Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning. It is a Monday edition of The Matt
Thomas Show of Ross. This is Sports Talk seven ninety YEP.
I heard it in your voice last night. I listened
about ninety percent of the post game show.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
It was so sad me too. The freaking Golden State
Warriors again again. I told you I didn't want to
face them. I told you you told him I did,
CITY said I did. I want no Golden State. Well,
some people wanted to slay the dragon. I know they

(00:34):
air quoted it, but I want to kick their ass
right now. Well, the dragon burnt you to ash again
like the good I want the good dragon like in Shrek. Okay,
I got the bad dragon instead. I got the buddy
heel dragon. Twelve twelve of fifteen buddy freaking healed three.

(00:57):
I mean, my God could not miss and was unguarded
for a lot of those attempts threes. But the biggest story,
Matt to me, twenty three of fifty five in the paint.
That's forty one point eight in the paint. It was

(01:19):
also driving me crazy.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Among many things last night was the Rockets couldn't get
into their offense with until about eight in the shot clock.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
No, they were standing around, or they're tentative. I don't
want I don't want to use the word shook. Not
there for the moment that can happen in game sevens,
of course, Yeah, I think it happened in moments. I
think I don't think fatigue was an issue. I think
it was you know what, Steph and Draymond and who

(01:50):
else is a veteran among that group, Jimmy Butler. Jimmy Butler.
I mean, they've all been into at least five Game
sevens in our life. They know what it's like. That
was a Game seven for the first time for I'm
guessing everybody not named Fred Van Bleied and Jalen Green
I mean in Dylan Brooks maybe maybe, yes, maybe Steven Adams, Yeah,
I mean maybe Jeff green Well, Jeff mean Jeff, but

(02:11):
it was me Thomson's first Game seven. He was great,
he showed up. You know how people literally love Josel Tuve, Yes,
I literally love him and Thompson. You and I argued
about this, not are you we just debated. I'm go
go ahead and say it untouchable even with Giannis involved. Yeah,
I said it time, hold me, hold me to it.

(02:33):
That's fine, hold me to it. Well, I'm gonna guess
that a man's not gonna win two m vps, so
I will say not untouchable for the right price, but
for the most part, untouchable. Yeah, well of course. I mean,
if you were putting a list of who's not grabbable,
you can't go grab him. That's he's on the very
top of the list. Yeah, like your your wife is
untouchable unless prime Margo Roby shows up. Yeah, actually pre

(03:00):
facelift shows up Scarlett Johansson. But you get my drift.
That's right. If you want to trade me my wife
for Scarlett Trehanson, Kim, it's been a good run, but
this is probably not happening. Yes, I think. Look, if
you want to say he's untouchable, I get it. But
you're hoping he grows into the player that Yiannis already is.

(03:21):
Defensive Player of the Year and two time MVP plays
in these positions, guards.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
For positions, rebounds, blocks, amazing defense. I wouldn't touch high
basketball IQ for Kevin Durant, No, thank you for even
for Devin Booker. I mean, we're gonna have to see
what else is getting given up. But I mean, yeah,
I'm with you for or mostly on the same page.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
I get it.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
I get it.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Twenty three of fifty five in the paint and Alpi
made All Star season. The best part of Alpi's game
has got to go away. He Yeah, he's only twenty
two years old.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
He led the team in this series in points, rebounds, assists, steals.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
He was great for the most part. But the shooting
absolutely be a huge part of a successful future Rockets run.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
I'm not going to die. Yeah, the shooting percentages have
to go up. They've gone up for They've gone down
for three straight years. He's got to get the strength
and conditioning up. He has to shoot better, especially in
those short area you know, bunnies whatever you would call it,
push shots, hook shots. He shot forty five percent from
the field for the series, and I got to say,

(04:38):
what eight his shots are within ten feet right for
a six He took eight threes one hundred and thirty
one to out of one hundred and thirty one field goals.
So it wasn't like he was just bombing threes. You cannot,
as a six foot eleven big man who's supposed to
dominate in the middle shoot forty five percent for a
seven game series. He has to be better than that. Yeah,

(05:00):
this is gonna sting for a while. Game seven's just
by its nature are hurt. I mean, you're down three
to one and you get Game seven at home, you
got them on the road. You go a tired cisco
on Froddy ROSSI and beat them and there and the
Warriors just completely gassed and out of it, and then
Buddy healed happens. I mean, my goodness. And you had

(05:23):
Steph played forty five thirty Jimmy played forty four forty one.
I mean I thought they I thought after playing forty
two minutes each in Game number six, they would have
had nothing left from the tank. They were gonna jump
on a plane, fly the four hours back here. Rockets
had the home court energy, good buzz, red shirts everywhere.
Well you get the series bag laying on empty seats.

Speaker 4 (05:45):
No, they were.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
They was better. I think you were a little. I
will show you a picture I took.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
But I mean, but by the mid first quarter I
looked around, there was very few empty seats.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
I will give. I will give the Rockets crowd an
a minus.

Speaker 5 (05:58):
What is it?

Speaker 2 (05:58):
An a like Toronto gives in Chicago a's, New Yorker
a's that was a minus, a minus, p plus whatever.
But point being is, as the game was progressing, just
like in my call of the game, we all kept
waiting first. I mean, the crowd was ready to get
energized and fired up. And you didn't have to use

(06:19):
the scoreboard or the PA announcer or somebody else to
get you going. They were just chance.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
It was, hey, let's we're ready to explode, get loud,
get behind the team, and then Buddy Heal would have
a left angle three or a right side three, or
Jimmy Butler was a baseline three with outburn in his
face with a shot clock going off.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
I mean, relatively speaking. Curry, now, I may got to
twenty two, but it wasn't like it was the prettiest
twenty two of his life. The last three games, Steph
Curry wasn't a huge difference maker in this series. And
you were able to survive it twice, and the third
time you were not able to Draymond Green with sixteen

(07:00):
point and I had sixteen points probably the previous any
of those games, it was it had his high water
mark of the series. I think it was you get
nothing from their bench. They're five beat. You're right, and
there's a name I think we've scarcely mentioned that we
have to get to. Is it the two guard?

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Jalen Green. I've already been on a Phoenix radio show
this morning, the Jalen Green problem.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
How big is it?

Speaker 1 (07:29):
We'll discuss next ten twelve. If you want to jump
into the conversation, youw ten o'clockers are always slow to
wake us, get waking up, woking up, waking up whatever.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
We're here.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
We're not going to whorld two o'clock to tell the
truth is at eleven thirty today seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven nine zero.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Let me give you the phone number again. I was
so happy you had so many calls yesterday, which makes
me sad that that they're there. But they only come
out when things are not great. We took calls for
an hour and forty five minutes. I was after midnight.
I was on j Was there like any postgame spread
for you to go get some neat or something drink? No,
that's fine. I got drunk after No, I didn't because

(08:07):
I had to be here, but I wanted to. I
know the show started noon.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
You you don't want to have an extramemverge to just
stayed up ten o'clock cages everything seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three, two, one
two five seven ninety's ten thirteen. It is a Matt
Thomas Show with Ross here in a Monday on Sports
Talk seven ninety ten nineteen. On Sports Talk seven ninety
it is the Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
Ross.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
We're gonna play some audio from the locker room throughout
the course of l Let you handle what you want
to play, because I know what I'm kind of hearing,
but it saysn't mean why our audience does not want
to hear it?

Speaker 2 (08:39):
And which different ways do you want to be depressed? Matt, Ummmm,
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
I was.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
I I usually It's funny because I usually leave the
arena fairly quickly as soon as games over, because we
had a quick turnaround for the show, and I turn
around go towards the UH parking garage. I actually walked
downstairs to the arena floor and said goodbye to a
few people here and there, and I didn't want to
leave for a while, and then I realized everybody was

(09:06):
just you know, you know, I could hear the celebration
from the Golden sit locker room. Was going to talk
to the press, and I thought, God, there's really nothing
else for me to say or do.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
I can't you know, I mean, I'll see everybody again,
but it's just this tough, tough Before the game, I
put a Ted Cruise tweet out. I got hatred on
both sides.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
I mean incredible, incredible hatred. You don't do politics, Matt,
I mean just vile, mean, awful thing said to me.
My favorite was the guy that was like, that's like
saying I was sitting in the middle of a hurricane
and saying I don't like rain. I'm like, that's exactly

(09:52):
the way. That's a perfect analogy, because you can't control
the hurricane.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
Oh it's And I had to actually had to stop
the reply because I was just like, I was being
called nasty, ugly, ugly things.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
Are you Are you aware of the Ted Cruz curse, Jonathan,
some way it becomes we lose. Yeah, basically, so Matt
was just saying, you know, hey, politics aside, we don't
care if you're left or right. We need Ted Cruise
out of the Builder.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
You know, Look, if you've listened to show for any
length of time where you've looked at my Twitter timeline, Look,
I do have political opinions. I just don't share them
because it's this is a show about lighthearted sports and fun.
I don't you go to politics. You go to Michael Berry,
you go to sports and goofiness, you go to me
and you. So I don't bring up politics because again
my philosophy is and I still aligned from Michael Jordan,

(10:39):
Republicans by shoes, tennis shoes too or b Yeah. So
I want as many people, regardless of their political affiliation
to listen to the show.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
So that's why I don't bring it up. And I
brought it up because Ted Cruise the curse, I mean,
it is what it is. I mean, he was in
not real it's not real. But the last time he
was at a game that I know, it was in
San Anton for the National Championship in my squad loss.
So I'm a little bit better towards that. Uh huh,
I understand. So I just put that out there and

(11:07):
it just it got super super ugly. And the thing
that made me happy was it got super ugly on
both sides. I was called horrific, terrible things by both
Republicans and Democrats. And that's why I once again said
to myself, man, it's just good to talk about sports
and life. I will say this for the one million

(11:28):
time and maybe never and again, there are three things
that will not talk about on this radio show.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
In particular. One is your religion. Two will be politics,
and three will be how to raise your children.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
Everything else we'll talk about beautiful women, sports, cars, cheesy music.
I listened to television shows. I watched All Fair Gametat
Linda Ronstadt, The Bachelor Movie, The Bachelor Movie, Airplane, the Astros,
Lance mccullors. I mean, I will do a lot of things,

(11:59):
but those things are not gonna happen on the show.
And I've kind of made a nice career for myself
kind of staying those three three things, and I'm gonna
stay with it. Our lane is sports, and we stay
in our lane.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
I'm with you, Matt, But I will say this that
that will be the absolute last tweet about it, last
cruise reference. So it's funny because one person said, man,
you you weren't bashing Biden like this, and I said,
or Trump and I said, now I've got you confused.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
Now I win what Yeah, it's it was.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
It was.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
And then this morning, after being called a variety of
things for people that, by the way, that don't follow me,
that are yeah, I just hate when a tweet gets
out of your bubble of your followers. So I just
put people only reply O people my followers. So that's okay,
a few thousand people. So it's yeah, I just less
than one hundred percent learn I'm a I het what
I am. I'm a sportscaster, I'm a dad, I like

(12:57):
to laugh a lot, I'm a dufist. It's fine, I'm
all those things. I'm not the voice of Houston's sports.
I'm not a political person.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
And once again for the nine million time, it proved
why because you get in there and you just you
get viciously treated by anonymous people and it it it.
It was not fun, It was not enjoyable to take.
And I thought it was kind of a lot harder
meeting like Ted crews don't come into me.

Speaker 5 (13:20):
I was.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
I mean, you.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
Guys know, there's Ted to go to one hundred sporting events.
He goes, he goes to one hundred sporting event he
goes to an Olklahoma City game, They're gonna win. I mean,
it's always about the competition. But then I had people saying,
imagine somebody a sports catch thinking that a politician showing
up is gonna make a difference in the game.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
I'm like, you're right, that's exactly my point. So that's it.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
On that, Let's go to some phones and we'll get
to the jail in green conversation. Can you might not
putting up one? Yeah, well let's talk to kJ on
seven nine, ten twenty four.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
kJ, good morning, more than fellas.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
That's usual, Lamar, always listening even if I'm not.

Speaker 6 (14:00):
Thank you very much real quick. Uh, you were my
you were my smart TV this week. This this what
this series. Uh, Matt, I worked nights, so I wasn't
able to watch the game. I had to listen to
it over the over the phone. So kudos to you.
An excellent job that you did.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
Thank you.

Speaker 6 (14:16):
Shout out to YouTube Broson Man. I know you caught
Hill doing that post game, so.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
But thank you. I thought, for the most part, for
the most yeah, go ahead, my man.

Speaker 7 (14:28):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (14:29):
Having listened to you guys over the years, I think
I know both of you well. Enough to know that, Matt,
there were several things you wanted to say during that broadcast.
When I would hear you saying yes that alone said.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
A lot, yeah, I I unfortunately, and I'll just feel
the curtain back a little bit. I pounded did this
a lot. I repeated myself multiple times, which I don't
like to do.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
But I was.

Speaker 1 (14:55):
Just like, because again forgetting about my responsibility is the
voice of the Rockets. I'm also a of the Rockets.
I mean, I grew up with the Houston Rockets. So
there was a lot of fandom that was pouring into
my voice as I was calling the game, and a
lot of frustration about Buddy Heal being open, a lot
of frustration about the points and the paint the like.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
Thereof a lot of frustration for a young man kJ
and Jalen Green, who I personally like, I personally have
seen some of his best moments. I thought Game two
for me watching him grow was this is the young
man that said, you know what, the game one, jitters
are out of the way, I'm going to come make
a difference in this series. But unfortunately, kJ And it's

(15:37):
back to you six of the seven games. That's not
a sample size. That's a resume right there, and that
was a tough tough thing to put on your resume.

Speaker 6 (15:50):
And I know that there's going to be a lot
of Jayalen Green criticism, and justifiably so. But let me
say this. I have two takes and I have a
question to close out what you guys for. But first
take is this.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
I hear a lot of people saying that he's young.

Speaker 6 (16:03):
He's literally, if not give or take a year, the
same age as Anthony Edwards. And you look at the
guys that came out of the draft with him. You
have Scottie Barnes, you have Kay Cunningham, you have someone
who no one matches, who balled out in the playoff
for his team, Franz Wagner with Orlando. All these guys
came out in the draft with him, and all of

(16:25):
these guys showed that they're the type of players who
can be built around.

Speaker 3 (16:29):
I'm not seeing that with Jalen Green. This is four years.
I literally looked at his stats.

Speaker 6 (16:33):
There's been a two point fluck two point flux in
his stats from his rookie year to right now.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
There's no growth there.

Speaker 6 (16:40):
And again I'm not saying Jayalen Green can't become that player.
But based solely off the numbers and what I saw
the series, he's not someone that can be relied upon.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
I'm not the Kevin Durant guy.

Speaker 6 (16:52):
I think getting the Kevin Durant with Steiny, whatever development
you have here. With that said, I expected more. You
look at Shangoon. Shangoon obviously came out that same draft
as Jalen Green.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
Shin Goon.

Speaker 6 (17:03):
Granted missed a whole lot of bunnies, but one thing
you couldn't question, which Shin Gooon this series was his
effort and with Jalen Green Green you can question that,
and that's what bothers me the most. If Jalen Green
were oh for eighteen in Game seven, at least I
can say as a fan, well, look, the guy was
doing what he could. It's not just weren't falling, but
for him to be a complete zero for six out

(17:23):
of the seven games really really put a bad taste.

Speaker 3 (17:26):
In my mouth.

Speaker 6 (17:27):
And my question to you guys, it's a two part question.
Part number one, where do you guys stand with the
quote unquote Kevin Durant talked? And question number two? And
I'm gonna let you guys have it. I thought during
stretches of this series when the offense wasn't clicking, you
have a bona fide bucket on the bench and Cam
Whitmore does he have his deficiency? Yes, but obviously other

(17:50):
players on the floor at deficiency too, or we wouldn't
have lost some of the games that we should have won,
even if it's just for a three or four minute
stretch here or there. Do you think that he may
should have at least given cam More some run? Seeing
how Cam Whitmore, I'll be whatever shortcomings he has, one
thing he is very good at.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
Is putting the ball in the hole.

Speaker 6 (18:07):
Do you think that should have been some Cam Whitmore
sidings during the series. Once again, love the show, guys,
stay still listening, keep doing what you do. I'm gonna
see a side of prayer for y'all. Speak of mind press.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
Yeah, thank you, rach Top, We appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
Well answer all those things coming back ten twenty eight
Sports Talk seven ninety is the Matt Thomas shold Ross
seven to one three two one two five seven nine
zero seven one three two one two five seven ninety
Well inswer those questions. We'll talk to Omar. We'll talk
to the rest of you until two o'clock. Today we
are open line. We only have one segment, which is
our Monday eleven thirty, which is to tell the truth.

(18:40):
We'll have that for you. We've got the news at
noon and believe it or not. Seven one three, two
one two five seven ninety.

Speaker 8 (18:47):
Miss shots, close range shots I think twenty three for
fifty five in the paint. A lot of really good
looks there didn't get up them many threes, only eighteen
on the night, eight six of them. So that's a
low number for the threes that we have been generally.
And then the zone that they ran got us a
little stagnant. And but when we did find the openings
in in the middle missed the threes would kick out

(19:08):
or the close range shots. And so as I said
the other night, sometimes shots going and makes it. They
masks some things, and tonight stood out the other way.
That's Emai Doka discussing that points into paint category twenty
three of fifty five. That's fifteen feet that's a painted

(19:28):
area that's from the free throw line in there were
some angles that were frustrating me. There were some jump
hooks that weren't falling. There was the fallaway jumper.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
I mean, and I'd be curious to see those numbers
from up until they scored fifteen points in the last
two thirty of the game in garbage time the game
was three. There were some three pointers of me too, exactly.
He talked about eighteen threes. They only had twelve going
into the fourth quarter. They had with two thirty one left,

(19:57):
they had seventy four points. Seventy four points. They finished
with eighty nine. But that's misleading that even some of
the paint makes that they had, that's misleading. And the
three point attempts, that's all misleading. Seventy four points were
two thirty one left.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
I mean, they were in the thirties shooting wise, and
they finished the game at forty one percent. So if
you take go let's say you put the first forty
four minutes on a box score.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
Yeah, if we could find that somehow, it would be
it would be markedly worse.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
All of those numbers all right to the point we'll
go to Omar in to second. Here, playoff rotations shrink
except for Golden State. But again they have no bench
relier to speak up to begin with I mean they
went eight players essentially yesterday. Actually the only they went
nine post played three minutes. Kaminga played seven, Moses Mooty

(20:47):
and Kavan Loon. He played a ten and eleven. So
it's you're you're not looking at equal time. I don't
know the real story about Cam went Moore except that
I believe can't. I believe Doka wants to put the
best players out there. I believe that what you produce
in practices, film, study, the time on.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
The floor, you'll get rewarded.

Speaker 1 (21:13):
I don't think there is a personal bias with them, Adoka, Coctorms,
Cam went More.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
I think I have to deduce.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
That there is a combination of things from jacking up
shots to not defending, to maybe not running the offense,
to practice habits. I don't know what it is, but
I'm going to deduce that Cam went More when he
does get on the court, he scores. But a lot

(21:42):
of that is in the non essential crucial parts. And
coaches like to put players in who can shoot, especially
for a team that has struggled as much as the
Rockets had this year in overall shooting.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
Yeah, if you think coach Udoka is smart, which I
think Coach Udoka is a good and smart coach. You
have to tell yourself if there is a reason Cam
Whitmore is not on the floor, and I think it
is because I think a key point you mentioned there
is that when Cam Whitmore is going off for twenty
points in fifteen minutes, it's usually in garbage time. It's
usually against the back end of somebody's bench. It's not

(22:15):
like he's going out there and starting games and dropping
thirty bombs. So he plays. He plays two out of
control on offense, he misses the defensive assignments. He's got
a bad attitude, and I think you add all that
up and coach Udoka did not want to trust him
in a seven game series against a really good team
with a really good smart coach.

Speaker 1 (22:34):
Golden State is smart. They're old, but they're smart. Draymond
Green is their only legit center.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
Kavala Looni plays a little bit here and there, but
in the crunch of the most important moments of games,
Draymond Green is six feet six and he and he
was locking up sitting Doon for a lot of the
slack step Shingoon Jabari Smith could not get to the lane.
Very often he was ling up and hitting the mid range,
or at least trying tempting the mid range. Tari Easan

(23:03):
couldn't finish much of the basket either. Yeah, that's another
thing we do have to give credit to the Warriors. Yeah,
they did great. They adjusted well to the zone Buddy
Healed finding pockets open in that zone and as the
rockets were over helping on Steph Curry. That's what allowed
Buddy Heel to be as free as he was in
those zone minutes. Yeah, seven one three, two, one two

(23:27):
five seven ninety Oh uh.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
kJ was asking about the Kate the Durant. They're gonna call,
They're gonna talk to each other, phone call, phone conversations,
will be happy. Oh, I mean, I don't think that's
even necessarily a secret. And not that again, not the
Raffel stones. The only thing that Rafel's Over ever told
me that I was worthy of repeating on air was
that he's got in his mind to two or three untouchables,

(23:51):
which I think you guys can deduce who that would be.
And number two I'll listen. Yeah, he should excuse the pun.
He will not leave a stone on He will because
sometimes general managers. It makes me strange, y'all. Sometimes gyms
won't even take the call. They're like, look, I got
to worry about other things. They're gonna sit back and
maybe not necessarily today, but they're going to be depressed.

(24:13):
They're gonok at the season. They're going to say, we
were our strengths war weaknesses. Do we stay with what
we are, which is which we build the draft. We
have all these young players that are a lottery pick,
maybe even a really good lottery pick if anyone happens
next week. They're all twenty five and younger. Can they
grow together or do you go to the route of
going to get an aged veteran whomever that may be

(24:35):
potentially ruining your salary cap, potentially ruining giving up major
draft picks, and going all in.

Speaker 2 (24:42):
There are examples.

Speaker 1 (24:43):
I was on a Phoenix radio show this morning driving
to work, as a matter of fact, and they admitted
they said, look, we went all in. We went all
in on Bradley Beal, we went all in on Kevin Durant,
and look at us. Now, we've got no draft picks.
We're sitting salary cap hell, and we don't know who
the hell we are And I said as they were saying,
and I said, guys, I don't feel that here in Houston, Texas.

(25:04):
And that's why you have to Legitimately, it'll be a
room with Rafelstone, It'll be Medoka, it'll be Patrick Fartita,
who's now kind of running the day to day because
Dad is now the ambassador to Italy. But I'm sure
Timan will be involved in the conversation as well, and
they're gonna say, how'd you like this season?

Speaker 2 (25:20):
Who can we trust? Are we one player away? That's
the number one thing that that room. If you were
to build a book report, you know, I always put
a big title in the front of your book report
are we one player away? That's what everybody has to answer. Yeah,
the team needs to grow and get better, and the
the question is does can we do that without a
huge external move? And you mentioned Phoenix being in cap

(25:41):
hell this we've talked about Giannis. Milwaukee's in the same boat.
Milwaukee's in a Belwaukee went all in with Giannis and
making the trade for Dame Lodard. They've got no picks,
they've got a hugely poke, they've got a horrible cap situation.
They went all in and they were a five seed
year in the futures looking bleak, and they're looking to

(26:02):
move Jannis. And so when you make that type of
move for Kevin Duran or for whoever, and you go
all in, you have to ask yourself, why is that
guy available? Gianness is available because there just wasn't enough
help around him. If you trade all the good help
around him to get Jannis, he's in the same boat here.
So that's what you have to figure out.

Speaker 1 (26:21):
I will also say this, and I don't know exactly
how much maneuvering Boston will do or have to do,
but they've also they're also.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
In a very bad salary cap situation. Now they're a
little bit different.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
They're about to play in the Eastern Conference semifinals and
are probably a significant favorite to beat.

Speaker 2 (26:39):
The New York Knicks. Do they just get purchased? They did.

Speaker 1 (26:43):
I think they're the most expensive team now there was
the most expensive purchase and maybe in NBA history, I think.

Speaker 3 (26:50):
So.

Speaker 1 (26:51):
They've got a lot of guys on their payroll that
are significantly expensive. We're talking about Drew Holliday and Al
Horford and chrisps Porzingis. I think they're already locked in
with Tatum and Brown long term, but they're gonna be looking.
Everybody is looking for a little relief because those aprons
and those those tax penalties are significant and everybody. It's

(27:15):
strange as it is to say this. Everybody's also looking
to replenish the draft too, because if you do it
on the cheap and you win.

Speaker 3 (27:21):
I e.

Speaker 1 (27:22):
Oklahoma City, although that the shake Gildes Alexander was a
huge deal with them. With the Clippers, I mean, you
don't want to be Philadelphie. Look at Phildelphia. Is all
the money they spent. Look at the Clippers right now?
Do you think the Clippers you think there? Do you
think their future in their world is bright? Today you
got another playoff Game seven from James Harden.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
Speaking of somebody that went all in. They went all
in with Kawhi, James Harden and then Paul George. Yeah,
how's that going for him? Norm Pals and cheap.

Speaker 1 (27:48):
I mean, this is gonna be as active of an
offseason as we've had probably in a long time, and
it's gonna be about teams that were really good or
on the cusp of being really good, trying to get
rid of star players because you can't put a supporting
cast around them.

Speaker 2 (28:02):
And that's the Rockets thing.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
The best, the best thing they've got going from right
now is they've got a nice supporting cast. The problem is,
if you want who are you putting on the marquee. Yeah,
it's a nice ensemble cast.

Speaker 2 (28:12):
There's no there's no star Matt except of course Alprint
was an All Star. But yeah, omar on seven nine,
I get ten forty one.

Speaker 9 (28:20):
Om good morning, Good morning guys. I have two comments,
even though I would like to say three thousand things.
So I was at the game last night and I
heard what you said about the fans or you know,
empty seats. To me, the empty seats were not the issue.
The issue is we're in a Game seven, coming back,

(28:42):
coming down three to one, and the fans are sitting
there eating nachos and drinking beer. I mean, get on
your feet. This is Game seven, This is not this
is not the regular season where we're playing the Charlotte Hornets.
So that was very frustrating. I was actually yelling on
my section like please get up because their augusts needed.

(29:02):
Are you know, some help from the fans to push
them mentally? And the second thing I want to say,
is with Jalen, you know, like, well, I heard what
he said in the post game. He said they were
blitzing him, so Jalen got rid of the balls. But
I also noticed something and I wanted to see what
you guys thought. But it seemed like whenever with the

(29:22):
pick and roll at the top with Van Slee and
sang Doun van Seet wasn't even looking for Jalen, And
so that was something that I didn't really pick up
watching the games at home. But when I went to
Game seven, it seemed like like Jalen was not even
a part of their scheme or offense. And it's hard
for me to really pinpoint Jalen for that game because

(29:44):
he just didn't seem like he was even in the plans.

Speaker 3 (29:47):
So, you know, those are the.

Speaker 9 (29:48):
Two things I wanted to say, And thank you guys,
A big fan of the show.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
Thank you, omre nice to hear from you.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
Seven one three five seven ninety seven one five seven.
I will also address those points, plus Gordon's gonna stop
by uh Sunday, the Astros. Mccullors, Hey, you and I
spoiled an I gout feeling by the way we did.

Speaker 2 (30:09):
Yeah, well, he should have gotten that call. He should
have got the four innings. I know, I know that
was a three to two count and if the ball
a top of the zone should have been a strike.
Can I we got about the good thing we got
human element? Can I wig out about one stat of
that entire game yesterday? Yes, we'll do that.

Speaker 1 (30:24):
We come back ten forty four Sports Talk seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven n einighty
ten forty nine Sports Talk seven ninety it is the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross. It's gonna be an interesting week,
uh for us. I think largely the Houston audience will
turn off basketball and you and I will just have

(30:46):
to text each other to say, man, you see that
great playing. Because I don't know if we're gonna get
into a deep dive on anything in the NBA that's left.
It would have been fun to get continue to get
the NBA chatter and we you and I've been waiting
for it for five years if we did get a
fair number of it, and we intended to do so,
and I think today will be a good day for that.

Speaker 2 (30:58):
And we were with you today until two o'clock. So
if you want to chime in seven one three two
one two five seven, Annie, I do get to go
see my my son graduate college on Thursday. Yeah, see
the Rockets were nice. They did that for you? Is
that what that was? Because that would have been game two, right, yeah,
it have been game two. So uh, I'm gonna miss
Thursday to go see him graduate from the Texas A

(31:19):
and M University and uh looking forward to that. Okay,
how about Texas A and M or Texasaggy let's say, no,
I'm not doing that, Okay, think I'm a war I might.
I got a Marie surem ware though, Okay, who's doing
the commencement? That's I don't even know. I think it's
klay Walker? Is it really Clay Walker? Okay kidding? I

(31:43):
think it's Lee Majors. Is he alive? Yeah, he's I
think it's follow Michael Berry. Oh okay, Remote, did you
ever watch the six million dollar mayn what's just six
million dollars now? With all this Biden inflation?

Speaker 1 (31:56):
You know, Remote, what if it was six million dollars
back in nineteen seventy five? What is what is the
man worth?

Speaker 2 (32:02):
Now?

Speaker 7 (32:05):
Ramon?

Speaker 2 (32:05):
Did you think the Bionic Woman was hot? Was she
I mean she wasn't ugly, but I mean she was
built of wire. I don't know what the woman is
that was the that was the female counterpart of the
six man donar. She was, she was an al that's
a great question. She was. Her parachute did not open properly.
Oh and she landed awkwardly, and she shot her entire

(32:26):
body skydiving. I'm out skydiving out, hot air balloon, riding out, helicopter,
riding out, bungee jumping in Mexico. Out kim with my
wife went ziplining two weeks ago. I'm like, what are
you doing?

Speaker 9 (32:41):
All right?

Speaker 2 (32:41):
Real quick, we'll go back to the phones. The most
alarming number for me, surprisingly but still caught me off
guard was Lance mccullors through eighty nine pitches. M I mean, Rossie,
I mean, what about a slow build. They were looking
for seventy five to eighty through seventy one in his life. Yeah,
I'll start, and you told me he's never going to

(33:03):
pitch one hundred pitches, so we'll see eighty nine. Scared
the hell out, I'm gonna be. I mean, I feel
like I needed to call him to make sure his
arm is still an ice eighty nine in his first pitch,
and I mean, that's a great If he's eighty nine,
I'll take it. But eighty seven, oh, excuse me, eighty south.
I was eighty nine.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
Eight Still, Ross, that's a lot for a first guy
hadn't pitching two and a half years in a major
League baseball game.

Speaker 10 (33:26):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 2 (33:27):
So well, he's been builting up in the rehab he built.
He threw seventy pitches his the last reyears. You're saying
he's built for this. Well, we'll see, because so far
he has not been built for this. And again I'll
stay with it.

Speaker 7 (33:36):
Ross.

Speaker 2 (33:38):
Back to the crowds. I thought the crowd did everything
they possibly could the game dictated. Oh, the energy was fine.
The energy was fine. And then there now Ross had
shown me some empty seats. But that's in the clubs.
The clubs.

Speaker 1 (33:52):
I didn't realize the club scene was so good. By
the way, again, shout out of the rockets for forty
dollars drinks. I mean, my god, well they're five dollars
before seven. I think that's good. Yeah, they tried.

Speaker 2 (34:04):
They're holding block parties. I mean, they're doing happy hours,
they're trying to do what they can. You can't get
the city Houston seven thirty on a Sunday can't get
in their seats in time for a game freaking seven.
That's why it's why we who we are, just a
mid unfortunate sports. We're spitting in the wind to complain
about it. Yeah right, it's like complaining about the wave.
It's just going to keep happening. Don't get me started
on that, Cameron on seven ninety. Our time is ten

(34:26):
fifty three seven one three two five seven ninety and
punching up. I can't tell I think it did. It
was latent, but you're there, Hi, Cam, Good morning, gentlemen.
I just want to thank you guys for what you
guys do, uh with the season every season?

Speaker 3 (34:43):
Thank you.

Speaker 7 (34:43):
Uh.

Speaker 10 (34:44):
The only reason I'm thankful, though, was the game.

Speaker 9 (34:45):
Seven last night was to show the future of the team,
which is a men.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
Thompson.

Speaker 9 (34:51):
As far as I'm considering, we cause ship, Jail and
Green offer a back of chips, I don't care.

Speaker 7 (34:55):
But the only reason we even closed that gap in
the second half was because of.

Speaker 9 (34:59):
Them, well and also because of Adam's But the future
is bright, and as much as I want to you know,
you know.

Speaker 11 (35:06):
Be in a soul nude.

Speaker 9 (35:07):
I got to be happy for where we go from here.
And also Draymond Green has the goal to say, oh,
I respect the team after injuring half our team.

Speaker 2 (35:15):
I don't get it.

Speaker 1 (35:17):
That's funny, Cameron, thank you for the nice words. We
appreciate you calling in. You know, Fred said, I don't
worry about previous Golden State Rocket series. I'm who I am,
and yeah, Draymond fought back and said, you know, I'm
paraphrasing the area. It's the organization that the same team,
but it's the same organization, and he's right. It reminds

(35:43):
me of the Astros in the nineties, Ross going against
the Atlanta Braves and never being able to beat the Braves.
This is five times in ten years now. Granted, this
latest version of the Rockets is nothing close to what
the James and Chris and before that, you know rock
White team, but damn dude, I mean, and here's the thing.

(36:11):
The Rockets beat Golden State three times in six games.
I can't tayl the last time they did three times.
It had to been like Mitch Richmond was one of
the Golden State Warriors. When the Rockets could beat him
three times in six games.

Speaker 2 (36:22):
Yeah, well they couldn't get to the fourth Donna's Foyle
was playing for the Golden State Warrior, Donald Foyle could
and Bedrin's and the Boys Monte Ellis. But yeah, and
you want to go. You won Game six in nasty, loud,
crazy Chase Center, and you did it frankly, without much fanfare,

(36:45):
without without any really fourth quarter drama to it. Nope,
I thought I thought they were gonna steamroll on yesterday.
I really did, because, again, stupid me, you had Butler
and Curry both played forty two minutes in Game six.

Speaker 1 (37:04):
Yes, Gary Payton was sick yesterday. Yes, so you had
one less perimeter guy to go to. Yes, Buddy Healed
didn't do Jack squat in the previous two games of
the series, and then he I mean you.

Speaker 2 (37:17):
Thirty three points for Buddy Else. Can't leave people open
in the NBA. You can't leave perimeter shooters open. It's
there's just no other way around. I mean, nine of
eleven is hot shooting. Even if you get eleven wide
open three it's generally an NBA player, even if Buddy
Hills caliber is not going to make nine of them.
So I mean you're a victim of a little bit
of bad luck, but you also left them wide open
too far, too often. All right, the Astros fall to
the White Sox, losing two out of three to the

(37:40):
White Sox. Ugh rain shortened game. McCullers out there, defense
lets them down. The rain frankly did the Astros. No
favors of the Astros. Bullpen gave up that big lead
and now they're in milliwalker to take on the Brewers
on deck tonight with the boys of the eighteen Boys,
I'll have the tenth Ink Show. Oh wow tonight and tomorrow.

Speaker 10 (38:00):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (38:01):
Yeah, look at you. I told you God step up
in the hours. Thank you, Matt.

Speaker 1 (38:04):
Yeah, you you worked a lot of hours yesterday. So
I figured I'd do the tenth th inning for you.
So that's coming up tonight. Ten fifty six second hour
Matt Thomas Show starts with Ross, What starts with James
and Alvin. You guys want to jump in, you may
do so at seven one three, two one two five
seven NINETI we also have to tell the truth in
just thirty five minutes here on Sports Talk seven ninety

(38:25):
All right, here we go eleven oh one Sports Sock
seven ninety It is a Monday edition, and we're gonna
feel sorry for ourselves. Have we put enough depressing songs?
We won't just want to get it all and get
all that out of our system? Or do you want
to go with a you know what, glass half full?

Speaker 2 (38:40):
Rockets? See if you want to be bawling on air
rather not now?

Speaker 1 (38:44):
When you cry, well, the tears hit your beard and
all of a sudden it becomes like nappy down there.

Speaker 2 (38:50):
No, okay, I mean, what do you mean it's pretty
trimmed up right now? Yeah, the rest of the moment.
The rest of your main is a mess. But what
do you mean look at you fresh fresh today, curls
are popping. You're crazy?

Speaker 3 (39:07):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (39:07):
Do you rush? Do you want to wash your hair
every day? No? Hoffing, You do it about once a week,
is that right? Okay, that's if you do. If you
every day, it would just try out. It's not good
when you have long hair, I would know these. Then
it gets a little too tangled and then you start
getting rats nests in there.

Speaker 1 (39:23):
I have not had a full head of hair since
nineteen ninety four. I'm sorry, thankfully, I'm still beautiful. I mean,
you've saved so much on haircuts and shampoo. I do
get shaves though, because I'm a diva that way. Okay,
straight razor, no super shaver.

Speaker 2 (39:41):
What is that? That's just stuff you know they do that. Okay,
that's good. I don't want to give you deal. I
don't want to give you the audio sound effect, but
I just did. Yeah, thank you. All right, Astros drop
two or three to Chicago. We'll get to that. We've
got to tell the truth. At the bottom of the hour.
We have the Rockets season coming to an end yesterday,
and needless to say, the Jalen Green future question is

(40:05):
in play, So fuck on the phones and we'll talk
to James and Alvina just second here. Jalleen's talent Chandless
is a twenty point score in the NBA. He led
the Rockets and scoring this season.

Speaker 1 (40:18):
Yeah, we should say his three point percentage got better
as this season progressed.

Speaker 2 (40:22):
He shoulds very good free throws. Turnovers are probably more
than I would personally like compared to his assist totals.

Speaker 1 (40:31):
Defense at times can be locked down. Sometimes it can
be where were you supposed to be? That kind of thing,
But I would say I would not consider him a
negative defender.

Speaker 2 (40:39):
I would agree with that.

Speaker 1 (40:43):
But my goodness, seven shots to be a hero in
a series or at least be a component in a
playoff game, win or lose thirty eight points and the
rest of them are are hard to even look at

(41:03):
box scores. Lack of shots, huh, turnovers, especially early in
the series, but just a lot of And I found
myself doing this as I was calling these games. Jalen
comes in for this stretch, this is going to be
the time he needs a step and it just never happened.

Speaker 2 (41:23):
He took eight shots. He's the single digit shots again
for how many times in this series? I mean, let's
say put things in perspective here, Alprin Shengoun shot one
hundred and thirty one shots. Fred van Vliet was second
with ninety five three excuse me. Aman Thompson was third
with Jalalen Riema was third with eighty six and that

(41:47):
and take the game two out of it when he
went when he was eight of eighteen from three, he
took twenty six threes in the other six games, how
many do you make? Five? Five? Yeah, five? He shot
thirty percent from three and that includes the eight of
eighteen in game two. It I wouldn't say like like

(42:12):
he and I are never gonna break Brett. I mean,
I'm but you can have people that you appreciate, who's polite,
who's nice, you know, all the little all the little things.
Uh huh, guys you root for.

Speaker 1 (42:21):
There are some guys in the Houston sports teams in
his sound I don't root for because I know who
they are, what they're built on, and if they're successful
and help the team when that's great, but they're not
personally people that I go, oh, that's a guy I'm
personal rooting for.

Speaker 2 (42:33):
It was personally rooting for Jalen Green. I'm rooting for
Jalen Green. I wanted him to be the pick over
Evan Mobley. And as you know, Matt, I always I
root to be right. Yeah, well in your heart to
admit when you're wrong. Yes, And it's feeling like I'm
losing the thread on this one because of it's not
just what Jalen Green has done on the floor, because

(42:54):
you can excuse it and we can be in this
Rocket's bubble and here in Houston and say, well, yes
he's only twenty three, Yes he's improved every season, Yes
he the lights were too bright. And oh, it was
just his first playoff series. Look on this, this team
of players, it was their first playoff series. It was
a men. Thompson's first playoff series. He vastly outplayed Jalen Green.

(43:15):
It was albrin shin Goun's first playoff series. He led
the team in points, rebounds, assistant steals. And then then
you go look around the league. You look at the
Kate Cunninghams, the Scardi barnes is as uh kJ mentioned Wagner,
Franz Franz or mo or which one of the Wagners, whatever,
Paulo Benkaro, uh, the Edwards, the John Morants of the world.

(43:38):
Those those guys, those players have I was pulling it
up on the post game show. I don't have it
all in front of me. But for the most part,
not for the most part, Jalen Green has more single
digit playoff performances than all of those guys. And Edwards
has never had a zero point as I'm sorry, a
single digit game. He's never had one. John Morant's had one,

(44:01):
Devin Bucker's never had one. Steph Curry's been in like
one hundred and fifty five playoff games. He's got like two,
you got four in one series. He shied away from
the moment, and it's it's the most concerned I've ever
been for for Jalen Green and his growth. He's gotten better,
for sure. Do he ge There's a difference there. You

(44:22):
can say did he lose his intensity, did he lose
his desire? Or did Golden State throw something at him
defensively that he just couldn't find the right space. I
mean they did, but he was double team did he was?
He was blitzed. Steph Curry was blitzed. He went around
both guys and then was getting buckets or finding buckets
for other people. Steph Curry gets blitzed. At Edwards gets

(44:43):
blitz John Morant gets blitzed. All the best players and
ball handlers in the league they get blitzed. You have
to figure something out. You cannot say, well, I got
double teamed and that's that. You have to figure something out.
There's that play you remember that of men Thompson play
where he was on the right side. He dribble behind
his back and goes and finishes a like a circus

(45:03):
layup around Draymond Green. He went around the first level
of defense. Draymond Green was waiting for him and then
he finished around it. It can be done, it can happen.
Jalen Green didn't do that. If Jalen Green has the
ball in that same scenario, he stops at the top
of the key and he passes the ball away. He
needed to be aggressive, he needed to have that mindset,
and he didn't have it. And when he bounced back

(45:25):
in game two, part of me was like, Okay, finally
he heard the noise. He heard it and he stepped up,
and he's going to continue to do this. But no,
then he hears the noise after game three and four,
you're coming home for game five. I mean, that's a
soft landing spot for you. The other team's playing three
games in five days. And then he was a no show,
and then a no show in game six, and then

(45:46):
the no shows kept piling up, and then I get
I keep getting more and more concerned. It's problematic for
him to be He's going to be a good NBA player.
He already is, and he could be the third or
fourth best player on a champampionship team, but that's not
what you drafted him number two overall to be and
to expect if you, let's say that you were in

(46:07):
the camp of Jalen's got to be moved. You just
described with the National television lights on the playoff implications
the most intense part of an NBA season, that Jalen
had six of his seven worst games that he could
of the recent Jalen Green era.

Speaker 1 (46:27):
What are you expecting in return? Yeah, you either going
to have to give up draft picks. You're going to
have to give up more than one player. And that's
where it gets, I think, very interesting. There is a
core of eight. How many of the eight are you
willing to give up? And what are you getting in return?

Speaker 2 (46:49):
Indeed, if Durance the only Phoenix Sun be very careful
and he thirty seven, still can score the best of them,
but there's enough part of his game that says, you know,
father time remains under feed us a cliche term, but
it is what it is. Do you do enough to
convince Phoenix to say, you know what, we love Devin Booker,

(47:09):
but we can't build a team around Devin Booker, and
that if they're really going to completely rebuild the Phoenix Suns,
having Booker and Duran on that basketball team doesn't do
them any favors next season unless the Phoenix Suns say, look,
we think we can build around Devin Booker and he
is not a tradable piece as you always we were

(47:29):
talking about guys that are untouchable. Is really Kevin? Is
really Devin Booker untouchable? Especially if you get let's say
the Rockets get into the top five of the draft
next year. Yeah, Luka Doncic trade tells us nobody's untouchable.
If Luca don if a twenty five year old phenom
is isn't untouchable, then nobody's untouchable. But yeah, yeah, as

(47:51):
far as the value of Jalen Green, you either gotta
be very careful what you think.

Speaker 1 (47:56):
You're literally trading him as somebody said, for the back
of peanuts or whatever.

Speaker 2 (48:00):
You can't do that. That's not it doesn't work that
way exactly. And then ultimately, again, if you think Jalen's
your issue, why would another NBA team say, well, I'll
put him under my wing and we're gonna be He'll
be just fine with us. Yeah, there could be some
of that, but I don't think it's a lot of it.
I think maybe you need to change your fear of
thinking in that, Uh not you, Matt. I'm just talking
about in jital of this, of the way this roster

(48:21):
is constructed. You have to stop thinking of Jalen Green
as the future cornerstone and you have to think of
him as a future complimentary piece. So can you go
Can he be moved somewhere? If you were to move him,
knowing that he's about to make a significant salary bump
coming up next year? Can he be your number two
on a basketball team as long as your number one
remains a super alpha dog? And that's what the Rockets

(48:41):
at this point have to decide. Can alpr and shingoon
a men Thompson be the alpha dog? Can they be
the clear number one? If you have those two guys
as you're one two, and then Jalen Green is your
three or even four, and you have a lottery pick
that can still be a successful, very good team. They can.
You can keep Jalen Green and still be a good team.

(49:03):
You just have to lower your expectations of him. Yeah,
knowing that I saw what he did. Because again, I
will actually chalka up the first playoff game, Jitters. I'll
actually even buy into the first game road playoff Jitters,
but Aman Thompson shook themselves in that. Yes, Oprin Shingoon

(49:23):
was okay. Kay Cunningham scored twenty plus points on every
playoff game he was in. Now, it wasn't efficient, he
was shooting poorly, but at least he was getting I
would have liked to see Jalen Green go. You know,
we're not seeing we're not seeing efficiency anymore in the NBA.
We're just not We're not. But he's still blow average.
You know, we talk about ERA A plus, they have
field goal percentage plus. He's below average everywhere on Jalen Green.

(49:45):
I don't want to know what that means. I know
i'd say, don't look at the advanced numbers for Jalen Green.
If you want him to be successful, just don't look.

Speaker 1 (49:53):
And again, the Rockets can very easily say we're gonna
fix this. We're gonna get appy, bigger, fast, u or stronger.
We're gonna get We're gonna develop him into being more
efficient in the in the mid range and within five feet.
A men's gonna continue to produce like he did from
season one to season two, and we can make subtle changes.

(50:16):
Who's the saying or they go for it? All, but
that would be something they have not done since going
to make the trades for Chris paul In, Russell Westbrook
eleven thirteen, Sports Talk seven or eighty those of you
on hold, James, Randy Ron, We'll get to you guys
coming out of this, coming up at the bottom of
the hor and I'm working on the list of my

(50:38):
amazing sports takes. ROSSI I believe only I believe three
of them. One I don't believe, So be ready for that.
Come up at the bottom of the hour. All right, mister,
no game sevens. In round one there were two, man's,
I mean, there was potentially eight, so I'm still winning
in some respects.

Speaker 2 (50:57):
Yeah, you know what, if you want to frame it
that way, let.

Speaker 1 (51:00):
Me let me sell my own arguments that way. I
play the higher percentages.

Speaker 2 (51:04):
Well, I said zero, there's only two, but I was
pretty close. Give me credit. All right, you know what,
madam giving you four? Thank you very much. I appreciate that.
Seven one three two one two five seven. Natti seven
one three two one two five seven.

Speaker 3 (51:16):
Anti.

Speaker 2 (51:16):
You guys have got some great callers. I want to
say hello, and we want to give you guys an
opportunity because that's what we do. We are a talk show.
We'd all like to listen to ourselves talk for hours
and end.

Speaker 12 (51:24):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (51:24):
We'd like to listen to people have say things. Yeah,
as long as you make somewhat sense. Well yeah, even
if it goes off the rails and you sound drunk. Yeah,
we we we we we make the most out of that.
We take a chicken and uh make an omelet. Nope,
no chicken bleep and make chicken salad. There you go. Okay,
we squeeze lemons to make the lemonade. James and Alvin
on Sevenati, James, thank you for winning a good morning.

Speaker 13 (51:46):
Oh thank you gentlemen for except to my call. You
guys got a great show going. I want to start
off with, uh, I don't I think. I think Jalen
Green he's a he's an above average NBA player. I
wouldn't put this seven game lost on him. I think
that the whole loss ended up in Game five, when
the Rockets had a thirty point lead with nine minutes

(52:08):
left to go in the third quarter, Steve curR took
his he took his start in five and put him
on the bench, put in his reserves, and the Rockets
put in eight reserves and then next thing you know,
with nine minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Rockets
down by eleven, the coach of the Rockets had to
put his start in five back in to play the

(52:29):
nine minutes of the fourth quarter to seal the game.

Speaker 7 (52:33):
Five.

Speaker 13 (52:34):
I thought that made a big difference going down the stretch.
But pauls, last night the Rockets looked for teams WHOA.

Speaker 2 (52:44):
And did not make a big difference. They played the
next game on the road in San Francisco and won
that game. It was a war of attrition, Matt, and
it was six minutes. By the way, it was around
eight minutes to the two minute mark.

Speaker 13 (52:54):
Well, what I'm trying to say is you had to
put now. Granted Steve curR rested his fire for a
whole quarter and nine well I thought it was nine minutes,
So so I put it like this here, those those
those legs of the Rockets had to come back and

(53:14):
finish the game to close out the seal a game
I saw last night.

Speaker 2 (53:19):
But again, hold on, hold on side for a second.
I just told you the very next game they played,
they want it.

Speaker 13 (53:30):
They wanted it. Took effort, it took effort. It took determination.
That takes a lot out of you. I'm just saying
I put it like this here. I saw praise. I
saw Muhammad to me if I went to Muhammad Ali.

Speaker 2 (53:45):
And George Farman.

Speaker 14 (53:46):
In the latter.

Speaker 13 (53:47):
Rounds of the fight, Foreman got tied, just like the
Rockets got tied and Golden State portraying I LEI as
great as Golden State was in the pass.

Speaker 2 (54:00):
They was able to pull one out.

Speaker 13 (54:02):
That's all.

Speaker 2 (54:03):
I'm just all right, I got youpe on them. Yeah,
thank you for the phone, Like the rumble in the jungle. Look,
you could argue that they got down three to one
and they used so much energy to scratch and claw
and win game five and six that they were gas
for Game seven. But see, I don't think we can
do that because we're the ones. I'm maybe the leader
of the pack saying. This is an athletically younger team, spry,

(54:27):
ready to go. You just saw Jimmy Butner and uh
Steph Curry played forty plus minutes in the last couple
of games of the series. They're bouncing back and forth
between San Franisco and Houston. The Rockets have a younger team.
They're built for this physically could run them out of
the gym.

Speaker 1 (54:45):
But yeah, Golden State's just smart and crafty and knows that.

Speaker 5 (54:51):
Not the kid.

Speaker 2 (54:51):
It's not a killer instinct. It's just we've been there,
done that, and the Rockets have not. They just they
missed two many opportunities in the paint and the offense
was just horrible in Game seven. And I think again
the number of times you would watch the Rockets offense
unfortunately get into their whatever they were going to get
into with the sets the clock was Yeah, they were

(55:16):
too hard to me, frankly, because it was one shot
and now it was also sometimes rush shots. I think
a word I use was clunky. It was just clunky.
It was just it was just out of sorts. It
was a little too dis joint. And you know, we
can say, ah, it was game seven. It was the pressure.
Oh it was they were fatigued because so they spent
all the enerury coming back. We would see this on
a Tuesday night against the Wizards, Like, I mean, this

(55:37):
could happen at any time. This offense was the big
weak point coming in, especially the three point shooting and
the and the field goal shooting. I think was one
of the worst in basketball as well. Oh they were
both there. Everything was bottom ten this year. But Fred
van Vliet played out of his mind. I mean, held
his own as much as he could yesterday. But three
straight games that was asking a lot for him. He came,

(56:00):
I'm a huge You know, Dylan didn't do much in
the last two games of the series. A man after
a sluggish start got going. Albee got to you your points.
But it was in volume, way more, way, more shots
that you'd want him to take. A lot of offensive rebounds,
a lot of second chance opportunities, and the little putbacks
and stuff that Steven Adams was able to do earlier series.

(56:20):
Last night the first you kind of and not that
I would ever let Steven Adams decide how things gonna
go offensively, but he had two pretty good looks inside
five feet and missed him both, and I thought, you
know what, those are the kind of little subtle baskets
that make him a folk hero. Now, not only that
was his defensive work, the the double bigs, the offensive rebounds,

(56:40):
and when those weren't falling, miss possessions, long contested shots
with three to four seconds off of the shot clock.
In Golden State, Rockets went three two zone, they said
all right, or the Golden State did and said we're
gonna let We're gonna let you bury us from the outside,
and the Rockets for the better part of three and
a half quarters couldn't make an outside shot distance. They

(57:01):
were befallen by their offense, which is was an issue
all season long. Randy on seven ninety, Randy, how are
you magid?

Speaker 15 (57:09):
Morning?

Speaker 2 (57:09):
Good morning?

Speaker 11 (57:10):
Yeah?

Speaker 12 (57:11):
I just want to say, uh.

Speaker 7 (57:14):
J G Jalen Green.

Speaker 12 (57:15):
It seemed like the moment was just too big for him.

Speaker 5 (57:18):
You know, he was just frozen. He had that beer
in headlight syndrome.

Speaker 12 (57:22):
You know.

Speaker 5 (57:23):
So from a Rocket standpoint, they have a hey, they
have a big.

Speaker 12 (57:27):
Decision on him. But but Matt, Uh, since you are
well traveled in the sporting arenas, from an NBA standpoint,
I was going to ask you three things. Actually, who
has the craziest, loudest, rudest fan and and what is uh?
And who has the nicest stadium? And what is the

(57:48):
biggest dump? And out with that, brother, I would appreciate
it all right, Uh.

Speaker 1 (57:53):
Two rudest fan bases are the Utah Jazz and the
Golden State Warriors. M Okay, everybody else is a distant
third interesting uh nicest arena. And then he said biggest
They're all these arenas are all about the same these days.
There's no you know, like in baseball, Fenway Park is
not like Minute may or a Dyking Park and Dodger Stadium.

Speaker 2 (58:13):
They're all about the same. I like pound for pound
the basketballists basketball East. Does that make sense?

Speaker 7 (58:21):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (58:21):
Sure. The most basketballly feely to it is Gamebridge Field
House in Indianapolis. Okay, spectacular arena. Why because it's just
it has the windows open. If I it's like it's
like the Hoosiers GYMKA. But it's a modern spect you know,

(58:42):
beautiful eighteen thousand ce to ring with all the bells
and whistles of sweets and whatnot. Okay, what else do
you want to ask? Oh, biggest dump? Biggest dump would
be you say MSG a lot. I hate MSG and
I hate Miami's arena. Dump and dump. Nicest fans Toronto,
MM Toronto. They get there are no you don't see.

(59:02):
They sit in their seats, they cheer, they sing oh
Canada and the US anthem, and they know them to
cheer and no one to sit and no one to going.
And that's strange because that's one of the younger teams
in the NBA. New Orleans Arena is.

Speaker 1 (59:15):
A dump too, Smoothie King, Yeah, it's dump, but Nice
would probably be, Consico would be probably Gamebridge would be
on my list, Chase Centers, Nice in San Francisco. It
just ism, and I do like the aura of Crypto
dot com, Lakers celebrities, the Darken Arena. It's it's it's

(59:39):
basketball like not sex, but it's just it's just it's
a night club with a basketball game in it.

Speaker 2 (59:45):
Does that make sense to you?

Speaker 7 (59:46):
All right?

Speaker 2 (59:47):
There you go, Thank you, Matt, thank you.

Speaker 1 (59:49):
All right, James ron Sterling, GEO, Hank Tight We got
to tell the truth coming up next and we'll go
back on the phones as well.

Speaker 2 (59:54):
Get the news at noon? At noon, Ross, what is
today's edition of Believe It or Not? At one?

Speaker 3 (01:00:00):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:00:02):
What I was asking? What today's edition?

Speaker 16 (01:00:04):
Now?

Speaker 2 (01:00:05):
That's fine, we'll figure it out, okay. Eleven twenty eight
Sports Todd State Warriors. I mean it can be if
you wanted to be ker Jimmy Butler, Steve Kerr Rockets
Warriors history. No, I don't want any part of that
Jalen Green, great form playoff performances throughout history. Nope, would
you stop? I mean, at one point are you going
to stop doing that? Now? All right, I'm gonna tell

(01:00:28):
you abou affordable Tree service. I never know why, but

(01:00:50):
I do. Real quick. All of you on hold, this
is gonna be a very fast I mean it's super
fast edition of To Tell the Truth, because I got
people that want to talk, and this is we're here for.
We are a talk show speed edition of To Tell
the Truth. Jonathan, you ready to go? I got four takes.
I believe three of them, all right? Which one do
I not believe? Here we go. Number one, I would

(01:01:12):
not rule out an overhaul.

Speaker 1 (01:01:14):
In the Rockets core eight players this offseason, okay, Okay,
meaning I would think if I was a betting man,
I would lean more towards a earth shattering move than
a non Okay, I'll say more shattering than not, more
likely than more probable than not.

Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
Correct, more probable than not. I don't think they'll stand pad.
I'll just make it that way. I think they're gonna
do something special, okay. Number two, the government will one
hundred percent get involved in nil regulation. Okay, when you
have Nick Saban go to Donald Trump and have a meeting.
That's some stereo busness. Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:01:50):
I think the government will be involved in an IOL regulation.
I can't tell you when or how, but probably under
the Trump administration.

Speaker 2 (01:01:55):
At some point. It feels like we've got bigger problems
to tackle. But I'm just telling you. Number three, this
Cam Smith centerfield practice, it's a bit. Usually in the
team at ops, I average, that's our guy, Jack Myers
fan club, thirteen bases on Saturday. I would expect limited,

(01:02:18):
if not zero, play for Cam Smith and center field, okay.
And number four, I think the Boston Celtics sweep the
New York Knicks four to oh in the Eastern Conference Summary. Finally,
Nick Celtics, all right, that's this is it's a speed
Express edition of thee And you believe one of all?
I believe four here? No, I believe three of the four.

(01:02:39):
Well you believe three? Yeah? Here they are I said wrong.
I would expect a more than likely a significant shift
in the Rockets roster to the government will absolutely get
involved in in IR regulation. Three, the Cam Smith center
field is just a bit. And number four Boston sweeps
New York, which one of the four do I not believe, gentlemen,

(01:03:01):
please discuss quickly. I think he's talked about rophel Stone,
trusting the process. I'm gonna go with one jo.

Speaker 17 (01:03:08):
I'm gonna go. I don't think he believes in double A.
Is gonna be involved with government. Someone take two?

Speaker 2 (01:03:14):
Okay. I think Boston does sweet in New York.

Speaker 14 (01:03:16):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:03:17):
I do believe the government will get involved in a
nil regulation okay. And I think the itchy trigger finger
for the rockets is nong gonna be it anymore. They're
gonna pull off something. Okay. So the one I don't
believe is cam Smith being a bit.

Speaker 1 (01:03:33):
I think they're they like Zach Desenzo, They're gonna have
to give out figure out a way to get cam
Smith out there and get You.

Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
Can't put Jack Myers on the bench, baby, you can
put Jackie Maris on the bend. He is white hot, dude.
He was hot in May last year. How did June, July, August?
He's he's leading the team in ops and and average.

Speaker 17 (01:03:50):
I just watched Zach the Zendo drop a flyball. No,
I just thought that this morning.

Speaker 2 (01:03:56):
I'm just saying. I'm just saying he's gonna play some
center field. The fan club knows that Jake's not going
to ops over eight hundred all season in all likelihood,
it'd be nice if we did. It'd be wonderful if
we did. We can put him in the You know what,
if he goes the All Star Game, I'll buy your ticket.
Where is it this? You know where it is? Probably
somewhere cool? Right? Is it Seattle?

Speaker 3 (01:04:15):
Now?

Speaker 2 (01:04:15):
Where is the All Star Game this year?

Speaker 3 (01:04:16):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:04:17):
It was in Seattle last year?

Speaker 3 (01:04:18):
Was it not?

Speaker 2 (01:04:18):
As a Nation League partner? Atlanta?

Speaker 7 (01:04:22):
July?

Speaker 2 (01:04:24):
Atlanta and July. It's not a bad is the first
pitch at ten fifteen pm? What's the reality?

Speaker 1 (01:04:30):
Humanity at the first pitch? And that's our quick edition
of To Tell the Truth. This week, let's go to
Ron on seven nine eleven thirty eight. Ron, thank you
for waiting. Good morning, Hello Ron, Hello, Hello Ron.

Speaker 2 (01:04:48):
The floor is yours. Ron. You're on seven aunty, a
major market radio station in Houston, Texas.

Speaker 3 (01:04:54):
Hello.

Speaker 2 (01:04:54):
Can you hear me? Yes? I can't. Where are you
in the bathroom?

Speaker 3 (01:04:59):
Yes? Name wasn't Ron, though. It's rock?

Speaker 10 (01:05:04):
What is it?

Speaker 4 (01:05:05):
Rock?

Speaker 2 (01:05:06):
Rock R O c K in the US? A rock
Brock like Brock Leslie.

Speaker 3 (01:05:11):
Yeah, Rock for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:05:12):
Yeah, all right, Rock, what do you got Rock?

Speaker 3 (01:05:15):
Yeah, I'm just talking about the Rockets.

Speaker 18 (01:05:17):
My predictions. First of all, the Rockets, I thought that
they were losing six games. My second prediction that they
were losing seven. It was basically because of the inexperience,
I thought. But I was real disappointed with Green, and uh,
I think if they can do something with him. One
of the scenarios I've read about a week ago is

(01:05:39):
that if John Morock was going to look for a
chain of scenery, number one option was the Rockets. They
had the assets to do so.

Speaker 3 (01:05:48):
And now I would think any.

Speaker 18 (01:05:51):
Untouchables would probably sim Gold and Thompson, maybe Tory Easton.
And they also had that draft pick from Phoenix. But
that's my take on it. But Green, he was just
a disappointment. I don't think he's I can foresee her,
foresee that he's going to change for John Moran. You

(01:06:12):
know you gotta go for that if it's a possibility.

Speaker 2 (01:06:16):
Thank you Rock, thank you Roight. I think there's too
much bagers with John Moran. I just do Uh. Yeah,
I I don't know. I think he I think he
got rid of Taylor Jenkins, who thinks a very good coach.
M Clearly the off the field stuff has impacted him

(01:06:41):
in the last couple of years. The one thing I
do like about him is he's really tough. He'll play
through pain. He tried to go in the game for
their series. Is he good enough outside? Attract is actually
pretty friendly? Is it? H three more years? At thirty nine,
forty two and forty five million? You're saying that's astronomical,

(01:07:03):
that's what that's Fred van Vliet money, that's number one
player money, is what it is. I would say it's
a stay away from me. It's not a stay away
from me. I would look, okay, yeah, he puts his
gun hands up on the court and gets fine.

Speaker 3 (01:07:17):
Whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:07:17):
If as long as he's dropping thirty five, I don't care.
I just don't know if the mature. I need my
star Ross And maybe this is just me being me.
I need my start to also be mature. And I
think there is still a very very large part of
John Moran's life that is not matured. It seems to
be lacking maturity. I can get with you that. But
you know who would be a good coach of trading
him out? Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:07:38):
Is it? Ryan?

Speaker 2 (01:07:39):
With Bme Monmoka. It does so I think with this
culture and everything over here that he could thrive and
improve and it could be a wake up call for
him getting traded away. Perhaps do you trace someone within
your own division? Defense is not very good, But he's
one of the most dynamic scores on the planet. And
if he could ever develop a good three point shot,

(01:08:00):
I was gonna say the three point shot is a
tough watch. Yeah, he's he's a bad three point shooter,
but he's still good overall. His field goal percentages are
are better than can I ask for a three point shooter.
I think we've been asking him for this for five
or six years. I think people were talking about Malik Beasley.
I think as a free agent after this year he
shot forty one percent from three for the Detroit Pistons,
maybe I would have to look at the other free

(01:08:20):
Asian market. And that's that's actually what we were talking about.
Big earth shattering move and trusting the process. It could
be in between. Yeah, they could make a trade for
a shooter and a and a complimentary piece because they
have enough assets to do that. You could, Yes, you could, uh,
and I don't want to. I don't want to throw
names out there, but you could. You've got enough guys
that are rotational players in his rocket lineup that are young.

(01:08:42):
That's the great thing about this rotation is the only
really guy in the eight man rotation that's this elderly
and relatively speaking, is uh thirty Steven Adams. Okay, I
don't really count Fred being old at thirty. I know
he's a veteran've been around and been there, done that,
but I don't think he's old. M hmm.

Speaker 1 (01:09:00):
By the way, Steve Adams gonna be a interesting conversation
to have. Did Steve Adams do enough in this playoff
to get beyond beyond a mid level exception?

Speaker 2 (01:09:07):
Give him whatever he wants because it's not my money. Yeah,
but you can't think that way. We are we are,
we are, we are well.

Speaker 1 (01:09:15):
That's in't a question of that, it's sizing everything up.
Can you get Fred renegotiated on a longer term deal
at less per year?

Speaker 2 (01:09:23):
Frank and old saying, wait, I signed this deal and
I want you. I want to take it. Or if
I don't get if I don't, if you if you
drop me, I think I can go find a better deal.

Speaker 1 (01:09:32):
Somewhere else. I think Fred really really likes Houston. I
think Fred would like to finish his career as at
Houston Rocket. And Fred made a lot of money the
last couple of years. Can he get thirty years old,
say you know what, maybe my minutes back off a
little bit. Maybe I'm this a backup wing. I mean,

(01:09:53):
does Reed Shephard come into equation here at any point
next year? It's a huge year for him on that.
That's a big question. Yeah, for going off for year one. No,
he is not a fact, but he's young and he
can improve. And a lot of guys have been.

Speaker 2 (01:10:05):
Rookies that have been buried on the bench come back
in years two and three and four him.

Speaker 1 (01:10:09):
It's and it's not atypical. All right, back on the phones,
we return eleven forty three is our time. It is
the Matt Thomas Show with Ross seven one three two
one two five seven nine zero seven one three two
one two five seven ninety go on to the phone's
here in one second. I rarely because my sports takes
sometimes are astronomically horrible, But Ross, can I tell you

(01:10:34):
and I told you so when I told you about
this a year ago, and it is right along the
lines of what I was telling you for twelve months. Okay,
So Cal are they're having their golf tournament the Texans
are today.

Speaker 19 (01:10:45):
Huh.

Speaker 2 (01:10:46):
And Cal is asked about the stadium, is like, yeah,
we're thinking about a variety of different things hang around Energy.
We're also looking for a practice facility, and we're also
willing to get out of the NRG area to open
up all of the Southeast Texas area. We are looking
at all of our options. I mean, I I pegged
this from the joke. Hasn't happened yet, Matt, I pegged

(01:11:10):
if it happens, cal McNair says they're wanting to move
out of Energy for a new stadium. They'd like to
stay in the Greater Houston area. Of course they would.
Oh yeah, I thought they were going to go to
San Antonio.

Speaker 1 (01:11:25):
No, I mean when when she means when they mean
by that they want to stay in Harris County. H
And I believe the what's the thing we do on Wednesdays?
What's it called ross? What's that thing we do a
eleven thirty on Wednesdays?

Speaker 2 (01:11:35):
I can't, I don't know, I think I ain't. Nobody
got time for that. Now, think about something else. Harris
County is gonna tell the Texans shut your bam mass up.
You want it, we'll give you know what I do.
They'll they should give a land deal. I mean, I'm
okay with that. Aren't there a billion dollars in debt
to them? M it's so cute out We want to
really work with the energy people on the rodeo. You

(01:11:56):
want your own stadium, with your own little you want,
you know what they want ross They want their own world.
And Jerry had to go to Arlington to go get
that done. Well, yeah, so what part of Houston wants
to be Arlington? Pasadena? I don't think there's a real
estate in Pasadena.

Speaker 3 (01:12:17):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:12:17):
My guess the closest thing to inner city would be Edo.
I guess there's just some real estate in Edo, I
think yeah. But just just generally as you guys are
around town, were are pockets of area that you could
build a in Theory seventy thousand seed stadium with the
training facility. And I'm going to presume hotels, restaurants, bars,
gift shops. I don't know. I mean, you need you

(01:12:40):
need quite a bit of real estate.

Speaker 10 (01:12:42):
You just do.

Speaker 2 (01:12:44):
It's very interesting how that's turned out. Maybe, uh, the
southwest side by Kirby and the Loop, that's honestly, honestly
where it is now is. But they're they're like, nobody
goes over there. Yeah, but I think that's I think
that could just be Houston. I mean, we have these
wonderful downtown ballpark and arena facilities. Downtown doesn't thrive, no,

(01:13:05):
and that's why again, who wants to invest in that?
Do you really think if we put a Texanville at
say two ninety in the Beltway, you know that is right? Yes,
if you built if you built Jones Road around here, Yeah,
if you built Texanville, could it be busy twelve months

(01:13:28):
a year over there? Let me ask you this why.
I mean, there's a bunch of land around where they
are now, there's a bunch of parking lots, a bunch
of I mean that never it's never built up anywhere.
Because there's my thought is they're probably thinking that's an
area that people just won't go and spend. It's it's
right off the light rail. There is the medical centers

(01:13:50):
right there. You got a lot of young nurses, doctors
and stuff living not too a couple miles from that area.
So in theory you figure there would be some sort
of party atmosphere. But as you say that, why did
that happen in the last twenty years? Yeah, I don't know,
That's what I'm saying. Like, so I'm saying, if it
doesn't happen there, does that mean it's going to happen
at two ninety And well, well, if you're going to
two ninety in the bout, I'm just throwing an area out. Yeahah,

(01:14:12):
you're doing it because you're hoping the family of four
is the one going to the restaurants.

Speaker 1 (01:14:17):
You're not worried about the single crowd. You're not trying
to build Edo or Washington av You are trying to
build a complete family plex with an indoor you know,
one of those like those water parks, And I mean
it would be it'd be more amusement park than it
would be nightlife.

Speaker 2 (01:14:34):
You can build it, but will they come? Well, so
far the answers no. In case in point, the amount
of available real estate in downtown Houston, uh Sterling with
is at eleven fifty four on seven ninety Sterling, good
morning and thank you for holding Good morning.

Speaker 13 (01:14:49):
Can you hear me, yes, sir, Okay, Jig Gears, I
was thinking I saw this stuff last night.

Speaker 7 (01:14:58):
I don't know if I would I.

Speaker 20 (01:15:00):
Would keep Jalen Green, but he needs to be I
think Udoka blew it. I think he didn't make the
appropriate adjustments. And I think it starts with the kind
of team that he built. Nobody on Golden State's team
cannot shoots.

Speaker 7 (01:15:15):
Anybody on the team can shoot.

Speaker 20 (01:15:18):
We have apparently pockets of people who can't shoot. So
you build a team that's around defensive players, they build
a team with shooters, and we'll take We're worried about
defense later. And another thing, he went at one of
the best defensive players in the league.

Speaker 7 (01:15:37):
He went at.

Speaker 20 (01:15:38):
Draymond when with Shangoon, and that just didn't work.

Speaker 7 (01:15:44):
It just didn't work. Why would you play for another
team's strength. It's not like Raymond turned into a great
defensive player. He's been this way and he's pretty much
shown that he can andle San Goon.

Speaker 2 (01:15:59):
Okay, So if you're not gonna ball, if you're not
hold on, if you're not giving the ball to Shoon,
who is your primary scoring presence for the Rockets. If
you're saying stay away from him.

Speaker 20 (01:16:08):
You've got Jabaris, You've got side. You go with Jabari Smith.

Speaker 2 (01:16:12):
You're gonna run your offense through Jabari Smith Jr. Off
the bench?

Speaker 20 (01:16:16):
Uh, I try. I give it a shot because what
you're doing is not working. Jabari had missmatches all night.

Speaker 2 (01:16:26):
It worked, It worked three times in the series. What
are you talking about? He's got an extremely limited Jabari.
I mean, I love Jabari, but Jabari Sterling and thank
you for the call, is not You're not running your
offense through Jabari Smith. He doesn't put his back to
the basket. He is a straight up face to the
basket shooter. He's a perimeter guy. He may be six',
ten but he doesn't he his body in his frame

(01:16:48):
and his offensive skills AND i dictate getting in the low. Block,
yeah and to say that the The warriors don't care
about defense is just. WRONG i, Mean Draymond green was
locking down things in the. Paint Jimmy butler is a plus.
Defender Steph curry for for all the fun we make of,

(01:17:08):
him he played good defense in this. Series that defense
Of Golden state played it. Excellent Jalen, green think about
this ross even When jalen three point shot does not
drop during the regular. Season what Does jalen have the
enacted the ability to do slice and die through defenders
with the verse, layups get to the, lane get to
the free throw. Line they cut that. Off the only

(01:17:29):
person that hit any sort of regular other two People
apry to a certain, extent and a Men thompson later
in the. Series short of, That who went in the?
Paint Did fred Van blee go on the paint a?

Speaker 3 (01:17:39):
Lot not?

Speaker 2 (01:17:40):
Much Did Dylan brooks go in the blame very?

Speaker 5 (01:17:41):
Much?

Speaker 2 (01:17:42):
Nope Did Jabari? Smith? No Tyre? Easton you don't really count.
It woldn't shooting a whole lot of. Shots Golden state
defensively stepped. UP i don't want to say. That it
pisses me. Off they. Did, yeah and since trading For Jimmy,
butler they had the best defense in THE, Nba so
saying that they had no defense is just flat out. Falls.

(01:18:03):
Yeah all, right loven fifty, Seven the news at noon
is up. Next we'll get to. That we'll get. Too
can we skip one news? Item, WELL i can only
think of the two local. Ones is there anything else going?

club record tied By jake out of. Here what was
he you bet ninth On? Saturday, yeah he was at

(01:18:24):
the ninth. Spy it was like a historic game for
a Ninth it was like four extra base hits for
a nine hole. Hitter it only happened like a. Times all,
right those are you?

Speaker 10 (01:18:32):

a great. Compliment Go. Koog's what a fantastic koog Alum
Robert flores. Is of course we know headlining the news at,
noon it's gonna be The Houston rockets bouncing back in the.
Series down three to, one they Forced game seven at

(01:19:35):
home and unfortunately they fall. Short Jalen green with another
poor performance eight points for him on three of eight
shooting in thirty, minutes four rebounds and. Assist didn't turn
the ball, over but that's also because he wasn't handling
the ball. Much Jalen green not mincing words in the
postgame talking about his playoff performance.

Speaker 19 (01:19:56):
Size that one. Game, UH i gotta be better first.
Playoffs isn't an. Excuse, yeah that's gotta be.

Speaker 2 (01:20:08):
Better gotta be better first, playoffs not an. Excuse it
was AN s word that was. Bleeped that's Good green
describing we are our family radio. Station so that's the bleeping. Inappropriate,
yes a little bit, more Here's fred Van vliet talking
About Jalen green and what he can take away from
these poor performances in this, series just stuff to.

Speaker 21 (01:20:29):
Work on in the in the off, season fuel. Motivation
every great player has struggle at. Times every great player
had to learn how.

Speaker 2 (01:20:38):
To adjust and.

Speaker 21 (01:20:39):
Adapt the ultimate sign of respect from the opposing team
is to take him. Out we saw them do that
multiple games this. Series But jaysen's gonna be all, RIGHT
i don't AND i. Don't i'm not really online right,
now So i'm. NOT i keep hearing like the narratives
that are going, ON i haven't really seen much of,
it but, uh we're. Not we're not gonna make this About,

(01:20:59):
jayalen you know WHAT i. Mean he's he had an
incredible season this, year carried us a, lot made big,
strides play unbelievable, basketball and, obviously you, know in the
playoffs is.

Speaker 2 (01:21:10):
Tough you gotta find ways to be.

Speaker 21 (01:21:11):
Effective AND i believe in him AND i know that
he's going to use this this summer to get even
better and come back next year a better.

Speaker 2 (01:21:19):
Player. Man what a savvy event that. IS i, mean
he just SAID i got you on. This, yeah he
was an asshole series AND i had to start making shots
in the middle of the. Series because he couldn't make,
anything AND i can't believe he acted like such a
punk and went into a turtleshale all series long and
it was. Disappointing but at least he's got those millions

(01:21:40):
to sleep on. Tonight is that what he wanted to?
SAY i, Know, No fred is not A bs. Guy he's.
AUTHENTIC i, mean he's. Kidding i'm sure he's very disappointing
the way his teammate, performed BUT i do believe that
there was very LITTLE bs come out of.

Speaker 6 (01:21:56):
That.

Speaker 2 (01:21:56):
No, look you can convince yourself you can spend this
however what you. Want he's young and he's gonna get.
Better you can spend, that or this is who he. Is,
YEAH i guess, what who's gonna have to decide?

Speaker 4 (01:22:08):
That not?

Speaker 2 (01:22:08):
Us roughhel's done in The rockets are gonna have to
decide that an? EMAIL i, mean he's with him every single.

Speaker 1 (01:22:14):
Day so it's gonna come down to two really about
four people's, opinion and the rest of us can just
live in this conjecture where that we live.

Speaker 2 (01:22:22):
In, yes all, right, Elsewhere, matt we hadn't talked much
about The Houston. Astros, well they lost this series over
the weekend to The Chicago white. Sucks but how About
lance mccullor's junior making a.

Speaker 4 (01:22:34):
Start here comes the three to two to our gas
and he pops it up right side of the. Infield
rogers going out coming in as. Decent so It's rogers
who makes the, catch and the side is what's. Higher
So lance mccullors loads the bases with two, outs but
wiggles out of trouble.

Speaker 2 (01:22:51):
Later have you heard that? Before Vintage lance mccullor's junior three,
walks three hits and three and two thirds. Innings pitch
should have got to. Four there was a strike three
call missed on his last batter that he. Faced eighty
seven Pitches matt fifty one for strikes and four k's
in those four three and a two third excuse me. Innings,

(01:23:12):
YEAH i can't imagine if he goes three and two thirds,
again it's gonna be that high of a pitch. COUNT
i mean that should be four innings pitch in five.
K's that would have felt a lot. Nicer, yeah but mistakes.
Happened empires are not, perfect, Right, OH i, know it's.
Funny it was, like if we had, this it'd be
crazy if we had this technology to get every call
right and then we just refused to use, it wouldn't
that be? Wild but lancer. Colors, yeah here's the.

Speaker 1 (01:23:33):
Reality BUT i don't think it's going to be that
kind of of a wonky stat. Line, again but it
can't be because you're. Not remember you're in a six
mint rotation for for the next two or three. Weeks
if your starters are pitching that much and giving you
that little, production the bullpen's.

Speaker 2 (01:23:48):
Gonna be a massive. Trouble it's gonna be massively. Overworked,
WELL i imagine they're gonna try to get Him bilt
to be able to give up, it, like get to
at least a five or six. Innings he did throw
eighty seven. Pitches if he was a little bit more,
efficient he could easily gone four or five. Innings. Yeah,
well another story from the weekend on The Houston, astros
who is on a five game hit, streak who had

(01:24:09):
thirteen total bases On, saturday four for, four two home,
runs a, triple a, double seven runs batted, in and
then he followed that up as he got on base
every time he came to the plate On sunday with
a hit and a couple of. Walks Jake myers is
Your Houston astros batting average leader and Your Houston astros

(01:24:32):
ops leader for the. Season and how about this, Howball
it's get him a Little Major League Baseball player of
The week. Nomination, oh just saying thrown it out there
sounds good to. ME i don't think he's gonna Beat Aaron.
Judge Aaron judge is hitting four twenty. Three he's hitting
a home run baseball every time he comes to the.

(01:24:53):
Plate this is the first time in thirty six hours
of check the standings In America League's. West, Okay i'm
proud of, You, matt you know WHAT i am turning
the corner a little. Bit, oh we're in third place,
Now it's, Okay a's are in. Second it's still. Early
seattle is three in front Of houston The. West by the,
way The rangers have. Imploded they've dropped seven of. Ten
they are only four, backs so it's not. Terrible what

(01:25:16):
a just a meh version Of America League. West we
got this Year astros right now with only four everyday, players, no,
actually really, Three, DOCENZO i wouldn't count an every day
player with AN ops of over seven. Hundred how's your
on his? Hand by the, Way, oh, yes that's. RIGHT
i didn't mention that he missed a couple of games

(01:25:37):
over the weekend with a sore. Hand he heard it
in batting. Practice no, Update he's still listed as day to.
Day hopefully he can be back in there tonight as
The Houston astros take on The Milwaukee.

Speaker 1 (01:25:49):
Brewers that's, Right star have a three game. Series adams
will have the on deck all of the Tenth inning
show tonight and tomorrow one of THE nba, note sorry
About James harden seven points In game, Seven, hey the
one point for every game of the. Series the, Owner
Steve balmer had a charter full Of clipper fans to
go To. Denver, yeah to see their team personally get

(01:26:09):
their ass kicked in front of their home, fans And
James harden to out speak to the media for the
third time in the.

Speaker 2 (01:26:16):
Series ironically, enough all in those and. Losses you know
how it, Goes. Matt sometimes you want to chase your
dreams and you want to follow your team and watch
them get a, championship and you spend money and then
you just watch them fall. Short five hundred million dollars
in your piggy bank or one great game seven five hundred,
million me, Too that's What i'm gonna go. With well

(01:26:36):
elsewhere in THE, nba how about The Indiana pacers upsetting
The Cleveland cavaliers eight and a half point favorites were
The calves they lost by?

Speaker 1 (01:26:45):
NINE i WAS i almost did to tell the truth
on Taking indiana to win that, series BUT i couldn't
pull the.

Speaker 2 (01:26:50):
Trigger that would have been a. Lie right are? You
are you thinking about? It, okay you're on the. Fence,
Yeah indians is, good BUT i, Mean boston is the
best team in The east Since i'm even. CLOSE i
Think cleveland's been. GREAT i think they'll bounce. BACK i
still think they're gonna be able to win that. Series
IN nba action, tonight you do have The nuggets And
thunder game number, One knicks And celtics game number, one

(01:27:12):
both home teams nine and a half point favorites in those.
Games can THEN i get take it to six games
in that? Series six maybe If jokic is just, insane
which he, Is? Okay and who do you like in
The Clippers? WARRIOR i mean in The, Warriors, TIMBERWOLVES i don't.
CARE i like the. Earthquake i'm gonna take it the volcano. Minus,

(01:27:34):
well so you want a national catastrophe to interrupt the, Series,
YEAH i Mean i'll go to The. Timberwolves i'm gonna
be rooting against The warriors the rest of the. Way
i've had enough five times in ten freaking, years all.
Right Also Matt Intrepid Sports talk seven to ninety Reporter ADAM.

(01:27:55):
J wexler on the scene As cal And hannah McNair
discussing some considerations for a new practice facility slash headquarters
or a, stadium potentially somewhere else offside of where they
are in The Greater houston. Area your reaction told you
so the it's so.

Speaker 1 (01:28:17):
Strange twenty five years, ago everything was go to the inner.
City now in the last twenty five, years it's let's build.
Elsewhere chicago is gonna Be atlanta's how? Much, Okay atlanta
already went. Out chicago's gonna probably go. Out The cowboys went.

Speaker 2 (01:28:31):
Out, well anybody else go Out Atlanta state in the.
City Since i's looking for a new, STADIUM i Think
cleveland won't stay where they want to.

Speaker 1 (01:28:41):
Stay anybody else go outside of the. METRO i don't know,
well but that just gives you three examples right there
in the last fifteen.

Speaker 2 (01:28:48):
Years we'll have to see and keep it. Monitored the
situation as it's What i'm gonna monitor is How, callahan

Rota they follow me On, twitter don't even realize.

Speaker 2 (01:29:33):
It off, shore shady and they'll cut you off if
you're a. Winner so basically It's.

Speaker 1 (01:29:39):
Rota it's not going to be mentioned at, all But
i'm gonna mention anyway we can go with the. Line
they have a line on Where Jalen green will be
next year if he was to move From. Houston oh,
really just throwing it out, There uh. Huh lakers are
the Favorite, Lakers, nicks Then, Heat, Clippers, Warriors, Celtics thunder And.
Raptors this kind of is. Rando it is very.

Speaker 2 (01:29:59):
Random that is as random of a conversation piece you could.
Have there are no signs at this point The rockets
are willing to move. On from the matter of, fact
they just gave him an. Extension so if you, would
the leader would be for him to. Stay but, YEAH
i mean, again you're trying to generate some sort of,
action which would be stupid of you to try to.
Do but, yeah the teams that would be most of The,
lakers The, knicks in the heat of the top three

(01:30:21):
in that. Canay, Oh Bobby gordy's. Here what the hell
have you? Been oh you're supposed to be on a.

Speaker 5 (01:30:26):
Ten.

Speaker 2 (01:30:28):
Yeah the first all turning. Microphone it's he's got, It

that She's. Mo what's?

Speaker 3 (01:30:47):

Speaker 2 (01:30:48):
Okay she called. Herself all, Right i'm sorry about. BITS
i mean just BECAUSE i have an alias and mean
when you, know well it's it's on Her, instagram said her.
Name So i'm. Sorry oh you already on G i like.
It you were On instagram earlier.

Speaker 22 (01:31:01):
Today, wait wait till people find out your name is
not Really Ross fever, REAL i know stage.

Speaker 2 (01:31:07):
Name You're Darren. Williams, okay.

Speaker 10 (01:31:12):
Where are you?

Speaker 22 (01:31:13):
Going what do you? Got what do you wanna? Talk
you want to talk as, Crockets, WELL i don't. Know
you were at the game last. Night you have a good.

Speaker 2 (01:31:23):
TIME i.

Speaker 22 (01:31:23):
DID i thought the crowd was look THE t shirts
covering the. SEATS i thought was a great plan BECAUSE
i THOUGHT i. LOOKED i was, like it's sold out
here and those are chairs AND t shirts on. It
BUT i was, like it looks good ON tv to
do that more. Often BUT i thought it was, loud
the intros EVERYTHING i just, thought AND i was Telling

(01:31:44):
matt this before the. SHOW i thought they looked scared at,
top like the not shooting open. THREES i thought it
was like it was almost like you were scared to.
GO i don't want to be the guy who takes
the three and misses. IT i thought they were just,
hesitant and it's probably this kind of a young team
and guys playing their first playoff series so. Far and

(01:32:05):
THEN i thought The Kevon looney rotation piece threw Shehng gun.
Off there was more with him And draymond down. Low
that size Threw shingoon off and he was he was
taking bad angles because of that and because he dominated
Uh draymond this. Series like the first few, games he
was getting whatever he wanted down, low AND.

Speaker 2 (01:32:26):
I would disagree with, that but he dominated the Non draymond.
Minute when he got in foul trouble with when he
had five thousand was a game four IT i, thought
how many times was.

Speaker 22 (01:32:35):
Better Without draymond on the, floor he just Shout LIKE i,
thought When draymond was in, there he was doing what he.
Wanted but that last night it was Just looney in.
There just it clogged up the. Lane it almost looked
like that was their. Mom every time somebody's tried to
drive through the, rim there were three bodies down.

Speaker 2 (01:32:50):
There, yeah and they they you can pack the pin
against The, rockets force them to shoot threes because they're
not a good three point shooting, team and like you,
said they're a little bit tentative. There they were just, unorganized,
disjointed whatever you want to. Say it was Just i'll
go back to the word. Clunky it was just clunky.

Speaker 22 (01:33:04):
Offense they fought The, warriors fought hard to for every loose,
ball every. Rebound they Were there was just a, more
a little bit more of an intensity from. Them BUT
i thought The rockets overall played good, defense like they
did what they need to do.

Speaker 2 (01:33:16):
Defensively the offense was just not. Existing, yeah the open
threes For Buddy hill was the hardest thing to, Watch
curry making his, Shots Jimmy butler making the mid.

Speaker 22 (01:33:26):
Range but that was their mo, Right we're not gonna
Let curry kill. Us he was he Was buddy game
of his, life so be.

Speaker 2 (01:33:32):
IT i don't. Know you always say that before the,
game and then when it happened to, go you Let
buddy he'll beat. Us that's that's What i'm. Thinking i'm
nine of eleven from. Three it's a top ten draft.
Pick it's not like he's some he's a great three point.
Shooter he's a great complimentary piece and often TRAVELED nba.

Speaker 1 (01:33:50):
Player but man final sweet spot and not for, him

(01:38:13):
MAN i hear everybody down and rightfully. Show BUT i,
mean let's be, honest we had a great, season, uh
an amazing. Season but did we really expect to take
it all the way this? YEAR i mean it was gonna,
happen whether it be first, round second.

Speaker 7 (01:38:27):
ROUND i, mean as much AS i love.

Speaker 23 (01:38:29):
These, ROCKETS i did not see yes taking it all
the way this. Year and to be, honest, man this, series,
uh The, warriors besides the three point, shooting The warriors
had something that The rockets lacked, tremendously and that's. Experienced
you know WHAT i. Mean we we they they they've been,
there they've done, that they're, champions they got multiple multiple

(01:38:50):
m vps on their. TEAM i, mean you, know it's
it is what it.

Speaker 3 (01:38:53):
Is.

Speaker 23 (01:38:53):
Man we showed, up we showed, out but it didn't you,
know work out for us in the. END i want
to say that The, Uh i'm really looking forward to
the off. Season one thing that we do have on
our side is youth and talent and. Time you, know
the guy who was our core is twenty five and,
under you know WHAT i. Mean so it's it's gonna

(01:39:16):
be amazing to see how these guys. Develop and my
last question IS i want to, Know ross And, matt
what do you guys really want to see happen this?

Speaker 3 (01:39:25):
Offseason? Gat thank you all?

Speaker 1 (01:39:27):
Right well answer that question coming back because we want
to get to our. Break but it's a great. Question
what do you want to see.

Speaker 2 (01:39:37):
When do we come? Back we come? Back, YEAH i
just there's so many thoughts across from my mind right
now about. That uh, huh BECAUSE i could really go
in about three or four different. Directions matt CAN i
give you two. Scenarios are you okay with? That or
do you need me to be? Definitive and, oh you
can give me two? Scenarios all, right you, promise, okay thank?

Speaker 1 (01:39:52):
You seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five SEVEN Ainti we'll
talk To, Dave, James, Philippe Stephen.

Speaker 2 (01:39:59):
Biscuit do not going where one line is. Available you
want to come in and join, Us get on the.
List we want to talk with, you. Folks twelve thirty
Four Sports, talk seven Ninety The Matt Tamas Show That
ross continues seven one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one three two one two five SEVEN Nineti
Astros baseball tonight on deck five. Thirty first, PITCH i
think it's at about six. Forty let me make sure

(01:40:21):
you get the first pitch. Right you, know These central
time zone people do really weird things. Here first pitch
tonight is at six, forty which Means i'll have the
tenth inning show after that and tonight and, tomorrow and
then we have a day game On, wednesday and then
they have a day Off. Thursday then The Cincinnati reds
are in town for a weekend. SERIES i like this
new schedule by the way that you play everybody at

(01:40:41):
least once per, year you balance the things. Out oh,
yeah look you can anytime you get The cincinnati Reds
intown you'll take it. True all. Right so the previous
question that was, asked and we can go back to
the phones for, this, yes only you out the. Options
the options are big game, hunting trade a lot of

(01:41:03):
your pieces and picks for a. Superstar here's what scares.

Speaker 1 (01:41:07):
Me there are examples around THE nba that he have
gone all in on the megastars m and it does
long term damage to, You phoenix And milwaukee being two of.

Speaker 2 (01:41:19):
Them let's look at the top teams in THE. Nba
cleveland did make a big trade For Donovan mitchell, yep
and they also drafted well that has paid. Off Boston,
CELTICS i would say is mostly. Internal those The Jaylen
brown And Jason, tatum they were their draft. Picks but
they did trade For. Porzingis BUT i would say the
core of that team was a lot of it was
built to the. Draft AND i would say the same

(01:41:39):
for The Oklahoma City. Thunder all The thunder built you
have built through. Draft no freightens go, there and you
also make the deal of a lifetime Snagging Paul george
from The clippers or to The clippers and GETTING sga
back in. Return Denver nuggets built through the, Draft lakers
are Out Minnesota timberwolves made a huge trade For Rudy.
Gobert they're still in it as. Well kind of a,

(01:42:00):
mix And Anthony edwards was built of the. Draft, YES
i don't mean a huff and puff Because i'm not
trying to kill time, here BECAUSE i really. Am i'm
very torn on the. SITUATION i will say, THIS.

Speaker 1 (01:42:19):
I would have serious conversations about the two most talked
about free, agents the non, frightens the two most talked
about trade pieces out. THERE i would have serious, conversations
BUT i don't want them to break the, bank especially
on one of, them because that, one the one In,

(01:42:40):
phoenix is thirty. Seven, defensively not the player that he
was still turns the ball over is.

Speaker 2 (01:42:47):
INJURY i would say at this point in his, career
he's probably injury. PRONE i guess you can call it
thirty seven year old and prone to injury anybody thirty? Seven,
Yeah SO i WOULD i wouldn't give up the farm on.
That how much would it take to get the other
big man? Again, also we're talking About ifiannis is even
going to be even up FOR i, mean honest may,

(01:43:08):
Say i'm going to ready to bring it back here In.
Milwaukee he has to ask for a, trade, right anybody
else that would be thought. Of, now there could be
some free agents that we don't we're not thinking of
because we won't see the free agent. LIST i would,
okay leaning towards let's go for, it BECAUSE i think
em adok is so widely respected on THE nba that

(01:43:30):
he would be able to get the type of player
that he would want. There and that type of player
coming here would, absolutely under all, circumstances understand what would
be expected of him if he was being, run if
he was being coached By. Yumantoka, well it will be
a FORMER NBA mvp available on the free agent market
if He if he opts, out, OH i know what
you're talking, about and that ain't. Happening he's got a big. Beard,

(01:43:54):
No i'm, Good i've already had enough frustrations In game.
Sevens Lebron james could opt out. Too lebron could opt.
Out could also could say, no thank you To Los. Angeles.
Kyrie irvin can opt. Out, yeah But kyrie's. Hurt oh that's.
Right Uh. Ross this is gonna be AND i don't
know how much this is going to impact our. Show
this could be the, craziest craziest offseason we haven't quite

(01:44:17):
some time in THE. Nba it'll be very interesting to
see how it. Unfolds let's go To felipe. Min it
made park at twelve thirty eight, High, felipe it's going
on Guards, HI.

Speaker 15 (01:44:30):
I don't.

Speaker 16 (01:44:31):
KNOW i love And i'm not gonna take that. AWAY i,
MEAN i know we lost and we had a good
seaton To. WARRIORS i would have took the loss against
any other team besides The, warriors but.

Speaker 19 (01:44:42):
It had to be against.

Speaker 16 (01:44:43):
This but everybody has to look at a positive that
what we finished fifty, fifth it is what it is
here and now we're what are we fifty six wins this?

Speaker 2 (01:44:52):
Year fifty two fifty?

Speaker 10 (01:44:54):
Two?

Speaker 16 (01:44:54):
OKAY i mean either, way it's STILL i, mean he's
moving in the right.

Speaker 2 (01:44:59):
Direction that's WHAT i.

Speaker 16 (01:45:00):
Like we're, young we still have time to build positive
and it's being trading. Them I'M i don't, KNOW i
would see it, happening BUT i doubt.

Speaker 19 (01:45:07):
It, jenn give him another.

Speaker 2 (01:45:09):
Year if he doesn't perform.

Speaker 16 (01:45:10):
Like how he, does like how we expect him to,
perform then is that the guy develops?

Speaker 13 (01:45:14):
Her you know he's not that.

Speaker 16 (01:45:14):
Guy BUT i will say two. Things there's jan at my.
Funeral i'm gonna bite the rockets so they can let
me down one last.

Speaker 10 (01:45:22):
Time oh.

Speaker 1 (01:45:26):
Be, nice good lord Filipe let's talk To dave in
spring of twelve Forty, dave thank you for holding in
good afternoon there.

Speaker 24 (01:45:35):
GOOD i mean you guys haven't talked too much About
jabbari a, little and we talked about Afternoon johnny and
so young and guys still have you, know sealings and
room to develop and.

Speaker 10 (01:45:46):
Such this. Team hurry is an interesting.

Speaker 24 (01:45:48):
Player you, know he missed part of this, season so
it's doing you, Know jabari, Interrupted BUT i liked what
we got From jabbari in this. Series he wasn't on
The florida Alv it was kind of but you, know
he's probably one of the better shooters on This he
maybe the stat up much back it, UP i don't,
know but he has a nice.

Speaker 10 (01:46:04):
Release he looks like a. Shooter he's a shooter in.

Speaker 24 (01:46:06):
College don't quite that he could, be you, know kind
of a strong number three on a very good, team
sort of A I wonder type, guy even Or Horace
grant kind of.

Speaker 10 (01:46:15):
Guy, uh if you had the Right Chris bosh for
one and the number two.

Speaker 2 (01:46:18):
Spots, Yeah i'm all at you're. Run we got a?
Connection is gonna? Spotty that's Too, yeah that's probably phone
calls in a. ROW i think it's r and we
apologize because we use internet and not really We, yeah
we've moved to web based phones and they can be.
SPOTTY i think the last two calls were were affected by.
THAT i Like. JABARI i don't Think jabari is the
third go to. THREAT i MEAN i WANT i Want

(01:46:40):
jabar in the. TEAM i think it's a role for. Him,
defensively hits the mid range is three point. Shot it
got significantly. Better they're just they're there's just not enough
offense from me on a consistent. Basis, SAID i think
he's my third guy this, game the game would have to.
Go he could be a third best PAY i think he.
Could you're we're talking about fifteen points a game something

(01:47:02):
like that for your third. Guy you're not talking about
top twenty. Five, okay so if you're giving me fifteen
out of the, THIRD i could live with.

Speaker 5 (01:47:07):
That.

Speaker 2 (01:47:07):
Absolutely, yeah he averaged twelve points a game this year
if he continues to miss him when he was hurt
with the broken, Hand, yes he they, did and he
was looking like as far as the confidence and maybe
we're just saying this is just because the shots were going,
in but he was knocking down everything in this. Series
he was, huge and he's got that little spot up
game where if there is a mismatch In Steph curry

(01:47:28):
or somebody shorters on, him he can get that turnaround
jumper with Relative jabari shot fifty percent from the floor
in forty six from. Three that's. Outstanding the only thing
that Probably jabari doesn't have for, You and no one
said he was going to ever have that for guy
that six.' ten he's got no back to the. Basket game, he,
said well he's only back to. The ad it's only
a turnaround jump. Right right he's not making, hook shots

(01:47:49):
he's not he's Not doing alprin shingoon. Footwork stuff and
if he could get that into, his game build up
a little bit of, a strength that would that Would
extremely that would be extremely helpful for. His versatility, and,
Again person i'm a fan OF HIS I i i
like the development of his game since the first time he, came, here,
because frankly he probably did in the first season he wanted.
To have but he's. Gotten better the shooting percentage. Is

(01:48:11):
better he's always counted on now for two or three makes.
Per game it just the question is can he take
his offensive game up a notch to get to that
fifteen sixteen seventeen? Point range. Mm HMM and i think.
That's good that's probe of the first that's. First thing
he's probably thinking of it at this. Point too, all
right twelve Forty Two sports talk. Seven ninety if you
want to, jump in we've got two. Lines available come

(01:48:31):
in and talk to us if. You'd like we have
an enjoyed tech talking with you at seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven, one, three two
one two five.

Speaker 1 (01:48:40):
Seven ninety it's twelve. Forty three It's A matt thomas
Show with ross and he goes Over to ross to
get you feeling better about.

Speaker 2 (01:48:45):
Your sies, some growth, some good.

Speaker 3 (01:48:49):
Some bad obviously a.

Speaker 8 (01:48:52):
Four ending it could play, you know one of our
worst games in the in, the playoffs in the in, game,
seven oh we had a few bad ones early and
kind of correct did ourselves from there in a lot
of ways.

Speaker 2 (01:49:01):
On both sides of. The ball and then to come
out a little bit.

Speaker 8 (01:49:04):
Flat tonight obviously that's gonna leave us our taste in
our mouth. For sure but you look at big picture
of the growth that. We made, you know we just
said no moral victories. Or whatever we could be much,
more consistent but getting too the two seed and fifty
whatever wins and the growth that guys have showed kind
of have a blueprint for where we want to be
and the standard on the ear of. Your basis but

(01:49:26):
while that doesn't really matter when you go out with
the chance to move on obviously. In advance and, you
KNOW like, i said kind of laying an egg in our,
Last game i'm gonna sting for.

Speaker 2 (01:49:36):
A minute so, you look you had a blueprint out
when the blueprint is in front, of you and if
for those of you, that architects can you eve us answered,
this question do you make subtle changes or do, you,
go well let's move this roof over to this side of,
the house this part of the house do you add a?
Bedroom here do you put? It here that was? Doing that?
Thank you construction is ahead, of schedule or at least,

(01:50:01):
it was but it bogged down in the.

Speaker 1 (01:50:03):
First round do you add a in home feeder or
do you make an extra? Spare bedroom, all right enough
of this picture? Too far how about a.

Speaker 2 (01:50:14):
Gazebo Outside if i'd have told you before this season fifty,
two wins two seed out in seven games in the,
first round you would, have said yes or, no way,
no hand that's not going. To happen are you giving that?
TO me i would. HAVE said i would, have said
that's a, decent season that's above it's ahead. Of, expectation

(01:50:35):
yeah but you would think that two seed, Could win
but you weren't taking on a normal. Seven seed so
let me ask you the average human being when it comes.
To patients this Is a rocket team has been patient for,
five years built of. The, draft yes made.

Speaker 1 (01:50:55):
A couple of interesting free agent signings this past two,
years ago did nothing this pass? All season how itchy
is the trigger finger for the upper brass Of the?
Rockets organization do, they go we know what we are
and can't wait to see what comes back? Next year
or did you open up a wound with some people

(01:51:16):
on this team, to say you, know what we need to.
Be better we were able to have success and we
think we can. Have more we know who our, core
is we know who our. Untouchables are let's go see
what else is. Out there because they've not done the super,
Mega trade they've made those side deals Like Getting steven
adams for all those second, round picks, genius move the

(01:51:38):
trade Involving The phoenix suns that got the first round picks,
from them big.

Speaker 2 (01:51:41):
Time MOVE if i had to guess just, right now a,
gut feeling it will be a rotational, player trade but
not a superstar player trade will. Be made there will
be a little bit of shifting around somebody who can
shoot and play. SOME defense i, would yeah if you

(01:52:06):
if you had a. BETTING line i don't think either
You know Who in phoenix Or You know Who in
milwaukee would be. Coming HERE but i also believe they're
going to take the phone calls and they're gonna have
deep conversations.

Speaker 3 (01:52:20):
About it.

Speaker 2 (01:52:21):
Mm hm, BUT yeah i could SEE a i don't
want to throw at NAMES because i don't want TO
do i don't want to runestly, throw, me oh is
You're a rockets, GUY said i don't a mid level
exception type perimeter shooter, coming here and a concerted effort
To Give reed shepherd every opportunity to be in the rotation.

(01:52:43):
Next season Man If reed shepherd could, take over be
a good, point guard, knockdown threes basically take over the
reins Of what Fred van vliet, gets you that would.

Speaker 21 (01:52:51):
Be.

Speaker 2 (01:52:51):
Huge, yeah yeah. It's.

Speaker 1 (01:52:56):
FUNNY uh I Mean new York Post jalen green trade
talk start Immediately after Rockets Loss kevin.

Speaker 2 (01:53:03):
DURANT intrigue, i mean it's you. Can go it will
take you one Second on google on a search to
see that names are being. Brought up.

Speaker 3 (01:53:12):
THAT'S.

Speaker 2 (01:53:12):
The nba it's a nature OF.

Speaker 3 (01:53:13):
The nba.

Speaker 2 (01:53:15):
The, question, is If indeed jalen has brought up in,
trade conversation is there a team IN the. NBA going
i saw what he Did. In houston i'm gonna put
him in a better spot that he's in there that
that's not gonna HAPPEN when i need him to be
my number. One, guy look all you gotta do is
Flip On jalen green's highlight reel and you can. Convince himself,
convince yourself the dude's going to be. A, superstar yeah
the highlight reel is. Superstar quality it's still thirty, point,

(01:53:38):
games yeah and lots of games where he takes over
and scores fourteen. Of seventeen hey Crushes the wizards for forty.
Every time But the wizards ain't in. The playoffs that's.
THE problem, I mean i don't have. A memory great
one OF all i know is the right he has
struggled Against the warriors and didn't sell in the. Regular
season so this is not a complete shock that he

(01:53:59):
Struggled against golden's because it's good and he did not
have great success against. HIM before, i, mean uh it
would be too simplistic to Say that jalen just got
fat and happy off of the second. Tier. Teams right
you're telling me he didn't Play the, lakers well he
didn't Play against dallas. Very well he didn't play very
well Against The cleveland cavaliers Of The boston selex of.
The world is that what you're? Telling me if, you are,

(01:54:19):
You ARE but, I mean, i, MEAN look i would
imagine he's had some good games against some. Good TEAMS
but i don't think he's, been consistent at least to
me in. His career let's Go To los angeles steven
on seven On, he steven, good morning good afternoon. To you,
hey guys how's it. GOING good.

Speaker 25 (01:54:38):
I just wanted To say I'm glad i'm not a,
betting MAN because i was certain If they Rockets won,
game six that they Would win, game seven, and uh
instead we got a pretty much a carbon Copy of game.
One easily and for for, my money the loss that
hurt the most was poor because, you know you were

(01:54:58):
up by what was it seven or eight, at time.

Speaker 10 (01:55:00):
And then they just went into that game plane.

Speaker 25 (01:55:02):
Offensive coman the third quarter where they couldn't score and
then they chance to at least tie the game at
the at.

Speaker 2 (01:55:09):
The end, but uh pretty.

Speaker 25 (01:55:11):
Still had a significant that they were able to go
basically seven games without really having a, you know a
shooting guard for six. Of them but, You know i'll,
SAY this i, would point, you know, KIND of i
was obviously upset, last night really wanted.

Speaker 4 (01:55:26):
That WIN.

Speaker 25 (01:55:28):
But I think i've talked myself into trusting. The process,
you know there's a lot of stuff that this team
can work on in the.

Speaker 10 (01:55:34):
Off season, you know.

Speaker 25 (01:55:36):
YOU shinn i think they did last night that he
was he was really bad around the rim. This year,
you know he's got to work on. His mention he's
not going to be aggressive towards. The, basket yeah and,
Then Uh I'M monjutch i, would say don't shoot, any
threes just work on your. Jump, shot uh it has to,
you know around.

Speaker 2 (01:55:53):
The, paint yeah we're gonna let. You run said. Thank
you as a. Phone, call again the connection continues to
suck because our company doesn't use real. Phone lines but
it's a different issue for a. Different time.

Speaker 1 (01:56:04):
You have to have three point shooting in this IN today's,
Nba world if you don't have three, point shooters you're in.

Speaker 2 (01:56:09):
Massive. Trouble yeah maybe as far as you can on.
Your defense but they Need they and this is the
question is where does that shooting. Come From Does Jabari
smith junior? Get Better Does jalen green did get incrementally
better as a three point shooter up to thirty, five
percent Which Is jabari jabari is interesting because there are
guys that are six ten stretch fours that knock down

(01:56:30):
four five three. Per game it can. Absolutely, happen yes
are you giving him starters minutes to, do, it though
you would, have to and then that means who does?
COME out, i Mean Would dylan brooks be part of
a trade package that you would make and That Inserts
Jabari smith junior into the. Starting lineup you really don't
want to take a man out of, the lineup but
when you have two non shooting threats in the. Starting

(01:56:51):
lineup we talked about this Before a men had a
great last three three games or whatever, it was when
he was five to sixteen on the road and was
that game three With With jimmy. Butler out we were
talking about Possibly Putting Jabari smith junior in the starting
lineup for a little bit of. That spacing but OF
course i wont To min thomson is aggresive and getting

(01:57:13):
to the basket and knocking down. His shots all that talk. Went,
AWAY man i would love to be a fly on.
THE wall i just WOULD because i could feel like
EVERY day i could wake up with a different philosophy.
Like today my, guess is if you were to pour
Trucerum down Email and, rafel's throat they'd, probably say you,

(01:57:33):
know what let's go start talking.

Speaker 1 (01:57:35):
Right now But then jalen can come in, and, SAY
hey i want to spend the. Entire offseason i'm going
to watch. That tape i'm gonna learn. By it i'm
gonna be the guy that can give you twenty three points.
Per night alpi's gonna come in, and, Say hey i'm
the type of guy that's gonna go. In there i'm
gonna Go to turkey and work out with my guys
AGAIN like i did the last couple, of Years and
i'm gonna make that mid.

Speaker 2 (01:57:53):
Range shot i'm gonna be able to better. Jump hook
i'm gonna have less uh not tim and, less finesse
more power to. The, basket yeah THAT'S what i want
From ALP and i Do love, albi's GAME but i want.
The force he's six eleven and he's. Two sixty he
can move people around this fadeaway foot and, left foot flamingo.

(01:58:17):
Stuff whatever that's not What the. ROCKETS want i think
it's okay to hit, the midrange it's okay to beat
the free. Throw, line yeah but you've got to be
able to use your footwork to. Your ADVANTAGE and i
think there's even more that can be done in this
IN his, nba career in that he's gonna have to
continue to, get stronger which, he can he's only twenty two.
Years old but also the question you have to ask
yourself if you're a trust, the process internal. Growth guy

(01:58:40):
if we're trusting, the process they can grow to me
to get better than what they show to Miss, the
warriors they can Beat. The timberwolves but If rafel stone's
goal is to be better than, the THUNDER then i
think that is when you need to start talking about
superstar players from. Another team If If oklahoma city is
the bar and they are the best team in the

(01:59:02):
league and there's nobody, Even close Like if denver doesn't
give a, presented, challenge huh And Either golden State or
minnesota doesn't present, A challenge you're sitting there going That's
A oklahoma city team has won sixty, five games they're all,
under contract they've spent, their, money well they still got
draft picks. Coming up you might have to realistically think

(01:59:22):
about shaking. Things up but Let's say, denver Surprises Or
golden state or for that Man in. Minnesota surprises do you, Didn't,
say well so it's a wide. Open mix and WHY
would i want to screw things Up if i've already
got a good core already. In place all eight teams
left in the playoffs have an a one type, of
guy a one closer, Franchise player and twenty five years

(01:59:47):
ago you didn't have to. Have that you, DO now,
i think unless you're just trying, To, go oh four
pistons with a bunch of really. Good, players yeah who played.
Great defense that was a one time one. Years, ago
yeah One O'clock sports talk. Seven ninety weve got another
hour left to. Go ross what is today's Edition? To
believe we're not coming up in fifty, short minutes.

Speaker 3 (02:00:05):
All right.

Speaker 2 (02:00:07):
We're thinking about how we're gonna handle believe or, not
today and nothing's coming. To mind that's. Really good everything
was coming up is. Coming Up, Bad warriors Buddies for? Buddy,
healed buddy guys still kicking it like an, EIGHTY eight, i, Think,
Really yeah buddy is. Long dead oh may? HE rest

(02:00:30):
I hope. Buddy healed buddy. Freaking healed can you play
a couple? OF highlights i do know we get them.
In here listen. To this how EXASPERATE and i sound trying?
To play how Exasperated? Is? Matt okay? How many How
Many buddy heal highlights we got. IN there i. Don't
know here's one Of The jimmy butler field on a.

(02:00:51):
Hand Off the Pachemski took butler with three and a
half remaining Of the rockets, Down twelve butler right Side
Against jalen green. Left side it turns, white elbow sixteen
foot shot up In And jimmy butler's put the go
to the last four points and maybe enough to Seal
A golden. State win. Seventy four you. Sound sad Here's
A buddy Healed one healed right side three pointer that's

(02:01:13):
on the way, and Good And buddy healed is trying
to Advance the warriors Of The. Western, semis no he's.
Not surprised. There's surprised just couldn't miss. My Buddy tim
roy is the voice Of. The warriors just took a
picture of. The plane they're Going. To minneapolis, block them

(02:01:33):
block And report curry across. Mid court they have eight
they have six. Deals Themselves tonight rockets has turned it over.
Eleven times curry straight on deep three up in good
And The Golden state warriors are gonna win. THIS series
i have so many cheesy seventy songs we can play

(02:01:56):
during this. Entire, HOUR no i don't want to play any.

Speaker 3 (02:01:58):
Of them.

Speaker 2 (02:01:59):
Anything depressed this is depressing. As, hell well let's look At.
The astros at least they lost the weekend serious To The.
White sox. It's, great yeah did they get screwed by,
the rain by, the way and they would have lost
that game probably anyways because of. The, bets, Well Actually
jake myers was. Another opportunity anything. Could, happen yeah you
you kept not nine hole hitter in your bench and
you couldn't get out there when the Rain Was jake,

(02:02:20):
myers like let me, Add, him baby let me. Add
him they were trying To keep. Jake down what's his?
Ops now it's over, eight hundred he's hitting three. OH
three i think do we say? All star He's got
he's got. My vote gotta have at least one eight
o seven ops ops plus by, the way. That's great

(02:02:42):
seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five. Seven nine and let's
Talk to biscuit on. This, program biscuit, good afternoon thanks
For holding.

Speaker 3 (02:02:53):
Hey afternoon.

Speaker 14 (02:02:53):
My, brothers hey let me let me get a first
go about, over there seriously just came through. To ME
and I know gordy said, about loony but, to me
the deal last Night Was draymond green had his best
game in.

Speaker 3 (02:03:07):
The series that made.

Speaker 14 (02:03:10):
A difference that made, a difference you KNOW what.

Speaker 15 (02:03:13):
I mean not To Mention.

Speaker 14 (02:03:14):
Buddy hill we all know that they all them open
threes that kept given and knowing this due to, the
Score but draymond had his best game of, the series
and that was an impact on this game.

Speaker 7 (02:03:26):
Going.

Speaker 14 (02:03:26):
Forward though, You know i've been Always team. Let's stay,
of course now a lot of people trying to make
this is.

Speaker 5 (02:03:33):
The deal me and, my buddy we we put it
in the thing.

Speaker 14 (02:03:36):
And try to see how what trades would be feasible
and what they would be. Looking at and so the
whole deal is what you have to give up to.
Get somebody and if you have to give up too
much Save, for giannas now You, got milwaukee but it's Just,
in houston you Know what. I'm, saying So, like yana
trade would have To Be jalen jabari With more.

Speaker 7 (02:04:01):
Shepherd and three.

Speaker 14 (02:04:02):
Draft picks you wouldn't do. ALL that i don't know.
ABOUT that kd would have To. BE brooks i BELIEVE
you're bori and some DRAFT picks i, don't know you
KNOW what, I mean kd's. Thirty six the ideal guy

(02:04:23):
to me Would. Be booker but are they willing to give?

Speaker 2 (02:04:25):
Him up they have said, Religiously no but that could
be a little bit of lip. Service too it.

Speaker 14 (02:04:33):
Would help if the pick we got from them as
a top, four pick maybe then. We could but this
is let me ask you. This question this is THE
question i want to ask You in. Ross, though yeah
let's look outside. The box so let's say we're trying
to basically what look like most people trying. To do
they trying To replace jalen with somebody else that's more
of a. Consistent score so what if we're Talking About

(02:04:56):
zach Levine for jalen straight Up Or kobe White. For
jalen these are the type OF guys, i think you
know you're talking about along.

Speaker 2 (02:05:07):
That line why Would they why would the bulls?

Speaker 14 (02:05:10):
DO that, i mean because they haven't. Been anywhere and
if you gave him a, draft pick, maybe.

Speaker 2 (02:05:17):
Yeah then and then maybe You're talking yeah you said straight,
Up originally so that's why we were kind of curious,
about that, you know.

Speaker 14 (02:05:22):
Straight up far. As players, you know, you know we
got all those. EXTRA picks i don't Think the rockets
want to.

Speaker 2 (02:05:26):
Keep adding you'd have to give him a probably a first,
round pick if not. A, Couple Uh kobe white would.
Be great he's averaged twenty. A game he's he was
a good three. Point Shooter zach levine. AS well i
would take, those DEALS but i don't know That The chicago. Bulls.

Speaker 14 (02:05:40):
Would yeah, to me the best deal is Probably the
state pack and just hope, you, Know okay jalen the
average twenty one, this year maybe he gets up to.
Twenty three maybe THE guy i think it's gonna get
the biggest jump, next year it's Gonna. Be Thompson so
thompson could be a twenty point a. Game SCORE and
I think i threw it out there, last week Lots

(02:06:02):
about thompson being the point three and then, You know
i'm not saying him being a, point guard but be
the point three And let thompson, kind of, you know
facilitate things and Then let jalen them.

Speaker 7 (02:06:13):
Come off.

Speaker 14 (02:06:14):
The picks the biggest thing the ross are you going
to pick up that team Option On van fleet that's forty?

Speaker 2 (02:06:20):
FOUR million i think they're going to try to renegotiate
a long term deal that that's not at a, higher like,
you know three years ninety million or three years. SEVENTY
five i don't know exactly what he would take or
what it, would take, but yeah they're going to get
that number lowered and then and break it down into.
MORE years i. WOULD bet i.

Speaker 14 (02:06:36):
Would bet that's Why man fleet can't be involved in.
A trade i think it's because of the team option deal.

Speaker 2 (02:06:43):
Or, whatever well they would they would to pick up
the option and then they would trade him if they
were to. Use THAT but i can't imagine another team
wanting to pick up forty million dollars for. One, year. Yeah,
EXACTLY yeah i DON'T think i think there's too.

Speaker 1 (02:06:54):
Much admiration Thank you biscuit for the. PHONE call i
gotta roll some. OTHER folks i think there's too much
admiration on. BOTH sides I think fred has a role
with this. Basketball team he has A veteran moxi, you
need you like to have an aged. Back age. HE'S thirty,
i mean, COME on i think you want a guy
that's been there and. DONE that i don't think the
minutes necessarily would be as much as he's had in

(02:07:15):
the last. FEW years i don't think you want him
taking twelve to thirteen shots, a game but there are
nins where he can help. You out, and frankly if
this series would not have been extendedive not for The Worker.

Speaker 2 (02:07:25):
Fred, VanVleet yeah i think it's very clear they want.
Him back here's What you dooka had to say about it.

Speaker 3 (02:07:29):
Last.

Speaker 8 (02:07:30):
Night, YEAH absolutely i think. BOTH sides i want to
be HERE and i want. Him here, you know from,
day ONE as i talked about the importance, of him,
you know at the point, guard position kind of leading
us in a lot of ways and allowing guys to
grow at the same time and understanding you know what he,
walked into what he signed with and and you know
he's he's part of our growth. In general and so,

(02:07:52):
YOU know i love everything, he's done, you know perfect
combination of of, on ball off ball for our guards
and our young guys. To grow AND obviously i love
to him BACK on i think The, Feelings.

Speaker 2 (02:08:03):
Mitchell YEAH and i don't think that's.

Speaker 1 (02:08:05):
LIP service i can you can kind of read to
the lines when somebody wants somebody gone or thinking about.
CHANGE something I think i don't know if he wants
it back at the, dollar AMOUNT but i think there
is a thought of EXTENSION because I think i Don't
think fred wants to be bouncing around the rest of.
His career and he's never told, me THAT but i
just my FEELING is i think he's very comfortable here,
in town and he's still got some some, shelf life that's.

Speaker 7 (02:08:25):
For sure.

Speaker 2 (02:08:29):
They don't make it as far in the series as
they did. Without, him no, all right one To Fourteen
sports talk seven ninety will Talk to steve And to
james and anybody else that wants to jump in on.
The conversation seven one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one, three two one two five seven ninety
One Twenty sports talk.

Speaker 1 (02:08:45):
Seven ninety let's continue on the phones and go To
uh james. Next Time, seveny james thanks for waiting in,
Good Afternoon, Hello, james.

Speaker 2 (02:08:57):
James not waiting, All, right james. Appreciate you thanks. For
listening let's Go, To Steven missouri city at. One Twenty,
hi steve.

Speaker 5 (02:09:07):
Good afternoon Thank you max for taking taking.

Speaker 26 (02:09:10):
My, Call sure i'm confused and kind of, You know
i've watched every game for the last years With, the
Rockets and. I'm baffled i'm BAFFLED as i if you
don't have shooters consistently to why wouldn't you go to
the bench And play jabbari a? Lot more that's one

(02:09:31):
of the. Hitting problems the second issue in terms. Of
trade listened to the former last call to talk. About trade,
right now you have another player On the rockets that's for,
Whatever Reason cam cam and on, the rundown and the
Other guard jalen you can package them up, for it

(02:09:52):
and the thoughts in reference, to that, all.

Speaker 2 (02:09:55):
Right, Thank. You steve i'm sorry we're still having phone.
Issues here but HE was i think he Was Asking
cam Whitmore And jalen green package him up for a,
good player and then Why Not Jabarry smith junior more
minutes or more shots.

Speaker 7 (02:10:07):
Or both.

Speaker 2 (02:10:09):
Jabari played, Twelve minutes he was one, of five he
knocked down one. To three he got a Lot Of
steven adams action off. The bench he played twenty, six
minutes only sixteen Minutes. For tari it was mostly run with,
the starters Except For, jalen green who didn't get as.
Much run forty four Minutes for Fred. VAN vliet i

(02:10:32):
thought that A mean thompson would play some more minutes in.
THE fourth i thought he sat for a lot more
TIME than i. Was expecting his lange was. HURTING him
i think he had a pretty noticeable limp that was
part of. The reason that could be part, of IT
but i don't think the answer Was More Jabari. SMITH junior,
i mean he was one for five in. The game
he's decent when he's when he's knocking, down shots but

(02:10:53):
he's hit. Or miss he's not going to be a
part of the the engine of. THE offense i would
put him in the same Category As. Dylan brooks some
nights he can go for twenty. Twenty, five yeah but
it's not gonna. Be consistent it's gonna be whether or
not his shots are. Going in it's predicated. On that
he's not a a an. Offense starter you're not running
your Offense Around. Jabartsmith, junior now does it leave his
hand better today than it was when he first?

Speaker 3 (02:11:14):
Got?

Speaker 15 (02:11:15):
Here.

Speaker 2 (02:11:15):
Absolutely yeah that was the book of him coming Out.
Of auburn he was supposed to be a dead, eye
shooter and he was not good his, first year made
a leap in his, second YEAR and i think shot
thirty five percent from three this year regressed a little
bit from. LAST year i. Just good he's, a nice
complimentary player who gives you professional work on both ends of.
The floor he's, young man, he's YOUNG and i love the.

(02:11:37):
Young ones you KNOW how i feel about.

Speaker 7 (02:11:39):
Young uns.

Speaker 2 (02:11:41):
And clip. That one he's. Twenty one he will be
twenty two in. A week happy. Early birthday next bar
is only. Twenty One, next tuesday he will be twenty two. Years,
old wow these guys. Are babies they're. Absolutely babies see
That's what. I'm saying you can convince yourself at, Twenty
Three jalen green, Twenty Two upria ching goon ONE and
I think I'm in thompson, twenty one JUNY and i

(02:12:02):
don't disagree. With that but there are guys that at
that age and that experience that have already taken that.
Big LEAP and i think that's where people are, going
well especially With J On jalen, green's side but there's
also GUYS who, I, mean look basketball players don't peak
at twenty one to. Twenty two we're talking five more
years down the road where basketball. Players peak the question
is do Do the rockets have the patience.

Speaker 3 (02:12:24):
For that.

Speaker 2 (02:12:26):
Well they, you, know well if you're going off of recent,
the timeline, the, answers yes they didn't make a deal
with the. Trade deadline. Last year they got to forty
one and forty one, and said you, know what we
got a nice building, blocks here let's run. It back matter,
of fact not only we're gonna run, It back we're
not going to make any major decisions in terms of
grind AND, get fra but they getting framesy. Last Year

(02:12:49):
aaron halliday, Came Back jeff green, Came back lindell, Came
Back steven adams was a trade of the. Year before.
THAT'S it i don't know if they. Got, anybody no.
That's so there's Anything the rockets have shown is that
they are patient with what they have right now, and,
said hey look what. We've done we went from a
laughingstock of sixty losses to a forty one and forty

(02:13:10):
one to fifty two and thirty and, you know could
you could go to that sky's the limit type. Of,
thing yeah we live in this age of.

Speaker 14 (02:13:16):
Now.

Speaker 2 (02:13:17):
NOW now i want. Championships now but championships are hard
and if you if they feel like this core can
get them there eventually within the next couple. Of years
i'm not going to tell them, they're crazy really not amazing.
EXACLY point i Remember When mark jackson was Leading The
Golden state warriors that was pre all, the championships and

(02:13:37):
he was Fouling the rockets because they were going for
a three. Point, RECORD yeah I mean steph was going through.
Growing pains they went Through growing thompson went through. Growing
pains back to early in. Those days it is it
was is highly unusual for a young team to get
the playoffs for the first time AND then i mean
go win a championship or even make The, fun yeah.

(02:13:57):
You're here it comes down. To this it's a seeing
eye Test that Ross and matt's opinion. Mean nothing the
seeing eye test is do we have enough of a
sample size on our two oldest of? The young'ins does that?
Make sense Apper and jalen they're both four. Years in
does four years indicate still growth or do you go

(02:14:22):
four years in we kind of know who they are,
MOST players i think if we took their fourth year
we would know who, they were not indicating whether that
makes an indictment against those two players. Or NOT but
i think four years is a nice good sample size

(02:14:43):
for just about AN any nba player players have. Taken,
YOU yeah I Think zach lavine didn't break out until
his fifth or. SIXTH year i want, to Say Like
norman powell has been playing very well For, the clippers
it took. Him Years isaiah hartenstein would. Be, another yeah
that's a guy that moved around a spot then all
of a sudden in that fifth sixth year OF His

(02:15:04):
nba and again maybe it takes four or five teams
to find the.

Speaker 1 (02:15:07):
Right spot but he was Good In new york and
he's been Great For. Oklahoma city now that's a. Big
man expectations are obviously different than being a number one
on the. Basketball team but there's a there's a good
example of a guy that flounder just trying to MAKE
an nba roster and now he is a valuable piece
Of The oklahoma.

Speaker 2 (02:15:23):
City, Offense yeah i'm just kind of looking up. Quick
Shake gilles alexander didn't really blossom until his, fifth year
but his underlying numbers as far as, shooting percentages were
much Better Than. Tyrise halliburton is that An? Example? Halliburton
see but see this Is The tyres halliburton As The
sacramento king did one and compared to what he's, doing
Now is? Indiana? Pacer Yeah he. Let's see looks like

(02:15:47):
basically in his third year he Was An. All, star okay,
bad example we raced that from the log and in
this third year he shot forty percent. From Three jalen
green hasn't touched that. Anywhere close forty nine percent from.
The Field jalen green hasn't touched that. Anywhere close this
is the problem, is IF like, i said if we
look at only In our, houston bubble we, can, say

(02:16:08):
oh he's, twenty three he's going, To grow but if
we look around around, the league to, his contemporaries especially,
wing players he's lagging well behind four years. Into development
you're if somebody can point, To me i'm open to.
The idea if you can find me a player that
was had the horrible shooting percentages and three point Percentages
That jalen green has had his first, four years maybe
horrible's a little bit of a, strong term but, bad

(02:16:29):
too below average and then really blossom became a plus.
PLUS shooter i would like to. SEE it I Think
lonzo ball comes, to mind but then he's been dealing
with a bunch. Of injuries you'd. Say, healthy yeah Those
Better Ball big bowler brand shoes really tore. Him up
he played thirty five games. This year he shot thirty
four percent from three, all right seven one three two

(02:16:50):
one two five Seven ninety. James callback we'll get, To,
Him Brad, vince mack we'll get to all of you
before the top of. The hour and, we've got believe it,
or not coming up at about. Twenty, MINUTES here i
have a little shot.

Seven hunting now we'll try for the third time to Talk.

Speaker 17 (02:18:08):
To.

Speaker 2 (02:18:08):
James, Hi, james.

Speaker 10 (02:18:10):
Yeah can you hear?

Speaker 2 (02:18:10):
Me? Now, YES okay i was gonna Call That. Reed
Shepherd h do you think he could be Anything Like
austin Reeves? Yea, LAKERS yeah i.

Speaker 1 (02:18:22):
DON'T know, I mean I've seen reid played very little
bit this year For, the rockets as. IF you, i
mean he's just given a few opportunities and just unfortunately
for him to not make the most. Of it AND
so i think next year will be a very.

Speaker 2 (02:18:34):
IMPORTANT season i think he'll be Back In las vegas
to play In The, summer LEAGUE and i think it's
a very interesting training camp for him and a lot
of growing pains, and uh, you know Obviously the rockets.
Loved him they chose him third, last YEAR and i
think they are stir very bullish. On him, All, Right
hey i've got a new name for, your show if.

Speaker 17 (02:18:51):
You want to.

Speaker 2 (02:18:51):
Hear it, oh lordy here. We go what do you
got into the Afternoon with Thomas and ross into The?
AFTER noon i. Don't know, all right that, sounds fine.
THANK you i didn't realize they're looking for a. New
name but that's the each. Z. OWN yeah i. Like,
that yeah let's take your name off THE show i
called The mid Day. SHAKE up, i mean what kind

(02:19:15):
of egomaniac wud named their show? AFTER themselves, i mean,
Come ON actually i did not name. The show you
had NO say, i could because, they said why do
we why do we want to confuse the people by
giving you a goofy ass name to. Your show just it's,
your show you. Name it. You know by, the Way
my saturday show Is The Sports. Rvy show, just kidding,

(02:19:36):
you know if you want to Be The Ross villers Show.
With matt i'm cool, with that like that. A lot
i bet you dude's got a nice ring.

Speaker 3 (02:19:41):
To.

Speaker 2 (02:19:42):
It, all right let's Go to vince on seven eight one. Six, High,
vince hey how you guys doing?

Speaker 5 (02:19:48):
GOOD here i got three three little quick. Both points
so Still Feel jabari smith did not. PLAY Enough i
i'm hoping they can HIM and i frankly wouldn't mind
him Starting over brooks. Next year as far as the
defensive guys, coming, in people you guys are talking about

(02:20:11):
BRINGING In, A Trades mega trades. Or whatever udok is
not gonna want anyone. In here he's gonna have to
teach how to play defense or get get them into.
That CULTURE so i Don't, know durant he's not Gonna.

Speaker 3 (02:20:23):
Be he's not gonna be able to.

Speaker 5 (02:20:24):
Do THAT and i don't even Know if booker is
as much of the, Defender either so that's something to.
Think about and then as Far As jalen green, is
CONCERNED it's i think it's more about the way he
plays and what they let. Him do give me half
the time when he's handling the ball out on, the
perimeter trying to create his. Own shot his dribbles just

(02:20:45):
usually don't take, him anywhere and so he ends up
taking a bad shot off the dribble or driving against
three people and never. Getting calls AND so I don't
i don't have the facility to. Do THIS but i
bet you if you compare his shooting off the drill
from from the perimeter to his catch and shoots when
someone sets them up for an, OPEN shot i bet

(02:21:07):
that he does much better. With THAT so i don't
know if if his role needs to change to where
he's not so much of a ball handler and more of.

Speaker 11 (02:21:15):
A shooter so THAT'S what. I, got okay.

Speaker 2 (02:21:20):
Talk about jaalen, Green, yep, uh yeah. WE can i
can find his catch and. Shoot numbers he just got
to give me. A, minute oh it's it's it's not.
A slidestep it's a it's a dribble to the left
wing right wing to try to. Get separation or if you,
do that he abandons that and goes with a crossover
hopefully get to, the lane the reverse, layoup variety try

(02:21:43):
to go. Against, traffic now one thing in his defense
that has been tough for him is that he can
he gets very few fouls called, against uh not. AGAINST
him i mean he gets way more contact and way
fewer whistles than all other players at. His position. Mm
hmm and that's been hard because he gets beat up quite.
A BIT and i, don't know you know one thing

(02:22:05):
we've not. Talked about ross played all, eighty, two? Right
yes do you think that had a factor in this
series and him going? To, gaming ye his catch and
shoot threes forty point. Nine percent.

Speaker 1 (02:22:19):
But that's In, j green that's in minimal, opportunity, though right?
HOW many I mean i can't think of a lot
of Times that jalen was taking a pass and not
taking a dribble.

Speaker 2 (02:22:27):
And go three? Per, game hmm, All right this is
ACCORDING to Nba dot com. Slash, stats oh they wouldn't lie.
To us that's, regular, season right that's regular. SEASON number i,
THINK so I think i put in. Regular season, so
literally the definition is a catch, and shooting. No, dribble yeah,

(02:22:48):
that's right no dribble off. THE bounce i, Mean yeah i'll,
bringing guns finds them for threes, For evidence fleet finds it.
For threes he gets he gets some catch shoot opportunities here,
and there way MORE than I thought i would be at.

Speaker 3 (02:22:57):
This point, but.

Speaker 2 (02:23:00):
See, to me the One thing i've Appreciate about jailen
this year is the fact that when the three, wasn't
dropping he was able to get to, the rim and
he just couldn't get to the rim in. This series
Whether That's, buddy healed Whether That's, raymond green whether, that's
uh It's. Not curry isn't there a party that just
gets frustrated that he wasn't able to attack the rim

(02:23:21):
like he's done against everybody else so far. This, year yes,
last year on catch and shoot threes he shot thirty.
One percent maybe that's maybe that led to his uptick
of thirty five. Percent overall you, know what you catch
and shoot, forty percent that's pretty good because that's usually.
In rhythm there's no waste. In space, uh huh there's no.

(02:23:42):
Extra dribbling you can do it with a minimal time
off from the. Shot, clock okay give me forty percent
on catch. And shoot i'll take that from anybody around.
The league most catching shoot attempts per game was five
point One For. Dylan brooks he shot forty one percent,
on those Basically What jayalen green did on three, point
three and that means, to me that means the extra
pass is being made largely Coming From fred vanvley or

(02:24:05):
you mentioned out out of the. Center spot, all right
let's go to Mac in paerland that won forty Seven
one Hi Mac.

Speaker 27 (02:24:14):
Otti DANCE so i missed a few minutes because my
wife had to talk. To me but you were talking
about hidden threes, and that and you were Talking About,
jami smith AND so i looked up. His stats he
hit forty five of his threes and fifty eight percent of.
HIS tubes i can't tell you if that's, you know
catch and shoot or what?

Speaker 2 (02:24:35):
The deal, right, right right.

Speaker 27 (02:24:36):
Right right that's pretty significant compared to the rest.

Speaker 1 (02:24:39):
Of everybody but, the playoffs the sample size is smaller against,
the playoffs and he didn't shoot as many.

Speaker 2 (02:24:44):
As counterparts he shot fifty. Catching shoots Did you borroy in?

Speaker 12 (02:24:48):
The?

Speaker 2 (02:24:48):
Playoffs, oh good that's. Really good that's probably why they hit.

Speaker 27 (02:24:53):
Him, More anyways and then before he, was injured, WE
were i think and either rebounds or. Offensive rebounds and,
YOU know i don't want to INDICATE that i don't
want To play Tyre east Owner Or, men thompson but
the rebounding our rebounding stats went Down after jabari got

(02:25:18):
hurt and the other guys were. Playing MORE so i
think he's a valuable piece and.

Speaker 2 (02:25:22):
We need to hang on.

Speaker 5 (02:25:23):
TO him.

Speaker 2 (02:25:26):
I don't think they're openly Thinking Moving, Jabari smith BUT
do I Think jabari smith could be a part of
a trade chip if it's a, big deal, Mega, DEAL
absolutely i can't. Think so you we always argue last
week about whether things sting.

Speaker 4 (02:25:40):
Or, HURT.

Speaker 2 (02:25:42):
Yeah i think. You can you can sting when it's Going,
after duran if you were to, do that if you're Going.
For giannis and again we're just throwing that out there
just because there's been the trade winds or, a blowing
it's got.

Speaker 10 (02:25:51):
To hurt.

Speaker 2 (02:25:53):
Milwaukee wants whatever team if they do and decide to
move from your Honest and yannis decides he wants to
move on. From there they want, draft picks they need salary,
cap relief and then need a starter. Right Away And
jabari smith could be a starter For The milwaukee. Bucks,
tomorrow yeah with more minutes and, MORE opportunities i think he,
could thrive but he'd have to. Expand it his, offensive
game which is basically at this point turn around ten

(02:26:16):
to fifteen footers and catch and? Shoot, threes yeah what
was his? Three points the last time you saw him
make a spin move and dunk? On somebody, and yeah
he's he's. Elbows baselines you. Can tell you can tell
he's gonna do it because he practices.

Speaker 5 (02:26:36):
A lot he.

Speaker 2 (02:26:36):
Makes him you can tell he gets a, little low
he's about to, hit you like he's about to go
up and rise. And shoot you can kind of he
just kind of, telegraphs it but it goes in. All,
right uh, last one let's in, This segment brad on
seven ON, A, hillo brad?

Speaker 15 (02:26:50):
WHAT'S up i wanted to, Ask, you well the next
time they come to the, bargaining table can they do
you think they can bring up that subject? For change somebody's.

Speaker 7 (02:27:01):
Salary is like Like The kevin. Durant rule let's make.

Speaker 11 (02:27:05):
That up that should be if two teams want to make,
a trade it shouldn't have to be because this guy
makes fifty, one men so he's gonna take seven of
your players to make up.

Speaker 3 (02:27:16):
For it that's an.

Speaker 7 (02:27:17):
Unfair trade.

Speaker 2 (02:27:19):
It's called a. Salary cap you have to adhere.

Speaker 11 (02:27:21):
To, it.

Speaker 15 (02:27:23):
Well can't they change it or do something around it
TO serve i mean that's.

Speaker 11 (02:27:29):
Not fair who would want to Trade with phoenix.

Speaker 15 (02:27:32):
On a one year, old man even though, he's good
versus to get like five or six players that are
young and got years ahead.

Speaker 1 (02:27:41):
Of, them Well, BUT brad, I, Mean, brad brad somebody's gonna.
Do It kevin durant's not gonna Be A phoenix sun.

Speaker 2 (02:27:46):
Next year it takes one. To, tango no it doesn't
takes one to do the. Chat, cha well somebody's got
a trade With The. Phoenix suns so it takes two them.
To trade only one has to step up to. The
plate you only need, one person? Dozy dough is?

Speaker 3 (02:28:04):
That?

Speaker 2 (02:28:04):
True round go turn it in a fucking the? To,
