Words on Now, kick back, pop a top and catch up with your
Houston team. Thank yam, thankThis is the Nightcap with Ross Urial.
Thank Cap Thanka six so one inthe PM here on Sports Talk seven ID.
(00:36):
Hello and welcome in to another editionof the night Cap program, Rossburial
with you alongside Tray Campbell. Tray, what the hell are you still doing
up here? Well, um,Noah had to take the day off for
some reason. Well he's trying toget a four day weekend in or something
like that, and so he did. So, m and you're here to
(00:58):
pick up the pieces. Yeah,I'm hoping to get some jack in the
bocus soon. Okay, there yougo. Trey is getting some jack in
a box. He is here.It is the Nightcap with You until seven
o'clock. You can find us onthe phone lines if you'd like, at
seven one three two one two fiveseven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven ninety. You can alsosend your tweets to at sports RV and
(01:22):
Well, Trey got suspended about seventeentimes from Twitter, so I don't think
he has any publicly known Twitter accounts. But I don't know if he's ever
going to sign up for one.I'm not sure what his plans are,
but you know what, if youhave a message for Trey, you can
just send it to me at SportsRV and I will pass that along this
way. A lot of different thingsgoing on in sports, So Trey will
(01:42):
bring us some of the top sportsnews headlines in a segment that we call
Headlines. It is aptly named that'llbe at six thirty. Anything you want
to get to on the phone lines, we can get to. It's it's
not really just and anything goes Fridayon the Nightcap. It's like anything goes
every day any time we're on theNightcap. Anything you want to get to,
we are here and readily available foryou. So locally, there are,
(02:07):
of course a number of different thingsgoing on in sports. You have
the Houston Texans in their OTAs.You have the Houston Rockets and rumors of
course swirling about what's going to happenat the top of the draft, and
various outlets saying the Rockets should tradethis or that with the number four pick.
(02:28):
Whether or not they try to tradeup to number two or number three,
that remains to be seen. Ihad a gut feeling I think it
was earlier this week where I saidit feels like they are going to try
to trade up and maybe get oneof those top two guys. But now,
if you're looking around the draft,Nick Twitter or whatever you want to
call it, Victor Wimban, Ya'mof course the far and away number one.
(02:50):
But I think I saw somebody withAmon Thompson as their number two prospect
on the board. So is therea big four now with the Rockets getting
one of those? The previous thinkingwas it'll be Victor Wimman yamat one,
and then in whatever order, BrandonMiller and then Scoot Henderson two and three,
and then the Rockets will be sittingthere left to pick up the pieces.
I guess we'll see when the drafthappens in about a month in I
(03:15):
think it's about a month. Iguess I should know that. But yeah,
June twenty second, as I lookit up, May twenty six,
today twenty second the NBA draft wherethe Rockets are picking number four, and
we'll see what they end up there. If they make any moves or anything
like that, then of course yourastros continue to be in action. Well,
they weren't in action yesterday and thisis their last Thursday off for quite
(03:38):
some time. One of the blessingsof the early going of the season is
they were able to get it likeit feels like they were just on a
five day a week schedule. Ofcourse, when the season started, they
were supposed to have a game onThursday in Minnesota, but as they were
pretty well prepared for, there wassome bad weather in Minnesota and it blew
over and they ended up playing thethree games set there three days in a
row, with the scheduled off dayon Friday. But since then, it
(04:00):
just feels like like every Thursday they'vebeen off of the season, and that
is going to stop for the nextfew weeks. I think I don't know
the exact number of days in arow they're playing, it's something like seventeen
or somewhere in that neighborhood. Andwe're gonna see what's gonna happen with the
Astros starting tonight, eight forty firstpitch right here on Sports Talk seven eighty.
I believe a seven o'clock trey oris it a seven thirty Astros on
(04:27):
deck? I'm not totally sure.I think maybe seven thirty Astros on deck
here is it'll get you ready forthe Oakland A's as the Houston Astros are
on the road for a three gameset. There, a couple of afternoon
games on Saturday and Sunday, andthen they come home for the Memorial Day
game against the Minnesota Twins, andthen a couple more after that with the
regular seventeen ten pm home starts. And I was on this radio station that
(04:55):
sometimes has me on in Kansas City. I think it's called The Drive with
Sore and pet Trow, and theyhave me on every now and then and
just say what's going on in Houstonsports? And we're talking. One of
the questions they asked was what's goingon with the Astros? Because they had
this long winning streak, are theyready to go ahead and seize control of
the American League West? And Icouldn't say. I was to take it
(05:18):
aback by the question, but ifit's funny, because it's good to go
on other stations or talk to otherpeople from other markets because you get a
more of a national perspective on what'sgoing on in here. And I'm like,
yeah, I guess it looked likethat when they were within a game
and then they lost two straight andthe Texas Rangers came back. But maybe
(05:38):
this is just us being spoiled.Okay, maybe a lot of this is
just us being spoiled here in Houston, Texas. But I feel like you
would almost think the way that wetalk about the Astros that they were like
five games below five hundred, becauseit's been a lot of handwringing, a
lot of worrying, and a lotof talk. Of of course, Forrest
Whitley had shoulder discomfort earlier. Thatnews came out earlier today, right,
(06:00):
Trey, I think with the shoulderdiscomfort or was that the day's all run
together? Yeah, that was earliertoday. I think today, because he
went out yesterday. Okay, yeah, yesterday with the shoulder discomfort, and
now the news coming out that wedon't know. I think he left to
start yesterday. Anyways, that's happening. Of course, we know what's happening
with Michael Brantley. Is he evergonna put on an Astro's uniform again?
(06:25):
Seems like I mean, I'm hoping, yes. He did go through We
have to remember he did go througha rehab start or a bunch of rehabs,
rehab stint, and was playing beforehis setback, but we haven't heard
anything, and I feel like, just in general with the Astros, no
news is bad news. And itseems like, of course we know that
(06:46):
they keep everything close to the vestwhen it comes to the injuries and all
that type of stuff, But ifyou don't hear anything, and you don't
hear any timeline, or you say, okay, well, actually he's starting
up a rehab stint again and nextweek, or actually he's doing this or
that, because that's what happened.Remember when Michael Brantley got hurt the first
time, they kept it all inhouse and we didn't hear anything about Michael
Brandley And is he swinging a bat? Is he looking at a bat?
(07:09):
Is he dreaming about bats? What'sgoing on with Michael Brantley? And it
was like, wow, well noupdate, no update, no update,
and then oh, by the way, he's out for the year. So
I'm hoping it's not something like that. But it just feels like, and
maybe this is just me being pessimistic. If you don't hear anything, bad
stuff happens for the Houston Astros. And then of course we know with the
(07:30):
lord at Lance mccolors Junior al Twovecame back and then he leaves because he's
dehydrated. Whatever they want to runwith. Did he have the bubble guts?
I don't know. The Astros arekeeping that one close to the vest
or close to the toilet, Iguess, so we don't know what's going
on with him. I imagine he'llwell, there's the lineup out today.
Yet it's gotta be right. Ididn't even look. I'm gonna imagine that
(07:53):
jose L two is at second baseand at the top of your Houston Astros
lineup. Yea, yea thirty minutesand I think I see thirty minutes ago.
Yeah, Chandler Rome was putting out. Okay, Yes, Josel Twove
is leading off. That's some goodnews there. How about this in the
two spot, Mauricio Dubon at shortstop. That's one way to get him in
(08:15):
the lineup. Jeremy Painey I thinkhasn't had a day off the entire season.
And yeah, he's young and hecan go through the grind of one
hundred and sixty two games and allthat type of stuff. But with the
day off yesterday, get him aday off today. I'm down with that,
especially since he's been striking out awhole lot lately, and he did
see he has shown some pop.He does have six home runs, but
hasn't been producing much the plate.Jordan Alvarez the DH. I guess we
(08:39):
might as well go through the wholelineup since we're here. Alex Bregman at
third base, bats fourth, KyleTucker bat's fifth, Jose A. Bray
you, I would say, themost talked about Houston Astro so far this
season. He's at first base inthe lineup, batting sixth, Cory Jokes
and left, Jake Myers in center, and then Martin Maldonado rounding out the
(09:03):
starting lineup for Houston Astros. Heya good stuff for Martine Maldonado. Though
he's hitting two sixteen right now,he's been like on one of the best
tears that he's been on, likein the last couple of years, or
really towards the end. I thinklast year was at August when he was
hitting like one thirty something and thenhe just caught fire and got up to
one eighty, which is just,I mean, not good for anybody else,
(09:26):
but pretty darn good for Martine.Maldonado considers considering he hitting one seventies
I think the year before that, but he is having like an offensive renaissance
as of late, as he's hittingtwo sixteen. And I never thought I'd
look at a lineup car and belike, man, that guy's hitting two
sixteen. He has caught fire.Well, that guy is Martin Maldonado right
now, who has more home runsin Jose Abreu, who has a higher
(09:50):
OPS than Jose Abreu, and theirbatting average is very close, which is
not what you wanted to hear withthe Abreu signing of course in the off
season. So yeah, there's beena lot of stuff going on the Ashrows.
It's kind of been a every year. Of course, it's different and
the story is different and things happenand play out differently, but it just
feels like it's been a chaotic startfor the Strows with that big winning streak
(10:13):
that they had and then all thesesetbacks and all these injuries, and we
know what they've had with the pitching, and you knew you were going to
be in theory at a pitching deficitof where you were last year because of
the law Suggin Verlander, but they'reright where they're where they were last year
as far as Team Era A numberone and all of baseball, and then
this year number one and all ofbaseball. So what does that tell you?
(10:39):
That tell you the bat? Thebat's got to start waking up.
Bregman has been inconsistent and we're notgood. Same thing for Jeremy Painia all
praised be the yord On Alvarez.I shudder to think where the Houston Astros
would be without him in their lineup throughout the season. And I think
it's safe to say about the samefor Kyle Tucker, although he hasn't been
as great or as consistent, butstill been pretty darn good. But thank
(11:05):
goodness you got one of the besthitters on the entire planet in Jordan Alvarez,
because where would this Astros team be? And think of, like how
many times some home run or threerun double or whatever that he's hit has
been the difference in the game. He's just been worth his weight in gold.
Has Jordan Alvarez to the Astro's successthis season as their twenty eight and
(11:26):
twenty one and now still three gamesback of the Texas Rangers. So just
interesting that. I mean, itfeels like the way we're all talking about
it and complaining about all the injuriesand stuff like they're way out of it,
but no, there're seven games abovefive hundred, three games back of
the West, not a super greatspot. But the Texas Rangers I think
eventually will come down somewhat, althoughwe keep waiting and waiting and waiting for
(11:50):
it. And now, I meanthey have the second best run differential in
baseball, only two runs behind theTampa Bay Rays, who of course started
off the season scorching hot and cameback to earth somewhat, but still leaders
over there in the American League East. So we can talk some strows.
How are we feeling about Mariso Dubonand the number two spot, that's a
good way to get him in thelineup since jose L Twova has come back,
(12:13):
and other things go on of coursewith them mentioned the stuff with the
NBA and the and the Rockets andJames Harden and the draft, and of
course you're Houston Texans and OTAs andwhat is going to happen with the starting
quarterback position as well? I thinkpretty safe to say it's going to be
c. J. Stroud, butI guess we'll see as we go along.
(12:33):
All right, break here on theNightcap Program. My name is ros
Vie Real and Trey Campbell is hereas well. And if you want to
get in seven one two one twofive seven ninety is the phone number seven
one three two one two five sevenninety. Back in the second after this
break. I want to talk toyou. I want to talk to you.
(12:58):
Just definitely thought this was a commercial. Hi, welcome back. It
was like, all right, whatchurch we're going to this weekend? Welcome
back to the Nightcap here on SportsTalk seven ninety. This is a great
song. Okay, Trey, it'sthe space Jam song. Okay, Trey,
(13:20):
it's a new Space Jam. Okay, Trey, take your word for
it. Oh man, love mesome auto tune. That's why all the
great all the great songs have autotune on them. That's a little baby.
That's James Harden's queen. Oh hey, come on, man, what
are you saying? Is what?Never mind? That was The thoughts and
(13:43):
opinions of Trey Campbell do not reflectthose of Sports Talk to seven ninety,
the Nightcap Program, or iHeartMedia Large. All right, welcome back here to
the Nightcap program. Rosby were outwith you. That is Trey Campbell.
It wasn't me Ross, So youcan find me on Twitter at sports RV.
Fund lines are open and available foryou. Seven one three two one
two five seven ninety. What didyou think of the new Space Jam movie?
(14:05):
Trey? I watched about the firstopening title sequence and I was like,
wait a minute, this is stupid, and I turned it off.
Oh you didn't even get past that. I would say the first fifteen minutes
or brutal. It's a lot ofLebron slurping and acting like he's the greatest
thing to grace the Earth in thehistory of time. But after that it
(14:26):
was like mindless, okay, childishfun. So overall the beginning is like
a three out of ten, maybea two, and then the middle and
the end is maybe like a sixout of ten. What is that average
out too? I guess okay, six p six two. Okay, it's
like a four point six sixty sevenis what I'm gonna give it out of
ten? All right, Paul inmy land holding along? It is here
in the nightcap. What's up,Paul Man? I wish I could do
(14:50):
math like you. It is prettygood. I probably screwed it up somehow.
Hey, I know, I gota legitimate question for you. I've
been hearing around town everybody's getting upin arms and been out of shaving belt.
C J. Stroud taking second teamrips. You heard that. I'm
not up in arms, but areyou I'm not either, No, not
at all. Because if I'm thinkingback a couple of years back too,
(15:13):
what was it twenty seventeen, hTom Savage was going into the season and
taking the starting rips and DeShawn andWatson was taking second team rips. Yeah,
but if you were called pretty good, Well, Tom Savage started the
first game, and I think BillO'Brien was like this from my quarterback,
and I think it wasn't it theat halftime of the very first game he
got at halftime, and DeShawn Watsonwent out there after halftime and he did
(15:37):
pretty dang good un till he messedhis leg up. Yeah, so well,
I don't see the big deal.I don't see the big deal either,
Paul. Thanks for calling, andthank you for getting in. Yeah,
it doesn't matter to me. Look, if Davis Mills is getting first
team reps, I mean he iswealth not the most established quarterback, but
maybe he will be the starting quarterbackfor the Houston Texans Week one. I
(16:00):
don't think so, but we'll see. We had Troy Aikman on earlier today
on The Matt Tommy's Show, andthat was actually a question I asked him
about throwing guys into the fire, and basically it's everyone is an individual case.
We can point to guys like PatMahomes who sat for a little bit
and then finally got in there andflourished, or we can point to guys
(16:21):
who were thrown directly into the fireand they're looking pretty good now, like
a Trevor Lawrence. Last year hehad twelve touchdown seventeen picks. Everybody's talking
about how he's a bust. Andif you remember the Davis Mills truthers,
like, oh, look at hisstats compared to Davis Mills, And why
is everybody talking about Davis Mills upbeing the quarterback of the future, but
you're talking about with Trevor Lawrence.Well, because Trevor Lawrence has a much
(16:41):
higher pedigree than Davis Mills did,and Davis Mills is terrible in his two
starts as an NFL starter. Attwo seasons as an NFL starter anyways,
So yeah, there's more in oneway to skin that cat. I'm a
big fan of, especially when youtake somebody number two overall getting them into
the fires or swim. And alsoin a situation here with the Texans,
(17:03):
I think the offensive line is probablyone of their strongest units. You're pretty
set at tackle, and then ofcourse you're hoping that Kenyan Green can can
make a leap because he wasn't verygood last year, but as a first
year starter, you're hoping he learneda lot from his rookie year and then
(17:25):
he can get better. And then, of course they just drafted a couple
of centers and then they signed ShackMason. So I'm liking the offensive line.
You also have with Damian Pierce andDavid Montgomery. You're having a running
back corps that you feel I cancarry some of the load and then set
things up there for CJ. Strout. If they had like one of the
(17:48):
worst offensive lines in football, Iwould be maybe more wary. But how
about Joe Burrow the Bengals, who'sthrown into the fire with one of the
worst offensive lines in football, Andwell, of course he did tear his
ac well at one point, buthe's looking pretty good, and it morphed
him into like one of the bestpre snap defensive readers in football. He's
out there operating like Peyton Manning wherehe's like, I know I'm gonna get
(18:11):
like two seconds to throw, soi gotta know where everybody's gonna be.
And he learned through that so itmade him better. So that that's my
opinion. Unless you're taking someone alittle bit later in the maybe probably back
half of the first round or secondround and beyond, yeah, you probably
want somebody to learn on the fly. But the Texans have nothing to lose.
(18:34):
I feel like it should be cJ. Stroud Week one see two
one, two five seven ninety thephone number John on the northwest side.
What's up, hey, guys,Hey, I was wondering if you've heard
anything I've been hearing about the topastro's picture prospect. Now, this Spencer
Argetti who's playing for the Double ACorpus Christy Hooks this season. Man,
he's having a phenomenal may supposedly onthe mound this month alone, he amassed
(19:00):
like I think it's point five threee ra a nineteen strikeout, six walks
over three appearances. Seventeen innings andso overall this season with the hooks.
I mean, you know, he'scurrently ranked Houston's top you know, number
nine in Houston's top thirty prospects,I think. But he has a four
two record and he's he's looking reallygood. So I didn't know if you've
(19:22):
heard anything about him, But thequestion is will he uh be brought up
too? I guess so. Imean, they've got a good potential talent
there. Yeah, it's funny, you know, John, the first person
I ever heard the name Spencer Arghetticome out of their mouth, it was
Lance mccollo's junior and I think wehad I think it was fan Fest when
(19:44):
we had him on in January ormaybe no, we didn't have him on
in spring training. So the firsttime I ever heard of Spencer Argetti,
He's like, look out for thisdude. This dude's stuff is nasty.
It's filthy. And he was like, he didn't even know all he had
done has got an eyes on him. He didn't know what he was thought
of as a prospect, where hewas on a list or anything like that.
(20:06):
He's like, watch out for thisdude. His stuff is nasty.
So that was the first time SpencerRighetty got on my radar um just pulling
up his numbers of the year.It doesn't look like they're spectacular. I'm
not sure where. I guess inDouble A only he's been pretty good because
I'm seeing him as having an ERAof four point six six on the season
(20:27):
with a record of four and two. So uh and not good whip numbers.
But I've heard his stuff is reallygood. Maybe he's got to work
on his control and then they'll gofrom there. Yeah, I think the
buzz is that you know what's goingon in May, though, I think
it's really you know, opened someeyes, you know, like point I
(20:47):
got you, I see what you'resaying. Now, thanks a lot,
John, appreciate you getting in.Yeah, his first handful of starts,
Yeah, okay, I got thegame log up now. So yeah,
his first few starts, his firstfour starts, he was terrible. ERA
of where's this number eleven? Eraof eleven in April. But yeah,
in May alone, he's got apoint four one ERA and that's four starts
(21:11):
strung together where he's only allowed oneearned run. So yeah, he's got
a good month of May. Atdouble A. He is twenty three years
old. I think the projections arefor him to come up maybe around next
year. But just from if LanceMuelors reports of Lance mcculler's junior are correct,
dude's got some nasty stuff. He'sjust got to work on, of
(21:36):
course, the control and putting onguys on base and stuff like that.
So look like first four starts ofhis were quite disastrous. Last four starts
pretty darn good. And maybe he'llcontinue that and earn himself a call up
to Triple A, and then Iwould imagine he wouldn't be up this year.
But who knows if Lance mcculler's juniorisn't continues to not be healthy,
(21:57):
jose Er Katya, who knows hecould have a set back. We've already
had setbacks from Lance of Colors, and we've already had setbacks from Michael Brantley
this year. And Forest Whittley isn'tlooking like he's ripe to come up.
Is he just got his suffered hislatest injury. Perhaps that would be a
direction they would go to. Butmy sources, and my source being Lance
(22:18):
of Colors Junior, are that Ratty'sgot Argetti, Spencer Argett, He's got
some pretty deep darn good stuff inthe ASTROS system. All Right, we're
gonna take a break here on theNightcap program. When we come back,
all the top sports news items ofthe day, well according to the mind
of Trey Campbell, so we'll seehow actually good these headlines are usually pretty
(22:40):
good, always a fun time, and that'll be next here on Sports Talk
seven eighty head Lines with Tray Campbell. Welcome back to the what is this
(23:03):
called the Nightcap program here on SportsTalk seven, Ade Rosbie, you're re
out with you alongside Trey Campbell, who's bringing us all the top sports news
headlines of the day and a segmentwe simply call headlines. Trey, Go
ahead, Hey, Ross, howyou doing great? Go ahead? It's
(23:26):
been a while since I've seen you. Hey, yeah, it's been at
least three hours. So first andforemost, the biggest headline in the world
of sports right now is that AllPro perennial All Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins
was released from the Arizona Cardinals. They don't use their post June first designation,
(23:48):
so they don't ye save the moneythat way. No, I think
they took a full twenty two milliondollar cap hit wait a minute. I
thought they saved money after June first? Is that not true? They didn't
use it, but they cut himtoday. Wow, are you sure it's
not designated? Yeah, they thinkso. So they could have saved money
by waiting five days and they didn't. Are you sure about that? Trey
(24:11):
and feels a little misinformation? Hehold on, but no, he got
cut today. The point is DeAndreHopkins got cut from the Arizona Cardinals.
Uh. Where do you think he'sgonna go next? Oh? Apparently they
couldn't use it. Yeah, Idon't think they could. They announced the
(24:32):
release because they did it before June. Second, they take a big dead
money cap that Yeah, that's whatI read. Okay, Oh, there
only you can only release two playersby June first, and designated them as
post June first, and they alreadyreleased Rodney Hudson and j J. Watt.
Huh, this is all very confusing. Didn't but it would be another
(24:53):
eleven million dollars in dead money tonext year's cap. Okay, this is
very confusing. I'm sorry, Trey. I didn't mean to get deep into
the cap all of GEZ. Yeah, that's okay, But what do you
think it's the night Capologists. Yes, that's exactly what we do here.
I'm sorry what I'm totally distracted. Now what are we talking about? So?
Where do you think DeAndre Hopkins will. I think he's gonna go to
a contender. I don't think he'sgonna come back to Houston like people are
(25:15):
saying, and Laramie Tunsel tweeted him, Titus Howard tweeted him, I mean,
Bill O'Brien is gone, you know, you know, he doesn't like
DeAndre Hopkins and he thinks that DavidJohnson trade was a good idea. Also,
so people saying, oh, Texanswon the trade, don't at me
like what, No, I don'tthink so. I don't think they won
the trade at all. You gotDavid Johnson's corpse and a second and a
(25:41):
swap of a fourth or something likethat. No terrible trade. Texans did
not win that trade. Even ifDeAndre Hopkins maybe perform up to what they
wanted over there, he still hada pretty good, solid, a couple
of solid couple of years. Ithink he's gonna go to a contender.
I don't know if it's gonna bethe Ravens or whoever else can take on
his salad l which probably isn't goingto be that high because I think he's
(26:02):
still making like twenty two million dollarsthis year. And I'm not sure if
he has an agent now because hedidn't before I think when he made his
own deal. But at the Bears, you think the Bears. I still
think DeAndre Hopkins has something left inthe tank. He had like seven yards
in three touchdowns last year. Ithink so too. I think he was
a bad quarterback play yeah, andhe would have been a lot better higher
numbers if he didn't have that peedsuspension. Yeah, so that's a big
(26:26):
deal. Hopefully DeAndre Hopkins finds ahome soon. You're familiar with Aaron Boone,
right, Yes, I am.He has been suspended tonight after being
ejected from his fourth game after arguingballs and strikes yesterday against the Orioles.
Geez, it's time? Is ittime for the Yankees to just get rid
(26:51):
of Aaron Boone? I think it'stime for the Yankee I think it's time
for automatic balls and strikes. That'swhat Aaron Boone's got to be championing the
cause at this point, right,Yeah, But I don't know. I
kind of like it when they goout there and yell at the umpires that
you do, okay, I mean, I guess what do you like about
it? I like when they yellat them and they turn their hat around
(27:14):
so they could yell at them somemore, and then they chest bomb.
Yeah, yeah, that's funny. And then somebody ends up spitting at somebody's
feet after they get tossed. That'swhat I think. That's what ye We
don't need all that, we don'tneed arguing balls and strikes. Just go
ahead and get the calls right, which I think they're doing on triple A.
I read a whole article from JeffPass and apparently they still get it
wrong a little bit because they canonly get it correct to within one tenth
(27:36):
of an inch. So sometimes whensomething is borderline, borderline, borderline,
borderline, within one tenth of aninch, they can miss the call.
But still it's gotta be better onaverage than what we got out there.
I mean, you're gonna tell me, would you rather have cbe Buckner out
there or a machine that gets itwithin one tenth of an inch? I'd
probably say the machine. I'm goingwith the machine. Personally, as well,
(27:56):
the integrity of the game? Allright, what else do you have?
Tray? Okay, so this one'sa little bit off the wall.
But you're familiar with Scottie Pippen, right, Yes, I am. You're
also familiar with Lebron James and MichaelJordan's yesel debate Scottie Pippen through his two
cents in today, can we go? Will be the greatest statistical guy to
(28:23):
ever play the game of basketball? And there's no comparison to him. No,
can you turn that out? Sodoes that make him the greatest player
to ever play the game? Ilead it out for debating because I don't
believe that they's a great player, because our game is a team game and
one player can't do it. LikeI seen Michael Jordan played before I came
(28:45):
to play with the balls, youguys seen him play. He's a horrible
player. He was horrible to playwith. He was all one on one,
He's shooting bad shot. And allof a sudden we become a team
and we stall winning. Everybody forgotwho e Wolves? Everybody forgot who who
(29:07):
was Michael Jordan? What? That'swhat Scottie Pippen says, Nobody ever forgot
who Michael Jordan was Jordan's the greatestbasketball player of all time? Well,
in some people's opinion depends on howyou want, he's thet See it's a
different argument for me, man, this argument, I don't want to get
into it. To take this argumentbehind the woodshed and put it down age
(29:33):
thirty eight season, Michael Jordan twentythree points per game? What did what
did Lebron have? He had?Darn year thirty right, twenty seven,
twenty eight something like that. Anyways, the greatest, the greatest individual winner,
I guess was probably well, Isee, this is the thing.
(29:56):
If you want to go with rings, and it's got to be Bill Russell,
right, he's got eleven of them. If you want to go with
highest peak, I think it's MichaelJordan. If you want to go with
best career, I think it's KareemAbdul Jabbar or Lebron James to me,
because they got after for twenty years. So it's a bunch of different arguments.
(30:22):
The highest the basketball player that flewclosest to the sun, the highest
peak it possible of the pinnacle ofbasketballing is Michael Jordan's. I think,
Yeah, what's up with Scottie Pippenas far as he accolades and careers,
isn't he old man? Isn't hisdaughter dating? I mean, isn't Michael
Jordan's son dating Larsa Pippen or somethinglike that. Yeah, that's Scottie Pippen's
(30:44):
ex wife. Yeah for everyone thatdoesn't know, Yeah, I don't know
if that's Scottie Pippen's ex wife. She um, she gets around apparently,
Well good for her. Yeah, this is the sex positive stage exactly ross.
But I'm not here to judge anybody. It seems like you're here judge,
but yeah, Pippen is very clearlysalty. You can find quotes about
(31:07):
Scottie Pippen talking about Michael Jordan isthe greatest of all time, and you
can find quotes about him talking aboutLebron James or others or maybe not others,
but other people being better. Andit just feels like Scottie Pippen,
whatever mood he's in that day,and seems like he was in a bad
mood this day, because yes,and that's just completely off base almost everything
the argument that he was making theresaying that though that Michael Jordan came in
(31:29):
and was missing a bunch of shots, that's just simply not accurate. Yeah,
I don't I think he's a drunk. Well, okay, once again,
the thoughts and views of Trey Campbelldo not represent those of Sports Talk
seven ninety. Hey, iHeartMedia atlarge. Um. I don't know if
he's drunk or a hebe rated orupset or in a bad mood, or
maybe she stubbed his toe and he'snot feeling great. I don't know,
(31:52):
But to say that that Michael Jordancame in and was missing a bunch of
shots and he was a terrible player, I mean, he's like second season
of the or maybe it was.Wasn't he averaging like thirty five a game
within a couple of years of beingin the league. Yeah, Eddie still
played eighty two games even when hewas old. All right, let's see,
(32:13):
all right, nineteen eighty seven,Michael Jordan's third year, he averaged
thirty seven point one points per game, the first year of ten scoring championships,
which is far away the record.Who's next? Maybe Wilt Chamberlain,
I don't know. I'd have tolook. It's probably it's probably Michael with
(32:36):
ten, and I think it mightbe wilt and then you're getting into like
Katie and others territory. So tocome in and say that and then say
to everybody forgot about him? Thehell's even talking about but he forgot about
Michel No, literally, not oneperson. I hate to tell you this,
Scottie Pippen, but nobody forgot aboutMichael Jordan. Yeah, all right,
Well, on that note, weare going to end it here.
(32:58):
Well, okay, we're not gonnaended, We're just gonna end the segment.
Those are some of the headlines fromour good friend Trey Campbell. Well
you want to wait in at anyof that, we can talk about it.
Phone lines open for you. Wecan still talk to some strows and
other stuff at seven one three twoone two five seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven ninety Backin a second for the final segment of
the night Cap. Welcome to wait, incredible, Welcome back to the Nightcap.
(33:37):
Speaking of Michael Jordan, I justsaw this story. This is pretty
funny. Not funny, but enteringsinteresting, I guess. Carl Alone recently
auctioned off twenty four pieces of memorabiliafrom the nineteen ninety two Summer Olympics.
Dream Team including game used jersey sneakersfrom all twelve members, So twenty four
(34:00):
pieces did he get, like ajersey and a pair of sneaks from every
single player on the team, andthen now he's auctioned them off. It
netted him five million dollars. Thehighest dollar item the Michael Jordan number.
Do you remember what number he woreand Dream Team? I'm gonna say fifteen
(34:24):
nine nine number nine white jersey wornduring the dismantling of Lithuania sold for three
million dollars. Well, it couldn'thave happened to a nicer guy. Yeah,
Karl Malone netted five million dollars.Three million of it came from somebody
betting on I mean a betting biddingon a game. Warn Michael Jordan.
(34:46):
Item shouldn't car shouldn't Carl Malone haveto ship Michael Jordan at least a mill?
Like? How much of that isMichael Jordan entitled two? If he
made? If he made five milliondollars off of all of his Dream Team
teammates, do you think how muchdid Christian Lightner's jersey go for? None
of them were game warm. Didhe even play a minute in that team?
(35:06):
Maybe like towards the end of somegame they were beating, when they're
beating Angola by like sixty seven, did he get in there? Yeah?
You might could find his game oneJersey. Yeahs are they They're like they're
up seventy six on Turks and Kaikos, and then Christian Lightner checks into the
game, like, I don't knowwhat's happening over there. In nineteen ninety
two, why did they put himon that team? They wanted to have
(35:29):
one token college player because every otherprevious year, of course, they use
college players, so they wanted tohave like one college guy as in homage
to the previous college teams. Iguess didn't they do that with Anthony Davis
too? Yeah? I think you'reright. Maybe. I don't know if
they did it every year. Idon't know if they do it now or
(35:50):
exactly what the deal is. Butyeah, it's so crazy. Christian Lightner
basketball Hall of Famer just because hewas on that dream team. Wait,
Christian Lightners in the Basketball Hall ofFame? Yeah? By that because they
elected the whole team on into theOh okay, but he's not an individually,
right, I don't think so?Okay, maybe the college bass you
(36:13):
started to freak me out. I'mlike, what, Well, the basketball
Hall of Fame is their entire career. It counts for European and international college
and then pro, which is justit's the weakest hall of fame out there
right now. Right by that logic, Stefan Marbury is a basketball Hall of
Fame. He should be in therebecause he's the greatest ye basketball. He's
(36:37):
the greatest Beijing Duck to ever play. And Jimmer for Debt is where that's
true towards a basketball Hall of Fame. I mean, didn't you have Michael
Beasley dropping like seventy points in agame and China or something like that.
You think, well, Dwight Howard'sgonna get it anyways, I'd say,
rightfully. So, even to me, he's kind of a borderline case because
I in the in Ross's world ofHall of Fame's trade, you have to
(37:00):
be like an unquestionably all time greatto get in. And even though Dwight
Howard was a very dominant force ledthe two thousand and nine Orlando Magic to
the finals where they lost to theKobe led Lakers, and he was dominant
for a stretch and won back toback to back Defensive Players of the Year.
In my world, he's a borderlinecase. In the real world,
(37:22):
he's going to get into the BasketballHall of Fame, no question. And
now he's dominating in Taiwan. Yeah, that's he's like Getty's scoring like thirty
nine points per game. M tradedid you look that up? Yeah,
so you know he's yeah, youknow, he's getting thirty nine points per
game. Uh, shout out toDwight Howard. What team is he playing
(37:45):
for? What are they called?I'm not sure. I think some company.
Oh yeah, I like that aboutNo, I don't like it.
Actually, it's just interesting that tod A lot of the teams in Asia
are named after companies, like theyou Coult Swallows in the Japanese Baseball League.
You're cool, just like a drink. Right, Yeah, well,
(38:07):
here's the name the taiwan the Taoone Leopards. He's average actually averaging twenty
five point six points per game.I think he had thirty nine points.
Okay, so well, you knowwhat. And that is today's taiwan Ee
Basketball Association update. Courtesy of TreyCampbell. Thank you. He was the
(38:27):
MVP of the Taiwan All Star Game. M He was, Yeah, what
do you drop fifty on him?I think so. Yeah, he's averaging
six assists. You know, it'dbe cool if we could get like prime
Michael Jordan or prime Lebron James, prime Kevin Durant. What would prime Kevin
Durant average in the Chinese Basketball Association, Like fifty a game? Probably close
(38:52):
to that. Yeah, which remindsyou, by the way, somebody's saying
that Michael Jordan would average fifty agame in today's NBA, that that is
just a simple not true. Butanyways, you weren't able to double team
back in the day those days, right, they had the illegal defense that
they would call. But anyways,um, yeah, Michael Jordan would be
just fine in today's NBA and probablybe ten times scoring champion again, but
(39:15):
fifty a game, let's not beridiculous. Last person to do that,
of course, was Will Chamberlain. But AnyWho, I guess we started with
the story about Karl Malone. Heneeds to break off some of that for
Michael Jordan. If he netted fivemillion dollars, and I don't know if
he's gonna need of money or whatever. I mean, he made a lot
throughout his career. But he figured, you know what, can't take it
(39:36):
with me, might as well sellit off. And three million and that
five million was a Michael Jordan jerseyhe needs, he needs to drop off
a bag full of cash. Theymake him a little tip off of that
hot to make him like a commercial. You know, if you've been infected
by mesophilioma, you're entitled to compensation. They ought to make one for Michael
Jordan. Okay, if Karl Malonehas sold your quit your jerseys, you
(40:00):
know you're in. I don't know. Oh yeah, you gotta wrap this
up, Tray, we gotta go, We gotta go, dumb, I
regret all right. On that note, that's the end of the show.
