Speaker 1 (00:00):
Is The Matt Thomas Show with Ross ten oh two
at h Town. Good morning, and welcome to a Tuesday
edition of The Mat Thomas Show with Ross. This is
Sports Talk seven ninet eight. Are the Texans running on empty?

(00:31):
And is short? I'm back tonight two of our main topics.
On a Tuesday edition of The Mat Thomas Show with Ross.
Jonathan's our producer, Jonathan. You know, I gave myself the
title mister Texas because I love all things Texas. I
love I love Galveston, I love McCallan, I love Amarillo,

(00:54):
Whichita falls El Paso. I can even tolerate mid litt Odessa.
When you walk on the streets of mine, you say,
that's where mister Texas hung out. I'm also the Texans insider,
and I need my flowers, and so today, if anybody

(01:17):
calls the show, Jonathan between now and two o'clock, if
anybody refers to me as mister Texas early on, please
put them at the top of the list, because that's
the proper credit I should get. Well, he said, because
there were so many water carriers for the Texans that
were saying mass sourses say he'll be just fine. Remember

(01:39):
how grouchy. Uh Dmiko Ryan's got when somebody brought him up,
He's fine. I want people around here and care about
our people. Respeam, respect my team, respect my players. Worried
we respect your team? I as sure as hell respect
Tomiko Ryans. It's a good football coach. He's got a

(02:01):
number one running back. It's out. And when Nick Chubb
signed here, I was like, Okay, lightning in a bottle.
It happens a lot of times. Hell, the astro has
been trying to catch lightning a ball with about ten
different players this year. So it happens, but it's not
gonna be pretty at least early on. Texans have four

(02:25):
weeks whether he must miss. Then there's a buye I
think shortly after that, so we're thinking maybe week six
or seven. But remember this, when you want Texans news,
you come to me. When you want it accurate, fair

(02:46):
and balanced. You come to me. If you want someone
taking pictures with the owner of the Texans, there's other
places for you to do that. If you want somebody
cooking burgers with him, you can do that. You want
the information, you want it right, you come to mister
Texas or mister Texans. If you want to whatever you

(03:06):
want to call me, just don't call me late ten
oh seven. It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
Ross is still out in West Texas now again, I
don't know if he's a live or not. His Instagram
is just full of various critics he's sleeping with Yeah,
teach his own on that, and hopefully he'll be back
in a couple of days and hopefully there are no
serious uh snake bites there is that is the case,

(03:31):
and maybe the venom is out. Our buddy Cole Thompson's
gonna hang out with us for a couple hours today
between eleven o'clock until one at eleven thirty. We're gonna
have gut feelings where you guys calling to make your predictions,
and that's where you just simply make sports predictions. We
could get your predictions on jord and Alvarez and how
he's going to do once he does, in fact return
to the Astrals lineup, which could be tonight against Colorado.

(03:54):
We get your predictions on what the Astis are going
to do as a group when they get ready to
play the Karawado Rockies for three games tonight and then
three games over the weekend against the Anaheimer's and then
the Yankees are in for three. We get your predictions
on what the hell's going on with the Texans offensive line,
as apparently they're trying to trade Cam Robinson. They've already

(04:18):
made one change today in their offensive line, and today
is the day where all the cutdowns come into play.
Somebody asked if Kenyon Green could come back. I highly
doubt that, but yeah, there are lots of different things
going on when it comes to offensive linemen that are leaving,

(04:39):
and the reality is either it's a deeper group than
I think that most fans think it is, or the
co or we as observers, or the Texans earn a
world of hurt and we'll run through that for you
on the radio show today. But today, I mean, look,
if you think I'm going to get into four hours
of offensive line, who stays, who ghostuff, that is as

(05:01):
boring as it gets.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
Now.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
Granted, we don't have a game to chew on from
last night, although the Potteris didn't help the Astros out
at all, as the Mariners won that game. So the
Mariners are game and a half in front of the
strow starting the series tonight. But we can certainly get
into what Jurdon's going to bring in the table and
Joe's spottable join us at twelve thirty two discuss. Also today,

(05:25):
Willie Fritz is on the radio show at one thirty
to give us his look at his team for twenty
twenty five and what will be happening hopefully on Thursday
night inside TDCU Stadium as the Cougar start their season
against I believe it's a Rye Technical College or one
of those massy business tech schools. I don't know which
one it is. I can't remember which one it is
we're playing, but it's obviously a very see I can't

(05:48):
I'm not even saying I'm just letting you let that pass.
You just I mean, I could have said a Visible
Changes University, you would just let that go to I
was just waiting. I was waiting for my moments, all right.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
I just want to make sure see how how far
are you're gonna dig your whole enough?

Speaker 1 (06:06):
You know what I mean? You know you're right, You're right,
because let me tell you something again. If the Lumberjacks
somehow pay the officials off and win the game, oh
we already thought not oh, okay, okay, that's fine. Then
I'm gonna be having it take a sick down Friday,
because I will be. I have worn you out for
what two months now on this Basically you can't tell you.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
I know, I gotta you gotta be here because I'm
If you're not here, I'm gonna be talking mess with
the college.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
With you, with the ross. You know, the two of
you will be fair and balanced. Even when I called
it and said.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
You gotta defend Cooking Nation if you lose, now it's
not happening. I'm not sitting here saying that Space wanna
blow you out because no, no, no.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
You didn't say that. You said they were gonna win though, yes, no, no, no,
of course we're gonna win. Jacks Co Jacks Okay, and
you got how many people come to the game, seven
undred and fifty maybe you know.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
Now I'm thinking about it. I think it's gonna be
close to a thousand. I'm seeing the posting.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
I will shoot a photo of and take it for
you to see exactly where they are.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
I's say, good photos. You can't just be like the
start of the game and take an empty.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
And what's what's the clientele? Like a old SFA just
asking for a friend, not for me obviously.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
Mmmm.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
Is it mixed?

Speaker 3 (07:11):
It depends on what if you're into the into the
what the country? Uh m hm like country bar, like
country dance line, blondies?

Speaker 1 (07:23):
Are they physically fit? Mm hmm okay, and then it's
all like a that doesn't sound like a huge endorsement.
One to ten, I'll give you a I'll give you
a five point six point five, six point five. Okay,
that's you know what five. Let me tell you something, Jonathan.
There are a lot of guys that listen to the
show right now that aren't six point fives that would
love to be with a six point five. Acadosa is

(07:45):
where you go, Nacadochas is where you go. Maybe left
Cain is there like a rivalry between Lefkin and acadocias well?
Like high school?

Speaker 3 (07:52):
Yeah, if you're from you don't like Leffkin people and
then Leftkin people don't.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
It's a I didn't get into that. I don't really
know the nowdoor about that, all right. So the rule
of thumb today is if you want to get in
on Joe Mixon being gone for a month and you
wigged out about that I'm here for you if you
want to get into Jordon Alvarez probably in the lineup.
We'll get that confirmed today when Joe A. Spotta joins
at twelve thirty. We'll get into that. Here are the

(08:18):
phone numbers seven one three two one two five seven
nine zero seven one three two one two five seven ninety.
I have a pull question up about Yordon Alvarez that
I want you to answer, and I'll give you the
question and the early results when we return seven one
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven ninety. For you Texans fans,
when you heard about Joe Mixon, were you wigging out

(08:41):
where you're like, this is no surprise. He hadn't even
taken any practice and he snaps and he work out
during the offseason. And I guess now the bigger question
is going to be and whether the Texans tell us
the truth or not. What remains to be seen is
is this something that's going to linger beyond the first
four weeks of the season. Ten thirteen, It's a Matt
Thomas show with Ross. This is Sports Talk. Seven ninety.
Trent Brown was hurt during all the Texans training camp.

(09:04):
You got released today, So I guess the rumors are
if you want to trust the people that do cover
the team legitimately, John Alexander saying that, and I think
Adam Scheffer saying the same thing. And maybe Cam Robinson,
who the Texans sign is a free agent, one year deal,
good money, maybe looking for a place for him to
play because Arianta Ursery has assumed that left tackle spot.

(09:27):
That is a conversation piece the Texans as a general
group about who wasn't gonna want a running back? Do
they keep everybody that's still around? That would include Nick Chubb,
Damian Pierce, Daria Gumble, Woodie Marks. That's four? Is that enough?

(09:48):
I mean, gang, Texans fans, are you all ready for
this defense to carry the team's heavy lifting for the
foreseeable future? I mean, look, Stroud should be better provided
he's held up right. He's got good receivers, He's got

(10:09):
young guys, Nico Collins in his prime. Jayden Higgins is
a good UH acquisition so far via the trap. Jaylen Nowell,
same kind of thing, Christian kirk thing. I think it's
going to be a very good number two or number
three receiver. The tight end battle is going to be
interesting between Dalton Schultz and Kate Stover, who gets more
of the pass catching duties and how much run blocking
plays into that. But this offensive one, I mean all

(10:34):
I kept hearing about how much Blake Fisher sucks, and
I think he's gonna make the team. Blake Fisher, by
the way, a second round pick of twenty twenty four.
Somebody's calling right now and asking about another member of
the Texans, and we'll get to that in a phone
call right now seven to one three two one two

(10:54):
five seven ninety seven to one three two one two
five seven ninety and it says, Terry, you're calling us
from Ohio. Where o'hi are you going Cleveland? What's going
on in Cleveland today? Terry Other trying.

Speaker 5 (11:08):
To buy out Deshaun Watson.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
Oh? Okay, Well, I wish him the very best on that.

Speaker 5 (11:17):
Hey, I got a question for.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
I.

Speaker 5 (11:21):
Do you still living Ashtabula and where the Jews? I
ashta Bill, Ohio? Yeah. I just wondered because I've watched
Juice Scruggs where he's playing for Lakeside. He's still on
the team.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
He's still on the team. He's a backup right.

Speaker 5 (11:40):
Now, Okay, that's all one now.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
Sure appreciate you. So the show got started today, right there, gang,
little juice scrugs call. Remember to our previous caller, even
though you live in Ohio, you got the great fortune
speaking to mister Texas ten twenty on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Why are you cackling back there? I can't even see you,

(12:06):
by the way, I fix it.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
I'm claughing because you're gonna be doing this all day.
I already know what you got validated with this. Now
you're gonna run with this withid Oh.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Are you kidding me? And Ross is gonna is gonna
give me no flowers. I told y'all for months that
he wasn't gonna be ready to go? What was the
other two? That's you?

Speaker 2 (12:24):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (12:24):
The other two again, I told y'all, and I got
I got another one for you, and I'm gonna I'll
tell you right now. I told you that this whole
talk of Laramie Tunsel being a team leader was bogus.
I got that one right. I can't Jonathan, please explain
to all your friends and neighbors what a real Texans
insider is. And that's me, okay. And I also told

(12:45):
you that Stefan Diggs was gonna be one and done
with the Texans. You weren't even here when I said
that that was and I got a new one for you.
Gardner Johnson's a one year and done too with this
team too. You're gonna put your name on it. I'm
I'm not stuttering now, you heard that? Right?

Speaker 6 (13:04):
All right?

Speaker 1 (13:05):
I'm the only one here that's listening. I got I
gotta well. It feels like you're the only one listen
because there's probably no listeners out there. You're probably right
about that. That was kind of rude, but accurate. Meaning
thats on God to remember when you try to deny it,
when rosit, No, we got people listen. I think a couple.
Uh yeah. CJ. Garner Johnson is the one and done two,

(13:26):
So everybody else has there? Fake you lit YouTube pages
with nine subscribers. You come to this radio show tended
to get the textans and insight you desperately need right
here from the Texans and Center sports Talk seven ninety
All right, I did put up a poll question today
and I would love for you guys to answer the question.
You can follow me on Twitter at sports MT and

(13:46):
the question is this tell me how you're feeling about
your non And here we are again, assuming that he
is going to be ready tonight. Well, and I'm gonna
I'm gonna poke the bear right away, said Joe. Are
you He's gonna go, madam?

Speaker 7 (14:01):
Fine?

Speaker 1 (14:01):
How are you? Is what I'm playing. Let's ask question
is how are you feeling about yourd on A your
options are so excited I'll wait and see or very
low expectations right now, I'll wait and see. Comes in
at forty eight percent. That's almost like the nice neutral answer.

(14:21):
Don't you think so excited as forty three percent? Don't
be too negative, don't be too positive, right right, You're
just you're you're you know what you are, You're measured.
That's probably the term I would you used to middle answer,
and the last one only has nine percent, has very
low expectations. So there you go. Get your vote in.
We've got the pull up for another nine hours or so,

(14:43):
seven to ten. First pitch with Astros on Decats six
right here on the sports Talk set. Any now, the
Astros are gonna have to make a roster move with
this too, so I'll be very curious to see what
they do on that if somebody gets sent down, could
it be could Cam Smith get sent Yeah, I don't know.
You have a little bit of a log jam in
the outfield. Could somebody find themselves on the injured list

(15:06):
with some sort of ailment? You don't know. And you
also are going to put yourself in a very peculiar
spot because of the fact that your on it. I'm
going to presume is gonna be playing a lot of DH.
But your primary DH over the last couple of months
has been your favorite all time player and the greatest
aster of all time, jose Al Tuve. So another thing

(15:27):
to kind of wiggle for the manager of the Astros.
And I'm sure he's got a plan. I mean, smart guy,
But do you really move Cam Smith down? After all
he's helped out with this season. That's a great point,
that's a great question. The question is what does he
What does a stint down at Triple A going to
do it?

Speaker 8 (15:45):
Now?

Speaker 1 (15:45):
He can be playing more, right, That's that's the obvious thing.
Right as he can go down there get his mojo back,
the pressure would be as anything as compared to what
it is at a major league level. But do you
what does that do for his psyche of all of
a sudden, you have made the team coming out of
spring training, and you played in March, and you played

(16:07):
in April, and you played in June and July, and
you're about to hit September, the most important part of
the year. And the Astros have said, we're bringing in
this new guy. Heyesu Sanchez has been with us since
the trade deadline, and because of his performance, not because
there's personal favorites, but it's just because of the performance,
we're gonna give him the opportunity to be the every
day right fielder. You know, this is a in some respects,

(16:32):
it's a good problem to have, but in other respects,
you really wish that camp Smith would be able to
be so good that it wouldn't have even been a
conversation piece problem. Has he not been that good and
he's really struggled the last you say, forty five days
give or tank, Yeah, yeah, lasts of months. Yeah, it's
not been good at all. And I like Cam Smith.
Y'all like Cam Smith. He's easy to root for. Young kid.

(16:55):
I mean, remember year plus ago he's playing college baseball
Florida State. Now he's playing in the big leagues, trying
to make you know, here's a guy who was a
third baseman. The presumption was when he was with the
Cubs organization. He comes here and he's like Brady's is
already here, so he don't need a third baseman. And
then you trade for Carlos Craye who moves to third base.
Cam Smith has been playing right field, and I mean,

(17:16):
if you would have grade his work as a third
basement as a as a right fielder this year, if
expectations were zero, he gets a hundred for me. He's
been absolutely fantastic. He's making his cutoff throws, he's not
taking bad routes. He's met a couple of good, nice grabs.
But it's only half the game. And right now his

(17:38):
bat our lack thereof, has hurt him in terms of playing.
Plus Sanchez's fielding is what positioned well. Think about all
the home runs he saved in Baltimore just alone, Yeah,
over the weekend seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven
nine zero. So the two main topics on the board

(17:58):
today and again, and our buddy Cole Thompson's going to
come in about a half an hour from now, what
are your expectations of Jordan Alvarez? And even though I'm
mister Texas, mister Texas can be wrong. Mister Texas, did
not believe that Ordon Alvarez is going to hit a
home run for the local nine between now and me
in the year. And remember, if I give it, I
must take it as well. I fully expect you and

(18:21):
Ross do not hand me my flowers to give me old, old, musty,
disgusting flowers that are old and smell and have mold
on them when he goes deep for the first time.
My Twitter cap better be innudated with all. Mister Texas,
you got it wrong. I hope I did. I hope
I'm wrong. That uron is impactful, whether it's tonight or

(18:44):
the next three days, or for that matter, any point
of the next month. Staying healthy and lengthening the Astros
lineup is the most important thing. Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven ten thirty two Watch Talk seven ninety
I'm Matt Ross is off today. If you would like

(19:05):
to follow me on Twitter, I greatly appreciate that at
sports MT If you want to follow me on Instagram,
you can do that as well. Oh Jonathan, you're screening
is back. Nice to see you. It was working man
technology here at the old seven ninety is amazing, all right.
Cole Thompson's gonna stop by hanging out with us a
couple of hours eleven o'clock until one, and then we've
got Willie Fritz at one thirty. We got Gut Feelings

(19:26):
at eleven thirty, and Joe A Spota at twelve thirty.
So we have a very busy show today. We want
you guys involved though, because I do like talking to
you seven one three two one two five seven eighty.
You know we don't always agree. I like talking to you.
Are some fable nice people seven one three two one
two five seven ninety Roger ten thirty three on seven
Hunty Roger, good morning, Good.

Speaker 7 (19:49):
Morning, Matt. It's got a concern about yourd on, Not
really concerned.

Speaker 1 (19:55):
I believe the.

Speaker 7 (19:56):
Guys fought on me here today. I think I was
a prey n strategic news considering that the competition isn't
very far from what he's seeing now in the Colorado Rockies.
So that kind of like puts him inside the pool
via the steps instead of jumping all the way in.
So I think that's a nice way of introducing back

(20:17):
into the the MLD.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
Well, here's the thing, Roger, if it was the Yankees
playing today, I'd still want him to start. I don't
think there's it happens to be a nice segue, but
it's just purely coincidental because you know, they need him
back in the lineup.

Speaker 7 (20:31):
Hence what I said that that's what they were thinking.

Speaker 9 (20:34):
Me and you.

Speaker 7 (20:34):
We wanted him back in the few weeks ago. We
wanted him back in there when we started swinging, which
we didn't think we're ever going to see it because
we just had to go. We don't. We don't believe
anything we hear and honey, half of what we see.
So that's what you got to do. How you got
to take it if yourd on. But you know, the
result that I'm really concerned about is not really how
it goes today. I'm I'm sure you'll get He'll get

(20:56):
a couple of swings in here and there, make some
nice contact hopefully. Uh, the result is how he feels
the next day. That's That's what's what I'm going with.
And uh, that's really how it's gonna go. How he
feels the next day until you know the end of
the playoffs, so they just have to see it. Yes,
the odd man out not very much of an odds.

(21:17):
Melton's gotta go.

Speaker 1 (21:19):
Melt for sure, anyway, that's right, you're right, you're right. Yeah,
I forgot about Jake and Mount. I was just thinking
off the top of my head. I again, I don't
think they want to move cam Smith. I don't know
how much good you would actually get out of it,
but Melton's the is easy call for.

Speaker 7 (21:32):
Sure, Yes, sir, all right, have a good one, guys.

Speaker 1 (21:35):
Thanks, Roger, appreciate you. Listen seven one three two one
two five seven nine zero seven one three two one
two five seven Yeah, meltin now you you do lose
a center field in the mix. Now remember this. Things
could get even a little more interesting if Jake Myers

(21:58):
is back in say the next ten days, two weeks.
Speaking of that, of guys coming back, Johnathan, I need
your help on something here because I didn't know how
to interpret this. I didn't know that Essak Parredes had
an Instagram account. Mean he doesn't follow me, he should
uh at sports MT but he put up a uh

(22:24):
what do you call it? A reel, and he put
up a reel and I don't even know that if
he runs his own account or not. Okay, I I
couldn't even tell you. Some guy named jet dot Leo
eight eight oh two put up a Instagram photo. It
said out for season with a photo of him Underneath it,

(22:46):
it said coming soon exclamation point, exclamation point, exclamation point
stronger dot dot dot. Would you like to try to
interpret that or is it not worth even by the interpreting?

Speaker 3 (23:01):
So he said that he's out for this season. That
was a post, and then he said coming back stronger
dot dot dot.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
Yes, this is this is east Side Perettes. This is
this guy jet dot Leo, jet dot Leo. When you
when someone says coming soon, that means that that would
be the opposite of out for season, correct, right.

Speaker 3 (23:24):
And saying coming back stronger as in like anticipate because
I'm gonna get back for a playoff season.

Speaker 1 (23:28):
Type of thing, or well, I'm not even reading that.
I'm just saying some dude named jet dot Leo eight
eight oh two says out for season and then donald
below it says coming soon exclamation exclamation exclamation stronger, dot
dot dot. I'm gonna have to. I don't know. I
wasn't going to ask the skip about it, but I

(23:51):
kind of want to this. You know, is there anything
about that hamstring pull whatever it is that remember he
took that that shot instead of having served.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
Yeah, so that's the thing, because I mean I've I've known,
even just in track, I've seen people take that shot
and be fine the next couple like just for.

Speaker 1 (24:08):
As that shot take to kind of start to kick in.

Speaker 3 (24:11):
It's like like a week or two because it's after
you get it, it's very you're very sorry, you're out,
like it's it's gonna mess up your body a little bit,
and then you that pain should go away after. Okay,
So so but we don't know how bad it was still, right,
we don't know how bad that that's right. You know,
we don't know if he's trained it and tear it.
So I don't I'm not too sure. Okay, So you I.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
You're as confused as I am. That's fine. I can
live with that.

Speaker 3 (24:34):
But I mean, they we're so close to a Pennant race.
I mean, it could be a possibility he really is
trying to get back before.

Speaker 1 (24:39):
Well, I think I think he took the shot for
that only. For that reason, that one reason only is
that he's thinking, if I have a chance to try
to come back and play for this team this year,
and I know that surgery won't allow me to do it,
but this shot might. I mean, his bat's missed. It's
been missed. That's there's no infans or butts about that.
But the problem is you've already got a third basement, right,

(25:02):
And I guess you could bring him back and he
can play another infield position, but that's not something I
would think a guy that's been gone for a while
would want to do, especially since he's been playing third base.
I don't know. I'm going to have to inquire from
the skipper to see if I should read anything into that.
Let's say hello to Gary on seven ninety ten thirty nine, Gary,

(25:23):
good morning, Hey.

Speaker 6 (25:25):
Good morning guys. A good show as usual. Hey, I
wanted to mention when you open the show up, I
think you did a little food pac Orse Foo among
us is perfect. But I think when you were talking
about the Astros and Mariners, you mentioned that the Mariners
were game and a half up.

Speaker 1 (25:41):
Oh right, well, I think yeah, that's.

Speaker 6 (25:44):
Okay. I've been known to miss miss hear some things.
But anyway, I just want to bring that to your attention.
Have they announced that Albarez is back in the squad?

Speaker 1 (25:54):
No, not officially, Okay.

Speaker 6 (25:57):
Yeah, I just don't understand that so long. Really stupid dude,
I don't, and.

Speaker 1 (26:03):
They don't have to, because remember he played on Sunday,
and you know he had yesterday, the entire organization a
day off, so if they were going to do something,
they probably would do it before today's game, so I
don't necessarily think it's uh an indictment. Remember also, he
could also woken up on Monday and said, oh my
hands hurt, I'm not ready to go just yet.

Speaker 6 (26:22):
So they didn't say how after playing Sunday, how his
recovery on Monday.

Speaker 1 (26:25):
No, they had, they had no media availability at all yesterday.

Speaker 6 (26:29):
Wow, that's that's insane. What were you asking earlier before
the last commercial about if he when he comes back,
how many home runs when they hit or what were
you asking?

Speaker 1 (26:38):
Well, I had I had no expectations about his return
at all this year, so I'm going to be wrong
about that. The question was how many home runs is he?

Speaker 8 (26:46):
Is?

Speaker 9 (26:46):
He?

Speaker 1 (26:47):
Is he going to hit between now and the end
of the season. Nobody knows that many games. I think
about thirty. I think thirty or so. Let me look
at the numbers.

Speaker 9 (26:54):
Here.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
They are at one hundred and thirty one games left.

Speaker 6 (26:59):
Okay, Dick, barring any swelling of the hands or anything else,
I perdict he'll hit between four and six, so somewhere
around five.

Speaker 1 (27:08):
Hmm. Well, if that's the case, I would take five
home runs. Thank you for the phone call. I would
absolutely take five home runs. Think about that. And here's
the crazy thing about it is a gang, and we
get we get caught up in this a little bit.
I certainly do, and everybody else does. It's not even
really about what he does with his home run numbers.

(27:30):
It's does he get hits? Does he drive the ball
to the alleys? Does he get does he hit doubles?
Do the ball? Does he hit for slug Because adding
him to the lineup in the heart of the lineup,
instead of those runners on a base hit going from
first to second to second and third, maybe one of

(27:51):
that that runner and second base scores every time. Or
maybe if there's a double that with a decent guy
on with decent speed at first base, he scores That's
the thing that's the most impressive thing about him is
I don't need him to hit a bunch of home runs.
I just need him to get on the base. First
of all, get hit that's the most important thing. And two,
if he can deal with some power, that'd be even great.

Speaker 8 (28:11):
Now.

Speaker 1 (28:12):
He did have a bunch of doubles at Corpus Christi
over the last handful of days, but again that was
against double A pitching. But my guess is a fastball
is a fastball. It's the off speed stuff that separates
what a major league pitcher can do is compared to
say a double A pitcher. Sliders, breaking balls, change ups,
that kind of thing. But just do something in terms

(28:36):
of slugs so that heart of that order becomes a
more of a threat than it has been at times.
I mean, moving Christian Walker back of spot is going
to help the cause. Moving yard Air Diaz back a
spot is going to help the cause. And you know,
if it draws some more walks from other people, if

(28:57):
the way the world is not on Christian Walker's shoulders
for the last month the season, that'd be a good thing.
If er Diezk is a better sixth place Heather than
he has been is either a four or five. It's
a win win for us as well. And ultimately, as
I mention brought up yesterday, I was looking about that
lineup one to six pretty good, actually really good. Most

(29:18):
teams don't have great seven through nine, and if you do,
you're probably winning one hundred and ten games. But it
feels like to me one to six, if your hon
is playing on a fairly regular basis, that's as good
as this lineup has been this entire season ten four,
especially with some of the guys away. They're playing the
way that Christian Walker has swung about the last month
or so, in the fact that Carlos Krey has been

(29:38):
a huge asset offensively as well. Seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven to one to three, two,
one two, five seven ninety in is cut down to
day in the NFL. You've got until three o'clock. I
don't know if any of you are sitting there staring
at your Twitter accounts to see who's getting cut who's
sticking around. But the big news for me was about
what happened yesterday in the announcement was made that Joe

(30:02):
Mixon will not be available for the first four weeks
of the season. Is that a precursor to he just
needs some additional time or is it a situation where
it's going to be longer than four weeks and the
Texans have just not wanted to tell us that. Remember,
these sports organizations I'm talking about football, basketball, baseball have
done a remarkably good job in the last ten years

(30:23):
or so, in particular by not telling us Jack Squat
and having his guess because I guess they're trying to
hide intelligence. I don't know how much different the RAMS
game plan is with Joe Mixon as compared to Nick Chubb.
Let me say say there's a fair amount, But I

(30:43):
think the Rams, when they knew that Joe Mixon wasn't
taking part of any training camp activities or any offseason
training activities, they they had a pretty good feeling that
Joe Mixon was going to be around for Game one
in Los Angeles seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven to one three two one two five seven. Anymore,
if you want to react to the Texans releasing guard

(31:06):
Ladarius Henderson, you may do so at seven one three
two one two five seven nint eighty. Those of you
that are playing at homegoing who Ladarius Henderson was? He
was a seventh round pick of the Texans uh in
this draft No. Twenty four. Excuse me, So thoughts and
prayers of the Henderson family hope he can finds where

(31:28):
at work somewhere else. Ladarius Henderson is out among the
Texans cuts. I have no idea what the possible say,
except again, we wish you the very best Henderson family.
All right, So you guys know that I've listened to
the show for any length of time that I unfortunately
spend too much time on the for you tab. It's

(31:50):
in Jonathans are shaking his head, and I'm like, you're right,
you should be shaking your head. It's embarrassing, but I can't.
I don't want to follow a lot of people because
this is a lot of junk and it just muddies
up my timeline for people that do actually want to
follow in terms of news headlines and whatnot. And so
the four you tab for the last thirty six hours
has been about Shador Sanders and today is at ten

(32:14):
to fifty one on Tuesday, the twenty sixth of August.
Would you say we've spent I don't know in the
last since training camp open in the NFL. Maybe a
minute and a half on Shador Sanders, maybe two minutes. Again,
we're barely at NFL town when it comes to Texans.

(32:37):
To get into a deep dive about the quarterback depth
chart in Cleveland doesn't necessarily make the needle move for
this radio show, at least in my opinion, it doesn't.
The reason why I bring it up is is we
have found ourselves going to the national narrative way too
much on stuff, and they're just pushing stuff down our throats.

(33:00):
And that's why I I. You know, I used to
be a big, big watcher BESPN in the morning to
kind of get the vibe of what was going on
in terms of, hey, what is this a talking point?
Is this something of interest? And then I and then
I one day about a month ago, said what am
I doing here? Because I feel like we're a family
on this show, in our little ten to two spot,

(33:22):
and I know that we are heavy about the local teams,
especially the Astros and to a lesser extent, the Rockets
and the Texans, and hopefully the Rockets will be more
of a note if they really play well this year
and obviously with my affiliation with him, but I would
catch myself turning on the Four Letter Network or Fox
or FS one, whatever it is, and it's the regurgitation

(33:44):
of Jerry Jones, Micah Parsons, Dak Prescott, Aaron Rodgers, Shador Sanders,
and I thought to myself, and I've told this other
people before on the show before, that's why I want
to do national talk radio. That's not any fun to
get into. That's just that's exasperating. So if you were

(34:09):
looking for a deep conversation into your door, I do
want to apologize because I'm not here for it. I'm
not here for a one hour visit with you about
whether or not a fifth round draft pick should be
the starting quarterback of a team that's one thousand miles
away from us. What I'm here for is did Nick

(34:33):
Cassario really let his quarterback down by bringing in these lines?
I mean Cam Robinson. He paid a lot of money
for Cam Robinson. And are we really sure that Ed
Ingram and Titus Howard are going to be able to

(34:54):
protect his strong side? Are we really sure that arianta
ursa second round pick about to make his first NFL start,
is really going to protect the backside at left tackle.
That to me, my friends, is if if you were,
if you're a diehard Texan fan or at least a

(35:16):
mid Texans fan, forgetting about who's on up front of
that offensive line. It's is that collective group going to
be able to keep your quarterback alive? Add on top
of the fact you've got a run? I mean, did
Nick the Nick Chubb addition was okay? But it wasn't

(35:36):
necessarily a one two punch. It wasn't you know, Uh,
it wasn't Aaron Foster to Alfred Blue going back about
ten or ten years ago with the Texans, Right, that
was a decent, good one two punch, Right, I don't
think Joe Mixon to Nick Chubb was the was the

(35:58):
big one two punch said, I think any Texans fans
would be excited about. And now that first half of
that punch is going to be gone for the first
month of the year. Did the Texans not treat that
running back room with enough love? Did the team spend
too much time grabbing wide receivers in a second round
or the third round when they could have gone after

(36:19):
more offensive lineman or maybe another running back. Now this
is always hindsight here on this. I'm not going to
tell you that I knew the answers to this, and
I never would try I tell you this, but the
question marks about this team going into the twenty twenty
five season. The offensive line is even a bigger question mark.

(36:39):
Even though larm Me tunsel is I didn't think it
was a great player, but he was a good player.
He was best with the head. You're replacing him with
a rookie who has never taken a real NFL snap before,
and your starting center from last year has now been benched.
He's a swing. You've got Jake Andrews coming in Lake
and Tomlinson. I mean, it's not giving me a whole

(37:04):
lot of confidence. No One is going and saying wow,
love of the Texans in on the offensive line. In fact,
Adam Schefter said just the opposite. He's like, what is
going on with this Sexans offensive line? Add on top
of the fact you don't have your number one running
back now, if you're just generally excited about the start
of the season, I understand that, But how you could

(37:26):
be excited about the offensive maneuvers have been made here
with the core parts of the offensive line still a
huge question mark and who is going to carry the
load at running back after Joe makes It was so
good last year that to me outweighs the excitement of Wow,
I can't wait to see what Jalen Noel does, or
Jayden Higgins Jaden Higgins or what Christian Kirk could be

(37:49):
is a number two receiver. Complimentary Nico Collins because my guess,
those old guys can run routes. They've done very good
in rookie so far in training camp, in the limit
of time we've seen him play in preseason games, they've
been good. But it's about to get real a week
from Sunday, and I don't feel like the number one
thing we were worried about before the season even began

(38:11):
and talking about an offseason has been addressed, Especially when
you spend all that money on Cam Robinson, who's a
unretricted free agency not even a one year contract to
come here to Minnesota, and you're trying to ship him
off because a rookie who's never played left tackle before
at the NFL level took your spot, took a spot

(38:32):
you are Texans, Are y'all winging out a little bit?
Or you're like man We trust Amiko, we trust Nikki
c And as long as this offensive line is just decent,
CJ is going to have a bounce back year in
year number three. The receivers are gonna do a great
job and we're gonna catch lightning in a bottle with
Nick Chubb or Damian Pierce, if you signed this football team,

(38:55):
is going to be the guy that he was of
a couple of years ago. I don't know. It feels
like there's just as many questions about this squad as
there was before the draft even took place and free
agency began. All right, second hour, We've got gut feelings
coming up in a half an hour from now. If
you have any gut feelings about anything in sports related,
we want those for you. And a half an hour,

(39:16):
we have Joe Spotted at twelve thirty and Willie Fritz
at one thirty. It's ten to fifty nine. It's a
Matt Thomas Show with Ross. Our buddy Cole's gonna stop
in for a couple of hours and hang out with us.
Next here on seven ninety is the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross Spot. So a lot of people on social

(39:37):
media call when somebody returns or somebody pitches happy whatever day.
I haven't said happy yord on day once. I hope
you're okay with that, Cole, Why would I care? Well,
I don't know. It's I don't know. It just schemes
happy happy yord on day, Matt, tom, I don't do it.
I just told you not to do it.

Speaker 10 (39:55):
No, you said you're not gonna do it. Yes, you
are okay, happy forty four day?

Speaker 1 (40:00):
You excited? I got Cole Thompson fanboy in here, all right,
it's fine. Why not listen?

Speaker 10 (40:04):
We get to see hopefully a healthy Ran Alvarez yes,
come back into the lineup, provide evidence that he has
turned the corner. Yes against the worst team in Major
League Baseball.

Speaker 1 (40:13):
They're awful. That is going to break the.

Speaker 10 (40:15):
Record that the Chicago White Sox set last year, which
I'm excited about because my dad's a White Sox fan.

Speaker 1 (40:20):
So now that tradition is going to go. Your dad
is a Tommy's a White Sox fan. Yeah, for those
who don't know, his dad flies around. And that was
on the Rockets plane, which is really cool. Yppotism right here, exactly,
it's fine. Whatever And wait a minute, how do you
he is he a south side Chicago guy. He grew
up in Northwest Indiana, Okay, so that counts. Yeah.

Speaker 10 (40:41):
So he would take the train in from Gary every
single weekend to go to Chicago White Sox game with
d Yeah.

Speaker 1 (40:46):
It is funny. If you are you are usually a
fan depending on two things, what your dad was or
what part of town you grew up in. Yeah, so
there you go.

Speaker 10 (40:55):
We grew up in Houston, moved here when I was two.
Ben an Astro's life longer. It's one of the only
few teams that I openly allow my fandom to take over.
I do not allow anything else to kind of weigh
it out. If they stink, I'm in a bad moon.
If they're great, I feel awesome like that. That's me
and they're gonna feel awesome tonight when they obliterate the Rockies,
and hopefully.

Speaker 1 (41:16):
Now you know their record against sub five hundred teams
isn't spectacular.

Speaker 10 (41:19):
I also know that the Rockies are a dumpster fire
with pitching, regardless of whether they're at Course Field is
a joke of a stadium or on the right, it's not.

Speaker 1 (41:26):
A joker fantastic stadium. There are shutouts being thrown on
that facility. I used to. I watched Greg Maddox or
a complete game shoutout one there one time right, and
he was with two there you go exactly fair enough.

Speaker 10 (41:37):
But maybe this will be the euron Alvarez that we
want to see, and hopefully when he comes back, we'll
see Joe Mixon do the exact same thing not miss
a beat.

Speaker 1 (41:45):
So you basically segue you're onto Joe Mixon in all
in one sentence. There, good for you. Listen, I'm learning
on the fly. I'm able to pick up some of
the stuff. How do you feel? And physically I'm okay.
I can get a lot of sleep last night. That's fantastic.
Oh you're asking about other things. I think I'm asking
about the Texans right now. Uh. Well, see how do

(42:06):
I put this? Uh? When the season I make predictions
every year about things, and I think I make the
same predictions about them every single year. Ten and seven
win one playoff game out in the second round. I
probably said that six months ago when the season ended.
Last year, I probably said that three months ago. And

(42:28):
even though the situation is not great with Joe Mixon,
even though the offensive line is certainly a work in progress,
even perhaps more so than it was in the end
of last year because Alicia had Larmy Tunsel. It feels
like to me, it's not ten and seven because they're
ten and seven good. It's because the division in which
they're in is atrocious and they're gonna probably win five

(42:50):
of their six games against division foes, which puts them
at five and one, and then you're gonna win five
more among the rest of the teams you play, and
you don't think that that's possible.

Speaker 10 (42:58):
And if you don't think that that's possible, then on
a want to tell you because this team, in my opinion,
and I said this when they hired Nick Kayley, the
offensive line is going to be better. Something else is
gonna be a liability to where they finished ten to seven.
I don't know what that is. Maybe it's the wide
receiver spot. You have Nico Collins. He's awesome, top five
player at the position. The contract every single day looks

(43:20):
better after seeing what Terry McLaurin signed for yesterday, which,
by the way, this is why Nick Cassario is smart
to get ahead of the curve when it's time to
pay these players, to guarantee that the contract always looks beneficial.
But maybe you don't get that with Jaden Higgins. Maybe
it's a year of rebuilding m Christian Kirk. Maybe you
don't get that for the tight end spot, even if
the offensive line is better. What are we going to

(43:40):
see from a full Nick Chubb? Because again, he looked
great in those five carries for twenty five yards. What
are we going to see now with twenty carries in
a game. Is it going to be four point four
yards of play? It's gonna be three point three yards
of play. What do you feel about Damian Pierce? How
do you feel about dar Agumbwallee. I just feel like that,
even though I do have a lot more faith in
this offensive line, I'm looking at a ten and seventeen

(44:01):
and you said it it's because of the division. Five
wins automatically and maybe even six because you got Daniel
Jones as your starting quarterback cam Ward, who I never
believed in when he was coming out of Miami.

Speaker 1 (44:13):
And wow, you're a tough critic. Guy. I ain't taking
a snap yet you're already condoning him. I did listen.
First overall quarterback taken. That was cool.

Speaker 10 (44:21):
He is the least talked about number one overall pick
for a reason. There's a reason for that. He is
not meant to be a number one overall pick. The
Titans just tamed a quarterback. They got Trevor Lawrence, which
we have no idea what they're gonna be Donald Jacksonville,
you could be six and zero in the division, win
four more games. They were going to be four, three
and one in my opinion going into that Week five matchup,

(44:41):
regardless of if they had Joe mis or not. So
it's like, that doesn't change my opinion. And honestly, if
you're worried about where the Texans are right now without
Joe Mixon, you got to be much more worried about
where the Texans were with Joe Mixing, because in my opinion,
I think they're running that group will be fine. If
you still think that Joe Mixon was going to be
the backbone of your team, you had major issues surrounding

(45:03):
the seconds organization going into twenty twenty five.

Speaker 1 (45:08):
But that's crazy because Dimiko hasn't changed his tune about
how important running backs are and he still would like
to be a run first offense. Now that could be
lip service and clearly it's going to have to be
the last time that Nick Chubb carried the ball twenty
times in a game. You rush for fifty nine yards.
I don't think he rushes twenty times in a game.

(45:28):
That's my thing.

Speaker 10 (45:29):
First, let's start off the bat. I think that you're
seeing fifteen to seventeen at most. Any So, then does
Damian Pierce if he makes the team. I'm going to
presume he's making the team. I would assume at this point.
The better question is do you carry five running backs
or four? Damian Pierce is one of the four. It's
do you add in like a British Brooks because of
what he offers on special teams?

Speaker 1 (45:47):
But no, Damian Pierce making the team?

Speaker 8 (45:49):
Yep?

Speaker 2 (45:50):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (45:50):
And who is that second running back? And does he offset?
Is there an explosiveness to that, because look, I do
not want to bring up what Nick chubbed in his
one preaches in game it you want to.

Speaker 10 (46:06):
You don't want to overreact to that one game against
the worst defense in the NFL from last year.

Speaker 1 (46:10):
Well, I mean no, I'm not gonna do that. Why
it's fun, that's what we did for No, no, no, no, no, no,
no no, not this one I'm not mister of erection.
I'm mister rational. It's well I'm in mister Texas and
I'm coming up with rational conversation. Uh so, there, there
you have it. And from Cole's thought is again and
I don't I don't want to be ten and seven, guy,
But they were going to be ten and seven with

(46:31):
Joe Mixon. They're gonna be ten and seven without him?
Or are they not? I mean, because if you're asking
CJ to throw twenty eight times a game, thirty two
times in the game, and you are not on the
and you are having to find yourselves in third and long,
you're then asking Arianta Ursery who again, people cannot brag
enough about. Guy's got the moxie, he looks the part.

(46:52):
He's been awesome. Yeah. Yes, he's allowed to growing pains,
he's allowed to give up a sack. Problem is does
he learned from it? My guess is yes. And seems
like a smart kid understands the sport. But nobody goes
from being a high end college player to leading a
left tackle, the most important spot on the offensive line.

(47:13):
And there's no and there's a seamless transition.

Speaker 10 (47:15):
Let me push back just a little bit, because if
I agree with you, there's reasons to allow him to
grow and flourish and have those lumps and growing pains.
There are the thing that I worry about more than
anything else. When you're the best offensive lineman as a
rookie on a playoff team, that's a problem. Yeah, Arianta
Orseri right now is the best offensive lineman on a

(47:35):
playoff team going into Week one, and he's yet to
play an actual professional snap that's counted towards his NFL career.

Speaker 1 (47:42):
And if they move Cam Robinson because I don't want
to carry a guy's making twelve million dollars this year
not the play What you thought about that? Actually, I
meant to ask you. Well, part of me goes, I
appreciate nobody looking at the contract. Yeah, part of me
does that. The other part of me is like, who
signed off on him making twelve million dollars for one
year for a guy that didn't even make the team

(48:04):
that night he made the team? Excuse me? That is
being thought about it being traded and on top of it,
not going to be in the starting lineup on opening night.

Speaker 10 (48:11):
Presumably I appreciate the fact that Nick Cassario is willing
to move off of a guy to where he can
get that draft compensation so long as the money works
for it, right, because of what it's saying is you
have faith that ariantae Ersrie, if he's healthy, is the
best option for you at the most important position on
that offensive line. The thing is is that what is

(48:31):
going to be the most valuable asking price to give
up on a player who, yes, is very expensive, but
is certainly an upgrade over what you have at offensive
tackle waiting behind him.

Speaker 1 (48:42):
Can the NFL players? Can the Texans pay part of
his salary? Yeah, they can't, because there's no way in
the world that any NFL team is going to take
a guy that has presumably past his prime making double
digit salaries for one season.

Speaker 10 (48:54):
So they'll take that price for a seventh round pick.
But what's the point of taking on a seventh round
pick for a guy that may need to start in
a couple of games for you the season that's rights where?

Speaker 1 (49:02):
Because I versary does it does have deer in headlights
moments You can't You just can't be start. Plus again,
your backups are either hurt or not very good. You're
scared to death about the depth and.

Speaker 10 (49:14):
You just cut Trent Brown, so that was already announced
today that he is not going to be a part
of this team. So your next backup is Blake Fisher
and Jalen Thomas. At this point, you're asking the wrong person.
What my point being is that it doesn't matter who
I say. That's a problem when you don't have ariance
ursery out there to begin with, So you better get
something in return that is worth moving off of Camp Robinson,

(49:37):
because yeah, twelve million dollars for a swing tackle.

Speaker 1 (49:39):
Is ridiculously expensive.

Speaker 10 (49:41):
That's probably the most expensive swing tackle in the history
of the NFL. But when you're a playoff team in
a winnable division that you have owned the last two years,
I'd much rather feel confident in paying that twelve million
dollars if I'm only getting a six round pick in return.

Speaker 1 (49:54):
Well, you need depth. And that's why I do not
suggest the moving Robinson. I mean, I can't look, this
isn't about Callan Hannah going. You can't be paying this
guy this money, he said on the bench. This is
about his finangling of the salary. Capito. Maybe have some
room later in the year, right.

Speaker 10 (50:09):
I think if you want to make a trade or
because this is what happens every single offseason, somebody that
we didn't expect to get cut gets cut and they
go through the waiver wire. If they do well enough
in that first game, yes, I'm to a one year
extension afterwards, and they're part of your long term future.

Speaker 1 (50:24):
And oh, by the way, Tannas Howard doesn't stay upright
for six seventeen weeks a year process say healthy, his
entire career since he's been here.

Speaker 10 (50:29):
So now you're putting a lot more pressure on having
Ariance Ersery not only be the guy. But let's say
you do keep Cam Robinson, what he is your next plan?
Are you going to move Cam to the right side
or Ariante Ersrie, who going into practice was viewed as
a right tackle. So there's a lot of moving parts
with that. If you get a third round pick, which
would be a Matt Thomas, if they gave up a

(50:52):
third round pick, whoever is the organization, I would like
to get on a road trip drive to that city,
shake their hand and let them know I am here
to help you pack your bags.

Speaker 1 (51:01):
For giving the Texans a top one hundred puck.

Speaker 10 (51:02):
That's not because that's how but that would be the
liability of where you can make that move. If it's
a fourth round pick, are they also taking on all
twelve million dollars at the salary, then yeah, you make
that move. If not, if it's a fourth round pick
and you got eat up six million dollars, maybe make
that move. If it's a fifth round pick or lower,
keep them on the team. It's better to have a
backup that is going to provide experience and versatility and
flexibility if need being.

Speaker 1 (51:23):
Then over splurging and.

Speaker 10 (51:25):
Going out to bring in a guy that is going
to maybe hinder your offensive line long term.

Speaker 1 (51:29):
All right, we just discussed the Texans offensive line for
twelve minutes. Did we lose any remaining audience we had left?
I hope not. I made it fun. You did that
savage funcase. You bring fire and brimstone to offensive line talk.
I think that's a good thing. I'm not sure. I
don't even know what brimstone is. It's a cliche term,
of course it is. I'm sure it was back in

(51:50):
your time, okay time. Yeah, I don't either, one of
you jumping in on the Hey, he makes me feel old?
How does that make you feel? O? That's true exactly
so let me just check y'all. Ot there, gut feelings
bottom of the are not your fault? Mind seven one
three two one two five seven. Nattie seven one three

(52:10):
two one two five Sevony, do you want more Texans
offensive line talk or are we getting to the astros
and cowt I'm sick of looking at cal Raley Hollys highlights.
Guy pissing me off. First of boy, he's got a
horrific nickname. I'd be embarrassed by that name. He's smacking
home runs. Who would ever go by Big Dumper willingly?

(52:34):
He feels like it's it's he's doing what I guess
the endorsement out of it?

Speaker 10 (52:37):
Yeah, and guess what he got the wrong endorsement? Dudes,
White's was right there and say he's doing a porta potti.

Speaker 1 (52:42):
Oh no, you gotta who depends you got no? Got
seven one three two one two five seven Natti. All Right,
gut feelings are coming up at ten minutes. Coley could
be losing your virginity on gut feelings?

Speaker 6 (52:55):
Am I right?

Speaker 1 (52:56):
Am I right about this? Yeah?

Speaker 9 (52:57):
It was?

Speaker 1 (52:57):
What was the last time that I didn't but City
Sweeney bathwater? Oh, I just don't get it. I just
don't guess that was it. There we go. You know what,
I just don't get what we're doing is on Thursday.
I actually know because we know we are gonna on Thursday.
I don't get top one hundred NFL player list. Oh
it's dumb. It's very dumb, and people are like arguing

(53:19):
about it. I'm like, first of all, these players were
probably given this thing and said fill this out, which
their buddies did. Secondly, if CJ. Straut is number ninety
or number seventy one, does it make you feel better
or worse? I just don't get it.

Speaker 10 (53:31):
Well, okay, I just don't get that we actually have
a long list and an actual hour dedicated to seeing
a player who took four snaps in twenty twenty four
and then say he was a part of the top
one hundred.

Speaker 1 (53:45):
That's why I stopped losing. That's why I lost complete
and total respect for it.

Speaker 10 (53:47):
Twenty twenty three, Aaron Rodgers comes on Out American Flag
Monday Night Football. He appears at number eighty six, four snaps, Like, dude,
what are we doing here? If you've ever wanted to
know that nobody cares, including the players, about this list.

Speaker 1 (54:02):
That was it because it's that season.

Speaker 10 (54:04):
It's not, Oh, Aaron Rodgers is the top one hundred
player in the NFL. It was for every season, and
that's what I can't stomach about it.

Speaker 1 (54:12):
But I mean, first of all, there's so many different
positions and to be able to say that, I mean
again arguments, and what it is for me is it's
just off season fodders. Yeah, you're just trying to create
some sort of conversation. But the list is out in
the last couple of days and one's running, Oh, how
does my player wind up at number nineteen or how

(54:33):
does I Maybe it helps your fantacy football a little bit,
but if you're a fanboy, you don't really care as
long as your team is doing well. And how they
make a top hundred list to me just doesn't feel
like it's center.

Speaker 10 (54:44):
I actually give you another hour and a half of
offensive line talk if you would love to do that.
But my point being is that, Okay, the flashy players
always get the accolades. The best players, in my opinion,
are on the offensive and defensive lines. They're the most
impactful and they never get the credit where credits to.
You never see a list of Lane Johnson or when
he was here at Laomy Tunsall inside the top twenty five,

(55:07):
despite the fact that they are probably one of the
top twenty five best players and most impactful players.

Speaker 1 (55:12):
Right, but here we are.

Speaker 10 (55:14):
Arguing about Derek Stingley Junior coming in at number eighteen
when he should have been at number twelve, or he
should have been at number seventeen, or he should have
been at number eight, Like, can we grow up and
realize that it's people picking randomly in order and it's
players who were looking at it from a probably blind
lens and also a little bit of favoritism.

Speaker 1 (55:33):
You got Tyreek Hill.

Speaker 10 (55:35):
You think Tyreek Hill is going to say, Derek Stingley Junior,
who shut me down, belongs to the top five.

Speaker 1 (55:40):
No, I hate that guy.

Speaker 10 (55:41):
I'm gonna put him at number eighty and that's gonna
mess up his rankings.

Speaker 1 (55:44):
It feels like to me, it's just a lot of Hey,
I don't want to fill this out. Hey my buddy,
can you fill this out for me?

Speaker 6 (55:49):
Thing?

Speaker 10 (55:49):
Hey, Dave, go onto Madden and just list the top
one hundred players based off of what the matter rankings are.

Speaker 1 (55:54):
That's how we're gonna turn It's just like college football
coaches when they try to fill out the coaches poll
in college football every week. No, that's one hundred percent factual.
It's not the coach is doing it. It's their sids
are the media people. It's maybe the executive operations director
or the general manager.

Speaker 10 (56:09):
So you're telling me that Willy Fritz doesn't sit down
in his office after every single game and fill out
that bracket of the top twenty four.

Speaker 1 (56:14):
Oh, Willy is God's gift to college coaching, So maybe
he would be a little bit different by the way.
He'll be with us at one thirty this afternoon. Shameless plug.
There we go. It's not shame my bad's not sensational plug. Okay,
sensational plug. Yes, shameless is no.

Speaker 10 (56:27):
No, because when I do my podcast, every single time
I mentioned whenever I'm on someone else's show, I go,
shameless plug.

Speaker 1 (56:32):
Whatever.

Speaker 10 (56:32):
Going to your shameless plug here now, sec and filtered,
shameless plug ahead and give me a follow up?

Speaker 1 (56:36):
Is your Is your podcast better or worse than Gordy's?

Speaker 11 (56:40):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (56:40):
Oh, I like my job, I'll say Gordy. I'll say
Gordy just you're lying, basically lying. You guys are in
competition with each other, correct. I think it's friendly competition.
I listen.

Speaker 10 (56:51):
I listen to Gordy's podcast more than I actually listen
to most other peoples because he has good guests on
all the time.

Speaker 1 (56:55):
Okay, you got u. SEC boys are a different breed. Yeah,
because we're awesome. It just means more. It means minyard
but a little dork here than the average person.

Speaker 10 (57:03):
Okay, I will take being a dork and finishing with
a ten and two record in route to a college
football play off appearance.

Speaker 1 (57:08):
They go on six and six every year. Now, Why
you were ripping on Texa Tech people like that, I
am not ripping on Joey McGuire.

Speaker 10 (57:14):
I'm actually ripping on Kansas Citate people like that because
they already have enough problems going their way.

Speaker 1 (57:18):
Oh my god. That First of all, Avery Johnson, I
didn't even really know his name until you knew his name.
And then dad and older brother are are fighting outside
double once again. My guess is alcohol was involved in it, right?

Speaker 10 (57:33):
Did you not see the video of earlier in the
day where Avery Johnson's brother down two guinnesses before he
walked into the stadium.

Speaker 1 (57:43):
That's that's always are game that's a lot of rich beer,
you Guinness guy. Yes, I can drink it once in
a while, but I would never just intentionally go up
to a bar and go, man, I'm looking looking forward
to a really dark beer. I can do a Guinness.

Speaker 10 (57:56):
Well, I can have one Guinness, So when I go out,
I will have one, and that will be the way
I close out my night, because if I if I
start my night with it, my night's over. It's like,
it's like the people who decide to go ahead and
peruse in gardening when they wake up, it's like, how
do you function for the rest of your day?

Speaker 1 (58:11):
That's me.

Speaker 10 (58:12):
If I start my night with a Guinness, I want
to go home, sleep it off.

Speaker 1 (58:15):
And come back because you're consimpated, basically. Basically, Yeah, it's
it's going to lead to everything that is coming on
and afterwards, just sitting behind it, It's like, what the
hell did you decide? Jonathan?

Speaker 10 (58:24):
I promise you, if you ever tried Guinness, you will
not feel anything in your bowels for the next.

Speaker 1 (58:27):
Time you're stuck today. No you're not, You're not. You're
not going you have the war tomorrow, sir. I'm not
feeling is it?

Speaker 8 (58:38):
Is it?

Speaker 1 (58:38):
Actually good though. It's good, but it's super dark. It's
really thick is not the word I would do it rich.
It's very rich. It's very dark.

Speaker 10 (58:46):
It's like it's not like drinking tar, but it certainly
has the same kind of consistency of motor oil.

Speaker 1 (58:53):
It's gotta yeah, it's got to be the darkest spread
out there. Right, it's up there so compared.

Speaker 3 (58:57):
I just had Carbuck for the first time, and like,
even you're not.

Speaker 10 (59:00):
Even like we're in different constinents when we talked about
that level of beer, Like when I go to Talian,
I'm like, give me a pillsner because I'm a girl. Like, Okay,
you've had fat Tire before, right, I am, okay it
have you ever? Do you even know what fat Tire is?
Jonathan All, okay, Well, it's a really good beer. You
should try it. It's got that same bitter taste, is
the way we put it.

Speaker 1 (59:18):
Yeah, it's it's it's something you It's not a normal
drinking beer. It's a win in Rome kind of situation.
Like if we ever I were into Ireland, I would
be knocking back Guinness is because I want to say
that I was in Ireland.

Speaker 10 (59:27):
Heaven I went to the Temple Bar and I had
four guinnesses in one night. And that was again because
of I was in Dublin. I was not gonna go
anywhere else and not get a Guinness.

Speaker 1 (59:36):
What was the worst thing you did in public during
that event? I pete outside? Did you zip your pants?

Speaker 9 (59:42):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (59:42):
Oh yeah, okay, oh yeah.

Speaker 10 (59:44):
I went around the I went around the corner, went
behind a went behind old trash cans by the way,
and went right back in the bar.

Speaker 1 (59:50):
And what was funny is I was not the only
person back there. So you walk back there dropped trout
and somebody else is doing the exact same thing. Oh yeah,
multiple So it was like the trash can said please
pee here.

Speaker 10 (01:00:04):
It was literally like having an extra trial in the back,
in the back of the bar exactly.

Speaker 1 (01:00:07):
They knew what was going on so random Saturday night.
They understood great live music was going on inside. How
much separation was it between you and the other person.
It was at least two stall links as a tradition,
as it is supposed to be. Okay, things you learn
about Cole Thompson. See that's why you don't get this
on the eighteen. You don't get this kind of material.

Speaker 10 (01:00:25):
No, they have to keep me censored because they already
got one wild card and we don't need to have
two of them.

Speaker 1 (01:00:29):
So what's has to keep the show going in some way?
You know when I'm sleep deprivate. You can talk as
much as you want. Eleven twenty eight here on Sports
Talk seven ninety, Hey Stamford, some gut feelings, make some
predictions about the Astros. Maybe you're on. Maybe about the Texans,
Maybe about the Texans running back room. Maybe about college
football this weekend. By the way, I bought my son

(01:00:49):
yesterday a ticket to see UTSA, A and M on
the secondary streets ninety bucks A ticket. Wasn't terrible for
an A and M USA game. Yeah? Really high? Actually,
And I thought that, No, I think that's high. Yeah,
And I looked upstairs and I got there were worse
sections that were like three hundred and fifty dollars a pop. Okay,
You Aggi fans are crazy. You love your Aggies. Yeah,

(01:01:11):
they love Texas eight and four. Here that Aggie fans
is coming after you. Why do you say, I guess
eight and four? Ba Okay, because here's why. Here's why.

Speaker 10 (01:01:23):
Since they joined the conference in twenty twelve. What do
you think is their average win total per year?

Speaker 1 (01:01:28):
Eight? It is seven point nine. It is seven point nine.

Speaker 10 (01:01:31):
They have one eleven win season since joining in twenty twelve.
They have more eight win seasons than they do nine
win seasons, but they have.

Speaker 1 (01:01:39):
A lot of championships. Banners or signs are wrong a
Kyle fear as a tradition like the twelfth Man eleven
thirty got feeling time, come in and give us your predictions.
It's seven to one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven ninety
wasn't that tom it?

Speaker 6 (01:01:55):
Yo?

Speaker 8 (01:01:55):
They got a good dealers.

Speaker 1 (01:01:57):
This is their gut feeling on the Matt Thomas Show.
All right, eleven thirty five on seven ninety Here's how
it works. And uh Cole's hanging out with us for
a little while as he is a producer of the
A team and doesn't get to talk very much, so
we're giving him opportunity to say what he wants to
say within reason seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven night.
We make predictions. If you get them right, we brag

(01:02:19):
about them later. So if you say anything today that
hits come back in next week and brag about them. Oh,
I'm going to. If they're wrong, we won't hear from
you unless there's soap preposters will make fun of you.

Speaker 10 (01:02:29):
I mean either way, listen, I can't lose. I gotta
come back in here and you get to make fun
of That's right. I get to come back in here.

Speaker 1 (01:02:33):
And I get to gloat. Yeah, we tease because we care,
all right? Seven one three, two, one two five seven.
Hoy boys, here we go. Jonathan, you're writing these down.
I will start with the Astros. They have nine games
coming up. This is the homestand this is a very

(01:02:54):
very this is the second to the last home stand.
I think of the season right, three with Comrado, three
of the Angels, three of the Yankees, six and three.
Where are the three losses? Okay?

Speaker 9 (01:03:15):
Better?

Speaker 1 (01:03:15):
Yet are any of them as sweep? Well?

Speaker 8 (01:03:19):
What?

Speaker 1 (01:03:19):
And would happen? When you think? No? Actually, uh no,
because I don't think we're in a world of sweeps anymore. Okay,
I don't hate that six and I'm going six and three.
Write it down. I put my name on it. It's just
a gut feeling. If they do anything less than six
and three. I will be a ridiculously nervous now, like
going to that Seattle series when they come back after

(01:03:41):
their next long road trip, because they probably will either
be tied or a game back. You know, you know,
you never know. Because again, just because you go five
and four, if the Mariners were all of a sudden
gonna go on some long losing streak, doesn't matter. You
don't have to put absolutes in baseball because you are
the lead dog. You have a game and a half
lead over the Mariners. So it depends on what you do,
and what they do is not necessarily about directly how

(01:04:03):
you perform. They are playing the Padres, which is a
good sign for me to say openly, Fernando Tatis, if
you have to juice up this weekend like you did
back in twenty twenty three, oh look at this. Nobody's
gonna care in this city. We welcome you with open arms.
So you're you're openly endorsing cheating by the San Diego Padres.

Speaker 10 (01:04:22):
If it means the Astros put a four game lead
in the division, I'm not complain it, but they got up.

Speaker 1 (01:04:26):
They're fighting for a wald Cart spot themselves.

Speaker 10 (01:04:28):
Right, So why do not give it to somebody else
who's more deserving, like Kansas City, not Seattle.

Speaker 1 (01:04:33):
By the way, I just tell you it's a ten
game homestand so that Oh who am I forgetting this series?
So it's a Monday rap around. I'm working Labor day?
Are you yes? Are you really? That's so? Are you
gonna be at the draft afterwards? I don't know. We
have a fantasy draft. It's kell late. What is it?
Seven o'clock? Okay, that's fine. I'm gonna work, don't you guys?

(01:04:54):
Are gonna be sitting at home relaxing? No, we're gonna
we're going. We're going to a place that we know
very well, Big City Wings. There we go. We'll see
you're not. It's coming back tonight. All right, hold on,
and I gonna redo this. Then three I always forgre
about that mondayrap wrong, it's very really okay, So we
get three with Colorado, four with the Halos, three with
a New Yurk Yankees, seven and three or six and four?

(01:05:20):
Can I pause for like another hour? I can't. It's
his live radio five, four, three, two, one, six and four. Really,
I'm a dirty horror. You are a horrible individual. Shame
on you, dirty hor I'm wrong. I hope I'm wrong.
I hope up I'm wrong. I can't wait for you
to be wrong. Please let me be wrong. I can't wait.

(01:05:40):
Please let me be wrong. I cannot wait to come
back in here tomorrow morning and time. Let me take
some If they lose to any of the Colorado I'm
gonna be flipping out.

Speaker 10 (01:05:46):
Oh, you have every right to the entire city has
every right to burn down every crevice of this town
if you lose to Colorado.

Speaker 1 (01:05:54):
I wouldn't do that. Burn down Dallas, continue on. Sure. Actually,
you know what burn down Austin to if you want to.
I was in Austin last week. One Bad Travers kind
of sucks. But you know your operas comes back tonight.
Yes he does, he is, and I have a gut feeling. Yes,
first pitch Homer, Okay, shut up, first pitch Homes that's

(01:06:15):
a Jonathan take. That's first pitch Homer. Why not? And
then he doesn't get another hit for the rest of
the game. One for four. Oh, this is awful. Write
this down and we're gonna make fun of him tomorrow.
It's gonna be awesome. Everybody needs to send tweets at
mister Cole Thompson, uh and rip on him when when
when you're on the first of all yourn's gonna take

(01:06:35):
the first pitch. Okay, first swing, homer. No no, you
can't swing. No no, no no, but.

Speaker 10 (01:06:41):
It's okay for you on your show to change it
from six to three to because I forgot about the extra. Oh,
but I forgot that he was going to the very
first swing he swings contact, it's a home run, home run.
I'll take it a step further right field, second deck,
so he's going upper tank, upper tank, first swing, home
run ahead.

Speaker 1 (01:06:59):
No, I didn't respect you more for you to say
he's going to opo to the Crawford boxes.

Speaker 10 (01:07:03):
No, I want to go big, go big, or go home,
all right, because it because either way you can make
fun of me tomorrow or I can come in here
at some point and just scream at you.

Speaker 1 (01:07:11):
Pay up. So either way I win. You will get
your flowers from me tomorrow. But that's it, and then
you're gonna be ridiculously embarrassed tomorrow as well when I
make fun of you. Okay, let's put this down again,
Cole Thompson says, first time you're do on swings. It's
an upper tank home run to right field. Sounds like
a good take. Ky, Are you sure you going to

(01:07:31):
work for some Astros fanboy website? No, I'm actually not
working on that juicebox? All right? Very good? Uh? Can
I change my mind? Can I go six and four? No? No,
I don't want to say six and four. Six and
four sounds plain. It sounds mid. Oh, it sounds mid.

Speaker 10 (01:07:49):
But then again, you you you're making fun of me
for saying upper deck Homer, all right, stand on business,
Matt Thomas, Stand on business, Matt.

Speaker 1 (01:07:59):
That the kids saying, yes, all right? I think Jonathan,
is that what the kids says? Okay? Sick, I'm staying
with six and four. And I hope I'm wrong. I
hope I'm don't get the kid. I can't wait till
when you were wrong. All right? Other gut feelings. I
already mentioned this on to tell the Truth yesterday. If
the Texans win the game in Los Angeles, CJ is

(01:08:21):
gonna have to throw for more than two hundred and
fifty yards.

Speaker 10 (01:08:24):
I just think that's a given. I don't even think
that's a gut feeling. I think that's a fact. If
I'm be completely honest with you.

Speaker 1 (01:08:30):
Okay, now you could have a you could have a
game of futility, because Stafford's one hundred percent sure you
could have defensive scores in play. I don't think it's so.
I don't think. I don't think it's etch. In fact,
I mean I'm gonna say that. My point is the
running game is not going to be the Texans best
friend in laws angles.

Speaker 10 (01:08:47):
That's why I think it has to be fifty is
because of even if I do believe you will see
Damian Pierce and Nick Chubb and I'll throw in Woody
Marks make up for the lost production of Joe Mixon
Walkie's Out.

Speaker 1 (01:08:59):
Okay, it's not gonna happen in week one. It's gonna
start in week two, Week three, week four. That's when
you'll see you won't get in week one. So I
agree with you. Two and fifty yards is fine, all right?
I think gut feeling. When we wake up on Sunday morning,
the Longhorns will be sitting at one to o over

(01:09:19):
Ohio State because their defense gets a game winning pick
six against Julian Saying and Arch Manning does not meet
the expectations set by the media. You know, because you're
a Texas hater. I can hear you. He really really? Okay?
Why do I hate Texas so much better? How is
this Dylan del Gatto? Dude? He is a aggregator on Twitter?

(01:09:40):
The Texans released offensive lineman Ladarius Henderson fan favorite cut.
Oh have you not heard about the love that Ladarius
Henderson got all off season? I have not.

Speaker 10 (01:09:50):
Oh, it's been fantastic because what makes him so lovable
because Nick Cassio liked him as a pick and because
of old Saint Nick can't do anything wrong in this city.

Speaker 1 (01:09:59):
It's brought into it. If you and I went to
a bar right now and said, hey, what's your all
thoughts about Ladarius Henderson?

Speaker 10 (01:10:03):
I promise you there would be one Texans fan somewhere
out in the middle of but.

Speaker 1 (01:10:07):
Someone know, every bar in town, no, no one bar.

Speaker 10 (01:10:11):
There'd be a Texans fan who would sell you on
the idea that Ladarius Henderson needed one more offseason to
prove he wasn't all pro Well, that person needs to
get laid, that person needs to find a life.

Speaker 1 (01:10:20):
I don't even think that who fan offensive linemen are
not fan favorites. Oh, they're my fan favorites. That's because
you're a door exactly. That's right, John, What do you got?

Speaker 4 (01:10:30):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:10:30):
Okay, I'm going to college football. Yes, yes, I'm taking
Clemson over LSU. Okay, no, no set score. And then
I'm going for the upset since we got a rolling
tide in here.

Speaker 1 (01:10:42):
Oh you are an evil upset Florida State. You already
Jet won two games last year? Right?

Speaker 3 (01:10:48):
Yes, they look promising. I'm just saying they look like nothing.
They look enough for an upset, That's all I'm saying.
All Right, Okay, I write this down by the way too.
You of he covers the twenty two and a half
against said covers covers I didn't swear I didn't. Yeah, covers.

Speaker 1 (01:11:05):
Notre Dame beats Miami by ten points. Where's the game
in Miami? Ooh you got a Notre Dame winning buy
ten in Florida? W Scott feeling all right, I'm we'na
give you one more. M Auburn wins at Baylor.

Speaker 10 (01:11:25):

What after beating Auburn? What Baylor behind? Sawyer Robertson the
most underrated quarterback in college football. Oh here we got
Josh Cameron, one of the best wide receivers. Kobe Prenton's
coming on in from the University of Alabama because we
didn't need him anymore. So guess what we set him

(01:11:46):
down to Baylor to save David Randa's career.

Speaker 1 (01:11:48):
With having Bryce in Washington.

Speaker 10 (01:11:49):
The best running back in the Big Twelve not only
puts belt to butt on the Brazas. This weekend to Auburn,
who will fire Hugh Freeze after losing to Diego Pavia
a four time. They go eleven and won during the
regular season twelve and one and punch their ticket to
the College Football Playoff. Faylor is going to the playoff
failor Jakes Baviatol top twenty five scoring offense, a revamped

(01:12:09):
defense with Dave Randa, they find a way to dominate
not only this matchup, they beat up on SMU. Next
week they find a way to take down Arizona State.
They run their way to Arlington and back into the
College Football Playoff, which would actually a first time for them.

Speaker 1 (01:12:22):
Auburn two and a half point favorite of the game.

Speaker 10 (01:12:24):
By the way, Auburn is going to lose by at
least a touchdown in the game, probably walk into the
Hugh Freeze experiment.

Speaker 1 (01:12:30):
I got a headline for you. I feel like I'm
talking to Sizzle over here.

Speaker 10 (01:12:34):
I got I got a headline for you that we
will read on Sunday morning. That is Auburn football stuck
in a rut until Hugh Freeze is over.

Speaker 1 (01:12:45):

Speaker 1 (01:13:37):
I don't think I know a single I think I've
introduced mysel Michael Kaid hasn't even worked for wfan, who
works for the ESPNFA affiliate. Yeah, that's that's that.

Speaker 10 (01:13:47):
Welcome to WFA N Circle twenty twenty five, where you

Trying to figure out the most likely date that Jake
Myers returns to the lineup?

Speaker 8 (01:14:06):
How do you?

Speaker 2 (01:14:07):
How do you find that information? When do they post
their lineups for each day?

Speaker 1 (01:14:12):
Well, he's got to come off the injury list first.

Speaker 2 (01:14:15):
Yeah, and they're saying that's going to be late August.

Speaker 1 (01:14:18):
Well, who's who's saying I don't nobody's saying that, Mack.
Who is the insider that you have spoken to that?
Matt Thomas? I don't know. I mean, that's that's a
nott of presumption, that's a hope. I don't I don't know.
No one has said there's a definite done that maybe not.

Speaker 2 (01:14:32):
That's the only thing I can find on the Astros
website when they talk about injury update.

Speaker 1 (01:14:37):
Yeah, I know they're trying there. It's a guessing game. Sorry, Mac,
What have an answer for you? Are you a big
Jake Myers guy?

Speaker 2 (01:14:44):
My life is she's the biggest fan and uh, she
just she just got sent to bed with COVID. So
when she gets we're hoping that she gets healthy before
he does. Seems like a pretty good.

Speaker 1 (01:14:54):
Debt, right y'all? Are y'all sitting together? Are you at
this point? Well not to you know, it's funny. Thank
you for the phone call. Ironically, I've gotten COVID I
think three times in my life, maybe even four. My
wife is slept with me every single time, and she's
never gotten it.

Speaker 10 (01:15:10):
Kirsan had COVID over the summer and I slept with her,
never got it.

Speaker 1 (01:15:15):
Do you cuddle? No? Hell? No king size bed, two
dogs in the middle. I had a good barrier, cuddled
the dogs. Oh hell yeah I did, Hell yeah I did.
What what what are you laughing at? Nothing but a
funny guy?

Speaker 8 (01:15:29):
Man?

Speaker 1 (01:15:30):
I know you are a funny guy. I am fantastic.
I look like James mckerboy. My name is Cole, and
I coddled my dogs and my wife.

Speaker 10 (01:15:37):
I do guess what I've done. I have no I
have no shame. Clearly I have no shame. Dirting out
my dirty launder on air.

Speaker 1 (01:15:45):
It'll only get worky hang out. Trust me. I'm gonna
sleep on the count at some point this week. All right,
uh stunna, stuna, what's in your gut? What you got?
What's that sun up?

Speaker 12 (01:15:58):
I'll just say I thank you across between Charlie Palillo
and Adam Clinton, because man.

Speaker 1 (01:16:09):
I don't know that's a good.

Speaker 8 (01:16:14):
Son.

Speaker 1 (01:16:15):
I need you to continue. It's not a goodder. It's
hold on sonn son. I do not want you to
explain it because I totally get it. So don't explain
it so cold doesn't figure it out. I completely, one
hundred percent agree with This is gonna be on my
brain for the rest of that. Don't know it, don't
answer it, don't answer him, don't do it. Fine, so
let me.

Speaker 12 (01:16:34):
But my take is that Seattle is gonna split with
the Padres and.

Speaker 3 (01:16:42):
The totally going to that meeting with them.

Speaker 12 (01:16:47):
Three games up. And my last take is the horse
will win and the Cowboys will win on a field
goal fifty yards plugs by hobbery.

Speaker 1 (01:16:58):
Wow. And by the way, I think that a series
with the Potters only a three game series.

Speaker 8 (01:17:03):
I thought it was.

Speaker 1 (01:17:04):
I'm looking at Thursday schedule. I don't see them on there. No,
I think, so you can't split a three game or
stun you know better than that. Well, okay, maybe he's
saying he splits the next two series and they go
three and three. Yeah, there, starting to look at that.
I'm on your side here a right, man, that's Adams.
That's that's that's an that's an Adam Pololo for you

(01:17:25):
right there. No, don't tell him, don't tell him, don't
tell him. ACP is not my new name. All right? Fine,
you are Adam Pololo. That is hysterical. That absolutely hits.
And I know, because I'm an og, I know what
exactly what that is. Genuinely going to be sitting here
thinking about that. Fo don't do it, don't do it?
All right? You like Jackson Brown, You know the Texans

(01:17:47):
are running on empty, don't you know they are? You'll
hear it next Plus the News at noon Joe spotted
in thirty five minutes here on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 11 (01:17:54):
Eddie hold callim and free. It's a food Ray snow
with Hawkins there he goes bad, Ain't going off down field,
a huge gaine and a burst by the Texans running
back of sixty seventy yards.

Speaker 1 (01:18:20):
Looking like the years going down so perst in gold.

Speaker 11 (01:18:26):
Shroud, Tuns on the block, Nixon touchdown and just like that,
two possessions to touchdown.

Speaker 4 (01:18:34):
Packing Jaxons aren't spending a lot of time at the
line of scrimmage once they get up there, hand the.

Speaker 1 (01:18:48):
Mixing cutback, John mixing, goodbye touchdown Texans, Johns to keep
your level.

Speaker 11 (01:18:59):
Line twelve for eighty two yards on mcground. Here's more
chunk jodge, pluck bi tigs they depault.

Speaker 1 (01:19:07):
It's a touchdowns and it just supported her from days ere.
It goes again. Nixon at the pots your shoulder and
is gonna have touched down? What a run by mix

(01:19:28):
Little Jackson Brown very underrated, all right, Jonathan. This song
was also in Forrest Gump, by the way, was actually yes,
run away from the poor Jenny. She is the villain
of that movie, is what she is the villain of
that movie? Yeah, I hate her? What no?

Speaker 10 (01:19:48):
She is?

Speaker 1 (01:19:48):
She is one of the worst cinematic villains in all
of the movies. Correct she is? I put Jenny one
dart Vander two okay starters or how a redemption arc?
I don't think there ever was a redemption she gave
for well, she gave bores of a neurial disease that
you need to carry around along with the child.

Speaker 11 (01:20:09):
Is that what you get?

Speaker 1 (01:20:10):
And what is his reward?

Speaker 9 (01:20:11):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (01:20:11):
She dies right afterwards? Selfish? That's what Jenny. He knocks
a house down. I was nice him to do that,
very nice for.

Speaker 10 (01:20:17):
Him to do that with all the money that he provided,
that he gave to her child that was his child,
that she convinced him quite literally without him.

Speaker 1 (01:20:24):
Knowing that he was going to be a father? How
dare she? That made me?

Speaker 8 (01:20:28):
Not?

Speaker 1 (01:20:28):
On a completely different subject, Matt Thoms, that's why I
got mad yesterday. I've already said what I wanted to
say about Jenny. By the way, who which one of
the two doesn't like Jackson brown I like Jackson Browne,
I know, but one of my two guys don't like
Jackson brown Oh is it? I don't know your show?
So I don't know. Wow, I appreciate it. I hate
listen between two and six, see exactly he hates it.

(01:20:49):
Of course you do. I listened to a bunch of craps.
I like Jackson Brown. I think it's really I think
he's really good. Yeah, I'm trying to think we have
no topic for believing on that. I don't think I'm
gonna do Jackson Brown. But I'm just thinking about we
gotta we gotta think of something, believe it or not.
Jenny is the single worst human that has ever believe it.
That's the hell. Yeah, that's a hell of a believe it.
Who's the other?

Speaker 10 (01:21:07):
Who's the other worst character that you in that movie? No,
just in general that people love or they don't give
enough cratitude for being evil.

Speaker 1 (01:21:15):
Oh see, I'm not a super big moviegoer, are you TV?
I do like TV? Okay, uh, I need your example
to help me out here. Okay, perfect example for me personally.

Speaker 10 (01:21:26):
I don't think Ross is the worst character in Friends
number one, and I don't think that Ted Mosby is
the worst character in How I Met Your Mother number two?

Speaker 1 (01:21:33):
Okay, Uh, How I Met Your Mother never watched one episode,
never because it looked like I would take me years
to laugh at one. Ross and Joey were both highly
irritating on Friends. I hated both of their characters. Okay,
Chandler was so much funnier than the other two combined. No,
Chandler was the comedic relief, even though Joey was pegged

(01:21:54):
to be the comedic relief. Joey was just stupid. No,
that's the thing. He was stupid. I didn't find it.
I didn't find his character in daring or anything. I
couldn't stand Monica personally. Phoebe to me, was the least attractive. Okay,
it wasn't that Phoebe was the least attractive. It was
that Phoebe they tried to make outside nonsensical stuff really
funny and it didn't work because she's not hot. There's

(01:22:14):
the hot crazy skill that you can go balance on
and if you don't know, if you're not hot enough,
then unfortunately the crazier you watch. I was team Monica,
I'll be honest with you, really. Oh yeah, Team Rachel,
although of course Rachel's the goat, but Monica was in
a was not a far behind top five nineties chick
of all time Rachel Green. Oh, yeah, for sure, I say,
is Monica in your top five? Or she had audible mention?

(01:22:35):
I don't know. I haven't thought about this. I haven't.
I don't have these deep thoughts it or not. Matt
Thomas does not have deep thoughts on a Tuesday.

Speaker 6 (01:22:42):
Oh I get that.

Speaker 1 (01:22:44):
About women too, mad I don't know. You're losing your
fast ball.

Speaker 9 (01:22:47):
You know what.

Speaker 1 (01:22:47):
He's got too much caffeine over here. He's throwing too
much stuff at me. This is I'm supposed to be
the wild card today. I'm apparently out of Perillo, so
I'm coming in with fast with me. I have factual
information and good takes, A very terrible takes. No, no, no,
they're not horrible. I haven't heard anything something terrible this point.
Let's get you the news at Nude, where in twenty

(01:23:09):
two minutes from now you will be hearing from Astros
manager Joe Aspatta. The presumption is that Jordan Albarez will
be starting and playing his first game since early May,
Astros opening up a three game series with the I
would say hated Kalad Rockies, but that wouldn't be very fair.
Astros will start in this game close personal front of

(01:23:29):
the show. Jason Alexander, who is four and one. He's
going against you. Ready for this call, Antonio Santazella, Zenezela.
It doesn't really matter. It doesn't matter. His record is
four and fifteen with an e array of seven point
one point five. Okay, so win. Okay, if you're the Rockies,

(01:23:49):
do you owe that guy in apology? Why? Why would
you send somebody out there with a record of four
and fifteen because you're not, of course Field. He's pitching
one hundred and twelve innings and has given up one
hundred and seventy one hit. It's this season that's embarrassing.
He's out of course Field. Maybe things will go better
this summer around. Remember Brandon Taylor came on in here.
You know what, that's not right. I give you the

(01:24:10):
wrong information. I looked at the wrong day. Okay, I
owe you an apology. Do you know I owe the
city of Houston apology? The city is Houston, apology. You
owe him an apology. He still sucks, of course he does.
He's gonna suck tomorrow. Here's it here, it is. It's
Hunter Brown today against Tanner Gordon. Gordon is four and
five with an ernie of seven to eleven. Hunter Brown

(01:24:32):
is ten and five with a two thirty six cy
are that makes me feel very good. Sixteen point six
percent chance for the Colorado Rockies to win it. Going
to ESPN Analytic now tomorrow Fromber, you got some pressure
on your friend. You have not been the same pitcher
for a better part of a month. You will be
on the mound on the game on Wednesday, and then
friend of the show Jason Alexander pitches on Thursday. Who

(01:24:53):
pitches against Fromber tomorrow? Do you know do you have
it pulled up?

Speaker 9 (01:24:56):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (01:24:57):
Is it Dolander the rookie? I don't have it pulled up?
How well? I already saw it. I already saw it.
I don't want to hear it. I want to hear
how many? Oh you know what?

Speaker 6 (01:25:09):
You know what?

Speaker 1 (01:25:11):
Gordia? Are you back there? How many? I know he's
doing it to piss me off.

Speaker 3 (01:25:14):
I know he is your English teacher and your gym
teacher are getting married. Travis Kelsey and Taylor Sway. Oh
oh oh.

Speaker 1 (01:25:25):
Hit the sounder again, Sounder again, sounder again. Keep hitting
the sounder. Endlessen shut up, endless sounders. It's much I
like to do it one more time for It's just
all fun.

Speaker 2 (01:25:43):
There we go.

Speaker 1 (01:25:44):
Do you know who the instipule music is? Maybe? What
do you mean? Maybe even though the show like seven
or eight months, that's obviously be a bat blood now. Yeah,
but we can just shake it off. I don't think
we can because are you gonna have tear chops on
your guitar? I'm out after this, Thank God, it's time

(01:26:06):
for It's pole. Is Taylor Swift making the right choice
by marrying Travis Kelsey? Yes?

Speaker 8 (01:26:17):

Speaker 9 (01:26:30):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:26:31):
The question we'll get to do into pole one quote,
which we're gonna go. Is Taylor making the right decision?
It doesn't matter. She's gonna write a song about her
divorce in five years, so prom solved? All right? Is
Taylor doing the right thing? Yes or no? Her music
career absolutely, This is the insta pole seven one three
two one two five seven ninetie. I will don't order

(01:26:51):

be marrying Travis Kelcey. Let's go to line number one
Brandon on seven ninety Is Taylor making the right call

Speaker 7 (01:27:09):
Yes, as long as she makes him sign a pre not.

Speaker 1 (01:27:12):
Oh, I had thought about that, Thank you very much, Brandon.
Seven one three, two, one two five seven On line two,
insepol Is Taylor making the right decision yes or no?

Speaker 4 (01:27:24):
Hell?

Speaker 1 (01:27:25):
No? Thank you?

Speaker 9 (01:27:26):
Yo.

Speaker 1 (01:27:26):
One vote for no. Remember it's first to four on
the instapole. Okay, I like this. We had seven one
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven ony Line one. Is Taylor
making the right decision marrying Travis? Yes or no? Line
one three two one Okay, silence is golden here. I'm
gonna take that as yes from me. No, you cannot

(01:27:47):
take that anything because people have to call in. He
did call it. No, they did. He was so shocked. No,
he was so shocked that it could have happened. Joan
right decision yes or no? On Taylor Swift. Absolutely, love
is love is Joe knows about love. She's a great parent,
great grandmother, she knows everything. Fantastic. So two votes. Taylor's
making the right decision. Can't wait to go ahead and

(01:28:09):
prove that that would be the only thing you have.
There'll be more, I'm not I gear to you, there won't.
Line too. It's Taylor making the right decision yes or no. No,
she's not.

Speaker 7 (01:28:20):
No, they haven't been together that long for but in
no way.

Speaker 1 (01:28:24):
Wow, all right, that's a second no. Remember the instipal
doesn't lie exactly. Line one. Taylor Swift making the right
decision yes or no?

Speaker 9 (01:28:34):
No?

Speaker 1 (01:28:35):
No? Wow, what we doing, Matt Thomas? You sit down?

Speaker 8 (01:28:39):
What we doing?

Speaker 1 (01:28:39):
Matt Thomas? I don't know what you're doing, But get
away from me. You're intense.

Speaker 8 (01:28:44):
Line too.

Speaker 1 (01:28:45):
Taylor Swift, right decision yes or no? As your resident Swifty?

Speaker 2 (01:28:50):
Absolutely, Oh I know who that is?

Speaker 1 (01:28:53):
All right? Hey, we've had a moment of truth here.
Three votes yes, three votes no. The marriage of Taylor
Swift is relying on our last calder. Line four. Is
Taylor making the right decision? Yes or no? There it
is the ends of one is a lie. I'll see

(01:29:14):
myself out, mat Thomas. Now you're saying to one o'clock,
then you have to go. And that's the news that Newton. Wow,
the show has shifted exactly.

Speaker 10 (01:29:23):
They realized that I know what, I don't lemitate listen
to stay abound.

Speaker 1 (01:29:27):
I do not care about the Texans offensive line. I
seriously don't care. I don't care about cuts. Sew me
go to interstation. I don't care. I don't care. I
care about Taylor, I care about Jr. And Alvarez, I
care about the Rockets. I don't care about the eventive line.
I don't care about the cuts.

Speaker 8 (01:29:45):
I just don't.

Speaker 1 (01:29:47):
But besides that, missus Lincoln, how is the place that
is a PLO line?

Speaker 9 (01:29:51):
Right?

Speaker 1 (01:29:51):
The way you are? Jesus you are Adam. I'm working
with Adam Pulo here all right? More, what do you
give them for a gift? And who goes to the wedding?
Do you invite the entire team? And if you don't
invite the entire team, does that make them look awkward?
Like if you invite like some guys on the offense,
some of the defense, but don't invite everybody, Well, I
think you have to invite the entire team. At this point,

(01:30:12):
they just go they even a little Uh what Elope,
I will.

Speaker 10 (01:30:16):
Tell you just right now, as somebody who has recently
gotten married in the last five years, if you have
the opportunity to elope, I stand on that.

Speaker 1 (01:30:25):
I was given the option of having not me my wife,
your wife, my wife. You have no option the dream
wedding or here's a big lump of money and go
put it down payment in the house. You chose the
dream wedding, didn't you. I didn't choose anything. She chose
the dream wading. Yeah, exactly. Job and just remember sums
of money may come and go, but so can marriage.

(01:30:46):
Just take the money. Yeah, our wedding's worthy the corethhouse.
I loved my wedding. It was the greatest event of
my entire life. I'm already playing my first divorce.

Speaker 2 (01:30:57):
It was fine.

Speaker 1 (01:30:58):
Life is a breeze. Caiosen, if you're listening, I'll talk
to you tomorrow. She hates me, No, she doesn't. She
barely tolerates you. All right, there it is so we
have now jumped. The shark from Texans Online talked to
Taylor Swips getting married to Travis twelve sixteen on Sports
Talk seven. Any O MG, did you hear the wonderful news?

Speaker 8 (01:31:24):
What now?

Speaker 1 (01:31:25):
No, honey, what is it? I'm a teacher and English
teacher are getting married. Exclamation point, exclamation point, exclamation point.
I'm so happy, I'm crying through tears down my face.
Kierson Thompson, twelve sixteen. She's listening to the show.

Speaker 2 (01:31:47):
No.

Speaker 10 (01:31:47):
She just found out about the engagement while at work
and decided to take time out of her day, knowing
how much I hate.

Speaker 1 (01:31:54):
This woman to text me me there's nothing I hate
about it? To hate about it? What has she done
that she is so hateful?

Speaker 10 (01:32:00):
She is not a good singer. This over this on
the buffed up, I'd not say a good songwriter. There's
a giant difference.

Speaker 1 (01:32:07):
If she was not a blonde chick from Nashville, she
would have just been a songwriter and we all would
have heard her music through the sweet sultry tunes of
Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter out Through and du Alipa. They
all would have taken over. But she was a blonde
chick that was able to go ahead and get her
break at sixteen years old, and because of that, we
treat her like she is royalty. She's an average singer

(01:32:28):
and a great songwriter. She will be the most successful
singer in the history of the world.

Speaker 10 (01:32:33):
When it's all done, it will I agree with you,
but she should be the most successful songwriter in the
history of the world.

Speaker 1 (01:32:37):
All right, I'm putting up a pole question more Texans
Cuts Talk or Travis Taylor Engagement cond I will make
sure that every single person I know votes for Texanstock. Well,
we'll see. I would rather talk about nineteen eighties movies
with you than anything else. Let's see you here.

Speaker 10 (01:32:55):
I'd rather quiz Jonathan on his knowledge of the nineteen
eighty theme song.

Speaker 1 (01:33:00):
I gonna put this pole question. I'm gonna put this
up for one hour and thirty minutes. We'll see what
people say. When hour fifteen I put that. Let's take
a look. So there it is. Your options are uh,
you have the options of Taylor Swift Engagement Talk or
Texans Cut Jesus, have you seen this ring?

Speaker 10 (01:33:18):
That's why I was saying, oh my, that's more than
a super Bowl ring, Like he would have the pawn
off multiple super Bowl rings to afford this ring. I
understand why that one guy who called in and said
get the prenup. So what's he He's worth fifty million
dollars give her.

Speaker 1 (01:33:33):
Take I would I would say a hundred I'd say
close to one hundred million. And she's worth a couple
of billions million. Yes, Like, let's say this.

Speaker 10 (01:33:42):
Remember when they started dating and people freaked out that
he made a comment about her music and the Swifties
tried to cancel him and all of the NFL. Like,
her audience is so much bigger than the NFL. It's crazy,
which had the.

Speaker 1 (01:33:57):
Ratings of games went up when she was in This.

Speaker 10 (01:34:00):
Figured in the story for literally a screenshot, not even
for to have the tailor Like, if the super Bowl
is smart this year and somehow Kansas City is able
to defy the script because I've already read it, they're
not going this year. They have to go ahead and
set up one more year. Let Travis get married and
then we'll find out next year that she's cregnant at
the super Bowl. So then he retires because if he
becomes a father. If they are smart and somehow they

(01:34:22):
defy the odds this year and beat the script, they
need to have a tailor camp inside of the stadium,
inside the box that cam will get more views than
the super Bowl itself.

Speaker 1 (01:34:31):
Thirteen votes are in Texans Cuts Talk, leading fifty four
to forty six. I appreciate that it's closer than I
thought it was going to be. They shouldn't be. It
shouldn't be about the text on line.

Speaker 2 (01:34:41):
Man.

Speaker 1 (01:34:42):
No not, I told you. I'm dude, Well, I'm pissed
off the Texans of defensive line. No, you do not
hear the news what Daniel Jackson got cut?

Speaker 10 (01:34:50):
Why are we not spending more time on that, Matt Thomas,
I don't know. Can you tell me one thing about
Daniel Jackson, the.

Speaker 1 (01:34:58):
Parents of mister and missus, the kid of mister Missus Jackson.
You're sorry, miss Jackson. Okay, I see what you did there?
Fan favorite? All right, fan favorite. It looks like Taylor
Engagement combo is losing bad now. It's fifty nine to
forty one in favor of Texan scutstock. I mean, so
there is some sanity out there, I hope.

Speaker 8 (01:35:17):
So.

Speaker 10 (01:35:18):
I mean, I'm gonna have to I just want you
to know I'm going to have to deal with more
Taylor talk when we get on at two o'clock, because
the other one is going to is going to piss
off this one. It's in this chair to make sure
that he has to go ahead to deal with this
for at least twenty minx design.

Speaker 1 (01:35:32):
Of that happened. We is going to derail the show
for this is going to Wax is going to give
you a too deep on every position of this team
over the next two months. When the three o'clock hour
starts on Space City Network, yes he will, I one
hundred percent agree with you. But when it's two o'clock
you can play Taylor songs.

Speaker 10 (01:35:49):
He's going we can play Taylor songs. He is going
to require that we play Taylor songs to piss him off.
Who sits in this chair?

Speaker 1 (01:35:55):
All right, So there you have it. Uh oh, By
the way, the Astros two thousand, twenty six schedule is announced.
I love how baseball gives it to you. Even before
the twenty twenty five year is done. They're gonna open
up the year with a homestand which will feature four
against the Angels and three against the Boston Red Sox.
So if you are a big Bregman fan, you're gonna
see him pretty soon. Actually, my name is seen in
the playoffs. You never know.

Speaker 10 (01:36:18):
Why is ESPN Fantasy apps saying congratulations to Travis Kelsey
and Taylor Scrift.

Speaker 1 (01:36:23):
Because they know what gets clicks. I know, I hate this.
I hate this so much. Let me ask you this, Okay,
we gotta get to it quickly, to a joe's body.
If you are the six o'clock news tonight, how many
stories I'm talking about the local, not long national. How
many stories does it get before we find out that
Travis and Taylor are engaged one. They're not leading with it. No, no,

(01:36:45):
no no, you're saying somebody died in a car right, could.

Speaker 10 (01:36:48):
Have died in a major wreck, something happened in third ward,
whatever it is. By the way, let's bring you back
to some positivity.

Speaker 1 (01:36:56):
I'm gonna give you here's how it's gonna go. First
minute of your local news tonight, somebody dies in it
and car crash, quick weather check than the Taylor and
Travis Okay, I will do you one better.

Speaker 10 (01:37:05):
I think that they will be somewhat of a transition
into a happy moment to where they talk about the
bad blood that happens out on the streets that turns
into a love story.

Speaker 1 (01:37:12):
That is Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey. That's deep, It's
too deep for local news. Why it's very punny. It
works all right. Let's talk to Joe as spot on next,
and I promise you we're not gonna ask him any
questions about Taylor and Travis. Twelve twenty seven. It is
the Matt Thomas Show with Ross Cole is in for
the next half hour hanging out. Will this come on
and join our conversation if you so choose at seven

(01:37:32):
one three two one two five seven ninety three while
we wait for Joe to call us. Just look at
the twenty twenty six schedule. I mentioned four with the
Angels to open up this serial, though, there's Joe three
with the Boston Red Sox, and then they go west
right away with games at Sacramento, Colorado and Seattle. Goodness, man,

(01:37:56):
we're already looking forward to twenty twenty six. We gotta
worry about twenty twenty five first and four almost. And
the man that help us by that is the manager
of the Houston Astros, Joe Aspatta skip power things on
this Tuesday. How was the off day? I'm doing well.

Speaker 8 (01:38:08):
I'll stay with fabulous. Thank you for asking.

Speaker 1 (01:38:11):
Hey, a lot of excitement around these parts, is certain.
DHS A slugging left hander, had a nice trip down
to Corpus Christy, have you filled out your lineup card
just yet? Yes? And is there a certain DH in
that lineup tonight?

Speaker 8 (01:38:28):
Yes, there's a DH in that lineup?

Speaker 1 (01:38:29):
You know what I mean? Skip, Come on now, we're
better than that, all right? Is you're not going to
play DH tonight.

Speaker 8 (01:38:43):
Your Donny's going to walk in here. We're gonna talk
to him and see how he feels, and if he
feels good, wait and see see what happens. Guys, we all,
we all, you know, looking looking forward to him coming
in here today and tell how he feels.

Speaker 1 (01:38:55):
Okay, that's good, that's I'm glad to hear that. How
much how much recount were you getting from your folks
in Corporus, Christy?

Speaker 8 (01:39:02):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (01:39:02):
Did you did he get? I'm assuming he got what
he wanted to accomplish in terms of playing day off,
a little bit of outfield, running around the bases a.

Speaker 8 (01:39:09):
Little bit, yea, yeah, yeah, yeah, he did all those
things and he came out feeling well, you know, the
at bats, not only there, but the at bats in
West Palm Beach. I think he's in a really good
spot mentally and physically, and you know you mentioned outfield,
he also played on Mottfield. He came out of there
not feeling good about that. So yeah, he's he's in

(01:39:32):
a really good spot and you know, really, you know,
really excited getting him back.

Speaker 1 (01:39:38):
You know, I guess the number one question is beyond
his playing, is the fact that you've used Jose a
lot at d H spot over that time and not
a lot of left field in the last couple of months.
From a macro view, not necessarily about tonight or tomorrow,
but from macro, how do you see things playing out
if those guys are available to you healthy, trying to

(01:39:59):
give them days off, but also trying to get keep
them in the line up every single day as you
fight to win this division.

Speaker 8 (01:40:04):
Yeah, you know, so the DH spot will help us
with that that both can play left that both will
d H you know Hoseek and also play second base.
So that's that will be a way to keep everyone
in the lineup and healthy. Also, you know, your done,
we have to see how he feels volume wise, how

(01:40:28):
we get him going. You know, he has him play
in almost three and a halfs four months, so we
have to see how he feels as he you know,
gets back to the every day you know, line up
and playing every day. We have, you know, a stretch
of thirteen games, so we have to be smart on
the volume, not only with him, but the rest of
the guys.

Speaker 1 (01:40:48):
Have you in your conversation with your don or members
of your staff or the training staff, is it literally
a wake up every morning? How you feeling? Or is
we are we a little bit past that point where
he has gotten up five cents seven ten days in
a row and said, Hey, my hand's feeling pretty good.

Speaker 8 (01:41:03):
Yeah, no, he's and and he has been feeling pretty good,
like you know, every morning or we'll check in and
he'll check in with us, and you know, the the
the excitement and how he's feeling is very encouraging, and
that's the most important thing. We know that uh, you
know how good he is when when he's healthy. But

(01:41:25):
for us, it's just more how he bounces back from
the workload and so far has been so far has
been good.

Speaker 1 (01:41:32):
Talk a little bit if you can about We've had
some folks ask about Jake Myers. I know that Dana
brought him up a little bit on Sunday. What do
you know about him at this point and where is
he and his recovery path.

Speaker 8 (01:41:44):
So the plan is for him to start tomorrow in
sugar Land, So that will be that will be great
to also get him going and getting get him ready
to get back here to us and help them with
some games. But he's also gotten to a point where
he's covering very well. He's pushing off that leg, doing
all the drills that we need him to get done,

(01:42:08):
and check some boxes that we need to see from him.
And right now he's in a really also in a
really go was fought.

Speaker 1 (01:42:15):
It feels like things are coming together. From the positional standpoint,
You've got quite a few of your pitchers back. It
felt like to me the Baltimore series. Obviously the bats
were fantastic, Joe, you certainly want to start to get
some link out of your starting pitching. And I thought
perhaps the brightest spot of that group was even though Spencer,
you know, got in some trouble with pitch count early
in the game, he was able to give you five

(01:42:35):
and a third. And so I think we're kind of
looking for that same kind of thing, maybe especially with
a guy like Lance mccollors.

Speaker 8 (01:42:42):
Yes, that will be. That's an area where we know
that these guys are capable of doing that, and it
hasn't been the case here the last few outings, but
we know those guys once they get settled. You know,
some of these guys are coming back from injuries, so
it usually takes a little bit of time to get them,
for them to get settle and and I think we

(01:43:03):
were getting to that point where we saw like Spencer did,
where he stuff was in his zone. You know, aside
from that first inning when he threw twenty something pitches,
he it was efficient. After that, no walks, His stuff
was really good. And we're going to need some of
those guys to help us out so we can, you know,
not have to lean heavily on our bullpen so early

(01:43:24):
in the game.

Speaker 10 (01:43:25):
Astold's manager Joe a Spot of joining us right here
on Sports Talk seven ninety Joe, I want to get
your opinion on the bullpen right now, especially after what
we saw this past series. Your willingness to go to
them a little bit earlier, knowing that you have some
starters like Christian Javier Spencer Lance coming off of injury.
When you have the opportunity to trust in guys like
from Bervaldez and Hunter Brown over these next two games

(01:43:46):
of Colorado. What is that balance of making sure that
you don't lean too heavily into the bullpen early on
and let these guys kind of work themselves out of jams.

Speaker 8 (01:43:55):
Well, you know, that's that's the key. You know, we're
getting quality starts from Hunter and Valdez and and and
Alexander who's throwing the ball really well, taking us deep
in the games. That's the key, right They they come out,
set the tone early, and they could keep their pitch
counts low, and those guys have shown that they could
pitch out of trouble. Uh, that's the best way to

(01:44:17):
you know, give our bullpen an opportunity to sit in
and watch the game from from from the pen. But
if if we don't get those quality innings, it's quality pitches,
is quality big outs early in the game. Uh, that's
when we are forced to use some of our guys
in the pan. But you know, having Hunter and Valdez

(01:44:39):
and and after an off day, our guys should be
rested and ready to go.

Speaker 10 (01:44:44):
Joe, how important was it to see Jesus Sanchez get
off to a hot start out in the Oriel Park
at Camden just after what he was doing over the
last several weeks and his kind of finding his moment
in his stride here to be able to get seven
hits in the first three games.

Speaker 1 (01:44:58):
How important is that coming home to a nine game
hanging home stand.

Speaker 8 (01:45:01):
Yeah, big, because you know, he finally you know, he's
been hitting the ball hard, but finally see the ball hit,
you know, hit the ball in the air in the gaps.
It was very encouraging the home run that he hit,
and you know, on that first pitch, it was like
a breaking ball and he was able to keep it
in the air and stay through it. And that's just
the two centius that we that we went and got

(01:45:23):
from Miami. That's the tucentia's that he's been able to
you know, hammer right hand or pitching in his career.
Very encouraging. We need we need that bat. We need
that bat in the middle of a lineup to produce,
to drive people in. Uh Man. You know, we saw
him and Christian Walker really put some big swings in
that in that series in Baltimore.

Speaker 1 (01:45:45):
Visiting with Joe A spot of here on Sports Talk
Saidnty skip when you lost Josh, I think the transformation
moving uh a bread of the ninth inning was was
gonna be an easy one. It was gonna be who's
going to pick up that seventh and eighth inning? And
I thought Ben and Susa would have been a great
example for that, and unfortunately he's now down a little bit.
What is the mindset when you talk to your pitching

(01:46:07):
coach about getting some time with those relievers, and you
talk to them yourself about you're now being asked to
go into a spot that you maybe weren't asked to do,
you know, two or three or four weeks ago, when
you kind of had seven, eight and nine basically set
up for yourself.

Speaker 8 (01:46:21):
Yeah, you know those guys, you know, the Brian Kings,
the calib Bord, that Brian Oker that those guys have
been throwing leverage, leverage innings for us, you know, either
in the fifth or the sixth they've been in. They
pitched some big moments throughout the season, so they're not
completely new to this new role. For me, it's just

(01:46:46):
more for them just to be themselves, you know, trust
the game plan, their conviction behind their work, behind every pitch,
just like they've done the whole entire season for us.
To demonstrate, you know, trust and confidencing them because they've
been really good. We we we couldn't be in this
position if he wasn't. From our entire bullpen, my conversations

(01:47:07):
with them, it's just continues to be the same. We
trust you. I want to hand you in the ball
in this moment, in this spot and this against his
pocket because I trust you you're good enough to get
these people out and you you know, we we need
them to step up. And they've been stepping up the
whole entire season our book, and it's been it's been
really really good.

Speaker 1 (01:47:24):
Talking about a bullpen. You added a new arm to it.

Speaker 10 (01:47:27):
And Craig Kimberl we got to see him a little
bit work his way out of a jam on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (01:47:30):
What did you make of him?

Speaker 10 (01:47:31):
What went into the signing and do you expect him
to have a bigger role moving into this series against Colorado?

Speaker 8 (01:47:37):
You know, we like we obviously we like to experience
this guy is pitching big games for his entire you know,
in his entire career. I like his demeanor. Uh, you know,
he has this press about himself. He's still got some
power in his fastball. We like the way he spins
the baseball. So those are the things that we we

(01:47:57):
saw out of him when we when we sign him,
we like and we can help them, you know, be
be better and be more consistent in the strike zone.
And and just like any of these guys, at any moment,
they're going to be pitching, uh, you know, anytime during
the game, depending on who's available, depending on who we like.

(01:48:18):
I don't want to sit down and assign innings for
any of these guys, because it's all hands on deck.
It's if you're available, and and and this pocket it's
it's a it's a good pocket for you. Trust me,
I'm going to give you the ball.

Speaker 1 (01:48:31):
Going back to the injured guys a little bit again
that I'm they were all I think a lot of
folks are energy and excited about. Uh. How long do
you anticipate Jake being a triple any idea in terms
of number of games do you think he'll need down there?

Speaker 8 (01:48:43):
You know what, I don't know the number of games. Uh.
I just really want to get him going and start
getting some feedback from him, so you know, his performance
and and he's how he feels determines how many games
we will leave him. We'll leave him down there so
you know, just to get him going and getting started,
and the fact that he feels good about where he's at,

(01:49:04):
you know, that's it. That's a win for us right now.

Speaker 1 (01:49:06):
And lastly, provided that you do put your on the
line up tonight and he gets off the injured list.
He has not seen a major league game since early May.
Not getting too much into coach speaker managers speak, but
what is the message to him. I would presume a
glad to heavy back and be let's not try to
reinvent the wheel here. We know what you can do
when you're healthy and playing for this team one hundred percent.
I don't think you know.

Speaker 8 (01:49:27):
I don't think your dun needs a motivation speech from me.
He knows exactly where we at. He's he's playing big,
big games in here in Houston. He's he knows exactly
where we at in the season. He knows exactly what
he will bring to our lineup. I'm just gonna see him,
give him a hug and tell him excited to see

(01:49:48):
him back here with the boys. And and you know,
we have we have a job to do, and our
goal is to win this division. And uh He's a
big part of of what we what we need right now.
He brings that, you know that, he provides that injection
of energy that our offense needs and you know, excited
to have them.

Speaker 1 (01:50:06):
And I would presume Skip with that going really without
saying that. He's the lines of communication and to be
super honest. If the hands aren't feeling great, particularly the
needs a day off, He's going to have to be
really forthcoming with you on that.

Speaker 8 (01:50:16):
Correct correct, correct, you know he's you know he needs
to be, and he will be. He will be honest
and will let us know, you know, how he feels,
you know, because that's that's important for us to keep
them in the lineup for the next thirty plus games.
And you know this month of September we have a

(01:50:38):
lot of games in a row. He needs. He will
be honest, He'll let us know how he feels.

Speaker 1 (01:50:44):
Skip, thanks for the time. Is always best of luck
tonight against the Rockies, and it was good to see
guys bounce back in Baltimore. And look forward to you
that lineup card when it comes out in a few hours.

Speaker 8 (01:50:53):
All right, man, thank you, you got it.

Speaker 1 (01:50:54):
Joe spotted with us here on Sports Talk seven on
Well chew on the things he said next twelve forty
four here on Sports Talk seven eighty. All right, so
Joe wouldn't give it up. But that's okay, that's right.

Speaker 10 (01:51:08):
What was more shocking to you that they didn't give
up the information or that we didn't ask him about
what is his favorite Taylor Swiss song?

Speaker 1 (01:51:15):
Nope, I don't What do you think he is? Oh,
I'm sure he's. The kids are he's got two daughters.
Exactly what I was thinking. Yeah, I don't know. You
kind of have to wiggle your ways. He seems like
a wildest dreams type of guy. I will say this,
and I like Joe a lot. He answers the questions.
He does a really good job and very thoughtful. But
my favorite all time Aster interview, and I've done general

(01:51:37):
managers and managers would be a J.

Speaker 8 (01:51:40):
Hinch.

Speaker 1 (01:51:41):
He was just awesome and I miss him. He was
just the best. He probably would answer that question too
about it what is his favorite Taylor Swiss song?

Speaker 8 (01:51:49):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:51:50):
Yeah, And he gave you little things here and there,
but and he got it. He's very very media savvy.

Speaker 10 (01:51:56):
So when you see the line of come out Tonight,
and we'll say around three forty. Well to go with that,
you and on Alvarez in the starting lineup. Yes, I
believe so, Yeah, I again. Boy, if it's if he's not, people.

Speaker 1 (01:52:08):
Are gonna be really wigging out. It's gonna be because
of what else do you need to see?

Speaker 10 (01:52:14):
What else is there that needs to be proven over
the span of forty eight hours for him to get back.
And honestly, if this was even the Angel series, maybe
I could understand not bringing him back today. Wait for
the right lineup, wait for the right picture to go
up against. It's Colorado. Every single picture you will face
over the next three days has an eer A higher

(01:52:36):
than five.

Speaker 1 (01:52:37):
Ye, this is the spot to do it. It's pound
for pound the worst pitching staff in baseball, really is.
I don't even think it's the pound for pound. I
just think it straight up is factual information outside. And
also it doesn't matter that they're playing away from course field.
Your lineup right now is getting hot at the right time.
He's a left handed bat that you would love to
be able to put in the two, three or four hole,
adding in more validity and allow you to spend your

(01:52:59):
life up and kind of get creative with it. And
figure out what is going to be the plan when
he gets to October, because he's going to be back
for October. So let's do this. Let's let's do the one.
Um now, all right? Cool? Pina Paya one Korea you go,
Korea two, Al two B three okay, your On four okay,
Walker five okay, Diaz six okay, and then the other

(01:53:20):
three spots moving around right. Paya one, Korea two, Yeah,
don't do it, don't say it. I know I don't
want to stay with what I say. I know you
don't agree with me. Al two three you go, I'll
make a switch here. Hey's your Sanchas four? Youd On
five for tonight? Oh to kind of not put as

(01:53:43):
a munch of pressure on him. Oh you know what
now I don't like that because it's back back left handers. Yes,
so there we go. I don't want you don't want
Sanchez AGAs, so then I would do Okay, So then
what is that left handed picture? I believe so it's
a little double him.

Speaker 10 (01:53:55):
If it's a left handed picture, then Sanchez isn't playing.
You have cancement bat ninth, that's what you do. Alvarez
is four. I don't like that, because I don't think
the heat belongs in the four hole. I think it
is Gordon's right hander. So we're good, okay, all right,
so Albarez four, I agree with you. Walker five, Sanchez six.

(01:54:16):
I will go D seven.

Speaker 1 (01:54:17):
Okay, and then you're you're kind of splitting here's but
I can go either way on that.

Speaker 10 (01:54:21):
I think that you have to have you have to
have a right handed bat in between Sanchezan and Sanchezan
and Albarez.

Speaker 1 (01:54:28):
Yeah, because you want a little bit of that righty
lefty switch. The other thing you could do, and I
think this should be wrong. Do you about a two
base second? Do you about Jordan third, Korea fourth? I
kind of like Korea took too right now.

Speaker 10 (01:54:44):
And this is the problem that I have because if
I don't want Jordan in the fore hoole, I want
him higher up if he's healthy.

Speaker 1 (01:54:49):
Oh, I don't think that's and when we talk about this,
we're just we're talking largely in semantics. I don't think
it's a dramatic difference between four three, But I think
for just the welcome back to the big leagues, you know,
maybe if if the team goes unfortunately one two to three,
in the first there is not only sort of super
big pressure in him to provide some big punch right away.

(01:55:12):
I mean again, if there's such a thing as a
dramatic difference between four and three, I'll need to see that.
But I think there's a very subtle little change you
could put in there. And that's why I think clean
up for him, at least for now makes most sense. Now,
if he comes back and starts slugging and opsing over
a thousand, right, you can certainly make the change on that.

Speaker 10 (01:55:29):
If he's going seven to twelve over the next three
days and he has two long balls and an extra
base had I think I want him higher.

Speaker 1 (01:55:34):
But all two B's all, you know. All Al two
B does is smack, right, His ops is above eight hundred,
he gets multiple hits per game. He still leads a
team in home runs. I mean, all this, all the
good stuff.

Speaker 10 (01:55:45):
This is the worst second will have before I got
to get on out of here and get ready for
my show. If you had Al two B in the
nine hole, it'd be stupid, but it also would be
really interesting because of all he does is smack, So
it gets you right back to the top of the lineup.

Speaker 1 (01:55:55):
And you guarantee the gun base. Yeah. Again, these are
wonderful problems to have, exactly because certainly, and you always
say when you do this, when you say certainly, no
disrespect something, you're digging disrespart one hundred percent saying trying
to figure out where to Mauricio D. Bond fits in best,
Taylor Tremmell fits in best. Jacob Mountain fits in best.

(01:56:15):
Smith wants you at this point, you're really saying seven
eight nine is what you're saying.

Speaker 10 (01:56:19):
You're trying to figure out what is going to be
the rotation of right right left or left left right
or left right left for that order of seven eight nine.

Speaker 1 (01:56:26):
That's all it is. It's the six guys that you
haven't had. Yeah, all right, So there will be a
DH According to a Joe A. Spotta, he would not
tell us who it was. But again and then Jake
Myers being at Triple A is a huge sign of positivity.

Speaker 10 (01:56:38):
Okay, so he's said Triple A. He did not give
us a he did not give us a date, dud.
Does he return for the Yankees series or will he
return for the Mariners series? Because that is when I
think the arrival is.

Speaker 1 (01:56:49):
Does he leave dyke in Park with games under his belt,
or is his first game back out in Seattle. The
road trip is Philip is not Seattle. It is Rangers
in Atlanta, Toronto, Arlington. That's right, Yeah, yeah, yeah, So
that he will at least make his debut in the
stay of Texas. I think when my guess is this,

(01:57:10):
I mean, how many days does he need? Does he
need a series? Does he need a week?

Speaker 10 (01:57:15):
Hamstrings are weird though, that's the problem lower body injuries
like that.

Speaker 1 (01:57:19):
You could snap it immediately right after so and remember
remember how even the organization it made it as much.
They brought back him to early a couple of years
ago with off the shoulder situation, and he was affected
by that. So I think Jake's probably got a few
more belt you know, notches. Now he's a veteran, and
he kind of can say, look, I'm ready to go,
or I need a few more days.

Speaker 10 (01:57:39):
I think at this point you allow him to make
the call while also getting as many reps as possible
underneath them. So let's just say he's back tomorrow. He
ends up getting a couple of good swings, you keep
him back for another day. Yep, you get him ready
for the upcoming weekend. Yeah, and then by Monday he says,
I'm ready to come back, but I think that my
body just needs a day off. Cool, you'll wait to

(01:58:00):
go ahead and bring Hi back on Tuesday. I could
see that.

Speaker 1 (01:58:01):
I see him playing the Yankee series. I agree and
that and that means you're now probably again presuming that
Jake Myers offensively as the same player he was before
he got hurt. You're not talking about a seven man,
really good deep line.

Speaker 10 (01:58:14):
So think about this for a second. Now you know
that you have your top seven, your question is what
do you do with the last two? And who are
the last two? Arias Dubon, cam Smith and let's just
say Jacob Meltain for right now. It may end up
being somebody else, but Jake a Mountain for right now.
That's a very good problem to have going into these

(01:58:35):
last stretch of games, so long as your pitching prevails
enough for you to continue to win.

Speaker 1 (01:58:40):
We haven't said seven deep in the Astros lineup in
this season. Maybe everything about this When jord I was
with the team in the first month of the year,
it wouldn't hitt very much. But also we didn't know
what camp Smith was going to be and then Cam
got hot, right, we didn't know what we were gonna
get from Jake Myers at the time because we were
still banking on No. One Jake Myers. I thought it
was gonna because the president I'm talking about logically thinking people.

Speaker 10 (01:59:04):
We still didn't know what Victor Kerttini was and he
had a big time role Jamie Pania and the lead
off spot was very impressive in its own right. So
this is probably the first time, and again it's on paper,
not on field, because we still got to see this
version of Christian Walker, this version of Yana Diaz, this
version of Hejesus Sanchez, and a healthy Jordon Alvarez all

(01:59:26):
in the lineup.

Speaker 1 (01:59:27):
But do you think that the reality is all those
guys you just mentioned now down a spot in the order,
which means not necessarily less pressure, but more to a
applicable of what their level of batting excellence has been
this year.

Speaker 10 (01:59:40):
What I'm saying, though, is that we have to see
it off paper, but if it continues to trend in
that direction, we're having a legit conversation about how good
is your top seven in a lineup?

Speaker 1 (01:59:49):
Which is good feels great going since really opening Dame
when you think about it. All right, thank you for
coming in hanging out with us, appreciate. We've got the
head coach, Willie Fritz to join us in one half hour.
We've got your phone calls coming up. And again it's
I mean, without giving away too much, he did sound
rather optimistic about the season. No about bringing your to

(02:00:10):
him back, of course he did. You're not explaining that.
Can I give a shout out? Real fast?

Speaker 7 (02:00:13):
For a go?

Speaker 1 (02:00:15):
It depends how long it's going to be. Five seconds,
go ahead.

Speaker 10 (02:00:17):
Congratulations to my brother and my sister in Las Scarlett
on your first baby.

Speaker 1 (02:00:20):
Cannot wait to meet her. It's Scarlett's name, daughter's name.
I'm not allowed to say. I can tell her. Wait
a minute, her nickname is pieces. Wait wait a minute.
You just gave a shout out to them, but we
can't say the name of the child. God, I don't
really care. Emily, what's the problem with that. Emily's fine name.
Emily's a fine name. I wanted him to be the
one to announce it to the city of Feuse to
not me, Well, what is he organ media? Does he?

Speaker 9 (02:00:42):
No?

Speaker 1 (02:00:42):
Not? Really? Well, then you did it.

Speaker 10 (02:00:44):
You are the segue for him Emily walk into the world.
So why and pieces is the nickname Reese's Pieces. Her
male name is Reese.

Speaker 1 (02:00:52):
Oh my middle son's name, middle name is Reese. Congratulations.
Do you want to meddle?

Speaker 6 (02:01:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:01:01):
And this end the hour in such a better note.
That is our buddy cl Thompson. You'll be producing t
you coming up at an hour from now. All right,
I've decided to do half Taylor Swift and half Travis Kelcey,
and believe it or not, I'm not proud, and these
things are terrible because I'm trying to do the show
and we've had Colin for a couple of hours, we

(02:01:21):
had Joe, so it's it's not my best work. But
here's the good news. Today we are giving away prizes
for one correct answer. We have so many prizes in
the prize ball. We've got to take care of those folks.
So get ready for your chance to win some amazing prizes.
You will not be winning Taylor Swift tickets, but you'll
be winning other nice things. If you know Taylor Swift

(02:01:42):
and Travis Kelsey conversation and that it's coming up today
on Believe it or Not, at one fifty. Willie Fritz
with us at one at one thirty. You may join
us right now at seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two, one two five
seven ninety It is the Thomas Show with Ross No Ross.
We thank Cole Thompson for hanging in for a couple

(02:02:03):
of hours and now it's you and me for the
next fifty five minutes. We got some folks that are
anxiusly wedding online. Jordan Alvarez, who I could not get
it out of the manager if he's definitively starting, but
sounded very optimistic if I put that in a way,
and hopefully he'll be in the DHROL tonight as the
Astros start as a three game series with the Colorado Rockies.

(02:02:23):
Jesse and the gallery is with his son seven Hony.
Hello Jesse, Hey, what's up?

Speaker 6 (02:02:28):
Man go Kus?

Speaker 1 (02:02:29):
Thank you?

Speaker 6 (02:02:30):
I just wanted to ask really quickly, Misterre's any updom
Zach Dezenzo. I haven't heard anything on him.

Speaker 1 (02:02:37):
I have not heard anything more than a hitting He's
in some hitting progression now. They will update the latest
injuries today, probably when they release their game notes, which
will be in about an hour and a half from now,
but nothing as at this point. Are you you a big?

Speaker 9 (02:02:52):
Are you?

Speaker 1 (02:02:52):
Are you a big Zach Decenzo guy. Oh, I think
he's pretty solid.

Speaker 8 (02:02:57):
I think he could help the team.

Speaker 1 (02:02:59):
I've kind of forgotten about him. I mean it's kind
of congested in the outfield right now.

Speaker 5 (02:03:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (02:03:04):
No, I don't think like you know, it's it's urgent
to have him in the lineup.

Speaker 8 (02:03:08):
I just wanted to know because I haven't heard on
him at all.

Speaker 6 (02:03:11):
Yeah, as opposed to Jake Myers or any of those.

Speaker 1 (02:03:14):
Yeah, I promise you, Jesse, if you call the show,
even if you call off fair and just remind Jonathan
to give you, I will have a definitive update for
you on Zach Descenzo by tomorrow. Cool. I appreciate it,
Thank you very much. Thanks for the phone call. Go Coogs. Yeah,
first call the gate at one o'clock our little Zach Descenzo. Come.
I don't even remember much about Zach Descenso isn't that terrible.

(02:03:35):
There have been so many players that have been hurt
this year, and so many guys that have patrolled the outfield.
I forgot he was injured. Oh I I didn't forget
he was injured. I just forgot how he did. He
was beening pretty good back then. I mean, take a
look at old Zach Descenzo's number. Yeah, I mean, oh,
Jake was doing great. Yeah. The last update on him,

(02:03:58):
I mean we're talking to about oh it says, okay,
I got something. This is something. Nearing a rehab assignment soon.
He's been taking part of hitting progression as he recovers
from a left hand inflammation. He's been the injured in
since June first. I mean that's a long ass time.

Speaker 8 (02:04:22):
Now.

Speaker 1 (02:04:22):
He was put on the sixty day injured list a
month ago so they could clarrespond the forty man. I
mean to take a look at old Zach. Can you
were talking Zach Decenzo one await the night before Jordan Alvarez.

Speaker 9 (02:04:33):
You know what.

Speaker 1 (02:04:34):
That's all. We're a show of the people. You guys
want Zach Decenzo, We're gonna give you. Zack Descenzo. Ninety
eight at bats for the Astros this year to forty
five is batting average with the ten ribis. I mean,
it's fine. Got sixty two at bats last year, bat
at two forty two. He's got a career bating average

(02:04:55):
one hundred and sixty at bats through two forty fours
and sample sizes remarkably small. So yeah, I don't necessarily
think it's going to be he's gonna be the difference maker,
but you never know. Remember, if you're in the organization
by September the first you can be used for a
playoff group in a series. Now, every time you play

(02:05:16):
a new series, whether it's a wild card series, the
Divisional series, the Al Series CS or hopefully the World Series,
you can readjust your lineup. For instance, win the Astros.
Hopefully when the American League West or the worst case
are in the wild Card, they will only need three
starting pitchers. So I wouldn't be surprised if half the

(02:05:36):
guys that are pitching right now in the Sorn rotation
would not be eligible. It wouldn't be on the twenty
six man roster. You may be able to keep one
of the guys that come help me your late, your
middle relief guy, long inning guy, if one of those
other guys struggle. But as I said yesterday on the show,
I think when the dust settles, when the Astros play
their first round series, you're going to see Hunter Frommer

(02:05:59):
and I think think Arrogated's going to get the nod,
and I think Jason Alexander is going to be on
this playoff roster for the first round series as a
long guy, would be my guess. I would be stunned
if Lance McCullers makes the playoff roster in the first round.
Unless he turns things around, that number three spot is
wide open. Let's be brutally honest. I mean, short of

(02:06:22):
the continued implosion of from Er Valdez, he's going to
be starting Game two of the playoff series. And of
course injuries too, which is crazy. We don't want to
presume injuries, but lord knows his team has gone through
quite a few of them. I really want Arogaated to
get going. I think Aragetty is a high strikeout guy.

(02:06:43):
I think he's got the good he's got the good
ability to pitch in some big moments. And I think
after you know, throwing a bunch of pitches in that
first game and that he had in Baltimore, he was
able to settle down a little bit and give you
almost six innings of work. So I was a lot
more encouraged about Arragetty. At said the second inning that
I was when I saw him in the first inning
of that game. So there you have it again. The Astros,

(02:07:08):
usually when they start a home stand or start a series,
will give a full recap of everybody in their injured list.
And as Joe spotted Trolos earlier, you're going to see
Jake Myers down in TRIAA. It's a good sign, really
really really good sign. Then you have a legit center
fielder who had a really good batting average and obviously

(02:07:30):
fielded his positioned well.

Speaker 2 (02:07:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:07:33):
That's one of the crazy things about this season is
that even though the team offensively has struggled, it hasn't
been a defensive liability. That's the best part of this
is that no matter what lineup has been put out there,
how many different guys have played center, how many guys
I mean, Cam Smith and Hayesu Sanche has been your
primary right fielders this year, even when Jose was out

(02:07:54):
there playing left. I mean, he wasn't gold Glove, but
he didn't embarrass himself and he's not okay second base
and Bryce Matthews won the short time he was you know,
with the team playing at second base, he was a
guy that could help out the cause. There a little bit,
and he's obviously with the team now but not playing
a whole lot because he replaced Tremill who got hurt
last week. This team has been able to overcome numerous

(02:08:18):
injuries down years from some of their key guys, and
completely different lineups almost every single night, and you know
what they're doing. They're still defending the ball verly, really well,
and that's what's been able to be I think that
one of the most unsung things about this Astro run
of the last ten years is this team has never

(02:08:38):
had a woeful defense. Did you watch a Baltimore Oriols series?
The Orioles were kicking the ball left and right. That's
a terrible baseball team. First of all, they're bad team
as it is, underperforming, but their defense was atrocious. Very
few times. If we ever had a conversation on this
show in the last nine years, going what the hell
are the Astros thinking? Defensively, they try to move al

(02:09:00):
two Be to left field. That was the game plan,
but unfortunately your Ison's injury force otherwise than other changes.
That's why al Tuoba had to stay in the lineup
and play second base a little bit, and obviously primarily
DH That'll be the most interesting thing for me to
see what Joe doesn't how he balances al tub wanting
to play every day you're on hopefully playing four to

(02:09:22):
five days a week. Who plays left, who plays short?
And who's the DH. And there's gonna be some guys
like Christian Walker, who's gonna want a dhday? Yannerda is
gonna want a dhday? There's only one DH in the lineup.
These are little intricacies that I think Joe's gonna have
to really think about over the next handful of weeks.
One thirteen on Sports Talk seven ninety seven one three

(02:09:45):
two one two five seven nine zero seven to one
three two one two five seven ninety Willie Fritz to
join us in about fifteen minutes. All things about Taylor
Swift and congratulations on her engagement. That's today's edition, I
believe or not. It's one fourteen on of a ninety.
Trying to do Taylor Swift, believe it or not, while
trying to host a radio show is difficult. I gotta

(02:10:06):
be honest with you, aren't you? Isn't your wife and
daughter a big yeah? But but my daughter's in school
and I can't reach her because certain her phones turned off,
and Kim is having a lunch with a friend. This
is not you know what, I don't get paid enough honestly.

(02:10:29):
Oh all right, UH, let me check out and see
if anything's going on in the world of life. Here
the big news again, two big stories today. The Astro
is starting a series of the Rockies. Actually there's several
stories tonight. Uh, Jake Myer is gonna start for sugar Land.
It's a very encouraging sign. And Alvarez the presumption is
to be back in the lineup tonight. And Jordan and

(02:10:52):
uh oh the h Taylor Swift and uh is getting
married to uhs Kelsey. What do you give them for
a gift? You know what I would do? Honestly, I'd
probably make a donation to one of their favorite charities. Right,
wouldn't that be the right gift? I could even tell
you you can't give them clothes or anything. I mean,

(02:11:13):
they have all the money for that, right. I guess
it's the thought that counts. Candles count you have going
wrong with candles? Yeah, you're not bright candles, just you know,
some good, not the bad. You know, the wrath and
waddy works. You gotta get to Oh, you don't wanna
go Wrath and Roddy works. No, you don't get them
a little more high end? You know something you know? No, no, no, no,

(02:11:36):
I think if you're worth combined two billion, one hundred
million dollars, I don't think you do gifts. What do
you do?

Speaker 8 (02:11:46):
Like?

Speaker 1 (02:11:46):
First thing, are you doing a destination wedding? Are you
paying for everybody to go? I would hope they're paying
for everybody to go to the wedding. There's no there's
no way, Jonathan, if I ever get remarried again, which
is the chances that is zero?

Speaker 6 (02:11:59):
Uh uh.

Speaker 1 (02:12:02):
Yeah, if you get if you're carrying that kind of
money you are, you are basically, uh, you're chartering a plane, right,
But I mean you're my guess you're also inviting people
that are of all. I mean, like, if you're not
asking Pat, you can ask Pat Mahomes to come into
the wedding and he's he can afford it. Right, It's
gonna be more of his teammates though, definitely. I mean,

(02:12:25):
how big is the bridal party going to be? I mean,
how many girlfriends she have? And does she invite any
of the ex husbands, the ex boyfriends who I mean. Basically,
her success is off of her their ex boyfriends, right right,
all those songs about him? All right, we again, We're done.
I'm sorry, low hanging fruit. I apologize. I didn't mean
to get into Taylor's archive of lyrics seven one three

(02:12:46):
two one two. I'm writing Taylors I believe it or not.
That's why, the reason why I was doing that terrible
seven one three two one two five seven nine. We're
gonna only ask him for one correct answer. When prize
we had a bunch of prize giveaway coming up, and
that'll be doing in about thirty minutes. Now. We got
Willie Fritz coming up at dot one thirty looking forward
to that. All right, what else is going on? We
mentioned the astros mentioned that, uh, there's Texans cuts today. Honestly,

(02:13:11):
I don't think you know who many these people are.
Trent Brown is gonna probably go to the practice squad.
He was an offensive tackle and never actually took part
in anything because he was hurt the whole time. Is
there anything else that I should mention? I'm trying to
think of who's here and who's not here. Yeah, I
don't these people. I don't even think you guys care

(02:13:31):
about Oh Joe Mixon's out, and that kind of happened.
It is funny. It happened again as soon as the
A team started. Every time they go on the year,
they get some kind of juicy little news tip, but
they can run with. It's the perfect time for me.
I'm catching her sloppy seconds. I mean, you got to
tell a swipping jobs close today though. That is true,

(02:13:53):
that is true. I did get that. That's true. That
was a force. That was a force news sounder, breaking
news sound or any think on that one. Uh but yeah,
uh mixings out four weeks now. The Texans schedule goes
like this the first four I think I said about
a month ago, maybe a little sooner than that. I
think the Texans are going to go three and one
in their first four games. It goes like this. They

(02:14:17):
open up at on the road in Los Angeles, then
they're home for a Monday night game against the Buccaneers.
Then they go on the road to Jacksonville and then
a home for Tennessee. Then they play at Baltimore. That
puts them into five weeks. Then they get a week
off and then they play the Monday night game in Seattle.

(02:14:42):
I will go ahead and make you know I'm add
to my gut feelings on this job and write this down.
The first time we see Joe Mixon play at the
very earliest is in Seattle. I don't know if I want,
I don't want. I don't know if I want Joe
Mixon playing his first game in Baltimore. You know what
I'm saying, Well, it depends on what the record is

(02:15:05):
looking at right. Well, I mean the Ravens defenses. I
mean that's a that's a that's a Super Bowl contending
type team. Yeah, Seattle to me feels like a much
bit more of a soft landing spot. That gets him too.
Between today is the twenty sixth. That game in Seattle
is just shy of two months away that would get

(02:15:31):
I mean, now here's the question mark. We don't know
how severe the injury is because the Texans have not
announced that. That's what I was just gonna ask you about.
Remember earlier that if his if his ankle and foot
are shattered or something where he requires multiple pins in
it or whatever, then us even thinking about him playing
in week seven is kind of presumptuous.

Speaker 3 (02:15:48):
Well't think about it is probably it's got to be
major if you're already preseason saying he's not gonna be
back to all.

Speaker 1 (02:15:53):
That's right, right, that's right. So even though I've just
tried to predict that he's going to be ready for
that game against Seattle, this could be a season ending
type thing. And I guess the question I want to
know is when did this happen? How did it happen?

Speaker 3 (02:16:09):
And it almost feels like it happened when Dimiko Ryan
was upset with the media. You don't care about my players,
So it's like he knew.

Speaker 1 (02:16:15):
Well, he obviously knew stuff there. And that's the one
Here's the one thing, Jonathan that's hard is that. And
maybe it's because we just have so much more media
today than we had, you know, back in the day.
I hate to be back in the day, guy, but
I'm going to be back in the day guy. For
a second, it felt like that these teams were a
little more not peel behind the curtain, but we're a

(02:16:37):
little more forthcoming now. We've got everybody's trying to be sly. Like,
for instance, when you ask a coach about a player
in his injuries, you're not trying to do it because
you're trying to be in a gotcha moment. You're doing
it because like, for instance, I asked Joe is is
your on going to play d H today? And he

(02:16:59):
didn't want to necessarily say it here on the show.
And that's fine.

Speaker 8 (02:17:01):
I get it.

Speaker 1 (02:17:02):
Maybe he wanted to build the drama of having on
the on the lineup car Andyody going oh, look at
the lineup card, it's there. I mean, I get it.
But there were people that were listening to our conversation
that wanted to know. Astro fans came to this radio
station at twelve thirty to hear what the manager had
to say about it. They're going to go to the
head coach and Dimiko Ryans and say, hey, you know

(02:17:23):
what exactly happened? And I certainly don't hope. I don't
anticipate him saying I don't know what went wrong, because
that would be a lie. I don't think. I think
Demik there's a difference in not telling us the whole
story and line. But under no circumstance did I ever
think that when he said he'll be ready you know whatever.

(02:17:48):
Demiko said that one day when he was kind of
getting terse that this was something that this couldn't have
been in the possibilities when you don't take a part
in many camps, when you don't take part in OTAs,
and you're not ready for day one and training camp
and you're not seeing Warren pads or in uniform. I mean,
it didn't take it didn't take a mental genius to
figure out that there's something going on with him. And

(02:18:13):
maybe it's because I'm on this side of the microphone
and it's compared to the other side of the wall.
But I think sometimes transparency is a wonderful thing. I
would agree with you again if you're if you're trying
to hide a game plan. For instance, for the Rams,
the Rams knew that he wasn't gonna be ready. The

(02:18:33):
Rams knew no who Joe Mixon is. So trying to say,
you know, he may or may not be ready for
the season opener, I guarantee you that the Rams are
not sitting there. Go well, if he's playing, we gotta
we gotta figure something out out. Now they know who
Nick Chubb is and no man Damian Pierces. They don't
know who what he marks is. But I don't think
what he marks is gonna have a huge role in
this game, even if Joe Mixon was ready. So transparencies

(02:18:57):
were looking for in sports. Uh and unfortunately it's not
just one team or one league. It's frankly all of them.
Let's talk to Willie Fritz. He's up next. Our time
is one twenty seven. It is the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross the Giant chiro practic to the official chiropractor
of the University of Houston Athletics. Joining us right now

(02:19:17):
courtesy the joint is the head football coach of your
Houston Cougar's season number two for Willie Fritz coach, It's Matt.
How are things house practice? And how's that new football
practice facility?

Speaker 9 (02:19:30):
Oh it's something else appreciate you hadving me on that,
by the way. Yeah, this Memorial Herman Football Operations Center
just outstanding. It's kind of pitch myself every time I
walk in here in the morning. Great facilities for these
two athletes. You know, we've got unreal weight room. I
think our weight room is twenty six thousand square feet.

(02:19:52):
It's on the third floor. It overlooks the city, but
it's got every piece of equipment known to man carrying,
great law room, training room, you know, the academic center
for the guys is where we eat at so you know,
we spend a lot of time up here, and the
people who generously funded this really did a fantastic job

(02:20:14):
with the design of the building.

Speaker 1 (02:20:16):
And the reality is coach and look, you'd love to
be able to say it's about school, it's about x's
and o's about winning football games. But there's so many
different intangibles, and we've certainly talked about those over the years.
But the facilities where these kids spend so much time.
I mean this it's like their second home. Besides their
dorm room is where you guys are practicing right now.

Speaker 9 (02:20:37):
You know, we get up here early. We're a morning
practice team. You know, our guys take their classes in
the afternoons. We found this most efficient way to do
it here academically and also football wise, So they get
up here around five point thirty six o'clock in the
morning and they're usually out of here by they eat
lunch and everything at one o'clock going to class, So

(02:21:00):
for a large portion of the.

Speaker 1 (02:21:01):
Day, Willie, Your theme getting to Know the Kids was
year one. Is there such a theme for theme two?
In year two of the Willie Fritz Ara at University
of Houston.

Speaker 9 (02:21:12):
Yeah, you know, we talk about every time we break
a huddle, we say Houston, we're talking about twenty twenty five.
I'm trying to get these guys to understand that we've
got to develop these relationships quickly. And this day and
age of college athletics, you know, you got a lot
of turnover with your team every year. We had a
lot less this year than we had last year, and

(02:21:34):
hopefully have even less next year. And then you know
the turnover to the majority of it will be incoming freshman,
coming in high school guys. But you know, I wanted
these guys to you know, establish relationships as quickly as
they could. And you know, when you when you have that,
you got a chance to have that culture which is
so important in every sport or anything that you do.

(02:21:54):
And you know, I've seen that out of these guys,
they seem to do a good job of you know,
wanting to of each other, and you know they're trying
to meet everybody on the team, not just their little
click and that's something we're working on trying to develop
and just really just worrying about this team. Understand, we
got to cook this in like a microwaven instead of it.

(02:22:15):
Of it, you know, get it done quickly. If we
want to have the success we want to have this season.

Speaker 1 (02:22:20):
You went to go get an experienced quarterback. I know
Connor's time perhaps at A and M was not what
he had thought in terms of performance. I know it
was battling injuries. A little bit. Take us through the
quick thirty second run through of how the relationship began
between yourself and your new starting quarterback.

Speaker 9 (02:22:37):
Well, you know, a lot of it. I do. Sean Beller,
quarterback coach. Sean I think offered Connor first, you know,
coming out of high school. I think maybe a sophomore
year or something like that. And I had a little
bit of a relationship with my actually coaches his father
at Sam Houston State back in nineteen ninety one, a
couple of years ago, so there's a little bit of

(02:22:58):
familiarity there. But I think the big deal he just
wanted a fresh already wanted to do it in the
city of Houston. You know, it's family, serious friends are here,
and he just wanted that opportunity to come in and
you know, on the front end with the coach, you
just got here you know with the quarterback coach that
he really likes respects. So it's been a real good

(02:23:22):
situation for both sides.

Speaker 1 (02:23:24):
Not to age myself coach, but Connor's dad and I
went to the same high school. He was two years
older than I was, So I know Chad quite well.
I don't know Chad his Yeah, Main Creek High School,
the Harvard of Southeast Texas.

Speaker 9 (02:23:39):
Gotcha, got you, No, Chad was a tough old linebacker
for it's to say in Houston back in the day.

Speaker 1 (02:23:45):
So what he put on tape as compared to what
you wanted to see in front of you with his
new teammates, how much of adjustment has it been for him?

Speaker 9 (02:23:56):
It's been a big adjustment. I think he went through
two offensive systems at A and M. We obviously I
had a different offensive system in high school and now
we're throwing a different one at him. So there's a
lot of adjustment. You know, I got a brand new
offensive coordinator, new defensive coordinator as well, and you know,
so these kids, uh, you know, I had to you know, this,
this team has become very very complex. You know, I

(02:24:18):
actually setting the quarterback meeting this morning early, and you know,
there's a lot of things. It's not just a call
a play and let's go. You know, there's a lot
of things involved with it. And you know, when you
have quarterback or really any position on the offense, defense
or kicking game, guys got as some intelligence. I mean,
it's there's a lot of moving parts and uh, you know,

(02:24:40):
and that changes from week to week based on who
you're playing. And Connor certainly is a sharp young man,
and you know he's able to process all that information.

Speaker 1 (02:24:51):
Where has been your biggest challenge and maybe it's a
good thing, determining your death chart at one position, both
offensively and defensively. Where been the biggest position battles?

Speaker 9 (02:25:02):
Oh, there's a bunch of an offensive line. I think
we're gonna go ahead and rotate seven or eight guys.
And this is I'm excited about the fact that we
we do have competition. We're gonna play about six UH
wide receivers early in the season, you know, running backs
we'll play three or four guys. Tight ends we're gonna
play two or three guys primarily linebackers, probably three or

(02:25:26):
four guys the first week. UH front four we'll play
about ten guys early in the season and secondary probably
you know, six or seven guys, so there's you know,
we're gonna determine what our our starting lineup is, you know,
and who's gonna play the majority of the staffs probably
after two or three ball games. You know, you do

(02:25:46):
all this practicing, but you're you're not going against a
different team. You're not tackling to the ground every day
and seeing guys making decisions and pressure pack situations. So
we're still going to be evaluating early in the season.
But I like the fact that we've got competition. There's
a lot of spots. Last year, we just didn't have that.

Speaker 1 (02:26:06):
Wellie, when you and I visited almost one year to
the date, you said after the first game, you were
afraid that that moments in the game, in your first
game as a Cougars coach, at the moment was the
game was moving really fast for a lot of young
men because there was so much transition in so many
new positions and so many new guys. Is that just
going to be a part of any team, especially in

(02:26:26):
twenty twenty five, when you are using the transfer portal
to move guys so many guys in you obviously want
to bring some more freshmen in and build a program.
But it's that for at least the next couple of years.
One of the things you try to coach up as
best you can. Of Hey, we're playing a game on Thursday.
It's one of twelve, and let's not pretend it's the
first time we've ever played a football game in our life.

Speaker 9 (02:26:47):
Yeah. I tell these guys all the time, each one
of these games counts as one. None of them kunds
are half. Now them counts two. So you got to
put everything into it as you possibly can. You know,
we want to get to the point in our football
program where we've got a lot of you know, returning
guys year after year after year, retaining them a year
after year after year. That's how you develop a guy
and you get them better. But one of the things

(02:27:09):
the NCAA has changed is they allow you to do
a lot more in the off season. You know, one time,
he really couldn't see the guys. You know, you go
through the weight room a little bit, but you had
to be lifting weights. Now they allow you to use
the football a couple hours a week, and you know,
you got spring football. Obviously, we're able to do a
lot of things we have twenty five practice here before

(02:27:32):
the first ball game. So you know, there's been a
lot of work, you know, in meeting rooms, you know,
for spring ball, fall camp, and then also you know,
a lot more practices than what you used to be
able to have. You know, spring ball you got fifteen,
you got twenty five year preseason camp, you know, and
then you are able to do what a lot of

(02:27:54):
people do, kind of like copying the NFL's OTAs you know,
we call football schools here. We'll do that a couple
of times a week for an hour as well, along
with lifting weights and you know, doing movement and running,
so you get a lot more access to the guys
than you were able to have ten years ago.

Speaker 1 (02:28:13):
Last question, and give me a thought or two about SFA.
You know them from your days in the Southland the
way back in the day. But that's obviously we're in
a different world now, and it feels like to me
the differences between these FCS schools today that maybe when
you were first in the industry has changed a lot
of it because they use the junior college route, they
use the transfer portal, and they're probably a little deeper

(02:28:34):
in terms of a roster size and depth and maybe
schools of maybe ten or fifteen years ago.

Speaker 9 (02:28:40):
Yeah, they got a lot of returning players, a lot
of returning starters offensively, defensively. I noticed in the kicking
game and a couple of phases they had nine to
eleven starters coming back in the kicking game. You don't
see that very often, you know. Coach carpl has done
a super job there. They you know, came within a
whisker of making the NCAA playoffs this past season. Uh,

(02:29:02):
you know, returning quarterback, all their coordinators are back offense, defense,
kicking games. So it's a veteran group. You know, without
without question that we're going to be playing on Thursday night.

Speaker 1 (02:29:13):
Can't wait for a coach so happy to have you
back with us on a weekly basis. Best of luck
against the Jacks on Thursday, and we will talk again
next week. And thank you for the time as always.
Thank you, Matt Gokuz. All right, thank you as Willie Fritz,
head football coach of your Houston Cougar's with us here
and it's brought to you by the Joint Chiropractic All
things about Taylor Swift. This is gonna be probably the
worst believe or not I've ever done in my entire life. Listen,

(02:29:41):
Wexller and Clinton just came in and said, Hey, we
really want to do a lot of Taylor Swift talk
on their show today. So if you guys got any
questions about their engagement to uh Travis Kelsey, let them know.
They want your phone calls as many as possible, especially
the two o'clock hour. Right Jonathan didn't there, didn't call
come in and say exactly. I think he just on

(02:30:02):
breakfast tell me, hey, we want those tailor calls. They
want the Taylor calls he wants. They want you to
call in with what gifts that you should give them.
Where they should have the wedding, what kind of tux
you know he should wear? Go tails or go zoot suit.
Guess how much he spent on that ring, How much
he spent on the ring? What else they want to oh,
what they should serve at the wedding, How big the

(02:30:25):
wedding party should be, where the engagement party should be,
Where they should have the rehearsal dinner. That kind of stuff.
Not enough time on our show today, two to six
Sports Talk seven ninety's plenty of time for that. They
want that as much as possible, so inundate their phones

(02:30:46):
with as much Taylor Swift conversation as possible because they
love it all right. On the show tomorrow, Gordy's going
to hang out with us for a couple hours ten
o'clock ntil noon. We got shut your ball mass up.

(02:31:08):
what's gonna be a good walk?

Speaker 8 (02:31:09):
Do we go?

Speaker 1 (02:31:10):
Welcome back by John Sebastian. What's a good welcome back song?
Doesn't depend on how he plays? I think it does
depend on how he plays. Then it depends on that
sad welcome back or like nostalgic welcome back. I don't know.
That's a good question. Yeah, we gotta be ready for that.

(02:31:30):
So tomorrow it'll be an ode to yord On Alvarez
pro buddy plays. I mean gotta be terrible if he didn't.

with an hour and he's like, yeah, he cats the ballparkment,
what if he walks in goes? My hands are throbbing like,
oh hell no, don't say that.

Speaker 3 (02:31:48):
And that's that'd be the only thing because he did
all the practice. I know he did everything he had
to five minutes left to.
