Speaker 1 (00:01):
Is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross ten.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
A clock straight up here on Sports Talk seven ninety
l And welcome in to the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
Without Matt Thomas. He is traveling with your Houston Rockets,
who got a win last night, their first of the
season against the Brooklyn Nets. He will be out today
and Thursday as it is the start of NBA season, folks,

(00:34):
which means Matt will be out on the road, also
missing some days here and there. But the Rockets getting
the win last night, so that is good news. In
his stead, we will have Adam Clanton hanging out in
the one o'clock hour, and I convinced him to hang
out for a little bit longer.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Four hours of the morning is not enough. Chris Gordy
is hanging out for a little bit. I appreciate you,
mister Gordy. Sure thing, let's do it. Yeah, yeah, you see,
he sounds super enthusied, folks. So you want to get
in you can't. Seven one three two one two five
seven ninety is the phone number? Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
All right?

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Can we change this? We have an awful situation unfolding.
I've been actually something. You know, you click on like
one thing and then it ends up in your four
utab for like the next six months. I clicked on
one the video about the hurricane Melissa, which unfortunately is
battering Jamaica with like one hundred and eighty five miles
an hour of wind, the third most intense hurricane in

(01:32):
the Atlantic.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Drop ever dropped under nine hundred millibars.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Right, yeah, whatever that means. I know it's bad, but
I don't know what the thresholds are. I have no
context for how bad it is. But apparently like the
third worst in history.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
It basically becomes one of the five most strongest landfalling
hurricanes in Atlantic.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
Okay, well, uh, prayers out to our good friends in
Jamaica because it does not look like a good situation.
And this, this is just depressing me. I mean that
the I had that hurricane. This looks so how can
it look so menacing when it's just a cloud formation?
I don't know, this does not look good. Okay, I
got to change this off the TV. So I don't

(02:09):
want to be thinking about depressing things that are happening.
But unfortunately, I mean, that is the way of the world.
Whether you want to bury your head in the sand
or not. Let's put on sports and watch the Dodgers World.
We're on a first take. Well, actually, I do want
to talk about that. Of course, I know you didn't
catch much of it. How much did you catch Gordy
before you knotted off?

Speaker 4 (02:27):
I fell asleep in extra inning, so it was like
the tenth or eleventh, and I woke up around twelve forty.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
And could not believe that that game was still going on.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Still going on. It went on to like two a am.
I was okay. Normally I'm like a night out anyways,
I'll be honest with you, folks. I usually fall asleep
between like midnight and one depending, but sometimes I'll stay
up a little bit later if I can't sleep. But
I just I was too invested. I watched that entire
I watched the entire game. It was got over like
two am. I get to the point nobody scoring just end.

(03:01):
I don't even like Oh, don't get me wrong, I
hate the Dodgers and I want him to lose. But
every time the Blue Jays got three outs, I was like,
all right, whatever, just in this this something. And then
finally Fredie Freeman walked it off in the eighteenth inning,
eighteen innings, eighteen innings. I mean, and you enjoyed that.
I'm not gonna say I enjoyed it. I just like

(03:23):
I said, I was like pot committed. I'm like, I
can't miss some crazy walkoff moment and I can't go
to bed.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
I don't know why.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
And then there was a couple of almost walk off
home runs.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
It did make me laugh. To Dodgers fans were like.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
Oh, will Smith dig the last center?

Speaker 3 (03:38):
Oh yeah, every the morning track, Tom Barshaw camping under it.
He's pitched a tint, he's got a fire building, he's
hanging out. It's a can of corn. Shut obamass up,
Dodgers fans.

Speaker 4 (03:49):
But Otani homered in the seventh and we had to
then go eleven innings before it.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
With double homer, double homer, and got intentionally walked four times.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
Well, he walked five times in the game.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
And then he walked again when they finally pitched to him.
It was really an unintentional, intentional walk. They pitched around him.
He he he did not see a strike in that
at bat. I don't believe. I think it was four
straight balls. So yeah, it it was insane, and folks,
we're gonna have to have a serious conversation at some
point this day, Like, I understand we hate the Dodgers,

(04:25):
but Shoho Tani is an absolute force of nature. I mean,
I mean people are arguing, I mean, and I'm listening
to the argument already arguing like the greatest athlete in
the history of American sports except for this dude, Victor
winbin Yama, who's with the San Antonio Spurs.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
And we hate the San Antonio Spur.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
So I actually, at some point on the show, I
do want to have a discussion with folks, like how
much can we like appreciate this greatness that we're seeing,
but but how much do we have to hate them
and not accept how good they are because they play
with the Doge and the Spurs two different sports, two
different forces of nature, and two different basically. I mean,
at least Victor women Yama has got a ways to go.

(05:08):
But as far as talent, one of the all time
greats and Shoe Tani already one of the all time.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
Shoyotani wasted one, two, three, four, five, six years with
the Los Angeles Angels. Yeah, no playoffs in two seasons
and with the Dodgers two postseason runs. He has twenty
six career walks already. Oh my god, a few more
that'll vult him into the top twenty five all time.

(05:34):
Because I had to look it up. Chipper Jones and
Many Ramirez tied for the most postseason walks ever with
seventy two. Well show he's at twenty six in two
postseasons so far.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
Huh, how many is Josel two a half? He's gotta
be a way up there. Let's see walking times. Alex
Bregman is gonna say, you know what that was the
next number name. I was gonna say, Bregman's got to
be close.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
Josel T Joseel Twov's fourteenth with forty three. Okay, Bregman's
got fifty six. Top ten, Yeah, that makes sense.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
The other ones after Chipper Jones and man Rameiroz just
named a Yankee, Bernie Williams, sorry, pasodic Derek Jeter.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Yeah, Derek Jitta the greatest, the greatest of all time
or most overrated of all time. So you had that
an eighteen inning World Series game last night, and you
have I mean, the Monday night football was going on.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
Yep, where Travis Kelcey tied one Longhorn Priest Holmes for
most touchdowns. She's by a chief most touchdowns and chief history.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
Yeah okay, I mean Priest Holmes really only had a
few good years, but he was awesome. Oh dude, he
was like the He didn't he have like a twenty
plus touchdown year or something like that.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Well, that's why he's the He was the all time leader.
That's why he's up there. Uh yeah, so okay, you
got that going on. It was a crazy sports night.
You had Monday Night football, you had World Series, you
had the Rockets playing It's got off the snide, and
you had a game against Uh it was the Caveliers
and Pistons were on Peacock like it was for the
the end of October. Yeah, it was a nice little

(07:06):
sports heaven night last night.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
Years lots of people are saying, like, this is the
best time of year if you're just a sports fan,
because you got hockey, you got college football, you got
NFL me you got stuff going on every day.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
I've been telling Matt for years that he needs to
get an extra TV. I think he watches in his
office or something like that, because he's always like, which, hey,
would you have what were you doing? Were you flipping around?
Like Matt, I have more than one TV? You got
like three?

Speaker 1 (07:28):
Right?

Speaker 4 (07:28):
So yeah, so on Saturday I had three TVs. Yes,
then I had my tablet was grown ass man behavior Gordon. I.
I had my tablet up with the fourth game, and
then I had to put a game on my on
my computer, my main computer, so I had five going.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
Yeah, you can find cheap throway TVs or your old TV's, like,
you don't have to have a bunch of four ko
put an antenna on it.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
Oh, you can put an antenna on it, and or
you can just get a chrome cast, which you can
get usually for just if it's.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
Not that much.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
And also, yeah, I have three TVs in my living
room and then I bring them one from my bedroom.
Things are really getting Harry and I gotta put four TVs.

Speaker 4 (08:02):
On, but I had to do five because the freaking
Aggie's going to overtime in Mississippi state.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
Oh, I know when you're trying to you're trying to
jockey the TVs and one goes into overtime.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
I'm with you. I like that.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
It's a great shot of what's this girl's name Jessica
Mendoza on ESPN. Great shot of the air vents inside
her La Hotel. Yeah, it doesn't look like they're shocking
her up in a nice place. I think she's in
a she it looks like she's in.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
The red roof inn.

Speaker 1 (08:26):
Holiday.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
Yeah, I don't know, she's not. That's not a holiday.
That's too dingy.

Speaker 4 (08:30):
But I'm just like, they can't send him with like
a little roll up backdrop to put behind him.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
They can't.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
They can't dust off that great see the whole background
of the hotel. Yeah, she needs to tell the housekeeper
to dust off that air vent. This does not look safe.
Jessica Mindoza is gonna get Meso Thelioma in in Los Angeles.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
You know we gotta start doing we got we got
cameras in here. Yes, I think we need to start
streaming the show. When Matt's on the road and see
his hotels.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
That okay with him, You're like streaming us. He's got
to bring a camera.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
No, because he does, he's gonna have put on clothes.
He's not gonna be happy about that unless you unless
you want to see back hair. I didn't need the
picture that at all, well, guess what it just happened,
and I'm sorry.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
Well, they stayed some nice hotels.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
Yeah, actually, no, they're in some they're in fire. It's
literally in the collective bargaining agreement with the NBA, they
cannot be anything worse than five star I think like
something like that. So the Rockets, some cities only have
one or two Rockets, will not be in the Toronto
Extended Stay. No, they will not. It's not in the
nineteen seventies. They fought for that. Back in the day.
It was like Wilt Chamberlain and the boys were like, no,

(09:32):
we're not staying in these these chump hotels anymore. So
now they're in nicer hotels in the NBA that's collectively boredn't.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
Until recently w NBA still flying commercial? Are they not still?

Speaker 3 (09:43):
Or did Kaitlin Clark kind of help everybody out? Are
they going to name that league after Caitlin Clark, by
the way, they need to, I mean they that's called
the Caitlyn Clark Basketball Association.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
It's called Caitlyn Clark and everyone else who hates her,
nobody else likes.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
Yeah, there are a lot of girls who are jealous,
but there are a lot of girls who respect what
she's done for them as well in the league, I think.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
All right.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
Anyways, so yes, the Rockets get the victory last night
to the Brooklyn over the Brooklyn Nets, one thirty seven
to one oh nine. A couple of things that I
like from the by doing this right, Tarry Easton, pay
the man, pay the bad ros with every aster, every.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Time they have a big game.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
No, we're not doing pay that. No, people were already doing.
Tarry Easton.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
Gotta go Tarry Easton, Easton, ride the bench. I mean,
you know you know this, Gordy too, because you've been
in this business a long time. We were we have
been in the microwave generation. And you're seeing this right
now with coaches right like like Fire Brian Kelly, Fire
James Franklin. They were just literally in the semi finals
of the playoff. It's the it's the now now now, gimme, gimme,

(10:44):
gimmey instant gratification generation.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
But it's like even worse.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
Two games into the Rocket season, people like you can't
extend Tarry Easton. This is this is horrible. You you
you gotta get this guy off man, Tarry Easton bet
on himself turning down this dockets money. That was a
huge mistake.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
Like, dude, it's two games into the season.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
How do we not how do we not recognize that
as people who have been sport. Even if you're the
youngest sports fan on the planet and you're eighteen years old,
you still have some perspective. You've probably been watching sports
for five six years. You've got to understand one game
does not a season make even a handful of games.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
And then if we get into.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
Baseball oftentimes, like we're talking about, how fifty games isn't
sometimes a significant sample, yet it still happens. It's a
trap that we fall into, how everybody's the worst and
everybody's the best week to week. It's ridiculous. But yes,
Tari Easton with a very good game. He was five
to seven from three. He had twenty two points to
lead the Rockets in scoring off the bench. I was

(11:48):
encouraged about that, and then I was also really encouraged
by the performance from one other Houston Rocket. We'll talk
about that on the other side. We have a lot
of stuff to get to. I do want to talk
to you guys about show. Tani and Victor Wiman Yama.
How much do you hate them because they're with rivals
of your respective teams in here in Houston? How much
do you appreciate what they bring to the table, Rockets,

(12:09):
any observations you want to make there? Of course, the
Texans get the victory over the San Francisco forty nine ers.
Anything y'all want to get to. We also have gut
feelings coming up at eleven thirty. Adam Clinton joining at
one o'clock and you at seven one three two one
two five seven ninety. The phone number is seven one
three two one two five to seven ninety. It is
the Matt Thomas Show with Ross without Matt Thomas. With

(12:30):
you until two o'clock ten eighteen and the am you're
on Sports Talk seven ninety. Hello and welcome back in
to the Matt Thomas Show with Ross without Matt Thomas.
He is out traveling with the Houston Rockets. They're in Toronto. Hey,
I heard he got held up in customs like Dave Roberts,
so hopefully everything's okay over there. I don't know what

(12:50):
he was trying to smuggle in or Okay, maybe I
made that up. Uh did you see that? Dave Roberts
talking about how we got held up, and he's like,
I don't know if there was any intent there.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
Well, somebody said it's uh the government shutdown, and I
guess it's all taken a little extra time.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
So what can you police?

Speaker 2 (13:07):
Have a little patience and Kave Robinson like I got
time for this?

Speaker 3 (13:11):
Well that was always wondering though. But they were in Canada.
They're not shut down in Canada. He means when they landed,
they they were running in to some issues with customs.
I guess you gotta go through. Yeah, because because those
people so they're still shut down, they're working without pay.

Speaker 5 (13:24):
Correct, Is that what's happening right now? I have a
homew as a TSA agent.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
He's oh, he is a ts pissed oh man, that's see,
speaking of things we.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
Don't really need to, all right, no more about the
Jamaican hurricane and no more about the government shutdown. Folks
bury our heads in the sand. That's what we do here.
We talk sports on Sports Talk. Seven ninety seven one
three two two five seven ninety is the phone number
if you want to get in seven one three two
one two five seven ninety. Yes mentioned Tarry Easton leading
the way for the Houston Rockets with twenty two points

(13:59):
also off the bench, a very impressive performance from Reed
Shepherd at twenty four minutes, fifteen points, six of eleven
from the field. He's been knocking down three so far
early in the season, Gordy, But how about eight assists
in only two turnovers. That was nice to see as well.
He's been playing with confidence. You can tell that that

(14:20):
has been certainly something that is being coached into him
and talked about from last year where he definitely just
looked a little pensive, look like he was maybe scared
to make a mistake, not necessarily having full confidence in
his abilities. He's getting to the basket, he's putting up shots.
They haven't been going down consistently yet, but that was
an encouraging performance from.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
Him last night.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
Led the team and assists.

Speaker 4 (14:43):
Yeah, I mean he's looking like getting a little bit
confident and shooting three. So that's that's the big one,
hit three of them. So yeah, I like his game.
So yeah, a steal like you slapping balls.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
Yeah, he ripped the ball away from Cam Thomas first. Well,
he was like a snatch and grab. It was like
he was ripping some old ladies purse and then he
ran the other way and dunked it in. I'm like,
who is this guy? What is Reed Sheppard doing over here?

Speaker 1 (15:10):
This is nice.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
He's an underrated defender.

Speaker 4 (15:11):
I mean I watched him at Kentucky and he defended
pretty well. It is funny though, I mean we seeing
him in person the other night at Toya Center was
at the game, like, he just looked. He looks like
a kid that want a contest to go play an.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
NBA game, Like anyways, short shorts and.

Speaker 4 (15:26):
He's got the little boy haircut. Like, he just looks like.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
I think he grew the mustache for a little while
to try to look older, but I think it wasn't
working and he shaved it off.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
I don't know, we have to ask him about that.

Speaker 4 (15:36):
You get like a fade or just something to look
a little bit cooler. He just looks, you know, right,
it looks like a college kid that want to contest.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
Yeah, he just he looks like he's uh, he's like
a pledge. But don't let him like he get bald.
So people like, oh, like, I'm like, this is what
he does. Don't act like surprise. Yeah, So the three
point shooting so far.

Speaker 3 (15:56):
Of course, we're dealing with very small sample sizes right
now with this season. We're three games in thirty five
percent from excuse me, forty four percent from three so
far early on in the season, but only twenty seven
percent from the field. But how about a men Thompson
and Reed Shepherd combining for sixteen assists and only two turnovers.
So that was good to see as well for a men.

(16:17):
And you did what you need to do against the
Brooklyn Nets. You got to blow out. You were able
to not have to play your starters very much and
men Thompson only played twenty five minutes, Barsmith Junior only
played twenty four and Durant only played twenty five minutes.
And you got some work for some guys who needed it,
like Tarry Easton, like Reed Shepherd, You got Jayshaun Tate
into the game, like Aaron Holliday got some minutes. Overall,

(16:40):
very good performance and exactly what you wanted to see
from the Rockets against a lessonstellar competition. I mean, look,
let's be honest, it was like a preseason game last night,
and everybody got their work in.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
So it's still at the end of the day.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
I was pretty happy to what we saw from reed Sheppard,
especially with the assistant turnover ratio. Combining that with the
men Thompson and Encourage early on one and two. Both
games could have gone either way to start the season,
and then you got the easy victory against the Nets.

Speaker 4 (17:07):
Durant twenty five. I mean, I know most people played.
I mean, Chin Gun played thirty a Kokie played thirty one.
Durant at twenty five. Is that just situation of where
the score was or are they gonna maybe kind of
like you see those minutes in some of these kind
of games be twenty two to twenty three.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
H Yeah, Men, Tomson only played twenty five. I think
if they'd needed him, they would have played more. They're
gonna be very I think they're gonna be very conscious
of it. I'm gonna tell you, I don't think it's
an accident. Yeah, but it's just kind of a I
don't know. I thought initially.

Speaker 4 (17:36):
When they signed him, I thought it was gonna be
a little bit of okay, some rests, some I mean
probably back to backs.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
Yeah, we'll see. So far, he's playing all three games.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
We asked him when we had him at Rockets Media
Day and he said, my plan is to play all
eighty two and play all forty eight minutes. Obviously that's
not gonna happen, but we'll see. That's how he's preparing
for the season. But I'm gonna guess he's not gonna
play back to backs, but I'm not sure. I think
it'll be a situation dependent maybe as well. Yeah, depending
on where they are in the standings and how things

(18:05):
go later on in the season. So yeah, it's gonna
be an interesting situation to be sure, to kind of
see how it plays out. But they haven't had a
back to back yet, and well, god, they don't have one,
I don't think for a couple of weeks. I was
looking at the schedule last night. They they've been actually
having a pretty easy go of You've had too you
play played on Tuesday, a couple of days off, and
they had Saturday Sunday off.

Speaker 2 (18:27):
It's it's the weekend before Christmas.

Speaker 4 (18:29):
They are, ok They're Thursday in New Orleans off, Friday,
Saturday in Denver, Sunday in Sacramento.

Speaker 2 (18:37):
Okay, so that's a three out of four and then.

Speaker 4 (18:39):
They stay out West. They play Tuesday Thursday in La.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
And they might have some NBA Cup games mixed in
somewhere in that stretch. I'm not exactly sure. That's between
December sixth and eighteenth. Yeah, yeah, okay, so we'll see
what happens. But yeah, the NBA has been conscious of
not having as many back to backs, so that's good,
especially when you have an older star like Kevin Durant.
Seven one three five seven ninety is the phone number

(19:04):
seven one three two seven ninety on The Man Thomas
Show with Ross CuPy all on hold early on. I
appreciate you. Also, let's go aad and get after it.
Ruben holding longest is next up?

Speaker 2 (19:13):
What's up?

Speaker 1 (19:14):
Ruben? Hey Man?

Speaker 6 (19:16):
Just wanted to discuss the whole Atani thing and you know,
the greatness as opposed to you know, the the gotta
hate the Dodgers.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
He is wearing the Dodger blue Man. It doesn't feel right, Ruben.

Speaker 6 (19:25):
It doesn't. It doesn't. And uh, when you're looking at
a player like that, I'm not sure.

Speaker 7 (19:30):
If y'all watch.

Speaker 6 (19:30):
Guardians of the Galaxy, I've seen you before, but you
see that par where they're saying, what do you do
with this? With the little group? Little baby group? Say
it's too adorable to kill, you know, take it to
the tailor. Yeah, that's that's Otani for me. He's he's
a great player. He has, he's all the skills, Like
you don't really see this type of player anytime, a
generational player. But he's on the Dodgers, and you're just

(19:51):
kind of irking yourself every time he does something. You're saying, Fanotani.
But then you got to admire the guy.

Speaker 1 (19:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
Absolutely, I mean it's he's a freaking unicorn man and
he's I mean, how are you in the World Series?
Is it eight postseason home runs he has this year?
I think something like that.

Speaker 6 (20:09):
Yeah's ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (20:10):
He goes.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
One hundred and thirteen miles an hour off the bat,
a double, then he hits a home run, double, home run,
and he gets intentionally walked four times and then walks
a fifth.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
I mean, this, this is ridiculous. This is unbelievable.

Speaker 6 (20:24):
What we were telling we were telling the as well
as like you start walking the guy, he's like he's
gonna he's gonna smash it, and then you start walking.
It's like, okay, four times in a row. It's like
this is now we're in the twelve thirteenth, and he's like,
this is embarrassing.

Speaker 7 (20:37):
Just picture the guy over with.

Speaker 3 (20:38):
You know what's crazy too, though, is that they're intentionally
walking him four times. And there are two guys who
likely when it's all said and done, will be Hall
of Famers right behind him, Freddy and Mookie Bets and
Freddy Fraeman. There's freaking Hall of Famers right behind him,
and they did it four times.

Speaker 6 (20:54):
It's more of the lesser of evils perhaps up Oh, Dani,
all the story you hear from the great stories about
him giving all these gloves away to people in your
head and all the all the little charity things he
does or big charity things he does, just like, oh,
I hate this guy that can't.

Speaker 3 (21:11):
Yeah, I mean he was. He was giving his interpreter
like ten million bucks. That's pretty charitable.

Speaker 6 (21:16):
Yeah, that the gambling thing. That's I love how we
can bypass.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
I want to be Otani's friend.

Speaker 6 (21:23):
Yeah, just saying you do that and you're golden.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
Get a couple of parlays in. All right, thank you,
Rubin appreciates you. Uh yeah, I mean from all accounts
every story you read like he's he's super nice.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
He's very welcoming. There's like, what was it?

Speaker 3 (21:35):
Like Lars Newpar who was playing with Team Japan, talked
about how nice he was, how he comes up and
talks to everybody and he's basically like a kid. And
then he goes out there.

Speaker 2 (21:43):
On the mount. How does how do those two things jibe?

Speaker 3 (21:46):
Like you think of people like Justin Verlander, who or
Max Schurz or whatever, like these uber competitive pictures who
go out there and need to be nasty on the mound,
and then he's like the sweetest guy ever. And then
he goes in throw six, shutout, hits three bombs.

Speaker 1 (22:02):
Yeah, that's ridiculous.

Speaker 4 (22:03):
I just think he's gonna he's gonna climb up that
list on just everything, all posts. It's nuts considering you
missed the playoffs for like the first six years of
your career and now you get old taste two year run.
This might be the best two year run of postseason
history in anybody's career. It's just it's insane. It's crazy
at a lot. All right, Matt, we see you on hold.

(22:25):
We'll get to you as we go along.

Speaker 3 (22:26):
You guys want to get on you can seven one three,
two one two five seven ninety seven one three, two
one two five, seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
We got the sports potpourri coming. It's that time of year.

Speaker 3 (22:36):
You have the World Series going on, you have the
Rockets starting their season, you have the Texans in the
thick of things as well. Anything you guys want to
get to seven one three two one two five seven ninety.
Gut feelings coming up at eleven thirty here on the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross, ten thirty three.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
In the Am. Here on Sports Talk seven ninety, Ross
v Aria with you.

Speaker 4 (23:03):
First player on MLB history to reach place nine times
in a postseason game.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
I mean he was the first one to do eighth
right and maybe even the first one dos seven stupid enough.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
Go ahead.

Speaker 4 (23:15):
If I'm Toronto, even if two men are on base,
I'm walking Nah.

Speaker 3 (23:20):
Depending on the situation, you got to pitch. Yeah, absolutely, I.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
Take your BA.

Speaker 3 (23:28):
I'm not saying yeah, I'm happy this guy sucks. We're
gonna strike him out. That's not what I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (23:32):
For eight Mookie bets last night, I'll pitch him to you, sir,
he step into the box.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
Don't you think you're feel a little embarrassed?

Speaker 3 (23:37):
You're like, I'm Mookie freaking bets like I'm multi time
All Star, silver Slugger, all this other stuff like World
Series Champion, I'm Mookie f bets and they walk this
guy four times to get to me, and I don't
make them pay at all.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
It's kind of not fair. The top three of maybe
he needs Mookie needs his Apple Watch show.

Speaker 4 (23:58):
Hey Mookie, Freddy J T.

Speaker 1 (24:01):
Watkins in the video room.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
MOOKI, Oh did you hear me talk? I talked about
that this morning.

Speaker 4 (24:06):
Jay ste the former producer on The Jim Rome Show,
put out a whole tweet on Sunday how George Springer
needed to issue an apology to Dodger.

Speaker 1 (24:15):
Fans they are still so obsessed.

Speaker 2 (24:18):
Oh yeah, he said, you need to.

Speaker 4 (24:20):
You need to issue a former apology to Dodger fans
coming to Dodger Stadium for cheating in the seventeen World Series.
Oh my god, and we may consider a little remorse
for you. But get ready if not, get ready for
some chin music and all this. I'm like, you're gonna
hit him. You're gonna hit him?

Speaker 1 (24:35):
Okay?

Speaker 3 (24:35):
Am I stupid? The whole Carlos Korea. If you don't
know the facts, shut the bleep up thing? Was that
they did not do it during the postseason, So.

Speaker 4 (24:43):
That's that was the narrative, and that's what I thought.
Upon digging. There was an LA Times article written a
few years ago that says Manford did say they did cheap.

Speaker 2 (24:52):
They putting that now.

Speaker 4 (24:54):
They said that the the banging on the trash can
apparently was you couldn't do that because it was so loud.
But there was a whole theorized piece written about that
they think they were whistling, that there were whistles. There
were distinct whistles throughout the posts, and I'm like, good God, like.

Speaker 3 (25:09):
They said that they I mean, okay, obviously we're taking
Carlos Kurry at his word, but he came out pretty
strongly there like yeah, he's like, yeah, we cheated, but
we did not do it during the postseason.

Speaker 2 (25:19):
It was too loud exactly, and go back and watch
those guys.

Speaker 1 (25:22):
Because that's back when Astro's crowds weren't spoiled, but they were.

Speaker 4 (25:24):
But this whole, this whole theorized piece was like, yeah,
I think they resorted to whistling because there's this distinct
whistle when it all speed pictures something. But then you
don't hear and then somebody else retorted like, yeah, it
turns out when the Dodgers were hitting, I heard that
same distinct whistle.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
So what is it?

Speaker 2 (25:39):
Were they cheating for the Dodgers too?

Speaker 3 (25:41):
Like, come on, man, yeah, I don't think they were
doing like we keep on getting this, Oh they cheated
us in twenty seventeen.

Speaker 2 (25:48):
The Astros didn't know.

Speaker 3 (25:49):
You could argue they maybe they wouldn't have gotten to
the postseason, or they wouldn't have gotten that far whatever,
But and they also.

Speaker 1 (25:55):
Won the Game seven? Where was Game seven?

Speaker 2 (25:57):
Playing Christopher Gordy? Yeah, a Dodgers Dodger freaking well, they
think they still had it.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
I mean, there's did you see like that?

Speaker 3 (26:04):
There's like audio of apparently the Dodgers broadcast when the
what was that game? Where the was it Game one
or Game two? Where the Blue Jays were teeing off.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
They're like, I don't know it almost is it's a
fifth they know it's coming and.

Speaker 2 (26:18):
Are or harsh ezer did that? Well, that's what somebody said.
Astros were literally in their building.

Speaker 4 (26:23):
Can we just admit they were tipping The Dodgers were
tipping pitches. There was there was no cheating around it.
You were just there.

Speaker 3 (26:29):
There was like Dodgers said, so, uh uh, George Springer
is wearing some kind of watch.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
It's not an Apple Watch. But he got hit.

Speaker 3 (26:39):
When he got hit on the wrist, there's like a
Dodgers fan zooming in on the video, like, hey, look
at this, George Springer's wearing.

Speaker 1 (26:45):
An Apple Watch.

Speaker 3 (26:45):
Guys, unbelievable. Yeah, he's wearing like a fitbitters. And they
called it an ooze or something like that.

Speaker 2 (26:50):
I think, oh, yeah, this guy's this guy tweeted at
at Jay.

Speaker 4 (26:53):
Stew you left out or I don't remember, you left
out the part that he is still currently cheating.

Speaker 2 (26:58):
Who's that George Springer? How is it currently cheating?

Speaker 1 (27:02):
Look at the.

Speaker 3 (27:03):
Pictures of the Apple Watch on his wrists? Oh yeah, okay,
you found it. Yeah, that's what people are saying, like
he's there's visual evidence, sir. Yeah, they're these Dodgers fans
in their tenfoil hats. I mean, get over yourself.

Speaker 4 (27:14):
So this is what Jason Stewart tweeted some advice to
George Springer as he arrives in LA.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
That's what it is. It's a whoop. Here's what he
wrote out.

Speaker 4 (27:21):
He wrote an apology for him to the Dodgers organization
and Dodger fans. I want a first and foremost apologize
to you for my decision to cheat during the twenty
seventeen World Series. When Major League Baseball determined in twenty
nineteen that my astros used the legal means to cheat
during that championship season. I've verbally took accountability, saying I
regretted everything I did, but I never took the noble
step and apologized to you directly.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
Who wrote this, Bill Plaski.

Speaker 4 (27:45):
The twenty seventeen World Series MVP trophy is a symbol
of shame for.

Speaker 2 (27:49):
Me, oh my gosh, as it is a reminder.

Speaker 4 (27:50):
I was the best cheater on a team that was
caught cheating. I will never be able to make up
for that. I hope that one day you will be
able to forget me. I'm truly sorry, sincerely, George Springer.
That's what Jason Stewart wanted George Springer to tell Dodger fans,
and this guy David responds. I would still despise him,
but that would certainly raise an eyebrow and he would

(28:12):
earn back a.

Speaker 2 (28:13):
Shred of respect.

Speaker 3 (28:14):
My god, you earned back a shred of respect. Nobody cares.
Nobody cares what you have to say.

Speaker 4 (28:19):
But the only way past fans is the vacate twenty seventeen.

Speaker 2 (28:23):
How many years were we gonna do this? It's twenty
twenty five, folks, y'all.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
Won last year.

Speaker 3 (28:30):
Next comment, Now, twenty twenty was certainly a Mickey Mouse title.

Speaker 2 (28:33):
Next comment, did you write one of these for Rookie?

Speaker 8 (28:35):
Or yeah?

Speaker 1 (28:35):
I like here? Hello, Hello, You all cheer when.

Speaker 2 (28:39):
Mookie Betts goes up there and Van drelichen Is in
his book talked about the Dodgers being involved in skin
cheating as well in using illegal means to steal signs.

Speaker 4 (28:50):
I am head of Rob Manford pr the Astros were
the only one to do anything or the stapegoat. Don't
believe anything else on any other organization doing anything.

Speaker 3 (29:00):
In seventeen and eighteen. According to Evan Drelich's book Winning
Fixes Everything, teams talking about the Dodgers cheating. We know
that the Red Sox did for a fact, The Yankees
did for a fact. Not I only gonna talk about
this is making me upset.

Speaker 4 (29:15):
When I was in Dodger it was in Faenway Park earlier.
This year and this Red Sox fan getting into your cheaters. Yes,
some second manager started that, what are you talking about?

Speaker 1 (29:24):
Oh well yeah, I mean.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
The cognitive dissonance is astounding. You have very very easy
examples to point out Red Sox Apple Watch, Red Sox
twenty eighteen, the mastermind of the seventeen scandal and the
manager of the eighteen Red Sox Alex Cora fired and
Beck in the fold, and somehow still the Astros are

(29:48):
the poster boy of this.

Speaker 3 (29:50):
How are the Red Sox not the poster boy with
everything that I just laid out because they hit they
bagged on some trash cans instead of using Apple Watch.

Speaker 4 (29:57):
Well the city a Red Sox fan is yelling, Jesu
Sanchez just got to the team, and he's like, Chetera,
what about about.

Speaker 2 (30:03):
Twenty seventeen Houston Astro Taskar Hernandez. Right now, he played
one game. I think he got hurt on the team.

Speaker 1 (30:09):
He was on the team. He's got a ring. You
didn't ask him.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
To take it back because because everybody's like when you
when you tell people that they didn't do it, they're like, well, yeah,
he should have stopped everyone. He should have stepped up,
he should have said something in the clubhouse.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
And she should.

Speaker 2 (30:21):
He should have told everyone. No, shame on you. We'll
taskar Hernandez didn't do that. We're gonna shame him too. Gordy,
I hate you. You gotta be fired up about all this.
Matt You've been holding patiently, so we're gonna get you
real quick. What's up, Matty?

Speaker 7 (30:38):
Hey go ahead, Hey, uh, I gotta, I gotta, I
got another on a Terry.

Speaker 2 (30:46):
Okay, what happened?

Speaker 1 (30:48):
You know a guy?

Speaker 7 (30:50):
Well, now my next door.

Speaker 2 (30:52):
Neighbor, Oh, here we go, yeah.

Speaker 7 (30:55):
Is I is the baby mama of his son?

Speaker 3 (30:59):
Hold okay, hold on, let me write this now, your
next door neighbors is the baby mama of Terry Rosier exactly, okay, and.

Speaker 7 (31:10):
The son is a junior high student. And that's who
I feel sorry for now. When he was popped earlier
this summer, she told me everything was clear.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
He's in junior high. How old is his son?

Speaker 7 (31:27):
Eighth grade?

Speaker 1 (31:29):
What's he?

Speaker 2 (31:29):
Thirteen? Fourteen? Terry O's years thirty one?

Speaker 1 (31:33):
I know it.

Speaker 7 (31:33):
They were high school sweethearts.

Speaker 2 (31:35):
Oh okay in Ohio.

Speaker 7 (31:37):
And yeah, yeah up in Cleveland.

Speaker 2 (31:42):
Yeah all right, man, Uh go ahead, and uh.

Speaker 7 (31:47):
Every the kid used to play in the in my
Call to sact every night. Never see him anymore. She
owes I take care of her yard never never, and.

Speaker 1 (31:59):
She owes me money.

Speaker 7 (32:00):
I can't get a hold of her. So there's I
don't know if she was involved in it or what,
but there's it's it's really disturbing. I'm looking for for
sale sign going all right, man, hey, as far as
the Dodgers, go ahead, Yeah, look at Cody Bellinger's batting average.

Speaker 2 (32:26):
Yeah that's true. You know, thank you bat cheat?

Speaker 7 (32:31):
Were they not cheating?

Speaker 3 (32:32):
Well, if you look at one guy's batting average, probably
that isn't going to tell you the whole story, because
I mean we can flip that on its head. Of course,
we know that jose Al two vays or whose batting
average went way up in twenty seventeen and went back now,
was like Marlon Gonzales or somebody like that.

Speaker 9 (32:46):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (32:47):
Uh, But Cody Bellinger, I mean he still had a
lengthy career since. Uh he had a nice bounce back
here with the Yankees actually, and he was good with
the Cubs last year, so I mean the year before anyways,
All right on that, No, we're gonna take quick break here.
Chris Gordy is sitting in for Matt Thomas. I am, uh, well,
I'm here.

Speaker 1 (33:07):
Is from Ohio. By the way, he is from Ohio.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
Well, yeah, I brought that out. He's from Youngstown, Ohio.
That guy said Cleveland. Also apparently he that's his baby mama,
that apparently he had when he was like seventeen eighteen,
and he said the kid. The kid was playing basketball
in the cul de Sac and it was sad. Thank
you for all those things, Matt. We're gonna take a
quick break here on The Matt Thomas Show with Ross.

(33:31):
If you can think you could top that, go ahead
seven one three two one two five seven eighty the
phone number seven one three two one two five seven
eighty Matt Toma Show with Ross.

Speaker 2 (33:38):
Back in a second.

Speaker 3 (33:53):
He's forty eight the am here on Sports Talk seven
eighty hour Renumber one flying by thanks to Chris Gordy
hanging out a couple of all. I promise we will
get to you very soon. Got gut feelings coming up
at eleven thirty on The Matt Thomas Show with Ross
or Ross Viria with you, Jonathan Allen. I don't think
I've even mentioned that's very rude. I'm sorry. We appreciate you, Jonathan,

(34:15):
thank you doing a great job. As always, phone lines
open it's seven one three two one two five seven
ninety if you want to talk to Jonathan and give
him some suggestions. He's really wrestling over what he should
be for Halloween. So go ahead, you and the lady
going out. No, you know what you're gonna be if
we went out, Actually I don't know. I know she

(34:35):
wants to be Wednesday from the like this, okay, and
then you could be what's the dad's name? Yeah, it
don't be the dad. I guess it's weird Gomez Gomez.

Speaker 4 (34:45):
Yeah, yeah, you know what the most one of the
easy popular costumes I've seen the show. What's that people buying?
It's like a I forget, it's like a hard hat
or reflector vest or whatever. It's basically the jewel thiefs
from them.

Speaker 2 (35:00):
That's not bad.

Speaker 3 (35:01):
And we get a hammer, although I don't know if
they're gonna let you into the club with the hammer.
That could be dangerous. And be careful out there, folks, Halloween,
and be careful out there, uber drivers. It's gonna get
pretty pricey and you're gonna have some crazy folks. Like
if you're like an uber driver on Halloween, do you
even do? I mean, that's time to make big fares.
But also people are like getting in there with like
face paint and god knows what else that's true. Yeah,

(35:23):
and then you got fake blood. You got fake blood
all over your back seat. That's not good for anybody.
All right, Seven one three two point two five seven
ninety is the phone number you know. Since Gord to
your hanging out, I do want to talk a little
college football. So we were talking about this, uh, like
the the microwave generation, the instant gratification generation, how it's
getting even worse and worse and worse.

Speaker 2 (35:43):
And now I mean, are we just careening downhill?

Speaker 3 (35:46):
And this is how it's gonna be the new normal
in college football because you have all of these programs.
And I always bring this up with Matt because he's
always like, well, if Texas doesn't win a championship in
three years, it's a massive failure. Well yeah, you you
can point to like ten other programs that are saying that. Alabama, Florida,
Florida State, LSU. There are like ten to fifteen programs
who say, if we're not winning championships, we're failing. Well,

(36:09):
only one team can win the championship every year. I mean,
that's just how it goes. So you're gonna have all
these programs who are disappointed and you have a team
like Penn State that made the semi final and then
now literally six games later, they're they're firing their coach.

Speaker 4 (36:26):
But let's back it up a little because James Frankel
was given how many years there at at Penn State.
But do you think a lot of really good seasons, Yes,
a lot of ten to eleven win seasons, but go
look up his record against like top ten teams.

Speaker 3 (36:41):
It was something like four and twenty something like. He
could never win the big game. It wasn't great for sure.
And he had he had flet's see one, two, three,
five top ten finishes, okay at Penn State.

Speaker 2 (36:56):
But eventually you got to get over the hump.

Speaker 4 (36:58):
And one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven,
twelve seasons, they were never getting over the horse.

Speaker 3 (37:05):
So if you to put somebody else, I mean, it's
Penn State. Though, Okay, Penn State isn't in Texas or
Louisiana adjacent to Texas as well, which Louisiana itself, of
course is a fertile recruiting ground. But I mean California,
Florida doing that in at Penn State, I think he
was doing a pretty good job overall. It couldn't have
been better, especially in bigger games. Absolutely, But how many
times when he did lose those big games against Ohio

(37:28):
State and Michigan.

Speaker 1 (37:29):
Did he have did did?

Speaker 2 (37:30):
Did people think that he had the best football team?

Speaker 1 (37:32):
Did they?

Speaker 3 (37:33):
People think that he was making huge mistakes and he
was just a horrible coach, or they got beat by
better football teams. Well, I mean more talented football teams.
I should say as well. How many times in those
matchups against Ohio State and Michigan in Oregon, did James
Franklin have the most talented team?

Speaker 7 (37:48):
Wow?

Speaker 4 (37:48):
I mean it's very few. You have talent though, you
had a Saquon Barkley, should have Dual Carter.

Speaker 2 (37:55):
Yeah, you'd some dudes.

Speaker 4 (37:56):
And it ain't like you were little old you know,
SMU trying to get by like you've had elite talent.
I think that's a pretty fair standard though for a
Penn State because here's everybody's got different standards.

Speaker 1 (38:09):
Alabama.

Speaker 2 (38:10):
The expectation is very real.

Speaker 4 (38:11):
You're supposed to make the playoff every year and you're
supposed to win a championship once every couple of years.
That's the that's the standards say have been created there.
I think in the second tier, you've got schools in
Ohio State. I probably may even push up there once
every two to three years. The expectations of Ohio State,
we should be playing for it.

Speaker 1 (38:27):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (38:28):
Who else is up there then Georgia probably Georgia's probably
three teams said you need to be winning every three years.

Speaker 2 (38:33):
So I mean that's the only teams that can win
champions I think the next.

Speaker 4 (38:35):
Tier is teams that once every four to five years,
we think we should be maybe have a championship caliber team. Okay,
And that's where I put LSU, That's where I put Texas.
That's where I put The boosters at Texas will disagree
with you. They think they're in Tier one. I know
they haven't proven that in the last twenty years.

Speaker 2 (38:53):
But I mean two semi final runs.

Speaker 3 (38:56):
You're talking about expectations, But what are these boosters who
are pouring millions into the program they think they should
be in that Alabama tier, and I'm talking about guys
at Florida.

Speaker 2 (39:04):
Buscher's at Florida, but people, I mean, yeah, but no,
Florida's in that.

Speaker 4 (39:09):
I'd put Florida in that tier with the LSUS of
like once every four to five years. They're not going
to run you off after one bad year or two
bad years. Like because again, people understand, like if you
just had a team that won on a championship run
and then you lose your gut it, you lose all
those people and you go seven and five next year,
most people, I totally get it, we got gutted, but
let's rebuild. We're rebuilding for that next year. But for

(39:32):
people like Brian Kelly, you had four years to prove it.
By year four, this was his most talented team. This
was supposed to be the team that could make a
championship run. Now again with the twelve team playoff, nobody
was saying win a championship. They were saying, make a
deep playoff run.

Speaker 3 (39:47):
That's what the expectation and what it what it was
bretton Brian Kelly's best season, I mean, well, the first
couple of years when he was pretty good, they didn't
have they didn't have a twelve team players.

Speaker 4 (39:55):
The first year they beat Alabama, they won the SEC West. Yeah,
and and then the next year he has Jane Daniels
wins the Heisman. But you have historically the worst defense
you've ever had in the.

Speaker 2 (40:05):
History of lashue h apparently, Matt Thomas is what do
you want?

Speaker 9 (40:10):
Man?

Speaker 2 (40:10):
Are you are you? Are you awake?

Speaker 9 (40:14):
I watched every bit of that game last night, if
you believe me or not, not that it's accurate.

Speaker 10 (40:20):
Yeah, I'm just driving to the airport and during this
show a great conversation.

Speaker 9 (40:25):
What do you repartee?

Speaker 1 (40:27):
Where are you?

Speaker 2 (40:27):
Oh, you're in Houston, Texas. I don't know where you were.

Speaker 9 (40:30):
Yeah, I'm going to I don't know what.

Speaker 2 (40:32):
Okay, I thought the plane left after the game or something.

Speaker 9 (40:36):
No, I mean that would be terrible. Extra time in
canad would be nice. You know, Tim Morton's in a
good exchange rate. But that's not the reason why.

Speaker 2 (40:43):
How's your passport looking.

Speaker 9 (40:46):
Updated? By the way, Okay, that's twenty five Thanks for action.

Speaker 2 (40:50):
Okay, great, all right, what do you want?

Speaker 10 (40:53):
Well, I'm gonna say my point about not winning a
championship is seeing the failure.

Speaker 9 (40:58):
Look at all these coaches that are listening jobs. It's
proven my point.

Speaker 1 (41:02):
All this money, it's proving your nil.

Speaker 10 (41:05):
All this absolutely prove my point. Nobody has nobody has
time to ill programs. You spend all this money, you win.
I think if uh Texas Tech doesn't win a national championship,
they're gonna fire everybody there.

Speaker 9 (41:16):
Oh hell yeah, he's going to, don't you think?

Speaker 3 (41:19):
But don't you think that's a ridiculous standard to hold
every single you're holding fifteen to twenty and if you
throw Texas Tech in there and some other nil programs,
you're getting up to like twenty programs. We need to
be winning the championship. And like Gordy said, there's three
teams he named that should be winning the championship, Well,
then that's all the championships.

Speaker 2 (41:35):
Like, it's just unrealistic to me that everybody thinks they
should be winning all the time.

Speaker 4 (41:39):
There's a group of twenty teams though that I say,
they should have been have a chance to compete. And
and four to five years is a good enough sample size.
Nobody's firing coaches after one year. It's James traklo Is there,
twelve years, they're they're getting a rope but you gotta
at least show your you have a chance to get there,

(42:00):
and Brian Kelly was showing he.

Speaker 2 (42:02):
Was never going to get there.

Speaker 3 (42:04):
You think if Brian Kelly stayed there ten more years,
they would have never won a championship.

Speaker 4 (42:08):
Well, you don't get ten years. I was talking, you
get five, and this was supposed to be his year.
It takes the next step. So I think it's fair.
I think it's fair to give these coaches. Look at
Billion Napier, he massively underachieved at Florida.

Speaker 1 (42:21):
He got four.

Speaker 4 (42:22):
I'm sorry, that's that's enough timetable to tell. Is this
guy's going to be a championship coach. I think the
expectations programmed to program. If you add it all up,
it's just ridiculous. The expectations go ahead.

Speaker 9 (42:35):
I agree. I agree with you guys. I agree with
you all.

Speaker 10 (42:38):
It's totally unrealistic. But I promise you Joey McGuire does
not get the Red Raiders to the tournament in the
next three years, he's out of work.

Speaker 9 (42:47):
But staring in the story, Clay Campbell, I ain't paid
all that cash for nothing.

Speaker 2 (42:50):
But that's another thing.

Speaker 3 (42:51):
That's another interesting discussion is for me is like, who
was Joey McGuire a hot candidate anywhere? No, all of
a sudden, Joey McGuire is this smart top ten coach
because he got players.

Speaker 4 (43:03):
So I think that's fair though they they went out
and bought a top ten roster. If you can't win
with that, then nets on coaching.

Speaker 3 (43:11):
No, I understand that, But nobody thought that Joey maguire
was some kind of genius coach before this year, and
all of a sudden they're in the top ten. It's
because it comes down.

Speaker 1 (43:21):
To the players.

Speaker 2 (43:22):
He was thought of it as a pretty good coach.

Speaker 3 (43:23):
I think there's a certain baseline you hit where it
kind of it comes down to the player. Especially in
the nil age, it comes down more to the players
that you're able to acquire than the coaching nanny would be.

Speaker 2 (43:35):
Probably, how did you say?

Speaker 4 (43:36):
They look like absolute dog crap under Deshaun what's his face?
And the minute they fire him? They beat Penn State?

Speaker 3 (43:42):
What happened last week? They lost like fifty six to three.
But what I'm saying is was that the talent or
was that coaching? Because clearly you say I had the
talent to beat Penn State? To beat whoever they beat
the next week, like.

Speaker 2 (43:55):
Uh, let me go, I'm trying to find that. Didn't
they just get stomped? Yeah, they lost fifty six to six.
The three games part of that, they won three games and.

Speaker 1 (44:04):
They just lost fifty six to six because that's team.

Speaker 2 (44:07):
Oh yeah, well no, you said the coaching matters, So
all of a sudden, the genius coach lost fifty six
to six.

Speaker 4 (44:12):
You're saying it's only on the players. I'm saying I
would say that. I didn't say it's only on the players.

Speaker 1 (44:17):
If Kurt.

Speaker 2 (44:18):
Anything else fore, winning twelve, we got to hit the
top of the hour.

Speaker 11 (44:21):
Matt.

Speaker 9 (44:23):
I'm proud of you guys. I'll talk to you tomorrow
for Toronto.

Speaker 2 (44:26):
Okay, thank you very much. Matt Thomas from Toronto.

Speaker 3 (44:29):
He's gonna only hear O Canada fifty times because he
thinks it's better than the star Spangled banner. What was
the what was the final tally on that on that
instaple one day? I think yeah, eight to one. Maybe
we took like ten people before he got one. All right, Cordy,
appreciate you hanging out to me some sip. Can we
go take a nap?

Speaker 2 (44:45):
Please?

Speaker 11 (44:46):
No?

Speaker 1 (44:46):
I don't.

Speaker 3 (44:46):
I'm worried about you. The man's doing morning shows. He's
the PD in like six markets and he does locked down.

Speaker 1 (44:53):
SEC. Appreciate you making time for me. Chris Gordy uh
in this first hour? All right?

Speaker 7 (44:57):
Those are you on? All?

Speaker 2 (44:58):
I promise because I'm flying so well, please don't go anywhere.
I want to talk to you guys.

Speaker 3 (45:02):
So I'm flying solo for the next couple of hours.
We got gut feelings coming up at eleven thirty. We
have Adam Clanton joining at one o'clock and it is
basically the Sport's our V show. Is this a bad
idea from our higher ups? I think so for the
next two hours, you guys want to get in seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two, one two five seven ninety The Matt Thomas
Show with Ross continues with hour number two in just

(45:24):
a second sen a clock straight up here on Sports
Talk seven ninety lo and welcome in the to the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross. Without Matt Thomas, he is
traveling with your Houston Rockets, who have got to win
last night, their first of the season against the Brooklyn Nets.
He will be out today and Thursday, as it is

(45:47):
the start of NBA season, folks, which means Matt will
be out on the road also missing some days here
and there.

Speaker 2 (45:54):
But the Rockets getting the win last night, so that
is good news.

Speaker 3 (45:57):
In his stead, we will have Adam Clanton hanging out
in the one o'clock hour, and I convinced him to
hang out for a little bit longer. Four hours in
the morning is not enough. Chris Gordy is hanging out
for a little bit. I appreciate you, mister Gordy. Sure thing,
Let's do it. Yeah, yeah, you see, he sounds super enthuised, folks.
So you want to get in you can't.

Speaker 2 (46:16):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety is
the phone number. Seven one three two one two five
seven ninety. All right, can we change this? We have
an awful situation unfolding. I've been actually something.

Speaker 3 (46:28):
You know, you click on like one thing and then
it ends up in your four utab for like the
next six months. I clicked on one video about the
hurricane Melissa, which unfortunately is battering Jamaica with like one
hundred and eighty five miles an hour of wind, the
third most intense hurricane in the Atlantic drop ever dropped

(46:48):
under nine hundred millibars, right, yeah, whatever that means. I
know it's bad, but I don't know what the thresholds are.
I have no context for how bad it is, but
apparently like the third worst in history.

Speaker 4 (46:58):
It basically becomes one of the five most strongest landfalling
hurricanes in Atlantic.

Speaker 3 (47:03):
Okay, well, prayers out to our good friends in Jamaica
because it does not look like a good situation.

Speaker 2 (47:11):
And this, this is just depressing me.

Speaker 3 (47:13):
I mean that the eye of that hurricane, this looks
so how can it look so menacing when it's just
a cloud formation?

Speaker 2 (47:19):
I don't know, this does not look good. Okay, I
got to.

Speaker 3 (47:22):
Change this off the TV. So I don't want to
be thinking about depressing things that are happening. But unfortunately,
I mean, that is the way of the world, whether
you want to bury your head in the sand or not.
Let's put on sports and watch the Dodgers wind World.
Seri's on the first take. Well, actually, I do want
to talk about that. Of course, I know you didn't
catch much of it. How much did you catch Gordy
before you knotted off?

Speaker 4 (47:42):
I fell asleep in extra inning, so it was like
the tenth or eleventh, and I woke up around twelve forty.

Speaker 2 (47:49):
And could not believe that the game was still going.

Speaker 3 (47:51):
On, still going on. It went on to like two
a am. I was, okay, normally I'm like a night
out anyways. I'll be honest with you, folks. I usually
fall asleep between like midnight and one depending, but sometimes
I'll stay up a little bit later if I can't sleep.

Speaker 2 (48:05):
But I just I was too invested. I watched that
entire I watched the entire game.

Speaker 8 (48:10):
It was.

Speaker 2 (48:10):
It got over like two am. I get to the
point nobody's scoring, just end.

Speaker 1 (48:16):
I don't even like.

Speaker 2 (48:17):
Oh, don't get me wrong. I hate the Dodgers and
I want him to lose.

Speaker 3 (48:21):
But every time the Blue Jays got three outs, I
was like, all right, whatever, just in this something. And
then finally Fredriie Freeman walked it off in the eighteenth inning,
eighteen innings, eighteen innings. I mean, and you enjoyed that.
I'm not gonna say I enjoyed it. I just like
I said, I was like pot committed. I'm like, I
can't miss some crazy walkoff moment and I can't go

(48:43):
to bed. I don't know, why, And then there was
a couple of almost walk off home runs.

Speaker 1 (48:48):
It did make me laugh.

Speaker 2 (48:49):
The Dodgers fans were like.

Speaker 1 (48:50):
Oh, will Smith dig the last center?

Speaker 3 (48:53):
Oh yeah, every the morning track, Tom barshow camping under it.
He's pitched a tint, he's got a fire building, he's
hanging out. It's a can of corn. Shut obamass up,
Dodgers fans.

Speaker 4 (49:04):
But Otani homered in the seventh and we had to
then go eleven innings before.

Speaker 3 (49:08):
It is with double homer, double homer, and got intentionally
walked four times. Well, he walked five times in the game,
and then he walked again when they finally pitched to him.
It was really an unintentional, intentional walk. They they pitched
around him. He he, He did not see a strike
in that at bat. I don't believe. I think it

(49:28):
was four straight balls. So yeah, it it was insane.
And folks, we're gonna have to have a serious conversation
at some point this day. Like, I understand we hate
the Dodgers, but Shojo Tani is an absolute force of
Nature's I mean, I mean, people are arguing, I mean,
and I'm listening to the argument already arguing, like the

(49:49):
greatest athlete in the history of American sports except for
this dude, Victor Winbin Yama who's with the San Antonio Spurs.

Speaker 1 (49:58):
And we hate the San Antonios Spur four so I
actually records thunder.

Speaker 3 (50:03):
At some point in the show, I do want to
have a discussion with folks, like how much can we
like appreciate this greatness that we're seeing, But but how
much do we have to hate them and not accept
how good they are because they play with the Dodgers
and the Spurs two different sports, two different forces of nature,
and two different basically. I mean, at least Victor women
Yama has got a ways to go. But as far

(50:24):
as talent, one of the all time greats in Showyotani
already one of the all.

Speaker 4 (50:27):
Time Shoyotani wasted one, two, three, four, five, six years
with the Los Angeles Angels. Yeah, no playoffs in two seasons,
and with the Dodgers two postseason runs. He has twenty
six career walks already. Oh my god, a few more
that'll vult him into the top twenty five all time.

(50:48):
Because I had to look it up. Chipper Jones and
Many Ramirez tied for the most postseason walks ever with
seventy two. Well show, he's at twenty six in two
postseasons so far.

Speaker 2 (50:58):
Huh how many his host two they have? He's gotta
be away up there. Let's see times. Alexman.

Speaker 3 (51:04):
I was gonna say, you know what that was the
next number name. I was gonna say, Bregman's got to
be close.

Speaker 4 (51:09):
Josel half Jozel Twov's fourteenth with forty three. Okay, Bregman's
got fifty six, top ten, Yeah, that makes sense.

Speaker 2 (51:17):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (51:18):
The other ones after Chipper Jones and Mane Rameiroz just
named a Yankee Bernie Williams, sorry, Pasodic Derek.

Speaker 3 (51:22):
Jeter, Yeah, Denk Jitta the greatest, the greatest of all
time or most overrated of all time. So you had
that an eighteen inning World Series game last night, and
you have I mean the Monday night football was going on.

Speaker 4 (51:38):
YEP, where Travis Kelcey tied one Longhorn Priest Holmes for
most touchdowns. She's by a chief most touchdowns and chief history.

Speaker 3 (51:49):
Yeah, okay, I mean Priest Holmes really only had a
few good years, but he was awesome. Oh dude, he
was like the he didn't he have like a twenty
plus touchdown year or something like that. Well, that's why
he's the He was the Aull time leader. That's why
he's up there. Uh yeah, so okay, you got that
going on. It was a crazy sports night. You had
Monday Night football, you had World Series, you had the

(52:10):
Rockets playing It's got off the Snide, and you had
a game.

Speaker 2 (52:13):
Against uh it was the Caveliers and Pistons were on
Peacock like it was for the the end of October. Yeah,
it was a nice little sports heaven night last night.

Speaker 4 (52:23):
Year. Lots of people are saying, like, this is the
best time of year if you're just a sports fan,
because you got hockey, you got college football, you got
NFL me, you got stuff going on every day.

Speaker 3 (52:31):
I've been telling Matt for years that he needs to
get an extra TV. I think he watches in his
office or something like that, because he's always like, which,
hey would you have what were you doing? Were you
flipping around like, Matt, I have more than one TV?
You got like three?

Speaker 7 (52:43):
Right?

Speaker 2 (52:43):
So yeah, So on Saturday I had three TVs. Yes,
then on my tablets grown ass man behavior Gordyon, I had.

Speaker 4 (52:50):
My tablet up with the fourth game and then I
had to put a game on my on my computer,
my main computer, so I had five going.

Speaker 3 (52:57):
Yeah, you can find cheap throway TVs or your old
t like, you don't have to have a bunch of
four k O put an on it.

Speaker 1 (53:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (53:03):
Oh, you can put an antenna on it, and or
you can just get a chrome cast, which you can
get usually for just if it's not that much. And also, yeah,
I have three TVs in my living room and then
I bring the one from my bedroom if things are
really getting hairy, and I gotta put four TVs.

Speaker 4 (53:17):
On, but I had to do five because the freaking
Aggie's going to overtime in Mississippi state.

Speaker 3 (53:22):
Oh, I know when you're trying to you're trying to
jockey the TVs and one goes into overtime.

Speaker 2 (53:25):
I'm with you.

Speaker 1 (53:27):
I like that.

Speaker 4 (53:27):
It's a great shot of what's this girl's name, Jessica
Mendoza on ESPN. Great shot of the air vents inside
her La Hotel. Yeah, doesn't look like they're shocking her
up in a nice place.

Speaker 3 (53:37):
I think she's in a she it looks like she's
in the red roof in Holiday m Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 7 (53:42):
She's not.

Speaker 2 (53:42):
That's not a holiday. That's too dingy. But I'm just like,
they can't send them with like a little roll up
backdrop to put behind them.

Speaker 7 (53:48):
They can't.

Speaker 3 (53:49):
They can't dust off that great see the whole background
of the hotel. Yeah, she needs to tell the housekeeper
to dust off that air VT. This does not look safe.
Jessica Mendoz is gonna get mess with Thelioma in Los Angeles.

Speaker 4 (54:01):
We start doing we got we got cameras in here. Yes,
I think we need to start streaming the show in
Matt's on the road and see his hotels. That okay
with him, You're like streaming man, he's got to bring
a camera, No, because he well he's gonna have to
put on clothes. He's not gonna be happy about that
unless you want to, unless you want to see back here.
I didn't need the picture that at all. Well guess

(54:22):
what it just happened and I'm sorry, Well, they stayed
some nice hotels. Yeah, actually no, they're in some they're
in fire.

Speaker 3 (54:29):
It's literally in the collective bargaining agreement with the NBA,
they cannot be anything worse than five star.

Speaker 2 (54:35):
I think like something like that.

Speaker 4 (54:36):
So the Rockets in some cities only have one or
two Rockets. Will not be in the Toronto Extended Stay.

Speaker 1 (54:41):
No, they will not.

Speaker 3 (54:42):
It's not in the nineteen seventies. They fought for that.
Back in the day. It was like Wilt Chamberlain and
the boys were like, no, we're not staying in these
these chump hotels anymore. So now they're in nicer hotels
in the NBA that's collectively bored.

Speaker 2 (54:53):
Wasn't until recently w NBA still flying commercial? Are they
not still? Or did Caitlin Clark kind of help everybody out?
I don't think he helped me out.

Speaker 3 (55:01):
Are they going to name that league after Caitlin Clark,
by the way, they need to, I mean they that's
call it the Caitlyn Clark Basketball Association.

Speaker 4 (55:08):
It's called Caitlyn Clark and everyone else who hates her,
nobody else likes.

Speaker 3 (55:13):
Yeah, there are a lot of girls who are jealous,
but there are a lot of girls who respect what
she's done for them as well in the league, I think.

Speaker 1 (55:18):
All right.

Speaker 3 (55:19):
Anyways, so yes, the Rockets get the victory last night
to the Brooklyn over the Brooklyn Nets, one thirty seven
to one oh nine.

Speaker 2 (55:26):
A couple of things that I like.

Speaker 1 (55:27):
From the game.

Speaker 2 (55:28):
By doing this, right, Tar Easton.

Speaker 4 (55:30):
Pay the man, pay the bad ros with every astro
every time they have a big game.

Speaker 2 (55:36):
No, we're not doing pay that.

Speaker 3 (55:37):
No, people were already doing Tarry Easton. Gotta go Tary Easton,
east to ride the bench. I mean you know this,
Gordy too, because you've been in this business a long time.
We were we have been in the microwave generation. And
you're seeing this right now with coaches right like like
Fire Brian Kelly, Fire James Franklin. They were just literally
in the semi finals of the playoff. It's the it's

(55:57):
the now, now, now, gimmey, gimmey, gimmey, instant gratification generation.

Speaker 2 (56:02):
But it's like even worse.

Speaker 3 (56:04):
Two games into the Rocket season, people like you can't
extend Tarry Easton. This is horrible. You gotta get this
guy off man. Tarry Easton bet on himself turning down
this Rocket's money. That was a huge mistake.

Speaker 1 (56:16):
I'm like, dude, it's two games into the season.

Speaker 2 (56:20):
How do we not how do we not recognize that
as people who have been sport Even if you're the
youngest sports fan on the planet and you're eighteen years old.

Speaker 3 (56:30):
You still have some perspective. You've probably been watching sports
for five six years. You've got to understand one game
does not a season, make even a handful of games.
And then if we get into baseball oftentimes, like we're
talking about, how fifty games isn't sometimes a significant sample.

Speaker 1 (56:45):
Yet it still happens.

Speaker 3 (56:47):
It's a trap that we fall into, how everybody's the
worst and everybody's the best week to week. It's ridiculous.
But yes, Tarry Easton with a very good game. He
was five to seven from three. He had twenty two
points to lead the Rockets in scoring off the bench.
I was encouraged about that, and then I was also
really encouraged by the performance from one other Houston Rocket.

(57:09):
We'll talk about that on the other side, we have
a lot of stuff to get to. I do want
to talk to you guys about show hel A Tani
and Victor wimen Yama. How much do you hate them
because they're with rivals of your respective teams in here
in Houston. How much do you appreciate what they bring
to the table Rockets, any observations you want to make there?
Of course, the Texans get the victory over the San
Francisco forty nine ers. Anything y'all want to get to.

(57:31):
We also have Gut Feelings coming up at eleven thirty.
Adam Clinton joining at one o'clock and you at seven
one three two one two five seven ninety. The phone
number is seven one three two one two five to
seven ninety. It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross
without Matt Thomas, with you until two o'clock ten eighteen

(57:52):
and the am here on Sports Talk seven ninety. Hello,
and welcome back in to the Matt Thomas Show with
Ross without Matt Tom Mus He is out traveling with
the Houston Rockets.

Speaker 2 (58:02):
They're in Toronto.

Speaker 3 (58:04):
Hey, I heard he got held up in customs like
Dave Roberts, so hopefully everything's okay over there. I don't
know what he was trying to smuggle in or okay,
maybe I made that up. Uh did you see that
Dave Roberts talking about how we got held up and
he's like, I don't know if there was any intent there.

Speaker 4 (58:20):
Well, somebody said it's uh the government shutdown, Like, I
guess it's all taken a little extra time. So what
can you police have a little patience and Dave Robins
like I got time for this?

Speaker 3 (58:31):
Well that was always wondering though. But they were in Canada.
They're not shutting down in Canada. He means when they
landed they were running to some issues with customs. I
guess yeah, because because those people so they're still shut down.
They're working without pay. Correct, Is that what's happening right now?

Speaker 2 (58:46):
I have a home as ASA agent's Oh he is
a ts pissed oh man. That's see, speaking of things
we don't really need, all right, No more about the
Jamaican hurricane and no more about the government shutdown. Folks,
burier heads in the sand.

Speaker 1 (59:03):
That's what we do here.

Speaker 2 (59:04):
We talked sports on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 3 (59:06):
Ninety seven to one three two one two five seven
ninety is the phone number if you want to get in.
Seven to one three two one two five seven ninety Yes.
Mentioned Tarry Easton leading the way for the Houston Rockets
with twenty two points also off the bench. A very
impressive performance from Reed Shepherd twenty four minutes, fifteen points,

(59:27):
six of eleven from the field. He's been knocking down
three so far early in the season. Gordy, But how
about eight assists in only two turnovers. That was nice
to see as well. He's been playing with confidence. You
can tell that that has been certainly something that is
being coached into him and talked about. Uh from last
year where he definitely just looked a little pensive, looked

(59:48):
like he was maybe scared to make a mistake, not
necessarily having full confidence in his abilities. He's getting to
the basket, he's putting up shots. They haven't been going
down consistently yet, but that was an encouraging performance him
last night.

Speaker 1 (01:00:01):
Led the team and assists.

Speaker 4 (01:00:03):
Yeah, I mean he's looking like getting a little bit
confident and shooting three. So that's that's the big one,
hit three of them. So yeah, I like his game.
So he had a steal like he was slapping balls.

Speaker 3 (01:00:16):
Yeah, he ripped the ball away from Cam Thomas. First
of all, he was like a snatch and grab. It
was like he was ripping some old ladies purse. And
then he ran the other way and.

Speaker 1 (01:00:25):
Dunked it in.

Speaker 2 (01:00:26):
I'm like, who is this guy? What is Reed Sheppard
doing over here?

Speaker 7 (01:00:30):
This is nice.

Speaker 4 (01:00:30):
He's an underrated defender. I mean I watched him at
Kentucky and he defended pretty well. It is funny though.
I mean we seeing him in person the other night
at to It to Cent was at the game, like
he just looked. He looks like a kid that want
a contest to go play an NBA game, Like anyways,
short shorts, he's got the little boy haircut, like, he
just looks like.

Speaker 3 (01:00:50):
I think he grew the mustache for a little while
to try to look older, but I think it wasn't
working and he shaved it off.

Speaker 2 (01:00:55):
I don't know, we have to ask him about that.
You get like a fade or just something to look
a little bit cooler. He just, you know, right, looks
like a college kid that want to contest. Yeah, he
just he looks like he's, uh, he's like a pledge.
But don't let it like he get bald. So yes,
people are like, oh, like, I'm like, this is what
he does. Don't act like surprise.

Speaker 7 (01:01:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:01:14):
So the three point shooting so far, of course, we're
dealing with very small sample sizes right now with this season.
We're three games in thirty five percent from excuse me,
forty four percent from three so far early on in
the season, but only twenty seven percent from the field.
But how about a men Thompson and Reed Shepherd combining
for sixteen assists and only two turnovers, So that was

(01:01:35):
good to see as well for a men and you
and you did what you need to do against the
Brooklyn Nets. You got to blow out. You were able
to not have to play your starters very much. And
men Thompson only played twenty five minutes, Bartsmath Junior only
played twenty four. Dev Duran only played twenty five minutes.
And you got some work for some guys who needed it,
like Tarry Easton, like Reed Shepherd, you got, you got

(01:01:56):
Jay Shaun Tate into the game, like Aaron Holliday got
some minutes. Overall, very good performance and exactly what you
wanted to see from the Rockets against a lessons stellar competition.
I mean, look, let's be honest, it was like a
preseason game last night, and everybody got their work in,
so it's still at the end of the day, I
was pretty happy to what we saw from Reed Sheppard,
especially with the assistant turnover ratio. Combining that with the

(01:02:18):
men Thompson, I'm feeling encouraged. Early on one and two,
both games could have gone either way to start the season,
and then you got the easy victory against the.

Speaker 4 (01:02:26):
Nets Durant twenty five. I mean, I know most people played.
I mean Chin Gun played thirty a Kokie played thirty one,
Durant at twenty five.

Speaker 2 (01:02:35):
Is that just situation of.

Speaker 4 (01:02:37):
Where the score was or are they gonna maybe kinda
like you see those minutes in some of these kind
of games be twenty two to twenty three.

Speaker 3 (01:02:45):
H m men, Thompson only played twenty five. I think
if they'd needed him, they would have played more. They're
gonna be very I think they're gonna be very conscious
of it. I'm gonna tell you, I don't think it's
an accident. Yeah, but it's just kind of a I
don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:02:55):
I thought initially when they signed him, I thought it
was gonna be a little bit of okay, some rests,
some I mean, probably back to backs.

Speaker 2 (01:03:03):
Yeah, we'll see. So far, he's playing all three games.

Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
We asked him when we had him at Rockets media Day,
and he said, my plan is to play all eighty
two and play all forty eight minutes. Obviously that's not
gonna happen, but we'll see. That's how he's preparing for
the season. But I'm gonna guess he's not going to
play back to backs, but I'm not sure. I think
it'll be situation dependent maybe as well. Yeah, depending on
where they are in the standings and how things go

(01:03:26):
later on in the season. So yeah, it's going to
be an interesting situation to be sure, to kind of
see how it plays out. But they haven't had a
back to back yet, and we'll god, they don't have one,
I don't think for a couple of weeks. I was
looking at the schedule last night. They they've been actually
having a pretty easy go of You've had two you
play played on Tuesday, a couple of days off, and
they had Saturday Sunday off.

Speaker 2 (01:03:47):
It's it's the weekend before Christmas.

Speaker 4 (01:03:49):
They are okay, They're Thursday in New Orleans, off, Friday,
Saturday in Denver, Sunday in Sacramento.

Speaker 2 (01:03:57):
Okay, so that's a three out of four, and then
they stay out West. They play Tuesday Thursday in LA.

Speaker 3 (01:04:03):
And they might have some NBA Cup games mixed in
somewhere in that stretch. I'm not exactly sure. That's between
December sixth eighteenth. Yeah, yeah, okay, so we'll see what happens.
But yeah, the NBA has been conscious of not having
as many back to backs. So that's good, especially when
you have an older star like Kevin Durant. Seven to
one three two one two five seven ninety is the

(01:04:24):
phone number seven one three two one two five seven
ninety on The Matt Thomas Show with Ross CuPy on
hold early on. I appreciate you. Also, let's go ahead
and get after it, Ruben holding longest is next up?

Speaker 2 (01:04:33):
What's up?

Speaker 1 (01:04:34):
Ruben?

Speaker 6 (01:04:35):
Hey Man just wanted to discuss the whole Tony thing
and you know, the greatness as opposed to you know,
the the gotta hate the Dodgers.

Speaker 2 (01:04:42):
Is wearing the Dodger blue Man. It doesn't feel right, Ruben.

Speaker 7 (01:04:45):
It doesn't. It doesn't.

Speaker 6 (01:04:46):
And uh, when you're looking at a play like that,
I'm not sure if y'all watched Guardians of the Galaxy.
I've seen you before, but you see that far where
they're saying, what do you do with this? With the
little group, little baby group, It's like it's too adorable
to kill, you know, take it to the tailor. Yeah,
that's that's Otani for me. He's he's a great player.
He has he's all the skills, like you don't really
see this type of player anytime, a generational player. But

(01:05:09):
he's on the Dodgers, and you're just kind of irking
yourself every time he does something. You're saying Ethanotani. But
then you gotta admire the guy.

Speaker 3 (01:05:18):
Yeah, absolutely, I mean it's he's a freaking unicorn man
and he's I mean, how how are you in the
World Series? Is it eight postseason home runs he has
this year? I think something like that.

Speaker 6 (01:05:29):
Yeah, it's ridiculous.

Speaker 12 (01:05:30):
He goes.

Speaker 3 (01:05:32):
Run one hundred and thirteen miles an hour off the
bat at double, then he hits a home run, double
home run, and he gets intentionally walked four times and
then walks a fifth.

Speaker 2 (01:05:40):
I mean, this, this, this is ridiculous.

Speaker 6 (01:05:43):
This is unbelievable what we were telling We were telling
the as well as like you start walking the guy,
he's like he's gonna he's gonna smash it, and then
you start walking it's like, okay, four times in a
row like this is now we're in the twelve thirteenth
ten and he's like this is embarrassing.

Speaker 12 (01:05:57):
You just picture the guy.

Speaker 1 (01:05:58):
Wing over with you know.

Speaker 3 (01:05:59):
It's crazy too, though, is that they're intentionally walking him
four times and there are two guys who likely when
it's all said and done, will be Hall of Famers
right behind him, Freddy and Mookie Bets and Freddy Freeman.
There's freaking Hall of famers right behind him, and they
did it four times.

Speaker 6 (01:06:14):
It's more of the lesser of evils, perhaps up Otani.
All the stories you hear from the great stories about
him giving all these gloves away to people in your hand,
and all the all the little charity things he does
or big charity things he does, just like, oh, I
hate this guy that can't Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:06:31):
I mean he was.

Speaker 3 (01:06:32):
He was giving his interpreter like ten million bucks. That's
pretty charitable.

Speaker 6 (01:06:36):
Yeah, the gambling thing, that's I love. How we can bypass.

Speaker 2 (01:06:40):
I want to be Otani's friend.

Speaker 6 (01:06:43):
Yeah, just saying you do that and you're golden.

Speaker 2 (01:06:45):
Get a couple of parlays in. All right, thank you,
Reuben appreciates you.

Speaker 3 (01:06:48):
Uh yeah, I mean from all accounts, every story you
read like he's he's super nice.

Speaker 2 (01:06:53):
He's very welcoming.

Speaker 3 (01:06:54):
There's like, what was it like large newpar who was
playing with Team Japan talked about how nice he was,
how he comes up and talks to everybody, and he's
basically like a kid. And then he goes out there
on the mount. How does how do those two things jibe?
Like you think of people like Justin Verlander, who or
Max Schurz or whatever, like these uber competitive pitchers who

(01:07:14):
go out there and need to be nasty on the mound,
and then he's like the sweetest guy ever. And then
he goes and throws six shutout hits, three bombs.

Speaker 1 (01:07:22):
Yeah, that's ridiculous.

Speaker 4 (01:07:23):
I just think he's gonna he's gonna climb up that
list on just everything all post It's nuts considering you
missed the playoffs for like the first six years of
your career and now you get old taste two year run.
This might be the best two year run of postseason
history in anybody's career.

Speaker 2 (01:07:41):
It's just it's insane. It's crazy at a lot. All right, Matt,
we see you on hold. We'll get to you as
we go along. You guys want to get on you
can seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven ninety We
got the sports potpourricoming. It's that time of year.

Speaker 3 (01:07:56):
You have the World Series going on, you have the
Rockets starting their season, you have the Texans in the
thick of things as well. Anything you guys want to
get to seven one three, two, one two five seven
ninety Gut feelings coming up at eleven thirty here on
The Matt Thomas Show with Ross.

Speaker 1 (01:08:13):
Ten thirty three.

Speaker 7 (01:08:16):
In the Am.

Speaker 2 (01:08:17):
Here on Sports Talk seven ninety, Ross Viria with you.

Speaker 1 (01:08:22):
First player on.

Speaker 4 (01:08:23):
In MLB history to reach place nine times in a
postseason game.

Speaker 2 (01:08:26):
I mean, uh, he was the first one to do
eighth right, and maybe even the first one.

Speaker 1 (01:08:30):
Dos seven.

Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
Stupid enough.

Speaker 1 (01:08:34):
Go ahead.

Speaker 2 (01:08:34):
If I'm Toronto, even if two men are on base,
I'm walking.

Speaker 1 (01:08:39):
Nah.

Speaker 2 (01:08:39):
Depending on the situation, you got to pitch. Yeah, absolutely, I.

Speaker 1 (01:08:46):
Take you.

Speaker 3 (01:08:47):
I'm not saying yeah, I'm happy this guy sucks. We're
going to strike him out. That's not what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (01:08:51):
I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (01:08:51):
For eight Mookie bets last night, I'll pitching the you.

Speaker 1 (01:08:53):
Sir, he step into the box. Don't you think you're
feel a littlembarrassed.

Speaker 3 (01:08:57):
You're like, I'm Mookie freaking Bets, like I'm multi time
All Star, silver slugger, all this other stuff like World
Series Champion, I'm mooki f Betts and they walk this
guy four times to get to me and I don't
make them pay at all.

Speaker 2 (01:09:12):
It's kind of not fair. The top three of maybe
he needs.

Speaker 1 (01:09:15):
Show, heybe MOOKI needs his Apple Watch.

Speaker 2 (01:09:17):
Show, Hey Mooky Freddy Freeman. Maybe MOOKI needs J. T.
Watkins in the video room Mooki.

Speaker 4 (01:09:23):
Oh did you hear me talk? I talk about that
this morning. Jay Stu, the former producer on The Jim
Rome Show. Okay, put out a whole tweet on Sunday
how George Springer needed to issue an apology to Dodger.

Speaker 1 (01:09:35):
Fans they are still so obsessed.

Speaker 4 (01:09:38):
Oh yeah, he said, you need the You need to
issue a former apology to Dodger fans coming to Dodger
Stadium for cheating in the seventeen World Series. Oh my god,
we may consider a little remorse for you. But get
ready if not, get ready for some chin music and
all this. I'm like, you're gonna hit him. You're gonna
hit him?

Speaker 2 (01:09:54):
Okay, am I stupid?

Speaker 3 (01:09:56):
The whole Carlos Korea if you don't know, the fact
shut the bleep up thing was that they did not
do it during the postseason.

Speaker 4 (01:10:02):
So that's that was the narrative, and that's what I
thought upon digging. There was an LA Times article written
a few years ago that says Manford did say they
did cheat.

Speaker 2 (01:10:12):
They putting that God.

Speaker 4 (01:10:13):
Now, they said that the banging on the trash can
apparently was you couldn't do that because it was so loud.
But there was a whole theorized piece written about that
they think they were whistling, that there were whistles. There
were distinct whistles throughout the posts, and I'm like, good God, like.

Speaker 1 (01:10:29):
They said that.

Speaker 3 (01:10:29):
They I mean, okay, obviously we're taking Carlo's curry at
his word, but he came out pretty strongly like yeah,
He's like, yeah, we cheated, but we did not do
it during the postseason.

Speaker 2 (01:10:38):
It was too loud exactly, and go back and watch
those guys, because that's back when Astro's crowds weren't spoiled.

Speaker 1 (01:10:43):
But they were.

Speaker 4 (01:10:44):
But this whole, this whole theorized piece was like, yeah,
I think they resorted to whistling, because there's this distinct
whistle when an off speed pictures something, but then you
don't hear. And then somebody else retorted like, yeah, it
turns out when the Dodgers were hitting, I heard that
same distinct whistle, So what is it?

Speaker 2 (01:10:58):
Were they cheating for the Dodger?

Speaker 3 (01:11:00):
Like, come on, man, yeah, I don't think they were
doing like we keep on getting this. Oh they cheated
us in twenty seventeen. The Astros didn't know. You could
argue they maybe they wouldn't have gotten to the postseason,
or they wouldn't have gotten that far whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:11:13):
But and they also won the game seven. Where was
Game seven played?

Speaker 4 (01:11:17):
Christopher Gordy, Yeah at Dodgerston Dodger freaking well they think
they still had it?

Speaker 1 (01:11:22):
I mean, did you see like that?

Speaker 3 (01:11:24):
There's like audio of apparently the Dodgers broadcast when the
what was that game? Where the was it game one
or Game two? Where the Blue Jays were teeing off
They're like, I don't know it almost is it's I
if they know it's coming and.

Speaker 1 (01:11:37):
Are or harsh? Ez did that? Well that's somebody said.

Speaker 2 (01:11:41):
Astros were literally in their building. Can we just admit
they were tipping The Dodgers were tipping pitches. There was
there was no cheating around it. You were just there.

Speaker 3 (01:11:49):
There was like Dodgers said, so, uh uh, George Springer
is wearing some kind of watch. It's not an apple watch,
but he got hit. When he got hit on the wrist,
was like a Dodgers fan zooming in on the video, like, hey,
look at this George Springer's wearing an Apple Watch.

Speaker 2 (01:12:05):
Guys, is unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (01:12:07):
Yeah, he's wearing like a fitbitters that they called it
an ooze or something like that.

Speaker 4 (01:12:10):
I think, oh, yeah, this guy's this guy tweeted at
a Jay stuw you left out these or I don't
remember what you left out the part that he is
still currently cheating.

Speaker 2 (01:12:18):
Who's that, George Springer? How is it currently cheating?

Speaker 3 (01:12:22):
Look at the pictures of the Apple Watch on his wrists?
Oh yeah, okay, you found it. Yeah, that's what people
are saying, like he's there's visual evidence, sir. Yeah, they're
these Dodgers fans in their tenfoil hats. I mean, get
over yourself. So this is what Jason Stewart tweeted some
advice to George Springer as he arrives in LA.

Speaker 1 (01:12:38):
That's what it is.

Speaker 2 (01:12:39):
It's a whoop. Here's what he wrote out.

Speaker 4 (01:12:40):
He wrote an apology for him to the Dodgers organization
and Dodger fans. I want a first and foremost apologize
to you for my decision to cheat during the twenty
seventeen World Series. When Major League Baseball determined in twenty
nineteen that my astros used the legal means to cheat
during that championship season. I've verbally took accountability, saying I
regretted everything I did, but I never took the noble
step and apologize to you directly, who.

Speaker 2 (01:13:03):
Wrote this, Bill Plaski.

Speaker 4 (01:13:04):
The twenty seventeen World Series MVP trophy is a symbol
of shame for me, oh my god, as it is
a reminder I was the best cheater on a team
that was caught cheating. I will never be able to
make up for that. I hope that one day you
will be able to forgive me. I am truly sorry, sincerely,
George Springer. That's what Jason Stewart wanted George Springer to

(01:13:25):
tell Dodger fans, and this guy David responds, I would
still despise him, but that would certainly raise an eyebrow,
and he would earn back a shred of respect.

Speaker 3 (01:13:33):
My god, you earned back a shred of respect. Nobody cares.
Nobody cares what you have to say, but the only way.

Speaker 2 (01:13:39):
Past is the vacate twenty seventeen. How many years were
we gonna do this?

Speaker 3 (01:13:45):
It's twenty twenty five, folks, y'all won last year. Next comment, Now,
twenty twenty was certainly a Mickey Mouse title.

Speaker 2 (01:13:52):
Next comment, did you write one of these for Rookie?

Speaker 5 (01:13:54):
Or yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:13:55):
I like here? Hello?

Speaker 7 (01:13:57):
Hello?

Speaker 2 (01:13:57):
You all cheer when Mookie Betts goes up and Van
drelichen Is in his book talked about the Dodgers being
involved in skin cheating as well in using illegal means
to steal signs.

Speaker 1 (01:14:10):
I am head of rob Manford pr At.

Speaker 2 (01:14:12):
The Astros were the only.

Speaker 1 (01:14:13):
One to do anything. Oh my scapegoat.

Speaker 4 (01:14:16):
Don't believe anything else on any other organization doing anything.

Speaker 3 (01:14:19):
In seventeen and eighteen. According to Evan Drelich's book Winning
Fixes Everything, teams talking about the Dodgers cheating.

Speaker 2 (01:14:27):
We know that the Red Sox did. For a fact.
The Yankees did for a fact. Not only don't talk
about this, this is making me upset.

Speaker 4 (01:14:34):
I when I was in Dodger it was in Famaway
Park earlier this year, and this Red Sox fan getting
into your cheaters. Yes, some second manager started that, what
are you talking about?

Speaker 8 (01:14:44):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:14:44):
Well, yeah, I mean the cognitive dissonance is astounding.

Speaker 3 (01:14:49):
You have very very easy examples to point out Red
Sox Apple Watch, Red Sox twenty eighteen, the mastermind of
the seventeen scandal and the manager of the eighteen Red
Sox Alex Cora, fired and back in the fold, and
somehow still the Astros are the poster boy of this.

(01:15:09):
How are the Red Sox not the poster boy with
everything that I just laid out because they they begged
on some trash cans instead of using Apple Watch.

Speaker 4 (01:15:16):
Well, the city a Red Sox fan is yelling, Jesus
Sanchez just got to the team, and he's like, chetera.

Speaker 3 (01:15:21):
What about about twenty seventeen Houston Astro Taskar Hernandez right now.

Speaker 2 (01:15:25):
He played one game. I think he got hurt on
the team.

Speaker 1 (01:15:29):
He was on the team. He's got a ring. You
didn't ask him to take it back because because everybody's like.

Speaker 3 (01:15:34):
When you when you tell people that al two, they
didn't do it, They're like, well, yeah, he should have
stopped everyone.

Speaker 1 (01:15:38):
He should have stepped up.

Speaker 2 (01:15:39):
He should have said something in the clubhouse and she
should he should have told everyone.

Speaker 1 (01:15:42):
No, shame on you. We'll Taskar Hernandez didn't do that.
We're gonna shame him too.

Speaker 2 (01:15:48):
Gordy, I hate you.

Speaker 1 (01:15:49):
You gotta be fired up about all this.

Speaker 2 (01:15:51):
Matt You've been holding patiently, so we're gonna get you
real quick. What's up, Matty?

Speaker 7 (01:15:57):
Hey?

Speaker 1 (01:15:58):
Go ahead?

Speaker 7 (01:15:59):
Hey, Uh, I gotta, I gotta. I got another on
a Terry Roseier thing.

Speaker 2 (01:16:05):
Okay, what happened?

Speaker 9 (01:16:08):
You know a guy?

Speaker 7 (01:16:10):
Well? Now my next door neighbor, Oh, here we go,
h is I is the baby mama of his son.

Speaker 3 (01:16:20):
Okay, hold on, let me write this now, your next
door neighbors is the baby mama of Terry Rosier exactly, okay.

Speaker 7 (01:16:28):
And the son is a junior high student. And that's
who I feel sorry for now. When he was popped
earlier this summer, she told me everything was clear.

Speaker 2 (01:16:42):
He's in junior high. How old is his son?

Speaker 7 (01:16:46):
H eighth grade?

Speaker 1 (01:16:49):
What's he?

Speaker 2 (01:16:49):
Thirteen? Fourteen? Terry rose years thirty one?

Speaker 11 (01:16:52):
I know it.

Speaker 7 (01:16:53):
They were high school sweethearts.

Speaker 2 (01:16:54):
Oh okay in Ohio.

Speaker 7 (01:16:57):
And yeah, yeah up in Cleveland.

Speaker 2 (01:17:01):
Yeah all right, man, Uh go ahead, and and uh.

Speaker 7 (01:17:07):
Every the kid used to play in the in my
cull to sack every night. Never see him anymore? She
I take care of her yard never never, and she
owes me money. I can't get a hold of her.
So there's I don't know she was involved in it
or what, but there's it's it's really disturbing. No, I'm

(01:17:30):
looking for for sale sign going store? All right, man, Hey,
as far as the Dodgers, go ahead, Yeah, look at
Cody Bellinger's batting average.

Speaker 2 (01:17:45):
Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 7 (01:17:47):
You know, cheating? Were they not cheating?

Speaker 3 (01:17:52):
Well, if you look at one guy's batting average, probably
that isn't going to tell you the whole story, because
I mean we can flip that on its head. Of course,
we know that jose Al two vays or uh, who's
batting average went way up in twenty seventeen and went
back down, was like Marlon Gonzales or somebody like that.

Speaker 9 (01:18:06):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:18:07):
Uh, But Cody Bellinger, I mean he still had a
lengthy career since. Uh he had a nice bounce back
here with the Yankees actually, and he was good with
the Cubs last year, so I mean the year before anyways.
All right, on that note, we're gonna take quick break here.
Chris Gordy is sitting in for Matt Thomas. I am, uh, well,
I'm here is from Ohio. By the way, he is

(01:18:28):
from OHI well, yeah, I brought that up.

(01:18:50):
If you can think you could top that, go ahead.
Seven one three two one two five seven. Night of
the Phone Number seven one three two one two five seven,
Nighty Matt Tomas Show with Ross.

Speaker 2 (01:18:58):
Back in a second, Yeah, I am here on Sports
Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (01:19:05):
I remember one flying by thanks to Chris Gordy hanging
out a couple on hold.

Speaker 2 (01:19:09):
I promise we will get to you very soon.

Speaker 3 (01:19:12):
Got gut feelings coming up at eleven thirty on The
Matt Thomas Show with Ross or Ross VI real with you,
Jonathan Allen. I don't think I've even mentioned. That's very rude.
I'm sorry. We appreciate you, Jonathan. Thank you doing a
great job. As always, Phone lines open at seven one
three two one two five seven ninety. If you want
to talk to Jonathan and give him some suggestions, he's

(01:19:33):
really wrestling over what he should be for Halloween.

Speaker 5 (01:19:37):
So go ahead, you and the lady going out. No,
you know what you're gonna be if we went out,
Actually I don't know. I know she wants to be
Wednesday from the like this, okay, and then you could
be what's the dad's name? Yeah, it don't be the dad.
I guess it's weird go mess Gomez.

Speaker 1 (01:19:54):
Yeah, yeah, you know what.

Speaker 4 (01:19:55):
The most one of the easy popular costumes I've seen
this year people buying it's like a uh, forget, it's
like a hard hat or reflector vest or whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:20:06):
It's basically the jewel thiefs from them.

Speaker 1 (01:20:10):
That's not bad.

Speaker 3 (01:20:11):
And we get a hammer, although I don't if they're
gonna let you into the club with the hammer. That
could be dangerous. And be careful out there, folks Halloween,
and be careful out there, uber drivers. It's gonna get
pretty pricey and you're gonna have some crazy folks. Like
if you're like an uber driver on Halloween, do you
even do? I mean, that's time to make big fares
but also people are like getting in there with like
face paint and god knows what else. Yeah, and then

(01:20:33):
you got fake blood. You got fake blood all over
your back seat. That's not good for anybody. All right,
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety is
the phone number you know. Since go to your hanging out,
I do want to talk a little college football. So
we were talking about this, uh, like the the microwave generation,
the instant gratification generation, how it's getting even worse and
worse and worse.

Speaker 2 (01:20:52):
And now I mean, are we just carrening downhill?

Speaker 3 (01:20:56):
And this is how it's gonna be the new normal
in college football because you have all of these programs.
And I always bring this up with Matt because he's
always like, well, if Texas doesn't win a championship in
three years, it's a massive failure. Well, yeah, you can
point to like ten other programs that are saying that, Alabama, Florida,
Florida State, LSU. There are like ten to fifteen programs
who say, if we're not winning championships, we're failing. Well,

(01:21:18):
only one team can win the championship every year. I
mean that's just how it goes. So you're gonna have
all these programs who are disappointed, and you have a
team like Penn State that made the semi final and
then now literally six games later, they're they're firing their coach.

Speaker 4 (01:21:35):
But let's back it up a little because James Frankel
was given how many years there at at Penn State.

Speaker 2 (01:21:43):
But do you think a lot of really good seasons?

Speaker 4 (01:21:45):
Yes, a lot of ten to eleven win seasons, but
go look up his record against like top ten teams.
It was something like four and twenty something like. He
could never win the big game.

Speaker 3 (01:21:56):
It wasn't great for sure, but he had he had
Flet's see one, two, three, five top ten finishes.

Speaker 1 (01:22:04):
Okay at Penn State, but eventually you got to get
over the hump.

Speaker 4 (01:22:08):
And one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven,
twelve seasons, they are never getting over the hump.

Speaker 3 (01:22:15):
So if you to put somebody else, I mean it's
Penn State. Though Okay, Penn State isn't in Texas or
Louisiana adjacent to Texas as well, which Louisiana itself, of
course is a fertile recruiting ground, but I mean California,
Florida doing that in at Penn State. I think he
was doing a pretty good job overall. It could it
have been bet job, especially in bigger games. Absolutely, But
how many times when he did lose those big games

(01:22:37):
against Ohio State and Michigan did he have did did
people think that he had the best football team? Did
the people think that he was making huge mistakes and
he was just a horrible coach? Or they got beat
by better football teams? Well, I mean more talented football teams.
I should say as well. How many times in those
matchups against Ohio State and Michigan in Oregon, did James
Franklin have the most talented team?

Speaker 1 (01:22:58):
Wow?

Speaker 4 (01:22:58):
I mean it's very few top ten talent though. You
had a Saquon Barkley dual Carter, some dudes, and it
ain't like you were little old you know, SMU trying
to get by, like you've had elite talent. I think
that's a pretty fair standard though for a Penn State
because here's everybody's got different standards.

Speaker 2 (01:23:19):
Alabama, the expectation is very real.

Speaker 4 (01:23:21):
You're supposed to make the playoff every year, and you're
supposed to win a championship once every couple of years.
That's the that's the standard say have been created there.
I think in the second tier, you've got schools in
Ohio State. I probably may even push up there once
every two to three years. The expectations of Ohio State,
we should be playing for it.

Speaker 2 (01:23:37):
Okay, who else is up there?

Speaker 3 (01:23:38):
Then Georgia probably Georgie's probably three teams said you need
to be winning every three years.

Speaker 2 (01:23:42):
So I mean, that's the only teams that can win.

Speaker 4 (01:23:44):
Champions I think the next tier is teams that once
every four to five years, we think we should be
maybe have a championship caliber team. And that's where I
put l s U. That's where I put Texas. That's
where I put The boosters at Texas will disagree with you.
They think they're in tier. I know they haven't proven
that in the last twenty years.

Speaker 2 (01:24:02):
But I mean two semi final runs, that's the thing.

Speaker 3 (01:24:06):
You're talking about expectations. But what are these boosters who
are pouring millions into the program. They think they should
be in that Alabama tier. And I'm talking about guys
at Florida, booschers at Florida, but people, I mean, yeah,
but no.

Speaker 4 (01:24:17):
Florida's in that tea. I'd put Florida in that tier
with the LSUS of like once every four to five years.
They're not going to run you off after one bad
year or two bad years. Like because again people understand,
like if you just had a team that won on
a championship run and then you lose your gut it,
you lose all those people and you go seven to
five next year, most people are I totally get it,
we got gutted, but let's rebuild. We're rebuilding for that

(01:24:40):
next year. But for people like Brian Kelly, you had
four years to prove it. By year four, this was
his most talented team. This was supposed to be the
team that could make a championship run. Now again with
the twelve team playoff, nobody was saying win a championship.
They were saying, make a deep playoff run.

Speaker 3 (01:24:56):
That's what the expectation and what it what it was
bretton Brian Kelly's season, I mean, well, the first couple
of years when he was pretty good, they didn't have
they didn't have a twelve team plays.

Speaker 4 (01:25:05):
First year they beat Alabama, they won the SEC West. Yeah,
and then the next year he has Jane Daniels wins
the Heisman. But you have historically the worst defense you've
ever had in the history.

Speaker 1 (01:25:15):
Of La shoe.

Speaker 2 (01:25:16):
Uh apparently, Matt Thomas is what what do you want?

Speaker 6 (01:25:19):
Man?

Speaker 1 (01:25:19):
Are you?

Speaker 7 (01:25:20):
Are you?

Speaker 2 (01:25:20):
Are you awake?

Speaker 9 (01:25:23):
I watched every bit of that game last night. Do
you believe me or not? Not that it's accurate?

Speaker 10 (01:25:30):
Yeah, I'm just driving to the airport and during this
show a great conversation.

Speaker 9 (01:25:35):
What do you what are your quartek?

Speaker 1 (01:25:36):
Where are you?

Speaker 2 (01:25:37):
Oh, you're in Houston, Texas. I don't know where you were.

Speaker 9 (01:25:40):
Yeah, I'm going to I don't know what I thought.

Speaker 2 (01:25:42):
Oh, okay, I thought the plane left after the game
or something.

Speaker 10 (01:25:46):
No, I mean, I wouldn't be terrible. Extra time in
canad would be nice. You know, Kim Morton's in a
good exchange rate. But that's not the reason why.

Speaker 2 (01:25:53):
How's your passport looking.

Speaker 9 (01:25:55):
Updated?

Speaker 1 (01:25:56):
By the way?

Speaker 2 (01:25:57):
Okay, okay, great? All right, what do you want?

Speaker 10 (01:26:03):
Well, I'm gonna say my point about not winning a
championship is being a failure.

Speaker 9 (01:26:08):
Look at all these coaches that are listening to their jobs.
It's proven my point.

Speaker 1 (01:26:11):
You all this money, it's proving nil.

Speaker 9 (01:26:14):
All this absolutely prove my point.

Speaker 10 (01:26:17):
Nobody has nobody has time to ill programs you spend
all this money you win. Ya think if uh Texas
Tech doesn't win a national championship, they're gonna fire everybody there.

Speaker 9 (01:26:26):
Oh hell yeah he's going to Yeah, but.

Speaker 3 (01:26:28):
Don't you think, But don't you think that's a ridiculous
standard to hold every single you're holding fifteen to twenty
and if you throw Texas Tech in there and some
other nil programs, you're getting up to like twenty programs.
We need to be winning the championship. And like Gordy said,
there's three teams he named that should be winning the championship, Well,
then that's all the championships. Like, it's just unrealistic to
me that everybody thinks they should be winning all the time.

Speaker 4 (01:26:48):
There's a group of twenty teams though that I say,
they should have been have a chance to compete.

Speaker 2 (01:26:55):
And and four to five years is a good enough
sample size.

Speaker 4 (01:26:58):
Nobody's firing coaches at after one year it's Jeff s
traklo is there, twelve years there, they're getting a rope.
But you gotta at least show you have a chance
to get there. And Brian Kelly was showing he was
never going to get there.

Speaker 3 (01:27:13):
You think if Brian Kelly stayed there ten more years,
they would have never won a championship.

Speaker 4 (01:27:17):
Well, you don't get ten years, you get five, and
this was supposed to be his year. It takes the
next step. So I think it's fair. I think it's
fair to give these coaches. Look at Billion Napier, he
massively underachieved at Florida.

Speaker 2 (01:27:31):
He got four.

Speaker 4 (01:27:32):
I'm sorry, that's that's enough timetable to tell, is this
guy's going to be a championship coach.

Speaker 3 (01:27:37):
I think the expectations programmed to program. If you add
it all up, it's just ridiculous. The expectations go ahead.

Speaker 1 (01:27:45):
I agree.

Speaker 9 (01:27:46):
I agree with you guys. I agree with you all.
It's totally unrealistic.

Speaker 10 (01:27:49):
But I promise you Joey McGuire does not get Red
Raiders to a tournament in the next three years.

Speaker 9 (01:27:55):
He's out of work. But staring in the story Clay Campbell,
I ain't paid all that cash for nothing.

Speaker 2 (01:28:00):
But that's another thing.

Speaker 3 (01:28:01):
That's another interesting discussion is for me, is like, who
was Joey McGuire a hot candidate anywhere? No, all of
a sudden, Joey McGuire is this smart top ten coach
because he got players so.

Speaker 2 (01:28:14):
I think that's fair.

Speaker 4 (01:28:15):
Though they went out and bought a top ten roster.
If you can't win with that, then nets on coaching.

Speaker 3 (01:28:21):
No, I understand that, But nobody thought that Joey McGuire
was some kind of genius coach before this year and
all of a sudden they're in the top ten.

Speaker 2 (01:28:29):
It's because it comes down.

Speaker 1 (01:28:30):
To the players.

Speaker 2 (01:28:31):
He was thought of it as a pretty good coach.

Speaker 3 (01:28:33):
I think there's a certain baseline you hit where it
kind of it comes down to the player. Especially in
the NIL age, it comes down more to the players
that you're able to acquire than the coaching nanny would be.

Speaker 2 (01:28:45):
Probably, how did you say?

Speaker 4 (01:28:46):
It look like absolute dog crap under Deshaun what's his face?
And the minute they fire him? They beat Penn's State?

Speaker 2 (01:28:52):
What happened last week? They lost like fifty six to three.
But what I'm saying is was that the talent or
was that coach?

Speaker 4 (01:29:00):
Cause clearly can you say I had the talent to
beat Penn State, to beat whoever they beat the next week?

Speaker 2 (01:29:04):
Like, uh, let me go, I'm trying to find the
didn't they just get stomped?

Speaker 1 (01:29:08):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:29:08):
They lost fifty six to six. The three games. Part
of that. They won three games and they just lost
fifty six to six because that's a team. Oh yeah,
well no, you said the coaching matters. So all of
a sudden, the genius coach lost fifty six to six.

Speaker 4 (01:29:22):
You're saying it's only on the players. I'm saying I
say that. I didn't say it's only on the players.
If Kurt Georgia anything else. For winning twelve, we got
to hit the.

Speaker 1 (01:29:30):
Top of the r Matt.

Speaker 9 (01:29:32):
I'm proud of you, guys. I'll talk you tomorrow for Toronto.

Speaker 2 (01:29:35):
Okay, thank you very much. Matt Thomas from Toronto.

Speaker 3 (01:29:38):
He's gonna hear O Canada fifty times because he thinks
it's better than the Star Spangled banner. What was the
what was the final tally on that on that instaple
one day? I think yeah, eight to one. Maybe we
took like ten people before he got one. All right, Corny,
appreciate you hanging out me some slip. Can we go
take a nap please?

Speaker 1 (01:29:55):
No, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:29:56):
I'm worried about you. Don't The man's doing morning shows.
He's the PD in like six markets and he does
locked onn SEC. Appreciate you making time for me, Chris
Gordy uh in this first hour, all right, those are
you on?

Speaker 11 (01:30:07):
Hole?

Speaker 2 (01:30:07):
I promise because I'm flying solo.

Speaker 1 (01:30:09):
Please don't go anywhere.

Speaker 2 (01:30:10):
I want to talk to you guys.

Speaker 3 (01:30:12):
So I'm flying solo for the next couple of hours.
We got gut Feelings coming up at eleven thirty. We
have Adam Clanton joining at one o'clock and it is
basically the Sport's our V show. Is this a bad
idea from our higher ups?

Speaker 2 (01:30:22):
I think?

Speaker 3 (01:30:22):
So for the next two hours, you guys want to
get in seven one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one three two, one two five seven ninety
The Matt Thomas Show with Ross continues with hour number two.

Speaker 2 (01:30:33):
In just a second is the Matt Thomas Show with
Ross done spot. It is the third hour of The
Matt Thomas Show with Ross without Matt Thomas.

Speaker 3 (01:30:50):
He'll be back tomorrow, then off on Thursday. He's in
us with that Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule, which I always
appreciated in college because those are the shorter sessions.

Speaker 2 (01:31:00):
Really, it was more of a Tuesday Thursday guy for
the hour and a half. Yeah, and I have my
guy to then you got your Fridays off. Yeah, I
was just extremely lazy in those days and unmotivated and.

Speaker 1 (01:31:12):
Well I had a lot of issues.

Speaker 2 (01:31:13):
Anyways, let's move on here on Sports Talk seven ninety
and has our number three of the show we made
Now all right, mama, I'm here on Sports Talk seveninety.
Jonathan Allen is here as well. You guys can hang
out on the phone line. James will see you. We'll
get you in just a section.

Speaker 3 (01:31:27):
But second, but now we have to get to this
top sports news items of other day. We call it
the news at noon, Jonathan. We got a few things
to get too in the News at noon.

Speaker 7 (01:31:40):
Correct.

Speaker 5 (01:31:41):
There there was a lot of things going on yesterday,
but I wanted to start off with our local you know,
I know this, you know NFL, and well serious probably
didn't get a lot of catch the Rockets game. They
end up they do take the Brooklyn next down one
thirty seven to one oh nine, improving no records of
one and two. Not what we we were gonna start off,
but you know it was alright, Shin Gun going for

(01:32:03):
seven and eleven from the field, two from two for three,
twenty one points, six rebounds, six assist. Torry Easton finally
showing up and giving us what he was supposed to
be doing any last two games. He didn't really show
it out those first two games, give us eight and
twelve five seven from three and five rebounds.

Speaker 2 (01:32:21):
Man, did you see what shoes he was wearing?

Speaker 7 (01:32:24):
Well?

Speaker 5 (01:32:24):
Shoot, not, I is I actually I didn't say anything.
He was wearing the Angel Reese me Bound signature shoes.
You know, Okay, it's a hot, Tay boy. Really, I
think they're really nice.

Speaker 1 (01:32:35):
Torry Easton agrees with you. I think that I think
the nice the nice.

Speaker 11 (01:32:39):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:32:39):
And I was wearing the Reebok Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:32:42):
Yeah, I think they're called the me Bounds Reebok Angel
Reese ones.

Speaker 2 (01:32:46):
He was wearing those last night. He was bawling out.
He's gotta keep wearing them. It went for d let
the team with twenty two points wearing the Mebound.

Speaker 5 (01:32:52):
Yeah, because after the OKC game he looked like he
was he didn't get that rookie attention.

Speaker 3 (01:32:56):
And are you much of a sneakrad Jonathan? Are you
just like wearing whatever now? I wear whatever I used
to be. I mean it's expensive.

Speaker 2 (01:33:02):
Yeah, it happen.

Speaker 1 (01:33:03):
And when you're in track, you spend so much money
on like running shoots.

Speaker 2 (01:33:06):
Yeah, that game. Man's like, man, I would be a sneakerhead,
but I just don't have the funds.

Speaker 1 (01:33:12):
I don't got fifty for you.

Speaker 5 (01:33:14):
And I'm not gonna wear him every day. I'm gonna
wear him what once a month.

Speaker 3 (01:33:18):
I don't you know exactly. You had to wait for
the market to go up on him. It's a whole thing,
all right. Anyways, Uh yeah, So a nice win by
the Rockets. You mentioned the twenty two points by Tarry Easton.
It was a breakout game. I mean literally two games in.
I was seeing people who.

Speaker 2 (01:33:34):
Follow the Rockets like, man, I can't believe Tarry Easton,
you bet on himself. I mean, he's got to be
regretting all the millions he's costing himself not taking that
extension from the Rockets.

Speaker 5 (01:33:43):
Two games in, guys, you know number three, but you're
talking about because that first game he looked like he
was just out the dumps.

Speaker 7 (01:33:50):
It wasn't. It wasn't.

Speaker 1 (01:33:52):
Man, he's all good.

Speaker 3 (01:33:53):
Tory Easton is a dog man. He's gonna be okay.
If there's one thing we know, it's gonna be his
competitive fire. Yes, he only scored three and four points
in the first two games, but exploded for twenty two
points against the Brooklyn.

Speaker 5 (01:34:04):
Nets, so hopefully we see that again. Of course, I
just want to give you know, Reeve Shepherd actually showed
up that he can do a little Something's got that
pressure on them. Six for eleven, three for seven, the
three point at least taking those shots.

Speaker 1 (01:34:15):
I know he was a little nervous and.

Speaker 5 (01:34:17):
Okay, see, but he got the job done, got a
little fifteen points if y'all have missed that game. And
I wanted to bring up I know, Monday, Sorry, yeah, Monday.
Matt yesterday was talking about the NBA and a membo
about the gambling, and I wanted to make sure I
got that with this little member that.

Speaker 2 (01:34:36):
Gave this is the are you gonna read the whole memo?
I was gonna parapise.

Speaker 1 (01:34:41):
I just kidding.

Speaker 2 (01:34:42):
Everybody needs to be yeah, yeah, but the risks of gambling.

Speaker 5 (01:34:46):
Yeah, and the reoccurrence of the integrity issues across sports
and the emergency emergence of novel betting formats and markets,
this is an opportune time to carefully reassess how sports
betting should be regulated.

Speaker 1 (01:34:59):
And this has coming out for an NBA saying they
might have to come.

Speaker 3 (01:35:01):
With Adam Silver and the NBA are like, hey, guys,
it's not us. It's not us taking all this money
and all of our players who are getting involved in
these betting skilt. It's the sports books and the legislators.
They need to figure out how to regulate this. It's
not us the NBA. Very funny, we're all looking or
you see that meme where the guy's wearing the hot
dog suit, We're all looking for the guy who did

(01:35:22):
this because the hot dog mobile like crashes into the house.
Oh I know it's yeah, yeah, that's from uh what
is that called something, Tim Robinson? I think you should
leave with Tim Robinson.

Speaker 1 (01:35:32):
Yeah, no, I know you're talking about. Yeah, we're all
looking for the guy who did this. Yeah, it was you.

Speaker 2 (01:35:37):
NBA.

Speaker 3 (01:35:38):
You've taken all that money and you're they're not gonna
stop taking the money. I mean people are like, yeah,
maybe you know they're gonna dial back all this revenue.

Speaker 1 (01:35:44):
Yeah right.

Speaker 2 (01:35:45):
You get in these owner meetings, they're seeing record revenues.
And one of the reasons they've done that is because
they've been taking all this cash from the sport. This
the sports books now that's gonna go away and not
go away.

Speaker 3 (01:35:56):
I think at some point that'll go down somewhat because
I don't think that the legal sports betting.

Speaker 2 (01:36:02):
I think there's gonna be initial pop.

Speaker 3 (01:36:03):
You're gonna have people that kind of lose enough money
to say, hey, you know what, I can't do this anymore,
and they get out of the game.

Speaker 2 (01:36:08):
I saw this with poker.

Speaker 3 (01:36:10):
When this is another back in my day for you,
Jonathan Allen two thousand and three, How old were you?
Negative one one? There was this huge poker boom. It
was party poker, it was full tilled poker, it was
poker stars. They were making all these millions. Everybody was
playing online poker because a Chris money this guy named
Chris money Maker who was a stone cold amateur, won

(01:36:30):
the World Series of Poker. Everybody's like, I can do that.
So there was a big poker boom and even I
was going I was I was I.

Speaker 1 (01:36:37):
Was bagging my remp with my poker money that I
was making.

Speaker 2 (01:36:40):
And I was like, I gonna do this forever. This
is amazing.

Speaker 3 (01:36:42):
And then it died down eventually because people who are
losing and bad at it, they eventually get out of
the game. So people who are gambling either A gambling
addicts who need to get out of the game and
go cold turkey, or B people who were like, you
know what, this isn't worth it. I'm losing too much money.
My wife is getting is getting upset. She's looking at
our bank statements and she's saying, I gotta quit this.
Like the the numbers will go down eventually, I think,

(01:37:06):
but it to to what extent we we will continue
to see.

Speaker 5 (01:37:09):
Yeah, and the mafia is involved, and you know, we
don't ask me how to play poker, so let's go
play some poker that sounds.

Speaker 1 (01:37:18):
And of course we got to talk.

Speaker 5 (01:37:19):
About the two AM World Series eighteen innings. Oh tani, guys,
I know Houston, I know we don't like him. I know,
I know, I know we don't cartoonish. We have to
talk about we have to bring this up. Four at bets, yes,
four hits, yes, two home runs yes, two doubles as well?

Speaker 1 (01:37:42):
How many bas how many times walks? Times he got
on base?

Speaker 2 (01:37:45):
Guys, I don't even know. I don't even know how
many times has a guy got nine times on base
in any game?

Speaker 7 (01:37:49):
Ever?

Speaker 5 (01:37:50):
We are seeing the Jackie Robinson babe brute this that
this is this guys. We gotta we gotta, we gotta
rush in it, watch it.

Speaker 2 (01:37:57):
I have I have a hot take.

Speaker 1 (01:37:58):
I mean, I'll take though it's the greatest player of
all time.

Speaker 5 (01:38:02):
It's the greatest. No, and I'm agree with you, it's
the greatest painter. I don't want to I don't want
to be bootlecking, but I'm.

Speaker 2 (01:38:07):
Just saying he's throwing six inning shutout with ten strikeouts
and then he hits three moms wed.

Speaker 5 (01:38:14):
You we realize how stupid that is, single handedly keeping
the Dodgers back in the game five and five and
going to eighteen innings for Freeman to walk it off.

Speaker 1 (01:38:25):
I fell asleep on the fourteenth. I tried.

Speaker 5 (01:38:28):
That's why I'm groggy today, guys. But it was just
a game you had to watch, and you gotta keep
watching it.

Speaker 2 (01:38:33):
Apparently there was a guy who got nine hits in
a game back in there.

Speaker 1 (01:38:39):
He tied the major league back. Yeah it was it
was Shifty Burnett.

Speaker 2 (01:38:44):
No, that wasn't his name. Johnny Burnett And okay, Johnny
Barnett nineteen thirty two, Max carry In nineteen twenty two
and Stan Hack. I mean, is that the most nineteen
forties names you ever heard.

Speaker 3 (01:38:59):
Stan Stan Hacked to the mad folks, and those are
these are all in eighteen inning games.

Speaker 1 (01:39:04):
By the way.

Speaker 3 (01:39:05):
That's funny, though, everybody. All four of the guys who
shared the record were in nineteen eight excuse me, eighteen
inning games. Max Carrey, whoever the hell that is, did it.
In an eighteen inning game. He had six hits and
three walks.

Speaker 2 (01:39:17):
Nine hits.

Speaker 3 (01:39:18):
Johnny Burnett's to go nine straight hits, no walks. He said,
you guys are walking. Y'all are chumps.

Speaker 2 (01:39:22):
Nine hits, nine hits in nine innings in an eighteen
inning game. Eighteen Okay, okay, I say Stan Hack had
five hits and four walks in an eighteen in game.
Oh Tani has the most walks on this hit on
this list. He had a five walks, four of them intentional.
Four hits in an eighteen inning game.

Speaker 1 (01:39:42):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (01:39:44):
Insane, And I wanted.

Speaker 5 (01:39:45):
To bring just real quick, what else about this? I
just wanted to bring up the Brian Kelly situation one
more time. He's gone, He's gone, And I'm just reading
this from CBS saying that it seems like they didn't
even really tell him right out the bat. His fingerprint
didn't work when he tried to go to work tell

(01:40:06):
the CBS Sports until a couple minutes.

Speaker 2 (01:40:08):
You know what that tells me.

Speaker 1 (01:40:09):
That tells me he kind of was a bad And
that tells me people will twisting the knife.

Speaker 5 (01:40:13):
And I want to tell you And for people that
don't know about this, just Division one coaches and I've
had my fair.

Speaker 1 (01:40:18):
Share of them. Dude, they're really they're shut.

Speaker 2 (01:40:21):
He said, shut folks, That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (01:40:24):
You can't say that.

Speaker 2 (01:40:26):
I know you did.

Speaker 1 (01:40:29):
You can't say that word. The word you said. No,
Uh okay, but yes, you have some people who are
bad people.

Speaker 3 (01:40:38):
And Brian Kelly it sounds like from all accounts from
former players and stuff like that, he was one of
I'll give you one more news item. Jonathan Spencer Rattler
benched for this for the New Orleans Saints.

Speaker 2 (01:40:49):
Tyler Shuck is now going to start, as he was
drafted in the second round by the Saints over Brad Wow.
So Tyler Schuck starting over Spencer Ratler for the New
Orleans Saints. That is your news item from the New
Orleans Bureau of the News at noon. All Right, a

(01:41:11):
lot of stuff going on in sports. You just heard
us talk about. We didn't even really mention the Texans.
They at the game coming up against the Broncos. Ray
had the gut feeling if they beat the Broncos there
may or maybe it was somebody else. Actually, was it
Brian the head that gut feeling if they beat the Broncos,
they're making the playoffs? We can talk about the Texans.
Rockets got their first win last night. Tarry Easton was impressive,
but I was also very impressed by Reed Shepherd, who

(01:41:34):
had his best game so far this year. Anything you
guys want to talk about that show Hail Tani eighteen
innings with the Los Angeles Dodgers, nine times on base
And I was mentioning this earlier. If you guys want
to get into this, does it kind of does it
stick in your crawl when you have this all time
great player? And everybody, if you're listening to me right now,
you're a sports fan, right We love sports. We appreciate sports.

(01:41:56):
I love watching all time great things and things we've
ever seen before. That's why I stayed up and watch
an entire game. Shoe Otani's something we've never seen before.
And he wears Dodger blue Ugh Victor Woman Yama something
we've never seen before.

Speaker 1 (01:42:12):
And he's wearing Spurs silver and black. How do you
feel about that?

Speaker 3 (01:42:17):
And anything you want to get to Phone lines open
with you until two o'clock. Adam Clanton will join at
one pm. So I'm flying solo till then. You guys
want to get in a couple of minutes talk to me.
I do appreciate it. James with CE and Hold will
get to you as well. Phone lines open seven one
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven ninety twelve eighteen pm here

(01:42:47):
on Sports Talk seven ninety in the midst of our
number three of the Matt Thomas Show with Ross no
Man Thomas though, flying solo two one o'clock.

Speaker 2 (01:42:56):
You guys want to get in, you can.

Speaker 3 (01:42:58):
It's seven one three two one two five seven ninety
the phone number seven one three two one two five
seven ninety. You can also send tweets to at sports
RV and you can follow me on Instagram at sports
RV as well. Appreciate those of you who did that
in the previous hour, talking a lot about talking about

(01:43:19):
a lot of different stuff that has been going on.
I mean, that World Series game was incredible last night.
I know it still hurts that it's the Dodgers, and
I wanted the Dodgers to win.

Speaker 1 (01:43:28):
I'm with you, I'm with you. I was rooting for
the Blue Jays.

Speaker 2 (01:43:33):
They didn't get it done, and they got Shoho Tani
on the hill today going up against Shane Bieber. Let's
go Blue Jays.

Speaker 3 (01:43:42):
But I mean, this is absolute freak show stuff getting
on base nine different times now, four of those were intentional,
and you know, I was kind of thinking about that
last night.

Speaker 2 (01:43:50):
I'm like, an, does it really count their intentional walks?
I'm like, absolutely they count.

Speaker 3 (01:43:53):
There's two freaking Hall of Famers in the lineup right
behind him, and they're putting him on because he is
that dangerous Mookie Betts Freddie Freeman are the next two
guys in the lineup, and they're putting show Heyl Tawani
on base for free. He is that dangerous, crazy stuff
happening right now in baseball. I mean, it's it's a
fun time right now with what he's doing.

Speaker 1 (01:44:17):
And what Wimby's doing. But we're here in Houston, so
we can that stuff comes with a grain of salt.
But it is what it is.

Speaker 3 (01:44:25):
Seven one three two point two five seven ninety is
the phone number James Incline has been holding patiently, So
we'll get you.

Speaker 7 (01:44:32):
James.

Speaker 2 (01:44:32):
How's it going, James, you're doing all right?

Speaker 12 (01:44:34):
Yeah, I'm gonna get Yeah. Ross, I was watching that
Mississippi State game at Texas one. Yes, he's gonna be
able to play this Saturday.

Speaker 3 (01:44:41):
He did not practice yesterday. I don't have word on
him practicing today. I'm gonna guess it's gonna be Matthew Caldwell,
the backup transfer from Troy who is a senior against
Vanderbilt on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (01:44:53):
If I had to guess, well, he threw that touchdown
and overtime, So yes he did.

Speaker 1 (01:44:59):
That was nice cat.

Speaker 2 (01:45:00):
That was a nice pitching catch there.

Speaker 12 (01:45:02):
Yeah, it was an unbelievable catch. It was unbelievable. But yeah,
but I just kind of want enough. Art's gonna be
able to show up or I don't know what happened
to I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:45:10):
He got can cuss.

Speaker 3 (01:45:11):
So he was he was running and then he got
he he was getting tackled and then the initial hit.
He was fine, but a second defender came in and
you know, to finish the tackle onn't dirty player or anything,
just football. And with the with the second hit, his
head slammed into the turf. It is very clear to
me that he got can cuss.

Speaker 12 (01:45:29):
I saw him the knee. I mean I saw the hit,
but it looked like they hit his knees.

Speaker 3 (01:45:32):
I went, yeah, yeah, so if you look, if you
look again, you can see his head slam onto the turf.

Speaker 12 (01:45:39):
Well, I was just call him basically, I was calling
him gut feelings.

Speaker 2 (01:45:42):
Time you got any gut feelings?

Speaker 1 (01:45:44):
What you got?

Speaker 12 (01:45:45):
Well, the gut feelings is the yo, Achel move into
the top twenty. They'll move out of the top twenty
five and move into the top twenty.

Speaker 3 (01:45:51):
Okay next week, Yeah, well they they're home for West Virginia, right,
they should beat down the West Virginia.

Speaker 2 (01:45:56):
West Virginia's never yet.

Speaker 12 (01:45:57):
Yeah they should, Yeah they should. Thanks you Ross, thanks a.

Speaker 3 (01:46:02):
Lot, appreciate you getting in James. Yeah, Cougar is obviously
doing very well with coach Fritz. Seven and one on
the season. Now, only loss was against Texas Tech. Somebody
tweeted me with some gut feelings. It was Timothy Davis
appreciate you. Ross Texans blow out the Broncos. I'm on
board with that. I don't know that that's gonna happen.

(01:46:22):
I don't think that's gonna happen, but I'm on board
with it. And he said uf H will only have
one loss at the end of the season. Now that
will mean they are national champions. Right, they've lost one game,
they win every other game, that means they're Big twelve
champs and then their national champs. He makes me mean,
he probably means at the end of the regular season. Dude,

(01:46:46):
it's not crazy. It's not crazy to say the Cougars
could get into the playoff if they now, if they
continue to win these games. SFA win was the catalyst
that the confidence they needed.

Speaker 1 (01:47:02):
I got you, Jacky'll be okay, It's okay, we got Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:47:04):
They took the check.

Speaker 1 (01:47:06):
You take your ass whoop, and you take that check.

Speaker 2 (01:47:07):
Maybe it's all good.

Speaker 3 (01:47:09):
Gotta I gotta pay for the equipment for next year.
Gotta pay for those new new bleacher improvements. They need
some more nuts and bolts for the bleachers out there.
They actually do so they're a little rickety out there
in nagadocious. What's that stadium called who's it named after? Uh?

Speaker 1 (01:47:26):
A songwriter? Guy A blank? Oh, I know this too. Oh,
that's gonna. I'm not ain't gonna look it up. I'm gonna.

Speaker 2 (01:47:33):
I'm gonna look it up for you right now.

Speaker 1 (01:47:34):
Homer, Bryce, Homer, that's my home of brass stadiums day.

Speaker 2 (01:47:40):
You know what did Homer, Bryce do?

Speaker 5 (01:47:42):
He dug the first well and nagadocios And if y'all
haven't been to say, I know, it's in a big hill.
It isn't like a little ditch like they just surrounded
it and built it in the like two big hills.

Speaker 2 (01:47:53):
Wait a minute, the stadiums in the side of a ditch.

Speaker 1 (01:47:55):
Like this too, So there's two big hills. I'm trying
to just not make the jokes about you and your
stadium over there. That is two big battles. That's a
big hell. I know people can get.

Speaker 2 (01:48:05):
People can get sensitive, and I know people don't cry
about it. You should mean things about my school.

Speaker 3 (01:48:12):
So I'm trying to be nice to u s FA.
But but John's not making it easy. He just said
your stadium is in a ditch. It's what it is.
And they play concrete on the side.

Speaker 2 (01:48:26):
Eh, well, we want to build up a stadium, let's
just build one on the side of a ditch.

Speaker 1 (01:48:31):
See the foundation.

Speaker 2 (01:48:32):
That's practical. That's called engineering, folks.

Speaker 1 (01:48:36):
That's what you do.

Speaker 2 (01:48:36):
That's what the the smarts over there, all right?

Speaker 3 (01:48:40):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety is
the phone number you want to get in Brian and
Pearland is next up.

Speaker 2 (01:48:45):
What's up, Brian?

Speaker 11 (01:48:47):
He got a heavy back here.

Speaker 1 (01:48:49):
Hey, glad to be back.

Speaker 11 (01:48:52):
Yeah, Hey, Michal last week called Matt. I gone up
for the Texan Seahawks game. It was a good atmosphere,
but there was nothing like that stadium. When Springer went
deep an old astro to put Mariners fans out of
their own misery.

Speaker 2 (01:49:08):
Uh what the fans, Brian?

Speaker 3 (01:49:10):
What percentage of the fans like had their phone out
and we're watching the Mariners The.

Speaker 11 (01:49:15):
Ones around me probably seventy percent? Yeah, or the person
next to them had it, so they were sharing with
their you know, the person there. But especially the groan
that went out when Julio struck out on strike three.
That was the but they got loud when Raleigh put

(01:49:35):
them up three to one, and then when Springer made
it four to three. We were walking around and told
Matt and there probably a couple of thousand Texan fans
that made the trip, and we all kind of secretly
whispered it had to be Springer. It had to be
Springer to do that to Mariners fans. But real quick
just went away and on someone.

Speaker 12 (01:49:53):
I let Jonathan know about it.

Speaker 11 (01:49:55):
Just something NBA wise and people may not know, especially
when it comes to win Mey.

Speaker 7 (01:50:00):
And the Spurs.

Speaker 11 (01:50:01):
There's actually a proposition going on in San Antonio right now.
I'm just something to keep your eye on in the
next few months, in maybe a year. The next Tuesday.
They have a funding boat going on currently for they
want to do a project Marvel similar to the Battery
in Atlanta. They want to move with Spurs back downtown

(01:50:22):
and fund it with hotel and rental car taxes, like
a lot.

Speaker 12 (01:50:26):
Of stadiums in that too.

Speaker 11 (01:50:27):
But there's getting a lot of pushback on that and
actually creating that whole deal going on. And so if
that proposition fails next week, I'm not saying for sure
it's done, but it could start leading to some treacherous
times about the Spurs uply remaining in San Antonio. But
I'd be curious to see if the league stepped in

(01:50:48):
at that point and said no, no, no, we're going
to do everything we can to keep them here, or
if they're gonna just let that run. Exports said, hey,
if Peter All wants to go to Seattle, like, hey,
we got an arena, we'll go.

Speaker 7 (01:51:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 11 (01:51:02):
So I think you know, they don't have to change
the colors if they go to Vegas, they stay right
on part with the with the Raiders.

Speaker 3 (01:51:09):
Yeah, I wouldn't think. I don't think Adam. Yeah, thank
you Brian for for bringing that up.

Speaker 1 (01:51:15):
First of all.

Speaker 3 (01:51:15):
Wemby's first big week of basketball the Spurs. It's it's
a fact. I mean, it's crazy to say out loud,
but the individual performance of one player can swing an
election on a matter like this, like and how much
easier is it to get stadium resolutions passed when teams
are winning Super Bowls, are being successful and asking for

(01:51:38):
money and uh and more and more money publicly. There's
a sort of course, certain ways to go about it,
but the bottom line is, generally your team is winning,
it's a lot easier to get stuff passed that didn't happen.
I think it was in Missouria measure or two for
the Chiefs didn't pass, but I think they eventually got
something done. Don't quote me on that, I think, but

(01:51:58):
I don't think the NBA would be, you know, pull
out all the stops to keep basketball in San Antonio.

Speaker 2 (01:52:04):
I mean, I'm sorry, Spurs. We know you love your Spurs,
but you think they wouldn't rather have that team in
Las Vegas or in Seattle because we know they're hungry
if things didn't come to pass. I'm not saying they
would force the force the Spurs out of San Antonio,
kind of like how Baseball basically forced Baseball out of Oakland.

(01:52:25):
They stripped down that team, they didn't improve the stadium,
they wanted to lose. They wanted to be quote unquote
forced out of Oakland and force the hands of the
fans and have all these measures not pass and all
they're major League Baseball long term is way happier to
be in Las Vegas than they are to be long

(01:52:45):
term in Oakland.

Speaker 3 (01:52:46):
I mean that that's just how it's going. I don't
think that's gonna happen in San Antonio. We'll see what
happens with this measure that they're trying to get passed.
But it helps when you got a guy like Victor
Wimenyama who is an absolute alien and he's averaging This
is what he's at averaging right now at this start
of the season, thirty one points, thirteen point eight rebounds,

(01:53:06):
and four point eight blocks per game, shooting thirty six
percent from three. Spurs have the best net rating in
basketball if you're not aware. With rating that's per per
one hundred possessions. Offense and defense basically added up best
in basketball right now, it's a very reliable metric to
tell you who the best teams in basketball are.

Speaker 5 (01:53:27):
Now.

Speaker 3 (01:53:27):
It's only four games the start of the season. Anything
could happen going forward, but right now the Spurs are
looking pretty good. And that's probably if the owners wanted
to keep the Spurs in San Antonio the way that
they would like it to go. Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety is the phone number Anthony

(01:53:47):
Icu on hold seven to one three two one two
five seven ninety. If you guys want to get in
after him one o'clock, we have Adam Clinton joining in.
We're with you until two o'clock. In you can get
in on the phone lines till then. At any point.

Speaker 2 (01:54:00):
It's seven one three two one two five seven ninety
twelve thirty four pm here on Sports Talk seven ninety

(01:54:21):
ros Viria with you phone lines open at seven one
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven ninety and tweets at sports RV.

Speaker 3 (01:54:32):
You can also follow there on Instagram at sports RV.
I would appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (01:54:38):
Uh just saw this. Uh congratulations to Kendrick lamar Is
good kid. Mad City album has been charting for thirteen
straight years on the Billboard Top two hundred Albums chart.
That's the longest charting wrap studio album of all time.

Speaker 5 (01:54:52):
Boo, I gotta I got you Matt Thomas here, Okay, sorry, Yeah,
that's what I tweeted.

Speaker 7 (01:54:59):
I said.

Speaker 3 (01:54:59):
It's kept on the chart for thirteen years thanks to
the loyal listening of one Matt Thomas. So congratulations to him.
That just came across my tweet line. It always makes
me laugh, all right, anyways, a lot of stuff to
get two sports wise here with you, folks. Adam Clinton's
gonna join us at one o'clock. He's been on time
the last two times. Can he make it three in
a row? Will Adam Clanton be on time three times
in a row. What do you think, Juntathan, he's gonna

(01:55:20):
be early.

Speaker 5 (01:55:20):
I'm going under okay, early, Okay, obviously I want to
say he's gonna be in the studio, okay, four minutes
before wow, Okay.

Speaker 3 (01:55:27):
I think he was up earlier today. Well, he was
posting the pictures up with him and with Mike Tyson.
I don't know if that was this morning or what.
So maybe he's up early outing about and he'll be
here coming up at one o'clock. In the meantime, it's
you guys and me and Jonathan.

Speaker 2 (01:55:41):
Y'all can get in. It's seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven ninety and Anthony in Deer Park has gotten in.
What's up, Anthony?

Speaker 1 (01:55:51):
Hey? What's up? Ross? Hey?

Speaker 8 (01:55:53):
So I wanted to give you a gun feeling, and
then I have a question for you. My good feeling
is that when the Texans play the Bills on Thursday
Night Football, they will be six and four.

Speaker 1 (01:56:04):
I think they'll win the next three games. My oh man,
I hope you're right over there.

Speaker 8 (01:56:10):
If they get I think if they get past Denver,
then it's very doable because then you have Tennessee and Jacksonville,
and Jacksonville's at home Tennessee not really worried about them
home War road. But my question for you is the
uh the Texans. The line opened up plus one and
a half Texans. It since moved a minus one and

(01:56:32):
a half Texans.

Speaker 7 (01:56:33):
Yes.

Speaker 8 (01:56:34):
Do you think do you think a guy like patser
Tan moves that three points or do you think it's
more so to do with money coming in?

Speaker 12 (01:56:41):
Uh?

Speaker 11 (01:56:42):
You know what?

Speaker 3 (01:56:42):
You You asked me that on Twitter, right, Anthony. I
meant to respond and I saw, but I forgot, So
that's my bad. I normally try to respond to all
of you on social media, so I appreciate you. Uh, yeah,
I don't. I don't think a cornerback is moving the
line that much.

Speaker 2 (01:56:58):
Corner I mean, normally a quarterback can move the line
like that's a three point swing. That's pretty big for
just a corner back. But I'm gonna say my thinking
is that it is public money.

Speaker 1 (01:57:10):
Normally.

Speaker 3 (01:57:10):
This is in general, Anthony, and I'm just speaking in generalities.
I don't know if this is the case when it
comes to the Houston Texans and the Broncos Generally early
week line movement comes from the public flooding in aside,
So that makes me think that the public is kind
of flooding in on the Texans. Will that mean that
there will be a bounce back the other way, we
don't know. But also Vegas didn't hold their line. For example,

(01:57:35):
last week it was the forty nine Ers were the favorite.
I'm sorry, we're the underdog, and a ton of money
was flooding in on the Niners. But Vegas held their line.
They're like, you know what, we got a good line,
and you saw that game on Sunday, it looked like
they were on the right side of it. The Texans
dominated that game at least by yards, gain, first downs
and all that stuff. So they held their line. This

(01:57:55):
in this instance, Vegas is moving their line. They're like,
all right, maybe we did miss something here. We're gonna
go the Texan side. So it's a fluid situation. It
doesn't mean a whole lot of It doesn't mean anything
on Sunday. They don't play the games on paper, they
play them on grass. But it is interesting to me,
and if I just had to guess with the early
week movement, that just means there's been a flood of

(01:58:15):
money on the Texans, and some people saying and the
bookmaker saying, Okay, maybe we're taking so much action. Maybe
it's it's sharp and public money, and we'll move the
line a little bit. So yeah, three point line move
is significant, and maybe you know half or a point
of that. It has to do with Patrick certain as well.

Speaker 8 (01:58:33):
Okay, and is there I'm sorry I haven't kept up
this week. Is there any word on Nico Collins playing
this weekend?

Speaker 3 (01:58:41):
I have not heard that either as far as an
update on whether or not he should be played and
whether or not he should play.

Speaker 8 (01:58:49):
Okay, Rob, I appreciate it, all.

Speaker 2 (01:58:51):
Right, appreciate you, Thank you, Anthony, and thank you for
getting it.

Speaker 3 (01:58:54):
Seven to one three two one two five seven ninety
is the phone number seven one three two one two
five seven ninety. It looks like the latest is that
he is trending towards playing on Sunday, according to Aaron
Wilson KPRC two, of course, also a partner here at
Sports Talk seven ninety Damiko Ryan saying they're assessing his
progress throughout the week before deciding his status against the Broncos.

Speaker 2 (01:59:18):
I mean, funny enough. That's one of the things we
were kind of saying to ourselves last week. It's like,
how are the how are the Texans favorite in this game?
With Nico Collins out, with Christian Kirk out, but he
had a lot of injuries. Of course, on the forty
nine er side, they did get banged up even during
the game, with a couple of guys going down, but
it was Xavier Hutchinson, Jalen Noel r Knowle and Jayden

(01:59:40):
Higgins Woody Marks.

Speaker 3 (01:59:41):
I mean, you're seeing Braxton Burrios out there. You're like, man,
Texans are down a couple of receivers.

Speaker 2 (01:59:45):
This is crazy.

Speaker 5 (01:59:46):
I have a question though, because yeah, you know, he
brought new Collins and it made me think of Joe Mixon.
So since the Texans looked like they still have it
together and they still can make get into the playoffs
either with the wild card, right, what do you do?

Speaker 1 (01:59:59):
You like, what do you do? Then when Mixing comes back?

Speaker 2 (02:00:03):
Like what, oh, Mixing is the number one, number one?

Speaker 1 (02:00:05):
So he was just come back.

Speaker 2 (02:00:06):
Yeah, he mu's come out. He's the big dog.

Speaker 3 (02:00:08):
You gotta load of meat now, And of course you
might Now I would say start of the season. It
would be like eighty percent Joe Mixon and twenty percent
everybody else. Maybe you make it like sixty seven for
two thirds Joe Mixon and one third everyone else. But
especially on first and second downs. He's got to be
your guy. He's your best guy, and he's gonna have
fresh legs if he's playing.

Speaker 2 (02:00:27):
I imagine he's gonna be ready to go. And you
see what you got there.

Speaker 3 (02:00:31):
Woody Marx has been fine, but it's not like Woody
Marx has been some kind of revelation. Nick Chubb has
been okay, but it's not like he has just been
you know, He's shown flashes here and there, but hasn't
been consistent. Joe Mixon definitely becomes your number one guy.
I think when he comes back, if if that's gonna happen,
I mean, we still have got no timetable on it.
We still don't know at what point he's gonna be back,

(02:00:53):
if at all. Apparently he was at the game against
the forty nine ers on Sunday, but that's that. There's
been the rumors of what it was at a botch surgery?

Speaker 2 (02:01:03):
Was it?

Speaker 11 (02:01:04):
This?

Speaker 9 (02:01:04):
Was it?

Speaker 7 (02:01:04):
Dad?

Speaker 1 (02:01:05):
Who knows?

Speaker 2 (02:01:06):
I don't know what's going on. Because even now since July,
since its yeah, basically, I mean we're into we're getting
into November here we.

Speaker 1 (02:01:14):
Talk about fromber and but makes it at the same time,
and that's just nice.

Speaker 2 (02:01:17):
And the weirdest thing is they're just shrouding this whole
thing in mystery.

Speaker 3 (02:01:20):
I mean, is it that embarrassing of a story like,
I don't know, he was at a he was at
a in Saint Lucia at Airbnb and he slipped and
fell and then the hot tub or something like what happened.
And then he lets some guy in a van do
the surgery on his foot and he got botched, like,
I don't know what's going on. I don't know what's
going on. It's weird. It's a weird story. You don't

(02:01:41):
normally have something like this where there was an off
seat you would just say, hey, hey, guy, he was
doing offseason workouts with whoever and he got hurt and
he's probably gonna miss a year.

Speaker 2 (02:01:51):
He got a lead.

Speaker 3 (02:01:51):
I mean, I'm trying to think of foot injuries that
keep you out for the year. Ankle surgery, no, ankle, achilles, yes,
Lee frank injury, yes, I mean something like that. Those
the only two I can think of, yeah, exactly the
same thing, Like it had to be one of those
and if it's Achilles, that's what I'm saying. Running running
backs don't come back long long And you've had Cam

(02:02:13):
Akers show flashes after an Achilles. You've had guys like
Deontay Foreman and others show some flashes JK. Dobbins after
after Achilles injuries. But for the most part, you're you're
you're not the same long term after an Achilles injury
for running backs specific Like even camp Scataboo, this injury
right now, I bet who I bet that was he

(02:02:35):
discilcated ankle. But you can come back from that, you can,
But doesn't dislocated ankle mean like every like all your
ligaments are ripped up.

Speaker 2 (02:02:42):
In the ankles.

Speaker 3 (02:02:43):
So honestly, all right, yeah, and he was already I mean, look,
he was scoring a lot of touchdowns and he's fun
to watch. He's he's I mean, he's a friggin battering
ram who was the guy was calling Matt Thomas juggernaut.

Speaker 1 (02:02:54):
That was rude.

Speaker 3 (02:02:55):
But Cam Scataboo is like Juggernaut, Like he's busting through
doors if you let him get ahead of steam He's
not very quick, not the fastest, but he's tough to
take down. So I'll be interesting to see what with
Camp's cateboo is and these these injuries and these running backs.

Speaker 2 (02:03:10):
Man, it's it's it's crazy.

Speaker 3 (02:03:12):
It's tough, all right, quick break here on the Matt
Thomas Show with Ross. Without Matt Thomas, he is out
traveling with the Rockets. Uh, I will have Adam Clinton
joining and hanging out at one o'clock. We want to
talk about first topic of business with Adam Clinton. Victor
womben Yama's hot start to the NBA season. Okay, maybe not,
but well, I mean he hates the Dodgers like I do.

(02:03:32):
Watching show Heo Tani and Victor womben Yama for this
Purson the and the Dodgers. Ugh, it's disgusting, but we
have to watch it. But the Rockets have won a game.
The Texans are in action this weekend against the Broncos.
How is that gonna go a lot of stuff to
get to seven one three two one two five seven
ninety the phone number seven one three two one two
five seven ninety. Welcome back to The Man Thomas Show

(02:04:04):
with Ross on Sports Talk seven ninety. Sometimes I gotta
remember what show I'm on, Johnathan, don't shake your head.
I used to do the I used to do the
Nightcap Sports RV show, Rockets Rap Astros tenth inning and
this show.

Speaker 2 (02:04:17):
So I was those are my busier times. Now it's
just this end well, Rockets wraps and of course Astros
on Deck Slash ten innings as well. Appreciate all you
calling last night with the Rockets win over the Brooklyn
Nets one thirty seven to one oh nine. Mentioned okay,

(02:04:38):
it was almost okay, it did feel like a preseason game.
They got them by a little bit, a little bit,
but it's the Brooklands. But hey, it was nice.

Speaker 3 (02:04:45):
It's a soft landing spot for them, especially after two
tough games to start the season. I mean, on the
road going to double overtime against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Speaker 2 (02:04:54):
That was not fun losing that game. Then you had
the I mean, it was just.

Speaker 3 (02:05:03):
It felt like, as you say, one of those games,
they were missing bunnies, they were missing putbacks, they were
missing shots they would normally make. It wasn't a whole
lot of bad shots. Selection then you had Cad Cunningham
playing very well on the other side, he had almost
a triple double, and I would say one of those games.
But when you pile that up, you pair it together

(02:05:25):
with that first game, and you're zero to two and
you haven't won a game.

Speaker 2 (02:05:28):
Didn't feel great. So you get the easy mark in
the Brooklyn Nets last night, and even then, I mean
they were sixteen and a half point favorites. Still in
the back of my mind, I.

Speaker 1 (02:05:37):
Was like, Eh, Michael Porter Junior's pretty good.

Speaker 3 (02:05:39):
Terrace man Cam Thomas, like they can put some points
on the board the Brooklyn Nets. Their defense is terrible,
as evidenced by the Rockets getting one hundred and thirty
seven points in that game. But it was nice a
couple on a couple of fronts. Tarry Easton bouncing back
eight of twelve from the field twenty two points. He
also had five rebounds, five assists. Wasn't the Angel Reachs

(02:05:59):
shoe sho I don't know she was. He was wearing
the pink mee bounds Reebok. I didn't even I'm gonna
be honest with you, did you, Jonathan, Did you know
Reebok is still making shoes?

Speaker 1 (02:06:09):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (02:06:09):
I thought they got bought out by somebody, And I
didn't know, it's not really big, and they have actually
pretty good shoes as well.

Speaker 3 (02:06:15):
Okay, all right, you know what, I'm shout out to Reebok.
They had they have the Angel Reese ones. And I remember,
didn't they have a big deal with Shaquille O'Neal or
something like that back in the day, and he he
had those like earthquake looking what. Yeah, I know that's
before your time, don't worry about it.

Speaker 1 (02:06:32):
Uh yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:06:32):
So so Reebok apparently is still making shoes and whatever
shoes Tarry Easton was wearing, which it was the Angel
Reese ones. He's got to keep those on cause he
was awesome and and reports of his demise.

Speaker 1 (02:06:44):
Oh he should have taken that deal. Oh he bet
on himself. He's losing.

Speaker 3 (02:06:48):
Well, he bet on himself and he was winning last night.
And of course again we do. It's almost like you
have to qualify it every time you say it.

Speaker 1 (02:06:54):
It was an Nets. It was the Nets.

Speaker 3 (02:06:56):
But five to seven from three, the three point line
is the same no matter who you're playing in the
NBA just might be a little bit more open here
and there. But that was nice to see from Tar Easton.
And it's been an interesting three games for Reed Shepherd.
First game against the Oklahoma City Thunder three of eleven,
but he was aggressive. He was putting up a lot

(02:07:16):
of shots against a very tough defense. They weren't falling
three of eleven in the second game, also not what
you wanted to see. The three point shot has been
there so far on the season, he is eight of eighteen.
That's good for forty five and a half percent. Now,
of course, well I don't expect him.

Speaker 1 (02:07:34):
To shoot forty five and a half percent from three.

Speaker 2 (02:07:36):
But if he wants to, that's okay. He's gonna be
among the leaders in the entire NBA. I just don't
think that's probably gonna hold up based on the history
of what we have of him. But that'd be nice.

Speaker 3 (02:07:47):
Three point shot looks, good, looks, smooth, find some open looks.
You're not gonna ask Reed Shepherd to set the world
on fire. If he can go out there, give you
twenty five to thirty minutes, get to the basket a
couple of times, knock down a couple of three, and
last night he had eight assists and only two turnovers.
That that's what you'll take from Reed Shepherd. So a

(02:08:08):
step in the right direction for a young player who
who the Rockets put a lot of stock in and
they need him quite frankly with Fred van Vliet, I mean,
on the postgame show on Friday against Detroit, we were
taking some calls. I think these were the words used
to describe the Rockets offense. Clunky, disjointed, sloppy. Those were
the words used by callers and myself like it just

(02:08:30):
it's not not a fluid operation with when you don't
have your your your floor general and Fred van Vliet
and he ain't gonna come back at least until maybe
you're probably talking like the NBA literally NBA Finals or
something like that, that would be eight months from now,
and generally at least it's like an eight to nine
month recovery.

Speaker 2 (02:08:51):
So you're gonna have to figure something out. You're gonna
have to dance with the guys who brung you.

Speaker 1 (02:08:56):
I mean.

Speaker 3 (02:08:56):
Thompson also had eight assists and no turnovers. That was
great to see last night as well. Seven seven ninety
is the phone number Richard in League City. Want to
talk some Rockets ball?

Speaker 1 (02:09:07):
What's up? Richard? Hey?

Speaker 13 (02:09:09):
Ross h do you know what the definition? Do you
know what a slump buster is yes, I do.

Speaker 3 (02:09:15):
Know what a slump buster is. So do you want
to explain it to the folks or do you want
to explain it?

Speaker 13 (02:09:22):
All right, Well it's I've been married for twenty years
this one that.

Speaker 11 (02:09:30):
There you go.

Speaker 7 (02:09:30):
So the Brooklyn that slump buster for the Rockets. Yes.

Speaker 13 (02:09:34):
Something that I saw last night about the offense that
are really like and especially Tarry Easton, is like you
were talking about the offense being plunky. I mean, we
know we've got all the players we need. We know
we have a championship caliber talent level on the team
and we saw a lot of it in the preseason,

(02:09:54):
but it hasn't found its flow. And what I saw
last night, and I think Tari was the expression of
it was it. It felt like, I mean Tari was
played more with him himself than I've ever seen him play.
It was almost like the guy. What I love about
the guy is he can play at eleven, you know,
in the spinal tep sense, and he almost always does.

(02:10:14):
It's like he finds his maximum and then he goes faster.
The last night it felt like he was he was
hovering in the seven to eight like there was energy,
but it wasn't out of control and I just felt
like that was one with the whole team. And I
got to give kudos to Meyudoka for putting Akobe in

(02:10:35):
the starting lineup because he really seemed to be an
important piece to helping the other pieces play together a
little more fluidly.

Speaker 3 (02:10:46):
Yeah, it was good to see Gil a little more
ball handling. Thank you, Richard, I appreciate you getting in
and also h coach saying before the game he wanted
to take some of the defensive load as far as
perimeter defending off of Aman Thompson, and I mentioned the
guys that you have, I mean all perimeter scorers, Terrence Man,
Cam Thomas, and Michael Porter Junior at that Brooklyn Nets.
It's gonna be a matchup thing. He's not gonna play

(02:11:08):
the same starting lineup every night. You're gonna have to
mix and match. You're gonna have to figure some things
out and just kind of as you go along, because
they put a lot of stock, a lot of eggs
were in the Fred van Vliet basket as your floor
general and somebody who can defend guards. And I not
that he's a lockdown perimeter guy or anything like that,
but generally pretty solid and unless he's against like the

(02:11:30):
best perimeter scores in the league, which Fred van Vliet
can struggle against due to lack of size. But he's
gonna get steals. He's gonna be smart positionally, he's gonna
play passing lanes. He's gonna help you out defensively, and
you're missing some of that when he's not on the floor.

Speaker 2 (02:11:45):
So that was good to see.

Speaker 3 (02:11:46):
Yes, a mix up of the starting lineup going with
josh Okogi there. We'll see what happens if and when
Dori and Finney Smith gets ready to come back in
the lineup for the Rockets, and it's just going to
be the guys kind of figuring each other out. I
saw a lot of Kevin Durant as initiating of offense
with al Prin Shangoon as the screener. I think that
is something that they can build chemistry on and bear

(02:12:09):
a lot of fruit because a lot of times the
Rockets are being trapped because they don't have elite ball handling.
Ben Thompson good ball handler, not elite. Kevin Durant, Alp
Prinching Goon good ball handlers, but not elite. Those guys
can be prone to turnovers here and there, so they
are getting trapped a lot. They are getting blitzed on
these pick and rolls, and it's been kind of effective

(02:12:30):
against him. That's something they're gonna have to figure out.
And he made Doka was talking about that, I think
in the postgame the last couple of games, and maybe
even pregame yesterday, like, yeah, guys are gonna get up
on Kevin Durant and others and they're gonna dare them
to blow by them with the dribbling, because you have
these guys who sometimes you know, dribbling the ball at
their feet losing the handle. How often can you recall

(02:12:51):
seeing like alprin Shangoon going for a dribble and he
just dribbles it off his foot or he loses it
on a spin move or something like that. A lot
of times he can pull it off, and he's very
skilled for a six foot eleven guy. But turned the
ball over three times last night. It feels like three
to four turnovers. It can be about the norm for
he or Kevin duran or r Men Thompson as well,

(02:13:12):
and that's something they are gonna have to get better
at and improve upon. I have full confidence they can
do it. They've got a great coaching staff and most importantly,
great players. They're gonna figure this thing out. It's just
got to get a little bit more consistent. And it's
helpful to have the first couple of tough games and
then a knife soft landing spot at home against the

(02:13:35):
Brooklyn Nets, who are just playing ola defense all night.
So good to help yourself get in rhythm with a
game like you got last night. Next in action tomorrow
against the Toronto Raptors. That'll be a five to thirty
start on Sports Talk seven ninety. You'll have Adam and
one of the Adams for the pregame there. I'll be
with you for the Rockets trap call in show tomorrow,

(02:13:56):
five thirty tip off. Rockets taking on the Toronto Raptors.
All right, quick break here three hours. I don't know
where they went. If show's been flying by. I appreciate y'all, folks.
A lot of that has to do with you guys
calling in and interacting. Can't do it without you, so
appreciate y'all. Adam Clant is coming up in the fourth hour.
You can still get in if you want a lot
of stuff to talk about. Seven one three two one
two five seven ninety. The phone number seven one three

(02:14:18):
two one two five seven ninety is the Matt Thomas
Show with Ross.

Speaker 1 (02:14:29):
Oh my god, folks, three times in a row.

Speaker 2 (02:14:33):
Who is this man?

Speaker 1 (02:14:36):
Adam Clanton here on time? It's a technicality, you know, Yeah,
that's true. I got you guys broke late. Look at
us starting the show at one oh three thirty. Where's
Gordy to reprimand you? I don't know, but it's funny.
The part is he's the worst offender when he's on here.
But anyways, sh hey, leave Malone. He's gone through it.
His uh his LSU Tigers had to fire another head

(02:14:58):
coach that didn't get it done.

Speaker 2 (02:14:59):
Hey, you never hear me say a bad word, at
least publicly about Gordy. I mean, he did the morning show.
He hung out with me for an hour. He's doing
locked on SEC.

Speaker 3 (02:15:06):
He's a PD about six sports stations in Texas now
at this point.

Speaker 1 (02:15:10):
He rescued me from the depths of unemployment.

Speaker 2 (02:15:12):
He's very busy. He's very busy.

Speaker 3 (02:15:14):
So appreciate Chris Cordy hanging out earlier in the show.
Adam Clinton, appreciate you hanging out now.

Speaker 1 (02:15:18):
I was telling you about this before he got in
the air. I'm a little tired today. Yeah, you look
like hell I do. I feel like it.

Speaker 2 (02:15:24):
That's a classic Matt Thomas line. Uh yeah, no, you
look fine.

Speaker 1 (02:15:28):
It's fine. You're doing all right. Once the bright lights
come on in here, it's gonna suck. No, I hate
those bright lights. Are they blinded me? Dude? I can't
do it. It gives me a headache. Tried doing it
for four hours? No, thank you, no, thank you. Well,
so the show is only three hours on TV. Yes,
but sometimes wex will turn him on just to have
them on.

Speaker 2 (02:15:46):
Well, you got to get a routine, man.

Speaker 1 (02:15:48):
Yeah. But then other days I'll turn them on. He'll
be like, why are you doing that? I'm earning them off.
Turn them off.

Speaker 2 (02:15:52):
It's like, dude, they're too bright.

Speaker 1 (02:15:55):
That's one of my favorite I know, I know. All right.

Speaker 3 (02:15:57):
So Adam Clinton hanging out for hour number for the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross Jonathan Allen.

Speaker 2 (02:16:02):
Still here.

Speaker 3 (02:16:02):
I am here at Ross via Matt Thomas is traveling
with your Houston Rockets. Phone lines are open at seven
one three two one two five seven ninety. I mean
you had a sports buffet last night. It was Monday
night football. Of course, it was an eighteen inning World
Series game. Rockets. I know you and I of course
big Rockets fans. Adam, we're gonna get into that win

(02:16:24):
that they got last night and what impressed you? But
I was talking about this earlier in the show. I
don't know how much you caught of it, if any,
And uh, I know we have our fun with the
Victor Wimbinyama stuff too, But the dude is a freaking alien.
And this applies to show hal Tawani as well, Like
we are witnessing kind of stuff that we have never
seen before in sports, and unfortunately for us here in Houston,

(02:16:49):
it's wombin Yama wearing spurs silver and black and show
a human being got on base nine times in a
World Series game, tying the all time Major League record
double homer double?

Speaker 1 (02:17:06):
What was the guy's name?

Speaker 7 (02:17:07):
Again?

Speaker 1 (02:17:08):
For which guy from nineteen? I can't remember?

Speaker 2 (02:17:11):
It was Hank Stram or Whatno.

Speaker 1 (02:17:13):
How come you guys don't do the thing you used
to do all the time with what we what's his name?
The old guy who had this record that is now
tied with show? Hey, what was his name? Oh?

Speaker 3 (02:17:23):
You mean go into the Civil war thing. Yes, I
mean we did that for years. Sometimes the bits go
up and down bring it back.

Speaker 5 (02:17:29):
I know.

Speaker 1 (02:17:29):
Sometimes you feel like you gotta you do a bit
for like ten years you've running into the ground. Well,
the best and no, no offense to Jonathan. The best
was when Trey was producing and he would they always
die but you know the people that were talking about
these imaginary civil war fixtures, But with him it was
like it was always untimely violent.

Speaker 2 (02:17:51):
No, no, would always be shot in the face.

Speaker 1 (02:17:53):
That was his bit. And then he got shot in
the face. I can't do my tray impression on the
fired Why. I don't know. I just feel like I will.
I'm not letting you get in. You're a troublemaker now, Baton,
It's not true. I don't want that Baton ever since
I self neutered on social media.

Speaker 2 (02:18:10):
With Stan Hack, Max Care, Stan Hack, and Johnny Bennett.

Speaker 3 (02:18:15):
Yeah, so, like, what is it like for I? I
know you, because I mean we know you, Adam Clinton.
You hate the Dodgers, I hate everything. You hate the Spurs, you.

Speaker 2 (02:18:23):
Hate everything, you hate mayonnaise, you hate Tara Cream, and
you hate Victor Wimenyama. Do you, well, how do you feel?

Speaker 7 (02:18:29):
What is it like?

Speaker 2 (02:18:30):
Because even for me, like I'm rooting for the Blue Jays,
I want the go go Americas all the way, George
Springs North America.

Speaker 3 (02:18:39):
Let's go Blue Jays. The Dodgers are the evil Empire.
But I mean, it's weird, my god. But one of
the reasons I love sports. One of the reasons that
I love sports in general, this is anything and people like,
I'll watch Olympics, I'll watch whatever, And people are like, well,
you don't watch cricket.

Speaker 2 (02:18:52):
Why I don't know the rules of cricket. I'll try
to watch it.

Speaker 3 (02:18:55):
I think this far as like hand eye coordination, like
the craziest stuff that humans are cap generally happens within
sports athletically. And I always appreciate greatness and stuff we've
never seen before. We've never seen anything like shoey Otani before. Well,
but he plays freaking for the freaking lle Dodgers. Well, yeah,
that's the worst. It doesn't mean great makes Dodgers fans happy,

(02:19:18):
and that makes me sad.

Speaker 1 (02:19:19):
It's weird because there was a chapter of his career
that was not in LA Yeah, when he was an
angel chapter it was perfect because he could put up
all these mad numbers and they would never do anything.

Speaker 2 (02:19:32):
It would be a three game series against the Angels.
See Astros would at least take two out of three.
He'd hit like three bombs and throw six shut out
and you're like, man, that was cool and it was
not a threat.

Speaker 1 (02:19:41):
The craziest thing ever. And anytime you're like, we always
talk about like who's the worst commissioner in sports? Who's
the worst? Is who's the worst? That? Yeah, Well, like
I feel like, if you're gonna go down the list
of worst owners in sports, you would never think, oh gosh,
I'm drawing a blank on the Angel's owner Hardy Moreno.
You would never.

Speaker 2 (02:20:00):
He'd never be at the top of the way. But
you're right, he's not great.

Speaker 3 (02:20:04):
But you you say, oh, Jerry Jones or you Moreno
spends money, but he spends money stupid.

Speaker 1 (02:20:09):
He had Mike Trout and Showy in their prime and one.

Speaker 2 (02:20:13):
Crap, they didn't even make the playoffs, I don't think.

Speaker 1 (02:20:15):
And then he goes and he said he spends money,
but he gives it to Anthony Rendon and immediately Anthony
Rindon dies. And he did the same thing with Josh Hamilton, Albert.

Speaker 2 (02:20:25):
Poohols, Mike Trout's been heard a bunch over there.

Speaker 1 (02:20:27):
I mean it's insane, So it's I don't even necessarily
blame him because a lot of it's dumb luck, and
I don't blame him for not I mean show Hay
was never going to stay there when he could just
go up the freeway a couple of hours, because that's
how long it would take to drive from Anaheim to
LA Because I've done it in the middle.

Speaker 2 (02:20:42):
Of a week day at two o'clock. It took me
two and a half hours just put on a podcast.

Speaker 1 (02:20:47):
Oh it was brutal, but yeah, well I also stopped
in Compton and Englewood on the lot along the way.

Speaker 2 (02:20:53):
Well because you know Crenshaw Boulevard. Yeah, okay, I had
to go to these places that I've heard about in
Hangout with Doe Boy. Yeah, you know, rick A Blim
got shots a Blend flying by, and I said, ice.

Speaker 1 (02:21:06):
Cubes of pimp on it. It was awesome. That sounds amazing,
sow the forum. This was way before SOFI was even
a thought. This is twenty seventeen. But yeah, going back
to the original point, I have mixed emotions because I
am a huge show hey fan, I really am. Yeah,
and I and even though he's a Dodger, I'm still
a huge fan. But it does suck.

Speaker 2 (02:21:24):
And last night I even texted Wex this, it sucks
to see the Blue Jays get out of the bases
loaded jam and I was.

Speaker 1 (02:21:33):
Like, what are you doing? Because he walked. He intentionally walked,
walked to get to Freeman, and I go, I will
pitch to Mookie Betts ten at ten times before I
pitched to Freddy Freeman.

Speaker 2 (02:21:46):
Well, who hit the walk off last night? Freddy Freeman.

Speaker 1 (02:21:49):
So I just like I think Mookie Betts.

Speaker 3 (02:21:51):
It was the matchup versus the pitcher. Some I imagine
there were there were some reasons. It was like the
end of that eighteenth inning game with the with the
the Astros and the Mariners. Everybody's just going up there, hacking, trying.
They turned one run scored in that game. They turned
it live home run derby. Everybody was just trying to
hit a home run.

Speaker 1 (02:22:08):
These two teams had combined for ten runs, the Astros.
That's what hurts. If you're a Mariners fan again, head
exactly you got you had one run scored between those
two teams and eighteen innings. That was so satisfying. It's
different with Victor winmbin Yama. It's very different. And the
first reason, first and foremost is that this guy at

(02:22:32):
the draft, it's uh, it's revealed that the Rockets will
pick fourth, they did not get the number one pick,
and this shrimp little weenie starts pumping his fist. As
far as I'm concerned, you're dead to me. You are
public at me. It's on site with you.

Speaker 2 (02:22:50):
Oh really, And by the way, I don't know if
you reach me, I would kick his ass in five seconds.
There's no chance. He's seven foot four and one hundred pounds.
I mean, I split them over my leg. Wouldn't even
have to pack you once he's more athletic. Okay, I've
move away from him minus about six hundred. He's gonna
got the back.

Speaker 1 (02:23:07):
Dude.

Speaker 2 (02:23:08):
He's been hanging out with like shoolin Monks.

Speaker 1 (02:23:10):
Well, I hung out with Dream.

Speaker 2 (02:23:12):
He's been doing like Brazilian jiu jitsu. Dream likes me better.
Just lift kettlebells.

Speaker 1 (02:23:15):
It's not the same.

Speaker 2 (02:23:16):
I haven't lifted those in ten years. Okay, that's how
confident I am. But I'm taking Wimby minus the minus
the money.

Speaker 1 (02:23:24):
Well, you're right, I mean it has been absolutely spectacular
to watch Wimby run rough shot over the Mavericks and
the Pelicans and the Nets and the Raptors.

Speaker 2 (02:23:32):
Those are four awful basketball teams.

Speaker 4 (02:23:35):
Here we go.

Speaker 3 (02:23:35):
It's true, and you know it. I heard you talking
about net ratings. Yes, number one in net rating.

Speaker 1 (02:23:40):
Which one of those teams is good? I'll wait.

Speaker 3 (02:23:42):
The Mavericks might end up being good. Okay, they're one
and three right now. It's not the same as being good.

Speaker 1 (02:23:48):
I'm not crowning them.

Speaker 2 (02:23:49):
Kyrie Hervey in the building that night. I have not
declared them NBA champions said he was the greatest player
you've ever seen. Four and they had their number. This
is These are the facts.

Speaker 3 (02:24:00):
They're undefeated, and they're number one in net rating and
basketball click scheduling eighth or something.

Speaker 1 (02:24:05):
Wow. This They've got a real barn burner against the
Miami Heat before they travel to Phoenix and then take
on the Lakers, Sands, Lebron and Luca. Oh look, November seven,
they're gonna get their asses kicked as the Rockets come
to town. All right, Well, you heard it here first,
and you better Hoday win that night, because I will
come after you. That can you come after him?

Speaker 2 (02:24:27):
You can come after me.

Speaker 1 (02:24:28):
You what, the guy's a freaking alien. You're not even
calling in the studio.

Speaker 3 (02:24:33):
If you murder you, He's an absolute freak of nature.
I mean, if you want to bury you, that you can.
He is a freak of nature.

Speaker 1 (02:24:42):
When they're taking on the junior high B teams of
the NBA, all right, come on, man, you have to
admit he's putting up huge numbers against a bunch of
seventh graders.

Speaker 2 (02:24:51):
Anthony Davis is not a seventh grader. I'm sorry.

Speaker 1 (02:24:54):
I'll even give you a defensive Player of the Year
when he's healthy.

Speaker 2 (02:24:58):
He was healthy, he was on the floor, and he
made him look like his little cousin in the driveway.
I'm scared more than anything. I'm scared. Would you say
the same thing if he did this against Rudy Gobert.
I can go to those multiple time defensive player of
the Year as well, Exactly. I consider those guys the
same dude. Defensively, Okay, they're long, Well, who's the best
defensive center in the game? Then to you, probably honest

(02:25:21):
y honis well, he's not a center. I mean he's
got he doesn't really have a so far. I mean
Victor Women, Yama, he's he's looking pretty dangerous.

Speaker 1 (02:25:29):
I'm just saying he's fine. I know he's fine. All right,
It's fine, all right. I had my Philip Matt Thomas
last night.

Speaker 3 (02:25:35):
All the Mattis were take a quick break here on
the Matt Thomas Show without Matt Thomas, with Ross, with
Adam Clanton.

Speaker 2 (02:25:41):
I appreciate him hanging out early on. He'll be on
the eight team coming up at two o'clock.

Speaker 3 (02:25:45):
You guys can get in seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven ninety with you until two o'clock here on
your home for your rockets and.

Speaker 2 (02:25:55):
Your home for your ass SHOs. You know the teams
that win championships in this town here in Sports Talk
seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (02:26:11):
That's right, folks, we've been teasing it for three hours.
What's this copyrighted music you're playing? So we ever talked about?
I don't that anymore? Suck it? Yeah, well I get
first TV, pretty boys, I'm not pretty today, all right?

Speaker 2 (02:26:24):
We h this is the this is the NFL. Rewind music.
Okay of course I always remember. Jonathan knows this. When
Matt's out, I always remember to do every single segment
that we have planned. I never forget. I'm super organized.
Is Jonathan like be your baby for years? He has
to make sure you tell all your stuff?

Speaker 1 (02:26:41):
Yes, he is.

Speaker 2 (02:26:42):
He is very much because I'm like twice his age.
So I feel bad, but it doesn't.

Speaker 1 (02:26:48):
When you have a d D like we do.

Speaker 3 (02:26:50):
That's the organized one, and I'm the one that just
sits here and makes fun of him for four hours.

Speaker 1 (02:26:54):
That's that's what we do. That's it goes out. Everything's
messed out. And for better than a decade, it's been
a great formula. What's the problem, It's fix it. We're
still here. We're still here somehow, folks. That's why I'm
always resistant to change because I know the way I
do things is the best way. Okay, so why would
I want to do it your way? Hmm.

Speaker 2 (02:27:13):
Interesting.

Speaker 1 (02:27:14):
So that's the attitude you should take into every scenario
in life. I'm not resistant, especially in marriage. It works
really well in marriage being resistant to change just always
being right too. In general? All right, good letters. When
you're married to who I'm married to?

Speaker 2 (02:27:28):
All right?

Speaker 1 (02:27:29):
Really not a strong personality at all. I'm gonna step
back out on that one. Also not very Italian. It's amazing.
I didn't get give the last night in my sleep
stab wounds on your neck. All right, we're talking about
the NFL. Let's see, of course we know the Texans.
How about this, let's talk about this quickly. Your thoughts,
mister Clinton. The line opening up with the Broncos being

(02:27:52):
favored by one and a half, but now it has
moved to the other side. Texans now one and a
half point favorite. It's at home this weekend against the
differ Broncos. Well, and I heard you.

Speaker 2 (02:28:05):
Guys talking about this earlier. I was like, thank you
for listening. Why, thank you're welcome. Why are they favored
other than that they're at home?

Speaker 1 (02:28:13):
And it's basically it'd be a pick them if they
are on a neutral's field. I'm saying. It was the
same way. I was like, why, And they had defensive
injuries and then they kept suffering them every down during again,
more and more happened, But I don't see that happening
with the Broncos. And oh, by the way, this is gross.

(02:28:34):
Youre getting ready for this. We're talking about this yesterday,
because you know, wex he's a numbers guy. I don't
know if you've heard he likes numbers. He likes spreadsheets
and numbers. Very acidic. What what was the line from
Wolf of Wall Street? I don't know, it's very acidic.
These numbers. He's asking him how many times a day
he does a certain thing.

Speaker 2 (02:28:50):
Okay, So anyway, those are rookie numbers in this racket.

Speaker 1 (02:28:53):
Rookie numbers in this racket. So he's like talking about
how the Texans have gone up again, the team that
is number two overall in sacks, number three overall in sacks,
and I think number five overall in sacks. Pressure, well
that came into it, but just just from the standpoint
of sacks, they were zero and three against those teams,

(02:29:14):
the Rams, the Bucks, I can't remember what the other one,
but point of all that it was the next one
in line.

Speaker 2 (02:29:20):
The Rams is second to the Broncos, who have thirty
six sacks I believe. Is that is that accurate?

Speaker 1 (02:29:29):
I think the Seahawks was the other team. Yes, so,
I think they played three of their first handful of
games were teams in the top ten of sacks this year,
and the Broncos leaped frog the next closest one by ten.
Is the point I'm getting at. When CJ.

Speaker 2 (02:29:46):
Stroud can have time to do his thing, he shreds absolutely.
When he doesn't, he don't score against the Titans for
three quarters. Also, I would say the protection has been
a lot better at home, communication issues, and they just
haven't had the chemistry.

Speaker 3 (02:30:03):
They've been shuffling guys around. I mean guys going down
and getting hurting, all that type of stuff. It's easier
to communicate at home in the first in the first place.
And have you been to Mile High before for a game?
I have, not the first ever Texans field, but not
Mile High? Right, you didn't it snow on you?

Speaker 11 (02:30:17):
No?

Speaker 1 (02:30:17):
Okay, the first ever Texans game at Mile High? Is
it a metaphor No? Now, they don't do that there.
They do a different substance. It's great. They probablyknew that
there too, so do that. But I wasn't doing a
lot of that going there. So anyway, like the first
ever Texans game at Mile High, I was there wasn't

(02:30:38):
a pretty afternoon. That's a tough place to play the
altitude obviously, but then the steps.

Speaker 2 (02:30:43):
Did you get winded going up the steps or anything.
I was on the field for that game and then
hung out with Bob Allen then returns for six yards.

Speaker 1 (02:30:50):
That was me. Okay, nice, I was carrying my parabolic
mic at the time. That's cool.

Speaker 2 (02:30:56):
It was just evenna run over by anybody.

Speaker 1 (02:30:57):
Did you you know what happened there? I didn't dress appropriate.

Speaker 7 (02:31:00):
Hmmm.

Speaker 1 (02:31:01):
It was a very la moment where it was well,
the sun was out, it was a nice temperature, and
then the sun went down and it immediately got freezing.

Speaker 2 (02:31:08):
Yes, and I was wearing a long sleeved T shirt
and jeans. Ooh, so the probably.

Speaker 1 (02:31:13):
Entire second half I wanted to kill You're running in place, Yeah,
I get the frostbite.

Speaker 2 (02:31:17):
It was very very cold, and your feet are still
black to this day. It's a give a stake, all right,
it happens. I was broken college, all right. Well elsewhere
in the NFL. How about last night the Kansas City
Chiefs taking care of business against the Washington Commanders and
Marcus Mariota twenty eight to seven win. But Travis Kelcey
tying Priest Holmes. It's the all time touchdowns leader in

(02:31:41):
the Kansas City Chiefs history. Now I heard that and
I was like, didn't Priest Holmes only have like two
three good seasons with the Chiefs.

Speaker 1 (02:31:51):
I didn't. Really. He had twenty seven rushing touchdowns in
two thousand and three. Priest Holmes, he was on my
fancy team that year. Well, I imagine you won the
champions I did, or you should have.

Speaker 3 (02:32:01):
I destroyed twenty one to touchdowns the year before that
was my first year only in six years, I mean
the last year he was barely even there. He had it,
did not play injured. And in parentheses it says spine.
That doesn't sound fun for Priest Holmes.

Speaker 2 (02:32:19):
But really, basically six years, three of them were half
of half years or less. He was the all time
touchdown leader in Kansas City Chiefs. I mean, we're talking
about a storied franchise with it on. Don't forget they've
had several like amazing running back Christian mccoya, Christian Nakoya,

(02:32:41):
the ninety year nightmare, not a Moby. Yeah, okay, that
was the Texan. He didn't do much of anything. Yes,
Larry Johnson was good there, Larry Johnson, and they had
oh geez, Jamal Charles Longhorn legend.

Speaker 1 (02:32:54):
Who's the crazy one though, was that Larry Johnson?

Speaker 2 (02:32:56):
He was a little crazy.

Speaker 1 (02:32:57):
Who's the one that's crazy now? I think it was.

Speaker 2 (02:32:59):
I think Larry John's like the aliens are listening around.
He's a flat earther. Yeah, come on, guys, fly on
one plane. He's basically come on. He's basically a football
version of Carl Everett. Yes, he said dinosaurs weren't really.
Disars weren't real. I mean, come on, where these giant
fossils were finding? You think they just kind of made
those up. We didn't land on the moon. No, all

(02:33:20):
that stuff didn't do any of that.

Speaker 1 (02:33:22):
JFK. I could that's different.

Speaker 2 (02:33:24):
Oh he's dead.

Speaker 1 (02:33:25):
Well, yeah, that's not.

Speaker 2 (02:33:27):
This dispute, Jacko? Kids who did jack? You can confirm
too soon? Figure headed me?

Speaker 1 (02:33:33):
That meme is incredible? Which one you haven't seen?

Speaker 3 (02:33:36):
A jackular I haven't, no, kay, I am not taking
in the thousands of JFK memes and anytime anything happens with.

Speaker 1 (02:33:45):
JFK had sent to me that this one is in
your wheelhouse.

Speaker 2 (02:33:48):
You sick o.

Speaker 1 (02:33:49):
When I showed to you during the break, you're gonna
be so happy I showed it. Okay, we'll see we're
not doing it now. Well we're gonna take that. But
no one more quick NFL note. We have to get
here on the NFL where we want. The Saints are starting.
Tyler Shuck over Spencer Rattler. Your thoughts, that's like death
by drowning versus burning the death right.

Speaker 2 (02:34:09):
Okay, maybe we don't need to get deep into that.

Speaker 9 (02:34:11):
I guess.

Speaker 1 (02:34:11):
Oh well, you know what. I don't feel sorry for
Saints fans, including Chris Gordy one bit, you had two
decades of Drew Brees after the Chargers just unceremoniously dumped him,
I don't feel sorry for you.

Speaker 2 (02:34:25):
And one more quick note on Adrian Peterson, who was
arrested on charges of while driving while intoxicated and unlawfully
carrying a weapon. Stop getting arrested in Texas. Adrian he
was at the wheel of his SAUV in a suburban
Houston gas station down Sureland.

Speaker 1 (02:34:43):
Right.

Speaker 2 (02:34:43):
He was asleep at the wheel in sugar Land, Yes,
Fort Being County, at nine am.

Speaker 3 (02:34:49):
Asleep at the wheel, detected the odor of alcoholic beverage
emanating from his person. He had bloodshot, slash, glassy eyes,
and slurred speech. Where did they find him is a
parking lot asked where he was coming from. It was
in a parked at a gas station.

Speaker 1 (02:35:04):
Okay, in all seriousness, and as someone who has not
dealt with us personally, but I've had people close to
me that he needs help, Like somebody needs to reach
out because that kind of behavior right there. It's one
thing to to have issues like that, but when you're
out in the car and you can hurt other people
and then they're finding you in parking lots, that's not good.

Speaker 3 (02:35:25):
Second, d w I arrest in seven months and there
was he said he was coming from a poker game.

Speaker 2 (02:35:29):
He's been playing these poker games. Did you say he
was beat the crap out of the wonder all that
guy to beat him? Right, dude, that dude was giving
him the hands.

Speaker 1 (02:35:36):
I was like what And then they both had the
worst story ever. Oh, we're just buddies. We do this
all the time.

Speaker 2 (02:35:40):
After I mean, that can't happen. Well, like, yeah, if
you don't want to lose your meal ticket, like guy,
we like to box all the time. That's how OJ got.
That's how OJ got. It was per It was a
community service on a golf course. So we've got we've
got an ojo. Oh my god, Nicole, her whole family,

(02:36:01):
ok and JFK. In one segment, folks, welcome to the
Adam Clanton period. We's in nine to eleven before one third.

Speaker 3 (02:36:06):
I thought you were gonna get a ed Gean reference
in while we're here to see that yet.

Speaker 1 (02:36:09):
Okay, watching the John Wayne Gacy.

Speaker 2 (02:36:11):
See here we go. Oh don't you go to give
us your thoughts on Jeffrey Dahmer. Well we're here too.
That other guy who would have been rooting for the Americas,
Ted Bundy. Ted Bundy, I was gonna say, Ted Baker.

Speaker 1 (02:36:21):
He's from the great though, right, he made it all
the way from the great Northwest of Florida.

Speaker 3 (02:36:25):
All Right, we're shutting this segment down. Adam Clinton is
done for this segment, turned his microphone off. We're gonna
take a quick break. That's the NFL. Rewind here on
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (02:36:34):
A couple of segments to go off the rails here
until two o'clock The Matt Thomas Show with Ross clearly
without Matt Thomas. One thirty five pm here on Sports
Talk seven hunty of The Matt Thomas Show without Matt Thomas.

Speaker 7 (02:36:51):
With Ross.

Speaker 2 (02:36:53):
With Adam Clinton.

Speaker 1 (02:36:55):
You know I was just thinking about see.

Speaker 2 (02:36:57):
Okay, I just look a here. I looked to my left,
where Adam Clanton. Do you just have this this look
on your face like you've got something to say? So
I'm like, I'm bringing us back. I'm talking about this
is a Man Thomas show.

Speaker 3 (02:37:11):
Adam clan is here, and then you just got I've
got this grin on my face that won't quit to
my life. What is it that has popped into your mind?
It's obviously something I don't know, a sinister or remember
that time we all made that trip to New York
for the Super Bowl? Yes I do, and you and
I went to a boxing match at Barkley Center, Yes
we did.

Speaker 2 (02:37:31):
It was Louis Colazzo. Was it Danny Garciaan, Louis Claso,
Louis Closo, I can't remember.

Speaker 1 (02:37:38):
January of twenty fourteen.

Speaker 2 (02:37:41):
Uh huh it was?

Speaker 7 (02:37:43):
It was?

Speaker 2 (02:37:43):
Yeah, we got. We got the floor seats were only
like two hundred bucks or something. It was pretty good. Deal,
was such a great trip.

Speaker 1 (02:37:49):
Had floor seats to Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden
for the very first show of his residency that went
for like a decade.

Speaker 2 (02:37:55):
Had floor seats to Barklay.

Speaker 1 (02:37:56):
What did you say that was? This would have been
January of twenty.

Speaker 3 (02:37:59):
Four which, yeah, Victor Ortez, Yeah yeah, Victor orts got
knocked out in the second round. So I think you've
just been there for about five minutes.

Speaker 2 (02:38:07):
I got there late.

Speaker 1 (02:38:08):
That's fine, it's fine, it's fine, but it was very busy. Uh,
long train ride too to get up there. Brooklyn was
nice because we were staying in Midtown Manhattan. We were
in Manhattan and Barclays of courses in Brooklyn. So I
the long train ride, I didn't get I didn't get
shanked on the train though. It was safe back then.

Speaker 2 (02:38:27):
Yeah, you're fine, I mean yeah. So anyways, was that
the night that we went to white Castle after? I
think so? And white Castle is horrible? This is it sucked?

Speaker 4 (02:38:40):
It was.

Speaker 1 (02:38:41):
It was terrible. Ross and I disagree on so many things.
We love each other fiercely, but we also disagree on
so much stuff. You always want to be wrong, No,
you want to be wrong. We already covered this in
the first segment. I'm always right. I have never agreed
with Ross on something.

Speaker 8 (02:38:55):
More.

Speaker 1 (02:38:55):
We're looking like we're eating this food if you want
to call it that. Oh, and We're looking at each other.
I'll never forget, and I go, hey, man, this kind
of sucks, right yes, and You're like yeah, and I'm
already starting to feel bad, like my stomach.

Speaker 2 (02:39:11):
The onions were funky. Yeah, you know what it reminded
me of.

Speaker 3 (02:39:15):
It reminded me of like school lunch, you know where
it's like you get a hamburger and it tastes it
tastes like microwaves sixty five percent of what you think
a hamburger should taste like. Yeah, the flavors are sort
of there. It's like hamburger flavored food, but it's not
a hamburger. That's what it tasted like to me.

Speaker 1 (02:39:32):
I just I'll never forget that because it was the
first and the last time I've ever consumed white Castle.

Speaker 3 (02:39:39):
I don't think, I mean people swear by that stuff.
Oh maybe those the Northeastern is love. They made a
whole movie about it, Harold and Kumar. So that's why
I was excited. Stupid Yankees, that whole movie. I mean,
it is a classic Stoner film. Down here, Waterburger and
be a real man.

Speaker 1 (02:39:54):
Yeah, Waterburger's much better. Oh man. I couldn't wait to
come home and eat waterburg and I did good.

Speaker 3 (02:40:00):
You know, I would say ninety five percent of the
time I go anywhere, which when I go on vacation
and I come back, like the first things I have
to do I have to get Mexican food and don't
have to get water Burger when.

Speaker 1 (02:40:09):
I come back. It's been too long since I've had
water Burger. Okay, I'm not saying I get it tonight,
but I'm not saying I'm not.

Speaker 2 (02:40:17):
Feels like you're saying you might. Well, what's today? When
Tuesday is Tuesday, I don't know what data is. She's
she's got some good Italian food on the way, So
I can't do that. What do you mean on the way?

Speaker 1 (02:40:26):
Well, she's gonna be it'll be ready by the time
I get there. Oh okay, because of when my shift
is and in the traffic, I walk in the door
at like a quarter to seven most nights and they've
already finished whatever it is, and it's like they don't
wait for you to eat. I don't want them to.
He's got to go to bed at basically like seven thirty.
Oh he being your son, Yeah, he's seven years old.
He needs all this.

Speaker 2 (02:40:46):
Maybe you picked up a straggler.

Speaker 1 (02:40:48):
No, we don't need any more people at the house
consuming anything. Okay, we have him, we have me. We
have two dogs that are treated like humans. It's so stupid.
All right, she thinks we're getting a third You're gonna
get a third dog? Said no, we're gonna wait for
these two to die. And yeah, how old they're getting
up there, they're like ten or eleven. I think she

(02:41:08):
gonna wait for the dogs to croak to get new ones.

Speaker 2 (02:41:10):
We're not getting new ones. She thinks we are. We're not,
all right, and then he brings another one home. That's
when I start buying stuff I want. That's how that works.

Speaker 1 (02:41:21):
Oh, you got a new dog. That's great. I got
a corvette.

Speaker 2 (02:41:27):
So when are you gonna So when do you think
the third dog will be there? It feels like within
the next six months whatever my vet shows up. What
does that mean to euthanize?

Speaker 1 (02:41:35):
No, I'm saying like, if she wants to go do
something stupid, I can do that. We can play that game.

Speaker 2 (02:41:42):
I can spend dumb money too. This sounds like a
very vague I can do it better than you, and more,
I'll spend much more. This sounds sounds very like a
following the situation. It sounds like a powder keg situation.
She goes, she says this, She goes, You know, a
Grand piano would look great in our house. Okay, a
few things, okay, No, like a baby Grand or a

(02:42:04):
real Grand. What do you get one of those Steinways
and Sons?

Speaker 3 (02:42:06):
Those bad boys are like fine, sixty grand for the
low end.

Speaker 1 (02:42:10):
Yeah, you get them. Like the only person who's even
had lessons in our house is it ut in her
second year. We're not getting a Grand piano. But if
you want to say dumb things like that, I'll go
buy Lars's commemorative forty grand set.

Speaker 2 (02:42:23):
I'll get a drum set because two of us played drums.
Oh your oh, your son plays drums too, right, Hey,
dabbles seven, I actually play all right, you can get those.
You can get those ones that are just pads. They
don't make any sound.

Speaker 1 (02:42:36):
Or they make very little set right, the electronic ones. Okay,
is that what you have?

Speaker 9 (02:42:39):
No?

Speaker 2 (02:42:39):
Okay, you got a full on, loud, banging drum set. Again,
get a real set like in a garage.

Speaker 1 (02:42:44):
No to my theater. Okay, well yeah, I'm like, we're
not getting a third dog that's the whole point of this.
So you're gonna get a grand piano?

Speaker 9 (02:42:51):
No?

Speaker 3 (02:42:51):
Yeah, those Steinways there, I looked at a baby Grund.
There's a Steinway and Sun's store like in River Oaks.
Those things are like hundreds of thousands of dots, insane.
In the baby grands are like six to eight. And
that's for the low ends. I'm like, if we're gonna
spend that kind of money, you just get one on
Craigslist or or even model the bathroom. Do some of
these things we actually need to do to our house.

Speaker 1 (02:43:13):
Okay, so you're gonna you're gonna get a full grand
or a baby Grand. We're getting neither. Ross.

Speaker 2 (02:43:17):
I feel like you're getting a piano and a third No,
going back to point, we'll check back in twenty twal
It plays, Why don't you pick it up? It's fun.

Speaker 1 (02:43:25):
I don't want to pick up a hobby for forty grand.
That's kind of a spa.

Speaker 2 (02:43:31):
You gotta pay it. You can get a keyboard, there's
one of those.

Speaker 1 (02:43:35):
There's one of those.

Speaker 3 (02:43:36):
I learned when I was eight. I learned on the keyboard.
Then you plug in the headphones. That's what my dad
was like, Yeah, you better plug that headphone in pal.
You know who loves to hear about our our back
and forth?

Speaker 2 (02:43:46):
Who's that?

Speaker 1 (02:43:47):
He just loves it?

Speaker 2 (02:43:48):
Yeah, I bet he does.

Speaker 4 (02:43:49):
He goes.

Speaker 1 (02:43:49):
I love the client.

Speaker 2 (02:43:50):
I mean, you guys do need a reality show. There's
always something going on.

Speaker 1 (02:43:53):
And want the divorce to happen. That's the first thing
that happens.

Speaker 2 (02:43:56):
When I already lost the bat.

Speaker 1 (02:43:58):
How long I've been married?

Speaker 2 (02:43:59):
Why did you you guys realize everybody in this station
started betting on us, like the day we got engaged.

Speaker 1 (02:44:04):
I lost.

Speaker 2 (02:44:05):
That's a congratulations to you, bro. I just acceeded expectations.
Of course I did well. You have been almost ten years.

Speaker 1 (02:44:13):
Now I win.

Speaker 2 (02:44:14):
Yeah, I know I had five. I think I y'all
had the over five come to day.

Speaker 1 (02:44:18):
Yeah, our ten year anniversary is March first.

Speaker 2 (02:44:20):
Congratulations, It's fine if you make it all right. We
gonna take a quick break here on the show with
Ross Adam Kline at least thirty kids. Jonathan Allen's hanging out.

Speaker 3 (02:44:34):
Larry, we see you. We'll get you as well. Phone
lines open at seven one, three, two, one two five
seven nine. I'm gonna go shopping for baby grand pianos
I'm gonna send some send some options to Teresa real quick.

Speaker 2 (02:44:44):
During this during the break final segment of The Matt
Thomas Show with Ross without Matt Thomas, he is out
traveling with the Rockets.

Speaker 3 (02:45:02):
And he'll be back tomorrow. He'll also be out Thursday.
He is on the Monday Wednesday Friday schedule. He's like
at the end, yeah, also, but that was more like
he was off like Thursdays and Fridays or Fridays for sure, right,
Johnny Carson, Matt Thomas is on the community college schedule Monday,
Wednesday Friday.

Speaker 1 (02:45:19):
You know, like, any complaints that we don't work enough. Yes,
I'm just like wait a second, and then he's like, no,
I work more because I go I'm like, yeah, you're
chartered to six Diamond hotels.

Speaker 2 (02:45:30):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 3 (02:45:32):
He's he's eating shrimp cocktail, stretching out his feet, getting
a whole road to himself on a on a price.

Speaker 1 (02:45:38):
Point, stealing slippers from the hotel.

Speaker 3 (02:45:41):
M He's got a whole collection. Kleptomaniac. They call him
the slipper Man. All right, well, he'll be back tomorrow.
Did you price any of those pianos?

Speaker 7 (02:45:49):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (02:45:50):
Yeah, they're about one hundred g's for the Steinway ones.
He's just like, wh's just a good one. You got that.
You're fine, It's just something that won't get dusted. I
mean they look nice. I'm like, where that's the other thing?
Where are gonna put it? I don't know. We're gonna
move out the dining room table. I haven't been.

Speaker 2 (02:46:05):
I haven't been to your house in many moods.

Speaker 1 (02:46:06):
Yeah, I know, very very bitter.

Speaker 7 (02:46:12):
It's far.

Speaker 2 (02:46:13):
You know, when I was supposed to come to my
unpaid vacation, I forgot about that, and thanks for doing that.
It was just I was I got a lot of
stuff done around the house.

Speaker 1 (02:46:20):
Bad friend. You don't back. That's not true.

Speaker 2 (02:46:23):
I text you hold on. Let me, don't even love
me anymore. I want to divorce again.

Speaker 1 (02:46:28):
Let's go to counseling. We can work this out. Maybe
I'll tell you what couple's counseling. There's another one for you.
Go down that rabbit hole and not with this one.
She knows better than ask me to go to that crap.
What a racket that's like. There was weddings in college.

Speaker 2 (02:46:43):
I think it'd be very helpful for you, all right,
But anyways to pay someone to take her side.

Speaker 1 (02:46:48):
No, I'm good. I'm good. You don't know that, Yeah
I do. I've done it once.

Speaker 2 (02:46:53):
Well, okay, here's we're took the mirror. Then maybe you're wrong.
We're gonna go to a couples counseling or we're not
gonna make it. Why don't you hand pick the gonna
make it?

Speaker 1 (02:47:01):
And we didn't. It's fine, It's fine, all right, Adam Clinton.
I mean that that is a what else you want
to talk about?

Speaker 2 (02:47:08):
Ross a thicket of a forest for the issues, for
the therapists to work for days.

Speaker 1 (02:47:14):
Jotan must think that I am just this.

Speaker 3 (02:47:16):
It's gonna be I think about three sessions a week
for about six months just to start.

Speaker 1 (02:47:20):
This is why I'm interested. I'm saying, well, this is
why I can tell you a lot, man, This is
why Matt and I get along.

Speaker 2 (02:47:26):
Yes, because we're both just absolute awful people to prave
human beings.

Speaker 1 (02:47:32):
But he kind of he lives vicariously through me, I
believe sometimes.

Speaker 2 (02:47:35):
Oh well, yeah, he's still vicariously through everyone because I'm
way less filtered than he is.

Speaker 1 (02:47:40):
That's true. We think the same things.

Speaker 2 (02:47:42):
So we were gonna talk about, Oh, rockets, got their
first win last.

Speaker 1 (02:47:46):
Night, Adam, Yeah, it was. It was a San Antonio special.
Brooklyn Nets came to town smashed them. Oh, we're the
best team in the NBA. Feels good, doesn't it. Well,
the Rocky sisters of the poor. The Rockets are number
eight I think in the NBA. Now, that's why one
and two in net rating. I got news for you.
Another Spurs wins coming up on Wednesday. They're just gonna
have to go to Canada night.

Speaker 3 (02:48:07):
I mean they are there four and oh they've been
a bad team for the last couple of years. We're
not talking about the Spurs though, what.

Speaker 1 (02:48:11):
I'm talking about the Rocks. If you're playing the same
schedule the Spurs are, you'd be really good too.

Speaker 2 (02:48:17):
Well, it's not like the Pistons. The Pistons got trashed
by the Cavaliers. But the Calves were good last night.
The Calves were very good.

Speaker 1 (02:48:24):
And the Calves are actually a very good regular season
for now three years running. And the Rockets are gonna
be good. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:48:29):
But right now there's I think only two four to
oh teams in basketball, and it sit thunder in the Spurs.

Speaker 1 (02:48:34):
I think y'all really, y'all really should look at the
Spurs schedule. They're not gonna lose in time. All right,
we're not talking about the Spurs. Rockets. You did not
bring the Spurs up at all, you did you? We
talked about them before I got here. Then you've opened
up with them. You you started this.

Speaker 3 (02:48:51):
God all right? Uh, Tarry Easton, you're gonna tell you
saw this too.

Speaker 7 (02:48:56):
Right.

Speaker 3 (02:48:57):
There are people like, oh, tar Easton shouldn't have bet
on himself two games in. He's been horrible. Like give
it some time, folks like he he had the now
of course again we'll say qualify it was the Nets,
but a nice breakout game from Tarusaw and he looked.

Speaker 1 (02:49:08):
Awful against the Pistons if we're gonna keep it up,
but he did. And they're you know why the Pistons
played Rockets basketball, especially defensively. They're physical, they get after you.
Was it Jaron Duran was trying to before he takes. Yeah,
that's what they do. And the Rockets fell into that
trap the other night. The Brooklyn Nets do not play defense.

(02:49:31):
They don't do they don't play I mean it.

Speaker 3 (02:49:33):
Was like, I mean they do a little hero balls,
Little Terrence Man and Michael Porter junior.

Speaker 1 (02:49:37):
It's fun to watch Can Thomas scores forty on your Spurs.
That's what I'm gonna start calling them. By the way,
my god, your Spurs comes in last night. He's got
like two points and a half time. He was He's brutal.
They're so bad. They reminded me to get you some help.
They reminded me of the Rockets like four or five
years ago. They're all nineteen and they're gonna win twenty games.
The Spurs yet, No, the Brooklyn Nets. Okay, the Brooklyn Nets,

(02:50:00):
I said, bad. You have their twenty seven pick. I
believe that's.

Speaker 2 (02:50:03):
Gonna be a good pick. Do you have their under
you have their unprotected pick? Yeah, this next year. I
thought it was twenty six.

Speaker 1 (02:50:09):
You might you might be right.

Speaker 3 (02:50:10):
I was reading that on the twitter verse. It must
be true. Wow, I think they have their unprotected pick
this next year.

Speaker 1 (02:50:16):
And I mean you did that. You got Yeah, I know,
you got Kevin Durant. It would be great if they
got the number one pick this year. Who's it supposed
to be? I don't know, we know, Okay, I'm just saying,
like the MAVs and the Spurs and consecutive seasons getting
the number one pick. Oh okay, okay, NBA, all right,
are you you're going conspiracy guy? How's that gambling? How's

(02:50:39):
that gambling bust involving the mafia going Adam Silver?

Speaker 4 (02:50:43):
Hmmmm?

Speaker 1 (02:50:44):
Not great. I mean they traded Luca in probably the
worst trade since they traded Brunson, by the way, don't
forget they did that. They've just hand delivered him to
the Knicks.

Speaker 2 (02:50:55):
That's true.

Speaker 1 (02:50:56):
I think it was Nico Harrison that did that deal too,
and they they just hand Luca to the Lakers maybe
and then they get the number one pick magically a
few months later. They don't deserve that.

Speaker 2 (02:51:06):
Aj de Bunt, that's the guy that went to went
to BUYU for projected number one, projected number one.

Speaker 1 (02:51:12):
Yeah, I just all I'm saying is the Rockets did
things the right way. They methodically built this thing up,
never with the actual number one pick, projected number four pick.
Duke power forward Cameron Boozer, Carlos's son. Yes, yeah, I'm good.
I don't need a Boozer on the Rockets. Well, for one,

(02:51:33):
he played for the Jazz and for two, man, it's
all good. He did what now he duped a blind
man back in the day he saw his contract negotiation
with the I think it was the Caves at the time.
This was before the guy that did the comic sans
font statement that owned it. Yeah, doesn't he still own
the Cats? Yes? I think this was the guy that

(02:51:54):
preceded him. He was blind and Carlos Boozer lied to
him about whatever what something involving the contract negotiations.

Speaker 2 (02:52:02):
All right, so the Rockets. He's a bad person. How
impressed were you by Reed Shepherd's fifteen point per four.

Speaker 1 (02:52:08):
He's fine, He's fine.

Speaker 3 (02:52:11):
Number three picks in that drift six of eleven three
to seven from three eight assists only two turnovers for
reed Shepherd.

Speaker 2 (02:52:16):
That was nice to see as well.

Speaker 1 (02:52:18):
When we get top three picks, we get Reed Shepherd
and Jalen Green. When they get the top three pick,
they get the number one pick and a transitional player.
Transcendent player. We had to take a minute. Number four.
I know a men's great, he is great. Wouldn't trade
him for Wimby?

Speaker 2 (02:52:32):
Well, you are the thirty out of thirty general managers
would disagree with me.

Speaker 1 (02:52:36):
But ten years from now and when a men Thompson's
still playing and Victor Wimen yama is on the beach
because his body failed him. You'll see.

Speaker 2 (02:52:43):
That's the beauty of sports talk radio. Eventually we find
out how it goes, and he could break down very well.

Speaker 1 (02:52:49):
Right now? How much? Right now he's the odds on
favorite to win NBA MVP. How many segments do you
think wex Is gonna want to talk about Victor?

Speaker 9 (02:52:56):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (02:52:57):
I'm gonna go take a nap. You guys handle that.
My name is Paul. This between y'all. Appreciate y'all for listening.
Thanks to Chris Cordy for hanging out in the first hour.
Thanks to Jonathan Allen for producing the entire show. Thanks
to Adam Clinton. I do appreciate marriage your BIS free
for an hour at any time. Glenn Doc is an
in session. All right, we're out of here. Appreciate y'all.

(02:53:20):
Coming up next, it's two Adams. They call themselves the eighteen.
Matt Thomas will be back.

Speaker 2 (02:53:23):
I'll talk to you.

Speaker 1 (02:53:24):
Folks tomorrow at ten am here on Sports TX seven. Andy,
don't go anywhere.
