As the weekend approaches and Sunday draws nearer, the Texans get ready to face Drake Maye in his rookie debut Sunday afternoon in Foxborough. Walking into Week 6 a bit light in the roster in relations to a few players listed on the IR, the Texans still look to be the better matchup rolling into gameday against the rookie. NFL Insider Aaron Wilson joins briefly and shares his thoughts on what must the Texans execute this Sunday  effectively to avoid an upset rolling into Sunday too comfortable being that they are facing a rookie and this being his NFL debut.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're about the Sewn Salisbury Show. Continued.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Welcome back to the Seawan Salisbury Show. You're on Sports
Talk seven einety. You can also listen to us on
a free iHeartRadio app. Shawn Salisbury, Brian Limamanuel Elmore. We're
now going to welcome in NFL Insider for kPr C
two Sports Aaron Wilson.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Yeah, we are, and we get him weekly at this time,
and we're also grateful for him covers the NFL so
well in the Texans to also get him at Aaron
Wilson on Twitter and right here at Sports seven ninety
dot com and on our show every Friday. We're grateful
to have him. Aaron, welcome him. I hate the phrase
trap game. You know, it drives me nuts, but I
know they somehow exist because it seems to happen every

(00:45):
year with different teams. But is this a trap game?

Speaker 4 (00:51):
I don't think so, Sean. You know, I don't think
the Texans have played a complete football game yet, so
you know, they really shouldn't think of an opponent in
in that way. And I don't get that sense being
around locker room all week that they look at the
Patriots like, oh, we'll do this to that. I mean,
sure they'll do some things. See Drake May's or rookie quarterback.

(01:11):
You see the pressure rate it's allowed by the Patriots,
and how good the text star rush in the past,
or that's obviously gonna be a big storyline in this
football game. But no, I haven't gotten that sense at all.
They You look at how they've played and it's a
strange form one, right, but winning's winning and you just

(01:34):
keep winning and keep rolling. You know they've have a
lot on their mind obviously. You know they're adapting to
life without Nico Collins starting this game. It's a big
game for Stefan Diggs and Tank Dell. The steps at
the forefront need a lot more from those guys. Dalton Sults.
Maybe you're gonna run the ball. Might be looking good

(01:54):
for Joe Mixon you practice again today, look pretty good
at practice yesterday. And I also, for some linesight, there's
a lot of optimism that he may play in this game.
So we'll see how that goes. But still determine that decision.
I don't know if they're going to say, well, you know,
we could beat them without Joe, you know, saving for

(02:14):
Green Bay, that kind of thing. I mean usually when
players are ready, they're ready and they play them out there.
So yeah, I don't know where that trap game stuff,
all right, I want to find out the focus.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Yeah, and if they were dominating team, I mean in
the NFL, it's you know, a couple of plays here
and there is the difference. And while they're four and one,
they still, as you said, have not played their best
game yet and hopefully it'll be this weekend. So with that, Aaron,
I look at the you know, their offensive line is
not very good. You're playing a rookie quarterback and I
don't think Demico is gonna let them take it for granted.
But what what are the concerns defensively about the New

(02:45):
England Patriots? And not real good upfront? So when you
go into a game like this, it's human nature. If
you and I are sitting watching tape like, damn, we
can dominate these guys. So what is what is the
strength of the Patriots offense and what scares the defense
if that even exists.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
Well, it's really not relevant because ramondra Stevenson will miss
this game with a hind cliss brain. He's a downhill
bruising punishing tackle of breaking got heavy hitting kind of runner,
big dude, and he's out of this game. So none
of these receivers or you know, they throw the football

(03:21):
a little bit to the tight ends. Well, but I mean,
you know, if you're really worried about Hunter Henry, I
guess I don't seen tight ends have very big games
against them. And as he's out shud here you saw
him almost call interceptions when they tried to go deep
to Dalton Kincaid last game. I just don't see it.

(03:41):
I mean, they have a left tackle, well, his numbers
are actually pretty good, but the rest of off the line,
they get lit up less. Drake May is like instant magic,
you know. I mean, I'm you know, they already had
an easy time against Caleb Williams. Puts in him constantly
and he's running for his life out there. I think

(04:02):
this offensive line is worse than the Bears. So I
don't know, I don't I don't see it. I mean,
you know, I look at their personnel closely, and you
know they have a smaller guy and Tomorrow Douglas that
is pretty good. After the catch, you have to account
for him. I mean, Tomorrow last year is going to
miss this game, so they'll be a little short handed

(04:22):
at corner, like combination of games Old Ross and Carl Holman.
So that's something to watch. That said, Megan, have any time,
I mean maybe it or be out there. I mean,
I don't think May can scramble at all, like he
scrambled a little bit, but I don't think he can
scramble like Caleb Walliams. I think it's more like a CJ.
Shroud level no scrambler, maybe not even that. It's I

(04:44):
just don't see it. How do they get points, which
you have to worry about their defense. They have Christian Zalez,
They've got He's a really gifted corner. They're doing a
pretty good job of holding points down. So you have
to be efficient and you might have to score some
field goals I think, and Zalas follows around the top receiver,

(05:05):
but offensive I mean, I don't know, you know, you
see their personal just like that.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
I mean, what do they got right? You're like, oh, man.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
I'm worried about this guy. I mean, when Stevenson's out there, yeah,
until it gives him the nice tall running back. He
actually trains here in Katie a lot of the year
in the offseason and he's hit the skills. He's a
nice player, but being worried about it, I don't know.
I mean I think that there they should be able

(05:32):
to handle this.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Yeah, And Aaron Wilson at Aaron Wilson on Twitter does
a great job covering the Texans in the NFL. You
get him a KPRC channel to sports and right here
at Sports Talk seven ninety at Sports seven ninety dot
com does an awesome job of covering the league in
these Texans all right, Yeah, it feels to me, Aaron,
you know, you and I are sitting breaking it down
if we're watching the game. It feels you need a
special team's big play. It feels like you need a

(05:53):
short field strip, sack fumble if you're the Patriots defense.
I don't see how they line up and go seventy
five yards five times in this game. I think they're
averaging twelve and a half points a game. This feels
like that something special would have to happen for them
to win.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
Yeah, I mean you'd have to have like calamity, more
another muff punt or more injuries. I mean, you know,
just things that you can't predict. Will happened, and I
just don't see it. I think they take care of business.
I could see this being a lopsided len We'll see
if I'm wrong with you know you, Normally the Patriots

(06:30):
kind of hang around, they stay close because of that defense.
They got some pretty good defensive personnel. But that's really
all they have right there's nothing to be excited about it.
If you're New England one of my friends that's kind
of connected up there, it's a mess up there right now.
It's not good and they're one and four. They'll still
show up their fans, so that's what they do, but

(06:53):
there's not a lot of hope right now in Boston.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
Yeah, if I'm playing Drake Maine, I'm the defense and
you know haven't been in that position getting your first start,
that I contend that you'd be multiple defensively that young
quarterbacks have trouble getting through their reads in his zone
where you don't just want to show them blitz man
because then it becomes a one man read and they
can they can hit that you want to.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
You want to make them think.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
So I would imagine that they're not going to line
up and just show Drake May I mean man coverage
so he can take a one man read and go.
I would imagine they're going to make him act like
a veteran and have to get through his decisions, multiple
defense and a lot of different looks for him to confusion.
I would imagine mental pre snap confusion is going to
be a problem, right, and.

Speaker 4 (07:34):
They're gonna throw a lot at him. It's Nika Ryan's
mapper collaborating on the deep the campaign, and what they'll
attempt to do is mix up coverage is I think
they will show, you know, some blitz looks, but you
can get pressure without having to necessarily blitz. Bengo Jalen
people to bring the linebackers. You can go with just

(07:56):
your front and I think they can beat these guys.
Will Anderson's the hunter, Mario Edwards Junior him Settle and
fully thought the Cossi. But he's beat him with your
defensive line and occasionally maybe you're bringing us. He's all
shire you're thinking about trying to you know, took some
things in there, but you know, I mean, why would
you just really be too concerned? I mean, I just

(08:20):
don't see. I don't think Drake may and he took
him a while even Jacoby Rissett was awful for them
to put him on the field and feel comfortable. Look
at all fast the other guy's all played, Caleb Williams,
Jade and Daniels and he's not out there, and what
does it say? And then some people said he was
the most ready the quarterbacks. But obviously, you know that's

(08:43):
not the decision the Patriots made. So he's missed all
these games. He played a little bit. He you know,
didn't embarrass himself, but he didn't exactly show a lot.
He completed fifty percent of his throws. He can move
a little bit. I mean he's a nice athlete, yep.
But I won't thin there's any thing that nifty about him.
I mean, think about how fast Caleb Williams is and

(09:03):
he's running for his life. I mean it's kind of
near that he had receivers. I mean he is you
know DJ Moore because like that to throw to ye.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
Man, yeah, four man rush can create pressure with this
offensive line. So let let me ask you on the
offensive side of the ball. Obviously, Nico, when people say,
well you can overcome, I mean you can. You know,
you don't lose anything when you lose a receiver. Well,
of course you do. When you lose your best receiver,
the next guys have to elevate and do their thing.
But they do have enough weapons on that roster Detexans
to make a bunch of plays. So with that, what's

(09:35):
the next level? When do we get Tank Dell with
that eruption game. How we're getting him more involved this week?

Speaker 4 (09:43):
Right? I mean you can. They haven't really had him
run that many deep prouts. You look at his you know,
frequency of where is he on the football field. It's
been a lot of short intermediate things. It's been some
ender rounds. So they haven't utilized him the same as
last season. His usage changed and his numbers changed and
they went down and he's the third receiver, not the

(10:04):
second receiver. So as their talent increased, tanks world decrease.
Tank also had, you know, many things he overcame in
the offseason, minutes, stipords not But I look at and
I think, yeah, you can change it right away. Just
with the route diversity to chev He's not gonna be
facing the same caliber corner as Stefan Diggs. Diggs is

(10:25):
going to be shadowed. That's what they do with Christian Gonzalez.
He always goes with the number one, and he's been effective.
You know, he's one of the better young corners in
the NFL already, and Dare Stingley Junior though him, were
in that same category of no talents of young corners.
They're gonna make a ton of money and play a
long time. That's great. They hit that on that pick

(10:45):
that said tank he should have some opportunities and they
got to make the most of them. He's going to
catch the ball. You know, he hasn't had a great
start of the season, and talking with him this week,
I feel like he's ready, he's focused, and you know,
should be able to do something. He also had that
injury with real painful bruise ribs he suffered against the Vikings.

(11:07):
He started to do a few things. He had five
catches for sixty two yards in that game, and you
know he's gonna get on the averages to be higher.
But you know, it just depends on what routes they're
asking you to run. And I guess you know, with
him being the two role, there will be some opportunities
that don't necessarily forecast, like, okay, well that means gonna
catch three long touchdowns. Maybe there's gonna be one. Maybe

(11:30):
it's gonna be some chunk plays. And he's capable of
that explosiveness he did last year, should be able to
do it again. And I think the last time we
saw him in the end zone was the preseason game
against the Steelers and got deep. So yeah, they injury capture.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
Some of that, no doubt about it.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
And if Mixon does play, it'd be nice to add
a little bit of bandwidth to that because he is
a beast and nice to see him out there healthy,
whether he gets a full load or not, would be nice.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
All right.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
I get the hunch that you think that this is
a pretty much a no brainer. You got to score
for me.

Speaker 4 (12:00):
Yeah, let's go Texans twenty seven Patriots ten.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
Sounds good to me. I'll take that now that I'm
gonna go. Now, I'll go place my bet and I'll
blame it on you, but no, and then then I'll
share it with you.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
There you go, brother. I appreciate you, my man. Always good.
Are you going right? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (12:18):
I flyed Tomora ially with me or she's ever been
a boss or excited to.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
Oh good, great down. One of the best sounds on
the planet. I love it.

Speaker 4 (12:27):
Night's the Italian Reservation on the North End on Saturday night,
so yeah, it should be fun to soak it up.
That's a good area to go and then just to
kind of very historical walk around during the day and
hopefully it's a nice routine day with transactions and stuff
like that.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
There you go, right, so you can enjoy it.

Speaker 4 (12:47):
I'm like tweeting and walking around.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
There you go. We'll have a blast.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
You deserve a brother, and we'll talk to you next
Friday and go textans thanks Ma man appreciate it. That's great.
Aaron Wilson. You have to catch him again at Aaron
Wilson on Twitter. Sports Talk seven Niny rolls on discuss
that and they have not played a complete game. But
doesn't think, Aaron that this is a trap game because
this team understands they haven't played a complete game yet.
