Speaker 1 (00:01):
Is The Matt Thomas Show with Ross ten.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
O one at h Town. Good morning, and welcome to
a Tuesday no a Wednesday edition of The Matt Thomas
Show at Ross. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, it happens. Look,
the reality is this donut day off. It's kind of
a weird to have a Tuesday off. It frankly sucks.
I'll be brutally honest with you, but I will say
when the plane touched down at three point thirty in

(00:32):
the morning on Tuesday morning, I was like, thank god,
I'm to do the show now that I don't Drew enjoy
the show with you, and we've done a few to
hate us. It's okay, no, no, no, but you just
have to be realistic. And I was like, if I
go to bed and get home, I got up my bed,
my head hit the pillow at four twenty. There were
just it would have been the worst show ever. I mean,
I mean it, it would have been one of the

(00:52):
worst shows in the history of sports. So I figured,
you know what, Ross, you can handle it, and you
did a great job. I call all my Aggie friends
like five, oh really, We're like, can we get enough
of this? Texas LSU crap off the radio. I'm probably
off today, leave me alone. Gordy was in so we
were talking some college football. We're talking big news, Lane Kiffin.

(01:12):
We're talking about Longhorns getting in the playoff. I mean, hey,
this big news.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Baby.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Aggie's are already in. So you enjoy your time. You
dropped a couple of spots, but nont worry about your good.
We did find out that Texas is not good and
not gonna get in, which is I don't think it's
a huge figured and they didn't get any help on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
So and Hunter, you're a Czech former athletic director at
University Houston, very low reviews is so far the DA
at Arkansas. But basically was asked yesterday he said, hey,
what what went wrong for Texas? And they said you're
lost to Florida. Crush you. And I don't think that's
no surprise any it's it's not And look, I'm sorry.
It's almost like I have to do like a public

(01:49):
service announcements for Longhorns fans or they are throwing fits
right now.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
We're not gonna We're gonna cancel the game against Ohio
State next year. We're gonna cancel they have a future
home and home with Michigan or Notre Dame or something
like that, we're gonna cancel all like, Okay, throw your
hissy fits, but you can win these big games. Texas
scheduled Michigan in a big home and home and won
that game.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
You can win next year against Ohio State. You can
beat Florida, you can beat Georgia. If you're saying we're
Texas and we're Tier one college football program, go beat
Ohio State, go beat Georgia, or don't lose to Florida.
And that game wasn't even as close as the final
score was. And as I said, and I'm gonna get
lectured from Longhorn what's his name, Scott if they almost

(02:35):
lost to Kentucky, they almost lost to Mississippi State. This
is not some no doubt about it, top five team
in the country. It is a fringe case. And wherein
you're on the fringe, sometimes you don't make it in
and they didn't. They're not gonna make it in. It
is what it is. Stop throwing a hissy fit over it.
I'm sorry, I ain't gonna get your started this, but

(02:57):
I mean, I know you can't be riled up at
ten one. We didn't we have to play that back.
Oh we could play that, you know, because to peel
the curtain back. Before I got here in twenty ten,
they would the old show would take segments of their
show and just re record them right off the dude
I was producing that show, I would record it. I'd
be like, what are y'all doing? If let me tell you,
excuse me if you repeat a segment of the show

(03:21):
and you don't edit it or you don't clip it,
like if you have interviews that you play like ip,
if we have somebody out of thirty instructions, you shouldn't
be doing radio. You should be embarrassed. And that's why
those people are gone for the reason.

Speaker 5 (03:32):
You just can't.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
You can't be that lazy. We would get people calling
in like, hey, why are y'all replaying this from earlier
in the show. Oh, just terrible. I'd be like, I
don't have an answer. I'm just part time now. Interviews
are one thing because colors has changed all the time,
autis has changed, and interviews are interesting and you only
get like for example, and the head coach of the
Houston Rockets is a big get you'll be on tomorrow
as a matter of fact, So I'm looking forward to that. Yeah,

(03:54):
all right, Uh so uh yesterday. I'll be honest, I
listened about seventy seconds of the show because I was
hunch drunk. That's fine, sleep deprived when my mom, Yes,
he poke his head in here. Yeah, so Lane Kiffer
for life, Lane Kiffin foot I bet he was. Is
he insufferable right now? He was getting a little upset

(04:14):
with me when I was like, what is lane Kiffin won?

Speaker 6 (04:16):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (04:16):
He pulls that card on Sark. Sarka hasn't won anything.
Shark has at least won a Power for Conference championship. Yeah,
Lane Kiffin has it one. Didn't y'all go like the
two nationals playoffs? Yeah? I mean, if you got none
of this funny, it's funny. How that's good? And then
he said this is the best part, Matt, He said,
I call it down the middle. I take my lsu hat.

(04:36):
Oh my god. He is the biggest Homer I've ever
met in my life. Love you. Oh, not the biggest,
but he's up there. He's closed. Okay, it's definitely top six.
All right. On the radio show today, we're going to
have shut your ball mass up at eleven thirty, which
I'm sure people could be calling in on that. Can't wait.

(04:57):
We got the news at noon. Calvin Sampson is going
to drop I it one thirty for a little quick visit.
The Cougar's playing Florida State this weekend at the Tota Centers.
We'll talk to him about huge playing that and talk
about the good you know what, I am Cassel Junior
on the squad. I guess I should know that I
did watch actually Florida dukey yesterday. Okay, Cardls Boozer's son
Camra is really good. I know Longhorns found out about

(05:20):
that game one. Yeah, and I didn't shed a tear
with Florida losing the national losing the game, although they
beat me in the national championship. Man, I think you, Matt.
They beat my school. They beat me to flying to
San Antonio and nearly died. COVID beat me during that.
That was the worst part of it. Not only did
my team lose a championship, but I got sick as
soon as I got back. That sucked. I'm sorry to hear, Matt. Yeah,

(05:41):
that's fine, all right. And then coming up at about
forty five minutes. Our clock's not working. Forty five minutes
from now. We're going to talk to Gretchen Sheer. She's
the president of business operations for the Rock. Yes, people
have been asking, now, look, others are we have we
have a fire alarm going off arm, but we can't
go anywhere the worst I mean, hopefully we're okay. It's
some alarm point ping is this? A lot of people have,

(06:04):
you know, cut the cord and doing the streamings, and
one of the by products of that, unfortunately for a
lot of people is you can't watch Space City Home Network.
They're now offering an app pay and pay app service
that will allow you to now watch it where as
you travel. I will tell you this is very intriguing
to somebody who wants to cancel Fubo and doesn't want
to go back to Exfinity. So you'll be you'll be

(06:25):
an interesting participants. A lot of questions for ritch. I
bet you doo, I bet you so. Gretal Journius at
ten fifty we mentioned Texas getting the war yesterday for
a hunter year a check that apparently in the room
when the door was shut, they looked, look at everybody's
losses and they said, Texas, you have the worst one. Yeah,
And the counter argument is good, look, you should look

(06:45):
at the Winds as well. Three top ten wins is huge, right?
And are are the Longhorns one of the top twelve
teams in the country? And should they be in? I
say yes, but to cry foul like it's some human
tragedy that they're not in.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
No.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
Uh, Texans get ready for the practice field probably as
we speak at starting their week preparation for the Chiefs
game on Sunday. We have a startling bit of little
NBA news that's not going to resonate here in Houston,
but it certainly resonates around if you're a fan of
the sport. And one of the greatest all time players
who have me be former Rocket is Well, was told

(07:20):
at three o'clock in the morning to leave, which is
a really odd scenari. I'll tell you about what's going
on that we were talking about college. The number one
recruit in the country was an LSU kid from Louisiana
and he has decided to hold off on his early signing.
He wants to see how what LSU staff looks like.

(07:42):
I don't know if I believe that take me an offer,
I've anymore zero. I don't know if he's waiting for
the assembled coaching staff. I don't know if this number
one kid named Lamar Brown is worried about who the
special team's coordinator is going to for LSU football. I
think he's worried about if that's gonna be a five

(08:03):
or six and they're keeping the decordinator and Lane Kiffin's
gonna call plays, right, I mean, what else are we
waiting for? I guess Charlie Weiss Junior is going back
to Ole Miss to coach. Okay, but is he? I
think he's is Indiana going still going to LSU at
the end of the day. I don't know. I'll lose
track of these things, don't.

Speaker 6 (08:18):
I don't care.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
Yeah, Yeah, Rockets play the Kings tonight. Looking forward to that.
That should be a nice way to uh get rid
of the wounds. That was the game against Utah Jazz.
It was fine and it wasn't great. Well, you have
to you know, I always my belief is you have
to have you have to try to have less than five.
Oh my god, I did we really lose that game? Games? Well,

(08:40):
you got again one, so far. It's only one so far.
But we were literally talking on the show like, hey,
no bad losses for the Rockets yet, and then it happened.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Well it's funny because I asked em I don't in
the pregame visit I always have. I said, hey, you know,
how do you get away from the Well, we just
kicked their ass for twenty eight points? And He's like,
I think we're gonna be ready to do this. And
I don't know if Steven Adams not playing was a
huge factor, but it certainly was a factor. It was
part of it. And you were cold from three and
the Jazz shot forty percent from three and they have
I mean I was talking about this yesterday on the

(09:11):
program Matt. Even the worst NBA teams like Lori Marketing
is an all star. I mean, use of Nurkic is
like a you know, eighteen and ten kind of guy.
George County George is good. Ace Bailey is starting to
come along like they are. Even the bad NBA teams
these days have four or five players that can make

(09:31):
you say wow here and there. Yeah, so we will
get a little bit of that. We have to get
into a story that was told by one a former
NBA player that owns a steak restaurant in New York.
Former NBA player owns a state restaurant in New York. Okay,
and he had to kick out somebody out of his
restaurant that was a former NBA player as well, and

(09:54):
a guy he competed against. You're saying, well, what do
you do to get kicked out? I think I'm gonna
save it for a little but what he did was gross.
So I'm gonna see if you can finish the puzzle pieces. Okay.
NBA owner finds out our restaurant owner owns finds out
that a player in the NBA who you used to

(10:14):
compete against was at his restaurant and had to physically
pick him up and carry him out of the restaurant.
Okay hmm. And and it was a I find myself
with these with the Twitter clips listening, you know, there's
like there's nine I'm gonna pill the current back for
just one second. There's nine million athlete podcasts. Everybody the

(10:35):
mother is doing these podcasts.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
Now.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
Yes, very few of them, I mean less than one
percent are sustainable because the athletes don't really care. It's
it's a lot of time, so it's a lot of time.
They're great storytellers, but they can't. They don't do it
on a daily basis. They don't. I mean, doing twenty
hours of worship is fun for us. We it's the
greatest shop we've ever had in our lives. But it
is a job it does, it is a responsibility. These

(10:56):
athletes that just sit in front of a microphone and
tell old stories that that's gonna run out after a while.
You can only hear so many Gilbert Aarina stories, you know.
Matt Barnes can only drop so many f bombs on
his podcast. They're not sustainable. They have little clips and
in summerre more successful than others, but large so they
go in and out. But that's what these trends in

(11:17):
ours are as. You're seeing these athletes, these former athletes
doing these podcasts. No one's listening all the way, but
they're enjoying these little ninety second clips and I'm wanted
to happy one of them. So I just happened to
see it here one and go. That was pretty funny.
So what else going on? What did y'all get to yesterday?
Anything juicy besides fighting with Locke on lsu H. No,
we didn't really fight that much. We were mostly in

(11:38):
agreement about everything. Okay. By the way, Zion Williamson out
another three weeks. Oh wow, So that we want to
check the seven on it next year seventy game schedule.
I mean he played seventy once already, Bud. Did he
over extend himself getting in the best shape of his life?
Probably so? And that's just the NBA. Now everybody's got
the these Steve Kerr was talking about all these soft

(11:59):
tissue injuries are happening everywhere. Yeah, and we also got
to talk about try tips okay, delicious, Yeah, that's good,
Try tip greater than brisket. You heard me? You heard me?

Speaker 3 (12:14):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (12:15):
And what's the other nickname you give yourself mister America?
Mister you call yourself mister Texas. Let me take something
right now. See now, nobody's listening right now.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
So get.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
Are we on? Anybody out there? Literally? Anyone another? You
all come around at noon? You know, we got to
start doing We always start giving some prize away for
the ten o'clock audience. That's actually a good idea. Just
randall gifts doesn't matter, Frank, you know I'm gonna start today.
I'm we're gonna say something in the ten o'clock hour.

(12:49):
You just came on this airwaves. You call yourself mister Texas,
and then you just said try tip is better than brisket,
It's delicious. This if we're gonna put this, you know
what you can we put a more ratorium on your
food opinions. Stop as mister Texas. I'm gonna try to
get more tri tip in this state. Oh my lord. Okay,
here's what we're gonna do to you. Buy some try Tip.

(13:09):
You ready for this? I use it in Chili. That's good.
I'm gonna we're gonna say something in this ten o'clock hour,
and at noon today we're I'm gonna give my my
personal tickets to the Rockets game way today. Okay about them,
but it's gonna be something that we said in the
ten o'clock out. Okay, So if you didn't listen, if
you if you're listening now, you definitely want to listen

(13:31):
at noon, Okay, because I'm gonna I'm gonna ask twelve
o'clock before the news. Somewhere in the twelve o'clock hour,
I'll say, hey, remember what we've talked about in the
ten o'clock hour, Okay, and if somebody remembers what it is,
they're gonna get my tickets for the rocket thing me
that bombshell you just dropped very well, it could be
you know all right? Seven one three two one two
five seven ninety if you want to join the conversation
today and again, just just want to make sure this

(13:52):
is working it off, you know, so, I'll good, kid,
So I just want to check your seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seventy. We did something on the show
Monday that everybody else is doing it now in Houston
Sports Radio. I believe I'll tell you what that is next. Wow, Si,
what I you and I talked about on Monday was

(14:14):
nothing breaking news, nothing that was organic to this show only.
But it's just something that I've noticed that a lot
of people are putting out on the Twitter streets. Is
one hundred percent accurate. If the Houston Texans make the playoffs.
If they do, they've got just as good a chance
as an anybody else win the whole damn thing. Yes,
they do. And AFC, when did anybody ever think that

(14:36):
when the Texans were first for zero and three, And
did anybody ever think that before the season began, when
you thought about Buffalo, you thought about Kansas City, you
thought about the Baltimore Ravens, you thought about maybe a
healthy Joe Burrow with Cincinnati. I mean you thought, well, maybe, Okay,
Pittsburgh's got a better quarterback situation with Aaron Rodgers than
they had in the previous couple of years. This that's

(14:57):
why you just can That's why ever NFL season, every
every sports season is so fascinating. That's why I think
we love sports, we love our jobs because we don't
we don't repeat ourselves. Ever, No, Buffalo, I mean, granted,
did beat the crap out of the Steelers in the
second half of that game over the weekend, but the
first half they looked average. We saw firsthand how porous

(15:19):
their offensive line wasn't trying to protect Josh Allen a
couple weeks ago. Their run defense was notably horrific. Kansas City,
I mean, I don't want to say you're gonna bury them,
but you're pretty close to Berningham if you beat them
this week. New England is fresh and interesting, but you're
not sure, Jacksonville is the biggest fraudulent eight and four
maybe in the history of the NFL. I like that.

(15:41):
You're saying that, uh, Denver good, but when they came
to town, they didn't look like world meters. Oh Knicks
does not scare me under any circumstance. So again, the
heavy lifting hasn't been done yet. I mean, I guess
a lot of the lifting is done, but the heaviest
lifting is doing some thing you've never done before. You
got to go to Kansas City on a Sunday night

(16:04):
on prime time on NBC and be one of the
greatest quarterbacks ever to play in the game. Yes, you
have to realize they aren't the dynastic Chiefs that they
have been. They are vulnerable, but at the end of
the day, it is Andy Reid, Pat Mahomes and the
Chiefs in Arrowhead in a night environment, right, So it'll
be a good test in Travis Kelsey has always seem
to have good games against them. Now Travis Kelsey is

(16:25):
about seven what he was first career breakout against the Texans. Yeah,
he's always crushed and look the Texans of a history
of the last ten years. Not that that should be
in the indicative of this year's defense, but the Texans
have typically had a horrific time stopping tight ends. I
mean Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez, and I mean just among
Dallas Clark, and I go on and on with guys that
have crushed the Texans. Dallas Clark's name on the show today,

(16:49):
Frank White check, let's go. That's not Frank. That'd be
a little bit who. There's been a lot of Titans
over the years. I mean any Titan is. Yeah, it's
been rough, but again that that's it's all in the past.
ROSSI you are a battle red yeah, and I respect
the hell out of that. Whoa you, But you gotta
go win this game. It's a game. Hold on, No, no,

(17:10):
hold on, I didn't say that. Hold I think if
you really want to build a moment, because here's the
reality of it. I said this like five weeks ago.
If you get to ten, you're in. Yes, they can
lose this game game and get to ten. They can
get to ten, but it will be significantly more difficult
because you're gonna get into a messy tie breaking situation

(17:32):
and unfortunately, one of your remaining victories that we're all
considering a layup. Is Arizona coming up and that's a
non conference win, but it's still a win. Win's a win.
A win is a win if they get it, but
it's not guaranteed. But if you have a muddied group
of ten three or four teams sitting around ten wins,
conference record is going to matter. It'll be nice to win.

(17:55):
They're only four and a half point dogs. A I
called for the upset gut feelings. Yes, Jonathan, what do
you have about this? I know who you have Jonathan
Jonathan working today. We like screen, it's our our screen.
You know, let me re let me restart this. That's
the question. Was who's winning Chiefs or Texans on Sunday?

(18:17):
A serious question. I don't you know what? I might
as well be battle here. I like that. I like that.
By the way, I also made a gut feeling yesterday
and my co host at the time did not like
I said, L s U and Link Kiffin part ways
and unfavorable circumstances within four years. Your thoughts on that

(18:37):
four years? Within four years? Okay, let me give you
if you gave me the you gave me the end results.
It's like I tell you why, Uh, the board leaves Alabama. Okay,
Alabama is a better job than l s U. It is. Oh,

(18:57):
if LSU gets big broad by Alabama, that'd be sough.
So that's one scenario. Okay, number two, I mean, how
long is a leash for him? You're already paying out
Brian Kelly. Yes, the eighty four is still paying ogean.
I read the eighty four million is guaranteed for Kiffin.
Oh that's nice. I mean, I know, Louisiana, you like

(19:21):
running water. You'll have to have the foss has turned
off for several hours a day, against pumping the well,
because the state will not be able to pay its bills.
If you want what did you say again? You said
four years. Unfavorable circumstances within four years, as in there's
there's an NCAA infraction, or there's some scandal, or he's

(19:42):
just not good enough for the stands are are too
high because Brian Kelly went nine and three, ten and three,
ten and three and five and three and gotta let
go because people didn't like him. People don't like Lane Kiffin.
Have you heard seen all these stories coming out after
he's leaving. Oh, he's a Douche. Yeah, oh you know,
excuse me, I'm sorry, he's a hoe. By the way,
By the way, did you see the new shirts that

(20:03):
are being printed? Ho h e a u X you
Louisiana's always figuring out way to put eux. Well, I
mean it's against anything that ends with an O sound.
You just put eaux on like villa real. We can't
do that, villa Rejoe Thomas Hope. Yeah, well some people. Okay,
So while I like where you are going, I'm going

(20:24):
to have to not buy into your gut feeling. Okay,
I think for I was almost for six. I just
got it, and it's literally a gut feeling. I got
a bad gut feeling about this, like we're all everybody's
falling all over themselves acting like Lane Kiff and it
is God's gift to coaching. No no, no, lsu people
are doing it. Everybody else despises him, period. It's it's interesting.

(20:46):
We'll see time reveals all truths, Matt, Like, for instance,
if what's a better job at this point, Alabama, that's it.
But even but let me ask you, this is Alabama
a better job? They don't have the nil money that
l s U money is as I don't I don't
have the ability to answer that question fully. Alabama is

(21:07):
a bigger job historically, but LSU's better. It's it's Texas
adjacent and ls US a great recurr fertile recruiting ground.
We you know, we gotta stop doing though, and I
think I'm as guilty about this as anybody else. We
have to stop thinking about what's a better job now
because changing like the number one high school quarterback I
believe for the well, he was gonna switch to Vandy.

(21:29):
But now that's we're not sure you're talking about. I
did see that, Yeah, okay, because then he put on
his Twitter account that that's not true where he's supposed
to go Georgia. Correct, Yes, I was like Georgia to Vandy. Yeah, well,
because the I think the Georgia quarterback is going to
stay there, and that's why guys are switching allegiances because
of incumbents are possibly staying. That's what I also, I

(21:49):
had been reading so it could be situational. And then yeah,
everybody can get in the game now when it comes,
because now you can inject the money in. I l
good for the overall health of college football. What we
have to do is we have to stop thinking about
what job is better because of what they've done in
the last five years. Worry about unless it's like Texas.

(22:09):
That's true because you have house date well and M too.
I mean AM has gotten now great money and they
now have it will be in the college football Playoff? Okay,
So what anything else in the gut feelings that I
that you guys running through that I wouldn't be met. Sorry,
anything else on gut feelings? Let's see. Uh oh, Gordy
said Sark will be gone within four years after I

(22:29):
said what I said. It's a bitter step brother. Was it?
It was good? It wasn't contentious. It can I can testify,
I know, yeah, you know it wasn't though. It was fun. Okay.
And Jonathan had what was your biggest Jonathan had the
Hoosiers upsetting the Buckeyes. We'll see c B action, you know, Oh, man,
I have Georgia covering easily against Alabama, which could be wrong,

(22:54):
we'll see. Yeah. By the way, a lot of people
are rooting for Duke hard By the way, now that's
going to create even more chaos. Correct, it's so don't
do the automatic qualifier top twelve teams are in. Let's
move on. That's never going to happen. I know, Cole, well,
it's not gonna ever happen because they're going to sixteen
next year. I bet you. But my point is that
I I am, and I think you and I have

(23:15):
argued about this. I like, if you win something a
guaranteed slot, why I just do if you have to
play for something, Yeah, duke upsets. Who are they even
playing Virginia or whatever? The ACC championship on If an
eight and five team pulls off, if they get a
couple pick sixes and a muff punt and they pull
off an upset, they should be in the playoffs. You
win s stupid. The rule is out ridiculous. You win

(23:38):
your conference championship, if you are the conference champion, you
deserve if you want to call it. If they don't
have a conference championship game, then you can go. You
can go five hundred in the league and then get
lucky in one game. I would be with you if
it were win the regular season, like for example, in
the old Big ten, Big twelve where everybody played each other,
and you win that conference and you're in I get that,

(23:59):
but you get lucky in one conference championship game and
you're bumping some other team out. You're bumping on Miami
or a Vanderbilt or whoever out. No, no, yeah, I'm
okay with it. Just like in conference tournaments if you
have some nine seed in the uh uh five seen
in the Mountain West tournament. Yeah, that's a dumb rule too.
Love it is drama. We got Tom Pinders and the

(24:20):
Cougars getting hot in the tournament. That did happen. We
did lose the Maryland and Matt be careful, man, you
got you got our role tied over here, agatting texting
me upset with you? Uh oh, who's that? Oh? Gosh,
get tech text Matt? Or did he who's cold tide?

Speaker 3 (24:37):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (24:37):
Is that what he calls himself? Yeah? Yeah, I'm more
offended by than the amount of videos of his face
on it or shrung on my timeline. He he's at Can.
He shoots videos and they're like these enormously long, big
pictured videos him wearing his backward cats. By the way,
you can't trust anybody that wears a backwards cap. That's

(24:58):
number one. I'm sorry, Well, all right, ten thirty one.
It is a Matt Thomas show of Ross. Seven one
three two, one two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven Out of your calls are next.
All right, let's talk to some lovely people, shall we.
It is a Matt Thomas show of Ross, and of
course Ross and me being back in the studio that
I had not sign into my computer. So I'm going

(25:18):
to have you go to line number one and say
hi to You're new here. I know I'm a fraud. James,
Whether's on seven, hinting at ten thirty five, James, good
morning to you.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (25:29):
Earlier, earlier this week, one of your guys said.

Speaker 8 (25:32):
Something that kind of kind of made me wonder.

Speaker 7 (25:35):
He said that he was recruited by Oklahoma but then
end up going to Stephen F.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
Austin.

Speaker 7 (25:40):
Did he not like Norman Oklahoma or he just wanted
to be a level jack.

Speaker 2 (25:44):
I don't understand why he didn't.

Speaker 7 (25:45):
Go to Oklahoma.

Speaker 2 (25:46):
Uh, probably interest for Johnson. It was Jonathan Oh you
talking about me?

Speaker 7 (25:49):
James?

Speaker 2 (25:50):
Oh? No, I was recruited by OU and Western Kentucky. Uh.
And then I had chose wes N. Tucky because I
got a full rise colarship Oklahoma was only give me
six and I went there and I tried out of
Weskentucky because of team problems and I want to go
to a better program.

Speaker 7 (26:07):
Okay, that makes sense.

Speaker 3 (26:08):
I just didn't.

Speaker 7 (26:08):
I wondered why he picked Stephen over Oklahoma. Just didn't
make sense to me.

Speaker 2 (26:12):
Just have been off air conversation. I don't know what
this is bringing to the show right now. I think
it's interesting.

Speaker 3 (26:17):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (26:17):
I don't know. Learning about Jonathan's lore, well you glad
he spurned the Sooner.

Speaker 7 (26:25):
Is this some mad Thomas show with Matt you?

Speaker 2 (26:32):
Okay, William sucks. He just does love James. Thank you, James, James,
we don't thank you.

Speaker 6 (26:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (26:41):
Jonathan was telling a story about going, uh possibly going
to OU. I think it was yesterday. Tell the reason
why you really went to Western Kentucky. That was the
reason that was partied way harder in Western Kentucky. Party
harder than than Norman really got moonshine. Come on, Norman,
get is down. I went to three parties of my visit.

(27:01):
Oh and did you meet that special someone in any
of those three traps? You know, I was trying to
be little. I had to grow up at the time,
I couldn't do anything. You said you tried to be loyal,
which I you know means I did. I just you know,
I plurted there, here and there. You know, they said, Sarah,
I heard your nickname Hognuts. Is that accurate? Something's wrong

(27:24):
with you, something is wrong with me. Let's fix it.
Let's fix it with Roger. Online four at ten thirty eight. Roger,
good morning, do you good morning?

Speaker 9 (27:34):
Way too early for a hog nuts reference, anyway, Matt,
I've talked to multiple people about this brand associated I
just thought we're going to play for second place this
year in the NBA.

Speaker 10 (27:49):
Oklahoma didn't start losing games. I just feel like I
don't feel like they're that much better or special than
anybody else. They just have a certain mint. It just
seems to be working for them. And I feel like
like that lost against Utah was just like something I
thought we were going to be a bit of avoid
this year, but apparently not.

Speaker 8 (28:10):
You know, we're all humans.

Speaker 2 (28:12):
Yeah, that's right, that's Roger. Let me ask you this
Oklahoma City was the best team in the NBA going
the playoffs last year.

Speaker 3 (28:17):
Right, Well?

Speaker 2 (28:19):
Yeah, how many games did they have to go to
to win the Western Conference last.

Speaker 7 (28:23):
Year, you have to go all seven and how.

Speaker 2 (28:25):
Many times a day, how many games I had to play,
how many times I had to play Indiana to play
to win the championship?

Speaker 3 (28:30):
Seven times? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (28:31):
So yeah, Look, they are the best team in the NBA.
It ain't even close right now, but regular season championships
aren't guaranteeing anything. Now. Will they be the heavy favorite
had they been there and done that? Of course, I'm
respectful as hell them. I want them to lose. It
doesn't feel like it's going to happen much this year.
But just because you rattle off sixty five sixty eight

(28:52):
wins does not guarantee a clear and breezy path towards
an NBA championship, whether it's a Rockets or somebody.

Speaker 7 (29:00):
You're right.

Speaker 10 (29:00):
I despised that franchise because they had three generational players
and then they all left, and then they get this
super team again and they're all young, young.

Speaker 2 (29:09):
You know you know who his fault? It is the
Clippers fault. It's Clippers fault. They Kawhi Leonard told the
Clippers go get me a star. All right, we'll go
get you. Paul George, what do you have to do well.
We're gonna have to give up five first round picks.
Give do Oklaoma City and give him shake Gildes Alexander.
I blame the Clippers Today's NBA and.

Speaker 10 (29:31):
Now look, I now look, they're dupe again. They're dumping
all their old veterans again, and yeah, good for them anyway,
So onto the text. I know it's kind of early
twenty Wednesday. Kind of wanted to get my final statement
on Friday, but they just I just feel like, you know, uh,

(29:52):
Mahomes has a big backage, this huge bag. It's going
to take two people to carry that bag on that field,
so you can take them out. I I just feel
like we I just don't want us to go into
that trap like last year, all these pump fakes, all
these I'm gonna am I gonna run, Am I gonna slide?
Am I gonna I throw the ball? I just don't
want to give that that little dance that he does,
and I forget the rest are not really on the

(30:14):
side this year. I just feel like their team is
what it is. Uh, their offensive lines is in shambles
and their defense can't tack anybody. So I just want
that to just be the case and not all this
other middle middling stuff.

Speaker 2 (30:27):
Well, I'll tell you what if if he wants to
go thank you for the phone call. If he wants
to do that when he you know, the the dike
move and stay in bounds, go ask Jackson Dart how
that's doing for him. Mmmm. He said he's gonna keep
playing the way he plays, Jackson dark man. Of course
he'll be. His brain will be of scrambled eggs. In
a very short period of time, he said, check my
high school tape. This is how I've always played in

(30:50):
high school anymore, Jackson, Jackson, you won't remember high school
in about two weeks. Real quick. Let's go to Gary
on seven. Honey, Gary, good morning to you, sir.

Speaker 5 (30:59):
There you good morning guys. I'm on the Texans real quick.
But I want to come in on that coach signed
with LSU. Hell yeah, he's going to four or five years.
He's going to go to another guaranteed ten year contract
and he get the money from LSU and them. It's
anybody stupid enough to continue that cycle. But man, that guys,
you got to give him credits because man, look what

(31:20):
he's got going on. He just signs ten years, works
for and get paid for ten over and over. So
but yeah, he'll be gone if somebody's dumb enough to
get him. On the Texans, I tried to get in
my my gut feelings yesterday, but I called too late.
And I sure one on one your tickets there, Matt today,
but I won't be listening at twelve. So on the Texans,
I'm a little Texans fan, but I'm more of a realist.

(31:41):
And you got a team here that knows how to
play when they have to play, and this is this
is playoff game going on, especially for Kansas City, and
you have a wounded wolf bear whatever you have backed
into a corner and that's what's going to happen. Unfortunately,
I look for Kansas City to come out with a win.
I'm gonna say twenty seven to twenty ish, but unfortunately

(32:06):
I think Kansas's is gonna take it. But exciting football
coming up, and uh sure, wish I was going to
be listening to take some basketball tickets.

Speaker 2 (32:13):
Uh no, well that's what we're gonna. Thank you Gary
for the phone. I appreciate it. We all let me
take us and we love you. Ten o'clockers even James
and Klin. We love the ten o'clockers, Yes, we just
do you. Yeah, I mean you're turning a new leaf
over in five minutes. No, James James call still sucks,
but uh, you know, it doesn't mean we can't appreciate it.
Thanks to James, Carrey and Roger for calling it. Yeah,
we love the tenant you know. And again, if we'll

(32:35):
be giving me my rock my personal rocket tickets at
noon today, beautiful. So you had to listening sometime this
hour seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven ninety there
is something called direct to consumer app that is making
breaking news in the world of sports television. Will take

(32:57):
you about that next ten to forty three on Sports
Talk seven. It's ten forty nine on Sports Talk seven. Nuty,
Matt and Ross with you here until two o'clock today.
We got to shut your bow mass up at eleven
thirty the news. At noon, Calvin Samson University Houston coach
is going to drop by at one thirty. Cougars will
be inside Tota Center for the game against Florida State
this Saturday. Meanwhile, we will be in Tota Center tonight

(33:19):
for the game against the Sacramento Kings six o'clock launch
Pad hosted by Ross Videreel. That is correct. How'd you
know that because you mentioned to somebody? Okay, I don't
look at the schedule. Typically, thank you, I met, but
I'm I've promoted it. I appreciate you. When Dan or
Gordon does it, I don't remember. I mean generally during
the week, if I'm not on vacation, you can assume

(33:40):
it's me. Yeah, it's fine. You deserve some time off.
Thank you. Whether you get paid four to night, it's
a different issue. Well, we'll see. Uh seven one three
two one two five seven ninety. If you want to
chime into the conversation, that's seven one three two one
two five seven nine zero. And if you want to
reach out to us via Twitter. By the way, Twitter
is they're doing some clean my Twitter. I think I'm

(34:01):
down three hundred people. You are, yes, Oh I didn't
even notice. Yeah. And a lot of it is because
of deactivated accounts. Oh really yeah? Oh mine's Oh mine
looks stable. Well, you know what I want, an authentic
croup use at sports RV. I mean, your porn accounts
still very very very active, you know. Try to go
to the Instagram at sports RV as well, and the

(34:23):
instagram is doing really well. I'm over thirteen hundred now
I'm largely approaching thirty one hundred. Wow, that's great, man.
I don't even putting bikini pictures of myself up there. Yeah,
well yeah, that would really explode it. I think you
should do it. I don't think. So let's say how
to our friend Gretchen Shear. She's the president of a
business operations for your Houston Rockets and I at home
against Sacramento Kings and Gretchen's with the Ross and myself here. Gretchen,

(34:46):
good morning. You have some exciting news for those people
that have said I want to travel and hang out
and be at a restaurant or be at a bar,
or maybe just be at home. I don't watch my
Rockets on my phone. You can now do that, correct,
you can?

Speaker 11 (35:02):
You can? Sorry, I got distracted joining whatever conversation you
guys were.

Speaker 2 (35:08):
Yeah, it's really your it's really your fault for jumping
in late. I have to admit that, all right. So
the name of the is called Space City Home Network Plus.
Is that correct?

Speaker 6 (35:18):
Yes?

Speaker 11 (35:18):
Sc HN plus. If you're looking at it through the
app store or on your TV.

Speaker 2 (35:23):
Okay, and it is a pace service that frankly a
lot of other networks have done in other parts of
the country. You guys have been working on this with
the astros for several months. Not correct, Yes, we have.

Speaker 11 (35:36):
I mean we acquired when we acquired the network two
years ago with the Astros, you know, we were super
fortunate for that ownership came together to make sure that
we had a stable regional option that stayed consistent for fans.
So our biggest priority was making sure that we kept
that programming, We kept the talent, we kept the technology,

(35:56):
We had all of their relationships with the cable and
linear distribut in place, and then that got us ready
to launch the digital and streaming version, which we did today.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
All right, schmplus dot com is the website or you
can go right to your app store. We're talking about basically,
if you had the Astros and the Rockets together about
a dollar get per game? Correct, you can do it
monthly and also a yearly subscription. Is that accurate?

Speaker 11 (36:21):
That is accurate?

Speaker 2 (36:22):
Okay?

Speaker 11 (36:23):
And it's all it's all the other programming on the
network as well. But yes, primarily the LI the live broadcaster.
What we know drives drives the viewership.

Speaker 2 (36:33):
Well, I would say this, if you got rid of
the A team probably would have some more viewers. I
don't know if that show has done much, but it certainly
has hurt our image here at the radio station. So
I'm just teasing boys, hey, And the best thing is
for someone like me that is a direct TV subscriber,
I get the I get the app as part of
the package.

Speaker 11 (36:49):
Correct, correct, So through your direct TV, your Uverse, Fubo.
We're working closely with Eccinity. We're not quite there with
them yet, but you can log onto Space City Home
Network Plus use your existing linear subscription if you already
get the channel, and you will be able to access
it through through both places, through what you currently have

(37:12):
through your cable and your satellite and also through Space
City Home Network Plus.

Speaker 2 (37:16):
You know, Gretchen, I don't know how many people sports
fans pay attention to and to the sports business side
of things, but I will say the world of television
when it comes to the new TV deal, the NBA
assigned what we're seeing this in other sports, how much
of the local, regional, national stuff really occupies your plate,
and maybe not so much on a day to day basis,

(37:37):
but it feels like it's always a conversation piece with
every sports league, including the NBA right now, about where
the future is when it comes to revenue and distribution
and placement. It feels like this was something that while
it gives you more outlook, it also gives a lot
of people a lot of uncertainty about where to find
games and educating people about such things.

Speaker 11 (37:58):
Yeah, I mean, it's the world of technology and media
is changing super fast and has been over the last
several years. Look as we all all sports are global
and are continuing to grow the NBA, particularly especially our brand.
But at the end of the day, we are at
the Houston Rockets, and we are a hyper local team

(38:21):
and franchise who is you know, very very engaged in
our local community and making sure that everybody who loves
this team has the opportunity to watch it was has
always been our top priority. It took us a little
bit to get everything worked out to be able to
do it in a way that was that was well
done from a technology standpoint, but also that was going

(38:43):
to last for years to come, so that there wouldn't
be multiple changes year over year which you were seeing
in other markets. And we're really fortunate through the Farkida
family and with the partnership with the Astras that we
will have this stable network both on linear and now
now through the streaming ap.

Speaker 7 (38:59):
For a long time.

Speaker 2 (39:00):
What are geographic restrictions as far as within the country
and really within the I mean there's Rockets fans throughout
the world.

Speaker 11 (39:08):
Yeah, so I mean throughout the world, like the way
that not to go down a rabbit hole in terms
of how sports leagues and media rights work. But for
the NBA that the easiest way to describe it as
about one hundred and fifty miles from Houston is the
local territory that Space City Home Network is allowed to
show Rockets games for for baseball, it extends a little

(39:29):
bit more. It extends into Louisiana and Arkansas and a
little bit more into the state, but the territory itself
is the same as what the network is on regular TV,
and then anything outside of that kind of belongs to
the leagues and you can see that in other places.
So if you are a Rockets fan in New York,

(39:50):
this is a local option for fans, So outside of
our territory. You would still need to go to other options,
whether that be League paths or other ways to act.
That's the NBA's broadcast.

Speaker 2 (40:01):
Well that same, Yeah, it does. And I'll say this,
looking at social media today, just a huge sense of
relief because look, gretcha, when when we were growing up,
it was cable over the air and we were lucky
to have cable if we had it. Now you've got
everybody trying different ways to watch television, and you know,
everybody's going to spend their own money, their own way
and what they want to buy and will not buy.
But this now gives the option for people that are like, hey,

(40:22):
I like this particular carrier, but it doesn't carry Rockets
games or Astros games. I'm kind of screwed.

Speaker 11 (40:28):
Yeah, optionality is the best thing. And this provides every
single person that is in Houston and is in our
broadcast territory now has the options to access our games.
Hopefully they choose to do it, but everyone now has
access regardless of what decisions they're making on how they
how they consume media.

Speaker 2 (40:48):
And again, if you are a current cable subscriber, satellite
streaming provided the linear channels will remain on the providers
as they do today. There's no additional charge on that.
It just gives some other folks the options that are
not mainstream, like direct TV or cables folks plan b
So it is again. The website is sc HN plus
dot com or you can go right to the app

(41:10):
stores and available. And you're saying that Apple TV and
Amazon Fire are currently available. Correct.

Speaker 11 (41:17):
Correct, And we're expecting Roku momentarily this week, just technology
stuff that it should be ready fin and then we're
working on others as well.

Speaker 2 (41:28):
Okay, very good, Gretchen. Thank you for the visit and
the congratulations on this service and a lot of folks
can be very happy about it. And we will see
you tonight for the game against the Kings.

Speaker 11 (41:36):
Thank you. And please don't post bikini pictures.

Speaker 2 (41:38):
That's not going to happen, Gretcha under any circumstance. Thank
you very much for the safe those are for the
private reel. That's enough from you. Thank you, Thank you, Gretchen,
appreciate you. You heard her, she doesn't want to see them.
You said you were going to post them. I said,
I don't imagine I count if I did, though, don't
even m bring that up your block count Stop ten

(42:01):
fifty eight of The Bout Tammy's Show at Ross. Oh,
you're right, I did. It's totally my fault seven one
three two, one two five seven ninety seven one three two,
one two five seven nine zero. We got to shut
your bumb ass up a half an hour. I think
I want to tell myself to ship my bum ass
that we should think have been l Ffinity to shut
their bumb ass up. I didn't want to ask her
because I don't know if you know it's private negotiations,

(42:21):
but it'll I need that app on Expinity. It's all
gonna happen.

Speaker 12 (42:25):
Spiny's.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
I was getting fights with everybody though. Can we all
just get along? No, they don't because they all want
more money, more billions and millions and millions and millions.
Come on, Infinity, now let's go. We have We're happy
with you. You okay, okay? Did you have to eat
some molasses?

Speaker 1 (42:44):
Just now? Is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.

Speaker 2 (42:53):
SB and U is looking for some serious programming. They're
playing a game between Yukon women in South Florida from yesterday.
It's five minutes up to go in the second quarter,
and you kind of lead South Florida fifty four to
twenty one. You couldn't find something better than that to
put on. You can women back on top. He's for
right now. Yeap used to be better for a while,

(43:14):
LSU for a while. You know who's number two? After
beating two top three teams in one week? Is it
Ryan with the University of Mexus. Hook them one? Let's go, babe,
at least something. That's what I'm saying, Like, it's not
that bad. By the way, women's basketball on TV. I've
watched women volleyball final four. This is good stuff. They're

(43:36):
gonna be going yeah, yeah, Look, my football team's not
going to the playoff, but you're going to the Reason Bowl. Apparently.
Chee at Citrus Bowl. I think, yeah, that's that's the
against Michigan. Maybe. Okay, my take on this because we
don't you hate when I feel here we go. I
think cheeseus are disgusting. I don't like cheese its. I
agree with you, thank you. I don't think they're disgusting.
Like I'll if they put a bowl of cheese it's

(43:58):
out and you're like, have some I guess I'll have somebody.
It's not going to be I'm not going to purchase them.
I'd have to be like gaunt to eat them. Oh,
you'd be like dying, not dying, but it would be
it just first of all, anybody, okay, yeahs okay, Yeah,
Gordy liked him because we were talking about cheeses yesterday

(44:18):
and we know Adam Planton loves them. Yeah, he's also
his palate's a ridiculously worse than mine. Oh it is.
He doesn't like ranch dressing or sour cream or anything
worse than yours than he's work to do. Mister, try
tip over brisket. I didn't say, and you know I
did say that.

Speaker 7 (44:38):
You did.

Speaker 3 (44:38):
You know why? You know why? I like it?

Speaker 2 (44:40):
Tender, smoked, delicious, flavorful. You could overcook a try tip.
It's impossible you overcook a brisket. It tastes like a
shoe overcooked brisket. Yeah, because some people do the most part.
It takes twelve hours. That's worth. Let's move on. Let's
move on, all right, I'm trying to help you. It's funny.

(45:03):
You know you're losing you're losing credibility with the Texas streets.
Let me tell you the streets say mister Texas the
great heavy, but that's not true. Yes they are. I
tried to save you quite often on this show. Save
you right now. I don't think put the put the
try tip take on the back burner. I don't bring
that up in this state. Just don't you know what.
Let's go, let's go, let's go sit down with some

(45:24):
tri tip and briskety. People like man this, we don't.
People just don't need to try tip here. It's more
of a Western thing for summer reason. All right, let's
move on.

Speaker 3 (45:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (45:32):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety. If
you want to join us, one chicken, you're making me hungry. Gosh,
I'm sorry during the show, I know it's fine. Seven
one three two one two five seven ninety. Bro We
mentioned Rockets and Kings. Tonight, Texans are on the practice
field taking on the uh Kannasy Chiefs. It's be great.
We haven't had to really worry about an injury report

(45:53):
for quite some time. Remember last week it was whether
or not h Jalen Peatree and c J striveward and
clear concussion product all that. That's been a big part
of I mean, it is a big part of why
I pick the Texans to upset the Colts last week,
and why I'm very confident against them against anybody, Like,
if you have this defense fully healthy, they can slow

(46:17):
down anybody. And now the offense is picking up, it's
getting a little bit better. Woodie Mark is playing better.
You've got some I mean, Jadon Higgins has been making
more plays, and Dalton Schultz has come along. And that
offensive line, Matthew twenty first I saw, Oh you did?
Do you see today's though?

Speaker 6 (46:36):
No?

Speaker 2 (46:37):
Is it getting into the teams? It's gotta because you're
obviously smiling. Who told you the offensive line was going
to improve as the season went along? Who told you that,
matt uh does he still work here? Yes he does.
He's sitting right across from you with a smiling face.
Jonathan's not smiling right now, He's not sitting across from Okay, Yeah,

(46:58):
it's look, it's it's coming together. And again, how much
of that is it vastly improve? How much of it
is in progression by others? It doesn't really matter. You're
judged by who you go against. Eighteenth the Texans offensive line. Okay,
I never thought I'd be rable to party in the
streets if we have bitched and moaned about the eighteenth

(47:18):
best offensive line. Imagine how there are thirteen worst ones? Yes,
and I want them and will believe. I believe it
will be the one we see on Sunday. Correct, it's
in Kansas City, considered a below average offensive line. Let
me look, because they're not happy up there in Kansas City.
But well, really, now I remember it's pro football focused.

(47:41):
As we always say, it's just one metri, it's one
data point, and they do spend more time. And we
do agree that we thought they were virgins of a large part,
but we've come to find out they're all pooon hounds
after Actually, I don't know why that is relevant to
their football acumen. Well it really isn't. But it's just
it's not at all. It's a conversation. You fixate on it,

(48:02):
and that's okay for whatever reason. Well, because I when
I want to get analysis from my life about a
variety things, I want, well run the people. I don't
want guys just staring in computers all day long. Guys
who are staring at computers are running all of these
sports leagues, not very well some of them. Okay, Sometimes
sometimes the human eye were every NFL, every NFL, Major

(48:22):
League Baseball, an NBA team has an analytics department. Yes
they do, but some believe in the seeing eye test too,
And I'm all for that. I am. I am not
going to ever go away from seeing eye and seeing
I says. The Texans offensive line has kept t J.
Strout up right? Okay? And did Davis Mills solid times
of seeing eye lies? Maddie? Like when? Like when when
Chris Gordy sees Lane Kiffin get hired to LSU, he's

(48:43):
the best. And wait if the seeing I saw him
go to Florida, he'd be a douchebag? Should we sus
spend Gordy for horrific takes? He came in here all
upset for those who don't know. When I look about
my Lane Kiffin takes and we'll see Lane Kiffin can
win at LSU. I'm not saying he's he's horrible. You
get players, and you get a good play call, you
can win.

Speaker 7 (49:02):
Something.

Speaker 2 (49:03):
I don't feel right. Something's rotten in Denmark. Well, uh,
first of all, he has a pattern of this. Second
of all, you don't believe a word he says. Did
you see the comments from yesterday? How about him being
worn outside of the road or well that but also
I don't know what my contract is here. That's a lie, Rossie.

(49:24):
We've been doing the show since twenty ten. How many
times do I tell you about the average person lying?
And Franklin Sports is higher. It's okay. It's okay to
lie because as long as you uh makes it sound good,
people tend to believe you. I gotta lie here on
the show all the time. Yeah, I believe that, and
people find it to be rather believable. U politicians, some

(49:45):
of your bs is unbelievable. H Like, I don't like
mac and cheese. Guess what we had so Thanksgiving me
mac and cheese was in the kiddy section because that's
what kids eat on that macan on thanksgi delicious. Well,
we didn't have mac and cheese at my Thanksgiving. Actually
were supposed to tear up. I had mashed potatoes, corn
bread dressing, corn rocli rice castlerab fantastic. Let's go just

(50:09):
carve it up. Green bean. There was a green bean
cast roll off at my Thanksgiving. Got contentious. Okay, not
to over indulge on this, but green beans, mushroom soup
and fart onions. What else we're going with here? One bacon, yes,
and one one had fresh blanched green beans, which is

(50:31):
I voted for that one to win. The other one
was cand of green beans with that fresh green bean taste. Matt,
It's all good to me, just as long as see
this is your Fault'm getting hungry. As long as there
is at least if you know the French on onions
is not a green bean cast role. I agree. Okay, okay,
one more college thing before. I love this show because

(50:51):
there are guys who've been left and writing college football,
and most of them, you guys don't care about recruits,
are coaches coaches. So by the way, Dove Claus Colin
Klein is leaving A and M's offensive cornators about this
that happening, I think it's pretty much the deal, which
is no surprise. Colin Klein was defined a coach at
Kansastate because he played football there. He beat Texas Colleenie Sataki,

(51:12):
and I know him a little bit because he has
been a long time coach at b YU. He's been
there a while, long long time. He was seriously in
the mix and maybe was the favorite for even a
short period of time, at least when I was in
Salt Lake a couple days ago to take over at
Penn State. Now BYU is an excellent job. BYU is recently,
just like University Houston, entered the P four category huge crowds.

(51:35):
They got some big donors, large national band base. The
chairman of the board of Crumble Cookies is a devout
BYU fan, so you know there's money there. But as
we talked about last hour, maybe going off of legacy
doesn't matter because Penn State and BYU are not in
the same category when it comes to the legacy of

(51:56):
football programs. Colleenie Sataki told Penn State things, but thinks
I'm gonna stay hmm. He got to reup it, b
why you right going? So he did and that and
endless chocolate chip cookies for the rest of his life.
Penn State is getting turned down by a lot of people.
Penn State is not as big. It's funny. They're they're

(52:18):
kind of finding out they're not as big as deal
as they thought they were. You know why, because off
of a little bit of legacy here. Yeah, they're the
third best team year in and year on the Big Ten.
And that doesn't mean as much that used to. It's
like when you become single and you go on dating apps,
you're like, man, I'm gonna pulling all these nines and tents,
and then you're like, I'm not, this is not going
the way I thought it would. You're getting rejected by
four exactly. That's what's happening in a pencil. You tell

(52:40):
me there are men out there in this world that
drop their girlfriend and say, I'm getting on app so
I can get me a nine or ten. Mm hmm, Yeah,
I don't want to meet that person. It's Penn State,
you know what? Because even what's the guy's name is,
James Franklin's those seven it leaves maybe at eight, and
he'll Penn State recruits are not going there apparently. Yes,

(53:02):
So don't sleep on vain Virginia. Technically sometimes you do.
You don't know what you got till it's gone. Penn State.
I feel like a song you could write about that. Yes, yeah.
So who's the guy at the Nebraska that was at
Baylor two and with the krolln the Panthers, I'm I'm
drawing a name blank on their head. Coach at Nebraska,
Matt Rule. Matt Ruhle Matt Rule, Nope, don't need Penn State.

(53:26):
Uh what's his face? Lane to even think about going
up there. He's like, I'm not going north. No, It's
pretty incredible how Penn State is mid. I mean one
hundred thousand people every game, you know when they play
like Akron. This is the guy that propped them up.
James Franklin came in there. They got you dressing nice,

(53:46):
cut your fingernails, got you some new cologne, correct, got
you looking good, and then you try to dump dump
them for the next big thing. Yes, and turns out
James Franklin was the one propping you up. Yeah. Yeah,
it's incredible. I think we're we're going to see now
in the next five years, and it'll be it'll be
pensate this year, maybe other jobs down the road that

(54:07):
you may not be as sexy as you think you
are because of Nil Vandermilt keeping quarterback Vanderbilt relevant Vanderbilt
five years ago, Ross, I remember Unit even having a
conversation about this, Why bother, why are you doing this?
Why are you in the sports? You don't mean? It
felt like to me Rice Vanderbilt was closer to Rice
Vanderbilt's closer now to LSU. And in Florida, that's crazy

(54:28):
in Georgia. Yeah, well, well, speaking of of Florida, didn't the
job search didn't go the way they wanted arks Apparently
Arkansas fans are like one in a stage of protest.
They already did. Oh they did. They're not gonna let
a YouTube live feed. We can't have this happen. Yeah,
where everybody in college football thinks they're bigger than they are.
Everyone Arkansas football what seventh in the SEC every year? Maybe? Yeah,

(54:52):
we're the Hogs. We got national championships, yeah in nineteen
seventy one and Ken Hafilly walking in through those doors tomorrow.
I'm saying it's a little but the friend of great
Arkansas player of all time, Greg Cook, mcfatt, Aaron McFadden.
Hellis God? Who is good Arkansas? Great football players? I'm

(55:13):
sure there are plenty, but probably I don't know. Let's stop,
we don't think about it. I want to keep what
audience we have left. Eleven fifteen of The Matt Thomas
Show with Ross l It's Alworth, Steve Atwater. Yeah, you're
talking Fryan Mallett fifty ooh not Ryan Mallet fifty years ago. Yeah,
you to you know what Arkansas is and soth Calin
are about the same.

Speaker 3 (55:33):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (55:33):
Jerry Jones eleven and twenty one, And am here on
Sports Talk seven ninety Matt Thomas Show with Ross with
Matt Thomas. We got the news at noon, coming up

(55:54):
at you guessed it noon? We got ain't No body
got time for that last shut Joe bumass up coming
up at eleven thirty. You folks can get in for that.
It's seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven ninety And
it just seems increasingly, year after year we're talking more

(56:16):
and more about college football, and it's more and more
about things that are happening off the field rather than
on the field with college football, and that kind of
makes it more interesting, I would say in theory, because
we talk about this with Matt Thomas or other people
off air, that that people do like college football talk
and they do want to talk college football. But it

(56:37):
can be difficult here in Houston to where if you
spend a few minutes on the Longhorns and Aggies are
getting upset, you spend a few minutes on the Aggies
Long Horns are getting upset, and it's Texas Tech. Then
there's you of Age, and there's Baylor, then there's national
big picture, You've got LSU fans. I mean, it's such
a big melting pot here in Houston, Texas that it went.
Unless you're making big overarching talk about rankings and the

(57:01):
playoff and those types of things, it's it's tough to
get into the nuts and bolts of college football. But
we've had more than enough to talk about when it
comes to kind of just the state of the union,
when it comes to what's going on with these coaches
and the ecosystem that's ever changing as we were talking

(57:21):
about earlier, like Vanderbilt. Now we're not sure yet because
apparently the recruit has gone back on what he said
on his Twitter, but it was reported that that Vanderbilt
was flipping the number one college quarterback recruit from Georgia.
If I'd have plopped you from a time machine or
you woke up from a twenty year coma and I said,

(57:43):
the number one quarterback in the country is flipping from
Georgia to Vanderbilt, you would have been you would have
been like, what are you talking about?

Speaker 6 (57:51):
You.

Speaker 2 (57:51):
You would have called me a liar. There's no way
you would believe what I'm saying five years ago. Yeah,
and right now I don't believe it, but I do.
I do, but I don't because Vanderbilt has been very
good the last couple of years. Everybody is made again.
You would have told me two years ago Texas Tech
can have a great defense. Like whatever, that's another good
one stop and il money spins. How's Cody Campbell feeling

(58:15):
over there? They're they creeped into the top four? Did
the Texas Tech there? They're they're very everything's going really
well for them. Is Texas Tech gotta win it?

Speaker 3 (58:25):
All?

Speaker 2 (58:27):
I know Red Raider fans won't care. How are gonna
feel about that? Camp's going to the game this week?
Oh he is? Yes? Where is it? Dallas Arlington? Okay,
that's cool? Yeah Tech by I want to crowd's gonna
be like for that because because b y, you will travel.
But do you think about this? There we were, I
was just in Salt Lake City. Yeah, we gotta get

(58:48):
him in the tournament. Like you're not getting the CFPN.
You want to get in CP. You're gonna have to
beat tex Attack. Yeah, because you've got it. Well, if
you're a tech fan, you got to scrounge up ticket
money and bail money seems to be a little difficult.
I wasn't ready for that. I'm sorry. Can you get both?
I wonder what the get in prices for that Red
Raider and a and a b YU fan in the

(59:11):
same stadium. That's interesting. Do you do you think like,
if you're Jerry Wars, you're running Jerry World and you
pay for money for that, don't you want BYU not
to be there? Because then Whyu's not gonna drink? That's
what I'm saying. But they're gonna be, They're gonna eat,
They're gonna they're fat. Everybody's gonna eat. True, that's what
I'm saying. Like you're missing out on alcohol sales. You
have to be if you're hosting the Big twelve championship game,

(59:33):
you have to be praying BYU doesn't make it. But
let me ask you this, if it was Iowa State
who drank, or BYU that doesn't drink. But who's gonna
more people in the stands? I mean, b Y is
gonna travel more than Iowa State with Yeah, I feel
like you spend double at a stadium when you when
you in factor in alcohol. That's funny, that's a that's
a great question. What I wonder what privately the Big

(59:54):
twelve office was thinking when they had b YU at
that game. Oh, it looks like you can get in
for one hundred and thirty. It's not bad. I could
go if I wanted to. I don't know, get in
at A and M Texas ended at because I already
already secured tickets, so I stopped checking. But the middle
of the week it was three fifty to get in.

(01:00:15):
That's all second, very much. Yeah, uh yeah, it looks
like it's about one fitty. One fitty can get you in.
But that's good. I mean, I've never been to the
stadium for a game. I've been inside it, but not
for the stadium for a game. Let's be super high
up right. I've been there for a boxing match, and
I've been there for high school football, like working, but
inside the state. Don't you want up spending one fifty
to stare at the screen for three and a half hours. Yeah,

(01:00:37):
that's what happened to us in the box. The our
our tickets for the boxing match. We had decent second
level seats and they were like I think two fifty
three hundred at the time, and we just it was
a box. It's also a boxing ring. It's small, right.
We stared at the screen the whole time. I was like,
we waste our mind. It's almost like when you go
to concerts, I want up capt doing myself, you know,
if you're in the upper levels of a I try

(01:00:59):
not to do that. I was. I went and saw
Paul McCartney at Dicky's Arena in right and fourth, the
three war seats in the entire building we had, and
I spent the time looking at the screen. I know,
I think I'm done with conscious for the most part,
for the most part, for the most part. Okay, yeah,
because I mean all your faves are dead or dying.

(01:01:19):
They're dead or dying or can't speak anymore. Yeah, you
know that's you know, that's good you you not you
sticking to the seventies and music is gonna save you
money in the long term. Uh yeah, because I'm not
gonna go see eighty five year old saying anymore. Paul
McCartney doesn't sound like Paul McCartney anymore. He doesn't and
by the way, like he had some big verbato voice vibratos.

(01:01:40):
I was in a Salt Lake for those two Rocket
Jazz games. And you know, Journey's last tourist going on again.
Everybody's on their last tour for the fifth time. Yeah,
I'm I'm sorry, and I'm sure the lead singer is
a very nice person and he's been doing it for
a long period of time. Huh, but it no good.
I'm not gonna go pay crazy money to see Journey
without Steve Perry there. It's just not gonna happen. Yes,

(01:02:01):
he is Journey, he is. I'm sorry, and I know
he's been going a long time. And I've stomached it
because my wife wanted to go see Deaf Leopard when
they were a Journey one time. Uh huh. So you
sucked it up and listened to Journey for half an hour.
Journey's good, they have hits, but it's just not the same.
You're right, Steve Perry makes the band, but him in

(01:02:22):
the band in forever he's going. I want to see
Queen without Freddie Mercury. I did see that and it
turned out really well. I was very pleasantly surprised about that. Okay,
I've seen journey with the new with this guy and
I yea, no thanks, okay. So back to Vanderbilt. So
back to Vanderbilt doing well, number number number one quarter
or number two quarterback, depending on what Texas. At least
I had a Vanderbilt who they beat head to head,

(01:02:45):
and I head of Oklahoma who they beat head to head.
That's fine. I was looking at the computer ranking. Computers
really like Notre Dame in recruiting are in general? Oh
why is that of the play? I don't know, because
they're non conference. Some people we were talking about this
yesterday with mister locked on SEC about bringing back a

(01:03:07):
computer element. I think you should. I think human element
is opening too many biases. I think there should be
some sort of computer element. I just don't know how
you how many people? How big is the CFP committee?
Is it twelve people? I have no idea, but whatever,
they're somewhere around the four, six, eight ten. It's hard
to get unanimous views on anything. No, you can't get
twelve people to decide where they're gonna go eat, much

(01:03:28):
less decide on who the twelve best teams are and
what older they put him in? Thirteen member committee. I mean,
I'll say this if they've gotten the tournaments excuse me,
the NCAA tournament, right for the most part basketball wise, yeah,
for the most part. And if you're it's the fringe.
Like when Buzz Williams was was it last year? He
was like he was standing out stat sheets and crying

(01:03:50):
at the podium when him didn't make it in Oh wait,
all that was bluster from last week. That was just bluster,
right he was. I mean, you don't believe half what
he was saying. You know, the lobby for your team,
and he made I mean, if you're only talking about
the positive points, he makes a good case. If you're
you know, when you're only stumping one guy and there's

(01:04:11):
nobody there to counteract what you're saying, you can make
good points, like the points are three top ten you'd
want to reward. You don't want to discourage teams from
from uh from scheduling big non conference matchups all that stuff,
But the bottom line is go win more. I would
say this if I was Texas to wrap this up
in don't get rid of these series games you've already

(01:04:33):
got scheduled. But if you want to go a little
more conservative with your future scheduling. I don't necessarily the
rest of the schedule was San Jose, utep in Sam Houston.
It's not like they were running a gauntlet. You can
do one out of four games Ohio State and when
you schedule years and years ago, if you brought to
your audience, take care of your take care of your
fan base. Yes, yes, my brother is a season ticket holder.

(01:04:57):
Next year, Ohio State is the marquee game on the
slate and it's not even close out of that. The
next biggest game is like Florida. I mean, I can
bring up the home slate. It's not good. Well, I
gotta come to Houston and catch some markets.

Speaker 3 (01:05:09):
Again.

Speaker 2 (01:05:09):
It's always going to be the case with it when
it comes to Texas and OU because Texas OU is
always in Dallas. That's a that's always a marquee huge
matchup and that's always going to be in in Dallas. So,
I mean it kind of is what it is all right.
Time for you to tell some people to shut their
bumb asses up. You want to do it, Yes, you
got some things that are that are on your uh horn,

(01:05:30):
fans to shut their bumb asses up. I'm okay with them.
Somebody could no. I'm actually all right. Look we just
you got your passionate about your fanily. I don't get
lectured anymore. Who's luxuring you are? Horn fans not not
getting on you yet? Probably that's not nice you only
you don't need one message board? Piss off at you
at one time? Seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven

(01:05:51):
ninety It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross shut
your bull mass up. Ain't nobody got time for that?
Is next at again, dear dear again here a get
deer let again Tampaday, eleven thirty five on Sports Talk

(01:06:12):
seven ninety Matt Ross with you here, Jonathan our producer.
Great to have all of you with us today. I'm
giving away my rocket tickets in the noon hour. What
could I possibly ask them at noon to give away
those rocket tickets? Hmmm? Got one idea?

Speaker 3 (01:06:28):
I know?

Speaker 2 (01:06:29):
Turn think of another one? Okay? Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety Ain't nobody got time for that?
What in your life has irritated you? Does something happen
at Thanksgiving that pissed you off? Let's go No, you're
gonna tell somebody to shut their bumbasses up, We're here
for you. Seven one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven ninety

(01:06:50):
If there's somebody at the office that brought up his
wife's future colonoscopy, what, yes, respectfully, I hate Nobody got
time for that. Nobody get time for wishing her the best.

(01:07:13):
Of course I was not hoping for bad results, but
colonoscopies are a tough conversation piece. To begin with your
spouse's colonoscopy probably not on my wish list of conversation topics.

(01:07:37):
I will keep that person's name out. Oh, I have
a very good guess. I believe you get one guess
in one guess only, and you would be absolutely correct.
Now that I find out she's having it. It's her
first one. That's not one for the thumb. That's good.

(01:08:03):
I just don't know like I've I've had one in
my life. I'm due for one, probably pretty soon. Here
not gonna be a huge part of the conversation on
this radio show. My personal life, my profession, and keep
it to myself. I would hope that you'd respect my
decision on that ross. Thank you, Matt. All right, John Jonathan,

(01:08:25):
what's the matter with you this week? Anything not that
I can deal act. I think I'm you know what
it is. I think we got it. It's the holidays.
I think we're just generally speaking nicer. Go ahead, Aggie's fans. Oh,
here we go, let's go with the cope. Okay, Oh
this is Texas is super Bowl. We lost. We don't care,

(01:08:48):
We're moving on. We only lost because it was Texas
a super Bowl. Shut Joe baumass up and spent all
your money and came to the stadium, and you're all invested,
and it was a big game, and it's a rivalry game.
Texas was hosting the number three team in the country
looking for their last sliver of hope to get into

(01:09:08):
the college football playoff, and of course it was a
rivalry game. Don't even try to cope by saying, oh, well,
this was all Texas cared about was bing and m Yeah.
They wanted to win a big game against the top
five team and they won it. And you're trying to
cope with the lost by going, well, the only one
because it was their Super Bowl. Shut you out, bumb
ass up shit, obum ass up man, take your l

(01:09:34):
if you're an Aggie fan making up excuses. You do
have to shut your bumb ass up. Is all over
Twitter Street. You are going to the playoff, congratu and
you just speculations and you deserve it and selfishly because
of my son and his freed mental state when they lose.
I want them to win the national championship. But you're
not gonna get over the little brother syndrome until you

(01:09:57):
had beat the big bro, and you gotta beat him.
I'm paper you were a better football team than Texas
was on the field, different animals, d k R, weve, boisterous,
let's go. I lost my voice. Now can I say
to those Texas fans that are losing their mind because
their squad's not on the top twelve, shut your bow
mass up. I've done it man, I just said that

(01:10:21):
for both of us. I don't want I don't I
don't need hornsfans dot com coming out of watching hard
Shaggy Bevo's coming after you?

Speaker 3 (01:10:28):
Is that?

Speaker 2 (01:10:28):
Is that one of the people on there. It used
to be Shaggy Bevo, but then Steve Patterson when he
was a d got that shut down. Even though it
was a message board for years. I think now it's
Shaggy Texas or I don't even know if it's still
around Shaggy Bevo. Yeah, what do you do for a living?
I write for shaggybvo dot com. Hey, it was good,

(01:10:50):
Wesley lane Kiff and not saying you don't know how
much money you're making up? That is terrible, just terrible. Wait,
hold on, we're forgetting something for anybody that thinks try tip,
try tip is better than brisky. Oh that mass up man.
You can't be mister Texas and call try tip better
than brisket. Yeah, you're right, tass up. We'll go have

(01:11:15):
dinner and some tr tip. You're like, damn, is this
something juicy?

Speaker 3 (01:11:18):
Good?

Speaker 2 (01:11:18):
I've had it in California? Yeah, I had it in Utah.
It was delicious. Did it come with a kale salad toast?

Speaker 6 (01:11:29):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:11:30):
He has some Brussels sprouts? Right it wass Yeah? I
don't hate on brustl sprouts. That's when the saute a
little bacon in them. Delicious?

Speaker 3 (01:11:39):
All right? Uh?

Speaker 2 (01:11:40):
Seven one three two one two five seven nine zero.
Let's go to Ray. Ray, what's the matter with you?

Speaker 13 (01:11:50):
Just one thing spoils radio Guys get paid to talk
about sports, and they get to the point where they
think they know everything. And for Cold to say, no, no,
I'm serious, man, And for Cole to say that Denico
didn't know what the hell he was doing. Cole, shut
your bumb ass up. You talk too fast, you talk
too much. Shut your bumb ass up. Until you start

(01:12:11):
coaching a Pop Warner League or a college or NFL team.
You should never see an NFL coach don't know what
he's doing.

Speaker 3 (01:12:17):
Cole.

Speaker 13 (01:12:17):
That doesn't make any sense. And I wish you would
stop talking so fast and talking so much. I just
don't get it.

Speaker 2 (01:12:25):
Shit, So bum ass up, man, Well, I just don't
get us. Tomorrow, weekday six to ten right here on
Sports the Morning Drive with Damn Matthews and Cole Thompson
in we call it room radio zoomsoom room zoomers. Nobody
got if you call him to the Morning Driver, you
a driver. I think they are the two youngest hosts
on the station. Yeah, but they're both well. Dan's old, okay, wow,

(01:12:50):
out of shape? Matt what he's getting in better shape
with Centergenics, t r T MVP dot com. Okay, look good?
Dropping weight is how much? Wait did he drop that's
a question for him. I didn't. I didn't check his skate.
Would you like to guess? No, okay, I'll put in
the four to five pound range t R T and

(01:13:12):
VP dot com. All right, is this is this line one?

Speaker 6 (01:13:15):
James?

Speaker 2 (01:13:16):
Do We already had James on the show. Yeah, he
had asked me if you go again? Well, I love
to if is he if he's gonna tell Matt to
shut his bull mess up? I say yes, all right,
this is probably coming my way in three two one, James.
What's the matter with you?

Speaker 3 (01:13:28):
James?

Speaker 8 (01:13:30):
The crowd was too hostile.

Speaker 7 (01:13:31):
Day went into the Big House and beat Michigan. Shut
your ballass up, Elcho, shut to mess up man.

Speaker 2 (01:13:39):
Very good, Thank you very much for that. It didn't
get out. Probably I'm worried about Mike Elko to he
he's I don't need a fat shame here, but God
bless it. He doesn't look healthy. Mike Elko, Yeah, he
been gaining weight. I didn't, He's always been heavy. I
saw him was very upset. When did you see the
video of him getting upset when the door got opened
at the fest? Up to that Stewart Man, Stewart Mandel

(01:14:02):
from size like I'm the one that opened the door,
opened the door. He thought he had already started, I mean,
hadn't started. Yeah, that's gonna happen quite a bit, I
think in press conference atmosphere. I mean I guesse. Remember
press conference is now not they most of the mainstream
media doesn't don't go anymore. It's the fringe media. It's
the people that think they're media. It's the college fan sites,

(01:14:25):
it's the students that are in the class. I mean
even at U of H games a seventy five percent
of the media that attend UH press conference or students
or of Cougar fan dot net or whatever the hell
it is. So we just we just didn't teach people.

Speaker 3 (01:14:39):
We didn't.

Speaker 2 (01:14:39):
There are some untrained professionals. There are a lot of
and there's some actually, frankly the Texans and let media
in there that aren't media. And that's another issue, but
that's a different issue for a different time. We've just
lost the training of professional meets. I mean I went
to college, I learned, I made my mistakes, and I
also learned my mistakes being young and broadcasting and doing
knowing what to do and not to do. I unfortunately

(01:15:01):
still make those mistakes here at eleven forty four. You're
doing great, Matt. We're on Friday, are you sure? Yes,
I don't think. I am very proud of me now
most of us all right, thank you, Uh, Joe, Mike
and Case. So we'll get to you in no matter moment.
It's eleven forty four on Sports Talk seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety. If you
want to chime in seven one three two one two

(01:15:21):
five seven ninety and if you're on Twitter, I want
to follow us there. We'd love to have you at
sports Empty at Sports RB eleven fifty one on Sports
Talk seven ninety It's Matt at Ross with you. The

(01:15:42):
news at noon is coming up. We'll give you an
update of what's happening on signing days. The University of
Houston is kicking ass. Really number one quarterback in the
country this year's class. You're welcome. Cut that chip. I
don't care. Look, we gotta cut shakes. I don't know
where it's coming from, but I can't afford it. That's
great Willie Fritz, great coach, as I've always said, great

(01:16:03):
hire for the University of Houston. Contract. By the way,
three hundred and fifty thousand dollars in bonuses since they
got the nine wins. That's good. Pay the man. Let's
go Longhorn seventh and national recruiting class. That's not great,
it's fine. You were talking about the said these are
DAMA doesn't CAU below standard. So if it's not top five,

(01:16:25):
you don't want to hear about it. I didn't say that.
I don't want to hear about it. Say it's a
below standard. Last year was number one. Let's see what
was year before? Well, number one? With your schedule next
year four number six, never mind, it'll be fine. Tough
schedule next year. Yeah, we run Ohio State. I mean,
of course owe you every year, A and M every

(01:16:46):
year at LSU at tennessee oh Baby LSU two the kippin.
Of course, this year hopefully not a massive failure. A
year like this year was a massive failure. It was
not a massive failure. It was playoff massive failure. Didn't
win the championship, massive failure. Now again, as I will
stand by if you don't go to nasial championship three

(01:17:06):
years with disappointment, the massive disappointment, yep, not failure, disappoint
massive failure. Nope, thispoinment. Let's go to Mike on seven
out of eleven fifty three. Mike, good morning, do you
what's the matter with you?

Speaker 6 (01:17:19):
Good?

Speaker 3 (01:17:19):
Thank you.

Speaker 8 (01:17:21):
I'm going to Kansas City. I'm here getting ready to
watch Chiefs play. I want to play the back this weekend.
I uh, I haven't made the beginning, but it's Land
the guy who suggested that we have a little back
controversy and was convinced. And I also have the same

(01:17:44):
conversation with somebody that I thought was a happy to
tell but stuck your bumb mass up.

Speaker 2 (01:17:51):
There you go. I'll let you go there because you
got a little bit of a warbly line there. I
think it's not us and that you said somebody with
a quarterback controversy. Yeah, here people try to create quarterback controversy. Yeah,
I know they should shut their bumbasses up. And you
know what, I got one now nowadays. Just reminded me sure.
I jokingly said after the Texans game, well, Davis Mills

(01:18:12):
would have won this game with three hundred and seventy
five yards and four touchdowns. If you do not have
the mental capacity to realize that is sarcasm. You number
one you're an idiot. And number two, some guy said
this is blockable, and then he blocked me, And I
was like, you're so stupid that you can't realize I'm
being sarcastic, and then you block me. So I can't

(01:18:33):
just say, hey, jackass, this is a sarcastic comment. You
don't have the mental capacity to pick up on this.
You shut joebomass up, shit, Joe bum ass up. Man.
You know I'm talking about doing How is that not
obviously sarcastic? We should get sponsored Today's Who's blocked you
of the day? I mean, has Davis Mills thrown for
three hundred and seventy five yards and four touchdowns in
his career? I'm gonna say no, Like, there are people

(01:18:59):
out there Twitter that have blocked me, I have no
I have never met them a day of my life.
I have no idea who they are. Yeah, so shout
out to those of you that have blocked me. Yeah,
Mills has never thrown for four touchdowns. He's never thrown
for three even three hundred and fifty yards. It's very
clearly a joke. But they're not. There's Davis Mills truthers
out there. Oh yeah, there's some people were actually agreeing

(01:19:20):
with my tweet, like, yeah, I know, that's though. Those
people need to shut their bum asses to Toomi, I
was typing that tweet. I was like, this is yeah,
this is enough people to know this is sarcasm. Four touchdowns,
three seventy five and and idiots didn't pick up What
have you figured out that on Twitter? I know, I'm
you know what, I'll shut my bumb ass up exactly

(01:19:41):
for giving people too much. Man, now I'm shutting you
my mass up. Trying to be sarcastic. Yeah, my bad
in my DNA though. Okay, so what's the matter with you?

Speaker 3 (01:19:51):
All right?

Speaker 8 (01:19:51):
Can you hear me?

Speaker 3 (01:19:52):
All right?

Speaker 2 (01:19:52):
Yes, sir?

Speaker 14 (01:19:54):
Okay, So Matt, as you know, I may have forgotten.
I work here at the one full university of from
main campus. I work in it and part of my
job is to help those in my department get new computers.
So that's just a small part of my job. We

(01:20:14):
get a new employee and I'm setting them up with
one of our standard laptops. He tells me that he
wants a new laptop. I go, all right, well let
me go give me replace an order. So replace an order,
I showed him to INVOYE. I go, hey, yeah, I
got your new laptop to be coming in whenever he

(01:20:35):
comes to me. He says, I do not like this laptop.
But I don't like this laptop. I think it's too
big and I want it to be smaller.

Speaker 3 (01:20:44):
I said, well, we already.

Speaker 14 (01:20:46):
Placed the order. I'm I'm sorry. Something I do.

Speaker 8 (01:20:50):
He goes, well, I.

Speaker 14 (01:20:51):
Reached out to the purchasing department. I told him to
cancel the order I don't want. He goes, yeah, I
did this on Friday. This was he was telling me
this on a Thursday. So almost a week later, I'm
looking back at the envoy and sure enough, there it
is canceled. So what I say to you for doing that,
for going on my back, going behind its back and

(01:21:13):
thinking that what you know is better shows up. Man,
take the computer, bro with the work computer.

Speaker 2 (01:21:22):
Yeah, be happy that you get at work computer. I'm
I believe I got one. You know, Casey might have
the best. Such a bumb mass up. Ever, like weave
by week, do you know what they're they're They're real,
they come from his heart, they come with passion, and
usually you don't ever go man. I kind of sided
with with the other person. That's crazy. Good for you
went behind his back and canceled the order his free

(01:21:46):
work laptop. That's crazy. I got wild people out there.
Can I tell you a little bit of a hot take?
Go ahead in case so you're there. The exception, there
are a lot of people in central campuses of of
schools around this country that have horrendous communication and real
life skills, Like the professors that I had when I

(01:22:07):
was at the University of Houston. I love you, of age,
but they never dealt in reality. It's like college professors,
and this could happen in every school in this country.
They get in their little college of whatever, and they
don't They stick their head in their books, or they
stick their head in research, or they only talk to
their fellow professors. But they have no sense of real life.

(01:22:30):
Out of touch. They're completely out of touch. Not to
go holl on otes on you, but they're out of touch.
So and I would like to see today's professors at
every institution around this country be a little more human,
a little more you know, with the with the times. Okay,
I don't know why I brought that up, but I

(01:22:51):
apologized professors. I didn't have an issue with anybody. But
I also with several of them because I was in
the business learn I was literally in radio. And this
one professor, I will mention his name, doctor Musburger, insisted
on using a turntable as part of our audio production class.
I said, it is nineteen ninety six. We are not

(01:23:12):
using turntables anymore. Yeah, but we sused to use the
finan the nuances of it. No, no nuances of it.
It's not being used anymore. As far as you're not
making he's using your aid track I had. I had
major issues. Oh Aileen. One professor that I liked in college,
and he's this is like a nineteen ninety five. He's like,

(01:23:32):
you know what, guys, this is something you guys are
gonna love. It's gonna be called HDTV, and it's gonna
change the way you watch television.

Speaker 9 (01:23:39):
And he was right.

Speaker 2 (01:23:41):
I remember the first time I saw seven twenty P
I thought I was looking through a window. When I
saw the whites of people's eyes on TV, I was like,
this is incredible. He's like, kids like Jonathan Doners, you
feel so young right now? Yeah, you are young? Whoa
seven twenty don't waste the youth. Youth is wa you
were born with ten eighty weren't you?

Speaker 3 (01:23:58):
No no, no, no no?

Speaker 2 (01:24:01):
And Betty tails and re details vegg details. I haven't
heard that in a while.

Speaker 3 (01:24:07):
I haven't either.

Speaker 2 (01:24:07):
Let's go quickly, got a couple more to get to.
Joseph and Lake Jackson. Joseph, what's the matter with you?

Speaker 7 (01:24:13):
How you doing just to do a bum ass story?

Speaker 2 (01:24:15):
Here?

Speaker 15 (01:24:16):
Uh this background. I work with a bunch of haggies.
I mean a lot of haggies. I made seven different
bets for that game.

Speaker 6 (01:24:23):
And all of the bet was.

Speaker 15 (01:24:25):
One of the bets was at the end of every day,
we have a meeting of work and you close the
meeting out and this guy was supposed to say hook him.
Instead he gives us a timid lecture about how Beevio
got his name.

Speaker 5 (01:24:36):
When I ain't un beat him, I.

Speaker 15 (01:24:38):
Also tell that guy, shut your bumb ass up and
say hook him.

Speaker 2 (01:24:41):
Man, shit, your bum ass up. Man, you're talking about
the thirteen O story. That is a myth, that is
a debunked A and M myth that they does. I
think the myth is like A and M painted three
thirteen and oh on him because they beat Texas thirteen
and oh and they changed it to b VO. That's

(01:25:02):
that's a myth. That's an my good story too. Now
on line four, does Joe want to do a shut
your bum mass up? You just want to talk Aggie's
in general? You know, I think you just want to.
We're gonna hold you, Joe to the other side, because
we know you want to get into a little more
deeper on the Aggie conversation. Brian apparently and really quickly
before the news at noon, Brian, what's the matter with you? Yeah,

(01:25:22):
every college coach today or uh, i'd let director or
whatever tell me you got every player you targeted.

Speaker 7 (01:25:29):
Man, Shut your bub ass up.

Speaker 2 (01:25:30):
You know there were a.

Speaker 16 (01:25:31):
Bunch of guys who you wanted to come to your
school who said.

Speaker 3 (01:25:35):
Thanks, but no thanks.

Speaker 16 (01:25:36):
But yet you're gonna sit here and tell.

Speaker 8 (01:25:38):
Me we got everybody we wanted.

Speaker 2 (01:25:40):
We got the best class we've ever had.

Speaker 7 (01:25:42):
Shut your bomb ass up.

Speaker 2 (01:25:46):
Percent agree. I would love to be able to hear
a coach go up in front of podium and say, ladies, gentlemen,
my coaches, we suck. I don't know what the hell
we're doing. We did that before. We have had to
call in a North tech a and M's coach or something,
all with the Walmart. Yeah, I'm glad you remember that. Yes, yeah,
we're next to the Walmart, Matt. And then the carts

(01:26:08):
keep getting into our practices. We're trying to integrate them.
I can't remember, could Yeah? Could you imagine you're a
coach going and we tried for these great quarterbacks. Our
administrationism and money for these guys, so we got we're
sol It's like our recruiting cast a terrible guy, Matt.
None of these people can play. Yeah, we'll be lucky
to win two games next year. We're scheduling down. Nobody

(01:26:29):
had a bad recruiting class, and the least some power
for everybody had the all got all their guys. They're
the best, wonderful recruiting class. Couldn't have gone bad. Everything
we wanted, good quality, high character guys. Are you looking
to go look at that list today, because in one
year we look at stars, Matt, We're not looking at stars.
We're looking at guys who could play on the field. Yeah,
and when they played for their second school three years

(01:26:50):
down the road. Twelve oh two, the news at noon
and Joe wants to talk some Aggie football. We always
want to talk Aggi because we are your unofficial home
in Texas A and M football. I know Matt, Aggie
met I take that calls Haggie. Matt's fine. I could
be Longhorn Matt two. You never know these things. Transporporter
works in different directions. Twelve o three on four Stark
seven me, now you're going back around? Is the Matt

(01:27:12):
Thomas Show with Ross?

Speaker 6 (01:27:17):
Twelve oh seven?

Speaker 2 (01:27:19):
It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross. And we
have the news at noon, and I'm gonna go first.
It's not like an A list story, but it's something
we kind of talked about, Bogie. It is about television ratings.
Oh did you see?

Speaker 3 (01:27:34):
No?

Speaker 2 (01:27:34):
I didn't. There was talk last week that the game
between the Pittsburgh or the Dallas Cowboys and the Kansas
City Chiefs was going to surpass fifty million viewers. ROSSI, yeah,
well the word.

Speaker 6 (01:27:51):
Is out.

Speaker 2 (01:27:53):
Last Thursday's game. Last Thursday's game between the Chiefs and
the Cowboys on Thanksgiving. I didn't see this. I will
gut feeling they did. They set the record. The all
time record was set on Thanksgiving. Okay, fifty seven point
two three million people watched that game because they change

(01:28:14):
the rating systems they count more streaming numbers now or
something like that. So that seemed like a cinch most
watch regular season game ever, shattering previous record by thirty
six percent. At its peak, sixty one million people were
watching the game. Now, what is the US population to fifty? Right?
I think it's close to three hundred ee okay, okay,

(01:28:35):
So even if that's the case, if that is three
forty two, we're healthier out there. So okay. So really,
at some point again, rating systems are very flaw We
can tell you that certainly for radio. Yes, one out
of every six people that was in front of a
television that sounds about right, was watching that game. How

(01:28:56):
do you count groups? So, especially in Thanksgiving you don't.
That's why what if I've knotted off from Turkey? Is
that in exact science? And do I count as a
person when I've When I'm taking a post Thanksgiving meal nap?
If your television is on and you're a rating system,
absolutely TV is on and I'm snoring, I still count. Okay,
did you did you fall a sleeper in the game? No,
I did have. I would say it was I was
so tired after watching the Cowboys. I barely watched in Sandy, Baltimore.

(01:29:20):
I thought I was wait to see Lamar Jackson throw
several picks. I huh, yeah he did. He throw several
two and then there was like four or five turnovers.

Speaker 12 (01:29:30):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:29:30):
Yeah, so he's not moving well, he's not looking good.
Their Ravens aren't gonna they're looking like that. And like,
I mean, how he how healed up? Is he gonna be?
He had what was it? Knee injury, hamstring injury, knee
injury and ankle injury? By well, by way late, shut
your bam mass up to the TV station in camp
in Salt Lake City for choosing the Niners Browns game

(01:29:54):
over Texans Colts Niners Browns. Yeah, because I figure there
was a large part of the West was gonna want
to watch the game. Yes, well, side to using legal
stream to watch the Texans allegedly, no, I definitely did that.
I'm sorry I used legal streams. Then nobody coming after
a million two I mean I hadn't taught you. I
thought you had Sunday ticket, I have red zone. I

(01:30:16):
don't have Sunday ticket. Oh okay, although Sunday red Zone's
not a bad option when you can't get the game
you want to watch. Although Sunday tickets not forty nine
hours for the rest of the season. That's not a tire.
The way, did you see the news we were talking
about this yesterday, Remember how we talked about red zone.
They're like, hey, guys, it's just one minute a spot.
I saw your one, and then all of a sudden,
within twelve weeks and a couple of months, it's up

(01:30:38):
to five minutes or eight minutes of advertised content. Five
minutes of spots. Where's Adam Schafter to carry the water
for the NFL? You know what I'm late on this?
Shout you Obama, this uf Adam Shafter. Hey, guys, it's
only one minute of spots. I don't know why everybody's
freaking out because you're carrying the water for the shield.
The orders came down from Roger Goodell's Ivory Towers to

(01:30:59):
back this up. I want to see you circle back
on this, shifty, you shill. Sorry, can you name somebody
that doesn't show for a league? They have to and
I know as part of the game we all have
to do it. Andah yes, make sure you download the
free iHeartRadio app. Yes, and we are non AI. Yes,

(01:31:21):
we are guaranteed humans. Yes, we guarantee it. All right?
What else you got on the news? Your shilling? But yeah, uh, Matt,
did you see what's going on with the LA Clippers?

Speaker 3 (01:31:29):
Yes? I do?

Speaker 2 (01:31:31):
Clippers, Chris Paul oustered, How are they calling this at Ouster?
Stunning Ouster is what they're saying in this ESPN article.
It's not like it was a military coup. Can we relax?
He's just a point guard who's faded. Chris Paul was
not on speaking terms with La Clippers head coach tylou
for several weeks before his ouster from the team. According

(01:31:55):
to ESPN's Sam's Sharonia, Paul and his leader ship style
clashed with Low and the Clippers. According to sources who
told Sharania, the twelve time All Star was vocal and
holding management, coaches and players accountable. They felt that the
Clippers that Chris Paul's style had become disruptive. He is

(01:32:15):
a free agent and it's already been floated on rockets Twitter,
Bring them home now. You can see two sides of this.
If you have a mail content and Chris Paul cloy
was a mail content. There's only so much bitching you
can do before you say, if you don't like it,
get out right. I mean that's in life. You have

(01:32:37):
to sometimes say your piece. But if you continue to
be belligerent about what you're unhappy with and they say, well,
we don't need you around, uh huh. It would have
been different if Chris Paul would have been Chris Paul
fifteen years ago. But Chris Paul is fada last year,
He's going to retire at the end of this season.
He was not playing starters minutes. Uh huh. He has really,

(01:32:59):
his overall has regressed in the last five years because
not because he doesn't care about it. He just is
old and has lost foot speed and can't do the
things that he did when he was younger. So, as
much as you may side with Chris Paul and saying
how do you do this to one of the OG's
one of the greatest of all time, at a certain point,
even if you have a disruptive organization, whether it's a

(01:33:20):
workplace at the office with your sales department, or it's
a NBA team, or it's a grocery store, if you
got somebody just tells you, how great, how horrible you are?
What are they supposed to just sit there and take it?
And if you can't and if the employer E can't
talk to the boss, one of the bosses, where's this house?
It supposed to be rectified? You don't think Tyrone Lu

(01:33:41):
didn't try to get it with Chris Paul and say hey,
can you back off a little bit? And Tyron Loo's
probably gone, I'm done. I can't do this anymore. I
can't have Chris Paul yelling at everybody. I know we suck,
we know we're disappointing. But my guess is Chris isn't helping.
Who could have out hire getting four guys like thirty
eight years old and older and Kawhi Leonard with a
degenerative knee issue. We are gonna gonna be successful. Yeah,

(01:34:04):
that's all I'm saying. And said, I look, my guess
is it's ninety nine percent the Clipper's fault. But I
don't want to say I get it. But if you
have someone that's just so unhappy every time he comes
to your office, you just kind of say, you know,
let's move on one more quick thing. Matt, did you
see who was late The latest suggestion for the Penn

(01:34:26):
State head coaching job is somebody we knowing, like Ben
Roethlisberger on his football and with Ben Roethlisberger Podcast. That's
not a joke. So you're telling me a guy that
said zero coaching experience said that, Mike Tomlin. He's suggesting

(01:34:47):
Mike Tomlin. Oh, I thought he was suggesting himself. Okay,
Roethlisberger saying on his football with Ben Football and with
Ben roths podcast, don't you it's so bad? I like
coach Tomlin. I have a lot of respect for coach Tomlin.
Maybe it's best for him too. A fresh star for
him is what's best. Maybe go be Penn State's head coach. Nope,

(01:35:09):
would not work. Hey, I mean they had a red
ass NFL head coach there once that wasn't that bad.
I'll buy a congratulations to Bill O'Brien for he has
been accepted to stay around at Boston College for the
twenty twenty to build something. You know, you're always bringing
these negative questions. We're trying to build something here, guys.
We're trying to win rockets and kings. Tonight, by the way,

(01:35:32):
seven o'clock right here inside Tota so lovely. Can't wait.
I can't make the arena today. You actually could. Very
busy now that's going on. I'll be there Friday, but
you're not coming tonight. I'm doing three games this week's
coming to arena. I mean we could bond if you
wanted to. We don't We hang out for like eight
minutes when I go tow that and six of those
the coach is talking. That's eight minutes less for your life.

(01:35:53):
It'll even me twelve fifteen. It is the Matt Thomas
Show with Ross. If you want to chime in seven
one three two one two five seven nine many seven
one three two one two five seven nine zero. If
you want to follow us on Twitter, we'd love to
have you, because I'm losing followers left and right. I
think it's gould have done anything wrong. I just think
a deactive accounts. If you want to come in, say
hi seven one three two one two five seven ninety

(01:36:15):
And at Sports MT and at Sports TV of course,
the Instagram, at Sports RV, wow, thank you Matt. And
at Sports empty we both we're building. We would appreciate
both of those, you guys following both those accounts seven
one three two one two, five, seven, nine zero come
up in a few minutes. I'm gonna gove away with
those rocket tickets that I have my own personal tickets

(01:36:36):
for tonight. I'm gonna give away to somebody here on
the show Way.

Speaker 3 (01:36:42):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:36:42):
The only you're like, well, Matt, how I win the tickets? Well,
you had to listen to ten o'clock hour. We're rewarding
ten o'clock listeners. We're gonna make sure the ten o'clock
audience is out there because we think it's largely of wasteland.
But we're gonna try to fix that. Yes, I like that, Matt.
We're being about solutions, not about problems. Yeah, be solution

(01:37:02):
oriented in your life. You start listening to show at
ten o'clock every day, good things gonna happen to you. Good.
But we'll take you all four hours for sure, all right?
Seven one three, two one two five seven nine zero
seven one three two one two five seven ninety kings
in Rockets tonight over TC. We're gonna visit with Kelvin
Sampson coming up in just a little over an hour
from now. The Cougars are gonna take on Florida State

(01:37:23):
this Saturday in a game at the Tota Center, and
we got the Texans back on the practice field. We
have championship weekend in the college football Uh, anything else
really going on that I that we've failed to discuss.
We haven't talked about the big Sunday night football game.
Oh yeah, it's working out well, must win game now,

(01:37:48):
can't you know what? You can lose this game and
still get to ten and seven? Yes, and I think
that again. I've always said ten good gin. You can
lose this game and still get two eleven and six. Okay,
let's go to the schedule really quick. Kansas City, Yes,
home Arizona, mm hmmm, Dub dub home Vegas. Yes, at Chargers.

(01:38:13):
It's gonna be tough Home Colts. Now that cold game
from Hey, the Colts are gonna rest their starters exactly
they're gonna play. It changed up a little bit in
a couple of weeks, didn't it. We were like, hey,
Colts will be resting their starters, they'll be playing Anthony
Richardson and yeah, well actually he's hurt still. I don't

(01:38:33):
know who they're backup is these days. Sam Allen ger
up to he's still I heard his name this past
weekend somewhere somewhere it might be with now some of
the Colts. So is he still think Texas is back?
As do most people do for sure? But okay, so
lest are the Broncos.

Speaker 3 (01:38:50):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (01:38:51):
So let's say, here's my thought. You can't have the
Texans defense. Can they really play another five weeks of
this credible football which is in the previous fight. Can
they just have to stay healthy? There's no dud in
that mix anywhere. You don't see like we didn't happen.
We just didn't show up. We were flat. It's the NFL.

(01:39:13):
They gave up there. They gave up twenty nine points
to the Jaguars. Is there any defensive scores in that game.
I don't think there was. I was at home twenty
nine points to the freaking Jaguars. I mean, uh yeah,
stuff can happen. It was a punt return touchdown, That's
what it was. Let me ask you this, If you're
a Texans defensive player and you put together this run,

(01:39:36):
are you in the back of your mind going, man,
we are so good. This is so much fun. And
at the end, we're gonna root hard for our offense.
We're gonna get We're gonna We're gonna do whatever we
can to help them, or is there a party You're like, man,
we're giving you the absolute best and we are barely
squeaking out these wins. And I think it would depend
because if you're losing games like thirteen to ten, you

(01:39:58):
probably are feeling like that. Yeah, it hasn't been that.
I mean, while the winning the Titans, I'm sorry. Yeah,
if you're losing games thirteen to ten is what I'm saying,
then then you start getting mad about the offense and
their lack of production. They have been winning and the
offense has been giving them enough. It's been four straight
one score games. That's kind of where the worm has
turned for the Texans. All five of their losses are

(01:40:21):
by one score, and all four of their recent wins
are by one score. Because you know what, I got
terrible news for people out there that are trying to
create storylines. That's what the NFL is largely. That's why
we watch. That's why it's the greatest sport in America.
It's so compelling. You never know what's going to happen
any given Sunday. That the margins are so thin between
two teams and That's why my biggest concern going forward

(01:40:44):
is going to be the game management of Demiico Ryans.
I mean offense, I get it, but I'm talking about
like when you get into the playoffs and stuff like that. Yeah,
I'm worried about these these bad challenges or these bad
use of timeouts, or play called randomly not kicking the
ball at the end of the second half against the
Colts when Kymie Fairbairn has the leg to try for

(01:41:06):
sixty four yards.

Speaker 3 (01:41:07):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (01:41:08):
Those little things come to light in the playoffs. They
always become storylines because playoffs are gonna be close. You're
playing the best of the best. Yep. I'm a little
worried about it. And see the thing of it is
that you know, and we had a caller, what was
our buddy in Miami Ray called it's like you know what,
til cold to show his Bomnico be toil. It's ever cod.

(01:41:29):
We are allowed to, as sports fans, uh huh, dissect
what we can do, and some people will have better
perspective than others because I've either played or coached before,
and I respect that, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's
a requirement to have an opinion about how your football
team is coached or how the players play. I probably
can't run the country or the state or the city.
But you criticize whoever's in office at the president, whoever

(01:41:51):
is in office as governor, whoever's a mayor. You criticize
them and they're That doesn't mean they're they're in fallib
or beyond approach. You've you've been mad at the economy
being bad. I guess what, I don't see your economics degree. Yeah, exactly,
you know what I mean. We're talking, Oh, now from
a more informed position, of course, you being in the
business for as long as you have and me being
a lifelong sportsman in the business for sixteen years. I

(01:42:11):
mean we have a little bit we're I'm temperand by it. Yeah,
I'm not gonna I mean I maybe twenty four year
old Matt Thomas would have screamed and yelled about a
variety of things. But now that I've done this for
thirty plus years, I kind of I can see both
sides of things. I would say, if you were to
grade out De Miko's coaching performance this year, it's probably
a bee. I'd be as good. I just would like

(01:42:35):
him to be more aggressive or and just just the
game management. I'm not thrilled about over conservative play calling.
I'm not I am not thrilled with his time out management.
I'm not thrilled with challenges. But you know what, friends
thirty one other cities are having the same problems. Just
when baby he believes, and he's not going to change

(01:42:56):
his stripes on this. He believes in his defense, they
that they can win him games, and so far recently
he's been proven right. Last three games thirteen, nineteen and
sixteen points given up, and they've been holding opponents to
under twenty points routinely. And he also believes in C. J. Stroud,
which you should too. Even three of their losses they
held the team to under twenty. Yeah, with a little

(01:43:18):
help of a better offense. I mean this, this which
can still run into shape. Their offensive line rankings A
pro football focus is not everything, but they keep going up,
so that means there's gotta be some kind of improvement.
They're not thirty second, they're eighteenth this week. Now, if
they also give up five sacks this week, they're gonna
drop it. They good bad. I don't think they're going to,
but they could. We didn't talk about Lincoln Tomlinson getting released.

(01:43:41):
Oh we needn't have a funeral rip. We didn't. I
didn't do it. What was your favorite Lincoln Tomlinson as
a Texas We should have come on. I feel like
I'd let y'all down. All right, George John and Connor
Hank Ted will get to you in a matter moment.
Seven one three, two one two five seven night. Now,
all three of these lines say tickets on them, uh
two two of the three, So you don't even know

(01:44:02):
where the question is. I don't, and you are going
to create this question. We come back because there's one
painfully obvious but something need something anymore? On my new
cheft seven one three, two one two five seven Natti
all right, twell thirty five Sports Talk seven Natti, all right,
We're gonna give aways some tickets here that I got
a pair of my personal tickets for tonight's game if

(01:44:24):
you would want to win them. How do we do this?
We got three people that are on the line. Do
we want to make them eligible for this or what
do you want to do? We didn't really make rules
by this. What do you say you're you're biting? You're
biting your lip. I say getting in early is a
dis service to the people who did not have the opportunity.
I'm sorry. Oh okay, So we'll see if John Connor

(01:44:47):
and Andrews sorry, you didn't say to call in for tickets,
and if you got in early, I mean, you know
you jumped the gun. Yeah, I didn't say, and do
it now on them. You're gonna hang up now if
you want to want to say to us, but yeah,
we're going to We'll take these calls if they're there.
There are rules in this life, and then we will
clear them and then we'll go to try to give
away the tickets here in just a minute. Let's talk

(01:45:07):
to some people. First, Let's go to a George and Cyprus. George,
thank you for waiting. Good morning, Good afternoon. You're on
the seven nine of you Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
How are you?

Speaker 3 (01:45:17):
I'm good.

Speaker 2 (01:45:17):
How are you guys doing amazing?

Speaker 3 (01:45:19):
If you want to give.

Speaker 7 (01:45:20):
Away to those tickets right now, go ahead and I'll.

Speaker 3 (01:45:22):
Take them, all right.

Speaker 2 (01:45:23):
What's the answer then.

Speaker 12 (01:45:26):
Well, I have a question. Actually that's why I call
it all right. I think this morning that Chris Paul
was let go. You think the rockets make kick the
tires on that again.

Speaker 2 (01:45:35):
He is a question, you know, I mean, are they
do they have a conversation about it today? Sure? What
does Chris Paul have left in the tank? And that
I'll have an answer for. So what I say, do
they talk about it?

Speaker 3 (01:45:53):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (01:45:54):
Did they laugh and giggle about it? I don't know.
Are they serious about it? No, they don't. I mean
he'd have to come here for pennies and the dollar
you have to trade him. Understanding is yeah, you would
have to be still part of the team because he
even vet minimum which of course he is a vet,
would put them over a hard cap. I thought, yeah,

(01:46:16):
the second apron, yeah, whatever that is? Or does that
alleviate come December. I don't know. I don't know all
the rules. I just don't. So to answer your question, George,
I don't think that Chris Paul's name will be associated
with the Rockets. But hell, I could be wrong, Okay.

Speaker 12 (01:46:31):
I was just wondering because I've seen that. I didn't
know if he got cut. I know, they say sent
him home, So they did what I saw this morning
on ESPN.

Speaker 2 (01:46:40):
Yeah, yeah, they send him home. That doesn't mean he's
still in the active roster when when they say when
they put a lineup card out there, his name will
be on there. It'll just be DNP not with team
like Carmelo Anthony. Well like PJ took us the last
two years of his career. Yeah, so here's PJ.

Speaker 3 (01:46:57):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:46:58):
I don't know, but there's been a lot of d
MPs in an Aruba d MP spending time with fam.
That's not bad. I mean getting paid in not showing up,
Chris Paul. I mean John Wall did a whole season
of it in forty plus. Millie, they hang out. Did
you look at that check and go damn? I feel
terrible about this. No, no, not at all. Let's talk

(01:47:21):
to John on seven on eighty John, good afternoon to you.

Speaker 7 (01:47:25):
Good afternoon, Matt. I'd like to take a guess at
your answer as well.

Speaker 2 (01:47:30):
Go ahead, give it a try ablem try to that's
not it. Not a bad guest though, well, but thank
you for listening.

Speaker 7 (01:47:39):
To evaluation is incorrect.

Speaker 2 (01:47:41):
That makes John, Thank you very much for listening. It
means a lot that you listened to us in the Tenneclonkaur.

Speaker 7 (01:47:47):
You bet hey, so I met you last year at
a high school volleyball game. Your your beloved Kingwood played
my Barbara Seal Eagles.

Speaker 2 (01:47:54):
And barbarae one correct, yes, sir, And uh, my daughter
she is.

Speaker 7 (01:48:01):
She is playing at a little school up in Oklahoma,
litt D two school and uh, tomorrow night they play
in the NCAA tournament. So I just want to give
a shout out to Oklahoma Baptist.

Speaker 2 (01:48:13):
And wow, that's nice. Congratulations John, it's great. And wind
in Nebraska ooh well, and by the way, it's like
twenty three degrees in Omaha today. I don't if you're
aware of that, but if you dressed warmly, it's terrible.

Speaker 7 (01:48:26):
Yes, so ross you big Texas fan. Me, I'm a
big Texas fan. Matt, he's he's not, but that's okay.
Everyone's ruling Texas out of the playoffs. The teams that
are ahead of them, is there? What what do you
think they're they're likely? I mean, if if Alabama gets

(01:48:48):
gets handled pretty handily by by Georgia, I don't see
them putting in Alabama over Texas. I see, and a
couple of other teams of by U type team or
something like that, I can't see some of them getting
in over Texas. Nobody travels nobody shows up like Texas
does on events like that.

Speaker 2 (01:49:08):
Uh yeah, well Notre Dames. Yeah, Notre Dame. Schedule is
done by you and BYU losing and Bama losing. They
could drop, they could jump down, but they would still
be eleventh and they would get they would get jumped
by the two conference championships champions who are not in
the top twelve, so they would still be out.

Speaker 7 (01:49:27):
Who would who is that most likely to be?

Speaker 2 (01:49:31):
It will be Virginia and then I think two lane
And you really think that those are auto bids. I mean,
there's nothing you can do about that.

Speaker 7 (01:49:42):
Okay, so they're obligated to take that runat that's just terrible, Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:49:48):
Yeah, I mean, look, it's gonna be a team thirteen.
Team thirteen is always going to be upset, and it's
looking like Longhorn is gonna be team thirteen. I mean,
I mean, I really don't see a scenario where they
can get in there. I don't either, and I think
Hunter Yourchek, who's the CFP chairman, said as much yesterday.
It's like they don't play a game. They can't move

(01:50:08):
and frankly, if all the favorites win, that still puts
some of the sark and lobby harder get your spot.
Maybe you can buy some political time. Yeah, there you
go right in the middle of like an American analytic.
We can buy like a debate, like a shark tank situation.
You can go in front of the committee and then
make his pitch. That's actually not not bad. We can
televise it. But on the ESPN year. There we go

(01:50:30):
better than this this Yukon women's game. That's all right,
we got some real Madrid action for you. All right,
let's talk to uh Connor on seven ninety at twelve
forty one Connor, good afternoon. What's going on? Hello Conna?
All right time? What is your answer?

Speaker 3 (01:50:49):
Please?

Speaker 2 (01:50:52):
Shirt Robs of Risk. It is not the answer an
excellent that was That was really unintended to be funny.
But we're finally very pretty good. Sure I love that?
All right? When we come back, no now, oh yeah,

(01:51:15):
people are getting really pissed. You can be mad at me.
I did it all right. I will give out the question.
Come when we return, hang out through the break through
our wonderful advertiser. You did not listen to ten o'clock hour.
You got no chance to give me a song? Give
me a song to play going back? What as song
you want? I got an idea. No, it's a hint
though we can't. Got no hints what I'm saying, No hints,

(01:51:37):
just one of your game show songs. Yeah, you'll figure
it out. Oh you'll come back with card Sharks. Sure,
why it's a good one. Look up card Sharks on YouTube.
It's a good thing to catch you things the old
or is there an old? There's an old, there's a
new one. He goes like this. Let's go astro the videos.

Speaker 17 (01:51:57):
Two's are cool as are supreme. Get an eight in
your mix, and you got no chance of cash dreams
on card Sharks.

Speaker 2 (01:52:09):
You know you're hired.

Speaker 6 (01:52:10):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:52:13):
We use that for something. We did it for Summer
of Fun a few years a snippet, as they say, yeah,
play play that. That's good. You found the song perfect.
We'll come back with that. And if you want to
win my rocket, my literally my tickets, they're up next
here on Sports Talk seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seven ninety is this nineteen seventy eight

(01:52:39):
games show music ROSSI right here? Or what this is
our Summer of Fun song?

Speaker 6 (01:52:43):
You'd use?

Speaker 2 (01:52:43):
I was gonna say we use this for something, but
I don't know what. We'll bring back Summer of Fun
next summer. Okay, we use some are of fun. Because
the Astros were so bad for so many years. We
had to kill time in the summertime because the one
breaking down astro games, all right, right, we brought in
people from other shows to play games, right, all right?
When we played what was the one I won against

(01:53:04):
the Adams? Password? Was it password?

Speaker 3 (01:53:06):
And and?

Speaker 2 (01:53:07):
And the clue was, oh, what was the one that
was terrible? Ping pong? And Clanton? I can't remember the poy.
He gave the answer of the clue, and he's like,
it was supposed to do that. I like, no, you weren't,
you dork. That's why he's one of the most Importantly,
I beat Clinton and wex and I won. Here's the question.
Ten o'clock hour of the show, we were talking about Instagram. Yes,

(01:53:31):
and I suggested putting up photos of myself wearing something. Yes,
And you said it was a terrible idea, and I
agreed with you. Okay, what did I say? What kind
of photos? What kind of photos did you not want
to see on the Instagram account? At sports mt if
you know that answer? Seven one three two one two

(01:53:54):
five seven. Hinty, Andrew, do you know the answer? I
believe it's the uh your swimsuits or bikinis when you
interviewed the lady.

Speaker 7 (01:54:05):
I believe this a swimsuit.

Speaker 2 (01:54:06):
Is that correct? That's correct, it is Andrew, it is correct. Oh,
I'm so happy. First of all, thank you for being
a tenantclock listener. By the way, you see other people
that dropped off. Yeah, I had no idea what the
quartry was. You are very, very thankful. We are thankful
that you're a tennan clock listener to the show. Thank you, Andrew. Guys, absolutely,
and you guys are a great show, and you're hilarious,

(01:54:27):
and y'all are better than the team to one.

Speaker 3 (01:54:29):
Y'all know.

Speaker 2 (01:54:31):
Well, we know that you've already kissed enough of our ass.
We're right, we're happy. I mean, that's obvious. So Andrew,
you're gonna give your email and your phone number two
hour producer and I will send those tickets to you
after the show today. Okay, all right, I appreciate it.
That's fun. All right. That's Rockets and the Sacramento Kings
tonight inside Tota Center. Are you gonna say, soack a tomato?
How do you know me as well as you do?

(01:54:52):
I know you better, you know your I can say
soack a tomato? Can I also say Sacramento, Sacramento. That's
after the game, That's right, they come in here, win,
light the beam red. That's something Craig would do. Can
I can?

Speaker 6 (01:55:07):
I can?

Speaker 2 (01:55:07):
I give you a quick story and this is this
is it's a bunch of people calling in. Thank you
for all for listening, Thank you, thank you ten o'clockers.
You know, we'll do this occasionally. I'm sorry, we'll start
giving way more prizes to this, and we'll do it
in the ten o'clock hour. We're just for more people
that are listening. At that point. We're gonna make you
sit around a wait sometime, but today we can. Okay.
So I will tell you that on Sunday, uh or

(01:55:32):
was it Monday, we were finishing up the Utah Jazz game,
and uh it was Ryan was sitting in one spots
next Huh there was a space in between.

Speaker 3 (01:55:41):
It was me. Yes.

Speaker 2 (01:55:42):
A matter of fact, people were actually saying they could
hear each each other bleeding into their broadcast. That is accurate.
We were right I mean, how could we not?

Speaker 3 (01:55:49):
Right?

Speaker 2 (01:55:50):
Okay, so this just shows you. This was a this
was a moment in time that made you kind of go, Okay, Matt,
your blank dustink, what do you mean this? A particular
person's dad came over and introduced himself to Ryan and
Craig and said, hey, I watch you guys all the time.

(01:56:11):
You all are great. And Ryan and Craig were like,
thank you, very mention. It means a lot that you
said that to you, save travels helpe. You had a
happy holiday. This particular person's had a relative on the
team and we were talking about how good the player was,
and he said, guys, thanks a lot, We'll see you later.

(01:56:32):
I'm right next to Craig. This one guy just took off,
didn't even say a word to me, didn't acknowledge who
I was, nothing at all. Well, Craig's on TV, Matt,
That's what I said. And I mean, and Craig, I
saw what I did. I slice a humble pie. I
stick out my hand. Oh okay, you didn't say this part.
I did it after he left. I did it as
a joke. Okay, I just like just set my hand out. Yeah,

(01:56:55):
I said, I'm Matt Thomas and maybe I didn't see you,
but no, he I was right next to them. You
make eye contact, I don't remember the guy was bald.
I thought loving eye contact. I don't think it was
loving eye contact. But point being is it just sometimes
it humbles you that out of towners don't necessarily you
should put on serious XM ready if you're if you're
listening around the country, you can you can catch me
on the broadcast, okay, but or we can watch it

(01:57:18):
on TV and you can now stream it s H
S e h N plus. It's a mouthful. I almost
jokingly asked how many of how long did it take
to come up with plus? Glad you didn't do that
as opposed to Max or Premium plus or Ultra Everything's

(01:57:38):
plus Disney plus ESPN plus Hulu plus Hulu plus more
money at your account. Yes, yeah, all right, so yeah,
we were we were talking to ten o'clock hour a B.
I tried tip. Everybody thought tri tip would have been
the question. Yes, which we appreciate you all from listening
for a man who's calling himself mister Texas says tri
tip is better than brisket. Your reaction, please let me

(01:58:00):
tell you right now why mister Texas works, Because when
I bring more Try Tip to Texas, you're gonna be like,
this is a nice I like Rabbi, I like New
York strip I like for I like you like it all.
But brisket is king, Maddie, you're in Texas, baby, Come on.
I think a real person like myself can admit when

(01:58:21):
something is not it's good. Like you are told as
a child, you must like brisket. That's not true. That's
not true. I I choose in and out over what
a burger? Yeah, that's just the wrong choice. Though, No,
it's not. It's the right choice.

Speaker 3 (01:58:35):
That guys.

Speaker 2 (01:58:36):
That is stop. That's such a that's it's a this
is a non Texas answer to yeah, Texas ive quality.
That's like tell.

Speaker 3 (01:58:50):
No.

Speaker 2 (01:58:50):
That's like saying a different gas station is better than BUCkies.
That's is a non Texas answer. No, it's fine. You
can be an answer if it's the right answer. You
gotta you gotta not have biases in your life. That's
why I try Tip is delicious. You cannot be blind.
You can't say no. SFA is gonna beat you of
h and then they get their ass wamped you know,
you gotta learn these lessons. Cross a fifty yard line.

(01:59:12):
The first half looked pretty promising. Did not cross a
fifty Yeah, yeah, you gotta. You gotta learn about these
homer picks. I know people with me. I know again,
I know we did the last time. We're in Texas.
Let you do the pole in California and I was
in La and every in and out burger I came
across had a line down the street. It was crazy,

(01:59:36):
blows my mind. You can't in the Waterburger lines down
the street because the service is slow. Slow. That's different
because let me tell you, let me tell you all
you know, it's slow and terrible. Let me tell you
right now. I do like rudder rugger. Okay, I love it,
but I'm telling you a rudder rugger. Your forty five
minute drive few line ain't worth it. It ain't that good.
It's always worth it. I love then. That's the thing.

(01:59:57):
You can love two things in this life. I can
love Scarlett Johansson and Jessica album. You know what, Jonathan,
I can I can be torn between two lovers and
I can occasionally feel like a fool, and sometimes you
gotta love them. More is breaking all the rules, just
saying and if you can't be with the one you love,

(02:00:21):
love the one you're with, love the one you're with
sound like it's like I'm finishing your lines. That was
kind of poetic. Okay, guys, maybe you should write a
song about it, right? Yeah? If I played the song
Torn Between the Two Lovers on this show, you fast,
you folks, what have me fired? You should get crushed.
It is the most campiest, slowly slowest number one hit

(02:00:45):
song that maybe ever made. I don't even know who
did it or what song that is. You want to
hear come back? No, I don't know. No, No, we're
not starting the new hour. We're not starting the final
hour of this show getting fired up with some crabby
folks song. No, don't do it, you can't stop, Jonathan.
Listen to it off air and tell and tell Ross

(02:01:06):
how bad it is, because I'm about it system. It's
called Torn between two Lovers, and I want to believe
it's Marie McGovern that sing I'm Mary McGregor gregor close enough.
Listen to listen to that song for thirty seconds. It
will make you want to find an ice pick and
gouge your eyes out oh, written by Peter Yarrow, but

(02:01:26):
it was a number one song I believe if I'm
not here Paul and Mary Uh. It was a worldwide
number one hit in nineteen seventy three. Seventy six came
out in November seventies. It's about this girl talking about
shacking up with two guys at the same time, and
you can't say which one she loves because both of
them are good in bed. Why don't you just do
the but the three ways? I guess you could do

(02:01:50):
it back then. It's free love. In the seventies seventy
is three ways are all over the place, right, Probably
not necessary. In twenty twenty five, right Jonathan, Right me, John,
I asked the college athlete, Yeah for advice. I heard
about those ou parties, Hey, they are good parties of it.
I heard you were topping some hills.

Speaker 3 (02:02:13):
You know what you are?

Speaker 2 (02:02:14):
The hilltopper. That's what you are. That's exactly what you are.
You are the hilltopper. All right, back to back to
relevant sports conversation. I swear to guy will do it here.
To start the final hour of The Matt Thomas Show
with Ross twelve fifty eight of Sports Talk Sevenattie is
the Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 6 (02:02:33):
With Ross.

Speaker 2 (02:02:37):
Bright one O two Sports Talk seven ninive. It is
the final hour of the show. We've got Kelvin Sampson's
coming up a half hour to talks from Cougar Basketball.
Cougar's taking on Florida State this Saturday at the Toyota Center.
Texans are Texans? Reporter Adam Wexer is out of Texans
today and what is he reporting? Not our insider, Remember
I'm the insider, But what is the reporter report? Insider?

(02:03:00):
Adam Wexler breaking news on Texans for US is out
at practice and he says there are a number of
notable starters missing from the media viewing portion of practice.
No Will Anderson, no Woody Marks, no Kamari Lassiter, no

(02:03:22):
Trent Brown, no Diniko Autry. Well, I've learned that I'm
not worried about this on a Wednesday game.

Speaker 6 (02:03:32):
No.

Speaker 2 (02:03:32):
Number two. The injury ports, if you were to go
back in years past around this time of year, are
going to be significantly longer because we're talking about teams
that have played eleven, twelve, thirteen games. Bruises aren't beat you.
Guys being beat up are going to be more prevalent
when it was in the previous game or just over
the summation of the entire season. So yeah, I'm sorry,

(02:03:54):
I let's look at this list on Friday and start
to panic. Okay, I'm not panic. Good, I'm glad you are.
But yeah, the bye week a little bit early Week
six this year, so they have been playing, let's see,
seven games in a row without a week off. We
are in December, by the way. You know, the Patriots
and the Panthers are both off this week.

Speaker 3 (02:04:18):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:04:18):
The NFL's got to do a better job of This
is too late in the season for an off week.

Speaker 3 (02:04:24):
Now.

Speaker 2 (02:04:24):
Granted, maybe the maybe the folks in New England and
Carolina are loving this. But and I'm not talking about
for fantasy football purposes. I'm talking about just in the
ebbs and flow. I mean, shouldn't you have the all
of the team's off weeks done by about maybe week eleventh,
the very latest you'd figure, But I mean you go
up to seventeen now, so I mean I think, uh,
are there byes next week?

Speaker 3 (02:04:44):
Too?

Speaker 6 (02:04:45):
No?

Speaker 2 (02:04:45):
This is this is last week? Yeah, all right? Seven
one three, two, one two, five, seven nine. If you
want to chime in seven one three, two one two five,
seven nine zero. We're gonna get to what ross eighteen
week schedule? Mm hmm two bye week two not by
not byas off weeks it would be. Would you advance
in a buye off weeks that's gonna make it a

(02:05:06):
twenty week season? Does that mean we're gonna have mid
February super Bowl? Are we starting the NFL season in
mid August?

Speaker 3 (02:05:13):
Now?

Speaker 2 (02:05:15):
I would think they would go towards the starting earlier
as compared to try people, Well, this year, wasn't it
near President's Day? Aren't they trying to do that?

Speaker 3 (02:05:22):
M hm?

Speaker 2 (02:05:24):
But you are adding if I hear I'm presuming a
second off week, it was right, you're gonna if you're
playing eighteen games, you need a second off week?

Speaker 3 (02:05:30):
Do you not?

Speaker 2 (02:05:31):
You would figure? But I don't know. Are they gonna
do that? What's one more game?

Speaker 3 (02:05:37):
Throw?

Speaker 2 (02:05:37):
Throwing a log on the fire? I'm sorry in this
particular case, the the players are gonna are are gonna
greatly benefit from this. I'm not gonna feel sorry for them.
I'm and maybe I'm callous about this. I just don't.
I just look charging for three exhibition games. Does a
fan base of the service, and if it takes an

(02:06:01):
eighteenth game with a second bye week. Now, granted, I
don't think I don't think you can play any more
than that, because then you're physically talking about wear and
tear of enormous links. But seventeen to eighteen to me,
doesn't feel like that's that dramatic difference, especially with the
second half week. They're gonna get more money and they're
gonna do it eventually. I mean, I don't know when.
I don't know how much pushback there. They got pushed

(02:06:21):
back from the players where they have sevent teams they
have when it was seventeen, there was pushback and eventually
got passed through. I think you're gonna I think the
ultimate game plan is to go to eighteen weeks. I
think you're gonna have at least everybody's gonna play one
international game. You're gonna have now you know how we
used to have we have noon games, three twenty five games,
seven thirty. You're gonna have once per week an eight

(02:06:42):
thirty nine o'clock in the morning start. We're gonna see
games in London, Madrid, Madrid. I don't like getting up
for Harris man, they're not asking you do it every week.
You're only gonna do it Frankin when you care. Even
if you got fats football players, you're still not getting
up early for it. I yeah, I'm not germally so
when the when the Vikings but the Browns? Did anybody

(02:07:03):
get up super early for that? Of course not fans
and those two towns did, But other than that, they didn't.
It's only gonna it's only gonna matter to the people
that they're trying to reach, which is a huge segment
of population, which is gonna have eighty five thousand people. Oh,
by the way, it's gonna be naturally broadcast on Sky TV.
I mean, they're NFL. It's stupid NFL doesn't. I mean
the reality is this. They weren't able to overcome the

(02:07:29):
blatant disregard for NFL player safety for many decades, and
as soon as they got caught and they were sued
never class actions, they fixed it. Yeah. Well, yeah, they
they're covering their asses from lawsuits. They're not doing because
they care about player safety, or they wouldn't be adding
seventeen to eighteen games. They're only doing that for money.
If you really cared about player safety, you wouldn't be

(02:07:51):
they wouldn't be doing these things they're doing. And they
if they really cared about player safety, if somebody, if
somebody lay hits a quarterback, get them out of the game.
Fifteen yard penalty is I can't thrown out for two?
Now here's my point though. What happens when you watch
an NFL game and your favorite quarterback runs a little
bit longer and gets hit the flag comes out. Where

(02:08:14):
do people go, oh, no, I hope he's okay, or oh,
fifteen bonus yard, let's go first down?

Speaker 6 (02:08:20):
We like it?

Speaker 2 (02:08:20):
And then is he okay?

Speaker 3 (02:08:22):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (02:08:22):
The okay is part of it, but it's not the
main part of it. It's just fifteen bonus yards. When
if player gets hit on a late hit, you don't
worry about that whether or not that guy's gonna get up.
It's hey, it went from the that was incomplete passing
third and eleven to first and ten. We're hypocrites. We're
hypocrites about everything. We're hypocrites about arguing about nil and

(02:08:42):
player distribution to cash on Saturdays. I'm not saying you,
I'm singing in general. I went to the barbershop yesterday
they're all complaining about players getting paid.

Speaker 3 (02:08:53):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:08:54):
Saturday, it can be one hundred thousand people at at
and T Stadium, Georgia, Domme or whatever. They're playing at
the Mercedes Citiment Atlanta for sec Yes, eighty five thousand
people all gonna be full. Rating is gonna be a
college football It is gonna have massive ratings. By the way,
the NFL announced their Week sixteen schedule, some of their
games were scheduled for the Saturday of the CFP. Oh,

(02:09:15):
that's right. And the NFL is like, you know what,
we are so much better than you are. We're gonna
put our games against yours. They're not even giving they're
not even giving college football its own run. It used
to be illegal or something like that, right, or there's
a Friday night on was illegal that I can't take.
But to be brittally honest with you, not illegal. But
would you rather watch an NFL game or a five

(02:09:38):
to twelve college football matchup? Depends on what the matchup is.
I'm gonna tell you this, I'm gonna be watching both.
And the NFL has zero problem with you watching both
because at the end of the day, you probably have
money on the game and fantasy implications on that game
way more than you won in a college football game
between say SMU and in general I am I'm a
bigger Longhorn fan than i am a Texans fan. But

(02:10:00):
in general I'm more of an NFL fan than I
am widespread college football. It's just too much to keep
up with. Yeah, because you you just I mean, Virginia
versus Miami sounds somewhat sexy. Flip on Yeah, done anything
for me, right, But I'm not gonna if you want
to tell me day around. Have you got Chargers Chiefs

(02:10:21):
I'm watching? Yeah, guess what has impact on the AFC
And it certainly has the impact on the team that
we talk about it. Do they have the So they
named which games they're playing, which times they did. There
were two games, one was terrible and one is really good.
So Gobles Commanders Packers Bears. Yeah, Packers Bears the nine
time game that should be good. Packers Bears is going
to destroy any college game in time. Are the Bears

(02:10:41):
the most anonymous nine to three team in football history?
I think Denver Rays would like to raise their hand
at ten and two. That's pretty good. Let me say,
do you do you notice in the NFL, how many
are you serious? Are way up high Chicago. Then you
have vert and then you have something called the Jacksonville Jaguars,

(02:11:03):
who make fun of constantly on this show. I mean
even the Patriots have been a joke for years. I
mean they were clost Brady, yos Brady and Belichick. Right,
proves the point we've been talking about for weeks now.
It's wide freaking open feeling good. I wouldn't say I'm
feeling good, but I would say I'm not feeling bad.

(02:11:24):
I'm feeling as optimistic, more as optimistic than it was
the last four weeks before that. So you went from
a world of zero to three to his cast we're
gonna lose his job, Yes to There are still all
of the playoffs, But the notion around the NFL streets
are is the Texans get in, they'd be as difficult
of as that as anybody else. Nobody's gonna want to

(02:11:44):
face this defense in the playoffs. The offense maybe they're okay, offense,
they're filing you know, I got that. I mean, if
you're Pat Mahomes, you are hoping for thirty five thirty
four because you don't think the Texans do to thirty
four offensive lines getting better though, Maddie, see how what
he Mark's hurt his foot and came back in the
game on Sunday, So that is one I'm keeping an
eye on. When he went out and went to the ten,

(02:12:07):
I'm like, oh my god, what's left? And yeah, he
came back out. I don't think he had really many
big runs after that. No, it is quite frankly amazing,
ladies and gentlemen that you have a football team at
seven and five that is getting as much run as

(02:12:29):
it is and it's not even in the playoffs yet.
Oh was it four and a half before this? Three
and a half Now, I don't think. I don't think
America is buying another Chiefs. Jonathan certainly isn't. Jonathan's Chiefs
Hater's number one, Chiefs hater number one, and Wex I

(02:12:50):
was listening to I told Ross I would listening to
him the other day when he was on the morning
drive with col and Dan. He thinks the same way.
The Chiefs aren't the same Chiefs that they used to be,
you know what I mean, They're still great, but then
the they're they're not topping the AFC. You know what
I mean. Well, I don't need to tell me that. Well, buyes,
we know what's going on. We've watched that play. Make
you some good points. Yeah, yeah, you're Chief's lover number one.

(02:13:10):
I'm just saying, don't sleep on them. You want to
go took a nap, but nappy nap on them. Go
ahead and knock that out. Do you know what you
gotta do this week? Ross? Let's if you if you,
let's bury them, let's put them away.

Speaker 3 (02:13:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:13:24):
You you beat them on a Sunday night in their
home building, when you're already down a game with them,
and you would lose the doll of the head to head,
you'd use the AFC tamebreaker and you'd bet two back
of them who put them on them as your Ross
got feeling, Texans pull it off. You said that every week,
though that's not true. It was last time you said
the text are gonna lose I don't know, six months ago,

(02:13:48):
training camp, probably the Rams Week one, maybe the Niners.
I mean all five of their losses are by one score.
I said they were gonna lose the Seahawks. That was true.
You know what I said, They're gonna lose the Seahawks
by double digits, and they didn't. I got news for you.
I'm not making a prediction of the game. Oh you've
been saying that. Stop stop what you said week and

(02:14:08):
then you buy Friday at two o'clock, you're making one. Nope,
I swear to God, I am not the Toro is doing.
By the way, were all four playoff spots already been clinched?
Oh really? Yeah? Sorry about no? You are dead last place,
really dead last, dead last. My team blows because I
have I have two quarterbacks, both on a on an
off week this week, so I had to go pick

(02:14:29):
up JPS roster construction. Excuse me, I'm in the playoffs.
So with all due respect, oh shut it, sho bubbo please,
because the champ is back.

Speaker 3 (02:14:39):
I like that.

Speaker 2 (02:14:40):
You've never won the championship, so how are you the champ?
The playoff man is back. The leagues are been running
since twenty ten. You got zero chips the league zero.
The consistent leader is back. I got four to the
last six son, you got none this year. You over
twenty five seven seven, And we are going to go

(02:15:05):
to the phones at a minute. We got to Kelvin
Sampson and ten minutes really quick. I brought this up
very early in the show. So Charles Oakley was on
some player proct podcast at the last than about another
two months before it goes away, and he was talking
about owning a restaurant in the Miami area called the
Red Steakhouse. Okay, and I would play the whole thing,
but it's about two minutes too long, so I'm going
to paraphrase here. Apparently, Oakley was in Miami where he

(02:15:30):
and Rodman were invited to an event held at the
One Hotel in Miami in South Beach. After the program,
Oakley went to say hi to a friend who owned
the establishment nearby. Meanwhile, Rodman said, Hey, Oakley, why don't
you meet me at your restaurant. Oakley's like, okay, I'll
meet you there. So he goes to his friend's restaurant
for other restaurant first, and the manager of the Red

(02:15:51):
calls his boss Oakley and says, hey, you got to
get over here, and Oakley's like, well, why do you
have to go here? Because because Rodmin's here. And He's like, okay,
that's no big deal, yes, but there's a major problem. Okay.
Rodman is going to people's individual tables and eating food
off their plate. Now we don't know when this happened,

(02:16:13):
but this is the storytelling he's saying. According to the
restaurant manager, Robin was caught eating food from other customers plates.
At first, Oakley couldn't believe what his manager said, but
when he arrived, he was shocked to see Robin causing
a stir with his disrespectful behavior. Quoting him. This is
quoting Oakley. I looked and peeped at the window. I said,

(02:16:33):
oh blank, so I go in. I went like the
same way I went to Barkley. I went straight to
him and grabbed him by his neck and pulled him
out of there. Wow. I pulled him out and said,
if I ever see you again, you better be in
a police car. I threw him out, and it was
just crazy. He walked around eating out of people's plates.
He probably thought it was funny. That's bad, you know,
like how that's funny. So yeah, it was crazy, Like damn,
he's walking around, He's really doing this. Hmm. I will

(02:16:59):
say this, if Dennis Robin came to your table, one
of the greatest rebounders in NBA history, one of the
most uh interesting people ever in sports history, and took
one of your chicken fingers? Would you be horrified by it?
Or like, would you think it was funny? I'd break
him in half. Absolutely, I mean he wouldn't stand a chance.

(02:17:23):
Of course not, I'd be like, yes, or mister Rodbin,
this is your chicken figure right right. I don't know.
I don't know how how you'd be shocked. You'd be
shell shocked. I mean, this was in the nineties or
when one was this, No, this is within the last
ten years. It's within the last ten years. I would
have I would have figured he's homeless. Then what's Rodman

(02:17:45):
doing these days? So he's still in North Korea on
a basketball tour with Kim Jong Il or whatever. Let's
say you're having some yogurt at a restaurant for breakfast
and Sidney Sweeney sat down and say, can I have
a body of yogurt? Yeah, that's a different scenario. Okay.
Maybe there were some ladies at at Oakley Steakhouses, like
I got a piece of my ribb him what. Maybe

(02:18:09):
there were some people that were honored that Robin won't
be eating dinner off his plates. I don't know. First
of all, I'm not eating chicken fingers at a steakhouse.
I was just telling this an example. I mean, he's
gotta get a knife and a fork to get my ribbi.
So the question and then would be does he bring
his own fork and knife to the table or does
he literally picked the fork and knife off the people's
plates and start eating.

Speaker 3 (02:18:27):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:18:28):
Does he just start grabbing? He just grab your steak
and start chewing on it. I would like a refund,
like a no, I'm not causing a ruckus, but I
would like to speak to the manager. I'd give up.
I'd give him some of my o grotten potatoes for him.
I would not for Dennis Robin chuir what he can affoid.
He's a multi millionaire, Yeah, but who shouldn't be stealing
my food. I don't even would say, uh, Robin, head up,

(02:18:49):
bit of my rabbi. I don't want to tell that story.
That story sucks. That means Dennis Robin put his lips
and tongue and mouth all over my food. But he's
been with Carmen Electra, Yeah exactly. I don't know what's
been a kind of diseases I'm getting he's touching my food.

(02:19:11):
He's been with Madonna again. As I said, I what disease. Yeah,
I'm not helping his case out, Ryan with his on
seven out of one to five? Ryan, how are you?

Speaker 3 (02:19:24):
And good gentlemen. I would.

Speaker 16 (02:19:27):
Be psyched and think it was hilarious if Dennis Rodman
ate off my plate.

Speaker 2 (02:19:30):
See, I don't think it's nearly as bad as you
think it is.

Speaker 5 (02:19:33):
Ross.

Speaker 2 (02:19:33):
I will agree with you. Go ahead.

Speaker 16 (02:19:36):
So I hate to admit this, Matt, but I've never
been to a Rockets game. I'm thirty three years old
and lived in Houston my entire life. But as I've
gotten older and I have my adult money, I've spent
in on Astro's tickets all the time. Okay, and I
have this opportunity with a buddy of mine who got
tickets from his job.

Speaker 3 (02:19:53):
Hey, you want to go with me?

Speaker 16 (02:19:53):
And I said sure, and he goes, all right. We
got to get there super early, and I was like,
so this is Friday. They're playing the Sun so uh,
I was like, okay, what time do we need to
get there? It gets until six thirty. He goes, we
got to park it. We got to be there at
four forty five, and I go, why do we have
to be there so early? Because I don't know if
they set the tickets, if we have to park somewhere

(02:20:14):
at and be there at four forty five, And I go, no, no,
you no, no, you are getting no you no, you
don't have to be the court side experience.

Speaker 2 (02:20:23):
I know nothing of this, but I can tell you
that there isn't a single soul that's sitting in the
arena that is parking his spot at four forty five.
Not happening.

Speaker 16 (02:20:33):
That's what I thought, So I'm not crazy.

Speaker 2 (02:20:37):
No, what I would do is this if he has
probably when it opens or something. No, the arena, you
can't even literally walk in the arenas. I'm in the garage. Yeah,
I would find out what kind of enhanced package you're
getting here. Is there's something special like a pregame eat
or something, then that might be a five o'clock five
thirty three game court. There are packages you can get
where they come to early. They come to shoot around,

(02:20:58):
and you can sit and shoot around.

Speaker 16 (02:21:00):
So he said something about quart side. If I'm sitting courtside,
I'm gonna lose my mind then. But I just want
to let you know I'm going I have no idea
what to take, and I was just wondering. I've been
to ASH those games, I've showed up to the happy hours,
I've done all the other fun stuff you can do
at ASH of the games.

Speaker 3 (02:21:15):
But I was like, I don't see all.

Speaker 16 (02:21:17):
We need to be at the Toyota Center four forty five.

Speaker 2 (02:21:19):
All right. I need you to find out where you're
sitting and do some more research with your buddy, because
I think you're getting some bad information.

Speaker 3 (02:21:27):
Okay.

Speaker 16 (02:21:28):
Also, I was wondering, could I say hi to at
the game if you got time?

Speaker 2 (02:21:32):
Just kidding, yeah, No, I would say yeah, I mean
fourteen fifteen dollars, you know something like that. Maybe maybe
buy me a pregame cocktail or perhaps a pretzel. You
want to say I do that? No, I'm just kidding
that I am on the I don't want to. No, No, Ryan,
come by and say hello if you can. I don't
know the section where I'm in is you have to
be you have to have East Club seats for that,
so I don't know if that's going to get you
in or over there or not. But if you're in

(02:21:53):
the East Club, I want to come say hello. I'm
a bisection one nineteen. Okay, and that means for anybody,
if you go into the game, then I want to
come say hell, I'm good, you're not going the game.
You're right, I'm coming Friday. I'm very busy to mail
it in, very busy mailing in Villaria, a lot of
I'm going. I'm working three post games this week. Damn
Matthews to be there at the game tonight. No, you
won't unless he's got your tickets. No he doesn't. No,

(02:22:14):
my listeners had the tickets.

Speaker 3 (02:22:15):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (02:22:17):
Calvin Samson is going to join us after Ross tells
you about the incredible folks at Centergenny. Very pleased for
the first time this year to spend ten twenty minutes
with one of the finest human beings and basketball coaches
you will find in this great country of ours. We
say hello to Kelvin Samson, head coach of our Houston Cougar's.
This Saturday, we take it on Florida State inside Tota Center. Coach,

(02:22:37):
thank you for the time as always, and I got
to give with the NBA because every time you guys play,
we're playing too. So I have been vored of seeing
you in person and from all the looks of things.
Vegas was a good trip. I know you wanted to
go three and OHO, but what great competition you face
there at that players are a tournament.

Speaker 3 (02:22:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (02:22:52):
Good to talk to you too, Matt Thomas.

Speaker 16 (02:22:57):
Yeah, that was a.

Speaker 3 (02:23:00):
Good trip in a lot of ways.

Speaker 6 (02:23:01):
I don't know that I can say that we live
there playing great. But you know, November basketball is it
is what it is. You're throwing some new guys out there,
you're trying to mesh you're building chemistry, your defense, you figuring.

Speaker 3 (02:23:20):
Out can we do this or can we do that?

Speaker 6 (02:23:23):
You know, the players are still trying to find themselves,
and as coaches, we're still looking at what's best for
this team. You know, you can practice for four or five,
six weeks, but until you get in the game and
see how the other coaches are defending you or the
actions they're running that you're struggling with me, you can

(02:23:43):
go back and try to work on it and fix it.
I think we're still in that stage right now, but
I like this team, Matt. I'm excited about where we
can be as time goes on. You know, we're in
December now, so we've.

Speaker 3 (02:24:00):
Got to make it.

Speaker 6 (02:24:01):
Start making some hard decisions on whether it's what we're
doing or personnel. But that's the fun part of coaching,
is trying to solve the issues as they pop up
and at the same time seeing these young kids we
have developed and grow and.

Speaker 3 (02:24:23):
I'm really really proud of our leadership we have on
this team.

Speaker 2 (02:24:27):
Kelvin, you have been able to adapt to the times.
Some of it very good, some of it allows you
part of the world that is college athletics. You have
two amazing young freshmen, Flemings and Scene, who have helped
you out. But knowing you for as long as I have,
you know that freshmen make freshman mistakes and sometimes they
need to grow and maybe it's halfway into conference play
before they can do that. And I don't want to

(02:24:48):
talk about the two young men, Chris and Kingston by themselves,
but just in general, are you, Kelvin Samson, having to
adjust how you treat your freshmen because of the fact
that your recruiting classes are as phenomenal as ever. You're
having another great one here and you had with these guys.
Have you had to change a little bit about your
philosophy about playing time, way you teach. Maybe you're teaching

(02:25:09):
faster knowing that these guys have got, you know, big
time aspirations. Beyond obviously helping the University of Houston winning
a national championship.

Speaker 6 (02:25:19):
Well, I think it goes all the way back a
little deeper. Matt and the kind of kids they are,
their backgrounds, you know, we want to help them develop
and be the best they can be so they can
get to the next level, whatever that level may be.
It's not always the NBA, and there's a lot of

(02:25:39):
basketball played around this world. You know, Malite Wilson and
jay One Roberts popped in when we got back from Vegas.
They were on their way back to Milite was flying
back to Budapest and Hungary. That's where he's playing. Jay
One is playing in Berlin and Germany. Justin Gore from

(02:26:00):
Baby and White, Josh Carltt and Coler Edwards, Taj More
uh normally eaving somebody out, you know, they're they're playing
professional basketball. Rob Gray is doing really well. But for
some of these guys, they do want to play uh
in the NBA. And the adjustment. The adjustment is I

(02:26:22):
think more patience than anything else there because they're going
to make the mistakes that you know, freshman may but
we still have championship aspirations now. Whether or not we
can be champions, I have no idea, but I know
that developing these kids and throwing them in a deep
end early gives us a much better chance later.

Speaker 3 (02:26:45):
Maybe not see the results.

Speaker 6 (02:26:47):
Today, but I think down the road it's really going
to help them but also help us. But Joe Emmanuel Sharp,
Minos Juzan, Jojo Tuggler, Ramon Walker, Mercy Chase said Cordell,
you know, we've got a lot of returning players, and

(02:27:10):
just watching these kids go against those guys every day
is really is really helping them. Our practices are that
can be intense, you've seen them, right, but but it's
it's been helping these freshmen make their mistakes and then
when they come to get in the games they've had,
they have that experience to build off.

Speaker 2 (02:27:31):
Calvin Samson our guests here on The Matt Thomas Show
with Ross again. You've ag going to play Florida State
coming up this Saturday inside Tota Center. Already finishing off
a trip to Las Vegas, have a visit to a
Brooklyn coming up soon to take on Arkansas scheduling too. Look, uh,
you know I love who you're playing, what you're playing

(02:27:51):
for the non conference schedule. Have you been able to
quantify that as to man that does pay off for
us in January and February or as look the Big
Twelve just a different animal in itself.

Speaker 6 (02:28:03):
No, there's always got to be a balance for the
for how we scheduled. But Syracuse is a good team.
They beat Tennessee last night. Notre Dame beat Missouri last night.
A lot of times if we don't play well, but
still when lot of times you may say, well that

(02:28:25):
team wasn't that good. You may not have the information
to know whether that's the true.

Speaker 3 (02:28:31):
Statement or not.

Speaker 6 (02:28:32):
But I knew that Notre Dame was a good team.
Missouri is a good team. We played Tennessee, so we
know they're good and they lost to Syracuse. So all
these teams are are good enough to beat you, and
if you continue to get better, we're good enough to
beat them too. But you're right about the Big Twelve.

(02:28:54):
We saw Iowa State out in Las Vegas. Uh, they're
really good. Kansas. Uh, Kansas is Kansas. They're I mean,
they're always outstanding. Texas Tech b YU. But you know
the strength of this league this year is is teams
like Oklahoma State, UH is undefeated, they've won some big games.

(02:29:20):
So it is Colorado. Colorado's much improved.

Speaker 3 (02:29:24):
You know.

Speaker 6 (02:29:24):
We had a good win in Birmingham against Auburn, you know,
and Auburn beat Saint John's the other day, and Saint John's.
Saint John's is a good team. Auburn is a good team.
So if you're playing quality teams, you know you want
to be playing good enough to win the game. But
you also know that there's a lot of things out
that we can get.

Speaker 3 (02:29:46):
Better at.

Speaker 6 (02:29:47):
And our hope is that the schedule we're having we're
playing now can put us in a position when we
get to January and conference play we're able to go compete,
whether it's at home or on the road, with teams
that are and I think the best conference in the
country this year.

Speaker 3 (02:30:03):
For sure.

Speaker 2 (02:30:04):
We bragged about your freshman a minute ago. Let's get
to a manual a little bit. Shooting thirty seven percent
from three uzan uh just a great ball distributor per usual.
You're getting thirty plus minutes from him. Jojo as long
as foul trouble has become an issue, has been as
good as expected for you you you mentioned a minute
ago about your rotation. Are there some serious questions right now?

(02:30:25):
Are there a few more minutes to be shaved or
added to a couple of guys? How competitive right now? Internally?
Is it with your guys that feel I can go
about eight or nine deep comfortably?

Speaker 3 (02:30:34):
Here?

Speaker 6 (02:30:36):
We've been playing nine, you know, solid nine. But you
know I could go down to eight or they could
stay at nine. It just depends on how these kids
continue to develop. You know, I was watching Duke and
who was that they were.

Speaker 2 (02:30:53):
Playing last night. That was a hell of a game.

Speaker 3 (02:30:56):
That was a hell of a game. But those teams
are playing seven or eight.

Speaker 6 (02:30:59):
Yeah, depth always sounds better, always sounds good. But at
the end of the day, coaches are going to play
who they think can impact winning in the minutes that
they get by. Last year we had Terrace and Elite
that came up to bench some nights. Terrence had it
and the other nice Malif had it. So you say, well,

(02:31:21):
we're not going to continue to playing both which ones
playing the best? And so, because you don't want to
take your best players off the floor, especially if they're
not in fout trouble and it's the top of game
and maybe they don't need to come out, so you
have a tendency to play your main guys up front.

Speaker 3 (02:31:37):
As I think is where we're still a work in progress.

Speaker 6 (02:31:40):
Chris is a freshman, still makes freshman place. I don't
say mistakes, just he makes freshman play. He's playing a
position he's never played, so it's not an easy, easy
transition for him.

Speaker 3 (02:31:55):
You know, everybody wants to play a position down.

Speaker 6 (02:31:59):
Fives want to be four, fours want to be threes,
threes want to be twos, and twos want to be ones. Uh,
ones are just ones? Are I guess the only ones
that are happy because that's what they are. But he's
playing the position he's never played.

Speaker 3 (02:32:14):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (02:32:15):
Probably stands out more defensively than offensively. He played really
good against Auburn, maybe not so good against Tennessee, but
that's uh. You know, that's a board you're gonna have
to ride with with those guys. You know, Kingson was
really good against Tennessee, you know, not very good against
Notre Dame, and probably just average or below against Syracuse.

(02:32:38):
But I know that that when we decided to do this,
that that's part of the deal, is you're gonna have
a little bit of a roller coaster effect. But uh Jojo,
Milos and Emmanuel, they're also dealing with different roles.

Speaker 3 (02:32:52):
Last year, Emmanuel was probably.

Speaker 18 (02:32:54):
Our third and some Nice our fourth option series. Some
Nice is our first or second, so that's a different role.
My lost was usually our fourth or fifth option last year.
This year is our first or second, so that's a
different role.

Speaker 6 (02:33:06):
Kingston was at bringing Brenham High School in San Antonio,
Chris was at Link Academy in Missouri, and Isaiah Harwell
was at Wassatch Academy coming off of the ACL. So
that has our team a little bit kind of in
a you know, patience mode where we just got to
keep plugging, keep showing up every day with the right

(02:33:29):
work ethic.

Speaker 3 (02:33:31):
Being a pay.

Speaker 6 (02:33:33):
Attention to learn, follow instructions, be attentive, and figure out
how we can take a complete possession the offense to
the defense, defense to the offense and then just continue
to repeat that over the course of five minutes or
six minutes or seven minutes, and we're still working toward that.

Speaker 2 (02:33:51):
Parlot Cherun, I want to go back to the Auburn
game because I thought that was even though it was
in a mid November game. The game was technically in
neutral site, but you know, Burmi him in auburnets right
around the corner. Ah, that got some hair in some
guy's chests going on that road and getting that victory.
Would you not agree?

Speaker 6 (02:34:06):
Yeah, especially the two freshmen. Chanston was outstanding that day,
and so was Chris. You know, Chris is struggling with
the shot, struggled offensively here and there, but the one
thing he's been solid with is rebounding. And if you
can find one thing that can be your baseline, then

(02:34:27):
you can grow from there. I said, Chris, You're you're
rebounding is keeping you on the floor. Don't don't let
up in that area, and now we can just start
building off that. You know, whether it's defensively or offensively,
or making the right play, helping Jojoe if he's out
of position, or if somebody gets beat off the dribble,

(02:34:49):
reading it early and getting over and being a rent protector.
There's so many things that don't show up on the
scoreboard that you want to freshman to be able to do.
You take a guy like JVR Francis or Jay One
Roberts or some of the really good baits we've had,
for granted, but they were in there.

Speaker 3 (02:35:08):
You know.

Speaker 6 (02:35:08):
For j One it was his third, fourth, fifth year,
same thing with j Vier his third excuse me, second,
third or fourth year. You know, these guys aren't going
to be as good as those guys, you know, the
pro aspirations notwithstanding, that's down the road. You're not a
pro today. You're a college player and you're inexperienced college player.

(02:35:30):
So don't say, well, he's an NBA player. He's not
an NBA player. We don't have an NBA player on
our team. We have guys that could be one day,
they're certainly not today. Their college guys trying to trying
to fit into a system that can help them understand
what it takes to win, impact winning and being a
player that finds out or figures out what is it,

(02:35:52):
what is it that I'm good at and how can
I build from here?

Speaker 3 (02:35:54):
So but that's the beauty of coaching.

Speaker 6 (02:35:58):
That's what my staff and I hang our head on
and we'll just continue to work at it. I don't
have any aspirations long term with.

Speaker 3 (02:36:08):
This team right now.

Speaker 6 (02:36:09):
We just come in every day with these young kids,
the veteran guys and trying to get them to mess
and be a good team.

Speaker 2 (02:36:16):
Kevin, thank you for the time, friend. The Tota Center's
been super cold this year, so you may want to
wear like a heavy sweater because it's going to be
pretty chilly for that Saturday night game even though the
roof on it. But so be prepared for that. Best
of luck against the Seminoles and is great talking with
you as always.

Speaker 3 (02:36:30):
Okay, Matt, thanks for having me off. You got it.

Speaker 2 (02:36:32):

Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today.
