With yesterday officially kicking off the 2025 NFL Draft, many fans across the league are in high praises as their favorite teams begin selecting players they trust and believe can change their franchise in the future years to come. With the Texans holding the 25th pick in the First Round and later trading their pick to the Giants, has left lots of fans here in the city a bit confused as to why. Aaron Wilson joins Sean and Dan with a small proposal as to what the Texans' may be thinking moving and trading picks around this years draft, as he's for certain there is a method to what looks to be total madness later to be revealed possibly today.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Nine o'clock hour upon us here on the Sean Salisbury Show,
and as promised, let's head out to the phone lines
talk with our sports talk seven to ninety NFL Insider.
He also does work with KPRC Channel two. He is
Aaron Wilson and Aaron last night's I mean, the Texans
deciding to trade out of the first round. I mean,

(00:20):
was it necessarily something that surprised you or did you
catch wind of it that it might be head in
that direction?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Right? I did report in the days hotting up, actually
two days before and then again hours before the draft,
that they were exploring trade back scenarios. They were prepared
for the possibility that Kelvin Banks Junior was going to
go in the top ten. And a couple hours before
the draft, I talked with David Mullageta, the agent for
Kelvin Banks, also CJ. Stroud, and he said he thought

(00:50):
that the feeling for him was seven and the floor
was around twelve to thirteen. So he fell right there
in the middle. And you know, that's his job, because
he's going to talk to the general managers and you know, ask,
you know, hey, would you like my guy? That kind
of stuff, and then from there gleaned a little bit
of information, just enough to be dangerous. But yeah, I

(01:10):
was not shocked by the trade back. I think you
could kind of hear in Nick's boys a little bit
of mild frustration. Hey, he made earnest, good faith efforts
to trade up. People didn't want to trade. And it's
very true, like any business deal, you have to have
two to tango. And if they don't want to do
a deal and they prefer to pick, well, I mean

(01:31):
that's their right. They don't have to do a deal
with you. It has to be very attractive to them.
And many cases you have to overpay. Just imagine what
he would have had to give up to go to
not just ninth, but twelve for let's say Tyler Booker,
because you know that was another spot, but the Cowboys
picked Booker. He would have been a great Texan. But
you can't get everyone when you're picking that late. This

(01:53):
is part of the really the taste price of success
when you or in the playoffs, you're just you're drafting
lower and it's more of a crapshoot on what you're
going to get. And that's why the NFL intended this
way for the parody Aaron.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Did they consider trading up for somebody other than a
big fella? I mean, were they in line for a
receiver or somebody or even a tight end. Was there
any talk of because Nick had mentioned four or five
trade scenarios that they were kind of dabbling in, was
there anybody maybe a surprising one or were they looking
at a perimeter player if they could have moved up

(02:30):
and the price.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Would have been right. Yeah, they didn't really get to
involved in those things in terms of like a Matthew
Golden or looking at I'm not gonna googa. They could
have gotten those players. There's ways they could have done it,
and they didn't. They were starting their trade stuff as
far as moving back when it was getting into the team.
So that's right around with these receivers are going off

(02:54):
the board. Yep, there's comparable receivers that are still available.
It's just not quite the same sizzle. But you know,
there's like Luther Burden and guys like that. There's a
lot of offensive linemen. They're just not quite where those
other guys are. And I think ultimately, you know, one
pick before them that was really instructive, the Donovan Jackson

(03:15):
I had been with Donovan before the draft and a
workout here in Houston. He's episcopal guy, and he thought
the Vikings and the Texans likes him the most. And
he had a great visit with the Texans on the
final day you can host players, and he had a
good feeling about them, and he was hoping to play
for his hometown team. But at twenty fourth you just saw,
like you know, that that was what de vices usually wanted.

(03:36):
They were pretty interested in Jackson. I don't know that
they've missed out on like a great player. I think
he's a very good player, and usually it takes great
to prompt yourself to move. And this is a depth
draft and they've got so much draft capital today. If
they pick well today, they're going to set themselves up
with some future starters, I believe, with the two second

(03:58):
rounders and the three thirds. But yeah, it's a little
boring obviously, ain't that Colimactic did not have any player.
I went to the draft party out there with the
mcmayor's over at George Bound, Randy Michael over Dudson Television. Yeah,
the fans are all excited. They wanted it, and it
didn't happen. But that's part of being at twenty fifth.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
Yeah, and you know what, aaron I I liked what
Nick did. I do accumulate these and they didn't accumulate
him to get guys they didn't like or weren't in
love with. In these rounds, they got guys that they
not only assets to move if they have to, but
guys that they expect to play. As you mentioned second rounders,
they expect them to be starters at some point and
and and for that case, hell, they may end up

(04:39):
being ten year starters like they expect out of a
first rounder. So with that in the second round for
the second picks coming quickly. Still offensive line, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
I would go offensive line. And there's an offensive line
from the University of Minnesota, same as armante Urseri. He
did visit here in about nine other clubs. He was
the big ten offensive line in the But he's a
pure tackle, and that's a consideration because they would ideally
like to have someone who can play guard. He's just
so tall, be very difficult for him to play guard.
He's massive, He's almost three forty, a big, strong guy.

(05:12):
He did great against ab Duel Carter, and that's important
you know, how do you block the best line you know,
the best pass rushers. Another one is Anthony Belton from
North Carolina State, and he was a good player at
the Senior Bowl and he could kick inside. He's got
good knee men, he's got good mobility. He's not the
I guess the it's not a bodybuilding contest. He's a

(05:34):
big belly type of lineman. But he can move and
he's got a nasty streak. I watched a lot of
tape of him. He finishes. So there's some guys that
think about and then you get your pick of the
running backs. Both of the buck guy running Max Traveon
Henderson and Quinchawn Judkins. They did a zoom with Henderson,
they did a visit official with Judkins, and they're good players.

(05:56):
I feel like a wide receiver, you gotta be look
careful about Luther Burden. There's some talk of Viva stuff
with him and a little bit of entitlement and his
production was down, so he might be one of those guys.
Maybe you avoid him. You know, you don't want to
have like a you know, chemistry situation, because whoever they
bring in as a receiver, you're not the number one,
it's Nico Collins and it's Christian Kirk, so you got

(06:17):
to be a complimentary guy. I like Kyle Williams from
Washington State. I think he could really help them. He
also visited. They've had a high degree of interest in
him throughout the draft process. And those are some guys
that I think makes sense for the Texans that they've
had some interest in.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
Do the Texans feel like they're pretty loaded on defense,
that there's not a big defensive priority anywhere in this
draft for them?

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Right? There's some value players, but they don't have to
get them, like Mike Green, who's got some off field issues,
but he's very talented. From Marshall, you know, I think
that off ball lineback from UCLA would be a good
text in Carson's question. There are swarm kind of mentality,
but you don't need them. I think he's got get

(07:00):
some of the needs. I know they talk about best
player available. I understand that, and you have to say that,
but you tilt everything for best available player at your
greatest need, and you have to weigh, you know, is
there a better player later? But to me, yeah, I
mean they understand the value. I just look at it
like are there potential guys that running back or tight

(07:22):
end to make you not want to go defense? And
sure there's Will Johnson's here, but how many corners are
you gonna have? You've got the two studs already and
Derrek Stingins and your core last I think at some
point you have to look at your depth chart. Depth
turn to me, says Union off of aliment. That perhaps
helps now, and he helps even more in the future,

(07:43):
some of them with some upside and a wide receiver
that compliments those guys. I think tight end, there are
a bunch of good tight ends like Mason Taylor, Form Millisu,
he would help. I think at some point you're probably
looking at is this Dalton Souls if he doesn't play better,
is this is last year here? I think that that
could happen if he if he repeats last season, that

(08:05):
third year of the contract's not gonna not going to
fulfill that one in my opinion. But yeah, they've got
to I think get better at tight end. They didn't
get faster too. They need some speed and I think
they could. He's a speed wide receiver and running back
Jayden Blue with someone he's you know, from what it's
worth they told him, or he told me what they

(08:27):
said to him, that they're looking for a speedback to
go with Joe Mixon. He's a four to two five
unofficial official four three eight. He's very fast. He's from
Kline Kaye's local guy did do the visit here, maybe
someone like that, But I don't think you have to
do that in round tea. You can get in round three.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
Yeah, and you know Aaron by the way, Aaron Wilson,
our own Sports Talk seven to ninety insider kPr C too.
And I mean you touched on a little bit with
some of those skill position guys. This is where I'm
going with it, Damian Pierce. I mean, is that kind
of sick the end of him being with the Texans,
with them going out getting Braxon Barrios and maybe even
the tire kicking on some of the guys that you
just mentioned.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
I would say, yeah, I mean you have to think
about is he going to have a big role or
are they going to move on if they draft one
of those guys. I think he would still be on
the team, but his role could go down. He's a
good kickoff returner, but there are a lot of guys
that can return kicks like Burrios, Electremon Smith, like potentially

(09:30):
some of these running backs and receivers were talking about.
But when I look at you know, Damien, you know
he doesn't have a big role anyway. I mean, Joe
Mixon is a workhorse. There's a couple of times where
like the Patriots game, he had the big run. They
still like him. It's not like he's been disappointing in
the role. I thought he did enough to earn his

(09:53):
keep for sure. Last season it was it was solid.
But they just don't want to play another back that much.
And I think it, Yeah, they're they're looking for the
future at some point. I think probably the best thing
for Damian it would be, you know, when it gets
time to for a free agency to you know, look
for a new situation. But that's not like a knock

(10:13):
on him. He's done fine. It's just don't make some
of a different level.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
Yeah, no doubt about it. Great stuff. Aaron, Appreciate your
time and now you'll be back at it again to night.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
Appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
Appreciate you guys talk all.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
I appreciate Aaron Wilson again our own seven ninety NFL
Insider also too with kp R C too, a lot
of stuff to digest from him. And you know, a
couple of names he threw out there I thought were
pretty interesting. Anthony C. There will get you in the
