Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross ten o
one in ahe town.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Good morning, and welcome to a Thursday edition of The
Matt Thomas Show with Ross from San Antonio. This is
Sports Talk seven ninety Who Run, Who Run? Who run?
Out of five seconds left to go and for the
(00:31):
fifth straight time, your Rockets hit the floor and gather
another Rockets win. Final score. Your Houston Rockets won twenty
four and the Memphis Grizzlies one oh nine. All right,
(00:51):
sports Harvy, did you have Josha Koge being the three
point bandit on your Bigo card career thirty point two
percent three point shooter over fifty percent.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Right now for the Houston Rockets, I did not, Matthew.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Going into last night's game, two of the top five
to three point shooters in the NBA were Tarry Eason
and Jaques Landell.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Hey, Jack Landell was splashing some last night.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Both we'll keep their spots in the top five after
their performances last night. One guy was feeling good as
his teammates were knocking them down all over the place.
The other probably is going, can you get me out
of Memphis? Mate? Ten oh three? Sports Talk seven Hoy Ross,
How the hell are you?
Speaker 3 (01:42):
I'm doing great, Matthew on this wonderful Thursday morning.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
I was gonna say afternoon, but it's the morning. We
used to be in the afternoon. We covered two day
parts out too. We get you from brunch in the morning,
and then we blow into the microphone and we go
to two o'clock and we we're like the Bridge of
seven ninety. Yeah, we are the other bridge. We've been
the bridge. We have been the Golden gate Bridge for
this franchise, for this radio station from since twenty ten.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Yes, all right, the suicide rate, uh yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
And the in the fact that Jane Moore was in
charge of the boat for a while and the ship
and the bridge, and yeah, all right, hey, uh hey,
he made donk it's gonna be with us today and
coming up in less than an hour from a really
pretty pretty good mood.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Wonderful five in a row. Can't be too mad about that.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
No, no, And look, Memphis tried a couple of times
to get Cozy in the game. They were just Rockets
were torning with him. There was no way, know how,
no chance of Grizzlies were going to beat the Rockets
last night, even if Cam Spencer, h the typical white
guy with the long white T shirt beyond his jersey top,
was knocking down three from all over the arena last night. Yam,
Spencer is the one going to try to beat you.
(02:50):
You're going to beat the Memphis Grizzlies. And they did,
and they did, so I woke up. I'll be brutally
honest with you. We got here to the hotel about
two fifteen, so I try to sleep as long as
I could, and I woke up and went when thefore
you tab on my Twitter came by the way as
at sports empty. Hello good, we're back to glad to
have you back. If you if you lost me.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
I thought it was that you were changing it to
hacked empty.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Well, we're gonna get that two thing authentication can go
when I get back to town. Ye help me with that, pious.
So the number one for you tab uh. There's a
lot of basketball people that will shoot videos at games
and whatnot. It made me openly chuckle this morning when
apparently John Morant's dad is sitting courtside at the game
(03:35):
last night. Apparently he does it quite a bit. Kevin
Durant is just giving him the excuse me on this
one the business basically saying you know your son doesn't
want to be here. I mean, he is just calling
him out. I do want to believe there have been
a lot of great blank talkers in the history of sports.
(03:57):
I want to say Rotter, maybe low key Kevin Durant
in the top ten of all time.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
Yeah, Kevin Durant's on the list absolutely. He loves talking
trash and I haven't started up at starting five documentary,
but there's the like when he's talking trash to Gary Payton,
who you know, man's probably on the top five trash
Dodgers all the time.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
Right. Yeah, I've a downloaded myself. I apparently you're gonna
see sides of James Harden and Kevin Durant you never
would have thought you would have seen. So I applaud
these guys because, look, those two guys are two of
the richest people in America. They don't need this Netflix show.
I don't know if they're trying to build their brand
for post basketball life or whatever the case may be.
(04:35):
But the little clips that I have seen, I mean,
we're seeing things about James that I never knew, even
in the years that he was worth traveling and calling games.
I mean him being a dad and whatnot, and Katie
with all the people around him and talking about relationships
he had when apparently he and Raymond Green are going
into war as war wards right now about how good
he Katie was for the Warriors and vice versas. So, uh,
(04:57):
if you are in a doc form and you do
love the NBA, this is definitely one that I I
am ready to take at in the next couple of weeks.
All right, So we got that coming up at eleven
o'clock today. You may doka, We've got the news at noon.
We've got I just don't get at eleven thirty, Rossie, don't.
We don't call for doctor Sports RV very much. Uh,
we're gonna need him at ten thirty today because if
(05:19):
you've seen the Texans injury report list, I mean, my.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Goodness, it's it's lengthy. I think we'll go with that.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
Lengthy would be the understatement of the decade. It is deep,
and it's got really good players on. I mean, there
are some guys that only WEX knows who they are,
but these are people that we do know. Mm hmm.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
You want to go with prodigious, that's a Craig Ackerman favorite.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
That is a big one. Can we just go sitting
for this show long?
Speaker 3 (05:47):
It's a lengthy, lengthy works long.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Okay. Uh And I think I put a gut feelies.
I think Davis Mills can still beat the Texans the
Jaguars on Sunday. I don't know if I'm so sure
if that this list isn't.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Gonna be better if everybody not Davis Mills, if he's
playing by himself.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Yeah, I mean, if you're gonna, if you're going, if
you're calling up CFL lineman to come and protect you
on Sunday, it probably isn't gonna be a good situation.
So uh yeah, it's it's getting from bad to worse
over there. On Kirby Bade, the offense is underperforming. Uh b,
you got Frank, Let's be Frank. Uh. Demico has been
(06:25):
salty so far this year, Sultan than ever has been before.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
You're missing your MVP and Knyimie Fairbairn.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Yeah, you're missing the Ring of Honor guy. Both of
your kickers legs are slown because of a use.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
But it could be a lot of d nps on
Wednesdays and hopefully things will pick up on Thursday.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
Yeah, I mean the last injury report will be on
Friday afternoon, probably what three or four o'clock in afternoon,
and that'll be the greatest indication of as to who
is going to if you don't see him practicing or
you don't get the reports from the actually the legitimatia
that cover the team, if they don't practice on Friday,
that's using ninety nine times out of one hundred they
do not plan.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
So.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
Correct.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Is it a must win game?
Speaker 5 (07:05):
No?
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Okay? What? Okay, let me ask you this when you
win this bet for Kyle Tucker's contract. Yes, We're sitting
there and we're watching the hibachi and I'm thinking about
how I'm gonna have to pay for this meal of yours. Okay,
Jonathan and I are going to spend about twenty minutes
(07:30):
of our dinner with you discussing how we need to
get the little term out of your head of must win. No,
it's ridiculous, and we'll go to figuratively no, because people
were calling Week three against the Texans a must win game.
It's stupid. Yeah, I'll say it's stupid. Okay, So people
use this to Willy nilly, everything's a must win. They
(07:50):
come out and say everything's a must win. Some people
are like, oh, so you the player says it's a
must win. You're wrong, Ross, So the players say every
game is a must win game. So I don't want
to hear too much gray area.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
If somebody got to draw a line in the sand,
and I am that somebody, Jonathan, I tried.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
You tried, good effort, but you know some you know,
sometimes people just want to are strong in their convictions,
and Ross, I will give you credit for that. Some
of your takes have been flawed over the years, but
just stay true to them. So, uh, you know what again,
I'm gonna try for twenty minutes and no more than that.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
The years always reveal the truth in my takes.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
Matt, It's that right, okay, all right? Uh, if you'd
like to join the radio show today because you said
to yourself, Hey, I want to talk to Matt and
Ross because they're really nice people and they'd like to
talk sports eighty nine to ninety percent of the time.
So I want to talk sports with those guys. Let's
go seven one three, two, one two five seven ninety
is how you reach the show today? If you want
(08:51):
to join us, that's seven one three two one two
five seven nine zero. If you want to join us
on Twitter, you may do that as well. It's at
Sports Empty, which is back. Apparently there are thousands of
people that are getting hacked. And I have not heard
from John McClain this morning. Ross. I don't know if
(09:11):
his account is up and going again, but he has
been hacked. And apparently part of the hacking process is
you are receiving dms from people wanting you to vote
for them in a contest. If you get that from
somebody on a DM, do not click it. That is
the precursor for your account getting hacked. So you'd clicked
(09:33):
on something. Well, John McClean sent me something. Hey, he says, hey, Matt,
I'm up up for a finalist for something. Can you
click this? And I thought, okay. John's a decent enough guy.
He doesn't, you know, we know much of a conversation,
but we're friendly enough to each other. And obviously he
called me yesterday, our texted me man, and so I
did because I'm a good person.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
You got fished by John McClean.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
No, I got fished by John McLean's bot. It's not
a bot well or whoever took whoever it took over
his account, So you know, you know, almost gonna do Ross.
I'm just not gonna respond to DMS anymore. It's just
it's just not worth it. Yeah, that's that's a good idea,
I guess. Okay, all right, well, we have got other
(10:17):
things to get to. We got there. We got doctor
Ross Sports RV Report coming up at ten thirty with
all the listening of the injuries. Okay, we also have
a new hitting coach for the Astros. What this will
fix everything? Apparently? Yes, let's go. And we're gonna have
to read this guy's resume to see if we like
him or not, because.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
If he's available, he can't be that good.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Well, I mean, the Asterisks let their two hitting coaches
go and they both have jobs elsewhere.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
So where's that where Sentron Rangers?
Speaker 6 (10:49):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Really? Yep? Huh. And now he's telling them all the
company secrets about how jose To l two A likes
to hit and how let's see, Jeremy Penia is used
to be horrific against sliders and now he's just average. Hmmm,
(11:11):
everybody's getting job Sports Harvey.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
Yeah, Troy snicker had a jo, was jobless for like
three weeks and went to the Mets.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
It's funny. It's interesting how these guys the worst, they
did not lose their reputations because the Astros were using
triple A guys for seventy five games.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
This year, the incompetent, bumbling idiots are are back in
mark with major league teams.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
Well, all we know is that the new guides in
town will take more about them. We come back is
obviously significantly better than what we had hopefully. Seven one
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five SEVENINTI. It's a Matt Thomas Shold Ross.
I'm here in San Antonio if you'd like to be
a part of the program. Seven one three two one
(11:54):
two five seven ninety that Ross with you at ten nineteen.
Amy A Dooka is going to join us at eleven o'clock.
Rockets have an off day here in San Antonio tonight,
and we'll take on the San Antonio Spurs tomorrow. The
Spurs losing last night in Los Angeles, Victor Woman Yama
(12:15):
getting into foul trouble last night as the Lakers came
back and won that game. I'm just gonna say this,
and this is a very small editorial, the Rockets are
really good. They don't have a horrible loss. I mean
they only got two. They won five straight. Neither one
of the losses to Oklahoma City or to Detroit were embarrassing.
(12:37):
I mean, you wanted to play better. This team's really
good and if each Shepherd progresses to being a guy
that can give you decent minutes off the bench. And
the reality is, there were some times last night that
you had Josha Kogi Ross running the Rockets offense. I
mean there was really a point guardless roster out there
(12:59):
during a couple times in a game against Memphis last night. Yeah,
I made the I'm with you.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
The prediction like this team is I've seen enough now
well okay, it's early, but I've seen enough to know
that they're my gut feeling on Tuesday that they are
going to finish top three in the West. I'm feeling
even more confident. They are really good. They are going
to get even better. Joshua Kogi isn't gonna always shoot
like this, neither is Tarry Easton. But they have too
(13:27):
many options on offense, and the coaching staff is too smart.
Right now, teams are doubling Kevin Durant, doubling alprin Shangoon.
They're finding other guys A men Thompson, how many in
the last two games, Matt how many? How many easy
basket cuts has a men Thompson scored on like, I
don't even know, eight to ten somewhere around there, they're
(13:47):
free two points bunches.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
Yeah, he gets him in bunches too. He goes that
dunker spot, which is and he takes the pass either
from Shan Gun or Durant, and he finished at the basket.
There's nobody that gets in his way. He can muscle up,
he can hit that little mid range seven eight footer. Now,
the outside shot still is a work in progress, and
maybe he always will be. But when he gets to
the basket, his success rate is phenomenal, especially if he's
just kind of sitting there waiting for the ball to
(14:09):
come to him. He gets up, he goes I'm strong.
And everybody that I've gone to now, granted the Rockets
have played Boston, We've been in Memphis, have been Toronto.
All the different media, all the different broadcasters that I
talked to, they're like y'all are really good, and I
just hope and look it's going to again. It takes
a deep playoff from There's nothing that's ever gotten a
(14:30):
city excited much less Houston excited about a basketball team
in early November. But they're they're not. Like Kevin Duran
has shot thirty three percent from the floor in his
last two games, and it hasn't mattered. He gets to
the basket when he needs to, in scores, he distributes,
He's got other guys around him. It's not And that's
(14:50):
the one thing if there's ever a storyline about this
year's team is yeah, Kevin Duran is here. He's one
of the greatest players of all time. He wakes up
a twenty points on his box score, but he doesn't
have to do it by himself. Now to your point, again,
you're not gonna expect tar Resan and Joshua Koge to
be the perimeter threats, but somebody might. It might be
a night where it's Jabari Smith who's outside shot. It's
(15:12):
gotten better. That mid range for him is as good
as it's been in a long time for him. Alprin
Shangoon is a I mean, he flirts ROSSI with a
triple double every single night, every single night. I don't
count those. Oh okay for bringing that up, but he
almost had one last night too. I mean, he he
(15:32):
wakes up with the double double. And so I know
there is the comparisons calling him baby Yokic, and I
don't want that, because Nikola jokicch may be the greatest
passing center in the history of the NBA. I mean,
I don't even really know who would be the second
best at this point, but who He's his own person.
But he is twenty two, fourteen and eight about every
(15:54):
single night. And you get that from Alprin Shangun. You're
gonna win a boatload of games. You just are, uh
good time.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
Yeah, he's averaging seven assists so far this game. This year,
the turnovers have been up and and I've been saying
this as well on the premi and post game shows.
I don't know how much the turnovers are gonna They're
gonna go away and get better a little bit, but
you still, I mean alprynching gun when he puts the
ball on the floor, I mean he's gonna get ripped
from double teams. He's gonna lose the handle.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
This is just how it is.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
He is not going to handle as good as a guard.
He can get close and he can make good plays.
Same thing for Kevin Durant, another guy. So the turnovers
are still gonna be a problem. But his vision. There
was that play Matt last night where he's he's bringing
the ball up the floor and then he whips a
perfect passage Barr Smith Junior on the left corner.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
For a for a splash three.
Speaker 3 (16:42):
Like his vision, his passing ability, he's so good, and
that's one of the He's absolutely one of the reasons
why I say this team is gonna be This team's
gonna be one of the best in basketball. I think
they're gonna be one of the best five teams in basketball.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
It makes me think two things. How dangerous could this
be if Freddie was here and playing? I mean so
that that, yes, it makes you think of absolutely popped
in my mind as well. And then number two, Dorian
Phinney Smith. Many of you maybe not know who because
it's been a role player for a lot of NBA teams,
but Dorian Phinney Smith is an accomplished NBA player. He's
probably a better offensive scorer than Josha Kogi. Would that
(17:14):
be fair to say, yes, think about it career. So
you're gonna get a slightly better improving offensive scorer and
a Kogi. You're gonna still be able to use Josha
Cookey in minutes here and there. His team is ridiculously deep.
And so I would just say, as my latest public
service announcement, watch listen, get to learn. Get that stigma
(17:35):
of all these guys do is shoot threes and make
and and go to the free throw on and done.
Get all that nasty, little, uh generic stereotype crap out
of your mind. Because if you like basketball, and not
even if you love basketball, you're going to have an
elite basketball team in this city this year. Do they
win a championship. Let me tell you something, friends, the
(17:57):
West is an absolute beast and there is no city
in this NBA in the Western Conference. I'm talking about La,
I'm talking about Denver, Minneapolis, even Oklahoma City who lost
last time to Portland. There is nobody in the NBA
that is going we got this. It is going to
be a knockdown, drag out war in multiple series come
(18:17):
playoff time. And so I'd like to guarantee the Rockets
to make the Western Finals. I'd like to be able
to say that they're going to be their favorites, and
they certainly were when before Fred got hurt. But the
way they're playing right now and the way they're getting
contributions from people that you didn't expect to get contributions from,
and the fact that a men Thompson, despite not having
a true perimeter outside shot, is averaging but twenty five
(18:38):
points in his last two games shows you how deep
they are and how they create their different ways to score,
and they're doing it, and they're scoring, and they're shooting threes,
and they're leading the league in scoring. It's just been
a lot of fun so far.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
When it's the next time you're in a casino city.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
I am in the Mellie walka on Saturday. I don't
know if they have a sportsbook or not.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
Okay, A friend wants to ask what the Rocket's future
odds are?
Speaker 2 (19:03):
That's all I know, this friend. Do I work with
this friend? Maybe? Do I talk to this friend in
a regular.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
I mean, if it's more than like ten to one,
I mean, I'll put a couple of shekels on that, right.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
Well, you may do that. I may not, of course, yes,
of course can you can you do it on my behalf?
Speaker 7 (19:30):
No?
Speaker 3 (19:31):
Oh oh, this is eighteen to one. Eighteen to one
at MGM.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
Is somebody that our audience, that that lives and that's
going to Lake Charles today. They can put a bet
down for you.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
Uh yeah, I gotta get down there before they keep
getting a long winning streak.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
So how much longer will they allow these championship oods?
Will they let it go for like at least half
the season or no?
Speaker 3 (19:52):
Championship ods are until basically like the the final start.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
It's because you could read that, you could read do
the eye after once team?
Speaker 3 (20:01):
Yes, absolutely, they always recalibrate. But yeah, this team is
really good. They're gonna get even better. As you mentioned
Dorian Finny Smith is going to join, They're gonna get
better chemistry. This if Jabarsmith Junior keeps this up and
then you get some three point production. I mean Thompson,
I mean, this offense is it's unstoppable. The offense is unstoppable.
Kevin Durant is too good. Alprinchingun commands double teams and
(20:23):
then you have some shooters and cutters around them. They
play well together. They have really smart because they have
a really smart coaching staff. I'm excited. I'm excited, So
I would just say, please be excited with this. Don't
don't hate it, don't go to the well.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
I haven't watched basketball since Larry Bird and Michael Jordan playing. Hey,
you're buring your head in the sand.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
I'm just gonna say, Okay, Donovan Mitchell scored forty six
last night. Uh you had Luca Doncis was dropping like
thirty five and fifteen assists or something like that. Didn't
Jokic have like a thirty thirty, fifteen to fifteen game.
The NBA is incredible right now.
Speaker 5 (21:00):
It just is.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
And look, I am not trying to tell you what
to do with how you live your sports life. But Franklin,
let's face it, the Astros have got a lot of
moods to make before we get back to this championship talk.
The Texans are about to lose ten games this year.
The college basketball doesn't hit the needle until March. What else?
I mean, You're not got you gonna watch live golf?
I mean, come on, let's go.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
Premier leagu's hot and have you Matt big A big
matches at the man City and Liverpool on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (21:27):
A lot of people care, okay, but not in the
seven one three seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven
n eighty Ladies and gentlemen. We do not ask of
you to pay a copay. No other station in the
marketplace is going to give you the analysis of how
(21:50):
a player is affected on the field. But also in
the doctor's office. It's Doctors Sports RV with tonight's this
would probably tomorrow too. No here is Ross's doctor. Excuse me,
doctor Sports RPS. Medical report on the Houston Texas.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
Wednesdays practice report, Denico Audrey was a d n P,
that is, a did not practice with a knee injury.
He's been blocking kicks. He also was on IR to
start the season. Gonna be a big miss for the
(22:30):
Houston Texas if he's on a eminatable to play on Sunday.
Will Anderson Junior, I don't expect to miss much time.
He was d n P with a quad Hopefully he'll
be back at practice today. Nick Chubb dn P with
a foot injury. We'll see what happens. There're not done,
(22:50):
are you?
Speaker 1 (22:51):
No?
Speaker 3 (22:53):
Kimie Fairbairn d n P write quad. He's already been
replaced by what's that guy's name, Matthew Wright.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
Yeah, that's not Matt right, it's cause Matthew. Yeah, Matthew.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
Hey, he's an adult. He's gonna buy his full name.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Let's go, let's go. That was for you.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
Matt Christian Harris dn P with a shin injury, Titus
Howard d and P with a concussion, ed Ingram dn
P with a knee injury.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
Wait a minute that wait a minute, we're adding new
more offensive line in the list here.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
Yes, good god, Jalen Petrie dn P with a concussion.
C J Stroud DNP with a concussion. I didn't even
mention Harrison Briant d and P. That's your DMP list, folks.
Limited practice, which you're limited on a Wednesday. Okay, we'll
(23:50):
see Thursday, hopefully upgrade to full practice. Pracxton Barrios has
a chest injury, Dalton Schultz has knee and shoulder injuries.
Full practice, man, I know you're happy. Dylan Horton was
out there with his knee injury. And Yakub Johnson or
Jacob Johnson if you like full practice with a hymn
(24:12):
string injury, the walking wounded Houston Texans with ten players
d n P on Wednesday. Thursday will be big. Friday,
of course, as Matthew laid out, will be the really
big final one. Hopefully you can get some of these
(24:33):
guys these dnps upgraded to limited practices and then either
limited or full on Friday. But this, I mean obviously
the headliners. C J Strouding. We joke saying it's a headliner,
but it's true. Kimie Fairbirn, it's like been one of
the most important Texans this year, last couple of years.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
What do you mean he is one of the most important.
I know he's he's so important that his entire name
should be in the Ring of Honor. I mean they
should go see.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
You're taking it too far, but it's it's actually it's
a huge miss for a for a coach who likes
to kick, and for an offense, it is not very
good in the red zone. You need a reliable kicker.
Nick Chubb, I'm not super worried about whatever. Will Anderson
is gonna be a big one, but I think I
think he's expected to play and if Titus Howard and
(25:25):
edit Ingram are out on your right side, and those
are your those have been your two best linemen all
year long. And by the way, they're not gonna be
Pro Bowlers, which but they're decent.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
Uh. I didn't I looked it up, but I forgot
to bring it up to you, Matthew. Don't tell me
they got it. They got bumped up.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
The offensive line rankings for the Houston Texans.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
Uh huh, And let me let me pull it up.
Hold on, because sometimes when you wanted to get to
twenty five, that was your Chris, that was the that
was the ultimate number of sign of respect.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
Yes, uh, hold on, let me pull it up. I'm
trying here, okay, matt All year long, we have been
waiting for the Houston Texans to hit the top twenty.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
Five, and they are located right now at twenty four. Baby,
Oh my god.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
Okay, Darius Nick Cassario, you did it, the Houston Texans.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
You did it.
Speaker 8 (26:34):
Whatever the name is of that offensive line coach they promoted,
you did it the number.
Speaker 3 (26:40):
Twenty four offensive line in football, according to Pro Football Focus.
Wait a minute, your Houston Texans, Wait a minute, wait,
wait just a minute.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
You know what I'm gonna look something up. This is
I would have disagree with these guys that don't get
Lately you've.
Speaker 3 (27:00):
Been breaking down offensive line film of the Texans.
Speaker 2 (27:02):
You're gonna disagree? Check out my mess up? Maybe you
don't know. Okay, wait a minute, how many times it did?
Wait a minute? Did Money Mills get sacked? On Sunday?
Speaker 3 (27:13):
They surrendered sixteen pressures, including three sacks on forty seven
passing attempts?
Speaker 8 (27:20):
Are you sure?
Speaker 2 (27:23):
What do you mean? Am I sure? I don't hate
no hazard making up stats?
Speaker 3 (27:27):
I told you they could crack the top twenty five.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
It took ten weeks, but they did it. Maybe all right,
here's what' gonna do. I'm gonna give you. I'm gonna
give it a claritive statement, and we're gonna see how
the city Houston feels about. Sure, your Houston Texans have
the twenty fourth best offensive line in the NFL?
Speaker 3 (27:46):
Are you happy they said they? They said it couldn't
be done?
Speaker 2 (27:49):
Baby? Seven? One, three five seven onety one? I tell
you shut up what I tell you? The Texans had
the twenty fourth best offensive line starting at number what
thirty one or three thirty two? Correct?
Speaker 3 (28:00):
Thirty two on the off season.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
I'm calling BS on this. I'm calling what I believe.
Here's what they did. I believe the Texans, Oh, there's
a go ahead, sent hookers to the PFF offices. Are there?
Speaker 3 (28:16):
There's a pro Texans agenda PFF. I got a funny
way of showing it with all these grades in the
last several years.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
Busty strippers that showed up. My god, taking care of
those guys because they don't they don't leave their they
don't leave their spare Benjamin of their parents' house.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
It's not true.
Speaker 2 (28:31):
By the way, did you catch Willie's conversation with me yesterday?
He dropped a pro football Yes, he did. I did
notice that. Isn't that awesome? Yes? How do you feel,
matt about Willie? Love him? Your coaches? You will Your
coach is using PFF. You know what I'm not anti PFF.
You are You're a hater.
Speaker 3 (28:51):
No, I mean again, all you talk about is their
personal lives ad hominem attacks.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
Matthew, it ain't right. We already we've already declared their
poon nouns. We've already discussed this multiple. They just got
a little something because they got a bunch of girls
in from Wren's Club, stopping by that from Houston up
their great up. They said, you know, we'll skip the
film against the Broncos.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
It was fine, Well they're in like Cincinnati or something.
Nobody said nobody is nobody's sending whale Express strippers to Cincinnati.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
What do you think looks better at cincinanti stripper or
a Houston stripper?
Speaker 3 (29:25):
Come on now, eh town, That's what I'm pulling it
down there.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
Quite nice. I've heard so eff Y got some strippers
to fly in from since true not true.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
You're a hater bumped the great up Texans hater Thomas
up to twenty four baby.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
I said they can do it. I believed.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
And your two best offensive linemen have been at Ingram
and Titus Howard and they are.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
Both hurt right now. So good luck, good luck everybody.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
And Josh Heinz Allen kind of kind of mauled arianta
Ursery in week three when did they play, so hopefully
he can bounce back.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
All Right, I'm gonna put it on Twitter and see
what the twitter verse has to on. Okay, because right
now our phone lines are not robust. Hmmm, that's okay.
I mean they're ranking every offensive line. Man, they're breaking
it down. Baby, got about twenty four. Let's go, let's
see what's see. Let's see how Houston reacts to this.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
(30:34):
one three two one two five seven NINTI. When we return,
we'll take anybody's calls about the Texans twenty fourth ranked
offensive line. All right, I need a little bit of
a help. I mean, that's an open ended question.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
Obviously that's gonna say a little bit Rossie.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
I have my phone has been on twenty four hours,
so you know, obviously it says yesterday when all is
missed or a call comes in. Today, I've had fifteen
spam calls this today alone since and it's only ten.
Oh wow, huh.
Speaker 3 (31:09):
I don't know what you're clicking on or doing, Matt.
It's not good if you feel that I've been one
today on the show.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
I got one. I mean, no, I'm not talking about
your I'm not talking about seven one three two one too.
I'm talking about my damn personal cell phone. Yeah, me too.
It relax, No, you guys are just rubbing it in. No,
we're not rubbing it in. Where till I help you.
Speaker 3 (31:28):
We're trying to implet that, we're trying to empathize.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
Now I'm at sixteen. Oh, you're send on leaving voicemails
like they used to Hello, are you there? Hello? We
have some great secure we have some great benefits for you.
This is nuts. I mean, since yesterday, I can probably
say I have at least one hundred since yesterday.
Speaker 3 (31:49):
One hundred. Yeah, yeah, you're on some kind of call list.
I don't know what kind of link you've been clicking
over there, but.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
I don't but I don't want to click it because
I don't want them to have the number. So and again,
if you if I I don't know who you are,
I don't get your the phone doesn't it goes right
to voice man. So that's that's the way I've been
able to stop.
Speaker 3 (32:06):
I get more text than calls like hey, hey, it's
me and stuff like that from random numbers.
Speaker 2 (32:13):
Mine on Facebook is hey I we have a lot
of mutual friends. We know each other. I know, I
don't you whore? And she don't respond back. Yeah, all right,
uh ten fifty one on Sports Talk seven Oni coming
up in ten minutes. We'll visit with Imay adunka. We
still got to get to know our astro's pitching new
hitting coach. Also, Rip Ross to a gambling website and
(32:38):
this you Rube n ESPN. Disney stuff is getting super ugly.
Everybody has drawn a line in sand and all I
can tell you is that the folks at the Worldwide
Leader are losing five million dollars or somebody's losing five
million dollars a day. Is it Disney? I thought, I
think it's Disney losing five million dollars a day.
Speaker 3 (32:56):
Yeah, it must be a bigger service than I thought,
because a lot of people are talking about it.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
And apparently the numbers for the game day and the
game broadcasts are significantly down. Well shocking.
Speaker 3 (33:07):
When you take something away from people, they can't watch it,
the numbers go down.
Speaker 2 (33:10):
Yeah. So and then apparently JJ Watt was like, I
didn't get to watch Monda night football because of all
the people. I think I'm worrying about cost cutting. I
would not think that JJ Watt be worried about Rubroup TV.
I mean, no, they can afford regular satellite or cable.
I mean, my goodness, I mean there are some cost
cutting measures out there. I don't think that the term
(33:31):
cost cutting shoe ever being jj wat's vocabulary.
Speaker 3 (33:36):
I mean, I get it, it's twenty twenty five. Just
use the web based stuff. I've been using Rubo and
quite frankly, I'm not satisfied with it.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
Yeah, we use web stuff here at the office and
it's working out fine.
Speaker 3 (33:50):
By the way, one quick note, Matt, we can go
through later on in the show. ESPN has ranked its
top fifty Major League Baseball free agents with contract projection.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
Right, all right, good, just save that first slow part
of the show.
Speaker 3 (34:04):
I mean, we know who number one is. But also
I think it's been interesting to kind of see where
people have been on from er Valdez and Alex Bregman
and others.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
Yeah, we needed that for sure. Let's go to Buddy
Stephen calling us from LA at ten to fifty three.
Our first call today, calling from someone at eight fifty
four Pacific time. Love and good morning.
Speaker 7 (34:23):
Hey, good morning, guys, how are you today?
Speaker 5 (34:25):
Good?
Speaker 7 (34:28):
I was watching the Rockets game last night, specifically the
the Memphis broadcast, and they were pretty much flabbergasted on
how how you guard this team? And it kind of
reminded me of this this saying that CJ. Stroud has
been kind of saying all year when things are going
(34:49):
bad with the offense, which is death by a thousand cuts,
and it kind of reminded me of how this offense
is so effective this season so far, which is, I mean,
this offense is deaf by a thousand beets. I mean
because you can't double everybody, you know, Uh. I think
Alfred and Kad are doing great jobs when they're getting
(35:10):
double teamed finding the open man. And Amon is uh,
I mean, he is so good at that dunker spot.
It's just like it's incredible, Like it's so much fun
to watch. I mean, obviously there's gonna be some regression
throughout the year, but if this team can maintain somewhat
of this three point shooting, uh, and obviously they're the
(35:33):
free throw shooting is is been great so far too.
I Mean, obviously all of this is a small sample size,
but it's not nothing, but it just there's a there's
so much to like about this team. And they're so deep.
I mean, that's that's what's so crazy about this team
so far, is that they're very deep. They're very good,
(35:54):
and you know, the competition's been kind of you know,
so far. So there's gonna be some challenges coming up,
but there's just so much to like. It's it's been
a lot of fun watching watching this team so far,
and uh, buffle up because I think this is gonna
be a hell of a year to anybody who's not
watching so far.
Speaker 2 (36:14):
But thanks guys.
Speaker 7 (36:15):
I'm gonna listen to you while I sit in traffic
on the four or five freeway.
Speaker 3 (36:19):
Oh that's the Anti Christ Freeway right there, Steven, thank
you for that. Just sit there and relax, and as
they've gotten older, traffic's gonna happen. Just sit there and
relax and listen to something ross. You'll be on the
four or five on Friday night.
Speaker 2 (36:32):
Well, I'm gonna be in Long Beach. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (36:33):
Well I'm gonna get I'm flying into Long Beach, so yeah,
I'll be.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
I'll be in l A.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
I'll be westward for for a week, clearing my mind,
getting away from it all. Vacation time to burn and
I will use it.
Speaker 2 (36:48):
Yes, you should. I have zero issues with you that.
I've always encouraged that. By the way, the next test
for the Rockets will be coming up these next two games.
I mean San Antonio tomorrow and I here in the
Animal City, and then Milwaukee on Sunday. Then you got
Washington and Portland back to back, which should be wins.
Speaker 6 (37:04):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
And then you got a match up a week from
Sunday against Orlando. Orlando's kind of disappointing so far this year,
but they're not terrible. Cleveland's excellent, and got Denver. I mean,
the schedule is gonna start get a little more difficult.
Speaker 3 (37:13):
Yeah, although the Spurs have lost two straight and Wemby
has been limited in the last two games. Yep, he's
getting doubled in. He's getting doubled in triple team. Now, well, yeah,
the league has woken up exactly.
Speaker 7 (37:25):
No.
Speaker 3 (37:25):
Yeah, we'll see how he adjusts. But he's he's been
poor in the last two games.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
I mean, frankly, you're gonna you'd rather have Devin Vesel
beat you, or try to have den Vesel beat you
than Victor Wibbin Yama. I mean it is what it is, Yes,
all right, Uh, we will get to some rocket chatter
coming up. As matter of fact, in a just a
few moments here on the Matt Thomas Show, ross I
Medoka is resting comfortably. I'm assuming after a squad last
night beat the Memphis Grizzlies ten fifty seven Sports Talk
seven ninety seven to one three two one two five
(37:54):
seven nine. If you want to chime in, seven to
one three two one two five seven ninety two is
the Matt Thomas Show with Ross. Last night, Memphis Rockets
pick up another victory, five in a row, knocking off
the Grizzlies. Talk about it for ten minutes here on
the radio program. He's the head coach of your Houston Rockets.
(38:15):
I may Adoka here on the program. Emate's Matt ROSSA
good morning to you. You need to punch him up there,
it is coach. I didn't have Josha Koge three straight
threes on my Bengo car from last night? Did you
have that on your card?
Speaker 6 (38:32):
With the attention that our brand and Kevin tract, somebody's
gonna get open looks and he was the recipient obviously
was confident.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
Knock him down. It's really good to have it. We
were talking about in the first hour doubling Houston Rocket
players right now, it's a pretty risky situation for opponents,
would you agree?
Speaker 6 (38:51):
Yeah, We're we're getting to our spacing, guys, are. Our
outlets are there, and guys are gonna be unselfish for
the most part and make the right read except those
guys and shoot the ball with confidence. And our numbers
are showing that guys are put into his work. And
like I said, when you got guys that attract all
that attention, I'm in as well. Getting downhill, somebody's gonna
(39:11):
be left open and they're taking their gamble and we're
making them pay.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
Right now, you are well north of forty from three,
number one in the association at least last night in
the numbers. Look, that's just hard work. Is that also
good looks? Not having a hand in the face the
extra pass? What do you attribute and hopefully it lasts
for a long time. But the rapid increase in the
amount of success from three point range so far this year, Yeah,
(39:35):
all the above.
Speaker 6 (39:36):
Like I said, when you have guys that you know
they're gonna score, if you don't put two three bodies
on them, they're gonna leave guys open and try to
make we do the same thing. We double guys and
we'll live with certain shots. But our guys will put
a ton of work this offseason understanding who they're playing,
with and so for us, it's just keep it simple,
make make the easy pass, and we'll get those wide
(39:57):
open looks. And once you continue to knock those down
up to guard one on one and then our stars
can get loose.
Speaker 3 (40:04):
And what about the offense Obviously has been one of
the best in the league, but I think it can
get even better, especially with respects to the turnovers that
were better last night. How do you go about improving
that with a roster that doesn't have a ton of
great ball handling, has some good ball handling, but some
guys who can be a little bit prone to turn
(40:25):
the ball over.
Speaker 6 (40:27):
Yeah, it's like we said, keep it simple. We don't
over penetrate. Excuse me, don't over penetrate. Just make the
simple pass. You know, we saw what the effect it
had on this opening night. Way too many turnovers against
o Case. We've tried to improve on since then. You know,
the last game against Dallas wasn't our best seventeen for
seventeen points, but ten in the first half yesterday only
(40:49):
three in the second half. So we made a point
emphasis and guys really took care of the ball, made
simple play and let the other guys be recipients.
Speaker 2 (40:56):
Like I said, I was, let's get into Kochie a
little bit. I love him so far in terms of
just doing a little bit of everything. What did he
get on your radar and what did you think about
him coming into where he was last year and what
he's been able to produce for you right now.
Speaker 7 (41:11):
Well, we knew he felt into what we do really well.
Speaker 6 (41:14):
You know, another tough, hard nose, versatile defender that's gonna
offensive rebound, slash, crash and do the things that we do.
You know, obviously the three point shot, it had been
a little up and down this career so far, but
like I said, when you're getting these open looks and
our guys are putting into work, and we were letting
them know, take these shots, they're the right shots, don't
pass them up. And then we obviously are really good
(41:36):
at offensive rebounding.
Speaker 2 (41:37):
So for us, it was great.
Speaker 6 (41:40):
It was a late pickup and our last last signing
and free agency, and with the injuries to Dorian and
Jay Shawan coming into season, we knew we needed another defender,
another body until guys were healthy. And obviously he's been
a pleasant surprise. But the work he's put in and
you know to be a late signing and in addition
that was kind of there for depth. We love his
(42:01):
versatility brings another defender, so a man can take a
little bit of a break at times, and he's, like
I said, he's making guys pay when they double off
of an outre and or.
Speaker 3 (42:09):
Kevin ROCKETEC coach Imanidoka was here on Sports Talk seven ninety.
We know Kevin Durant and Alprin, Shangunam and Thompson getting
a lot of the headlines, but I feel like Jabari
Smith Jr. Has been and can continue to be a
real X factor for you guys with what he does
defensively shooting thirty nine percent from three as well. Just
your thoughts overall on how much he can impact and
(42:33):
raise the level of you guys game on both ends
of the floor.
Speaker 6 (42:37):
Yeah, I mean, we've talked about it since I've been here.
We need our young guys to take these tip to
take these jumps and him I'm in and they'll they've
all done that Tari as well. We need reading all
our guys to continue to grow. And so you know,
we said it with with Fred and Dylan and the
events that we brought in from day one and now Kevin.
You know, they're going to do what they do and
(42:57):
add to the team. But we want our biggest growth
will be from our young guys taking these jumps, and
so Jabari has obviously done that with his body, confidence, aggressiveness.
Speaker 2 (43:06):
He saw that.
Speaker 6 (43:07):
You know, I saw a month after the season last
year he had booked up already. He got strong, put
in the work and you know, once again, if you
have these really good players, you're going to have lesser
defenders on your times and you got to win those matchups.
And then his versatility on defense allows us to do
so much. You know, he's guarding anybody from twos the
fives on given nights and switching on the ones, and
(43:30):
so the length and size that we have and he's
a huge part of what we do.
Speaker 3 (43:34):
Speaking of wanting to see some improvement from some young guys,
read Shepherd. How do you assess his season so far?
Early on both good and bad.
Speaker 6 (43:43):
Yeah, he continued to be to be confident and aggressive,
and that's the main thing with him. We've said that
from day one is know what you're out there for.
You're going to play off these guys and you're one
of the best shooters in the league, So don't pass
them shots. Take those shots, and be aggressive on the
defensive ends. Continue to put him in situations where he's
gonna have to to grow and improve. And so we're
not scheming up anything to hide him or anything like that.
(44:05):
These garden guys. We're switching on to John Rant one night,
we're switching on to this Cooper Flag one night. And
he needs this in game experience to improve on that area.
And so our thing is, you know, he has really
good hands and sometimes he lets guys go to to
get those reaches and gambles who wanted to move feet
a little.
Speaker 2 (44:21):
Bit and take on those challenges.
Speaker 6 (44:22):
And so, you know, a few games into the season
so far, he's improved and we're gonna need the shooting,
his ball handling, you know, his secondary point guard for
us out there, and with the amount of you know,
he played forty seven games last year, so he's still
getting it, getting the experience under his belt, and every
game is n experience for him.
Speaker 9 (44:43):
Four.
Speaker 2 (44:43):
Let you're running, man, we got san Antonio tomorrow night.
Have you, as a coach philosophically changed your ideology about
guarding Wemby today, then maybe you did when he was
a rookie couple of years back.
Speaker 6 (44:58):
No, No, really, we've done We're going to do what
we've done before. And then at times, you know, we
had a really good defender for those type of guys
dealing Brooks with. You know, we put him on him
and cat and you know, all the all the stretch
forwards and fives.
Speaker 2 (45:11):
That take advantage of bigger guys.
Speaker 6 (45:13):
And so we have a lot of a lot of smaller,
tough defenders that we can throw at him and then
have some length and size behind it. And so you know,
he's shot the three now as consistent as he is now,
but he's doing some of the same things at a
higher level now. So we still want to be aggressive
and behaysical with them. Put guys on the neck and
climbing to him, take away his airspace and force him
(45:35):
to help. And so we've had success doing that so far.
Speaker 2 (45:38):
Is it overly simplicit to say, try to get him
outside of that comfort zone, get him beyond fifteen seventeen
feet or is that just other other ideologies behind that.
Speaker 6 (45:49):
No, I mean, he brings the ball and be shooting
some D three, so you can't just guard him in
those areas, although we do want to be physical in
those spots. You know, he's all over the court doing
many different things, handling, setting screens, rolling to the basket, popping.
So he's obviously a very complete player. So if to
have somebody that can match up to him in all
different areas on the court, and like I said, send
(46:12):
him to certain help and then obviously got to keep
them off the glass with his size.
Speaker 2 (46:16):
All right, ross final one for you.
Speaker 3 (46:20):
How about the other guys on San Antonio Spurs? A
lot of talking Wimby, but they've been a more complete team.
What else are you seeing from the San Antonio Spurs
not named Victor Webbiniama.
Speaker 6 (46:31):
Yeah, complementary crew, that's that's We're playing really well off him.
Young guys that are improving as well. He got Castle.
You have Vasel out there on. Harper's injured now, but
he was playing well. But their additions have been good.
They're veteran additions to Cornett and then Harrison Barnes and
so really good players. We think they don't have Darn
Fox back yet, but they've played extremely well off of
(46:54):
Webbyama and to their credits, just like us with Kevin
and Alper and those guys. You know, team going to double.
You know teams are going to crowd those guys, and
those guys have been really good at making making teams
pay for it.
Speaker 2 (47:07):
You May thanks the time, congratulations in the great start.
I enjoyed the day off today, and we'll visit with
you tomorrow night before the game against Spurs. We appreciate
it as always.
Speaker 5 (47:15):
I just thank you guys, all right.
Speaker 2 (47:17):
See you May Rockets head coach with us here from
San Antonio. Eleven eleven is the time, real quick we
get to a break. Some sad news for Eric Spolstra.
Came home from a road trip and his house among
about twenty different homes in Miami in flames. Looks like
the entire home is destroyed. Not the way you want
(47:38):
to come hover any from a road trip man, to
have that happen. If you look at the NBA Central website,
it's showing pretty graphic stuff. No injuries are reported, thankfully
the fire did not spread to other residences. But he
comes home and he is seated outside his home as
fire crews are battling flames. Yike's tough situation there, so
sorry to hear about that for Eric Spolstra. All right,
(47:58):
we got I just don't get it. Come out up
at the bottom of the hour, ROSSI is anything in
your life you don't get these days a ton, anything
that comes fresh to mind, something fresh for the show. Yeah,
we'll see. All right, we got the Rotten five today,
twelve fifty ready for that way? Yeah, because you didn't
do it last week. The evidence of that, no, no, no,
people out of you. Oh.
Speaker 3 (48:20):
I got more people backing me up than people that
outed me.
Speaker 2 (48:22):
So yeah, when you put the Buffalo bills and the
Cantacy chiefs.
Speaker 3 (48:25):
That's that person was confused to do it. That person
was on mushrooms.
Speaker 2 (48:30):
I'm gonna handle I believe it or not today, So
you are from that? Yeah, I figure you know, when
you do Rotten five, you put the time and effort
behind that. I can at least handle one segment. That's good.
I'm already in vacation mode. That doesn't make me feel good.
You know what that was? You saying that? You know
what makes me think I'm just kidding? Makes me want
(48:50):
to be petty? Oh oh what does that mean? What
are you gonna do? Ummm? I won't say it on
here because I don't be rude. I do love you,
but it's just just a I could say something about
your your travel journey tomorrow, That's all I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (49:05):
Okay, oh yeah, that you hope I get caught I
miss my flight. Yeah no, yeah, I mean apparently though,
who is it. I've been checking the security websites every day.
My parent's only nine minutes at hobby right now.
Speaker 2 (49:20):
Hopefully it's four hours tomorrow. I mean, hopefully have a
nice shape for I did it. That's me being patty.
That's terrible. Fine, No, it's not it's not nice.
Speaker 3 (49:30):
I'm used to it at Tigreen. Changing those stripes fair enough.
Speaker 2 (49:34):
Seven one three two one two five Sevenati we get
to meet the Astros hitting coach next. It's eleven thirteen
on Sports Talk Sevnati all right, uh, thanks you forgetna
(49:58):
get made, for joining us program, Thanks for all of
you for joining us. Thanks to Steven and Los Angeles.
We we do all the two one three, Rossie, I
think our shows number one on in LA. We don't talk.
We do we don't do very we do very well.
We don't get into deep Dadger talk, although we play
the Dodger podcast promo and nauseum.
Speaker 3 (50:16):
On the Finally they stopped running those when the World
Series was over. Can we how how tone death?
Speaker 2 (50:23):
Can we be? I heart which I love you? Please
keep me employeed we love you. I heart Yes, have
been a huge part of You have helped me raise
my children, feed me, close me, keep me warm. You've
given me so many great opportunities. I just don't understand
why you would think that we would think that people
in Houston were wanting her a Dodger podcast.
Speaker 5 (50:41):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (50:42):
And it's not even they're not there.
Speaker 3 (50:44):
It's in Milwaukee or Miami, or nobody wants wherever.
Speaker 2 (50:49):
No, just just just what do they call it? Geo
something at geo Fence, Yeah, geofence it to people in
southern California because at the people in La La has
got a huge radio they would love to hear that podcast.
You know what I gotta do. I gotta bring back
plankos and power bombs and see if you yo, you
wanted to go to national Well tell me is another
(51:13):
podcast in America that will do pro wrestling and game
shows in the same conversation. I don't think so. Yeah,
that should probably give you a pause. Well, it's trying
to be something different here. You are you. You are different, Matt,
You're very unique. If you live in Houston, would like
to talk to us, we will. We will gladly take
your phone call. We got I just don't get it
coming up at the best. We are all right. So
(51:33):
let's introduce ourselves to Victor Rodriguez. He is the new
hitting coach for the Astros. According to AI, you know A,
I never let you down.
Speaker 6 (51:42):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (51:42):
He joins the team after spending the spending the last
two seasons as the hitting coach with the San Diego
p Andres. He has previous experience as an assistant hitting
coach with the Red Sox and the Cleveland Guardians. What
happened with the Padres, I mean, I guess his contract
(52:02):
was up. I don't know. I mean maybe he was
tired of those uniforms they wear. Maybe he said the
cost of living is too expensive.
Speaker 3 (52:12):
Yeah, this is sixty four years old, by the way, Okay,
I mean I don't want a stereotype, but if he's
sixty four is there's gonna be a lot of bunting
going down?
Speaker 2 (52:23):
Or what to do? The Red Sox won the World
Series in twenty thirteen, when he was the assistant hitting coach.
They finished second in average and first in OPS. The
twenty eighteen Indians now Guardians finished second and average, fourth
in OPS, and six in home runs. And in twenty
twenty four, the Potres led major League Baseball on average
and it hits. I don't hear the word bunt anywhere
(52:45):
in that conversation. Okay, that sounds great. So there'll be
no bunting in twenty twenty six with the Astros, and
I'm all for that. Well, I just I know people
are gonna get upset.
Speaker 3 (52:54):
I mean, like I welcome Victor Rodriguez with open arms.
Speaker 2 (53:00):
People. You should will You were such a you were
such a centron hater.
Speaker 3 (53:04):
I mean, oh, stop, let's see Astros fifteenth and tm
ops last year.
Speaker 2 (53:13):
What'd you say the Padres were?
Speaker 3 (53:17):
They were second, and it hits there were sixteenth in
t ops. No, oh they were worse. And weighted runs created?
Oh actually no, they're better on one plus. What did
you just say again, WRC plus, Matt, Come on now, oh,
weighted runs are okay? I knew a WRC ummm, yeah,
(53:40):
it's fine.
Speaker 2 (53:41):
Uh, we did great, and I'm very encouraged about what
he's gonna do to make you know Taylor Trammelle even
a better here than he was a year ago. Provided
the tailor camels and the twenty sixth man rouster.
Speaker 3 (53:52):
You know what, I'm just gonna try to take some
deep breaths and not stirp any more trouble than I
normally do. I welcome Victor Rodriguez with open arms.
Speaker 2 (54:02):
We do twenty hours of radio a week. If you're
holding back anything, you're not doing yourself or this show
any good. So go ahead and say what you gotta say.
All right, let's get it out of your system, and
then I'll either back you up or call you cruel,
mean and insensitive.
Speaker 3 (54:14):
Well, okay, everybody who wanted Victor, who wanted Troy Snicker
and alex Inron gone? Who Snicker got hired within three
weeks to the Mets to be their hitting coach, And
now Centron is with the Rangers apparently, and these guys
clearly aren't thought of. It's bumbling idiots along Major League Baseball.
Let's just show grace to our friend Victor Rodriguez. He's
(54:35):
not here to reinvent the wheel.
Speaker 2 (54:38):
Yeah, leave Victor alone. We were praying for Victor.
Speaker 3 (54:41):
Are already doing that. Yeah, they haven't played a game yet, besteam.
Speaker 2 (54:49):
Yeah, I'm gonna give all of you that are Astro
fans a couple of months to memorize his name. So
when you called the test shows next year, you can't
say the hitting coach needs to be fired and then
we say to you, what's his name, and then you
don't know. It's Victor Rodriguez. Now, whether he brings an
assistant with him or he is a co hitting coach,
(55:09):
like a lot of teams have done, including the Astros,
that remains to be seen. But you need to know
the name Victor Rodriguez. He is your hitting coach. You
don't you don't mix him up with other people. You
don't call him Alex Centron. You don't ask for the
Astros a fire their hitting coach fifteen games of the season.
You don't go Nick Kayley is a terrible hitting coach
(55:29):
for the Astros. You get your you get your positional coaches. Correct,
Victor Rodriguez, Welcome to h Town.
Speaker 3 (55:37):
Thirteen seasons in Triple.
Speaker 2 (55:39):
A, Well, I mean, Joe A spot. I had a
Triple A career kind of I don't think it was
that lengthy, but he you know, thank thirteen, that's media
hit two nice stories career.
Speaker 4 (55:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (55:56):
Oh, and that's what I'm saying. I bet you. My
guess is if you're thirteen years in the minor leagues,
that would put you probably in the thirty to thirty
two year old range when you were doing it, which
means you were buying booze for a lot of underage people.
Oh maybe he's got a criminal pass. We don't know
these things. I hope not. Matt. You just told everybody
to take it easy on them. You're right.
Speaker 3 (56:16):
The story the triple thirteen years and Triple A stories
have to be better than thirteen years in major league stories, right, No,
never to think that, really, no major league story. Oh
we went out, we got drunk, and we all got
laid because we're major league players.
Speaker 2 (56:31):
Minor leagues.
Speaker 3 (56:32):
You're getting mixed up in stuff.
Speaker 2 (56:34):
Minor leagues. We went to the Golden Corral and stole
steak fingers off the bat exactly. People don't.
Speaker 3 (56:40):
Yeah, and that sounds way more intriguing.
Speaker 2 (56:45):
I used to think the way that you thought. But
money and uh uber EXL and women waiting for Excel and.
Speaker 3 (56:57):
Black, That's what I'm saying. You gotta go earn it
out in trip. Everybody's waiting for you in the majors.
Speaker 2 (57:04):
Have a Triple A girl in Omaha is a little
different than Triple A girl in New York City or
major leaguerl that's a better story, Okay, I mean we can,
we can agree to disagree. That's true. By the way,
Charlie Sheen is on a podcast and Vernon Maxwell's and
finally those two guys party together back in the nineties.
(57:26):
That makes sense. So so that furthers my point. Charlie
Sheen isn't partying with a CBA player or a G leaguer.
That's true, Vernon Maxwell. So you don't tell me. You
mean to tell me you don't think a Charlie Sheen
Vernon Maxwell story can beat a Triple A story. I
believe it can.
Speaker 3 (57:44):
I think you're gonna get mixed in more and more
felonious activities in Triple A could get interesting.
Speaker 2 (57:49):
At a cheap at a cheaper rate in a lower
brand hotel. Yes, put it that way. That's wrong. What's
wrong with that?
Speaker 5 (57:57):
You know?
Speaker 2 (57:58):
All right?
Speaker 3 (57:58):
Fantom man level ever, I mean you shut up, you
get the team provides you with your hotel room.
Speaker 6 (58:06):
They do.
Speaker 2 (58:06):
But I mean I've been provided. But I mean, yeah,
you're right, you know.
Speaker 3 (58:10):
And I got a new nickname for you, pampered Empty.
Speaker 2 (58:13):
I like that one.
Speaker 3 (58:13):
Whatever you call me, whatever you want, we'll call your
high horse Matt, fancy Matt, five diamond Matt, pampered into,
pampered Matt.
Speaker 5 (58:22):
I do like it.
Speaker 2 (58:25):
I mean, it's it's it's it's it's the best part
of the job. Put that way. Seven one three two.
I mean I'm gonna fully a minute seven one three
two one two five seven ninety if you want to
join the show today seven one three two one two
five seven Honey Ross. And the answer can't be me.
What don't you get? All right? If there's something in
your life you do not get seven one three two
(58:46):
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven Hounty Ross. Myself, Jonathan, we have three
different perspectives on life. We can help you with any
of your issues. If you just don't get something.
Speaker 10 (59:02):
Do you have something in your life that you just
don't get, No need to worry, no need to We
will discuss with something to see if we comprehend the
things that they can.
Speaker 2 (59:14):
Use our brands.
Speaker 10 (59:14):
It's time to say I just don't get it.
Speaker 2 (59:24):
All right, this is what we do one half hour
a week. We kind of come together as grown men
and sometimes women call the show, and uh, we think
to ourselves, hey, we got predictedments of our life and
what can we do to get good advice from three
radio people. That's Matt Ross, Jonathan, It's I just don't
get it here on Sports Talk seven night Now, Jonathan,
(59:45):
We're gonna let you go first this week because you're
a young man and you're always trying to navigate these
murky waters of life as a young man. So I
always feel like you've got something in your life you
just don't get and me and Ross, being a little
bit older than you, can certainly give you the sage
advice you've been so desperately needing.
Speaker 11 (59:59):
Okay, maybe you can help me out with you know,
when you're talking to somebody and maybe they're telling a
story or whatever, or say, you guys know a certain
person and they start to sense it off and says, oh,
guess who said this?
Speaker 2 (01:00:12):
And you know I'll go let oh Ross, No.
Speaker 11 (01:00:16):
No, no, guess again, guest, No, guess guess I just guessed?
Speaker 2 (01:00:19):
Why and then the upset. I just I'm not going again.
What's the point?
Speaker 5 (01:00:23):
What do you?
Speaker 7 (01:00:23):
What do you?
Speaker 11 (01:00:24):
What do you get out of that? Like I already guessed,
I answer your question, I got it wrong. Do you
want to want me to keep getting wrong for your
own satisfaction? I don't understand that. I really don't get that.
Speaker 3 (01:00:33):
Hmm.
Speaker 2 (01:00:35):
So let me put this in perspective. You are the
you'll never believe who said this? And then when you
give a guest and they don't give you the right answer,
you don't want to continue to guess for fifteen minutes?
Is what you're trying? Oh? Yeah, well the story I
already guessed. I mean, what else do you want? At
least I gave me that. You know what, I'm gonna
go with you. I just don't get it either, because
I do like making things about trivia, But there are
(01:00:56):
people in my life that like, how much did this cost?
I'll give you three guesses, and then the person will
say to me eighty dollars. No, just tell me. There
are people that don't want to play the guessing world.
People don't want to make everything a trivia game. And
I am one of those people. So I will say
this ROSSI, Jonathan, I just don't get why people do that. Either.
You give the one guess you don't get it wrong.
(01:01:16):
You then announced what it is.
Speaker 3 (01:01:18):
I guess it's to the build drama. It's just see,
I know something you don't, but you already built the drama.
Speaker 2 (01:01:24):
I know something you don't know. I don't know. I'm
in a moment with you, guys. I'm just trying to
think out loud. Don't attack me. No, no, because again
I am that person, Jonathan, and I apologize. I am
the one that we want to give you make You
give me five potential answers before you give me the
right before I finally spill it to you. And sometimes
(01:01:44):
you don't have time for that. You want to get
to the conversation. You'll never believe. Uh who was at
this party?
Speaker 6 (01:01:51):
Well?
Speaker 2 (01:01:51):
Who? Uh take a guess, john No. I mean you're
not going through eighty people in your life. So Jonathan,
I understand the troubles you're going through. You want to
get right to the meat of the conversation. So I
understand why you don't get it. And it's very fair.
Thank you for that. Rook them you know you rocklem.
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (01:02:13):
You'll never believe what I had on the plane last night, Ross,
shrimp cocktail.
Speaker 2 (01:02:18):
Nope, see, no man did that.
Speaker 3 (01:02:24):
He did this yesterday. You'll never guess who texted me,
but I guess it did on the first guess you.
Speaker 2 (01:02:28):
Did guess on the first guess I had lamb chops
on a plane, Okay, just passed down along and who
would have guessed lamp chops. Nobody? That's why you'd been
here forever. It helps us kill some time going through
every meeting linguini, no shrimp, no salmon, and linguine So
(01:02:54):
uh yeah, it was a lamp You know, you never
you don't realize what your stomach's going through in life
when you until you knock back some lamb chops at
eleven forty Central time.
Speaker 5 (01:03:02):
Hm.
Speaker 3 (01:03:02):
Hm, No, that's actually sounds pretty good. I mean it's
pretty light, lamb it was.
Speaker 2 (01:03:07):
It wasn't terrible. I'll tell you that. Ross. What don't
you get a couple things now? I will start with this.
Speaker 6 (01:03:15):
Now.
Speaker 3 (01:03:16):
I'm not saying this because there was a uh. I
think it was a dtackle who like decommitted from Texas, recommitted,
and then decommitted again. I think within forty eight hours.
Don't quote me on this because I didn't investigate, but
in general, and I'm not saying I don't even know
who this guy was until like this week, so it's
I'm not saying this because it's Texas or whatever. Why
(01:03:36):
are athletes even committing like years before they even go
to a school In this day and age, it feels
like you hear more about d commits than commits. And
I understand I'm not mad at him necessarily, like you
want to get the biggest offer you have interest from schools.
Speaker 2 (01:03:52):
I mean, I just don't get why we.
Speaker 3 (01:03:56):
Are announcing our commitment, especially like a year out, and
then these recruits are changing their commitments like five different
times before they go to.
Speaker 2 (01:04:04):
School because they're start They're starving for attention, right, I
guess is that what we're gonna go with that?
Speaker 11 (01:04:12):
Just to explain, And a lot of these instances as well,
these kids will automatically, oh, I'm getting committed here, but
they will be on behind the scenes. They'll just got
a phone call or be like, oh we want you,
not an official commit no paper is being signed, and
they will go on social media so they can be
up like oh I'm power five, I'm this this this
(01:04:32):
I'm going to this program, when they probably don't even
get the money for it. They probably okay, we'll let
you walk on and maybe give you some academics, but
they don't get that till later after they get to
the visits and all that stuff. It's like how Matt says,
you're just you're being an attention you know, you just
want that attention, you want that spotlight on you. And
because there's no point for you to tell tell anybody
that you're decommitted from school.
Speaker 2 (01:04:51):
But there's no point in that.
Speaker 11 (01:04:52):
And then they do it after like oh I got
a better offer, like oh, like and they're trying to
make the school look bad, but the coach is probably
saying like, oh, you know, the other coach probably came.
Let's say I'm getting recruited yout right, and it's an
unofficial visit. Okay, cool, I'm gonna put it commit. I'n'na commit. Yeah,
like they want me da da da, And then Lamar
is like, oh, we'll pay you full ride, come here.
(01:05:14):
Oh I'm gonna decommit. And they're not gonna say who
are going to that's gonna go. It's a drum up interest.
Speaker 2 (01:05:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (01:05:19):
And then they'll just have like the five oh these
are my five options, and it'll be like all power
five and Lamar and then you go to Lamar like
you know what I mean, no say to Lamar, but
that's what they do.
Speaker 2 (01:05:28):
No, there's no shame ever. The reality is this today's children,
and I have one myself. They're starving for attention and
the easiest way to get that attention is through TikTok,
their Twitter, their Instagram and their Twitter accounts. No if answer,
but this is a one attention grab for this to
commit thing, right.
Speaker 3 (01:05:48):
But I mean I'm saying institutionally as well, like we
should just we should just throw this out. I don't
know the NC DOUAA doesn't necessarily get involved with a
high school player saying where they're gonna play school, But
it's like she just completely do away with commitment that
this d tackle I had it wrong. Committed in June,
so it's like five months ago he committed, and he's like, yeah,
(01:06:11):
Texas all the way, that's fine, he can go wherever
he wants. He's from Louisiana. I'm guessing gonna go to
l SU or something like that. But it's just or
stark partly told him can start till the commitment. No,
they need to tackle the commitment cycle. It's just I
find it bizarre.
Speaker 2 (01:06:31):
Well, I hope you guys are proud of my daughter
when she committed to Roy and she she's not waivered
from that.
Speaker 3 (01:06:37):
That's good parenting right there. Well and tell a big
unless the Biger offer swoops in last minute.
Speaker 2 (01:06:41):
Well, the reality is this. I told her. I said,
she's very set for playing the four years. And I said, yeah,
that would mean a lot to me if you could
stay at one school, because I think there is a
little bit of adjustment going from school to school to school.
It's a huge It's just I don't I think maybe
one movie is okay, but if these kids today are
moving from year to year to year, like the guy
at Oregon Say, who was the backup of Texas been?
(01:07:03):
Was it the Oregon State? Before that? He was a
duke and then he was a textas. I mean, what
kind of life is that? I mean, I know you're
trying to grab the the NFL pie, but it's just
but I said, look, I want you to play four
years of Rhode Island, but it would I mean, I
won't be disappointed I won't be sad if you say, hey, Dad,
the coaching change or the role has changed, or you know.
(01:07:24):
I mean again, you got to be open minded to it.
But I just think year after year after year is
kind of a again football ball, I bought two different animals.
But yeah, I want I'd love for her to stay
for all four years because that's what we grew up
with Ross. We didn't have guys bounce around like we
do now in twenty twenty five. I mean, people are
staying one year. But it's in what it is. It's
just free agency. So in that respect, I get it. Uh,
(01:07:48):
okay seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven nine zero.
If there's something in life you just do not get
seven one three two one two five seven ninety let's
talk to James with this on seven I eighty James,
what don't you get masked? I don't get why.
Speaker 12 (01:08:07):
Every once in a while you hear on the radio
they gonna we want to shot a women's professional baseball league.
Speaker 13 (01:08:12):
Where are they gonna get the money to do this?
Speaker 5 (01:08:13):
And he's going to back this league? I mean, how
do you go from softball to baseball and be competitive.
Speaker 2 (01:08:21):
Hmmm. I had not thought of that, Honestly, I don't
even I have never I hadn't even heard a word
about this. Have you ross about it? Women's women's base.
Speaker 5 (01:08:34):
I have.
Speaker 3 (01:08:37):
Baseball, No softball, I know softball is the thing, right, No.
I think they're trying to do baseball like their own stuff.
Speaker 2 (01:08:42):
He's talking about a baseball Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:08:45):
Four teams in La San Francisco, New York, and Boston.
Speaker 2 (01:08:48):
There's a lot of travel. It's like it's the new
illega of their own. Who's your favorite le League of
their own character? Uh? Geena Davis, absolutely, le Geena Davis
for the Wind.
Speaker 7 (01:09:03):
For sure.
Speaker 2 (01:09:04):
Least favorite Rosie O'Donnell.
Speaker 3 (01:09:07):
She was comic relief.
Speaker 2 (01:09:11):
Second favorite character of Madonna, just saying it. Yeah, she
was hot, she partied hard. That other one was kind
of hot too. It was her name. Oh oh, the
one that got traded. Yeah, yeah, I know you're talking
about Gina's sister. Yeah. And the poor girl that played
that her husband died at war. That was sad, but
(01:09:31):
that was a great move. I don't mean to be
given to sporters away, Come on, man, all right, Okay,
here's what we got going here, We've got we had
James and client concerned about the Women's Professional Baseball League. Yes,
Brad is with us.
Speaker 3 (01:09:47):
Okay, please can somebody call in?
Speaker 2 (01:09:49):
So here's the rule. Brad's going next unless somebody else
can beat him, and literally anybody with any other topic
can beat Brad's. I just don't get it. I just
feel that very if it's saying that seven one three
two one two five seven Nattie seven one three two
one two five seven ninety, right, Ross is rotten five
to twelve fifty. Believe It or Not today at one fifty,
(01:10:10):
and your phone calls all the way through, it's seven
to one three two one two five seven ninety. If
you don't get Brad, call us and tell us that,
because we'll put you to the top of the list.
Because again, if nobody else calls, Brad is next eleven
forty three on Sports Talk seven ninety. All right, today's
edition of Believe or Not will be a repeat of
a topic, but with a little bit of a Matt
(01:10:33):
Thomas h flair to it. It'll be highly googleble. It'll
be about the travel industry. Ross coming up at at
one fifty this afternoon. So can't wait. All right, you
have to get three in a row correctly to win today?
Three in a row? Three three, not one, not two?
But do you have to get three in a row? Right?
(01:10:55):
All right? On the phones we go. Let's talk to
a Charls on seven, Hunty Charles. What don't you get,
my friend?
Speaker 9 (01:11:04):
I don't get why the Astros haven't locked down Hunter
Brown and Jeremy Faye yet.
Speaker 2 (01:11:10):
Hmm interesting? Interesting? Uh, I will say this, they could.
I don't think they're sitting there going we'll talk to
you in a year from now. My guess is ross
they will spend the next couple of months talking it out,
and I think it will be not a front burner
topic at spring training, but I think it'll be one
of our storylines we discussed this year coming up in
twenty twenty six.
Speaker 3 (01:11:31):
I think I got feeling that it was going to
happen this offseason with Hunter Brown and not with Jeremy Pania.
Speaker 2 (01:11:37):
I'll stick with that. Hm, Okay, so you have one
of the two.
Speaker 3 (01:11:44):
Yes, we'll go one out of the two. Hopefully they
both have Scott boris correct?
Speaker 2 (01:11:52):
Uh, yes, yeah, yep, maybe maybe either of the two
is probably the favorite. I would I'm gonna unfortunately lean
to say that I think it's gonna be both. Don't
get it. That's the favorite I would have. I would
(01:12:13):
believe that. I hope I'm wrong. Wouldn't be nice? If
would it be? Would it be such a different change
of pace, if both guys were signed for the long term,
buying out arbitration, you have to be crazy.
Speaker 3 (01:12:25):
I mean Dana Brown when he was the general manager Atlanta,
well not the general manager Atlanta, but the assistant. They
they paid a lot of guys early. And well, how
about this?
Speaker 2 (01:12:35):
What if I told you? What if I told you
the most intriguing off season maneuver by the Astros is
the resigning of Justin of Erlander. What would you say?
Speaker 3 (01:12:45):
I would say the pitching stats in trouble.
Speaker 2 (01:12:52):
Seven one three, two one two five seven ninety. Let's
talk to Jay on seven on eight. J What don't
you get?
Speaker 14 (01:13:00):
Hey?
Speaker 5 (01:13:00):
Jay?
Speaker 6 (01:13:01):
Man?
Speaker 2 (01:13:01):
I mans you know all the time?
Speaker 14 (01:13:07):
Man like just mine?
Speaker 5 (01:13:09):
Jay?
Speaker 6 (01:13:09):
You know what?
Speaker 2 (01:13:10):
Thank you for calling my friend? I think it is
your phone line you've called before, and you sound equally
ease Sponge.
Speaker 3 (01:13:16):
I think that's just the way that it's just the
way that it clips.
Speaker 2 (01:13:22):
I don't know. I don't know about that one being us. Okay,
I think he's called before and we've had issues before
with him. But you know what, why in doubt blame us.
It's easier to blame us.
Speaker 3 (01:13:32):
You just slipped a little bit. So yeah, I don't
know what's going on.
Speaker 2 (01:13:35):
You know what, it's it's our internet at the office
as such as this. It's fine, rowdy on seven ninety rowdy.
What don't you get well, I don't.
Speaker 9 (01:13:48):
Brad continually to call in for y'all keep bumping callers
in front of him. Take a hand brand, Maybe you
can explain yourself.
Speaker 3 (01:14:02):
But all right, it's definitely us my line.
Speaker 2 (01:14:07):
It's the phone. Uh, not that it matters. This is great.
How you doing? Where you in to San Antonio? Man
at a hotel? How's it going? It's nice. We're gonna
eat sushi tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:14:27):
You're going to San Antonio, Texas and have sushi?
Speaker 2 (01:14:30):
Yes, it's a there's a it's a team event. So
I was invited. I'm gonna go. That's cool. You can't
turn down free sushi, right, Oh, I know you're not
going to, nor would I if it was sloppy. Joe's
I wanted to have turned it down. Yeah, if it's free,
give me three. It's me and Katie hanging out. I'm
gonna we're gonna really tonight, me and drink. We're gonna
have a couple of pieces of sushi and enjoyed life.
Speaker 3 (01:14:50):
How are your chop six skills?
Speaker 2 (01:14:52):
One to ten? Zero? Zero? Let me ask. That's just
a great thing. Glad you brought this up. Okay, So
is it because of the food that you eat and
that's the way you should eat it with chopsticks? Or
is it because people try to think they're cool than
they are by using chopsticks. Because there's really no discernible
advantage to using chopsticks over fork, right, I guess not
(01:15:15):
give me the advantage of the chopstick over the fork
unless you unless your sushi falls apart, because if you
stick your fork in it, or I just pick up
with my hand.
Speaker 3 (01:15:22):
Maybe you don't want to you eat sushi with your hand?
Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
Yeah, of course pick it up. There's small pieces. Why
why wouldn't I use my hand? Well, this is I
just don't get it. I think it's.
Speaker 11 (01:15:36):
Advantages is quicker. I mean, you don't have to stab it.
You can just a little pick up. You can get
very fast with your fingers. You know, some proper etiquette.
I mean, why don't you eat everything with your hands?
Speaker 2 (01:15:48):
It's just I can't eat burgers in my hands. I
don't know. Pasta would be gross. So you can't eat
soup with your hands. Although you could pick up the
soup bowl and just slip it if you want to
do that. I don't do that. Hmm, yeah, I'm gonna
go with I think that people that use chopsticks and
(01:16:09):
that shame you because you don't is a little bougie bougie.
It's wait here.
Speaker 3 (01:16:15):
I mean, it's just I'm eating Asian food. That's how
they eat it, so that's how I eat it. It's
respectful proper etiquette.
Speaker 2 (01:16:22):
I don't think it's I don't think it's disrespectful to
you use a fork. I mean, I don't think there
are people at a sushi use your hands. I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (01:16:31):
I look at that douchebag using a fork. Is child
like to use hands to each sushi. I'm sorry. I
don't mean to be.
Speaker 2 (01:16:40):
Oh, here we go getting shamed to get in a
major market.
Speaker 5 (01:16:43):
See I was.
Speaker 2 (01:16:45):
You can't change your stripes. You just can't. I love you.
Come on, you're eating your sushi with your hands? Are
you six? Yeah? It's a roll? Every what you gonna do?
Come on, man? But I see you're a spatula. We got.
Speaker 6 (01:17:07):
You.
Speaker 2 (01:17:07):
Just what if it's like a fried roll? Like what
if we got the sauce on this? You know, we'll
just bring you an easy mac. You can eat that
on the side. So here's the bit. You know, Craig
got invite it to. Craig is not a sushi eater.
What's he gonna do?
Speaker 3 (01:17:22):
Why don't you guys have a McDonald's beforehand, get a
couple of mcgribs.
Speaker 2 (01:17:25):
I think he can bring a twenty piece of nuggets
with him and he can use them with it. He
can use it with with chopsticks, because if you're in
a Japanese sushi place, you must use chopsticks. You should
be proper. It's very proper. Yeah, it is respectful to
not dip your nuggets into sweet and sour sauce.
Speaker 3 (01:17:44):
Why don't you use your hands? Why don't you go
to Morton's and use your hands? Then nok, you can
just bite the steak.
Speaker 2 (01:17:51):
I mean I guess you could. Man, that wouldn't be
the worst, Aaron and san Antonio. Aaron, what don't you get.
Speaker 5 (01:17:59):
Whoa I don't get why a bull time million dollars
company like iHeart can lay people off and save all
this money and they still can't get tech stuff. Right.
Speaker 2 (01:18:15):
That took you out? That wasn't me bad. Yeah, I
didn't touch anything. No, I didn't touch me. I didn't know,
I guess, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's.
Speaker 3 (01:18:22):
Everything is perfect at iHeartMedia.
Speaker 2 (01:18:25):
I love iHeartMedia. It is the best. These web phones
are amazing. Yeah, I think I got a back connection.
I don't think I heard a word. I don't think
they've heard award the previous callers set, I mean, can
we okay, never mind, you go to Jai jam in
the heights. I'll let you finish your comment. Jim, what
don't you get? Okay?
Speaker 4 (01:18:46):
So I got one obvious one and one petty obvious
one is I can't figure out why this.
Speaker 7 (01:18:52):
This talent is a buzzing over the rockets.
Speaker 4 (01:18:55):
The hell they score seventy points and half several times,
and this is the best team we've seen in years.
Speaker 14 (01:19:02):
So that's that.
Speaker 4 (01:19:04):
What else can we following college football?
Speaker 5 (01:19:05):
That's it.
Speaker 4 (01:19:06):
That's the landscape. The second thing is in.
Speaker 7 (01:19:09):
This one's petty, But I gotta say it.
Speaker 4 (01:19:11):
You guys are going to smack me down.
Speaker 7 (01:19:13):
But hey, you know what, I'm a regular caller. I'm
big black handle it.
Speaker 4 (01:19:16):
The WNBA always is self destructing. And the thing I
don't get, I guess it kind of cracks me up
is why professional basketball players wear wigs during a game.
Speaker 5 (01:19:30):
I just don't get that.
Speaker 2 (01:19:35):
Back connection. For me again, I didn't hear any of that.
Not a word.
Speaker 11 (01:19:43):
We got to defender. Donald just called and told Ross
that he needs to look it up. Eating sushi, which
of fingers is acceptable?
Speaker 2 (01:19:49):
Oh really, thank you, Donald, appreciate you, Love you. The
first part of that phone call I did here before
the back connection kicked in. The first part was about
white people aren't buying into the rockets. Well, well here
you go, Matt.
Speaker 3 (01:20:07):
Yeah apparently, uh yeah, Google says eating sushi with your
fingers is acceptable and often encourage, especially with nagery and
monkey rolls.
Speaker 2 (01:20:18):
Are you having Nigerian monkey rolls? I will absolutely have
Nigerian hockey rolls tomorrow eleven thirty. That'll be the first
one you'll be apologizing for us. You're shaming me in
my sushi style. You know what I was wrong? God,
this is this has been a this is Marconi right here,
this is gonna get us a Marconi A Ward I
was wrong.
Speaker 3 (01:20:39):
Ward's never uttered by role. That's not true this show.
No that we have drops of me saying that before
it happened.
Speaker 2 (01:20:45):
No, I all right, Last, but not least, Brad, What
don't you get my friend?
Speaker 7 (01:20:51):
Uh number one?
Speaker 15 (01:20:53):
How a young twenty four year old starting defensive lineman
or pseudo star either kills himself or dies the guy
the cowboys?
Speaker 7 (01:21:06):
I still don't get it.
Speaker 15 (01:21:07):
I know there's not much time to reveal any information,
but it makes no sense to me. And then the
second thing, why they get rid of Sean and turn
the morning show to total crap? And why don't they
get rid of you, Matt?
Speaker 7 (01:21:25):
Because you were.
Speaker 15 (01:21:25):
Probably making the same money. But I think it ties
in with the rockets, is why they didn't get rid
of you.
Speaker 7 (01:21:32):
Why would they get cheap?
Speaker 15 (01:21:34):
Because they It tells itself. Man, you get, you get cheap,
you get not as good as entertainment. And Sean was
one of the best.
Speaker 2 (01:21:43):
So you'd rather have me fire than Sean? No, I'd
rather have neither of y'all fire.
Speaker 15 (01:21:50):
I think I think you got to stay because of
your Rockets tight. I think just because Sean was making
all that money, they thought getting rid of them was
better than not. I just I don't get it.
Speaker 2 (01:22:03):
That's why I'm asking you, Well, okay, several things. One
I I want to make correct. First of all, Sean
was not fired. Sean was laid off unfortunately, and there
are and I think people in the world today know
what two different things are. It was a workforce reduction
and we are missing him terribly. Secondly, my relationship with
(01:22:24):
iHeartRadio and has nothing to do with my relationship with
the Rockets. I am, I am, I am not I
employed by two different people. And third, shut your ball
ass up? Can I can? I can I work? Is
that okay with you? Brad?
Speaker 3 (01:22:40):
I mean, my goodness, I've been saying to stop taking
his calls for multiple years now, So you just go basically.
Speaker 2 (01:22:47):
Saying, what, Matt, we know the reason why you can
trust me on this.
Speaker 3 (01:22:52):
I'm talking about the Cowboys player who apparently died in
a suicide.
Speaker 2 (01:22:57):
Yeah, we don't know anything about that. Why would we
want to comment worst color of all time? Worst color
of all time? Do you see why we pushed Brad.
At the very end is the Matt Thomas Show with
Ross Houston Rocket It's won twenty four and the Memphis
(01:23:20):
Grizzlies one O nine. Ross. I think it'll be proud
of me, although you can still shame me if you
want to. There is a player, a rookie for the
Memphis Grizzlies name Coward, Cedric Coward. Yes, I called him
(01:23:41):
Colin one time during the game. I knew it wasn't
gonna do it, but then I just did it, so
oh on accident. Yeah, and I will say that that
Cedric Coward is a significantly better NBA player than Colin
Coward ever would be. I would imagine, so.
Speaker 3 (01:23:59):
Cow were not cow heard, yes, but yeah, so yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (01:24:05):
Just made one slot mistake yesterday, and I apologize, and
I wanted to face up to it and say I'm
sorry for the audience that was thinking that Colin Coward
was playing yesterday for the Memphis Grizzlies.
Speaker 3 (01:24:14):
Did you put your pink pinky up when you said
Olivia Markson's prosper He.
Speaker 2 (01:24:19):
Played like a minute and a half or something. It
was over, okay. John Morant looked very disinterested. Time now
for the News at noon at ten minutes past the
hour of twelve. Yess, Matthew.
Speaker 3 (01:24:31):
One quick news item and upon further research, it's really
not common for Japanese people to eat sushi with their hands.
Speaker 2 (01:24:39):
But I digress.
Speaker 3 (01:24:40):
All right, let's go to what's happening the latest with
your Houston Texans, Matt According to DJ bne Me, who
covers the Houston Texans for correct, well, yeah, he covers
the Texans for ESPN.
Speaker 2 (01:24:56):
Okay, so he's legitiman. He's a legitor for as compared
to the watercre out there usually.
Speaker 3 (01:25:01):
Will all right, Will Anderson and Nick Chubb are back
at practice for the Houston Texans ed Ingram Titus Howard,
Jalen peatries so far not spotted. Last two are in
the concussion protocol. So Will Anderson back, that's good? Nick
Chubb Backmas sure went on, Yeah, CJ. Stroud definitely ruled
(01:25:24):
out for the game on Sunday. Yes, it's Kimi Fairbran
also I believe was also ruled out Friday.
Speaker 2 (01:25:29):
It's the Davis Mills show, baby, and WEX are just
putting out there. He did not see Damian Pierce at
practice today.
Speaker 6 (01:25:38):
Hmmm.
Speaker 2 (01:25:39):
During that during the media availability, so it's you know,
there's a little bit of a little bit of wiggle
room there because just because the media doesn't seem doesn't
mean those guys haven't been working out. So there you
have it. And one other quick news, i'da met.
Speaker 3 (01:25:54):
Texans owners Calan halmc cal and Hannah McNair along with
it too, Loan Star Sports and Entertainment investing in a
professional volleyball team in Houston now today that has acquired
the League one Volleyball Houston team.
Speaker 2 (01:26:09):
Yeah. We uh, we talked about a league League one
volleyball quite a bit last year, and uh it's the
women's There's two professional women's leagues and the League one
is one of them. And uh it's great. I'm glad that,
you know, they're diversifying their portfolio a little bit. I
don't know if it's gonna make any money. I don't
know what the ultimate gain is for this, but I
do believe that sometimes sports owners like to own multiple
(01:26:31):
teams and try different stuff. And clearly Hannah realizes how
cool volleyball is. So I applauded the Texans for going
into and investing it in something fledgling like League one volleyball.
Good for them mm hm.
Speaker 3 (01:26:45):
And yeah, we do have to bring up what Brad
said because it's just it's a major sports story. Unfortunately,
Cowboys defensive end Marshawn Neeland, according to law authorities, died
by a self inflicted gunshot wound. There was a chase
and he fled the vehicle and then apparently died after
a self inflicted gunshot wound.
Speaker 2 (01:27:06):
Team statement.
Speaker 3 (01:27:08):
It is the extreme sadness that the Dallas Cowboys share
that marsha Neeland tragically passed away this morning. Marshawn was
a beloved teammate and member of our organization. Our thoughts
and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend, Catalina and
his family.
Speaker 2 (01:27:22):
If you want to see Adam Schefter put the police
report out, yeah, Friscal if you want to see it
on Twitter that way you can see it. But not
much what you can say about that except very very
sorry that life had end because of whatever happened.
Speaker 3 (01:27:33):
He was running from the police. There was a crash
and then self inflicted gunshot wound. Terrible, terrible story, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:27:41):
Anything else news wise, Yes, your Houston Astros have a
hitded coach Matt at least one woman, there'd be more
than one. I'm probably going to be more than one.
Speaker 3 (01:27:50):
Brian McTaggart speaking with people on the Twitter verse talking
about I mean, somebody gave one of my first thoughts.
He had a sixty four year old probably not going
to be too analytically driven, but he thinks that Victor
Rodriguez is going to be more of the relationship coach,
and that they would also add someone else to the staff,
perhaps with a more analytical approach or more analytical forward.
(01:28:12):
So you're probably gonna get multiple guys on the hitting
coaching staff.
Speaker 2 (01:28:16):
So you got the Papa and you have the dirty uncle,
basically coming up two different guys. I don't think they're
going to hire a dirty uncle the cool second cousin
from that lives in Louisville. I don't know something like that.
Speaker 5 (01:28:31):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:28:33):
Good cop, bad cop. Oh that's better. That's perhaps a
better analogy, you know. I mean, they don't call me
mister analogy for a week, No they don't. But there
you go.
Speaker 3 (01:28:43):
That's what's happening in the world of sports right now.
Speaker 2 (01:28:45):
Man, Thank you very much for that. Ross, good job
as always on the news at noon, all right, would
you like to join us. We'd love to have you
at seven one three two one two five seven. Andy.
If you want to take any more shots at my career,
you more welcome to do that at seven one three
two one two. You're doing great, It's fine. I mean
I consider the source. Really, you know, what are you
suspending him? What's going on? Two weeks suspension?
Speaker 9 (01:29:07):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (01:29:09):
Two decades, let's go two decades suspension.
Speaker 2 (01:29:13):
You're you're saying that, you're saying that brake I called
till twenty and forty five.
Speaker 3 (01:29:18):
I mean, everyone hates his calls and he doesn't add
anything to show any.
Speaker 2 (01:29:23):
Low key basically was calling for me to lose my
job over other people. Okay, thank you. I not low
key hi key. Yeah, that was hi key. That was direct.
That was a direct shot. One and Jonathan, Yeah, there
was no there was no shame in that. That was straight.
I told you should get fired. Yeah, why did Sean
have to leave and you got to stay? What do
(01:29:45):
you want me to potentially say? I mean, lord, that's
ten minutes of my life. I'll never get back, all right.
Seven one three, two one two five seven ninety twelve
sixteen is a Matt Thomas show. With Ross. We're with
you today until two O. We've got the Rotten five

I know today. Is Craig in the room with you? Yeah,
he brought me breakfast?
Speaker 3 (01:30:41):
Man, You've got him running new food in every city.
It's the third time crazy.
Speaker 2 (01:30:46):
Yeah, he does it. Wait, but I buy him coffees
and drinks on the road, so we don't cut it
evens out, it evens out right courier fees. Well, I'm glad.
Speaker 3 (01:30:52):
It's just not not just me that you order around
and make do stuff for you. I'm like, Craig does
it too.
Speaker 2 (01:31:00):
Let me ask you this. Do you think I would
do it for him? Nope? I would maybe him, not me,
That's all right. I would definitely buy you stuff and
oh yeah, buy me stuff?
Speaker 14 (01:31:10):
Yeah, all right?
Speaker 2 (01:31:12):
Seven one three two one two five seven. And you
know we have not talked about the Steve balmert Clipper
situation really and it's no, we haven't go We got
to get to that. But I want to get back
to our phone call to that to call back. All right, Jay,
we believe it's your phone line. Is it your phone line?
Is are ours? Go ahead?
Speaker 14 (01:31:30):
I don't know if it's y'all's or mine, But I
just had a question about quarterbacks y'all talking about that
the other day. What's gonna happened to Josh Rosen?
Speaker 7 (01:31:40):
Man?
Speaker 14 (01:31:40):
Like I want to ask that? And then I had
my Rocket edition We're going to go to the Western
Confass Playoffs, Western Content Finals. And then I just want
to know, what do you What do you think about
being the host of seven ninety man? Like, that's all
I got that.
Speaker 7 (01:32:00):
Man, I'm gonna just let.
Speaker 2 (01:32:01):
You go from Man, what do you think about being
a host? I love it. It's it's the greatest part
of my life work wise. I haven't.
Speaker 14 (01:32:08):
Man, everything everybody think that, you know, deserve to even
be that. I like you you good, but like it's
some stuff that some people are not feeling. You know
what you would, It's all good.
Speaker 2 (01:32:21):
I like you, man, Well tell me tell me what
you tell me what they're not feeling. I'm curious about this, Jay,
What are they feeling about me? What have I done
wrong to people?
Speaker 5 (01:32:31):
Man?
Speaker 14 (01:32:31):
I don't know, man, Like that's something for you to say.
I don't know to me. For me, it's just like,
it's kind of like you took bits from other people's shows.
But I'm not concerned about me.
Speaker 2 (01:32:44):
I just want to know people steal from my show, Jay, Jay,
people steal from me? They don't. I don't steal from
other people. What are you kidding? People steal from me?
Speaker 14 (01:32:52):
Have you listened to I need to know whatever happened
to Josh Rosen, man, because they say Josh.
Speaker 2 (01:33:00):
Said, okay quarterback. Yeah it was U c l A,
wasn't it Josh ros the other day?
Speaker 14 (01:33:08):
I was trying to ask about it.
Speaker 2 (01:33:10):
All right, we're here to tell you that jos Josh
Rosen the other day.
Speaker 14 (01:33:14):
Where's he at today?
Speaker 7 (01:33:16):
Where is that guy?
Speaker 2 (01:33:17):
I believe he's a barista at a Starbucks in Poughkeepsie,
New York.
Speaker 7 (01:33:25):
Okay, well that was.
Speaker 14 (01:33:26):
My one day and my sports edition was mats are
going to go to the Western Conference Cans.
Speaker 7 (01:33:32):
And that's all I ad.
Speaker 2 (01:33:35):
All right, thank you.
Speaker 14 (01:33:36):
I'll call you back again, but I'm gonna call you
back again. But that's all I ad for right now.
Speaker 2 (01:33:42):
All right, Well, good, I thank you, Jay. Jay calling
with a Rando quarterback reference of a guy who I
actually thought was good coming out of U c.
Speaker 5 (01:33:52):
L A.
Speaker 2 (01:33:53):
And was a first round pick of the Arizon He
Cardinals who was a complete bust. He is a go
ahead Arizona, Miami, Tampa, San Francisco, Atlanta, and Cleveland. He
was in the league in twenty eighteen and was out
of the league before the season started in twenty twenty two,
so he was he would be a one no if
(01:34:14):
ands erbuts bust.
Speaker 3 (01:34:17):
Huh, All right, well this is he Also he's getting
he's getting his NBA at the Wharton School, which is
a very prestigious business school at Penn.
Speaker 2 (01:34:28):
So there's no chance he's a barist at a Starbucks.
I mean maybe he's making ends meet that way.
Speaker 3 (01:34:33):
He got pretty big signing bonus, I think so yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:34:36):
I mean, think about it. If you were the number
ten pick in the was a twenty fifteen drafts.
Speaker 3 (01:34:40):
So I don't know if he bought a gold plate
at Bentley or anything, but you should have some money.
Speaker 2 (01:34:48):
Thank you j for the warm rousing and daw endorsement
of the show as well.
Speaker 3 (01:34:52):
On top of that, eighteen point seven million dollars.
Speaker 2 (01:34:57):
Down the tubers. Well that's what he made.
Speaker 3 (01:35:00):
I mean, I hope he's he's getting an NBA so
he's probably investing some of it.
Speaker 2 (01:35:05):
Clearly not stupid. That's nice, all right? The hell is
going on to crush in the morning. I asked him,
I said, what am I doing wrong? And he goes, well,
I don't know. You're not doing anything stealing other people's stuff.
(01:35:27):
What hm hmmm. Let me be frank. I hate listen
a lot of sports radio. It's not very entertaining. I mean,
we try to entertain. We're not going to give you
a deep seat of breakdown of Tampa two defense. It's
not going to happen. The show has never been about
(01:35:47):
that and it never will be. We're going to talk
big picture stuff. We're going to get into some conversations
about all the different teams. We're not going to bludgeon
you to death with the same conversation. But the same
team over and over again. I'm not going to give
you twenty hours of whether or not the Textan should
retain Nick Kayley or not. I'm not going to give
you twenty hours of why the Astros made a hitting
coach change. I'm not going to give you twenty hours
(01:36:09):
of why the Rockets are awesome and should y'all should watch.
We're just gonna mix things up. And maybe that just
isn't everybody's cup of tea. But I'm here, I've been
here a long time. I don't plan on going anywhere.
People seem to like me. But the most part, except
in my last two callers, you know it is what
it is. Not everybody shows for everybody. But I thought,
(01:36:30):
if you listen to the show and you think I'm
stealing stuff, I apologize. But I can tell you, honestly,
in the entire history of this show, in my career,
I've only stolen one thing. Uh Factor fiction was a
game they played in Salt Lake City when I lived
in Salt Lake. We call it believe it or not.
That's the only thing I've legitimately stolen from somebody. Everything
else is just what organic we do. I say that way.
(01:36:56):
Ross you want anything.
Speaker 3 (01:36:59):
I think you do a great job, Matty play hosting
this show, running this show. I don't I don't remember
the ninety five percent of the bits and segments. You're
doing great, Matt. I'm proud of you.
Speaker 2 (01:37:10):
I can.
Speaker 11 (01:37:11):
I's say beyond the show, this is this is crazy
to hear about, like in this industry, this is ruthless.
Speaker 2 (01:37:16):
Yeah, well it is. It's a ruthless business. Before the
peel a curtain back when someone gets let go, and
we do miss Sewan terribly. Sean was a great friend
and a great broadcaster, and I hope that whatever he
does in his life, he's a smart guy. He got
his MBA, he works his ass off, and you know,
he had a dark moment in his career and he
was able to overcome it and thrive. And he's doing
(01:37:37):
just fine. He's got his web show, and he's doing
some other things, and he's got his quarterback evaluations. I'm
not worried about Sean. Sean's a talented person and a
good person. But it's funny when somebody leaves not because
they want to leave, it's because our bosses or other
bosses beyond us tell us. It becomes an assassination attempt
on those that get to keep their job. And you know,
I've never I've never quite understood that. But that's human
(01:38:00):
nature and ross. It's been happening in our industry for
a long period of time. If if one of our stations,
our competitors around town, loses a host, it's oh my god,
I'm so sorry it happened. And why the other guy
on that station still on the air. He's trash, not
our first rodeo. That's this is the this is how
it goes. It's how it goes. And in the biggest
(01:38:22):
conundrum I'm facing right now is the jelly that Craig
brought me. I cannot open up the jar that's in
the jelly in it.
Speaker 3 (01:38:28):
So oh oh man, y'all are at a fancy place.
You got little jars of jelly rather than packets.
Speaker 2 (01:38:34):
It's a jar. It's a jar, and compote, it's a gem.
It's a jam. It's actually a jam, Dickinson's conquered crepe jam.
And I'm sure it's delicious if I can somehow open
it up. I'm fighting Matt. Maybe I think think about
Brad here for two minutes, and I'm give the thing
open two five.
Speaker 3 (01:38:57):
Can you call room service to open up your little
jars and jam? That'd be the fanciest thing you could
possibly do. What if I called Craig to open up
your jar?
Speaker 5 (01:39:11):
Hi?
Speaker 2 (01:39:11):
Hi, this is a front desk. Yes, can you send
somebody up here to open up my jar of jam?
He brought me cream cheese spread to you? You don't
put cream cheese on toast? Do you?
Speaker 3 (01:39:20):
M Well, you got a marmalade? Is it a marmalade
or a jam or a jel?
Speaker 2 (01:39:24):
It's a jam. It's a jam. By the way, Do
I like cream cheese?
Speaker 5 (01:39:26):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (01:39:27):
Or no? I should know this. I'm gonna say yes.
Speaker 6 (01:39:32):
No.
Speaker 2 (01:39:33):
Generally speaking, I don't, Oh my god. But there is
like a dip that you can There's like a cream
cheese dip you can have. It's pretty good. And then
I also I like when you put jellies on top
of a cream cheese. You've seen that before. I like cheesecake.
I'm not consistent.
Speaker 5 (01:39:48):
I know.
Speaker 3 (01:39:50):
You you were you were an enigma. You were a
riddle wrapped up in enigma.
Speaker 2 (01:39:54):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 3 (01:39:55):
I can't remember the right And it's a mystery wrapped
in enigma, wrapped in a riddle.
Speaker 2 (01:40:00):
Or whatever two minutes from now if you missed a
conversation with Ima Adoka earlier where we play that for
you at one thirty today, A couple of my friends
are texting me saying that they think that the caller
that was calling about Josh Rosen was confusing me with
Josh Ennis. That apparently Josh uses still a bunch of
bits from people. Maybe that's the case. I don't know.
(01:40:22):
He was clearly confused about many things. Do you think
there's any other radio show in the country today? And
there's how many sports radio stations are there? I been
here left? Yeah, really, how many took a Josh Rosen call.
There is nobody in the country now Josh Rosen call
except us today. Literally nobody else. That's ESPN, that's Fox,
that's the local station in Denver, that's Cincinnati, Miami, Detroit, Seattle.
(01:40:46):
Nobody in the country took a Josh Rosen call except
our show. That's why we've been able to survive all
these years. By the way, he was in calls when
other people don't.
Speaker 3 (01:40:56):
He was an economics major at UCLA, by the way,
and getting an NBA from so yeah, he's he's doing fine. Financially.
I'm sure he's not a barista, Matt.
Speaker 2 (01:41:04):
If I was, if I didn't have ninety percent of
believe it not already done, I would have done all things.
Josh Rosen, believe it or not.
Speaker 3 (01:41:11):
Oh Man, one of the biggest draft busts in NFL history,
says his a wiki page. Do you try to edit
that out of your own wiki page?
Speaker 2 (01:41:21):
Do you think he wrote it himself?
Speaker 3 (01:41:22):
I don't think he wrote that. He's one of the
biggest busts in NFL history.
Speaker 2 (01:41:26):
I you know, honestly, I remember talking about this with you.
I liked him.
Speaker 3 (01:41:29):
I liked him a lot of First of I'm always
a fense true. I think it was Thomas Sports Enterprise
his first pick, Josh Rosen, that's not true.
Speaker 2 (01:41:36):
You knew who in the first pick was? Nope, Yeah,
it was Ryan Leif not Thomas Sports Enterprise. I liked
Ryan Lee, but he wasn't a Time of Sports Enterprise.
I don't know about that. It was Dak Prescott of
the Dallas Combet that's true, first ever client. And then
it was John Ross. Now he's a barist in Poughkeepsie
(01:41:57):
for sure. Okay, come on actually driving because he's running
really fast between the cars. That's true. I need a
ruling from you on this. Okay, good idea, good idea,
not going to work. Bad idea? Why do you even
try it? Those are your three options? Okay. Pete Damil,
(01:42:20):
who is the senior football writer for ESPN, has a source.
It says Rice is set to announce a one twenty
million dollars wholesale stadium renovation that's part of a project
to further connect campus with the nearby Rice Village entertainment district.
The Rice Stadium overhaul will include adding suites, a premium
club area, and a new press level. And it looks
(01:42:41):
like they're going to reduce the deck Rice Stadium in half.
If the matter of fact, I will retweet the photo
of it from Fambell's story.
Speaker 3 (01:42:50):
Yeah, I saw something about this. Was it Esjay or
maybe the last couple of days.
Speaker 2 (01:42:56):
I didn't.
Speaker 3 (01:42:57):
I thought I saw as a project to connect the
Rice Village and this and basically the campus area. I
didn't know they were gonna do all this to the stadium. Yeah,
I just retweeted it.
Speaker 2 (01:43:12):
I gotta be really honest with you, ROSSI uh, I
have been involved with Rice Athletics when I was not
doing u of h stuff before I left town. And
the administration that I worked for is not there, none
of nobody, None of those people are there. All the
coaches are gone, obviously, the players are gone. All the
(01:43:32):
coaches and the administration's gone. And I like them, and
they really tried hard. I mean fixing up Rice Stadium
in itself is a good idea because it's just an
eyesore and it's not useful and it's old, and you
can't I mean, they'll get better value ROSSI putting concerts
at Rice Stadium than they will putting in football facilities,
(01:43:54):
you know what I mean. I mean, there's there's gonna
be a value to having an outdoor venue at Rice
Stadium for you know, a mid level show that wants
to put twenty thousand people on stands. But this is
not going to help Rice's athletic department. It's just not
that that that chip has passed. When Central Campus doesn't
(01:44:14):
really care about athletics, you never are going to win
never ever ever are you going to win?
Speaker 5 (01:44:21):
Now?
Speaker 2 (01:44:21):
Can Rice go seven to five and be happy about that?
Can Rice go to a bowl game once in a while?
Should it be good? Can Rice be relevant in the
Olympic sports like a tennis track and field, maybe baseball
can get back to where it was a handful of
years ago when Wayne Graham was coaching things. But ross
the basketball team has not gone to the NCAA tournament.
(01:44:43):
I want to say since nineteen seventy one or seventy.
Speaker 3 (01:44:46):
Two Rice House Basketball, the tournament Rice House Basketball.
Speaker 2 (01:44:50):
I thought they'd never been. Okay, yeah, they I mean,
there is a banner that I would look at when
I was calling games for them in the late name
nineties that I'm like, oh my god, it's been twenty
six years since they've been in the tournament.
Speaker 3 (01:45:07):
They have a Pear nineteen seventy first round loss ninety
to New Mexico State nineteen seven.
Speaker 2 (01:45:16):
You've gone fifty five years without one turn nc double.
I mean, granted it was thirty six teams and forty
eight and sixty four, and now it's sixty eight and
maybe you'll get to eighty six or one hundred and twenty,
whatever the hell they're gonna do. But you tell me
you can't go to one NCAA tournament in fifty six,
(01:45:37):
fifty five years. How about this?
Speaker 3 (01:45:39):
They haven't even been to the nit since two thousand
and five.
Speaker 2 (01:45:49):
And if Rice can barely operate a football department, how
the hell a they gonna get anybody to spend money
at nil? If you're a Rice alum, you're going to
pay to make sure the James Baker School is looking
at its very best.
Speaker 3 (01:46:02):
Let's go Indy clue, you know what I mean. Yeah,
the Pete Tamil went on to talk about the investment
and the pavilion and reducing the capacity from forty seven
thousand to thirty thousand, and increasing premium ticketing opportunities. And
this is the key, I guess is what they're envisioning
(01:46:23):
falls a nationwide trend to focus on premium, which has
been done at places like vander Built in Northwestern of course,
two very highly touted academic institutions in their own right,
So they're trying to be like Vandy in Northwestern. Vandy's
on the uptick and football absolutely Northwestern hasn't been relevant.
Speaker 2 (01:46:44):
In fifteen years.
Speaker 3 (01:46:47):
No, they made a big ten championship game a few
years ago with with they had what's his name, Pat
Fitzgerald something Fitzgerald and then there he got disgraced with
the the whole there was a what was it? The hazing.
There was a hazing scandal over there. I'm I'm trying
(01:47:07):
to pull up a Northwestern Wildcats football.
Speaker 2 (01:47:11):
You know what, you just close your computer. I can't
have this. I just can't. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:47:17):
Yeah, Pat Fitzgerald, what's he doing now?
Speaker 2 (01:47:21):
Well?
Speaker 3 (01:47:22):
He I think he just won a lawsuit against the
Northwestern for like, uh wrong determination.
Speaker 2 (01:47:29):
Hmm. I didn't realize that. Uh you was a hot
commodity for a while, and then he realized, Hell, I
can only do so much at Northwestern. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:47:36):
They well, I mean he's a Northwestern alum. They gave
him a massive contract they didn't really deserve. You go
seven seven and five in north and Northwestern you're a.
Speaker 2 (01:47:45):
God mm hmmm. Yeah. I again, I I is there
an outdoor venue that can be filled in the middle
of city Houston and Rice Village? Absolutely, that's gonna work.
But drawing football nil transfer portal Rice, no chance, no way,
(01:48:05):
no how yeah, pandemic here.
Speaker 3 (01:48:08):
Northwestern finished tenth in the final AP and coaches poll,
so but still but yeah, I guess I guess that's
what Rice is going for.
Speaker 2 (01:48:17):
I guess, Yeah, Paul and Roger, we'll get toe you
coming back out of the break. We got the rotten
in five to two. Don't go away. The Rotten five
is up next. Plus Paul and Roger, do you are
you ready for rotten five or scrambled? Tell the truck.
Speaker 3 (01:48:30):
I am my mean by it's a hybrid. I'm in
between ready and scrambling.
Speaker 2 (01:48:34):
All right, we'll take it. We can take the call.
We'll take the calls. We'll see how twelve forty four
on Sports Talk seven ninety They've gone there they draw flies.
Speaker 10 (01:48:46):
It's Ross's rotting five.
Speaker 2 (01:48:49):
This don't smell quite right? All right? Since Ross took
last week off, two weeks have gone since we've determined
who are the five worst teams in the NFL. The
question will be to the Houston Texans make the list
of the rotten five we find out right now for
Sports RV.
Speaker 3 (01:49:09):
All right, well, the Houston Texans aren't very good, but
there is a lot of bad football being played right now.
We start off with the Cleveland Browns. They have lost
four of their last five games, the only win coming
against the Miami Dolphins, who will be later on this list.
They are coming off the bye week, but they lost
(01:49:31):
thirty two to thirteen against the New England Patriots the
last time they were in action. This week they've gotten
the toilet Bowl. I mean, this has got to be
one of the worst NFL games of the season. The
Cleveland Browns taking on the Jets, who will also be
later on on this list. Cleveland Browns, they are terrible,
but at least they're favored on the road against New
(01:49:52):
York Jets, so they're only the fifth worst team in
the NFL. You are a factory of sadness alone to
the Miami Dolphins, last in action the last Thursday against
the Ravens where they lost twenty eight to six, they
have been terrible. PFF has them with the thirty fifths
(01:50:12):
first offensive line in football. They've been trading away their
defensive players. They just fired their general manager, Chris gear
and Greer. Excuse me, and it's gotta be a punishment
for Mike McDaniel, apparently the owner saying that it is
going to be him for the remainder of the season,
even with Mike McDaniel calling it exhausting with all the
(01:50:33):
rumors surrounding around his firing, but he is going to
finish the year as the Miami Dolphins head coach. They
are nine and a half point dogs to the Buffalo
Bills at home. The Dolphins are terrible. They are the
fourth worst team in the NFL. All right, moving along,
we are getting to the nitty gritty some horrible football
(01:50:53):
teams with the New Orleans Saints. I mean, Tyler Schuck
not gonna be the answer for the New York Orland Saints.
They are also already went on a fire sell themselves
during the trade deadline. They traded away Rashidjaheed. They are
one in eight on the season. They are a horrible
football team, very bad to watch. They've lost four games
(01:51:16):
in a row. They're on the road against the Panthers
this week, so they're gonna lose again. The New Orleans
Saints the third worst team in the NFL.
Speaker 15 (01:51:25):
Believe it.
Speaker 2 (01:51:26):
Yeah, I got sick the head up though, crawl.
Speaker 3 (01:51:28):
Fish now, all right, thank you, mister Gordy. All right,
Moving along, Number two, the New York Jets. Speaking of
fire sell, I mean, they traded away Sauce Gardner, but
they did get great value for that. Also traded away
quentnin and Williams to the Dallas Cowboys. Got some value
for that as well, So they are stockpiling the first
round picks. Brace Hall's still there though, that doesn't make
(01:51:48):
any sense.
Speaker 2 (01:51:49):
Well whatever.
Speaker 3 (01:51:50):
They are coming off a win in their last game
against the Bengals in a wild one. But the New
York Jets still one win on the year, and they
faced the Brown in what has to be, as I
said earlier, one of the worst football games of the season,
maybe the last five years. They're terrible, the number two
worst team in the NFL, the New York Football Jets.
Speaker 2 (01:52:11):
All right, moving it along, I mean, what.
Speaker 3 (01:52:14):
Can be said about the Tennessee Titans that has not
been said about Afghanistan? What a horrible team. They continue
to be last in yards for play. They are one
in eight on the season. They have a minus one
hundred and twenty seven point differential that is easily the
worst in all of football. Their only win was that
fluke accident against the Cardinals five games ago. They've since
(01:52:38):
lost four straight. They have not even been within one
score except for the last one against the Chargers. The
Titans aren't a bye thankfully, there are only three point
dogs to the bye week. They are terrible. They're the
worst team in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (01:52:52):
I mean, we're keeping a book right now. We ask excellent,
Thank you kem Ward, thank you cam or thank you Ross.
Because again, nobody gives you the five best teams. I mean,
everybody give you the five best. I'm looking for the
five worst. Who does anybody else do a rotten five?
Do we still that bet with anybody? No? Get a
magic organic bit. We've created everything except one thing in
(01:53:17):
the history of this show. One thing apparently A listeners
said that we lead the UH sports radio a number
of people calling from their nursing homes, which is weird maybe,
but it's it's probably accurate. It's not horrible, means the truth.
I'm gonna go love everybody.
Speaker 7 (01:53:34):
We just do.
Speaker 2 (01:53:36):
Paul in Myerland at twelve fifty four on The Matt
Thomas Show with Ross Paul, good afternoon to you a man,
because Hey, what d y'all do?
Speaker 14 (01:53:46):
I'm sorry that tomorrow at eleven thirty.
Speaker 2 (01:53:48):
That's eleven thirty tomorrow. Yes, okay, well I got to
call it and apologize to Ross like him, But.
Speaker 14 (01:53:58):
Whoever was the decision to get rid of Charlie Polulo
for that before? Josh Ennis is an idiot. He should
have kept his buls mouth shut.
Speaker 5 (01:54:10):
Nobody, nobody in the city had time for that.
Speaker 2 (01:54:14):
Yeah, I'll take it.
Speaker 14 (01:54:15):
I'll talk to you.
Speaker 2 (01:54:16):
Tom Oh, thank you very much. Drive by, continue sports, Harvey.
Let's just try to stay in my lane.
Speaker 5 (01:54:26):
Man.
Speaker 3 (01:54:28):
So what what's in the water on this Thursday?
Speaker 2 (01:54:31):
Honestly? Can I can I peel the curtain back for yes.
Josh reached out to me about nine months ago and said, Hey,
I was a complete douche for the way I sent
things about you, and I want to apologize. And I said,
that's fine, thank you very much. Water under the Bridge.
So we're cool. I mean, we're never gonna break bread.
We're not going to be best friends, but you know,
(01:54:52):
I think and it's part of the fun of our
S eleven thirty segment on Fridays, is it. Sometimes people
we do stupid stuff and we just should say I'm
sorry and uh he now granted he was looking for
work and maybe he was trying to low key trying
to get me to get him a job back in
Houston I know, which I couldn't do. But he apologized,
so I accepted it. I mean, I could have said
f you and go away, but I didn't. Episode Water
(01:55:13):
under the Bridge. We're good. That's great. Good for you guys.
That's how I feel about when you insult me on
a daily basis on this show, I say, you know,
it's one another bridge. That's good. I don't hold grudges. Well,
there's actually a couple of you know, I forget what
I said. That's a lie. I do hold grudges, but
Josh is not one of them. Okay, and Josh by
(01:55:35):
the way, for those of you that are, and there
are some Josh and his fans out there, Josh is
doing a radio show in Detroit. It's not sports, but it's.
Speaker 3 (01:55:42):
Uh rock, Hey, rock and Detroit. That's gotta be something.
Speaker 5 (01:55:48):
You know.
Speaker 2 (01:55:49):
One of the top stations in Houston remains classic rock.
I'm not gonna say who it is because it's a
competitor of our company, so you know, we hope they lose.
But bottom line is classic rock will always be a
very popular genre in general.
Speaker 3 (01:56:03):
For those about the rock, we salute you.
Speaker 2 (01:56:06):
Yeah, and now when those people start to die off,
it's gonna be an ishay come on, well, I mean
my guess is you know Benny Goodman was popular back
in the day, and that that held it for a while.
Speaker 3 (01:56:17):
Remember this the best music ever, Best music.
Speaker 2 (01:56:21):
Ever, KBM me way back in the day. That's og
if you're really an old seven ninety and if you're
super old g ROSSI it was a simulcast of ninety
three Q when ninety three Q was a pop station.
Speaker 3 (01:56:33):
Hmm, I don't know that top forty yeah, now I
remember there used to be ninety four to five oldies
with fifty six the best of the fifties, sixties, and seventies.
Speaker 2 (01:56:41):
Yep. Everything changes eventually. But I think AM for the
radio now is spoken with I don't, I can't. I
meant there may be one Tejano music station I think
on the AM now, but that's I can't think of it.
Even the Yeah, I would say ninety percent of the
AM stations in Houston are spoken.
Speaker 3 (01:56:57):
War that's coming back. You tell your neighbors AM Radio's
coming back.
Speaker 2 (01:57:02):
Absolutely, AM for life. If you ain't AM, you ain't
my best friend.
Speaker 3 (01:57:05):
Oh I'm sorry I never left.
Speaker 2 (01:57:07):
Yeah, but we do encourage you to go to ninety
four point five HG two if.
Speaker 7 (01:57:11):
You so choose.
Speaker 2 (01:57:11):
Absolutely, iHeart Radio app We love that too.
Speaker 3 (01:57:14):
Sound crystal clear on the iHeart and Radio app.
Speaker 2 (01:57:17):
Any and you can you know. Look, I'm in San
Antonio I'm gonna listen to the A team. I heart
radio app you are for a while for a nap, Well,
I mean I got a nap here because I got
a you know, I've been up.
Speaker 3 (01:57:28):
I just want to say, you know what I'm going
to say this on here. I appreciate you, Matt. You're
traveling all throughout the hours, very busy. We do a
four hour show now and it's two hours earlier. I
appreciate you being on this program.
Speaker 2 (01:57:40):
No, I you know, look, I I love this show.
I love the Rockets. It's two great loves. Its just
I like the old time slot better. But that's a
different issue for a different time. We're happy to be employed.
Ten to two, Yes, sir, we are very happy to
be employed. All right, one o'clock hour up next, Rockets
didn't win. We'll get to a little bit of that.
Speaker 3 (01:57:58):
We have.
Speaker 2 (01:58:00):
Uh we talked about Rice a little bit today. We've
got uh Texans injury report. When you want to do
the list again of the injuries, well we had it
is we add to more importantly tell you who practiced today.
All Right, I got a hydrate, gotta rest up real
those those vocal cords going seven, one, three, two one
two five seven ninety. We've got Emai a Doka replay
at one thirty believe it or not, as highly googleable
it is about airports. Seven one three two one two
(01:58:23):
five seven ninety is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross
one all three on Sports Talk seven ninety final hour
of the Matt Thomas Show here from San Antonio. We
had Ema Doka with us earlier today and uh we
(01:58:43):
will look forward to if you missed it earlier, we'll
have that conversation coming up in a half an hour
from now, I believe it or not today as well
at one fifty. It's about airports. It's highly googable and
that's all I can tell you. Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven ninety. Texans back on the practice field today. Ross,
do you have the list of who was actually out there?
So says Adam Wexer, our Texans reporter. I don't have
(01:59:05):
the list. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:59:06):
People have been saying who they're gonna who, who they've
spotted out there. Nick Chubb has been spotted.
Speaker 2 (01:59:12):
Hold on, let me pull it. Let me just go
ahead and pull it up.
Speaker 3 (01:59:16):
From Yeah, Will Anderson Nick Chubb spotted okay, J Pierce no,
Damian Pierce, no, Ed Ingram, no, Titus Howard or Jalen peatree.
Speaker 2 (01:59:29):
So not great, bob uh of course, c J. Stroud.
I mean he's already been ruled out right, and Kime
he's out, and that guy Matthew is gonna kick this week?
Speaker 7 (01:59:48):
What?
Speaker 3 (01:59:49):
Yeah, I don't know, You're just just funny, I guess
do people don't remember to go by? Christopher Well, Christopher Reeve,
Christopher Columbus.
Speaker 2 (01:59:59):
Christopher Us, the the R and b rap Star, Christopher.
Speaker 3 (02:00:03):
Cross Oh, Christopher Christopher? Was it Chris Walker or Christopher Walking?
Speaker 2 (02:00:07):
Christopher wasn't winning The Pooh's Best Friend? Christopher? Sure? Why not?
I thought it was ere No the dude, the adult,
the kid was winning the Poo's Best Christopher Robin Christopher Robin, Yeah, exactly,
(02:00:30):
all right, Rockets win last night. Look, I'm punched drunk
because I'm on slip deprivation. I count on you to
hold this show together. I know.
Speaker 3 (02:00:41):
You're supposed to be the responsible one.
Speaker 5 (02:00:43):
Not me.
Speaker 2 (02:00:44):
Now tomorrow I'll be wide away because I'm going on
NBA TV tomorrow morning at eight thirty. Oh wow, look
at you Yeah, that's great. Oh, I know, I was
gonna mention real quick, pore go with the phones, so
Iron Eagles could be on the show with us tomorrow.
We're very excited. He's one of the great broadcasters of all.
He does not only does the Final Four, which he
did obviously the Cougar's losing. He's done NFL for decades,
(02:01:07):
He's done NBA for decades, College basketball, Nuber one announcer.
Now super is also the never known a Super Bowl.
He may have done an international fee, but never the
game itself. He's on the Amazon Prime broadcast of the
Rockets versus Spurs, and he is also going to do
the Texans game with JJ Watt on Sunday between the
(02:01:29):
Jags and Tech Texans. So I think it was a
good time to get him on for both occasions. So
I've been thinking about this Amazon thing, and we were
talking earlier, very early show today about how you and I,
first of all, we love the Rockets. We love basketball,
but we love when the Rockets are really good. By
the way, their defensive ratings up to six down the
Association number one and offensive rating number two, I mean,
(02:01:50):
that's excellent.
Speaker 3 (02:01:52):
Did you see that four teams are in the top
ten in both and they're all in the West. Buds Kill, Rockets, Nuggets,
thunder Spurs.
Speaker 2 (02:02:02):
So tomorrow night the game is on Amazon. It's an
Amazon exclusive. Yes, so Craig doesn't work, Vanessa's not working
the game. Ryan's gonna do radio with me tomorrow night.
Speaker 3 (02:02:14):
They said they were doing pre and posts, so I
don't know whatether the how involved. Those guys are all
just Vanessa's I think. Okay, Craig is free and clear,
all right. But Ryan's gonna do the game with me
on radio Tomorrow's about that.
Speaker 2 (02:02:25):
Yeah, he just wants to. He's bored, so he's like,
I kind of sit with you to make a porch
you can so it'll be fun. I really we're gonna
hear it from people saying I want to watch my Rockets.
I want to watch them play a good team. Oh great,
it's on Amazon. I gotta spend this. I'm not gonna
do it, so I'm not gonna watch, which means obviously
you can listen to the radio broadcast, which we would
(02:02:46):
obviously encourage. But you know, when the Amazon in the NFL,
if your team is on an Amazon game, you get
it put on the air for free over the over
the air station. All the local stations could bid for it.
Remember when My and I Football was an ESPN, the
internight Channel eleven had the broadcast in Houston and the
Texans Seattle game each locals. Each market can bid out
(02:03:08):
the game. I wish the NBA would do that because
I really think you're missing a golden opportunity for the
Rocket Spurs. I mean a hopefully it will be a
long standing rivalry, two teams off to a very good
start ROSSI plenty of stars on both sides, and unless
(02:03:30):
you have the Amazon Prime package, you're not gonna watch
the game. And look, I'm not foolish to believe that
people are saying, oh, I'd rather choose radio over television.
I get that, I understand that. But if you put
the game even on the Spacity network the Amazon feed,
I just think you're missing an opportunity to get the
(02:03:51):
two cities that really would care about your teams more
than anybody else, a missed opportunity because you're making them
go to a pay service to go watch the game.
Speaker 3 (02:04:02):
But that's what Amazon Prime wants. They want people to
I don't know how many subscribers are going to gain
because games are on the NBA or how many in
San Antonio or are you starting going to sign up?
But that that's the whole point. So I mean they
it's a trade off.
Speaker 2 (02:04:17):
I understand. I mean, I really logically understand why they're
doing it. But it's funny. Wouldn't you want to have
Amazon pick the crappy games, like have Amazon with the
Rockets Memphis on you know what I mean? It'd be
brutally honest. You're getting a chance here for people to
really tune into a really good situation Rockets and Spurs
maybe Western Conference rivals for the next half decade or so.
(02:04:40):
And unless you're on the service, you're not getting it.
And that's gonna happen with Peacock Letter this year. No
espmost everybody has nbcmos. Everybody has. But I don't know.
It's just I'm really torn because I miss I think
we're missing out on a segment of the population tomorrow
that on a Friday night, on a random night, may say,
you know what, I will check out the Rockets. I'll
(02:05:00):
put on my Space City channel and see what I got.
Oh I got to pay for it. I'm good. And
the NBA doesn't care because I took the check. But
I just think they're missing now.
Speaker 3 (02:05:09):
Yeah, but I mean that's That's something we've talked about
now for the last several years, is how much are
you stunting the continued growth of your your fan bases
and the interest in your league by high Now I
want to say hiding, but it's not not having the
games is widely available, like the Roku.
Speaker 2 (02:05:27):
We've talked about Roku with the baseball.
Speaker 3 (02:05:29):
We've talked about putting playoff games exclusively on Peacock with
the NFL and stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (02:05:37):
Yeah. Yeah, I just it's just me just pitching, That's all.
That's I just it would be nice if you could say, okay, uh,
now there are a certain number of games that will
be on Peacock and on Space City. There'll be a
certain games it will be on Prime and on Space City.
They can only do certain you can only give, you
can only take away fifteen games of your local team.
(02:05:59):
I have yet. I have a Prime and I have Peacock,
So I'm all good. Yeah, but how many people have both?
Speaker 3 (02:06:06):
I would say a lot. Well, Prime more than Peacock.
Speaker 2 (02:06:10):
Right now, see Amazon Prime. I get do I get
it for free because I'm my we are Amazon munit
call it free. Sure, yes, you know what I'm saying
that we pay him membership. Mm hmm, I don't know,
all right, just something I just randomly think about because
think tomorrow night's game is ana fun. And again, if
you don't have Amazon Prime, please listen to me on
the radio. I'll try to the best I can. Ryan
Hounds will be on the broadcast with me. Should be
a good game. Rockets in San Antonio Spurs. Greg is
(02:06:33):
with us at one eleven Greg at Good afternoon to you.
Speaker 5 (02:06:36):
Hey guys, all you how today?
Speaker 2 (02:06:38):
Amazing? Thank you for asking amazing?
Speaker 5 (02:06:41):
You mean well? I talked to you about a month
ago when I was the US Open Chili champion and
over the weekend I went out to kill England and
won the International Championship.
Speaker 6 (02:06:52):
Woo.
Speaker 5 (02:06:53):
I would yeah, one hundred ninety nine indrees. Somehow I
came out of number one. But I still want to
bring you guys some and let you try what real
text as Chili is about.
Speaker 2 (02:07:08):
All right, Ross will give you his address off air,
and you guys can knock it out that way. Twelve
thirty three.
Speaker 7 (02:07:14):
I'll come back.
Speaker 5 (02:07:15):
Yes, you like it. You don't like it spicy.
Speaker 2 (02:07:20):
I love spicy food. My digestive system does not.
Speaker 5 (02:07:24):
Well, it's not too bad, you know, I get dumb.
It downloadle for you. So but in the championships they.
Speaker 7 (02:07:31):
Like it hot.
Speaker 2 (02:07:32):
Now are you gonna give us some with beans and
some without beans? Are you gonna go one hundred percent
beans or zero percent beans? Tell the truth?
Speaker 5 (02:07:40):
Well, ye know, honest. The truth is people like beans
and this I know the texts. I know it's that
religious to say that, but people like beans and their chili. Now,
in competition, we're not allowed to use beans because it's
considered a marker. And you, being a judge, may know,
Oh great, puts beans into chili. So I'm gonna were
(02:08:00):
in better. So we all have to be on an
even keel and everything is turned in as a Texas chilly.
No beans, no apasta, no rice. But I can bring
you some with beans. My wife is very proficient at
beans and won many competitions with that, so didn't even
know she and I could bete together. She actually has
(02:08:20):
a second place, but now my pepper is bigger than hers.
Speaker 2 (02:08:24):
Excuse me, you beat your wife and chili cooking?
Speaker 5 (02:08:29):
I did, I did I did this. This is time,
and my daughter cooks too. She's a she's a junior
champion three times in a row. We've got a pretty
good recipe and it seems to win pretty well.
Speaker 2 (02:08:41):
Are you all like stealing each other's recipes and it's
like changing one ingredient? I mean, that's a pretty contense competition.
You're going there? No, I don't. We don't.
Speaker 5 (02:08:49):
We all could exactly the same thing. Most people don't
realize that chili is a technique and the ingredients are
the same.
Speaker 2 (02:08:57):
It's how you make it all right, more thing before
we go to break here, Greg, Now, Greg, if you
bring us some chili, we will definitely try it. But
remember Ross does not have any kouth. So if he
thinks it's terrible, he's gonna tell you.
Speaker 3 (02:09:08):
I think if he won the International Chili Competition, it's
gonna be pretty good.
Speaker 2 (02:09:11):
Oh no, no, you don't know that for sure. You
could still say, now.
Speaker 3 (02:09:14):
If you entered the flavorless cheese stick competition, then that'd
be something else.
Speaker 5 (02:09:19):
I know. I love to hear the honest, brutal truth.
Speaker 2 (02:09:24):
Bad, it doesn't matter, Ross, I'll give it to you.
Don't worry. I'll be pulling. I'd be way more polite than.
Speaker 5 (02:09:28):
I'm looking forward to it. If I get back to
when of you interns, I can, I can get a
set up to bring you guys some well.
Speaker 2 (02:09:35):
That'd be great. Thank you very much for the phone called, Greg.
It's good to hear your voice. Congratulations all of your
family success with chili. I've had her sports har of
e Chili before. It's delicious. Twelve thirty three West Loop
South You, Greg, twelve thirty three, twelve thirty three Sweet
Sweet seven hundred care of Matt Thomas, three bowls, three
things of spoons and some Atlanta twelve thirty three, West
(02:09:58):
Loop South. Yeah, and lots of toms, Yeah, lots of tums.
All right, Alex mack Roger will hang with you guys next.
Emai Doka bottom of the hour here on Sports Talk
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven
ninety I mentioned very early in the show today that
(02:10:20):
Kevin Durant and John Morant's dad were having a war
words last night in Memphis. I didn't realize that dad
got one in two ross. Did you see this?
Speaker 6 (02:10:30):
No?
Speaker 2 (02:10:31):
Is this true and verified? Matt? Did you listen to these? Uh?
It's you can't. It's it's somebody's filming it from courtside,
and uh, you can't hear it clearly, but you can start.
You can read the words. And then basically, oh, I
want to see what that. Basically, Kevin Durant said, your
(02:10:53):
son don't want to be here. We know what your
last weekend. Enjoy your time is what Kevin Durant said
to John Morant's dad, and then apparently John Morant's dad,
uh said something back, and I lost the first I
lost the tweet. God, I hate my life. I should
favorite more things I can lose. I can find this stuff.
He had a great land back dad to Kevin Durant,
(02:11:16):
I'm googling this. This is not great radio, and I apologize,
but it was a funny line. I don't want to
butcher it. Let's see here, I'll find it. God, I'm
just awful. But basically they were blank talking each other
and it was pretty damn funny. Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
(02:11:37):
two five seven nine zero. Let's go to uh Alex
and Conrade on seven ninety Hello Alex.
Speaker 8 (02:11:46):
You know, Matt, I don't understand why they got rid
of Sean, and they kept you because Sean was making
all that money.
Speaker 12 (02:11:55):
Dude.
Speaker 5 (02:11:56):
You know what I don't get.
Speaker 8 (02:11:57):
I don't get how you can continually be a b
and then not realize it and just continue to play
like a victim role.
Speaker 2 (02:12:05):
It's crazy, man.
Speaker 5 (02:12:07):
And I've got too much empathy because I.
Speaker 8 (02:12:09):
Felt bad for Brad. At times, I'm like, oh, the
guys are being kind of mean to him.
Speaker 2 (02:12:13):
But then he just brings it on himself every single time.
Speaker 8 (02:12:16):
Dude, Jesus have some awareness anyway, Uh, Matt, I loved
back in the day whenever it was you and Lance.
I thought that was so much fun. Right, That was
a really fun show. I wouldn't trade a single morning
of you and Lance for a single day of U
and Ross.
Speaker 2 (02:12:32):
I love it so much more. We had a good time.
It was just the schedule was awful for me. I
just couldn't do it. It was more mean than anything
else I couldn't. I was getting in and thank you
Alex for the nice words. Uh and Ron you produced
us for a short time. Ross. I was getting in
from the airport at two fifteen, two thirty in the morning,
blowing up an air mattress and trying to be full
(02:12:53):
of energy for a six o'clock morning show. It just
wasn't good. That just wasn't It just wasn't me. And
I've never been a morning radio before my life, even
when I wasn't doing the Rockets. It's just not what
I'm comfortable with. It's not you know, you have to
understand what your strengths are and your weaknesses in your life.
And that's if you're gonna go to the morning show life.
And you can be successful in a morning show, but
(02:13:15):
you have to live that life. You have to go
to bed at nine thirty, and really when you say
go to bed at nine thirty, it means eleven because
you're watching sports. You gotta be regimented, you have to
be disciplined. You have to go to bed at a
certain time. You have to get up at a certain time.
You just can't get up at five point thirty race
of the office and be able to be compelling at
six o'clock in the morning. You just can't. You have
(02:13:36):
to live that life. And that's why I have so
much respect for the Rod Ryan's, the Dana Tyson's in
our building, the people that have done morning radio for
decades because their body clocks are accustomed to this. They
know what it takes to be successful. That's why morning
shows typically make more money because it's more of a grind.
And I've never had Ward one or issue with any
(02:13:58):
of those guys doing that or for that matter, because
you have to and Lance has, you know, done it
in mornings for decades. I just I'm just not that way.
I'm not a night ol by any means, but I
call games, and so the midday slot to me has
always been my favorite because it's not that super over
technical midday. It's kind of the you burned through the
(02:14:19):
headlines of the morning you waiting for stuff to happen
that night. It's a little more easy, breezy in terms
of relaxing kind of conversation, and that's kind of my forte.
So yeah, I yeah the morning stuff. And Ross if
you ever, you've done some filling work in the mornings, right,
I mean it's.
Speaker 3 (02:14:36):
Yeah, I've done some fill ins. And I mean I
was producing the morning show for I don't know good
six eight months and then what happened was it Lance
Lance retired from radio briefly.
Speaker 2 (02:14:46):
Did Michael Connor produce us first? Then you came on
or was advice versa.
Speaker 3 (02:14:50):
That I thought I moved with you because they just
like to keep me in your back pocket my whole life.
Speaker 2 (02:14:56):
Well, you're basically you carry the carry the show. That's
very nice. I figured you'd like that. No morning radio,
especially for a sport man, like if you're doing morning
if you're doing a morning show on a rock station
or easy listening, you don't have to stay up a
ten of clockuse what's gonna happen. It's gonna necessarily affect
your show. If you're watching a Rockets game. If you
(02:15:20):
go to bed eight o'clock, is anymore rest, You're not.
That's first of all, it's no fun to cover sports
when you're having a DVR or rush through it as
you're working your way to the office. I'll give you
one example. When I was doing morning sports on ktr H.
We used to do four hours of morning news and
the All Star Game was in Milwaukee. I want to say,
(02:15:42):
this has got to be rossy. What two thousand, what
about two thousand and three, maybe two thousand and two,
somewhere in that range. I don't know exactly what it was.
And so I was doing the sports updates, which for
twice an hour, two minute reports, and I thought, okay,
it's the All Star Game Nationally beats American League team
or American League the nationallyte team. I went to bed
(02:16:02):
in like in the third inning, I like, I need
to be at the opposite five o'clock in the morning.
I'm not staying to watch a useless, meaningless All Star game.
That was the year they had the tie. So I
get in my car and I on the ESPN radio
and all they're talking about this time. I had no
idea what the hell happened? And I thought to myself,
this is not what I got in the business for
is to go to bed early for sporting events. I
(02:16:25):
like sports, I enjoy sports, I watch sports. I don't
want to go to bed early. So again, just a
little bit, a little, a little bit of the peeling
back of the curtain to say that, yeah, if you
want to get into sports talk and conversation, probably morning
show radio, isn't it all right? Let's go quickly to
a couple of other folks talking to Mac in Paarland
at one twenty seven. Hello Max, Hello to you.
Speaker 12 (02:16:49):
So, if you're an Amazon Prime customer, Reed deliveries and
all that crap. You're entitled to the Prime video.
Speaker 2 (02:16:57):
Okay, I thought I figured because I we don't pay
for the Prime videos. But I know we paid for
the Prime package, so that makes total sense.
Speaker 5 (02:17:03):
Right.
Speaker 12 (02:17:03):
You may have to download an app. I'm a road guy,
so I downloaded the app and yeah, you know, blah
blah blah, it's the same password. Easy peasy, y'all all
have fun and you're a good radio basketball announcer.
Speaker 2 (02:17:15):
Thank you, well, thank you very much. I appreciate you
saying that. I will say this ross. Have you seen
any Amazon games yet? I have not seen one yet,
but everybody says the presentation is amazing. The football stuff's good.
I mean no, I'm always I've always been an al
Michael's guy, even though he's lost his fastball a little bit.
I like Kirk Kirk Street. The dog is probably too
much of a storyline right now. But other than that,
he's he's great. Has he cloned that dog that died yet?
Speaker 1 (02:17:41):
No?
Speaker 2 (02:17:41):
He just got another one?
Speaker 3 (02:17:42):
Okay, well he's I think he's got like three or four? Yeah,
I think he was and he went next man up?
How does he choose which one goes on the road?
Speaker 1 (02:17:49):
Ah?
Speaker 2 (02:17:50):
Freakent flyer status that they're flying on airline.
Speaker 3 (02:17:52):
They got points. His dogs a lot of points.
Speaker 2 (02:17:54):
Dog's got points. Yeah, okay, Savage is with us at
one twenty nine Savage, Good afternoon.
Speaker 13 (02:18:00):
Hey guys, great show.
Speaker 2 (02:18:02):
Hey, by way, is your name really Savage?
Speaker 13 (02:18:05):
Yeah, that's my last name. It's pretty cool, so I
just go by it.
Speaker 2 (02:18:10):
Does your wife call you savage sometimes?
Speaker 5 (02:18:13):
Yeah?
Speaker 13 (02:18:14):
Any Savage?
Speaker 5 (02:18:14):
You messed up? So you know just the way it is.
Speaker 2 (02:18:18):
I understand.
Speaker 13 (02:18:20):
But hey, I won't talk about the NHL. I mean,
you got all these small markets getting teams. What's up
with the Houston market. It's the fourth largest, right, yeah?
Is there a problem?
Speaker 14 (02:18:34):
I mean, is it ownership?
Speaker 13 (02:18:36):
I mean, what's the deal?
Speaker 2 (02:18:39):
It is not ownership? Well, it's first of all, the
NHL has chosen not to expand there are no expansion teams. Uh,
you had Utah move from Arizona. But that that's not
an expansion team. That was a team movement, that was relocating.
Speaker 13 (02:18:53):
Right, So there's gotta be a bunch there's gotta be
a bunch more money here in Houston to relocate a
smaller team like that. I'm surprised somebody here didn't didn't
snag it or something.
Speaker 2 (02:19:04):
Well, there was a little bit of an effort to it,
but I think you tah came together with a better package. Frankly,
and thank you for the phone call, Savage. Appreciate you listening. Uh,
I don't think this the Tota Center's ready for NHL hockey.
You would have to take some massive improvements. Now, there
could be another group of people in town that would
be thinking about bringing NHL at Houston, which would then
mean either that group would be a tenant to Tillman
(02:19:26):
at the Tota Center or they would want to maybe
try to build their own arena. And there's a number
one The number one thing is can you sell eighteen
thousand tickets a night for it? And can there be
enough corporate support to a fund of hockey team member.
We're not, we're not. We have a lot of fortune
five hundred companies here in Houston, but we don't. We don't.
(02:19:47):
There's not endless money to spend on these huge corporate deals.
And the reality is, if you don't have twenty or
thirty big corporate deals, multimillion dollar deals, your TV contract
from the NHL is pennies on the dollar. You can
fill up eighteen thousand seats in an arena every night.
That'd be cool, but that doesn't you know. It's we
we've learned this Ross from the SEC on ESPN and
the NBA. It's about television deals and corporate sponsorships way
(02:20:10):
more than it is filling up a building.
Speaker 3 (02:20:12):
Uh yes, and you could tell by well, especially here
in Houston, building is not always full.
Speaker 2 (02:20:17):
No matter, what does this sport is Yep, all right,
let's get to what you may doka conversation that is
up next one thirty two on Sports Talk seven ninety
seven to one three two one two five seven hot
you believe it or not as highly googlable it is
about airports. We'll have it for you coming up in
a half an hour from now. We may dog it
with us earlier today on the show. If you missed
(02:20:38):
the conversation, here comes if you met a visit right now.
Ross and I discussing all things about the Rockets five
team winning streak. And uh here is the coach talking
about the different heroes and one ninety had Josha Koge
on his bingo card hitting three three pointers during a
huge part of the third quarter last night's victory.
Speaker 6 (02:20:56):
The attention that our brand and Kevin atract somebody's gonna
get open looks, and he was the recipient and obviously
he was confident knocked him down.
Speaker 2 (02:21:06):
It's really good to have it. We were talking about
in the first hour doubling Houston Rocket players. Right now,
it's a pretty risky situation for opponents, would you agree.
Speaker 6 (02:21:14):
Yeah, we're getting to our spacing, guys are our outlets
are there, and guys are going to be unselfish for
the most part and make the right read and it's
up to those guys who shoot the ball with confidence.
And our numbers are showing that guys are put in
his work. And like I said, when you got guys
that attract all that attention, I'm in as well. Getting downhill,
somebody's going to be left open and they're taking that
(02:21:36):
gamble and we're making a pay.
Speaker 2 (02:21:37):
Right now, you are well north of forty percent from three,
number one in the association at least last night in
the numbers. Look, that's just hard work. Is that also
good looks? Not having a hand in the face the
extra pass? What do you attribute? And hopefully it lasts
for a long time, but the rapid increase in the
amount of success from three point range so far this year. Yeah,
(02:21:58):
all the above.
Speaker 6 (02:22:00):
I said, when you have guys that you know they're
going to score, if you don't put two three bodies
on them, they're gonna leave guys open and try to
make We do the same thing. We double guys and
we'll live with certain shots. But our guys have a
ton of work this offseason understanding who they're playing with,
and so for us, it's just keep it simple, make
the make the easy pass, and we'll get those wide
(02:22:20):
open loops. And once you continue to knock those down,
they have to guard one on one and then our
stars can get loose.
Speaker 3 (02:22:26):
And what about the offense? Obviously has been one of
the best in the league, but I think it can
get even better, especially with respects to the turnovers that
were better last night. How do you go about approving
improving that with a roster that doesn't have a ton
of great ball handling, has some good ball handling, but
some guys who can be a little bit prone to
(02:22:46):
turn the ball over.
Speaker 6 (02:22:47):
Yes, like we said, keep it simple, don't over penetrate.
Excuse me, don't overpenetrate, Just make the simple pass. You know,
we saw what the effect it had on us opening night. Wait,
too many turnovers against Okay, we've tried to prove on
since then. You know, the last game against Dallas wasn't
our best seventeen for seventeen points, but ten in the
(02:23:09):
first half yesterday only three in the second half. So
we made a point emphasis and guys really took care
of the ball, made a simple play and let the
other guys be be recipients.
Speaker 2 (02:23:17):
Like I said, I was, let's get into a Kochie
a little bit. I love him so far in terms
of just doing a little bit of everything. What did
he get on your radar and what did you think
about him coming into where he was last year and
what he's been able to produce for you right now.
Speaker 7 (02:23:30):
Well, we knew he can fit into what we do
really well.
Speaker 6 (02:23:33):
You know, another tough, hard nose, versatile defender that's gonna offensive, rebound, slash,
crash and do the things that we do. You know,
obviously the three point shot had been a little up
and down in this career so far. But like I said,
when you're getting these open looks and our guys are
putting in the work and we were letting them know
take these shots, they're the right shot, don't pass them up,
(02:23:54):
and then we obviously are really good at offensive rebounding, So.
Speaker 2 (02:23:58):
For us it was great.
Speaker 6 (02:23:59):
It was a late pick up in our last signing
and free agency. With the injuries the Doorian and Jay
Shawn coming into season, we knew we needed another defender,
another body until guys were healthy. And obviously he's been
a pleasant surprise. But the work he's put in and
you know, to be a late signing, and in addition
that was kind of there for depth. We love his versatility,
(02:24:21):
brings another defender so our men can take a little
bit of a break at times, and he's, like I said,
he's making guys pay when they double off.
Speaker 5 (02:24:27):
Of an out.
Speaker 2 (02:24:28):
And Kevin.
Speaker 3 (02:24:30):
ROCKETEC coach Imanidoka was here on Sports Talk seven ninety.
We know Kevin Durant and Alprin, Shangunam and Thompson getting
a lot of the headlines, but I feel like Jabari
Smith Jr. Has been and can continue to be a
real X factor for you guys with what he does
defensively shooting thirty nine percent from three as well. Just
your thoughts overall on how much he can impact and
(02:24:52):
raise the level of you guys game on both ends
of the floor.
Speaker 6 (02:24:56):
Yeah, I mean we've talked about it since I've been here.
We need our young guys to these to take these
jumps and him a man, our friend, they've all they've
all done that Tari as well. Read we need reading
all our guys to continue to grow. And so you know,
we said it with with Fred and Dylan and the
events that we brought in from day one and now Kevin.
You know they're gonna do what they do and add
(02:25:17):
to the team, but we want our biggest growth will
be from our young guys taking these jumps. And so
Jabari has obviously done that with this body, confidence, aggressiveness.
Speaker 5 (02:25:25):
He saw that.
Speaker 6 (02:25:26):
You know, I saw a month after the after the
season last year he had boked up already, he got strong,
put in the work, and you know, once again, if
you have these really good players, you're gonna have lesser
defenders on your times and you got to win those matchups.
And then his versatility on defense allows us to do
so much. You know, he's guarding anybody from two twos,
the fives on given nights and switching on the ones,
(02:25:49):
and so the length and size that.
Speaker 7 (02:25:51):
We have and he's a huge part of what we do.
Speaker 3 (02:25:53):
Speaking of wanting to see some improvement from some young guys,
read Shepherd. How do you assess his season so far
early on both good and bad.
Speaker 6 (02:26:02):
Yeah, he continues to be to be confident and aggressive,
and that's the main thing with him. We've said that
from day one is know what you're out there for.
You're going to play off these guys, and you're one
of the best shooters in the league, So don't pass
some shots. Take those shots, and be aggressive on the
defensive ends. Continue to put him in situations where he's
gonna have to grow and improve. And so we're not
scheming up anything to hide him or anything like that.
(02:26:24):
These Guarden guys, we're switching on the John Rant one night,
we're switching on the Cooper flag one night, and he
needs this in game experience to improve on that area.
And so our thing is, you know, he has really
good hands, and sometimes he lets guys go to to
get those reaches and gambles who wanted to move feet
a little bit and take on those challenges. And so
you know, a few games into the season so far,
(02:26:44):
he's improved and we're going to need the shooting, his
ball handling, you know, his secondary point guard for us
out there, and with the amount of you know, he
played forty seven games last year, so he's still getting it,
getting the experience under his belt and the game is
well and experience for him for.
Speaker 2 (02:27:02):
What you're running. You mayn we got san Antonio tomorrow night.
Have you as a coach philosophically changed your ideology about
guarding Wemby today than maybe you did when he was
a rookie a couple of years back.
Speaker 6 (02:27:17):
No, no, really, we've done what we were going to do,
what we've done before, and then at times, you know,
we had a really good defender for those type of
guys dealing Brooks was you know, we put him on
him and Cat and you know, all the all the
stretch forwards and fives that take advantage of bigger guys,
and so we have a lot of a lot of smaller,
tough defenders that we can throw at him and then
(02:27:37):
have some length and size behind it. And so you know,
he's shot the three, not as consistent as he is now,
but he's doing some of the same things at the
higher level now. So we still want to be aggressive,
and he says, go with them. The guys on the
neck and climbing to him, take away his airspace and
force them to help. And so we've had success doing
that so far.
Speaker 2 (02:27:58):
Is it overly simplicit essay? Try to get him outside
of that comfort zone, get him beyond fifteen seventeen feet
or is that just other other audeologies behind that.
Speaker 6 (02:28:09):
No, I mean he brings them all off, be shooting
some D three, So you can't just guard him in
those areas, although we do want to be physical in
those spots. You know, he's all over the court doing
so many different things, handling, setting screens, rolling to the basket, popping.
So he's obviously a very complete player. So if to
have somebody that can match up to him in all
different areas on the court, and like I said, send
(02:28:31):
him a certain help and then obviously got to keep
him off the glass with his size.
Speaker 2 (02:28:35):
All right, that again he made doker earlier today Rockets
and Spurs Tomorrow night six point thirty. We'll have the
broadcast for you right here on Sports Talk seven ninety
