Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross one an
Age Town.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Good morning, and welcome to a Monday edition of The
Matt Thommy Show.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
A Ross this his Sports Talk seven ninety track. I'm
not a hairband guy in the eighties, but this song

(00:35):
is a jam. I don't have a lot of quiet
ride on my phone. Matter of fact, I don't think
I can name another song besides this one. It's a
banger sports RV. How the hell are you?

Speaker 2 (00:49):
I'm great, man, You don't like this song? Tell the truth,
Just tell the truth.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
See it's not a vibe. It's fine.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Turn up.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Yeah, as far as eighties hairban cheese goes fine.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Seriously, we let's wrap. You're not fired up for a
Texas team has swung game away from five hundred.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
We went past nineteen seventy eight, so I'm happy about that.
Stop that mean, he asked my honest opinions. Yeah, but
you took a shot at me.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
I shot anybody. Who what do you come up?

Speaker 2 (01:31):
You said, yeah, uh huh, you caught that straighted you caught.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
I'm what you're talking about. Just giving my feelings on
the on the choice in the selection. WHOA, let's go baby,
hugh stun Tech sans Hugh stun Tech sans fired up. Baby,
I predicted the victory. I told you this was gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Yeah, you did. Good for you. I'm sick of predicting.
Suck at mac Jones. You na me time to suck anything.
He was hardly on the field.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Excuse me, that was really odd? My ten four out
of the gate fart. Oh my goodness, our recording is
not working well. We do sometimes have recording issues up here,
Yes we do.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Oh fans, y'all suck to, So screw off what happens.
Our boss says, ye about it. No sucking, because you're
your eyes and I'm gonna be at the game on Saturday. Way,
so y'all can suck it to. Somebody's got a case
of the Monday I got here's the problem, So truth
be told. I uh got to. We went to Phoenix

(02:41):
for the day to see the Cougars play uh Arizona State,
which they won, big, big win, problem road victory for
the University of Houston Cougars. That's awesome. We're now seven
to one in the Top twenty five. Awesome and in
the mix for the Big twelve. It's gonna take some
other people beating each other up a little bit. But
there's they're out of a sixteen team league there in
the fourth spot.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Not terrible.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
That's great, predicted to me thirteenth. Right, Yeah, so sucking predictions.
I think I'm stop saying suck it. I'm done saying
a second for a while.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
It feels like it's it's worth Yeah, I gotta, I gotta,
I gotta change my phrasing.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
All right.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
Uh So I did not get home until four fifteen
in the morning, mm hmm, slept till about nine, went
to the text, I mean, I went to uh, watched
the Texans game for a little while, and then I
went to a Rockets reunion event, which was kind of nice.
It was like they have the alumni group of the
Rockets get together, and it was you know, yeah, was there?

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Is that what y'all was in for? This y because
he was well he was Friday.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
Yeah yeah, okay, So it was a nice event they
had at the Post Look Hotel, which was really cool.
But I had going to bed at eight forty five, Lassent,
I was pretty much beat.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
I think I got two much sleep because I'm really
grautchy this morning for absolutely no reason. Number two, I
had again a plethora of strange dreams.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Uh oh, I told you to say those pills. Man,
I don't know what it is.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
I gotta I gotta either change each my medications or
go to I don't know, maybe maybe some herbal tea
at night, some warm milk. I just I told you this,
and you've always said it's good for brain activity. I
don't want to ever if you said you can never
dream again, I'd be okay with it. No, you need
it because I don't have any good dreams. I only
have weird ones.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Yeah, that's that. Yeah, you got to get to the
root of those problems. I was twelve years old, I
had great dreams. Hmm.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Yeah, erbal tea and all that. You're just treating the sentims.
You gotta treat the disease. Man, he's the bottom. What's
going on?

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Maybe?

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Yeah, I mean I'm all for it. So if you
any might want to be my third last one, quit
on you the kope right now. That's a different is
for different.

Speaker 1 (04:41):
Times, all right. I don't know. The Texans kicked some
ash yesterday. Joke, joke.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
I'm sorry. I'd like to apologize. To Matt Thomas and
his family. Yeah, I even hear it, So you're lucky. Okay,
I'll go back on the podcast listen to it. Uh
CJ probably had his best game, and I don't know
for sure.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
Stroud franchise quarterback feeling good. It's been a little rocky
start of the season. Yeah, it was really rocky. Time
possession huge part of the game. Texas defense elite Kimie
Fairbairn needs to know how to kick to his zone.
But that's neither here nor there. He still kicked a
bunch of field goals.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
His his his haull of his uh ring of honor.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
Spile still be firmly still.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Yeah, yeah, he's got fourteen Fantasy points I've heard, so yeah,
he's good. I got crushed on Fantasy and I have
a good team, but I had I had Jamior Gibbs
out on a on an off week, so I was
kind of screwed. Sorry to hear that, Matt, Jonathan and
Taylor good God. The Colts just beating people up all right?
Since you opened this Pandora's box, how did I get
minus nine points from the Bengals defense? I get minus nine?

(05:45):
Have you met that you see that. Did you see
what happened? But minus nine is still okay? Minus five?

Speaker 1 (05:50):
Sure?

Speaker 2 (05:50):
Minus nine? I mean if I did not play them,
i'd have you give up thirty nine points. You give
a minus nine? That doesn't make any sense, That's what
I'm saying. It gotta be a score error. I need
a petitions. Yes, seriously. Maybe it was because it was
a Jets or like the Jets. The algorithm was like,
you get the points of the Jets.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
You really? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (06:09):
I mean Justin Fields had a good game, hobbin. It
was Justin Fields and the Jets. So I picked up
the Bengals defense.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
Are you sure you got a minus nine? Minus nine? Well,
who did the scoring on the league? Oh, that'd be you.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
So it's left over from whatever kind of trash you
left on there. You had to correct a lot of
two years to fix that. So that's really not I
never seen him minus not on defense. So now I
got to put it under the micros. Apologize to yourself.
I might lose to Wex and fall to one in seven.
Yeah okay. Uh so we got the Texans to get
to today. We got Tomico being salty after the game yesterday,

(06:40):
which I don't understand why he salted you don't understand that.
That's why I play come on, feel the noise, you know,
that's why I picked that song. Okay, apparently Demico doesn't
like the noise, doesn't respect your noise.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
It was.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
It was pretty interesting. He came out guns of blazing. Yeah,
well we'll hear that comment coming up in segment number
two of the show. Dimiko will speak by the way,
eleven fifteen. We will carry that as long as our
technology allows that. So we'll look forward to hearing him
at love and fifteen. Maybe he won't be nearly as
salty as he was yesterday. Uh, and then eleven and thirty.
You got to tell the truth coming up today, the

(07:16):
news at noon. We got all other things to get to.
We have quite a few LSU fans. Well, we frankly
work with everybody that went to LSU. So we're we're
in a baton rouge mafi in here, the alumni group.
I believe in this building. Yeah, I believe forty percent
of Brian Kelly's bios coming from people that work here.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
It's probably accurate. So we'll get me hear who picked
that up.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
No, we won't do it was like Mama Lafouche's and
Dewey Sausages. Picking up the buyout, I mean Darling's Crackling
Barnes got to pick up a cell a lot of
cracklins to pick up that tab. Boudros fanboat Farm, I
think is picking up the buyout.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
And Dalia we.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Sail like Kraklins. We gotta see a lot of cracklings.
We don't pay for Brow and Kelly's counttrack. We and
Krackling's bond fourteen Batrougy locations. We like him spoicy, We
got crawda and flava we have. We have all the
barbecue sound, cream.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Onion, Cracklings.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
We sell the ball, Today's Today's If you ain't Baman Dolly.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
You quickling Blake, now read that man. No man got
back the coat. No louis Nana. They gonna get hit
older all man. Oh you're all official, Brow and I
oh you're home. Put on a poder cob Man Brackigo

(08:42):
at lisat'll stereotype of this show yet? And by the way,
speaking of college keeping music, what the hell is going
on with your longhorn? What they always mean?

Speaker 3 (08:50):
What do you mean?

Speaker 1 (08:51):
Come back?

Speaker 3 (08:52):
My god?

Speaker 1 (08:54):
Jeep Bear on the road amidst the flurry of cow bells,
and he came through and then got concussed.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
I didn't see one bit of the game with the
cowbells dropping. You crazy or could you live with it?
I mean you get used to it, but it's ridiculous.
I feel like if you're in the crowd and you
got to put on your your ear plugs. It's out
of control.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
And Brian Kelly got it in.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
I mean Matt Ruers doesn't even have pay roads. How
they're gonna pay for this contract, That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
Like they can't do anything in that town or in
that state, and they're gonna fund a fifty million dollars buyout.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
I mean it's dentist optic in optically not optimal optional state,
I mean dental care.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
Okay, if you want it. They're like closing the libraries
at the school. I meaned, is the next best thing? Seriously,
what are you doing?

Speaker 2 (09:52):
LSU first of all, University of sign up with that
crazy money and it's like, what are you doing that bad?

Speaker 4 (09:59):
No?

Speaker 1 (09:59):
I mean they lost a good team, but he's a
you know, everybody's a failure.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
You got Penn State, Florida, LSU, who else, U, se LA,
All these schools.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
All think they need to be winning the championship every
year and it just ain't like that.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
It's you know why, it is because this pressure, I mean,
you've got you've got donors will give me money to
begin with. Now they're really giving more money because they're
only paying for the school, but they're paying for the
players and they want to see results quickly. We got
to talk about sark in the NFL flirtations or not.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
According to sark Well, he was highly defensive, which means
which means you're totally innocent. The agent did it, just
just throwing it out there.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
If you listen to any eight year old, you know,
the more defensive they are, the more guilty they are.
I did not steal that candy from not the comedian store.
What do you say, ross, I did not steal that
a candy?

Speaker 3 (10:51):
Right?

Speaker 2 (10:53):
And then Demiko was defensive about the noise. It isn't
here so defensive. We'll hear from him and we'll talk.
We got MAYNB, We got so much to get to.
We also have the Athletics top fifty free agent guests
baseball list.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
Who's not one? I'm not happy with any of that article. Yeah,
I know here the sizzling. You should be here in
the sitzling. I told you, I'm upgrading to Ribbi.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
No you're getting, You're getting like sirloin. Maybe can can
they have Botti ground beef ground. I'm I'm upgrading to
wag you a five baby, so discouraging God, I'm I'm
hoping everybody's wrong. We'll get to that. Rockets still looking
for their first one of the year. They'll take on

(11:39):
the hated Brooklyn Nets tonight at Tote Center. We'll have
a conversation for you as well, news at noon, Demiko
press conference and to tell the truth all today, we
want you guys involved as well. I hope you guys
had a great sports weekend. If you're a Texans fan,
you are thrilled. If you are an Aggie fan, you
are thrilled. You got a coach fired over the weekend.
If you're an acoustic Cougar fan, you are thrilled. I gotta

(12:01):
tell you something. We were talking about this on the
plane ride home on late Saturday night. There are very
few cities ROSSI in this country, and there was only
two other ones we could think of that are the
colleges are in the major metropolitan city that just routinely
show up for their games, Like, unfortunately we have a

(12:21):
problem here in Houston with the Cougars because we're also
spread out with so many different schools. The same thing
could be said for SMU and TCU. Miami only draws
when they win, Minnesota only draws in Minneapolis when they win.
The only three places we can think of in terms
of major metropolitan cities with big time schools that just
always fill the building it felt like to me is Seattle,

(12:45):
University of Washington. Georgia Tech usually always draws for Georgia
Tech for Atlanta, and that's because those teams have been good.
And in Arizona say it's been relatively good except for
the Herm Edwards years they've drawn. Well, there were sixty
thousand people at that game on Saturday night. Great atmosphere.
I am a huge Tempe Arizona fan. If you happen
to go look at the clientele, you'd be impressed with

(13:06):
that as well. I heard you brought the extra big
monoculars for that one. I used the normal size, but
thank you for asking for spotting. Yeah, because it's I
will say, the players on the field. Yeah, we think
I knew you meant what you meant. It's really high
up but Sun Devil Stadium or they call it the

(13:28):
corporate sponsorship now, but it's great place, great atmosphere. And
the Cougars went in there and I mean huge surprise.
Now we had a whole on kind of towards the end,
but that's expected to say. It's good footall team. But
we knock Sam love It out of the ballgame. And
the Cougars Connor Wegman was the best running back in
the field either way. You know, I think had over
one hundred yards and rushing in putting fifty on one play.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
Yeah, they call him crazy legs Wegman. They call him scooped.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
Yeah. I like that.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
It's fun. It's fun.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
Now, I'll say this, that two hour planing ride from
Phoenix from Houston, Phoenix back to Houston mill of the night,
that'll screw your scrip, your sister because you're playing a
late game as it is, then you have the time change,
so like, but it was well worth it. And congratulations.
The Cougars are now seven and one on the AAR Wow,
hopefully going to beat West Virginia.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
I believe.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
I didn't check the line, but I was, and I
was gonna say they're probably pretty big favorites on that
and a kind of puncher's chance. Now they're gonna probably
have to run the table in order to get to
the Big twelve Championship game. I'm honestly not super well
versed on Big twelve, so forgive me. But at UCF
home for TCU at Baylor, how does that as far
as a sleep Realistically? I could I mean, I mean,

(14:38):
being as non biased as I can, but it can't be.
I mean, if they could go three and one of
their last four games, I don't think it gets into
the Big twelve Championship game, but it gets in, it
probably gets into a pretty decent bowl. I mean, that
would be a ten and two football team. Now again,
well none of those teams are very good, but you
got you got to go on the road for two
of them. TCU does have a decent record this year. Yeah,

(15:01):
they're six and two. Actually, yeah, they're pretty good. I
don't know much about UCF. Better road game is a
road game, but hell, I'm so happy, and you know what,
and I'm meant to bring this up, and I brought
this up to you several times, and with Willie and
all the situation we had could expect. Willie was awesome.
He was at the plane, is we're getting on the plane.

(15:22):
He greeted every single person getting on the plane. Yeah,
you've told me about that. I mean, I'm telling you,
ladies and gentlemen. I have been around college and professional
athletes in team situations for thirty years, thirty five years
traveling on these planes.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
Nobody does. Nobody does that. He carries bags and puts
him in the cargo section.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
Wait, he does. He takes up players bags. No out
of his players bags. But he's helped with equipment. Guys,
He's helped. I've seen it myself. Oh he was serving
up to Salisbury steak. And it goes back to Frankly
his days when he was running junior college programs where
you had to be the coach, yes, and the equipment
manager and a trainer, and you had to be the
sid and you had to take care of academics.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
You tape it up. Ankle.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
Still, I don't know he's doing everything. But I was like, Lily,
it's eleven o'clock at night, just wanted he's just trying
to congratulate everybody. I'm like, you're just the best thing ever.
And by way, LSU, you can't have him, so suck it.
You're not getting him. I don't think they're getting him.
I would think the reason one of the first of all,
he's a great football coach, as I said and have
been saying, and a great hire for the for the university.

(16:26):
I mean, one of the reasons that he was such
a great hire for you of h was one of
the reasons that Calvin Sampson was a great hire. I mean,
let's just be honest. It was the age factor. Somebody
who's not going to necessarily get hired away.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
They're getting getting hired to their final destiny. Not final
destination that sounds dark, but you know they're they're place
to place to retire. Yeah exactly. Thank you for helping me,
You walk, you help each other out.

Speaker 2 (16:51):
So yeah that it I mean, I guess we'll see
the but that would probably it makes not only that
it would make him I want to stay in Houston,
but it makes other teams and programs perhaps hesitant to
go barking up that tree.

Speaker 3 (17:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
Again, I think Willie's sixty five sixty five. Yeah, so
you know, I would say that's something building very nice. Yeah,
obviously you can win at U of H to an extent.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
Yeah, and he's winning right now seven and one.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
But we will be celebrating the twenty fifteen Peach Bowl
champions this Saturday at the game against West Virginia.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
I can't believe, like you said it, last week is
ten years now.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
I feel I don't want to feel old, because I
don't want to ever feel old, but I feel like, man,
I felt like it was just around the corner. I
remember partying in Atlanta. You know they have in New
York City, they have the big apple drop in Atlanta,
they have the peach that drops really yeah at New
Year's Yes, they drop a peach. Yes, I'm not kidding you. Yeah,
I mean it makes sense. I mean it is.

Speaker 1 (17:51):
What would you drop in Houston A jalapeno? Oh, A brisket?

Speaker 4 (17:59):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (17:59):
And then you'd be running a way.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
I do have a bite of it. I don't have
a full meal of it. By the way, this a
loaded question. We had barbecue at the Rockets game on
Friday night.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
Did you enjoy it? Seven one three? Shut up?

Speaker 3 (18:11):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (18:11):
I did good. That's all. That's the right answer. I
shouldn't even asked the.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
Guy at the carving station. I asked him. I was like,
this is gonna be every game. He's like, I don't
think So it was good though, Oh man, it was nice.
It's probably better than the game we're gonna Tonight's guaranteed
mid night, by the way, I hope, so it better be.
Mitchell and I'm mobile line at ten twenty seven on
The Matt Thomas Show with Ross Mitchell.

Speaker 1 (18:35):
Good morning, Good morning, gentlemen. How are y'all good? Good?

Speaker 5 (18:40):
Well, I didn't expect to speak on Georgia peaches, but
since you mentioned it, so yeah, we'll just fully that.
Let that sleeping dog lot. So I called in about
I predicted this Saturday night? Uh did lsu has on
with Brian Kelly, which was a strange hire to begin

(19:04):
with if you ask me, and I made uh, he's next,
Paddington Bear is going as well?

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Who is Who's going next? And who's Paddington Bear? Who's
Paddington Bear? David Randa?

Speaker 2 (19:19):
Oh okay, all right, yeah, I didn't know that was
what is that a nickname or something you just made up?

Speaker 1 (19:24):
It sounds weird type of.

Speaker 5 (19:30):
Personality or whatever.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
You know, not leading young men into posts. Does he
always wear a raincoat?

Speaker 6 (19:35):
I don't all he's just a strange guy.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
I will say he's a little different. Yeah, I will
agree with you on that.

Speaker 6 (19:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (19:44):
So so I posted Saturday night that you know, it's
time for both programs to move on. I love both
of them. Uh, I graduated from Baylor. My friend was
an All American and now an NFL Hall of Famer
at l Issue, and my teammate in high school here
in a greater Houston area, so l s U. I mean,

(20:09):
that's really what it boils down to. And so if
Matt Rule doesn't take Penn State, I think that's where
Brian Kelly, you know, starts. And uh, if Matt Rule
takes Penn State, then I think he get us to Nebraska.
But we got we gotta figure out a way to
get rid of Dave Veranda, and I think that I
think the money, the years have passed, so the buyouts

(20:33):
not as bad as it was, say two years ago.
I really I like James Franklin to come over and
take over the Baylor program. You know, he made he
made Bandy relevant.

Speaker 2 (20:47):
Well, we gotta get we gotta get Dave Branda fired first,
thank you Mitchell for the phone call. Trust me, James
Franklin will be will be a coach next year in
college football somewhere. He'll have a chance to choose a
variety of spots. I'm not the biggest James Franklin fan,
but James Franklin wins games.

Speaker 4 (21:04):
Now.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
He doesn't win the super big ones. Is his case
in his record against top ten teams? Yes, but he
did get his team to the College Football Playoff last year.
He's run two programs successfully. He's gonna have work next year.
If I'm Brian Kelly, and I don't know if James
Franklin's contracts the same as Brian Kelly. But Brian Kelly
takes jobs. It negates some of the money that LSU

(21:27):
has to pay him. I don't know if James Franklin's
Cutch situation is exact same, like most coaches are kind
of that where if you make nine million dollars a
year from another place, it's that the tax chemic language.

Speaker 1 (21:37):
Usually it's offsetting. Yeah, so there you have it.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
Yeah, Dave Randa is still the coach there. I know
there was some pressure in him last year, and my
guess is the pressure is heated up a little bit.
I don't know, ROSSI, in the history of us doing
the show together, will there be an off season of
so many high end D one jobs available. It's it's interesting,
and we got to get a break. But I am
just fascinated by all of this and where this is

(22:04):
going and how long this is?

Speaker 1 (22:05):
Is this just gonna be?

Speaker 2 (22:06):
Is this the new normal, especially in this era of
nil and dumping all this money into these programs to
where we talked about it.

Speaker 1 (22:14):
These guys are going to want to see results.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
These these donors are gonna want to see they're spending
all this money on these players. You're gonna want a
championship and only one team every year wins and if
you lose three in a row in the year you
literally make the semi final one year and six games later,
you're fired.

Speaker 1 (22:35):
That's the leash.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
It's about. You've come for us to ask us for money.
We're going to dictate who stays and who goes. Eighties
jobs now it's an impossible largely irrelevant, it's an impossible
standard ten thirty one on Sports Talk seven on eighty
ten thirty six in the Am here on Sports Talk

(23:00):
seven ninety Rosby Aria with you. Follow me on Instagram
at sports RV if you don't mind, I really would
appreciate it. You and I put up the picture of
the black bear that I ran into at Big Bend.

Speaker 1 (23:11):
If you want to go ahead and check those out,
get some video as well. Rossed or maul him or
injure him. Apparently I didn't know this until after my encounter.
There's never been a black bear mauling in the history
of that park that you.

Speaker 2 (23:23):
Oh, okay, I was gonna say they did they document
such a thing? Yeah, well, yes, they know the bears
that are in the park. Now mountain lions. There have
been mountain lion attacks. And they also say if you
see or hear the mountain lion, it's too late, So
good luck with bath.

Speaker 1 (23:37):
Wait a minute, what Yeah, the mountain lion will mountain
lion will not want to be will not be seen
unless it wants to be see.

Speaker 2 (23:44):
Your idea of roughing it is to survive a mountain
lion attack. No, I'm not trying to survive my My
idea roughing is not having room service at the hotel.
I don't want to go out there and be like, hey,
I can't wait to tangle with a mountain lion. Now,
I want to go see in trees and wonderful animals
and avoid the mountain lions. Okay, So your idea of
a vacation avoiding mountain lions me being able to dial

(24:08):
six and order eggs.

Speaker 1 (24:09):
Benterdicted up to the ruin.

Speaker 2 (24:10):
That's fine, your fancy Matt, you get a long trip
to Toronto by the way tomorrow. So you don't like
being out in the frontier or camping, This is why
you're not qualified to be mister Texas. Uh no, because
there's plenty of places I've been to. Mister Texas. Can't
pitch a timp not talking about what you're talking about either.
You don't know what I can't pitch. So a way

(24:33):
to kiss as to a coach is to say, hey,
what do you think about everybody saying these things about
you after a win?

Speaker 1 (24:41):
After a win? That's how you kiss as to a coach.
Uh huh. So anybody that asked that is trying to
get in with a coach. You know, buddy, buddy wink wink,
I got your back. I'm trying to set them up.
I'm not your I'm not the media guy that's ever criticized.
You need just kind of just.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
Being it's an elementary question for it's not a very
bright media person.

Speaker 1 (25:04):
Well, I didn't catch the press conference. I don't know who.

Speaker 2 (25:06):
I kind of have an idea now the way that
you're framing this, Well, if I gave you one guess
and one guess only who said it, you'd probably be right.

Speaker 1 (25:13):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
So the question was like, how do you block out
the noise? That's why it played quiet, right, And here
is Demiko Ryan discussing the noise around people criticizing the
team's play so far this season.

Speaker 3 (25:28):
Really doesn't matter about outside noise, and we hear a
lot of that.

Speaker 7 (25:31):
Every time you lose, everybody wants to come up with
something of get rid.

Speaker 3 (25:36):
Of everybody fire everybody.

Speaker 7 (25:38):
Lose a game, you go out, don't play well, Well,
it was just the noise is just a lot of
people who don't know what they're talking about. Because here
in this room, as a team, we stick together as
a team and we know it's only about us, right,
and you never let the outside noise creep in and
control who we are. We know who we are, we
know what we're about, we know the formula. We know

(25:59):
what it takes to go win games, and we just
understand that outside noise is just noise. We would never
go ask anybody who's given the noise. We would never
go ask them their opinion about how the game plan
or how to play football. So we keep that in
house and we go we press forward, and we go
out and play good football.

Speaker 3 (26:16):
That's what it's about.

Speaker 1 (26:17):
There you go. So he's not gonna call you at home,
moneies and gentlemen ask your advice about whether or not
they should have gone over left guard of two straight
times against Seattle on third and one and fourth and one.
So he doesn't listen to the noise. But did he
ever say that? No, did he not say that?

Speaker 2 (26:31):
Okay, good, I don't think he said that, because he's
saying the noise comes from the people.

Speaker 1 (26:35):
We wouldn't ask.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
I'm like, okay, people are like yeah, you know, the
people are doesn't make any sense. So there is a
fine line to this, Okay. Number one, if you're a
part of a team, you should not listen to sports radio.
You should not read message boards, you should not listen
to TV shows. But they're all over the place. Now

(26:56):
you can you can avoid sports radio because you have
a satellite video, you have your iPod, you have your phone,
you have a ceting easyment if you're even so inclined.
But if you're a sports fan and you're a coach,
you're not spending a lot of time. Look at the
Hallmark channel. You're going to run into some things that
you see on television talking about your squad. Every day,

(27:20):
team of public relations apartments put together a clip service.
They google their name and anything that comes up, there's
a PR, usually an intern or a lower ENDPR person
will cut and paste it and then send it out
to the clips to usually the head coach, the general manager,
and the ownership group. They want to know everything that
is being talked about them everything. So if Domiico takes

(27:45):
that note package and throws it in the trash, then
he's not reading anything. But my guess is tomko Is,
if he's having some launch or something, is just going
to want to see what's going out there and what
is being said. So in that respect to Meko, I
understand why you don't want to listen to that. And
I said the same thing about that with the ask
in the rockets to a lesser extent, but the noise,

(28:06):
this team is still unders underperforming. This team made a
change at offensive coordinator, and I don't know if you
want to include yesterday, but up until yesterday it certainly
didn't pan out and hasn't panned out. This team has
had deficiencies in one particular category, and that was on
the offensive line. And again yesterday it was significantly better

(28:28):
than it was in previous weeks. But again you had
two key members of the Niners defense that were injured,
two game changer type players in Warner and in Bosa.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
I think that is an important caveat.

Speaker 2 (28:38):
So my argument with NFL coaches has been and it's
not just a miko, but it's more in the NFL
than anything else. They like the noise when they hear
about how great their teams are, but they get uber
defensive when somebody says, what are you doing on this
play call? Because more so than any other they're coaching fraternity.

(29:02):
The NFL college coach puts themselves in the quote unquote building,
shuts the door and locks it and doesn't come out
to breathe until the game is over or the season
is over with, So they don't understand that life does
go on and people can say, hey, that was an
awesome game, that was an awesome win, or man, what
were they doing?

Speaker 1 (29:22):
So I what I you know?

Speaker 2 (29:25):
And I am guilty of this with my wife all
the time. When my wife and I argue about things,
I am the king of you should have said this instead.
If we ever in disagreement, I'll say, well, if you
if you would have said it this way, I would
have understood it a lot better. And I think that's
because I'm in the communications business. If Mike the question
was posed to me, what do you think about the noise?

(29:48):
You should have said, which is what I would have said.
I said, Hey, look, I know people aren't happy. We're
disappointed too. Everybody's in title of their opinion. We're really
focused on really really, really good in here, and we're
going to keep getting better, and we believe in our guys.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
We're going to keep on.

Speaker 3 (30:03):
It can't.

Speaker 2 (30:04):
There was just too much of a tinge of we
don't care what you think. And I'm not a fan
of that under any circumstances matter. If a coach says it,
a general manager, or a player says it, I think
we don't care what you think. Is a little off putting.
Not a lot off putting, but just a little bit.

Speaker 1 (30:17):
I get it. But also he.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
I think he wanted to make his point, and he
made his point is that there are people who are
talking heads and we're in front of these microphones as well.
You're not a football coach. I'm not a football coach.
But also we don't sell that we're football coaches. We
just give our opinions about the team. And if he
wants to make the point that y'all don't know football
and all that time, he's not the first coach to

(30:41):
do that, he won't be the last coach to do
I got news for you to make problem with what
he said. The problem is is that there are people
that have played football, that have coached football, that are
watching this going I don't like what y'all are doing.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
Absolutely, so you have to answer to those everybody. Yeah, yeah, so,
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (30:57):
Not been good and quite frankly, your three wins are
against teams. The Titans defense is horrible. The Ravens defense
was missing a bunch of people, some of who they
they're slowly getting back and some who are still out
and in the forty nine ers, as you mentioned, are
missing two of their two of the best defensive players
on the planet, and they were dropping like flies yesterday. Yeah,
and they also had multiple injuries during the game. So look,

(31:18):
I may say yesterday was a good win. I'm not
going to dismiss that under any circuit it was. But
I just again, i'm a very how do you say
it kind of person It means a lot more than
what maybe the intended overall inintendant messages. I just I
don't I don't want a person of authority to tell
somebody you don't know what you're talking. Yeah, but see

(31:40):
we crush him when he gives us coach speak, and
then when he kind of gives us a little flair,
little personality.

Speaker 1 (31:44):
I mean, I like it. I think it's honest.

Speaker 2 (31:46):
See again, my point is and this is this is
me being who I am. I would have thought there
was a better way to phrase it without saying that
by but also not going you don't tell your talk.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
I want to say, I don't know football.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
And you know what, if a head coach was getting
criticized just wants to win a game, in a statement
game against a good team, he wants to say.

Speaker 1 (32:03):
Y'all don't know football.

Speaker 2 (32:04):
So next week when if they do lose to Denver,
we're not allowed.

Speaker 1 (32:08):
To speak about what wrong we are. We're gonna get hey,
we're gonna keep talking. Yeah, yeah, No, Jamaica, you can't
tell me how about the other contract. Look, he ain't
worried about us.

Speaker 2 (32:15):
No, he's probably more looking at the stephen A's than
the other folks. That Again, he's in his office, he's
putting television on. He's not putting on HGTV. He's watching sports.
I don't flip this house. That good stuff. No, h
he might do it, but it made me in July. Okay,
he's focusing. He's got any spon in his room. Casarah's

(32:36):
got an Espano and in television his room. He We just
know these guys, we do all right. Seven one three
two one two five seven. I need to tell the
truth is coming up in about to forty five minutes
to Miko is going to speak at eleven fifteen, and
we'll see if there's any dumb ask questions from media
that think they're really media. Seven one three two one
two five seven nine East. So at this point last

(32:58):
week I had probably four or five Texans phone calls
locked in a little already done about how bad things now?
It was a week ago yet tomorrow because it wasn't
my mon the nine game?

Speaker 3 (33:09):
Right?

Speaker 1 (33:10):
Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah. You're saying people call in more
when they lose, and I feel like I throw that
at you four times a year, so let this be
the first of four or maybe even second of four times.

Speaker 4 (33:24):
Is that?

Speaker 1 (33:25):
That's my thought? Is we're human nature on that we
don't ever come.

Speaker 2 (33:28):
We never We never write an airline to a tweet
or send them an email when the service on a
flight is bad is good. We only do it when
we got screwed our flight, our boss, baggage, the rude
flight attendant, the TSA. We never complain about a restaurant
we go to. That's why iways going when I when
I look at YELP, I treat them with a grain
of salt because there may be five hundred great restaurant appearances,

(33:53):
ten people may have had lots of experiences.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
Who am I to believe tech? When the Texans win,
it's uh know what they're supposed to do?

Speaker 2 (34:04):
Yeah, umpire gets ninety nine calls right, Hey, we're supposed
to do right?

Speaker 1 (34:09):
Get one wrong?

Speaker 2 (34:09):
Hey, what the hell is going on here, and of
course they're not supposed to win every game. So what
I will do is this, I will politely the expectation.
I will politely ask our great audience. Your football team
won a very good football game yesterday. They looked really complete. Now,
probably could have been a bigger margin, but you know what,
we're not going to over fight over this. Uh, your

(34:33):
defense played to a playoff level. Will Anderson could taste
the breath of he could he knew what he had
for breakfast of Mac Jones. Yeah, it's like Mac Yeah,
Mac Jones. Brush your tea bro cinnamon toast crunch.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
Huh would you do? Something is wrong when you started this?

Speaker 2 (35:00):
Matt started it first of all, number one, Chelse and
chili before the game back number two with beans. Uh yeah,
Mac Jones under two hundred yards, Christian McCaffrey eight carries
for twenty five yards. They weren't even on the field
in the first half. So my point is it was
a forty four and change they had for the first
thirty minutes. Right, Yeah, your squad won a football game.
It's time to celebrate. Seven one three two one two

(35:22):
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven I know we've got people that love the Texans,
that had their Texans flag on the back of their truck,
that are wearing Texans gear all the way through, that
cannot wait to dial up this radio show and talk
about how happy they wore. The team bounced back seven
one three, two, one two five seven nine. Okay, I'll
talk about something I'm happy about. What he marks eleven

(35:44):
carries for sixty two yards. There was also a couple
of runs. There was one run to the right side,
I think, where he kind of like threw a little
shoulder shake to try to get through a whole, like
he was showing like a little extra. There was another
run where he kind of he he stuck for a
beat like prime leveon bell right to let the blocks
set up, found his hole and then he gained some

(36:05):
extra like That's the thing that one of the things
that we've talked about that Joe Mixon does better than
some other guys is he makes yards where there are none.
And I thought on a few of those runs, Woody
marks made yards where there are none, and that's when
you have a plus running back. So some flashes not
saying he's there yet, work in progress all that stuff,
but I was encouraged by a couple of those runs

(36:27):
from Woody Marks.

Speaker 1 (36:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (36:28):
I don't think you're ready to make him a franchise
running back, maybe not even ready to make him an
RB one, but he's done enough that he should be
getting a fair number of snaps per week. And I
think that's for a guy that was a middle round
draft pick. Ross, that's all you should be asking for
at this point. Yeah, you knew coming out he was
a pass catch a great pass catcher. He led all
of college football. I believe it was in receiving yards
for running backs with USC. So we're still seeing that

(36:50):
four catches for forty nine yards, but also some of
the running that he was doing.

Speaker 1 (36:53):
I was impressed by. All Right, Justin is happy about
the Texas performance. Justin, you're on seven ninety, good morning,
good morning man.

Speaker 6 (37:00):
That you should be getting a third number of stamps
per weekend. I think that's.

Speaker 1 (37:06):
Sorry. Yeah, yeah, good morning, a.

Speaker 6 (37:09):
Great path, Good morning college football.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
I believe it was a receipt, Hey, Justin, do me
a favorite Turner too late? Oh damn it, you had
something Turner's radio. Don't steal the bit. I'm not stealing it.
Don't now, don't preclude, don't give out the magic trick.
That's a magic guy liked you. Yeah, but with the
world like a twenty second delay, the magic trick takes
a little longer. For those of you that don't know.

Speaker 2 (37:32):
That was a classic case of justin listening to the
radio and listening to me at the exact same time,
and if you did not notice, uh, there is a
significant delay between the two.

Speaker 1 (37:41):
I love this twenty twenty five. That still happens, beautiful.

Speaker 2 (37:45):
Because we used to we used to teach our producers
turn your sound down on your phone. I've told Jonathan
not to mention that just for those situations, just like that, JOHNA.
We've we've we've we've lots of people to try to
We've send them turn turn the radio up, and it's
just it's caused a lot of issues, a lot of confusion,

(38:06):
screaming at the microphone, screaming at their phone, making bad
driving decisions.

Speaker 1 (38:10):
No, we don't make any accidents or anything, but m
h all right, uh Ross, we do have a plethora
of Texans happy phone callers on the line. Who do
you want to go to next?

Speaker 5 (38:20):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (38:21):
I don't know what you're looking at maybe my my
software is off, it's I see empty.

Speaker 2 (38:26):
Okay, we'll ask again then, okay, happy Texans fans may
call and discuss your squad winning yesterday. Okay, happy A
and M fans can discuss how autome you basically got
a coach fired, longhorned fan. What I don't want to
do this to you, ROSSI, but collectively college football is really.

Speaker 1 (38:48):
Pissed Assissippi State. They should have won the game? Correct?
Why on't they have double digits late in the contest?
So what twenty seven something?

Speaker 4 (38:55):
That?

Speaker 2 (38:56):
What was the biggest episode in how he was seventeen
in the fourth quarter? Arch Manning rows above everything. Yeah,
we can talk about this. I know that he's not
gonna maybe get the love. Arch Manning was slanging that
thing like he he was looking legit. Now I know
the football miss yes with spot spirals. All season long,

(39:20):
we've been seeing a lot of ducks flutter in the wind.

Speaker 1 (39:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (39:24):
I was like, oh my gosh, is maybe he's getting healthier.
Maybe he is just maybe just there was no very
little pressure when there when you're down seventeen, you're like,
we're gonna lose anyways in the fourth quarter, but he
he was. He was slaying the football better than I've
than I've ever seen him. I'll just put it that way.
Can we hear from sark about his answer to his

(39:45):
texash in on other NFL teams and whatnot.

Speaker 1 (39:48):
We'll do that coming back in the second hour the
Tomas Show. Well, we'll find it. We got about three minutes.

Speaker 3 (39:53):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (39:53):
Look on Twitter. Uh, we'll get to hear Dimiko. Ryan's
coming up in fifteen minutes as well. It's a Matt
Thomas Show with Ross seven one, three, two on two
five sevenies. He's the mac Thomas Show with Ross.

Speaker 1 (40:09):
All right, So Brian Kelly is out. Willie Fritz is
a cougar for life. Mike Elko was the best value
that A and M's ever had as they remain undefeated.
The Texans with a win, Rockets looking for their first
win World Series Game number three tonight in Los Angeles
between the Dodgers and the Blue Jays and Steve Sarkisian
with a gutsy, gritty come from behind victory against Mississippi State.

(40:34):
You get to go to your backup quarterback in overtime?

Speaker 3 (40:36):
How was he?

Speaker 2 (40:37):
Matthew Caldwell, He's fine, not great. He threw one pass.
They ran, they ran the ball, got touchdown. They ran
the ball for the most part, got a touchdown and
won the game. All right, so after the game. Uh,
and we should set this up before the game. Before
the game. Diana Rassini, formerly of ESPN with the Athletic Now,

(40:57):
I believe, I believe that is accurate. Matter of fact,
let me let me do this a favor because I
want to read it. You get the exact yeah, just
because I don't want to embellish anything that what was said.
So this is Diana Recini, by the way, follow me
on Instagram at at sports.

Speaker 3 (41:13):
Oh my god, what.

Speaker 1 (41:18):
Go ahead, let's see I'm going back here, back here
that she didn't ever race it, did she? Let's say here?
I don't think so? Oh here it is. This is
one day ago. You got the time? No, hold on,
keep talking for a few more seconds. Okay.

Speaker 2 (41:34):
So there was a report from Diana Rassini that there
have been some interest from Steve Sarkisian.

Speaker 1 (41:40):
She's a lot a lot of her tweets. I don't
follow her. A lot of her tweets are I've been
told why I'm hearing o heay, please read it. There
nine five am.

Speaker 2 (41:50):
This would be the twenty fifth, which is Saturday, correct,
So basically before a few hours before the Texas Longhorns
game against Mississippi State. I'm told that represented for Texas
coach Steve Sarkisin had left NFL decision maker have let
NFL decision makers know that he would be interested in
a potential head in potential head coach openings, including the Titans.

(42:12):
All right, so way back in the day, ROSSI, when
journalism meant something in sports, for that matter, news, you
had to confirm that with two to three people, unless
it was the person directly telling you.

Speaker 1 (42:21):
Now, Diana Versini, I don't remember. She got a bunch
of stuff wrong.

Speaker 2 (42:24):
She doesn't seem unreliable, don't know, but Diana Rossini is
a national recognized name that she prides herself on being
in the know on things.

Speaker 1 (42:35):
Now, if this was.

Speaker 2 (42:37):
A guy at the Marriott that was serving the food
and he happened to see the word Tennessee Titans on
a piece of paper that coach sark wrote down, then
that's not confirmed.

Speaker 1 (42:48):
All some of those guys know stuff too. They probably do.

Speaker 2 (42:51):
Point being is this I think in the Twitter world,
you don't have to do that as much so, if
Diana Rossini got a phone call from somebody that she trust.
Could be the agent, could be the front of the agent.
It could be the administrative assistant to the agent. It
could be one of Starkesian's golfing buddies, it could be

(43:12):
somebody that went to high school with who knows.

Speaker 1 (43:13):
She's not going to give that up.

Speaker 2 (43:15):
But I would assume if Rossini wants to keep her
integrity and wants to keep her mark as an NFL
reporter and a person that gets information, she's not going
to flippantly put that out there. I agree. I don't
think there's no reason for her to just make this up.

(43:35):
First of all, I don't know if the Titans would
be interested. Second of all, why would you go from
a top five branded college program with everything you want
to basically a poverty stricken Tennessee Titans organization?

Speaker 1 (43:47):
And I honest the.

Speaker 2 (43:47):
NFL, I would say, especially these days with this nil
and transferportal mess the NFL, the college football has always
been the bigger headache.

Speaker 1 (43:58):
But it's even worse it is now.

Speaker 2 (44:00):
So after the game Againssissippi State Steve Sarkisian was asked
a question about that in Here is his response.

Speaker 8 (44:07):
I'd love to touch on this, so bear with me
for a second.

Speaker 9 (44:10):
Because it really pisses me off that one person can
make a report that, in turn, the entire media sports
world runs with as factual.

Speaker 8 (44:24):
To the point of my.

Speaker 9 (44:25):
Agency and my agents have to put a statement out
that they never have done historically, Cia, Jimmy Sex and
Ed Mannolis have.

Speaker 8 (44:33):
Never do that.

Speaker 9 (44:35):
But I had to do that to protect my locker
room and my team, and I thought it was absolutely ridiculous.
I thought it was completely unprofessional of that person to
put that report out, and the fact that everybody ran
with it is borderline embarrassing for the media. And I
respect what you guys do, I really do and everybody else,
but the fact that everybody ran that as truth is

(44:55):
really embarrassing.

Speaker 8 (44:56):
Okay, So I've got a small circle when I make.

Speaker 9 (44:58):
Decisions on what I do what I don't do, and
nobody would speak on my behalf without me knowing, And
so where that report came from, I'd love to.

Speaker 8 (45:07):
Talk to that person because it's absolutely ridiculous.

Speaker 1 (45:10):
Hmm, Okay, a couple of things. Your lip is quivering now,
it's not true. Now, remember Racini isn't Jim Bob Joe
from the Austin Times or from even something like an
on three or Rivals or a Longhorn Nation or goofy
stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (45:31):
It's Dina Rassini. It's the athletic, reputable people. Diana's been
in the world of the NFL, and as I've told
you for I don't know how many years, ROSSI people lie.

Speaker 1 (45:43):
First thing, Okay.

Speaker 2 (45:44):
Did you hear a did you hear an out and
out denial in that? I heard they're running with this
as the truth without saying it's not the truth.

Speaker 1 (45:58):
I heard there.

Speaker 2 (45:58):
They're putting this there. I didn't hear an out and
out this is not true. I am not looking for
jobs in the NFL. The University of Texas is my
dream job and I want to be here for the
rest of my life.

Speaker 1 (46:09):
Did you hear any of that? I did not.

Speaker 2 (46:11):
I did not hear any Now we don't have the
entire press conference. They could have very well true.

Speaker 1 (46:16):
Perhaps it was in one sound bite, maybe.

Speaker 2 (46:18):
You're missing it. Another thing, do you feel like there's
a direct correlation between the amount of times somebody pounds
the table denying something and how guilty they are.

Speaker 1 (46:33):
I learned that from Rafael Palmaro exactly.

Speaker 2 (46:38):
I just feel in general, the more you come out
emphatically against something, as you mentioned Rafael Palmerrow, we can
go to I don't know, Lance Armstrong suing his accusers,
any number of examples.

Speaker 1 (46:52):
Bill Clinton, Oh Bill, sure, why not?

Speaker 10 (46:55):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (46:56):
Nick Saban, I'm gonna tell you right now, I'm not
going to be the head for bull coach at Alabama.

Speaker 2 (47:02):
I mean, he's absolutely looking in the NFL. There's no
reason for Diana Rassini to make this up. And I'm
gonna tell you it's all one of those situations where
we're all looking for the guy who did this, and
it's probably was Jimmy Sexton because it's it's win win
for Jimmy. Jimmy sex has been playing this game a
long time.

Speaker 3 (47:21):
Matt.

Speaker 1 (47:22):
You know that.

Speaker 2 (47:22):
Yes, he's had a lot of these big names. He
orchestrated the Nick Saban floated to the Texas Longhorns. People
say that was vetoed by Mac Brown, so maybe there
was true to that or whatever, but it's win win.
He knows that because either a Steve Sarkisian who just
got re up by Texas in January by the way
is gonna get even more money for Texas or b.

(47:44):
This is signaling to NFL teams if they're interested, to
go ahead and contact him, because he might be interested
as well, and that's gonna help them out. It's win
win for Jimmy Sexton. And then they have to release
his statement that probably was I'm gonna guess that Steve
Sarkisian isn't happy that this was leaked out at this
moment because he is trying to you have to keep

(48:06):
a locker room, and especially in twenty twenty, when people
can get just they can in a transferportal basically about
anytime they want, you have to keep your locker room
in college football.

Speaker 1 (48:15):
So I'm not saying that this was him, but also
this was This was not made up.

Speaker 3 (48:19):
I don't think.

Speaker 2 (48:20):
Can I give you the overly simplistic thought when as
soon as I heard hurt All, this was so you
Texas fans are not happy with how we're playing this year.

Speaker 1 (48:30):
Oh you really think I'm not very good? Huh, Well,
guess who wants me? NFL teams the Tennessee time. You
know what, Okay, that could very well be true as well.
That's how I interpret it. As is that if you
don't like me, guess somebody else does.

Speaker 2 (48:44):
Look sark is a good coach, and I remember the
darker times, and this is the thing, and this is
what's happening. This is happening at LSU, it's happening at
Penn State, it's happening basically everywhere. You have a guy
who's they've lost two games this year, and all of
a sudden, he's the worst coach ever. He's a bad
play caller. They need to restart, and people are calling

(49:05):
not it hasn't been The drum beat isn't very loud
calling for Steve Sarkisian's head.

Speaker 1 (49:10):
But there's not love luck.

Speaker 2 (49:11):
He normally gets what if they lost that game, which
quite frankly, they got lucky to win that game on Saturday,
the drum beat would have gotten louder I that's I
don't think he's looking for more money, although the agent
always looks for more money. I think it was, Oh,
you're not happy with what's going on here, Well, guess
what other bunch of people would love.

Speaker 1 (49:28):
To see me run their football program. Let's hear from
Dimiico next at eleven twelve on Sports Talk seven nine
Jamaico is gonna speak here in a matter of moments.
When he does, you will hear it. We believe we'll
have to tell the truth coming up. The presumption is
all around eleven thirty, give or take. Will we hear any
dumb ass sucking questions to kiss? Ask them to the

(49:49):
Texans head coach?

Speaker 3 (49:50):
Wow?

Speaker 1 (49:50):
Yes, Hey, Okay, Matt h really Monday? Huh No, I'm
just I just ask a questions. The answer will be no.
Nice for coffee, I'm feeling better? Are you cole Brew?
A regular?

Speaker 11 (50:05):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (50:05):
I already drank Mike col Brew. Now I'm having some
real regular coffee. That's bad, A little two extra caffeine.
I it's feel a little stuffy. I don't know, man,
allergies or what. Yeah, I got a super large tea
today from Rock Oroana, So I'm gonna be rolling jack boys.

Speaker 1 (50:18):
Make got our route forty four over there?

Speaker 3 (50:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (50:20):
Or is it a root forty four? That's a good question.
Route sixty six? Uh? Yeah, I think it's that's where
you get your kicks. Yeah, it's gotta be roote Okay.

Speaker 2 (50:30):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven nine zero if
you want to visit with us through the Twitter verse,
you may do that as well at sports MPT, at
sports Irvy, and of course our Instagram accounts are at
sports r V and.

Speaker 3 (50:45):
At sports empty.

Speaker 1 (50:46):
You're the best.

Speaker 2 (50:47):
I did show photos of the quick trip to Tempeo
over the weekend, so it was fun early that. I
think I was gone twenty one hours total, okay, but
it was well worth At Cougar's one in Arizona State,
surprise folks, and yeah seven to one. Let's screes the
line on that game, Arizona State six and a half,
I think, okay, right now, right?

Speaker 3 (51:06):
Uh yeah?

Speaker 1 (51:07):
In the top twenty five.

Speaker 2 (51:08):
Yeah, I'm not a big person of the ranking things,
but I know a lot of people do get there,
you know, excited about that. The number one rankings to
me is well, how the Big twelve standings look at
the end of the year. Yeah, it's good to be
back in the top twenty five. It's easier to find
your when your college football team falls out of the
top twenty five and you got to go to that
extra tab when you're going to look at the scores, Yeah,
I can't do.

Speaker 1 (51:26):
I gotta go there real quick because it hurts. We're
looking to kill a little timer.

Speaker 2 (51:31):
Before Demiico speaks, the Arizona State fans were not happy
with some of the fisherrating calls.

Speaker 1 (51:37):
They started throwing water bottles on the field. I mean,
really expensive ones. Why would they do that?

Speaker 2 (51:42):
What a classic sand So basically that's the warning, right
if they had done it again, would that have been
the one hundred thousand dollars fine and the fifteen yeard punds?
I guess so, because tell me water bottles tortillas is
the same thing, basically, right.

Speaker 1 (51:52):
I mean, I think the tortilla hit hard more as
it did that in the Georgia game, of course, yeah,
a couple of years ago. Yeah, what again?

Speaker 3 (52:00):
Was it last year?

Speaker 2 (52:01):
I gotta be honest. If I got a water bottle
and I'm mad about something, I'm just gonna drink. I'm
just not gonna throw on the field those water bottles
eight nine dollars a pop. I can't afford to be
throwing eight dollars bottles on the field, yeah, because you're
throwing empty bottles and doing good. Gouging of the water bottles,
by the way, is about not as low as it gets,
but it feels like it. There should not be a
water bottle sold for more than two dollars in any

(52:22):
of these stadiums.

Speaker 1 (52:23):
Well, how about this.

Speaker 2 (52:23):
People are hydrate and you're gouging them. This is the
one I get pissed off about. Parking. Oh, if I'm
going to your stadium, I'm not walking there. Yes, I mean,
I guess I could uber, But you're basically I met
your whim to how much you're going to pay.

Speaker 1 (52:40):
How much I'm gonna pay?

Speaker 3 (52:41):
Gouge?

Speaker 1 (52:42):
Can gouge bad? There you are saying no, yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 2 (52:45):
I mean if you wanted to say, okay, parking's five
dollars so we have to maintain the area, I could
live with that or even ten. Yeah, but there are lots,
and this is all the sports teams in town. This
is not just in our There's just sports teams across America.
Seventy five, one hundred hundred. I mean, look at those
the astros were charged during the playoff times on hundred
and fifty hours of park I know, now some of
those six block away and bring your rollerblades. Now, some

(53:05):
of those lots are not most of the lots are
not owned by the teams. But I'm presuming an Energy stadium.
That's their stadium, that's their lot. There's really no other.

Speaker 1 (53:13):
You can't park down the street where the old Marcos
was because they'd tell your ass from there. You got
to get there early. You can find your secret parking.

Speaker 2 (53:21):
You can't park at the Radison Hotel Madison Hotel because
they're gonna pull your you're stuck.

Speaker 1 (53:28):
Yeah, they go to the Extended Stay downtown.

Speaker 2 (53:30):
That was the greatest thing about the Summit was that
when you went to a Rockets game way back in
the day. Now this is also thirty plus years ago,
you didn't pay the park. Now you're getting gouged. It's
a different time, Matt. Get those profits up, baby, let's
go well. I mean it's revenue, I get it. But
I just feel like that's the one area that you know,
would be nicer if they would not just crush you,

(53:53):
and yet they do.

Speaker 1 (53:55):
It's not gonna stop. It's only gonna get worse.

Speaker 3 (53:57):
Matt.

Speaker 1 (53:57):
Alright, I'm killing time here. We got any lucky on
Domico talking earlier. Right now, I still got this graphic going.
All right, we'll get to it. I promise it'll be amazing.
We got to tell the truth. Coming up about in
the hour should be great. You don't know that. Usually
you rip on it. That's not true.

Speaker 3 (54:12):
Not usually.

Speaker 1 (54:12):
Last time I think you were, you were free and clear.
I thought those are some decent opinions. Oh no, no,
I was when I was I was on my vacation.
But then I guess I guessed it immediately when I
came back. It was the next save one, right, Yeah,
the other ones are good.

Speaker 12 (54:28):
I told him he shouldn't put it number one if
you put the other like if you put this, I'm
trying to.

Speaker 1 (54:31):
Rotate around and tell you you go out a lot,
which you'll be out tomorrow and Thursday. It's it's a
hard it's it's a hard segment to come up with
good ones. Yeah, cause I sit here because I was here, I.

Speaker 2 (54:41):
Kicked my feet up like Alex Trabeck with all the
answers or I guess the resverse of that. But and
I'm like, oh man, these are terrible, and then when
I have to come up with them, it's different, the
only different. And look, Alex Trebeka, you didn't ask this
about this, but he was a top five all time
host really maybe top seven, but he came across as
kind of arrogant When you got the.

Speaker 1 (54:59):
Answer, He's like, what are you dumb ass?

Speaker 3 (55:01):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (55:02):
I mean you had the answer in front of you exactly,
why don't you go try to you go something the
contestant side for twenty minutes to see how it goes right.
Jeopardy can make you feel stupid. I know, like there's
all the history of game shows. You know, I'm a
game show for the kids. When I crushed that one,
oh I rock and roll Jeopardy, I said, okay, but
point pining, is that you a celebrity Jeopardy? I crush Yes,

(55:22):
black Jeopardy, I love, I bet I can't play. Okay,
you're cute.

Speaker 3 (55:26):
All right, we got it up.

Speaker 1 (55:27):
Here's here we go. We get clipped that for yourself.
Here's the make go.

Speaker 3 (55:30):
Everybody can run with the.

Speaker 7 (55:31):
Guy and also locate the ball then getting the ball
up please see in terms of when it's up there
that he's going to go.

Speaker 3 (55:37):
And Camar's doing a great job of really.

Speaker 7 (55:41):
Really working this technique right and coverage of being able to,
you know, not just find the ball, but be on
the receiver, find a way to look up for the
football to come down with it. That's a really nice play.
He's made here in our stadium two times this year.
He's been tried down the sideline, he went up and
made the play. So really proud of just his growth

(56:02):
and development. He's doing a great job for us.

Speaker 3 (56:04):
I mean, go, where is uh Nico contact in the concussion?

Speaker 7 (56:07):
Yeah, we'll see how he go, how he progresses throughout
the week with a with a concussion protocol.

Speaker 1 (56:14):
What is it about the the defense that has made
it an effective this season?

Speaker 7 (56:19):
I mean, I think the defense, uh, first and foremost
guys are they're swarming to the football, they play fast,
they play physical. That's the that's the first first thing
that allows you to play good defense. And you know
we're getting off the field on third down. I think
that's really been the key, uh to limit drives that
offense is trying to do, trying to drive the ball down.

Speaker 3 (56:41):
But defense is doing a great job getting.

Speaker 7 (56:43):
Off on third down, causing havoc up front and guy's
doing a good job when the coverage is right and
guys where we're supposed to be.

Speaker 3 (56:50):
It's really tough alright to make a play on us.

Speaker 1 (56:52):
Who beneficial was the offense for the defense yesterday?

Speaker 3 (56:56):
Kind of getting sustaining.

Speaker 7 (56:57):
Those drives, and I mean we all played collectively together
as a team, offense defense. Everybody fed off of each other,
and that's how it should look. Offense did a good
job controlling the game again, man winning third down, allowing
them to stay on the field, ran football effectively, made
great decisions with the football from the quarterback position.

Speaker 3 (57:18):
Just play really efficient offense.

Speaker 6 (57:20):
Well.

Speaker 13 (57:20):
If the younger players have mentioned the work confidence and
how they feel like their confidence.

Speaker 3 (57:24):
Is growing, Jager Hutchinson was one of them. Where do
you typically see.

Speaker 13 (57:28):
Confidence manifest itself outside of game days? Are there moments
in meetings or practice where you could see a guy's
confidence growing.

Speaker 7 (57:37):
And confidence comes from right doing your job the right way,
executing it on the practice field, doing it, seeing the
success from doing it the proper way, doing it the
way your coaches are asking you to do it, and
you show up in the game and you perform that
technique the exact same way, and you take the coaching
points that your coach has given you and you do

(57:58):
it in the game and you make plays.

Speaker 3 (58:00):
I think that's what gives guys confidence. Pretty look to
see the opportunities to improve in rent zone efficiency, getting
the end zone.

Speaker 7 (58:08):
We we got down in the red zone a few
times and we kind of stalled, stalled out.

Speaker 3 (58:13):
Right a couple of negative plays.

Speaker 7 (58:16):
But we can do a better job of just you know,
keeping our foot on the gas and being more productive.
A great job of getting in the red zone, and
Emmy did a great job of really finishing those drive
with points, but we want to finish those drives with
seven if possible.

Speaker 14 (58:30):
Look like when you guys ran the traps, get the draws,
thinks that needs to really really effective against the nunder's defense.

Speaker 10 (58:38):
What just kind of went into making those plays effective?

Speaker 7 (58:41):
I think our offensive offensive guys did a great job
of his game planning and putting our guys in position
them have successful plays, and the players did a good
job of executing those plays.

Speaker 15 (58:52):
A big play like the one that CJ throws to
Woody in the flat, how much sure you looking at it?
Like making sure that the guys out front did their
job turn it from a twenty thirty yard player into
a fifty yard play.

Speaker 7 (59:04):
The most exciting part about that play and CEEJ made
a great decision.

Speaker 3 (59:07):
Woody catches the ball you know in the flat.

Speaker 7 (59:10):
But to see our receivers finishing downfield finishing their blocks training.
That's the most exciting part of that play for me.
And that's what it's what it looks like. You have
to take advantage when the defensive they dropped the they
dropped the back and coverage, and we made them pay.
That's what football is all about, right, making guys pay
when they do make a mistake.

Speaker 3 (59:28):
We did that and we came up with an explosive
play there.

Speaker 15 (59:31):
The Woody plays unfolding as so basically right from you
are you immediately looking at to see who's out front
and doing their job.

Speaker 7 (59:38):
No, you can feel I can feel those guys. I
see Woody coming at me, and I can feel the guys,
feel the receivers working. It was Hutching, Hutching, Higgins. They
were down there just training to try to finish their blocks,
just for coach.

Speaker 16 (59:51):
When pushing away outside noise, I know that was a
topic yesterday.

Speaker 3 (59:55):
What are the challenges and is there a.

Speaker 16 (59:56):
Bounce between like positive outside noise and give outside noise.

Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
No, it really doesn't matter. Man. Here you can see
it's a lot of negative talk about us. We get it.

Speaker 7 (01:00:06):
I hear people try to give it to me all
the time. I get it right, Like but it really
doesn't matter. Right, and again, I talk about it. Everybody
wants to write a hot story, and most of the
time it's negative stuff that people want to talk about.
A right, nobody wants to talk about the positive stuff
that happens. And again, if you feed off of that
and you're riding the pendulum of oh, we're great because

(01:00:28):
we want know we suck because we lost fight.

Speaker 3 (01:00:31):
Like that's our business. I get it, And but that's
what that's the nature of it. We keep moving forward.

Speaker 7 (01:00:38):
Really, it doesn't drive anything. It means nothing, literally nothing
to what we're about. Like, it does nothing to drive
our team. We just got to go out and play
good football.

Speaker 11 (01:00:49):
You don't think you've gotten any positive stuff, Like, you
don't think you've gotten any praise at all.

Speaker 3 (01:00:56):
Guy, it's what's your questioning.

Speaker 7 (01:01:00):
Everybody says negative, I said, I said, that's what people
thrive on, is the negative stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:01:07):
You don't think you've gotten any positive.

Speaker 3 (01:01:10):
I said, people thrive on the negative. You guys are good.

Speaker 7 (01:01:14):
You guys must be the one with the negative stuff.
We're playing football. You talk about outside noise. I say
it again, it doesn't matter good, bad, It doesn't change
how we prepare.

Speaker 3 (01:01:25):
It doesn't change our week of preparation.

Speaker 7 (01:01:29):
We're gonna work, We're gonna work our best the game,
playing our best and go out and play good football.

Speaker 3 (01:01:34):
Well, but for your first.

Speaker 14 (01:01:35):
Couple of years and a half, like you've gotten nothing
but positive coverage for the majority other time. So when
you say everybody wants to focus on the negative and
not right about the positive, I don't know if that's
how is that accurate? One even be here for a
couple of years, you've got a lot of positive coveragere.

Speaker 3 (01:01:52):
You guys are good.

Speaker 15 (01:01:54):
That much your record when you're messaging with your.

Speaker 7 (01:01:57):
Team, and no, the messaging doesn't matter, and that the
message ain't from the outsouse, it doesn't. It doesn't matter us.
It's not about the record. It's about that week. And
we truly focus on one week at a time, one
day at a time, and that's how that's how we operate.

Speaker 3 (01:02:14):
You have a projection for like case Stover, is it
uh close on him? K. He's doing a good job.
He's working his way back. He's doing a good job.

Speaker 7 (01:02:22):
We'll see where he where he uh ends up, But
he's doing a good job here working out with our
our guys on the side.

Speaker 3 (01:02:28):
He's doing a good job. Yep, you go again.

Speaker 1 (01:02:31):
What makes playing in the redsone difficult?

Speaker 14 (01:02:34):
And when as a defense, when you go against a
good reson team, what are those teams that have what
do they possess?

Speaker 3 (01:02:42):
Uh?

Speaker 7 (01:02:42):
Good redsone teams? You just sound in the red zone right,
You're not allowing right gods to be wide open. You're
challenging routes you have really good. You mix up the coverages,
mix up the looks, and that's what makes it tough
with when you're playing a good red zone defense. And
to do that for offense, you just gotta find those
those plays you see, you know on tape how you're
attacking those coverages, catch him in the right one, Like

(01:03:03):
we're able to catch Higgins.

Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
Right in the cover two and we were able to.

Speaker 7 (01:03:08):
It was a good, great play design by the offensive guys,
and it put us right there in the end zone.
CJ made a nice throw, Higgs made a nice catch there.
So it's always a true chest match when you get
in the red zone because that's where teams mix up
their game plan and mix up their strategies a lot
week the week.

Speaker 13 (01:03:25):
Dalton Schultz a player that sometimes serves as like a
guy that kind of checks other guys on the offense.
He's talked before a lot of times about experiencing offense
and to making sure some other guys are in good spots,
helping CJ different times, since he kind of a guy
that goes and helps kind of implement and make sure
everybody's executing.

Speaker 7 (01:03:46):
Yeah, Dalk has been a really good leader for us,
and he leads first just about how he's playing, like
you talk about playing tough, finishing, playing through a lot
of different knicks and pains, like he doing that this year. Right,
He's doing a really nice job. So I think it
starts there. You lead by example of what you're doing.

(01:04:06):
He's doing that, and when he needs to be vocal,
he can be vocal and get guys on the same page,
get guys moving in the right direction as well.

Speaker 1 (01:04:15):
Your thoughts on voting X and what you see it
from him.

Speaker 3 (01:04:18):
I have not started on the Broncos yet, so I'll
get there this afternoon. See where they are.

Speaker 7 (01:04:23):
No, they're a good team, good record, good defense, young quarterback,
seen a couple of highlights where he's made a lot
of plays.

Speaker 3 (01:04:32):
So we'll see what that challenge presents for us as
we move forward for a first time.

Speaker 13 (01:04:36):
Can it be an advantage as well for you going
against the quarterback for the first time.

Speaker 1 (01:04:41):
What are the challenges that that possesses.

Speaker 7 (01:04:43):
Each guy possesses different challenges. I would have to look
at him and studying and more to see what those
challenges are.

Speaker 14 (01:04:51):
I think about a few weeks ago, Nick Serio said
that you all would have a better idea on Joe Mixon.

Speaker 3 (01:04:57):
Do you have an update and he was at the
game yesterday update on where he is?

Speaker 4 (01:05:01):
I do not.

Speaker 13 (01:05:02):
Do Dalton have a unique way that maybe he kind
of keeps some of the guys accountable.

Speaker 3 (01:05:07):
That's different from some of the other other players.

Speaker 7 (01:05:10):
Dalton is himself and that's the cool part about it,
Like everybody has a chance to exhibit them their own.

Speaker 3 (01:05:16):
Personality and their own way, their own unique way.

Speaker 7 (01:05:19):
Everybody is different in their regard and it's that's the
cool part about the teams. Whatever you have to say,
however you say it, however you get it done, it's
it's perfectly fine here.

Speaker 3 (01:05:30):
So Dalton has done a great job of that all year.
All right, good?

Speaker 1 (01:05:37):
Hmm?

Speaker 2 (01:05:40):
What do you think sports survey compelling stuff? And uh,
he got you got a little challenge. Last time you
heard a coach challenge that way in a in a
press conference. Who those people were? But shout out to them?
Guy usually doesn't Usually the kisses Dimico's ass and get
to ask question this week m hm. But a little

(01:06:02):
pushback from from Demiko when he was talking about the
outside noise and people like you don't think we've ever
said anything positive about you.

Speaker 1 (01:06:10):
They're saying, this is some guy called Landry.

Speaker 3 (01:06:12):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:06:13):
I don't know. Okay, I don't know who that is.
There was two different people talking there. Yeah, it was
a couple of Kobe were like, what.

Speaker 2 (01:06:22):
Hmmm, that's how I'm just saying, if y'all like to digest,
and he had to say, okay, seven one three two
one two five seven. And we've been robust with Texans
calls about the big win against the Niners yesterday seven
one three two one two five seven. And we've also
got to tell the truth coming up. We'll do that,
but we want to hear from you if you want
to come. Anything you heard about feeling the noise girls

(01:06:45):
rock the boys. I don't think that's accurate. Oh it
sounds like it though, sure. That's why a lyric mess
about my party. It's I'll get it right. It's close enough.
Seven one three say it was confidence. It sounds good,
it sounds didn't sound good. Seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two five seven
ninety one.

Speaker 1 (01:07:10):
You're telling me I never know.

Speaker 2 (01:07:23):
The great thing about this radio show is that I
do know how to tell the truth. But I can
lie really good. Sometimes I'm a great liar. I don't
mean I don't hurt, so I don't. I am all right, Yeah,
I don't need to get to the bit.

Speaker 1 (01:07:36):
Here we go. Mine are all college related today.

Speaker 2 (01:07:39):
Really, Yes, it's a college football or basketball too. Everything
not necessarily a basketball, but just in general. I have
four takes, gentlemen, I believe three of them. One lie,
one lie to mix Okay, which one am I lying?
Which three am I telling you the truth?

Speaker 3 (01:08:00):
One?

Speaker 2 (01:08:00):
LSU will not be hiring a power for head coach
from somewhere else my reason, and we'll be able to
afford it. You will be seeing a good but not
a sexy hire at LSU. Okay, really, that's my number one.
Do you believe me You're not on that one? Number
two the athletic director at LSU. His name is Scott Woodward.

(01:08:24):
He was a former athletic director at Texas A and M.
He signed Jimbo to the first contract, not the second one,
but he got the first one.

Speaker 3 (01:08:31):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:08:34):
He will not survive this. Let his shift at LSU.

Speaker 2 (01:08:36):
I think when the new president gets signed in there,
I think Scott Woodward is gonzo is the ad at LSU.
I don't know if he's a good ad or not,
but I think there is. When you're having to pay
out a coach all this money for a school that's
not cash flush, the presumption is I think Scott Woodward
is going to be in serious trouble as athletic director
at LSU. Number three, I think Lane Kiffin stays at

(01:09:02):
ole Miss. I think that he is going to listen
to everybody that wants to listen, and I think ole
Miss is going to find the money to keep him
there and keep him happy.

Speaker 1 (01:09:09):
Lane Kiffin stays at old Miss.

Speaker 2 (01:09:14):
And number four, I think colleges should make public the
money they are directly paying their athletes from their revenue
sharing fund. Not the nil but the money that's the
twenty point five million dollars. We should know how these
schools are spending their money. If they're spending it on

(01:09:36):
a position, a player, a team, what's a distribution. I'd
like to be able to know how much arch Manning
is getting paid for by the University of Texas. I'd
like to know of Connor Weigman how much money he's
getting from the University of Houston. I'm just using examples.
Oh well, okay, you mean the inneile money or the
money from the school money for both?

Speaker 1 (01:09:53):
No, no, no, no money from the school.

Speaker 2 (01:09:54):
They're what they call revenue sharing fund those these are
public schools. That stuff's going to be public, right, isn't
Right now? Okay, I think when we see height wait
whether at the high school you want to see their
salary or salary on the roster you want it on
the graphic? I mean, don't put the NFL players contracts
up on the graphic or do I? No, you don't,

(01:10:16):
they don't.

Speaker 1 (01:10:17):
I'm just saying, or do I Which one of those four?
Am I lying about? Which one?

Speaker 2 (01:10:21):
Which one of the Which are the three? These are
some ridiculous ones. There's multiple ones. That's your ridiculous. You
will not LSU will not hire a power fore head
coach from somewhere else. They can't afford it, non sexy
higher number two the eighty at LSU, Scott wood Or
will not survive this. He will be out eventually at
LSU number three. I think Lane Kiffin says at LSU
at ole Miss at number four, I believe colleges should
make public the money they are directly paying the athletes

(01:10:43):
from their revenue sharing fund?

Speaker 1 (01:10:44):
Which one of the one of those four? Just one?
Am I not telling the truth? Am I lying about?
Gentlemen discussed well Ross? First, I don't think Scott Woover
is going anywhere. He's the ad. Yes, is a bad
higher for football day? What's the higher sports?

Speaker 12 (01:10:59):
L S still dominating every single divisions sports?

Speaker 1 (01:11:03):
Does Matt believe that? Is there? Takes not mad?

Speaker 2 (01:11:06):
Yeah, Matt doesn't know anything about the rest of the
l s U athletic department. You have to remember he's
coming from.

Speaker 3 (01:11:11):
The place of.

Speaker 1 (01:11:14):
What's I don't know where I'm having from. Matt's the
coal he know.

Speaker 2 (01:11:18):
No, that's a nice way to say ignorance. Oh, there's
no nice way to sing ignorance nativity. You could say yes,
I love you too bad. I'm not saying anything. I
know you've got stuff to say. Okay, I don't think,

(01:11:42):
I mean, but come on, late Lan. Now does Matt
believe Lane Kiffin is staying at Ole? Miss Lane Kiffin
is gonna he he wants to be a star. You
can't be a star in Oxford, Mississippi. L s U,
of course, will hire a power for coach. Probably there
l s U. Their last hire was Brian Kelly from
notre freaking Dame. These are I know, Okay, number four

(01:12:07):
we're tossing out.

Speaker 1 (01:12:08):
He wants to know.

Speaker 2 (01:12:09):
I mean, it's kind of ridiculous, but I know Matt
wants to know. He said this before. I think so
four is gone.

Speaker 17 (01:12:15):
That one.

Speaker 1 (01:12:15):
I think he believes Scott Woodward is gone. I guess
you know what.

Speaker 2 (01:12:19):
I'm not even I don't know. It is no way
he keep in the mind of a madman. Number three,
I'm number three. You guys are final answers, and sure
why I do want to know how much we're making.

Speaker 3 (01:12:30):
I'm just curious.

Speaker 2 (01:12:30):
That was easy because again I want to know if
the money is always trying to pocket watch people. No,
it's called twenty a half million dollars.

Speaker 3 (01:12:38):
Scott.

Speaker 1 (01:12:38):
Scot's scary can you like to pry, and it's cool.

Speaker 11 (01:12:42):
L s U.

Speaker 1 (01:12:44):
May go the NFL coordinator route the LSU make.

Speaker 2 (01:12:48):
I mean, you know, people have been talking this morning
about you know, Mike Elko was a Duke A Granted
it was a Power four school, but Duke is not
known as a power football program now if it's still
a power for to lose, that's the wrong take on
my part. I would not be surprised if LSU says
non sexy can work Mike Elko non sexy higher. Granted
it was Duke, again, it was Power four. I would

(01:13:10):
not be surprised. Joe Brady's name has been brought up.
He's the offensive coordinator in Buffalo right now. That'd be
kind of convoluted in the middle of their season. I
wouldn't say it's a non sexy higher. But my question
was LSU will not hire a powerfour head coach. You're
saying they're not gonna They're not going to do that,
So I believe that as well. So that's a belief.
So it comes down to two. See, I think you're
gonna be wrong on that. It's fine, it's opinion, it's fine.

(01:13:34):
I think Lane Kiffin is gonna listen to every single
thing he hears. He's going to go back to Ole
Miss and say, hey me Bach and they're going to
pay him. I think I think lane Kiffin says it
all miss.

Speaker 1 (01:13:43):
I think you can get me wrong. I told you
you gotta get in the mind of a mad had dominated.
So hold on, hold on, no no, no, no, no, no,
no no no. I do know you guys are missing it.
I don't believe Lane's got what word's getting fired. That's
my lie.

Speaker 2 (01:14:01):
I think Scott war stays. Okay, wait, you said you
said Lane Kiffin stays at all Miss.

Speaker 1 (01:14:06):
Yes, I did so. I said, I think Lane Kiffin
said that's the truth.

Speaker 2 (01:14:08):
You believe he's saying. Oh yeah, okay, never mind, Yeah,
I was right, you're right. Confused to I confused myself.

Speaker 3 (01:14:16):
I don't know I was confusing.

Speaker 1 (01:14:17):
I wrote, I wrote that, you know what, I'm gonna
write that, You're right?

Speaker 3 (01:14:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:14:21):
I mean, I don't think this is hard. This is
I never goes it's difficult. Uh, you're gonna be wrong
by about three three out of four out of I'll
say this. I don't think Scott what we're going to
make the higher Okay. I think I think the money.
If you're asking these people to pay the contract, they're like, well,
I will write you a check. No, I said it wrong,
I didn't. I thought you would believe that lane Kiffin stays.
I got I confused myself. I'm sorry.

Speaker 3 (01:14:42):
No, I believe it.

Speaker 1 (01:14:43):
I believe that lane Kiffin stays at all, miss. That's
what I do believe.

Speaker 2 (01:14:46):
Yes, and I do believe that Scott Woward does. There's
no way he stays at a little miss. I don't
think you don't think so with all these openings. I
think I think it's bargaining chips.

Speaker 4 (01:14:54):
I really do.

Speaker 2 (01:14:55):
Lane Kiffin loves him some lane Kiffin. He's gonna want
to be a star. I think miss fines the money. See,
I thought you believed that, and I don't believe it.

Speaker 1 (01:15:04):
I know, I know I messed up. I'm sorry, I'm stupid.
Get you some more coffee, Yeah, let me let me
chuck this down. Get the water, obviously, you think what
I once. Yeah, when you have to drinkin some water.
I usually drink water after my coffee, but I got
to finish a coffee first, all right. Uh, we got
the news in noon, coming up in fifteen minutes. I
fill this up with the water. The NBA has released
a statement about gambling. We'll read it to you next

(01:15:26):
here on seven ninety's locked on Gordy coming in here
giving us a little tidbits about l s U Hmmm,
I think I think firing eighties, especially when it's out
of your hands unless unless the boosters hit them again
the boot If the boosters hit the eighty, you're done.
But the off what do we have to go to

(01:15:47):
boosters to get this paid off?

Speaker 3 (01:15:49):
Right?

Speaker 1 (01:15:51):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:15:51):
Or a big sponsor, And so I'm saying the same
thing booters apparently. Yeah, Adidas was is footing the bill
for the James Franklin firing at Penn State.

Speaker 1 (01:16:00):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 2 (01:16:03):
I mean, has Brian Kelly really been that bad? Let's see, honestly, Ross,
none of these guys have been that bad. When coaches
get fired when they were supposed to win nine games
a year and they go four and eight, you know
what I mean? And four ten and three, nine and
four five and three, all three losses to what top
fifteen schools?

Speaker 1 (01:16:21):
I think.

Speaker 2 (01:16:21):
So again, I do believe pay roads and making sure
fifth graders get to sixth grade is more important. I mean,
those are Louisiana issues. Yes, But of course the LSU
homers will tell you, well, the the program brings in
all this money so they can spend it how they
see fit, because without the program they don't have the

(01:16:42):
money in the first place. So I don't know if
you notice this or not, because I was I was
looking on Twitter during the uh Arizona game. Apparently there
was just a mass exodus at Tiger Stadium.

Speaker 1 (01:16:52):
Was the fate of complete for him? And there was
a lot of tech.

Speaker 2 (01:16:55):
Yeah, the boosters, I'm sure we're all upset when the
Aggies were sawn off horns, even though they weren't playing
the Horns. But anyways, sawing off saw them off Tiger feet.

Speaker 3 (01:17:06):
I guess.

Speaker 1 (01:17:08):
Do they have a Cajun version of that fight song? No,
I don't think I don't think so. They I just
saw the horns no matter who they're playing.

Speaker 2 (01:17:15):
So obviously the attorneys of the NBA office have been
busied with all this gambling stuff, right because they so
they gave their they gave a memo to all the
NBA teams. Could you imagine if you're a general manager,
or you're an owner or a high end executive of
an NBA team and you walk into the locker room. Hey, guys,

(01:17:35):
y'all need to sit down for a minute. And you
got guys like Nicola Jokic, or you got Victor Webbin Yamo,
or you've got Jalen Brown. They're all sitting around the
locker room. How need you read you something? And it
goes like this, This is how legally is this sounds?
Given the spread of legal betting to the majority of
US states, the recurrence of integrity issues across sports, and

(01:17:59):
the emergence of novel betting formats and markets, this is
an opportune time to carefully reassess how sports betting should
be regulated and how sports leagues can best protect themselves,
their players, and their fans.

Speaker 1 (01:18:12):
I mean that's in one ear and out the other. Correct.
Let me continue.

Speaker 2 (01:18:18):
While the unusual betting on Terario Rose years unders in
the twenty twenty three game was detected in real time
because the bets were placed legally, we believe there is
more that can be done from a legal regulatory perspective
to protect the integrity of the NBA and our affiliated leagues,
in particular proposition bets and individual player performance involving high
heightened integrity concerns requires additional scrutiny, i e. We may

(01:18:40):
tell our television our casino partners to back off on
the prop bets. We also begun a process reviewing league
policies regarding injury reporting, the training and education of all
NBA personnel, and safety measures for NBA players. With sports
betting now occupying such a significant part of the current
sports landscape, every effort must be made to in the players, coaches,

(01:19:00):
and another NBA personnel are fully aware of the dire
risk that gambling can impose upon their careers and livelihoods,
that our injury disclosure rules are appropriate and the players
are protected from harassment from betters. We are also exploring
ways to enhance our existing internal and external integrity monitoring
programs and better utilizing AI and other tools to synthesize

(01:19:21):
an all available data from betting operators, social media and
other sources to identify betting, action of concern and activity
of concern.

Speaker 1 (01:19:28):
Love NBA what a word leyden legally by a team
of lawyers.

Speaker 2 (01:19:38):
How about heybes, stop betting and stop getting involved with
crime activity by the way, rumor mill ablaze.

Speaker 1 (01:19:47):
Oh okay, what's on the NBA? And rumor mill.

Speaker 2 (01:19:49):
This is some nobody. These are people from outside of
the Houston market. Okay, I'm in a group of some
you know, my group, text group text Monday. Okay, there
is growing sentiment. Doesn't mean it's fair, but it's just
these are just rumors. Take them with what they were,
that Chauncey Phillips might have been coerced to do this

(01:20:12):
illegal poker games because he was being told you either.

Speaker 1 (01:20:16):
Do it or or else.

Speaker 2 (01:20:18):
That's possible. Yeah, you're saying mafioso or blackmailing people. I'm
saying there is Johncey you get over here.

Speaker 1 (01:20:28):
That is terrible. It's yeah, you're right, No, it's not terrible.
It was ridiculous. Okay, point being that could be completely false. Yeah,
he could have run up there.

Speaker 3 (01:20:36):
But there are.

Speaker 2 (01:20:38):
There are some some sentiments in three different cities that
have said, hey, we know Chauncey really good dude, might
have gotten sideways with some money.

Speaker 1 (01:20:48):
Issues and this is how he was supposed to pay
him back.

Speaker 2 (01:20:52):
Uh, he could have been in these illegal poker rooms
and this is this is a way. I mean, this
is kind of like the Mafia playbook. Get somebody in
your debt and then take advantage of them. I mean,
this is very simple mafia one on one. He could
have been in these illegal poker games that they were running.
He maybe he lost his ass. What if he lost
a million dollars in these poker games. He's like a

(01:21:13):
get it, like, Hey, you know what, Chauncey, We'll forget
about this million you owe us if you do this,
or you do this, or you set up we set
you up in these other games and you allow us
to monitor people, or if you'd let us give us
a tip if you're gonna be sitting some people.

Speaker 1 (01:21:26):
Absolutely absolutely could have happened. And so even if this
wasn't being talked about in the quote unquote group chat,
in my world, that's plausible.

Speaker 2 (01:21:36):
Because again Chauncey Phillips has no he does like he does.
Apparently there's a history of him being in these poke games.
You talked about this before since twenty nineteen, or maybe
he has played in some games that he just got
out of control.

Speaker 1 (01:21:49):
Who does we're throwing a bunch of things against the
wall here, but we're just the dollars can be lost
in these private games.

Speaker 2 (01:21:54):
I mean, I'm gonna tell you I've been posting I mean,
at least especially, you know, not as much as in
the last say, five six years, since I've kind of
gotten out of the poker game, But there were you
would always hear about these poker games with movie stars,
with player and professional players. I mean talks about even
when when they were filming Rounders and Matt Damon and
other guys being around some of these private big games

(01:22:14):
and these clubs they held in New York and Vegas
and LA and all that time, you would always hear
about private games. Yeah, where guys are guys that are
doing that stuff. That's why I think there's going to
be a long investigation as to who's protecting whom or
was just Chauncey being greedy. I mean that that's just
just as much of a possibility as he's being blackmailed
or forced into being in these games.

Speaker 1 (01:22:34):
The news at noon is coming up after we feel
the noise, I think extortion. Extortion is the word we're
looking for.

Speaker 2 (01:22:41):
It's a good word, and it's for sure seven one three,
two one two five seven ninety six.

Speaker 1 (01:22:46):
Are you feeling the noise for usse No, I don't
hear the outside noise, Matt. No, it's positive. Remember Harolin
is never positive noise around the Texans. There's only like
nineteen tube hosts up, just.

Speaker 2 (01:23:02):
Whole language I have and see see regulated station.

Speaker 1 (01:23:07):
Man, I filter myself. I'm sorry. We don't play enough
quiet riot? Can we do quiet right? Play enough quiet right?

Speaker 3 (01:23:16):
Our limit?

Speaker 1 (01:23:16):
Actually today? How many hits do they have? Quiet riot songs?
Come on? I feel the noise we have nobody that's
a quiet riding.

Speaker 3 (01:23:27):
Bang your head? You know that one?

Speaker 1 (01:23:29):
Slick?

Speaker 18 (01:23:30):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (01:23:30):
Bang your head is a real jam? Are you being serious?
You don't like kid? I don't know that one? All right,
bang your head next?

Speaker 3 (01:23:37):
Break?

Speaker 1 (01:23:38):
All right, all right, it's good. I know some guitar
hero This is the only reason I know the song. Yeah,
real ones. No I played guitar goo. Which one was?
Which one is from guitariover two? Maybe I was like seven? Okay,

(01:23:58):
all right, there you have it.

Speaker 2 (01:23:59):
No, the town's gonna give you some quiet riot with
Texans highlights like we do here. That's how we roll
on the sports Talk seven. Howety time now for the
news at noon. By the way, Laurence she hat h
oh right, just delightful to thank you. Like the offseason,
it's like a world series.

Speaker 1 (01:24:18):
Yeah, she's looking in Pennant winning form.

Speaker 2 (01:24:20):
I can tell you, Okay, Well, the Texans defeat the
San Francisco forty nine ers matthew to improve to three
and four on the season. The line got up to
three before the game, so really, Vegas was lovin on
your Houston Texans. They got the victory, but even the
final score does not tell the tale. How about twenty

(01:24:42):
three to twelve first downs Texans out performing the forty
nine ers four hundred and seventy five yards.

Speaker 1 (01:24:49):
I mean that has to be close. What's their franchise
record for yards? Five hundred yards happens in college. Five
hundred yards in an NFL game insane to just two
hundred and twenty three for the San Francisco forty nine ers. CJ.

Speaker 2 (01:25:03):
Stroud with his best game of the season. He had
three hundred and nineteen yards scin me three hundred and
eighteen yards, a couple of touchdowns with one interception, and
what do he marks looking good? Five point six yards
per carry for him to just three point three for
Nick Chubb in the game.

Speaker 1 (01:25:20):
But overall the best performance of the year, shall we
say by far?

Speaker 2 (01:25:26):
They were great against the Ravens and Titans but both
those teams are beat up, right, So would you say
it's a little bit of a stiffer competition despite it
being what are we gonna say now? It's mac Jones
out of the forty hundreds, had some injuries on defense
as well, and a couple of guys can get injured
during the game.

Speaker 1 (01:25:41):
I don't know if any of their three wins are
franchised turning wins. It beats the alternative.

Speaker 2 (01:25:50):
I think next week, if they can beat a Denver
team who's smacked around a bunch of teams this year,
I think you can get some people to turn the
corner on them a little bit. I think you can
give yeah butts for any of the three victories for
the Texans, and it would be less so the case
if they were able to win this week.

Speaker 1 (01:26:05):
Have you seen the line for the Texans versus the Broncos?

Speaker 2 (01:26:08):
Actually I have it opened up late yesterday as Denver
a one point favorite, and I see it at one
and a half right now. Hmm, this is gonna shock you.
The total is low thirty nine and a half. For example,
Bengals Bears is fifty three and a half.

Speaker 1 (01:26:24):
By the way, did you see Denver? I mean, they
just kept scoring over it.

Speaker 6 (01:26:28):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:26:28):
Granted, Dallas defense is atrocious, the Texans defense is If
Dallas is thirty two, the Texans are one. Not literally,
but you were you know, I think it was a
Kyle shanahaner mac Jones after the game saying this is
the best defense in football talking about the Texans.

Speaker 1 (01:26:47):
It was one of those one of those dude dudes.

Speaker 3 (01:26:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:26:49):
Point being is this Boenix is gonna face tremendous pressure
this week that he didn't face against the Dallas Cowboys.
Can the Texans put up numbers against the Dallas against
the Denver defense like they did yesterday?

Speaker 1 (01:27:03):
Remains me seen.

Speaker 2 (01:27:04):
Next week will be no excuse, quality, unbelievable, maybe season
saving victory. If they lose to the Texans, to the Broncos,
it'll be, you know what, you beat up on the
second tier squads and you can't beat the good ones.

Speaker 3 (01:27:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:27:18):
Well, elsewhere in the news, Matthew Brian Kelly outs at LSU.

Speaker 1 (01:27:27):
After just four seasons. What actually was it is? I
think it is fourth season as the headman of the
LSU Tigers. Brian Kelly gone after the loss this weekend
to the Texas. A and M fighting Aggies five and
three this season are the LSU Tigers. Yes, previously ten

(01:27:49):
and four, ten and three, and nine and four, So
the fourth season thirty four and fourteen overall in four seasons.
Not terrible, but not up to standard, says LSU the school.
And well, if your offensive coordinator, Joe Sloane, you're like,
all right, it's my time show. I'm gonna be interr
own coach. Not so fast, my friend.

Speaker 2 (01:28:07):
Today offensive coordinator Joe Sloan fired effectively immediately for LSU
offense ranked number one hundred and twenty four in the country,
ninety first in red zone efficiency, also eighty third in
points per game. What happened to Garrett Nusmeyer and all
that Heisman hype? What where's lots on Gordona during all this?

(01:28:30):
You know he has been so silent on this. I'd
be curious his opinion on the firing was on this
morning year, this morning. I didn't catch it. No, okay,
I can get up at six am. Normally normally you
would do. Though normally normally don't.

Speaker 1 (01:28:45):
But there you go.

Speaker 2 (01:28:46):
Both of those guys out at LSU Vanderbilt, by the way,
with their big victory this weekend, over Missouri Missouri.

Speaker 3 (01:28:57):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (01:28:57):
It was a tough one a one score game, up
to number nine in the country visiting the Longhorns. And
some interesting news there Matt arch Manning not practicing today
as he continues to be in concussion protocol and his
status is in doubt for this weekend's game against Levanderbilt Commodore.

Speaker 1 (01:29:15):
So I would take a sports RV line and say,
how are we feeling? Uh? Not great? It's gonna be
Matthew Caldwell or Campbell. Remember that guy's name. He's a senior.

Speaker 2 (01:29:25):
I think he's He's been in four different schools in
his college career, most recently at Troy.

Speaker 1 (01:29:30):
He was a one perfect one for one this weekend
against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. That line Texas, I saw
it open at two and a half, now down to
one and a half. With the recent arch Manning news.
Am I rude to say that I lose respect for
kids that play in multiple schools from over a four
year career.

Speaker 2 (01:29:51):
Multiple schools, like more than one. I'm saying how many
people still ones? There were Arizona State. There were Arizona
State players that had been that arazon to State. It
was their third school. I mean, I think, and you're
a college after you made the one switch. I made
one switch in my life. Yeah, you switched, you switch schools.

(01:30:13):
But the difference is that I moved.

Speaker 1 (01:30:16):
For a job. I didn't move because I was unhappy
in our Texas. I got a job and moved for
a job too.

Speaker 2 (01:30:21):
That's true that in al money, I think one transfer
makes a lot of sense to It comes across as
you're just there to play football. What if you start somewhere,
You're like a one two star recruit. You get to
start somewhere, and then you have a good season, and
you get to get bumped up to a decent Power four,
and then you have another good season, and then you
get to a great power program where you have a

(01:30:41):
chance to win a national championship. You get more n
IL opportunities. Absolutely, I'm not saying you can't do it.
I'm just saying I don't think nearly as highly of
those players. That's just me though, that just as my
own personal opinion. Yeah that's your opinion. I got no issue, Okay,
kids trying to get his bread. One rocket note.

Speaker 1 (01:30:57):
Rockets play the next tonight over here on seve A night,
The beginning at six o'clock with the launch. But who's
hosting the show?

Speaker 3 (01:31:03):
It will be me?

Speaker 1 (01:31:04):
Okay, raw since me, you don't want to listen at
six network sally about sixty seven percent of the time
of the Rockets game. You hear, It's gonna be me, okay.

Speaker 2 (01:31:13):
Fred van Vliet spoke today for the first time and
says he is not ruling out a potential return this season.
Of course, he's not gonna rule it out. Beats the alternative.
I'm gonna cast and don't want to see anything. Be sure,
WiFi down, Jonathan, WiFi went down.

Speaker 12 (01:31:29):
Let's see the phone lines with the phone's list still
up here, so that yeah, I think it's your computing
all right?

Speaker 2 (01:31:33):
Right now, what's the matter? Get something wrong with his
WiFi went completely down? So that's the news noon, Okay,
I'm saying that's why I added. I added something. Thank you,
Matt at Fred van Vliet, you don't want I'll tell
you this, We gonna tell me.

Speaker 3 (01:31:43):
Matt.

Speaker 1 (01:31:43):
I think if you're sleeping on him not playing, that's wrong.
Sleeping on it. I'm gonna say.

Speaker 2 (01:31:48):
Of course he's gonna be optimistic, but I but there's
different between lip service and doing it on the NBA
court where you got to run up and down the
court for forty minutes.

Speaker 1 (01:31:59):
Now you're trying to be a Debbie on her. You
know you're being realistic A randy. Jeez, I get it.
I'm actually my names Ross. It works.

Speaker 2 (01:32:07):
You can call me realistic Ross. Don't That's how I
would brand myself. Everybody thinks I'm a hater, or I'm
an optimist, or I'm a pessimists.

Speaker 1 (01:32:15):
Generally, I tried to keep it real. Keeping it real
with vial is the name of your podcast could be
keeping it real with Real? Keep it real? What's up?
Keeping it real with Ross?

Speaker 2 (01:32:30):
Roger will talk to you, and I'm ext to But
what I knew? These Newton these microphones get turned ont
at twelve noon. Isn't that crazy how it works out
that way?

Speaker 1 (01:32:37):
Rossie?

Speaker 2 (01:32:37):
No, I don't know what you're talking about. We appreciate
all of them, Love all of you. One quick note
Rockets fifteen and a half boy favorites against the Nets Tonight.
It's a must win Monday. The Nets are all in three.
They have almost one hundred and thirty. Yeah, you need
to win. These first two l's were painful. Yeah, and
there were goats. Two really good basketball teams.

Speaker 1 (01:32:59):
Yes, one title favorite still hurt one, I mean legitimate
Eastern Conference title favorite.

Speaker 2 (01:33:05):
And then then that's just suck. Although Cam Thomas, no
relation to me, scores twenty nine points per game for
them so far, but there are owing three I snutch
your cousin, No, we don't know a resemblance. By the way,
you see Victor last night with what thirty two for
the Spurs something like that, Victor woman, Yeah, yeah, I
think he's just just a guy doing alien stuff. I

(01:33:25):
mean these highlights, he's getting like three blocks and then
going coast to coast hitting step back. Jimmy's like, this
is not He's a freaking alien. Alien is the nicknamed?
It works that what they call him? Yes, okay, because
I would never want to personally call another person winby
that's true. I mean I wanted to lose a lot,
but it's not happening. Lord, But he's I also appreciate sports.

(01:33:48):
I appreciate players. I also appreciate if he was doing
in the Eastern car I appreciate it better if he
was on the Pistons, if he was a Cleveland Cavalry.
By the way, has Pistons on Peacock Tonight on a
Monday Night.

Speaker 1 (01:33:59):
Also kids a Peacock opener on the Peacock seven one
three two one two five seven. Nunny, come on and
join us.

Speaker 2 (01:34:06):
We are celebrating because we've had zero celebratory Texans calls
in two hours and eighteen minutes of the show.

Speaker 1 (01:34:10):
Took one. What was it about?

Speaker 2 (01:34:13):
Nah, he was gonna call and say this blow See.
Let me tell you something. In Houston, Texas, we've had
and we're the only show in town. The ticks phone calls.
The rest of them don't care. They want to hear
themselves talk.

Speaker 3 (01:34:23):
Am I right?

Speaker 1 (01:34:24):
Okay about right?

Speaker 2 (01:34:25):
We are taking your calls. If you are happy about
the Texans. If your name is Texans Darling, I'll even
talk to Texans Darnley and I don't.

Speaker 1 (01:34:32):
Even care today. Where's Texans Keith? Where's Texans Keith? Where's
battle Red Well? I'm working with battle Red Ross.

Speaker 2 (01:34:36):
Where's deep Staled Doug seven one three two one two
five seven nuttings? All right, it's a celebration on the
Matt Thomas Show of Ross. We are all things on
the Texans huge win. We've had nobody call yet on
the Texans winning. But that's okay. We uh, we are interactive,
which means we do get to let you you talk,

(01:34:58):
and we don't, you know, fill to you. We don't
say what you have to do and what you can't say.
We don't want to say. I want to get our
buddy Roger in the show. Now, Roger, you are a
price or on the show.

Speaker 1 (01:35:07):
We love you for that. You know this, right, Roger, Yes,
I do matter.

Speaker 6 (01:35:11):
Thank you for it as well, Thank.

Speaker 1 (01:35:12):
You very much. Hold on before you go any further,
hold on, hold on one work quick. We have we
have a little experiment we have to try. And this
is not this is not against you, okay, so don't
take this a nothing personal towards you. I want to
ask you a simple question. What team does Anthony Edwards
play for?

Speaker 6 (01:35:30):
A lazy place?

Speaker 19 (01:35:31):
For get that place for.

Speaker 2 (01:35:35):
Oh, thank you very much. He's out for two weeks
with the hamstring. He's he's out for two weeks with
a hamstring.

Speaker 19 (01:35:44):
Th you five, Hey, I got more reason to worry
about that. How about the weastion the Cougars? Thank you?
R LSU's already trying to steal uh the hey coach
away already. But I don't think you got by do it?
Hopefully not?

Speaker 4 (01:36:01):
Uh?

Speaker 20 (01:36:02):
Man, who's that quarterback for you? Ernie's gonna get Connor.
Wigan's gonna get drafted as well. I think you know
there's a there's a roof for Connor in the NFL.

Speaker 6 (01:36:13):
I think.

Speaker 5 (01:36:15):
Uh.

Speaker 19 (01:36:16):
Also, congrats and Texans. That's funny what it looks like,
a whole complete game without a shot on his backside,
without all the jumpany uh, folding pockets and all that
good stuff.

Speaker 4 (01:36:28):
Uh.

Speaker 19 (01:36:29):
Finally, can we dare say the offer to life and
stay where it is at least for a game or two,
because it looks like that's how it's supposed to look like.
Just staying is you know.

Speaker 6 (01:36:39):
Uh usually they.

Speaker 19 (01:36:40):
Try to mintion the match and go with different offensive
live by different positions. But you can leave this all
just and I see what it does.

Speaker 4 (01:36:49):
Uh.

Speaker 19 (01:36:49):
Also, that's how that straut to me looks like he
can do more with less. No Nico, and uh who
was the other guy? Uh Kirby here, that guy was
not the available and he gets the lone guy that
makes superstars out of them? Nice ver nice? Also, Uh,

(01:37:10):
you know it's gonna be hard to go to conference finals.
We win a championship and we don't win any radio
season games.

Speaker 1 (01:37:15):
Yeah, hey, hey, be nice, Roger. It's not gonna be
that bad, my guy. They're not going on eighty two.

Speaker 19 (01:37:23):
Hey, well, I still like Kevin Duraffield's coaches shafts. Pissed off,
the plans are pist off. The play about Hey, Houston
Rocket guys pissed off.

Speaker 1 (01:37:31):
I'm pissed off, baby, I'm mad as hell. Thank you,
Thank you, Roger. Appreciate the phone call. I don't like
calling losses. Ross. I get paid to cole wins. No,
you get paid no matter what happened. That's actually true.
Then you'd be really mad you.

Speaker 2 (01:37:46):
Only got for wins in two Oh, Jonathan, I did
three years of the Christian era. Oh, hey, I think
Christian Woods out of the league now, is he actually?

Speaker 1 (01:37:58):
I didn't? I did Daniel Tice? Hey, come on now,
who else was in those groups of players?

Speaker 10 (01:38:06):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:38:08):
Garrison, Matthews, Garrison Matthews, Gary Bird, Garry Bird.

Speaker 1 (01:38:16):
Yeah, Christian Wood's been out of the league for like
two years?

Speaker 11 (01:38:19):
Now?

Speaker 1 (01:38:21):
Who else did I do? Jay Sean played a lot.

Speaker 2 (01:38:24):
He's still on the team. He's one of the who's
the only He's an og from that squad. I did
boogie cousins for a short time, very short time, very
short time. You want you want to bring up that
DJ Augustine, Okay, assistant coach and now are in the
in the scotty department. Yeah, Kevin Porter Junior, Kelly Olyn,
I mean I can, I said some serious, Kelly Olnic

(01:38:44):
basketball are money Brooks if you need them? No legend, No,
I mean, no, nice kid. But why are you shaking
your head to me like he's like he's a five
time All Star? Well, you did go to the Harvard
of Southeast sexas that right, University Houston?

Speaker 1 (01:39:01):
Of course? All right?

Speaker 3 (01:39:01):
What ell?

Speaker 1 (01:39:01):
Who else saws those teams? Sterling Brown? kJ Martin, Oh,
kJ Martin, I forgot about Avery Bradley, David Naba. Oh man,
You're you're pulling off the you're pulling off the deep cuts,
the deepest of cuts.

Speaker 3 (01:39:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:39:15):
Daniel House Junior, Uh huh, Daniel House Junior, don't ask
Hi about the bubble, just saying.

Speaker 2 (01:39:23):
Leave him alone. That gets what he should have done
in the bubble. Stick keeps it gets lonely in the bubble.
There's r and beat. Thank god, those days are gone.
Josh Christopher. How's Josh Christopher doing these days?

Speaker 1 (01:39:36):
Not much.

Speaker 2 (01:39:39):
I think he's out of the league too. Jalen Green yet,
but I don't think he's played for Phoenix yet. Although
Dylan Brooks scoring on like twenty points a game for
the Suns, they're not very good. All right, there's your
rocket past twelve thirty on Sports Talk seven, and we've
been playing a quiet riot. The noise so uh. Demico
said something yesterday about the noise. Yes, and then there
was a response to the noise. There was some more noise.

(01:40:01):
There was more noise about the noise. We'll play all
perspectives perspectives of it next here at twelve thirty on
Sports Talk seven ninety twelve thirty five Madden Ross Sports

(01:40:22):
Talk seven. What is today's edition of Believe It or Not?
Brian Kelly, Oh, it's gotta no. I don't think so
he got fired. We're an honored people. We can also
not let me take you. He's getting fifty million dollars.
We're gonna honor him. I like the memes all this weekend,
Like here's Brian Kelly, uh, interviewing for the UCLA job,
and it's like the guy doing the surfer talk.

Speaker 1 (01:40:44):
If I'm him, I don't work again, because remember.

Speaker 2 (01:40:46):
When he got hired at LSU, He's like, hey, yeah, no,
well he started trying to talccasion.

Speaker 1 (01:40:53):
So you're going hang ten and UCL exactly. Yes, right,
it's pretty great. And if he's going to coach your
book is unbending the games, that's a good you know what,
I'm gonna tweet that now. Stealing your material, that's fine.
Just put like a like a Tony soprano. Can I
get a hat tip? Mon, I'm not gonna put it

(01:41:14):
up there.

Speaker 2 (01:41:15):
Okay, let's talk to Vince in Midtown on the Matt
Thomas Show. Ross, Vince, thank you for wedding A good afternoon, Bang.

Speaker 4 (01:41:23):
Good afternoon, guys. They really enjoyed the the cajun thing
you guys did earlier. I was cracking out.

Speaker 2 (01:41:29):
You know, we don't find we find ourselves funnier than
the average people do, so we thank you when we
get it once again. Get an applause from you from
once in a while, from that nice all yourself.

Speaker 1 (01:41:39):
No, it was it was great.

Speaker 4 (01:41:40):
Uh No, hey listen, I want a ticket from you
guys to go see the U of H exhibition this weekend.
Oh Yeah, how was it, Matt, You're gonna be who
He's going to be impressed with them guys. The defense
was just incredible. Uh frankly they I think they won
by fourteen fifty. I can't remember the exact score, but
that's only because one of the Mississippi State guys got

(01:42:02):
really hot. He was just throwing up some long three
pointers but and then sharp he I think it was
zero for six from three point lands. So it's kind
of like, you don't expect that to happen. Continue. So
but let me tell you, uz In looked fantastic. Tuggler's
got it back to the basket game now, and the

(01:42:24):
Senac kid he is a beast on the boards and defensively,
and Kingston Fleming is just athletic and just just I've
never seen anyone move up up and down to court
as fat as he does.

Speaker 1 (01:42:36):
So yeah, last night, I'm looking at the season good,
I'm looking at the box score. Sixty one to fifty
two was a final score, doesn't really matter, it doesn't
really count, but.

Speaker 2 (01:42:44):
It was an SEC team and you know they, I mean,
how was that building? By the way, I've never been
to the four Ben County epicenter.

Speaker 3 (01:42:50):
Is it nice?

Speaker 4 (01:42:51):
Okay, that's another subject.

Speaker 18 (01:42:53):
Uh oh no, really from the outside, no, I want
to tell you the true the building from the outside
as far as basketball, no, because so they had the
lighting for the floor and basically you're looking at the
you know, it's not it's kind of a low ceiling,
so you just had this constant glare in your eyes
from the lights.

Speaker 4 (01:43:12):
And then they didn't have they didn't have any scoreboard
to show any kind of statistics, who was checking in
and out of the game, who the fouls were on.
The concessions were okay. The food, the food. The food
prices were pretty reasonable considering, but the concession lines were
kind of long at halftime, so I don't know if

(01:43:34):
they had enough spots to get food. But overall, experience
is great. The experience is great. But the team, the
team is going to be incredible.

Speaker 1 (01:43:42):
I'm going to tell you right well, that's what I
like to hear. And if they go to the Final four,
I will be sitting in my home or sitting in
a hotel enjoying. Is that was too much for a
one man overcome? Last year? Going all the way to
Santuri and watch that lost you say that now, fancy football,
fantasy football, never ever gonna legon? All right, I'll play
what they hit the final four? You get all excited?

(01:44:03):
Why you asked.

Speaker 2 (01:44:04):
I'm gonna look at the dates now, lifelong fan, I'm
gonna I'm gonna check right now. When is the Final
four out? Can you look it up really quick? It's
the beginning of April. Yeah, week one of April.

Speaker 1 (01:44:17):
There you go. Okay, oh my god? Where is it?

Speaker 4 (01:44:22):
This year?

Speaker 2 (01:44:22):
Is in indian Indianapolis? Is it April six? Is that
when the championship and six? Okay, oh my god, I
could go to both broad Let me, let me, let me,
let me expind a situation. On the third, the Rockets
are home for Utah. Okay, the fourth, I'm supposed to

(01:44:46):
leave for San Francisco. Mm hmmm, let's go to the
final the fifth, they play in San Francisco. If they were,
you know what I might do, I might like I
do do what I might do what I did likelast year,
I might skip the Semis and then fly from San
Francisco to Indianapolis for the championship game on the sixth.

Speaker 1 (01:45:12):
Okay, I'll do it, just froud. It's like five seconds.

Speaker 2 (01:45:20):
Like I got this, Okay, but I won't. I won't
go back and forth. I will go just to the
championship game, a book with Miles if they make it
and get a liquid IV, get some emergency sick a game.

Speaker 1 (01:45:35):
It's not getting sick and that was not worth it.
Just wear a mask.

Speaker 3 (01:45:38):
I'll do it.

Speaker 1 (01:45:39):
I'm not getting COVID again. That was sucked. Sorry, Matt.

Speaker 2 (01:45:44):
Tell me I was stuck in LA for three days
in a hotel room at one hundred and three degree temperature.

Speaker 1 (01:45:48):
Couldn't shick. Not fun All right, I'll go it is
so funny. I am Seriously.

Speaker 2 (01:45:55):
Why don't y'all when I tell you things I'm definitely
going to do or not do, just take the opposite.
Toros are doing well this week, Oh you gotta beat this. Well,
we're gonna be six and two, so we're happy.

Speaker 1 (01:46:09):
We're happy. How you guys doing.

Speaker 2 (01:46:11):
The Rough Riders are one in six and we need, uh,
we need somebody to outscore somebody out by three, and
Rice Rushi Rice to outscore Isaiah Pacheco by three. Okay,
you got a bunch of chance, then le'll give you that. Okay, Uh,
anything in the NFL we have talked to. I mean,
we try to talk about Texans. Really minus nine from Bengals. Well,

(01:46:33):
I need a correct, I need a correct.

Speaker 1 (01:46:34):
You have to change. There's sure. I'm stepping in because
let me ask you this now. For those I mean
we all have you to play fantasy football. If you
get minus nine, that means you gave up like fifty
six points. You sure they gave up thirty nine? Yeah,
I'm sure, I'm looking right at it.

Speaker 2 (01:46:52):
Terrible, all right, I got a squad, I got a
goose egg from Quentin Johnson.

Speaker 3 (01:46:59):
The upset.

Speaker 1 (01:47:00):
Nobody cares, but I'm mad.

Speaker 2 (01:47:02):
I really do want you as a as a active
participant in your league and a former commissioner. I can't
believe we would give you docu nine points for thirty
nine points a lot, I mean thirty hands a lot,
but it's not at the spot empty.

Speaker 1 (01:47:12):
I would have saved nine points. That's terrible. That is
absolutely terrible, all right? Seven one three, two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven nine zero.

Speaker 2 (01:47:25):
So so much of the noise. Demiko canceled it out,
but had to answer for the noise. And we're gonna
play both parts of it coming back and so thought
it was pretty interesting what was being said. So we'll
hear that coming up. Also, uh oh, the Athletic, we'll
do this at the top of next hour. The Athletic
has the top fifty free agents out there. There were

(01:47:47):
two things I was looking for. How many of the
astros are potentially in a yes? And where was Kyle
Tucker gonna go?

Speaker 1 (01:47:53):
Did they do contract projections?

Speaker 3 (01:47:56):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (01:48:00):
Don't look? Okay, okay, when are we doing this?

Speaker 19 (01:48:03):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (01:48:04):
Topping? Okay, I won't look. You're gonna be pleased. Your
bell is your bell is gonna be full? All right?

Speaker 2 (01:48:15):
Did Dimiko hear the noise after Ross tells you about
Senter Jennings? All right, let's uh, let's evaluate this. This
was yesterday when kiss ass media.

Speaker 1 (01:48:35):
Remember was what go ahead? Am I wrong?

Speaker 3 (01:48:42):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:48:43):
I didn't hear the question. Oh oh, I guess okay,
it was how do you block out the noise? And
this is Demiko yesterday talking about blocking out the noise?

Speaker 7 (01:48:53):
Really doesn't matter about outside noise, and we hear a
lot of it. Every time you lose this, everybody wants
to come up with something of get rid of everybody
fire everybody lose a game.

Speaker 3 (01:49:04):
You go out, don't play well, it's just the noise
is just a lot of people who don't know what
they're talking about.

Speaker 7 (01:49:09):
Because here in this room, as a team, we stick
together as a team and we know it's only about us, right,
and you never let the outside noise creep in and
control who we are.

Speaker 3 (01:49:21):
We know who we are, we know what we're about,
we know the formula, we know what.

Speaker 7 (01:49:24):
It takes to go win games, and we just understand
that the outside noise is just noise. We would never
go ask anybody who's giving the noise. We would never
go ask them their opinion about how the game plan
or how to play football. So we keep that in
house and we go we press forward, and we go
out and play good football. That's what it's about.

Speaker 1 (01:49:45):
Well, nice twisting. We would never ask, We would never
ask you. I'm not listening to call in shows asking
you and wishing you on third and one and fourth
and one. I shouldn't talk about, you know, bringing an
extra blocker into help out protect CJ strapping himself very clear,
we don't care about your opinion. You don't know football,
get out of my house pretty much.

Speaker 2 (01:50:05):
So today, fast forward into the press conference which we
carrid at about eleven twenty this morning. Uh, there was
a little back and forth. I think two members of
the people that were asking questions. Correct, we're two two
different voice wars.

Speaker 1 (01:50:19):
I think it was.

Speaker 2 (01:50:19):
So here's the exchange with Demiko one day after hearing
about the noise.

Speaker 7 (01:50:25):
Everybody wants to write a hot story, and most of
the time it's negative stuff that people want to talk about.
A right, nobody wants to talk about the positive stuff
that happens. And again, if you feed off of that
and you're riding the pendulum of oh, we're great because
we want to know we suck because we lost fight
Like that's our business.

Speaker 3 (01:50:43):
I get it, and but that's what that's the nature
of it.

Speaker 7 (01:50:47):
We keep moving forward. Really, it doesn't drive anything. It
means nothing, literally nothing to what we're about. Like, it
does nothing to drive our team. We just got to
go out and play good football.

Speaker 3 (01:51:00):
You don't think you've gotten any positive stuff? Say that, like,
you don't. You don't think you've.

Speaker 1 (01:51:04):
Gotten any praise at all.

Speaker 3 (01:51:06):
Guy, it's what's your question. I'm saying.

Speaker 7 (01:51:10):
Everybody says negative. I said, I said, that's what people
thrive on. Is the negative stuff negative?

Speaker 1 (01:51:17):
But you don't think you've gotten any positive.

Speaker 3 (01:51:20):
I said, people thrive on the negative. You guys are good.

Speaker 7 (01:51:24):
You guys must be the next one with the negative stuff.
We're playing football. You talk about outside noise. I'll say
it again, it doesn't matter good, bad. It doesn't change
how we prepare, It doesn't change our week of preparation.

Speaker 3 (01:51:39):
We're gonna work.

Speaker 7 (01:51:40):
We're gonna work our best the game, playing our best
and go out and play good football.

Speaker 14 (01:51:44):
But for your first couple of years and a half,
like you've gotten nothing but positive coverage for the majority
other times. So when you say everybody wants to focus
on the negative and not right about the positive, I
don't know if that's How is that accurate? When you've
been here for a couple of years, you've got a
lot of positive coverage.

Speaker 1 (01:52:02):
You guys, good, You guys good, You guys good.

Speaker 2 (01:52:08):
Let me let me let me be perfectly blunt, okay,
because I feel like I can be fairly blunt with y'all.

Speaker 6 (01:52:15):
Right, m.

Speaker 2 (01:52:17):
Ninety percent of the people that cover the Texans are
blatant cheerleaders for them that call themselves journalists. Now, I'm
not a journalist. I'm a talk show host, I'm an entertainer,
I'm a broadcaster of games.

Speaker 1 (01:52:36):
I root for them.

Speaker 2 (01:52:37):
But when things aren't going well, we don't go well.
You know, the bad calls got us every single time
when the Rockets lose. Unfortunately, we got to talk and
speaking truths, and that's what the Rockets want for me,
and that's what I expect from myself. For Damiico to
think that the people that assemble at these Monday get
togethers that don't write positive is patently absurd. Whoever said

(01:53:04):
ninety percent, I don't know his percentage put up, but
the guy had said, for two and a half years,
we've been talking about how great things are.

Speaker 1 (01:53:10):
He's absolutely correct, He's right. This is an.

Speaker 2 (01:53:14):
Overly positive medium market when it comes to the foot
for a team that has never gone on an AFC
Championship game. And Demiko is worried about the noise of
a few of the losses in this year where expectations
were very high, I mean, come on to Miko, I
will say also that it is to be expected. I
mean there has been everybody that everybody talking about Nick

(01:53:35):
Cayley needing to be fired after he's only been here.
For a couple of weeks and the team in the
offensive line. But a lot of it has been warranted.
I will say that as well. It's not it has
been a lot of negativity, but it's also they played
very poorly. And the ones they have had are against
the Titans, against a very wounded Ravens team and a
semi wounded San Francisco forty nine ers. And here's the
thing I do want on back Demiko on He's trying

(01:53:57):
to defend a his guys, and he knows he's not stupid.
He knows Nick Keyley is getting crushed. Yes, And if
Demiko Ryans and or Hannah and or I think CJ
to a large extent, wanted uh, slow it gone. You
just brought somebody else and knew and I occmplaning about them.

(01:54:19):
That's how they interpret things. That's how that football office interprets. Oh,
you guys are never happy with the offensive coordinator. You're
never happy with whom we bring in. The reality is,
if you're brought in somebody and I don't even know
if everybody was out there to do this. If you
brought somebody in that was an experienced offensive coordinator that
had some success elsewhere. You wouldn't be Nick Keyley, wouldn't

(01:54:41):
be feeling the heat if Nick Cayley, if Sean McVay
was the offensive coordinator here and not Nick Keyley. Sean
Kelly's got skins in the game, he's got he's got honors,
and he's got success. Nick Keley was with a good
football team, but Nick Kelly didn't. It was never a
play caller ever in laws angel Let's. It was Seohn
mcvay's offense still is this day. And so yeah, I

(01:55:05):
think people have high expectations about what their offense could do,
especially because Ross We've talked about this before. You have
to make your mark if you have a really good quarterback,
in which c J. Stroud is a really, really really
good quarterback and he's on a rookie deal, because if
you don't do anything and your quarterback is now in
that super mega dollar deal, you're gonna be hamstring other positions.

(01:55:26):
If you can get your quarterback who's really good on
the cheap, and when you're in a really good spot
cod you can spend other money in other places. You
can't do that when you're paying your quarterback fifty million
dollars a year. Yeah, so just with the it's interesting
to me because when Dimico goes out there and he
does his coach speak thing, we kind of all move

(01:55:47):
about our day. But when you start kind of going
after people, that's gonna make them go after you.

Speaker 1 (01:55:52):
And we just saw that. I mean, how long have
we been hearing Demiko Ryans and these press conferences just
go out there and say a bunch of coach speaking.

Speaker 2 (01:55:58):
We've never heard some pushback like that. So when you
do try to kind of push back, then then the
media is going to push back some at you. And
so that that'll be interestespecially monitoring this going forward, especially
that group who's there. There was that's nothing but not cheerleaders.
But it's easier to write positive and it's negative. It's
easier to talk about winning things than losing things, and

(01:56:22):
you have to kind of wiggle your way around area
when that when you're covering a team and talking to
a person face to face when things are going right. Hell,
if the Rockets lose to the Nets tonight, when he
may join us on Wednesday, it's gonna be difficult for us.
It's not fun, it's not easy, it's not easy, but

(01:56:42):
we can know Joe a spotted for two years. We've
done this before.

Speaker 3 (01:56:46):
We know what this is like.

Speaker 2 (01:56:47):
So you have to be polite, yeah, respectful, but at
least that's right, that's the right questions in the right tone.
And I just Nick Cayley criticism is fair. We're not
talking about how bad of a body odor he has.
We're not talking about how whispy is his mustache is.
We're just talking about the fact that this team is underperforming.

(01:57:08):
And when you are in red zone, when you are
a coach at the highest level, whether you're an assistant
coach or you're a head coach, it comes with a territory.

Speaker 3 (01:57:19):
It just does.

Speaker 2 (01:57:22):
So you know, look, Tamiko's feeling a little bit. I
will just say it this way. That not everything. Again,
if you want complete positive your team made, your team's
media depart will help you with that. And even the
people that cover stuff, they're generally speaking pretty positive people.

(01:57:43):
So for him to push back on well, wait a minute,
we have written nice things about you. And again, you
notice what he was written. He didn't say I've heard
orr I saw he's he's getting the clips like I
told you about before, He's getting the clip service that
shows you every article that's written about the Texans. So
he's when he's eating his up sandwich at lunch, he's looking.

Speaker 1 (01:58:02):
Through that stuff, right, I guess I don't.

Speaker 3 (01:58:04):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:58:04):
Club sandwich underrated sandwich. Generally speaking.

Speaker 2 (01:58:07):
You get ham, turkey, cheese, and three breads, bacon and mayonnaise.
Oh baby, that's a win, and tomato and lettuce as
long as the lettuce is thin. Good club sandwich, are
you hungry or something? A little bit that was out
of it's kind of out of nowhere. It doesn't a
club sandwich sound good?

Speaker 3 (01:58:23):
Right now?

Speaker 2 (01:58:25):
They make club at the Daily next door, I don't
thin make club to they do? It could be lt
That's what I'm talking, all right. Twelve fifty seven. It
is the Matt Thomas should Ross. We're gonna come back,
and Ross is going to gloat about his future meal
that is gonna get paid.

Speaker 1 (01:58:38):
What are you talking about? You know him talking, You're
going to deliver glow. You're going what are you talking about?
You're gloating on the Daily seven about humility, Matt.

Speaker 2 (01:58:44):
Seven one there's remember I told you how people lie
all the time. There's a king liar right there. Seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven ninety Final hour Matt
Thomas Shold Ross.

Speaker 3 (01:58:57):
Is next.

Speaker 1 (01:59:00):
The Matt Thomas Show with Ross one o two on
Sports Talk seven nine eight is the Matt Thomas Show
at Ross.

Speaker 2 (01:59:11):
We have been celebrating the Texans win. We've celebrated Domaico
getting rid of the noise. Rockets home tonight for the
Brooklyn Nets, don't call them New Jersey Nets. We've got
Brian Kelly out as coach at l s U. I
say non big hire, meaning I don't think they poach

(01:59:31):
a power for a coach.

Speaker 1 (01:59:33):
Somewhere from somewhere. Why do you say that?

Speaker 2 (01:59:35):
Yeah, okay, let me let me give you the reason
why LSU's got money. LSU's an attractive job. Bet, LSU
is not got a blank checkbook. I think there's there's
got to be some infrastructure pressure. Maybe Gordy can speak
more to this is if he's still here, maybe taking
a nap. Who knows you're gonna pay out Kelly's contract,

(01:59:59):
You've got to pay out the asistant coaches contract. You're
then going to go spend as much, if not more,
on a new coach and a new set of assistant coaches.
You're talking about, as Matt Moscono was on this morning
on the Morning Show, between one hundred and one hundred
and fifteen million dollars to replace your football program.

Speaker 1 (02:00:14):
Yeah, but they knew all that when they fired him.
They did didn't just PLoP into their lap.

Speaker 2 (02:00:18):
This was this was all talked about in some boardroom
behind closed doors before this even came out, and this
decision was made.

Speaker 17 (02:00:24):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (02:00:27):
I think the heavy lifting is done with paying out
the coach. I think you think about what it's going
to cost us down the road. Now did they bring
up what's going to cost us?

Speaker 1 (02:00:36):
Of course? But I'm just just it's not a gut feeling.

Speaker 2 (02:00:41):
It's just it's just how I feel, just how I
feel that I feel like when they like, I mean, uh,
And we got some phones coming in at seventy one three,
two one, two five seven, honey, let me ask you
this Jim bow Fisher gets fired, was yeah, very was
the name you were thinking about replacing him?

Speaker 1 (02:00:57):
Was Mike Elko?

Speaker 2 (02:00:58):
No, No, they tried to do Mark Wait, Mark Mark
Stoops is Mark Stops, Yes, coach Kentucky. Mark Stoops was
gonna be the higher and then there was a huge
firestorm report there, and then Mike Elko was the guy.
But Mike Elko was from a power for school, but
not a not considered all these of a football factory.
L s U is a more prestigious job than Texas

(02:01:19):
A and M. It's not even close. Usually talking about money,
then of course A and M's up there with anybody.
But you want to talk about prestige. LSU is ahead
of the text saying to Maggie's it's not even close. Right,
So I'm gonna I'm gonna preface it again. I'll say
my statement again, and then Gordion will come in and
interrupt the show.

Speaker 10 (02:01:37):
Here we go. I want to hear say that again.
I feel like the audience, the people in the back.

Speaker 1 (02:01:42):
I've said it twice now I'm correct, right, I mean,
come on.

Speaker 2 (02:01:47):
My My thought is, Gordy, is that you you're gonna
spend There's gonna be a tough pill to swallow, paying
out the Kelly contract to you have to go get
that money and then some to get somebody that's gonna
be super, super sexy and profound.

Speaker 10 (02:02:00):
And you're there's something you're missing the verbage in his
contract says he is required in good faith to go
find new work. And there's a there's a bio clause
that says anything any job he gets, whether that's new
head coach, administration, or media, it offsets whatever.

Speaker 3 (02:02:17):
They have to pay.

Speaker 1 (02:02:18):
Okay, but they will not pay him fifty three millions. Okay.
But if let's see if ESPN pays him one point
five million dollars a year to do game day or
whatever game did, that's nothing. That's that's that's penny job
for two years.

Speaker 3 (02:02:31):
His ego.

Speaker 1 (02:02:32):
He ain't not coaching. He's gonna be coaching somewhere. So okay.

Speaker 2 (02:02:35):
So even if if it went from fifty three to
say thirty eight, let's say you gets like uclare well,
but here was the.

Speaker 10 (02:02:41):
Thing too, about the whole conversation yesterday was we're not
paying you fifty three period. So let's talk about let's
talk this out about what the number is gonna be.
There was one report that came out and said they're
only gonna pay him somewhere between twenty and thirty and
what they may negotiate is a full lump sum pay.
So instead of them just cutting them a check for
seven hundred k every or seventy k every month for

(02:03:04):
the next six years, they'll just do Hey, let's do
a full twenty five million lump something.

Speaker 2 (02:03:08):
Pay now that could change my thought process on this. Yeah,
whatever it is, they're not paying him fifty three Okay,
Well what I want is so I'm going to go
onto the assumption that they're going to because you can't.
You are assuming that he's going to be able to
get a high pro Brian Kelly. Maybe damage goods might be.
I'm just telling you.

Speaker 10 (02:03:26):
But what I'm saying is the whole reason they had
this negotiation yesterday was to say, flat out, we're not
paying fifty three million, So where do you want to
go here? We can roll your ass out in two
weeks and get embarrassed again against Alabama and we keep
ruining your legacy. Or let's let's part ways right now.
We'll figure something.

Speaker 2 (02:03:42):
You can run my like I say, for fifty three
million dollars. Okay, so my point, coaches are prideful, So
let's go back. Let's go back to it. Though, how
big of a hire is this going to be? Do
you think at the end of the day it.

Speaker 10 (02:03:52):
Depends they'll have the resource. Look, the big money here
was the big reason why this happened when it did
on Saturday night, they honored the border supervisors and the
big money people on field.

Speaker 1 (02:04:03):
So that was in the Thibodeaux family.

Speaker 3 (02:04:05):
That was family.

Speaker 10 (02:04:07):
The whole reason OZ you're all got fired after the
loss at Kentucky a few years ago is because all
the big money people made that trip to Lexington and
they were there future trip.

Speaker 1 (02:04:15):
Yeah, their bad luck.

Speaker 10 (02:04:16):
Yeah, I'm just saying, like, when that happens in front
of those people, those people are quick to write tracks.

Speaker 1 (02:04:21):
So that I also had to see the Aggies sawing
the horns off and like basically taking over the stadium.

Speaker 10 (02:04:26):
I look, their first win there since nineteen ninety four.
You know, blind squirrel finds another every now, but they
dominated the game. By the way, it's their first uh,
it's their first ranked SEC team they've played all year.

Speaker 1 (02:04:39):
Congrats. Are you going to outspend Florida? Florida State?

Speaker 10 (02:04:46):
Florida States can't get out of that Norville contract.

Speaker 2 (02:04:48):
I'm just gonna throw the names against the winter. Are
you gonna outspend Penn State? Are you gonna outspend UCLA?
Who else could be about?

Speaker 6 (02:04:55):
Here?

Speaker 1 (02:04:56):
Here's where it gets Oklahoma State Oklahoma State, Virginia attack.

Speaker 10 (02:05:00):
Yes, they're gonna outspend the Arkansas. They're gonna spend all
tho schools. The problem, here's the game, the game that's
being played. Lane Kiffin's number one on their list. Lane Kiffin.
The administration almiss just said two weeks ago when Kurt
Signetti got that deal, that they'd like to get a
deal done similar to that to keep Lane Kiffin and Oxford.
But here's what lanke Kevin needs to ask himself. Lane

(02:05:20):
Kiffin hasn't even Ole miss has never played for an
SEC championship ever, They've never even been to Atlanta, lan Keffan,
He's asked himself, am I better served here? Do I
have a better chance to win a national championship in
little old Oxford, Mississippi, where they sell chicken on a
stick at the gas station.

Speaker 1 (02:05:39):
Here's crackling to the gas station. Are you talking about?

Speaker 10 (02:05:42):
I'm sorry? Three national championships in two thousand and four,
a championship program like LSU with three different coaches, and
even in three different coaches, and even Florida twenty years ago,
Erbert Meyer went back to back titles. They're oh, miss,
ain't one Jack so look as nice as the chandelier
is in the grove in the red solo cups. I
don't know if you can win it championship, right, So
that's why the wandering eye catches Lane and he goes,

(02:06:04):
am I gonna have Because here's the thing with Louisiana.
You put up a fence around the state, they just
manufacture ball players. Literally for edo's'er on Jamar Chase and
Justin Jefferson fell out of a tree into his backyard. Like,
so Lane has to keep going to the portal at
Oxford because he can't recruit in Oxford, Mississippi.

Speaker 2 (02:06:22):
Well, LSU, you can recruit about Kirk Signety. Are you
talking about Lane Kiffin here? Okay, Kirk Sannetti's has zero
problem with Indiana and recruiting ground.

Speaker 10 (02:06:31):
Here's well, he'll probably fall off another year or two,
but here's where here's where he good stuff with with Lane. Okay,
Ole miss says he's making a ten million right now,
what if they go, we'll make that eleven. Jimmy Sexton's
gonna turn LSU and go you're gonna go to twelve.
And then if they go to twelve, they're gonna go
to Ole missing, you're gonna go to thirteen and so
it just this, it's this going.

Speaker 1 (02:06:52):
Gonna blak first out exactly. That's why. I yeah, I
think I don't think you're crazy to think that Kiffin's
gonna stay, Matthew, but I think you are. There's too many.

Speaker 10 (02:07:01):
It's the money favorite right now. The favorite is Kiffin
states that's the easiest move. But if he were to leave,
these are two premier jobs in Florida and LSU.

Speaker 1 (02:07:10):
I also think that the Lane Kiffin likes him some
Lane Kiffin.

Speaker 3 (02:07:12):
He does.

Speaker 2 (02:07:14):
Balls on yourself. I think Kevivin is gonna use these
as bargaining chips for Florida. Yeah, because it's gonna go
to the highest bidder.

Speaker 10 (02:07:20):
You're he's here's the thing too, he's hoppy in Oxford
because here's the thing. If he goes seven and five
next year, it'll miss. They don't give a damn. If
he goes seven and five, seven and five, seven and
five in Florida, they're gonna go, hey, we didn't pay
for this. We paid for championships, all right.

Speaker 2 (02:07:33):
So before we let you go, uh, because you've been
putting in some serious hours today. Who are the who
are the top three in the list in your mind,
I said that not who you want? Yeah, who do
you think of the top three? On the l s
U whistleash I said, this unlocked an SEC and you
can subscribe wherever. Again, you know you're worthy. Five minutes
Radio app I said their top three, Lane Kiffin won.

Speaker 10 (02:07:55):
Well, here, the first, very first phone call you make
is the Nick save, just to say hey, you sure
you're done? Because it was It was in January of
this year. On the Pivot podcast sitting down with Ryan Clark,
Nick Saban said the words, professionally, the biggest mistake in
my career was leaving LSU. He said that this year,
in twenty twenty five. So Miss Terry said a few
weeks ago too, when Penn State opened, she said, what's

(02:08:16):
the number? Her name is Terry, not miss Terry, that's
miss Terry. It's Terry, now, Miss Terry. It's ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (02:08:22):
So you start with that.

Speaker 10 (02:08:23):
Saban will go, no, but at least you make the
phone call. Number two is Lane Kiffen. You get into
his bidding war. We'll see what happens. Number three. I
think they love Joe Brady with the bills. But here's
the problem. Which here's the problem. No, I just said
top four power coach Bill Bills. Bills are going to
be a playoff team. Can you wait until January February

(02:08:44):
for Joe Brady to get there? Keep this in mind,
first week of December as a signing period, probably not.
First week of January is the transfer portal and is
only gonna be one portal window this year, So you
basically have to hire a whole staff to come in
and do all that for you. Or Joe Brady leaves
mid season with the Bills who appeared to be one
of the favorites to go win a Super Bowl, So
why would you leave that? So that's that's a tough one.

(02:09:06):
And then after that it's John Summrall at two lane,
who they're very high on. And then after that maybe well.

Speaker 1 (02:09:15):
I knew you were when you said after that, I
knew where you were going.

Speaker 10 (02:09:19):
Friens is a winner everywhere he's been.

Speaker 1 (02:09:21):
Yeah, and you can't have him. Okay, I'm just saying
you can't go Tom. You know what, love Tom Herman
ten years.

Speaker 10 (02:09:27):
Ago to give him a standing, a standing ovation on SATA.
Do you know this rust of Tom Herman is coming back?

Speaker 1 (02:09:32):
Did know that.

Speaker 2 (02:09:34):
Hot dogs and his hydration. We know he's coming back
or I know the players. Yeah, no, no, Tom Herman
is gonna be there.

Speaker 1 (02:09:41):
Shut up front door. Why are you saying?

Speaker 3 (02:09:44):
Why?

Speaker 1 (02:09:44):
Really didn't think he was going to come back?

Speaker 3 (02:09:47):
What else is he doing?

Speaker 10 (02:09:47):
You have a standing?

Speaker 6 (02:09:48):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (02:09:48):
He was a great Yeah?

Speaker 3 (02:09:49):
What do you mean?

Speaker 1 (02:09:50):
I like Tom?

Speaker 3 (02:09:50):
You know what I mean?

Speaker 1 (02:09:51):
He brought you guys to I'm off I'm domb team Tom.

Speaker 10 (02:09:54):
Now Ross may not give him standing.

Speaker 1 (02:09:57):
I didn't think he was that bad. He got go
because the whole the whole eyes of Texas thing, I
think I think those part of it. To her in
front of the show's get him in the studio. Where
is he?

Speaker 3 (02:10:09):
I don't know where he is.

Speaker 2 (02:10:11):
You're counting money. We got really nice house in Austin, Okay.
So when I say not a power for head coaching job,
I might be right.

Speaker 3 (02:10:19):
You might be right.

Speaker 10 (02:10:22):
Which fit that bill. Yeah, but but they're not yet.
I can't see James Franklin. I can't see Mike Gundy.

Speaker 1 (02:10:30):
That's well.

Speaker 2 (02:10:32):
Our friend Adam Rittenberg from ESPN has ranked the head
coach openings right now really quick, Number one, l s
U everybody Florida two Penn State number two. I like
Florida over Penn State state probably Florida number three, Oklahoma State.
Here's the thing with Penn State. You don't have to pet.
You don't the schedule rotates. You don't get Ohio State
and Michigan every year. So beat up on Indiana and

(02:10:54):
Southwest and Northwestern.

Speaker 1 (02:10:56):
And James Franklin couldn't do that enough.

Speaker 10 (02:10:59):
That was the thing he would lose. He would beat
off everybody not named Ohio State, Michigan.

Speaker 2 (02:11:02):
And since you are SEC, Hank. I mentioned this to
my buddies on the trip in Arizona. So you know,
for years it was the SEC on CBS, right, I
mean you had the sexy Auburn Alabama, you had Georgia
versus Florida, Brad Nessler and Gary Danielson.

Speaker 1 (02:11:19):
You know they're doing the Big ten now they did Minnesota, Iowa.
I mean, jesus, I mean, what a fall. Not their fault,
CBS is fault for not paying. But you go from
covering the I mean the top matchup every week to
some middling, mid to big ten game. Yes, we said

(02:11:39):
that was gonna happen.

Speaker 10 (02:11:39):
You know what they've done now too on ABC is
all three games all day or SEC games now the
morning game in the night game. Joe Tessitur referred to
it on Saturday said, it's the old day. SEC network
should be hell.

Speaker 2 (02:11:53):
When Texas Mississippi State's on the SEC network, that shows
you how deep.

Speaker 1 (02:11:56):
Your your game list is. Oh, I can't wait for that.
Took me a minute to five.

Speaker 10 (02:12:00):
It did you guys see the news today out of Texas?

Speaker 1 (02:12:02):
What thation?

Speaker 10 (02:12:07):
Sark was gushing on Matthew Caldwell. I think it's gonna
be called well against v.

Speaker 1 (02:12:11):
I think so to his yea, his head slammed into
the turf.

Speaker 10 (02:12:14):
And what happens when Caldwell's awesome?

Speaker 6 (02:12:16):
What do you do?

Speaker 3 (02:12:17):
Stop?

Speaker 2 (02:12:19):
He's Detroit transferring. You can't go back to No, Yeah,
absolutely you can. Art was great in that game.

Speaker 10 (02:12:27):
Four touchdowns and they beat Vanderbilt. Gonna go back, gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (02:12:30):
Come back here next Monday and let's see that. Matthew Jersey, Okay,
so where can we find lock the SEC.

Speaker 3 (02:12:38):
Where you get your podcasts?

Speaker 11 (02:12:40):
Hater?

Speaker 3 (02:12:40):
He just comes in here.

Speaker 1 (02:12:41):
He's a hater.

Speaker 10 (02:12:42):
Gordy, he loves l s U. He hates loves l
I can't wait for Titan's head coach Sark and then Texas,
you're the king of inventing scenarios that are never gonna happen.
Reported we're talking.

Speaker 1 (02:12:54):
About the Matthew Caldwell. What if he throws four touchdowns?
He could be good.

Speaker 3 (02:12:59):
You don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:13:00):
He through the game winner on Troy, He's gonna be
fine through the game winner. All right, Yeah, he's one
pass then he completed. There it is seven one three
two one two five seven, Honie, Mike and Tim will
get to you next. We've got Believe it or Not today,
all things about we're doing Brian Kelly, why what do
you want to do? Then we got thirty five minutes disgraced? Yeah,
I know, but oh wait is it one fifteen? Yeah,

(02:13:20):
well the show has flown by. Yeah, I'm saying thirty
five minutes. Well, my computer's doing updates seven one three
two one two five seven.

Speaker 1 (02:13:26):
Hoy come on back.

Speaker 2 (02:13:31):
On twenty one on the Matt Thomas Show. By the way,
June Lockhart could be a topic I'm Believing or Not today.
She passed away over the weekend, one hundred years old,
missus Cleaver from Leave It to Beaver one hundred May
she rest I would hope. So she lived a good life.
One name June Lockhart. She was also on the TV
show Lost in Space. Really yeah, she played the mom. Hmm, okay,

(02:13:54):
I only watched that was I was. It was a
rerun when I was a kid. It was in the
show was in the late sixties. But yeah, that's uh that.
She'd be best known as missus Clee. She also invented
cold cereal.

Speaker 1 (02:14:03):
She did not.

Speaker 2 (02:14:04):
Okay, okay, can I give you two seconds of being bougie? Yes,
go ahead, fancy Matt. On my flight from Houston and
Phoenix on Saturday, I got upgraded. WOWU stat I saw
I use my credit card for flights or what.

Speaker 1 (02:14:16):
I didn't purchase the first class. That's why they call
you point grifter, Thomas. They don't call me coming to
the accumulator, not the grifter.

Speaker 11 (02:14:24):
Like that.

Speaker 2 (02:14:24):
So I had three choices. I had the strawberry. I
si a bowl for breakfast. Okay, the eggs and potatoes
or oatmeal.

Speaker 3 (02:14:34):
You went with.

Speaker 1 (02:14:37):
Eggs and potatoes. You didn't do I e. There's no
chance oatmeal. Oatmeal is my second. So the oatmeal comes out.

Speaker 3 (02:14:42):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (02:14:44):
It was the first time in my life I never
had cold oatmeal, cold meal. It didn't taste like oatmeal.
It tasted like rice pudding. It was delicious.

Speaker 3 (02:14:55):
It was good.

Speaker 2 (02:14:56):
It was really good. But it was and it had
like a peach, a layer of peach, not mil but
but compote, compote. That's a good thank you. I couldn't
think ill of him. Does a grown ass man say compote?

Speaker 3 (02:15:09):
I don't know?

Speaker 1 (02:15:09):
And a peach component wreath, cold oatmeal, nuts and berries
on top of it.

Speaker 4 (02:15:14):
It was.

Speaker 2 (02:15:15):
It was phenomenal. If anybody's ever flown schmided, Okay, what
I tasted? I told Kause Kevin Ashenfelder was sitting next
to me on the plane, and I was like, have
you ever seen this? Because usually when you get when
I get oatmeal, I get hot oatmeal. I like to
put a little bit of milk in it, a little
bit of brown sugar and some like some granola or
something cinnamon stupid.

Speaker 1 (02:15:31):
I don't know what raisins with blueberries? Uh no, But
it was cold. I was like, what is this? And
I was like, this is interesting, it's good. It's really good.

Speaker 2 (02:15:41):
Okay, So I just want to say shout out to
you schmidd for serving me cold oatmeal. And actually I
enjoyed it. That's all I got.

Speaker 1 (02:15:47):
Okay, thank you, Matt, and nothing to show, and I apologize,
but that's something that's how I usually do the show.
I throw a bunch of things. Stewing doesn't really add
to much of the show. I thought there was going
to be bored.

Speaker 3 (02:16:01):
No, I just hated.

Speaker 1 (02:16:02):
That's all I got. You, Mike seven, Good afternoon, Mike. Wow,
shut up there.

Speaker 17 (02:16:10):
I don't think that's stuck to the wall. But the
Gordos out of the Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:16:18):
He's back on tiger droppings down.

Speaker 6 (02:16:20):
Man.

Speaker 2 (02:16:21):
Oh you know what, I hold hold, hold on, hold on,
I gotta make another mistake. June Lockhart was not Missus
Barba Billingsley was Missus Cleaver.

Speaker 1 (02:16:29):
June Lockhart was definitely lost in space this dead lady.

Speaker 3 (02:16:33):
No no, no, no no.

Speaker 1 (02:16:34):
June Lockhart was definitely Lassie's mom too, right, yes, yeah,
and definitely was lost in space. Yes, yes, okay, thank
you Joan for correcting. And Petticoat junction, she was a
really Petticoat junction. That's what this is. You're lying, Google.
Put her up on Petticoat junction. All right, go ahead, Mike,
We're sorry, Go ahead. You're Google's lying? What go ahead?

Speaker 6 (02:16:59):
Okay?

Speaker 17 (02:17:00):
So the it was almost a year to the day. Uh, Matt,
it was you, me and Gorrido having fun the week
of Thanksgiving, and uh, I was a tongue corded that
my Irish were thrilled to get rid of that man.
And he was going to rue the day that they
hired b K. And he went on and on, probably

(02:17:22):
at the mouth, about my Marcus Freeman. Who's what kind
of coach is that you guys can pull this up?
We were we were both born at it sounds familiar.
So I did want to remind him of that phone
call because I told him he will not work out.
We were done with him. We were we were blessed

(02:17:44):
to have him depart so he'd get Marcus. And now
they keep listening Marcus under all these job openings. That
drives me crazy. Uh so we are going to have
to fight to keep him.

Speaker 2 (02:17:56):
And I here's right out of the category. If I
just don't get it. I don't get why Notre Dame
isn't a premiere number one job. Is it because it's
too hard to get athletes? Is it because the anil
is not great? Is it because I because conference affiliation.
That's a great freaking job. All they do is win there.
Marcus Freeman is an excellent, excellent football coach, and if

(02:18:19):
I was him, I'd stay there for the next thirty
years and call to day.

Speaker 17 (02:18:23):
Yeah, you hit on most of it. I mean a
lot of it is just not.

Speaker 6 (02:18:29):
Enough.

Speaker 17 (02:18:30):
And they had problems with facilities. They're improving those. The stadium.
It took a while for them to improve that as well.
I will say this, Brian Kelly did push them. He
pushed them on facilities, he pushed them on you know,
the scoreboard, he pushed them.

Speaker 3 (02:18:43):
On other things.

Speaker 17 (02:18:45):
But the yeah, they're still they still hold tight to
the academic standards. So there is that downside as well.

Speaker 15 (02:18:53):
But so.

Speaker 17 (02:18:56):
No question, it's it's not it still won't be the
mirror job as far as now that we're in the
you know the area. If you can fail and still
walk away fifty three million, they just they just can't
do that, and so we we can't do that. So
but thrilled to have Marcus. He's fabus, he relates to

(02:19:16):
the players and just incredible coach. I hope we keep
them for a couple more years.

Speaker 1 (02:19:21):
Thank you Mike for the phone call. I appreciate it.
I again, I think it's a great job.

Speaker 2 (02:19:26):
Maybe it's because again, maybe Rossie is just sec is
everything is everything great, sec is greater than everything else.
Maybe that's got to be it. I don't know, yep,
I mean, I guess it depends on the motivations of
the coaches. We were talking about link kiffn. What does
he want to do? Where does he want to be?
Where does he want does he have to win a
national championship? And a lot of these coaches are very

(02:19:46):
ambitious and very motivated.

Speaker 1 (02:19:48):
To reach them. They have not become that. I don't
know what is the last national championship they want?

Speaker 2 (02:19:53):
They were early nineties, they played the national title game
all the times and got kick got beat up pretty bad?

Speaker 3 (02:19:58):
Is it because?

Speaker 2 (02:19:59):
I wonder if it's because of the academic requirements are
a little douter. If anything, Rudy has taught us the
academics are you got? Are very serious? Theremy let me
tell you some Rudy can shut his by mass up.
You can suck at Rudy. You know what I said
every time every time you say, I know you hate Rudy.
So I brought it up just to do that. But no,
the the academics, I mean the as the caller, we're

(02:20:21):
talking about the Notre Dame fan. The facilities are behind
the times. You're in South Bend, Indiana. I mean there's
a number of it. But you could scoop up every
decent Midwest player. Oh Hio State's doing that. Yeah, you
could scoop up every decent Catholic a little. Really, they're
not running the Catholics aren't running it to play Catholic

(02:20:42):
church is kind of It's not the fifteen forties anymore,
matt ol. So you're saying the college football brand in
the fifteen forties is significantly better.

Speaker 1 (02:20:49):
Al Right, I got you. The Catholic brands kind of
all right what it once was. I say this as
a of someone who has raised Catholic I understand.

Speaker 2 (02:20:57):
Yeah, Notre Dame should be if they could ever upgrade,
keep their facilities good.

Speaker 1 (02:21:01):
I mean I've been to their football steam. It's mid
basketball rinea is okay.

Speaker 2 (02:21:04):
I don't know about the rest of the facilities, but
my guy, I'm wondering if the academic requirements are something
that gets in their way. All right, Speaking of a
man who is an excellent football coach. I'm gonna let
Willie Fritz spend the next minute talking about Cougar football.

Speaker 1 (02:21:16):
You ready for that?

Speaker 3 (02:21:18):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (02:21:19):
Right this second, here is Willie Fritz on the Houston
Cougars this Saturday.

Speaker 3 (02:21:25):
I'd like one on one other thing too. I hope
we can get a great crowd out there.

Speaker 11 (02:21:30):
You know, I always get our marketing people and r
ad and they I'm always had me to do different things,
you know, I ain't coach. Let's do this, draw crowd
and all this other kind of stuff. Every place I've
ever been, how you draw crowd as you win, all right.
So we've done that part of it, and we want
to continue to keep doing that part of it.

Speaker 3 (02:21:50):
And we'd love to get a big crowd out there.

Speaker 11 (02:21:52):
Eleven o'clock in the morning Saturday. I think that's a
perfect time for a ball game, all right.

Speaker 1 (02:21:58):
So let's get it.

Speaker 11 (02:22:00):
Everybody out there on Saturday at eleven o'clock to have
a fantastic crowd and get ready to cheer on the kooks.
Oh you know one other thing too, we got we
are having the ten year anniversary of the Peach Chimpions.

Speaker 2 (02:22:19):
Adam Clanton said, four hours of endless Texans conversation today.
I can't wait for that eighteen two o'clock here on
seven ninety. Okay, for the last time, June Lockhart Lassie's mom, Well,
not literally, but you know what I mean. This is
the dog, Yeah, and she's the dog mom, and she
and lost in space. She was not missus Cleeveban.

Speaker 1 (02:22:39):
I was on Petticoat Junction. What's she playing? I have
had it pulled up Missus Craig or something.

Speaker 2 (02:22:46):
You know, a lot of these TV moms survived a
long time, and I think I want to say that
Richie Cunningham's mom is still a lot. She was doctor
Janet Craig for forty five episodes in Petticoat Junction.

Speaker 1 (02:22:57):
Who tried to tell me she wasn't in that show?
You never watched I ever watched one episode. Then I
read telling me so definitively she wasn't in it.

Speaker 2 (02:23:08):
Yes, you know what, Petticoat Junction was much a twenty
year old hotties who are now seventy three, seventy four,
seventy five, seventy six, somewhere in that range, are you okay? No,
they were hotties back in nineteen sixty six. If you
were in that group.

Speaker 1 (02:23:26):
I mean, guess we got some seventy five year olds
listening to the show. They thought they were hot back
in the day.

Speaker 2 (02:23:31):
Matter of fact, Jonathan, play get the get the petticoat
Junction theme song off of YouTube. We'll play it after
we play the call, say get petticoat Junction.

Speaker 6 (02:23:43):
P E T T. I see what?

Speaker 1 (02:23:45):
What is so funny? Seriously focused? So why that's striking me?

Speaker 11 (02:23:50):
So?

Speaker 3 (02:23:50):
I don't know what it is.

Speaker 2 (02:23:51):
I'm talking to Tim, but it's a twenty year old
Hoddies and now they're seventy.

Speaker 1 (02:23:56):
Tim, good afternoon. It amazing, Thank you for asking me.
I'm not doing great, Tim, what's up?

Speaker 16 (02:24:03):
He don't about five years ago you were coming back
from the Tulsa Airport and uh you had a burnt
uh sandwich shruck quizdows at the Tulsa Airport. Was incredibly
iran because I had the exact same thing happened to me?

Speaker 1 (02:24:21):
Was I nice to you?

Speaker 6 (02:24:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 16 (02:24:24):
They're they're played anyway.

Speaker 6 (02:24:26):
That's why I know why I'm calling.

Speaker 17 (02:24:29):
Uh.

Speaker 16 (02:24:30):
So here's where noise b Why did we have a
nine pm Monday football game? And why is this is
my big question? Why is not the world. Why don't
you have the Super Bowl on like a Saturday night?

Speaker 2 (02:24:48):
Okay, yeah, I can be happy to number one. Nine
o'clock game was originally supposed to be an ESPN Plus game.
They got out of that because they're figured, Look, every
game we put on an NFL draw huge numbers. Although
the Text and Seahawks game did not do well, they'll
never have a nine o'clock I I we can put
this down.

Speaker 1 (02:25:07):
Put it.

Speaker 2 (02:25:08):
There will never be there will never be a well, God,
I don't know if I can do that. Forget what
I said, never say never met. There'll be no more
than one per year the rest of the history of
the NFL putting a nine o'clock game. Putting a game
on at ten o'clock Eastern Time was a terrible idea.
You just you just it's a football game. Millions of
people want to watch football. They're not going to stay

(02:25:29):
up at ten o'clock at night in New York City
or in Boston or in Philadelphia to watch the Texas
and Seahawks. It was just a big It was a
big mistake. I don't think they'll do much of it
if ever again. I can't say never, because you never
know in these doubleheader things, now, will they stagger these
games like they've done in the past. Unfortunately, I think
they still will. You know, there's sometimes they put games
at six and they put another one at seven fifteen.

Speaker 1 (02:25:51):
They could do that. Okay, hold on, I'm writing in
this down, but I don't think we'll ever see a
nine o'clock game again. Don't put I'm not put my
name outs the gut filling for the Morrisons.

Speaker 3 (02:25:58):
I'm not here.

Speaker 1 (02:25:59):
I'm gonna make it just regular feeling. Okay, I'll just
make it a go. And the bottom line is people
say that they would love for it to be on
a Saturday.

Speaker 2 (02:26:05):
There's no reason. There's really no reason why you can't
put on a Saturday. It's the most important sporting event.

Speaker 1 (02:26:10):
Of the of the year.

Speaker 2 (02:26:11):
I get to do more people watch TV on a Sunday. Yes,
more people are going on on a Saturday Saturday the audience,
but that's I think you can buck that trend if
you put it on eight o'clock on a Saturday night.
I think it's such a big event you could you
could skirt it there, but then revenues would go down.
You wouldn't get as much from advertisers. If you're having

(02:26:31):
fewer viewers, it's all about money, Mattie. I know it's
about money, but this Trump's this. It's two hundred and
fifty million people. You can put the game on at
Thursday at three o'clock in the afternoon and have so
of tw hundred and fifty million people watch.

Speaker 1 (02:26:43):
It's a super Bowl. Why haven't they done it yet?
I think tradition and I do believe Sundays are a
highly television watch night. But let me put it this way.
You don't. You could put on a CSI Detroit at
eight o'clock and night and tw hundred fifty million people
are gonna watch it on a Sunday night.

Speaker 2 (02:27:00):
So it's about the event. It's not about the day
in the time. It's a super Bowl, So I'm all
for it. I think Saturday is cool.

Speaker 1 (02:27:07):
Saturday be great. I just don't know if the TV
execus agree.

Speaker 2 (02:27:12):
Who could we ask? Yeah, you have to ask Adell
problem Roger Goodell. Yeah, yeah, I asked Cal McNair. Cal
has no idea. Hannah goes those meanings. Cal does Super
Bowl Sunday. You know you know what Cal does. Cal
does what I do when my wife and I go
shopping and she wants to go to a boutique I
saw sit in the car.

Speaker 3 (02:27:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:27:34):
Or you can just find those massage chairs. Oh, I
know you like those. I love the massage chairs at airport. Right,
what's your gut feeling we write this down. I don't
think I've got one. Oh it was about uh oh,
no nine o'clock games next year in the NFL, No
nine pm games. Look, I got one for you. I

(02:27:55):
think I know the answer. Should we see baseball go
back to a tow two not go back to go
to a two two one one one format series? World series?
I say no, too much traveling. Baseball works in series anyway.
It was very upset when they did.

Speaker 3 (02:28:12):
In the NBA.

Speaker 2 (02:28:13):
They preferred two three two because it's fewer flights. Right,
there's so few people traveling now to these mega events.
It's only the national folks and they have to do it.

Speaker 3 (02:28:22):
Anyway.

Speaker 2 (02:28:23):
I think we stay right there too, too. I think
we say two three two because baseball is full of series.
It's not that you know what I'm saying. I don't
mind two three two.

Speaker 3 (02:28:32):
I don't either.

Speaker 1 (02:28:33):
All right, let's go to uh tim before we get
to believe it or not today at one high tim.

Speaker 6 (02:28:40):
It's Kim and it's in Galveston, and it's beautiful down
here by the way.

Speaker 1 (02:28:44):
Oh you know I love Galveson.

Speaker 11 (02:28:47):
You know that.

Speaker 1 (02:28:47):
I'm mister Texas right.

Speaker 6 (02:28:50):
God feeling is we don't come on, man, you can
do out.

Speaker 3 (02:28:57):
There, You can do it.

Speaker 1 (02:28:58):
Go ahead, Okay.

Speaker 6 (02:29:01):
The bottom line is, Matt, I'm pretty sure you got
in trouble when you went and sat in the car
when your wife was in there shopping for clothes.

Speaker 2 (02:29:07):
You know, No, no, she actually respected because when when
you are you married? I asked him or camer whatever,
hell your name is? Oh you're okay?

Speaker 6 (02:29:16):
Thirty years?

Speaker 1 (02:29:17):
You haven't married or not been.

Speaker 6 (02:29:18):
Married thirty years. And I would never pull a trick
like that.

Speaker 2 (02:29:22):
Oh no, no, because she's going to spend money that
she doesn't have to look at me, look at my
watch saying we are we gonna leave here soon. You
get in the car, you put the radio on. If
you're on your phone, you can tilt the chair back,
take a nap. Oh, I'm I'm all for staying in
the car. I'm team staying in the car.

Speaker 6 (02:29:38):
Do you do realize that most of those places like
serve Champagne. Now mmm, uh, not that I don't know
where you're going, but I ain't going to J. C.
Penny or Jacques Piney Jacques Pinett.

Speaker 2 (02:29:51):
Well, look at you, humble bracking about the money you're
spending on your wife's clothes.

Speaker 3 (02:29:54):
Good for you.

Speaker 1 (02:29:54):

Speaker 1 (02:30:20):
We're gonna go get some. They're gonna need some.

Speaker 2 (02:30:22):
Because I think from oh if I got to do
a baseball thing, from thank you for the phone call,
Kim Jim Tim, I think Fromber's Gone, I would not
rely on Atlance mccollor's. It's Hunter Brown, Christian Javier and
a bunch of who's gonna fill the rest of the motive.
They're gonna sign somebody. Okay, Right, we've portrayed, we've been
trying to tease on this and that's my fault. So

hundred and twenty seven million dollars. Who real quick on
the list. Kyle Schwarber two. Uh, Pete Alonzo three from

(02:31:59):
Boba Shet Alex Bregman six? He they're projecting Bregman to
get six one eighty two. Wasn't that what he was
offered from the Astros to begin with? Was it six one,
he's got them and they've got him at six one
eighty two. No, he's like sixty one to fifty six
or something like that. Okay, so he's looking to make
twenty five Rangers Suarez seven, Dylan Ceas number eight. By

(02:32:21):

at ten years, four hundred and twenty seven million.
