a
couple of years ago, who's a perfectly adequate NFL player,
but not a guy who's going to keep anybody up
at night. And they have filled out their depth and
injury wise, they got sent they're gonna get sense and
the comback. You know, Taekwon Lewis might come back as well,
(48:16):
so they have some veteran depth as well. But I
think overall, I mean, if you're grading all of the
pass rushes in the NFL, the Colts would probably be
somewhere squarely in the middle. That said, which our various
award and now saw S Gardner, they're they're much more
apt to be successful in the defensive secondary. And I
think with better coverage there's a chance that that pass
(48:39):
rush numbers wise does a little bit better than it
has through the first half. Through the halfway point.
Speaker 1 (48:44):
Of the season, all right, for I let you run.
So how does things play out?
Speaker 3 (48:48):
I wouldn't say it's a pivotal game, more so for
the Texans than it would be for the Colts. Indian
Apple still holds onto a one game lead. I'm not
sold on Jacksonville. Don't know how you feel about him, Derek,
But if I'm a Colts fan, I'm not worried. For
that matter, the Texan shouldn't be worried. But how do
you see this thing playing now, I like to get
to the crystal ball for you.
Speaker 11 (49:06):
I agree with you on Jacksonville. I like these conversations
because we're in the trust trees, so we can just
both talk about the Jaguars behind their back whenever we
get together like this. Look, I think it's I understand
from a standing standpoint, you're right, it's not a critical
game for the Colts, but in a way it is.
You know, they've lost two of three. They have a
murderous finishing stretch here where they have Houston twice, Jacksonville twice,
(49:26):
a good San Francisco team, and then they have to
go at Seattle. So all their layoffs are done. There's
no Raiders, there's no Dolphins, there's no Titans game that's
coming to save the Colts. They're done with all of that.
So they really have to protect their home fields and
win a division home game if they're going to want
to hold on here. So I do think it's a
big game for the Colts, and this is what I
always do with this matchup. I lean towards the home team.
(49:48):
Colts are unbeating at home. Their offense has been much
much better at home than on the road, albeit against
some of those same teams. I just talked about Raiders, Dolphins, Titans,
teams like that. But I do think the Colts find
a way to get it done at home. But I'd
belignes to you if I said that people in Indian
Matt weren't weren't sweating right now. They are sweating big time,
and they're sweating Houston much more than they're sweating Jacksonville.
Speaker 1 (50:10):
That is for sure.
Speaker 3 (50:11):
Happy holidays you, the family and the dog, and we
will talk in probably closer to the final week of
the season. I hope for both sides it means something, honestly,
because those you know, those Week eighteen games that you
bring in stubs, you're like, nobody cares about this game.
So hopefully it'll mean something. Thank you for the time, friend,
as always, takes fat, Take care all right. Derek Schultz
locked on Colts with us here on the Matt Thomas
(50:32):
Show with Ross to take a short time out, we'll
go back to the phones. We have gut feelings coming
up at the bottom of the hour, and the gut
feelings are this, you want to make a sports prediction
like Gary did earlier.
Speaker 1 (50:42):
Did you catch it? He called the show last week.
Speaker 3 (50:44):
And predicted twenty three to nineteen Texans beat the Bills.
He literally got the score correct.
Speaker 1 (50:52):
If you want to brag about your gut feelings, you
know where to find his bottom of the hour seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven two
one two five seven. Rossy may have held the curtain back.
Does it matter what I say? I don't know. I
almost took some nighttime medicine. That would have been terrible.
Speaker 3 (51:14):
Oh yeah, let's get you hopped up on caffeine and
on that.
Speaker 1 (51:19):
We're wrong with me? Geez happy, thanks very much, time
he got It's only a four hour show. Hey, hey,
thanks again to Derek Schultz.
Speaker 3 (51:28):
We used to having me on Debbie Andy, but now
he's locked Don Colts. Mm hmmmm, how are we feeling?
Speaker 1 (51:43):
I'm making no prediction, by the way, I've decided.
Speaker 3 (51:45):
Oh are you serious?
Speaker 1 (51:46):
Yeah? Because I always get him wrong? Why why don't
for me? Anyway?
Speaker 3 (51:49):
Because I want to know your opinion, and then, especially
when you get it wrong, I want to crush you
on Monday. Well then okay, that that's that's part of
a repertoire and I respect so I will all right,
I'll make a prediction.
Speaker 5 (52:02):
Okay, good, we're off tomorrow. This is a short week.
Speaker 1 (52:06):
Tomorrow's our last name. Oh what a beautiful time to
be alive.
Speaker 3 (52:09):
And then it's Thanksgiving and then I'm going Austin to
watch the Longhorn beat down the Aggies. By the way,
I'm trying to get a ut guy on the show.
I try to reach out to Fozzy Whittaker. No response. Really, yeah,
he's busy doing what your name is, Fozzy?
Speaker 1 (52:24):
You can't be that busy.
Speaker 3 (52:25):
Whoa fosh wit? He's an adult calling himself Fozzy, So
what's wrong with that? I think it's awesome as a
human being calling yourself Pooky. That's okay to name an
adult Pooky. Pooky Wilson. Oh really, what do you do all?
I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Major League Baseball player Mookie Come on, Ross,
(52:52):
Pooky bets place for the Dodgers, Pookie Blaylock.
Speaker 1 (53:00):
You done?
Speaker 3 (53:01):
I think I think I'm out of mookies. Come on,
I mean, come on, that isn't an ordan amount of mookies.
Speaker 1 (53:07):
You did well, I mean you put that together. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (53:09):
So I sent a very nice message to Fozzy on Sunday.
Now again, I did it through Twitter.
Speaker 1 (53:14):
So I don't know. You know, I'm trying to think
of you. I'm looking to see the last time he
checked his Twitter account. Yeah, one day I said it
to him on You know, I'm not I'm not happy
with this. Probably you get you get flooded.
Speaker 3 (53:26):
I got like a thousand people in my DMS from
China telling me that I look beautiful, and I need
to respond to them. It's hard to check dms on
this stupid god forsaken sight. I miss stuff from people.
Speaker 1 (53:38):
All the time. Then I sent out an email to
anwar Richardson. Is that naming a bell to you?
Speaker 5 (53:44):
Of course? He was orange bloods right.
Speaker 1 (53:46):
Yeah, so I'm trying to get something.
Speaker 3 (53:48):
I was gonna try it brown number, but I figured
you'd be rude to that person, so I wouldn't be rude.
Speaker 1 (53:53):
Are you sure why? Because you're a Longhorn fan, you're
not supposed to be polite.
Speaker 5 (53:58):
Of course you can be cool, Rjeel.
Speaker 1 (54:02):
I mean, I'd like to.
Speaker 3 (54:03):
Get somebody on tomorrow that wouldn't have a dog in
the fight, who would be a college football person.
Speaker 1 (54:08):
Chris Gordy had Sam Connan before. No, Gordy doesn't want
a CC.
Speaker 3 (54:13):
He's the perfect He's a perfect guest. He hates the
aggies and the long horns, that is true.
Speaker 1 (54:18):
He's equally hating both of them. That's actually fair.
Speaker 3 (54:24):
So my attempt to get a preview of the game
have gone unsuccessful, and I'm kind of disappointed in myself, and.
Speaker 1 (54:29):
I'm trying.
Speaker 3 (54:34):
Hook him horns and get Vince Young on the show.
He'll be three hours late, don't I know that? He
might have been late to the to the Jbar and
Barbecue watch party?
Speaker 1 (54:48):
Was there one this weekend?
Speaker 5 (54:49):
It was a couple of weekends ago, but he was
late zero surprise. He was very nice.
Speaker 3 (54:55):
He hung out. He took pictures of my brother and
my mother as well.
Speaker 1 (54:59):
Oh they win. Yeah, I was there.
Speaker 3 (55:02):
You went, I support our sponsors jbar and Barbecue, shout
out to them.
Speaker 1 (55:10):
So you went and said, I'll have a two, I'll
have a two meat plate, and I want to picture
with Vince. Uh.
Speaker 5 (55:16):
We crushed like a giant tray of barbecue.
Speaker 1 (55:21):
Hmmm. It was good.
Speaker 3 (55:24):
Well, I can't even remember what game with that was for?
Was that the Mississippi State No? Was the Kentucky game?
Oh that was a nail bighter too.
Speaker 5 (55:32):
It was overtime nail bighterikes.
Speaker 3 (55:35):
All right, let's uh oh we got now. Gary took
a shot at Ray. Now Ray wants a respond to violence.
It's actually a great bit. I love this Ray, thank
you for holding in. Good morning to you. What up?
Speaker 16 (55:51):
First of all, Gary, you're interrupting me. I'm trying to
get off this dock and do it jet Skis and
Biscayne Bay. I'm gonna send you a tweet. I'm gonna
tweat you tonight, madam on jeske this game.
Speaker 1 (56:03):
Okay.
Speaker 16 (56:04):
We can't have in house fighting as Texans fans. Gary,
you sound like you two hundred and thirty years old.
Now I know you like an old vampire. We can
have in house fighting when you start buying my merchandise,
when you start paying for any Texas gear I get,
then you will be able to tell me how to
talk about the Texans. And I've been listening to Matt
(56:27):
Thomasin's twenty eleven. It's a call a driven show and
I really love it. You can't call in as a
bully and try to bully me into saying good things
about the team if I'm upset about them. You're old man, Gary,
you should understand what I'm saying, and there's no need
to try to call in, So you can only call
in once a day, so I'll hear you tomorrow and
(56:48):
I know you're listening.
Speaker 1 (56:50):
Let's end this right now. I don't like AM radio
beef and all that.
Speaker 16 (56:54):
With fellow Texans fans. We should just hold hands and
hope they make the playoffs and stop called stop sitting
on hold calling.
Speaker 1 (57:02):
In about me.
Speaker 16 (57:03):
That's a waste of time. Gary call in to have
a hot take about a sports team, not me. I'm
about to hop on the jet skis.
Speaker 1 (57:13):
Letter you know what?
Speaker 15 (57:17):
You know what?
Speaker 1 (57:17):
Right?
Speaker 15 (57:18):
You know what?
Speaker 2 (57:19):
Right?
Speaker 15 (57:22):
What?
Speaker 7 (57:24):
That was some that was some bother of stuff. I'm
not gonna lie opecently that picture. I want to see
the picture.
Speaker 3 (57:29):
Not only is he calling out Gary, it's like, I'm
about to go on my jet ski What are you
gonna be What are you gonna be doing?
Speaker 1 (57:36):
Gary?
Speaker 3 (57:38):
Call your bands that That's what he told him. He
called him two hundred and fifty years old too, which
is what would be the all time record for most
old of the oldest person in the world.
Speaker 1 (57:47):
Think, so, yeah, can you get to one hundred and ten?
Is that a possibility.
Speaker 3 (57:52):
I'm assuming somebody's probably right now, there's one hundred and
ten people. Yeah, they're like a couple of them. Oldest
person living right now now is Ethel Caterham. She's one
hundred and sixteen and that's just the recorded ones.
Speaker 1 (58:09):
Zero surprise. Her name is Ethel.
Speaker 5 (58:10):
By the way, hell oh, I'm Ethyl Catherine.
Speaker 1 (58:16):
Who was the last person born in America named Ethel?
Speaker 3 (58:22):
I want to a girl, Well, this woman is in
the UK. I had an affair with Winston Churchill. I
had a girl in high school named Ethyl. See there
you go, Ethlen?
Speaker 1 (58:31):
You really? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (58:33):
I had ethel elso was another one was really old?
Speaker 5 (58:36):
Is that short for ethelene?
Speaker 1 (58:39):
Is that additive you put in your car? Ethylene?
Speaker 3 (58:42):
Look at this guy?
Speaker 1 (58:45):
Are you sure you went to school with a girl
named ethics?
Speaker 3 (58:48):
I'm almost positive?
Speaker 1 (58:49):
Yeah, what do you mean you almost positive? I'm pretty
sure I did. I had a one class, But you're
not one hundred percent sure.
Speaker 5 (58:58):
I know it was old either old. It was like Charlotte.
Speaker 1 (59:04):
That's a question.
Speaker 3 (59:04):
There is there a woman alive today at the age
of twenty five years? Yes, old, name Ethel?
Speaker 6 (59:10):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (59:11):
Is she embarrassed by it?
Speaker 3 (59:12):
She shouldn't be. It's not who cares it care. If
you had a terrible name, you'd be upset about it. Well,
I'll fixated on people's names themselves. You wouldn't be pleased
with That's fine. My name is it's a name. Yeah,
it's a it's probably a family name. It's probably in
honor of some wonderful, loving grandmother of hers.
Speaker 1 (59:34):
Eh, move on, grandma died eighty years ago. She's fine.
You would not want to be called a variety of
names like, uh, what I mean? What did I say before?
Speaker 10 (59:45):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (59:46):
Would you want to be a Bertrand?
Speaker 8 (59:47):
No?
Speaker 5 (59:48):
Bertrand, Yeah it sounds pretty sweet, it does not?
Speaker 1 (59:52):
Yeah, what's up?
Speaker 3 (59:54):
Noron?
Speaker 5 (59:57):
Yes, I'll have the foy growl on the coffe doll.
Speaker 1 (01:00:01):
Would you want to be an Oliver?
Speaker 13 (01:00:02):
No?
Speaker 5 (01:00:02):
What's wrong with Holliday?
Speaker 1 (01:00:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:00:05):
What's wrong with Oliver?
Speaker 1 (01:00:06):
It's a bad name.
Speaker 5 (01:00:09):
This is coming from the guy called Matt. That's that's it.
Speaker 1 (01:00:12):
Matthew, Mark Luke, and Johnson is in the Bible.
Speaker 5 (01:00:14):
That's very basic.
Speaker 1 (01:00:16):
You know what basic works? I think some other names
that you wouldn't want to be named. It doesn't matter.
Speaker 3 (01:00:24):
You're so weird. Austin, Austin, Austin. I wouldn't want to
be Braylyn Braylyn, Yeah, it's pretty bad.
Speaker 1 (01:00:34):
All right. There you go.
Speaker 3 (01:00:35):
That's our name conversation for the day. If you're if
your name is Ethel and you're under sixty, call us
and let us know who you are. Uh, it's time
for some gut feeling. This is what we make our
sports predictions. Did we write the ones down from last week?
Speaker 1 (01:00:47):
ROSSI?
Speaker 5 (01:00:48):
Of course, we fully even doing it every week.
Speaker 1 (01:00:50):
Yeah, but I feel like I forget something, you know,
we forgot to do last Thursday?
Speaker 5 (01:00:53):
What the rotten five? Oh man, that's a shame.
Speaker 3 (01:00:57):
What you forgot, Matt? That's what'll get it in this week?
Speaker 1 (01:01:02):
Well? I have you. I have it the schedule for
tomorrow because you didn't do it last week, and lord knows,
if I'm not there, you're not going to remember to
do it. M hm. We should do the rotten five tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (01:01:15):
It's such a next week. I'm mean vacation mode tomorrow. Same,
I am the glory vacation.
Speaker 5 (01:01:23):
Mode of here.
Speaker 1 (01:01:25):
How is the office today? How's the sales?
Speaker 3 (01:01:27):
It's ghost? I believe there was an incentive, a given
in order to put in a lot of work, in
order to work from home and then incentive was.
Speaker 1 (01:01:37):
Met, So that's what I was told.
Speaker 3 (01:01:39):
Okay, uses is Gordy in the office today? Ghost Town?
I have nasty Gordy Brian Erickson.
Speaker 5 (01:01:46):
There you know the answer these questions.
Speaker 1 (01:01:51):
Wow, Hey, you're not here. That the work. If the
Rockets were home, I'd be at the office with you today.
That's true. Thank you, Matt.
Speaker 5 (01:02:00):
I appreciate you working.
Speaker 1 (01:02:02):
Thank you.
Speaker 5 (01:02:02):
You're still in Phoenix.
Speaker 1 (01:02:03):
Yeah, we're leaving for San Francisco today in a couple
of hours. So are you going.
Speaker 3 (01:02:09):
To San Francisco.
Speaker 1 (01:02:11):
We're playing this song tomorrow, don't you know?
Speaker 5 (01:02:15):
We have to we play real good San Francisco songs. Actually,
that one's kind of a jam.
Speaker 4 (01:02:19):
I'll give it to you as far as James, as
far as the sixty year old jams you forced us
to play on this song that's not.
Speaker 3 (01:02:25):
One of the worst ones on this show that we've played.
Is what is the George Straight song about Arizona Ocean
front property in Arizona.
Speaker 1 (01:02:35):
Ocean fu Yeah, yeah, I didn't ask you to sing it. Hey, yeah,
we're gonna play coming up in the next time.
Speaker 3 (01:02:42):
I'd rather here sitting on the dock of the bay,
or I left my heart in San Francisco. We're gonna
play them all tomorrow tomorrow. But San Francisco songs on
the show. Oh yeah, I like that and no Rotten five,
which makes me sad. But that's it's fine, that's good.
Speaker 1 (01:02:55):
You're all right. Let's go gout feelings. You any got feelings?
Speaker 3 (01:02:58):
Let us know seven one three two two five seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven ninety
Listen up cause the boys so Petersen that tummy yo,
they got a gut dealer.
Speaker 1 (01:03:11):
This is their gut feeling on the Matt Thomas Show.
Here we go. Time for you to tell us what's
gonna happen in the world of sports. And if you
get the predictions right.
Speaker 3 (01:03:21):
Like Gary gave you twenty three nineteen last week for
the Texans over the village and call back and brag on,
I'm seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven.
Speaker 1 (01:03:33):
NINETI Before we make our predictions for this week, ross's
gonna tell us.
Speaker 3 (01:03:36):
How we did from one week ago, Yes, Matthew one
a week ago you had Lane Kiffen sting at Ole
miss how we feeling.
Speaker 5 (01:03:47):
Mid it could happen?
Speaker 4 (01:03:50):
I think you know, he's posting a lot of these, like, uh,
these self help inspirational quotes about like finding yourself and
not wanting too much and more and minding up where
you're happy. If he's truly happy in Oxford and he's
truly buying into whatever he's posting, maybe he will stay there.
Or he could just be trolling like he often is.
Speaker 3 (01:04:11):
Now, let me ask you this. I have been to Oxford, Mississippi,
one time. I've been to Baton Rouge ten times. Does
living in a city make that big of a difference
to anybody in college football?
Speaker 1 (01:04:23):
Yes, because if it does, Oxford's charming Baton Rouge. I'm wrong.
Speaker 3 (01:04:29):
On Baton Rouge.
Speaker 1 (01:04:30):
It's fine. It's like the Burger King Louisiana. Wait, you
mean you'll go there, but you only You're like, no
one's going. I cannot wait to get into Baton Rouge.
Speaker 3 (01:04:41):
I had a good time there.
Speaker 1 (01:04:45):
I do love a college atmosphere. I do love college towns,
and boy that that city does shut down when LSU plays.
Speaker 3 (01:04:51):
It's got casinos too. Does Oxford have casinos?
Speaker 1 (01:04:54):
I don't think so. It's been so long since I
guess what it is.
Speaker 3 (01:04:58):
I'm worried about that.
Speaker 1 (01:04:58):
But no, no, but you know it's in Mississippi and
Tunica is I can't be too.
Speaker 3 (01:05:04):
Far away from there, So I would rather live in
baton Rouge. Okay, food's got to be better, yep, the better.
Speaker 1 (01:05:16):
The rap music is better? You think you think link Kip,
it's going, man, all things created equal? Where can I
get the better?
Speaker 15 (01:05:21):
Are?
Speaker 1 (01:05:21):
I think so? Bat Rouge? Duh? I mean Chimes is
a wonderful restaurant. I am team Chimes. Chimes is good,
is really good. You probably get unlimited basing rains.
Speaker 3 (01:05:35):
Yeah, that's that place is overrated. Chimes good. I'll even
say raising canes overrated?
Speaker 1 (01:05:43):
What what's up? Mmmm? That's all right?
Speaker 4 (01:05:47):
Then you also had the Texans losing by at least
seven points to the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 3 (01:05:51):
That's why I'm not making a prediction wrong. That's I
lose every time, every single all right?
Speaker 1 (01:05:58):
Whatever?
Speaker 3 (01:05:59):
Uh?
Speaker 4 (01:05:59):
And that that's all I wrote down for you. I
had the Texans covering the five and a half and
then of course by Thursday, I had them pulling the upset,
which they did, and I had Kyle Tucker over seven
and a half years. I think I just put that down.
I don't know why I was being riched.
Speaker 1 (01:06:15):
Just because you wanted to more salt on my head
on your steak.
Speaker 5 (01:06:18):
A twisted the knife. That's unfortunate.
Speaker 3 (01:06:21):
Jonathan Allen had the Rockets on a seven game winning streak.
While they lost to the Denver Nuggetgets. He also had
the Kansas City Chiefs losing. Did the Indianapolis called.
Speaker 1 (01:06:32):
He was chee.
Speaker 3 (01:06:36):
When I got to overton Off, I said, okay, it's.
Speaker 1 (01:06:39):
So close, such a hater for the Chiefs.
Speaker 5 (01:06:42):
And that's the gut feelings from last week.
Speaker 1 (01:06:45):
All right, Okay, so gut feelings going around. I'm gonna say,
by this time next week, Jake Myers is no longer
an astro. I hate to say that because that's your guy.
Speaker 3 (01:06:57):
This time next week. Yep, uh, okay, that's fine. That
makes sense.
Speaker 4 (01:07:07):
It makes too much sense, especially if they if they
really believe in Zach Cole and Jacob Meltin, which.
Speaker 1 (01:07:12):
I don't know that they do. I don't know, And
boy cam Smith is still getting that load of that.
Speaker 4 (01:07:17):
I mean, if you need a glove who can't hit much,
Jacob Meltain's a good option. So I mean he can
replace Jake Myers there, and he's a lefty bat which
is going to provide more value.
Speaker 3 (01:07:26):
Yeah, all right, I'm still going with Jake Myers, and
not that I want him going because I like Jake.
Speaker 1 (01:07:31):
And by the way, he can hate Jake. No, I
love Jake.
Speaker 3 (01:07:33):
I am a I am not a president of the
fan club, but I'm a I'm a follower of it.
I've contributed to go to the gofund me account.
Speaker 1 (01:07:44):
Whatever.
Speaker 3 (01:07:48):
All right, I'm going with a double upset week, Baby.
Speaker 4 (01:07:55):
The Houston Texans will go up to Indianapolis and win
and beat the Colts.
Speaker 3 (01:08:05):
Wow, and your Texas Longhorns in their second biggest rivalry game.
We'll take on the undefeated Texas A and m Aggies,
and despite their struggles against the run game and running quarterbacks,
(01:08:28):
that does have me a lot worried. Yeah, they'll find
a way and they'll pull off the upset at home
in front of a hundred thousand plus you know, some
stadiums can't even get thirty.
Speaker 1 (01:08:39):
It's gonna be one.
Speaker 3 (01:08:40):
Hundred thousand plus Rockets Longhorn fans at DKR and they're
gonna pull the upset as well. Texas and Texans win.
Speaker 1 (01:08:50):
What's up, Aggie? You want to respond to that right now,
your team has a chance to go for a perfect season,
go to the SEC championship hip. By the way, who
do we know who's playing in the SEC Championship game yet?
Speaker 15 (01:09:03):
No?
Speaker 4 (01:09:03):
What the Aggies right now? And then there's three one
loss teams? Is it Georgia? I can't keep track Old Georgia,
somebody else? Yeah, and this is another question for Chris Gordy.
Speaker 3 (01:09:17):
Okay, here we go. Here are my guts. I'm gonna
keep my lane kiffing an old Miss. I think I'm
gonna lose that one, but I'm.
Speaker 1 (01:09:24):
Gonna stay with it.
Speaker 4 (01:09:25):
Alabama Alabama with one loss, Ole Miss with one loss,
Georgia Bulldogs with one loss, and after this week Aggie's
with one loss.
Speaker 5 (01:09:32):
Alabama has two losses, no two A Conference losses.
Speaker 3 (01:09:37):
Cougars beat batter by at least ten this week. Hashtag
rebound game, hashtag undefeated on the road.
Speaker 1 (01:09:45):
Let's go. Okay, uh, you know what, I'll make a
texting prediction right here's.
Speaker 14 (01:09:54):
Such a fraud.
Speaker 1 (01:09:55):
I love it. Go ahead. I mean, I don't even
know what for on the air at this point seven
three two one two five seven ninety Can you hear us?
Speaker 3 (01:10:05):
Seven one three two one two five seven.
Speaker 1 (01:10:07):
Nighty.
Speaker 3 (01:10:08):
If you're alive, you can call the show. Just give
us an eyeblink or like a bad phone could disconnect.
Just let us know what they were on and you
hear us seven one three two one two five seven.
Speaker 1 (01:10:21):
God, I don't know. All right, I'm gonna go. I'm
not ready. I can't do this yet.
Speaker 3 (01:10:32):
I'm not I'll happen at the end of the secment.
I promise John they what do you got for your
gut this week?
Speaker 1 (01:10:37):
Wow? What a pump thing.
Speaker 3 (01:10:39):
I think arts Man's throwing two interceptions.
Speaker 1 (01:10:45):
And wins that game? Oh my?
Speaker 3 (01:10:49):
And then I want to settle. Come on, you can't
let the cult win. Hull of Blue connect out. What
does that even mean?
Speaker 1 (01:10:55):
I don't even know. It's like a gibberish.
Speaker 7 (01:10:58):
And then I want to settle. This is my last,
my final time. Chiefs lose to the Cowboys on Thanksgiving
and I'm stick. Beat the Cowboys right that down.
Speaker 3 (01:11:10):
You know what. I'm the cos fan, never been my life. Cowboys?
Please is your year?
Speaker 1 (01:11:13):
Oh? Come on, you're such a Kansas City hater? What
what did Travis?
Speaker 3 (01:11:19):
It's a Chief by three is the line for those
playing at home.
Speaker 5 (01:11:22):
Cowboys got that. They just you see how they play
with the Colts. Do you see all this?
Speaker 7 (01:11:29):
They're the most floppy, whining team I've ever seen in
my twenty three is living and I watched blah blah ball.
Speaker 1 (01:11:36):
Colts twenty six, Texas twenty four.
Speaker 5 (01:11:41):
Mm.
Speaker 1 (01:11:44):
Remember when I give you Texas predictions, they're typically wrong.
Even when I predicted them win, they're wrong.
Speaker 4 (01:11:50):
Okay, I will, I will give you a final score
on the Texas. Oh you know what, I'm gonna flip
yours kind of twenty six twenty two Texans.
Speaker 1 (01:12:06):
Okay, you got a pregnant pauser.
Speaker 3 (01:12:08):
Though I know twenty two is a weird number. No,
it's good, though, is we had nineteen last week? Nobody
had that anticipated.
Speaker 4 (01:12:17):
Chet ummm to me go, Ryan's likes to kick so
many field goals. That's why I always pick weird numbers
for the Texans too.
Speaker 1 (01:12:24):
Yeah, that's true. But I about this one. Let's see
here was something about the go Jonathan Taylor does not
rush for one hundred yards. Ooh, that is old. That's
a bold one.
Speaker 5 (01:12:38):
I like that, though, But you still have the Colts
winning and scoring twenty six?
Speaker 1 (01:12:42):
Yes, yes, okay, I think I think that the passing
game is going to be much more effective this week.
Speaker 4 (01:12:52):
Any Danny Jones, Yeah, I think Danny Jones legs something
to watch out for, all right.
Speaker 3 (01:12:58):
Yeah, Jonathan Taylor less than a hundred. I think the
tight ends for the Colts. One of them will reach
the end zone this week.
Speaker 4 (01:13:07):
Did I lock in Justin Verlander as an astro? I
don't think I did in the last couple of weeks.
Let me write that down.
Speaker 1 (01:13:12):
I have a gut, I'll keep it. It's a gut
feeling for sure.
Speaker 5 (01:13:15):
Okay, you have a did you say that before he's
an astro?
Speaker 1 (01:13:18):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (01:13:19):
Yeah, he's already.
Speaker 6 (01:13:20):
Ye.
Speaker 3 (01:13:21):
I got Myers traded by next week. Rockets Warriors. I'm
gonna stay away from that because I just hate the
Warriors more than life itself.
Speaker 5 (01:13:30):
And there's no Kevin Durant.
Speaker 3 (01:13:33):
And I'm not going to predict the Cougars because last
of the Cougars did not do very well in this
player as a tournament, didn't mean anything, but they didn't.
You know, they did one yesterday beating.
Speaker 1 (01:13:41):
Syracuse, So I got that. Playing Rick Barnes and the
Tennessee Volunteers tonight.
Speaker 4 (01:13:51):
I got I got a prediction. For the Warriors game. Yes, sir,
uh Draymond Green flagrant review at some point in the game.
Speaker 1 (01:13:58):
Is he gonna play I thought he was hurt. Is
he heard it ill? I mean, it's still could happened.
He could get away. He could be play openly reviewed
during the game.
Speaker 5 (01:14:09):
You know, he's getting in a beef with Kenyon Martin
on Twitter.
Speaker 1 (01:14:12):
He's gonna get a beep with everybody. By the way,
here are the SEC title game scenarios. Oh Jesus, here
we go home wins there in or Alabama and Old
Miss loss.
Speaker 3 (01:14:24):
Alabama is in with a win. Georgia gets in with
an Alabama loss or an A and M loss. Old
Miss gets in with a win plus an A and
M loss plus all.
Speaker 5 (01:14:36):
Let's just see what happened. Let's just do this afterwards.
Speaker 3 (01:14:38):
Jesus.
Speaker 1 (01:14:39):
Well, you know we are your official home of SEC football.
Speaker 15 (01:14:44):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:14:45):
Look at Gordy throw. I mean, Gordy is so into us.
I love Gordy.
Speaker 3 (01:14:48):
He just sends us stuff like we were talking about
there's nobody in the office today and he had to.
Speaker 1 (01:14:51):
Come back and say I was there yesterday. It's fine,
Gordy can do it.
Speaker 3 (01:14:56):
There anybody in the office I'm not worried about it
is Chris Gordy claiming. On the other hand, I'm concerned
about not Gordy.
Speaker 5 (01:15:04):
He's the executive producer of this show.
Speaker 3 (01:15:06):
He is, and he can he get us a good
Texas versus A and M guest. Since I'm over two
of my guests.
Speaker 5 (01:15:12):
Looking for let's just get Gordy on.
Speaker 1 (01:15:15):
I like him something a little bigger.
Speaker 3 (01:15:16):
Wow, you just had locked on colds. You can't get
locked on sec What a hater?
Speaker 1 (01:15:23):

(01:15:43):
I'm not weird. By the way, no one's called yet
with the name Mildred or Agnes. It's under the age
of twenty five or ethel names are long gone. All right,
got feelings come out?
Speaker 5 (01:15:59):
You've had as like two weeks.
Speaker 1 (01:16:01):
What's going on? This cough?
Speaker 3 (01:16:05):
I almost took nighttime medicine, which was what it would
have been terrible for the show, especially since I've been.

I think they're playing University of Hawaii KNA. That could
be a tricky matchup. You never know these things. That
was a good pull by the University of Hawaii ConA.
I don't even know who you all are playing.
Speaker 1 (01:17:21):
Are we carrying the game?
Speaker 15 (01:17:21):
That?
Speaker 6 (01:17:21):
I am sure?
Speaker 3 (01:17:22):
I don't know what's happening. It's so bad.
Speaker 1 (01:17:27):
We are playing Shamanad. I knew it. So bad. They
don't even have a record. It says Texas four and
two versus Shamanad.
Speaker 3 (01:17:35):
No record, They're just they're just floating around in space.
Speaker 1 (01:17:40):
The matchup predictor at ESPN says you have a ninety
nine chance of winning. I hope they pull it off.
Oh my god, that is hysterical.
Speaker 5 (01:17:49):
Oh why can't Yeah, there's no page for Shamanad.
Speaker 1 (01:17:57):
No, there's no record and they don't even really exist.
Speaker 15 (01:18:00):
So bad.
Speaker 5 (01:18:02):
The Silver Swords.
Speaker 1 (01:18:04):
Maybe the Longhorns can go play that school on fifty
nine year Richmond Rosenberg Area.
Speaker 5 (01:18:09):
That'd be a good Matt non con Oh, yeah, that
one that SFA played. What are they called the Proctor.
Speaker 1 (01:18:15):
School or whatever something like that.
Speaker 3 (01:18:17):
Goodness, it's like the made up school that quarterback that's
going to u H is from. Hey, was that called
the Spring School of the whatever? Well, it's it's our
own version of the IMG Academy.
Speaker 1 (01:18:30):
How about that.
Speaker 4 (01:18:32):
School of Science and Technology or whatever? What is it
called No, it was something totally made up. What's that
guy's name, Keishawn Henderson or something.
Speaker 1 (01:18:40):
Henderson, Yeah, number one quarterback in the country.
Speaker 3 (01:18:43):
So I'm presuming we're paying him, and we're gonna pay
legacy legacy the School of Sports Sciences.
Speaker 1 (01:18:51):
I would try to get my kids to go there,
and they wouldn't go.
Speaker 4 (01:18:54):
Yeah, sure, your fax machine is broken. Legacy the Legacy
of the School of Sport Sciences.
Speaker 3 (01:19:04):
Yes, it's a highly acclaimed college preparatory school because you

You're going to a Tier one school at the University Houston.
You gotta be ready to go. So there you have.
Speaker 5 (01:19:18):
When did the school open?
Speaker 3 (01:19:21):
Don't do any don't do a search on this. I
don't I don't want the end results of this. I'd
rather just presume it's awesome.
Speaker 5 (01:19:31):
Wiki page doesn't say when it opened.
Speaker 1 (01:19:34):
Well, because it's it's open, it's it's a it's a newbie,
it's it's a thriver. It's like greatness with district is
this said it's open eighteen, it's in District thirty six
three A or five A, something like that. Complaining you know,
you mean tell me that every one of the University
of Texas alums. Players are coming from thoroughbred high school.
(01:19:56):
I didn't say that.
Speaker 3 (01:19:57):
We weren't talking about the Texas.
Speaker 1 (01:20:01):
Maybe everybody's educationally they're different ross.
Speaker 3 (01:20:07):
By the way, I was in Ohio last week and
they passed a bill I think, or they were thinking
about passing a bill for NILS too, for high school players.
I thought that was already done deal or is that
another state? Six six states don't have it at this point.
Ohio was one of them. Oh my gosh, Well, because
we've seen how NIL has made everything awesome and cush
(01:20:29):
in college.
Speaker 1 (01:20:30):
I think it's my little bringing to the high school level.
Speaker 5 (01:20:32):
Hey man, the kids can get a little money. Good
for them.
Speaker 1 (01:20:35):
Mm hmm, man, I do we have it in Texas?
By the way, do we? I think we do have
it in Texas? Correct if you get NIL, if you
wanted to.
Speaker 5 (01:20:44):
I believe.
Speaker 15 (01:20:45):
So.
Speaker 3 (01:20:45):
I went to a I went to a high school
game recently and they were they were endorsing. They were
all telling what their favorite order from Whataburger was. So
I think so that would be the epitome of that. Yeah,
for sure, I would do it for. I would do
it for I would go to a different school for
free uber rides.
Speaker 5 (01:21:01):
I'll go with the number two with cheese and grilled holapenos.
Speaker 1 (01:21:04):
No tomatoes, love tomatoes.
Speaker 3 (01:21:08):
Seeing the problem is fast food to I like tomatoes,
but sometimes the fast food tomatoes are very bad, and
they just bogged down the sandwich with bad flavor and sagginess.
Speaker 1 (01:21:16):
That is true.
Speaker 3 (01:21:16):
I used to cut when I was working McDonald's. We
just cut tomatoes at five o'clock in the morning before
with the rest. As I'm saying, yeah, we'd put them
in their FRIDERI Wilham sat there in the.
Speaker 1 (01:21:24):
Heat, those those mcdlts that make themselves ross.
Speaker 4 (01:21:30):
It's a great f tomatoes. And when I make burgers
at home, I used I slice my own tomatoes.
Speaker 1 (01:21:38):
All right, Uh, let's get to the news at noon.
Speaker 3 (01:21:41):
You want to make sure, right not please, let's do that.
Speaker 1 (01:21:43):
It's half hour has been a complete utter disaster. I
think it's great. I don't know. I think people are people.
Speaker 3 (01:21:53):
Was it light now you hardly have to go anywhere?
It was traffic, I mean, traffic been pretty easy the
last couple of days or has.
Speaker 1 (01:21:58):
Been pretty tactical.
Speaker 5 (01:21:59):
Like I'm not the one to ask. I got a
four minute commute.
Speaker 3 (01:22:02):
Today was pretty hectic, I'm calle. Yesterday was pretty chill.
Speaker 1 (01:22:05):
Okay, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:22:08):
For there's a lot of construction going on right now.
So much now does Houston ever finish their construction.
Speaker 1 (01:22:15):
Here's what I'm gonna do.
Speaker 3 (01:22:16):
I'm gonna go get another cup of coffee, so, oh
my gosh, make it forty eight ounces.
Speaker 1 (01:22:20):
This is bad.
Speaker 3 (01:22:22):
You're gonna We're gonna play some highlights us. You will

Speaker 3 (01:22:56):
I'm properly caffeinated. Or down the home stretch waight downe
on the Matt Thomas Show with Ross Ross Iran into
some assistant coaches with a team downstairs getting that cup
of coffee. They're like Matta you'll, I said, Matt, I'm
doing great, nothing wrong with me at all.
Speaker 1 (01:23:13):
Just give me a second twenty five while you're shaking
so much. And then I said, and they said. I
just went downstairs and the coaches said, hey, man, you're
doing ocassid. Yeah, I'm having my second twenty four hours.
I got nothing wrong with me? Did I already repeat myself?
I'm sorry, jeez?
Speaker 5 (01:23:26):
Are you all right?
Speaker 1 (01:23:27):

Speaker 4 (01:23:46):
No Kevin Durant, no problem, one fourteen to ninety two
over the Phoenix Suns defense holding the Suns to under
one hundred. And it would have been even less if
Dylan Brooks weren't going off. He was had twenty nine
points on eleven of twenty two shooting, but the Rockets
were led by Amen Thompson twenty eight points. How about
(01:24:08):
eight assists and seven rebounds as well, showing off the
athleticism on the National Peacock broadcast, Alpi Hinggoon with a
quiet eighteen five and five, but he was eight to
fourteen from the field, so he had a pretty solid
game as well in a Ron holiday big off the bench,
six of ten from the three point line. Add it
(01:24:30):
all up, Rockets get the victory, eleven and four on
the season. Matt, Now, of course I know you were
standings watcher, guys, so let's go.
Speaker 1 (01:24:38):
In and do this. Can I do it?
Speaker 13 (01:24:39):
Please?
Speaker 1 (01:24:39):
Go ahead?
Speaker 15 (01:24:40):
You know what?
Speaker 5 (01:24:40):
Go ahead?
Speaker 1 (01:24:42):
Rockets right now would open up the playoffs as the
four seed against San Antonio Spurs.
Speaker 5 (01:24:50):
But the playoffs don't start today.
Speaker 1 (01:24:52):
No, they don't start for approximately five months.
Speaker 3 (01:24:55):
Here, are right ridiculous as it is, You are ridiculous. Yes,
you know what.
Speaker 5 (01:24:59):
I'm glad you said. Don't say I sound ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (01:25:04):
I am obsessed with standings. I will never change. I
look at the AFC playoff picture for the Texans at
least six times a day, thinking things are going to change,
and they really don't. The only thing it doesn't change, either,
is the Fantasy Football Young graduate list of the Houston Toros.
Speaker 3 (01:25:19):
A nice win yesterday, Yeah, hes mak care of Cols
Rough Riders and basically finished me off.
Speaker 4 (01:25:25):
I'm done, man four and eight now, no chance to
make the playoffs unfortunately.
Speaker 1 (01:25:32):
Yeah, I think you're there's.
Speaker 3 (01:25:34):
Yeah, here's a quick press conference from Cal's Rough Riders
and team governor Ross.
Speaker 1 (01:25:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:25:42):
You know, it started with some bad decisions at the
top of the draft. We took Saquon Barkley over Jamir
Gibbs and that was the death blow. He went off
for fifty points again us against a strangely poetic there.
Obviously didn't help that Malik Neighbors went down, had some
other injuries as well throughout the season. Brought party to
play the entire year, not like he's been good when
(01:26:02):
he has been playing. So got to go back to
the drawing board. Who've had some issues at the top
of the draft, and we're looking forward to a resetting
for next year and getting better. We are not going
to win a championship for a four straight year, but
we're still proud of what we've accomplished in this league.
Speaker 3 (01:26:17):
And if we don't get our nil money up, we're
gonna get losing our job really quickly.
Speaker 4 (01:26:22):
You know, it's not realistic to think I was gonna
win four straight championships.
Speaker 3 (01:26:26):
You know, God, if it was, I was really going
to retire. But now I've got the juices flowing again.
Speaker 1 (01:26:30):
The Totos are back.
Speaker 4 (01:26:32):
Even we thought we'd let somebody else win this year,
but whatever. All right, anyways, let's keep it the NBA
real quick. Actually, Oklahoma City thunder best in basketball in
net rating, by the way, the Rockets number two. How
about the Detroit Pistons thirteen straight wins, tying a franchise record.
The other teams in their history who have won thirteen
(01:26:55):
straight games have all won the NBA Championship. That would
be the nineteen ninety and two thousand and four Detroit Pistons, Matt,
they were horrible last year.
Speaker 1 (01:27:04):
They are now fifteen and two.
Speaker 3 (01:27:07):
Are we putting the contender status on the Detroit Pistons
or is it still too early?
Speaker 6 (01:27:12):
No, we are.
Speaker 3 (01:27:13):
It's gonna come down to I think three teams, Detroit, Milwaukee.
Speaker 1 (01:27:20):
And who else in the East. I'm trying to think.
I'm looking at the standings, you know, ho, missly.
Speaker 3 (01:27:25):
Boks have lost five in a row. They're eight and ten.
The Raptors have been good, They've won eight in a row.
The Heat have won five in a row. They just
got a Tyler hero batter who he is? He does
Donod McNab doesn't win big playoff series. I'm not buying
he does.
Speaker 1 (01:27:39):
Anyway, he got to the Super Bowl with toront Owen's
on a broken leg. What did I say, Donovan Mitchell McNab. Jeez,
I'm not buying it on Toronto, I'm not buying it.
On Miami, New York. I think is good. Atlanta's mid
Philolphi has been a surprise. Serry, what are we doing here?
We break it down Eastern Conference basketball? What is wrong
without Fosse?
Speaker 4 (01:28:00):
I think the three best teams in basketball to the
thunder Nuggets and Rockets. But the Pistons are starting to
enter that conversation.
Speaker 1 (01:28:06):
Yeah, all right, that's good.
Speaker 3 (01:28:09):
All right, Moving along here and all the news at
noon here on Sports Talk seven ninety. How about some
baseball news.
Speaker 4 (01:28:16):
The Red Sox acquiring former Cy Young finalist Sonny Gray
from the Saint Louis Cardinals. According to Jeff Passon of ESPN,
Sonny Gray thirty six years old. Also, the Cardinals sending
twenty million dollars to cover Sonny Gray's salary, which will
(01:28:38):
pay him thirty five million dollars this year.
Speaker 1 (01:28:41):
Remember when the Astros were looking to go for Sunny
Gray and the price tag was way too uncomfortable for
the local nine.
Speaker 3 (01:28:49):
Yes, it was, but Red Sox getting better and the
arms race in the American League, Boston Red Sox received
Sonny Gray and cash Cardinals get prospects or getting a
Brandon clarkscuse me and Richard Fitz. I don't think either
of use. I think at least Clark is a major leaguer, right,
I don't know about fits. And that was a news
(01:29:13):
and Noon, by the way, shout out to the Cougars
minos Uzan Emmanuel Sharp with twenty six points apiece. Last night,
Cougars beat syrahcuse in overtime seventy eight to seventy four.
Speaker 4 (01:29:23):
And oh, actually, one more quick note of the news
of noon. Matt Rick Fox is running for a legislative
seat in the Bahamas. Of all places you could run
for office, Bahamas has to be on the shortlist.
Speaker 12 (01:29:34):
Right.
Speaker 3 (01:29:36):
I've never been, so I can't speak to it, but
I don't think people go God, that's horrible.
Speaker 4 (01:29:42):
Yes, but his candidacy is coming as the area is
struggling with a high profile corruption case and an influx
of people entering the country illegally, and ongoing recovery from
Hurricane Dorian, the Category five storm that hit in September
of twenty nineteen.
Speaker 3 (01:30:00):
I gotta be honest, Rick Fox is one of those
guys that women stop in their tracks, that look at him.
It's disgusting. Actually, what happened to his esports?
Speaker 6 (01:30:08):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (01:30:08):
He had he had Fox Esports or something like that.
Speaker 1 (01:30:11):
Did that fold? Most of his esports have gone away?
Speaker 3 (01:30:15):
Yeah, Echo Fox. No, they're still thriving. Not thriving, thrive
just just because you're not paying attention to something. Playing
video games not thriving. Somebody once told me it was
gonna be as popular as Nascar. I'm like, okay, well
they're wrong about that. It's too fractured. There's too many games.
But I mean there's a lot of popular uh esports
(01:30:35):
entities that are doing well, still getting millions of followers. No,
it's not gonna happen. There's too many games.
Speaker 4 (01:30:43):
There's Rocket League, and there's DODA, and then there's Legal
Legal Legends is the biggest one, right, yes, And there's
Apex Legends, Call of Duty.
Speaker 5 (01:30:50):
It's just too many different things too many different John.
Speaker 1 (01:30:54):
One time I was in Vegas and there were about
three thousand people on the floor at MGM casino, and
I'm like, what is going on? Is just somebody celebritying
to know there are a bunch of people watching people
play video games. I'm like, you know what, you gotta
get a life. Yeah, there's still people doing that. It
was also ten years ago too.
Speaker 4 (01:31:10):
It's people who are the best in the world at
a game you can play like the NBA. It's people
who are the best in the world at a game
you can go out in the hoop and shoot shoot
a hoop. That's professional here.
Speaker 3 (01:31:22):
He got some shots out, but nobody's gonna watch you.
You can play video games at home, but nobody's gonna
watch you if you're not even good.
Speaker 1 (01:31:27):
Yeah. Ryan Hollin's a huge Madden two K watcher.
Speaker 5 (01:31:31):
We'll see there you go.
Speaker 3 (01:31:35):
We'll We had a nice five star Diamond restaurant, eating
steak and potatoes and having a nice glass of your
favorite veno, and all of a sudden boom, he's got
a Madden game on his phone. I think Lebron's like
top of the world.
Speaker 1 (01:31:50):
I'm mata.
Speaker 15 (01:31:51):
Is that true?
Speaker 3 (01:31:51):
Yeah, he's like not in the last season, he was
like fifteen or something.
Speaker 1 (01:31:56):
Why you see who?
Speaker 6 (01:31:57):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:31:58):
Speaking of video games, did you see who Aman Thompson
was gonna would choose in the first pick up his
NBA two K draft?
Speaker 1 (01:32:06):
Wait? Is this true? Wait?
Speaker 4 (01:32:08):
Lebron James was a top one hundred player in Madden
five on rank. That is actually insane. There are millions
and millions of players. I was in madd in two
thousand and four. I was super proud of myself, Like
I still brag about this to this day. I cracked
the top ten thousand, and I was like, man, I'm
(01:32:28):
a bad man. I cracked the top.
Speaker 1 (01:32:29):
He's top one hundred. Is this true?
Speaker 3 (01:32:36):
Sane, mat We're gonna get you in a game. We
put a coroll in your hand. Millions and millions of
people play this game. If you are top one hundred,
that's crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:32:45):
I'm you know what, I'm a top one hundred player
in pole position.
Speaker 3 (01:32:49):
And there's no way in pac Man, no way, okay yo,
hell yeah, I am miss. Especially those reaction times have
probably eroded over the years. You don't know not what
the coffee you got on right now? Yeah, it's true.
Speaker 1 (01:33:05):
You don't know at all. I'm a great pole position driver,
a great pac Man player.
Speaker 3 (01:33:10):
This is actually mind boggling. I'm blown away a huge
Frogger player, but I could play if I needed to,
and I'm exceptional in the game called Pong.
Speaker 1 (01:33:19):
Hashtag quick reaction time.
Speaker 3 (01:33:22):
How much does he play?
Speaker 1 (01:33:24):
You're obsessed with this, Lebron James?
Speaker 3 (01:33:26):
No, this is this is actually I know. I know
you don't care, Matt, but Jonathan knows. This is a
crazy Yeah. I thought you knew that. No, it was
a big like I think it was last year he
hit that. So basically, anything Lebron James does in terms
of skill and or athleticism he's really good at.
Speaker 5 (01:33:44):
That's pretty crazy.
Speaker 7 (01:33:45):
Yeah, you have your own head coach when you play
a game like that, chains defenses and all that stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:33:50):
Hmm. Wow.
Speaker 3 (01:33:53):
You know whether not on another radio show in the
marketplace talking about Lebron James being in Top Hunter except
this one I love us.
Speaker 1 (01:34:02):
Uh all right, that's that is the elongated edition of
the name ball Way. You need to answered my question,
who did Amn Thompson choose for his number one player
on the NBA two k uh to be or to
play to play?
Speaker 3 (01:34:17):
I don't know Todayta on his team, Kevin Durant Wimby,
that's smart.
Speaker 1 (01:34:23):
Adam Clinton did not like that. Lost the fan.
Speaker 5 (01:34:27):
He's hurt with a calf injury.
Speaker 1 (01:34:28):
So yeah, and you know attendance is part of the
Grade twelve eighteen of the Matt Thomas Show and Ross
seven one three two one two five seven. Ema Doka
is going to join us in forty minutes.
Speaker 3 (01:34:39):
We've got an MMA fighter coming up at one thirty,
Houston Kid, We'll get to that as well. And NFL
Ross's NFL rewind at one twenty today. What is the
most intriguing thing that happened over the week? NFL slate
will not the week W E E K week NFL
Slate seven one three two one two five seven ninety
if you want to chime in seven one three two
(01:34:59):
one two five seven nine. A little bit of sad news,
not sad, but like, oh, why are we really going
to do this news?
Speaker 1 (01:35:12):
The College Football Playoff Committee has pushed their deadline back
to December the first, to determine whether or not they
should expand to sixteen teams. They're still arguing ross about
how many automatic spots per conference and who gets them
and how that's determined.
Speaker 3 (01:35:27):
Just keep it at twelve. It's not gonna happen.
Speaker 1 (01:35:30):
Keep it at twelve. Ross, Just keep it at twelve.
Greet the disease of more.
Speaker 3 (01:35:40):
Like I want to have a conversation about this right now.
Is there something in sports that we have too much
of now.
Speaker 1 (01:35:48):
That has hurt the sport? That's kind of an open
ending question. So I'm just rattle your head about this
over exposure.
Speaker 3 (01:35:58):
Now, not necessarily television, because look, but I'm saying, is
there something we have too much of that it was
better back in the day. You could say a seventeenth
regular season game, Although that's more athletes. I don't think
fans particularly care. In fact, it gives you another week
to gamble and play fantasy football. So that's not one
of those things I would use.
Speaker 1 (01:36:19):
Is there something we have seen more of in sports
that frankly was better the way it used to be?
Speaker 3 (01:36:26):
Now you don't normally get a lot of that because
let's use the NFL as schedule as example. You know,
in the seventies they would play fourteen regular season games
in six exhibition games, and that was a disaster. They
bumped into sixteen, dropped at the preasets into four. In baseball,
there was a generation of people that watched one hundred
and fifty four that got to one hundred and sixty two.
Speaker 1 (01:36:47):
In my entire life, the rocket, the NBA has always
played eighty two. So I don't know anything less than that.
Speaker 3 (01:36:52):
The tournament, the NCAA Tournament used to be forty eight teams.
They added to sixty four. They went to sixty eight.
There's gonna be a talk of them eventually going to
ninety six. You would think that's too much, but that
hasn't happened yet. Mean, is there something currently right now?
I'll give you a great example. That's what I thought
of right as little as I was talking this out.
There are too many bowl games, too many bowl games
(01:37:18):
in our lifetime. There's too many uh boxing sanctioning bodies
and belts.
Speaker 1 (01:37:25):
Yep, I'll go with that.
Speaker 5 (01:37:29):
And maybe too many weight classes.
Speaker 3 (01:37:31):
Yeah, because you're really, what are the weight class separated
by four to five pounds? Now it feels like it depends.
Speaker 4 (01:37:37):
Yeah, the lower ego, the higher you go, then it's
after middleweight it's one sixty, then light heavyes once, but
then they.
Speaker 3 (01:37:43):
Added a new weight class. They called it bridger weight.
Have you ever heard of bridger weight.
Speaker 1 (01:37:49):
I don't even know if that is.
Speaker 4 (01:37:50):
It's between heavyweight and uh, cruiserweight. I think yeah, because
so cruise heavyweight. You know, back in the day they
didn't have so much access to food, so if you're
over two hundred pounds, you're a heavyweight. Well, these days
they the bridgerweight. They did the two hundred and twenty
four is.
Speaker 1 (01:38:09):
There're still super heavyweight.
Speaker 4 (01:38:11):
No, they're super heavyweight in the UFC. I don't know
how much they fight that. I think it's over two
sixty five. There's a heavyweight limit in UFC. I think
it's two sixty five okay, And in boxing there's no limit,
so you'd have any If you're two hundred and one pounds,
you're a heavyweight. But also if you're two hundred and
sixty pounds, you're a heavyweight, which is just ridiculous. So
they've created bridger weight.
Speaker 1 (01:38:32):
So we have too many weight classes. We have too
many bowl games. Like when I was a kid, and
you need to hit me every time I say that,
that's okay, I mean to do that, macmoddy.
Speaker 3 (01:38:41):
But there were like twelve bowls and if your team
got to a bowl, it was a big freaking deal.
Now every college team that plays Division one football, all
they do is race to get to six wins because
they know they're going to play a ball.
Speaker 1 (01:38:54):
Game, and the most of the bulls, no one gives
two craps about.
Speaker 3 (01:39:04):
In fact, they lose money for their respective leagues and
individual teams. And it's even worse with a playoff now
because think about it, and I don't know what the
minimum payoff is, but it used to be seven hundred
and fifty thousand dollars used to be each of them,
and maybe I'm guessing it's probably bumped up in recent years.
But you'd go, let's say you're Eastern Michigan and you're
(01:39:27):
gonna play in the New Orleans Bowl against I don't know,
Louisiana Tech. If you're Eastern Michigan and you go to
this bowl game, you get seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
You have to buy a certain number of tickets that's required,
and if you don't sell your tickets, you owe the
bowl back. Then you have to pay for your expenses,
(01:39:48):
and then you got to split it up with the
rest of the teams in your conference.
Speaker 1 (01:39:51):
At part of that seven fifty.
Speaker 3 (01:39:52):
Now, if you're an a Mega SEC conference or Big
twelve or Big ten or ACC, you're not sweating this.
Speaker 1 (01:39:58):
But if you're a MAC team and you got.
Speaker 3 (01:40:01):
Three teams going to a bowl game, they're only making
seven to fifty eight hundred thousand dollars.
Speaker 1 (01:40:05):
And you got to spend money.
Speaker 3 (01:40:06):
And you know that Eastern Michigan's not going to travel
in seven thousand people to New Orleans on a Tuesday
or a midweek bowl game in Mobile, Alabama.
Speaker 1 (01:40:15):
Those are losses. Now.
Speaker 3 (01:40:16):
Again, you can also sell it as hey, we went
to a ball game, we played an extra game, and
the kids enjoy the experience and whatnot.
Speaker 1 (01:40:22):
But it just it dilutes it.
Speaker 3 (01:40:26):
And it's almost like every year when the bowl schedule
comes out, there's always that list of five ball games
you have to absolutely watch, and then there's a list
of twenty bowl games.
Speaker 1 (01:40:35):
You could you can stay far away from.
Speaker 3 (01:40:40):
Too many bowl games. But again, how do you go
tell a kid that Toledo went seven and five this year?
You can't go to a bowl game.
Speaker 5 (01:40:47):
A lot of them, oh a lot of kids. They're
opting out and hitting the portal.
Speaker 3 (01:40:50):
Anyways, that's right, Like I'm going to assume that when
the Cougar's play in whatever bowl game there, and there
could be probably a half dozen players that don't play
because they want to make sure they protect their drives.
Speaker 1 (01:40:59):
Atus m.
Speaker 4 (01:41:02):
I'm looking at current bowl pay is this true? Bahama's
balls only get two dored twenty five.
Speaker 1 (01:41:07):
G's that's after the mint. I thought the mindimum payout
was seven to fifty. I thought, yeah, when you said that,
that sounded right. Hmmm. You know arm Birmingham Bowl one
point three mili. That's not terrible.
Speaker 5 (01:41:22):
You look at that.
Speaker 3 (01:41:24):
What's a nice Texas Bowl?
Speaker 1 (01:41:27):
Six point four million for Texas Bowl. Hey, let's go
your Mancisco Big twelve. What's the almabile payout? Just asking
for a friend?
Speaker 3 (01:41:37):
Eight point two mil? Oh Valero's pony up the cash.
Speaker 1 (01:41:44):
Our gas pricer can go up. But you know I
can got a bowl game.
Speaker 3 (01:41:48):
It used to be the Builder's Square, Alamo Bule Rossill.
Speaker 1 (01:41:51):
You got it. You have to go. You have to
go with me to San Antonio. If the Cougar's play there,
that's that's that is your bowl game. I show you, yeah,
I show you the ropes. If there's anybody that was
more recently as well as you. It knows that bowl.
It's you in a stadium.
Speaker 3 (01:42:04):
You've been there more recently than I have. Don't bring
that up, but I forget what game it was for.
Speaker 1 (01:42:10):
I do too.
Speaker 3 (01:42:10):
Twelve thirty two on the Matt Thomas showed Ross emy
a dook in one half hour. You may join us
at seven one three two one two five seven.
Speaker 1 (01:42:18):
Ninety if you missed the Creighton Baylor call from yesterday,
the radio call of a very controversial play is worthy
of listening again. You'll hear it next. Twelve thirty three
on Sports Talk seven ninety, Ross, I have to protect
the innocent.
Speaker 3 (01:42:37):
Two different emailers of the show, when the category was
we were bringing up to us what is being what
is too much.
Speaker 1 (01:42:45):
Compared to what there was yesteryear? Two different people said
there were too many WNBA games.
Speaker 4 (01:42:57):
If you're paying attention to zero, doesn't matter how many
there are, hmm, too many streaming services. But you're asking
about sports, Yeah, oversaturated sports. There's too many NBA regular
season games. But I mean that's just the way it's
always been.
Speaker 1 (01:43:15):
I guess I highly object to that. I'm going to
just be brutally on that's what you mean.
Speaker 5 (01:43:18):
Yeah, But that's because you're being selfish.
Speaker 1 (01:43:21):
You mean that i'd be selfish? Mestan like that?
Speaker 5 (01:43:26):
Oh sorry, did I say that out loud?
Speaker 1 (01:43:29):
I heard we heard Belly laugh and cackle at the
same time.
Speaker 3 (01:43:32):
It's supposed to be internal monologue. Now, if you love
betting on sports, the Bowl games are right up your
adely you usually got something every single night.
Speaker 5 (01:43:44):
Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 4 (01:43:45):
But I mean, come on, if you're betting on like
the Toledo Rockets versus North Texas or something.
Speaker 1 (01:43:52):
Don't sleep on North Texas. They could sneak into the CFP.
Speaker 3 (01:43:55):
By the way, that's stupid.
Speaker 1 (01:43:58):
Whatever.
Speaker 4 (01:43:58):
Any team not in the top twelve should not make
the opt toe. And I'm not saying that because Texas
is close. I've been saying this for years. I've been consistent.
Speaker 3 (01:44:07):
Have you talked with your longhorned friends. If you beat
A and M, can you get in or is it
so much? There are long worn people who are arguing
they should be in. I am not one of those people.
I'd say let the chips fall where they may. If
you lose to automatic bids, that's tough, but it is
what it is. Don't lose to Florida and at least.
(01:44:29):
I think if they had showed better against Georgia, their
ranking would be better. It was thirty five to ten.
I mean, you got your ass whooped.
Speaker 1 (01:44:35):
I think the Florida loss was bad. I think that
Georgia askicking may have been worse. Yeah, I don't know.
It's all subjective. But every time I look at somebody
on these projection projections things, I always see first four
out and I see university texts and every single one
of them.
Speaker 3 (01:44:53):
That's okay. I'm just curious if there is a scenario
that if a bunch of teams in front lose, could
you really sneak in as?
Speaker 1 (01:45:00):
Maybe that number ten they.
Speaker 3 (01:45:01):
Might you know that that Texas brand. I'm not saying
it should. Matt carries a little sway though with the pollsters.
Speaker 1 (01:45:09):
Oh you think Kirk kurmstry two weeks ago He's like, oh, yeah,
I'm watching you Texa get their as kick and by
the way they beat A and M maybe they got
a shot.
Speaker 8 (01:45:17):
You never know.
Speaker 1 (01:45:19):
You never know.
Speaker 4 (01:45:22):
And also, I mean, if it's it could depend on
how the game goes too. I don't think. I don't
think Texas is like gonna blow it. Ain't m or anything.
I think it's gonna be a close game. I did
call for the upset, but it's it's like a two
and a half point spread.
Speaker 1 (01:45:33):
All right. If we don't get anybody better, we're gonna
have Gordy on tomorrow. We're looking in front of and Drave.
We'll take Gordy. That's so rude that I say it
out loud.
Speaker 5 (01:45:42):
That was better.
Speaker 4 (01:45:43):
He knows both teams, he's good on air. Yeah, I
wonder if he's going to the game. He probably put
in for a credential. I wonder if he got accepted.
Speaker 1 (01:45:54):
I think he. I think he's been having issues with
the Texas PR folks over the years because certain their
bush league. Yeah, they can be snoody. I'm with you,
John Bianco, You're snoody and I called you by direct name.
Hope you enjoyed that. Dang, I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (01:46:10):
Every p First of all, every PR team is a
little holier than now, but certain some more than others
in Texas.
Speaker 3 (01:46:17):
Oh, you and Texas are the two worst. They and
A you're not much better. Saying you couldn't you can't
talk to Mike Elko asked him a question about whether
they got a contract extension. You can't tell people what
you can't ask.
Speaker 1 (01:46:28):
By the way, speaking of that, I gotta I need
a quick ruling on this and we'll go to dol
Uh is it Dolce? Is that who that is online? Too?
Speaker 15 (01:46:36):
There?
Speaker 1 (01:46:36):
I can't remember. I know that Doyce? What is that?
I don't know? Has a question?
Speaker 3 (01:46:41):
Jonathan, so you'll say, was already saved.
Speaker 1 (01:46:45):
Yeah, okay, quick ruling. Ross Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:46:48):
We're at the availability yesterday and Kevin Durant is out
with personal reasons for tonight yesterday's game, and was asked
by this crotchety old phoenix for order, can you explain
what the why Kevin Durant is not playing? And he
said personal reasons. The guy said, well, that's gonna lead
(01:47:11):
to a lot of speculation, and in took zero point
one off the clock for a minute say well, people
can speculate all they want to, and that's under your business.
It was a very awkward, frankly inappropriate moment. It's not
like he's going to be gone for a month. The
Rockets have already said it's going to be last night
(01:47:32):
and tomorrow he's expected to be back with the team
sending in Utah against the jazz. If personal reasons or
personal reasons.
Speaker 1 (01:47:41):
It is what it is. I mean, we don't have
to tell the whole world everything.
Speaker 3 (01:47:46):
There isn't enough people around this world or dying to
know what Kevin Durant's personal issues are. If there's anything,
could be good, could be bad. I don't even know
what they are. Don't really particularly care.
Speaker 4 (01:47:55):
Yeah, I mean I would be curious. But if it
doesn't want to be disclosed, and that's I think the
first question from the reporter's fine, Hey, do you want
to shed any more light on what's happening with Kevin Durant?
And then you say no and you move on with
your Life's say I'm saying it's Oh, you're leaving it
open for people to speculate speculations so wide.
Speaker 1 (01:48:11):
Who cares, That's right? I was.
Speaker 3 (01:48:13):
I think he's at ducking the Phoenix Suns. I would
imagine he wants nothing more than any other game on
the eighty two games to play against the Phoenix Suns.
Speaker 1 (01:48:22):
And Golden States. Yes, yeah, I mean I get it.
It's Charlotte and was a competitor of the highest order.
I just thought it was now if he misses ten
games or something in a row, then that's fair.
Speaker 3 (01:48:39):
But the Rockets got out in front of whatever the
situation is and said, it's two games, we'll see him.
Speaker 1 (01:48:43):
Sunday in Salt Lake City and we're moving on. I
just say, I hope everything's okay with Kevin Durant and
his family and let's move on with our lives.
Speaker 3 (01:48:49):
I mean, what was he supposed to say? You know,
he got a really great fare to Turks and Caicos.
Want to get there early? Maybe nice?
Speaker 1 (01:48:59):
This is what the guy was like, seventy five years old.
He had one of those old school hats. It looked
like he hadn't shaved. He looked like he had to
wash his hair in a month.
Speaker 3 (01:49:11):
Probably an all NBA voter. It was kind of just
kind of a douchey move, I thought, And again, I
wish all of us in life didn't have personal stuff.
Speaker 1 (01:49:19):
I wish we could do our jobs every single day.
Speaker 3 (01:49:21):
And not have anything that would interfere with any of
those things. And whatever he's going with or whatever he's
going through or whatever it is.
Speaker 1 (01:49:29):
They were out in front. They could have just said, oh,
he's not feeling well, but there's something going on and
let him be twelve forty three. It's a Matt Thomas
Show with Ross seven one three, two one two five
seven ninety do could have joined us in about fifteen minutes.
We'll go to Vince and the Dulce next on seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:49:47):
Emay Doaka coming up at the top of the hour.
Little Mma conversation at one thirty. In between that, Ross's
NFL rewind at one twenty to the phones we go.
Vince is with us on the Matt Thomas Show with Ross. Vince,
thank you for holding in. Good afternoon to you.
Speaker 6 (01:50:03):
Hey, good afternoon guys. Hey.
Speaker 15 (01:50:05):
First of all, I Ross, I saw your chili on
the Instagram.
Speaker 1 (01:50:09):
Man, that looks good, dude, Thank you, Vince. Anyway, it was.
Speaker 15 (01:50:15):
I concur on the on the too many bowl games
and it brought me to something I saw recently where
I don't know what it was, but basically, some one
of these football teams had won a bowl game, no
name bowl game, and it said such and such bowl
game champions, you know, the champions. I said, how can
you be a champion a six and six team against
(01:50:37):
another six and six team and claim yourself to be
a champion of anything? So just something I thought about.
Speaker 1 (01:50:44):
I don't get.
Speaker 3 (01:50:47):
That is not abnormal. Unfortunately, Vince. When you win a game,
they just say they don't see you're the winner. They
call you the champion, so it is.
Speaker 4 (01:50:53):
It's just a way to it's not a championship, but
they call them champions. I see it all that with Vince, though,
it feels a little participation trophy ish exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:51:05):
That's what eighty percent of the bulls are. Would you agree? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:51:08):
I mean we're the Popeyes Bahama Bowl champions.
Speaker 1 (01:51:12):
I mean, okay, gotcha.
Speaker 13 (01:51:18):
Well, thanks for thanks to taking my call.
Speaker 1 (01:51:19):
Guys, thank you appreciate it. Let's go next to Uh,
is it Dulce and we get it right? Dulce?
Speaker 10 (01:51:26):
No, it's Doyce.
Speaker 1 (01:51:28):
Deoyce.
Speaker 10 (01:51:29):
Okay, chew it up, spit it out, stomp on it
all you want, but just don't forget to come and
when the chili's done.
Speaker 1 (01:51:36):
Is Deuce your last name or your first name, first
name Doyce.
Speaker 10 (01:51:42):
But hey, Doyce boy, it's hippy ish. That's okay. The
reason I called is because you guys were talking about
changes in sports and what's run sports a little bit.
Is there's two things that's been on my mind for
years now. All the changes in NASCAR ruined NASCAR. NASCAR
(01:52:04):
was the fastest growing sport there for a while. But
the other thing that's really really run sports is I
think this portal thing is going to ruin something because
it takes away from the commitment of playing for a
team for four years.
Speaker 1 (01:52:19):
Well you know what I'm going to tell you this, Doyce.
Speaker 3 (01:52:23):
I was of the belief of that one hundred times
over until the last handful of years when coaches would
leave on a dime to go somewhere else. I wish
I could fall in line with what you're saying, but
I got coaches bumping from team to team to team
as soon as they get one great offer. So if
the coaches are doing why can't the players do it.
Speaker 10 (01:52:46):
I could see that other side of the sword too.
Speaker 1 (01:52:49):
Yeah, it's not great. I'm not excited about it. I'm
not excited about defending that side of it. I do believe.
I kind of liked the rule where you had to
skip a year, but man.
Speaker 5 (01:52:58):
It's not constitutional. They just keep losing lawsuits.
Speaker 3 (01:53:02):
If I can, if I can transfer from a University
of Texas, and then I can go to University of Houston,
because I want to be closer to home.
Speaker 4 (01:53:08):
I don't need to sit out of school for a year.
I mean, you're supposed to be a student athlete and
going to the school. Why should I give you here
just because you play athletics? Yeah, small example, Doyce. I've
got some friends of mine. I went to North Texas
my freshman year and this kid coach there is Eric Morris,
and he is a really successful coach at North Texas.
Speaker 1 (01:53:25):
They love him. They're trying to figure out ways to
keep him. Eric Morris is gonna have a new job
in the next year. He's just not gonna be at
North Texas. That's that's not the plan. Frame He's gonna
have a chance to make five times what he's making
right now.
Speaker 3 (01:53:38):
He's gonna leave. So if he gets to leave, why
can't the kids? And that's that's my philosophy on that.
Speaker 10 (01:53:45):
I understand that said the story, But at the same time,
I just I don't like this bouncing around from one
team to another. And it's what are we gonna do
for a Texas fan? What happens when we lose our
quarterback to the portal?
Speaker 3 (01:53:57):
Now arch, Yeah, he's not portaling.
Speaker 10 (01:54:05):
He's got the right to go he does.
Speaker 1 (01:54:07):
He's got the right to go, Doyce. All I know
is is only one place he'd like to go, and
that's the University of Houston. We don't need it. Why
do you do this?
Speaker 3 (01:54:18):
Why do you set yourself up for these delusions? Why
does that even come out of your mouth? Like what
I just I just don't get it.
Speaker 1 (01:54:27):
We don't need it. I told you we got Dave
Sean Henderson coming, we got Connor Wigman's already there.
Speaker 3 (01:54:31):
It's an absurd statement for a team that just lost
to TCU bad calls. How many points were scored by
the star quarterback?
Speaker 1 (01:54:41):
There? Not enough? Fourteen?
Speaker 3 (01:54:44):
Did they score fourteen points that whole game? Like, I'm
just curious?
Speaker 1 (01:54:48):
Why so weird? And I'm a delusional Cougar fan. I
love with it. That's fine, Delui, just play Kate to me.
Speaker 3 (01:54:58):
Just let me have you know how to handle this?
Like do I just let this fly by?
Speaker 1 (01:55:02):
Correct? Every time you do well?
Speaker 3 (01:55:03):
Every time with the long location or meet up people,
they say, keep giving Matt guff.
Speaker 1 (01:55:07):
So I don't know, uh huh, well, just not giving
me so much guff.
Speaker 4 (01:55:11):
Well, I don't care about those idiots and that in
that cesspool of a website. You sad sack human beings.
Speaker 1 (01:55:20):
Yeah, no, uh, Doyce, I'm sorry. I I if you.
Speaker 3 (01:55:25):
Fall on your sword for every sports take, you're not
gonna win if you you have to adapt with the change,
with the times.
Speaker 1 (01:55:31):
And the reality is you've got a bunch of coaches.
I could say what I mean, I don't even know
who the VanderBurg coaches, but I'm presuming that he's going
to be offered a new deal somewhere. You know, Eric
Morris is the kid. I'm a coach. I'm talking about
it North Texas. Anybody is decent. I mean, uh, what
is it? Old Dominion's got a good program this year.
Whoever that dude is, he's not gonna say there long term.
Speaker 3 (01:55:54):
Yeah, and a player who wants to find the best
opportunity for them, they should be afforded that as well.
Speaker 5 (01:55:59):
So I'm glad they can do that.
Speaker 3 (01:56:01):
But you know, I will say this though, and to
wrap this up, is that we need to stop thinking
about this as a place where these kids are going
to go to school. They're just good, They're just it's
a it's a minor league system, and it is a
little embarrassing that you would have a college football player
or athlete of any sport that's at three schools in
three years.
Speaker 1 (01:56:18):
I don't think that's the That wasn't the spirit of
the rule. But you know it's happening with coaches.
Speaker 4 (01:56:26):
H town Lelo says, the portal is trash. It's the
coach's occupation. If he wants to leave, the school allows
them to leave and let them. The athletes are students,
They're not employees.
Speaker 1 (01:56:37):
Oh they are now with getting cash.
Speaker 3 (01:56:39):
Can I can I say something about get them?
Speaker 1 (01:56:42):
I teed that up for whoever wanted.
Speaker 7 (01:56:44):
To take it, and I'm not gonna I'm not gonna
be so critical. But people with the outside perspective of saying,
the coaches and athletic directors can leave what they want,
but students are essentially locked into school as almost like
indentured servants or slaves. When we're the one creating the
(01:57:05):
product and getting the money. It doesn't make sense why
you can't go look for a better job if you're
not getting treated rights.
Speaker 3 (01:57:12):
It's the same.
Speaker 7 (01:57:14):
It's the same thing if you if coaches want to
stay there and give me a good and give me
a good time, and you know, respect me, and then
he leaves, maybe I want to go with him too.
Speaker 3 (01:57:25):
That was the coach that brought me in. That's when
I've already had this, you know, I've had this conversation
with my daughter. My daughter is going to the University
of Rhode Island next year to play college volleyball because
she loves the coaches.
Speaker 1 (01:57:35):
If those coaches get fired or leave, that's going to
impact her decision. Now.
Speaker 3 (01:57:40):
She may want to stay at Rhode Island, and that's great,
but if she wants to move, I can't begruduate that.
You go for the players, you go for the coaches,
you go for the facility, you go for I wish
I could say it's the education.
Speaker 7 (01:57:52):
But well, but to the education point, and I really
want to hone onto this. There's been so many athletes
that I met that we're at a group of five
or even a very very small d one that ran
the times, that did perform and it got to a
better institution with a better education for that degree, so
they can move on when they got out of college.
It's just another way to upgrade yourself because maybe you
(01:58:13):
didn't get the grades in college, maybe didn't you get
there in high school. Maybe you didn't get everything you
wanted to do. You were late bloomer in high school.
You have a chance with the transportal to spread your
wings out, you know what I mean?
Speaker 1 (01:58:23):
Yep, yeah, I And by the way, they're not in there.
They're getting paid now.
Speaker 3 (01:58:29):
I mean the schools that are agreeing to this allowing
of athlete competition, the schools can directly pay the kids.
Speaker 1 (01:58:36):
Now, let's not hide that. So they are going to
I don't know, I don't know if it's tax free
or not. I don't I don't know. I think it's not.
Speaker 3 (01:58:43):
I think it's income ya.
Speaker 1 (01:58:46):
So they're employees.
Speaker 15 (01:58:47):
Now.
Speaker 1 (01:58:48):
Everything that we grew up thinking about the amateur status
and what a student athlete is is no longer in play.
It's just not And it may not be what it
you grew up watching. You may not like the trend
of it is.
Speaker 3 (01:59:04):
But I'm gonna tell you right now, there are gonna
be twenty football games this weekend that are gonna mean
a whole lot to a lot of football teams around
this country. And they're gonna have eighty five ninety thousand
seats stadiums full every single time around Michael and Roger
hank Tight will get to you. We got im a
dooka to join the final hour the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross. It's twelve fifty eight here on Sports Talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (01:59:24):
Thank you is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross one
O two Sports Jock seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:59:33):
Let's spend ten minutes with the head basketball coach of
your Houston Rockets knocking off the Suns here in Phoenix
last night.
Speaker 1 (01:59:39):
He made doka with us on the show. Coach, thanks
for the time. Uh, let's do this.
Speaker 3 (01:59:45):
Let's evaluate Dylan Brooks smack to you during the game.
You chuckled one time. Can you tell us what was
said or is it for non radio show purposes?
Speaker 1 (01:59:54):
No, that was all me.
Speaker 13 (01:59:56):
It was me mess on Dylan.
Speaker 14 (01:59:57):
Uh, just talking a little bit in real and uh
that was when he laughed.
Speaker 13 (02:00:01):
It basically what I said.
Speaker 14 (02:00:02):
He might have thought that was serious, but you know,
we got a lot of love and respect for each other.
Just giving him a little bit to the to the
Stephen PLoP.
Speaker 3 (02:00:13):
You know what he said, y'all were flopping yesterday. I
don't believe it for a second. Y'all pull and tug.
It's what the NBA lifestyle is all about. Them all
for congratulations on the win last night you had to
go with a different lineup. A thought or two about
Aaron Holliday Man. Every time you call his number for
extending minutes, he's come through for you.
Speaker 14 (02:00:31):
No, I've said it, and now stop that. He's a
thounsen and prow a guy that always stays ready, works
extremely hard, and no matter when it's been in these
last years, whenever called the bomb. To your point, he's
always ready, plays multiple roles, multiple positions, and does a
little bit of everything as far as defending, storing, initiate offense,
(02:00:52):
and so he's been.
Speaker 1 (02:00:52):
Great for us.
Speaker 3 (02:00:54):
Last night, you didn't start the jumbo lineup, but you
went to it a little bit during the second half.
Do you watch this and the season progresses, do you
find yourself kind of curious to throw the jumble one
up in there to see what it does when you
don't normally think you'd put it in the in the
play during the course of the game, And how much
of it is feeling, how much of his Hey, let's
try something different.
Speaker 14 (02:01:16):
Oh, I think there's something that works really well for
us consistently, and so we're going to go to that
pretty much every game. There's some non conventional ups out
there that you think we would not use it against.
But you know, we can go to our zone there
and then scenes we are going to eat this kind
of upside. So that's our physicality or downside to create mismatches.
But if we do what we do on the offensive end,
(02:01:36):
take care of the ball and then say, you know,
good zone with communication and activity, we'd kind of combat
any line up that's out there.
Speaker 3 (02:01:43):
You have had to go a little bit deeper into
the rotation with the injuries popping up. What'd you see
from JD Davison with his eighteen minutes? Things you liked
and things that you would like to see improved.
Speaker 14 (02:01:53):
Yeah, I mean he's hit in very well. He's another
guy that we're very confident in and obviously numbers punted
minutes at certain positions. So with the air and not
being able to get minutes every night with more fully healthy,
it's obviously JD's and behind him as far as that.
So the guy that's had a really good preseason, dominant
in the G League, and we see that carrying over
(02:02:14):
into the games, and so he kind of hit the
ground running. You know, handles the playing are very well,
guard upward, guard down.
Speaker 1 (02:02:23):
I think he's just.
Speaker 14 (02:02:24):
Sitting and go with the other guys, and so having
him out there with Rider Aaron was great. Another guy
that can handle and like I said, he got bigger
guys and so I had a very impressive night.
Speaker 4 (02:02:33):
Rockets head coach Imo Adoka was just here on a
sports Talk seven to ninety. A bit of a quiet
night for Recepherd offensively, but just from my untrained I
looked defensively like he was holding his own.
Speaker 3 (02:02:45):
Teams look for him. What are your conversations with him
as far as the defensive side of the ball, where
you know that there are teams that are going to
try to exploit his defense. He's going to have to
be ready for that. I know you've run some zone
with him as well, and what have you seen from
him on that end of the floor.
Speaker 14 (02:03:00):
Well, first of all, you know, we want to take
him to take the challenge, and I think he's done
that and improved his physicality during the ball this year,
and so in general, I think you know, it doesn't
matter with him or Aaron or somebody else that's more
seasoned than even stronger, there's going to be some size
advantages and disadvantages regardless, and we could scheme up things
to you know, get heads and certain things that we.
Speaker 13 (02:03:19):
Did against Booker last night.
Speaker 14 (02:03:21):
But you know, he's he's taking on the challenge this year,
night and day.
Speaker 5 (02:03:25):
From last year.
Speaker 14 (02:03:26):
More competent, more physical, more aggressive and understanding assignments.
Speaker 13 (02:03:30):
And so he's great there.
Speaker 14 (02:03:31):
But even with that, offensively, you know, he just missed
shots and that he normally makes and so he don't
we don't equate a bad night just to miss the shots.
He's still ran to pick and roll very well, made
a ton of great passes and got us into what
we needed to.
Speaker 3 (02:03:45):
Is that a Men Thompson eurostep mid range becoming one
of the most difficult shots for opponents to stop right
now in the NBA.
Speaker 14 (02:03:54):
Yeah, I mean it seems wanting to give up home
to him because of his pace and athleticism, and you
know he has the change the pace there and it
can stop on the dime and make that awkward shot.
So and since you know, you keep giving up ground
and he keeps eating up the space and he elevates
and he's so high over the him or whatever, and so, yeah,
a very unique player and the things he does as
things he can't teach, but he's more confident in the
(02:04:16):
jumper knocking down the midrange. They're going to step up
a little bit and can get to that much easier now.
Speaker 1 (02:04:21):
I know the three point shot is something he's still
trying to work on, and it feels like he's been
a little more selective, especially since earlier this season.
Speaker 3 (02:04:31):
Was that something that is his just knowing where he
is on the floor. Is it something you've talked to
him about. I don't think you need him necessarily to
shoot five or six a game, but if that becomes
something where he give knocked down one or two for
you every single night, it will certainly open up your
spacing on the offensive side.
Speaker 14 (02:04:47):
Yeah, we want him to be aggressive, but also understand
that take the shot that you want, not the shot
that the opponent wants you to take it. So just
because they're you know, shifting off and trying to beat
you in the sun shots, you can still slash back door.
He does very well still attack the closeout, like I said,
eating up that space and be confident when the shot
presents itself. And so he's been been much better in
(02:05:09):
the corners and we encourage him to take those above
the break, we wanted to move and get to his
spots a little bit to the corner or the dunker
spots a little bit more to move the defense around.
But when it's presented, take the shot confidently, but also
don't fail teams out by taking that taking when you
want it and attack when you when when they closed
out short.
Speaker 3 (02:05:27):
Last year obviously was a knockdown, drag out seven game
series with Golden State. They're going through some injury concerns,
just like you are right now. What have you seen
on tape and early thought about playing the Warriors tomorrow night.
Speaker 14 (02:05:41):
Yeah, I mean there's they've had some ups and downs
due to those injuries guys in the lineup, like a
lot of the league right now. But still, you know,
decent record with with the injuries and the and the
set backs that they've.
Speaker 1 (02:05:52):
Had, and so always a challenge.
Speaker 3 (02:05:54):
You know, they got a guy over.
Speaker 14 (02:05:56):
There that that makes that possible with Curry and playing
the way he is and obviously add butlet to the
mix as well. So we'll prepare for them and if
they're going to be whole and regardless, we hold ourselves
to the same standard regardless of in for us, as
you saw last night, and so no different on our end,
expect to going there for a hard flot game and
you know, going to this thanksgetting break with the win.
Speaker 4 (02:06:18):
You talked about wanting the guys to obviously with the
ball movement be very important important and playing for each other.
And I think probably the best passing team or one
of the best passing teams I can remember, it would
be that twenty fourteen Spurs team that you were an
assistant on. Do you ever talk about those teams or
show tape of those teams and bring it to your
(02:06:38):
team about just when it comes to everybody passing and
being unselfish.
Speaker 14 (02:06:44):
Yeah, I mean we always and I may not talk
specifically about that team, but we're always hopping on making
the right play, making the simple play and you know,
good to great for the next guy. And so the
more we can do that, especially with the double teams
that Kevin and Ilpi draw, I think it's difficult to
guard and the randomness as far is that, and so
the sense we want to get into, but there's also
going to be those situations where you just and drive
(02:07:05):
and kick them ode. And when we get to that,
I think we've been really good because we've got multiple guys,
I can do it.
Speaker 1 (02:07:11):
You may thank you for the visitors.
Speaker 3 (02:07:12):
Always don't leave without me in a few minutes, and
I will look forward to Moron night's game against the
Warriors and go up with San Francisco.
Speaker 1 (02:07:17):
Thanks for the time. As always, I appreciate you guys.
I will see you May Doka with us here on
the Matt Thomas Show with Ross, Rockets and Warriors tomorrow

Speaker 17 (02:07:42):
Hey Man, good lave with the Rockets the night man
and say travels Hey a couple of things, man. I
got a gut feeling for the Texans. Man, Texans win
the division this year. It's just in my gut something
tells me that a couple teams ahead of us are
gonna fall a little bit short man. Second off, I
just wanted to be the first one to say congratulations
to the newest UFC flyweight champ, josh Van. He's gonna
(02:08:03):
beat Alex Pintoja on December sixth at USC three twenty three.
Speaker 15 (02:08:09):
He's a bad man.
Speaker 17 (02:08:09):
If you don't follow the UFC, you should also want
to tell you, Matt, we've got a lot of great
fighters in htown.
Speaker 1 (02:08:15):
Man, so making a segment on the show. Let's get
these guys on the show. Man.
Speaker 11 (02:08:19):
It's it's great to have some usc REP representation on
the show.
Speaker 3 (02:08:23):
So you're gonna be listening at one at one today, Michael.
I'm just curious, just curious about absolutely all right, We'll
see you later. Thank you, Michael, about that. By the way,
we didn't nick names for ourselves, ROSSI do we not?
I mean, Joshua Van is the fearless one, Okay, I'm
totally in fear. That's what I call myself. Totally in fear,
(02:08:46):
totally Thomas, it's.
Speaker 5 (02:08:48):
A little wordy.
Speaker 3 (02:08:49):
What's wrong with peach basket?
Speaker 1 (02:08:51):
Heayyy?
Speaker 3 (02:08:54):
We got a bunch of nicknames for you, most of
them we can't say off air. I mean on air,
I'm not a great say are you using? I think
uh five diamond, Matt Fancy, Matt High horse Matt forty
eight ounces of coffee Matt mac and cheese Matt.
Speaker 7 (02:09:10):
Oh, forty eight ounces called the Matt. You know, just
forty eight ounces. That's it, full throat Thomas, Okay, what.
Speaker 1 (02:09:20):
Ley Ross t Jonathan? What you opened up the canon wall?
Speaker 3 (02:09:24):
You just opened up Easter analogy? Oh, mister analogy is
a good one. I still lost myself that one. Texans Insider,
mister Texas m h Manny McRib Manny, I kind of
like that way.
Speaker 1 (02:09:42):
You know what it is America sandwich? It is not
it is. If it was America sandwich would be on
the menu the full year. No, you know what it
is we the McRib is the what's that fish they
always serve as specials everywhere you go.
Speaker 3 (02:10:01):
Not tilapia, Yes, the dirt fish of no no fast
food world.
Speaker 1 (02:10:08):
Yeah, I think of tilapia something a mahi mahi. That's
what it is. That's what I was thinking of.
Speaker 3 (02:10:14):
It's the special that they're trying to get rid of
that's rotting in the back. Yes, actually because.
Speaker 1 (02:10:18):
So many, Because if you offered it twelve months a year,
no more would need anything but it, So you have
to make it a small.
Speaker 6 (02:10:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:10:24):
These restaurants don't want to make money. If they offered
it all year long, they would sell too many. It's ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (02:10:33):
You know what I will accept mad day mcgrib okay,
good NFL. Rewind is next right. You don't even have
it runny.
Speaker 3 (02:10:46):
That's not true. Actually, I actually normally nine times out
of ten you'd be correct. But I actually did prepare.
I got here. I don't know what got into me.
I got here a little early. I prepared my segments today.
Speaker 1 (02:10:54):
It's crazy. Joshua the Fearless van with us in about
to fifteen minute.
Speaker 3 (02:11:00):
That's here on Sports Talk seven eighty untet more or
the song more. But it's a time now for a.
Speaker 1 (02:11:19):
Sports RV institution. Fifth Beethoven. I would believe it. I
would guess, yes.
Speaker 15 (02:11:31):
It was.
Speaker 1 (02:11:31):
I think it was.
Speaker 15 (02:11:33):
So.
Speaker 1 (02:11:34):
I've had forty three ounces of coffee. I'm standing up
in my room right now.
Speaker 3 (02:11:38):
Number one YEP in nineteen to seventy six.
Speaker 1 (02:11:45):
Why don't we get our audience to go to a
disco tech and we can play this.
Speaker 3 (02:11:48):
I love disco music. You've got generally great singers, great songwriting.
Speaker 1 (02:11:55):
You're a gainer.
Speaker 5 (02:11:56):
You get you've get, you get the full band plus
you get.
Speaker 1 (02:12:01):
You can dance.
Speaker 3 (02:12:02):
It's it's very danceable, fun yep light.
Speaker 1 (02:12:06):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:12:06):
I used to when I was like in my twenties,
and you know, I thought I was cooler, and everybody's like, man,
disco sucks.
Speaker 1 (02:12:11):
Man, it's so dumb.
Speaker 4 (02:12:12):
But then you grow older and you're like, you know what,
disco is awesome. It's just feel good and you you
get the room. It's a room full of music. It's
a full band plus strings.
Speaker 1 (02:12:21):
It's amazing. And as a white person, I can dance
to it, and I'm very happy about that. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:12:26):
Just just point to your northwest, wit to your belt,
budd buckle, and then point to your northwest.
Speaker 5 (02:12:32):
You're good.
Speaker 1 (02:12:33):
You can shimmy. You can shimmy.
Speaker 3 (02:12:35):
Yes, that's as far as you can go. Yes, you
can hustle. I love it all right?
Speaker 1 (02:12:42):
How mud? How about the NFL?
Speaker 3 (02:12:45):
Rewind I I.
Speaker 1 (02:12:46):
Could talk thirty five minutes of disc You're a problem
with that. Disco needs to come back, all right?
Speaker 4 (02:12:53):
Well, actually, let's talk about a quick news item of
what we mentioned yesterday. Just in m Tucker trying out
for the Saints on Tuesday after Blake groupie or group
whatever missed a couple of field goals against the Falcons. Unfortunately,
he was well for him, I guess maybe fortunate to others.
(02:13:16):
He was not signed by the New Orleans Saints, who
are going with Cad York signed to their practice squad
following the tryouts on Tuesday. So if you're in the
Justin Tucker fan club, which I know you are, Matt.
Speaker 1 (02:13:31):
Just kidding.
Speaker 3 (02:13:33):
He did not get signed by the New Orleans Saints.
So he's still looking for work, yes, and still looking
apparently for that just that right spot for a massage,
because he's been trying a bunch of different places in
the Baltimore area.
Speaker 1 (02:13:45):
Didn't find anything to his satisfaction, or maybe he found
too many players pretty satisfaction.
Speaker 3 (02:13:50):
Hey, he got satisfied and got out of town. Is
that what we got satisfied?
Speaker 1 (02:13:53):
Too much?
Speaker 5 (02:13:54):
That's the issues? H He started missing kicks.
Speaker 1 (02:13:58):
Do you ever go to get a massage ross and
it just does it feel great? I don't know.
Speaker 4 (02:14:01):
I've never had that issue I've had I've only done
one massage and it was great. And actually I'm gonna
start doing it again because I'm see this is Ye're
the worst. I'm just getting in my forties now, and
I wake up and all my hamstring hurts, and I
wake up all my back hurts, my lower back, all
my upper back, like I need to start stretching and
getting messages regularly. It's just it's this is getting out
of control. I'm getting too old. I'm down with I'm
(02:14:24):
on team.
Speaker 3 (02:14:24):
Massage, saying me too too old.
Speaker 5 (02:14:26):
He shut up.
Speaker 3 (02:14:28):
Actually, you probably have more miles on your legs than
I do. So the leg part, yeah, some people have
more miles off. He ran track. He's got more miles
than me, and.
Speaker 1 (02:14:43):
I haven't walked a lot of my life.
Speaker 3 (02:14:44):
I ran from the kitchen to the couch, I walked
to the drive fod to the restaurant exactly.
Speaker 4 (02:14:51):
I walked to the garage to get to my car.
So I'm sure you've probably literally got more miles on
your legs than I do. But anyways, all right, Matt,
how about some Hall of Fame semi finalists named five
newcomers among the twenty six modern era candidates.
Speaker 1 (02:15:12):
All right, you're gonna give me the list, and I'm
gonna tell you at least one that shouldn't be in that.
Speaker 4 (02:15:16):
Okay, go, let's well, I don't have the yeah, I
can pull it the fullest. Then let me bring you
the new guys. First new to the game would be
Drew B.
Speaker 1 (02:15:28):
Brees.
Speaker 3 (02:15:29):
Yep, it's just an inner out.
Speaker 1 (02:15:31):
I guess.
Speaker 3 (02:15:31):
I don't know Drew Brees in, Philip rivers In, Frank
gore In he's like third all time in rushing I
know in I know he blew off the show Larry Fitzgerald.
Speaker 1 (02:15:50):
If Andre Johnson's in Larry Fitzgerald, it's not even close
to me in Jason Witten, Wow, he doesn't come to
mind to me. But my guess if you look at
receiving yards and without looking I think he's like top
five all time receiving yards. He's he's I believe he's
(02:16:15):
number one in tight ends right or up there maybe two.
My guess is if I took one minute to look
at his numbers, I would say.
Speaker 5 (02:16:25):
But I mean, he's kind of an accumulator.
Speaker 4 (02:16:27):
You know how Curtis Martin's one of the top rusher
all time leading rushers. But you're nobody was ever like,
oh my god, Curtis Martin's the greatest in the game.
Speaker 1 (02:16:36):
Nobody we created a dream team. How many years would
how many players would it take for us to get
to Jason Witten as our tight end.
Speaker 3 (02:16:43):
Okay, you know what, He's not as high as I
thought he's. He's twenty first, he's ahead of Travis Kelcey,
Mike Evans.
Speaker 5 (02:16:52):
You know what, I thought Jason Winen was higher.
Speaker 1 (02:16:54):
Let me just give you.
Speaker 3 (02:16:54):
I thought he was like, it's just me talk off
the top of my head here, Kellen Winslow, Yeah, Dick,
Antonio Gates, Tony Gonzales. Gonzales, Uh Sharp, you put in there?
Speaker 1 (02:17:08):
Oh, Shannon Sharp, Travis Kelravis Kelcey, I mean there's six right, wrong.
Speaker 3 (02:17:15):
Gronk eleven time Pro Bowler?
Speaker 1 (02:17:19):
Remember a limit?
Speaker 3 (02:17:20):
So it's not your kicking people out? Yeah, I would
say maybe not first ballot, then eleven. I thought his
resume was a little bit better than I thought. We
Eleven time Pro Bowl is nothing to sneeze at. Two
time first team All Pro and thirteen thousand receiving yards.
He's around Steve Largent, Travis Kelcey, Mike Evans, Irving Fryar
(02:17:40):
Art Monk, DeVante Adams.
Speaker 1 (02:17:42):
He's getting it won't be right away.
Speaker 3 (02:17:44):
Yeah, you know what, I'm gonna put him on the
We'll put him on the shelf.
Speaker 1 (02:17:46):
For a year.
Speaker 3 (02:17:47):
All right, Adam Vinteri is back on the list. What
do you think about him? I think he should be
in right in? Okay?
Speaker 4 (02:17:55):
The the wide receiver crop is interesting. Tory Holt, Steve
Smith Senior out, hind toward out easy out for me?
Reggie Wayne.
Speaker 1 (02:18:11):
Lord against the Texans in.
Speaker 6 (02:18:15):
Hey.
Speaker 3 (02:18:16):
Earl Thomas is on this list? Who is hook come
Horn's baby? Earl Thomas, Rodney Harrison, Darren Woodson, the three dbs? Yeah,
Earl Thomas, legendary Longhorn and Seahawk dB in.
Speaker 1 (02:18:29):
Who the other two?
Speaker 5 (02:18:31):
I don't know about her?
Speaker 3 (02:18:32):
Earl Thomas is fringe for me, and then the Rodney
Harrison and Darren Woodson out in Hmm, Okay, I'm gonna
read you a couple others. How about Vince Wilford.
Speaker 1 (02:18:50):
Out.
Speaker 3 (02:18:51):
Luke Keigley's gotta be in?
Speaker 1 (02:18:53):
Are you sure?
Speaker 3 (02:18:54):
Terrell Suggs gotta be in. Luke Keigley retired young, but
his resume is pretty insane. Nonetheless, I think, look it's
five time, the hardest one to get into his football
for sure. Luke baseball or seventy five. So Luke Keigley
(02:19:17):
retired at twenty nine? Yeah, out eight years out however, out,
however out defensive Rookie of the Year, Okay, Defensive Player
of the Year and five time first Team All Pro.
Speaker 1 (02:19:32):
Give me the thirty one wint to talk about five
time first Team All PROO. All right, Gail Sayers says,
Terrell Davis thinks he's in.
Speaker 3 (02:19:43):
Earl Campbell thinks he's in.
Speaker 1 (02:19:44):
Yeah, right, you're right. And that was the NFL E one.
Let's talk some MMA next on eight of the Matt
Thomas Show with Ross, This is Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (02:19:54):
All right, Hey, did you catch the Crank Radio Network
call of the game against Baylor lielast night?
Speaker 1 (02:20:00):
Here was the big highlight from it.
Speaker 9 (02:20:04):
Into the pain with the dunk a fucking fowl.
Speaker 1 (02:20:08):
Why are you talking abouts? It was two seconds after
the planned car driving. He's outside the circle.
Speaker 9 (02:20:18):
He's outside the circle and he's set.
Speaker 1 (02:20:21):
He was outside the.
Speaker 11 (02:20:22):
Circle and he was set.
Speaker 1 (02:20:25):
Pratt Smith blew it. He was outside the restricted area.
He was straight up and down.
Speaker 9 (02:20:32):
He was set like the statue.
Speaker 1 (02:20:34):
Sitting out in front of New York, New York.
Speaker 11 (02:20:36):
And they called that.
Speaker 1 (02:20:38):
Cleft.
Speaker 9 (02:20:39):
It absolutely horse crap call in a game that's been
played out like this, unbelievable fail out call, fighting confident referee.
Speaker 6 (02:20:54):
And Paul don't lie.
Speaker 1 (02:20:58):
Ross heart to heart.
Speaker 3 (02:21:00):
If I did that, what would you say to me? Hey,
mat I heard your call last night. You lost your
damn mind in a foul call, you dropped the ball,
don't lie and a horsecraft and that's like, that's from
the heart too.
Speaker 1 (02:21:16):
He was fed up.
Speaker 5 (02:21:18):
That's so good, as you know, man, what makes play
by play?
Speaker 3 (02:21:24):
Guys who do play by if they're really into the
game and really not faking and forcing it in big
moments and screaming when they shouldn't and stuff like that.
Speaker 1 (02:21:34):
That was as genuine as it gets. And that wasn't forced.
I'll give the guy credit. That was had it. He
was pissed off.
Speaker 6 (02:21:41):
He was.
Speaker 4 (02:21:47):
Uh, he asked Gordy, I looked for the class. We
used to play it as a late night filler. I mean,
you're better than that, like mad, but you know classic.
We had a series of classic moments and rockets radio history.
Speaker 3 (02:22:01):
Then we would play you know, Geen Peterson losing his mind,
the clock wouldn't start in Utah and stuff like that,
like and I can't find them, So that's a Gordy question.
Speaker 1 (02:22:12):
We used to play that moment.
Speaker 13 (02:22:17):
Hmm.
Speaker 1 (02:22:18):
All right.
Speaker 3 (02:22:19):
By the way, we're waiting for an MMA guy. If
he calls the next few minutes, it's gonna be your interview.
Which you like MMA enough so you can sure. I
gotta I gotta fact sheet.
Speaker 1 (02:22:28):
Yeah we got let's go to Roger online two at
one five Roger terrible news for you. Can't be a
price today, I believe or not. We're not playing, so
I hope you're okay with that.
Speaker 12 (02:22:38):
That's fine, It's all good. No, no, no, I'm too
busy for prior today. Got to get these jobs done
for the holiday and then talk to you.
Speaker 2 (02:22:45):
So uh.
Speaker 12 (02:22:47):
Yeah, ROSSI uh, I just you can't be stopping at
you raged too much longer, my friend.
Speaker 15 (02:22:53):
Uh.
Speaker 12 (02:22:54):
We're perennial powerhouse in basketball, and that's you know, that's
more than what any Texas you can say about what
it was, what they're supposed to be good at. The
only thing ut Is did for is the Classics underachieving.
Yeah y'all, y'all get a championship. Then people move, we're
out and then we'll go again.
Speaker 6 (02:23:11):
Then we're out.
Speaker 12 (02:23:12):
So yeah, it's gonna be to where you know, we're
gonna not be so much so loppable a little while.
Speaker 3 (02:23:19):
But and maybe you can draw more than thirty thousand
in your football games. That'd be cool. Ye're working and
it's a work in progress that I'm working on the
last an't know, eighty years.
Speaker 12 (02:23:30):
We'll see this anyway. On the Rockets. Well, I did
not mind Dylan Brooks having a nice game like that. Uh,
you know, if it wasn't for him and Fred coming
in and being part of that culture change. And they
really did a lot for us as far as getting
that program, you know, program back on track, as far
as being taken seriously at least. And yeah, I just
(02:23:51):
thought that Dylan was a big part of that. And yeah,
I didn't mind you annex and all that stuff. But
it was cool to see, you know, I knew they
were and wins because now the kids are growing up
now and the other grown men now, right and you
see Alki and Jabbari and I'm in in and those
guys are like they're like laughing at him, like you know,
it's just like it's not a serious.
Speaker 13 (02:24:12):
As it used to be.
Speaker 12 (02:24:13):
And man, man and Reach Shepherd. Remember when I called
him in from before Steven started, I said that this
thing can only goes good as read Shepherd's progress, and uh,
I was already panicking and saying, hey, man, I think
you might be a band aid until Vafleet comes back
and YadA da YadA. And now look, this guy's just progressing.
(02:24:35):
And he didn't even really have a good game last night,
but still it's good enough to where you know, he
had some turnovers. Man, he can he can, he can
get the ball, he can get into your face, and
he can be at pets and then he can make
a pass and it's just like his crappiness. I guess
he's like a better version of Scottie Brooks, a little taller.
So yeah, man, I like where this is going. And
I just you know, you stay healthy and keep the
(02:24:57):
course and on the Astros fun looks like, uh, Pitcher
has already left to Boston. It's like one of the
pictures are already gone that we'll we're trying to get.
So I still here to make a move and I've
already got you down to utility players. They're trying to
get Brandon donov a minute, and I just don't think
that's gonna happen.
Speaker 1 (02:25:16):
I just don't think.
Speaker 3 (02:25:17):
Thanks Roger for the phone call rosson I just and
we talked to Brian mctagger about this last week. I
don't know if the Astros are gonna make any sort
of major splashy hires in the offseason.
Speaker 1 (02:25:25):
I just don't. Mmm.
Speaker 3 (02:25:30):
The splashy hire would be to get Hunter Brown and
or Jeremy signing.
Speaker 1 (02:25:35):
That's that's to me, would be the sexy thing to
do in this so I get both of them done.
Speaker 3 (02:25:39):
I don't Yeah, I don't think Dylan ceases coming justin
Verlander is going to be kind of a mid move.
Speaker 1 (02:25:47):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (02:25:49):
I mean, I've been surprised by Jim Crane before the
Josh going for the Josh Hater deal and going into
the tax was a surprise. And there was something more recently, right,
there was a surprise as well.
Speaker 1 (02:26:02):
Wasn't there was there a train at the deadline that
got him over there for a little bit. Was it
Urieus and or Sanchez going on? Maybe I can't remember.
All right, We're going to start a conversation here with
our next guest. He is a Houston guy.
Speaker 3 (02:26:18):
He is the number one UFC flyweight in the world.
He trains right here in Houston, Texas, and he is
going to be an action coming up on December the
sixth for UFC three twenty three on The Matt Thomas
Show with Ross, It's Joshua the Fearless Van. Joshua, It's
Matt and Ross. Thank you for coming on the show.
Speaker 1 (02:26:36):
How are you this morning? This afternoon?
Speaker 13 (02:26:40):
I'm doing great, sir.
Speaker 1 (02:26:41):
How you doing good?
Speaker 14 (02:26:42):
Hey?
Speaker 1 (02:26:43):
Take us through your life. You are eight and one
in the UFC. You got a five fight win streak.
What it got you into it? And how did the
city of Houston get you? Help you in your training
to be where you are right now?
Speaker 13 (02:26:59):
Well, I start I start my fighting career because you know,
I was fighting a lot in the street and things
like that. So you know, my auntie basically was like, hey,
why don't you fight for your country and you know,
your family and things like that. So that's when I
started to go to the gyms and you know, uh,
trying to fight on the state and things like that.
But uh, as far as my training, man, you know,
(02:27:21):
Foreign Fight Club has been helping me all my life.
So they've been doing great job of you know, helping
me prepare for every fight.
Speaker 1 (02:27:32):
And Joshua, you moved to Houston when you were a
young man with twelve or thirteen correct.
Speaker 13 (02:27:38):
Tour, Yes see.
Speaker 1 (02:27:39):
And what was that like when mom and dad said, Hey,
we're moving out of Southeast Asia to come to the
United States. And why did they choose Houston, Texas? Is
there any Is there a family here before that? Yeah?
Speaker 13 (02:27:52):
Uh yeah, we already have my uncle here, you know
what I mean. I was I was in Malaysia and
the camp and things like that. So you know, the
longly family we have was my uncle when he was here,
so you know what I mean. When when it was
time to come here, you know, they asked for like
the address of out of family members and things like that,
(02:28:14):
so this was the address that we used him. So
they sent us here and that was the best thing
that ever happened in my life.
Speaker 8 (02:28:20):
You know.
Speaker 1 (02:28:22):
Well, you're going to be in a big event UFC
three twenty three in Las Vegas on December the sixth.
You'll be taking on Help me out with his last
name Alexandra Pantoya. Is that how you pronounce it?
Speaker 5 (02:28:34):
Yes, they're Pentoja Pentosia.
Speaker 1 (02:28:37):
Okay. He is a very successful, distinguished career.
Speaker 3 (02:28:42):
Size up his strengths and what you think could be
a weakness or two when you find him on December
the sixth.
Speaker 13 (02:28:48):
I don't see a lot of weaknesses as of right now,
but you know what I mean, sometime what you see
on TV and when you finally get in the case
with them, is that completely different. So you know, come
fight day December sixth, on that night, I'll figure him out.
And you know what I mean, I was trying to
adjust to his styles and things like that, So yeah,
(02:29:11):
I'm gonna have to wait and see that night you
know of what he or what he's being to the
tables and things like that.
Speaker 3 (02:29:17):
Yeah, Joshua, I had the nickname I'm in total fear.
How do you get the nickname the Fearless?
Speaker 13 (02:29:25):
Well, when I started fighting, they called me the Savage
and I was like, I don't like the name savage,
So you know what I mean. I was trying to
look for any nicknames and things like that. So when
when I was watching the show called The Last Kingdom
and I see this guy name regularly the Pheelis, and
(02:29:48):
I was like, yeah, I really liked the feelings and
I was looking at my fighting styles and things like that,
So you know what I mean, I give myself that name.
Speaker 1 (02:29:56):
I think it probably works for you pretty well. If
you want to see the event, it's going to be
an ESPN pay per view on December the sixth at
UFC three twenty three.
Speaker 3 (02:30:05):
How long does it take you before wrap things up?
How long does it take you to prepare? How much
downtime do you get after a fight, and then when
do you have to ramp it back up? Knowing that
December six was on your calendar, they gave.
Speaker 13 (02:30:19):
Me what was the christ answer?
Speaker 5 (02:30:21):
Sorry?
Speaker 3 (02:30:22):
Just basically how much how much time in between fights
do you have to prepare? How much downtime do you have?
And and when do you start to ramp things up
when you know a new fights on your schedule?
Speaker 13 (02:30:34):
Yeah, well it depended, like if you look at all
my UFC career, like most of them are like the
short notice normalous. They gave me three weeks, two weeks
and sometime a week, so I'm just ready whenever they
call me, man. But for this fight, they gave me.
They gave me like four months in events of getting
(02:30:55):
ready for this fight, So that was plenty of time.
So you know that was we use that wisely, and
you know, I mean, this is the best Kim I
ever had.
Speaker 1 (02:31:06):
How is the four ounce Fight Club? Is there a
lot of future stars when you got when you work
out here in town.
Speaker 13 (02:31:11):
Yes, sir, there's a lot of guys that I come
up with. And you know there's another UFC fighter that
I come up with in the same loco scene. His
name is Michael aswell. And then there's another guy's named
Audun Korea. And you know, we got three other guys
that are there are going to be the USC fighters
pretty soon, so you know what I mean. We just
(02:31:34):
bringing up the young and can't wait.
Speaker 1 (02:31:38):
Joshua with the Juam I hope. So hey, have a
great trip to Vegas. Good luck representing the city of Houston.
Thank you for the time, and best of luck on
December the sixth. We appreciate you coming on the show today.
Thank you all right, thank you buddy. That's Joshua joining
us here on the radio program again. He will be
Joshua the Fearless Van.
Speaker 3 (02:31:57):
He will be in action on December the sixth, UFC
three twenty three, and it's kind of cool to have
a Houston.
Speaker 1 (02:32:02):
Guy in that event.
Speaker 3 (02:32:05):
Rosst's you the rest of the way, my friend. I'll
talk with you tomorrow from San Francisco, California for the
Rockets and the Warriors.
Speaker 1 (02:32:13):
Maddy mcribb signing out twelve forty four on Sports Talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (02:32:19):
Not exactly.
Speaker 4 (02:32:23):
Matt Thomas stealing off early traveling with the Houston Rockets
as they are now leaving Phoenix. They will be taking
on the Golden State Warriors on Sunday. Thanks to Joshua Van,
the UFC fighter, for joining us in the last segment.
(02:32:45):
You know what, he could really kick my ass and
put me into a pretzel. So I'm just gonna say
nice things about Joshua Van. We appreciate you, thank you
for making the time, and I hope he wins his
fight representing Houston.
Speaker 1 (02:32:55):
I went and looked it up.
Speaker 3 (02:32:56):
He is a plus one eighty five underdog in the fight, John,
which I don't think you bring that up to the fighter,
like what's the what's the betting line? I think I
don't think he really cares. He probably didn't care, And
the only way to make an upset is be an underdog.
That's what I'm talking about. That's how I'm calling it.
With the Houston Tech, how do you feel about me?
My gut feeling earlier today, Houston Texans pulled the upset
(02:33:16):
and the Texas Longhorns pulled the upset and upset weekend
coming up on Thanksgiving weekend in football here in the
great state of Texas. I think you're one and one.
Speaker 1 (02:33:25):
I think who am I going to be?
Speaker 15 (02:33:26):
Right?
Speaker 1 (02:33:26):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (02:33:26):
You already had the ages winning. Yes, I think Texas
and Colts. I think Texas got it, man, after that
defense showed out and how they rallied even with the
offensive line.
Speaker 3 (02:33:33):
They got the extra time off, You're getting c J.
Stroud back now, I don't want to do you.
Speaker 1 (02:33:37):
Are we saying c J.
Speaker 3 (02:33:38):
Stroud is fresh and ready to go or he needs
to clear the cobwebs out? What do we even say?
Speaker 1 (02:33:44):
I don't know. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (02:33:45):
Well, he's not clear four and a half point. He's
going to be fine. He's going to be cleared. He's
gonna play.
Speaker 3 (02:33:50):
Aaron Wilson reported yesterday that the expectation is he's going
to be able to play, so I'm not necessarily worried
about him being able to play. He's going to be
all right, And I think the Texans are going to
pull off the upset.
Speaker 15 (02:34:01):
I just.
Speaker 5 (02:34:03):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (02:34:06):
The Colts did lose last week to the to the Chiefs.
They barely pulled it off against the Falcons, and the
week before that they lost to the Steelers. They they
had a hot start to the season, but I'm I'm
just not convinced that they're going to be able to
keep it up. And maybe I'm just riding too high
off that Bills win and maybe I'm huffing the fumes
of recency bias with that nice victory over the Bills
(02:34:28):
on Thursday night at home with eight sacked, I mean,
if they sacked Jonathan, I mean, h Josh Jonathan Allen,
that's you, Josh Allen, And I called him Josh Allen
last week too. I'm getting by Jonathan and my Josh
Allen's mixed up John Josh Allen. If they sacked him
eight times, feeling pretty good about what they might be
able to do against Daniel Jones. But that is going
(02:34:49):
to be on the road indian app in Indianapolis this
week at noon, so we'll see what happens there. As
I mentioned, matt off on not on holiday, just leaving
a little bit early.
Speaker 1 (02:34:59):
With the Rock.
Speaker 3 (02:35:00):
They got the win last night against the Phoenix Suns.
They're on a four game road trip right now taking
on Phoenix and then now they're taking on the Golden
State Warriors tomorrow and then a couple of games in Utah.
Then they get off Thursday, Friday and Saturday, three days off.
I actually should have asked matthis are they gonna go?
They don wouldn't go straight to Salt Lake City, right,
(02:35:22):
NBA players. I think that's like thirty out of thirty
Salt Lake City as far as the cities they would
want to hang. Are they gonna come all the way
back home? A lot of times when they get three
days off, they might come home and then go back
to Utah. Really, you can do that when you're flying private.
I mean, if you come back Wednesday night, you're gonna
have Thanksgiving with your family, then Friday, then leave Saturday
to Utah and then go to the back to back
on Sunday and Monday.
Speaker 5 (02:35:42):
That's probably what they they would do if I would
have had to guess.
Speaker 3 (02:35:45):
But a nice win by the Rockets yesterday one fourteen
to ninety two over the Phoenix Suns. I'm calling it
a big three. I just am Kevin Durant, alpringching gun
Amen Thompson. What's up already.
Speaker 4 (02:35:58):
What's up, Kevin Durant, that's one of the greatest players
of all time. Albrynching Gun was an All Star last
year and he's been better this year. Didn't even really
one of the questions I wanted to get to me
a Doka. We thank to him for interviewing with us
earlier on the show. You can catch it at sports
Talk seven to ninety dot com. The podcast page is
about uh albrynching Goon. Now, he's not taking a ton
(02:36:19):
of threes, but he is shooting like forty four percent
from three this year. He is a career twenty three
excuse me, twenty nine percent three point shooter. He shot
twenty three percent last year. That's not going to keep up.
But he's also he's shooting three a game and shooting
forty four percent.
Speaker 13 (02:36:38):
Uh uh.
Speaker 3 (02:36:38):
If that can continue, he's just going to be flat
out unstoppable because he does have issues sometimes dealing with
the bigger, bulkier centers. We saw against Jonas Vanleen Chiunis
and Nicola Jokic on Friday, he struggled. He only shot
six or fourteen from the field, so he is going
to run into some roadblocks there. But if he can
continue to shoot three. The three is the way that
he is and have defenses respect that he's and he's
(02:37:01):
already been. He was an All Star last year. You're
an All Star, you're part of a big three, and
then and then a Men Thompson First Team All Defense,
and he's averaging like eighteen nineteen points a game this year.
Speaker 1 (02:37:12):
So I'm going with it. Big three.
Speaker 3 (02:37:14):
Houston Rockets, what's up? You're gonna try to fight me
on that?
Speaker 7 (02:37:19):
I just, I mean, I just I feel like, for
a man, it's a little too early with all the turnovers.
Speaker 3 (02:37:26):
And I was there at the Orlando game. He had
a horrific game. He was not And I just don't
feel like if you're gonna a big three, they have
to be all three efficient, like eighteen points, such rebounds,
five assists, First team All Defense, alprinchinggun and All Star
Kevin Durant one of the greatest players to ever walk
the planet. Rockets have a big three?
Speaker 1 (02:37:45):
What's up?
Speaker 3 (02:37:46):
And we lost to Okay?
Speaker 7 (02:37:47):
See yes, Sanroy, Detroit and Denver argue the top four teams.
Speaker 3 (02:37:54):
Right now in the league. Not an embarrassing loss among
the bunch for the Rockets. All right next game on
Wednesday here on Sports Talk seven ninety as they take
on the Golden State Warriors. And that'll do it for
the Matt Thomas Show with Ross without Matt Thomas for
the last segment here on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 4 (02:38:09):
Ninety, Ross via Reale saying thank you so much for
listening to the program. I do appreciate you making time.

(02:38:30):

Speaker 3 (02:38:33):
They call themselves the A Team, and they're coming up
next here on Sports Talk seven nineteen
