Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're fat for the Shawn Salisbury Show continued, It's time
to welcome in NFL Insider talking Texans and Chiefs. Aaron
Wilson my bathroom. Sorry, I was just reading one little
article there about what I needed to ask you. Sorry
about that. Aaron Wilson joins us on Twitter at Aaron
Wilson Always and you get it. A KPRC Channel two

(00:22):
does great work for them at sports seven ninety dot com.
Aaron's good to have you. Let's get to Charles a minute.
Who we were played some sound from him earlier, former Texan.
And I know you've had relationships with all these guys,
any yeah, any, I know you do. You talked about
him and what a good guy and good players, and
he was a little yeah exactly. So with that, it

(00:45):
feels like that he I don't know if bitter is
the right word. His experience here, how bad he wants
to win here? Was did he have a bad experience
with the front office or coaching staff?

Speaker 2 (00:55):
He did, Yes, he was unhappy with his playing time,
and he complained to me a lot about how he
felt like he wasn't being utilized, wasn't hitting his potential.
He also had the maturity to do it. He would
acknowledge that to me from that interviews. Many times he
just wasn't very happy with the scheme. They thought that

(01:17):
he was not handling it well as a young player,
not playing as much, not having the role that he
hoped for. He had a big chip on his shoulder.
He you know, the coaching stab at Texas wasn't very
supportive of him, Tom Berman. He wound up going in
the fifth round. Brian Gainet Bill O'Brien picked him, and
he was a player with a lot of potential seven
sacks first couple of seasons, and yeah, he feels some

(01:39):
kind of way toward the Texans. He's always felt this way.
This is just sort of getting a little more attention
because of the YouTube video. But yeah, this is not
news to me. I mean, this is how he spelt
the whole time. And he's grateful to the forty nine
Ers and the development he had there, which helped to
earn the big contract with the Chiefs. He's back from

(02:00):
an ACL injury at last year and he's just starting
to kund a round in the form. We had a
sack this or previous week, and I look at Charles
as a player with a great pass rusher. There's a
lot of respect for him inside the locker room. I
would disconnect how you might feel about Bubby Smith, and

(02:21):
he's still got friends there like Titus Howard, and it's
kind of I think it was on the field off
some fun, but yeah, Charles definitely had a little more
spice to I'm sure the Texans fans will feel some
kind of way. I already studied to see some of
their actions social but yeah, he just felt misused and
ultimately I feel like they did him a solid nicking

(02:42):
serio by trading him to a good organization. He played
for the best defensive line coach arguing in the NFL,
Chris because Eric and he grew as a player, and
he had some good moments like in the playoffs, you
know against Dak Prescott, the Dallas Cowboys helped them win
a game. I think, you know, for Charles, that's a
big thing for him, is that ship on his shoulder

(03:03):
being underappreciated. He's a kid from Raled, He's a Texas kid.
He's a good guy. I think for anybody that knows him,
a really good personality. But yeah, he kind of takes
these things personal. Builds these things up to motivate himself.
And you know he'll try to get after CJ. Stroud,
but him and CJ are friends. They have the same agent,

(03:24):
David will Getta. It's just something I think for people
to talk about. But yeah, it's sure, it's interesting, but
this is not news to anyone. Yeah, he didn't have
good relationship with Bobby King and deepensive mind coach. They
had nicknames for him permanent resting beat dash at dash
Space because he always looked unhappy. He had a scowl
on the space. He couldn't hide his emotions as a

(03:44):
young person or control them the way he probably can now.
And so yeah, it was constantly talks with him about
him being unhappy. The fresh start. It's paid dividends for him.
I think everybody's all the better for it.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Aaron Wilson joins us.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
You get him.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
Aaron Wilson on Twitter and KPRC Channel two and Sports
seven ninety dot com. Always great to have him in
talking Texans and the NFL. All right, speaking of that,
I think both defenses in this are the strength of
both teams this year and going into it, it's going
to be very, very difficult to deal with the interior
of the Kansas City Chiefs defense. How are they going
to offset that this week?

Speaker 2 (04:26):
You have to always account for number ninety five. That's
the biggest part of the blocking assignment. That's Chris Jones,
stone cold. You've got to get a hat on him,
more hats. And it only has five sacks this year,
but this is someone that has the talent where he's
had fifteen and a half sacks seasons. He's still especially
when you put him on the edge, made an impact.

(04:47):
He just hasn't been as disruptive inside because I think
everyone pays attention to him and there's so much you know,
double teams that he has to face and try to
fight through. But a really formidable player just is going
to stop in the run as he is at rushing
the passer. And he's assignment number one for Titus Howard,

(05:09):
Jared Patterson. He's got for the interior.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Well, Bobby Slow said this week that they need more explosives.
One fifteen yard play only one explosive apparently last week.
So we keep saying it, and we haven't seen the
great Texans offense sustained for a game or two in
a row yet this year. But they do have the potential.
So with that in mind, how do you dial up
more explosives against a defense it's pretty damn good and

(05:35):
what may be the best defensive coordinator in the league.
How are they going to do with Bobby Slow.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
As Spagnola outstanding and to do what Bobby wants Sean,
They're going to have to get these man demand situations
for Nico Collins and he's got to win those. He's
capable of that. We've seen that many times. He's an
opportunity for them. And then you look at Joe Mixon.
They've got to get him on track. He's going to

(06:01):
play in this game. He has a mild ankle injury,
but he's off the injury report. He had a pretty
good week of practice. It got better every day and
you probably saw the video I posted. He was moving
pretty well in practice yesterday. So they sustain that, they
get mixed on some edges. They try to get him
on track, go to Nico. Other guys though, have to

(06:22):
be involved, and that was one of the points. And
we did an interview with Bobby Slower bringing up Tank Dale.
Tank showed explosiveness on punt returns. We've seen him do
things in the open field before. They've got to get
him involved, more involved, I believe, to maximize the potential offense,
it can't just be Nico and Joe. Other players including

(06:43):
Daldon Saltz. They've got to make some plays and the
offense has to tilt some of the passes in their direction.
It can't just be a two man game with the
quarterback at the control. CJ. Strouds whoring primarily that those
guys are handing off. I think they've got it. Diversify
the offense a bit to hit their potential. Of course,

(07:04):
you gotta protect me our run block, and it all
starts the offensive line. And the last week against Miami,
you know, it was sort of mixed results with the
new configuration of Blake Fisher right tackle and Titus Power
left guard. Maybe it looks better this week as they
tried it again.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
Aaron, I'm curious about, you know, the Tank Dell situation.
I know he's not Deebo Samuel Bobby slogan from that
scene that Swiss army knife and he can't You're not
gonna run him in between. But in order to get
him the ball, what's the problem of getting him out
of the backfield and jet sweeping him and lining him
up and toss sweeping him in certain situations, and you know,
getting him screens on the quick edge. What you're gonna
have to do, You're gonna have to play outside that

(07:42):
interior this year, make him chase a little bit, or
this week and make them chase. So how do you
manufacture those plays to get the ball in his hand
quickly so he can put his foot in the ground
and do work in space.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
It just takes creativity and takes a intentionality to do that.
So you have to, you know, dial him up. They
did it with the one jet sweep. And this is
actually my question that I asked Bobby, and he was
happy with the production on that. Okay, then do it
some more, right, you know when they you know, the
forty nine ers where he comes from from that system.

(08:14):
I'm not saying he's Demos Samuel either, but wouldn't it
be capable of doing that three times a game?

Speaker 1 (08:20):
Agreed?

Speaker 2 (08:20):
Logic? Yes, yeah, so yeah, this is no point in
crisis the Bobby. I'm just being logical here that they
can increase their opportunities with more tank now and he's
one of the few really fast playmakers. You know, they
don't have the possession receiver now with Stefan Diggs, but

(08:41):
you can still move the chains with Tank and when
given the opportunity, can strike deep there with some times
where he was open and him CJ's timing was off.
A big byproduct of it all is the way they
change the offense and the shift they've had to make
without Stefan Diggs. Can't understand that enough how important it

(09:01):
is that they had spent the whole off season emphasizing gigs.
So now midstream you've got to pivot to what's available
and that's Tank out.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
Where does this stadium that they're going to play? It's
going to be cold and all that. As far as
home field advantages, tough place to go win even with
a not one hundred percent Patrick Mahomes. How do they
deal with this? Or is this just another game and
you go and it's twenty five degree weather and you
better just deal with it, or forty degree weather or
fifty degree I don't even know what the full temperature
is it in the fifties, whatever it's going to be,

(09:34):
but the intimidation part of it, I think forties, yeah, Okay,
in the forties, which is not bad. That's good football.
Weather does the just the because it's one of the
more difficult places in the league to play. How does
that play into this outdoors and all that when you're
trying to manufacture big plays.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
Right, you know, Den cam Ria has just tried, let's
make it bigger than it is. When you think about
the mystique, you know, you right, We've been Narrowhead. I've
covered a lot of games there. You know, you smell
a barbecue enticing, you hear the crowd. It's loud. They
win so often. Patrick Mahomes always makes the key plays
and you know they're playing for something. That's why he's playing.

(10:11):
They have a chance to get the top seed if
they win, and I believe in Buffalo loses, so what
they're you know, you're in an amped up atmosphere. Their
crowd is as loud as any place in the NFL.
It's like Pittsburgh, It's like a lot of these places
where they're very passionate. You can't play against the crowd,

(10:32):
you know, if you're a player, you have to focus
on your assignments and just play football. And that's a
sign of a maturing football team. You know they're a
two time division champion, they're an up and coming team.
We know that they've had some ups and downs this season,
but nonetheless it's still been a overall successful season. And
you know, Jamiko Ryans won two division titles and CJS,
driving him the only quarterback head coach combo to win

(10:56):
division titles in each of their first two seasons together.
I think, you know, for the Texans, it's going to
take a lot of resolve. And you know, like these
guys say they play that song, they're playing it after
the Jacksonville game, walk into your trap, take over your trap.
Those guys like playing at the college level too, at LSU.
They got to do that. They've got to feel like, hey,

(11:18):
we are underdogs, everybody's against us, and use them mentality,
try to propel themselves toward a victory. And the Texans
can still improve seeding. There's still something to play for,
and not to mention just trying to play some better
football when you get to the playoffs so that you
can make some noise in the playoffs. Because right now,
what are people saying, well, the Texans. The narrative is

(11:39):
very simple. People don't think the Texans are good enough
to really make a run. And I think that does
motivate these guys and does spur them towards something. But yeah,
when you get there, if you're not ready for it,
you'll be exposed and.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
It'll be overwhelming. And yet yet this is one of
those they got. They got a chance to go on
a three game run here or at least show not
only us but themselves that they belong, not only belong,
but that they can roll through January and make some
kind of impact. All right, what do you think about
this score? You picked it right last week. You said
they'd get Miami and they did. This one may be
a little tougher. Who do you like and what's the score?

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Yeah? I think Chiefs win in a close game. I
just I'm not going into the champs and Patrick Mahomes
at their place. I know the Texans, you know, played
some better football, but I'm still not quite sold that
they're going to knock off the Chiefs. Would have shocked
me if they were able to beat them. No, but
this is my pick, And have some you know, let's

(12:34):
say concrete resolve that they win a narrow game. Give
me the Chiefs twenty four to twenty one. They went
on a field goal.

Speaker 1 (12:43):
And I said earlier and its fine. I said, first
team to twenty four wins a game, and I'm with
you one hundred percent, and I've done. I like the
Chiefs in this one as well, and we'll talk about
that a little later on the show. Great stuff. And
with that, I think the Texans are going to have
to play their best offensive game of the year to
win this football game. Aaron, we'll talk to you next week.
Enjoy it, brother, and now we're at the greatest time

(13:03):
of football and I can't wait to see it. And
we'll talk to you next week. Merry Christmas, brother, you too.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
That's Aaron Wilson. Always great to have him. We'll come
back and discuss it a lot to a lot to
you know, soak in about what they're going to do.
But you have to be creative. It's a great point
by him. Sports Talk seven ninety
