as skippering that aj Hinch did,and talked about Game seven of the World
Series being one of the best gamesof all time. And today, Joe

anymore than we played at the topof the Matt Thomas Show earlier today,
and he didn't have anything too crazyto say, just fumbled the word here
or there and sounded really old.But that's what Joe Biden is anyways.
So that happened today and that's notnecessarily big news to me personally, But

I guess the astro's news over theweekend was that they split the series with
the New York Yankees, and JoseAltuve continues to do great things at Yankee
Stadium. I mean, I reallyjust love watching him the hearts of Yankees
fans, and unfortunately he had theopportunity to do that on what Thursday night,
the game one of the series.A couple of guys on at the
end of the game down one runand they weren't able to do it.

But a season, I'm sorry,series split over the weekend in New York
a wild one, really, Imean, especially yesterday. How often are
you gonna walk twelve batters in asingle freaking Major League baseball game and come
away with the win? That wasjust I mean, especially as second guesser's
delight. Yesterday as well, youhad Josei ra Keatie start the game.

Apparently. My understanding is the planpregame was to pitch jose raa Keati for
a few innings, then go tothe piggyback system with JP France and then
go for there. And I guessin an ideal world you'd only need a
couple of innings from your bullpen andgo out there and win the ball game
and not give up a ton ofruns. Well, yeah, shrows gave

up seven runs, five of thosecharged to jose er Keati, who I
really feel like there was times wherewe saw some flashes of him pitching pretty
well. He had a sinker hewas working in there. Change up I
thought looked good at some points,but overall, I mean, bottom line
was it wasn't a great start.And then Phil freaking Meton came in and,

man, Phil Maton, you're outof the circle of trust. I'm
so sorry. I really liked whathe brought. I like his demeanor out
there, the fact that he lookslike a robot and he stares straight ahead
at everybody and stuff like that.But when you come in, you hit
somebody. You get a strike outon Higashioka, that was nice. And
then the next two guys walk.Oh man, you had to go to

JP France and an unclean inning atthat point, which I'm sure Dusty Baker
wasn't planning on doing, but hadno choice at that point because Maton couldn't
clean up. Or Keatie's mess mademore of him as actually made things worse.
And then all praised to be toJP France. Seventy pitches for him,

Nearris did his thing, and thenBriana Braye was a little shaky. Certain
people on this show saying a Bray, you can't be trusted, even though
he didn't give up a run andhe was able to get to save his
fourth of the season, and itjust I mean a freaking while when Jake
Myers with two three run home runs. By the way, good weekend for
the Jake Myers fan Club. Hehad a run saving catch over the weekend

and hit a couple of home runsas well. I want to check his
ops I think is up to likeseven twenty ish, So yeah, seven
seventeen the on base plus slugging ofJake Myers. Who I mean when I
talked about being in the Jake Myersfan Club, It's not like I think
the guys at All Star or anything. I think he plays really good center
field and I'm hoping that he canops somewhere between like seven fifty and eight

hundred consistently. So if you havesomebody who's elite center field, which I
think Jake is. Doesn't have anelite arm, but elite a covering ground
out there, getting jumps on ballsand stuff like that, and then can
ops around seven fifty eight hundred,then you've got a really good ball player,
and we haven't seen it consistently withhim in the bat, and he
hasn't been hitting right handed pitching welleither, But still nice to see a

just awesome, really out of nowhere. Not something you're expecting the guy to
drive in six runs, but theAstros needed just about every single one of
them as they beat the Yankees nineto seven yesterday and now the day off
today, and some people calling ita must win series against the Baltimore Orioles

because the Rangers right now they're oneasy Street. They're playing the Oakland A's,
even though the Oakland A's did geta couple of wins over the weekend
against their San Francisco Giants, theirBay Area rivals, and the ass Shows
are having to take on the BaltimoreOrioles, who are one of the best
teams in the American League and rightnow leading the Tampa Bay Rays by a
not comfortable margin, but three gamesin the American League East, and the

Angels. All of the Angels,I think they have not been playing well.
Yeah, they're kind of falling bythe wayside. Yeah, good job
pushing all your chips in at thetrade deadline, Angels and trying to prove
that choheo Tani that you guys aregonna win. Since then, I think
they haven't won of games since abreak, right, So still some ground

to be gained by the Astros becausethe Marlins got swept by the Rangers.
So now two and a half backyour Astros against the Texas Rangers and then
I mean Mariners, Rangels are somewhatin the mix. Right now. It's
Rangers v Astros for the AOST crown, and the Astros lost some ground over
the weekend and you got the freakingRangers playing up against the terrible Oakland A's.

So Astros need to start winning somegames this week starting tomorrow, six

Orioles, and we'll see what theAstros get planned out as far as the

I'm gonna sleep on the Rangers,and then it was pictures of them sleeping

games in a row. They continueto hold a lead over the Astros.
It was nice to have them sweptwith that last weekend or whatever it was
against the Padres and a very streakyteam that they've been weird. It seems
like they went rip off a bunchof wins in a row and then lose
some. But right now they're playingwell and it just it's no, there's

no reason to predict that they're gonnago away. Although you did have Josh
Young, right, not Jace,I know they're others. One of the
youngs. Josh Young. Yeah,Josh Young fractured his thumb for the Rangers
and he's gonna be missing some time. He's been playing, praying pretty well
for them all season Long's got overtwenty home runs. A lot of injuries

though. It's yeah, they haveJonah him, it's who else is missing,
I don't know. But they justcontinue to win games and they're gonna
be Yeah. All of course toGraham as well. So, yeah,
they've had a lot of injuries.They continue to play well, and Astros
are gonna have to earn it ifthey want to win the American League West
this year. A lot of timesin years past, the teams just haven't
been good enough. The other alot of times they've been terrible. So

you're in a dog fight for thedivision. It happens. It's most divisions
in baseball right now. You gota team within three four games. It's
fun. You have August and Septemberbaseball, which the Astro seven had.
Yeah, well that's unfortunate. Yeah, because you've been resting everybody and kind
of being playing. It's almost likethe September has been their preseason the last
few years. But yeah, outsideof the Braves, though, everybody.

The Braves are running away with theNL East. I guess the you know
what, the Guardians are falling backnow, Guardians, you suck four and

I think each gets each batter getslike two challenges a game. It doesn't

holding up games. I gotta behonest, I haven't watched a whole lot
of Triple A baseball. I reallywant to get to out to a Skeeters
game. But once we get thecan we get the heat indecks below one

hundred and fifteen, like for oneday. I mean, seriously, I
would love to go out there becauseI do want to see the challenge.
I want to go to a gamethat's regular, and I want to go
to a game that's challenge system andsee how much it holds up. Because
apparently, within like half a second, the umpires are getting the call.
So maybe it's a little bit delayedand unnatural, but you have umpires sometimes

holding up like one or two secondsfor a dramatic call. You get very
late striking ball calls, So Idon't know how much time is that's adding
because you think about, okay,two hundred pitches well, actually the Astros
themselves had like two hundred pitches inthe last game, but normally two hundred
pitches. Okay, you're you're addinga half second. That's one hundred extra
seconds, and then we're talking aboutalmost two minutes, so that's not that

much you're adding to the game.I think you take some out where like
you know, Alex Bregman or whoeveris staring at the umpire and you get
jawing from the from the dugouts andstuff like that, So how much does
that balance out? But yeah,I'm in favor and I have been for
years and years and years for thefull automatic ball strike system, as long
as they can get it correct anduse the technology, which apparently they have

done. They've got the Hawkeye technology. They've got twelve cameras in these ballparks
and they can get every single angleand they calibrated for every batter. Aaron
Judge and jose L two Va aren'tgoing to have the same same strike zone.
So you're fine there, and theyshould just do it. They should.

You go to the full thing,you can get the call. I
think it's up to I think there'sa website on Twitter. It's called a
codified baseball or something like that.I think at the All Star break they
had said something like thirteen thousand callshad been missed, thirteen thousand, and
actually, umpires are getting better,and there was an article buy it was
Baseball America or somebody like, wemay never find out how good umpires can
get. And that's okay, becausewe can find out that we can get

one hundred percent of the calls right. And the umpires are getting a lot
better since they've had these the trackingdata. Every year they've gotten better and
better and better, but they haven'tgotten one hundred percent. And so I
think it was in like two eighteenthere was like thirty four thousand balls and
strikes missed. So this year it'sprobably gonna be I don't know, twenty
twenty five thousand. That's still wouldyou rather get zero calls wrong or twenty

five thousand calls wrong? I guessI'm crazy because I go for the zero.
All right, we're gonna take abreak here if you guys want to
get in. I didn't necessarily meanto talk about that, but talking about
the Astros, I didn't even mentionthe Angel Hernandez angle. But yeah,
Angel freaking Hernandez potentially could have castthe Astros to the game. Now,
of course, at the end ofthe day, I would say, Brian
and Bray, you execute your pitch, don't give up a home run to

John Carlos Stanton. But if hepokes one three and eighteen feet into right
field and the Astros lose when thegame should have been over, that would
have pissed me off. And ifit would have happened at the end of
the game as well in the eighth, as David mentioned, when Hector Narris
was pitching, he missed a bigcall there, and it's like, dude,

come on, man, you gottaget these calls right, especially in
these clutch situations, and then wewon't even have to talk about it won't
even be a talking point. ButRob Manford his old school. Baseball in
general is old school. So theystill want the quote human element, which
just translates to getting the calls wrong. They want the human element, which
means in perfection and whatever. Hopefullyeventually it goes to the right thing.
