Speaker 1 (00:01):
Is The Matt Thomas Show with Ross.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Said, Oh one anh town? What's happening? Mid morning brunchers, Hello,
and welcome into a Tuesday edition of you Know what
I'm not? You see this, gentleman, you see What's happening?
A Tuesday edition of The Matt Thomas Show with Ross
without Matt Thomas for the moment, but with Matt Thomas
on the phone. Hey Matthew, how are you?

Speaker 3 (00:33):
Layson and Begs in theveg?

Speaker 4 (00:34):
Oh you know what?

Speaker 5 (00:35):
Did I have the Uh?

Speaker 4 (00:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Are we on the wrong mode here on my thing?
That's how things happen over here. Okay, Hello, Matthew, how
are you?

Speaker 6 (00:46):
I want to wish everybody a very happy Tuesday.

Speaker 5 (00:49):
I hope every's in a good mood.

Speaker 6 (00:50):
Got a great four hour show coming up today.

Speaker 7 (00:53):
This is great and.

Speaker 6 (00:55):
Uh, thanks going great so far. I like to be
at the office. You usually a half hour before the
show begins, if not a little sooner. Sometimes it doesn't
work that way, and today would be one of those days.
But I'm feeling great. My blood pressure is relatively low. Yeah,
things going well, but I miss you already. I'll be
there shortly, I think, where are you? I'm about to

(01:17):
get onto six ten, and we know that's fifty nine sucks.
Sixten sucks. Yes, every freeway and this sound sucks. Traffic sucks.
And I'm officially I'm going to tell my wife and
my children today this is my last in king.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
When I am moving in to.

Speaker 5 (01:32):
The gallery area, it'll be first with you, and.

Speaker 6 (01:35):
Then I'll I'll be looking for somebody else, eventually for
our roommate.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Yeah, there's a couple of nice high rises around here,
and yeah, I got to pull I got to pull
out couch for you.

Speaker 5 (01:42):
It's ready to go, fresh sheets and everything.

Speaker 6 (01:44):
But that thing's got that thing's got stained and like bacteria.

Speaker 5 (01:47):
And stuff on it.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
I want to said, free fresh sheets. Every hotel mattress
you sit on, somebody's done something on it and they
just put fresh sheets on it, and you don't say
a word.

Speaker 6 (01:57):
All right, let me tell you, I'm going to do
this and we're gonna get this out of the way
and we're not going to discuss it again the rest
of the show. So I wake up at seven fifteen
every morning and I hit the maps app on my
phone to see how long it's going to take to
get to work, kind of judges how fast our slow
I can go, and today was not a good day.
It was showing an hour nineteen hour and twenty, which
is just horrendous. Now it typically gets lower as we

(02:18):
get later in the morning, but it was really not.

Speaker 5 (02:20):
Getting any lower. So I left the house today at
eight twenty.

Speaker 6 (02:24):
I have four different routes I can take to get
to work from my house, which is primarily fifty nine,
and then you can do six ten, you can do
forty five, you can do side streets. You can also
do the h ob lane, which I did today, thinking
all right, I'll pay the two fifty and that's fine,
I can work with that. Well, i get in the

(02:45):
hob lane and I'm humming along beautifully. I'm putting middle
fingers up to everybody on the side of the road.
They're just caught in this terrible traffic. And I'm laughing
my ass off like I normally would.

Speaker 5 (02:54):
Because I'm petty like that.

Speaker 6 (02:56):
And then I get to a standstill at I ten,
which is still about two miles away from the downtown
exit off of the HOV and I look at my
and I want to go look at my phone. There
was only one problem sports RV. My phone fell on
the right side of the passenger side by the door,
so I couldn't get to my phone.

Speaker 8 (03:13):
Huh, So I had no idea what was that? What
was ahead of me?

Speaker 5 (03:16):
Okay?

Speaker 6 (03:16):
So at a stop in the middle of the HOB
lane while a woman was putting her makeup on in
front of me, I happened to pick up my phone
and it said forty minutes just to get off the
HOV lane off of fifty nine.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
And was there like.

Speaker 5 (03:32):
A bus wreck on the on the HOV what happened?

Speaker 6 (03:35):
No, there is simply traffic at the exit. So there
is construction, I mean major construction. And there was a
cop who looked like a fat Greg Cook was on
his cell phone eighty percent of the time. And I'm
sure he's a very good person. We appreciated service.

Speaker 5 (03:51):
Like you're appreciating his service.

Speaker 8 (03:54):
Well, I mean he was.

Speaker 6 (03:55):
He was waving with one hand and obviously talking to
somebody on his other phone.

Speaker 5 (03:59):
We just with the other hand.

Speaker 6 (04:02):
I didn't say that you said that. That was sports
Harvey that said not me, And so, needless to say,
then I got a memorial, and memorials are okay, but
then six ten sucks that it usually does, and I'm
now crawling along the feeder road. I can see our building,
so we're down the home stretch. But I want you
to know that when I get to the office today,

(04:24):
I will not be cranky. I will not be upset life.

Speaker 5 (04:28):
Okay, okay, sorry, go ahead, I will.

Speaker 6 (04:34):
I will be fine because I've been in this car
for an hour and looks now I'm an officially one
hour and forty minutes because I left the house at
eight twenty.

Speaker 5 (04:42):
Five, so that's our forty.

Speaker 6 (04:45):
And I've been listening to some good sports radio, some
horrific but I won't really tell you which is which,
and we'll be ready to give you the best I
can possibly give you for three hours and fifty something
minutes when I eventually arrived at our offices in the gallery.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Okay, thank you, tea pot Thomas. We'll see you in
a couple of minutes. Bye, Matt. We gotta get you
on the app Waze. You canna get you on way well. Also,
he said he dropped his phone, so I'll see where
he should have turned or turned off or anything.

Speaker 5 (05:17):
And it makes you feel any better, Matt.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
I'm watching KPRC Local two and there's a massive wreck
on six ten forty five northbound. So there's just a
mess all over Houston, all right. So Matt Thomas is
called in the show from the middle of traffic, Pray
for me and Jonathan. Matt has said this on air.
He can be prone to, well you just called teapot,
and then after he lets a little steam often he's okay.

(05:40):
So hopefully Matt's all right as he gets into town.
Here it's the Matt Thomas Show with Ross, but temporarily
without Matt Thomas.

Speaker 5 (05:47):
He'll be joining in it just a second, okay.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Phone lines open seven one three two one two five
seven ninety is the phone number if you want to
get in. Seven to one three two one two five
seven ninety. We got Gut Feelings coming up at eleven thirty.
It'll be a normal Tuesday here on The Matt Thomas
Show with Ross once Matt gets here Gut Feelings at
eleven thirty. At eleven o'clock, I believe are we going
to try to find some kind of feed for the

(06:12):
Notre Dame Athletic Director.

Speaker 5 (06:14):
Yeah, he talked about that, but did you go ahead?

Speaker 2 (06:16):
And I know you worked out last night and you
tracked down a feed, you know, Notre Dame a Fighting
Irish dot net, Notre Dame dot com, Gildedschileley dot org.

Speaker 5 (06:27):
I don't know. We can figure it out. We'll find it.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
So Pete Bavaqua, the athletic director for the Notre Dame
Fighting Irish, is going to make an announcement or they're
doing a press conference. Are they just going to do
more whining about the ACC? I don't know. I mean
this just coming off as a crybaby. Notre Dame's coming
off is holier than now, and Pete Bovaqua sounds like
a cry baby. They're talking about the ACC and whining

(06:51):
about how their social media account that I mean, come on,
is anybody following the ACC on Twitter?

Speaker 9 (06:58):
No?

Speaker 2 (06:59):
And that the ACC network was playing the Miami game
over and over and over, which I find hilarious, And
that the social media account was talking about head to
head via Notre Dame and Miami, which if there's one
team you shouldn't complain about being ahead of you in
the playoff, it should be the team that beats you
head to head and also has a decent enough resume.
Even though Miami's couple of losses aren't great, but hey,

(07:20):
bad losses only matter for Texas.

Speaker 5 (07:22):
But I digress.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
Oh, Notre Dame's got the press conference like timed out
of the ready to go.

Speaker 5 (07:29):
They're doing it like a New Year's Eve.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
There's people waiting for this stream are ready.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
They're doing a New Year's rocking Eve style countdown for
the day for the Notre Dame press conference. Oh they're serious.
Are they about to stand on business? As the kids
would say? Are they leaving the ACC? Are they going
back full independent? Or are they gonna join? People have
speculated they're gonna join the Big twelve. There was some

(07:56):
guy who was unlocked on in our local locked on.
Mister Gordon locked on sec said that guy may not
be one hundred percent reliable. So I don't know if
they're going to join the Big twelve. The Big Ten
would make a lot of sense just geographically and historically.
It feels like a regional there's a lot of rivals
over there, but the Big Ten doesn't. The Big Ten
have eighteen teams. Now at this point, we're supposed to

(08:17):
look at this yesterday. So I don't know what's gonna happen.
This is is this some big domino to fall?

Speaker 5 (08:23):
Is?

Speaker 2 (08:23):
Is Notre Dame gonna take their ball and go home.
How major of announcement this is gonna be at all?
Or is it just gonna be more whining at the
against the ACC.

Speaker 5 (08:31):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
We're gonna find out coming up. I believe that's gonna
use it. What's the countdown? Give us the live countdown
for that kind of down for real? It's eleven on
the dot. Okay, eleven on the dot. We will be
we'll be churning the Notre Dame clock here on the
Mount Thomas Show with Ross. So we got that coming up.
We have NFL stuff to get to. Thanks for nothing,

(08:54):
Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles weren't able to get a victory
over the loss in Angelus Chargers. So now the Chargers
are nine to four, which means the Texans are planted
firmly in the seventh seed in the af seed. And
we are thirteen games in the season of a seventeen
game season. So it's definitely time for standings watch right

(09:16):
now in the AFC, if the Texans could have gotten
a little bit of help from their friends, they would
have been tied and held the tiebreaker over the Chargers.
That would have put them in the sixth seed, which
is huge because if you're one or two, I think
you don't want to go on the road and face
Denver or New England. Jacksonville not scared, Pittsburgh Steelers not scared,

(09:36):
So you don't want to go on the road to
face those two teams. It would have bumped the Texans
at the moment from playing on the road at the
Patriots to on the road at the Jaguars, and it
really would be twofold because if you are the last
seed the NFL Playoffs reseed, which they should I love receding,
and that means you would face the higher seed. You

(09:59):
would be guarante heed to face the team with the
buye the Denver Broncos as the last seed, they would
face the lowest seed. So you would have to go
on the road to beat the Patriots, who are I
think probably the best team in the AFC. Then you
would go on the road to beat to play the
Broncos both times in the cold, both times potentially in
winterry mixes and all that type of stuff. Not the

(10:20):
Texans to be scared, just another factor for a Houston
team that's maybe not used to that.

Speaker 5 (10:25):
And then face the Broncos. So you'd have to go
on the.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
Road to beat the two best teams in the AFC
just to make the AFC Championship Game. So that was
kind of a huge swing for the Texans last night.
That the Philadelphia Eagles and Jalen Hurts threw like seventy
five interceptions last night, and even though Saquon Barkley had
a good night, Jalen Hurts did not zero touchdowns, four picks,

(10:54):
just twenty one to forty. A bad night for Jalen Hurts,
which turned into a bad night for your Houston in Texas. Okay,
Matt Thomas looks like he's not going to yell at anybody,
So I'm feeling pretty good about this. We have to
carry this press conference. I just heard what y'all said. Yeah,
they gotta Yeah, my god, they're trying to drop bombs.
Let's go all right, let's let's completely shake everything up. Okay,

(11:18):
like they're gonna have this press conference five four three two.
We're still very disappointed, secret calling this thing, like what
are they what's going on?

Speaker 10 (11:27):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (11:27):
I mean, is there like a pregame show to this,
and they probably want to happen. Brady Quindo on the things. Well,
he's been out there defended it, I'm telling you. And look,
I think Notre Dame is one of America's finest institutions. Uh,
it's got a rich tradition of athletics success and really
frankly a lot of sports. But are they not being
wanny bitches? And if they want to come to Big twelve,
welcome Pa. You're so terrible. I would take not I

(11:53):
would take steady bitches.

Speaker 5 (11:55):
Notre Dame. Please come to my little big twelve so
you can help me. Powerful Big twelve we got.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
We got Texas Tech and be playing for exactly You've
got Texas Tech dropping fifty MILLI a year on their roster.
Everybody else is leading charge of this. We're not leaving
any charge. I'm saying it's good. You got one good
team dropping a bunch of cash. Hey, we got Houston
a Bowl game, they got TC game. We got to
be outdrawn in your own city. We got what else
we got going on us? The Kansas they didn't want

(12:24):
to play in one. Kansas didn't want to play in one. Yeah,
you gotta Decliners. It's because it's the Decliner Conference. It's
because like five guys are getting fine, you know.

Speaker 5 (12:32):
What, we want to give it opportunity to others.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
No, you're how many teams in the big twelve of
the it's the big detainers. How many are declining?

Speaker 5 (12:41):
How many? How many teams? Five at least?

Speaker 2 (12:43):
Right, it's gonna be separate. Well, some of them are
five win teams, so we can decline it. Okay, Well
it sounds like it's not that good of a conference,
the big decline.

Speaker 5 (12:51):
Why because we beat each other up? Oh? Really everybody?

Speaker 2 (12:54):
Well the walking wounded, Yes, playing Kansas State? Yes, and
I don't forget I was staying. Okay, don't forget Countorada
a couple of years a coach. Yeah, terrible, but I
think you know, look the great decliners. You can we guess?
I mean, do you want to guess what this is about?
I mean, can we You want to try to guess?
Leave in the ACC for something else or for independence?
All right, we'll get more to that. We've got. You

(13:15):
mentioned NFL from last night, Yes, us from nothing, Jalen hurts. Yeah,
how about those multiple turnovers in one play last night?

Speaker 5 (13:24):
Yes, that was weird.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
Uh my brother lost a fantasy game by like two
points and he got minus four on that play. Oh lord,
I'll get a quarterback get minus four on one play.
We're gonna hear from uh Jose. We're gonna hear from
Joe A Spotta from the Baseball Winner meetings. Uh huh,
there's a SoundBite about Jose a twob that you're not

(13:46):
going to like.

Speaker 11 (13:48):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
I'm just gonna say this, and I think you know
what it is already. If his name was brother Jones,
he that brother be traded, okay, Joe spotter Jose Jose
two day seven one three two seven ninety, we have
got feelings. At eleven thirty, we are definitely carrying the
press conference.

Speaker 5 (14:04):
I guarantee you. Here's a new rule to the Matt
Thomas Show. Ross.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
If there is any press conference that starts with a
timer and goes down to zero, we're carrying it. It
could be about a high school recruit in Orlando. It
could be about an upcoming women's volleyball game in Detroit.
If you're doing a press conference when there is a
clock on it, how holy are that? Now?

Speaker 8 (14:27):
Are you?

Speaker 2 (14:27):
That's based only a notre dame. I'm not sure about
why you're so excited for this. You live for drama.
I drove it in drama today. You live for drama
and you're living for this.

Speaker 5 (14:36):
I love it. I know why I live a life.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
Yeah, I was gonna say, all right, ten fifteen, it's
a Matt Tamas Shold Ross.

Speaker 5 (14:42):
This is Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 2 (14:43):
Ninity ten twenty one, Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (14:50):
You know, we have an incredible city.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
We have really generally speaking nice people, except some of
the fake media that cover these sports teams in town.

Speaker 5 (14:59):
But other than that, we have you.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
Yeah, I'm good, amazing food. I love our climate. I mean, look,
you can't be hot enough for me. Frankly, after living
in Minneapolis, I totally.

Speaker 5 (15:12):
Don't love our climate.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
I love our climate. I like what we're getting right now.
We're getting seventies on it this week. That's perfect to me.
Give me seventy five every absolutely. I mean La La weather,
San Diego weather. Yeah, but I don't want. I don't
want the smog and the mud slides. And look, we
have our share of tornadoes and hurricanecanes andros. But the
one thing I don't think we're ever going to get fixed,

(15:36):
even though we continue to try, is we're just never
gonna get traffic. I mean we're always gonna look major
cities have traffic, but I think we do a exemplary
or an extraordinary worst job at it. Like our construction
takes longer than most cities do. I think our are
the the architects that put together these plane bees. They

(15:57):
never seem to make sense. It seems like they built Now.
I don't know this. I'm not a city planner, so
maybe somebody can speak to this. It seems like they
do construction to get us to where we need to be,
like population wise, rather than where we're going. If you're
gonna shut everything down and make construction, don't make it
so we're good now, make it so we're good ten
years from now. It's like, yeah, years from now. Because

(16:19):
when I was a kid, Katie Freeway was three lanes's direction,
and then they expanded it to five and they said, well, hey,
when work at this to five lanes, everybody's gonna be fine.
You're gonna able to go out to this way out
community called Katie and be just fine. Five lanes is okay,
But Katie's explosion in population went twenty five fold.

Speaker 5 (16:39):
And again, you can't create nineteen thirteen lanes.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
Yeah, I mean you can't help. There's always so much
you can do, but it just feels like that every
time there's something that's been fixed with traffic, the next
layer of trouble, like this new downtown area, apparently it's
gonna be a hot mess in the Edo area, it's
gonna be I mean, it was a disaster getting off
of the HOV lane.

Speaker 5 (16:57):
Did they get fifty nine?

Speaker 2 (17:01):
Look not that I spent all the time with my
friends in Dallas or in San Antonio or Austin or
other major cities and say how's your Trafficcause everybod's gonna
say traffic SAgs. But do we do we do a
good enough job?

Speaker 5 (17:11):
I don't think so.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
But I just I don't know if we have if
it's our leadership or it's just we just we hired
the ACME School of Engineering or whatever the case may be.
And if you work for the city and you're engineering
in turn traffic, I'm sure you've got a very difficult job.
We have only had seven million people in our metropolitan area,
so somebody's gonna get screwed.

Speaker 5 (17:30):
But like my main entrance a.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
North Park to where we're going. When I get off
the fifty nine to go into my neighborhood. North Park
has been a complete disaster for three or four years.
The Graham Parkway this amazing, immaculate toll road. By the way,
I'm a far north end of town. If you're coming
from forty five to connect to fifty nine through the
Grand Parkway, you have to get off and go on

(17:55):
the feeder road for three miles. Why didn't they engineer
it to connect the Grand Parkway all the way to
fifty nine and then get on to fifty nine. It
adds ten minutes, you know, it's the category on Thursdays.

Speaker 5 (18:05):
I just don't get it. I don't know either.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
Maybe it's just they keep on making deals with construction
people and getting kickbacks, and then the wheels just keep
on turning. Merril, please tell me you're not suggesting kickbacks.
Oh please, come on now, corruption in this city. I'm
just saying, all right. Uh So we mentioned last night
the Texans do not get any ground on the AFC again.

Speaker 5 (18:30):
They're in the playoffs for nothing.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
Eagles, No, but I mean, being the six is so
much better than being this.

Speaker 5 (18:36):
Oh it is having seismic change. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
By the way, I'm gonna send Jonath, I'm gonna send
you some audio. Uh, justin Herbert. I didn't watch a
lot of the game because it is what it is,
you get family time. But I watch after the game.
What's that after the game? His interview or we're gonna
play that? Yeah, okay. He wasn't overly interested in talking

(18:59):
to Laura Rutledge.

Speaker 5 (19:00):
Know he was not, And I'm gonna send this. He
looked kind of pissed.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
Well, you know, and again, first of all, you're a quarterback,
so you have to do it. But I thought it frankly,
he was borderline rude to her. Yeah, and this is
not like he's a rookie. He's I mean his hand.
First of all, I did feel bad for him during
the course of the game because he was having a
he was constantly getting hit. He was, well, you go

(19:24):
out there with a broken hand in the NFL game,
what do you think's gonna happen? But he's not going
to survive it. It's not going to happen. He's going
he's going to not finish the season. I mean, there's
my gut feeling an hour at that time. Every time
he was throwing the ball, he was holding his hand,
the one that he doesn't throw with and then he
gets sacked, and then one time his hand hits his
own elbow as he's falling down. I mean, I give

(19:48):
him credit for being gutsy and trying to play through pain,
but Jesus, you have to have there's kind of rules.

Speaker 5 (19:54):
I believe both your.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
Ankle should work, your knees should work, your shoulders should work,
your hand should work off and for a quarter I
can be fine. I don't think they won the game.
They didn't win the game, but it wasn't pretty. He's
gonna be out there all right. So here is Laura.
We sent it to Jonathan. This is Laura Rutledge last
night after the game, I mean overtime win. They're one
step closer than making the playoffs. It felt like the

(20:17):
crowd in LA last night was about seventy five percent
Eagle fans, which is perfect normal for the Charger games.
And Laura's gonna do the ridiculously easy layup drill three
or four questions, and it just sounded like that Justin
wanted to be anywhere except beyond national television.

Speaker 5 (20:34):
Here it is, I'm the time to set my game.

Speaker 11 (20:38):
No I know, but can we just talking really fast?
What was it like to watch the interception there that
stealed this game for you guys to get this win.

Speaker 12 (20:46):
Yeah, the defense played incredible. You know, they came up
with so many big stops. Todays so so proud to
be able to play for those guys, and the way
they compete it down and down out is really fun
to watch.

Speaker 11 (20:55):
We know you were dealing with the broken hands tonight.
You gotted it out, you were hit multiple times.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
How are you feeling right now?

Speaker 3 (21:01):
Pretty good?

Speaker 5 (21:02):
Thank you?

Speaker 11 (21:02):
And then what can you say about the way that
this team was able to pull this off in overtime?
You guys know how important this game was and how
good the opponent was on the other side.

Speaker 12 (21:10):
Yeah, not the way we drew it up, but the
battle in these guys, you know, it's it's so much
fun and I'm so honored to be a part of
this team and they never quit and you know, it's
uh just fun to be a part of And we'll
watch the film and have to.

Speaker 2 (21:22):
Get better at it. Here's that mage too, But we
have to get better at it and keep moving forward.
I think he doesn't Yill clearly again, this is in
the moment the game just ended. Its celeb celebration onsightful. Wow, okay,
I mean first groundbreaking stuff. Thank you for again. These
are layup drills. Laura Rutches will never be a Woodward
or Burns team. I mean it is, but that's the

(21:43):
case report. That's that's after the game sideline report. I mean,
but the reality is this, and people say, well, you know,
he won't let him go celebrate with his bros.

Speaker 5 (21:52):
He's got hours and a whole day to celebrate with
his bros.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
The NFL does not make its money or to the
level that they enjoy right now without their television deals.
Period and end of story. You must play by television rules.
They're the ones that cut the biggest checks. And as
part of these checks, game coverage, network daytime media responsibilities.

(22:20):
And one of them is if you are an instrumental
part of a football game and ESPN or Netflix or
Prime or anybody else wants to talk to you, you
got to suck it up and answer three to four
softball questions for ninety seconds. It didn't look good on
his part at all. I didn't really didn't bother me.
He wants to go celebrate with his teammates. He had

(22:43):
hours to do it. Oh, he answered the questions. Yeah,
but do you hear what the very first thing it said,
I want to go celebrate on my teammatesh answer your questions.
I don't want to talk to you. You didn't want to
take softball questions from Lord Rushlands. That was a complete
waste of everyone's time. No, but that's what the network's demand.
And then I understand, and the television networks demand something
you have to I understand that, but I understand why
he doesn't want to do it. Travis Kelsey didn't speak

(23:06):
to the media after the game and against Kin State Chiefs,
and he got and that's that's that's a fault on him.

Speaker 4 (23:12):
You got.

Speaker 5 (23:12):
You know what you can't.

Speaker 2 (23:13):
You can't go run to your broadcast podcast with your
bro and do all these little funny little things on
the NFL today when things are good, and then when
things are bad, you shy away media responsibilities. And I've
learned this more than anything else. These television deals count.
That's why. And I know that the NBA, the players
right now are running into the situation where they're being
interviewed in the locker room, they're interviewing before the game.

(23:35):
You've got these silent reporters sitting next to the benches.
You want this check, not the individual player, but the
check that goes into the big call for money that
comes with responsibilities. And these NFL networks want more than
just the games. And so I just thought, come on, justin,
you want a game, answer the softball. You're done in
ninety seconds, and said it's terrible, his hands throbbing. Let

(23:57):
him let him walk kill, let him go get say
hi to his bros. They get some treatment. He's got
that new as you. I just he's still parting with
his bros right now.

Speaker 5 (24:06):
Needs to get that. And he went over and said,
I would have.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
Been with you guys a lot sooner if Laura Rutledge
would have maybe.

Speaker 4 (24:11):
Asked the dark question.

Speaker 2 (24:12):
He needs to go get that injection. He's gonna have
to get that injection. Maybe he's got beef with Laura Rutchel.
I mean she's no, you don't know that. I pretty
much know how many you better zero?

Speaker 5 (24:27):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (24:28):
I mean, if who's the meanest Sodder reporter that you
see out there, who's I don't think so. I don't
think the bow type makes him look good. Remember when
he got all mad at that that uh that camera
guy gotten his shot and he fell down and he's
death stared him. Yes, but that was a fellow employee.
I'm talking about to an athlete, like, who is the who?
Among the sodden reporters asked the most probing questions. I mean,

(24:51):
Aaron Andrews hugs people after she does the interview?

Speaker 5 (24:55):
Does she?

Speaker 4 (24:55):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (24:55):
Yeah? Her and Aaron Aaron Andrew Aaron Rodgers have hugged
multiple times.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
Yes, and then she goes home and cries because she's
missing holidays. Done, no kidding, Now, you just don't up
a new can of words.

Speaker 5 (25:09):
Just kidding. Hey, Jonathan, how's the clock for the No
Dame Press carvers?

Speaker 4 (25:15):
Were we at?

Speaker 2 (25:16):
I think it's all he says, it's up to a lot.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
We're at twenty nine minutes and kind of down.

Speaker 4 (25:22):
For seven.

Speaker 3 (25:23):
Oh man, I love this. Five hundred people are waiting
in right now, thirty minutes.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
Before, okay, so we have to make sure we take
our top of the hour break way early because we
don't want to be any even a second late for
this thing. Okay, because you know, if they're doing the
car going to break on time, that feels fair. That
does feel fair. Ten thirty one we're already hear from
Joe as spot. And next it is the Matt Thomas

(25:47):
Show with Ross seven one three two one two. God,
but you're not even a full not even been twenty minutes.
You're doing great, thank you. Seven one three two one
two five seven Dotty. There a couple of baseball notes
to bring in. Kyle Schwarber is gonna stay with the
Phillies and a five year deal with one hundred and
fifty million dollars rothy five years now. Schwarber is significantly

(26:12):
older than Kyle Tucker, so I feel like I'm getting
false hope. Stop laughing, not even laughing on Mike, Oh
my god.

Speaker 5 (26:28):
All right, Okay, that's enough from you.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
And then Edwin Diaz is moving from the Mets to
the Los Angeles Dodgers. I mean they need more relief
help for sure. Well, I don't know why you're playing sizzle.
There's nothing to do with the Dodgers and the Mets.

(26:54):
Oh sorry, my fingers slipped. Did I play the Bachi sizzle?
That was rude? H Isn't there a part of you
now with him and his cockiness and wants me to
be right? Isn't there just a small part. Yeah, Kylee
Schwarber is thirty two, he'll be thirty three in March,
five years one fifty. Maybe you got hope. I mean,

(27:16):
nothing's happened yet, this continued. I don't want to say
it's dragging on. It's only December, but there is an
impending lockout, impending it's going to happen. Or is it
a lockout or is there a strike lockout? Probably uh yeah,
the lockout would be like lockout, do not come. We
don't want to hear see you there. It's gonna be

(27:38):
a battle. So maybe nobody ahead of this lockout wants
to hand it out some giant mega deal. Oh, the
players want it for sure because they're definitely afraid what's
going to happen after. And it's interesting who's who really
is going to have the power on this because, as
I've talked about before, we don't mean overly simplify this,
but I don't there's no way the Cleveland Guardians philosophy
and ownership and baseball rules had the same philosophy of the

(27:58):
Dodgers and Mets do. They're just away the player. The
Major League Baseball Players Union those is the strongest in
Major American sports. So I feel like they are going
to so they'reied, but the owners are not unified.

Speaker 5 (28:10):
I mean, yeah, I don't think.

Speaker 2 (28:13):
I don't think the New Tampa Bay ownership is going
to be on the same page with the Dodgers winning
all these championships and signing Edwin Diaz and then heaven forbid,
they signed Kyle Tucker or something like that, like this
is this is just absurd. They're playing a different game
than everyone else, basically almost the level of the Yankees. Oh,
by the way, speaking the Dodgers again, did you see

(28:35):
this little nugget from yesterday? But the Detroit Tigers, yes,
I saw that, are certainly willing if the price is right,
to move tark Schooble and the.

Speaker 5 (28:43):
Dodgers brought up and the Dodgers are interested.

Speaker 2 (28:48):
H It's a great sport, but it's it's almost like
college football. You got the fifteen or esh not even
that many. You have the eight power teams, you have
the twenty two that just want to be there and
you and you're gonna have to decide who you're gonna be.
Are you gonna be one of the eight halves or

(29:09):
the twenty two have knots or you're gonna be in
between like the Astros. That's true, all right. Uh so
Joe A Spot I was on MLB Network yesterday and
there was a report, there was a reporter. He's not
even insight. He's just a guy that talks about the Astros.
He's he's an analyst. That's his name is Ross fill Rial.
It's like, man, we got to figure out a way

(29:29):
to get joseel Tube off a second base. The numbers
bear out that he is the worst in terms of
coverage second base. But no, he doesn't throw the ball
away and doesn't you can't not. But he's got nozip
on the ball. And like he used to. This is
what father time range and the range is. It was
never great to begin with, but it's certainly now limited
limited now. That was say even five or six years ago.

Speaker 5 (29:51):
Mm hmmm.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
So last year they're like, hey, we're gonna put you
out into dyk In Park in the off season. We're
gonna hide you out in leftfield. You we're gonna you're
gonna hit the you're gonna be playing the the Crawford
Box wall and all that kind of good stuff. Have
a good time out there and it lasted for a
short time, but then slowly but surely he would trickle
back into second base.

Speaker 5 (30:10):
Yes he did.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
And I mean that's a lot of that was injuries
and the way the roster was constructed. He played a
lot of DH because your almost hurt so much, right
and second base because you you had injuries there, so.

Speaker 5 (30:22):
You had Bryce Matthews. You just couldn't do it.

Speaker 2 (30:24):
I mean, Paradius got hurt, Dubond you didn't want to
play six days await you pain?

Speaker 5 (30:29):
You miss some time? Yeah, and it opened up some
things in the infield. So what's she going to do.

Speaker 2 (30:34):
Well, here's Joe Aspata on jose Al Tube, perhaps in
his role in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 13 (30:41):
I like the fact that he is open to help
him do whatever he takes, you know, would help the team.
But I think second base is his flying position. I
think we're going to see him play there more this season,
you know, giving us some starts in left field. That's
something that I will sit down and talk to him
about that. But right now is I need to keep
our healthy. I think a lot of these players can

(31:02):
play multiple positions. Parttis can play some second, third, and
first base. It allows me to keep Korea and Walker healthy.
The DH spot. I'm also going to use that spot
to keep those guys off.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
Their feet some.

Speaker 13 (31:14):
So you know, I got some really good players that
once they're healthy, it's a really good team to uh to.
It's gonna be a really tough team to beat.

Speaker 5 (31:26):
Did I hear what I thought I heard?

Speaker 2 (31:27):
You heard it? It's still too congestive an infield. Ah.
We kind of talked about this. Can I say right
now and it's it would be again. I'm trying to
get feeling here. Eleven thirty. How is Prettis was really

(31:49):
redefined himself as a third baseman last year and probably
played beyond expectations because man, we you and I were
literally in front of Joe Spy was like he's good,
all right, all right, all right, and we could live
with it, you know that kind of third base. Yes,
and you want to being in a not exemporary but
he was above average pio position.

Speaker 5 (32:08):
Yeah, he caught everything.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
His range isn't there, no, but he caught everything that
came to him as a vacuum cleaner at thirty one.
So the question is going to be at the end
of the day, who is better at second base? Is
it isak Pereides with a hamstring in limited range. That's
the reason why he's always been primarily a third baseman.

Speaker 5 (32:27):
Uh huh?

Speaker 2 (32:28):
Or do you go with Jose Altube, who they a
year ago tried to say, You know what, Jose, your
time as a second basement is limited. I think we
are going to see a fair amount of paratus at second, first,
and third, depending on moving guys around. Carlos care is
now going to be what thirty three thirty four, so
you're going to see him not play one hundred and

(32:48):
sixty two. And Joe is going to have to fit
the puzzle pieces together, getting yord On off of his
feet in DH, getting him in the left field at
Dykin Park, or you know, win there, whether there's when
there's a ground ball pitcher or whatever. It's gonna be
a lot of mixing and matching. For those guys who
get mad, why Joe spot a change the lineup every day?

(33:09):
Get used to it for next year too. And by
the way, I'm getting late word the Astros are petitioning
baseball for two d hs per game.

Speaker 5 (33:15):
Yeah, that'd be nice. It would certainly hap because al.

Speaker 2 (33:17):
Two eight he by the numbers, he was the worst
second baseman and maybe the worst left field or in
baseball last year. But it's exactly you can't touch. Like
I said, if his name was Steve Jones, and he
would be he would.

Speaker 5 (33:34):
Not look like a Steve Jones.

Speaker 2 (33:37):
They'd be renegotiating his deal or working something out to
trade him or get him somewhere else. But his name
is Jose Al Tuban, and he's the greatest aster of
all time, and he can't miss him. He's one of
the greatest astros of all time. He's the most beloved
astro of all time.

Speaker 5 (33:49):
For sure.

Speaker 2 (33:51):
More on Joe throughout the course of our program today.
He's got stuff on Paradis and jord On which we
can get to that as well.

Speaker 5 (33:57):
Yeah, we will definitely do for sure.

Speaker 2 (33:58):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven nine zero. Gordy's
gonna come in. We're gonna predict what Notre Dame is
gonna do next. And we are fifteen minutes away from
the press conference here on.

Speaker 1 (34:12):
Seven ninety matten Ross return return on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (34:21):
Nine minutes away, nine minutes forty nine, nine minutes.

Speaker 5 (34:25):
Forty Keep the clock going, what did they get that clock?
So Gordy can't can't be long winded here.

Speaker 2 (34:31):
Gordy's here to hang out with us for a couple
of minutes to predict the tone and the essence of
the press conference that Notre Dame will be having with
athletic director in about nine minutes from now.

Speaker 5 (34:42):
We're you thinking, well, nobody saying anything yet.

Speaker 14 (34:45):
You gotta understand a few things with Notre Dame. They
are an independent in football, have been for a long time.
Years ago they made the decision to join the ACC.
In all the other sports I believe, well, I think
in baseball they competed in the Big East.

Speaker 4 (35:01):
For a bit.

Speaker 14 (35:02):
I don't know, it's very strange, but basketball they're ACC. Right,
they made a deal, you know, whenever and all the
conference stuff was what's happening Oklahoma and Texas joining the SEC,
the PAC twelve going, could put all that stuff. They
made the decision, you know what, I think it was
during the COVID year, right, they played ACC teams and

(35:23):
they went, you know what, will be one foot in,
one foot out with the AEC, We're gonna agree to
make an agreement with them to play five.

Speaker 4 (35:30):
ACC teams a year.

Speaker 14 (35:32):
So it's this really half ass like we're kind of
in the conference.

Speaker 4 (35:36):
We're kind of not.

Speaker 14 (35:38):
Because again, they played the Service academies and they play
USC and that's kind of the Notre Dame schedule every year.
So in a way to boost their schedule, they thought, Okay,
we'll kind of come to this agreement with the ACC. Well,
problem is the ACC is as crappy as it's been
and so they really got no boost from playing those games.
So I think the announcement is going to be their

(35:58):
ending that agreement with football that or we are.

Speaker 4 (36:02):
Still a true independent.

Speaker 14 (36:03):
We will remain a true independent and we ain't playing
these ACC games college they're gonna stay.

Speaker 2 (36:09):
So your predictions are gonna end their five game ACC requirement.

Speaker 14 (36:14):
Yeah, and I think that's silly because read the read
the tea leaves the SEC and the Big ten are
they've been talking about this for a while about doing
a non conference challenge. The SEC already has a rule
that you have to play one Power five opponent in
your non conference. So if they come to that agreement,

(36:35):
guess what the SEC is gonna do. The SEC next
year is going to nine conference games. So now you're
down to three non conference games. If one of them
is going to be a part a Big Ten opponent,
guess what the other two are gonna be cupcakes. Nobody's
gonna schedule Notre Dame. So Notre Dame goes, hey, SEC
would love the schedule summer teams. Nope, not interested. We're
already playing a Big ten team and we need the
two cupkicks.

Speaker 2 (36:55):
So is there any part that says the ACC says, oh,
you don't want to play ass Well, guess what, You're
out of our league completely, do not do not schedule basketball?
Why don't you go and try to be as a
basketball school? And I guess grant now there's another conference
scooping up right away.

Speaker 14 (37:08):
Yeah, the ACC sounded pretty uh, I don't know what
the word is. Like they wanted to mend that fence yesterday,
so it sounds like they are they are coming to
the table going, hey, what can we do Notre Dame
to fix this. But Notre Dame's the one trying to go.
We are the biggest brand. We have a deal with NBC. Yeah,
it's like, all right, but you've been largely irrelevant for

(37:30):
the last twenty five years.

Speaker 2 (37:32):
Yeah, it just seems like they're throwing a huge hissy
fit right now, so I don't know what they're going
to be. Cooler heads prevailing. After twenty four hours ago.

Speaker 14 (37:41):
Georgia was twelve and zero, went to the SEC Championship,
lost by three to Alabama and dropped from the number
two team in the country to what six or seven?
And that was the four team playoff, But Georgia did
not go to a They didn't go to the playoff
that year. You know what, Georgia, they put on their
big boy pants. They what about their business. They beat
the crop out of Florida State and whatever bowl that was, Yes,
and Georgia's back in the playoffs the next year.

Speaker 4 (38:03):
So Notre Dame, you can do the same thing here.
You can bitch for a day.

Speaker 14 (38:07):
We'll put your big boy pants on, go play your
stupid pop Tar bowl and try to make a run
next year.

Speaker 5 (38:11):
But they're not doing They choked that game against A
and M. By the way, Notre.

Speaker 14 (38:15):
Dame, Oh yeah, what A and M's backup tight end
on a fourth down?

Speaker 4 (38:20):
You know, come on, all.

Speaker 2 (38:21):
Right, before we get to that press conference, let's remind
the folks how you h is gonna beat the hell
out of LSU coming up December the twenty game.

Speaker 14 (38:29):
Well just got news today. LSU's about five or six
big name guys will.

Speaker 5 (38:34):
Not be because they're scared.

Speaker 2 (38:42):
West Virginia wasn't scared getting ready for the NFL Draft
because that's what LSU guys do.

Speaker 14 (38:47):
But December twenty seventh, eight point fifteen. I love that
it's on a Saturday this year. The Texas Bowl. Kinders
Texas Bowl dot com is where you can get tickets
the twenty first rank Houston Cougars and the LSU Tigers
battling out of the grid art NRG in the twenty
twenty five Kinders Texas Poll. All tickets on sale now,
the Koogs, the Tigers at at RG. What more could

(39:08):
you be looking for? Tickets are going fast. Kinders Texas
bull dot Com for tickets.

Speaker 2 (39:13):
Thank you very much, Gordy, And if you want to
pop in again after this go let's have a little
post post GORDI reaction.

Speaker 4 (39:20):
Let's see what happens.

Speaker 14 (39:20):
What is what's three on the table and announce we're
signing a multi year deal with you of h to
play them in football.

Speaker 2 (39:27):
That'd be worthy of a press conference, for sure. We'll
find out in five minutes here on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 1 (39:31):
Eighty is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross CFP.

Speaker 7 (39:37):
In the National press over the course of the last
twenty four to thirty six hours, and like Claire said,
we thought this would be a great opportunity to get
everybody together, you know, people we interact with day in
and day out, and answer any questions, you know, but
not just about obviously one of the key topics out
there right now, the CFP and the process, but about
all of our programs, Notre Dame, any one of our

(39:58):
sports kind of what's going in college space. This is
something we want to do at least once a year,
just to spend time with all of you and give
you an inside look of what's going on here at
Notre Dame. But no secret we were shocked, I would say,
mystified by what happened on Sunday and just you know

(40:21):
where my head and heart go. And I know Marcus
feels the same way. You just feel for those student
athletes on our football team. You know, as I said yesterday,
as I said on Sunday, we felt we did everything
we could over the course of the season. You know,
we lost our first two games. We're not hiding from that.
We lost against a really good Miami team. We lost

(40:43):
a nail bier against Texas A and M two great teams,
by a total of four points. And then we did
everything we needed to do. We had one of the
most ten one of the most dominant ten games runs
in the history of college football. And on top of that,
we felt that the cf the Committee, the ranking committee
felt the same way. You go back to that first

(41:05):
ranking where we were six and two and Miami was
six and two, and they had already beaten us, and
we were tenth and they were eighteenth, And the only
thing that happened from that point forward is we both
went on these amazing runs, and through no fault of
our own, we wake up and find out that, you know,
we're the odd man out, We're on the outside looking in,
and it's just you know, as I've said, all the

(41:27):
credit in the world to the other teams that are in,
they are twelve terrific teams, teams that have won conference championships.
Miami I think the world of the program. I think
it's one of the great universities in this country. Dan
Radikovich is a good friend Miami deserves to be in
the CFP. Of course they do, and Alabama does as well,

(41:48):
and you could make that argument for Texas and Vanderbilt,
and you could go right on down the list. But
you know, we were just led to believe all season long,
if we took care of business, we were going to
be in and then to have that shock, that surprise
on Sunday in that room with those kids who have
given everything that they have since August to put themselves

(42:12):
in that position to be told week in and week
out that you're in that position provided you win, and
we certainly want When you think about these last ten weeks,
and it just boggles my mind that when we got
off that plane that Sunday morning in snowy South Bend
after the Stanford game, that that was it. And that's
not the way this season deserved to end with the

(42:36):
performance of our football team. And I'm biased, of course,
I'm a million percent biased when it comes to Notre Dame,
but you ask anybody in college football, we're one of
the best teams in the country. We're one of those
handful of teams that could absolutely win the national championship
this year. And then standing up here today, knowing that

(42:56):
we have zero percent chance of proving that on the
field is a bitter pill to swallow. But it's a
situation we're in. And you know what frustrates me, and
I know what frustrates Marcus is there's just no good
explanation normally when you stand in front of these young
student athletes who've poured their heart and soul and they
have limited opportunities in life to do this. You're only

(43:18):
eighteen to twenty two for so long, there are only
so many seasons. There are hundreds of seasons in the
history of Notre Dame football, and hopefully they'll be hundreds
of more seasons. But it's a finite amount of time
in these kids' lives. And they put everything they had
into it and position themselves and thought they did everything
they needed to do, and it was just the ultimate

(43:42):
gut punched to know that this team doesn't get to
proceed and try to play for a national championship. So
you know where my head is. I know. You know
Coach Freeman, I spent most of the day Sunday with him,
you know, and he's going through the same emotions. But
you know, you got to pick yourself up dust yourself
off and start thinking about next season. And really now

(44:02):
our focus is on those those those guys on the
football team are student athletes. What's best for them because
they're you know, these these are tough days for them
as well, and that's a lot more important how I
feel about this, is how they feel about this. So
I wanted to get that, you know, state that upfront.
And you know, when you think about Notre Dame right now, uh,

(44:26):
we've got a lot going on, you know, a lot
going on in the college space. This is a time
of unprecedented change, luckily for us, and because of the
history of Notre Dame, we have a seat at the
table in terms of talking about what's next for college sports,
what's best for college sports, maybe perhaps what needs to
change for college sports. So we have our eye on
the national landscape about what needs to happen in college

(44:47):
sports to preserve something that's so great. And then we're
kind of getting the around running. Obviously really excited about
the start of our men's basketball season. You know, coach
Shrewsbury doing an amazing job. We had an unfortunate injury,
as you all saw with Marcus and I'm sure Michael
will address that, you know later on today. But a
great start to the season, young talent playing unbelievably well

(45:11):
and on the women's side, doing a different team than
last year. No secret about that player in the country
and Hannah Hidalgo.

Speaker 5 (45:21):
Let's get to football, come on now.

Speaker 7 (45:22):
See how that season progresses as well. Other programs here
that are uh, you know, really gearing up for an
exciting winter and an exciting spring. But with that, I'd
love to open it to questions, and.

Speaker 2 (45:35):
Why did you play the ball game? I'd answer, And
why did you play the ball games? Why did you
play the ball game? Why did you play the ball game?

Speaker 7 (45:41):
I don't need the mic, I can hear it.

Speaker 15 (45:46):
I was curious you mentioned permanent damage with the A
C C. What is the next step in assessing that
relationship and what what what was the damage specifically?

Speaker 7 (45:59):
Yeah, I would tell you know again, and we have
the ultimate respect for the fellow universities, and now you
see wonderful universities with wonderful athletic programs. So it's not
about the universities. It's not about Miami. You know. I've
texted back and forth with Dan Radakovich. I sent him

(46:19):
a text last night saying I'm so happy you guys
made it, and I hope you go deep. I think
you have the talent to win it all. But what
isn't really get to us by and disappointed was how
the ACC conference really went on a social media campaign,

(46:40):
in my opinion, attacking our football program. Miami had done that,
and they didn't. I get it. You know, all's fair.
You know, there's a great rivalry, decades long rivalry between
Notre Dame and Miami, and that's the spirit of the
universities and the football programs and fandom, and that's what
makes college football special. Whether it's Notre Dame, Miami, Notre Dame, USC, Michigan, Ohio.

Speaker 5 (47:04):
State, Notre Dame is different.

Speaker 7 (47:08):
And it raised a lot of eyebrows, and you know,
we made our feelings known that we didn't particularly understand this,
and it just kind of puzzled us that a conference
that's home to over six hundred of our student athletes
walking around this campus today. I guess chose to go
down that road. I guess intellectually I understand it, but

(47:28):
I certainly don't agree with it. And why would you
attack an unbelievably important business partner of yours in football
and a member of your conference in twenty four other sports.
I'm one person. I don't see the logic in that.
I know other leaders at the university didn't see the
logic in that. And the ACC is important to us,

(47:50):
and you know we're important to the ACC. And think
about football for a minute. Uh, you know those ACC
teams want to play us in football. Interesting stat since
twenty fourteen when we started our football relationship with the ACC,
if you look at stadiums, they sell out. ACC game
sellout roughly twenty three percent of the time a year

(48:11):
CC site, it's ninety percent of the time. When you
think about ratings for ACC foot game, there's a tremendous lift.
I don't understand why you would go on a social
media campaign to attack an important partner. Uh you know, well,
who's some of our important partners in the football space. NBC.
We wouldn't do that to NBC. Now. I understand they

(48:33):
have to stand up for their teams in football. We
just think there's other ways to do it and it
has created damage. I mean, I'm not going to shy
away from that. And that's just not me speaking. People
a lot more important at this university than me feel
the same way. So I think it has done some
real damage and I think the ACC knows that.

Speaker 15 (48:55):
And my follow up is expanding at some point to
fourteen or sixteen teams. What needs to be fixed with
the process, because you question the process, not necessarily who's
in and who's out, and how do you Pete Bovak
will go about helping.

Speaker 7 (49:13):
To fix that. Yeah, you know, there's human beings making
these decisions, so they're never going to be perfect. That's understandable.
But you get with these weekly shows and weekly rankings,
very strong signals are being sent. Okay, Notre Dame and
the first ranking you are ten at six and two. Well,

(49:36):
we did nothing from that point until last Sunday, but
to prove to the world that we've gotten better each week,
progressed each week, have the best player in the country
on our team and Jeremiah Love. We've done everything from
that point, not even to put into question whether we
should stay at ten or get better. To me, all
the empirical data in the world suggests we should get better.

(49:59):
So we had to start point of being tenth dominated
the rest of the season and are on the outside
looking in. So how do you fix that either have
a really serious a series of defined metrics that everybody
can rely on and see and know what they're going into,
or you have one ranking show at the end and say, Okay,

(50:20):
here's what it is and here's why we thought. And
that would have been less of a shock to the system,
to our team than what happened was. Because if you
wake up every day for five six weeks and say
you're in, you're in, You're in, and what you do
in response to that is you win in dominant fashion.
You know, seventy points, fifty points, forty nine, I mean

(50:41):
just week in and week out, and you have Jeremiah
and Jadarian, you know, they look like they're out of
the matrix, and it just everything going well. And then
you wake up on Sunday and you're in a room
with these eighteen to twenty two year olds who were like,
all right, are we ninth or we tenth? Let's get
to practice, let's go going, let's win a national championship.

(51:02):
Wait a second, sorry, you know what. There was a
game where a team went through it and fourth down
or lost to this team in week one, and we
asked everything to go back and watch it.

Speaker 5 (51:17):
Well, you feel sorry for we.

Speaker 7 (51:19):
Don't see the last and all that is something that
has to be fixed because you know, I said it yesterday,
we take this very seriously at Notre Dame. Marcus Freeman
takes this very seriously. Our coaches, our student athletes, our administration,
these rankings and I said it, so I'm repeating myself,
but they can't be a game of musical chairs at

(51:42):
a fifth grade birthday party. And that's what it felt
like to us, and I don't appreciate that because of
the impact it's had on the on the kids in
that room. Everson University. Quite frankly, these are big decisions
and we just have not had anybody answer us in
a way that and that gives us an satisfaction at all.

Speaker 5 (52:01):
As for what happened ball game, let's go last question.

Speaker 16 (52:08):
What went in just the sequencing of the social media
posts that caught your attention, but then also what communication
did you have at that point with the conference, specifically
with Jim, and then what happened next? If you could
just take us through that timeline.

Speaker 7 (52:23):
Yeah, I mean, I don't have the exact timeline in
front of me, so I'll give you generalities about the
timing of it, you know this, I think it was
like a three to three and a half week campaign.
Saw the first social media post and my gut reaction
was somebody in their social immediate department got over their
skis and did something that the ACC was going to correct.

(52:43):
And quite frankly, I was kind of expecting a phone
call saying, hey, sorry about that. It won't happen again.
But then it did happen again, and we started to
communicate with the ACC texts that I sent, emails that
I sent, and it continued to happen, and I had
a conversation at a phone call with Jimmy we could

(53:04):
go today, saying hey, listen, that's a conversation I want
to keep between me and Jimmy. But certainly got the
point across that this was raised eyebrows and you got
to know it's caused damage here between the university and
the ACC.

Speaker 16 (53:19):
Just to play his side or their side, Hey, we're
promoting our team. We're also doing other comparative tweets or
whatever it is. Why did you still feel like you
guys were being targeted throughout that period of time.

Speaker 7 (53:32):
Well, we were definitely being targeted, and for better or
for worse, we have a different relationship with the ACC
than any other team in college football other than the
teams that are in the ACC, because we're in the
ACC for twenty four sports. We have a scheduling agreement
with the ACC. And again, the ACC does wonderful things
for a Notre Dame, but we bring tremendous football value

(53:54):
to the ACC and we didn't understand why you would
go out of your way to try to damage us
in this process.

Speaker 17 (54:04):
Have you spoken with any powerful commissioners since Sunday? And
if so, what were those conversations kind of focused on
since Sunday?

Speaker 7 (54:12):
The only commissioner I've spoken to on a couple of
great conversations with it was Greg Sanky. Greg and I talk. Oh,
I can't tell you how much I admire Greg and
his leadership, and you know, good conversations really about format process. Yeah, sure,
gave him my viewpoint on the process. He shared some
thoughts that he had with me that obviously between Greg

(54:34):
and me format Greg knows they all know how I
feel about the format. Go and put the process aside.
The format. I mean, you know, four teams, twelve teams,
fourteen teams, sixteen teams, thousand teams should be sixteen teams
in my opinion, with five automatic qualifiers and eleven at large.
Think about that this year, if we had four teams,

(54:57):
it would have been perfect. I don't think anybody you
would argue that those aren't the right four teams that
are one through four right the way they're playing Texas Tech,
Ohio State, Indiana, and Georgia. You know, particularly Indiana, what
an unbelievable season they've had, and Georgia, Georgia looks fantastic.
Sixteen would have been perfect, Notre Dame, Texas, Vanderbilt, you

(55:18):
know who else is in there. It's never you know,
a year to a year, You're never going to have
the same data points each year. It's never going to
work out perfectly whether you had four teams, twelve, fourteen,
or sixteen. What I like about sixteen is it does
create for more opportunity, does create more narratives around more schools,
and yet preserves the integrity and the importance of the

(55:40):
regular season. And I think that's one of the greatest
things college football has going for it. The regular season
is more important in college football than it is in
any other sport by a mile. You know, think about
college basketball, it's just different. Think about the NFL, Major
League Baseball, the NBA, Well, it's football. I mean, hey,

(56:01):
we see it. We see it last year, we saw
it this year. We knew last year when we lost
to NIU we had no wiggle room. Every game was
a bowl game, Every game was a CFP game. This year,
after we lost in the last second to A and
M zero room for error. Turns out we didn't even
have zero room for error. But we think I think

(56:22):
sixteen teams with that five and eleven breakdown is the
way to go. And I think the vast fast majority
of people in the CFP management room feel the same way.

Speaker 17 (56:32):
And then it seems like some schools have found a
way to work around the house cap. Is there any
update from your end on where that kind of stands,
just with new information coming out?

Speaker 7 (56:40):
Yeah, I would tell you. You know, we are huge
proponents of the house settlement. Notre Dame give credit to
Notre Dame. Before I arrived here in this role, was
huge proponents and endorse the concept of student athletes being
fairly compensated. What you have now with the cap, I mean,
let's be let's be realistic with each other the cap

(57:04):
is twenty point five million. The first two point five
million of scholarships counts off the cap, you're left with
eighteen million dollars. And yeah, you're going to schools around
the country are going to use that compensation for nil opportunities,
primarily for football, men's and women's basketball. So even if
you start at eighteen, most schools around the country, you're
starting to think about a number in the fifteen sixteen

(57:26):
million dollar range if you're placing a great emphasis on
the value of the football program, which most major power
for conference schools are and we are. But then you
read things and see things about what teams are setting
aside for roster numbers. You see it in news reports,
you see it in the back and forth with coaches negotiations.

(57:50):
So the numbers you're hearing and the numbers we know
that are out there don't compute with the cap number.
So I think we have to be honest and forthright
with ourselves and have a set of rules that are
realistic and reflect what's happening, reflect major college football in
twenty twenty five and beyond. I think the CAP's too low,

(58:10):
and I think if we keep operating under this rule
of where the cap is. Most major programs are going
to have a heck of a tough time going backwards
because you read the same news reports that I do.
You read and know about the same roster numbers for
nil and compensation that I do. Instead of making pretend
that doesn't exist, let's deal with it and come up

(58:33):
with a set of rules that can be followed, and
then hold people's feet to the fire.

Speaker 4 (58:40):
Here we go.

Speaker 5 (58:40):
This is it.

Speaker 18 (58:42):
When a decision is made, just skip the postseason. Yeah,
collar season bonuses that are part of standard coaching contracts
and stack contracts, compensation handle.

Speaker 7 (58:53):
Yeah, we talked a bit about that. The way we
structure them is we never want things just to be
about one game. In national chainampionships different obviously, you know
there's a great bonus structure for our coaches if you
win a national championship. But I can tell you that
the coaches compensation contracts and the bonus concepts, the difference

(59:14):
between the decision that we made and going to play
in one of these other bowls is inconsequential. Well up
the middle of the peopurn, I wanted to follow up on
some of your thoughts on the ACC.

Speaker 5 (59:31):
Let's pull out. We're good, let's marin ana what we
just heard?

Speaker 2 (59:42):
No bombs yet, but he's bad and didn't want to
tell us exactly. He was probably swearing a bunch of whining.
God it was whining. It was nothing but whining. Good God,
he's crying over spill. He called a press conference to
cry more over spilled. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (59:57):
I mean there's no announcement, not anything.

Speaker 3 (59:59):
And nobody asked.

Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
Them the first six questions about why you're skipping the
bowl game. I thought it was about the student athletes.
AH eleven, twenty one on Sports Talk seven eighty all right, look,
I'm not totally surprised with what we heard for the
last twenty minutes. I was looking for a little more

(01:00:21):
dirt on the why we went on the most dominant
running college football history. This is their dominant run of
ten straight wins Perdue, Arkansas, Boise State, n C State, USC,
Boston College, Navy, pitt Syracuse, Stanford. That's the ten and oh,
that is the most dominant run in college football history.

(01:00:43):
How many of those ACC schools are they playing? Did
they player in the bowl? Pittsburgh's in a bowl? Uh,
Boston College no, Stanford, No, No, Syracuse I don't think so.

Speaker 5 (01:00:55):
No, I don't think Nancy State.

Speaker 2 (01:00:58):
I don't. But they're all mids. NC State went seven
and five. Okay, so they're in, and let's see what
happened to Syracuse.

Speaker 5 (01:01:07):
No, they're three in nine.

Speaker 2 (01:01:08):
Syracuse went three and nine, one of the most dominant
ten game runs in college It's football history, and it's
those teams I just named. By the way, he was
cute when he dropped the SEC. The SEC under no
circumstance is going to allow them to be on NBC.
If the if Notre Dame can, we'll get off their

(01:01:29):
high horse and end their ties with the NBC.

Speaker 5 (01:01:35):
Folks.

Speaker 2 (01:01:37):
They might consider it, but hell, if you're the SEC,
you don't need Notre Dame. Tell me why you would
need Notre Dame mid You know you don't need television sets.
You've already every one of your games, even your mid
level Mississippi State Arkansas games draws ten million people.

Speaker 5 (01:01:55):
You don't.

Speaker 2 (01:01:55):
You don't need them. You don't need you don't need
their television sets. You just don't. I dropped the most
we we I said it yesterday, the most watched college
football team. Let me count them real quick. Six seven, eight, eight,
of the top ten SEC teams. Yeah, you know, so
back fifteen years ago, you wanted TV sets the only
the only two in the top ten that were not

(01:02:17):
SEC teams, or Ohio State and Michigan to the Big
ten again, would would these schools take them? Yes, but
they're not going to let Notre Dame have its own deal.
They're they're going to Notre Dame is going to have
to take is going to say no thank you to
the check from NBC. And again, if I'm the SEC,
I don't know. Do I want to rock the voting

(01:02:38):
on another team?

Speaker 5 (01:02:39):
Yes? You think so.

Speaker 2 (01:02:41):
They're accumulating, they're trying to kill every single the more
brands you have, you're shutting everyone out. I mean, this
is just basically monopolistic. Uh, I mean, this is the
American dream here. What's happening? Eat it all up?

Speaker 5 (01:02:54):
Netflix is buying Warner Brothers Discovery, Like you just go
go more and more and more and more and more.
It's like Walmart buying out a little smam and pop store.

Speaker 8 (01:03:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:03:02):
Absolutely, Yeah, That's what I'm saying. Like, if if you
really want a corner the market, you keep acquiring, you
get all of you know, Matt like Danos, he's getting
all the stones. Okay, Notre Dame's another stone, and then
really you're just missing Ohio State and Michigan say to me,
to me, I think the Big Ten makes not necessarily

(01:03:24):
not geographics. Geographic sense for sure, but you are lagging
the SEC in significant numbers and everything. Notre Dame could
get you even closer to the supremacy of the SEC.
And you also have to get votes from the votes
from the other schools. I think the commissioners would probably
agree to some sort of deal where Notre Dame makes
more than everyone else.

Speaker 3 (01:03:45):
Right now, he's saying that it was the right decision
just for this season to not do a bowl game. Okay, hockey, yes,
and the next game the next season might be a
different situation.

Speaker 2 (01:03:56):
Well, of course, because he feels like he seems not
gonna be in that position over again. It's easy to
say that it's easy for him to say this is
only a one time thing. If they're bitch and moaning
about it this year, they'll bitch and moan it a
again in the future. As as I tweeted out yesterday,
there's a conference that would take them with open arms
and let them have NBC and let them have more

(01:04:18):
money than everybody else.

Speaker 5 (01:04:19):
Me be the Big Twelve.

Speaker 2 (01:04:21):
The Big Twelve would get a significant boost by bringing
Notre Dame in. Now, would Notre Dame go do? I
would Notre Dame go. I can be independent and maybe
play five Big twelve.

Speaker 5 (01:04:34):
Schools a year. Big twelve would get on their knees.

Speaker 2 (01:04:36):
Twelve would do that in a heartbeat and let them
make a bunch of more money than everyone else. Now
there is now the athletic director did is honest. When
Notre Dame comes to your building, you're gonna have a
bigger crowd. For instance, Wake Forest has Syracuse come to
their games. Nobody cares. Notre Dame comes to wake Forest.

(01:04:57):
They're filling out the stadium. They just start. Notre Dame
is a national brand. I guarantee you Houston gets Notre
Dame once every four years, just compared to Note Houston
getting Arizona.

Speaker 5 (01:05:07):
One's everyone for four years. Go Irish, bring your people in.

Speaker 2 (01:05:11):
So yeah, I mean, I do believe there is some
national cachet with Notre Dame. But what Notre Dame thinks
it's national cachet and what it really is. Certainly they're
bigger than they. Yeah, that's right, but I guess that's
all of us. But that's yeah. I mean, look at
our show. We think we're the best thing going on earth.

Speaker 3 (01:05:29):
But clearly you already had somebody calling me and cussing
you out because you was talking over the Notre dame pressure.

Speaker 5 (01:05:37):
Was he a Catholic?

Speaker 4 (01:05:38):
I guess.

Speaker 2 (01:05:40):
Sorry, father old Grady. We we had to, we had
to add something to it.

Speaker 4 (01:05:44):
It was just.

Speaker 5 (01:05:46):
It was a good instinct by you. Mess she was mad,
she was real bad. It was a woman. Oh yeah,
I think it was a shot out to Debbie.

Speaker 19 (01:05:54):
Debb.

Speaker 2 (01:05:54):
We called the show right now, if you're really that mad,
come on, Debbie. Press conferences largely are really boring, and
there were semantics involved with it, and so we had
to add something to it.

Speaker 13 (01:06:03):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:06:04):
I don't want to typically talk over press conferences.

Speaker 5 (01:06:06):
But that needed to be done.

Speaker 2 (01:06:08):
Let's get a quick time out and we'll go with
Anthony and then we're gonna get to the gut feelings
seven one two five seven, And you gotta complain about
the show, call us. Don't call Jonathan. He's busy, busy
texting his girl.

Speaker 5 (01:06:21):
Wait wait, wait.

Speaker 2 (01:06:24):
Over your working Yeah, so I'm saying, antexting your girl,
and that's fine. Who got a nice message from Stephanie?
She says, Matt, I'm catholic. I would like to thank
you for talking over that press conference. Why did he
call it in the first place?

Speaker 5 (01:06:37):
Zzz. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:06:39):
I have to make the editorial decision as the host.
A cost of this show one then to talk over
press conference or not. And if there's relevant, interesting things,
I certainly, under zero circumstances want to speak over them.
But he was blabbering, whining, whining, crying, crying, bitching, moaning.

Speaker 5 (01:06:58):
We hit some kind of he's still is he still talking?

Speaker 3 (01:07:01):
He's turned it off?

Speaker 2 (01:07:03):
Turn it turned it? What's going for five seconds?

Speaker 5 (01:07:06):
Cut him up? He's still bitching about it.

Speaker 7 (01:07:09):
Shows Joanna. So are his kids?

Speaker 20 (01:07:12):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (01:07:12):
He's typing back there by the way.

Speaker 7 (01:07:14):
He said, as you've heard me say before, he's at
soccer games, women's and men's basketball.

Speaker 3 (01:07:18):
Oh yes, it's almost forty minutes.

Speaker 2 (01:07:24):
Man, good god, he's having an open therapy session. Everybody's
everybody's needs a bill him. Now.

Speaker 5 (01:07:29):
You know, Chicago is a huge Notre Dame market.

Speaker 2 (01:07:32):
I wonder if there's sports radio the whole thing, Man,
that's forty minutes.

Speaker 5 (01:07:36):
You go get some lunch. ROSSI, that's fine.

Speaker 4 (01:07:39):
I had to go go.

Speaker 2 (01:07:40):
Let me tell you when Crystal Conte and the Texas
Longhorns get screwed out of a national tournament in a
couple of years, we will carry it live, Crystal content,
call it press conference. No he didn't, okay, because he's
a growing ass man.

Speaker 5 (01:07:53):
That's crazy.

Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
We were we were misled.

Speaker 5 (01:07:59):
We were sweat for weeks. Listen, I told you last week.
Listen to the committee.

Speaker 2 (01:08:04):
They said head to head will matter when the ratio,
when it's closer. This should not be a shock to
anybody that was paying attention, which clearly Pete Bovaqua was
only talking to people that are slurping up Notre Dame,
and so he got blindsided. This is what happens when
you get in a bubble and everybody's loving on you
and telling you're the greatest thing ever, and then you
get out of your bubble and find out maybe you're not.

Speaker 5 (01:08:25):
Yeah, by the way, I had to do it for
the audio.

Speaker 2 (01:08:27):
There was the typer in the background, there was somebody
eating something back there. It was my responsibility. Yeah, I
take great, you know again. Unwrapping candy. Yeah, is he
going into the second hour? Do you think we opened
the news at new with him to say so? He's
still going keeping ready just in case? Is he don't
want to send it filibuster?

Speaker 3 (01:08:48):
What is going on?

Speaker 5 (01:08:51):
Sheesh? Ridiculous?

Speaker 2 (01:08:55):
I mean, oh man, I mean, I look, Rossie, if
you and ironunder Dame grads were, we're super pissed because
again the rankings ahead of time had us ahead of Miami.

Speaker 5 (01:09:05):
Because I'm presuming, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:09:07):
So I I get it. I you knower the category.
If I just don't get it, I get it. I
totally get it. Totally get it. By the way, I
did a little quick search on the worldwide Googles yesterday,
ESPN and the CFP. As part of their agreement, five
weeks of CFP polling results go out ahead of time,

(01:09:29):
so they have to do five ranking shows, as you said,
to build an audience, so there will be no elimination
of We'll wait till the final day to announce the
brackets and you won't be surprised. I think it's good now.
Of course, this is collateral damage. Yes, that the ad
gets his feelings.

Speaker 21 (01:09:45):
Huh.

Speaker 2 (01:09:46):
We want good enough and I gotta call it Puest conference.

Speaker 5 (01:09:50):
But it's good.

Speaker 2 (01:09:51):
It's good for the that's We've We've been talking about
this every week and I've been telling you like, I
don't care. I'm gonna I'm gonna wake me up if
and when Texas is are in. But I know that
people get into it. You may content off of it.
We talk about it on this show. I've had a
very podcast. Yeah, it's it's interesting week to week, but
I'm not going to invest my life in it like
Pete Levaqua did.

Speaker 5 (01:10:09):
No, I'm more interesting than people this meltdown I'm trying to.
I mean, you know what, you don't.

Speaker 2 (01:10:14):
Get this melt down without these shows, That's right, I
mean this keep them.

Speaker 5 (01:10:19):
Oh my god, that's too bad. We were gonna have somebody.

Speaker 2 (01:10:21):
Pull a plug.

Speaker 5 (01:10:22):
We're gonna do the News of Noon with it.

Speaker 22 (01:10:23):
Damn.

Speaker 2 (01:10:24):
I think the engineer probably pulled the plug. All right,
we gotta get the gun feelings, got the power off?
What are the next segment here about on the gun feelings?
But let's go to Anthony on seven and Anthony, good
morning to you.

Speaker 22 (01:10:34):
Hey, good morning fellas. So, so I have a couple
of problems with the narrative that notre Dame's pushing here.
So his first thing was, I think that there should
be a clear cut standard or metrics that the committee
looks at. Well, there is, And to me, the top
eight teams were solidified. So you had you had four

(01:10:55):
teams or five teams vying for four spots. Well, uh,
James Madison and Tulane were always getting in because they
were conference champions. So now you have two spots for
three teams. Alabama was never getting punished for losing to Georgia.
They've already beat Georgia nasseence. So now you have two
teams for one spot, with identical records, identical strengths to

(01:11:19):
schedule with the head to head games. So I don't understand, like,
what's the complaint here, because to me, the committee got
the entire rankings perfectly based on the systems and the
metrics that they have in place. Now you can disagree
with the metrics, and that's a separate conversation, but based
on what the committee has in place right now, Notre

(01:11:41):
Dame was never getting into this playoffs.

Speaker 5 (01:11:45):
But the argument is an antony. I don't disagree with you.

Speaker 2 (01:11:47):
Their argument was we were given the impression we were
going to be in because of the rankings going in
and the fact that they didn't play a game, the
fact that Miami didn't play a game. They're going off
of what they saw the Tuesday before the Sunday really,
and they're saying, there's nothing we could have done to
change the way you saw us. There's nothing that Miami
could have done. So if we're going to go off

(01:12:08):
what you said before, I mean, help Ross think about this.

Speaker 5 (01:12:12):
You're I don't know, give me, give me an ounce.

Speaker 2 (01:12:16):
You are told that you're going to get a promotion
because your sales are higher than the guy behind you.
But the guy the last second gets the job because
he got one Salem, but he beat you head to head. Yeah,
I got it. I'm telling you it doesn't work. It
doesn't work. We're trying to we're trying to think of it.
We'll get the break. Yeah, But answer. My point is
that they kept looking and going we were always ahead.

Speaker 8 (01:12:36):
What thing?

Speaker 5 (01:12:37):
What things change? And I think that that's what their
main argument is.

Speaker 22 (01:12:41):
So my problem with that is is that James Madison
and Tulane were never in the top twelve.

Speaker 2 (01:12:46):
You had to slide them in.

Speaker 19 (01:12:48):
And so when when you have one spot left.

Speaker 22 (01:12:51):
And sure they Notre Dame may have been ahead of
Miami in the in the previous rankings, but now we
have one spot left in these final rankings, and we
have to compare two teams resumes that are pretty identical,
but they played each other. So to me, like, I
just don't feel like Notre Dame has an argument here.

Speaker 5 (01:13:13):
Yeah, thank you for the phone call, Anthony. I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (01:13:16):
And you can say, well, not for James Madison or
if it was for Tulane, Okay, then you got to
get rid of the automatic qualifers. If you don't, it
could have been an ACC championship team, which Notre Dame
would not have been.

Speaker 5 (01:13:29):
Right, just what I'm saying. You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (01:13:31):
You can blame Jamie if you want to Tulane, but
you still have to get five conferences. Under the current rules,
five conference champions get in. So it's kind of moot
that it's James Madison and Tulane. Quit your crying, get better.
It just quit ago, all right. Gut feelings are up next.
It is eleven forty four. Are you delaying gut feelings

(01:13:52):
because I got so many right. We're gonna find out
next here on Sports Talk Sevenn't that tummit? You'll they
got a gut healing. This is their gut feeling.

Speaker 5 (01:14:06):
On the Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 2 (01:14:08):
Shout out to burn Orange. Taking over the press conference
is necessary, appropriate and funny. Again, I don't do it
very often, but we have to sometimes to step in
when wine comes into play, and there was lots of wine.
Speaking of winingh'd you last week in your gut feelings?
I was not here last Tuesday, so I did not
partake in such you weren't, But we can check yours
from two weeks ago.

Speaker 5 (01:14:27):
I guess we can go ahead.

Speaker 2 (01:14:29):
Let's see Jake Myers is no longer an astro by
next week.

Speaker 5 (01:14:34):
That's wrong.

Speaker 9 (01:14:35):
Wrong.

Speaker 2 (01:14:36):
The club's standing strong. Now he'll be gone at some point.
You're gonna be right. Here's gonna be You would be early,
be early on.

Speaker 5 (01:14:42):
That you hadn't sounded.

Speaker 2 (01:14:45):
Oh well, he's gonna want to hit it for this
one too. Chief beat the Cowboys on Thanksga.

Speaker 5 (01:14:54):
Hit that one.

Speaker 2 (01:14:55):
You know what you can get another one. Cougar's beat
Baylor by ten plus.

Speaker 8 (01:15:01):
On that one.

Speaker 2 (01:15:01):
What was the final? I don't think they beat him
by ten plus. I think it was a one score game,
wasn't it? You tell me, mister Cooper was there? I
was busy?

Speaker 5 (01:15:08):
You weren't there?

Speaker 16 (01:15:09):
Why not?

Speaker 5 (01:15:09):
I was there? In spirit?

Speaker 13 (01:15:11):
Mmm?

Speaker 2 (01:15:11):
Hold on, I gotta get out of the top twenty
five tab because they're not what they're in the top
twenty five in the eight in the football poll.

Speaker 3 (01:15:18):
Yes they are are they?

Speaker 2 (01:15:19):
We must have got back and they weren't that weak.
You're welcome, go ahead and find it. You keep going.
Was that the big rivalry game? Was it the last
game of the years against Baylor?

Speaker 1 (01:15:28):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (01:15:29):
Yeah, hold up, I'm looking go ahead, I'm still looking.
Hold on, I gotta get back to the big twelve
thirty one twenty four. I was off by three points. Okay,
so I'm not a so good And yeah, go ahead
and hit the bump up and down again. John, dang you, Jonathan,
you got this one right. Jonathan Taylor runs for under
one hundred yards against the Texans. He was under one

(01:15:49):
hundred fair.

Speaker 5 (01:15:50):
Oh, thank you, thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:15:51):
And Verlander is an astro. It's TVD, that's but it
feels like it should have already happened by now. It
feels like they're gonna get that done. Yeah, I mean,
that's that's a very astis.

Speaker 21 (01:16:02):
Last week I said Georgia would cover the two and
a half versus Alabama easily, which was correct twenty eight
to seven.

Speaker 5 (01:16:12):
Final there, thank yourself and props.

Speaker 2 (01:16:14):
I said that Texans would pull off the.

Speaker 5 (01:16:17):
Upset Sunday night at Arrowhead as is correct. Give myself
a prop.

Speaker 2 (01:16:23):
And this is where Chris Gordy got mad at me
because he was sitting in a gut feelings. I said, Uh,
tell me what you think about this? One man, Lane
Kiffin leaves LSU in unfavorable circumstances within four years. I
disagree with you on that. You think in five years?
We already talked about this. Yeah, I think if you're Lane,
you can't be done in four years.

Speaker 5 (01:16:44):
You just can't.

Speaker 2 (01:16:46):
You're gonna ruin whatever legacy you've got left. Yeah, I'm
saying with it. He was at Ole Miss for seven
I think right, six? I think okay, six?

Speaker 5 (01:16:55):
Yeah, okay.

Speaker 2 (01:16:58):
He was out of USC my gut. He was out
of the USC within four years. Yeah, tells me he
stays longer than four. He was out of Tennessee in
one year. He was out of Florida Atlantic in two years.
He's a He's a carbon backer, that's for sure. Yeah,
six years at old, miss and okay, we'll see.

Speaker 5 (01:17:16):
By the way, did you.

Speaker 2 (01:17:17):
Notice anything about Beverlock was comment about the Bevaca bebylo say.

Speaker 5 (01:17:23):
Pete b PDB.

Speaker 2 (01:17:24):
So he wants the twenty point five rays, which is
going to happen. That's the money that you can spread
that that the school can directly pay the ass. Okay,
that's going to go up with inflation. He also brought
that up higher because of the fact that he must
not be getting the nil money that other people are getting.
You know what else I noticed he kept on mentioning
Marcus Freeman. You mean a future New York Giants head coach, That's.

Speaker 5 (01:17:48):
What I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (01:17:49):
Don't you think he's like, you know, I'm working with Marcus.
It's funny you say that up to his daughter is
always the best Marcus. You know, who should never leave us?

Speaker 5 (01:17:59):
Marcus?

Speaker 2 (01:17:59):
You know Notre Dame loves more than anything, Marcus. I
love Marcus. But it kind of he kept bringing him
up like out of nowhere. I'm glad you noticed it too, Jonathan.

Speaker 3 (01:18:10):
Yeah, he kept going when I thought he kept going,
and the like three more questions.

Speaker 2 (01:18:14):
About him when I was when I was holding Marcus
in bed, embracing and rubbing his head because he was
so obset Notre Dame that here at the University of
Marcus Freeman, I mean Notre Dame, we're thinking about naming
Marcus Freeman Stadium right in the middle of the campus.
A pretty funny hell you wanted to keep talking about
how close they were?

Speaker 5 (01:18:35):
Is nil troubles a Notre Dame.

Speaker 2 (01:18:38):
I don't know if he's worried about paying this the
kids and getting a larger share. Now he can do
that because he's got a separate television deal. He's got
money coming in that nobody else in the country has.
It goes directly to Notre Dame. Plus he shares on
a revenue of the ACC not named football. So, okay,
can I put this one way down. Notre Dame is

(01:19:00):
out of the ACC. They're going They're going to Jettis
of ACC. Okay, they're gonna let the twenty four year
old kid making twenty one thousand dollars a year at
ACC dot com affect the future of Notre Dame athletics.
And again he called a press conference to cry about
getting cyber bullied on at the ACC. I mean, okay,

(01:19:20):
I'm gonna go check right now. How many followers does
the at ACC have the.

Speaker 5 (01:19:26):
Mean tweets about me? Did you see the mean tweets?

Speaker 2 (01:19:30):
I mean, my god, this is unbelievable. ACC football. Yes,
ninety three thousand followers. Really, I mean that's that's low
for a conference for the schools. Come on, now, you're
really pissed off because ninety three thousand people saw your tweet.

Speaker 5 (01:19:47):
God, that is so funny.

Speaker 2 (01:19:50):
Okay, you're your gut feeling is not by the way, Uh,
Jonathan had the Hoosiers upset upsetting Ohio State Buckeyes.

Speaker 5 (01:19:57):
That is correct.

Speaker 2 (01:19:59):
Oh wait, put my the notre name is not going
to the SEC, not unless they just say f you
to the the NBC money Gordy said that the winner
of the Heisman would go to the Big Ten champ
So that would be Fernando m what is his last name, Mendoza. Yep, yeah,
we need a Fernando Mendoza winning the Heisman. That sounds great.

(01:20:20):
Are we gonna have a first round quarterback? Yes we are. Okay,
I can't remember. I was actually looking at a draft
board yesterday. Good for you. I don't know why I
didn't look at one. That's why I'll tell you why.
I was looking for longhorns and I always saw one.

Speaker 5 (01:20:37):
I mean the cougars.

Speaker 4 (01:20:38):
You see.

Speaker 5 (01:20:41):
Washington State Cougars got feelings.

Speaker 2 (01:20:47):
Uh, Rockets beat the Clippers by at least ten on Thursday. Okay,
they better Clipper. You went? When was the rest of
your thing? Notre Dame is out of the ACC I
don't know this year. No, No, no, within five years. Okay, Well,

(01:21:08):
I mean I think everybody's out without every conference ready
shakes because everybody's moving around. I do believe here's a
gut feeling. I do think you will hear rumors of
the Big Twelve. Now do I think the Big the
Notre Dame will scoff at that and say, you know what,
I'm choosing one set of problem for another set of problems.
That could be the case. I don't know, but I

(01:21:30):
can tell you that Notre Dame. If the Big Twelve
wants Notre Dame, they should give the Notre Dame everything
they want. Notre Dame would add some serious cache to
the Big Twelve conference.

Speaker 4 (01:21:39):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:21:40):
It was Oregon's Dante More who I saw in the
top ten on a board and PFF has for Nando
Mendoz in the top ten as well. Okay, okay, I
got that, oh Astro. They are signing people I've never
heard of before. I got to go back a gout
feeling I had. I had a gut feeling that either

(01:22:02):
Walker or Paradis is gonna get moved. These latest comments
from a Spata they're keeping Paradis. Well, I guess they
could still move Walker. But here's you have to pay against.
You're gonna send money that way, And I don't know
if Jim Crean's a big fan of that. He's not
a big fan. But when you send money, it doesn't
go against the threshold, and you can lower your threshold,
you know what. And maybe I'm backing off. Never mind

(01:22:24):
Christian Walker. Maybe he's gonna be the one. That's why
you got rid of all the utility guys. Although you
get that one guy from Atlanta who bats Paradis is
your utility guy. Bryce Matthew's gonna get some looks. You're
gonna have toesel two playing more second base. According to Spata,
I'm sticking. I'm gonna give you a rando. I don't
think this is gonna hit. Gut feeling. Bryce Matthews gets
traded Bryce Matthews. Yeah, okay, really just a that's just

(01:22:49):
a rando. If that one hits, I'm gonna be who
is excited but Dana Brown's first ever draft backs. I'm
saying it doesn't sound right. They could have been right,
but I'm just saying this is just that's that's that's
the segment in a nutshell, it's gut feeling. And then
you said something else that I missed. You got the
notre Dame. You said the Bryce Matthews. Oh, Rockets beat

(01:23:10):
the Clippers by Clippers by ten sure? Why?

Speaker 5 (01:23:13):
All right?

Speaker 3 (01:23:14):
And from you, Jonathan, Uh, you know what, Let's just
keep it simple. Chargers, even with the messing hammer, Herbert
just keeps a pummelet up on. Chargers beat the Chiefs.
We got a Chargers fan. I forgot we had Chargers.

Speaker 5 (01:23:32):
Jonathan.

Speaker 3 (01:23:32):
Here, it's okay, I keep it low key back here,
all right, I got.

Speaker 5 (01:23:35):
One for you.

Speaker 2 (01:23:37):
Montana State beats s f A by two touchdowns.

Speaker 4 (01:23:41):
You know what?

Speaker 3 (01:23:41):
He put the reverse from you right now?

Speaker 2 (01:23:45):
I got Montana State. I got the Bobcats beating the Lumberjacks.
I think we're favorite hold on you let me tell
you some you going from Nacadot just to where the
hell Montana is, They're gonna freeze your asses off there.
You can't play in that weather.

Speaker 3 (01:23:59):
It's called the neck.

Speaker 2 (01:24:08):
Where is what is it Mantana State? Let me just
find a Rando city in Montana? Would you say?

Speaker 5 (01:24:13):
Can I go? Butte?

Speaker 3 (01:24:15):
Let me go?

Speaker 2 (01:24:15):
Let me check the Butte forecast. This is going to
prove my point. And once my phone works here, okay,
here we go. Butte Montana forecast. This is for Saturday,
because I mean once, I'm just picking a Rando town.

Speaker 7 (01:24:27):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:24:28):
High temperature on Saturday will be forty two degrees eleven
percent chances right now, you can't you can't compete in
that two touchdowns go bobcats no or Cougar's whatever the
hell they are? All right? And that's the gut feelings
for this week. I didn't make any Oh please, I
don't know, give one how many rockets. Rockets play just

(01:24:52):
one Thursday? Oh they don't play that after that Monday
in Denver. Oh okay, well, reach epherd reach eperd twe
plus points is next game.

Speaker 3 (01:25:02):
I like that.

Speaker 6 (01:25:07):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (01:25:08):
And if he didn't start is that gonna make a
difference to you.

Speaker 2 (01:25:11):
CJ. Stroud three touchdowns this weekend. Oh, we didn't even
make a Texas prediction. What's the what is the current
line on the game Texans Arizona nine and a half?
Is that what I saw?

Speaker 22 (01:25:21):
True?

Speaker 5 (01:25:22):
Texan's getting some big respect? Is the Matt Thomas Show with.

Speaker 2 (01:25:27):
Ross all right, twelve oh seven. Remind me on Thursday
for I just don't get it because it really needs
some link.

Speaker 8 (01:25:40):
To this.

Speaker 2 (01:25:45):
Disney's link, Disney World, Disneyland. Okay, just remind Disney adults Thursday,
eleven thirty. Okay, just remind me. Let's get to the
news at dune. Is the athletic director at Notre Dame
still bitching? I don't think so. No, he turned it

(01:26:07):
off at he's calling people now. One of the reporters
should have hit him with sir, this is a Wendy's half.

Speaker 5 (01:26:14):
He was an a waterburger driver. He had a plenty
of timey wow.

Speaker 3 (01:26:18):
Woo French.

Speaker 2 (01:26:24):
I'm sorry. Everybody cooks it fresh. Get me out of
there in forty minutes, please, all right, I'm just gonna
lead the news with noon this because apparently it's happening.
Philip Rivers, who has not played in the NFL since
twenty twenty. A Hall of Fame finalist, correct, and I
think should be in five years.

Speaker 5 (01:26:43):
Yeah, he should be in for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:26:45):
Is signing to the Indianapolis Colts practice squad. According to
Adam Schefter, Daniel Jones is out for the season due
to his torn right achilles. Riley Leonard is dealing with
a knee injury. Philip Rivers, who is a literal grandfather,

(01:27:07):
is an emergency solution for the Indianapolis Colts. He tried
out and has now been signed to the practice squad,
could be elevated this weekend and play for the Colts.
He hasn't had played a snap since twenty twenty.

Speaker 5 (01:27:24):
He's forty four.

Speaker 2 (01:27:28):
I don't know if this is remarkable, embarrassing, or a
combination of both. I don't think it's embarrassing to who.
I mean, Look, Daniel Jones went down. Anthony Richardson is hurt,
Riley Leonard is hurt. This is crazy. You need to
tell me there isn't a Division one quarterback. We know

(01:27:48):
it's legs, a limber that could take a few snaps
that that it either got was in a training camp
or got released. You mean to tell me they're having
to go to a guy that has not taken a
snap in five years?

Speaker 5 (01:28:04):
Are Yeah, I'm intrigued. You don't want to see this.
It's gonna be a trade wreck.

Speaker 2 (01:28:10):
Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna be I want to find h Yeah,
we need colts. And who are they playing this weekend?

Speaker 5 (01:28:16):
Are they in?

Speaker 8 (01:28:17):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (01:28:17):
They in Seattle?

Speaker 2 (01:28:18):
This I mean let me look, Oh, they're gonna play
the Seahawks.

Speaker 5 (01:28:21):
Hold on, don't no, no, don't hold me to that.

Speaker 2 (01:28:22):
Don't help me.

Speaker 5 (01:28:23):
I know they got to play the Seahawks on the
road against that Seahawks.

Speaker 2 (01:28:26):
Yeah, on the road against that Hawks.

Speaker 5 (01:28:31):
Is the Seahawks? All right, listen to me, You got
the real twelfth Man.

Speaker 2 (01:28:36):
Hold on a second, and then you got We're gonna
have a hard tar with Channel eleven here real quick. Yes,
there are two three twenty five games, yes on channel
eleven this week that choose from green Bay at Denver,
Indianapolis at Seattle Channel eleven. Matter off, I'm gonna text
Jason Bristol right now, okay, please please please please put

(01:29:01):
Indianapolis at Seattle on, because if he's gonna get broken
in Philip Rivers, he's getting wheeled out of there.

Speaker 5 (01:29:10):
We will see it.

Speaker 2 (01:29:11):
We will see something we've never seen before in NFL.
This watch television. It is literally gonna need a spatul
little pick and mough man, that's gonna be mussive TV.
All right, I'm sorry, all right, Let's see what else

(01:29:34):
in the world of sports, Matthew. You have a Kyle
Schwarber back to the Phillies, finalizing a one hundred and
fifty million.

Speaker 5 (01:29:42):
Dollar five year deal.

Speaker 2 (01:29:44):
According to Jeff Passon, so Phillies not afraid. He is
thirty two years old. He hit fifty six home runs
this last year and I didn't realize this.

Speaker 5 (01:29:59):
I think it's.

Speaker 2 (01:29:59):
Something like only thirty or thirty two players have ever
hit fifty home runs. He's in that club. So congratulations
to Kyle Schwarber. Five years, one hundred and fifty million.
All right, We were gonna cut the news in Neton
short because Ray is sending me tweets. He's got to
get back to lunch as a ward. So he's got

(01:30:20):
he's on his lunch press. Are you serious? Ray in
Miami has got something he's got to say and we
can't interrupt his uh going back to work. So Ray
the flooris yours because we love you down in South Beach.

Speaker 8 (01:30:31):
What you got, thank you, thank you man. We love you.
I love you do He's loved the city he's in.
Seven to one three is my home.

Speaker 5 (01:30:39):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (01:30:40):
I have three.

Speaker 8 (01:30:44):
First of all, I have a good feeling that, well,
you already I told you you're gonna call game one
in the Western Conference Finals. And since I pulled that
rookie card the other night, I have a good filling
hundred rounds going to get eighteen games, eighteen game winner
and I feel really confident about that. And the third one,
I have a gut feeling that Larry and Stafford likes

(01:31:06):
the Floss's teeth with c J Straus Jockstraut because he
disagreed with Cole and I have to finally agree with
Cole on this one. This morning.

Speaker 2 (01:31:17):
The quarterback.

Speaker 8 (01:31:18):
I haven't seen anything either, Larry, if you're listening, I
haven't seen anything on offense. Just like Cole said, and
he said, what do you want him to do? Put
forty points? He has to do something. This guy was
negative twelve in the third quarter. Larry, I know you
saw that this guy was overthrow a wide open touchdown pass.

(01:31:38):
I don't know if he's scared. I just don't like
c J. Strauss game, and I'm gonna use Texans fan
since the beginning, Since since Bob mcnow wrote the check,
I've been a Texans fan and I don't believe in
his game. I don't like c J. Straus's game. It's
two weak. If we go to New England, Drake May
is gonna break the playdown, extend to play and beat

(01:32:01):
the Texans. CJ is gonna go off the iPad. First down,
do this, second down, do that? Oh you said third down? Okay,
let's punt it eight times in a row. He's going
off of the iPad. You have to go off the
schedule after what they tell you to do. But he
if it breaks down, forget the schedule, make or play.

(01:32:21):
And I don't see that in CJ. Stroud. I don't
care who call in after me. CJ. Stroud And then
he said he's one of the top five quarterbacks that
or when he's sitting on the couch. Dude, you're not
even in the top fifteen. If it wasn't for this defense,
the Texans would only win two games. You started off
h and three with a good defense, he's not. He's mid.

(01:32:44):
I'm just gonna say it right now. He's mid, and
I'm tired of people up in him like he's a
top five quarterback. He's not. He's in the top fifteen.
All right, and Garyan Spring you may call in or whatever.
I don't care. I'm telling you how I feel.

Speaker 5 (01:32:58):
All Right, there you go, thank you very much.

Speaker 8 (01:33:00):
I don't like his office, Matt, Matt. I don't like
his offense, Matt, I.

Speaker 2 (01:33:03):
Don't like the thing, right right, U right, hang on, ring, right, ring,
hang on. I don't like the offense period. Nobody likes
this offense. No one likes You're not by yourself. But
I could bring I could bring a reincarnation of Steve
Young back to this offense. It doesn't have enough weapons.
It doesn't The offensive line is not good enough. There
is no running game to speak of. It's not c J.

Speaker 5 (01:33:25):
Strouds.

Speaker 8 (01:33:26):
One more thing, one more thing, one more thing, one
more thing. Can you on February twenty eighth, when you
come plate it heat, can you dress like Calvin Murphy
so I can recognize you because I.

Speaker 2 (01:33:35):
Will be in a I'll be in a quarter zip
with khaki pants or black pants and either black shoes
or brown shoes, wearing my Rockets badge, and I'll be
the most handsome ball manual.

Speaker 5 (01:33:46):
See in that arena.

Speaker 2 (01:33:47):
It shines in the stadiums. That's enough from you. That
is enough from you. You've had your fun already Montana
State by twenty one. Now I've just upped it over
SFA twelve fifteen. It is The Matt Thomas Show with
Ross seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven ninety Today's edition.

Speaker 5 (01:34:07):
I believe or not? Does your ad bitch?

Speaker 4 (01:34:11):
No?

Speaker 5 (01:34:11):
Today?

Speaker 4 (01:34:12):
Believe it?

Speaker 2 (01:34:12):
Believe it. I gotta be honest with you. I thought,
my man, Ray, you were way too hard on CJ's stroud.
I'm sorry. I just did. And by the way, we're
not gonna do comparisons or quarterbacks until the offseason to
decide whether or not CJ is a top five, top ten,
top fifteen, top twenty.

Speaker 5 (01:34:32):
Who cares?

Speaker 8 (01:34:33):
Right now?

Speaker 5 (01:34:33):
I love you, Ray, I hope you're enjoyed your lunch.

Speaker 2 (01:34:36):
Yes, but come on now, it's he's the best option
and he's not even close. And teams would take him.
A lot of teams would take him. Not every team
would take him, but a lot of them would. He's
probably gonna get paid. He needs to play better. There
was a lot he was under a lot of duress.

(01:34:57):
Pressure rate was high the third quarters on him. This
offensive line, I mean, I don't pffs tomorrow. I know,
I thought the offensive line was terrible. Yet, yeah, it
was terrible yesterday on Sunday it was and it's it's
been better. But I thought dan Orlovsky's praise was a
little foe. It was a little little micro looking at things.

(01:35:19):
They still surrender way too much pressure. They have CJA
running for his life. CJ made three throws in particular
this week that were I don't the hell did that
pet ball get completed?

Speaker 10 (01:35:30):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (01:35:30):
They still commit way too many penalties, Uh, false starts
of the formations and especially.

Speaker 5 (01:35:35):
In the red zone too.

Speaker 2 (01:35:35):
How come they don't know the rules of football? How
many times is there some kind of illegal formation or
illegal shift?

Speaker 5 (01:35:41):
Yeah, I mean that's coaching now.

Speaker 2 (01:35:44):
I remember there are a lot of teams in the
NFL that have porous offensive lines with great quarterbacks. H
the number one man raising his hand as Joe Burrow, well,
he's raising his hand from the from a gurney Yes,
he's been getting hurt a lot. Yeah, he's he's I p.

Speaker 5 (01:36:00):
It is what it is.

Speaker 2 (01:36:02):
He's under duress a lot in a violent sport.

Speaker 5 (01:36:06):
Yeah, correct, So that makes him prona injury. It does.

Speaker 2 (01:36:09):
It really does. Football board of els. But uh no,
uh again. C Jason put this way his rookie year.
You got an A last year. You gotta be minus.
See see, okay, he's playing with be he's a B quarterback.
I see, you'll probably see right now how many good
games as he had the name miss threes? That doesn't

(01:36:32):
it goes into it and you miss part of another one.
I would say he missed the Bronco Yeah, Bronco's game,
and then miss three Rossie, I'm gonna give him a
oh the Baltimore game, four touchdowns, no picks.

Speaker 5 (01:36:45):
I'm giving him a B this year.

Speaker 2 (01:36:47):
So it's a B quarterback twenty one hundred yards twelve
TD's six picks. Now, the argument is this, and you
and I have had a little bit of conjecture about this.
I mean, I know where you're coming from, and I
understand it. Can you give a B quarterback sixty million
dollars a year?

Speaker 4 (01:37:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:37:07):
I guess the question is you're going to have to
do it. How are you also? Are you going to
manage your salary cap? You're gonna have issues. And happened
to the Chiefs. They paid Pat Mahomes, they paid Chris Jones,
they paid Travis Kelsey, and they didn't pay them in
their offensive line they had, Yeah, and then when that

(01:37:28):
when that average offensive line gets hurt, it becomes voloable.
This is how it's supposed to work that. This is
why it's so hard to be a dynasty in the NFL. Well,
not supposed to have every team when this is why
it's the best league in the most interesting league, because
everybody has a chance. But tell me the parody because
it's salary cap. But can we.

Speaker 5 (01:37:51):
Get mad at me?

Speaker 2 (01:37:52):
Let's put a rook Let's put a salary cap on
the quarterback spot. Let's at least give them some balance. Okay,
I mean, I know it's the most important position. It's
the most important position in major American sports. But the
dollar amount between that guy, meaning the quarterback, and the
next highest paid game is that different from the left
tackles and or edge rushers?

Speaker 5 (01:38:12):
How many million?

Speaker 4 (01:38:13):
Is? Uh?

Speaker 2 (01:38:14):
Did Mike's point making what forty I guess sixty to
forty is pretty er. That's what's Michael Parson's avy. Who's
the second most important player in a football team, and
that get it's always be the edge rusher in the
left tackles, whichever one you want to put them in.
So what is the average it's the quarterback, the guy
who protects a quarterback, and the guy who gets the quarterback.
That's all centered around the quarterback. That tells you how

(01:38:35):
important it is. Maybe to balance my argument a little bit,
give me the average amount of money a left tackle makes,
the average amount of money a linebacker, I mean a
edge rusher makes, And give me an average amount of
money a quarterback makes.

Speaker 5 (01:38:45):
And I think there's your way to describe. The quarterbacks
way more important than those two guys.

Speaker 2 (01:38:53):
But in the interest and gain, the players don't care,
and namely thirty two people don't care because the quarterbacks.
But in the interest of foster construction, like for instance,
I'll give you Let's give you a small example. I
don't know what Daniel hunter situation is, but the thought
of the Texans being able to keep Denil Hunter, Will
Anderson and c. J.

Speaker 5 (01:39:11):
Stroud is zero percent. That's how it should be.

Speaker 15 (01:39:16):
Well.

Speaker 3 (01:39:16):
See, I like the same of the things.

Speaker 2 (01:39:18):
I want to reward teams that make good decisions. Well,
you you got to continue to make good decisions under
the hard cap. I will want to figure something out.
I want CJ. Stroud to be fairly compensated for what
he has done. He's not worth sixty million dollars a year.
You get five years of Will Anderson. That's a good reward.
But if I draft and I've had him for five years.

(01:39:41):
But the number one reason why I'm getting hurt by
it is because I had picked the same guys in
the same drafts. I should be rewarded for having.

Speaker 5 (01:39:46):
To a first round find him.

Speaker 2 (01:39:48):
You can find well they traded. They traded away a
first round for that pick. Those two picks cost you
three first round picks. I just I, in theory, don't
want to pay a quarterback just because that's what the
position gets. You should pay the quarterback crazy amounts of
money if he does crazy things. And CJ. Stratta is

(01:40:09):
in a nice NFL career it has been by far
no means worth a sixty million dollar yr contract, But
just to pay because he happens to be the signal caller,
pay him for what he's worried. If he's the highest
paid player on your team, I get it. But to
put sixty million behind the cat, that's gonna really hamper
things now here we are now if you win Super Bowl,
no one's gonna care.

Speaker 5 (01:40:27):
We're putting the cartwell before the horse on this.

Speaker 2 (01:40:29):
Dak Prescott's making sixty a year, Joe Burrow fifty five,
Josh Allen fifty five, Jordan Love fifty five, Trevor Lawrence
fifty five.

Speaker 5 (01:40:39):
That's painful for people to hear.

Speaker 2 (01:40:41):
Ed Dressers Parsons forty six and a half, Aiden Hutchinson
forty five, TJ.

Speaker 5 (01:40:46):
Watt forty one.

Speaker 2 (01:40:47):
Miles, you're talking about forty fifteen million dollar different. Daniel
Hunter's next thirty five then is a pretty big drop off. Hey,
I'm telling you, Texas face about fifteen million dollars more
a year. Do not go buy a dan Neil Hunter Jersey.
Don't become mama. Don't raise your baby to come left tackles.

Speaker 5 (01:41:02):
How bad?

Speaker 2 (01:41:03):
Uh Rashawn Slater twenty eight and a half, making the
most worst twenty eight, Trent Williams twenty eight. Darrisol's really good.
He's making twenty six so council twenty five. So if
you're big and strong, Oh yeah, I mean the let
me tells is not gonna be QB.

Speaker 5 (01:41:19):
I mean, gotta give it a try, at least.

Speaker 2 (01:41:22):
On the phone's next twelve twenty nine on Sports Talk
seven ninety seven one three two, one two five seven
on the NFL RE want it one twenty believe or
not one fifty. We got a lot to get to
between now and two o'clock. Plus we're gonna get some
more from Joe A. Spota from the winter meetings in
Los It's in Orlando usually last Vega Orlando. It's fine,
Well it's not great. Good hotels, mid food, lots of music, parks,

(01:41:45):
an adult Orlando.

Speaker 5 (01:41:46):
Yeh, never been? You've been to Orlando?

Speaker 16 (01:41:48):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:41:48):
Actually I was three years old. We went to my
parents sake us in the Disney World.

Speaker 5 (01:41:51):
He changed funds in Orlando.

Speaker 2 (01:41:53):
Okay, that doesn't count. To pick up a bunch of
children with Mickey mouse hats. On twelve thirty Sports Talk
seven ninety Channel eleven. We want the Colts Seahawks this week.
We do not want the Packers Broncos. I think gonna work.

Speaker 5 (01:42:08):
No, no, I mean, what are we getting what's in
the guide?

Speaker 2 (01:42:12):
Uh it doesn't say yet. Okay, can we check that?
Can we check our TV here to or we have
a Tulsa station.

Speaker 5 (01:42:18):
Oh yeah, we're we're in Oklahoma according to this thing.

Speaker 2 (01:42:25):
Yeah, we need it. Please, I said, please, K show you.
We want Colts and Seahawks this week. Hashtag Rivers No
Brent Packers, Broncos. That's it for.

Speaker 5 (01:42:33):
We don't know the river is gonna play.

Speaker 2 (01:42:34):
I don't care. I want the Colts. Okay, doesn't it
mean more to the division race anyway?

Speaker 5 (01:42:38):
I guess So.

Speaker 2 (01:42:38):
Now the Texans, now Channel eleven did the smart thing
last week. They gave us Indianapolis Jacksonville. The main game
was the Pittsburgh UH Baltimore game, but they gave us
Colts Jaguars. So there's there's something in the programming office that.

Speaker 5 (01:42:51):
Channel lemonos that are doing mm hmm.

Speaker 2 (01:42:54):
So let's go two for two. If not, well, you know,
I'll be red zone. I'll be red zone actually reads
what I'm gonna be on a plane Sunday.

Speaker 5 (01:43:02):
Okay, I won't be going to figure that out. Good
luck with that. Wishing you the best.

Speaker 2 (01:43:06):
This will be the longest road trip I've ever been
on in the ten years to call in the games.
Oh okay, I leave Sunday and back on the twenty sixth.
All right, you mean take care of your plants or anything,
everything good, taking care of it home?

Speaker 5 (01:43:19):
What are you asking for? What the things are being
taken care of it home?

Speaker 19 (01:43:23):
You know?

Speaker 5 (01:43:24):
Yes they are. I was saying, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:43:26):
You need to plants watered yesterday, put the lights on
specially yesterday. Pick up a package we're taking. Oh I
could use your help on that. We're only getting but
twenty three a Ramazon rhyme packages per day. You need
to do a Ramazon audit. You know what we have
audit myself. Let me tell you something ross and say,
is this I don't disagree with you. First of all,
it's Christmas. It's a holiday gift this season, so huh.

(01:43:47):
You can't ever buy enough gifts. Secondly, I would have
to say if you took ten married men that lived
in middle class, upper middle class are rich. No matter
whatever the demographic is, we all have the same complaints.

Speaker 5 (01:44:01):
Every day we get home.

Speaker 2 (01:44:01):
There's four Amazon packages in our house. Okay, well, gro
grow some nuts, let's go. But you know what, though,
in fairness, we ramazon paper towels, toilet paper, dish washing
tablet we we ramazon everything. Okay, so we're gonna get
more than the average person is how many dish towels
are running through.

Speaker 4 (01:44:23):
Everything?

Speaker 7 (01:44:24):
Okay?

Speaker 5 (01:44:24):
Over there we clean a lot.

Speaker 2 (01:44:28):
How often does the maid come over every Friday?

Speaker 5 (01:44:34):
You know what?

Speaker 2 (01:44:35):
I start lying more. I should have said what made
I don't do it too? I mean I ordered from
Ramazon too much too.

Speaker 5 (01:44:44):
I was checking. I was actually checking, running through my
orders like this week.

Speaker 2 (01:44:46):
I was like, that's probably didn't need batteries, snacks, underwear.

Speaker 5 (01:44:52):
We we don't literally everything.

Speaker 2 (01:44:54):
It's you know, poor rate Rereads just really mad at
us because we don't buy that stuff in there groceries.
Oh Jeff bezos, they keep growing doing well. Stunner on
seven out of your twelve thirty six, Donna, how the
hell are you well?

Speaker 10 (01:45:09):
So man, I was trying to catch you on Friday,
but you know, Heyah had a lot of stuff going on.
But hey, man, man, I'm upset with this. Uh his
college football playoff bracket? Man, it was you know, they
led us astray last year, saying the top twelve teams

(01:45:31):
was gonna be in it. But they didn't say about
the smaller schools. You know, I think they should add
that in, like, hey, like how the college basketball dude, Hey,
they got their all little groups that win and get in.
We already count for them.

Speaker 4 (01:45:50):
But it was a.

Speaker 10 (01:45:54):
It was I think they really led the league straight
this year.

Speaker 2 (01:46:00):
They follow the rules. There was nothing they didn't. They
didn't circlement the rules, they didn't create new guidelines. The
top five conference champions get in, and that's what did it.
And when they're five that are in, it bumps out,
it bumps out to it bumps out teams that are
at large. It just does. Now, if you want to

(01:46:21):
get rid of the conference automatic qualifiers and just say
the big best twelve teams regardless of conference, whether you
win a championship or not, you could do that and
maybe that comes into play, but they absolutely have to
put five conference champions in there. That's that is in
the rules. They didn't create this for just twenty twenty five.

Speaker 10 (01:46:40):
Yeah, I agree with that, But what I was saying
was they should have at least maybe clear that, hey, look,
the smaller schools need a spot. Okay, let's give them
a spot, just like the Just like I said, the
college basketball. Hey, them them.

Speaker 8 (01:46:58):
All the schools.

Speaker 10 (01:46:59):
No, they gotta win the tournament because they get in.

Speaker 23 (01:47:01):
Then the biggest school is low there.

Speaker 19 (01:47:04):
But non.

Speaker 10 (01:47:05):
They didn't make that clear enough. And they By the way,
if you want to find Matt out there, hey, just
look for that eye candy next to a Mike and
you'll find Matt.

Speaker 5 (01:47:16):
Who's the eye candy?

Speaker 23 (01:47:18):
Whoever you find?

Speaker 10 (01:47:19):
Every time I see you on SEEV, I'll see you
next to Mike.

Speaker 5 (01:47:25):
You dirty dog. Thank you, Sonna.

Speaker 2 (01:47:28):
It is true that I have I do work with
attractive people on television. That's that's television. Yes, radio, we
don't have the requirement.

Speaker 4 (01:47:36):
No, we do not.

Speaker 5 (01:47:38):
Thus I work with you. Oh sorry, you're a handsome
man in itself. Thank you.

Speaker 2 (01:47:43):
The girls do like your hair so ungodly. Reason very
confused by that.

Speaker 5 (01:47:50):
I got no comment.

Speaker 2 (01:47:51):
You shouldn't let me do the commenting for you. Yeah,
uh yeah, I'm not gonna comment on the people I
work with, except they're beautiful and we.

Speaker 5 (01:48:01):
Appreciate all of them. Yes, happy to be here every day.
Ten to two.

Speaker 2 (01:48:07):
Go team seven ninety. We are team seven ninety. We
are we are the backbone of seven ninety. They would
never get rid of us. That's not true, James on
seven ninety James, what do you have?

Speaker 23 (01:48:19):
Yeah, getting the coach draft Ellinger about three or four
years ago, the Texas quarterback he never could pay.

Speaker 5 (01:48:25):
He was like a six round pick.

Speaker 2 (01:48:27):
I think he's with the Broncos.

Speaker 5 (01:48:32):
The Broncos. Who Ellinger?

Speaker 4 (01:48:34):
Yeah, he's.

Speaker 23 (01:48:38):
Yours?

Speaker 7 (01:48:39):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (01:48:42):
Yours with the Dolphins?

Speaker 1 (01:48:44):
He was.

Speaker 5 (01:48:45):
Wasn't he a seventh round pick? Was he not?

Speaker 4 (01:48:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:48:47):
Okay?

Speaker 23 (01:48:48):
Yeah, Well I about Ellinger? Well you know that as
bad as the coach team quarterbacks U about he would
make it easily.

Speaker 5 (01:48:52):
But he's on the Broncos this year.

Speaker 23 (01:48:56):
Okay, all right, I just kind of wonder what happened
to him. That's all I really got. All Right, Thanks goes.

Speaker 5 (01:49:02):
James. James.

Speaker 2 (01:49:02):
Come on, that's on a phone call for a radio
show that's googling.

Speaker 5 (01:49:09):
He's needling Longhorn quarterbacks.

Speaker 4 (01:49:11):
Matt.

Speaker 5 (01:49:11):
You got to pick up the subtext here.

Speaker 2 (01:49:13):
Oh, I wasn't really paying much attention, by the way,
getting work from a couple of people.

Speaker 5 (01:49:18):
You got to learn James's shtick.

Speaker 2 (01:49:19):
He hates the Longhorns, and so he brought up two
long horn quarterbacks that aren't doing well in the NFL. Oh,
come on, I'm on, Maddie, let's go get out. I mean,
I'll be honest. I usually tune out of James calls. Okay,
by the way, I'm getting some good news that maybe
Channel eleven is going to have the text the cult schema. Okay,
because again they're smart. Channel eleven, you're smart. Now, some

(01:49:40):
of the things you've done aren't very bright, but most
things you've done it pretty good. Here, I'm look at me,
fast forward all the way to my store. I'm obsessed
with this right now because I want to make sure
that's the right.

Speaker 5 (01:49:49):
Actually, I donna be on a plane. What doesn't matter
to me. Yeah, you're really getting fixated. Yeah, you'll be fine.

Speaker 2 (01:49:53):
Don't you have Direct, the Direct Sunday ticket or whatever.

Speaker 5 (01:49:56):
No, I've got I've got Red Zone. Oh and you
know Run Day Rickett. No, I don't have Runday.

Speaker 2 (01:50:02):
Rickett Kennaugh FOD because I'm doing Ramazons for years. No,
I used to have it in the older, but I wasn't.
I'm not gonna get Boom Boo TV because that that's
just a waste of time. So I'm going to Denver.
I'm not gonna be able to see the Indianapol Saal
game was I'll be landing in Denver, and then we
put the Denver.

Speaker 5 (01:50:16):
Game on the nerve of those people. You're gonna be fine. Yeah,
catch the extended highlights.

Speaker 8 (01:50:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:50:25):
And plus the Texans will have disposed of the Cardinals
by at least ten so that will hopefully some Monday,
I'm gone the show from never We're not gonna have
a Jacoby Brissette is a Texans certified Texans killer. Somebody
said that he's beat him three times, but like three
different franchises. I think, how does Jacoby present we have
three NFL wins period. He's not that bad man. He
really isn't that bad. He's a good backup. He's a

(01:50:47):
he's a top tier back. Let me give you this
one in their prime Jacoby Brissette or Tyrod Taylor, Jacoby Brissette,
Jacoby Brissett or Keenum in this prime Jacoby Brissett, I
don't know, or Chase Chase Daniel, Chase Daniel hardly started
a game, umbert Coby Brissett. Or here's a tougher one,

(01:51:07):
Garner Minshew.

Speaker 5 (01:51:09):
That is a tough one. That's a knockdown, drag out
battle right there.

Speaker 2 (01:51:12):
There is not another radio show in this market, but
it's giving you backup football quarterback. Talking like the Haggler,
hearns of backup quarterback matchups. I'm gonna go with the guy.
I'm gonna go with Goe because he's still on Cobbett
or Kirk Cousins. Cousins, that's true, he doesn't have been
back up that long. Is there anything else I could
possibly throw at you in the next sixty seconds?

Speaker 5 (01:51:31):
I don't know. Davis Mills, the Mills.

Speaker 2 (01:51:34):
Colby Brissett, or Davis Mills. That is a quality. Davis
Mills all day. He's a future Hall of Famer. According
to some, will you please tweet out what you didn't
do it out last week? I meant because I want
to see the hate coming here.

Speaker 5 (01:51:50):
We do it now. Is it too late? It's too late? No,
it would It would feel forced too late.

Speaker 4 (01:51:55):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:51:56):
All my tweets are forced clearly. But if you do
it at Sunday twelve thirty, it'll come across the organic. Okay,
kayl A little secret here. He's gonna tweet out something

Good afternoon to.

Speaker 24 (01:53:54):
You, Good afternoon to you. I am thrilled about the
Texas Bowl. It local and LS is not that far away.
I think we'll have a good crowd. Now we're waiting
for the price of the tickets. On Wednesday, has tickets
for a thousand dollars? Are they're buying?

Speaker 2 (01:54:11):
I think the average ticket to get in if you
go through the stadiums like I think it's one fifty somewhere.

Speaker 4 (01:54:17):
In that range.

Speaker 24 (01:54:19):
Yeah, well, we're going to buy the tickets regardless, because
we went to the Peach Bowl and that wasn't cheap
buying tickets. Here is just nothing to me dropping the bucket.
But anyway, did you make a comment last week about
Cougar's not getting the Texas Bowl for any reason? Did
you make that?

Speaker 2 (01:54:35):
I didn't think they were going to go to the
Texas Bowl. I didn't guarantee it, but from what my
my well placed sources told me, it was not how
do I put this delicately, I don't think it was
the first choice of either the Texas Bowl or the
University of Houston.

Speaker 5 (01:54:55):
And let's put it that way.

Speaker 24 (01:54:58):
Oh okay, Well, my husband found it and I thought,
oh wow, I just couldn't believe it. So more power
to the Cougars. Great season, and I understand we have
a five star recruit.

Speaker 25 (01:55:12):
Yep, he's going to be a good one, I hope.
So so yeah, I don't vision him playing for a string,
but WIG meant, if he stays around, should be playing
in the first string.

Speaker 24 (01:55:24):
Don't you think.

Speaker 5 (01:55:24):
I think, Willie, And thank you for the phone call.

Speaker 2 (01:55:27):
It's gonna be very interesting to see how that plays out,
because you are paying him good money and he is
the number one dual threat quarterback in the country and
it's coming from the Spring School of Sports. Witchcraft and wizardry,
I think. And by the way, we've hired their coach.
Really stay stay with me on this, Stay with me

(01:55:49):
on this. There is a Kevin Bacon six degrees mmm mm.
The coach of the quarterback m name Michael Bishop. Michael
Bishop started his junior college career. I believe it blend
where the coach of that team was Willie Fritz. So

(01:56:12):
Willie and uh Michael had a relationship, and relationships tend
to grow and manifest, and the gas lit. This poor
young man gas anything. He can't wait. Did you see
his signing day? U h gear everywhere loves the place.
With the enrollment of about fifty six people, they're all

(01:56:33):
football play being is it's not out of the ordinary
truth be totally told. This happens a lot. Yes, but
Michael Bishop, the coach comes with the player. But Michael
Bishop obviously loves Willie.

Speaker 5 (01:56:46):
What's his role on the staff? I don't know. I
just saw a photo of him on Twitter.

Speaker 2 (01:56:49):
Lileh okay, I don't I'm an assuming quarterback assistant. Getting
a good recruit is a good way to get yourself
into a college staff.

Speaker 5 (01:56:56):
It happens, happens all the time. All the time.

Speaker 2 (01:56:58):
All right, so he makes this this is all becoming
a clear picture for me. I don't care how cool
your picture is. I'm on muddy it up for you.
You want to go to a tier one school, he said,
only one place. I want to go to, you of H.
And again, there were very few schools at the jump
that told mister Henderson we want you to a quarterback.
A lot of people wanted to turn him into a
wide receiver and he didn't want to do that.

Speaker 5 (01:57:19):
Willie says, you come to you, of H You'll be
our quarterback. Boom done.

Speaker 2 (01:57:23):
Now, as far as the ball game is concerned, I
really really believe in my heart that Willy wanted to
take his kids on the road somewhere, get to get
the true Bold experience. You won't obviously get that being Houston.
You get a little staycation. Well I think they're gonna
do it that way. Yeah, you stay downtown down you know,
don't get the budget. Go to a nice restaurant downtown. Yeah,

(01:57:44):
hit the Mammarium, Get on the Ferris wheel. I don't
want my offensive lineman on the Ferris horse and carriage.
Ride around Discovery Green. Act like you're in a different town.
We'll stay cation with only get a nice weekend with
your wife in town, go to Phoenician and get some
fancy olives. Yeah, exactly, They're just you can staycation in Houston.
It's fine for four days, five days. Say, there's only

(01:58:05):
so much to do with the Georgia R. Brown So
and that's not a And that's also not atypical of
schools that are in the city, like, for instance, SMU
doesn't want to go to the Dallas Bowl because they
want to get away for a little while. I mean,
that's the kids that do want to they want to
go somewhere else. But the reality was, uh, there were
some big twelve schools about out and there was a

(01:58:29):
lukewarm interest from a couple other bowls about Houston word
and concerns about travel numbers.

Speaker 5 (01:58:35):
So it just kind of gelled properly.

Speaker 2 (01:58:37):
And the reality is LSU Houston not only sets you
up to have a good Bowl game with lots of
people in it, and my guess there'll be maybe one
or two thousand LSU fans there is it also gives
you a nice precursor for what twenty twenty seven will
be when the two teams meet an energy stadium, open
up the college as a nice dress rehearsal. This game
doesn't matter. Nobody cares half empty stadium, nobody half emp'd

(01:59:00):
be full full of cougar full what full of cougars?
Let's go coogs. Here we go seven, one three, go
cou say, Willie, wait for the secondary market around kickoff.

Speaker 5 (01:59:07):
You'd be all right. You can find a pair, Willy.

Speaker 2 (01:59:10):
You better get there quick because it's gonna be inundated
with nothing but red and white.

Speaker 5 (01:59:14):
And then maybe maybe a.

Speaker 2 (01:59:17):
Smackling. Is that a word?

Speaker 5 (01:59:18):
Smattering? Smattering? We'll go a smattering.

Speaker 2 (01:59:23):
You've had some doozies, I know, a smackering. That's why
I said it didn't sound right. That's why I didn't go good.
A smattering of LSU fans sprinkled it'll be sprinkled in
throughout the crowd, largely U of h though dominant. Let's
go to the top of the hour. We'll talk to Kyle.
Open up the one o'clock hour. We're gonna have a
break on time once for today. No, we did it
at eleven, that's true. We didn't do it at twelve, though,

(01:59:45):
That's okay. Seven one three two one two get the

Seven one three two one two five seven And we
owe you some Joe a spot of audio. We owe

right name. We have one of our producers do it, okay,
I mean the one that's not working on our show.

(02:00:06):
Get a long team. We've got a lot of team.
Get our research assistant. Here's the only cut we made.
I'm gonna keep using. This kind of fits a cry
baby well paraphrase.

Speaker 5 (02:00:22):
That was a paraphrasing. They're they're gonna leave the acc
aren't there? Are they that heard over that? I think
you should have put your gut feeling within two years.

Speaker 22 (02:00:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:00:31):
I couldn't do that because I think the logistically there
could be some issues. But he's gonna remember your gut
feeling two years later.

Speaker 5 (02:00:36):
I hope they do.

two of the press conference, where he's answering every question
about how much he loves the head coach.

Speaker 5 (02:01:10):
Of the ten, Marcus Freeman at the Notre Dame.

Speaker 2 (02:01:13):
He's tall, dreaming, he's a Rico Sabe of college football. Apparently, yes,
as well, eats well, deserves more money.

Speaker 5 (02:01:24):
Well, we'll see.

Speaker 2 (02:01:25):
Was that as much about buttering up to Freeman that
it was about complaining about the Atlantic Coast Conference or
the NFL head coaching salaries relative to the top college guys.
Aren't Isn't everybody's making like thirteen million a year and stuff?

Speaker 7 (02:01:40):
Now?

Speaker 2 (02:01:41):
Oh yeah, the NFL still pays better, does it? But
it's college is getting close? Okay, Kirby Smart's making thirteen million.

Speaker 5 (02:01:50):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:01:50):
NFL ones aren't released, but some people dig them up. Yes,
the agents that want it to be released making released. Oh,
any reads make it twenty No way for making bonehead
fourth town decisions. That was a good fourth down decision.
It was not aod universal We can say it was
the wrong one, but boneheaded is incorrect. How about a
massive mistake. I'll go with that, and I'm I'm not falling.

(02:02:14):
Sean Payton's making eighteen Harball, John Harball, seventeen.

Speaker 5 (02:02:17):
What do you think?

Speaker 4 (02:02:18):
What do you think is?

Speaker 5 (02:02:18):
What's de Miko making? Any idea?

Speaker 2 (02:02:20):
He's not listed only the top ten is listed on
this Sportico. I want to say that Dimico got a
pretty good chunk of change because wasn't he being courted
by the Denver Broncos too at the same exact same
time and when you can't.

Speaker 5 (02:02:32):
Get into it and you get a bidding war, that helps.

Speaker 2 (02:02:34):
He's not listed at this top ten from this sporticle
article that I just pulled up. At winter meetings continue
with the Astros. I mean, not that we should expect
a lot out of it, but we're seeing other teams
making moves. Edwin Diaz going for the Mets to the Dodgers.
This front Front Office Sports article has Demiko Ryan's fifteenth

(02:02:57):
at eight million a year. It's good money. Hmmm, Lois
this can't be right. Mike McDaniel three and a half million.

Speaker 5 (02:03:09):
Why would you question that? That seems extremely low?

Speaker 2 (02:03:13):
Have you met Mike McDaniel, Yes, I have he wears
the same out grade arts of mine. They've won they
won five games in a row. Yeah, but he didn't
sign that contract making win winning five games.

Speaker 8 (02:03:21):
In a row.

Speaker 2 (02:03:22):
He was a hot name coming from the Shanahan Tree
as an offensive mind. Well, he left his library shift
to beg an NFL head coach.

Speaker 5 (02:03:30):
He's doing all right. They've won how many games in
a row?

Speaker 8 (02:03:33):
Now?

Speaker 5 (02:03:33):
Three and a half million?

Speaker 2 (02:03:34):
Miami.

Speaker 5 (02:03:35):
That isn't gonna They have won four in a row.

Speaker 2 (02:03:36):
They're six and seven and they're still eligible for the
playoffs as of the Bengals. Surprise, they're not making it.
But no, Colt's making the playoffs?

Speaker 5 (02:03:44):
Yes or no?

Speaker 16 (02:03:44):
No?

Speaker 4 (02:03:45):
Right?

Speaker 5 (02:03:45):
No?

Speaker 2 (02:03:46):
Are we bumping Indianapolis and Kansas City out Miami's remaining
schedule Steelers, Bengals, Buccaneers, Patriots and two and two?

Speaker 5 (02:03:54):
They'll finish eight nine?

Speaker 2 (02:03:56):
So do we do we?

Speaker 5 (02:03:57):
Right now?

Speaker 2 (02:03:58):
Have and we're going on the phones in just second
here do we have our seven teams locked in?

Speaker 24 (02:04:02):
Now?

Speaker 11 (02:04:03):
No?

Speaker 5 (02:04:04):
In the NFL?

Speaker 2 (02:04:04):
No, Let's take a look at AFC, I mean both,
Let's look at the AFC first.

Speaker 5 (02:04:10):
Well, okay, I'm gonna put this way. If we're knocking
Indy out.

Speaker 2 (02:04:14):
Yeah, the seventh in we could take Baltimore into playing
with pittsburghause Pittsburgh Golan is a one game lead. But
if we're down on KC and we're down on Miami
and we're down in Innnapolis, could both Baltimore and Pittsburgh get
into the playoffs. I mean it's a possibility, that's not crazy. Yeah,
we'll see probably the seven that are in now or

(02:04:35):
the seven that are in. With the Texans being seventh,
they need, they want some games. I do not want
them to be the seventh seed that would be at
New England probably on a three thirty. Oh you know
what they would do? Oh no, no, no, no, here's
the thing. I would lose that bet, but I'd be
okay with it. You know why I love snow and
cold games. They'll put that bad boy in. It's Saturday
night at eight o'clock at night. No, our bet is

(02:04:56):
Saturday three thirty. You have the field. Oh I have
the field? Yes, so I would win. Yes, not that
when I win the bet. You're not winning that bet.
It's gonna be Jaguars Texans. No, no, no, if it's
three six, yes, hold on, what did we even bet?

Speaker 5 (02:05:16):
Let me.

Speaker 2 (02:05:16):
Look, if it's Texans Jacksonville's three six yeah, or Saturday
three Saturday, three thirty Saturday, that's a that's a done deal.
Patriots Texans might be there too. Nope, they're going to
put the Patriots ball.

Speaker 5 (02:05:34):
Are you kidding?

Speaker 2 (02:05:35):
A huge television market. They're putting it in prime time.

Speaker 5 (02:05:37):
At the other match.

Speaker 2 (02:05:38):
Let's say the other match, Well, Jaguars Bills, Oh, hell,
Dealers Chargers could be three.

Speaker 5 (02:05:44):
You know what you might win?

Speaker 24 (02:05:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:05:47):
I mean the only way the Texans three thirty Saturday
is if it's they're playing jackson I'm checking the file
to see what we bet. This is why we keep
a file. It's way we make too many bets. That's
our number one problem. I don't have anything on the line.
I didn't write anyth I believe he was a large
back of chips I did. We didn't write anything. I

(02:06:07):
think it's large bag. Other bets we have pending. Ross
has for a Deli lunch. Texans over seven and a
half wins.

Speaker 5 (02:06:13):
That's a dub.

Speaker 2 (02:06:15):
Delly lunch. Delly lunch coming my way. Let's go hibachi
on Kyle Tucker. We have a drive through lunch on
Jordan Alvarez ever playing one hundred and thirty games. Bet
is in. The bet is over at twenty thirty six.
I feel good about that, and we have a gentleman's bet,

(02:06:36):
nothing on it from for five and a half years.

Speaker 5 (02:06:39):
Aav Ah, I'm feeling good for you there. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:06:46):
I mean his name is being brought up way more
than I'm sorry, five under over five and a half years, No,
aav I have over five and a half. See that
was before he that was before he hit his picture
in the gut. But he's been spending the winner meetings
and talking to team saying, hey, that's not.

Speaker 4 (02:07:03):
Me, bro.

Speaker 2 (02:07:05):
We made this bet before he crossed up his catcher
and lost his mind five times in a row. This
bs all right in twenty twenty six, less betting, No
more betting. No, it's feeling like we're we took a
picture of these when you and I took the hot
the hot pop bit on Albrez is playing one hundred
and thirty games next year. Let's go by way. We
need to make a bet on the Sion Williamson seventy

(02:07:27):
games or less, because I would have that one one
one not playing against seventy games this year.

Speaker 5 (02:07:32):
I'm not counting eighty third game. Sorry, you don't get it.

Speaker 7 (02:07:35):
No, you don't.

Speaker 2 (02:07:35):
He's played seventy You don't get it when an eighty
three game schedule, I'm sorry eighty two. He's only like
twenty four years old, got a long time. But the
NBA ecosystem as guys don't play every night, save yourself
with the playoffs, especially for him. Rings rings, rings, ring culture,
ring culture. We want guys ready to go for the
rings or in his case, Jamaican vacation. You think he's

(02:08:00):
in New Orleans where he gets traded. You can win
with Zion Wimson, he's a great player. You can't win
with Ion Williamson. Can't. You cannot?

Speaker 5 (02:08:08):
Why not?

Speaker 2 (02:08:08):
Doesn't play enf Okay, Now, I mean I'm serious. I
mean I'm serious as a heart attack. I can't my alpha,
my dog can't play forty eight games a year.

Speaker 5 (02:08:17):
Sorry.

Speaker 2 (02:08:18):
Anthony Davis did that for a while. Chris Paul was
hurt every year. You could win with him. Well, you
don't win championships with them. Anthony Davis won a championship
he had Lebron with him. Yeah, but you won a
championship with him. He Lebron was so the off on
that team. Okay, played eighty amazing, amazing, also didn't have
to travel. I'm saying then didn't didn't have Steven. I'm

(02:08:41):
saying I'm gonna win Kyle on seven on a hilloy
some apple pie with Sally Brown.

Speaker 20 (02:08:47):
Hello, Kyle, get afternoon, you all. Thanks for taking my car. Sure,
I just wanted to see what y'all's opinion was on
the college football playoff bracket. And I just want to
preface I went to Baylor, so I have no stake
or bias in this, but just looking at all the
controversy with teams getting knocked out and Tulane and James

(02:09:08):
Madison getting the eleven and twelve.

Speaker 5 (02:09:10):
Spot, I'm just curious.

Speaker 20 (02:09:12):
I know that the top conference champions get those spots,
but I'm curious why it is that way, and why
we wouldn't want it to be as competitive as possible
with teams, you know, with the top twelve teams just
from the regular season making it into that. I guess

(02:09:35):
I just want to see what y'all's opinion was on that.

Speaker 2 (02:09:36):
I think I don't know exactly what it was, Kyle,
but there needed to be a vote like this. To
form the College Football Playoff the way that it was,
they needed votes. There were like ten conference commissioners voting.
I don't know why or how or if the NCAA
delegated that or whoever else made it that they needed
ten conference votes. And the only way you're going to

(02:09:57):
get enough votes to pass the playoff the way that
it was was to make the automatic qualifying caveat.

Speaker 20 (02:10:04):
I see, okay, So is that why they're wanting to
expand it to sixteen.

Speaker 5 (02:10:09):
Yes, well, part of it.

Speaker 2 (02:10:10):
They want to they want to keep the automatic qualifiers in,
meaning that they want to give the non power force
that's everybody else, the non power force, a shot at
the national championship. But this has exposed that more because
of the fact that it's twelve. If you do it
at sixteen, you can kind of swaddle that notion and
be okay with it. At twelve, it becomes much more

(02:10:30):
of an argument of wait a minute, you're gonna kick
out Miami, You're gonna kick out Notre Dame. You're gonna
kick out textas you're gonna kick out BYU for James
Madison and for Tulane. I don't like it so that's
why number one. That's number one reason. Number two. That
creates what two more bowl, two more games, additional revenue,
and everybody loves in college football revenue.

Speaker 8 (02:10:52):
I hear that.

Speaker 5 (02:10:53):
Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

Speaker 6 (02:10:55):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (02:10:56):
Thank you Grank for breaking, thanks for calling Kyle, appreciate
you getting in.

Speaker 5 (02:11:00):
Yeah, all right, I love twelve. I get sixteen that
you know what?

Speaker 2 (02:11:07):
You know what sixteen does? It gets everybody happy, Rod
money money, he give you more money. And it also
allows James Madison unto Lane to be in and no
one gives no one's going to argue about it. And
now the number one teams, the number one through four
teams get home games too, so you get a revenue
booster that way. Yeah, everybody, I mean, beyond sixteen would
make it a complete joke. I like, let's say, I mean,

(02:11:29):
I like the thought of a team going thirteen and
oh and winning the SEC or Big ten or whatever conference,
like getting getting the opportunity to have that buy So okay,
let's do this. If it's sixteen teams, forget it, forget
the buye right or how many get the buike? In
Indiana went thirteen and oh and won the Big ten,
they should get a week off. Yes, not only do

(02:11:51):
you get not only for the week of rest, but
the week of not being exposed to danger or being
exposed to possibly being out. So help me with my bracket.
Then who plays whom? Then if it's a sixteen team
and the four teams get the buy uh four, you
can't do that. Eight teams need to get a buy
eight teams get a buye. No even then eight teams
will get a buye and then they play the top four.

(02:12:11):
You get double buys in the top four. Then I
don't know, I don't think. Do you want to play
three weeks in between four weeks in between games? I
guess you do. You've done it before. All right, Well
you know what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna put together
you need double buys. Then if you do sixteen and
you're gonna incorporate buys or what if you if you
give eight teams a bye? Yeah, because then you only

(02:12:32):
have four teams left and you're down to twelve. Nine
play sixteen, ten plays fifteen eleven places, you end up
with four teams, you end up four teams, and then
you're back to twelve and you can't play six on six. Oh,
that's true. So you got to do double buys. So
if you get a double by that means you you
end you you end your season December the sixth and

(02:12:53):
four through eight or sorry, five through eight gets one
by one through four gets double bye. They're not gonna
do that. I don't think do you want to go
forward to it? Because you because I don't think you want.
You don't want to know by system correct? How about this?
What if you push everything back three weeks and started
that and started late and everybody plays.

Speaker 5 (02:13:18):
I don't know. This is for the commission I got
and I got one for you too.

Speaker 2 (02:13:23):
How are you going to go tell the number three
seed that has six players that want to go to
the NFL Draft, we need you in this long ass tournament.
And does that affect how you see these teams? If
you have players that are leaving to go to get
to the portal or.

Speaker 5 (02:13:38):
Go to the pros, do you do you do? You
give that up?

Speaker 2 (02:13:43):
I'll tell you what if I'm paying these kids, you
are finishing out the season. If you can't, if you
don't want to finish out the season, you owe us
some money. Right, How do you balance the money that
you get from a school to the money you've been
decentially could be making in the NFL. If you're gonna
be in a long, exhausted playoff tournament.

Speaker 5 (02:14:05):
I think you play for a championship. I do everybody too.

Speaker 2 (02:14:07):
I would hope they haven't had any major opt outs
in the among playoff teams. You're at twelve, it woul
probably wouldn't happen at sixteen. Yeah, and you don't have
to buy it. You don't have the opt outs in
the college basketball tournament.

Speaker 8 (02:14:17):
All right.

Speaker 2 (02:14:17):
One fifteen of the Matt Thomas showed Ross up next
to the NFL Redwind. What's going on around the nfls
We have wrapped up this latest week.

Speaker 5 (02:14:25):
We have a little bit of the.

Speaker 2 (02:14:27):
Breaking news here on the Matt Thomas showed Ross.

Speaker 5 (02:14:33):
ROSSI a second one or no Ah sure?

Speaker 2 (02:14:40):
The Astros announcing they have sold their Triple A, Double
A and Single A affiliates to a group called Diamond
Baseball Holdings. Diamond Baseball Holdings is a private equity group.
We were just talking about private It's everywhere. Private equity
is going to be rule our lives are more than
it already does. It owns forty five of a potential

(02:15:06):
one and twenty full season minor league baseball teams.

Speaker 5 (02:15:09):
What is bro planning?

Speaker 7 (02:15:11):
What?

Speaker 2 (02:15:11):
What are they going for here? They go ahead, They've
they've purchased the all three affiliates. The affiliates more than three, right,
what don't they a low way high A A.

Speaker 4 (02:15:24):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:15:25):
Maybe I guess those are the ones that the Astros
have owned. Okay, the Cowboys, Hooks, Woodpeckers. What about the
there's like Greenville Astros or something.

Speaker 4 (02:15:34):
I don't know they own that.

Speaker 5 (02:15:35):
Yeah, that I can't speak to.

Speaker 2 (02:15:36):
But so what you got here is you got a
private equity company that has said we're going to invest
in minor league teams, and we believe that we're going
to have strength in numbers. So they must believe that
buying minor league teams and operating them as one big
corporation can help can turn a private for this private

(02:15:58):
equity group. Yeah, I wonder they have to be planning
something team packages or I I don't know. No, No,
I have bought, They've bought. They've bought fifty clubs within
the last five years. Yeah, has got to be a
master plan. Yeah, master plan would be all right, are
most of these not profitable? A lot of them are
not hugely profitable. And how much money are the Albuquerque

(02:16:19):
Isotopes pulling in any years?

Speaker 23 (02:16:21):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:16:21):
I don't know what their expenses are. Yeah, so I
can't tell you what they're I mean from revenue. I
mean it's not exclusively revenue from stadium seats or non exclusives.
They have no television deals to speak of, radio deals.
They have sponsorship deals. My guess is, yeah, you go
to Love was a total company, the Loves Travel Stop,

(02:16:43):
and you tell Loves Travel Stop Loves would you like
to be on in fifty parks outfields in small to
medium sized cities and Love's like, yeah, that's our audience.

Speaker 5 (02:16:55):
Perfect.

Speaker 2 (02:16:56):
Yeah, see that makes sense. Maybe it's so they can
pool together, yeah, advertise. They obviously have a plan. Private
equity ain't buying all this for for beleefs and giggles.

Speaker 5 (02:17:06):
No, no, no, no, they're not.

Speaker 2 (02:17:07):
They're not treating this as a they love baseball. The
planning to make some money, so I mean, to buy
forty five clubs within five years is pretty They're moving
and shaken, and they have a master plan. Because I
looked it up. This Diamond Holdings is owned by silver
Lake Investment firm, which owns e A. They own Klarna,

(02:17:33):
they own Expedia, They have billions invested in Twitter, A,
MC credit, Karma, so FI. Yeah, this is this is made.
They bought up Michael Dell out a Dell. So what
they'll do now is they'll take all those companies in

(02:17:54):
which they own and they will plaster advertising in those stadiums.
Great because they're under one umbrella. I mean, this is ross.
I hate to tell you that this is not out.

Speaker 5 (02:18:04):
Of the ordinary.

Speaker 2 (02:18:05):
Yeah, all the major all the minor league affiliates getting
bought up by one.

Speaker 5 (02:18:10):
Your conference is about to be bought up by private
private equity is not out of the ordinary. I'm just
saying this is crazy.

Speaker 2 (02:18:15):
So the reality is is private equity is getting into
sports more so than ever. Yes, we are owned by
a private equity company. Yes, so we have firsthand knowledge
of it. When I first got in with iHeart, which
before that was called Clue Channel, I was owned by
radio people. Yes, the Maze family owned and created radio
stations and built these company this company off of their

(02:18:38):
philosophies about radio. Private equity came in and bought them
changed to iHeart hired some radio people, but also hired
some people that did not have radio experience. That we're
running businesses, and we are operating much more like a
business than we are a radio company founded by Lowry
Maze and Mark Maze and in some respects Red McCombs.
Red McCombs, look at this guy, radio historic I have

(02:19:00):
been with. I didn't know that is nineteen ninety one.
Shut out Red McCombs. May he rest here, former owner
of the Santurnio Spurs and owner of the Cowboys too.
No Minnesota, I can major donor to the Texas Longhorns.

Speaker 4 (02:19:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:19:13):
Macomb's Business School, right.

Speaker 2 (02:19:15):
Macomb's Business School, Yeah, one of the most highly respected
business schools in the country, and as alongside the main
School of Business at Texas. I M so point being
is this private equity And for anybody that works in
a normal nine to five world, you and I don't
do that. But private equity is owning a lot of things, yep,
buying up all the property and all the companies. So
what you will do is the folksy little minor league product. Yes,

(02:19:40):
of watching Grandma's Biscuit Barn. They're not if Grandma's biscuit
barn wants advertiser's going to have to advertise with seven or.

Speaker 5 (02:19:48):
Eight teams, Grandma, Yeah, let's go. I can't believe it.
I thought of Grandma's biscuit barn, but I did see
it later. See you later, Mom and Pop.

Speaker 2 (02:19:58):
Now minor league sadly relations They will also take administrative teams.

Speaker 5 (02:20:04):
For instance, they're going wheel down.

Speaker 2 (02:20:05):
If there are three teams in northern California they own,
uh huh, they will have one PR person, one marketing person,
one ticket person, social media managers, social media, so they
will it will be shaving down and making them leaner. Fantastic,
there's your news, but it's I mean again. Uh My
guess is Jim Crane doesn't turn a bad business deal down,

(02:20:26):
then the deal.

Speaker 5 (02:20:27):
Was probably offering.

Speaker 2 (02:20:28):
I'm sure they're overpaying for these to try to get
them all accruede. I guess, Yeah, to make the big
conglomerate bigger. And they're reach bigger from coast to coast.
And if you're telling me the company that is, this
private equity firm is buying all these teams with all
those other relationships, yeah, guess what Expedy is going to
handle their travel.

Speaker 5 (02:20:45):
I bet you their plan is to own all one twenty.

Speaker 2 (02:20:50):
We saw in some respects with MLS, but that hasn't
worked out well because they just keep changing ownerships left
and right. Teams are buying multiple teams. At one time
they were they were, but it wasn't private equien to
that well the sorer. So we do owe your audience
to watch that craft. We own the NF We owe
the NFL we one. Oh well, we also owe them
Joe spot updates. We didn't even get to the Paradis
and yord On stuff.

Speaker 8 (02:21:10):
You know what I'm gonna.

Speaker 5 (02:21:11):
We're gonna. We're gonna skip NFL we wand dang and
here it are.

Speaker 2 (02:21:15):
Now. I had so much prepared and you had nothing prepared.
Oh I don't believe you. Well, let me delete the
spot hard work cross.

Speaker 5 (02:21:23):
You and I are shutting up Joe spotus.

Speaker 2 (02:21:25):
Speaking runs the cuts, then we'll okay, Well, I won't
shut up to some extent. But uh, Jose Altuve, what
will his role be in twenty twenty six? Mister Espada.

Speaker 13 (02:21:37):
I like the fact that he is open to help
him to do whatever he texts, you know what, help
the team.

Speaker 5 (02:21:41):
But but but I think second base is his flying position.

Speaker 13 (02:21:44):
I think we're going to see him play there more
this season, you know, giving us some starts in left field.
That's something that I will sit down and talk to
him about that. But right now is I need to
keep our guys healthy. I think a lot of these
players can play multiple positions. Paradis can play some second
and first base. It allows me to keep Korea and
Walker healthy. The DH spot, I'm also going to use

(02:22:06):
that spot to keep those guys off their feet some.
So you know, I got some really good players that
once they're healthy, it's a really good team to uh to,
It's gonna be a really tough team to beat.

Speaker 4 (02:22:20):
Just you know what.

Speaker 2 (02:22:21):
Accepted Jose likes playing second base. He's the greatest aster
of all time. He played nice of all time. He
played nice last year. He hates playing left field. He'll
never say it, the astro will never say it, but
clearly there's more room for him in the outfield than
there's in the infield.

Speaker 5 (02:22:37):
There's no argument to that. But they don't want to
put him there.

Speaker 2 (02:22:40):
Uh, I mean it'll be he'll he'll play everywhere to
an extent, because where where's the room for him?

Speaker 5 (02:22:48):
Second base.

Speaker 2 (02:22:49):
If eastcac Paratus is playing at second base, you're gonna
spell Korea some Jeremy Penny had probably not that much.

Speaker 5 (02:22:55):
He's pretty young. Could it be first base?

Speaker 2 (02:22:58):
But it wouldn't it make a lot of sense for
Christian Walker to move on in escyk Paratis to play
a lot of first base, So tell Dan to make
the move. Well, here's what Joe Spot had to say
about escoch Paratus.

Speaker 13 (02:23:11):
We're going to ask those questions here in the in
the coming weeks. Right, we were trying to improve our roster.
I need to keep all those guys healthy, right, but
I'm going to ask those guys to play multiple positions
so I could keep them all in the lineup so
I could keep that offense uh together and give us
a chance to win every single night.

Speaker 5 (02:23:29):
So you know they they've all done it in.

Speaker 8 (02:23:31):
The past, uh.

Speaker 13 (02:23:32):
And We're going to continue to explore our options and
see how we do to improve our club.

Speaker 5 (02:23:35):
But I'm excited about these guys.

Speaker 13 (02:23:36):
Once we're healthy, we are we're going to be a
very tough team to be.

Speaker 2 (02:23:43):
So conversation is going to be had. Hinting in the
first bite that Paradis could be playing some second base,
then all two of his playing second base. Where does
Bryce Matthews. I mean, you had that gut feeling that
he'll be traded or moved. It's possible, maybe as a
sweetener and a walker Dale.

Speaker 4 (02:24:00):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:24:01):
I mean, is the guy that they have from Atlanta
Braves to even make the roster? Oh, Nick Allen, Yeah,
we don't even know his name. I know he's like
a backup. Time's figured out. He's like a backup utility.
You've already got one to the backup. You've already got
one in your back of utility. Pratis does not have
a starting spot right now. I think you can piece
it together with your outfielders and with with al two Va,

(02:24:23):
with Bright, with potentially Bryce Matthews, I don't know. Or
maybe there are some more moves to be made. But
one thing that hinders everything is a spot. Said this
in the first bite, like, oh, he wants to use
the DH as the day off place, as a day
off spot for everyone. But he also says jord On
Alvarez is going to be playing a lot of designated hitter, not.

Speaker 13 (02:24:45):
Much left field. I can't give you the numbers of
it right now. But but you know, I'm we're going
to try to minimize the volume of innings and left
trying to keep piece back in that lineup every single day.
It's our nomber one priority. He's one of the best
hitters in the game. We could probably argue here all
night that he's probably top two hitters.

Speaker 2 (02:25:03):
He's number one in my opinion.

Speaker 5 (02:25:06):
But keeping your unhealthy?

Speaker 13 (02:25:08):
Why he brings to our line No, why he brings
to our clubhouse suppressed?

Speaker 5 (02:25:11):
Seem that game? He's a game changing player, number one
ahead of Judge.

Speaker 2 (02:25:16):
Huh, let him have his shine. Come on, come on,
come on, come on, I love yord on me or
on al team your daddy. He has not hit forty
home runs, let alone fifty or sixty, and he's hurt. True,

(02:25:37):
but Aaron Judge had the he had the injury prone
label in New York as well when he got hurt
for a couple of years in a row.

Speaker 5 (02:25:44):
But what happened, got out there and he was healthy.

Speaker 8 (02:25:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:25:48):
OK, people slap around that injury prone label a little
too quick. What's my feeling on your arm? You said
he's never going to play one hundred and thirty games
ever again in his career.

Speaker 2 (02:25:58):
I cannot wait. I will apologize to the people that
we apologize. You should apologize to the Alvarez family. His
wife is children, all of the Let me tell you.

Speaker 5 (02:26:06):
Have our s family.

Speaker 2 (02:26:07):
I love your husband, your son, your father. I am
a big fan, but I know his history and he
knows his history. And the reality is he's going to
get some time off because they do not want large
chunks of him being gone, like chunks of his body. No,

(02:26:28):
like in the left field fence. They don't want large
chunks in that outfield scoreboard. We have creaky knees, a
creaky hands, his hands fine.

Speaker 5 (02:26:38):
Are you sure? No, you don't even know.

Speaker 2 (02:26:40):
You can't even say it with a straight face. He's
good to go for a spring training at spot. He
did say that, right, So let's go. We got said parade.
This is gonna be good to full go as well.
We're gonna call Jason Verlander coming up here, Jason, Jason Verland.
It must be a second cousin. Oh to Justin John
on seven ninety at one forty high.

Speaker 24 (02:26:58):
John, How you doing, guys?

Speaker 6 (02:27:01):
I just wonder where Jason Berlin is going to be playing?

Speaker 8 (02:27:05):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (02:27:06):
Jason is right now a free agent.

Speaker 23 (02:27:12):
Great and when will the team be signing him?

Speaker 2 (02:27:21):
Okay, is it something funny? I mean, I think he's
really going to be coming here.

Speaker 4 (02:27:25):
I don't think.

Speaker 2 (02:27:26):
Yeah, maybe you think it's comical that he's coming. I'm
I can get that, But hypertension, I don't know. No, No,
John's fine, He's fine, He's he's doing great. Yeah, he's
he just he's not.

Speaker 4 (02:27:36):
I don't.

Speaker 5 (02:27:36):
I don't sense a lot of excitement in your voice.
That be accurate, that'd be accurate, Yes, sir, Okay, see
I do.

Speaker 2 (02:27:42):
I thank you, John appreciate it. Yeah, I don't see. Okay,
he's fine. He was smirking.

Speaker 4 (02:27:48):
Are you sure?

Speaker 19 (02:27:49):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (02:27:50):
He wasn't like sounds like he took off his oxygen
mask for he was probably worried about the guy. I
want him to be okay, John. We asked John if
he was okay. He said he was fine. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:28:01):
But a lot of times people say they're fine, they're
not mad. I would be one of those people.

Speaker 4 (02:28:05):
I'm not.

Speaker 5 (02:28:06):
I know you should say you shoulda me. That's exactly right.

Speaker 15 (02:28:11):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (02:28:12):
I'm more worried about Ben because Ben is he gonna
try is he gonna try to gravy train on the
a team again. Maybe be nothing but show Hew Tony
love and justin Verlander loves Tony is great, so is Verlander.
To Hall of Famers, I can do the same thing.
I'll get paid less.

Speaker 5 (02:28:28):
Okay, why are you worried about him?

Speaker 2 (02:28:31):
I'm just telling gravy trainers, and you're so weird. I'm
telling you the truth. Guy's name is Ben Millery. It
would be out of you of radio shows. He got lucky,
very to some extent.

Speaker 4 (02:28:42):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (02:28:43):
I'm self made. You met yourself made. Yeah, but we're
you're lucky. We're here, We are lucky.

Speaker 4 (02:28:47):
We're here.

Speaker 2 (02:28:49):
Oh now, this is something I want to get into
right here. Jonathan Folscher. Oh my god, Jonathan Folscher. I
put M on social media a couple of days ago.

Speaker 5 (02:28:58):
Jonathan. I am low key obsessed with Jalen Peatree's helmet.
How about you?

Speaker 19 (02:29:05):
I am too. Like It's like I was making fun
of the helmets, but it seems like his is bigger
and fluffier and taller than everyone else's. And you know
what it reminds me of. It reminds me of the
Seinfeld episode with the Wiz, And maybe y'all might have

(02:29:25):
seen it where the guy like he comes in, He's like,
I'm the Wiz and he's got like, yes, nope, nobody beats.

Speaker 5 (02:29:34):
The Wiz is his helmet? Jonathan, How old are you?
Might ask, I'm forty four perfect.

Speaker 19 (02:29:41):
I'm your noble.

Speaker 2 (02:29:44):
You're like right there, yeah, you guys like by year old, Jonathan,
do me a favorite. I wanted you to go look
for the Great Gazoo on on Google. He knows the
Great Kazoo.

Speaker 19 (02:29:54):
To look it up.

Speaker 5 (02:29:55):
He doesn't know the Great Kazoo is. How do you
not know the Great Kazoo?

Speaker 2 (02:29:59):
Come on, now, what is that?

Speaker 19 (02:30:00):
What is our reference to you?

Speaker 22 (02:30:02):
What?

Speaker 2 (02:30:03):
Jonathan? You go recognize You'll call back and you'll say thanks, guys,
I needed to see that he's seen the zoo.

Speaker 24 (02:30:12):
You know what.

Speaker 19 (02:30:12):
And I'm very anti social media.

Speaker 4 (02:30:15):
It's on the internet.

Speaker 2 (02:30:16):
You're not antio.

Speaker 5 (02:30:18):
You don't have to go to the social media.

Speaker 19 (02:30:19):
Join Twitter. I will join Twitter just to link up
with both of you.

Speaker 22 (02:30:25):
Yeah all, take a look.

Speaker 2 (02:30:27):
Follow me on Instagram. That sports our video Instagram too
at sports MPT for everything. Thank you, Jonathan, by the way,
go look at the Greatkazoo and you can thank us later. Everybody.
He knows the Great Kazoof. He's forty four. Yeah, I
was gonna say forty four year olds know the Grea Kazoo.

Speaker 5 (02:30:40):
So then you know the Greatkazoo.

Speaker 3 (02:30:43):
Oh me, Jonathan, Uh yeah, I know this is from
the Yeah. Yeah, it's on my ESPN.

Speaker 2 (02:30:53):
I mean that thing is I don't know what have
y'all not been watching football all season?

Speaker 3 (02:30:57):
No, but you know, when Matt, I'll what's in the game,
And I was telling him I'd go the same thing,
Like his helmet looks different.

Speaker 2 (02:31:04):
I's a couple of weeks, but not on a national
television audience.

Speaker 5 (02:31:08):
Okay, you don't.

Speaker 2 (02:31:08):
You don't count when you got the number six NFL
crew call in your game, you one of us? Have
you been wearing it? He got? He came back.

Speaker 4 (02:31:16):
I liked.

Speaker 2 (02:31:17):
I love that he's wearing it. I came back from
a concussion. I want him to wear for the rest
of his NFL Dudes across the NFL been wearing the
Guardian cap. Well, I'm not calling it a Guardian, I'm
calling him the Greecazo the Guardian cap. Romeo Dabs been
wearing one. There was a lineman wearing one who Steve
Young used to be the o G when he was
wearing a Darth Vader helmet.

Speaker 5 (02:31:35):
That thing was like three times. It was a little
bit different.

Speaker 13 (02:31:37):
And was it?

Speaker 5 (02:31:38):
Mark Kelso of the Bills way back in the day,
I said, don't know. I'll take your word for it.
Speaking of the Bills.

Speaker 2 (02:31:44):
A front of the show, Steve Tasker, there was erroneous
reports of his death and he goes.

Speaker 5 (02:31:47):
He went on Twitter said I'm here. Oh really, he
didn't respond to my text, So he's dead to me.

Speaker 2 (02:31:53):
That's fair, Actually, Jacob, before we play Believe it or Not, Hi, Jacob,
what's happened?

Speaker 19 (02:31:59):
Guy High?

Speaker 9 (02:32:01):
A random justin Verlander question. So I think everybody thinks
he's coming back to the ass, but whatever, when he
goes to the Hall of Fame, does he wear a
Tiger's hat or does he wear a hat?

Speaker 2 (02:32:18):
It's not his decision any longer. I believe it's major league.
It's the Hall of Fame decision. You can still say
who Yeah, I mean I would still say Tiger's probably
at this point, but it's close.

Speaker 5 (02:32:27):
He can you can suggest, man, he can.

Speaker 22 (02:32:29):
He can.

Speaker 5 (02:32:29):
He can make a recommendation.

Speaker 8 (02:32:30):
You cannot.

Speaker 2 (02:32:31):
You cannot demand it because Wade Boggs demanded he'd be
a Tampa Bay devil.

Speaker 4 (02:32:35):
Ray.

Speaker 2 (02:32:37):
I think they would honor whatever suggestion he made. So
it probably is up to Justin Verlander, Like he's not
gonna say make me ay. They would throw out if
he said the Giants. I think if he says make
me a Tiger or make me an astro, they'll do
whatever he says.

Speaker 5 (02:32:48):
Yeah, yeah, but.

Speaker 2 (02:32:49):
It's up to it's gonna it's still it's still there.
It's still their decision. But they will listen to your suggestion.
All right, really quick, thank you, Jacob one two three
Ross fill up his resume. Yes you may, uh, all right,
I think I'm you ready? Yes, one two three Tiger. Yeah,
I think it's close though it's gotten closer back and

(02:33:11):
I don't know. They won a World Series or something again,
and he won two World Series here and you know
he loves winning.

Speaker 4 (02:33:20):
He did.

Speaker 2 (02:33:20):
He also think part of him is like, I don't
want to be associated with this dainted team.

Speaker 5 (02:33:25):
No no, no, no, no rise in Houston, but nationally
the team is tainted. They just are.

Speaker 2 (02:33:30):
And you know he but he was never affiliated directly
with it. None of the pictures were honestly who loves
